We stopped by Makai Glass by chance and was so glad we did! Beautiful pieces of art and we even got to watch one of their live glass blowing demonstrations. So cool!

By Angela R |

I first saw wave glass at one of the galleries on Front Street in Lahaina and it spoke to my soul! It also started around $1200 which did NOT speak to my bank account. I was so happy to find Randy Shaffer and Makai glass at an art fair and was able to bring home a gorgeous piece of art that will forever remind me of Maui. Randy was kind enough to sign my piece and suggest a beautiful live-edge wood lighted stand. It makes my soul happy every time I see it on the table in my home!

Makai glass creations are beautifully and skillfully made. Watching the artists work is amazing. I loved seeing their little intricate work. But the artists/sales people seemed a little high pressure to get you to buy something. Their art glass ranges from pricey (a few hundred $) to super expensive (several thousand $$$$$). Just kinds ruins the vibe.

By Beth D |

Don't miss the opportunity to watch beautiful glass art created before your eyes
Makai Art has a team of talented glass artisans that create amazing works.
You can purchase in the showroom but take time to watch these artisans create a piece from a blob of glass

By Lbewley |

Not only is the drive and location of this facility awesome, The staff is very kind and will walk you through the studio to show the displayed works of art they have created through their glass blowing techniques. Items such as glass sculptures, whales, dolphins, waves, turtles, bar lights or pendant lighting, etc. All done with the new techniques and tools. We got to see their team of 5 work on a new sculpture from start to finish. amazing how they work together to finish a beautiful piece. We went up to their 2nd floor and could watch from above as they worked on this.

By Dano1946 |

Have not seen skill like this since i was in Austria. A must see . Gorgeous creations and live glass blowing

By BAppelt1 |

We had the chance to go thru the Makai Glass factory and we were impressed. The location is a combination store and glass works operation. You can see some of their works on display as well as watch them create new ones. If you are looking for something unique to visit while you are on Maui, then Makai Glass is where you should go.

By Clay S |

The incredible pieces of glass art and amazing. I loved the lighted whales. Sadly I will never be able to afford them, but that did not stop me from admiring them.

The did have a lighted whales tale at 300 to 400 dollars, still beautiful.

You get a chance to see them making stuff, incredible artist.

This place has amazing and breathtaking glass works and glass blowing demonstrations. Worth checking out!

By Kari C |

Wow was this place amazing. Upon entering, there is a small room with samples of their work which much of is very pretty. But wait until you go into the next room (air conditioned!) and get to see the pieces illuminated! Gorgeous! The real show is from upstairs - a topside view of the artists rolling, dying, firing, blowing "blobs" of glass. One of the owners (artists) spent quite a bit of time with us explaining the process, techniques, etc all while patiently answering a multitude of questions. His passion was readily apparent. A project they were working on was turtles. Watching the transformation of a "blob" of glass into a fin for a turtle was truly mesmerizing. Be warned - it is extremely hot in here with all the super high heat equipment. Bring some water! What a neat experience! Mahalo!!!

We heard about this glassblowing factory but just stumbled upon it one day on Maui. I cannot fully describe how beautiful their creations are. There is a 2 story art display area and you can watch from the second floor the staff making various glass items below. They are true artists with glass.

By mkapur2016 |

They have an amazing collection of glass sculptures in beautiful colors and shapes - some creations are just awesome. Glad that I visited the art gallery while waiting for the pineapple tour.

By Mike D |

We did not see the artist working but the quality found here is very nice and at a lower cost by the resorts.

I had the good fortune to meet Randy Schaeffer who's one of the owners of Makai glass A year ago here on Maui we bought one of his large whale pieces which is internally lit and have it displayed prominently in our home it is without a doubt one of those gorgeous glass pieces I own. His customer service and that of his people is above anybody else's I ever dealt with. Since my wife and I are in Maui every six months we had the opportunity of running into him. He always remembers my name is always polite is always gracious and he's always accommodating. This trip we made a journey out to his blowing studio and were impressed with the facility as well as his outstanding pieces he is on display. We bought yet another large piece from him this time a turtle and can't wait to get it delivered to our home when we return. We own other blown glass pieces from Chuhuilly as well as Rosin. I would put Randy's talent up with anybody else's. If you were in Maui and are looking for an incredible piece of blown glass do yourself a favor and seek out Makai glass

Have brought many visitors to here to watch the artists blowing glass. On our last visit this year we bought a piece to take home. Spent two hours watching our turtle being made and amazed and the teamwork involved with making the bigger pieces. It was like watching a dance. Even if you cannot afford their work they are worth watching and seeing the finished products. Justin and his team are amazing and the rest of the staff is friendly. Pieces ranging from a few dollars to thousands of dollars but all made by the same artists.

By jsimmill |

We happened across the Makai Glass studio and were absolutely impressed with the work being created by the artists! The group worked as a team, with everyone knowing their part in the creative process and the end result (a humpback whale surfacing from the water) was absolutely beautiful!

By conrad4290 |

Gorgeous glass art. Probably way too expensive to purchase for most folks, but go just to appreciate the art.

By Leslie Linda T |

To see them make art out of glass is amazing it looks like an assembly line...
This is a must see they are true artist's

By Haithem |

The glass work is very creative and detailed. Simply beautiful pieces of art. We were not fortunate enough to see the artisans at work, but would have been very interesting to see. Their store manager Tony was very helpful and friendly - and happy to share information about their operation or any aspect of visiting Maui.

By Sean H |

We stumbled on this place going through town on a bike ride. We bought all our family presents here! Very cool watching them make glass art while your in the store shopping. Worth stopping in!

By NedT |

This is a fun and educational place to visit. While you get to witness old world glass blowing you also see some wonderful art made by Randy and his team and friends.

By Wayne F |

I have seen glassblowing from Lawrence, KS to Murano, Italy and I have never seen anything to surpass this studio.

By Dennis |

Well, this will not be short but do not hesitate to read it all. It began d.c. uring a heavy rain. My wife asked me to take her for a ride to visit Makai Glass Creations studio.

Cutting it short, she fell in love with the artist(Randy Shaffer) and the work of his entire team. We visited them at the art fair near the Westin frequently. Never thought I would find my home blessed with Makai glass but ... All Is Well. This art will be in our family for generations and we could not be happier with Randy, his team and their artistry.

Do yourself a favor, Do Not visit Maui and miss Makai Glass Creations. We will be back for more. Find yourself a piece that will help you remember Hawaii. You will remember Randy, I promise. Did I tell you my wife adores him? Well she does. I understand, he is a talented young man. Go for it, then dine across the street. Could life be better? No Way!

By Robin F |

INCREDIBLE. The artistry. Glass blowing demonstrations. Art gallery. Glass art gallery. Lots of awesome glass for purchase. We bought a wave a sea shell and a tiny octopus. They do ship all over the world

By Benizziranch |

Found this place on accident while going to the HM General store. So glad we dropped in. It's great fun watching them making pieces of art right before your eyes. The whole set up is impressive, and the art on display is beautiful. It's a bit pricey to purchase pieces, but once you watch one being made, you'll understand. We also appreciated the story of the artist and his upbringing. Bring your camera, you'll want some pictures of the guys working!

By oldfart5 |

Between looking at and buying the fabulous creations, getting to watch the artists in action is amazing.

By nancycraigmo5 |

We had just had lunch at The General Store, where we noticed some beautiful glass on display. Our server told us it came from the glassblower's studio across the street, and since we had some time before heading up to Haleakala for sunset, we decided to check it out. Randy Schaffer, the artist, greeted us warmly and showed us his creations. His pieces are extraordinarily beautiful, using color and light in unexpected and stunning ways. He spent a lot of time with us, showing us how he created certain effects and sharing his love of his craft. We purchased a piece from his Storm series, and are so pleased to have had the experience of meeting the artist and learning about his work. This is an essential stop for anyone who loves art glass.

