You could drive right past it but don't miss this charming olde towne shopping center on the south shore of Kauai. It has as nostalgic and rustic flair that the other nearby tourist malls lack. There is great dining to be found and interesting local art shops to explore.

By Mark42139 |

We found this town ti be very cute, and worth a walk through. There a number of stores that are worth perusing.

By Doug M |

Historic town not yet completely overcome by tourism, despite proximity to fancy Poipu places. Check out Sueoka Snack Shop.

By jwredlabel |

WE visited this town 2 years ago and loved it. Now, a mainland company has bought out the properties, are building a large shopping area, and the charm is gone. Several shops we loved are gone as it is going modern chasing the big tourist bucks. What a disappointment.

By aleblanc10 |

This is neat area which you can get to through the tunnel of trees. It is a historic shopping area. The shops are good for browsing for gifts and t-shirts, jewelry etc. and a grocery store. There is also a couple of restaurants to grab pizza, a meal or ice cream.

By Melanie C |

Love the eating places and shops! Such a cute little town! Prices at the sops are pretty reasonable.

By Kimberley42 |

I have fond memories of Old Koloa Town from a decade ago. I was so pleased to see that it has not changed that much. We enjoyed time walking through the Emporium and checking out the restaurants and shops. Explored the Crystal Harmonics store and history display. Some tasty food options. Got Thai food at a food truck and ate it in the old sugar mill park.

By angelic5 |

Stopped at a shop to buy a cap, found all the little stores delightful. There is also a little market if you need snacks.

By TedNSusie |

Not overwhelming, and a good mix of local goods. Only one or two chain shops. And a couple of great places for a quiet lunch.

By Jessica H |

Lots of lovely little shops, each with a personality of their own. Great place for souvenirs, icecream, art, island candles & soaps. There is even a post office across the street to make shipping you unique treasures easier to get back home. I have gone back several times & just love the atmosphere warm & welcoming

By pf2319 |

Stopped here for lunch on our first day. Enjoyed walking around the shops and talking to the shop keepers. Found it to be much more enjoyable than Hanapepe.

By MissS4 |

Everyone should visit Old Koloa Town - I think that it shows me what old Hawaii once was. There are some cute little shops located there also.

By Slip213 |

You have to stop here. It's got a bunch of nice shops and you can easily spend a couple hours here. Good food there too.

By Dominomarie2 |

We rented a car and made Koloa a stop. Cute, old town feel, not just on Main Street but also around the corners.. worth to stop and get out of the car!

By Martin P |

Nice old town to spend some time if you are nearby. They have some stores selling all the tourist stuff and also some restaurants

Fun to walk through if you are nearby!

By Karin K |

This is a nice little strip of shops that hold Hawaiian souvenirs. Some are more elegant than others. There is a good Italian restaurant in town; however, I can't think of the name of it right now. There is also a great shave ice stand at the end of the shops! I stopped there twice. A local grocery store even had a hog's head in the meat section! Easy place to visit if you are staying in Poipu.

By KatBugs |

A cute town for a walk about. Street parking is available. Quaint shops and restaurants are located in old buildings. We enjoyed the well stocked wine shop which offered gourmet foods, gifts, accessories and and an impressive wine inventory for Kauai. The candle/soap shop smelled wonderful and offered numerous local buying opportunities. The fish shop had fresh local fare.

By morganhillewe |

We fell in love with this town. Visited it many times during our stay. Loved the little bakery/coffee shop and the italian restaurant.

By jazz40 |

We stopped to see this part of the island. What a great historical place. It has a small museum and great shops for souvenirs. We did not eat there but did have ice cream. Highly recommend, only takes an hour or so.

By bearecub |

Located on the sunny southern side of the island, this one-time sugarcane town is a quaint little town with several shops and restaurants. It has a relaxed atmosphere and makes for an enjoyable stroll

By G Irvin |

Neat shops, Great eats, Cool vibe! My wife and I had a great time walking OKT. It doesn't take long to see it all but there are some neat nooks and crannies to be found. Don't pass up Kauai Gourmet Nuts!

By laineema |

If you are ever looking to shop for grocery store staples for a reasonable price, this is the place to go. Sueoka's Grocery is right in the town, and a block away from another full-service supermarket, both of which we found to be invaluable when stocking up our vacation rental kitchen. Not to mention, Old Koloa Town has great places to eat if you want to get a bite, and interesting shops with lots merchandise and souvenirs. The town bears a resemblance to storefronts in the old American west.

By Manderj |

This is a great place for shopping with a variety of shops. Crazy shirts always a great place to buy t-shirts. Lovely art shop. Love the Island Soap and candle works. The fragrant aromas from this shop are divine The Emporium is a great shop with souvenirs and such friendly and helpful staff. Great place to get gifts for friends and family. some great gift and clothing shops along with places to eat. So pretty at night as it is lit with pretty lights giving this place a lovely atmosphere. There is also a pharmacy as well as a wine and fresh fish store. Great place to spend some time and have lunch or dinner.

By Jennifer S |

Old Koloa town is a quaint strip of shops that pay homage to the area's Sugar Cane plantation beginnings. There are several cute touristy shops on the strip offering local items and vacations gifts. I wouldn't recommend scheduling too much time here, but worth a quick visit if you're in the area.

By Annette T |

This is the kind of place I love to visit. It has the character of old time Hawaii with many local folks and culture. There is a cute museum and places to eat, sit and relax without feeling like you are in a tourist trap.

By William B |

The huts show the culture of Hawaiian people, but little is done to document and explain that culture to their guests. The landscaping is also spectacular and kept up. We pulled in while kayaking, which might be the only way to enter.

By John F |

I come from New Zealand, and rural New Zealand is full of 'old towns' almost exactly like this. So, it felt like home in some ways. Of course it is 'home' in the tourist sense as well, so prices are not quite what you would find in rural New Zealand (or rural USA for that matter). But it is a soft kind of 'old', setting into the landscape as if it has been here for a long time. Which, of course, it has. The contrast between this and the coastal resorts, all of which have the same colour, the same shape and the same smell, is stark, and while the resorts are comfortable, this fits like a favourite time of clothing.

By GloriasTravels |

It is really pretty small and quaint. The shops were unique, but uninteresting to us. The little museum on the back side of the shops is worth a look.

By 196LindaC |

Nice place to stroll and shop and eat, stroll some more and eat and shop!! Lots of history and artifacts in the area.

By timcgunn |

Obviously you go for the experience, shopping in an environment that isn't the mall in you home city. Routine and eclectic items to bring home that say, uniquely Hawaiian as well as specifically Kauai(no shortage of Rooster memorabilia).
The food is ...... from the food trucks(highly recommended) to more established eateries (bring cash, many of the really good ones don't accept cards).

By Monica R |

You must go. We’ve been here in Kauai three summers in a row and we love it. There is so much to do in Koloa... the shops and restaurants are fantastic! In the last two weeks, we’ve been down here probably 10 times. If you do your research, you will find the gems. It’s a must-see to explore. Plus, just FYI, if you visit any of the south side beaches, you’re going to drive through Koloa, likely through the fabulous tree tunnel. You’ve got to drive through the tree tunnel! We always play the Jurassic Park theme song when we drive through this area. It’s just a family thing for us, and the kids love it.

By bthe1ur |

Passed through day and stopped looking for something half way decent and healthy...went into the deli...the only one there, can't remember the name...including tax $13 and change...a bit on the high side....BUT excellent...lots of turkey, cheese lots of veggies of all types...it hit the spot...AND the girls working there were nice!

By Clevs |

Very small town with some great places to eat and small shops to wonder through. Don't miss the other half of town to the left though.

By sabers86 |

You have everything from a 2 grocery stores to nice little shops and eating places, gas station, pleanty of local jewelry, large variety of shops that sell gifts from Kauai, ice cream, Post Office, gallery, speciality shops, wonderful local nuts you can sample. A lot of fun.

