The sunrise walks on the pier are absolutely breathtaking. It’s also extremely fun to watch people fishing from the pier

We walked out on a day with delightful weather. Still there were surfers even though the air temperature was in the 60's. Enjoyed seeing the pelicans and sea gulls. If you go plan to have something to eat at Ruby's

The walk along the beach in Oceanside is just wonderful but walk up the ramp or the stairs to get up on the pier. Walk to the end for a meal at Ruby’s Diner or head out there to feel you are out over the ocean.

Nice beach with sand, unlike the cliffs in Carlsbad down the road. Really nice thing is that the coaster is right there so don't even have to drink and drive (or park). Parking is a pay lot right on the beach next to the pier, believe it was $5.

Make time to go for a stroll on the Pier and when you get to the end and look West just Dream Away.
There's a Ruby's at the end so if you get thirsty or hungry step inside and watch the sunset.
Enjoy your stroll and dreaming!

I've lived here my whole life, we have a beautiful view of our Oceanside Pier. Our community here is welcoming and we show off all our different cultures. This is our home and I love living here.

Nice beach and not to crowded. Love the pier and little shops. Nice to spend the whole day there. A+A+

It’s ok. Nothing to rant & rave about but fun to people watch. Great spot to watch the surfers from. Very family friendly

I love to watch the people who fish the piers; they are an interesting bunch. My wife and I had a 50/50 ice cream shake at Ruby’s that was tooo good. The cool breeze and fresh air were perfect medicine after a week of work in the city. I love piers!!

We went here for the day and had a fun time exploring. We checked out all the beaches in the area and this one was great. Not so packed during the week either which was a plus

I had read a lot of reviews and thought we would give it a try. We had a great walk, saw some interesting birds and bought some souvenirs at the gift shop. It's worth visiting.

We have walked along the pier quite a few times. There are lots of people fishing and a great view of the surfers. There is not much to do on the pier except walk and take photos.

Great for sunset, fishing and watching the surfers. They did a great job of making the pier handicap accessible and family friendly. There is a small shop halfway down the pier to buy small items, post cards, etc. Parking lots are surrounding the area for a $5 fee you can park all day (until 12am.)

It was fun to walk the pier and see the birds, the view and the people fishing. It's a hike to the end of the pier, but it's an easy walk. There's a souvenir shop in the middle that sells cold drinks. There's also a restaurant all the way at the end of the pier. Everyone seemed to be having a nice time on a beautiful day.

This pier is wide enough for everyone to walk on at the same time, I didn't seem to notice the others but I noticed the sound of the waves and the smell of the ocean air and my husbands hand in mine......Sweet Memory

The Oceanside Pier is a lovely place to go for a stroll, to fish and even to eat. During the weekend evenings however the pier is really busy. Lots of local people fishing so you may have to pack your patients.

Walked with my kids from our hotel to the end of the pier, hungry for breakfast at Ruby's...only to discover that Ruby's closed! It was a very long, disappointing and hungry back back down the pier and back to our hotel.

Wonderful view of the shoreline and beach waves. Worth the short walk to see beaches and surfing, and fishing on the pier.
Great place for a walk after having a meal.

While walking around Oceanside, we spotted the pier and decided to take the long walk to the end. Very nice views and there is a little burger joint at the far end. The pier is not that unique, but a nice little side trip while walking around.
Lots of pelicans near fisherman waiting to steal bait from the bucket.

The day was overcast, but the Pier and the Beach were wonderful! We walked the Pier and some of the Beach. Very clean, food stops for drinks or eats. It was very relaxing watching the surfers. Unfortunately, this was a short visit but I will be back again for a longer visit.

We went to the pier in Oceanside last Thanksgiving. As always it was fun with lots of pictures taken of the surfers.

It is a pier, with not much else, but it is a nice walk to see the ocean, pelicans, and just enjoy being outside.
My favorite, a sign in front of 3 pelicans that read, "we are wild animals, we bite stupid people"

This is a 1/4 mile long wood pier that is well maintained. Bathrooms are on the pier, clean and maintained. Bait station for fishing and it looks like fishing pole rental and some items you can buy to go with it, plus souveniers and sand toys. If you can walk, this pier requires no stairs, most anyone can access it. Plenty of benches.
From a view standpoint, there are surfers on the water sun up to sunset that you can watch from the pier (or elsewhere. There is also a lot of fishing going on--didn't people catching, but, ... a couple cleaning stations were there too, with families very present.
There is a Ruby's Diner at the very end of the pier, with breakfast, lunch or dinner dining inside or out. Prices are ok and something for everybody. It was perfectly acceptable but ambiance is off for a waterfront place not well utilized.
Beach is down below, you need stairs mostly to reach that, and other dining or beverage facilities on the beach. You can probably access the beach easier, a bit further down, but directly from the pier, there are some sets of stairs to climb, maybe 50 steps, that are tiered so you can stop if you need too. Strollers? No on the stairs. Pier? Yes. It's all family, individual and kid friendly.
I was on the pier when it opened and in the evening, and in the daytime, and felt safe. It was still busy though summer vacations are behind us and the big tourist season.
VISIT here if you get a chance, it is beautiful and worth it right there. You will not be disappointed.
BUT there were homeless people there, though no one bothered us and it wasn't excessive. And I felt the pier could be cleaner than it was. Seabirds and all, it's hard to stay up on I imagine. Overall the pier area and this beach area are clean and well patrolled.

Long pier with many people fishing. Did t see many fish being caught. But the seagulls, pidgins, and pelicans were confident more would be landed. Great view of the beach and coast.

We must have hit at an optimal time because it wasn't crowded and fairly easy to walk around. There are not a lot of shops and restaurants, so if you are looking for that, this probably isn't the place for you. I guess we were on the lower level of the pier (?) because I didn't see near the attractions/events going on that other reviewers have mentioned.

Hey its a nice pier to walk out on but out at the end you're treated to a bunch of fish guts and bait guts everywhere from all the fishermen. While we were out at the end we were treated to the mutilation of a skate that had just been reeled in for more bait. Could have been handled much better but the fisherman seemed to want the attention of cutting it up while alive. Nothing special out here on ths pier !

After visiting relatives in Temecula, we drove straight to Oceanside Pier and arrived around 9:30 PM. It was dark, a little underlit, but there was something real and local about the whole scene.
This wasn’t a tourist-heavy pier like Santa Monica. This one felt like it belonged to the community—locals with their rods, bait, and folding chairs lining both sides, casting into the ocean like it was their nightly ritual. You could feel the vibe, a quiet rhythm of people who do this often.
We did hear part of the pier was closed off due to a recent fire at the end, but it still felt safe to walk and explore. A few visitors wandered through like us, curious and soaking in the coastal night air. 🌊
If you’re expecting a flashy boardwalk, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking to witness something real and rooted—this one’s for you.

Great place to visit. Oceanside still has the old California vibe with many newer Restuarants and pubs! Oceanside beach is easy to get to and has some of the best surfing in socal. Friendly town and safe for all.

Every time we’re in Oceanside we visit the pier. The views are outstanding & the air is so fresh! Walking the long wooden pier never gets old. We generally see dolphins & we enjoy watching the people fishing. They have a small store about halfway where you can rent fishing poles & buy bait. This is a very beautiful & enjoyable place.

Nice walk going out on the pier. Locals do lots of fishing here. There's a restaurant out at the very end. Good place to watch the surfers and, obviously, the sunset. If the clouds are high and wispy, stay a while after the sun drops out of view and the sky will light up with pinks and oranges.

A lovely LONG pier - less visually intimidating (for those who hate to look down) with its diagonally placed boards. The fresh air, watching the surfers from above, watching the people fishing with all skill levels, all the birds - Ruby's Diner is at the end - The view makes it a worthwhile stop. We walked the pier every day we were there - Don't miss it!!!

This is a great place to visit, especially during the summer. Oceanside Pier is a special place... you see so many different people just having a great time taking pictures, watching the sunset, or families talking a stroll to Ruby's at the end of the pier.
This pier may not be the most glamorous places in CA, but it has something special...the views are just amazing and watching the sunset is a must.
It may get a little windy and chilli in the evening, so bring a sweater if you get cold easily!

We stop at this pier when we visit Oceanside. We walk to the pier from our hotel and down the beach to enjoy ourselves. Then we always finish it off with dinner down the street.

Met family for a visit, having an awesome lunch nearby, then walking the pier and enjoying the beautiful weather and awesome views of the Pacific Ocean and shoreline!

Dirty and gross, fish guts all over, rude people, busy on weekends. Nice views though. Just know what to expect.

Just a stroll on this pier is fine, but tourists can fish free also. Tackle rentals are cheap, and right on the pier.

Lots of folks fishing off of the pier. Great for watching the surfers, but nothing else to do on the pier itself as the restaurant had closed due to COVID.

Once again coming to CA from Iowa we are looking for a great beach and Oceanside does not disappoint. Friendly families, great waves and for us a chance to hear Switchfoot again a local band. Not sure a day could be any better.

Loved walking out the pier and watching the surfers. Good place to watch sunsets also. Lots of nearby parking options.

