Perfect place to take pictures ! Even my teenagers were awe-struck, which is rare as they got to keep it cool & display disdain to a place picked by parents. It is an easy walk from parking lot.
Please do not bring your very young walking children as it could be dangerous. I witnessed a young family with 2 kids running in opposite direction that made me so worrisome.

The overlook itself was SO well maintained and provided stunning views of the lakeshore below. There are also a lot of picnic sites that were really well maintained and sweet. For non-hikers, you can drive to this overlook! For hikers, you can hike to it from the Miners Falls ranger station. Check it out!

Nice area for viewing. The trails to each of the lookouts are very doable. A bit of an incline of the way back up from the lower lookout. The water is beautiful. Would recommend going to the beach area next to this. Very clear water. Would recommend.

The drive from town was farther than normal due to the road closure. Usually it is a short drive. But it was still worth it. This is an easy walk and well worth the views. The beach is just a short drive from here.

For those people who are not physically able or do not have the time to spend at the Pictured Rock National Shoreline, a stop at the Overlook will give you the idea of what the area is like. The walk is short to the viewing site.

Fairly decent hike with not a whole lot of elevation changes. A few places to view the sandstone rock and the water.

My family and I went to go check out Miner's Castle rock and it was beautiful, great place for pictures that now hang on my wall. The walk is pretty easy to get down there, for young children and older citizens. We even saw Kayak's around there, not sure where you pick those up. It's worth the trip.

Our group did the short 1.2 mile walk to the Falls because one person was having back issues. The walk was easy enough for him and the kids went off on other trails. The falls were beautiful!

I read this on a travel blog and wanted to make sure that I shared this. There is also a minor's beach a little beyond the rock area. When you follow the signs to the beach- go to the right (There are two lots). On the right side of the beach you will see rock formations that you can (carefully) climb and explore. There's even a small waterfall. It's probably the coolest beach we've been to in Michigan. The beach is also dog friendly!

Drove several miles and did short walk to both viewpoints. Lots of people. Shoreline view was great, but not much to see in terms of the rock formation. Way over hyped, in my view.

Enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the accessibility was nice with clear paths and lookouts. Warning that there are many stairs and if you have mobility problems it may pose a real challenge to get to the lookouts. It might be beneficial to have good hiking boots or shoes if you take the hiking trail to Miners beach as it has exposed tree roots.

The scenery was beautiful on the drive & once there. A short walk to the castle rock. Worth the time.

the view here was amazing exactly as if you were looking at the ocean. the hike to the viewing area was very easy.

Within park boundaries, this is THE place to stop to say you've been to Pictured Rocks. It can be a quick stop for a picture or a longer picnic or day hike trailhead. The classic view is handicap accessible with paved parking and walkway to the overlook. You can also walk down the hill to see the rock up close (but beware, you have to walk back up too).

My grandson saw Miners Castle Rock featured on a calendar and had it on a 'must-see' list when he knew we were going to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The colors are amazing and we couldn't quit taking pictures. We hiked over to the lookout to view it from the other side. Easy access for those who like to hike.

Miners Castle Rock was easy to get to. Has a building with restrooms and some information on the area right by the parking lot. The parking lot is large but the close parking fills up.
It is a short walk to the main overlook. It is an amazing view! I loved that they wall had little windows in it so my younger kiddos could look out without me having to hold them up.
If you want a closer look, there is a walk way (with a few stairs) to get closer to the rocks. There was a ranger there answering questions while we were there. It is a walk back up a hill to get back to the parking area from here but not bad.

This is a beautiful view and I highly recommend taking the drive over even if you took a boat tour! It is a short walk and nicely accessible. From there, we drove over to the beach and it is absolutely beautiful as far as the eye can see.

Fun place to stop when you don't have a lot of time but want to check out the Rocks. We did this with the falls. Intended to do beach as well but we got a little too chilled in wind.

Trail is walkway to 3 overlooks. Accessible to all (except 3rd....which has a path down a hill). Impressive rock formation.

Beautiful views and very easy access. Short walk from parking lot to upper observation deck. Lower deck is down quite a few stairs but upper deck has the better view.

Surprisingly beautiful view. Forest service did a great job setting up educational exhibits. Clean bathrooms

We snowmobiled to Miner's Castle to see the area in winter. Beautiful! We highly recommend experiencing this winter wonderland. We visited Miner's Castle this past summer. It is even more impressive in winter.

If you're in the area, and you are not able to take the cruise (or even if you are), check out this beautiful park. The elevated views are stunning. It's worth driving down to the beach as well. Just note that the beach is tough to walk on, the sand doesn't pack like other beaches. You'll get a workout, but if you head to the west side of the beach, you'll be able to climb some of the rocks, not to mention see/cross the shallow river that cuts through the beach.

Lots of parking available. A little bit of a hike down a heavily treed and well groomed path to see Miners Castle. The hike to the cliff formation goes a little faster because you are descending. Coming back, just take it slow and steady. Modern restrooms and a Visitors Center are near the parking lot. Dogs are allowed here.

I will have to start out saying, I ripped my calf muscle earlier that day, so it did affect my trip, but no fault of this spot.
I enjoyed that I only had to walk less than 400 feet from the parking lot to the overlook. The view was awesome and breath-taking. I could have stayed there all day, but as the reviews say, it was busy. Even in the middle of a pandemic, it was busy. The restrooms were still closed due to the Governor's ruling with Covid, but there were still a lot of people there. The view. Wow. There's a few areas along the short walkway between the upper view and the stairs to the lower view. The lower view is only 1000 feet further, but lots of decline and ramps. I was not able to walk them due to my leg, but my friend showed me her pics and wow.
I will be going back in September for the full effect.
On the road leaving, we did spot a wolf. That's kinda scary but also pretty dang cool at the same time.

We came to the Miners area for some views around sunset and definitely got what we were looking for. We spent about half an hour at and strolling between the information center (mostly open air with some signs, although I believe there were restrooms) and the two overlooks. The upper overlook gives you a more iconic view down over the lake and the Miners Castle formation. The lower one gets you right up close to the rock itself, which was a fun perspective and also gave nice views of Lake Superior.
I loved the light near sunset when we visited, but I'm sure the views are picturesque at any time, and this was the best location we found to clearly see the "pictured" rocks and their colors without actually being out on the water.

Miner's Castle is the western start of the Lake Superior Scenic Shoreline. The views get even more spectacular as you head east. Miner's Castle is also one of the few parts of the shoreline you can reach by car. All the rest can only be reached by hiking or by boat. Gorgeous scenery. There is a nice big beach. Good place to look for beautiful Lake Superior polished stones. Excellent place for a picnic.

If your trip is cut short make sure this is one of your stops. Absolutely beautiful! Would stop again.

Easily accessible viewing area for this beautiful rock outcropping. The surrounding water is gorgeous !

You walk up to a station with bathrooms and a bunch of boards of information! Then have the choice to take one of 4 different trails all which lead to spectacular views of Lake Superior and pictured rocks!

It is a nice view if you don't have time to rent a pontoon. But you get better views from the water. Go to both overlooks.

Highly recommend the drive out here. The view is beautiful. It is handicapped accessible and a very easy walk.

Our family enjoys visiting Miner's Castle every summer while vacationing in the Munising area. The pictures taken are breathtaking and very memorable. Pictures can be taken without going down the path closer to the rock, but is worth the effort if you've never seen it up close.