By D. Matthew |

The art pieces they produce are large but delicate and detailed that seem to glow. The viewing area is above the work studio so you have a Birds Eye view of their production process. From start to finish the process of working with 2100° molten glass is mesmerizing! The transformation from glob at the end of a punty stick or blow pipe to a gorgeous masterpiece can not be denied! They are maters at their craft!

By Robin V |

I took some visitors from the mainland to this glass shop, and I was fascinated! We spent 2 hours there, watching the artist making a vase, from start to almost finished (had to leave before it was done).
The studio set up is wonderful - there is a balcony where you sit and look down at the artists creating below. Seeing how the teams work together reminded me of a choreographed dance - each one knowing what the other one will need or do, supporting each other, preparing for the next step. Knowing the danger of them working with HOT glass provides the tension, so at times you are on the edge of your seat.
Makai Glass has nice display rooms downstairs, where you can see the variety of their work - and the difference their well placed lights make.
This is well worth your time - if you only have 15 minutes, you can look at their gallery, but if you have the time, plan on 2 hours or so. They also have paintings displayed, so a great variety of eye candy!

By angelawells2018 |

The shop is full of spectacular glass creations! I think the jellyfish were the most interesting. We were able to sit and watch the creation of two items. They explained what they were doing as they were going through the process. Very cool experience for my kids.

By David R |

This place has one of the best glass galleries that I’ve seen. We spent about an hour there looking around. The best thing was watching the professional glass blowers do their magic. We happen to be there when two people were working on different projects. It really helped my teenager boys understand what it takes to make such awesome pieces of art. The only thing I wish is that I brought cash. They have a tip jar near the viewing stage for the people working there. The guys doing the glass work were explaining to us each step as they were doing it. This was definitely worth stopping by on our way to the upcountry.

By nchandler6562016 |

We enjoyed watching the glass blowers. They told us what they were doing and what they were making. We watched the whole thing. It was really neat to see. They have some beautiful things. Very expensive but fun to watch

By Tim P |

This is an awesome place to visit right next door to the Maui Pineapple tour. Vincent was our guide around the studio, we saw amazing things being created and breathtaking displays in the gallery. I would highly recommend this place!

By Karen D |

We visited this time with our 9 yr old granddaughter and our daughter. Its our third visit and have brought home something wonderful each time! Their work is simply beautiful. We watched the glass blowing for awhile as Bella was enchanted. Even in the heat we could have stayed for hours. Don't pass up a visit - and treat yourself to a purchase!

By Teresa G |

This gallery and glass blowing studio is amazing. There is a wide variety of functional and sculptural art glass pieces as well as paintings and wood carved sculptures. The balcony in the gallery offers a wonderful view of the hot shop below and a person can watch glass pieces being made. One of the shop owners also showed us some examples of how the different techniques are created in the glass pieces. Absolutely beautiful and amazing work!

By Jodi T |

Absolutely stunning pieces! Extremely pricey though. Didn't get to see any glass blowing, but enjoyed looking at the completed pieces.

By Rita B |

Artistic whales, conch shells, waves, and jellyfish sit atop bases with LED lights that illuminate and highlight the colorful pieces. There are chandeliers, lamps, trees, drinking glasses, wine stoppers, necklaces and much more to view. Prices reflect the amount of work involved in creating each piece. If you need something custom-made, their design team will work with you to bring your idea to fruition. Upstairs, you can sit and watch the artisans at work with the kilns, tools, and tables in full view. This is a wonderful place to visit if you appreciate art glass. They ship their pieces world-wide. Their website does not show the full range of their designs, so visit their gallery/workshop when you visit the upcountry portion of Maui

By MDLuckydog |

We called ahead at 1:30 pm to make sure the glass blowers would be there through the afternoon. The nice man on the phone assured us that they would be there until 6:00 pm. So we drove up to Makawao, arrived at 2:45, and learned that the glass blowers decided to take the rest of the afternoon off. Very disappointing, since we had called ahead.

On the plus side, the glass ion display in the gallery is beautiful, but expensive. But hey, if you're in the market for a $30,000 night night light ....

By Sahwul |

Support local artists! This was an easy and fun activity. My daughter and I went and made a beautiful starfish! I recommend going here and getting lunch nearby or hanging at the beach up on hwy 30.

By Yolanda S |

We came across this studio after doing the distillery tour next door. It was fascinating to see the artisans at work, from the balcony viewing area upstairs. You could sit for ages, watching a piece take shape. The gallery was full of lovely pieces; we especially liked the jellyfish and the waves. They even offered to take CND $ at par, which is a real deal!

By geemag |

Well worth dropping in, relaxing while you have your breath taken away by the artistry of the glassblowers!

By 2TropicsTravelers |

This is the coolest place! We were invited by friends to visit this studio and gallery and had the best time. The artists are very friendly, welcoming and the studio is open to watch them working. Amazing! The most beautiful glass artwork I have ever seen. They also include art from other local artists, so everywhere you turn, there is something beautiful to look at. And the best part is, everything is for sale, so you can bring home a truly unique memory of your trip.

By speedster400 |

We stopped by to see the live glassblowing and were wowed by the process and the pieces that were on display. We ended up buying a whale tail a couple days later because we were so amazed by these creations.

By dem0502 |

Walked into this place waiting for pineapple tour to start. I’ve been to several glass blowing places and this place was typical. Nice place and pretty pieces. If glass art is your thing then worth a stop. I have no idea what prices were. Never asked.

By Kathy H |

Great stop espesially when the artists are working and you can watch the glass blowing. Some really amazing pieces.

By Mom_2_the_4th_Power |

We arrived too late to view the glass blowing but we're able to see many of the gorgeous pieces on display. Very expensive, with good reason. Well worth the stop if only to ogle at the craftsmanship.

By Ann D |

Wow.... we jusr arrived in time to watch the end of them making a breaching whale out of glass. You can watch them from upstairs, looking down over the glass blowing area. A team of three glass blowers was working on this project, they explaned to us it takes about 2.5 hours to make it. They showed great craftmanship and excellent teamwork! They have lots of beautiful artwork on display. Definitely worth a visit!

By PuravidavidS |

Interesting attraction in upcountry Maui. We watched and shot photo's and videos of glass blowing artists from gallery loft above ovens and work space. Located in a large quonset hut, there is a gallery on ground level in front, and glass blowing area at the back. Staff was helpful and informative. Many beautiful works are available for purchase, and custom objects can be commissioned. This was a nice stop on the way to Makawao and Kula. Conveniently located across the road from Hailiimaile General Store restaurant and gift shop.

By Smulorpamarken |

We were going to the restaurant next door and had to wait for it to open so we popped in to see this place. Super friendly people and pretty displayed art. Also fun to see the live glass blowing. Well worth a visit!
Looking back at my photos I regret not purchasing a pineapple :)

By jimnretha |

We spent about 45 minutes watching them ..... amazing work and awesome products. There was no pressure to buy....just really a good experience

By Lily826 |

We found out about Makai Glass from trip advisor and decided to check them out. We got to watch one their artists create a whale tail which turned out beautiful. The glass pieces here are all beautiful. We found a turtle we fell in love with. One of the sales associates (Danny?) took us to a back room where we got to choose our stand and color for our turtle. We waited 2 weeks for our turtle (now named Maui) and he is absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend this place to visit

By Rubytas4me |

If you love glass you will love this factory... some very special pieces of glass art waiting for you to take home (quite expensive but worth the money due to exquisite craftsmanship)... watch the artists at work...free entry

By Juanna C |

We had to search a little to find the location of this shop (walked through a gallery to get there) but was not disappointed. The crafts are amazing and would love to have some at home but too expensive for me. Unfortunately the glass blowing machine was out of commission when we were there and so we were unable to view the production. In any case, we still very enjoyed looking at the glass work. The employee was very nice and helpful in answering our questions of the process.

