This is a nice park, if it isn't 100 degrees outside. The flies were huge and all over. The kids ages 7 and 9 couldn't even play. Next time we will go a different time of year.

We live on this peninsula and see the park regularly while boating past. I drove into the park this week for an errand and had forgotten that it gets you up close to the train trestle that crosses the mouth of Powell's Creek into the Potomac River. It's a beautiful waterfront location.

Leesylvania State Park has become our go to spot to launch our boat into the Potomac. There has always been plenty of parking and so far never a wait at the boat ramp, which there are two of by the way. Facilities at the marina are nice and well maintained by staff. If you visit state parks a lot to go boating look into getting a yearly pass. Saves you money in the long run if you go often.

The park is clean and very family oriented. A big draw for sports, competitions, picnics, etc. Appears to be safe, has many engagements. I've been many times for family events. A very nice park.

There are great trails in Leesylvania. Some are in the popular area by the pier but the best are on the other side of the park by the entrance. Our favorite is the trail from Neabsco Road to Powell's Creek. Lots of ups and downs with beautiful views.

This is one of prince Williams hidden gems that is fun for he entire family. The park has been around for many years and will stand for a lot more. Great fun near the water along with restaurant you can taste the local food.

This is the best park...ever! The fishing pier may be a bit small but you can always catch something! The children loved the playground and the picnic area has numerous seating areas. We rode our bikes and went around this beautiful park while some family members just sat down near the water and relaxed.

Wonderful, wonderful State Park. Well equipped and maintained. For the cost of admission, A SUPER GREAT VALUE. A must visit Park.

It is sorta small but considering it is located right here in Woodbridge you would expect that... We go there to hike and watch the boats! It is clean with picnic areas and space to fish from the bank. Has plenty of parking and a d cent boat launch and landing area. I buy the State Park and National park pass each year and we go often!

Beautiful park. Has a small beach. Boat tours available. We just people watched and enjoyed the day. Popular place to launch your boat.

Leesylvania Park is a very good state park, it has a number of good well marked hiking trails, kayak rentals, a Park Ranger guided kayak float and an excellent boat ramp and dock. There is a store to buy those last minute food and drink (non-alcoholic).

A really nice, relaxing park on the Potomac. A nice playground for the kids and don't forget the civil war entrenchments at the top of the hill.

One of the 1st parks I had the opportunity to visit when I 1st moved to Northern Virginia. Park is well maintained, has amply parking for boat trailers and two loading docks.

In a nutshell, it is a quiet, peaceful park in which one can have a relaxing and family oriented afternoon. It is not a big park, but it is great for a nice BBQ by the water. For more details, read below.
There are several areas within the park which will dictate the most appropriate activities to indulge in. There is a pole fishing area, pretty apart from others as to avoid any hazards, there is a little playground for kids (8 and below). A green area for throwing a football or just a picnic and a nice area for waling or for kids to ride their bikes.
The park has several trails to walk through and at the right time and season, deers are easily spotted. It has a pretty big area to park your vehicle and trailer while you take your boat out for a great time. It also has a modest camping site next to the water ramp.
There is also a small museum which is also the first aid area and the best way to contact the staff.
Do not expect a big place. But if you like quiet, peaceful and relaxing afternoon, this is a good place for it. If you are also looking for a good ramp from where to launch your boat, this one is quite convenient and spacious.

Our church rented a pavillion at this park in the fall to hold our annual church picnic. We had a nice large, clean pavillion near the river with restrooms a playing field nearby. Everyone, young and old had a great time. The staff was helpful and efficient.

Leesyvania State Park is a great atmosphere for family fun, with hiking, boating and just hanging out by the shore line.

Amazing view. great place to take photos for natural looks. beach view and great time for relaxation.

Just east of rt95 at exit 156, this park has picnic tables plenty of open space, a dock for fishing(need license) and a small boat ramp. Just 5$ to enter per car. Fun without having to go too far

Leelsylvania State Park isn't huge, but it is big enough to have a whole range of attractions. A boat ramp, hiking trails, nature center, fishing areas, and a pier are just some of the things here. If you're looking for a quick getaway from the crowded parts of the suburbs, this is easy to access and has plenty to do. Sitting on the banks of the Potomac the views are great. A railroad trestle crosses over a corner of the park for train enthusiasts, multiple trails varying from very easy to moderate are available. The ones on the river side of the railroad tracks are sometimes crowded, but the ones on the entrance side are much less frequently used. There are a number of geocaches located inside the park if you're interested in that. As another reviewer mentioned it can sometimes get a little crowded, but usually not unpleasantly so. On occasion there will be some type of event going on that will cause it to be more crowded than usual, so check their web site before you go.

I guess because I live so close to it I am not so impressed with it. They are easy hiking trails. Beautiful views of the water. However there is nothing that really wows me about it. To me it's just another average state park.

This park has a variety of places to eat. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. The water scenes Are fun.

This is a lovely park with beautiful waterfront views. Great for hiking and or picnics with the family. Check out the visitor's center for neat information and projects for kids

This is a nice state park with easy parking, decent bathrooms and nice picnic areas. There are marked hiking trails and a pier going into the river. The historical information available made the visit more fun. Good for a couple hours of light hiking and having lunch.

These are nice, fairly easy trails. The boardwalks are well-constructed over the marsh areas. Cormorants, herons and egrets good, excellent belted kingfisher fun! Dozens! A juvenile bald eagle hunting the river. The train schedule is very busy but most birds ignore. Bushes trail a little too close to the road for comfort. Bring deet and suntan lotion!

Whether it is the river you want to access or just spending the day hiking and picnicing Leesylvana State Park is a place to go. There are hiking paths, a small museum with historic relics and also a place to launch your boat or fish. Fun place for the family or on a date with your favorite hone.

This park is on the shore of the Potomac river. There is a fishing pier in the park that lets you walk out on the river about 20 feet. Since Maryland owns the Potomac river to the low tide when you walk on the board walk you are in Maryland. The trails are fun and easy. There is a boat ramp and in season there is a snack bar.

We came here with dogs that we were training and it was kinda a misty day but I still really enjoyed this place. Such a great view and seems like a great place to explore. Wish I had more time to visit on a nicer day!

I've been to Leesylvania State Park twice since moving to Virginia from South Florida. I'm a park person and I find Leesylvania a very peaceful park. Several walking trails, a great lake and boat launch area, a beach (sandy shoreline) and playground area for the kids. There is also an indoor small museum, restrooms and information center. My granddaughters love the beach and playground. They could stay there all day. I've only been there on the weekends and the park does fill up, but there is lots of space for everyone.
There is an admission fee to enter the park which also covers parking. I will definitely go again with or without my granddaughters.