A shortish trail leads you to two different viewing points of Miners Castle, one of which puts you right behind it, the other gives you a nice view of the shoreline.

There were a lot of photo opportunities. Friendly, helpful local people. Many activities for people of all ages and fitness levels

Have been here about 6 times, and love it! Watching the waves crash into the base of the cliff and pulse through the sea caves is awesome!

The trek in was a bit rough, the path was not smooth and it had a few steep elevations. But it was worth the walk and it was really nice they had benches at every turn. For someone with a hip injury this was great for me to sit a moment and restart. It is really something to see.

We enjoyed our stop off here and went to each lookout area. There were nice bathroom facilities and the views were gorgeous.

One of my favorite views in the Pictured Rock area from the shore. There are two viewing areas. The top viewing area (left from the buildings) is the iconic spot to see from. The other viewing area is to the right and lets you see the top of the “castle.” There is a kiosk with information and there are restrooms are available. A park pass is required. A week park pass for the park is currently $25.

The view is breathetaking! You can walk down close to the rock for close up view. Good for family. At ;east the walk is close to the parking lot.

My family enjoyed exploring this viewing area. You do have to go down a long ramp to get to the best viewing area, but it's worth it. Just take your time coming back up. ;)

A good stop for easy to reach pictures and bathrooms. The two overlook spots are very easy to reach and walk. There is a lower overlook that is a slight bit more a hike. Judge the group accordingly

If you have never been here or seen it you wouldnt understand!! It is the most beautiful place in the world!!!

Stunning. Nice trails . Great experience
The one mile trail is well maintained and worthy of your time.
We recommend this area.

The castle view is awesome, there are lower level and upper level view and lover one is small walk. The walk could be little slippery for children if they are running. I linked the view of the rocks from the Miners beach as well which is just beside the castle. The beach is small but nice and full of colorful stones. you can spend some time here provided its not foggy (the fog can suddenly cover everything even on a very sunny day). We went there in the evening also which was better than the noon and more clear.

This is a beautiful overlook, but take the mile hike to the beach. We got a little lost going off the most beaten path, so it was about 3 miles for us. We found some other people who got lost, so make sure you pick the path most worn!

We visited in September and were disappointed that the restrooms were locked up and everything was closed up. It's less than 300 ft from the parking lot to the overlook and even enjoyable to see the views on a rainy day. Beautiful scenery.

I went when this was closed to the covid situation. I was able to walk around the grounds though and was able to see the scenic view of the bridge.

I don’t think there were bad views of anything we saw! Loved the views from this spot. Was not difficult to hike/walk to the look outs and scenic view points.

Miner's Castle is very secluded and on the coastline. It would be a great picnic area. Nice woods and walking trails. Very beautiful area.

You don’t want to pass this up! We actually visited this place from a pontoon boat! No dogs allowed tho! Must see area for sure

We were not able to see Miners Castle because the parking lot was under construction. Hoped to hike over from Miners Beach (beautiful), but there wasn’t any signage to Miners Castle at all. Disappointing.

Had such an amazing time on a private tour boat. This entire trip of Picture Rocks is an amazing way to wonder in nature's splendor.

Don’t miss this beautiful rock formation. It’s an easy walk out to the overlook. The water in Lake Superior is amazingly clear and if you didn’t know better, you would think you were in the Caribbean.

Go to see the rock formation but then head on down to Miners' Beach. Take a picnic in your backpack and stay awhile. It is a beautiful beach.

We went to the UP with the intent to see the Pictured Rocks and also take advantage of the dark skies to see NEOWISE. The view was gorgeous and the night sky was spectacular.

Easy, very short (250') hike from parking area. Spectacular view of rock formation and Lake Superior shoreline. Possibly the most colorful photo you'll get while here.

We were passing through and spent about an hour going up to the Miners Castle area and walked the trails. Definitely worth the ride up to this area.

One of the more easily accessed sites along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Road access right to it lets you drive in very close to the site vs many of the other attractions that require a bit more of a hike. A lovely close up look at some of what makes pictured rocks so special. Also very worth the time to head a little down the branch road to Miner's beach and take a stroll down to the mouth of Miner's river.

We went there on a Wednesday afternoon, there were many parking spots available. The trail is short to the upper view platform. The green color water and the Castle rock together looked very beautiful.
The trail is short with some stairs to lower view platform. you cannot see the Castle very well from there. I like the view from upper overlook better.

We have traveled here almost annually for the past 15 years. This is a beautiful place where you can unplug and enjoy nature in all its beauty. Several places to get to the beach (stairs) or simply see the spectacular views. Nice trail system; really short walks, medium walks (2 mi) and longer hikes. Free parking, bathrooms, a few picnic tables and charcoal grills. Dogs on leash allowed. No drones.
If you would like to see the rock formations and colors from the water, I highly recommend the Pictured Rocks Boat Tours! (3 hours)

It was a nice panoramic view of the lake superior as pictured and a place to hike. Bring a mosquito repellant when taking a hike or walk on the trail.

One of my favorite places we stopped during our visit to Munising. It was a beautiful sunny day and the views from the lookout were breathtaking.

Dog friendly. Beautiful views of Lake Superior from multiple overlooks. If it wasn’t so brisk, you might believe you are viewing the Caribbean Sea.

A stunning view that doesn't require a long hike. There are two overlooks. Don't miss this one. Bathrooms on site.

This area is a must see in the lakeshore. There are more than a couple of views to be had here. Take the paved trail from the initial deck off to the right and follow it all the way down to the 2nd platform. There are a bunch of awesome views along the way.

I have hiked the trail and also see it from the water, both have their own specific beauty to them. For being just a rock formation, it is quite spectacular to see in person.

Beautiful! Loved that it was an paved walk to the viewing points! The water was so blue! Lots of people were upset the bathrooms were closed - esp in the peak of the fall colors!

I have been to Munising a number of times and wish I would have found this overlook on earlier trips. Beautiful views of Pictured Rocks and Lake Superior. It requires walking up and down a fair number of steps; but they have places for people to rest.

This was so beautiful and as beautiful as the pictures are, they just don't do it jutice. Our kids (8 &10) loved it too!

This picture is what postcards are made of...this is totally breathtaking and you will be amazed but you MUST visit on a clear sunny day to see the true beauty

Very short walk from the parking lot to a most gorgeous view. The water is so crystal clear and the most beautiful green. This overlook also gives you a wonderful view of Miner's Castle.
You can continue down the path to another lovely view. If you are willing to walk a ways further and do a little...really little... stair climbing, you can walk out to Miner's Castle and see it up close.
There is also a Visitor Center here with a ranger who can answer your questions.

Absolutely gorgeous view! I can not believe the color of the Lake. Nice easy hike for a beautiful view!

One of the good lookouts in the area. Gives you a taste of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Worth visiting.

While the best views at Pictured Rocks are from the water looking back at the colorful sandstone cliffs, the viewpoints at Miners Castle Rock, just a short walk from the parking lot near the end of Miners Castle Road, offer the best land based views of the colorful cliffs, sandy beach, Lake Superior, Grand Island, and perhaps some paddlers or the Pictured Rocks Cruise boat below. There is also an information center and restrooms available near the parking lot.

We drove H58 to the Miner's Castle Rock overlook visiting on a slightly gloomy day but at the height of fall colors. It's gorgeous rain or shine. The view is a short walk from the parking lot and there are very nice restroom facilities. Surprisingly uncrowded on a colorful fall weekend.

