2 of 41 Best Attractions in Salida

IF you have 30-45 minutes you can get a tram ride and a 360 view of the snow capped mountains that are all around you in the state but hidden by hills.

Great views, all the way to Pikes Peak. The picnic at the top was not a good idea, too windy and no tables. Wild flowers were beautiful and some snow was still there.

This is a great little attraction for the whole family. The tram turned 50 years old this year. The tram cars are antiques, but they add to the experience as you feel like you have been transported back in time as you take the trip up the mountain to 12,000 feet. The view at the top is magnificent and the staff and the top and bottom of the tram are kind and helpful. Take a jacket...it is almost always windy and cool at the top. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids. It is rare to find an inexpensive attraction like this that everyone enjoys. I highly recommend it!!

We found the gondola operators very personable and able to give suggestions about nearby attractions as well. The ride to the top is very short, but the views from the top incredible. You are able to see mountain ranges from various states. Excellent opportunity for pictures. Wear a light jacket as it is windy and cooler up top. You can redeem your gondola ticket for a bag of popcorn at the gift shop. A yummy treat for the continuation of your journey. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Inexpensive and the people running it are very nice. At the top you see unforgettable views. We got to play with our grandkids in some snow. You can walk around and enjoy the scenery. It can get very cold and windy though.

First time to Salida and we were looking for things to do in the area. We drove up the Monarch Pass to go on the tram. It was windy and chilly at the top, however nowhere near the gusts they can get we learned. The views atop the Continental Divide were breathtaking. We had some interesting conversation with the former owner (his daughter now owns it) while waiting for the return tram. We ran into a German boy (19 year-old) in the gift shop who was riding his bike from NY to San Francisco. The $10 per person spent was well worth it.

The scenic tram was a fun, affordable, and accessible experience to enjoy the mountains near Salida. The views are amazing, and the staff was very accommodating. The free popcorn was a treat, too. Thanks for the wonderful excursion.

The shop is full of great stuff and worth a look. The tram is fun and the view is great from the top. The staff is very friendly.

The views from the top of the mountain are amazing. I was scared to death during the tram ride up. It was a windy day and the tram car was swaying quite a bit. It was well worth it once we got to the top. Amazing. We had tried to ride this tram twice before and it was closed for bad weather. Cold and windy on top of mountain.

We decided to ride the tram up to the top of Monarch Crest. We had been here numerous times but had not ridden the tram. Staff was very friendly. Views were extraordinary. We were able to spend as much time at the top as we wanted. Stood right on top of the Divide! Highly recommended.

If you are traveling thru Monarch Pass and its a clear day - take the tram and your camera. Some of the best views at 12,000 ft. You can see Pikes Peak and all the mountains in a 360 degree view. Bring your jacket. We took great pictures and rated this one of our favorites on a trip across CO.

Great trip up the mountain, and I am a former agoraphobic! It was so beautiful that the fear never came. Such a beautiful payoff at the top - awe-inspiring beauty!

We did the Pikes Peak train last Summer and this was really much better! The drive through Monarch Pass was beautiful. The tram is a short ride up, with 360 degree views. You can stay in the lookout and venture outdoors and explore. The wait was minimal and the staff very friendly. One word of caution, if you struggle with altitude at all, you are not at 14,000 ft, but you are above the tree line, I believe 12500 according to the staff who helped us. My daughter had a hypoxic episode on Pikes Peak, and unfortunately did on this ride as well. Thankfully the staff let us break in line and get her down the mountain, where she quickly rebounded! (thank goodness!) Even with the drama, would recommend.

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Tram an easy ride even for those a might squeamish about heights. Outstanding views. Still snow on top in July! That was a pleasant surprise.

We enjoyed the tram and the view from the top is incredible, all for only $10.00 per person. They also offer a senior discount and the price for children was less as well.

I would recommend this tram ride to visitors of all ages. We had a delightful trip and enjoyed the maps on the observation deck that labeled the mountains we were able to see from every direction. The employees were super friendly and answered our questions about the tram itself.
Be sure to check out the gift shop, and take 51 cents for the "penny smasher"- the best souvenirs aren't always the most expensive!

Tram was closed when we stopped. They had a very good gift shop, I bought several items for Grand Kids that were on sale for a buck each. We also got some very good fudge. The Lady that waited on us was from Tennessee, and knew some of the same people we knew in her home town. The gift shop also had a nice exhibit of stuffed wild animals. Coming up and going down the Mountain the leaves were at peak, very beautiful.

Beautiful scenery. Nice area to view. Great gift shop with snacks.
Affordable and accommodating for all types of people.

Quick ride up and down and some really good photo explanations of the mountain ranges you are viewing so you can leave with a good sense of all of the mountain ranges.

The views are great! The free popcorn at the end is a great touch. The gift shop has a lot of awesome items.

As Floridians driving over the Monarch Pass we were in awe of the views. We noticed the lift and on a whim decided to stop. It was beyond anything we could have imagined or planned! What a view and even had snow flurries, again a treat for Floridians!!
The gondola is warm and a very nice ride up and back. The guys working the lift are very friendly.

The ride is short and the tram well maintained. Once on top you are in a covered and enclosed building with markers for mountain peaks to identify. The view is amazing if the weather is good and dramatic in the rain if you like storm watching.

Well worth the small price to ride the tram to the top of the Continental Divide. You can see mountains on every side. There are placards around all sides of the lookout tower identifying the mountains you see. You can walk around the tower to take pictures. We were grateful for the loaner coats because it was mighty windy and chilly at the top off the mountain. The staff were all very pleasant. Once we came down from the mountain top there was free popcorn in the gift shop. Plenty of things to see or buy and a nice snack bar. The sandwiches really were not that pricey and they were good. A very enjoyable way to spend our morning.

This was a great, inexpensive way to see some great views on top of a 12,000ft. mountain. If you don't like rides/heights, you will do fine. It is chilly at the top, even on a warm, hot day. The drive to Monarch Pass was a great added highlight.

We love views of mountains from the top and Monarch Scenic Tram did not disappoint! The 360 views are amazing! There was snow and wild flowers and storms in the distance. You can stay at top as long as you want as long as safe. We would have stayed longer but storm coming closer.

My three boys, ages 11, 9 and 6 had a great time. We rode the tram to the top, walked around for a bit and enjoyed the great views and cool breeze. Both of the gentlemen operators were very friendly and nice and willing to answer lots of questions. After spending some time at the top, we rode back down and headed to the snack bar for our free popcorn(save your tram ticket!). Our total visit time was around 2 hours which was well worth the drive over from Coaldale where we were staying.

It was windy the day we took the tram to the top. Although it was only a 10 minute ride it was a bit scary when the gondola started to sway in the gusts! Also, the gondola stops as passengers are being loaded & unloaded at the top & bottom! If I had on appropriate shoes I would have hiked the mile down. The view of the Continental Divide is worth the ride although this is not the highest point of the Divide. For $10 / $8 Seniors it was an enjoyable quick stop (about 45 mins).

