Haven't been to the New Jersey beaches so I can't compare. This beach was clean and family friendly.
The lifeguards just sit in their podium eating and joking with each other and once in a while blow a whistle at someone.
You have to swim between 2 green flags about 100 feet apart. Super crowded.
No sand under your feet. It's broken shells. Very uncomfortable.
Have to pay to get in the beach. Paid to get a chair and they were very outdated chairs. No where to put your cup or can or phone.
I'm from CA and it's very different, so the New Jersey shore is something I'm not used to, but glad that I came to see it!!

They have banned smoking from this incredible beach and I am so thankful for that! There is nothing sadder than your beautiful beach being used as someone's ashtray and now it will continue to remain in pristine condition with fresh cancer free air. The water has never looked better. Insider tip: go down to at least 30th street and beyond. Anything above 14th street is where the crowds and out of staties stay.

Lovely Clean Beaches! Life guards friendly and caring. We ended up staying the entire day! Also really nice to go to the board walk in the evenings for dinner!

We visited the OC beach on August 10 just after Tropical Storm Debby passed. Luckily the storm stayed mostly inland so our family managed to get some decent beach time.
The waves were pretty strong and the lifeguards kept the swimming area between the flags pretty tight and under close supervision. The beach was fine and not terribly crowded. We went to the beach at 12th street near our hotel so it was a short walk to the sand. Beach tags were included in our hotel rate and some of our little ones were under the age of 12 so they were free. Everyone enjoyed their time on the sand and in the water.

We visited Ocean City in October. Why Ocean City? Our usual fall destination was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Dorian. That destination being Ocracoke Island. Back to Ocean City....We found the most charming condo down at 55th street right on the beach. The owner gave us the condo for a steal. Perfect for our needs. Away from the downtown riff raff, stumbling distance to and from the beach and close to good fishing spots. We packed plenty of wine so the dryness of the town didn't affect us. Because it was October, it was pretty quiet down where we were staying. However, I can only imagine what this area is like in season! The beach was nice, relaxing of course and we lucked out in the weather department. Sunny and low 70's. The fishing...not so much. lol
All in all, we would return again maybe try it out end of September.

The atmosphere of such cleanliness is refreshing. This is where you need to take someone who you care about to. The prices are a little high but, that's the price you pay for a quality town of sobriety. Please check out OC if you love beautiful beaches, great food and of course the boardwalk.

It wouldn't be summer without a trip to the beach. We found Ocean City, New Jersey to be clean and very family oriented. It is also a dry family resort town. It is a great experience for young or not so young. Very friendly staff will help you rent chairs and umbrellas for the last minute brainstorm. The Ocean City Pops Orchestra which plays at the music hall-beautiful, is superbly talented! We were there to participant in an Italian Neopolitan concert. There are music choices for everyone. Couldn't recommend more highly!

The beach is big definitely and is very family-friendly. It is at a shoreline. And it has some sand.

I just had my first experience in Ocean City New Jersey and it was wonderful.
The Beaches are Beautiful, Clean and well Maintained.
I really liked the family friendly atmosphere and that all the entry ways are lined with walk ways.
I am happy to pay for beach tags knowing that the money goes towards making these beaches this nice and safe.

Great beach. Clean. You can rent a beach umbrella and beach chair...bring cash. Bring sand castle equip for the kids. Can buy at boardwalk shops if flying. Loved walking the beach at sunrise. Cold water, but my daughter loved playing with the waves. Lifeguards at certain locations. The beauty of the ocean at this beach reminded my daughter how important it is for us to take care if the environment.

Definitely the best beach in south jersey. Wide and clean with plenty of room for everybody. Have been going to oc beach for over 50 years and can't find another like it. Very family oriented.

Ocean City beach is your typical beach. It is nice, however it can get real packed very quickly. The water is not a bad temperature during the months of July and August.

They have a boardwalk which is fun, but that's all I can say. The beach was just wall to wall bodies. You could barely walk to the water, let alone lay down a blanket. The water was so dirty that if you stood knee deep and put your hand down into the water, it would disappear in only two inches of water! We saw all kinds of debris floating up on the beach. Even tampax and syringes! I was told that they take the garbage from New York City out to sea on barges and dump it. It then floats back to land all the way down the coast. I really felt sorry for the people who lived there.

A little south of Atlantic City on the endless Jersey shore is Ocean City Beach. Not as famous as its more southerly Maryland cousin, this beach has just as many activities to enjoy without the huge summer crowds. Parking is scarce as expected in a shore town. Luckily, there was an open lot near the beach for a $15 fee. For bathhouse use there is an additional fee. We spent a few hours on the beach after dishing out an additional $5 each admission. The beach sand is hard packed and the ocean water is a bit on the cool side. It gets filled on nice summer days like that day, so claiming a spot early is important. Our time at Ocean City Beach was sun filled, pleasant, and enjoyable.

Ocean City Beach is very clean and sand dunes protecting the boardwalk from storms.
The people here are very nice and friendly. When swimming in the ocean be careful that the under toe does not pull you out. During August the water temperature is in the
low seventies. So come down and have a good time on the beach at Ocean City.

As a child we went to Asbury and then Point Pleasant. As a teen I liked Seaside Heights but once I had kids we tried Wildwood and then came to OCNJ and never stopped coming. We all absolutely love it here!! While it can be annoying at times that the town is dry (alcohol not served anywhere/no liquor stores) this keeps rift raft out. It is the best family beach town ever! This year I took my kids to Ocean City Maryland for five days over July 4th and kept comparing it to Ocean City New Jersey and it just couldn't match up. While there were tons of things to do there every time you cross the street you felt like you were taking your life into your own hands. It was definitely not a relaxing environment like OCNJ is. Absolutely love everything about OCNJ!!!!

Went here daily while on vacation. Not crowded like other beaches in Monmouth county. Weekly badges are inexpensive.

We really enjoyed relaxing on the beach. It was very clean. The restrooms unexpectedly neat and tidy

Beach is swept daily and well patrolled. No smoking or animals are allowed on the beach. It is one of the cleanest beaches I’ve been to, due to lack of seaweed. Plenty of trash receptacles. Water is much warmer than further north on the East coast. Fun to see the dolphins. Great for surfing as well!

Alert life guards!!! they did a rescue on the day we were there. Kids swimming where they were not supposed to. Very quick response all saved. Beach is clean. water is great.

This was our first trip to OC though we were here for a short day trip last month. That is what compelled me to book a last minute trip. The town is dry so no one is staggering all over the beach. It is clean. I never saw a cigarette butt anywhere. It is full of families. The bathrooms are clean and accessible. The sand was a bit rocky/shells for about 2 feet in the water then it cleared. They rent umbrellas and 2 chairs for 19$ and the young worker installs it and takes it down. Overall a wonderful beach!

I love this beach, it's always clean. During the heatwave it's a bit crowded but when you see family just enjoying the weather with their children its worth the trip to come to Ocean City beach...

First, why do resident pay 14,000.00 in property tax for a whole 1/4 acre of land. You know the one you can reach and touch your neighbor. Yet we're paying to go on a over crowded, smells like raw sewage beach????
What is that SMELL???
2ND governor Murphy won't let a gym open yet ocean city boardwalk is jammed with people NOT 6ft apart, NO Mask restaurants with people on top of one another. There are to many beaches. Go explore and save $5.00 for a day pass and DON'T lose your day pass if you choose to go or you're stuck buying another tag or they'll ask you to leave.

Only complaint is there are times people play their music louder than necessary. This is annoying especially if you are not a fan of the genre. Alcohol is prohibited and I believe smoking, as well. It is kept very clean and there are typically clean restrooms nearby. Nice to see something constructive is done with beach tag fees. Food options are plenty, but almost all are only fair.

If you are looking for a well maintained beautiful beach that is completely family friendly...this is it! No drinking, no smoking of any kind and no pets...and they mean it. I don't even think I heard anyone swear for a week. Great experience with a great beach!

One of the cleanest beaches, plenty of space, lots of trash bins, minutes walk to the boardwalk for food and drink, excellent beach patrol. This beach is beach tag required from 10-5:30pm which is a small price to pay for such a nice beach.

It's a really nice beach. They require tags during the day (9-5) and free after 5. It's really crowded though, unless you go to the North end of South end. I'd stay clear from the boardwalk area. Just my personal preference. There is so much to do though everywhere. You can do surfing lessons, fly kites, boogie board, walk on the boardwalk, and of course get a tan!

We have been vacationing at OCNJ for many years. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the beach. Would recommend highly.

We braved the cold artic temps and ventured to OCNJ on a cold winter's day! Even on the coldest days there's something beautiful about being at the beach. There's a stillness and peace and beauty that is captivating and inviting! And when you sink your toes into that soft sand even in the dead of winter, there's that awwwwww moment where every note of stress leave your mind and body! Best therapy ever!!!

Came here in early October and beach was great. A few swimmers and surfers. We walked over 10 miles in a day on the beach and boardwalk. Benching here over 20 years. Great family resort. No alcohol sold here.

The beach in OC is beautiful. It's always clean and probably the best beach for families with kids of all ages. It's extremely safe and there is never that nasty element that you sometimes find at other shore towns.

Great beach....sandy and wide. Water was still cold but lots to do behind you then come back and enjoy the sand. Lots of room to play catch and build big castles

Ocean City was a great place to take the family for a day, week, month or the summer. However, it’s far less desirable these days. My wife and I took (2) day trips in the past month and both were meh. The last trip cost me about $80 for the day. $9 to park, $7 for a lemonade and $60 for a pizza and 2 sodas. If we hit the beach add another $20. Not really as billed - family friendly. If you have younger kids, you now have only 1 pier - Wonderland pier closed. Also, where it was rare, now people ride bikes on the boardwalk all day. They are supposed to be off by noon. Now the city council is adding a 3% rental tax if you book from a travel site. The once real family destination has fallen a great deal. No longer family budget friendly, and the demeanor of the boardwalk crowd is much less respectful.

It's early October and people are still in the water. Water tempe in the mid to high 60's. Great sunrises. Lots of people walking the boards.

I've been coming to Ocean City off and on for 40 years, including visits with my extended family every year for the last 15 years. We love the beach and hanging out together, but honestly its not the same after Hurricane Sandy. The soft white sand is gone. The dredged sand added to the beach is very shelly and sharp, so its very difficult to go into the water without water shoes to protect your feet (large shell hash areas are tough to avoid). We won't stop coming to OC for family and the boardwalk, but strictly speaking the beach has changed.

We have been going to Ocean City for a long time. It's an awesome beach. They keep it clean, the lifeguards are a great team, and the boardwalk is right there for snacks or meals. Fantastic family spot for vacation for sun, fun, and making memories.

