Did the Mary Lake loop in early June! Saw some of the waterfalls formed from melting snow from the still snowy top mountains!! It was very windy when we went ... very senic

If you want to getaway from the hectic life of city, well, conratulations, you have found the paradise here. A beautiful, serene, peaceful... we spent all day, just doing nothing but eating, fishing, napping, and eating some more. We will definately comeback next year for sure.

By rsf4sail |

Go on a, warm summer day and you will be treatedd to Alpine lake scenery and peaceful writer moments unless you cross paths with rowdy boaters or get to close to fishing lines along the shore.you could easily spend the day here, pack a picnic and relax.

By Terry S |

This lake is beautiful, and this time there was no wind. Calm, warm days and nights. I did not catch any fish, but everybody on this lake witnessed the most beautiful sight ever. A bald eagle soaring above and coming down to catch a rainbow trout with his claws. I will never forget that moment. It was not crowded at all.

By IrishTomKat |

This will take you to several of the lakes in the mammoth lakes basin. At Lake Mary you can rent small boats and kayaks if there earlier in the season than we were. There is also Mamie lake the Twin lakes and Horseshoe lake. Horseshoe lake has an interesting aberration in that there was a large tree die off due to carbon dioxide releases after an earthquake in the 80s. We saw a bald eagle perched in a dead snag next Lake Mary. We spotted it from the road. Great place to see true alpine lakes in the Sierras.

My wife camped with her parents here years ago. It is still looks very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our walk and taking pictures of the lake and mountains around the lake. Would like to camp here someday.

By Kristine P |

Beautiful day on the lake! We rented a kayak and paddle boards at Lake Mary Marina. It was a lot of fun and awesome scenery!

By Chris H |

The lake is beautiful. You can fish, bike and hike around the lake.
So quiet and just in awe with so much natural beauty.

By Mark H |

Great kayaking, easy rental and helpful staff. We only kayaked a couple of hours but we will definitely be back.

By Cchen280 |

too many ices on the road though.. so we can't drive into it. But the view with snow mountains and lakes are amazing

By A A W |

The "lakes" in Mammoth lakes are a gift of nature. the setting of blue lakes surrounded by green forests are an elixir for the soul. It does get very crowded in the summer depriving visitors of the serenity they were seeking. Fishing is poor, The lake relies on artificial "stocking" which is unreliable. Having many wet shoreline areas, Lake Mary is often a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Don't come here in the summer without a repellent.

By ADVdude |

Love riding bikes around the lake. It's an easy, semi level ride with very scenic loop. Just keep an eye on car traffic, some spots get narrow. Have seen wildlife, including deer and bears.

By Starviagera |

Went to every single lake and they are all great. They all have boats and kayaks for rent and have plenty of fishermen on them. I was looking for a spot to have a picnic and since we did not find one, we just sat on some rocks. At the end of the drive in lake George, we found a table right in front of the lake! If we had just driven a little bit longer! All the lakes are neat.

By Meda.C |

It is a beautiful and quiet place for camping and walking and going by boat. the nature is very beautiful there.

By TellTruth2016 |

This is a good little lake in the Mammoth Lakes basin. We went here third during our day of trout fishing. We like the look of the lake, and we could shore fish for trout. This day, is was windy, and then started to snow on us. So, it was not a good day to catch trout. Lake location is very scenic. Next time, we will bring a picnic lunch. We notice there are some camp grounds in the area.

By Mattylenzen |

Lake Mary has really blossomed into quite the spot above the Mammoth proper area. They now have paddleboarding, pedalboats, rowboats and kayaks for rent and the prices are very reasonable. The views are spectacular and the early mornings and evenings there are simply breathtaking!

By Daniel S |

I have been coming to Lake Mary for 40 years and each year I enjoy it even more. This last May we caught our limits and saw three bald eagles! Wonderful lake to rest on the shoreline as well and enjoy the sites.

By Di H |

We drove the loop around this lake, stopping at the marina. We saw a bald eagle, which was kindly pointed out by the friendly staff working on the lake. Got some amazing photos. Worth the drive.

By laura P |

One of 3 beautiful lakes in close proximity to each other. Large lake with a restaurant that has lake view.

By Eileen C |

Great place for hiking, eating, fishing, boating. Everything you want in the outdoors. Just down the road from Mammoth Lakes city.

By HARTONO T |

One of the most visited lake, very great view and picnic area. Take the free trolley from Mammoth Village to the lake, it was quick ride around 10 minutes ride.

By UltimateSports |

A nice view along the shoreline of Lake Mary. Great fishing but watch out for the Bears who cruise the shoreline looking for fisherman. They know that there will be a stringer of FREE fish waiting for them. Happens almost every day. Be alert.

By Jim B. (TEXAS) |

Visiting from Texas with friends. Rented one hour pontoon boat for $80 and cruised around the beautiful scenery at a nice slow pace. Was a fun hour for 4 people

By anniedutch13 |

It was just gorgeous this past month. Water gushing everywhere and snow still on the ground. Around every turn you have to get out and take photos it is so beautiful.

By ToddHata |

After lunch in the Village we decided to check out the nearby lakes. We stopped at Lake Mary and let the dogs sniff around, took some photos, had the kids run around. It was a really nice quiet lake, people fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking. The campground looked pretty crowded, much more crowded than Oh Ridge in June Lake where we stayed. But it was a nice stop for a little while for a change of scenery.

By GIGI ,2010, |

its was all iced when i got there and i got to stop and take loooooooot of picture and its so cool when its ice

By connie h |

We frequently visit Mary when we are in town, but this week was amazing. Found a new spot and caught 15 in about 3 hours. One was about 2.5 lbs.

By Brandy W |

I've been a bad tourist. I must confess, I've been visiting Mammoth Lakes for YEARS and never once did I take time away to visit the beautiful lakes for which the community is named. I have spent countless hours on the bike paths and on the slopes, but failed to visit the awesome lakes. This is worth a trip unto itself. I'll be a better tourist in the future. Mammoth Lakes has a life-time love in me.

By Lisa D |

We rented a paddle board for the afternoon from Pokonobe Lodge and spent a wonderful afternoon paddling around the lake. Reminded me of being a kid at Lake Shasta - we had a picnic lunch and the kids took turns with the paddle board.

By daniel y |

My wife and two little pups went to visit lake Mary amongst other sites up on the mountain. The weather was perfect this time of year. The lake was gorgeous as it had a walking or bicycle riding path that wrapped around her which was in plain site, easy to get to. There are little cut outs to park along the way or simply a parking lot. We took pictures and hung out for a bit. Would definitely go there again once we go back.

By Joyce C |

We did the loop the morning we were leaving and a storm was moving in so we did not spend much time at the lakes. It was worth the trip we took there. Beautiful! Wish we could have stayed longer, but the storm was moving in and we were on motorcycles so we had to go. GO TO the lakes!!

By cam4234 |

Spent 2 hrs. enjoying Lake Mary. There were 20 people in our party and we had 2 stand-up paddle boards, 2 aluminum boats for fishing and cruising, and a pontoon boat for some of the little ones and older ones. ***Suggest renting a day or two in advance so you don't get shut out on the day you want to go, Also, suggest renting in the am if possible as the wind seems to worsen as the day goes on. Fishing gear is available but pricey so suggest you come equipped. No license necessary for kids under 12. They do not sell fishing licenses at the rental counter.

By MrsA78 |

We spent an enjoyable morning at the lake (would have stayed longer if we didn't have to drive to Death Valley in the afternoon). There is plenty of free parking, something we don't get a lot of in the UK, and we rented some kayaks, which were really reasonably priced, to spend some time on the lake.

By Andrea D |

nice lake to fish or rent a boat. Prices for renting are okay. The small lakes in the neighbourhood are better for swimming or hiking.

By Audrey T |

enjoyed visiting this spot, Views were excellent and a nice drive from Mammoth Lakes village without driving for miles to get there Lots or peope in boats just lazing about or fishing

By Camila S |

Beautiful lake and nearby area
If you take the time, there is a full trail to hike around all the basin lakes
For us, lake Mary is one of the most beautiful and peaceful
You can also do Nordic ski and ride bikes in the area

By Doug m |

The whole place was great for photography. I used a 12-24mm lens to great advantage, but mid range and telephoto also used. We went in the afternoon when the light was perfect.

By Steve D |

Although we really couldn't find a good spot at this lake we have caught limits on trout here in past visits. Try and fish closer to inlets and streams that feed the lake.

By d h |

Just hiked from Twin Lakes to Lake Mary via snow shoe. Highly recommend. Beautiful and it was a nice break from snow skiing.

By Mike H |

Found a spot on the shore and dropped our lines in. The scenery is amazing. We all relaxed and read while fishing. We saw another family along the shore lounging in their chairs and reading. When some families walked by we heard them comment that everybody is reading. It's just such a beautiful and peaceful setting it lends itself to relaxing.

By Karenl L |

We were glad to see this title gem, and our car-confined german shepherd even happier to run herself crazy in the nearby snowy woods with nobody to bother.

