More than just a zoo.

By Jack L |

This is a small/medium zoo. A tour will only be about one hour to hour & half. Many unknown or rare species. Each cage will have a rating such as rare or endangered. Many of the animals were still or very inactive. Possibly it was the time of day. Being able to pet the billy goats was probably my most enjoyable moment.

A few of the animals are, sunbears, reindeer, sea lions, river ottors, red pandas, Galapagos tortoise, bald eagles and kangaroos. The children especially enjoyed feeding of the sea lions and river otters. Some of the indoor/outdoor exhibits are Tropical American RainForest, ZooLab, Wallyaby WalkAbout & Animals of Asia.

The zoo is located off Morris Avenue, however at the present time, Morris closed due to construction. The only entrance is off West Wood Street. The zoo is handicapped accessible. with aimited number of strollers & wheelchairs at the zoo's gift shop. No idea if any cost is involved.

Nearby is the Miller Park Recreation Park. (The Park is off West Wood Street.) Many picnic tablers. Also is a large memorial to all Civil War Illinois soldiers who fell in battle. In the parkis a WW1 French tank and artillery pieces from Ww1 & WW11. For the children is Fun Park. Here are swings, slides and water woks. Even in the rain, several children were having a good time. Carousal rides are available, which tokens can be puschased at the admission window.

The zoo itself is impressive. add the recreation ,fgun & memoeial parks, a good time will be had by all. The kids with the zoo & fun park, Mom with the picnic tables & Dad with the artillery pieces, tank and memorical.

A large parking lot serves the zoo & all surrounding parks. Parking is free.

Admission: Adults-13-59-$ 5.95.
Seniors-60 & up-$3.95.
Youth-3-12- $3.95.
Children under 2-Free.

Hours: Sunday-Saturday-9:30-4:30.

I would recommend a visit.

Zoo-park combo keeps kids and adults entertained

By KathyHouser |

It's a zoo, it's a park, it's an outdoor theatre, and more. Miller park has always been one of our family's summer favorites! Lots to do all season long! Close to Eastland and College Hill Malls, and the ISU campus, David Davidson Mansion, Children's Discovery Museum, Chucky Cheese, shopping and live entertainment. Minutes away from Clinton Lake, Dawson Lake , Lake Bloomington, and Evergreen Lake. All of this makes Miller Park the perfect summer activity for kids and adults alike. The Miller park staff are friendly and helpful. The zoo is small enough that you can see everything in a couple hours and you won't get worn out walking. All the exhibits are close together . This is the perfect zoo to take small children to. And the price is right! You can afford to go again and again !!!

Miller Park Zoo

By rhaltn56 |

Small but semi-maintained park, has a lot to see and do, if children are traveling with you. It is an easy walk and has inside and outside exhibits. It is situated in a very nice park area.Seen several student groups being entertained by zoo staff and their lectures. It is well worth the price of admission, I and the people that I was with enjoyed it and you go at your own pace. I recommend it for all ages

Small town zoo

By sjschneider |

Miller Park Zoo is fine for younger children. But if you’re comparing it to Lincoln Park or Brookfield Zoo - you’ll be sorely disappointed. It’s kept up good but not in the best part of town.

Small zoo but perfect for toddlers!

By Donna T |

Miller Park is a great place to spend many hours with family. They have pleasant picnic areas to accommodate families (there are no cafes on the premises), and plenty of green space for fun and games. There are 2 separate playgrounds and a water play area, all of which our toddler loved. The zoo, although small, does have decent attractions such as a tiger, leopard, sun bear and seals, all of which we saw outside. The small size of the zoo is great for young children, as there is enough for kids to see and do - he especially loved the carousel, petting zoo, seal feeding time and the indoor play area. At $5.95 for adults and free for kids under 3, it is a great value, too.

Great small zoo, perfect for families with small children

By James P |

If you have toddlers or small ones who want to run off on their own, bring them to Miller Park Zoo, one of the oldest small-town zoos in the country. The grounds are neatly manicured, the paths are wide and you can see your little ones running from afar, and there are some surprising exhibits here--with many of the animals endangered. One highlight is the rainforest, with birds that fly and walk all around. The learning center is great too for kids. My college students sometimes come here to relax and find inspiration for their writing, and you'll see a lot of amateur photographers here. The otters are fun to watch, and the wallaby walkabout is great insomuch as you walk right through their exhibit, with just a corral fence keeping you from getting to them.

By Emily S |

They have a pretty good zoo going on for the area. Enough to look at for about a half a day. They have a pretty decent variety of animals.

A great day!

By Amanda J |

I took my family here while we were down for Siblings weekend at ISU. I used to come here while I was in college with friends and it was such a nice break from college life. The zoo is on the smaller side, but my husband, college freshman and HS sophomore thought it was great. It was even better than I remember. The lake, the Southern Pacific caboose, nickel plate rail road locomotive and war cannons were interesting to my family. It was a great day.

Nice small town zoo

By Jon S |

Really a nice, well kept zoo. Butterfly enclosure. good variety of animals and a kid favorite. new waterpark is free outside zoo and in Miller Park. Great for picnic spot and combine with zoo visit.

Very nice zoo

By TrytoFocus |

Great place to bring the kids. Very inexpensive, small zoo that can be completed covered in a few hours. Plus you can do things like bring your own food and sit in the park and then go to the zoo. Something you could never pull off at Brookfield (they make you buy their over-priced food).

flamingo heaven

By surenaf2017 |

My great niece has a thing for flamingos but had never actually seen a real one. It was a dream come true for her.
We bought about everything you had in the gift shop that was a flamingo

Small, but worth the visit

By anna_chronistic |

This is a small zoo, but great for a family visit. Loved the walk-through area -- a kangaroo bounced right across the path (and scared the bejeebers out of my niece. It was hilarious, but I'm a mean aunt). Sometimes the animals were hard to spot -- time of day likely affects the activity level of the animals. The zookeeper's demonstration and feeding of the sea otters and sea lion were really cool. The kids and adults all loved it.

I do wish the petting zoo area had a hand-washing station, instead of just anti-bacterial goo. Anti-bacterialized goat spit is still goat spit.

Great local Zoo

By foodie1232013 |

A bit small however we loved it. We plan on going back once the weather gets warmer. It has exhibits that are close so can see the animals much closer. The last time I went they had activities for my daughter to do and she really enjoyed it.

Fun day at the zoo!

By d s |

For a small town zoo, this place has so much to offer! A learning center, classes, many different theme days during the year. I love the new exhibit of the flamingos. The petting zoo and the giant turtles are also fascinating to the kids!

A hidden gem

By Helen A |

This little zoo is a hidden gem in town. It features lots of animals and small crowds, so you can really get up close. The wallaby encounter area is awesome & kids love it. The carousel is precious as well. We had fun looking for the wolf in the wolf encounter & saying hello to the red panda before measuring our "wingspan" and taking in the butterfly encounter. Overall a great afternoon!

Very Nice Small Zoo

By Loeweb821 |

This zoo is the perfect size for 2-7 year olds. Highlights were the big cats house with 6 snow leopards, the wolf exhibit with 3 wolf pups, the playful river otters, a bird house with scavenger hunt, and an indoor exhibit with snakes, frogs, and others. We had to leave, but it looked like 3pm and later is a good time with feedings for some of the larger animals. Large splash pad and playground outside make for a very enjoyable afternoon.

Very Nice

By Ron B |

Very Clean and good activities for all Children, Grandchildren, and Adults. It is a good family atmosphere, near facilities such as stores, gas stations, etc.

Small zoo but worth seeing

By Gregory W |

We spent a couple of hours walking the grounds. The animals seem to be well cared for and the staff informative. This is not a large zoo so a couple of hours is all you need.

nice little zoo

By Kathy R |

It dosen't take long to stroll this zoo but it is a nice experience. You can get fairly close to the animals and it is very relaxing there. No big crowds like the big city zoos.

Little zoo doing BIG things!

By DawnDawnDawn |

Such a nice zoo - easy to get around and not so big that you get lost. The greatest thing about this zoo is the number of animals that they have in the Species Survival Plan. See animals you probably have never seen - and probably won't see outside of Miller Park Zoo. Pretty impressive!

A community fixture

By Susan T |

Even though MPZ is small they take great care in how the zoo is run. The tropical bird exhibit can't be missed. In the summer there are Junior zookeepers that have gone through a lot of classes to help educate visitors about the animals and the zoo itself. For very young children there is a nice carousel (costs a little extra).

Wonderful Small Zoo

By Ryansmom |

Took our 3 year old twins....lots of small exihibits, perfect for them. Did the whole zoo in an hour and they loved it.

Awesome

By Mother of 4 |

What a beautiful and fun zoo to explore. We will definitely rerun to visit this summer! Well maintained and clean.

Great little Zoo

By Christel D |

My family of young adults, my husband and myself had a great few hours walking through the Zoo. It is small but they have a good variety of animals and many zoo keeper talks with the visitors. In the few hours we were there, we listened to a zookeeper talk and demonstration at the sea otter cage and the tortoise cage. There are a couple animal houses to go through. We had a very nice family time!!! It was very clean and the workers were very friendly!!!

Very informative and perfect in size for kids under 10

By TravlnFam6981 |

This is our to go place in the summer. We visit this zoo every year since the kids were little. Love the small walk with the young ones. They never want to leave. We have gone to several other larger big city zoos and even the big kids complain of their feet hurting. NOT the case here. Also, outside the zoo is a water splash pad and min-golf which makes it a perfect all day family affair. And if you feel like having a cookout, the park also has grills and picnic tables.
The price of the entrance is minimal and the is NO parking fees !

By Sara N |

My dad took me and my husband here for my birthday. We love wolves and they have a nice wolf exhibit. All animals in the zoo were active. They had handlers out b that day letting people touch and even hold some of the more exotic animals. Yes it is a smaller zoo but for a smaller zoo they have a wide variety of animals. It is very nicely landscaped. It was a great day getaway. We got some awesome pictures. Worth going to see.

Nice outing for children

By ishootpar |

Took our grandchildren here for a afternoon outing. After entering, we saw various birds, reptiles and other animals which the kids loved. There were several Junior Zookeepers around who answered questions posed to them. One even had a video on his phone that he showed our kids where the iquana was being fed. They loved it! They don't have a large number of large animals, but do have a good variety of smaller animals.
It took us a little over an hour to go thru the entire area, so it kept their interest on the animals and their habitats.

