March air museum isn't the biggest flight museum but it packs a really great experience for kids and adults. Inside the large main building are planes, interactive displays for kids, theaters and a gift shop. My grandsons (ages 2 & 4) had a great time sitting in the flight simulators and actually touching the controls of real jets. The outside aircraft are in pretty good shape and give you a great overview of our military aviation history from WW II to the present. Highlights are the SR-71, B-29 and Vietnam Helicopter display.
Docents are ex military guys, very helpful and full of interesting stories. Worth the time and donation!

I haven't been here in awhile but it gets nicer and nicer as years go by.My Grandsons love it.We are a Military Family so what's not to like.

What an incredibly range of military (air) craft. So much to see and read. Very informative guides, who are more than happy to answer questions. I’m not a plane spotter, but happily spent more than two hours here.

We visited March Field Air Museum with our 10 year old granddaughter in June 2018, and spent three hours going through it, as well as a guided tram tour around the airplanes outside. Our granddaughter enjoyed climbing the stairs to look into the cockpits of airplanes, and reading the history behind them. The displays were excellent, and there were several volunteers ready to explain the history of what we were looking at. Could have spent much more time there, and would like to go back. Enjoyed watching a Raptor take off from a runway at the nearby air base.

Everyday thousands of vehicles whip up and down Interstate 215 between Moreno Valley and Murrieta, California. Some drivers may and others may not note the assortment of military aircraft sitting along the fence line as the pass March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley. I too am guilty of observing the planes but never bother to check them out. Recently I received a notice of a free admission to the March Field Air Museum for Veterans on Saturday and Sunday, 14 & 15 November 2020. I went, I observed, and had a fantastic time wandering around this Military aviation museum. Be aware that due to construction on the freeway ramps access to the Museum can get a bit difficult if you are not paying attention to the signs. The March Field Air Museum is an aviation museum based at March ARB, California that was founded in 1980. It covers 32 acres and has 80+ vintage aircraft on display. Due to Corona Virus protocol, the Indoor Exhibit Area is currently closed to the public. Mask and social distancing are mandatory. This is an awesome museum to visit. Be prepared to spend several hours wandering around the static aircraft displays. Even then you will not see all the planes. As one enters the museum you will be faced with the SR71 Blackbird. Wow. It unbelievable that this aircraft could even get off the ground. Exiting the building will take you to the “aircraft parking lot”. A plethora of aircraft await your inspection. Attack, bombers, cargo / transport, fighters and other types of aircraft are on display. A collection of Soviet MiG fighters is also included. As a GI brat and Veteran of the Air Force, observing the C-119, C-123, C-141. C-54, CT-39, KC-135 and VC-47 brought back memories of flying in these aircraft as a kid and as a GI serving in numerous overseas duty stations. The Fire Base Romeo Charlie with it display of helicopters was difficult to observe, as it brought back bad memories of being shot down in a “Huey” helicopter at LZ Green in Viet Nam. It truly a remarkable version of the real outpost of Viet Nam, with its gun towers, revetments, barbed wire, etc. Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed to climb on or touch the aircraft due to safety reasons. Would have like to view the interior of several of the aircraft. Be prepared to do a lot of walking, bring a hat, and lots of water. You will be glad that you did. A Gift Shop is also located on site. As one leaves the museum, there are three spectacular memorials located in the courtyard that are well worth seeing. The War Dog Memorial, Air Medal Memorial and P-38 Memorial honors those who were aviator, and those who protected the American freedom. Museum staff is outstanding and will spent time talking to you about various aircraft, etc. An utterly amazing museum. Recommend everyone should take the time to visit and observe the flying machine of yesterday.

The unassuming building offers little hint of the magnificent treasures and artifacts inside. But once the doors open, the awe-inspiring details are revealed. Massive fighter jets, military weapons dating as far back as WWI, and even dedicated stories of passenger air travel greet you.

But what truly makes this museum so wonderful is the volunteers who are eager to share their harrowing stories––such as the 90-year-old gentleman who showed us the photo of himself when he was 18 and the uniform he wore behind the glass case.

For museums, this is one remarkable gem of living history you can't miss.

If you want to see aircraft, then stop in and check out this museum.

They have a large selection of aircraft, mostly jets, but not just US. They have a nice variety of Migs.

A nice feature is that you can walk right up to the jets and check them out.

It's probably smarter to go on a nice fall or spring day. I was there in December and it was perfect. Most of the planes are outside, and midday could be unbearable in the summer.

There's a lot here. It's self-guided with plaques to guide you -- no audio tour. Like many museums on a shoe-string budget, this is not a heavily polished Smithsonian-like museum. But if you connect to some of the work the volunteers are doing, you'll leave with a great appreciation for the place.

Great air museum. Open to the public on part of the Air Force Base. Indoor portion is currently closed but your able to walk through to the outdoor section. Great historical aircraft to see and lots of great plaques to read.

Very interesting collection of airplanes spanning many years
at March Field. Great display and dedicated volunteers to
help with visitors.

The museum is a few hundred yards off the highway and there is a large free parking area. At $10 admission is great value. There are a number of exhibits and a shop indoors but for me the great thing about the museum is the huge collection of planes outside where you can walk round them and take photographs. Most planes have an information board telling you about the history. If I have one criticism it's that you couldn't get in the vast majority of the planes or look into the cop pits.
There is also a great helicopter display in its own dedicated area.
I particularly liked the world war 2!aircraft which included a Mitchell, Fly and Super Fortress. All in all a fantastic collection of planes and great value for money

By TheGatesClan |

The outdoor collection is impressive. The number of trainers from WWII to present is impressive accompanied by legends like the F111 and F4. Even a Canberra bomber which I have not seen anywhere in the US before being a British design. And a Space Shuttle booster tucked in the far corner. Each Air Museum has it unique surprises and this one has its share with a Russian collection including an Antonov 2. Definitely worth a few hours of enjoyment wandering this collection. If you are lucky you will also see active Air Force tankers and drones flying from the neighboring base.

we took our bots, n they enjoyed every minute of it, so I will say is an Awesome place for 6-11 yrs old Kids.

By Sharon L |

Focus of the museum: the air craft, of course. BUT, there are stories of individual soldiers that are touching....especially, Vince Rogers, Jr. There is more on the histories of WWI, WWII , than on Vietnam and the Gulf War...more on male soldiers than women. But the museum is well put together......including a respect given to all soldiers, no matter on which side they fought. or represented. That's pretty cool.

By Melodycthomas |

The folks at March Field Air Museum have done a superb job of preserving and telling the story of aviation in the United States. Static displays inside share the stories of people who flew various missions in wartime. There are about 65 aircraft on display outside. Volunteers stand by to answer any questions you might have. There is also a room dedicated to space flight and a show in an inflatable planetarium about the space station and the early efforts to conquer space. This is an exceptional teaching opportunity for today's youth. Easily accessible to mobility impaired individuals.

By Barry R |

A terrific place to take children of seven and older. The Dads will enjoy it even more as there is a top secret (was at the time) spy plane in the center of the museum that you can actually see right inside the cockpit. What a treat!

By Arlene B |

A fun organized event. Interesting to see the history of some of our fighter / military planes. It’s a great display without having to walk for miles.

Jusf off the 215 frwy South in Riverside, Ca., is March Air Museum. They house and maintain many history making aircraft. Being a former aircraft mechanic, I enjoy seeing these beautiful old birds that have logged many hours defending, transporting and supplying our troops. There are several types of aircraft, from fighter jets, B52 bombers, C-5 transport, SR-71, rescue aircraft and on and on. If you're interested in aircraft, you'll enjoy the Military collection at March Air Museum.

By Lindsay R |

I went here with my husband after getting a Groupon. They have some really cool-looking old planes and the tram tour is pretty cool. But, if you don't know much about planes, there's not much appeal. The interior museum is a bit dingy and outdated feeling. I don't think this is a place that I would choose to bring out-of-town friends though.

By LM R |

Please provide traffic control when hosting event such as the Halloween special on 10/19/24. Traffic on Van Buren from both the 215 north and south exits was ridiculous. Visitors were ignoring the traffic lights and blocking the freeway exit from the northbound 215

By Bob-a-Link |

Very easy access from the highway and good parking to reach the March Field Air Museum. Most of the collection is located out of doors with lots of concrete reflecting the sun. So come prepared with water, hats and even umbrellas. The umbrella made our visit very enjoyable. The planes are well spaced apart so fairly good photographs are possible. Especially loved the D model of the B-52 on display. The staff and volunteers work very hard to restore and maintain the aircraft in their care. That care shows. The signage in front of most of the aircraft really helped with identifying what was significant about that particular aircraft. Would visit the Museum again if in the area.

By April P |

With the top attraction being the SR-71 Blackbird, the entire museum was awesome. It is one of three Blackbird planes in the country that you can actually look inside the cockpit. My husband and I spent around 3 hours touring the entire museum. The outside was perfect for strolling around and looking at planes and helicopters from the Cold War Era. They have a B-17 (the flying fortress) which is in amazing shape, along with a collection of MIGS, Tom Cats, and a Boeing B-29 from those years. The volunteers are very informative and knowledgeable. Excellent time for those fascinated by American History.

Visited this spot on Veterans Day and I was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely a must visit if you have little ones, plenty of things to keep them busy (at least for a couple of hours).

Pros: Inexpensive, clean restrooms, lots of hands on exhibits inside, small video screen that showed space film, boxes of military clothing for kids to play dress up (awesome), cool gift shop, outside is great for kids who like to get outdoors and have a love for airplanes, there's a lot of planes & helicopters to see, easy to find, right off 215 freeway, about 15 min drive from downtown Riverside.

Cons: if you come during the summer or early fall, come prepared for the heat. It gets very warm out there. (Inside is air conditioned!) Check the weather prior to visiting, traffic on the 215 can get really bad, not really a con but some mothers might not like the dirt paths outside, not much shade outside either.

Overall, I will visit them again!

The best surprise though is this museum sits directly next to an airstrip! We happened to be there for the air force to be flying F-35 fighter jets!! Clear skies and views to watch the modern in action as you toured the historic older airplanes. What a serendipitous moment!

We were looking for a quick activity before dinner and dropped into this museum right at 4:00 (they close at 5). The 2 older gentleman were friendly and sweet, offered us a discount for coming so close to closing but clearly set the expectation for closing time. Over age 11 is considered adult so my teenager and I were 2 adults; my teenager is an avid aviation fan so loved this quick visit. Could see this being an easy, short activity for a family with a younger child who loves planes for sure! Later, another older gentleman comes around at 4:45 outside to remind folks, but he's funny conversational style comes across well.

The museum itself is smaller, but robust with information and things to look at. Each plane outside has a plague explaining it's brief use/history. The exhibits inside are spaced nicely and cover several different elements of aviation. We easily saw everything in the hour but we were moving fast & not too worried about reading every plague/sign. If you are going to do that & chit chat with someone else as you go I would allow for 2 hours.

I have visited a few times bringing family (grandkids) and friends on Memorial day Weekend after the service. I recommend it. I was stationed at March AFB in the seventies

By Dave R |

Absolutely worth the time to see. The showcase aircraft is the SR-71 and is displayed in all her glory. Agree the tram tour is well worth it. Plan on a couple of hours.

By Teresita O |

We took our summer school class there for a guided field trip and it was AMAZING! Very knowledgeable guide and SUPER INTERESTING! Highly recommend!!

By ssformation |

This is the place for a relaxing, self-guided tour of those planes your dad flew in the war or that you saw in a movie or documentary. The best part is if you get to talk to some of the vets, mechanics, and pilots who volunteer to restore the old planes and helicopters. They are wonderfully accomodating and have so many personal stories worth hearing. Hats off to them all.

By Tina10Travels |

It seem like March AFB has been there forever, nearby, but I only visited twice. It's pretty cool. Lots of good history to learn. Very cool planes

By Otto K |

The multitude of different aircraft on display was mind boggling! The Vietnam era fire base recreation merits a multi hour visit on its own. I highly recommend a guided, narrated tour with open air electric cart transport. This place is far too large to walk, and even with this docent led tour, there's a lot to absorb in a few hours.

