A respectful tribute to those lost on 9-11with beautiful NYC skyline background. Located walking distance from Staten Island ferry and Staten Island Yankee stadium .

beautiful tribute

By ikrutepp |

we go every 9/11 for a touching ceremony to honor staten islanders that includes reading of names, local youth and adult musicians and of course local politicians. the design of the postcards is original and beautiful

Simple and meaningful

By MarysMusings |

This is a wonderful tribute to 9/11. A simple display of the victims from Staten Island, perfectly positioned to view the Manhattan skyline, and the World Trade Center. 100% worth the short walk from the ferry for a few quiet moments of reflection.

A Moving Tribute to Staten Islanders Who Died on 9/11

By MARY ANNE A |

Located on the waterfront very near the Staten Island Ferry terminal, this is a brilliantly created memorial to Staten Islanders who died on 9/11. Each victim's 3 D profile has been carved onto the wall and the name is engraved beneath. Having known serveral of the victims, I can assure you that the renderings are SPOT ON...You truly have a sense of who these people were and what a tragic loss it was for their friends, families and the people of Staten Island. It's a moving experience and often you'll find flowers and photos of these victims taped to the stone. Not to be missed.

By Melissa M |

I think it was wonderful for everyone in SI to pull together and make a dedication to those who have lost their lives and family can place a marking there within the triangle of love.

have been at this location a few times.

By Christine K |

When I first went after it was opened.. people would leave letters, flowers, even gold chains and pictures. Nobody I mean Nobody moved or bothered these items. That was very nice, very nice to see. If your taking a day trip over to staten island this is a great place to stop by near the ferry!

Memorial

By bridgesm0m |

Great memorial to visit. It is located close to the ferry and is free. Amazing to read the names and lives that were lost on that awful day in New York City.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ATTRACTION AT STATEN ISLAND

By Adv Navneet S |

The memorial is very beautiful and appropriate just not far away from world trade centre. The memorial is proof of the winning spirit of US against the evil forces of terrorism and remind them that they can win. Good Humans will always defeat the evil and will survive..The other nearby attraction is Bridge connection Island with New York

Somber and deep experience...

By Ed F |

I recommend this attraction but be forwarded it is very emotional especially when you see the names of people you have known that died in the attack. It is very well maintained and just a short walk from the SI Ferry, so easily accessible to all.

Another memorable view on tragedy of 9/11

By SFDutchman |

Worth a visit if going to Staten Island on the ferry. Just a short walk from the ferry terminal is this small memorial to the 9/11 tragedy. Two large white "wings" form a beautiful view of the lower Manhattan skyline. Gazing through the wings - you will see the new Freedom Tower. On the inside sides of the two wings are stone profiles of those lost along with names and places of employment in the Twin Towers. A lovely peaceful park.

Beautiful place to reflect on 9/11

By Ed A |

A very tastefully done memorial to pay tribute to all the members of Staten Island community who lost their lives on 9/11

Holding Back Tears

By Randall K |

This memorial is dedicated to the 274 Staten Island residents who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. The memorial is called Postcards because its two white marble wing sculptures represent large postcards to loved ones.

Each Staten Island victim is honored with a granite plaque bearing their name, birthdate, and place of work on September 11, 2001 as well as their profile in silhouette. It is so touching and moving when you spend time reflecting upon the events of that fateful day and then seeing all the people, young and old, male and female, worker and civil servant. It is one of the best designed and meaningful memorials of recent time. Staten Island Railway runs the lenght of the island and the Staten Island Ferry is free for those in the outer boroughs and tourists. If you are in NYC, take the time, get on the ferry and visit the memorial.

Beautiful Tribute

By therichastill |

The 911 Memorial on Staten Island is very beautiful.

From the ferry terminal walk along the front and you can see the memorial quite clearly. It is very tasteful. Two simple white stone pieces with the names of the people from Staten Island who died in the 911 attack. What I found was really beautiful was that there are the profiles of the people on the memorial as well which is a really lovely tribute.

From the memorial you can see Manhattan and the financial district which has now been rebuilt.

It is a good place to visit to remember the victims.

Simple and moving.

