quiet and peaceful walks but there are bars and restaurants in the vicinity. Beaches are so clean you would never think that you were in Queens LOL

Long Beach, NY Beaches are the BEST!

By Veronica R |

I have lived in Long Beach, NY for over 30 years. The sand, surf and sun are the best they have ever been! I admit it was a bit of a mess after Hurricane Sandy, but all has returned to normal! Come one, come all-the entire town has open arms and needs your business to rebound! No charge after Labor Day until Memorial Day to access the beaches!

Long Beach NY

By NYtravman |

Great beach, easy parking on the street. Restrooms and showers are available and are okay. Good places to eat near the boardwalk and don't miss the food trucks for lunch

Nice beach

By Ravindra V |

It 's a very nice beach and very peaceful as there is not much crowd here. Long Beach town itself is very pleasant.

Day Trip to Long beach

By Sally G |

The beach looks OK from the boardwalk. $15 per person to walk on the sand is a little rich for Australians used to using the beach for free. The boardwalk is busy and makes for easy walking. There are plenty of people about.

A fantastic new Boardwalk - Congrats and thanks to those who got this done!

By Sapphire Ed |

It took a while after the storm to rebuild the boardwalk but well worth the wait. To the politicians and fund raisers and especially to the laborers we say thanks!
Val and I like to take the bikes over to the LB boardwalk and do a lap. It is just so nice and smooth to ride on and with the marked bike lane it is a lot safer than before.
I just wish the powers that be would see that the Atlantic Beach Boardwalk is a disaster and redo that one now. With the old boards sticking up and the nails popping up everywhere it is an accident waiting to happen.
Visit Long Beach with all of the great restaurants it offers and while there take a stroll on the Boardwalk!

Nice relaxing getaway.

By Abraham L |

Great place for a stroll or bike ride. A bit off the beaten path, very peaceful and friendly area. Great to watch the surfers go out on their boards from the comfort of the benches on the boardwalk..

Tips from a local

By jtmarino |

Stop at all the stop signs, don't roll through. Bikes ride with traffic - NOT Against. Don't park in my driveway, I know I can get out if you are only in a foot but not cool. respect the locals and you will have fun. Littering always bad - there are plenty of garbage cans. Drinking on beach is not allowed so be discrete. Bikes ride in the middle of the boardwalk. Walkers and Joggers on the outside. Pay attention, some bikes are going pretty fast and they own the middle. The restaurants and bars are good and fun. enjoy. The beaches east of the train station are the best, when walking to the beach that is to your left.

Very nice white sand beach, boardwalk with HORRIBLE rest rooms

By Naren R |

Very nice white sand beach. You have to pay to access the beach and it is worth. Didn’t find any seaweed on the beach – except for some of it in the water. The boardwalk is free and very wide with few stores in tents. There are some eateries at the entrance of the boardwalk. There was ample parking and is free. One thing that is really really horrible are the restrooms.

Relaxing

By Ivee G |

great place to walk in the sun, their are food trucks to choose to eat and I love Long Beach to relax

Very clean beach and boardwalk

By David S |

September 2022
One of the widest, smoothest, cleanest boardwalks I have ever walked on. I walked a few miles along the beach and boardwalk on a lovely September afternoon, and it was wonderful. I'd like to come back and experience the area during the summer, but for my short visit when passing through, it was very enjoyable. The beach is clean and spacious with very soft sand.

Filled with People Exercising

By Bill M |

The Boardwalk is filled with people running, biking, walking and just admiring the ocean view. Can't beat it anywhere.

There is sand and lifeguards

By Princess279 |

It all depends on your idea of a beach day. It is a wide strip of a white sand by the water...available at $15pp. It is a bargain, compared to at $50 per car non-resident fee at the nearby Hampstead. The boardwalk is amazing to walk, run or ride a bike. If you get too hot and want to take a dip, there's a brown colored water available with a view of numerous cargo ships lined up at the horizon (possibly responsible for the color of the water). This would not be my choice of the beach to bring a family for a beach day, I rather head out to Jersey.

By Joseph B |

Not actually in New York City, Long Beach is a small city, in Nassau County, Long Island. Just east of New York City, Long Beach is on a barrier island, along the south shore of Long Island. There's a lovely broadwalk, along the beach, giving a view of the Atlantic Ocean. Easily accessible by car, Long Island Railroad, or bus, the white sand beach is nicer than many in the Mediterranean.

Old but so cool @

I love Long Beach it sold but has so much character the people are friendly for the most part I would definitely stay in Long Beach again!

Replacement for Breezy Point

By Margaret F |

After the death of Grandma and the sale of her house in Breezy Point, I stopped going to the beach. I love the beach. But I just couldn’t find a replacement for a place in which i had grown up. Yes, I’ve been to Rockaway, Jones Beach, Fire Island etc. They are all beautiful and each one unique in its own right. But something was missing for me.
This spring my adult daughter moved to Freeport and started frequenting Long Beach. I went with her on a beautiful summer day and loved it !
It’s clean. If you go early you can park. There are restrooms. There are places to eat. There’s a boardwalk with bike rentals available and there’s an annual craft fair among other yearly events. I actually started going there by myself when our work schedules differed.
I miss Grandma and Breezy Point. But it’s the same ocean. So here’s to Grandma and a tip of the sun visor to Long Beach. I’ll be back.

Beach off season

By H Marque |

There's always someplace to go in Long Beach - the boardwalk !
The moment the temperatures break and the sun comes out, everyone flocks to walk / bike the boardwalk.

Very Long Love Beach

By Phil M |

This is a beach with many grains of sand and many smiling faces. The tan people flaunt their succulent bodies on the beach while the red faced civil servant types drink all day in the many nearby bars. The area is very safe and the people friendly.

$15!!!

By Fernanda A |

We got there by train from Manhattan. I almost faint when I realized we had to pay $15 per person to enter the beach! The boardwalk is nice but we only saw one restroom and only the back of the buildings, not a nice restaurant or cafe, so not worth it at all!

Hometown style

By Zarena A |

Clean, friendly with best Restaurant and of course the best almost private beach! Timely public transportation. Allegra Hotel is conveniently located on the boardwalk. Walk to the beach from the LIRR station is easy.

beach in new york

By amazinggirls |

new york famous with big building, sea but how about the beach? if you wanna see our beach just visit here... very famous for shooting film

Rude and very disrespectful place and service

By Антон Е |

The ticket guy saw that we were with a dog, but still sold us a ticket. However, after 15 minutes, the police asked us to leave the beach and we didn't get a refund for the ticket. When I called customer support, they were very rude and hung up on me after I explained the situation. They are ruining our weekend.

Don't know...

By hr1487 |

I wish I could tell you how Long Beach is. The reality is that after driving around for 45 minutes we couldn't find a parking space that wouldn't have required us to walk about ten-fifteen blocks. Keep that in mind if you're visiting the area. It seems as though everybody and their brother came out from NYC to visit Long Beach on a recent Sunday. Very disappointed in the horrible parking conditions. I can't imagine living/summer vacationing there. If you're going to go I'd have to recommend getting there before dawn.

A ideal beach location in New York

By Gemma |

The is an ideal area to escape from the city's heat, only 1 hour from Penn Station on the LIRR with so many access points along the way.
We spent a few weekends there over the summer. BUT it really came into its own when the grandchildren joined us. Between the beach, boardwalk & the city playgrounds that have water features, they never left the island until it was time to go home. I think we have Long Beach converts.

This is a year round beach.

By Doug M |

Since Hurricane Sandy, the powers that be, have re-invested in this attraction. I love walking the boardwalk and stopping at the fitness equipment along the way. I'm a former airline employee and an admitted airline geek and the benches are perfect of watching the finally approach of incoming flights to JFK

Great Walk

By Yoke81 |

Fantastic promenade for walking, running or cycling. Clean and safe. Great repair work after a bashing from Sandy. Great Beach also.

It's back

By milton260 |

We have always enjoyed Long beach for its 'beach town'. we enjoy its small stores, nice beach, breezes from the Ocean & from the Bay and most of all walking & biking on its wide 2.x mile boardwalk.

We were happy to see this summer that all seems as was prior to Hurricane Sandy. We enjoyed a really smooth bike ride on the new bamboo boardwalk.

Long Beach is a special place

By Malka E |

Our beaches are simply beautiful
The sand is soft and our waves simply perfect.
Our boardwalk now has choices of so many place to eat and rent a bike or just sit and commune with nature.

Excellent beach 40 min from nyc

Beautiful beach. Vibrant town. Many excellent restaurants. Surf school bike rentals. It was 90+ degrees in the city today. Here it was mid 70s with a.beautiful ocean breeze. Also a 2.5 mile boardwalk

$12 to go on the beach #outrageous

By Thebates22 |

Visited long beach on Long Island late afternoon (5pm) yesterday. Got stopped and asked for our beach passes to access the beach by two teenagers sat in a kiosk.

We thought it was a scam at first, but then realised it wasn't and the Long Beach powers that be, do actually charge $12 per person per day to go to the beach between 7am and 6pm, When I highlighted that it was 5pm and asked if we still had to pay the full amount we were told that we did... You cannot access any part of Long beach ocean side without paying at one of the many manned access locations.

Anyway we didn't go on the beach and went for a bite to eat and came back at 6pm when it was free... #outrageous

Long Beach

By Sadie W |

I was lucky enough to have a friend take me straight to the beach after a lot of travelling. What a treat. Just what I needed! The nicest city beach I've seen. Lovely soft white sand.

Beautiful beach!

By Jack |

Long Beach is very vast and beautiful. It is usually crowded in the busier sections, but the beach is huge, so there is always room. In February they have an annual “polar plunge”, which I did. I’ve been here in the august and late May as well. Both times the weather was beautiful and the beach was very clean. Long Beach is also close to Queens (in NYC) and JFK airport. Overall, I highly recommend!

A great summer vacation on

By pod63 |

One of the best restaurants is Gino's on West Park area. The boardwalk is a great place for walking Bicycle riding. Also for concerts. Long Beach has great beaches volleyball and water sports.

