Rode this bike trail from East Park to Harbor Springs approximately 20 miles round trip. This part of the path was slightly rolling and has beautiful views of Little Traverse Bay. It is a paved path and has plenty of places to stop along the way (ice cream and a brewery if you want.) Definitely have lunch in Harbor Springs and visit the pier when you are there.
There is a trail office along the way that you can stop and get maps. The men there were very informative about the trail and the fundraising used to make this trail system.
Great day!

Goes for miles and miles. A lot of it you get great views of Lake Michigan! I would recommend any day!

Highly recommend taking a beautiful ride along the Little Traverse Wheelway! We ride from Petoskey to Charlevoix enjoying the amazing views along the way! 🚲 we stopped in Charlevoix at a coffee shop near the drawbridge and relaxed before we rode back. The path is safe and winds in and out of tree lined areas and in front of Bay Harbor.

The Little Traverse Wheelway is a paved (or boardwalk) path that runs along Little Traverse Bay. It enables travel from Charlevoix to Petoskey to Harbor Springs. The route is relatively flat with gentle hills along the way. It runs along the shore ducking in and out of wooded stretches, wetlands, and meadows. Numerous roadside parks connect with the wheelway, providing drinking fountains and restrooms. It’s a great way to exercise on foot or by bicycle and each town along the way is a destination. Take some time to sitesee, stop, shop, have a meal, coffee, ice cream, a drink or a snack.

My wife and I rode this trail and a cloudy, cool afternoon. Trail is paved and in pretty good shape. Best section is through Bay View where you get to see all of the large homes that line US-31.
Downside to this section is that the trail parallels the highway for quite a bit so you have all the traffic noise to deal with. Still a pretty pleasant ride though.
We picked up the trail at East Park, south of Petoskey, and road north to Harbor Sprigs. Round trip was 26 miles (with a couple more miles tacked on tooling around Harbor Springs).

We loved being able to get around the entire bay area by bike. Great views, fantastic scenery. It was a luxury to be able to avoid busy roads and enjoy a nice ride!

I wanted to do as much walking as I could while in Petoskey. This trail was great! I took it from downtown to the Stafford's Bay View Inn for Breakfast. You can also access the Kilwin's that's outside of the downtown area. I really enjoyed being able to walk by the water!

Beautiful vistas on the Wheelway. Easy ride with opportunities along the way for photos. Facilities also provided along the way.

This trail is for walking or riding and is along Little Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan or within sight of it. In Petoskey it runs through the state park, through Bay View (lots of victorian cottages) and along the lake below downtown. As a bonus you can visit Bob In Again for ice cream or Kilwin's for ice cream or fudge. When you get to the Petoskey Marina, take a walk out on the breakwater. You can (unofficially) jump off the breakwater at the lighthouse and for a nice swim and a lot of fun. It is a beautiful trail with great views of the lake.

This is easily one of the most scenic bike trails in the USA. Most of this trail is fast and flat, with a few hills between Bay Harbor and Harbor Springs. If you like water views, this is the ride for you! Tip: turn off at Beach Road (between Petoskey and Harbor Springs) and ride along the water. Also...just south of the Petoskey Brew Pub on on 119, another trail turns off and heads north to Alanson, also flat and fast. Look out for chipmunks!

We spent 4 hours biking on the Little Traverse Wheelway on a Sunday from 11am to 3pm. We stopped at the Bob In Again for lunch. Great views by the water and an overall fun ride. Rented bikes at Latitude 45 which is very close to the Wheelway...few side streets away. You can park you car on the side street behind Latitude 45. They provide a bike lock and helmets.

The views were stunning! You pass waterfalls, rapids, marinas, museums, restaurants, state parks and the many views of lake Michigan! Breathtakingly beautiful and fun! I love to ride my bike and this is by far the best bike trail I've ever been on!

This is a great bike path! We rode for 8.5 miles west from Petoskey and back. There are beautiful lake views along the path as well as picnic tables where one could pause for lunch or a snack.

Jump on your bike and ride this amazing trail along the shores of the Littlle Traverse Bay. You can ride south to Charlevoix or north Harbor Springs or just make a shorter ride in either direction and enjoy the day. Its manageable for families, fun, pretty, scenic and has a few rest stops. I think the best starting point is the Marina. Bring water...bikes are available for rent in Petoskey at the bike store on 31North.

We loved our ride from Charlevoix to Bay Shore and back. We rented bikes from Revolution Bikes in Charlevoix. The trail was perfect for my kids (ages 8,9). Mostly paved with a wooden boardwalk. It downpoured rain for about ten miles of our ride.

Love this Wheelway and have used it often. The views are spectacular along the Bay and even through the wooded areas. A variety of terrain from paved to boardwalk with a very short route through residential(but off the main highway) as you near Charlevoix. There are restaurants in Bay Harbor if you want a break for lunch and some scenic park areas with restroom facilities.

This is a well-maintained path. We went from Petoskey to Charlevoix one day, then from Petoskey to Harbor Springs the next day. The trip to Charlevoix was more enjoyable because of little pull-offs along the lake. When going to Harbor Springs, you can cut over to Beach Rd for more scenic views. Otherwise, the path mostly parallels M119. There is construction in Petoskey right now, so we parked at Spring Lake Park when we biked to Harbor Springs. I’m hoping we get back that way soon to do it again and to check out some bike paths in Traverse City. If you have questions, stop at the Michigan bike path building (not sure of the exact name) across from Spring Lake Park.

We rent bikes at Bannhof Ski Shop (who knew they rented bikes!). Very friendly staff. Price was $24 for 4 hours or $35 for 24 hours.
The route to Harbor Springs starts on the main road, which is not all that pleasant. After a few miles, a local couple on bikes told us to follow them for a far more attractive route, and boy were they right! We were on Beach Road, Fern and Pennsylvania. It was a great trip thanks to a kind couple.

Bring your camera with you because you will encounter one stunning view after another on the Little Traverse Wheelway. The water is a remarkable beautiful blue color!

The stretch between Petoskey State Park and Bay Harbor is especially nice -- mostly away from the road, and along the water. Between Petoskey and Bay Harbor there are a few "pocket parks" with great views and stairs down to the water. Worth stopping to take a peek or a rest.

My husband, 10 year old, 7 year old and I biked from Petoskey State Park to the Cliffs (not quite all the way to Bay Harbor) and it was a wonderful trip! I highly recommend this multi-use trail.

The Little Traverse Wheelway is a magnificent attraction. As far as we know it runs about 30 miles. We stayed in Petoskey and where is able to take advantage of it right there. Although it was too windy to bike ride we took several walks ; the views are magnificent as it hugs the water for much of the path that we used. And the surrounding area and landscaping is very well-maintained. A lovely feature of a lovely little city.

Well paved and safe bike route from Harbor to Charlevoix. Those gorgeous bay views can also provide sharp winds. Interesting close up view of the small airport between Harbor and Petoskey and the route at the end of the bay near Petoskey can be confusing so watch carefully. Ask at local cycle shops for safe alternate routes to avoid a couple of major uphill stretches!

Anyone who likes to bike should try this bike path. Asphalt and well-maintained. Gorgeous views of the bay. We preferred heading south from Petoskey towards Charlevoix. The path from Petoskey to Harbor Springs has a long stretch of bike lane along a busy road--too dangerous with kids.

Rented a bike and road the trails Beautiful Had a great time will do again soon Plan on a day to see everything

I work near the Wheel Way and run 1-2 times a week. The path is well maintained and marked. Views of Little Traverse Bay are breathtaking from nearly all of the trail.

I can't say enough about this dedicated bike trail. It's wide, well kept, and incredibly beautiful. We make the 4 hour drive at least twice a year just to ride this trail. The views of the bay and Lake Michigan are exceptional, as well as the towns of Petoskey and Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. It's a gem, and very special to us cyclists!

An excelent pathway along the lake and very near to it. The path is used for running walking and riding an has many places to rest and WC.

Although most people bike the trail, our mother-daughter group chose to walk. Easy but long walk (5 hours). Remember to put on bug spray and sun screen. The biggest challenge we had was water - you will have to carry a few bottles each as there is no place to refill. When you get to the end of the trail, you'll have to keep going into Charlevoix to eat.

Ride or walk this path along Little Travers bay is an experience you will never forget. Just think great view and good exercise.

Miles of paved biking/hiking trails with a great view! The pathway goes through Petoskey and travels on to Charlevoix and other nearby towns.

This paved trail will take you on a beautiful bike ride along Lake Michigan!! We rode from Petoskey to Charlevoix and back and logged about 32 miles. We stopped along the beach and looked for Petoskey stones and then had lunch when we arrived in Charlevoix. It was probably the best day of our vacation. My teenage daughter complained about going, but ended up having a blast. The trail is very well maintained and a fairly easy ride for a beginner. A couple areas were hilly, but it is manageable.

We were staying at Boyne Mt and brought our bikes. We road the section from Magnus Park to Staffords Bay View Inn. We enjoyed it because of the views of the Bay and nice stopping points along the way. It reminded me of riding around Mac Island. This, and riding in Harbor Springs along the bay, were our favorites. Petoskey and H.S. are so beautiful in the summer. The views and flowers in both places are magnificent.

Truly one of the prettiest bike trails in Michigan. Nice places to stop along the trails and the scenery is stunning. Walking, running or biking you can’t go wrong. Only downside is some of the cyclists think it’s okay to fly around corners at speeds that are not acceptable or considerate, especially when you have little ones. Not a problem in the area of the trails where it’s not as populated.

While staying in Petosky MI, we found this bike trail. What a wonderful biking experience. From beautiful views, shaded canopied sections, and beachside runs, this is a most enjoyable trail! We put on about 30 miles in one day and even took time to take a few of the many pathways down to the waters edge. There are even spots to picnic. One of the best days of the trip, we loved it!

This is a nice path for leisure riding as there are many driveways you have to cross and you also have to be careful of the walkers, runners, baby strollers, etc.

We travel about 100 miles to bike this multi-use paved way. Been here multiple times. It awes me how people can get together to create something so beneficial for the common good. We really enjoy biking this trail.

This is an excellent paved trail running all the way from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. It is crowded in the summer. It runs by the water and through domestic areas. We accompanied a person using a wheelchair and the paths accomodated him well. It is a beautiful area and beautiful trail.

This wheel way is awesome! Great for all ages and relatively safe. Yes you cross some streets and there are some faster cyclists but the vast majority are respectful of each other. If your making a day of it there is plenty of food along the path. The path- as far as I am aware stretches from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix - about 30 miles - with additional branches to explore. The terrain is relatively flat and not even the teenagers complained- well no more than normal. The wheel way really makes the area s destination.

