Nice Accessible Museum

By DOCBABE_SCOUT |

We are traveling and do enjoy art. This museum has a very nice and broad European collection of minor works by major artists..Courbet, Cezanne, JMW Turner, Monet, Manet, Reubens...

A Nice "Highlights" Museum

By abroadwithashley |

This is still one of the best museums in Texas. We like to think of this museum as “the highlights.” They have a piece (or two) from nearly every period of art - starting with 4,500 year old statues and moving forward from there. All of this is packed into a museum you can easily enjoy in 90 minutes. It’s also free. Why wouldn’t you go?

Excellent exhibit!

By Kelsey C |

It was very clean, well kept, family friendly, and offered quite a variety of works for the size of it. I’m an artist and am very familiar with art history, so our trip was about an hour and fifteen minutes with me stopping and talking about certain pieces to my family.

Great Museum

By Ordabek D |

Very good and museum has a bunch of exhibitions going on along with different concerts and performances, I played there few times.

Art in Ft Worth

By Celtic3401 |

Free museum, except of special temporary exhibits. From out of town and so pleasantly surprised at how good the paintings were by some well known artists in a free museum. Can be done in only a couple of hours so you can squeeze it in even on a busy trip

Love the Kimbell

By shelligirl7087 |

Great museum. The Monet exhibit was so beautiful. Always enjoy the traveling galleries. This was the first time I'd been back since they added the new wing. It was great.

Great place to soak up culture

By MWKing13 |

This museum is constantly offering a wide array of exhibits. Varying from samurai armor to Renoir, if you are looking for a more cultured entertainment. Look no further.

Adore this place

By CohenD1234 |

This is my second visit to the Kimbell in three months and I live in Houston. The Renoir exhibit, which ends at the end of January 2020, was beyond phenomenal. However, the permanent collection at the Kimbell is outstanding and it’s worth a trip in and of itself. Each genre represented in the collection is a masterpiece, the highest level of example of its class. The lunch buffet at the Kimbell is incredibly tasty and is a super value. The grounds are beautiful and the architecture, particularly the Renzo Piano building, are so wonderful. Great sculptures out in the garden. All in all a fabulous experience

Great Exposition of Artistic Expression

By docrob01 |

My daughter and I have been here many times, mostly for traveling collections, but we have seen quite a bit of the permanent collection. Really a great facility. A building is a building, but they seem to have great skill in choosing good representation of various artists, regions, and styles so that you can get a good grasp of the work of a culture or artist. Traveling collections tend to be the most interesting, but they cost (at present) about $22 a person. Permanent collection is also quite compelling and completely free. If you are in the area and have an interest in art, it is worth seeing.

Beautiful Museum!!

By Kim J |

Our family was visiting from out of town and we took them to all of the museums in the cultural district of Fort Worth. It is a great way to spend the day with your family. We walked and talked and just hung out together. Highly recommend

Must See

By Jaggger1 |

I have lived in the Dallas area for 35 years and this was my first time to the Kimball. Wonderful Balenciaga exhibition and their staple collection is impressive- Monet, Manet, Picasso.

A fine place to be on a bad weather day!

By jctexas1 |

The Kimbell is on of the Finest Art Museums you will find. It's great on a bad weather day if you need to get out and the permanent collect is free to the public!

Monet exhibit

By Stacey L |

Monet exhibit was breath taking. The audio tour was informative and helped you view the paintings from the artist’s perspective.

always great. took family that was visiting from out of town to see the Michelangelo

By JustJon123 |

there is much more here than you expect to see ! this time there was a Monet traveling exhibit. awesome as always. love the Kimbell!

Best Art Museum in the State

By Keith D |

Came here for the Renoir exhibit after seeing both of the Monet exhibits in the past couple of years. Time and time again, the staff has curated amazing exhibitions of the quality that you would expect to have to to to New York or Los Angeles to see. The museum itself has a great collection, and their traveling exhibits are must sees and worth the drive from wherever you are coming from.

Amazing architecture.

By Nada H |

This museum isl a gem in the cith of Fort Worth. Wonderful art works in a beautiful setting. The gift shop is great also.

Must see in Fort Worth

By Irina p |

While Kimbell is relatively small, a visit requires a bit of preparation since many exhibits are now held at the Pavillion and you have two excellent exhibit areas to consider and allocate time for. Be sure to review Kimbell's website before going as current exhibits change frequently. Balenciaga in Black and Goya in Black and White are well worth an extended visit.

Awesome collection of art work.

By rjfaille |

The old masters were just a pleasure to see. Many good explanations of the artist's intent. I also liked the Asian exhibit.
Visit recommended!

Great art

By tlt1212 |

This was a great place with art and art history and a wide variety of artists and art appreciated history.

Special exhibit

By Max B |

One of the finest small museums in the country--always a treat especially when the museum has a special exhibit (Caravaggio).

The Monet exhibit was amazing.

By Teri H |

My best friend took me to the Monet exhibit for my birthday. It was amazing. I learned so much. The audio tour was exceptional, and the staff was very informative.

Lovely Venue for Art

By J G |

Thank you for bringing to Fort Worth such wonderful art and feasts for the eyes. I so enjoyed the Monet exhibit, that rivaled the Louvre in Paris. It was a special treat to be permitted to take photos.

Moms' Trip

By Traci Overbey |

Great, mostly free museum. There are two buildings with varieties of sculptures and paintings. All was free, except the rotating exhibit. The only thing I didn't like here, was security felt a little overwhelming. If you stepped closer to anything to get a better look, they were there to scold. Other than that, a great free activity!

Lovely spacious gallery with some outstanding works of art.

By Owdman |

We visited the Kimbell Gallery on our recent visit to Fort Worth and though not in the same league as the major art galleries it nevertheless contains some fine pieces of art. In particular I loved the two paintings of the gamblers positioned next to each other, one by Caravaggio (The Cardsharps) and the other by Georges de La Tour (The Cheat with the Ace of Clubs). There are a number of other good works by famous artists including Michelangelo's first painting.
The gallery itself is attractive with high ceilinged galleries, which allows the exhibits to be displayed in light airy spaces. The gallery does have the feel of an exclusive private gallery and certainly was a marked contrast to the last gallery I visited in England, which was the Walker in Liverpool. The Kimbell is certainly worth a visit and I look forward to calling in again in the future.

Not to be missed

By Marilyn R |

World-class museum. Easy parking. Culture awaits. If you’re within an hour’s drive, don’t miss the Kimble. Whatever special exhibit is there will only enhance your visit to the permanent collection. Just go; you’ll be a better human.

Excellent Art and structure.

By PineTerraceTraveler |

Building and surrounding lawn are beautiful Stroll the aisles and enjoy wonderful art works. Go back often.

Monet at the Kimbell

By Cecelia S |

The Kimbell is an excellent, well designed museum. The Piano Plaza (where the Monet Exhibit was held) is elegant and spacious.

The exhibit was laid out in a very comfortable, well curated floor plan, with a well written program to describe the events of Monet's life. This was also available on a very inexpensive audio.

The exhibit itself was overwhelmingly beautiful and inspiring. So many of the pieces seemed like they could be magical portals into the garden. It was amazing.

The lower rating is because in spite of all the beautiful space and such clean and open design of the facility, the concept of 'accessibility' was not really embraced. The restrooms were in small, cramped rooms - almost like an afterthought. There was barely enough room for me (in a wheelchair) to actually enter the room, and the stall was only barely large enough for me to enter - only to discover that I could not use the facility anyway because some idiot chose to install the 'short commode' that has become popular. It was about 6 inches too low for a wheelchair user. Those really small and low commodes may be cheaper and use less water, but are completely useless for wheelchair users and also problematic for many elderly and other disabled people. There is really, in my mind, no excuse for such an oversight. It is very disrespectful of many of the museums patrons.

Consistent quality

By lm10737 |

We have been members of the Kimbell for many years and have enjoyed many exhibitions and lectures. The museum consistently meets our high stands for excellence. I highly recommend!

Great Museum, Incredibly Inconsiderate of their Customers Time

By petto1947 |

I went to FT Worth from Dallas to see the Egyptian exhibit. I have been to Kimbell years ago and had good memories of their exhibit. When I got there, I was informed there was a 1 1/2 hr wait in line to get in. They did not even have a sign up sheet for my place in line so I could go look at the other exhibits until I could go in to the Egyptian exhibit.

It is incredible to me that they do not have a system for reducing the wait, which would be very easy if anyone thought that wasting peoples time was a concern of theirs. There must have been a thousand or more people going thru that day and they wasted 1 1/2 hours of every one of them. That is 62 full 8 hour days wasted for only ONE calendar. That is so discourteous it boggles the mind!!!

All that needs to be done (which other more courteous venues have done) is to have an online sign up reservation sheet with 15 minute increments so that people could show up about the time they could go in. It is not rocket science.

I would encourage everyone to write a review. It is really a shame that a museum with such a good product would treat its customers so poorly.

Must see

By Mark M |

Magnificent permanent collection. Terrific temporary exhibits. One of the great art museums of the world.

It's FREE!

By Milissa R |

Even if the Kimbell were not free it would be worth your time to visit. The collection is diverse and well curated. If there is a special exhibit, you should expect to ante up about $16. The exhibitions are usually in the Renzo Piano Pavillion which provides more than sufficient room for even the most popular of exhibitions so you won't be tripping over other guests. In addition to the fine art, the architecture of the original Kimbell and the Piano Pavilion are worth seeing itself.

Renoir Exhibit and more

By midwstgirl |

This is a terrific modern museum—the building. I think the underground parking lot is the cleanest I’ve ever seen. Beautifully laid out, and nice green spaces between this and the Modern Art Museum across the street. Don’t miss the water wall. The Renoir exhibit was fantastic, also got to see some other Impressionist’s art, and Picasso! What a treat. If I lived over here I’d be a member.

Big City Museum

By Thomas V |

This big city museum has lots of treasures, a sign that local benefactors have made sure that this community has a great art institution. It is a little bit of this and a little bit of that, typical of a big city museum. The display space is lovely and impressive. Great place to spend a couple of hours.

Not impressed

By Yang Z |

Hard to navigate and no signs to direct where to see the next portion of art display. Very unfriendly vibe inside the museum. They are very proud of the building and national light but there are parts so dim you cant see the art until you get close but then thats when the workers talk to you about not get close. There are workers standing in every corner staring at you like you are there to spit on their art or something. We travel and see art museums in every state we visit and honestly this is one of the least favorite ones, small and not friendly.

Quality Free Experience

By Rldoubleu |

You can purchase tickets for special exhibitions but the quality and amount of artist visible throughout the free experience is fantastic. It is a great escape from a busy week and a good destination to take visitors for a free excursion.

Superb building, excellent collection

By Jurgen B |

The building is as good as the collection, but the collection was smaller than I thought so we were done in an hour or two

A bit of Culture

By M P |

The Kimble art museum is a great cultural experience. It has beautiful buildings and grounds and a very nice collection of art for such a small city. Well done Fort Worth!

Elegant Gem in Museum Districf

By Debra A |

This art museum showcases world-class traveling exhibits as well as its own collections. The cafe offers an excellent buffet of sandwiches, salads, and soups. The gift shop showcases a number of books, jewelry, and other unique gift items. Be sure to take time to visit this museum when in Fort Worth.

Wonderful Art Collection

By Susan S |

Went to see the Monet Later years Exhibit. Fantastic. Also visited the main building of the art museum. They have a wonderful collection of art. We loved it. Of interest to me, El Greco, Miro, Michalangelo, Seurat, Pissaro, Monet.. The muesum itself also beauiful.

Monet

By TLW-GP |

I always love the Kimbell Art Museum! The Monet exhibition is wonderful! You should go while it’s still in town!