Ocean, Beautiful Beach and a NEW Boardwalk

By Decor71 |

There is nothing better than going to Long Beach on a sunny day. It's an all year treat. In the winter, even if it is cold, you have
than fabulous boardwalk for walking or bike riding. In the summer, you have the beach.
Nature at its best.

easy LIRR ride to boardwalk and beach

By vhbeck84 |

Long Beach is a great local beach option from NYC. The beach and ocean there are beautiful; many different sections to choose from. The train lets you out about 3 blocks from the beach and there are little shops, delis, supermarket to get things at if desired. The crowds have found Long Beach but there's still plenty of room on the wide expanse of beaches, you just may need to walk down a bit to a different section.

It's Okay, not fantastic

By Deborah387 |

I would think twice staying in Long Beach. Yes the beach is beautiful but the boardwalk is packed with bikes and joggers and your constately wondering if your going to get knocked over. Their really isn't much to do in the area unless you are going to walk the main road. Not my style. I definately enjoy Point Pleasant, NJ with everything at my finger tips. I don't want to know I have to walk far to get a slice of pizza or find a nice restaurant.....

My hometown

By patricia r |

We moved to Long Beach after 30 years in Manhattan to raise our young daughter, We wanted a place where outdoor activities rule and there are fitness minded folks. Our daughter started in pre-school and just graduated from the High School this year. We love the beach, the sunsets, the proximity to New York City, the easy commute and the real estate opportunities. The local restaurants are amazing. The surf community is flourishing. One downside, no plan for dog walking on the beach in off hours and off season.

Best beach in NY

By Younus K |

This is surly number one if you would like to go to a beach in NY. Super clean beach with all required facilities. There is a $15 entry fee per person but it doesn't hurt to pay for a super clean beach. Also its a non alcohol and non smoking beach which makes it more comfortable for families.

Long Beach NY is Best Beach

By BonBons60750 |

Oh how I did not know what I had until it was gone. We used to live in Long Beach and I did not appreciate that stunning stretch of sand until we moved away. Now on the West Coast I long for the soft white sand and that familiar boardwalk where I could walk, jog or bike my cares away. The Beach itself is worth every penny. If you want cheaper access, go to Jones Beach, but if you want white, clean sand...Long Beach should be your destiination

I Love This Town

By Don F |

Long Beach NY is beautiful--it's like Coney Island, but without all of the seaside resort-type stuff.

The Boardwalk is back, and better than ever!

By KenfromNY |

Been walking this boardwalk for longer than I'd care to admit. (Well, well before Sandy.)

The repairs have been done, there are plenty of bikes to rent, and the view of the ocean is just stupendous.

A definite Long Island tradition!

DrOve throught long Beach

By Marshmallowman |

Long Beach is a cutsey town with almost everything, from sand to bars to hotels. Go take a walk on the boardwalk!

Almost worth the price of admission

By KTBNY |

I would give Long Beach 5 stars if it didn't cost so much to get on the beach. I don't like having to pay to get on the beach but I will to enjoy some fun in the sun. As a non-resident, it costs $15 for a day pass. Residents only get a $3.00 discount for day passes. If I paid the taxes it costs to live there, I'd want to get on the beach for free. The beach itself is beautiful and clean. The boardwalk was rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy and is really nice. If you drive in from the City, you can drive to Long Beach either from the west or east end. If you come in from the west end, you come through Atlantic Beach and have to pay a $2.00 toll, which isn't covered by EZ-Pass. If you come from the east end, there isn't a toll into Lido Beach, which is next door to Long Beach. You can also take the Long Island Railroad and get a package, which includes the beach pass. There are some restaurants along the boardwalk and also within a few blocks from many areas of the beach. There is usually street parking near the beach for free. There are chair and umbrella rentals at some entrances to the beach but be prepared to pay $27.00 for both.

Beautiful, Clean and Fun!

By Thomas D |

From an afternoon at a smaller beach, to the boardwalk with several amenities, and evening entertainment on the beach, Long Beach Is A MUST visit. The sand is clean, fine and without many crushed shells as the North Shore Beaches have. People keep the beach clean here! Not too Crowded, and free evening summer concert series, well that explains it. Check out the lineup on google, many different cover bands! Free parking is available, and lots of stuff to do!

Terrible place to leave, don't support the town

By Explorer55977683059 |

Long Beach is sh....t! You charge a pass to residents how dare you? We pay so much in taxes already! There are so many junkies around the train station and you don't allow dogs to run in the beach? Is Disgusting you have a small sh.... dog park for it! Make me really wanna leave this place

Clean, spacious

By Zack S |

Bought the LIRR getaway package, $28 for round trip train and beach access. Beach has all amenities (food, restrooms), is very well maintained (clean), and is huge with a good 80 feet reserved at the back for activities. Worth the trip from Manhattan.

Long Beach New York NOT California

By Alison G. |

Long Beach as a community has changed dramatically over the years. As much as Hurricane Sandy destroyed in 2012, enterprising businesses restored and homeowners built up. Everything is bigger, higher (to avoid flooding) and fancier.

One thing remains the same, the beach. Long Beach, NY has one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in North America. It is public. So all you have to do is pay for entry. There is an LIRR and beach entry combo ticket. The beach is great in the summer. Walks on the adjacent boardwalk are an attraction much of the year.

nice beach

By chez2p |

you have to pay but it is a great beach albeit a bit too tightly controlled. dune restoration starting July 10 will make even better. upcoming dining scene with Lost and Found and Grotta del Fuocco. Lots of events.

Getting out of control with "beach passes" and harassing beach goers

By Bryan S |

Long beach is a beautiful beach. I have been coming during the summer months for the past 12-15 years. Year after year the day passes seem to continue to go up in price, now at around $15 per person to walk on the beach (most other beaches are roughly $10 per car). My friends and I used to avoid the fee by arriving prior to 9 am when the booths opened and staying as long as we wanted. However, now they have their "special police" walking around, bothering people and their family/friends for proof of a beach pass. Woke me up from a good nap today! Just to tell me that it doesn't matter that I arrived before 9 and that "I had no way to prove I was here before the booths opened". What a joke.

love it

By Roberto L |

If i don't have a vacation plan i don't have to lookout for a beach to go i have every thing that any one will like to have excellent beach great restaurant marvelous neighbor plus i am a resident of this beautiful town ,The Restoration after the Sandy is been great the new board walk after the complete destruction look great an amazing after what i saw that day Visit without a doubt

BEST BEACH IN NY!

By NYCSoul |

First time at this beach and i cant express how clean the beach was, LIRR leaves you walking distance from the beach and there are lots of restaurants and shops to choose from. Granted the commute is ok. but if you take the 10:30 or so train it goes straight to the beach with zero stops in between.

Walking the Boardwalk!

By PaulaNYFL |

What a nice place to see the sunset which was exactly what we did last evening. We needed to get out of the house and decided to go down to Long Beach for a leisurely stroll. Lots of people enjoying the warm weather. There are joggers, bicyclists, families and couples enjoying their time on the boardwalk. There were lots of people still on the beach and why not- the weather was ideal! It's a great place to people watch, read a book, or catch up with friends or family. Lots of benches to sit and look out at the beach and ocean.

The Little City that Could...

By Zhiv |

One of the best hidden secrets in the downstate area of NY, the barrier islands of south shore of Long Island. If you get too close to New York City, by virtue of the crowds brought in by the magnetism exerted by the beautiful sands and the easy access and exposure to the Atlantic, the pleasure could be self-limited... after all it is all only one city subway ride away for Coney Island or Rockaway Beach...
Long Beach is the next sand bank going East, it is a huge island, harboring several towns, Atlantic Beach, Long Beach, Lido Beach, Point Lookout. The City of Long Beach is the only one that has a Railway Station, with easy connections to New York City. It is a larger town, with population of over 20000, a true municipal center. The famous Boardwalk as the rest of the town are being refurbished after the recent Hurricane Sandy devastation, but when finished, they will look glorious. Surfing is great from early spring thru late fall, and you can occasionally see some enthusiasts do it in the middle of winter as well. You are likely to not find after beach life, including bars and restaurants in the proximity of the finest sand beach within long distances from the city. Long Beach has all the necessary ingredients of successful a ocean side town and more.

City by the Sea,,,,,, NY not Calif.

Great Boardwalk [ 2.5 miles ] with food kiosks and special events
also convienient to LIRR from NYC.
Great restaurants and night life is legendary

Great view/ great day/ The Boardwalk.

By Resort15556554847 |

What a wonderful place to just relax; the Long Beach boardwalk. Temperature is 60. The sun in your face, the wind in your hair, the waves gently swaying back n forth, so soothing for stress. Wish it was this way all year long.
Thank you for rebuilding this beautiful boardwalk for all of us to share.

Beach I've been going for 13 years

By R6Ken |

After the hurricane took half of this place down, part of boardwalk has been updated as well as some of the shower areas. This place does get packed during the summer time as there are train station that is about 10 min away from the beach. Pleasantly speaking, this is much better beach than Coney Island as for the people and the water. I can't say the water here is the cleanest as well. There are some days where the water is clean but most of the times not. One good thing about this beach coming from NJ side is that they allow food to be on the beach. A surprising fact about most of the paid beaches in NJ is the fact that you actually can't bring in food and drinks (I think water is fine) to the beach. I guess they do that to support the restaurants around that beach area. LB has separated the beach with a small rock jetties each about 1/4 of a mile long. They have separate surf section and the regular sections. Ample of beach so that you don't have to pile on top of each other and smell the smoke, hear the music of the neighbors.

Expensive to touch the Beach!

By donna_jimhol |

The boardwalk was very nice. It was free & you have a good view of the beach & ocean below.
However, if you want to join the million other beach goers & put your chair in the sand or touch the water, you'll pay $15 EACH for the opportunity!! The lifeguards & fee ends at 6pm, so you can go for free after that, but the beach patrol will blow their whistle at all those who attempt to enter the water.