It's a short 10 minute ride to the top. The gondola may stop several times as other gondolas are loaded or unloaded. You can ride up and down or ride up and walk down (2.2 miles) or vice versa.
The views are 360 degrees at the top and they have signs outlining all the mountains you can see.
In addition your ticket entitles you to a bag of free popcorn in the gift shop. š

There is a great tram...take your coat!......and it is very safe. A great tourist shop with all the stuff and wonderful fudge to boot. The staff is very friendly and the place is spotless. Plenty of parking for even the biggest rig. It's also on the continental divide.....11,304' I think. Take a break between the Pacific and Atlantic sides of our country.

Nice, easy ride to the top and an incredible view! The two mile hike down was a gradual decent, so doable for all.

Lovely drive from Salida through Monarch pass to the mountain cable car. Rice ride on the tramway to the top. Fantastic views all around of the many mountain peaks. After coming
down there is free popcorn in the very well stocked cafe/ gift shop. A great activity for kids.

I've been to Salida many times but had never taken the Monarch Tram. It really is amazing. There is gift a shop with tourist items, but also wonderful maps and books about the local area as well as the rest of Colorado. There are plenty of souvenir items, but a favorite is their homemade ice-cream. Everyone who reds the tram gets a free ticket for popcorn when they come down from the top of the mountain. The popcorn is popped through tout the day and was great! The views were incredible. This is a great outing for all age ranges.

This was a fun stop for adults and all three boys - 7,14 and 17. Pricing is reasonable plus free popcorn in gift shop. We got to play in the snow at the top and the views were incredible. Be prepared for cooler temps and low oxygen. I was out of breath quickly at the top.

Found this gem on Roadtrippers! And wow, what a find! It literally took our breath away, (coming from eastern NC!) The ride to the top can be a little scary, especially with a 30 mph wind at the top, but the view is worth every bit! Be sure to make this a part of your trip if your in the area!

Reasonably priced and a fantastic view. Great place to take travelers to get a fell for hte area. Very well stocked gift shop at the base.

I've driven through Monarch Pass numerous times in my life, but never stopped here until now. I've missed some awesome views!!!! The tram ride is fairly short, 7 minutes one way, but you get to see some amazing sights along the way. At the top, at 12,000 ft! You get almost 360 degree views and can see snow-capped mountains in the distance it seems forever. The gentlemen at both tram stops were so friendly, and made our trip a joy. Don't just drive through like I have in the past, take 30 minutes even to take in the sights, it's well worth it!!!!!! You get free popcorn too...š

If there are those who crave an incredible view, then the Monarch Scenic Tram is the place to visit. When you reach the top the vista of the mountains is spectacular. You can see to the San Juans far in the distance and enjoy a view of Monarch Ski Area or just revel in the fact that you are at about 12,000 feet in the air.
It was a great way to start our morning. We even met a couple who also live in our area so shared some interesting trivia.
A must see for everyone.

The drive up to Monarch is itself interesting. The day was totally clear, with every peak shown on the panoramas in the viewing area visible and super clear. Not many people taking advantage of the day. Quite windy - not a day to be out on the observation deck. Would be disconcerting to some but the cars are fairly close to the ground and the worst movement of the cats is toward the top. Definitely worth the time and cost.

This is a dog friendly attraction! We put our pups with us in the tram, and had a great time! The views are unbelievable! Definitely add a layer of clothing, and grab a jacket as this is the windiest place I've ever been. That adds to the experience though. We live in Salida, but it was fun to 'play tourist,' and see our valley from a totally new perspective.

I could understand why America the Beautiful was written. What a view up at 12,000 feet. I am not very fond of heights especially while riding a tram, but I loved it and the view at the top. It was very windy when we visited and even snowed. Wow, Wow is all I can saw. You have to ride the tram if you are in the area.

We probably should have waited. The mountain tops were covered with heavy rain clouds so we were unable to view anything. The tram was fine and probably would have been more fun. You do get free popcorn if you bring in your tickets to the gift shop

I take my relatives here as it offers an incredible view without hiking for those not that phsically fit.

The ride up was a little shaky due to high winds, but the staff takes extra care to make sure you are safe. The views from the top were spectacular. The Top staff provided information about each peak and answered all questions quickly. Due to wind conditions, we were not allowed outside. The gift shop is well stocked and the prices are lower than other attractions we have visited. The staff at the shop are also very friendly.

We didn't learn about this place until that morning and so glad we went. The drive up to Monarch Pass was beautiful in itself. Tram ride puts a little excitement in your day when you're not particularly fond of heights but it was worth it! It was a clear day and the views were wonderful. Enjoyed talking to the tram operator and learning more about the area...and his lifestyle. Awesome gift shop with reasonable prices. I would recommend this adventure.

The views are amazing and the price can't be beat by other, similar gondolas in Colorado. Was happy to find full bathrooms and a water bottle filler in the gift shop that has tchotchkes for every type of tourist. Staff very friendly and helpful. Happy 50th birthday to this hidden gem!

When we arrived we heard a couple of people next to their cars grumbling on whether or not to pay $10 to go to the top. We never hesitated I'm going despite the somewhat claustrophobic feeling of climbing up the side of the mountain. If you sit backwards on your way up or down, it is quite a peculiar feeling. Once you get off at the top every single view is better than the last view. Do not go up without a good working camera or video camera with lots of film and/or batteries. interviews are simply spectacular and we were blessed to go the day after they had closed the tram due to high crosswinds. If you're going out for up along. Make sure you bring water and you might want to bring a jacket as the temperature can get quite cool, albeit did not bother me though.
The bearded man at the top of the tram man is much more friendly than the person taking your money at the bottom of the tram. I met a bunch of friendly people who also came up on the tram and we each took pictures of one another. When we come back to the area we will definitely come back to the Monarch tram so should you!

We rode up the tram expecting to find solitude but were happy to see that others had also found this gem of an experience. The views are phenomenal; the staff is very frindly, and the ride is peaceful. If you are traveling through on Highway 50, do not miss the opportunity to take a break here!

Best kept secret in the area. Unbelievable panoramic views for miles 360 degrees at very affordable rate.
Best when relatively clear sky and calm winds.

I did not know you could gain a thousand extra feet from the 11,000+ mountain pass. We had 57 mph gusts on out visit, which made the ride up exciting. The cars did very will to keep from buffeted, but one car on the line looked like Mat D's Mars escape vehicle from his movie. We enjoyed the view but we were up there on the last day of the season. "Winter is coming". The visitor center is great and well worth the visit.

American run bizz great people. Stop for a coffee or a gift, Tram to the top very affordable especially for seniors. Wear a jacket. Take 30 minutes for an amazing view. Donāt miss it

There are two pools. The first one is chilly but once you get used to it it feels good. It goes up to 24 feet and has a diving board in that section and that stinks because no one can touch in twenty-four feet. They need to make in up to 7 feet. It also has two swimming lanes. The other pool is really hot so I spent most of the time in the cool pool. The hot pool is the right depth, though. Perfect! The pool doesn't have as much chlorine as most pools do so I could open my eyes underwater. Great pool!!!

Views from the top were great! Our teenage daughters and dog also enjoyed going up! Gift shop is nice too.