By John S |

If you spend any time in Mammoth Lakes, you must see the nearby lakes, streams and water fall. All the water was crystal clear and scenery was so beautiful, If you are a bicyclist you will love all the bike trails. Best of all, it was free to see. Public transportation in the summer or just use your car..

By HelloMaryAnne |

Lake Mary is a beautiful mountain lake. The area is peaceful and quiet. The views are spectacular. The drive to Lake Mary is especially beautiful also.

By Maurice M |

These Alpine Lakes are spectacular but I cannot get reconciled to heavy traffic in such a heavenly place.

By Hassan H |

So wonderful lake with so awesome nature and wildlife. .
Surrounding by pretty mountains and gorgeous views

By Norm T |

We go to Mammoth every summer and we rent a pontoon boat for our family every year. Would suggest the Marina at Lake Mary. Two sizes and types of boats...we had a $75. per hour boat that could hold about 10. There is another more "elegant" one for $125. We did the less nice one and it was fine. This summer the lake is way down due to no snow last summer at Mammoth. But, this meant more beaches so having a picnic along the lake afterwards is a delight, You can also rent motor boats and row boats. If only two or three and there for fishing the motor boat would be the best bet. We reserved four days in advance and our boat was ready for us when we arrived. Employees here are VERY nice.

By docsoos |

Love Lake Mary very serene beautiful high mountain lake fishing was a blast cotton release lots of 10 to 12 inch trout and even caught a small Brooktrout highly recommend it for young fisherman

By Warren G |

About 15 min from Mammoth town. Quiet area...with campground and people fishing or boating. Excellent scenery. Because we went during off and on thunderstorms, we could not do to much hiking.

By bkute65 |

Great camping spot! There is fishing, boating, and even paddle boarding. There are many hiking and bike trails too!

By chela9992503 |

Great for fishing and boating. You can rental a boat and be on the lake. It has a really beautiful view too.

By Travelaunt58 |

Rented a paddle boat and a small motor boat to take family out - age 8 to 68. Best to Rent boats in the morning to avoid wind problems. The lake is small, but was just right for an hour or two of boating around. It was very pretty there and not very crowded August 7, 2017 about 10 a.m. They stocked the lake with fish while we were there - kids liked that. People running the place were very nice.

By John P |

The Sierra rise precipitously and magnificently from deep blue lakes (Mary, Marie, Upper and Lower Twin, Horseshoe and I believe George). They're dotted with float fishermen and small row boats, a few brightly colored kayaks. The bike paths have groups of families enjoying exploring paved trails. There's a pack station for horseback rides, unlimited number of scenic hiking trails and lots of places to fish. A happy cluster of anglers were pulling one trout after another from near a little dam. This place just puts a smile on your face. The aspen and willows were just beginning to show bright spots of yellow. In early October, it is spectacular.

By Esther A |

You can swim, hike, fish, boat, paddle, kayak, or just bring a picnic basket and hang out and this lovely lake.

By Sharon Jean |

So many places to see off of Lake Mary road. It was our starting point for many hikes. The scenery in this area is breath-taking!

By hockeye44 |

We wanted a quiet place to walk our dog and the lake is ringed with a road that provided it. Pin drop mountain silence at over 9,000 feet on a gorgeous late summer day...hard to beat.

By Helen W |

Beautiful high mountain lake with great fishing, boating and paddle boarding. NO WATER. SKIING. We foster rent a canoe and paddle around the lake in the early morning, before the winds come up. Views are beautiful. Lots of activities, great for kids. This is a high mountain lake so it is cold. We love it. Watched a lady almost land a trophy trout. The lake is full or big Rainbows and Brown Trout.

By Koenigworks9 |

Simple yet calm and nice lake to wander for a while, with some must-stop areas around it. There are few tourists (not much) and summer weather is comfortable. Road is well preserved and makes a full circle around it for nice views. Some boats are available is you like adventure, or simply have a rest in the shore.

By Michele R |

Very nice place but expensive. Food not as spicy as I like. Employees very nice. If you get there 5-6 pm the sunset and lakes are beautiful? I will be back and I live in ML. So I am always looking for changes. I like a view, windows, and nice people who know the food. I like unusual preparations

By Gary F |

Lake Mary was still beautiful despite the drought, as were most of the other lakes, with the exception of Horseshoe Lake, which definitely is much reduced in size. Taking the shuttle was easy but if you time it incorrectly there can be a bit of a wait between shuttles. We hiked around Lake Mamie and had a nice time.

By JDobbs |

It's always a treat to ascend the LMLR from the little haven below and follow the asphalt strip through alpine wilderness of pristine lakes, falls, towering pines, and a fascinating geologic history. The adjacent bike path is well maintained, and offers many great ways to recreate just a minutes from town.

By Dray27 |

Lovely lake in my opinion. I wish we would have thought of checking this lake sooner!! We were about to rent a boat but didn't have cash and it was towards the end of the day. The girls were really nice though and it seemed very clean.

By Billie R |

a great place to really get away from people. we camped for several nights, rain and hail on 2 of them. Still had a great time.

By Cathy H |

We camped here again this year for 4 days. They have 52 campsites and half are reservable and half are first come first serve. That has changed since I was here last. they all used to be walk up. The trolley is a great way to get to Mammoth Village and you can also transfer to the town trolley if need be. Best of all you can take your bikes with you and they put them on the back of the trolley.. And it is all free of charge. The lake itself is breathtaking and you can rent canoes, paddle boards and what not for an hourly fee The surrounding lakes are a lot of fun. We always visit Horseshoe Lake to see if any other damage from the CO2 gases have occured. The Crystal Lake hike is always beautiful and we allow about 4 hours to hike up and back and have lunch there. Twin Lakes is always a good diversion and my favorite lake up there. Fishing is abundant and be bear aware. We did not encounter any this trip, however utilize the bear lockers...Don't forget to visit the earthquake fault and Rainbow Falls, and Bodie, a ghost town, is about an hour drive. Worth the trip..Enjoy..

By GemStateRoadtripers |

Went up to the lakes area for a quick hike and so glad we did, this area is beautiful! Just a quick drive from town and you feel a million miles away from the city life. Lots of people out and about soaking up the outdoors, fishing, hiking, biking, picnics and cruising about. Everywhere you look it looks like a postcard picture, wish we had more time to soak it up but really could feel the stress melting away with each minute and well worth the quick visit.

By Greg L |

Good looking lake, didn't fish or camp, but it was nice to visit. There are areas to walk up and fish from shore all over the lake. They also have a marina, with boat rentals.

By georgehI6442LD |

Another one of the lake that the FREE Mammoth Trolley goes by. The views are incredible. This is a great place for a quite picnic

By Kathy R |

Great place for a picnic. A must see...also go horseback riding near there and the trail will take you above the lake...great place to fish and bike around.

By Elise S |

We went for a walk around the lake and every moment was another picture worthy one :) It was so beautiful and definitely a place to make sure to have time for walking around and just enjoying nature!

By Hayley A |

We rented two single-person kayaks from Lake Mary Marina. We booked online the night before for a 15:00-17:00 time slot. There was a free shuttle bus there and back from The Village which made transport really easy.

The lake itself was beautiful and very serene. There were a few other people on the lake but it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! Lots of ducks swimming around too. You could see people cycling and walking around the lake too.

By mel1555 |

I love trout fishing in the Mammoth Lakes basin and Lake Mary is the largest lake. There are rental boats available at marinas on both ends of the lake. Great trout fishing from boats or the bank for rainbows, brook and brown trout. Not a particularly deep lake but enough depth for trolling. The Lake Mary Store has an impressive tackle shop. Good sized cabins are available at Crystal Crag Lodge. Reservations well in advance of your stay are recommended. Lots of camping around the lake.

By GIVox1234 |

The Mammoth Lakes area is a family-friendly destination. Fishing, Skiing, Hiking...or you can choose to commune with Nature, meditate and write a book....our family has been making the trek for generations. Tip: Google for info prior to vacation. (ex. fishing activity)

By Cheryl E |

This is a go to place for fishing. Nice marina and store. The drive around the lake is very scenic. Many places to sop and walk or fish from the shoreline. Nice camping area and parking as well.

By Michelle B |

Lake Mary is very pretty. Lots of people were fishing there. We hiked around. There's also a bike trail. It was hard to find a place to park though.

By Momof3boys11235 |

We rented a double kayak and had an amazingly peaceful time out on Lake Mary! We went from 10:00 - 12:00 and it was perfect! We didn't have too much wind. It started picking up when we were getting off. Bring some snacks and just enjoy the view, relax and explore! I had reserved the kayak a couple days in advance online, but there seemed to be plenty of kayaks available, so I don't know if you need to do that. They were very nice, helpful and organized there! We then hiked up to Heart Lake after this since it was relatively close. Great Day! Also, don't forget the bug spray!