BEACH < FUN< SUN < SAND<

By Lu K |

I go every week to enjoy the whitest beach in New York!
Fresh air and sunshine! Fine dining and great pizza (Ginos on Park, East End Pizza, West end Pizza)
Hot dogs on the beach.
Try the OUTLOOK bar on NEW YORK AVE on the beach.
Come have fun......

Great short hop from NYC

By MikeDana2 |

A great day on the beach with a LIRR package deal. For $22 you get a short 45-minute train ride to the beach, plenty of choices for lunch and a great day of swimming and sunning. !!!!

Clean, beautiful and serene

By mary c |

This boardwalk is devoid of storefronts and eateries, if you are looking for peace and quiet, then this beachfront is right for you.

It is not touristy or full of activities.

One of the best beaches anywhere

By jenseng18 |

Lived in Long Beach for 20 years and loved every minute of it even during hurricane Sandy. You have everything that you want in town, many choices for bars and restaurants

Perfect Stroll

By Scott C |

Just the perfect stroll. 2.2 miles of paradise by the sea. Watch the sunbathers or just admire the view and the buildings. There is always something unique going on at the Boardwalk!

Walk Down Memory Lane for the Wife

By David F |

Spent the first 8 years of her life on Long Beach. Enjoyed walking down the board walk and then down to the water.

Wide and long boardwalk

By czarejugueta |

Be it jogging, walking or biking, the boardwalk is the best place to do those things after a bite in five guys. Sunset is best viewed in one of the benches of LBNY's boardwalk. You may also enjoy your night out in one of the Irish pubs nearby.

DISUSTING

By Joseph C |

I'm born and raised in Long Beach and my advice is "go somewhere else" in the summer. I'll give you facts and not opinion. Long Beach has no movie theater, no bowling ally, no pool hall, and NOTHING special for kids and families. They have a skateboard park for kids which is built next to the sewer plant and smells so toxic it's amazing parents allow their kids there. Long Beach has no amusement park for kids. When it comes to the boardwalk there is no roller blading, no skateboarding, no campfires, no alcohol, no smoking, no electric bikes or transportation on the boardwalk permitted, and they even make you get off your bike and walk in during certain points. Parking is a NIGHTMARE and they are charging $20 to walk on the beach. Meanwhile they offer close to NOTHING as far as convenience. If you take the train in and get off at the Long Beach train station, you will be met by homeless people using heroine, crack and other drugs all along the train station. Once you are on the beach there is NOTHING. They have two or three places to get a burger for a five miles boardwalk. The people who run Long Beach are total idiots! This place is a gold mine and if I was in charge this place would be dripping with funds I would generate

Very bad experience.

By Juju |

The beach is dirty, you need to walk a lot from the parking until you get to the water. The sand is dirty and the water looks dirty. There are only a few places to eat. There are no bike rentals anymore. A good part of the buildings close to the board walk is under construction. Never again.

LONG BEACH ON THE SEA

By Lorraine G |

Beautiful!!! Enjoyable!!! Nice family place!!! Very condusive to a stroll on or next to the ocean. I had a great time.

Clean beach, close to NYC

By AJ |

Long Beach is a pretty cool beach and much closer ride to and from NYC than Fire Island, Robert Moses, Jones Beach or the Hamptons. Fire Island is my favorite beach spot in NY to visit, but it's a long trek out east either driving or on the LIRR and then needing to grab the ferries.

The LB city council recently axed an idea to serve alcohol directly on the beach, a move that may or not be good, depending on your point of view. Being able to enjoy a nice cold margarita outside would sure be nice, though there are plenty of bars nearby. Nevertheless there are too many cops around the area, as this is seldom a routy beach (think Jersey shore). Most are friendly, but the excessive presence is not needed.

You'll usually find a good mix of families, young and old people. The beach itself is clean and very nice, unlike NYC beaches, although you won't find the Cyclone roller coaster here. Great views of the ocean hitting the rocks and beautiful summer sunsets here.

Parking is sometimes an issue so the best bet is probably taking the LIRR, esp. if you're coming from NYC, which is only about 45 minutes to an hour.

There's a Starbucks, several bars/restaurants and Ralph's Ices very close by. Also a surf shop that has overpriced bathing suits, sunglasses and flip flops.

Overall the most recommended beach option if you're visiting NYC.

Whether it's the boardwalk or beach, this is a great destination.

By robodocny |

I live about 10 miles away and we bike there whenever possible. Riding in the bile lane on the boardwalk, paralleling the ocean, is beautiful.

Beautiful Beach

By IrvW |

This is a beautiful beach. It is always clean and safe. They are still in the process of rebuliding the boardwalk. A small section is now opened.

Quick Escape

By Jeremy T |

Long Beach is a relatively short ride from the center of NYC. The extensive boardwalk along the deep beach feels like you have gone away. Parking is easily found on the streets. Great for a day's excursion.

Great weekend at the beach

By Georgette B |

Weekend at the beach

It was about an hour drive from the LES in manhattan. Its 15$ to attend the beach. Super clean and not too many ppl. Tons of shops in the area and close parking

Beachtown NY

By Josh G |

Long beach is definitely the place to go for a day of relaxation on the ocean without a long trek from Queens or Brooklyn. $12 fee to access the beach during peak season is now waived (after Labor Day). Great area to rent a bike and ride around town or along the boardwalk. Very clean community and very clean beach. No shortage of bars and restaurants.

Long Beach is amazing!

By Reviewer A |

A favorite of mine for many years, I grew up coming to this beach and it was a fantastic return. The views, boardwalk and community are spectacular!

Bicycle Riding, Drinks, and Food

By Greg B |

Long Beach is a great little beach town with several good restaurants and bars. There's enough variety so if you're over 30 (or 50) you can enjoy great cocktails and food. My girlfriend and I are both gluten-free and there's still plenty of choices.
One thing we like about the boardwalk in particular is that we can ride our bikes on it and there's even a 'lane' just for biking.

Excellent clean sandy beach with free parking nearby

By Matas V |

A true sandy beach, that does not go staply into the ocean which makes it good for kids to play, water is like 'tea', Beach is clean, pleanty of parking nearby. I couldn't find any dressing cabins, nor toilets, but I wasn't looking so I am sure something is around.

beautiful

By asmd |

beautiful clean private beach. social distancing is observed, clean cool waters. I loved it. Not much on the boardwalk

Beautiful & relaxing

Enjoy a great place to rest ! Beautiful beach & nice houses. Not to be missed. Hope to come again soon...

Still rebuilding after Sandy …

By WindsurfingGuy |

I bought a $22 Roundtrip getaway package (on LIRR from Penn, including beach ticket) and went there on July 6, 2013.
The ride was one easy hour. I walked to the beach (less than 10 min) and entered on Edwards Blvd.
Only fishermen and joggers were at the early hours. (I was there from 8 AM to 6:30 PM).
Beach was open, you can walk in without a beach ticket, but at about 9 AM beach uniformed employees started walking around and asking for the ticket.
Big crowd, starting about 11 AM until about 6 PM.

Concrete Boardwalk is being rebuilt. There are temporary restrooms. No water fountains, no foot wash, no showers.
Rumors are that the water will be available by the end of July, 2013

A lot of trashcans, though some people (either too lazy, or lacking any sense of responsibility) left trash behind at the end of the day. Unbelievable. The City should employ cops and fine such individuals for littering. There were cops riding on beach vehicles, but they did not chase trashers.

Each beach from jetty to jetty has its own name. The beach (sand part) is quite narrow, may be 120 - 180 feet.
The lifeguards use green and red flags to mark swimming areas. About 100 feet of a shoreline is swimmable at each beach in the middle between jetties, that is 1/3 of the shoreline. Other 2/3 of the shoreline is not swimmable. So, it got crowded in the water by 11 AM. Water was nice: clean and refreshing. It was shallow (knee to waist) in the morning, getting deeper after high tide at about 3 PM.

There is a lot of volleyball courts available (only poles, you need to bring your own net and ball).
The East End Volleyball had games going on there. Nice players, nice games to watch.

Long Beach is the US Capital of the beach-tennis (or as they call it now all-volley-tennis).
I was looking for beach-tennis courts to try a game, but could not find the courts or players. It is supposed to be between National Blvd. & Edwards Blvd.
I would guess that It is played on the same volleyball courts. Someone with a knowledge, hopefully, will clarify this.

There is going to be 2013 Long Beach NY Open [Cup] on 8/15 – 8/18/2013. This might be a good reason to go again.

A Great Place! My Favourite Beach Town on Long Island

By colonial |

Long beach is so much f un. It is unpretentious and has lots of great Italian restaurants. It is not far from the parking lot like Jones and Robert Moses/Fire Island and it is unpretentious. I like the crowd who comes to long beach. I cannot stand waiting so long to get to Jones beach it simply is NOT worth it. And there are no restaurants nearby. The Hamptons and Montauk are filled with the annoying and tacky nouveau riche. Little Long Beach has nice people and is a fun place to go in summer and it is closer to the city without the horrendous traffic encountered on the North Shore. A great place!

Nice Beach

By The Five Road Trippers 🚙🎡🎢🧳 |

Long Beach is an ocean beach with a lengthy boardwalk. Very scenic and a nice walk along the boardwalk. Parking can be quite difficult especially in the summer.

The Best beach!!

By Carey J |

This is my favorite beach on Long Island!!! It has a great boardwalk and now they added stores on it. The beach itself is great and gets very crowed!! It does cost a lot if you are for a day 15$ now in 2016. The LIRR offers deals if you take the train. So worth it in my opinion

Lovely day trip from NYC

By IsaEliCl |

It´s only one hour from Penn Station by LIRR train, and you are able to enjoy this loooong beach, very quiet in Spring... refreshing and worth to trip!
The water was cold!!

So peaceful!

By Lisa H |

The boardwalk is such a peaceful place, at any time of the day !
Walking, jogging, roller blading or bike riding, everybody stays in their lanes, and enjoys the exercise!

