We loved our stay at the Aqua Log Cabins at Mount Bohemia. We did the all inclusive package for 2 nights.
We got Breakfast - fresh homemade pancakes & sausage or Bacon Quiche or Sausage Egg Bake, along with cereals, breads, yogurt, etc. Lunch was provided as a sack lunch - sandwiches or wraps with your choice of extras and a snack. Dinner was Hamburgs one night and Pulled Pork the other night, always served with a salad and fresh vegetable. Dessert always followed. This was all served about a mile away at the main lodge for Mount Bohemia and was served inside a Yurt.
Activities include: kayaking, paddle boards, pontoon boat, fishing boat, hiking, mountain biking, copper hunting, tour of a copper mine. All of these activities can be done alone or with a guide. Sign up for these activities is also in the main yurt daily. College students who are very sweet and very helpful! They also cook and serve the meals. We went on the guided Sea Kayaking tour on Lake Superior and even though it was rainy and cold - we had an amazing time!! The young ladies who were our guides were just awesome!
The Aqua Log Cabins are beautiful and clean. Bedding is provided - but bring your own towels and bathroom supplies. The cabin has 2 sets of bunk beds and 2 futons. Also table and chairs and a refrigerator. The lighting is somewhat dim. No TV. interest access and password are available. Upper cabins have a screened in porch area as well as a beautiful deck to relax on overlooking the Lake Lac La Belle.
This is not your ordinary hotel or resort. It is an amazing place to relax and enjoy this area without the distractions of phones and tv. You are required to drive to and from dinner and some of the activities, but it is not very far!!
The dock for the Aqua Log Cabins is under construction, but looks like it will be amazing when completed.
Great experience with very friendly and kind staff!!! Thanks for a great stay!!

Mt. Bohemia in my opinion is overrated. It is definitely not fancy at all as I was expecting. We were go to stay at Bohemia. When I called to ask booking questions the man I spoke to knew nothing & asked me to call another number to talk to another person. That other person was Elaine. We had the pleasure to meet Elaine when we purchased our day tickets. She was quite rude. She wasn’t done helping us when she decided that answering her phone was more important. Everything is located in yurts. The only lodge like place was opened for season pass holders to get their tickets the it was locked up. Angela was friendly. Most runs are single, double, or triple black diamond. There are literally a few blue intermediate runs. Prospect is where we spent most of our time. Powder is not our thing. The best thing about Boho was the view.

We just spent a week in the Aqua Log Cabins in December. It was fantastic! We have new snow everyday including fresh 10" just last night. Wicked powder day! The cabin was brand new and very nice. We had the meal plan with breakfast and dinner included. The food was excellent and the staff was phenomenal! We were given lots of personal attention and they were so flexible and easygoing. Lonnie was great and he took great care of us. This will become an annual trip for us. We had our dogs with us because the Aqua Log cabins are dog friendly. A cross country ski trail started directly out our front door and we X-country skied every day. The hill is not for beginners but we did have our 6 year old with us and he boarded every day. I would classify his skills as early intermediate and he did very well here.
Super trip, we can't wait to come back.

I called to review the conditions of my season pass i purchased because i tore my meniscus and i was belittled on the phone by Ronnie. He was degrading me and it was not appreciated. I will never be purchasing a pass there again thanks to the under-educated disrespectful staff.

We stayed at the new Aqua Log cabins for a week at the end of June. The cabins were clean and had an incredible view of Lac La Belle Lake. We did the all inclusive stay which included all three meals, stand up Paddle boarding, biking, fishing, kayaking on Lake Superior. The staff at Mount Bohemia were incredible! We had a blast kayaking on Lake Superior, fishing and biking. Incredible family trip! We can't say enough nice things about Mount Bohemia!

This was our 2nd time staying in the Aqua log cabins. The requirement to purchase the meal plan is a pain, because it makes for an expensive stay for less than adequate meal options. Unfortunately, this is the only game in town for breakfast so you get stuck with what is offered. The cabins are beautiful, albeit a bit quirky on the bed configuration. We are all adults, so bunk beds in a lodge-style setting gets a bit weird. Then, there's only one bathroom..
We love the addition of the deck and fire pit at the waters' edge! Very nice addition. We love that we can now see the water.
Disappointed we can't rent any of the water craft al a cart. Seems very strict on the rules.
We also love the addition of the hot tub and cabin bar. Would like to see more flexibility on the menu items. We understand the limited menu; however, if we want pepperoni on our veggie pizza, you ought to be able to accommodate and charge up, right? The kids couldn't get a soda, because you only use them for mixers; this is a little messed up too. Hoping these things improve over time. Lots of potential for sure..

To start this review I would like everyone to know that we snowboard. We LOVE being in the trees and backcountry. We have visited many resorts (MT, CO, MI, OR & MN).
Mount Bohemia claims that it's not for beginners. I found that to be true. I definitely wouldn't bring someone unfamiliar with tree runs. At the same time I felt their runs to be a notch down from most ski resorts. A double black diamond at MB is equal to a black diamond elsewhere.
In my opinion this place is great for skiers. Snowboarding was a real challenge. But not in the good way. We were constantly having to push, un strap and walk. Every single run had a flat or uphill section that made it impossible to go from ski lift to lift without pushing or walking. It was incredibly frustrating.
The had little to no signs. We were constantly getting lost or confused on our whereabouts. We've been to many mountains without issue, but here it was a pure guessing game. I even felt we were missing out on some areas because we simply couldn't find them!
There is only one small yurt with food. So you're very limited with choices. We had a burger and brat and they were pretty good. Normal ski food.
We spent two days here. I would have been fine leaving after day one. Day two we ditched early due to boredom. My legs were more sore from pushing my board then anything else.
We stayed about a 1/2 mile away at wilderness resort and saved money. I would recommend that if you want more privacy and make your own food.
I would not visit here again, but am not overly disappointed either.

Food and facilities were great. However COVID protocols were over the top. Placing an order via online system was overly cumbersome. Hostess was rude and treated us like we had leprosy. Would not go back until COVID is over.