Easy To Navigate

By InTheMomentManhattan |

The Kimbell has a very strong collection of art works and it is very easy to navigate. The sculpture collection is quite strong. Also, I learned about artworks which were new to me such as the very early painting by Michelangelo.
The gardens are great on a nice day
Parking is readily available and conveneint.

Amazing Exhibits

By Maureen R |

Great exhibits that come through this museum. Enjoy with family or on your own. Enjoy a good book at the cafe.

Money exhibit was great

By Craig C |

61 Monet paintings from his later years (he lived into his 80’s and painted right up to the end).
Great exhibit gathered from points all around the world.... including several from private collections. Moderate prices and a well run exhibit- the Kimbell knows how to do it right.

Fine architecture houses diverse fine art

By Kathleen S |

The Kimball holds fine art from before Christ to modern times. Beautiful setting, diverse art. And no charge, except for special exhibitions.

The Monet exhibit was fabulous!

By DalTexTraveler |

I rarely drive to Ft. Worth but am a big Monet fan. The exhibit was wonderfully done and the Kimball is just a great place to view art.

Great place.

By ST_Carpin_Diems |

Great place to visit. Their permanent exhibit is free and very interesting. The architecture and landscaping is beautiful.

Beautifully curated Renoir exhibit with companion pieces by Degas and Cezanne

By Judy5816 |

I was entranced by this exhibit. The explanations were clear and informative. Here and there were pieces by Degas and Cezanne on similar themes. There was even an early Picasso. The number of Renoir pieces was awesome!

Beautiful facility filled with treasures

By landlt1 |

The Kimble is remarkably different from most art museums in that the vast majority of their exhibits are owned by the Museum having been collected by gifted staff and leaders. While it has received traveling exhibits, some unique in the U.S., most come to view its permanent collection. The building itself is a work of art.

Well worth the time to take a look-see!

By 188roger |

Our couples visit took-in the museum's free exhibits. We were limited on time and got to see history, art and some exhibits too! Enjoyable at any time of the year!!!

Fine Arts with a side of Finest Architecture

By greekrabbit |

I’m a museum maven and was expecting a good one. But the delight was in the details. For starters the Renoir exhibition has some old favorites last seen elsewhere. It was the ambiance of warm proximity to the master that was different. And better. Visiting old favorites in a laid back space gave them a fresh look. As for the facility: Our backstage look at the careful planning and meticulously maintained structures where a sparkling new Renzo Piano pavilion suppléments the grandiose Louis Kahn galleries was accompanied by a wealth of happily shared expertise from the brilliant Senior Deputy Director. It will be interesting indeed to revisit the Reniors back at their more formal Clark home. As got the Kimbell-Go for the architecture. Stay for the attitude. How to feel at home, even cozy, in the presence of genius.

One of the finest Museums in the world!

By Larry Deutsch |

I have visited all of the following museums multiple times: The Louvre, The Met, The Art Institute of Chicago, The National Gallery in Washigton, DC, and many others. I found the Kimbell to be one of the most beautiful Museums in its superb architecture, fantastic Masterpiece collection, special show (Monet's Late Years), Restaurant, grounds, etc.

Big enough to contain world class art; small enough not to exhaust you

By JohnRegoPark |

This is an extremely fine museum containing world class art in a landmark building. You will see paintings by Caravaggio and Monet, the only painting by Michelangelo in America, and masterpieces by everyone from Duccio to Braque. This is really a very fine museum of Old Masters, but don't overlook the Asian section. For free, this is a real bargain! Parking is free across the street and very convenient. This is the best art museum in the DFW area.

Great museum

By chateau57 |

Very interesting museum with a collection of european, middle east pieces. Interesting modern architecture setting. On the same campus as the Modern Art Museum so easy to get both in on the same day.

Last minute visit

By LexnTex |

Note to everyone wanting to pop in for a quick visit...it doesn’t matter if you buy tickets ahead of time online, you will be stuck waiting for quite awhile with people who did not buy tickets. Obviously, this is due to Covid restrictions but waiting in line to get tickets you already have in order to get into the line to see the exhibit was ridiculous! We stood for close to 45 minutes before making it in the exhibit. I wish the Kimbell had detailed this on their website as we would have not purchased tickets online and just passed entirely on our visit.

Wow!

By Kendot52 |

This is one of those wonderful museums you could spend a hour or several hours in. The different galleries are well defined and allow you to see art and sculptures from a specific area of interest. There are even two nice restaurants. The main museum is free, but temporary exhibits have a small entry fee.

A Fort Worth Treasure!!

By chpeterson2003 |

The Kimbell is a really fine museum. The buildings are architectural masterpieces, the permanent collection is very good, and they bring in several superior traveling shows per year.

This is a Fort Worth treasue!!

Visiting permanent collection

By Nancy B |

We always enjoy our visits to the Kimbell Art Museum. Wonderful permanent collection and looking forward to upcoming Monet exhibit.

Go see Caravaggio

By Arthur |

Go see Caravaggio!!!!!
We just went to explore the area and I wandered in to see what eras were present. Lord, after having heard about it/seen it in pictures that much seeing it in person was something else. And the gift shop was nice as well.

Fantastic Museum!

By Kathleen R |

This is a must see for anyone who loves art. So many wonderful pieces in the museum with an exceptional gift shop.

Awesome Museum, good education for children. 👌

By Masher |

We took our Grand kids several times, they truly enjoyed. There are so many things for children of all ages, our Grand kids didn't want to leave the place.

Free and Wow

By Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed |

It is located in a very huge area and tooo far from the botanic gardens.Entry is free; they have some rare collections: Picasso Van Gogh and many more. Collections form Asia, Africa, Europe. For some artworks (a very few though) photography is prohibited. A restaurant and relaxing areas are there. Souvenir shop, library and educational center are also there.

You Can’t Go Wrong With Free!

By AlabamaAngel |

My husband, 11 year old son, and I visited the Kimbell Art Museum on our recent trip to Fort Worth. This is a world class art museum and it offers FREE admission (except for select exhibits). We spent about 45 minutes wondering around looking at the beautiful paintings and statues. However, we only looked around the first floor. By the way, Kimbell showcases the only Michelangelo painting in America! One of the older female docents was a little stuffy but everyone else was friendly and helpful. This is a really upscale and unique museum just a few miles from downtown Fort Worth. It’s definitely worth visiting if you are in the Fort Worth area.

Well worth the trip

By SibylleR2010 |

We became members last year when Monet exhibits were hosted there and as we are from ATX we are now making the trip each time a new special one is in town and we combine it with other sights. Always such a delight and well curated and arranged. The audio tour a plus to get a deeper insight and the greeters are phenomenal. We feel like family and wish to be closer to Fort Worth as we would take advantage of all the member only events. Such a steal! thanks and keep up the good work. We will keep coming up.

Large, beautiful center for art.

By CraftTheTravel |

Be sure to ask for a free self-guided tour wand. It makes learning about the art much more fun and interactive. Wear comfy shoes, don't be in a rush as you can easily spend hours here learning about so many magnificent pieces.

Wonderful Museum

By Evi B |

Visiting the Kimbell was an extraordinary experience. Such a beautifully designed museum ( by the great architect Louis Kahn) and a superb collection!

Fabulous

By Karen D |

Wow, loved the Kimbell!! For sure put it on your list and go! Beautiful art work, wonderful gift shops, delicious restaurant. I hope to return!

MONET - THE LATER YEARS

By Greg S |

This exhibit at the Kimbell Museum in Ft. Worth is the second and final retrospective of Monet's achievement. Because the influence of 'the later Monet' has been so much more profound than his earlier works, this exhibit MUST be seen, if you are in Texas. The curatorial staff have brought together a HUGE number of water lilies paintings along with other late works and placed them into a dynamic continuum which shows Monet painting and creating right up until his death in 1926. Before or after, enjoy a coffee or cool drink in either of the two main buildings. Parking is ample. Ends September 15, 2019.

Some nice pieces, but small

By Lori B |

This was secondary to our stop at the modern art museum, but still worth the visit. Admission was free (except for temporary exhibit) and while this is a small museum, overall, there are some very lovely pieces and a nice mix of sculpture, paintings, and artifacts.

Nice artworks

By EasyE808 |

Good place to enjoy beautiful artwork. A variety of art from different parts of the globe. We allocated 1-2 hours to see all the exhibits.

First class collection

By Robert F |

The Kimbell's permanent exhibit and its traveling exhibits are outstanding in the variety and quality of art. Housed in the architecturally impressive buildings, the art is stunning.

Show me the Monet....

By Divinit |

Always wonderful exhibits of world-class art....you should go! The audio tours are included with most packages and are worth anything they charge...

World Class Musuem in Fort Worth

By SPG_will_miss_you |

If you are within a 20 minute radius of the Kimbell (living or working) then you owe it to yourself to drop by. Free to enter the main halls, only the special exhibits require a small fee.

The lunch buffet in the cafe is not a bad value and breaks up your tour of the building.

Very nice

By denise j |

Beautiful building and art collection. Very nice art pieces. Great atmosphere. Enjoyed my visit there.

Impressive

By saraheT922KB |

Interesting architecture and history of this unique building made the visit! A "must do" while in the DFW area.

World-class building and collection

By jdavis5775 |

Perhaps the world’s best small museum building, houses a fitting collection.
Don’t overlook the inexpensive lunches.

👍 Outstanding Museum Of Art

By CDM49 |

Monet the later years is a beautiful exhibit of 52 paintings of his home, garden and Lilly pond. His home in Giverny France 🇫🇷 is where these were painted. We have visited Monet’s home several times during different times of the year just to walk around the ponds with the variety of beautiful gardens. This wonderful exhibit brought back many memories. And reflects the beautiful area. As it looks even today. The Museum itself is worth the time to visit with several world renown international exhibits during the year. We will return later in the year for the Renoir exhibit. The Kimbell Museum Of Art is definitely a 5⭐️ in our opinion.

Great art in a serene setting

By Cathy2010056 |

The Kimball's always a great place to spend an afternoon perusing fine art, especially when new travelling exhibits are in town.

Nice collection, beautiful Gardens!

By Sergio O |

One of the things I love from Fort Worth is that most of the attractions are free. This is without exception one if the nicest free attractions.
The paintings of the realism era are gorgeous! Feels like if they were pictures of how good they are painted!!! The prehispánic collection and Asian collection are worth seeing.
Take some beautiful pictures in their gardens and fountain outside the museum.

Art in a Madhouse

By Jewel S |

Visited long ago, but couldn't select year.
Took teen kids to see the Monet collection. Our Chicago roots were pulling us in since we grew up looking at this fabulous collection that was on loan from the Art Institute of Chicago. They should never have let it leave that great city.
The exhibit was horribly crowded and that was after being made to stand in line outside in a gravel and mud courtyard to be allowed in to the actual exhibit.
Seriously disappointed in the lack of security around the paintings. Roped off at shin level. We saw parents allowing their children to reach around the side and touch. We alerted the docents. There was no reaction. It was so crowded, there was no way to appreciate or stand back to admire. Small children were everywhere and adults were not using this as an event to appreciate art or to learn manners. It was so loud that it made it almost impossible to hear the auto tour devices. It didn't take long for us to know that we would never again visit a prized collection at this location. We witnessed a baby spit over its mother's shoulder so forcefully that the floor and wall she was standing near had been soiled. The mother was standing up against the wall so close to The Waterlily that we all cringed and thought of how close of a call that was. No one was stopping the disrespectful young people who were pushing and being so loud.
The actual area of display was cold, stark concrete and exposed architectural cables. It was not an environment fit for the grandeur of that collection.
All we kept thinking and hoping was that they would return those priceless works to Chicago unharmed where they are treated with the respect they deserve. We wondered if any curators from Chicago even knew how close people were allowed to get to the paintings or how they were being displayed. Simply raising the ropes would have helped tremendously. There is nothing anyone can do about the drab gray concrete. Visit the Art Institute in Chicago. The building, itself, is a beautiful work of art.
We hope that learning took place on the part of The Kimble after that. As a family of four, we will spend our money elsewhere for artistic culture.

