Beautiful falls with incredible view of Emerald bay. This is a perfect spot for a picnic or a photo shoot or just to rest and take in the beauty.

Our family ranging in age from 6 to 84 was blessed to visit the South Lake Tahoe area over Mother's Day weekend. Beautiful weather afforded us the chance to hike the Lower Eagle Falls trail. Some of us hiked farther than others, but our teenage granddaughter and boyfriend plus us 60 something grandparents hiked nearly to the lake and the views were just breathtaking. Thought it was an easy hike and it was great to see folks of all ages hiking it. Each direction was a "wow" view.

There was plenty of snow this past winter, and much snow remains on the high peaks. It's still melting rapidly and so the creeks and falls are spectacular. But the trails were clear and dry.
Parking was difficult due to lots of visitors, even midweek. There's lots of parking along the state highway, but a considerable walk may be required to reach the trailheads at Vikingsholm.
I walked from the parking lot at Vikingsholm up to a vista point on the north side of the stream, overlooking Eagle Falls. Then I went down to the bridge and hiked up the (steep) trail on the south side, all the way to Eagle Lake. (The trail continues, but wilderness permits are required beyond the lake.)
I used up about 2 and 1/2 hours, but I took my time. I came down in 50 minutes at a steady pace. The trail is probably about a mile to mile-and-a-half.

The hike to these falls was not far - about 1.5 miles. However, the altitude is high - somewhere around 6000 feet. If you are not use to breathing at this altitude, it can get a little daunting. Worth the hike though - just make sure you take water.

Usually in early summer there is more water and by August a lot less. You need to hike in to see either down a steep road of hike from Emerald Bay Camp Ground. Day use available. They have closed this year but you can hike from road.

Due to drought the falls were dry but the place was easy to get too and should be good once the rain level increases

Lower Eagle Falls is easily reached via highway 89. It's a very easy walk down to the river and to the edge; anything beyond the edge becomes moderate to strenuous. There's not a lot to do here but admire the view of the river and the lake below. Across the street there's a parking lot and bathrooms, and the hiking trail. If you wish to just take an easy walk, you can go up the trail about 3 blocks and enjoy the waterfall there. Sit on the bench and relax and listen to the rushing wind in the trees and the sound of the water. If you want a more moderate hike, proceed up the stairs and around the mountain. There is a short walkway near the parking lot which is wheelchair accessible.

- As "Nothomemuch" mentioned, it depends on the rain. During the summer, it may not be spectacular. For me, this is more like a bonus attraction while hiking down to Emerald Bay/Vikingsholm which is deserved to be in much higher ranking on TA list to do. Then just walk 0.3 miles from the visitor center and so why not. Otherwise, don't waste you time hiking up from a separate parking area to see upper fall.
- Fall is not that big; I'm not even comparing with grand Niagara falls or Yosemite fall where surrounding is like heaven. Even midsize fall like Multnomah Falls from OR is much more spectacular because of the bridge and easy accessibility. Ok, let's compare to something with similar size in the USA. Havasupai Falls from AZ is mucho better!

Easy short hike to beautiful views!!! There was so much water it was so refreshing! Super great place for pictures!

What a lovely hike and waterfall. Very easy to get to, wasnt crowded and the falls were truely beautiful. Would go back again!

Due to severe California drought there's not much water. But the scenery was nice and there's a view of Emerald Bay along the way.

When you go to Lake Tahoe, you must drive over to Emerald Bay. Not only for its' beauty, but its history. Hiking around the bay is an option, but can be challenging. The Lower Eagle Falls is right on Highway 89 & is very picturesque. Take a lot of photos, so you can share with people who have never been there. A must side trip.

The fall take a little effort to see. There are many different views. They ca be viewed near the Vikingholm and from the vantage points near the parking area. One tip, pay attention to the no parking signs, this would be a $72 mistake. Get there early, parking goes quick even on the week days. Bring water.

It was a little scary to get here for me, being a city Texas girl. But wow, when we got there, it was truly amazing. Great location and views

We went down Emerald Bay and followed the trail to this Eagle Falls (both lower and upper parts). It's a short hiking and great experience. Recommended to visit in early Summer so the Falls is still full of water, strong. From Lower, just a short climbing up with easy access and you are at the Upper part to see the full Falls.

The falls are not that "big", but a short and easy climbing reveals a great view of the lake. Parking the car was a bit of an issue - had to wait for a location to become available, and it was not clear where it's free and where not.

As a waterfall junkie, this is a very nice fall after a short hike. There is a pool at the top, accessed by a bridge, that was perfect for soaking our feet and relaxing in nature soaking up the sound of rushing water. The only drag was parking in the area as it was across the road from Emerald Bay.

I saw it during the drought and it was still worth it. The road crosses over the top of the falls with a few stairs leading down so it's fairly accessible for just about anyone. Lovely drive to get to it with amazing views.

The Lower Eagle Falls is right on the highway so it is easy to get to.....but parking lots spots are limited. You can park along the street, but that is still limited.
It was beautiful. It was early July, so it was also busy. We were still able to climb on/around the falls and take some nice photos.
I wouldn't take small kids....the falls are easy to access and you are at the top (high up).

We arrived at 7:30 and found plentiful parking. We were in the Eagle Falls lot. We first saw lower falls from Hwy 89 and then hiked upper Eagle Falls first. Next we went down to Vikingsholm and then back up to Lower Eagle Falls. All of the views are extraordinary and worth it. We’re mid forties. My hubs has had 3 knee surgeries and I’ve had a hip replacement. Some parts are steep but very manageable. We took 4-5 breaks on the way back up from Vikingsholm and it took 30 minutes.

This is a perfect way to spend 2-3 hours when around South Lake Tahoe. Somewhat strenuous, but certainly doable for anyone under 75 that is at all active. Nice views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area. About two miles round trip.

Great hike to eagle lake and upper velma lake. its the far east entrance to desolation wilderness. bring lots of water, and sunscreen. you can hike as far as your feet will carry you

Short track to the Upper Eagle falls, and great views to Lake Tahoe. very worth the visit. The Lower Falls is on the other side of the road from the parking lot!

We've been doing this same hike every Labor Day for the past 20 years with our large family reunion group. What's great about the hike is the fact that it's accessible for adults and kids of all ages and Eagle lake is not too far at all (pack a picnic lunch and eat along the boulders on the edge of the lake). Of course it is much prettier when there's not a severe drought and the waterfalls aren't dried up, but don't let that deter you. Also, once at the lake, for the bold who can handle the freezing cold water (our teenagers), you can swim across to the small islet in the middle of the lake.

Amazing hike with a nice refreshing lake to cool off into. This is a short hike about 2hrs max round trip, 3.4miles. It's classified as easy to moderate.
Dog friendly with views of the falls before you start onto the trail to the lake.
Parking is very limited so get there early on a busy holiday weekend or park on the sides.

It’s extremely easy to walk to these falls and also enjoy a beautiful view of Emerald Bay. Unfortunately it’s necessary to go early in the morning to get a parking spot.

It s a great area to hike in, and well set up, but expect lots of people, and limited parking so will be parking on the highway unless get there early

Just a short safe walk from the parking area for Emerald bay. The falls can be açcesed from the road. Beautiful waterfall. Can get busy.

Fantastic views from the top of the waterfall, a short drive from the town by car. Fantastic photo opportunity of one of the loveliest views of the Lake

A Tahoe must....Spring and early summer...are best, although the view of Emerald Bay is worth the walk.

Easy parking if you get there early and short walk to falls. Great views, perfect place to take pictures with Emerald Bay in the background.

We had a range of ages from 5 years old to 68 and everyone made it all the way to the lake. It is a bit of a climb up steps but everyone in our party made it and the views are breath-taking. The lake at the top was beautiful and the water felt great although chilly.

I just love waterfalls. Lower Eagles Falls has the best view of lake Tahoe. Great place for a picnic.

Absolutely beautiful. Took so many pictures. The waterfall is amazing and the views of Emerald bay are unbelievable. We went on Memorial Day when the crowds had started to head home, so we got a spot on the side of the road and walked right down. Inspiration point is about a half mile away with (really gross) bathrooms and more parking. You would have to walk along the highway from there if there's no parking at the falls, but it's a good back up option.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of this waterfall (especially in this drought!). You can park your car 100 ft. from the entrance to the top of the falls, where you can walk around on big rocks and glimpse views of Emerald Bay and the beautiful falls. We spied a viewing point at the bottom of the falls and determined to find the way down there. If you walk back to the road and up to the Vikingsholm parking area, you can walk DOWN a paved road about a mile to get to the Lower Eagle Falls Trailhead (just remember a hike that goes DOWN, must come UP). This trail also leads you to the Vikinsholm tour area and a closeup view of Emerald Bay with the island... There were also kayak rentals available at the bottom. The hike to the lower part of the falls is short and easy with pretty views of falling water. The hike back up the paved road is a bummer, but well worth the trip!

