Beautiful campus on Lake Michigan, great for a walk along the lake fill in spring, summer or fall. Of course very cold in the winter with the wind off of the lake. Despite the large campus, there is a nice community feel about it. Old architecture is wonderful, the newer buildings pale by comparison. Even if you don't have a child attending, I suggest attending an event on campus, there is lots of talent.

Walked the entire width and length of Northwestern University today. It’s a beautiful campus with many interesting new buildings alongside the more traditional and original edifices.
The walk along the waterfront of Lake Michigan, with the skyline of Chicago on the horizon, is always a pleasure.
A nice way to get outdoors, weather permitting.

Evanston's a great college town and Northwestern has a beautiful campus to visit. There is a lovely park to walk near the lake next to campus, away from traffic. One of its hidden gems is the Shakespeare Garden, a cozy little secret garden with herbs and flowers inspired by Shakespeare's writings. There is a small chapel near the garden. I'm not sure how many school buildings are accessible to the public, but if you are attending an event there, leave some time before or after to walk around.

Take a walk and enjoy the view of the lake and the Chicago skyline. The evanston campus is comprised of both older, beautiful buildings and newer more modern ones.

Beautiful campus located on Lake Michigan. Indoor football facility top notch. Walking campus near much to do in Chicago.

This university epitomizes all of what I think a quality college education should offer. Their students leave there well-rounded and prepared to take on the challenges of the world! The campus is beautiful and we found the student tour guides very enthusiastic about their school.

I know most who come to NU are parents and prospective undergrads but this is really interesting place to tour too. So just show up and tag along inconspicuously behind a young person recruiting undergrads.
Best food is at Kellogg biz school and "free" but I bet you need an NU card to have already paid and arm and a leg there. Not sure you can just go in and try to pay real $

Several friends have attended this school and I know a few faculty here. Each offers a positive perspective and recommends the university highly.

We don't have any kids stay in this nice University . But we got the high review so we give it a try. My most up date phone show me the way to find the parking. No way to , no out let; where is the sign show me the visitor parking? When I found that sign. Didn't show the more detail where should I park or how to get the ticket? Turn around back to the city find my the other fun thing. Not feel great.

Been associated with NU in one way or another since 1977 (when I graduated from NU Kellogg). I've watched a beautiful traditional campus become a truly awesome campus. NU reaches out to the community. NU Block Museum is a wonderful. Most all NU sports teams are competitive and it's generally easy to get tickets. There are many on campus concerts, speakers, etc. Suggest checking ahead for events on campus when you visit.

A wonderful campus by the lake! You can stroll by the lake and see Chicago on a clear day - Loved it!

Northwestern is known for its outstanding academic programs. It is also a beautiful campus with classic buildings along the shore of Lake Michigan. Watching a football game at Ryan Stadium is always a treat. Great schools of Journalism, Business, Medicine, Law and several other academic and professional programs.

If you're in the vicinity, you really should walk this campus. It's beautiful. There is lots of new construction and many older buildings in a rather eclectic mix hugging the shores of Lake Michigan. The university even has a beach and sail boat rentals as well as a number of great concert halls (check to see what's playing). I enjoyed my day on campus, and I went to their cross-town rival, the University of Chicago.

Northwestern University is well known for its excellence and quality of its faculty members. Evaston is privileged to have this university in its neighborhood.

Excellent school for the young curious minds. Especially graduating programs. They also do a lot of community outreach programs in music, lectures, visits to planetarium and special programs for the gifted high school kids. Well done.

Stunning campus. Beautiful to walk thru ...makes you wish you went to school here. The lake and the grounds attract students and locals alike. Beautiful view of Chicago.

Great campus to visit. They have a good football stadium called Ryan Field where the Wildcats play. I also liked the fact that they have a beach right by the campus. What more could the students ask for in summer.

I was there for a conference and had a wonderful time. The campus is stunningly beautiful in the summer. To me it felt like it's a huge park with some buildings scattered in it. There is lots of shade which is really nice in the summer. Also, you get a prime view of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago (in the distance), especially from the rooftop in Kellogg Hall of Management. Awesome stuff!!

My wife is an NU alum and our daughter is a current student. NU combines the highest educational standards and a community with everything that a college student or visiting parent could want. Although the weather is cold and unpredictable through the winter, a sunny day invites a walk on the beach, a bike ride or jog along the lake trail, or a visit to nearby Chicago.

My wife and I went to Ivy schools on east coast, and both agree that Northwestern has a ton to offer...and you don't have the baggage and elitism of some schools. Midwest is refreshing versus coasts. Setting is spectacular (granted might be tough in winter with arctic air coming off lake!), facilities are spectacular (have one of largest endowments and it shows), kids are motivated and accomplished. Grad schools are amongst best. And you can bike to major city in an hour if you want...

We dropped off our son for his freshman year and spent 4 days in and around campus on various parent functions held by the university. What a gorgeous campus and the views of the lake are spectacular, even with the cold breeze coming off the water. I think even if you are just visiting Chicago this is a nice side trip if you have the time and Evanston is a great town to shop and eat.

Check out this great school and see if you want to go there, its a good one but be prepared for
the lake effect of great spring, fall and summer winds but gotcha in the winter.....
Always highly rated!

Definitely worth going by the water, as I did when going for a run, when I had to be there for business.

The most beautiful campus sitting on the lake shore of Lake Michigan. Students can attend athletic events for free. Rated as
the 4th smartest college in the US. Located in the very nice town of Evanston.

Of course, there is always something happening at NU. And, the campus s beautiful, even in Winter. The basketball program is making history this year.

I'll be brief. If your kid is accepted and you can afford it just enroll and study hard!
We were there for the WAA MU show. Wife is an alum as is our son and son-in-law is Kellogg MBA.

Beautiful campus, with awesome architecture, loads of history, and excellent eateries. Great police protection as well.

A Sunday stroll through Northwestern University provided spectacular views if Downtown Chicago. Not crowded, we were able to leisurely walk on the wide, paved pathway along the northshore. From unique messages (some inspirational, others whimsical) inscribed on the boulders along the shore to a variety of places to sit, relax, and talk made for a great afternoon. We finished our visit by taking in the impressive NU campus.

Highly recommend checking out this campus if you're in the area. It's lakeside and generally just very beautiful. We walked around, didn't do anything in particular, but if you're a fan of universities, you'll enjoy this one!

I have been associated with NU for many years. First as an undergraduate and now as a neighbor and taking/teaching classes at Olli (senior discussion classes).
The campus is very interesting to walk around, especially the lake front area in the spring, summer and fall. There are excellent concerts and art exhibits there. The architecture is very interesting.
Academically the university is outstanding.

I often take drives down just to see the campus. I have seen many of them around USA, and this one remains one of my favorites. It is very historical. As well, you get a sense of European architecture.

A great campus to walk around and take in the sights. Beautiful old buildings and gardens in the older section of campus, while the newer buildings are quite modern and closer to the lakeshore which gives you great views of the Chicago skyline

Our son just started at Northwestern, I have to say that it is the most beautiful campus that I've seen. I felt sorry that I had to leave! The town is gorgeous, with Victorian houses and tree-lined streets. My son's dorm is a block from the lake, so he has a wonderful view of the lake from the lounge on his floor. The town is a short walk away, with tons of restaurants and shops.

Really enjoyed visiting the campus. It is a great walking campus with lots to see. Especially liked the walk near the lake. I also found the food on the campus to be very good. Recommend seeing the church on campus.

It’s a nice university that makes for a pleasant walk. You can visit the Great Lake and even get a bite to eat at a bagel shop. If you get lost looking for food near campus, you might end up accidentally discovering the nuclear physics lab. Just peruse through like you belong there. In any case, it’s a must see in Evanston!

A gorgeous and safe campus with amazing beaches and water views to boot! Have some of the best students and top professors in the world.

Even if you have no interest in the University it offers a beautiful walk along the lake and past many interesting historic University buildings.

As a former student and then 27 years of teaching in the medical school, I co tinge to marvel at the beauty of this campus. Head to the lakefront and the many walking paths and you'll have a wonderful outing.
Beware the parking regulations but weekends have many spots free and the walk on the lakefront, with views of Chicago are excellent. If you continue south the Evanston lakefront is almost as nice with many mansions facing the water.
A walk or bike ride will make a nice outing.........

College campus is really organized and the location is very beautiful. Buildings are nice and have both natural and architectural view.

We live near the Northwestern Campus and it is a favorite destination for a weekend bike ride. We especially love the Babara Hepworth sculptures, the Shakespeare garden, sitting on - and reading - the colorfully painted rocks along the lake, biking around the lagoon, and a dellicious lunch La Frontera Grill in the student center.

A great place for a walk outside, along the lake. Never crowded and tons to see. The buildings are a wonderful mix of old and new architecture. Don't skip the waterfront - the boulders painted by students are an installation all their own.