This is the most beautiful paved bike/walking trail I've ever seen. It wraps around Little Traverse bay and goes all the way to Charlevoix. They seem to add to it every year. It looks like maybe they will extend it to Mackinaw City. This trail isn't super hilly so even out of shape folks wouldn't have too much trouble. The views from the trail can't be beat and their are nice facilities and parks along the way.

This is an awesome way to explore the area on bike! Family friendly & relatively flat, You can rent bikes in Petoskey or Harbor Springs.

Worth a long weekend to just ride the trails, enjoy the scenery and experience Petoskey. Plenty of miles to ride and great places to eat and drink... Twisted Olive, Pallette Bistro, Chandlers, City Park, Jose's, Roast n Toast are all great places to rest and relax... Hey I live here and can't think of a better place to be.

This by far one of the best bike paths I have been on. I like the flatter sections and some of ti can get rather steep. It has some tight turns in town and it is best to make sure the wind is at your back on the way in.

Nice trail! We enjoyed our bike ride to town and state park. There is a section that it is along a busy road.

We road biked this wheelway from Petoskey to Charlevoix. It can't get anymore beautiful then this! The ride is very relaxing and the views of the lake are amazing!! There are some inclines, but nothing difficult. Of all the rail trails in Michigan, this has got to be the most scenic and beautiful. Whether you bike, rollerblade, run or walk, this is a definite must!

We walked the path but really wish now that we would have rented a bike to take in more of the gorgeous scenery.

The Little Traverse Wheelway from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs, about 25 miles, is asphalt or concrete paved and has some great sections for biking and some dreadful sections. It’s not a rail trail so the trail is a bit more curvy and hilly (easy hills) than most paved trails.
The best:
• The section from East Park, a beautiful new park on the lake with clean restrooms and great views, to Bayfront Park in Petoskey is smooth pavement, shady and has several scenic views of Lake Michigan
• The spur for the North Western State Trail is a new rail trail for the first 7 miles to Alanson; the first 5 miles are the best for scenery; and there is an artesian fountain in Conway to refill your water bottles
The worst:
• The section from East Park to West Park, a parking lot with pit toilets, is shady, but the pavement is quite rough for a road bike
• The section from West Park to Charelvois follows US 31 so it is noisy and not scenic, except for the MDOT roadside park
• The section from Bayfront Park to Harbor Springs follows a busy highway; the trail is on the shoulder of some sections of highway and some drivers use the shoulder as a right turn lane; the driveway cuts have rough curbs to jump; this dreadful section covers about 8 miles
Harbor Springs is certainly a worthy destination, but I recommend riding Shore Road and Shore Drive instead of the Wheelway. The scenery is much better, especially the section in town which follows the lake and provides views of some beautiful homes.

Beautiful Petoskey shores are at the forefront of this trail/wheelway. You can walk, run, ride your bike or anything in between. During summer and early fall you can stay a while and catch a baseball or softball game at the waterfront field. There is a very clean kids area/playground right under Ptowns signature clocktower. You can take a dip off the breakwall (tourist -or Fudgie, as the locals say-initiation). Evening romantic strolls up and down the marina allow you to catch the million dollar sunset! The best thing here is for free!!

love love love this trail. We camp in the state park and you can hop right on it. good for kids too. Stop for fudge or ice cream in Petoskey.

If you want a great road (or other type of bicycle) ride without cars in a spectacular setting this is it. Extremely well maintained with tremendous views of Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay.

We used petosky as a home base where we rented bikes. One day went to harbor springs and all around the bay view area and the next day up to where the paved trail ends north of alanson, mi. The surface was great with views along the way, you can continue on tha path but it is grass and some weeds but flat enuf.

I learned of the Little Traverse Wheelway as part of the Lighthouse 100 race. We began our race on this path. It ran along the water and offered beautiful views.

Great trail will return. Nice not to have to worry about traffic and the views they were awesome. Try it you'll love it.

One of the great things about being on vacation is doing things that you can't do at home. I would guess that most of us do not have a beautiful, well maintained, lakefront trail near us. Bring or rent a bike and spend a few hours or all day enjoying the scenery. Pack a lunch if you are at all adventurous and enjoy eating lakeside. It's not a particularly difficult trail but it is beautiful and shouldn't be missed.

Great pathway for riding. I took my bike up the trail several miles north. It winds in and out of the woods and part of the trail is along a major roadway but for the most part it was very enjoyable and had several nice views of the bay.

We stayed at Petoskey State Park and were able to ride to town and to Harbor Springs without worrying about traffic.

The Little Traverse Wheelway is one of those major miracles when small towns understand it's about quality of life for every citizen and visitor alike. The bike path takes you from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix with spots along the Lake Michigan lakeshore where, if you're smart, you're wearing your bathing suit under those bike shorts and can take a break in the clear, cool water. Only two downers - 1) the path parallels the roadway for long stretches -- particularly near a massive private development; 2) There's a lovely goreous grassy park just to the west of the marina in downtown Petoskey that is over-populated with Geese that leave thousands of their poop every day. The grass appears to be watered and mowed, if not also naturally and artificially fertilized. Petoskey needs to turn this health hazard into a proper sand beach which will eliminate the grass that attracts the birds. Traverse City just reported an E Coli hazard in its waters caused by Geese and rain run-off. Besides, the "park" is unusable except for the Geese and has earned the nickname "Goose-S#@T Park" among the locals and tourists.

We made it about 25 miles round trip from Petoskey to "almost" Charlevoix. There's a Marathon station on the other side of the highway halfway, as well as another Citgo about a third of the way, so if the family needs snacks, you're set! Be sure to get a multi-speed bike -- a cruiser isn't going to cut it for an enjoyable trip.

We rode this trail in 2 days. The first day, we began in Charlevoix and rode to Petosky and back. This was a 30 mile trip, slightly long for us! There were some mild hills, but all in all, not too bad! We had lunch in downtown Petosky. The second day, we put our bikes on our car and took them to the Petosky harbor, where we parked. Then we biked on to Harbor Springs. This turned out to be about 18 miles round trip, but getting to Harbor Springs via this trail meant quite a few hills. Going into the town for the last several miles (?) was all downhill. We used Google maps to make sure we would end up in the town and, before going on the last steep hill to the center of town, found a wooden stairway winding around the hill. We decided to park and lock our bikes at the top and walk down, where we found The Pier Restaurant and had a wonderful lunch overlooking the water. I was not looking forward to the ride back, when we came upon another bike rider who told us to bike on down the steep hill we had avoided and then just follow the water back on a relatively quiet road which eventually would reconnect with the Wheelway! Perfect! So glad to have that tip!!!

Well maintained, paved, trail for bicycle riding. Can go North or South for MANY miles. Great scenery.

Wonderful for a short morning walk or a long bike ride. We are not bikers, but this goes all the way from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs.

One of the principle attractions of Petoskey and Magnus Park is the proximity of the bike path which runs over 25 miles from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. Great for scenic views whether walking or biking. Only criticism is that it gets very busy on weekends and is too narrow and close to car traffic in places.

Little Traverse Wheelway is a terrific bike trail! Great views of the bay and area shores lines. This year fall colors were great!

Perhaps if one was transported here from central Manhattan one may think this was a nice trail, but compared to others in the NW lower peninsula, the Wheelway takes last place.
First, there is the incessant loud noise of traffic from US-31 running next to the trail that is your constant companion along the way. If you like the sense of cycling along a busy highway, this trail's for you. Then, there are the poorly designed curbs that provide bone-jarring hits as one crosses driveways and streets on this trail, particularly in Petoskey. The section running through Petoskey, especially N through town, is little more than a miserable sidewalk with no redeeming value. Long stretches between Charlevoix to Bay Harbor are damaged by roots growing through the surface. Maintenance is certainly not a priority here, just as maintenance of roads here in Michigan is not a priority.
There are a few scenic bits, but like most lakeside scenery in Michigan it's "look but don't touch" since access to the shore is that you pay to play, particularly if you are a cyclist.

Lovely view, nicely maintained (even passed a person operating a leaf blower in the fall), you can take it all the way to Charlevoix or beyond if you want to.

This bike trail is Paved and pretty easy to ride. At times the views are beautiful and other times the views in the woods are lovely. We are not serious bikers but we're able to do this trail, however we did split it into 2 days.

Fun half day trip! It’s about 7 miles to Harbor Springs from Petosky . We rented bikes from Banhof’s which is right on the trail a little outside of Petosky. We rented for 4hrs and were able to bike there, have lunch and do little shopping and bike back. Do take the alternate route along Beach rd for a more scenic route, else you are pretty much riding on the side of the highway about half the time. There are a couple of hills on Beach Road so riding back I had to walk my bike a couple times, but I am out of shape. Take that into account and maybe rent an electric bike!

Shady, wide, smooth track with a view. Low grade hills that are easy to navigate. Parks with bathrooms and benches throughout. HIGHLY recommended activity. Be sure to watch the sunset while you're in Petoskey!

We love riding this trail when we can and like taking fellow bike riders with us to show them this wonderful bike path along the shoreline. There are very beautiful views of Lake Michigan and the Little Traverse Bay in Petoskey. This trail has lots of bike riders, some walkers and some runners. There are a lot of places along the way to stop and take pictures or check out the water along the shore. You can also stop along the way and grab a bite to eat in various places.

We love the Wheelway and have been enjoying it for 16 years. The views are spectacular. We have met lots of interesting people along the wY. Everyone is very courteous and respectful. It is a fabulous way to enjoy the Lake Michigan coastline and the wooded areas, as well.

We rode the trail from East Park to the end at Charlevoix. Riding at a leisurely pace, we enjoyed the views of Lake Michigan. We also stopped at various places along the way to walk on the shoreline. For bikers, it is a paradise

Days we biked were overcast but had a great time. Paths very well maintained. Awesome views down by the bay.

The scenery along this trail is breathtaking. The trail is well maintained and kept clean. Signage is informative and appropriately spaced. Great to see communities support and prioritize this and encourage its use. We will be back!

We started at Magnus Park in Bay View and rode south. The views and the beautiful homes were fun to look at. Bay View was celebrating their 20th year anniversary so it is a very new town and very pretty. Then we rode back to Magnus Park and on to Petoskey State Park. The park had a beach and sand dunes. The trail was VERY nicely maintained with pretty landscaping and shelter areas. We ate lunch at a deli across the highway from the trail in Petoskey. There was a stretch of the trail, before the state park, that ran along the highway. I didn't really care for that but the rest of the trail is a definite must ride!

The most beautiful ride in Northern Michigan! Fairly flat ride, a few inclines. Many areas overlook Little Traverse Bay, absolutely gorgeous! Nice wide bike path, great for the whole family!