Great weather for the beach walking on the boardwalk. Thrashed fries are great. Bull on the beach the best.

I was in Atlantic City with my son in late June. He went to see the Vans Warped Tour and I went to do my thing. One of my things was to go to a beach nearby and this is what I discovered. A beautiful beach named Ocean City Beach of New Jersey. It was a sunny and hot day and looking for free parking was a chore. I finally found a spot and made it to the beach. I never went in the water just walked along the beach for a while. Very nice describes this place perfectly....Many people were having fun on this lovely beach. I would come here again.

Beach was nice and clean but there was a lot of seaweed. Rented 4 chairs and umbrella for $32. Water was warm.

We especially love August, September and October in Ocean City. Though, we also visit in April and May. The beach is clean and vast, from the inlet in the North End to the southern most swath as it curves around another inlet. The Famous Ocean City Boardwalk is close by for biking, walking, shopping and jogging (usually in the early am) for more athletic workouts.

Happy to not have to walk a lifetime to get to the ocean. More crowded closer to the boardwalk. Life Guards on duty during the peak season. Kept clean.

I go here often, but to surf fish. My daughter goes often to hang out with friends. Quality beach, though it requires a beach tag. The boardwalk if right there along with lots if good eateries and shops. Ocean City is a great town to visit, especially with a family.

On our August visit we were amazed to see a Falcon handler walking the beach to scare away sea gulls. Since the entire community has no liquor licenses and there are beach patrols, it's generally a family atmosphere without unruly people. If you are handicapped, the handicap parking spaces are free and there are beach handicap chairs to transport across the sand available. There's also really nice rest rooms. It's a wonderful place to visit. Buy and displace the appropriate pass so the community can continue to provide wonderful services. It's very inexpensive and there's also the great boardwalk nearby for other activities.

First time visiting Ocean City, NJ. We stayed at the North End. The beach was not very wide at this location near 2nd Street. Additionally, you have to stay between the green flags in front of the lifeguard. The flags are about 100 feet apart. This means all of the swimmers are crammed into one spot. I didn't like the jetties or the huge metal pipe which I assume is for beach replenishment or to help with flooding. It was very ugly, whatever its purpose. However the beach was very clean and enjoyable just too crowded for my taste.

Very clean and very family orientated. Seems like the music pier gets some cool acts. Amusement parks never too crowded. Overall, a picture perfect town!

Yes, you need beach tags. Yes it can be crowded at times and places. Yes, the tide/storms have eroded parts and the lifeguards can be over cautious, BUT for being on the Northeast Coast, OCNJ is a great beach. They have allowed the dunes to come back over the past few decades. The beaches are mostly clean (downtown area is a different story) and guarded. Great for families as advertised and not as much riff raff as OCMD (please work to KEEP it that way).

I had the luxury to visit Ocean city, NJ on multiple occasions and the beach is the second best thing over there(after the boardwalk). Great family time

Only walked on the beach everyday, not a water person. October so just enjoyed the surfers and paddle boarders. Sand was not like LI and there were many shells. But great sunrises and sunsets.

Soft sand, good waves, attentive lifeguards-great start to the day! Lots of families. Disappointed by some smokers and boom box people that settled far too close to us. Loved seeing two people that brought a Santa to the beach and took photos of people with him(week of June 25th, so six months to Christmas). The seagulls are quite aggressive and there are penalties if you feed them-don't do it!

The weather was pleasant when we visited, although there were many warnings about the rip current and lots of shells/seaweed/junk was washing up from a recent storm. Enjoyed a used maxipad floating by...
Watch the lifeguards' flags to see which areas are closed to swimming. Some areas are for surfing only.
For $16 we rented an umbrella and sturdy chair to use for the day, so that's convenient. There were lots of people on the beach, but it was so wide where we were (16th St) that it never seemed crowded.
Beach tags are required for everyone over 12, and they do check for them often. You can buy tags at some entrances to the beach or from the person who checks for them on the beach. A single day tag is $5.
The seagulls are very aggressive, so be careful with your food. A group of teens left several bags of snacks on their blanket and went to swim. As soon as they left, seagulls came and pulled all the food off the blanket. They shook food out of an open bag and fought over it. Then the largest bird pecked open a closed bag and spilled the contents. He had his fill, and the next largest bird took over. The others hovered around, hoping for an opportunity to grab a morsel. Very entertaining when it isn't your stuff... (Karma came swiftly in the form of a gull crapping on our blanket, though.) Seriously, I'd think twice about giving children food on this beach.

We met friends for a long weekend spending some time on the beach. We were south (around 50th street) of the larger crowds that filled the beach around 9th street. The beach was less crowded, the sand was soft, white and clean and the ocean clear and clean.
I recommend you bring a cooler with beverages and some snacks. There isn’t much food to buy so far away from the action except every so often you would here a bell. That meant the ice cream truck was there.
I hope you enjoy your day as much as we did.

The Ocean City, NJ beach is my favorite beach (with Fenwick Island, DE a close second. My family and I have been coming here for years for our summer vacation . I have 2 young girls and they are able to enjoy the ocean with us. The waves are always a good size (not too big, not too small) and the sand is beautiful and clean. Boogie boarding is a must here!

This was our 1st visit to the Jersey Shore and we are officially hooked! We stayed down in the southern part of Ocean City 5/10min drive from boardwalk. We walked with our beach cart every morning around 830 and the beach was almost empty...ssooo peaceful. By roughly 11am the beach was filling up but you were never on top of people or blanket to blanket. Water was clean, vould be a little rough but fun to play on the sand bar and in waves. Guards did a great job and were friendly.

There is so much to do, take a walk on the boardwalk, go shopping, relax at home and watch the ocean rise and fall.

Ocean City is a fantastic location to visit and not a bad place to live. It is quite crowed weekends in the summer but rather nice in the off season. Summer parking can be a problem and parking laws are strictly enforced. Summers bring lots of sun and fun along with the tourists and the beaches are simply fantastic. However, beach tags are required during the high season. Ocean City is a "dry town" with no liquor stores, bars or restaurants that serve alcohol. Nevertheless, there are plenty of libations available just over any of the bridges to the island.

The beach was clean and the ocean was amazing. My granddaughter loved using her boogie board and diving into the waves. It was a great time.

Thinking about Ocean City's Beach in February while flicking through picture albums from summer's past. Popping colors remind the world is not always as muted as it was today. Bright skies and smiles. Glinting eyes. Swimsuits drenched from taking dips. Flying kites, digging in the sand. Frequent snack breaks. Crowds of the like minded, but there is always room somewhere not too far from the waves.
$5 beach tags required and life guards on duty until 5 pm during summer season. No alcohol allowed.

The boardwalk with all the fun and food with bathrooms is conveniently right there next to the beach 🏖 Enjoy

Ocean City New Jersey is wonderful for young and old. We visited on a beautiful Fall Saturday with our club and thoroughly enjoyed the safe, boardwalk, restaurants, and attractions. KUDOs OC NJ.

The water was clean and it was not crowded. However, I did not see a lifeguard. There are specific locations for surfing which was a benefit so I did not have to be on the lookout for a beach board.

We have been on many beaches from Aruba to Riviera Maya Mexico and the Ocean City Beach beats them all. Sand is finer and beach into the water is not steep. Life Guard stations every two blocks. The beach is groomed every day. You won't be disappointed!

We love coming to this beach! Well guarded and family friendly. Get there early to get a good spot and not too close to the water or you'll be moving everything quickly as the tide comes in. You can rent beach umbrellas which are a great break from the sun. Always a great time and easy access to the boardwalk for food.

The beach has lots of room all up & down the town. Sand is a fine grain & white. Lots of room for flying a kite or playing bocce.

Always consistent and clean. Great beach to visit with family and walk on the board walk. I have been coming down here for years and alway enjoy

We come down and spend the day and use the bath house before going on the boardwalk. Love the fact that there are lifeguards hate the fact that it costs money to sit on a beach. It's the beach do I really need to review that pleasure!

I spent a day on the beach yesterday - took me about an hour drive - but the beach itself is ok - water seemed ok - the area is over going an incredible growth and especially properties by beach are very well maintained .

Sure there's a beach tag fee but how else do you keep the beaches pristine and provide the other services that keep you safe?

Very clean and well maintained, excellent lifeguard staff. Restroom facilities and food outlets nearby.

Water is a little chilly late in the season but still refreshing. Huge waves. Beach is pretty clean. Lots of shells at the edge so careful walking barefoot. Not a lot of opportunities for shade so bring a hat or sunblock or you will be burned! If you like the beach, this is a nice location.

The tides, the lifeguards, the boardwalk, the sun...what else could you want? Plenty to do for all ages and remember the sunscreen!

People seemed very rude and inconsiderate. Too many large tents close to the ocean and really obstructed views. Also, the ball playing at the edge of the surf made for a very un-relaxing time.

My brother Walter and I love the beach in Ocean City, because it is clean and wide and the water is refreshing. The dunes add beauty and environmental protection.

There are rocks and drain pipes along the beach. When tide is out they're obvious. During hide tide all may be hidden. Use caution and enjoy the great waves! If you don't like cold water, bring your wetsuit

Back to OC day after Hurricane Henri passed by. The day was sunny and the waves were tolerable. Being a Monday, the place was not crowded and enough space to social distancing on and off the beach. Lunch time was still crowded. We arrived at noon and found paid parking next to boardwalk, $15. This is a nice place for kids. Bathroom and outdoor shower stands available. Lifeguards present. Food and shops opened. Enjoy before season is over, but Labor Day crowds are very busy!

Nice size beach with lots of families. You will need beach tags to enjoy the beach - most local hotels provide them if you're a guest or you can buy them at the beach. There are "tag checkers" that walk the beach so plan to get a tag. Umbrellas and beach chairs are available to rent or you can bring your own. Lifeguards are present and set flags to mark the swimming area.

My daughters and I vacationed in Ocean City, MARYLAND for the past 20 years. But now they have young children of their own and suggested we try somewhere closer. Ocean City, NJ it was.
Pros:
-The entire island is sparkling clean.
-Much of the construction is newer and very pleasing to look at.
Now the cons:
-The water is freezing. MD water is pleasingly brisk but easy to enter.
-Beaches are on the small side. MD beaches are huge.
-They areas where you are actually allowed to swim are greatly restricted in comparison to the size of the beach. You can swim anywhere you dang please in MD.
-You have to pay to get on the island...what?
-You have to pay to get on the beaches...what?
It should also be noted that this is a dry island, which was fine with our group but maybe not for others
It's back to OC, Maryland for us. The extra 2 hours driving is easily worth it.