I thought it was very pretty , reminded me of the ocean . On the day we went ther were a lot of white caps. It wasn't crowded as some of the other reviewers have stated, but we went on a sunday in October. The visitors center sold candy , even swiss chocolate--so right away I give a 5 star rating !! Will definately be going back.

Great place to launch your boat, catch a charter to Tims Rivershore, or jet ski. Quite busy during Memorial Day weekend!

The hubby and I decided to ride here on a Sunday afternoon. Was shocked that we had to pay just to get in lol. It is a small state park that is located on the Potomac bay. It had picnic areas but they are all bunched together and it is one way in and one way out. Additionally, they had to boat ramps and there were a lot of people out on their boats and Sea Doos! Would visit again in the fall when the crowds die down

Fishing? Picnicking? Trail walking? Swimming? Boating? History? Camping? Then you should visit Leesylvania State Park, one of the nicest parks in the Woodbridge, VA area. There is a fishing pier and along the shore line. Fishing licenses are required. Picnic pavilions, tables and grills are found throughout the park and offered on a first-come, first-served basis unless a reservation has been made for a particular one (daily rental charge). Playgrounds are near the picnic table area complete with a large sandbox. Several trails are located within the park including a trail that parallels the Potomac River and a Wildlife Habitat Trail. There are no designated swimming areas and signs posted warn swimmers of swift currents, drop-offs, etc. A large boat launch area can found in the park with ample vehicle parking. There is a store located n the dock area where one can rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and sailboats. For the history buff, there are numerous historical markers. An interesting fact is this point of land was once the home of an amusement park complete with a swimming pool. Those who like primitive camping won’t be disappointed as the park has a small, tents-only camping area. The Visitor Center was closed when we were there but from what I have read it houses historic and natures displays and a gift shop. Rangers offer programs throughout the season including pond exploration and osprey observation. Check their web page for dates and times. Daily parking fees are $4 for weekdays, $5 for weekends and $7 for prime season weekends and holidays for in-state vehicles. In a word, this is a fantastic park!

It may appear a little bit out of the way, but it is worth a short drive away from the Potomac Mills Mall. It is a small park, but has nice well marked walking trails and picnic areas. Being down on Neabsco creek has a good calming effect as soon as you turn off Route 1.

Great place under a pavilion to have a company picnic! We used the grills next to the pavilion and the bathrooms were not far. Also plenty of parking and a great view of the river.

Love this little nature getaway on the Potomac. It's a hidden gem that many residents of the County don't even know exists. Fine by me as then the hiking trails aren't crowded. We love that they offer fishing tournaments for kids each month. Great place for the family to enjoy time outdoors together.

I did the 2mile hike a few weeks ago. Gorgeous birds eye view of the Potomac River. Lots of historic ruins and markers. We got to see some bald eagles and deer. Yesterday I went fishing with my son. Unfortunately it was extremely windy and our free time was short. Some others still were lucky enough to catch some large catfish. Still I enjoyed being on the nice pier that juts out into the water. Nice that it is close to home.

I may not have picked the best day to visit Leesylvania State Park to do a hike as it was the hottest day of the summer thus far, but it allowed me to have the trail to myself. During the summer and holidays it costs $7 per car to get into the park, but it is very well maintained and things are clearly marked. I parked near the picnic area and walked over to the Lee's Woods Trailhead. While the trail guides were locked up, I was still able to follow the path and read all the signs to get the history of the trail. There were some nice vistas and a lot of history on the trail, sharing the history of the Lee and Fairfax families. It was a great hike, but be warned: cover yourself in bug spray as they are very bad on this trail.

Leesylvania State Park is a somewhat obscure park in Woodbridge that has a little history along hiking trails, fishing and boating....but perhaps the biggest draw is that it is situated along an impressively expansive body of water...the confluence of two rivers that stretch out for over a mile it seems. There is a cliff overlooking the water with a very picturesque view, and even a little miniature sandy beach.

Love this park! How lucky am I to have this park near my house... that park isn’t free, so better to have an annual pass if you plan to go very often. In this park you can hike in the forest, you can walk in the sand beach, or you can make a picnic. There are many tables, have a nice clean restrooms, playground for kids. Also you can find some historical places by hiking which is very interesting... very nice visitor center with historic information about this park. Hope you come here and enjoy the same I do;)

Great place serving the Woodbridge area. Right On the water. Safe, fun and no weird activities. Police presence and park patrols keep it under control.

We brought our lunch and ate near the playground (where you can also see the water and watch the boats). Then we kicked off our shoes on the beach and jumped in. My kids have been begging to go to the beach and this is the most cost effective way to please them and spend that day off work instead of in front of the tv. This was our 3rd time and we all get a chuckle over crossing the pier into Maryland. I love the history, a sign tells you all about how the park used to be about catching a boat on Maryland side to gamble and drink when it was illegal in VA. If you only have 1 day off and need a memorable day trip, this is it (took our 2 young kids and 2 dogs).

Nice place for a hike or walk. There is a fee for the park, so may want it to be a longer stop. Lots of picnic areas and a nice playground.

We love this park. We have gone here several times recently as my brother picks us up on his boat here. The park is very nice. The little restaurant makes the best sandwiches and it's great to just relax on the benches and watch the water.

Very natural park, huge parking area, many BBQ areas, nice and cozy beaches, great wildlife. Great place to relax for the weekend.

Spectacular Views by the water. Space galore to have a picinic without feeling you are on top of people. Fishing did I say Fishing yes go out on the rocks and just relax. Away from the hustle and bustle of D.C. is this Oasis.
I visited the park in 2010 (no selectio for 2010 when I first found the park). Then moved and settled here in Woodbridge 2011. There is nothing like being here and living with nature. Deer, Possums, Raccoons, Eagles, Hawk, and Buzzards ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Coming from NY I am in HEAVEN!!!!!!
If you come to visit please respect the Park keep it CLEAN!!!!

Loved our morning walk along this trial. Plenty of shade for the baby in the stroller. We heard this pair of Ospreys before we saw them.

Went for a hike and learned a lot of history in the process. Looking for a place to wander for a bit, then stop here

I may be the oldest of the Mommies in my family - however, we now have multiple moms...so we gathered all and their children; rented the large pavilion; grilled burgers and dogs and roasted corn..and each family brought a meat, side and drinks. The pavilion's location was PERFECT..close walking distance to the pristeenly kept restroom facility..and parking also. The cost per vehicle is more than reasonable and the site is waterfront too! It was a glorious day weather wise and even the allowed-on-leash family doggies had a ball! We played lawn games and card games. The park was well attended by US Park officials [who were friendly and helpful] so safety was not an issue. Not a thing was missing and in the end it was better than amassing all of us at a restaurant ♥

There is a reason this is the #1 state park in Virginia. I went for a hike this weekend and besides finding excellent trails and clean bathrooms, there were also paw paws there.