My wife and I took our bikes to Petoskey and enjoyed riding the Little Traverse Wheelway. One day we rode to and through the state park, and another day we rode to Bay Harbor. Most of the trail goes along the shoreline and is beautiful. Some of it is on sidewalks along the street.

This is a great well groomed path for riding bikes or walking. It takes you through several towns and is a good way to visit many local attractions.

I am very impressed with Little Traverse Wheelway! What a great idea to give folks a place to walk/bike without having to contend with busy streets.
We walked with our little dog while visiting and we saw so much more than all the times we have driven along Charlevoix Ave from our RV park to town.
Our little black dog is sun avoiding, shade seeking! She walks where there is shade and in the morning she had shade at the sides of the road most of the way.
Plus when walking both of us were in the moment as opposed to driving where the driver is fully occupied.
Highly recommend taking advantage of this wonderful path!

This is a wonderful path for walking and biking. It winds along the water and through the trees. It has changing elevations and scenery.

We rode a 5 mile section of the Little Traverse Wheelway from Petoskey to Bay Harbor. The views of Little Traverse Bay are spectacular. There were several parks along the way where we could stop for water or restrooms. The paved path is great and for the most part away from traffic. There were a couple challenging hills, but it is mostly even and easy to ride. Don't miss this scenic bike path!

We run this trail every time we are in town. It is safe, beautiful and is the perfect distance for training. We usually run to/from downtown petoskey (at the little lighthouse) to the Inn at Bay Harbor. It is 6/7 miles roundtrip and always helps us achieve our running goals while engaging our senses. So many gorgeous houses to look at, too, in addition to running directly on the bay. We saw a bald eagle soaring overhead this weekend. It's just perfect!

A lovely wheelway for bikers and walkers around the lake.very comfertable and realy not dificult at all.Lovely view and banches around the wheelway

I use this wheel way all spring thru fall. Amazing way to overt traffic while taking in some breath taking views of our beautiful lake Michigan.

I started in Charlevoix and rode to Petsoskey and back, its really beautiful and easy too ride any experienced cyclist will enjoy it. Make sure an walk out to the lighthouse. And for lunch I recommend Papa Lous.

This is by far one of the best bike trails that our group has ever riden on. We broke it up into three sections over three days and loved every minute of riding. The Trail is kept in great shape and provides ample space for everyone who uses the trail. We especially liked starting at the trailhead behind the Fresh Market on Rt 31 in Petoskey and then ride toward the City Park in Petoskey. The views of Little Traverse Bay are beautiful . It was well worth the trip

We're off-season travelers who enjoy locations without the craziness of busy season. We asked for some local recommendations and that led us to the lighthouse pier where we found a good number of rocks(petoskey, charlevoix, and assorted coral fossils). The kids enjoyed the walk to the lighthouse and picking through the rocks.
Then we went down to the part of the wheelway that crosses Magnus park. By then it was nice and sunny and we all sat down and enjoyed the sunshine, waves, and looking at rocks(lighthouse location was definitely better pickings).
Then we walked a ways further down the trail but as we have kids ranging in 11 months to 6 years and we were all on foot, we didn't go anywhere near the full distance. Would love to come back with bikes in a few years and travel further along the trail. Some great plant and bird life too. The trilliums were out in force and are just so beautiful.

Well paved and maintained along Little Traverse Bay in Petoskey, MI. Lot's of 'pull offs' for viewing, eating, and or shopping.

This bikeway goes 26 miles some paved some concrete and some side walk but never in the road. It passes through the town taking in parks, marina's Ice cream shops bike repair and rental shops. the town of Potaskey is one of the best kept secrets in Michigan.

Walking along the bay to see the sunset was the highlight of our stay. Lots of families and bikers using the trail. Well-spaced restroom facilities along the way.

Little Traverse Wheelway is one of the most beautiful bike rides you will ever experience. We rode from Charlevoix to Petoskey and back and it was just a wonderful afternoon! Easy ride, stunning views! The trial is well marked and kept in excellent condition...warning though there are too many places to stop along the way to take photos:)

We rode Petosky to Charlevoix then Petosky to Harbor Springs the next day. The weather was perfect for cycling.
The ride to Charlevoix is very scenic and along the water almost the entire way. It's an easy ride for enthusiastic beginners and a comfortable ride for the average touring rider. We stopped and enjoyed the expansive vistas along the way and rewarded ourselves with whitefish chowder at The Weathervane for lunch. Before heading back to Petosky we rode around Charlevoix and saw the mushroom houses, relaxed by the harbor and made the requisite stop at Cherry Republic. The ride back was equally pleasant. There is one long hill about 5 miles from Petosky so save some energy and enjoy the ride. Be aware...Deer crossed our path suddenly and unexpectedly also one of our female riding companions used the "green" door for a nature call...ended up with a wicked case of poison ivy!
The ride from Petosky to Harbor Springs was equally pleasant but less scenic. The LTW follows the road and requires numerous full stops and slow downs for safety and traffic. The ride off the Wheelway and into Harbor Springs on county roads was winding and traffic limited. Harbor Springs is lovely, like stepping into a Ralph Lauren ad. Even the dogs are designer. We packed a lunch and ate by the harbor. Public restrooms can be found there. We wandered in and out of the high end stores, enjoying every minute. On our way back to Petosky we ride into the state park and walked the shore line searching for Petosky Stones. We were not disappointed.
If you are in the area and like to bike I would rate these rides as among our favorites.
Lastly, stop in at Top of MI Trails Council and show them some love.

I biked all over the country and Europe the views on this one are hard to beat. Got to see some fantastic sunsets absolutely beautiful homes great places to stop for a beer and something to eat all along the way.

My husband and I stayed in Charlevoix and took off on the path (which technically begins across the street from the AmericInn) about 9am but we did have to ask a local how to get out of downtown Charlevoix and hook up with the path because we did not want to ride on the busy road. There is a local bike path (which is on the side of a not busy road) which hooks up to the big path he easily directed us toward. The first half from Charlevoix to Petoskey was very scenic and a lot through woods. You could get your speed up because there not too many driveways to pass over. The second half from Petoskey to Harbor Springs has a lot more to see but a lot more driveways and streets to cross to you more pedal leisurely. The best thing is that between Petoskey and Harbor Springs is the Petoskey Brewery which is a perfect spot to stop for a snack and cold beer to refuel. The path was well maintained and there was not a lot of congestion. Walkers and runners were present in the more populated areas. We do ride often and this path had a few moderately hard hills, 2 steep ones and one long gradual one going back into Charlevoix.

Great views a wonderful place to walk and reflect on things Very beautiful place my favorite place to be and we have a home in Petoskey Mi.

This is an awesome running trail. Woke up early while my traveling mates were in bed and hit the trail. Running along the water in the cool air. How can life get any better. There are water stops along the way. The trail is nice and paved. Much parking. If you don't run go out for a walk. You won't be disappointed.

The Little Traverse Wheelway is a northern Michigan gem of a trail. The trail is paved its entire length, from Harbor Springs to Charlevoux which makes it great for any type of bike. The trail is approximately 25 miles long. The views of Little Traverse Bay all along the way are stunning! I have ridden this trail a number of times over the years and just love it. For adults with road riding experience, I'd also highly recommend riding M-119 from Harbor Springs to Cross Village. While you are there you MUST eat at the Legs Inn!

I love it when a municipality or any public entity sees the benefit of using an old railroad bed to provide off road space for bicyclists, runners and walkers. Petoskey and the area surrounding have done it right!

Gobs of scenic views with few intersections. A gem that's well worth the loooong drive to northern MI. Add a few miles in Charlevoix to see the mushroom houses and visit Goodwill.

Charlevoix to Harbor Springs through Petoskey and Bayview...great vies of Little Traverse Bay. Wonderful bike ride or walk/run!

Biking the Little Traverse Wheelway was such a highlight for us! We were camping at Petoskey State Park, and the path passes right be there, so one day we biked from there to downtown Petoskey, and then to Bay Harbour and then to Charlevoix and then back! The path is smoothly paved, flat, away from traffic and cars, well-marked and mostly along turquoise Lake Michigan. From Petoskey to Charelevoix makes for a good long day trip, especially when you stop at the quaint towns of Petoskey and Charlevoix for coffee or fudge! (From Petoskey State Park to Charlevoix is about 35km one way, note that once you reach Charlevoix, the LIttle Traverse Wheelway path ends, and then you can connect to the Charlevoix townships bike path and then just head downtown). The next day we went from Petoskey State Park to Harbour Springs, which is also very lovey, and that was only about 12km one way, and you pass an airport which is kind of neat. The entire Little Traverse Wheelway path from Harbour Springs to Charlevoix (trail only) is 23.5 miles or 38km. If you enjoy biking then we highly recommend this bike path. There were parking lots along the way if you don't want to do the entire thing and could drive to certain parks and start from those points. Happy cycling!

The Little Traverse Wheelway is one of the most beautiful stretches of paved bike trail in the world. It spans more that 35 miles from the little town of Charlevoix, runs past Petoskey and then goes to Harbor Springs in the north. You can also head north from Petoskey and end up in the small town of Alanson near Crooked Lake. Along the way you will ride through wooded areas, areas the look out over Lake Michigan, marinas, city areas and cliffs that afford panoramic views of the entire bay. The trail is safe for adults and children to ride together, always remembering to go single file so that faster bikes can get by your group. There are many places to stop along the way including beaches, a campground, a history museum, bay front parks and many restaurants and shops in the towns nearby. It is a wonderful experience!

Paved, with multiple sturdy benches, picnic tables and rest areas. A brief section through Bay View unfortunately runs on the side walk along busy US 31. Our favorite stretch is from Bay Harbor to Petoskey's Marina, perfect place for a picnic near one of the two water falls, but busy on warm summer weekends. Paved trail has been recently extended to Alanson, so you can ride all the way from Charlevoix.

This walking and biking trail adds so much to the experience you have in Petoskey. My sister and brother-in-law, who are big cyclists, rode in both directions over the four days we were in town. My husband and I enjoyed the scenic views on our walks and I enjoyed the time I sat by the water to read in view of the peaceful water view. Easily accessible by foot or car.

5 of us biked leisurely from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix over 3 days. Very relaxing when you dont have to worry about sand or dirt or crumbling roads. Several parking lots.

I love the bike trail. I rollerblade on it from the waterfront in Petoskey to Bay Harbor & bike that trail also. The view is fantastic. Probably 5 days a week I bike the trail from Alanson to Spring Lake. I get a lot of use out of it & am so happy to have such a wonderful trail in our area. We are very blessed.

We rode 11 miles today. Very nice bike trail and some fantastic views of the lake. Trail is ashphalt with some hills.