We had a fantastic day at Ocean City Beach. It took us over an 1 1/2 hours to get there but I really wanted my family to experience the beach at Ocean City based off the reviews and high ranking that Ocean City Beach received compared to other states.
Although there wasn't a ton of open space in the water due to high waves, we really enjoyed ourselves. I would rather the lifeguards have a smaller area to watch due to rough waters then taking on additional risks.

The beach is a pretty, sandy beach with fairly shallow water during calm weather. It is VERY crowded with people sitting on top of others. It is difficult to preserve an area for your family without crowding. The swimming area is nice, but extremely narrow forcing everyone to be in the same spot including, children, adults and boogie boards. It would seem there could be an area for the boogie boards so they were not on top of the swimmers.

Not enough lifeguards. Long streches of nice beach where no swimming allowed.Beach
and water were fairly clean.

Our room was beach/ocean front with a balcony so the beach was our view. Never too crowded which made it very relaxing

Reasonable rates to rent umbrella and chairs. I prefer to carry as little as possible to the beach. Large beach area, life guards are very professional and take their job seriously. Since my first visit back in 1999 to present I wouldn't go to any other shore spots.

Beach is very clean. Many Lifeguards. Umbrella, chair & boogie board rentals. There is no smoking on the beach, but some people think they are beyond the rules! Myself, I have no problem reminding them. The beach is patrolled at night by Police on 4 wheelers. Also...very important...there are designated swim areas due to undertows. If you drift into these unsafe areas, the lifeguards will be blowing their whistles to"remind you". Love this beach!

The beaches are always fun. However now we have small grandchildren that frequently join us we recognize the one big factor is safety. With ever beach block having life guards, we realized how important safe beaches mean to our family. Best beaches around!

Ocean City has beautiful big beaches. There are many life guards on duty making you feel safe. The beach is clean! The only warning is watch out for the seagulls eating your food!!

Ocnj boasts some of the best beaches in the country. Soft, sand thats very clean considering how many ppl actually use them

Beautiful and not too crowded! The waves were huge, lifeguards on duty and very clean beach and warm water. Perfect for swimming!

The beach is mostly clean. The ocean is not. The beach tag patrol is annoying. (through no fault of their own) You may be resting or talking and have to stop what you are doing in order to show them the expensive beach tag you were forced to buy in order to sit on a public beach that you pay taxes on.

It just does not get any better. The beaches south of 29th street are wide, flat and beautiful. Perfect for walking, playing ball, shell hunting, or just people watching. Bring a book and read the day away. Just the perfect escape!

I like to swim long distance along the shore. At all the other NJ beaches you just inform the lifeguards and they radio from one station to another that there is a swimmer. That is how it works in Long Branch, Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and many other places. Not in Ocean City. You have to stay in the crowded area between signs, no long distance swimming.

Feel like I'm coming home when on the OC beach. Lovely beach community, family oriented. Have been on the beach and Boardwalk at night and always feel safe even if it's not crowded. Boardwalk has everything you could need - great family vacation spot even after over 30 years still coming back for more. Don't forget the town for dinner, shopping, coffee, or an interesting walk.

I have been going to this beach since the 1970's and I never regretted any visits ever. The beach tags may be a drawback, but since it's a dry town the city needs to make some extra income somehow. Even if you don't feel like sunbathing or going into the ocean, you can always walk along the coast.

Seagulls abound. The water and sunsets are breathtaking. It's just large enough to enjoy it but not too large to be overcome.

Enjoyed sitting on the beach and the great view of the ocean. Very active lifeguards. Lots of families. Beach tags are required and they do check.

June 2020
I just love this beach, it's definitely not Ocean City MD, where all the troublemakers and classless people go. Two things keep it this way: it's a dry town and you are charged a small daily fee to go onto the beach. I've only been here a few times now and I loved it every time. I've never encountered any rude or annoying people and it's a very safe, fun, family-oriented environment. The sand is not too chunky for the most part, except near the water line during low-tide, and the waves never seem to be too much to handle. It's my favorite beach in this part of the East Coast, when I can't make it down to the Carolinas.

Beach is close to boardwalk unlike some other New Jersey beaches. It is kept very clean for visitors.

Rules, rules everywhere. On the beach, no ball playing, no frisbee,
no booze, no sand throwing, no smoking etc. Worse yet, when you swim, you are jammed between two flags, & don't even think about going out past your chest; whistles will be blowing furiously! Now granted, some rules are needed & make sense but too many are unnecessary.

Beach in Ocean City is just beautiful, clean and in some areas very quiet. We were delighted to find a B&B in the garden section which was about a 15 minute walk to a very quiet section of the beach. We walked for miles and in some areas no one was on the beach. Towards the boardwalk it is very crowded and mostly families. There were no public bathrooms for the beach. You must swim between the green flags that the life guards put up. Water was warm and clean with great waves while we were there.

As a child I spent a few summer weeks with family at the Jersey Shore (mostly Seaside Heights and Beach Haven), and have not really spent time there in many years. This was like a trip via time-machine to essence of New Jersey Shore.
As this is listed by the entire city, as opposed to its individual attractions or hotels...
I can offer this perspective after staying both with family in O.C. and at a hotel right on the boardwalk and beach. In between I sampled some local restaurants (in OC and Margate, mostly), saw a few beach spots, and hit the boardwalk one afternoon and one evening. (The day before a heat wave caused the amusement park to briefly go black.)
Speaking of, this was a city badly impacted by Hurricane Sandy a few years back, and there have been both some changes and new rebuilding/growth. I have cousins about 3 blocks from the beach but opposite the bay, and their home was devastated, while right on the beach it was less fierce. Just saying... among the local homes and docks, things are looking good now, back to normal, house foundations raised, flooded homes and businesses either replaced or renewed.
But imagining most review-readers are more interested in vacation/tourism offerings, here's an overview. Beach, boardwalk, seafood, sun.... "rinse and repeat". The boardwalk is just as vibrant as the other big shore destinations. There is Skee-ball, bumper cars, scary rides and arcade games in a few spots, along with VR booths, henna tattoos, salt-water taffy, Kohn's custard (soft ice cream), talking alligators dissing a nearby parrot, a gorilla DJ'ing hiphop, gift shops with hermit crabs, and... a beach!
You need a beach permit for most of the prime public strip. The hotels will give you one (but like locals emphasize: hold onto the badge and give it back! expensive to replace).
Lots of umbrellas and endless food options along the boardwalk. (Restrooms too) The beach closes at night, and the boardwalk begins zipping up somewhere 'round midnight.
Of note: Alcohol is strictly forbidden on the beach - and Ocean City is a "dry town" - no alcohol sale permitted, and no serving in restaurants. (But you CAN 'bring your own'.)
There is a huge selection of restaurants (great local seafood!) and varied water sports/activity providers. If in a hotel, you'll find a deck of activity brochures for the whole surrounding area. But if you stay near the beach - right on it is expensive but there are other options and many available rentals (say the signs) just a block or two from the beach.
If there for a while, with car, you're near Atlantic City, many bridges and fishing ops, Lucy the Elephant (Margate), as well as summer and annual events of all kinds. But if you're staying near/for the beach, it's all nearby, you can leave the car and put on the sandals.
Nice clean sand, water seemed clean (if not deep-blue), lifeguards, and varied spaces. Some spots are crowded (especially near the hotels) while a bit further off - like the 13th Street Beach - it's pretty wide open, people playing without disturbing others, and also some lovely little whirlpool-like depressions in the sand creating 2" deep mini-pools, great for toddlers or sand castles.
I think that's about it. Take sunscreen and stay hydrated! Enjoy.

We stayed at the South end of Ocean City for a week. The beaches were wide and clean (for the most part). People were well spread out and not crowding. The lifeguards were great and on top of things. The swimming areas were well marked with green flags, and you were made aware when the lifeguards were going off duty. Our beach passes were included in our rental, so I can't speak to the cost.

Great family place for swimming and sun . The life guards are always watching for the safety of the people. Great place to vacation every year.

We didn't spend much time here but my daughter and I took some time to play and walk in the sand and dip our feet in the ocean and it was amazing!!!

I've been visiting ocean city New Jersey every year all my life. Clean soft sand. Fun ocean swim in. Good food on the boardwalk. A wonderful family resort!

We usually travel to the beaches in the Carolinas, so we were surprised to learn a few things. 1. You must have beach tags to be on the beach. They are $5 each/day or you can pay for them for the week (not sure the price for that). There are college students who comb the beach each day asking to see the tags and selling them if you don't have one. 2. We found parking along a side street so we did not pay for public parking, but keep that in mind too if you are trying to save money. 3.There are green flags set out by the life guards. This is the space in which you can swim. I assumed swimming outside of these boundaries was an "at your own risk" type of thing, but they blew their whistles to make sure everyone in their area stayed within these boundaries. I'm not sure if it was due to dangerous ocean currents or just to make sure they could limit their survey area. 4. The beach is a dry beach, so no one had alcohol (visible anyways). 5. Picnicking was frowned upon, but I think it was just because of the sea gulls that scanned the beach waiting for that one chip to drop from a kid's hand. Those birds are ruthless. 6.There was a public restroom on 34th street, so if you are driving to the beach, staying close to this street might be a good idea. 7. The waves were very small here as the water is decently calm. The sand and beach as a whole were very clean, although there was some foliage debris left over from a storm. The water was cold! There were about a couple dozen people playing in the designated area, but there were hundreds of people laying out on the beach. I'm not sure if this is the culture of New Jersey or because the waster was so cold. 8. Finally, if you hear the bell ringing, that is the signal that the ice cream cart is on the street. It is between $3.50 and $4 for a frozen treat.

Ocean City is a barrier island with an approximately 7 mile long beach. There is a kind beach for all tastes. Secluded. Boardwalk. Crowded. Empty. College crowd. High school kids, Families. Singles. Sand is beautiful on all the beaches and cleaned nightly. Beautiful State Park at southern tip of island. Surf fishing is terrific in Fall and Spring.

Their beaches are always clean and just a pleasure to be on especially the beaches towards 1st street away from all the noice from the rides and fast food shops that the kids always wants something from.

Spent three nights on the Boardwalk while on a road trip with my sister and two nieces and we were so disappointed in how littered and dirty the beach was that we didn't even think about getting into the water.

Lots of people for the holidays, and the weather was great. Sandy beach, water is OK about 70+F, brown beach and some sea weeds. Lifeguards present. Bathrooms decent. Paid showers available. Boardwalk with lots of shops and amusement centers. Food court takes cash only. Token $5 daily. Paid parking in lots, if you can find them!

We try and visit every October as the off season is our favorite time. The weather is usually still warm enough to be on the beach minus the crowds. Beaches are clean.

