..GOspent a fascinating 3 hours in this enormous museum full of fascinating cars that tell the story of how cars have shaped and been shaped by our history. Beautifully displayed. Interesting text. Cute little cafe. Lots of places to sit and take a rest while watching a film or video. Such variety..GO!

Even if your not a big car buff, this place is great. Beautiful layout, nice café, and a terrific collection of old vehicles. The revolving display on the main floor is always interesting--currently it's several terrific Ferraris and other high-end sportscars.

We have been to car museums all over the world and this museum did not disappoint. Four levels of all types of cars. Excellent displays and descriptions. We paid a little extra for a 1.5 hour tour that was worthwhile. Skip the restaurant - basic fare that was overpriced. But don't miss the gift shop - lots of great items reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Worth the drive from Seattle.

impressive collection of cars of all types, and even a Honda motorcycle collection. Kind of expensive if you ask me, but it is what it is.

We flew to the area just to see the Reclaimed Rust exhibit from creator/ musician James Hetfield and it was awesome!
I'm a Metallica fan and when I heard about James making these works of art on wheels, I knew I had to see them. I didn't really want to go to LA where the exhibit was first displayed but then I saw that it had gone to WA and I knew somehow, I would get there. It ends is January, so get there soon!
We went for reclaimed rust, but we stayed all day for the rest of the museum. The building itself is amazing let alone all the amazing vehicles. I know i keep saying amazing but that is the best word!
Even the cafe has good eats. We loved the Italian sodas and all the flavor choices.
The staff are all passionate about the place and love to talk about any of the vehicles. I took loads of pictures but am not displaying them, so you have to go and see in person!!
You will want to see it if you love cars at all!

We very much enjoyed our ramblings through this well-laid out museum. The array of cars is impressive and it is ever-changing.

The LeMay is exactly what it says: "America's Car Museum". The amazing feature of the cars is their SHOWROOM CONDITION, or even better. I am told the exhibits change, and what is at the Tacoma location is only part of a rotating collection of beautiful American vehicles.

The LeMay is a worthwhile stop for car enthusiasts, though it doesn't quite reach the top tier of automotive collections I've visited. The building itself is striking, and many vehicles are attractively displayed. However, the bulk of the exhibits reflect the founder’s personal preferences, leading to multiple examples of models that arguably warrant only one—and glaring absences of historically significant cars that evidently didn’t capture his interest.
Signage is excellent when present, but much of it relies on electronic screens, several of which were frustratingly out of order during my visit. Traffic flow through the museum is initially disorienting, and I found myself retracing aisles before getting my bearings. The ramps at either end of the building house compelling supplementary content, yet their layout is counterintuitive—visitors move right to left, while the wall text reads left to right. To follow the narrative coherently, you must walk to the far end and double back before continuing onward.
Vehicle arrangement feels inconsistent, too. A cohesive 1950s domestic trio—Ford, Chevy, Chrysler—can abruptly give way to a lone Model T, without apparent rhyme or reason.
Despite these quirks, there's enough substance here to merit a visit for car aficionados. It’s a solid second-tier museum—arguably one of the best in that bracket—but not quite in the league of the most thoughtfully curated collections.

There are hundreds of cars of all eras and styles. An amazing collection.
Wear comfortable shoes its large and the floors are concrete.

We showed up at the opening time of 10am on Black Friday and had a great time touring the museum. I have been around vintage cars all my life and still learned a ton about the people and family's that shaped the evolution of automobiles. From a Hupmobile to the Flintstone's Movie car they have an amazing collection. I highly recommend it.

My wife, sister & her boyfriend, & my cousin toured the LeMay Car Museum on our last day in Washington. The car were unbelievably gorgeous. 4 levels of old and not so old cars. I must to see if in Tacoma.

You'll find something new to see every time you visit. The museum collection is mostly American cars of all ages but recent visitors got to see exotics from Ferrari, McLaren, De Tomeso, Lamborgini, Aston Martin and many more.

I can't say enought good things about the LeMay Car museum. Awesome location with great views. The collection of cars is quite impressive and each has a bit of history described. The short movie on how Mr. LeMay collected all his cars is worth the time to watch.

Such a large museum; clean; spacious..nicely organized and easy to walk...quiet as well; they had a nice cafe; a limited but interesting gift shop too..
we spent a good 4 hours there; and it only seemed like 2 or so...that's how interesting this is....my only thing with it; I didn't care much for the Japanese car exhibit on the top floor; but I still studied carefully each of those vehicles; just the "foo foo" decorations around that exhibit were not needed in my opinion....one of the very best car museums I have ever visited; and believe me, this was at least our tenth....

We had a group of ten guys, all over 50, that decided to check out the muscle car exhibit. It was awesome! All the other displays were great as well. We tried the virtual racing machines and had a blast. Gift shop was very unique. Great time.

The building alone is awesome, but the vehicles will make your eyes water (if you're a car guy, or gal)

I was in Tacoma Washington to see my son who was getting ready to be deployed. I had an awesome time with my son as we looked at the antique cars and reminisced about old times

Amazing collection of cars. All types, all eras. You will need to set aside about 3 hours if you want to walk through at a leisurely pace and enjoy reading about the individual vehicles. Well spent money to view this collection.

Wow! What a great time! My husband and I took my parents, and we were so thrilled with the experience! Great time, it’s like a walk down history lane. So much more than a museum! It’s definitely worth a trip. So cool.

Super museum with volunteers who are adorable... the cars are donations from rich collectors... we feasted! To do absolutely...

What a great time! This place is an ever changing experience as this place doesn’t hold half of Lemays collection and even more cars that are just on loan. To start the building is just as impressive as the cars and you get a taste of it just looking at it from the freeway. What you don’t see is this is a 4 story parking garage that goes in under ground spiraling. What i thought I would see a lot of (muscle cars), I/we didn’t see that much of them really we saw many many types shapes and sizes that more portrays the advancement of technology dating back to the late 1800’s up to today. They have interactive parts, knowledge stations to test you, a souvenir stand and a restaurant. I really enjoyed myself seeing the cars but just also listening to my dad remember his youth with items you could see.. i will remember this experience probly to the day I pass.

Having visited dozens of car museums in Europe as well as the U.S., I can say that this is one of the better ones. Not the best mind you, but far better than most. Their gift shop is also better than most, with more adult- oriented auto gifts than most. Plan to append at least 2 hours or more. The cafe was disappointing, but I can overlook that. This is not intended to be a restaurant review.

What a collection. More early versions of the automobile and not a lot of 60-70s muscle cars.
Very nice collection of 60-70 Honda motorcycles, the bmw exhibit was impressive.

Some of the cars were truly amazing.. all in perfect condition. What a great place. From the ice cream scooter to futuristic solar powered vehicles this museum will not disappoint. Relive your life through automobiles! Fun! The craftsmenship of the cars from the past is amazing. You can do this museum in two to three hours. So much to see!

This is a great car museum, well laid out so you can see them all, and ever-changing. You never know what is going to be on display. But very likely you can find the car you or your Dad drove in the fifties or earlier. It's an extensove collection and well worth the visit.

The LeMay is a must-see if visiting Tacoma. First, it's easy to get to with expansive parking. And it starts off with interesting historical pieces right in the lobby.
Once inside, the museum is unbelievably spacious. You will be blown away by how many cars and motorcycles are in the space. Cars are grouped by interest: modern sports cars, British cars, electric autos, 80's cars, race cars as well as a historical timeline of the automobile. On top of that, there are multiple floors jam packed with every kind of car imaginable. You could go back multiple times and still see something new.
The spaciousness is great because you don't feel like you are stuck behind or with other visitors and there's a nice cafe' for taking a lunch break or grabbing a coffee. The cafe' has a full menu, not just snacks.
Lastly, the staff is really great and love to talk about the cars. On one of the lower floors they will take your photo in an old convertible and give you two prints and email you a copy FOR FREE! We thought it was a trap for more $$, but it wasn't. And the men taking the photo were very interesting.
Great for people of all ages!

My husband is a big car guy so when I found the car museum I knew I had to take him there. He was like a kid in a candy store and took over 100 pictures of the cars. It was adorable to see him so excited.

We visited the museum on our recent trip to WA. This was not part of original plans but we found a flier on the museum and decided to check it out. SO glad we did. The place is huge! Over 300 cars. We took the docent led tour (one tour a day at 11:00). We thought the tour was just going to be an overview. The guide spent over 3 hours with us. He went as long as we wanted and was a wealth of knowledge about the cars in the museum. I am not really a fan of museums ( I get bored) and we were there over 4 hours, which is a record for me. I love old cars and the cars are beautifully restored. They have some cars that are permanent and then rotating exhibits of cars that people lend to the museum. The levels are via ramps and it is very easy to walk through and not get lost. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip. We did not eat there but they have a restaurant overlooking the cars.

Loved seeing all the different cars. I especially enjoyed the driving simulator. My only regret is not trying all three simiulators.

What an awesome collection of cars, set out in a wonderful building with helpful staff. We were fortunate enough to visit on a day when they were doing rides. Very cool.

great venue, very unique, easy walking and viewing. Best collection in the world. The coachwork on cars from the 20's was amazing

Name is confusing. This is not the much larger LeMay Family Museum. Skip this and go to family museum . Many mistakes found in documentation. This might be worth it and you have kids. Save time and money and go to the larger family museum of the same name.

The LeMay Car Museum is awesome. From the the first awe inspiring architecture & curve of the ceiling to the exposed beam construction..... then there's the cars!! Beautiful collection of fast & furious motor sport Lamborghini's to Aston Martin beauties.
Hit the lower floor to play on the simulators of several courses from Mid-Ohio to Laguna Seca.

Let me start by saying WOW!
This is an immaculate collection of cars, trucks, motorcycles and automotive displays. Muscle, electric, pre-war, modern, family, foreign, luxury, trucks, even an army jeep. Something for everyone. My favorite; 1916 Pierce Arrow.
4 levels in the museum. Ample parking ($5.00). The staff was very friendly.
If in the SeaTac area, take some time and visit this museum.

I have been to this museum several times both with my wife and with a Truck club I belong to. They are always changing out the collection so you can see different cars each time. They can also accommodate groups and cater in a meal if you have a group of car buffs. This museum takes you way back in time with stories about many of the cars on display.

We enjoyed an afternoon event here and then toured the museum, which showcases so many beautifully restored cars, it's a little overwhelming. My husband and I aren't really big car enthusiasts but we liked it. The panoramic view of Tacoma from the back of the museum is spectacular! Fortunately, our event sponsor paid our admission fees which is $18 for one adult. To me that seems too expensive.

My sons loved this place. The view from this location to the city is wonderful! Only thing they didn't like that 2 people jumped in the simulator before them although they have been waiting there politely for 20 minutes. A waiting list with a name could help on that problem.

Wow, I'm not a car person and I even enjoyed it! We went for the Corvette collection but the whole thing - all four floors were fascinating and full of history. I'm so glad my partner dragged me there...It was better than the Glass Museum, honestly.

The collection of cars represent a large number of eras and types - both foreign and domestic. The museum covers four floors and is laid out in a linear fashion.so you can see all of their cars. The Lemay collection, however, is packed handle to handle which makes it difficult to see the profiles of the cars. The story of the Lemay collection is fascinating and the museum shows just a small portion of it. Staff are very knowleable about cars and the exhibits. I agree that the sloped walkways are not disabled friendly.

Went with my son, we other loved the collection of cars. The information on the different eras of vehicles was great. Had a great time. Definitely a must see.

