we visited on a windy day with high waves. Giant flocks of birds were feeding in the churning waves. Very interesting to seee. Quite a variety of sea birds.

Beat the crowds and stay at North Beach. Watch the dolphins play in the evening and the sunset over Savannah.

This is the beach you want if you're in Savannah and want a quiet relaxing beach with shells. It's less crowed than South Beach however the sand isn't quite as fine here. There is a lot of shells and shell pieces here. It's not so bad you can't walk around barefoot if that's your thing.

We stayed at Blue Cottage, a short block walk to North Beach with a safe pedestrian crossing over the main Tybee road. Once there it was a sandy coastal walk and a shell collector's candy store, all the way for half an hour to Tybee lighthouse, which tells a proud history of protecting the sailors off shore for nearly 200 years. There are several species of native birds to spot here, pelicans being dominant and sand piper.
Parking is very good at North Beach Bar and Grill, payable. The bar and grill is excellent for variety and does a good job all day with breakfast, brunch and right through 'til late inside and out.
All generations welcome and the beach is a step away from a cocktail or two.
There are shops on the adjacent main Street a block back, so this doesn't spoil the nature lover's aspect.
It's not a crowded beach as a rule and suitable for family swims and gentle lapping waters.

The Water is son warm felt like I was in a giant jacuzzi , with large large ships going buy, found 2 sand dollars and a beautiful piece of drift wood, parking is 4 dollars for 2 hours

Relaxing area for families, couples and retirees.
Enjoyed walking along the wide, clear beaches, enjoyed the variety of shops.
Found the RV Riversend Park clean, helpful and friendly.
Possibly a bit of a tight squeeze, slightly expensive, but found they would not let us change plots to extend our stay any longer, although they agreed they had vacancies.
Shame! Their loss.

We went over to North Beach after visiting the Tybee Island Lighthouse and Tybee Island Museum. The bathrooms were available right at the front and very clean. The attendant was also nice and let a bunch of ladies in to use the facilities before he closed it for cleaning. The beach itself was great! There were a few school groups there when we arrived, but we found a spot on a wooden swing and enjoyed a small lunch before heading into the water. As a northerner, I found it to be very warm, but there weren't many other people in the water. After a bit of swimming, we laid in the sun and collected some shells. The showers were great right before we left to wash off the sand and salt before getting in the car. It was such a lovely day!

The north beach was the site of my daughter's Tybee Island wedding. Lovely and less crowded than the beach further south, at least when we were there (midMay). Lighthouse and museum across the street, one beach restaurant and shop. Several parking lots (but like all on Tybee, you pay and it won't take bills, so bring quarters or a credit card!)

So pretty!! The beach was great!! Concession stands changing rooms restaurant. Very windy. Corn dogs were a footlong! They were great for a snack!!

Nice and quiet. Peaceful sunset walks on the beach. Please note: When renting golf carts, be aware that the local neighbors may not appreciate the noise in the peaceful and quiet communities.

took a stroll while visiting the area. Nice beach that wasn't crowded. there is no boardwalk. There is a lighthouse near the beach

This is a great beach for watching the sunrise. Not a lot of people. Later in the day it is a great beach for the family to enjoy. Nice facilities and very clean. Peaceful and very calming.

We visited North Beach on Labor Day weekend, choosing it over the other beach areas on Tybee because we were told it might be less crowded. There is a for-pay parking lot adjacent where we did eventually find a place to park. We quickly found the public restrooms to change in, and it was clean and nice. We were able to rent umbrellas and chairs right on the beach from North Beach rentals. A little pricey at $30 for two chairs and an umbrella, but still convenient. The sand is kind of coarse and loaded with shell fragments, but the view is lovely and even on the holiday weekend the crowd was bearable. Nice experience.

We spent several days along the North beach. We found it to be very family friendly. Plenty of room to spread out. Not a lot of beach rentals, but there were some chairs and umbrellas.

Didn't have much time on Tybee on my first visit but found this beach/access towards sunset. What a lovely spot! And there was a wedding going on too. Didn't swim but great strolling!

The North Beach was less crowded with people, but it definitely had some wildlife. So maybe it's not the best for swimming, but it was great for dolphin watching! We also saw sting rays, turtles, and several different types of crabs. We loved it!

North Beach is a family friendly beach with showers, restrooms, food, swings, a view of the lighthouse, and a small park nearby. You'll find families with kids on this beach. I recommend North Beach if you're looking for a family experience.

The north end of the beach is much less populated and has swings you can sit in and watch the ocean. If you want to relax and enjoy the beauty of the island, this is the place to go. I would love to live there.

We enjoyed shelling at north beach more than at Tybee beach. The beach was quiet in comparison and the sand is quit Shelly, not so sandy. The seagulls enjoyed it as well.

I enjoyed walking the beach and watching the big ships come thru...lots of shells to be found and just very peaceful

Loved the north beach as it displays a variety of sites to see. The dolphins can be seen from the shore line, huge ships going in and out of the channel, the small light house and gorgeous evening sunsets.

Right across from Tybee Island Lighthouse and on the beach. Looks like all the locals go here. It was January, but the place was pretty full for a Wednesday night.

I absolutely love Tybee and North Beach is my favorite. It's less crowded and quieter. I love to set on the shore off the Savannah river and watch the giant cargo ships pass by on their way out to sea and the shrimp boats will park and you can always see dolphins in the water. The water is pretty shallow so you can go out a good ways without being too deep. Just one of my very favorite places.

Wonderful beach, safe, clean, and inviting for many Long Beach walks. The beach is a great place to find plenty of seashells and rescue starfish. Perfect for photography.

I did not find this to be a pretty beach despite it being the one my family who live in south Georgia prefer to go to. They like it because it's less crowded than near the pier. It also is closer to the island causeway. So there's less traffic to deal with at the end of the day leaving vs driving from near the pier.
It's near the river though. So debris washes up on it. The high tide flows over a rise on the beach. So even if you position your chairs at the highest point so you can view the water, the tide is going to rush in underneath you and get your stuff wet. Don't leave your things there to run get something to eat!
Unlike at the pier, I didn't see any public bathrooms. Perhaps there are by the lighthouse though.
Unless it's much further from where you live or are staying, I would drive the extra miles and go to Hilton Head instead. It's the same brown water. But the sand isn't as dark brown and the beach is much wider. There are more things to do and places to eat.

This part of the beach is way less packed. Perfect for a more quite getaway. Lots of seashells and perfect for fishing.

It's the closest beach to Savannah - 20-30 min away or more w/ traffic. Ride share drivers don't relish the long trek and an empty return trip so timing is everything.
The beach is clean and wide - chair/umbrella rentals (cash only on the North Beach) are convenient. The food shack provides basic fare at beach prices. Happily they take credit cards.

What a great time at the beach. We took a day from being in side the city to go out to the islands and we loved North Beach. The water can get a bit choppy if there is wind or a storm, you are looking right out into the Atlantic so it isn't protected any. The beach was large so you can spread out and it has public changing rooms and bathrooms. Which for us coming for just the day was great. It wasn't rocky at all, so it was such a delightful beach to bring a lunch to and spend the day. You can easily park a bike or pay to park a car if you drove over.

We went to the North end. Yes we paid $3.50 an hour to park but some Florida beaches charge that much and more. The lot was small and muddy. Beach parking is paid until 8pm. Beach closes at 10pm.
The beach is pretty wide and very wide when tide is out. Tybee recently passed a no smoking ordinance for the beach so $3.50 an hour is a small price to pay for clean air at the beach.
Good belly surfing waves. Near the river mouth some people were using surf boards successfully.
The sand is not groomed but still OK except in shell pockets.
You CAN bring umbrellas and chairs. There is a boardwalk from the lot, across the dunes and to the beach.
Crab Shack restaurant is close by and a good place to (drive) eat.

Clean beach and not too many visitors on the island during the week I was there. Very strict on paying for parking. ALL plarking on the island is metered, and you must pay or get towed - until 8:30pm. Then it is free.

Quiet beach with long wide sand. Not many people so easy to social distance. You are a close walk to ice cream and great restaurants

This side of the island is so much more laid back and less crowded. Suits me just fine. Love the whole island but north beach is my favorite

This beach is clean and pretty. There is a parking lot with vending machines, bathrooms, a restaurant within walking distance, and a boardwalk leading to the beach. The parking lost costs money to use and was full by noon. We liked this beach more than the south side beach because the crowds were slightly less.

Not a lot of eye appeal at this restaurant but when it comes to what is important- the food- there isn't much better on Tybee!
I'm not sure who creates the specials they serve at North Beach but they offer some highly creative dishes that you might expect to get at an upscale establishment. The dishes are not only creative but they are absolutely outstanding and delicious.
One of the staples on the menu is the Caesar Salad with oysters. The dish has as many oysters as some places give you when ordering just oysters. These came on top of an excellent salad. It was more than my fiancee could eat.
I've had several other plates on different visits and I've NEVER had a meal I disliked. That's hard to say about most places. In the summer it can be difficult to find a spot to sit but if so, it's worth the wait. Highly recommend.

Loads of people on the beach with nice water and clean sand! If u walk around the tip, less crowded and still a short walk to the closed place for drinks, food and shade!'