By John Sowell |

Koloa is an old sugar factory town and much of the towns fortunes went away when the cane operations closed. Still, there's many small shops and places to eat. You can also find the old sugar mill.

By aaammgb |

Old Koloa town is a very cute little historic town near Poipu. We have been to the town many times over the years as we stay in Poipu and go there at least one to two times each visit to the island. If you want surf shops, candles, etc. it is a great location to visit to pick up some things.

By OregonExplorers4 |

This town has a lovely collection of shops, all in a row, along the main road. There are wonderful eateries, and a wide variety of shops to explore and browse.

Parking can be found alongside the road, or in the designated shop parking lot. (Be careful of private parking areas.)

Our family each found wonderful gifts made by local craftspeople to bring home to friends and family (and for ourselves.).

By bobsboy_texas |

Take a journey into the past as you visit this old plantation town and take in the boutiques, restaurants, and restored old buildings.

By WarrenFretwell |

Small town Hawaii on display at Old Koloa Town. It's just a short stretch of village shops and restaurants. This is essentially a one gas station and one grocery store town. BTW, the store, Big Save, makes great plate lunches, sandwiches and salads at the deli counter!

My wife and I ate and shopped here several times during our week in Poipu. Good place to wander through local stores, go to the Post Office, grab a sandwich and a beer or a full dinner.

Laid back and calm. No one in a hurry here.

One review I saw said a large shopping area was being built. No evidence of that when I visited in October. Old Koloa Town retains its quaint reputation.

Note for history buffs: Koloa was the location of Hawaii's first sugar plantation.

By DougM3 |

Koloa is quirky and a bit weird. I love it. Not much to do and not many shops, but it has character.

By Jimgreenleaf2010 |

Lovely old town feel to shops and shaved ice stands. I got a great vintage Hawaiian shirt for less than half price.

By Rosemary F |

Great little town to wander through. Great food places, shops, and grocery stores. Photo opts a plenty as well.

By Ted P |

Lots to see and buy here, but bring a thick wallet or heavy duty credit card, as prices here are pretty high compared to other shops on the island.

By Dtrottier2 |

We were looking for the fish market for a nice dinner on the bbq and happen to stroll in the old town. Not very big, cute shopping, did not buy anything but was enjoyable to walk. The Big save store is in town so enjoy this town.

By fabell760 |

A variety of shops and food. Easy walk, lots of free parking and stuff for every budget. There is a good grocery store too

By Colin Archibald |

Not only are there some great shopping opportunities here, but the area is full of history. This was a hub of the sugar industry in Kauai. in the middle of the main street there is a courtyard with the Koloa History center in it. There are many displays that tell the history of the area not only as a sugarcane producing area, but also the third largest Whaling Town in the Hawaiian Islands.

By Beverly S |

Nice varied selection of shops - check out Pohaku Ts, which has silk screened T shirts made in Kauai. Good place for shave ice. Friendly shopkeepers.

By Eric B |

Very charming town full of interesting stores and eateries. We had a great dinner and enjoyed walking around plus my favorite dive shop, Fathom 5 Divers, is located just off the main street.

By 206TravelGuy |

Cute little group of shops and places to eat. Located in a great spot on the way to or from Poipu, or heading east or west. A nice place to stop probably just once on your trip (unless you are getting coffee at Aloha Roastery, then go every day).

Tip: If eating a Pizzetta, located here, the Costco in Lihue sells gift cards, $40 for $50.

By Ron L |

Great shopping in an old town atmosphere. Souvenirs, clothing, shoes, jewelry, art, crafts, shave ice, food and an excellent wine store! A wonderful selection of beach items at several stores, including suits, cover ups, foot wear. Tee-shirts, Hawaiian print shirts, rings, necklaces, candles, paintings - available in a number of shops, all with friendly, knowledgeable customer service.

By AZCatFan1998 |

On our way back to Lihue from Poipu we stopped here. I am glad we did! We bought some local art, Kauai nuts, and had dinner. Pizzetta is worththe stop alone!

By Jeff M |

Good food and coffee, a market, and the shopping is (honestly) just as good - if not better - than the more popular places on the island.

By Ctraveler2017 |

Stopped in for dinner at Pizetta's which was fantastic! While we waited for our table we stopped in a few shops and had a very pleasant experience.

By jpcwi |

Had a plate lunch and a sit down lunch at this quiet shadey place. They have a USPS there if you need. Nice low key shops. Bought some natural died shorts at a reasonable price and are very comfortable. Nice place to visit, short drive from Poipu. One huge Monkey Pod tree you gotta see, a real beauty. If I was 7 yrs old I'd be climbing the huge branches.

By mike h |

Second trip to Kauai. We love the quaintness of Koloa. Nice variety of food trucks and eateries. Especially love the Chip wrecked truck

By Exploration766915 |

This is a lovely area to wander around and shop. There were lots of options and different price ranges of stores. We would definitely recommend walking around here again!

By BobKatUSA |

Old Koloa Town has deteriorated more and more as the years have gone by. (I have been visiting Kauai and stopping Old Koloa Town each time for 30 years.) The stores sell cheaply made items and are musty and dusty. The one nice shop to visit is Kauai Gourmet Nuts, which offers free samples. We do stop here to get some to take home as gifts for staff and family.

By mek99 |

This little area is on the site of a former sugar plantation, now a more tourist area with shops, a grocery, and restaurants. Parking is at a premium but it is a fun place to walk around, particularly on a non-beach day.

By pvillejennie |

Take an evening and have a pizza, some great icecream an do a little fun shopping. There's even a little grocery store. We stop every time.

By Naplestravelers |

Classic eaterys, jewelry shops, souvenir shops, ice cream, especially visit Discount Souvenir located around the corner from the other shops. Great prices and good merchandise.

By Jendavino |

Quaint little downtown area. Quite a few little shops and places to eat. Koloa Shave Ice was a hit and a couple local shops. Good way to kill a couple hours shopping without all the crowds at malls and shopping center that really cater to tourist.

By royal palm t |

Great place to spend an afternoon looking at all the offerings, get a nice lunch, buy groceries and generally mix wtth locals and visitorw

By Betsy H |

Not the same ol' same ol' stuff you see at all the other shops. Many different things to see and shop for. It was a nice day trip.

By Demo3838 |

Handful of really nice shops, and if you have time, grab some shave ice around the corner to go with some great coffee.

By sndovale |

Take a drive to this quaint place. It's a glimpse of an old sugar town. Be sure to find the old sugar mill and drive up to it for a couple of pictures.

By Amy P |

We went to the shops at Old Koloa Town a few times during our stay on Kauai. The shops have the usual tourist-y items (t-shirts, jewelry, key chains, etc.) The merchandise we purchased was reasonably priced and of good quality. The shop keepers were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed hearing their stories about life on the island. Old Koloa Town is also home to a very large monkeypod tree, which is a nice backdrop for pictures. I would definitely recommend spending some time in the quaint shops of Old Koloa Town.

By Victoria L |

We popped in, and popped out. Interesting LOOKING town, but there wasn’t much to see or do here. Tourist trap shops.

By Markus |

Yes, Old Koloa Town is a Tourist spot. However, compared to other spots, it's not too crowded so you still have a chance to stroll the stores without being rushed by the Tourist crowds. Koloa Town offers restaurants (Pizzetta with great Pizza, Garden Island Grille for ice cold beer and great food), a Café (Koloa Mill, be sure to stop there for great Ice Cream and Shave Ice!), grocery shopping (Sueoka), some souvenir shops and clothing stores (e.g. Crazy Shirts). The parking spots along the Koloa Rd are usually all taken, especially at times around dinner, but there's more parking available at the back of the complex, near the Chevron gas station or at Weliweli Rd.