Always enjoy visiting here, world class facility with rotating exhibits so you never get bored. Great gift shop and cafe

This is a fantastic automotive museum with great docents and an amazing inventory of vehicles to look at. Also, a nice shop to visit either on your way in or out of the Museum. We held our car club's board meeting at this museum in their board room and they were gracious hosts!

They call themselves America's Car Museum and it is hard to argue with that when you look at the scope of the collection.
Parking is close and (at least when I went) plentiful. Given the size and the amount of time you could spend there, the admission cost is justified. It truly is a world class collection so if you are only paying for yourself, it's worth it.
There are four levels to the Museum and lots of ramps so stairs aren't really an issue. Think of a big parking garage. That's essentially what you have here. Literally. The main levels have each car parked backed in with seemingly little rhyme or reason. The side ramps have actual themes (Route 66, NASCAR, British cars, etc.) but the main floors have very little reasoning as to why cars are placed as they are. It's not chronological, nor by brand. In this sense, it kind of forces you to see the entire collection.
Critically, the way the cars are displayed are a problem to me. For some of them, the back end tells a story just like the front end does. I get that logistically you can get more cars on display but if cars aren't your thing, I can see the collection start to run together.
The other thing (I heard and didn't necessarily agree with) that created an issue is that because the collection is so huge, people can get mad when their favorite car or year isn't on the floor. Given the fact that it is a private collection, give this place a break. The fact that they have as many cars on display that they do and the fact that you are able to see them all in an afternoon should be good enough.
I didn't try the food nor the hands-on activities (I had a 5 month old) but they are there. There are a few small theaters around if you need to get off your feet for a minute. Some of the areas have rather large TV screens that act as the information cards which I thought was pretty neat.
Overall, if you are a car person, this is a can't miss Museum. The total number of cars I feel like is somewhere around 300! While they aren't arranged by brand or chronology (at least not comprehensively), that is what makes it kind of fun. Walk a few feet and who knows what you will see.

Great museum with lot's of different exhibits on the car industry. I like the exhibits on NASCAR and Route 66 the best. I was there for 3 hours but you could stay longer if your looked at everything close. Make sure you keep your map because the exhibits on the ramps are easy to miss if not paying attention. You can buy tickets for both LeMay Museums here too and save a couple of bucks.

Wish we had more time. This place is like a Tardis, massive inside and full of excellent cars and information. Really didn't expect this gem.

There was a time when cars were great and rolling works of art. You can relive it at this museum. Take your time and enjoy as you experience, at least in your mind, what a trip down the highway used to be like.

Great selection of mainly American Cars, including the original Bullitt Mustang. 3 floors jammed with cars so allow 2 to 3 hours. A good coffee shop. Interesting architecture.
Docent tour wasn't worth the extra charge: just saw the inside of 2 cars from a distance and not much extra information.

We had ample parking and just a short walk to the LeMay Car Museum for our 2018 Holiday Party. This was my first visit here and I wish I had more time to see all the cars. I did not know what to expect upon entering, but it was spacious and well organized. The car museum was open for a short time before we started our festivities. Wish I had arrived earlier to give me more time to explore. It was a very nice venue for our event, lots of seating and open space to keep everyone feeling comfortable. The area was clean and well maintained throughout the night. What a fun time it was! Looking forward to returning next year! Fingers crossed.

This is a fun place to go if you have any interest in cars or history. The exhibits are beautifully laid out and informative.

As a wife of a "car guy" I have been to a lot of car museums. This is by far the best! Educational, interactive, well displayed and an unparalleled exhibit. Do not miss!

Well designed museum. After paying the entry fee you walk through the gift shop to the exhibits. The museum is designed like a parking garage with ramps. While going up the main ramp, view vehicles on both sides. At the top take a picture of Tacoma and then turn right down the ramp. Follow the arrows on the floor and you will end up on the lower level. There are four levels. Then follow the arrows back up the ramps to the top level and exit through the gift shop. Because of the way the museum is designed, you can not miss any of the exhibits if you just stay to the right going through the levels.
There were numerous vehicles to see and docents were available to answer questions. You also get a free picture of yourself and party in an old car. There are also additional activities for the kids and movies to view.

I work for a facility in Buckley Washington ( Rainier School ) we have many clients that are car enthusiast, so we planned a trip to bring a group of client to see your cars. So this is not an easy task because most of our client are in wheelchairs and walkers. So when we get there the excitement of the clients was over whelming, they could not wait to see some car they could relate to as a child, well when we got to the door to pay we got turned away because they wanted us to pay full price for each caregiver that the client had with them, these are client that cannot function without a caregiver. I was more that put off and just appalled that this place of business would be so heatless and cold to people that need the most help in our community, these are your daughters , sons, uncles , aunts. Most businesses would never and do not charge caregivers for people with disabilities.

Great afternoon walk around look at the old memories of cars. And we're not even car enthusiast. Nice afternoon though brought back old memories cuz we're both old.

Lots of cars to look at. Spent almost 2 hours with a couple of pre teen boys. Had a good time. Very interesting displays.

This is a well done car museum with a lot to look at. Several levels of beautiful cars. There is also a cafe on site.

Allow plenty of time 4 huge floors full. Really too much to take in in one visit beautiful facility. I would go back and I am not a car person. We went for my husband's birthday and I expected to be bored but I was pleasantly surprised to find it very enjoyable

We had a company event there and it was an excellent evening. There are several floors of cars and its beautiful inside.

I preface this by the fact that I am not a motorhead and have only a passing interest in old car, but my god I was impressed by this museum. The collection and special exhibits were amazing. The set up give you an easy path to walk and not miss anything. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. I drove by the museum every day for the 14 weeks I worked in the Tacoma area and am so glad I decided to stop. This is a national treasure and should be included in any visit to Tacoma.

This place is great! If you love classic cars it's a must see. They have multiple levels and tons of amazing cars. And they change things around so its not the same cars at all times

Easy access off of Interstate 5 to a very fine car museum with a variety of vehicles and rotating shows of different lines of motor vehicles. Good place for lunch too.

My husband and I have seen more than 21 car museums through out the United States. The LeMay Museum is definitely in the top three. There are 4 levels of cars, a hugh collection. They also have changing exhibits which is an added reason to come back for many visits. The films are worth watching, particularly the one on the history of the museum and the family that donated the cars. There is also a cafe on the top floor that has a nice variety for all tastes. Glad we stopped here.

Tons of cars here. Probably about 90% are American though. I’m not personally a fan of American cars, but if you are then you’ll love it.

I love viewing their ever changing display of cars. Having a yearly membership has it's benefits for sure. They rotate some exhibits but I love their monthly "IF CARS COULD TALK program offered the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The Museum has a cafe too which has good food too. Plus some hands on displays which interests the grandkids. Length of visit depends on your love of cars, motocycles, and if you want to read, watch films or be interactive. They rent rooms for banquets, meetings and more. Price levels for youth, teens, seniors, Military, Adults and Members are Free. My membership is good for two people all year long and we can bring guests too.

The museum is an easy place to walk through. The cars on display are fun to look at and everyone is sure to see something new or that brings back a memory. It was a fun afternoon and a great place to just walk around alone or bring the family.
The staff are available to ask questions to and there are fun games in one of the areas for kids to enjoy (and adults). It is easy to get to and lots of parking available. Close to restaurants for having a meal afterwards.

If you like cars this is the place to go, nice collection of older classic vehicles. Different activities for kids as well which is nice to have the whole family involved.

If you love cars, this is a destination which must be seen.
They have levels of every car imaginable. For a small fee, you can experience a 4D nascar race experience. Apart from cars, there’s also a restaurant & a vintage photo op too.

We had a great time looking at all the different type of cars from new to old. Looking forward to visiting again

Found out more about the history of cars than I ever knew. Grew up with a '57 Chevy, and they had one just like it, except aqua instead of green.

This museum is an amazing place for car lovers to visit while in the city You will see vintage cars classic cars and new updated cars staff is friendly if you have State Farm insurance you receive a discount to enter picture taking is allowed in the museum

Went to both exhibits, Tacoma & Spanaway. Docent was super @ Spanaway - cool buildings, lots of parking. Especially great for us Boomers & car buffs.
Visited the Tacoma one recently.

This museum is set up beautifully to guide the visitor through. There is a fun slot car opportunity, in vehicle photo ops, and a race car simulator. The most fun is to bring along your favorite classic car enthusiast who can share memories and details not in the informative placards.

Family destination. Our family loves cars, so when the Alaska contingent came to Tacoma for visit LeMay’s was a must. The grandpa’s reminisced about their old cars and the two toddlers loved the motorcycles. This wasn’t our first visit and certainly won’t be the last,

The museum has its own parking lot which requires a fee. You may pay at the machine or in the museum (either way, make sure you know your space number). As large as the museum looks on the outside, it is much larger inside because there are 5 levels--4 of which are museum. There is a vast number of cars and other memorabilia. When you start your viewing, once you go down the ramp from the main level, look at the displays on the ramp and, when you reach the next level only look at the exhibits on one side. When you hit the bottom level and start going up the opposite ramp, do the same and concentrate on the other side in the middle section. That way, you won't be just walking through the central section on your way up. The museum has a restaurant and a large gift shop.

The curators did a very good job separating the automobiles in to special categories and making the displays interesting and informative. There are so many cars here that it could have been confusing but it is not. They have very nice "additional" displays too, for example the advent of gasoline use, and the early "gas stations", the auto part store front . Very quality museum and worth a stop while in Tacoma or just a destination on it's own.

These are immaculate cars in neat rows, some pretty rare. It's great for a family, but it is a fair stroll.

Cost is reasonable and the time slips by without even noticing. We spent 3 hours wandering around the museum. There are so many cars , all beautifully displayed in an easy to follow route through the museum. There is even one vintage car where you can sit in and have a photo taken. The picture is free, with no strings attached. Can be printed or emailed. If anyone in your group wants to sample driving, one floor had demo video simulation drives where you can drive race courses around the world. If you are interested, get the package deal when you first enter which includes a drive, as it is quite a bit more costly as an add on when you reach that floor. Younger kids might have fun playing the slot cars. This is one of the largest and nicest car museum we have been to.

Got there just before opening on Saturday at 10AM. We waited a couple minutes and went inside.
One senior, one adult and grand BB was $39. Seemed at tad high.
Four floors from ground level down.
Exotic, high priced sports cars and iconic ones one first level. Porsche, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Detomasa Mongosta, etc on first floor.
Floors below had the run of just about every vehicle you've heard of and several you haven't.
Vehicles from different eras and modes of power.
This is a several hour self tour and a must do for car historians.
And by the way, it's not high priced when you put in the equation the inventory.
A must do for auto fanatics.

Took the short walk from the Tacoma Transit Center. The admission process was pleasant and easy. I arrived near lunch so went up to the mezzanine for lunch. Had a most delicious Cuban sandwich which was served with string fries pipping hot. The view out the fully glassed end of the building was worth half the price of admission as I sat watching a pair of young boys looking excitedly at all the race cars on display below us. The main floor had an array of high performance cars. There are three levels arranged with descending ramps on each side to allow easy viewing. There were cars from the earliest days of the automobile to current models. Though I often try to photograph all the cars when I visit auto museums, this one had more than I could do so. There was a great slot car track for the kids and a simulator that would appeal to teenagers. Since it was the Christmas season, Santa pictures were also available. Even if you are slightly interested in cars this is interesting. If you have a lifelong interest this is a must see.