Lots to do here - boat dock, picnic, hike, fish, bird watch, enjoy water views and historic sites, and even shop at small store.

This is a great park to visit. I was there on 7/27/13 for a picnic and the admission charge was $5.00 per vehicle. The picnic was held under one of the biggest shed in the park and the kids had enough space to play. There are paddle boats to rent and the park police were all over the place making sure everyone is safe. This is a great place for group gatherings and relaxation

This park is beautiful and offers the Woodbridge Sailing School. I took a sailing lesson and had a wonderful time! The boat launch is available for motor craft and there are restrooms next to the launch.

I love to go barbecue here it's by the water, there's lots of trees for shade, you can put out the Hamock.

This is a great park if you're looking to just get outside. Pretty scenes and wading along the river, and a few short trails throughout the park. They have a fitness trail as well, although I have never used it. Great place for gatherings, as well as seeing wildlife (I have seen deer, eagles, and osprey).

Nice place for a day or a birthday party, Wonderful water views of the bay

It's a nice way to spend a Saturday morning with family. Enjoying the views and the natural surroundings. There is an area for children to play and swing and trails for those that want to hike.

We were looking for a nice spot to picnic with a view and reasonable fees. We took advantage of one of the first warm weekdays and sat outside in the sun at the gas pier for a bit taking in the bay, the views, and a little bird watching. Fees are reasonable and the area is well kept and we will be going back this weekend to take pictures and enjoy another warm day. The location easy to reach by major roadways. It took us 15 minutes to get there from Potomac Mills Mall.

Leesylvania is a little gem of a park. Almost within city limits proper, yet you feel you are deep in the hills. Lots of large, covered picnic facilities as well as open-air spots and tables. We have attended many a family, church and Scout events here, and there always seems to be open areas for "drop-ins" among the reserved areas.
Sits right on the Potomac. Nice "wharf" and boating area, including ramps. Sheltered pier area, but I don;t know about overnight facilities for boaters. Plenty of convenience stores and gas stations within 5 minutes' drive for last minute supplies and "OOPS! forgot the ice!"
Wildlife is a plenty...you will see deer rather often.
Fishing is allowed from the wharf.
Several good eatieries such as Tim's Rivershore Crabhouse and chain restaurants if you burn the burgers.
Swimming and jet-skis are allowed.
Entrance fee is reasonable.
OUTSTANDING spot for watching fireworks on 4th of July, or Tim's Rivershore Annual "Not On The 4th" fireworks...almost an hours' worth of spectacular show, given the weekend PRECEDING the 4th. The river is FILLED with spectator boats.
Rangers make regular rounds. Safe and Secure.
Nearby attractions include the Marine Corps Museum (free...open year-round except for Christmas Day) just 5 miles south on Route 1.
For train buffs, there is a large trestle bridge crossing Neabsco bay. The former Richmond, Fredricksburg and Potomac RR mainline, it is now CSX, AMTRAK and VIRGINIA RAILWAY EXPRESS traffic that comes by about every 5-10 minutes.

Nice park, close by to where I live. There are nice beach areas (if you dare to get into the Potomac). Also, typically can see turtles in a pond.

We head over to Leesylvania at least once a month or so to do a little hiking along the bay shore... Sometimes I ride my bike over and sit at the pier watching the boats come and go... Very peaceful! I do the yearlong State Park Pass...

Spacious, clean, and quiet. The park has nice views of the water, watching passing river boaters is particularly interesting.

What can I say? It's a state park. There's a cool amphitheater that's in ruins there and you'll also find some historic cannons while hiking. Virginia is beautiful so go on a nature hike here and enjoy the scenery.

Great little state park on the shores of the Potomac about 30 miles south of DC.
Also known as Freestone Point, it was the birthplace of Revolutionary War hero Lighthorse Harry Lee, who became governor of Virginia and sired Gen Robert E Lee. The CSA also had a small gun emplacement here during the Civil War to harass Union ships. Well-marked trails lead to all the historic sites. Or just hang out by the river in an amazingly undiscovered gem of a park.

I kayak here frequently. Great place. No charge to put in at the park. Beautiful area. You can paddle from the park to Tim's Rivershore Restaurant if you want to eat lunch there and paddle back (about 3 miles one way)

Wonderful spot to hang out with family and friends. Little store where you can purchase a fishing license and food. Nice facilities and hiking trails.

We love to take our dog for a swim at this park. The water and beach are clean. Picnic tables are in the shade and the breeze is lovely. We also like to go in the winter and sit by the fire. If you like to walk there is a trail that goes through the wood, lots of history too.

This was my first visit to the park near the trailer parking for boats. The beach areas were closed to swimming, but you were still allowed to walk on the beach. I brought my two dogs with me and others did as well. A great area to have a picnic or just walk the trail that pararelles the waters edge. It was enjoyable even though you had to practice social distancing.

What a hidden surprise plenty of family space with a small beach for little kids swimming lots of area for picnics with friends family. Nice hiking trails historic area

Leesylvania State Park is my favorite place to "cool out" by the river watching all types of boats, or get my exercise on by walking or riding my bike. Sometimes I even fish. When I have friends coming for the weekend, we spend one day at the Park, regardless if it's cold or hot. It's just a beautiful place.

Great for families as it has relatively more amenities, facilities and parking than other area parks.
Walk up the hill to the Lee Family Estate for a surprise and reinforcedment of the message that the victors re-write history!
Small nature museum
Fishing Pier
Boat Dock
Boating Gas Station
Convenience Store
Guided Tours - conducted by park employees
Extensive playland for small children
Soda Vending Machines
Ice Cream sold near fishing Pier during summer months
Bathrooms - running water and average cleanliness

This amazing park is so close to us in Dumfries,VA I can't believe we hadn't visited sooner. We like to walk and this park has two main trails that are excellent. Great views. Interesting history. Various events are held so it's a good idea to keep up with them on the website.

My family decided to spend the Fourth of July weekend together at the park. We were blessed to find the last grill available. We grilled and splashed around in the river. The kids love going to Leeslyvania.

This is just so park goers know that you pay to go in
and the road inside the park is long and if you miss the sign that says 25 m.p.h. which I did. I was going a little over 35 m.p.h. which is the speed limit of the road right before you go in and pay to get in park. I have not been back.
I have never had a speeding ticket in my life before or after this incident. I go to a park to relax not to have a park ranger set up a speed camera and give me a speeding ticket.

Brought our boys here to walk the trails and it was great we could bring our dog. Great views of the water, little exercise stations and really well maintained. We had fun. Needs a bathroom though.

Bring the kids. A chance to learn and hike to and stand on history. Really nice picknic and play grounds. Fairly safe for bicycling and walking, share the road. Lots of hiking trails, not much off road for bikes. All, types of boating, I don't recommend swimming, people do. I used to ride in year round on my on my bicycle all the time, no charge.