Great Board Walk

By PM G |

2 1/4 miles of boardwalk along a spotless beach. What's not to love. Walk, run, cycle; you can do it all. Beach is broken up into sections for surfers and swimmers so it's a win-win. Parking could be tough so get there early!

Average beach town for visitors

By Michael G |

If you live here, you probably love it but for a short stopover, there is virtually nothing to do here. The boardwalk is nice but instead of being laced with food places, bars, games and shops like most boardwalks, apartment buildings are lined along the boardwalk. The town itself doesn't have that much to do either.

If you on the other hand are looking for a quiet beach town and don't like the nightlife, it might be worth a visit.

Family fun, best beaches and boating! The kids enjoyed this trip, they had so much fun. The people are really nice 💗

The beach is great!!!

By bcentrone |

The boardwalk and the beach at Long Beach are great..amazingly clean, soft sand, the water and the waves were great..

Walk the boardwalk, enjoy the gorgeous beach

By marie s |

We love this beach. We enjoy the boardwalk every Spring and Fall. It is a very busy place in the warm summer months and parking is always a problem. We tend to stay away during the hot summer months because the crowds are just too much. But, in the Spring and Fall it is beyond beautiful. There are many choices of restaurants, volleyball games on the beach, wedding photographers snapping pictures or, just people having fun. A great place to have fun!

Clean, family friendly beach

By Eve212015 |

Admission for adults is $15. Children under 12 are free of charge. Parking is free around the beach. Clean beach, no alcohol, no smoking. Security walk around to enforce the no alcohol, non smoking rule. Public transportation is by LIRR from Penn Station in Manhattan. Long boardwalk perfect for biking and walking. Few restaurants so it’s a good idea to bring a sandwich or something to eat.

Friday night

Great!! Get away relaxing place
Nice restaurants around
Coolest beech to play with shells
Birds sand waves
Stars gazing etc.

For the rest of my life

By Therese S |

Long Beach, New York is so fabulous I chose to live here! After residing and working in Manhattan, I realized Long Beach was close enough to have the best of both worlds. It was wonderful close-knit community prior to Hurricane Sandy and is coming back to be an even greater asset to one's mental well-being. What could be better than feeling like you are on vacation on a daily basis just by smelling the fresh ocean breezes let alone all the activities you can partake in if interested all summer long. Long Beach is as beautiful in the winter too especially when the crowds leave. I am grateful every day.

Long Beach New York

By Fire_Rescue50 |

Although I am a former resident of Long Beach, Yes the sand is very warm and inviting and indeed clean, however stay away from the rear streets of Walbaums, This area is where you will be mugged by gangsters, I lived here. Don't venutre away from Park avenue and your ok. With all due respect. The baordwalk at National Blvd is where you can walk from the boardwalk right into a restuarant. Park Avenue is where you can find a host of eateries and starbucks.

Worth a visit

By fjrolph |

A fabulous wooden walkway... running track... cycle track. However, if on a quick visit during part of your day, you can't just quickly walk on the sands or dip your toe in the ocean without paying what would be an okay fee for the whole day (if you weren't paying for several family members), but for a 10/15 minute break into part of your day, it's not worth it!

GREAT BEACH

By Jeanna R |

Will return here for sure. Huge beach, lots of room, beautiful, great boardwalk (not a lot of restaurants or stores). Great little town too. We had the best day exploring!

A Little Slice of the East Coast!

By gnaturecenter |

There ia a fee for the Beach and if you are coming from the West, there is a $2.00 fee at the Atlantic Beach Bridge, Parking is a bit easier during the, during the week, but weekends, Be Early!
Plelenty of Restaurants and generally a nice atmosphere.
I've eaten at several restaurants here, too! Good selection.

You got to come down & visit!

By J00Jee |

Fantastic beautiful boardwalk rebuilt from Hurricane Sandy. Great walking town! Also enjoyed cooling off in the Long Beach Public Library and browsing through the books and magazines. On the way, stopped by busy Starbucks for a mocha frappacino. Also enjoyed browsing at the farmer's market by City Hall. Loved the homemade pickles!

beach time!!!

By her g |

its summer time and you wanto to go to the beach. if you are in New York city area this is a good option. 30 minutes from Manhattan you have to pay a couple of tolls and the manhattan bridge (us13); the parking is for free but you have to pay 12 bucks for each one in your partie

great beach one day get away

By Tanya L |

In NYC and trying to escape the heat.Well head on a LIRR train straight to Long Beach. In less than 50 mins you can get of the train and walk for 10 ins and hit a nice beach. It does get crowded so getting there early is your best option. You can hire an umbrella and chairs which saves the hard work of carrying them over.

I suggest buying drinks and food before getting on the beach too. Would be great if they could upgrade the bathrooms and add some change rooms.

This should really be Long island

By Bernardo F |

Long beach is its own city on long island. It has a great boardwalk, but it can be busy, especially in the summers. Lots of fun beach activities.

at sunny day at the beach....

so I thought. I was lovely... the boardwalk was really beautiful and u almost thought you were somewhere in the south. Just enjoy the sun and relax at the beach, even when thy charge for it.

Long Beach

By Lolly’s Look |

Long Beach on Long Island is a beautiful site sand oceanfront Beach. The boardwalk is a fun spot to bike, walk and stroll the area. There are restaurants, shops and bars nearby to make it the perfect “getaway” at home.

By Mark R |

Do you enjoy taking long walks alongside the ocean. The long beach boardwalk affords walking, biking or simply plenty of benches to just sit and relax. Only downside is parking, plan to walk a few blocks but not a bad walk. Once a summer a craft fair takes over the boardwalk so checkout the dates.

Love It Off Season

By Bob R |

So enjoy strolling on off peak times of off season. Very clean and very invigorating. Why not stop down and do the same.

best place on earth. super kool. i totally recommend to absolutely everyone. the beach is better than every other beach in the united states of america.

Love walking the boards in long Beach

By marie s |

There is nothing better on a sunny day than taking a stroll on the boards of Long Beach. In the summer it is crazy busy here and hard to find a parking space. In the Spring, Fall or Winter it is easier to park.
You will see people strolling, jogging or bike riding. It is 2.2 miles from beginning to end. The views are spectacular. There could be a volley ball game or two going on or a wedding or two being photographed. There are plenty of benches to sit and rest on. One of my favorite places to go.

great boards with new comfort and food options

By janet s |

the boardwalk is clean, wide and safe day and night. the bathrooms amazingly clean even after a long summer weekend day. and the food options are now great. It would be better if they would designate the bike lane since out of towners don't know the "rules".

Great place to hang out in the summer

By friendofmitzi |

We came here because my husband grew up in Long Beach and wanted to see the new boardwalk. It was great to stroll along and do some people watching. It costs to go to the beach, but you can walk, bike, or sit on one of the many benches and enjoy the beach for free. It gets to thumbs up from me.

Just what we needed

By Ellis Nas |

Stay at Sandy Beach House on W Olive Street - the perfect location and it has everything you need. The place is kept immaculate and extremely clean. It nice to have a little peace of mind these days. The host is the homeowner - there when you need for anything from house questions to where to go and what to do. Plenty of towels, linens, toiletries and more. If you want to return- make sure you complete the checkout list with discounts on future stays. You can walk everywhere and if you need to get work done too - there is a separate workspace options with reliable wifi throughout. The listing doesn't do it justice because there you just have to experience it.

Great surpise!

By Edward D. |

The “City by the Sea” was sold by the Rockaway Indians to the English colonists in 1643. Situated in Nassau County, over the border from NYC, this beach town is really beautiful.
In the movie “The Godfather”, the Corleones supposedly owned a compound in Long Beach.
If you want to come here during the summer and you’re not a resident, you need to purchase a pass: they have season passes ($100) or $15 for the day.
There are a number of restaurants and bars located in the area & there’s also a beautiful hotel located on the boardwalk.
Most non-New Yorkers probably won’t know about this place, but they should. The beach and the boardwalk are beautiful in the summer and the shoulder seasons. I really like it!

By Matthew R |

Long beach is great just parking is allways a mess. Plan for a great day I'm the sum on new boardwalk. Plenty of places to eat and drink also.

Americas best place- PERIOD! The beach, the boardwalk, the people... and yes- of cousre: the dogs!

By rogerlongbeach |

Enjoy- relax - just have fun- and a great place to live as well... Our beach is the best - surfing - fishing- sports-
tons of great restaurants and bars...

Gorgeous beach!

By Travelcooking |

What an amazing place! The day was perfect that allowed us to go for a stroll in the company of runners, bicycles and scooter ridders, with a very nice vibe. The beach is very pretty filled with music, volleyball players and even surfers. We sat on a bench to enjoy the sun and the birds flighting and it is difficult to describe it because the whole atmosphere was perfect. We enjoyed ourselves so much that beside the beaches in California it became a favorite spot for relaxation and fun. Definitely recommended.

Nice Place to Visit

By The Five Road Trippers 🚙🎡🎢🧳 |

Long Beach has a different vibe set apart from the rest of Long Island. The beach is nice and clean. The boardwalk is long and doesn't get too much foot traffic. Overall, a very relaxing place to visit.

No other place like it!!

I’ve lived all over the place and Long Beach is by far the best !! People are great. Everything you need is here. No need to look far for anything !! I live my Long Beach NY !! It’s a great lil city to visit and a wonderful place to live !!

Stevens Pasta on Park Ave

By Madaleine W |

Stevens Pasta is back in Long Beach. It’s been many years since the original closed due to the “BIG FIRE”. We finally stopped in tonight to have dinner, and the food is just awesome.
The Fettuccini Bolognese is back, the North Atlantic Salmon and a great Caesar Salad. It seems like the old menu is back with a modern twist and it works. Stop by and check the place out,the bar is a really nice place to wait for a table and check out the passers by. Best time is early in the evening, the place really rocks later and can be a bit loud, so if you are not comfortable with noise do go early. Enjoy !