Pretty view not as much water as seen in other pictures but probably due to time of year, still worth the hike. Trail was moderate but plenty of stopping spots along the way

Saw the area from South Shore- looked like Snow. As we drove around Emerald Bay, we discovered it was Lower Eagle Falls. We stopped and walked down the stairs to see the water cascading over the rocks. What an unexpected treat!!! Will recommend stopping by to anyone in the area,.

Go early in the year after the rains and snow melt. Enjoy the these falls at their most spectacular, it's totally awesom

If you visit Lake Tahoe you must hike the Eagle Falls trail to the lake! It is about 1.25 miles up. It’s a fairly easy hike but you should be in good shape since it is uphill through a rocky terrain. We saw many families doing it with small kids. So much beauty in this hike words can’t do it justice.

Parking is limited (as everyone mentions). So we found the first spot we could find (about 500m before the main park entrance). The hike is divided into a loop with a vista aside and an extension hike to Eagle Lake. To hike everything (loop, vista, lake) was about 3.5 miles. Trail was well developed and I would say it is intermediate only because of the many stone steps and how up and down it was. If you don't do the Eagle Lake extension hike, you are missing out. The lake is so peaceful and serene. We could not get enough of it. The views throughout the entire hike are absolutely stunning and overlook Emerald Bay of Lake Tahoe. The "falls" on the trail were basically nothing. However, if you cross the street from the parking lot, you can see an actual waterfall and climb down close to it for an awesome lunch/picnic spot.

The Lower Eagle Falls is beautiful. We saw waterfalls, snow capped mountains, the island, and Lake Tahoe in one place. You could park free on the street and parking lot opposite to the Falls. Or you could park at the National Forest Parking which you have to pay. We spent about one hour there.

This is an easy hike with a stunning view of Emerald Bay. I would not recommend this hike for young travellers - too many cliffs to fall off of.

We hiked up to the Lower Eagle Falls. It was beautiful and worth the hike. The only thing bad about this place is the lack of parking.

Add it to the list if you're in the area of Emerald Bay. Not too hard of a hike, but be care not to stray too far off the beaten path especially during winter.

We hiked to Eagle Falls in the morning and had plenty of time for a second hike. The trail is relatively easy other than a few wet or rocky patches. We hiked to the bridge, but decided not to continue to the lake since there was still snow on the trail and it was muddy (according to some people who did go all the way.) The falls were really beautiful and the views along the hike were also pretty.

The falls are a very short hike from the parking area. The rock/dirt steps were a little bit steep, but not too hard for my handicapped husband and me. The falls are quite a distance away and flow into a rocky stream. The sun in the morning was not advantageous for good pictures. Perhaps the afternoon would have been a better time to get impressive photos of the falls. Visitors have a longer trail available to hike further, if so inclined.

The waterfall is easy to get to, so long as you are not afraid of heights since there is no guard rail when walking along the falls. Great place to take photographs. We saw a bear standing on the top of a nearby car across the street, so be aware.

This is a nice hike to see the beautiful waterfall! The trail is moderate to get to the falls but well worth it :)

Nice waterfall but it will be dried up by summer, so visit during the spring runoff.
State Park parking lot is always full. Also trail is NOT dog friendly.

This is quite worth the hike, its absolutely stunning and beautiful, although you'll want to go before the snow all melts and the falls slow to a trickle. Be sure to go see them before July gets here and they'll be flowing!

Beautiful location along the road to stop, walk on the rocks, take lots of photos of the falls and Lake Tahoe.

We got down to the beach from Vikingholm parking lot, saw the mansion and then walk up a short trail to see the first cascade from a bridge, then continue going up the trail until it ends. Great view of the waterfall, gorgeous!!!

Parking is a difficult thing to find, even in the middle of the week. Roads are narrow, windy and not many guardrails. The scenery was beautiful overlooking Emerald Bay, but the falls this time of year were a little underwealming.

We hiked from the top down and it was easy to moderate. The scenery is beautiful and worth the hike. Make sur eyou take your camera.

One of the most gorgeous views in Lake Tahoe!! The parking is a little trying. You can park along the road, but it is limited. There is also a very small parking lot across from the falls as well. We had to wait awhile for a space to open up, well worth the wait!! There is a beautiful hiking trail just passed the falls, just follow the signs.

Don't stop at Eagle Falls but make sure you take the hike that continues on to Eagle Lake. Well worth the extra effort. Beautiful mountain lake that reminds me of the much more popular Lake Lorraine in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy. There's also a nice trail on the other side of the road with the parking area that goes down to Emerald Bay that is also a nice hike. Plan to spend 1/2 day here to take in it all.

Beautiful scenery. Make sure you pack a lunch and drinks. It's free. Make sure your not pulling a camper because it will be a mistake. Very narrow roads, but you can do it. There's parking either along the side walk or at the top. There's bathrooms just about 1/2 miles down the road with more great views.

This is just a very short hike from where you park to see the beautiful water falls with babbling brook. I am NOT a hiker but it was very easy and worth the little walk! Enjoy

Great hike for a beautiful view! I would rate this as a medium difficulty hike. This may be too much for someone who had knee or hip issues. If you can make it, the view is great, but as always in the summer, this can be a busy place.

A fairly easy hike from Vikingsholm. They are spectacular. But, once at the falls, just be aware that you need to hike back down to Vikingsholm and then there is a steep one-mile hike back up to the parking areas. But well worth it!

Easy to walk to, or you can go on to explore more of the falls. Amazing view of the falls and lake. You must visit if you go to Tahoe.

If you can do the Vikingsholm trail hike to get down here, then you can easily do this one. It’s short and you are rewarded with a stunning waterfall at the end. It is uphill, but not nearly as bad as some others.

pleasant, medium difficulty, short walk to falls and bridge. great views. nicely placed stone steps helping where it is steep.

After walking down to Vikingsholm, we noticed the path to Lower Eagle Falls. It leaves from the back of the small VIsitor Center where the Rubicon Trail departs for the Emerald Bay campground. It's a little steep to the falls but less than 1/2 mile. But the falls is barely a cascade with not much to see.

The main problem is with the parking, which is very limited. Better to be there early in the morning before 9AM, even earlier in busy weekends. Other than that, great view of the Eagle Falls and Emerald Bay. Hiking is a bit steep, better use the Vikingsholm trail to get down to the lake.

As others have mentioned, during the busy season parking is difficult to find in the lot. Many people parked on the sides of the road. The hike is not too difficult, but the signs do not give you much info. it is mostly uphill, lots of rocks to climb and steps. Bring water. Lots of dogs and kids on our hike.

Perfect hike on a spectacular Spring day! Hike easily to the lower falls. Then upwards to the Upoer Falls and Vista loop. Snow on the ground. Sparking waterfalls. Incredible view of Emerald Bay and the deep blue of Lake Tahoe. Sensational and not to be missed!

nice view from the rocks up there, interesting path, high parking rate for that "short" walk, chance to shoot photos up there

We were lucky and had an abundance of water, which increased the beauty of the waterfall. This is just off the highway, so no real walking. There are other falls up a trail that are also worth visiting.

Its very hard for me to judge this spot because when we visited in October the fall was more like a trickle of water down the stones. The surrounding area is nice but if you are going to see a waterfall make sure you go sometime in late spring.

When you feel overly commercialized by South Lake Tahoe - head on 50 to 89 and watch for some great views. The reviews about it are right on. The views into Emerald Bay from South Lake Tahoe is less than an hour and gets prettier with every mile - but don't take your eyes off the road. :-) Stopping at Inspiration Point (parking can be a challenge), then down to Eagle Falls- WOW! The trail down to Vikingsholm is not for the faint of heart. The mile down and back up are on a steep grade, but don't miss it.

The views are amazing. Short drive from town. Beautiful views all along the way. Get there early in the day or much later in the afternoon. Parking can be tricky when it's crowded.

Great little hike with varying degrees of difficulty if you choose to go off the trail. Lower falls has some nice trails or you can do the free climbing up the rock face.

Get here early to park in the spots outside the trailhead parking (free, or park in lot for $5). Pick up a Desolation Wilderness day hike pass (free) at the trailhead from the wooden box on the left of the sign before you begin. Lots of stone steps and well-maintained trail that goes about 1.5 miles one way. You can hike from Vikingsholm as well. Shady in spots, lots of hikers.

While Upper Eagle Falls is easier to get to, I didn't find it all that impressive having seen many waterfalls before. Lower Eagle Falls, however, was definitely worth hiking down to the shore for (via the Vikingsholm trail, fyi --- why this is so rarely publicized is anyone's guess). Trying to find parking on a Friday in June was a nightmare --- and driving by the area on Saturday showed it was even more of a nightmare. My advice if you can't make it there early is to wait until later in the afternoon when parking started opening up. Around the middle of the day (noonish) was the worst time to be there.