I've been here many times now, over the last decade. Can't recommend it enough to advanced skiers/boarders, or intermediates who are up to a stiff challenge and can handle moguls.
There's your key....there is no rest here. Your legs will fatigue. No grooming to rest those legs on. Feel the burn!:)
We've stayed at the Lac La Belle cabins and rented another cabin right nearby....and now, there are many other nearby accommodations that have been added, as well.
Bohemia is definitely an adventure.....No rest for the wicked!:)

Believe the other reviewers when they say that this is the most physically demanding mountain they've ever been on. When my daughter and I were here in December 2014, we asked a ski patrol member why they didn't allow night skiing even though they had lights up everywhere. He asked me if I was tired (it was at dinner) and I said Yes. He said "That's why! By 7pm, we have only 4 people on the mountain".
He was right. This mountain will beat the hell out of you. It has a 900' vertical, is ungroomed and does not use snow making machines. They get over 250 inches a year of powder, which makes glade skiing possible. The terrain is strange--one moment you're wondering why this black diamond run has you skiing uphill, and the next moment you wonder where the rest of the planet went. On another run, you have to make a sharp turn or ski into a dry creekbed--you have only about 5 feet of "bridge" on the run. And all of the runs undulate.
This place will really test your balance and your skills. It does have great skiing. There are a lot of glade runs, if you want them. The people that work there love the place. They will take as much time as you want to talk to them about Mt. Bohemia. It's obvious that they love the place and they want you to enjoy it, too.
This area is beautiful. When we went, all the pine trees were snow-covered. It was like driving into a painting. Lake Superior is very close. If you take the few minutes it takes to drive to Copper Harbor, you'll enjoy the food and the view.
Everyone we talked to seemed to be from the Chicago area or Michigan. Not many people seem to know about this place. That will probably change soon. The skiing is great and the staff is more than helpful. Just don't be surprised by how tired you will likely feel my mid-afternoon.

We stayed at Mount Bohemia's Inn on Lac Labelle in early August 2014. The lodging consists of private rooms that share a common living area (with couches, fireplace, and games) and a large kitchen and dining area in a modern house. The house is right on the lake, and has a very pleasant deck with outdoor seating and a lovely lake view.
We got the option of room + dinner and breakfast, which for the four of us (2 adults + 2 kids) came to $170/night incl. tax. Meals are served in a yurt at the foot of Mount Bohemia, a short drive from the lodging.
Overall we were pretty happy with our experience. The young people staffing the place were very friendly and helpful, and the food was fine, nothing fancy but fresh and filling.
The main downside was that the beds were pretty uncomfortable and guests have to make them themselves from bedding found in an adjacent closet. You also have to provide your own towels. Otherwise, we had no complaints and enjoyed our stay.

What else can I say other than wow, this place is exactly what I was looking for, technical and challenging on almost every run, definitely not for beginners, so if you’re looking for the most challenging terrain in the Midwest I recommend you give it a go, you won’t be disappointed. Don’t expect anything fancy, this is a true skiers paradise, no fluff, just serious fun with a lot of like minded people, this will be a destination of mine until the day I can no longer ski.

Every year they offer $99 season passes for one day. It's worth the purchase. This year I had the pleasure of taking two trips to Mt. Bohemia and they were both awesome! If you can afford it (and it's not too expensive with multiple people) rent one of the ski-out cabins that sleeps 4. It's awesome to spend the entire day on the mountain and not have to hop in the car.
The food is nothing to write home about but you're usually so hungry from shredding all day that it doesn't matter.
The mountain is surprisingly complicated. You can hit some easier runs without trees or find yourself in 60 degree chutes with trees. And as always, when you hit the bottom you are either at one of the two lifts or you will find yourself on a road waiting for a shuttle. In my experience the shuttle wait was never more than 3 minutes and it will take you back to the main lift so you can go get lost again!
I'd put it up there with snowbird, alta, steamboat, etc. It's seriously worth the trip!

We don't stay at Mt. Bohemia but we stop in for their wood fired pizza at least once during our annual Keweenaw stay. Why? Because it is nothing short of amazing! Crust is perfectly done and toppings are excellent. The owner/manager (not sure which he is) is a gracious host and has always been incredibly kind, even when our toddler has been less than perfectly behaved.... You can sit outside and eat and nothing, and I mean nothing, beats sitting on a deck, feeling that cool air off the hills and from the lake, while eating a perfect pizza. So worth a stop!

Found this resort on a internet search. Did the all inclusive aqua cabin with the family. First of the aqua cabin was SPOTLESS! Very clean and great set up. The porch overlooking the lake was relaxing. The meals were perfect. Not gourmet but very good. The bag lunch they pack was perfect for afternoon activities. Their staff was laid back and very friendly. The all inclusive includes so many activities we were busy from sun up to sun set. No cell signal an no TV were great to get the kids off the grid. There is WiFi but we told kids no wifi. I highly recommend this resort.

Spent last week doing some spring skiing at Mount Bohemia. Conditions weren't great- El Niño has made it very warm here this year. Despite the conditions we had a great time. Stayed at the Aqua Cabins. Brought our dogs because they are dog friendly. This is a huge plus for us. The staff really took care of us. Lonnie, Elaine, Rick and all of the staff were great. The dinners are excellent every night. We generally ate breakfast in our room so we didn't have the breakfast offered in the meal plan. They actually got a cake and candles for my niece who had a birthday while we were there. The December season pass sale is a great deal. We will definitely be coming back next year!
Two things that could be improved: 1. The blankets are thin in the aqua log cabins. We brought our own.
2. The Internet connection in the cabins is slow. I don't really travel to the remote upper peninsula and expect great internet service so I'm not going to complain too much.

Delightful stay with our small kids. Tried kayaking, mountain biking, hiking- all excellent experiences. Great guides for the excursions... Sarah, Jess, Joey! Probably one of our happiest family vacations — no distractions with screens. Aqua cabins far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful location next to the lake, you wake up every morning in a Pure Michigan commercial. Took the pontoon out and hit up the hot tub/sauna one night. Shout out to Rick the bartender- he took good care of us! Wood fired Pizza is amazing— try the margherita.
All in all, didn’t want to leave, tried to extend our stay but they were booked! See you next year, Bohemia!