Quaint relaxing space without the tourist hustle and bustle

By Carson |

When you arrive here (we came towards the end of winter) you will find a lack of tacky shops and businesses on the boardwalk. They are all on the main avenue that runs parallel to boardwalk about four blocks away. And there is an abundance of restaurants and cafes up there.

As far as the boardwalk is clean, in great shape, and a wonderful place for joggers and walkers. They have just added new ramps to beach from boardwalk as well as dunes and beach grass to prevent beach erosion and any surges of the ocean that may bury the town.

There are public restrooms on the boardwalk, one we saw had showers outside as well. There are two or three gigantic open lots adjacent to the boardwalk in the main section where the events take place which I am told have been vacant and unused for years.

Inside tip - if you arrive in the summer when the beach has lifeguards on duty, be prepared to dish out a whopping $12 per person to walk onto the beach and use it. That price is not for me, I rather go to Jone Beach or Sunken Meadow and pay a single vehicle fee instead of getting taken advantage of - by the way it's still free to walk, jog and sit on the Boardwalk. Parking may be a challenge when it's busy because it was not abundant when we arrived in the winter.

Happy trails!

Very nice day at the beach

By TexasTravelernow |

Nice clean white sand beaches with a boardwalk stretching miles with shops and entertainment at night . Parking is near by and you can enter the beach from many locations . There is a charge to go on the beach . But the boardwalk is free .

Heaven on Earth

By patrick s |

Long Beach is a great place to live. The scenery, the water, the boardwalk and the restaurants are great. Long walks on the boardwalk with the sky and water surrounding you are the perfect prescription to loosen up and relax from the tensions of the day.

Great beach

By Paddy8808 |

One of the nicer beaches in NY. Always clean and safe, with plenty of restaurants and bars in the area.

Put your ear phones on and enjoy the boardwalk

By Random Travelz |

I used to live in Long Beach (near Beech and Monroe st.s) about 2 blocks from the boardwalk. This is an good place to visit in spring/late-summer/fall. Summer is very crowded. There are good restaurants by park avenue and near the railroad station. South of park avenue, the houses are good. There are a few things to do here: walks in the night on the boardwalk, on the beach(kinda not legal), and walks on the street. There is a big ultra conservative jews community that lives in parts of long beach. That makes the place diverse and interesting. In summer/fall there are many festivals and fairs. July 4th fire-show is just amazing (very crowded though). Best way to explore the area is to go there by car, park in the inner streets and then walk and explore. the people are nice but new yorkers in attitude. There is a big young professionals and surfer community that lives here; especially by the condo buildings by the boardwalk. Vacation rentals are reasonable; compared to Hamptons. Surf and water not great; but the environment and experience is highly recommended.

Best scenic view ever

i like searching for new spots to go fishing , i made my way into long beach never been there before , made a wrong turn ended up on the board walk of long beach, it was totally amazed to see , miles and miles of ocean and beach's and as far as the eye can see and the same for the board walk miles of it amazing totally amazing and so relaxing they have rest bench's all over the board walk to relax and just breath in the ocean air and absorb the view around you,, . i think it would be a worth while visit there.

Nice Beach

By Eli B |

Growing up in Queens, we all know of the beaches located 30 minutes away in Nassau and Suffolk county. Long Beach is a beautiful beach with soft sand and a nice boardwalk (without many attractions). The bad thing about the beach is that if you arent a Long Beach resident, you must pay $15 per person to even get on the beach. My girlfriend and I had heard that if you get there before 9 am, you can avoid the fee to use the beach. Unfortunately we tried this tactic and got there at 8:30 am, once the clock hit 9, a group of "Special Officers" as they are called came around asking everyone for tickets and we got thrown off the beach. Is it worth $15? That is for you to decide

Love this place

By Shiko O |

Clean, comfortable, good food & drink and cool people! Will come back soon!!!!
Water was great. It's super easy to get to from the NYC (LIRR) and I personally prefer paying to get onto a beach if it's nicer, safe, and clean. There were also tons of beach volleyball nets set up for anyone to use.

Visit after Visit

By jannytravels |

After Hurricane Sandy, the beach, boardwalk and surrounding areas have been revitalized.

Convenience: 5-minute walk from the train station. Literally 5 minutes. I've been going to Long Beach for more than 15 years and less than an hour on the Long Island Rail Road from Manhattan, Long Beach is one of my go-to city beaches. On the ride out, you can vaguely see the Manhattan skyline as you get about 1 or 2 stops from Long Beach.

Beach: Clean, safe white sand. Easy to get a spot before noon. The ocean is always super cold even on 90-degree days but hey, it's the Atlantic and we're in New York. No reason to complain about that.

Food: I was pleasantly surprised on a recent trip to find food trucks on the beach and adjacent to the boardwalk. There are fast food chains like Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Burger King and more just across the street from the Long Island Rail Road. There's a Walbaum's supermarket as well.

Restrooms: New restrooms have been spruced up and it's so convenient after you've been lying on the beach and drinking water all day long to not have to look for a restaurant for some relief.

Close to NYC

By fiamma11 |

This area is small, however, it is a nice beach and so close to New York City, so I consider it a bit of a gem. Location. Location. Location.

Great escape from city grind - just a train ride away!

By iScout4U |

Take a train ride to Long Beach and enjoy the blue waters glistening with silver sun reflections. Great place to hang out for 3-4 hours and there are decent restaurants to grab good beach grub and share a few brews with newfound friends.

Americans know how to take the fun out of beaches.

By ANONFema1e |

You have to pay to go on the beach. water is dirty. Nowhere to get changed, even though you pay $ 15 to get on the beach. Lifeguards tell you off, swim between the flags, don't swim out too far. Harassed by homeless people at the train station. Come to Australia if you want a real beach!

Much better than the Hamptons

By Halg136 |

Long Beach is a great place to live for sun, surf and fresh air. Much better than the Hamptons since it takes one-third of the time (less than an hour by car or train) to get there from NYC and there are no pretensions to it. Prices are sane - not insane and the people are real with beautiful beach & boardwalk. What more could you want?

No more Elephants

By Iratdog |

I lived within walking distance of Long Beach as a kid. I remember the Amusement Park on the Boardwalk. The Knish Stand among the little boardwalk concession zone. Dirty Dick’s at the beach at the end of Long Beach Road. Chauncey’s on the beach down the West End.

I lived here for the 80’s. Still have family and friends here.

Today’s Long Beach is really thriving. The boardwalk is beautiful, the restaurant scene is excellent. So many features.
I understand why people want to live here.

Beautiful Sandy Beach and Relaxing Day out

By Terry M |

We woke to a warm sunny day on our holiday in New York and decided to go to the seaside.
Taking the subway from Tribeca to Pennsylvania Train Station then 55 minutes to Long Beach was a pleasant experience the carriages are clean and spacious and the changing landscapes from skyscrapers to suburban two-story buildings to bungalows to factories to fields then over the bridge onto the island.
When we came out of the Station we went to the left and found a small shopping mall with a Subway Sandwich Bar, excellent food and drink to take down to the beach.
We went in early June so the beach was quite and the boardwalk was work in progress but a great relaxing day out.

Awesome Boardwalk with Traffic Lanes.

By Michael T |

The Long Beach Board walk is very long wonderful experience. It has dedicated lanes for walking, biking, roller blading and more. There are plenty of benches, the one downside is there is no shade. No escape from the sun. There are ice cream and drink vendors every so often. A nice relief to the sun. The beach is neat and clean and everyone seems to have fun.

Long Beach, NY is Charming Beach Community, Warm and Embracing

By Katrina Neylon |

Long Beach is by far one of my favorite places in the world, and I have traveled the world. It is a charming beach community which is indeed a warm and embracing one to those in it, those visiting, and for those staying a few months to enjoy the summer months of beach front. The town is on the same spit of sand South of Long Island where Rockaway and Atlantic Beaches are as well as Jones Beach and Fire Island. It is 30 miles outside NYC and is accessible via Long Island Rail Road. It is a walking town. You can get anything you need by walking, or renting (or buying) a bicycle and using it to get around. Parking is a premium. During the summer, it is best to park, and then leave your car for the entire weekend or else you might end up parking a long way away from where you are. The people of Long Beach are wonderful. They are decent New Yorkers who have been through the worst of times and make the best of times from those bad times. I saw a recent bicycle race taking place from California to New York and only realized that day it was a two-street ride to Shine's Pub. The streets are named after states, and these two streets run parallel to one another! It was a riot. Raised funds for an organization who needed it. The restaurants are numerous and offer a great variety of foods. A lot of them offer delivery, or as stated earlier, it is nice to walk to dinner and walk back. The streets are busy and filled with people, all having fun, talking, and enjoying the outdoors. If someone has something bad befall them, the community takes it on and dives in head first. Everyone comes together and everyone helps. Now, to the best part: the beach! Miles of white sand, clean and pristine alongside a boardwalk that is 2.5 miles long on which you can ride bicycles (and rent them there) or just plain walk. Benches that have been dedicated to people and loved ones are all placed where sitting and enjoying the view is an envied pastime and enjoyed by all. You can't go wrong getting off the train after a day's work in the city and smelling the ocean air and taking in the wonderful breeze that comes with being close to this large body of water and waves. Try Long Beach. It is so much better than so many other places and it is close to the city named twice because it is so nice (New York, NY!).

One of my favourite places

By Ricky H |

Completely redone since Hurricane Sandy. Now one can rent bikes on the boardwalk instead of having to bundle one's bike into the car. Beautiful place to go for a walk summer or winter.

Best Beaches in US

One of the finest and cleanest Beaches in US. Long Beach is still very much undervalued Towns. Easy transport via Train and Buses. Summertime is very busy in the city and on the beach. Many activities.
Highly recommended for the beach lovers.

Great beach, excellent for a 6 mile walk in the sun.

By Catharina W |

You don't think you are in New York! Go for a 6 mile walk on white sand, clean and well guarded by life guards.
The best Japanese restaurant I have been to is Nagahama in Long Beach.