Nice park, can get crowded and parking can be scare. It’s cool on the river. Lots of families picnicking we go pretty regularly.

We visited this place on Mothers Day around 4pm and there was no place to even park. If it hadn't been so busy I think it would be a very lovely place. You do pay a fee to enter the park but it wasn't much. We finally found a spot to park and have a picnic and it ended up being very lovely! GET THERE EARLY and you will be fine.

Nice Place to have a party or cookout. You can rent a gazebo and have a nice time. Good place to hit some golf balls.

Always plenty of parking. Beautiful for walking, fishing, and hiking. Food for sale in the spring and summer months is nice.

For having such a long coastline along the Potomac, Prince William County for years had little access to the River. Leesylvania goes a long way now in making that up. When we've visited, it's been fairly uncrowded, which is nice in increasingly crowded NOVA. Lots of picnic tables and walking trails are the attractions for us. Also, this is an historic site from Colonial times and the Civil War (Confederate batteries were based here to blockade river traffic to Washington).

I honestly live 10 minutes from this place, and didn't know it existed! I came here to enjoy nature and listen to the waves crash on the sand. I'm looking forward to it warming up so I can try the bike trails. Highly recommend this low key get-away

Hidden secret that we have a beach in nova. But there is an admission fee. This is a pain, but also keeps the beach clean and less crowded. So I have mixed feeling about it. Awesome walking trails with intermittent exercise stations along the way. The only thing is I would not feel safe using the trails alone because they are heavily wooded. Small convenience store on parkland and a small historical museum as well.

When is the water going to be safe to eat the fish?
No where to rent boats. Cost is high to get in.
Lots of out of town-ers. You can never find a table or place to sit. To many people. Trashy around the water and table areas. This place is a mess. Close to home and cannot use it because of the crowds.

We take our boat out at this park. It has a great boat ramp. There are a number of people who visit here and are all friendly.

When I want to go for a quick hike near my home, I like to go to Leesylvania State Park. I never get tired of the views along the trails as well as the wildlife I often see. It’s a great stress release and good exercise. The park is only 5 miles from my house which makes it very convenient.

I enjoyed paddling here on a recent Saturday. There’s a nice floating dock for kayaks (bring your own on car top) at Bushey Point. Saw plenty of ospreys and other birds, and the railroad bridge over the water is cool. Also noticed the fishing pier, snack bar, and Lee historic hiking trail, including a civil war gun site. Pretty cool escape close to DC.

Leesylvania is a great state park with hiking trails, rental kayaks and fantastic guides. There is a boat dock and launch facilities. Guided tours are also provided.

My husband and I visited this park one afternoon for a picnic with our daughter. It was a bit windy which might have hampered our enjoyment a little. The park itself is nice and clean, good walking paths and a beautiful view of the river. There's a good amount of picnic tables and facilities for children. We were dissapointed that it cost $5.00 to park. I had never visited before so didn't want to risk buying a seson pass. The season pass does work out to be much better value. But I thought a $5.00 fee. Considering it was already the afternoon was a bit steep.

Beautiful views on the water, lots of hiking through wooded paths to scenic overlooks, very dog friendly!

Accidentally stumbled across this gem when I went exploring last week. Was so surprised to find such a beautiful location 10 minutes from my home. There is a visitor center, store, picnic area, amphitheater, boat launch and lots of hiking trails. I look forward to coming back and doing some of the hikes. There are a few historical areas too although I didn't get out to them on my initial visit. I did the hike along the river and it was just peaceful and beautiful.

Nice playground, pleasant walking trails, picnic pavilions and tables, benches by the waterfront, gorgeous views of the bay/river. Freestone point is a nice, short uphill hike with lovely views of the water. My husband proposed to me on that hill! :)

We have been visiting Leesylvania State Park 2-3 times a year for the past 30 years. There are a lot of hiking trails, a fishing pier, programs for kids, free summer concerts, and much more. We particularly like their Halloween program.

This is my favorite place to go on a nice day. The trails along the river and through the woods are filled with all manner of wild life. The picnic area is a clean and happy place for a family gathering or just a quiet place to have lunch along the river. There's a fishing pier on which you can "walk to Maryland", beaches, boat launch and historic plantation ruins hearkening back to old Prince William County. If you're a bird watcher - this is the place for you and if you do Pokemon Go, there are lots of stops. The nature station is small but filled with great information.

The tranquility of the visit, the park personnel was very interactive. The history shared was interesting to learn about.

I go here several times per week to walk my dog. On weekends with good weather, the picnic areas are very crowded. However, there are lots of paths through other areas of the park for walks/hikes through the woods.

This place is a little gem. It is great to feel like I am at the beach.
Do be careful to pay the parking fee before you wander off to have fun. I got to the visitor's center and it was closed and forgot about the fee. Got a ticket for more than three times what it would have cost if I had tracked down where to pay. I'm not sure where that is but be careful.

The kids did enjoy the park; with the playground, BBQ picnic w/ friends, and the sand. But the water is very dirty, and it looks disgusting. That is my concern-the bathroom is dirty also

Leesylvania has almost everything you would want in a state park -- beautiful waterfront, winding hiking trails, a bit of local history, playgrounds, and plenty of space for field games, picnics, and barbecues.

Nice family park and beach area to bathe and jet ski. You can barbecue. Picnic tables available, awesome view Of the riverside.

Love this state park, it has tons of wildlife, great for all age's, tot lots, turtle pond, fishing pier, walking trails, boat ramp, picnic tables are everywhere.

Love this place. Lots to see and watch. Quiet when needed. Places for parties and pinics. Boating available. Wonderful programs.

Nice place to visit for many types of activities. There are many paths & woods to hike on. There is a boat/canoe ramp. Paddle wheel boats are available for rent. There is a restaurant with a great view. This is a State park owned by Virginia. There is an admission charge, but there are may discounts available. The body of water within the park is the Potomac river. There are covered & non-covered picnic areas. Plenty of parking spaces. Adequate restroom facilities. There are tours of the area available. The land of the park was once home to American Indians, not sure which tribe(s).

Living less than 1 miles from this state park, we've not gone very often. The few times we have, we've used it to watch the "Not the 4th of July" fireworks from Tim's Rivershore. We avoid the crowds but get a great display. The trails are nice. The lack of a beach and swimming area is a definite negative (ok...there's a beach but no swimming. Really?). The park is well kept.

A lovely spot for a quick hike to take the edge off stress off. The longest trails are approximately 2 miles long. The walks become informative historical walks as there are markers along the way that explain the history of the Lee family's estate and historical significance. The views of the Potomac are enchanting regardless of the season. The visitor's center has exhibits that will interest kids about the local wildlife and of course, if you are lucky enough, you can encounter critters of all kinds but mostly butterflies or deer. This place can get crowded on holiday weekends due to the convenient access to 2 boat ramps and covered picnic areas that are popular for reunions and church group outings. Enjoy!