If you've heard the stories about this place, but are still unsure, just go. You will have the time of your life.

We are a family of 5, (kids aged 4,12, 14) and stayed in the all inclusive cabins for 3 nights.
First, cabins are gorgeous . Loved them. Only negative, since no air conditioning they did get on the warm side.
Food: 3 meals a day included. Loved our meals, only negative, again, very warm while eating.
Activities: we did a tourguided hike, pontoon boat and fishing, kayaking on lake superior, mountain biking, paddle boards and tour of mine. All were enjoyable!
Employees: college kids do the tours, help you plan your activities, make the food and serve it. They are friendly, good at their jobs, and they work very hard. If you stay here they have tip jars, and they deserve it.
I hope we make it to the UP again next summer!!!

Very crowded on weekends- a llot of families and kids. Try to go during the week and hit the backside of the mount to see more fresh snow and fewer people. The wind here is intense and it snows less each year. Last season I left 2 ft for fresh snow at home to find maybe a 1ft of packed snow at Bohemia. The owner continues to expand making it feel less like wilderness 'gem'. There clearly seems to be some growing pains, but despite the changes, both staff and visitors are friendly. It is must see if you love to ski!

Extreme skiing is an understatement.
Everything here is magical. If you don’t know what I mean, ask somebody who’s been.
My two trips here were amazing. The staff are all personable & attentive and the slopes really aren’t even comparable to anywhere else in the midwest. Crazy good times are guaranteed.

We came to stay in the Aqua Cabin with the all-inclusive option for a week in August. Admittedly we were very fortunate with our weather.
First of all, know what you are coming for and which activities are available. This was exactly what we like to do so it was great. But if you are expecting something more urban, forget it.
1) Sea Kayaking - we took two different trips to Lake Superior. One to Bete Grise and another to Eagle harbor. The guides did the heavy lifting and we enjoyed the trip.
2) Paddle Boarding - my teen boys loved paddle boarding around Lac Labelle. One day the guides put the paddle boards on the trailer and went out to Bete Grise which allowed us to swim/snorkel off the boards in the clear water off of the beach.
3) Mountain Biking - Not a bad selection of trails if you go the right place. However, don't just jump on the bike and start riding. Get some advice from the staff on which trails to ride. Some trails are steep rutted and rocky. Avoid them. You will hate them (and yourself). The available bikes were very nice.
4) Hiking - Montreal Falls, Bare Bluff. Great hikes and views of waterfalls or Lake Superior Vistas.
5) Enjoying the deck/dock - this year some of the trees between the cabins and the lake were trimmed out and a huge deck/dock built. A great place for morning coffee or evening campfires. Also gives a better view of the lake from most of the cabins.
6) Food - A fairly simple menu but I think it was done well. The staff was always accommodating. Breakfast was more or less the same each day. Lunch was a packed lunch of your design. Dinner was planned and different each night. Sure it wasn't elegant but we were always happy and satisfied.
7) Trips of our own design. We spent a day in Copper Harbor including some of our own hikes near there (Horseshoe bay).
8) Pontoon boat. We had a blast using the Pontoon boat for an afternoon exploring the lake.
9) I've heard the fishing is great, but we didn't participate.
The staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. We really enjoyed our guides. However, expect a fairly laid back approach (which is what we wanted). There were other possible activities but all are pretty much outdoor and active.
We enjoyed the cabins. I think they were beautiful, clean and new and had a lot of character with the log construction. There was a fridge and coffee maker. With the available memory foam toppers we found the mattresses comfortable. No closets, dressers or any furniture to put things away in. No TV, and frankly the internet at the cabin was not always good. However that kept my kids off their devices and outside.
So, don't come here expecting an elegant resort with a 5 star restaurant. Don't expect a canned entertainment program. This is outdoor fresh air fun which you have to participate in.

Our "Marina Cabin" was very nice but had no tv service and the internet worked intermittently at best. The area is beautiful and the lake is great. The all-inclusive includes many great recreation options including paddle-boarding, kayaking and even a pontoon boat (3 hours use included) and we had no trouble with availability. The included meals are served in a large yurt and are prepared and served by the same staff that provides the guide services. They are great folks but not trained in any aspect of food service. The food quality and wait service were both poor but not for a lack of good intentions on the part of the staff - they were friendly and tried hard. Unfortunately, management apparently doesn't know and/or care about this aspect of their operation. Given the cost of this stay you would certainly expect quality food and food service but that is just not the case. The rest of the experience (lodging, recreation and location) are top-notch.

Bohemia is a very fun place to ski. It is a homey little ski resort that is never overly busy but should be because of the fantastic skiing. Beware, this is an EXPERTS ONLY hill. You need to really have a good handle with your gear or you will not have fun here. At first it may seem to hard but stick it out and try some to make your own way in the woods and you will have lots of fun! Also don't leave Bohemia without hitting the outer limits and taking the shuttle bus back!

Mt. Bohemia is the best skiing in the Midwest for expert skiers and snowboarders. The mountain offer great terrain and the lodge is perfect for the surroundings.

Only visited one other time and didn't love so decided to give another try. Though the conditions may have been better and we tried to explore the hill more, still didn't love it. We liked the more open runs but the trees are definitely for skiers. Only one of the two chairs were running. It wasn't until we explored that we found out how you get transported back to the front, by bus. The "resort" is nicer than I remember.

We had the opportunity to rent one of Mt Bohemia's new log cabins #15. It was amazing. The tranquility of the cabin and the large deck overlooking the lake made relaxing easy. The cabin offered exactly what we needed to escape from our hectic work schedules. The fall colors only enhanced a great weekend. The cabin was clean and comfortable, the only thing missing was a coffee pot, which I understand will be added later. They are still working on completing the cabins and landscaping, but the cabins are beautiful. Anyone who enjoys the outdoors and all it offers will appreciate the area and the resort. We will definitely be going back again and I highly recommend renting a cabin if you are looking for a rustic getaway. Loved the tranquility and my only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Thank you to everyone at Mt Bohemia for the wonderful memories!

