Beautiful falls. We were on a daylong Kauai shore excursion and this was one of the stops. Nothing to do here but see the falls, but they are worth a 5 minute stop.

This is definitely worth a look, including the vista of the river and the ocean beyond (across the road from the falls viewpoint).

Pretty close to our condo and an easy trek to view. Easy parking in a turnout off main road. The picture spot is perfect and the falls were moving even during a dry spell. A couple of people selling lei's and things but not pushy. A nice quick stop.

Opaekaa Falls is a beautiful, easy, and convenient stop to make on your island vacation. There is ample parking and restrooms. From the parking lot to view the falls, it is maybe 20 steps. I suggest a visit here.

We only see waterfalls from the helicopter or drive to them, no hiking.'Opaeka'a Falls is easy to get to, just park and walk to see the falls. The falls are 151 feet tall, 40 feet wide, and flow over basalt from volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. The name means "rolling shrimp" for the freshwater shrimp that rolled and tumbled over the falls many years ago. We saw beautiful, sparkling waterfalls in a double cascade falling into the pool below. The surrounding plants were lush and green. We recommend going to see the falls.

Very nice place to visit. Not much you can see. Waterfall is quite distant. You can take some pictures but from very far. Parking lot is clean and available. Across from waterfall is beautiful view of local river. You can see natives on the rafts and boats.

Another quick stop and photo op. Would be cool to see it closer but I highly doubt that would be possible. Ventured across the road as well and took pictures of the river. Great views and quick and easy with lots of parking.

Opaekaa Falls is a popular stopping point for the cruise ship excursions, as I did two trips on our two days in Kauai and both of them stopped here. Opaekaa translates as rolling shrimp, although I never saw any shrimp rolling on my two visits LOL.
There is ample parking in a layby off the main road and you can walk a hundred yards or so to get a decent photo of the falls. Note the falls are not right next to the road, but in the distance, but they are impressive looking falls and well worth a stop. From the photo spot it's also worth crossing over the road, as there are majestic shots over a bend in the Wailua River below, where you can observe kayakers and the Smith Family River boats passing by. There are restrooms at the parking area. It's well worth a stop if passing this way.

The Opaeka'a Falls are just a few miles up the road from the main highway on the east coast of Kauai in Wailua. It's a quick drive from most hotels on that side of the island and easily accessible off the highway. If you park in the free parking lot and cross the highway on foot, you'll have a gorgeous view of the Wailua River.

This is nothing compared to Wailua Falls, which is just a short drive away. Small falls with ample parking nearby. Could check it out if you have ample time around the airport.

Great stop at Opaekaa falls. Amazing waterfalls. A true mutual wonder. Easy to get to and from admission and parking. This is a must see.

You can pull off of the road and see the falls from a small parking lot. The overview is not real close, but a great view nevertheless. You can also cross the road and see a great veiw on the other side as well.

We headed a few miles up 580 and there was a turn-out and parking lot with a fenced walkway to view the falls. On the other side of the road is a landing to enjoy the view toward the south (you will see the river below). It's a nice stop located just above a State Park and in close proximity to the Sleeping Giant (which is located off 581 just east of its intersection with 580).
Its a nice drive and worth the stop.
Enjoy...
Aloha

This was such a cool area. The falls are on one side and breathtaking views of the valley on the other side, with a connecting path. Great stop!

These falls are very accessible if you have a car. There is a little drive up parking lot and you just hop out and enjoy the view. White tailed Tropicbirds nest in the cliffs and can be seen flying around the canyon. This is a very peaceful spot where you can spend 10 minutes or hours. Enjoy the view and take some pictures!

This falls is observed from the road at a distance. It is very large ab-no easy to get to, find parking and their are Rest Rooms right there. One special highlight is the long winged boobies flying in the canyon in front.

Great Views of the Fall from the sidewalk and observation platform. Easy to drive to, plenty of parking and restroom facilities. Watch out for the flock of chickens hanging around, they will crowd you if you have food. A must see plus there is a viewing area across the road for the Wailua River Valley. You can watch all the Kayakers go up and back the river.

Getting to Opaekaa falls is very easy to get to, you can drive right to the viewing area. There are also public restrooms. Nice little stop to get out and take a break and take in the views. The walkways are all paved so this is a great place to see a waterfall if you are unable to hike the trails.

It is a quick trip up into the hills above Wailua and right off the Kuamoo Road. The falls and surroundings are a lovely sight. Go to the west end of the vista and cross the road for a beautiful view of the Wailua River and the Kamokila Hawaiian Village far below. The road down the the village is just past the south side of the vista. It is easy to miss and a rather steep drive down to the river but worth the trip.

I used to live on Kauai, and drove past these falls every day on the way to work. But we came back as tourists and went to see them. They are pretty overgrown with vegetation now, but still pretty and huge and jaw dropping. You literally will drive up to the parking lot (or ride up in a tour bus) and walk out to see them across the valley. Worth a stop to see though.

This waterfall can easily be seen from the footpath alongside the road. We were lucky that there had been some rain a few days earlier making the falls more spectacular.

151-feet tall Opaeka'a Falls are easy to get via auto and a pretty sight to boot. It is a double cascade that was really flowing the day we were there.

Easy access, quick in and out! A must see on a sunny day for photos. You can’t get close as there is a chain link fence but still good for photos. A few vendors in the parking lot with stuff to sell out of their cars

Stumbled upon this after leaving Lydgate chocolate farm and it was a pleasant little treat. Easy to view waterfall and River area with nice mountain backgrounds. Easy parking and restrooms. Check it out.

I love to visit Waterfalls. This was one on my list to visit. This particular Waterfall was a little disappointing compared to the other Waterfalls I saw on Kauai. I don't regret going there, because I wanted to see for myself what it looked like. If you go, just be aware the waterfall isn't as beautiful as some of the other waterfalls on Kauai.

It takes 5 minutes off the main road to go check out the falls. Can see it from a roadside viewing area. Chickens all over the place was interesting too. Restrooms. There's no hike, or at least not visible.

Located in Wailua River State Park, this waterfall is 151 feet long and one of the few that can be viewed from the road. Across the street is a nice view of Wailua River. Both spots are worth a look & provide photo opportunities.

Pretty falls and easy access. There's a parking lot and restrooms. It is well worth the visit and easy for those who have trouble walking to see.

As some reviewers have pointed out, the view of ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls from the overlook along Kuamoo Road (Rte 580) is from quite a distance away. It's more impressive if you have some binoculars or a telephoto camera lens. But it is nonetheless a very beautiful split waterfall, and the spot where you park in Wailua River State Park to access the overlook is well maintained & has some beautiful flowering bushes in the foreground of the adjacent view of the mountains. So this is an easily accessible place for an extra 20-30 minutes out of your busy day, to stop & enjoy the Kauai scenery away from the coastline.
A bonus for those who seek out ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls is the view from the opposite side of Kuamoo Road, of the Wailua River & its valley and Maunapaku Mountain. Just cross the road via the crosswalk at the top of the Falls overlook, and you'll be treated to a gorgeous view of the Wailua River and its surrounding green landscape. Together, these scenic glimpses of the East Kauai interior are definitely worth a detour off the Kuhio Highway north of Lihue.

This was part of a Princess cruise excursion. While we have been to Kauai before, this was our first time visiting Opeakaa Falls.
It is a short, easy walk to the falls from the parking lot. The falls are a long distance from the viewing areas, but still scenic.

This is an easy waterfall to go and see.
There is plenty of parking in the parking lot. It is a very short walk from the parking lot to where one can see the waterfall. And it is easy to get some great photos with the waterfall in the background.

In first visiting the Princeville area and then going to Poipu we decided on making a stop here as it didn’t seem like it was out of the way. Driving here was about a ten minute ride off of the main road and it was worth it as you have access to view the falls without walking on a trail. I wouldn’t make a special trip here but definitely stop if you are passing by.

Just back from visiting Opaekaa Falls. It is much more beautiful than anticipated from reading the reviews here. We drove from Koloa and it has been by far the most beautiful drive during our stay. I am comparing it to the drive to Waimea Canyon from Koloa, not as pictureresque. The landscape and the river views on the other side of the waterfalls are also spectacular! We drive through the tunnel of trees to Opaekaa Falls, that was lovely too. I think it was worth the trip, it only took us less than 2 hours round trip.