Boardwalk stroll

By Danmac10 |

Beautiful gem. I never knew this place existed. Researched it online and what a find.
Easy access to the train to New York City, 4 blocks away, which goes to Penn Station. $9 each way on off peak hours.
The area is laden with restaurants, although some close during off season.

Slipping - Increase Enforcement…

By Nomad |

…of the rules that you clearly post on the boardwalk such as “no dogs” or “no skateboarding”. It is clear that these aspects are not being enforced as they take place in full view of law enforcement. The lack of enforcement on things like that create a permissive environment that results in vagrants (on the increase), flash mobs of teens (good job in shutting these down thus far), etc. Allowed “protests” a few years ago resulted in a lot of people moving out. The train station lacks proper enforcement - vagrants sleep inside and it is a nasty and menacing area.

Rebuilt after hurricane Sandy

By GD542013 |

Visited earlier this week· At first impressed by the beautiful newly built boardwalk - lovely woodwork, chrome railings etc but nothing else rebuilt yet· No restaurants, shops etc· Just a few fast food vans here & there· Although disappointed I understood they are recovering from a terrible natural disaster· However I wasn't so understanding when we had to pay $12 each to get into the beach at 3pm and even less understanding when asked to pay $20 each for a sunbed! The authorities are trying to raise much needed money for repairs but I just felt robbed as there was so little on either the boardwalk or beach· No bicycle hire places yet either so we saw very little of the place· My advice is wait and go next year·

Sewer on beach

Inviting Beachside Community with Clean Beaches, Boardwalk and a Beach Day

By JeannetteC308 |

I've been to Long Beach a few times including when the hurricane destroyed the community. Its a very comforting inviting clean community. Even though it was my first time on the beach, I've enjoyed its restaurants, multicultural environment and it clean beaches and surf. I was lucky to find free parking on a beautiful Sunday. Polite boardwalk police who assist its community to its boardwalk eating establishments and convenient public bathrooms, showers, changing rooms under the boardwalk access from the beach. Beach access is $15 this year. For those who do not drive, access to Long Island Rail Road is walking distance to the beach. Ice cream is sold on the beach which makes it convenient. Quite an enjoyable people watching and surf. What else can we ask for so close to New York City. I will return in the fall.

Beach is ok, but boardwalk and area aren't very nice

By santaluvsme |

I've never been to a boardwalk that didn't have shops and restaurants. This has a few, but not much. Maybe in summer it has a different vibe. There are vacant lots so hopefully it's getting a makeover.

Long drive from city

By SM A |

We reached at the long beach after 20 kilo drive from queens , just after sunset. It was 31st august, blue moon night. The sand was white but water was dark.It was very hard to leave the place .It is my hobby to collect some shell ,when I visit any sea beach. In moonlight I have collected about 10 in long beach. During return after one hour stay, when we passing through the jungle, some deer were crossing the road and we stopped for few seconds .

Amazing beach and boardwalk

There are many things to do along the boardwalk now with the trapeze ,the escape room ,the concession stands, bike riding ,renting a bike Or just sitting on the benches taking in the peacefulness of the waves.

Home

By Darren P |

Where I live and also where I work. Not just "a beach town," as it has a lot of the things a small city -- it's one of two cities on Long Island -- would have.

Festivals, restaurants and bars, ice skating rink, movie theater, bike-share program, farmer's market when the weather is nice...

Biggest drawback is the (lack of) parking. The cost of living is also a bit rough, although it is not one of Long Island's most expensive towns. Other than that, an absolute pleasure to live here.

Boardwalk

By Lolly’s Look |

We took our bikes for a ride on the boardwalk around sunset. The oceanfront boardwalk is a nice spot for biking or walking. There’s restaurants along the way to stop.

Beautiful beach!

By kel4377 |

Absolutely beautiful beach! Clear, clean water, and very clean beach. $12 per person to enter beach, my daughter who is 11 was free. They have umbrella rentals for $13 and chair rentals for $10 for the entire day. Boardwalk very nice and open to walk, bike, run. Bathroom facilities available. Small cafe on the beach. Parking was quite difficult. We ended up parking in a lot near the beach and when we left we were blocked in by other cars. According to the beach police and a tow truck driver, this occurs weekly. People behind us never came out, luckily after over an hour of waiting the people next to us and next to them pulled around the barrier we were parked behind and were able to get out, so then I was able to do the same. WATCH WHERE YOU PARK because this quickly ruined the day! Will definitely return to the beach again, but will park on the streets instead!

The "new" Long Beach!

By Frank C |

After the devastation of SuperStormSandy, one would have thought that a rebound would not be possible. Not so. The famed Long Beach Boardwalk is as vibrant as ever. Walking, biking, or just "benching" and watching the surfers, Long Beach is a water lover's haven. Some new fast food places have opened and for fine dining, there's the Allegria Hotel.

I find it unconscionable to charge individuals money to enter a beach.

By TennisStar602 |

The beach at Long Beach is nice, but I find it absolutely disgusting to charge people money to enter a beach. Moreover, I find it even more revolting that it costs a skyrocketing fifteen dollars ($15.00) to enter this beach. The beach fee is charged between 9 AM and 6 PM, and it is forbidden to swim without the lifeguards present. I felt as though I was dealing dictators due to all of these rules which I believed to be assinine. I thought that the lifeguards and the cashiers with whom I dealt were rude and annoying. I have no problem, and I would much prefer, to swim at my own risk. The boardwalk is nice, but I would not return to this beach.

Horrible!

Do not come here! Dirty ,bathrooms every 5 blocks, no tissue in all the bathrooms! Dirty sand and no parking!!! FOR $15 ENTRANCE FEE?! you tell me...

Good beach easily accessible from NYC

By Cynthia M |

Favorite beach to get away from NYC on nice summer weekends. A bit pricey at $12 per person, but its a great beach and worth it for a day trip! Not as crowded as Jones Beach and easy to get to from the city through the LIRR.

Board Walk of Long Beach, Long Island

By Lee C |

The board walk is clean and pretty. You can rent a bike or take a walk or jog. It seems to be very safe without too commercialized. The beach below the boardwalks is with white sands and looks well kept.

A bit of peach 50mins from Manhattan

By Gracie13rocks |

So its just a short train ride from Manhattan, we got on a train from Penn central and 45-50mins later (no changes) were were in Long Beach.
Its a lovely place!! So so quiet compared to Manhattan, its almost like a British seaside town!!
The Boardwalk is beautiful and the sandy Beach is amazing, I can imagine in the summer it would be packed though!
We stayed in the Allegria right on the boardwalk, great hotel, nice bar, friendly staff and good amenities.
If you want to explore around NYC and fancy a little trek out for a day or two then definitely go - be warned though there isnt much to do there its just nice for the peace, views and a relax!

Lovely beach and surrounding area

By RollingStoneRolling |

I really like this beach: it is clean, has an expansive boardwalk, convenient parking, and is usually bustling with some event or activity going on. The minor point is the steep entrance fee that is per person and without consideration of seniors, but what can you do? Long Island is known for gouging its residents and it's the price we pay for convenience and to maintain a subtle "crowd control" by pricing people out, which isn't nice or fair, but it's true.

Beautiful!

By romey79 |

I come here all thru the summer. This beach is a great Escape from the hustle n bustle of the city. Its approximately 50 mins from penn station. Theres a broadwalk or if you like more quiet reserve sections hop on the west end bus or the east end bus. Anyway theres lots of little restaurants and bars to chill and have drinks. This beach is beautiful and breath taking. You will definitely enjoy....

Very Clean Beach

By RaimyWashington |

We only had Rockaway beach for refference and Long Beach is very much cleaner. The water and the sand and the restrooms. $15 entry to the beach, no cash accepted, can purchase a pass online or with a train ticket. They'll give you a wristband to come in and out of the beach area. Can rent chairs and umbrellas earlier in the day. Lifeguards leave by 6. Less birds than rockaway. No vendors because people have to pay to get in. Lots of space on the sand because it stretches back far and flat. Volleyball nets available. The waves feel more constant because the shore has a harder cut off than rockaway. The Smaller swimming zones than Rockaway, but lifeguards are a lot more active and attentive. Super close to stop and shop and coffee shops and food places. Didn't get to explore the boardwalk but would love to come back.

Nice Beach Town

By Mitch1112 |

Such a nice beach. After Memorial Say you’ll need to buy a pass on the weekend. When summer hits it’s every day. The sand is light and the beach is wide. Waves are good enough to surf , if that’s your thing.
The boardwalk is a great place to walk, run, ride a bike, and grab a snack or smoothie.
The town is nice to walk around as there are many different types of homes. Not many cookie cutters.
Some good places to eat and drink including in the Long Beach Hotel.

So close to NYC you won't believe it

By bztvls |

20 minutes from JFK and 60 minutes from Manhattan lies this Oasis in the city by the sea, Long Beach. A barrier island with wide open beaches awaits you. Great boardwalk, 2.2 miles long. Lots of restaurants and casual dining spots. Just beautiful

Transformed!

By cgwruns |

I grew up on Long Island and Long Beach was a close alternative to Jones Beach. On a recent trip I was stunned to see the transformation - new boardwalk, clean and large beach, hopping restaurants with outdoor seating, weeknight meal and drink specials, upgraded shops, etc. I went mid week and there was ample FREE parking. If felt like a real beach vacation spot! Be prepared to spend $15 per person to access the beach -- but you can enjoy easy access to the town as well.

the good, the bad, & the ugly - take 2

By milton260 |

After a second summer enjoying the new boardwalk, here is an update;

GOOD -
* Nice resort area feel
* Wide, smooth well-maintained bamboo boardwalk.
* with separate bike-lane
* plenty of benches
* Scheduled free entertainment
* Short term bike rental (bike-share) available from multiple areas of the boardwalk & in other locations throughout the city
* Additional rest rooms added along the boardwalk

BAD -
* No food / arcades on boardwalk except for a few pushcart vendors

UGLY -
* parking is impossible on peak days especially on summer Sundays & boardwalk and beach does get crowded.

