Don’t ask to revisit a wine

By KCP2007 |

We went as a group of 6 in March 2018. Our hostess was vibrant, but bordered on rudeness when she insulted Randy Dunn, a Napa pioneer. My husband does not enjoy white wines and did not taste them during the tour. When he asked to revisit one of the reds, the hostess took her glass that she had been drinking out of and poured it into my husbands glass. Needless to say, he did not drink anymore. For a $100 tour and tasting fee, if you ask to revisit one wine, it should be gladly offered. Everyone in our group was so offended. When I contacted the owner, excuses were given instead of a resolution or an apology.

Excellent Family-Owned Winery

By Kristi J |

We cannot say enough about our visit to Palmaz on our last trip to Napa. It appears that Palmaz is the only true 100% gravity-flow winery in Napa, and it is also one of the oldest. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of both the property's history and the wine making process. The wines are excellent and a phenomenal value for the quality. We even met one of the Palmaz family members while we were doing a tasting after the tour, and she let us have some of an unreleased Cedar Knoll vintage to provide some tasting notes. This was our favorite stop on our last trip to Napa.

I can’t say enough good things about Palmaz!

By IM Doe |

Wow! Our visit to Palmaz was unbelievable. Great wines, great tasting, great service. Trey was our guide and he made sure we were very well taken care of! His insights, hospitality and recommendations really helped shape our experience in Napa in the best way. The tour was great, informative but not stuffy. The grounds were beautiful and I can’t even begin to speak on how impressive the novel, data driven approach to winemaking is.

Great Unique Private Tour

By go_julia |

We had a very great time at this unique and posh vine tour. The vinery offers great hill top views and boasts a five-leveled cellar. Would definitely recommend it.

WOW~ What a winery.

By Lesley W |

Jordan was our gracious host who was both informative and witty :) We enjoyed our private tour and was amazed at the attention to detail, sophistication and elegance of the winery. Our tasting portion was wonderful and the wines were top shelf. (small bites were delicious).....Look forward to recommending to friends. Thanks Jordan for a great day~ Lesley and Rob - Toronto

Interesting but a bit arrogant

By Yesheyozhik |

Overpriced tour. Nice facility, well laid out, high tech but wines are over priced. Drinkable but nothing special. Would not go back. Lots of better wines for one third the prices, like Kennifeck Ranch.

Lovely vineyard

By Travelingbear1000 |

For science and wine lovers alike, this is quite an impressive place to visit. While I am not a red wine lover, the place was still quite fun and the food was fabulous.

Sate of the Art Tour and Great Wine

By Cordon J |

My wife and I spent a morning here. The views are to die for in Coombsville AVA. Off the beat track, the history, the thought that went into the building this winery and the wine them self is worth it. Reservations are required and after the tour of this state of the art winery had a private sitting. Our associate was Jordan and was very knowledgable. We join them member club before it closed. If you are tired of the Hwy. 29 track, try this place in Coombsville AVA.

Amazing experience.

By LLJohnson5 |

This winery and tour was an amazing experience. If you have to do one educational tour, this is it. What they do here is mind blowing. The tour is expensive but worth every penny. Jordan was our host and he was so knowledgable and very accommodating. We were so impressed by the wine that we became members. If you are in Napa, this is a must.

By Far The Best!

By Mark A. |

As the title reads, "By Far The Best!"
This is the ultimate vineyard/winery. The couple we went with are club members of Palmaz, so we received preferred treatment. Geordy was our host. He is the perfect guy for the position!
The winery is state-of-the art. The wines are all wonderfully balanced and delicious.
We loved this place so much that we became members.
Looking forward to not only returning to Palmaz, but to begin receiving our scheduled wine shippments.
Love this place!!!

Really Interesting Winery Tour

By Cindy K |

Our tour guide today, Jordan, was terrific. He was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and fun to spend two hours with. We saw every aspect of the operation, heard about the history of the property and learned all about winemaking. Truly a delightful few hours. Price of the tour well worth it. Highly recommend. This is off the beaten track, impeccably maintained, wonderful people and a true Napa experience not to be missed.

I can't rate this place high enough!!!

By Molly H |

Not only is this property AMAZING, the wine is fantastic. This property is so unique for the fact that they dug into the mountain and created the size of a Costco. There are 5 levels, and an entrance on every level. The family is so involved in every part of the vineyard. The technology is amazing. Unlike anything you have ever seen. The tasting experience is not to be missed. The food is beautifully prepared and deliecious. The wine is the icing on the cake. The Cab! Don't even get me started on the Muscat that I didn't even know I liked! DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! And ask for Lucas. He has grown up, a wine boy, in Napa and he knows the history, he knows wine, and he loves his job. Enjoy!

Outstanding wine, unbelievable science.

By TexTraveller78 |

This winery is truly a scientific marvel. Well worth the $60 tour/taste fee. Not only do you get a personal tour of this incredible facility with one of the Palmaz family members, you also get to taste their truly stellar wines. Their personal approach to building relationships is refreshing.

Blown Away!

By Anish S |

As you can see from the reviews, this is an amazing place.
Grounds:
- When you are at the gate, you have to call 'em to be let in. The drive up to the 'lobby' is a really nice drive. I should have turned on my camera and recorded it. You drive through the vineyards up to their 'lobby' area. It's also a great spot to take pictures while you wait for your host/'tour guide'.
Tour:
- Note that you can only visit this place with a reservation and tour. The tour is not cheap, $100 a person but it's a great experience if you are looking to tour. You start at the front entrance, walk up to the restaurant area/deck where you get your first tasting and a history lesson on the property. You also get some amazing views of the surrounding area since you are already on the mountain and on top of the building. They take you from outside to inside, where you get to see their world class set up - the amount of money they have invested in technology and how they use it to make their wine. You finally end in a dining room with some finger food and final set of tastings. Note that only one glass is poured at the patio and the rest you get when you sit down at the table. The tour is truly about understanding how palmaz operates, which is very different than all other vineyards.
Diana was our 'tour guide'. She's very knowledgeable and was great but at times she was very cocky.
Wine:
- The wine is amazing. It's expensive but truly great. We are not wine club people but we did sign up for their wine club so that we could buy their wine at a cheaper rate. We loved their cab though some of my family members ended up buying their rose and white wine.

Lastly, we set up the tour for a bday in the group. When making the reservation, we had informed them of that. Rather than making a big deal bout it, they were very elegant about it. When we got to the dinning table for the remaining wine tasting, they had personalized menu cards with her name on it and wishing her happy b'day.

Loved this place. Would love to go back again though the cost of tour makes it a tough pill to swallow. However, I'll happily continue to drink their wine!

Amazing winery

By Eric L |

Definitely quite a unique place! The cave and wine making room were sites to be seen and there is a beautiful view from the rooftop terrace. The tour itself was a little long... 2 hours with all of the wine served in the last 15 minutes. The first hour+ were stories about the vineyard and family history, which could have been cut down to about 10 minutes.

Modern way to make wine

By LaViajeraSolitaria |

Pros:
*they use the newest technology to make wine
*winery is impeccably clean
*we took a 2 hour tour and tasting for $65.
*beautiful scenery
*great wine!

No Cons!!

Beautiful grounds. Excellent wine. Hi tech cave. Nice tour guide Tray!

By Marilisse |

Private exclusive tour in the most impressive caves. It s expensive bit you won t regret it. The place is fantastic.

Fantastic Experience

By Corinne E |

We had a wonderful visit to Palmaz. The wine was spectacular and Jordan, our host, was knowledgeable, engaging, and welcoming. We can't wait to go back!

A Total Commitment to Excellence

By Alan L |

While the wines are beyond my price point, it was wonderful to visit and see a winery that has a total commitment to excellence when it comes to creating great wine. If you know something about wine making and want to see a world class operation, this is the place to visit. And, the views are spectacular from the terraces!

Fantastic Experience

By goodwineandtravel |

Recently booked a private tour and tasting of Palmaz - WOW !! We were fortunate to have Christian, one of the owners as our guide. The winemaking process here is beyond high tech. It is hard to describe how futuristic everything seemed. The tour was very in-depth and they are very passionate about their winemaking. The tour itself was awesome. But, then we still had a private tasting, complete with food pairings. The room was elegant and the wines were exquisite. AS they do NOT take walk-ins, this is well worth reserving a private tasting. Much different than anything else you will see in Napa.