Great museum!

By MDOGP |

I have been in this museum three times. They have wonderful paintings by remarkable artists such as Joan Miró, Matisse, Monet, Modrian.
The museum is for free. They have special exhibitions that normally cost $15-$18.
It is a great place to visit if you are in Fort Worth and in the Cultural District.

Culture at the Kimball

By SciGalJN |

It is absolutely amazing to visit the Kinball Museums and walk the grounds, which are extensive and beautiful. There is an incredible variety of treasures from so many areas. This gives one a chance to sample several interesting cultures in one visit, or immerse oneself in a particle place or time, then come back for more later. Highly recommended for singles, friends, and families, but best if you can spend a few hours.

Prepare to be amazed

By Vanessa P |

Great place to see incredible art. The staff is extremely helpful in answering questions, too. The cafe is lovely.

I love the Kimbell

By Jilldavis1 |

I bought a membership because I love the exhibits and atmosphere. The Monet exhibit is coming end of June. I look forward to it.

Beautiful collection and buildings

By VAcatfan |

What a gem! This free museum is a beautiful collection of buildings which houses a terrific collection of diverse artists. Special exhibit on Goya is amazing. A definite stop in Fort Worth.

Small, but wonderful

By Timothy C |

Although the Kimball has recently doubled in size it is still a small museum. There is little (maybe no) American art: for that you need to visit the Amon Carter in another part of town. When I visited there was quite a large special exhibit of Monet's later paintings, especially his waterlilies, wisteria and the famous Japanese bridge. It's a fabulous exhibit, well laid out with the option of personal audio guides. The entry fee is modest and the entire museum can be toured without getting overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of riches.

A museum of such high quality….

By Mike H |

…in both architecture and contents deserves to be judged by the very highest of standards. Despite being small, it is perfectly formed. Though the Renzo Piano building is dull and undistinguished like most Piano museum buildings it doesn’t clash with the Louis Kahn building, though the two don’t exactly meet and respond to each other. The pathway from the one to the other is very unclear so if you go to the one expecting the other or vice versa, you might have difficulty getting to the one you wanted.

The Louis Kahn building has the Western art. The Western art is very good and tries to be both selective and representative. Selective in that each artist represented is probably as good if not the best example of an oeuvre, though not all the branches or twigs of art history are represented, a good arboreal show is created.

However, there are gaps and weaknesses – though it is unfair to comment on gaps as we cannot know how or why the gaps occur, the weaknesses are easier to respond to. One in particular is very evident. The Rembrandt ‘Head of a Young Jew’ might have been a good example once upon a time, but it has been flattened and looks terrible. Considering the number of better – in terms of both quality and condition – Rembrandts that have been available in recent years this is not a good one, and the Getty’s recent acquisition springs to mind.

The Kimbell has the feeling of a job half done – and can do better, though there are stunners as well – the full-length Velasquez portrait is one for starters, worth a detour.

The Piano Pavillion, though dull in both contents and design, has a brilliant car park.

Incredible

By caboose |

These folks have done EVERYTHING magnificiently and majestically. For decades I have visited and it always offers something new which makes my mind "sit down" and marvel.

A Mecca For Art Lovers

By Michaela H |

First of all, the architecture and grounds...amazing. The contemporary style of the museum complex is fabulous art from the ground up. Huge expanses of glass bring light throughout the large reception spaces, while soaring vaulted ceilings make even the most intimate exhibition spaces airy.

Kimbell’s permanent collection is world renowned, while the traveling exhibits are sometimes breathtaking, always educational and well displayed. The current Renoir show includes works by not only Renoir, but Matisse, Bonnard, Corot, a large, impressive Picasso and several other masters.

There is free parking on the grounds as well as along adjacent streets. The restaurant is quite good and the gift shops outstanding.

Make Kimbell a part of your itinerary every time you are in Fort Worth.

Experience Monet The Later Years

By Dottie P |

I know so little about art but have always loved Monet. This is a fabulous exhibition. The audio tour gave so much background that you left knowing more about the artist, the history of the time, the art and his garden. The Kimbell has done an excellent job. I highly recommend this experience.

Excelent!!!

By josecarlosdelimajr |

Excelent museum! Worth it! A lot of incredible paints!! Beautiful architeture! I recommend it for everyone!

What a treasure

By Bard T |

My wife and I enjoyed the exhibits as well as the design and layout. It is a true must see for any visitor to Fort Worth!!!

Award winning exhibits!

By Beverly T |

There is always something going on at the Kimbell. Fort Worth is blessed to have this museum with its many attractions.

Left somewhat disappointed by the collection.

By Margaret O |

Not quite top notch. Architecture is sort of harsh and flat. Collection of some big name artists, but secondary works. Docents not engaged, but at least wore masks.

Everything about the Kimbell is perfection

By FourDogMommy |

Their permanent collection is amazing. The traveling collections are always inspiring. The building itself is beautiful, and the gift shop is extensive and not filled with cheap junk. On our last visit the employees were wonderful to us; they saw two of us had drawing pads and asked if anyone wanted a stool? There is even plentiful, convenient parking and yet it's within walking distance of numerous fine restaurants and hotels. All this... and admission to the museum (except the traveling exhibits) is FREE.

Lovely venue

Have been here many, many times over the years and it never disappoints me. They frequently have new exhibits but also have their own art which I enjoy visiting over and over.

Kimbell Art Museum - Dresden Art

By Thomas D |

Oil pictures like photos of the old city of Dresden will entertain you. Attend on a docent led day for an even better experience. We keep a family membership with the Kimbell so we can enjoy the art and experience the different exhibitions every several months.

Best museum in the Dallas area.

By Michael W |

Fabulous smallish museum with some great art in the collection and a wonderful building.

The museum is very focused on European painting from about 1300 to about 1940; there are some sculptures but the museum doesn’t have drawings or decorative arts or tapestries. The European collection is housed in the wonderful original building by Louis Kahn and it is gorgeous. My favorite paintings were the great Boucher set, the lovely and big Claude and the spectacular group portrait by Frans Hals. Not all of the paintings are on this level of splendor and there are a few paintings that show signs of name shopping (the “Michelangelo” painting that the public treated with so much reverence the day I visited seemed really out of place). All things considered, it’s the best collection of European paintings in the region by far.

The new building across the lawn is by Renzo Piano and it is a major let-down after the Kahn building. The art on display is still first rate: African, ancient meso-American, and some East and south Asian sculpture and paintings that are mostly Japanese. The quality of the art is very high in general, but these galleries tucked away in corners of the building make the museum seem like a bit of a hodgepodge. But who cares. This is the best museum in the Dallas metro area.

Fabulous museum, fabulous collection

By weststart |

Wonderful collection in a wonderful viewing space. Award winning architecture and a collection a tasteful billionaire might own. Never disappoints.

Loved this museum inside and outside

By Carol G |

Wonderful architecture and landscaping. Great collection of famous European artists. And current exhibit of Balenciaga's designer clothing is very interesting. Had a great docent led tour. Recommend planning visit around docent tour times. Even enjoyed shopping in the gift shop. All employees so friendly.

Monet Exhibit!

By Jennifer G |

We went here specifically to see the Monet exhibit. It was amazing to see all the paintings in one area. It was very interesting since this exhibit focused on his later works. You get an audio tour included in your admission. We went on Tuesday since they had half priced admission. Be sure to go – you will not be disappointed!

A pleasant way to spend the day.

By GrumpyandtheOldLady |

Spending the day at the Kimbell Art Museum was a great choice. The artwork was diverse and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the exhibits. An added bonus was being able to watch as groups of art students, sitting in various rooms, sketching their assigned statue as the professor walked back and forth among them. It was fun observing their progress. Some were quite good. There is a nice gift shop and a cafe.

World Class art and museum!

By John |

A breath taking experience. You won’t believe the works of world class art inside this award winning designed structure. Yes, right here in Cow Town! A must go and see for anyone!

Impressive museum, free admission

By autumncs |

I am very impressed by the wide range of art displayed despite the small size of the museum. Most movements in Western art from Classical Greek/Roman to Impressionism and Cubism are represented. There is also a small but impressive collection of Asian, African, Oceanic and pre-Columbian art. The architecture itself is also very impressive. The best thing is, admission is free and the museum is air-conditioned. The staffs were friendly and they let me deposit my bag for free.

The building is just as beautiful and unique as the art it houses

By Christy K |

Definitely a museum to visit when in Dallas/Fort Worth area. The layout is open and fluid, and art displayed well. A beautiful building with interesting history of its design and making as well.

Small but spectacular collection

By Brendan S |

The Kimbell Museum is notable for both its arched design by famous architect Louis
Kahn as well as its high quality of mostly European paintings from the Renaissance to Impressionism and Picasso. There are paintings by Goya, Velazquez, Caravaggio, Monet and Michelangelo’s first painting, as well as some ancient sculptures from Greece, Egypt and Assyria. It’s a very small collection with only about a hundred works on display. There is a companion pavilion building with special exhibitions, but they were between exhibits when I visited and the permanent collection did not take long to see. I liked that every piece had a multi-paragraph explanatory card, and it’s a rare free museum, too.

Friday Afternoon visit

By PB123 |

The Kimball is open late on Fridays. It really is architecturally great and they have some excellent art and sculpture on show. It is definitely worth a visit.

Beauty and Serenity Defined

By Michael Mullins |

The Kimbell in Fort Worth can more than hold its own with the world's other finest smaller museums. Blessed with an enormous endowment and extraordinary curatorial taste and knowledge, the museum is able to compete with museums many times larger for the best examples of an artist's work. The European and Asian collections rank among the finest anywhere, from Caravaggio masterpieces and sublime SE Asian sculptures to the only Michelangelo in the Western Hemisphere. The treasures are housed in one of the most modern beautiful buildings in the world, no matter the size, Louis Khan's widely acknowledged masterpiece. Unfortunately, the museum's new building by Lorenzo Piano doesn't compare with the Khan building's grace and elegance, and its placement on a once-sprawling lawn in front of the Kimbell diminishes the outdoor experience significantly.
The Khan building's lovely and easy Buffet Restaurant offers delicious fresh food and wine in, as expected, an elegant setting, complete with lovely little courtyard centered by a world famous Maillol statue.

Calm and peaceful place to visit

By vienna1952 |

We went to see the Caravaggio painting and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent layout and lighting of this museum that displayed several well known artist's work. It is quiet, calm and a well lit and laid out museum with very helpful staff if required. The cafe on site was also good.

Kimball; Great permanent collect + excellent exhibitions

By Mac M |

We are members of 4 art museums. We average a visit a week to various art museums every year. I find the Kimball is the best place to drop in for 90 minutes to 2 hours. Easy to get to and park! The buildings are designed by world class architects. The gift shop has an excellent array of books, broader than larger museums. There are at least two special exhibits a year that pull me in, usually for a second visit as well. There are frequent and significant new additions to the permanent collection. Always a pleasure.

Great collections and visiting exhibits

By mortar475 |

The Kimbell provides two buildings and there's much to see in both. The permanent collection has an unusually large number of masterpieces for the size of the collection. The Asian collection is especially good, but so is the European, particularly the Renaissance and Impressionist. For instance, Bernini, Ruisdael, Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, and several other painters are represented by works among their very best. The visiting exhibits also tend to be top notch--often fantastic. In recent years, the Le Nain brothers exhibit was of historical importance, bringing together for the first time so many of their works from around their world. A recent Goya exhibit of his drawings was also fantastic. Each of these exhibits I visited at least 6 times.

Monet in a Warehouse?