If you want to visit a typical American University Campus, Northwestern Evanston Campus is THE TOP. Evanston, IL is home to a prestigious, private university famous for several of its undergraduate and graduate schools: journalism, business, drama, material science, medicine, bio sciences, computer science, religion and others. It is home to an old library with several million titles, advanced theater, chapels, gym, private hotel, university beach, artificial lake, stadium (it is off Campus but not far away). Campus is located in a beautifully manicured park on Michigan Lakefront. Make sure it is a nice day when you visit.

The university as a very good Serene environment that is good for learning, from discussion with the student, the school standard of learning is very high. The only thing is the school is high compare to other ones around.

This is the prettiest university I have even been to. The buildings are magnificent and the library is big! You have nice view from the university to the Chicago skyline.

Northwestern University is perhaps what Evanston is most famous for and for good reasoning. The campus is clean, gorgeous and each building clearly tells a story. It is very safe to walk around, and full of diversity wherever you walk.
The best part of the campus is obviously Lake Michigan. Make sure to not miss that when visiting Northwestern’s campus. It’s not everywhere that you find a university that’s right on a lake, let alone, a Great Lake!
Some buildings are obviously nicer than others but overall, a beautiful, well-maintained campus at a world-renowned university.

My daughter attends NU and loves it. Right on the water, beautiful buildings and green space, safe. Lots of areas to explore. I particularly enjoy the Shakespeare Garden and views from the new Admissions building. Nice that it's so easy to get downtown to Chicago from campus as well. Great vibe, nice people, excellent academics.

I loved my time at Northwestern- what a beautiful campus! Wonderful buildings, architecture, the "lake fill", fraternity and sorority quads, great place to visit even if you're not a student

I've been to over 100 university campuses. The only one that has a more beautiful setting, that I've seen, is UCLA. The Lake Michigan setting at Northwestern is stunning, the buildings inspiring--everything from classical to modern (but not the usual brute 60's/'70's monstrosities). And, the town of Evanston is student friendly and cosmopolitan, with good restaurants and interesting stores.

We live in Little Rock, Arkansas. We toured four universities on our son’s fall break, ending with Northwestern. We already knew we liked the campus from previous visits and tour solidified the like of the Northwestern as a University. Yes, it’s expensive to attend and very competitive to be admitted, but the quality of education, the potential for future success and the environment in which it all happens is unmatched. I envy those who are able to call Northwestern University as their Alma Mater. I wish I could go back to school myself!

I am an alumni. Brought my daughter here to explore and tour, as she is considering applying. High end modern facilities with excellent programs. Mid size university punching way above its weight. In Evanston, small community feel with quaint shopping and excellent eateries. Great Lake side campus and views.

We love to drive to Northwestern and walk around the campus or shop and eat in Evanston. We had a son who went to Northwestern and we loved it as much as he did. Just walking around the campus and seeing Lake Michigan is so relaxing. I walked around and had my movie camera on to record what I was seeing as I hiked around. There is a huge pond on the campus plus we enjoy going in the Norris Student Center. You can eat or have a snack in the Norris Student Center and there is also a shop to buy Northwestern clothing. It is always fun to find a new sweatshirt, etc. Our son was in a fraternity which is now a dorm. That is sad that so many fraternities are turned into dorms. This is an expensive University but what an outstanding education one can get. We always try and keep up on the Wildcat football team games that are on TV. Go Northwestern!

Fantastic location and facilities.
Great educational level.
Multiple choice of different careers.
The right place to become a professional.
Surrounded by parks and downtown Evanston.
Close to Chicago (train takes 20 min to downtown).

We attended a reunion here so many improvements have been made. It’s a superb educational institution, but it also has a world class location on the lake in a serene suburb north of Chicago. You have downtown close, but the campus is awesome. 😎

A beautiful campus right on Lake Michigan. The buildings are a nice mixture of old and new. It is a great walking tour with stunning views. The students were friendly and we felt very welcomed on campus.

The Kelogg Center is the conference center for the business school. However, some Dean or other collected Inuit art. So we wandered around among conference goers, checking out wonderful carvings and paintings. Museum quality work. A long walk from the Hilton Garden Innl, but on the lake, so you can get some lake views as well.

The university is fantastic and I had a wonderful time researching at their Management School. The campus is also very beautiful, in case you just come by to visit.

The student-led tour of the NW campus was informative and good, but the overall program was a bit lacking, compared with University of Chicago, which we did the following morning. I didn't feel like they were really trying to sell us the school. It was very run-of-the-mill information that would be available on the website. Campus is very beautiful, though, and you just can't beat the Lake Michigan coastline and what it has to offer the student life!

If you are visiting Chicago, and you are in Evanston then you must explore Northwestern University. You don't have to be a student to look around and seek what is hidden. With my wife and daughter, we made a day trip (it was hot & humid) but we enjoyed it! The campus is great and what makes it even better is access to the beach area, park, garden (flowers), bike path, and much much more. You need to spend some time here and just let it flow. I highly recommend it. Take your kids, parents, grandparents and have a great time! Enjoy!

Located right on the shores of Lake Michigan this is a must see campus. Go out to the small peninsula and you can get a great view of downtown Chicago. The students who were at the admissions table were fantastic! Friendly and informative, yet not overbearing. Great visit!

My middle son just graduated and we visites the campus after the ceremony. The buildings are very unique and elegant, the landscape is great and it is by Lake Michigan. If you are in Evanston, you must visit the campus.

I wanted to see the university with my family. It’s gorcious nearby the Michigan Lake . It gives a relaxing environment that you don’t want to leave here. I wish my both sons would enroll.

We were here while one of our teens did a Pre College Program this summer and were very impressed with Northwestern. The campus is beautiful and the facilities were amazing. If you are just having a look around be sure to check out the Arts Center and the view of Lake Michigan from the for the Music Building. The historic buildings are beautiful to see as well. Did I mention they have their own beach with a sailing facility? If you are thinking about coming to have a look, summer is a great time to check it all out.

Visited the Northwestern University campus to get some exercise and walk part of the campus. It's on like Michigan, so there was some pretty nice views of downtown Chicago. We had our chocolate lab with us, he enjoyed the walk and there were several places that had grass, which he loved to lay on and roll around.

Northwestern has a gorgeous campus and it spreads out in numerous neighborhoods. I like the area where there are walks along the lake- but those can be challenging in cold or windy weather! There are beautiful Gothic buildings, modern buildings and everything inbetween. The campus is less green than it used to be - but still beautiful. Look up the University's programs too- they do a lot of adult outreach and the programs can be truly excellent.

One of the things Chinese tourists often do is to seek out the finest colleges and universities in a city they visit; it reflects the value they place on education. Since my wife is from China, we HAD to visit Northwestern University when we were in the northern Chicago area. It was a Saturday so no classes were in session. But many people seemed to be walking about, including students enjoying the day. Aside from it's well-earned academic reputation, the campus in May was very very nice! If you have time take a walk on campus especially the part that borders Lake Michigan.

We are starting the college tours and Northwestern's is very good. Walkable campus and a beautiful location on Lake Michigan. I recommend one of the smaller school tours in addition to the general one.

I attended Kellogg several years ago so my opinion is a bit biased. The campus is beautiful with a mixture of traditional and modern architecture. As it borders the lake the views on that side are marvelous. Walking through the campus in the fall is especially memorable.
If you are fortunate enough to attend the EMBA program they provide an outstanding lunch for students. Parking is a bit of a problem except on weekend of course. They have great music program at the Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at the South end of the campus. It is a small hall so there are no bad seats but a full orchestra has to be shoehorned onto the stage. The campus is close to downtown Evanston so one could easily spend a day touring the campus as well as the downtown are which has great shops and restaurants as well.

This campus is breathtaking. The architecture is stunning..with a mix of old and new styles. Everything about the campus is lovely...the walkways, the gardens, the signs and most especially the view. You can look out at Lake Michigan and see downtown Chicago. Truly stunning.

Northwestern University is located in Evanston, north of Chicago along lake Michigan. The university is spread in a spacious, lovely green area and has many beautiful buildings and hidden romantic gardens (do not miss the Shakespeare garden), as well as large student center and visitor center overlooking the lake.

Northwestern is one of America's great universities and the surrounding neighborhood is a picture postcard "college town. It is the ideal exploring adventure for any family. The university has events such as theatrical productions, concerts, exhibits every day. These can range from comedy shows to rare book exhibits and from football games with 25,000 fans to a solitary walk along the shore of Lake Michigan. The campus features hidden gardens and even its own beach! The nearby neighborhood is full of cute little shops, cafes, and bistros. Dining can be anything form fast food to elegant! Be prepared for lots of student activity and more purple gear than you ever imagined.

We enjoyed our tour of Northwestern. As another reviewer said, it's the guides that help make it great. Beautiful setting, almost a small town feel, yet you can see the Chicago skyline from the lakefront. Honestly, the only negative was how much it would cost to attend.

The location - next to Lake Michigan, a wonderful neighborhood - Evanston, proximity to the windy city, liveliness of students of various ethnicities, mix of modern buildings and those directly from Harry potter movies, weather extremities and beautiful flowers around...there are just so many things to mention about this campus. My favorite activity is to run on the lake path and have my lunch there on a lazy sunday afternoon.