Hike lower eagle falls quickly and easily. Good for all types of hikers from children to seniors. Decent trail to jump on from the road perhaps after a more challenging trail in the vicinity.

I am a local so I have visited almost every month of the year.
These are not raging water falls. They are numerous small waterfalls with a back drop that is spectacular. Right off the road so easy to get to with little climbing. Again, do not expect a big waterfall. Spring is fantastic and it tapers in the summer. Add this to your hike up Eagle Falls.

Short hike up to a great panoramic view. Rock steps make it easy but it's all uphill the way in, then easy steps all the way back down. So worth it. Probably wouldn't be that strenuous at sea level, but when you start at 5500', the stair-climbing portions make you glad you stay in shape.

we do this hike every year and it is a medium level hike. incredible views of lake Tahoe and surrounding areas.

I would say the hike is moderate but well worth it! The terrain is rocky and can be slick in a few areas. The hike to the falls from the parking lot is short but keep going past the bridge up to Eagle Lake. I would recommend getting to the parking area early because parking is limited.

The hike is easy to moderate, depending on your fitness level. The views were beautiful and worth the short hike. When we arrived at the falls, they were not flowing too fast, as it was September, but it was still worth it.

The trip to Lower Eagle Falls is only a third of a mile but it does involve a lot of steps as you climb ever upward! It is well worth the effort however and the entire hike is filled with beautiful scenery! The falls themselves are very impressive with a viewing area to take photos.

We approached the Lower Eagle falls from the visitor's center at Vikingsholm, which was very easy. It has a good, well marked short path, steps, and a bridge easily accessible for viewing the falls. This year the falls were probably exceptionally dramatic, with the vast amounts of snow melt.

My husband and I took the hike up to the upper Eagle Falls. To me, it was a difficult hike but worth it for the gorgeous scenery all the way up. There are other trails that go even higher if you are a glutton for punishment. Whatever you do, go early in the day on a weekday, because this site is very popular and it can be difficult to park.

We really enjoyed the walk from Eagle Point Campground on the Rubicon trail down to Vikingsholm. We hiked up to Eagle Falls and loved it! So beautiful.

This is one of the most beautiful sites we've seen anywhere- and we've been to a LOT of 'anywhere's'! The views into Emerald Bay from South Lake Tahoe is less than an hour and gets prettier with every mile. STopping at Inspiration Point, then down to Eagle Falls- WOW! Don't miss it.

Eagle Falls Trailhead was a nice short hike between the lower and upper parts of the Eagle Falls. Only taking about 20 minutes round trip, it was barely a hike. It wasn’t any more scenic than other parts of Tahoe but being quite far above sea level, the view of Emerald Bay was impressive from all parts of the hike.

Not sure if you can view these falls from the bottom, it's kind of weird looking at falls from the top, but signage for any trail leading down is lacking. We didn't get to see the upper falls that are on the opposite side of the road because parking is really bad in the area.

If you are in South Lake Tahoe, a trip to the falls is a must. It is a short trip and well worth it. Take the trail up to the bridge to see everything. The area is beautiful, and should not be missed.

Took some of the grandkids here for a 10 day mini vacation. Very nice stay, we were all treated well from the first day right thru the last day there. The staff as great, the place was very clean, and quiet, I will be back

We found parking ($10 or $9 for seniors) in the small parking lot and just followed the people down to the beach at the bottom of the hill. There you could rent kayaks or just swim in the fantastic water. It has been hot this summer and the clear water was just right temperature for a swim. There was a pier where boats were mooring up to and kids jumping off of. this place has a lot of visitors becasue its the busy season but not so crowded as other places that were more easily accessible. At one point on the drive to Emerald Bay you can see a 180 degree view of lakes and water on both sides of the highway. So beautiful. Can't wait to come back soon.

Nice and fairly easy hike for the family, steep steps are built into the rocks, so wear good shoes. Enjoy the area

If possible, continue your hike all the way up to the lake. It is certainly worth the climb with beautiful vistas and photo ops.

You get to the falls by way of Emerald Bay State Park. Its a mile hike down to the beach then a .3 miles up to the falls, but its worth the walk. Beautiful view of the bay and the falls.

Although you can see some of this waterfall from the road up above, it's worth the walk down the hill to see all of it. The path down is described as steep by the parks dept. but I'd say it's just tough to walk back up because it's a constant one mile walk up hill, a lot of which is in the sun. Just take your time - we saw many people walk back up who weren't in great shape, but they made it. Kids tended to be a bit whiny and some parents carried them, which would definitely make this quite a hike back up to your car.
From the Vikingsholm site, the path to the falls is behind this building and the museum/gift shop. Go early, before the castle and gift shop open, and it's not too crowded.
The path to the falls can be steep (high rock steps), but we saw several children and older people on the trail. It's a short path to the falls, and you have several places along the way to stop and rest or just to admire the view.
At the top, the falls were very full and we even got sprayed with the nice cool water.
You can also reach the falls from a nearby campsite (to the west of the falls and before you reach Emerald Bay), which won't require the one mile downhill/uphill hike first. Go! It's beautiful!

Located at the far end of Emerald Bay on the beautiful shores of Lake Tahoe are these wonderful falls named Eagle Falls. There are numerous places to park, some a fee is required other parking places are free which are located on the side of HWY 89. One thing though be sure to watch for the no parking signs along HWY 89 because you will get a parking ticket, not fun to get back to your car and see a ticket on your windshield after a blissful viewing. You can walk down just a short bit and stand next to the top of the falls, but please be careful, won't want anyone to slip and get hurt. On the other side of the road is a trail head that will wind up to Eagle Lake, which could take about a hour to get there but well worth the hike. Take along water and some snacks to enjoy when you arrive while enjoying a peaceful setting. One thing though is that you are entering Desolation Wildness and you will need a permit just for the day hike. The cost for the permit is free and there is a little station with the permits there and all you have to do is fill one out and remember to keep your copy with you when hiking. I would not recommend taking small children with you to Eagle Lake because it can be long and some what strenuous for the smaller ones and that will not be fun for all. Well worth checking these two attractions out. The attached photo is taken from a little bluff across from the falls and this was taken about four o'clock in the morning with that beautiful morning light.

The lake is what makes this hike outstanding. I am sure the Falls are going in Spring, but in Fall, not so much

This is a smaller fall that goes into the bay. Its a very short hike. It was very easy from emerald bay. We hiked to emerald bay and then walked across to the lower eagle falls.

There wasn't any parking in the lot and we were lucky enough to find a spot along the road, which was nice since you had to pay to park in the lot. Great view of Emerald Bay!!

The waterfall is as pretty as most but nothing spectacular and not worth the parking fee and walk just to see it unless you want to go on a trail hike through the park. The parking lot is very small and usually filled on the weekends.

Lower Eagle Falls is right off the hwy, so its a very easy walk. If you want to go right down to the falls, there are stone stairs, and Upper Eagle falls are right across the road.. Both sets of falls are amazing to see, and definitely a good way to refresh your soul! We are having the best winter in the last 5 years, so this year we will have a good "waterfall season" I can't wait! Bring a camera! Emerald Bay is one of the most photographed places on earth! (really). The upper falls has a bridge that spans across the top of the falls, and if you choose to keep hiking the trail, be sure to bring a bottle of water, as the further you hike, the more streams, waterfalls and lakes you will find in Desolation wilderness. There is a small fee to park and it is recommended that a permit is filled out at the trail head.

This season it should be spectacular due to the over abundance of snow in the mountains. You also can go across the street to the park and walk the trail to the upper eagle falls. This is not suited for small children. Worse park of this location is on busy days parking is nuts. So try and get there first thing of the day to avoid the crazy situation.

Eagle Falls are actually two falls, Upper and Lower Eagle Falls. There is a small parking lot and picnic area on Hwy 89 which, as everyone says, fills up early but many people park on the side of the road (we did). Either way, walk through the parking lot to the trail head. We took the trail to the left which is not hard but does ascend and is pretty short. It leads to a beautiful foot bridge and a small waterfalls. We walked back from the bridge and continued the loop, which has a stunning view of Emerald Bay, back to the lot. My grown daughter, wife and I (we are 60-ish, in fair shape but have feet and knee issues) made it with no problems. Across 89 from the lot is the top of Lower Eagle Falls which also has terrific views of Emerald Bay and is a fun area to explore. There may be a way to go down the lower falls from there but we didn't look for it. Instead, on another day, we went to Vikingsholm (please see the separate review) on Emerald Bay. The parking area is just a short drive past the Eagle Falls lot. It is a bit of a walk from the parking area down to Emerald Bay (and even more of a walk back up!). We spent the day there including the short hike to Lower Eagle Falls. Again it is a pretty short and easy hike but there are a fair number of stone stairs to climb up. The lower falls are bigger than the upper but both are definitely worth your time and effort! We probably spent a good hour and a half or so at Upper Eagle Falls, including playing around the top of the lower falls. You can do the Lower Eagle Falls in less time but it is easy to spend the entire day at Vikingsholm.