This pier seems to be very popular for the sunset photography. When it was about to sunset plenty of photographers appeared, waiting and hoping for nice colours. And I have to admit it really looked fabulous at this time. But not only then. It was an exciting experience to walk there, watching surfers, fishermen or birds. It is very romantic and picturesque place.
There is a gift shop in the middle of the pier and free bath rooms. At the end is a nice restaurant.

I could spend my whole vacation just walking the beach in the surf. The pier offers lots to look at or to do (If you want to rent some fishing poles and try your hand at casting a line!). It's a great place to spend the day!

Easy, enjoyable walk on the pier, where you can observe surfers, people fishing, and then end by dining at Ruby's Restaurant. The views are spectacular day and night.

Simply gorgeous! Very clean. There's fishing on the pier. There is a food stand right below the pier and a few restaurants across the street and over, walking distance.

This was a New Years trip and well worth the journey. The pier was great and the views were breathtaking

A great place to have a long walk, you can see the Pelicans up close watch the surfers and fisherman and lots of characters to wiatch

For some reason, the vibe on this Pier is so casual and laid back. Folks are always happy... fishing, walking, people watching (especially the surfers). Nearby parking is pretty easy to find. Treat yourself to a malt at Ruby's Dinner and just enjoy the view

I enjoy the Ocean and all the activities available All the people we me on the pier were so friendly and the vendors also.
Great time and wonderful memories.

It's definitelty worth a visit. The view is amazing, and parking is close by. I was surprised by how long it was. That's what she said.

Great exercise to walk the pier and people watch
Free to fish pole rentals available . Sometimes windy always good views. Bring binoculars

A good long walk after lunch! Not so many vendors as other piers have, which I appreciate. Rubys at the end for shake

Great spot to enjoy the beach and all that comes along with typical Pier. Oceanside Pier was not very busy which is nice. Few shops located along the pier and typical fishermen, buskers and tourists. Its a nice pier, very high so the views along Oceanside beach are nice. tons of surfers line either side of the pier. The only unfortunate part was that we were there before noon and none of the shops along the beach were open. But very nice and clean pier to enjoy the ocean and sunsets. This is a definite stop along the ocean if you are driving down from LA to San Diego.

One of the longest pier in SoCal with a breathtaking view. At the end of the pier is a restaurant/diner were you can eat, watch nature, or oogle at surfers. Within the pier are places of historical points and shopping. If you are in San Diego visiting, this pier is a must “stop” on your trip.

We live 4 miles from the pier and go there often.
We park at the harbor and hike about 2 miles each way. We’ve seen dolphins, pelicans, egrets and lots of humans surfing.
One of my favorite places in the world.

We stopped in Oceanside for the day was we made our way down the California coast and we were glad we checked this place out. We enjoyed the walk and sitting at the restaurant at the end of the pier. It was relaxing as we enjoyed a beer and the scenery all around us. The weather was nice when we went in August of 2018 and would love to go back whenever we pass through again.

Very long pier and very nice relaxing area across all fishermen. Perfect location for enjoying the amazing California’s sunsets.

Overall, the beach seems best suited for surfers and fishers. If you are a surfer it seems like a great spot... A bad beach for a beach day...lots of rocks and very crowded. Decent people watching on the "Strand" street...Absolutely zero beach restaurants and bar scene, which should tell you a bit about the typical beach goer here, more family oriented for those bringing all their food and drink to the beach. Don't waste your time here if you are on vacation, your time will be better spent in Del Mar, Encinitas, or San Diego

When you are in Oceanside you must go visit the pier. Great people watch...fishing....sunbathing...pelicans and enjoying the beauty of the ocean. Playgrounds for little ones....food and drink trucks...restaurants.... It is great fun for everyone young and old!

Visiting after a seven year break and it's still got the magic! Relaxing walk, ice cream and a stroll to restaurants on Mission Avenue.

Oceanside is on the rise! There’s so much happening and still more to come. The town is a big edgier than most So Cal beach towns and you can get a unique experience specific to Oceanside. Most of the businesses are owned by locals and the original character still stands. I loved the white pier area. I felt like I totally kicked off my summer season being here!

This is a famous pier, nice for a walk, for birds, surfers, and views of both the sea and the beach. It is clean and fun because it is an old-fashioned wooden pier, with people fishing over the side and all. Ruby's restaurant, at the end, is all there is -- nothing outstanding, by any means - kind of a disappointment after Santa Barbara, where one can dine and have drinks at several nice places. There is, however, on attraction that is memorable, and that is the pelican (who has a name!) and hangs out half way out, for visitors and up-close photos.

A beautiful way to spend some time taking in the scenery and ocean air. It's open 24/7/365,excellent fishing and there's Ruby's restaurant at the end of the pier.

It's great for strolling, fishing, watching the surfers, enjoying the ocean vista and the view of the Oceanside skyline and beach. It has a restaurant at the end so you can refresh yourself for a stroll back.

While this pier is good for walking and looking at the ocean and sea birds, it is nothing special. There is a Ruby's Diner at the end but we didn't eat there. There are a lot of piers along the SoCal coast that offer more, but for getting your fill of the ocean and the experience, this one does very nicely.

Open air. Conversations with locals. Seals and sea lions floating about. Gift shop schtick included timely feeding a lazy pelican. Good times.

Love walking on pier. Watching the big waves being ridden by elite surfers. Stop at Ruby's for a shake at end of pier.

My family and I took the long walk from the beginning to the end of the pier. Well maintained, safe and clean

Last Summer when I Visited Oceanside I decided to Visit the Oceanside Pier. It had been 7 Years since I last Visited Oceanside and I was very glad to be there. A Visitor I met that Day took a picture of me with the iconic pier in the background. Sadly a fire broke out at the old Ruby’s restaurant at the end of the pier just recently which severely damaged the iconic building. I hope it gets repaired and restored, but otherwise the Oceanside pier is still a great place to visit although the end of the pier is closed.

The Oside Pier is a gem. We always take our visitors here when they arrive. It never disappoints, no matter what the weather is like.
We usually park at the tiny pay lot at the end of Wisconsin Street, and walk north along the path or on the beach itself if the tide is low, toward the pier. It’s always a great little walk with something new to see every time, thanks to those who get in the ocean no matter what the temp or weather is like, although to be fair, the temps and weather here is nice most of the time!
We had visitors who arrived last weekend on the train (love that our Depot is near our cute downtown area!) and after sitting for a few hours, were thrilled we wanted to take them for a walk after they settled into our guest space.
Off we went to our favorite destination (the pier) and they loved the entire experience. The long walk to the end of the pier is gorgeous, which offers a stunning view of our coastline once you reach the end.
If you want to eat while here, the restaurant at the end (Ruby’s Diner) is affordable and fun too.
But we usually just enjoy the experience and opportunity to be out over the ocean, no boat required! We saw a large shark this last trip, also a frequent sighting among the other fish we sometimes catch glimpses of.
For a FREE and fun experience, this one can’t be beat.

Don't miss the fantastic sunsets. Walk down the street and check out the cottage from Top Gun, go on a thursday and a few streets down is the farmer's market during the day and street fair at night. I go for the philly cheesesteak and dark chocolate dipped bananas. Otherwise just relax on the beach, take a walk and enjoy the vitamin sea.

It was a lovely pier to visit. The wild tourist biting pelican on duty was neat to see and a stop at Ruby's Diner. It was a bit brisk as we did not dress for 60 degrees thinking it California but suggest layering if you go for any weather ;)

We enjoyed our brief visit for the people watching and to see what the fisherman were catching, but other than that and eating at Ruby's at the end of the pier, there's no other activities. Parking nearby was difficult, we got lucky and found a space. I'd recommend going either very early or very late.

A must to see if you are visiting this area! Beautiful beach, amazing pier and a pelican!! Would highly recommend!

Whether there are activities going on around it, or a peaceful evening walk the pier is the perfect place to see the sunset. Be prepared to find parking away from the pier if there are activities going on near the beach. Oceanside is a perfect walking town, so you don’t need to park near.

You can park very nearby and take a walk out this long pier and look back at Oceanside. Oceanside is not a pricey out of reach place like Del Marr and some areas seem a little touristy but from the pier the place is beautiful. You have a very nice view of Harbor Beach and depending on the weather may see surfers. There are many places to eat and on Thursdays the Sunset market 6 blocks away has probably 50 food vendors.

It's a decent spot, but there are other piers in California and even San Diego I much prefer. It's lively and has the option of trying on a wig at the wig shop while waiting for your sushi order around the corner.

Great place to get that California experience the fishing good and the pier baitshop is awesome. Love Oceanside and the Pier!

Anyone coming to Oceanside must come to the pier or else stay home and see it on television. The Strand and the Pier are the major anchors and main attractions to this piece of Pacific Ocean paradise. We had the luxury of spending a week on the Strand and walked the pier path daily, day and night.
On the pier itself, there are limited businesses (well, okay, there are actually two: the bait shop and Ruby's Diner) but still there's so much to see. Sunsets are absolutely amazing, people doing things around the base of the pier are intriguing, beach parks and activities in the environs of the pier are strong and interesting draws, and the pier's neighboring fast food eateries have a charm of their own.
Plan on experiencing the pier at different times of the day, night, and afternoon. It changes.