Small Zoo yet many animals to enjoy

By JoBeth G |

Small zoo yet very many different animals to enjoy. From reindeer to Longhorns to Tigers and Snow Leopards. This zoo delivers on the variety of animals. There's a red panda, Sun Bear, Wallaby and a beautiful Cockatoo. Many more but enjoyed walking through the zoo since it has been years since I have last visited.

Great Zoo

By RbnH00d |

This a great smaller zoo. I would definitely suggest to people with smaller children. Something to do and enjoy. Not a lot of walking and great up close with the animals.

Lovely

By ROSIE S |

We went a few years ago. We absolutely loved it. It's very small. The cages are made so you can actually see the animals. We live close to St Louis zoo. St Louis zoo is huge. It's kept very nice. The enclosures are so big you can hardly find the animals. I would rather go here and see them. Very clean. We will go back for sure.

By kathmcg |

Ive been to this zoo a few times. Yes it is small and for those of us who live near larger zoos it may seem like the cages are small but Ive been told that most of their animals are there for health reasons or unwanted at other zoos. It is a unique experience. The staff is friendly and I have never noticed poor treatment of the animals. I live 5 minutes from brookfield zoo but the drive to Miller is worth it.

Miller Park Zoo

By marann7 |

This is a very nice zoo. It is small but has a nice variety of animals. There aren't any elephants or a giraffe, but there are snow leopards, a sun bear, eagles, wolves, a nice rainforest exhibit, and a lots of smaller animals. The Australian area is nice too. My grandchildren are six and seven and they love the place. We have gone there since they have been in a stroller.

wonderful small zoo

By illinoistraveler2016 |

Love this place. Surprisingly big and varied collection for such a small town. Today's highlights were the Sumatran tiger, playing with a dangling toy, and 3 snow leopard cubs (born in May?). We saw the seals and otters being fed. The seals cooperated sometimes and other times tried to snatch others' fish instead of laboring through their tricks.

Clean, quaint zoo

By Erica K |

Went here as a quick trip with my 4 year old. Was very pleasant and friendly zoo to walk- there were zookeepers walking around that would tell us more about the animals we were by. We went late in the afternoon and not many other people there- this also let us watch them feed the bear, tiger and seals. My daughter loved the walk through rain forest the best!
I would suggest a swim suit and towel or extra set of clothes in summer because outside the zoo is a large splash pad and playground.

Animals not treated right

By Jennie B |

While the zoo is a fun place to stop by and kill a couple of hours, I don't think the animals are treated right. Large animals such as a tiger and a bear are kept alone in tiny cement cells. They look like they are in poor health and should not be kept in such enclosures.

Average zoo, small size good for young children

By David V |

Nothing terribly special about Miller Park Zoo, it is a small zoo located in the not-so-upscale south end of Bloomington. Be sure to lock your car and valuables up so that you don't risk theft or vandalism from the locals in the area. The small size of the zoo is good for young children, it only takes a few hours at most to walk the entire zoo at a leisurely pace.

Small zoo with BIG learning opportunities

By Brooke M |

I may be biased because I am a local, but I love our zoo. There are so many learning opportunities packed here. There is a self guided rainforest room, and always a ton of volunteers and staff around to help answer questions and engage the kiddos. We go often and still spend over 2 hours.

You cannot miss the river otters! My son is now 9 and those have been his favorite since he was 3!

A Gem that Bloomington / Normal is lucky to have!

By TerrySBMIFLL |

I go to the zoo several times a year. Most people do not realize how nice of a zoo we have here in blono. Highly encourage you to visit and see for yourself. I am a photographer and have taken dozens of excellent images at our zoo.

Excellent playground with water feature.

By WidthAdventures |

Again have to give 5 stars to free play areas, especially when the incorporate a playground and a water feature! These were fabulous while on a road trip across the country with 3 kids. Clean bathrooms to change in. Big parking lot. Picnic tables and lots of benches here.
We spent a good 90 minutes here tiring the kids out. The zoo wasn't open and there were maybe 4 or 5 other families at this huge playground.

Pretty Little Zoo!

By countrytreasures |

This zoo is big on value! It is a small but nicr & clean. The exhibits are well maintained and the animals look healthy. There is good stroller & wheelchair access. Lots of shade & an area with picnic tables if you want to bring a picnic lunch into the park. Next door is a A+++ playground for the kids yo run off energy. It takes about 2 hours to see all the exhibits.Loved it!

Third Easter visit

By Bingo47 |

For the past three years our grown children and their families have met us at Miller Park Zoo. We also hide eggs for the three little ones and last year we brought picnic lunch. Disapointed today that carousel was not open. Its a beautiful park, not sure the zoo is worth the prices charged for admission.

Fun family activity

By Boilermaker821 |

The zoo is limited in size but well maintained and good for a family outing. Miller Park also has a shallow water park, playground equipment, and picnic areas. All are clean and well maintained.

So small...such tiny habitats

By Debora Ellen B |

I am conflicted with this zoo. Is it enough it to provide this community with an opportunity to see these beautiful animals even though their habitats are so restrictive? Or, is the zoo sacrificing the well-being of the animals in order to offer its zoo goers opportunities they may not otherwise have? Not sure of the answer here...don't see the animals engaged..

nice zoo

By Scott D |

the zoo was good but not like the zoo in Chicago or Fort Wayne, IN. it was small zoo they have here.

Miller Park Zoo

By d_freehill |

A nice medium-sized zoo located in a spacious public park with lots
of free parking, picnic tables, playground area, and shaded areas.

Zoo Celebrating 125th!

By Deanna_F5 |

Miller Park Zoo is celebrating its 125th birthday in 2016. For a small zoo, that's impressive as are some of its animal exhibits. A new flamingo exhibit just opened and the zoo hosts an impressive number of endangered snow leopards -- 7! Mom gave birth to twins last year and triplets in May of 2016. Some will be moved to other zoos this year so go visit soon. There is also a spray park right across from the zoo…fun for kids.

great local zoo

By lori p |

This is a very nice zoo given the size of the community. Its located in a nice park with playground equipment, snack shop, and makes a nice family outing

By Em W |

The zoo is great value for money, we spent ages walking around, we saw the bear and leopard getting fed, it was a very pleasant afternoon.

A cute little zoo!

By MamaMJ |

This is a very nice little zoo. It is small but that is kind of the charm with this place. I always visit when in town. It is a nice place for kids as the bigger zoos can become overwhelming and demand a lot of walking as they are spread out on big areas. This is small with enough animals to be fun and interesting but not exhausting or overwhelming.

Worth a visit

By N Kraft |

A small zoo but it is very clean and has a good variety of animal exhibits. It is very cheap and a good way to kill an hour or so on a nice day. My fiancé and I come here a couple of times a year.

Fun Times!

By Jennifer P |

There was plenty to keep a young kid interested! Feeding the birds, experiencing hurricane force winds, holding a hissing cockroach, riding the carousel...lots to see and do!

fun day!

By misscali7 |

so much more than i expected! lots of different animals and interactive exhibits. plus, all of the staff & volunteers are so nice!

A FUN AFTERNOON

By Curt N |

The Miller Park Zoo is a relatively small facility with lots of interesting exhibits. It can be done in a couple of hours and then you can take the kids to play at the park playground or have a picnic under one of the large shade trees. Kids will love it and it is normally not too crowded.

Small but lovely

By Cublove |

We have a family season pass to the zoo, which we use frequently. On a side note, we are also locals, and live just minutes away. If I was visiting Central Illinois, this may not be an attraction worth stopping for unless I just had some extra time to spend. It's a very well kept zoo, but VERY small. The layout is easy to navigate and the habitats very fitting. If you have a reciprocal pass from other zoos, then by all means, use it! My kids love it and love the laid back atmosphere. We often take our lunch along and eat right inside at the picnic tables. If you have small children, you'll have no problems with strollers, as it's all on one level. My double jogger even fits in all of the areas. The bathrooms are clean and placed nicely at each corner of the zoo. If you do decide to go, seeing the seal show is worth the wait. They do a nice job with such a small space. Outside the zoo (across the walkway) is a spray park and playground as well. If coming from out of town, I highly recommend a towel and change of clothes just in case your kiddos get in the water at the spray park. It's great for hot summer days. A mini-golf course and paddle boats are also across the walk. The only food are the snacks in the vending machines. Peoria is a much larger and more updated zoo (if you're deciding between the two).

Nice smaller sized zoo

By ampress727 |

Wasn't expecting much from this zoo considering it is in the middle of a suburb, but I was pleasantly surprised. There are lots of interesting animals like the wolf exhibit, the wallaby exhibit, and the otter exhibit. You can watch the feeders feed the snow leopards and tiger, as well as the sea lions and otters. It is reasonably priced with $8 for an adult ticket. Small gift shop has lots of cute souvenirs, also reasonably priced. Would take about 2-3 hours to see the whole zoo.

Nice, small zoo

By LissaJ41 |

We spent about 90 minutes visiting the zoo. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon. Since this is a small zoo, we were able to take our time and watch / find animals. I liked the signage that says whether the animals are common, rate, endangered, etc. Despite the heat, the animals were pretty active and enjoyable to watch.

talk to the animals

By Monte H |

My husband and I spent a delightful, relaxing morning visiting the Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois, recently. It is without a doubt one of the best, cleanest, friendliest zoos we have ever visited, and we have been through a great many. The only distraction we had was in trying to find the place! Our Mapquest directions were right on, but the street was closed, making us take a wide detour around the entire park, golf course, etc. to the other side where we asked the nicest kid on a bike just where we might find the zoo! He gave us excellent directions and we were on our way to a great morning. The animals were being cleaned and fed while we were there, which was great since the elusive ones were out for food and therefore accidentaly on exhibit. All the keepers and volunteers, of which there were many, were so extremely helpful we could see why the animals were happy.

Underwhelming

By bre1227 |

Was looking for something to do, so we decided to try a new zoo. I wasn't expecting it to be big, I knew it was a smaller zoo, but even smaller zoo's can be lively and fun. This zoo was just underwhelming and seemed run down. Lots of dirty animal enclosures, or enclosures where the grass and shrubs were out of control. Enclosures seemed small, and animals didn't appear happy. The tiger seemed scared, and a sun bear was pacing back and forth and appeared distressed. I am not an annual expert, but this is my opinion from what I saw. My kids loved the petting zoo, and feeding the birds. It could be a fun little trip, if the zoo was in better condition & enclosures were bigger. The rainforest area was cool. And the spray park & playground outside were neat and fun!

By K K |

We used to bring our children here when they were younger. Their was an area they could pet farm animals and plenty to see.