My family love the Ocean City beach. This is definitely the best family resort. The beach is full of happy families. Each one has a particular set-up routine and it is interesting to watch. The lifeguards are very attentive. We were all called out of the water at one point as one of the lifeguards on duty had to assist lifeguards further up the beach for a few minutes. The remaining lifeguard took the time to explain why we had to get out of the water. It wasn't a shark! He indicated that with the large number of people in the water, he wasn't able to watch everyone safely. We waited until the 2nd lifeguard returned, ( he was helping with a rescue) and then went back in the water. Nice feeling of security. We will be back next year.

All beaches here in Ocean City are great. Lifeguards on duty from morning to 6pm. Beaches well maintained. Umbrellas & beach chairs for rent along with boogie boards.

You have to be kidding. One must pay $25 to get on the beach unless you want to get there before 9 am. Some local hotels provide daily passes. I think it is a ripoff.

I love the beach here in Ocean Cit6 NJ. It has a gradual decline into the ocean. It has a nonsmoking policy which is great. You can rent a beach umbrella and chairs at 13th street and some other locations. There is a 2 and 1/2 mile wooden boardwalk with the usual T-shirt shops, restaurants, rides for kids and a music pier.

When I was 16 I went to 7th street with all the other kids back in the '70s. As a young mom of one child, we went to 12th Street. Then we figured out by our second child that 34th street is great for kids cause they aren't asking to go to the boardwalk every 7 minutes. Now I go to 33rd street sans kids...I reminisce watching young families making memories now!

Even though there are many beaches closer to NY along the Jersey Shore, we drive over 3 hours for our weekly beach house rental! Love the beach, town, boardwalk...everything!

Just visited OC last Saturday, very nice, water is clean, sand is as soft as the one in Wildwood. Boardwalk are close. But the amount of flies I saw on the beach creep me out no matter how beautiful the beach was. I can’t enjoy the beach and sun while there’re flies goes around me. As it turns out, I drove to wildwood where’s 40mins away.

I've been coming to Ocean City's beaches for 60+ years and love it here. OC has approximately 7 miles of beaches, so you have your choice of beach locations--looking at the Atlantic City skyline in the tony Gardens area, camp out along the boardwalk where it's crowded but near lots of food vendors, or plant your beach chair along one of the south-end beaches where it's less hectic. There's a beach for everyone! Parking your car can sometimes be a challenge during hot summer days, so be flexible when it comes to choosing a beach--you might have to go where a parking space becomes available. The only drawback is the beach is not free: in season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) all beachgoers need to purchase a beach tag (pre-season $20; in season $25; weekly $10; daily $5) and there are badge checkers everywhere, so just make the purchase so you're not hassled on the beach. Life guards are on most beaches in season, so if you like to swim, surf or boogey board in the ocean, do pick a beach that's guarded. I've travelled all over the world and I love OC's sand--it's very fine and not gravelly, and the beaches are not so huge you don't feel like you're walking miles lugging heavy beach equipment from your car to the waters edge. Another huge positive is the beach (and boardwalk) are smoke-free and since OC is a "dry" town, you're prohibited from bringing alcohol to the beach--so the atmosphere here is always very family-friendly. Lastly, dogs are not allowed on the beach until after Labor Day--but there is a year round designated dog beach at the base of the Longport bridge outside of OC, just take fido there for a good time during the summer months.

Lots of new drainage pipes installed which is necessary but takes away from the beach ambiance. Wheel chair & scooter mats installed near some ramps to beach making it nice for those in need to get a beach experience. Continuing to move sand to improve the beach. Loved the sign stating the "Ocean Closed". Lots of great memories here.

We visited in August and the water was comfortable, waves were decent for kids to body surf. I did see actual surfboarding allowed as well. Beach is very clean, You can rent umbrellas. Right on the boardwalk so plenty to do if you are not one to just sit for hours on the beach. Very family friendly, everyone respects there space as well as what music they may be playing if any.

We have been coming down to Ocean City, NJ for many years. There is always something to do on the beach and boardwalk. From the sights and sounds of the ocean, to the boardwalk entertainment, Ocean City is the number one family destination.

This is the best beach in OC if you’re looking for convenience and amenities nearby. There are handicapped accessible restrooms at 12th Street, a water station to rinse off, the 12th Street booth where you can buy beach tags + tickets for events in OC, a first aid station, and numerous eating places where you can get a bite to eat and take it back to the beach (if you mind the seagulls).

This is a wonderful family beach. It is kept super clean by the city. Beautiful sand and protected dunes. You can walk or run the length of the island.

On Friday, June 30, 2023, there were 6 of us, 3 adults and 3 children ages 9, 7 & 5. We wanted to go to the beach as we were visiting relatives near Philadelphia. We made the 2-1/2 hour drive arriving about 2 PM in Ocean City. To park the car 3 blocks away, we had to pay $25. Then when we got to the boardwalk, we found out it was $10 each to access the beach. This is an outrageous cost as the small kids were the same cost as the adults. So we paid $60, they demand cash. Once on the beach we found that there were Red flags (no swimming) all over, with one small area with Green flags (swimming allowed). The beach was so impossibly crowded and so was the small swimming area that you couldn't even move around without bumping into someone. There is a very large drain pipe emptying in the ocean right at this point creating a really bad odor. We spent about an hour on the beach, so the cost was a-dollar-a-minute. Definitely not worth it. The boardwalk is ok except the shops and restaurants are really expensive as well. We will never go back.

There are a lot of spaces in this area and it was Labor day weekend when we decided to take a dip in the beach for the weekend. This is the place where you will feel that your money is worth the price. The space that we could grab before swimming, how cleanliness it was, and lifeguards are on duty until sundown were the three major factors of the beach.

Beach was very crowded but beautiful. The sand was very soft and I had trouble finding a rock to help with my umbrella stand. Very relaxing and you could tell the lifeguards were paying attention.

The beach is beautiful, clean, and peaceful after Labor Day! The water is warm. There is a walking mat from the stairs and ramp off the boardwalk that allows people to walk easily quite away down to the beach. The mat was particularly helpful for my dad who walks with a walker. He did not struggle at all on the mat as he did last year before the mat was installed.
All of my life I vacationed in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island New Jersey. I still love LBI, but I am an Ocean City convert. I love it there!

A great, family friendly beach with plenty of amenities available on the boardwalk. You can easily rent umbrellas and chairs at most beach entry points.

We came here for a day trip and it was great to get out and go into the ocean. Few things; 1. Get there early; people set up and it can be very crowded. 2. You have to pay to go onto the beach; daily, weekly or you can buy a seasonal pass. 3. There are no public showers to wash off all the sand; there are bath houses you can pay to enter. There are also little spray washers on either end of the beach that are low to the ground and good for cleaning off your feet; but that's about it. 4. The ocean is watched over by lifeguards, and they have colored flags to let you know the safe areas to swim.
This was a great place to go for the day, lots of activities; miniature golf, great food places all over; even just walking along the boardwalk is enjoyable.
If you are looking for a family friendly place to go I would recommend this beach; it was a wonderful family day.

I see why Ocean City was voted best beach in the US! Not only is it safe, it is also fun! Easily the best beach on the Jersey Shore!

This may be the cleanest beach I have ever been to, thanks in large part to the services paid for by the beach tag fees, I'm sure. Totally worth it! It does get a little crowded during prime time, but not unmanageable, particularly towards the ends of the boardwalk.

Very clean and family oriented beach. Our children are grown but we enjoyed watching other families enjoy their children on the beach. Definitely a great shore place if you want to stay away from loud and crazy crowds.

It was a very hot day. Ocean City beach was the place to be. Water was refreshing. Still $5.00 per adult to access the beach. Kids 12 and under are free. Lifeguards take their job seriously. Especially the day we visited. Current and rip tide was very strong all day.

Grew up going to wildwood Bech and boards. As an adult I prefer Ocean City Beach and boards. Beach is nice and not as long of a walk to the water. Boards are the best! shops are so much nicer than other shore points. Wildwood does cater more to the kids.

That's right one of the best.
Forget about the reviewer who was negative as that was just sour grapes over something else .... god know what.
The water is a bit murky. It's the Atlantic Ocean! It's wide open and do the murkiness is not dirty but stirred up sand from the undertow. Anyone who lives near the beach knows this.
The beach does get crowded a bit in the summer - not in April.
But guess what..... every beach gets crowded in the summer.
If you want a quiet place in the summer - visit a ski slope!!
Ocean City beach along with the rest of the New Jersey shore is one of the nicest places you can visit with you family and if you have kids.... let them dig that hole to China that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
The beach also has one of the longest commercial boardwalks on the east coast.
Enjoy a wonderful day of pizza, boardwalk fries and ice cream and you'll be thankful you did when you've gone home from a most idyllic day!

While not spectacular or extraordinary in any particular way, the beach at Ocean City is very pleasant. Every morning it is freshly raked, so it is consistently clean. The sand is not as fine or white as what is found on the Gulf coast, and it has a lot of broken sea shells in it. The Life Guards are not obtrusive, but are highly alert and professional. Overall, it's a nice beach that I would be very happy to return to in the future.

While many head to mountain ski resorts for chilly Christmas cheer, we enjoyed spending December weekends in Ocean City. The town is decked out the streets with lights and decorations. The landmark ferris wheel lights the night sky with Christmas color lights. The stores are great for shopping and many of the restaurant's open for the weekends. The beach is pristine! What a wonderful place to enjoy a truly peaceful time during the rush and bustle most everywhere else this time of year.

I have been going to Ocean City my entire life. I remember when the Ocean went under the boardwalk at seventh street. This year we used the 22nd street beach. One of the best beaches I have seen. The dune grass gets larger every year. They rake the sand every day. The beach is well protected by great life guards.

I've been going to OCNJ for nearly 60 years so it almost seems like a second home. I live in NC now and prefer the less crowded beaches down here, but OCNJ always will have a place in my heart--and stomach!

....OVERALL 6
OCEAN CITY BEACH is not much to write home to mum about from the aesthetics point of view. When I visited the beach was pretty narrow from the high water mark to the start of the small section of dunes (low fore-dunes covered with daggy marrum grass) before the boardwalk. Like ATLANTIC CITY BEACH**to the north sand was not as pristine as less used beaches. Most of the beach was also split into small sections by a series of transverse groynes (the aim is to trap drifting sand) which did little for the appearance++
But the atmosphere was terrific. OCEAN CITY is a top family resort area (lack of booze – yeah, this town is dry – helps) and the weekend day after LABOR DAY saw the beach packed with people in that fabulous holiday mood. As was the terrific BOARDWALK** lined with diners, drinks joints and fun fairs (but no bars, casinos or fortune-telllers) just behind.
TIPS
- BEACH TAGS – like many NJ beach towns which find themselves packed with half the population of Baltimore, DC, Philly, Trenton yada on nice weekends, OB has beach tags from early June thru Sept5th. Coming from the land of free beaches I’m kinda philosophically opposed – but fair enough, USERS, not just locals, should pay for lifeguards, trash collection etc. Funny thing is on my quick visits to the sand and water (messy onshore slop but reasonably clean) no-one asked if I had a tag.
- lifeguard stations were frequent with quaint surf-rescue boats on the sand every 100m or so.
- ACCESS: lotsa curbside parking plus paid lots in the streets behind the beach. I came down from ATLANTIC CITY by regular bus in a little over 30mins. Of course a lot of you will be staying in near-beach holiday accommodation from where it is a relatively short walk
++I feel many holidaymakers who see a beach maybe once a year may be much less critical than me – a beach blogger with over 3 million hits who has visited thousands of beaches over the past 30years
**TRIPADVISOR has a separate review page on these.