By brujef |

Their glass is beautiful. Stopped here completely unexpected. What a pleasant surprise. Beautiful work on display. Love how they have created items to be illuminated underneath. A wonderful addition to their art. Dan spent so much time with us explaining the process. Got to meet the artist as well. Finally broke down and purchased a blue wave that is lit from the piece of local wood that it sits on. Looking forward to receiving it soon. Thank you again Dan for your time. Look forward to stopping in on a return trip to Maui.

By MikeJennyQ |

One of those places you cruise by, just find and are glad you stopped in. Great glasswork and colors inventive and wonderfully made. Sort of a museum level glass art shop but all for sale and very high caliber

By Lisa H |

We sat and watched how they do the glass blowing. It was fascinating to see.I would go here again when in town. So many beautiful pieces.

By Hilda B |

It was raining on our last day in Maui and we were early for our dinner reservation so we decided to stop in. Were invited to watch the glass blowers. Fascinating. The glass creations are so beautiful - some are breathtaking. Tony showed us a pair of owls they were just getting ready to mail to a client. So lifelike and beautifully mounted on wooden branches. There is a great variety of different work from whales to decorative bowls in different sizes and price ranges. We bought a medium size whale tail and got it home safely and just love it. Hope to go back next year and find a mate for it!

By Mark S |

Lovely glass and wood sculptures and creations. Shells, sea life, etc. Amazing the things that can be made with glass! Friendly staff and go upstairs to view the glass making area.

By cswestmd |

We bought a "Hawaiian Wave" to take home to Bermuda! Absolutely gorgeous! An amazing memory of out time in Maui. Wonderful to see how the piece was made, and also to have the artist personally sign it for us.

By RonBrenda_12 |

Beautiful pieces of art, but too expensive for the average traveler. It was very educational to watch them make the pieces.

By S R |

You'll get an up close view of glass blowing in action by incredibly talented artists. Fascinating process and absolutely stunning work. Make sure you go into the 'wow!' room (a darkened room with finished works of glass art illuminated). Cannot say enough about these artists and the beautiful creations they make.... A must see if you love colour, light and one-of-a kind creations! (Addition to your trip- Be sure to stop for a bite to eat at the General Store restaurant across the street to top off your tour).

By Kait S |

Always amazing when you get to see how things are done
Really friendly, so glad they were okay with us staring at them as they worked
Gallery is gorgeous but completely unaffordable for us, if you have extra money tho they will ship it home for you

By RE M |

See glass made into art. Amazing island art both small and very large pieces. Loved the whales, turtles, and wave pieces....the colors were beautiful.

By JillandMarkM |

My husband and I were headed into Makawao for dinner - we arrived at the restaurant early and they were not open. We spied a neon “open” sign across the road at a hanger type building and thought we would check it out. We stumbled upon Makai Glass Creations. We were greeted as we entered the show room and asked if we wanted to see the artists in action.
We were ushered to the back of the building where chairs were set up for viewing. A team of artists were working on a customer order of a humpback whale. As club music pumped though the room the 5 artists worked in perfect precision. They were mesmerizing to watch. They worked without speaking a word. Each member of the team had a duty and anticipated the next move. It was such an incredible process to watch this glass whales creation. We watched the team work for about an hour as they put the final touches on the piece. I can’t express in words the awe we were in watching this. Makai glass creations creates amazing art. They have beautiful pieces in their showroom. I would highly recommend a visit to watch these master at work. We purchased a glass shell and it was the perfect piece of Maui to take home.

By travelengolfer |

The most beautiful Glasswork I have seen, just stunning! Make sure you visit the studio and see all the creations. Went to Makawao to visit a jewelry store and happened across the gallery. Just a nice getaway to see the truly creative artists in this quaint town. Worth the 15 minute trip time from Paia. I will be back on our next trip!

By Mike W |

Very neat that you can watch the process from over a balcony. No prices on items and that is my only complaint. Yes they are very expensive. After seeing the process you do understand why. Beautiful work

By smilesesq |

We had a distillery tour next door at the Haili'imaile Distillery but had 15 minutes to spare before our dinner reservations across the street at Haili'imaile General Store. Thus, we ducked into the Makai Glass Creations gallery and were blown away.

The first floor looks like a typical gallery with stunning glass creations (and in many colors). We saw a few folks head upstairs so we followed them. That's when we realized there was a "balcony" overlooking a workshop where glass artists work. When we arrived at 4:45, the shop was already done for the day. One of the artists saw about 15 of us upstairs and explained that he would not be making anything else but he could do a quick demo. He took some hot molten glass and demonstrated how it drips and then solidifies rather quickly when it's quite thin. He also blew a second piece of hot molten glass and then shattered it against the floor. My kids and I were in awe! I just wish we could have seen an artist make something!

My youngest daughter stopped to admire a small blue wave crashing (with white foam). It was about 3-4" high and cost $40. I can't even imagine how much the large pieces cost.

All in all, I would totally return and definitely will make more time for it on a subsequent trip to Haili'imaile General Store.

By Joan88 |

We have watched the artists blow glass here before and the work is amazing. This time, we stopped by the jewelry case and I was very taken by a simple south sea black pearl on a silver chain. I started to walk away, but it called me back! I had to know it was out of my price range...lo and behold, it wasn't! I was thrilled that I asked! Hand made art too! Precious and a great gift for myself for 120 dollars! Highly recommend!!!

By bill berezowitz |

AMAZING pieces of art!
We bought two and wanted more!!!
Owner Randy and his right-hand salesman Tony were super guys to talk with.
We enjoyed watching some of the other artists at work and hearing how intricate the process is to create their beautiful artwork.
They also have Kona wood bases and ability to light up the art from inside- beautiful.
Definatley worth a stop and a $$ spend!!

By Beader_Girl |

It had a nice variety of blown glass in a beautiful studio,
excellent for souvenirs or gifts. They also give demonstrations of their glassblowing techniques.

By 941rockeye |

Incredible talent and artistry. You watch them make the art from an observation area above. The glass is expensive but by buying direct you would save from retail. Interesting and free visit.

By KevinAGould |

They have very unique glass pieces. The glass blown waves are unique. The galley over the where you can watch the glass blowers is fascinating. Close to two Maui attractions so it is definitely worth the drive. Across the street from Hali’imaile General Store.

By Mark P |

I'll just jump out there to say that we didn't buy anything, but we REALLY enjoyed our time browsing. The artwork is INCREDIBLE and we also got to watch them working with glass in the back of the studio. Fascinating!

By Rita F |

We had the privilege of watching a team of artists at work today as they created a glass turtle in what I can only describe as performance art. The smooth flow of people heating and shaping a masterpiece, set to music, was something I'll never forget. I live on Maui and can't believe I have not visited Makai Glass previously.

By LSchumacher |

We walked in knowing that we could not buy any of the art. Nonetheless, we were offered wine, roasted macadamia nuts, and a primo view of the glass blowing. I did buy a simple little bottle stopper which I will treasure forever and will always remember this place. One day I will return and get something pricier!