By Mdecker17 |

Our family came here yesterday for a day trip from Poipu. The small town has a lot of shops and restaurants. We toured the city and departed.

By Lou O |

If you have a couple hours and need a "beach break" visiting Old Koloa Town is a good place for a break. We walked the boardwalk and dropped into several shops to browse - a quaint little town.

By Paul L |

Much slower pace in Koloa, take your time and see it all, especially the gigantic MonkeyPod tree by the creek! Get out of the car!

By DJM1945 |

We stopped off for a coffee and cake and visited all the local shops and we were very impressed with the range and quality of them in lovely historic buildings.

By Glenn S |

This town is primarily a collection of gift shops located right at the end of the tree tunnel. It's right on the way to Poipu so you can't miss it. It's also home of Koloa Zipline which was a great experience.

By tastiger |

Lots of history of Hawaii; lots of little shops to cruise. A couple of really nice restaurants, and three or four good food trucks. Two groceries and some nice art galleries. Plus, some absolutely majestic trees!

By kmiller_33708 |

Old Koloa town had the feel of quaint Hawaii. It was a nice place for lunch and a leisurely walk around.

By Stu C |

Drove over and spent a hour or so checking out the place. Neat little town with shops. Some regular gift shops and some higher end places (local made T shirts and a high end gallery with paintings and artwork). Across the street is information about the old mill.

By DerAlteBach |

This is a pleasant shopping center catering to both tourists and locals. It's not particularly special, but if you're in the area, stop and take a look.

By Kathy L |

We stop here every visit and enjoy some of the shops. But finding parking can be tricky and the traffic is crazy busy. A few nice lunch spots and good snack options.

By wecamash |

Old Koloa Town is a quaint little stop and we like to stop by every time we visit. Cute shops, good restaurants, and a bit of history to boot. And lots of shade, too, which is always nice with the tropical sun.

By vnmillsy |

Lovely little town to visit. We came 3-4 times during our two week stay in Kauai. Ice cream was fantastic, don't miss the crystal bowls behind the oldest tree in town (trust me, it's an experience you won't want to miss) and be sure to check out the fish market for some delicious fresh poke.

By Ron R |

Cool little town with lots of old buildings and shops. The old growth trees are beautiful. Need to get away from beach or pool? This is nice part of a day trip.

By RonP1960 |

I Slo-mo grocery good place for coffee in the morning and some decent restaurants typical shops for souvenirs

By AdventureTripping |

It's a mix of convenience stores, food, and souvenirs. There are rentals too. Parking can sometimes be a challenge. Koloa fish market is the best quality poke, though the selection not the biggest. The grocery store sells necessities. There are some food trucks behind the stores.

By Joseph M |

The island of Kauai already stands out as the greenest and least touristy. Yes all Hawaii depends on tourists but some merchants and businesses seem to be more interested in providing a good value in return for your patronage than others. That is the case in Koloa. You won't need to take out a second mortgage for lunch or dinner when you go to Koloa. Plenty of places to choose from and for the most part the food is good, the portions are fit for a Hawaiian.

By Press-on-regardless |

Easy to reach, funky, friendly. Good shops, good food. Stop by. We stayed in Poipu and ended up coming back to Old Koloa Town almost every day for food or to walk around. Not big, not fancy, but a great alternative to the two fancy shopping centers in the area.

By lisaG2652XD |

Lot of cute shops that were former plantation buildings. Great choices, fair pricing. Helpful staff members. Limited parking.

By robertrT4940ZT |

Cute little town, well maintained with an assortment of gift shops, art galleries and places to grab a snack or a meal. Century old buildings have plaques with information about the structures. Lovely, very large monkey pod tree with twisted limbs. Fun place to stroll around for an hour or so.

By lbabler17 |

Fun shops. Prices high but it's Hawaii! Decent variety. Great nut and soap store. Enjoyed my time there with my 10 year old.

By dk |

Good place to find dinner and wonderful shaved ice. The town has a few stores and even a grocery store.

By Veronica Hunter |

Old Koloa Town has many shops, food trucks and a gourmet nut shop ... Sweet Heat macadamias are spicy and delicious.

By WildeaboutIreland |

Old Koloa Town is a great place to slow down, relax and enjoy. Lots of great shopping and local style eateries, two in particular stand out. Try the Koloa Fish Market for some of the best fresh fish, poke or grab a 2 choice plate, the mac and rice is perfest. Also try Dim N Dem Sum, it a food truck in the middle of town by the main intersection, their pork belly bao is da bomb! perfectly marinated pork belly with seasoned cucumber, carrot and cilantro sooooo good. Old Town Koloa is full of charm and history, soak up the Aloha, relax and kick back.

By 2KingsMom |

Nice to stroll through, parking can be tough very limited. We stumbled on a great lunch/dinner place that is in a hallway, a not to be missed called Garden Island Grille.

By r0btrav |

We made extensive us of the Big Save market for provisions and got coffee at the Aloha Roastery. There is also a food truck park here with several good food trucks. I highly recommend staying in the area.

By Newpietravels |

Nice assortment of shops with a little of everything. We tasted nuts, poked around, ordered lunch and shopped in the quaint village. So charming, we visited twice on our trip!

By Tyrannosaur |

nice little town with many stores, parking was not difficult to find on side streets, we went several times.

By enchantedlady |

I went here 3 times while visiting Kaui
And I like the fun vibe it is usually pretty busy but they always have seating and they have a full bar as well .
I like Old Koloa town as it is not stuffy or pretentious . You can wear casual clothes here and you don't feel uncomfortable .

By Manderj |

Thus is a quaint little town and has a variety of shops and restaurants. There are souvenir shops and Emperors Emporium has a great selection of souvenirs. The soap shop is great and has Hawaiian made soaps and many other toiletries. The fragranced goods are lovely and the aromas draw you into the shop. There are some great restaurants here as well so a good place to do some shopping and then have either lunch or dinner or just stop for coffee or an ice cream.

By Christine K |

Koloa town is a must see when you visit Kauai! There are lots of cute shops and several restaurants 2 grocery stores.

By Tim C |

One street to quietly stroll and enjoy light shopping and if so inclined, eat at one of the several options available.

By J-from-Marysville |

My wife and I stopped on a rainy day. We enjoyed. Really liked the Crazy Shirt Co. Also liked the mini museum next door to it. There's also an old smokestack left from a sugar mill. Food trucks are parked but the smokestack.

A good place to spend a little time and money.

By L8R |

You must stop in Old Koloa Town to stroll through a bit of old Hawaii. You can find food, drink, shave ice, souvenirs - something for everyone! Take note of the historic, sprawling tree right next to Crazy Shirts!

By subterranean_jack |

This is a historic small town, one of the most interesting in the United States. Very scenic location. Several nice shops and places to pick-up snacks as souvenirs or to gobble up immediately.

By jpschwk |

Lots of interesting stores and places to eat. We had a great lunch ar the Garden Island Grille on Koloa Road. The fish and shrimp combo was great and the guacamole delicious.

By Mr&MrsAdventure |

Lovely old fashioned shops, places to eat and drink or just browse. Beautiful road down into the village. You could spend a little while or all day just wandering around and taking in the village atmosphere. We didn't stay long as were really only there to go to the Koloa zip line.

By 379aprilh |

Cool little town with lots of interesting shops and a great shave ice stand. Town has an interesting history. Be sure to talk to some of the locals who have shops there! Also home to a couple of food trucks that have really good eats! We ended up going back to the town several times while we were on the Island.

By CamanoIslandJQ |

Always good for ice cream and shopping at a few of the local vendors. Don't miss the buildings that are back from the street a little. We found wonderful local goods and artwork in a small shop behind the ice cream place, I'd recommend walking around in the 2 square block area to see all the small shops and their merchandise.