We took the Coaster train from San Diego. We had an amazing and lovely day! You must go see! Perfect day!

Went here with friends and had a great time. We parked right at the beach and not far to walk to the beach. Lots of places to eat along the walkway near the pier and on the pier. Great playground and just a beautiful place. We really enjoyed the day.

The Oceanside pier provided a fantastic end to a long day of sightseeing in Southern California. Having grown-up being around piers in Southern Florida, I found the Oceanside pier to be a cut above my previous experiences back in the Sunshine State. Wish we were hungry, because a stop at Ruby's would have been a perfect capstone to a perfect day.

We stay in a beach house about Half a mile away. I get up at daybreak I go out to the edge of the water. Then I begin my journey down to the pier. Love it love it! As I’m walking in the water towards the pier I see surfers seagulls, shorebirds. Oh and some people. Once you get on the pier just to let you know it is the longest here in Southern California. I walk to the end. Which is covered with the local fisher men/women. I have become friends with one in particular. Who I was able to take pictures of his shark that he caught at the end of the pier. Not to worry it’s not a shark infested area. Also at the end of the pier is a really cool place to eat day or night rubies. Friendly staff good food. My favorite is cinnamon French toast well done. If you want a sunset view without any obstacles in the way this is a place to come and watch the sun go down.If you’re extremely lucky you might even see a green flash. I have only seen two on the beach.

Situated in oceanside, a North san diego playground with a harbour area, a pier, white sandy beaches and a general happy go lucky outlook. There is a nice promenade along the beach, and all runs parallel to a street full of places to eat, shops and bars. The pier is pretty cool as wooden and 1/3rd of a mile long, where you can overlook surfers, the waves and great views both ways along the beach.

Always a fun visit. Pretty iconic I think. Nice walk. Just watch the stairs going to the beach. Never know what you'll step on.

Did you know the City of Oceanside brings in about 2 million a year in traffic citations alone! Be sure to read those inconspicuous signs around not only the pier, but from my research the entire city, and remember they can cite you more than once for being in the same spot. They have quite the racket going on. Hope the $150 they got from me is worth losing my family's annual summer trips in thousands of dollars to support their economy and TOT the city gets.

We loved walking out on the pier, watching the surfers, beautiful place to see sunset. The restaurant at the end of the pier looked fun, just not what we were looking for that evening.

Such a nice Pier! Fishing, nice walk, bathrooms on the pier, places to sit and a restaurant ($$) at the end to watch the sunset from! Nice place for a cheap romantic dinner at a diner watching the sunset with a burger and shake....

when I am in Oceanside...walking on the Pier daily or more...is a must. this is an old time wooden pier where one can see weather, water, marine life, and the people watching is the best. it doesn't matter if the weather is bad or good, or late or early...the Pier is always changing and ALWAYS interesting. I have seen dolphins, pelicans, whales, swimmers, rowers, surfers galore...it is the best thing about Oceanside!

It's a pier that stretches way out into ocean. Past were the surfers are catching waves. This morning it was mostly people trying to catch something while fishing. I saw seals and dolphins. Lots of shops and places to eat are nearby. I bet sunsets are nice. But I bet it's crowded too. Enjoy.

Great lookout spot to see the ocean and watch for sea life. Be there at sunset for a fantastic view.

Pier is 6 football fields in length. Good view of surfers catching the waves. Also unique siting of some pelicans.

The pier was a very nice walk. Not too touristic and not a lot of people. Suggest this spot for a nice sunset.

Pier was built about 1930, and is an old fishing pier. Only 1 tourist shop and one restaurant on the 1500+ foot long pier. Quant and non-touristy, we enjoyed it.
A large pelican was hanging out near tourist shop. Snapped his 30” bill at me!
Lovely stroll out and back.

Went to Oceanside to explore a bit and find film locations for the tv show Animal Kingdom on TNT. Started at the pier, one of the longest piers on the West Coast .. just an awesome place to go sit for lunch at Ruby's or watch the many many surfers doing their thing! Fabulous place, I love Oceanside!!!!

beautiful oceanside near San Diego. a lot of people fishing there and it was crowded. easy parking and enjoy the ocean views...

I spent most of my days walking the beach and the pier. It is really beautiful. I loved watching the surfers and the sail boats. The food is pretty spendy but typical. I would suggest packing lots of water and a lunch. Spend the day taking in the sights from the pier.

We had a nice time. The parking was easier that we thought, we lucked out and got a great place for a few dollars. We walked the pier and the beach. Played there for long time. Felt safe. The restroom was run down and not clean.

Beautiful place day or night. Definitely worth the visit, I preferred to walk later at night and it was still busy

We walked the pier in the evening to observe the setting sun. Great place to see the surfers and people watch.

Ramp leading down to waters edge full of tourists and townies. From the railing, you can watch the surfers catch a wave or talk to pet pelican down near souvenir shop.

The pier in Oceanside is OK but I like the one in IB better...this one does have Ruby's at the end...

My first trip to Oceanside, the pier is definitely not to be missed. Beautiful views of the land and sea, spotted a seal lion out in the water. Fun to watch the surfers (there were so many!)

rather its my birthday or one of my kids birthday we can never go wrong visiting our friends down at this pier . Always welcoming ,always TONS of fun !!! Shopping, eating, date night and family fun .. Cant wait to go back in a few weeks !

Never a boring minute at this pier. It's such a beautiful and clean pier, with lots of surfers and friendly venders. I've never experienced panhandlers or beggers here. It's a wonderful walk down this long pier, and always clean beach area.

Took a nice drive to walk the pier and let dog walk on the beach, pets are not allowed on the wooden part of the pier, but what a view, very nice beach, great place to hang out, cheers

We spent about half the day here, saw live music near the pier, such a variety of birds, and I really enjoyed all the military aircraft so close to the beach! There was so much room on the beach for having so many people, and so many unique vendors as well. Definitely recommend visiting.
As far as the pier itself, it was pretty dirty in some places because the fishermen fishing right off the pier are able to clean the fish there, which is great but it could be cleaned more if at all. I wouldn't let your kiddos slide their hands along the railings (fish guts and lots of bird poop). I was also appalled at the condition of the one womens restroom in the middle of walking on the pier. Apologies for the description but as soon as you open the door, the 2 stalls in there had wall to wall poop smeared EVERYWHERE! Not sure how often they get cleaned but should be in better condition.
The bathrooms and showers on the beach are in great condition, lifeguards posts in many locations, and just a beautiful beach

The Oceanside pier is fun to take a leisurely walk and enjoy the activities. You can take you time, nobody is in a rush. enjoy the different birds and their activities, check out all the fishing activity from lttle folks learning to fish and the ""professional" fishermen and all their gear. Ruby's restaurant is located at the end of the pier. It is a good place to watch the water activities below and also observe the shoreline. If you want, go down one level and walk along the beach area. Parking is on the street level by paying for a pass by the hour or use the parking meeters on the street. You can also parked below the per and it is a pass system. It is a great place to enjoy a good suuny day

What a beautiful view and good exercise to walk to the end....of course when you get to the end there is Ruby’s Diner. Then you have that walk back to make you feel less guilty. Nice way to spend the day!

The sunsets here are breathtaking. I could sit here everyday. There’s such a variety of activities going on all around the pier and i love to watch it all.

If you are in Oceanside, come for a walk. Park right by the beach or on the street above. Watching people fish, and just a nice stroll down to Ruby’s and back. Walk on the beach, and stand in the ocean when the waves come in under the bright California sun.

Nice Glafd area for scooting along by the beach. And then the girls enjoyed the beachside playground. Then some fantastic tacos at the stand right under the Pier

Long pier and lots of small food huts. Beach is nice with life guards. Pretty much the same as you roam among the beaches of Southern California.

We love coming here and walking the pier. Ruby's on the Pier is always crowded and has a wait time but there is a nice walk to and from the beach as well as watching the surfers and fishers. My husband has caught nice fish there and the pier offers a bait shop half way up. The bathrooms aren't the nicest but seeing it's over the water AND there is a lot of people coming and going they are well kept. While there is plenty of paid parking it does fill up so be prepared to drive around and walk to the beach. There is a nice boardwalk for walking/bicycling and the beach is safe and good for familise. This beach offers fire pits and the boardwalk goes down to the harbor.

The Oceanside Pier was rebuilt in the 1980's as a result of storm damage. It's a very nice pear, a nice walk over the waves. You can watch surfers, pelicans (do not touch!) and fishermen. There is a Ruby's Restaurant at the far end of the pier. There are also restrooms. My only caution is that people fishing tend to clean their fish on any flat surface, instead of on the few counter type surfaces that are provided. So be very careful where you lean on the top railings!

Fun place to visit. Lots of people on this first Saturday night in April. People fishing, taking pictures, avoiding the pelicans, people watching, people just walking. I enjoyed the walk. I would guess that the walk is about 3/4 mile. There are inclines at the start of the pier.