Yo, this is the best place on Long Island to run

Yo, this is the best place on Long Island to run, swim, and just people-watch. Plenty of places to eat in the area for a day trip. If you live here it is paradise.

Very beach but not perfect

By TheRattla |

I have never in my life seen so many rules. There are saign saying NO to frickn everything. It is clean and it keeps the riff raff away.
HOneslty this beach is better than the hamptons.
decent surf too. Not the most consistent surf, but when its nice, its a real fun spot.
Suprisingly friendly... like really friendly surfers.
There is always some vehicle playing around.
Everyone wants to drive on the beach i swear they just move sand from one end to the other to charge the taxpayers more money

Not horrible by any means .

By Mobile734370 |

Clean hotel , staff friendly . I can’t do stairs elevator only fit 3 people with a bag each. I didn’t mention I was handicapped. We were at a wedding . The bride and groom family were happy. Other than rooms being small. Really small a little cold it was fine. I think the price could have been cheaper. Hall was out of Long Beach so we could have stayed some place else nice to stay where your friends are. They also had buns and coffee in the morning just enough .

A Beautiful Beach! Here are the Pluses & Minuses you should know before you go...

By Kishauna D |

Overall it was a beautiful beach and I'd go back again. Here are the pluses:
+ Only a 45-57 minute trip from Manhattan to Long Beach on the LIRR
+ The LIRR lets you off just a few blocks
+ There are a ton of places to eat/buy food in the area, as you're walking to the beach
+ The sand was very clean (powdery white) and there weren't nearly as many broken shells along the shoreline as there were at Far Rockaway
+ I felt comfortable enough to leave our belongings unattended while we swam (I'm not recommending it; just saying what I did)

Here are the minuses:
- Round-trip LIRR ticket is about $25 per person
- The beach entry fee is $12 per person
- The food trucks and vendors that sell on the boardwalk/beach are WAY overpriced (a regular sized bottle of water was $3; a small ice cream sandwich was $3.50)
- Toward the afternoon, there seemed to be an increase in seaweed in the water. We were literally covered in it: it was wrapped around our arms and legs, and it brushed up against us constantly. There would be no way to swim without it covering your face and getting tangled in your hair.
- There were three outdoor showers with ice cold water; no indoor showers so you couldn't really get clean
- The bathroom was very messy and smelly; needed way more frequent tending to (and the lines were very long)
- You can only enter the water between the two green flags, which the lifeguards move frequently. So if you think you can just get off your beach chair and race into the water, you're wrong! lol
- The beach rental people will literally walk right in front of where you're sitting, and plop down chairs and umbrellas, effectively blocking your view of the ocean. They don't care.

the coolest city by the sea

By mfreydin |

if you are looking to get away from the city, but also from the crowds that all go to the same getaways, come here. jones beach has no food, no amenities. long beach has a colossal food scene, beer scene.

great trip

By Flora |

The beach itself is super clean and well-kept, with soft sand and plenty of space to stretch out. The waves are great for surfing or just playing around, and there are lifeguards so it feels safe too.

One of the best parts? The boardwalk. It’s long, breezy, and perfect for walking, biking, or just people-watching. You’ll see joggers, dog walkers, rollerbladers — it’s like a little community in motion.

And when you get hungry, there are tons of food options close by. Grab a slice of pizza from Gino’s, some fresh tacos, or hit a local café for iced coffee and snacks. Everything’s super casual and beachy.

Ocean Bliss close to NYC

By Brake24 |

Arrived at 4:00 on a Thursday afternoon before July 4th. Hardly anyone on the beach. Very few people scattered about. Beautiful / peaceful and extremely clean. Maybe it was so quite because it was a weekday? No shells and the waves are very loud and rough, but the sand was pretty much spotless. Fun to watch the birds too. After eating dinner on Beech street , we went back to the beach to watch the sunset. A very nice experience if you like peace and quiet. Free to enter after 5PM. Free parking on the streets nearby as well.

Long Beach - day trip from nyc

By Jay “flower” child |

I took the LIRR here, took about an hour and was 22$ for round trip. This was great and was perfect for a much needed escape from the concrete jungle. Long Beach is what you would expect- 2 mike strip of beach with tons of families and kids. I got there at 9 am and was practically the only person on the beach... awesome. Some privacy and quiet! At about 1 pm it got crowded with teens blasting speakers but still enough space where nobody was ever on top of me. I really enjoyed the beach and experience!

So... why did I knock off one star?
- tons of shells preventing you from going in the water. Or if you do, your feet hurt after. My feet hurt as I’m writing this
- cash only everywhere on the boardwalk. Seriously? You can’t get four square? I only had a credit card with me in my beach bag which prevented me from buying water bottles. I had to walk about two blocks up to where the food trucks were (NOT on the boardwalk) and then they did have four square !

Great day. Definitely will be back !

A CRAP to AVOID!

By camallo |

To access by car you need to pay at a motorway-type toll booth, once you enter there are very few free parking spaces, the vast majority are "VAB permit only" and the local traffic policeman is very ready to fine you. The free beach is NON-EXISTENT, in practice you either pay for access to the baths or the sea and you can only see the beach from afar from a walkway! 1,000 times more welcoming than any Italian seaside resort, one piece of advice... DON'T GO THERE!

Lovely and lively beach town.

By TangoNY |

We have been coming to LB for over a decade. We stop by at Atlantic Beach Tennis Club first to play some pickle ball and then go to LB for some icecream, site seeing, pleasant drive and the beach. We like how lovely and also alive the LB is. Lots of small pubs, restaurants and shops. Especially on weekends when weather is nice, LB is bursting with life and energy.

Better than most in NYC

By scouseinthehouse |

We go here often in summer. Its $20 for an adult for train and beach access from NYC. Pricey, yes. But for the easy commute (train is 1 hour from Penn st 34th st and about 3 blocks from the beach when you get off). Theres a bank, rite aid, dunkin donuts, supermarket, liquor store etc outside the train stop so you can pick up goodies for the day. The beach itself is wide and pretty clean. No bottles and garbage washing ashore like at Coney Island. i let my son swim here but don't at most other city beaches. Lots of beach volleyball courts, it seems popular later on in the day. Mixed crowd but on a whole more 'civilized' than others. Nice (but not amazing) escape from the hustle and bustle for a day.

Beautifully rebuilt boardwalk

By Elliot S |

I live nearby and come here frequently at night and on weekends to take a nice walk. The boardwalk was totally destroyed by tropical storm Sandy and has since been rebuilt. It is better than ever, with restaurants located along its length, plenty of public restrooms and showers and, of course, a terrific beach. Free concerts are frequent occurrences during the summer. There are also volleyball tournaments, surfing competitions, fairs and festivals and a food truck court. It can sometimes be difficult to park, but it is worth it.

Beatiful and relaxing place

By Alexey S |

I had a free time at Sunday and it was here a very good sunny weather, so I decided to go to the Long Beach. I got to this place by LIRR. From station just 5 min by foot and you are there. Along beach line there is street where you can buy some clothes, suvenires, food and beverage. The access the beach is paid, the cost is $15. But it is very clean and nice, the sand is really white. Also you can rent umbrella and beach chair.

One of The Best Beaches in New York

Clean, good crowd, and close to other bars and restaurants too. The boardwalk gives you the opportunity to bike and get to other places walking without having to move your car.

Great Beach

By IrvW |

The beach and boardwalk are great. The sand is cleaned daily and the boardwalk is a perfect place to jog, walk, or ride your bike. The parking is on the street and usually available not too far from the beach. Yes, you have to pay to,get on the beach, but it is worth the money.

Nice place

By Spring35 |

Long Beach is very special place. The Boardwalk was rebuilt . Beautiful view of the ocean, beach. Here are a wide variety of concerts, fairs and other events. Fun place for jogging and bicycle riding .great for run or a walk. Pretty clean. Nice place for the family.

City By the Sea

By LongBeachCoupe |

Long beach is not only where I live, but one of my favorite places in New York. The LIRR brings people here hourly, they get to rent bikes 24hrs and ride on the boardwalk, hang at one of the bars or just chill on the beach. It is expensive to access the sand if you are not a resident ($12 a person) and parking is tough, but its all worth it.

The best!

By dtm17 |

I live here and I love it. The boardwalk is beautiful any time of year. Our beach is kept clean and is easily reached by rail, bus, or car. Food trucks just get better and better. There are concerts on the beach throughout the summer. Just the best people in the best place. Come visit!

A beautiful boardwalk

This is the best boardwalk in Long Island .It is clean ,has a beautiful view of the beach and the ocean. A wonderful place to walk .

A Good Beach, No Bells and Whistles, but Everything You Need

By LouisaSilver |

Pros:
- Easily accessible via public transportation (LIRR) as well as by car.
- So, so close to NYC, but feels like a world away.
- Very colorful, lots of people, pretty clean.
- Chairs and umbrellas available.

Cons:
- Can get super crowded on weekends, but I guess that's the case for any beach.
- Not very many attractions at the beach. It's pretty much just a beach.

I guess my point is that if you're in NYC and you're looking for a close and easy beach to go to, then this is probably your best bet, but it's really not the most exciting beach on earth (or even in New York), but if you have limited time, it'll get the job done!

Worth the trip

By Lisa V |

My Bf and I usually frequent the gay beach @ Riis as it is nearby is in Bay Ridge and oh so much fun. We decided to take an adventure to Long Beach and it was totally worth the drive. Street parking can be daunting but my parking karma was in effect and we found a prime spot on my mother's home state street, Tennessee blvd. Its usually $10 we person to get onto the beach but a kindly couple just leaving gave us their beach passes! Yay us!!! The beach is super clean and littered with mostly attractive, nice people. The bathrooms are cleaner than any beach I've ever been to and I've been to many. Overall, it was an awesome beach day. Long beach is such a cozy quaint beach community that feels like you're not even in NY. We packed a great lunch and libations so we missed out on all the casually cool bars and restaurants on the main strip. Not to be missed next time as we will surely be going back!

relax on the boardwalk

Go take a walk on one of the best boardwalks that i know of. When people tell me they went to this boardwalk and that boardwalk they havent been to LongBeach. You can also just sit an relax on the benches or maybe you would like to ride your bike. What ever you do will really enjoy the boardwalk

Home Sweet Home!

