A smal part of Italy in the Bronx

By Pete A |

I've been going to this section of the South Bronx for decades. There are so many choices in great Italian dining that to pick just one or two would do a disservice to the others. (go Mario's!) Adjacent to Mario's Restaurant is a market with authentic Italian meats, breads, pastas, etc. You'll be amazed at what you can but there. Be aware that parking could be an issue at certain times and the traffic police have their frequent patrols looking for cars illegally parked (and those tickets are not cheap). Just sayin'. For a great dinner and great shopping try Arthur Ave. Close by (within a block or two) are great authentic Italian pastry shops. Enjoy!

If you visit Little Italy, you have to go eat at Antonio's in Belmont Avenue.

By Debbie R |

Wonderful atmosphere and outstanding food and service! It was our daughter's birthday and they even had one of their managers sign her a beautiful italian version of Happy Birthday to her. What a wonderful place!

Some of the Best Italian Eateries in the City

By Sharon B |

I have visited Arthur Avenue, aka "Little Italy of the Bronx", many times as a local resident and can attest to the quality and variety of Italian cuisine and markets. In particular there are bicycle friendly establishments that I frequent as a cyclist.

An Adventure for Old School Italian Food

By emilymaehood |

Little Italy in the Bronx is a well kept secret. It’s unassuming storefronts don’t advertise its culinary culture, but its authenticity more than makes up for it. You have to be willing to take a leap into this adventure. The area is becoming “gentrified” so you have a mixed neighborhood. Nearby you have Fordham University, the Botanical Gardens, and the Bronx Zoo so it’s convenient if you want to grab a bite and check out the sights. Fresh mozzarella, Ann & Tony’s Restaurant, Full Moon Pizza, and Arturo’s Pastry Shop are our favorites! Don’t forget to watch a Bronx Tale before you go!

Its the real deal

By Richard W |

Its a bit out of the way and best reached by car. But unlike Little Italy in Manhattan which has few Italians living there, this is a real deal--a living neighborhood with great Italian produce and stores

i try to get over there more often

By Sharon L |

perfect cheeses nice and fresh and i just discovered pepper poppers, now i don't have travel all the way down to china time for authentic italian imported products

The Real Little Italy

By Passport590427 |

I love to stroll on " the real little Italy' in the Bronx, although a Commissioner described it as more of "Little Albania"..
There is more activity on the week-end, love the lively market, watching the cuban cigar rolling, the fabulous bakeries ( aahh the walnut bread..) & my favorite restaurant there on Arthur Avenue is Zero Otto Nove, with its italian indoor courtyard & my favorite pumpkin pizza!

So many fabulous stores, restaurants and bakeries@

By DonnaDriskell |

Our next trip we will stay near Arthur Avenue just so I can try all of the restaurants, bakeries and bring lots of goodies from the markets back home. LOVE this area.

Worth The Visit

By XSki007 |

These streets haven't changed since I was a kid growing up in the Bronx.
A lot of the restaurants still serve great meals and excellent pizza.
The bakeries are the best and the butcher shops stock items you cant find elsewhere.
Great visit.

Little Left of a Once Thriving Neighborhood

By William V |

The area was once at the center of the large Belmont Italian community of Dion and A Bronx Tale fame. Few people of Italian heritage under 70 live in the handful of blocks not engulfed by sterility of the rest of the Bronx. Albanians are now more common. Many of the restaurants are living off old reputations. None would rank in the top 20 NYC Italian restaurants. Some of the bakeries and salumerias are good, but no better than what can be found in virtually any NY area neighborhood. The local NYPL library once offered great programs on the Italian American experience, but these are now rare.

We found the corner!

By CharlotteDayTripper |

Start at prince coffee house on Arthur Avenue with a fantastic coffee and great people watching. We heard Italian at every table. Then go up Arthur Avenue to the indoor Arthur Avenue retail market which is amazing. Everything from cigars to every food you can imagine. Keep going and shops, bakeries and restaurants abound. End up at a wonderful bakery called Artuso bakery. Go hungry!

Always go here

By Pam M |

You must go its a have to not a maybe.
So go enjoy and you wont be sorry.
Food, shopping everything. Desert is fabulous.

Arthur Avenue

By T1918JHlindac |

Well if you want the best Mozzarella head on down to 1 187th St. and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Try any of the Italian delis you won’t be disappointed. The fish stores and butchers all the best in the city. I grew up in this neighborhood in the 50s and 60s and it’s still a wonderful place to visit. And don’t forget to go Bugatti’s for ravioli and pasta it’s across the street from the beautiful Mount Carmel church. Many good Italian restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Mama Mia!

By Paul C |

This is the place to find all of your Italian delicacies, especially for all the Italian celebration holidays. The restaurants in the area are pretty authentic and good. Get there early because parking can be really hard to find as this is a residential area.

Enzos restaurant

By finewine123 |

Best Italian food and beverage program in the Arthur ave area by far. Just expanded the restaurant and build a new bar and wine cellars the owner is a great chef and all around guy. Well worth a visit!!

Belmont area. Is the best place edievially the market

By Allan S |

Love coming here With my wife as there are so many places to go, things to buy and wonderful smells. Authentic Italian provisions, produce and appliances sold. You can speak real Italian and be understood. I like going into the delis and bakeries with their beautiful products displayed and available to purchase.

Very hard to find taking the subway

By krasivaya818 |

It was pretty much impossible for us to find this place using the New York subways. good luck getting there on the weekends when the B line is not working. You have to take several trains and a bus then walk to the street. We ended up taking the subway to Harlem then catching an Uber the rest of the way. This street is very close to the Bronx zoo so if you’re near I would definitely stop by. We ate some of the best Italian food ever!!

Great Neighborhood

By 291alanb |

If you love mozzarella you MUST visit Casa Della Mozzarella on 187th Street.I will bet you've never had anything like the mozzarella made on site here. Pizza choices abound and my two favorites are Full Moon and Ivana's.

Worth the effort of finding parking

By Judith C |

We love going to Arthur Ave. Between the delis and restaurant there is so much to eat! And it's all so good. We usually pair a stop here with a visit to the NY Botanical Gardens. My kids love Arthur Ave pizza places, restaurants and bakeries :)

it depends

By Walter Gerritsen van der Hoop |

On an average weekday evening in november there is not very much business at Arthur Avenue. But it is Italian, that is for sure.

Best pizza in da Bronx.

By Anna S |

We go here anytime we want good pizza and other Italian goodies. The area is safe and has wonderful old fashion bakeries.

Stop at all the bakeries!

By sj7611 |

Arthur ave is the place to go if you are looking for the best cannoli anywhere - the best biscotti, the best meats and fruits/veg. Don't forget about the shops that sell authentic Italian dishes and pasta machines. True authentic Italian!

the best real italian pizza in the Bronx

By Tannaz I |

I have never had seafood here but some have real italian pizza such as Zero Otto Nove Arthur Avenue, Bronx, it is such a lovely place.

Great food in The Bronx

By seanworc |

The Arthur Avenue corridor in The Bronx is a wonderful day trip. There is easy access by car and public transportation. The focus here is Italian food. There are wonderful and traditional speciality shops for flowers, seafood, bread, pasta, and mozzarella plus many restaurants. Perfect for a stroll, checking everything out. Very safe and loads of fun! Be there.

Arthur Ave-don't miss

By JoanRuff |

Bring your appetite and your shopping list. Get a meal or coffee and a cannoli. Take your time and stroll around the neighborhood and imagine you could actually get to Europe.

Busy avenue!

By dustythoughts |

I love wandering around on Arthur Ave to window-shop, have a meal in one of the many amazing Italian restaurants, and just take in the vibrant atmosphere. Arthur Ave is always busy and there's always something to see, so you could spend a while day just wandering around and taking in the sights. This isn't the same as Little Italy in Manhattan (it's mostly just Arthur Ave, rather than a whole neighborhood), so don't get confused about which Little Italy you're visiting.

Great Italian restaurants

By Bryan L |

If your looking for the best Italian food you have ever tasted this is the spot. If your driving in this is a easy neighborhood to maneuver. If your taking the subway from the city your in for a hike. Arthur Ave is a one mile walk from the Grand Concourse train stop. You can sometimes get a cab outside station but not guaranteed. Not a walk I would make at night but to each his own. The Arthur Ave market is very cool to pick up anything you would expect from a typical fresh market but also includes a bar, t-shirts and hand rolled cigars on site. Tour the neighborhood and find great desserts and pizza. I recommend this being a stop on your way in or out of the city if you have limited free time once you arrive at your main destination.

A great place to food shop

By ernieo1 |

Here you can find a very good selection of authentic Italian foods. The City Market is a must. You can sit down for lunch here or simply take out virtually anything "Italian" There are great bread stores with really good bread sticks and pastries. Fish markets with terrific selections of fresh seafood to eat right there or to take home. Meat stores with variety of choice you just won't find at your local supermarkets.

Awesome cannolis

By ALBERONI |

I visited the Bronx little Italia when we take a break for lunch from work, me and my partners go out there and enjoy the cannolis there and there are lots of different eateries not just Italian cuisine, I'm Italian and Spaniard so when i tell you the eating out there is good.

Overrated but still better than Little Italy down in Manhattan.

By palerm0e |

I don't understand all the hoopla over this area. It's congested and very often overpriced. I think there's plenty of nice areas to visit in the Bronx, including areas where you can find great Italian cuisine, outside of Arthur Avenue. Head out to city island or Throgs Neck or even Morris Park. And if you happen to be in the area just for the indoor shopping market or beer hall you can find better elsewhere.

smaller than Chinatown, one of smallest neighborhoods tripadvisor says

By dgraham76 |

still had a walk through here after china town and bumped into a nice little quaint ice cream parlour and tried some chocolate connolil's for the first time which were nice but weren't cheap

My top stops.

By Always4Travelling |

Everything you need from culatello to cannoli within half a mile. Be sure to keep an eye on the meter because if you don't, guarantee the meter maid will. Be sure to get your olive loaf and 7 grain toast at Madonia Bakery, mozzarella and sun-dried peppers at Casa Della Mozzarella, some sopresatta at Calabria Pork Store, sliced bread and pizza dough at Terranova, truffle cheese and fresh ricotta at calandra and cannoli from Gino's. You'll be all set.

Definitely worth a visit

By Rcdown78 |

This Little Italy area seems less touristy than what one finds on Mulberry Street. It has numerous shops of all kinds, reflecting the practice of buying fresh foodstuffs every day...whether dairy and cheeses, meats, vegetables or fish. And of course, pasta and rice. One also finds cigar makers and cigar bars, wine stores and some very fine restaurants....along w hardware stores, kitchen specialty shops, and the occasional Latin market and taqueria, reflecting demographic changes as the area evolves. The retail market is worth a walk through as well. Still and all it is living breathing community of Italian-America that demonstrates Italian food culture as it exists today. While I wish there were less "Italian kitsch" in the way of Godfather trinkets and the like, it is nonetheless well worth a visit, and is easily accessible by car or from the subway/train.There is municipal parking (small fee) right off Arthur Avenue.

Who Shrunk Little Italy?

By George S |

Compared to years past, this Little Italy does not measure up but if you are new to the area, it will still conjure up good times and good food without breaking the bank. Try the deli for a true Italian sandwich and make sure to take home their excellent mozzarella cheese, other fine Italian cheeses, old cuts, and Italian specialties. Go for espresso and pastries! Much still to love about the place.

Shopping Back In Time

By Andrew P |

What a wonderful experience. If your looking for FRESH cheese, pasta, pork items, produce, pastry, bread and meals look no further. It is all here within three block area. As an added feature you can stand on the corner eating raw clams and oysters. How great is that.