By Randyman |

Watched them from start to finish and it’s a team effort for sure.
A simple piece took a 1/2 hour with 3 people so I can see why complicated pieces take a lot of sweat and time.
Some of the pieces are amazing works of art. Turtles, whales, waves and so much more.

By Paris B |

To see these creations created right before your eyes is amazing!! It is right next to the distillery and if you are in between tours, check it out. I wouldn't make a special drive, but would combine it with tour of pineapple and distillery.

By bobndee24 |

There is a gallery downstairs to see examples of glass blown art. When you go upstairs, there is a balcony with chairs where you can watch them blowing glass. There is no fee.

By Mickispa |

We took a quick walk through while waiting to do the tour at Haliimaile Distributing. Well, after that tour, we came straight back and fell in love with the artistry in this place. So many beautiful creations and so little money to spend, LOL! Jim, our "guy" gave us shots of Paniolo Brown Sugar Whiskey poured into their pretty shot tumblers...I say tumblers because these little shot glasses are huge! You know that bit of "fun" loosened up our wallet, right?! My sweet husband bought me a gorgeous whale tail on a pretty lighted base and I just love it. Be sure to check them out when you are in Maui. It will make your day!

By Scott M |

Had a great time the glassblowing was amazing!! Very cool and a lot of fun. I would recommend it to any artists out there that want to see some amazing talent and art.

By Judi D |

What a treat watching the staff blow a glass wave and a jellyfish.
My favorite show is Blown Away. Watching the experts blow glass in person was amazing.

By Cassandra C |

Wow, the glass blowing is amazing to watch. The couple, works together so nicely. They are polite and quiet.

By JessieViolet |

If I had known this place was so wonderful, I would have saved my pennies because there is so much unique artistry worth owning! But plenty of smaller pieces very affordable. And fun to watch them create it all right in front of you.

By Danna |

Features unique blown glass art sculptures inspired by the Hawaiian Islands. Each hand-sculpted glass piece carries its own unique magical quality that eliminates with "The spirit of Aloha" where ever showcased. They are mounted on Maui hardwood LED basis which illuminate the piece from Below. Be sure to stop by Makai studio and gallery and be mesmerized by the creative process of live hot glass blowing. Hours: 11am-6pm Mon - Sat

By Mike B |

Always like watching glass artisans at work. Their pieces are on the spendy side, but it's great to watch them work. The host is very pleasant.

By Peggy H |

Just got back from our first visit to Makai glass creations. We had a wonderful visit and our salesman, Dan, it was fabulous. Don't hesitate to take a trip up to Makawao and visit the studio. You can watch the artists create their fabulous pieces.

By Kathleen B |

If you're into blown glass - you must stop here! There are so many works of art to look at, and the work is happening in the back of the shop as you browse. Of course, they'll ship your purchase. This was a very welcome stop as a break from typical tourist shops. Support a local artisan and drop by here!

By Sue M |

Fun to watch these talented, creative people turn colorful glass into works of art. I bought a gorgeous glass "wave" that will remind me of the island, every time I look at it, and smile.

By Nancy J |

I’ve been an admirer or blown glass pieces after touring the factory on Murano, Italy. My husband and I decided to try creating our own piece. It was a little scary being around the molten glass, but our instructor was excellent. She walked us through the process first and let us use the tools before adding the liquid glass. Our piece now sits in a pride of place.

By orcasgal |

I love glass, and buy glass, but I passed this up. It was crudely heavy for the high pricing. It lacks the delicacy of older glass styles, even common Mexican animal blown glass. That said, it has a few pieces that would be conversation starters, with lights spreading color onto walls. The colors are vivid, which I like, but it needs more shading to the color next to it, not just parallel starkness.. This is not Chihuly, nor his pupils, nor Jason Gamrath, nor other Washington State artists, however.

By Thomas W |

We watched them make a glass plate. It looked as first they were making a bowl, but then at the end they flattened it out into a plate. Very interesting.

By Pixelpanderer |

This would be one of the first places I would visit after winning the lottery. The design and craftsmanship is astounding. The place to go if you are buying yourself one island present.

By marye2222017 |

What a special added treat to our outing! We happened on the glass artists and their beautiful creations. We toured the gallery and took advantage of the opportunity to watch the artists blowing glass and creating these amazing pieces of art. How very colorful, detailed and even back-lit pieces! Wow!

By Karen N |

Beautiful artwork to remember your trip to Maui.
Great selection easy location and parking is good, but busy area With all the shops around.

By Eliza D |

We came to makawao to do the pineapple tour and just happened across this hidden gem! We loved seeing all the unique and beautiful glass pieces made by this shop, and the live glass blowing was so cool! The artist making the pieces took time to explain what he was doing while he was creating them. Definitely recommend stopping by! It's also right across the street from the Halimaile General Store which has great reviews. You could do the pineapple tour, glass blowing shop and lunch in one visit.

By JHRedSox |

This was a fun excursion on a rainy beach day. Kids got to watch a pendant light being blown from beginning to end. We purchased a gorgeous whale tale that we will cherish forever. Recommended.

By kcorso |

These are real artists. The most impressive glass studio we've ever seen. Keep going back for more. Educational, friendly owners, artists and staff. Call ahead to find out when Randy and Justin are blowing. Unbelievable and beautiful!

This is a must see in my book! Its a little out of the way, but that gives you a chance to see a bit of open, undeveloped Hawaii on the way. The artist here works with glass. It is worthwhile to spend some time and watch him work. The is an area on the second floor where you can sit and watch him. What we saw was a three man operation, the artist, and two assistants. He was working a large piece of glass and it was fascinating to watch. The glass is put in a kiln or very hot oven for a short while, then is brought out, where he works its for a short time. It then goes back into the heat for a short while and is brought out again, and he works it some more. Its a balancing act to keep the glass soft enough to work, but not so soft that it that it falls on the floor like melting ice cream. On the first floor and, part of the second floor are many works by the the artist, which are for sale. Many pieces of the artist's work are also in a number of better quality art galleries around Maui. By the way, if you are going to the General Store Restaurant, it is across the street from this pace.

By James V |

This gallery-glass factory is a hidden gem. Entry is free into this hardly noticeable building across the street from the popular Haliimaile General Store Restaurant. The glass artworks in every possible color are unique and breathtaking. The gallery is on two levels with multiple rooms. Access to the warehouse is also possible for serious shoppers. One may observe form the second level the artists creating their glassworks.

By HeidiSiefkas |

Wonderful stop to see works of art being made. The glass studio has artists making pineapples, whale tails, and more. Plus, the gallery has a wide selection of paintings, glass pieces, and jewelry.

Another fun trip to see the new art at Makai Guy, these guys just Keep coming out with new creative pieces!
It is truly a highlight of our trip to Maui!
You must go and see this, pictures just are not the same as a in person look!
Lighting is everything!

We stumbled upon this on the back roads while looking for what we thought on the map was a grocery store that turned out to be a restaurant. However, across from the restaurant out in the middle of nowhere was a sign for Makai Glass Creations. This is where the Makai glass creations are made. There is a small showroom of absolutely incredible glass creations wayyy out of our price range but the people there couldn't have been more welcoming. We were given a tour of their warehouse where a variety of pieces for future glass creations such as chandeliers were stored. Then we were invited to an elevated viewing area to watch glass creations being made by a handful of young extremely talented folks. This is absolutely worth finding.

By Mitchell F |

Loved the creative glasswork, the photos and the ability to learn as artists created glass works. Fun part of town - across from a great restaurant - roaming roosters and hens along with pineapple and distillery tours - all in one spot.