This place is something else. Difficult runs that are very fun. Most of the challenge comes from the fact that they do not groom any runs so the whole hill has moguls on it. They also do not make any of their own snow so conditions from year to year are variable. You get a great view of Lake Superior and Lac Labelle from the top. The people who ski here are very fun and it's easy to quickly make strangers into friends!
I would definitely suggest on your drive up to drive by the Michigan Tech campus. They have a winter carnival and they have snow and ice sculpting competitions that yield absolutely huge and amazing sculptures that you can see from the road.
The only disappointing part of my latest trip was some of my friends that came up with me bought 2 day weekend ski lift tickets in advance. Mount Bohemia closed for one full day because of high winds, and my friends couldn't get a refund. I have a season pass so I was less affected. I know that when you buy the tickets they say "non refundable even if we close" but it still just really sucked. Even though this was a bad incident I still have an overall positive option of the place.

Out-West skiing in the UP? Double Black Diamond ski runs in the Midwest?? Come on...so, I drove up there with a buddy and couldn't believe what we found.
Everyone there are serious Skiers, and from all over the world. I would say that it is like "Old World" skiing, but I'm not sure they skied like this in the old World either. You stay in Yurts or small cabins, and meals are provided because there is no lodge or restaurant. The lift doesn't spin until 11AM or later, so you could drive up from a bigger town like Marquette if you needed to. They run two lifts on the weekend and one during the week.
Book your stay early as the accommodations at the mountain sell out quickly, or stay in a nearby town and drive in.
No grooming, it is skiing "as the snow falls", which it does with regularity. We think we know about Lake Effect snow in the Chicago area and SW Michigan, but this is the real deal. Fueled by Lake Superior, this mountain is surrounded on 3 sides by the big Lake, and gets constant Lake Effect and regular snowstorms. Steep tree skiing, and 360 degree skiing from the top, wherever you ski down to, you just wait for the van to pick you up and take you back to the lift.
There is nothing like this place anywhere, check it out.

I gave this place 1 out of 5 for the friendly....yet incompetent staff. It seemed they put forth effort but we're never given the tools to succeed. We stayed for only a few days. Had planned on staying longer but.... accommodations were inadequate, service clumsy, food awful and the owner/management uninformed and lacking hospitality knowledge. We expected it to be cleaner, have decent beds, coordinated meals and service, and...well, professionals. Obviously too much to ask. Really a shame. This could be a gem.

We are a family of 5, (kids aged 10,14, 16) and stayed in the all inclusive aqua cabins for 3 nights. We stayed on August 18-21, 2016
First, cabins are very nice and plenty of room for a family of 5. These cabins would easily sleep 6-7 people. The resort just built a huge deck with a fire pit in the middle right. The deck is right on the lake next to the aqua cabins.
Second, with the all inclusive package there is a lot to do for the family. Guided hiking, guided biking, guided sea kayaking. We took advantage of most of the activities: Hiking, biking, paddle boarding, kayaking. You can also sign up to use the pontoon or fishing boat which is included (Nice boats to use). All of the equipment was in good condition. The resort even supplied fishing poles and tackle but some of them aren't in the best condition so I would suggest to bring your own tackle.
Third, the food was good. Breakfast, lunch, and diner were served each day. Breakfast: Egg Bake or Pancakes with sausage, cold cereal, toast, oatmeal, fruit, coffee, juice.
Lunch: Sandwich or wrap (turkey, ham, Roast beef, PBJ), fruit, chips, ect..
Dinner: Main entree plus desert (ie: brisket, potatoes, buns, cake)
The Staff was excellent. Very good customer service and very friendly. Our family felt very welcome and valued at this resort. If there is anything you need the staff was accommodating.
The fishing the Lac La Bella was ok, we caught a lot of small fish but nothing very big (perch, Sun Fish, Bass, Rockbass)
There is no TV in the aqua cabins but there is a common room with TV and DVD player.
Only downside to this area: No cell service and wifi didn't work most of the time.
Other negative: No air conditioning in the cabin but it wasn't warm the days we stayed.
The resort wasn't crowded at the time we stayed and plenty of equipment so we never had any issues scheduling activities.
We will definitely go back next summer. Thanks you to the entire staff at Mount Bohemia we enjoyed our vacation a lot.

Stayed this past week at the Aqua Cabins (no idea why they call them this as they are not underwater) but, just did not care for this place. While the construction on the log cabins is top notch the layout inside is very odd. Everything is in on one room including all the bunk beds. This means if you have mixed couples or groups it can be a bit awkward as basically you all sleep, dress, eat, etc. in the same room and there is no privacy at all. The beds are bunk beds and so not very comfortable and the bed is not even made for you when you arrive. They just lay all the sheets and very thin blankets on the bed and you have to make your bed while on vacation. It got down to 20 degrees this past week in Oct and the blankets are just not appropriate for this weather. Also nothing stays right on each nights sleep as the sheets all slip off the mattresses and are too small to even tuck in and try to keep secure. The sink in not in the bathroom which is also odd to me. There is a mini fridge but nothing else to cook anything or prepare any sort of food. The wireless is absolutely horrible. When connected it almost never works and times out and basically is useless. I could not even check the weather or email in the cabin and so forget Netflix or any streaming if you want some later night entertainment. Yeah there is no TV in any of the cabins other then the community house everyone must share a small, what looks like a 10 year old, 25" LCD. Speaking of the community house this is where you can get breakfast which is just some bagels, bread, yogurt, frozen oranges and frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches for the microwave. No waffle maker or eggs even. After day one we never bothered to go back. Not to mention there was a large Asian group staying in rooms in the community house and when we walked in one morning they looked at us in stunned silence like we invaded their cabin. I don't think the owners explained to them this is a shared area. Our party didn't care for this whole setup, just very uncomfortable. The dinners were in one of the Yurts but we never bothered to try these even though we paid for them because we always got off Copper Harbor from fishing too late. We would have preferred to not take any meals here but there was no option for this. I don't get other reviews that say there is a great lake view as there is not. Looking out the back window is thick woods and the lake is far off and barely seen. Also there is broken down trees and logs all over the back area that looks like a mess and should be cleaned up. The area is very beautiful and the fishing was overall poor but this is not Mt. Bohemia's fault. So other then the cool looking large logs that make up the cabins and nice wood look inside I just cant justify the high cost to rent these cabins for the reasons above. So would not return to the Aqua Cabins. It's too bad because I had much higher expectations for this stay.