You can walk out on the pier, there is fishing from the pier. Sunsets are fantastic from the pier. Gets a bit crowded at times, but worth the walk out and back.

Oceanside is one of the last “old-school” beach/surf towns left in California. With an eclectic mix of surfers, skateboarders, tourists and locals you can’t miss by stopping by the pier! A stones throw away from the famous house from Top Gun, cool bars and restaurants and even the Surf museum make the pier a great central location to start your sightseeing. Stand just above surfers catching a wave or watch the pelicans fly past during the day is a blast. The best sight is the pier at night. Too many people only see it during the day and miss one of the most beautiful pictures at night. Catch a side view with the lights reflecting off of the wet sand and water!
Breathtaking!!

Dropped my son in law off with his family at marina to go sailing( my vertigo kept me from that adventure) but my daughter and I ventured to the pier. Along the way we saw and heard some Sea Lions and a very brave harbour(or other species) seal.
The pier itself was a MUST DO! Gorgeous! A huge pelican was posing by the mini tackle shop, on the pier. Also we saw beach acrobats. The aroma of food from Ruby’s got the taste buds active. Lots of people and many fishing from the pier. So so glad we came

We visited Oceanside the first week of November and took a walk to the end of the pier. Lots of people fishing, even at night!

A lovely walk to the end of the pier with benches along the way to rest. As elderly folks, one recovering from back surgery, that's important. We watched surfers, pelicans, people fishing, all the things you'd see along a long pier. The breeze was refreshing on a hot day. I recommend a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen. There were a lot of young mothers with kiddos in strollers. The restaurant at the end, Ruby's, has tasty food in the mid-price range. There was parking along the street when we went. School was back in session so the beach was much less crowded.

Cool breeze on a hot day. Best way to get your walk in if it is hot on shore. Always something to look at.

Stayed at the Springhill Suites on N Myers St. Great location and facility; close to the beach and Oceanside pier. The only drawbacks (or local atmosphere) are the open air bar next door with live music (possibly only during happy hour) and the round the clock noise from the Mission Street railroad crossing for regional, interstate, and freight trains..
Enjoyed visiting the surfing museum, a few blocks from the hotel and the Mission San Luis Rey.

They are tearing out the parking lots to put in a resort. As a result, there is very limited street parking available as the parking lot on the beach fills up early. Most convenient street parking is metered. They don't warn you that the beach lot is full so you have a long slow drive to the south to get out of the traffic of all the cars that couldn't find a parking space. We used to go there but will find a new beach.

Had a wonderful time at the beach, traveling by metro train had to walk to pier approximately 10 minutes or less. At the end of the pier there’s a restaurant. You can also fish there. Walking distance restaurants. Close to the pier selling popcorn, nachos, ice cream, seafood, funnel cakes, overall had a good time.

My wife and I had a great afternoon stroll along the Oceanside Pier yesterday, after lunch at 333 Pacific Steak & Seafood, perfect weather, perfect location, Perfect Day! 😊

We went to the pier on two ocassions and loved it. It was fun watching the surfers from behind!!! and there is a very nice Restaurant at the end. We ended up with some really nice photos taken from on top of the pier and also from below (both when the tide is out and in).

Always enjoy my rides to the pier and harbor. Take a walk on the pier, watch the surfers, visit with the pelicans from a distance!

Why would you NOT take a relaxing gorgeous peaceful fun walk on the pier? Then do the same on the beach! Repeat until your smile won't go away.

I don't know why this pier isn't more featured in photographs. It's beautiful. It's one of the longest piers on the west coast of the US. There a Ruby's restaurant and great views of the coastline to greet those who stroll to the end.

The pier is very popular and seemed permanently busy
You get a lovely cooling breeze and great views of the beach and town
A nice walk on a warm day

We spent much of our stay walking on this pier watching the surfers, fisherman, kids and birds. Very relaxing.

The Oceanside Pier is the star of the Pacific Coast and free! Take a long walk out, to watch the surfers, fisherman, and to have an unobstructed view of the beautiful city of Oceanside and the coast.

Pier is really an interesting site. The views are great! We watched people fishing and the surfers are fun to watch. We even saw a seal! Resturant at the end was a 50's theme. My sister ordered the shrimp and it looked awesome!! I enjoyed a nice cold beer! Restrooms halfway out were discusting but other than that a decent experience.

The beach is well kept with plenty of soft sand. Sunset's are gorgeous. Ruby's Diner has a fun blast from the past 50's type diner.

A great place to walk, watch surfers, and meet pelicans. Took our time to just slow down and smell the ocean air.

The Pier is absolutely beautiful! The view is stunning. We were able to walk down to the pier during breaks from class. I left Oceanside feeling rejuvenated and rested.

This is your typical pier. Nothing too exciting. If you choose to fish from here, there are "fish cleaning stations" which are basically a cutting board attached to the railing.

I really wish this area wasn't being inundated with high rises and more buildings. Can't it just be enough that this is a beautiful spot without people trying to capitalize on it? It really just takes away from the beauty of it all. Defintely one of my favorite spots in Oceanside but it's about to become impentrable.

Always good to stretch your legs. Get your ocean breeze on and go to the beach at the same time. Parking available for a small price across the street. Small vendors underneath the pier. You can walk up and down the boulevard in either direction. Just a great place to enjoy a day. Bring sun screen, water and a towel.

The Oceanside Pier is a must-see when visiting. It is a fun walk to the end with lots to look at from fisherman, surfers and the local pelicans who pose for close up photos. There are food vendors at the beach just under the pier and Ruby’s restaurant on the end. My only wish is for a little touristy t-shirt/ souvenir shop right there. I enjoy going to the pier every time I visit Oceanside!

We had a nice time walking the pier watching the surfers and then took a stroll down the beach. Gathered seashells by the seashore. Water was warm, waves were great. A really nice beach!

The view of the pier is so nice. We spent a lot of time sitting on the benches watching the surfers. Very relaxing and beautiful views.

A good way to get a walk in the ocean air. We've never actually tried Ruby's Diner at the far end even though we'll walk all the way to and around it regularly. We enjoy watching the fishermen talking advantage of the licence free fishing off the pier. Someone caught a swordfish as tall as themselves on one occasion when we were strolling along the pier. We also enjoy watching the surfers taking advantage of the pier break on both sides of the pier. Feeding the Pelicans seems to be giving them bad habits but it's hard not to appreciate seeing them close up.

It’s a public beach in California so you know it is going to be crowded. However the atmosphere is fun and kids have a great time. The waves are great for body surfing. To the left of the pier is really rocky so go to the right of the pier where the sand is much nicer.

This was an awesome vacation. The ocean, the pier, the people. They all have a story if you take the time. I am now retired and have decided to take the time.
Enjoy your day at the Oceanside Pier

So worth the visit!! Not only are the views beautiful, the walk out is so relaxing as you watch the fisherman catch small mackerel, and enjoy the surfers catching waves. Extra special is if you have time to eat at the restaurant out at the end of the pier, a fun 50’s style restaurant. Ask to be seated upstairs outside. Enjoy!!

Really everything in Cali is gorgeous but getting to walk out on that pier. I can sit there all day!

I really love taking my family to walk down the pier get to sneeze so much there is a good restaurant good people and lots of fishing

It’s not very pretty, as half of it is covered in fencing, with no sign of current activity or signs saying what is being done, but it’s an easy walk past the Bait Shop to the end where Ruby’s closed, but a new restaurant is Coming Soon.
Lots of surfers to watch while you walk. Plenty of parking on a gray April morning. Nearby street meters are $1.50/hr (coins only), further away is free street parking

We have been to Santa Monica, Venice Beach piers and others but this is the longest. There is a restaurant at the end but I did not see any ratings for it on this app. You can rent fishing gear on the pier so lots of people fishing. Not catching much. There are some parking places on the beach near the pier but not sure of the cost. Nice visit.

Beautiful ocean views. A nice walk. We saw dolphins swim by and loved watching the surfers. Cute tshirt shack on the pier.

we spent the day exploring "O" as the locals call it- this pier is the oldest and longest (1492 ft) - its a leisurely stroll and keep turning around for the amazing views of the beachfront- there is a great restaurant at the end called Rubys- with the most wonderful milkshakes! great watching the fishermen & surfers -

The pier is a great place to see the beach, and surfers! One thing I say could be improved upon is the lack of parking. The beaches appeared clean. I enjoyed my time at this pier.

Very beautiful view. Great place to just take in the ocean breeze. Ruby’s at the end of the pier was great as well. Well worth the visit. The sunset from this point is phenomenal.

Ruby’s Diner has burned down. It is so sad to see the ruins at the end of Oceanside Pier. Otherwise, the trip there was lovely!

Great place to stroll before or after a meal. Observe the fishermen hoping for bites. Surfers waiting for that perfect breaking wave. This very long pier has a bait shop and rental in the midsection. A amphitheater appears just off the side when starting your walk. Only walking allowed on pier. No skateboarding or bikes. Retro diner at end of pier for sit down views.