By Graham W |

Looking through the postcards/wings of the monument your eyes are fixed to where the Twin Towers once stood and now One World Trade stands defiantly.

Under construction

By Val K |

This would’ve been a really great place however it was fenced off and all dug up for construction. You can still get the idea and of course it’s really not about the views it’s about those who lost their lives that day. It is a bit of a desolate area though for being right off the popular Staten Island Ferry.

Very beautiful

By Arncliffegirl |

We walked along the path towards here, having just come across on the SI ferry for the experience. It was very moving and beautiful.

Somber Sad Memorial

By P5176JYpeterh |

This memorial is to the Staten Islanders who died in the Sept. 11 attack, it contains an etching of each of them and a brief biography. Memorial faces where Twin Towers fell.

Moving Tribute

By RBH262 |

The Postcards tribute to the Staten Island victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks is extremely moving. It faces the former towers and is on the water, less than a five-minute walk from the SI Ferry terminal at Saint George.

Beautiful tribute

By jennifer821 |

This memorial is a somber and creative tribute to Staten Islanders lost on 9/11 and will soon include first responders from the island who died later as a result of their heroics that day. It's windy, so be prepared for that. Beautiful spot.

beautiful tribute

By danacN301ZK |

very moving 911 tribute to those we lost on 911. it overlooks were the towers stood & the names profiles are carved into the stone

Pay your respects to those who paid the price of freedom

By thesandman2015 |

Its takes about 4 or five minutes to walk from the ferry along the the water front to stop by and pay your respects to those who paid the price on 9/11. Lets not forget that freedom isn't free.

Nice memorial

By Elisabeth E |

The design of this memorial is pretty amazing! In my opinion a really nice thing to do visit after taking the Staten Island Ferry.

Nice memorial

By The Swiss Nomad |

We took the ferry to Staten Island to enjoy the views, have lunch and then get back, and I saw there was this memorial close to the shopping mall we passed by, so we headed there to take a look.
The place was empty except for another couple, maybe because of the cold weather, and the structure was nice, although I expected more readings about what happened etc.
We checked the names of the poor people who died, took a few pics and left. Maybe because it is winter, but the place looked sad and lonely.

A beautiful tribute to Staten Islanders lost on 9/11

By mrskramden |

We visited this monument after a Staten Island Yankees game. It is on the walkway behind the stadium. Facing the walkway and the NYC skyline makes this memorial breathtaking.

Great memorial

By Linda B |

Overlooking the harbor....where the Towers onfe stood...where Islanders watched in horror as the towers tumbled. Every victim has a stone with their name where you can keave a small flower or note.

Tribute to the People lost on 9/11

By montanaJIm |

This memorial is on the waterfront looking toward Manhattan and is dedicated to people from Staten Island that died that day The names are on plaques on the interior of the memorial.

Well thought out Memorial

By wavcpa |

Step back from the memorial and look down the center, you see Freedom Tower. This is a well thought out memorial with the names of the individuals from Staten Island that were lost that day engraved in bricks. Just steps from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Avoid the crowds of the World Trade Center and stop here for some reflection.

Staten Island Gets Personal

By SI M |

Staten Island was triple-hit by the World Trade Center attack. We were downtown Manhattan workers, firefighters & police. So many died and continue to die from their exposure to this physical & mental ordeal. We remember. At "Postcards" each person is remembered as they were - their photo, their employer, their position - all ages, from worker to President, a card for each - but the tip of the iceberg as to who each one of these people actually were - each one is remembered and loved for so much more. Take a quiet moment, a few steps from the SI Ferry, to stand, face to the breeze, remembering this tragedy.

Good for a quick visit and pictures

By Gio F |

We included a small trip to staten island during our visit in NYC, and we were glad to do so. After you reach it by the ferry, the memorial is only a couple of minutes walk, just by the water. It's interesting to see the details put into it, you can see the names and faces of each service man and woman that passed away during the tragic events of 9/11.

Also you could enjoy Manhattan skyline in front you, so it's a double win :)

Beautiful

By susanjoyceh |

The sillouette by each name and the job they did was great. At the time we went it was tough to get to. A lot of construction.