If you are in the Bronx you have to eat here

By j0hnandlaurab |

It's the food Capitol of the Bronx.....the market, the restaurants, the bread,,,the pizza,, the meats,,, that's Italian....a must....and it's safe to go there...

Little Italy isn't only on Mott street!

By Ralph8119 |

Another Italian neighborhood on 187th.street that been serving the finest in Italian cuisine since before my birth Arthur ave. second to none a must visit bring your appetite!

A trip up to the other Little Italy

By Chip1953 |

On this NYC trip, I decided to take in several sights outside Manhattan. The first (other than Yankee Stadium) that popped up in the Bronx was Arthur Avenue. This was the scene of Robert De Niro's first film, Roy Scheider's "The Seven Ups" &several episodes filmed of the Sopranos. It's where post-WW2 Italian American families moved out of Manhattan as Chinatown expanded. It's just how neighborhood's evolve within the City. Within another couple of decades, it's likely that this neighborhood will be entirely Hispanic. There's maybe 3 blocks long, 2 wide of this Bronx Little Italy (w/ a little more around the fringes). But, what's there is genuine, interesting, smells and tastes great. Go primarily for the food. A market has been built by the City to house vendors of all ilk to sell their wares - butchers, bakers, coffee shops, etc.

If you're going by public transport, as was I, I don't recommend the subway. Their website says you can take the D train - which you can. But it's at least 1 1/2 miles from the stop to Arthur Ave. it's downhill getting there; fairly steady uphill getting back. Better to pay for Metro North out of Grand Central to Fordham Rd.

Overrated

By Wardnick1 |

I've eaten in three different Italian restaurants in this neighborhood. None of them were distinguished and I have pretty much given up on it. I can't speak for all of the restaurants but the three I ate in were ordinary. On a Saturday, make a reservation or you will be condemned to mediocrity. The restaurants I went to live on their past glories.

Taste of Italy

By Lily S |

This is probably the last remaining area in NYC that you can refer to as Little Italy. The Little Italy in the Village is practically gone but this area still has lots if fabulous Italian restaurants and shops. Get cannolis at a bakery or stop at an old butcher for some meat. Just fabulous.

Another nice day visiting Arthur Avenue

By Karen D |

Being of Italian heritage, I enjoy visiting Little Italy. It is the next best thing than being in Italy. I love walking in the stores, eating in the restaurants and checking out the bakeries.

Arthur Avenue's Little Italy in the Bronx Must !

By Jacqueline C |

When you find Arthur Avenue, the biggest decision you need to make is, where are you going to eat. The street is lined up, with mostly Italian restaurants. It is on a one way street. Very busy area. It is close to the Bronx Zoo, and the NY Botanical Garden. Definitely worth to eat there, before you go home. They also have shops, and, markets. Enjoy!

Nice outing if you have time to head to the Bronx

By Jackie Z |

We went on a Monday evening at 7pm and half of the businesses were closed.
I'm sure that it would have been a better experience on a weekend evening.

Spectacular

By mattpam20 |

If you want fresh pasta, fresh baked goods, Italian pastry- this area has it. You want Italian coffee, fresh fish markets. This place has it. You want one of NY’s best butchers - visit Pete’s. You want to dig into some of NYC best pizza. This place has it. A great community and well worth the trip.

Don’t go on a Monday

By Robert G |

I wanted to go to authentic Little Italy in the Bronx , but we went on a Monday
3 of the places that were recommended were closed. But we had a nice stroll around the Bronx and trying other eateries

Watch your step !

By Richard S |

Our first visit to Arthur Avenue. Saturday Afternoon on Labor Day weekend, and it was very busy. Lots of different shops and restaurants.
The sidewalks are very uneven and the wells around the trees lining the streets are a real tripping hazard.
My wife is still recovering from a bad fall caused by a missing Belgian block.

Awesome place to go!

By Neils57 |

We went here with a group of 13 people the shops, deli's, stores restaurants are great(most of them) the market is also great! If you go here you will never go to Mulberry st again!(pasty shops are all awesome!)

Not What It Was

By Michael B |

Not so Italian anymore. More none Italian restaurants and stores. Less Italian restaurants, less feeling authentic, more for tourists. Food not the best. You can skip it...

Vero Italiano

By Abenture |

Arthur Avenue is the way you expect little Italy to be. Had a conversation in Italian with a very nice local man sitting on a chair in the sidewalk. NYC is a very diverse metropolis with every culture on display in their own neighborhood.
Arthur Avenue is true Italian. Family run shops abound and I’m reminded of walking in a neighborhood in Italy. Groceries, restaurants, retailers pastries all the best Italian you’re going to get.

Great area for restaurants and walking

By kimtb2016 |

I was in the area. Very safe neighborhood. I walked around this cute quiet section. There's few great Italian places. Full Moon is great pizza place. Worth checking out if in the area.

Okay but we expected more

By len16107 |

Little Italy in the Bronx cannot compare with Little Italy in Manhattan . There are a few restaurants ,a market and some bakeries.

Oh yeah!!

By jakayla2131 |

My favorite is Artuso. Love that place. Cookies, cakes, pastries, conoli etc.. Nice quiet neighborhood, place never gets old.

Not What It Was

By tweedybird26 |

Arthur Avenue still offers a range of restaurants and some food stores but there are fewer than in the past. Some roads were recently made one way so be careful if driving.

Piece of history

By NYnick1 |

Little Italy in the Bronx is truly an experience. There's great delis to get an amazing breakfast sandwich as well as a sub for lunch. There's numerous restaurants to have a great dinner with friends and family! Be sure to stop in all the local shops! Truly a piece of history!

The real Little Italy of New York. To visit for an Italian in New York.

By Ivan_recensioni_1996 |

Famous Bronx street full of Italian shops. The only flaw: unfortunately there are not many real Italians; the employees are almost all neo-Latin which makes the place lose some authenticity.

Love, love , love

By GioKaro2014 |

Love all the culture and history that you can find in Little Italy. Amazing food and ambience. Also the people are so nice and helpful. Be ready to walk a lot though. Overall an awesome experience for everybody.

Authenticity everywhere

By NYJOC |

From the olive bread in the bakeries to the gravy on the veal parmigiana, from the fish stores to the butchers, Arthur Avenue is alive with New York Italian verve and genuine expressions of Italiano culture. Great restaurants, easy going atmosphere, nobody puts on airs. It could use a little more attention from the Department of Sanitation street cleaning folks. We love it though. Except for the parking, which is a big exception because its really dissuades someone from driving all the way there if they’re going to have to drive around for a half hour fighting for a parking space. With all that, we still love the food.

The best

By Jacqueline B |

The best pizza and Italian food in nyc and cost effective and big portion of food and the bakeries are delicious and the butcher shop is to die for

Great Food Venue

By Bourlingueur |

We made a brief stop at the Arthur Avenue Little Italy in the Bronx for lunch. It was wonderful. I can't wait to go back when I have more time to really look around and explore the stores!

Yum!

By ChantillyLace28 |

Some of the best Italian food you can get! My favorite, ravioli. However, it does not stop there. Desserts along the strip are amazingly good too!
Parking is a problem, as always, but go further down the streets to find it or use a parking garage. Just be patient, it's worth it..

Easily Accessible Little Italy

By Mark W |

The restaurants, bakeries, and shops attract clientele from throughout the New York area, of every ethnic, racial, and religious background.

Parking is convenient and inexpensive. Near the Bronx Zoo and Yankee Stadium, Arthur Avenue combines happily with other outings.

Fall get away

By PFerrugia65 |

This way by far our highlight of our get away. Being of Sicilian decent to tour an area of the Bronx that was created by Italian’s who came from all over Italy to the United State of America was an amazing treat. We had an amazing tour guide Gracie Lee who took us on a great adventure. The walking was a little much but we had a great time. We tasted foods from each of the vendors that have store fronts that are as old a 100 years. From cheeses, to meats, to breads, pastries, cannolis to the best pizza we have ever eaten. This was by far the greatest day ever. Thank you Gracie Lee....

I love the Bronx

By Chyna |

I love the graffiti throughout 188th or 181st street. I love the hills and the skin tones of the people on the community. I went to Author street!! I love the community that they build. I'm happy to see that the Bronx is still the same.

Better than Manhattan Little Italy

By travel_alot91 |

Wonderful restaurants (Tino's was fabulous (Bianco pizza) and excellent pasta, fresh fish shops, etc.

Go Before the Renovation!

By RaquelitaNYC |

You should visit this traditional Italian neighborhood before the renovation of the area and the invasion of tourism occur. There are still survivor shops of the Italian tradition (bakeries, butcheries, and restaurants). It´s great.

Antonia's

By Linda B |

What a great place the pasta was excellent. Very busy place, try to get reservations as we were there early (5:00) on Sun. And it was busy. Wait staff excellent atmosphere wonderful. Would return.

You need to check it out!

By Chiara C |

Little Italy in the Bronx is a THOUSAND times better than little Italy in Manhattan! You start at Enzo's for a bite to eat, you go to Dellilos Pastry Shop after for a nice espresso or cappuccino and a pastry. You take a walk around the indoor market, stop at Cerrinis Coffee Shop to pick up your Italian groceries and end the day with a gelato from the thousands of little gelato shops.

Little Italy

By JeanieWills |

Best service in London!! Thanks to Neil snd Ellie for making my dinner more delicious with their hospitality.

Good Italian food

By MysterDiner0213 |

Always fun exploring Little Italy when in NYC on the way to an event. Take the train down and make some time for food, or take an evening and enjoy a festival. But the neighborhood is changing and the flavor is beginning to as well. There is a Latin and Asian influence that makes it interesting, but detracts from the character, Arthur Avenue still continues to be THE place to get bread, sauce and cheese, hopefully that will never change.

Nice to walk around, shop and try different eateries!

By Lfk1128 |

Love to walk the streets and buy Fresh Mozzarella, other cheeses, cold cuts and heros at Cassa Della Mozzarella, buy Fresh Pasta at Borgatis, Breads at Addeos, Veal and meats at Vincents and pastries at many different shops. Try Ivanka's Pizza or sit down for dinner at Dominicks, Zero Otto Nove or Roberto's to name a few favorites! You can't go wrong...a great way to spend the afternoon but remember to bring home food for the next day or the freezer!

This is the Real Deal

By Jack P |

I have been to Little Italy in Boston (North End), Manhattan, Brooklyn, Chicago, San Diego and I live in Little Italy in San Francisco (North Beach). All of these little Italy’s are fading to some degree as younger generations move out of the area to “the suburbs “and they all find it had to hold on to what they used to be. That being said, I found Little Italy in the Bronx to still be the real deal! All of these Little Italy’s have great restaurants and pastry shops and few still have some good Italian markets. But LI in the Bronx is the only place that has the real Burcher shops, Sausage Shops, Cheese shops where they make the cheese right there. The vegetable markets (try to find zucchini flowers somewhere else), and the Italian specialty food markets. When you walk into a Burcher shops and see fresh rabbit, Tripe, cows’ tongue and they are turning if over frequently enough that it is fresh, you know it’s the real deal. We watched an Italian speaking woman buying a goat’s head for an Italian stew and polenta – That’s the real deal! Make sure you go to the Author Avenue Retail Store – it’s a bunch of shops all sharing a large open space, meats, vegetables, specialty foods and six men rolling fresh cigars, great place to walk through. Also, Casa Della Cheese shop, lots of cheeses but they specialize in Mozzarella – all made right there. If he’s in a good mood, say hi to Orazio Carciotto, the owner (he’s only in the back making cheese) who has been at it for 35 years. Finally, a must walk through is Calabria Pork Store – tons of fresh sausage hanging from the ceiling and yes, made right there. We were told that people come from all over NY and NJ to shop and eat there, I get it, if I lived anywhere within 100 miles I’d be there once a week! From Manhattan, take the D line to the Bronx, short Uber from the subway to 187th@Aurthor Ave and enjoy!