A mix of old and ultra modern buildings. Great location next to the lake. Lots of greenery and walkways, especially next to the lake. Beautiful campus.

Unlike many public universities, the student population is approximately 50% graduate and 50% undergraduate students.
Many programs within the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science are in the top 20 graduate engineering programs in the United Students (according to US News and World Report). Chicago and Evanston are great cities where you can live and go to graduate school!

Yes, I'm an alum -- two degrees. And yes, many in my family have degrees from Northwestern. So maybe I'm biased. But, NU truly is one of the top universities in the nation (I think it's in the top 10). Outstanding and expanding facilities... superlative faculty (including a recent Nobel Prize winner in chemistry)... and a relatively small student population add up to a powerful, well-funded private institution dedicated to both teaching and research.

Evanston is a cute college town really close to Chicago. The University itself is beautiful! Nice blend of older buildings and newer ones. The entire western border is on Lake Michigan. Nicest University we have visited and we hope to return next year!

Highly regarded university in a beautiful setting. The campus is huge and is right on lake Michigan with its own beach where you can rent kayaks and balance boards. The campus is a short walk to the main hub in Evanston where you can enjoy an eclectic assortment of food.

Couldn't go on campus as it was finals week, but got to drive around enough to get my son an idea what the campus looks like as well as the surrounding city.

The Block Gallery is a small museum that always has a fascination show that one probably cannot see anywhere else. One can start at the NU lakefront and continue walking south into the Evanston lakefront and Dawes Park. I you have time visit the Evanston Historical Society's center in the Charles Dawes mansion. He was a vice president under Calvin Coolidge. From there go west about 4 block to downtown Evanston.

Northwestern has a beautiful and unique campus located right on Lake Michigan. You can walk to a tiny stretch of beach or just stroll along the rocks and see the Chicago skyline. The architecture of the campus is a mix of "Ivy" and modern.

This is one of theaters run by NU faculty and this production was the most enjoyable theater experience this year for us. NU offers high quality theater year round and should not be missed. We are regular theater goers-mostly Broadway and West End. We are not big Sondheim fans and had never seen another production (or movie) of “Into the Woods”. Wonderfully creative use of sheets of paper for birds, hair, wigs, trees and giants! This was really a great experience: wonderful cast, wonderful production- as good as a Broadway or West End production. The day we went it was sold out. It has a short run, so hurry and get tickets! Highest recommendation

Both our children daughter and son have attended school here at this amazing university. Lots of green space, beautiful buildings some that are historic and others that are state of the art all adding beauty to the campus. It is nestled in a beautiful and historic town with lots of restaurants and cute shops near by. Parts of it are right on Lake Michigan. They have a great school spirit and support for the community doing lots of community service in the nearby areas and in downtown Chicago.

We have taken classes at the Evanston campus for some time. I am not a graduate of Northwestern, but my granddaughter is. The setting on the lake is beautiful. Great architecture.

Completely recovered from the riots several decades ago. Campus looks like a campus should look. A tasteful mix of old and new buildings and great landscaping.

A great place to go to school. Beautiful campus within a little town. A school located right on Lake Michigan.

oooh weee this is one pretty school. Drop in for a visit. Stroll the grounds. I stayed for 3 days, amazin.

You can get a better education for less money elsewhere. The location is very congested and parking is horrible.

My wife and I are both graduates and our daughter was fortunate to be admitted. Things have changed quite a bit since I was there in the mid-1980's. There are a number of new, impressive buildings. Walking on the lakefront is a joy as you can see the skyline of Chicago.

Be sure to take a look at the new Music/Communications building! The view into Chicago is spectacular.

Walked around campus on a Sunday afternoon. Quiet as most students were gone having recently graduated. There are many beautiful buildings (the library especially) and make sure you see the pond and walk along the lake front. Enough buildings were open so you can find bathrooms and water. I went to Michigan for my Master's and love that campus and Ann Arbor, but this was equally impressive plus has Lake Michigan. Drove through Evanston but didn't stop anywhere other than Northwestern.

The academics of this institution are clearly outstanding and the Lake Michigan shoreline is awesome, but the campus itself isn't as impressive as I expected it to be. Every other Big Ten campus I've visited (and I've visited many of them) is more attractive and has a better campus spirit feel to it in my view.

Attending parent activities for freshman orientation, it was incredibly impressive how prepared the school is for the students and the effort made to make the students feel welcome to College life. While the tuition costs certainly pay for all of the efforts, it was appreciated and made dropping off a new student much easier. Very well done.

World class reputation! Chicago is at your doorstep, and Evanston is a great town, as well! If you can get in, GO!

Northwestern is a top notch school with many beautiful buildings and the students there receive a wonderful education. The town of Evanston is a perfect place for the students to escape from campus and had many great restaurants and shops.

A wonderful place to do academic research! My best student experience ever! The campus is also extremely beautiful, especially in summer and fall, and you can see the Chicago skyline at the shore of Michigan Lake.

What a great school Northwestern seems to be with its beautiful modern buildings and spectacular view of the Lake.

My wife and I live in Evanston and, thus, see and experience the school very often. Gorgeous setting on the banks of Lake Michigan. Difficult to drive around; best ways to see the school are to walk about and/or rent a bike and pedal. Both are easy to do. The school is located right in the city of Evanston so one has access to many restaurants, shopping and hotels. Yes, it is an excellent school. Moreover, as retired folks, what we like a lot about Northwestern is its School of Continuing Studies. It's very welcoming (and easy) to take peer-to-peer learning plus any other course at the university that you care to. Plussss... the music and theatre schools make productions available to the public all the time. Great attraction!

Attended a business conference at Chicago campus and left with bad taste in my mouth. The people were unfriendly and less than helpful. Facilities were cramped. Parking cost me almost $300 for 4 days.

Northwestern University is located in the north of Chicago. The campus is not so big but its buildings are so elegant. It is just next to the Lake Michigan. It has great view. You can also walk or ride along the lakeside. It is very comfortable.

The new visitor's center and music building have stunning views of Lake Michigan, thanks to the extensive use of glass walls. And then there's the 100+ year old Gothic English building tower. Beautiful ivy covered walls juxtaposed with modern architecture on picturesque Lake Michigan.

and no money for the city of Evanston, NWU. If you look at the campus it is just building after building that they have spent Millions and millions of dollars and yet they pay no or little taxes to the city of Evanston

Make sure you spend time near the rocks by the water. It is an amazing College. My son is there for his PHD so we love to visit and find something new each time. The library is amazing!

Toured the campus and it was very impressive. Beautiful location on the lake. Extraordinary new buildings on campus - in particular, the Kellogg business school, the Bienen School of Music and the Ryan Field House.

Beautiful landscaping. Perfect blend of historic buildings and modern conveniences. Nice views and easy walking routes.

Evanston is the underdog in this relationship. Northwestern has so much money they keep erecting buildings by the lake. They are modern forts serving the rich kids from all over the world.

Fell in love with this campus. Right on the Lake with a lakeside walk area with a lovely view of Chicago skyline. Mixture of traditional ivy-covered buildings with new modern state-of-the-art buildings. Flower gardens everywhere. Art museum and several huge performing arts building. Kellogg Business school modern and state-of-the-art audiovisuals. Full of happy, friendly people. Free student-led walking tours available. Best to sign up in advance.

We drove and walked around the campus to look at many of the old and new buildings. I especially liked the buildings by the lake that had great views of the lake and Chicago.

need i say more? oh, over-rated and arrogant too. almost an ivy and with an odd goal of becoming a local Chicago school.

Attended the Traffic Accident Reconstruction II class here under the instruction of Lynn Fricke (what a hoot of a teacher!). Security was excellent. Staff very helpful, welcoming and accommodating. Great heating (had to ask them to turn it down a couple of times!). Hallways felt like we were back in the Receiving dock, though. But hey - who comes for the view?! Vending and water available in the back of our class auditorium room. Great program - great people.

The campus is home to ultramodern Kellog Business school, the historic Garrett Theological School, and every sort of dormitory, academic hall, athletic field and training facility you can anticipate on a major university campus.
The university is packed with gardens stunning in variety, size and quantity, wonderful mature trees and Lake Michigan, viewed from beaches, buildings, park-like settings. The new structures, paths and drives provide additional settings for massive gardens and landscaping.
The campus is outstanding for walking, biking, running and has plenty of racks for locking up bikes, stations for renting/returning Divvy Bikes.
Downtown Evanston is directly southwest.

A beautiful campus. Just walking its paths along the lake and through its gardens. Always interesting actvities going on. Lovely art museum on campus, free for visitors. Cafeteria serves all kinds of delicious food. Check for lectures, theatre and musical events.

Speakers at this year's graduation were both entertaining and informative. The pace of everything could have been brisker and there were some incredible jerks yelping and shouting in the stands but all in all it was memorable and there was some actual humor.
And now my daughter heads out into the big world and stakes her claim. Northwestern helped create the person she has become.