About a mile down an the another .2 the falls. Things to do and even a store at the bottom. Parking is tough so grab the first spot you see.

The lower falls is a short walk.A lot of snow and ice to maneuver around to see the falls. The water was flowing under ice mostly but the parts you could see were amazing.
Also the view of Emerald bay in the backdrop also was breathtaking.I reccomend this hike in the winter.I have been by here many times and never realized the falls were this close to the highway.

If you time this right you can feel like you have the place to yourself; but it can be a nightmare to park safely. The views of the only island on Lake Tahoe are fab

Great trail with stone steps and a wooden bridge. Great moderate hike with a great payoff at the end.

We just hike this trail on April 22nd. There is still snow and small streams to cross from the melting snow. The state park is not open but there is limited parking on the road and across the street. We wore gym shoes and were able to hike it. Although, our feet did get a bit wet.
It was a fun adventurous hike and the scenery was beautiful

Easy walk, short distance, but be careful! Must see near Emerald bay. Get there EARLY! Limited parking. Beautiful pictures from there.

What an amazing set of waterfalls, right on the beautiful scenic highway. Easy walk to both waterfalls and well worth it

The Lower Eagle Falls Trail is a lovely trail in Emerald Bay State Park. It starts at the State Park Visitor Center and quickly climbs via rocky stairs to the spectacular Lower Eagle Falls. When I visited in July, the water flow was not robust, but the scenery was still spectacular. The whole trek back & forth is less than a mile. But, note that getting to the trailhead from the State Park parking lot requires an additional one mile hike (downhill from the parking lot). If you are visiting the State Park do not miss this short waterfall hike.

We knew that the falls are very quiet this time of the year, so our real hike was to Eagle Lake, above the falls, and it did not dissapoint. We had no trouble parking at the trailhead, around 9 am on a weekday, Upon returning, cars were parked everywhere, Great views, and I would rate the hike above the falls as moderate, not easy..

Hiked here from vikingsholm, awesome views on the way. Steps are little steep but manageable. Well worth it.

An easy hike to some of the most spectacular scenery in Lake Tahoe. It takes about 10-15 minutes (easy pace) to get to the falls. Parking could be tricky. We went the week before Memorial Day weekend and the crowds were low. I can see this getting very crowded during peak times. Highly recommended.

Lower Eagle Falls is gorgeous, however it is a highway of tourists all summer long. You can't hike up to the falls without passing a few crowds blasting music from backpacks ruining the peaceful sound of the waterfall and nature. If you're looking for a tad bit more peace, try going further up into Desolation. Why are people so rude?

This is a great place to go if you are in Lake Tahoe. The falls are great and there is a hike that leads you towards the falls. Alternatively you can also park your car at the nearest vista point, or there is a paid parking lot(although that's very limited, you maybe able to find parking on the shoulder). The hike is recommended, it will take a while the elevation is pretty steep, since it keeps falling continuously. The way back is harder since you are walking uphill. It's not more than 1.2 miles, with frequent short breaks the hike is doable. The view of the lake and then the walk towards the falls, is awesome. The falls aren't visible immediately, after the 1.2 mile hike, there is approx 0.4 mile hike towards the falls. Carry water, hat and sunscreen while you hike. There are restrooms when you reach the lake and there is one water fountain in case if you are out of water.

One of my favorites hike in Southlake Tahoe. It's more of a short walk you can do it in flip-flops. Easy for anyone. The falls will be fantastic this year because of all the snowfall. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the beach and area all day. Getting there by boat is the best way to see Emerald Bay then anchor and walk up to the falls behind Vikings home

We hiked the Rubicon Trail and Lower Eagle fall with 7 people age 16 - 54. It was a blast. Everyone loved this adventure.

This place offers a gorgeous view of Emerald Bay, but you need to get there early to avoid the disappointment of not finding a place to park. Also it is a popular spot for weddings, and the best overview may be taken by the wedding parties.

I won't repeat the excellent directions posted by JMiller08 last month, but I will recommend reading the review and walking this trail. The paved path down to Vikingsholm was easy going down but rather more strenuous going back up. Take water with you! The trail from the small visitor center (just beyond Vikingsholm) to Lower Eagle Falls can be accomplished quickly, and the falls are certainly worth the effort. We enjoyed the Lower Falls as much as the falls on Eagle Falls Trail up the road.

We loitered - as many others did - around the top of Lower Eagle Falls and searched unsuccessfully - as many others did - for the supposed trail downhill from which to view up to the falls. We followed each and every indication of such trail only to invariably end up on the edge on top of a cliff. There was absolutely no sign to indicate where this trail is. It certainly would have been very very useful for doofus of the area such as we are to have clear signage of this trail...if it does indeed exist.

Beautiful waterfall just a few yards form the road. Easy trail and nice spot for great photos. Stunning views of the Lake form this waterfall

The recent winter snowfall has given the area more waterfalls than the past few years. The Lower Eagle Falls were very beautiful against the magnificent vista. A must see while driving to Emerald Bay.

Easily accessed from the roadway, easy walk to view the falls. Parking is tough, parking lots fill quickly, and roadside parking is available, but hard to find. We did drive by, turn around and found one along the road, as cars come in and out frequently. Once you park, easy walk and the falls are there. Great view from the top, great views of the lake. If you want a bit of adventure, you can scale the rocks and get a better view. Also there are trails to the bottom of the falls if you so desire. Great stop and recommend you make some time to stop.

We drove to Emerald bay which is very beautiful and saw the Lower Eagle Falls tumbling down. Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area is one of the most lovely places we have ever visited. It is so peaceful and unspoiled. We were told we had come at the right time of year as the falls are in full flow after the winter thaw. Absolutely stunning.

We have seen the lower eagle falls before and its such a beautiful hike we wanted to do it again. Its easy to intermediate and absolutely worth it. We went in June this year and it happened to snow one day and then 70 and sunny the next, the falls were awesome. It does get to be a few people around but not over crowded.

This hike was nice and if it were not for all the other better hikes I would have rated this much better.

Enjoyed the hike up to eagle lake. Due to the drought the falls were dry but the scenery was still breathtaking.

If you will be visiting the Emerald Bay Park, you should go to both falls. Arrive early to get the best picture with less people and you can get a good parking. Going to the Upper and Lower falls will be a one whole day affair. The view is breathtaking.

The hiking trail was amazing after the first snow of Fall 2020. If you have it in you, our recommendation is not to stop at the upper falls bridge. It is definitely worth continuing on to Eagle lake.

There is so much more snow melt runoff this year compared to the drought last year. Beautiful falls, easy hike, less than a mile. Eagle lake is a little further.

Visited in September, quite busy on a weekend. Very little water in the stream, no real waterfall at this time.

I am pretty sure that if it hadn't been raining for the last 24 hours it would have been a dry waterfall but luckily it was raining as we hiked down and for the last 24 hrs. It was a fun little hike and no problem for younger kids.

Took a photographic tour and stopped here. A wonderful view, and the waterfall was really flowing. Takes a bit of walking over rocks and such to get to the waterfalls for a good shot. Suggest hiking boots.

It's a pretty good climb..not too strenuous. Beautiful scenery and when you get to the Falls it is just beautiful.

This place is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking! Have a beautiful view of the lake down below. Stop at look-out point before you get here to learn about the history of Lake Tahoe

You can view Lower Eagle Falls from the roadside at the parking area for Emerald Bay Vikingsholm. These are below road level. You can take the trail from the parking lot down to the lake and get a great view of the falls. It's about a 1 mile walk to the bottom.

The hike was short and you can park right at the bottom. It has steps mostly as apposed to a flat trail. If you hike to the falls hike a little further to the Vista. It has a good view of Emerald Bay.

Good luck finding roadside parking for this very popular hike! Spectacular scenery!! A must if you're in the area and you're reasonably fit.

Beautiful views of waterfall and Emerald Bay. Perfect stop for pictures if you don't have a lot of time.

If you hike the 1 mile down to Vikingshome from the overlook parking lot and have a little more energy to burn, it is only about 0.35 miles to the lookout area for Lower Eagle Falls. Very pretty and worth the effort.

This place was so worth it. We tried to find parking at the Eagle Falls Trailhead parking lot. But there were many tourists and we had to park on the side of the road and walk some distance. There are no signs to the falls and we walked to this place hearing the Falls. We did not go to the trailhead to access the Falls. Instead we crossed the road and walked along the side towards the Falls and Lake. Kids had fun dipping their feet in the Water.

you could reach the falls by walking through a few steps. it's cool to stand beside the fall and see it flow into the Tahoe lake.

A good hike from the parking to the lower falls. Nice trail but a rough one. Standing on the wooden bridge and viewing the water falling down and gushing downwards towards the lake is scenic

Very nice views from the falls, easy to reach by car at less than 20 mins from South Lake Tahoe. Good spot for pictures.