We visited this beach during September. It wasn't overly crowded during our stay. The beach was clean & well maintained. While here we were able to watch a free air show.

I am partial to OC since I have been coming here for over 60 years. Now here with grandchildren who are loving it as much as their parents did. The sand is soft, beaches clean and live guards every other block. Although there are beach tag requirements for adults, the cost is minimal. Beach rentals abound with easy access to the sand and Atlantic Ocean. Riding the waves here is an experience on which memories last for a lifetime.

9th street beach is great however get there early as it gets crowded. It is perfect when you have older children. When the older children want a break from ocean/beach, they can walk on the boardwalk getting their treats leaving me time to relax and read on the beach.

The September beach is a slower paced affair. Crowds are less, beaches not crowded. There are no life guards and some boardwalk stores are closed in cool/rainy weather. But the relaxation allowed makes up for all of that.

We try to go to OC every year, even if it is just for a day. This year we were on the 9th street beach. Usually we are around 15th or 17th. The 9th street beach has a cool feature, with a stone jetty going out to the sea. At low tide we even found some hermit crabs around the jetty.
As usual, Ocean City delivered! We love it there since it is low key and great for families!

I love the Jersey Shore but not on weekends. Im a born and raised Jersey grandma yet this was my first time in Ocean City. We visited the beach between 8th & 9th Street and it was horribly crowded. However it was clean and I was so impressed with the lifeguards. I've never seen such a well run machine. The cost and availability of parking was good. Ocean City is an alcohol free town. As much as I like my cocktails I can see the benefits from their rules. I would love to go back but I would like to go during the week.

Our family has been getting a rental in Ocean City, Nj since the 90's when our kids wete small. Now they are grown with their own kids and Ocean City over Labor Day week is avtradition oassed on as avtime to relax and recomnect with family who have moved all over the East Coast. We all rent biles and ride each morining to the Boardwalk, take the kids to the rides at night, soak up the rays during the day. It is a great family location and there is plenty to do. The beaches are wide with soft white sand. It is a dry town so buy your booze on Somers Point across the bridge.

Ocean City has some of the best beaches in the world. They are clean and pristine with lifeguards on duty for safety. It is a great place for children to get their first taste of the ocean with their shovels and buckets. You can walk up to the boardwalk for bathrooms or a snack. It is a great place to walk on the beaches at night.

Great beach to enjoy the sun and sand with you children and grandchildren on the Jersey shore.
Came here as a child, brought our children and are now bringing our grandchildren. The beach is well tended and the boardwalk just adds to the appeal. Many great restaurants are on and off the beach.

The beach at Ocean City is well maintained and very attractive. Definitely two thumbs up, so to speak.

I know this is mother earths doing but if your looking for a pretty beach, not really here! Water is brown.

The beaches are well guarded and clean. You can rent umbrellas and chairs. The beach fees are reasonable.

We have been going to Ocean City for many years. This year we visited in late July. The beach is a nice size (not too far to walk to get to the waters edge), well maintained and there are responsive life guards on duty just about every block for the summer months. There are trash and recycle receptacles at each beach entrance area. Umbrellas and chairs available for rental at various vendor locations along the beach. Summer Beach tags (payment entrance fees) are required and can be purchased downtown, from the vendors at the designated beach street/boardwalk entrances or from the town employees roaming the beach checking daily that beachgoers have paid for a tag. Summer daily, weekly, season tags information is on Ocean City, NJ website. We enjoyed the 'salt air and sea breezes' and look forward to our next return visit.

The beach is always nice, generally good waves. But I prefer the south end where there is no boardwalk, just sand dunes and waves. There is usually a sand bar on which you walk pretty far out at low tide. But pay attention to the tides as the water can get over waist deep at high tide, and the currents are tricky then due to the river outlet.
This end of the beach is generally quiet and less populated, a nice place to take your sweety for a dip.

The beach is always clean, the guards attentive, and the boardwalk close enough for everyone to wander up and get something to eat or to play in the arcades when a break is needed.

How amusing to watch the surfers tackle the waves from a storm's aftermath. Brisk but a walk ob the beach is always a joy.

This is a nice beach town but at high tide there is not a lot of beach. What there is of it is nice. The beach patrol is alert and swimming areas are well marked and everything is clean and nicely kept.

We stayed at a place right on the beach so we could walk right out to the beach with your morning coffee. The beach combers were out in the early morning making sure the beach was clean and ready for the beach goers through the day. You have to by a beach tag but I understand this to be the same with all NJ beaches. I didn't mind paying for this becasue it is a well taken care of beach. The lifeguards were attentive as we watched some people get a little too far out in the waves. Would recommend this beach to anyone wanting a relaxing day in the sun.

This is a beautiful fun beach. I gave it 4 stars because
1. There are limited swim areas ( between the two green flags)
2. The water is okay but not clear blue
3. The beach is always Super Crowded!
Okay all that being said we had a fantastic time boogie board surfing!!! And the boardwalk is really a lot of fun.
Great great great family vacation

Beware of the crowded beaches. They only allow you to swim between flags placed in the sand by the lifeguards. The lifeguards crowd all the swimmers into a small space and it's ridiculous. All that beach and such a limited swimming area. Delaware and Maryland beaches are much less congested as they do not herd you into a corral when you swim. Major drawback for OC in my opinion.

Miles of clean beaches with life guards. Don't forget to get a beach pass before going. If you love the beach, this is the place to go

Morning coffee on the beach before the lifeguards arrive or late afternoon for a bite on the beach are our favorite times! Still well maintained, parking can be problematic if you're not early enough but worth the laps to enjoy the surf, sun & sand ...

We had a nice off-season day at the boardwalk and beach at Ocean City. The wide beach was great for walking and in warmer weather must be a great place to swim and cool off. There was ample access to the beach from the boardwalk along with plenty of restaurants, amusements and shopping if the waves don't tempt you.

Spent many an afternoon on the beach here when younger, 10th Street! Great family environment.
Safe and Clean! Boardwalk is right there for any needs that could arise!

Ocean City Beach was quite crowded and very windy the day we were there. We had trouble with our umbrella and the guy from the umbrella rental came down to help us even though it was our own umbrella. Everyone was courteous. Word of warning, don't feed the sea gulls.

I really like Ocean City - abundant parking, clean beaches, good boardwalk. I know that someone has to pay for it but I detest having to buy a beach tag to go on the beach. Maybe a discounted tag for New Jersey residents?

I was there for a reunion with friends and had a great time taking in the sights on the boardwalk and enjoying the outdoor food at a festival that weekend.

We usually really enjoy this park but this year there were about five or more rides closed including the big wheel. We were very disappointed as we ride the wheel every year.
Employees are always nice and Park is very clean.
But, We just did not like how so many rides were closed. We went back to the other amusement park on the boardwalk where all the rides were open.

Oceana City knows how to make families happy. The stores are welcoming and the beach is sandy :-) and clean. The fireworks display is not to be missed. The beach is the place to watch them, as they are shot off a barge in the ocean around 9th street. can city has something to do for all ages , all days and nights. Not to be ,missed
.

When we head back East and want to go to the shore - Ocean city is the only choice. It is alcohol free and perfect for families. You have to buy beach tags but that will be the case anywhere on the shore. We stop at the dollar store, pick up some buckets and toys for the kids and spend a few days here at the shore- paradise!

This is our favorite beach. We love the clean beach and boardwalk. Definitely a place for family. Love it.

Beach was under replenishment and sections of beach in the center of town were closed. North end of the beach had a very large pipe across beach making the walk to the water difficult for anyone with mobility challenges.

This is probably the cleanest beach in SJ. There are crews out every morning raking and cleaning the beach. The sand is average. Plenty of spots to park your towels and enjoy the ocean.

Wow! I was shocked at how little beach exists between the dunes and the surf, especially downtown. Brighton Beach around 4th Street is really bad...lots of people sardined onto a narrow strip of beach. Very sad although the beach widens further uptown. Call in the ACOE!

My family (spous, 2 kids, 2 grandparents) have been renting a house in OCNJ for almost ten years. There's nothing like the powdery sand of OC. The lifeguards are friendly. The waves are perfect for boogie boarding. The boardwalk is safe, alcohol and smoke-free. We'll be back again next year~!

Preferring off season strolls on the beach, this one is perfect. The beautiful pier and boardwalk attractions offer many photo ops. This time we were lucky to find some sea glass.

3.15,18
We come from Florida where we have white sand beaches and this is more brown tinged sand.
Very cold today with winds 35 mph so the wind chill made it seem like 15 degrees but the air was refreshing,
the Doctor Hit me with some LOVE ❤️💕 and a helpful VOTE!

This is one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. It is endless as well. Very whit sand and very clean condition. If you want quiet head away from 6th street beach. If you want action or food or large crowds stay between 5th and 11th streets. I prefer calm and like to go way uptown or downtown. Very secluded areas.

Doesn't get any better than OCNJ beaches. Clean and family friendly... I'll pay for the beach tags! Guards are great and key everyone safe.

This is a very clean, sandy beach! Perfect for kids, families & adults! Bring your skim boards, boogie boards & beach toys! Surf boards are available for rent on the boardwalk at a few local surf shops for about $30/day! So fun to play on the beach & then grab a treat on the boardwalk! Or bring your own food! Beach tags are available for purchase & are required for entrance on the beach.

Have gone to Ocean City each of the last 3 years. In terms of a family experience, there's no better beach destination in NJ. OC's combination of houses, condos, and motels provide many options.
The town is dry so don't need to worry about drunk drivers and late shenanigans. Everything is geared to be family friendly. If you have young kids, this is as good a place as there is in NJ for family vacation.
Amusements and Boardwalk are manageable to walk and enjoy. Very safe for kids.

Ocean city has the best beach. It's so clean and the lifeguards are great. They now offer beach chair and umbrella rentals.

Boogie boarding ... sunset strolls ... bike riding ... amusement rides like the Doubke Shot and Ferris wheel ... fresh Spadafora seafood ... Hawaiian suntan lotion ... hanging out with family and friends ... beach reading ... sunbathing ... Ocean City has it all!