This wheelway connects Charlevoix, Bay Harbor, Petoskey, Bay View, Alanson and Harbor Springs. The variety of scenery cannot be beat. Whether you are walking, running or biking, you will want to return to this venue; it connects all the major attractions of these beautiful Northern Lower Michigan towns (downtown Charlevoix, Bay Harbor, downtown Petoskey, Petoskey waterfront, Bay View association, Petoskey State Park, downtown Harbor Springs, etc. etc.).

We rode this in two separate segments on different days. The section between Charlevoix and Petoskey is definitely the better section, as between Petoskey and Harbor Springs there are a lot of sections where you're close by a busy road.

Nice easy ride with some of the best views of Lake Michigan. It does have a couple hills but nothing terrible.

Traveled Petosky to Harbor Springs on day one. Just over 20 miles. Pretty flat except for the hill leaving Petosky. It does put you right next to the road going the wrong way for a short distance. Road Petosky to Charlavoix on day two. Great ride with some rolling hills. About 35 miles round trip. Make sure when traveling west you go to the lower trail near Bay Harbor Inn. Some sweet homes and toys plus a great view of the bay.

This was a fairly easy ride with young children, parents and grandparents. Beautifully maintained with lots of turnouts, views, benches and restrooms. If time would have allowed we would have spent more time on the trail (naptime intervened)!

Rode our bikes on this bike path several times. It is paved and it very nice. For those of you looking for a flat bike trail, well, you will not like the hill up to Conway but it is pretty flat the rest of the way. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

This is a nice trail with excellent views of the bay. There are a few rolling hills with a couple of steeper climbs. At times it does ride along the highway, but overall it is nice. I believe they have fixed all the transitions from trail to driveways, where before there were some small curbs that were pretty bothersome.

Wonderful way to see little traverse bay. Had a wonderful day riding from The Inn at Bay Harbor to Harbor springs. This included a stop at Kilwins for ice cream right off the trail and Petoskey State Park. Outstanding day! Good bike ride for all levels.

Start at the Petoskey waterfront and ride all the way to Harbor Springs. No matter your age, the ride is easy and safe. Views of the water and canopies of trees are the backdrop for the ride. Once in Harbor Springs, take a swim at the beach, get a double dip of hand-dipped ice cream or sip a craft beer or Chardonnay. This excursion promises a five-star rating for everyone.

We drove up from the Grand Blanc area (between Flint and Detroit) to ride this trail. Smooth lightly traveled bike path connecting 3 great cities.

I ride the Wheelway regularly. The run from Petoskey to Charlevoix has major segments that face on Little Traverse Bay and are picturesque. The segment from Petoskey to Harbor Springs is away from the water and has an extended segment that runs right longside M119.

The is a fantastic path. Many places you can choose to start from, different paths to take. Restrooms available at some locations. Safe parking

This is a beautiful trail which travels along Little Traverse Bay in the Petoskey area. It is great for both biking and walking/hiking. Don't forget your camera!

My family takes the bike trail from Petoskey to Charlevoix each year. It is an enjoyable ride with many stops to look at the beautiful scenery of Little Traverse Bay.

We live next to the trail. We use it a lot to go to Alanson to Dairy Queen and the local eateries. It is fairly flat and enjoyable for all ages. We see many styles of bikes, skates, skate boards with walkers and runners. Take in the loons on Round Lake and enjoy Northern Michigan from Charlevoix to Levering. Soon we will be able to ride from Traverse City to Mackinaw.

We were in Sun RV resort near Petoskey and the bike path goes right by the RV resort.
We use the bike path all week.
Nice flat ride to Charlevoix, and Harbor Springs for lunch then ride back.
The bikeway is mostly off road. When you are going through Petoskey this is not a bikeway you can do 20 miles per hour.
The bikeway goes by Petoskey State Park.
Some parts of the bikeway can use a repaving where tree roots or water have caused some bumps.
Overall the rides are beautiful. Plenty of views of the water.

If you are in the area take advantage of the Little Traverse Wheelway. It's a fun and generally easy family ride. You can pick and choose the distance and difficulty (there are some hills) to suit your needs. So get out an give it a try.

We've biked on several trails, and this one was tops! Lovely views of Little Traverse Bay, wooden bridges, tunnels - fun! Plus, the hills are few and manageable. Based in Petoskey, we rode one day to Harbor Springs, the next day to Charlevoix. The trail is in great shape, just perfect!

The best! Our entire family bicycled the distance from Harbor Springs all the way to Bay Harbor and perhaps even further. And, did I mention that fabulous view of Little Traverse Bay?It was a good trip for people in good physical shape who get regular exercise; but somewhat of a challenge for others. This is the second best way to traverse Little Traverse!! Now, go out there and enjoy every pedal's worth!

Whether you are a 50 mile a day cyclist or enjoy meandering along and taking in the sites, the Little Traverse Wheelway is a "must ride" when in northern Michigan.
I can't say enough about this beautiful, paved bike trail. My wife and I ride it spring, summer, and fall. It is one of the most beautiful bike trails we've ever been on - and we've been on many! Your ride will take you along breathtaking views of Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. It is safe, easy to navigate, and you can bike all the way from Charlevoix to Alanson, Mi.
This is a bike trail I know a lot about having biked it at least 50 times. Trust me, if you want a "great ride", take the Little Traverse Wheelway!

We packed up our bikes and headed to Petoskey for an afternoon ride after reading good reviews about the Little Traverse Wheelway, and we were absolutely not disappointed. We parked at Bay View Park, near downtown Petoskey, walked to a restaurant for lunch, then headed out. The most beautiful part of the ride was the first portion, between Petoskey and Bay Harbor -- right along the water. There are also stretches along Lake Michigan as you get closer to Charlevoix. The trail is all asphalt, except for a stretch of boardwalk through a wetlands area, near Charlevoix. We ended up biking all the way to Charlevoix and back, right around 30 miles. For the most part the trail is flat or a slight grade, though there was one long uphill on the way back. We wished we had taken more water, as it was in the high 80's. We will ride the trail again -- perhaps start at Bay Harbor, ride to Harbor Springs, and return.

Absolutely the best! Lovely views. Caution: don't let the little ones too far away from you. There are some dangerous drop offs. We will be vacationing again in Petoskey because of this bike path. Love the fresh air and lake breeze.

This is a great place to bike if you want to ride along Little Traverse Bay in Petoskey. It is an easy ride with access to shopping, eateries and the marina. It has never disappointed us.

This trail can make the family or dedicated riders happy. For the hardcore bikers, start in Harbor Springs at 9 AM and have lunch in Charleviox, then bike back. For the family, put in at the waterfront in Petoskey and ride to East Park in Bay Harbor. For a half day ride for adults and teenagers, ride from or to Harbor Springs and Petoskey. If you are here for a 2 weeks, do all of the above!

This is a bike path not to be missed.. Well Kept. Goes from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. Bridges across low lying areas. The best feature is the cliff view over Little Traverse Bay. You think you are somewhere on the West Coast.. Trail goes right into each town. Additional trails are accessed from this trail as well.

The wheelway is a true asset to Petoskey. It provides an alternative to driving to get to nature. I rode into town on it, and it a beautiful ride. Don't miss it when you visit.

Beautiful views of Little Traverse Bay, runs across the back of our lot, just west of Petoskey, so it is really convenient! Bikes or walking and lots of friendly people..

Love riding my bike thru this area and into Harbor Springs. Wish I lived in this area as this is a great draw for the residents and avoiding the peak traffic.

This trail is the perfect combination of wide and sharp turns, a little bit of elevation change, and excellent scenery. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It connects well to the towns of Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Charlevoix. There's two places along the trail where you might get confused. The connectors to Harbor Springs and Charlevoix have you riding through town a little bit. I required the use of my smart phone to keep myself oriented.
You can ride through the towns and explore them as well. There's lots of access points along the way, so you can park anywhere along the trail. Much of the parking is free.
There are places to stop and eat along the way, but few of them are on the trail. You'll have to get off the trail. Bicycle racks are available in the towns, but not as many as I thought were necessary.
I was there in late May and there were huge clouds of little black bugs. They stick to your clothes and face. I don't know if it happens all the time, but I suggest a handkerchief or something for your nose and mouth and glasses for your eyes. I saw a few riders with dust masks.
If I ever get out that direction again, I'll definitely ride that path.

We rode the path from Charlevoix north to just outside of Petoskey. The path was quiet, low traffic on a Thursday. Some of the path has damage to the asphalt from winter so I lower this score because of that. Otherwise, this is a great path to ride.

the Wheelway is nicely done and wide enough for two cyclists to ride or pass comfortably BUT beware runners can be unaware of cyclists and some are downright rude...share the Wheelway

The Little Traverse Wheelway is a perfect ride to and from Charlevoix to Petoskey. From Charlevoix you head out over a raised bridge through a swamp and then you are rewarded with a long ride down to Lake Michigan. There are three beautiful stops on Lake Michigan in a two mile stretch. Breathtaking views. When you arrive at Bay Harbor the view opens up to a spectacular 180 degree view of Lake Michigan. The trail then winds down to East Park with plenty of room to lay down in the grass and enjoy the view of Harbor Springs. Next after a short ride through the wood you come onto a lookout. You need to stop and take in the view. We always stop at Roast and Toast in Petoskey. Fabulous home made soups, salads and sandwiches. If you keep going past Petoskey you will come across the Bob-Inn for great ice cream and malts. Donna and I like the raspberry malt with two spoons and no straws. The malt is just that thick. Next onto Bayview and travel back to 1890. The cottages are unique and wonderful. The entire trail is wide and safe. A real gem!

We LOVED this bike path! It was our favorite thing in Petoskey! The views of Lake Michigan were awesome! The paved trail was very smooth (except for a bit of construction that made us go across some gravel and grass). If you have your bikes, ride this trail.

I was in northern Michigan in mid-August and my sister suggested we spend an afternoon riding bikes. We started near the Historical Museum downtown Petoskey and rode toward Charlevoix. I think we did about 20 miles roundtrip. The entire trail was paved and (with the exception of one slight incline) mainly flat. While a lot of it is wooded or through shrub, there's a good five-ish miles leading into Petoskey that runs right along the harbor with some gorgeous views of the water.

I am an average leisure bike rider, and love this trail! I have traveled the trail from Petoskey to Charlevoix and really enjoyed it. There are parts in between that are not that exciting but the areas closer to each town more than make up for those. There are great places to stop and look out over the bay and awesome places to eat in both towns. I have biked Mackinac Island several times, and it is hard to beat, but this trail is a close second. If you are a rider that likes to log miles or a rider that enjoys beautiful scenery,or both, you will like this trail. I would recommend it to everyone!