Stunning! We saw some kids with boogie boards down in this area. Not sure how they got there (or if they were suppose to be there). Just a beautiful sight!!

The view here is absolutely beautiful. When coming to the area this is a MUST see. When visiting the area we will definitely go back

Such a pretty spot. One of the turrets fell in 2006, but still a great view. A bit of a walk, but it was nice and cool out. You can also see it from the boat cruise.

The walk to the lookout is easy, just a few hundred steps from the parking lot and the views of Lake Superior and shoreline are STUNNING!

Good viewing of the rock from a couple of viewing stations then an easy boardwalk down to the rock itself. Nice picnic area for when the weather is warmer!

I was on vacation on my way to a national seashore in WI and when I came in to Munsing there were pictures everywhere of this Pictured Rock National Lakeshow. It was memorial day weekend and apparently that is when the boat tours open. We missed that opportunity but went up to the overlook and then to Miners Falls. It was springtime up here so the trees were a rainbow of colors. Take your time and look around there is much to see here and several overlook platforms to take pictures from. I included only a couple of the pictures I took.

Booked a cruise to tour the Pictured Rocks, but the water was too rough on the day we were scheduled to go. Ended up driving to see different sights around the Pictured Rocks area. Miner's Castle was one of the first sights we arrived at after leaving downtown Munising. There is a park with a large parking lot at Miner's Castle and a short walk to two different viewing areas.

Nice hiking path to both viewing areas to see Miners Castle Rock. Beautiful Lake Superior water color.

This was an overlook from the road, and it was totally beautiful, the water looked like it was out of the Caribbean. Going on the rock itself is not possible, it is falling into lake superior. There is three different overlooks to see this, but this was my favorite one. Also possible to see from the pictured rock cruise. But this was by far the better view.

We went to visit this site on a windy day and it "blew" us away! The wind hits the cliff face and shoots straight up. As you lean over the railing, it feels like you're sky diving.

Worth a stop. Wish we had more time to so the hike too . will go back to do the north country trail along picture rocks.

Drive up to Miner's Castle Rock. You get a great view and it's free! Just a short walk from where you park.

We viewed this rock in two ways. We took a hike down a well paved path to the rock. The second time we viewed it was from the water and it did look like a castle.

I had this idea that Miners Castle was going to be the highlight of out Pictured Rocks trip. It was not and it wasn't even close. Is it very pretty? Absolutely. It is also very busy. The overlook by the parking lot is better than the view by the boardwalk that takes you to the rock formation itself. We did enjoy it, sure, but there is such a thing as being too close. The boardwalk take you on top of the rocks and that's just too close to get much of a feel to what you are looking at. It's cooler from a little distance.
It's definitely something you have to stop and see and you'll enjoy it. The zig-zag walk down to the rock is a bit of a hike, but nothing terrible.
I'd even argue that it's cooler to see from the cruise tour.

Once we figured out the exact spot to view this was great! A couple other hiking trails to get to different views at this location.

One of many hikes of the week. Beautiful views and nice walking paths. The day we were there, rangers were offering information displays of the area.

There are beautiful views from the top as well as from the water. It is a very short walk from the parking lot to the upper viewing platform. The lower platform is about a 1/4 mile walk down a paved path on a bit of a hill.

With plenty of parking and easy access from the highway. This is a must stop on your tour of the national seashore. Clean facilities and an easy walk to the two viewing decks of miners rock.

Beautiful views and only a 2 minute walk from the parking area. Great photo opportunities. Quick & simple!

The view is beautiful - there are multiple lookouts, so you can see the castle from a few different angles. Miner’s Castle and Miner’s Beach are both pet friendly as long as pets are on a 6ft lead, so we had a couple of happy puppies. ❤️ The path down and back up is not long, and not particularly challenging since it is paved.

Gator Grill is one of those roadside restaurants so many drive by. Don’t pass this one up! We were a little cautious. It is small and although there is some seating inside, the thatched roof patio is more spacious. We brought our dogs so they could sit outside with us. We ordered grouper tacos, and a grouper sandwich. Our food was brought out to us. We all were pleasantly surprised! Fresh fish and very tasty. Yes they do serve more than gator bites! Those are also available, along with other fresh fish, burgers and fries. We had a very nice meal and would return again. Don’t drive past this one. It is dffinatly worth stopping. The locals all do!

This is a neat sight. The hike is easy and worth it. The steps are well maintained. My 43 year old father in-law made the hike easily.

There's a reason they built a road to get you close to Miners Castle Rock - it is gorgeous. A very short walk and you get one of the prettiest spots in the area - you also get to see all the serous hikers come through which is pretty cool too.

Short, accessible, walk to the overlook points; the incline on the way back wasn’t as bad as it seemed it would be on the way there. Flush toilets were available. Bring the camera!

This is the best spot to see Pictured Rocks from the shore that is easily accessible. Large parking lot, sufficient bathrooms, and a nice display area lead you to the easily walkable overlooks of Miners Castle. The overlooks and path between them are all dog friendly.

Well worth a visit to see Miner's Castle on foot. We saw it from the boat a few months ago and it was just as beautiful from the path. Steps are well-kept and easily negotiable with resting points along the way. At sunset, the colors of the sky and water were so striking and gorgeous with pinks, oranges, and purples. Beautiful on a fall day!

Views are awesome. If you have the time, walk to Miners Beach via the North Country Trail. It's a mile hike, rocky and uneven but beautiful. We were here on a rainy day but loved it!

Short walk from the parking lot. There was a trail you can take down but we didn’t take that. Overlooks for some great pictures

This was so gorgeous. The color of the water was also amazing - very aqua and teal instead of dark blue. There were plenty of birds to see as well in this area.

We saw the rock from the water the day before and then walked to it from the park the next day. Spectacular view!

30 degrees and gloomy November day but still an incredible experience. Definitely want to come back in the summer and rent Kayaks to really see more of Picture Rocks in nicer weather and from the water.

Would have been a great picture day if there were not fire haze all over the place. The hike is not far to get here and there is an interactive information area by the restrooms. As you continue over to the main top platform there is usually a guide that will tell you information of the area. Kyakers usually are by the castle or roamming the area and then you can hike down to a beach and walk over if you want to travel 5 miles to get there.

The views from the observation areas are fantastic and are ADA friendly
Beautiful water so clear and colorful.
I saw the same area by water and I suggest both

Nice hike to the upper overlook to get pictures, then a walk to the lower vantage point. There are boardwalks for each trail. A snack shop and bathrooms. Nice area.

Miner’s Castle is an easy walk with an option to avoid stairs. There are 2 places to view from above and a third place to view and be close to the “Castle”, or rock formation, on s lower viewing platform. There are stairs on the lower level. You can also hike to the Sand Point Beach from this site.
We were there on a foggy day, but it was still beautiful and can only imagine how far you can see on a clear day.
The best view comes from below on the Picture Rock Boat tour. If that is not in you plans, make sure you stop by and see nature’s creation.

Stopped on our way to Sault Ste. Marie from Houghton. Quick, informative stop. Stinky bathrooms. Educational. Worth the stop.

We stopped by here on our East->West drive through Pictured Rock Lakeshore. Loved the views, particularly from the upper viewpoint. Particularly nice that minimal walking is needed to get to the (upper) look-out point.

It is well worth the stop to Miners Castle and the entire Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The views of the rock formations and the waterfalls are outstanding

If you will be in the area a day or two, I would recommend viewing "the castle" from land first via a short hike, then if time permits cruise past it on a tour boat or a kayak. You get such a different perspective from the water side.
There are educational signs and restrooms with flush toilets in the vicinity. There is also a beach nearby. Miners Falls is further and better reached by car.