This was the friendliest beach that I've visited in a long time. Lots of various guests enjoying a wonderful day at the beach...!!!

This was my first visit to Ocean City New Jersey. The beach was very nice. It was clean and not too crowded. I was very happy that we were able to rent chairs and a umbrella because this was an impromptu trip and was not prepared for the beach. There were lifeguards who kept a good eye on everyone.

We had a great time on the beach Lifeguards are on duty and the ocean was clean very little trash and the birds did not bother us. Very pleasant. thought there were many people on the beach. We we at dusk to watch the sunset and that was great.

We took a late afternoon walk in late October. The beach was not very crowded and was quite clean. It was a nice time to watch the sunset.

Beautiful beaches, family atmosphere, lots to do in season, real estate people are friendly. Bud at Fox Realty is helpful.

The beach in ocean city beach s so amazing! You simply must go to it if you are going to ocean city. The beach is so big, so you have plenty of room to set up and relax on the sand? There are umbrellas you can rent if you don’t have any that you own. The ocean is always open for swimming during the day, so the kids can go swimming. There are friendly life guards that are always working. You can surf in a different part of the beach, so you don’t run into any swimmers. At night you can walk the beach, but you can’t swim.

Clean and wholesome down time. Great place for the family, or just to get away. Great boardwalk without the bad company. Great fudge. saltwater taffy, and pizza places.

You may have to pay to get on this beach but it is well worth it for a family friendly beach experience.

The beach near our hotel was fairly close to the water. OC doesn't require beach tags, like many of the other beaches in NJ do.

I had read that this was voted one of America's top family beaches. It's decent, but I'm not sure it is up there in the elite level. It's definitely a nice beach, but narrow and it got really packed especially when the tide came in. On the way home we went to Island Beach State Park. Now this has to be up there amongst the best beaches in the US.

This was our first time at OCNJ & We really were impressed. The lifeguards were super kind and patient as we had many questions with young kids and rough waters. I definitely recommend this beach for families - thanks OCBP !!!
Loved renting the chairs and umbrella ($19)
We will be back !

Cost to purchase a tag for the beach is $5. Once on the beach, you can enjoy the white sand beach and the water. Lifeguards are present.m A+

Beautiful warm sandy beaches, they can be crowded lots of umbrellas lots of people but very fun!!! This is my first time to Ocean City and I love the beach!! There are life guards and you want to make sure that you have at Ocean City beach tag for the beach. Everyone was so friendly it was just so beautiful!!!

This beach is very family friendly. We stayed at the Pavillion which is a half block off the boardwalk. You can rent bikes for one or for the family at a reasonable price. The boardwalk is bustling with all ages in the morning walking, running or biking. You can have breakfast Oceanside at a reasonable price. Oh! There is a dollar store on the boardwalk for families on a budget!
You do have to pay to get on the beach but it is clean! And there is lifeguards. The boardwalk has an amusement area for kids too!

Great family beach! Lifeguards were on their game so we felt completely safe! It was so convenient being on the beach so close to the boardwalk, the teenage kids were able to go up and play mini golf or just get a ice cream cone. We love that you honor the military and we got to sing the Anthem right from the beach! We love Ocean City see you next year!

Great clean beach. Lots of hermit crabs to see in the morning, fish swimming in the shallow water. It does get very full later in the day, get there early to claim a spot.

We really enjoy going to OC Beach. It is family-friendly. The lifeguards are attentive. It is a popular place to visit, so it is often fairly full, but we still manage to find a spot and enjoy ourselves. It is a private beach, so you do need beach tags. There was someone checking for tags one day when we were there. There is some trash left behind by visitors, so please just pick up after yourselves and keep it decent for the rest of us. Trash receptacles are easy to find.

Really enjoyed three days sitting on this very well maintained uncrowded Beach. I don't know what it's like here during the busy summer months but in the middle of September the beach was empty the water was still warm and the weather was perfect. I imagine with the boardwalk being so close this is a fantastic family beach during the summer. Will definitely return next year.

Ocean City is a great beach but avoid it on holiday weekends at all costs - it is so crowded you can barely find a place to put your stuff down.

We come down to oc alot in the summer we have family not to far and spend most of our beach days here. We get season passes before Memorial Day for $20 a badge. The beach is always clean when we are there. It does get crowded near the boardwalk especially around 9th street and the beach is really small there. High numbers are were you want to be if you just want to sit on the beach.

I love this Beach enough to be my only vacation beach. Its kept clean and repaired. The heavy concentration on being a family vacation spot is evident.

Yes, you do have to buy a beach tag and this is unusual for many of us outside of the area. However, for your money, you get very clean beaches (cleansed via bulldozers every AM!), garbage cans, very vigilant lifeguards, specific, marked swimming and surfing areas, and very easy access to restrooms. You are also moments away from the boardwalk with access to 2 amusement parks, a small water park, a movie theater, a surf school, many mini golf and escape room options, and a ton of food choices. There is also a fishing pier.

Ocean City is always keeping the beaches clean and comfortable. I've been coming my whole life and no matter where you stay there is a great beach nearby.

Crowded, yes...but still a great place for the family made all the better by the absence of booze. Well kept, well groomed and clean. Beach tabs...reasonable...needed from 10-5 or so. A perputual joy!

Went with friends, had 3 small children. Beach was clean and bath house was great. Perfect place for the kids to play in the sand and in the water (where the waves crash). We can't wait to go back!

Beautiful beach close to home, our family vacation for past 15yr, Great weekend getaway for the 2 of us, we had great time

Lifeguards, beach chair and umbrella rentals, place to park a bike- it's easy Family access and fun.

I went with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, right off of the boardwalk. Parking was expensive but convenient. The beach was pretty crowded. The ocean was also crowded, as there were only 25 yards out of the whole area we could swim in. It's very clean tho and anytime at the beach is a good time!

Absolutely the best place to have a wonderful, friendly, clean and FUN vacation! I wish we could have stayed longer. Wonderful hotel- clean, friendly staff, right on the boardwalk. We will be back next year for sure!

Ocean City NJ beaches are clean, well guarded, family friendly beaches. With lifeguards stationed every few streets, and accessible ramps, Ocean City beaches are enjoyed for their safety, and their cleanliness. Ocean City has a boardwalk for a good portion of their beach where you can run up and get something to eat or use the public restrooms. There are also roving vendors selling frozen treats and they ring the bell when they arrive at your beach so you can go buy a treat. Ocean City does require beach tags in season except for Wednesdays, I believe.

Rented a home in ocean city for a week. Went to the beach daily. Very nice and clean. They just need to add a mat on the entrance so when you roll the cart it makes it easier

Definitely my favorite beach in NJ, and in the mid-Atlantic area in general! The sand is soft and clean, the beach is hardly ever too busy, and the water is super nice.

Beautiful beaches. A little crowded near the the boardwalk but better as you went further away. Our favorite beach!

Beach is always clean. Now smoke free, as well as the boardwalk! Ample life guard protected areas for swimming.

This beach was nice & clean but super crowded. It was a holiday weekend so totally understandable. The water is pretty rough but my kids love that, maybe not the best for younger kids. There was a lot area covered by each lifeguard stand.

This beach is not groomed. It does not have soft white sand and its full of stinky seaweed. There are a lot of broken shells and rocks making it a not very good walking beach. At high tide there is no beach. the water goes all the way up to the San dunes, which are protected for the birds so you cannot set up there. Go to Avon or Belmar, beautiful beaches. Also, Avon has free parking.. Paid $25 to park at Ocean City NJ Beach. The board walk is small. Opt for Wildwood instead, just a little further and well worth the ride.

I've been to a lot of beaches all over the world. We can't compete with the water in the Caribbean but the sand and surf are fantastic here. Great sand, not rocks. Bring some baby powder and when you want to get the sand off of your feet and your babies then brush them with baby powder. Sand comes right off! It's just a gorgeous beach. Enjoy!

The room we booked gave us Beach tags, so not sure how much the entrance was, but it's a short walk to water. And peaceful.

This is a great beach! Not too crowded, but enough for people-watching. Good for both swimming and walking, as well as just relaxing. I'd come again!

No matter the season, this 8 mile stretch of beach brings joy to all. Lifeguards are on alert on many beaches from May to September keeping all swimmers safe from rip tides and heavy surf.
The sand is white and as soft as powder.
During the summer there are beach umbrellas for rent on many of the beaches.
There are various daily, weekly and seasonal beach tags for sale. These fees are used to keep the beaches swept clean on a daily basis.
Dogs are not allowed on the beaches.
Once you put your feet on that sand, you will never want to leave.

This is very nice sandy beach that is clean. The water is clean too and there are lifeguards around. On the downside if you are above say 20th street there are no food stores, bathrooms, or restaurants, and no beach chairs or umbrella rentals. Overall, a nice place to spend the day with the family. Finally, you have to purchase beach tags each season.

Ocean City beach is a generally clean, family oriented beach. The central part of the beach is wide and life guards are usually available from 10 am to 5:30 pm. on weekdays and up to 5:00 pm on weekends. Tags are $10.00 for the week, and $5:00 per day per person. So, if you are planning on being on the beach for three days or more in the week, it's economical to buy the $10 tag for the week. They are available from booths on the boardwalk, or tag inspectors stationed at the path entrances to the beach.
The boardwalk is fairly long, approximately 2.5 miles. There are a variety of restaurants along the boardwalk that offer all kinds of food. There are also souvenir stores offering beach and cliche accessories, clothing and decor items. Business didn't seem to be as brisk as expected, but good enough to bring smiles on the faces of proprietors and their employees, happy to be at work and eager to sell their products.
On the boardwalk there are also amusements parks where the family can have fun. There is 'Playland's Castaway Cove', consisting of 4 roller coasters and a variety of rides that are geared towards kids, and others that can be enjoyed as a family. Another amusement Park is 'Gillian's Wonderland Pier' where the spectacular Ferris Wheel can be seen from miles around including from certain areas in Atlantic City. There are also a few rides in this Park. Another amusement park is the 'Ocean City Waterpark' that provides a lazy river and a few other rides that would surely amuse the kids.
If you don't want to walk the boardwalk, there is the option of renting a buggy on 12th street, or other locations along the boardwalk. The buggies are of different sizes. Some can accommodate 2 peddlers or 4 peddlers or 6 peddlers, and each has space for kids. It is really a fun way to move along the boardwalk, which is wide enough to allow buggies and pedestrians to safely move around.
There are a number of parking garages close to the boardwalk. I was parked on Ocean Avenue and 11th Street, for $5:00 for a 12 hour period. There is another Parking Lot on 12th and Ocean for a reasonable charge. This was during the week, so weekend may be higher.
Ocean City is a wonderful location to spend part of the summer. You can practice safety measures by using the sanitizing stations located near the railing every few yards along the boardwalk. If you want to enjoy your stay be smart and wear your mask, and practice social distancing, and you will make wonderful memories of a lifetime.