By GigEmTravels |

Stumbled upon the action while walking around waiting for our pineapple tour to begin. The gallery is full of amazing pieces and upstairs, there is a balcony where you can watch them work and explain what they are doing. Wish I could afford one of their pieces, they are amazing!

By Jerry N |

Very interesting place and the people are friendly and helpful and more than happy to answer questions and make your visit one to remember

By AMD1212 |

We couldn't leave without taking a piece home with us. Wonderful service, and one of the artists took us back to their warehouse so we could compare and contrast between 6 similarly themed pieces. We ended up purchasing a one of a kind treasure that is being shipped to our home. Something unique for these artists is their use of light and lit wooden bases (a work of art in themselves) that really brings these pieces to life. Even if you are on a budget, it's worth stopping by!

By Stuart T |

Visited Maui during June of 2014 and while waiting for a tour of the nearby pineapple farm we were told to park in front of what turned out to be Makai Glass. The facility was closed unfortunately but we researched the studio online and made a trip back a few days later.

The piece we bought is the only memento of our trip besides pictures. We have bought glass all of the world including original Wyland and this piece is by far the most amazing. As we look at the piece in our home in Michigan we are struck by how the wave looks alive and in motion with snow in the background out of our window. Go the pineapple farm tour..enjoy a great lunch across the street at the Halilmaile General Store..stop in and see these amazing artists for desert ! It is awesome.

By Bruce S |

Nice viewing gallery. Art is great and very enjoyable to view. Fair warning... if you fall in love with a piece...Chihuly prices!

By Bill M |

Do stop in. Especially after Maui Gold Tour since you are right there. They are really friendly and do not try to sell you on stuff they make. You will want to buy it on your own as things are beautiful.

By Jaycee B |

Beautiful shop with really unique pieces. Out of our price range, but we got to watch them make a piece from the balcony. Staff was really welcoming and inviting. Check it out. It’s near the pineapple tour as well.

By Wendy R |

We had time to kill before our distillery tour and saw this place. They glass work was beautiful. They also have a place you could sit and watch new works of art being created. Love my glass pumpkin. They knew I was flying and wrapped it up very carefully for me. If you like glass work or need to kill time before the tour, you must stop in here.

By Courtney B |

Fantastic custom glasswork, and fun to watch the glass blowing process live. It has expanded its gallery to include fine art pieces from other local artists. Love Randy’s and all of his artist’s work! Will definitely come back.

By bergmand68 |

Wow!! The glass creations those guys make, WOW!!! Incredible ,beautiful . Randy and Justin are quite the artist!

By Brodiekat01 |

We try to stop in each year and see what is new. We have a few pieces from the artists. We stumbled upon this place a few years ago. It's fun and memorizing watching them blow glass. It's a little spendy, but will last a lifetime.

By Marriedonamauibeach |

We purchased a signature "wave". This piece is so incredibly beautiful. This piece is a focal point for all guests who enter our home.
Really a fun experience to watch all the artists create such beauty.
Make this a must see when on Maui.

By nikolaik |

We stopped in here after our Pineapple Tour next door. The glass art pieces were gorgeous. They had a really cool pineapple and I wished I could have afforded it. They also had an area where you could watch the artists work, but there were not in at the time we were there.

By Natasha |

Well worth the lovely drive to view their work. If you enjoy glass art at all you will fall in love with their pieces. They have beautiful displays as well as you can watch the team blow glass. They do amazing work!

By donnabaton |

We dropped in here briefly after taking a sunrise Haleakala Sunrise & Bike Tour. We were tired (up a 2 am) so we just took a quick walk through, but the glass sculptures were amazing. They have an upstairs observation deck & gallery with fans but it was pretty hot up there so we didn't watch for very long. You could stay as long as you like to watch the process.

By clf1967 |

We had some custom wall sconces and pendant lights made - the collaboration was great (via web meetings since we were back on the mainland) and they made our deadline for our contractor. There was a minor issue that we were going to resolve on a recent visit - the team was excellent at working with us for a solution and we ended up adding a beautiful whale tale to our collection as an outcome! Will definitely return on future trips and look to Makai if we have other custom design work needed - they embody Aloha!

By Pat M |

What a find! This place has fabulous glass artwork made right there in their shop. Not only can you see all of their creations, you can view the artists at work!

By John R |

Do not miss visiting this amazing and inspiring glass gallery. The quality of the huge selection of glass art is top notch. The gallery itself is expansive and thoughtfully laid out, with separate rooms and special lighting to show off the pieces. The balcony above the glass blowing area is the perfect perch to watch the mesmerizing creation process. Multiple artists collaborate here and seeing them work in harmony to turn glass into spectacular pieces is truly special. Make Makai a must stop when you are near this part of Maui.

By duffer47 |

Couldn’t believe how they had transformed and old warehouse type of building into an amazing gallery of their glass creations along with paintings and jewelry.

By Lbewley |

We have been to this facility on several occasions. You must go up on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday so that you can actually see them blowing glass and creating new sculptures and Wales and turtles etc. they have designed A loft area where you can view the procedure as they create their piece. We have watched them make a couple things all the way through. As well as storms are vases or sculptures, they also make glassware, lights, wall sconces, jewelry, and have artwork available as well.

By merlinsurrietrekker |

The building is unassuming from the outside, but step inside and view a display of incredible talent and beauty. Just try to pick out a favorite piece - there are so many incredible items to see and purchase. You can even go upstairs to the viewing balcony & watch the artists in action!

By Deborah597 |

Randy and Justin are amazingly talented artists. Randy even gave us a personal tour. We were fortunate to see them do a bit of work on one of those spectacular whales as well. The glass is beautiful watching them work with the glass is so interesting. Afterwards, you should walk across the street to the Hailiimaile General Store for an excellent meal.

By socforward |

Very impressive art. You can watch the artists at work from a balcony. It is next door to a distillery which was closed on Saturday. Check hours of places you are interested as several were not open on Saturday.

By David A |

Incredible glass in a working glass blowing studio. The owners are glass artisans. We watched for an hour and could have spent another. We purchase two pieces and could easily have walked out with many more. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. We also recommend the restaurant across the street.

By John Boy |

This place has a beautiful show room, the stuff is really special. I wish I could afford anything in there, maybe some day. You can also watch them make sometimes, staff is super friendly, it's worth checking out when they are making something, just to watch. its a really cool experience

By TravelinWith4Kids |

While waiting for our tour I wandered into the studio. I was blown away by the beauty of the work. There were so many pieces I wanted but a few in particular jumped out. I had to have them. They are going to ship them home for me and my one and only regret is that I didn't have a chance to meet the artist (who was working that day doing live demonstrations) and take a picture with him. That would have been a great addition to my vacation scrapbook. Talented people here with beautiful and unique keepsakes I will treasure.

By Spaceman58 |

We stopped here while waiting to take the tour at Haliimaile Distilling Company next door. We got to watching some glass art being made, and they have a lovely gallery for showing off their fantastic glass art. We enjoyed visiting!

By torpdo |

This is a store and an open area to watch glass blowing activity. There are pieces configured as waves, ocean life, trees, animals and wine stoppers to name a few. The owner was available to talk about the factory and the pieces made. The staff is extremely friendly. I was tempted to buy an owl but at $4000.00 but definitely outside my budget. I highly recommend visiting this place after the distillery.

By C B |

This was our favorite glass shop, and blowing on the island. Loved the pieces, and watching the artist work. The sales person up front during our visit was a little pushy.