Stopped by the tram on our way home from a week in Colorado. The tram is literally right to the side of the road. You park, pay your ten bucks and see the most wonderful views. We were there on a day when the owner of 20 years was running the lift. Wonderful guy, full of stories.
The tram gondolas are a little on the dated side, which adds to the thrill. The trip up is steep and full of great views. At the top is a nice lookout with maps indicating the names of all the peaks that you can see from there.
There's a gift shop at the same site which we went into for about 10 minutes. It's like every tourist trap gift shop you've ever seen. They do have food there so if you need a snack you're set.
Worth a stop.

Good price for the excellent trip up to Monarch Ridge. Much to see at the top, and awe inspiring views.

Read the reviews and had to try. Came with 5 adults and 2 kids (5 & 8yrs old) we came here right before leaving back to Texas. It was very cold and rainey and I had my debates and thought we probably weren't going to see much at the top but wow! There were a lot of clouds but it was soo windy up there the clouds would move out the way while you stayed there for a bit and you could still see beautiful views of all the other mountains! You can also hike down to a very clear lake at the bottom but with our kids we only went halfway! $10 for adults, $5 for 12 and under. Worth it! But dress very warm! It was 45Āŗ degrees and very windy at the top. Also go to the gift shop. Very reasonable and TONS of things to choose from. Staff is very nice too!

The tram, of course, is fun. If you're lucky and have good weather, the views are amazing and you can spend as much time as you'd like on top of the mountain. However, do not miss the fabulous store/snack bar at the base. They have the most beautiful clothing, souvenirs, jewelry, accessories, home decor, outdoor decor and snacks. I was blown away by the handbags/tote bags, great quality and prices and selection. Be sure to check these out; they would make wonderful gifts. The fudge is yummy, too.

To get tickets, go to the gift shop if paying by credit card. If paying in cash, go straight to the tramway. $10 per adult, $8.00 for 55+ seniors. Ride is 10 to 15 minutes depending on how many customers are getting on and off. We rode up and walked back down 2 miles, a very easy trek. Save your ticket for a bag of free popcorn at the gift shop. The scenery at the top is spectacular. At 12,010 feet, there are few places better than this to take in the awesomeness of the Rockies!

We had a great time we stayed up top for over an hour. Our group had a great time having a snowball fight. The gift shop was awesome!! Largest best stocked gift shop in the area. Snack bar had ice cream, popcorn and nachos.

A modest cost to literally get to the top of the mountain ($8 for my senior ticket). It was a clear day and, as they advertise, you could see nearly forever in all directions. Open only during the summer. The cars are closed in, so there should be minimal worries about being āup thereā above the ground on the way up and back. Both indoor and outdoor observation from the building at the upper terminus. Best view of Monarch Ski Area.

I thought is would be a tourist trap experience, and frankly was not in favor of going. I must admit that I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
The tram is reminiscent of vacations long past. Fair price, friendly operators, dog friendly too.
The family took the tram up and did the easy hike down. The views are incredible, the wild flowers were in bloom, it was a highlight of the weekend. Should you find yourselves in the area this is truly a "must do"

We weren't sure about coming here, but was glad that we did. There is a large gift shop at the bottom with a restaurant where you buy your tickets. Then walk to the tram station next to it. The ride to the top takes 8 minutes. There is a tower with observation deck on top. You can also walk out to a cement square. If someone takes your picture on the square from the observation tower, you have a panoramic view. It is very windy out at that square. I had to hold my glasses so the wind didn't blow them away. We could only stay out there for a few minutes. But a cool spot.

The Scenic Tram is alright. Beautiful views. A little pricey for the facilities up top. $10 bucks a pop. More like 5. The gift is HUGE. If you are passing though you should stop but if you have done something like this before, keep going.

I get a little nervous on rides like this, and this was no exception, because it is quite high in the mountains (though probably no more than 10 feet from the ground below). The enclosed gondola rode smoothly and took only about 8 minutes to get to the top. It is windy at the top, so the gondola moved a little bit, but not much.
Once at the top, we climbed one flight of stairs to an enclosed viewing area that included pictures with all the surrounding mountains labeled, so we knew exactly what we were looking at. There is also a balcony all the way around the viewing area, which is a great spot for pictures.
This took us about 15-20 minutes round trip and cost $7, so it was an inexpensive and short break on our drive across the state. There is also a gift shop and restaurant at the bottom, but we did not try those.

I loved this adventure! My family came in from out of town, and told me about finding the tram online. I hadn't heard of it, but I thought it sounded like fun. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The ride up the mountain was a bit scary because the wind was really intense that day. The views at the top were unbelievable!! Bring a jacket, and wear warm shoes. There is snow at the top even during the summer months. The wind was like I've never experienced, but that added to the adventure of it all. The gift shop below is great, and the staff there is also friendly. Everyone who comes through Salida should ride this. I am so glad my brother found this!

My wife and I, daughter, and 2 teenage grandchildren took the scenic tram at Monarch Pass. It was very inexpensive--$10 for adults and less for seniors and children. At the top of the tram, 12000 fee elevation, there is an observatory where you can see for miles. Very pretty area and great scenery.

When crossing Monarch Pass, the tram was a great way to see the surrounding peaks. At the top is a two-story observatory building with all of the peaks identified at the windows. The day we were there it was clear enough to see Pike's Peak! Be sure to get fudge at the gift shop...it is fabulous.

This was a fun and basic gondola with spectacular views. The gondola was no frills but the operators were nice. They had coats you could borrow. it was really cold in September. The observation decks is vintage and has lots of info n the views. The gift shop was super touristy but fun!

The view on the way up was amazing. A little iffy for those afraid of heights, but they says it was fun when it was over. The view at the top was amazing. You do need warm clothes even in the summer and sunscreen. The operators were so nice and kept the waiting line entertained while getting everyone on the gondola efficiently. Bring your camera! The gift shop has fun stuff and a bargain cave. Free popcorn with your ride ticket.

It is a short ride to the top and a lovely view of the Continental Divide. The interesting gift shop is worth a look as well.

The tram itself seemed dated and not well-maintained (broken windows, peeling paint etc.) but definitely did seem safe. The tram employees were very friendly. The view is nice, but nothing extraordinary for Colorado. We've had better views from just driving and hiking: Guanella, Loveland, Independence and Cottonwood passes come to mind. Also the many ski resorts that let tourists use their lifts for views in the summer.
The gift shop is EXCELLENT, and I would return in a heartbeat just for that! I could linger there for hours. And this is not just tourist knicknacks (although there is plenty of that.) Quality jewelry, animal carvings, an amazing book selection - I could go on and on. Best gift shop I have come across in CO, with multiple rooms to explore. Just when I thought I'd seen it all, something else would catch my eye ... Plus fudge, ice cream and free popcorn if you ride the tram. Truly one of the best gift shops you'll find anywhere.

We came across this while driving over Monarch Pass and so pleased we stopped to do this. $12 adults. $10 seniors and free popcorn in the gift shop on production of your clipped ticket after the ride,
Amazing views at the top and a fun ride up. Was very windy!
A good gift shop and snack bar too.