I grew up going to OCMD. I was hesitant to change locals, but after spending time in OCNJ and then returning to OCMD, there was no comparison. We have returned to OCNJ every summer and even in October. It is the perfect combination of beautiful beach time, fun boardwalk options, and family memories.

We walked to the beach and it was closed. There were red flags on the poles and you could not go in the water. So we just decided to take a walk along the beach. Then, a tag checker approached us and asked for our tags or money. I said, "the beach is closed and we can't go in the water here". Still wanted the money anyway. I said we were going to leave, so while we were packing up our stuff he stood there the entire time and watched us like a policeman. And if that wasn't enough, four other checkers came and joined him and watched us. They followed us up to the boardwalk and even watched as we walked down the street to our car! We kept looking back after we got to our car two blocks away and they were all still standing there at the entrance to the boardwalk, just watching us. My family should not have to feel like we are being harrassed and kicked off the beach. And this really spoiled the day for us, so next time I would rather drive 15 minutes further to Wildwood Crest where it is free.

Great place to relax this time of year. The crowds are down, and I like sitting in a beach chair, book in hand, hearing the waves.

Beaches were magnificent even during off-season. We went during September 2020 and they were still well maintained and cleaned on a daily basis. We walked stitches from 5th all the way to the end of the island at 58th street. Wonderful and relaxing. Lots of sand and plenty of room during these Covid times. Ocean City N.J. still has some of the best beaches in N. J.

Recently spent a week at the beach with my friends and our kids and even though it was cold for the first half of the week the kids loved it! The beach was clean and well taken care of and the lifegaurds did a great job, there were 2 rescues on other beaches while we were there. We were there a week before the season started so the beach wasn't packed.

The Ocean City beach is very clean, with access points and public restrooms frequently. We have never been to the beach in September. It was better than over the summer - not crowded, ample parking and no beach tag fees after Labor Day

Family friendly boards and beaches. Fun for all ages from 0-100. This dry town offers an escape from the annual senior trips and college vacations. Biking and walking friendly town with great boutique shopping and meals.

This is one of the best times of the year to walk the beach. No crowds to dodge and many sea treasures for the picking. If you look carefully you are likely to find pieces of sea glass and some of the larger shells. This is one of the times of the year that you can walk your dogs on the beach. If you do so, just remember to clean up so we don’t loose this privilege. Enjoy this special time of the year.

Not a big beach, but great for families. Every time we came here it never felt crowded. Easy walking distance from most living spaces. Ample street parking.

Grew up going to the jersey shore, but I'm always disappointed going back. Broken shells everywhere from adding sand to the beach, and I mean EVERYWHERE. Same in the ocean. Brutal. I want to like it because it's easy to get to but just can't. It's the last time. Love you jersey, but I gotta go south of Virginia for a real beach.

Plenty of parking and there are street meters but also parking lots, fee vary but worth the trip. Showers on 13th street for a small fee but they provide everything you need to refresh yourself after a beach day. Beach is always clean, chairs-umbrella for rent or bring your own. I buy a seasonal beach tag but you can purchase a day pass. Plenty of clean restrooms, shopping, rides. and food choices on the boardwalk and parking is just off the beach so don't worry. It helps to purchase ride tickets and beach tags preseason for a discount. I don't do rides or bother much with the family stuff but they have plenty to do. Water parks and more. You can do everything in a day but I have plenty of friends that have a 2nd home here. If you are young and need a summer job any of the NJ shore points have plenty of opportunity. Atlantic city to cape may are only minutes away from each other so plan your family vacation and enjoy each and every thing NJ has to offer.

We had a good time.weather didn't cooperate but nice to get away. Clean ⛱️ beach. I wish they didn't charge to get on the beach ,( thankfully our hotel gave beach tags) but otherwise I don't get that. The kids played in the water,it was nice sitting just listening to the water!

Always good to relax on. Lots of tiny shells. Plenty of beach for everyone to share. Not a long walk from boardwalk.

OCNJ is our go to spot on the Jersey shore. Family friendly, clean beaches with lots of activities for the kids on boardwalk.

Love Ocean City Boardwalk!!!!
Wonderland pier always a hit with the kids
Rides are great, boardwalk clean, food is fun and yummy!!!
Chickie and Pete’s fries!!
Great shops, perfect for families

Rainy morning..... clearing on afternoon. Lots of fun! The crowd stays on beach right on boardwalk.
Better parking and less people if you try the off boardwalk places.

Very clean beach, not many seashells or rocks in the sand. Went in late afternoon, wasn't crowded at all. Didn't have to get tags or anything. Visited when there was a rip current warning, but still many people swimming. Lifeguards had flags up to limit swimming in a small space. Wish they had more showers and a changing room. Bathrooms were crowded.

The weather and the water were perfect during our visit. Clean beach. Great seashell finds. Family friendly. Happy spot.

OC claims to be ‘America’s Greatest Family Resort’. Maybe at one time but lately I have considered seller my property. Being a dry town there has been wide spread drinking and profanity all over the beach. Carrying on in the city parking lots by youth. This place has rapidly gone way down hill. This is the first review I have ever written. Such a shame to see this happen to what was once a old fashion gem. Tried to contact the mayor’s office via email Weeks ago and to-date absolutely no response. The once pleasurable boardwalk is experiencing the same decline. Local officials please get this place under control. Don’t allow a few in fear of turning away tourists ruin long term tourism.

Family beach, very clean... One of the nicest beaches I’ve been to. Water is a little chilly but you expect that. Great for families!

Family friendly town, peaceful and clean! How I spend every morning walking and down time sunbathing. My husband's favorite place to metal detect! There are fees during the summer months but the rest of the year is free!

Ocean city, NJ remains my favorite place to visit. After the beach replenishment project the beaches
are now quite large especially at the southern end. They do have beach fees during the season but many rental, properties provide the beach tags for you. A walk along the water's edge will often be a collectors site for shells.

I’ve avoided the Jersey shore for 20 years, but was desperate when my Myrtle Beach plans fell through. I can’t wait to come back! It’s crowded and still in re-opening pandemic phase, but it’s great! Right now, masks are required indoors and pools are still closed. I love that the boardwalk has everything you need and perfect for strolling, biking, etc. There’s public bathrooms and they are pretty clean considering the crowd. I recommend staying at a hotel or rental that has parking so you don’t have to worry about public parking. We are a block away from beach and access is very easy. Everyone walks, so it’s not difficult with car traffic. I’ve barely needed to drive anywhere- grocery store, Wawa, restaurants are all within walking distance. They clean up the beach daily so when we get out there in the am, it’s perfect. Don’t forget to get beach tags!

Beach is relaxing and quieter than others because OC is a dry town. Be aware of the tide when you pick your spot because you may have to move rather quickly. Boardwalk offers many food choices but I miss the days of just buying hot dogs and burgers. Umbrellas and chairs are available for rent. Umbrellas are $10 for day but unsure of chair prices. Beach is clean but be aware of broken shell pieces as you walk closer to water.

You can’t go wrong by heading to Ocean City New Jersey. This truly is America‘s family beach! After coming here for 30+ years I cannot see myself going anywhere else! I’ve made so many memories and had so many amazing family times here that it will always be a part of my life. It does get crowded around the Fourth of July (that is typical at most beaches). Never a bad time to visit. Be advised that it is a try town so you can’t order a beer or BYOB with your meal (but you can bring alcohol in to the town).

Beach is small and congested. Swimming is restricted to certain areas. I know it's for everyone's safety but everyone's constantly bumping into one another. It costs 5$ for beach tags

Ocean city, is a great town, and community, with great wide beaches and a terrific boardwalk, truly a family resort

This beach is clean and family friendly. We visited after dinner, hoping to avoid overcrowding and it was well worth it. My kids have been to OC, MD many times, but this was their first time in OC, NJ. They felt like the water was clearer and they had a great time finding baby crabs and sand crabs. We will visit this beach again!

Beach is clean, life guards are on watch at 10. Outside of having to pay for beach tags, it's a nice beach. Have to remember your in NJ so expect brown water and alot of seaweed.

Really quick service for a resort town. Waitress was pleasant and no request ignored. Love this place

We have been coming to OC NJ for over 10 years. Maybe 3-4 trips per year. We stay at a local hotel. The beach is great. People who visit here and so nice and friendly. The beach area is very family oriented . People watch their kids and look out for others. The boardwalk is the best. Great shops with all kinds of merchandise there's something for everyone. The same shop owners are here year after year.

Clean and for the most part I felt safe to sit on the beach but not in the ocean because there were too many people allowed to crowd.

I love this entire town that made it so family oriented. It is a dry town!!!!! (This may be a deterrent for some--but those with young children it is a megas plus!) The beach was one of the cleanest I saw and many families were out. :)

The locals make sure this beach stays clean and good for families. Get there early so you can get a good spot and view of the ocean and not have to deal with looking at a ton of umbrellas for beach chairs

It is always so clean, and plenty of different locations to set your chairs, etc in a comfortable, uncrowded area!

Nice wide beach with inexpensive rentals on umbrellas and chairs. Boardwalk fun for all. Lots of hotels places to eat things to do. Wonderful shore location. Lots of parking.

This is the cleanest beach I have seen - they really care about the atmosphere for families. The waves are strong, but that is the fun for everyone, to ride the waves. My 9 year old, 15 year old, husband and I had a blast. We never had a problem finding a space to "camp", felt very safe, and it wasn't too busy.

Much shorter walk from the boardwalk to the water than Wildwood, but the beach was packed. We walked down to the water and turned around, ready to go.

Because of work going on to repair the shoreline, the open area of the beach near the boardwalk was uncomfortably packed by 10AM on a Tuesday. The area to swim was even smaller (maybe 50 feet wide) and the lifeguards strictly enforced this even though there seemed to be more room available. The water was also a weird shade of black. Our 2nd day in OC we drove down the shore a bit away from the boardwalk and parked (for free) around 35th street and used the beach there. It was a thousand times better. Smaller crowds, plenty of room for playing and swimming and the water looked normal. The boardwalk in OC is nice but I recommend visiting it separately and using the beach elsewhere.

Since OCNJ is a dry town, this beach and the boardwalk tend to be much more family-friendly. Sand and water are clean and employees are friendly.

OCB is a very nice area to visit all year around. It is well maintained and is very close to the boardwalk that offers various dining and entertainment options. It was a bit cold and windy today, but we still enjoy walking there.