By Rhonda A |

My father once worked for Mr. Kimball and his related companies. I recall walking through the halls of the once "un-guarded" warehouse of Kimball's corporate offices of yesteryear. Though I was a small child at the time, I could only mildly appreciate the paintings of Monet, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh, among others, which were curiously within my reach. These paintings of what are now in the "permanent collection" section of the impressive Kimball Art Museum, once adorned the walls of a very simple warehouse office space. How could I have known then, what I can fully appreciate nowadays, of the wealth of beauty which lined the walls of my childhood experience?

Though my childhood experiences of being so near to these paintings of the masters in unfiltered access, the present day Kimball Art Museum still provides a unique level of intimate connection with both the permanent as well as the traveling collections.

World Class Museum in the Fort Worth Arts District

By Richard W |

I have visited the Kimball numerous times since it opened and have never been disappointed. Kimball is the best place in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to view world class art.

Kimble is a great art museum

By lsmith76131 |

Kimble always has great pieces of work that come through including a great permanent collection. Well worth the time to visit.

👍 We Love It ❤️

By CDM49 |

As Museum members we of course visit when there is a new one. This time it was Italian Masters from Naples Italy. It was well presented and very interesting. The pre presentation night with musicians, food and cocktails was just excellent. Parking is available. Will definitely renew our membership.

Amazing architecture and art!

By Gail Goodrich T |

We went on an architecture tour, which was fascinating! The original building is beautiful but I honestly had not paid much attention to it on previous visits because I was distracted by the art - but when the docent told us about the planning process, the challenges in building it, and pointed out the features that make it so special, I will never take it for granted again! She also talked about the newer building, which is almost as wonderful.

This is a truly excellent museum - and it's free!

Monett The Early Years

By Bigboy48844014 |

Excellent, so many paintings and very informative staff, parking lots were great and easy to get to.

Renoir at the Kimbell

By sandra a |

The themed exhibit, Renoir, The Body and the Senses was just delightful. Audio tour provides extra tidbits of info that make viewing the art at this museum even more interesting. The exhibits are always beautifully installed. The Kimbell is world-class. One of my favorites.

Wow! Don’t miss an opportunity to see this small but fabulous collection

By mvidro |

Having previously seen some of its Asian pieces, the Kimbell has been on my list for years. The venue makes everything easy. Underground parking is free; you can get upstairs via stairs or elevator; its two buildings (just a short walk in between) are easily accessible; admission is free; it provides free folding chairs that visitors can carry between rooms (not all have public seating).

I loved the collection. There isn’t a 2nd tier piece on display. Example: it has a Donatello! The labels are equally great. Although I consider myself knowledgeable regarding Himalayan art, I learned something new with the 1st label, which was fantastic.

The on-site cafe is large and the food tasty. No reservations are required and the food is moderately priced. Some seating looks towards an enclosed courtyard featuring art.

It was a great visit and one I’d recommend.

I was expecting a more diverse collection and a more walkable building

By Tom from Texas |

It is not a bad collection, but know what to expect.

The collection includes some well known names - Michelangelo, Monet and others. A lot of it was focused on European and Biblical themes. There is also an Asian section and a small special exhibit of early Central American art. I found the main collection to be pretty narrow. Most works include extensive descriptions of the piece - they point out details that may go unnoticed, but it can also get tiring.

There are two buildings. In my opinion, they are poorly laid out in terms of accessibility or avoiding weather (it was cold and wet when I went); it was tiresome and probably impacted my enjoyment of the art. I'm not appreciating the buildings as much as others do. Most staff was friendly; but they seemed rude when I approached sections that were not clearly closed off (a simple "section closed" sign would be helpful). The parking garage, oddly, was the most pristine garage I had ever been in.

lovely museum-

By newlifechapters |

Went to a special exhibit at the Kimbell which was good and then spent a little time just wandering. Wide variety of art and artists which I like. It was a welcoming space, no feeling of pretentiousness. The grounds were pleasant as was the staff. Winner winner

Monet: The Late Years

By i_am_brendanc |

The Kimbell is a very good museum. Located in Ft. Worth's museum district. The Monet exhibit running now is great. His later paintings contrast significantly from his earlier, more well-known, works. Nice exhibit from their permanent collection too.

Very nice museum and Monet show

By Qtfish |

Our main reason for visiting Fort Worth was to see the exhibit "Monet- the later years" at the Kimbell. The show was fantastic- well curated- bringing together painting from around the world. Many were from private collections and so not usually seen. We also visited their permanent collection which is quite diverse if somewhat small-I'm a native of Washington DC, so the National Gallery of Art is my base of comparison. The staff are very friendly and it was an enjoyable experience.

One of the best art museums in the world

By Sunny Y |

The permanent collection offers quintessential examples of art from 2500+BC to the 20th Century. This was my third visit and I was as inspired and impressed as ever. A special exhibit of Balenciaga coture was special indeed, but with black backgrounds and dim lighting, the fine seams and draping were often impossible to see.

A marvelous museum

By Nancy M |

The Kimbell is a beautiful art museum. We recently went on a docent tour of the "From the Lands of Asia" exhibition. The docent was excellent but I was somewhat disappointed by the exhibition. I'm sure the jade, for example, was very valuable but it was not my idea of he beautiful jade I have seen in the Far East. There was not enough variety in this exhibition. However, the Kimbell has an excellent permanent collection and usually has great special exhibits.

Beautiful Museum

By 567travelrn |

I was first introduced to the Kimbell last year (2017) while visiting a friend in Ft Worth. We saw the art exhibit about Casanova and Venice and it still ranks as one of the best I've seen. Just recently I attended a musical event with two singers, a tenor and a baritone who delighted us with their amazing voices.

Art in Fort Worth

By J Lawson |

My husband is born and raised in Texas-Fort Worth to be exact. He has had a poster from Kimbell Museum featuring a 1999 Van Gogh exhibit. We recently married in 2019 and he showed me Fort Worth. This was our first stop since he's a professor and loves art, museums, culture and history.

Come for the restaurant; stay for the collection

By Michael B |

Great food (the chef is world class) in an exceptional setting with full bar. Lunch during week, dinner on Friday and Saturday. The collection isn’t MOMA, but there are the requisite Picasso’s, Rothko’s, and Warhol’s. Love the ladder to .... And usually something interesting not in the permanent collection.

Fort Worth, I am impressed.

By KnickerbockerJones |

This is a fantastic museum. The architecture is wonderful. The sculptures date back to 1,000 B.C. They have a fantastic art collection. My favorite is the renaissance period. It was absolutely breath taking. I loved how art students were sitting in their chairs making sketches of sculptures. That just added to the validity of the pieces as someone who is art illiterate. The museum is well organized and made it easy to follow. I spent 2 hours there and I could have been there longer.

A little jewel

By scott r |

Smaller collection but very high quality. This place encourages contemplation rahter than rushing through; both the atmosphere and your fellow visitors encourage a relaxed, studious viewing. Has a much different 'feel' from the larger museums, more intimate, and just slightly more serious. Free and could easily support a charge (shhh)

Really cool museum

By Hawksfan619 |

This is a great museum,

If you have any interest in art I would highly recommend it. We went to the Monet exhibition, although a little pricey, it was wonderful. Not very crowded, we were able to freely move around the exhibit. The art was displayed in an intimate way making it very approachable.

Even the environment and building design are interesting. The fountain outside made you feel as though you were in Japan; very quiet and peaceful in contrast to the busy streets in the area.

We brought a 9 year old and even he had a good time, lol...

There is so much more to see, we will definitely go back.

Nice Art But Felt Like I Was Trespassing

By Getoutmuch2015 |

There is some beautiful artwork at this museum, including many pieces by legendary artists. And because of this, I know the staff has to watch closely to make sure nobody tries to touch the artwork I get that. But, I feel like they could be a little more friendly and helpful. That being said, you should definitely visit this museum and the Amon Carter museum next door. The cost is free but a donation is appreciated.

I like to visit every time they have new exposition.

By marygarris |

Like the building, the cafeteria, shopping store and always art exposed. It is big place and can spend good time visiting if you like art.

Terrific collection, visiting big name exhibitions a bonus

By Rammy888 |

The Monet exhibition was on the day I went, in a separate area to the "usual" collection. Don't let that exhibition overshadow what is of itself a wonderful gallery. I started with the "free" gallery, and loved it. Free of people as well as costs, all looking at Monet no doubt, I enjoyed viewing the art of many famous artists and their amazing paintings. I would have left satisfied then, as I am sure many visitors will once the big name exhibitions cease. Yes, I did visit the Monet too, after all it would be crazy not to. But do go even when Monet has finished. Special mention also to the buffet lunch - tasty, popular, and with some decent healthy options. All up, a lovely cultural experience.

Free small museum with some excellent exhibits

By utfiero |

Interesting eclectic collection of antiquities and art from around the world. Exhibits ranged from survey of Asian art, antiquities from Egypt and ancient Assyria (pair of winged deities), to renaissance European art, to more recent great artists including Picasso, Cezanne, and Munch. Well curated exhibits set in a beautiful building.

WIFI is free and fast

Bathrooms: very clean

Great Visit!

By Michael M |

The museum is not that big so I was very surprised to find as many wonderful things as I did. Just strolling around and there's a Picasso! And then there's a Van Gogh! Around the corner you find a Peter Paul Rubens portrait of the Duke of Buckingham. Super place to spend a couple of hours. There is also a cafe if you desire a snack.

An architectural jewel, but no need to dwell in the newer annex

By RedRiverLawyer |

The Kimbell is a jewel of architectural design with the interior as uplifting as many cathedrals. The unique ceiling’s indirect sunlight pathways designed by Louis Kahn are the key, along with the soothing travertine and wood throughout. A wonderful setting for the carefully selected artworks which I’ve enjoyed since the museum opened in 1972.

But a recent visit to the newer museum annex disappointed. No cathedral-like uplift, more utilitarian. Worth seeing but no need to dwell.

Instead, plan a leisurely visit to the main wing ending with a light dinner in the cafe and, if lucky, accompaniment by a some well-chosen live music. You’ll find it time well spent.

Great place!

By Milton K |

Always a great place to visit and learn a thing or two. Nice and cool in the summer with lots to see.

Family time

By Ameena M |

Beautiful paintings quality time spending great ambiance loved seeing the museum took pictures too some places pictures were not allowed

very good collection - could easily support an admission charge (shh)

By scott r |

Writing to confirm that, on a second visit, this is still the standout museum in Ft. Worth and that it is as worth viewing the 2nd time around as the first - especially if you have enough time to devote a deeper appreciation of the works. There are some very nice pieces here, carefully selected. Best of all, all of this is free for the primary collection, which is pretty astonishing considering the quality.

Love that art

By Carolyn L |

The Kimball continues to impress with their visiting shows. Their own masterpieces continue to impress.

Incredible Small Museum

By Darshan1 |

This museum is stunning for its size. The breadth of its collection makes me puzzled that its not more famous. I was impressed that each painting is explained in detail. The museum is also satisfying in that you can see, more or less, everything without being beyond exhaustion but you will definitely have your fill. On top of this, the museum is free. Texas is very lucky to have this collection.

Took a guest on Sunday

By Christopher S |

The Kimball is in between shows right now, but has an incredible permanent collection with a bit of everything. The newer Renzo Piano pavilion is nice, but the original Louis Khan building is truly a great piece of architecture and has wonderful lighting for the art. The newer pavilion has Maya and African art. Right now, admission is free and it was not crowded at all. Highly recommended.

Architectural Icon

The building, designed by Louis Kahn, is a modern architecture gem. Not to mention the paintings and sculpture housed inside. Definitely worth a visit!

Go See Some Art!