By 4Bug-a-Boos |

This is such a lovely little town. We so enjoyed just strolling through the little stores and shops here. They have some great little restaurants and even a couple little food truck area with excellent food. We really enjoyed our visit.

By steffanieh287 |

This is a fun place to stop and shop while touring the west side of the island. Small quaint shops that sell island -made products

By Mike O |

This is a great little town on the south side. Koloa town has a charm all its own. There are lots of cute little shops, dining options and snack shops. My favorites are The Kauai Food Truck located in the park, The Koa Store and The Art House. A great way to spend a few hours.

By Milli D |

There are some small shops, restaurants and stores in Old Koloa Town. There are plenty of places to explore and a small memorial park.
Koloa is home to a great farmers market at noon on Mondays. It is where the first mill for sugar cane was built and the buildings still make a wonderful photo opportunity.

By Linda Magin |

It’s a quaint town with locals working there ( they give great advice for best local food). Unfortunately not many are selling REAL Hawaiian fare anymore. EG the “ Hawaiian Quilts” are from sarongs and made overseas. If looking for small items to take home you will find them here

By Kristi M |

We went for dinner at pizzeria. Loved the town with the shops. The shop keepers are all so friendly. Loved the charm and the old Hawaiian feel.

By DrD0ugH |

The old buildings that have been converted into shops were really neat. Several specialty shops that will take time to go through. There is a Big Save grocery to the left of the stores where many locals shop too if you need that. Prices not too bad for the islands. Nice stop with friendly people in every store.

By jcy20162016 |

Old Koloa Town was our favorite historic town of all the small towns we visited in our month-long vacation on all four major Hawaiian islands. Friendly people and cute shops as well as small eateries. Enjoyed the pastries from the ice cream shop. There was a very interesting art gallery that had lots of "Guido" prints (rooster). Love all those entertaining roosters and hens all over Kauai and other islands.

By Christine K |

Old Koloa Town is such a special place on Kauai. There are restaurants and food trucks and a variety of stores to shop in!

By Valerie L |

Every time we visit Kauai we spend a few hours in Old Town Koloa. It’s fun to walk around the shops, stopping for lunch at one of the many restaurants. Ample parking in lots behind the shops as well as street front. This time we tried la Spezia and had breakfast there twice - great choices and reasonable pricing.

By Unrestedmom1 |

This section of Koloa was definitely where the local people live. We shopped for groceries at Big Save. We were there late at night since our plane arrived in the evening. I would recommend going in the daytime since there were some shady looking people in the parking lot. This is a more depressed area. The shops on the main street were quaint. The prices were not much different than the newer shopping areas in town. Parking was limited and the largest parking lot belonged to a vendor who posted a Tow Away sign on their lot. The kids had the shaved ice which they enjoyed.

By jammerspot |

This may be a small town, but there are many shops and some great places to eat. There is a Crazy Shirts store and a Hawaiian made store, several art stores, grocery stores, soap and candle store, nearly stores, snorkel/swim stores, food trucks, ice cream store and a variety of other stores. In addition there are food trucks across the street. A quaint town with an overview of Kauai products.

By dtrottier2 |

This is not the largest town I have seen, we walked around within 1 hour. They have restaurants, mshops, a great fish market and the big save market that has everything you need. If you love old towns, you will love this place.

By Barb Z |

Stopped for the shave ice, and ice cream, stayed to do a little shopping, nice place to visit along your travels.

By Garry H |

Recommend you read a The story of Koloa by Donald Donohugh which will point you to what remains of the old Koloa as well as entertain you with the history of this plantation town and of Kauai generally

By Rob M |

Koloa is a neat old Hawaiian town with some shops, restaurants and stores. On one side of town is the Big Save supermarket, a great place to shop locally for groceries, since we cooked breakfast each morning at our. resort.

By imac2023 |

Loved strolling through shops of Old Koloa Town. It is a cute little historic town with huge trees providing ample shade on a hot sunny day. We loved their unique Kauai specific shops for handicrafts and food. Very enjoyable!

By Candy A |

The shaved ice was very good. Cute area to sit and chat while eating. The customer service was terrible the young lady waiting on customers had zero personality and kinda made you feel like you were imposing on her time. Didnt say thank you ar anything

By Chris S |

Small, picturesque town. The original city which started the sugar plantations. Walk through, free museum available; small shops and restaurants. The oldest church of the island is also located in this town. People are friendly and helpful.

By Martin S |

This is a nice place to spend part of a day, There are various shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. You can pick up souvenirs, local roasted nuts, and have a pizza.

By Drtpaper |

We stopped by for lunch before riding horses at CJM Stables. Ate at the food trucks behind the main street. Nothing too exciting. It is kind of a tourist trap kind of place. Not anything great to speak about. Enjoyed walking through the stores, having a shave ice and lunch. I would not make it a destination - long drive for not much to see. Kauai is so nice, I would just have lunch here and move on.

By Brian K |

Stop in and enjoy the many shops and places to eat. The art gallery is amazing and you will want to see this part of the island

By Lynne J |

Great spot to have lunch and wander through some quaint stores - best shave ice and the ice cream store and some other interesting shops on the road behind the main drag. Hard to park but be patient and find a spot.

By susangsays |

Stopped on a very windy rainy afternoon. Cute array of shops and eateries in old Koloa. Even a bit of history shared.

Super sweet little town. Check out the local grocery store and try their pineapple. It was delicious when we were there. A nice town with all kinds of shops and restaurants.

By Michelle B |

We spent a couple of hours here after our zipline tour and found the shops charming. We had lunch at Pizzetta and enjoyed dining on the back patio. The lunch option of a slice of pizza and side salad were perfect the affordable.

By Mike S |

We drove through Koloa a few times on our way to the West side and thought it looked so quaint that we had to stop.

On the main little drag, there is shopping, restaurants, and a Big Save grocery store at the far end. We actually came back for dinner to Pizzetta when we saw it.

It is small and quaint as many on TA have expressed. If you are in the area, check it out. Has a very old school vibe. You can get ice cream, shaved ice, sit down meals, shop....I would say 2-3 hours should be a good time to allocate to experience this little town

My wife and I have been visiting this small town off and on for several years and we just recently did so again. There isn't a whole lot here but it is a nice drive if you approach from the north and come down the tree tunnel road. It is a good place to grab a cold non-alcoholic drink and maybe some ice cream although there are a couple of places to eat here as well. The shopping is fairly unique but a mix of the stuff you commonly find elsewhere as well. The art gallery and the Pohaku T-Shirt shop are worthy of a stop as you will see some very nice art and t-shirts you will not find elsewhere in the Islands. (We always end up buying at least one or two t-shirts as they are hand died and have neat designs you can't find anywhere else.) I would recommend stopping by Old Koloa Town when visiting Kauai and take some time to relax.

By angcshows |

This place is in need of a major makeover and only good for getting souvenirs.

We went expecting a cute old town that would show us the history of the town and look like how it was before, but it was nothing like how we expected. It is just a small area filled with stores selling the same type of souvenirs and restaurants scattered in between.

There is a 'museum' that is in major disrepair and completely neglected. You could not read most of the captions for the photos and extremely dirty. Even though it is open air, they could attempt to keep it clean.

We just left completely disappointed and hope that there are plans to take it back to its glory days.

By DannSTP |

This is a neat, laid back village with lots to see and do. Plenty of shops to explore and enjoy.
Allow yourself an afternoon to wander and explore, stop for a beverage, it'll be time well spent.

By hoehring |

very laid back - small little shops - unique feel - grabbed a bite to eat. fun just to spend a little time to explore.

By Trav_LN_now |

Like everything pace yourself. We enjoyed going in and out of the shops. Nice area. Nice people. Parking out front is in demand. Didn't buy to much. Prices weren't terrible but its just got to jump out at me. Then the price doesn't matter, right? Came back here and ate at the Garden Island Grill (see that review). Kauai ATV is right behind this area of shops and shopping.

