Always great to see Lynx lake

By jeffj380 |

Just outside of town - lake is low, but offers great views and hiking. Offers great picnic areas and parking.

Beautiful lake

By FoxValleyGal |

I hike here on the weekends, there is a nice, easy hike around the lake which is predominately in the shade. Dog friendly - on leash and please scoop. Parking is $5 for the day and they have an odd little pay station, but be sure you put your tag on your mirror or dash, because I've seen them tow cars! Cafe up there is very good too.

Great Hangout Place

By Rich O |

Good place to wet your kayak and explore all the nooks of the shoreline. Or take the circle hiking path all the way around (about a 90 minute hike). Picnic or hit the German restaurant at the top of the hill (check their times).

beautiful spot just to relax or fish or hike

By Don L |

Beauty and Serene

By MaryB0505 |

Lynx Lake is beautiful. The hiking is serene and offers options for long or short routes. Access to the lake is easy and makes for a great kayaking option.

Summer Fun at Lynx Lake

By Lee A |

It was toasty the week we camped at Lynx Lake. We looked forward to launching our boat only to discover that there is no dock on the public launch which makes putting a larger boat in difficult. We were disappointed.

The trail around the lake was enjoyable and could be accessible for most visitors. The lake is in an absolutely beautiful setting with Ponderosa pines surrounding it.

The campground is nicely laid out although there are few, if any, sites with shade. There are restroom facilities with running water, but no showers. At Loop E the potable water was not functioning and those folks had to walk to another loop for their water.

The camp sites are well maintained with pavement for your camper, RV or trailer. Each site is configured with a picnic bench and steel fire pit welll situated to protect the surrounding vegetation. There are multiple trails to get to the lake trail as well as other trails. It's really a great place for hiking and enjoying the great outdoors.

A pleasant lakeside hike

By John E |

We did a short hike along the trail that goes down to the lake from near the Lynx Lake Cafe. There is a kayak/canoe rental point about 1/4 mile along the trail. Places to fish. Benches to rest. A beautiful day with lovely views/

Lovely stroll around the lake

By Diane K |

We enjoyed our walk by the lake. The lake is part of Prescott National Forest - so if you have a senior pass you can put that on your dash as your parking pass (and save $5 fee). There are two parking areas by the lake - across the lake from each other. On one side of the lake the path is very well maintained. It takes about 40 minutes to walk leisurely from one parking lot to another. So plan on a little over an hour to walk back and forth. Many nice spots to enjoy nature and take pics. Also very clean and nice bathrooms.

Peaceful paved path lake view

By 188virginias |

Thewater level of the lake was full. It was peaceful with lots of people fishing. We walked half way counter clockwise from the north and had shade at 4pm. Several non motorized boots on the lake and for rent.

Relaxing on the lake.

By Mark J |

We stopped by the lake to relax after a busy couple days in town. Decided to hire a boat and cruise the the lake for a while. We got a boat with a little electric motor/trolling motor and just set about slowly making our way around the lake. Beautiful setting, very quiet as they don't let gas powered boats on the lake!! Got some beautiful pictures for memories and would highly recommend to locals and visitors.

Lots of hiking

By Linnae55089 |

The lake was low but the trails were fun to hike. We did a walk around the lake which was a nice one hour jaunt.

LOVELY LITTLE HIKE

By pdbarry1946 |

My husband and I were looking for an easy hike and found it here. The trail around the lake is 3 miles and very east to do. (no climbing to speak of). We've been here before and we are never disappointed in the views. We saw a bald eagle the last time we visited. We had been doing a lot of hiking so this was a great respite. Our golden pass for the national parks worked here for the day fee.

Close to Prescott and Prescott Valley

By Fred D |

The Highlands Center for Natual History was enjoyable and well laid out. The Jame Family Discovery Garden is accessible and well designed, There are two other trails is you have the time. Nice bookstore and meeting room. A gem of a stop; no admission on weekdays.

Best restaurant around!!

By amycakesnj |

You absolutely have to eat at the restaurant at Lynx Lake. Great service and the absolute best chicken and waffles!

Interesting

By sshs3 |

Average food but beside a lake….we will visit again just for ambiance…not for food. Crowded on a Sunday for lunch!

Nice peaceful setting for walking, hiking....also a boat ramp.

By Roger H |

A nice peaceful setting for walking, hiking or just sitting beside the water and relaxing. Our Golden Retriever enjoy watching the ducks.

Beautiful lake

By EvieB |

We took an easy and leisurely hike around the lake . It was lovely with lots of birds and outstanding scenery

Camping

By Just saying |

Went camping at Lynx Lake Campground in Prescott, AZ. Although it is beautiful there, the fact that there is no swimming is a bit sad since that's part of the fun of camping when it's hot but the fact that the camp hosts baton down their own hatches at the supposed quite hours between 10pm and 6am without even doing a one time drive thru is a bit surprising. It's definitely a free for all while their snug as bugs in their site. People were loud, campers were yelling for them to shut up which we were sure was going to end in a fight, and we even saw some stupid women with a whole bunch of kids break out "sparklers", light them and hand them to little kids in the friggin forest 😨. After seeing me with my phone and saying out loud I was calling the sheriff she told the kids..."funs over kids, I have a trunk full of fireworks but I guess we can't shoot them off". I told the hosts in the morning as we were leaving just in case those people were planning on lighting them after we left but they didn't even mention it to the idiots. All they could say is "we're not law enforcement so if somebody is disturbing the peace you can always call the Sheriff". Really, without phone service in the area that might be a little difficult...besides, isn't that their job or is it just to collect our dollars and not care about safety?? We won't be going back.

Spectacular views and hike

By psychodoctor |

Beautiful lake and hiking. Great cafe to have lunch. Pet friendly. Some trails are paved. Biking trails available. A must do when visiting Prescott !!

Challenging and rocky

By Ishpudejko |

Somehow someone forgot to tell us how rocky and challenging the trail around the lake was near one of the ends. We literally had to use our hands and slide on our butt a few times. I think most people just go forward and back on the same trail without going all the way around. Overall, a scenic and enjoyable hike. I think we did close to 3 miles.

Beautiful lake in the pines and oaks

By donnab |

A GREAT lake to take a walk sit under a tree and enjoy the sights and sounds of the lake. (Ducks, geese, birds, deer visit often)

Lake in the Pines

By Gary S |

Just outside of the city lies a beautiful lake in the pines. Boating is available but limited to human powered or electric motors. The lake is stocked throughout the year for fishing and there are picnic tables to enjoy your lunch. There is a restaurant on the shore that specializes in German food. The lake tends to be quite busy in the summer so the best time to visit will be the morning. There are campgrounds close to the lake if you would like to camp and have a good time. The lake and campgrounds require a fee to enjoy the day but it is very minimal.

Disappointing after Watson Lake

By Anne T |

We did a Prescott lake tour, and started with Watson Lake. That made our visit to Lynx Lake a bit of a disappointment. It's not nearly as scenic, and the views are not as spectacular. But it was a very nice lake. There are lots of camping areas, and there were several people fishing. There appeared to be a nice trail around the lake. We would go back again, though, and check out some of the other activities - maybe even pan for gold!

Charming Lake, Good Hike

By tessa3381 |

If you are visiting Prescott this is a must-do. The short drive to the lake on Walker Road is very scenic with a lot of other hiking trails. There are two entrances at each end of the lake. Once at the Lynx Lake Recreation area parking costs $5 unless you have a National Park Pass (free on Wed). Parking passes are required if you don't want a ticket. The hiking path around the lake is moderately and well maintained. Eat at the Lynx Café when you are done for great German and American food.

Fun and beautiful lake!

By Debbie S |

We stopped in to the cafe for a quick beer and lunch Easter weekend. The service was great, the food was too and we could have our dog with us (outside at the picnic tables) while we ate. Fun folks! We'll be back to fish and enjoy the water soon!

First time visit

By Brian D |

Great afternoon hike. Popular destination for locals and visitors. I was there Wednesday and found out there is no charge to visit on Wednesdays. Nice trail that loops around the lake. Short distance from town.

easy drive , nice lake

By Kathie M |

This is a National Park, so be sure to bring your pass or go on a Wednesday, when all lakes are free. This was the only lake you can swim in at the time we were there. Nice

One of our favorite lakes in AZ

By ThisFamilyTravels |

Each time that we travel to Prescott, we always stop at Lynx Lake, even if it's just for a few minutes. Beautiful lake with pine trees and shade. Clean picnic areas and gently sloping shore (good for kids/pets). The "crowd" has always been friendly. This time, a caravan of forest service firefighters were eating lunch in the shade. My kids love to catch crawdads here and just relax. Wonderful spot, esp. since it's quiet due to the lack of boats. Kayakers welcome.

QUITE AND SENIC

By IAM576 |

We went to the picnicking area over looking lake. We saw osprey and number of small birds. Very easy to get to this lake.

Easy drive with beautiful scenery.

By Snobuz78 |

Near Prescott, easy drive, with nice views, good parking, nice walking trails, met some friendly people. Plenty of wildlife for everyone to enjoy. Good parking, facilities were clean with easy access.

Pleasant walk

By bayridge2011 |

Only paved side of lake available for hiking. Lots of birds. Good opportunity for photography. Walked to waterfall as well

Great for a day trip or rving

By Kathy S |

Did a drive with my uncle showing us the sights. We took off the next day and did a lot more exploring.

Nice Family Place

By Boomer |

Nice lake with picnic sites, fishing from the shore, boat rentals, a hiking path around the lake and plenty of parking. On the north shore is a nice restaurant. Keep your eyes open for the eagles that nest there.

Great hiking and canoeing!

By Gabby A |

This small lake has a two mile hiking trail around the lake, great views and nice picnic areas on the south side of the lake. Very relaxing area with a small restaurant on site.

Great outdoor recreation spot

By Michelle G |

Been camping and hiking here several times. The hike around the lake is about 2 miles and fairly easy - just one or two rocky spots. Cafe is good when it's open - but only open Thursday to Sunday. Southshore boat picnic area is nice and well maintained. Biggest plus is only about 10 minutes off the main highway but that also means it's pretty busy and crowded on summer weekends.

Beautiful views but sad you can't swim

By Modernmagi |

Really nice views at this lake on both sides of access area, is nice that it's so quiet and just a few paddlers and kayakers. No kayaking going on now with Covid the business that does that is avoiding it and good for them, nice to see SOME businesses in Prescott being safe. Disappointing that swimming isn't allowed.

Perfect for a picnic

By Ivo F |

Lynx lake is the best place for a picnic. They have BBQ places with tables and the area is perfect for hiking or an easy walk around the lake.