By Alfonzia |

We had always driven to June Lake or Convict Lake for our fishing trips while in staying in Mammoth. This year, we decided to stay local and started with Lake Mary. WE stumbled upon the Pokonobe Marina and am really glad we did. The guys in there got us set up on a small motor boat and gave us some great fishing tips. My son caught his first fish ever and we had so much fun that we came back two days later with our friends and rented their 10-person pontoon boat. I wouldn't say we fished the lake dry... but that has more to do with the fishermen on board our boat then the lake itself. And even when the fish weren't biting, the natural beauty surrounding the lake was breathtaking. You could easily spend a full day here and not be bored.

By TJWilliamsDanville |

This review is written keeping in mind that we visited Lake Mary on the fourth year of a lengthy drought in California. Despite its low water levels, the lake is family friendly and beautiful. My friend and I paddled around on boards while our husbands rented a pontoon boat and allowed the kiddies to "drive" it, chasing us around the lake. We accessed the lake from the Pokonobe Resort and Marina, which I would highly recommend arriving prior to 12 noon to secure a spot and a rental.

By Mammothgal |

Rented kayaks and paddle boards- chilling on the beach in front of pokenobe marina- beautiful views-

By Steven W |

This is one of the more popular areas in Mammoth, but is very beautiful. We were there at the peak of fall colors, which made a spectacular sight. Explore some of the other lakes in the area, as well. Seems to be a popular fishing place.

By 2016Neale |

Mammoth Lakes is a great place to hike and Lake Mary is one of my favorites. I feel rejuvenated when I walk around this and other lakes close by.

By EvieMiqueleiz |

Love love love Lake Mary. It is clean with various beach spots to fish with the dogs. Campgrounds are clean with clean bathrooms.

By Alisha R |

Great place for the whole family. You can rent boats to fish or rent paddle boats, kayaking & paddle boards. We had a great time. Husband caught 6 fish that day from a boat we rented. Great price on small boat rentals we thought.

By Meori H |

It was one of the best moments in our trip. Totally recommend to rent a boat and enjoy the magical atmosphere around. Watch out - water is cold ;)

By Caleab L |

My sons and I had a great day fishing and kayaking. We caught a total of six (6) trout, which we put in foil with some butter, lemon, and salt and pepper and threw on the grill as soon as we got back to our Chalet. Delicious! Anyway, the lake was beautiful and clean, and the backdrop of the Mammoth Alps was absolutely gorgeous. The lake is very easy to access, just off the main highway leading out of the town of Mammoth. There is a beach for swimmers and sunbathers, but we stayed close to the Pokonobe Marina so we could fish and kayak. Anyway, my buddy David joined us and caught a 6-7 lbs trout (photo is attached). No joke folks, this place is a great place to fish. Thank you for a great day Lake Mary!

By Armatian B |

The water fall infornt of it is very beautiful ,the lake is not big in size and you are better to see two more lake above this road as well.

By Annette A |

We like this location so much we stay in a cabin here every year. it is the largest lake in the Mammoth Lakes region.

By HBmike001 |

Nice drive around the lake. Worth the time. But very cold after october. And the snowpack is significant in winter

By Kent S |

This is probably the best lake is the Mammoth Basin to walk around and visit the various camp sites that surround this area. It is easy driving distance from town (5-10 minutes up US 203/Lake Mary Road), or bike (going uphill is a little rough but going down is fun!). There is also a walking trail that goes from down all the way up to Horseshoe Lake (the farthest from town). There are two Lakefront stores on opposite sides of the Lake where you can rent boats, paddleboards, pontoon boats etc) and purchase supplies and food. Fishing is usually good depending on the location (best is near the inlets). There is a picturesque "park bench" dedicated to a local skier off the main road which can only be seen and reached if you are hiking. It's an easy walk from this lake to the waterfall that feeds Twin Lakes and also a nice walk to Lake Mamie and Horseshoe Lake.

By Todd T |

Had two families of 4 out on the lake for the afternoon on one of the Pokenobe pontoons.
Staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Really great experience out on the lake today.

By daljulie |

We drove this loop in July 2017 when lakes were full & waterfalls at their peak. Paradise! Lots of stops to get out & walk over a bridge & get different perspectives. Gorgeous!

By memullinax |

We just took a scenic ride around the lake and stopped for some quick photos. There were several choices of activities available if you would like to explore the lake.

By SwedishChick66 |

Gorgeous lake tucked in the mountains above Mammoth. Great fishing and boating. The lake is big, so even when it's crowded, you should be able to find your "own spot" for fishing.

By amanda42 |

We hiked around the lake and saw many people fishing, paddle boats, ect. If our daughter was older (17 months) we would have done more water activities. It's very pretty up in this area.

By PaulofPleshey |

Beautiful lake about 5 miles from Mammoth Lake village. Quite busy on a Sunday. There is a scenic drive right or walk round the lake and there are boats to hire too.

By David B |

Excellent camping sites though only water is available. Mary is a high Sierra lake and you should take your time moving around if you are from lower elevations. Fishing can be excellent. Boats are available from the little store. Bears can be a problem if you aren't careful and don't keep your camp clean. It takes about twenty minutes to get to Vons.

By Joe Alejo |

in my opinion one of the prettiest lakes around the mammoth lakes basin! it's a pretty short drive around but I recommend parking the car and taking a little stroll around it...it's high in elevation so there's always a good breeze flowing through...good fishing too if you're so inclined!

By TheMapMan123 |

I went to Mammoth last week for another week of relaxation! I ended up in Lake Mary on Wednesday and had another exceptional day, 3 hours of kayaking on the Lake. It was a gorgeous day besides in sounds were exceptional and once again Cameron and Brayden were there to help make sure that I got in and out with no hassles! A big thank you to Lake Mary crew I look forward to seeing you all soon!!!

By Rosanna B |

Peaceful place to take a walk or hike, depend on your preferences. Beautiful sight-seen and surroundings.

By archaic2015 |

The bears are very smart. They go after the stringers of fish caught by the fishermen fishing from the shores.

By Bill S |

Pleasant views from a beautiful location. Boating, fishing, swimming and camping all in the same place. Several lodges and cabins to stay at as well.

By foodiefool_10 |

Lake is very tiny. It is hard to find a public access launch. It is also extremely crowded - even on a weekday after school has started. Way too many boats rented and allowed on to make it a quality experience. May be nice for first-time kayakers to feel safer.

By Sally M |

Easy 2.5 mile round trip hike to the lake with beautiful scenery and quiet time. The trail is well marked and not too steep.

By Trip2012 |

Today we visited Lake Mary and had a wonderful experience at the Lake Mary Marina. We rented a pontoon boat for our family that included grandma, grandpa, 2 grandchildren, daughter, and her husband. I also purchased a beginners fishing pole for my 5 year old grandson. We had a lovely time on the lake. It was beautiful and peaceful. My grandson loved trying out his new pole and learning to cast the line. Unfortunately, but almost at the end of our time he broke the line and lost his little fish weight. He was devastated by this, but when we returned and asked about a new weight he was generous enough to give him a brand new red weight he took from a packaged pole. It was very thoughtful of him. I highly recommend this Marina.

By Jim P |

What a wonderful place to walk around, hike, paddle board, boat, etc. Very tranquil. breathtaking scenery all around. You won't be disappointed!

By Sue E |

My husband & I took the grand~daughters fishing at Lake Mary. Nice beautiful lake with some amazing scenery to look at. The girls tried their luck at fishing...but didn't catch a thing. You can either drive your own car or take the shuttle bus from town up to the lake.

By Curiosity776424 |

I camped at Coldwater Creek, across the road from Lake Mary.
It is an easy walk from campground to Lake.
Fun to watch fishermen, kayakers, and see others walking the area.
There is a lodge and store and a Marina.
Such pristine beauty is hard to beat.

By MScottMartin |

You won't find a more beautiful walk than this 2 mile, flat, walk around Lake Mary. Stop by the Lake Mary store to arrange a boat or canoe to go after the big trout known to exist in this lake. On the other end of the lake is Pokonobe Lodge where you can enjoy lunch or shop in their store.

By Alexjp818 |

Thas a nice lake I enjoy the day with my family ! beautiful day weather was perfect! One of my favorite lakes

By Linda G |

the scenery all around Mammoth is worth the trip. it was exceptional. everyone we met went out of their way to be helpful.

By Georgia M |

We got public transport from the town to the lakes basin and it was beautiful! We enjoyed just walking round and exploring then hired a kayak to go on the lake (i believe others are available too i.e. paddle boards, canoes). We went early June and did however struggle to find somewhere to eat. I believe many people were camping etc and have their food store but as for those who don't it was hard to find a place to eat.

Overall the scenery is really beautiful and would recommend visiting Lake Mary and the lakes basin in general if you are nearby.

By Pierre C |

Go there early morning (7 am) rent a boat a fish some trouts if you are lucky anyway with or without trout it is an amazing place very inspiring

By Scott |

Absolutely beautiful and serene Lake. Flat calm and great for photographs. I visited during a massive Eastern Sierra wildfire, so the air was filled with smoke and the sky was dark. But that did not stop this place from being fantastic.