School is located next to the lake. Lovely walk on a spring day. It is hard to park around the school. Visit downtown Evanston for restaurants.

This is one of the most beautiful campuses in the U.S. Built at the edge of Lake Michigan, with a mix of building styles from the Gothic library to the sleek glass business school, shady lawns and flower-edged walks, it's a lovely place to explore. I've heard the education is outstanding, as well. :-)

I have known of Northwestern for some time as having one of the best music schools in the country. I was not aware of the many other strengths it possesses - engineering, Kellogg School of Management and an amazing medical school. My son chose Northwestern over many other fine schools to study comparative literatrure and film. Very impressed with what I have seen of his classes and the work they do there.

Graduation from North Westearn was fabulous. The organisation was superb and the weather joined in with brilliant sunshine. Thank you North Western for a memorable experience.

This excellent university has great options for neighbors: wonderful theater and music, fun sports and great classes for non-students (see Alumnae of Northwestern University) and a charming campus. Hard to get into but a fine choice for a good student.

Want to motivate your high school student? Take this tour of the beautiful campus and listen to the students explain their experiences while in school. They are well spoken, in love with their classes and professors, and excited about the opportunities in Chicago and abroad. The campus is compact and up against the lake. It was a fantastic summer day...not a snowy blustery day. But I am not sure if even that could dampen the spirit of this campus. Go Wildcats!

What a fantastic school. My daughter was admitted to the class of 2021. We spent the day touring campus and attending informational

Our choir performed at Millar Chapel last month, a beautiful venue but in dire need of a lighting upgrade. One of the most breathtaking examples of stained glass use in America but at night there is no provision for lighting the windows.

The campus was beautiful. A wonderful place to relax and tale a walk. Although I didn't get to go near the water, everyone else seemed to enjoy themselves. I would definitely recommend

My son and I visited for a college tour and by the time we were done, Northwestern made such a positive impression that he might just go there, if he's fortunate enough to get in. The campus is simply incredible and you can see why so many are proud to call themselves alumni. Their academic reputation is second to none and it just seems like a great place to attend college for 4 years.

so many illustrious people have attended and graduated from this fine university. whenever my wife and I are visiting with family in Evanston, we always enjoy walking around the campous and seeing the hugh goldfish and lake.

The campus is located around an hour out from downtown Chicago near Evanston, giving a nice college-town vibe. The campus is next to Lake Michigan, and the beach + mini-pier alongside a park gives a great atmosphere, location, and climate for visitors and students.
For visitors, the visitors center is the place to start and the NU staff were extremely friendly in answering questions. For prospective students, a "demonstrated interest" form can be completed and they also provide a virtual map with a self-guided tour route.
The campus has a lot of modern buildings but also contains far more traditional buildings. They have multiple fields for various athletic purposes, including field hockey, soccer, and football fields. The library is a large, traditional building facing a large lawn.

Went to program there years ago, recently drove around campus. Very beautiful, being by the lake of course makes everything spacious and striking. Think it would be a nice walking tour. Lots of good restaurants in the area, so could burn some calories afterward.

My grandson, Chase Enloe, just graduated in the class of 2019 from Northwestern University with a major in economics. His four years at Northwestern were invaluable to his future. He begins his career in finance with a position at Morgan Stanley on Wall Street in July. Northwestern has offered Chase a stellar education and a wonderful experience.

I am an Evanston resident and often walk along the lakefront path and make my way up to Sheridan Road to walk through the campus. There is much in the way of architectural detail with the mixture of old and new buildings on the campus-library, churches, library, Norris Center, fraternity houses. During the weekday, you will certainly see a large student population. On the weekends, a little less activity unless there is a game or other event going on. The lakefront portion of the campus is beautiful if you walk or bike along the various walking paths. Further south of campus will give way to some large mansions as well as parks and beaches. Downtown Evanston is within walking distance of campus with its variety of restaurants, stores, a movie theater and coffee shops. Parking can be a challenge but there are a couple of city lots nearby and you need to be aware of the permit parking restrictions. Overall a lovely way to spend a day, weather permitting.

Walk around this beautiful campus, in particular the view at the lake front is superb. We really enjoyed the afternoon there.

Very pleasurable campus to walk around. Beautiful buildings and groups. Right on the water also. I recommend it!

University offers first-class facilities in prime location, with a scenic setting. Professors are all leaders in their fields and offer a spectacular education. Even the sports teams have come up in the world, in recent decades.

Parking can bee daunting at Northerwestern University, but the good thing is that they are I preparing to open a new parking garage in 2014. The campus is charming with lovely landscaping and nestled in a residential village. Be sure to pop over to the lake!

Went here for a run along the shore line. Great view of Chicago downtown and sail boats. Lots of students and staff enjoying the evening. Parked at the Athletic field, where permit parking ends at 4pm. Assumed free after 4pm. No problem with parking there.

My daughter spent five weeks last summer doing the Cherubs theatre program for high school seniors. She had a fantastic experience with the acting program and fell in love with Northwestern and Evanston. We did a tour and were impressed both by the physical campus, and also the students who were intelligent, well spoken and enthusiastic. The campus is situated within walking distance of everything a student needs wiith shops, restaurants and banks being very close. The beach is a very pretty bonus and adds to the feel of the campus on Lake Michigan. Evanston is a short train ride away from Chicago, which has so much to offer college students. When she just came back to campus for Accepted Students Day, she said, "I feel like I am home". We look forward to visiting her during her Wildcat experience and know that she will thrive in this stimulating environment.

awesome place, has a really cool campus. Evanston is also a good place to explore and to have fun. great food options there.

Excellent teacher! The class has been a difficult subject matter, but I am learning many interesting facts I did not know about.

With 12% acceptance rate there is a good chance I will not be going here as a student. Much greenery, and in a park like setting this is a beautiful campus. Ponds and gardens, easy access paved walkways, lighting at night, emergency phones, all beside the lake. Many interesting buildings to enjoy...not sure why the building housing the information Center (with a potential great view) houses a few floors of parking above it. One star for the roads; they are in terrible condition; bike riders be warned.

What a beautiful surprise! The Levere Memorial Temple is gothic style construction and contains a beautiful collection of Tiffany stained glass.
The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation maintains the Temple which was built as a war memorial. Truly a gem and worth a visit!

Letting someone in on a secret is like sharing a bottle of a sparkling beverage, it makes it that much better. And such is a visit to the small town of Evanston and the campus of Northwestern U. just 30 min .north of Chicago. The gtown is a conservative one, its roots go deep in temperance societies and the proper social graces. The main street is Davis and its length is festooned w. a variety of pubs, cafes, fine dining, specialty shops and unique bookstalls. The main, centrally located library near Church St. has four floors, a modern computer lab and is dedicated to fulfilling every reading interest. Books too are always on sale here and there are nooks and crannies to read quietly.
NU is located at the northern end of town on the shore of lake Michigan. The best time to visit the campus is in the spring when the flowers and shrubs begin to bloom. Their wisps of fragrant scents waft in the air like some secret cologne. Certain stes are particularly beautiful. U Hall is a somber imposing grey stone structure, circa 1800's. The "rock" a stone mascot sits like a Buddha as students paint variable weekend logos upon it to announce events. Deering library and its impressive tomes houses many a collections. The natatorium is a fun place to take a dip, tho it is cold! Norris ctr. has cafes and eateries and a place to meet and greet and unwind. The Shakespeare garden is a favorite place that is hidden away though well worth the find. Flowers, benches and adages etched in stone are jammed packed into the small space.
The lovely Howe chapel is a pint-sized memorial built for a wedding which took place there and is right out of a medieval century having beamed hewn interiors and stained glass. The huge Millar chapel and the Catholic chapel are also worth a tour and are sites of student religious rite pageants. Newer construction is an on-going campus effort as seen in the Nano math and science complex and Medill school of journalism. Before leaving the area two other memorable places should not be missed, the intricate Bahai temple and Grosse point lighthouse, circa 1800's.
Enjoying Evanston and NU is a secret well-shared.

New beautiful buildings with a million dollar location. Excellent world class university. Walk close to the lake and take in the views.

Returned for reunions and visit. Lived in Evanston from June 24, 1937 to June 21, 1959. Recommend Hotel Orrington for your stay.

Road bikes through the campus. Lovely place, right on the lake! The architecture conforms well with the landscape and modernity fits in with the older parts of the campus.

We went here for a soccer camp and walked around the campus. There are always people around so you feel safe walking alone. There are trails along the water and a beach area for the campus. The new athletic facility is amazing. Lots of shops and restaurants close to campus.

I went on a college tour and the students leading it were very friendly and informative. The buildings and surrounding scenery is very beautiful! Lake Michigan is right against the college. I would definitely recommend coming here!

The more modern private university of Illinois. I loved how Northwestern and UChicago offer different types of campus styles! Best thing about Northwestern is that they have an maxim atmosphere and everyone is friendly and willing to talk to you.