By Jamie J |

Recommend looking in on the artists and their works. We were on a combo tour of Maui Gold Pineapples and a distillery tour and we found this workshop/gallery. Several beautiful works on display with at least one of the artist ready to explain how they created their piece. You can observe them working on current pieces from a loft area. It is a little warm in there but worth the heat to watch molten glass be manipulated into something magical by experienced hands and creative minds

By 2000tammy2015 |

I was in awe when I went to this studio and seen all the amazing creations that they make. There were so many sculptures, so many designs. I loved that we could sit and watch them make these creations. It is such an amazing talent and I could have sat there all day just watching them. I highly recommend going to watch them in action or to go see their amazing creations- maybe buy something to ;)

By Nancy S |

The distillery close by wasn't open yet, so we stopped by to peek into the showroom. We were so fascinated by the artwork and the pieces, we headed upstairs to watch the process from a balcony overlooking the glassworks. Two hours later, we had watched a glob of molten glass as big as a fist transform into a beautiful conch shell. From start to finish, we couldn't tear ourselves away. As many as four people were on the team to create that masterpiece, and one of the team explained each step to us. Love that the ovens are run on bio-diesel, to be as green as possible. No charge for looking! This place is passionate about their craft and are as good as any we've seen in Verona.

By hockeyaw19 |

We stopped in here on our last day with time to kill before heading to the airport. It was perfect for killing an hour. They have beautiful glass and other art works in their gallery and you can watch glass sculptures being made from an observation deck. Definitely swing in if in the area.

Tip: to get to the upstairs gallery use the door to the right after entering.

By John N |

Like many others I went to this place by accident. I was waiting to take my distillary tour (next door) and to pass time went in here. Many years ago I visited Waterford Glass this is much smaller and a bit different. Waterfords were pretty much all functional pieces these were art pieces. Amazing to watch 4 people working on the same piece. Everyone has a job (but they keep hanging off) and it is all done with very little giving instructions to each other. It is almost like a dance with each person knowing exactly what they are to do next.

You can look through the display of pieces and they go upstairs to see more pieces and also look down on them working in the small shop. To sit and watch was free - how can you beat that. Could have stayed for hours watching them create

By Karen W |

When we visited the glass workshop was open but there were no glassmakers working. Neat to see the facility however. The art glass in the studio was amazing, just beautiful. We were welcomed by Dan Conroy and he explained the details on how the glass is made, and the unique way that they are able to display the glass with lights. Fun experience.

By Texan_1835 |

This place is amazing and so much fun. The people are kind and when we watched the artists work, they even talked to us about what they were doing and the process in general. The art is gorgeous. We ended up buying a piece and shipping it. The shipping was quick and they were very good at communicating everything. Definitely a place to go if you love art and/or unique experiences.

By Tara W |

We stumbled upon this place when we were early for the distillery tour. The gallery is beautiful but the best part was watching the artists blow the glass.

By Dartagnan C |

The Makai Glass work is a wonderful place to visit. You are able to see how the glass is made. You are able to actually walk through the plant and see the many products in many phases of their completion. The actual pieces are amazing. Prices are reasonable considering the works of art that you are purchasing. Staff was most helpful and cordial. The artists are right there for you to see they will also sign and date the piece that you purchase for no charge.

By Restless-Lithuanian |

An easy visit for a free activity (if you don't buy anything). You can see a wonderful display of art made on site in darkened rooms and in daylight. If you call ahead you can be sure to see the kiln in action from a second floor overlook above their work area.

By HMu |

You can just stroll in anytime they're open and watch the team make beautiful glass sculptures. The team worked seamlessly together, and it was amazing to watch!

By Dianne D |

We were driving in the upcountry, spotted Makai Glass from the road and were oh so pleasantly surprised to find this gem of an art studio. Owner/artist Randy spent time telling us about the numerous techniques he uses to create some of the most beautiful blown glass artwork we've seen. He is a master!

By Katie C |

We made our first purchase from Makai Glass 7 years ago on the beach at the Westin in Maui. From the beginning, Randy and Justin, and all of their crew felt like old friends. Their creativity is amazing and each year their glass art products grow and expand in beauty and variety. Each year we can't wait to get back to see what is new. Our home is filled with and graced with many pieces of their wonderful glass, always reminding of beautiful Maui and our very special friends at Makai Glass. If you are in Maui, don't miss a visit to their studios in Makawao.

By ezzi386 |

Don't know that I would make the trip specifically for this, but if you're in the neighborhood, definitely stop by to watch the glass blowing process and/or buy one.

By Hagit G |

we were so enthralled with watching the glass blowing that we bought the vase that we saw being made! Amazing artistic work and great to watch the artists.

By Easytraveler450 |

We went to Maui twice and each time we visited the workshop. In fact, we had to make a detour to walk on the main street in Makawao and visit this store. Some creations are fabulous and we would have loved to bring them home. However, prices are high. But if you have the money and are looking for something original, the place is worth a visit.

By TCK1979 |

If you've never seen a 'glass blowing studio' in 'action', take a few minutes to step into this 'creation studio/gallery' between your pineapple tour and the distillery tour.

By ronb712 |

We stopped here on our way up to the volcano and were we impressed with their work!
There is a showroom and you can also watch these masters at work creating their gems.
We would love to have some of these pieces in our new Maui home (after we win the lotto) they are that good! Also found out that they created the trophy that was presented to the PGA winner the year before, very impressive. Loads of parking, and there was a food truck outside the day that we stopped there. Next door is a pineapple plantation distillery, would love to do the next time as well.

By Robert B |

Not knowing how these blobs of molten glass are turned into beautiful finished pieces seemed to be a constant guessing game until the final product was raised for our examination. We could have sat there all day!!

By Mollie W |

If you have an artistic side to you or appreciate art, this is a must visit. The art work and the glass art is beyond imagination. You also get to watch them blow the glass. Support these amazing local artists and take the time to go there. It is also right next to the Pineapple tasting room, the Kama Hele Cafe food cart in the parking lot has amazing burgers, and the General Store is across the street. When you need a day away from the beach, this is definitely worth the drive.

By tawnarae |

World class hot glass studio! My family and I loved this place. Fascinating to see the hot glass furnace work in action. The glass artists were kind, attentive, and above all experts at their art. The glass display room was air conditioned and their display lights really showed off the pieces. My 3 teen girls (who pretend to be bored with all things that Mom likes) enjoyed it as well and sat mesmerized watching the artists work with molten glass. Cannot wait to receive my 2 pieces which are being shipped to me (so I didn't have to worry about taking them through the airport)

By Andrea V |

This was an amazing bonus to experience! We went on the Maui Pineapple tour and this is next door. We watched from start to finish the amazing artistry transformed into a beautiful piece. These are truly talented artists!
Each piece is unique. If your looking for something beautiful to take home from Maui visit Makai Glass. Be prepared to spend a lot of money but we’ll worth it. Randy one of the owners and artists helped me pick out a gorgeous piece! Thank you!

By Moniquessimo |

Dropped in while we were waiting for another tour and so glad we did. The showroom has the most amazing art pieces and if you go upstairs you can watch the glass blowing from the loft. Don’t hesitate to make the trip to see them!

By divanoir |

As glass collectors and enthusiasts it was great to see the glass blowing process up close. They seem to have patterned a style and perfected it, which made the displays a little boring. Staff is very enthusiastic and eagerly answers questions.

By Don C |

All the artists we watched create were young and very into it. This was very nice to see. Their creations were quite nice, albeit quite expensive. This studio is located next to Haliimaile Distillers and Haliimaile General Store (a great restaurant), so you can spend a few hours here. Definitely worth a stop.

By Greg Skipton, Independent Travel Agent |

This glassblowing facility and gallery next to the Maui Gold Pineapple Facility was an unexpected surprise. The works were stunning and watching the blowers working their craft was a fun pause to the day.