The granite staircase was impressive. The kids (4 & 7) zoomed right up it to some incredible views. Well worth the congest d parking.

My family drove to Eagle falls to explore the different views of Lake Tahoe. What a beautiful and peaceful view from the parking lot to the higher elevations in the hike.

Visited in September during a running drought. The falls are more of a light trickle, but still an enjoyable area. The hike up is short and moderate. It is mostly stone stairs.
An area to the top shoots off to a "vista" with a few benches viewing Emerald Bay. Beautiful spot to watch the sun set.
To get the Eagle lake, cross the bridge at the top over the Falls.

very nice hike and safe
great for kids and family to enjoy
also safe for the granparents
mother nature scenery is simply beautiful

This can be pretty crowded later in the day, but if you want to see a beautiful sunrise over lake Tahoe, come here early and there is no trouble parking. There were only a few other people around and it was stunning to slowly watch the light spread over the landscape. You won't regret getting up early.

We went in Oct and although it was still beautiful hiking, the waterfalls were but a trickle. They told us besides the drought they had been experiencing, Spring is always best to see the waterfalls when the snow is melting off the mountains.

Hard to look for parking, but the view is amazing. A Perfect place to take pictures with Emerald Bay.

While most people wore snow shoes and had ski poles to traverse the snow and mountain, we made it in street shoes and it was exciting and exhilarating to see.

While everyone who has visited Emerald Bay advised us that Vikingsholm is a must see, luckily the Park Ranger advised that we should add on Lower Eagle Falls. We're glad we did. Its an easy add on visit, almost a hop, skip and a jump away. Wear layers, bring water and a cash/card for parking at the Vikingsholm and Emerald Bay parking area. We went in November, just after October received 490% of its normal rainfall; the picture shows lots of water cascading down Lower Eagle Falls!

The hike is easy to find and the trail is well marked. You reach the bridge and the falls within 15 minutes or so. You can then continue on for about 20-30 minutes to a lake that offers spectacular views along the way. There are other hikes that continue on to other lakes if you want to make it a more challenging day. The trail head is very close to Vikingsholm as well to do both in the same morning or afternoon.
You pay a voluntary fee at the entrance.

We do not hike! But this was an awesome experience. We took our time going up, we're not used to the altitude and its at least at 6500 ft. But Eagle Lake was amazing, so were the falls, though not as strong at the first of August. Next time, we'll take our suits and a picnic and enjoy the afternoon by the lake.
We also got there early (by 9am on a Sunday) and got to park in the park's parking lot but it costs $5.
It was an awesome hike!

Parking at the Eagle Falls Trail Head and cross the road toward Emerald Bay. A rock stairway leads to the stream and lower falls. You can see it from the roadway, but the short walk is well worth the view. Large rocks, well worn paths provide sure footing. By moving around you can take photos of the stream as it exits the stone bridge, the flow as it starts its fall toward the bay, or edge lower to get a photo of Fannette island, the bay and the falls all framed by cedar trees. A great place to photograph your companion or family.

I'm more of a city girl from Chicago, but my husband loves the outdoors, so I go hiking because of him. I have to say, this was a great hike. It was hard at times, I do work out, but the rock stairs can be a challenge. But my husband was right, the view is amazing! Have the right shoes and layer, it is totally worth it.

After taking the tour of Vikingsholm we walked the trail up to Lower Eagel Falls. You can either stop at the bridge for a great view of the falls or hike up a bit higher for a spectacular view of the falls.
The hike up to the falls is 1/4 mile but is a challenge due to the altitude. However, it's worth the effort!
The parking lot for Vikingsholm seemed to fill up fast so try to get there around 9:30 AM during the summer months.

Hike from highway down to the lake. The falls are viewed from below. Should be special this year’s huge flows. Walk to the upper falls too and Eagle lake. Also view Vikings home. Old Tahoe in pristine condition

There was literally no where to park within a mile of this trail. The parking is limited and it was very busy. Had to give it a miss

Love Eagle Falls! We have only done the shorter hike to the bridge and it has been amazing every time. On our recent trip mid September there was sadly no water in the falls but it was still an amazing view. We have hiked this many times and we have taken our small children twice and my parents who are older as well and they all did fine. At some parts we had to go slow (up all the stairs) but it was still a very pleasant hike!

Very easy walk to the falls, yet it still feels like wilderness. I was here in June and it actually snowed! Lightly.

Spectacular views, beautiful views of Emerald Bay, right off the road, very easy to get to. Worth a stop. Steep and slippery so watch your footing!

Parking can be a bit tricky as the lot is small. However the day I was there it had a lot of coming and going and so we did not have to wait long for a place to open up. One of the things I love about trails in Tahoe is that the entire trail has pretty scenery to enjoy throughout the hike. This trail has something for most levels. The walk to the waterfall is not far but if you wish to challenge yourself it gets much more tougher once you pass the falls. Park ranger there to answer questions which is always helpful.

I go visit when I'm in town it is a great thing to do to enjoy the view and the mountain. Go to thevikingsholm as well.

We went in August when there was definitely less water in the falls. An easy hike from Vikingsholm and we did this as part of a day spent down in Emerald Bay.

Tough to park around here during the busy summer season, but be patient and get a spot or park at the Vikingsholm Trail lot for $10 and walk a couple hundred yards down the street. The falls are worth it. And super easy to access. Really doesn't require any hiking to see the lower falls. Can hike up the trail to see more.

We parked in the parking area parallel to the main road. There was a sign that said "Eagle Falls Trailhead." We could not find a trail leading DOWN from the road to the falls visible from the road. So we cross-countried it along a clearly oft-used makeshift trail to the left of the falls (as you look twoards the lake). Once down, we intersected the official (Lower) Eagle Falls overlook and from there continued down the official trail to Vikingsholm. From there, we completed the loop by hiking up the Vikingsholm trail/road back to our car. This is not an officially sanctioned loop ... but it worked for us!
(Note: We figured out after the fact that the actual Eagle Falls trailhead is back off the main road a bit, at the end of a small, state-run fee parking lot. The trail does not go DOWN along Lower Eagle Falls but up along Uppter Eagle Falls to Eagle Lake.)

You can see these falls from the road and you can walk down to them from the road. They are nice but not great.

Beautiful area, an easy to moderate trail (some climbing up stairs involved) too bad there was no water in the falls, really sad.

Bummed into this little treasure while driving along 89 on Thursday 11/5. It was a beautiful sunny, cold afternoon and we spotted the falls while parked at the turn off above Vikingsholm. Found our way over to the parking for Upper Eagle Falls and crossed the hwy (carefully) and found a slightly hidden set of rock stairs to use to access the lower falls. Gorgeous to see and had a decent amount of water flowing down which I am guessing is based on the recent rain/snowfall last week. Will for sure head back next time and even hike Upper Eagle Falls which is HUGE FOR ME since I am not a hiker but this place inspired me.

A short hike from the parking area beside Highway 89 above Vikingsholm at Emerald Bay, 1/2 hour drive from South Lake Tahoe. Between March and June runoff from Desolation Widerness above the Falls ensures a bountiful flow cascading down the rocks. As the snow pack melts through the summer, there is still ample water flowing down from the snow fields. The bottom terminus of the Falls is beside Vikingsholm mansion. Parking can be problematic on sunny weekends in the Spring.

This is an easy hike, but it is very busy during the summer months. Please do not be those tourists that park on the highway and wander.

I went with my boyfriend to the falls July 2015 and it was a great trip! Short and easy hike, not too crowded. Great views. The only unfortunate thing was that when we got there the falls were hilariously uninspiring because of the drought. I'm sure it's much more impressive now!

View from area of Emerald Bay and rest of lake beautiful. Wear appropriate shoes to be able to climb on rocks.

What a wonderful added adventure to a visit to Vikingsholm! Short hike to some beautiful falls. Trail located behind the visitor’s center. Once on the trail, go past the bridge and continue up on that right side. We arrived to the parking lot early at 8:00, no problem parking! By the time we left at 11:00, cars were waiting for open spots.

We trekked to the falls the day after a snowfall. The snow was pristine with no tracks which made the view of the falls just fantastic! Definitely worth the small little hike from road to falls!

The Eagle falls are a very small hike from the main road. There is parking, but it is paid ($5). But you can park on the main road, which most people do, as the parking lot fills up (even on weekdays). The waterfall has water mainly in the spring. At other times, would recommend doing the hike to Eagle lake, which is about 1 mile one way, but has better views. Don't take the loop, as the vista point is not very good. The hike is pet friendly, and suitable for all ages. Otherwise, good hike and views.