By Barb lester |

Loved this little convenient shopping area very unique shops! A little bit of everything and very very conveniently located!!

By Michael P |

A must see. Some of the most amazing scenery, great little shops, and friendly locals. Definitely recommend!

By jdyjon3 |

A fun place to stroll on the boardwalk style sidewalks and visit the quaint shops with souvenirs and treats to remember your visit to this unique small town.

By scphil21 |

A touristy shopping spot now, but this is what old Hawaii looked like before the tourists showed up. Nice vibe. Worth a couple hours of hanging out.

By bennays |

A good way to spend a few hours when you're weary of sun and sea. Cute shops. Grocery store. Koloa Fish Market is the place to get your local poke on...

By BK33458 |

Small town that contains the post office, a number of shops in which to find trinkets, art , a fish market, small food markets. You’ll always find several food trucks and a gas station. La Spezia restaurant is also located in the town.

By Jeff W |

Love this little town, fun little shops and great local food. we recommend the snack shop next to the little grocery store. We have eatten there several times and it is always tastey.

By Malice6 |

This has not changed in the 30 plus years we have been going. Some old dilapidated buildings with newer shops and restaurants inserted into "historic" store fronts.
If you like to shop for t-shirts and eat in mediocre food places, this is for you.
There is really nothing "historic" about it other than it was once a company town for the local sugar mill. Total disconnect between historic past and present tourist shops.
There is really nothing interesting to see or do here.

By ancas15 |

It is a small town. there are small shops that are unique. We didn't spend too much time here as the teeneagers weren't too interested.

By sc2nc |

We spent a morning walking around to the shops, enjoying the trees and historic buildings. We found a great art gallery and food trucks.

By MSue |

Great way to spend a few hours while it rained. Lots of shops and places to grab a bite to eat. Some of the stores had some quite interesting merchandise! Don't miss the shave ice at The Fresh Shave. Best we had on the entire island!

By Sophie_Linn |

Only a few shops/restaurants, but so much character. Personal favorites, the Art House, Jungle Girl & the ice cream place.

By Michael O |

beautiful little town with original charm. lots of shopping of all types: independant local made clothing to markets, ice cream to nice italian restuarants, art galleries, bar with live music. All with the old town feel. very nice friendly people. A must see place

By Njoytravl |

This is the site of the first successful sugar plantation on Kauai. There are a few historic displays among the shops and restaurants - a great way to spend the afternoon walking around. Parking was fairly easy.

By John G |

Lots of fun shops and places to eat. We ended up getting a fantastic fresh fish taco at the Chalupa Food Truck. Yum!

By Tara B |

We hadn't planned to stop here on our way to Sprouting Horn, but it was a cute shopping area with food trucks, so we thought we'd look around. There was plenty of free parking near the shops. Old Koloa Town was the first sugar plantation town in all the islands. There are several historic plaques around the town. We saw the big monkeypod tree. Our favorite shop was Crazy Shirts. The sales lady here was so friendly. She took the time to explain how their shirts are made. That was really cool. I got one that had been dyed in coconut milk and my husband got one that had been dyed in Kona coffee. Then they were packaged really cute. (Reminded us of Johnny Cupcakes' t-shirts.) We enjoyed the food trucks and eating lunch near the sugar mill remains. We spent about an hour here before heading on toward Sprouting Horn/Poipu Beach area.

By socal13 |

We were staying in the Koloa area and went to the old Koloa town on several occasions throughout our trip. Many shops, markets and restaurants to browse through in a fun, old-town setting. The pizza place, right in the middle of the old town, was great.

By Denial1 |

Good for a short walk thru the little town, good shops to browse in and good restaurants to eat at! Highly recommend!

By Susan H |

Great little stop on our Island Tour with a large number of food choices as well as some small shops and clean bathrooms. Lots of outdoor seating for eating and relaxing. They even have a small grocery store.

By jland0001 |

We generally stop in here for shopping. There are some good places to eat for breakfast and lunch but some that are more "holes in the wall".

By Andree M |

What a cute little place.Typical looks historical. All nicely taken care of. If you want a relaxing morning or afternoon pop into town a stroll around. Loads of quaint shops and restaurants.Don't forget to get your shaved ice, it's worth it.

By JimW551 |

We love this area and come to Poipu almost every year. We hang out and shop in Koloa Town. Nice shops and unique stuff. Feels like old Hawaii and not commercial.

By Pamela C |

We enjoyed visiting the shops and appreciated the surroundings. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly. The courtyard was especially pleasant.

By Mike O |

Old Koloa Town is a nice place to spend sometime. Mostly shopping and dining it's still has many original old buildings with that old Hawaiian feel. Our usual stops ar Pizzetta, Koloa Shave Ice and Kauai Food Truck (in the park). There is also a supermarket and post office at the top of the street.

By Lisa G |

Stopped here and walked around. Quaint little shops. There are food trucks across the street and some local restaurants. Don’t miss the monkey pod tree.

By Biagio351 |

One of our favorite places on Kauai. Very quaint and authentic. Off the beaten path. Wonderful shops and to have a quick bite.

By JeanneandDavid P |

Spent several hours over several visits enjoying Old Koloa Town...shopping, eating out, wandering

Old Koloa fish market serves fine plate lunch

By Sher D |

This little town has a lot to offer. Grocery stores, markets, tours, restaurants, history and so much more.

By pratts81 |

We stopped here on a whim but I am sure glad we did. It has some nice shops and it was a nice walk down the street checking it all out. I wish we had more time to explore more of the town itself. Parking was good and the area is quiet and friendly. We would definitely come here again and spend more time.

By EmBentley |

This is a cute, place for a quick stop to browse shops, take in a little history of the area and perhaps grab some shave ice. Not a lot else to do here, but it is worth a stop!

By Lynne J |

Easy place to let the kids wander around and explore fun shops and a great coffee bar - road work out front seems annoying but don’t let that stop you. This is much quainter and attractive then the new mall type stores - good little grocery stores too.

By David B |

Lines of shops and cafes. Lots to see and taste. Shopping for everything from surf boards to jewelry. Ice cream to poke’.

By Megjon08 |

Very nice area to walk around and do some shopping. We took the Kauai Shuttle 30 from Poipu. Fresh Shave was the best shave ice we had on Kauai

By Loren778899 |

Cozy shops with Hawaiian stuff, interesting trees and people as well as a slow atmosphere with good food choices.

By GoGo2SlowGo |

Koloa town is pretty darned small. However, there is plenty to see. There is a monument to an original sugar cane mill across the street. The town has plenty of interesting shops to visit, restaurants, shaved ice, etc. There is parking for the group of shops but you can also park on the street. They've done a nice job with the shops and it welcomes visitors to the area. There is a supermarket here as well in case you want to get something for the hotel.

By timcarla |

Didn't take very long, don't go out of your way. Touristy shops, a few food trucks (several were closed). I am not a huge shopper or buyer of trinkets so others may really like it. Free parking on the streets.

By Dawn Champine Larzelier |

We enjoyed our afternoon in this little town. The food truck court was open and offered a great selection of foods. the tourist shops were filled with unique offerings. the art galleries had art of all sorts, from photography to paintings and pottery...my only regret here was that the ice cream shop selling dole whip was not open.

By TheBlitz |

Lots of interesting points of entry, and history, and good snack shops and diners around. High points for a free walkthrough museum that is as quaint as the little downtown area.

By SunnySeattle00 |

Old Koloa town has several great restaurants and shops along its main road. Take the time to visit, you won't be disappointed!

By Anne H |

A very quaint area of Kauai. I loved all the shops and the local history available. The little stores were quite fun and some good food as well.