We viewed the waterfall by 9 a.m. before the busloads of tourists and were treated to the beauty and peace of the waterfall and surroundings. You could even pick up breakfast and sit in the shady park next to the parking lot. The signage getting to the falls is easy to follow. If you have time, you can continue on about 15-20 minutes on the road to the Kauai Hindu temple.

These falls were featured in the move Blue Hawaii. They are easily accessible from the road - just park, cross the street and take your pictures. Combined it with a stop a Wailua Falls which is only a few miles away. Nice day trip.

Definitely worth the time to stop here for a few minutes and be in awe of the natural beauty of these falls! Kauai is truly a nature lovers paradise and there falls are yet another piece to the HUGE puzzle that is the jewel of Hawaii, Kauai!

Lovely double falls with a parking lot and restroom to boot! You walk across the road (be careful) to view the Wailua River and the boats that visit the Fern Grotto. There is also a heiau down the road to visit, too.

You can easily reach the view point of the Opaekaa falls by car. However the lookout is very far from the falls so we don't see much.
I guess it is worth a stop if you are in the area since it is just a short drive from the main road but don't expect too much.

These falls are very pretty and worth seeing. They are right on the side of the road so you don’t need to hike to them. There is parking in the lot and a paved path for walking a little ways to see them, but you can still see them as you walk, drive by, or from your spot in the parking lot, although the angle is not as good. I suggest walking a bit to see them. If you walk across the street you also get a great view of the Waimea river and you can see the stone foundation/ruins of a once Hawaiian structure. Worth the stop. Good got all ages and very wheelchair and stroller friendly. Guard rail and fence keeps you safe.

We Kind of stumbled upon the Opaekaa Falls. We were looking for a hiking trail and saw the turn out and the cars so we stopped in. There is plenty of parking and restrooms as well. There is a long viewing area to see the falls and take photos. If you just cross the street, there is another lookout of the Waimea river. Very beautiful and worth the stop for pictures.

Nice drive thru the state park with a few historic markers to jump out and read, breathtaking views of the lush valley and finally the falls up on the mountainside. Lots of parking, plenty of open space. The falls are at a distance but you can see them clearly as you drive up to the parking area. Get out of your car and walk closer to a long viewing area along the fence. This is your fantasy waterfalls, double full flowing , surrounded by the lush greenery of trees and the multicolored flora on the mountainside . Have your camera ready, there will probably be a huge rainbow stretching from the right side of the falls thru the mist, across the green/brown of the mountain then at the end of the mountain the rainbow is incredibly wide and vibrant in color. We were there in the late afternoon after a bit of rain so can’t guarantee you’ll see the rainbow but it was an awesome sight going thru the waterfall. At the end of the walkway you can carefully cross the busy road (drivers are courteous) to a valley lookout that is definitely worth seeing- the river circling the mountain.

Opaekaa Falls is located on the Opaekaa Stream in Wailua River State Park. I love watching the tropic birds flying and nesting along the cliffs. Across the street is another lookout site for an overview of Wailua River. There were a couple of kayakers going up the river. there is a heiau nearby which offers another view of Wailua River and the town below.

I found the luxuriant forest and mountain backdrop more interesting than the falls themselves. As others have said, it’s free and accessible. This and other nearby quick stops are located near the airport, so it’s convenient to pass the last hour or two before catching a flight. And, it has washrooms!

We had a quick stop to visit Opaekaa waterfall – the name means rolling shrimp. This is a very tall waterfall (150 feet) located back from the road in a forested area. The falls cascade into a pool that you cannot see due to the numerous trees. Again, the views were gorgeous with most including a look at the Wailua river.

The Opaekaa Falls are not quite as impressive as Wailua Falls but still worth a visit for some pictures. There is a much bigger parking lot and a bathroom so it’s more convenient in general. There’s a beautiful view of the valley on the other side of the street which is worth checking out. I highly suggest visiting Opaekaa Falls before or after the Wailua Falls. They are about 20 minutes apart.

Located on a stream in Wailua River State Park, not far out of Kapa'a. It's a 150 foot water fall. The place where you park on the side of the road has the falls on one side and a great view of the Wailua River on the other side. And of course, as with everywhere on Kauai, you'll see lots of chickens.

The falls themselves are nice, but there are more spectacular on the island. Be sure and cross the road for the view overlooking the Wailua river. And keep going past the falls to Keahua Arboretum to see the rainbow eucalyptus trees.

One of the eaiser waterfalls to visit in Kauai. The parking is easy, there are restrooms, and the hike is very short to see the best views. It's a nice place to hang out, as the winds are usually blowing enough to keep you cool and there are lots of birds to watch. Head across the street to see the river, which you shouldn't forget to do, it's very pretty. If you're looking to take a perfect "I've been to Hawaii" photo, this is a good place to do it.

Average waterfalls - positivum it that you can see it from lookpoint near the main road. Its worth for short stop there.

Pretty waterfall but quite a long way off from the view point. Can park beside the view point and toilets nearby. Worth a visit.

Just a short walk from the parking area to where you can get the best photo shots. Always a nice place to stop in. There are usually local artisans that weave baskets and flowers out of palm leaves so you can get a taste of the local culture.

Unlike the Wailua Falls, the Opaekka Falls are further back and not as easy to see. The lookout points are too far from the falls to hear the water or see them clearly. Glad we had a telephoto lens. Definitely worth seeing, however. They're majestic.

After our tubing expedition with Kauai Backcountry Adventures, we began our tour of Kauai's North shore. Our first stop was the Ōpaekaa Falls overlook. This waterfall is visible from the highway...no need to hike. This is a quick stop to snap a few pics.

Easy drive to see this waterfall, with plenty of free parking and restrooms with good photo opportunity

The Opaekaa Waterfalls are located near Kapaa town in a beautiful valley of the Wailua River. The flow of water depends on the amount of rain in the mountains before. A very nice scenery!

You can see this waterfal if you stop at the parking, when you are on the road 580. Fast walk and on the right you could see the falls. Beautiful in the green but no more... You have so crazy things to see on this island that beautiful waterfalls become ordinary...
It's a pity to not have the opportunity to reach it by a trail. On the same road you could see two beautiful lookouts of the Wailua river.

This is a beautiful waterfall. It is very easy to get to. There seems to be plenty of free parking nearby. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

Small parking area with bathroom. Falls on one side of the road and the river on the other. Just down the road are plenty of opportunities to rent kayaks to go up river. Very pretty but from a distance.

Interested in the roar of water crashing on the rocks below; lush greenery of the Garden Isle; feeling awestruck by the power of nature; nature's beauty? Not here! Imagine a chain link fence, cars zipping past you, music blaring, as you take the falls miles away, two wee white bands on the side of the mountain. Later tonight I will apologize to my family for making them go there. Across the street though you can see an impressive view of Wailua River valley.

We were in the area and saw the sign for Opeeka Falls located in Kauai. There is a scenic lookout near the road that gives a great view and a walkway to get more close-up photos. There are picnic tables and restrooms nearby. Translated from Hawaiian, Opeeka means “rolling shrimp” because the area was known for its abundance of shrimp. I learned the overlook is where Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed.

We rented a couple of convertibles, the set off from Pride of America to tour the northside of Kauai. Our first stop was Opaekaa Falls. The drive was easy and there was a large parking lot for those visiting. I believe there were also bathrooms. The falls are viewed from a protected walkway along side of the road, and a good ways away from the falls, but the view is special. Walk to the other side of the road and view a beautiful valley and Wailua River.

Opaeka'a Falls is easy to view from the road, but no hiking is available. The bonus is that it is a pretty drive up the Wailua River Valley to the falls. But, you stand on a busy road to get a view of the falls. If you want to get out and experience a waterfall, it seems that Hanakapiai Falls is the way to go.

After seeing Wailua Falls and the waterfalls driving through Wainea Canyon State Park, this waterfall ranks as a site you drive to when you run out of places to go to. It is very easy to get to, only 2 miles off of hiway 56. But the view is so ordinary compared to the other accessible waterfalls, I would be very surprised if you spend more than 15 minutes at this site. Definitely better viewing and photo opts at the other accessible waterfalls on this island. Go there is you have time only...