We travel a couple of times a year to southern California to be on or near the ocean. We like to stay in Carlsbad, CA or in Oceanside close to the Pier. Ruby's restaurant at the end of the pier is a great place for eating great food and enjoying the ocean view. Sometimes you get lucky and see dolphins, sharks and other sea creatures. The walk to the end of the pier and back is a good way to work up a great appetite and then work off the extra weight on the way back to the beach.

We took a walk down the pier at night, the sound of the waves crashing was beautiful. The pathway down the pier is not very even so watch your step i almost tripped a few times. There is a lil souvenir shop on the pier where you can buy lil trinkets or snacks. I had to use the bathroom on the pier and i wish i didn’t, it smelt soo bad in there, the floor was wet and it was very much a don’t inhale and get out as fast as you can experience. I think it would have been better at night because it seemed like most of the ppl their were either fishing or homeless. There was a street performer juggling and a group of guys making music and singing even though clearly drunk.

The pier is a popular place. Sunsets are epic with the clouds are just right. There are some dicey characters here and there, so be aware of this, but definitely walk out to the end once if you’re able to. Nice pier for sure.

Great place to visit
Surfing looks busy
Waves look big
Great cafes and stores near by
Pier is awesome under neath
Great city

A very long pier. If surf is 'up' you'll have a great vantage point to watch the locals curl ... and local's trying to catch fish ... watch out for the pelican perch midway out ... it's not a pet!

My wife and I have been holidaying in Oceanside for the past weeks.
We have developed a routine of taking a long stroll each morning to include the oceanside pier. Lots to see and always a cool breeze.
Surfers on each side and fishers trying for the big one all along the pier.
A restaurant at the end but we did not try it.
Just a pleasant place for a stroll where everyone seems in good spirits!

What a beautiful place to visit!! Beach was clean, water was perfect. Can’t beat the views. Just beautiful all around.

Right now they are doing repairs to the pier so it's not as glorious as it once was. That and all the rain and storms. The restaurant on the pier is closed but I don't know if it's because of the repairs or it closed and never reopened from 2020.
But it's still a great place to vist and walk on to see the surfers and the sea birds and to view the sunset...when the rain stops.

What a great Pier to visit in Southern California 's Lovely Oceanside. Great views of the ocean .surfers and beautiful sunsets. Nice walk to the end there is Ruby's Diner. Can't wait to go back

In the mid and late 90's I was a Marine on Camp Pen. This area has been so built up with 3 multi story hotel/condo/timeshare buildings. It seems to have made the summers in this area unbearable. The weekends are going to be the worst in this area but in most southern Cali beach towns all weekends are crowded. So plan accordingly. Parking??? The parking in Oceanside by the pier is horrendous, you won't find much. There is a multi story parking garage on Cleveland St. Use it, the price as of my comments is $5 for the day until 0200am, In and out privileges, you pay at a kiosk by the elevators and put in your license plate numbers. If you have mobility issues then avoid this area on weekends in the summer. There are tons of food options around the pier area. Staying at one of the hotels by the Pier be prepared to pay a high daily parking fee.
I was just in Oceanside for a Tahitian dance competition Aug. 5th.

Lots of opportunites to walk here with ample metered parking. People like to fish on the long pier. Take a stroll along it to a restaurant at the end or just watch the surfers enjoy the water.

The Oceanside wooden pier is a romantic and beautiful walk after a wonderful dinner! Well lit and plenty of views- the ocean swells, the sun setting, moon rising behind you, and the shoreline glowing with activity! Wear sturdy shoes (no high heels- you will fall in the spaces between the pier boards) or solid base shoes. Or flip flops- it is SoCal!
Lots of locals fish off the sides of the pier with their families and surfers ride until the last bit of sunlight! It can get cool at night, bring a light sweater or wrap or just have an excuse to cuddle up!

The pier just out into the ocean on an ole fashioned board walk. Open 24/7, offers free fishing—no license. A vendor has poles and all the things needed. A good adventure from shore to deep water. Restaurant at end of pier can be busy at times.

I went to several beaches while in the San Diego area. This one is clean and comfortable. The pier is long and friendly.

great place to watch surfers, fisherman, etc Unfortunately the restaurant at the end of the pier closed.

This is one the best thing to do when you are in Oceanside. No one should miss this place, if you are visiting Oceanside. This is one of the longest pier, may be the longest pier on the west cost. You can have a pleasant to the end of pier looking at fishermen, surfers, seagulls, may be some pelicans. At the end of the pier, there is restaurant for casual dining.

20 years later and I found myself back in Oceanside visiting my daughter and son in law. We walked from the house to the pier and just soaked it in. Hopefully I can do it again soon.

We visited Oceanside in early October ‘19 and got lucky because the tides weren’t very high and this resulted in near perfect reflection of the sky on the beach. You can easily spend few hours here.
Parking:
$3, safe and right by the beach.
Food:
If you like sea food then check out “Tin Fish”. Prices seemed affordable and the quality and taste was top notch. Go for Salmon! There also a diner on the pier if you prefer that.
Restrooms:
On the right side if you are walking (away) from/ at the end of the pier.

Good view and accessibility to beach. There were homeless people pretending to be fishing on the pier but had signs on their backpack asking for money. At the end of the pier you could tell they had been sleeping on the pier.

Quite the sights, water is great and showers to spray off the sand + clean washrooms that are given attention throughout the day.

The Oceanside Pier is a nice place to enjoy a leisurely walk. The pier is pretty long. Along the way you can stop to watch the surfers catching some waves and local fisherman fishing off the pier. You can grab a snack about halfway down the pier, or go all the way to Ruby’s for a burger or a shake. At the end of the pier on the back side of Ruby’s, there are usually many more fisherman. There is a strong chance that you may be able to see dolphins jumping out of the water. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Two thumbs up for sure with the Oceanside Pier.

This pier is unique in its length, apparently you can see dolphins if you walk all the way to the end, which we did not. We did, however, see various birds including pelicans, and lots of people fishing and catching various size fish. There is a nice restaurant at the very end.

My time at the pier was amazing. The sights, the beach, the activities, and the people made the experience totally awesome.

We enjoyed the walk out here to see the ocean. There isn't much to see other than the water. However, if there are surfers and fishermen, then there is something to see!
Bring a jacket because the wind here is as one would expect, fairly breezy coming off the water.

It seems like most piers are all the same - this one was nice in that it wasn't very crowded and while we were there, offered us a chance to stroll along without being bumped into by other visitors. It's also a great place to watch the sunset.

Great pier to walk along, take in some beautiful views of the Ocean and Oceanside Beach. There is also a famous Pelican landing place to get a closeup look at a Pelican! They are not always around, so you have to be lucky.
There is a diner at the end of the pier which is worth a stop for some food or a drink!

We love strolling on the Oceanside Pier. It's fun to watch the surfers and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We really do miss the Ruby's Diner restaurant we enjoyed every summer. Hopefully a new restaurant will open at the end of the Pier sometime soon!!

This is such a fun pier to take a stroll on.People fishing, a small shop, great views of the surfers and Oceanside. At the very end of the pier is Ruby's! We ran in and had a chocolate and banana shake. It's well maintained and worth a visit.

This is a half mile pier that extends out into the mighty pacific with gorgeous views!!
There are people fishing and even a pelican or two that are hanging out on the railing !!
Exhilarating !!!

We stop by the pier to do a little walk and enjoy the sunset on the water the walk was nice and the breeze was really cool and half way throw the pier you’ll see all the fishing man are everywhere and the smell start to send you back to the first of the pier where you start from
It was couple good surfers on the side of the pier make it little more fun for us to watch them having fun on their surfing 🏄♂️

This is by far the best place to get that perfect sunset picture. Palm trees in background and also maybe a surfer catching a wave. Take a jacket as you may encounter some ocean breezes!!!

Great place to view the ocean whether you are alone, a couple or with a group. There is so much to see. There are so many stops along pier to photograph.

The Oceanside Pier is an historic wooden pier with great views of both the ocean and town. Both the pier and connecting oceanfront trail are great for a relaxing walk at the beach.

What my title means is that this is a cool spot to say you have been to, but not much reason to go back. We climbed the steep ramp from the lower beach level. There should be a hand rail but the rail is several inches in diameter, which you can lean on, but not use it for much else. It’s a fair walk out to,Ruby’s diner. We went there, but with a 35 minute wait we chose to move on to an open air patio at the Oceanside Broiler. We did enjoy watching the surfers down below.

This turned out to be a. Very nice side trip, especially for the grandchildren. We got a chance to watch local fishermen catch a few fish and were even lucky enough to see a seal. It’s like a long walk out into the ocean without getting wet.

Breathe in the fresh Pacific Ocean air on the Oceanside Pier. People-watch the surfers or fellow pier-walkers. I like to read a book on a bench then walk all the way to the end & back. It's a refreshing & beautiful stroll.

Good for a walk, for fishing, watching surfers, getting fresh air, and if you need a bite or drink or bait, you can get that too!