Beautiful and peaceful spot to hike and enjoy the wildlife

By pattippdx |

This is one of my favorite places to hike in Prescott. There is lots of wildlife to observe including many types of birds. This is an easy hike as it is fairly flat.

One day fun trip with Family to enjoy nature , lake, hiking and boating.

By Nitin Nikhare |

On Memorial day, I thought to have some fun with Family and then finalized plan to visit Lynx lake. One of my friends recommended this place to me. Although I started around 10:10 from Glendale, AZ reached to Lynx lake by 11:45 AM.

As per my friend advice , we decided to go to the south shore of the lake and park out the car there. When we reached to the parking lot, it was full but we got the parking within 10 mins. Paid $5 for Parking lot. We started roaming around south shore lakeside and enjoyed all beautiful surrounding. After having some snacks , we started our trail hiking towards North shore . It's around 1.5 miles. On the way to , you can enjoy nature , birds , lakeside , ducks as well scenic views of lake. After an hour we reached to North shore side and booked electric boat for 4 @ $22 for an hour. It's all worth to take boat ride and enjoy. After boat ride , we came back to south shore and had our late meal.

After resting for 45 mins , we started our return journey to Glendale. We spent around 5 hours and enjoyed it with Family ( Kids with Age of 13 and 8 ). You can enjoy fishing , boating as well as you can bring your own boat too. Please ensure to bring food and chairs with you as there is nothing to buy at south shore. Only one cafe is available at north shore ( boat Rental place ).

Overall it's fabulous day spending with Mother nature and family. It's worth to visit Lynx lake.

Lynx Lake Picnic

By BillPNo1 |

In October we had a Family Reunion picnic and BBQ at Lynx Lake. What a great venue for a large family get-together! The picnic site was perfect for our needs; the lake was beautiful, the weather was perfect; and the facilities well-kept and perfectly suited for us.
The little ones were kept busy skipping stones in the lake and/or fishing from the bank while some of the adults ventured onto the paths and trails around the lake.

A Great Day and a Good Time was had by all.

Beautiful spot

By dean4744 |

Nice small lake in the tall pine. There is a great place to eat with a view of the lake and boat rental.

You can walk your dog on the trails You can camp over nite in the campgrounds You are close to shopping areas

Beautiful landscape and perfect for boating, hiking, and fishing

By Odysseydelux |

A deeply wooded surrounding and pristine lake, Lynx Lake seems a very popular place for local families. Many are kayaking, boating, fishing, picnicing, hiking, or just relaxing. But the place is big enough that it doesn't feel crowded. I did a very fast-paced walk around the lake, which is probably 3-4 miles. It is fairly easy to navigate, and great picture-worthy views everywhere

Cool and relaxing

By Spud1048 |

Nestled in the forest but very near the mall, this gem in the pines is a good place to relax and chill on a hot summer day. A short trail around the lake is mostly shaded and a good leg stretch.

Beautiful area

By Matnjul |

We loved to do the hike around the lake. Easy hike for a 55+. A very nice area. Nice day areas as well as overnight camping. Oh and fishing!

Sunday Brunch with a Lake View

By Safari743763 |

I hesitate to review this because I don't want it to get too crowded, but the short drive through the pines to this little hideaway restaurant is worth the trip if you like rustic decor, a lake view, and moderately priced yummy food. Some interesting German dishes sprinkled in with the usual burgers, sandwiches and breakfast menu items.

On Eagles Wings

By Grandma1962 |

To rest on a bench and watch the eagles soar will restore your soul. The trail around this beautiful high mountain lake will refresh your body. The south entrance has access to Picnic Tables. The trail along the westerly shore is suitable for wheelchair and strollers.

pleasant place on a warm autumnal Day

By Stephen N Erica D |

We visited this lake on a weekday and enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the lake, enjoying the birds and fish we saw and the trees and general surroundings.

It was quiet and refreshing and we could see it would be a great place for fishing, boating, picnicking or even a little boating.

Smaller lake

By UKVISIT |

Its a smaller lake but nice for a paddle. I think they also had rentals but we had our own. We tried to do all the lakes in Prescott over 2 days.

One of many great lakes in Prescott!

By azmove |

Through the years we have taken the Grandchildren on the little boats, fished, hiked and eaten at the restaurant at Lynx lake. It is an enjoyable and easy hike around the lake and great for desert dwellers to be around the water. We fished, did not catch a thing, although we used Trader Joe's hot dogs for bait?!?!? The kids had fun! We love Prescott and find the 1.5 hour ride from the Scottsdale just right to get out of the Valley.

Walk around the lake

By Nicola W |

Beautiful area and fun place to walk. Keep your eye out for various species of wild life. In the summer you can rent kayaks and small canoes

Place to relax

By urso777 |

Take a walk around the lake. If it is winter time you maybe a lucky enough to sight an eagle or two. There is a trail that goes around the lake that is about 2 miles long and is a great hike.

Nice for a stroll

By dt95 |

Pretty lake with a nice walking path. Goes all the way around when water is not too high. It was too high for our visit so could not walk across the dam.

Beautiful lake

By Kenneth J |

There is a nice beach at one end of the lake, and a place to rent row boats at the other end.
A pleasant path to walk around the lake, taking about 2 hours.
Often see ducks, cormorants, eagles

Couldn't get all the way around the lake

By Holly S |

We had read that the trail went all the way around but when we started out going left we were met with water too deep to traverse over. So we reversed our path and went the other way. Half way around someone was coming from the other way and said that she and her husband could not get around that way and he was exhausted (not a difficult trail AT ALL, I think his health was failing) and she was going back for the car. There are two parking lots on this lake one on each end. So we walked about half way around and since it was cold that day and I had failed to bring adequate clothing, we turned and went back. The lake itself is really beautiful from the ledge above at the parking lot we were in.

Great day out!

By Pearlbug2000 |

Easy hike around the lake and breathtaking scenery. End your hike with scrumptious faire from the Lynx Lake Café. And on Saturday they specialize in German food!

Fun trail

By Ronald B |

Fun, easy, scenic, and educational all rolled into one. Watch the trail for bikers as they come flying through. Saw a lynx running along the creek bed. How fun is that?

Lovely

By n0sn0girl |

We went during the week when it was mostly quiet. (There was a group of noisy teens kayaking between 4 and 6) We loved walking around the lake trail. It wasn't too steep or difficult. Just the right length. Kayaking was peaceful. And they have a great area for a picnic. It cost $5 per car for a day entry fee but well worth it.

Easy and Beautiful Trail

By IlliniTrav |

This review is for the Lynx Lake Loop Trail. We parked at the North lot, and did the hike counter clockwise. A fee is required to park in the lot.
We were in search of fall colors in early November. The woods here are mostly tall pines, but there are some deciduous trees that provided a bit of autumn color. Nice views of the lake too, although it appeared that the water level was down substantially.
The trail on the west side of Lynx Lake is mostly paved, while the trail on the east side is not. We hiked this trail on a weekday morning, and there were very few people.

Pretty but west side is way easier to walk than East side.

By Jan K |

Parked at North end. Easy walk/hike on west paved side with lovely views and partially shaded. But the east side coming back is nowhere close to as easy. It's dirt and curvy and slightly hilly with a handful of steepish drops. Certainly not good for slightly older or any sort of disability. Good gazebo sitting areas on south end. If I did it again I'd stay on the west side!

lynx lake

By Carlana S |

fishing is only good in certain spots you'll have to walk around the lake to find them. trails are great and people are friendly

The lake

By Hassan Alqassab |

Actually it’s pretty beautiful lake with nice view and good places to hangout for the day with friends and family there is so many people I saw finishing and hiking there

Nice day for a hike

By Partera60 |

We first tried hiking at Highland but some of the trails are closed for renovation and the gift shop closed on Monday. Very sad about that and other folks also pulled in looking for the shop. So we headed to the Lynx Lake National Forest parking lot and proceeded to walk around the entire lake. It took about 1.5 hours and we lost the trail a couple times, but it was so worth it on this gorgeous Spring day

Beautiful views - nothing more majestic to see than an american bald eagle in flight!

By avilesraul91 |

Beautiful lake for swimming, hiking and picnics. I did a day trip and was absolutely gorgeous and fun.Worth to pay the entrance fee.

Dam nature is intriguing!

By Juanito Diamanté |

My wife & I are doing a house/horse sit in Prescott, Arizona & we’ve taken the liberty to explore the surrounding areas for outdoor recreational use. Located just below Walker is a dam that was constructed in 1952 whose ancillary creation is Lynx Lake. Situated inside the Prescott National Forest the recreational possibilities include hiking, boating fishing & gold panning. We took one of the trails covering the circumference of the lake (a little more than an an hour at a moderate pace) & enjoyed the natural beauty of this unnatural formation. Our most exciting sighting was a great blue heron lurking in the reeds & taking flight with its magnificent wingspan. A must visit when your in Yavapai County, Arizona.

Nice Walking Area

By AZTraveler |

Lynx Lake is a very nice place to walk any time of the year. The scenery is warm and welcoming. For the most part the walking trail is very easy to walk and well maintained.

Pretty little lake

By michael m |

This lake is an attraction to fisher folks and canoeists. There are some hiking trails in the area. It's pretty enough. And there is camping available. None of these are standouts in the area, though none are awful either. If you have the time, it's a nice place to visit, but nowhere the peak of Prescott area outdoor locations.

Lovely Lake!!

By oliverpeat |

We visited Lynx Lake for the fist time while on vacation with the family. We all loved it. The lake and surrounding trails were clean. We encountered many friendly hikers. Plenty of shade on the paved trails. We bought some cheap rods and rented a boat and took the fishing. Didn't catch anything, but whose fault is that? Kids had a blast and will go back on next visit.

camping and fishing trip

By AZ_Travel_Lover |

I have camped at Lynx Lake a number of times. I have camped at both campgrounds and have nothing bad to say about either! the tent pads are level and large, the bathrooms are cleaned by the hosts daily and there is water available on site. you are only a few miles from Walmart when you inevitably need batteries or s'mores fixings but are immersed in the national forest. I've seen skunks, deer and bald eagles in the area...

wonderful nature trails

By Richard P |

This is very easy to get to. It has good fishing if you get there very eary. The trails are good for oldsters and kids alike.