There are great views at the waterfront, nice relaxing picnic eating areas and it's a great place to spot birds. We recently kayaked out of this park with a group of friends and had a wonderful paddle. We have also used the picnic areas in the past. We always enjoy this park. It's popular.

This is a great place to hike. Some hills, a beautiful view of the Potomac and some Va. history...Robt E. Lee’s grandparents lived here in the 1700’s and George Washington came up the Potomac from Mt. Vernon to visit.
Remains of the Lee home were destroyed but you still get a good sense of how isolated the colonists were.
Easy to moderate hike that most able bodied folks and older kids can do. About 30-40 minutes from Arlington/ Alexandria Va.

Our family has been here numerous times for Cub Scout day camp, family picnics, fun in the sun in the sand by the Potomac, geocaching, camping, canoeing, and hiking. VSPs are usually a great place to visit at a great price and this park is no exception.

This was my first time at this State Park and I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon here. What exceptional, knowledgeable, and helpful folks that I got to meet today inside the Visitor Center! I enjoyed the conversation with them about the local history and in-depth knowledge of the in-house residence’s living in the aquariums! I hiked the trails and placards are placed giving information about the parks history and the Lee family. Families were enjoying the picnicking grounds and the Potomac River. I also got to watch the sailing skills of quite a few sailboats navigating on the Potomac River. Also, I was able from a respectful distance observer Ospreys flying into it’s nest and bringing fish to it.

My son (2 1/2 yo) and I came here as part of Virginia State Park's "First Day Hike" event. Parking was free, but normally there is an entrance fee. We drove to the main area of the park not realizing there are actually quite a few hiking trails before reaching the end of the road. The park is well maintained, clean, and has several real bathrooms in the beach/picnic areas. We hiked part of Lee Wood's trail which my son did really well on and would recommend for beginner hikers. The park has two playgrounds and a "beach" which is great for little kids. Definitely would come back in the summer to enjoy more of the trails and warmer temperatures.

I went here to go for a walk. It is a nice park and, for me, the best part was being along the Potomac River. For you Civil War enthusiasts, there are remnants of Confederate earthworks in the park near the pavilions along the river. Overall a nice little park to go for walk and enjoy nature.

Family and I decided to tour this park after realizing that it's less than 10 minutes from our location. There was a $4 entry fee for our vehicle (no military pass available). The park was nicely manicured, and the views of the Potomac were really pretty. Several osprey nests were fairly close by, and a couple even had some older fledglings. Nice historical podiums here and there. The park itself is not very large, less than 600 acres. So if you're looking for deep woods and long trails, probably not going to find it here. It was a little smelly in several areas (most likely from the heat ripening the trash). There are some great picnic areas and nice short hiking paths. A great place to relax near the river.

This park is awesome! Just driving through it, we saw a HERD of deer grazing along a hillside. We counted 26 deer in that one group. The boat launch area is great, as is all the picnic areas and hiking trails as well. This is one of my favorite parks to visit.

I have loved this park since the 1980s. It has a wonderful cliff, winding trails by meadows and the river. An interesting history that dates back to the 1960s with a casino boat and amusement park that unfortunately didn't make it and the land became a state park. It has an amazing marina and fishing pier as well as a lovely little beach. I so love this park!!!!

We enjoyed Leesylvania State Park as we were visiting the area and it was nice to take a break to walk around. We noticed it was very crowded by the river and there were a lot of families around one area. We walked along the river and got to enjoy a bit of nature.

Best freshwater fishing with a boat! If you own your own craft, pull up to the boat ramp and drop it off, tie off, park and go! The locals are very friendly and helpful, fishing is great and the price is good for a season pass. Single day is $10. Recommend to anyone who likes fishing.

The park has a nice beach area for you to picnic and play. I also use it to walk the trails. The area is so beautiful. During the summer the weekends are often extremely quiet, so go during the week or early weekend mornings.

Good place to go on the weekend and spend some time fishing or BBQ. only downside is that they charge to get into the park

Lovely waterfront park. Would benefit from classes in watersports like paddling. Trails are great too and could be highlighted and marked further.

If you are planning to come on a holiday, you better be there earlier. The park get crowded really fast. Ambient and the lake are nice. Especially if you have jet sky or a boat.

Virginia has done amazing work to bring this 78 acre gift to its citizens. With facilities for boat launch including small sail boats, on shore fishing, hiking, picnicking with grills and covered tables, river shore beaches (no swimming) for relaxation Leesylvania is a bargain. Oh, don't forget the history from aboriginal inhabitants to dreams of contemporary amusement parks this place is well worth the visit for fun, exercise and thinking of Virginia's past.

The park is clean. It was busy Sunday but lots of places for everyone. Lots of people with dogs. Kids can play on the "beach". If you new in East Coast, check yourself and the children for ticks if you walked in grass area. I found a tick on my leg.

Very nicely kept up Park. Young gentlemen at entrance way was very helpful and gave lots of info before even entering park.
Loads of trails. Picnicking areas to choose from, a "Visitor shopping area", boat parking /l aunch area (Fee) , and a park store I believe it was located at Boat Launch Area. Visitor Center is before you get that far down.
There is NO swimming at this Park! You can wade and sunbathe and it is a nice park but that is a huge drawback for some.

Leesylvania has never disappointed- it's not a humongous park bit it's got plenty space for all types of activities. They have covered pavilions for large groups or parties, stand alone grills, and tot lots. They even have water access, fenced areas as well as areas for hiking through the woods. If you're lookong for a evening activities get away or a break from 95 and Rte 1 traffic stop in. It's plenty shaded areas to relax in and rest your toes for a little while

i liked it because my dog is a fish buttermilk, if only there was a dragon to go fighting with then i would defeat the princess and eat more snow cakes for breakfast hehehe. no swag

Perfect location to get away from the constant rush in Northern Virginia. Close to homes in the community but away from it all. Extremely well maintained and has something for everyone

When we arrived at Leesylvania the skies opened up and it rained almost the entire time. Thankfully, we packed umbrellas and shoes to puddle jump but that still didn't allow for us to enjoy everything the park has to offer. We ventured out onto the pier so we could say we walked to Maryland and checked out some of the historical markers on site. The railroad crossing through the park was something unique to Leesylvania and we even got to see a couple of trains cross the river. Definitely a park we'd like to return to to check out the trails.

The park is located on the river and has boating access and nice picnic areas with playgrounds. Additionally, there are hiking trails that weave through the historical parts of the park. It is busy, especially on nice weather days.