By palmtreelover1023 |

We drove to all of the lakes in this area from advise from a local. Glad we did. All of the lakes here of the lakes are gorgeous!

By kyrg01 |

I can see the appeal for those with limited time and lots of kids, but as for getting away from it all, you won't be here. Tent sites are close to each other and the road. The lake is busy with everything from pontoon boats, paddle boards, kayakers and fishermen.
I guess I'm a little jaded after spending 6 days above 10,000 ft. in the area around Mammoth lakes. If lake Mary is your speed that's fine, just be aware there is a lot more to be enjoyed in the area if you so choose. I'd suggest a day hike in the little lakes valley just south of Mammoth for a taste of true wilderness beauty. It's not to be missed.

By PaloAltoTraveler27 |

This is a beautiful lake with lovely views of Crystal Crag. A lot of people rent boats and fish there. We just took a picnic and sat at the edge enjoying the views.

By Jeff D |

Lake Mary had good and bad to me. This lake has a bunch of camping and vacation rentals around it. There is a little marina where you can rent boats and other water toys. The views are beautiful no matter where you go at this lake. My only beef is this lake is always so crowded. If you plan on fishing here there is a person every 30 feet along the entire shoreline. I have been here many times and its always the most crowded in the valley. For that reason I avoid it. If your camping here its an easy walk to the water. The fishing is just okay, the camp store is nice and has what you need for a reasonable price. Nice spot, can be fun, but for me its just too crowded during the summer months.

Mary Lake Marina was a nice little marina that had ample room for our outdoor party. The lake was nice, and the fishing was superb from what I hear. The major downside was that the lake wasn't very big. Actually, It didn't seem a whole lot larger than a pond.

By NeoNorth |

If you like fishing, views, or both, then Lake Mary may be calling your name. Used to fish here a lot as a child with my family and have recently come back to visit Mammoth with friends. I usually come to Mammoth during the winter to snowboard, but this is a nice change of weather and scenery.

Traveler Tip: Watch out for rocks sticking up out of the ground especially if with elders or children. When I was little, I was running around and tripped over one. I ended up doing a major faceplant and have never recovered! jk. I did do a faceplant, but just busted my lip pretty bad and cut my cheek.

Nice views along this loop road. From the number of fishermen and women, I would say this is a fishing hot spot! Tackle and boats available to rent.

By Jiro_Kaneshiro |

Lake Mary is snuggled at the back side of the town of Mammoth Lakes, great vistas! and some pretty good fishing too!

By Leshansen |

While we were staying in Mammoth Lakes, CA we decided to visit all the lakes. This particular one has tons of activities, like boats, paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, etc. The guys that run the activities on the lake are very helpful. Excellent for family outings!

By akc375 |

We had a great time this summer renting paddle boards and taking them out on the lake for a couple of hours. A beautiful spot to spend time on the water and enjoy the mountain scenery.

By brumar13 |

Drive up through the lakes and see what there is to offer all year round great place for couples or families with a plethora of different types of things to see and experience. This would make a great outing both during the summer and or the winter for skiing.

By Tony K |

This is a very beautiful High Sierra Lake with incredible views in all directions. There is ample places along shore to fish but I'm sure in busy Summer months it could get crowded. There are Cabins for rent along part of the Lake which offers easy access to Lake

By martin k |

gorgeous lakes to see and use if you want. The free bus from town takes you to any of the lakes every 15 minutes. Fishing, boating, Kayaking available. Lodges and houses for rent as well but probably very expensive and hard to reserve ( not many).

By Annia202 |

our family with two kids really enjoyed the view around Mary Lake when we took the road. We stopped several times for taking pictures and having a moment to capture all the beautiful scenes around the lake on the way.

By fpc99 |

This is a lovely area, but if you are a "shore" fisher, don't bother. we spoke to several families who said they caught nothing in two days. If you can cast well into the center of the lake, or get a boat, we heard the fish can be outstanding. Unfortunately, we aren't those people. = ( But it was a nice place to spend a few hours.

By 2by2wetravel |

Lake Mary is a jewel of a lake, plenty of parking around the lake to park and bring out your fishing poles. Please keep in mind the water levels are low throughout Mammoth they did not have a large snowpack as in the past. I suggest a float tube, or rent a boat for this lake.

By malnit56 |

Whilst in Mammoth lakes be sure to go for this loop drive. It is one of the best scenic drives you will do and getting to the end at Lake Mary is just too awesome, specially on a lovely warm day like we had.

By Charles M |

Coldwater Camp is just east of Lake Mary, just off the loop road. Camp Site #77 is the best site, it is a level site for a small 25-28 foot RV, you have to back in off the one way access camp road. There is a running creek that will either lule you to sleep or keep you awake, however with enough adult beverage at your side, you should have no problem going to sleep (you have to move the adult beverage to your lips for it to have its proper effect). You are over 9000 feet, so the days are warm and the nights cool to cold, depending on the level of antifreeze you have held close to your lips. The best part about this site is that you have a very large area that no one can camp in just to the left of the table as you face the table from the parking pad. There is potable water less than 50 feet from the site, and flushing bathrooms about 75 yds away. The camp host is next to the bathrooms, they only have cold running water and not showers, but what the heck if you wanted a shower, why are you camping...The Mammoth Lakes area is teaming with wildlife, (other than the crazy campers), you need to know, that this is Black Bear Country, and each site is equipped with food lockers. This site is seasonal, June through part of September, you need to check with some of the Federal Park Web sites for reservations. There is a fee for overnight camping. These are Federal Lands, not state parks. They are dog friendly just as is the town of Mammoth Lakes. Happy Camping whether it is tent or RV, the site is near to heaven as you will get while still alive.

Beautiful. Hour rental went by quickly, bur the rental office was super casual. Wet seats and wet feet. Don't bring a camera on the kayak!

By Global367444 |

Pokonobe Marina is a totally irresponsible business that doesn’t call or email customers back - do not book here unless you have no other options and you’re in person or miraculously are able to speak to a human over the phone. Booked a pontoon boat on their website for a birthday celebration and got a cancellation notice 29 mins before our reservation time.

By 21Adventure_2015 |

Nice place my family and I enjoy paddle board, hiking and sitting by the lake having a picnic. Beautiful place.

By peter m |

Last year we hiked this on the public trail, So much snow! This year we experimented with the Nordic Skiing- Loved it!

By Mark H |

Beautiful scenery. Have been here many times during fall and winter. During these times there are very few people there which made it a relaxing place to visit.

By waynefur555 |

Call before to get a Site but good fishing and easy to get around Lake ..My Favorite by far Fishing excellent google where to fish

By Angela O |

So beautiful, this was a little unexpected treasure. We only visited there because we saw a sign and thought we would take a little drive, next time we will make this as a destination.

By Paul W |

This is a very scenic lake, beautiful surrounding mountain tops, lots of tress, and things to do. There are bike & hiking paths, I saw people riding horses, from the pack station a little ways down the road, a couple of places to eat, and of course the water action, people fishing, boating/kayaking, float tubing and paddle suffering. Wonderful place for a family camping trip. We enjoyed our time at the lake, fished in the morning and road our bikes in the late afternoons. Was a great experience for the family.

By ccarter2010 |

Went fishing for a few hours at Lake Mary. It was quiet and peaceful. Kids stacked rocks and had a great time.

By Jac-and-Jek |

All the Mammoth Lakes area is amazingly beautiful, but if I had to choose one this would be it. It is very beautiful, relaxing, you can walk and forget about the whole world here.

By tim805 |

Drove around the lake and it looked like a nice place to rent a boat. Pulled of to the side and had lunch. Nice road around the lake and beautiful scenary.

By Keith M |

Drove up to the campground, and hiked around the shore took a lot of photos and then just enjoy the scenery.

By Thomas N |

We were surprised by the size of this lake as it was higher and further up the road from twin lakes. It has a marina for renting boats and a sporting shop. It is certainly in a beautiful setting

By francesychen |

It's a beautiful lake. We rented a motor boat and rode around the lake. It was relaxing and boat was easily to be operated. My kids (age of 5 & 7) enjoyed the boat ride.

By adibrand |

The climb from the parking lot is not easy, considering the fact that this is over 9000 feet.
The road is very nice and so is the lake.
At the lake it was very windy and cold....

By Robtzu |

Drive the loop, see all the lakes in the basin at Mammoth, get out of the car, walk a little, listen to the wind blow through the pine trees, hear the waters lap the shores, not just Lake Mary, but go see all of them, they are all close by, and bring your camera!

By CoastRider |

We hiked in the snow down Lake Mary Loop Road while it was closed for ski season, awesome outdoors experience. Mountain views, the rangers patrol it for safety too.