I think the title says it all... the waterfall from this vista point, given it's a super easy drive to get here and there is a nice big free parking lot, is somewhat not possible to see... not only it's pretty far but everything is so overgrown (at least was during our October visit) that you can barely even see and despite what pictures show the pathway ends right as you get "any closer" and all you can do is cross the street...
... to get to the Wailua River - which is indeed a scenic and beautiful spot! Since both spots use the same parking lot that is the only reason why someone would want to visit this area - it's not really on the way to anything else either other than maybe the Hindu Temple
TIP: go see Wailua Falls - similar concept but smaller parking lot yet much better view and closer view of the Falls

The Opaekaa Falls Lookout is just a few minute drive from Kapaa. It has a decent sized parking lot and bathrooms. From the parking lot, its just a very short walk to see the falls. The Lookout also has many beautiful flowers around it. Definitely add this to your list of stops.

Just 2 miles up highway 580 (which is a good road) is the view of the falls and the Wailua River. Just before the falls is a small Heiau with more views of the river, worth a quick stop on the way up or the way back.

About a 30 minute drive from the Poipu Beach area. Parking spaces are in short supply, but it's only a few feet from the parking area to the overlook. Beautiful view of the falls and definitely worth the trip.

Opaekaa Falls are beautiful. The overlook is somewhat distant from the falls, but traffic and parking isn't near the challenge of Wailua Falls. The overlook of the Wailua River across the road is also great!

During early August, my wife and I drove up to Opaeka'a Falls. There had been some recent rain and the falls were flowing nicely. We like to check out the beautiful falls from the overlook viewing area each trip to Kauai. Great place for pictures. We believe the falls are a must see especially since they are so easy to get to. There is adequate parking plus restrooms and a great overlook across the street of the various activities on the Wailua River. There are signs prohibiting hiking down to the falls.

Quick drive up to the lookout access was perfect for a scenic tour on our first day on the island! Major plus, was it didn't require any hiking! You can walk up along the fenced in sidewalk to get a better look, and cross over on the crosswalk to get another beautiful view of the river.
You could get a great quick view within 5 minutes and head out, or pack a lunch and hang out- there are picnic tables and room to roam around.

This waterfall scene is easily viewed from the parking lot. It is a pretty sight and an easy drive to take.

You can't get close to these waterfalls and have to watch them from the distance. It's not a good experience at all. Most tourists spend 3-5 minutes here, snap a photo, and move on. Go see Wailua falls nearby for a MUCH better view.

During our February visit, we drove to these falls. There is a parking lot with a short walk to view the falls. Unfortunately, the water was not flowing at full force and the trees along the fence line was blocking some of the view. Easy access for everyone. Bathroom facilities.

A beautiful falls leading to a river. You can view both from the walkway at the turnout. It is a quick stop for a beautiful sight.

This is super quick to drive to and has TWO great views. The waterfall is very pretty but I actually prefer the view of the river once you cross the road. Spend a few minutes here, you won't regret it! Plus it's free!

With limited parking at many of the sites, this was an easy visit. It's a quick stop so the parking turns over quickly. It's a pretty view.

These falls are viewed from a parking lot lookout and we stopped here because it was on our way. Nice view and photo op memory. I thought the guy selling the coconuts was more interesting.

Worth the stop if you are driving in this direction but would not make a specific trip for this. Isolated area but not hard to get to

To start: the falls are absolutely beautifyl. However, at the parking lot we found some food sellers. One lady sold 100% gluten free mango bread and coconut pineapple bread. WARNING: don’t buy this bread if you are a real Celiac. I got terribly sick after eating this. Tried to go back but she alteady disappearead. So if you are a celiac and you see her, ignore the gluten free signs and enjoy the amazing falls!

Stopped by Opeakaa falls. These are beautiful falls- easily accessible , roadside, with great, ample parking. You can also walk across the road and see the Wailua river below.

These falls are tucked away in a valley just outside of Wailua. Across the road from viewing the falls is the beautiful Wailua River Valley. It would have been nice to have more time to hike through this area and maybe do some canoeing along the river.

These pretty falls are an easy drive off the main highway. Beautiful cascading falls, ample parking, clean restrooms and plenty of Kauai chickens to observe. Take the short drive up to see the falls and the river valley on the other side of the road.

This is an easy drive and has a nice lookout for you to see the falls. There is easy parking and bathrooms. Really beautiful falls. This is really close to the fern grotto so I recommend going to see the falls if you are going to the grotto.

The falls are off Kuamoo rd. There is plenty of parking. There is a restroom here. There is a few areas to view the Falls from (different angles). you can cross the street and get a view of the Wailua River as it meanders from the mountains.
Up the road mauka(toward the mountain) is the Hawaiian Village Kamokila.
Then down the road towards the highway is the Polahu Heiau. Sacred ancient Hawaiian ruins. Also there is another view of the Wailua River (ample parking spots here).

These beautiful falls are easily accessible to everyone. Just a short drive off the main highway and you are there. Plenty of parking.

Beautiful waterfalls just minutes from Kapa'a. It's probably the most easily accessed on the island, with a viewpoint on Highway 580, also known as Kuamo'o Road.
Opaeka'a means "rolling shrimp," which were once abundant here. The 151-foot falls flow year-round.

This is a nice falls to visit because of the surrounding sites. You can just park your car and see the falls. They are off in the distance, however the view of the mountains is fabulous.

The way to see the falls is from a pull off viewpoint off the road. The falls are very nice, but quite distant. Need binoculars or telephoto lens to appreciate. Across the road you can also view the Wailua River, also at a distance. We thought we could drive a bit further and see the falls closer, but apparently not. Like Wailua falls, this is okay to visit if you’re looking for something to do, but have high expectations.

A fun short visit. Can only see from parking lot but is still pretty and doesn't take long to get to.

Easy to access, the viewing point is right off the road with plenty of parking! Not to mention it is up the road from many of the activities you might be doing anyhow. Kauai's natural beauty is amazing and I can never get enough of viewing it all!

This was a short little drive from our hotel and it was so pretty. The parking lot was pretty much empty when we got there, so there was plenty of space. It was a short little walk to the falls. I only wish there was a way to get a better, closer look. So pretty- especially for how easily they are viewed!

The Opaekaa falls are easily one of the island's most accessible waterfalls. Located on the East Side about two miles up Kuamoo Road (Route 580) from Hwy. 56, signs clearly point to the roadside lookout on the right. This convenient stop offers visitors a great view from a scenic lookout and access to picnic tables and restrooms.

The falls are super easy to get to, just park and step out of your car so easily accessible for all. Not huge falls but the hillside is beautiful. Be sure to cross the street and enjoy the views of the river and hillside. It was across the street from the falls that we saw the Hawaiian village down below. We weren't sure what this was about so we drove down there (small road with sign across from falls) and we were pleasantly surprised by this old Hawaiian village. Really enjoyed our visit, just $5 entry. You can rent canoes here too.

I wouldn't waste time to see this, but if you happen to pass by, you can stop and take a quick look, no more than 5 minutes! You can only take pictures from the far, and there are better falls to see.

It was a cute enough waterfall on the way up the road. We didn't make a special trip or anything, nor would I recommend going out of your way (especially if you've seen Wailua Falls or Hanakapi'ai Falls already). There were a LOT of gnats at this rest stop. Keep your mouth closed.

Nice to see, it is easy to get to, and has good parking, so it doesn't take long to see. Nice picture opportunity too!

This place is actually two views in one spot. The falls and on the other side of the road the Wailua River. Both are worth stopping for especially after a good rainfall.

It looks exactly like the photo and if waterfalls is your thing, you should go. But if you're short on time, skip it. There are several other waterfalls on Kauai that are much more impressive.

Easy parking and public restroom.
Walk across the street for another viewing area where you can see the river bend, worth it since your already stopped.

This was a nice waterfall, but the view is from afar (hence 3 stars), so you really can't take good pictures unless you have a good camera and lens! There are restrooms and lots of parking place. Bring a Selfie Stick to take pictures!