I have been here a few times in my life. Although it is a beautiful place, I was sad to see that it is deteriorating more and more each time I see it. The two "towers" at the top have fallen since I have been there last. If you walk out to the Rock, you are afforded beautiful views of the coastline. Well worth the visit.

We were a little time constrained on this day so decided to driver to Miners Castle. This was an excellent natural visitor attraction with facilities in the car park. Quite a steep but well managed path descends to the viewing points but this is well worth the visit for the fantastic scenery.

Great time snowmobiling in to see Miners Castle Rock covered in snow and ice. Park facilities were closed due to government shut down but still had access to view.

We saw this on the pictured rocks boat tour no need to walk to it and we got really good pictures along with many other destinations so worth it

We saw Miners Castle Rock on our recent trip to Lake Superior and the colors in fantastic. The water's blue-green color was very pretty. It is a very easy walk from the parking lot to the lookout point to see it.

Everything is very spread out in the Upper Peninsula, it feels as if the roads could go on forever, so many opportunities for adventure, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a must see, and Miner's Castle is a highlight of this! I recommend going early am or about 45 minutes before sunset! This is a very popular tourist attraction through out the day, so any time works but the light is beautiful near sunset here. Miner's Beach is also not far from Miner's Castle and while very windy there on the beach shoreline, is an excellent place to take in a sunset after checking out the late afternoon sweeping views from above of Miner's Castle. Nearby there is Log slide/dunes and several waterfalls to check out so you can make an entire day trip plan and see multiple landmarks near Miner's Castle. So pretty!

Great place with some great views. Very easy hike with some beautiful views. I would recommend checking this place out with 2 different viewing areas.

We drove out to Miners Castle, in drizzling rain, to see the famous shoreline and the stars aligned: sunshine and turquoise waters, pleasant breezes. The wooded hike to the Castle was beautiful. Even though there were a lot of cars in the parking lot, it didn't feel too crowded. Worth an hour if you're in the area.

We saw from the cruise, and also hiked up from the beach. Very easy to get to if you drive to it, though. Moderate hike up from the beach, which is also a very nice way to sit and relax.

The rocks and lake shore are very scenic and pretty. But what made our trip was the short drive down to the beach area. Wonderful sandy beach with great views of the cliffs, great place to go kayaking from if you want to do that. We have 3 small kids and they loved the beach area. The lake water was very cold but lots of room on the beach to play, we took a great walk and the forest comes all the way down to the beachfront, making it very pretty. Great facilities all around and we loved it.

Beautiful place to visit with breathtaking views! A little bummed we couldn't go on the rock itself, but still a great time!

This is a super simple walk down to an epic view of the pictured rocks lakesure. Totally a must see!

The views to Miners Castle from the overlooks are still fantastic. Be advised that the road to Miners Beach is currently closed as they are rebuilding the bridge over Miners River. However, the road to Miners Falls is still open

Outstanding place to visit. Very short and easy walk to an overlook. Walking is difficult. So, we appreciate places with good access. It is definitely a place that you don’t want to miss when visiting the UP.

The view of miners castle rock is exactly what you see in all the pictures! Beautiful! The hike to the Overlook might be considered moderate to some as you had to climb up some steeper banks and over some tree roots. But if you’ve hiked in Glacier or other mountainous parks- this is easy! I did not think the lower Overlook was worth the walk down.

We passed through Muninsing on our way home and decided to stop at Miners Castle since we didnt have time for a boat tour. It is easy to access, has good parking and an area for cars with trailers. There are 3 observation decks, the first is close to the parking lot, paved and even wheel chair accessible. THe secnd is a shortways down a paved path. The third is a further walk and would probably not be good for elderly people as it is uphill the entire way back up.
The views are breathtaking! Miners Castle is a very cool rock formation and worth going to see. But the real highlight to me was the water and the shoreline. Pictured rocks is an amazing natural wonder, you really should see it from the water side if possible. But here the waters are so clear and the blues and greens as they blend into the earth tones of the rocks in so beautiful. The waters of Lake Superior are almost like being in a Carribean setting (minus the pine trees).

Good access from a parking lot with facilities to see Miners Castle, and then a short walk to another closer overlook. Then we got to see it from a catamaran Cruise. Beautiful!

This is an iconic spot situated in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park. The viewing points are just a short walk from the parking lot, so there is not a lot of hiking like there is in other parts of the park. The view is amazing! The water is turquoise and green... it looks like the Caribbean.

Beautiful area with a great view. Wonderful scenic walk with the family. Second time to the area and always very pretty.

After we looked over the edge and gasp at the beauty...we just stayed on the overlook to enjoy watching other people's reactions when they looked over for the first time. It reminded us of the gasps when we visited the Grand Canyon! OH MY - SO EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL! AWESOME blues in the water and the water splashing up against the rock bluff, and the water going through the sea cave...it was mesmerizing! Nice parking lot, paths are well groomed. Path to upper viewing area is not steep. Restroom available near parking lot.

Spectacular views. A great way to see Gods Creative beauty. I highly recommend it. Tss as or the time to hike!

Famous view was worth it! Easy path to see the rock and the lower path you can get right up to it. Went to the beach below after

Nicely laid out park facilities to walk through, affording a good vantage point for a limited view of Picture Rocks. Good restroom facilities.

After we were too late to book any boats due to COVID, our hotel suggested this lookout point. Honestly saved lots of money and had a great view. Easy to get to. The walkway was a little too steep for a regular wheelchair, would need battery operated kind to get up and down. The waters are so clear it is like Caribbean water.

Munising is a quaint little town on the shores of Lake Superior. It’s a gateway to many beautiful natural things in the U.P. Including the Pictures Rocks National Lakeshore. And don’t miss the wonderful breakfast at Earl E. Byrds!!

Wow. This lookout will forever be in my mind and memories. A favorite at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The first lookout is the best and a very short walk. It's a beautiful view of Miners Castle Rock. At the last overlook you are looking at the top of the castle so really not worth the many steps to get there in my opinion. View is best at first overlook. We went back the next day because the wind was very strong so we wanted to see some wave action. It was breathtaking.

Miners Castle Rock is a short 10 mile drive from the visitor center. The hike to the upper observation area is about 300 feet. The hike to the lower observation stand is 1000 feet. While we did not have children with us, both observation platforms had a lower Plexiglas window cut out allowing children to look without being lifted up.

Be sure to take a drive to Miners Castle. There's lots of parking and it's a short walk to some spectacular views. This is the only place to see cliff views of the Pictured Rocks shoreline that's accessible by car. It's worth the walk down to the lower viewing area.

One of the few parts of the cliffs that is easily seen from a trail. Just ride about 20 minutes of so east of Munising and you'll see signs for it.

Beautiful turquoise blue water and beautiful rock formations. Relatively easy hike to it. If I can do it you can do it. Enjoy!

Family with 2 children under 5...
we enjoyed a picnic lunch then walked to the upper and lower look out areas.
Kids had fun as well as the adults. Nice relaxing afternoon:-)

Absolutely beautiful overlook! There used to be a very short walk to the upper platform where the water looks so crystal clear and the miners castle rock is clearly visible. The walk to the lower platform is a little longer and the view gives a totally different angle - much closer from the opposite side.

