While it doesn't offer a lot of recreation, you may want to stop at Lake Fulmor if you want to do a little fishing or take some pictures, The water is very still and the surrounding scenery is lovely, especially during fall time, when the leaves are golden. There is a very easy walking trail around the lake. As with many of the other natural attractions around the Idyllwild wilderness, you'll need a Forest Adventure pass to park there.

On our way to Idyllwild, my husband and I stopped off for a short visit. Though small, we found the area well maintained and worth the time. There are some picnic tables and a wooden circular area to sit by the water. Bathrooms were not great, quite primitive. There were people fishing there for trout, but no one was catching anything. We brought our little pooch, which they do allow on a leash.

We were amazed at the beauty of this small lake and more amazed at how accessible it was for those in wheelchairs . . . and the quality of the picnic facilities. Fishing is allowed (with a license) and the lake is stocked with trout (we saw lots of smaller fish). Amazing orange and blue dragonflies were in abundance - we had never seen orange dragonflies before. Beautiful picnic facilities....grills, tables, even one faucet with running water. This is a popular place....and with good reason

This lake is like a secret oasis. So a quaint lake, not too big. You can walk around it in 30 min or less. It has lots of trees, a fishing deck and two nicely equipped bathrooms, BBQ pits and picnic tables.
We brought our lunch and sat on a blanket admiring the water and its lusciously green and tranquil surroundings. You need an adventure pass $5 for a day parking and fishing license to fish.

Lake Fulmor is such a cool little secret tucked away in the San Jacinto Mountains. It’s the perfect chill spot to escape the desert heat and just vibe with nature. The reflection of the trees on the water is super pretty, and the wooden pier is great for fishing or just hanging out. It’s quiet, peaceful, and honestly a total hidden gem for a picnic or a quick mountain recharge!

This is a wonderful park. Payment for parking is a bit tricky. you have to go into town a buy a pass and then come back....The good thing is that it is a yearly pass and cheap.

A beautiful lake. Great trails around the lake, it's small and easy walk around with small children. This place is pristine, with stunning views of the Sam Jacinto mountains. Lots of picnic tables and great to places t rest. Wonderful forest surrounding the lake with more great trails

Easy walk, more challenging trails. Dog friendly. Picnic tables and barbecues. Blue gill, rainbow trout, and bass in the lake. It was a beautiful, quiet spot for a picnic and a walk. We will be back. Adventure Pass required.

-air quality=10/10
-it looks like paradise in a dream and amazingly it is east bound of los angeles region. easy to forget near big cities.

Very charming beautiful lake, not for swimming. Again, it is the forest, but so many bugs make it hard to enjoy. Saw people fishing so must be a good spot. I really enjoyed this little area, just wish it was easier to deal with lol

We stop up here and watch people fishing and enjoy the shade on a summer day. There are tables to picnic.

By snwshrddr |

Nice place to visit, but the lake was much smaller than expected. Be careful not to miss it because it’s hard to see from the road.

Perfect place to picnic, hang out, and BBQ when not too dry...very soothing and has hiking trail. It is close to Idyllwild so you can enjoy both atmospheres....nap time and tour the shops awhile...The lake is tranquil and people who go there are not idiots....very respectful of each other...and spaces are private,

Perfect 1 Mile hike for families and dog. Very pretty and fun hike. We hiked after Christmas and it was empty.

Make sure to pick up your pass in town before you head out. And we found that there were lots of little flying gnats. The hardware store in town has little nets to go over your head & cover your face for about $2. It's a quick walk around the lake, with additional trails in the area. We are not fisher people, we are interested in photography and it was a haven for photo taking. Went early before it got too crazy.

Nice lake and picnic area but Must have a paid parking voucher to park there. I didn't know and waisted a trip.

During a recent trip to Idyllwild, we drove out to view the lake and take a walk around it. It is very charming and tranquil and due to the road closure just past its entrance nearly deserted. It is a lovely place to picnic or fish. Currently however, due to a large fallen tree you can't hike all the way around. Also, there is a day-use fee that you are supposed to pay, but no way to pay it on site - you need to buy the pass back in Idyllwild. We didn't know this and certainly weren't going to drive back 12 miles to get a pass. We didn't get a ticket or fine, but you might want to check in town before heading out there, especially if you're going to stay all day. I would love to come back and fish with the grand kids! Also a great place for photography

Nice little lake in a nice surrounding. Has a maintained restroom and picnic tables. A nice wooden overlook to fish the lake. Parking is near with only an forestry adventure pass required.