Serene

By demoon57 |

Beautiful, calm and serene. A no wake lake, great for kayaking and fishing. But I didn't see any fish being caught. Poor fishermen or not very well stocked. Hmmm... Went the day after Labor Day, no crowds, but the bathrooms at the south end where the camp grounds are located were still suffering from the weekend onslaught. P. U. highly aromatic. The north end bathrooms were clean with no undesirable odors and we met one very nice park host. We hiked all the way around the lake, very easy beginner level. One side is completely paved, great for walking your dogs. The other side is not paved, backwoods type trail. We encountered bees on the wild flowers, lots of lizards and butterflies and one garter snake. Finished up with a nice picnic lunch.

Great hiking!

By Rhea A |

Lynx Lake is a super place to hike. I have hiked here many times, and it is fairly flat, with a few inclines around hills. No mountains, though. The hike takes you arounds the western side of the lake, for the easiest trail. We always start at the Lynx Lake German Restaurant, which has wonderful German schnitzel. Then there are public bathrooms at each end of the lake. And the hummingbirds, dragonflies, and ducks are awesome!! Love it.

So much fun

By Amy L |

What a lovely surprise to find this beautiful lake and restaurant so close to Prescott. It was a charming little restaurant overlooking the beautiful lake. The staff and service was amazing. The menu offers German food and was surprisingly good. There was a very nice man playing the piano during dinner. Was just a really nice evening out.

Picturesque Small Lake in the Pines

By Michael H |

Very picturesque small lake in the pines. We hiked half way around the lake shore. Lots of people fishing from the shore.

Great walk around the lake

By Deirdre H |

Walking next to a beautiful lake surrounded by pine trees makes for a perfect morning in Prescott. Next time we will rent SUPs and paddle around the lake.

Go on wednesdays..free addmission!

By Gumbas |

Good walking trails, and nice lake views from the parking area too. Also good fishing if you have a license!

Beautiful!

By Lauren F |

Had a picnic here for my fiancé's birthday on our way into Prescott. Such beautiful scenery... and good bird watching!

Beautiful views

By xnycop |

Very easy to get to from Prescott. Views are very scenic and beautiful. Lots of Kayaks in the lake. Picnic areas. Lots of parking. All in all a very nice place to spend a day.

Hiking around lake

By Travel683725 |

This is a great trail, half paved. One of my favorites also a great place to have a picnic! Make sure you pay. The daily fee or if a senior have your pass displayed.

Nice setting, very clean

By Rob M |

For some exercise I hike around Lynx's Lake, I suppose 2 - 3 miles overall. On the entire trail I saw no litter or rubbish. Lake is really beautiful and peaceful during my visit.

Great safe place to walk

By Karen F |

I always keep my hiking boots in the car so that if I have a smart 50 minutes I can take chance to have a quick two mile power walk around this lovely lake. Usually, walking alone it is very important to me to be safe. The Indian Ruins are also a delightful short flat walk that offers beautiful views. There are nice clean picnic tables and grills positioned at numerous places around the park. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful place to enjoy

Hike Around the Lake

By HappyCamper20732 |

We took a large and small dog to hike around this beautiful lake. The trail is a little rough in spots but good shoes and a little patience will see you through. The picnic grounds are lovely and payment is honor system.

Quick Stop

By VailAZTraveler |

We spent just a little while driving around and checking out various spots at the lake. Took a few pictures and planned a future visit to stay here longer. Great area around the lake and right in Prescott. Camping areas look great - nice and quiet. Return trip coming soon !

Went for a hike

By Shawnnita M |

This lake is very quit and a nice place to walk around the only thing I did not like was the paddle boats were available for use.

What a neat area!

By BSJ3258 |

I used to come here all the time when I was growing up living in the Prescott area. Had to come back and visit the lake again while we were visiting. Really a neat area. Not sure if they still do the renting of the paddle boats here or not. Where we approached the lake it was not in that area. Just minutes off of Route 69, easy to get to, easy to access.

Beautiful!

By jasonjasonjasonjason |

Go on Wednesdays for free because paying to park is stupid. Excellent to walk around the lake. Pretty birds.

Hike/paddle

By Wrldtraveler |

We hiked around near Lynx Lake for 2+ hours. Very nice trail. The 2nd time we went we walked around the lake then paddled. I would go back, but avoid weekends as they are busy.

Truly Relaxing

By purplehair66 |

Went with friends, packed lunch and walked trail. Lovely weather, beautiful lake and surroundings. Will return.

Beautiful Lake

By Laura F |

Beautiful Lake just Minutes from Downtown Prescott. Lots of shady picnic tables and BBQ grills. This is not a swimming lake but primarily for fishing, or small boats such as canoes etc. There is also camping.

Lots of families and pets were enjoying fishing and kayaking and hiking

By Kimpia |

We scored! We saw the golden eagle. We could not find its' man made nest. As a hike, it is quite easy. You can start clockwise and toward the middle it gets a little hairy for those without hiking shoes. We crossed the lake's creek on rocks to get all the way around and that can be difficult as well. If you start counter clockwise it is quite a nice stroll and you would turn around at the creek crossing. It is paved part of the way so that is friendly for wheelchairs. Everybody seemed to be having such a good time. I loved talking to the kids who were fishing and hearing about what they caught. It was cool to see an old fashioned pass time activity being enjoyed by so many families. There is a restaurant by the lake and friends said it was good.

A scenic spot close to town

By MattDamon94 |

This a very scenic area and a relaxing hike. It is close to town and easy to access. The trail system isn't extensive, but you can certainly hike around for a hours.

Wonderful recreation area!

By AzYldkatz1 |

Took a hike around area and was very pleased with the cleanliness of the information center and restrooms. The trails were very clearly marked and varied in degree of difficulty.

Outdoor Family Fun!

By Melissa |

Lynx Lake is a favorite place to visit for kayaking, fishing, hiking, etc. We enjoyed walking the trail around the lake. One side is paved and has lookout points with benches to sit and enjoy the scenery of the lake. Other side is a little more adventurous, unpaved, rocks and roots to navigate through. It's doable, not hard just watch your step. The lake is viewed the whole time which makes it a nice trail. In the summer you definitely see more birds and may be lucky enough to see an Eagle. Kayaking is definitely a family favorite. The lake is usually not busy so you get to enjoy the peacefulness of the area.
It took us 30 minutes to walk the paved side starting at the store
45 minutes to walk the unpaved side but we did walk all the way to the mini dam. You can easily bypass this area if you didn't want to walk the thin trail.

Kayaking Heaven

By Susanne P |

We tried out our new kayaks on this lake. The lake was clear and the launching area was clean/well maintained. There's also a trail that goes around the lake, but we didn't take it...next time.

Nice lake in the pines

By KittyBD55 |

We come here to go kayaking, but there are always people here hiking, fishing & camping. It's easy to get to and there is a $5.00 parking fee - except on Wednesdays, when it's free. There is a good boat ramp, with plenty of room for 2 vehicles at a time. There is also plenty of parking around the boat ramp area and there is an outhouse-type of restroom.

Beautiful, quite place to have a picnic!

By connie |

So close to town, but you're a thousand miles away! We found this gem during our trip to Prescott, AZ in March. We had picnic on the lake and watched the fishermen close up for the day. There is camping available, but not during the winter months.

Ladies and dogs for Birthday Party

We went for a Birthday Picnic and walk around the lake. It was uncrowded, pretty clean, nice tables not on top of each other. Beautiful Pine and oak forest, very green. It was hot where the sun could get to you, but it was the end of August! This was my second time and I enjoyed it very much.

Fishermen Beware!

By Cullen B |

Beautiful lake, would come again but only on a weekday. Fishermen beware, the lake is littered with Paddle-boarders and families that do not respect fishermen. Also counted 15-20 dead Catfish on the shores, not sure what that was about, but a bit concerning.

Hiking with beauty

By Karen E |

I have been to Lynx lake a few times. This is one of my favorite hiking trails. I go with my father and we hike the trails. The lake is beautiful with trees reflecting off the water. They have a restaurant I have not been to as of yet. The picnic area is well maintained with plenty of tables and benches. Lynx has many trails however I always prefer the lake view trail. It is pet friendly. Bring your phone or camera it is peaceful and calming. This is one of my favorites. It free every Wednesday.

Very nice local park and lake - with a good loop trail around the lake

By Mooney_231 |

The lake has picnic areas which are busy on weekends, and also a loop trail around the lake. We spent an hour and a half to easily meander around the lake last Sunday. It was a very pleasant walk, and, once you get away from the parking lot picnic areas very quiet. This is a very nice fairly easy walk with only a couple areas of scree to negotiate. The dog walkers think leases are optional once they clear the parking lots, but most of them are under control. There are boat rentals and boat launching areas for non-motorized boats. Several families and individuals were enjoying fishing. It's a great kayak / canoe lake. We always enjoy visiting Lynx.

Pleasant and Refreshing

By Gmaw |

So enjoyed an afternoon at Lynx Lake. We enjoyed the beach and then fished from the beach. Wednesdays appear to be Free Fee Days so that was an unexpected treat. They have a very nice handicap ramp to the water.

Nice hike

By Kevin J |

Start on the south and east side, it is a bit more challenging then finish off going around the north and west side which has a path that is somewhat paved and has benches to sit on and enjoy the view.

Picturesque lake

By Sue F |

Easy drive from the Valley, this small lake is quiet and picturesque. Lots of trails around. The one that goes around the lake is paved nicely on one side. The south entrance had good accessibility for me with my walker after having recently broken my leg. You really can’t swim in any of the lakes in Prescott because of water issues, but kayaking on this lake would seem very peaceful. Worth the trip from the Valley.

Beautiful Mountain Lake

By Barbara S |

On a hot summer day - what a pleasant place to come and walk around this beautiful lake! The lake was a short two mile trip from our hotel (Forest Villas) and proved to be a perfect place to spend some time in such a lovely setting.

Worth a visit in any weather

By 913frances |

Not everyone wants to hike around the lake, although it is really fun to do. It's only about two miles, not too challenging, and lots to see. Plenty of places to rest, too, and photo ops everywhere.
But less energetic people will also enjoy Lynx Lake. You can sit outside the restaurant and enjoy the views; you can sit at the picnic tables; you can walk a little bit, it's not an all or nothing situation! Breathe in the clean clear air and you will come away feeling refreshed.

Really pretty...

By SR P |

Took a day trip to see the lake. It was very pretty. A nice walk around the lake part of the trail is paved, about 3 miles around. Several benches to sit and relax and just enjoy the scenery. There is parking just next to the cafe and then also by the boat launch area there is a lot more parking available.

Once a difficult to find gem in the middle of nowhere...

By Deborah S-K |

now it is a rare gem hidden behind chain stores.

This lake does not allow motor boats but non motorized boats are welcome. This lake does not allow swimming.