Like you stepped out of the city

By Travel4Tracy |

for all tourists.. you DO NOT Need to book a tour. i swear, anything to make money. this is a small area really just 1 main street of a few blocks. just walk around and make sure you stop in to eat (read restaurant reviews first. they are NOT all that great just because they are on arthur ave). and definitely stop in a pastry shop. most of them are the same and pretty good. also check for festivals in the summer, they are very fun to walk around. the shops (just a few) are really a great place to pick up things you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the city. very authentic, straight from Italy pastas, sauces, etc. fun afternoon.

Authentic and off the tourist beaten path.

By ameran |

Come to the Bronx if you want to experience how real people live and shop in family owned stores with hand made products.

Back Home!

By thebagel60 |

What would be a trip back home to NY without stopping at 187th Street and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx? This is the real Little Italy of NY, and parking has been made easier with parking machines and parking lots. Mangia!

Another location for Italian specialties

By Albert F |

Growing up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, I moved to the suburbs I have been told that Arthur Ave is just as good. Not quite but it about 3-4 blocks worth if shopping and restaurants. I found several old style butcher shops, pork stores, cheeses, specialties and more. It is definitely a good place to get some real Italian items but where are all the Italians? Boy things have changed . Great place to go anyway. I may have found a new love for food and shopping.

New York's Real Little Italy

By Bill M |

Little Italy in the Bronx is a great place to stop before a game at the Stadium or when you are visiting the Zoo or Botanical Garden. They have great restaurants from white linen establishments to counter service. The food is mostly classic Italian American with the focus on southern Italy. Lots of little shops. Characters galore sitting are sitting at the sidewalk cafes. Parking is easy. You are likely to find on the street parking and you can pay at a pay station. Check it out.

Glad I went but long journey

By dgbenge |

Two Subway trains and bus ride followed b]y walk to get there from midtown. Cool Italian neighborhood. Truly a real little Italy.

Don't miss Little Italy in the Bronx

By RalphTallahassee_FL |

Take the Metro-line from Grand Central Sta. To Fordham Rd. EXit the station to the left and walk about 4 blocks to Arthur Ave. Turn right and walk down to about 187 th St and enjoy Little Italy . Looks like the old Little Italy on Mulberry St back in the 50s. Great restaurants and don't forget the Market. Have lunch at Greco's in the Market. Unbelievable food. If you have time walk to the Botanical Gardens . It's huge, 250 acres?, take tram ride and do some hiking around the place.
By the wAy...2 Srs. Round trip to Fordham Rd sta costs only $18. Beautiful wAy to spend a day in the city.

Italian cheese!

By John S. |

Some of the smells, such as those in the cheese store, are amazing. The experience was like being whisked into a Marty Scorsese movie for a few blocks. Authentic.

The Real Little Italy in the Bronx!

By KarolaRS |

Loved this place! A local friend took me there and I was astonished with those authentic Italian flavours we found around. The artisanal food shops and specialty stores carrying superb handmade local and imported items were unbelievably cute.

A BRONX girl on Arthur Avenue!

By Carol C |

Two to three times a year after we’ve gone to my favorite place, The BRONX Zoo, we go over to Arthur Avenue for lunch & pastry & cappuccinos. Usually we eat at Dominick’s or Emilia’s. Coffee & cookies or pastry at the Market. Having grown up in The Bronx it’s like going home! Been to the Zoo since I was a little kid brings back great memories
Still a Bronx Girl🥰

Go visit the bazaar!!!

By JLuSantiago |

It is magical and the street smell like cookies and cakes! Yes you read correctly! Go straight to 188th n Arthur Avenue and walk along Arthur or 188th! Either way you will find the most unique shops, restaurants, n bakeries!!!!

Fine dining

By Pat M |

Quite an array of great cuisine. Old school Italian food. The restaurants are based on very good selections of some of favorites.

Traditional

By Edopier |

It’s a very nice district, but the name does not represent Italy properly. There are less italian restaurants here than in the rest of NY. However, this place is a traditional destination when in NY

Great place!!

By NYnick1 |

I've been going to Little Italy for years now and it never gets old. There is so much history there. You can always find something to do! There is of course, many places to eat at!!

The real deal

By Dana Los Angeles |

A journey thru one of the most well preserved and authentic historic Italian neighborhoods in America.

More Italian than Manhattan sister...

By intrepidCRO |

I end up here after the tour in South Bronx, took a subway to Fordham Road and walk towards Arthur Avenue...and suddenly you will be in New York that you could see in old movies...lot of cliches but at least no tourists. Shops, pizzerias, market, sweetshops, restaurants...really worth a trip to this part of the town instead of Manhattan Little Italy

A quick nostalgic snapshot

I have always struggled with ambivalent feelings about any "Little Italy" anywhere. Much like St Patrick's, San Gennaro or Columbus Day, Chinatowns, Hofbrau Houses and the like, such circumstances bring out the better and worse aspects of any given culture. People who've never considered visiting a familial homeland shout out dubious expertise, trumpet blood ties and wax nostalgic re cultural aspects oddly imagined. Yet there is much pride and fun not to be missed as well if we resist the temptation to take ourselves too seriously.

Visits during childhood to nearby Bronx Little Italy often enough meant ritualistic multiple church stops and semi-annually seeing - my only formally educated cousin the dentist. My reward for handling it well included an ice cream soda and pit snack stop at the then exotic indoor Italian Market. Mom would come home with treats such as sesame cookies, ricotta cheese cake with citron bits, fresh sardines (for an omelet), cheeses sesame crusted and pork bread, olive oil, scungilli and braciola. Oh yes and the occasional head of a sheep to be breaded, stuffed, baked and kept secret from any aliens outside our culture.

Bits of that magic yet lingered throughout the decades in Little Italy. A good high school friend later owned a wonderful sweets bakery. The intense aromas of Italian deli or fresh bread, homemade, pasta and great prices on Italian pottery/cooking vessels could not be missed. My brother in law had an in with a small shop which daily produced the freshest ricotta and mozzarella, always with free bites for friends.

I remember the best and most generously endowed veggie pizza ever encountered anywhere. When quizzed about the magic beyond a great wood fired crust. I was told each vegetable had to be cooked al dente and separately as well as combined only at the end, thus preserving unique flavors rather than a mosh.

The first time I ever saw a thing called a SLICE of pizza was outside the restaurant across the street from the Little Italy wine shop where I worked one year during college. They sliced up a pie, covered it with a metal lid and sold it in smaller cuts. What an amazing idea!

Small wonder occasionally stopping back never fails to put me in touch with many wonderful ghosts.

This is the real deal

Arthur Ave is the city's best Little Italy in a stable, old world nabe. Eat at Antonio's and buy their fabulous bread from Addeo around the corner. Manhattan? Fugedaboutit!!

TRY Gino's Pastry Shop!

By sharon s |

This is the home of the REAL CANOLI KING! Another company had the name "Cannoli King" registered, but that company is not the real one - ONLY Gino's is the official Cannoli King - taste the cannoli's and you will know why.... in fact taste anything at Gin's and you will know why it has been a classic in the Arthur Ave area for decades. So if you want the best cannoli's or pastries you have to try this place. Very wonderful people. A true NY treasure not to be missed!

Sensual Overload

By Richard A |

We always enjoy the sensual delights of the Arthur Avenue area in the Bronx .The entire vibe pleases the senses from people watching ,shopping , restaurants, dessert places ,cigars and a fresh food market . This is a truly amazing place to spend a few hours. I recommend going on a weekday since easier to park and enjoy all there is to offer .For shopping if you can bring a cooler in your car and take home fresh cheeses , home made pasta and superb bread .Have dinner at one of the very authentic Italian restaurants and save room for dessert at one of the pastry shops .Such fun and well worth the trip.

True Italian

Outside of going to Italy-you'll find very good dining and shopping here.Baked goods are top notch and better value than Manhattan.

Perfect Pizza and Pasta!

By S F |

Little Italy (although a smaller area than it used to be) is a definite place to visit for lunch or dinner - it backs on to China town, therefore, you can do the two areas in one day and experience both sights and culture.
The food, glorious food, is excellent - it doesn't matter where in the world the Italians go, they take their amazing food and recipes with them and are always guaranteed of producing some of the best meals you will ever enjoy.... Little Italy is no exception. We enjoyed wandering around the area for a while and then stopped at a Restaurant for lunch - we were not disappointed - probably one of the best meals we enjoyed whist in New York. Pasta, pizza, salads, fish... all wonderful! The ambience of wherever you dine is 'so Italian' and so enjoyable. You will enjoy your time in this area of New York.

Little Italy - The Bronx

By Andrea G |

Thanks to Marcos & Inside Out Tours, the walking tour was a fantastic way to see & experience the culture and history of this part of The Bronx. As Marcos is a local from the area, his knowledge is thorough and genuine. We met some friendly traders on our way who were happy to share their life stories. Thank you Marcos, we had a memorable day.

Mama Mia Mangia Mania

By BenzgalS550 |

A group of friends left Long Island for the day to dine and shop on Arthur Avenue. It was a gorgeous fall day perfect for wandering around the streets of Arthur Avenue and 187st Street.
We dined at Emilia's (you can read other comments at my review). There are many restaurants to choose from so before you arrive, go online and check the reviews and menus for each.
We found the Calabria Pork Store to be simply amazing. The pork products are the best. Sopresatta and sausages are outstanding. Small selection of Calabrese olives towards the back of the store. Service was a bit manic, the server didn't take kindly to questions and could have been more helpful. We were the only people in the store and were madly rushed.
The Madonnia bakery for bread was good. I was surprised at the limited selection of bread. I asked for ciabatta bread and was given an Italian bread. No use arguing but my Calabrese husband knows bread and it was not a ciabatta I brought home. The olive bread is packed with olives. It might sound steep at $6.00 a loaf but it's dense and chewy and packed with salty olives. Addicting.
Joe's deli was a perfect place for the peppers in oil and burrata cheese. The cheese is pre-packaged and ready to go.
Sadly I forgot the name of the pasta and ravioli store. It is directly across the street from Our Lady of Mount Carmel church. Homemade pastas and wide assortment of raviolis. Each box of 27 for about $14.99. Fast, curt service also at the pasta place. It must be the hallmark of ArthurAvenue shopkeepers, not rude, just not overly friendly or grateful for your business.
The Egidio bakery is the destination for fine Italian pastry, cookies and cakes.
It's a visually beautiful store, clean and well lit.
To be honest I can't tell about prices. It didn't matter! The pastries are delectable. The bakery does offer a few tables and chairs so make it a stop to rest after shopping and enjoy a cappuccino and individual slice of cake or pastry. Lemoncello tiramisu was a favorite as was the French Napoleon and Sicilian cannoli not to be confused with the Italian cannoli.
Be aware that although there is adequate parking in the municipal lots, there is a three hour time limit at the meter. The day we went the meter readers were out in full force giving tickets for expired meters. The city should allow four hour time limits on the meter. Three hours was not enough time to eat and shop without running back to also feed the meter. Ironic, because the meter enforcers all but ignored the double parked cars creating havoc on the roadway streets.
Overall it's a perfect day trip to enter the world of the Italian food culture in America. It's a step back in time, a different era. When mom and pop shops ruled and no one dared bought their bread or sausage anywhere else but the corner stores.