Check on line to see if discount Groupons are available.

By Eric Y |

I've been here a few times and always love the history of the military. Great for the family or go solo. You can spend an hour there or a few hours. Well maintained and great history.

By John D |

Probably only 2nd to Wright-Patterson or Smithsonian Institute. They so many aircraft ready for inspection it fills 4 football fields.
Easy on/off parking from I-215 just south of HWY 60 in Riverside County.
Quality hotels nearby and views of March AFB and thier tankers and C-17's ready to go.

By 504garyp |

This quaint museum was minimalist on flash but full of substance. Great history and layout, but the stars are the planes. There are two inside hangars with planes and historical displays, and then there are maybe 50 more planes out back (with restorations still taking place). You do not have to be an aviation expert to enjoy this. Interactive displays make it fun for kids, too.

By Raymond L |

Great day out for a local trip, right on the 215 fwy easy to locate, or plenty of parking for your convenience, affordable admission and a great day out for airplane buffs, and a affordable gift shop to pickup momentos, my grandsons love to walk the area and check out the fighters from yesteryear and they do love a trip thru the gift shop looking for helicopter toys

By dj0hansen |

I grew up near the museum and have taken my own kids there several times when they were growing up. It's fun for the kids to check out the planes and they always have new stuff.

By Mary L |

We had a wonderful visit. Nicely put together displays, amazing aircraft to walk around, and interactive technology made this museum an instant favorite for my family of six. My son is now planning on volunteering here for his high school internship requirement.

By mnmfum |

This was a great place to see and learn about military history. The kids loved the hands on airplane models, and the interactive stuff indoor and out. I don't recommend going on a very hot day because most stuff is outdoors. There is a lot of walking outside to see all the awesome planes. You can purchase snacks there and the gift shop is really great! People are very friendly also!

By Richard M |

Very nice .
All aircraft are cordoned off at 15-20 ft. No longer allowing visitors to look inside the aircraft.

By enghelicious M |

This museum has a lot of real planes for exhibition, the tour is very detail with explanations about every single plain and also more interesting information about the planes. This place exist only for the entrance of the visitors. Total worth it

By Bluesails530 |

You'll find one of seven SR71s at this, one of the finest air museums in So Cal, if not the South West. Great family outing. Scheduled tours can be made by calling ahead.

By Sharon S |

Very interesting. We spent about three hours there and could have spent more, but it closes at 4:00. There are a lot of exhibits -- some more interesting than others. The best part is that you can spend time at the ones you find interesting and just glimpse the ones you don't care to see -- there are no guides or tours that force you to keep pace. It is a solo tour but not overly crowded so you can look at your leisure. Outside there are all ,I dis of planes that we didn't have time to e a I e fully. If you love planes, this p,ace is a must see.

By RField |

Fantastic experience—the collections and displays are top notch, and the staff an docents have a great deal of knowledge to share... and they are extremely friendly and helpful to boot. There’s something for everyone at the March Field Air Museum. Bring the kids—I did, and had a hard time getting them to leave! Fortunately the gift shop was a great draw, and it’s on the way out.

By Dollo W |

Great planes and you can get in most of them if you go at the right time. The stealth was a treat as were the rest of the planes. Just a lot of fun to take the kids to.

By Supertrooper |

My husband loves planes, of all sorts. He loved this spot and they have a lot of great planes from different eras. Reasonably priced and very clean. No time limit on seeing everything. They have displays inside and a ton of planes outside.

By Don T |

Incredible air museum with incredible stuff. The staff is wonderful
You have to see it to believe it.

By Lawrence S |

The fastest plane in existence and now a replica of the Wright Bros first plane is all in the museum with all in between - such an exciting place to visit..At such an affordable entry fee should make everyone come.

By Steve H |

That is one great place to visit. I was in the Navy and have seen alot of aircraft from the past. I really like taken my time looking at all the old aircraft. Also the tour on the tram is also great with the driver being pilots of some of the aircraft at March, and some pilots were stationed at March in the past.
A great place to watch the air shows when the have them.

By Richard L |

If you like planes this is a great display. Be prepared to walk a lot and there is a tram but is not always available. I would suggest you check in advance that a docent guide will be available when you are there. The SR-71 is fantastic. Much of this is outdoors so a summer afternoon visit should be carefully planned. I took a grandchild to this and they became hopelessly bored so this may be more an adult exhibit. There are some exhibits inside where kids can sit in planes. If you are a dog lover buy the War Dogs video they sell there.

By Bryble |

Always eager to view aircraft museums and a visit to March Field is a must. 3 or 4 large exhibition halls greet you for your $10 entrance fee showing aircraft and stories from the last 2 wars. The SR71, the fastest aircraft ever build and flown is on display in the main hall.

Outside there are currently 76 old aircraft and some helicopters which you can get up close and personal walking right up to each display.

Staff are all volunteers and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

By b c |

This place is the best. We rented it for a private party and it was phenomenal. The staff goes way beyond the call of duty. They made us feel like family. There was not one request they could not fulfill for us. If you are thinking of having a private party here, don't hesitate. It is an absolutely exceptional venue with the most amazing staff you can imagine.

By CaFrancophile |

The number of planes at The March Field Air Museum is amazing. Aircraft and other military items from the last 100+ years. The main hanger has some very well presented displays and mockups of plane interiors and when you walk out to the outside displays, the diversity of planes is almost overwhelming. It is worth multiple visits if you can because it's hard to take them all in at one time. The P-38 National Association is also on the grounds of the museum, but only open on the weekends, so try for Saturday or Sunday if you can. Good for kids.

By Sparky T |

I stopped at the March Field Air Museum on Veteran's Day to pay my respects to the veterans (myself included) who served this great country. It was well worth the visit (free on Veteran's Day for vets and only $10 for adults) to see the SR-71 and a nice mix of aircraft from WWII forward.

The outdoor static displays are impressive with a nice helicopter section along with fighters, tankers, bombers and transports from about 1940 to present day. The museum is interesting for all ages and the docents are more than happy to answer questions and tell stories of how it used to be.

Take exit 25 off of the I-215 and you are there!

By Xander C |

This is the best air museum I’ve ever been to I recommend to anyone who loves aviation and anyone who doesn’t it tells all of the stories def visit

By eandjv |

My husband, our 4 year old grandchild and I visited for a short visit. The 4 year old loves that touching was allowed and often encouraged! I loved that the answers to his questions were posted somewhere that made me look knowledgeable! We also got a bonus treat by being allowed to get in a plane on the field for pictures. Great day, great price and the greatest staff and volunteers!

By awacsacft |

If you need to know anything about history of March Air Force Base and the Strategic Air Command, this museum is well worth the visit and most important don't forget the camera!

By Jack W |

This is a comprehensive military air museum. The displays cover all periods of military air history with interesting displays, materials, and video. The main attraction is the aircraft-over 60 aircraft from bi-planes to drones, including impressive birds like the sr-71, the b-29, the b-52, and many other big bombers, fighters, cargo craft, surveillance planes, helicopters...an airplane enthusiast or just someone who wants to see some history up close and learn a lot will do well to visit.

By PSP-Adel |

Attended with my son and 2 children and a friend and we all thought the display was Fantastic. So many exhibits that we had to keep focussed other wise we would miss some of the items on show. The highlights were many including one of the bombers we could climb aboard and speak with a former pilot. Also a surprise was the radio shack where one of the volunteers showed us some of the more interesting items.

Despite travelling from LA on a very hot day we had a great time particularly my grandson who knew each of the bombers on display.

By Sandra M |

This is a great trip for the family. We took our two grandsons and grandaughter all under the age of 12. They had a great time walking around to view the many aircraft on display. They were even more interested in the indoor museum which had many hand's on experiences and historical displays. I would reccommend this as a great 1 day family outing. Veterans especially will enjoy this and anyone interested in history. My husband especially liked the Army camp display they had set up.

By Natalie K |

Lots of planes to see and look at. You may even be able to see C 17 do touch and goes and a few others. SR-71 black bird inside the building.

By Virgil C |

Museum mostly has Air Craft and Air artifacts. Very interesting and informative collection. Well worth visiting a couple times each year. New pieces / articles added all the time. Stop in and be pleasantly surprised!

By BarBeeLicious |

This museum is amazing. It has so many air craft along with amazing retired airmen. It is a fun experience to go with your family, group, or just by yourself. It is located by March Air base and where most every day you can see the C17 flying. Whether you are from out of town, or live local, this is a "must go" place!

By Boots K |

March field was one the air field General Robin Old (WW2 Ace and Viet Nam Ace) flew out of in the 1950's after WW2, and married Ella Raines, the movie star. They have a wonderful SR-71 Blackbird to design of the great Kelly Johnson. A great collection of WW2 flight jackets. Also a lot of exhibits you can interact with. The flight line has a Beautiful B 17 G; B 52 bomber and the DC-3 . There are also a collection of jets from the Korea conflict time frame . And also several helicopters.

A really interesting local museum. You can walk around and see all the vintage aircraft on the field.

By Thomas B |

A person might figure that since this museum is adjacent to a military facility that it is limited to military matters only. Not true! This is truly a aviation museum, with an extensive collection of items relate to the space program (including the Soviet Union's!) as well as a growing area devoted to commercial aviation. But of course there is a vast collection of military planes and exhibits, including one of the few SR-71s on display. Oh and by the way, check out the monthly "paranormal event", in which a person actually assists legitimate investigators in their activities. It is late at night though, but a unique experience anyway.

By wiiliamh2017 |

4 generations of our family visited here & throughly enjoyed it! So much in fact that we are going with more family this winter!
The docents are so informative & kind. There are many hands-on exhibits for kids that are interesting to adults as well.
It is even more interesting with its proximity to March Air Force Base. I could see across the runway where my husband worked in the Transportation Squadron when he was stationed there.

By Brian K151 |

Going here is a great way to see some interesting and awe inspiring aircraft. You can get up close to the SR-71, the B-52 and numerous others in a way that brings life to them. There is so much to take in, to learn and appreciate here, that it will take many hours to see everything. Personally my favorite was walking around outside, to see the planes being no more than a foot or so away, to appreciate their size, their design and capabilities. Truth be told, even though you’re really not supposed to, I touched a couple planes, bring so much with it, like meeting your hero. It is certainly a place to see if you enjoy military history and especially planes.

By 36barryl |

This is a great place to take the kids, lots of cool airplanes, definitely a lot to see. Not the easiest place to get to but well worth the visit.

By Lance2002 |

As air museums go this one is ordinary and kind of sparse. Nothing there is extaodinary. They did have a small exhibit of Tuskegee airmen memorabilia. The Vietnam era spy plane exhibit is also interesting. If you live close, it might be worth a visit with the kids, but if you live outside the area, find one closer to you. It is not worth any type of long drive. But if you are a military person, in particular an airman of the WW2, Korea and Vietnam War eras the interest would be higher than for a non-military person and it would be worth a visit.

By G E |

March Field Air Museum gives you and up close look at our nations Air Force as far back as WWll, and some aircraft in current service. There are numerous aircraft, equipment, active restorations, and displays to keep you interested. There is a guided tram tour that lasts about 45 minutes, but everything else requires walking. Especially going back for a closer look at the planes you saw on the tour. Unless the kids are into Air Force history, leave them at home. If they get bored your going to miss out on a great museum. The docents are knowledgeable, friendly, and outgoing. All you have to do is say hi, and start asking questions. Most of these guys have flown more than one of the aircraft you will see. They also have a gift shop if you are looking for that special gift for an old Air Force, or even an old Army Air Force vet. Wear a hat, comfortable walking shoes, bring water (it can get warm) and spend 2 or 3 hours visiting the past.