By Joe Alejo |

it is worth the visit! really cool place to do some fishing...do some paddling around and seeing the sites..lots of places to take some really awesome photographs! it's a must visit spot if you're within the vicinity

By Mike D |

Absolutely gorgeous Lake that you can walk all around it.. as is many of the lakes on June Lake Loop they're all just gorgeous in this High Country..But during the summer months expect high pressure fishing. The lake is planted by fishing game lots of 12 to 15 inches Trout this is one of the more popular lakes in this area.. if you're planning on staying here make sure you get your reservations done early.

By Trojanphan1 |

My husband's family has been vacationing in Mammoth for years and Lake Mary is the favorite. Its so gorgeous, quiet and easy to access. You can stay in the rustic cabins at Crystal Crag Lodge or rent a boat for the day from the local store. This past trip, we caught a 5.6 lb trout while trolling. Lots of smaller trout that we released back as well.

We rented a pontoon boat for our party of 7 for an afternoon and my husband and brother-in-law used the smaller motorboats most days.

Great time in a GORGEOUS setting!

By twinlakesgal |

Because of all the snow this year all the lakes are very full. There are beautiful green bushes, trees and even some wildflowers. There are also activities available. At Lake Mary you can rent paddle boards and have a fun time.

By Chris I |

Real Beautiful lake to visit and go fishing. Camping sites are real nice and the fishing is great. Nice place to relax and take in the views.

By THA |

Very pretty with easy access from the town of Mammoth Lakes during the summer. Lake was full and not crowded at the end of May. No fish hitting...too early in the season, I think! Pokanobe Marina offers rentals of kayaks, pedal boats, SUPs.

By Greatplacesnv |

This is a great drive from the village and would highly recommend this for any trip to Mammoth Mountain. Lots of scenic lake views and campgrounds to stop by and visit

By suel13 |

We had an amazing bald eagle sighting while sitting at the side of the lake. Sat on the lake edge and watched this bald eagle fish from the lake and dodge the seagull that was taunting it.

By Brian K |

While in Mammoth Lakes a trip to Lake Mary & the Twin Lakes is a must! A beautiful waterfall flowing from the lakes above to the Twin Lakes is gorgeous. A short drive up to Lake Mary and a walk along the paved trail to the top of the falls is refreshing! Looking at the Twin Lakes from the top of the fall is absolutely amazing! It was late afternoon so when the sun peaked thru the clouds, it lit up the lakes in blues & greens. The trail is relatively flat, and wide for biking or walking about 0.5 miles each way. Lake Mary is so picturesque with an iconic peak to set the stage for a great picture. The clouds were moving thru, which made it really magical. You're kind of high....I believe around 9000 ft elevation, so a brisk walk will literally take your breath away!! We drove, but Mammoth Lakes also provides a trolley from the town to Lake Mary.

By Hottubby |

Very beautiful place to visit.real serene. Totally enjoyed the beauty and quiet of the area.would like to see it in the winter with snow glistening on it.will return! !!!

By Lindsay L |

Very pretty lake and unusual surrounding forest, killed by too much carbon dioxide, caused by an earthquake. Needs to be seen.

By Gpitt |

Visited the lake on a shuttle tour, and came back to walk the lake area. This lake is simply breathtaking with the back drop behind.

By Fencegal |

Great campsite with shallow area available for swimming in clear lake water. My dog and I had a great time swimming in the cool clear water in an area that's too shallow to fish. Plenty of fishing available on the south side of the lake. A slew of canoeing and paddleboarding enthusiasts. Clean and flushable bathrooms, and a bonus trolley bus that makes regular stops there and the village area. Lots of not only hiking trails, but a mountain biking paradise with gorgeous views. Enjoy the summer at one of the many Mammoth Lakes.

By Jessi Curl |

Renting a pontoon boat for half a day from the Pokonobe marina was the most fun possible!!! Highly recommend. Jonah and Tommy were very helpful :)

By Balakrishna R |

this lake is away from the main town center of mammoth lakes. Good to drive or bike around the lake although the road is narrow. Impressive mountain views. Nice spots where you can stop and contemplate the lake. Take insect repellant.

By CWinstin |

The place just keeps getting better. Well groomed trails, super friendly staff. We have been skiing here for 30+ years and it never gets old...

By bigtoedave |

20 plus years we have been coming to Lake Mary to camp, this year was no exception. I was surprised by the change and I didn't really like it.
This year there were groups of European tourist walking through our camp. It appears it is now overflow for Yosemite. My quiet family camping trip is anything but. However the trip was still good, fishing great, saw a bear everyday and wine by the campfire. Miss the way it was, but all things change.

By Jessica A |

Beautiful, clear water, great for spending the day at the lake or a nice drive around. Many views that are breathtaking!

By Beverly D |

We caught several fish here. There are not so many trees and bushes to get in the way of your line which is nice. Fun to watch people in the boats. Friendly ducks and chipmunks.

By rajesh_the_traveller |

beautiful lake , amazing for photography , if you like fishing trout this is place to check out.

The water is clear and background with mountains in awesome. Great place for camping too.

By MartyLima |

Visited Pokonobe Marina on Aug 30, 2024. I found the staff to be self-important and rude. There's not much here.
Avoid this business.

By Vanessa S |

Stunning vistas. The lake is a tranquil place. Many were fishing even in the blustery wind. There is camping and picnic areas as well.

By Prabir S |

The sky blue water surrounded with mountain and green bushes ....one can enjoy boating, kayaking even fishing. We the group 15 head ages 3 to 68 male female spent 3 hours and all enjoyed with some or other activities...It was a nice experience. Visit of this beautiful lake is a must in Mammoth Lakes.

By mini |

We had a very nice time at Lake Mary in Mammoth Lakes. There is a nice place to rent boats and get out on the lake. Its also a scenic lake for fishing. Picnics are also fun.
There is also a campground and some lodging around the lake.

By Richard G |

Lake Mary and some of the other lakes in the area are very cool. Take a sack lunch and hang out and watch the wildlife and people catching fish.

By PatrickLongBeach |

This lake is so beautiful in the Alpine setting with waterfalls in the background. If you want to fish, kayak, or just relax, this is a place to visit. The lakefront restaurant is also located there with great food and drinks.

By yef70 |

Passed this area where also Lake George is located when walking up to a climbing wall called Dike Wall. Pure beauty with the blue water, green pine trees and mountain tops around.

By moonlightbeachmama |

We went to Lake Mary multiple times during our stay at Mammoth, because it was just so beautiful. It was also easy to find parking around the lake and fish.

By Gail S |

Driving around the lake near sunset, we were treated to the first black bear we've ever seen in the wild. The young bear was most cooperative as it crossed the road to the lake, searching for fish for its supper. Many fishermen/women and a couple of leashed dogs kept a healthy distance away from the bear as many more of us snapped pictures. A truly memorable experience...

By mittyskitty |

Lake Mary is the nicest of the lakes on this loop and probably the most fishable as it is good for boats or has lots of shore line fishing if you dont mind scaling some rocks to get to your perfect spot. We caught a few, but got too cold to stay.

By daut59 |

Surroundings are breathtaking. Great bike and walk paths all around the lake. We've been to Mammoth several times and just discovered this area. Definitely worth seeing!

By John B |

My wife and I were married at Pokonobe Lodge on Lake Mary. It is one of the most scenic spots in Mammoth Lakes, CA with awesome mountain views surrounding the beautiful lake. I also enjoy running around the lake which is a 2.2 mile loop. We have had many fun times renting pontoon party boats with our family from either Pokonobe Marina or Lake Mary Marina.

By BoboTravlr |

We visited Lake Mary as we usually do. This lake is the most consistent for family fishing. We have never been skunked out at this lake. The marinas are very good with clean and reliable boats.

By TheMapMan123 |

A fantastic relaxing lake experience with all the toys you could ask for Canoes, Kayaks, Stand Up Paddle Boards, Party Boats, little Boats, and all the gear you'll need to get out there and More!
I took a nice week long vacation in Mammoth! I knew I wanted to spend at least one full day on a lake. That said, I found Lake Mary Marina and And boy am I glad I did!! I called in the morning to see how busy it was, I spoke to Cameron who was very friendly and helpful. I arrived a few hours later and another young man name Brayden took care of me! I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do but they were very easy to work with and basically gave me the options of using whatever I wanted to over a period of time. More than that they were very helpful and more than happy to pull me in and out of the water when I stopped back in.
Thank you very much to both of you guys for helping me have a great vacation experience up in Mammoth this year I needed it!!!!

By paris18 |

The lake is so clear and has 2 docks—one on each side of the lake. There are 2 small stores at the docks that carry mostly fishing equipment and supplies. They stock the lake with fish and according to a local it’s on Tuesday and Friday evenings. There were a lot of people kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing.

By T Y |

Lake Mary, Mamie, Twin Lakes, Horseshoe, and George lakes are all pretty. Closed during the winter. It's a beautiful place to be. In 50+ years of going up there I was shocked to see a bald eagle for the first time a few years ago. Love to fish. Horseshoe Lake is the only place to swim though. Unfortunately, ignorant people are paddleboarding and playing in some of the lakes and creeks. Other closeby lakes exist that can be hiked to. Relatively handicapped access to some parts of the lakes.