My son and I stopped at the crest of Monarch Pass on US 50 between Salida and Gunnison, at the wonderfully old-fashioned souvenir shop and rest stop. On a whim we bought tickets for the cable car tram, a relic of the 60's.
What awaited at the top was remarkable- a 360 view of the continental divide falling away from your feet, range after range of mountains, some deep snow banks (in June!).
Set around the roof deck windows are panoramic illustrations naming the visible features.
We had been very disappointed with the tourist trap Royal Gorge has become- with fences placed to obscure the canyon view to the non-paying- so we were pleasantly surprised with the low-key, friendly treatment we got from the Monarch staff.

We stopped on our drive between Gunny and Salida. First time for my wife on the divide. Took a few photos, bought some souvenirs at the gift shop, then back on the road. If the tram was open we would have ridden it. Many years ago I mountain biked through here and loved the trails. We need to come back and camp at Monarch for a week of biking, hiking and hot springs.

I was a little nervous about riding the tram, but so glad I did the views from the top where spectacular. I couldn't get enough of the view. Hiked around a bit and the staff were wonderful, So worth the ride an the money. A must do and see.

One of those got to do things. Very friendly tram operatorsā. Beautiful view. Well stocked gift shop.

We went up to appease my son who wanted to ride something rather than all the National Park sight seeing and hiking we had been doing. The people were very nice and we did not have to wait. However, it is a short ride to the top so I felt like it was not really worth $10 a person when I had already seen great views on hikes in the area and also ridden the Breckenridge Gondolas for free. My son loved it so it was worth it overall and it was a nice view at the top. Take a jacket; it is very cold up there. They also give free popcorn at then end in order to entice you to go into the gift shop.

Tram takes you up the mountain and you can get out and hike & climb. Great views! Only $10 for adults.

We don't do "touristy" things, but decided to stop and ride the trams at Monarch Crest when we were driving by one summer day. It's slightly pricey, but you can ride up to the top and stay up there as ling as you want. You can even take your lunch! This was first built sometime in the 1960's and the trams do seem pretty old, but it seemed safe enough. (The tram operator's did seem very safety conscious!) The view from the top is really wonderful and at each window there is a panorama photo with all the peaks labelled so you know what you are looking at. The view the day we went was spectacular due to clear weather on and smoke from forest fires. The men operating the tram are very nice and helped my husband (he has MS) get into the tram since it kind of sways as people get in. The tram operators were retired guys who summer in the Monarch area and they were super chatty, full of jokes and great local info...very entertaining!! The day we went (early August) it wasn't very busy so there was no wait at all. Once you get to the top there are 10-15 steps up to the viewing platform so people with walking/climbing/balance disabilities may have a bit of a problem. This is not wheelchair accessible as there are no ramps to the viewing platform & I doubt a wheelchair would fit in the tram (common sense should tell that, but you never know...) but I do think a walker would fit into the tram and they seemed like they would allow that if there was no line, but you might want to call and ask. We didn't realize it, but we caould have parked up close to the lower tram house so my husband wouldn't have had to walk up the small hill to the entrance (we hadn't asked aobut that when we vought our tickets, but the short incline was not terribly difficult for him). Also, at some points the tram is pretty high above the gorund (as you would expect) so the tram operators do tell people which side to sit on if they have a fear of heights...very considerate. The gift shop/visitor's center is very large and very nice with clean restrooms. If you want to pay with a credit card you can only do that in the gift shop/visitor's center. I was wishing it was a little less expensive and I can't remember if they had a military/retired military discount (but it never hurts to ask) but since there were only 3 of us and it was an amazingly clear day, I would have to say it was a delightful experience and well worth the price we did pay. This is a place I would take our visitors if we were travelling together.

A jacket is recommended due to the wind. We had lots of fun looking at the different mountains from the observatory deck. The staff was very friendly and happy.

the ride was gorgeous...like the others said bring your jacket..the staff was helpful and friendly!! we completely enjoyed it, it is something you should not miss, we could see over a 100m miles!! free popcorn with your visit, and the gift shop has alot of nice stuff and snacks and fudge!! we even saw a bear!!

Well worth the 2.0 hour side trip from Salida. Go in the morning if possible to avoid windy afternoons. You can see for miles and miles and miles :)

The Mountain Viewās are breath taking. We hiked up with a baby and a twelve year old and it was a lot of fun for both.

Reasonably priced tram ride up to the top of Monarch Mountain where you will be treated to an unbelievably gorgeous 360-degree view of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Bring a jacket or hoodie (even though it is warm down below) because it will be breezy and chilly.

We enjoyed the tram ride experience and the beautiful view at the top. The attendants everywhere were super informative and helpful!

We stumbled upon this place by accident- my family absolutely loved the lift ride up the mtn - and my little dog too !!! People who ran this place were super nice and friendly and really were helpful to suggest local places to explore too !! So glad we stopped here - was one of our favorite places on our cross country trip !!

A nice, quiet diversion for a while. The tram to the top is nothing great, just a ride to the beutiful scenery. Very windy the day we were there. The view is what still takes natives like us, our breath away. That is worth the price.

Helpful friendly staff easy getting $15 ticket, in out of four persons gondola
Picture perfect day, 72f sunny base, 39f windy top
Immediately felt light headed getting out of my car, parking lots at 11,000 feet ASL. My home in NC, 300!?
Just took it slow marveling at a local couple that had hiked run not tram ride to 12,000 ASL top!

It's a little off the beaten path but worth the drive. Spectacular views from the top of the tram, and free popcorn too!

We rode the Tram up and hiked down. Beautiful views, bring a jacket it is windy and cold. The hike down is easy and don't forget your free popcorn in the gift shop. The gift shop is great with a variety of souvenirs and the food is great! We were there at least 2 hours, including Tram ride and visiting the gift shop.

Great view and not expensive. It was fun seeing Monarch Ski area from this location. I had skied Monarch for years and just had to give up skiing due to OLD knees last year. 60 plus years without an injury was probably enough.

This tramway to the top of the summit was built in the 1960's and it looks like it hasn't been updated since. The wooden buildings at the bottom and top need some maintenance and paint, but the tramway itself looks to be in good shape. This isn't a high-volume attraction, which is a nice change from most rides like this. It costs $10 for an adult and $8 for a senior 55+, and it is certainly worth that much. Your ticket gets you a free bag of fresh popcorn in the nearby gift shop. Of course, that's to get you into the shop in the first place, but there's no pressure to buy anything. The guys operating the trams are extremely friendly and helpful. They're about the nicest people we encountered at any tourist stop. The women in the large gift shop were also very nice.
All there is at the top is a rickety observation tower above the station and you can walk out to a concrete platform a short distance away if the weather is good. The view is, of course, spectacular if it is clear. It was somewhat cloudy the day we visited, but we could still see the mountains in the distance, so it was worth the trip. The cars hold up to six people, but they don't make you share with strangers.
There are restrooms, food and gifts sold in the large shop across the parking lot, so this makes a nice place for a pit stop on the way through the mountains. It is located astride the Continental Divide at just above 11,000 feet.

Small tram with seating for about 4 adults. Friendly operators. Incredible 360 views from the top with indoor and outdoor observation areas. Appears to be a trail close by as well.
Highly recommend. Well worth the reasonable fee.

I stopped at the top of the Monarch Pass for the gift shop and tram. The shop had plenty of the typical tourist stuff reasonably priced. The tram was inexpensive, the staff was friendly, and the views were great. It didn't take a long time and was a slam dunk.