By tjnelson7 |

This was a fun local trip - Good amount of history and interesting things to see. Loved the planes! Not a bad entrance price - staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

By Larry W |

Most of the planes are outside and there is a concrete walkway that allows wheelchair access to view most of the aircraft up close. Jet engine row is great, with a cut-away view of one engine. All planes have an information plaque in front of them. Inside the main hanger there's a lot of different exhibits, Military uniforms from different countries, and a small mock up of Mission Control with Space information. There is a mock up of the cockpit and nose of a B-47. You can see the limited space they had. In a dirt area outside they have several helicopters to look at in a mock helo base. It's very interesting for anyone that likes or appreciates aircraft and flying. Allow 2-3 hours to walk around, they have a tram ride and the operator tells you about the aircraft, it is well worth the small fee. As always they have a small gift shop, most prices are reasonable and there is a wide variety of items. Some items are offered that covers all branches of Military Service.

By aucasquito |

this is that best plase to visit with you familly and friends and close to many fw for sure is good experience

By MushnKit |

70 miles east of LA with a good range of indoor and outdoor aircraft and artefact displays, the museum backs on to an active air base. This caused some issues as we (my wife and I) travel with small backpacks with the essentials always with us and they initially did not let us enter with them; however the sizes of handbags being let through were greater than our backpacks! A bit of negotiation and examination cleared it up however it did not make for a good introduction. Be aware as it does back on to the air base security here is tighter than other places. Worth the visit for the aircraft, entry was USD 10 each, look out for the YA-9A and YF-14A in the air park, took us around 2 to 3 hours going slow. Poke your nose into the relic area too, the derelict & to be restored airframes are great.

By Trsimmons1 |

Great airplane museum. One of the best. Especially for the large airplanes.Great displays . Very interesting would highly recommend for family or a couple just hanging out.The staff is very friendly. They have a nice gift shop. Swing by check it out . You would be glad you did.

If you're a aeronautics enthusiast, you need to go here! History abounds! You will not be disappointed.

The museum has a really extensive collection of military aircraft and for a real treat visit on a day when they are allowing people to actually climb aboard some of the planes. There are always several veterans present to help you learn about the planes and about their military history.

By Daniel A |

I brought my wife here, having been once before, because I knew it was truly remarkable. You can’t miss it off the freeway as you see many antique aircraft from the freeway. I’ve been to museums in China and Vietnam and it brings up such anger and resentment because it is filled with such propaganda. Here at March, there is no propaganda and just facts in beautiful displays. Unfortunately for us it was about 95 degrees when we went so it was a bit hot and many of the displays are outside. It doesn’t matter though if you want to learn cool facts and history. We were both pleased and the fee is very modest. I advise you to check it out for yourself as you won’t be unpleased.

By Megan G |

There is so much here to see and learn about! My kids really enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the mission control room. The gentleman who showed us around was so kind and friendly. This place is a gem!

By Eric T |

I finally got the chance to go to this museum while in town on business. It's a nice museum with displays that are very well done. 95% of the aircraft are outside, but the weather was very nice so we enjoyed it. They have a good collection of aircraft and the veterans in the restoration area are fun to talk to.

By Resepappa |

The reason for visiting March Field Air Museum was of course the SR-71 on display, I was not dissapointed this is the best dispaly that I have seen the colour ooks just right and you can climb up on a stand and look inside the cockpit. Friendly staff and an excellent collection outside as well as inside including a D-21 makes it one of the best air museums I have been to.

By soso052904 |

I made a stop a the museum before flying out of ONT. It was an easy drive, and I spent an hour walking around the grounds looking at the planes. Their collection is an impressive array of planes. A few have peeling paint and decals, but most are in good shape. I would recommend this museum to anyone interested in airplanes.

By JOHN K |

This was my third vist to the museum. Some of the planes brought back vivid memories og my years of service. Staff were cordial and informative.

By PuzzleSolver855 |

Worth a little drive out to see the planes and the museum as displayed here. It is very well done and we spend half a day meandering through the exhibits and videos and walking around the planes. Way to go March!

By Bobb L |

It is not pretty but neither is war. Good to see some great planes on display. It was a long time ago I actually was on the grounds but would like to go again someday.

By Paul S |

After driving past the museum on the way from Palm Springs to San Diego several times I finally made a point of stopping at March Field. As an aviation buff, looking at those aircraft lined up just off the highway was an irresistible magnet. While pleased to have finally checked it out, I was impressed but not blown away.

Perhaps I've been spoiled by visiting some of the premier aviation museums such as the Nat'l Air and Space Museums in Washington DC, Nat'l Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton and the Imperial War Museum at Duxfsord in the UK. Unfortunately, March Field isn't in the same league as these grand, well thought out and probably better financed facilities.

I found the displays inside the museum buildings at March Field to be somewhat sparse with much unoccupied space, especially hanging. Most of the aircraft are on the out door field and being so exposed to the elements, tended to show the wear. None the less, it is an impressive collection of aircraft and one well worth seeing. There were some that I had never seen up close and personal before. And those that I have seen in other museums are still interesting to see in the flesh.

There were information panels in front of all aircraft and displays which contained more than adequate information. I was especially interested in a cut-away section of the cockpit of a B-47 showing and explaining the crew positions. The staff I spoke to were all friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about the museum and its history. One extra that I would have appreciated had it been available is an explanation of why aircraft were grouped as they were.

All in all, while March Field is not in the same league as some of the others, it houses a collection of aircraft that should not be missed. As bonus, it is a stone's throw from the active air base and there are often military aircraft taking off and landing. Very exciting.

So I was leaving Riverside and in the opposite side of the highway I saw the most fabulous array of military planes on a field. Intrigued by what it was I looked at my GPS app and it said it was some kind of museum. Immediately I spun around to check it out. It so did not disappoint. $10 to get in and we’ll worth it. I wish my family was with me on this trip but we will definitely be back. All planes are on display and other cool things to look at from the Wright Brothers flyer to modern warplanes. Really amazing.

By jdenson |

the March Air Field Museum lets you wander through the decades of air force history. With row upon row of fighter jets, helicopters, and heavy lifting planes, you get to see up close and personal aircraft from America's history. Highlights being, the SR-71.

By Bgdg1962 |

We enjoyed our visit. Very well maintained exhibits. I enjoyed the displays of all the leather jackets and personal effects. Sr 71 is awesome
Good static display outside of airplanes

By Elvira W |

A really nice museum to visit, also when with children. There is a lot of information about several wars but not just about the Americans and their victories. There is also information to be found about the germans, about WW1 and WW2 etc. Our sons spent a lot of time in a kind of simulator. Lots of airplanes and jets to be viewed. We really enjoyed it.

By RiversideTed_9 |

The museum has a very modest budget, but provides an interesting perspective and history of Air Force development in So Cal starting about 100 years ago. When you walk into the quonset hut entrance, it is analogous to going back in time to the early 1940s...... the music, the exhibits, the volunteers. Quite nice. Most of the airplanes are located in an outside area and can be seen up close. A pretty good exhibit of older planes. If you have visited other, more well funded air museums, you may be disappointed. However this is a very good place to take youngsters and let them see for themselves what life was like for the early advocates of flight,

By LeoPittella |

A superb collection of military aircraft, close by to an operational US Air Force base. It has an organized display of equipment and historical artifacts, a friendly staff and charges a fair price for what it delivers. What seemed from the outside as a simple and small facility turned out to be a great adventure for my 7-year-old son and me. And what about the beautiful SR-71 Blackbird inside the main building: amazing!

By Robert P |

Anyone who enjoys aircraft would enjoy this museum, especially if you are interested in military aircraft. There are indoor exhibits and lots of planes to look at on the outside. I took my son when he was younger and I can't wait to take my grandsons. To me this seems like an especially good place for a boys day out. It can be hot outside in summer, but cool inside. Easy access off the freeway. I will be going again.

By Dr_C_and_E |

Staff at this museum are volunteers. They are exceptionally nice people who are passionate about the collection of airplanes and this history behind them. Everyone in our party enjoyed our morning at the museum and learned a lot from our volunteer tour guide.

By Rina24_11 |

If you have passion about mechanical engineering, this is a place that you cannot missed because it offers you a lot of information about US Air Forces that were used during WWI & WWII. In my personal experience, it wasn't my case, but I still enjoy it.

By Carl T |

worth the time to make a visit and take the kids around showing them pieces of history of our Air Force and other military aircraft used in our wars and peacekeeping missions

By Beleche |

you can last at minimum 3 hrs watching and never leave the opportunity of learning about history from the guys that are there helping as guides. They share a lot of interesting information and anecdotes. I surely could return for another visit.

By Jeff3629 |

My expectations were high because of the other reviews here. I took my Grandson and even a 14 year old was not too excited. It is a nice museum and airfield, but just average.

By Jim K |

I took my grandkids, ages 1-4, and they all seemed to have a good time. The 4-year-old is an airplane enthusiast. It was difficult for them to resist touching everything but there are several displays that they are allowed to get in and interact with. My only complaint was the music that was constantly being played. For some reason everyone thinks everyone wants to listen to rock and roll 24 hours a day.

By Peggy u |

We had a wonderful day at The March Air Museum. We started with a tram ride @ about five dollars each from a well informed tour guide, probably one of the best tours we have ever taken. Our grandson is four years old and he loved looking at all the planes, my husband loved all the history behind the planes. We went inside after our tram and looked at all the planes and displays housed in huge buildings. Our grandson loved the planes that encouraged kids to look inside and enjoy a hands on experience. The museum is an easy day of fun with a lot of history and wonderful volunteers with much knowledge.

By RickH26757 |

If you are interested in: military history (aviation era) or military aviation this is a phenomenal place to visit. A MUST do... (even for a former submariner)! We were fortunate enough to see two F-15s take off from the adjacent March ARB as well as some C-130s. We spent over 4 hours here (but planned for only two).. Enough said.

By Louis F |

Really underrated museum with dozens of aircraft on display. They have a large outdoor display area with a ton of aircraft as well as plenty of hangar space and displays. They even have an SR-71

By LizDebernardi |

We like it very much, but if you are planning on visit this place in summer, be prepare, they don't have AC in the big saloon, just at the souvenir store, any ways don't miss this chance because it's an awesome place.

By jack a |

Visited with daughter here from Orlando . We found it very interesting. Wife variety of aircraft as well as aeronautical items. Very nostalgic. I am a retired CWO 3 USCG. It is defiantly worth a visit.

By Herb H |

Good information in the hangars and on the plaques. Well worth the visit. It gets very hot out there so bring water.

By Jayray F |

The museum has a significant number or planes, helicopters and other equipment from across our military history. There are great displays of personal artifacts and there are almost always some interesting stories told by the vets and family members who are there as docents.

By Tessx |

Good bargain compared to other air museums. My husband wished they would have had a U-2 and B-36 whatever those are. Still nice collection especially Vietnam era.

By timtutka68 |

I write this as a military history enthusiast, you never know what artifacts of historical precedence one will see when entering a museum. March Field has so much history, being established during World War I. The majority of the collection is outside which is dependent on weather conditions. The staff was very helpful and friendly (most of the staff that day looked to be veterans (Thank you for your service in the military and now to the community)). Admission wasn't bad and is worth every penny. Very nice collection of flight jackets on display. My favorite plane on display was the B-29A Superfortress. Living on the East Coast and being able to go to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum's WWII Weekend and Rhinebeck Aerodrome, it was nice to go to a new historic place and seeing a varying array of military aircraft and artifacts on display.

By Summerasalifestyle |

So much better than I anticipated.
Although not big on the military and war machines, this is an impressive display of aeronautical engineering and that’s how I chose to attend and view the museum. I’m so glad I went. This place is way cool. So worth the $10 admission. You can do a self-guided tour or wait for something organized. I wandered around remembering the names of the aircraft, imagining the women and men who flew them.