Camped

By Scuffy13 |

Stayed at the Hilltop Campground, loop B, number 13. Great picnic table and fire ring with grill. Wonderful tent pad of sand.

Many hiking trails

By Scott B |

Lynx Lake is a small Lake in the Prescott National Forest. There is paved parking and restrooms. Many hiking trails.

Another beautiful lake at prescott, AZ

By N’Sultana |

Wonderful scenic view. Blue water lake in the middle of forest. Very good area for camping! There are different location and arrangement system for campers. Boating and fishing are allowed, but not swimming. A very good trail created for visitors. All ages of people can go there.

Our favorite spot...

By Travelinggirl |

Not sure why we like this walking trail so much. Mostly flat and paved on one side. Dirt on the other. We like to park on the south end of the lake & walk the paved trail to the restaurant on the north side of the lake. Have lunch outside and use the bathroom and walk back to the southside.

Hiking aro9und Prescott, Arizona

By 297donna |

This was a beautiful area to hike. Several choices for easy hiking. Also had several longer higher rated hikes. Look forward to traveling back to Prescott to hike this area again.

Love this place!

By Kim S |

Lynx Lake is a beautiful park. There is an easy walking trail and excellent place to kayak. We go often, and always have a relaxing time.

Captivating!

By Phil L |

I spent three days here! The first as a friend took me on a tour, and the second with my laptop so I could start writing my 3rd Symphony on a bench overlooking the lake! The trails are generally very pedestrian friendly unless you try to get into more secluded terrain, but the sublime beauty of the trees, water and wildlife, were a wonderful sight to behold! We went a third time to let the dog run free in a secluded clearing during the melting of the first snows of 2015! Everything you could want from nature is pretty much right here!

What a hidden little gem!

By solem8s |

We have been to Lynx lake by the store many times, but never ventured to the other side of the lake. What a special little place. They honor the National Parks passes or the fee is self service $5. The park hosts are a wonderful couple willing to give out great information about the area. There are plenty of picnic benches, b-b-ques and grassy areas. You can fish from the shore or take a small boat out on the free boat launch. I'm so glad we found this little treasure and plan to go there often.

Place of respite

By TTSGarden |

We needed a break from traveling. Stopped here and recharged. Dog friendly as long as they are leashes. Fishing if you have a license. And just nice to be out even in the winter.

The mountains around here were beautiful!

By Brenda A |

The area around the lake is really pretty and fun to drive around. You can smell the pines, the air is crisp and clean. We live in Phoenix so it's great to smell clean air! The lake is pretty small and is o.k. but I wouldn't go back next time we are in Prescott area.

Great Spot for a Picnic

By Charles K |

My wife and I have both enjoyed hiking around the lake and having a picnic, not much of a fisherman, but looks like a great spot for fishing as well..... Love that it is a 'no wake' lake so canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding is wonderful.... Close to town, ample parking, well maintained, simply a lovely spot.....

I Keep Going Back

By Vorchek |

Lynx Lake and environs is one of the wonders of highland Arizona. So much there: the pretty lake, seemingly endless forests, the Highland Center, fine campgrounds, fun trails, Indian ruins, a gold-panning creek, and birds galore. Lynx Lake is a premier bird-watching locale. I've been there dozens of times, and am always ready to visit again.

Mother Nature at her finest

By Budlink |

What a pretty lake! We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. We saw walking trails, canoeing as well as kayaks. Picnic tables and restrooms are available though there was no water the day we were there.

Great Day Trip

By Kidzoomom |

You can't swim here but the scenery is amazing. A fun easy hike around the lake, fishing is good at the stocked lake. Picnic area is beautiful. Also you can rent canoes and kayaks here.

On a quiet day, a serene place to take a walk

By Deborah G |

This little gem was rather hidden. So glad someone recommended it to us. We were there mid week and late in the afternoon. Few people were around. The leaves on trees were turning just a bit and the reflection in the water was lovely. Looks like one can take a row boat out on the lake. It appears that fishing is possible, too.

Lynx Lake is great for hiking, kayaking or grabbing a bite when the Cafe is open.

By Linda T |

I have hiked some great trails around the lake. I had lunch at the little ethnic cafe. Some tasty unusual items on their menu. You can bring your fishing pole, kayak or canoe.

Nice Easy Stroll Around Lake

By jhbh1961 |

Pleasant place to spend a few hours in a natural forest environment; yet extremely close to town. We had a flight from up north and long drive from Palm Springs behind us, and this was a relaxing spot to stretch our legs walking around the lake in the pretty forest. Lots of picnic tables make this a good spot for families or groups. The parking fee was fair as all facilities were well maintained. People were fishing and there were lots of aquatic birds to observe.

Beautiful and serene!

By Bitsycorona |

My friend and I hiked all the way around the lake and it was really beautiful. Not too many people on the trail and the weather was perfect. It's only takes about an hour and a half to walk the perimeter of the lake.

Peaceful and Scenic

By 792burtg |

My wife and I visited the Prescott area to take in the rodeo the week of the 4th of July, 2019.

We camped at Lynx Lake. Very relaxing. The campsites were well manicured. Someone raked each and every campsite daily it seemed. All campsites look level, with easy access to pit toilets and water. We could not see the lake, only 100 yards away, from the campsite because the forest around it is thick with pine trees. All campsites are next to paved roads.

Easy walk, ~10 minutes, to the lake from the campsites. Also, it hit 92 degrees while we were there during the day and got down to ~60 degrees at night. the high in Phoenix was 110.

Pristine little lake!

By Laura S |

My daughter and I took our kayak and spent a few hours paddling around Lynx Lake. The lake is very clean, but unfortunately no swimming is allowed. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the peace and quiet, and beautiful view as the sun started to set behind the pines.

Great walk

By Lori W |

Enjoy an easy hike around the lake, the west side is paved making it very doable. The east side although not paved is still fairly easy. Some mild climbing. Enjoy!!

Jewel of a park

By Sheila J |

Great lake for kayaking, canoeing. Nice walking trail around the lake. Beautiful mountain views. Very nice picnic areas.

Peaceful

By CanyonlandsorBust |

We hiked the trails around the lake, very easy to traverse. There were a lot of people walking their dogs on the trails. I consider this a small lake.

Beautiful Bargain

By Bruce W |

Wonderful location for lakeside picnic and feeding ducks and geese. Very beautiful setting with nice clean facilities and numerous picnic tables and grills.

A very nice small lake... fine for kayaks or small sailboarts..nice camground on same area.

By ralphrabin |

A very nice lake. camping adjacent to lake. Now closed for 5 weeks due to it
being a Federal site. Fine for canoes, kayaks, and rowboats. Small sailboats would
also be considered here.
Good ramps for entry to the lake and lots of parking when it reopens.

Pleasant walk around the lake

By FoolPro001 |

The walk around Lynx Lake is easy and the walk way is especially nice in most sections and the path interesting in others. Our of town guests still rave about it.

Lynx Lake

By Bev M |

Beautiful family recreation area for a quick get away from the valley. Nice, easy and maintained walking trail around the lake. Great lake for a kayak. Picnic areas with tables and grills.

Great for the family

By LEE M |

Visited this park on Christmas Day. A great park for hiking. Wish we had a canoe or boat as the boat rental place was closed. $5 Park fee.

Great relaxing, easy access to nature...from Prescott

By AZvisitor675 |

A great place to be in nature (the World's largest Ponderosa Pine Forest) so close to a great little, city, Prescott. It's great for most of the year. One side of the lake has a paved trail, and the other side is not paved, more rugged. Sometimes there are eagles nesting. And a very good German restaurant right there, also. Can use your Golden Age pass. Good for all ages.

Fun place to fish or just relax in the cool pines

By Milinda N |

Went fishing up at Lynx Lake and had so much fun. You can also bird watch up here. If your in the mood for a hike you can do so around the lake. Great picnic area and they can accomodate large groups.

Nice relaxing hike

By Eurotraveler68 |

We spent a weekend in Prescott and decided to visit Lynx Lake for a hike. We went around the whole lake (about 3.5 miles) in a little over an hour and a half. It is mostly flat and very relaxing. There are plenty of trees considering it is Arizona though people from the Pacific Northwest might be disappointed. We saw birds, ducks, and a couple of tarantulas. If you are in Prescott and want to do a short hike to experience the beauty of Arizona I would highly recommend a visit here.

Nic Hike Around the Lake

By Cindy S |

We did the roughly three mile hike around the lake and enjoyed it. The path to the west of the lake between parking lots is paved, the trail on the east side is more rugged, but flat. you do have to cross a small creek to do the full circuit which can be tricky. There is some confusion if hiking counterclockwise on the trail because you must pass by a KEEP OUT sign to continue on the trail near the north parking area.

trail around the lake

By Shelley B |

Activity for all ages, maintained trail around the lake, or take on the trails through forest. Highland Nature Center is nearby. The cafe, boat rental, and day parking (fee or park pass) at the north end of the lake . The south end (fee) has a boat launch, no gas engines, and picnic area. And these days no swimming in the lake, sigh. Three campgrounds.

Bareakfast at the Cafe, then lake hike.

By Diane B |

We enjoyed a well prepared breakfast at the Lynx Cafe followed by a hike from the parking area as far as we could without having to cross a stream. Returned to our car in the same direction. Great fall day with lovely tree colors that we enjoyed.

Nice lake and opicnic grounds

By captjrk |

This a great place to visit for kayaking, fishing, hiking and picnicing. The south end has covered picnic tables, grilles and a boat launch. In the summer there are canoe, paddleboat, and kayak rentals at the north end.

Nice to walk arould the lake - the west side is paved and the east side is not, but still not a difficult trail.

Between he north entrance and Highway 69 there is "Lynx Lake Ruin". It's an easy, peaceful 3/4 mile hike back to he ruin.

Great Nature

By Veronica C |

Just gorgeous and it was a rainy day in Prescott. Clean, well maintained, quiet. Just loved listening to nature that was about 10 minutes or less from downtown

Beautiful

By gilbertgranny |

Nice easy hiking trail. Fun to kayak. A very picturesque and peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommend. Take the family

You just need an hour to go around it!

By Annaline |

What a lovely lake. Very intimate. Perfect for a family picnic or a romantic randez-vous. The trail around the lake is almost flat all around (dirt on one side and asphalt on the other side). I believe on the asphalt side you can get from the picnic area to the cafe/parking on the other side of the lake via wheelchair. I learned about the cafe when I went around the lake but it was too late...already closed so I didn't make it inside. Make sure you self check-in/pay for parking because it is frequently checked by park rangers.