Nice!!

By 678irist |

Nice, Clean Park!! Beautiful Scenery. My kids enjoyed feeding the ducks. They have paddle boats for rent but they were closed on that Sunday evening.

nice way to spend some time

By Ilene S |

I had a couple of hours to kill and was pleasantly surprised with my visit here. Coming from Chicago, I'm used to big zoos. This one can be done in a couple of hours.

Very nice, small zoo

By Kerr767 |

Miller Park Zoo is very small. It will only take you about 1-2 hours max. to see everything. However, the exhibits are very well done, and there is a surprisingly range of animals here. Perhaps the best things to see is the snow leopard exhibit (two adults, two cubs). It isn't very crowded on weekdays so it's a nice and affordable way to spend a few hours in the afternoon.

Local and fun

By Tiffany A |

its totally worth the 5 bucks to get in. There is usually something interesting that happens when i go.

Day at the park

By Mary H |

Great for a family or just yourself . Interesting display of animals and informative staff if you have questions. See the animals and either before or after to enjoy in the park with a picnic and or play on the playground. During good weather might consider renting a paddle boat. Not sure if they still allow fishing, but there is a stream to enjoy.

It is pretty neat, but really could use updates.

By harlos5 |

This is a small zoo, but it is neat. They definitely could use funding for updates, and quality of life improvements for animals. The people that work there seem to go above and beyond!

Miller Park Zoo Experience

By wicked849 |

The perfect place to take the kids. They will enjoy seeing the animals and learning new things about them. Follow this up with a great picnic lunch and then let the kids enjoy the water fountain park and playground.

A morning out!

By Debbie A |

We have a 2 1/2 year old grandson who loves to be outside. Bloomington offers the perfect zoo for toddlers. We have purchased the Grandparent pass so we can go to the zoo as many times as we want with one or all of our grandchildren. The concrete pathways allow toddlers to run or be transported in their strollers. There are a wide variety of animals to view. We usually spend about an hour and a half and finish the visit with their Carousel ride.
We pack a lunch and eat outside the zoo at the picnic tables near the splash park or sitting on a blanket next to the steam engine and caboose that have retired there. Afterwards, it is straight home for nap time. Perfect outing for everybody!

Nice zoo to visit for a good price

By couponsavgirl |

I have been going to this zoo since I was a little kid and I still love it! It is small but it has a lot to offer! There is always special events going on for kids and the zoo is always adding new animals to their exhibits. I think this place could use a little makeover since it has looked the same for years now. The new playground and the little waterpark is great for kids! Wish the zoo had that when I was younger!

Good Outdoor Activity

By LoveBeaches1017 |

This was a nice outdoor activity during COVID. It's a small zoo, but our grandchildren enjoyed it, and we did, too. The carousel was not running because of COVID restrictions. They had several inflatable Halloween decorations, but they were not inflated. We don't know if that was because it was windy the day we visited or if they don't inflate them until evening. It's pricey for such a small zoo - $6.95 for adults and $4.95 for youth ages 3-12. There is a nice playground outside the zoo.

Great Zoo

By Kayla H |

This is a nice zoo. A bit on the small side but my niece loved it. The fact it had wheelchairs to use was a big plus for us because I have a hard time walking long distances. The zoo is clean and well maintained and the animals seem very happy. We enjoyed feeding time, that was fun.

Nice for the price

By Shari28 |

We went to Miller Park Zoo and enjoyed it very much. It is very small but nice. We only spent about an hour there but we have a one year old so didn't stay and play on playground or splash pad. If he was older we would have packed a picnic lunch and stayed longer. Free parking also. Will go back next year when visiting Bloomington.

Needs more space.

By jlilyrose |

Went with my son a few years ago. The zoo is in a very small area. So small, it makes you feel uncomfortable.

Loved it! Went at the end of the day. Had it all to ourselves

By Janie C |

The last entry is at 4:30 but you can stay inside until 5. We showed up around 3:45 and felt like it was our own private zoo.

Small zoo, small enclosures but the animals were small too and looked ok, not miserable.

You can get really close and the fencing is not very tall so you really feel like you are right there.

Loved the red panda, river otters, wallaby family, wolves, tiger. The goats were hilarious, they would not stop with their "baaas". Kids were going crazy over this.

Highly recommend for a quick stop.

Okay

By George02-1973 |

The kids had fun and we saw some animals. Of course, does not compared to "big city" zoos.

Small But Nice

By kgilbert78 |

This is not a large zoo, but it is nice. They feature smaller species for the most part. There's a small cafe that was decent and not expensive. I liked the red panda exhibit and the otters. Worth a short detour if you are traveling up to Wisconsin Dells

Miller Park Zoo

By Douglas D |

Small zoo that is easy for little kids to walk. Animals range from Tiger to hissing cockroaches. The entire zoo is a couple of city blocks long. The bird sanctuary is pretty neat.

Great Zoo!!

By Hilary S |

My boyfriend and I enjoy spending time in zoos near and far. Miller Park Zoo is a small but delightful place to visit. Staff is knowledgable and friendly! Offers a very laid back atmosphere. Offers some unique things other zoos don't, seal and otter feedings and a walk through wallaby/wallaroos exhibit! This zoo has rare and endangered species, some of which you don't see at other zoos. Goats for petting are sweet and always ready to be brushed and fed! The size of this zoo only requires about 1 1/2 hrs of your day to get completely through!! Immediately outside zoo you can't find a splash pad and park for the kids! Parking is close and free. A must visit!!

Small and delightful

By AsherP0403 |

Looking for a small zoo that's perfect for the entire family, and especially for little ones who want to walk? Miller Park Zoo is the place! From the pink flamingos to the sun bear, your family can stroll through this small zoo in a couple of hours. Perfect for toddlers who want to explore and experience the zoo without large crowds. Clean zoo with a friendly staff and reasonable admission. Truly a gem!

Sad place

By A F |

We have been to this zoo before and it keeps getting sadder. It's very small and not well-maintained. Many of the exhibits are empty. The feed machines for the farm animals was empty and the animal enclosures look poorly maintained. The snow leopard and tiger do not have enough space and they pace incessantly. Give these beautiful animals to someone who will give them a better life.

Fun for anyone

By tiburontranquilo |

If you haven't been in a while, go! The zoo improves every year. Educational, fun, tons of animals and lots of information.
Kids and adults will have a great time. What a bargain!

Very good zoo

By Mary K |

We went to the zoo on the first day they had the snow leopard cubs out and it was fun. The cubs looked very curious. We have been to alot of zoos and this is one of the better ones we enjoyed our time here.

Great little zoo

By plevin2017 |

You have to enjoy this for what it is. There are three small zoos in central Illinois, Miller Park, Springfield and Peoria. Miller is the smallest. There are about 15 to 20 large animals. The rest are small. The zoo has some big cats, singing dogs and even a bear. A very nice little bird house.

Pack a lunch, go to the zoo and have a nice afternoon.

Nice zoo, but small

By dschick |

This is a nice zoo for a small town. The park it's located in isn't in the best part of town. The number of animals and size of the place is pretty limited compared to Peoria's zoo but the community should be proud.

A little zoo that offers a lot!

By thiery688 |

I'm fond of little zoos. Especially ones that offer something unusual. This zoo had two big draws for me. I loved the Wallaby Walkabout. I always look forward to walking though this area with the hopes that a little kangaroo will walk up to me and let me pet it. Nope, it's never happened but I can wish, can't I? This visit we did have one within inches of us as we entered the exhibit. It made me smile.

The other thing I have always enjoyed about this zoo is the wild bird area. How cool is it to sit and let the birds fly all around you? They even provide a handheld chart with the bird's names and pictures so you can identify what you are seeing.

This last visit I was quite disappointed with a few staff members that we came upon during our trip. The zoo was getting close to closing time and the staff manning the petting zoo were not very pleasant. I'm sure that they were ready to go home but the gates were open to the petting area as they yelled at us not to enter.

That poor customer service aside, the zoo is a nice little gem of the Bloomington/Normal area and well worth a stop.

Morning at the zoo

By ATCnDO |

Our family was driving through and on a whim decided to visit. This is an awesome small zoo. We easily covered it in two hours but could have taken more time. There were lots of keeper and animal interactions available. Several walk through exhibits where you felt up close to the animals but safe too. Staff was very friendly and open to answering questions.

Nice place

By mark f |

Went on a Sunday still not to busy everyone was polite. Very nice zoo for a town this size. Hopefully they can keep the price down for all to enjoy it's not a bad deal now.

Pathetic Zoo

By Goo |

The poorest excuse for a zoo I have seen in my whole life.. 1st grade School Field Trip. Cost $13.90 for 2 to get in, should have been $9.00 for chaperone's. Over half of their exhibits were empty... I would not recommend this zoo to anyone..

Miller Park Zoo

By trib_ona |

The Miller Park Zoo was an interesting side trip to Bloomington, IL. Although some of the attractions were closed or simply had no animals in them, the ones that were open contained a unique variety of common and endangered species. The admission is not costly and the gift shop is well stocked and reasonable. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

By sadie767 |

This is the perfect size zoo to take the kids to for an afternoon. So well maintained and the animals are lovely. Very Reasonably priced

By CandiSpfld |

Great day trip and so much to see. A large variety of animals and friendly staff to tell us about them. The park right outside the zoo was a fun add on too.

By christianpeercheck |

We just moved away from our comfort zone, as zoo's go we were used to the two in Chicago. Since Bloomington is now much closer than Chicago has ever been we decided to learn the area. We took our four year old and some friends with two kids of their own 6 and 12. All three kids enjoyed themselves aswell the parents.
Its small but if you take your time its still about two or three hours to enjoy it all. Animals are healthy and in clean habitats, easily viewed from all areas. Staff was wonderful and knowledgable, and outside of the zoo is a zero depth water play area aswell as a huge play area. We will be back a lot more in the next few years.

Have a great time

By BabyGoat56 |

Miller Park zoo is not very large but large enough for small people to have a very enjoyable time. There are picnic areas too.
We always have fun.

Excellent stewardship.

By paula t |

During my recent stop over in B-N, we drove through Miller Park. It was my request to do so as I had spent parts of my childhood and youth in B-N and visiting Miller Park.
I was so impressed!
Today's park is clean, well maintained, inviting. It exists today better than it had existed in my memories! Truly. And, I have very fond memories of the place.
I was so thrilled that the park is so lovely and so set up for families. I applaud the efforts to not only keep up the park, but to improve the park. There has been excellent stewardship at Miller Park.