If you are a car buff, this is definitely the place for you! Broad range of new cars to older, vintage vehicles. I will say that it would have been nice to see more "muscle" cars but, overall, the experience was very positive.

what a bonus.four floors of antique, muscle, race, trucks and motorcycles. my dad rode Harley since turning 16 in 1929. the motorcycles exhibit as you enter is fantastic. I made a car club tour for our local Portland AACA Group to Tacoma. The museum location. We found the orginal Bullet Mustang with movie excerpts in the corner down on the second floor in a corner. you enter the museum on the 4th level from the huge parking area. Great day had by all

Made a car buff out of me.... Been there three times and each time they featured unique cars. Well done and don't miss out...

With over 300 old cars, trucks, motorcycles and race cars on display anyone who loves cars needs to visit here.

As I fully expected to be a bit bored at the car museum, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of historical info regarding different eras while touring the LeMay car museum. The tidbits of data I picked up along the way were well worth the admission price. That in itself made for a fun outing.

A car museum is not usually on my bucket list. However, this Tacoma attraction, only five years old, rates its four stars for its unique building and its unabashed adoration of America's Car Culture. The long silver tube-like building is distinctive, to say the least. What is surprising is that the contents of the musuem are four levels below the entrance, where a series of ramps leads the visitor past individual displays. Excellent posters give information about the creation of bespoke cars that were coveted by film stars like Clark Gable and Gary Cooper. The ramp dedicated to Route 66 is pulsing with nostalgia; the huge, kitsch images posted near the highways; the classic diners with their leather-topped stools. All of the employees and volunteers are delighted to add information or to chat about the visitor's own auto memories. The mezzanine cafe is a nice plus: it overlooks the huge first floor with its curving roof of exposed plywood. And the cheeseburgers on a brioche bun weren't bad either!

I'm not much of a car person but my dad is so we went here when he came to visit. I was quite impressed! I had no idea the place was so big inside! Since I don't know a lot about cars, I was kind of hoping they would be displayed in some sort of order, like by make/model and year, but oh well. It was super cool to see modern cars sitting right next to 100 year old vehicles. I couldn't believe the horsepower that the first cars had! My lawnmower is more powerful now. It's crazy to think how far technology has come. You won't be disappointed with your visit.

A great place to view old cars and relive old memories. A wide range of vehicles that changes periodically

I attended this museum on a cold day in December. We spent several hours looking at the cars. It was very interesting lots of variety and information. I am not sure what other reviewers mean when they say skip this and go to family museum because let me tell you this car museum is HUGE. It is very cool and definitely worth a visit.

This was within walking distance to Hotel so added bonus though has free parking. Great variety of motor vehicles and motor bikes on display all within easy walking. They do have a restaurant and also a lift.

The LeMay America's Car Museum is truly a must visit for any car lover or even non car lover while in the Tacoma area. This Museum is simply amazing. The crazy number of cars seems to go on forever. Prepare to spend some time here. There are four major floors which each floor has a main center gallery and to side galleries all with cars, mucho, mucho cars!!!

They have a great variety of cars. I loved reading the walls of info in each area. I am not a car buff but I loved this muesuem! The cars are better when you see them in person !

This place is for the car enthusiast. However I am not one and I still had a great time. It is nicely laid out, got to dress up and have a picture In one of the older cars. People were super friendly. My boyfriend especially like the virtual racing he did in one of the activities you can do there.

On saturday September 16 2023 I was to meet my son and grandson to go thru the museum.I got to the museum and proceeded to park in front the entrance not knowing where to park because there was no signage.I was there about 2 -3 minutes before a gentleman came out to ask if he couls help me.I told him I was waiting for someone and then proceeds to tell me that parking was across the road,I then said where is the handicap parking and he pointed the same direction and that they had a bunch of motorcyclist coming in and that they would parking in the area where I was.I looked at him and I said "so motorcyclist get preferential over handicapped people" he just pointed across the road and said "thats where the handicap parking is" so proceeded to move.I go overto the parking lot and there was one handicap spot and I parked ,that spot was a good 300 feet away from the entrance so if your handicapped that's what you can expect when you get there and the 1 handicap parking spot.Once inside everything was good and had a great time with my son and grandson.

This is a fun place to visit but I have to admit that my husband appreciated it more than I did. If you are a car buff this is a place you don't want to miss. It's hard to believe that LeMay collected all of these vehicles over the years. He obviously spent a fortune on old cars. Glad that they are now in a museum.

The LeMay Car Museum has an amazing collection of cars, trucks and motorcycles; and periodically brings in special exhibits from other museums and collectors. The museum is well laid out and easy to navigate. The museum provides excellent signage and informational displays about the history and evolution of automobiles. There is even a "family" area where children have hands on opportunities for entertainment and fun. The cafe' has a small but very good selection of food. I had one of the best BLT and avacado sandwiches I've had in a while. I'd go back just for the BLT. This is well worth a visit for anyone who appreciates cars old and new.

A friend and I went to check out the cars, and to see what they had. Oh, my!!! Between 330 and 350 cars (what is shown from the collection can change). Each of them were gorgeous. The restoration work was magnificent. And, oh, the memories those cars triggered. We decided to check the time, and found out that three hours had gone by -- whoosh! The cars are wonderfully presented, and there is lots of explanatory material to be had, if you want it. And when you need a break from ogling the autos, try driving in the race car simulator. Great fun, but also a truly humbling experience. I'll go back again some day.

Recently we had family visiting from out of town and we opted to visit the ACM. My husband purchased a Groupon for what we thought was the ACM. Be advised to double check Groupon as what we purchased was tickets to the LeMay Family Collection at Marymount. The Groupon will not work for ACM.
The ACM is a great place for car lovers and historians alike. I am not a car enthusiast, but I enjoyed myself and learned several things about the history of the automobile. Make sure you take your walking shoes as there is a ton of walking up and down ramps.

Spent the afternoon at the LeMay Car Museum with a friend and was pleasently suprised at the wide variety of cars in the collection. The building is laid out like a parking garage with different levels for the era of car, from early models of the 1900's to modern Ferrari's and Ford GT supercars. They have a nice resteraunt as well and there were too many cars to see in one day. I will come again!

Easy parking. Clever layout. The staff are all there to help and give up their knowledge.
Something for all usvpetrol heads.

Very enjoyable car museum, covering 3 stories. They are nicely laid out over the levels. They also have a simulator downstairs!

What a spectacular museum. The museum itself is a work of art with its soaring wood ceilings. There are generally about 300 vehicles in the museum at any given time, curated out of a huge collection and arranged in changing themes. There is something for everyone, including motorcycles. Be sure to take the White Glove tour. It lasts about 90 minutes. Our docent, Bill, was a very interesting gentleman and shared a wealth of information about the cars. The tour doesn’t cover every car, so we spent another 90 minutes wandering around on our own. I’ve visited many auto museums, and this ranks high on my list.

I have visited this museum multiple times and have loved it more each time. There is so much to see and experience. The variety of vehicles, the history, the hands on experiences... It is just wonderful.

The purpose of the trip was the museum. My husband had long wanted to go here.We made it a weekend get away. He was in heaven. It was like visited our youth with lots more. We stayed 4 hours.

My son and I dropped our $20 each to see the 75 Years of Porsche display. We have been to ACM several times in the last eight years and are familiar with the cars that adorn the museum (they haven't really changed).
To our dismay, there were 14 Porsches in your display, with 4 of them the same model. With the exception of a couple of monitors and posters providing information, 75 Years of Porsche was underrepresented. There were no 924s, 944s, 968s, Boxsters, Cayennes, Macans, Panameras or Taycans. The array of the 911 models over the years was absent. The history making models that Porsche produced were non-existent. I understand the absence of some of the exceptionally rare Porsches, but your display is not 75 Years of Porsche. It’s more akin to having a couple of the museum's sponsors cars on the floor. My son and I were thoroughly disappointed. You are responsible for false advertising.
What you could do is reach out to the local PNW and PCA owner groups. We could flood your museum with a true collection of Porsches that would be representative of 75 years. This may allow you to garner an appreciation from us enthusiasts.
By way of comparison, the Griot’s Garage car event this past month in Tacoma was themed Porsche. It cost us nothing to peruse the 120+ Porsches on a gorgeous morning with free coffee and donuts. Rare Porsches were on display to include almost all 75 years of Porsche.
Count me as displeased.

I just love to see historical cars. Very nice setup on multiple levels and priced fair by comparison to other car museums. Easy to find and plenty of parking. If you are a real fan I would bet you could spend almost all day here.

What an incredible collection and set up to explore cars and bikes. The layout lends itself to a great experience. You’ll want to block 2 to 4 hours. There are interactive things for both kids and adults. A chance to learn and be put in awe.

Very cool collection of cars. They even rotate some of them so you get to see new cars every time you visit. When we were there they had some nice sports cars from the 80's including ferraris and lambos.

4 floors of cars of all types. Easy to get to and plenty of parking. Plan on spending 2 to 3 hours. Great place

One of the most enjoyable parts of my trip was the museum. I was there for a car convention and on my last day toured the exhibits and took my time and would recommend this to anyone

My brother was visiting from New Jersey and since he loves cars and I hadn't been to the museum yet, we decided to check it out. It was pretty awesome. The cars were cleaned, polished and the descriptions were great.

After a trip to the San Juan Islands our group had an extra day staying near the airport and were looking for a day trip before our flight back. While looking at Tacoma we settled on the LeMay-America's Car Museum. The museum is designed to easily see cars from across history. From looking at special collections to learning about the life and collection of Harold and Nancy LeMay this is truly a special museum.

Took my three kids and spent about 2 hours looking around. Great collection cars from 1900 to 2018. Well worth a trip for car lovers. Free photo included and a few fun things for the kids.

Truly - you can spend hours here. Plan on doing the simulator & slotcars too! Fun for the whole family. Include a stop at the cafe for a coffee/tea or meal.
P.S. Bring your camera for the cars & the building.

I'm not a car fan, but this museum has so awesome and funky cars! I was really interested in the first cars, and they actually had some authentic ones from the 1910-20's! Wow! So neat to see since I love the 20's. The older cars were really interesting and definitely worth the look. If I remember correctly, they're all owned by one man.. and he has more!

This museum is absolutely beautiful. The cars obviously are the main attraction, but the history and videos accompanying most of the cars/exhibits is really interesting. Take the time to stop and read them!

What a delight. Floor after floor of cars, back through the ages. Spit and polish. So much fun. you really have to visit. Even my ordinarily nonchalant-about-cars wife was thrilled. Just so much fun.

We enjoyed touring the Lemay museum. There were volunteers on every level to answer any questions about the cars. We enjoyed seeing the old cars and the view of Tacoma was amazing.

We were visiting friends in Seattle and my buddy knowing me as a car nut suggested a visit, while the women were off doing what they do.
What a fantastic experience, the building as you arrive is impressive, an airfoil shaped structure with the huge roof arches made from laminated wooden beams, once inside the great staff on the desk made us very welcome with advice on where to start and what to see.
I could go on for ages about the beautifully restored and preserved vehicles, not just American Iron, but European and British.
The highlight however was the enormous and I don’t say that lightly, collection of every Honda motor cycle from the Start of production, every one as new.
A great day topped off with a coffee and sandwich at the cafe,
If like me you appreciate great cars? Don’t miss this.