1. Senior week kids partied too hard
2. City’s rotten solution is that for 2023 the entire beach now closes at 8 pm for everyone. Sunset in June is almost 9:30 pm.
3. Beach tags are enforced by city and you have to pay each day to walk on the beach.
4. I’m going elsewhere

Cigarette butts in the sand even though you are not supposed to smoke on the beach people smoke there anyway. Too many green flies on the beach as soon as it gets hot. Some areas of the beach have not been replenished with sand that has eroded away. Beach is often overcrowded. Seaweed often in the ocean. Sorry, not much good to say about Ocean City, NJ beach.

This is a great beach!! Clean Beautiful just great. easy access to beach. One of the nicest beaches in New Jersey!!

Water is great, clean, family friend and safe. I still love no drinking and just being families have a great time.

I had never been to Ocean City, NJ before. We arrived about 10 am and we were happy to find parking lots right next to the beach where for $20 we could park all day.
We then walked down the boardwalk to what looked like a good spot on the beach. We paid for a day pass and got down to relaxing. We rented an umbrella and 2 beach chairs for $20 which the guy set up for us. The day was very relaxing. The beach got busy but never to the point of being crowded. The water was chilly and the life guards were very attentive.
There were plenty of bathrooms available on the boardwalk which were clean.
The boardwalk was very clean and enjoyable. Almost everyone followed the rules for wearing masks when supposed to, so it was safe too.
I didn’t realize the beach was a “dry” beach. That undoubtedly contributed to the family friendly atmosphere of the area.
Overall, I highly recommend this beach town. Safe, clean, organized, enjoyable and relaxing.

The beach is disappearing and the sand that is left is packed solid. I though the prime reason for charging people a fee to use the beach (yes, Ocean City charges a fee to access the beach) was to maintain it. I know they are still collecting the fees but I didn’t see much evidence of maintenance.
I also think the time has come to get rid of the life guards. They force everyone into small areas it make it easier for the guards but those small sections get very crowded for swimming. Their whistles blow constantly as they try to keep everyone in the water “between the green flags”. When my children were young, I considered it my job to keep them safe in the water - more safe than a summer job teen watching hundreds of people in the water. FYI - ball plying is against the beach rules according to the posted signs but I’ve never seen it enforced.

We have been going to this location forever. This year (& last & next) we rented a 7 Bd, beach front home in the south end of town. No streets for the little ones to cross for beach access and beautiful views from the second floor deck. Dinner at Cousins, always good, breakfast at “the airport” also pretty good. Close to Acme and sub shops, our teens ate too many subs from Sack of Subs, even took some to go for their drive back to Michigan. Can’t beat OC, NJ!

The only drawback is the lifegaurds move the green flags everyday so u never know where to set up ur canopy until 10am. I wish they'd hire more gaurds and widen the swimming areas also . Otherwise it's beautiful.

The beach was being worked, because the water had traveled to close to the shoreline. There were crabs everywhere!

We flew our kites twice this winter, it was a great way to enjoy the ocean when it's cold out. Beautiful place.

Ocean City Beaches are clean and ready for fun. They are not too far from the boardwalk/street that you have to carry all of your beach gear too far. The lifeguards are wonderful and very helpful. Over the many years we have been attending the Ocean City Beaches they have helped with first aide to locating my niece who wondered off. The only thing that would make them better is if they were free but I am whiling to pay for a nice beach!

Great beach to relax with family. Beach rentals are a plus clean beach but lacks a place to shower or rinse off sand

Growing up, we went to Wildwood. As I started my own family, we continued to go to Wildwood- and then did a few summers in Florida. We decided one year to give Ocean City, New Jersey a try. We loved it. It is a dry town but there are restaurants and bars in nearby towns (a 5-10 minute drive). We love the south end and we stay there because of the quiet residential environment. We drive to the boardwalk when we go, which is only once or twice as we do not have young children. The beach is clean. We rent through Berger Realty each year and they are so easy to work with! I can’t wait to go back!

The beach was beautiful. It was very clean and they have lifeguards that you can rent umbrellas and chairs from - so saves you from lugging everything to beach. They even set them up for you.
Beautiful beach

Come here for the sunrise. It is gorgeous. Don't forget to bring money becasue along the beach you will find a wooden boardwalk where a lot of restaurants and gift and amusements shops are located.

Do I love this beach! It’s clean and certainly spacious. Easy to walk on and rent chairs and umbrellas. Get yourself a boogie board and ride in some waves.

I have been vacationing in Ocean City New Jersey for over 50 years. For many of those years it was a wonderful family resort. No longer. Beach is full of unsupervised teenagers playing loud music and making a nuisance of themselves. No law enforcement or beach patrol. Just a free for all. A family resort no more.

Fabulous destination!!! A gem at the Jersey shore. Visit was off season, it was peaceful and relaxing.

The beach is a true Jersey gem and beautiful. I saw people of all ages, lots of gorgeous photo spots and plenty of room to relax. The view is breathtaking and relaxing.

Ocean City, New Jersey (not to be confused with Ocean City Maryland) is true to the slogan of "America's Family Resort". I have been coming to this beach since I was a kid and now I have two teenagers. There's a lot to be said about a "dry" town where finding alcohol is scarce. I appreciate the non-party, quiet atmosphere unlike other beach towns. If you want a bit more nightlife, head to the boardwalk. If you’re looking for a quite stroll, head the opposite direction. Overall, it’s a great place if you’re looking for some R&R and safe enough for the kids to roam around.

Not a place I would want to comeback to. I wanted to explore the area because I find hotels in the North cleaner than in the South but not a fun thing when you’re told to pay in order to access a public beach, what ?

I grew up coming to OCNJ and this year’s visit left me in shock. After paying for beach tags, the beach was covered in litter and people were not following the rules posted for the beach (smoking, dogs on the beach, tents/canopies, TRASH) while the authorities did nothing. I hope this turns around fast...no one wants to see OCNJ turn into Ocean City Maryland!

We love OCNJ, especially in the off season.
The beaches are clean and well maintained. The boardwalk is lively and regularly frequented by musicians and performers (jugglers, etc). Just like anywhere, you will see what you choose to see. If you are looking for things to critique, you will find them. If you're looking to make memories with people you love, OCNJ will have a special place in your heart. We're in OCNJ every month, and every season has something different to offer.

Ocean city beach is not like it used to be. Unbelievably crowded and not maintained clean. We stayed for 3 days 2 blocks away and had to go back to hotel to use bathroom.

This was our second summer at OCNJ and we love this beach. Entries are nice but could be even better if it was more accessible for wheelchair users. Lifeguards are amazing, sand is clean, no trash on the beach and I think we only saw 5 seagulls the entire week. We'll be back soon!!

This is the worst vacation site for families! Not one restaurant would accommodate a family of 12. We waited for 2 hours to have to wait an additional 30 minutes to be seated for dinner. I wouldn’t recommend this town for my worst enemy.

I have only missed going to OC, NJ one summer since 1989 and sorely missed my time there. I love going to the south end of the island for the solitude. OC is great for a bike ride too, either on the Boardwalk or on the back roads.

We’ve been coming to OCNJ for over 50 years and it’s still the same soothing and relaxing place for me to “get away from it all” grind of life. Everyone should come and visit this wonderful place.

The beach is fairly large yet quite crowded. It is difficult to find a place to set down without someone blocking your view of the ocean.
The section of the beach closest to the boardwalk has deep sand which makes it difficult to pull a cart unless it has oversized tires. The section of the beach closer to the water is flatter and has compacted sand. When the tide is low, there is quite a bit of exposed beach available.
We were near the 9th Street section of the beach. There are really large rocks near this section which adds to the charm of the beach.
Although we were not very close to the water, we could hear the surf breaking.
The water is dark green and looks clean.

Ocean City Beach is a clean beach with a wide, fun boardwalk. Nearly everything (arcades, amusement, restaurants, ice cream, booths, shopping) is open and it's a really charming area. The amusements are expensive ($5 per person for a short ride) but fine for all ages. Arcades are cheap compared to similar arcades at Point Pleasant Beach and other Jersey Shore beaches.
One problem is that no one is enforcing the COVID-19 mask rules within the amusement sections. Masks are mandatory in those sections, but masks are often pulled down, off to the side, sometimes off and staff members let that happen. Go at your own risk.
On the boardwalk, where masks are not mandatory, I would say it's about 75% to 25%, non-mask vs. mask, which we as a family were comfortable with because we were not only outside, but properly spaced. Within the amusement sections, people were a little more tightly fit and of course, waiting in line for rides.

October is the time to come, no crowds, beautiful beach. Free parking a plus:-).
Beach fire and rescue are heros!

Small beach and even smaller swimming area. Water is loaded with shells, so i would recommend water shoes, especially for children. The lifeguards keep everyone confined to a small swimming area, which defeats the purpose of social distancing.
Swifts chair and umbrella rental were polite and reasonable prices.
Ok for a quick trip to the shore but Wildwood beaches are much better.

We stayed near 15th street and the beach but have to walk almost three blocks to swim b/c our beach is designated for surfing only. I have rarely ever seen anyone surf but maybe one or two and not everyday and they don't have to buy beachtags. So, hundreds of people have to crowd together on the 14th and 13th street beach. You wind up sitting practically on top of people and then get hit with boards when you go into the water b/c it is so crowded. The beach from 15th to 17th , included in between streets like Chelsea are no swim beaches and then there is fishing from 18th to 20th. no lifeguard and no swimming. Why is it Wildwood can afford to have guards at all streets and it's free??

Ocean City (NJ) Beaches are well-maintained and located all along the Boardwalk. The majority of beaches are opened along the Boardwalk and you are allowed to swim between the Green Flags on each beach. These beaches are life guarded. Several beaches are designated beaches for surf boarding, etc. A beach tag can be purchased for $5 per day or I believe weekly tags can be purchased at a discount.
Water is fairly cold. I looks somewhat hazy off in the distance over the ocean.
Security is monitored over the Boardwalk and observing the beach areas. Bring your chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc and enjoy your day at the beach. There are plenty of shops that will sell these to you on the Boardwalk as well. There are a few small changing houses or but more likely to find a stall in a restroom but they are designated which ones you can and can't change in.
The beach was very busy during the week so I am sure it is very busy on weekends. Be prepared for a busy beach.
Parking is available near the Boardwalk for a fee, street parking with meters or park a few blocks away and park for free along the street.
Bottom Line: Awesome Family Beach! Very happy with my first visit.

This is a really huge beach were kids have so much fun. There are life guards everywhere and many people enjoying both the ocean and the sun. The water is on the cold side, but clear with waves. If you are not aware of New Jersey's ways of doing, plan a lot of quarters for pay rolls. The cash only stops seem a habit!
OCNJ is our go to beach resort for five generations now. The perfect place for families. The beaches are clean the town is very family-friendly and lots of activities for the kiddies! A winner.