By Manderj |

This is a great place for shopping with a variety of shops. Crazy shirts always a great place to buy t-shirts. Lovely art shop. Love the Island Soap and candle works. The fragrant aromas from this shop are divine.

By secretsqrl |

We did quite a bit of shopping in Koloa. It has higher end art/jewelry, as well as typical tourist shops - so something for every one. There's also a good ice cream shop and pizza place. We took in some of the local history (sugarcane plantation) and natural attraction (Spouting Horn).

By guehling |

You will find you standard T-shirt shops, pizzeria and ice cream joint but it's a lovely visit to a small but fully featured little town.

By Terry S |

Not really much to say about Old Koloa Town. Tourist haven for sure. Some funky shops selling t-shirts and such. Good museum to understand some of the local Hawaiian culture. A few restaurants as well.

Good food truck choices - both over at the Old Sugar Mill Monument or those hiding out back.

Lots of folks visiting Sueoka's Snack Snack - probably because of their prices. Cheapest eats I saw on all of Kauai. No idea of quality as we did not eat there; but with the line of people waiting must not be too bad.

The "Shave" Ice place is pretty good - but a bit expensive - yet welcome to Kauai. It is called "shave" ice and you will be corrected if you say "shaved" ice.

By pattym73 |

We love visiting this little town each time we come to Kauai .

The town has a great relaxed feel that offers lots of places to eat like the pizzeria , shaved ice and an ice cream store.

There is a grocery store here as well that is really handy for snacks , alcohol etc

By Angela F |

Old Koloa Town is an interesting if brief stop on the way to Waimea or Po'ipu. The buildings date from the sugar production era and are now filled with shops of the ubiquitous tourist kind common on the islands. There is a small, low key historical display in the inner courtyard which also contains a beautifully kept tropical garden. Aloha Roastery is an excellent place to buy good coffee and up the road a little towards the Safeway supermarket is Koloa Deli, recommended for a fresh sandwich and good coffee. Across the highway a group of food trucks provide a range of asian food and tacos. Worth stopping for food and a wander about.

By Travellers |

What a great little drive not too far from our villa. Great place to visit, shop and or stop for a bite to eat. Very friendly folks and nice establishments.

By Doug W |

Not a lot here except for shopping. Some of the stores we couldn't wait to get out of, while others were at least worth stepping into. Good place to get Hawaiian Shave Ice, but not a lot to attract us back!

By happy4travel |

We loved this place! What a darling and historic place to visit. I could spend hours strolling the little side streets. Great place to check out the shops, dine at the bistro, and enjoy a picnic under a tree! Lots of locals, especially during the holidays. Most folks are friendly and tolerant of visitors. Have a great day!! 😍

By chubtor |

The town has something for all ages and prices. Nice boardwalk with clothes, gifts and eating places. Just around the corner past the main drag going towards the Chevron garage there are some nice locally produced clothes shops.

By Andy L |

Very quaint area and shopping area with plenty of things to do while walking around.Nice shops and places to eat.

By QuickWhitTravel |

This is an adorable town! We found it quite by accident, but we are so glad we did. The shops are cute and laid-back, just like the people.

By instyle11 |

We loved this little town - it was very pretty with the creek running through it, and all of the beautiful tall trees. Its also the location for our favourite Kauai restaurant - Pizzetta. There is a small supermarket on the main street, and a big Safeway just up the road. Plenty of places to eat, also some shrimp trucks.
Quaint little shops, public toilets around the back. Parking can be found on the main street, or around the back of the shops.

By Sue J |

We enjoyed walking around this cute little town. Be sure to find the museum, its very small and free withy lots of local pictures. The pharmacy had the best selection of postcards!

By Brandon K |

We rented a car and ended up in Koloa many times over the 5 days we were on Kauai. The first time, we were too early for the shops to be open and we just wandered quietly and got some coffee and hit the historic market (that is now stealthily an ABC store). We came back again during business hours and wandered around even more. The history of the area is very interesting if you read the plaques on the buildings.

By Copperloop |

There's not much to do around here; so, we walked around here. Cute little area. Not much to do. There is a little historical info in the back.

By Philip D |

This was our favorite town to visit during our time in Kauai. We didn't really seek out any reviews on this town, so were presently surprised with the shopping, coffee shops, and eating options. Not to be missed if you visit the island.

By judymariestj |

Visit The glass bowl store and listen to the music she can make. Taste macadamia and almond nuts flavored in many different ways.

By mmomom |

For the last three years we've been lucky enough to stay at Lawai Beach Resort and have frequented Koloa Town many, many times. We love it there. Lots of cute little shops to browse ... great grocery stores and fabulous restaurants, not to mention awesome Ice Cream at the Mill! It's a sleepy, friendly little town and when we are in Kauai, we feel right at home there. There are some neat Churches too, especially the oldest one on the island. One afternoon we spent several hours walking the grounds ... so peaceful and pretty. Come to Koloa Town .... I think you'll like it!!

By J H |

We walked through it because we rented out snorkel gear here. It was ok. Be ware that prices vary between shops. We bought 2 wood postcards and one shop sold them for $7.50 each and 2 shops down they were selling them for $5.50 each. It is touristy. The middle courtyard was nice. Not sure I'd go out of my way to visit it.

By Colin Archibald |

There are shops and restaurants here, but take the time to walk to the back of the center where the Koloa Heritage center provides some local history and information about the area.

By JAE* |

There are so many little shops to browse through! I love this town. It is easy to access, ample parking, beautiful trees and great restaurants! There is even a market in case you need to buy things before heading back to your hotel.

By Maui2014NMR |

Koloa is an old town on the island of Kauai. At this time, there are primarily shops and restaurants there for the tourists. There is an impressive old Monkey Pod tree to see. We enjoyed lunch at the Garden Island Grille - - request Dawn to be your server.

By John P |

Stopped by on the way to Poipu and really enjoyed it. Great food available from food trucks and also restaurants. The homemade soap store down at the end of the business complex has AMAZING products. Really a fun stop.

By Gary B |

Old Koloa is a place worth visiting. We like to stop at places that highlight local color and history. The folks of Old Koloa Town made an effort to offer up some history. As you walk through the town, many of the buildings have plaques near the door explaining the historic value of the buildings and how they fit into the old town near the sugar factory. In some cases you will find information about people associated with the building or the town's history. Unfortunately, pretty much every building now holds a touristy store. One or two held as historic sites would have been nice, but I suppose fewer people would stop for that.
The shops are pretty touristy; there are lots of T-shirts, knickknacks, etc. On the other hand, there are a number of art stores and some specialty shops that are worth a visit.
Take time to look at the history displays/sites in this sugar mill/plantation town. The Garden Island Grille is a great place for lunch, and they have good adult beverages.

By Stephen V 🇨🇦🏝✈️ |

This is a great little historic town just outside of Poipu beach area....close to the Sheraton Kauai

By ShannonValdespino |

We love this little town and always visit when we are in Kauai. You can grab a bite to eat and do some shopping, which I did while visiting. We had the best piece of pizza at Pizzetta. What is in their sauce?! I love Island Soap & Candle Store and picked up numerous gifts (including some items for me!) while there.

By Gallopingghost_77 |

A few good shops, restaurants, and some historical information. Not very exciting but ok for a change of pace from the beach.

By JPMcGuire |

Very much worth the getting off the main road for. Most of the shops are a bit touristy - but there is one very nice art gallery/shop and a great coffee shop. But the old buildings and the setting of this historic village is a must-see.

By KK78 |

This is a cute little town with shops and restaurants. Nice way to spend a little time away from the beach.

By MCohan2015 |

Old Koloa Town has a really nice Italian restaurant that serves reasonably priced food. The shaved ice store nearby by also has tasty treats for dessert. The grocery store close by has most items you might want, plus they have hot and cold food items that area already prepared.