The scenery is just fantastic. The waterfalls are just what you would hope to see while on Kauai. There are tour buses and such but it's not hard to get to the overlook. Take photos! They will be some of your favorite. There's a convenient restroom area also. There is a jw.org cart/stand there on the grass. Stop by and chat. They are very friendly.

Nice easy access to the falls. It is quite a bit away like many have said but it was so easy to drive to and hop out that I would say go for it. We have an 8 month old and it was easy to take him and we could have taken the stroller easily.

This is an easy drive and very short walk to see a lovely waterfall and then river and valley view. When we stopped, there were two vendors, one a gal selling papaya bread and coconut bread, both gluten free and absolutely delicious. Would skip the guy selling carved coconuts for water. Recommend you drive here so you can take your time. We were amazed by the tour folks that really rushed their people on and off. Relax and enjoy!

Our 4th visit to see the falls and they are just as beautiful as ever. Although they are far away, it is easy to get to with plenty of parking and a rest area! A good zoom camera would come in handy here. An added benefit is you can walk across the street for a view Wailua River.

Decent sized parking lot with restrooms. Cross the road (carefully) for nice view of Wailua River. Falls are in the distance, but still pretty. Nice, short pit stop if you're in the area.

Opaeka’a Falls (Rolling Shrimp) is easily accessible via road; the viewpoint is a short walk from the parking lot. After viewing the falls, cross the highway for a great view of the Wailua River Valley. There is no trail to the falls themselves so can only be viewed from the road.

This is another waterfall which can be viewed with a short drive from Kapa'a or Lihue. The overlook has adequate parking. Be sure to carefully cross the road and catch the view on the other side. All worth the trip.

So, I learned all about the waterfall including how it was erupted million years ago. So, this is waterfall id pretty cool.

Nice parking area, good view of falls and as you (carefully) cross the street. Wailua River. Nice for family pictures. Public Restroom.

These falls are seen from viewing point right off the road, and they are quite a distance away. I like the view of the river valley from the other side of the road better. If your in the area it might be worth a quick visit.

These water falls are beautiful. Across the street is another lookout to see the Wailua River...the view is incredible. Definitely worth your time and very close for those staying on the east side of the island.

This is a pretty but not so major tourist sight. For almost all who stop here, you will park across the road, halt traffic and cross to a sidewalk located anout two football fields away from a not to heavy flow of water dropping what I would guess to be about 100 feet. If you are passing, or within a short distance, stop and give a look. This is not worth travelling much out of your way unless you have never seen a waterfall before.

The waterfall can be viewed from a parking area formed adjacent to the Kuamo'o Road. Whilst there take the opportunity to cross the road for a picturesque view of the Wailua River. The 'Heritage Plaque' indicates that the mountain area is one of the wettest place on earth with an annual rainfall of 400-600 inches, which of course accounts for the volume of water cascading over the falls.

Nice scenic pit stop on your way to your final destination. You aren’t too close to the falls, and these are pretty small compared to like Wailua Falls, but still picturesque. The parking can get challenging and the rest area bathroom is surprisingly good.

Great roadside overlook. There is also a viewing area of the valley and ocean across the street. Easy access and ample parking.

The view was lovely. Easy to get to by car and a short walk on a paved path making it easy for all ages and fitness levels. The amount of water coming from the falls it's evidence of the abundance of rain the island is getting. In fact we got caught in a shower which was an unexpected surprise!

This is a falls you can see without a hike. Parking was minimal, as one car left another took its place. So many beautiful photo ops. The falls were dazzling and because we were so close the sound of the water was incredible. Put this one on the top of your list in Kauai. Go early in the day for easier parking.

This is a quick stop and worth a look. There is parking and a restroom. The waterfall is nice and there is a short path along the road to get a better look. Follow the path and cross the road to see the Wailua River as well.

Facing into the sun hard to find from lookout point. Used zoom to see and noted bushes were trimmed in some areas.
Bathrooms in parking area with viewing area to left along fence, use care if you are crossing highway to see the river

Only a short drive out of Wailua. Falls are beautiful, and great for--about 5 minutes of contemplation. Great to see when you are in the area--quick sidetrip--just not a destination.

This is a beautiful drive with a nice large pull out before you reach the falls that gives you a beautiful view of the whole valley. Driving a little further gets you to the parking lot area where you can view the falls. It’s a short walk and the view is lovely at the end. Restrooms are available as well.

This is a very pretty view. It's quick and not hard to find. Parking is easy and if you follow the walkway across the road you get other photo opportunities!

This was one of a few stops on our "waterfall day". Although the falls are not as close as others on the island, the surrounding area is lush and serene and there is plenty of parking.

This stop was not just about the falls. The scenery around the Falls was stunning. It was easy to cross the street to find parking and navigate between the falls and the great scenery.

Opaekaa Falls is an easy stop near Kapa'a and well worth the time. On Kaua'i, where waterfalls abound, these falls may be an afterthought, but the beauty of the area is exceptional. Anywhere else, this would be a very popular place to stop.
Four stars because there isn't much of an experience related to seeing the falls. Stop, walk a little, see the falls, take a few pictures, get back in the car. Worth it though. There is a particular grace in how these falls "fall" :) This is a place you can visit in 15 minutes or less.

Beautiful view and easy viewpoint. Right from the parking you get to get a good view of the Opaekaa Falls. Walk across the road and you will have a beautiful view of the Wailua river.

This dual waterfall is scene from the parking area along the road so there's not walking or hiking required.
You can walk up a little further and cross the road to get a view of the river.
We stopped here on our way to do the West Trail of the Sleeping Giant.
It's so easy to see and get to, why not stop and take a photo.

Very nice water fall. Lots of people which made it difficult to capture pictures. Nice it is walking distance and close to the parking lot.

The viewing parking lot is very far from the actual falls. Zooming lens required, pic was taken with an iPhone 7 Pus. Worth a stop but wouldn't go out of my way to visit. We stopped as it was on our way. Saw much prettier falls on the road to Hana.

Stop here - take your time and learn and appreciate where some of Kauai's water comes from. Leaving the highway in Wailua, travel up a couple of miles towards the wettest spot on earch and you will see the parking lot (restroom as well) on the right side of the road. If it is full, just wait for a little while, most people come, take a picture and move on. Don't be one of those - <grin>.
You cannot get too close to the falls as a fenced walkway keeps you out. However the view is breathtaking and realizing how much water comes through here is very interesting. It can be very peaceful if you have come early and no one is around. Be sure and cross the road on foot to a second lookout which overlooks the Wailua river as it makes its' way to the ocean.
It is very worthwhile to spend a little time here and easy to get to. In wintertime, the falls will be larger due to more rain up in the mountains. Actually, a rainy day (w/ a break in the rain) can be a very good time to go.

Waterfalls are abundant, but this one is easy to view from a distance and there's another lovely view just across the way (along with the site of scenes from "Outbreak" base on what I overheard from a tour guide). There are some other pretty lookouts as well, and you're right by Wailua River. Close to the airport, too.

Several tourists come to the lookout. It's a great view and when you cross the road you get an awesome view of the Wiamea River.

The falls are really beautiful and surrounded by greenery. You can't get too close but its quite nice seeing it from afar in its natural setting. There is a carpark and restrooms at the lookout, and you pass a heiau nearby on the drive there, which is nice to see.

After we left while Leah falls we continued along on the road and found the sign for these waterfalls. You park in designated parking lot bigger than the one for Wailua, and walk up the path to the overpass. Easy walk and view☺️

You catch the road off the highway in Lihue. It is quite a ride through an unspectacular back road. It has 2 very large waterfall stream and you are on a bridge and get terrific pictures. There is a big pond of water at the bottom and I've seen hikers/swimmers swimming in this area. Parking is available but too few spaces. It is truly worth the ride of about 15 miles to and from the highway.

We've been to Kauai three other times and for whatever reason never made it to the Opaekaa falls. This time we did and were surprised how beautiful it was. The drive to it wasn't as bad as we thought but the parking was something less then I had expected. You have to turn around in a small area to go back out the way you came in.
We stayed there for probably ten minutes but those ten minutes were taking pictures and filming the falls because of the soothing sounds which we all know is good for the soul.