Fabulous, luxurious tour!

By Lauren R |

Phenomenal guide with so much history and education. We got to try grapes from the vine and then had the most incredible tasting and pairing! Well worth the stop!

Great Winery

By Ambika S |

We had an great experience here at the winery, with excellent wine and pairings, interesting cave and technology.

Amazing Wine(ry)

By Joe F |

My wife and I visited Palmaz during a recent trip to Napa. Wow!! The property is secluded with spectacular views and it got better from there. We did the private tour option. Nick was our Ambassador and did a great job showing us the winery and taking us through the wine tasting. The winery is a fascinating place - combining traditional wine making techniques with cutting edge technology. And the food pairings really enhanced the wine tasting experience but highlighted the importance of pairings when selecting a wine for a meal. Nick's approach was solid one as well - a good wine is any wine you enjoy no matter type, price, vintage, etc. This was a great experience overall and a wonderful place to enjoy really terrific wines.

A palatable experience

By lauriec451 |

The topography is breathtaking. I don't remember ever being at a more beautiful place. I felt like I was in Europe. Jordan our guide was there to greet us. He was incredible. So extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and fun to spend our morning with. I was impressed at how clean the winery is. It was immaculate. And now the wine....Unlike a tasting I have ever experienced a private room with the wines poured, and paired with food. The room was beautiful. The food delicious. And the wine....incredible. Jordan explained each wine and pairing. He was amazing. We loved ever bit of our experience there. So much, that we joined their wine club. Can't wait for our first shipment. Don't miss this experience.

Excellence At Its Finest!

By Keith S |

The moment we arrived at the gate, we knew this tasting was going to be amazing.
Eduardo Gutierrez was extremely knowledgeable of the Palmaz family legacy, the property, their wines and production. Our tastings were paired with a sampling of wonderful hors d'oeuvres.
Thank You!
Chef Keith Sadanaga

Fantastic tour with a fantastic host!

By Ksenia Kiparis |

Jordan was our host for the tasting in August 2019. A bit off season, it added to the quality of a private tour, as we were able to see the estate and the winemaking process hi-techs without any crowds or interruptions. Most impressed with the engineering thought put behind every detail in the mountain made into a winery. The flight included most senstational and not "too Oaky" Chardonnay, 2013, 2015 Cabernets, and a delightful dessert wine, all of which were paired beautifully with a variety of cheeses, dark chocolate and other hors d'oeuvres. Jordan was knowledgeable, articulate and informative. Lots of laughs and good energy. Absolute highlight of our Napa trip. Thank you Palmaz Vineyards!

Fantastic winery. GREAT overview of what and how they do things. Excellent wines.

By Chief1797 |

I have NEVER been to a working location that was this clean. It was absolutely immaculate every where we went or saw. Floors, walls, equipment. The grounds were beautiful and well manicured. From the upper level, there is a fantastic view. Our guide for the tour was Lucas, who is considered to be an Estate Ambassador and was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful as we toured the facility. He then guided our group to an enclosed wine tasting room where we sampled the product and ate some of the canapes prepared for us. As we did Lucas explained more about the grounds, the history of Palmaz Wines and how they came to be. Ambassador was a good title for him as he is very proud of what his company does and the wines they offer and it shows in his presentation. The wines by the way were excellent and we all had fun indulging as he educated us on what we were drinking and how it was prepared.
If you are trying to decide which vineyard to visit, put them on your list. We saw a few and have seen others and this was the best of them all.

A Great Place to spend/learn about wine making.

By hdhatp |

The Palmaz family has done a wonderful job and creating this experience. The guide we had was very knowledgeable about the winery and the wine experience. Showing the extent that technology has integrated with the wine industry..... amazing too say the least. Wine presentation was excellent. A GREAT afternoon.

One of the most fascinating wineries and stories!

By DanZ734 |

This is off the beaten path and really close to downtown Napa. The history of the property and what it has become today is so interesting. One of the coolest wineries I have ever seen! Lucas was our host and he did a great job! Really friendly and so knowledgeable! The Palmaz family really has made something special in this location and they have some of the best wines made today! If you can make it the private tour is well worth the time and money!

Really loved this spot!

Save the Best for Last?

By Vicky D |

I have no words to describe Palmaz Winery. Reservations are required for a tasting and it is well worth the tasting fee! The scenery is spectacular. Adrian was our tour guide and perfectly explained the unique method of Palmaz wine-making. No expense was spared in creating this gravity-based wine operation. And the wines happen to be superb!

Only wine tour from this week out of about a dozen I know I will return to.

By Snowish1 |

Traveled with a group who are frequenters of Napa and love big Cab. I didn't know what to expect with some of the boutiques we visited which all seemed high end, but this place made my day and left me more knowledgeable and excited about the wines I bought and will be receiving. Their attention to detail and the time we visited (A Sunday post harvest) made me feel like we were a part of the club before we joined, which all three couples did. Excited to return some day.

Palmaz - An amazing winery that totally blew me away !

By blooz4u |

We made reservations for a party of 5 for a tour and tasting of this vineyard. I made the reservations based on a few wine tastings that I *really* enjoyed, and I'm so glad I did.

The land and views are amazing, as well as the history of the property. They make wine in the old traditional ways, but use super modern technology to monitor the wine in the fermentation tanks... it is truly something that must be seen in person to appreciate. Lucas, our tour host, was very thorough with the presentation of the winery, and patiently answered every single question we had, along with all of the picture taking that we were doing. ( Be sure and have him show you the stairwell trick...pretty cool !! )

Outstanding Winery and Tour

By Doug W |

This winery was recommended to us by our tour guide. It was the most interesting winery tour we took all week. The place is amazing and our tour guide Jordan very knowledgable. The wind was out of this world good. It is a private estate and you have to make reservations ahead of time. It is $60 pp for the tour and wine and food pairing, but well worth the fee.

Great Atmosphere, Staff, And Wine

By Andrew M |

We stopped off here and loved it! We aren't huge wine drinkers, but we enjoyed this no doubt! And what a beautiful place as well. Will definitely stop here again if ever in the Napa area.

Wow

By Melanie M |

This was such an amazing vineyard and our tour guide Adrian was really knowledgable and friendly. This is a film owned vineyard and the grounds are impeccable. State of the art equipment combined with old world winemaking equal some of the most delicious wines I've tasted while traveling through Napa. It's a little pricey but what a great experience

Exceptional tour and experience

By Nancy B |

Unique is an understatement. If you have been to other wineries you will still be stimulated by this pristine and perfect winery. They are implementing the most innovative technological systems to craft a perfect wine. Our guide was highly knowledgeable and full of cativating stories about the property and the people involved. We went as a family reunion group and all loved the experience and talked about it throughout the day. They served lovely wine in seperate glassses with perfectly paired treats in a beautiful tasting room. You will not be disappointed.

Spectactular

By jamey t |

This vineyard is spectacular and the story behind the wine is remarkable. From the incredible views and stone work, to the multiple story facility and great wines. This is a place you must visit. The food pairing at the end of the tour was a nice touch with the tasting. Nice family story and great wines!

Just Great

By Howard G |

Top notch, was our favorite stop in Napa. Need reservations, highly recomend it. Great facility, very modern. We bought a case after visiting. Can't say enough great things about the place.

Great winery/vineyard tour

By AJB2187 |

My husband and I did a private tour at Palmaz this week during our stay in Napa. The tour was great and our tour guide was very knowledgable about the vineyards and winemaking, in general. We really enjoyed the tour and it was a unique experience seeing a winery built into a hillside! The caves were neat to see. The view is fantastic. The tasting was great and paired with some nice hors d'oeuvres. The tasting included a Chardonnay, 2 Cabernets, and a dessert wine. I would definitely recommend this winery to anyone visiting Napa as it was nice to get a personal tour and drink some great wines. It was a little pricey but worth the price.