This was our first trip to Tybee Island. We loved the beautiful wide beach with plenty of room for all. One morning, we were treated to one of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen. Gorgeous place!

If you want to get away from everything and everyone North Beach is the best place to go family oriented very quiet and not nearly as crowded as is South Beach of Tybee amazing difference beautiful views

Beautiful large beach. Not too busy so space to spread out. Warm luxurious water with fun to ride waves. We had a great time.

I wasn't impressed with Tybee island. I like a place thats not as built up
If you like a place with lots of hotels, restaurants & souvenir shopping then you'll like this place.
The lighthouse was cool. The beach is large but not the soft sand I would prefer
I was comparing it with Folly Beach in SC, which is much more laid back.
I wouldn't return

My husband an I rented a condo on the North Beach on Tybee. We loved the peace and quiet and we saw many dolphin and pelicans from our balcony every evening. It wasn't crowded during the day, either. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Great morning at Tybee's North beach. The beach is very wide so plenty of room, even on a crowded day. Loved it!!!!

This is a pretty beach to walk around and take pictures. It was too cold to go in the water. It was a very quiet beach.

Beautiful beach. Attracts slightly smaller crowds than South Beach. Tybee Island Lighthouse, North Beach Bar and Grill right there. Public parking area (pay). Recommended.

North Beach offers your typical beach experience- paid parking area with a public restroom and a boardwalk leading from parking lot to beach. There was also a playground and the lighthouse near the parking area which we didn't visit. The beach itself seemed to be less crowded than Tybee South Beach, and more quiet/peaceful. Lots of shells on the beach near the break wall at low tide, along with shore birds (ruddy turnstones, willets, sanderlings). We found a sting ray and horseshoe crabs that had washed up on shore. Saw lots of dolphins swimming. There are boats offshore and people onshore, but that's hard to avoid anywhere.

Sunrise on North Beach and Central magnificent. Will rent B&B -Cottage next visit. Gorgeous area and just off causeway from Savannah, minutes away also from central Tybee.

Good place for an afternoon drink and appetizer. Was truly surprised they had a Riesling on their wine list! It was a fun place...no air conditioning for an on the beachfront.

We really enjoyed staying on North Beach because it is not crowed and the waves are not as large. We have younger kids, so it was nice for them not to be knocked down by waves. We had a great time playing in the water and on the beach.

Lovely beach a little quieter than the beach at the south of the island, not as busy. The under-tow is stronger had to be just a little careful while swimming. Very nice day.

We loved this beach, less crowded, less commercial. Abundant parking, i suggest downloading the parking app.

I enjoy more people watching and beach vibe, small shops, ice cream, music and this part of the beach really had none of that. It was pretty and a nice beach but for what I like the south end is more my style.

MY HUSBAND WERE STAYING IN SAVANNAH AND VISITED TYBEE ISLAND MANY TIMES.
LOVE THE RESTAURANT AT NORTH BEACH. ALWAYS GREAT FOOD AND FRIENDLY STAFF.. LOVE IT.

This is a beautiful, clean beach with access to good food and entertainment! Also the lighthouse is right there!

Went for the day, nice public restrooms and changing area. It wasn't crowded, very clean and got to watch the dolphins swim by all morning

Beautiful white sand beach as far as you can see. Lovely swings are situated every so often along the backside for those who just want to sit and enjoy the view.

Tybee's North Beach is always a fun and relaxing place to go, even when the winds are blowing hard like they are today. It's not always crowded, large boats are always passing by, in and out of the port and kite flying is a must, just make sure you have one that's rated for "higher winds" or use a strong line. :)

We went to north beach this morning and had an amazing time. We got there early around 9am and was one of the only people at this gorgeous beach! We found tons of shells, a hermit crab and even a shark tooth! We love Tybee and will be back again!

We visited this beach on a weekday and there was a total of about thirty people there. A beautiful way to spend an October afternoon. Hot, sunny, a lots of sea birds around. Not just seagulls, but sandpipers and even a large bird that might have been a heron. I have arthritis and was worried about walking on the loose sand to get to the waves, but this beach has a wheel-chair mat that makes it easy to walk out to the hard sand.

This was a great location for a lesson, it was fun to watch her learn and all the experienced surfers there. Fun morning!

North Beach is very relaxing and what we needed as a family for a vacation. There is plenty to do on the island, but we spent a couple days over in the city.

Just loved. There are pay parkings ($2 per hour). No public restroons (my only negative point). The water was absolutely wonderful, warm and really calm (late June). Must bring umbrellas and chairs, because there are nobody renting.

Quiet, low key beach. We saw a beautiful sunrise and dolphins daily. The water isn’t blue, it is a bit murky but is warm and refreshing. We rented a house on the beach so we didn’t have to pay for parking. The tide does come up quite far, so access can be limited during high tide. Great for shell hunting and watching large ships come into Savannah. Overall a great, family friendly beach area! Would visit again.

We stayed at the Savannah Racket and Beach Club condos so spent our whole beach vacation on the north beach. The tide was never too strong to swim. The landscape varies so walking from the mouth of the river to the lighthouse and the pier was very interesting. Seeing fish jump out of the water while you swim was so much fun! Our favourite thing, however, was seeing the dolphins swim and jump near you. At times, they were 30-40 feet away.
On the north beach, you can also see the freight liners go by several times a day. Check the tide schedule since they typically go in and out of the river at high tide. Shrimp boats can be seen driving by with dolphins swimming behind them. Also there are several public boat tours that you can take from this area.
The sand is soft and white. Beach shoes really aren't necessary as most areas to enter the water don't have many shells.
This is a quiet part of the island so if you're looking to party, this isn't the beach to do it on. It's great for families but for us, a middle-aged couple, it was not crazy with kids. Overall, we loved this beach and will return.

By the lighthouse and battery museums. There is a restaurant too. Pay for parking! Clean area well maintained boardwalk to the sand and water.

I liked that there were only a couple people on this part of the beach when I went for a stroll around 11 am. Even though it was pristine, with no trash about, there was nothing remarkable about the area. Even the sand dunes seemed to be barely clinging to life.

The title says it all!! Love north beach and it’s my favorite place to go for sun, fishing, sunsets, and most of all - relaxing!

Very beautiful scenery. Enjoyed viewing all the wonderful creations that God has made for us to enjoy!

We visited South beach first, we liked this one best. Very clean, beautiful beaches with the light house in the back view.

Parking was a challenge, and you should bring anything you think you will need with your. It is a pretty good walk to the water from the road. We'd visited the lower beach nearer the pier the day before, so North Beach was very laid back and with more locals, for a nice change of pace. Really get the flavor with a great panoramic view of the sea.

Great beach for early morning walks. Crowds don’t arrive until after 10:00. Beautiful views of surrounding islands and ships coming in and out of savannah port. My favorite place in Tybee.

We were here over Labor Day weekend and it was not at all crowded. Very Clean beach!!! Good surf. Family friendly there is also an entrance that is handicap accessible .

Two trips here for me this week, first and last! First of all North Beach is not at all pretty, in no way is it an attractive area. The local people here seem to be friendly but that's about all you can say good about it. Now for the best part while we were here spring break started, I can't figure iut why young people would come here, but they did, and alot of them. Maybe they come here because obviously it is really easy for young people to obtain alcohol. I mean kids who are under age, kids so young their faces are still covered in acne. This was not something we saw once, but every where. Then we went into a shop to look at t shirts ( won't name it, but big blue building on the left when headed down 1st st to the beach) both females working there looked and acted stoned. So I wouldn't recommend this area unless you are an under age drinker wanting to see an ugly beach.

Sorry to be negative but here's what you need to know:
Pay to park $2.00 per hour
Boardwalk to beach is nice. The soft, squishy sand 80 to 100 yards to the water? Not so much. If you like to play games at the beach, you can't here. There's only about 10-12 feet of had pack sand to the water. No shells here at all. They've all been ground to bits. The non-potable shower water, well, it smells, bad. We watched a family bath, shampoo, soap, the whole 9 yards right beside the No Bathing signs. It was August. Stiflingly hot and humid. Did I mention stiflingly hot? I'm from SC. It was hot AND humid. We had two beach buggies to haul all our gear. See soft, squishy sand reference above. 80-100 yards of it!!! You get to watch ginormous cargo ships enter and leave the harbor. It's $9.00 to go in the lighthouse/museum. It was stiflingly hot and humid so we skipped walking to the top of the lighthouse. The beach was just a battle. The sand, the wind, just a battle. Exhausting! DON'T ATTMPT TO WALK ON THE SAND WITHOUT SHOES OF SOME SORT. MOLTEN (ALMOST).
Hope this helps. SC has better beaches.

Quiet Beach area close to the lighthouse. There was parking on site as well as bathrooms, changing areas and a place to rinse off. The concession stand was closed the day we visited but there was a bar and grill on site. The beach was clean and family friendly. If you are visiting for the day, there were chairs and umbrellas available for rent, which none of the area workers seemed to know about..so we went and bought a few cheap chairs in town.
Water temperature was perfect...waves were fairly mild but there was a significant undertow. Nice place to avoid the crowds!