Nice Small Zoo

This is a nice small zoo. Great place to take children.

More than what you would expect

By Ezcookin |

The zoo has a wonderful layout with a good variety of animals and reptiles. You'll see animals you are familiar with and some you are not. The zoo continues to grow and add more exhibits. It's worth your time to visit!

Wonderful place for families

By RogerBarb |

Love taking my grandkids there when they were younger. Have paddle boats that kids enjoy. You are also able to do fishing.

Day in the life...

I love this place. Very quaint. The animals are interesting to look at. I love the Wallaby yard! The carousel is fun for the kids,

Nice little zoo

By Cheryl C |

Miller Park Zoo has always been an in-town favorite destination. Well cared for animals in natural settings. Caring and helpful staff.

Small zoo

By TravelFun7 |

This zoo is a nice asset for the Bloomington community but it is quite small. There aren't a whole lot of exhibits, but it can be something different to do for families looking for something outdoors.

Lots of fun with a little boy in tow.

By Wayne T |

Have spent lots of time a this zoo and watched it continue to grow over the years. this time we came with a friends little 19 month old. He strode around the place like he owned it, pointing the animals, patting the goats and having a blast. He slept very soundly that night, don't think we had to use the stroller in the two hours he wandered around checking out everything, Good price and lots of fun and a good variety of animals for a small zoo.

For a small town zoo, it's not bad.

By Aaron T |

In central Illinois there are a handful of zoos and this one ranks right in the middle. You can spend a couple hours here, let the little ones pet some goats and see the nice primates on display. The cost is just right for what you get. Comparing the other nearby zoos I'd say that Peoria is nicer with more big animals/exhibits and Decatur is not as nice (but has a train).

Small Zoo with some interesting exhibits

By Bill P |

This is a small zoo but it has many interesting exhibits. It is very inexpensive and they have promotional and holiday events throughout the year.

Reindeer Poop

By Bill F |

Must visit the Zoo and Lake. Children will Love the Reindeer and Reindeer Poop Christmas Ornaments. On, my first visit, I ended up buying a dozen Reindeer Ornaments and sending them back home to Family and friends. They Loved them and wanted more.

every trip to our little zoo is fun and exciting. the kids love it and every year they baby zoo animals that born here.this year they 3 san cleminate goats born here.these goats are rare

Sad zoo

By ReviewerD15 |

This was honestly the saddest and most depressing zoo we have ever been to. The animal enclosures were small and didn't seem well kept. The zoo workers couldn't have cared less about their jobs or actually caring for the animals. We were really disappointed in our visit.

GREAT FOR A SMALL CITY

By Timothy G |

A great zoo in a great town. a family safe park and zoo. you can rent paddle boats on the small lake in the summer time. this park is nice year round.

Small, but great for little kids

By kristinam3533 |

We really enjoyed the zoo. It was not crowded, the kids loved the exhibits and being so close to the animals. It was clean and the park outside was great. Beautiful spot.

Nice small zoo

By Lynn B |

The animals seem well-cared for. Their pens aren't small, which made me happy. Fun to watch the otters and seals be fed. I went on a school field trip for the 6th graders. They all seemed to enjoy it. You can easily see the whole zoo in a couple of hours. Maybe if there had been fewer children, a bit more time would be spent with each type of exhibit. Even then, you can see everything in 3 hours. There is a terrific playground across from the zoo entrance and places to picnic. There was also a miniature golf course that looked very zen. Unfortunately for us, that doesn''t open until Memorial Day weekend. Pack a picnic and have a great day in a beautiful park!

Beautiful small town zoo

By John Z |

I had not been to Miller Park Zoo in 15 or 20 years even though my brother lives a block away from it and we decided to take our 5 year old grandson who was visiting from out of town. We were glad we did! I was wowed and amazed at how much the zoo has improved over the years. Many more animals and habitats than in the past and they are all first class layouts. The park is well organized with a good mix of domestic, native, and exotic foreign animals. There also is a nice kids park with water spouts just outside the zoo as well as a putt putt golf coarse for all ages. I was also very impressed with the manicured landscaping with beautiful flowers at every turn.

By Jackie G |

My kids & I always love to see the tiger & otter, especially. The eagle is neat to see up close. The cockroaches are huge & gross. The snow leopard was beautiful. The huge turtles are cool. And there's more. You can get within inches of most of the animals. It's really neat.

VERY NICE SMALL ZOO

By zoogoerBerwyn |

The Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, IL is a fine example of a very nice small zoo. Don't expect big exotic animals (like giraffes, lions, polar bears) or "wow" exhibits like the zoos in Chicago or St Louis. Instead this medium small zoo focuses on smaller animals in a modest, charming setting. Favorite animals include lemurs, otters, red pandas, red wolves and eagles. Highlights include a walk-through rainforest exhibit with free-flying birds and the Zoo Lab, an indoor building with a number of aquariums and terrariums filled with small insects, reptiles and mammals, including meerkats, plus a children's play area. The grounds are flat and the whole zoo is only about 10-15 acres, so the zoo makes an ideal and easy 1-2 hour excursion for moms with kids in strollers or grandparents with grandkids, even in winter. The zoo sits in a corner of Miller Park, which has a very large playground and modest mini-golf course right next to the zoo, plus the park contains ponds, hills and greenspace for strolling and picnicking. Buy a zoo membership which not only gives you unlimited free admission for a year but also gives you free or reduced admission to other zoos in central Illinois, including Peoria, Springfield and Decatur.

Miller Park Zoo

By oaktoncc |

Miller Park Zoo is small, but all the exhibits can be covered quickly. Grounds are nice for walking. Admission price is very reasonable. We made sure to stay for the seal and otter feeding.

Small nice zoo to spend a couple of hours

By Pam M |

If you've been to a big-city zoo, you'll want to keep your expectations in check since this is a small zoo. But even though it is smaller it was a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours. The admission fee is reasonable; I think maybe $6 or so per adult. There are some animals I did not think I would see at a smaller zoo such as the leopards or the tiger. There is a small petting zoo and a carousel (not open when I went) that would be entertaining for kids. It looks as if you can bring your own food in and that's a nice perk - not being forced to buy food on site if you're going to be spending more than a couple of hours there.

Perfect size zoo for a half day trip

By WTraveler82 |

Today was our first time at Miller Park Zoo. This zoo is the perfect size for a half day trip with kids. It’s not too big, but not small either. The zoo is clean and has a lot of animals. The playground and splash pad next store is great too. I highly recommend the zoo and playground area.

Fun small zoo

By Michelle S |

Great small zoo! We really enjoyed it. It says to give yourself 2 hours but an hour was fine. The lady that fed the sea otters did a great demo. The snow leopard was gorgeous. It was amazing to see how far and fast it leapt after a bird. Nice clean zoo.

We love this place! What a great place to spend an afternoon!

By Camarofan5 |

We love this place so much we bought a family pass! A warm Saturday afternoon, let's go see the animals! Can you think of a better way to unwind, relax, and de-stress? Try it some warm sunny afternoon!

Small zoo but entertaining

By Jacque A |

It may be small but there's plenty to do with kids. The butterfly garden is awesome. It's not a hard walk and plenty to do with the petting zoo and carousel and other opportunities.

New exhibit

By JanMeadows |

Great small zoo new flamingo exhibit is great. We love the merry go round. The Children's area. Playground has water feature for little ones. Petting zoo is cute.

Respectable local zoo

By Kirk N |

The zoo is not large, but it is nice. Good tree cover and uncomplicated pathways make it a comfortable and family friendly place. A mini golf course and water splash pad is next door as well as a large park with paddle boats. A lot of fun in a small area

Wished we had found it years ago.

By Rick B |

We've been traveling through Bloomington via 66/55/39 the past 40 years with kids and now with grandkids and never thought to stop at the zoo. What a treat! Great way to break up a road trip, you can see every exhibit in 1.5 hours. Clean. Friendly staff. Animals appear well cared for. Reasonable admission. Not too far off the highway. We had 6 and 4 and 2 year olds and all were content. Nice park and playground at the zoo entrance. No lunch served, only snacks from vending machines. Bring a few quarters for feed for goats, geese. DO NOT try to compare it to St Louis or Brookkield or Milwaukee zoos; it is what it says it is.

Hidden treasure in Bloomington-Normal

By Jonell K |

This family-friendly zoo has it all --bears, reindeer, a Sumatran tiger, snow leopards, gibbons, red wolves and now flamingos. It's compact size makes it great for small children. It's easy to traverse and there are surprises hidden at every turn. You can tell the animals are happy and well-cared for, and the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. And don't forget a ride on the charming carousel or a trip to the gift shop before you leave.

Incomplete

By Kristen B |

The zoo itself isn't that costly but you will find out why. The animals are hardly ever present in their exhibits or you can't see them. The park outside the zoo is more appealing than the actual zoo. You are better off skipping the zoo and heading to a library to read about animals or just take yourself to Chicago for a real zoo.

Perhaps good for kids up to the age of 5.. After that.. It's not worth the time.

By Timothy J |

A nice little small town Zoo. I have watched this little zoo grow up. I visited this zoo before I had kids and just recently visited with my teenage sons. And have visited during the many stages of them growing up.

Miller Park Zoo

By travelb4891 |

We took our 5 year old to this zoo and really liked it. It was something different than the zoos in Peoria & Coal Valley, I really don't think you can fairly compare it to something like a STL or Chicago zoo, and liked the layout of it. It is pretty small, but it really kept our daughter's (and our!) attention more so than other zoos. We took 1.5 hours but probably could have stayed a little longer if it wasn't closing time! I saw some reviews say construction, empty exhibits & not being able to see the animals, but must be all done now because no issues whatsoever with this. All animals were up close & easy to see. The parakeet was funny and putting on a show. The flamingos were really cool & different. The indoor areas were nice & not very stinky like some places. They have a rain forest indoor area that is really neat, with all different birds all over around you in the open. The wallaby had a baby in her pouch which was the cutest thing. The petting zoo was my daughter's favorite, it was really nice because you actually go in with the goats & volunteer staff are in there to monitor. The goats were sweet & not crazy at all, and the baby goats were a highlight. The playground outside that zoo at Miller Park was huge & AWESOME and spent some time there too. Putt putt in same park was fun too. Glad we went!

nice small zoo

By darla f |

seems to me they have alot of endangered animals there to see. enjoyed it alot, worth the money to go. took about an hour and a half. get up close to the animalls

clean family fun

By clotto58 |

This is a very well kept Zoo. The admission price is very reasonable. The staff is extremely nice. Git to see the seal pick the NFL games for the week.