By Misrakim |

We booked a tour ($60 per person) of the palmaz winery as it was recommended very strongly by friends of ours. This tour was absolutely fantastic, and we are so grateful for the recommendation.

Florencia, the daughter of the man who built this vineyard, took us on the tour. She is intelligent and modest, and made us feel so welcome even though we knew little about wine. Our tour was a private tour (though we didn't book it as such) so we had Florencia all to ourselves. She took the time to really explain everything to us and answer all of our numerous questions.

As for the wine tasting, it was fantastic. We tried 4 wines, each paired with a different amuse-bouche. Florencia took us through each of these, helping us to understand the complexity of each of these (they are $120 bottles of wine).

We highly recommend this winery. It's pricey, but definitely worth the visit.

Do the tour!

By lisae75 |

This one is probably the coolest and most interesting in the valley. The caves and innovative wine produicing techniques were especially welcome after lunch. I really enjoyed thr food and wine pairing. The mom is a fantastic cook. That being said, with everything else involved, I thought the wine would be magical. It was good. Just not good enough for me to buy at those prices

Amazing

By jodyrluv |

Had a great time touring and getting to know the history of this wonderful Winery. It was my first time to Napa and I already know I want to take my husband here! If you are going to Napa...you have to go to Palmaz...it will ruin your experience at any other winery because its so amazing.

Impressive But....

By Bob W |

You won’t ever find a vineyard tour/tasting like this anywhere. It boggles my mind how much was spent building this facility in the mountain. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the wines are very good. However I think the tour is over priced as are the wines. There are many Napa wines that will challenge with their wine but none that will match the facility. You can visit two or three other great vineyards for the price of this visit. If you want to be impressed make visit.

A Wow Experience!

By TRVLNYCA |

This is not an inexpensive experience at $65 per person but it is well worth it! An 18 story winery built into a mountain with spectacular views. Our tour guide Adrian was terrific. High tech merges with basic wine making at this winery. The food and wine pairing were as good as I have ever had. If you have friends or relatives in from out of town, take them here and they will really be impressed.

Technology, Beauty, and Hospitality

By Hawgwild91 |

WOW! This by far was our favorite wine stop over our three day vacation. We were looking for a good cave tour and this was all of that and more. Adrian was our host who was so knowledgeable and welcoming we felt like an important guest of the Palmaz family. Dr. Palmaz obviously used his medical experience to invest a large amount of money to create as close to perfect wines as he could with the latest technology available. The location has incredible views as you enter the cave. I do not want to spoil it, but the tour made me think I was visiting NORAD in the cave. We finished in a private room where Adrian paired foods with each wine tasting and they were spectacular. I joined the wine club and can not wait to get my shipments and attend club member events in the future. I highly recommend Palmaz to anyone visiting Napa on wine tours.

Incredible Experience

By Emily J |

I've been to wineries in many areas of the world but nothing prepared me for this experience. The wines are NOT inexpensive, so if you're not into REALLY fine wine, read no further. But they ARE outstanding, particularly the Cabernet which I'd swear was the best I've ever had. Don't miss the cave/control room!

One of the BEST experiences

By PirateLA40 |

Palmaz is not your average winery tour. They have taken technology (AI, maybe?) and blended that into the wine making experience. The tour illustrates what is possible with a great deal of imagination and money. We opted for the food and wine pairing as part of the tour, which made it that much more special. The wines are not all to my taste, but that's why there's chocolate and vanilla. Certainly a visit to Palmaz is well worth it because it will be unlike any other winery you visit while in Napa.

Worth the fee

By Tigerfan0_0_12 |

At first I was wondering what a $60/person tasting fee would get me and actually we were going to cancel after seeing many other wineries that day but boy this place was incredible.

Had a 2.5 hr tour of the incredible grounds and tour guide was so knowledgable about the history and the family she held all of our interests. Our group of 6 had 3 engineers and 3 in medical field. I tell you this because the engineering Palmaz used to build his wine cave was unbelievable. Also if you don't know he invented the heart stint to you can also in imagine how he mixed that into his wine making

At end of tour we all tried 4 different very expensive wines and paired with some perfect small appetizers.

I would strongly recommend especially if anyone is engineer or in medical field as they might appreciate a little more

Very good but a bit overrated

By wine_moose |

We visited in November and as others have noted you must make a reservation in advance. They do call to confirm your appointment just over 24 hours before it and since the cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance they charge your credit card 24 hours in advance. We arrived just before our appointment time at 10am and there was at least one other tour going at the same time but with a different tour guide. Note - as others have mentioned this is a pricey tour even for Napa but your tour is private regardless of party size. (and we were just 2 people) This is a very nice aspect of the tour.

The tour itself was very interesting and educational. The Palmaz have created a very unique winery in Napa Valley and their winemaking approach the same. I especially enjoyed seeing the technology used in the winemaking process as I work in technology. Again very unique and interesting.

Our tour guide was only ok in my opinion and his tour seemed a bit rehearsed and somewhat sterile. Additionally, we only tried three wines (assuming I recall correctly) and they were the chardonnay and cab from two different vintages. The chardonnay was above average but the cabs were average for a $125 wine. Also the food pairing were very small bites (1-2 bites) of food and they were good.

In the end with a better tour guide I might have enjoyed it more and also if it wasn't so expensive. I would suggest going there once but I wouldn't go again.

One of a Kind

By WillG8R |

By my own admission, I can be a wine snob. I have my favorites. Pride Mountain, Peju, Siver Oak.
I was not prepared for the experience we enjoyed at Palmaz Vineyards. It is straight out,of a James Bond movie, where someone one with a ridiculous amount of money and a genius IQ sets out to make a first rate wine. First buy an untouchable, overgrown side of a forgotten mountain, south of all the other vineyards, then come up,with the unique and never tried idea of making all your premium wine using only gravity in place of pumping to preserve the delicate polymers that makes wine the nectar of the gods. That's what Dr. Julio and Amalia Palmaz did. Using his medical brilliance, attention to detail, the incredible profit from his medical invention, the Palmaz family have created a winery like no other.
Diana Lasso escorted us through the history of the property, the state of art winery and hosted us to the finest wine tasting- food pairing we have ever experienced. Bottom line: ignore the prices join the club and enjoy the wine!

Wine trip

By tlspadoni |

Palmaz was fabulous. From the moment we arrived it was a wonderful experience. the story of the Palmaz family makes you want to enjoy their wine even more. AND, the wine is the best. It was our first trip to Palmaz but not our last.

Fabulous!!

By magsmom |

From start to finish, Luke was beyond fantastic. We all thoroughly enjoyed this visit. So much history and so Interesting. What a beauitful, state of the art winery which seems to run with precise perfection.
Not to mention the wines - OMG, they are going to be hard to beat the rest of this week. Just goes to show that their attention to detail has really paid off.

Want to learn more about wine making? Visit Palmaz Vineyards for an amazing education and tour.

By Janet S |

Based upon a recommendation, we visited Palmaz Vineyards in Napa. This was one of the BEST tours I have ever experienced. I learned more about the technical aspects of wine making and came away with the feeling of what makes a wine great! All of the winemaking at this location is inside a mountain. The sheer size of this (18 floors underground is breathtaking. Wines are also outstanding. Our tour guide was Adrian Gutierrez and I would recommend asking for him. Very knowledgeable and engaging with the group.

Exceptional Experience!

By NJerseyTraveler22 |

Adrian was our tour guide and he handled our large group of 11 college friends so graciously! He was so well versed in the operation and processes of the winery. This winery is one of the most unique in the world with the blending of wine making and technology. The tasting and pairing of hors d'oeuvres was really special! The facility is very clean, bright and beautiful. The grounds are extraordinary! A must see in Napa!

Great wow factor

By Alex R |

If you have never been here please take the tour. It is worth it and I take all my friends who have never been to Napa out here. The place resembles a CIA bunker turned into a winery. It will blow you away. The only X factor will be if your tour guide is nice. Ours was fantastic but please leave the babies at home. It really upsets the staff and the other tourist.

Best cave tour!!

By Bethmcalister |

While in Napa make this a must see, you won't be disappointed. Remember to make an appointment. This by far was one of the best tours we took on vacation.