Miners Castle is easily accessed. You can park and walk just a short distance to see not only the beauty of the colorful rock that makes up Miners Castle, but marvel at the turquoise water of Lake Superior as it kisses the shoreline. Just breathtaking!

This is a must see from the overlook. You can see the ripple of water down below and the beautiful colored water. Then can a take a relatively short walk to lower level for a close up view of the miners castle. I have a bad knee but was able to go slow, sloped down slightly in beginning and a few stairs at the end but totally doable even with bad knee and totally worth the view

Spectacular view of secluded cove and Miners Castle from the scenic overlook. Visitors can also walk out to the point overlooking the castle rock.

I recommend taking some time to check out Miners Castle Rock at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Not too far of a walk and you can see some amazing views. Check out the photos!

Miners Castle Rock was a very short walk from the parking lot. If you are not going to take the boat ride to see the pictured rocks, then this is the place to go to to see some of the dynamic cliffs and colors of the rocks on the shore.

Great views of miners castle from several platforms. These were all easy to get to and a pretty short hike. The hike down to miners beach was much more challenging (especially in the rain) but well worth it.
This place is a definite must see.

Pretty overlooks, trails and a great educational center. Plenty of parking. Children would like this stop for sure. Excellent views from on top of the cliffs.

There are many cool places in the area and Miner's Castle is definitely one to check out. The lookout point at the top would be more handicapped accessible and shows awesome views. There is a walkway to get close to Miner's Castle which is also very nice with a different vantage point. Even though this is paved it is uneven and very steep in points so might be difficult to those with a disability. I would revisit if in the area again.

And fully paved road to get there. The NCT trailhead nearer the beach had very limited RV parking and use not suitable for trailers. Park here and hike to the TH.
The day we were there was cold and blustery, so not many people. But it's a good starting point for hikes along the lake and the view of Miners Castle is nice regardless of the weather.

This was the only part of the park we visited. Very picturesque with several opportunities for photos.

Very accessible and nice
Views of the cliffs. The formation relative to others like chapel is just ok
However this is a starting point for the hike to miners beach which is lovely and only 2 miles rt. This is also right by the falls. So worth a quick stop

Great spot to view castle rock and take pics! Easy to get to with small kids. Miners Beach is close and also a great place to stop for a beach day and view some pictured rocks and swim in crystal clear water.

Beautiful views, The viewing deck from above is breathtaking, but a short hike down to the lower viewing deck is a must. This is a great spot to stop for a few and enjoy the views.

There are multiple lookouts & the views are very pretty. It was a quick stop for us, maybe were only there for less than an hour. There wasn’t too much walking involved which was nice.

A neat formation to view and the walk out is very beautiful. Most of the center was closed but there were still posters that detailed the history of the area.

This is the only place to see the pictured rock shoreline without a long hike or boat ride. This is a beautiful view! A short walk w ample parking and a nice boardwalk.

There is a short walk through a forest to get to the overlook, but it is not taxing. The view is great, even on a rainy day!

Even though it’s a walk, it’s worth the effort and the uphill walk. There are benches along the path of you need to rest. The building has clean bathrooms and a water fountain.

Amazing pictures!! If you are physically able, be sure and go to the lower overlook areas. If you aren't able, you will still see some pretty views.
When we were there, there appeared to be a ranger helping answer questions for people and there were bathrooms and a water fountain. (end of June) I was thankful for the water as it was unusually hot.

This was a further walking hike than we planned for but worth it. One of the highlights of our trip with my 15, 12 & 6 year old. They older two loved climbing down to the falls.

Short hike and very scenic. Went with another fun couple and enjoyed the area. Camped about 25 minutes away at Calwell in Hiawatha National Forrest (?)

We were able to see this location by land and sea. We ended up hiking from this location to Miners Beach.

We were scheduled for the boot tour of the rocks but the weather did not cooperate, the captain said it would be rough and if you were prone to motion sickness it would not be a good day. So we got off the boat and got a full refund. Instead we drove up to Miners Castle and were able to view some of the Pictured Rocks. Worth the short trip up if you can’t get out on the boat.

The walk to the lookout is easy for all ages and abilities... our group included toddlers and senior citizen and everyone enjoyed the short walk leading to the lookout as well as the beautiful views of Lake Superior.

Nice clean restrooms. Ranger available to answer questions and explain about the falls. Path is gravel and some moderate stairs to traverse to the lower viewing area. Easy for children 5 and up. Not stroller accessible to lower viewing area.

You can view the upper and lower Miners Castle. A short drive and you can view Miners Falls and a short drive from there is 12 Mile Beach. I was impressed that all these areas have restrooms available and they were no charge to visit.

Plan a couple of days.
I did a day trip and we were Sprinting around trying to see all we could.
I would recommend spending a few days and maybe even camping out

The walk to the upper level of viewing is easy, but a long path goes down to the lower level (and you have to return). Nevertheless, I would recommend doing both as you get different views of this iconic formation.

The view from the first overlook this one of the best in all of Pictured Rocks. The little park at Miner's Castle is very pretty with very good overlooks and walking trails. The walk out to Miner's Castle is pretty easy and offers some different views. There are restrooms and some information boards at the front of the park.

This is an easy spot to enjoy a beautiful view. There is plenty of parking. The path is short and there is a boardwalk to the overview.

We spent a week in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in July of 2019. There is so much to see! Miner's Castle Rock is beautiful and only one of the many sights to see along the National Lakeshore. Being from Wisconsin I told myself I can go there anytime, but always put it off in favor of other National Parks in the country. This is an under-promoted area of our country and worthy of more than one visit.

Hiking to this feature involves walking downhill on a paved path to the overlook of the Castle Rock. Nice views of the lake from the overlook..

I recently stopped to see all of Miners Castle Rock, Miners Beach, and Miners Falls on my recent visit to the U.P. on a Monday. I always really enjoy stopping at Miners Castle Rock following my Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise. This is one of the only rock formations that is accessible by car and then by foot that is pointed out on the boat, so it is nice to then see it up close. There were lots of people visiting when I was here, but I attributed that to the beautiful weather, and I still enjoyed my time here. There are some beautiful views of Lake Superior from here, and the water is just beautiful with its clear bluish-green color! The formations are easily accessible with some nice trails. There are also restrooms available at this sight. I also enjoy walking out on Miners Beach and going to see Miners Falls when in the area. All of these stops are worthwhile, and the scenery is beautiful at all of the "Miners" areas. This is another great stop along the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. I would recommend seeing Miners Castle Rock!

I went with my family on the hiking trail on the top of the pictured rocks. It was a very long trail but had been very well maintained. The hike was worth the view!

Gorgeous stop along route to our hike at Mosquito Falls. The views were fabulous! Such a gorgeous place. We'll be back!!

We had to take a detour this year due to road work but we made it. We checked out the upper viewing area then went to the lower viewing area. If you can handle the hike I suggest viewing the lower. It brings you right there. The hike is not bad but for some people it could be hard.

This place is a very nice attraction that I would not miss if you are in the area. It is an easy walk to beautiful lookouts. Good picture opportunity.

This is a must see stop while in the area. Yes, everyone has a photo from here but it is very beautiful and you should see it for yourself.

This is really not a stand alone "things to do" it is one of the feature parts of the Picture Rocks National Lakeshore. It is one of the highlights of the park often featured on advertising for the park and Munising area. It is quite nice on its own but is only accessible through the park or from the water. It is the first significant formation you get to from the water. It is accessible in the winter also Via snowmobile trails only.