Hike around the lake

By Sandra W |

We took a walk around the loop trail and really enjoyed the peacefulness of the area. Easy walk and a lot of the walk was in the shade. Good parking is provided with a small hike to the trail.

Easy and scenic

By PJW83 |

Pretty walk around the lake on a quiet Sunday in March. Basically flat. Takes about an hour. We hiked twice since it was close to our hotel and fit nicely into our schedule. Neat birds.

sweet little hike

By booked2go |

This is very close to town and made for a nice short outing. There is a path that goes completely around the small lake. The West side is paved and good for strollers and walkers needed a more dependable surface. At the the damn it continues on around on a small unpaved trail that involved a little scrambling, but with closer interaction with birds and small animals. There was a truck stocking fish when we were there, and a few picnickers on a beautiful day.

Beautiful for hiking, sightseeing and camping

By vansathome |

We love Lynx Lake and are lucky enough to be just a short 5 minute drive to it. Great for a nice hike, this little lake is a treasure. I go paddleboarding there often. It is so peaceful and serene during the week in the afternoons. We also took our family on a hike and found new hidden trails.

Prettiest view in the area

By Michael S |

This is the best place to hike. It is paved on one side, and pretty well sheltered from the wind. It is free on Wednesdays.

Grat lake and plenty of shade

By Buckshot5255 |

This is a gorgeous lake with a boat ramp and shady picnic areas. Well worth the $3 but free with your Senior Gold Eagle pass

Been coming here since 1991

By Stephanie928 |

Three miles from Highway 69 is a gem of a lake and nature area. There is a paved trail that runs from the North end of the lake to the South, along the lake, that is great for a stroll or a walk with your favorite pooch! From the North entrance there is a quaint restaurant that is open from Thursday through Sunday and also rents boats by the hour; along with lake parking and additional trails. On the South entrance there is plenty of parking and benches for picnics and family gatherings. The self boat launch is also here. Parking is $5 unless you have an annual national parks pass.

Our visit to Lynx Lake Recreation area was interesting.

By Robert J |

Lynx Lake offers visitors pleasant temperatures even in October. We loved the Ponderosa Pines. Many think Arizona is mostly desert, but there is the Largest Ponderosa Pine Forest in the world. We also saw juniper, (love the smell of these trees, and a variety other vegetation. We enjoyed relaxing in the sun on the grass. For many vacations are almost hectic. Since we retired, we think, whats the rush. Take time to enjoy everything about nature.
Lynx Lake has colorful wildflowers in the spring, but some during or after it rained. Temperatures are comfortable after 9am and in the afternoon...

The Ponderosa Pines have wildlife, and we saw some deer, a bobcat, rabbits, squirrels a few lizards, and LOTS of birds including one Eagle.

Beautiful

By Laura W |

Beautiful scenery and great hike around the lake. Go during the week when there are less people if you can.

Sweet lake

By Becca H |

We stopped by Lynx for a quick view of the area while I was visiting. We watched a group of ducks for a while, but didn't have time to explore much. Beautiful little lake!

Best view

By krupnikqueen |

My husband and I shared a picnic at the north end of the Lake near the restaurant. We were above the lake and had a wonderful view of the shimmering water and the mountain ranges beyond. We hiked around the lake and then back to the picnic tables to enjoy our food and the views. Perfect day.

Hidden Gem

By kathryn b |

Right off the major thoroughfare through Prescott is this wooded area surrounding a reservoir. The paved trail circles the waterway, with options off this trail. Canoes available for rent and fishing readily available, too. Restroom facilities and picnic tables too. Pets acceptable. Love this stroll - watch the water levels around the dam to determine if you can make it all the way around.

Serene

By Safari52357 |

Serene with plenty of trails. Many areas to camp.
There are bugs in the summertime. Easy to spend a long weekend here.

Awesome place!

By Bill G |

Sadly, we discovered this wonderful park late in our stay in Prescott. This is a beautiful place with a quiet, lovely lake and a hiking trail around it. The hiking trail is fun, easy, well maintained and gives gorgeous views of the lake. It's quiet and serene and motor boats aren't allowed on the lake. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. There is an excellent "German" restaurant at the north end. Plus the drive into the south part of the lake is beautiful. What a great find!

Nice walk around the lake.

By gerardw |

Stopped by and took a stroll around the lake. Check on trail guide online (trail #311) before walking around, distance is deceptive because of various fingers the lake winds around.

Hiking

By Debby J |

We found this hike when visiting Prescott and fell in love. I would say we did this walk around the lake at least 4 out 7 days of the week during the month long visit. Loved the views and trail. Part of it is paved and the other is dirt and rock which makes for a bit of adventure but not too much. There was a lot of rain while we were there so part of the trail got covered in water so we had improvise and walk a bit farther and walk over some rocks to get across the stream. Such fun. Beautiful views.

Kayaking at it's best

By phildeez818 |

Nice easy load unload area.
Go on Wednesday and its free to park.
Otherwise its going to run you 5$
There's a restaurant on premises

Great place for and easy hike

By Mountainman827 |

Enjoyed walking around the lake about 2.5 miles. One side is paved. $5 parking fee or free on Wednesday

Great recreation opportunities

By BiggieDaveMac |

Lynx is a nice small lake with a boat ramp, picnic tables, facilities, and a full perimeter hiking trail. The trail on the east side is unimproved but fairly easy to negotiate. The trail on the west side is improved and asphalt paved. However, the Forest Service has been doing a slacker job, at best, of maintaining the pavement. The asphalt has eroded significantly in spots, severely narrowing the trail. Because of the poor condition in places I would advise caution in using wheelchairs and strollers.
There is a small restaurant on the north Shore which serves decent food with a view of the lake and enough hummingbird feeders to keep your inner birdwatcher thoroughly entertained.

Great daytime stroll

By Bishman97 |

We had heard about Lynx Lake and went to take a look. Enjoyed the hike around the lake, weather was cool and breezy. Managed to keep our shoes dry, even down by the dam where the 'trail' is more underwater - step lively! Would like to come back to visit again.

Quaint lake. Nice paddle boats. Lovely staff.

By FineThingsinlife |

we drove up for an overnighter in Prescott and stopped here for a picnic and paddle boat trip. The woman who rented the paddle boats was wonderful - answered all our questions about the area. rentals are very reasonable and you could tour the lake in about an hour if you work at it. the lake is small. you cannot swim in it due to park rules. this would be a nice day trip for a family

Lovely lake

By FlagstaffWomen |

We spent two nights at Lynx Lake Campground. Getting to the lake was very easy With numerous paths down a hill, not too steep and fairly easy to find. Second day we took a hike all the way around the lake which was between three and 4 miles long. Most of the time the path was well marked but there were some tricky places that we had to negotiate with going over rocks in shallow water. We took a lunch with us and ate at the recreation area which was clean and comfortable with ample shade over picnic tables. There were quite a few people celebrating the Fourth of July early and taking advantage of the coolness of the lake with paddleboard’s and boats. The lynx Lake Café had not opened yet but we learned that when they are open they rent kayaks and canoes, etc. The food there is supposed to be wonderful and we intend to try it next time we camp.

summer fun

By ArizonaAdams |

I have enjoyed renting a cane and hiking around the lake as well as dining in the restaurant there. For a treat have a breakfast in the little restaurant. Be sure to bring water for a hike or canoeing. If you are lucky you will see an eagle, but also many other birds. this is a great place for a family trip but watch young children around the water.

Beautiful Wooded Trails

By Dalene B |

Enjoyed a 4 plus mile hike on the gorge trail. There are a few creeks but easy to cross with our getting wet. Very peaceful with great views. This trail was open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

Great out-of-the-way Get-away

By Laura P |

Lovely campground with a lake nearby for swimming and boating and gazing. Great oasis spot in the desert.

Arizona mountain retreat

By R6990TVmarym |

This is not most peoples idea of Arizona. A high mountain lake with campgrounds, boat rental, trout fishing and a surprisingly good little German restaurant that is dog-friendly. The hummingbirds are also a pleasant bonus.

Wonderful hiking

By annekeenan1 |

Wonderful hiking and biking and picnic or bbq near the water. It has many things to offer. A bird sanctuary as well.

Beautiful Hiking

By BrandiMW |

It was a beautiful hike around the lake. Over 2-miles, but not difficult at all. Bring water for sure!!! Enjoyed reaching the boat area which had picnic tables and benches and restroom facilities. Lots of ducks. Didn't see anyone catch any fish, but lots were trying!! I highly recommend!!!
Prior to beginning our hike, we checked out the store and restaurant!! Great selections!!

outdoor beauty

By jmarkey11 |

surrounded by the forest, Lynx Lake is just BEAUTIFUL! a great place to hike and also have a picnic. There is fishing, kayaking accessibility. Just a small drive away from the traffic. but is secluded enough to be a peaceful outdoor place to relax.

Full of trees

By Zaynab A |

Neat place, parking $ 5 that includes all Prescott parks
Went in march , weather was great + cloudy !
Road to the lake was beautiful
* Take the road all the way down you will see beautiful views as well !

Wheelchair accessible walking path

By lorirQ355GE |

This is a fairly small but nice lake. One side of the lake has a concrete path that is handicap accessible. There is a boat ramp, but the type and size of boat is limit. Concrete tables and benches are available for picnics. Though fishing is available, it is not always promising.

Beautiful

By Jewell D |

This campground is absolutely beautiful. The staff is friendly and the place is very clean. There are many hiking trails just right off the campground that leads to the lake. We rented kayaks that was $20 an hour. You can’t beat that price!

Quiet out of the way place

By Vickie J |

Nice place to hike or just sit by the water. Has picnic tables and lots of trees in the area. Great place for family, kids can run and play in the woods or by the water.

Great Fishing Hole

By Steve B |

This is my favorite fishing hole in Prescott. My wife doesn't fish but she always comes with me when I fish here. It is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. There is a hiking trail around the entire lake, with the West side paved and the East side a dirt trail. We have seen Bald Eagles nests in the West side and have seen them fly over the Lake.

Beautiful Trail and Lake

By Sheamus0104 |

My wife and I and 3 friends visited Lynx Lake. After breakfast at the cafe (another review:) we hiked around the lake trail. It was a very easy and beautiful 2 mile hike. Other hikers were very friendly and we had the perfect start to our day. We had 2 dogs in our group and were grateful that leashed dogs are welcome on the lake trail. This was a beautiful intro to Prescott on our first trip visiting friends.