Without question, our favorite stop

By traveltarot |

Without question, our favorite stop. 8 of us in our group agreed !!!
The grounds are breathtaking, the staff delightful, the wines delicious, the winery AMAZING !!!

Schedule in advance for a fabulous two hour tour & tasting with an winery ambassador . The tasting pairs wine with delicious food bites. Nicely done all!! Two of our four couples were so stunned we walked away club members anxious to return for special events!

Best tour that I have ever been on.

By Rob P |

I am a wine guy. Enjoy drinking it, talking it, studying it,visiting it. This tour was, hands down the most impressive, informative, passionate, professional, scenic, beautiful, experiance that I and my guests have ever been on. Period. Would make the napa trip to go to Palmaz alone.Private tasting is worth every cent they charge.Wine quality is excellent for such young vines. Look forward to my future visits

October visit

By keysfishin |

The tour was very informative and the technology being used is really amazing. That being said the wine did not impress me that much. My overall experience was very good and am glad I did it but did not buy any wine.

A great experience!

By adthomas529 |

Palmaz is a winery that you have to see for yourself. The property is just gorgeous & they're winemaking process is so technical that you just have to witness it firsthand. If you're lucky, you'll get to see the car collection!

Excellent tour and wine

By slither1 |

Very personal and detailed tour and the wine tasting with tastings for each wine was superb. Beautiful vineyard and surrounding area with amazing technology incorporated at the winery!

Don't miss this tour - unique and worth the price!

By beachmomof3_9 |

We have been on a lot of wine tours and this one was definitely one of the most innovative and interesting. The history of the palmaz family (inventor of the palmaz stent) and the gravity fed technology along with the imax like projection on the dome walls made this tour well worth it - not to mention the delicious wine / food pairing in our private room at the end to top off our tour - beautiful view and excellent tour guide Jordan made this one of our favorite wine tours!

Very interesting concept

By careswell |

We had a tour and tasting here, it was pretty amazing to see all of the modern technology in action. The facility is enormous and the owner's daughter was our tour guide so she knew the history first hand. I can't imagine the amount of money that is in this winery. You need a reservation. The wines were lovely although very expensive, for us they would be 'special occasion' wine. We left with a couple of bottles but this is not wine we would be drinking on a regular basis. Some of the selections on the tasting were $180/bottle.

Just OK

By neverhomeCalifornia |

The winery is beautiful and the technology the winery uses is impressive but the price charged for a tasting ($60) per person is quite high compared to many other top notch wineries in Napa. One person in our party was pregnant and was not tasting, but they still charged $60 for her to be there (she participated in the snack portions of nuts, dried fruit and cheese). In addition, normally when you purchase wine at the winery, the cost of one of the tasting is deducted from the purchase price. We purchased a $185 bottle of wine and they still charged for the tasting.

All in all there are so many fantastic wineries in the valley that make better wine and are not nearly as expensive. This would be my last choice.

Private tour and tasting.

By Kelley N |

Jordan was excellent. He was friendly informative and very knowledgeable about the Palmaz family and winery.
Very professional.

Just do it

By ScottinBermuda |

A friend recommended we visit here on our latest trip to Napa. Wouldn't tell me much but just said "you have to go".

I was skeptical, thinking " I've been to tons of Napa wineries, love a lot of them, I'm sure it will be good, how good can it be?"

I was blown away. I don't want to say more, just do what I did, visit with a healthy dose of skepticism and be prepared to be blown away!

Simply Stunning - Wine Making Collides with Technology

By Mark B |

This is definitely a one of a kind winery in Napa Valley, maybe in the world. Set in a amazing hillside location, no expense seems to be overlooked for producing great wines. It certainly helps if you enjoy incredibly red wines, but if you care as much for the story as you do the wine, then this is a winery you should visit. The winery is located in the side of the mountain with at least 5 levels. Everything flows down hill so that gravity does the work of pumps. Technology tracks everything complete with a control center that graphically displays on the walls and ceilings on one of the floors so that the winemaker and helpers can digitally monitor everything. It's very James Bond-ish looking. And the wine is stunning. Expensive mind you, but just the tasting tour with the personal tour should give you an experience like no others. Thank you Trey for your time and your knowledge of how and what Palmaz has accomplished. Hats off to the family that is keeping the tradition of this winery flourishing.

Is this the Space Mountain of wines?

By TexasRayDoc |

Incredible technologically advanced winery in fantastic setting with very personalized tour and tasting reminding you that this is a family run operation. Jordan our host was amazing as were our sampled wines. During the tour you’ll think your in a Bond movie! This winery boasts the largest cave system in Northern America!!

What a fantastic experience!

By rich_and_laurie |

We were amazed by the architecture of the building/cave and just blown away by the wines. They are ALL fantastic! Our guide was so knowledgeable and it was personal and fun. This is a must see if you love wine. The tasting was complimented by some beautifully presented and tasty small bites. We loved it!

Beautiful! Great cave to tour!

By Julie C |

Attended a tasting recently and really enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a “cave” experience, this would be a great choice. There were actually a couple of tech-y surprises at Palmaz that really highlight how technology can play a part in very hands-on winemaking. Delicious wines and beautiful views in the tasting rooms. The bites paired with each wine were LOVED by all.

Best Views in Napa

By TheMouses |

This winery is a must see. Private tours of their caves and facilities on the side of a mountain. The views are awesome and great wine paired with small bites specially designed by the Palmaz family. Reserve in advance as each tour is with your small group and nobody else.

Why Is There No 25-Star Rating System Available?!?!

By appetite4trvl |

When planning a girls-only trip to Napa Valley, I went to TripAdvisor for suggestions. As you can imagine there are 500+ wineries between Napa and Sonoma, so finding a good winery seemed overwhelming. One of the wineries that caught my eye for its reviews was Palmaz. The one review that caught my eye came from someone who stated that the wine tour was more expensive than most but it was worth the price. After my visit, I can tell you that I 100% concur.

Unfortunately I visited on a day when there was a tremendous rainstorm and Google Maps left me incredibly lost trying to find the entrance. I had to call the winery and stayed on the phone with the host while she directed me on where to go. I was late and when I arrived there was pretty much no one else there. My host never made me feel rushed and led me through the winery for a tour.

From the moment we stood over the vats just below us, I was blown away by the technology used at the winery. Every subsequent level we descended blew my mind even more. I think I was speechless by the time we got to the section where barrels aged. When we headed back upstairs for the tasting, I think I fell in love. The Palmaz experience HANDS DOWN was a moment I will always remember. They offer a true tasting in that a sample of food is presented with every wine as a pairing. The food is actually based upon recipes created by the owner's daughter. I had a pickled shrimp with my Chardonnay and the most incredible twisted savory pastry with one of their signature Cabernet's. THIS is how you treat a girl when your goal is to impress her.

I am very sensitive to the fact that $80+ is quite steep a price to pay for many. My friend declined to join because she had been "told" not to spend more than $40 on a tasting. The experience at Palmaz was incredible, not only for the tour but for the quality of the wine. I highly encourage you to book a tour, even if you have to cut out two winery tours to combine the money. It is THAT worth it.

A hidden treasure

By Juan-Carlos V |

I was recommended a visit by a friend because of the high tech way they produce wine. What we found was the use of super high tech to produce outstanding wine in what looks like a government nuclear bunker. To look at the place on the surface is to misunderstand what is hidden there. Everything about the appearance externally is unassuming. The rooms inside are reproductions of the family's personal home settings (granted, a very wealthy family's home). Diana led us through an odyssey explaining the history of the property and the people behind this vineyard. The wines are produced sith passion and love and it shows in the final product. What a production, what a show they put on, what an outstanding wine they produce! A MUST SEE.

Amazing

By Happyowl97 |

Thus vineyard is top notch. Beautiful, classy, technologically advanced. We had a great tour and our guide answered all of our questions and filled us in with tons of information. After the tour we had the privilege of having a wine tasting paired with small bites in their beautiful tasting and dining room. I loved all the family stories and pictures and the wine was awesome! A real treat.