Our family highly enjoyed this tram ride up the mountain. The staff was pleasant and the views were amazing.

I took the Monarch Scenic Tram over Memorial Day weekend. There is still so much snow on the mountains and this was a superb way to get to see the big picture. I was thrilled to learn that my dog could even ride up with us to the top. Staff people were incredibly friendly and we had a great chat with operator at the bottom and at the top. It was a fun experience!

We have skied at Monarch Mountain twice and really like this area. When driving through in June, we decided the tram was a must do. The ride in the enclosed tram was nice for our family but the 360° views were magnificent. The employees were very friendly and helpful.

They say it's the oldest of it's type (49 yrs). The about 8 minute trip is well worth the $10 ($8 is you're over 55). On a clear day you can make out Pike's Peak to the East and Arizona to the SW as you straddle the Great Continental Divide. You are free to explore anywhere, save the antennae arrays next to the upper tram house. The tram cars are enclosed and appear to be made of fiberglass and plexiglass. There 6 cars evenly spaced along the single, continuous cable, so when someone wants to get on or off the whole systems stops and I can find yourself hanging part of the way up or down. As someone that has actual trouble with heights I did sit facing the mountain side on the decent. Once you've made the ride you can claim your free bag of popcorn at the adjacent store/visitor center. Take a jacket, camera and binoculars.

Our family enjoyed riding the tram to the top of the Continental Divide at Monarch Crest! The views were breathtaking and pictures we got were so worth it! Plus we went at 8:30 am and were the first and only visitors on top of the mountain! The staff was so friendly and even offered us heavier jackets because it was colder than we expected at the top in July!

This tram takes one to the crest of "The Great Divide." With view from this aerie one can see vast distances. Not to be missed is the excellent gift shop at the base of the tram.

Worth the ten bucks! Can't beat the views, just make sure you dress warm, it's really cold and windy at the top!

We stopped for a rest at the top of Monarch Pass. The weather was great, so we decided to go to the top on the tram. My wife freaked a bit when the car would stop periodically to let people off or put people on. But the two-minute ride to the top was great, as the views improved with each passing second. Once on top, the maps and the observation tower offered a great experience for the tram riders. Walking around outside was fun, too. What a view! The gift shop down below is well stocked, and there's even some food available. Well worth the price of admission! I wouldn't probably go up if the weather is bad (or windy).

Friendly, helpful staff! What a great view and such a value at only $8 to ride. Be prepared, even in early summer - the temps can get pretty chilly at 12,000 feet! The Tram does have some jackets available to borrow if you don't have any.

Great views and wonderful staff with lots of info. Would highly recommend taking in this view. We had a lovely clear day and were actually able to see Pikes Peak. Which is over 100 miles away.

We had been before (about 12 years ago) but returned as it is a fun trip to do. Borrowed a coat for the ride and it was needed! Very, very windy at the top so we didn't stay long and the ride was shut as soon as we got down as it was roaring at over 50mph!

Breathtaking views! Nice gift shop and fudge Tram costs $10 for adults. Less for kids and seniors. Take it up. Car is small but safe and views are dramatic. Summer views were amazing can only imagine in Fall and Winter.
Will I Go Back? Absolutely!! Make the stop if traveling over Monarch Pass or take the short 25 mole drive from Salida.

Our timing was not the better. We had bad weather and it was a windy day and we did not have jackets, and it was cold and windy. The views were incredible. I would like to go again now in the fall when the leaves start changing. some of the leaves were turning yellow now so I will give it a couple of weeks. Overall it was a good and reasonable experience. Very friendly staff.

Some of the best views of the Continental Divide from any location in Colorado . Short ride up and no crowds or lines. Highly recommended.

A must do if in the area! Great scenic ride up the mountain and then tram ride to top is the coup de gras. The view is breathtaking and the personnel there are courteous and extremely friendly. Has a great lil gift shop. The homemade fudge is fantastic. Definitely an A+ site.

It is about a 10 minute ride each way on a smooth tram. The views are excellent. I thought we would stay just a few minutes but ended up being up there for almost an hour--once we got there we were in no hurry to leave. We were there in late July and were comfortable in shorts and t-shirts. Afterwards, take your ticket to the gift ship for a free popcorn. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip up the mountain. $10 per person, $8 for 55+, $5 for kids.

not the best view in late august, might be better earlier in the season with more snow? drive independence pass instead

I was not expecting much but figured it would be a nice view. Dogs welcome so took them with us. They were our highlight!
The dogs did well in the gondola. The gondola holds 4 people or 600 pounds. It runs every 3 minutes from spring until September. It opens 8:30-5 and May vary depending on other factors.
Tickets were $10 each adult but over 55 and kids get discounts. Dogs ride free. You can pay cash as you board or use credit card in gift shop. We received a free popcorn when we returned.
There are 2 levels at the top. The very top is more like a deck. The lower level you can walk around and the dogs enjoyed the snow which was quite deep!
It was worth the fee but not a place to spend hours.

Our large family has been here a few times, and we all enjoy riding the tram up the mountain and the amazing views. It is a great way to spend 1-2 hrs. The gift shop is a great place for souvieers!

My family and I visited this on a rainy day with heavy cloud cover. We did the tram just for the novelty of it. Actually if you drive to get to this was really cool. We took a dirt road along the old Monarch Pass and then hiked to the top of a mountain. It was with a two-year-old and six-year-old so not too difficult. At the scenic tram there was a kitschy gift shop that had all the requisite novelties and a snack bar. It was nice that the tram ride came with a free bag of popcorn. I read it this above average becauseit is not every day that you get to ride a tram up the side of a mountain! It cost $10 for adults and five dollars for kids.

We rode up in the afternoon it was cooler up top in the 50s. The upper floor of the Tram has a lot of info about what you can see here on the Continental Divide. The view from here is so expansive! We went down back side of slope and took pictures in the snow that was still left over. Other than the wind it was a great afternoon for some major site seeing.

Talk about a view!!! Tram goes from Monarch Crest lodge to the top of the mountain. From there you can see 360 degrees and there are descriptive signs on all four sides that name the mountains and landmarks. Take binoculars. Wonderful gift shop at the base.

After driving a few hours from Gunnison we decided to take a rest stop break. Wowsa, how fortunate. Only $7 a head for blue hairs and worth it to the max. Very nice folks, a gentleman from Tampa on the bottom and Bridget on the top, did the tram car honors. The sights were outstanding even tho it was a bit chilly at the top. You could walk around outside and there was a trail if we wanted to walk down Fat chance, eh. Free popcorn for taking the tram. Interesting gift shop with really good ice cream. Really a fortuitous stop. Grat stuff.

It was an exciting ride to the top of the mountain where there were great views! And they allowed our dogs to ride with us

The tram closes in early September, but we walked the access road to the. Better than paying and there are some views along the way you wouldn't get at the top. Also some great trails off the road.