By Matt F |

Place is run down and not well maintained... you can stop and have a look from the highway but tha's about it

By Charles F |

Immediately on the highway, the lake makes a wonderful stop on the scenic highway to Idyllwild. Take the walk around the lake in 10 minutes, or just stop anywhere for serenity to overcome you.

Went fishing over the weekend to get away from the valley heat and to spend time with the family. Did not catch any fish, but had a great relaxing time there with the family. It was worth it. Will do it again to just to get away. Also a great place to get away and have a picnic.

Lake Fulmor offers beautiful scenery and the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful mountain experience. The lake, which is located on Hwy. 243 between Banning and Idyllwild, is stocked with fish by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. A valid fishing permit is required. Also, the parking lot, which is across the highway from the lake, requires a Forest Adventure Pass to be displayed in the vehicle. The pass can be purchased at the Pine Cove Gas Station, several miles south of the lake, or at several places in the town of Idyllwild, a few miles further south. If fishing is not your thing, visitors can walk all the way around the lake and enjoy the scenery and possibly some local wildlife. Restrooms and picnic tables are available at the lake. Swimming is not recommended.

We have a cabin in Pine Cove and often come up on weekends, decided to take our dogs for a walk around the Lake one day. Very pleasant, nice little path to take all around the Lake. It is a small Lake so it doesn't take very long. There are little niches all around to have a picnic lunch. We watched many people fishing along the water way, don't know how they did. There are restrooms close by so I would not have a problem taking my 3 yr. granddaughter. I would make sure to wear lots of bug spray in the warmer months as the gnats are really bad. I was sad to see how careless people are with their fishing line and hooks~ we picked up a lot of line so the birds would not get tangled up. Make sure you have a permit for parking so you don't get a ticket. You can purchase one at the Pine Cove Market-1 day is only $5.00 It can be used in other places as well.

Drove the 11 miles from Idyllwild to the Lake to discover I needed this National Forest pass. To purchase one, I would need to drive back to Idyllwild! A quick sprint around the lake before the ranger came, revealed it to be a family friendly fishing lake with plenty picnic tables. Lots of shade from the large trees. Many families were enjoying obviously themselves.
Must take the required pass with me next time!

By MaxMidnight |

Nice trail around the lake. We were worried about gnats because of reviews that I had read. We didn't have any trouble, there were a few but not a problem. I don't recommend the bathrooms though, really foul smell.

By CrankingChick |

This is a day-use area in the San Bernardino National Forest located on Rt. 243, the "Palms to Pines Scenic Byway". It's a small lake but it is scenic and stocked with trout fall through spring. There are two parking areas, a trail around the lake, picnic tables, and water and restrooms are available. Use of this area requires a $5 National Forest Adventure Pass (see the National Forest website for information). Provisions have been made for wheelchair access.

If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful place to get away, a place to stroll along the water's edge and to simply relax with the sound of only the birds in the trees...this is it.

By Karen O |

The lake is closed. A park ranger vehicle was parked at the entrance to dissuade visitors. It looked like a pretty spot. Will have to come back another time.

Lake Fulmor is a small artificial lake right next to the main road, CA243. A very easy-to-walk trail loops around it, providing, between the trees, scores of different views of the narrow lake. The lake is protected from the wind, so the water usually is perfectly still, faithfully mirroring the images of the opposite shore. There are benches and tables by the lake. An easy walk around the lake would take about 30 minutes.

By Kevin W |

The drive up or down to Idyllwild is full of twists and turns in the road. Keep your eye out for Lake Fulmor, and take a break even for 15 minutes to enjoy the beauty of this little spot. We did, and had fun talking to some friendly people walking along the path. And watched as others fished or relaxing.

Nice lake for birding and fishing. Tree area on both sides of the Lake. Parking across the street and also Handicapped parking right near the Lake. Plenty of picnic benches. Easy walk. Not far from the town of Idyllwild. Decent restrooms.

Serene location. Beautiful lovely lake with clear waters that you could actually see the reflection of the trees & the sky even on a cloudy day.

By travelingCAgal |

Out for a drive we stopped to look at Lake Fulmor. It was like a breath of fresh air on a hot day. With the reeds growing and hanging trees this lake scene was truly inviting. A man was even kayaking and there were a couple kayaks and canoes on the shoreline. There’s an observation deck with benches to sit and relax. As for me, I just had to get my feet wet so plopped on the edge of the lake and dunked my feet in the refreshing cool water! This would also be a nice place for a picnic although I only saw one or two tables although you could also sit at the observation deck.

A lovely place to enjoy a picnic while absorbing the life energy of the forest, water, and mountains themselves. Bring plenty of bug spray

By ManOnTheMove |

We would call it a pond, but nonetheless, it was a gorgeous walk about the entire waterfront. 30 minutes at most to walk, but oh, so beautiful.