By chamberlaincarri1 |

Loved this little town. There was a spot we found that sold dole whip along with ice cream & some baked desserts. We were so excited we found it because we have only been able to get dole whip at Disneyland in CA. They have lots of food trucks too. Great place to shop & eat!

By CasandraTP |

Koloa has an old school feel about it with a modern twist, full of shops and cafes. It does have something for everyone and worth a visit if you are in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit.

By Chris J |

such an authentic town, as you shop/eat you can learn about the area and its history. Loved it here!

By Brent W |

Quite a few different shops of many kinds, from trendy and funky to typical touristy. It was nice to go there once, but that was enough. It might be more hopping during the daytime, with food trucks all around and being easy to walk around. Worth checking out for some souvenirs.

By Gail O |

Lots of good shops, friendly people and good food at your fingertips. We stayed here for a week in a bungalow. Not as crowded and easy to navigate.

By iliketara |

This area is great for window shopping and grabbing snacks. Wasn’t my style of stuff, so I didn’t purchase anything other than food, but it was a great place to relax and window shop.

By Jeanne A |

Cute little town loved walking around shopping originally planned on doing an excursion of zip lining but the weather was not going to cooperate so we enjoyed our Little shopping evening

By lfn55 |

Good fish store and grocery store in this little town. Also good coffee near by, but I'm not sure what the big deal is about Koloa Town

By dom1947 |

no special shops or restaurants but probably 50 years ago was a top spot.it consisted of few restaurants and t shirt shops and a small market.the special site was a tree palnated over 100 years ago.

By lisaG2652XD |

Lots of cute shops that were once plantation buildings. A little on the pricey side, but most things, like Kauai Chickens (clothing) are very original. Nut House has some awesome treats!

By Sightseer59721865544 |

We went on a rainy day so the town wasn't as pretty as in the other reviews. However, it was a good activity to do whilst raining when the beaches and hikes were not an option! Lots to look at and cool shops, was very expensive though

By gmc1940 |

Love this little shopping center.....found great gifts and other things at great prices! Bought a wooden there...same item was $30 more at another gift shop!

By Mel |

We stopped here on our last day to do some last minute shopping. Great little shops and you also learn history about the sugar mill plantation.

By Autumn M |

This area isn't very big. There is a good coffee place and grocery store. Grab a coffee and take a stroll. There is some shopping.

By Brian M |

This is a quaint little town on the island of Kauai. It has a number of good local shops and a few places to eat. It is good to just walk through the town and stop for a coffee or ice cream.

By Tsa0531 |

We always go too Old Koloa Town 1st thing when we get to Kauai. It feels like a little hippie village with restaurant, little stores and some history! Stop for pizza and the freshest mojiti you will ever have. The grocery store has every thing you need to stick you fridge with snacks or full on meals. Even just a walk makes you relax!

By hopeanimals |

Went out of our way to visit this little old town. Some people say that it is a tourist trip with all the shops but that is only partly true, I find a lot of the shops on the island are 'tourist traps' and this area is very cute and has yummy smelling restaurants!

Be sure to stop by and explore!

By Suzan S |

We loved this experience. We bought gifts, had snacks, looked at art, and just strolled around. I loved the little historic part of town with displays. It was something different to do.

By steff146 |

I kept craving Old Koloa Town Shaved Ice! The owner is amazing and all the flavors we tried were perfect! Definitely worth the multiple trips! And while you're there, explore the shops nearby.

By buzzardsabroad |

Just loved this little town. It had such a friendly layed back atmosphere. Quaint buildings. Make sure to explore the hidden places down a corridor we found this amazing bar and eatery with a stage for entertainment. The best pizza I've ever had on the main street. The only thing was parking was difficult. Would go there again for sure.

By TravelBrianCO |

A few fun shops a restaurants on the strip. Worth a stop but likely not a second time. Parking on the street and in a dedicated lot on the end.

By ghotai |

Not too much to see here-- if you are in the area, stop by and walk through. It's quick, but parking is quite tight.

By ReachtheBeachKC |

we walked around and one place had 40% off but then I saw the same outfits at the Longs Drugstore for less money and not on sale. There is a relatively large grocery store, large for this area of the island called Big Save that i visited more than once

By Joseph A |

A great little town with an old Hawaii feel. Lots of cute little shops and a great tattoo parlor as well. There are food trucks and a couple little restaurants which were all pretty good. Certainly worth checking out!

By Tammy C |

We spent a morning here wondering thru the shops and reading historical exerpts posted about history here. Worth taking a few hours to walk around. We found it enjoyable and educational too.

By Michael C |

Very interesting small town with specialty shops and its own history center. My wife and I stopped here on our way to another town. It's small enough that it didn't take too much time out of our day to check out the history center and several of the shops. The history center had some interesting information about the history of the town and the sugar industry. Also, I had been searching for a dessert called Dole whip and had about given up the search. But, I found it at an ice cream shop here..

By Steven P |

This is a cute, historic town near Poipu Beach. It's well worth the time to stop, shop, see the museum, etc. There's a great local grocery store/market.

By Paula H |

Old Koloa Town is a charming little street of old sugar plantation buildings that have been converted into shops and restaurants. It's definitely worth a wander. Some of the shops are just your typical tourist stores but there are a few gems. Plus the atmosphere is so nice it's just lovely to grab an iced coffee and have a wander.

By Katie T |

Nice little area but nothing really there or interest. There are the usual crap tourist Hawaiian shops, a candle shop, crystal shop and some art galleries. I spent most of my time in he supermarket though as most other shops I went in and out of pretty quickly. I did have some nice fish tacos from a food truck round back. I would have a look if your staying south. I wouldn't drive from the north just to look at this town.

By robinmarie2015 |

We have been coming to Kauai for 20 years and never really stopped to spend time here until this trip...what an awesome little spot! Lovely people, good food and on Wednesday nights you can hear singing bowls as you stroll through. Awesome little shops too.

By Escape-overseas |

A small group of shops trading from renovated and restored plantation buildings. On street free parking available. The individual history and use of each building is detailed on the plaques fixed to the walls, visible as you walk along the timber front walkway

By too_few_trips_1 |

Koloa is the intersection of several roads. What was a sugar processing town has become a small set of shops. Most are aimed at tourists. In addition, there is a grocery and a couple of restaurants.

I'm not a shopper, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Koloa.

By RoaringCrab |

A quaint little strip of boutique shops and restaurants. It was a nice way to blow an hour or so and get out of the heat as many of the shops had air conditioning!

By mariedesjardins |

Visited while on vacay in June 2018. Not much parking, small complex with few shops and dining. Would recommend a visit to Pizzetta.

By Mikeofokc |

The store fronts are classic 60’s style. You have Hawaiian Ice, grocers, cheap eats, expensive eats, pizza, burgers, music, t-shirts, Knick Knacks, ice cream, and a laid back but service oriented group of locals and new locals.

By Travel’n Matt |

Very nice welcoming area with some
Amenities. ABC store of course. Great stop on the way to poipu beach. Actually wish I had more time to check it out

By Jon M |

I love the slow easy vibe of old Koloa town. This is a place to explore and savor. Try the food trucks, meet some artists, watch the creek, try some fresh fish. It’s a calm oasis.

By SoCalOregonian |

This an area of shops and restaurants that line Kaloa road from Poipu Road to Weliweli road. The buildings that now house the stores and restaurants are buildings from the early 1900's. There is also a Koloa Heritage Center that provides a glimpse into the history of this town. There is also the ruins of the old sugar mill of Koloa that was part of the first commercially successful sugarcane plantation in Hawaii.

By Brian N |

Quaint historic plantation town on the South side of the island. Well worth a stop and go hungry and visit Pizzetta! Amazing italian food!