I took my family to see Lower Eagle Falls based solely on Trip Advisor reviews. I had never spent much time in the Tahoe Basin and, therefore, had to rely on the recommendations of other travelers to keep my family occupied. The numerous positive reviews of this little gem were spot on. Although parking is limited (we lucked out when a car pulled out of a spot just as we arrived), the views/waterfall hoping are well-worth the hassle. The kids had a great time wading through the various pools and the adults gawked at the rim-of-the-world views of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay. This is a must-see stop for the nature lover!

Enjoyed the hike, but still would recommend Van Sickly over this one. This trail was a bit more challenging due to all the rock steps going up, but once you got to the viewing areas, Emerald Bay was remarkable. We went on a Saturday and it was very crowded. Parking was the most challenging part of our trip. Could not find a spot in the parking lot so you had to park along the road and then take the 1/2 mile hike to the trailhead from there. Still worth it, but there are other trails that will challenge you physically while giving you almost as great views.

Little hike, steep walk back up. Nowhere to park and had to pull off on the side of the road. Not much water in the falls this time of year but it was still pretty and relaxing. Didn't take long to get there and made the trek back up the hill in about 20 minutes.

this was a short hike to the falls but when we went there was very little water which was disappointing.

You can see the top of the falls from Hwy 89. There's a small parking area.
The whole falls from the bottom is best seen from Emerald Bay SP. If you drive a little further, the parking area is on your right going North. This is a VERY small lot. $10 to get in & apparently it's on the honor system.
Hike 1.7 miles to Vikingsholm & Eagle Falls is .4 miles further. The hike up is steep & rocky. We were there May 13th & there was ice on the trail by the falls. Nice flow in May.
As always, for a peaceful hike go early. The crowds were in force at 0900.

The falls are right at the roadway. They made for a spectacular view of the falls looking down toward the island in Tahoe. At the parking area is also a very short hike to a bridge over some additional falls. The trail consists of tall granite steps but should be fine for any level hiker. The whole Emerald Bay pocket is surrounded by massive mountains and beauty. It is well worth checking out this area.

Very simple walk, but be careful as the falls drop right off. Gorgeous picture spot, and wonderful views of Emerald Bay. Definitely worth the quick peek.

Went out for a brisk morning hike. The views were stunning and the waterfalls were flowing. We went earlier in the morning when very few people were out. On our way back up the trail it was starting to get crowded. We started around 830. Highly suggested.

The trail to the Lower Eagle Falls is immediately ahead of the Emerald Bay viewpoint. It's a two-part hike, the falls come first, and as you continue you reach the lake. We hiked only up to the falls, and it was fairly easy. My husband hiked with our 9-month old son, so you know how doable it was. Some parts of the hike were definitely steep, but again, doable. So don't miss it. We got some great photographs by the falls and from the vista point.
The parking is a major issue. The free parking is on the street (it demands all your parallel parking skills) and very much limited.

If you are traveling in Lake Tahoe and like to hike trails, you definitely should try Eagle Falls. It is a moderate hike with amazing views and the waterfalls are truly beautiful. In the summer time, you can swim in the pools at the top of the lower falls area. The hike is good for all ages and people. Many great places for pictures and relaxing.

This was a very nice well marked short hike to enjoy beautiful trees and a fabulous waterfalls. Pack lots of water.

Here is something the whole family can enjoy together.
Large parking area and a short walk to the falls, do the loop and check out the rock climbers from the top. Picnic tables hidden in the woods if the parents just want to relax and enjoy nature.

We enjoyed an amazing hike with breathtaking views! It was moderate terrain, but nothing too difficult. There were a fair amount of people hiking as well, but it didn't seem crowded. The views are absolutely worth the hike- highly recommend it!

We hiked a mile down the road. Once we got down we did some kayaking and ate our lunch near the lake. Great day!

Parking is difficult if not there early in the day. Great 1/2 day hike to/from the Falls. Can go a lot further if you're prepared with food, tent, etc.

We went there last summer. I just wanna warn people not to even bother. It is not the best thing to waste your day trying to do.

If you drive from south Lake Tahoe , clockwise around the lake following the 89 you come to eagle falls. You know you are there by the parking on the left hand side of the road. There is also a large carpark (with a pit toilet). On one side of the road you can see the waterfall by looking down on it from the road, or by climbing down to see it - wouldn't recommend unless you are quite sure footed. On the other, through the carpark you can find trails, a loop and a path to eagle lake. I found the trail difficult and gave up and sat next to a higher part of the waterfall to wait. (I was struggling with the altitude so breathing was difficult - a point to think about if you are considering hiking up here)
It is beautiful though.
If you drive slightly past - a few yards around the bend, there is another large car park on the Right hand side for the vikingsholm trail. From this carpark you can look back on the lower eagle falls, rather than down on it.

Hiked the trail all the way to Eagle lake, very steep climb, lots of steps, but worth it. And it's easy coming back!

We've seen the upper eagles falls and saw the lower part this time. Very short hike from Vikingsholm castle(you gotta go down to Emerald Bay for this one). Really beautiful, but with all the drough in california there was barely any water.....sad. But still really worth a visit. Theres a brigde that crosses the falls and i think it takes you to a camp ground but we didnt hike that way.

Nice and quick hike. High, sweeping views. Wonderful pics. Very steep going up, may not be so easy for some people. Unfortunately, due to the drought, there are no falls.

It's a short hike to the lower falls, pretty scenery, there are good views of emerald bay for photos if you enjoy photography.

I came here and it was incredibly difficult to find the waterfall to experience. The road up is quite nerve wracking! I did get to 'Inspiration Point' of Eagle Falls that apparently is the most visited spot. There was snow and sun which made it even more beautiful of a view. I really wish there were better signs to help find these spots. Also many areas were closed as well as beaches in the area. Unfortunately restrooms were also all padlocked so keep that in mind.

One of the more easily accessible falls in Lake Tahoe. Parking fills up quickly. Short walk to get to area below bridge, with some rocks and trees to get around. Not difficult.
You can sit next to cliff where the water spills over. We were there in May, so water runoff from snow was still at a good volume.

Once you are able to navigate finding a place to park it is just a short hike to the falls and the bridge. Highly recomend bringing your camera and water and continuing the hike up to the lake above. Lots of breathtaking views and photo opportunities along the way. The hike is not all that bad and definitely worth the effort!

The waterfall is spectacular. It was fun to rock scramble above the falls and the views of Emerald Bay are super.

If you get winded walking up stairs, you will be winded when you get to the Lower Falls. Otherwise, piece of cake!

We hiked to Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake over a weekend. The falls were lovely and the lakefront provided an opportunity to sit and enjoy the scenery. The trail was quite busy, but everyone we encountered was courteous and friendly. I will do this hike again when I return to the area!!

Eagle lake park is right on Hwy 89, once you park, in May, the waterfall near the HWY is large and climbing down makes it better. If you walk less than a mile to the upper bridge, the Eagle Falls really is nice with heavy water flow. Snow is still on the trail that actually takes you to Eagle Lake, it is a mile one way. In the Summer, it is a great hike and swim in the ice cold lake.

Parking is nearby, but fills up quickly. So worth the walk to the overlook! Lots of water flowing with an incredible background.

Waterfalls cascading into Emerald Bay, provides great photo ops.
Parking is a challenge during the summer months and too many visitors during the mid day makes parking a big problem unless your lucky when you arrive and a space is available.

We continued on after hiking down to Vikingsholm. Follow the signs. As someone said in a review it’s 300 BUT only to the First bridge. I’m sure in the Spring you can see water flowing down, but that is NOT the Falls. You’ll see a sign that points .02 miles more to the right. Follow that path & up A LOT of rock stairs. Great area to view the lower Falls. Even with the water low it was still so pretty. I can only imagine how heavy it is in the Spring. The bright sun affected my photos so much :/ not complaining because we could see it well in person & it was an amazingly beautiful day. So in all it’s about .07 of a mile round trip to the Falls not counting the hike to vikingsholm. Just Don’t stop at the first bridge as it continues on to the right.

My husband and I and our two boys have the awesome privilege to call Tahoe home. My husband and I love to get up early to take our coffee and sit at the Falls and watch the sunrise. Still takes my breath away every time. Any time of day this place is truly a beautiful sight not to be missed. Free to park - across the street - be careful as you cross the road ...people speed around the curves..lord knows why as this is a major tourist destination. Early mornings and later evening are the least crowded. Springtime into summer during the runoff they are most powerful. The power of the Falls is awe-inspiring- a true majestic beauty!

Access to Desolation Wilderness area. Dramatic waterfall, good trail. One of Tahoe's historic trails described in Alpine Sierra Trailblazer guidebook. Parking can be full in summer months, best to access early in the day.

So close to emerald bay - if you are already there by boat or took the walk down to see the castle, don't miss these falls.

We took snowshoes with, but didn't have to put them on till reaching the top of the Falls, where we want to explore a little bit of untracked area. Great view of the lake and a perfect spot to enjoy a cool beverage. Beautiful falls in the winter months.

We climbed up to the falls from below after visiting Vikingsholm. The falls was amazing this spring!