Took a tour but was just down the road from hotel. Nice viewing area of falls and park below. All of Kauai is beautiful, island with most accessible water falls.

Absolutely gorgeous! Nice parking with bathrooms and short walk to view the falls. Worth the time and its free!

Well the views are best for water fall on the island. Great little easy to get to stop. Parking is free and very ample.

During our Waimea Canyon tour we stopped and took pictures of these beautiful waterfalls. Rumor has it they were used during the filming of the 80s show Fantasy Island.

The best view of the falls is a short walk from the parking area next to the road. The viewing area is a good distance from the falls. The falls have three distinct cascades. Just across the highway (use the crosswalk) there is a good view of the Wailua River.

Unusual for Kauai, this spectacular waterfall is visible from a roadside stop and completely free. It is majestic and very very beautiful. Well worth the short drive.

We were up VERY early, even before the sun came up! Good thing my husband is an early riser! We loved the beautiful Falls couldn’t have had a more gorgeous sight to view. This was a quick stop, but worth it. Oh, so beautiful ❤️

We went in the evening. It was great. We had the place to ourselves. It was awesome. Great view and just awesome Kauai.

Well, for a rest stop, it might be one of the most beautiful! There was plenty of parking at 10am on a Saturday. There are restrooms in the parking lot area, but they didn't have any soap or paper towels.
The waterfalls were pretty far from the road look out, but still visible. There was a lookout on the other side of the street where you could see the Wailua River. We saw several people in kayaks below.
This is a quick and easy stop for new people who have never been to the island, if you are heading north of Lihue.

If you're around, check out this waterfall just for the view. Not a whole lot to do other than that, so take a few awesome pictures and you'll be satisfied!

Another stunning water fall that can be seen with little to no effort. Plenty of parking. Some overgrowth but can appreciate falls from a few different angles.

Went on an excursion. One of the dullest one. Maybe waterfalls are not my thing. Lots of greenery. But I like flowers.

We drove to this area to see the falls. We enjoyed the scenery along the ride. You could see the falls from the parking area beside the road. You could along the edge for different vantage points and cross the road to see the river there. We enjoyed seeing the white tailed tropic bird which was closer than we've been able to see so far. My grandchildren are good at spotting the lizards in the vegetation and could name at least three varieties. The local flowers were very pretty along the walk.

Easy stop right off the road to view these Falls. Adequate parking with a short paved path to view the falls from. Just a few minutes is all you need to add this to your waterfall sightseeing!

The falls are fairly high but the actual amount of volume is small. The valley views on both sides of the road are very nice. Worth a quick look compared to other sites in the area.

From the parking area along the road you have a nice view of the falls, although not so spectacular compared to other waterfalls in Hawaii.
By the way, I found the view from the parking area across the road, towards the river and the sea, nice.

This waterfall was nice. But it wasn't as good as Wailua waterfall . One can view from the road, but the waterfall is ways off. Not able to get close.

I would say this is worth a stop. It is a short drive from Wailua. Are total visit time was 10 minutes. Bring a long lens for your camera as the falls are a ways from the parking lot. A short walk along the rode and you can get a second, but nice view of the Wailua river valley.

The waterfalls of Kauai are all beautiful. Very calming and peaceful. You can get some great photos. Not hard to get too or very crowded.

This was my second visit to these falls, and it was even better than last year simply because it was a bit less crowded. It had rained earlier, which caused the crossing point on the Wailua River to rise and rage quite a bit, so many people chose to turn back. Anyway, the size of my tour group was average, and when we arrived, there were no other groups there. There was a period of about 30 minutes of bliss as I sat alone in the refreshingly-cool pool, just watching the angel birds flying around the waterfall. I will return here every trip.

This was an easy stop and no hiking. You can cross the road and see a pretty valley and Hawaiian village & river also.

we stopped here for about 15 minutes, took some pictures and were off again. The view is nice but it´s rather crowded and the falls were not really that impressive. At least not today

The falls are pretty, we didn’t get very close but from our vantage point it was enough and we got some excellent photos. You are also very close, on the other side of the road, to looking down over the Wailua River which was a bonus. 360 degrees scenery and we had lovely weather as well.

The Opaekaa Fall scenic overlook is well worth the stop. It is only about 2 miles up highway 580 from the main road highway 56. Always seems to be parking available when we drive by. The overlook for the falls is right next to the parking and is interesting but not spectacular. Walking just a 100 yards further and crossing 580 in the cross walk you get really pretty views of the Wailua River. Worth the 10 minute bypass as you travel up or down highway 56.

The falls had three areas of falling water, which is pretty good for a drought period.
The falls are at a distance so need good lens or ability to enlarge picture. Crosswalk over the road gives excellent view of the Wailua River. Nice scenic trip for all ages.

Stopped here after going to Wailua Falls. Not as good, but still easy to get to. The falls itself are kinda far from the parking/walkway, so like other people have said having a good lens is needed. Only spent maybe 5 mins here. Also stopped right across the road to see the Wailua River view. Could definitely do on a rainy day like we did. If you don't have much time, I think you could skip over these falls.

We love waterfalls including this one. Only problem is you can't get real close. Have to view from outlook. Worth the quick stop. View across the street is wonderful as well.

From the Kuhio Hwy at the Wailua River stop light, turn inland on S580. Falls are clearly marked and there is some parking. Watch yourself as the S580 crosses between the falls and a Wailua River overlook. Lots of traffic but great views.

Not much to it, drive up to the overlook parking lot, get out, walk a few feet to the railing and enjoy the view. Not a bad view, just wish you could get a little closer.
Plenty of chickens running about too.

We were told to come by thru a recommendation. The waterfalls had double spouts of water churning thru the cliffs, one was actually coming through the rocks. You can't get really close up, but there are plenty of photo opportunities.

If you visit Wailua Falls you are only minutes from Opaekaa Falls. It is worth the extra time to drive and see the falls as on the other side of the road you can look down at the Wailua River.

These waterfalls are nearby Wailua. I won't say that they are not beautiful or waste of time, but yeah there are so many amazing & breathtaking places in Hawaii, this one is kinda average !

Opaek'a Falls is a 151-footwaterfall that is located about two miles up Kuamoo Road (Route 580) from Hwy. 56. Follow the signs, pull-off the road and enjoy the view. There used to be a path that led to the bottom of the falls to the pool below. But, this has been closed after two women fell to their deaths. However, there are supposedly secret paths to the pool that are officially unsanctioned by the State of Hawaii. If you look for them, please be careful!
So, bring your camera and enjoy the view! BTW, it's free!

Really the easiest of falls to visit while on Kauai. It is off the road, with easy parking; you just have to be patient and a spot will open up as people leave. The legends behind it are quite interesting.

The waterfall is nice but be sure to cross the street to see the beautiful view. Nice photo opportunity!

This is quick stop right next to the parking lot. The waterfall is pretty if you go across the street you have pretty view of river

There is zero hiking. Find a spot to park, if you're lucky, and get out of your car walk to the overlook and see a beautiful fall.

When you find yourself traveling on North on Hwy 56 be sure to turn left onto Hwy 520 and go see this waterfall with lots of pretty colors and lush greens all around.

This waterfall is beautiful. It's farther away then you think, and left a lot to be desired. Also a hot spot for large tourist buses and it gets crowded fast. Hit or miss.
DO: go across the street to the lookout over the river valley - cool views.

Opaekaa Falls is a short drive off the main highway and convenient to the parking area. Beautiful scenery and falls.

Beautiful falls in the distance, but then again, everywhere you turn in Kauai is beautiful! Very easy to get to. Easy stop - don’t miss it!

The falls are lovely and it's easy access because you are able to park and walk a short distance to an overlook. It was not too busy when we arrived, though people stream in and out quickly. We took our time and crossed the road to see an unbelievable view of the valley below. This is definitely not something to miss!

Went on a van tour, and one of our stops was the Opaekaa Falls. The falls are okay, but the observation point is so far away, that there's really nothing spectacular about them. However, when you cross the road and look down into the valley, with the Wailua River running through it....now that's spectacular. Definitely worth the stop, and great photo ops on that side.