Plenty of room for parking and the ticket machine has been broke for 5 years, so essentially, parking is free😀.
We were hungry when we arrived, so went upstairs and had breakfast before we started our tour, that way we could enjoy ourselves.
This museum is set up on 4 floors and there are elevators if you need them but between floors are ramps, no stairs so it is easy to go between floors. On the walls are information, like the first car we say 1910 there was a signe that read, “1910, A Changing World” and under that a blurb about what was happening that year, made the museum a history lesytoo.
They change the cars around every so many months because they have more cars thank space and new exhibits too, like a Honda motorcycle collection.
They also have events like a gathering were everyone wore clothes from the 20’s.
While we were there they let us get into a classic car and took our picture then printed it out for free to talk home with us.
We spent at least 3 hours there and will be going back because there is no way to tease in this most amazing collection, ( the collection is in the largest in the world and the owner didn’t want the collection to be sold off so the family has part of his collection her and stored the rest). I am so glad we finally got here and will come back again. I have already told my friends, that they need to see this beautiful display of classic cars.

Great car museum. Lot's of 1930 to 1960 American stock. A few exotics. A few orphan brands. Not many muscle cars. Call ahead. Get times for guided tours. Tour takes about an hour. Allow time to wander on your own either before or after the tour.

I visited in January 2018 with three generations: my husband, our daughter, and grandkids. My husband loved seeing the cars in such great condition from the earliest times to the present. My daughter and I enjoyed the way the museum is laid out, in years, with written descriptions of the time period. My grandsons had a great time seeing the cars and driving the CXC racing simulators. We were there two hours and did not get through 1/2 of the museum. It's a lot of fun, well laid out and well maintained. We will be back.

Besides having a great collection of automobiles, there are things for the kids to do and of course us adults get in on the action too. Some of you guys who were lucky enough to be in cub scouts may remember the pine wood derby races each year. Well they have a 4 lane track there, and they provide the cars. It is really cool and the kids love it. our 4 year old Grandson takes us immediately down there to race cars. But wait, there is more, he has to make a decision to do the Pine wood derby or the Slot Car Track. yes they have a 4 lane Slot car track that is outstanding. His Grandpa even has to get in some laps. They provide the cars too for this. pretty cool. Thanks ACM for a great time for all.

I am not a huge car guy but this place is really cool. So many types and styles of motorized vehicle with story lines and great descriptions and stories about the vehicles.

Museum is neat. Neither one of us are car enthusiasts so it wasn’t the most exciting museum but it’s well done. Beautiful space. My favorite part was getting our photo taken in an old car.

This is the biggest & best exhibit I have seen , other than Calgary, AB.
Its very well displayed. Nice cafe on the top floor. Gift shop on the main floor. Elevators. Washrooms. Great view of Tacoma . Really worth the time & money

Just about everything imaginable in the way of classic and antique cars! The founder preferred original examples (as opposed to restored) so you’ll see only the cream of the crop!

Several hundred vehicles of all years, a personal collection of local successful business man. There are some theme areas, but things are fairly mixed up with no overall clear organization. Few Euro cars, and almost no Asian. Italy is particularly missing. Needs more stories about the various vehicles.

My son and I took the afternoon to go to the LeMay museum. A great collection of super cars as well as old classics. Pay the little extra to do the race simulator. It was every bit as good as the one at the US Grand Prix. And there was no line!

Over 500 cars (with exhibits that change out regularly), you easily need more than a hour or two to see the collection. Four floors of beautiful vehicles covering close to 100 years of motoring. The staff are clearly passionate about cars and will walk with you to talk about the collection. Nascar, British, muscle, exotics...they are here! You'll pay a modest fee to park when you buy your tickets, but parking is plentiful in their lot. They offer a free photo of your group in one of the vintage cars with an immediate print to take with you as well as the option to email it to yourself. Which car was my favorite? Too hard to choose!

To non-car enthusiasts, this is a good place to spend a couple of hours to read about America's history as it relates to the industrial evolution of our economy and society. To car buffs, it's a great way to use up an entire day to ooo-and-ahhh over each car and motorcycle. There's even a cafe when you get hungry, and you will get hungry from all the walking. The bathrooms are clean, and the parking is free.

The cars are ever changing, but never dull! (Well kept, & honored.) LeMay has brought back the Classic in Classic vehicles. Good job LeMay!

I have wanted to see this car museum for some time. Since we were on Vancouver Island we detoured to Tacoma. Lots of traffic but the museum was worth it. Several floors of cars, all on ramps. Very interesting building. Hundreds of cars. Some were quite rare. Staff was helpful. Loved the 1922 Dodge we could take pictures in. I understand there is a Lemay family car museum which I may come back to see.
My only concern was the nearby Hampton Inn we stayed at that night had several cars vandalized. Not a safe feeling.

I attended the Bootlegger blowout with my wife and daughter for something to do that looked fun. I have been meaning to visit the museum to check it out because I enjoy looking at cars but have never gotten around to it until then. I am glad I did and am now a member. It was a fun event with food, music and beverages. Once I started looking around at the vintage cars and motorcycles, it brought back a lot of memories of everything from old drag and nascar races to minibikes and streetrods to your everyday drivers that have been forgotten. I am looking forward to attending more events and bringing my friends and family to enjoy the exhibits and play the games.

A must see if you are a car buff. Classics as well as the ordinary and extraordinary that are important to the automotive culture. Activities for kids and adults alike. Some TLC needed on some of the activities and there is an additional charge for the racing simulators. All in all a reasonable cost for entry.

We were in Tacoma visiting our grandson at Univ. of Puget Sound. Our hotel just happened to be across the street from this museum, which is the only reason I went.
Apparently, Mr. LeMay made a fortune in the garbage business, and decided to spend a lot of it on his hobby, collecting cars. From Wikipedia:
Harold LeMay owned a successful refuse company, Harold LeMay Enterprises, within the Tacoma metro area and amassed the world's largest private car collection.[2] After his death, the city of Tacoma donated 10 acres (4.0 ha) of land next to the Tacoma Dome for the museum that would contain some of his car collection. The majority of the collection remains at the LeMay Family Collection at Marymount in nearby Spanaway. The museum has 165,000 square feet (1.53 ha) of exhibit space,[1] and contains a 350-car gallery showing cars notable for their speed, technology and design, as well as their importance to car culture. The building also contains gift shops, restoration shops, lecture halls, galleries, a banquet room, and a café run by Gordon Naccarato's Naccarato Restaurant Group.[4]
Donors and sponsors
The projected cost of the museum is $100 million. Harold LeMay's wife, Nancy LeMay, donated $15 million to the museum. The land donated to the museum by the City of Tacoma is estimated to be worth $17 million.[2]
The American Automobile Association (AAA) of Washington made the largest corporate donation to date with its 2008 commitment of $1.6 million.[7] Other major museum sponsors are Bonhams, Boeing, The News Tribune, and State Farm Insurance. Other donors include various car collectors, auto clubs and citizens worldwide.

Whoever put the museum together is a genius. It's not just a magnificent car collection; the cars are displayed magnificently. Admission was very reasonable, under $20. Everything was spotless and shiny. Excellent signage and information, especially about how the cars are related to our history and economy and sociology.
Whether you are a car enthusiast or not, go here, and don't shortchange yourself -- spend a full day.

This is one of the best museum's that I have ever been too! The collection of cars is absolutely one of a kind and the building is beautiful! The educational and interactive features of the car museum are one of a kind. The view from the building is amazing and the little cafe has great drinks. Don't hesitate to stop by LeMays!

Visited the museum with our extended family with ages from 19 to 80. All enjoyed the visit. The museum is well arranged and wonderfully maintained. There is a wide variety of cars from just about all years. There is plenty of history to read for those who like reading, but the cars alone are captivating from a visual perspective. Definitely worth the price and I would visit again. Excellent!

This is a very well designed museum and very viewer friendly. I am not the car person in my family, but thoroughly enjoyed this place. The construction of the museum is brilliant. You enter on the top floor and proceed down ramps (full of specialized exhibits) to view the cars. When you end on the bottom floor, you then go up the ramps on the other side until you get back to the entrance. This way as you walk through the museum, you really can see each and every car in a logical manner.
Some of the exhibits honored collectors, the British Invasion, Route 66 among others. It was full of interesting stories about many of the cars.
For kids (or the kid in all of us) they have a simulator to race drive, a model car track race...
I have been to many car museums, and enjoyed is one the most! Absolutely recommend going.

Came across this by accident while reading “Visit Seattle” (page 39], hardly mentioned anywhere else. If you are one little bit interested in American Car History then this is the place for you. If you are a petrol head, like me, it ishould be placed on your MUST visit list when in Seattle.
Beautifully set out, with heaps of amazing vehicles, some of which you may of have never seen before and are unlikely to see again.

This place is amazing. Cars / motorcycles and more. A great place to review the history of the automobile and early travel methods.

This place is huge on four levels, we ran out of energy and left before their closing. Depending on your interests, there's some reading along the walls that tells us Route 66 open Americans to travel by driving and the Grand Canyon open their minds. There a cafe on the top level, free WiFi. Restrooms and benches in certain places. I like finding that they have a few early electric vehicles, one with a hundred miles range. The smaller cars appeal to me. After seeing a lot of large vehicles one after another, my interest seem to glaze over.
I would like to own an all electric vehicle but not at it's current price point, and not with it's current battery technology. The industry must come with a solid polymer lithium metal battery that offers higher storage capacity and doesn't cause a fire when damaged. The technology already exists, it just needs a major automotive company to embrace it and start the mass production using this technology.

LeMay has a very diverse collection of cars. Restored classics, race cars and hot rods. The collections displays the groundbreaking innovations of automotive history.

On our overnight getaway, we visited this Museum. It was nice.. many, many beautiful cars.. lots of interesting historical information what more can I say. I think admission is overpriced and I don't believe they should charge for parking as they have a huge parking lot but I guess they have to pay the bills somehow. Aside from that, yeah, great collection of beautiful cars, friendly staff; especially the gentleman that was taking the photos Sunday morning (8/27)he was wonderful! What more can I say... I chose my favorite 2 cars of all... See pics :)

Great collection of cars displayed in authentic settings. Range covers the whole history of motoring in all its forms. Staff helpful and a good shop. Good little cafe too.

Very cool place to visit if you have never been. Tons of extraordinary cars from years back - all in mint condition. The museum itself is quite an architectural delight as well.
I never heard so many people say, "I used to have a car like that!"... pretty funny considering I was one of them!

I could'nt have imagned there were so many floors of classic cars by looking at the outside of the building, and collectible cars too, very interesting great time.

Nice cars, not really a place for small grandchildren under 6 years old. Family of 4 adults 3 kids 77 dollars. Reasonable. Parking seemed on the shady side. Public parking with meters and choice of hours to park was inoperable. So you had to go inside and were forced to choose the three hour option for 5 dollars. I wished they would let me choose the 2 hour option. The Grand kids were ready to go in 2 hours.

If you like automobiles and/or automotive history, this place is definitely a must see. You can get close enough to really get a good look at everything from the early 1900's to right now. There's everything from your first car or your Dad's car, custom or hot rods, classic automobiles, racing cars, and even supercars. You can even get your picture taken (included in the price of admission) in a 1923 Buick. The docents are both knowledgeable and friendly. The architectural design, layout, and construction techniques used to make this museum are as unique as many of the automobiles on display. One caveat: to see the whole collection, a quite lengthy walk is required. This includes going up and down long ramps. There are benches and seating all throughout the displays.allowing a respite. We spent about 3 hours covering the whole collection. There is a gift shop and a somewhat pricey eatery. AAA members and seniors get a discount on their tickets.

Definitely worth the stop! A little overwhelming with the amount of cars they have. So many makes and models from the past. Great collection.