We enjoy Monarch Pass. And then being able to take the Gondola to the top is kinda like the cherry on top! For $10 a person (cheaper for seniors and children) you can ride to the top and enjoy nice views. If you have any time while going over the pass this is a definite must! The guys running the life were super friendly as well! :)

It's going to be chilly as you take in views that stretch for a 100 miles!! The operators do a good job and keep you safe and the tram is always clean and well maintained....don't miss the gift shop while you are there and have your picture taken at the continental divide....11,309 if I remember right. It has a big parking lot to give you car or truck a break after making the climb and room to walk the dog as well. I don't recall if one can park over night but I think so...there are no hookups but as I said, plenty of room.

Worth the time and money for sure! It's really cold and windy up at the top so make sure and take a jacket. Also don't forget the camera for the great picture opportunity.

We rode the tramway up to the top--11,312 feet--at Monarch Pass, looking out 360-degree for miles. Spotted TWO lanes of smoke; told the conductor at the top, and he said that there was just ONE fire the day before! Maps of the surrounding mountains--a lot of Fourteeners--at each side of the viewing tower are real help.
Can be windy some/many days to pack a picnic lunch, but the views will keep you busy.
Gift shop is a tourist's mecca for gewgaws, knickknacks & curios.
Chili dogs & nachos served there as well.

Kids enjoyed the ride to the top- and the free popcorn at the bottom! Take time and talk to the attendants- they have great stories to tell!

The views are nice but the facility is SO poorly maintained. I hope the condition of the building doesn't mirror the condition of the trammery.

This ride is a lot of fun - especially if you are older and/or cannot climb anymore. It's cheap, the view is amazing and you can sit inside out of the wind and enjoy the incredible view.

Our family all enjoyed our stop and ride on the Tram! Cash only at the main team building, tickets can be purchased in the gift shop. Beautiful views & free popcorn was a plus!

My husband and I stopped here on our way to Crested Butte from The Royal Gorge. The perfect stop for a quick gondola ride up the mountain for awesome photo opportunities. The employees were talkative and friendly.

Good views and chance to walk around at top. Free Popcorn when you come down at really nice and inexpensive gift shop

Beautiful views and gentle hike down. We loved it! And the free popcorn when you come down: perfect. Worth it!

I have been wanting to stop to do the tram for years and this was the right time to do it. The trip up is beautiful. Takes about 3 mins + allowing for stops to let others on. We stepped outside when we got up top and the view was breathtaking. Highly recommended

On our way home from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, we stopped here after seeing it a few times but never stopping. The staff was really sweet and kind, getting you all set and ready for the ride up. The old style feel of this tram was really cute, and worth the trip up. We wandered around up at the top, it was crazy windy up there, then hiked around to see where the path would take us. You could see views for day's up there! If you want to make it worth your time, go and walk around up there, check out all the pictures inside that show you which mountains are around you, and what else you can see while up there. Don't wear a hat as it can blow away!

Absolutely beautiful view at the top. Very friendly workers. Definitely worth taking the time for this

This was a highlight of our stay in Salida. It might be shorts weather in town, but bring a jacket and hang onto your hat! It's windy up at the top. But you'll get fantastic views! Do. Not. Miss!

The scenery at the top of Monarch Crest was amazing. Was 70 degrees with a light wind. Enjoyed the ride and fudge and free popcorn in the gift shop.

Nice stopping point headed over the pass from Salida to Crested Butte. The views are amazing on a clear day of all the mountain peaks!

The view was incredible, the staff was so helpful and friendly. We had our German Shepherd with us and they were patient in getting her in the tram and the gentleman at the top had a lot of information and was able to answer all of our many questions! Would definitely recommend, the views are great and if you go to the observation deck they have placards with interesting information regarding the sites.

I like the gondola at Telluride better, but this was a good value. From the very top, you can see in all directions for miles. I don't recommend it if you are fearful of heights. The car you in which you sit is pretty stable, but can sway a bit. Terrific views for the stout-hearted. They let you stay at the top for as long as you like. The store at Monarch Crest is always fun to shop, and they have some tasty chocolates for sale. Pretty good quality caps for sale, as well.

This is a short gondola ride up to the highest part of the mountain. From the top you can see 360 degrees around you and you can see mountain ranges that are far, far away. It's incredible. There's nothing at the top, but at the base is a gift shop, etc. If you ride up be ready for wind! When we were up there it was pretty blustery and cool (even in Sept!).
The drive over the pass had great views of the aspens, too.

Great thing to do if you are looking for incredible views and have members of your party that are not capable of hiking up to the same view. I prefer the hike but when my parents came to visit we took the tram up and they loved it!!

I stopped to stretch my legs at Monarch Pass on US 50 and spontaneously decided to zoom up the tram. The eight minute ride adds an additional 750 elevation gain from the pass, with absolutely stunning views on a sunny or partly cloudy day. The enclosed observation deck had panoramic photos with labels so you could identify which mountains you're gasping at. You can also walk around outside as long as you would like before returning to the bottom. It was fairly crowded at the base, but so much more quite since relatively few groups were interested in heading up the tram. It is windy most days at the top, so grab your sweatshirt and/or jacket even if it is really warm at the base. Oh, and FREE BAG OF POPCORN when you get back down to the bottom! You'll want to spend time in the gift shop, too...it has some neat stuff and more history about the area.

I took my dogs up and hiked down. It's a little rocky so if your dog is not used to trails it may hurt paws. They were super friendly in the gift shop and tram. Very fun afternoon

We rode the tram car up but walked down. Beautiful view. The walk back down was easy and the wildflowers were blooming beautifully. Gift shop is great.

15 minutes up and back plus whatever time you spend taking puctures . Great observation area. You can see for miles! Senior discount $8 and free popcorn at the gift shop. Attendants were friendly and informative .

Great views at the top the day we visited. Shout out to the Salida CC for recommending we go. Well worth the $$ for the ride and unlimited time at the top.

We always stop for photo op at the summit of Monarch Pass. We like to take the tram to the top. We do qualify for the "aged" discount ! Beautiful views of surronding mountains and Monarch Ski area. Hosts are very knowledgeable and courteous. Th Mrs gets a little "spooky" oon the way up ! Be sure to bring a jacket, as it is cool at 12K even in the summertime.

Tram was closed when we arrived. However, the gift shop and free taxidermy display are awesome. This is a must stop place to visit.

Loved it! So beautiful. It's quick, no lines. The staff is so friendly, you felt like they were old friends. Obviously they love what they do. Very inexpensive for such a pretty place. It was cool up top, but they had jackets for us to borrow.

This was a fun stop. $10 each for a Gondola ride up to 12000-ish elevation where there is a look-out area with amazing views. Beautiful scenery. In July there was snow up top as well as flowers blooming. Spend as much time as you want on top then head down for free popcorn and time in the Gift-shop. Also a very nice gift-shop with lots of different things at reasonable prices.

Owners/employees are really nice! My family and I truly enjoyed our ride, free popcorn, and our time spent at the tram.

Love the tram trip as the views were magnificent and it was a clear crisp day.

The tram seats about 4 people . It slowly goes up the mountain and you can get off and observe all the mountain. You can even walk around on top. It was cloudy and rainy when we went but still such a spectacular view.

Even though it was a stormy afternoon the views were spectacular and the person at the top was very imformative.

the ride was beautiful, the staff friendly, and the gift shop full of really cool items. i woulddefinately go back!! we even saw a bear!!