Nice park to spend an afternoon, lots to do and has just about everything. A few good trails for hiking or just walk down the easy path next to the river with a few historic markers. Decent pier for fishing, small beach area on the left side of pier (good for dogs to play in), pretty long beach area on the right of the pier (no swimming allowed). Plenty of tables and bbq pits for the cookout with bathrooms conveniently located not too far away. Volleyball court and big playground for the kids. There are a few pavilions for large groups (need reserved way in advance). Plenty of trees for shade, but also plenty of branches on the floor. Park also has a boat launch and camping available. If your looking for a park in the Woodbridge area this is the one to go to.

Nice park with a beautiful view and a small beach. Good for picnic , fishing , camping . It had no outlets for food and drinks so carry along with you .

The park had a beautiful atmosphere and it was very relaxing. We will definitely be going back next year!

Serene, breathtaking views and trails with docks for fishing and water-play. Proposed to my wife here. :)

This is where I have my two little sailboats stored, so I'm there at least a few times a week. It's a superb park, well kept and very pleasant indeed. And, if you"re interested in learning to sail or rent a REAL sailboat (not some tippy little skiff, but a 20-something footer), then the great folks of Woodbridge Sailing School are right there near the launch ramps. They'll even show you how to sail your own boat, if, like me, you've picked up a "trailer-sailed", but aren't real sure how's to best use it.

Shaded picnic areas, abundant parking, and trail access at this riverfront state park. Take bug spray for the trails. The park is accessible from I-95, so it could be a good alternative to eating at a fast food place if you pack a lunch.

This is a stunningly beautiful park situated on the banks of the Potomac River, just a short distance from D.C. This park has lots to offer aside from its natural beauty. Plenty of water sports available. Boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and more. We took a short hike along the river to the pier just to see what we could see. Well what we saw were beautiful vistas! We also picniced near the playground. Thankfully, the tables were in the shade, because it was a very hot and humid day. The visitor center was closed for some reason, so we didn't get to see what it had to offer. The Breakwater store was open and we did a little shopping there. The store has food, drinks, boating supplies and much more. The employee there was very friendly and informative. He gave us a nice rundown of what the park had to offer. You could tell by the way he talked that he was very proud of this park. I was surprised to find out that they offer showers there. What a good idea. We didn't have a lot of time to spend there as we were on our way to D.C. Our intention was just to stop by, check it out and have a little picnic so we really didn't do more than described above. It would be well worth a return trip to better explore some of the things this park has to offer. So, if you are in the area, or even if you are not, take the time to visit this beautiful beautiful park. You won't be disappointed.

My family and I were in the area and had 30 minutes to kill after a long drive. We figured this would be a great place to go with the kids. The attendants were not much help besides taking $7 for parking. The tiny playground was nothing to write home about.
Would not return.

I enjoy the historic hiking trails, they have a nice museum, drive take some nice pictures in high areas Great family trip!

This park has a little bit of everything. I love the historic hiking trails, with markers explaining what the different areas were during colonial times. A small museum, boat ramp, picnic areas, all on the shores of the Potomac River. Drive slow so you can take in the wildlife as you move to your desired area, Great family fun!

The park allows wading but not swimming. Be wary of going in the water. The water is not clean. My kids have gotten sick (stomach bug) and I know it's happened to 2 other families.

Leesylvania State Park offers a beautiful outdoor experience for hikers, paddlers, boaters, sailors, campers, history buffs, and picnickers. It is big enough to offer a sense of wilderness, offers a great playground and turtle pond for the kids, and has plenty of shoreline for scenic views. The restrooms at back of the park store are usually well kept, and park staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Check the bulletin board for activities for the whole family.

We enjoy coming to Leesylvania Park. It makes me feel like I'm far from home and on a real vacation. You can BBQ and jet ski and just have a great time with the family.

I live close to this park and come often. They have walking trails and points of history through out the park. It also has large multiple boat launching ramps to put all sizes of watercraft into the potomac. Lots of places with picnic tables and grills through out the part. A great place to spend the day. They also have camping areas if you want to pitch a tent and stay longer.

A wonderfully quiet place to walk, sit and read, hike a trail, or just wander around, particularly during the week when there are fewer picnic goers.

when I first visited this place, I was surprised that how could I miss out such a beautiful place so near to my home. This is a hidden gem - a place which has got small beach, fishing, trails, nice views and so near to the city.
This place has got some decent trails and you will find a railway line passing by which add beauty to the place. It has a nice beach also which is good for kids to have fun and make sand castles.
Overall a good place for 3-4 hours visit or may be full day if you decide to do some BBQ...

Such a lovely park! We saw a wild turkey, a bald eagle (and heard it too-- very different than you hear in the movies!), a swimming otter and several herons. But the sunrise at boat ramp one was my favorite view at the start of our visit. Such a lovely and relaxing park with plenty of parking and room to explore.

The launching fee seems a tad high but once you get in, they have excellent facilities. You don't have to worry too much about anyone messing with your stuff as it is patrolled regularly.

Our cub scouts hold their annual cub scout day camp at this park every year. We love it! The bathrooms are clean... fish are plenty off that pier and the park staff is top notch! This is a wonderful park for families and we highly recommend it.

This is a great place to launch your boat, but the rest of the park leads to be desired. The tiny Beach can be okay on some days, but it's very few and far between. The park officials don't clean this beach. You have to deal with trash others have left prior to you arriving. There are large tree branches and stumps washed up on the beach. Not to mention the stinking dead fish and large snails. Along with lots of bugs and glass from broken bottles. There are a few old grills for use, but they are always taken very early on nice days. As well as all the good spots to hang out. There are a lot of foreigners who don't know proper beach etiquette, especially when it comes to their kids. Who are left alone to run all over screaming and yelling and bothering anyone attempting to relax. Oh, and people are also allowed to take their dogs on the beach as well.If you have time to reach the bay, it's a much better choice, but if you don't mind risking cutting your feet and all the other nonsense it's not so bad.

Quiet, peaceful place on the Potomac River. Picnic tables and a decent beach, very shady; not too many folks here on a weekday. A very nice marina is right there, and the facilities were awesome. Just the break we needed on our trip to DC.

You'll pay 5.00 to get in which is fine with me because I really love the park. There is fishing, hiking, gentle walking paths, boat and jet ski launches and a pier. Nice green areas with tables and BBQ grills. The trees go right up to the waters edge. There is a general store, rangers if you need them. Camping, guided tours, wildlife recognition with the tour guides. The largest population of bald eagles in the mid Atlantic. It's a small park, which fill to capacity on holidays. Go off season or during the week. You will love it.

It’s a good place to go with the family. A lot of spaces so you could go and make birthdays or just have a wonderful day as a family!

Recommended for the wonderful water views and waterfront decking. Trails rise up and offer a great vista well above the water. Historical area once owned by Robert E. Lee's father, Revolutionary War hero. "Lighthorse" Harry Lee.

Great place to visit with small children as there is a playground, picnic area, beach access, boating, hiking trails and more.