We made a plan to visit this museum on our 25th Anniversary since our jammed packed week in Olympia did not allow us to pick another day. Thankfully it also fell on the "Hoods Up for Father's Day" event at the museum. Needless to say this earned me major brownie points with my hubby and teens. They are all obsessed with cars. We were able to see the whole museum in a little under 3 hours and even got a complimentary picture e-mailed to us. If you like cars and want to see a beautifully set up collection, plan a visit. There is a snack bar/cafe, but we did not visit it. We did, though, shop at the gift store.

My friend's boyfriend is obsessed with cars and dragged us to this museum when they visited from London. As someone who generally views cars as transportation, I thought I would be bored out of my mind, but I could not have been more wrong. The building itself is very cool and the exhibits do a great job of engaging the clueless. Of course our car nut was in high heaven. The car collection is extensive, everything back to the first horseless carriages. They have vintage cars, race cars, military cars and movie cars. My favorite: the DeLorean. Definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon with friends in Tacoma!

If you enjoy classic cars, you won't be disappointed. You can easy spend several hours here. The museum is from a private collector who donated their collection.

I am not a big car buff, but I do enjoy looking at vintage automobiles. Spent about 3 & 1/2 hours in the museum, to include lunch at the cafe. There was a lot of material to read, and could have spent a lot more time if I had attempted to read a majority of it.
I did not realize that electric cars were an old idea. There were a few on display, circa 1910. Also there were a couple of solar powered test vehicles in the exhibit.
The cafe was decent. Limited menu, mostly burgers.
We had to pay to park, although there appeared to be some limited free parking along the road into the museum.
Bear in mind that this museum is located next door to the Tacoma Dome. If there is an major event going on at the Dome, you might want to avoid a visit at that time.

I have passed this museum on the highway many times and I went with my family after spending the night at Alderbrook Lodge. We were looking for something to do on the way home. It was great! I have a 17 year old son and 19 year old daughter who both loved it. They each picked out their favorite cars and we spent about 2 hours looking at everything. It is great for something to do when passing through Tacoma. I will take out of town visitors there. In my opinion more fun than the Space Needle or the Museum of Glass.

This museum is amazing. The history of vehicles and how they have developed over time is riveting. We toured this museum with a group of our friends from Norway. The language of cars is translated into a universal understanding by everyone. We laughed at how things have changed from the first vehicle to the most modern.

I didn’t think I would enjoy the car museum as much as I did! I took so many pictures and fell in love with so many cars and the restaurant at the top of the car museum has the best French dip I’ve had in years also good hamburgers and root beer floats!!! I really enjoyed this place as did my grandson!!!

I went expecting to spend a hour at the most and ended up spending most of the afternoon. The selection of cars was outstanding as was the facility. They had classics that appealed to all auto buffs. The condition of the cars were as if they had just came off the assembly line. It is a place that I will take out of town visitors, a nice break from all the natural wonders of the area.

I have always loved and been fascinated with cars. Back in the day, I had a couple of awesome muscle cars. Loved seeing them again. It was also great to work with other volunteers who are so knowledgeable about the industry and timeframes of the vehicles.
I will definitely go there again and highly recommend it to anyone living here local or visiting from out of town.

I am not hard core car fan but i do like history and well build machines. Visit to this museum was a right choice for me. I arrived at 10.15 am and left 4.45 PM. There is lots to see and to read that you just have to plan for a hole day. Make sure you bring your DSLR because phone cameras will not be able to catch all details and different angles you would like to see on your photos. For museum i would suggest to make another cafeteria just at the end of the last downhill ramp, before you start going uphill to see other sets of cars.. You just need a place to rest and get some cup of coffee...
The entry fee is reasonable, prices in the cafe are also OK, very clean environment and a lots to see. Next time i am bringing my DSLR camera and planing to visit in two days. One day is not enough...

This museum is really really cool if you love cars! You will not regret visiting. A huge collection and a very interesting looking building.

While the layout can be a little confusing, the contents are amazing. There are so many unique, unusual, and rare cars all under one roof. The history of the automobile and automotive industry is truly fascinating, and this museum does it justice. One could easily spend hours upon hours here. The only thing I would take points off for is that the vehicles are so tightly packed together that you can't really look inside at the interiors.

There are cars for every type of car lover that you can imagine. At this time nothing like the Jetson's flying car but when it becomes available I am sure that they will have one there for viewing.

My 3rd visit.Got to take my grandson this time.Very nice place. Good mix of cars nd the history of cars. The stories long with some of the cars ,plus the exhibits make this a must see hen in Tcom Seattle area.

The museum is filled with autos and automobiles, but the guided tour is the only way get a better idea of the whats and whys of the place. Our volunteer guide, Jeff, was knowledgeable and patient with our group. He spent several hours answering questions and sharing stories. His enthusiasm was infectious and made for a pleasant and informative day.
This extensive collection is a must-see for car buffs, but the displays and other features make it fun for everyone.

Had visited the large Lemay on our first trip but not this one. Totally different experience. Lots and lots of beautiful cars. Deceiving building as it has 4 floors of cars going down. I'm a muscle car guy so I was a bit disappointed that there were very few but the old beauties like Dieses were everywhere and just beautiful. Great visit and would recommend this car museum. Very well done Lemays.

We have been to the museum twice because my husband likes old cars. We enjoyed it and may go again this next summer. If you like OLD CARS, you will enjoy the museum !
At one point we had four 1958 Chevys - now we are down to 2 (one fully restored, and one needs a few more touch ups). What can I say but: Boy's and their toys!!!

You can't. You just can't take it all in in one visit. The museum, opened in 2012, has an iconic design and is right off the freeway. There is ample open air parking, and there are no stairs getting to the museum or in the museum. Love that barrier-less design. Inside, the cars and other items are displayed in a spiral design. There are cars, old trucks, motorcycles, walls displays about Route 66 (it would have been nice to have had some real artifacts from some of those old motels -- like the coin-operated radio!). For NASCAR fans, there is a whole section devoted to NASCAR drivers and movers and shakers. There are abundant restrooms and water fountains. There are a few interactive activities for children -- or adults. There is a lovely patio with views of the water -- for a nice day. There is, also, a little cafe upstairs. I did not try the food, but it looked inviting. The volunteers were friendly and helpful. I'm not a big car enthusiast, but I really appreciate the historical and throw-back aspects I viewed. Wonderful.

We had purchased tickets for the other car place and thought it was this one so going here was a mistake. It was great and lots of wonderful memories of cars.

Toured with a group from the conference I was attending and have to admit this may have been the coolest part of my trip. Race simulators were especially cool and my son loved them.

Interesting car museum, lots of very old and rare cars as well as a fun race track for kids, and big kids, to play on'

This is our third visit in the last five years and each time we enjoy it as much as the first. My husband and son in law both love cars. Old and new. The museum gives them a place to bond. The only downside is that this has spoiled us for any other car museum. The race track simulators are so realistic that I can’t use them-I literally get car sick! But everyone else loves them. We also enjoy listening to the volunteers who are full of interesting facts. This is a great place to visit for all ages. Just plan on spending two to three hours. There is so much to see you won’t want to rush.

Wow is how I describe this museum. Four floors of nothing but automobiles. They have a senior discount which for 4 of us plus parking fee was $69. But it is a well run and organized museum. Some of the autos I had never seen before but many I had seen at car shows/museums over the years. We were there on a Wed. morning and not crowded at all.

Had a day with two male friends and nothing to do. A decision was made to visit the museum. Easy to get to. More than ample parking. Staff were very pleasant and more than willing to answer any questions. Even received a free complimentary souvenir picture sitting in an antique convertible.
The cars were exquisitely restored. Most likely frame off restorations with expertly applied paint and meticulously maintained.
The vehicles were staged throughout the four floor complex. Exhibits classic coach works, exotic super cars, early trucks, alternative propulsion, etc. A large number of 50's and 60's vehicles brought back many memories.
With all that, there was significant open space as they were changing vehicles to change their displays. I would estimate there were well in excess of 100 cars on display.
A most enjoyable and educational experience for this 74 year young car buff.

Four floors of beautiful cars. A must see for car lovers and anyone who appreciates cars if all eras. There are also racing simulators and a small child interactive section. The story Mr. LaMay's work ethic and love for cars is inspiring. The building is beautiful, and the staff are wonderful. The cost of admission is cheap, the cars are beautiful, and there is do much to see! Depending on how much you love cars, you can spend a few hours to all day! A must see!

The good: large number of cars. Beautiful main floor display space (unfortunately half of it given over to Saleen Mustangs and other non-road going race cars). Lots (lots!!) of educational information about the sources, alternatives and history of fuel, etc. If you are into that - there must have been some serious funding or tax considerations there. Interactive activity for the children. Decent, informative signage on most of the collection with little nuggets of info worth reading/watching even if you already knew 'what' the car was. Downsides: you must pay for parking in addition to the ticket and consequently it's $23 or something single. That's a but high. Museum is sort of a finished parking garage which is fine, but it's also popular with families and shrieking, running 5 year-olds that don't help the acoustics. Multiple groups of them. The worst, almost unforgiveable thing is display choice on some of the underground levels - the cars are just packed in, not even on an angle, just grilles facing a walking path between them. Photos useless at that point, as is trying to get a sense of what the vehicle actually looks like. Might just as well walk past them unseeing (as people did). Sacrifice some darn space, rotate, and display the things properly. One level just sort of threw cars into a jumble two rows back - what the heck? Yet prime real estate often given over to yet more race cars on the connecting ramps between levels. Then there's those few cars behind glass at the end - squint and see the Eldo Brougham from its static end on view 12 feet away. Whopee. It's worthwhile to visit for the size of its collection, but will frustrate a serious car buff - great potential, not fully realized.

A wide variety of cars, primarily American, from the very early days through to the current day. During our visit the special exhibit on the main floor was a collection of Japanese cars, and a second exhibit of British cars was also present. Our teenage boys particularly enjoyed the driving simulators - but they cost extra and at $15 for a 6 minute ride, pretty pricey. That’s the only downside - it’s quite an expensive proposition. However, we can thoroughly recommend the on-site cafeteria, where we grabbed lunch. Fresh made sandwiches and wraps that were huge, very fresh and really tasty.

So many vehicles, so much variety, such authentic restorations, friendly staff and fun to explore! Take your family and learn some automotive history.

A 'must see' Museum for anyone who has ever admired the lines of an automobile or been a car racing enthusiast. This Museum has it all. A plethora of automobile history and an amazing array of cars . Come in and enjoy the history of automobile racing. The chance to drive historic raceways in the simulator section makes this visit an awesome experience.

We have been here a couple times and it changes each time. A great collection of every make and model in a real cool building.

Awesome car museum with exibits of old and new modern types if cars spread over 4 huge floors telling the history and development of automobile industry. Must see!

Only had 3 hours to spare but could have spent the whole day. Appreciated the variety and quality of what was on hand. Many of the vehicles here are difficult to find in other places. We went on a weekday so visitor numbers were fairly small. For someone like me who takes photos seriously, I appreciated them letting guests photograph the cars as long as you stay behind the cordons—and of course no flash. Overall would love to come back and spend more time.

This was one of the first places we went because we had heard about this from friends. All the levels of automobiles and bikes was unbelievable. I can’t imagine having a collection of automotive history like they have here.

This museum has an extensive collection of old, more modern, and funky automobiles and trucks, and motorcycles on 4 levels of museum. Walking is easy by way of up and down ramps. An elevator is also available. It is worth the price of admission.

One of the highlights of a family reunion in Tacoma. They have what has to be the finest collection of automobiles anywhere. All our family members thought it was a great museum. It is a must see in the Tacoma area.