By SouthernBelle |

Where else can you go for free to see art by Picaso, Monet, Rembrandt, etc.? The art is wonderful and varied. There are exhibits that you need to pay to see, but we were satisfied with the free permanent collection. One of the staff members overhead me commenting on the frames, and made sure to point out one of the few original frames. I would have missed that completely. Also, the museum itself is pretty with a great water feature.

Modern and beautiful museum

Such a beautiful and peaceful place-went for the Monet Later Years exhibits and was not disappointed!

Always a treat

The Kimball is a treasure to Fort Worth. From the sculptures to the paintings, it is completely worth the trip. Better than most museums you will visit.

Run before Sept 15, 2019

By Bernard W |

Run, don't walk, to the Kimball Art Museum to view the VERY Special and Marvelous exhibit of "Monet: The Late Years". The free audio with admission is superb. Plan a good hour to view this beautifully arranged exhibit. This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime exhibit as these paintings were collected from private collections and other museums from all over the world.
Tips: Tuesdays are half price. The lines were long when we went, but if you have a reciprocal membership you can go through the membership line, which was very short. It does not save you money like the dedicated Kimball membership, but it does save you time in line. Parking is plentiful and free.
If you miss this exhibit (until September 15, 2019), go to the Kimball anyway. It is an excellent museum. Non-special exhibits are free.

Great content and beautiful facility

By Isa |

Always great for a bath of culture and a moment of piece.
There are always things going on and it is easy to visit and enjoy. Check often the programs so you don't miss anything!
The location is great, there are other museums walking distance and besides, walking around by the gardens is gorgeous.

Great time out with family

By MissMellow |

We loved exploring the grounds and outdoor art work as well as the indoor exhibits and architecture. We were given the most adorable art activities when we visited the museum. The children loved it and are constantly asking to go back.

Fabulous art musem in the heart of Fort Worth

By BLDTraveler |

Just moved to the area and I am pleasantly surprised by the arts offerings in Fort Worth. And no, it is not all cowboy art and leather goods.

The Kimbell is a perfect example. It houses some amazing art in the permanent collection and brings in traveling shows two to three times a year. I went to the Renoir show and was impressed by the size and depth of the show. Other impressionists were mixed in for contrast and comparison. Renoir's stuff was comprised of every medium he worked with over his life.

As for the museum itself, it is clean, well lit, well staffed and simple a pleasure to visit. We did not partake of the cafe, but I hear it is quite good. I cannot wait to return to further explore.

Wonderful facility

By Vacation_seeker_2016 |

The Kimbell is a beautiful architectural structure, but the art contained within is remarkable. We found ourselves taking in Van Goghs, Monets, and Rembrandts but also enjoyed works from all over the globe.

Free. Fine Art. Must See.

By Ventura Hwy |

Here is hoping this review encourages you to visit the Kimbell Art Museum (and not wait decades, as I did!) The collection in display is large enough - and definitely fine enough - to be significant, yet small enough (and thoughtfully curated) so you aren't overwhelmed. A few of the highlights for us: a pottery dog which could pass for a 21st-century cartoon figure; Goya's portrait of Matador Pedro Romero - realism & personality; an absolutely hilarious genre piece by Murillo (which features the only character I've yet seen in fine art with an unmistakable "WTF" look on her face!)...what a great collection on display. There's no charge to view the permanent collection, and it's worth going back multiple times. For anyone close to Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum is really a local treasure.

World class museum !

By Dory310 |

It is classified as a world class museum . The Kimbellls were fabulously rich and endowed this museum . I was a docent here for several years . The building was designed by I.M. Pei Who designed the dome at the Louvre .

It’s a FW treasure!
It’s a treasure you need to find!
The building is amazingly beautiful and exquisitely maintained.
The lawn area is pastoral in a relaxed but sophisticated way, with a jacket over the shoulder, but no tie feel....
And the art!
It’s a magnificent collection with at least one of most of the classic artists, including Rembrandt, Monet, Rubens, and Van Gogh.
And the Renoir special exhibition, wow!
And more....
There is a charming cafe, and a nice shop too!
And wonderful activities and programs.....
I’m taking my granddaughter next Saturday for a class.
Kimbell is a FW treasure, and outstanding by any standard!
And good parking too!
It’s a treasure!

Comfort and Joy

We walked around observing the area and some of the rock formations. We finally settled on an area close to the flowing water and sat listening to nature and conversing. It was so seren and relaxing. There were other groups doing the same thing and taking in the beauty of nature.

Nice Collection

By Emily L |

An excellent collection, including a number of works by “big” names and free entry? Yes please! The website doesn’t show off all of their works by better-known artists, so don’t get fooled - it’s worth going to!

Favorite museum in Fort Worth!

By Laurie S |

I have loved the Kimbell Art Museum for many years. I grew up in FW, and have been going there since it first opened in the 1970's. They always have wonderful exhibits, and a permanent collections that has some of the best art in the world! They have a small cafe for lunch that serves salads, soups and sandwiches. It's buffet-style and little pricey, but always delicious! The new Piano Pavilion is fabulous and never disappoints. Parking is easy since they added the under-ground parking garage. Beautiful landscape outside to enjoy when the weather is nice. You will not be disappointed!

Good museum well worth visiting

By Kenneth R |

Free entrance and parking. Mostly paintings from the old masters. Based on how long you take looking at everything, it takes about an hour or maybe more to see it all. Good visitor's store.

Wonderful

By AVGTXN |

Went for the Monet exhibit and wasn't disappointed. Get there early and you can park right by the door. Very friendly staff.

Lovely museum. Special exhibits are wonderful.

By Jai A |

Went for Claude Monet exhibition. Paintings included Water lilies and other later years works. Learned Monet suffered from cataracts, which impacted his style. Audio guide included...definitely recommend. Have previously attended Renoir exhibition. Another is upcoming. Kimbell is a lovely, free museum with a charge ($18) for special exhibitions. Always an afternoon well spent.

Excellent Museum

By Keith D |

The Kimbell is an excellent art museum in Fort Worth’s cultural district. Go early and you can usually catch a parking spot in their underground parking garage. They have a nice permanent exhibit and have featured some phenomenal rotating exhibitions in recent years, including Monet, Renoir and most recently Bonnard. Audio tours are available via their app and your smartphone for an extra fee so bring your ear buds. The special exhibits are half price on Tuesdays.

World class museum inside an architectural masterpiece.

By Deborah B |

One of the best museums in the United States, this jewel designed by Louis Kahn contains masterworks by history’s great artists including the only DaVinci in the country. In addition to its robust collection and thoughtful exhibits the Kimball boasts a fine restaurant and gift shop. The museum’s grounds are beautiful to enjoy in any season. This is a not-to-be-missed attraction in Fort Worth.

A truly great small museum.

By SeniorTraveler500 |

With the expansion that was completed a few years ago, Kimball feels like a large museum, but it still has that small museum intimacy in the original section. The exhibitions are always first class and they have the best docents you'll find anywhere.

Don't miss the daily buffet lunch or the Friday dinner. It's a wonder experience to dine in a classic setting, with exceptional food.

It's location adjacent to the Modern means you can easily walk between two supurb museums for a fabulous day of emersion in the arts. Both buildings boast world class architecture.

Always New!

Family with children/teen and friends enjoyed the Balenciaga and Goya In Black exhibits and took souvenir photos using black clothing props provided by the museum. Fun! Looked again through its precious permanent collection and enjoyed walking and sitting by the green space between the 2 buildings of great architectural designs.

Little Bit of Everyone

By Christine R |

Excellent and varied presentation of artworks. From Ming Dynasty to Picasso, all was well represented and described.

Impressive collection

By Mary Jo N |

For a relatively small museum, the Kimbell has a very impressive collection that includes everything from Renaissance to Impressionist masterpieces. What they may lack in quantity, they make up with quality. Their Renaissance works include those of Michelangelo, Donatello, Caravaggio, Tintoretto, and Titian. The Dutch masters represented are Rembrandt and Rubens. Works of De Goya, El Greco and Velazquez of the Spanish school are on display. And finally, Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse and Cezanne are included in their Impressionist collection. All these and more are housed in an equally beautiful stone and concrete edifice that provides a stunning backdrop to the works of art. Considering this museum has free entry, it is a very special treat indeed.

Grounds and Buildings are Works of Art Too

As a member we have visited the Kimbell many times. Our recent visit was to see the asian art exhibit before it left. Always impressive displays and don't miss the special exhibits.

Very good collection, well curated...kudos!

By PuzzleSolver855 |

Beautiful collection although the Piano building was closed so our entrance was gratis. Certainly enough to see that we didn't feel shortchanged. I really appreciate how they had all styles of art represented from incredibly ancient to more recent and from well known artists. Ate lunch in the cafe, yum!

Very interesting exhibit, and lots of room to walk around. Didn't feel crowded or rushed. We just took our time and strolled through the museum enjoying the artifacts and information.

Particularly enjoyed Monet, but everything here is fantastic.

We love the Kimbell! They also offer museum school, and pre-pandemic we loved the little play room they offer next to special exhibits when we'd take my nephew with us. That way if he got rowdy, one of us could go play with him and the other go back into the play area. Their collection is curated perfectly. Can't wait to visit again.

Beautiful museum. Everything wonderfully notated.

The Kimball Museum is a beautiful facility with an amazing collection. The restaurant within the museum has a buffet with choice of soup, salad and sandwiches. There is a choice of a couple of deserts all of which are delicious.
The museum brings wonderful collections to town and presents them in accessable ways.

Outstanding art museum

Wonderful yet compact museum. May be the best art museum in the southwest. Has quality pieces from every period.

👍 We Love Visiting The Kimbell ❤️

By CDM49 |

As I said we love visiting the Kimbell and do so two to three times a year. Especially when they-have international artists
This time it was Balenciaga in Black, also Goya in Black and White. The display could not have been better. Easy to follow and read the history. Before the going in we attended the early party. Large crowd but very well organized. Plenty of delicious food and drinks. Also a live band not too loud and easy listening. The museum is well structured and easy to get around. Parking is free and plenty available. Planning to come back for the Claude Monet exhibition.

Renoir exhibit

By Gaye H |

The Kimbell is a premier art museum. Their permanent collection is superb. Hard to believe these pieces are in Fort Worth TX. Current Renoir exhibit is beautiful. His ability to paint flesh is unmatched.

A truly fantastic museum

By FWErmite |

I've been visiting this museum since I was a child. We've visited museums all over the world. For a community of its size, Fort Worth has a true gem in the Kimbell. No visit to FW would be complete without a trip to this fine art museum.

Two Buildings. One Museum. Greatness.

By James A |

Permanent exhibits are great. With a nice rotation of visiting exhibits. The architecture of the buildings are great to see themselves. A lot of stuff is free to see here. If you can catch any of the kid-friendly events during spring break and other times.. check it out.

Nice museum

By Silk_Robot |

Pretty nice stuff. The Monet exhibit was cool. If you go here, make sure to visit the Modern Art Museum just across the street, too.

Special Exibit

By Dan P |

Went for the Monet exhibit. Breathtakingly spectacular. An assemblage of 40+ of his later works. Vast in scope and scale. Well worth the price of admission.

Excellence

By Amira S |

Whenever I am in the town, I come here as I am sure that Kimbell will have something new! This November I visited two amazing exhibitions - Goya in Black & White and Balenciaga in Black. Both exhibitions exceeded my expectations (even tho I prefer Balenciaga). This time I was amazed by how accessible free resources are - for Balenciaga you can download free app for audio tour and there were exhibition materials available in large print. If you are not a Kimbell member, prices are $18 for adults, seniors & students with ID $16, kids up to 11 age $14, and kids below 6 yo enter for free. Kimbell art museum has great parking lot above the ground and a big parking lot below the ground. Also, Kimbell does not works on Mondays.