Outdoor exhibits, inside exhibits and the best is the hall. Exhibit hall has propaganda posters, letters to home, pow notes, etc
Best individual exhibit is Vince Rogers. He enlisted in 1942. Great to read his letters home thru his training and then deployment. Cried when I read the actual telegram notifying his family of his death in 1944. Let's stop wars. You could spend an entire day here—I only spent 2 hours. So worth $10.
This is way cool.

By Eljefe1970 |

What a cool place. One of the very few places in United States that has a SR 71 blackbird. This is just the beginning as you will see several displays of history on the inside of this awesome place. Then the outside has numerous aircraft that you can look at and touch. It's a big wide open place so it's great for kids. I highly recommend it.

By Snowcats95 |

Been wanting to visit this place since I heard about it and it was everything it said it was and more! The inside of the building housed very cool artifacts from every facet of flight. WW1 gear, WW2 uniforms, medals, equipment, all the way up to the recent conflicts. Outside was the best collection of military aircraft assembled. Lots of history in the machines (a F-14 prototype, YA-9 prototype, Gen. Eaker's personal B-17 just to name a few). Across the fence you can see the actual March Air Reserve base. Was very satisfied with our visit and look forward to visiting again!

By carlosvelascoteran |

I have visited several air museums, including the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. March Field is the best that I have ever seen. It has an outstanding collection of airplanes, especially covering the Cold War and Vietnam War. As a bonus, the airport serves as a base for refueling airplanes and with some luck it is possible to see them training.

By ruecatt2 |

My teenage son has always been interested in history, especially WWII, so I took him by the museum in hopes they might have something related to WWII. Which they did, so he was he happy. Its a small museum but very intereserting and showed a nice history of the airforce, WWI, WWII and aviation history. After enjoying the indoor museum we went out to view the planes parked next to the museum. We were able to walk around and right up to the planes to get a close up view of them. We also sat on a bench and watched the jets take off and land at the airforce base, as the museum sits right along side the runway of the base. The museum is definitely worth checking out.

By Doug J |

My visit to March Field Air Museum was unlike any other museum I'd ever been to. There was a vast array of airplanes to view.

By 10ringtraveler |

I haven't been here for a few years. I planned on spending about an hour going through all the displays. I think I spent 3 and a half there. I started inside and took the tour starting with the WWI displays right up to the modern day. I particularly enjoyed reading about the young man going through the schools during WWII, it included his letters home, and finally, sadly the telegram sent to his parents reporting his death. Hearing his letters home as they were read personalized that WWII vet. I watched the video on the SR 71 Blackbird and enjoyed my time there.
I walked outside and enjoyed the static displays and reading about all the aircraft! This is a outstanding museum.....it is a must see!

By Troy P |

Easy to get to off the highway and parking was plentiful. The plaques and memorial statues were very interesting and recommend you pay them a visit as you walk towards the entrance.
Once inside and purchasing your tickets, the room was filled with interesting displays and history artifacts. But it doesn't stop there, walk thru the doors next to the ticket counter to the outside exhibits. The helo base was interesting and there were some interesting facts to learn as you walk the area.
Plan on a couple to 3 hours when visiting this place, its worth it.

Great venue. Knowledgable docents more planes than at other similar museums. Bob Hope exhibits specific to this venue

By help32250 |

I had visited the March Museum years ago but I don't remember it anywhere near as good as it was this time. If you haven't been there in a few years, as me, you should go again.

The centerpiece of it is the SR71. When I saw it years ago it was outside on the tarmac and had tires that looked like you had just run them flat. This time the SR71 was indoors, clean, and with relatively nice and shiny tires. It was SO much bigger than I had remembered. And clean. And impressive. And such a tight fit for its pilot and navigator. And long and lean and it looked like it was flying at Mach3 just sitting there. Awesome.

There are a number of other "museum-like" exhibits of memorabilia, flight suits, etc. But I am all into the planes. Fyi, I am an Aerospace Engineer by formal training and have a specialty in supersonic aerodynamics. But I suspect you could guess that by how gaa gaa I was with the SR71,

Going outside on the tarmac was so incredible. All of the planes looked like they had just come back from a mission. It made my heart swell with such a feeling of patriotism and pride in "the boys" that flew and maintained them You'll see a B29, a B25, F4 and many others as well as the first plane I ever flew in: a DC3. You'll also see more MIGs than you can imagine. The docents (an incredible set of true American Heroes) give you a map to makes sure you see them all and will even be willing to take you on a tour.

If you've ever seen the movie "Pearl Harbor" you will want to take special attention to the B25. Smaller than you might imagine, it makes one think more about the men that flew it to Japan to deliver a special message .......

I want to go back again and again. It reminded me of the strength and conviction for independence that, hopefully, all of us still embrace.

If you're looking for an interesting museum in Riverside, check out the Field Air Museum! I learned quite a few new things about air travel & history!

By Michele C |

Living here all these years and this was my first visit. The planes are original from all over the world. The guides know about the planes from personal experience much of the time. It was quite hot but there was a tour vehicle there with a knowledgable and energetic guide. Even my 11 year old travel partner enjoyed the whole thing. It is worth the small price of the entrance to go look.

By ffoley |

This museum has a large variety of airplanes- primarily war craft. The guides are knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. It has activities and items of interest for all ages. For the younger children, there are some smaller children's "aircraft" There are helmets, hats and military uniforms to try on. The field of planes is very large and it is probably best to get the tram guided tour.

By HaroldC533 |

I enjoyed the visit here as well as my kids for a few hours of so much to see. You really have to take your time but the older planes were right there to walk under and inspect. Plus they had a very good display of the clothing used over the years including a good sized space program as well.

By John L |

A bit of a diamond in the rough. But, they have a fabulous selections of planes. From Props to Jets. WWII, Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam. Check out the museum inside too. A little bit of everything.

By Paul x |

The museum has a combined indoor and outdoor display that captures the whole range of the history of flight in the US , including full size exhibits of combat and non-combat aircraft from all Services. Inside , they showcase uniforms , accessories and memorabilia as well as showcasing the "Blackbird" and a few other aircraft. Outside they have a large display of US Service aircraft that span the 20th and 21st centuries.

By Mary B |

My 18 year old loves this place. Up close views of a variety of military aircraft and historical items. Great place for kids of all ages, not too large manageable visit ... can spend 1hr up to 3 or 4 and gave. a great experience

By bettyboopjudy |

So many great volunteers who share their time, stories and expertise. My husband and I always enjoy visiting the displays of our great nations aircraft.

Reading and hearing the real facts and news of the wars of our past history come much more alive than what any of us ever learned in our History classes in school. It would be grand if the men and women who fought our wars and gave their all for our freedom would be able to meet us in the classroom.

So little is really known of what has happened in wars gone by. We would do well to reflect on the past success and failures so that we might not find ourselves on the losing end of WWIII.

By George D |

Aside from maybe the Smithsonian. They have a SR-71 Blackbird that you can get up to the cockpit and touch. A P-38 lighting, and about 40 +- other aircraft including copters and a host of vintage Air Force equipment and hardware, uniforms etc. etc. Very friendly staff. Worth the trip.

By lxjuarez |

Visited this place in a hot summer day, if you must come on summer but is open year around so other seasons are good too. This is an awesome place if you like plains and history. Great picture opportunities. Our kids love it!! Price is reasonable, plenty of places to grab lunch or dinner after you visit. The volunteers are great and always willing to answer questions and share personal stories about their time during service.

By Robert S |

Anybody who is even a little into older planes will love this place, fantastic display of all sorts of jets and bombers and a fine display of uniforms and other pilot items. A must see if you are in the area.

By Gary R |

Took a visiting friend who is a pilot and plane buff out to the museum Memorial Day weekend. It was busy but still very accessible and fun. We both had a great time. There is a lot of new stuff since my last visit several years ago. They've added some great exhibits indoors and out. Don't miss the Viet Nam era helicopter base. They also have a neat gift shop. A real Inland Empire gem.

By dudeman8 |

I thoroughly enjoyed walking around their great collection of Fighters and bombers. Most impressive were the big bombers such as B52, B47, B29 and B17.

Their collection of fighters is so cool and I enjoyed reading their specs and about their distinguished service.

By Michael C |

We had some extra time when we visited Riverside area so we stopped by the Air Museum. The monument to the military dogs when you first arrive was quite impressive. As you walk inside, the scope went from early flight to current and space. The guided outdoor tram tour was a definite must do, the guide was informative, a crew chief mechanic and had a lot of information to share about all of the planes outdoors. Years used, military actions involved, even how fly able each aircraft was over the years. A great three hours.

By scuttle |

Friendly and fully briefed staff, fantastic collection of aircraft, lovely displays commemorating past wars and a very good Vietnam war compound. It's worth taking the trolley tour because it's quite a large collection and the guide is very knowledgeable. It also has an excellent library staffed by friendly volunteers . The B 52 is there as well as the SR 71 Blackbird: you can actually touch the machine and stand alongside the open cockpit. The displays are both inside and outside and the museum has a good shop but unfortunately no cafe.

By Helomech1969 |

I have always wanted to visit this place. Unfortunately my first visit was for a memorial service for a friend who served in the military. From what I did see to what we had access to and what we could see over the fence looks pretty amazing. We have purchased a family pass and plan on going before the end of 2016 to view everything they have. I feel very confident that I will give this a high-ranking after my visit with family this year. This is a must-do when in the area or driving through the area if you are a fan of Aviation! Don't forget to check out the gift shop as they have a good selection of many things.

By Ryan F |

March Field Air Museum is an excellent facility, with friendly staff and a diverse collection of aircraft and aircraft-related items. Given its proximity to other first-rate air museums like those in Chino and the California Science Center in LA, Blackbird Park in Palmdale, and so many others between San Diego and the Central Coast, it is amazing how much this museum has to offer. From its outdoor collection of many staples of 20th Century Military Aircraft, to its superbly curated collection of leather "bomber" jackets, to a unique display wall of historic footlockers -some bearing famous names, the museum is a local treasure that is not to be missed. The museum's centerpiece is its exceptionally displayed SR-71, which offers a rare glimpse into the cockpit area not afforded at most of the facilities exhibiting this type of aircraft. I'm glad I took some time from my week's schedule to pay a visit and hope to come back soon!

By Abhishek Sharma |

I recommend it to everyone who likes aircrafts especially the blackbird and stratofortress fans. This is what one rare place where you can peak inside the cockpit of a SR71 which is epic. You must visit here to experience this at least once.

By SoCalOregonian |

After parking your car as you proceed into the museum building, which houses numerous exhibits and the gift shop, you pass a courtyard that houses, the National Distinguished Flying Cross Memorial, a MWD memorial and P-38 lightning memorial. After touring the inside museum you walk outside and can admire approximately 50 static aircraft. From WWII through OIF. Well worth the price of admission. One HINT.....Go in the Winter or early Spring. The heat during the outside makes the outdoor viewing very uncomfortable. Every volunteer and docent I have encountered has been very friendly and knowledgeable. Admission is $10. Free to Active Duty.

By CorvetteZ06Bob |

In years gone by, this was a place you could come and visit for free but like most places now, everything comes with a charge. The fees are not too bad but if you're an aviation history buff, then this is a must stop in place

By willandkimdavis |

Hello,
It was very interesting. I took my nephew and he was thrilled to see all the old aircraft like in the movies. Adults and children would enjoy visiting.

By 1Gl0balTraveler |

Great way to spend a day, they have a great "petting zoo" of aircraft outside and wonderful memories inside...a little something for everyone to see military past to present. I really enjoyed the experience and recommend it to anyone who loves military history and equipment. It can get hot outside so make sure you're hydrated and wearing comfortable clothes.

By Msdevine19 |

This place is cool for those that have an interest in airplanes. I took my nephew here and he loved it.

By Peter S |

Great for teens and toddlers who touch everything. The staff are helpful and friendly. Stop by and touch history!

A very fascinating historical museum. Many aspects to review, many planes to see, informative articles.

By nekay411 |

You cant get in any of the planes only on certain days. Theres a lot of walking so prepare for that. But its pretty cool if you like history etc. kids loved it.