Palmaz Perfection

By Heydoc96 |

We visited at least 10 wineries and vineyards last week in Napa. This is the most I liked. First, the property is extraordinary. Its construction is impressive. The surroundings are well kept, and the rolling hills of the vineyard are captivating. Our guide, Eddie, expressed the passion for the family values of the Palmaz, and their commitment to make exceptional wines. The engineering and technology behind this winery is impressive. At no other winery, we saw so much commitment in the use of technology to improve wine quality. Eddie toured us through the process, and we then finished at the wine tasting room. It was ready for our arrival. Wine served in their glasses behind their pairing food bites in a beautiful plate. We went through the tasting, enjoying the quality of these exceptional wines. A day we will never forget.

Art and Science

By jennifer_noble |

We visited Palmaz with a group for a private tour and reserve tasting that was arranged by my friend. I must admit I was not familiar with this Vineyard but it is absolutely beautiful up on a high hill. They built the winery deep down into the mountain and have an amazing use of technology integrated with the winemaking process. I was blown away! Private tour concluded with a reserve tasting in a private dining room. Wine and a few gourmet nibbles. Very impressed and would highly recommend a visit to hear about the history and the process. Owner invented the heart stent.

Impressive state of the art winery

By Stacymo80 |

This was the first winery we toured on our vicar to Napa and it spoiled us as to what to expect at others. There is no tour as comprehensive and as in depth as this one. If you want to know how they go from grapes on the vine to wine in the bottle and everything in between this is the place to go! The wine is delicious and the food pairings that they have with each wine really enhances the flavors. You will not be disappointed.

Best winery stop of the weekend

By Dukefamilyof4 |

We did the private tour yesterday and all agreed it was our favorite. The view is beautiful, the winemaking technology is amazing and we loved the wine (and food pairings). Jordan was our host and we really enjoyed our time with him - he was knowledgeable and friendly. It’s a little on the pricey side at $100 per person but worth it!

VERY interesting tour

By Gene T |

This is a winery that is definitely worth seeing, if for no other reason than to see how much money can be poured into a winery. It probably has every device that can be used in the modern wine-making gravity-flow process. The entire structure looks clean enough to eat off the floors, so to speak. The owner is an Argentine physician who patented some type of stent, and his operating room sterility shows through in the winery in every way (this is meant as a compliment). Everything is in its place, and the winery is an engineering marvel.

Once the tour was completed, we sat down to enjoy the wines. We found them to be ultra-smooth, but to our particular palates, somewhat lacking in texture, almost devoid of tannins. We're not sure how long the wines will hold up in cellaring, but they are definitely ready now. The kitchen had prepared some very nice hors d'oeuvres which paired well with the wines. All in all, this was a tour well worth taking.

THIRD TRIP HERE

By Mike S |

Made the reservation months in advance. Love the experience and know the history of the Palmaz family. Although the car collection is gone ... the visit is still extraordinary and the wines are absolutely worth the visit.
Have had different tour guides in each of our visits and they all added something to our stay.

Disney World of Vineyards

By Hayley R |

We felt like royalty coming to Palmaz Vineyards! We were on a private tour with someone who was so knowledgeable about how the wine is made, the vineyard layout, and everything about tasting the wine! The appetizers that we had to taste with the wine were so delicate and made with love. We had a great experience, but you definitely pay for what you get here! Thanks for an awesome time!

Very awesome winery with great wine and interesting technology

By jasonf1975 |

This winery is different! We really enjoyed both the wine and tour. The technology used to create their wine was really interesting. Loved the wine itself as well. Don’t miss it

DEFIES DESCRIPTION!!!

By Bostonian80 |

This winery really earns the appellation of "unique." Big kudos to Nick, who was not merely knowledgeable and engaging, but was warm, and very kind with our child, and who was an absolute pleasure to listen to.

I can't describe the many aspects of this winery that are special. The marriage of viticulture and the latest technology and applied science is so impressive. The facility -- complete with its own "super-computer" --- would be worthy of a Bond movie! Wow -- such an impressive and memorable experience! And the collective humility of these excellent folks towers over the haughty arrogance of much lesser tours (like Caymus).

Do everything you can to get into this winery. It's unforgettable!! Thank goodness for the Palmaz family!

My best winery experience

By HanworthHouse |

More than one winery person had suggested I visit Palmaz which I did my last day in Napa. It was worth every bit of the pricey $100 fee. Every guest was an individual, the information was fantastic, it blew me away in terms of technology and passion. The wine tasting and food pairing was exquisite. My favourite visit by far and a definite recommendation for anyone visiting the region. The views are superb as well. You must book they don’t accept walkins. Just do it and thanks nick for such a passionate and informative tour.

The OO7 of Wineries

By MichaelE9 |

If you are in Napa, try to get to this winery. The outside is beautifully landscaped with a terrific view of the valley and upper reaches. Inside is a unique experience. The interior features a series of huge tunnels through 18 floors of wine processing, storage and distribution. When we were in the cave with the fermentation vats our guide took out his phone and displayed on the dome of the cave a series of laser projections which indicated what was going on in each of the huge vats like temp, pressure, and other wine statistics which they track at a moments notice. It was very cool. We went on to taste various samples of the wines with a detailed history of each which made for an interesting afternoon. The wines were very good and our guide was very into the wine, the history of the vineyard and you could tell, he loved where he was working.

Tour from being of Wine making process to end

By Mary K |

Fabulous tour with views of vineyard- tasting starts there and then continues through the wine making process. Finishing part is the food and wine pairing ...
Outstanding!

Very interesting place and family. Overwhelming storytelling.

By Chip G |

Being an aerospace engineer I thought it would be more high tech than it actually was. The projection of the tanks plots and graphs onto the ceiling is a very cool visual, kind of like a planetarium. The design of the multi-level caves is a pretty amazing feat of engineering and construction.

The down side to the tour was our guide, who talked the entire time, seemingly without a breath. It was overwhelming for me, as I didn't have time to absorb what was being said or to enjoy and think about the experience. This included the wine tasting, when we were continually being shown pictures on the screen and being told about the amazing family.

For me, this tour was mostly about the family and not enough about the wine.

Outstanding

By blackjackdog2 |

One of the best vineyards we've ever visited. The wine is great as is the tour and tasting. The winery reminds you of something from the James Bond movie.

Short stop in Napa

By Brandy B |

I am so glad that I choose to visit Palma Winery. It was the most beautiful property. Our host, Jordan, did a wonderful job of answering all of our questions and educating us on the area and wine. We only had time for one stop on this visit, and I am absolutely thrilled with our choice. Definitely a 5 star winery tour and tour guide that I would highly recommend.

WOW! State of the Art Gravity Flow Winery.

By ENSXE |

My wife and I love to visit Napa in July for our Anniversary and this year I had read about and "YouTube" about Palmaz Vineyards, and I was impressed with the videos and the reviews. Well, I can tell you that the Winery is Impressive. I have never seen such a state of the art system which incorporates and old world type process of Gravity Flow. Palmaz has brought an Old World process of wine making into this Century, like no other. The staff is extremely hospitable and friendly, you feel like part of the family. The wines are defenitely a family passion. I am a Cab lover, and Palmaz Cabernets will defenitely compare to some more polpular cult Cabs. I can't wait to start receiving our Club shipments.

Congratulations to the Palmaz Family for their Passion of wine making.

Best Experience Ever

By David L |

This is my fourth trip to Napa with different groups of people over the past 5 years and this wine was so incredible and the tour so fantastic that I joined their wine club. This vineyard is very high tech. driven and the history behind the owners of the vineyard is quite incredible. Understand that these are expensive wines you are tasting and the tasting fees are expensive with no waiver of the cost of the tasting even when you join the wine club, so go in knowing that. Along with the tasting of these incredible wines is a pairing menu of excellent food. This was by far my favorite winery of the 20+ that I had previously visited throughout the Napa valley and not to be missed. You do need to book early as it's very private and sells out quickly.