Short easy walk/hike to the viewing platform for spectacular vistas. If you visit on a windy day, be prepared for the wind to take your breath away as you approach the viewing platform railing.

Castle Rock is an inexpensive wonderful hike up steps to a wonderful view of the UP on the Lake Huron side.

Great view. Easy walk. What you see in the pictures is what you get. The top view is the quick walk and is actually better. The lower view is nice but not as scenic. Pretty much you see what's in the picture. The park service has done a great job protecting the natural formations so you are limited to the same view as everyone else due to the decks. But it's worth it!

Easy walking to both decks. Pictures don't do it justice. Much more amazing in person. Paved upper deck. Paved with stairs lower deck.

This location was part of a grand road trip.. An easy walk to a good vantage point to see the west end of the pictured rocks.

We went on a boat ride and saw castle rock from there so we’re excited to walk to it the next day. The wind was horrible but it was still neat to see from that perspective.

Checking out Miners Castle Rock from the 2 Observation points is an easy walk and definitely worth seeing from the land. Make sure you see it from the water too!

While we were in town we had light rain every day. The walk is paved, close to the parking lot, and very easy. The views are stunning. This is a must visit when in town. Due to the short walk, the rain didn't bother us too much.

First thing you need to know is that Miners Castle is not a castle but a rock formation. It is pretty cool to see, but the real fun is the hike from the observation area down to the beach. There are also easier ways to get to the beach like parking closer. If you plan to go to the beach don’t take this route because it is over a mile long with some hills, but if you want a fun hike this path is for you. Probably not fun to hike with children.

Really pretty. VERY busy on our visit in early August.
There is a high and low scenic overlook. Plenty of free parking and public restrooms.

It was this particular view that convinced me that we needed to take our family to visit Pictured Rocks this summer during our family vacation. The view didn't disappoint and is just stunning!

This was a very beautiful place, make sure you take the time to see it and not hurry to where you are driving too.

Our experience wasn't a 5 due to the weather, but hey, we did what we could. All the boats were cancelled during our stay but we walked to Miners Castle Rock overview, and it was spectacular! We could see the Pictured Rock's shoreline, too. Just amazing. We also walked to a waterfall nearby. Can't remember the name. We will return for sure.

Our family visited the the overlooks and hiked to Miners Beach (there is a parking lot with a short walk for those who don't want to adventure through the woods). The entire experience was amazing. The views from Miners Castle are amazing. Don't miss. You can even take your dog through the viewing areas (but not on the trail to the beach).

We saw the Miner's Castle rock when on the Pictured Rock cruise. It was fabulous- it looks like a castle and has underwater caves. You can also hike to an observation point at the top. (not from the cruise)

Take the time to visit this area. Beautiful view from the platform after an easy walk through the woods.

An easy walk/short hike. The view is unbelievable! If you take the cruise to see pictured Rocks at least visit this place to complete your trip.

There is a decent sized parking lot here and an easy walk to a viewing platform. You can also walk a little further down a paved path to see Miner's Castle from different angles.

The weather didn't cooperate with us on our stay so we didn't get to do the kayak trip we had scheduled. But the clerk at the gas station suggested we go for the "birds eye view" from Miners Castle. It's a very nice park (parking was crowded). We also did the mile hike to the beach. Some of the hiking trail is a big rugged if you are not stable on your feet. Lots of roots and at a couple spots a steep decline (and then incline on the way back). It was a very nice hike and the view from the beach was excellent!

A well maintained state park. Something for most abilities. Quick, easy walk to view the rock formation from above and an option for a longer walk - to see other spectacular views of the cliffs. Lots of interpretive signage.

Platform is a short walk from the parking lot. If you want, you can go further down a trail to a lower viewing platform. There is a steep trail and stairs involved in that venture.

Did a UP tour of the falls and saw this along with the falls. The colors were beautiful. I had never been there but would go again.

Well worth the short hike this is a beautiful remote beach with crystal clear waters. A bit cold for swimming but a perfect remote beach for sun bathing! You just have to go if you are in the area and going to Pictured Rocks.

This is located about 5 miles east of Munising on Alger County Road H-58. Then go north 6 miles.on Miners Castle Road (H11). Miners Castle is the only place you can see the pictured rocks from the shore & it is the only cliff area in the park accessible by vehicle. From the parking lot, a short paved foot trail leads past interpretive exhibits to overlooks that have breath taking views of Lake Superior & Grand Island. Stairs & a steeper trail lead to the lower overlook adjacent to Miners Castle. You need to come here if you are in the area.

We saw this from above as well as by the boat tour and was not disappointed! Amazing how this does look like a castle. Be prepared to do some walking while in the park as it is all worth it!

Beautiful hiking trails leading to beautiful, breathtaking views of the shoreline an the painted rocks. Multiple lookouts to enjoy. Spend an hour, or two, or three here. You won't regret it.

This is a must-see spot on the drive through Pictures Rocks. It's a short walk out to the viewing platform from the parking lot. There are restrooms here. Great views of the Castle, as well as the lake. We had a windy day with some nice whitecaps coming in to shore.

No words to describe. Breath-taking view, nicely maintained pathway, relatively simple hike to the observation deck.

Well worth the drive out here. The views are cool and the trails are long and beautiful. It gets very windy here so pic a warmer day.

Located about 5 miles east of Munising on Alger County Road H-58, then 6 miles north on Miners Castle Road (H11). The drive is easy.
Miners Castle is one of the most famous landmarks along the Pictured Rocks shoreline, and is the only cliff area in the park accessible by vehicle.
From the parking lot, a short paved foot trail leads past interpretive exhibits to breathtaking overlooks of Lake Superior and Grand Island. Stairs and a steeper trail lead to the lower overlook adjacent to Miners Castle. It was not difficult to walk on but could be difficult for someone very out of shape. However, it was not far so a person could take it slow. The view is beautiful. You can only get so close because of the fences. The rock formation was amazing.

The day we went was super cloudy and grey, but it was still breathtaking. Looks exactly like the photos. My husband the photos were from Google when I sent them.

There's a great park here to visit. Lots of parking and nice facilities to walk around. A good bit of exercise as well.

Miners castle provides a beautiful view and I easy to reach via car or trail. The after below is amazingly clear which is great to look at.

The stop at the observation deck to view Miner's Castle is beautiful, and easily accessible for all, except those with a significant disability. Definitely worth the stop, as many of the vantage points require a significant hike (> 2 miles) to view.

I think my most gorgeous photos from our trip are from this overlook on our last day. And that is saying something because all the photos are beautiful. No overlook ever again will compare to this one. Make sure this is on your list.

Their are trails, but the two lookout points aren't too much walking to see Lake Superior. This is worth the time to drive up. See a couple of waterfalls in the area as well.

A bit steep, but a short/easy hike for beginningers to take in some serious U.P. beauty. Make sure to bring your camera and wear walking shoes!

Great views. Easy to get to. Would visit again. Not much else to say, other than the fog comes and goes quite often.

This is a must-see! The viewing platform is a short walk from the parking lot. There are bathrooms and shaded areas with picnic tables. Highly recommended!

One of the more memorable sites of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The views are just amazing. Look forward to the return.

Must see the Miners castle!! The stone and water is breathe taking. Make sure to go to both overlooks. Also a great stop because there is a little visitor center with flushing toilets!!👍🏻👍🏻

Something that is a must see when visiting Pictured Rocks. The stairs and ramps down to Miners Castle are nicely laid out, not to strenuous of a walk to go up or down. Its definitely worth the effort.