By Ashley Mantras |

It doesn't matter if you are a fan of planes and flying or not, this place is amazing and interesting. It's not as small as you think and there are lots of different planes and exhibits to walk through. They keep it very well maintained and it's usually filled with families. There are some planes your children can get into and pretend they are pilots. Totally worth a stop.

By DaveVWV |

We went to March AFB for a car show on the grounds. We ended up walking the museum grounds for a few hours. We got to see up close a number of vintage aircraft we had never seen in person before. B-17, 29 and 52 bombers. KC-97, SR-71, Nigs and Phantoms. LOTS of planes that you can walk around and under. First time ever for me inside a B-29 bomb bay......cool. We were there in Winter......summer may be a different story!! Worth the $10 easy.

By Amsetus |

There are aircraft from the eve of airplanes (WWl) to some modern ones as the self flying drones. The Blackbird spy plane would be one of the central pieces, along with some Russian Migs. A very knowledgeable volunteer made very entertaining explanation on some of the airplanes. There are also some helicopters and bombers. If you are in the area, do not miss this museum.

By Sarge197 |

If you have any interest in historic military aircraft and other military items, this is a must see attraction. Fixed wing, rotary wing, space travel, and even the SR-71 Blackbird, up close and personal.

There is also a "War Dog Memorial", a hangar dedicated to the P-38 Lightning, and a memorial patio containing thousands of engraved tiles. There is a great gift store with items for kids, retired military, active military, and anyone who respects those who keep us all safe.

Docents are available to answer questions about the dozens of aircraft parked outside the museum building. Admission is very reasonable at about $10 for anyone 12 years old and up; $5 for those under 12 and active/reserve/guard members with ID free.

Inside the museum you will find a collection of old military uniforms, weapons, flight simulators, and other interesting pieces of history. I have visited the museum at least twice per year over the past 4 years and I always seem to see something new. The museum is great for all ages.

This is a very fine facility with an excellent group of aircraft on display. They have created a magnificent display for their SR-71 and related reconnaissance equipment They have also put together a Vietnam War firebase that shows the layout and helicopters from that time period.

My wife and I spent about a half a day touring and exploring this air museum. If you are a history buff and like aircraft (planes and helicopters) from the recent past back to WW1, you will love visiting this museum. The number and variety of aircraft is excellent and you have some great examples of both piston and jet engine technology, including a number of Russian MIGs. There is a B52 on display outside and the size of that aircraft is just simply overwhelming. I would do the outside tour of aircraft as early as possible in the morning if you are going in the summer, as it gets over 100 degrees outside in the afternoon. Leave the air conditioned interior museum, which houses the SR71 Blackbird and some vintage WW1 aircraft, for the later viewing. The cost is very reasonable, $10 per person, while active military get in for free. I wish they would allow people to go inside the aircraft, but apparently they had problems with pilferage in the past so had to shut that option down. They do have some internal displays where you can sit in a cockpit and see the type of instrumentation involved. Just being able to explore the SR71 is in itself worth the visit, as it is the fastest plane ever developed and has jet engines the size of a small bus (they have a separate SR71 jet engine displayed along side the jet). I could have spent more time at this museum had I been by myself, as there is also a ton of WWII memorabilia and displays in the museum that are very interesting. Museum opens at 9 am. All the tour guides are volunteers and they are quite helpful in answering any questions you might have.

We came from Escondido to visit this museum and it took us about an hour to get there. Don't count on Google maps to get you to the final destination as the address that showed on the museum site was about 2 blocks away from the actual site. We notified the museum staff so that may have been fixed.

My wife and I had planned a weekend getaway to the Mission Inn. Both of us had known about the March Air Museum but had never been there before. It was hot as heck outside but comfortable inside. We opted for the tram ride around the outdoor aircraft which was a great choice given the heat. Our tour guide was great and he added some comedy along the way. He was not former military but he definitely knew the planes, their history, and cared about the museum. We especially liked the amount of history that the museum keeps on file. I would love to have been given the opportunity to climb in the planes but I understand the rules. The museum was great and I plan to go back and spend more time - just when it isn't 100 degrees outside. I give this place a huge thumbs up.

This is always a great stop with Kids we loved taking our retired military dog to see the war dog memorial and museum.

recently my company held a day retreat at the air museum. Everyone had a wonderful time. Really enjoyed the museum. It was a lot bigger than I expected and had lots of interesting information. Great history for the kids to see. I would definitely recommend the March Air Museum as a good place to spend a day reading and experience our history. I wish I had taken my kids there when they were young.

A great day. I was stationed at

Often. My grandsons enjoyed everything very much.

Was expecting a small museum and was surprised to see the variety. The help are very friendly and nice and ready and willing to answer any questions. They have lots of fighters on display, but the highlights are the Blackbird, Wright Brothers replica, interesting displays and bombers. You don't get the chance to see how huge these bombers are, to walk around them and imagine the activities they were in. Amazing, breathtaking and awe inspiring. It's a tribute to those who made them fly. Something I will never forget. Just great.

By mmssht |

It's great ,especially if you been in the service, let's just amazing ,how these planes flew? There is a lot of planes ,from navy to air force to presidential planes.

By Floyd S |

With the museum continually expanding it is worth a visit if you haven't been there in a while. The staff is helpful and it is now easy to reach by car.

Hubby and I are retired USAF and visit this place almost every time we're in the area. Love the aircraft; the helicopters; the displays; the gift shop inventory and the veterans we meet on each visit.

Great for history buffs; couples and families.

By kenneths197 |

It was incredibly thrilling to take my kids and many relatives to the museum. The best part was an aircraft I was Crew Chief on in the Air Force on display. I won't say which one

By Steve W |

This is a not to be missed for the aviation enthusiast. Fantastic outdoor display of aircraft and very nice indoor display. I was treated very well by the staff. Kudos to this museum.

By kingrodney40 |

Very informative and up close look at planes used in Air force history. It was great to be able to walk around and look at the differant aircraft.

By gregnem |

I took my family to the air museum after driving past it countless times and we weren't disappointed. The staff is so friendly and had so much information about the different aircraft and exhibits. It is an inexpensive time for the whole family.

On the way to diamond lake, we accidentally saw this March Field Air Museum. We turn back to check. Wow, it is really interesting place to explore! A retired air-force officer explained how to develop the amazing airplane only spent 23 months! Also explained the features from the outside paint, machine function, speed, etc. A lot of knowledge we learn! It is excellent place for people who are interested Physics and Chemistry, and more, no matter ages, if you want to learn! We love it! We will visit it again!

By DavidBLasVegas |

We've driven past this place a dozen times or more and we finally stopped. It was well worth the $10 admission. It didn't take long to see all the exhibits. Seeing all the historic planes up close was pretty cool. I don't know how many times I said "I didn't realize it was this BIG!"

By Chris F |

They had a lot of great planes there. If you like WWII planes, this is the place. Admission was only $10, and there were not a lot of people there on the day of my visit. It was very easy to drive to with plenty of free parking.

By Cynthia H |

Lots of planes and outside set up as MASH on the TV program. Lots of planes to see, Silent Auction and dinner
Have also spent an afternoon looking at war memorabilia as well as all the planes, My favorite the Blackbird SR-71.

By A9957KTchristopherr |

The March Museum has a lot of History! I wish it would of had a lot more planes but it was very interesting & family oriented.

By Belinda R |

Excellent time, people that work their are very nice and informative. We will recommend this MFAM to other family members

By Matthew R |

Great place for kids. They have a place for children to play inside with props and plenty of room outside for exploring. Really entertaining for adults as well looking to have an up close look at a wide range of retired military aircrafts.

The Museum is at the March Air Force base, but a US Military ID is not required to enter the Museum. The cost is $10.00 USD, with no discounts offered.

The Museum contains a variety of aircraft, the ones at the Vietnam exhibit were especially meaningful to me.

Be sure to chat with the person on duty located across from the cashier, they have a ton of stories to tell.

By James Mark G |

One of the best Museums in the area. If you love planes this is a must see. There is lots of histroy that comes with this museum.

By j23m83 |

The whole museum is nicely laid out. The self tour allows you to take your time and get up close and see many great details on each plane. You can also watch planes actively using the base. We really enjoyed the outdoor Vietnam Era display.

The March Field Air Museum has undergone a great deal of improvements over the past fews years (before 2017) including new displays, far more organized layout, and hired a full time curator. There are some displays that children (and tall children) can see and put their hands on. Many of the displays are view only for a variety of reasons. There is a book store and gift shop that has books on the Air Force, March Field and other military services. They host each year. or did, a War Dog event honoring military dogs - sorry can't remember when that is but if you call I'm sure they can let you know or you may find it on their website. I recently donated things from my father's service in WWII in the Pacific that will now be kept in archive safe and protected, and met with the new full time curator Jeff Houlihan who was terrific and very knowledgable. It would be great if instead of developing the property south of the museum that March Joint Powers Authority would donate/give or sell very cheap the land to the museum to expand as they are landlocked -- currently March Joint Powers Authority plans to build warehouses there // just what we need more warehouses no? I recommend going early in the morning in the summer as the open displays will have less glare from the sun and not be so hot. It's a nice family day out.

By Jonathan B |

The staff was knowledgeable and the planes were well maintained I have have 2 small children and they loved the museum and the tour we took a wonderful experience would recommend all families to experience this

By MustTravel88 |

Great array of airplanes. The SR-71A Blackbird is inside the museum along with other educational displays. Outside there is a Phantom RF-4C; F101B Voodoo Fighter; B-52 and the KC-135 Stratotanker to name a few along with the Service Dog Memorial. Not to be missed.

We are fortunate enough to be road schooling our 11 and 8 year olds. We stopped at the Field Air Museum to work on a Girl Scout badge. Upon entering the exhibits we were greeted by a wicked knowledgeable guide. He has so much great info for both us and the kids and shares in a way that was interesting to kids and adults. Our tram guide was also great. We lucked out and saw a ton of planes landing and taking off and our guide was happy to let us know what kinds of planes they were. Loved the hands on aspect for the kids too!

By Judy H |

My husband was stationed at March AFB 50 years ago, before being deployed to Vietnam. This was his first visit back here since that time. He really enjoyed it as he loves planes and they have over 70. There was also an inside display of items from various wars and an outside replica of a Vietnam command post. It was very moving for him.

By Sarge197 |

I live within 10 miles of March Field Museum and I work within 3 miles. I often attend events held here by various service groups and community organizations. Most recently, I attended my favorite event, "Rally 'round the Flag."

The collection of military aircraft, military gear/memorabilia, and the new space exhibit are amazing! They have an SR-71 Blackbird inside, just to give you a measure of the museum's quality. They have dozens of aircraft surrounding the museum and several special memorials as well. The "War Dog" memorial is a favorite for many.

The museum is staffed by docents, most or all of whom served in one branch of the service or another. They are friendly, knowledgable, and always ready to answer questions. They even have one large cargo plane (not sure which model) that they open up and rent out for parties!

If you are in the area of Riverside/Moreno Valley California and you enjoy aviation and/or military history, this is a true "must see" attraction for you! You won't be disappointed! Oh, and I believe the entry fee is only about $10 or $12 per person. I'm not certain on the price, but it is very reasonable.

I have visited the museum no fewer than 6 times in the past three years and I have always enjoyed my visits. There always seems to be something new to see. The gift shop is well stocked and you are sure to find something for your service member/aspiring service member, regardless of their branch.

In an area rich with military history, this museum is, in my opinion, the best Riverside County has to offer. It is situated only a short 5 minute drive away from Riverside National Cemetery, another beautiful place to visit and honor those who served.

If you are in the area for more than a couple days, you might also consider a two-hour road trip to San Diego where you can tour the USS Midway, a retired U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. Another amazing memorial to those who served or continue to serve this great nation.