It’s hard to sum up the beauty of the iconic Northwestern University. The buildings are photo-worthy, and the beautiful grounds of the university are located on the banks of amazing Lake Michigan. The blending of the University with historic Evanston and the border of Willmette is beautiful. If you follow Sheridan Rd, up to Willmette, you will come upon the incredible Baha’i Temple.

Amazing location for this university campus. Right by the Michigan Lake. I am so jealous for all students who can afford study here. Great spot. And it is not so far from the Chicago downtown. Just hop on the eL train.

My first experience at an opera was Northwestern's Dead Man Walking this weekend. The show was wonderful! The addition of scrolling text at the top of the stage, even though it was an American opera, was very welcome. Northwestern has some extremely talented opera and instrumental music students. Concessions during the intermission would have been a welcome addition and made it more like the professional theater experience I'm used to. If you live nearby, you should put Northwestern's productions on your "to-do" list. Get there early, as parking is at a premium.

The Evanston campus is beautiful and beside Lake Michigan. Divided into north/south with student dorms scattered throughout. 2 Hiltons nearby and many restaurant choices. Very friendly people in the area.

I to campus with a docent the Chicago architecture center and approved to be incredibly insightful on the history and architecture of this beautiful campus. Our guide, Mitch, took time to walk the tour route just before our tour to make sure that our path was not impeded by much of the construction that was taking place on campus.

A beautiful campus next to Lake Michigan. The buildings are beautiful and the shoreline is lovely. I recommend a visit if you have never been there.

Excellent theater, music (January series); The alumnae classes are well worth your time and effort, as they give you plenty of interesting ideas for discussion.

This campus is an amazing sight. I would compare it to almost the Stanford of the area, because the campus is full of brand new hundred million dollar buildings, yet is quite expensive to attend without a merit based scholarship program. Definitely go by and see the university!

very nice university, clean the campus was excellent. right on the water. looked old school. looks upscale

Let me clear. Northwestern is one of the FINEST UNIVERSITIES in the country but it also remarkably beautiful! In the great town of Evanston IL, Northwestern is a dream school for its location as well!

Make sure to walk along the lakefill
You can do sailing, kayaking at the NU sailing center
Deering library is great

I'm spending a few months here like a exchange visitor and I have to say that in summer it's so beutiful, you could walk close to the lake, and there are so many activities to do, you just have to go to the Norris Centre.
There are so many kind of food, so healthy if you want.
It's a good place to have a bike.
The winter could be so hard.

We visited with our daughter who is a rising senior in High School. We were very impressed with the campus and the kids. I hope our daughter get to go here.

We're on campus about every other day for walks. Love to see the view towards Chicago from its south end, and it's also interesting to see how the students have painted the rocks.

Did my post-Bach premedicine program here about 5 years ago. The education was outstanding, facilities were great and the location can't be beat, the northshore with a great view of the lake and the city anywhere on campus. Lived on central across from the football stadium, which is a very lively area with shops, restaurants and the purple line train. Very convenient to the city place to live near.

This is a beautiful campus. The grounds look well maintained and there are many things to do within walking distance. A great place to go visit, especially in the summer as it is walking distance to the beaches on Lake Michigan.

One of the most beautiful college campus I have been to! It's so gorgeous we got some of our wedding photos taken on the grounds....
The scenic lake, views of the Chicago downtown shoreline, the lovely campus grounds with willow trees, pleasing stone buildings, ponds wilt fountains & willow trees inside, idyllic.
There are some magnificent large rocks that bear the unique art of various people who have claimed them over the years that are a worth a stroll on & reading.
Enjoy this lovely place in every season, in every weather condition & discover it's charms.
What a way to get an education. A true Blessing!

A walk around the lake front is amazing! You can walk , bike... The view back at Chicago is gorgeous

We included Northwestern as part of our college tour. It is the most beautiful university we visited and the most complete in terms of curriculae building, student living and more.

Beautiful campus with a nice mixture of historical and modern buildings. Downtown Evanston seems to complement the university well and provide train access to Chicago. Appears to have an engaged student population.

BEAUTIFUL and quaint. Quite lively with staff and student (tours in progress) abundantly around. View off pier was SPECTACULAR.

Even if attending the university is not in your plan, tour the campus and walk along the lakefront where, on a clear day, you can get a wonderful view toward the Chicago skyline.

Located on Lake Michigan, wonderful walkways and great views of the lake. Next to downtown Evanston that has great places to eat, and some shops for those inclined to visit and support locally owned business's.

This university is not only beautiful--right against the lakefront--but it's also the home of so many cultural events. Pick-Staiger Hall has fabulous musical offerings. The theater department is one of the nation's best. There's an art museum that has unusual exhibits. The students come from all over the world with many, many Asian students. I work with international students in Medill's Integrated Marketing/Communications program.

Walk through the campus of one of the elite universities in the midwest, and you will find a campus humming with the energy of a multi-national student body. There is a varied architecture of the buildings, but all seems to fit together whether walking through the fraternity housing units are along the lake shore near the south end of the university campus.

There is so much to the beauty of the campus that is hard to appreciate when you are a student and in your twenties. Taking a break to visit the campus and walk around Evanston and up to Wilmette revealed a really beautiful campus and area.

World Class university located north of the City of Chicago and next to Lake Michigan. Close to Evanston city centre

there are some attractions you can take a look inside the campus, but there is no clear indication where the Charles Deering library building is, yet the Alice Millar Chapel and the Levere memorial temple are quite beautiful.

The location of the university is right on Lake Michigan and quite pretty for an afternoon or evening stroll. The campus is not too big, which made it easy to access on foot. There are lots of charming and old buildings in addition to the modern ones. The dorms are not far from the library either. It is a very nice campus to visit.

My daughter just graduated from the School of Music. Great school. Very competitive, but she got a good education. Beautiful Campus. Very pricey.

Northwestern University lies on the shore of Lake Michigan north of Chicago in Evanston. Excellent location and features a incredible music building. The programs there are top notch. And beyond the music program there is a wide variety of rigorous academic programs from which to choose.

Nice waterfront path and gardens to explore. I live a block away, so it's part of my 5 mile afterwork distressing walk. They own a ton of the waterfront, so the walk has to be nice.

Their campus grounds are well-manicured and their facilities are all very inviting. Campus is situated along Lake Michigan.

One of the best university in the country.
The campus is quite big, with some very nice buildings (especially the latest ones over the lake).
Check out the new Kellogg building. Amazing!.

We used the food courts for 6 days while visiting a patient. The variety is excellent and the food is very good and reasonable priced. We recommend it. There is a TGI Fridays nearby that also is good.

Our child attends northwestern university in Evanston. Highly rated university. Beautiful campus. Close proximity to Chicago. Our daughter is happy, and is thriving. The university offers our child the experiences and opportunities we hoped it would.

This campus is simply STUNNING! The architecture and location along beautiful Lake Michigan is breathtaking (on clear days, downtown Chicago can be seen easily from the NU bike/running/walking path). NU has also added many new, modern buildings that complement the traditional stone ones in place. A must visit!

We went to see a field hockey match at Northwestern and had time to stroll along their beautiful lakefront before the game. It was a gorgeous sunny morning and the park was beautiful. The students have painted mostly creative sayings on the "rocks". We got a bonus soccer game after the field hockey match in the back to back arenas. Very fun.

The Northwestern campus is gorgeous - one of the nicest campuses we've visited. Excellent for a walking tour, particularly by Lake Michigan.

It is an amazing campus to visit. The lake, buildings.... a really great place to do not miss if you will be nearby.

What a beautiful campus right on the water. Lots of green space and beautiful foliage and flowers on this August day.

Great campus along beautiful Lake Michigan. Worth the walk. Can walk to the Bahia Temple and/or t h e Lighthouse. Great architecture.

An absolutely gorgeous campus. Rent a blue bike and ride through campus and along the shoreline. Don’t miss the painted rocks and the soccer field on the shore. Just beautiful.

Good place, but smallish for a football game. Except some tailing gating west of the stadium. Not much a place for food and drinks.

The visitors center where you are making your first impression of Northwestern had stains all over the carpet and the benches were all ripped up. This reminded me of something you would see at a Motel 6. If they want peopole to pay $95,000 a year to attend this University maybe they should take care of the basic maintenance items like cleaning the carpet. If they can't do the little things right, how can I trust that they will get the big things right?

Formerly beautiful lakefront campus with lots of green space is now an urban canyon walling off the lake with big buildings and parking garages after their 5-year capital campaign (read "naming rights"). Facilities are OK but the planning and layout looks like Houston-style zoning (as in none). Used to be good for walks and bike rides. Now stay south along the Evanston city lakefront path and parks and avoid NU.

This is a great place to walk or bike around. The campus is compact and there's much to see. Don't miss the outdoor sculpture garden, the Shakespeare garden, and the lake fill lagoons.

excellent university grounds
I ran in the morning across the small lake with wondeful views of Chicago

What a great University! So much to see and a great view on the lake. It's a upbeat neighborhood with so much to do. The train is nearby for easy access downtown.