Super easy to access so everyone is there. View is pretty from all three platforms so if that’s what you’re looking for you’ll enjoy it. If you want more nature and fewer people, head to the waterfall instead.

The upper platform offers great views of Lake Superior and Castle Rock. The walk down to the lower platform is about .25 miles and the view is of the top of the rock. If you have a hard time getting around you won’t miss much of you skip the lower observation point.

All that can be said is "WOW" "WOW" "WOW". One very beautiful site to see> A must visit!! Be sure to dress correctly, the wind is very strong in this area!! Also make sure you see the marker that shows how it used to be & how it is today!

A great spot to stop with a birdseye gorgeous view. Easy access. Short walk. Plenty of parking. Restrooms and plenty of information at this location.

Miner’s Castle Rock is a must see from the trail or from a boat. From the trail, there is a decent parking lot and a bathroom with a little visitor information area. There’s a quick walk on the left to the overlook, which has a gorgeous view of a Caribbean blue water looking cove. Then off to the right is a longer walk that actually takes you down to Miner’s Castle Rock (which is what the overlook was looking at). It’s not a hard hike at all, it’s a sloping paved path with railings, but it’s going to take a few minutes and it will involve an uphill return. Here you get a close up view of the pillars of rock formed at the point of the land. There is no safe way down to the water from here, signs explicitly say not to attempt a climb.

Went here after the Riptide Ride as it was one of places we saw while on the boat and wanted to further inspect. There are short fences that a child could jump over so keep an eye on your small children. We decided we wanted to go the Miners Castle Rock Beach after. The walk back from on top of the Miners Castle was a work out but we felt accomplished when we got to our car.

Stopped back to visit on the drive through the UP after first visiting a few years ago. While it is a nice spot, my initial impression that the apostle islands are a better destination remains intact. That said it is certainly worth visiting. Modern bathrooms are closed at the overlook, need to use pit toilets while visiting here. Also no water so make sure to have your own.

Easy drive, Easy parking and short distant, beautiful scenery. At this point, we already have been visiting U.P for 5 days, after the days before worth of walking around I was not ready for a hike and thankfully so I was blessed with easy access to view the miner's castle rock, really enjoyed how peaceful it was, finding parking was fairly easy... I would recommend going early in the day to beat the traffic flow for these types of attractions.! Can't wait to see it again!!

I would definitely recommend a visit to Miners Castle for anyone visiting or passing through the Munising area. It is very easy to find; at the end of Miners' Castle Rd off of H58. There is a spectacular view from the main viewing platform by the parking lot and it's very easily accessible for everyone. We took a little time and walked on trails to the east and west of the main platform. The trails do have some steeper inclines and may not be for everyone, but they certainly are not difficult. Even if you only have a little time be sure to include a stop at this sight. There are also nice restroom facilities available here.

Quick stop, short walk. Fantastic view of lake superior. There are multiple viewpoints to see miner's castle. See the
Miners falls while your nearby.

Great stop to see Pictured Rocks, Miner’s beach, Miner’s fall and from a distance, Bridalveil all in one trip. If you’re trying to get a quick view of what Pictured Rocks has to offer, this is a good way to do it. There is minimal walking to most of the look outs which is good for all ages, but there is some hiking available to those of us who like a little more adventure.

A glorious view! The hike was easy so be sure to try it. The weather was windy and the water was choppy on the day of our visit. But the view was still spectacular! There are 2 observation points. The lower observation point is a path through the woods and the view isn’t stunning as my second photo notes.

Miner's Castle is a rock formation along the shore of Lake Superior in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
It can be seen in two different ways, either by land (which I have not done) or from the lake, which I have.
The first time I visited the formation had both "towers," however, on this visited one of them had collapsed. It looks very interesting from the water side. If you go by land you can actually walk on to the remaining parts of the top section.

Easy walking paths and viewing areas. Water and bathrooms available. Nice aewa for a picnic too. Couple of viewpoints that are beautiful to see.

It was a easy walk to the upper viewing area from the parking area. Beautiful view in the winter. It was easy to find.

The walk from the parking lot is easy. There is a nice overlook where you can see out over Lake Superior for miles. The water appears to be blue-green and looks so pretty at sunrise. Definitely a must see view.

The path from the parking lot to the upper viewing platform is super-short & easy, & the view of Miners Castle & the cliff faces is amazing. The path to the lower viewing platform is downhill switchback, with some stairs at the bottom. Still an easy walk, and totally worth the different perspective of the Castle rock itself. Stunning! Note that the information center is not staffed, but there are a number of interesting displays & it is worth an extra few minutes of your time. Also, note that the restrooms at the information center are closed, but a vault toilet is available down a short spur trail between parking lots. The North Country trail also passes through this area.

What a lovely place. Never realized how gorgeous this part of Michigan is. I highly recommend this place and all the pictured rocks area. You must swim the envigorating Lake Superior.

Castle Rock was a beautiful sight to see the walk from one end to the other with many pictures to be taken.

Miners Castle Rock is - OK. We went there on a sunny afternoon in the middle of the week, and it was quite crowded with visitors. There are flush bathroom facilities that are nice, ample parking, and room to spread out. We enjoyed walking down to the Castle Rock - BUT- this is just the tip of the iceberg for the Pictured Rocks - 99% of its beauty is hidden from shore. If you're going to come all the way up here, splurge $20/person on a tour boat ticket or rent a kayak and see the actual Pictured Rocks! Its well worth it, and the Castle Rock, while attractive, really doesn't give you an idea for how beautiful these rock formations really are, and how they go on and on for miles.

Fun for the entire group! Nice view of Pictured Rocks too! Lots of history. Must see if you are in the area.

Breathtaking views! Probably the best way to see the cliffs other than from the water. Agree with others that this is a must if you are in the area.
There is a nice trail leading from Miners Castle Rock to Miners Castle beach, 1 mile each way with some climbing on the way back, but not too difficult. If you decide to go make sure you wear good hiking shoes and have some mosquito spray with you.
There are clean bathrooms next to the parking lot. But no drinking water was available - take water with you. Also, you may want to pack lunch - this are a lot of picnic tables available

A great place for shooting pictures, Easy to get to, easy getting around, Don't be stupid and stay where your supposed to be.

We saw Miners Castle Rock from the water on our Sunset Cruise. We saw it from the water , but I believe that you can hike to it. Very striking!

Make sure to pick up a park map to find how to access this! Also Miners Beach is close - allows you to get to the shoreline of Lake Superior.

This rock formation is only a short walk from the parking lot. Really pretty. You can see part of the painted rocks from this point. Great picture spot!

This is one of the few natural attractions you can visit without a hike of any sort. You can park in the lot, walk about 50 yards, and be on the overlook platform. We were there around sunset and it was amazing.

We visited Miners Castle Rock on a beautiful Summer, Wednesday in August. We had seen photos of this rock, but we wanted to see this in person. It didn’t disappoint. The observation deck that looks over the little cove below and the Miners Castle Rock gave very good views. There were a lot of people on the observation deck when we arrived. We were patient and waited for our turn to get to the edge and look down. People seemed to move pretty quickly. What we saw… WOW! So picturesque! The water was beautiful! The color reflection of the water really made this an amazing sight to see. Below on the water, you could see boats and people swimming in the water under Miners Castle Rock.
Once we were done appreciating the view from the main observation deck we walked out and to the left down a path that lead us to another winding path that takes you closer to see Miners Castle Rock. Do It! It gives you another chance to see amazing views of the Lake Superior Coast and Miners Castle Rock. This was a very good stop! So glad we drove this far north to be able to see these amazing sights.