Unlike Mid Beach, the North Beach of Tybee island only partially faces the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the North Beach faces the Cock Spur Island Channel and has far less waves resulting in a very calm ocean experience. It is also far less busy as it is lined by private condos, whereas Mid-Beach is more dense with condos and hotels. Both are great beaches in their own regards, but if you're looking for quiet and peaceful visit North Beach.

After visiting the Tybee Lighthouse, we walked across the street to North Beach. It has a wooden walk way, little gazebo, and swings to sit in at different places. There was also a rental place to get chairs, umbrellas, etc. the day we visited(Mother's Day 2017). We enjoyed the salty air & breeze, picking up shells, watching little kids build sand castles with their parents just we used to do(my baby is 30 now lol), going over to the rocks to see what small animals may be trapped in the little waterways. This is also a good spot to see large cargo ships sailing by. There were also people fishing. I have just never understood why someone would fish so close to where people are swimming since they do catch sharks sometimes. That just seems dangerous. Piers were made for that. Beaches are beautiful and we should enjoy them, but please, DO NOT LITTER! Take a small trash bag or even the bag the food came in from the store with you to the beach and put your trash and half-eaten food & peanut & sunflower hulls in the bag and not throw them on the beach! There are numerous trash cans available the entire length of the beach. No place on earth will remain beautiful and breath-taking if we continue to not teach our kids and adults not to litter. I want everyone to enjoy the beaches for generations to come. Please don't be part of what destroys it.

Less crowded and less rowdy section of the Tybee Beach...they are currently building new bathrooms and have a few places to eat

Conveniently located at the north end of the island when you get into town. Plenty of parking available (for a fee). Restaurant and restrooms available. Beach had chair and umbrella rentals available. Follow us @WanderingParents

Big Atlantic Ocean Beach family adventure. Beautiful weather. Strong breeze. Tide rolling in. Took our own chairs and umbrellas (one umbrella got turned inside out in classic "these people don't know what they are doing fashion"). Standing there with a ruined umbrella trying to look cool as the wind blew me around was a highlight of the trip. Eventually found a place for the umbrella where it would not cause further embarrassment.
Took to the sea. Got knocked over by wave. Roll Tide. Tried to get up. Another wave was waiting. Strapping grandson rescued me. Another trip highlight for the group.
The beach was not crowded. Everyone having a great time. Parking was convenient and not a rip off. This is the "not commercialized" portion of the Tybee Island Beach.
This activity was definitely a hit with our crew!

I went to the lighthouse, beach and north beach bar & grill. Parking was a nightmare & quite expensive at $2 an hour. Trying to get out of the parking lot was an absolute nightmare and the meter "maids" parked their truck, got out & did not consider that they were making more traffic.

Loved the beach and the area. Not crowded even though it was in peak season. Very little surf and a great place to watch the dolphins play all day.

Good food at a good price, service was excellent. This place is about 150 yards off the beach at the north end of the island.

The North Beach area is much calmer than the other beaches at Tybee. It is very family friendly as there are barely waves at all to knock the little ones down. You can see tons of dolphins while you are sitting on the beach also. It was really the perfect day at the beach!

We visited Tybee Island North Beach this past weekend, and also enjoyed this in addition to Tybee Beach. It is a little quiter, with calmer waters, but fabulous wildlife, frequent dolphin sightings - including the first time I have ever been able to witness dolphins leaping!

If you like a beach where you can go and not be judged by your looks or your weight here's your place. Not many of the "Beautiful People" come here! What is here is the rarest of all rare things: families having fun! We saw all types of families here. No one cared about skin color, bathing suit size, country of origin, degree of your tanning process, or anything else. It's just people going to the beach with no agenda, no pretense, and no preconceived notions! The only objection here is to have fun with your kids, or grand kids! THAT'S IT! We saw no kids on their cell phones, or any other electronic devices. What we did see was dads splashing around in the ocean with their kids while moms prepared a beach snack for everyone. We saw grandparents taking grand kids to the beach for the first time and the excitement on all their faces. We saw sand castles made by veteran builders, and castles built for the very first time. We saw young and old collecting sea shells to take home with them. Being a kid who grew up in the 60's I saw my childhood relived all over again. At this beach old can feel young again. I saw America at its best here! No politics! No judgement! No worries! I saw my childhood.... again! Fantastic place!

Nice and peaceful at the North Beach with great views of the ocean and the ships coming into port through the Savannah River Channel

nice beach, water was great, weather was lovely. do not have to walk far from parking lot to the beach. can rent umbrella and chair if you wish

This was my first visit to Savannah I found the beach to be very relaxing I was very pleased it was everything I was told it would be

Ah! Loved this beach! So pretty, calm and relaxing. We went in the off season and it was chilly. Not very many people out. Loved the swings that were on the beach! This beach isn't very touristy and I loved that- "all natural" so to speak.

We visited at the end of July. It was hot. Very hot. And we had just climbed to the top of the Tybee lighthouse. The restaurant does not have AC but has fans everywhere so it was ok. This is pretty much an open air, on the beach, restaurant. Service was quick. Food was good, basic, and abundant. Cost was reasonable.

North Beach is much less populated than what I would call East Beach and South Beach. Plus it has the Tybee Lighthouse Bar and Grill right by it, which is nice. Depending where you are at on East or South beach, you could have a half-hour trek to find refreshment...

We went to see the sunrise at North Beach and it was perfect. It's about 30 minutes from downtown Savannah with no traffic. During the day the beach can get very crowded and parking can be tricky. (Parking however is free before 8AM and after 8PM.) The beach is well taken care of, when we went walking in the morning, it was clean and very pleasant.
A little warning: the road to and from the island is a two lane road for a good section (one lanes going in each direction) with no shoulder so if there is an accident along the way, it can be a nightmare. We got behind an accident and it took us over an hour to get back to Savannah. This is something to keep in mind during the busy season.

The North Beach is not nearly as crowded as the South Beach, although restaurant pickings are slim here. They do have large changing rooms, which is nice with the kids. There is no place to rinse off the sand as you come off the beach, you have to walk across the parking lot to the changing rooms where there is an outside shower. Still, I'm not one for large crowds, and North Beach fits that bill perfectly!

Tybee's North Beach is my favorite. I prefer it over Myrtle, Daytona, Gulf Shores, Edisto. We come in peak season each year. It gets a little crowded on the weekends, but not bad during the weekdays. Waves are gentle enough for small kids to enjoy playing in. At low tide, the beach is very wide which is great for playing bochi ball, throwing frisbee, taking walks, building sand castles. Then we go under our canopy to relax and watch the pelicans dive for fish and the cargo ships go by. They keep it clean, which is nice. Seems to be very family-friendly, not a big loud party scene which is good. Fun also to go walking on at sunset time.

This area is a great place to visit! Quiet & wide beaches at low tide! Sand is hard so it is an easy beach to walk on. Wonderful place to watch the large ships come in!

The title says it all: less touristy side of Tybee, more peaceful, more reflective, more relaxing. One may find solitude here depending on the time of day / season.

It was great to visit the North Beach. The sand has many Tiny broken up seashells in it and there are shells for the taking. The view of the lighthouse from the beach is beautiful. The waves and sea foam splashing up onto the land makes this a very peaceful site.

A group of 9 of us went to the North Beach on Tybee on July 5. They have a nice large parking lot right across from the Tybee Lighthouse. We arrived at 8:30 with several cars already there. We arrived early because we knew 4th of July weekend would bring the crowds. Parking costs $3 per hour. We unloaded our stuff and up the boardwalk we went to claim our spot for the day. The beach is pretty wide, even at high tide. However, it just is not the pretty beach we are accustomed to on the Florida gulf Coast. There is no powdery white sand and clear blue water. What we saw was very coarse rough sand and dirty brown water due to the Savannah River emptying just north of us. The water was 87 degrees so it felt like bath water. It was neat seeing the large container ships entering and leaving the river channel. We saw all kinds of people and craziness. We even saw one group bring a small kiddie pool with them to the beach. Not sure why you bring one so those. Unfortunately, there were also idiots who thought everyone else on the beach wanted to listen to their crappy music. Not sure why this is a problem at all beaches these days. I guess it is just the inconsiderate people coming to the beaches. When we were walking back t our car around 2:30 that afternoon, there were many people it reminded me of the 4th of July scene from the movie Jaws. In some spots, groups of people were 8-10 deep. On our next visit, we may come back again or we may try another beach with clearer water.

We stayed on the North Beach of Tybee and I am so glad we did. Originally I had found a couple of rentals on South Beach but ended up renting in the North Beach area instead. Boy, am I glad we stayed here. The beach was much less crowded and we were able to find many spots to swim, fish and relax without hundreds of people around, even in the last week of June. If you want a nice, quiet place for a family vacation, stay on North Beach.

Though South Beach gets heavy traffic and sports the nearby shops and digs, the North Beach is more quiet, private and low-key. The wife and I took a long stroll at water's edge late one afternoon. The perfect place to stroll, unwind, whisper secrets and hold hands.

We stayed at the Savannah Yacht Club ....which in itself lovely....The north beach is less populated....Dolphin sightings everyday.....cargo ships passing by heading for port...shrimp boats.....good eats.....dolphin/sunset cruises....totally relaxing

Beautiful amd clean beach. We have.been coming to the North Shore for vacation for years. We sat and watched the sun set on a perfectly quiet beach tonight. It never gets old.