Beautiful place, definitely coming back with the grands.

By Jennifer C |

Good place for all ages, not huge but plenty to see. You can really get great pictures because the animal compounds are closer to the fencing than I've seen at other zoos.

Small yet homey zoo

By Manny |

Miller park zoo is a small zoo, but you will get a more homey and friendly experience. We took our time and the zoo took us around 2 hours to enjoy. They had several handlers out, that would let you hold certain animals. We had the chance to hold a cockroach, millipede, and also got the chance to pet a snake. Overall it's something nice to do for the price.

Nice little zoo!

By Steve S |

This is an example of the old-time zoos some cities had before the big mega-zoos of today. I remembered this zoo from when I would visit my aunt when I was a kid in the 60's. We were in town overnight, had some extra time and I wasn't sure it was still there, I was happy to find it was not only still there, but was bigger than it was when I was a kid! Located in a nice park with a lake and lots of kid friendly equipment. Also has a Renault F-17 tank from WW I, something you don't see everyday!

Lots of small animals, reptiles and birds, wallabys, otters, large cats and apes, bald eagles, meerkats and more. Even has an old time carousel ride. Big enough to entertain you for a couple of hours at least, kids would like it. My wife and I enjoyed it very much. Good fun!

Awesome zoo for a small town

By Teri G |

I was so surprised to see 2 snow leopards in this Bloomington IL zoo! The zookeepers seem to be well informed and will answer questions and the animals and their habitats seem well cared for. Otters playing are fun to watch! The wolf habitat is unique I think.
My only complaint is that on July 4 they shoot off the fireworks near the zoo! This seems entirely cruel as the animals cant exactly get away from the loud booms of exploding fireworks. You think its loud? what if your hearing was 10x more sensitive. :(

Bloomington has a VERY nice park

By bentleyj1 |

Wow, I didn't know that Bloomington still has a city park. It's large, very well laid out with a lake, has picnic areas and children play areas, and even has an impressive zoo.

Excellent, interesting, fun, intimate

By Jake F |

This zoo is a robust, ever-changing, institution of which the community should be proud.

The rainforest exhibit is such a cool atmosphere, and while the bears and big cats are a great traditional attraction there are so many interesting potential favorites that supplement them - river otters, sea lions, the sloth, playful monkees, and the "wallabee walkabout" are popular favorites. Have never regretted spending a bit of time there and can't beat the value!

Great Zoo !

By Daniel M |

Our son being a student at ISU and after several trips down to Bloomington-Normal, IL we finally took the time to check out this local zoo. This small but very impressive zoo with the animals in quaint natural settings is very cool ! We enjoyed our visit very much and can't wait to return ! Great for families !

Fun with the Grandson.

By Dawn U |

This is a nice small zoo and not too crowd. My 4 year old grandson loves it. He really enjoys the turtles and the goats, but the best part is the otter that swims around and around.

Give the cats more room

By K B |

For this size of town, the zoo has quite the variety of animals. The rain forest is nice. I just wish they would do something huge for the big cats. Seems like they have the smallest area of all the animals at the zoo!

A very nice zoo

By Michael C |

I was pleasantly surprised by this zoo. This is a small town, but it is a great little zoo, with a nice variety of exhibits. The staff is great, and the layout of the zoo is quite nice. Plus, as an added bonus, it is in Miller Park, which is very nice. We got an extended family membership, and we will visit often.

By Barbara E |

It's been a long time since I have been there. But great zoo for the kids without being so large they loose interest.

Great animal access!

By turkeybound16 |

We took the family to this zoo at a relatively nice day in February and had a great time. There were hardly any visitors and the animals were very active, especially the river otters. There is a bird display that allows you to walk into the aviary and be surrounded by jungle sights and sounds. All of the small animal displays were well kept and allowed a closer, more personal look than a big zoo. Definitely worth a trip.

Excellent park and Zoo

By Huskyp |

I grew up going to this zoo. It has changed a lot since I was young but some of it is still the same. It's a great zoo for being a smaller one. The park is excellent and has a lot to do, miniature golf, playgrounds, ampitheater, ponds for fishing, swimming and paddle-boating.

lovely place

By kathy4117 |

Small and cute. The flamingos could be seen up close, they had no fear. cute sculptures. Well worth the price, not too much walking. Not alot of animals but a pleasant trip.

Lucky to have this in town of this size

By BeckyF |

Miller park Zoo is a nice place to spend an hour or two with your date or your kids. It's a small zoo in a small city, but given that, we are lucky to have this here. Take your time on your visit, chat with the zoo staff to learn more about the creatures you find here. Near the zoo is a nice playground, mini golf and splash pad. Bring your picnic and spend an afternoon at the park.

Small zoo and not crowded

By Etonian30 |

If you expect same as large zoo then you will be disappointed. Very small zoo and no huge exhibits. But, you will not be crowded and you won't break the bank. For two adults and two kids it was $23. Kids liked getting up and close for the otter and seal feeding. Staff was nice and knowledgeable. Large gift shop. We were traveling in RV and there was plenty of parking available. Easy access from 74 and 66. Also at entrance of zoo is large jungle gym with a splash park for warmer times. Not as good as Scoville Zoo in Decataur for comparison to similar size zoo.

Great local zoo

By KellyS327roadtrip |

I gave the Zoo 5 stars. Now I know you could easily argue it’s not huge, it’s actually quite small. However it’s a really nice half day visit and easy to navigate with strollers. There may not be everything that some adults would expect to find yet there are plenty of animals to see. I love supporting local venues such as this. Smaller crowds and fair ticket prices. My kids love it and smiled the whole time we were there. That’s always worth the price of admission anywhere you go. There’s also a very nice park where you can take the kids afterwards to burn any extra energy they have left. Once again don’t go here expecting a zoo you find in a major city. Go here to support a small local zoo, your kids will have a great time.

By Tai A |

It was a nice afternoon, not a large zoo but is surrounded by a large park could spend most of the day entertaining yourselves there.

Great quality zoo!

By fhv_58 |

The zoo isn't very big but it's perfect for a day trip with the family. They have many different types of animals including red panda's, meerkats, flamingos, a sun bear and snow leopards. It is very well maintained! They often have fun event days like trick or treating close to Halloween for the kids. Definitely recommend if you're in the Bloomington/Normal area!

Nice small Zoo

By John W |

Came down here on my day off of work not knowing what to expect. It's a smaller zoo but there are plenty of animals. Despite the cold rainy weather many of the outdoor animals were outside including the snow leopards, amur tiger, and red pandas. The seals were active as was the river otter. The indoor exhibits had plenty too I liked the Meerkats especially. They were building a flamingo exhibit when we visited so that will be nice. Small price of admission compared to the larger zoos. There's a playground for kids outside, miniature golf, a steam locomotive on display, and a lake nearby. Have to come back in the spring!!

A wonderful experience

By Gail D |

Tucked away in the city of Bloomington is this wonderful gem of a zoo. They have a large collection of unique animals may of which are endangered. To make the most of your visit go in the afternoon to see the feeding of the animals which starts at 3:00PM. Exhibits are are close enough to allow you to go from viewing one feeding to the next without rushing. For an additional cost of $2.50 a person you can feed the budgies. If you like birds and want to interact with them this is a must. You enter their enclosure and are given seed cups. The birds come and eat the seed right from your hand. The staff are all so friend, eager to share their knowledge and encourage questions. If you are traveling with someone who has mobility issues they have wheelchairs which you can use free of charge. This is a wonderful zoo. I case you're wondering it is NOT affiliated with Miller Brewing Company.

Fun day date!

By 49kaileyh |

For the area, I was really surprised that they had a zoo. It is nothing that I would compare to big city zoo's, but it would be a great activity for a family or even a date, because you can get through all of it in one to two hours. Either way, it was a lot of fun but go in with an open mind - after all, it's not Chicago or Indy!

Grandparents and parents approve

By Jacquie B |

This zoo is fantastic for parents and grandparents to take their young children and grandchildren. The young volunteers are obviously receiving a wonderful education and do a great job. We had a wonderful time.

Pretty Decent zoo for the size

By akshayp839 |

Nice place to hang out with family or kids. It's got paddle boats and playgrounds to keep kids involved. There was also fishing option available for adults.

Great place!!!

By olsonea |

Miller Park zoo is perfect for a day with the kids!! It's a smaller zoo but has plenty of well-cared for animals to keep the kids interested. There wasn't a big crowd and the kids could actually see the animals. The gift shop has a lot of smaller, inexpensive souvenirs for the kids and plenty of stuffed animals resembling the animals making their home at the zoo. Besides the zoo, there is also a small pond with geese and swans, mini golf and playground equipment! I highly recommend!!!

Great Little Zoo

By Sue A |

This is a small zoo in a mid-sized town. It is well maintained and a great attraction for a family. Wonderful park around the zoo too. Picnic tables and play equipment to enjoy. There is a petting zoo that younger children love. A carouosel to ride. You can reall get close enough to enjoy the animals. Reindeer, seals, sun bear, tiger, leopard, and red panda. A fairly new area you walk through has birds and other insects upclose. Overall a ver nice way to spend a few hours for a very reasonable price.

Nice small zoo

By sjr1974 |

Great little zoo. They don't have many traditional animals like lions tigers giraffes elephants. They do, however, have some different and endangered animals such as singing dogs and reindeer.

Will go again.

Late August Visit

By Jon N |

We hit a perfect day to visit the zoo with three year old. Landscaping, flowers thrive thruout the park. Exhibits of animals allow for up close viewing. Animals appear well cared for and their environment maintained. Nice scale zoo park....not too big and overwhelming.

Hot summer day

By BobbieMae |

Summer staff were busy keeping everything clean as hordes of preschoolers were visiting that day. Friendly staff, great gift shop with items priced from 50 cents to $25. The zoo participates in making sure endangered species survive. Pretty special little zoo complete with flamingoes and snow leopard kits.

Small but Mighty

By Scotty908 |

Miller Park Zoo is a great small zoo that will answer to the needs of small children to adults. It has a wonderful education center and most of the times handlers are available to let you see the animals up close. There are also playgrounds, picnic areas, and a water park on the premises that are free to the public. It is a wonderful homey time for family fun.

Miller Park Zoo - Just the right size.