The tram ride up to the top of Monarch Pass is fun and easy. The tram goes nice and slow so you don't get queasy and also you have lots of time to take in the magnificent view. They stop the tram for you to get on and off, so you're not rushed. And the viewing platform at the top has helpful placards inside, and an outdoor balcony if you want to feel the rush of the wind at that elevation. The tram operators were very kind and helpful to us (older couple) in getting in an out of the tram. Also, there is a very nice, family owned shop right next to the tram that has a little snack bar, lots of shopping items, including rocks, clothes, and souvenirs, as well as trail snacks. Overall, it's a great stop if you're in the area. Another good thing is that it's not too expensive and they have senior and junior discounts.

I would highly recommend this attraction if you are in the area. The old tram was charming to ride on, and the views from the top were breathtaking. We also enjoyed the gift shop!

We had an excellent trip up the Monarch Pass tram. Good for all ages, and we did some hiking at the top and enjoyed some amazing views.

Drove from Salida to Monarch Mt. to ride the tram. We were not disappointed. Enjoyed the ride up. On top it was very windy on the outside deck. Views were spectacular. We were glad we had worn coats.Being a flat-lander, I could feel the altitude a little, but it didn't bother the granddaughters at all. Gift shop was interesting, enjoyed the free popcorn.

Up to the top of the world on this one. U are already at the Continental Divide which ia so cool. These trams take you to 12,000 feet. Crazy views all the way up and at the top. Loved it!!!!

The best...gotta do this if you are at Salida, CO. While on top, you get to see everything around you. Breath taking at first.

Wasn't able to do the tram because of our late arrival, but the Family owned and operated store at the top of the Monarch Pass, where you get the tram, is great! Bathrooms, every kind of shirt, food, coffee mug, stained glass, candy, you can thing of, this store has it. Staff, all family I think from what I recall, was pleasant and very helpful. We arrived minutes before closing and they stayed open for us to pick up several gifts, and even walked us through the store to help. Had a great display of taxidermy mounts from around the state and western US.

My husband and I enjoyed our quick tram ride and the wonderful 360 mountain views at the top. The tram and associated gift shop are family owned and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Gift shop has a wide variety of items plus homemade ice cream and snack. Free popcorn is offered if you get tickets for the tram ride.

Stopped here on the way back to Salida. What a view from 11,000 feet. Saw a few deer while we took some pictures. Note on the way down there are a few stop off points for even more breath taking pictures.

Do yourself a favor and stop here for an hour or two. The views are incredible and the folks running the place are helpful and friendly.

The views were amazing and the staff was super nice. We enjoyed browsing the gift store as well. Highly recommend.

I've been coming here since I was a child; it's worth the drive and definitely worth the tram ride to the top. Expect great views, patches of snow even in July, and probably some wind. If you're up to hiking, enjoy a few paces on the Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide trail.

This was fabulous! A beautiful ride to the top, amazing views, great picture moments, and you can stay up there for as long as you like- even hike a bit from the top!
Very windy, so dress for warmth!
Check the weather before you go - if you go in July, I saw the earlier the better! By noon, you risk rain fall and the tram shuts down.
Free popcorn after, too!!
This was just amazing!! Please do this! You wonāt regret it!!

This is a wonderful relatively short tram ride that even people with fears of height can easily cope with. The price is reasonable at $10 for adults. We had lived in the area for 10 years and had to have friends visiting from Boston to tell us about this wonderful adventure. Since then we have suggested it to a number of family members and friends.

Pretty cool views from the top. Lots of wildflowers in August when we went, so if your a photog bring your macro. Chilly up there, so bring a hoodie or a flannel.

This place didnāt come up the first 5 times I searched for things to do in Salidaā¦Iām so glad I searched 6 times! What a treat! Robert (at the base) and Steve (at the top) where both awesome tour guides!! The trip up in the tram was short, windy and had amazing views! The views from the top were completely worth the price of tickets!! And then to top it off you get free (delicious) popcorn in the gift shop!! The gift shop is full to the brim with awesome souvenirs!! I would highly recommend this stop!

Wonderful ride, it was nice to be able to see the ski runs that the boys had taken in the Spring from the top of the mountain pass.

Wow, do it! The views from the top area absolutely amazing! You can see for miles around, and the attendant at the to, Mike, was so friendly and pointed out several points of interest to us. I was a little hesitant, as I'm scared of heights, but the tram was so clean well cared for, I never had any worries. They also give you the ticket to take to the giftship for free popcorn, which we gave to some little ladies because we were on a motorcycle. This was the best $10 we spent on our 1700 mile trip from Southeast Kansas!

My two sisters and I happened upon this place somewhat by accident. When we left Colorado Springs, our destination was Monarch Pass. When we got to Monarch Pass, we found the tram. Another couple we met at the base of the tram highly recommended we take it. We did and were sure glad we spent the $10 per person for the trip. The views are significantly better than what you can get at the parking area next to the highway. You have a 360 degree view and you can see for miles. Unfortunately for us, it was really windy at the summit and quite cold (45 degrees) so we did not stay very long. On a warm, calm day, it would have been really cool to spend more time up there. Great photo ops abound. I did not find the tram ride very scary at all even with the high winds we had. Spend the $10 and enjoy the ride and the views!

Hadn't planned on doing this, but glad we did. A great way to see the area. Great attendants who were friendly and helpful at both the top and the bottom.

Open gondola ride to the top of the mountain with fantastic 360 degree views. Very reasonably priced, and if you want to walk the trail down, it passes meadows, goes into trees, and wildlife is abundant.

Ten dollars well spent. You can park and walk to the top or you can ride the tram up and down, or walk down. At the top, you'll be treated to a great view of the valley below. The weather can be quite brisk, so pack a jacket.

This was very spectacular. The views from the top are breathtaking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Tip - borrow the loaner jackets as it was very chilly at the top. Don't forget your camera!

Okay maybe not but a great view at the top. Panoramic. Fun ride up and a free bag of popcorn to boot. ENJOY

The tram is very quick, may be 10 minutes each way. You can spend as long as you want up top. The views are spectacular. Well worth the $10 per person.
Be sure to stop in the store for home made fudge and ice cream. The ice cream was really, really good. All the staff in the store and tram were very friendly. We would stop again if in the area.

So my family and I was just expecting to go to the top of the tram. We ended up having a incredible experience! My son saw the pretty pond when we were overlooking the continental divide. Long story short, three hours later, we returned to the tram to ride it down. Be respectful of the area, but don't just stop once you get to the top of the tram!!
If yo make it to the crystal clear pond, just know you are one of very few. Just ask the operators.

I would highly recommend this short excursion for just about anyone unless you have an acute breathing or heart condition (even if you are afraid of heights just look straight ahead not down). The gondola does shake a little in the wind and stops a couple of times to let people off above or down below, but if there is a strong wind the operators will not let people ride it. It is a great experience and my husband and I would both recommend it because of how unique it is! On clear days one can see for miles around. There is plenty of room in the parking lot and we had little waiting (we did it in the morning on Friday). When one gets to the top there are a few more steps to climb up and yes there are restrooms both down below and up on top. The servers are very knowledgeable and will assist to the best of their ability. A word to the wise. Make sure that your hat is well secured or you might end up looking for it when you get back down if you go outside to look at the view. Up on top, inside, they show what the different names for the mountains are in the area and even have some special stories about them too. If one is into nature I would highly recommend this site.
They also have a small gift shop and the prices seemed to be moderate and not too expensive and lots of local arts and crafts to choose from as well as other memorabilia or gifts to choose from. In case one does loose their hat totally they also have hats available at a reasonable price.