I admit I am a college snob. I went to what I think is the most beautiful school in America- Princeton. But I have to say northwestern comes really close. The setting on the shore of Lake Michigan was beautiful. Even on a cold, windy day, you could see why this is such a special place. And the on campus museums are amazing.

Ride your bike for all the great views. Great Architecture, gardens & lake view. Pretty Campus. Dearborn Observatory & Shakespear Garden on this Campus

The campus is beautiful and everything is so pretty and green with the feel of Fall approaching. Obviously, since I have a son attending, I think that it's a great school. Wish you didn't have to purchase the meal plan just because you live on campus because my son says the food is horrible.

Most of the campus is behind the buildings visible on Sheridan Rd.--a main road through Evanston. It's difficult to park on campus because you need permits. There is some parking at the South end by the theater and there is Evanston city parking within a 3 or 4 block walk. If you're going for a tour I'm sure you can get information and permits. It is just beautiful, right on Lake Michigan and well worth a walk. Downtown Evanston has plenty of restaurants and interesting stores. There are a few hotels there also.

It doesn't get much better than EU. Not only is the education superior, but you are living in an area filled with cultural diversity, fantastice cheap eats and easy access to Chicago

The campus is home to Kellogg Business school, which is where i had the privilege of spending my summer with an exchange program. The university is located on the shores of Lake Michigan with great views of downtown Chicago. It has stunning goth like buildings and modern constructions such as the Kellogg global hub

Classic ground to walk! One of the best universities on North America! Very much worth to visit! You'll love it!

An excellent university, with castles everywhere. Great museum, beautiful campus. Lots of student activities.

Northwestern University has an amazingly beautiful campus with lots of pedestrian space and car free areas. Views over Lake Michigan and Chicago Skyline in summer time are memorable. Aside from that, the university offers students great study and sports facilities.

This campus is full of history and grace. Visit the Deering Library for a look at Hogwarts come alive.

A beautiful campus. There are a lot of historical and modernized buildings it is worth a trip. A huge campus as well one part is facing a lake. Have Great view around and lake and feel relax strolling around

Wow, right on Lake Michigan - a property developer's dream! Terrific mixing of older collegiate style architecture with more modern buildings. The parking garage at the visitor's center has an amazing view of Lake Michigan - it kind of makes you scratch your head at the thinking that went into making sure cars had a better view than people....

With most universities sitting around some not so desirable areas, NU sits on lake Michigan, north shore of Evanston il, arguably one of the most beautiful hippest cities in the world, with great food, awesome things to do outdoors, easy access to downtown Chicago. By train, some of the greatest architectural homes and building in America. The school is very impressive.

Great buildings, great campus, great Chicago Downtown views, great location (Evanston). Loved al of it.

Cannot say enough good things about this school. Excellent academic reputation for most majors including engineering, theatre, journalism, and economics. Located on Lake Michigan, with views from the beach, of Chicago. Very motivated students. The town of Evanston offers many restaurants and shops, for the locals as well as college students. Plenty of things to visit at the university including strong football and basketball teams, and theatre productions.

Spent an afternoon on Sunday as a family. Museum with current exhibition is not appropriate for children and is slightly awkward. Must check out the "Bean Garden" before entering the museum. The movie theater is next on our list to do. Checked out the new cool looking building (looks like a giant ship right on the edge of the lake shore). The library is a must see. You do not need to be a member of the University, but if you are nice to the receptionists, they will be happy to let you in to peek.

We live near the campus and visit it frequently. You do not have to be a student to enjoy all the campus offers - art exhibits, plays, movies and food. However, best of all is the beautiful campus.

World class education set on a magnificent lakefront campus just north of Chicago, the great American city. What more could anyone want? One of the world's leading research universities coupled major conference athletics, world class theater programs and top shelf professional and graduate programs. This place is truly special.

Beautiful campus with a few older buildings. Nice place for a walk in the summer or a picnic by the pond.

Lots of construction but a beautiful view of the lake with many trees and majestic buildings. Would love to go to college here, seems like the east coast.

The campus is situated north of the City of Chicago overlooking Lake Michigan. It has amazing modern glass buildings mixed in with old, classy 1890's stone buildings. A beautiful lake park greets you on the south entrance to the school where you can go sailing or engage in beach events. Make sure you take a walk along the shoreline of the campus, where the skyline of Chicago can be seen.

Beautiful Campus. Lakeside with ponds and beach. Well manicured campus with lots of wildlife, rabbits, birds beavers, squirrels.

Hard against Lake Michigan - every building is gothic or new and made of glass.
Chicago shimmers in the distance.
There is a distinct campus and a town the clearly caters to the University. Plus a commuter train a few blocks away that takes you into Chicago.
All the facilioties are beautiful. There are grand trees, sweeping lawns, ornate buildings and amidst all that a feeling of space.
Very pedestrian and bicyclist friendly.
Seems like if you imagined a Hollywood set of a fancy University this is what you'd come up with.
A dream in the summer biut I bet the wind coming off that lake in the winter is COLD

If you want to see a beautiful and excellent University on Lake Michigan, no need to look any further. Northwestern just reached out and grabbed my son and said “come here”!

Being from Appalachia, it is always a thrill to visit the Chicago area. However when our daughter selected Northwestern, it opened an entirely new experience.
Safety was the first concern. We need not have feared. In her entire time there, we never worried. Neither did we worry when we went to visit frequently.
The second concern was the student body. What would our daughter be exposed to? Again, no concern. The level of student accepted at NU is phenomenal.
The third concern, was wondering about the level of education she would receive at an institution in this group. May I say that everything was superb.
Fourth was safety in the dormitories. No worry there. The university staff keeps a close eye on all students and monitors their behavior.
Other than these four concerns, may I say that we were impressed by the layout of the campus, the location of the same, the architecture and the buildings.
Then there was the weather. Being from a warmer climate, it was always a "cooling " experience to visit Evanston.

I regularly take courses offered by the NU Alumni Assn. They are taught by outstanding profs, and the subjects are always fascinating. This coming semester I am taking a music curse from one of my favorite profs, and course on Hamilton, which should be fun. You could not ask for a more worthwhile experience.

Spectacular school. Beautiful scenic walk right on Lake Michigan with awesome views of Chicago! Grounds also beautiful with a nice mix of old and new buildings. Easy walk from downtown Evanston

Northwestern is a beautiful campus with many modern and historical buildings. We had walking tour by ourselves on sunny day in October.

We visited 6 colleges in 4 days. Our conclusion was that its the tour guide that makes the visit. We felt that not only did we know Northwestern, but we new the tour guide as well and his life there. Very enjoyable. We liked Northwestern.

Don't miss visiting this unusual beautiful setting of this world class university. Visit the island.

While looking at schools over the last couple of years, we've been to Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia and University of Chicago. Well, Northwestern has one of, if not the, most beautiful campuses of the lot.
Obviously if you're looking at schools, there are multiple factors that weigh in, probably least of which is visual. None the less, this place would be a wonderful setting to attend for higher education.

It's very gray, and in comparison with many of the Big Ten schools it seems rather stark and spartan. Of course, six months out of the year, the weather is not that appealing, but it looks like a place that just grew without little integrated planning.

My grandson enrolled in a summer program. I participated in start and graduation activities. It was well organized and professional in every way.

There are very few Universities on a Lake. There is so much to do from walking the beautiful campus to spending time in Evanston's downtown area. There is a lot of building going on to update the area and a new fitness center (state of the art) right on the lake. Of course, we were here in the summer when it is not very crowded, which is a plus. It is a comfortable and inviting campus.

Beautiful campus, wonderful facilities and a lake view are only the most obvious things that make this place a hit. My daughter will definitely be applying—she was blown away!

Northwestern is a picturesque campus on the edge of Lake Michigan. A truly gorgeous university, with outstanding academic programs. Their School of Engineering has excellent networks with industry, providing lots of 'real world' experience for students.

Whilst in Chicago, we thought it would be good to watch some college football. We went to the Wildcats versus IOWA. It was a great atmosphere, and whilst the Wildcats were beaten on the day, we had an excellent time experiencing the university game culture.