We love North Beach. Visit it every time we come to Tybee Island. We actually love everything about Tybee Island.

Our Cottage we rented was a stones throw away from the North Beach on Tybee Island. The walk to the beach was beautiful and quiet. At night you can hear the frogs croaking and the crickets chirping.
The beach is very clean and it wasn't crowded at all which is always a plus. There are porch swing that anyone can sit in all along the beach. The sunrises are a must as it is perfect to sit on the swing and enjoy the quiet serene landscape while breathing in the crisp sea air.
You can see the Tybee Island Lighthouse from the beach. It's a perfect beach for taking your sandals off and walking barefoot listening to the crashing waves and leaving all your worries behind.

We loved this beach! The waves were not as rough as they were at mid beach. Don't know if it was just the day we were at mid beach or if it is always like it there. The kids preferred North beach. With low tide there is a little patch of water that gets trapped close to shore that they loves playing in. Not as crowded as mid and south beaches. The light house is directly behind the beach and you can walk to it. We had a great time and will definitely go to this beach on our next visit.

Since it was off season, parking was not a problem, but some other things were. While my husband went to find a restroom, I took our dog for a walk down the road leading to the parking area. During the walk 4 people felt the need to inform me that dogs were not allowed on the beach. I replied that thank you I had seen the signs and that is why I was walking down the road away from the beach. Then a few minutes later the town police or security pulled in the lot and was watching us and another out of town family with a dog. For the record, we both cleaned up after our dogs and were wearing masks, and social distancing. My husband went to look at the beach to see if we should come back another day without our dog, but I nixed the idea because we were made to feel like criminals. And, as we were leaving, an elderly woman who had "yelled" at us said to the "official" in the car good riddance and thanked him for coming. Seriously!! I can imagine what they do to people not following the rules!!

A very quiet beach with lots of room for everyone. There is also a snack bar that serves ice cold drinks and lunch items.

North Beach was near the Tybee Lighthouse. It is a large clean beach with parking available. There is a snack shop and a changing area. Great place to walk or swim.

We stayed at Lighthouse Point, and we spent a lot of time on North Beach. I just LOVED the seclusion, and the beach is huge. It is calmer than the south end, but it is totally worth it. We had dolphins swimming all around us, and the view of the ships going to port was unbeatable! I would definitely return to this beach.

We've been coming to Tybee for years to spend Thanksgiving. We've never been able to eat here for one reason or another (construction, renovations, parking, etc.). Tonight we showed up at 7pm and were turned away. Others were eating and drinking, but they would not seat us saying that renovations start tomorrow. No info on their Facebook page about this. So we wasted time, drove to the opposite end of the island, and weren't even able to sit down at 7pm on a Sunday night. This is not a serious business. They're a joke and care not about their customers. Good luck.

North beach area has nice clean beaches, parking is close, but all pay parking, (about $1 and hour) Public bathrooms, and a close restaurant.

The North Beach is where we return annually with grand parents through grand kids for past 25 years! When asking our kids where the happiest place on earth is, they answer Tybee Island 1st then the mouseville down in Orlando!

North SHore beachis nice, but it's hard to get to. We wanted to go to the area where the Savannah River comes together with the Ocean and it was near impossible.

The parking lot size limits the number of beach goers so the beach is never over crowded. We go there all the time. To get a parking space it's best to arrive before noon on weekends. Before 11:00 on busy weekends. Hardly any jellyfish all last year (2015). Might have something to do with El Niño. Water hit 80 degrees F in late May 2016 and is 85 now in late June. That's really warm.

We have been to Tybee Island many, many times - always stayed on the South Beach. Always a lot going on at South Beach - both good and bad! So we decided to try the North Beach ( Manager at our hotel recommended it ) and we were very happy with the area. Fewer people on the beach, new changing rooms / bath house and one bar / grill to get food or drink.

I visited North Beach while on a run It is a beautiful spot with great views. You can also watch the ship traffic going in and out of Savannah Harbor. It is located in the shadow of the Tybee Lighthouse and shares a parking lot with Fort Scrieben.
A great place to visit!!

I usually spend my time on South Beach when in Tybee; however, when I visited last, I went to North Beach for the day. The beaches are not as crowded and not as many families with small children. It was just as beautiful and much more peaceful. Another great Tybee beach!

Great location, with a parking lot very nearby. The beach is nice and not as crowded as other sections of Tybee beaches. You can also watch big cargo ships pass by, as you hang out on the beach. Just a great all around experience. I didn't give it 5 stars only because it doesn't appear that they groom the sand very often, like beaches in LA do. Not a complaint, just explain why a great review of the beach didn't get 5 stars.

This was the first time we visited this beach and we loved it. Found shells we never found before. Loved walking it at night! It’s was close to 2am before we noticed how the times passed.

Absolutely love North Beach,it isn't to crowded and the showers and changing rooms off the beach area are a huge plus to me,because that annoying sand everywhere is my main disdain for the beach and North Beach alleviates that :)

This is a nice beach that is not as crowded as the other beach. No shops and stuff there. There is a parking area.

We walked along the beach after visiting the lighthouse and watched fishermen/women casting out from the rock jetty. People were enjoying the water and soft sand. Parking is limited and metered, although there is some free parking in the lot by the lighthouse.

Nice time on North Beach with daughter and her friends! Very Private and camped out behind the dunes when the winds got up! Love that it is a large beach - beautiful!

We visited the beach and loved that it wasn't super crowded. We did some fishing, but didn't have any luck there. If we had had more time then we might have caught something. It was great to be able to see the lighthouse from where we were at on the beach. The sand was clean and easy to walk on. It made for some great photo opportunities. We visited at sunset and at sunrise. Great views. The parking fees weren't terrible at all. If it helps keep the beach area nice then I have no problem paying the fees. I would definitely visit here again.

Peaceful winter walk with the family. Fantastic viewpoint for dolphin watching and we also came across many shells, some seaweed and a few turtle nests.

The beach was really nice.. The weather was too cool to swim,, but we enjoyed ourselves anyways.. Would love to come back!

Great beach with great views of container ships, dolphins, pelicans. There is a restaurant there in case your hungry!

Visited for a couple of hours while visiting Savannah. Large beach with many souvenir shops and bar/ restaurants. Took a walk on the pier and watched people fish for a few minutes and then explored a couple of shops. High season must be very crowded and difficult to park because it was crowded for a cool February day.

This is a favorite for when I am feeling like just being alone or with that someone special. Great place to walk or shell hunt but mostly to just sit and enjoy the air without the tourists ruining the atmosphere. The front of Tybee can easily get clogged with sunbathers and kids, tourists with loud radios and people running all over playing different types of sports. The back river beach is a slower area and less populated. The waves aren't very big, if any. The water is much clearer. The sunsets are absolutely amazing.

Pretty hard surface beach on leveled made it easy to walk and run, very quiet in winter months, beautiful.

Waves were a bit rough when we went but was still a fun swim. Beach is wide with packed sand but further up you can go beach combing. Bit of a walk but nice boardwalk and man made path to the beach- at least where we were.

The north end of the island is quiet and slower paced than the south end. There are a few restaurants and shops to visit. The beach is nice and quiet also... and not crowded... but you are not facing the ocean... just the Savannah river.

This beach was nothing compared to the reviews I read prior to going. Parking was okay, the Bar and grill were tasty, but the beach was awful! It was super crowded, it was not peaceful, calm or nice and the water was meh. We won't ever return. I'm a weekly beach person, I visited from FL. I get the tourist beach vibe (FL is nothing but tourist), But North Beach GA was something else.

We love this beach but never used to go because of the lack of showers/bathrooms. This however will no longer be an issue. They just built brand new facilities to accommodate to everyone's needs. This is great.

We have had some wonderful walks along the North Beach. Often you can see the giant boats carrying freight entering the Savannah River.

You'll find all sorts of neat shells and rocks on North Beach. We attempted to look for shark teeth, but unfortunately didn't find any. I also spotted the shell of a horseshoe crab along the shore; that was pretty cool! The waves were quite rough that day, so none of us swam, but we still had a good time here.

Nice beach. Not crowded. Has changing rooms and clean bathroom
$2 hour to park. We found lots of shells past the jettys.

We're from the west coast where most places are dog-friendly if you have a well-behaved and especially small dog. The minute we walked onto the beach, someone tells us we might be fined $500 if they caught us there with a dog... wow, never heard that before, not sure if it's true, but we believed them because we had just walked out from the Lighthouse Museum nearby which didn't allow us to go in, even with my small 12-pound super friendly well-trained Maltipoo. Apparently the council (maybe the city maybe the museum) voted to not be dog-friendly. Well, it apparently doesn't hurt their business because they were super-packed, but I won't be visiting Tybee Beach again anytime soon. It was a wasted drive there and back because there was no place I could go with my small dog... I think maybe 2 restaurants on the entire island had outdoor seating that "allowed dogs."

It was so good, always clean and safe for children and near to our hotel apartment, good food. People were nice at all times if help from travelers were needed!

The beach is very nice, clean, and one is able to walk a good distance without shoes to avoid sand loaded with crushed shells. I was not used to paying for parking.