Very crowded trail during this time, but very much worth the hike. Stunning views of the falls and Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay. If you do not wish to hike, there are vista points in the area to view the falls. The vast snowmelt this year is produce beautiful waterfalls.

Just steps from the road highway 89 you can enjoy majestic views of Lake Tahoe(Emerald Bay) as well as taking breath taking photos inches from the falls makes this a perfect stop for enjoying Mother Nature.

Easy round trip to bridge and waterfall on well maintained path, some uphill, a couple of seats for a rest. A pretty walk amongst trees, rocks and stream.

Due to heart issues the Tahoe area elevation proved to be a challenge for my cardio capacity, so we focused on easy to moderate hikes of relatively short distances. This turned out to be a decent trail. My wife was fine but I found it taxing at times going uphill. Healthy people will find it fairly easy. But I enjoy hiking and shooting photos. This trail had good views and I was able to find sufficient shade along the way to rest and catch my breath. The falls are not very big and water flow in Aug is not alot but it was still a nice hike and there were good views.

We walked to these beautiful falls early in the morning before it got crowded - worth the hike! Free parking across the street. You can feel the spray from the falls.

We took the trail from Vikingsholm The trail to eagle falls is just to the right of where you buy tickets to visit Vikingsholm. It is not a very long hike and it's pretty well marked however there are a few flights of stairs towards the end of the hike to get to the falls. While you are walking on the trail, you will come to a bridge that is on the left do not take the bridge continue forward on the trail The falls were pretty even though there wasn't a whole lot of water due to the drought

This falls are behind the ticket office for Vikingholms. The falls were not that spectacular. It is just 300 feet from the ticket office so easy walking distance.

Must see if you are in this area, unbelievable views, nature and beautiful trails, the sound of the water is the best. The weather in the summer is incredible, perfect place to bring family and do picnic or camping

These falls are just too much...too scenic and pretty and wild. It can be busy in summer, but still worth a visit.

We went to both the lower falls and the higher falls. Both were beautiful and clean. The trail is both kid and dog friendly but make sure you take water for the hike.

Eagle Falls is a good, quick walk with good view of Lake Tahoe. What makes this stop extra special is Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake is about a 30-40 minute walk from Eagle Falls and is an absolutely gorgeous secluded lake. Might be the single most beautiful spot we visited during our Lake Tahoe vacation. Take the extra time to visit Eagle Lake.

Easy access, trail is moderately strenuous, but the distance is just right and the waterfall and surrounding views are fabulous! Highly recommended. Access to trail is from the Emerald Bay Vista campground.

Lower Eagle Falls consists of two tiers of falls, which my husband and I hiked to separately. We viewed the lower tier by making our way from the Vikingsholm parking lot down to Emerald Bay (1 mile) then taking the 0.3 mile trail from the castle ticket office up to the falls. After returning to our car, we drove to the upper tier of Lower Eagle Falls, parked on the road, and climbed down the rocks for photos. (There may be a trail between the tiers of the falls, but we were not aware of it at the time.) Both sections of the falls are gorgeous and worth a look!

This is a great short hike. Extra parking out by the road. Great area for pictures. We were there with some snow on the ground- not a lot and had fun. Beware of the edges and slipping bc of the snow melting. My kids are 6&8 and loved it.

Breath taking view not a difficult hike. The roar of the water and the piece of the view just wash your stress away.

A fairly easy trail through large sugar pines to an overlook for the falls. A very pleasant walk in the woods!

Near Vikingholm, you'll see a trail that takes you to the Lower Eagle Falls (like 0.2 miles away). If there's water flowing at the top, you'll definitely want to see the Lower Falls up close. Spectacular.

Once again, Trip Advisor was off on the location of this spot... I think they must default to the nearest mailing address rather than the actual physical coordinates. The falls were only steps from the road, some state .2 miles, and that's excessively long. My wife and daughters were able to walk to the falls in flip flops. This is very accessible to anyone with normal mobility, and well worth the few steps

Snow was very spring like, enabling us to get up to the lower falls, they are lovely. Our experience was enhanced by meeting a man who played his wooden instrument. very surreal. it is very pretty and the lake view was amazing.

First of all, there are three different listings on tripadvisor for this same attraction. If you are looking for additional information, you can check out the others (the other reviews are called "Eagle Falls Trail" and "Eagle Falls.") This one is specifically for the Lower Eagle Falls, which can be accessed to the east of highway 89. You can park right on the highway and take a 5 minute walk to see the falls from above. They weren't much to see in early September and were mostly dry. The view of Emerald Bay was still fantastic and was worth the trip.
After visiting Lower Eagle Falls, we decided to hike to Upper Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake as well. It took about 15 minutes to reach the other falls and another 45 minutes or so to reach the lake. The views along the way were spectacular, and the round trip distance was around 2 miles.
If you go with the intention of hiking, you will encounter a sign talking about a back country permit. This is only needed if you decide to hike past the Upper Eagle Falls. If you want to go to Eagle Lake, you will need a permit. You can fill one out right at the trail head and there is no cost to do so. There are also some chemical toilets available at the trail head.
It is possible to park in a designated state parking area, but this will cost you $5. If you park by the highway there is no fee. Just make sure to follow signs showing you where you can't park. We arrived around 10:00 AM on a Sunday and were able to find a spot. On busier summer weekends, you may wish to arrive earlier.

The 1st time there we didn't stay long but a few days later we spent more time there. It was beautiful after a day of snow on the ground.

lovely waterfall overlooking lake Tahoe. We went on to Eagle lake which was also a great hike. We arrived early to find a parking spot in the small car park. It's a popular hike so go early.

We found the falls when we had walked down the Emerald Bay trail right next to it. There seemed to be steep steps for at least part of the way, so we chose to go back up on the gravel trail. Very, very pretty--you can walk on a bridge over it. There is a hairpin highway (89) that must be driven to get to it.

Lower Eagle Falls overlooks beautiful Emerald Bay. The views from this vantage point are breathtaking.

The hike is about 20-30 minutes from the trailhead. There are lots of rocks, up and downs, so wear a good pair of shoes or boots. Beware after rain or when snow is present, the rocks are very slippery! Once you get up to the falls, the views are spectacular. Snap some photos, have a picnic and enjoy nature.

Enjoy a quick easy hike to Lower Eagle Falls; extend the hike for 25-30 minutes to Eagle Lake which feeds the falls.

There may be more than one trail going to Lower Eagle Falls but my wife and I took the trail that passes by Vikingsholm. Park at the Vikingsholm parking lot (fee) and take the one mile trail down to the home. Go past the home on the right and stay right of the visitor's center. Continue on that trail up to the falls (about one-quarter mile). The trail can get a little narrow but easy to climb and worth the view.

Got to take your camera and explore all the views that you'll experience along the trail. The experience will fill a lifetime of memories and at the bottom of the trail, you'll discover the residence of the lady who owned Emerald Bay at the Turn of the Century. The family donated the property years late for all the public to see and enjoy. I still get goose bumps every time I thing of Lower Eagle Falls. Don't forget to take a picture of the falls!

Beautiful stunning scenery. Bit of a hike to get there but so worth it.Take some water with you for your hike back up again.

My husband and I are in our late 50's and 60's and in moderately good shape. We had no problem hiking from Vikingsholm to the lower Eagle Falls. There are a couple of different viewing areas. Be sure to hike to several as the falls looks different from each point. As some other reviewers mentioned, the parking at the top of the Vikingsholm road is very busy and congested. We waited about 20 minutes until someone vacated a parking spot. There was also a small fee to park in the lot. From the parking lot, it is a fairly easy one-mile walk DOWNHILL on a dirt/gravel road to Vikingsholm and the beginning of the short Eagle Falls trail. Of course, to return to your car, you must make the one-mile UPHILL walk which is a bit daunting on a hot summer day. Take your time and rest in the shade of the trees along the way. Well worth the effort to see both Vikingsholm and the Eagle Falls!

The stair step style hike was difficult for very young children and unfortunately this year there wasn't any water to create a waterfall.

Whenever we travel to Lake Tahoe we must always visit Eagle Falls and Emerald Bay. The site is kept spotless and it is always green in the Spring and in the Fall. It is easy to walk around and there are so many beautiful angles to view from that one never tires of being there. Even just sitting near the falls and hearing the water rushing into the bay is a delightful experience.

Eagle Falls is nice and very easy to get view. The views of Emerald Bay are fantastic. It is a short hike though so no need to spend a ton of time there.

This is a beautiful waterfall. You can see the upper portion from the road, but from the ground/beach level you can walk back to the top. There are numerous photo spots along the trail, and at the top you can feel the mist.

The water is really flowing and the view is terrific. The only issue is the parking- there is not nearly enough and it is a little dicey with all the folks having to park along the road and walk in.

Beautiful view, It is definitely worth the trip and short hike, These memories and pictures last a lifetime!