The Northwestern Univertsity Trail (NUT) is 1 of 45 bike trails/paths in Chicagoland. I am visiting a friend who resides in south central Evanston just 1 block north of Chicago's northern city limits. From Ridge Ave I rode east on Howard St to Howard Beach Park where I picked up the NUT just to the north at Elliot Park. The trail follows the Lake Michigan shoreline north on Sheridan Rd & thru Dawes Park adjacent to the lake. At Clark St Beach the trail enters NU and hugs the shoreline passing NU Sailing Center & the Ryan Center for the Performing Arts. A right turn over a short bridge places you on The Northwestern University Lakefill. It is a large area of campus land that was reclaimed from Lake Michigan in 1962-1964 by creating a seawall of limestone blocks quarried in Illinois and Indiana and using landfill materials from the construction of the Port of Indiana. From the south end you have a good view of Chicago's downtown shoreline skyline. The Landfill, which is now a grass & tree park like area, offers 2 trails; inside next to a small campus lake & outside adj to Lake Michigan. The seawall material, varies sized pieces of concrete & rock, have been painted by NU students over the years and offers places to sit by the lake. The trail then continues past Lakeside Field home of NU Soccer & Lacrosse. The area north of here is currently under development with additional dorms & other buildings being constructed so use caution as you proceed thru NU on N. Campus Dr. where additional construction is ongoing at Lincoln St at the north boundry of the campus. Returning look for the trail splitting to the right after the Lakeside Field just north of the campus lake. This portion will take you towards the center of campus past the James L. Allen Center (Kellogg School of Management); University Library; Norris Center Bookstore & the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art and back past the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art before returning to NU Sailing Center. From Elliott Park & back its 4.2 miles. I rode on a Wednesday mid morning and encountered only a few other bikers & walkers.

Northwestern is an outstanding university. So good I probably couldn't even get admitted now. Northwestern exposed me to people from all over the world and to ideas from so many disciplines. Northwestern taught me how to learn about anything. Lifelong learning and curiosity learned at Northwestern has served me very well. Don't go to Northwestern if you are looking to root for a national champion at any major team sport - maybe men's golf or wrestling or woman's softball or lacrosse.

Northwestern U has some of the nicest lake front biking and walking on the North Shore. Following a lecture or theater performance or just heading north by the lake the NU campus is a perfect place for Great Lake views. The campus sprawls along the Lake Michigan Shore and offers great views of Chicago. NU is a world class university but for those of us who are neighbors in Evanston we appreciate the sailing beach, open vistas, lunchtime concerts and arts opportunities.

We visited because my husband was once a graduate student here. It has changed a lot since then, bigger and better. Lovely grounds and lake shore walk.

Go to a football game. Walk around the campus. You could go to any number of other sporting events and visit the Block Museum.

We've seen lots of theater there and other off classes for fun, their sailing school is second to none! Location and the town are unique and diverse. The area is on the water and architecture outstanding

Just dropped my son off at college for the first time and I couldn't be more impressed with the incredible school he's selected. The campus is gorgeous, the staff was kind and genuine and the academic

Awsome people and excellent science. Great atmosphere to work and do research in collaboration with world renowned

Great setting on the lakefront. Many handsome buildings. I'm sure it would be a great university to attend - if one is accepted!

Following my retirement a couple of years ago, I enrolled in the Continuing Education
classes sponsored by the Alumnae of Northwestern University. Each quarter, four classes are offered in a wide range of topics delivered mostly by current and retired faculty members. It has been an enriching experience and I would highly recommend
the classes. The fee is modest and bus transportation or parking permits are provided.
It is a beautiful campus and Norris Hall provides an excellent Cafeteria.

I am a little bias, I went to NU and now so does my son. It is a great University in an absolutely splendid location. The educational standards are world-class along with the extracurricular activities and all the varsity and club sports. GO CATS!

Gothic Revival architecture, a Brutalist library, footpaths along Lake Michigan, sculptures, museums, music performances, a superb library, and more. Easy access via public transportation from O'Hare or the Loop (Pace bus 250). Downtown Evanston, with numerous restaurants, just a few minutes (by foot) away, and the city has several National Historic Districts.

We brought our niece to NU for her freshman year. The campus is beautiful. We particularly loved the lakeside walking and bike path. Even if you do not have a child at NU, I recommend that you take the time to visit this beautiful campus.if you are in Evanston.

Beautiful campus and great graduation! The setup was perfect for our family member who received her masters degree in Journalism. Very intense program bit she loved the experience

Was here for a workshop, but having a little time outside of meetings to explore the campus during the spring time was great. Tulips, daffodils, green lawns, some fragrant bush flowers. Very beautiful campus on the lake.

The Northwestern Campus is located right beside Lake Michigan and is filled with lovely old buildings, exciting new buildings, art spaces and spectacular views. Take a stroll and enjoy it. It will make you want to become a student again and forever.

Attended the Northwestern University Parents/Family weekend this past weekend. Was great to be able to be back at beautiful Northwestern in person and see downtown Evanston and the campus alive again.

I have been on nearly 50 colleges tours with my kids including seeing Northwestern four years ago with my oldest child and this tour was horrible. Unlike the last time we took the tour, the guide did not show the Medill School of Journalism or the Engineering school. These are two of the top schools in their respective categories but were not even mentioned on the tour. My son is interested in Engineering but none of the guides were from that school and the school was closed when we went our own after the useless tour. We did find one student in the Engineering building who was not a big fan of the school.
The student tour guide showed us two buildings. Yes, only two buildings. One from the outside where he commented it looked like a cruise ship, it did. The other, we walked into the building but the classrooms were locked so he chose to have a 15 minute Q and A session rather than show us the rest of the campus. Ironically, he never told us anything about the building we were sitting in including what school or classes take place there.
My son was considering early decision here but now is not applying at all. The last time I took the tour, I thought it was one of the best we attended. I spoke to an admissions counselor who said they recently changed the tour skipping half of the campus and permitting tour guides to pick where they want to take people on the tour. This failed miserably and much to my dismay, my child has decided that Northwestern is not for him.
The campus is pretty but an institution is more than how good the campus looks. The info session was standard but the tour and subsequent discussion with an Engineering student we found knocked this top 10 school off of my child’s list.

My daughter is at Northwestern and I have friends in Theater and Political Science. It is an amazing place and breeds interaction.

Beautiful campus for a walk with attractive old and modern buildings. Impressive sports facilities, theater and other artistic activities. Obviously a thriving , well ranked university

We just wanted to see the grand old buildings, the magnificent lake front views, and the area, in general. It did not disappoint. The buildings are spread over a huge area and are architectural gems. There is also a lot of new construction. We did not realize the enormity of the campus until visiting. There is a beautiful lake walk adjacent to the campus.Plus the town of Evanston has lovely homes, stores and restaurants.

My wife and I were given a tour of the Northwestern campus by a friend who is a student here. What a gorgeous campus and it is so clean and immaculate. Northwestern puts lots of money and effort in the aesthetics of the campus. All the buildings look so unique. The campus is located right on the water with awesome views of the Chicago skyline. All over the campus there are huge amounts of large beautiful trees providing plenty of shade and an awesome environment for the students to work in. The campus has many walking and bike paths.

Went there on a lovely spring day...wow, what a gorgeous campus...two beaches (not open yet) and some dorm rooms have lake views. Even the newer buildings seem to have been built to blend in with the older ones...some pretty large building and renovations projects seem to be going on...took a student led tour...our guide was totally in love with this school...she was so enthusiastic and informed about all the activities and events on campus. Be sure and walk along the lakefill area up by the lacrosse field...outstanding views of Chicago skyline. Go Cats !

I visited Northwestern's lakeside campus on a warm fall day and was a bit disappointed by the experience. The campus landscaping is peaceful, and the art museum and chapel are worth a look. However, I could not locate a campus map, and most of the buildings are not clearly signed until you approach them. Some of the buildings are architecturally noteworthy, but there is no unifying theme in the campus architecture.
The campus was a bit disappointing for a major university.

We have been to many campuses across the USA. Northwestern is a clean, busy and easy campus. They are always building more facilities. Enjoyed sports events there and fireworks on the shoreline. The university does not seem to have a "center" of campus and is spread out along Lake Michigan, but still very accessible.

One of the universities from Chicago located on the lakeshore. It's buildings probably are not among the most beautiful of American universities but the location definitely is. It has a marvelous walking/bycicle path along the lake with a sight of Chicago's skyscrapers in the City center.

Excellent university with a beautiful campus on magnificent Lake Michigan. Tours can be arranged through the
alumni office on Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL. Also the Block Art Museum is worth a stop to see their excellent
displays and concerts and plays are given in the Arts Circle.

I graduated 35 years ago and just attended my first reunion. This is an excellent school and a beautiful campus to visit.

During a beautiful late summer Sunday, we took the children for a walk along the lakefront and the Northwestern campus. The atmosphere is academic and refreshing. The campus is well maintained and the paths are excellent for the children (3 and 4 years old) to roll smoothly on their scooters. The campus architecture is a beautiful blend of traditional and modern and the location can't be beat. From the lakefront, you can see a wonderful view of the Chicago skyline and this is a great place to soak in the fresh air and sunshine. The campus is a diverse place with friendly people to share the experience with. There is an "academic" and "safe" feeling to the campus and we will definitely return.

A world class university with programs that are among the finest in the nation. Where else can can an undergraduate be trained at storied theatre or journalism school while also receiving an Ivy League caliber academic experience? The highly rated Kellogg Business School is also located on this campus.
Situated on Lake Michigan, the Evanston campus is lovely, the facilities are modern and well maintained, the students are happy and engaged, the professors give equal attention teaching and research, and the president takes excellent care care of the students, staff and endowment.
Am I biased. You betcha. Northwestern a special place and like none other.
Go Cats!