By Dennis T |

You don't have to be into glass blowing to enjoy a trip to Makai Glass Maui.
The gallery of blown glass products and some paintings, is large. The work is top quality.
You can watch the pieces being created from an upstairs viewing area.
The staff is very friendly.
The prices aren't cheap but the looking is free.
Something different after you have done everything else.
Good restaurant across the street.

By Meredith M |

This was a spare of the moment stop after we visited the distillery. Two different people had mentioned stopping by so we thought we would add it to our list. It is very neat to watch the artists work and most of the crafts are unique. However, it was kind of hard to find and we felt like a slight waste of our time. While I value original artwork and the cost of one of a kind pieces as my house is filled with them, I thought that the items were overpriced. I like to purchase locally made artisan pieces every place we visit, but there was honestly nothing in the gallery (large or small) that I could imagine placing anywhere in my home other than maybe the drinking glasses which they didn't have a full set of when we visited. The gallery was full so it was slightly hard to get around and see pieces.

By Marsha E |

We stopped at this glass blowing place and watched them in action. They have lovely blown glass creations for sale. Worth a visit.

By MissTT |

Really loved this place and that you are able to watch the artists work as well as look at their beautiful art. Like the diversity of artists and styles. My only complaint is that it's over-priced.

By forefrnite |

Located right next to the pineapple tour with lots of shaded parking. This is a must see, as they are making glass wear on the floor below the balcony you stand on. This is a free self guided tour with lots of really beautiful blown glass objects for sale.

By Ana B |

We were stopped in our tracks when we walked by the Makai Glass Maui pop-up at the Hyatt and had to stop and look. They had very impressive, high quality and creative pieces, certainly some that would make an incredible home front-entry piece. We talked to Dave who was running the booth that day and he was a super down to earth cool dude. We fell in love with 2 pieces (Rainbow Eucalyptus and Metallic Pineapple) and were able to work out a deal to ship both back to our home in Milwaukee. About 4 weeks later, we received a very detailed email from their shipping department with instructions on how to unpack our glass upon delivery, along with the tracking info. The glass was shipped 2-day air, and everything arrived in pristine condition! We were very impressed by the time and detail they took to package the glass. They had foam cut perfectly to fit the base of our glass and packaged the remaining so meticulously using more foam cut outs and lots of packing peanuts! We even kept the packaging for moving purposes later. Although we never made it to the shop, we can say that their work is out of this world, and you can trust shipping to wherever!

By Lesley B |

We stumbled upon this studio after we took the pineapple tour. My teenagers enjoyed looking at artists make several beautiful pieces of blown glass. One of the was a gorgeous wave. There is a platform above the glass blowing workshop where you can look down on the artists and watch them work.

By Dianne T |

Many interesting designs. A treat to meet the artist himself. He will sign your purchase which makes it special!!

By DandSdennis |

Option 3 –
We have never seen blown glass objects like we saw at Makai Glass Creations. They are spectacular when displayed with LED lamps. You may want to avoid Makai Glass Creations if you have a large office or home. You will definitely spend money. They also have smaller works that are equally beautiful. We wouldlove to know how they can create such large works.

By Bowmanator22 |

Makai Glass has the most beautiful beach/Hawaii themed blown glass pieces I have ever seen, and probably the best I’ve seen that aren’t in a museum. We spent only fifteen minutes here, but you can watch the artists working, which was unbelievable!

By kwdreamer2017 |

Not only are there amazing pieces to look at, but the kiln area where they make the blown glass is viewable from a raised viewing area with seating. Everyone there is super-nice and informaitve. This place was a treat we werent epecting!

By Pedro B |

It was really cool to watch the glass artist at work.
Even though the glass for sale was well out of my pricerange, there was so much of it, and it was so beautiful!

By Cyndi P |

The art is stunning the gallery worth a view you can spend time watching them make magic from the viewing deck. Yes it’s hot but the breeze through the shop makes it pleasant and and the trinkets start as low as 50 for a wine stopper worth the stop to admire and get one of a kind gifts

By LGV74 |

Took kids to see and ended up buying some pieces. Really great to experience these great artist and watch them work in there comfort zone. They are really focused while they work in a humble atmosphere playing great reggae tunes.

By Debbie T |

So worth a visit after a tour of the pineapple plantation. The artists are the most skilled and talented I've ever seen.

By stpaulpaul |

This place is right across the road from the Bev Gannon's General Store so if you are going up there to get some great food make sure you cross the street to see what is happening there. We loved the red glass lights that are above the bar area at the General Store and were informed that they were made right across the street. After seeing what was being made at the facility we decided to have three lights custom made. We just got them delivered to our home on the mainland. We will have them installed in our dining room and they will totally be the focus of the room- they are so beautiful!! Interestingly, they appear more red (which is what we were looking for) when lit but are possibly even more beautiful when not lit. The artist used an amazing technique of adding golds, silvers, blacks and some irridescence to the glass to make them very different when not lit. Boy are we eager to get them up! They studio has a viewing area from which one can see the artists doing their thing with glass. We could have watched it for hours. Very nice and conscientious people working there and we will definately include this place in our visits in the future to Maui.

By Lee P |

It was interesting to watch the glass blowers at work creating beautiful glass objects. Had to buy a glass pineapple! Recommend stopping by,

By Lbewley |

We met these folks from the weekly Friday craft fair at the Westin Ka’anapali Villas Resort years ago. Their studio is in Makawao. On Tuesday and Wednesday’s their normally blowing glass artwork. They have the studio set up so you can watch them work from above. Beautiful pieces - small and large.

By Annalisa H |

Absolutely beautiful. Reasonably priced options. Great variety. Good people willing to talk and explain.

By JacqueandClyde |

Right next to the distillery so we popped over. Got to see the massive furnaces, but they were on lunch break so did not get to see artists in action. Got a personal tour of the gallery, and was quite impressed with the work, and use of color and the complexity of the design. Very interesting

By KCHREG |

We stopped here after the distillery tour which is right next door...literally. go on the distillery tour well worth it too.

We were able to walk through their show room. The art work is very well done. They had several pieces lite up which made them much more majestic. The had a viewing gallery but we're not working at the time. It would be worth calling to see when they are creating the glass sculptures so you can see them in action.

By Lynda W |

Wonderful show, almost like a dance wity four people creating one beautiful vase. It is worth the trip just to watch them, however the store is filled with stunning glass creations.

By Leora R |

We always love a visit or two to this great glass blowing place. We always see so many interesting things made and get to talk to the artisans themselves. One day I hope to purchase something from there but I would still just go to enjoy the experience p

By Ron R |

They do beautiful work here. You can pick up a gorgeous piece of art for half or less than the galleries around the island. It is also a fun place to watch them work and kill the wait at HGS across the road.

By Ed D |

Randy and Justin are something to watch. There staff / team do such awesome work. To sit in the visitors area upstairs and watch them work on their are was a treat. On the first visit Justin was finishing up one of his new creations which was a turtle. We watch his put the finishing touches on the piece and we were amazed at the beauty and style of hiswork! We talked with Randy about the art they do and he is a great guy. Talked to Kate who has been there for 1 year and she was great to talk to also. Their showroom is full of awesome glass creations. Stop by and watch some great people working as a finely directed symphony to create one of a kind masterpieces.

By Rex C |

While waiting for the General Store Restaurant to open up for dinner, we discovered this place across the street. The variety and quality of the glass work was really something. The degree of detail in the work really shows.