By Kelly21830 |

October 29, 2012 The City of Long Beach was destroyed by Sandy but The Locals didn't sit around waiting for help. They helped each other survive during the storm and in the aftermath they picked each other up. But it doesn't take a SuperStorm to bring The Locals together, their arms are always extended to lend a helping hand or offer a hug.

Aside from the people, Long Beach has beautiful, wide beaches which are groomed every morning before the crowds come down for the day.

There are restaurants with various cuisines to satisfy your cravings, night spots with live music and djs spinning the latest tunes. There are several parks for the kids and art studios to show their creative side - or to give the ladies a night out with the girls. Even a restaurant week.

There are festivals throughout the year for families, jazz enthusiasts, craft fair lovers, fireworks, etc.and shops to browse through with everything from children's apparel to men's and women's clothing and accessories to fun gifts and furniture.

Long Beach is still recovering from Sandy but it hasn't stopped the residents from appreciating what they have.

It's a fun place to visit and you can always get your nails done or take a yoga class before you head home on the LIRR, NICE bus (N15 or N33) or by car.

Nice place for a leisurely stroll

By Parama M |

This review is only for the boardwalk - we went on a weekend during summer so there were quite a few others - but the long expanse of the boardwalk did not make it seem crowded. There is a nice view of the beach and the ocean on one side with mostly residential buildings on the other. It had the feels of a jersey shore town without any of the glitzy amusement parks or stores. There was a nice ice-cream shop and a few snack places on the way and that is all. It was a pleasant surprise to find a smorgasboard like food truck stop mid-way - we had some really good tacos there. All in all its a fun place to have a relaxing walk while taking in nice ocean views and people watching. There were also beach ball courts somewhere in the middle and a stadium like seating to sit and watch. Also parking may not be very easy to find. We parked about 2 blocks away as everything close by was full on a Saturday afternoon.

Love this town!

By H Marque |

I don’t live here but I’m here for business and pleasure 75% of the time.
One of the best cities in NY.
The beach may draw people but it’s the community that keeps them here.

Safe,Clean,Great waves

By eggwinner |

If you want a safe and clean boardwalk where you can do your run or brisk walking exercise when in New York, then ride the LIRR train at the Pen station going to Long Beach and Ergo you are away from the bustling Manhattan Life. It has about 5 miles boardwalk end to end. You don'nt get tired and wanting for more, maybe the result of the sound of waves while you are doing your exercise. Ever now and then a police car does a patrol, safe indeed.

Fantastic Beach—and just 53 minutes from NYC!

By tgaann |

From Penn Station, take the LIRR just 53 minutes to Long Beach, Long Island. This sublime place has a 2-mile boardwalk and miles of pristine public beach. A new bike share lets you rent bikes on the boardwalk so you don’t need to schlep yours from the hot City. The water quality is great. The beaches are clean and safe. LB lifeguards watch everyone carefully. Do go during the week if possible to avoid the summer crowds. This place rocks! But don’t go on the rocks! These are new jetties built by the Army Corps to protect this wonderful beach: our City by the Sea. Once dubbed “the healthiest city in America,” you’ve got to see it to believe it, and leave some sand in your shoes.

Clean quiet beach

Very nice clean and quiet beach during the week. Parking was easy - great for a day trip during the summer to relax

Lovely even during Fall

By CanberraFoodieACT |

We were here last week. The weather was beautiful and sunny. We even had t-shirts on while walking the huge boadwalk.

We boarded the train from Penn Station and were there in an hour. We had planned to go to the hamptons that day but it was just too far and from reviews i could see it was a trip you really needed a car for to fully appreciate the area. So Long Island seemed like a an easier option and easily accessible. The train stops right in town and then it's a short 5 mins walk to the board walk.

There was a bar and coffee shop but not much else with it being Fall. We stopped in at the Stop and Shop which is a large supermarket with much lower prices than New York and they have ready to go meals and salads - great for a picnic.

The boardwalk is lovely and long beach really is LONG! There did appear to be a lot of small glass in the sand at the beach. So i guess stick to the board walk or leave your shoes on until you get closer to the water. We ventured onto the beach closer to the water to build sand castles and look at the shells.

Was a fabulous half day for us and then we headed to Brooklyn - Atlantic Terminal -rather than returning to Penn Station and checked out the waterfront and walked over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Excellent place to visit and live!!

Been a Long Beach resident most of my life. Went to school here and have the most wonderful memories that I will cherish forever.

The boardwalk

By Lolly’s Look |

When you finally get a great day with good weather this is the place to enjoy it. You can walk the boardwalk and take in the ocean. Stop for a drink or lunch at the many great restaurants and bars. We bring our bikes in the summer.

Overrated, overpriced and weird

By Vin C |

first of all, why a toll pass pays for every highway or toll station in and around the whole city except you want to enter Long Beach on the bridge??
Prepare to pay extra $2 to get on and off the island. That might be the way, the locals trying to keep strangers away from there 'causy' homes with minimum 2 "stars and stripes" in the yards.
The best thing there in summer might be some East Beach Volleyball tournements, some cool food trucks along the boardwalk and many courts to play.
Had to pay $15 per person entrance... thought ok, to keep the beach clean and healthy but than they give you plastic card and stamp them like in a train and dump the micro plastic pieces just down into the sand!
No where any wind breaker / protection or shade supply. You better bring your whole camping bungalow for a dip in the water.
The local boardwalk and beach watch are chasing people to tell them what is actually all not permitted. A feel of over policing. Sitting on the rocks by the water is $500 fine! So better you read the entire beach rule if you plan to spend some hours there.
Atlantic Beach can be fun if you like some crowded membership club beach experience but just going for a splash in the ocean or a hang out on the beach with a family... there are lots of better places, including the Rockaway Beaches, which seem much more organic and open and easy to get to even with the subway or if you need it fancier go to fire island or the hamptons!

Recently changed to prohibit non residents

By Bill R |

Long Beach ... beach, was recommended by my college aged daughter. We went there and found out that a couple weeks ago they started limiting access to residents, so we were out of luck here. We ended up driving 15 mins east and going to Jones Beach state park. So the only thing we really experienced were the food trucks before the beach access. 😕🌊🐬

Stay away

By dzsokosoko |

Uff horrible beach, congested. Get this, either due to lack of lifeguards or laziness whatever they had (very unsafe btw) packed thousands of people on one small maybe 100 meters wide section with nowhere to sit and the lifeguard strangely had his 'house' all the way back behind all the crowd making his truck to water pretty far while not allowing people to sit in front of his 10 meters wide pathway to water. Incredibly disorganized, unsafe, stressful and stupid. Then you have to sit like sardines on top of each other and hear other peoples yucky music or worst smell all kind of smokes. You want to avoid that nonsense but they don't allow you to sit on empty sections of beach without this useless lifeguard. I left immediately within 5 min as if you can't enjoy the beach why get myself tortured and surely will never come back. Coney Island is about 50 times better than this and easily accessible. If you want to escape NYC for a change and don't want to go to Coney for a change then I suggest Robert State Moses Beach million times better than Long Beach and you can walk to less crowded spots if need more space unlike this jungle. Ptuyy. Stay away if you don't want stress and annoyance.

Serene area

This Boardwalk offer a serene setting for meditation, exercise and relaxation. The ocean waves against the beach on one side and the towering complexes on the other offers a day of peace. Stop by the benches and read the memorials to dearly departed loved oned.

When the weather is good, this is a nice place to take a walk, bike, or be with a partner

By Jack F |

There is a long boardwalk, but it is not as busy or bustling as the Atlantic City Boardwalk since there are only a few shops along the way. It is mostly residential or barren areas on one side, then the sandy beach on the other. They do have a section where you can eat and there is a pop-up shipping area for souvenirs or t-shirts, but otherwise, it is mostly to take in the sights, cool breeze, relax, and enjoy the company of a significant other or be by yourself if that does it for you. Beautiful sunsets.

Great place to live!

By Paul B |

2 Years ago, my wife told me she wanted to be closer to the water...I brought her to the back door of our house and pointed to the boat and canal and asked how could we get any closer. She laughed and said, no, I mean I need to be closer to the beach. I humored her ( I loved having the boat behind my house) and asked what she was thinking. She immediately responded, I think I want to be in Long Beach. I was shocked, this was going to make her commute change from 15 minutes to 45 minutes...she still said, "please find us some options". So, I had my new task. After about 4 months and constant time spent in Long Beach, it was growing on me and I had what I thought was a good option. She decided it was a great option and immediately wanted to do it...well here we are 2 years later and we both absolutely love living in Long Beach! It truly is a different way of life while still living in NY. It is a great community and I recommend it to everyone.

This City is the only Village in Nassau county where the average age is actually getting Younger. It has the widest selection of desirable apartments in Nassau County. It has Three "Downtowns". One is the actual center of town with 6 land Park avenue, and the Long Island Rail Road terminal. Lots of shops and Restaurants.

The second "Downtown" is the West End. Formerly a colony of Summer Bungalows, these have morphed into up to 3 story year-round residences.

the third "Downtown" is the 2.2 mile long (11,111'-4") Boardwalk..Lots of runners & walkers and a dedicated bicycle lane.

Farmers Markets, Harvest festivals, Surf Contests, cross Fit competitions, road races, artists shows, parades and just about everything you could ask for.

There's something for everyone in Long beach.

I have a second home here. No dogs on the beach and they do charge residents for use of the beach. The beach is clean with lifeguards. This is a family town and not a tourist destination.