Great food

By Autumn M |

There are so many places to stop and eat. Yummy Italian everywhere. Great desserts and fun place to walk around.

Great food!

By Alexander R |

Walking through Arthur Avenue takes me back to the old days when Italians smoking big cigars still controlled the whole area. The area has changed dramatically with other ethnic groups opening businesses, numerous great Mexican and Albanian cafes now are a part of the landscape but the Italian food still dominates the area. The market still offers fantastic fresh made sausages, great pastries, and even fresh rolled cigars! This place is truly a gem and worth stopping in for a good meal and a stroll through the interesting businesses. Make sure you take home some authentic Italian bread. You won't regret it.

Great Food

By hellnoIwontgo |

Friendly atmosphere with great dining options, bakeries, cheese stores, coffee and pastry places, etc.

Great place to walk and eat any time of the year.

By saltesh |

A little Italy left in the USA. Charming and near Botanical Garden and Zoo. Park in easy, accessible lot in toown and eat local.

Worth a visit but leave room for a meal!!

By CTNYC16 |

This traditional Italian neighborhood is worth the trip. Directions are pretty easy but the parking is not!! Leave time to walk up and down Arthur Avenue to peruse the shops. The sausages and fresh mozarella are the best ever! I'm not a fan of Italian pastries but if you are, you are in luck. There are a number of great restaurants around. Check Trip Advisor for reviews. A few are more mediocre while others are fabulous.

Cozy and family oriented

You will have fun at this place. They treat you like family and people are very warm. The food is fantastic and there is always something going on there. Great place to spend an afternoon and stroll around aimlessly .

Pasquales a nice quit family restaurant right on Arthur Avenue. Good food, good service and a attendant run parking lot. A good gravy is one of the most important parts of Italian cuisine and there is pretty good. Enjoy

NYBG- Both the adult & child in you will enjoy!

By Irene C |

I had an an joyous time with my friends at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx in December. The annual Train Show helped to get everyone in the spirit of the Holiday and winter season.
It was a cool evening with clear skies. The displays brought back memories and inspired my curiosity to learn more about different buildings in New York City. It is a beautiful place but the magic of the night made me feel like I was 30 years younger and everything was New again. We laughed and took many photos. It felt as if I were back in high school hanging out with my best friends.
I recommend purchasing tickets in advance to absorb long waits, especially if it is cold. You can select what time you want to enter and plan accordingly. My friends and I choose to attend on a Friday evening when it was adults only. Anyone who wanted could purchase wine and other drinks.
Remember to ensure that your phone or camera has a lot of room for pictures. You will surprise yourself at how many photographs you will take is just a few hours only to realize there were many great moments that just could not be captured.

Little Italy

By Explore666300 |

My family and I love going to Arthur Avenue. Either on a Sunday to go get bread, cold cuts and pastries, for dinner or for pizza and pastries after. They have amazing mom and pop shops.

One of the best... traditional and real.

By RonL40 |

Unlike some of the neighborhoods that are just barely hanging on, Little Italy here is a vibrant place with delicious traditional food, the fish markets and the bakeries and the butchers, the cafes. For anyone who remembers what an Italian neighborhood looked like decades ago, it's a real treat... because it's still real. Loved it.

ReAlly compact

I like the Atmosphere
Not much to see
Or places to go to
Nor a lot of restaurants
But for the most part the few places are good
Love the coffee shops and “tapas italiano”bAr it’s always good, the bakeries are also good.

Shop and Eat to your Delite

This small area cosist of Italian Markets, Italian Pastry Shops, Fresh Pasta Shops and of course Italian Restaurants. All of these are a treat to visit, taste and shop. It is also walking distance to the Bronx Zoo and the Bronx Botanical Garden.

Pasquale's Rigoletto, Arthur Avenue, Bronx

No reservations but got in without a wait after a tremendous walk-off Yankee win and enjoyed a thoroughly delicious dinner. Reasonable, huge entrees (brought some home for lunch today), friendly crowd and staff.

Don't go on a Sunday

By princetonarea |

This really isn't more than a few blocks and so many of the stores (vs the restaurants) are closed on Sundays. If I'd gotten into some of the specialty stores, maybe i'd be more excited about it. But from what I saw, I won't go out of my way to come back.

Food food and more food!

By ChantillyLace28 |

Not just food... The best Italian food that is! What's not to like, good quality Italian food, bread, cookies, pastries, the best pasta. Ravioli ever! Locals and tourists fill the streets here. Parking can be tough. You must pay attention for a spot, or double park while your driver waits in the car.
I love stopping here to shop when in the Bronx!

The Real Little Italy Tour

Today Gracie Lee Brown took a small group (4) of a tasting tour of the Bronx original little italy. Best small Italian food shops and restaurants around. Very good pizza at Full Moon, great pastries at Artuso's Pastry, great cheese and delicacies at Casa Della Mozarella, delicious homemade pasta and ravioli at Borgatti, wonderful Italian bread at Terranova Bakery. An enjoyable day going from one shop to another checking out all the great food.

America's Best Little Italy

By Little Walter |

Be adventurous; go out of your way; nine miles from Manhattan; a cab ride away; or metered parking on the street; blue-collar; authentic; reasonable prices; warm and friendly people; very safe..in the daytime for sure; something for everyone; bakeries, shops, coffee houses, pizzerias; an indoor market; handmade cigars; restaurants, bars...even a beautiful Catholic church. They have it all. NOT a tourist trap. Very different than Little Ital in Manhattan. This is a real deal. If you go once, you will always go when you visit NYC.

Italian food, imported fresh ingredience, markets with unique items.

By stevejO2955GI |

The restaurants are as authentic as those found in Italy. The markets are full of foods, produce, meats and many items specific to Italian cuisine. The markets are amazing. Parking can be a problem.

Not what I expected

By spoiledrotten1 |

Spent some time here after visiting the NYBG and was expecting something similar to Little Italy in Manhattan. It is not. Had a disappoint meal in an Italian Restaurant and the surrounding blocks just wasn't what I was looking for.

The real deal!

By PG-NY |

Skip Little Italy in Manhattan and visit the real deal in the Bronx. Amazing shopping to get the freshest pasta, cheeses, meats, fish, and other Italian provisions from old world merchants who take great pride in what they do. Special shout out to the ricotta at Calandra and amazing butchers at Peters. Once you're stocked up, visit one of the fabulous restaurants, then head to Delillios for a cappuccino and dessert. A perfect day!

How can you love Italians without loving this area...

By Gene S |

Always fun, lots of friendly people, great eateries, better pastries you can't find anywhere on the planet I think.

Good food and no parking!

By Jennifer P |

It is interesting to see the difference between this neighborhood with what it is surrounded with. You will find different options for dinner and drinking but no parking which is a downer.

A little different than the old days but still good

By JB5445 |

Some of the old stores are gone but replaced with more modern versions including an Italian market where they roll cigars in the front stall. Dominick’s and Enzo’s, my two favorites. Watch the prices in some of the stores because it is now a tourist attraction

Great restaurants

By melgeo6 |

There are s many great restaurants to choose from as well as Italian markets. You could spend a week eating your way through!
zero otto nove was fantastic as was Enzo's

Experience Italy without having to leave NYC. Arthur Ave is this little gem right here in the Bronx. Ate at Mike’s where I was transported into a typical Italian dinner table. Burrata is really good as a starter. My fave- penne ala vodka - so tempted to lick that sauce off the plate. Warning: very busy place & usually need to wait for seating. However, it is so worth it.

The real Little Italy in New York City

By Dolores P |

Arthur Avenue and 187th Street in the Bronx haven't changed all that much in the past 50+ years, so it has, been able to retain its Italian character and most of its iconic family stores and restaurants. It has become a generational family destination, which is why it has survived. Yes, there are lots of tourists, but it is the loyal core who travel from all over year round that have helped preserve these neighborhood stores. There are a few other places where you can purchase high quality Italian foods but not one place where you can get all of them within a few blocks - and at fair prices! Borgati fresh pasta on 187th St (across from Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church) is a huge draw. Just a few doors away is a fresh cheese shop carrying so many varieties including my favorite treat Buratta. The pork store , bakeries, fish mongers, market with stalls (including Mike's Deli which was featured on the Food network), hardware , gift store specializing in party favors, imported housewares and upscale cigar store! Spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants from pizza on up. Get there for a morning cappuccino to soak it all in, bring a cooler bag to store your purchases, stroll the blocks, get lost in the delight of the unique selections in the merchandise stores, feast with your eyes on all the food displayed before making your selections , choose a restaurant for lunch, then go back for the pershibles and finish off with a delicious pastry and coffee!

Best Bronx Spot to Visit Often

By Michele R |

Little Italy has lots to offer - from fine dining to casual dining. Many local mom and pop shops to stop at. Frequent festivals. We dine in many of the restaurants in Little Italy very often and have never been disappointed. Food selection is very diverse - it is not only Italian food in the neighborhood - there is something for everybody.

100th Anniversary of Mario's and Mine.

By frankfbronx |

I went to celebrate my 37th anniversary at Marios in the Bronx little Italy on Arthur Avenue. The restaurant is outstanding. The food, service, and ambience compliment each other. There are a few restaurants on this Avenue, but this has quality food and reasonable prices. Bon Apetit. Francisco🍷

Awful - relying on reputation alone

By StevenHarrison |

After sampling a few of the restaurants, I have no idea what the attraction is. This place is as bad, or perhaps even worse, than Little Italy downtown. No authenticity left as far as the restaurant scene. There's one great little pasta shop but the entire neighborhood is just become rubbish, overpriced, overrated and lacking quality. There is no hint of what real Italian life is like from this place. It's just a waste of time like most of what NYC is becoming. High prices, low quality and Americanized hype.

Lots of fun, beware, no public restrooms.

By Who's O |

Food shopping for the connoisseur. Cheese shop, pork store, bakeries, Italian pastries, general marketplace, breads, pastas, you name it. You can spend most of a day here, nice restaurants, but no public restrooms that we could find.

A must see

By stacey chiarella |

Little Italy in the Bronx is a true classic area. Everyone should check it out. There are many great restaurants and stores.

Great Summer Saturday

We started with coffee and sampled our way along the street. Fantastic cheese and meats, really a great place to visit. Away from the tourists traps and very enjoyable.

The last real little italy

By Ronnie g |

The food stores date back to the last century. The quality can not be found elsewhere. The restaurants source their food locally....always fresh meat, cheese fish and vegetables. If you want to treat yourself to how things use to be visit little Italy but be sure it's the one in the Bronx

Great area

By 4KGC |

Little Italy is a great place to dine al fresco with a multitude of restaurants to chose from. The area has a certain ambience and far superior to Chinatown.

Well worth a visit although not particularly cheap but there again it is New York.

Italy

By Melissa |

Real Italian quality items. The best place to get deli food in the world! You cannot beat the bread in this area, as well as the tasty pastries. Just wish the neighborhood around it wasn't so bad.

It was OK

By Betsy S |

We were really looking forward to Little Italy in the Bronx - but we were disappointed (except for Enzo's - which was great.) There are some nice Italian shops and bakeries - but also a lot of Mexican and Asian shops and restaurants. We were nostalgic for Manhattan's Little Italy (which is now almost gone) but the Bronx little Italy is not much better. I think that the best we have visited are in Philadelphia and the north side of Boston. Also, Greenwich Village Italian section is not bad! We probably won't go back unless we are going to a Yankees game - we will go to Enzo's for dinner.

Authentic Italian

By Sweet Donna |

Beautiful street with many fine shops and restaurants . Nobody bothers you on Arthur Ave in the Bronx . It feel like you have gone back in time to the way things use to be . We love Arthur Ave . Authentic Italian .