This is a must. We had such a terrific time riding the tram up, hiking and oh the views cannot be expressed properly in words. An added bonus- they allow dogsš¾

The tram has always been a fun ride to the top of Monarch Ridge (also called Monarch Crest). But the Monarch ski area recently purchased the operation and totally remodeled the visitor center (store) and expanded the restaurant area.
The old place was quaint and kind of kitschy but the remodeled facility is very nice. Worth a stop as you come over Monarch Pass.

This is found on the Continental Divide towards the top of the Monarch Pass. It only cost $10 each to go to the top, and is well worth the ride. There are great views from the top (on a nice day) and every staff member we met was friendly and helpful. Then, if you visit the Gift Shop at the base station after your ride, you get a some free popcorn, too! Itās a great Gift Shop as well, with a huge selection of items and souvenirs. Well worth a visit.

While I was not excited to go up a mountain hanging from a cable it was an absolutely beautiful and a smooth ride! We visited Colorado for our family vacation. The veteran who worked the tram while getting us on was very nice and informative of the area and when we reached the top we were surprised to get out and see that there was a stairway to a higher level with gorgeous views! It had been snowing while we were there which was amazing and when the ride was finished they topped us off with popcorn! Would recommend this experience to everyone.

We went on the last day they were open in September (closed for the winter). This is a great place to go for a free activity. The drive getting there was also beautiful. The ice cream in the gift shop was delicious!

This gondola is a very nice thing to do. You can go up and down and spend time at the top in about 30 minutes - longer if you want to stay up top for a longer period of time. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles. They have an observation post at the top with photos all around to tell you what you are looking at.

We have a few spare minutes on our drive from Colorado Springs to Gunnison. One of us from Florida and the other from Washington, this was a perfect addition to our drive. We got great pictures and felt like we were on top of the world!

The ride is very affordable and once on the top the view is amazing . They also have spare jackets by the tram.

Fun tourist attraction at the top of Monarch Pass. The views are great. Take a coat even in summer it gets cold. Be sure to walk around for the best views.

The ride to the top is slightly scary for those of us who aren't fans of gondolas, but the views from the top are well worth it. The teenagers enjoyed talking pictures of their feet on either side of the continental divide.

We were lucky and had an incredibly clear day when we went. The rate for seniors (over 55) is only $8. What a deal. Blue skies and white clouds over gorgeous14,000' mountain ranges such as Pikes Peak. The tram operators were very nice. They even have loaner jackets if you don't have one -- you will need it, brrr. Our best mountain pictures of Colorado are from the top. Spectacular. We went to the shop afterward and enjoyed the free popcorn and bought some gifts. I saw a man get a huge ice cream cone (next time!). Employees were very friendly. Excellent stop!

Inexpensive tram ride that has scenic views of the mountains. Highly recommend to do this trip once. The gift shop had the normal visitor items, but also had some unique items.

Whilst travelling through Colorado, our route took us to this cable car which had just celebrated its 50th birthday. Liked the reduced price entrance fee for the over 55s which, at $8 was a true bargain. Only a few minutes journey to the top which was still partially snow covered with a chill wind but what can you expect at 12,000 feet? Lovely 360 degrees views..all achieved in a short space of time if you are on a tight schedule. Highly recommended

Love the ride to the top. There was still snow on the summit. We had a clear day and could see Pikes Peak! Great views all the way around. Don't forget a jacket, much cooler and quite a breeze at the top.

I can't really believe no one has gave this a review yet. It has been several years since we have rode this. One cannot believe the sights on this. There is a place where you can get out of the wind and look around. You can stay up at the top as long as you want, well, until they close anyway. I suppose if you wanted you could even walk down. I did see a youngster climb to the top as I was riding the tram. One of the great things was back then and I suppose still today is you can bring your pet along. Wonderful gift shop and place to eat beside it. Going back in about three weeks and plan on riding it again.

Felt very uncomfortable here. Not very welcoming and they are not cyclist friendly. Considering that this shop is located at the trailhead for one of the most famous mountain bike trails in the country this is too bad!

Monarch tram-incredible ride and only $10/adult! Gondolas hold 4 people or ~680 lbs. 7 minutes to get to the top (and 7 min to get back down-hopefully...Heeheehee) Stay as long as you like up at the observatory but highly recommend wearing a hoodie as it is windy and chilly at 14,000 feet above sea level. The view is beautiful though. You also get a free pop corn at the gift shop with each paid ticket. Allow at least 30 min in gift shop as there is so much to see and unique items. Snack foods and ice cream also available in the gift shop.

Family friendly, great views of the continental divide. Nice break from driving all morning. We enjoyed a picnic lunch on top of the mountain. The crew was friendly, and the nearby gift shop had some nice t-shirts and gifts. Would be a fun ride for families.

Only $10 to go to the top ( about 11,000+) feet. Spectacular views. Back down at the gift shop, if you can't find something you like, you're hard to please. Great selection of gifts for the youngest to the oldest and you also get a free bag of popcorn when you show your ticket.

I thought it was reasonably priced. The family that owns it was very nice. The view at the top was spectacular. The cars feel very safe. My son and I hiked for a little bit at the top before coming down. Plan on bringing warm clothes with you. May not want to wear shorts.

Beautiful sunny day, no line. Old style enclosed gondola. The operators at both ends have a wealth of knowledge about the area and are only too willing to share it. The view was slightly compromised by the smoke from the California fires, but one can't have everything.

The short tram ride delivers you to the top of Monarch Mountain for a gorgeous vista of the surrounding mountaintops. Chilly, but very enjoyable!

Like the last reviewer my husband and I don't often do touristy things but we decided what the heck. It was pricey but I have to say I am glad we did it once. Great views. Didn't take too long to get up and down---I think the whole stop while on our road trip took an hour.
Taking a picnic up there sounds like a fun idea. I think this would be a great leg stretch for multi-generational trips, older travelers, or cars with young kiddos.
The only thing that disappointed me was there were no hiking trails at the top.
As we left my husband smiled and asked if we were going to stop to see a ball of string next.

Ride the tram to the top and enjoy the view. Upper observation station has a guest book and a marker on the floor of the continental divide.
Nice :)

The ride up was fun and we got a great view all around! The staff is so friendly and fun to chat with!
As a kid, we drove over Monarch Pass as I longingly looked at the tram (which my parents would never stop for). 40 years later, I finally got to ride it on a rainy day in June. Be sure to bring pants and a jacket, because it's cold up there! The tram cars hold four persons, max, but the trip is short so you don't have to wait long for a car. The view is nice but not spectacular. Be sure to visit the gift shop, which contains every touristy souvenir you could possibly want and also has a terrific book and map selection (whoda thunk it?).