This is a great way to see fall colors. Take the ski lift to the top of the hill and see the entire peninsula in all its fall glory!

First, this is an expert level ski resort. If you don't ski powder, trees, cliffs and steep terrain, this is probably not the place you want to be. Second, there aren't a lot of amenities, so if you want to be spoiled or pampered, forget it....BUT if you want a rough around the edges, bare bones, laid back ski getaway...you will find a little slice of heaven at Mt. Bohemia.
We made the trip early March during an unseasonably warm spell so conditions weren't typical but it was still a great time and we plan to be back. The view from the top of the mountain is truly breathtaking. We stayed in one of the new Aqua Log Cabins, (think KOA camping cabins on steroids), and they were absolutely beautiful nestled in the tree overlooking Lac La Belle. There are some nice trails for snowshoeing right outside the door. The Bear Belly Bar & Cafe is close by and a great place to have a beer and meet new friends. The meal plan was included with the cabin and we didn't expect much but were pleasantly surprised. Breakfast each morning was pancakes and sausage and dinner was bbq pulled pork our first night and brisket our second. It's served cafeteria style in a yurt but that's part of the Bohemia experience. Our biggest gripe was not being able to get a cup of coffee before 9:30 am. Next year, we will be packing the Kuerig and k-cups. Oh, and beware of the surly bartender...he is most definitely overworked and underpaid.

Nothing for beginners or casual skiers, but Lots of tree skiing and off piste areas. Note that conditions vary a lot: could be powder, could be all moguls, depends on weather and how skied in it gets. No signs of snowmaking or grooming, but they get a huge amount of snow at the tip of the Keweenaw. When we were there it was very crowded and there are limited facilities at the base of the hill. Had to boot up and have lunch in the car, but probably not an issue usually. Crowd was young and scattering beer cans widely. Staff is pretty tolerant of people doing what they want. I'll be back more for the terrain than for the party vibe.

Some buddies and I go here frequently for the crazy amount of snow they get. We watch the weather and when it dumps (which it does a lot) we jump in the truck and drive the 7 hours to ride some of the best snow there is. We stay in the 4person cabins and while they aren't much it's a warm place to sleep and we can walk down for meals and to get to the new hot tub or the North Pole bar found in one of the yurts. While staying in a cabin gets you dinner and breakfast, we like to bring a grill for a dinner and lunch. Every one we've met has been super cool and is there for the same thing, awesome terrain and amazing snow

Great, challenging terrain. Best vertical in Michigan and closest thing to 'out west skiing'.
Super fun tree runs and moguls. Can't ski everything in one day.
While they had an unusual warm spell late this January (everyone in Midwest did), the snow conditions weren't the best, but even with 2-3" of new snow, this place rocked.
We didn't stay at the mountain, and pretty much everything here is in yurts, but that makes it a spartan, skiers delight. Refreshingly rustic.
Note: the skiing is for black diamonds and above. I'd come back here in a heartbeat! Can't wait to show more ski friends this jewel of a ski place!

I always make 2-3 trips to Bohemia every winter. It's a destination ski resort, without a doubt. Always great snow (even pow pow!) and challenging terrain, plus it's never busy or crowded here.
The staff at the hill are very friendly and will probably remember you if you show up more than once. The price is right for a lift ticket, too. Some people are put off by one or two chairs, but there's so much terrain that is accessed by these chairs, you'll soon realize that it's worth every cent. Plus, the Backcountry Bus will pick you up if you stray too far away from the chairs. This adds a whole new level (and unique experience) to your skiing adventure.
Every trip to Bohemia has been a wonderful experience for me. The skiing alone is phenomenal (yes, you can get knee-deep in the U.P.), but it's also the area. It's remote and isolated (no cell service!), which really adds to the vibe of a semi-community with the others thare are there with you. The surrounding area is quiet as well, but there's still plenty of things to do (check out all my reviews for the Calumet & Copper Harbor area).
Free tip #1: Buy a season pass if you plan on riding three or more days at Bohemia...you can save some serious coin over buying three day's worth of lift tickets. The season pass sale is only ONE DAY A YEAR, and you can buy online at Bohemia's website. The pass goes on sale the first Saturday of December.
Free tip #2: There's no cell service at Bohemia, but there is free wifi in the main yurts.
Free tip #3: The cabins at Bohemia are nothing but bunkhouses (literally) with a toilet. But for ski-in/ski-out access to the hill for $99 a night, it's WELL WORTH IT. There are also 12-person yurts for larger groups for $129/night.
Free tip #4: There's now a bar, the sadly ironic-named "North Pole Bar" in the yurts. Keeweenaw on tap!

Our group absolutely loved Mt Bohemia. Food was very good. Skiing was outstanding. We were still finding stashes of powder after 4 days. Cabin was a bit small for 4 guys, but we didn't spend much time there, so who cares. This place has tons of character and is full of characters - which makes it fun. If you are looking for a clean cut "resort" experience - look elsewhere. I read some of the poor reviews and I can understand how some people might have that experience. It's really matter of perspective and expectations. We were there to ski the trees, have fun and relax - and it was perfect. Coffee sucked - next time I will bring my own;)

If you are in need of a challenge head up to Mount Bohemia. This is some of the hardest terrain to snowboard or ski I have ever encountered. Its also some of the most fun. There are a few wide open runs, but mostly back woods tree glades and some extreme cliff skiing. They had great powder when we were there. I would suggest going after they have had a good snow fall since there is no snow making or grooming. There is no fancy lodge or condos at the base. Just a collection of Yurts where there is food, beer, and some rentals. You can rent a yurt or a cabin to stay in right at the base of the hill. The staff and ski patrol were extremely nice and accommodating. If you are a good boarder or skier you have to make the trip at least once up to Mount Bohemia.

First off, you do not feel as though you are skiing in Michigan. This is a real mountain. Great snow conditions, tons of fresh powder, and not at all crowded. At the end of December, they had over 150 inches of snow, which is more than anywhere else in the country. The staff and owners are extremely friendly and the place has a nice community feel. Well worth the trip.