By DJPlaZma |

The Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, IL is a zoo that is just the right size. Not to take anything away from larger zoos, but sometimes something a bit smaller is welcome. You can see just about everything in this zoo in a couple of hours, and the entry fee ($5.00 per person when we visited) is very reasonable. It’s a very laid back, non over-hyped zoological park that is fun and educational for the whole family. There is an intimacy to this zoo that you don’t see in zoos of a larger fare. The exhibits are large enough to accommodate the animals in their natural environment, but not so large that you can’t see from one end to the other. There are exhibits that are so close that you can almost touch the animals, and almost all of them are barrier-free. The area for the kangaroos is highly unique, as you’re actually *in *the area where the animals are free-roaming. The aviary exhibit is exceptionally fantastic, with birds from all four corners of the globe in a barrier-free environment that are not too shy to approach a human.

The zoo is in a residential setting in Bloomington and neighbors a park, which is perfect for a picnic lunch and a day spent with animals of every kind.

Go ahead. Take the day off, gather up the family, and visit the Miller park Zoo. It’s just the kind of relaxing day everyone needs once in a while.

Small but good!

By Brent A |

The Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois is one of the smallest zoos in the country. However it is fun and educational. My grand kids had a great time there. There are many small animal exhibits and also some large cats. They also enjoyed the seal lion show. In December they are famous for selling jewelry made from reindeer droppings. They make an unique Christmas gift.

Enjoyed our visit

By Valerie S |

Nice zoo enjoyed all the animals. Very cute gift shop and very friendly people working there. Enjoyed seeing the kangaroos and monkeys and the tiger!

Great Smaller Zoo.

By Lauren B |

I love visiting this Zoo whenever I am in town. I loved their Sloth (although I am not a big fan of the monkeys that have to be in the same cage as the sloth - one of the monkeys always beats up the sloth - don't ask what I want to do to that nasty monkey). The animals, overall, seem very happy. I liked the walk through wallaby area. Some of the wallabies will even get into the walkway, even though the staff tries to make them stop. (I love it when they do.) It's cheap to get in and worth it with younger kids. Or for animals lovers like me who need something to do in an extremely boring town.

Great little zoo

By Mandy S |

Great little zoo! Petting area is fun, merry go round is popular with the kids & there are always experts in the experiential areas with creatures to pet & learn about.

Wonderful place for all ages

By christine j |

This place is good for all ages. It is a small zoo and easy to get around. It fills a day full of interesting and fun things. Can't wait to visit again, just to walk around and look.

Great experience at a small town zoo

By Lynne E |

We took our 4 year old granddaughter to visit the zoo and she loved it. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the place was very clean. Older children might not find much to do there but for younger kids, it's great!

Miller Park

By Jerri L |

I was driving through and wanted to stretch my legs. I noticed the park (there is also a zoo with reasonable admission and mini golf in the location). There is a large water area which I walked around. There are restroom facilities as well. There are water activities weekends only the sign stated, but many individuals were fishing around the waters. Some people were picnicking over the lunch hour while others were simply walking. Nice public location for a walk or to relax.

Nice place to visit for a couple hours.

Smaller Zoo, but they do have a decent selection of animals to view. Typical selection of money's/apes, some tigers, various birds and so on. On the day we visited, a few of the exhibits were closed and/or the animals were not on display (too cool or enclosure updates occuring). If planning a day long expedition, you will be disappointed. But the grounds are well maintained and provides an enjoyable getaway for a couple of hours.

Small fun zoo.

By Julian W |

Good exhibits, some nice old buildings in good shape. A small city zoo that offers a lot for kids. Situated in Miller Park, which has a nice lake and lots of large old trees ideal for picnicking.

nice small zoo

By Betty U |

quite a nice variety of animals for a small zoo and well maintained. unfortunately most of them were napping and we did not see red wolf or pallas cat and barely any of the bear or tiger-they were hiding .the park is a nice place to have a little picnic after seeing the zoo.would probably try to go at feeding time 4pm or when they let them back in if we go back to see the animals we missed. I heard that these rare animals are at the end of their longevity

Nice to spend Time

I took my kids in Mar 2013, kids like it. Its not a big Zoo, but was very nice.
Like the Bear and Leapord. Bird section was nice too.

Nice small zoo

By swheads |

A nice small zoo located within a large park and recreation area in Bloomington. The animals are well cared for and the enclosures well maintained. They have a number of interesting animals including a red panda, snow leopard, tiger and sun bear, which is fairly remarkable for such a small zoo. The surrounding park is full of things for the kids to do including crazy golf, playgrounds and a small water park as well as a number of ponds where you can fish or rent a paddle boat. All round, a fun day out for the family.

Miller Park fanatic!

I loved that it was clean! I find that important when going to a place such as the zoo. Sufficient information about the animals also. Every a mini water park across from the zoo that is free!

Still great!

By Kerry L |

I reviewed this zoo a year ago and it has only gotten better. We got ourselves a family membership ($60) and it was totally worth it. Since last year, I believe they have gotten over 3 new animals and at least 3 babies were born. It really bothers me that some people say the animals aren't being treated well, they look sick, and the animal caretakers don't care. Every one that I have spoken with talks with such passion about the animals they care for. Some of the animals that seem 'sick' look that way because they are! The zoo is actually helping these animals though. The bear has arthritis. The eagles have broken wings. These animals have been rescued by the zoo. There are 2 new baby snow leopards that were bred here. They're endangered and are very difficult to breed in captivity so this was a big deal! The feedings are a great thing to watch. The seals are especially great. They do training exercises with them, making it a great 'show' especially for kids. I would definitely recommend a stop here if you're in town or a membership if you live here. There are some members only events. They have events for everyone (Star Wars day, Halloween, Reindeer tests around Christmas). For an extra fee, they have little classes for kids. These are wonderful!

Lovely Little Zoo

By librarychick |

Visited today with our daughter who is a freshman at Illinois State University. Weren't expecting much but were immediately impressed by the Wallaby Walkabout and continued to be impressed by all of the exhibits. Sure, not a ton of animals but some cool ones we don't see at too many other zoos such as singing dogs, reindeer, and the original Grumpy Cat aka Pallas' Cat. Tropical America Rainforest exhibit is exceptional-so many cool birds and monkeys. Stayed to watch them feed the seals and otters and that was a treat in itself. Wound up spending about 2 hours there. All of the animals were very active and the grounds and habitats were well kept. The rest of Miller Park is also beautiful and inviting-definitely worth a visit and I'm sure we'll be back while our daughter is living in the area.

Wow - many changes since I was a kid! Fun clean zoo and a great zoo for kids. Plenty to do and see! Parking can be limited depending upon the day and what else is going on at the park.

Family Fun

By AnnaNJohnny |

My husband and I, parents, and brothers family went to the zoo for Star Wars Day in May. Although the Star Wars Day was less than impressive we enjoyed a day at the zoo. This zoo was the perfect size for my nephew who is 2. He was able to walk for the majority of the time as was my dad who does not get around too well. There were plenty of places for him to sit to take a break when needed. My favorite animals were the otters, so cute! My only complaint would be that the petting zoo was not open.

Good place to take family and students for a field trip.

By Marge O |

Miller Park is a clean and wholesome place for family and field trips. Students brought sack lunches and gathered for their meals. It was easy to keep track of the children and there were no problems with bathroom facilities, etc.

The playground is excellent!

By car3champ2 |

We took my great nephew here to play for a few hours. He's 15 months old and about to start walking. Lots of different sized equipment for children of all ages to enjoy. The soft flooring is a nice plus for cleanliness and falls.

Very Nice Small Zoo

Miller Park Zoo is a very nice small zoo. Very clean, nice selection of animals that look to be well cared for, nice petting zoo.

Great little zoo in a beautiful community park. It's an older zoo, no comparison to major city competition, but a good way to spend day w/children and/or grandchildren!

Little Gem in the Heart of the Midwest

By SweetViolets23 |

Miller Park Zoo is a wonderful small zoo in this community! Their focus is on education, conservation, and repopulation. People may be surprised to learn that MPZ is home to many rare animals, and that as part of the Species Survival Program they are helping rebuild the numbers of rare and endangered animals. E.g, snow leopards recently had twin cubs here, and there is a wolf habitat raising endangered wolves for reintroduction into the wild.

It's a perfect size for a couple of hours or a day trip, and very family-friendly in size and scope. Zookeepers and student volunteers do a wonderful job interacting with guests and animals during education presentations throughout the day. The rainforest is lovely, as is the landscaping throughout the zoo. They are planning a big expansion and renovation of older parts of the zoo, to better serve the animals in their care. Definitely worth visiting!

Nice little zoo

By Mandy N |

The zoo is very well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. It is small but definitely worth a visit or membership if you're in the area long enough and enjoy weekly or monthly visits. My kids and I love seeing the animals and watching them eat, play, etc.

Small but nice

By TLH_mom_of_3 |

As far as zoos go, this is a really small zoo and you could easily take your time looking at the animals and be done within 2 hours. However, the staff are incredibly helpful and polite. They are eager to let you pet some of the smaller animals as they walk around the zoo and answer any questions you may have. You can bring in food and drinks and eat at one of the picnic tables. There are plenty of restrooms through the small park. There is a small petting zoo area with goats and chickens walking around.

Local zoo

By marilynmE4954GX |

It is hard to believe that a community of this size has such a wonderful attraction for locals as well as guests. A few years ago, I suggested to a person who once lived in the area that she take her children to the zoo. She looked at me in shock stating she doubted it would be worthwhile because her memories of it were negative. WELL, she was mightily surprised at the condition of the zoo, its variety, its cleanliness, its overall appeal. We are fortunate to have this fine establishment in our community.

It's ok for a zoo

By weluvtravlin5 |

The exhibits are small, but they do have a good variety of animals. I wish the zoo took up the entire park, but sadly, it's just a very small portion. Those poor animals. :(

Very small, but nice

By azsuma |

Very small, but nice with a small budget. I would not plan to spend all afternoon here. But, it is a pleasant way to spend an hour or two. They have a nice petting zoo area and a few very nice exhibits.

It is a nice clean, small zoo.Very interactive, Nice park alsoon the outside of zoo.picnic. The staff very friendly

New flamingo exhibit is a nice addition!

By weyes |

Great small zoo with animals that will interest every member of your family, but probably most interesting for children under age 9. The flamingos are a nice new addition and we enjoyed watching them for a while on our last visit. The bird feeding is fun to do once, but wouldn't recommend for timid kids, because the birds will fly right at you to get the food. You have to time that one right as they only feed at certain times. The goats in the petting zoo are friendly. Great zoo to spend and hour or two at, but won't be as awe-inspiring as some larger zoos. The volunteers are always friendly, and the zoo is kept in great condition.