Forget the other "Little Italy" ...

By Stephan G |

„Little Italy“ of he Bronx is all around „Arthur Avenue“ and „East 187th Street“. The destrict is actually called „Belmont“. Both streets are lined with delis, bakeries, cafes and various different Italian merchants. Where as the „Little Italy“ in Downtown Manhattan is a place more for tourists, is the „Little Italy“ of the Bronx considered to be the real deal.
In the 1950th many Italians immigrated to the Bronx. Because housing was cheaper up there and still is ompared with Lower Manhattan.

Shopping for holidays

By Antonio C |

As we do our holiday shopping we always have great food, find great great stores and meet great people, but most of all you can’t stop eating.

One of my favorite places!

By vegman58 |

I grew up on Morris park, worked in Hunts point for almost 25years. Moved to Long Island, Arthur Ave has always been a favorite place for us to visit. Love the shops and the restaurants. Great place to spend a afternoon just walking and window shopping or grabbing something to eat. Best Italian bread and some of best restaurants are right here! Bronx Zoo and the Botanical gardens are really close by also. So while everyone is going out to the Hamptons we went to "The Bronx" and had a great time.

Always worth a stop!

By Hiker1812 |

I have a rule - when we visit anyone/anything in the Bronx, we stop at Arthur Ave. The variety of good and food, to say nothing of the atmosphere, is always worth the stop. Look for amazing bread, pastries, coffee, and any meat you can think of!

Best Place To Go For Authentic Italian Cuisine! !

Walking around this gem of an area has an old world feel, with excellent restaurants and market ,reminiscent of the old neighborhood.

Little Italyish

By FrequentTripster |

Rather disappointing and mostly a collection of restaurants. Other businesses are multi-cultural with many latin influenced establishments

If you like Italian food, this is a little piece of heaven!

By Cyreese |

Say Little Italy in New York and chances are you'll be directed to Mulberry Street in lower Manhattan. But those who really know the city head for the Bronx and the less-congested Little Italy up and down Arthur Avenue - near Fordham University's Rose Hill campus. Many good, reasonably priced restaurants - Rigaletto and Amelia's come to mind, Italian delis, fish market, pastry shops, market, etc. Just a little trivia: in the original Godfather movie, Al Pacino shoots the corrupt cop and mafia rival in Louie's, a ficticious restaurant with great veal in the Bronx's Little Italy. You won't find Louie's on Arthur Avenue, but you will find the great veal!

A time in the Bronx

Great place to visit

By michelle1375 |

Stayed in the Bronx for a few days- went to little Italy & ate @ some great places. Saw the sites just like the pictures they post on Facebook! The sausage chandelier is a must! You can't go wrong wherever you go for dinner, pizza, pastries or a little shopping- Arthur Ave is great!!

Delightful Oldtime Ethnic NY Neighborhood

By Mark W |

Through all the years, I keep coming back to Arthur Avenue, and I’m not remotely Italian. Welcoming to all, Arthur Avenue re-creates the old ethnic neighborhoods which used to characterize New York. Restaurants, bakeries, indoor pushcart shopping malls, but also safe streets and easy public parking.

Relatively small area - but worth it if you are nearby in upper Manhattan or The Bronx.

By cavu0531 |

A few good restaurants. Has about 20% of the feel of little Italy in Manhattan. But - beggars can't be choosers.

Little Oasis

By Paugh S |

Not what you expect in this area of the Bronx. One block one way or the other and you don't feel very safe or welcomed unless from that area. The food prices can be a bit high in some restaurants. The Sushi place is one of the best in the area. The market there inside the building is the favorite place to visit. Its definitely a nice area to visit.

Quite fun--shops, markets, and dining

By jaz79h |

Worth a visit if you're in the Bronx and curious to explore. Good restaurants (I liked Zero Otto Nove), but even more fun for the shops (e.g., get raw oysters on the street at Cosenza's Seafood), check out the market or many places where people roll cigars, and also the bakeries, meat, and cheese shops.

Little Italy of the Bronx - Arthur Ave

By Linda M |

Always a great place to visit. The restaurants and the stores and of course the FOOD are incredible. It's like being in Italy and at the same time like being in NYC the Bronx 60-70 years ago.

Better than Manhattan’s Little Italy.

By Brian T |

For many visitors to New York City, their only foray into The Bronx will be to visit Bronx Zoo or the nearby New York Botanical Gardens, to go to a game at The Yankee Stadium. It’s previous reputation as an area for gang activities and poverty stricken neighbourhoods has shifted considerable In recent years, and the borough has witnessed significant development. Still, visitors are wary, and very reticent to step away from these three main attractions and to explore a bit further afield.

One area of The Bronx which should be visited is Little Italy which stretches along Arthur Avenue in the Belmont district of The Bronx. An authentic Italian culture thrives here, and creates a truly vibrant community within the wider area of The Bronx, and it deserves a visit. Little Italy sustains a thriving business district that includes excellent restaurants, high-quality artisanal food shops, and specialty stores carrying handmade local and imported items that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Charming old-world ambiance emanates from the generations of Italian families who continue to give the area a welcoming small-town character that is unique for an urban setting.

Just wander the stretch between E Fordham Road and E 183rd Street. There are some great coffee shops serving excellent coffee (unlike many other parts of New York City), some decent bakeries for your ciabatta and focaccia , and numerous restaurants for a bite to eat. You’ll find some really good fish and meat markets, as well as a number go delicatessens for your olives, preserved meats and cheeses. Explore some of the side streets Arthur Avenue and you you’ll discover other things, such as the lovely Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

As with visiting any new area, you need to use the same "street smart" mentality and common sense you would use where you come from.

I really enjoyed seeing and experiencing this vibrant neighbourhood; I found it more authentic than the ‘Little Italy’ neighbourhood in Manhattan.

Great little surprise

By Smb1600 |

Area is really authentic, enjoyed walking around and going in shops and trying and buying great stop

A few blocks but fun area

By Love4Travel616 |

We were driving in the Bronx and stopped by to check out the famous Arthur Avenue and "the little Italian in the Bronx" I'm glad we stopped by. We ate lunch at Full Moon Pizzeria and had dessert at Egidio Pastry. I enjoyed walking down the streets and checking out the shops, restaurants etc. I actually like this area better than the one in Manhattan because manhattans little area is filled with tourists and doesn't even genuine. This Little Italy still has the authenticity I was hoping for. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!

Be Careful!

By euscarol |

While you might think you are in a quaint charming section of NYC you need to be very careful. There are juvenile delinquents on bikes harrassing young women and grabbing jewelry off unsuspecting tourists. I observed this while walking down Arthur Ave. Do not let your guard down and watch out for these kids terrorizing tourists. Stay away at night. Food is very average and overpriced.

Little Italy, The Bronx

By Keke L |

I grew up on the other side of Saint Barnabas Hospital. The hospital sits between Monterey, where I lived and the entrance to Little Italy of the Bronx. We just called it Little Italy.
It was close enough to walk to, even everyday. It was always nice to be there on a warm day. It is where I got clams on the half shell with lemon juice. They were sold right outside on the corner. I would walk the indoor market, it's still there today. I would take in the sights, the smells, holding my breath from the strong fish scents. Everything, (restaurants and stores) was Italian back then and I liked that.
Going back I saw how much has changed. Cell phone stores, dormitories, a Halal bodega and a lot of tourist. The changes really bothered me. But, the pulse is still there, so, the heartbeat of Italy remains. For that, I Thank all that is good.

a great place to go shopping they have great pizza, and great patery too I just love walking around here plus right down the block there is the Bronx Zoo that you can visit too?

tasteful slices of cakes

By Marilyn R |

so daughter and i are always inside the arthur avenue retail market to buy fresh vegetables, this time we ate there. there is a mini bakery inside the market. if you are coming from arthur ave the entrance is there, that's where the bakery is, on the right side. so we decided to try to their slice cakes. we shared an oreo cookie cheesecake. price of the slice $5.47. we tasted the cake, it was good. they have coffee, hot chocolate, not many slices of cakes or pastry to chose from. but stop by there.

So much better than the 'other' Little Italy

By geebeeee |

So much food...so much history. It's like you stepped back in time. Totally worth trip. Great place to stop before a Yankee Game too!

Character and Tradition

By Edward K |

We spent a great Sunday on Arthur and Belmont Avenue and completed a fantastic day with a lunch at Antonio's restaurant. The streets and shops call out tradition and a feel of Little Italy is much better that the Manhattan Bigger Brother. People have time for you on Arthur Avenue and in a big city like NY that is something to cherish. If you are in New York make this one of your 'to do' items on your list.

A great place to go food shopping

By McJasper99 |

This is a terrific place do go food shopping. I often refer to it as an "Italian American Shopping District," much moreso than an Italian neighborhood. It's a great place to get very fresh and good food of all kinds at very reasonable prices. I do not think, however, that the Italian restaurants here are notable. The Albanian restaurants, however, are and surely worthwhile of a visit for affordable and tasty fare that is hard to find in this country outside of the Bronx. It is also worthwhile to visit the beautiful Catholic church of Our Lady of Mt Carmel on E. 187th St. and Hughes Ave.

Underwhelmed

By walterw457 |

Not having been to this area before I can't compare its current business and cultural environment to that time when it earned the reputation as Little Italy. There are definitely some Italian bakeries and restaurants in the area but there seems to be an equally represented Spanish speaking population. From the reviews we'd hoped for more of a unique walk down the block, filled with the aroma of numerous Italian restaurants and shops. We got very little of that. I won't return.

A Great Place for Authentic Italian experiences

By PCJackson |

2hr Walking tour of the local streets and Famous Arthur Ave. Great Food tasting along the way and met some beautiful and very friendly locals. Out Tour Guide was MARCOS who was just fabulous and very passionate and knowledgeable about his neighbourhood.

Great old tradition

By Pat M |

Great old place to visit and help keep it going. Please help keep these long time food and gift shops going. Visit the old Little Italy feeling and keep old things alive and historic. Mom N Pop shops are friendly, kind and full of history. You don't need to be Italian to see and explore Little Italy and this beautiful market.
God Bless America and God Bless Little Italy.

Fresh Market/Fabulous Food!

If at the NY Botanical Garden or the Bronx Zoo, I highly recommend you wander a couple of blocks over to Arthur Avenue! Fabulous Italian food at Mike's Deli; artisan breads; fresh vegetables abound at the neighborhood markets. Excellent place to shop and/or eat!

The real "Little Italy" of NYC

By Sax_Doc |

Forget about Little Italy in Manhattan as it has become too commercial. This is it! Stroll in and out of the quaint shops and stores around Arthur Ave for hours. Just bring a cooler so you can take home the perishables! Stop buy for a cappuccino and pastry in any number of coffee shops. Save room for dinner at zero otto nove or Dominicks!

Great food.

By michelleshark66 |

You can take a tour or just walk around to all the great bakeries or food stores and find your favorite Italian dishes! The best bread that you will ever find and friendliest people willing to help you make your choices.

we live close to little so we go often. the neighborhood has changed a lot. my husband enjoys the clam bar and the kid enjoy the festivals and the galatto

Lost a Little Luster

By BobLeblaw |

While this is still a nice spot to visit, it's lost a little of its luster and charm, as it's become more like the Manhattan version of Little Italy; geared more to tourists than local people. Still, make a point of visiting, but it was WAY cooler when I was a child here.

Great food found here!

By Shaval123 |

After a trip to The Bronx Zoo we were hungry so decided to go to Arthur Avenue in Little Italy. My grandson was visiting NY for the first time and he was leaving for Navy boot camp the following week. He never had a cannoli and that was on his bucket list of things to do.