In the August dry heat the falls are not as heavy as they would normally be but still lovely anyway.

beautiful falls :) got a better view of it's beauty just down the road at next park viewing site. at the falls you had a great view of the lake also.

We went late summer. Easy to find and great walk. We parked on the road (with everyone else) and walked down. Great views of Emerald Lake too

We had a wonderful time hiking and enjoying the waterfall. The most water I have ever seen in the fall this in June. Best time is early morning to avoid the crowds and get close parking. $3.00 if you use the lot but there is alot of off road parking adjacent to the lot, if you are early or mid week.

We first saw the falls from the viewpoint at the Vikingsholm parking lot. We didn't think we'd be able to hike to the falls with our 2 year old son but we noticed the falls and drove back later to see them up close. If you park on the side of the road it is a very short and easy walk down to the falls. I'm not sure what part of the falls we were in but there is a fallen tree and right past it you can see the start of the falls and hike down as far as you want from there. With our two year old we did not hike so far down but we still got incredibly close to the falls and water and it was a worthwhile experience.

Wrong time to go to the waterfall. It was more like a stream. The hike was not bad, but really not worth the time. I believe it’s better to go in like April.

We lost but its worth it. We missed the exit going to lake tahoe blvd and we ended up to beautiful eagle falls in emerald highway. Cars were everywhere and try to catch the beautiful view of the lake and the falls. Worth it to drive and you will enjoy every view from the road.

A short walk distance from the shore of Emerald Bay.
Placed in very interesting spot. You can hear it from the distance.
During the winter may not be accessible(watch the slippery stairs!).
If you have a chance go and see the falls!

DOn't bother going to this it is not that worth it. I would recommend eagle falls 100 percent over this one.

Our go to hike for guests to our house in Lake Tahoe. This is a quick easy hike up to the Eagle Falls. The scenery is beautiful and the falls and views of Lake Tahoe were great. People swim in the pools at the base of the falls. You can continue up the trail to Eagle Lake but the trail gets a bit more challenging. It is worth it.

Was there at the end of the summer so the water flow was low but it is a beautiful area, nice hike, and the biggest problem in the summer is parking. Get there early.

The Lower Eagle Falls is a beautiful and easy hike (about 50-60 steps). With the record snowfall, there was plenty of water coming down the waterfall.
The Lower Eagle Falls loop should take 15-20 minutes. You can continue on to Eagle Lake, a moderate hike, which is about another 25-30 minutes (one way). You can go for about 10 minutes and reach the "rocks". A lot of people go this far and return.
Parking is difficult. We arrived around 9:10 am (Saturday) and the lots were full. Parking along the side the of road is OK, but be sure that you are not in a No Parking Zone. We saw cars being ticketed.

Short hike to the falls and the view is probable the best in Lake Tahoe. Bring a lunch and set on the beach, pure serenity !!

This was a short diversion before our Vikingsholm tour. The water flow was pretty small this summer. I'm sure when it's higher the falls are much prettier.

This was an easy hike with gorgeous views. Even in July, without heavy runoff, the scenery was awesome. Highly recommend!

You can access the top of the waterfall right from the road. The falls were gorgeous and had a great view of Emerald Bay!

When you finally get parked, this is a brilliant short hike to the falls. Trail is a series of steps, and probably OK without trainers/boots. Trail forms a loop, with a lookout point.
This is part of a longer trail to Eagle lake, which I did. Track is rough - trainers/boots essential. You are asscending quite steeply at about 7500ft, so be prepared for a few breath breaks! Eagle lake when you get there is worth it! Hike is two miles total.

We went there today, The road to get there has no guard rails for the most part and its narrow. people park all over the road making it dangerous. Bike riders dont help.
We were fortunate to get a state park spot and paid the 10.00. the falls are 1.6 miles roughly from top to bottom and then up again 1/2 way. You must go back down to go up. Fit bit had me at 57 flights and 9k steps. going down is great, going up, ugh. Water falls sprinkle the trails and they are cool to stop at with the shadows and water mist.. Its a great trip but dont rush it.

Parking is a drag when it is busy, but well worth it! Make sure you hike all the way up to the lake.

The trail is steep but worth seeing the Eagle Falls. It was running fast, due to spring melt off, and was beautiful!

Lower eagle falls easy to access from highway, parking at eagle falls trailhead - cross the highway and short hike down. Beautiful views of emerald cove from lower falls access. Plan to hike up to eagle falls - easy hike up to bridge (steep steps right before bridge). If you have enough time - plan to continue up to eagle lake (45-60 minutes further) worth the hike - beautiful crystal mountain top lake with snow peaked mountains in background. Take your lunch - perfect picnic spot. We saw children 6 and older doing the hike. Remember to park only in designated areas - we were told they will tow your car!!!

As you head towards Emerald Bay, plan on going a little bit further. The official parking lot is on your left side if headed towards Truckee,Ca. The parking lot is really small, so parking along the road is your best bet. The falls are nice, and a great little pool area just next to the bridge for the water seeker, as it flows before going over the falls. I hiked around on all sides, and got great views and pictures. The main parking area is more for day hikers, plus there's a $5.00 per vehicle fee. The stream flows through the state park, but limits your access due to brush. You can hike in for the upper falls, but I didn't do so. Bring your camera, the falls are stunning! My review was done after an epic winter snowpack of 2017, so the water was good even in mid August.

This is one of the best views in Tahoe. Great views, close to waterfalls and not to hard. Highly recommend

I got shots of the falls from the Emerald State Park overlook. We did walk the trails a bit, but this waterfall is stunning no matter what vantage point.
** August is a nightmare for parking along the whole highway.

If you are in the area, don't miss these falls. They are beautiful. We walked the mile down to Vikingsholm (wear appropriate footwear and be ready for a steep hike), toured it and then walked the half mile or so to the base of the falls. Beautiful!

Prettty steep hillside if you want to go down to take pictures of the falls, so wear good shoes! Not for people that are out of shape, the elderly, or for very small children!

It was very hot this June in Lake Tahoe and we needed a shorter hike. Lower Eagle Falls was very easy to walk too and beautiful. If you want to climb higher you can but to see the lower Falls it was only a five minute walk.

I showed up early in the morning about 6:30 a.m. to capture the magnificent sunrise and to assure free parking. If you don't show up early you will have a hard time finding parking or no parking at all. If you have never been to the Lower Eagles Falls go early so you can have time to explore the area at a relaxed pace. Make sure your wear comfortable hiking shoes and take your camera. The sunrises are spectacular and the sun rises at different parts of the horizon depending what time of year you visit. There are may trails that will take you to various areas which will give you the opportunity to view the falls from different angles. Again the best time to visit the area is in the spring time if you want to experience the falls at their most spectacular with the spring
runoff . But of course anytime is great, you won't be disappointed. Take your time so you can truly enjoy the beauty of the area.

Stunning views of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe Beautiful rushing waterfall coming from the snowpack from the high elevation peaks above!

This is a short hike up to the falls. You do need to be in shape for this trail. It is beautiful. Be prepare for little rain and mist.

It is a very beautiful falls. We were lucky to get a place to park in the parking lot. It is a rough walk be sure to wear enclosed shoes. It is not a far walk ,but it is rocky. Make it to the bridge for some beautiful pictures.

Worth the hike, this is a beautiful waterfall. Parking around the trail is very difficult. Take lots of water as the trail isn’t so easy climbing back up.

I visit lower Eagle Falls multiple times a year. The view from above lower Eagle Falls next to HWY 89 is amazing. There is however a somewhat hidden trail to the left of the falls, that will guide you down to a view that is like no other.I Do Not recommend this trail for anyone under 16 or over 60.It is short but requires some balancing and flexible maneuvering .As seen in my photo, you will get a view like no other.Enjoy and please Be safe.

The falls are beautiful and a short hike from the parking lot. When we were there the small parking lot was full and it appeared that was often the case. Initially, the hike is steep, but the trail is well maintained. For more adventurous hikers, there is a longer trail that leaves from the falls.

The trail that leads to these falls is a little out-and-back which starts from the Vikingsholm visitor center. You first come across a smaller falls and a little bridge, but if you continue on up the hill, you'll see the main falls. When I first saw it my jaws literally dropped because I was not expecting its scale. Totally worth the 15 min climb!

The hike down is well maintained; it is a 500 ft elevation back up in 1 mile. Be prepared for this uphill return. Parking is an issue. Arrive early or late afternoon.

You have to make it here. It is so worth it. The steps can be a bit steep from the visitors bay but trust me it's only 0.4 miles and worth every step. My first thought "there truly is a God " once I saw the views from a distant. It is very calming and serene. We got there after 3p so there was no one but us and the falls....

Not a difficult hike. Many different places to view the falls. Get there early to get a parking spot.
Impressive
If you are hiking to Vikingsholm, the falls are a must. Despite low water levels everywhere else, the falls were impressive.