Went here after going to Wailua Falls. This is neat, however, the viewing station is very far away. Just across the street on the way up is the Wailua river. Not as good as Wailua, but if you're in the area, take 15 minutes and swing by.

Even though we can't get close to these Falls, the scene is gorgeous. Mountains in the background, birds flying down in the valley by the falls. It's a quick, easy stop.

Very beautiful waterfall, easy to get to. Parking can be a challenge on a busy day. If you are adventurous, you can go around the fence & hike down to the base of the waterfall.
Amazing views & pictures here!

This is just a short drive off the main high road and well worth your time. Always a good photo op although I think you'll get your better photo's in the morning when your not looking into the sun.

The falls are nice, and easy to get to right near the street and parking lot. But they are fair distance away, so it's not really something to go out of your way for.

There's nothing special about this waterfall. It's a convenient view since it's only 1.5 miles inland. Plus, we were already passing by to go to Kamokila so we stopped for a few photos.
After seeing the Secret Falls, this was super underwhelming. I guess if you've never seen a waterfall before, or you're short on time, this could be worthwhile. I wouldn't go out of your way to see this though. It looks just like the photos.

We made a quick detour to the waterfalls. There was adequate parking with restrooms. Then it was a quick shuffle off to the viewing area. The falls was farther away than Wailua falls, but beautiful. We also had a view of the Wailua River and the Smiths River Boat Cruise. Easy to do, but maybe not a "must do".

Nice waterfall with a lot of traffic. White tropicbirds flew from the surrounding cliffs. Can continue down the road to the arboretum or monastery to fill out a morning.

We're a little far away but we can take a nice photo
On the other side of the road, a beautiful view of the river

We knew Kauai had a lot of waterfalls but we couldn’t hike to many. We found out this one was visible from the road so decided to take the turnoff you get there. It’s just a 2 mile detour.
It is a really pretty fall. It’s 150 feet and wide so it’s very easy to see from the lookout.
If you cross the street you can also get a lovely view of the Wailua River.

If in the area and you have some spare time, do the Wailua Heritage Trail that stops at a number of sites and includes the Opaekaa Falls. The day we went there was plenty of parking, but note you only see from a distance but they are quite pretty.

This was part of our shore excursion as we traveled around by bus. We had brief stop here for a photo op. Very easy to get to. Just a few steps from the parking lot. Scenery is great here. There was more across the street that we did not get to see. Doesn't take a lot of time here to see what is here. The drive up was nice also. It was a clear day so no issues with visibility.

It's really cool to watch the thousands of gallons of waterfalls to our over as a distinct flow of multiple waterfalls

This attraction may get lost in the many natural wonders of the beautiful island of Kauai, but it's easily accessible and really nice.

These falls are very easy to see; basically you drive to the location, park your car, walk a short distance and see the falls. Highly recommend for those with mobility issues.

Easy 2 mile drive, OK parking and fine photo opportunities. Make sure you cross road, at crosswalk, to see river views.

This is a look out stop on the side of the road . Washrooms available. You are a distance away but if you are not up to hiking , it is a lovely alternative. Remember to cross the road to see a view of the winding Wailua River and the kayaks headed to the secret falls.

If you are on the east side of the island this is only 2 miles off the highway. Make sure to make the effort and check out this beautiful scenic waterfall!

You just have to travel a few miles up highway 580 and off to your left you can park and there is a lookout for the falls. The falls do sit back a little but you can get great pictures here. If you walk across the street you can see the Wailua River.

I can't believe people are giving these waterfalls high ratings. Maybe if you're from Kansas and never seen water falling this might seem remotely interesting. The falls are way off the main road, very small, not particularly attractive, and the look-out area is rather far away from the falls. The best thing about this area are the two picnic tables, restrooms, and feeding the wild chickens across the road.

This was on my ride up to the Hindu Monastery so I had to stop off. There's a sign for a turn off for the falls and a nice sized parking lot. You can also walk across the street to view the sites down the Wailua river valley to the ocean. It's really quite the view!

The falls are just spectacular it can be clear. Muddy. Huge. Split. Loud. White. Serene. Rainy. Rainbows. And more.
Just standing there watching millions of gallons of water roar off the cliff and knowing the falls never stop is just an amazing sign of nature
Parking is easy as people are coming and going all day. Just drive to the end and wait for someone to get in their car. Do not panic for early parking.
Sometimes there are vendors selling banana bread or jewlery or straw hats. But at your risk. But they are just islanders trying to make a buck. So help them out if you can.
When you cut off the main highway it is about a 15 min drive. So just keep going. You will get there.

Nice falls, easy to access even if handicap, was a lot of water coming down the day we were there. Wife was in a mobility scooter and didn't have any problems.

What beautiful views of a gorgeous set of waterfalls! We recommend making sure you see the falls from afar and up close if possible. Some of the air tours will show it to you from a small plane!

This is an easy stop and worth a look if you are creating a waterfall tour of the island. Parking is easy and accessible and it is definitely a beautiful view. The people seem to cycle through quickly.

Killed some time on our way south by taking a little side trip to view these falls.
Plenty of parking and a good viewpoint. Locals selling trinkets, coconuts, etc. Enjoyable little side trip.

Just drive up and park not much walking to see the falls. Safe for family with young kids. It’s a sidewalk you view the falls from several hundred feet above. No worry of getting wet or slipping. Honestly it was not my sort of thing but the falls are beautiful so to each there own!

Very easy access. Just few minutes along the Wailua River and very close to HWY 56 which is the main road between Lihue and Kapaa. You aren't very close to the falls, but it's an easy site to see with a good amount of parking.

Triple falls, visible from the road. Easy to get to and see. A bit of a let down actually. Not sure if you could hike to the bottom.

The falls are beautiful. You can't get up close and personal but, they are a sight to see even from a far. Worth the drive.

This falls is taller than you realize, but you are far away at the roadside viewing spot. It is pretty and worth seeing, but the thrill factor can be over rated. The whole island is worth seeing.

This is an easy falls to get to and photograph. Nice parking area with facilities. Short walk to best photo spot. Can even cross the street to take great pic of river and island interior.

You can't really get up close but definitely beautiful. Across the way is a place you can pay to hike or canoe that's cool. Kinda pricey but worth it if you like that kinda thing.

It is worth the trip to see them, very beautiful and above all the viewing area is pleasant, there are accessible bathrooms

We stopped on our drive back from the beach and the falls are pretty. It is definitely not something I get to see when I at home so I don’t take them for granted.
We only stayed 4-5 minutes. Across the street has some great views as well.

If you are going to falls to get a good picture too, note that most of the photos were taken with a zoom lens. The viewing spot is right off the road, behind a low fence.

The Opaekaa falls are beautiful and framed by lush green mountains. The parking is easy to find and the 'walk' to the view spot is under 1 minute. A great, easy, convenient thing to do while in Kauai- a must see!

We took a quick stop here and it was beautiful. Something quick to see if you have time. You just park and you can see it from the parks lot or walk to the overlook. Very beautiful scenery.

Did the Wailua Falls? You get to see that a lot closer where this lookout point is. Easy to get to but more like a backdrop at a distance. There is ample parking and restrooms. Pretty! Maybe spent 20 mins here..

This is a pretty spot a couple miles West of the town of Wailua. On one side of the road are the views of the falls, and then walking 50 yards and crossing the road you have panoramic views down into the Wailua river. There is a paved parking lot and decent restrooms, as this appears to be a favorite spot for bus tours to stop.

We drove a few miles out of our way to visit these falls. Honestly, it wasn't worth it. You can't get very close to the falls, they are not that big, and there are lots of better falls on the island.

Very easy to get to with a small parking lot. The falls are beautiful but are quite a way from the lookout, so if you want pics, take your long lense. Doesn't take more than a few minutes, but hey, it's a waterfall on Kauai, so of course it's worth it!

easy access, good parking, good facilities, quite busy with shuttles and buses. Seems a popular spot, close to the hawaiian village. Great views.

It’s just ok. Big, but it’s far away from where you can stand to see it. Pull off Kuamo’o road with the other busses and rental cars and maneuver a place to stand and view it across the valley.