This is large park for many activities including swimming. But mostly for boaters, with two large boat ramps and tow huge parking lots, you will see many boaters. Offer gas, dump station, offer rental of kayak, canoe, SUP, snacks.

Great place to have a picnic… not a place to swim :( I got in the water about 3 times head in and was enjoying it until I started noticing I had swimmers itch. A week later my skin as itchy bumps all over my face and body. I hope this review helps someone.

I was very pleasantly surprised when my husband brought me here today. It's not far from the house and it's a perfect place to spend an afternoon. The beach is nice with shallow entry for the kids. There were many people on jetskiis and boats. I really enjoyed the large picnic areas and the walking trail. The fitness stations were my favorite!!! Next time, we'll be bringing our kayaks (although they also rent both kayaks and canoes) or taking sailing lessons.

I make a habit of going to Leesylvania State Park annually. This year we went for a Mother's Day jaunt along with taking Tavie for an afternoon walk.
The Park is essentially flat so the walking is easy. A high percentage of the visitors picknik so the aromas of cooking are fun. Kids seem to love to go in the water (cold or not and despite the warning signs). All in all, I can recommend this park as a "Happy Place". Additionally, the view of the Potomac River is excellent.
The charge is $4 per car, not bad at all.

I enjoyed the beautiful views of the riverfront walk, the large children's play area and the general serenity of this park. Only $5 per car to get in but season passes are also available at affordable prices. Plenty of BBQ areas for birthday parties, family gatherings and so on. The park us quite well maintained and there's also a visitor area with exhibits.
Love it!

Visited on a Sunday afternoon expecting it to be crowded but it wasn't. This place is a must visit for toddlers and babies who appreciate playing in water. There were only a couple of folks relaxing near the beach and we had so much fun playing in the sand and making castles.
Considering the distance from DC and entry fee of $5 per vehicle this park is definitely worth visiting.

We love the park. It’s clean and has so many things for families: beach, picnic area, playground, hiking, fishing and boating! Plus showers are available after a fun-filled day. We try to go every weekend during the summer.

This park is in a spectacular location. When we arrived the place was JAM packed.....crazy packed. We paid our $9 to 'park' and entered the park. The bathrooms were crowded....maybe some more bathrooms. (although I did learn a wee little hint halfway through our stay that made bathroom visits less icky...visitor center.....) We were there to hike, but we did walk through the picnic areas and walk down on the dock to check it all out. While we were in the park, we walked all of the trails. The trails were pretty...and they were well maintained. The main issue and only reason I'm giving this a lower rating is the fact that the trails are not well marked at all. We hike frequently so it was not a thing of us just not knowing how to follow trail blazes....we never have issues....but here, we found ourselves standing on the trail scratching our heads trying to figure out where in the world to go NUMEROUS times while hiking in this park. Not well planned out in that regard!

Leesylvania is an excellent park it features multiple hiking trails, marina, fishing pier and other enjoyable spots.

Beautiful Virginia State Park! $10 to park for out of state residents but worth it! Little river beach that plenty were swimming in including my son. Playground, walking trail, grills, and pavilions. Plenty of shady spots and parking!

Free entry to the park for the First Day Hike. Walking trails near Potomac River and Occoquan Bay. In summer launch a boat or picnic there. There are park fees the rest of the year. I would return to visit for all seasons.

This is one of my favorite state parks. You can grill, splash around in the river, go for a hike, or take your boat out. I have the state park pass, which I recommend to avoid the fees each time. I can use the pass at any VA state park, and get in for free. The cost is worth it.

I enjoy this park. It's even better during the week first thing in the morning. I can enjoy the scenery pretty much by myself. It's cheaper to go during the week, for only $4. It's $7 on the weekend.

We visit this state park monthly or more and love it in every season. Our favorite place in the park is the beach access/boat launching area. Our kids age 3 and 5 are always excited to go exploring on the trails, visit the playground, have a picnic or search for seashells.

The three girls enjoyed putting their toes in the edge of the water, playing in the sand and the on the playground. The shoreline area was under restoration efforts. The long heavy rains took a toll on the beach area. We wanted to visit on a day when the Ranger area was open so we could check out an activity backpack. But we never seemed to be there at the right time. There is an area at the very back by the peer where some people were in the water. Be cautious the water is fast moving and dark. I was nervous letting my three little ones past their ankles.

We really enjoyed our outing to Leesylvania State Park, which is truly a gem. It is a wonderful place for a family picnic, a stroll along several well-marked hiking trails, a day of fishing or boating on the Potomac River, or simply a place to breathe some fresh air after this long COVID-19 lockdown. It draws a really diverse array of families that reflects the rich culture of Northern, Virginia. We had a picnic and then hiked the Lee Woods Trail, which is about 2 miles in a circular route with several historic sites along the way. There are numerous, clean bathrooms in the park.

Great place to take the dog for a walk or a swim. There are plenty of places that you can toss a stick in the river to allow you pooch to swim but, be cautious as anytime people are near...get fido on the leash. Great for runs, walks, or picnics. Weekends need to be early to get a barbecue spot.

Leesylvania State park is a gem not far from Potomac Mills and the bustle of northern VA. Set upon Robert E Lees' parents former homesite, it is a wonderful park offering nature trails, picnic opportunities, boat launches and more. It has plenty of handicapped parking. We found the Bushey trail to be a nice easy hike, along the river, with plenty of opportunities for nature related photography. we will certainly return for some of the more historical trails offered at this site. there is a nice visitor's center, and the boat are has a small snack show with sundries, including made in USA clothing! wow.
Thanks for all the park employees' hard work to keep this park nice.

This park is absolutely beautiful. They have places for fishing, walking picnic areas and they have a small beach. I ride my bike at the park excellent for running, walking your dog and biking., During the summer the park has concerts as well. Just a nice getaway.

They can do so much more out of this place. Its few of those parks which has water front and can have good walking trails. The fishing section of the park is quiet nice. I have heard they have canoeing over summers. Want to try that out. However this park does not have much to offer to hikers. A little more work at the park can make it so much better place to enjoy in

lots great trails, sites, history, walk along beach side- watch the jet skis

Hiking trails, lovely views of the Potomac, fishing. I come here every wknd with my dog. Always a peaceful place to go after a hectic week. Annual pkg pass is a great deal.

This is a nice, quiet park on the Potomac. There's boat docks, lots of places to camp or just spend the day hanging out. Playgrounds, good views of the river and lots of room to roam. Please pick up your trash before you go!

There is so much to do here! Picnic on the tables, or reserve a pavilion. Different playgrounds for kids of different ages. Walk the shore of the Potomac, cross the state line in the middle of the pier. Learn a little bit if history with the different displays.
I was a bit disappointed by the small fenced frog/turtle habitat. I lost count of the pieces of trash in there, and it appeared some of it was there for awhile.