A must see museum in Fort Worth

By MichaelBNielsen |

Small, but very nice museum with paintings of some of the most famous painters in the world. In the collection you find artworks from Miró, Picasso, Mondrian, El Greco, Rembrandt among others. The presentation of the works are splendid and the two areas where they present the paintings are beautiful. Free entrance for the permanent exhibition. Outside the main entrance there is a awesome sculpture of Miró.

Ancient Egyptian Artifacts to Modern Art

By Legalpiratepoet |

What an incredible museum! From the ancient to today, the Kimbell has thousands of beautiful and meaning-filled items. Both their own collection and every visiting exhibition have been exceptional. I have lived in Berlin, Richmond, and Washington DC and no other museum I have ever been to has outshined the Kimbell.

Great Monet Exhibit

By Osote |

This museum is very nicely done and easy to visit. The Monet Collection was just great! Then we went across the way to see their permanent collections...well worth the walk, as their collection is really good. I recommend visiting this museum.

Small but world class

By jfadds |

The only Michelangelo painting in USA- check
A great Caravaggio- also rare- maybe only 40 bonafide paintings in the world
Throw in a Lucas Cranach and a great spooky James Ensor
My day was complete with these 4 masterworks
No admission fee and free parking- what else do you want?
Go and enjoy

Get your Art on!

My favorite indoor place to unwind and absorb some culture. I look forward to the traveling exhibitions! World class!

Worthy of a visit

By PhyllisBarrier |

Great art collection and lovely building. Lunch was terrific too.
We were disappointed in the special Dresden exhibit - lovely paintings but it needed better presentation.

Great place to visit

By 757wendy |

I am a retired Teacher. This is a great place to visit when it is too hot outside. Fun for the kids and adults. Kids ask a lot of questions and adults can answer. Keeps them engaged for hours. Always hands on fun activities for the kids during the summer.

Nice

We went through this on Saturday and enjoyed the exhibits and it’s free!!! So cool!!! A must in Fort Worth!!

Outstanding Special Exhibits!

By VanEsq12 |

This free museum offers a beautiful permanent collection of pieces from all over the world. Although it is not as large as other art museums in the area, the Kimbell has an elegance to it that makes it a favorite among locals. Visiting this museum is an intimate experience. Because of its size, one can easily spend as much time as they wish with each piece without fear of not being able to see everything. The Kimbell does an incredible job of bringing in special exhibits from all over the world. Most recently, it was "Flesh and Blood".This highly-anticipated show featured pieces from Italy and did not disappoint! NOTE: Special exhibits are an additional charge.

Just Popped in

By Mvanz |

We just decided to pop in and check it out, had no idea that part of the museum is completely free. We enjoyed strolling through checking out some popular works of art throughout history. Everyone was kind and kept their space. Nice to get out of the house for a few hours for a change in scenery. Next time we will pay for the extra exhibit.

Quick visit

By Donnie3217 |

This was definitely a quick visit I didn’t have much time but I was bored and wanted something to do and I definitely am happy I chose to stop by the museum I think it’s unappreciated in the area lots of friends and family in the area and most of them have never beenAnd I think a big reason for that is that they’re just not aware of how nice it really is.

Art For Art's Sake

By AMJ1015 |

This is a beautiful museum. Admission is free, so if you have any interest in art at all there is no reason to not go. I do want to note a couple of things that surprised me. First, the museum's total collection consists of only 350 pieces (not all of them on display, as far as I could tell). I had thought the Kimbell was the showcase art museum of a major city. It is not. It has to be understood as part of a constellation of museums in Fort Worth's cultural district, each contributing to a single showcase experience incorporating them all. The Kimbell alone is not an equivalent to the major museums in cities like Philadelphia and Houston. Second, there is no particular order to the arrangement of pieces on the walls. At least none that I could tell. So you will be dancing among the centuries as you go. One experiences each piece in relative isolation, rather than as part of art history or a particular movement (though the wall labels are blessedly detailed). That is certainly a legitimate way to experience art - some would say the best way. But it is not how larger museums are laid out. All in all, the Kimbell will encourage a direct encounter with each piece and appreciation for each artist. And you can move through the entire permanent collection on display without totally exhausting your aesthetic muscles. So I highly recommend a visit.

Small but lovely collection

By Paul |

A free museum with some very nice pieces of art from all over the world. Very polite and friendly staff. A must see in Fort Worth.

Beautiful Architecture- but make sure you like art!

By Els K |

Came for their Monet exhibit a while back. It was tastefully presented and generally well done. Great historical displays. Very interesting for an afternoon if you're culturally inclined. :) The kids didn't love it quite as much, for certain!

Beautiful Art Museum by visionary architects

By Iolani D |

The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth was founded by the visionary concept of Kay and Velma Kimbell who, among others, started the Kimbell Foundation to manage the private collections of paintings, sculptures and art objects including European masters such as Fra Angelico, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Cezanne, Matisse as well as collections from Egypt, Near East, Greece, Roman Antiquities. The Kimbell museum's original building, opened in 1972, was designed by world renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, widely regarded as a master of architecture of the modern era, with use of light, materials, space and adaptation of modern materials such as concrete and steel to ancient architectural concepts of columns, arches. The second building was designed by Renzo Piano, paying tribute to Kahn. Piano's use of concrete, glass, steel provides space for educational programs, special collections and a large auditorium. Admission is free to view the permanent collections but a fee is charged for special temporary collections.

Great collection for its size!

By themaskedman55 |

Admittedly, I only went to this museum to see the Caillebotte which is one of my favorites but I was overall impressed with the museum’s collection despite its size. Staff were super friendly and we geeked out together over Caillebotte.

Renoir a Winner

By Richard_x5173 |

The Renoir exhibit was fantastic. We learned about him as an artist and his impact. I would suggest the curator print the information about the pieces in a larger font. One of the people monitoring the gallery asked me to move further away from the painting, and all I was doing was reading the information. Older people need larger printing of information.

Love this place

By Judy I |

Joined my daughter and granddaughters for the Balenciaga in Black exhibit. Lovely. My granddaughters were freaked out over the gown with ermine tails adorning the back. We also enjoyed Goya in Black and White.

Every Piece a Gem

By dallasdr |

The Kimbell has amazing exhibitions, including the current one on Renoir's nudes. Creatively curated, Delightfully displayed. Not too crowded. The permanent collection houses a carefully chosen selection of major works - each a significant gem. This museum is a cultural wonder not only for the DFW area, but for Texas and the United States.

Excellent Collection

By herb v |

In a spectacular building in a beautiful setting.

Not a super size space (think NYC, Chicago, DC, etc.) but a smaller, more intimate collection covering all the key artistic periods viewed on a more personal level. Without fighting crowds or trying to rush from one gallery to the next.

Some excellent pieces from the top artists and also selections from some lesser known artists from key periods - renaissance, 18th century, 19th century.

And two marvelous buildings - the original gallery designed by Louis Kahn and the new wing by Renzo Piano. Spectacular architecture to see a first rate and world class collection. All surrounded by beautiful and tranquil grounds.

Go for the art - stay for the space

Visiting Art

By Christine O |

I went to the Kimball Art museum to see all the various art and heard violins. I was amazed the the Fort Worth youth orchestra was there playing beautiful music. I enjoyed seeing the outside art as well as the new exhibit. As I look at the paintings I’m always looking for style, texture, and technique. I really am glad that the Kimball is here for families and individuals who love art.

I Love the Kimball - Skip The German Political Exhibit

By Drewber5 |

I love the Kimball. However, the temporary exhibit, German Political Art, was extremely unimpressive. Sadly, I did not know that it was on loan from a museum in Berlin. I was expecting and hoping for some Nazi propaganda. I am a retired Army officer and a student of history. But, no German museum is going to display anything from the Third Reich. So, most of the art was communist, or socialist, or just paintings of people and art dealers. There were a couple of WW1 era paintings, and 1 from WW2, and a sculpture from the Nazis.

Frequent Visitor

By KathleenTodd |

As a member of the Kimbell, I visit often, and usually have lucnch. Last visit was to see Renoir exhibit and before that, the Monet Later Years. Every time, I am astounded by the quality of exhibits, the beauty of surroundings & the excellence of educational material. Love the gift shop as well. Always find unique gifts at reasonable prices.

Love the exhibits

By nightingale1972 |

We went to see the Dresden landscapes and they did not disappoint. We have visited the museum several times to see the traveling exhibits as well as the permanent collection. All of the collections are fantastic! Admission to the permanent collections is free; there is a fee for the traveling collections. Highly recommended!

Superb

By Philip C |

Diverse and rich collection. Not loaded with masterpieces but certainly representative of all the greats of the centuries. And, hey, where else can you see a Michelangelo in the U.S.? Throw in a Henry Moore in the sculpture garden and you've had a good day! Not to mention a fine cafeteria and easy parking.

Amazing Monet Exhibit - First visit to Kimbell

By EdwardsOklahomaCity |

We took the Heartland Flyer Amtrak train from OKC to Ft. Worth, returning the same day. It was very easy to take the bus from the train station to the Kimbell. Our sole purpose was to see the Kimbell Art Museum and the Monet exhibit. The exhibit was great! Highly recommend the audio guide that comes free with the entrance fee. The exhibit had several pieces of the same view - his house or the bridge, etc. Interesting to see them side by side to compare. They would have different colors schemes or details.

It was our first visit to the Kimbell. The architecture of both buildings is very interesting and intriguing. My only disappointment with the museum was the map! I have been to many art museums and rely on the map to make sure I cover all the galleries. But the map had several areas that were designated as galleries but were not. They did have a couple of different areas to get something to eat and sit and relax. Will be back!

Sublime outside and inside

By Rolf A |

The Kimbell Museum is one of the great buildings of the world. It needs to be experienced outside and inside. The collection is superbly edited to suit the space. The Museum experience doesn't get better than this one.

Outstanding collection

By Sara B |

Our first visit: wow! What a collection of art. Highly recommend it. No fee to visit permanent collection. Masks recommended but not required. We walked from downtown because it was a beautiful February day. Probably 2 miles from our hotel.

Small but mighty!

By Debra D |

The Kimball Art Museum is often forgotten by art history lovers who are seeking world renown treasures, but it is a treasure chest full! The museum itself is a beautiful building that is a peaceful walk through art history. Take your time and enjoy the various halls of ancient art to modern works by artists like Mondrian and Picasso. Admission to the regular collection is free to the public. There is a fee to the special exhibits, but Tuesdays are half-price! Spend the morning or the afternoon and plan to have lunch in the museum buffet restaurant or a snack in the Pavilion Cafe!

A work of art.

By John H |

The Kimbell is itself a beautiful masterpiece, while housing a wonderful eclectic collection of paintings sculpture and pottery.
Don’t pass up an opportunity to tour this magnificent collection.

Learned a lot about Monet, the artist!

By Sea Ya' I |

Debra and I traveled to Fort Worth to enjoy the Monet exhibit at the Kimbell Museum. I first saw Monet originals many years ago at the Boston Museum. I saw them again in New Orleans, also many years ago. This exhibit included the best known art as well as the most recent art done by Monet. I learned more about his passion for painting in spite of health difficulties. He was so committed he memorized how to mix his paint without actually seeing the paint or final mix since his eyes were terribly clouded by cataracts! I saw, for the first time photos of Monet and his family while he was at work. And, I had no idea his garden was established and the cultivated to be his subjects for his art. How clever! We used the audio tour to learn so many details about his life and his work.

The Kimbell Museum is absolutely the best! I visited Kimbell for the first time about 25 years ago and it was stunning then. Today, even more so. Debra and I visited most of the museum, not just the Monet exhibit. It required lots of walking and about 2 1/2 hours of standing. It was worth it...not only did we see masterpieces of fine art throughout the museum, we also enjoyed a cool glass of Chardonnay at the end as a reward. The Monet exhibit is no longer so I cannot tell you to visit in Fort Worth. But, what a special experience. I am sure there will be future opportunities elsewhere. Enjoy!