By Jan32978 |

We have been coming here for a long time. They have made some nice changes to the exhibits but was disappointed in the lack of facts on some of them. Another disappointment were the kids climbing on the monuments. Monuments are not playgrounds and should be respected. Saw kids throwing half eaten orange on the ground and not picking it up. Sorry to see this happen to a nice place. Really is not a playground and if you do take your children, please keep them under control and teach them some respect.

By wranglernwss |

This place is amazing... I remember going to March Air Force Base as a kid for air shows and to see that they are preserving history at the museum the way that they are is great. It is neat to see the variety of planes. The only thing that would make this any better would be the ability to walk the inside of some of the favorites. There is a good amount of hands on and stuff to look at, Make sure you take time to stop.

By George B |

We came across the March field Museum by accident - the entry cost was $10 per person.

It is well worth a visit - it has a huge collection of memorabilia, aircraft, history, video displays.
A vast number of aircraft are on display - American and Soviet

The museum is spread out over a large area - there are "bus" tours every hour for persons with mobility issues.

The museum is also the headquarters of the P38 Association.
We thought i would be a quick visit but !! we were there for quite a few hours - do not miss

By shellz61 |

Very enjoyable outing with a great staff on board to answer questions and chat with. It was quite warm and stuffy in the main hangar on a not so hot day, so that kind of took away from the enjoyment of taking in all the displays. But just having my favorite aircraft of all time (SR71) was enough for me to recommend this place. Eavesdropped for a while with an ROTC group taking a tour so got a little extra info. All in all a nice place to while away a few hours.

By Tethier919 |

Located just off the highway. $10 admission. Home of the SR-71 Blackbird, one of which is on display. Many indoor exhibits of people flight and space flight. Outdoors there are probably 50 planes of all sizes and types with informative plaques with the history of the plane. We combined this with 18 holes of golf at the General Old Course 5 minutes away. Do not miss!!

By pberrier-ws-nc |

We visited the air museum for the Memorial Day Air Show and Flower Drop. What an enjoyable day! All the aircraft were fascinating, as were the exhibits in the hangars. Free water was provided at the air show. I would recommend carrying a bottle of water with you during warmer weather when there are outdoor exhibits. Allow yourself plenty of time to see as much as possible.

By James A |

Tons of planes to look at and also lots of other military dress and artifacts. A must see place for kids.

By Turnerz |

The museum is well worth visiting, we called in on the way to Palm Springs. Highlights were the SR71 and Vietnam collection including realistic sound effects but there are many more static aircraft. Thanks to the guys that gave us a tour inside the Starlifter it was a memorable visit.

By BB61-Sailor |

Visited in July, wouldn't recommend it due to the heat. Overall it is an excellent museum with a wide varity of aircraft from WW2 to the modern era. Allow at least 2 hrs to enjoy all the exhib

By Dfineout |

I've had the privilege of visiting many military museums over the years. This is the most impressive collection of military airplanes, artifacts, uniforms and background that I've visited. It's a fair amount of walking, due to the expansive area required for all the planes, but it has well paved walkways. There is a tram/tour service available, however I did not see it running on my Tuesday early afternoon visit. It is mostly outdoors, so summer weather can be a bit warm.

By Greg E |

Sitting adjacent to the March Air Reserve Base (ARB) in Riverside, CA, is a wonderful museum whose recent expansion efforts really payed off. A SR-71 now sits completely inside the main exhibit area and features a ladder positioned next to the aircraft which allows for almost unrestricted viewing ob both cockpits. Adjacent to the SR-71 is a Bell P-59 Airacomet which makes for for a stunning comparison as to how far technology moved forward between October of 1942 and December of 1964. Outside displays are significant and notably include the following MiGs: 15, 17, 19, 21 and 23 along with combat veterans B-17, 29 and B-52. Many more aircraft are displayed so check their website for full listings. Access is very easy off Interstate 215 as the Museum is not on the ARB proper. Riverside temps in the summer months can be above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The Museum has a well-stocked gift shop with cold drinks but does not have a cafe.Well worth a trip to see when visiting Southern California!

By georgeonwhidbey |

My buddy and I spent 3 hours total with about 45 minutes inside and the balance outside. Bring the kids. Bring sunglasses and a hat too.
So many airplanes! A few helicopters too.
The tour is self guided with placards to tell you about what you are seeing.
So much history wrapped up with these jets/planes.
Excellent gift shop!
Recommendations for the staff: The docents tended to stay inside and should go outside to provide more assistance. Also, thinking about it, I would pipe music outside too. I would make the refrigerated water and sodas more accessible than just behind the cash register in the gift shop. I would offer small umbrellas for people with sun issues.

All my life I'd wanted to learn to fly. Several years ago I DID; got my pilot's license and enjoyed several flights, solo and with my wife. Then life happened AND they changed the gas for the airplanes which made it too expensive to fly. Nonetheless I love to visit every flight museum I can and this one's well worth the time. My entire family actually went...two daughters and their husbands two grands and me and my wife. It's great that they're open daily so one doesn't have to feel like one has to see everything all at once. I even return on my own to see if they have anything new but still enjoy all the old stuff. An aside: There's even a large air museum in Palm Springs you can see after you visit here.

By 976iamp |

This is the best place in Riverside and I suggest everyone who travels here should visit this air museum. The place is large and there are kinds of aircrafts, specially famous airplanes in World War II. Good place to visit.

By Robert B |

If you served in the Air Force in the last 75 years this place is a must. Great static displays, a for real SR71 that you can look in the cockpit, and interactive stuff for kids. As previously mentioned, time your visit for cooler months or early morning-the flight line gets hot.

By christyin |

Great Air Museum! It has expanded so much over the years. We attended a fundraising event there and it was an amazing venue for a party! The ambiance was incredible! Check out the evening pictures.
Can’t wait to go back and spend more time walking outside the hangars and viewing the many aircraft on the property.

By TravelSpidey |

Some are weathered but many look like they could be fired up, taxi and take-off. The F-14 has some weird missile looking things hanging on wing stations. Worth a visit!

By Randy L |

Best collection of post-WWII military aircraft that I've seen. They have a few WWII bombers--B-17, B-25, B-26, B-29. Cool to see some of the transition jet aircraft, aircraft from the Korean War, Vietnam, and some that are still in use. Several aircraft that I had never seen before, or even knew that they existed. Reasonable cost, helpful and enthusiastic volunteers, many of whom have personal experience with the aircraft, and exhaustive displays and videos. Nice restrooms, cooled water fountains, tram tours available for a small fee. Even though I am a military aircraft and military history fan, I enjoyed adding to my knowledge and understanding by visiting this museum, and taking the tram tour.

First, I want to explain that I am NOT interested in planes. But my 4 yr old grandson was excited about the planes every time we drove by March field. So we decided to go. Then we got my daughter in law and kids to go. WE ALL HAD a WONDERFUL TIME! Beautiful weather and the volunteers were fantastic! We had 5 adults and 4 grandchildren. ages 6 mos to 8yrs. What was especially fun for the 8 yrs old was a scavenger hunt the museum does for kids. It opened my eyes to alot of things they had to offer. With each item on the page she was supposed to look for in the whole museum with the scavenger hunt they had an animal connected to it. Like a gremlin looking into the window on a plane. Except the Star wars Tie Fighter. It opened my eyes to alot of things the museum had to offer. The volunteers were very patient with the kids and answered a lot of questions. Lots of families were there. What is Really interesting is that "The Travel Channel Ghost Adventures" were there last year because they heard about the ghosts that are living on the fiels and in the museum. The Museum does special tours for the Ghost Chasers. By the way Mike was one volunteer who knows about the ghosts. He told me personally what happened to him in 1 of the planes. Great day by all!

Nice place to go and observe planes and Lear some history kids loved, big pace to have a great day with the family

By Me_n_my_rucksack |

Im not sure why this museum doesn't have a higher profile as it is excellent.

Located on the other side of the airfield from the actual air base the museum has numerous hangars and a lot of open space in which to display their fairly extensive collection of aircraft.

After walking past some cold war jets and memorials the welcome into the main hangar was very friendly and one is made to feel at home straight away.

The main hangar is dominated by a SR71 Blackbird - the gorgeous streamlined Mach 3 "Secret" spy plane and one can climb some steps to look into the cockpit which was very interesting. A surprisigly impressive display consisted of the Navigators and Electronic Warfare operators positions on a B52 !

Outside there is a large collection of mainly cold war aircraft sat on the sunbaked sandy soil - mainly American. A huge B52 and C141, F111, Phantom, Tomcat, Delta Dart, F15 Eagle,Corsair KC135 and many other aircraft - a whole plethora of US Cold war air power. A highlight was a B29 sat next to a mock up of a "Little Boy" A Bomb..... The few foreign aircraft are almost discarded out of the way - particularly a MiG 23 which is almost dumped in a corner and appears ro be decaying dramatically.

There is an interesting mock up of a Vietnam era firebase with Helicopters from that era sat within it.

All in all a superb museum - the only possible criticism is a lack of a cafe - but small issue (There is a large shop selling souvineers, models, Tee Shirts etc etc).

Certainly worth the effort to get here.....

I kind of ran into this place as I visited Riverside, and wanted to kill time to avoid traffic. The place seems like a hidden gem as I don't think many people really know about this place. It's got all kinds of planes, and they are pretty fascinating to see. I would definitely recommend the guided tour to understand the historical context of each of the planes. The guides are often retired pilots or air force guys, so they know what they are talking about. Great visit and definitely recommended.

By monte54 |

The SR-71 Blackbird is the highlight here, especially the weekend we were there for an SR-71 Symposium, but there are so many other planes to see. The Symposium we attended takes place every other year. There were 20 former pilots and crew members who were there to share stories, facts and figures, as well as to autograph books, pictures, models, and the like. It was a great weekend to learn all about this magnificent aircraft and its history. But besides that, the museum just has tons of other planes, the National Distinguished Flying Cross Memorial, and other memorials, a fantastic aviation library, and a well-stocked shop full of aviation "stuff" to buy. And because we had a couple young grandchildren with us, we especially appreciated the corner of the museum devoted to little ones, with pages for them to color, and things for them to touch and learn from. Very kid-friendly place!

By lar122017 |

For a small museum, no detail of every artifact has been overlooked, from the SR-71 to the information table created with an airplane wing. The static displays are flanked by signs that provide historical data that will satisfy all.

Enjoy!

By Christina |

Loved the old planes. some that I rode in my time in the military. The blackbird is impressive. we also went for a function for fundraising and it was a great time

By Bigkahuna |

Had the same measure of finally entering this site after driving by so many years. A close friend hosted a corporate Christmas party here and I’m glad I went. The docents were great and informative and there’s plenty to see here. I highly recommend an afternoon here.

By Lauren W |

Went with a friend today and it was super lovely! The planes were really cool to see, alongside some of the more indoor exhibits. There was also a radio section in the back, run by volunteers. It was super cool and I genuinely hope everyone there is given credit where its due.
Overall very fun trip and I'd love to go back!

By travels_frequently |

Displayed inside the hangar is the centerpiece SR-71 Blackbird and several other aircraft associated with March AFB.

Lots of interesting aircraft (most of the collection) are displayed outside from MiGs (15, 17, 19, 21) to the F-14 and F-15. One of only two existant Northrop A-9 attack aircraft that lost out on the USAF contract to the A-10 Warthog. Plenty of Vietnam era helicopters in a separate outdoor display. Vietnam and Korean era fighters and several transport aircraft are present as well. Outdoor display includes a B-17, B-29, and a B-52 as well as several less well known aircraft.

We visited all four airplane museums in the area. Our preference in order: Planes of Fame, March Airfield, Yanks Air Museum and Lyon Air Museum. Please check out our other reviews for these museums too.

By Gail H |

It's a good place to take the kids and let them see old planes. A little history lesson for the whole family.

By Raysagolfing |

What a great place to visit. So many planes and monuments. There are so many personal donations of uniforms, equipment, and stories. You should plan to spend three hours here, as you are inside and outside the museum with the planes. A special highlight is the P-38 planes and displays.