Amazing what happens when billionaire marries billionaire. Built by mining money and the heart stent. Over the top winery but wines are absolutely fantastic. A little bit too commercial but as I said wines are fantastic. A little bit of arrogance in tour but I guess as the old saying goes if you got it flaunt it. Wish their tasting fee (100) was a little lower so that more people could afford it. I been coming for many years to this winery and even came when Christian and Florencia Palmaz gave almost all the tours. Also wish wine was a little bit more approachable price wise. They also have a second label (Cedar Knoll)that is fantastic and it is very approachable price wise. Tour guides are pretty knowledgeable about most of the operations but can’t touch Christian and Florencia knowledge, but they inherited pretty good genes. I know very few children whose daddy invented a heart stent. Would be more personable if one of the family members put in a token appearance on each tour. I have had bypass surgery and stents and enjoyed taking pics with Dr. Palmaz, in one of his cars that he collects. But bottom line is this is a winery that needs to be on your bucket list of wineries. Wine and tour kinda pricey but I guess it’s worth it. Will without a doubt go back on my next visit also.

Expensive, but worth every penny.

By Douglas B |

Everything about Palmaz was first class. The facility was a sparkling technological marvel, the property and views were fantastic and our ambassador, Diana, was knowledgable and personable. However, like many other places in Napa, none of that matters if the food and wine aren't 5*. At Palmaz, they charge a little bit more, but they make sure you get your money's worth. The 4 wines we tasted were all amazing and some of the highest quality we tasted on our trip. There were gourmet food pairings for each wine and they absolutely enhanced the experience. I highly recommend a visit to Palmaz.

Outstanding tour and service

By Lschreter |

My wife and I have been on many different wine tours but this is by far the best. Jordan was fabulous and very knowledgeable. Do not miss this one.

Unbelievable Facility

By Cabo_Bob_and_Harriet |

We have visited numerous wineries but none can compare to what we saw here. To have this high-tech winery where the juice is Never pumped is a feat in and of itself. You are not allowed on the premises without a prior reservation, so plan ahead and make reservations early. We enrolled in their wine club and have not regretted it! Enjoy.

Amazing wines from this beautiful and hi-tech winery!

By Saibal S |

We love all the wines we get in our wine club allocation. The winery tour is excellent and love to take our guests on them. I love the Amelia Chardonnay and the Gaston Cabs.

Coolest wine tour EVER!

By Douglas P |

My first trip to Napa and Sonoma Valley was with my wife, also her first, and another couple whom had been a few times. We ultimately went on about ten tours total. I LOVED this one the most. First of all, it is filled with history from 1889 when Henry Hagan made the first wine from here which won a Silver Medal in Paris (yes, beating 'Bottle Shock' but almost 90 years; no, it was only a silver) under the name Cedar Knoll. It was ultimately purchased by the physician who invented the cardiac stent! It has a huge underground tunnel system to assist with the wine making and distribution and a four story underground system for fermenting the wine complete with digital information of the coopers that can be projected on the cathedral ceiling. A MUST SEE! In addition, the wine is fantastic! Our tour guide was a wealth of information regarding every facet of the land to include its history as well as the wine. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute here. Make sure you plan to stay a few hours though.

Cutting edge technology and great wines

By hike-n-xcski |

We were lucky to be the only reservation so we got to spend a lot of time and so a lot of questions. Neil was our host and he was charming, interesting, informative and welcomed all our questions. The caves are unique and worth the visit. And the wine is also unique, a tribute to either the process or the atmosphere. We are looking forward to bringing other friends here for the tour. Best afternoon we've spent in the Napa Valley.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

By Flyer13844025992 |

I have chills as I start this review. Palmaz was incredible and far exceeded our expectation! My fiancé and I have been to several vineyards in Napa, and Palmaz is certainly at the top of our list and highly recommended.

The views of the valley are as good as it gets. The wine is AMAZING! The story of the vineyard and the Palmaz family is very cool and unique, and the tour and understanding the production of their wine was also very sophisticated and interesting to learn. I will leave all of that for you to find out :)

Lastly, our tasting and tour guide was Jordan. From the first hand shake, Jordan was no longer seen as our "tour guide". Jordan was our close friend that we got to walk around the vineyard and drink wine with. At least that's what it felt like. Jordan was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and just overall made our experience that much better.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Incredible Experience

By Sarah S |

A friend recommended Palmaz and it was truly an amazing experience. It is expensive but absolutely worth it. Compared to other tastings with a high price point, Palmaz is readily distinguishable. The tour is entirely private and they devote individualized attention to your group. The wine and food pairings were outstanding and our tour guide, Adrian, was awesome. We can't stop talking about the place!

Smooth wine is here

By Stephanie D |

This is our favorite winery! The wine is our favorite ever. It is so incredibly smooth Amd delicious. The tour is so interesting And did I mention the wine??? Love that it is family owned and kids heavily involved. Really a great experience

Great Experience!

By KarlynnKM |

We had such an amazing experience at Palmaz. The tour was incredibly informative and we were able to taste freshly pressed Chardonnay grapes straight from the crusher – Really, how cool is that!!
The winery uses gravity-flow technology to move the wine. This preserves the molecules in the wine from breaking down, creating a better tasting bottle. The tasting after the tour includes a small pairing of food, which many tours in Napa Valley do not. We truly enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait for our shipment to arrive on our doorstep!

Can't beat this View

By Alison W |

Really a interesting winery. Loved the owners and facility back story. Great Reds! We really enjoyed the personal tour and tasting! But to me the view was out of the world. How I had pictured Napa in my head!

Jurassic Park of winemaking

By Charles V |

This is a technological marvel which is producing very nice wines that are cellar worthy as well as drinkable now. It's truly a facility that no expense has been spared. We joined their wine club and are awaiting our first shipment.

An impressive winery that Tony Stark would approve of!

By MakingMemories317 |

My husband and I booked an anniversary trip to Napa. I wanted to book wineries that were unique and offered private tours and tastings. Palmaz came up in my search and looked perfect. When I called, the woman that I made reservations with was very helpful, and continued to be so even when I had to call and rearrange our schedule a bit. On our day of arrival, our "estate ambassador"/guide was running a bit behind, but there was plenty to see outside so we just took it upon ourselves to walk the property a bit to take in the views. The entire property is gorgeous, from the inside out. When Adrian was ready, he came out and we began our tour. Adrian was personable, well-informed, kind enough to take lots of pictures of us, patient with all of our questions, and never pushy. It felt like we were spending the afternoon with an old friend. We were extremely impressed by the high-tech aspects of this winery, as well as it's history, but we were also equally impressed by their wines. Our favorites were the chardonnay and the cabernet sauvignon library release. The tasting portion of our experience was paired perfectly with an assortment of bites. Often when you go to Napa wineries, you feel like guides are going through the motions and rushing you through the experience. At no point did we ever feel that way at Palmaz. We were very pleased with this exceptional, personal experience and would highly recommend a visit to this vineyard.

Best of the Best

By Sheila H |

This is a very unique winery owned and operated by an Argentinian couple who obviously love wine and wine making. Our family of six were treated to a fabulous private tour led by the warm and charming Amalia, the heart of the winery. This is not your ordinary wine tasting but rather an intimate sharing of the wines, along with the chef's hors d'oeuvres matched to each of the wines.
The tour is most interesting because of the gravity method used to treat the grapes as gently as possible. The custom built building is most impressive in side and out. The hilltop vantage point overlooks the Sonoma Valley with its rolling hills and myriad vineyards. I am sure this tour and tasting were a bit pricey but well worth it for a very special occassion.

Poor guide, great facility

By ed y |

The Facility was incredible. It is a beautiful place and an impressive operation. Our guide didn’t appear to be very interested in being there. Maybe he had a bad day, but it was a poor effort on his part that left us both wishing we had skipped this tasting.

A must-do in Napa valley..if you are a wine connoseiuer

By Laurie K |

Amazing. The best tour in Napa. The wines were perfection. I loved every minute of it. In the wine room, it felt like I was in a James Bond movie. if in Napa, this is a must-do. It's pricey, but worth every penny. Totally changed my outlook on wine.

Technology at its finrst

A unique Vineyard

By Eduardo S |

Our group of 10 people visited different vineyards during 5 days. We left Palmaz for the end, and we are glad we did.
Palmaz is a high tech vineyard built inside a mountain using caves. Using gravity and other techniques, Palmaz has develop a unique flavor to their vines.
Our guide Jordan did a great job in explaining the process and allowing us to have a wonderful food pairing experience with the excellent vine from Palmaz.