We went to Tony & Tina's Pizzeria for dinner. They have been in business many years so we thought it would be a good place to have dinner. The people were friendly and the food was delicious (except I thought the pasta could have used some salt). We had eggplant parmesan, chicken cutlet parses an, and spaghetti and meatballs. Delicious bread with olive oil for dipping is brought to the table when you are seated. All in all the portions were large and the food was good.

We decided to go to a pastry shop for our dessert. There was one right on the same street as the restaurant. The lines were long so we knew it would be good. It was! We bought an assortment of pastries to take home.

We had a great time and my grandson had his cannoli.

The real NYC little Italy

By jamesbro49 |

Arthur avenue is the real deal, unlike the rapidly shrinking and gentrified tourist trap of Mulberry St. Quality Italian restaurants abound, really authentic bakeries for bread and cookies, and wonderful butchers for meat. Always fun to visit for eating and drinking, and bringing home lots of goodies!

Strolling through Little Italy - Eating One Cannoli @ A Time!

By Cheryl A |

I happened to find myself with a sweet tooth after dinner in the Bronx and wandered about this cute town. I shopped around, had a few drinks, and stopped at a few local spots for dessert. Super cute, especially for date night.

Food, Food, Food

By Brian C. |

The title says it all. Arthur Ave in Little Italy is absolutely amazing. The food, desserts, coffee shops, and cigar lounges are outstanding. You can try fresh clams at street-side or work your way into one of the many markets along the Ave. This is one of the few places you feel safe while walking in NY! This review could go on forever. Ya just have to experience it for yourself....

The idea is better than the reality

By fnct |

Don't get me wrong, still a good place to eat at many local restaurants. Also still enough stores to buy bread, pastry, pasta. Also several butchers and specialty shops.

The area lacks charm and would not go there for a walk through.

I still enjoy going there to go to the in door market, buy lunch and pass the time with a friend or to. Take home your favorite food stuffs.

It's the Real Thing!

By George C |

Little Italy in the Bronx is the best place to go to have an "Italian-American" experience. If you plan to do some shopping with some lunch added in you must go to Tino's Deli on Arthur Avenue. You can buy authentic Italian foods and there is seating for hot dishes, brick oven pizza, and Italian coffee.

Little Italy

By Lolly’s Look |

Arthur Avenue is the Little Italy in the Bronx. The area has the best Italian dining, restaurants, pastry shops, pork stores, grocers, coffee shops and pizzerias. During Covid they have outdoor dining that is comfortable. We enjoyed a beautiful Sunday afternoon and evening here after Christmas

A Gem for Italian Tradition!

By John R |

What a wonderful place to get a "taste of Italy." From Pastries to Pasta one can find it all. I enjoy the area for the feel of the Italian descendants. There are restaurants and businesses that are family run for generations. One can find quality imported products in every store. The area is fun for all. It gets packed with College Students from the local University and people come from all areas to visit. The food is worth the trip! Visiting Arther Avenue for the Ferraagosto Festival is on my bucket list. The area is already so lively, I am looking forward to seeing how much more festive it can be. All the places are walking distance from one another. I recommend a stroll through and then pick out a place for Lunch or Dinner, then find a place for an expresso and Gelato then find places to stack up food to bring home. Pick out great bread, mozzarella, prosciutto, imported olive oil or even a cigar. One will enjoy a day in Little Italy of the Bronx.

This is the real Little Italy - it is in The Bronx NOT Manhattan

This is the real Little Italy - it is in The Bronx NOT Manhattan. Great shops for cheese, breads, sandwiches, Italian specialities, hand made cigars, and great places to eat.

The Jewel of The Bronx!

By Marc S |

The shops, bakeries, and restaurants are second to none. If you want to dine there, you can't go wrong. If you want to buy it there and cook at home, you're a winner! This is one of New York City's Iconic Neighborhoods. The history, culture, and people set it apart from any other neighborhood in the city. Have some espresso and pastries in the morning. Stop at any of the famous restaurants for lunch or dinner. Take a piece of Little Italy home with you! I was raised in the area. It is part of who I am. Oh, don't forget Catania's Pizza Parlor for the best calzones that you ever tasted.

SURPRISING

By farasham2017 |

Honestly, I enjoyed more in this Little Italy in the Bronx than the one in Manhattan. The area is very romantic, so traditional, nice to walk around and there are enough restaurants to choose.

Little Italy

By Lolly’s Look |

The Little Italy of the Bronx has some of the best restaurants and shops. They are small mom and pop family owned that offer authentic Italian food with tastes like your family cooked.

Tourist

By Bbmbame |

Came in town to visit family and they shop regularly on Arthur Ave. We tagged along and enjoyed all the shops and bakeries. It's a look back to a still ever present culture of Italian immigrants and now their children. Stayed for an early dinner and worth a visit if in NYC/Bronx

Still has great restaurants

By franny712 |

My last trip to Arthur Ave we went to Amelia's which is two doors down from the famous Rigaletto's. The food was great, the service was wonderful and the owners were delightful. If your in town try to make it to Amelia's, you will real happy you did

Very nice but very little

By Maso007 |

Had a nice lunch and walk from uptown. The street is worth the visit. Be careful with the restaurant. Not all of them are real Italians and authentic.

Always a fun time to stop at on the way back from a METS Game . . . The restaurants are superb and if you are just shopping for the supressa Italian cold cuts canolis and more cant be beat . .also if ya catch Feast of San . . . when they have street fairs always a killer time

On weekends in the fall, they close the street to traffic and it’s one huge fleamarket. A bit pricy to eat but lots of fun

My Favorite Little Italy

This street is the original Little Italy and I stand by that statement. I live by here so I go here all the time for groceries/food/hanging out. I like the atmosphere; it is very home-y. People are friendly and there is always a lot going on.

Go with an appetite

By smiling4unow |

Bus tours to NYBG always like make a side trip to Arthur Ave. Do some investigating so you know where to eat and shop. There are a lot of restaurants and places to buy authentic Italian foods so if you don't have any ideas, you'll be wandering around. Do your homework. PS if you're not Italian don't expect foods to taste the same as your big box grocery store. Worth the visit.

Be there early

By offthepace2 |

If your shopping on a Saturday, get there early. If it’s near the holidays extra early.
It was once declared the SAFEST NEIGHBORHOOD in the USA IN 1980 by the NY Daily news. Now it’s it retains one of the best Italian food shopping areas around.
The memories of old Arthur ave are long gone. But the tradition of good Italian food continues

Really fun area to visit

By betteskid |

We walked around here and sampled the shops and restaurants on a recent visit to NYC. The afternoon was really a lot of fun and the area had an authentic feel. We found parking easily (we drove from Manhattan) and could have explored more. We came home with really delicious cheeses, salumi, pasta, and terrific left-overs from lunch at Mike's Deli. This side-trip is lots of fun and I would recommend it.

A visit after the Botanical Gardens

By RMonihan |

I'd never been to Arthur Avenue, so after several hours at the Botanical Gardens, we made the short trip down to Arthur Ave. What a lively place! GREAT Italian food - we got cheeses and desserts to take home after we had a wonderful meal at one of the restaurants.
A great place to stop in.

Wonderful Excursion

By shf13 |

Read lots of reviews prior to going. We decided to give it a try. Wonderful experience. Love the authenticity. Lots of great pork shops. Loved the retail market. Great restaurants. Easy access from Pelham Parkway. Take the number 5 train to Pelham Parkway (NOT PELHAM BAY). Take the Bx12 bus by the Zoo and the Botanical Gardens a few blocks and you are there. Highly recommend.

This Italian hood has shrunk over the years but still has heart of the ol days with a great market [see Mikes deli and Peters Butcher],Arthur Ave shops and restaurants still with that old charm of yesterday. The notables like Dominicks ,Mario's ,Ann and Tonys ,Robertos are still great and additional places [zero notto ] have sprung up along 187th too .BY FAR the BEST mootz you ever had along with all the Italian goodies are at Casa Della on 187th! Best bread at Modonia and Terranova and for pasta a must is Borgatti's on 187th .FIsh markets on Arthur Ave still serve clams at the bar and the freshest fish anywhere .CHEAP! with a great fresh selection. Stroll along the Ave and 187th and you will feel the vibes of Belmont Mt Carmel like the old days with a feeling of real italian .

Tradition

By Lolly’s Look |

Visiting Little Italy in the Bronx on Arthur Avenue is a family tradition for us. It's a great visit to walk the avenue check out the shops. Get some provisions and have a great meal at the many Italian restaurants.

Whoever made a bar out of the market place ruined the neighborhood vibe

By Lizette G |

I have lived in the Bronx all my life and remember what little Italy was like. The fresh food and pastries as my mom would take me there on weekends. Glad to see places like Enzo that bring back beautiful memories but then the neighborhood has changed for the worse with this Bronx Beer Hall. It attracts a negative element into this classy neighborhood. The smell of cannolis and garlic knots is replaced by what appear to be homeless looking peeps and the stink of marijuana. This shady crowd belongs in nyc bowery not little italy. Shame to see the neighborhood decline. Its worse the first week of the month when DJs play music. Tons of underage drinking and drugs.

A Hidden Gem

By Donnalynn323 |

With all the hype about "Arthur Avenue" in Little Italy; I expected a little more quaintness, and cobblestone streets. Not like this at all! But, I must share with you the secret gems that were found.
We searched for a restaurant for lunch. At the time, nothing really caught my eye. We walked in and out of all the stores. There was a variety of cheeses to taste and spicy Italian sausage in CALABRIA PORK STORE. We ordered an Italian sandwich from them. It was so delicious that I sent my husband back to purchase another! YUMMY ❤️. This was better than any restaurant we could have eaten at!
We also ordered cannoli' from MADONIA BAKERY. Being of Italian decent, I have to say these were one of the best cannoli's I have eaten. The cream was fresh and the shell crispy. In fact, they were filled while you waited. Oh, by the way.... they were only $2.00 each!

Authentic Italian-Americana preserved in the Bronx

By Nicholas K |

Charming little neighborhood off of the beaten path. Excellent food and drink options distributed over a classically New York neighborhood. The Arthur Avenue market and surrounding shops preserve iconic aspects of Italian-American culture.

Lots and lots of bread/pastry shops!

By Victoria T |

Glad I have been, because I won't be going again! Quite a tatty street with shops selling tawdry goods, and most of the pastry shops all sell the same product. The Market was small, and hard to get around, don't go on a Sunday most of it is closed!

Walking Tour

By 2moons02 |

This community is a real gem. The area has many businesses that have been here for up to 100 years, from homemade pasta, salami, bread, cheeses & more you will find the owners happily chatting with customers in every shop. Surprisingly the area has no panhandlers & no homeless people begging making for a very pleasant visit. Definitely worth a visit.

The Italian Market is an experience with some interesting choices. And don't pass up the individual butcher and bakery shops along the street. Enjoy and bring your appetite!

Little Italy in the Bronx

By Susan G |

So much to see - Italian restaurants, delis, pastry shops, etc. A taste of Italy in the Bronx. I love Dominicks for dinner - no menu and family style tables. Fresh food. when you are ready to leave you are just told the amount of your check. Interesting!