We did the meal plan. I had no idea what to expect. As others commented on the service, the staff who guide also cook. The meals were just ok. But they were so nice I can't fault the staff. I would not do the meal plan again but I'm not sure that is available. There is a restaurant in Lac La Belle (Bear Bellies) I would have loved to have tried but I felt committed to eating at the Yurt because we paid for it. We loved the Aqua Log cabin, although we couldn't really see the lake through the trees. The cabin itself was beautiful, however the bed was so uncomfortable. The sheets kept slipping off the plastic mattress. I'd bring your own bedding if you go. I would highly recommend going to swim at Bete Griese beach - it was awesome. So clear - almost Caribbean like. Again- great cabin, bad bed, friendly staff, average food.

We saw this place in a brochure toward the end of our U.P. trip and decided to spend a couple of days there. It was great! Fishing, biking, kayaking, paddle boarding-we even went on a guided agate hunt! (All of this, plus lodging and 3 meals a day for one price! We loved being able to check out the pontoon boat and go on our own little adventures for a few hours. If you're looking for a place with lots to do and great people, this is it! Love, love, love Mt Bohemia!

My boyfriend and I decided to go here as a weekend getaway, we stayed in the Aqua Log cabins. We went for the all inclusive price to take part in the activities and relieve the worry of where we would eat. Overall, Mount Bohemia was a nice place, the staff was nice and did everything they could to accommodate their guests. However, there are definitely a few negatives to Mount Bohemia.
1. The price you pay (in our opinion) was not worth the stay. Paying over 200 dollars a night to stay in a cabin without basic amenities like linens or a microwave was ridiculous.
2. The activities offered in your all inclusive package were not clearly outlined on how to take advantage of, we expected some sort of guide book in our cabin on where to go or what to do but instead were left lost.
3. The cabins aren't actually on the water, they are behind a stinky marsh that you need to walk through in order to get to the lake, which also doesn't have immediate swimming access.
Overall, we had a decent stay and a fun mini vacation, however, if the prices aren't adjusted for the summer we will not be returning as it was not worth it.

We visited Mt Bohemia during spring break 2013, our 20 year old son had a few days free that fit perfectly with our days off. He has been intrigured by Mt Bohemia since he first heard about it and me, being a MTU alumni, jumped at the chance to reconnect with my college days. We stayed 2 nights in Houghton but only ended up skiing one day. My husband & I are in our 50's, ski 5-7 days a year (mostly out west) and even the "blue run" here was over our heads (well, at least mine). It was the end of March and there hadn't been recent snow, so I'm sure conditions can be much better than what we encountered. Even though I only did a couple runs I was very glad I tried it but would only come back if conditions were excellent.
As for our son, he absolutely LOVED the tree runs! He said Mt Bohemia was the awesomest place he's skiied and that includes Big Sky & Steamboat (along with 20+ other ski areas). He bought the phenomenally priced season pass this year and hoped to go over the Xmas holiday but now is planning a spring break trip with his buddies.
Everyone we dealt with at Mt Bohemia was SO nice, it's a very small operation and you really feel like you're part of a very well-kept secret. It is out in the boonies but that only adds to the allure of this hidden gem. If you have been looking for a great ski area in the midwest and are above average in skiing capability, do yourself a favor and check this place out.

We dropped in here for a wood fired pizza because there didn't seem to be a lot available in the Lac La Belled immediate are the night we were there and were glad that we did. The atmosphere was very relaxing after a long day's drive. The pizza was good and the woman working the pizza shack was very friendly even though she was very busy. Great to relax on the deck adjacent to the sauna and pool and just what we needed.

Highly recommend the Aqua Cabins of Mt. Bohemia for a summer trip with kids. Beautiful, new, clean log cabins with plenty of space for a family. Be sure to reserve an odd numbered unit so you get an upstairs with a deck. The common deck with a fire pit right by the water is beautiful. Great beginner mountain bike trail leaves from the front of the cabin. Staff was helpful and professional. If I come back to the UP, this is where I'd want to stay!

We went to this cabin for a family get away and would never go back again
First- there was no firewood available for the fire pit, the lawn furniture was is shambles and half the dock had fallen in the water.
Second-all the stoves burners only half worked, took forever to cook anything, the fireplace was broken and the repairman was not happy he had to come fix it (the only other heat was in the bedroom and bathroom), we moved the couch and futon out to make out to beds and there were dead flies (many), there was ONE trash bag, teflon pans were scrapped up and teflon got in food, no light over the stove so you could see what you were cooking, there were no hand towels or dish clothes.
I called and emailed and had no response from anyone. They obviously dont care about the less than adequate amenities and not offering things they state on their website is included with your stay.

We had a fantastic 4 days of riding at Mount Bohemia. One of a kind terrain and a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
The hot tub is an excellent new addition for this year. Stayed at the Trail Side Cabins- true ski-in / ski-out. Challenging Nordic ski trails are another nice feature. Took a short hike to to top of Little Boho-worth it!
Food is good as usual. Beautiful views of Lake Superior just a short drive to Copper Harbor.

For midwestern skiing, MT Bohemia was great fun, provided some decent steep glades and great snow, even though it had not snowed extensively recently. It was cold and the Keweenaw had received 27’ of snow to date.
In my estimation, the cautionary notes and signs regarding the extreme skiing was hyperbole as the double blacks were not terribly steep and the triple blacks were manageable for an expert skier. Having said that, it is not a suitable place for unskilled skiers or beginners.
The Aqua Cabin lodging was comfortable, but lacked kitchen and thus resort provided a meal plan consisting of breakfast and dinner, which fairly could be stated as filler. The meals certainly need more attention and effort by proprietor. He should demand good foods and prepare them well so the food service can be ranked above poor, which is what I would rate the pancakes, sausage, pulled pork, etc.
I like to eat well when on a ski outing so I traveled to Calumet and Copper Harbor to eat decent meals rather than consume the filler in the MT Bohemia meal plan.
Plastic forks and styrofoam cups and plates certain should be replaced with environmentally friendly alternatives in my view as well.