Beautiful Falls with a quick on / off the road parking view. Also has restrooms available should you need them

The parking was definately a challenge, but manageable, and we were not able to get very close, but close enough to our VRBO that worth the trip.

Our tour group stopped to see the falls and also to use the rest rooms near where we parked. This was after our visit to Fern Grotto. My wife wrote in her journal, "Next we went to Opaekaa Falls, which were triple falls. More fancy chickens today--at the marina and the falls' park."

Nice place for photos of the falls at a distance and across the street a view if the river and paddle boarders. Also some viewpoints on the way back down. A great place for close up photos of the local colorful roosters and hens. Don't spend more than ine hour. We included the stop as a short diversion on the way back from Princeville.

Only a few minutes west of Kappa, you are treated to a nice view of the waterfall and the valley surrounding it. Compared to the other spectacular places on Kauai, this was just OK. I would have liked to be closer to the falls but you have to travel there by boat. Maybe on the next trip we can get a closer look.

Super short and easy drive to the falls. Good to do on way from or to airport. Good parking lot and can walk across road to check out the river.

We got a faint rainbow while here at the falls. They falls were not flowing hard since they had not had a good rain for a bit. I also feel like they need to do some tree trimming in order to keep a good view from the lookout. Soon, the trees will block the entire view.
Parking here was easy and plenty of paved parking spots. There was one car here when we arrived and they were leaving as we walked to the falls. No charge for parking or to see the falls.
There is also a public bathroom here. The walk to the falls in short. Make sure you continue on that concrete pathway to the end and cross the HWY to see the Waimea River. There is a pedestrian cross walk to get you safely across the hwy. There are also plenty of chickens in the parking lot:)
This is a fairly short stop. We spent probably 20 minuets here looking at the falls and the river. I would not go out of my way to see this, but if you are in the area, I defiantly would stop. Maybe it is just more impressive with more water flow. So maybe spring and early summer are the best times to visit?

These falls are pretty cool, though the lookout is kind of far away. Maybe not worth a special trip, but good to visit if you'll be in the area.

Drove up to these falls today. It was beautiful and definitely worth the short drive. You can’t get very close but still a pretty sight.

The very short drive is well worth it. Very lush green hills-river below goes up to the fern grotto. Very easy to walk around.

It was really beautiful! There’s a bathroom on site. This is NOT a hike or a long visit, it’s a park and see the falls from afar. Barely any walking required. You’ll spend 5 mins here!

This waterfall is one of the easiest to access on Kauai. There is also a beautiful Walea River view on the opposite side of the road. Take a quick detour from the main road and check this out!

This is an easy access walk from a parking area with room for many cars. You get to see the falls clearly but at a distance as there are really not paths available to get near the falls. Some waterfalls require long hikes, so this is easily accessible on the East coast of Kauai, but the viewing at a distance is the tradeoff. Just manage your expectations and enjoy the view.

Falls can easily be seen from the parking area and is right off the road. It is a beautiful place to stop, although the falls is quite a distance from the road.

We stopped here while visiting the area. The parking area has some space (not a lot) and there is a short walk way to view the falls, which then crosses the street to overlook the Valley. It is scenic and fun to see but if I wasn’t in the area I wouldn’t probably go out of my way for this.

I’ve seen these falls lots of times but seeing them in the rain can give you a different view. Rains are often heavy on Kauai so you can see the red waters in many of the falls. This is a safe and easy one. Just stay up at the turnout to see them. Do not try to climb down in the rain!

Like Wailua Falls, you simply view these from the road but they’re beautiful. Across the street is a wonderful view of the river and surrounding valley.
Make the quick stop!

A short drive from the main highway. The falls and view are nice but not spectacular, especially when compared to what one can see in the Waimea Canyon area.

Beautiful view. Enjoyed the falls. Was nice not to have a hike to see the falls. Great photo opp. also.

A nice view of the falls. It was an easy walk to get to the viewing area. Lots of chickens to enjoy along the way including some newborns.

Plenty of parking with a restroom stop here. You walk alongside the walkway by the falls. There was also a lookout that we drove by on our way in - I can't find the actual name of it, but it overlooked the Wailua River. NOTE: the chickens by this lookout are a little intense lol (there were no chickens by the falls lookout)

The Falls are a short drive from Lihu’e. They are very beautiful and worth the short drive. We did it as an end of the day short trip.

We stopped at the falls, the continued up to the end of the road. You cross a bridge and park in the spacious parking lot. Then walk amongst the rainbow eucalyptus trees. It was a ?university research area once. Lovely stream runs under the bridge, and there a lots of funky spiny orb weaver spiders, on the bridge rails. We enjoyed walking about. Not far is the Kuilau Trail.

Gives you easy access to view two unique things in one easy stop , a beautiful rushing waterfalls and then across the street, the calmness Wailua River valley!
It can get busy as it is such an easy place to visit, as it is beautiful, go early for less crowds!

The view is nice, the panorama too. Too bad it's by the road and you can't go there... But it's in the sightseeing tour so you'll go and it's good.

What an amazing view from just a drive by view point. Very easy location to stop and take a few pictures.

The Opaeka’a Falls are a quick viewpoint and it’s a nice place to stretch your legs. You can cross the street and also check out a view of the Wailua Heritage trail. Very scenic!

First of all, it's convenient. Just north of the Wailua River bridge, it's the first left, I believe. It is totally accessible with free parking on the right, but the lookout is just there and the falls is at a far distance. The double stream, however, is a plus.
Every time I have visited the falls (about three times), however, I am captivated by all the hens and chicks that forage there. I guess those birds just fascinate me.\
Across the street is an overlook to the Wailua River and a settlement you can visit by going down a road just a bit up the road. I haven't visited it yet because it was always too wet for me to handle. There's another overlook a bit downhill from the falls.

Worthwhile visit. Restroom facilities on site. Not much parking available. Don't forget to cross the road for another overlook.

I would have rated this a 5 but the falls were not very close. I’m still glad I went. The view & surroundings were beautiful. It was great to walk across the street to look down on canoe riders going down Wailua river. Parking was pretty good & the walkway was nice.

Another of the many scenic waterfalls on Kauai. Very easy to find, just west of Wailua.
A quick stop, with a good roadies overlook.
Across the road, there is another viewpoint, down into the Wailua River Valley, at a particularly picturesque bend.

We only saw this from the pullover car park quite some distance. It's a quick stop for a picture or two. There were no signs to help us understand if or how we could get closer. It is impressive, and a nice windy drive if you're continuing up north.

These Beautiful waterfalls are very easy access for anyone. There is a long concrete path that allows for ample viewing.

An easy drive to get to the overlook to see the falls. Just a short walk on a sidewalk. There are bathrooms at the parking lot.

Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Very easy to get to with good parking. Easy paved walk to the falls.

Very nice waterfalls with a great viewing area provided. The parking lot is free and there is plenty of parking. There is a sidewalk that walks around the entire lot so that you can get several different views of the falls. There are restrooms on site. The falls are very far in the distance, but closeup views show just how enormous these falls really are. The entire area around this stop is beautiful and you can walk across the street (use the crosswalk!) Wailua Heritage Trail and the Wailua River Valley. Don't skip this little bonus that is less than 500 yards away. No need to move the car, just walk across the street for the view.

The falls themselves are not overwhelming (3 star) and are a bit far form viewing platform, but the canyon/gorge is very nice (4 star), and on way there, an overlook has nice interpretive signs and remains of an old Hawaiian temple, with of course lots of chickens and other birds. It is an easy drive from Wailua on Hwy 580.

Quick 10 minute stop got restrooms in a nice scenic overlook. Definitely worth the five minutes off the beaten path to see it. Beautiful waterfalls.

A short drive off the main drag and, if you're looking to burn half an hour or so, it's probably worth a look. Not particularly large or stunning.

There is a great pullout across the valley from this falls. Line of sight to the falls is a good distance, so if you want to photograph it, you should use a telephoto about 200mm or better. Shoot in the morning for the best light.

This is one of many beautiful waterfalls in Kauai. There is a nice picnic park next to the water falls. The usual managerie of chickens fill the park. The falls are really the only attraction in the immediate area. It is worth a stop, but not overwhelming. Continue on the road and explore the upland a little bit. There is a very unusual Hindu Sacred Forest upland from the falls about 4 miles. I really enjoyed the walk through the forest. Not many people find the forest. Just as well, as it keeps it more meditative.