By Richard S |

We stopped en route to Bakersfield as a pit stop and we are so glad we did. This museum, set at the historic March Airfield is fantadtic, most of the aircraft are outside, but if its raining they have umbrellas! The range of aircaft is breathtaking from a B17 to a B52! Theres plenty to do for kids with i teractive displays. What was cool for us from the UK was to find a display about the blitz in London and the trenches from WWI. You also need to check out the memorials out front, especially to the K9s

This is a must visit museum!

By DS9MW |

When you drive by this venue (you can see the aircraft from the freeway) it doesn't really look like much other than aircraft sitting outdoors, but once you actually take the time to visit the location and you're up close to the aircraft and you can see the detail and then also take photos and see their size and functionality do you then realize the scope of things. Add to that there is a museum located in one of the hangers and the docents are very informative and available to answer just about any question from the aircraft to the base and everything in between. If you have the time I recommend visiting especially if you travel this freeway daily, hop off take a peek and then continue on your journey. Very assessable from the freeway. When there are air shows on the base this place is really crowded, therefore off season you're in and out with no crowds and are able to enjoy the aircraft and get the most out of any of the docents or volunteers

By Matt E |

My passion for the Air planes and the history in general led me to this great museum in Riverside. Whether your solo, couple, family i can assure you that you will like it so much and enjoy it

By Bruce H |

My brother and I are Air Force vets and visit whenever we can. So we revive old memories and bond anew. He was KC-135 crew chief and I was Sage (ChADS/PADS). So as we walked and talked most of the aircraft were old friends. We share not only blood but experiences.

By garygeorge3 |

So easy to find off the 215 Freeway this is a wonderful museum. There is ample car parking and a short stroll to the entrance, stop on the way to look at the tribute to the war dog. Here is a beautiful sculpture of a serviceman and his dog, tiles are enscripted with messages, quite touching, the impact they had on their keepers. A very reasonable $10 is charged for entry. The volunteers here are welcoming and very knowledgeable. Inside the hangar is an SR-71, the great thingBout this one is that you can climb steps and view inside the cockpit, both canopies are open. Outside there is a wonderful array of military aircraft thoughtfully laid out. A lone B-17 makes a wonderful photo op with the the snow capped mountains behind. There is a great reconstruction of a Vietnam helicopter base, complete withe sound of running engines and spinning rotors. Limited refreshments aware available in the gift shop, remember it gets hot here, so stay hydrated. Check out the bomb bay of the B-29 and Mig alley, all this set next to the working air base, on the day we were there, 4 different types operating just in front of us. Finally my personal favourite, the amazing F-105 next to the entrance.

By Steven Cody W |

My dad and I stopped in here after visiting my grandparents at the national cemetery. It was pretty great air museum. You are able to walk the grounds and get real close to the planes. There are a lot of people around to give you great information about the planes and history. Large grounds for walking and they have a lot of services to getting around otherwise.

By Christopher D |

Love planes and the guys have one of the best collections I have ever seen. WWII prop jobs to cold war spy -planes Helos, B-52, the whole 9 yards. Worth the time and donation. Come look at aviation history come alive

A fantastic experience. I spent 3 hours there and could have spent more time both inside the museum and viewing the outside exhibitions.

if it is summer time bring a hat.

By Remmy700P |

The aviation, space and military history on display is fantastic. They've redone a lot of the exhibits. Walking their flight line givesvyou an up close and personal trip back through military aviation history.

By MamaRabbit007 |

Take the tram tour! worth the extra 3.! Enjoyed the information& history! Wish I could jump IN the planes!!

By MsBloo |

My 14 year old son and I stopped off here on a very rainy day. It was cold and windy so we took refuge inside the museum. But we really wanted to see the planes, so we braved the elements and paid for the 30 minute tram ride. Despite the wind and rain we had a very good time. The docent was very well versed on the planes and their history. Being right next to the base, we got to see a tanker land. Very impressive. There were several planes inside and educational displays. They even had an area for smaller children to touch and try on uniforms. We thought it was definitely worth it.

By mazveronese |

a most amazing aircraft museum stocked with some iconic examples of classic warbirds from the last century including a real SR71 Blackbird and you can get up close and personal with all of them. The volunteer staff are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and up for a informative chat. Take a hat as some of the more interesting exhibits are outside. Definitely $10 well spent!

By LBenson75 |

The museum is great for those who love and appreciate airplanes and history. It's an affordable day trip and it is enhanced when they are having a festival. During the summer, there really isn't shade and it does tend to get hot... Just be prepared :)

By Josh F |

Lived by March for years but never visited it. Took our kids and some other family and truly enjoyed the educational experience. The static displays were great even if you can't get in them. Taking my parents there next visit. Kids will love it and the info they present for various wars and air achievements.

By Eddie W |

Having visited the museum 9 years ago I was pleased to see that there has been a number of improvements at this superb facility. The layout has slightly changed, making for better photographs, and the addition of a very informative tour, excellent. Well worth a couple of hours of wandering round some old, well maintained, aircraft.

By kelliducloux1 |

I took my son here when he was about 7 when airplanes were cool for him. I like how we got to really touch the planes and we even got in 1 or 2 of them. The inside part has the information and displays. It's a little 1-room hanger with exhibits through-out. Nice little trip for the children.

By Christy D |

We visited this morning, the first time in over 20 years. To quote a docent, "Back then it was an attic. Today, it's a museum." We paid the extra $3 to ride the tram, and have a tour of the planes, with detailed and interesting facts about each aircraft. The museum inside was chock-full of interesting displays, and seemed to stretch on and on. We didn't take the time to look closely at everything, instead zeroing in on the areas that interested us most, yet we found we spent almost three hours there! Worth the visit, especially if you are a Patriot.

By JacM1010 |

The March Field Air Museum is actually open from 9-5 and is packed with history. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and a critical piece of the museum. The planes, helicopters, vehicles and assortment of bombs on display are amazing. The displays inside are so full of history, it just blew me away. If you have already been, go again, they are always changing the displays, because they have more to share! SO glad I went, thank you for being there!

By mgalex |

There are new planes and many new exhibits since we were here several years ago. they now have an exhibit Room with Air force uniforms and accessories dating back to WWI as well as a room dedicated to the Space program. You can do a self-guided tour or a tram tour with a docent. Some of our favorites are the newer jets, the B52, Starlight (the huge transport) and Blackbird SR71. It is all done by volunteers and donations and very impressive.

By Keith S |

We stopped by on the way back home just by accident. Filled with history and a up and close look at the world of flight. To be able to stand right next to these incredible planes and learn about them and the men and women who served the country is an experience not to be missed

Our family with children ages 5 and 11 as well as 4 adults visited and spent 3 hours. The children had a good time. Inside the large building were exhibits that also included ones the kids could interact with, so kept their interest. Outside are many planes that can be approached but not entered. There is also a memorial area before entering the building.

The SR-71 Blackbird spy plane is super impressive and you can peek into the cockpit.

It can be hot to view the outside displays of planes but the building was cool so a visit early in the day or on a cooler day would be the most comfortable.

Beautiful place to go and walk. Lots of local residents frequent this place. It is such a excellent place to walk, relax and have a nice picnic.

Been here several times. Always an interesting time. It has lots of things to see! Never been disappointed.

By ANGEL C |

If like military planes and history, this is the place to go. You can spend hours walking around and reading up the history.

By panamama |

The museum it self is nothing special, so pay the $3 extra and take the guided cart tour of the outdoor airfield. It is well worth it. If you are lucky you will see the F16s practice. That was a real thrill.

There is a memorial here for dogs that have served in combat. Despite the nearby freeway noise, you have a moment to reflect on what these dogs and their handlers have gone through for Freedom. Add that to a terrific history of the men and women who have served in the air during war time, including the Cold War. Plus a rather large collection of war birds, including enemy aircraft - take the shuttle tour - makes this a must see for plane enthusiasts.

Over the Memorial Day weekend (2018) we dropped by for a visit to the March Field Air Museum. I'd been interested in visiting for some time now but never had the chance. Other reviewers have commented on the collection so rather than discuss that, here's some logistical items for your visit:

1. The museum is located right off the freeway and makes for easy access. Parking is ample.

2. Be prepared to walk a lot as the flight line is pretty extensive. My Fitbit indicated I amassed a bit more than 11,000 steps ... LOL

3. Speaking of walking, the flight line doesn't have any shade so if it's a hot/warm sunny day, bring water, good shoes and a hat.

4. ... and a camera of course ...

5. There's a tour that you can take with a docent that's much easier on your feet as they use those little eight passenger electric carts.

Plan on spending at least two to three hours to see all the planes and exhibits. There's a lot here so take your time.

We enjoyed the airplanes and history here. Very interesting and cool place to visit. Highly recommended.

Good visit after a warm welcome by a veteran. The museum has a lot on display, both inside and out. But the outside line-up of planes is really impressive, next to the runway of March airforce base.
Also, don't forget to visit their shop. Found some special items!

This is our third trip to the March Field Air Museum spanning many years. NUMEROUS changes and worth the trip. Easy access off of the I-215 ample free parking.

The museum is a mix of indoor and outdoor aircraft displays. Inland Southern California so prepare for the weather. On our visit it was in the mid 90s without a cloud in the sky - Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The indoor display areas were cool, the outdoor display areas were getting hot. Sun shelter is inside.

The signage has changed and not a fan and yet giving the museum five stars. Now it is technology driven - scan a QR code for more than extremely basic information. I prefer the larger write-ups. However, with signage outside, particularly in this weather, those signs take a beating.

Child friendly, family friendly, as long as the visitors are into airplanes. Comfortable, walking shoes and dress for the weather.

There is a nice gift shop and plenty of museum staff roaming around. The museum is expanding and we will be back.

Worth the admission fee and time.

While on active duty I flew into March several times.
Thanks,

The place has a good collection if planes, bith known and lesser known with a few very nice rarities. Add to that the location next to the runway (andif lucky see some c-17 or kc-135 take off) and you have a great morning or afternoon there.

When my kids were little they loved going to this place with their Papa. Loved seeing and going into the old airplanes.

By insight2actions |

Lots of aircraft to see, both inside and outside. When touring the aircraft outside, you are carted in a little golf cart and told about certain aircraft. Great for those whom would prefer not to walk too much. $10.00 per person to enter the museum.

By Sawyerbear |

We were in town for a softball tournament and didn't have much time but googled things to do in Riverside and this came up. It was one of the best attractions we saw on our California trip. A very cool air museum which has both a museum AND an airfield filled with planes from WW1 to present and all set with a beautifully mountainous background. If we ever get back to California we are definitely going to block out time to go back to March Air Field Museum.

By PalB09 |

It was a great trip! Make sure to take the guided tour. It costs a very nominal amount and is very informative. The guide was himself a pilot for 30 years and had flown many of the flights there. He really had great knowledge. The museum is well-maintained and has ample number of flights at display. Staffs were courteous and helpful. We also met war veterans and it was great talking to them. Overall, we enjoyed a lot.

By clarkeflagstaff |

I think everybody should come here. Bring your kids, they will be blown away with how much things have changed.

By Cheri F |

Great museum that shows military aircraft spanning many decades. The majority are outside and only a few are inside the hangers. It's about a 2 mile walk to see all outdoor planes. And we were very lucky because the C-17 was practicing "touch and goes" next door at March Air Force Base and you can sit on the bleachers and watch the take off and landings. Well worth $10 admission.

By Rick P |

The museum is comprised of aircraft saved from the scrap heap and memorabilia donated by famous and not so famous donors. A fascinating place to walk around and actually get your hands on in some cases - been in the cockpit of the B-47 used by James Stewart in the movies? Hugged a bomber lately? There are a lot of aircraft present, but not much flyable. It is maintained by hard working volunteers on a very small budget. This is a good place to visit the big stuff and see how big it actually is. If you want to see the smaller WW II type of flying aircraft, there are other air museums near by that do not compete with this one. They all enhance each other.