👍 Wonderful Museum

By CDM49 |

We are Museum members and really enjoy the special exhibitions such as Monet, Renoir and other famous artists. Just saw the Lure of Dresden by Bellotto which was excellent. Building is updated and very easy accessible. Highly recommend visiting and spend several hours touring. Parking is very available and free. We love visiting the Kimbell and do so two to three times a year. Especially when they-have international artists.

Been here many times, just another visit to see the present displayed art.

By ratk1945 |

This is a wonderful place to explore differing art displays. The advertised art is always interesting and challenging to the critical eye. The non-advertised material is frequently arcane and lovely. I have never been disappointed at the Kimbell!

Monet! Don’t miss it!

By Monica O |

We visited Kimbell to experience the Monet exhibition! It was excellent! The paintings took us through the fabulous story of Monet’s final years. Very interesting and fascinating. Highly recommended it!

Quaint

By 417Ladyface |

Kimbell has 3 main exhibit areas with revolving feature exhibits.

They have a couple pieces each from several very famous artists, as well as some fascinating works from lesser known artists in their permanent collection.

Parking is easy to find along the streets surrounding the museum.

There is a lovely courtyard between the two buildings. The second building has a children's play room, chairs to enjoy a bite to eat or beverage, and an auditorium in addition to a gallery.

Admission is free for the permanent collection, with a small nominal fee for feature exhibits.

A Fort Worth Must!

By Travelhound |

I visit Dallas often and always try to see what's showing at the Kimbell in Fort Worth. (It's an easy one-hour drive if you avoid rush hour.). In addition to their superb permanent collection, the museum books traveling shows of great interest. When I visited last, I saw the Lure of Dresden exhibit and was, as usual, not disappointed. Don't miss this place!

Socially distanced museum experience

By Texasgirl0915 |

We recently visited the Kimball to see the new Queen Neferitari's Egypt exhibit and was impressed with design and staff guidance to avoid close contact with other patrons. Staff was very helpful. Interesting Egyptian history and art - well worth the visit!

By Atul S |

Kimbell is a world class museum with a free to enjoy permanent collection that wows. Special exhibits frequently come to the Kimbell and when they do, they are really worth making a trip just to see them. What a culturally wonderful treasure in Fort Worth

A wonderful place to visit.

There are some very unique pieces of art work here at this museum and it is worth visiting, with free parking and a convenient locating near other museums.

Old Masters

By Geoff F |

We went to see “Monet - the later years” which was excellent, but were blown away by the selection of old masters and world renowned artists on display - I had no idea such a wonderful gallery existed outside the major capital cities of the world.
To see works by Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Rubens, Velasquez, Goya, Bernini and numerous others wonderful artists left me stunned. To see works by artists I’d never thought I’d ever have a chance to see quite literally blew me away. I’m sorry to say the Monet was definitely second best this day.

A View of Ballenciaga

By Travel Joyfully! |

There may be no more of an ethereal experience walking through a museum than the Kimball. Philip Johnson’s use of natural light and architecture to create a catacomb like effect walking through this beautiful space. We are so very thankful to have such a world class Architectural gem and Museum in Fort Worth!

World Class Museum in Fort Worth

By Christian C |

I've been going to this museum for decades, and it's only gotten better over the years, especially with the addition of the Renzo Piano Pavilion. There have been many memorable exhibits, including a most recent one of Monet. If you are looking to get away and relax in a comfortable atmosphere to get your creativity going, this is the place to visit.

Van Gogh says Gogh

By Travelagg |

Free to experience the permanent collection and the beautiful museum. Special exhibits cost extra but have always been worth it to us. We bought a membership and visit as often as we can. Plenty of works you probably would not expect to be in Fort Worth...but are here and displayed beautifully.

The Kimbell is yet another one of the many reasons we love Fort Worth.

touch of art in old west

a nice collection in a nice building, fun that you check your gun like you would an umbrella, good western art

Awesome art, quiet place

By Andrew H |

It’s a great museum and has wonderful art. I think it’s a little small, but they did have a speaker today that seemed interesting. I was too late to attend all of it so I’m not sure what it was about though.

A great place, but probably not kid friendly.

One of the Finest Art Museums in the World

By Paul S |

The art and architecture at the Kimball is amazing. The collection is small enough so one can see every exhibit without getting museum fatigue. The exhibits are of exceptional quality. Some of the greatest artists are represented: Michelangelo, Donatello, Caravaggio, Cezanne, JMW Turner, Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Edward Munch, Peter Paul Rubens and more. Fantastic!
The two buildings are incredible. The original building was designed by Louis Kahn. The second building by Renzo Piano. The buildings alone are worth a visit.

Monet Exhibit

By Dave M |

Worth seeing the Monet Exhibit. If it is still in town I highly recommend it. Don't worry about the line to get in. It initially concerned me but they keep it flowing rather nicely.

Wonderful Museum

By chrisY7812GY |

I’ve been coming to the Kimball Museum for years. It never gets old and I always appreciate the community involvement from the museum. I found it better to be a member of the museum then just a normal tourist. I have a lot of extra events for members.

Employees at Kimbell Art Museum are Rude!!

By carendaniel50 |

Looking to enjoy an outing with the family turned into a total unpleasant experience I would not recommend this museum to anyone! This museum is not respectful or tolerant to individuals with disabilities. There is a statement as you walk into the museum that states individuals who have health issues that prevent them from wearing a mask are allowed. Well, they chose to force my son-in-law to wear a mask after he showed a card from his doctor that states he has a limited oxygen capacity due to scarring on his lungs from surviving three pulmonary embolism and he now has a permanent disability as a result. Secondly, they forced all of the children, even the 5 year old to wear a mask. After the second reprimand within 5 minutes we chose to leave. My husband and I had Covid and wearing a mask did not prevent us from getting the virus.Bronchitis is worse than Covid and we survived on OTC meds.

Fine Art - well displayed in a comfortable place

By Z5159RGgerardm |

The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth is a truly great museum. The art is well displayed and labeled in such a way that one can thoroughly appreciate it and understand its place in art history and the history of the artist. It is truly a "clean well lighted place." It also has free underground parking, which on a hot Texas day is truly welcome. There is a small restaurant in a corner of the museum which offers very delicious food at moderate cost. The coffee and the tea are amazing! - Did I mention that entrance to the Kimbell is free. - Of course there is a museum store, allowing one to bring some of your appreciation of fine art home with you.

Kimball Art Museum

By nowpacking |

Having visited many times, I never realized that the initial artwork came from the private collection of Kay and Velma Kimbell, who also provided funds for a new museum.
A stunning museum it is - designed by Louis Kahn and opened in 1972 - the museum is acclaimed for its architecture. The light inside is magical and the views down the ceiling vaults are striking.
The museum seems small when you recently visited other greats across the country but the collection is ever expanding and the “Guest of Honor” pieces that are on loan add additional interest.
Of special significance are the special exhibits that are always very special and impressive.

Unbelievably great museum!!

By KAMartin911 |

Such an amazing place, and the majority is free! Picasso, Rubens, Canova, Van Gogh, and so much more. We skipped the special exhibition as it didn't interest us and the rest of the collection was so spectacular we didn't miss it!

Greatest little Art Museum in TEXAS Maybe the U.S.!

By SBaggy |

Recently returned to the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. First Time since 2013 when they opened the new expansion that now houses their Asian Art collection, along with other Art. I love this Museum, it has such an eclectic collection and features many traveling exhibits on a rotating basis. The Kimbell may be small in comparison to other Art museums but that is one of it's strength, you can make a day of it or a few hours and see some of the finest Art work in the world. Take a look, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

One of the gems of Fort Worth

By abqsage |

Always enjoy visiting the Kimbell- great art exhibits both inside and outside. Changing exhibits, so you get a new experience each time. Really a high quality museum with outstanding art.

Great Little Experience

By Matthew M |

My visit was completely made by the fact that I was there at 2:00 in the afternoon on a Wednesday when they had the free tour. It was only me and one other lady for the tour so I felt like I got a free personal tour. The docent was awesome. She was so informative and she helped learn about art generally and the distinctive history of this art museum. I'm not sure how I would have felt about the museum without the free tour- the museum itself is pretty small. The grounds and architecture are very cool- there's a lot of water features that really make it distinctive. Great little trip for an hour or two.

I also ate at the restaurant and it was very good. Upscale soups/salads/sandwiches.

Wonderful Exhibits

By jean b |

We enjoyed all of the exhibits at the museum. We wish that the museum attendants could be a little more tolerable of children that are well behaved but accidentally let their masks slip below their noises for a few seconds or point to a painting, standing five feet away while holding a map. Their parents are doing their very best to expose them to works of art and it would be nice if the museum employees would recognize that effort and be a little more friendly.

If you have any interest in architecture - you must go here before you die. This place is beautiful, the light the space, the contrasts of ancient and modern. Lightness and mass, I found it surprising and so worth a major detour across the world.

Lucky to have this museum so close by !

By ron4biz |

So lucky to be a stone's throw from this incredible museum. The current exhibit through August 2020 is an amazing collection from the Capodimonte in Naples, including a very beautiful Caravaggio. The curators have proven time and time again to be astute in amassing great shows and exhibits that really education and enlighten the visiting public. And, the setting of the Kimbell is serene, both the new and old buildings and the surrounding campus. Even when there is no special show, I love to go to the Kimbell and view the permanent collection, which includes a wonderful representation of the very best in art from so many periods. So glad the Kimbell is focused on an international presence, and still the charm of Forth Worth! Amazing. GO!

One of Fort Worth's treasures.

If you are an art lover, then the Kimball cannot be missed. From it's excellent permanent collection to the many amazing traveling exhibitions, the Kimball is always a good spot to visit. And with the main collection being free, it's a no-brainer.

Nice museum experience

By spw439s |

We went to the Kimbell Museum to participate in their afternoon tea service and then walked around. The tea service was a fun event and something our teenagers seemed to enjoy. When do you get to dress up and have a tea service in a museum? It cost a little bit but was worth it. The museum itself was really nice. It is a small museum but they have a lot of the big names in art. This would be a great museum for kids that don't like walking around museums (since it is so small). They have two buildings but only one is available to walk around unless you are paying to see the exhibition which we weren't. I would like to say that their parking garage is the nicest parking garage I have ever seen. If you go, make sure you park in the garage and you'll understand what I am talking about. One painting worth seeing is Michelangelo's "Torment of Saint Anthony" since it is his first painting and it's just pretty cool seeing something by Michelangelo.

Terrific Medium-Sized Art Museum with an Excellent Collection and Free Entrance

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Terrific art museum. Relatively small but an excellent collection of classic European and Asian art. The modern architecture museum building itself is a work of art, designed by architect Louis I. Kahn in 1972. Free entry and plenty of parking. It was not busy on the Saturday afternoon that I visited last summer. 1-2 hours will allow you to appreciate most of the artwork inside.

Outstanding Monet Exhibit

By Mark D |

The Kimbell Art Museum has always done a great job of bringing special exhibits to compliment their already outstanding displays, but the Monet, Later Years exhibit was particularly excellent. I highly recommend becoming a member as it eliminates the wait and extra expense for these special exhibits. Be sure to check out their gift shops. The main shop carries an extensive list of unique items. The exhibit-specific shop has many items you won't find anywhere else.

Wonderful museum that has strong and recognizable visiting exhibits. The membership is completely worth it, if you visit three times you've paid for it. The gift shops are nice and they are located in areas that don't make you feel like you have to buy something to get out.

The Kimbell is wonderful!

This is one of the finest museums in the nation. We drove up to see the Maya art and weren't disappointed. The restaurant is great too, and we spent a delightful afternoon revisiting many famous works of art as well as finding a few unknown jewels as well.