My boyfriend and I had just moved to Petoskey and wanted to explore the town more. The wheel way is a great bike/walking/running path for anyone and it has beautiful views of the water.

We stayed at the Bayview Inn and was just a few short minutes to an access point at East Park. We went towards Petoskey. Super scenery and nice places to stop to hunt for Petoskey stones or just relax looking at the bay. Excellent bike path!

Rented bikes and rode along Little Traverse Bay - very clear water. Also rode along the river - beautiful trees. Some little hills but mostly flat.

I decided to take a walk on this paved path and ended up on a section with an unobstructed view of the setting sun. Spectacular visual of the orange orb dropping into the lake. Simple but excellent viewpoint.

I rode this beautiful paved multi-use trail from Petoskey to Charlevoix and back on the first day; then from Petoskey to Harbor Springs and back on the second day. The trail has some roots under the asphalt that causes a rough ride for my road bike. I am glad that I chose the shorter ride on the second day, as I found a brewery and an 8-mile spur trail located halfway between Petoskey and Harbor Springs. The spur goes east through woods and passes lakes. I went four miles on the spur to an historic fish hatchery that has some good displays. The hatchery was constructed in 1873 and remains in operation.

We love this wheelway. There are some areas that go along the water, some along major streets with lots of busy traffic, so keep that in mind if you have little kids. BUT it is great for getting around the area on your bike.

I can think of no other place to enjoy your bike. The path is paved and wide. The views are breathtaking, take your camera. You can go from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix and never leave the path.

I ride this wheelway almost daily anywhere from Bay Shore to Alanson. Although, you can probably ride from Traverse City to Mackinaw City and points beyond. Thanks to Dave Russell and others we are blessed with this beautiful asset to the quality of life "UP NORTH."

Excellent trail for running, walking, biking etc. Highly enjoyed our day out! If you start it in Petoskey you’re by the water for quite some time. If you’re near Charlevoix you’re along Highway 31 so not as quaint or quiet. We biked all the way to Petoskey state park. Not sure after that.

I rode this path on my bike from Charlevoix to Petoskey. It was approximately 30 miles. The path is all paved and your view of the woods, water, beaches and rocks are to die for. You get the best of everything on this ride. Within the first few miles I came across a deer that was not more than 100 feet away! I had a bluejay follow me as I rode the trail. I pretended it was the same bird every time I saw one. It made me feel welcome! There were a lot of people using the trail; walkers, bikers and rollerbladers. Some parts of the trail are hilly and you will definitely want to wear a helmet. Also, there is some parts where you are open to the direct sun so bring a hat! Overall this scenic bike trail is a must stop for anyone who likes to bike or walk!

Very nice bike path. We rode from Harbor Springs into Petoskey. Pretty flat terrain with great views of the lake. Some time in the future we'll probably take the trail from Petoskey all the way into Charlevioux.

If you are up north, get out on and enjoy the reason anyone decides to be here! Safe and clean. Pack a light jacket! It gets windy!!

We loved the Little Traverse Wheelway! We rented electric bikes and rode about halfway to Charlevoix. There were spectacular views of the bay from this path! Looking forward to our next trip to Petosky to ride this clean and beautiful Wheelway again!

We stopped to stretch our legs and take in the view. People were riding their bikes and walking dogs. When we come back next time we will all brings bikes. This looked like an amazing and safe way to take in lots of what petoskey has to offer

A very smooth picturesque bike ride along lake Michigan however there was a washout about a year ago and it is still not repaired. You get detoured right along US31 with busy traffic. If I wanted to ride in busy traffic I could do it at home.

This asphalt surface trail winds through beautiful parkland, fields and forest, and well marked municipal streets. Well designed and a great way to explore the area!

This is the absolute best trail to run, walk, or bike on. The views are incredible, the people are friendly, and there are clean restrooms on route. Love every mile of this trail!

Awesome trail. Well marked and nicely paved. Great views of the lake. Good for bikes, walkers, joggers, dogs on leashes. Lots of benches placed at intervals.

This path is very well maintained, easy to access from downtown and safe to use from the very early morning through late evening in the summer. Running here was a highlight of my visit.

love this place. Biking on the trail is fantastic, especially near the sunset. It is so beautiful. We will absolutely come back again. The trail is nice, safe, a lot of nice restaurants on the way as well.

Rode from Bay View to Charlevoix! You feel safe and the path is smooth and well maintained! They did a great job with this path!

Loved the views of Lake Michigan along parts of the trail. Trail itself was paved and in good condition. Not too crowded. Disliked that much of the trail was along busy roads and not shaded.

Loved the trail and the wildlife. We encountered a large snapping turtle on our ride. There were plenty of spots to stop and enjoy the view. There were several unique bridges to cross.

I always hope to get up north to do this trail at least once a year, but we've missed a few. It has a newer part from when we were there last. It goes along Lake Michigan and has beautiful views. You can continue on to Harbor Springs. Very beautiful!

This is a great trail and many options in two directions.Lots of places to stop in for a snack or break along the way!

every local tourist brochure shows happy bikers whizzing along, the bright blue waters almost lapping at their feet.
And there are a couple of places that almost happens, but don't be fooled. For the vast majority of the route, this trail follows the major road linking these communities, often on what are essentially sidewalks.
It gets worse!
The road is directly along one side and all sorts of businesses and residences are on the other. Linking them are hundreds of driveways, each one with two little bumps and many with little octagonal STOP signs. Does that ever get tiresome!
If you just want to tootle around town, it's probably good enough, but if you bike with any seriousness, even a little, teeny bit, just about any road out of town is better.

A beautiful walk along the wheelway on the banks of the lake. Good for walking and biking. Lovely views. Do not miss it.

I am fairly new to biking, but this trail was amazing. The views of the water are spectacular. It takes you through countless parks, through downtown Petoskey and passes by some amazing lookout points. We did not finish the trail because I can only go so far right now, but we know we will return to Petoskey just so we can do this trail again from end to end. So much to see and explore. Bring your camera! And there are two ice cream shops conveniently located along the trail in case you get a craving;) We can't decide if this one or the Mackinac Island loop is our favorite.......it definitely give us something to think about!

A wonderful trail! Easy biking for all ages! Beautiful views! The trail is more uphill and challenging from Petoskey to Charlevoix. On the way back to Harbor Springs it seemed more downhill and a bit easier. If you are traveling with children please note that for a stretch there is only one Gas station for about 9 miles on the riding side of the trail after Petoskey. So do get fueled up! With that said I would highly recommend doing this trail for families.

Since we did not have cycles with us we enjoyed the trail on foot that way we had opportunity to observe the little things.

One of the rare places you can bike along a shoreline and enjoy Lake Michigan views! Starting in Charlevoix and ending in Petoskey, with a stop in Bay Harbor between, perhaps the best all-around ride in Michigan!

We rented pedel bikes from Pedego bikes and after several city blocks and crossing busy US 31, we were on our way. Started at the Bayfront Park and proceeded to Bay View, and North toward Harbor Springs. About 1/2 way there, before the Marathon Station and Burger place, the grade got quite steep for an extended period making us decide to abort our trip and return to Petoskey.
The Wheelway is scenic and mostly relaxing, but for those in better shape or using Pedego's electric bikes, whice are almost effortless and faster, but more expensive.

We walked the wheel way in both directions from the harbor in Petoskey. It’s a nice walk along Lake Michigan with excellent views. Going north toward Harbor Springs you can look for Petoskey stones at Petoskey State Park Beach.

I live right next to a beautiful bike trail....Dodge Park in Sterling Heights, Mi, I admit I'm spoiled. The Little Traverse Wheelway has got to be what the bike trails in Heaven are like! The views are so breathtaking they are hard to absorb. At times I would just stop and stand to soak it in to remember on a cold winter day. Yes, THAT pretty. If you enjoy bike riding, you will love this trail.

This is an excellent trailway, parts of it are as good as anything you will find (the far western and far eastern ends are on the lake as well as a stretch in Petoskey. Other reviewers have noted the hill on the way into Harbor Springs - easily avoided, make a left on the road right after the State Park as you head north. The route between Charlevous and Petsokey has the most lake front, but also runs along the highway for much of the way. Recommended bicycle rental: Latitude 45 in Petoskey - they are amazing and super helpful.

We parked in Sunset Park in Petoskey and headed to Harbor Springs. In order to avoid the airport and the noise of busy roads, turn down Beach Road and follow this quiet road all the way to the delightful town of Harbor Springs. You will pass lovely homes and waterfront views. There are many eateries to choose from in Harbor Springs before you head back to your starting point.

I've spent many hours on the trail in every season -biking, running, walking and snowshoeing. It's well maintained, well used and has some of the most beautiful views in the area. Yesterday I took a short walk and took a photo as it was getting dark.

blessed to live in a community that promotes health and conservation. This path is scenic, serene and safe. I love hopping on my bike in Harbor Springs and riding to Charlevoix and back not having to worry about cars and such.

Petoskey to Harbor Springs is much prettier than Petoskey to Charlevoix. If you take Beach Road out of Harbor Springs you have a much more picturesque ride thru neighborhoods and not along the highway.

This paved trail goes between City of Charlevoix and east and north to Horseshoe Drive (near the Harbor Springs Airport) on M-119.

This is such a beautiful trail ! There are so many places to ride to and to stop along the way as well. The views of the little traverse bay are breathtaking ! We rode from downtown petoskey to downtown harbor springs . We brought our dog in a little bike trailer and he was even able to get out and enjoy the dog beach in harbor springs ! You can make an entire day of it stopping at shops and breweries along the way . Plenty of options that have socially distanced outdoor patios . This is a wonderful activity to do given the current pandemic as well !

This is a great bike path that I have taken advantage of my last three summers in Petoskey. Every weekend, I try to make it a habit to ride from Petoskey into Harbor Springs and back. Not only does this provide me with a great exercise routine, but the actual path and views of the lake, both in Petoskey and in Harbor Springs, are great. I highly recommend to bikers visiting the area.

This bikepath stretches from Harbor Springs through Petoskey Waterfront to Charlevoix. Amazing scenic views all along the way. Also includes some of historic Bay View. So many things that you would not want to miss if visiting this area. The only negative it is very popular so if you are speed biking it may be too crowded for you. The trail includes walkers, roller bladers, families with small children, etc.

We rode 18 miles RT from Charlevoix almost to Bay Harbor. This trail goes along Lake Michigan, alongside M-31. The road noise is a little much, but the scenery makes up for it. A few challenging hills, mostly flat. Not sure if a bike pass is required; we didn't see any signs indicating as such. A small section of the trail is washed out due to high water but it's easy to get around. Great for a morning ride before resting at the beach!