By Kurt M |

There are 65+ vintage military (mostly USAAF & USAF) planes dating back to the 30's. The highlights are the B-17, B-29, P-38, B-47, B-52, and the star of the show....the awesome SR-71. Wear comfortable shoes since the aircraft are spread out over more than 5 acres.

By danielhD3134OV |

By far for a small museum, this place is outstanding. They do a great job with a small place. Also have the Flying Ace park

By Brad B |

Between the Palm Springs Air Museum and March we are so fortunate to have such great museums in our back yard. As an Air Force retiree I favor the March Museum, and even own some items on display. There is no better place to spend time learning the awesome military history if Riverside and March AFB. My great Uncle was stationed at then Camp Haan during WW1 and the Dough Boys Ditties was his (on display in the WW1 section.

Whilst visiting family and friends in Ontario, Ca we took the opportunity to visit March Air Museum. Wow! For just $10 per Adult, what an experience. OK, I was formerly in the Royal Navy so places like this are usually on my list of things/places to visit whilst holidaying. However, others will find it as enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There were also USAF veterans stationed around who were most willing to chat about various aspects of the Museum and/or life in general. Not the biggest attraction I've ever visited but I did enjoy it. Unfortunately a cold, storm-force wind prematurely ended my viewing of the aircraft located outside of the buildings but I'm not complaining. When we re-visit our Son and his family next summer, I have an excuse (should one be needed) to re-visit and I will.

I’m not really a aviation nut but this was still interesting to see and never stopped here, though drive by before. A good casual place for a quick day trip. Lots of detail, great for kids.

By Robert H |

So many great planes on display. From B-17 to the might B-52 and all in between. While the obvious focus is on etch different American fighters and bombers, there were also some good examples of Migs. They had a really nice Vietnam display too. The highlight for me was being able to stand next to the B-17, B-29 and the F-14. The Sr-71 in the hanger is stunning. While you could stand right next to the planes, there is a no touch policy (nothing wrong with that). Inside the main hanger there is a mock up of some of the interior of a B-52 that can be sat in. You won't need a whole day to visit this museum. We saw it all going slowly in less than two hours.

By 4stevemandy |

This is a nice air museum that has many larger aircraft that other local museums don’t have! Much of it is outdoors, but the buildings have some nice exhibits too! Some highlights include a B-29, B-17, B-25, B-52, B-47, P38, various MiG models, a Vietnam War area and an SR-71A Blackbird spy plane! Another bonus here are the exhibits that let you get into the cockpit of an aircraft, or behind the machine gun, or up really close to the aircraft! It’s definitely worth a visit!

By Bean18 |

We always make a stop for this Must See Attraction/ Museum. A plethora of historical events that took place not too long ago. Could not stop reading all of those interesting facts. The many different kinds of Planes used then is extremely daring, these men are heroes.

By Ashley F |

If you love Airplanes this place is for you! Spend a couple hours checking out the airplanes or memorial area inside!

By Rich M |

I was very cool and informative. I served in the Marine Corps, so it was nice to see the history of aviation! Every body was nice and helpful! It was nice to be able to get up close and really check things out.

By Golfit0 |

I t has a great collection of military airplanes used by our armed forces, primarily the US Air Force. Quite a few from the WWII era. My grandchildren love to visit and see the planes that were in the inventory when I served in the Air Force.

By Mike J |

Went to March with my grandson for a school project and it was great. Lots to see, plenty of airplanes which kids of all ages love and it was not boring. My grandson had to do a report and the Viet Nam display with Huey's was a magnet to him.

By kaliforniakathy |

If you have young boys (or girls) who love planes and want that up-close experience, you need to plan a trip to the March Field Air Museum. It's hands-on friendly and fun, chock full of history, WWII memorabilia and more up-to-date aviation "stuff".

By rayh297 |

What a great place to learn about our military history. Dozens of airplanes, including the SR-71! Uniforms, medals, and stories to accompany them. A wonderful way to enjoy an afternoon!

By Perkadventures |

2 Guy's visit the Museum and found it changed for the better. This is a must see. Old Military discount given for those that qualify. This was July and very hot outside and did not visit, but the inside was better and some areas were air conditioned.

Staff was friendly and the walk around inside was well documented with interesting side venues.

Will return during low temperature to see outside. Did see some planes that were in my history in the military.

By Dan G |

The Inland Empire and surrounding area is home to some of the finest air museums I've visited anywhere. Whether Palm Springs, Chino, or March Field, each has so much to offer.
Spend the day here and take a trip back in time, both inside and out are amazing.

By ArmandoHdz |

It looks small from the outside but very will set up once inside. Clean and everyone is very helpful.

By Michellle2014 |

I am always impressed by the people who serve our country!! I love how the museum pays homage to our military, its personnel and aircraft. I recently attended a "Welcome Home" event for Vietnam Veterans. It was designed to honor our service members and the event was first rate!! Everyone American should take the time to see this place.

By Ericamarshall |

If like military planes and history this a great place to spend 2 - 3 hours. Be sure to check out the SR - 71 blackbird in the main hangar. There are also lots of military planes displayed outside. The museum is right by March Air Force base, which is fairly busy with tankers and cargo planes coming and going. Occasionally, the fighter jets go too. You get an air show bonus, with your museum ticket.

By James M |

Wonderful volunteer staff really added to this visit. Be sure to take the optional $3 tram tour of the outside flight line. This 45-minute narrated tour was great. Will come again.

By Ray G |

a peice of history. Every nostalgia buff should devote a pert of a day to visit. Yo don't have to be a fanatic to be moved by the history of our great country and the people who defend it.

By K J |

March Field is an excellent outing for the entire family. The outdoor museum includes an excellent static display of aircraft from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and beyond. The indoor displays include personal histories, a wonderful uniform collection, and a must see A-2 flight jacket collection. I wish I'd had more time to spend there. I recommend 3-hours in good weather. There is a 45 minute tram ride around the grounds which can save you some time, and provides Information about the planes and helicopters outside. Well worth the trip. The staff and docents are very nice, and provide visitors with a good experience. Ten dollars for adult tickets.

By Deanna |

I believe this museum tends to be over looked, as most zoom by it on the 215 freeway. The museum has a lot of artifacts and pieces of history regarding March Field. I found it to be interesting. You can also rent space there for retirement parties and such.

By babystjo |

We took our son's to this museum, and had a great time. Lots of parking, and lots of planes to look at. We took our time viewing the planes. My husband was able to tell us about each of the planes. Learned a lot from him, however, there are docents there that will tell you about them as well. Great place to visit, and easy to get to.

By KevinQ64 |

I have seen many museums and this is a very good one, a variety of aircraft that doesn't just focus on one era or military service. Great family experience

By Mandy E |

Surprisingly good. My husband was more excited than me to go and look at planes! I really enjoyed myself. You can actually go inside a couple of them and experience the feeling of the older planes. It really was a good day out and I would highly recommend it. Be mindful of its hot outside, don't forget the hat! Enjoyable!

By GregMegTurner |

Really nice experience for our family that includes children ages 10-6. Not tons of activities for kids per se (just a few PC based flight simulators) but tons of aircraft and informational displays. Always love to see the amazing SR-71!

By craig g |

Found out a great deal about the planes that line the 215 freeway at Van Buren. I highly recommend the trip!

By fortunehunter667 |

The 3 teenage boys that I took there had a great time. They loved trying on the different uniforms and watching the airplanes practice touch and go's at the base.

By rayd126 |

Great museum lots of information on the b-24 as well as lots of world war II airplanes excellent p-38 exhibit beautiful display of the SR-71 lots of planes to see easy access off freeway

By W1144MZmelissat |

My husband loves airplanes and history. I went along to keep him company, but was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it myself. We spent the first hour exploring the interactive and informative exhibits inside. The volunteers working that day were so friendly and offered some very interesting tidbits about the museum. After enjoying the inside, we decided to take part in the guided tram tour of the outdoor airplanes. Wow! Our tour guide was such a great story teller! We really enjoyed ourselves. This place is a true treasure.

My 2 year old son gets so excited with the sight of airplanes. We had a great time being up close where my son could enjoy them.

My boyfriend loves jets and this was fun for him to see especially when he lives 5,000 miles away from here.

I took three grandchildren (K, 1st and 2nd) to the March Field Air Museum with fear and trepidation. Wrong! They LOVED it and asked to return again the next day! They had plenty of hands on experiences and dressing up in military uniforms was a HUGE hit! We will make this an annual visit and foster their new interest in aviation. I especially appreciated that the gift shop was not overpriced (even used books!), the children also had an opportunity to board a real plane, the displays of children's artwork and the staff was super friendly. I would LOVE to see the addition of a picnic area that is air conditioned or with fans or at least shaded because it can get HOT in California--how about the barracks building?

By Lynda F |

Huge hangers filled with planes of all types. Good history and exhibits throughout the museum. More exhibits outdoors.

By greenberetateam |

Great plane museum to either walk around or take a golf cart tour. Well informed people and good static displays inside too. A very stirring statue of Jimmy Doolittle outside.

By Corry C |

A great museum if you are into aviation history. Great exhibits inside and a lot of planes in the lot.

By sjt817 |

If you have someone in the military this is a nice place to visit and take them. Great for kids as well. Only wish the planes on display were in a hanger. (weather beaten)

By Ren Hoek |

My daughter took me here on Father's Day for a look around, as I used to fly back in the 80's.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful, and I really liked the way you could just get around at your own pace, looking at the detail of real aircraft, not just mock ups. This place also caters for weddings as it turns out; another feature, plus it has a section on war memorabilia from around the world.

Definitely worth stopping by as there is no where else quite like it.

This is a fantastic display of vintage aircraft not seen vary often except in the movies.you get to walk amung some of the greatest fighters/bombers of all time the s r 71 aircraft is my favorate. plan on spending hours there becouse there is so much to see. they have a great solviner shop also that helps suport the museum.some of the volenters are old vets that are happy to tell there stories. This is on march field right on the 215 freeway,by the way this field was the place Bob Hope had his first u s o show. Enjoy and pay respect to are history. Edwardo

I really enjoy going to air museums and I expected this to be one of the best. They have a gorgeous new plaza in the entrance, but the planes are in poor shape and they did not have a great selection. The SR-71 Blackbird is cool to see, but I've been to Hill AFB in Utah and that exhibit is much better. It is absolutely worth going to, but is not as good as some others i have been to. Where is the P-38? Also, maybe it struck me that the memorials and the honoria were of higher quality than the planes themselves, so maybe that rubs me a little bit.

By food-allround |

Already visited the 2 Smithsonians in DC, the one in Dover AFB and SS Intrepid in NYC. Still found this one amazing, many planes met for the first time. Two hangars and a large collection outdoors. Wander freely around a B52 and F15 and F14 and much more. Make it one of the highlights of the day while in the area.

By Steven |

Wow. This was great. Michael Duke really makes this tour special, educational, and entertaining. Would definitely recommend this museum. Saw this location on our way to the Thomas Train event at the Railroad Museum. Great day in the area.

By anan92506 |

The first time I came to this place has been over 12 years ago. And just was here this April for a work luncheon and still love this place full of history with so many different planes a not to small moseum, planes you are allowed to get in and see the inside of them and you are also allowed to have kids and adults parties here as well.

By diane1024 |

If you are interested in planes, this is the place to visit. Modest fee to enter. This place is jam packed with airplanes, memorabilia, uniforms and has a lot of information available. It even has a section showing actors who have been in the service. Even if you are not that interested in planes there is plenty to look at. The Vietnam era section was really cool. Be mindful of the weather because many of the exhibits are outside.

By Lance M |

Have visited here before many years ago, and they have expanded their displays in a nice way. Everything is now spread out and the displays inside are very neat and informative with the space at least doubling. Outdoor displays are all labeled, and if you're lucky, you might see active duty folks doing touch and goes across the field. Nice couple hour visit.