By Gary |

Lake Fulmor is a tranquil place to visit - and made even more tranquil since Highway 243 was washed out - coming up to the mountains from Banning, California. This means the only way (probably for the next two years) is to reach the lake via the other direction (via HIghway 243 from the town of Idyllwild).

There is parking across the highway from the lake. You will however need an Adventure Pass from the Forest Service to park in this lot and display by hanging it on your rearview mirror.

Several people were fishing - and catching fish! I went for the loop walk around the lake. However, my walk was cut short as a large tree had fallen across the bridge at the far end of the lake, making it impossible to make the full circle. I imagine this will be remedied soon.

Having said all this .......... if you are visiting Idyllwild and want a peaceful - and beautiful - diversion, visit Lake Fulmor

Pretty place, even though it was closed in the winter. Idyllwild and Pine Cover are nice mountain towns. Good restaurants, too.

What a nice lake! Lake Fulmor is gorgous! Sadly we had no boats. However I will remember it, thanks to my camera.

It is scenic.

This is a great place for picnics.

A must see and enjoy as well!

A beautiful Park for a nice picnic, a beautiful walk as well as a nice area to spend time together playing cards and games. Enjoying being with family and friends. Also a nice time to feed the Ducks. We didn't fish but a lot of people were fishing that day. The only thing bad was the bathrooms, they were really bad! You couldn't even begin to use them. The stench was horrible. Also a great place for photos!

Nice shady little lake, well tended walkways and trails. Terraced picnic areas with many options. Fishing and butterflies. Nice short level walk around the pond. Parking nearby.

I love Lake Fulmor. I've been there during several different seasons and it's always beautiful. It is a popular place so if you go on a weekend expect to share your experience with other photographers, picnicers, and fishermen. Walking around the lake is free but you need to purchase a permit to park your car across the street. Permits aren't available at the site but can be bought at a few places ten miles up the mountain. Lake Fulmor is a definite must see. I always leave feeling refreshed. Don't miss it!

Beautiful small lake with very few ripples. A nice boardwalk. Lots of people when we went. Accessible for wheelchair and walkers.

By Kathy Y |

We did not fish but there were people fishing. Really beautiful lake tucked off of the main road. Parking is across the road.

We love walking around Lake Fulmor! Bring a picnic lunch and sit and relax. The lake is in the trees and is in a wonderful surroundings.

By Sharilyn M |

This is a sweet, small lake with walk-around trail, perfect for picnics and photography. I’ve seen some folks fishing here too, but I’m not sure if they caught anything. Recommended for families with kids under supervision, for short hikes, and instagram photos!

Great place to get away, awesome little lake with a hiking path all around. ..nice and clean with barbecues

By Henning F |

We like to wonder around the lake at dusk when the lake is occupied by all the people fishing. Its great to see their interactions. Great for bird watching as well.

Stopped by here on a day trip to Idyllwild. The little lake/pond is right of the side of the road. Both good and bad as if you're coming to picnic you don't have to drag your things to far to get a nice spot, but then again the highway is right there. I was here in Mid August shortly before sunset and there weren't very many people lots of tables available, but regretted not covering myself in mosquito repellent. The little lake in itself is not much to look at, it is very small and right when you come in you see a big sign that says not swimming lake because it doe not meet health codes. Yet it does allow fishing and there were a few fishermen here. It is dirty and full of muck, but yet it manages to look serene. If you come here for an easy hike, a little picnic, or to get some nice pictures then definitely stop by. My teenager got some great reflective lake pictures. There are restrooms but they are the forest type (nonflushing) and no lights as this is a day use area. The Dock is nice. They have picnic tables with grills, but they are tiered (think Asian rice fields) as it is definitely not flat. We really enjoyed our short little hike in this area. I would use it for a lunch picnic and a short walk, not an all day affair. Overall we enjoyed our short 40 minute hike here, there were several birds and the sound of the forest was relaxing, but don't expect a lake area with beach anything of the like.

It’s a beautiful small pond but the “loop” no longer exists as a bridge has collapsed, making it harrowing to walk around (balance and jump across a downed tree and other logs). We drove from Idyllwild to visit, and the 30-minute round trip drive was more time than we spent at Lake Fulmor.

By Joanne S |

We really found the lake to he very peaceful. It’s a nice short walk around the lake. There is picnic tables if you plan to bring a nice picnic lunch.

Lake Fulmer is a beautiful lake with great picture opportunities. Great for fishing and picnics. Lots of picnic tables. Beautiful views.