Beautiful, historic, architecturally significant, great real estate on the lake..... but man is it cold when the wind whips in off the lake. Still, it's a great place.

Beautiful campus, lots of traditional and modern architecture to see on an extended walk of the school grounds. Their new music building has fantastic views of Lake Michigan. Very little beach front access along campus. Parking is horrible! Parking lots are either metered parking or reserved parking. Bring lots of quarters for the meter!!

Lovely Evanston campus, right on Lake Michigan with a new Sailing Center. This school is on a quarter system, which is brutal on the students, staff and faculty. They have over 500 job openings which tells you something about the culture. They want entry level staff to have master's degrees. Tuition is very high. University Police is OFF CAMPUS in Evanston.

Evanston is a wonderful place to study and also boasts tons of great restaurants within a student budget. And it is only a short Metra or L ride from Chicago. What more could you ask for, except less snow?

This is a walkable campus on the shores of Lake Michigan. You'll enjoy the beautiful plantings and stately trees as you stroll along the curving pathways. The architecture offers an eclectic mix of old and new.

Architecturally compelling buildings; extensive green space, Lake Michigan views -- and all walkable without crossing streets. A real campus "campus" just outside an amazing city. We love it!

I walked through and by Northwestern as I walked toward the lake. The grounds and buildings are spectacular. It is well worth the walk to see the various architectural styles and the well groomed grounds.

Take a leisure walk there. Lovely campus. Has a solid balance of greenery and stone buildings. Campus is set right on the coast of Lake Michigan. Comfortable breeze during the spring, summer, and fall skips off Lake Michigan. During the Winter, you should make sure to wrap up because that "hawk" of a wind grabs ya!

We were in town to move our daughter.. the campus is lovely to walk around, and the view of downtown Chicago as you walk along the lake side of the campus is really nice. The buildings are an odd mix however, some very modern, even austere, some lovely older ones as well.

Northwestern is by anyone's account an outstanding institution of higher education. The campus is beautiful, snuggled up to the shores of Lake Michigan, and the students and faculty clearly love the university. At some $60,000 a year, it's not for the faint of financial heart, but nonetheless, definitely a Top 20 school in the U.S. The ethnic and global diversity of its student population is both amazing and a foundational strength in and of itself. The campus is a beautiful blend of brand new buildings and others that must be more than 100 years old. Like a fingerprint, Northwestern is one-of-a-kind.

This is a beautiful campus on the lake. Major construction is currently underway but still walkable.
Facilities are excellent.

Great school in a beautiful setting. The views never get old. The campus and the lakefill are fantastic. Great academics.

A walkers dream. Wide variety of architecture of the buildings. Lots of places to sit and gawk. The landscaping is tremendous. Don't miss going out on the peninsula along the lake and see all the painted rocks and view of the city. We visit all year round..just wear some warm clothes in the winter as it is windy!

Gorgeous campus with a modern and intellectual atmosphere. Our son graduated from the Theater Directing Program with a MFA degree. He is well trained for the tasks at hand. Faculty and premises are top notch. Theater is wonderful. Located in very cute town with many eateries and shops. Very safe to walk around.

Toured the campus It is well taken care of his dorm has what he needs. Students are friendly and very helpful explaining what is available and the important building they need to know on campus. They also showed them around the cities.

I really want my daughter to be accepted, so please don't apply here. Its lake-front setting and view of the Chicago skyline are really miserable, especially on a sunny day. Knowledgeable tour guides really ruined our visit, as did the information-packed admissions presentation. Miserably, the University is a perfect blend of the resources and diversity offered by a large school, with the flexibility and attention offered by a small school. The location, Evanston, is also unfortunate. There is always something to do (beach, movies, etc,) and more food than one could possibly sample in a year...very disappointing. Add to that the variety of cuisine, and you'll understand our displeasure.

Not only can Northwestern boast of being in the top 10 universities in the nation for academics, but it is also a beautiful campus to visit. The amalgam of gothic and modern architecture is lovely, as is the landscaping and of course the view of the lake. What a pleasure it must be to work and/or attend this university!

Beautiful winter walk all around campus. Grab a coffee in the town of Evanston and enjoy a sunny February wander.

I been there so many times, it's a great campus for walking around, make some picnic and take beautiful pictures of the lake and the view of the city
Always bring your sueter there's a lot of wind near the lake

Seems like a nice quiet camous---its winter so not too many students walking or cycling. Some of the campus borders a beach walk.

We were very impressed with our tour of Northwestern and of the brand new visitor's center. In addition, there is a new music building being finished which will house many great concerts, I'm sure. For the community, there's a great bike, jogging and walking path as well as two beaches. Worth the visit!

It really depends what you're looking for when you visit Northwestern. It doesn't have the feel of an east coast college or university like Cornell or Princeton or Yale or Vassar. The campus doesn't have a sense of architectural unity. It does have the lake though which offers beautiful views of Chicago. If you go to the North side of the lake by the soccer fields and can find the blue and white rock, look down and you'll see a cool sculpture of a mermaid in on of the rocks.

Northwestern University is the heart of Evanston, we just go around for walk never been inside the university. But we checked out all the parts like canteen, Kellogg, Lake and other parts of the University. The view of lake from the university is so beautiful. I love to go there again and again.

Northwestern University is a wonderful old university, tucked into a lovely, tree-lined neighborhood which sits right on Lake Michigan. The campus itself has some interesting old buildings, but the outdoor common areas and the lakefront are the things worth seeing if you are not interested in visiting the campus as a potential student. Near the student union building there is a beautiful pond stocked with fish, and a bike path that winds around campus and fronts the lake. This is my personal favorite way to navigate - bikes rule. Parking near the university and in the Evanston area is difficult on good days, and a disaster if there is a university event (ball game, graduation). Walk, bike, take the bus (or shuttles) and you will be much happier. But don't visit the campus without a before or after trip to the surrounding neighborhoods - south along the lakefront, and north/west of the campus. Beautiful, historic old homes, a lighthouse and public beach areas. Something for everyone.

The entire reason we went to Chicago 😁 My Niece graduated with her Masters Degree! It’s a beautiful campus, also a beautiful place to take family pictures. It was a WONDERFUL MEMORY the ENTIRE family got to share!

The Northwestern University campus is beautifully situated on the lake, is nicely landscaped, and has buildings with interesting architecture from different historical periods. A stroll around the campus is very enjoyable and relaxing.

Could not have picked a nicer day to visit - gorgeous campus, friendly people everywhere we went. Lots of new construction. Impressive.

Masters of Engineering Management ceremony: Organized, fun, on time. Banquet following: Spectacular!

Northwestern is "university classic". A beautiful campus, on the banks of Lake Michigan in Evanston(Heavenston), IL, approx. 10 miles north of downtown Chicago. The Wildcats are well supported in town, and the students are everywhere. Wonderful classic American University. Strong in most academic disciplines.. Big 10, Division 1.

Concerts ,plays, hiking path by the beaches, plus the Norris center very good.Furthermore,
Pick stagier concert was great with the northwestern band concert in 2016 that i attended.
KUDOS to all of you at NORTHwestern.

It is on the lake in the city of Evanston - right above Chicago. So - it is pretty to walk around if you like college campuses. If you go north, there are also a lot of nice residential neighborhoods.

Liked everything about the place it's hospitality, location , the food and all. The address by the dean was very impressive. The Lake Michigan was awesome .

A beautifully set school on lake Michigan. Great scholastically and some wonderful architecture. The visitors center is new and worth the trip. Not every high schooler will get in here but if the school is on your list come take the tour.

Visited my daughter for parents weekend. Northwestern knows how to do these weekends with lots of activities and informative sessions. Well done

As is the way for a collage town they way you look at it is the way you are impressed by it. While old the campus has renovation projects including new buildings for the arts on the lake front. Off campus housing is available in all varieties and price ranges.. While walk-able there is a shuttle and the EL available. The walk-able area includes a downtown retail and restaurant area. I was very impressed by my short visit.

My wife graduated from Northwestern, so we had to see her dorm. Overall, its a nice enough suburban city campus, and if quiet suburb is what you want from your prospective college, but big city is nearby, Northwestern's a good campus.
It seems that Northwestern is ranked highly by US News and World Report in a number of disciplines.

What a lovely afternoon with my friend to see an exceptional performance if "the Great Gatsby".
Took a walk to the hotel lHilton Orrington for an after show drink.
Lovely, lovely performance

Northwestern is doing expansion, renovations, utility upgrades, and redoing a main road with added bike paths so expect to see an epic battle of the diggers and fillers. That said, you still should go see this beautiful campus on Lake Michigan. It has ultra-modern buildings and a library that looks like Hogwarts. They even have a sailing center and beach with volleyball.
This is probably a lot nicer visit in the warm months, than in January or February though.
A truly beautiful campus
My daughter is considering Northwestern, so we paid a visit. The campus is really beautiful and located right on Lake Michigan. The tour guide was very friendly and helpful.