I love getting in the car and driving from Old Bridge to Leesylvania Park with My nieces and nephew. They love the little beach and the awesomeness of the water. Its a safe beautiful picturesq place to enjoy family.

Just moved to Woodbridge in September. I was told a nice place to spend a summer afternoon was Leesylvania State Park. We walked along the beach walkway enjoying the breezes and the view. The park was well kept. The facilities were clean. I will visit again with a picnic basket.

You must pay to get in. The park is huge. A lot of walking paths. Picnic areas, boat ramp, beaches. Great place to walk the dog. Plenty of parking. Cool in the summer, a lot of shade and cool breeze off the Potomac. Possible issue in the summer is smell coming off the Potomac. Not as busy during the weekdays.

Took kids to go Easter egg hunting and line into park took so long that there was nothing left for kids stuck in the line which made the 20 mins sitting there for nothing

I'm fairly biased towards hiking. The trails in this park did not do it for me. Compared to nearby Prince William Forest, and Julie J. Metz Wetlands bank I found the trails here over priced and uninspiring.

Beautiful scenic views. Walking and bike trails allow to enjoy the Potomac river view. It has plenty of picnic areas, play ground for young kids, which sometimes play in the river. Restrooms are not very clean, but not as bad as other parks I’ve been. If you lie photography, this is a nice place to take them. My family and I took a family picture near the boating ramps. It’s just a matter of having a nice camera and a tripod.

There's a nice play area, extensive walking trails, and a decent river beach. It's well maintained with ample picnic areas. There's a good bit of parking, too.

i have been going to this state park for years. Each year they go up in price and the beach are usually always has large trees or debrie that needs to be cleaned up. people that have to pay to get in shouldn't have to also clean up the beach area.

This is such a nice park. Its actually wuite large. A great place to walk along tbe river, pier, fishing and a cute little store on the waterfront. They offer a huge picnic area with plenty of tables. Small beach areas and boating. A great way to spend the day.

I Love this park is had every thing that I was looking for, play grounds for the small children and space for adults along with a fishing pier. Great for picnics and cook-outs as well, most of all the veiw of the water was peaceful, Plus it is not far to travel to.

I love the variation in activities they have available - they have a few longer walks/hikes, some short ones, a pretty big picnic area for families, lots of fishing areas...

I can feel the presence of the native past here. It’s such a secret gem. It’s gorgeous. Can you imagine this in your backyard? It does have a checkpoint. It’s romantic too.

This is the 2nd year we have visited the park for a concert. Great park for all activities. Highly recommend for families.

Great hiking trails. Several to choose from. Went with a meetup group and saw other groups. The park is also great.

My family and I are avid kayakers and always looking for a new place to paddle. Although there were alot of boaters launching there power boats at the boat ramps, they were very respectful of our 4 kayaks and big canoe. We paddled around to the railroad bridge to the right of the ramp and got to wave at a couple of trains going by above. We also paddled way back into the feeder creek. Tide is very important here due to all the grasses and shallowness of the creek area. But a fun place to paddle!

I enjoy this park, plenty of wooede area to walk, park has trail, in the summer you can enjoy barbeque and bathing in the river, water is discolored used plenty of caution with smaill chidren. Park does have $10.00 to enter.

Beautiful and a hidden gem. Water, picnic tables, cookout facilities, historical monuments, signage with history and great hiking trails.

We rented a pavillion by the water and had a wonderful family reunion here. The playground is very close for little kids and there is a nice pier you can walk out on. Great hiking trails too with a boat launch.

There is not enough I can say about how lovely this park is. I recently moved to Virginia with my young family and had as a priority to find a beautiful park close to home where we can spend afternoons with our baby or family picnics. From the moment you turn off the road into the park you feel as if you are on an adventure in a forest. Within the park you have the forest/hiking trails, the marina, and the park. The park is beautifully maintained and is located at the end of the road. The equipment is in great condition and the people that go there are lovely. The park is not overcrowded like most other public parks. The best part is that the park overlooks the Potomac River and even has a beach section with sand on the shore. I would recommend this park to anyone who has never been to a great park or to people that want to have a bit more privacy on their picnic or family bbq.

Nice place to picnic, do some water sports. They have a playground for kids and a great visitors center. A trail to walk. Plenty of parking.

This is a nice trip with wonderful water views. There are picnic areas and a nice walking trail. There are many other fun things to do there as well.

I live near Leesylvania State Park and it's one of my favorite places. I tend to go on weekday evenings, so I haven't experienced the weekend crowds. The drive in is quiet beautiful. The river scenery is lovely. If you are a boating enthusiast, there are two boat launch ramps. There is a nice large shaded picnic area, playground and a small sandy beach. I find it a great place to unwind. I go often enough that I purchased an annual parking pass to save some money. I've enjoyed the music concerts there too.

Visited here recently just to get out the house and into the sun. Brilliant little play park for infants, including my daughters favourite, swings. Beautiful views up and down the Potomac river. A great day or morning out and a lovely place to visit. I will be back!

This historic park is a great place to spend a few hours walking with family and friends or in solitude. The history of the area is well displayed. Also

This state park is located on the Potomac River. The scenery there is wonderful. There are hiking trails and especially "Fit Hiking Trail" that you can stop at various points on the trail and follow the directions for stretching, and other exercise activities along the trail. You can put in your own watercraft or rent one. This place is well maintained and fishing along the river with benches to rest on. I will visit this state park again. You will find something to do for the entire family.

Be prepared to PAY to enter. CASH only! Who carries cash when they want to go hiking or go fishing?!?!

There are good all-weather walking trails which are well maintained. Fallen trees blocking the way are removed promptly and trails are resited to reduce erosion. The deer population is controlled and so there are less ticks around. One of the best parks in NOVA.

Not sure it's really a hideaway, but it's not obviously known. It stretches along the river. What we like is that there are very many grills and picnic tables in the trees, well spaced, well cleaned up, trash cans all around, and all are near-ish the river. There's a modest playground for the kids, a fishing pier, some pavilions to mount a larger picnic, boat launching with large parking lot (we don't use it), and some short, not difficult hikes up into the surrounding hills or along the river. It's just our family's sort of go-to place for a picnic in all seasons. Quite pleasant and, when crowded, not horrible. I think the fee is $5. In the winter, the collection booth is not manned, so honor system. Couple of decent bathrooms, a park service HQ with some local and nature stuff in it (rocks, stuffed animals of the region, etc.).

Park is not crowded. Plenty of parking. Store sells bait. Fish or stroll by the water or explore the trails. Pavilions for rent. Peaceful local getaway.
Good view of the Potomac river.
Good view of the Potomac river, especially to take photos and appreciate the landscape. Good place to walk and enjoy the river and the place.