Okay since there is nothing else

By TastyMagazine |

If you have kids and are in the area, you may as well take them to this zoo. It is small, there are only 2 bathrooms in the entire zoo and the food is expensive. It is okay. It is hard to locate as well as I remembered driving around in circles looking for the entrance.

Great Time with the Family

By Rizz_McBain |

Great local place to take the little ones. Very Enjoyable. It's a perfect time filler for an afternoon or morning.

Simple, fun way to spend a few hours!

By supapfunk |

A fun little local zoo worth a visit. Plan to spend ~ 2-3 hours here. The wallaby enclosure is super cool, and the bird feeding experience is great (thought it is currently being revamped [summer 2017] and wasn't open during our visit). My daughter loved the rainforest exhibit, as they provided a bird guide and she enjoyed finding the birds throughout the exhibit. Restrooms easily accessible throughout the zoo and there's a cute little gift shop as you exit.

Beautiful park. It has a small, but nice zoo. Splash pad for kids is exceptionally nice! Worth the trip to Bloomington!

Zoo-rific time!

Great little zoo with a wide selection of animals. Ticket pricing was decent and the zoo was easy to find and walk around.

Better than what you would think for a city of this size

By mrsaintmarteeen |

Miller Park has a very nice zoo with a number of different kinds of animals, some you would not expect to see. It is not a large zoo, but it is well laid out and will please people wanting a zoo experience. I got some very nice photos of the animals at the zoo--do bring your camera. Miler Park is much more than a zoo. It has a lagoon and people do go out on boats I know in the summer. There is also a pavilion and lots of area to just take a walk. I learned about Miller Park in the 1960's but it still attacks people today. Extremely kid friendly with activities for kids.

Great place to spend a day

By mikepri |

I thought the zoo was a great place to visit. A good place to learn and watch animals . The gift shop was cool too.

A Saturday at the Zoo

By DebG477 |

The staff always seems friendly and caring at this zoo. This is one case where smaller is better. We were able to see animals being fed and were given information on the animal's behaviors and age by staff. It is very noticeable that the staff knows and cares about the animals. The layout of the zoo allows you to walk at your own pace and see the animals fairly close up.

We love this Zoo

By Hilary S |

This is a smaller zoo but the animals are great and the opportunities for education that they offer this community are amazing. From classes for 3-5 year olds, junior zookeepers and special walks for seniors, it is all great.

Great little zoo

By Amy |

I took the kids in February when they had free admission on Friday's, it was a beautiful 70 degree day!!! We saw most of the animals out and about. The flamingos must have been locked up and were sad to not be able to see them. I enjoy the otters and I'm excited that they just had 2 pups. The kids enjoyed watching the 3 sea lions swimming and playing. It was a nice day.

A Great Place for A Small Town

We were impressed with the variety of animals here for such a small place. The variety made it interesting and watching the seals and otter feedings is a lot of fun.

We look forward going back just to enjoy a day of sketching some of the wildlife.

More than expected

By Thetaxlady |

This place was great. There were many animals in this zoo that I had not seen before. Up and close enclosures and well maintained. I would return to this zoo again. The employees in the gift shop were very helpful too. We looked at everything and it took us about an hour and half.

Great place for a Birthday

The party room is perfect. Private entrance to the zoo and you get goodie bags for your guests. And you can have private encounters with zoo animals that keepers bring to the party.

Tiny zoo with few animals

After spending $32 just to enter these small gates, we were more than underwhelmed, and so were our 3 children. Save your money and play on the free playground out front--you'll be happy you saved your $ and your kids will have more fun.

A day trip from Peoria, Illinois

By KayKyCo |

This is a smaller zoo but there are plenty of exciting animals to see. It is easy walking. The $6.95 per adults for admissions in reasonable. We saw two otters in the water and then on logs scratching themselves. They have a small but interesting hot jungle house. We saw a large tiger and a smaller one. There is a small Australian exhibit with 3 wallabies. There was a reptile home. An Alligator display will be coming soon. It was in the 50s and 60s with a light breeze. I think it was perfect weather because the animals liked being out and active because it wasn't too hot. My husband, my high school age son, our adult son with autism and my sister went. There were lots of families with small children and strollers seeming to have a great time and getting around with ease.

Great little zoo

My wife and I were in the area for the weekend and looking for things to do. We found out about the Miller Park Zoo. We love zoo's so we checked it out. We had a great time. Nice selection of animals for a small zoo. It was clean and well kept. We would definitely recommend it to others looking for something to do for a couple hours.

Little but good for toddlers

By Britty |

We went to the zoo it's small but we had toddlers so they enjoyed it. It's right next to a playground and a splahpad we were going to go to the playground but it started to storm halfway through. It's a nice little zoo to get out of the car at if your traveling with toddlers.

Small but mighty

By Laura R |

Love having a nice but small zoo close to home. Never knew about this zoo until I had children and love taking them there to see how much they light up. Definitely worth the money and hour drive. Thinking of investing in a family membership so we can visit a few times over the year. The kangaroo/wallaroo exhibit is prolly one of our favorites. It's a up close and personal experience and exciting to see them roar around and jump right in front of you. The staff have always been so nice and friendly and seem to really care about the animals. Definitely a must see if your in the area. And the park next too the zoo is a family favorite to visit afterwards or great for a packed lunch after or between the zoo!

Nice zoo

My grandchildren enjoy this very doable and enjoyable zoo. They espectally like the petting zoo area. The scheduled educational talks along the path through the zoo are appropriate and fun. Great playgrounds out and about within Miller Park add to the day of fun.

A good visit

By railfan84 |

Certainly not the biggest zoo I've ever been to but the variety of animals was awesome. We saw many species of mammals and reptiles we were not familiar with. My daughter and I even got to hold Ernie a Madagascar hissing cockroach lol. It won't take you long to see everything there but you will enjoy your visit especially if you have young children.

Excellent

By Smythe77654 |

It's a small zoo, but one that is interesting and fun. It's an old-time zoo with plenty of animals on a relatively small parcel which permits seeing a lot in a small area for those with difficulty walking. The enclosures are modest so, unlike those huge habitat areas where the animals can hide out from patrons back in the vegetation, here they are always in full view. You will see otters, bears, tigers, monkeys, meerkats, and foxes, among others. A fun and inexpensive way to spend a few hours.

Cute little zoo

By fireboss13 |

Perfect for families with little ones. You can get in and out in a short amount of time and they still have larger and neat animals.

I love visiting the zoo. Miller Park is decent

By Tara H |

My kids had a ball when we went. Not too much to do while you are here because it is Not very huge but it is decent to visit.

Small But Very Impressive Zoo

By CINTraveler |

Miller Park Zoo is one of the smallest AZA accredited zoos in the country; only about 10% of all zoos and aquariums in the country are so accredited. It's a beautiful zoo, with quite a variety of animals, many of which are endangered. They participate in the endangered species breeding program. Most recently, some of the Red Wolves born last spring were released via the National Red Wolf Recovery Program.

My husband and I visit the zoo several times a year and always enjoy it. Some of our favorite animals are the Amur leopard, lemurs, Pallas cats and red panda. There is a small rainforest area and you can get quite close to some of the birds in there. The animal feeding schedule is posted on their website - it's especially fun to watch the sea lion and river otters during feeding. There is also a petting zoo section, open during the summer months, which children really enjoy.

If you're just visiting the area this won't be of interest, but it shows the Zoo's commitment to education and the community. They do zoo tours for groups, usually children, and have a number of camps and classes for children as well as a Jr. Zookeeper Program.

Even if you do not have children, if you love animals I highly recommend taking some time to visit the zoo . And if you have children, I'm sure they'll love it. For its size it is very impressive.

Here is the Zoo's webstie: http://www.cityblm.org/parks/Miller-Park-Zoo/about-the-zoo.htm

Nice couple hour trip

By Kerry L |

I bring my son here all the time. It's a good way to waste a couple hours. Plus, they sometimes have different events (like the zoo spooktacular the Sunday before Halloween). My son's favorite part is the carousel. They also have feedings every day that you can see. For $16, my family of 3 (2 adults, 1 child) has a great time every time we visit the zoo.

Good little zoo

By Ashley T |

MPZ is a decent zoo for a smaller city. Great for younger kids. It's rarely busy so you can take your time and look at everything without fighting other families to see the animals. We have a family pass and go all the time. The staff is nice and really care about the animals. When you go check their website for feeding times. It's fun to see the river otters and sea lions be fed. My only complaint would be the size of the enclosures for most of the animals. Of course this is an issue with most zoos.

Great little zoo

By hjk1962 |

Fun community zoo with nice variety, low admission and great playground.

What a surprise!

By JV12013 |

I have been to small town zoo's in lots of places, but this one was really among the best I have seen.
The animals are displayed so they are easy to see even by the smallest child. The animals are fed at opening and again right before closing so you have a good chance of seeing several animals eating.
There were several animals that I had not seen in a zoo before such as the Singing Dogs from Australia and the Red Wolf from the Carolina's.
When you are done at the zoo there is a large playground and splash fountain across the street from the zoo in the large park.

great zoo for a small town

Zoo with little to do

By AlejandraHafner |

Small zoo -- can get through the entire experience in a minutes. I believe they do offer classes to children to learn more about animals, but have never signed my kids up.

This place is not right

By john s |

I cannot BELIEVE this zoo still houses tigers and other wild animals. For the size, they should be restricted by law to ONLY house farm animals such as goats, sheep, etc and make this a petting zoo if anything at all. A full grown tiger has NO LIFE in this small of a cage, and also absolutely no socialization. Get it together Bloomington!! This is UNETHICAL!

Decent Zoo

By Ronald K |

There was nothing spectacular about this zoo... but it was okay and did the job of keeping my kids from getting too bored. They did have some animals (tiger for one) that I would not expect a small zoo to have.

Zoo visit

By Brian D |

This is a nice zoo for a smaller town. The price is very fair. I have been to this motel several times over the years.

Nice zoo

By Kim R |

Miller Park Zoo is a really nice, little zoo. You can do the whole thing in an hour or you can really take your time and spend a couple of hours. The Wallaby Walkabout is neat. It allows you to be very close to the Wallabies. We also enjoy the Sun Bears. You don't get to see those at every zoo. The fees for the zoo are very affordable.

Nice visit

By SarahLMD77 |

Miller Park Zoo, although quite small, had a variety of animals. Being used to the enormous Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, this zoo offered a relaxed pace and we were able to view all the animals within an hour. The entry fee was very reasonable and the zoo also offers a fantastic playground.