Tons of cars on four floors! Experience the history of cars in a great setting. Simply beautiful museum with lots of helpful employees throughout. Cars from all generations back to 1899.. Must visit!

We visited the LeMay museum on an early weekday afternoon and it was not crowded. They have an astonishing collection of cars of all vintages from all over the world. The four floors of cars, motorcycles and even a few trucks will take 2 - 3 hours to appreciate, but it is well worth the time.

They have a rotating display because Carroll Lemay had 3800 cars and there isn't room for all of them. Cars from the teens, 20's, 30's, every decade of the 1900's is represented. Muscle cars, race cars, steam cars, they have something every car guy will LOVE. I like that 63 Studebaker Avanti with the Paxton supercharger and 68 Shelby Gt500KR Mustang. They even have some motorcycles.

I have been to this museum twice, the first time was 2 years ago. I am a huge car buff and was super excited to check it out. The building is beautiful and the collection includes many beautiful and rare cars... but both times I left feeling that something was missing.
The admission charge of $18 seems high for a museum that takes about 2 hours at the most to see and the fact that they charge $5 (in addition)to park seems unreasonable. The employees seem disinterested and no one was there to talk about the cars or answer questions.
The museum is spread over several floors. The first floor is the large gallery with a rotating collection - In this visit there was a collection of exotic sports cars. The visitor walks down ramps to the lower levels passing by cars along the way. On the lower floors, the cars are packed in with the front facing the visitor. As you pass through, you can only get a front view of the cars.
Maybe my expectations were too high but I left feeling that the experience was lacking something... I believe the museum could emphasize the people who designed, built, bought, drive and restored the cars.. each car must have a story to tell but the museum did not tell the story...

The museum had a large amount of cars, but was not overwhelming as building was well designed allowing the autos to be spaced over multi-levels with good lighting and space between each vehical.

Whilst staying with my Aunt and Uncle, we visited this fabulous museum. Not sure of the entry cost but it was an extremely good and very well laid out museum. I would highly recommend a visit if you like cars and for some, even if you not a car fan. There is a spot where you can get a photo of you sitting in a car and that's free. You also get the photo sent to your computer again, for free. The simulators were reasonably priced and a lot of fun. They also gave a restaurant but we didn't use it so I can't comment. The gift shop is well stocked and quite reasonably priced. All in all, a wonderful place to go.

First I thought it was going to be boring, waste of money, but I am glad we went. Some cars bring back memories, and some I didn't know it existed. My nephews came and visited from San Diego and UK. Both like it. Surprising, my daughter like it.

We literally discovered this place while cruising the I5 into Seattle, and wondered what it was. We stopped off late in the day, and were astounded at how cool this museum was! What a collection of cars! This place has everything, with a very healthy dose of American cars from throughout the ages. It's one of the best car museums I've ever visited anywhere in the world, and completely blew my mind. So many great vehicles on show, and a real story to be told as you wander around and around the displays. It's very well laid out too, making the whole experience truly brilliant! I only wish we had more time to stay! Definitely check this place out if you're in the area; it's brilliant!

We didn't know much about the LeMay family before we came here, but that didn't matter, because the cars speak for themselves. The building itself is architecturally interesting. There's enough information given about the LeMay family, so we came to appreciate how Mr. LeMay went about collecting and restoring these cars. The cars were all immaculately displayed. Kids will have a great time too in the children's play area on the bottom floor.

Education and interesting exhibits of mostly American autos. Most of the cars are roped off so you can't walk around them. The LeMay Family collection 20 mins away is worth buying a dual entrance ticket.

First off - too expensive. Is $18 - should be $10 entrance fee. Should not charge for parking, come on...! Building is quite nice and pretty. Just a line up of parked cars though, a good selection but something is missing in the presentation, hard to put my finger on it. Staff nice enough. Place just seemed a bit dreary.

This is a beautiful facility. Laid out in a very user friendly manner so you don't miss anything. There's a wide variety of vehicles from every era, something for everyone. The cars are spotlessly clean and well displayed. Personnel is available and keeping watch but never felt intrusive. Admission is $18 and includes a complimentary photo in a vintage auto. Includes a "hands on" area for kids of all ages. For a fee there is a big slot car track guests can use. There are racing simulators, also for a fee. You can see everything in a couple hours or you could spend a day here. Restrooms are clean and conveniently located. There is an on-sight snack bar and a gift shop.
My one, less than positive critique, would be the paid parking. The ONLY place to park is in the LeMay parking lot for a fee of $5. Given the $18 admission price I was put out by also having to pay to park.

This highly eclectic collection of antique, classic and everyday cars covers over a century of automotive technology and style. We spent a couple of hours walking the five floors of cars on display. Some were true curiosities, as in a couple of teeny-tiny, but fully drivable models from the late 40s. Others were true antiques, as in horseless carriages from the turn of the 20th century. The top floor featured three current exhibits. First was a history of Saleen Racing. Steve Saleen, a well-known Mustang tuner, is also a racing driver of note. The second, a small collection of Ferrari cars, although beautiful, seemed just a filler. The last, a selection of Cadillacs from the 'teens (that is, the Nine-teens) to nearly today, showed the long and steadily more stylish road that marque has taken from its birth to today.
We enjoyed the place, and recommend it to car fans.

Fabulous place. Much bigger than it looks, with hundreds of cars. Well worth a visit if you are even into cars a little bit.

The LeMay car museum it the best car museum I have ever seen, it's huge, indoors with 4 floors, great for families, children and adults

A large collection of classic cars and exhibits that provide a history of the automotive industry in America.
There were a few more contemporary cars features but not as many as I would have liked.
The Museum is easily accessible via a single public transit bus from Seattle.
It takes about 1.5 hours to walk the museum.

Workers were rude and impatient with small kids visiting the museum. Our 3 year old picked up a toy car at the gift shop and, as any kid would, attempted to play with it. The worker at the gift shop called him out and told him he had to put it back. The kid is 3 and the toy cars are put at a child accessible height. We won’t be going back here.

From novices to car experts- you'll leave having a fulfilling experience! The layout, history, huge selection and docents are all impressive. There are interactive stops along the way to entice kids and adults. Expect to spend at least 2 happy hours here touring!

If you love cars this is the place for you. It truly is a nostalgic walk through the past. Cars that we grew up with and those we only heard about. This truly is a gem of a place.

What a great place for car enthusiasts and civilians too. It’s always changing, never disappointing. Try the race car simulator. Super fun. My mom, my kids, their kids, also myself, brother and sister all love it. Fun for all ages.

I did not know what to expect when we drove up. The museum is located in the large parking lot for the Tacoma dome and the parking is free while the parking in the rest of the lot is pay for park. What you see from the outside as you drive up is a long rounded building that is tall but does not look like it holds much. The lobby has some displayed vehicles but the main displays are after you pay; the reason the building looks small from the outside is that the floors slope down and there are 3 or 4 floors underground full of old cars to modern and various themes and collection that rotate so that it is different several time a year. When you are finished drooling over al the cars there is a cafe above the ticket counter to sit and have a coffee or whatever.
I enjoyed it and probably go back again.

This place is like no other! If you are a car or history fan, or just love cool stuff, you will love this place. There is literally something for everyone. Awesome fun!

If you like cars, then this is for you. If is heavily focused on American cars and that was perfect for me. It is an eclectic collection but worth the visit.

I love old cars. This museum has an outstanding selection of cars, motor bikes and trucks from so many eras. It is a great museum.

Amazing old cars, the one thing I would have liked was any American muscle. There were several new cars Ferrari , Lamborghini and Porsche. Great place to stop for the day..... good time.

This was enjoyed by grandfather and teen grandson. It is the perfect spot for male bonding. Give yourself more than 2-4 hours!

Spectacular cars, and motorcycles. My friend and I are in our 60's; we both have bad backs and it took everything we had to make it through the building. Could have used a couple more places to rest. Maybe a sparkletts water bottle or two might've helped.

I am not a car fan but my sons and husband wanted to go. I loved it. The building and views are stunning and the cars are amazing. The people who work here were very friendly and helpful. Very interesting exhibits, be sure to get your photo taken in the car!

i MADE A MISTAKE AND TOOK MY CAMERA/ or did I? By taking my camera. I am sure. I missed something. A treasure .... yes a treasure

The LeMay Car Museum has an amazing collection of cars, trucks and motorcycle. Must visit for any car lover.

anytime I travel if there is a car museum I go to it. America's car museum in Tacoma,Wa is one of the largest and nicest i've ever been to, they have everything from some of the first cars made to rare cars from companies that didn't last long to a room full of current model super cars, All of the cars are in perfect condition, not a scratch on them. if you love cars, this museum is a must!

Harold LeMay a long time local legend became a wealthy man with his Refuse Company. Along with Taking Out the Trash, he amazingly built us the worlds largest Automobile Collection. Marymount - out in Spanaway and the very cool downtown Tacoma, WA museum. Both are flat our COOL as all get out. MUST SEE...........

I have been there many times as parts of the museum changes every so often. It never fails to delight, its worth the 2hr drive from Portland

For those who just love all makes and models of cars this is a must see!! There are cars of every make and model! See some of the most beautiful cars there are. Wear comfortable shoes, lots of walking!!

In Tacoma for a wedding. Had a few hours to pass before leaving for the wedding. Got on Trip Advisor and saw this place. Said to plan 2-3 hours. Lots of good car stuff. I could have stayed longer.
If you like cars, this is the place to go.

My grandfather used to own a Tacoma car dealership so I wanted to see what they had there so I could perhaps donate some memorabilia

i’m totally amazed by the collection they have, some cars i didn’t know about their existence even my father saw lots of models that he had when he was studying at the university

All I can say is wow. This museum was fantastic. Four levels of beautifully restored classic and modern automobiles and more. It is very easy to walk around and there were numerous volunteers available to help and answer questions. Great great Museum.

The presentation of the vehicles was excellent but the number of cars was not as many as hoped. The information about the cars varied from detailed to light. Enjoyed it - allow at least 2 hours to see.

We enjoyed visiting this museum with our young nephew and teenage niece. The multi-floor facility features an amazing collections of cars from around the world and from the beginnings of automotive history to present. There were several interactive displays and enough exhibits to easily visit for several hours. While there, we enjoyed a delicious meal upstairs as well. While admission was more expensive than we expected, we highly recommend the engaging experience to families of all ages.

You need to first visit the LeMay Family Collection on 152nd and Pacific Ave in Spanaway only 16 miles from ACM. More than 500 cars, trucks, fire engines, outboard motors etc. This is where the museum first got started. Much better experience.

If you're into cars this is your place. Four floors of great stuff. There is great range of cars from some of the early ones to current models. Great sandwich shop and you can drive there simulators. A great way to spend the day.

While the entry fee is on the high side (DO ask for AAA discount), especially since parking is additional, we were really entertained by a visit to LeMay. The design of the building is fascinating, and the variety of vehicles kept us interested. While some of our group were not car enthusiasts, there were plenty of engaging stories of collectors, alternative energy vehicles and history. It's disappointing that the docent-led tours are additional, as are some of the activities for kids. Don't miss the view towards downtown Tacoma from the back of LeMay--it's really cool to see the whole city.

Something for everyone! I enjoyed the structure of the museum, it’s many more floors than you see from the outside. Pretty sure I was the only single woman there and one of the car historians was nice enough to make time to give me extra details about some of my favorite cars. The cafe was pretty decent! I took pics the whole time and kept sending them to my dad. It’s a lot to take in! I’ve driven by so many times, glad I made the stop.