This is by far the best ski resort I've experienced in the MidWest. My husband and I grew up skiing and snowboarding in Utah, Teton Village, and Targhee. Mount Bohemia ranks right up with other advanced resorts as far as skiing goes. I found it a difficult mountain to snowboard, because I didn't know the terrain and got stuck on several flat spots. I will ski next time we go back.
The yurt where people rent gear, buy tickets, and food is all together, so it's really crowded and chaotic. But the staff handles it well. I highly suggest bringing your own food, especially if you're a vegetarian.
The staff was very helpful and friendly

Mount bohemia is the only reason I have been able to maintain my sanity during the winter months while living in the midwest! The riding is unbeleivable when there is good snow. They dont groom their runs or make snow so if you plan a trip monitor the conditions before you go. It is mostly backcountry style riding with alot of glades. There are no halfpipes or parks. (a good thing in IMO).
This not really a resort to bring your kids unless they are expert riders or skiers.

If youre tired of icy ribbons of death at your typical michigan or wisconsin hills, grab a map(you will prob lose cell service) and take the journey to Mount Bohemia. This is a true ski adventure, so if you're looking for spa treatments and fine cuisine, steer clear!! Good "backcountry style" terrain for skis or boards, lots of bumps on the cleared runs, nice tree lines and some cliff drops. Some flat spots, so watch out boarders if you hit the "outer limits". I found most of the terrain to be challenging and really fun. I felt like I had traveled back in time to the good ole days before ski resorts were filled with starbucks and oyster bars...wake up in the morning, drink a beer and get ready for "rubber legs". This mountain will test your ability as a skier/boarder and the base area will make you appreciate how it was "back in the day". It consists of 4-6 yurts combined for a really unique base area that was pretty lively at night, locals and visitors doin the apres ski thing. I thought the food was just fine, but I was more concerned with riding. In short, go big or go to boyne!!!

Mount Bohemia sneaks up on you in the summer. Surprising to see the ski runs in the summer or fall. They offer various diversions in the off-season, but we mainly just enjoyed the view of mountain and the Mongolian-style gers. The lake is just adjacent across the road.

This place is not for everyone. But for those up for the challenge, this is the best skiing ever. Especially if you love tree runs! But: things aren’t marked the best, and they mean it when they say not for beginners.
My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the cabins, plenty of room for the two of us and could’ve shared with another couple. The breakfast and supper were great too! Don’t be a Scrooge, shake the snow globe.

Drove up to Mt. Bohemia this past weekend from the Chicago area. This is the best skiing i've ever been in the midwest. I've been to Colorado for skiing a handful of times the past few years and Mt. Bohemia is a little sliver of Breckenridge placed in the upper peninsula. Very challenging runs, cliffs, trees, and didn't stop snowing from when we arrived Friday until we left Sunday. It does take some effort to get to Mt. Bohemia(8-9 hour drive from Chicago), but it is every bit worth it. There are nice little cabins about 30 minutes away called Mariner North and was pretty inexpensive. I would recommend Mt. Bohemia for intermediate and advanced skiers/snowboarders. Mt. Bohemia is not a place to learn skiing/snowboarding. It is definitely a must place to go, not only in the midwest, but for the U.S. in general. There was a problem with the lift on Saturday for about an hour, but my friends and I made the best of it by hiking up a little bit and hanging out doing small runs.

Just got back from my first trip to Bohemia and I had great time. The skiing was fantastic. The staff was friendly and helpful, and there was never a line at the lifts. They have a Hostel Yurt, Cabins, Yurts for large groups. Be prepared though, since there isn't anything besides a snack stand. They do have a stove (no oven), microwave and toaster. However you will need to bring all of your cooking utensils with you, because there are none there.
Also they aren't lying when they say there are no beginner runs.

The BEST back-country skiing, albeit not a Snow God the snow belt blesses this place more often than not. THIS IS RUSTIC if you need a hairdryer and/or shower stay home! The lodging and beds are PLUSH but not luxurious. The breakfast needs bacon and jams, (PLEASE LONIE), the cabins along the lake need better for you drinking water maybe filtered like the "trailside" cabins. VERN is the MAN, if he can't do it, no one can! PS NO BEGINNERS OR WHINERS ALLOWED

We were to head down for a weekend and i fell ill. The doc said i MUST NOT GO under any circumstance. My partner did go. I called after to ask if there could be any leniency on the reservation. Honestly the manager (Lonnie) went NUTS! All i did was ask. In all my time i have never seen anyone deal with the public in such an explosively angry and disrespectful way. Truly there was no need to verbally batter me.

Staff was great, beautiful scenery , tree lined curving , hilly roads. If you are not a UP person, this is not what we call a resort down south of the UP. Our mistake was seeing all inclusive resort and thinking it would be similar to other all inclusive resorts we have been to. If you don't mountain bike or love water sports in the summer as we don't then think again. On the other hand if you love all these sports then Mt Bohemia is for you. Meals are served in Yurts and the Inn is a one story house rather than an Inn. We had to leave earlier than planned due to a problem at home, but did enjoy the tour of the Delaware mine and the Copper Harbor lighthouse tour

We looked for hotels a month in advance and everywhere was booked. We do not ski and found a room at the Mount Bohemia resort? They let the two of us rent a yurt. We did not know what that was. It was a part structure, part tent. It slept 16, but the two of us had the whole thing. The yurt was very comfortable. The spa, bar, and wood fired pizza was nearby. The location was great, about 15 minutes from Copper Harbor. The spa was wonderful after a day of hiking. Missy the bartender was very nice. The pizza was delicious. It is too bad they didn’t have more food options.

The resort offers breakfast and dinner with lodging. We stayed in the newly built Aqua Log Cabins. They are very nice and we would stay again. The meals, while a nice feature, were not very organized. The wait staff do the cooking and serving and had a difficult time multi-tasking. We waited an hour for breakfast one morning. This after several different wait staff asked us what we ordered. Might we suggest a simple buffet?