The pictures don't do this justice, but do not go out of your way to see this. It's a quick roadside turn out and a 5 minute stop at most. Anticlimactic really, compared to other falls on the island.

Beautiful view easy access to waterfall would recommend. Does get busy with tour buses recommend early AM

We visited on a rainy morning. It was actually perfect for us (with kid in tow) as we didn’t have to walk much in the rain and got to see something pretty. Yes it is far away but we were not in a position to hike so it worked for us. Due to the rain the falls were pretty big. Parking is easy and the path is nicely sectioned off so you don’t have to worry about the passing cars as you viewed the falls. We were excited to see the Hawaiian White Tern flying in the area. Beautiful bird and beautiful scenery. Recommend crossing the street to see the view down the Wailua River. You can see kayakers, the Hawaiian Village and the Smith Family River boats in the beautiful vegetation.

This is a beautiful waterfall to see in Kauai with easy car parking and no arduous hiking to get there. If you simply want to stop by and see a lovely waterfall and get some great photos, without a workout, then this is the waterfall for you.

Nice view of falls. Parking off the road. Falls is best after a rain. Walk along sidewalk to obtain a variety of views. Stop on the way to or back from North Shore.

lots of parking here and a nice but far away view of falls. a very pretty setting with nice greenery

The falls are a stunning view as are the views from across the road of River and mountains. There is ample parking if you are driving, and this stop may be part of your bus tour if you are taking a tour. This stop is.near fern grotto.
The rest rooms are available, but are bare bones.

This is a quick stop but worth it. Lots of parking, minimal walking and easy access. The waterfall is beautiful. Good spot to take some pictures.

A short drive up the road by Coco Palms is a very scenic waterfall. It is in the Wailua River Park. It is a 151 foot falls, flows over basalt from volcanic eruption millions of years ago. Nice parking space, bathrooms available. Also across the road a very nice view of the Wailua River.

With all the other beauty on the island the waterfalls are just average. Good for a five minute jaunt up road from main highway. Good parking and easy for picture taking.

This is probably the most beautiful double waterfall that is readily accessable in Kauai.
We saw hikers swimming in the water where the beautiful falls fall into the water. Parking can be difficult if the area is really crowded. We found a young man selling banana and pineapple bread with mac nuts and coconuts as topping. We tried one of each at $5 and they were absolutely delicous as a bonus for the trek. I believe this falls was the backdrop for the former TV program "Fantasy Island". Add to your bucket list. You will get wonderful pictures.

This was a really quick stop as you just pull off to the side of the road and look at it from a distance. I am not sure if you can even hike to it. It may not be as close or as big as some of the other waterfalls on the island, but it is one of the easiest and fastest to view. You might as well stop and look while you are out and about. It is very charming and guaranteed to have a crowd.

Like most of the waterfalls on this Island you can't get real close to them. I think you might be able to get closer via kayak but not sure. These falls were very pretty.

We stopped by here and took some pictures of the falls. Parking is good and there is a restroom. There are chickens everywhere. We had fun feeding them some chips. Walk across the street and you can see the river.

We went to see these falls as part of a “Hollywood movies in Hawaii “ tour. Cannot believe how many movies were made here. What was really neat is seeing the movies clips on the van showing the action in the falls. Very neat experience,

We journeyed with a guide through Kauai Kayaks, a 2 mile paddle up the Wiamea River and a one and a half mile hike to the base of Opaeka'a (Secret) Falls. The trip took about five hours; our guide, TC, and this little dog Yoda, were great tour hosts and the destination is lovely and spectacular. Highly recommended trip for families, including kids roughly 6 and older.

Yes, the state could help this be more stunning if some of the trees were taken down. Otherwise, it was worth viewing, but we saw many other more exceptional falls on the island.

Another short stop that us worth your time. It will only take you about 5 minutes to jump out of your car and get a great view and picture of the Falls. The scenery is breathtaking. There is a handy place to park that also has bathrooms.

Easy and quick to visit another beautiful waterfall on Kauai.Off the 56 take the 580 near Lydgate State Park to the Falls. There is a clearly marked sign. Depending upon the rainfall it may be a little disappointing. There are restroom facilities in the area.

Parking wasn't bad, I'm sure it can be hard on a busy day. You can't get very close, you can only view the falls from a distance. The little walkway you take pictures at can get pretty crowded.

Drove here in December. Nice view and parking was good. Easy to get to from Lihue area. Lookout for roosters in parking lot. Falls were decent size due to recent rainy weather.

Opaekaa Falls is a nice waterfall. However, the lookout point is further away than others on the island, so it is harder to get really nice photos. On the other side of a busy road, there is a very nice view of the Wailua River. Honestly, these photos were better than the waterfall.
If you were going to choose one waterfall around Wailua to see, choose Wailua Falls over Opaekaa Falls. There is nothing wrong with Opaekaa, but it doesn't quite stack up to the rest of the spots we saw. If time isn't a concern, by all means stop here.

These falls are so close to Kapaa and parking is ample so is well Worth going to see these falls if on the east coast.

This site is a safe bet for those with mobility issues. There is a small parking lot you pull into and you can see the falls from there. It's free so you can't beat that.

I am going to give this a five and not a four because hey, it’s a waterfall and a peaceful experience, even though you are pretty far away to view it.
This is pretty easy to get to and right off the highway at a fairly large parking lot with clean bathrooms. There is a very short walkway to get out to see the falls.
Unfortunately, you are really standing pretty much on the two lane highway to get your photos and the best view of the falls. It is also a lot farther away viewing-wise compared to Wailua Falls so you’ll need to zoom in. There is a crosswalk, and when you go across the street there is a beautiful scenic lookout over the river that is worth viewing (no falls). Just be very aware of oncoming traffic.

We drove there this past Sunday. Parking is free and plentiful after a short drive from the main road. There are restrooms available.
This is FREE.
The falls are just spectacular. Just across the road is the Wailua River with some beautiful scenery.
Don't miss this spot.

Kauai Revealed Book says this fall is hidden by trees. This is true, however it is a very beautiful waterfall in a garden-like canyon. Don't miss it. It is only a short Drive from the main road.

Very accessible. Lots of parking. Use caution while exiting- just do the normal thing and look left right left and have patience if traffic is a bit high. Not an overwhelming problem, just exercise common sense, and you will experience yet another beautiful feature that Kauai has to offer. This island is truly a paradise. Enjoy its pristine environment before it succumbs to tourism like the big island. Can't turn back the clock...............

Easy drive up as it us just off the road. Worth taking the drive. If you are going to the falls take the time to tour Kamokila as the turn off is handy. Kamokila is a recreated Hawaiian village and we found it really interesting. Road down is a bit rough so take care.

My wife and I visited the waterfalls as part of a Holland America shore excursion. This was 1 of 3 sites we visited on this excursion. The weather was not the greatest, with significant rainfall. Not the prettiest day. But the falls are viewed from quite a distance, and with all of the rain, very impressive. We did not spend a lot of time there. There was a restroom at the parking lot. I would not rush back to these falls.

This is a nice set of waterfalls right off the road across the street from the Wailua River overlook. The falls can easily be seen from the parking area. Anyone, even someone with a physical disability can see these falls with little difficulty.

We visited this waterfall whilst in Kauai. You can see most of it from the road side. I believe there is a hiking route to it but we did not do that due to time constraints

Pretty waterfall easily visible from the road with ample parking space to stop and take pictures. I am told there is a way to get down the the waterfall pool, but we didn't find it. On the other side of the road you can see the river and you can watch kayakers venture down the river.

Nice falls with lush settings, it is a bit distant but good views and easy parking access from the road.
Make a quick stop if you ever pass by.

Nice drive up to Opaekaa Falls and a good photo opportunity. You will be glad you were there and then the drive includes more. Plus it is a good bathroom break for those who need one.
Nice view of the falls, but you can't get too close, at least not without a hike or kayaking. Still, well worth getting off the main road and stopping. Also good to go to Kamokila Hawaiian Village while in the neighborhood.