Lots of Water in the Lake After Recent Rain

By Rob C |

We did a loop hike (about 15 of us in a group - all locals). First part of the trail was paved then we headed uphill into the forest, before back down to the water. I was told that normally you can walk across at one point to the other side of the lake but not today! Recent rains have water flowing over the culvert and into the lake. Plenty of folk out in kayaks and a large group of ducks and occasional geese. Nice lunch (with a $3 pint special) at the cafe before leaving. Beautiful day, probably warm for this time of year - after all, it's still officially winter... and an easy to moderate hike loop of about 4 miles (90 minutes). My first time visiting but I think I will become a regular.

Pleasant day kyaking

By WDCUeberau |

Enjoyable small lake, very clean, well maintained. We brought our own kayaks, but apparently there is small boat rental available - check in advance for that. Hiking and camping on site also.

Delightful natural setting

By davefoshee |

This small lake, just a few miles from the busy highway at the Prescott/Prescott Valley boundary, is a wonderful and picturesque setting. There is hiking and fishing (with small boats to rent) and a small cafe with an interesting menu slant.....German food, and Thursday-Saturday evening specials.

Great place to spend a few hours or the whole day without driving very far.

Small lake but clean and good for families

By Anjilsmom |

It had what we needed for the holiday - shade, breeze, water, wildlife, picnic tables, bathrooms. Even though the parking was full it didn't feel crowded.

Small lake with good hiking!

By wkotch |

This lake was good hiking and the water was decent for our doggies to play in. It is back off of the road and very pretty.

Pretty lake with restaurant

By Ursula M |

This tends to get very crowded during the summer and cold during the winter but it's a very pretty lake. I think you can rent rowboats; definitely not motor boats. There is a nice restaurant at the edge of the lake. Overall, this is a nice, peaceful place for relaxing.

Looks like a good place for a kayak

By Quadyak |

Scouted the lake out while in the area for a future kayak visit. Will be back as it looks like a nice little spot for some paddling. Not a big lake but big enough to paddle around a bit in the pines.

Hike and breakfast!

By theresa s |

Enjoyed a nice nature walk and then had a fabulous breakfast in a quaint restaurant w a mini store...
They have canoes, paddle boats for rent on lake which restaurant overlooks... What a hidden Jen!!

Beautiful recreation site

By Pananya K |

It was very peaceful and tranquil. People were fishing and hiking. There was a 3 hr hiking trail around the area. We did part of it and it was beautiful. People said that there was a camping ground. I am not sure because I did not see it nor I camped there.

Great camping!

By Mmurray1970july |

We stayed in the lynx campground, loop a #3, really nice spot, very spacious ( there are only 3 spots in this loop ) , site was very spacious, clean and is surrounded by tall pines. We camped in a 26 foot rv.. site was long enough. But its nit too level, we did have to jack up the back end to get it so. Campgroubd has vault toilets, ( not sure how clean , we used our facilities, ) there is potable water but not to use for rv's. No power. The only bad thing we experienced was they will not let you come kn early , even if the site is empty, dont even try it..the host is right on you and if you are there before the 2pm check in time...he will ask you to leave or he will ask you to pay for an extra day. . Also the campground does not have a dump station. Other then that we would camp here again

Nice spot to camp, relax.

By Erica P |

We camped at Lynx Lake campground August 19-21. Nice cool escape from Phoenix during the summer heat. Campsites are small but well appointed. You are close to your neighbors but everyone around us was pretty quiet and respectful. Very good picnic table and fire ring. Proximity to town makes it a great spot for camping with little kids. Trails to the lake are pretty easy; our 2 and 4 year olds did the walk down and up. We'll go again!

Country Isolation, City Close

By Scout4x |

6 miles from our house and it feels like we're way far away. Tensions drain away quickly here. A nice trail all the way around the lake without tiring my old legs. Even saw a bald eagle one time perched on top of a dead tree. A nice launch ramp for those who need one. Only minus is lack of parking on busy days. Okay for me as I'm retired and can go mid-week. Oh, and I can use my golden pass!

Paved path on the Lake was Great!

By Eva S |

We followed the paved path around Lynx Lake with no problems at all. The Ranger was very helpful and told us what to expect on the walk, which took us halfway around the lake. There were plenty of benches along the way so stopping to enjoy the view was nice.

Trail was treacherous in snow and ice

By Marietta P |

We did a 7 mile hike around the lake and up to the old pueblo ruin. Parts of the trail were iced over and it was very challenging. The trails otherwise were pleasant and enjoyable and the air wonderfully crisp and clear. I'd love to walk up here in another season though!

Delightful Hike

By Farquar H |

Late morning hike around a beautiful lake surrounded by hills. Still some snow and slippery spots on the east side, but we made it!

Wonderful hike in the pines

By Rita L |

Such a great hike for any level of hiker. Partially paved. Walk the perimeter of the lake. Cool place for warm summer days.

Surprised to see the area existed....

By Mike S |

I'm no expert on Prescott by any means but I've spent my fait share of time in different parts of AZ. I didn't realize a "forested" area like this existed outside of the Flagstaff area. It's amazing that the are was 5-10 minutes tops from downtown. Go 5-10 minutes in the other direction and you're in a desert.

Peaceful in the Prescott Pines

By deannabtraveling |

The area offers a lot of fun for the whole family. Fishing, boating, hiking, kayaking, wildlife watching, and camping. They offer boat and kayak rentals, and they take care of your fishing needs. There is a cafe near the north shore area and great views of the lake. Stop at the south shore area for the boat launches. There is camping in the Lynx Lake Campground, and reservations are highly recommended. There are hiking trails all over, including one that goes around the lake. The lake has catfish, trout, and even crayfish. Enjoy the day use area for a peaceful getaway from the summer heat.

Nice area and not to crowded

By nighthawkriparian |

Plenty of paid parking and camping areas. Fishing is mediocre. You can park free in some areas. Nice place to camp and hike, plenty of trails. Reserve a campsite well in advance. No motorcycles on trails but bicycles ok.

A nice day outing

By Martha M |

This recreation area is well maintained, clean, and refreshing. We enjoy hiking around it and renting kayaks or paddle boats for water fun. It has sufficient shade for summer enjoyment. There is a fee to park on either end.

Hike around Lynx Lake

By Ted S |

In between Prescott Valley and Prescott is Lynx Lake. It is great fun to get back to nature and hike around the lake. It also has an eagle nest to watch for and an old Indian grounds nearby for additional curiosity.

Beauty At It's Finest

By Nancy W |

My husband and I recently visited this lake and it was beautiful! We visited on Wed. which you did not have a park fee, but any other day there is a fee of $5.00. There is a walking trail around the lake (we did not walk all the way around). There are picnic areas and people can fish in the lake (license required). You can also drive using the roads to different areas of the recreation grounds. There is an area where you can purchase native plants, a museum, cafe (although we found it closed) and the sheer beauty of the surrounding forest is worth the drive alone. Very family friendly area, worth a stop.

Peaceful Little Lake Just Outside of Prescott

By TucsonDaug |

We were camping at Lynx and enjoyed walking the trails around the lake. While it was a holiday weekend, the place was not overcrowded and enjoyable. Bikes are not allowed on the trail which made it quiet and less traveled. I did see some young kids and older individuals having a hard time crossing at one slippery steep rock path but otherwise trail is very flat and safe for all ages.

Nice to walk around, and have a small boat to float...

By UtahDaytripper |

We parked and walked on the paved trail around the lake, enjoyed it quite well, no issues and felt safe there.

You'll forget you are close to the dessert

By Kimberly I |

Went there with our dog and walked about halfway around the lake. Loved the peacefulness of it. Looks like there are a lot of campsites and water activities. The facilities are "outhouse toilets" and though basically clean, we had one where someone left the "seat up" and the smell and flies when I walked into it were overpowering as a result. Not the fault of the facility--just a warning for those less comfortable with rustic environments. The lake is beautiful and unexpected in Arizona. You forget that a 10 minute ride will bring you to red rocks and boulders :) The paths are well paved and maintained . I thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the lake and found it beautiful, but if I had to choose between Lynx and Watson Lakes, I'd choose Watson :) It's a huge recreation area and has plenty to do!

A northern Minnesota oasis in Arizona? You betcha!

By dmoon806 |

Just a couple minutes from Costco on Highway 69 yet a world away in terms of natural beauty. Lynx Lake feels more like northern Minnesota than the Arizona desert. Trails can get a little crowded on weekends but went on a beautiful Oct. Wednesday and had the place to ourselves. Keep an eye out for eagles. They're out there.

Accessible, Tranquil.

By mtspace |

In Arizona it is easy to find lakes that are surrounded almost entirely by rocks and boulders. Of these Lynx Lake has its share. Its strength, though, is that it is set in an area well populated with ponderosa pine trees and these grow all the way down to the edge of the lake. The creek bed that houses the lake is one that has a lot of branching. That means that there are a lot of bays and peninsulas along the edges. It is set in an undulating landscape, and as one walks, the views are generally good and always changing. On a brisk walk one can go all the way around the lake in sixty or ninety minutes. Paths on the north side of the lake are smoothly paved, making them wheelchair accessible.

It is rare not to see some interesting birds on a visit here. Ducks are almost always present. Sometimes cranes can be seen. And at certain times of the year the south rim path is closed because eagles nest nearby.

On certain days, usually on or near the weekend, one can rent canoes, paddle boats, or kayaks. There are camping sites near the lake, although I know nothing about them. There is a small restaurant with somewhat spotty hours of service near the boat rental area.

Great place

What a beautiful lake. There is so much fun if you enjoy the outdoors this is the place to go to. Very peaceful and relaxing

Good place to relax

By Kathleen H |

A relaxing oasis where you can take a leisurely hike, rent a boat or paddle craft, or just hang out and enjoy the pine scented air.

Beautiful Area

By Ripster17 |

The lake is small and nestled among many tall trees offering some very nice views. Best to go early to get some shade and to find a parking place. Has an asphalt walking path around half the lake and the other side is totally natural. There is a five dollar fee if you don't have a pass. Definitely worth a look.

Beautiful!!!

Nice little lake 3 miles from town in the forest! Beautiful picnic area. Lots of family's enjoying a picnic lunch. People in kayac's fishing. Very relaxing. We went the Wednesday after labor day hardly anyone there.

Paying for the parking pass was confusing but once that was figured out, had a great time. Got away from the valley heat and went hiking with the family dog. Beautiful lake and area!