We stayed at the Inn at Lac LaBelle and skied at Mt Bohemia for three days. The conditions while we were there were amazing! Four inches of fresh powder on the first day, still lots left over the second day, ten more inches of fresh snow at the top on the third day, and it snowed again that night, making us wish we had the time to take a few runs that morning.
Everyone on staff is awesome, so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the mountain and the surrounding area. Lonnie and Lindsay are two of the nicest people you will ever meet! Rick and Elaine are super sweet and wonderfully accommodating, obviously hard workers. Lynette and Gina behind the bar are friendly and quick with service. All of the liftees are skilled, patient, and entertaining.
The Inn was close to the hill, clean, and quiet. It has a cozy atmosphere, making you feel at home as soon as you walk in. Don't forget to bring towels as they are not provided, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring paper plates and plastic silverware too. Each room sleeps four people with a full bed and a set of bunk beds. The first two rooms are adjoined so if you have a large group, you can all stay essentially together. We were only two people, but our "Inn-mates" were a group of 8, and there was plenty of hot water and the shared bathrooms were not an issue.
If you need rentals or just want to try a new style of ski or snowboard, they have quite the collection of rentals and are really good at matching each individual with the right set of skis or snowboard for them.
We did see a lot of guys that brought their girlfriends along who were not as skilled at the sport as their boyfriend. This resulted in a lot of arguments and tears on the hill, in the lodge, and in the parking lot. Please remember that Mt Bohemia is not for beginners and it is really not worth it to try to coax someone who is not ready for this type of terrain to try it anyway. If there is a member of your group who is not at the level required for this resort, it really is better that they just skip it all together than risk ruining relationships and risking injuries, even though there was always plenty of ski patrol around to handle any situations.
I can't wait to go back to Mt Bohemia and hopefully stay in a cabin right on the trail next time!

Believe the reviews about the accommodations...they are bare. Food is bad, the lodging is mediocre and quite frankly....management doesn't seem to care. That said, if you can live with that (which I can) the skiing/snowboarding is fantastic!!! The powder day I had there rivaled that of Snowbird, UT. Runs were long enough and the powder was soft and consistent. Tree runs are plentiful/open/and otherwise a great technical experience. If your a powder hunter your assured a powder day there if you visit for any two days in early February. My sense is that the first two weeks of February are the sweet spot for this mountain. 1:) because they they have an 40-80" base 2:) because Lake Superior hasn't frozen over yet so lake effect snow is still plentiful. Words to the wise: don't go there by yourself (it's dangerous and ski patrol can't sweep all the runs at the end of the day); don't drive there without a heavy 4x4 (I saw multiple awkward stuck vehicles); bring your own food; again, I feel like first two or three weeks in Feb are the sweet spot. In other words, if I didn't catch this place on a powder day it wouldn't have been worth the drive (for me it was 8 hours to get there). I will definitely be scheduling another two days there next February because it's such a special experience. Lastly, do yourself a favor and get up early for the morning runs. Elevation is not high and temperature can fluctuate in and out of freezing which turns the pow heavy later in the day. I can last about 60 minutes in that heavy wet pow before my knees start shaking. Remember there are no groomed runs here so you need to hunt for pow constantly. Cool thing is you can always find it if lake effect snow is still in full effect (basically early-mid February). I am very satisfied with my experience at Mount Bohemia! Get over the rustic lodging, bring your own food, enjoy the nostalgia of Yurt living and give this place a chance. It's fun! Plan a trip there next February! Give it any two consecutive days in early February and you'll get a sweet powder experience.

I just returned from Mt Bohemia and I must say this place has it all from a terrain standpoint. Unfortunately, the mountain received a full day of rain a day before we arrived and the temperature dropped. The hill was rock solid in the morning and some of the afternoons. Really tough conditions with 1 day being a one and done. We did the cat ski at Voodoo mountain and this was the best conditions we encountered all week. It was dust on solid crust so we weren't getting beat by rock hard moguls all day. Steve who ran the trip was knowledgable, personable, and just a wonderful guide. If you're looking for extreme or challenging terrain at Voodoo, you're not going to find it. The day we went it was easy glade skiing (black diamond from my experience because of the trees) and blue for the open areas of the runs. The terrain and skiing experience - 3 stars (would have been 4-5 if we had the conditions).
We stayed at the yurts on the hill for the entire week we stayed so we experienced it all. The staff was courteous and helpful. Lonnie went out of his way to find the best conditions on the hill for us and he set us up with an employee to show us the way to the best runs (Kudos Lonnie and Dusty!). People on this blog seem to slam the meals but they were OK. Dinners were actually good and plentiful but breakfast consisted of pancakes and sausage everyday. The breakfast included one drink (OJ or coffee). If you wanted more, it was $3 a cup. That seemed excessive. Also, coffee wasn't served until 9:30AM with meals at 9:45AM. Strange. Anyway, the timing may coincide to the partying and sleeping habits of the tenants in the yurt area during our stay. Our 1 week perception of the average tenant was a group of guys 20-30 years in age that partied hard and, unfortunately, loud. We encountered at least 4 separate incidents of loud, obnoxious behaviour within close proximity. We certainly did our fair share of indulging but we were respectful of the volume of music we played and were cognizant of the hour when we played music and engaged in animated conversation. The last night at the mountain we had a group of guys that went hard until 4:30AM. Why didn't we try to shut them down? Because we had done that earlier in the week and it just gets your blood pressure up when you do it. It was very frustrating and there was no one from the facility that seemed to be policing the situation. Lonnie and team - 4 stars, Meals and accommodations - 2 stars.
Would I go back? Yes but I would not stay at the yurts.
Big League!
If you are looking for a real ski challenge in the Midwest, look no further. The tree skiing is fantastic, the terrain variety matches resorts 10 times the size, some places are almost unreal, with huge snow pillows, little cliffs, gulches... no crowds, efficient shuttle buses supplement the lifts, friendly staff, great local brew (Widowmaker Black Ale is a must!). There is a 1-day $99 season pass sale on the first Saturday of December - don't miss it.
Disclaimer: not recommended for beginners, intermediates who are not ready for trees; somewhat pointless without fresh snow. Check the forecast before you come. Lodging at the base is quite spartan but there is a very friendly motel in Mohawk (White House), 20 minutes away.