We enjoyed walking the pier, watching the sunset, surfers, pelicans and eating a quick bite at Ruby's. Some homeless/fighting people at the start of the pier, but the overall experience was positive.

Just the length of this pier and the opportunity to watch the surfers trying to catch a wave make this a must-experience stop. It’s not the nicest ocean pier, but there are tons of eating places and an outdoor concert pavilion adjacent.

Great place to people watch as you wind your way to Ruby's for lunch. Great views, leisure walk, talking to fishermen, and watching the catch of the day among young boys and girls who are enjoying a good day with their fathers. Arrive at Ruby's, a look back to get a view of what you've seen as you walk through the doors to enjoy a nice lunch overlooking the ocean......wonderous!

We went around sunset. It was incredible. There is such a wide variety of people walking around. Lots of people fishing with fish being caught. We also liked the view of the waves and houses. There were surfers also. Cute shop in the middle with things to buy and fishing gear to rent. We liked it.

We visited the pier a few days after Christmas. Although it was chilly, it was bustling with activity. We really enjoyed this lovely attraction.

Plenty of parking..Nice pier. Not much shopping but lots of areas for the kids to play. Plus a playground right on the beach. Food Vendors and a Restaurant on the beach

We have had record rains here in Southern California over the past few weeks. Today was a very nice, sunny day and perfect for a walk. I headed up Pacific Street in Oceanside and enjoyed the weather and great views from the street. Several places along the way afford great beach views. As I approached the pier, I extended my walk and went part way on it. There is a amphitheater below the pier near Pacific street. It looks like it would be a nice concert venue. The pier was surprisingly not very crowded and the weather perfect. It looks like there is a restaurant on the end of the pier which may force a return visit for us. If you are in the area and enjoying the outdoors this is well worth the stop!

The pier offers beautiful views along with a very reasonably priced bait/snack shop and a restaurant at the end of the pier.

We had tried to visit here last summer and spent a half hour trying to find a parking spot. And both foot and vehicle traffic was bumper to butt. So we gave up. Easy access on a Sunday January afternoon. Clean, an abundance of good eats beneath, and great sunsets. California beachiness at its best!

Should do it although it’s not extremely unique. Great place to watch surfers. Restaurant at the end of the pier could be better.

The pier is interesting to walk out and look into the ocean. On our visit we were lucky enough to have a seal swimming underneath. Pier is dotted with people fishing and there are numerous types of birds. Walking around the walkways surrounding the pier was also interesting.

This pier has the usual restaurants, boats for hire, and crowds. If you have trouble finding a parking space, which you will, there is a lot thru a narrow tunnel just east of the pier which is large and usually uncrowded and free. Easy to walk back to the pier area.

Fabulous pier with stunning views and a must see place when visiting Oceanside. Popular place for off the pier fishing, with a Tackle shop and a Diner on the pier.

Excellent walk to the end of the pier. Shopping along the way. Pelicans sit on the railings and love their picture taken.

The sunset views are spectacular; this is when the pier is highlighted in an incredible glow of orange. During the day, the pier is the same old tired deja vu. It still is a pleasant stroll but not all that great. Ruby's Diner is gone but the signage tantalizes us with suggestions of things to come. Surfers still ride the waves along side the pier and the view from the pier back to land is always a treat.

Nice pier, well kept. Lots of fishermen and surfers trying to catch a wave. Highly recommend a walk to the end of the pier for a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner at Ruby’s. Great 40’s-50’s music, great atmosphere.

This pier has some food options available and was a nice place to walk along the beach.walk to the end of the pier and see some dolphins and watch the surfers!

Great little walk to ease away a meal or get a different prospective of Oceanside
Traditional wooden pier with a couple of shops and a diner at the end for refreshments
When the surfs up get a great view of the talent on show from up close its amazing

We overlooked this little pier as we stayed in a Wyndham . The beach and the pier are really quaint, nice and quiet and not too busy. I suspect the area will get busy in the summer season..a great beach and pier to chill and get some sunshine.

We had a lovely day at the beach. Parking is easy in the lot right across the street from the entrance to the pier. $5 per day and when we left we gave out parking pass to the next person coming in. Pay it forward! We walked down the pier. Saw pelicans on the railing. Watched the surfers and the fisherman. Walked along the beach, stopped to play frisbee in the sand. Sat at a picnic table to eat the lunch we brought with us. Plenty of clean public restrooms.

Stopped in here in the afternoon to walk the pier and beach. It was nice, cold and windy that day, but overall a good place to visit. There is a Ruby’s Diner at the end of the pier and a bathroom halfway down.

The pier is long with lots of fishing activity but for us the highlight was watching surfers, from beginners just getting upright to experts out to practice their tricks. The area around the pier is worth a wander but the pier itself is a great way to laze away a couple of hours.

One weekend my fiancé and I decided to take a trip to the Oceanside pier as we really have an affinity for piers and thought it was really cool. The pier is relatively high above the water. If I had to estimate, I’d say it’s about 100ft above sea level. It also extends pretty far out into the water compared to other piers we’ve seen, probably close to a half mile from tip to tip. The view was quite breathtaking at the end of the pier and it was quite calming just standing out there watching the ocean waves come into the shore. I’m not yet sure if it’s acceptable to fish here but if it is legal, it would be a really nice spot to cast your line. We’d definitely recommend visiting this landmark.

We enjoyed a morning walk out on the longest wooden pier on the Pacific coast.
You get to see local fishermen fishing from the pier as well as dozens of surfers trying to catch the swells. Beautiful views of the coastline along Oceanside.

Def worth a trip. Walk the Pier to see the sunset. There are a lot of people fishing there tho, just have to be careful. Head down to the beach after.

Walk the long pier just to do it. Watch the surfers on both sides, and people fishing off the edge. Half-way down you'll see both a fishing convenience store, but also some pelicans hanging out on the railing. Snap a photo with them without getting bitten by standing too close! Then walk the rest of the pier to the restaurant, or go behind it to take in the majesty of the Pacific ocean. Very nice pier on a wide and welcoming beach!

Parking lot on the beach side is so crowded, it is hard to get a space even at 3 dollars per hour !! Must have been 30,000 people at the beach pier area on May 4, 2019.. Oceanside takes in maybe 3 million dollars in parking fees per year, in my opinion, but cannot fix a horrible rest room situation. the mens toilet next to the grandstand area is in a horrible state of disrepair. no doors on the dirty toilets, massive wet floors , A hand washing sink with water coming out about 1 half inch to wash your hands, ...this toilet has not been updated for probably 35 years !!!! THE WOOD SUPPORT ENTERING THE REST ROOM IS DISINTERGRATING AT THE BOTTOM WITH 5 INCHES OF MOLDY WOOD FALLING APART, AGAIN AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE MAIN MENS REST ROOM. OCEANSIDE GET DOWN AND REMODEL OR FIX THE MAIN RESTROOMS 100 FEET FROM THE MAIN BEACH AREA !!!!!! i CANNOT DESCRIBE THE FILTH AND UN-CLEANLYNESS OF THAT STRUCTURE BRINGING MY CHILDREN INTO THAT FILTH.

We had stayed at the Wyndham resorts across from the Oceanside pier. Was very convient and absolutely amazing

It is a great place to take a walk and it is free to visit!! There is a great diner at the end and you can rent fishing gear on the pier!!

I come to the Oceanside Pier every time I visit my daughter who lives in Vista, Ca. We walk the Pier and eat at our favorite restaurant 'Ruby's' which is at the very end of the pier. I love the pier not only for the amazing view of the ocean and beach but for the ambiance created by the people fishing along the pier. The pelicans and other birds that sit along the railing and watch the people walk by. There is a shop I love that sells all things beautiful coming from the beach and water surroundings. It's fun yet peaceful. You can watch the dedicated surfers all year round hitting the waves. It's a great place to visit by people of all ages.

Great place for family fun, not only by the ocean, but viewing and being under the pier is a fun experience also.

We enjoyed just walking our on the pier, watching the surfers, a sea lion and just people watching. The weather was beautiful and people on the pier seemed polite and respectful of each other.

This is a nice walks down a long and beautiful pier. It’s fun to watch the surfers and the fishermen. I haven’t tired Ruby’s but it looks fun.

Nice walk to watch the surfers try and catch waves and maybe a whale or two if you're lucky.
The boardwalk is well maintained and the railings aren't splinter ridden.

I really enjoyed visiting this beach! There is a rock jetty on the one side and it was a great place to explore the tide pools and collect sea shells. The sand here is black with flecks of gold in it and there were plenty of places to sit on the beach and enjoy it! The pier itself is maybe good for taking photos of, but not necessarily worth walking down. There are a lot of people fishing off the pier and I was worried we were just in their way. There used to be a restaurant on the end of the pier, but unfortunately there was a fire that took care of it...I think it would be worth visiting once they repair/replace it! Parking is not ample; we found a pay lot for $5 for the day a few blocks up the hill from the beach, so the walk wasn't too bad, but don't expect to find anything closer.