With North Beach Bar and Grill right there, the lighthouse in the background, and its corner location.. I Love this spot.

the North Beach of Tybee is beyond perfect! There is no crowds like on the other beach on Tybee, and if you are looking to pick up seashells and things to take home this is the place for you! It was too cold for us to swim, but just being in the sand made our trip!

Want to go to the beach and not deal with the over-zealous crowds of people? Check out North Beach....still beautiful Tybee Island but not so commercial and over-crowded. Plenty of open sand and beach to walk, ride or swim. Enjoy!

From Savannah go East. It is a beautiful drive and there are lots of boats to look at along the way. Don't rush, take your time and take in as much as you can.

We visited the Fort Pulaski National Monument and stayed at the River's End RV Campground & RV Park, and took a stroll from the RV Park to the Tybee Lighthouse and the North Beach Facility. There are some interesting structures along the route, which weren't open during our short visit.

Clean, uncrowded and a peaceful spot to enjoy the beach! I highly recommend the North Beach for families who don't mind being outside of the main attractions.

A little out of the way, but a nice beach near the lighthouse. Parking is $2 an hour, and the meters take cards. There are also some nice bars I the area.

The North Beach access has been closed since the hurricane last fall because they're still cleaning up the debris but it is still worth going there! I prefer this beach because there are less tourists and more shells and other treasures to find in the sand. If you park in the lot (pay parking) you can go into the bathroom there. However, if you are willing to walk, there is public beach access further down the street. In the winter we obviously don't swim, but you can take a picnic and a bucket to look for shells.

Beautiful weather, spent the day at the beach just to get a citation. We didn't see the sign and broke the rule. The lady came by where we were sitting soaking it in driving a really nice Kawasaki Mule 4x4. We waved and said hello being friendly. She circled around us and wrote us each a ticket. No warning or attempt at correction. Just a huge $300 fine for each of us. Beware of Tybee rules, they are money making on easy going vacationers. Some folks told us that locals don't want tourists there. Maybe that's why we got taken advantage of.

Nice dip after bike riding to the Tybee Lighthouse. Dock/pier walk with gazebo sitting area and then a 'blue carpet' out into the sand, interesting and worked as a good transition for tiny toes on tots! Maybe it's psychological but the water was cooler than in South Beach; whatever the case, it was still great! Encountered several smokers on the beach which wasn't cool AND they had kids.

If you want crowded beach this is NOT for you but if you like a less crowded beach that still has rental chairs/umbrellas this is you. We loved this beach far more than south beach. The beach is clean, life guard stations, chair/umbrella rentals available. There is pay parking in the lot but that is everywhere at the beach on Tybee. Right by the lighthouse so you can do that first or do what I did and send the hubby and son to climb it while I sat on the beach and waved. There are clean bathrooms, showers and private changing huts which south beach lacks. Also North Beach Grille is in the parking lot with better than average good and good cocktails.

Clean, beautiful soft sand, and the waves weren’t rough, but we all know that can change. People of all ages were laying out, taking walks, building castles, etc.. Everyone is so polite, and seemed to be respectful of the beaches. Very easy access!!

Nice beach. Restaurant is right by the fort walls. Large parking lot but it fills up fast. Beach was clean. If course on a nice day the beach can get very crowded.

We took the kids to North Beach mainly for them to gather Shells. They spend almost 2 hours collecting shells. The beach is very quiet and clean. Lots of Shells so be careful walking bare foot.

Beautiful beach, not crowded, can watch the large ships come into the Savannah port, can spot dolphins.

Two years ago when visiting Tybee I ate at the North Shore -- they had fabulous chicken wings and great hand-cut fries. This year I went, yearning for those wings, only to find their menu had been totally revamped. Tuna wontons? Please. North Shore is a funky plank-floored bar/eatery with a big outdoor deck and umbrellas right off the north beach at Tybee (where the Savannah River enters the ocean). To add insult to injury, the hamburgers we ordered were overdone and service practically nonexistent. Staff were more interested in hanging out with each other than waiting. We were also the ONLY two people in the restaurant. Not a good sign.

The North Beach seemed pretty nice. There's a changing area and the North Beach Grill is right there. ((You have to pay for parking, however.)
We enjoyed the swing and walked around a bit when we first arrived. Went again after a rainstorm and was surrounded by bugs, so it wasn't as pleasant.
Would have liked to see the sand sculptures, but we heard they were moved to South Beach.

Finding fresh shark fins washed up on the North Beach totally ruined my experience. I had enjoyed hours of walking on the beach and wading in the waves before coming across two fresh shark fins in the sand with clean cuts at the base. I was snapped back to the reality that Tybee's wildlife isn't as untouched as it may seem. I did some research when I got home and discovered that since 2014, Savannah has become the #1 exporter of shark fins in the US. This was really upsetting and will prevent me from spending my tourism dollars in this region until the trade is banned.

Nice beach, parking is difficult so arrive early. Facilities are clean and it offers a nice food selection

The North beach has fewer people Its a beautiful beach and you are right by the Light House I really enjoyed walking the beach such a relaxing place Tybee Island has the best beaches its a nice place to visit with the family

I had the cheeseburger, rare, my wife had the Citrus Shrimp salad, both were very good, service was also great. This is a must stop on Tybee Island when we go.

North Beach is more relaxed than the main beach on Tybee Island. It's right across the street from the lighhouse, too. No shopping here and only one full serve rrstaurant. There are new restroom facilities but the snack bar is still under construction so bring what you need. Be aware that although there is a parking lot it is small and like elsewhere on the island parking is at a premium. This is a food place to go if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the more crowded beaches further south

We visited late in the day, the beach was very open and uncriwded, enjoyed everything about it. The walk the view was spectacular, sunset gorgeous. Sounds soothing. What more could you ask for.

We camped at River's End campground for a long weekend and North Beach was only three blocks away. Plenty of parking, only $2 hour, with changing rooms, bathrooms, and a bar/grill. I saw other reviews that talked about too many shells and needing shoes, but where we were was nothing but soft sand. Swings in front of the dunes were a plus, as well as the mat extending from the boardwalk for wheelchairs and strollers. Loved it!

We went on a windy, cool day, so it may get crowded but wasn’t when we were there. There were bench swings set up around the beach. It was so relaxing to swing and watch my young kids play in the sand. There were food options on the beach and restrooms available to the public.

This beach has parking you pay for. It is next to the Lighthouse and old garrison. There are several Boardwalks that take you to the beach, where you can walk around the point if you wish to.
We came to look at birds and the huge container ships as they leave the Savannah harbor. There is a grill if you are hungry, but not as many places to eat as the other end of Tybee Island.

The Hubby and I decided to getaway and enjoy the beach. We had a marvelous time. It was tranquil and relaxing. We will visit again; a great experience.

Good place to eat. Varied menu. Specials everyday. Homey atmosphere and lunch and dinner outside if you wish. Nothing fancy and food tends to be a little spicy, but a place where most locals like to come and eat. Food prepared fresh this it might take a little time to be served especially in season. No free parking but plenty of space if you don't mind paying $2 an hour. Overall pleasant time and food's not bad.

We got far enough south to miss the extremely bad weather in Charleston. Got three great afternoons on the North Beach of Tybee Island. Not very crowded due to the weather. Water was a little rough, especially on the second day, but was still good to wade through and enjoy. We watched kite surfers on one of the days. It was like having our own entertainment while we enjoyed the afternoon. Beach was clean, and paid parking was a very close walk on a wood walkway, so beach access was easy. All parking on Tybee is paid, but the pay stations except credit cards, which makes it very easy. Also love North Beach due to the local pub, next to the beach access. Can take food or drink to go down to the beach.

We headed to the beach after the Lighthouse museum. You may need to stalk some people leaving the beach for parking, but we didn't have an issue (waited about 10 minutes). There are bathrooms and outdoor showers available in the parking area.
We rented beach chairs and umbrellas (cash only) and started our relaxing time at the beach. We did not realize that a good portion of the beach has about an inch thick of crushed or very tiny shells! It was really cool at first, but not great to step on. Be mindful of that! And wear sunscreen! It can get hot!

We rented a condo on North Beach and we were very happy with our choice. This part of the island is less populated so the beach was peaceful and extremely clean. We really liked being away from the crowded beaches.

Beach was clean, but there was only one restaurant to eat at, didn’t try it as I had eaten at the Crab Shack prior, highly recommend that place! The beach could use some more food choices and there was no stores to buy souvenirs. I was told South Beach would have all of that. So if you want just a beach go here, if you’d like food choices and shops go to South Beach.

What a beautiful and peaceful beach. We cam here after stopping at Tybee Island Beach. We wished we would have come here first. This beach isn't nearly as crowded as Tybee Island Beach by the pier. They have several swings along the beach where you just sit and relax. The lighthouse makes a beautiful backdrop for pictures. Sitting in those swings on this beach was our favorite thing on our vacation to Georgia!

Decent beach with showers and changing rooms. Also has North Beach Bar & Grill which is a HUGE bonus! Great food and craft beers. Lots to do in the area with the lighthouse and museum. Fun for the entire family and half the crowds of South Beach. Definitely recommended.