This is a neighborhood experience not just a single place

By MARKLI |

Best cheese at Calandra...everything here is the best quality...good pancetta there too..Egideo's for pastry on 187th, Addeo's for the best bread Teitel Brothers for the best prices on stuffed peppers....the neighborhood is loaded with good places and ethnic diversity...whenever I am in the neighborhood for work and I can get parking I just get out and walk and find all kinds of delicacies to bring home

Good Eating

By plentyoftime |

Cafe Mercado in the Public Market building offers a scrumptious slice of pizza. Mike’s also in the Market offers a great Italian Eggplant Parmigiana. Consider Emilia’s for a leisurely lunch or dinner offering a menu your Italian nona can understand at prices Manhattan dinners would envy. Before heading home stop into Madonia’s Bread store for a fresh whole wheat pane de casa not to mention their famous olive or procuitto bread. Across the street, Morrone’s Pastry offers great cookies and Italian pastries. Grab a table order your cappuccino and pick your pastry. Be sure to leave the guilt behind. Casa di Mozzarella on 187th Street offers freshly made mozzarella that keeps one begging for another slice. Borgatti ‘s further down the block offers freshly prepared pasta and ravioli that are truly world class. Known as Arthur Avenue to the locals, it offers a taste of the Bronx that will have you coming back for more.

If you want to feel all of the feels of Christmas in New York, go to Arthur Avenue and have a coffee and a cannoli in a sidewalk Caffe. Watch the locals line up at the the butcher. Take a number and buy cookies to take home at a bakery. This is a uniquely NY experience!

A little Italian gem

By Alexander R |

I have spent much time in Little Italy growing up, and still to this day since I worked in the area for the last several years. I have seen much change as many Italian businesses have been taken over by new immigrant groups, however the charm of the area still remains. There are still numerous excellent Italian restaurants. A market that carries some excellent foods and hard to find items. The Italian bread is still the best I have ever had and you can still get real imported items like great olive oils, and cheeses. Little Italy is still a great place to visit and I hope will remain for years to come. Be sure to take home some bread, you won't regret it.

Just ok

By Mike G |

It was OK but does not compare to the little Italy in southern Manhattan. It is only about two blocks long and there are other non Italian restaurants/businesses (Mexican, middle eastern, etc.) mixed in.

Old New York, Old New York in living color.

By Avrumeleh B |

I took a friend of mine from Italy here. He's in the artisanal and gourmet food business in Italy and so he wanted to see what the Bronx's "Little Italy" is like. We walked around the streets there, looked at the indoor market, and at the individual food shops on Arthur Avenue...and then had a great lunch in one of the many Italian restaurants in the neighborhood. It was a fine experience. I've been told that this "Arthur Avenue neighborhood" isn't "like it used to be." Well, what is? I'm not sure what that means other than to surmise that it was even bigger at one time and has gotten smaller than it was in some past "glory days." Even if true, this is still a vibrant neighborhood with lots of character. It does harken back to another time when NYC neighborhoods were more tight-knit than now, but that, IMHO, is a good thing. Visiting this neighborhood and having a good Italian meal there is worth the trip, especially if your from out of town. Do it!

Fun at Christmas!

Little Italy

What a wonderful place to visit. You have your pick of amazing Italian restaurants. My goal is to work my way through all of them. In addition you can also visit various bakeries with wonderful baked goods to take home. You can also visit the various markets and pick up just about any Italian delicacy you may want. It’s a wonderful place to visit when your hungry or not because eventually you will get hungry and they are ready for you.

We walked here after visiting the Bronx Botanical Gardens, maybe 2 miles away? Arthur street is a collection of fabulous Italian restaurants, each with a long wait on a Saturday evening. When planning ahead, best to make a reservation. Neat little area.

Go back in time, enjoy the shopping and the eats

By Van1930 |

The allure of Arthur Avenue in this Little Italy is the shopping. There are many restaurants and you can see individual reviews for them. Some are better than others. But the shopping... how many places exist where if you want bread, you go the bread store. If you want fresh fish, you go to the fish store, if you want pork, you go to the pork store, if you want meat, you go to the butcher etc. Its a wonderful experience and if you want to buy good food to prepare your own meal, there is no better place. There are also wine stores that offer excellent selections, an enclosed market with many specialties, including one that specializes in organ meats, hoofs etc.
I go once a month at least to stock up.

So cool!

By Fireandice29 |

I’ve been to a handful of Little Italys, China Towns, etc. But this by far was the best experience! There are SO many places to see. Shops, restaurants, and cafes. Having also been to Italy, I can tell you the goods that are sold are as authentic as you can get! Finally, the people are wonderful! The workers in the shops and restaurants, and even locals on the street! They welcomed us as tourists and helped point us to their favorite places!

By jer b |

You can find just about everything here on Arthur Avenue. Great restaurants (Emilia's), cheese shops, pastry shops, bakeries, fish hops, meat shops, etc. Bring a cooler. If you can go during the work week, do it. Far less crowded. If you get there early, park on the street of in the municipal parking lot (3 hour limit). Stroll and check out what is available in all the shops and compare prices. Great food outing and so much more convenient than going into Manhattan.

It's the bread that makes the street

By Sheryl T |

The smell of fresh baked bread, a great Italian loaf is intoxicating. You have to eat it within the first day or two or it gets too hard. It brings back memories of 55 years ago and growing up in the neighborhood.

Love walking around Little Italy. Everyone is so friendly. Buying fresh, authentic Italian goods and foos is the best! Being a BIG cooler with lots of ice and prepare to cook like the best Italian chefs when you get home...

Maybe it’s better...

By Alan Butler |

I came here on a Sunday during a ridiculously hot day, so the place was pretty dead. I didn’t really see anything that special here that warranted me making the trip up from downtown Manhattan. I am probably wrong, but I didn’t see anything that special about the place. But maybe it’s different in a Saturday or a weekday. So don’t take my word, go see for yourself.

Great Italian stores.

By Dakota |

Many great Italian restaurants, meat stores.pastry shops and delis all in a walkable area. All of the food we have tried there has been excellent.

Best Italian Food west of Italy!

By chriskF8978AV |

Authentic Italian food all within walking distance to Botanical Garden. Each restaurant is better than the next. Loved trying the coffee houses and dining alfresco. Worth a visit. I felt like I was in Italy yet so close to home. Excellent food.

Great gift and coffee maker shop.

By Ron L |

Just went here and a must see place....was shopping and decide to get an espresso machine....The very best in quality, service and price. Purchased a refurbished Olympia Cremini that needed a bit of fine tuning. John and staff went way out of their way to make sure my vintage espresso machine ran like new. Amazing coffee selection especially from Italy at extremely reasonable prices. Unique gifts, more coffee makers and accessories than you can imagine. A true find in the " Little Italy of The Bronx" , worthy of "A Bronx Tale".

A very good experience

We had Lunch and then walked to a grocery store that made fresh mozzarella cheese and gave samples. The trip is worth it if you go during slow times.

Randazzo fish market

By Gerrie B |

If you want to go to get the best fresh seafood for you and your family go to Randazzo in The Bronx. The place doesn’t have a fishy smell. The two guys that manages the place (frank and Joe)are two of the nicest guys you can meet. I go there regularly and I am on a first name basis with them and even the workers. The price is very reasonable and the variety of fish and seafood is absolutely abundant. Please take the time to check out this wonderful seafood market located in little Italy in The Bronx on Arthur avenue. You will not be disappointed.

Great collection of Italian restaurants & bakeries

By christopherbO9687MP |

The Little Italy in the Bronx on Arthur Avenue has a great collection of Italian restaurants & bakeries; the kind of neighborhood that once existed on Manhattan. Note that parking is always a problem in this crowded neighborhood, the 15-20 minute walk from the nearby Fordum Avenue train station may save you time & aggravation over circling looking for a parking space.

Mangia!

By UrbanNYC |

Food, food, food! Delicious..Authentic Italian. We go very often. All prices - nice sit-down restaurants, pizza, delis,, coffee (expresso and cappuccino) and pastries, clam bars, a large market with a beer hall. Specialty food stores for cheese,(Casa de Mozzarella, Calandras) fresh pasta, produce, all Italian ingredients,(Teitels) bread, Italian cooking utensils and appliances. We actually met a couple visiting from Italy who loved it. Reasonable prices. Near the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Garden (great places to visit) and we often combine them with Arthur Ave. Check the hours. Some stores may be closed Sunday and Monday. See the diversity of NYC. Fun and festive.

No Parking, Too Crowded

This is a tourist trap. Most of the restaurants have mediocre Italian food. You can get better elsewhere. Arthur Avenue has a storied past. But it's in the past.

Walking Tour Little Italy - The Bronx, NY

By robert b |

After a trip to the Bronx Zoo on a Saturday in May my Italian wife & I headed over to Little Italy for lunch. It's less than 10 minutes away from the Zoo. Punch in Arthur Avenue the Bronx on your GPS and it will guide you right there. Parking is always tight but we found a metered space we reserved for (3) hours. We felt very comfortable walking in the neighborhood.

We started our walking tour at Antonio's Trattoria restaurant at 2370 Belmont Ave for a great lunch; house salad, side of meatballs and large cheese pizza. The pizza was so big we brought half home! A true Italian experience.

We headed out to Addeo & Sons Bakery at 2372 Hughes Ave. for fresh loaves and rolls then over to Egidio Pastry at 622 E. 187th St for cannoli's, cookies & éclairs. No trip to Little Italy, The Bronx is complete without a stop at the Arthur Ave Retail Market 2344 Arthur Ave. Fresh Italian meats, cheeses and spices available along with Italian T-shirts and trinkets. The whole neighborhood alive and bustling. A great way to be Italian for the Day! The Boyers - Wilmington, DE

Little Italy Bronx Style

By Edward B |

While Manhattan’s Little Italy is more well-known,
and perhaps a touch better in its gustatory offerings,
Arthur Avenue is more of a departure to another
time and place. In both instances, the Little Italy’s
look and taste nothing like “Big Italy.” They are
unapologetically Italian-American, a distinct hybrid.
Arthur Avenue though is more populated with
Italian speakers and this strip of restaurants, stores,
markets, bakeries, butchers and the like, are
wholly uninterrupted by outsiders. A lovely selection
of perfectly fresh oysters are shucked in front
of a fish market and happily slurped by passersby.
On a Saturday afternoon Enzo’s restaurant,
like a number of other standbys, is almost full
for lunch, serving freshly prepared, wholesome,
tasty and rustic dishes to a satisfied clientele.
Cerini’s Coffee and Gifts is a coffee lovers dream
with 20 or more brands of Italian espresso beans
along with every possible brewing mechanism,
condiment and more. Busy and cheerful, intense
discussions in both English and Italian debate
the fine points of life as a barista. For a sweet
escape to a community of character and charm,
head to Arthur Avenue for a few hours!

So happy that with NYC always changing this little area remains the same. Great food, people and space.

My favorite area to visit for THE BEST pastries!!! Artuso’s is my favorite pastry shop and I have been coming here since a baby! Literally every we come back to visit we stop in and now my kids love it as well. There’s other pastry shop and bakeries as well. I will stop in and support them as well next trip out! Simply delicious and you can taste the love and authenticity!

Little Italy

Much smaller than in other areas/city but very nice and has good food. Had a great sandwich in Mike's deli which was huge and very tasty while service is slow.
Atmosphere is also very nice.

Extensive collection of Italian-themed restaurants & shops

By christopherbO9687MP |

Arthur Avenue seems to have taken over NYC's role of a classic Italian-themed commercial district, with an extensive collection of restaurants & shops. A great place to browse and pick up a few items.

Nice place to visit especilay if you go during their festival. It does get crowded but nonetheless I enjoyed all the awesome food.

A good day- but parking is difficult.