Albeit, this is an unusually low winter snowfall, we were able to drive to the parking area. A short walk to the viewing deck led us to a breathtaking winter view of the beach, cliffs and castle rock.

It was a great little hike, the trail was amazing. We were glad we fit this adventure into our time here!

clean restrooms, well posted signs including general information, directions and distance. Beautiful and well maintained

Beautiful from the lake or on ground. Nice walk down to the chapel or you can stay at the top and look out. Well worth the time.

This is a must see, especially if you were not able to get a ticket for a Pictured Rocks Cruise. The views are stunning, and the walk to the upper overlook is very easy. It is a 1,000 ft. walk to the lower overlook and that is also quite nice.

Worth the 10 mile drive from the town. The road back is well paved and generally straight. The turn-off to miners fall is down the road too. Nice parking area. We visited before tourist season so parking lot was pretty empty. I can see it becoming full during prime season.

Stop to see while on our motorcycle trip, weather was perfect picture turned out great with the blue sky's and blue water! The roads getting there are fun lots of turns.

Our family didn't have time to take the Pictured Rocks boat tour so we made sure to stop here. It was awesome!!! The kids (12, 11, 7) even really liked it! I highly recommend stopping if you are in the area. The boat tour would be best but it's two hours long and we chose to do the glass bottom ship tour instead.

There are a couple different observation areas with beautiful views. The walk to each viewing area is short. There are bathrooms here so that is the main reason we decided to stop here. I'm not sure I would stop here again just for the views though.

Miners Castle is a short walk from parking area and a must see if you are in the area. There are pic nic tables and bathrooms here.

Definitely get a map and drive to the top of the overlook. Very pretty and there are walking trails. (If you have fast busy kids then the overlook may not be for you!)

Really worth the visit for anyone who appreciates creation's natural beauty. It was not a bad hike to view.

This was the highlight of our trip, and seeing it from land is much more beautiful than seeing it from water.

We took the boat ride and saw this from a distance and were amazed
at all of the beauty on Lake Superior but I wanted to hike and see from
the land as well so we did that............more beauty.. I LOVE so much
all God's amazing creations...........the ART in these cliffs is astounding

Miners Castle is one of the most popular destinations of Pictured Rocks national Lakeshore because of the beautiful scenery and easy access. Yellow sandstone cliffs protrude into clear blue water from forest. Easy trial is alone the lakeshore, people hike there at all age, but there are some stairs, not wheelchair accessible. Kayaking is popular there, down to the water level to see those sea caves. Picnic area and restrooms are available. This area is dog allowed so our 4 legs friends can hike with you. Parking can be limited on the site on summer weekend, but many cars are parked along the road for a short walk. Miners Falls and beach are both in a short driving distant.

This was by far the most beautiful area that we experienced during our whole trip! I didn't know there was such beautiful fresh water in the U.S. My favorite U.P. slogan is "unsalted and shark free." I love it! This is definitely a must see!

You walk from the parking lot to the viewing area. Not far. But you get to the area look to the right n see a pile of rocks not sure how it got it’s name. We took Cruise tour n it looks better from the water.

Try and get on the high trail that goes along the beach. better scenics but it can be steep in places.

A couple of short walks to views of Miners Castle. The walk to the formation itself is steep but paved.

Pretty cool rock formation sticking out into lake Superior. Has a nice viewing area overlooking the lake and you can hike down near the rock formation.

We arrived just before sunset and got beautiful pictures. The view is breathtaking. Definitely worth a stop!

Don't miss this if you are in Munising. Beautiful both from land and Lake Superior. Well marked, too, which is something you can't say about most points of interest in the UP.

This was an amazing tour even though we were not able to see the ice caves. It had recently snowed and the hike would have been thru 3’ of snow so we spent the entire time at castle rock. We had a beautiful view of the rock, the blue ice and the huge icebergs below! We had to hike thru a little deeper snow but it was very manageable for the amazing shots. On a side note ice cleats and goggles were our savior!!!!

We got out of the car and maybe walked 1/4 mile. The top viewing area you can see some cliffs and if you look to the right and see rocks in a formation of a castle. Then there is a lower view but I didn’t think it was the best area. I would of liked a write up at what you were looking at.

Drove to Miners Castle and walked to see it. A very easy walk to see. Also saw it during our cruise as well. The beauty of the colors of the water and rocks is absolutely stunning! A must see for sure!

This was a nice little adventure to go and experience. Beautiful views, both from looking down at the rock, and from farther down, where you are looking out at it. Done delay, go today!

Easy hike, great views! The walk from the parking lot was really easy and the views were fantastic. The Park sign was the best compared to other entry points, so grab a picture, you won't get another chance.

easy to walk to and great view of castle like cliffs. The view of Lake Superior is tremendous. one of the better sites in the Munising, Michigan area

This was a short, easy walk to see a very pretty vista. The rock was kind of ho-hum, but the walk was pleasant.

We spent a pleasant morning at Miners Castle Rock, Miners Beach, and Miners Falls which were all located close to each other not far from Munising. All are located up Miners Castle Road off Alger County Road H-58.
The rock formation named Miners Castle Rock is an interesting site that can be seen a short walk from the parking lot. It is the only cliff area in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore that is accessible by vehicle. A short, paved wheelchair-accessible path leads to the upper iconic view of Miners Castle Rock. A lower view is nearby down a steeper path with stairs. A short stop is worthwhile.

Jaw dropping view! A must see if in the area...short trek that is so worth it! Any time of the day would be great for pictures!

Excellent rock formation (has changed a bit over the decades) with a gorgeous view of Lake Superior. No wonder they built a road through the wilderness to get out there! Well worth a stop. There are 2 overlooks and interpretive signs.

The view is breath-taking. There are opportunities for a hike down to the beach. Lake Superior is the only lake in the world where you can see seven shades of blue (depends on the sun and shade).

This place is amazing for its views and clean beach. My Kids loved swimming at this beach and picking rocks.

This place is near to parking. Not at all any trekking required(200ft). you could see an amazing view of the nature. There is also a beautiful beach other side. amazing to relax. drive other side, very close too

Great place to take a lot of pictures. Take along some water and a snack or two. If the weather is iffy one might take a rain jacket just in case. We visited in the second week of September and the weather was great.

Take a little hike to see this phenomenal sight! There is a paved trail that makes for an easy walk to see this beautiful scene. A must see in the area! You really aren't going to believe that you are in Michigan when you see the water!

It had just rained when we got there but that was OK as we could still see the colored pictured rocks and formations. Definitely will go back.

One of our stops along the coast with our dog. Great view and an easy trek with the pooch. The paths are paved which makes it convenient for all.

I went with a photo group and was not excited about viewing from the top. But that may just be me.. Rock and water are beautiful.

Sure you can buy postcards with THE perfect picture, but why do that when you can easily duplicate the view and include yourself or a family member in the shot?

Can get a beautiful view of it all without having to do any steps. However, if you’re able to do a few steps you can get even more spectacular views. Worth the drive!

This is one of the few places to experience the beauty without taking a boat ride. The water was such beautiful colors as was the rocks.
Day trip
What a breathtaking view. The waters are so clear its really amazing. Easy walking paths to walk around.