Progress and gentrification are changing the face of O'side and that is not really a bad thing; it's just nice that the pier is pretty much timeless and impervious to those demands. Still holding court on the pier are the same old bait shop, weathered wooden boards of an indeterminate age, Ruby's 50's diner at the end of the pier, and all those dedicated fishermen looking to hook a big one (or anything) for dinner.
Coastal views of the beachfront, looming construction, and surfer activity make this a great place to spend some time when in Oceanside.

Enjoyed walking to the end of this pier. Watched many surfers, kayaks and fishermen in the water. Restrooms are about halfway out and there is a small coffee shop and a souvenir store as well as places to get fishing stuff. One fisherman had hooked a juvenile great white shark at the end of the pier. Hope the surfers stay aware! Pier feels very sturdy and good railings along both sides. Definitely worth a stroll and take in the beautiful ocean.

We loved walking along the beachfront here and enjoyed a walk along the pier. There’s a nice restaurant at the end. You can watch the fishermen and the surfers as you stroll along.

Beautiful beaches
Lots of parks , great location to make a stop while traveling warm weather even though beside the ocean

Relaxing Walk to watch the surfers and look back at the town...or just head out to the 50's style Amercian Cafe at the end of the Pier for lunch or a Milk Shake

No visit to the beach is complete without a stroll to the end of the Oceanside Pier where fishermen labor for their catch under beach umbrellas; novice musicians share their talent; the mid -pier shack man plies you with souvenirs; resident pelicans sit smugly scorning your inability to soar the blue Pacific skies above; and cooling ice-cream and beverages reward you at the very tip of the pier. The Oceanside Pier is a great place from which to watch the many dolphins skimming alongside surfer buddies riding the waves...just for the joy of it! It will be even more joyful if you wear scuffles, sandals, etc. because this old wooden pier has some king sized splinters waiting for any and all bare feet.

Very peaceful and romantic. This is a magical pier. It was the place I took my wife to save our marriage. It worked cause we came back. In love and humbled by God's greatness

If you like hanging out on the pier I think you will really love visiting this one. This is a real historic place and a neat little shop is halfway down the pier. People fishing all around, and a nice time can be had catching a bite to eat at Ruby's diner. Not the best food, but the location is everything. Consider sitting outside and having a burger and taking in the views of the ocean. I have found a retreat that I will return to each year in California and it is definitely Oceanside Pier and the Strand. Absolutely love spending a few days around town

The weather was great that makes the beach so relaxing. Love the water and ocean breeze. It wasn’t crowded so much space to play in the sand, boogie boarding and strolling. Definitely will be back.

We visited the pier in early evening......tons of people, still. This place is great for "people watching." And, of course, that includes surfers to watch. The highlight, for us, was a man fishing for sardines, using only a gold hook as "bait." He brought up 3-5 sardines with just about every cast.

I was impressed with the lay out of the area around the pier and also the beautiful underpass nearby that leads to eateries and shops in Oceanside.

Stayed in El Cajon to see our grandson. Had s day to visit Oceanside Pier. Drove the highway to pier then drove back on the coast highesy. What great towns along the way back. Had lunch at Tim Pan ant the pier. Great lunch. Pier was fun to walk see the people fishing snd surfers. What s great day

We enjoy the pier in the evenings to watch the sunset. People are always friendly and it’s fun to watch all the fishermen.

The view along the pier was so amazing and surreal. My sisters and I felt very relaxed when we returned to our hotel after walking the pier.

This is a well built and maintained pier.mixture of single people and family stroling a long. A lot of surfers in the ocean and friendly fishermen. Nice restaurant in the end of the pier.

Excellent views, great parking (across the street); visit The Tin Fish for the best fish & chips around (used to be a Macdonald's?!?) End of the Pier is a Ruby's --right over the water.

We love walking the pier in the mornings as things start opening up and the surfers are riding the waves. It’s a beautiful structure and the views of our California coastline are spectacular. Lots of parking nearby.

On a windy November day, we enjoyed a delightful walk on the Oceanside Pier. Parking was easy and the view was spectacular. From the end of the pier - out on the water - the view of the beach and Oceanside was picture postcard stunning!

What a visually stunning structure. Almost directly across from the Seabird Resort, where we stayed. During the day, the pier and surrounding area is busy with pedestrian traffic.
Night time the lighting is impressive. With reflections on the water as well. A lot to see and do along the boardwalk as well.
We didn't rate it higher because... We could not walk the pier with our dog, who by the way was welcomed with open arms at the Seabird Resort.
We did hear from some locals about trying to make both the pier and the beach dog friendly. We were told that it has to do with the surfers. Not sure why. I was a surfer backs in the day at Zuma and Santa Monica and dogs were everywhere.

Great pier to walk along. With the added bonus of great views along the coast and all the hustle and bustle of the beach life to stand and watch, the day we visited was a surfing competition and we enjoyed leaning against the rail in the fresh sea air and sunshine, watching the event unfold.

This was a long pier extending nicely into the ocean and a fun little spot in the middle for a little snack but way too many people fishing and made it trashy. Also, I assume there is a rod limit but some people there had 5 and 6 rods in the water for 2 people. Could be much cleaner but still a great walk and vibe.

We took the Coaster from Carlsbad to the pier(easy peasy).
Once we arrived, the view was AWESOME! We walked the entire pier, watched the surfers and sat at one of the benches. Where have you been all my life? LOL! 😂
We plan on going back in a couple of days. If you are nit driving, don’t worry, Lyft drives are mucho plenty!
Go. You won’t be disappointed!

Great place to visit. Great fishing (when the fish are biting lol) very relaxing and great food from Rubys at the end of the pier. Love all the surfers and different birds.

Wonderful long walk out to restaurant, fishermen along entire walk, view surfers from the top, small shop for fishing and hats, etc in middle, great area.

Really great place to walk on a sunny day. We've walked it numerous times & it's always a great experience. Ruby's restaurant at the end of the pier is a 50s' style diner -good for lunch or coffee.

At the end of the pier is a nice Ruby’s diner. Plenty of hopeful fisherman line both sides in wait of a fortuitous catch (we saw 3 fish caught during our 10 minute stroll). The crowd is friendly and it was a nice break from the beach.

We were driving the coast north from San Diego and stumbled on this pier. Needing a break from the car we decided to walk it! We paid for meter parking (cheaper than the pay lot) and headed over to the pier. It was an easy walk with great views of the ocean and coastline. We met a volunteer on the pier who gave us some fun facts about the pier...it is the longest wooden pier over the ocean on the west coast! He was very nice and informative. There are public bathrooms about maybe a quarter of the way out... Overall this was worth the stop to stretch our legs.

The Oceanside Pier is nothing spectacular. It is a nice place to take a walk out into the ocean and people watch. I found it to be a good place to keep the Grandkids together and give me a break from trying to track them down when they felt a bit too energetic. A good place to relax!

Great place to walk, fish, view wildlife, socialize and enjoy the coastline. Nice eateries in the area....especially 333 Pacific. Beautiful lighting at night.

Food was ok Pier walk prey cool. Great views all walks of life and sunset pretty cool. If you like to layout or run out the beach it's pretty safe.

The boardwalk can be a pleasant stroll atop of the ocean, with waves crashing beneath you, while you watch the surfers fly through the air and water. Continue on your walk beachside to enjoy all the activities there. Grab a bite to eat or a drink to savor the beauty that surrounds you.

Nice pier with a Ruby's Restaurant on the end. Fishing of course and a small shop on the pier. Construction going on during this visit but still a nice walk.

pier allows you to walk above the beach at street level and view the wide sandy beach, waves, surfers, seals and shore birds. Pier is quite old and has wooden deck. A lot of temporary repairs are going on. Work is slow and trucks drive in area of pedestrians. Restaurant is at end of pier with great view.
Price is right!

There was a lot of construction in the area which took away from the experience. The pier was quaint but nothing like I expected. There were people behind Ruby’s who appeared to be camping there. All in all, it was okay.

Take a moment & enjoy this peacefulness.
Food nearby, great waves for surfing- lots of people surfing - gorgeous view. Such a beautiful place.

We walked the pier. Great leisurely walk. Viewed the many amateur fisherman and kid trying to land a catch. Great place to eat at the end of the pier for a snack or meal. What weather, need to bottle it up and take back to my home in humid Florida
My hotel the Wyndham was right across the street. Walked the strand also and local streets, great time.

We went out on a Friday night, people were fishing (you don’t need a fishing license on the pier) families and friends were at it, there are poles to rent, a bait shop selling all kinds of stuff to make it a successful fishing night! People were also like the wife and me, just strolling down the pier! There is a diner at end of the pier called Ruby’s where you can get burgers, shakes and other good food! Be sure to check it out!

We stayed on North strand for 7 days and walked this pier at least once a day. The scenery is great in any weather. Best free entertainment we can recall on any vacation. Walk at any pace beginning from either a steep incline from beach or gentle ramp from cliff side at main entrance, to reach pier boardwalk. Perhaps a bit bumpy for wheel chair or rollator walker, but manageable for my husband who walks with cane. Great place to watch surfers, fisherman, resident pelican and an egret that drop by frequently to the bait shop. There are free restroom facilities 1/2 way down the pier, a small gift shop with beverages. Multiple benches along the pier length. sit down or take away dining at either end of the pier.