We spent a few hours here with hubs which he really enjoyed. Had lunch upstairs in the cafe run by Pacific Grill. Nice gift shop. All first class cars whether restored or original. Exhibits were professionally documented. There is also a kid zone halfway through the museum which is massive.

We loved it. So many cars - so little time. This place has a great collection of cars from just about every decade of the 20th Century. It is large, airy, and the self guided tours are easy to follow. It has a nice gift shop, and a great [lace to get a burger right inside the museum. There are well informed docents around if you want a guided look at the collection, that will be only too happy to show you your and their favorites. Parking is only $5.00, so go spend a delightful afternoon looking at your grandfather's old Packard, or Skyliner.

Great way to spend 3-4 hours looking at automobiles both classic and unusual. Layout and presentation of special exibits makes this a memorable visit.

Even if you are not into Cars you need to go to this Museum once just to say you have been there! I am not that into cars but I thought it was a really cool museum actually. There are some interactive things to do in there. There is a cafe also to grab a little something to eat if needed. Good thing to go do to stay out of the rain!

Lemays Museum is excellent, it is four levels underground of some of the best restored cars you will ever see. The cars are all in superb condition. There is so much to look at from vintage cars to racing.
There is a lot of memorabilia from the past. The place is huge so be prepared to spend some time there.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the museum.
It is not to be missed.

This is a great museum. The collection was privately held, but now turned into a museum. You van walk down the 4 floors on one side and then walk up again on the other side. This way you'll be able to see all the cars from early 20th century to the current day. The entrance fee is a bit steep at $18. This does not yet include the $5 parking fee. It does allow you to take a picture in a car against a green screen. The picture van be printed and emailed. All-in-all worth a visit.

We had a great visit. Beautiful cars and building. Military veteran $2 discount. Bill was kind and offered his help to maximize our visit.

It is worth a visit just to see the exterior and interior of the building itself. A gorgeous sweeping design with floor to ceiling windows on the top floor with an unparalled view of Tacoma.
The cars are wide raning with no over abundance of a certain year or type. Something for everyone.
Easy walking and plenty of seats to have a rest. Super friendly staff wander about for answers to any questions. Be sure to get your photo taken in the old Buick and email it to yourself for free.
Lots of parking but be aware that access is currently confusing due to I-5 construction - trust the detour signs and you'll be fine.

Visiting family and had spare time. Very well mapped out and easy to follow. Large place so allow for a couple of hours. The cars are in different categories which makes it interesting. We saw cars we'd never heard of before. The Stanley steamer was really cool. There's a NASCAR exhibit as well.
Worth the time and visit.

Had an amazing 3hrs looking at this fantastic collection of classic cars, race cars and motorcycles. The staff were extremely friendly and pleasant and more than happy to share their valuable knowledge of the vehicles on display. We're not avid car enthusiasts but had a great time appreciating the history and beauty of the collection.

Visited the Museum with our 14 year old grandson. I have visited there several times and it's always a very special treat. This time was the best of the best. Definitely a must do.

The older hand-built luxury automobiles are so beautiful even my wife liked it. This is a really beautiful and well done museum. There are so many types of automobiles from the very earliest to recent. Even a few motorcycles. Even if you don’t care about automobiles the craftsmanship on the older vehicles will blow your mind. WELL WORTH your time

Went for a car show hosted by a radio station. They had good trucks,a beer garden, live music, was lit🤘

This is a great place for any motorhead. The building is gorgeous and the design is smart and is easily accessible for anyone. It’s clever how they built this multilevel Museum without any steps. Hats off to them.
One thing I liked about the museum is that it’s not just a bunch of expensive exotic cars, it’s every day cars that will spark wave of nostalgia in most visitors.
It was also nice being able to buy a ticket for the nearby Museum of Glass at the same time at a discount.
I spent about 90 minutes here, but I could’ve easily spent two hours or a little bit more.

Beautiful vintage cars in a very large, well designed museum. All the staff we encountered were helpful, kind and happy. Would really recommend a visit here.

The amount of cars, they have, is incredible. There is a lot to see & learn about how cars have changed throughout the years. My 70 year old father & my husband both really enjoyed it. I'm not really into cars but still loved looking at the beautiful classics. Go all the way down to the 4th floor to have some photo fun with the only car you're allowed to touch & get on.

My wife and I visited the "LeMay - America's Car Museum" and had a very fun time checking out all the old cars and motorcycles as well as delving into the history behind them all. This is a fun outing for adults and older children.

I took my 11 year old grandson to the museum on a sunny Sunday in April. He loves cars (more so than I) and we had a great time. The museum is nicely organized and contains an amazing collection. I agree with someone else's review that indicated he would have liked to see more American muscle cars, but there is certainly plenty to see. The older cars are so beautifully restored and the paint jobs are amazing. My grandson really liked the newer sports cars. There was an $845,000 Porsche 918 Spyder that caught our attention. They have several race car simulators ($8 for six minutes) and my grandson had a great time doing that. Cockpit seat with accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The seat shakes if you go off track and vibrates as one would when driving that fast. There's three screens in front of you and I found myself swaying back and forth as I stood next to him watching. He hit the wall head on once and I turned and ducked. It's quite realistic. There's a nice gift shop and a cafe. Be prepared to do quite a lot of walking. We enjoyed our time there.

A wonderful museum preserving the history of automobiles. You can walk through multiple levels of cars spanning from the beginning to the future. There is also a cafe and rotating exhibits. The current one is the Alfa Romeo that started in late June 2021 and I'm sharing some photos from the launch.

For my young 'car buff' nephew, and for me, a hobby photographer, America's Car Museum had lots to offer. Lots! The main floor of mint-condition vehicles is curated in decades giving some historical background. Several hundred other vehicles are presented in no particular order. The museum collection and surroundings are kept in pristine, well-lit condition, and films, children's interactives, and other activities are sprinkled throughout. There is a lot to see; plan at least 3 hours to take everything in. A large gift shop and a cafe complete the services.

Everyone had a great time.
I highly recomend it.
They have revolving displays so you could visit several times per year and see different themes.
I would check their website for current theme.

It was so cool to see such a fantastic collection of cars. Each level has a row of cars on each side of the room for you to see. As others have said, it is easy to spend 3 hours there. We thought we'd be there for 2 hours, but wound up being there for 3+ hrs. When I texted a photo of the DeLorean car to my brother, his response was the same as a man who was standing next to me--"Where's the flux capacitor?" There is also a huge collection of Honda motorcycles on one of the ramps between the levels. This was definitely worth the stop.

There are 4 levels of cars in this museum. We started up the right side (only looked at cars on that side) then came down the left side and did the same. They have a cafe with food and drinks and a nifty gift shop. You MUST see this museum of georgous cars.

I was skeptical and went for my hubby’s birthday. I’m not into cars and loved it! It’s much bigger than it looks with so much to see. It’s a fun day walking through memory lane. We will be visiting their other location at Marymount now too.

Tacoma is growing up. This museum is amazing. With collection that the LeMay's owned and restored is inspiring. A must see if you visit the area.

If you are interested in cars this is the place for you. Make sure you wear good shoes since there is a lot of walking to see all four levels. A great assessment of automobiles and all ages. Worth seeing

The last time I say the LeMay collection was back in 2006, when it was located at the old boy's school. There were an overwhelming number of cars back then.
The current collection is a curated sample of some significant autos. I particularly liked the "British Invasion" exhibit and the Flintmobile!

I've visited here twice. Got the free one-year membership via AAA.
This is a great museum for all ages. I took my dad here and I've been here with my spouse and kids. The museum was incredibly busy on a Sunday afternoon at 2PM. But the crowds seemed to diminish by 4PM.
This is a great place to bring guests from out-of-town.

This is a really exceptional collection of cars. Everything is well laid out. Plenty of room to walk around & enjoy everything. Exotic cars, & classic's as well as custom cars. There is a nice cafe although we did not eat there. A great place to spend a few hours.

Great nastalgia trip. Also found a lot that I did not know or remember of the past. A good way to see scientific evolution of the car in America. The ideas that evolved into reality. Also to see some items that I wished we still had.

What a fantastic place for a car buff to visit. As Packards were always one of my favorites marques, there is not shortage of them at LeMay - America's Car Museum. Jeremy, a volunteer at the museum, was our tour guide and was most knowledgeable taking us through the whole tour. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who has even the slightest interest in collectable cars of all types.

The Lemay museum is everything a gear head could want an more. I have been to the museum several times, and always for special events, so I have not been there during a normal day. However, with these events, I have had full access to the museum, and have put in many steps through the almost endless display. There are some features that I have not been privy to, such as the many children event & features. Why not a 5 you may ask? Because again, I have been here for special events, and in that vein, there is one significant thing that is lacking, and that is acoustics. They are awful. If you are planning on having an event with live music, or speakers, it's a tough venue. Other than that, it is pure perfection. If you are visiting, and want a great adventure that will satisfy the whole family (event those not that into cars) this museum is a must see on your to do list. You don't have to love cars and their history to appreciate the incredible displays.

I love museums but I am definitely drawn to those which have exhaustive and definitve collections of items dealing with a specific theme. The Le May collection is paradise for auto enthusiasts and particulary fine in respect of the design of the museum building itself which gives a well planned flow through the show enabling one to see clearly all the exhibits which are well supported by information panels .Often there are special shows which focus on a particular type of vehicle or individual marques.Mostly though the collection of American autos is spectacular.Fantastic widely imaginative chunks of metal sculpture which show close relationships to aircaft through extensive use of tail fins, curved glass and bomb shaped fenders. All exhibits are in prime condition and the collection must represent millions of hours of dedicated ,loving restoration work
There are a number of significant European models on show and these have often been th sublect of special exhibitions. I have visited several times and regard it as a highlight of my America vacations.
I like to make drawings as I walk around and have found the staff particularly helpful if I should need a chair

We visited the museum and had an enjoyable time viewing the old (and sometimes odd) cars. The history and stories behind the cars made the visit that much more enjoyable. The people at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful. We brought along my father-in-law who is 88 who loves cars and the cars here brought back fond memories of his childhood. The museum also chronicles the history of LeMay who spent decades in the area so you get a little local history too. The variety of cars is enough to keep anyone interested for a period of time. Particularly the unique ones. There is a free picture taking booth which is nice. Overall the visit was about 4 hours. If in the area I recommend.

I am not into cars. I never have been and I don’t really get the fascination with old cars. That being said, I LOVE the LeMay car museum. It’s interesting and informative. The views are spectacular. It’s a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.

This will be short...if you are a fan of the automobile...you gotta go. If you are not a fan of the automobile...you gotta go!

If you have even a passing interest in the history of cars in America you'll have a fantastic time here. An amazing display of autos from many eras. We spent a little over 3 hours viewing all four levels of the museum. Many rare makes and models on display.

Are you a lover of all things automobile? Do you smile when seeing many, many, many cars? Do you adore reading about each car’s tiny unique details? Does your brain tingle at the thought of “horsepower”? Is a perfect day one spent mentally kicking tires of vintage cars? Then this is the museum for you. I ooohed and aahed for the first couple dozen cars and then endured the next many dozen. It’s wonderful for true auto buffs, pleasant for most middle-of-the-roaders and mind numbing for the “Cars? Meh..” folks. Where are you in the automobile loving spectrum? Rate your car loving & decide!

It was really interesting, lots of old cars with lots of history. Also went to the one on military road.