By Wdilda |

This lake offers fun kayaking and fishing. The lake is well stocked with trout, and you can enjoy bald eagles and osprey overhead. A good family spot.

By Justintime |

2 adults and 2 teenagers for an hour on Lake Mary today was great fun and the most beautiful setting.

The lake is cold and clear. The mountains make a beautiful backdrop.

By ehartlin |

You will feel a little out of place if you are doing anything other than fishing. Beautiful spot.
My daughter and son in law went out on their paddleboat. They both felt a bit uncomfortable.

By HardBop |

Main St. becomes Lake Mary Rd after you pass the village, but you enter a whole other world with spectacular, pristine lakes (including Lake Mary), towering peaks, and top-notch hikes, fishing, and camping. Get a map at the Visitors Center and explore the entire Lake Mary area--there are about 4 or 5 beautiful lakes all within the lakes area.

By Belgium12points |

Beautiful lake, with only a few people fishing, quite a relief after the crowds visiting the national parks. Great walk around the lake, and sailing in a small boar that can be rented by the hour at a very modest price

By Wilma F |

The roads throughout mammoth are not well marked and phone service goes in and out. Make sure you print your directions before you leave home because you will definitely not be able to find you way around mammoth without directions. Lots of pull over spots for pictures. Locals drive fast so be sure to pull over and let them pass.

By Phil S |

Lake Mary is a beautiful lake set up against the rocky peaks of the Eastern Sierras. There is no swimming in the lake, however, you can rent row boats, kayaks, canoes, and pontoon boats for reasonable prices. The lake is big enough to spend 2 hours on, but at the same time, an hour could be enough.

By tuna18 |

I love Lake Mary. You can rent a boat, paddle board, etc. One of my favorite things to do is to walk around the lake. There is parking all around the lake so just park and walk. The lake is very scenic and makes for some great pictures.

By Christie C |

Lake Mary is part of the Mammoth Lakes Basin situated above
8000 ft. It is gorgeous with a back drop of the incredibly high
and beautiful Eastern Sierra mountains that mirror on the lake. There are plenty of great camping spots ($21/night). The lake is stocked regularly and is a great spot for family water activites. There is a small store that offers fishing and camping supplies.

By Diana W |

Everytime we go to Mammoth Lakes we go to Lake Mary. Somtimes in May it has still been frozen. Gorgeous area. Cabins to rent right on the lake, boat rentals, fishing, hiking, camping, day picnics a great area. Lots of photo opprtunities, they back drop is gorgeous.

By Pommy Bistro |

This is the biggest lake in the mammoth as the size concerns. all water activities happen at this lake. we tried pokonobe. water is clean, you will find some people fishing in the lake early morning stay away from them is what one of them told ( warned! ) us. :P

By Betsie49 |

The lake was beautiful, parking was atrocious and it was very busy but was Labor Day weekend. It gets very cold on the lake so dress appropriately. I caught my first fish so will remember the lake for a long time. Rimmed by trees, saw an eagle, the lake is well stocked from what we heard.

By Diana W |

When visiting Mammoth Lake I highly recommend taking the tour of the Alpine Lakes. All of them are really beautiful and worth the time to see them all. Lake Mary is my favorite.

By andrew m |

It was awesome, there was snow up on the mountain, when we visited that contrasted with ice on the lake, it was cool to listen to all the noises the ice made as it shifted

By travelshooter71 |

A great place to see and relax...Nice hiking around the lake and gorgeous views...Easy parking and would definitely come back

By Carol D |

We stayed at Twin Lakes down the road, which is full of campgrounds, fishing spots, and has a waterfall. Lake Mary is larger and has more room to walk around without walking through someone's camp, lots of fishing, and larger cabins. Pretty.

By David282xyz |

Nice short hike from here to a vantage point looking back over the area. Initial access isn't too clear but look carefully at the map board

By JennyTDJ |

Along Lake Mary road you will find the Lake Mary Marina. The staff there is super knowledgable and friendly and their rental rates are very reasonable.
We rented kayaks and went paddling and fishing out on the lake.
The lake is clean, clear, and beautiful.
All of the other boaters were very respectful and it looked like plenty of fish were being reeled in (it is stocked and recently someone caught a 9lb rainbow trout).
The views from the lake were breathtaking. Such a great way to spend the morning.

By JimmyJackk |

I could stand at Lake Mary for hours. Just a postcard view. Few places as beautiful in the US if not the world. Must visit.

By U5922WCbarbaras |

This was the first place we spent time, the water was cold and refreshing. Fishing was good, and the water fall was spectacular!

By IMRox007 |

So many lakes, so little time! There are many many hiking trails that start off of Lake Mary Road. Highly recommend getting a map, know where you are going and enjoy!

By Janeen B |

The area around the lake was beautiful. Lake itself was quiet and serene. Enjoyed walking around and taking pictures. While we missed them, several friends have great bear pictures to share.

By Ginger M |

Get a great workout by running, walking, or biking with stunning vistas of the lakes, Crystal Crag, the town of Mammoth, by taking Lakes Basin Path. If you decide to hike a different trail, pay attention to the signage. Then, go exploring!

By Sabrina6276 |

Definitely one of my favorites! I've camped here many times as well and loved it! Can get a bit windy but beautiful view!!

By Ana S |

We walked A LOT to get there, but the view was awesome! The road was closed, because of the snow, but it was really worth it!

I would just recommend you to take some snacks with you, so you can stay some time and enjoy it more than I did.

By nzplgrm |

I enjoy going to Lake Mary to hike and enjoy the amazing scenic views. There are nany opportunities to hike around nearby lakes while in the area.

By John O |

What a beautiful lake! I enjoyed the views of the lake from the nearby road and then later on a rented e-bike. Don't miss this in Mammoth Lakes.

By Debbie Stobaugh |

My daughter and I rented two kayaks for 30 minutes. It was suppose to be an hour but it was pretty cold and windy some decided to end it short. We did enjoy our day on the lake.

By Liza W |

This is a great starting point for day hikes and access to the high country. If you are staying in town, the shuttle comes up here. It is a 10 minute drive for glorious scenery. Lots of camping. If it is busy, come early as the trailhead parking gets filled up.

By dsummrs |

Always love coming to Mammoth Lakes for a relaxing getaway form the bustle of SoCal. Lake Mary is picturesque and offers some wonderful trout fishing. Lots of nearby amenities and campgrounds. Easy access to shoreline and if you want..they offer boat rentals or you may bring your own and launch for a nominal fee. Depending on the time of year and local events, it can get very crowded. Check local calendar and tailor your trip to fit your vibe.

By lisapF1459DM |

Beautiful place to catch fish and watch deer roam freely and might even see a bear. Peaceful beautiful all in one place.

By USCarlos |

This is a great lake to fish for trout. It tends to get crowded though. We arrived late and really struggled to find enough space for a family of 4. If you are a solitary shore fisher, you should have no problem finding a spot somewhere around one of the biggest lakes in the area.

By Diana W |

Really beautiful lake crystal clear water. We didn't rent a boat but rather we enjoyed the view and the BLUE water. So peaceful

By Julia K |

Drive around the loop road for some beautiful scenery, we travelled towards the end of May and the weather was perfect, wear good footwear though as it can be slippy underfoot.

By Scott F |

There is a really nice bike trail that goes goes from Lake Mary to Horseshoe Lake. This same bike path goes all the way down to Twin Lakes. There is also horseback riding near Twin Lakes.
Parking is not great around Lake Mary. Need to park along the road, just stay away from driveways.

By kristinaquinones |

I have a condo in Mammoth and I have visited all of the lakes in the region. Lake Mary is a bit too crowded for me. I prefer to drive 5 more minutes to get to Horseshoe Lake where I can walk around with my dogs off leash. It is beautiful and you can rent boats, SUP boards, etc.

By Lindsey H |

If you have never been to Mammoth, I highly recommend going to see Lake Mary, even if you just go see it. If you have more time, you can fish on the banks, walk around the lake, wade in the water, or participate in any of the water activities. There are 2 marinas that rent boats (the Lake Mary Marina is closed on Sundays) with reasonable prices. We rented a double kayak for $20 for an hour from the Pokonobe Marina. We have also rented from the Lake Mary Marina with no problems. It is definitely a different experience going out on the lake. If you're lucky (or not, depending on your opinion) you may see a bear wandering the banks fishing.

By Robert T |

Not enough time to spend, but would definitely like to rent SUP next time and cruise around the lake.

By SheenC |

Beautiful setting and had a great bike ride! The lake is one of many in that area. The Lakes bike ride is a must do for all ages!

By wvillamil |

No fee to enter the lake. They rent pedal boats, kayaks, pontoon boats and skiffs. The guy at the marina was very helpful and professional. Lots of people go on the weekend. No swimming at this lake.

By garyemiller1 |

The busiest of the many lakes you can enjoy,:pontoon boat rentals, power boatsand the noise that goes with them. Also kayak and paddle board rentals and fishing from shore. But traffic may circle the lake. I prefer Lake George just above Lake Mary. Quieter and better fishing but rentals are more limited.