I was surprised to see the Fort Worth piano concert by Olga Kern set on the grounds of the Kimball Art Museum instead of Bass Hall. It's a very intimate venue, holding about 250 attendees. All seats have an excellent view. Acoustics are quite good, and the piano was a Steinway. For our event, center seats were good, as well as left side since you get a better view of the pianist (try 5-6 as they are on the aisle). I recommend free parking in the underground garage, as it's a rather long, indirect walk to reach above ground or on-street parking. My only quibble is the intermission refreshments. There isn't any food, FYI. As soon as they finish dispensing the $10 drinks, they started the concert back up and wouldn't let us take beverages back in -- unless you bought a $14 sippy cup. So unless you want to chug a glass of wine, don't buy anything at intermission!

Art at its Finest

We love the Kimball. We appreciate the permanent collection and enjoy the traveling ones as well. Parking used to be a stressor and the garage has cured that. The cafe and gift store are treats. The membership has such benefits and well worth the donation.

Art Lovers!

The time spent in the museum was well worth it if you are art lover like i am. Highly recomment it. Look for special exhibits that make the experience even better.

Art

I grew up in Fort Worth and was lucky to have such an amazing art museum withing walking distance from my house. They have paintings and sculptures here from all the great artists of history. From Michaelangelo to Vincent Van Gogh to Caravagio. This is a great place to go if you're an admirer of art.

Late Monet Exhibit

Best $18 ticket ever... we loved the Audio tour for this exhibit - it was like having an art professor share their secrets about each of the paintings in the exhibit.

Great museum, not so great Egyptian exhibit

By AVGTXN |

The Kimball is a great institution, but the Queen Nefertari exhibit wasn't worth the trip or the price (drove from Dallas, $0 to members) on members' preview weekend. I stood in line only 10 minutes on a Friday afternoon, but then took only about 20 minutes to see the exhibit. Not really a lot of COVID spacing in the exhibit area either. Felt rather cramped. Overall, it just didn't compare with other collections of Egyptian artifacts I've seen. Nowhere near the same quality. I'd be disappointed if I spent $18 to see it. Enjoy the mummified knees!

To redeem the trip, I again enjoyed the excellent permanent collection. Rather empty, which made it extra nice and relaxing.

While we've visited the Kimball numerous times over the years, this was our first year to become members (spurred on by the great Impressionist tour). When you become a member, you get a free Kimball mug. When I presented my coupon for the free mug to the ladies behind the plexiglass in the gift area, they were rather cold, to be quite honest. And this was a slow Friday afternoon.

After visiting the Kimball, make the short walk up the street to the Amon Carter. You'll be glad you did.

Small but Excellent!

By Katie C |

I really enjoyed this museum. It is a somewhat small collection, but it is very selective and overall excellent! The collection is housed in two beautifully done buildings and all is free except a single room that we didn't pay to go in. The art is displayed so you have plenty of room to walk around and not feel crowded by others visiting the museum. They have some rare pieces and many of the artists I recognized even though I am by no means knowledgeable in this field. I enjoyed the experience very much!

Best Bargain in the World

By Natalie K |

This amazing museum is FREE to the public. That means that ANYONE can have access to works by some of the world's most renowned artists. Yes, they have special collections that travel to and from the museum, and they require an admission ticket, but the permanent collection is free!!!! The Kimbell brings in some of the most amazing exhibits, some of which are seen at very few locations. They offer expertly guided tours as well as narrated programs via headset. This museum is a jewel in the crown of Ft Worth, Texas!

Small but Mighty!

By jbushman2017 |

This museum does not have a big collection, in fact it is rather small compared to some of the other better museums in the US. But the museum does house some really remarkable sampling of western art including some unusual Mayan artifacts, and other classical works. I was surprised to see a Michelangelo here, along with one or two works from many of the ‘greats’ in western art. There is also written commentary next to each art item so you have lots to read as you view each piece of art. All the art resides in a museum built for the purpose so perhaps the greatest work of art is the architectural building that houses the collection. To really appreciate the architecture make sure you go outside to really soak it all in. We spent about 1.5 hours here. The collection is free to visit.

Beautiful Museum Experience

By MrsF_islandtime |

Each visit to the Kimbell Art Museum is an exciting experience. The museum's layout is very easy to navigate and extremely inviting for all art lovers. Displays of the permanent collection and exhibitions are very thoughtful and the content is highly educational. I love brining out of town guests here to see what amazing permanent pieces the Kimbell houses as well as the temporary exhibitions. Hungry? You do not even need to leave the building! Their cafe is a convenient spot to grab a delicious light lunch. Parking is available but on a busy exhibition opening or closing it will be congested so get their early!

Beautiful way to spend an afternoon

We love the Kimbell and are thankful such a great museum is close to home. There are great pieces year round, but the touring exhibits bring us back also.

Fabulous and unexpected

Che spettacolo! I never imagined I would find artistic wonders of this level in Fort Worth: Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Mantegna, Bernini, Bellini, Monet, Picasso, Munch and many others. Not to be missed if you happen to be in the area.

World class staff, architecture, and art collection

By DallasDFW |

The Kimbell's smart decision to allow the museum curators to sell and buy as they see fit is the key. A handful of impressive purchases from Michelangelo to early Monet sets this place among world-class peers.

Nicely done lunch inside their restaurant with plenty of variety in food and drink.

Peaceful stroll through beautiful art!

Ambiance: 5

Spent a couple of hours at the Kimbell Art Museum. It was easy to find, plenty of parking (free), admission also free, but if there is a special exhibit there would be a price for admission.

They have an architecture tour, which we weren't able to do, but I would make the trip back to Fort Worth to do that.

It's not a huge museum, so you can walk around and take it all in at a easy, slow pace. They have an app where you can listen to the audio tour, which was excellent, as you can choose (by number) which narratives on which pieces of art you'd like to learn more about. Again, they do have audio tour for special exhibits, but those do have a fee.

They have a nice gift shop and a nice cafe and if you want a afternoon tea service, which I saw two different parties get and it looked really well put together with a nice selection. The prices at the cafe were very reasonable.

If you like peaceful, quiet day out, looking at amazing art and architecture, this might be the place for you.

A fantastic collection!

By beachnerd0704 |

I am so impressed with the permanent collection of fabulous works throughout art history. I go periodically just to revisit it. Their visiting collections are also wonderful. The museum is easy to negotiate, and we usually don't spend over two hours there.
One other perk is the children's programs. There is usually something to interest the kids during Spring Break, and it's a good way to introduce the younger ones to appreciate museums.

Monet exhibit

We thoroughly enjoyed the Monet Exhibit. It had been years since we had been to the Kimbell. The audio narration was essential to enjoying this exhibit.

Nice art museum close to downtown Fort Worth

By Jim W. |

We visited the Kimball Museum of Art on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. A local had recommended their parking garage, as he found it impressive. We missed the turn and wound up parking in a surface lot across the street.

I was confused by the Kimball's website - my impression was that it cost $18 per person to get it, but apparently that is just for special exhibits. It is free to see the standard collection. They should consider making that clearer on the website, assuming they want more patronage.

The staff at the front desk was helpful. When you enter, there is a large room with models and photos showing the history of the museum and past exhibits. Then you ascend the stairs at the back to reach the main galleries. At that point, you can go to the right for works focused on east Asia and India primarily. To the right are galleries focused on European works. Unfortunately we had to cut our visit short, but if I make it back I'd spent more time here. Also, I think there is a 2nd building across a small courtyard but we didn't make it over there.

From what we did see, this was a very worthwhile stop for anyone who enjoys art.

A GREAT regional art museum

By Stephen K |

Fort Worth actually has more cultural sites to visit than its neighbor to the east (although the Dallas Museum of Art should be on your list if you like art - it is only 40 minutes away via the DFW “turnpike” toll road). Love the Kimbell and the building design that brings in natural light. Note the sculptures outside (including the Miro).

A True Gem For Any Art Lover

By baldmongoose |

They have a Michelangelo. And Caravaggio. Something even the National Gallery cannot claim. A fantastic museum with some truly amazing items. Not on the scale of the Art Institute or the Met, yet it contains works that any museum in the world would be proud to display. And the works are not limited to one period or place. If you have only a day or two in Fort Worth, it is a place you need to try to see.

👍 Egypt Exhibit

By CDM49 |

Again the Kimbell has an excellent exhibition of history and fine art. Due to the current situation for health concerns. Entrance was controlled very well for spacing. And masks mandatory. The exhibition was as expected full of history and art.

Oh My Monet!

By jeanA5310 |

Saw the latest Monet exhibit featuring his last works. Oh my! The story is intriguing and his work never disappoints! Although I have seen several of his traveling exhibits, this one is unique and very worthwhile.

Wonderful experience

A crown jewel of Fort Worth arts district. Do not miss this gem when visiting Cowtown. A splendid time.

Monet: The Late Years is not to be missed!

By CarpeDiemDFW |

It has been too long since we have ventured over from Dallas, but the Monet exhibit was absolutely worth it. The museum and the surrounding grounds are beautiful. The staff was very friendly. The exhibit was well laid out and the audio tour was helpful. If you are lucky enough to live close to the Kimbell, then join. The membership fee pays for itself in only a few visits, not to mention that it keeps beautiful museums like this open for everyone to enjoy.

Solitude and Beauty

The Kimbell Art Museum is a rare treasure -- a wide variety of artists and artistic styles displayed spaciously.

What I enjoy so much is the variety of people who visit the Kimbell. This museum is for all.

And it's FREE!!!!

What a GEM!

Just moved to FW, about 2 miles from the Kimbell, and cousin from Houston wanted to visit...I was impressed by the quality, diversity and quantity of Masters they had here....and all for free on Fridays! Get here.

One of the best kept secrets in Fort Worth

By William P |

Great museum that can be enjoyed without making a dent in your pocket, as only special exhibits ask for money. It is a gift in the great city of Fort Worth, as you dive deep into the different galleries and through the different styles. Where else can you see one of Michelangelo's first paintings? HERE!!! Enjoy it!

Love this area

By N0rmalee |

Museum is wonderful and also free admission. Ft Worth had an admirable cultural center with this and other art museums s and galleries. They are all in a small area and free parking is available.

Unremarkable

By Sue B |

The facility was nice and clean and spacious but the content of the art was not to our liking. There were a few interesting pieces but most of it was too modern and of little significance.

Free Is Good!

By Jim T |

There are not many free things in the world today. Not only was admission to the museum free (barring special exhibits, for which there is admission), but so was parking! Amazing! Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The art is spectacular, and there is even a decent little restaurant attached. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Monet, Late Years Exhibit

By Gail B |

We try to catch any exhibit that features any of the Impressionists — and especially anything by Monet.
The Kimbell is such a great museum in a lovely city, which is always a plus. The exhibit was well curated with about 50 works from both private collections as well as other museums, including some very large format paintings. I had not seen much of his last work as his eyesight failed and I was sort of saddened by the darker and more depressing works. Nonetheless, the exhibit was very educational having examples of some of his last work. He was an amazing artist and I appreciate the Kimbell’s bringing Impressionist art exhibits for us to enjoy.

Saw a sign for African Art…

By saigon75 |

So we stopped in & really enjoyed the exhibit & especially the stilt dancers & drums! It was fantastic & a must as my father-in-law is an African lit scholar. How fortuitous! We were here for a family wedding & were happy to take in this wonderful experience.

AND there is no charge to attend!

By William K |

What is nice about the Kimbell is that it owns a well-thought-out collection that is not presented to the viewer in an exhausting manner. There is just enough of each genre to educate and entertain people without challenging their willingness to go step-by-step from one work to another and one room to another. This makes museum-going enjoyable. My wife and I spent two hours and had a great time.

Phenomenal Collection--all for free

By Anthony I |

I am amazed by the scope and breadth of the collection offered for free at the Kimball. It is worth seeing repeatedly.