Private tour, Amazing winery

By Justin W |

The winery is an engineering marvel. Planning took many years and they have taken every measure to make wine perfectly. We did a private tour and we also got to do a food pairing with our wines afterwards. I highly recommend stopping by for the two hour experience.

Tour/tasting pricey but worth it

By Numbs_AND_Peeps |

Tour is fascinating. Holy smoke they have a HUGE investment here. Other comments nail it. Combination of traditional winemaking with modern technology. Is the result worth it? You be the judge. The wines are really good. But IMHO not distinctively better than comparably prices offerings made in more traditional manner.

The tasting was really outstanding. The pairings of appetizers enhanced both the food and the wine. Best pairing skills I’ve experienced.

Would I come again? Not certain. Would certainly do the tasting again at a reasonable fee, but think it’s only available as part of the tour.

Doesn't Get Much Better Than Palmaz

By chopocho |

I have been to the vineyard 4 times now and it is always great. A wonderful private tour providing a great family story and learning about how wine is made. The place is state of the art and really speaks to the science of wine making. The Palmaz family does it right. Jordan has been my tour guide almost every time and he provides a great experience. The wines are great as well and the tasting itself is really good. If you are looking for a private tour and want to learn about winemaking go no further. The story of the family just adds to the charm of the place.

Not Your Average Winery

By DianeXit98 |

My fifth trip to Napa and it is experiences like Palmaz (I can count others on one hand) that have spoiled me!

From start to finish, the Palmaz tour pays attention to detail and is amazing. The tasting? Relaxed, mellow, and nicely professional. The wines? Without a doubt, some of the best Cabs I've ever tasted.

A modern approach to wine making

By rrwmex |

We came to find Palmaz due to a friends recommendation. Our visit and wine tasting experience was brat. The place itself is a must. They take care of every single aspect so that the wine is made with a modern process in a very well taken care of facility and in a family loving atmosphere. The wines are high quality. Bough a few for my self. A must at Napa for a high end experience.

Great personal service

By Gail_USA |

A friend recommended Palmaz winery for a tour and tasting, and we are glad we went. It is a gated winery, that buzzes you in to the property. The wine maker actually met us once we arrived and a family member (daughter-in-law) gave us the tour of the winery. The cost was $60 which we prepaid over the phone, which included the personal tour, and then a tasting of four wines plus small hors d'oeuvres. The wines were quite good - specialization in Cabernets, along with some whites, over a beautiful property. It was a little pricey, and not a tour I would need to do again, but glad we did it once to get the personal service and a chance to ask all sorts of questions (learned a lot about wine making as well as the history of the region and the former owners in the 1800's).

Very engaging wine technology visit with great wines

By jgregb |

The place is spectacular. Perched on the side of the hill in Coombesville AVA, the winery is mostly underground. The visit includes an educational tour of the wine making facility, including the amazing fermentation room with the rotating fermentation tanks. The ceiling display of the fermentation tracking software was equally impressive. The caves go on and on and are very interesting.

At the end, we were taken to a private tasting room where we tried many of the current release wines. The quality is unmistakable.

Very much a visit to plan on a trip to Napa.

Amazing

By marci b |

One of the best tours in the valley. Diana was our tour guide and she was fantastic. The wines are incredible too. Unbelievable experience.

Perfect!

By Gwend0lynB |

This winery was the highlight of our trip. Diana, our guide, was fantastic. Her knowledge of the history of the winery and the entire wine making process was impressive. The wines were fantastic - all of them. They had a nice food pairing as well. Highly recommend.

Best Chardonnay on the cutting edge!

By sigichloe |

We had a tour and tasting here as part of an organized tour, it was by far the most technically advanced vineyard out of the twenty or so we visited. The 3-level subterranean facility is spotless and no detail is spared in the manufacturing process of the wines. Aside from the cutting-edge winery it is important to note that Florencia, the owners' daughter is a charming and lovely hostess who clearly enjoys sharing her wines and her winery. We were able to make pizzas with her and her brother then pair them with their various wines. The wines are pricy but were among the best we sampled, the old adage you get what you pay for applies here. The view alone from the winery is breathtaking and the experience should not be missed if you are in Napa.

next 007 movie should be filmed here

By DeeDee K |

Palmaz was unbelievable; high tech and classy! It was worth the $100 per person charge for the private tour with pairing/tasting. We were wowed by everything-the scenery, the clean high tech operation, the charming tour guide, the outstanding wine and food pairings. This is a must visit!

Ingenuity, beauty, practicality, and quality collide at Palmaz

By Michael M |

A winery inside a mountain! Lots of tunnels spiraling out. The tour was amazing. The people were gracious and fun.....and the wine was smooth as silk. Some of the best wines I've ever had, and that's saying alot. Needless to say there's a few bottles residing in my cellar. Highly recommend the tour, and if available you must try the Gaston.

By Raffaelo |

Amazing winery, that demonstrates how technology helps develop a great wine and reduces the possibly of mistakes.

I have never seen the use of information technology the way the Palmaz family does it. Also they built an entire building inside a mountain where they create their awesome wine.

Perfect place to visit with in couple, beautiful view of Napa Valley with small tables to relax and enjoy the wine with some real Argentine empanadas.

Favorite Napa Winery

By price221 |

This is a must see when in Napa. They have an incredible place, amazing views of the valley, and even more amazing wines. We added this to our list because my wife loves Riesling - which they were out of. But even she was completely amazed at all their other wines and hardy disappointed to not be able to taste the Riesling.

Número Uno!!!

By Aislynn T |

My husband and I came to California for a wedding, but decided to come a few days early and spend some time in Napa Valley. My in-laws were in Napa in August and visited 9 different wineries. They said if we could only make it to one to go to Palmaz!!! Wow, what an experience! Don't shy away by the $80 per person cost, it is totally worth it! The drive up to the winery and the views are almost worth the $80 alone. Two full hours with a wine expert who is passionate about wine and the wine making process (our expert was Jordan, and he was superb). Complete tour of the winery...from the vineyards to the final product, you will be all over the property and see so much. The tasting at the end was superb! Wines were paired with bites of delicious food. If you are an amateur wino like my husband and I, please don't be intimidated. This is a 5 star winery, but you feel like a part of the Palmaz family for 2 hours. Don't miss this one!!!

Amazing History, Beautiful Property

By Amanda H |

I give this place a 15 out of 10; it is truly amazing--the history has scandal, intrigue, surprise, and so much more. The grounds are beautiful, the tours are private, and the wine is fantastic. Diana was our guide and she was knowledgeable, passionate, and a perfect reflection of how amazing this place is. I could write a full page review about Palmaz, but I'd rather you experience what my husband and I experienced taking a tour of this incredible winery. We will be back, and I recommend taking a tour to anyone who will be in Napa before choosing to go anywhere else. It will ruin every other place for you, though, so maybe take this tour last on your trip.

Intimate; personal and interesting

Amazing family; operation, attention to detail; and great customer service was on par with the wonderful wines. Would highly recommend!

Excellent Asado

We attended the fall Asado which is a giant bbq but done with an entire cow on the spit. The wine was excellent and the service fantastic. Afterward we descended into the cellar and production facilities. Great time

Loved, loved, loved everything about this tour! We will recommend to all of our friends. We can't wait to bring them all so they can experience what we so fortunately already did. Palmaz would be fun to tour with a group of four or more friends!
It couldn't have been better. The wine was superb, but that was just the icing on an already perfect cake.
It may seem pricey, but you get your money's worth with this tour.

Napa visit with friends

Not your run of the mill vineyard. Make a reservation if you're into fine wine. Technology marvel of a vineyard for sure. Dr. Palmaz and family still live on premises. Ask for Adrian as a tour guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Awesome place.

Fabulous

We always enjoy the Palmaz experience and this time was fantastic. The tasting experience is unique and well worth the time to learn more about the process this family follows to produce great wines. The 2015 cab is both drinkable today and frankly seems like it would cellar for 10 or 20 years.