This is our favorite place to hang out on Tybee. We love renting a home or condo in the North Beach area. It's quieter over here and much less busy than mid-island or the South Beach area. Sometimes we are the only people on the beach here and even when it's the busy season, there's still plenty of space - especially the closer you get to the Savannah River end, in front of Lighthouse Point condos and around to Savannah Beach and Racquet Club condos. We love watching all the dolphins and the ships and shrimp boats. I've even added some free apps (Shipfinder, FindShips) to my phone so I can get more info on the big ships. The North Beach Grill is a great place to eat, and if you ever get tired of the beach (!) you can stroll around the Lighthouse grounds.

Got there about 11:00am and found plenty of parking and pay to park kiosks. Not cheap to park. Beach was not too crowded. Sand and water were what you would expect on the Atlantic side. Lots of school kids while we were there. Would definitely come again if we had time.

Nice beach, love the swings, nice boardwalk to access the beach, near the lighthouse. great place to visit!

A quieter place to hang out compared to the beach by the pavilion. They finished new bathrooms, changing rooms, snack bar and showers for folks right next to the North Beach Bar and Grill. We love spending quiet time here.
Lots of parking however the huge lot is currently being used for all the tree debris left from Hurricane Matthew.

Well, we had just come from the Gulf Coast with crystal clear water. It's not a fair comparison to the more brownish water here. More intriguing is the big tidal changes which allow for fun exploring as well as different sorts of water activities depending on tide. Dolphins we saw were so close! Lots of horseshoe crabs. A few lifeguards but spread out. Ample space on beach. Beach was clean, hard, though, to anchor umbrella in hard sand sometimes.
Parking is pay parking (we camped on island so rode bikes and didn't need to pay). Nice bathrooms and rinse off showers near parking lot.
Enjoyed!

Group with children 7-18 all very happy. Long, gradually sloping beach gives lots of room to wade in water that's knee deep or less and lots of exposed wet sand for shell searching and castle building. We went as the tide was going out, but I understand there can be rapid water level increases and rip currents as the tide comes back in. Might consider this with young children.
Public changing areas and showers right on the beach with one small restaurant provides convenience without congestion. The lighthouse and a Spanish-American War era coastal battery are adjacent to the beach. You can tour both (fee required) if it's not Tuesday. We didn't tour them, but the lighthouse and rock jetties makes for a great photo backdrop.

Love the new boardwalk area by the North Beach parking. Changing stalls, showers, and clean restrooms

At the mouth of the Savannah River and the Atlantic Ocean ,it's a great place to see Dolphin. New bathrooms and changing rooms. Visit Ft Screven and the TYB lighthouse at the same time.

Of course it was early in the season, but there were a lot of folks on the beach. Some playing in the ocean!1 Water was COLD. But really clean area.

North Beach was a very nice beach. Unfortunately, the grill was closed when we were there. There is nothing else around other than the lighthouse. It was cold when we were there, but the beach would be a great place to hang out for the day.

Nice and clean! Beautiful beach! We had so much fun. Will definitely visit again! Even with a pandemic going on, people were respectful about distance! A great get away!

North beach is definitely the quieter, less busy beach in Tybee. You can still rent chairs and umbrellas here. Easy parking. They had showers and a change room as well.

Beautiful, clean, not too commercial beach....water was fantastic - very kid friendly and nice people abound!

After searching, in vain, for parking hear both central and south beach, we stumbled upon North Beach, and were NOT disappointed. The beach was pretty much wide open. and there were only about 6 groups scattered across the entire area. The sand was soft and clean, the water was delightful and it was really pretty quiet. Really enjoyed our time in the sun. Best of all, the parking was close and cheap! Great place.

This is a lovely and relaxing beach to stop at for a bit. There is lots of visual interest here, including a pretty lighthouse behind you, swings to sit on, driftwood and tons of shells to see, and rock formations in the water. Not much to do but chill on the beach! The drive out here from Savannah is beautiful too.

A Must visit to the North Beach Bar Grill! The ultimate beach bar! Frozen cocktails are their specialty! Gotta try the fish bites.

Not a lot of wave action but not overly crowded. A perfect get away. You can always take a long walk and get closer to crowds. But that wasn't what I was looking for.

North beach was beautiful & we had a great time in the Atlantic! We did encounter some rain & it cleared up quickly & we were able to enjoy our time on the beach.

Nice beach for Georgia, but not the turquoise water of Florida panhandle. Well kept beach and no seaweed.

Conveniently located just across the street from the Tybee Island Lighthouse and just off the beach, we enjoyed a wonderful lunch after our morning lighthouse tour. They have some amazing salads that are true meals in themselves—very refreshing. Definitely recommend North Beach Restaurant.

We love North Beach area as it seems to be less busy than down toward the pier. But one draw back is a lot of house that you rent in that area have a long walk to the beach. This past week when we were there, we stayed down past the Police Station on Captains View and the walk was difficult especially when you have younger children and older parents.
Some work to lengthen board walks and also for rental companies to let you know the distance the walk is before you rent would be nice.

Our family visited on a Wednesday for a beach day during our trip to Savannah. We arrived about 10:15 and parked on 8th street in a spot with no trouble. We did not want to be at the pier with the rest of the crowd. We had no trouble using the app and paying to park, though it is the most expensive parking we’d had in our stay. We found a spot without people close to us and enjoyed the water. Our school age children just wanted to be in the water the whole time. The waves were rough that day, but we had a great time getting tossed about and body surfing. For lunch, we walked down to the pier. It was good walk from there, but we saw the advantage of being a bit down from the crowd. We ate at the pavilion from the grill. It was food you’d expect from a beach stand. There were also restaurants, including pizza just past the pavilion on the (15th?) street. We had nachos, hamburger and hot dog selections. The pavilion had bathrooms that was just for using not changing. We walked back to our towels and had more time in the water. We did not see showers that day but later found a single rinsing station at the end of the pavilion.

Head’s up absolutely no dogs on beach even in low season….and very expensive parking. We went to explore, paid our parking fee and found nowhere to go. You can walk around the parking lot with your dog….pass.

My husband and I made a stop on Tybee Island on our way out of Savannah. We stopped on North Beach and looked at the Lighthouse. The beach was not too crowded and very clean. We enjoyed sitting on the wooden swing just gazing across the water. The Lighthouse was closed the day we were on the Island. There are old forts still in the area. There is a small restaurant close to the beach.

Such a pretty and tranquil beach! The sand is comprised of a ton of crushed shells (and some whole!) that's perfect to walk and search for shells.
We saw a dolphin playing right off the coast. The sand, water and amenities are super clean. In fact, the restroom are is one of the cleanest public places I've ever been to. I was super impressed.
There's a lot of public parking, too. And great restaurant options in walking distance! Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a few beach hours, lunch/dinner and maybe a tour (the Fort and Lighthouse are here) then North Beach is the first and only stop you need to make on Tybee! Park your car once, (pay $2/hr 8-8 365 days everywhere on Tybee) and you can have a meal at North Beach Grill, visit the Fort or the Lighthouse Museum and go swim in the ocean! Also, there are changing rooms, showers, foot rinse stations, and Bathrooms here as well as a seasonal snack bar so it's our favorite beach on Tybee. If you want shops/multiple restaurants then go visit the Pier area beach but we prefer North Beach since it's the first beach when you get onto the island and has everything we need.

This side of the island is the best, so quiet and peaceful, we love it. No one bothers anything, you can leave your things and take a long walk and not worry.

This is a nice quiet beach to take a long walk. It’s not very crowded and the sand is quite soft. Not a lot to see along this stretch of beach but nice for a relaxing walk with your feet in the water.

We went for low tide and walked out on the sand bar. It was absolutely beautiful! It can be a bit of a walk, but it is totally worth it.

Sadly, there is no longer a shuttle from Savannah to Tybee island, so we rented a car. The public restrooms are very clean. There are changing booths and outside showers to rinse the sand off. Parking is $2/hr. North Beach is lovely. I hope to return some day.

Tucked away this beach tends to be less populated. It was beautiful for my family to enjoy which we were visiting Tybee Island.

My Honey wanted to go to Tybee to lay on the beach. She did and we had a great time. the waves were pretty strong.

Stopped off for a beer and quick bite after a day on the beach. Place was packed. Lots of locals, always a good sign. Great beach bar with live music. Great inside and outside bar. Food great. Fish bites, seafood nachos, and great sandwiches. Beach parking lot there, so parking is limited.

Being little public access to the beach it is very quiet in comparison to the ocean beach. Also there are much smaller waves and west of the point almost no current.
In years past the bottom had a lot of sediment but my thought is Hurricane Matthew cleared it all out.

If you are looking for a less crowded area of beach, North Tybee is the place. There is no pier at that part of the beach in Tybee, but if you just want a relaxing beach outing, it is great.

Beautiful, quiet, calm beach. Much less crowded than the south end of the island. Lots of sights to see like dolphins :)

Good waves for kids to jump and a nice constant breeze made this the favorite for our family vacation. We had beach beach access to a different beach but the kids really liked North Beach for the sand and the waves. Each time we were there it was a nice family beach.

Located near the Tybee Lighthouse. More crushed shells than soft sand. Local favorite...less touists. Shallow waterm waves not as large as on main Tybee beach. Has North Beach Grill. Changing rooms and baths new this past year. Long walks around beach

Beautiful quiet beach. This is a great place to pick shells. We did have to pay for parking here but is was quite cheap.