Visited Petoskey for the weekend and ran the Bear River Creek 10K. 4 miles of it were on the Little Traverse Wheelway. Not my best time because I kept stopping to take photos. Beautiful paved trail.

As a summer resident of this area; I have watched this project develop over many years. It continues to expand and when completed you would be able to ride from Charlevoix to Mackinac City. You can also take it into Harbor Springs. It is a great way to enjoy fresh air, exercise, and some beautiful scenery along the way. It runs along the water in many places, through the woods in others. You will find the people who use this trail friendly, helpful, and considerate - very refreshing! No skateboards allowed!! There are many different trips you can take on this trail. Leave your bike at the waterfront in Petosky and take the tunnel into downtown for shopping, restaurants, etc. Take the trail further into Bay Harbor; have lunch at Knot Just a Bar overlooking the beautiful marina. Ride into Charlevoix or Harbor Springs; again full of charming shops and eateries. It is now being developed north of M119 as it develops its way toward Mackinac City. So far, this route is not as scenic but is great for those looking for a nice long, flat riding experience. It does not have the hills the other routes have. I feel very blessed to have this wonderful trailway at my disposal all summer long!

Trail starts just past historic Bay View; some of trail is close to busy highway & much traffic. We learned from a local there was a way to bypass that, which made the return trip from Harbor Springs much more enjoyable. Would suggest that information be posted somewhere for all.

A great bike and walking path. Some by the lake, some in woods and some by the road. Can ride between Charlevoix and Petoskey and between Petoskey and Harbor Springs. Generally flat with a few hills. Well maintained overall.

My wife and I rode from the Inn at Bay Harbor to Charlevoix one day and to Petosky another day.
this is a great trail with wonderful scenery along almost the whole trail. the trail is very well maintained and not a difficult ride even for someone who is not really a rider (me).

As an avid biker (leisure) I am spoiled and lucky to live in an area where the Govt. along with civic groups work so hard to provide wonderful facilities such as our Wheelway. I use this about twice a week while living currently in Crooked Tree halfway between Harbor Springs and Charlevoix.. I either ride to Harbor Springs and back, Charlevoix and back, or into Petoskey for breakfast or lunch. Both routes take the rider safely through classic neighborhoods and along winding routes along Lake Michigan. There are ample places to stop and rest at roadside parks, downtown Petoskey or Harbor Springs parks, East End Park or bench's. They recently added a path from Petoskey to Alanson and are working on the route from Charlevoix to Boyne City. Most of the ride is flat with a few small grades.

This is truly a spectacular Wheelway. A lot of work has been put into the building and maintenance. You can start in Charlevoix and ride, walk, or skate your way almost to Mackinaw. There are many places to stop and enjoy the view or take a break on a bench. Water fountains and bathrooms at various locations are provided. You can stop in Petoskey for some shopping and food and then continue on your way. Excellent for those looking to get a work out or a leisurely stroll.

Well maintained paved trail! We rented our bikes, helmets and lock and hopped on the trail to Petoskey State Park. We drove by glorious seaside cottages ( valued at a half million dollars), lovely wild flowers, and some historic sites. We ended up at the Petoskey State Park. We were able to easily park our bikes to use the beach, climb dunes and look for Petoskey stones. It was a great way to enjoy the day within 11-, and 13-year old.

Great ride...nice views of the lake...not too busy going toward Charlevois. The ride toward Harbor Springs is mostly along a busy highway.

This is my view each time I ride my bike to work. The view changes each day. I'm so lucky to live in here.

What a great bike path! It winds its way along the Little Traverse Bay from spectacular Harbor Springs to the iconic Charlevoix with its historic draw bridge. The path is all paved. Easy stop-over in Petoskey via Bay Street - a “bikes only” passage way by passes US 31. Highly recommend it.

The Little Traverse Wheelway is what I would call a perfect ride. Mostly level or easy grade, stunning scenery, a variety of types of views, and some good places to stop for picnics, ice cream, and parks and even a history museum.

Great bike and walking path with much of it the rails to trails. Mostly level with a few short climbs, the path runs along the edge of Little Traverse Bay and offers beautiful views. Many pull outs with benches. Numerous rest rooms at the park lands in the Petoskey area.

It's a nice trail for longer excursions. The trail is wide, maintained well, and nicely marked. It's more of a point to point trail, not a lot of scenery along the ride through Petoskey. It's along a busy road most of the time. As you go up to Charleoix, there is some nice scenery and places to stop as you see more nature. Its not something I would rate highly for a family trip. Going from Petoskey to Harbor Springs north is uphill most of the way with not much payoff as far as sights and stopovers. If you're up for a long challenging bike this is very nice. I wouldn't rate it high for a family bike trip with kids.

We rode from charlevoix to harbor springs. It is an easy ride on a well maintained path. There are several little towns to stop in along the way and the scenery is beautiful. If you ride up to harbor springs be sure to ride your bike along beach street, great views of the water and the beautiful homes!

We spent a week camping in Petoskey State Park and we were biking into Petoskey or Harbor Springs daily when the weather cooperated. The path to downtown is along the water and there is a pedestrian walkway that allows you to avoid crossing the highway into the downtown area. Also worth mentioning is the bike path connector inside Petoskey State Park which is on the last loop in the Tannery Campground. It's a mulch path through the trees that opens onto the bike path for quick access.
The path between the park to Harbor Springs is along M119 so it is quite busy, but crossing the highway is made easy with a signaled crosswalk. We also found an alternative route if you desire a back way to town that follows Beach Rd through the Menonaqua Nature Preserve. You can turn on Pennsylvania and then take Beach Dr through the historic Wequetonsing neighborhood along the shoreline. Either route is approximately 6 miles one way. There are few places that offer such beautiful views and to have a wheelway such as this one is rare.

This is a great place for a long ride in northern Michigan. The views of Little Traverse Bay are second to none, but there is also plenty of access to Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs if your ride is more leisurely.
Starting at one end, in either Charlevoix or Harbor Springs, and riding to the other makes for a great morning ride. The path is smooth, largely flat, and very scenic. Can't wait to do it again.

We went for the portion of this trail and all of it was along the very busy and loud 119. We could not even hear each other. It is paved and surface is OK. I would not go back.

Pedaled the stretch between Magnus Park (Petoskey) west to Resort Township’s East Park. Beautiful views from the bluff out over Little Traverse Bay. I’ve walked this section, too. Easy parking and only about 2.5 miles round trip. Rest halfway on a bench in East Park (there are restrooms there, too).

We biked the Little Traverse Wheelway from Bahnhof Sports at 31 & Stuart west for 5 miles and then back. The trails are well maintain and we didn't encounter any problems. Mostly flat with just a couple of small hills. Bring your camera - very scenic. We stopped at the marina for cocktails and lunch. Going to ride Charlevoix to Petoskey next.

We love biking in Michigan and this is one of my top 3! I love riding by Lake Michigan and the beauty! There are two spots that are closed due to high lake level. Highly recommend for biking

We biked this path from Charlevoix (rented bikes from Revolution Bikes) to Petoskey. We had lunch in downtown Petoskey, then biked back. It was so much fun, and the path is very nice and borders the Lake for a while. Gorgeous view!

Water views that rival the California and Northwest coast. These trails and the new ones are well thought out and go from Harbor Springs to Alanson to Petoskey to Charlevoix. These are all paved. There are mor that are cinder and connect to trail on the East side of the State.
The water view from Petoskey to Charlevoix is high ona bluff and you would think you are somewhere other than Michigan.

Only the Marquette from Midland to out past Clare is better......yet this pathway has much much better views.
What hold this trail back is all the curbs you gotta cross at Bay Harbor. Get past that and it's slightly hilly and fun. It's well maintained and it seems pretty safe. Some of the car around Bay Harbor are oblivious or rude to bikers.

You can do as much or as little as you like. We started from a lakeside park just east of Petoskey and rode to Bay View and returned. The trail is paved and the majority is right along the shoreline of Little Traverse Bay with only gradual changes of elevation.. A great way to see the area with lots of opportunity to stop for food or drink or just to enjoy the surroundings.

I love this bike path. It follows along Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan and you often have great water views. In Petoskey there are convenient parks and opportunities to refill water bottles or picnic. I have biked it from Charlevoix to Petoskey downtown, past Bay View, and to the Petoskey State Park, where there is a great beach to walk. Nice biking. Some hills.

Ran 3 miles into Bay Harbir from Petoskey and then back again. Very scenic with great views of the bay. Lots of runners and bicycle riders. Not too over crowded. Would come bike with bike some time and ride a lot further.

Ran this path from Petoskey to Charlevoix as the opening leg of the Lighthouse 100 ultramarathon. I found it to be the most enjoyable and picturesque leg of the entire race, especially as we watched the sun rise on the bay on a cool morning. I'm planning a long bike trip along the Lake Michigan coast and will definitely include the Wheelway in it. Can't wait to ride it!

My wife and I rode from Bay View City Park west to Nine Mile Point and back. It was a fairly easy ride there were a couple of hills but you can walk them if you need to. Shoreline trail, more than half shaded. Cool breeze even though we rode mid-day. Beautiful overlooks as well as shoreline access. Historic homes along way, many opportunities for off trail visiting of local establishments and sites. In MY TOP THREE

To take advantage of the Chamber of Commerce type weather on Labor Day Saturday, we rented hybrid bikes at Latitude 45 ($15 for 4 hours) and set sail from right behind their store. We rode west past Bay Harbor and then back east to Bay View (about 15 miles roundtrip) with a stop downtown for lunch.
The path is smooth and flat with spectacular views. We actually enjoyed the parts away from downtown Petoskey best because they were less crowded. Several families and weekend warriors out enjoying the morning.
Glad we decided to rent instead of hauling the bikes up for the long weekend. The rentals were great (same bike in store was going for $519) and they gave us a cable lock so we could make stops along the way. We brought our own bike helmets but those were included in the rental price.
We have done parts of the TART in Traverse City and thought this route was even nicer. Wish I lived closer so I could enjoy on a regular basis.

I took my daughter and two granddaughters (ages 8 & 12) cycling on the trail from Petoskey to Harbor Springs, and they had the time of their lives. The trail is easy riding, there are plenty of places along the bay to stop and enjoy the water, and the kids loved seeing a variety of wildlife and hunting for Petoskey stones. One of the kids' bicycle tires became low on air, and we had no difficulty finding a place to get it pumped up. And....it was great exercise for all. We're already planning our next outing on the Wheelway!!