By Jb4375 |

My husband and I are not the types to go shopping on vacation but since the weather canceled our scuba diving and kayaking plans, we drove from Kapaa for a look-see. We were pleased to wander in and out of shops, bought something at the gallery, and managed our expectations. We liked reading about the history at The History Center. (Regarding the review that said “they could do so much more”, I don’t know where that money would come from. Need to have money for upkeep and this is not a rich community. The history of the area is fascinating)
Also, we peeked in the Garden Grille before it opened and looked at the photos of famous people and movies that were filmed on the island.
There are four food trucks, a deli, a restaurant, in addition to the shave ice and ice cream shops, but we didn’t eat there.

By Jim H |

Quiet and relaxed shopping village. We found it a nice place to relax after a busy morning. Picked up a bit of history of the sugar plantation, poked around in shops, and enjoyed a fish lunch.

By Bongo88 |

This was the site of Kauai's first sugar mill. Old Koloa with its quaint little shops, galleries, and eateries is worth a visit. The food trucks nearby make great food, too!! Souvenirs, groceries, meals and snacks in quaint restored plantation buildings.

By btrain81 |

Our last day on the island was New Years Day and we could not have spent it in a better place. Most of the shops were closed, because of the holiday, but we were able to find a delicious restaurant and a couple cute shops.
Cant wait to go back!

By tadpolesdad5 |

I love the little town that never changes , I love the little grocery store and all the little shops and even the white church that's been there for a hundred and thirty years. It's picturesque in its beauty. A stop that you can't miss.

By Jennytravels2021 |

I had a free day alone today and really enjoyed walking around Old Koloa Town. There are lots of fun shops with nice people to talk to. I bought many fun souvenirs to bring home.

Lots of little shops to explore.

This is an old style town which looks as though it has come straight out of the movies. A bit like a western town but with its own charm. Hawaiian ice shave and some interesting shops to buy a few souvenirs. Lovely place to stop.

We loved all the little shops and history in this oldest little plantation town. We also stopped in a little hidden gem, the Koloa Fish Market. This is a great little place to get a quick bite if you like fish

Koloa is a gem of an historic old Hawaii town in the southern area of Kauai. Step back in time to a slower pace under the canopies of large trees and enjoy your stroll. There are a number of cute shops and a grocery store, offering food, coffees, gifts, tourist souvenirs, clothing and more. We spent a few hours taking it all in during a pleasant late afternoon. There is plenty of parking and lots to see. Worth the visit.

My husband and I spent a couple of hours wandering the Old Town, reading the historical signage, doing some shopping for friends' gifts, he bought himself a shirt, and we enjoyed lunch at the Garden Island Grill.

Koloa is a quaint old town which boasts lost of restaurants, tourist shops and some supermarkets. Well worth a visit but choose a time when it is not too busy. The farmers' market is great.

The shops here are all very similar but they provide a good diversion before or after a meal. The town is charming and the shops similar to some I see when visiting the beaches in Florida.

This is a somewhat restored or preserved "company" town for the first plantation in Hawaii, begun in 1835 or so. There are a number of shops and restaurants. Most of the shops are essentially souvenir shops, though there are 3 interesting galleries. If I were in the area for other reasons, I would stop for 30 - 45 minutes or so. A "plus," too, is that there is a convenient free parking area.

Nice small town feel. Primarily along one street - about three or four blocks long. Offering nice tourist shops, grocery store, pizza, a couple of restaurants, food trucks, etc. Very close to Poipu.

Last time we were here was almost 30 years ago. Still, funky, friendly and just a teeny bit tacky. If you spend some time poking around you'll find some really good stuff at reasonable prices. There are numerous good places to eat. Two good small grocery stores that sell the stuff locals eat. Load up on coffee and local products - stock the condo with booze and beer or head to the nice liquor store. All manner of shops. Great place to hang out even just to stop for a snack or shaved ice (the real deal). Great food trucks across the street in the park. We got all our going home souvenirs here and my daughter found a great swim suit. Also a good dive shop for outings and rentals. If you want high end and over priced you are in the wrong place.

Great for a stroll and light shopping in a beautiful area. Feels like a little beach town and love that all the shops are independent. If you are staying in Poipu or any surrounding area, you should definitely stop for breakfast/lunch/shopping!

There are a few shops that are unique and fun. Also, there are a few shops that have the same old stuff as everywhere else. The buildings are nice and historic and there is pretty adquate parking.

This little town is full of places to eat .... All of them are very tasty. There are shops, and places to find unique items of Kauai that we still treasure today. Try the local fish market for some out of this world poke.

Loved Old Koloa Town- we returned several times to search for just-right souvenirs. Easy to park and walk around, public restrooms easily accessible, and a variety of food and other treats.

This is worh a visit for an hour or two if you are driving around southern Kauai. This town is not far from the tree tunnel and has a relaxed and beachy feel. The original use of the buildings (and photos of how they used to look) is sign posted for those who are interested. The shops are varied and so are the prices of the various products you will find for sale. I thought the Emporium was higher priced than other places on Kauai for some products but I also saw some things there that I had not seen elsewhere.

There were various food options with my favourite being a restaurant up a walkwayboff the main street. It had a court yard area with beautiful green and red lizards and brown lizards and birds. It also had clean toilets great food (I recommend the kalua pork tacos) and happy hour cocktails mid afternoon.

We enjoyed eating at the Mexican food truck behind the Main Street (Chalupa's), the ice cream and coffee at the Koloa Mill Ice Cream Shop, and then a stroll into lovely shops. Bought a bikini, stopped for groceries, and had a great stroll. Check out the cute little art gallery.

History, fun shops, eateries, great local market-sueokas. The ambiance is what makes it rock— note the huge monkeypod tree!

This is a fun little respite from the resort scene. Some cute shops, a couple of casual eating spots with good food and reasonable prices. Don't miss the wine shop!!

This was once a sugar mill town on the south coast of Kauai. Today, it's mostly a cluster of tourist-oriented shops and restaurants, though the old buildings have some historical/architectural interest.

perhaps the closest thing to a traditional small town that's findable near Poipu, the market has fresh-baked pies, the ice cream place is great, food trucks are affordable and friendly

Quaint old town that has a lot of charm. There are some good restaurants mixed in with a bunch of run down tourist trap t-shirt stores. The old grocery store is celebrating it's 100th year anniversary, but the prices there were crazy high, and the dairy products were still on the shelf with expired dates. This area could really be fixed up with some new businesses and some better upkeep.

Interesting little area.

Compact with a unique variety of shops and services.
Park your car in the ample free parking and give yourself plenty of time to meander around and enjoy the many offering in the tiny shops!

Having driven past Old Koloa Town a couple of times on our outings in Kauai, we knew we wanted to explore the place. So, after doing a zipline tour in the morning one day, we hit the old boardwalk. There are some nice shops here--a good Hawaiian clothing store, a nut shop, a small grocery, a couple of cool art studios, some typical souvenir places, and more.

It's worth an hour or so just to browse the stores, and more if you decided to have a meal here (that's what we did, at the excellent Garden Island Grille). Don't forget to cross the river and check out the shops on the other side, and read about the history of this lovely town in the small historical "museum" off the courtyard.

Big Save grocery is the local and authentic place to shop for food. They have everything you want without the Costco size packaging- items like Hawaiian ice cream, drinks, eggs, and cereal. The Monday farmer's market brings the best, friendliest vendors. Look for the honey lady and take home a sweet souvenir in your checked bag. It brings back the memories of Hawaii after you've returned home. If you need medical attention (though I hope you don't!) the little clinic is caring and expert. Koloa is a tiny town of the nicest kind.

We visited Old Koloa Town during a visit to Kauai. We visited the small history/cultural museum and posed for pictures beneath the sprawling Monkeypod tree outside the general store. Some gardens and sculptures add to the tour. We bought some souvenirs and visited the Kauai Nut Roasters in Old Koloa Town.