By Stephen P |

Little Italy in the Bronx- is "little." It has gotten smaller over the years. My wife and I just went on a weekend and it is very, very difficult to find a parking space. After driving around a lot- we finally found one right on Arthur avenue. The are mini meters everywhere. I actually brought some quarters to make it easy- for the max- 2 hours. I think that is the perfect amount of time to eat- and walk around a bit. We have been a few times before. The restaurants are good as are the bakeries. The Italian market is small- but fun to walk around. We purchased some fresh sausages- only $4.99 per pound. Overall a lovely way to spend a few hours- if you are willing to deal with the parking. We actually went to the NY Botanical Gardens on the same day. It is less than 2 miles from each other.

Somehow Little Italy doesn’t feel like I’m in the Bronx. From the authentic meals and feel, to the layout of the neighborhood, this is a stable in the lives of many Bronxites. Whethwr you want fresh baked goods or fresh fish, or just a leisure stroll surrounded by smells of temptation, this is the place for you.

Inauthentic Italian

By FoodObsessed44 |

Perhaps 1-2 generations ago this was 'real' Italian, but I struggle to see a single Italian person when in this neighborhood - everyone is Albanian. The food is average if you've ever eaten good quality Italian food - nothing egregious, but certainly don't go out of your way to come here. Prices are on the high side for the Bronx, and neighborhood is dirty. Parking can be a struggle as well. Very overrated.

Massively overpriced...but still worth it regardless.

By Michael L |

The food is overpriced but great at just about any restaurant you got to here. There really is no other place left that gets you real Italian food is a proper setting. The service at literally any of the many fine restaurants here is always above average and you feel welcome even if you forget to make a reservation.

Despite the prices and because of the great service I always try to make it there at least once a month. Try it out, just be prepared to pay for the experience and all will work out fine.

More quite Little Italy

By Hernandez1697 |

What can I said. Little Italy in the Bronx, never imagine. So different of Little Italy in Manhattan, lot of places to choose and a really good market with fresh food. I found it more friendly because its not a so crowded street and have a huge selection of good places to eat. Zero Otto Nove really good, but I'm sure that other restaurants have the same or better quality than that one. But you have to choose one and it was perfect. If not that one, another I'm sure would be perfect too. Walk thru Fordham Road or take a taxi and visit something different at the Bronx.

Great afternoon attraction

By DJMXX |

Spent about 3 hours in total including a relaxing lunch, shopping in all the key shops and the covered market and a coffee/bakery snack stop. We lucked out with free parking on the street. Super close to the Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. Great activity for a sunny Saturday (the market is closed on Sunday).

Stroll the avenue of Italy

By marie s |

We went for the afternoon to shop for fresh pasta, cheeses like being in Italy, the cafes for expresso and pastries, bread from heaven and to stroll the streets and shops of Italy. Arthur Avenue cannot be beat. Just remember to bring cash, not all places take credit cards. The ravioli and noodle shop had fresh spinach pasta (which you choose your size from a cardboard cutout) and fresh cavatelli the day we were there. The ravioli comes in cheese, meat, spinach etc.etc. we always bring a cooler with ice to transport our shopping home to Long Island. We went to the Arthur Avenue Market where we bought lamb sausage and gorgeous short ribs to take home. You can find flavored oils, produce, cheese galore or anything Italian you want. Take the time to visit Arthur Avenue, you won't be sorry!

Excellent choices of Italian food

By Mark S |

Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, also called Little Italy of the Bronx is a fantastic several block stretch of the street lined with great Italian restaurants, cafes, dessert / pastry shops and markets. The famous Arthur Avenue bakery is here and you can't go wrong with any of the great Italian restaurants that have been here for decades. There are a few meat markets, pastry shops for coffee and Italian cookies and of course cannolies. It's very lovely outdoors from April to November and just wandering down the street and stopping in at any restaurant is a good choice.

Love the Arthur Avenue Shopping Area

By NewYorkRobin |

Best place in The Bronx for pizza at Full Moon Pizzeria, bread at Artusi’s, all types of goodies at Arthur Avenue Market.

You Can't Go Wrong on Arthur Avenue

By tullio7 |

Just a great place to walk from shop to shop, or from bakery to Bakery or Restaurant to Restaurant. there are literally too many to choose from. right off of Fordham Road and close to /Fordham University. You can walk through at night and smell the bread baking and you watch the older Italian women sitting on their stoops in the Summer. If you have never been before rent the film " A Bronx Tale" with Robert DeNiro and Chass Palminterri. It is all about this neighborhood and features some of it's actual residents. Just a great place to visit and it is affordable.

Seems more authentic than the Manhattan neighbourhood

By TDakin |

Came to the area for dinner after visiting the Zoo. Seemed to have a more neighbourhood feel than it's Manhattan equivalent. More lively and boisterous with plenty of activity. Very cool vibe, would definitely return.

Not so great.

By tmulligan2 |

Very disappointing once you have been to others in other cities. Dirty and smoked filled. Service in restaurants was very poor to tourists and menus were ordinary. Nothing to write home about.

Nice Market

By Harry D |

Really gives a nice vibe to the street. Didn’t actually need to buy anything but there is plenty option and in a nice setting.

An offer I could not Refuse!

By Rastafari69 |

Forget Little Italy, Manhattan (it has become China Town, apart from 5 houses). If you wanna relive the atmosphere of Little Italy in Manhattan of the 70's & 80's, a trip to the Bronx is worth the trip. On Saturday & Sunday, you can stroll through the cosy streets of Belmont, Bronx.

Arthur Avenue is the main street of the real deal Little Italy with italian classics as Dominick's, Zero Otto Nove, Enzo's & many more. Tip: check out the Bronx Beer Hall, where you can eat, drink & buy hand made cigars!

Great in combination with the Botanical Gardens & Bronx Zoo.

Slice of Heaven in the Bronx!

By Paula Z |

I visited Arthur Avenue on a Monday afternoon and on the same day the Yankees were playing (bonus!). The ambience was very casual and calm...unlike the bustling weekends! There are several nice and reasonably priced shops to purchase authentic Italian cheeses, meats and homemade pasta. Bring a cooler if you would like to bring home a little slice of Italy from the Bronx :)

Nice Little Italy on Arthur Avenue

By flamingokld |

It is a small street with lots of Italian restaurants, butchers, bakeries, seafood markets, etc. I would definitely go back again for the pizza. It was to die for!

Not impressed at all.

By Be real |

I was so excited to go to little Italy in the Bronx, but I was not impressed when I finally got there. I much prefer little Italy in Boston, and also Toronto and Montreal. I am sure it was great back in the day, but it’s no longer what I would expect. If you’re looking for really nice bakeries and restaurants in New York, try Brooklyn in the Carroll Gardens area.

Authentic Italian food

By lynne d |

Great place to get fresh made pasta and authentic Italian food. There are several restaurants which are very good and reasonably priced. Parking is not that great though.

Festive

By Henry R |

Just park and walk. Something for everybody. Hard to choose where to eat. So many choices. Festive atmosphere.

Real Little Italy

By Reservoirboy |

If you want authentic Italian food and pastries then Arthur Ave is the place. There are many Italian restaurants all within a stone's throw of each other and you can't really go wrong. Worth the trip out of Manhattan.

Arthur avenue experience

By David S |

If you ever get a chance to go to New York City, don't miss the trip to the real "Little Italy" located in the Bronx, NY. Going to Arthur Avenue, you will not regret the experience. You will want to go back again!

It is Fun to Come Home for a Visit!

By Robin1104 |

Whenever my husband and I travel home to New York, we try to visit Little Italy in the Bronx. The food is good in some of the restaurants, and the memories are even better!

Just walk the streets

By VirginiaLove2Travel |

Enjoyed our time just walking Arthur Avenue, going in and out of all the great stores and the market. Bought a few pastries and my husband got a fresh rolled cigar at the market. Go hungry so you can try a bunch of different things....share.

Fun in the afternoon

By Robert K |

Little Italy in the Bronx is a fun way to spend an afternoon. The many bakeries alone provide sights and smells unmatched in the Bronx. We took home bags full of bread, cake and cookies. The many stalls in the market place also provided many delights of imported meat, cheese and oils. Sitting in the central bar area the waitress was happy to get pizza and other foods for us from the vendors in the market. Don’t forget to visit the many butcher or deli shos in the area also. Leave your calorie counters behind and enjoy BronxLittle Italy

^FERRAGOSTO FESTIVAL 2016*

By Mcoh9570 |

We have been to a few restaurants in this area for its authenticity. When we found out about the ferragosto festival we were going. Quick drive in from long island ( not usually) and parking at Fordham u for $10. Trolley will shuttle you there but it's a 10 minute walk. The festival is defiantly better than Manhattan. The food is beyond authentic. There's vendors on the street with live music. The markets are open and moving fast. There is defiantly a huge sense of Italian pride here, they make the cannollie filling and as all other eats are also made on premises! Awesome time and will be back next year

Love it!

By Jeff F |

We stop here when traveling near or through the Bronx. We stop at the market, pork store, bakery and try all the restaurants and pizza places.. Have not found anything we don't love

Grocery shopping

By ernesta861 |

Keep it Italian in the the Bronx
Great selection and a fair price
I don’t make ravioli at home any longer I buy them at borgati’s fresh daily and the taste is terrific
I serve them several times a year
They freeze and cook up very well

A great place to stroll around

By ilariajuon |

Not many people know that the first Italian settlement was actually up in the Bronx, and not in Manhattan; and very little tourists actually adventure up there. Little is left of this initial settlement, but you can still enjoy a tour around Arthur's Avenue, with a good coffee and a pastry. Grocery stores, bakeries and restaurants will still give you the feeling of how it used to be, and if you are lucky you will also hear the distinctive "English-Italian" language mix spoken by the elderly.

Best Italian food in new york

By tas1523 |

For the past two years I have been coming to Arthur Avenue visiting many of the restaurants and delicatessens.

I have a few reviews of the restaurants which you can look at under my name.

I have never been disappointed in any restaurant I visited or deli.

For the best homemade mozzarella anywhere, you have to go to casa de mozzarella. A small deli with the best food around.

You really cannot go wrong wherever you eat on Arthur ave.

Fantastic Italian food stores, bakeries and restaurants

By JackRayher |

Whenever we go out for dinner on Arthur Ave., we try to go early enough to buy Italian provisions at the local markets. Last time we went to the Arthur Avenue Retail Market, Teitel Brothers grocery, Madonia bakery and Calandra's Cheese shop before having dinner at Roberto's Restaurant.

Excellent evening

By Wayne C |

Spent some time walking in the area to select a spot for dinner. The smells from the restaurants and bakeries were wonderful. Plenty of people on the street were willing to help with recommendations. Even the parking attendant?? (haha) that offered to watch the car for $1 was pleasant. Don't let that scare you, he was nice, harmless and had a good sense of humor. At least he was creative.

A nostalgic blend of fresh foods and packaged goods

By Elizabeth A |

After a tour of Fordham, we hit the Arthur Avenue market with the whole family. We ate at the restaurant/pizza place in the back, which had superior service and tasty pizza. We also got some gelato and biscotti from one of the vendors near the cigar makers. The gelato was so-so, but everything else was great. I especially loved seeing all of the meats, cheeses, olives, and prepared foods one could purchase.

2018 New York Pizza Festival

By bhlraven1916 |

Had a really great time. Some of the best pizza I've had since living in NY. Had pizza with truffles which was a first. Very nice community and friendly residents. The B12 or 22 bus stop is within walking distance. Can't wait till next year.

Great time in Little Italy 🇮🇹

By RxVacation |

Visited during the Feast of St Gennaro and the area was buzzing with people, food stands and games. Nice atmosphere for the family.

NYC native - but didn't know it was there.

By cavu0531 |

Not worth a trip, but worth going if you are near. It is just a few blocks, but good Italian if you like it.