Great Hike Around the Lake

By Desert Rose |

Terrific one-hour hike around the lake. We are 65+ in decent shape and enjoy this hike on a Sunday morning. Weekends are busy, and there is usually more availalbe parking at the south end of the lake. We like hiking up the east side to the Lynx Lake Cafe (at the north parking area), and after brunch head around the west side back to the car. There are so many birds to enjoy, and there are plenty of shady spots to rest. Sometimes we start at the Cafe and do the whole hike in one go after breakfast. I would not recommend the whole hike for little kids, but just taking a 15 minute stroll along the path would be a nice outing for the littlest hikers, or the slowest adults.

Pretty area/not worth the rental fee

By bbcaao |

Beautiful area. Nice path around the lake.some pic is spots under trees. We went to the north side where there is a ramp to the lake, or stairs. Not for someone who is hindered physically.

The lower eating is for the canoe/paddle bird/paddle boat rental at the bottom the ramp. They advertise boats with coverings but when we arrived they told us they don’t put them on. It was 94 degrees and sunny. We had a six year old that we did t think would last for an hour at $35-hour. We asked if we could just rent for 1/2 hour and really not leave the Cove, and we were told no, we would pay full price and just bring it back early.. they also ask for tips for handing you a life vest and point to your paddleboat. Pretty area but we will avoid rentals from now on.

A great hike followed by a terrific brunch

By LENNYPAL |

We started our hike early (around 8am) and had a quiet, scenic and fun stroll with our dogs. Met nice people along the way. We hiked all the way around the lake, stopping at several spots along the way, and it took us about two hours. We followed our hike with a great brunch at the Café, which included some well-earned chicken & waffles and eggs & biscuits (our server, Ricky, was very friendly and responsive)! The weather was fantastic and the view of the lake from our outdoor café table was pleasant and a great way to end the morning.

Very beautiful area you would not see from the roads. Amazing walk around the Lake. Very friendly people and dogs! Enjoyed a picnic & walk. Highly recommended.

Lake Hike

By pln-malibu |

My husband and I decided to walk around the lake. It is beautiful and the weather was lovely. We walked from the dam to the boat launch area along an asphalt path. A nice easy walk. From the boat launch area back to the dam was not difficult, but it was a more natural trail. In other words there was not an asphalt path. We enjoyed the hike and look forward to returning.

Beautiful area

By Jon B |

Nice trail that circles the lake that's about 2.5 miles long. Most of it is paved. I went on a weekend so the lake was busy with fishers, boaters and hikers.

This is a very beautiful lake where you can picnic, camp, boat , fish and hike many trails. It is close to many hotels and restaurants and has its own small cafe that is open a few days a week. Boats can be rented there.
There is an entrance fee for the area except on Wednesday. There also are fees for camping.

Beautiful - Our quick visit means a return trip

By Travellingphoenix64 |

Lynx Lake is 55 acres of man-made beauty nestled in the Bradshaw Mountains just southeast of Prescott Valley Arizona. My wife and I made a quick stopover to the area during a recent Prescott vacation. We definitely need to see more!

Home to Osprey and a winter home to Bald Eagle, this picturesque spot features, boating, fishing, camping and a 2-mile lake shore hiking loop with plenty of spots for great photos.

The lake even has it's own cafe, store and boat rental. The Cafe features breakfast, lunch and dinner every Thursday through Saturday and brunch on Sunday with awesome menu offerings including a Turkey Rueben, Po-Boy's and Brats for lunch and a variety of schnitzel at dinnertime! If there one thing I like more than the natural beauty of a lake, it's a lake with a good restaurant!

I think Lynx Lake may soon become a regular stop during our sojourns to Prescott.

If you are Looking for a short but scenic hike this is it. The hike around the lake is about 2.5 miles and largely on the flat side. The trees go down to the water making it very scenic. We

Relaxing Day Hike

By kimberleygoodman |

An easy trail around the entire lake with a nice covered area with picnic style park benches and tables to stop and rest 1/2 way. Lots of beautiful dense trees and shrubs and a scenic view of the lake the whole trail. Many other hikers, all very friendly! This trail is also dog-friendly, we brought our two small dogs & they got a great workout! Will definitely come back the next time we're in town.

Favorite Kayaking Lake

By Scott B |

Been here numerous times for kayaking, and still enjoy it as much now as the first time. The south sore picnic area can get crowded on weekends, but out on the lake it is always quiet. Great place to just unwind.

A lovely spot to visit

By Ruth M |

Had a beautiful walk round the lake followed by lunch at Lynx Lake Cafe.
The paths are fairly even and easy to traverse. We saw plenty of wildlife. It is a great easy walk for all ages.

Beautiful was to spend a few hours or all day!

By JulieF |

This is a beautiful park. There paved paths or some that are more challenging. The views are amazing and it is super close to town, where out hotel was. There are pavilions with grills and picnic tables for cookouts. There were several people fishing alone the lakeside, and anyone I asked had not caught anything but seemed to be just enjoying the peace and beauty of it all. They have boats and canoes for rent on the lake but it was pretty windy, and we only saw one person in a kayak on the lake. Highly recommend visiting this spot if you are in town!

Nice little hike

By kokopuffMichigan |

My husband and I stopped here are on our way out of Prescott to get a little exercise in before heading to Phoenix. Very peaceful and tranquil with lots of ducks fluttering around the water. We went on the lake trail. There were a lot if difficult areas due to the ice but it was fun. Do not recommend if you are not steady footed. We had tennis shoes on and we would have been better off with hiking boots. Nice bathroom facility.

Beautiful relaxing place

By Marilyn M |

This lake is really close in to town and worth the visit. We were staying at the Forest Villas Hotel and it was 5-10 minutes away. A beautiful man-made lake. Plenty of shaded picnic tables. My husband hiked the loop around the lake, about 1.5 hours, moderate on the east side (not paved, rocky in spots, not doable if disabled), easy on the west side (paved path). I am recovering from a broken femur so while he hiked, I sat in the shade taking in the view, listening to the wind rustle the tree leaves and the birds sing, and read a book. So relaxing. Nearby is a little restuarant that served good food. I had the hot pastrami sandwich and my husband gad the bratwurst plate. They have hummingbird feeders outside the windows, so in addition to the lovely view of the lake we watched 5+ hummingbirds share a feeder. I would suggest setting aside a 2-3 hours for seeing/hiking the lake and having a nice meal after or have a picnic at the lake. They do have barbeques too.

Lunch on the lake

By sassy_sam99 |

Great view of the lake while eating a fabulous lunch. This is a hummingbird haven. People are friendly, great atmosphere. You can sit outside enjoy the cool weather or take a quick walk down to the lake.

Love this Lake

By jamzinAZ |

I have lived in Prescott for 26 years and this summer I decided to take advantage of the the many hiking trails. This lake is AWESOME! I started on the north shore and hiked counterclockwise to the picnicking area on the other side. There is lots of shade and the trail on the right side of the lake is paved and makes it an easy hike! Love watching the kayakers and the the many ducks that frequent the lake! I took a water break in the shade at the picnic tables and then headed back the way I came. On Wednesdays parking is free!

A scenic and cool in summer place

By Barbara R |

Great place to fish, take dogs for a walk or picnic. If you want someone else to cook, check out the restaurant on the north shore.

Great, multi-feature outdoor activity area close to downtown Prescott

By Rich R |

At the North end, there is the Lynx Lake Cafe, picnic areas and boat rentals. At the South end, there is camping and boat ramps. Additional camping sites are on the West side between the North and South ends. There are 2 entries to the area off of Walker road. Gayle and I especially like the hiking trail around the lake. Not sure of the distance. The hike is easy and would take an hour or two depending on how many stops you need or want to take. Birders will probably notice cormorants, hawks and other species around the lake. Bait is available on the North end near the cafe.

Hidden Treasure

By Cheryl E |

Beautiful lake with nice trails just a few minutes from town. You can walk or hike, rent kayaks, or fish. Small general store and German restaurant that has tasty food, though it isn't open every day.

Enjoyable experience

By 792burtg |

Temperature was about 15 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The nights were down in the 60s. The campsites are clean and level. The fire pit worked great. It is an easy walk down to the lake. The campsites are set in a beautiful pine forest.

Enjoyable Loop Hike

By ilindac |

I like Lynx Lake because the loop is mostly shaded. It is an easy hike that I think is about 3 miles. Half of the trail is paved and the other half is dirt and rocks. A baby stroller can go on the paved half, but I think it is a little too rugged for a stroller on the dirt/rocky portion of the trail. Not just because of the dirt and rocks, but because sections of the trail are a bit narrow. There are several other trails at Lynx Lake, but I have not hiked them. My dog loves the trail!

Fun to be had.

By AJVaughnDOTcom |

We've been coming here for 20+ years on and off. Its wonderful for hiking and water activities. Family friendly and very picturesque.

A Beautiful Mountain Lake in the Ponderosa Pines

By DeeAnn M |

Surprisingly close to Prescott, and complete with campground, fishing, boating, boat ramps (not high speed), picnic tables and excellent hiking trails (some parts handicap-accessible), Lynx Lake is a great place to spend a day. Local resident especially enjoys hiking the trail that circles the lake, approximately 3 miles in length. Great views of the surrounding mountains, plenty of water birds to see, surrounded by a Ponderosa Pine forest.

Great hiking and picnicking

By K C |

Lynx Lake Is where I take my dog for a long hike. She loves to play in the water. It’s a great place for children and a great place for family picnics and get together’s. There are even camp sites for those who would like to bring their RV or throw up a tent. You can also rent canoes and go out on the lake however there is no fishing. For a small five dollar fee you can have a wonderful day outing!

Breathtaking surroundings

By Tammy T |

Wish we could have stayed more than an hour or so to explore (and that I had brought suitable footwear to do some hiking). I will definitely return, maybe with a picnic lunch. A beautiful setting and the trails seem like they would be in the beginning to intermediate category, not a lot of elevation. Highly recommend, even if only for a photo op and a quick stroll around.

Great little spot for a little lake and shade time. Sweet little lake for kayaking and nice shady picnic areas. Lots of little coves to duck into for a quiet lunch and some can be accessed by the trail that goes all the way around the lake.

Pretty little lake

Drove over from hotel, nearby, to check out the lake. Nice spot surrounded by trees. Picnic areas, canopies, rest rooms available. We only stayed a little while, but there were people fishing, others strolling around the lakeside and the grassy areas.

Lynx Lake is a local "outdoor recreation" park with a gorgeous little lake at its center, with canoes for rent and lots of trails to be hiked.

Gorgeous lake

By Charle |

Most of the area around Prescott was barren, or so we thought, We had been to two lakes and the wonderful zoo but saw only open land and no trees. On our last day -while driving out we decided to stop by the Lynx Lake just to say we saw all the close by lakes. Only 15 min from our hotel in the opposite direction from where we had been exploring was this beautiful lake with acreage of pine trees.
Beautiful clean and private campsites. Next visit I’m camping 😉.