Miller Zoo

The zoo was located very close to our hotel. The entrance cost is minimal. The zoo is small but displayed nicely. You were able to enjoy the animals and see them quite clearly. It was a very nice change and I enjoyed the visit.

For a population of 130,000 you will find no better zoo. It is excellent for 5 to 12 year olds. Quite clean with many different exhibits. A full tour of it will take one to two hours depending. Perfect for children.

First rate animals. Helpful staff and family priced. Also if you get a zoo membership you can also go to other zoos across the country. Well maintained. Gave gone many times over the years.

Great Mid-Size Zoo

By Nick_BMI |

Miller Park is a great mid-size zoo and getting better each time we visit. The new zookeeper has a master plan to improve Miller Park and you can see that plan in action. They are increasing the number of animals and more importantly improving the habitats for the current animals and the new animals they are bring in. It is a very fun and relaxing zoo to visit. There are attractions for all ages and you can set your own pace for your visit.

Good for it's size

By Jbowling |

Miller Park Zoo is a very nice for it's size. It has a nice variety of animals which are usually easily seen because of the size of the enclosures. The zoo is clean. Some may consider the cost a little pricey but it is only given a small budget by the city and gets most of its funding from admission fees and private donations.

Great zoo for small children!

By carinj |

Went to the zoo while in town for a wedding. We took our 2 year old twins, it was perfect for them. Lots in interesting animals. Spent 2 hours there, it is a smaller zoo but just the right size for fabulous with young kids.

Small zoo, but not to be missed!

By Carol M |

Delightful small zoo with a good collection of animals. Miller Park Zoo is one of the places Brookfield Zoo will send animals who are convalescing or ones they want to place at other zoos permanently. The building is older but well kept and has had several additions over the years. Staff will readily respond to visitor questions!

Zany Zoo

By stqci s |

As an educator we often took field trips to Miller Park zoo, Although they have added some exhibits, the zoo is very small townish. There is not a wide variety of animals and the set up is poor. The learning center provides some opportunities for children to interact with animals. Kids were bored easily and just wanted to run around. My favorite animal....the otters! There is a park with playground equipment and the kids loved that!

Great mid-sized zoo!

By EBRNielsen |

Miller Park Zoo is a wonderful mid-sized zoo. You can see animals up close and most are in enclosures that imitate natural habitats. Be sure to attend the sea lion training session. The zoo has three sea lions, two of which are very young. You will get to see how they train them so that vets can handle them for medical exams. Also watch the river otter feeding. There is a petting zoo, carousel, and other hands on exhibits. Over the years, this zoo has really improved and it is worth the small entry fee to visit. You won't be disappointed! This is a quality zoo.

Not bad, not great

By GetMeOuttaThisTown |

This is a pretty small zoo. A lot of the animal exhibits should be bigger than what they have. I enjoyed the tropical rainforest the most where they had lots of different animals all over. Didn't see any concession stands, just vending machines.

Perfect size to get through it all

By Publius43 |

Try to feed the birds, touch the turtles, and hang out with the roos! You'll be able to walk the whole thing within a couple hours, and it's great for kids in the summer because there's a playground and water park next door.

Nice little Zoo. Not to big, it has a lot of mature trees around it so a lot of shade. They have young volunteers that are very friendly and helpful. It is very clean. We got to see them feed some of the animals. They have a small carousel that you can ride. My family enjoyed it.

A little gem!

By SweetViolets23 |

Great zoo with lovely grounds. MPZ is small but well-stocked, and has many rare animals due to its active role in the Species Survival Plan breeding program. Keepers are excellent too. A perfect way to spend a couple of hours any time of year!

Not as fun as you'd expect

By LeeAnn K |

After visiting other bigger city's zoos, Miller Park Zoo pales in comparison,,, Bloomington is a smaller town but the zoo is over-priced for what they have. There is also some construction going on now that makes the grounds look horrible. My two year old enjoyed it enough but my 7 year old nephew was bored quickly. We went through the whole zoo, including watching the sea lions and otter's feedings in less than 2 hours. The playground is great though. The entire playground is on that squishy rubber so even if it is muddy, the kids can still play on the playground.

Nice small zoo

By S S |

This is a nice small zoo. Free parking. Large jungle gym for the kids close by to the entrance. Animals feel pretty close up. Flamingos once you walk in. Australian animals, reindeer, otters, seals, snow leopards, bats behind glass, petting zoo with goats to brush, bald eagles, several tortoises, merry-go-round =$1.75. Not too much walking required. Small gift shop on the way out.

By UltimateDuke |

This place is ok for the amount of space and money they have to work with. With more area and more funding, it wouldn't be so limited. Not too many animals and you can see it all in a pretty short amount of time.

Nice, small local zoo

By bookman63 |

Miller Park Zoo is a small town zoo with some facilities that have been upgraded in recent years. They have a nice variety of animal species and are fine for a short visit. The zoo in Peoria seemed much nicer in my opinion.

Gem in Bloomington IL!!

By Julie N |

We visited this zoo a few weeks ago. I had been in the hospital and just wanted to get out and enjoy on a sunny Sunday.

We are an older couple and there were several children there. Great place for kids and grown ups too!!

Located in West Bloomington IL. It is a few blocks off Main St. But there are signs to mark the way.

Great little zoo with indoor and outdoor exhibits.

By sheilac973 |

Feeding time is the best time but all of the zoo is fun and educational for the family. I liked the indoor tropical area with birds and turtles in a natural habitat free.

Fun and worthwhile (especially for kids)

By Philip E |

Not over priced - but if you are in the area makes sense to by the yearly membership - which has it privaledges; beside being able to come and visit the zoo at anytime of the year there are many other zoos in the country that have a partnership which gives you free acces to their zoo. Ex. we were in San Antonio Texas and got in free (price of admission would have been about the cost of our yearly membership at Miller Park Zoo). The staff has always be helpful. Be sure to hit one or more of the feeding times to get some full involvment. The MPZ also has many opportunities for young people to volunteer and learn and help with the zoolife. http://4.17.232.139/parks/Miller-Park-Zoo/about-the-zoo.htm

Cutest little zoo ever!

By love2vacation38 |

We were in town for a wedding and had a few hours to kill. Decided to go to the Miller Park zoo with our teenagers and we all LOVED it! Hardly anyone there so we could spend as much time as we wanted at each exhibit. Animals were active. Staff very friendly. It’s small but very nice!

It's a great park!

Small Zoo with a Large Variety of Animals

By jchapo |

This ZOo may be physically small but it offers a lot of animals. It is perfect for younger families or seniors who need a little less walking. However, it is a very charming zoo with quite an array of animals. From the Wallaby walk-About to beautiful tigers and snow leopards it is a fun zoo.

Plus it is located in a delightful park and there is an awesome playground just outside of the zoo entrance.
Definitely a young family destination.

Big City Feel, Small town Charm

Not only is the zoo itself a jewel in our town, it's nestled in a wonderful city park full of activities that appeal to all age ranges.

Enjoyable but short

We really enjoyed our time there. Overall the experience was good. We just wished there were some more exhibits.

Enjoy visiting my local zoo. Nice animals and facilities. Convenient location in Bloomington/Normal.

Fun Day.

Miller Park Zoo is small, but it has lots and animals. Some very endangered animals that you might not think a small zoo would have. A few years ago they renovated an Amazon exhibit that is really fun! It makes you feel like you are there and you get to walk around with the birds flying around you. They also recently got two harbor seals that are so cute!!

Excellent small city zoo

Excellent zoo for a city the size of Bloomington/Normal. Many indoor and outdoor attractions to see. Excellent junior zookeeper program for kids and young adults. We even hosted a birthday party at the zoo and it went very well.

Cool Zoo

Very good zoo given the size of Bloomington. Don't expect a "big city" zoo; yet get better than you'd think. We spent just under 2 hours here. Easy to follow paths. Wide variety of animals: Australian walk-about, tortoise, wolves, birds, goats (can be fed and petted), guanacos, flamingos, otters, tiger, red pandas and more. They have a lunch counter; plenty of tables. Plenty of shade (we went on a warm day), yet also open areas. Great for kids of all ages.

Small, but a nice place

This is a very small zoo, but it is a very nice place to stop, especially if you have small children. They have a carousel, and a nice park for kids to play with several monuments right next to the zoo to look at. Everything was well taken care of and reasonably priced.

Nice little zoo

Miller Park Zoo is a nice zoo! It's small, but they have some great animals, including a tiger, 2 snow leopards and a sun bear! The wallaby area is pretty cool too. The prices were good and our kids enjoyed it. Nice way to spend 60-90 mins! They also have a big park in front of it with a water-play area.

Really nice place

Very nice place to visit! Like everything but Wolves and wild Dogs super interesting! Bird sanctuary very interesting also!
Grounds very well kept up!

Kid friendly, annual membership suggested if planning multiple visit during the tear

One of the better kept small scale zoos in Illinois. Kid friendly. Petting zoo available during summer month. Nice park and playgrounds around the zoo - great for a picnics and family outings, before of after the visit. I personally love the otters, especially the one named Ozzy - who I believe is still around!
The seals are cool as well.

Small but wonderful!

Very Nice

The zoo is small. But it is very well laid out. It is very clean and all the animals were very active and happy. Even on a very hot and humid day.

This is a “cute” little zoo perfect for a day with family. Easy to walk, well maintained and reasonably priced. It’s perfect for a afternoon with grandma and grandpa and not overly crowded like many big zoos.

Day trip

By Dulcinea H |

My husband and I stopped here on a day trip from Springfield. We really enjoyed it! There were many more animals than we we're anticipating. The experience was totally worth the price of admission. All of the exhibits were well maintained, and there's more to come!

Great little zoo.

Having lived in Bloomington in the 70's for 4 years, Miller park was a palce my brothers and I would go to play baseball and have fun in the park. WE always visited the little zoo that was there. Coming back to the park, nearly 40 years later was surprised to see how well it had developed. Plenty of animals on display, the displays were well thought out and it was a great day. Will definitely be back. A must if you are in the area

Lucky to have in our small town!

The zoo is not big size wise, but we have many animals and programs and special events for kids. They participate in breeding programs with other large zoos around the country and offer an educational junior zookeeper program. Admission cost is extremely low, and they reciprocate other AZA zoos. There is a small gift shop, historic carousel, and now concessions!

Great family time!

We loved the zoo! For the price, we feel that we got our money's worth! Most of the animals were out and about. Did not see the flamingoes and the inside of the big cat habitats were closed, but other than that, it was a great experience!