The day our family went it was not crowed, beautiful area, food and beverage close by. It's your typical Atlantic beach. Very clean, breezy, family friendly. There's nothing, that I would say, sets it apart.

We stayed in a condo with our family. We did not have to worry at all about social distancing because the beach was nearly empty every day. It is a nice beach to walk and there is always something to see.

If you must go to the beach, North Beach on Tybee Island odd the better choice. Good access. Parking. Less honky tonk, less kitch, not as much shopping. Place to eat well, play in the sand and enjoy the waves.

This end of the island is where you get to catch the big cargo ships coming in. This is a must see. Seeing them is a big WOW

Just happened to find North Beach when visiting lighthouse and beach. What a great place to eat. Plenty of beach vibe. Food was delicious. We had the fish poboy and black and blue burger. Both were delicious. Staff were very friendly. Prices reasonable. Good beer selection.

Busy during the day with limited pay to park spots. Evenings and mornings not too packed. Weekends are busier. There are 3 boardwalks from the parking lot.

Tucked away from the crowds of south beach. Park in the public lot and take a 1/4 mile walk down to the point. You will catch an unbelievable sunset with glorious pictures of the sand dunes and lighthouse. Very easy to social distance too!

Love the North Beach area - It is family oriented and beautiful. Great sunrise views! They just remodeled the bathrooms and added bath houses that are really great for families as well!

Spent the day fishing here. Kind of tough to catch anything using artificial bait but I did manage to land a couple of small ones.

All of the beach areas on Tybee Island are beautiful. The sand is soft and the beaches were all clean. Since you are at the mouth of the Savannah River entering the Atlantic, you can sit on the beach and watch the cargo ships come in.

Great beach to watch sea birds during late December-early January. We saw enormous numbers of oyster catchers, skimmers, gannets, terns of all kinds, and gulls of all kinds, including a Napoleon gull (small but commanding presence).

Anyone that is a nature lover can admire the beauty displayed here. We were fortunate enough to visit on a day where the weather was in our favor. Nothing better than strolling with someone you care about and admiring the gift our universe has given us.

We enjoyed our visit to the beach...the water was warm..not that crowded for a Friday...short walk to reach the beach.
The sand is not very soft, but we had a great time...

The north beach is a quiet spot, we almost had the beach totally to ourselves every time we went. Great for walking, shell looking and bird watching.

North Beach is right next to the lighthouse, what a great beach and they have food and drinks also. Nothing but sand sea and dolphins.

We stopped here for lunch. I had a very good crab cake sandwitch, my wife had the mahi. Nice patio, S little bit back from the beach. Close to fort and lighthouse. A worth while stop.

Drove down many hours to visit only to get a ticket for parking in a lot where there is not one sign diriceting you to pay to park. We bought ice cream for 2 and it was close to twenty dollars. The whole island is a big money grab. Sad to see that.

My husband and I visited late Moday morning in December. There was no one else on the beach as far as we could see. i had to put my feet in the water, quite cold (it was December). No swimming but had a nice relaxing walk on the beach. Hardly any waves. We did get to watch several ships going in and out of the mouth of the river. I've visited this area in warmer months and I have to say I prefer this less crowded area to the south part of the island.

We walked from one beach to another so I am not sure what is the difference between Mid Beach, North Beach, and all the other beaches on Tybee Island. We only know we enjoyed the clean, white sandy beaches and all good seafood that was available near by.

This is probably the quietest beach I have ever been to. No matter what time of day we decided to sit on the beach, there were plenty of spots to choose from. It is also very clean with no trash. I would have liked to see a bit higher waves, but since this beach is not right on the ocean, the waves are small except when a ship or boat passes by. We loved watching the many dolphins, birds and container ships as they passed by. It is also a good walking beach with very firm sand.

Not super busy. Lots of shells if you like to walk along the waters edge. Beautiful place to spend the day. Lots of parking.

The beach is well kept and made for a nice walk along the shore. There are facilities here and it is not busy in early spring.

I could just sit here all day and watch the waves crest and the sunset. The beach is super clean. We rented chairs and an umbrella and picniced and had a blast!

Parking is difficult. Downloaded app and paid via app and still got ticketed ($69). Turns out it was a misread of the plate and the very nice people at the parking office fixed the problem. The beach was crowded on a Tuesday in April. The beach itself just ok. Yes, I’m spoiled.

We truly enjoyed our visit to Tybee. We came to North Beach because we saw that they had bathrooms, showers and changing stations. I am so glad we did. We sadly found a dead hammerhead shark on the beach but the plus side was our 6 year old got to see a real shark. We will be back for sure and hopefully next time we can stay on Tybee Island.

North Beach is about a 3 minute walk from my house and a delightful beach to spend the day at. More family oriented then the beach on the southern end of the island. The just completed a new bath house and changing rooms, as well as a new snack bar. If you want too eat-in there is always the North Beach Grill which has amazing sandwiches and Seafood Nachos to die for!

Great beach. No lifeguards. Nice and quiet. Clean sand and no trash. Waves aren't real big, but that's good.

buying a parking ticket to park on Tybee entitles you to park in a public spot anywhere on the entire island - NOT residential parking. North Beach has much nicer bathrooms, changing rooms and a cute bar & grill for food & drink-great place

Loved North Beach. Visited with my sister and her family on a beautiful March day. Thankful for the warm weather and lots of space for the kids to play.

We didn't plan on swimming in December, but wanted to check out this North Beach. It seems like it's the best place to be and a busy place during the summer. Sadly, it got hit pretty badly this summer (2016) from Hurricane Matthew. Currently, they are working on cleaning up debris and chopping up wood that was destroyed. And there was tons of it! (See photos)

This beach technically goes from the Savannah River south to The Curve/1st Street. North Beach is located at the mouth of the Savannah River surrounding Fort Screven. The parking lot across from the Tybee Lighthouse and behind the Tybee Museum leads out to the beach.
This is a great beach to watch the sunrise which I did one morning sitting in the life guard chair. You can go shelling, watch dolphins (not as good as Savannah River Beach) and watch container ships as they travel to and from the Port of Savannah. You can also watch plenty of birds at the North Beach Bird Viewing Area. Rental of chairs and umbrellas are available and there is plenty of pay parking at this beach, maybe not on weekends during peak season.
You can also watch the large container ships come in and leave, the morning of the sunrise the Cosco Development came into port, largest container ship to visit the east coast, it also passed through the Panama Canal and was the largest container ship to pass through that.
One of the bonuses for this beach Is the North Beach Bar, public restrooms and foot washing stations and some vending machines. I liked this beach due to not being super crowded and having access to bathrooms.

If you want to visit the beach and see the dolphins play and enjoy complete rest and relaxation this is the place. It's somewhat crowded at times but not as bad as the south end.

Here at Thanksgiving so beach was fairly vacant. Enough people so you didn't feel abandoned but basically had beach to yourself, and could take pictures or look for shells without interference. Good place to get a run in as well.

It was an overcast, windy day. The beach was not crowded. We love the easy parking. The restrooms and changing area is superb. Ramp to enter the beach over the dunes makes it easy for all ages. Nice sand, big beach, waves, tiny shells, Atlantic Ocean - Heaven on Earth.

Fun beach , cute shops, way better than expected. There are waves which my kids loved and the water is not too bad. I stayed on my float :-)

Right near the base of the lighthouse is pay parking, showers, bathrooms, snacks, short walk to the surf, and all the shipping traffic a 12-yr-old could want to watch!

I did like the beach very clean and they have wooden swings to sit and enjoy the quietness. They are free. however you haave to pay to park if you want to go to the beach

We just stoped by and took a few pictures, it was windy and cool. We are from Florida and it looks a lot like the beaches on our east coast, hard packed sand that you can drive on. The parking lot we stoped at was public and had bathrooms and a refreshment stand but we did not go in.

Beautiful and quiet, clean and lovely picture opps! North Beach Grill right at the entrance to the beach is a great place to eat, get a drink, and get some shade!

The beach was very clean and we had a great time on our visit! We are already planning our next trip!

The beach was very well cleaned, and it was easy to park. We were able to see many cool things like a pod of dolphins, pelicans feeding, and even found a sea star

Enjoyed walking the beach as it was covered with shells. My husband even saw a crab scurrying across the sand.

Went to North Beach to try for some fall red fish. Beach is mostly shells and and has some terrain to it with a slope before the water at low tide. If you have never been to a Georgia coast beach the tide shifts can be 8 foot plus so the amount of exposed beach changes drastically during the day. Now for the bad: be prepared for the parking cost at Tybee. It is one of the closest beaches from my house but we will drive past it due to the price. $2 an hour does not sound bad but a 8 hour fishing day is $16, stay for two days and the cost piles up!

Nice boardwalk and gazebo taking you to the beach...very clean and spacious...loved the swings...great views.

We visited North Beach close to sunset. It was quiet and majestic with the waves crashing on the rocks. We watched the cargo ships in the distance and walked on the beach. It was great.