Another great lake and recreation area

By Helen P |

Another beautiful lake and forest. Beautiful trails and view. Plenty of pines and fishing. Nice for families.

Easy accessible hike

By Wanda R |

Water level was low and the dam was dry, but the scenery on this hike was beautiful. The paths were paved in most places. The lake is becoming known as an Eagle attraction, and we were lucky to see one perched high on a tree across the lake. Always a thrill to see an Eagle. We will go again.

Beautiful Scenery

By Holly Z |

Beautiful place to hike, bird watch and enjoy the scenery. Half of the trail is paved making it an easy hike for almost everyone. Other half of the trail is natural - still a fairly easy hike, but more challenging than the paved area. It is approximately 3 miles around the lake.

Great area for hiking, picnics, RVs, & bald eagle sightings- fishing & boating as well. Quaint German restaurant nearby nestled amongst the ponderosa pines. Lots of birdlife-great blue herons, geese, ducks and bald eagles. A delightful place in the high Sonoran desert at one mile high so not too hot in the summer.

You can enjoy an easy hike that takes you around the entire lake (except for certain times of the year when the east side of the trail is closed while eagles nest). Non-motorized or boats with electric motors are allowed on the lake for recreation and fishing. There is a picnic area adjacent to the parking lot. National Forest Service pass covers the fee.

We parked up at the entrance close to the restaurant and took the trail all the way around the lake. Lynx lake is very scenic, wish we could have been there to camp. Really nice campground. There is a boat rental here but not open yet, I'm guessing too early in the season.

Beautiful & Sort of Easy Trek!

By FredOH69 |

We wanted an easy relaxing trek around the lake. And Lynx almost offers it!
The scenery is beautiful as you walk around the lake. There are at least three different ducks .... unfortunately eager to be fed by people who do not understand interfering with nature is wrong.
The easy trail continues around the lake but to the very far east it was somewhat of a challenge because of the ice. So caution is a must! Do not worry at this part of the lake the water is pretty shallow... your slide will be a short one. )))
Plenty of places to sit and relax.... and definitely worth it to bring food and stay longer.

Beautiful hike at the lake; camping OK

By Adrian M |

The hiking path around the lake is easy and well-maintained; some of it is even paved. Many ducks and other birds live here. We saw an osprey, coots, herons, woodpeckers, cormorants, bluebirds, ducks and geese. We also hiked trail 95, which was not very shaded as we had hoped. A nature center with good maps and trail descriptions and advice would have been nice, but I don't think there is one.
Our campsite was spacious and included a picnic table. However, there was no water. Even the provided toilets were vault (not flush). No sinks, no showers. Even the well was not dependable on the weekend we were there. Good thing we brought water!
We walked from our campsite to the Lynx Lake Cafe, which was very popular (and a bit on the expensive side). We had dinner off of the Oktoberfest (German) menu, and it was authentic and good. Wine and beer are served at a very fair price.

Great walk around the lake

By daym2013 |

This is a nice place to walk around in. The path is lined with trees on one side of the lake which gives lots of shade. I would recommend an early morning hike. Bring water and trail mix or protein bars if you intend do walk around the whole lake.

Nice recreation area & views

By Heidi R |

We've been to this area a couple times. We rented a boat to spend some time on the lake with our kids. They had a great time feeding the ducks and being out on the water. The walk around the lake was very peaceful. The German food at the restaurant is excellent as well.

Lynx Lake, Prescott, AZ - Trail 311

By GrandTour670085 |

My husband and I hiked Lynx Lake Trail No. 311, which goes all the way around the lake. It took about 80 minutes, and was an easy, lovely walk. We started at the north end parking lot and took the trail along the east side. This section of the trail is a dirt path with quite a few rocks and tree roots - good walking shoes recommended. At the south end, you turn onto a blacktop path along the west side that is easier going. But definitely not handicapped accessible.

Pan for gold on your next visit to Arizona!

By Gramma Corn |

Lynx Lake has been a gold panning attraction since before AZ was a state. There are places marked along the trail where panning if still allowed. It's also a lovely easy hike around the lake. Some visitors must be finding treasure as there were cars parked alongside the road near the panning areas.

Good gateway trip

By NavinPuri |

We decided to visit lynx lake with a large group of 25+ with kids from 2 to 15 year old. It's a good full day trip trip from Phoenix. As it was a long weekend, traffic was heavy and there was patches when road were clogged.
It's worth a visit and I you are foodie like me then carry raw material to cook on a Barbeque. Carry your fishing rod with folding chair. There is only one Restaurent and has a decent menu.
Walking around the lake is a 60 to 90 minute activity. Remember to carry 5$ in loose for parking fee.

Nice lake and trails

By Bonnie C |

I read about this prior to visiting. You do pay a parking fee but I don’t think there is a time limit. Park opens at 6am. There is a trail that goes around the lake. Very nice.

You won't regret it!!

By tiger l |

Me and my boyfriend went for the day, very beautiful, fresh and open. The German restaurant was really good I have been here about 4 other times my family live's near the lake, so beautiful, good prices in the restaurant and for the peddle boarding rentals and kayaking. A great family place, camping is awesome very clean and open with a nice picnic table and fire pit. $5 fee per vehicle which isn't bad beautiful scenery throughout the drive up there not very far but far enough for some R&R. We loved it!

Great camp site!

By Scott H |

I was looking for a good camp site on my trip from Southern California to Sedona and wanted to stay in the Prescott area. I selected Lynx Lake campground and was so impressed. The camp site had a groomed area for the tent that was level and smooth. There was a nice picnic table to eat on, clean water nearby, and clean toilets. The camp sites were spread apart and the surrounding area has nice trees and brush. This is a quality campground.

Lynx creek ruins

By jmes h |

As you enter the recreation area on Walker Rd you see signs to Lynx Creek Ruins,,,turn left and go about 1/2 mile to a fee parking area. The hike is only .75 mile in, 1.5 mile round trip. Its a very pleasant hike, mostly flat with modest elevation to a high point with an elevated viewing platform. The ruins are really ruined,,,,a pile of rocks really. There are several sign boards along the trail to tell you a bit about the native people who lived there. there are also several benches along the trail.
I had already hiked 4.5 miles and found this a very nice conclusion to my day, pretty red flowers along the way..do it.

It is a nice place to kayak

By Quadyak |

Checked Lynx Lake out a few years ago for a future kayak run and finally made it back. Very nice tree lined lake and very scenic to paddle. Not too crowded on our weekday visit even though it was the "free Wednesday". Not a big lake but paddling the perimeter resulted in just over 2 miles. Took our time and very much enjoyed the scenery. On and off was easy and parking very close. Nice place.

Great Camping With A View

Located within the National Forest this recreation area is just that a fun place for individuals, couples, and families to camp and enjoy a beautiful lake hidden within the pines.

Nice park setting

We arrived shortly before sunset and enjoyed a relaxing walk on shoreline trail. What little we got to experience suggests this is a nice place for family activities

Family friendly with lots of things to do. Trails are easy with beautiful views of the lake. The Cafe has great food and friendly service. Rent a boat or canoe and enjoy the lake. Off road trails are available.

We enjoyed a couple of miles of hiking around the lake over the holidays. The parking was easy, trails were maintained, and we had the fortune of perfect weather.

Hidden Beauty

Take a walk around the lake cleans your mind out for a moment or two. Beautiful walking paths easy for beginners. This hidden area is just a few min. from main area turn south on the road next to Costco. If in Class A motorhome some sites are way too small. Sometimes a double pull thru will work just have to pay extra it worth the money. Fire pits, grills, some have covered areas.

Beautiful Mountain Lake

This lake is just a few miles from downtown Prescott. Boating (no gas motors), Fishing, Hiking and just relaxing in the cool pine air. You may see turtles and many birds including Bald Eagles at certain times of the year. Picnic areas as well. It is a National Forest Lake so there is a fee ($5.00) unless you have the Senior Pass.

Old Childhood Play Area

My mom took us p there as little kids and she spent her high school years up in this area - however, it is not the same. The lake is still nice but not going back into Walker area as we did as kids. People now have fences everywhere and No Trespassing signs - nobody is friendly at all! If you want to just go to the lake - that is still fun; picnic area and overnight camping. Mom has been going up there since 1956 but doesn't want to any more - too much change and not for the better.

Hideout from hurried

Thought you knew that Prescott was a arid, desert habitat? Guess again. This set of trails located right behind a strip mall and subdivision provide a great getaway through the Prescott National Forest. Kudos!

Beautiful and easy trail

By Faith G |

One half of the walk is comprised of a very easy, mostly paved, trail. Lots of shade and beautiful views of the lake. Unfortunately, the other half is quite rough and difficult to follow. Additional trail markers would be a big help for people not familiar with the area.

Nice and clean lake / area. Restrooms. Parking lot close. Enough tables in the shade. Crowded on the weekends. Nice sand beach

Nice Hike

This is a great place for a peaceful hike around the lake. Half of the trail is paved, and half is a bit rocky but nothing strenuous. The normal parking fee is $5.00 but on Wednesdays, it’s free.

Lovely Lake With Nice Hiking

By Rich B |

My wife and I hike here at least once a week. It is a lovely lake and the hiking is very nice. You can go all around the lake, with one half of the trail paved and the other half not. There are also trails that head out into the woods. All the trails that we have tried are easy with just a few steeper hills on the wooded ones.

Relaxing 2 mile hike around lovely mountain like

West side of the lake is paved and handicap accessible half. Eastside is well-traveled earthen path. Total mileage approximately 2 miles. We often enjoy picnics at the north parking lot there are several tables and grills overlooking the lake. Eagle platform on the north east side of the lake. No Eagles this year. Hopefully they Will nest 2017

Beautiful Scenic Walk around Lynx Lake

I like to walk around Lynx Lake in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Beautiful path around the lake. Very slight inclines and rough patches. Overall a pretty relaxing easy walk with beautiful views. I've also brought my son and his family here. We rented a small rowboat and enjoyed looking at the birds, the turtles, and surrounding nature.

Peaceful Hike

The first good part of this trip was that we were there on a Wednesday, which happens to be a Free Admission day! The bathrooms were clean, but there was no soap. The path around the like started as a sidewalk and turned into a fun hike through the woods close to the lake. My husband and I had a scenic 50 minute workout!

Not worth the price to park

Decided it was not worth it to pay for parking, so we took a hike instead But it seemed nice if you had the time.