By Kathi H |

Even on a rainy day, this spot is beautiful. So serene. Nice place to have a picnic when the weather is nice. The drive to the lake (and surrounding lakes) is very scenic.

By MRO_13 |

My family loves visiting Lake Mary every time we visit Mammoth. The lake and surrounding area is so beautiful and peaceful. On this particular trip, my husband and kids went kayaking. It was a very fun activity for them and itt was fun for me to watch them navigate that clear calm lake from the shoreline. There are a few benches to sit on around the lake so that you can take some time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Maybe on my next visit, I'll try fishing!

By Sean N |

Beautiful and peaceful, started my tour of a few local lakes here, hit Lake George, Bennett, and Horseshoe Lake all nearby.

By John H |

Whether fishing, kayaking, running, or walking there is never a lack of activities. A lodge and campgrounds are right there within walking distance. Lots of cross country and elite .runners up here in July and August. Several trailheads close by to take you up to Mammoth Pass, Mammoth Crest, various lakes, or Duck Pass.

By Jennifer A |

Not too warm, not too breezy, but full of campers and other people working on the lake area. Unable to take the trail back to Mammoth because of the work crews. Good place for dogs to go sniffing around.

By Navigate48476617077 |

Great place to kayak! Beautiful lake and surroundings. Easy to get to via lake Mary road where you can access many of the lakes here in Mammoth

By Dalia Medellin |

My boyfriend and I were in mammoth for a day and a night. I'd been there before and I knew Lake Mary was a spot we needed to stop by at. He loved it! And we kayaked for the first time! It was great, the parking is a little small by the shop there. And if you rent anything to use at the lake they are not that helpful in helping you in and out of boats and kayaks. Boyfriend and I did it on our own for the most part. Other than that, very nice and friendly man at the register. Lake Mary is very relaxing and has beautiful views.

By Paula S |

Spent a day driving the Lake Mary Loop and it is definitely a perfect day. Waterfalls, alpine lakes, and snow topped mountains. People fishing, tubing, wading in the lakes, biking and hiking. Or you can just admire the beauty from your car and rest points. Something for everyone.

By Lisa Marie C |

Quiet place ever!!! The view was awesome. It is perfect for people who just want take some time to relax and enjoy the view.

By Robert H |

The eastern Sierras are beautiful. The area around June Lake is reminiscent of Switzerland. There are beautiful lakes, lovely drives, gorgeous views and wonderful opportunities for outdoor activities all year round.

By D Y |

Awesome lake and we saw a bear. Was the cutest thing. He was walking around the lake. We got so close. Tons of people taking pics and grabbing their kids out of the way. The bear got in a area people were fishing..took their fish and ate them. Got tons of pics..so close. Highlight of our trip! Our daughter and her boyfriend enjoyed the paddle boards.

By Taylor D |

If you go to Mammoth during the summer months you must go to Lake Mary. 10 min from town plenty of parking. Fished from the shore and fished the outlet where the dam is. Guy who was there before us caught for fish early in the morning. Me and my son had no luck but who cares with the views and quiet mountains!

Very beautiful and plenty of spots around the lake to set up chairs and fishing equipment. Also boat rentals and store for food and drinks.

By ShirleyTLV |

Beautiful, peaceful lake, very easy to reach & to travel around. On a clear day it looked just like a picture!

By SGWEST |

We only do this in winter with snow on the ground because we are always the only ones out but we love walking around the road that loops the lake. In winter the road is virtually never driven on so its just a big white trail. Peaceful and beautiful

If you want to get out on a Lake, Lake Mary has several options (to rent); motor boats, kayak, stand-up paddle boards, paddle boats, etc. We were there over the 4th of July weekend, so it was crowded. Great view of the mountains surrounding the lake.

By Ronin28 |

Quite big with great views. You can walk around or rent a boat. Pleasant and serene especially when it is off season. Lots of foliage in fall.

By Bobbi1234 |

This is a lovely spot. Easy to canoe or kayak, swim or just look around and enjoy the scenery (and , take many photos).

By CURTISS222 |

Lake Mary is one of a series of small mountain lakes just above Old Mammoth and Mammoth Lakes. The water was clear and the scenery was stellar! This was our first visit above the town of Mammoth Lakes and we plan to return simply to further explore the grand beauty of this area.

By yeguerrero |

A beautiful alpine lake nestle in Mammoth Lakes Basin. It is the largest in the basin with boat rentals, tackle shop and restaurant available. Bathroom available. You can drive around the whole lake!
Lake-side parking with campsites and picnic area. Cabin rental available. Watch out for the bears, don't leave food out. Popular bear habitat! Great hiking area with several trailheads are accessable. Sunday morning service in the summer as well as concert at
Pokanobe Lodge.

One afternoon we walked to Lake Mary. It is a beautiful 1.5 mile walk along a groomed road that is shared by cross country skiiers. It is a constant gentle grade, so no special hiking skills needed!

By C W |

It was a gorgeous blue skies day to hike in the snow along Lake Mary road while the cross country skiers skied on the groomed Tamarack cross country trails. We sat at the picnic table for the view of Crystal Crgs across the frozen lake.

By ckinne11 |

We rented a pontoon boat, did a little fishing and just plain enjoyed the day. We had 9 aboard. There was a cover for shade and the guys at the dock were very helpful. The mountain views are amazing! The water is very cold, so only one brave guy went in.

By Eugene N |

Beautiful lake, fishing( it was very poor this year), rental boats, kayak, camping. Lake George, Maime, twin lakes and horseshoe.

By Yuki F |

Lake Mary is one of the larger Mammoth Lake's lake. Trout fishing is popular here. The scenery is fantastic and the campground is nice.

By KellyM |

If you like spectacular views of the mountains, forests and crystal clears lakes come up and stay at Lake Mary (located in Mammoth lakes, Ca.) Oh yeah the fishing is great!

By garycA7761AN |

Proximity to Lake Mary from the Tamarack Lodge is both walkable or reachable on the trolley with the bike trailer.

By WillMarks |

Driving around Mammoth Lakes there's some great lakes all in close proximity. Lake Mary has fantastic views across the area! Not one to miss!

By Cesar O |

Great views and had a great a peaceful time. Enjoyed greatly with the family by renting a boat to go around.

By Michelle G |

This is a beautiful lake. There is a loop drive that will take you completely around the lake. It is worth the drive. The lake has a lot to offer. Pure beauty in the tranquility of the lake, surrounding pine trees, and at one end the bleached white stumps sticking out of the water. You can rent a boat, go fishing, kayak out on the lake, or just jump in for a refreshing swim. You can't lose when visiting Lake Mary!

By hadikranian |

If you like to drive around the lake and look at gorgeous scenery, this is a perfect loop to drive. There are turn outs along the way to stop and take pictures. During fall time I imagine it is very colorful.

Lake Mary holds a special place in my heart. Many of you may feel the same way.
If it’s your first visit, the spirit and vibe of Lake Mary may overwhelm you! It’s that beautiful. The legacy of the homestead and visitors go back over 100 years.
If you drive around the lake you will see many Little houses nestled in the mountains. Those have been there for generations!!
If you want the real experience - rent a house and feel the awesome back to nature living our past relatives once had.
I often get stories of my mother’s family experience with her parents and great fun fishing adventures. So, we do the same.

You can hike, rent horses and ride around the lake with a guide, rent a boat and go out to enjoy the view and catch that monster trout just waiting for you!! Or, just fish from the shore. It’s a large lake plenty of room for all.
A few things to know...lots of mosquitos in the spring through summer. Fish bite early am or late afternoon and parking can get tricky as most areas around the lake don’t have enough space between the road and lakeshore. So find your fishing place, find a frog in the marshes or just take in the scenery - have fun and make some memories!!!

We have stayed at Lake Mary at Crystal Crag Lodge for many years. There is a paved road that circles the lake which is great for walking and bicycle riding. There is always fishing and you can even rent paddle boards. What is also great, there are very few bugs.

By AneGC |

The Mammoth Lakes area has got a few of lovely lakes, and Lake Mary is one of the most beautiful.
I recommend sitting close to it and relaxing for a while in this peaceful place.

By loric386 |

It was very windy the day we went, so not sure if my review is accurate. It was very pretty and looked like a lot of fisherman may go to.

By Audrey W |

Once again we rented a pontoon boat for a two hour “cruise” of Lake Mary. The fact that the day was ideal contributed to the joy of the picnic. The staff was responsive and helpful, the boat clean and in good condition.

By mbernal |

All the trip around this and other lakes is worthwhile. Water too cold for a swim. Parking facilities

By dil345 |

We stopped here on a day when the temperature was 34 and wind blowing about 20 mph. A couple of people fishing said they were catching a lot. It would be nice to visit again when the weather is decent.