By ronalddd2016 |

Watched a team of 5 skilled, artisans turn a 3300 degree blob of Spectrum 98 glass into a 1900 (or so) degree piece of glass that was worked into a 24" humpback whale. Their facility accommodates a viewing area from a balcony above the work floor. Staff was on hand to answer questions. It's not glass blowing (but they do that too) it's mostly sculpture. A great way to spend a few hours in Maui. Upcountry.

By Lbewley |

The staff of this place go all out to show their work and explain each detail. Obviously take pride in their work. As they should. We watched as they blew an entire storm sculpture which was completely amazing to watch each of them assist in creating this beautiful piece. The studio has beautiful pieces displayed. This is a must see.

By TravelinGal2010 |

We discovered this gallery when we booked a Maui Gold Pineapple tour, which is located next door. The glass blowers were not working when we visited. The gallery is amazing with many blown glass items on display and for sale, as well as many paintings. We highly recommend a visit.

By Debra S |

The glass blowing work done here is absolutely beautiful. Artist Randy Schaffer does outstanding work. We purchased a wave piece. The colors are rich and brilliant. Looking at it really gives you a calming feeling. The colors flowing will have you moving with the wave and feeling it's ocean flow. All waves are individually hand sculpted, signed and dated by the artist. A great place to visit and watch glass blowing in action.

By Boomer |

Very informative glass blowing demonstration and an excellent assortment of pieces for purchase. A unique piece of Maui.

By jplin47 |

We went to visit Makai Glass after seeing some of their creations at an art gallery in Lahaina. As others have pointed out, their pieces do cost a few pennies (you can see prices on their website), but they are really beautiful too. If you love their art, you will save some money by buying directly from their own shop, rather than buying through an art gallery.

By poppazo |

Me and my wife went on the distillery tour, after we finished we went to the art museum and watch the glass blowers make a piece. They stopped during the process to explain it to us, it was truly an amazing experience watching them work.

By HoustonTravlinDave |

If you are a fan of glass work, it doesn't get better that this. Watching these artists work their magic with glass is impressive.
We left with a unique piece that we will cherish for ever.
Signed by Randy, the owner/artist

By Bonnie E |

A trip to Makai Glass Creations is an ABSOLUTE MUST If on Maui. Even if you are not, we have found we can watch Randy Shaffer and the artisans at Makai on live Facebook sessions. Check it out. Yes it is hot upstairs in the viewing area so it would be tough to watch a complete creation. We watched for 3 hours on a Facebook live session while they created an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS whale breach for us.
Randy and the gang are so fun to work with, wether at the Craft Faire’s at the Westin or at the Gallery in Haliimaile across from the Haliimaile General Store restaurant.
During the Covid shut down, they have expanded their gallery so definitely take a look at them on line at Makaiglass.com because you will not believe their creativity and expertise. Looking forward to our next visit in March. 🤙

The artists here are very wiling to explain & show you how glass is made. You can watch glass being blown. The pieces they have here are quite beautiful and reasonably priced for the workmanship & artistry. A great place to stop in for some education & maybe pick up a beautiful piece of art.

we have had the pleasure to meet both randy and justin. They are great guys who are true artists. We own three pieces of their work.

My wife and I and some friends got to Maui last year. We got to do all the usual sights and activities. We had ventured up in the beautiful hills and mountains in search of some activities we had heard about. Along with those sights we stumbled upon Makai Glass Maui what an interesting place. Actual glass blowing workshop with some observation chairs to watch them in action. We got to walk through the workshop when they were not working and tour the rooms of inventory on display. They were for sale and just displays. Both types were beautifully blown glass with light projected through or beautifully infused in the glass. It made a beautiful sight with a "Surprising Light".

We are glass aficionados and appreciate fine work. This studio is set up with a viewing gallery above the kilns and the annealing kilns. We watched a team of five artists complete a large piece that would likely retail for $7,500 (based on other pieces on display at the time). They worked together in a finely choreographed ballet to finish the piece at get it from the hot, working kiln to the annealing kiln. The piece was beautiful and the teamwork was inspiring to watch.

We visited the Halimaile location to see the actual creation of these wonderful pieces of art. These folks amaze and continually create wonderful works of art. They do as the other reviews say " blow your mind "

Wow, this place keeps coming up with some amazing glass sculptures. Ocean creatures and fanciful things will knock your socks off. Watch the glass creation in progress from the gallery above the production floor. Wowee Maui!

Always a wonderful gallery to visit. Local creative talent in abundance. My friend purchased an incredible wave sculpture on aluminum that looks real. The friendly staff was a pleasure to work with. They packed and delayed shipping for her so it will be arriving after she gets home. Looking for the unique and one of a kind this is the place.

I wanted to buy everything in this place. The artistry is out of this world mind blowing. They have a gallery as well as a spot you can sit in and watch the glass blowing in action.

After having lunch we decided to walk across the street to the art gallery. To our delight it was a glass sculpture work shop with pieces inspired from different aspects of the Hawaiian Islands. You initially walk into the gallery and some air conditioning. We made our way up the stairs and into an even larger gallery. At the far end of the balcony is a seating area overlooking the glass blowing workshop. To our delight the artists were returning from lunch and began a new sculpture. Dare I say we were captivated. We observed the sculpture's entire creation from beginning to its fully realized completion. We were so enthralled that we bought a piece.

Great visit all around. Our teen age daughters enjoyed the display as well.

This is a fun shop to look around while you are at Maui Pineapple. They weren't blowing glass while we were there, but it would be fun to stop in when they are, as they have a second floor balcony for viewing.

What a great place we stayed over an hour and watched a large piece being created. The cool part is they explain what is going on so that everyone can see and capture the beauty of the pieces being created.

Beautiful glasswork created with astounding artistry. Watching the glass blowers at work was fascinating. Seeing the work and skill in the simpler pieces showed the difficulty of the larger pieces.

We visited literally adjacent building for the Maui Pineapple Tour & Distillery Tour - so you don't even repark your car... you can just walk here straight from there.

I knew in advance that most likely the prices would be out of my range but decided to visit still just to admire some nice art.. but what I didn't know is that there is a setup on the 2nd floor where you can sit down and observe artist in their natural environment :) heart, fire, glass = sooooooooooooooooo cooooooooool!!!!!!!

One of the ladies even spoke to us seeing that we were interested and enjoyed the craft - great very personal experience, I did not see it coming and warmed up my heart even further!

TIP: there is even a tipping box there, sadly we had only plastic on us as used up the cash at the other place but if you read this in advance keep that in mind

A friend suggested stopping here to watch the glass blowers, so we did and we weren't disappointed! I could have watched them all day! They have a viewing balcony so you can watch them work, and we were fascinated. Beautiful work and a nice gallery. We bought some glass Christmas ornaments and they wrapped them up for us so we could ship them home. It was just a cool place to stop while driving up country.

Stopped at the gallery for a look and was able to watch them in action, making great glass pieces. There is a viewing area upstairs with chairs and a great gallery for purchases. Super friendly and informative. Great to do this stop, the distillery next door and lunch at the General store.

The glass workshop and store is within walking distance to the Haliimaile Distilling Company so you should try and see both at the same time.

There were many pieces of glass for sale and on display as well as unique Nihihau shells which are only from that Hawaiian island. We picked up a bracelet for my Mom who had always wanted one and this made her day!

We also spent time watching the glass blowing. Coming from Tacoma, where we have our own glass blowing workshop, i really appreciated seeing the artists work their magic on Maui.

Went in after the pineapple tour. If you like the ocean or beach they have some really great pieces of work. They also do custom work & are willing to go out of their way to make what you would want. We bought a couple Christmas presents for the 'sea' lovers in our family. Glad we stopped in.