Apparently almost everything is closed on the island on Tuesdays. You can still access the beach and facilities but most of the restaurants and other tourist spots were closed.
Visited in March (during our Spring Break which was a few weeks before Georgia's Spring Break) and the place was very empty and cold. The breezes off the water were cold. There were a few birds. Would have been great if we'd planned ahead and brought our own chairs to sit while the kids searched for seashells. The restrooms were big and clean. Lots of neat historical plaques. We would definitely come back when the weather is warmer.
Note - Available lot is Paid Parking via meter.
Tip - Bring your own chairs and buckets
13 year old - Liked searching for shells
8 year old - Liked searching for shells
3 year old - Liked playing in the sand

A wonderful place to leisurely walk in the water and watch the flocks of gulls and pelicans. Good for shelling.

Beautiful beach near the light house.quiet and peaceful. Make sure you do it miss this beautiful beach. Parking is $4 an hour. Worth a stop at this great Georgia Beach!

My wife and I just spent time down this end of the beach relaxing and walking. We enjoyed watching people and the waves were very calming

We went to this beach after not being able to access the beach at the pier. It is quiet and not crowded. We had a great time and will go again instead of the pier beach.

Very nice barrier island beach with facilities and cafe! Well worth the drive from Savannah. Will come back for a summer mini vacay

This is like a private beach! We got to see stingrays, dolphins, crabs, and fish and did not have to leave the beach! My all time favorite place!

Loved everything about Tybee Island Beach! Very calm, very clean white sand. It was beautiful and very enjoyable.

I have gone to Tybee Island a number of times since I live in Georgia but always wind up at the beach with the large pier just down from the local stores selling all of the tourist stuff. I was totally unfamiliar with North Beach which is directly in front of the old concrete fort near the lighthouse. Much less crowded. Hardly a parking spot left at main beach but ample parking there. Our friends who only live 15 minutes away never go the crowded beach—only North Beach. There is a pretty new bathroom facility adjacent to a bar with outdoor seating. Parking is metered but new meters take cards. Cost is $2.00 per hour. Just be sure to enter the slot where you parked. There is a nylon mesh walkway on the sand across the beach area past the protected dunes. Very handy. This is one wide sandy beach with facilities that you do not want to overlook like I did for years.

We started to walk around there, as we just took pics of lighthouse nearby. was told Saundra bullock frequents this beach as she lives close by on northside. We left as we didn't want to get ticketed.. didn't get to enjoy it.

North beach Tybee island is so calm and just relaxing. No there not busy restaurants or stores on north beach. Their enough restaurants in the area in walking distance are drive and get back to the beach and watch dolphins and big ships and the best sunset in USA. So peaceful and clam. Some nice condo and rental on north side. Never over crowded. Just sit back and relax.

This beach is quiet and also gave us excellent views for photographs of the lighthouse. It is a great beach for families and couples.

Check the tide charts, bring your bird book and plan to spend a while. Go at low tide. Please do not disturb the birds (sometimes people let kids run after them... not cool)

North Beach is always a family oriented beach very quiet nice to just go and relax is an awesome restaurant nearby for food and public restrooms as well pay for parking but well worth the quiet

Very nice quiet beach. Great for dolphin watching and watching the ships going to the Savannah river.

We stayed for one weekend at a condo at North Beach and went to the beach four times during our stay and there were very few people on the beach every time we went. There are trash cans and recycling bins located at each entrance to the beach so the beach was clean. We walked up and down the beach, watched the cargo ships go by, looked for shells, and played in the water. It was very relaxing and we had a great time.

I love this stretch of Tybee's beaches! It is not crowded even during the height of the season. It is a wide sandy curve from the ocean to the mouth of the Savannah River. there are numerous shore birds, pelicans, and dolphins. Shrimp boats pass by, sometimes with their nets out to the sides. You can find a variety of shells but larger shells are not very plentiful. It is the PERFECT place for a peaceful beach walk!

I love TYBEE. We come at least once a year. This is are favorite beach. The beach has great waves to ride and a cute little town.

nice beach access, easy parking, must pay. restrooms and showers new. Nice views of Hilton Head and the ships coming in and out. often see Dolphins and star fish

We were visiting nearby Tybee Island Light House Station. We walked across the street to collect shells on the beach. This is a beautiful, clean beach. There is a snack bar there, but we didn't visit it. It also appears they are building a new bathhouse with showers for beach goers.

We went to this beach to just walk along the beach and look for some shells. There were people swimming here, and you can. We just decided not to go swimming here. This beach was quiet. Not a lot of people here, which was nice. South Beach seemed much more crowded. If you want to get away from the crowds, come here! Great views of the Tybee Lighthouse. We found some shells, and definitely enjoyed the walk along the beach.

We visited North Beach two days in a row in June 2021. The first day was absolutely gorgeous. It was sunny and warm. The water was warm and calm and you could spend a lot of time just hanging out in the water. The beach was very crowded, about three families deep. The next day was cloudy and windy. The water was rough and red flag. The sand was blowing on you as you tried to relax in your chair. So, just like every other beach, the conditions really depend on the weather.
Each day we paid for parking from 10am-3pm and paid $27 each day. There are restrooms (port-a potties and an actual restroom a little farther away) as well as an outdoor shower to rinse off and changing areas. We didn't have any problem finding parking, but we arrived at 10am. I would guess later in the day if would be more difficult to find a spot.

We normally stay on South Beach each year and decided to try the North End. Boy was it worth it. Our view from the condo gave us a great view of the Atlantic, Hilton Head, and the inlet to the Savannah River.
Quite, Dolphins abound at this location. Gorgeous view of the Tybee Lighthouse (Station). Tons of shells, great place for early morning runs.
Less crowds, low noise, great stay.

We stayed in the condos off the north beach so it was just a few steps to the water. The beach is clean and the water calm. There are very few people on the beach so you don't have a problem being bothered by anyone. The water is warm and very shallow even when the tide is in. The beach is wide, firm and nearly level so walking is no chore.

Nice area to visit when going to the beach at Tybee. This beach is not a crowded as the one on the south end of the island so it was a nice stop. Great changing area and nice restaurant next to the parking area.

Perfect on the middle of the week not too many people, water not too cold, water was pulling in some but was sunny
Will do it again

We enjoyed our visit to North Beach. The facilities provided are nice and it is less crowded than the south beach area. This was my first visit, but definitely won't be our last.

I had a blast here while visiting with friend who had young babes. The party is by the pier. Only minus is the north beach grill, the wait pretty bad and no fans on the patio.

This is our favorite beach on Tybee because it has parking (you pay for parking EVERYWHERE on Tybee!) restrooms with an area to rinse off and change as well as a restaurant so you don't need to move your car! The lighthouse is right behind the restaurant so you can even do a tour there, or at the old fort right there too, if you want a break from just hanging out on the beach.

Clean beach, changing area with showers and good food. Most of the time it is not over crowed but well visited. Has a lighthouse to tour and other beach access on the main island.

Visited the beach everyday of our 7 days on the island. Lot's of shells to collect, dolphins swimming by. A great time.

Not dog friendly.I understand need to protect the beach and nesting areas, but no area of the beach are dogs allowed.. lazy on rhe behalf of the township.. oh well..planned to spend the day an return for a vacation.. not here

Not as crowded as South Beach during the week, but busy on the weekends! Nice view of the light house. Spotted dolphins. Child stung by man of war while we were there, life guards not prepared to help deal with this.

Decent beach area! Clean. Not the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen, but still pretty and a great place to visit!

The other reviews say it has few people, I would strongly disagree. I just went this morning (Sep 21) for some surfing lessons at the North Beach Jetties. By noon, there were so many people that it was almost impossible to navigate on the beach itself. I'm not saying it was beach towel to beach towel, but it almost was. I ended up having to finally get back to my car through the East Beach gate. The beach was clean though, and seagulls were everywhere.

North Beach is less congested than South Beach. We knew going in that Atlantic beaches just don’t compare to Emerald Coast beaches such as Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Destin, Panama City Beach, etc. We stayed in a condo “close” to the beach. As close as you can due to the protected dunes. We really couldn’t hear the waves from the condo due to the distance but the view was nice. There are both pros and cons that can be weighed. We wanted to explore Savannah so Tybee Island was a great way to have a land & sea vacation all in one!

One of the best spots on Tybee for serious long distance beach walking with few people to get in the way. Love the firmness of the sand that doesn't slow you down. Huge flocks of seagulls and many other birds pack the beach and it's fun to watch their nervousness as you approach and they try to decide whether to gun ahead or sideways or just take off! Beach runs close to a deep water channel and very often shrimp boats get close to view their operation. Always appreciate the ocean breeze and cooling effect! Great place to walk especially towards the end of the afternoon.

We visited in August so the summer crowds were gone. Very few people on the beach. We loved it. Enjoyed watching the cargo ships sailing closely by.

Phenomenal sunrises, and even better people. The island is as laid back as a recliner could ever be. Definitely recommend for any and all ages

I love going to North Beach because it is not as crowded. Plus the Jetty is a really good spot to look for shells.

We stayed right on this beach and it was absolutely beautiful. First time I have ever found Seaglass. Great place for family.

Enjoyed a Long Beach walk on North Beach. We were the only ones there! A storm was coming in and made for great photos. Beware of the black bugs that swarm so bring your bug spray. Lots of interesting beach finds.
We really enjoyed just walking on this beach multiple times. When we were there, it wasn't very crowded as the beaches on the south end of the island. This was very nice.