This is a great paved almost flat trail so easy cycling available for all the family. We hired our bikes from Bahnhof Sport in Petosky and they were excellent quality.
Our favourite part of the trail was from Petosky to Harbor Springs which is a really beautiful, upscale small town on the Lake. Its 18 miles return but make sure you deviate slightly from the bike path at Venales restaurant (opposite) down quiet wooded Beach Street. This brings you out at the waterfront and past a beautiful street of big homes.
We also cycled to Bay Harbor, an attractive resort community and onto the MDOT lookout, another 18 miles return from Petosky. This part of the trail is not quite so nice IMO, as it runs very close to the main highway.
We had hoped to make it to Charlevoix too but if you want to do the whole trail and get into the centre of Charlevoix that's about 60 miles in a day and we ran out of time - and energy. If you want to do this and have time for looking around each town, have lunch etc I think you'd need to hire an e bike to make the journey quicker.

My husband, kids (11 and 13 yrs) and I biked from Harbor Springs to Petosky. Instead of getting at the Wheelway right at the trailhead, bike as long as possible along the lakefront and enjoy the incredible homes and lake views. There are places to get off and enjoy the lakeshore, including the beach at Petoskey State Park (no entrance fee for bike riders). You can also veer of slightly of the path to meander through what I think is Petoskey's Bay View neighborhood, lake side. If you cross M119 you can explore Bay View's incredible Victorians. We ended in downtown Petoskey's Gaslight Distict where we enjoyed a picnic lunch and fantastic gelato from American Spoon Cafe. On our way back, we made a pit stop at Petoskey Brewery to try the local brews. The path is mostly flat and easy. A great trip!

Great trail with beautiful scenery! We went is August and the weather was great for bike riding! I'm sure the fall when the leaves are changing would be a great time to go also!

Did 16 miles of the Wheelway from Downtown Petoskey back toward to Charlevoix. Amazing cycling trail as well as walking or running. Wonderful views of the bay. My daughter kept commenting on how pretty the views were. We rented a bike for her from Latitude 45. One of the best LBS I have been too. The staff was very friendly and ready to help. I will definitely use them in the future.

Great place to ride our recumbents . You can pick your distance and direction. Trail runs along the water in many spots.

I would love to have biked this entire wheelway because the views along Little Traverse Bay are unforgettable. What an ideally located trail, stretching 26 miles from Charlevoix on Lake Michigan to Harbor Springs on Little Traverse Bay, passing through Petoskey. The short section I did walk near Petoskey was a mixture of spectacular bay views and some not so interesting cityscapes. But the vast portion of this railway hugs the coastline and literally exposes you to ever-changing horizons around each curve. With more time, I would have loved to bike at least half the trail. Doing so would have engaged me directly and intimately with the outstanding seascapes, cloudscapes, and coastal formations of Little Traverse Bay. The whelky is also part of the North Country Trail system.

My friend and I walked the Wheelway from Bayfront Park almost to Petoskey State Park. Most of the scenery is outstanding, but the trail is poorly marked at some points. I recommend this to everyone. It's an easy walk or bike - no hills.

We rented bikes and was blessed with good weather. We rode from Petosky to harbor springs. We stopped at Polish kitchen on way back. It was a very nice area to ride bikes or walk.

Ride miles...mostly flat. Beginner to serious. Kids are fine-wear your helmet : ) Mostly secluded and away from traffic. Just do it!

We have taken this bike trail many times and from end to end. Scenery is spectacular! Can't wait to bike it on our tandem again!

Have ridden the Charlevoix to Bay Harbor route several times, and it's beautiful. Last weekend, we rode from Petoskey to Harbor Springs. It's much less spectacular, in that you are actually on M-119 for much of the route. However, it's worth it to ride into Harbor Springs.

Great bike path with outstanding views! Beautiful scenery and access to picturesque Charlevoix and Petoskey!

I have taken visiting guests on the wheel way for a short stroll or a 40 mile bike ride depending on interests. The wheel way pleases such a wide range of folks. The views walking back to Petoskey from Bar Harbor on a sunny makes you feel like you are visiting the tropics because Lake Michigan is so blue and beautiful.

....that's how we approached this bike trail. Lodging at Terrace Inn we simply headed to the trailway, virtually across the street. The North trail to Harbor Springs hugs the Bay and then follows M119 turning alongside the airport and then into the city. We headed up along the bluff for wonderful views, then down to the City, past the marina. Rather than taking the exact route back, we took Beach Rd back along the water to M119. Trail is in good repair and many wonderful views.
The following day we headed past the marina in Petoskey, the waterfall, to Bay Harbor (where the trail leaves the water) on to Charlevoix. The trail at about 10 miles out,is in need of repair. Tree roots have done extensive damage and not enjoyable.
Paint indicates that repair may be in the offing.
Also, at this point you are cycling along busy 31...very noisy. Also noticed many discourteous riders who were on a mission...none of this on the North leg. Overall a fun trailway.
BTW...ice cream available in Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

It was amazing! It was super fun to pedal on and super easy. Easily made it from Petoskey State Park to Downtown Petoskey. It was so fun!

Little Traverse Wheelway is a great place for the entire family to see the sights. It goes along the Bay and can take you to Bay Harbor for lunch or towards Harbor Springs.

The Wheelway is a must do if you are in this area! Trail is kept extremely clean and well maintained. Scenery is beautiful. Park in Petoskey is a great pit stop and offers spectacular views.

Loved this trail! Rode with my husband, rent bikes from Bahnhof Sport, then head North on Trail so you stay off the busy road and stay on the quiet scenic trail! Stop along the way to hike down to crystal clear water! We biked to Bay Harbor and stopped for lunch and awesome bloody mary's at Knot Just a Bar. Wonderful view of all the yachts. Easy flat ride, very scenic, views are stunning of Lake Michigan! If we ever go again will probably take the kids with us.

We enjoyed cycling The paved route that connects various cities allowed us to explore some of the area on two wheels. The route is well signed and offers interesting stops . It's an excellent way to cycle safely and enjoy the lovely scenery.

This well-kept asphalt trail is a joy to ride. Although not terribly challenging in terms of grade changes, it is perfect for casual riders and the views of the lake are wonderful.

We rented an apt with views of the Wheelway in Petoskey. It runs for 26 miles from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs and is a beehive of activity: bikers, walkers, babies in strollers, dogs on leashes. We walked some distance on the wheelway along Bayfront Park, a beautiful area below the downtown. A great place to visit.

We were staying nearby on a trip to the Upper Peninsula and needed to get in a run. Path was clear and not too busy. We did about 5 miles on the trail with beautiful views, stopped along a rocky beach and found a handful of Petoskey stones along with a petrified tooth. Looks to be a beautiful trail for a walk/run/bike.

Path from Petoskey to Bay Harbor is perfect. Well thought out, well maintained, and beautiful. First time staying in Petoskey and we will make it a top priority to visit.

We biked from Petoskey state park to Bend Harbor. It was a paved stroll with many breathtaking views. We biked past the chocolate factory, the waterfall park, and ended at the Bend Harbor East Park (round trip). There were several rest spots in between for a quick pitstop. We will be back and next time bring the kids along!

to have the most beautiful bike trails anywhere. I just wish they had lockers to keep my bike so I wouldn't have to schlep it back and forth

You can enjoy the coast of Lake Michigan for miles on this paved trail from Charleviox to Harbor Springs. My favorite is riding from a bit south of Bay Harbor into Petoskey as you get to see things you may miss if driving this route.

The bike ride started out from the bay harbor motorcoach resort and went all the way to the Bob-In custard stand. We could have gone further but round trip it was about 14 miles. Good path, great scenery and lots of people enjoying the area.

We loved this trail. We were staying in Petoskey, Michigan for a long weekend and had a great time. The trail runs from Charlevoix, MI to Harbor Springs. Petoskey is the mid point. We biked to Charlevoix one day (about 17 miles one way) and to Harbor Springs the next (about 9 miles one way). The path is well maintained and offers many different things from beautiful vistas of the lake to small town America. This was one of our most enjoyable trips so far. Petoskey is a hidden gem! Also some of the most amazing sunsets!!!

I LOVED this bike path. I only did a short stretch from Petoskey to Bay Harbor. Gorgeous views of Lake Michigan! I stopped for water at a small shop in Bay Harbor, soaked up the sun and views from an Adirondack chair on the beach at Bay Harbor, then headed back to Petoskey. Can't beat the combination of exercise, great views, and relaxation in the sun on Lake Michigan!

A great way to experience the coastline of Little Traverse Bay. A well maintained pathway, with numerous small parks along the way (restrooms) and places to pull off and walk down to the water and search for Petoskey stones. Warning: some of the bike rental stores stop renting by end of September, so call first. View a bike path map and compare location of rental shops to determine where you want to ride from.

The segment between Petoskey and Charlevoix is everything people rave about. The segment between Petoskey and Harbor Springs is everything people rant about. Unless your goal is to ride the complete trail I recommend starting in Petoskey Bayfront Park and heading southwest towards Bay Harbor and Charlevoix.

Safe, scenic, wonderful bike path - ride as little, or ride as much as you like...spans from Charlevoix area to Harbor Springs area, passing through Petoskey and Bay View. I think the most scenic portion is Petoskey to Charlevoix.

My family rode on this bike path when we stopped in Petoskey on our way up to Mackinac Island. My husband and I , and our two boys, ages 11 and 8, started at the Bay Front park. We ate a picnic lunch in the grass and then we were on our way. My kids are natural complainers, so I had low expectations about how far we were going to go. The path itself was beautiful and safe. We enjoyed views of Lake Michigan, and biked through a nice tree lined path. That's when my kids conked out and we turned back, approximately 20-25 minutes after we started. On the way back we stopped and walked along a break wall, where people were jumping off and swimming. People were flying huge kites in the large field next to the break wall. Afterward, we stopped at a small park for a few minutes and then we were on our way! Adults with stamina could easily make this an all day activity since the path goes for miles along the coastline.

My wife and I rode our bikes from Petoskey to Bay Harbor...the trail is smooth and safe...the views of the water are truly breathtaking...there is a park on the way to Bay Harbor that have clean bathrooms...once at Bay Harbor there are cute shops and a nice restaurant at the Marina call "The Knot"...good Bloody Marys... total round trip was around 12 miles...Great Bike Trail!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I'm not a huge biker, so I was a bit nervous that this would be a bumpy ride. Not at all, hilly at times but the gorgeous views will make you quickly forget that you're getting a workout. This trail is amazing, I miss it already. There was a lot of work and money put into this and it is used and greatly appreciated. Wish I lived there so I could ride daily.

Biking along the lake and ponds. This trail really starts in Charlevoix and you ride between the lake and the highway. Overall an excellent experience. Do be careful to note the wind direction. More than once we cruised a long way thinking life was great only to turn around and find a 15mph headwind, a long slow ride back. Once past Harbor Springs the trial takes on a different look riding through parks and harbors in Petoskey. Simply stunning! Once past Petoskey you can either run out toward Harbor Springs (which is along the road and not a great ride) or turn north and head toward Macinaw. This is another great ride through woods and then along the highway. Lunch spots about every four miles on this stretch. At last check the trail stops in Alanson and you can take the road about 500 more feet to some restaurant choices. Rumor is this year the trail will complete up to Macinaw. We will do it next summer! Awesome.