Wonderful Tour of Palmez

By Desiraprewitt |

The tour takes about 2 tours, which is great, you never feel rushed. You get to see what goes into their wine, see the cellars, see the high tech room where you can see what is going on with each wine. At the end, there is a wonderful pair of wine and food. A very beautiful winery, with wonderful wine and a Lucas was a great host.

Great wine! Great tour

Great tour lead by Jordan. He was so knowledgeable and had a great passion for what he does. The wine was top notch for every variety and the facility is amazing.

Truly amazing Napa Valley wine experience

By crboore |

We just visited Napa last week and had already mapped out where we were planning to go, though we had a little time to add something if we wanted. Usually, when we visit a winery, we ask our guide about their favorite vineyards, other than their own. Time after time, people were mentioning Palmaz, one that I had never heard of before. Turns out that it was built by the physician that invented the heart stent. And, he ended up building some much unique technology into this endeavor. The first mind boggling feature is their 18 story deep cave that allows them to bring their grapes into the main level and then everything is gravity fed down to the fermenting tanks and then eventually to the barrels. Pretty amazing. Then they showed us the technology used to monitor the fermentation process that includes a heads-up display projected on the curved walls above the tanks. This shows a whole series of measurements that monitor the environment inside the tanks so they can then make adjustments, when necessary. All of this technology means nothing though unless the resulting wine. And, it wasn't good...it was truly great. I am very impressed and we ended up joining their club.

Expensive tour but completely worth it

By Alyssa W |

The tour was the most expensive one we did in Napa, but we really enjoyed it. The facilities are really impressive and nice. Everything was well thought out! Our guide, Edrian, was really nice and knowledgeable. When you get to the tasting part, they pair it with food, and though small, the food was absolutely delicious. They bring you to your own private room to do the tasting and he even asked what kind of music we wanted to listen to while we tasted and ate. I would highly recommend this place to family and friends. It was private and elegant!

OMG

This place is awesome! Jordan was such a great host. The cave is crazy! The technology they have down there is nuts! The views are top notch, and the wine is so delicious! Highly recommend.

Great wine tasting with a personal touch, and even welcomes children. Lovely wines accompanied by canapés. Children’s non-alcoholic wine menu is top notch service. Highly recommended.

Wine technology at it’s best

Great winery. My hats off to Eduardo he did An amazing job. It is the most modern winery I ever visited. I like the projectors aiming to the roof. All the wines we tasted were extremely good. The meal pairings were excellent.

WOW!! Amazing vineyard and tour!

WOW...a vineyard tour like no other! Great staff! Great your guide Jordan! But the vineyard, "behind the scenes" is amazing!! Well worth the trip to this vineyard, take the full two hour tour....

Different and more special than the rest!

We are so glad we booked Palmaz! We only learned about it through Tripadvisor, and must recommend it to everyone! You will learn so much about their unique wine making process, and this place is state of the art. We have been to a number of high-end wineries, and have never seen the technology system they use here. The tour was completely private. Eddie was our ambassador, and he was so friendly and so professional. He greeted us and took us to the rooftop patio for some Rose and views of the property. He shared the family's history with us. He answered many questions as we toured through the facility and we never felt rushed. We ended up in a lovely sit-down tasting room with small bites and wines poured and ready for us. The food was delicious, and so were the wines. We bought two bottles of the Palmaz Cabernet. The $80 per person fee is higher than many other places, but you will remember this private and special experience.

High-Tech Vineyard and Winery

Wow!! A must see vineyard and winery. They are using all the latest and greatest technology to make fabulous wine. The tour and wine tasting, with food pairing was top notch. Highly recommend.

State of the art Winery! Spectacular!

By OmahaMonica |

I have visited hundreds of wineries in Napa & this one was out of this world!! I have never witnessed a winery that is this state of the art! Every detail is considered in their wine making process. Incredibly sophisticated! The wines are wonderful & they offer many different varietals. You must visit here! Great experience!

Exceeded expectations!

Did the private tour and had an awesome time. Definitely a unique experience...The history of the winery is very cool, the 'cave' (by cave, I mean underground, technological wonderland) was really intriguing, the wine was fabulous & our guide, Adrian, topped it all off. You need to visit this winery.

This is an experience!

This place is outstanding! Not your average winery tour. Reservations required, this is a private tour with outstanding wines; the family that own's the wineries and all involved with the creations of the wine are passionate about what they do. If you do this tour first you will be disappointed by all the other tours that follow!

Unbelievable!

By NCTraveller1 |

We had the good fortune of a private tour with Amalia Palmaz, the owner. Learning about the history of the vineyard, the technology behind the wine and most importantly the passion Amalia and her family have to create wine that we will love was outstanding. The wine tasting was an incredible experience. She was informative and interested in us as well. What a great start to our wine tasting experiences.

We called the day before and was able to get an appointment the next day. What an experience! My husband and I were blown away with the individual tour we received from our ambassador. The two hour experience was very educational, entertaining, and amazing. The wine tour was so unique and the tasting was impressive. We did not see any other winery that day because nothing would come close to what we just experienced!

Wine Tour at its Finest

By Amy J |

We had no idea what we were getting into when we showed up at Palmaz. The history of the family, the engineering involved building the winery, and family atmosphere were fascinating. The food pairings for the wine were perfect. They have a different approach to the farming of grapes and incredible views.

Incredible wine and architecture

By AZMGSR |

If you are serious about wine, but also want to enjoy an amazing view of the valley as well as jaw dropping architecture and engineering, you should make it a point to schedule a private tour at Palmaz vineyards. You will be amazed at what the argentine Palmaz family has built here. Kudos to Jordan who gave us a great tour.

The future is here👍

By vino4u |

Combine a magnificent structural winery with unbelievable technical winemaking innovations with a world-class winemaker and an extremely dedicated family to making the very best wines and you get...Palmaz wines👍! Dr. Julio Palmaz could have simply lent his name and investment and made so-so vino: he did not!! The wines, both whites and reds, are spectacular. If you want to take the tour-of-a-wine time, make an appointment (a must) here. P.S. Ask for Diana, but I am sure the entire Ambassador staff will be A-OK.

A must see!

By Artisttrw |

The most interesting and enjoyable wine tasting in Napa. Delicious cabs and chards with first class food pairings. Plus beautiful views - you can see as far as S.F.! But that is only the icing. The cake is a winery tour and description of a 160 foot gravity fed wine making that maintains unbroken chains of wine polymers. It is the wine maker equivalent to having a contemporary Steve Jobs walk you through what an IPhone 10 will be like, and how they make it. See it first hand to believe it!

Don't miss this tour and definitely request for Diana!!!

By Reign C |

Wow, what an experience. And before I forget to mention, it's an exclusive tour!! And as beautiful and incredible the facilities and location, the background to the winery and the experience far outdo the scenery.

It's been about a week since our visit but it's still so vivid in my mind. I can still picture when my husband and I met Diana, what a sparkeling personality and her storytelling mystique is so unique and captivating. Her delivery of the history of Palmaz far from reflects her short 2 years with them, she could just as well have been the daughter of the owner. What an intriguing story and so much information on what sets the winery so far apart from the others. To know that the owner genuinely cares about what he creates and distributes over the idea of profit is so well conveyed during the tour.

At first, I thought 2 hours for a winery tour would be so drawn out and we'd have to fake our smiles and interest at some point but both my husband and I were so captivated, we both wished we had more time with Diana.

The drama behind the history of the winery, the hard work and success about the current owner as well as their strong character and dedication to the quality of what they produce.....then you see the science behind it all as well as the time and effort in making everything no less than perfect. Then experiencing the effort... beautiful wines paired with small bites to accent the perfection. WOW.....incredible. Far from commercial and gives you the complete understanding of what someone will do to perfect something that is important to them.

We did not have the opportunity to meet the family but through this 2 hour tour, feel we know that they are very genuine, hard working people with dedication to perfection for the sake of making it a priority. Thank you Diana for your passion and time. This was the highlight of our trip and hope we can make it out again. I only wish we took more pictures!!

Aloha, Duke and Rumi

More Than A Pleasant Surprise

We see lots of wineries. Some are “acceptable”, some are “enjoyable” and then there are some that you never forget. We will never forget or fail to visit Palmaz. Very worth your time.