Excellent place to be with kids. Toddlers will have fun in the play area by the beach.
Good food options. Nice pier. Will definitely be back to spend more time.

The Oceanside Pier has a good view and a fun activity to walk up and down, but it’s become pretty run down. Most of the seating and overlooks and sides are taken up by people fishing. One fishermen can take have 5-20 rods set up and they take up space.
It smells of old bait and all the side rails are so dirty and disgusting you don’t want to touch or lean on them.
There are a lots of homeless people walking around and will camp out there!
Cops don’t care about anything crazy happening, they only regulate the tourists!
It used to be my favorite spot in Oceanside, but not anymore!! We used to walk it every morning or evening, but now we only visit once.

Redevelopment in downtown Oceanside is bringing more tourism.
Parking will be difficult, metered parking.

It was a Friday afternoon and my friend and I decided to walk the Oceanside pier. I have done this many times in the past during the daytime as my students have warned me about the dangers at night. Well we were walking the pier and everyone seemed friendly and nice. Then we got forward the end and saw that a woman fishing was screaming at the guy next to her as his line was drifting near her line. Mind you she was fishing in between his two poles. She was swearing loud enough for the surfers below to hear with no regard for the children walking around. Next thing her “group” decided to aggressively approach the original guy who was just fishing. Then other members of her “group” came over to intervene. The guy and his two friends did the smart thing and then left. He was upset because this was his birthday celebration. He then returned his two rods to the tackle shop and left. Meanwhile, the two cop vehicles were parked and never moved. With all the tax revenues from the new hotels why can’t they patrol the pier and get rid of this low life’s. They give Oceanside a bad rap and will eventually scare the tourists away.

We enjoyed this so much we dropped back by before flying out! It's so fun to just stand on the pier and watch the surfers, to dodge the high waves! Must do this!!

Nice to go for a walk on. Great views. A little crowded at times. Watch surfers. Dogs not allowed on pier, but people still bring them. Watched as 2 dogs almost started fighting.

There were plenty of items to rent here. Only thing the pier doesn't have is family food on the pier. Great exercise! Bike rides and a whole lot if family fun. Was clean and frequently monitored by lifeguards for people too close to danger zones and beach patrol.
Will visit again!

We were able to stand and watch surfers, talk to people fishing and just enjoy a beautiful stroll. Plenty of places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. Also it’s an easy walk from the Oceanside Farmers Market if you go Thursday morning or evening. Lots of free parking until 2:00.

Walked out to Ruby's diner for breakfast. Very good food for a reasonable price. Will visit again on my next visit.

It was a wonderful place to go walk with all our teenage nephews and our younger kids . We enjoyed the walk in the pier. We also used the bike rental service, it was &38 dlls for the double and $28 for the single that fit 3 adults and 2 kids . It’s for a one hour rental. Very well worth it.

Amazing pier with Ruby's Diner at the end. Resident pelicans may grace you with a visit by the shops mid-pier. Walk it at sunset!

we come back every year to revisit one of the best things we loved about living in oceanside! best sunsets!

I saw a video on YouTube of a sunset here. It was filmed in 4K called Oceanside California Beach Pier in San Diego County filmed 3 years ago. It was so stunning that I had to visit this place and we did. Two weeks before our vacation, Ruby's diner at the end of the pier (it is 1 mile long) caught fire. They are on the mend and it is reopening the day after we returned home. I still loved visiting. It was in walking distance of our hotel. The atmosphere is laid back. Families, young teens, surfers, bike riders, skating. They had a few places to get a good meal or snack. At the end of the pier people whale and dolphin watch (we found this out from the locals). Everyone was so friendly. The town comes to life down here at sunset. Please bring your camera. The better the lens, the better the photos. I still have gorgeous photos on my cell phone.

The Oceanside Pier is a very nice place to take a walk and enjoy the views. It is the longest pier in California and is a great place to view the Southern California coastline both to the north and to the south. It is also a great place to view the beach, the surf, the surfers and the many fishermen and fisherwomen on the pier. It has a nice nostalgic feel and the area near the pier is undergoing a really great renaissance and is becoming much more upscale. Thus the pier is taking its place as the centerpiece of what will be one of California's premier coastal towns.

The pier in Oceanside is plain and doesn't have a ton of crap to suck you in. It is nice to be able to walk and just enjoy the views of the ocean. A ton of people fish off this pier, more than I have seen at other piers. We really loved watching the fisherman pull up their catches. What a fun place. Very clean as well.

Super nice beach with great views, restaurants and shopping all around. Nice hotels in the area too. Wyndham Oceanside and Holiday Inn both great places to stay.

Go to the Harbor Beach. Much nicer and cleaner. Pier is not overwhelmed by transients but enough to make anyone uneasy. Most are candid about getting money for another drink or a fix. DO NOT give them money. There are plenty of nearby resources they can turn to for food, lodging and other assistance. Don’t take any crap either. Asking for money is okay. Aggressive panhandling is not. OPD normally has a patrol and life guards can also provide immediate assistance.

We strolled the Oceanside pier this morning. There were surfers on both sides and a wonderful mix of people. The view was incredible. The only drawback was they were working on it, so there were trucks and workers.

Even in January this was a wonderful place to visit and take in the views of the ocean, beach, surfers, people fishing and OMG! The sunsets. We went there every day of our stay and no two days were ever the same.

This is a must walk to the end of the pier and back. You can not even say you have been to Oceanside if you don't walk the pier in my opinion. Beautiful views of the Ocean and Beaches with Surfers. Everyone on the pier was smiling and happy. I loved it!

Walked the prier everyday I was there, people watched and crazy guys trying to fish, great view. Several restaurants on the site we-tried one the wife said the fish was bad and smelled bad, refused to eat the lunch, the service was very very slow.

Oceanside has an iconic pier which is surrounded by beautiful beach and fun restaurants. Great family weekend day destination.

Very nice pier provides a great view along the coast and of the surfers nearby. The pier was in great shape and has ample room for people to walk and fish from.

This is a high long fishing and walking pier. One of the best I've seen anywhere. A must visit when in the area. Lots of cheap pay parking all over.

Loved the walk. Lots to see. Perfect view of surfers. Liked Roxie’s at end of pier. Interesting seeing what the fishermen were doing.

The pier was so relaxing just to stroll and enjoy the ocean views and people. The 50's Diner at the end of the pier is adorable and the food is excellent and reasonable priced.

A walk along this California landmark, an 800 metre pier out into the blue Pacific, is one of the great bargains of this exciting coast. This is an opportunity for interesting people watching as well as photographing the intriguing coastline and skyline of this intriguing city.

This is a beautiful old pier and well wort a visit if you’re in the area I believe one of the oldest remaining wooden piers in California. Frequented by young and old alike and a great place to watch the local surfers catch a wave.

It is an awesome place to visit in Oceanside. Busy, full of energy and happy people, it is surprising how many families go there to fish and how busy it gets, great place to spend timee with family. Amazing sunset view.

The night we were here it was quite cool. We spent most of our time people watching until the sunset and then it monopolized most of our time. Other than all the electric bikes running around that sometimes were in places they shouldn't have been it was nothing negative going on here. I'm sure most of the people were tourist and worth more into seeing the Sun set then doing anything else. Lots of places around to get snacks or rent a electric scooter or bike.

Honestly, the Oceanside Pier and surrounding area is highly underrated! I've lived here for 10+ years and it's so exciting to see gentrification... new restaurants, reinvigorated homes, cool places to hang out... The beach is great and family friendly. The strand is perfect for exercise year round!

We were in Oceanside for the night in order to go to a funeral the next morning. The hotel we stayed at suggested we take a walk on the pier after we checked in. We did and were so glad. It was a beautiful evening, calm, mild breeze and pleasant temperature. The water was reflective of the moonlight and as we walked we could feel the tension leaving our bodies. We were able to walk and talk about our heavy thoughts and when we returned to the hotel we felt some relief and slept well.
We look forward to returning to the pier were ourway hearts had a chance to start the healing process.

This wonderful pier and surrounding areas afford you a beautiful and very long pier offering breathtaking views of Oceanside in San Diego! What a place for a stroll with the kids watching folks surf, fish from off the pier, and romantically hold hands as they walk along marveling at the great Pacific... At the end of the pier is the understated Ruby's Diner, for some good 'ol American comfort food. Palm trees sway, waves crash, and snacks beckon from the pieside shops! Enjoy!

At almost 2000 feet, this pier is among the longest on the west coast. Rain or shine, the vistas are great. Easy to get to and near tons of places for tourists and locals to shop, this landmark is worth going to and experiencing. At the western end is a Ruby's Diner.
Also next to it is an amphitheatre, and typically an array of street vendors. To learn more about the pier and nearby sites to visit, go to visitoceanside.org
Active fun vibe
Beautiful setting, water, a surf competition, lots of people having fun on a Sunday night. Good restaurants all over, parking can be difficult.