This was one of the most beautiful Bike trails I have ever been on! So many beautiful things to see as your biking and such a diverse amount of scenery. Even if you are a novice biker, this is an easy enough trail to bike.

This path is our local gem. Always beautiful and ever expanding. We have spent lots of hours biking, walking, snowshoeing, skiing, rollerblading, and more.

We did the ride from Petoskey to Charlevoix which was a little over thirty miles round trip. Beautiful ride through trees, and along Lake Michigan. This is an easy to moderate bike ride for the young and old alike. Pack a backpack with goodies and enjoy a little picnic in the park a few miles outside of Charlevoix.

One cannot say enough for a bike trail that keeps one largely separated from traffic, provides amazing scenery and allows one to go from Petoskey to Charlevoix safely. The bridges over wetlands are especially cool and the whole trail is a delight!

This is probably the most beautiful bike path in Northern Michigan. Good for runners, walkers, and bikers. Not well suited for the fast road bikers, as it gets congested in some areas, especially the Petoskey waterfront area.
The area between Petoskey and Bay Harbor has breath taking views. You can connect with other well maintained paths and travel to Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, and Alanson.

I came up here to kayak but took an extra day so I could explore Petoskey and the LTW. It was a great ride with beautiful views of the bay and quaint parks. I was told to go south towards Charlevoix which was perfect for me. I am thankful to the people who come up with these ideas and shared with so many.

We stayed at Bay Inn near Bay Harbor and Split the trail into 2 rides. Day 1 we rode from Petoskey to Charlevoix. 30+ miles. Beautiful views and the the trail conditions were perfect. Very flat. Had lunch in Charlevoix and rode back to Petoskey. Day 2 we rode from Petoskey to Harbor Springs. A little shorter ride at 28 miles but you could add some miles by heading north on the Northwestern State trail. I feel that the Wheelway is a must ride trail if you bike.

This trail takes you along beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline, quaint towns and quiet tree lined paths- a real photo opportunity. The 23 mile one way trail is great for hard core bikers or families with kids. Go all the way and complete the 26 miles round trip or only sections and you will have still had a great experience. The trail is also marked very well.

I read about the Little Traverse Wheelway in a bike magazine a couple of years ago and was enamored by the description. This past year, we planned a bike trip in northern Michigan that included this bike path and found it to be all that we hoped. The scenery along Lake Michigan is spectacular. Most rail-trails are pretty flat but this one has some challenging climbs! They are short, but I had to walk my bike up one particularly short steep stretch and then there is a good climb out of Petoskey on the way to Harbor Springs. Do not be daunted! It is worth the trip. We stopped in Petoskey for lunch on the way to Harbor Springs. We continued up to Mackinaw City/Mackinac Island, down the North Central State trail to Indian Springs (crushed limestone) and then caught the LTW on the way back to Charlevoix. It's an easier ride going south. There is also a new paved path from Petoskey to Alanson, which is a nice ride, too. Harbor Springs is a sweet little town to visit as well. My one quibble with the bike path is that there is not much in the way of signage at the Charlevoix end of the trail. I was very confused coming off the trail in Charlevoix about getting back into town -- it's a very busy little resort town and getting across Rte 31, once you find it, can be tricky. It would be great if the city had some markings to guide the way. We met people from all over the country and even the world who were riding the LTW. It's that much fun.

Stopped there for an late afternoon for walk by the lake and to enjoy the nice weather. People walking dogs and riding bikes. Nice to enjoy nature as well as hunt for Petrosky stones. Friends
Found many in the water 2 feet from edge. Beautiful way to see the best of Lake Michigan

I live 20 minutes away from The Little Traverse Wheelway. You can walk, bike, xc skiing or snowshoe. Take your choice of the wooded path or lake view. Start in Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Charlevoix the views are spectacular. I would recommend researching the pathway miles you want to cover, there are many options. Great for all ages and all seasons.

We bikes from Bahnhofs wonderful bike & ski rental past downtown Petosky to the playground. A wonderful ride ( or walk) mostly past BEAUTIFUL Little Traverse Bay shoreline.

I am training for two very long bike rides at the end of the summer and this is a great place to ride. The lake views are wonderful.

beautiful scenery in a special part of the USA....comfortable biking...can be nippy or hot in the summer so check weather..towns of Petoskey and Harbor Springs are small gems along Little Traverse Bay...area can be quite busy in the summer so biking a good way to get about...this is a resort area with charming Victorian homes all along the water in Bay view and Wequetonsing

This path is so awesome! If you are anywhere near Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, or Alanson in the Spring to Fall times, make sure to get on your bike or feet and check out this trail. I used it all the time to bike to the Petoskey State Park Beach, run to East Park, check out Bay Harbor, fly a kite in the lakefront parks, take the kids to the big clock, etc. Must use!

We have returned for a second year to bike on this trail. This time we went from Petoskey to Charlevoix. Lots of variety in scenery from views of Lake Michigan, forested areas and running alongside a highway! Very nice trail

Being an avid cyclist, I cycled this beautiful cyclist path from one end to the other and enjoyed every mile of it. Well maintained and offering some beautiful lake vistas as you cycle along.

We took the trails from Petoskey to Charlevoix one day, 40 miles r.t., then to harbor springs the next day. Well maintained, beautiful scenery. A great way to have fun.

We enjoyed a beautiful bike ride along the Little Traverse Wheelway on this lovely sunny Autumn day. The biking trails here in Petosky are abundant and picturesque. We are so glad we came and that we were blessed with such perfect weather. This is a wonderful town for biking.

Just beautiful! We should have been a little more prepare. When riding our bikes from Petoskey to Charlevoix (14 miles) we did not pack enough snacks. There is really no place to purchase snacks to "refuel" until you get inot Charlevoix.

I ran a couple miles from the Marina in Petoskey to Bay View and back. About half of my run had some view of the water. The availability of pathways like this one make an area more attractive to visitors and residents.

Loved the bike trail! Wide and fairly well marked but you have to look for the bike route signs by the marina and Magnus park. We rode from Petoskey to Charlevoix and back but give yourself plenty of time. You do have to cross some driveways and streets in Petoskey so pay attention. The scenery was nice, especially by the lake. Wish every town had nice trails like this!

a must do if u want to see the beautiful parts around the town of the scenic Petoskey and the small lil town of Charlevoix . the ride along is a hop on one ,so you can just drive in some parts n cycle in some .. and places to stop n take some unforgettable pictures .

Run or walk or bike all or part. 27 miles and safe with great views. You will wish everyplave you visited had this.

this trail is my favorite in Michigan. The bay is in site much of the trail and you can in at the deli in Bay Harbor. The barbecue chicken pizza is the best.

Made our annual summer trip to Petoskey to ride this trail. We have nothing like it downstate. It runs along Lake Michigan with great views and a wonderful breeze. There are places to picnic and fill our water bottles and use the restroom all along the way. We rode 22 miles RT and it was awesome today. All asphalt and flat and not heavily used as you might expect. A perfect trail and one of our State's gems.

We started in Petoskey and walk to Bay Harbor Resort and back. Path is peaceful and the views are spectacular. Can't wait to ride bikes next time.

If you can ride a bike or walk and don't do at least part of the historic scenic Wheelway, you will be sorry. Bike rentals are at convenient locations. It's perfectly maintained, safe and the scenery is endless and beautiful. We did the section from Bay View to Bay Harbor and back, a perfect morning trek, easy pedaling, a perfect way to work off your breakfast!

walked around the bay while waiting for the fireworks and was just taken with the view. This is a wonderful path.

This is a really nice bike/walk path that goes for miles. You can start in Charlevoix, cruise past Bay Harbor, drop down along the lake and into downtown Petoskey and continue all the way to Harbor Springs. Some days you have it to yourself and other days it's like an crowded expressway, but the scenery is great and there are good places to stop to eat or rest.

The trail is paved for its entirety and offers beautiful views of Little Traverse Bay, beautiful lakefront homes and clubs. Terrain is rolling with a real hill or two, but overall not too strenuous for someone accustomed to cycling. The trail doesn't include the town of Charlevoix, but you'll see nice spots in Bay Harbor, Petoskey and Harbor Springs. Consider leaving the trail at the north end of Petoskey State Park to take Beach Road into Harbor Springs for a scenic view of older Harbor Springs neighborhoods.
This is different from a "rail trail" experience and includes some sidewalks.

We had a great time biking on the Wheelway recently. We started in Petosky with rented bikes, went about 8 miles along the trail and back. There is beautiful scenery all along, some parts are right along the lake and some are through wooded areas.

Gorgeous views of Little Traverse Bay. From Charlevoix to Petoskey and around the bay to Harbor Springs. Great day trip with a stop at East Park for a break that has public restrooms and drinking fountain.

This trail is great for biking. Starting in Petoskey, you follow the bay for about 10-15 min I think, with stunning views. There is the occasional park with bathrooms along the trail. It runs all the way to Charlevoix, though I did not make it that far. It passes by some large resorts and private communities. When you hit townline rd. there is a park down the road called West Park I believe with a nice walking trail to the lake again. A nice break from biking, and not often traveled, yet very beautiful.

It's a long, picturesque bike trail that offers a wonderful way to exercise. You can ride from just before the Petoskey State Park through the town of Petoskey all the way to Bay Harbor. I've done it on several different occasions. It's always beautiful.

We started at East Park & went north toward Harbor Springs to the State park. Did this with a 6 yo child on the trail-a-bike. I think it was ~ 15 miles round trip. Stopped for a bagel & coffee at Big Apple Bagels mid way. I'm sure we could have found a better place to eat but we were not dressed for Stafford's & no locks with us, so bagels it was. The state park was desolate, one car in the lot. Just a different feel in the fall, so many less people. Trail was perfect. We did see other runners, walkers & bikers, but not many. Big waves on the bay, beautiful scenery.

Go online and get maps to learn where this very long bike trail runs. A good portion is paved and flat. It runs along the lake and in some beautiful areas. Again, going online to see where can be picked up and where it goes is imperative for enjoyment and reward..
Little Traverse Wheelway - A Must Bike Ride!
We have ridden the Little Traverse Wheelway in the upper part of the lower peninsula of Michigan a few times and plan to go back again! The beautiful scenic path is 26 miles of dedicated trail, from downtown Charlevoix to downtown Harbor Springs.
If you enjoy easy ridIng, this is one bike path we highly recommend!