America's Car Museum (ACM) appeals to people of all ages and interest levels because cars are part of our lives. But it can be frustrating to visit any museum if members of your party have very different interest levels. Those who want to linger to soak in all the details should not attend the first time with others who only have a nominal interest. The detail oriented "car guys" should go alone and plan on 4 hours of soaking in the appeal and intrigue of over 200 restored antique cars, true classics, ordinary cars of the 1920-1970 period, race cars of different genres, and special-interest cars of various eras. ACM has lavish displays to tell the varied themes of America's love of automobiles. Some of those displays are above the interest level of many folks. They can enjoy glancing at the colorful 10-12 foot wall displays, but not have interest to "take it all in." For true car Lovers, the ACM is a veritable feast to the eye and to the mind! ACM does have special "hands-on" displays for kids from 6 to 96! Like the nice old '29 Dodge roadster that anybody can sit in, try the gears, honk the horn, etc. Or the beautiful slot car track with miniature replicas of sports car racers. There's even a "pine wood derby" that my grandson, now 9, never tires of! He can stay for an hour running those gravity cars on the magnificent wooden track! There is a lot of walking, but elevators go between the floors for those who need a lift.
ACM is truly one of the premier car museums in North America. But the serious car guy should ALSO not miss the related old car museum, the LeMay Family Automotive Museum, in a suburb of Tacoma just 25 minutes from the ACM. It's less formal, less glamour, but has hundreds of terrific cars, motorcycles, trucks, and Americana on display every day!

This place is incredible. The Porsche 75 exhibit is mouth-watering and the old “horseless carriage” cars from the 1910s and 1920s were so incredible. The care put into maintaining and restoring this collection really shows. The path was easy to follow (all right turns walking from top to bottom, then all left turns going back up) but I did feel like there was a tendency to want to see the cars on the left side on the way down, too, since they seemed to be of similar vintage and make as the cars on the right. But, at the end of the day, saw all of it and the ramps down were nice and mellow. There’s a cafe up above the ticket area with decent coffee, plus food and snacks, but you cannot bring any of it down into the display area. Everything was clean, the staff was nice, and the view of Tacoma from the top was a neat add-on. Parking was easy and free. Highly recommended. Look for Earnhardt’s race car, the Flintstone movie mobile, and the Rockefeller car. We spent right at 2 hours here.

We visited the museum twice for the "Cars and Couture Fashion Show." This museum is a one of a kind experience you won't soon forget! The late Harold Lemay was the owner of a garbage company, and was the owner of all the cars featured in the museum. You will be mesmerized for hours looking all types of cars

This is a great collection of automobiles! A person could, (and should) spend hours here! The historical background is very interesting and informative.

a bit pricey but a lot of vehicles are worth seeing. not to busy so you dont feel rushed and for motor heads it is a must.

Nicely displayed, beautiful cars and interesting accompanying displays including simulator racing. Decent cafe on site, too. There was a nice display of Porsches immediately after passing through registration to celebrate the brand's anniversary.

You will be shocked by the number of vehicles in this museum. Upon entering, it doesn't seem so impressive, but don't be fooled! there are several levels to this museum and the cars are fabulous! Even if you're not a car buff, you will be amazed by the collection!

Very nice place and a great way to spend an afternoon. All kinds of cars, gift shop and cafe, loved the photo booth.

The very best thing about this museum---even better than the fantastic car collection---is (are?) the volunteers. They are friendly, welcoming, enthusiastic..they go out of their way to make sure guests have a great time. They made our visit to the museum great! Thanks, guys! And there are lots of activities for kids

My husband LOVES and knows a lot about cars. Me not so much! This place is so well laid out and not only does it have incredible cars from ALL eras of our history, but it has excellent history stories about all kinds of things that non-car lovers would be very interested in. Wish we had our grandkids with us as it had lots of things for them to do. I would definitely recommend a stop here and plan at least 2 hours. It is very, very interesting and very well laid out. Loved coming here.

This was far and away the best car museum I have ever seen. they had everything from horseless carriages to super cars. lots of history, my wife who is not into cars loved it as well, take 2.5 to 3 hours to fully enjoy it all!!

A little on the pricey side. A lot of different styles of cars that appeal to varied interests. Paying for parking is kind of well reaching in the pocket. Did enjoy it though and so did my family.

If someone said pick a car from this huge collection, & it's yours, I'd not be able to choose. SO MANY COOL RIDES! Every era & type is here. Terrific collection, & it changes regularly. There are educational walls & displays. One goes away impressed & informed.

I am a car fanatic. I have loved cars -- new and old -- for decades. The collection at America's Car Museum is outstanding. And I have visited the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, too. Each facility has its standout vehicles, but if you're visiting the Pacific Northwest, the LeMay collection is absolutely worth a visit for (at least a couple of) hours.

We visited the museum while visiting friends in Tacoma. We loved seeing all the cars. It was a great way to spend an hour or two. It was very well organized with different levels. We had a great time.

I'm not a huge car aficionado but I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. They have an extensive collection of cars from every decade, from various countries. We went through each exhibit and floor and found something fascinating about every one of various cars on display.
On one of the floors there is a friendly gentleman that will take your photo for free in an antique car. It was a nice little perk and we each got a print photo with the option to have it e-mailed to you as well.
The one annoyance was that this museum has its own dedicated private lot, yet they charge you for parking. Where else are you going to park if you don't use this lot? I didn't really see any alternatives so you are basically forced to pay the extra fee.

Fascinating display of so many classic cars! The artistry and sculpture-like beauty, especially of the old luxury vehicles, is amazing. It’s fun to get up close and examine the beautiful details. Only complaint is some of the lower ramp displays are packed in so tightly behind ropes, you can only see the front ends.

Well worth the visit. Make sure you have 4 or more hours to do it right. Steamers, NASCAR, Pierce Arrows, Bentley, Italian and German supercars. Wanted to pet the Ford GT. Four floors and many ramps full of 57 Chevys, Mustangs, Mopar. Too many to fully describe. Simulator to test you drivings skills. Great lunch place in-house to rest and snack. Fries to die for. Fun shopping for 50’s and 60’s gear in the shops.

We enjoyed our tour of the 5 levels of cars, the settings were great! You could walk around at your own pace and take as much time as you needed. The only thing I didn't like was having to pay for parking and the museum!

Talk about a kid in a candy store. The LeMay Auto Museum is just nirvana for everyone who loves wheeled transportation in all its beautiful, strange, weird and kooky forms. LeMay is located in Tacoma in a really interesting free-form wood laminated building overlooking the harbor and next to the freeway -- easy to get to. It's not over priced like some museums because you can easily spend an entire afternoon swooning over classic cars, sports cars, cars with vintage pedigree in addition to some motorcycles and even electrics. My recent visit featured a nice collection of post-WWII vehicles that represented the Eisenhower era of my youth. Studebakers, Kaisers, Hudsons, Packards, etc. all gleamed in their deserved spotlight. It was a kick in the pants to revisit the marques that are long gone but not forgotten,
The LeMay is definitely worth a detour. And, enjoy lunch in the museum cafe while you are at it. Parking is free.

Cool building. Four big floors of cars to see plus connecting ramps with more cars, motorcycles, bikes, trucks, etc. Some hands-on activities, not a lot. Not a lot of attempt made to put cars in context— mostly just a “parking lot” of cars. $18/adult to get in plus they charge $5 for parking.

LOTS of great old lovingly restored cars here. Unfortunately, most of them are backed in with a rope in front, so you can't walk alongside and check out the dashboard and other interior features.
A little on the pricey side, and it costs $5 to park your car to boot. I think that might have something to do with making a little extra from TacomaDome visitors that don't mind walking a few blocks for an event there.
Probably some of the people there are volunteers, which is fine but they should be screened for customer service skills. The front counter guy got frustrated when he had to repeat himself for me... So sue me, I have hearing loss.
A lot of work went into this museum, not to mention the original efforts of the LeMay family, so I am only knocking one star off, mainly because I want to see more car interiors, If they fix that we might visit again.

We did a private 3 hour tour and do not regret it. The gentleman was so knowledgeable about all the cars. The only regret we have is this is not the LeMay family's car museum. It is a privately run car museum WITH some cars from the LeMay family. I would do the family's museum if I had to do it over, but this was nice and we did grab a quick snack in their restaurant that was really good.

The Car Museum is a must visit for vintage car enthusiasts. The majority is American cars, but some European could be seen in very good condition.
The current BMW special, shows lots of historic personal and race cars.

Very impressively done museum with a fine collection of cars. The museum, very close to the Tacoma Dome, does an excellent job with the way the exhibits are displayed. Walking through this museum felt like getting a bird's eye view of the progress of America over the last century. After all, automobiles were a big cog in that wheel of progress!
They have a good collection of Honda motorbikes and European cars as well. And the way the exhibits are structured, you can not only see the cars of the different eras but you can actually sense the way they evolved - the design, exteriors, interiors, features etc. I especially loved the exhibit on the main floor where they had kept one vehicle representing each decade starting from 1910s, in gleaming condition and given a brief write up about the cars of that decade.
Must visit, especially if you are a car enthusiast! They have a good gift shop as well.

Wonderful place! Chock full of all kinds of cars, history, and memories. Many cars are in their permanent collection plus some on loan. We visit every few years and there is always something new. Good layout and plenty of rest stops. Small gift shop and free parking.

This place was great. Me and my adult son went. Spent the morning, had lunch at their restaurant. Food was great. It’s a great place to go back in time and bring back those great memories.

I'm not a real car buff BUT this museum is amazing. My husband is a retired firefighter and he was excited to see a 1921 beautifully restored fire truck. There is a lot of walking and slight inclines. I thought I might be bored but finding an occasional place to sit for a bit was helpful. It was a very nice family outing. The docents really knew their subjects. The bonus was getting our family picture taken in one of the older cars. We might use it for Christmas cards. Thanks to the docent that took the picture.
We were going to eat there but it was expensive for the cafeteria type food.

I honestly can’t even count how many times I’ve been here. Whether solo or with friends/family/kids. It’s always a fun experience. I am a car enthusiast. But even for the non enthusiast it is still a fun time. They rotate the top floors collection every other month. So there is some variety. A definite must if you are going through Tacoma

If you are a car crazy, you have got to visit the museum. It was an impressive array of car collections, old and sorta new. There were several floor (yes) filled to the brim but well arranged. They have a collection of motorcycles too and even British Invasion section. They have a cafe and a gift shop. We enjoyed our self-guided tour and highly recommend it.

1st Class Auto museum. High quality from the largest collection in the world. They had Lamborghinis and Ferraris out. An Austin Martin and some hot Mercedes too. Oh boy! They have a cafe and fine gift store. With a kid zone, it is well laid out.

This museum will take any American "Down Memory Lane", with the vast array of automobiles from every era, the "interactive fun" that is available for ALL AGES, and the amazing "Over-the-Top Service from the staff there. It is definitely a MUST EXPERIENCE for anyone, either visiting or local!!

My husband is a big car buff so we visited this museum and he was not disappointed. Since I am really not into cars, wasn't sure what to expect but it was definitely worth the stop. The cars are vintage and in immaculate shape. There is a lot of history to be found here. I thought the wall display on Route 66 was very fascinating. It does involve quite a bit of walking so be prepared. You go down one side ( 5 floors) and up the other. Pretty neat to see.
Inside summer fun
Friendly greeters gave advance suggestions for a through and fun filled visit. A surprise was waiting a couple of floors below that was a thrill for the youngsters as well as myself, young at heart. Loved the free photo opt in the old car. Dinner was also hot, delicious, and a good price. With "RA", loved the occasional benches provided for a moments rest. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