By Charet G |

This is very easy to reach with the car, and no need to wear your hiking shoes for it's just near the parking lot. This place has a boat rental or you can also bring your boat and go fishing. Or just bring a chair and fishing gear to sit on the side of the lake. Lots of trout according to the locals.

By plam_usa |

the view was worth for a walk. The road was block in winter. We hike about 45-60 mins to the lake and it was beautiful view. The lake was freeze and we make snow angel. We borrow snow shoe from store on Main street and finally we can use it walking on the lake. The trail was quiet occasional few people walk by. good time to visit in the afternoon before sunset. It got very cold once the sun starts going down. Bring water and snack you need boot energy before you walk back to your car.

By Nort__10 |

Wonderful views! Well maintained, paved trails, engineered for those in wheelchairs. We visited in early June when there just a few other walkers.

By Brad Martens |

Went for an early morning drive here in August and we were not disappointed. Beautiful views from every side of the lake. Such a peaceful place to be and would be a perfect camping spot. Wish we could have stayed longer.

By SR0422 |

The views at this lake are so beautiful. It is very peaceful and quiet out there. A little far from town but you can fish, kayak, hike, bike ride, etc.

By Krista N |

Went when it was totally frozen over and still was breathtaking! Can't wait to stay and hike around here.

By Sarah T |

Beautiful over Memorial Weekend. Some great hikes and climbs over by the lake and it looked like people were having a blast fishing as well.

By Dean S |

9000 feet means cool to cold. This summer 2016 has construction noise. walk around the lakes, find a place to sit and read or just hang out. others will discuss fishing.

By Cathy H |

Most years I stay at Twin Lakes just below Mary, but last time we ended up at Mary. What a great place. Much less crowded or commercialized that Twin and off the beaten path. Lake was just a short walk. Fishing great too. Will go back this summer and try for Mary again for certain.

By Mom808 |

We had a great time fishing at Lake Mary. The lake had recently been stocked and we had learned from Rick (at Rick’s tackle shop “Hope It Floats”) that the lakes are stocked now with larger Alpers. We each caught several fish 2.5-3 lbs. and one over 6 lbs.! (See below about cleaning your fish.)

People fishing are genuinely friendly and respectful, but we did run into an older couple who took over an entire area and spread out so others couldn’t fish. We squeezed in and stayed out of their way. They left after a few hours and a large family replaced them with little kids (8, 5 & 1 year olds). We understand it’s their vacation, too, but the kids were running around, screaming, throwing rocks into the lake. FINALLY, the dad told the the 5 year old to stop throwing rocks. The family was very nice, but our relaxing fishing time turned chaotic and definitely not quiet and peaceful.

Just a note to everyone fishing at Mammoth Lakes...have fun and an enjoyable fishing trip. But please be respectful of other people fishing for it’s their vacation, too. 🎣 Fish On! 😀

TIP: There no longer are cleaning stations at either Lake Mary stores (they only have a scale to weigh your fish), so you have to go to the store at Twin Lakes. You pay $1 to use the fish cleaning table and water, and they’ll give you 1 plastic bag for your fish guts to throw out. We had 3 large fish so we paid $3. Be sure to clean up the area well and dump your trash bag in the dumpsters down by the boats. Bears have been present and going after the fresh fish.

Also, up at Rock Creek Resort Store, they’ll freeze and store your gutted and cleaned fish for $.25 each.

We used to camp near Lake Mary and I've always loved it. It's off the beaten track, near Tamarack Lodge. Lovely spot for boating, hiking, horseback riding.

By JillMather |

Friends and I hiked through Lake Mary area last summer... beautiful day and great lake. We also just snow shoed up to Lake Mary on our last trip - looks different in the winter - walked on it... it was frozen solid and magnificent. A must see in Mammoth.

By Ivy M |

Lake Mary (and the other lakes around Mammoth Lakes) are truly beautiful. I visited after a trip to Death Valley and it was a welcome breath of fresh cool air. The scenery is amazing and I recommend walking around the lakes to take it all in.

By Joseph M |

Stayed at the campground site 37. close to toilets and water faucet. Bike paths take you to other lakes, town and other campsites Friendly camp hosts.

By dgdssdish d |

Nice sierra lake with trails around it. You can rent a boat to go fish or just relax on the water and enjoy the scenery.

By roberthO9476SE |

Cabin rentals are the way to go. Pontoon boating on the lake is reasonable. Fresh air and great times. Lots of bears and deer up here at 9,000 ft altitude

By AtTheBeachVentura |

Rented a kayak twice at Pokonobe resort. Would recommend booking in advance. The lake is beautiful with spectacular mountain views.

By Angel L |

After hiking the Twin Falls area I came up to Lake Mary for a respite. The boys were all cycling and I enjoyed the sights and sounds of the tranquil Lake Mary.

By McWett |

We visited during the week and while parking was pretty full around the lake we did find spots open along Lake Mary Road. Beautiful vistas and peaceful places to sit and read. Lots of hiking trails.

The road around the lake is a bit narrow but most drivers are careful. We had our headlights on just to give us an extra measure of safety.

By LaCostaKeith |

I was up here in the fall and the trees had turned yellow and orange. I will be back next summer for hiking and fishing.

By Jananah |

We rented a boat, took our picnic lunch and cruised around the lake for a few hours. It is lovely and so serene. The day was a little windy; but that added to the fun! I would definitely recommend checking it out and maybe renting a boat.

By Bruce D |

I went to Lake Mary to fish and hike. It was very beautiful, except for the overbearing presence of the over-regulated campground and marina. There attempts to block access and control everything, so they could get money out of everybody up there who juste wants to fish, hike, find some peace, and be left alone, degrades the whole experience. It's public land. Greedy profiteers need to stop treating it like they own it.

By BoboTravlr |

Lake Mary is always our go to fishing spot in Mammoth. The lake is large, beautifully situated under Mammoth Crest and Crystal Crag and is served by two well equipped marinas. From pontoon boats to stand up paddle boards they have it all. The prices are a bit better at the Lake Mary Marina vs Pokonobe. Lake Mary Marina is closed on sundays so on that day you will have to use Pokonobe. Both have motorboats that are in great working condition and staff who are knowledgeable and helpful. Fishing from the shore is also good with many actress points around the lake.

By zara_h011 |

I could have sat by this lake all day. Such a beautiful part of the world. Great to think about things and enjoy nature with the loved ones!

By araxas |

One of the many beautiful lakes in the Mammoth Lakes area. Lots of picnic areas, and just a great place to take in the scenery and enjoy.

By Sightsee46541003727 |

Lake Mary is a beautiful serene area with the majestic views of the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains surrounding it. The Pokonobe Marina has very friendly and helpful staff. We had a fun time using the pedal boat and left with great memories.

By jpanaligan |

Affordable boat rental, beautiful lake and weather free parking and great scenery for picture taking.

By ARLVAGUY |

I do recommend a drive around the lake(s), especially on the far side to see the falls and the views from the top. Every lake has terrific views of the snow-capped mountains. None of this is too far from the center of town, either.

By Pam |

It's a great place to bring a chair, sit and relax. While in the area, definitely check out Lake George.

By Kent-Jackie |

A great time had on the lake for only $25 per hour. One of my favourite views of the mountains.
Very quiet too, at this time of year.

By webbfoot |

Was here on 06-24-17, still lots of snow on the ground. We drove the loop road around the lake a very beautiful lake. There are several other beautiful lakes in this area, surrounded by snow covered mountains. There is also a large waterfall in this area.

By CarlVeniceBeach |

We hiked up to the Crystal lake. great views along the hike. Take alot of water. still some snow even in July...

By khantalal |

Very nice. Went there last summer with family as we were staying a Mammoth Lakes. Nice loop around the lake. Fishing, boating, trekking opportunities abound the lake!!!

By nancypants911 |

We have been going here for 35 years. It is about one mile around the lake. There are two stores located at opposite ends of the lake. Picnic areas, and campsites require early reservations through ReserveAmerica.com. Boat rentals, food, and showers available at stores.

By Brian R |

Drive down the road to look at all of the lakes on this road. A very pleasant drive. Stop and look at the other lakes while you are there.

By Kathleen U |

Loved this area! did a few hikes in the area, rode bikes around and down to the town, and rented paddle boards and kayaks. The lake is beautiful, with campsites and cabins, and a reasonable amount of people enjoying the great summer weather. I didn't feel like it was overcrowded, but some of the camping areas seemed a little tight. There were two options on Lake Mary for rentals and I think a restaurant. Really beautiful area and we will come back.

By judyegan |

You can cross country ski around lake Mary in the winter. You can also walk around it but not on the groomed parts which is tricky if has a lot of snow. You can boat on it in the winter. It's is majestic from the middle of the lake. People fish from the shoreline. Can't comment on that

By Furrgus |

This sub alpine lake is lovely in every way. We hiked around the perimeter, enjoying the trees, water and sunlight after a light snowfall.

By olddaddydude |

It is a small lake perfect for kayaks and fishing. Cold water, but very clear. Nice store and launch that wasnt too mover priced. A lovely spot.