Such a beautiful and moving tribute

By NewYorkerluvsKeyWest |

The location of this memorial is exquisite, facing the Manhattan skyline and the site of the carnage that occurred on 9/11/01. It is a most fitting tribute to the hundreds of Staten Islanders who lost their lives on that very sad day. Such a place to sit, reflect and unwind, very serene. I heartily recommend a visit via Staten Island Ferry, since the memorial is sited in close proximity to the Staten Island Ferry terminal.

Staten Island 911 Memorial

By Michael G |

It breaks my heart every time I visit this Memorial because I have lost several friends at 9/11. This Memorial is very beautiful and the city made it very easy for anyone to visit. It is a very comfortable and quiet place. God Bless all the people and the families that lost loved ones. God Bless America!

The Staten Island September 11 2001 Memorial is a very appropriate remembrance of those lost

By M G |

The Staten Island September 11 2001 Memorial is a very appropriate remembrance of those lost on that tragic day. So fortunate to be able to write this review, as I lost a co-worker and also a student, and but for God's love, was not included in this memorial, on a would-be earlier commute past the North Tower at that precise moment when the hijacked airplane struck that iconic former landmark.
Kinda eery that this design might remind one from some angles of the two former megastructures in a falling position--even though those buildings did not go down that way.

It is an easy close by walk from the world famous SI Ferry, past the outfield of the Richmond County stadium.

Very worth seeing.

Maybe the Borough President's office could "pick up the ball" on having high school volunteers on community service to keep this locality cleared of weeds.

Little known, 9/11 memorial.

By LAP |

Wonderfully done memorial of Staten Island residents lost to such tragedy. Ride the free Staten Island ferry then take a short walk along the waterfront. Be sure to read about “Postcards” before you go. Then, stand in the center take it in and pray praising the heroes, lifting the survivors, and asking for continued protection.

Somber

By Kelly S |

This is a beautiful memorial right across from where the towers stood. It's a very reflective place.

If your taking the ferry, please stop by and see

By NRichards64 |

I simply love this memorial, it is a lovely tribute to the Staten Islanders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The memorial is just right to the ferry steps. There are benches and a great view of NYC, take a lunch sit next to the water . It is peaceful and the design of the memorial is amazing. If you get off the ferry there will be another one in 1/2 hour, or an hour during off hours on the weekends. Enough time to go and visit.

Paying our Respects

By trendytravelers2 |

After parking for the Staten Island Ferry, we decided to walk over to the Postcards Memorial. It is a memorial dedicated to the 274 Staten Islanders that lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. Quick fact: Staten Island had built this memorial so well and in great time it inspired lower Manhattan to finish their memorial quicker. Sunday, will mark the 15 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a day that is etched in our hearts: Never Forget. The placement of the Postcard Memorial gives the visitor a clear view of the Lower Manhattan skyline where Trade Towers 1 and 2 once stood stories above all other skyscrapers. Take the time to visit the memorial in memory of those lives lost on that dreadful day. Parking is close and the memorial is free.

Postcards on Staten Island ny

By H elen Z |

Very moving monument to residents of Staten Island killed on 9/11. It really shows how devastated this borough was.

Nice memorial - nice views.

By EVD365 |

Another place to remember 9/11/2001. Good picture taking opportunity and free of any crowds. Only 3 minutes walk from the ferry exit point.

Sept. 11th memorial

By Doug S |

An inspirational stop to reflect on those Staten Islanders killed in the terrorists attacks in NYC on 9/11/01. You can see and touch the profiled faces of those lost.

Beautiful! World Trade Center is perfectly centered in view.

By Eric S |

I have seen the 9/11 Memorials in DC and Manhattan. I really liked this one. It was simple, but when you look at it facing towards Manhattan where the World Trade Centers used to be they would have been perfectly centered. We took the Staten Island Ferry over to Staten Island and it was only a short walk down to see the Memorial. It used the perfect amount of time up while waiting for the next ferry.

Day out.

By JGPT |

It's really nice there, by the water. It's so peaceful. Still under construction, can't wait until completely finished.

Cool view of Manhatten

By Revkev93 |

I rode the Staten Island ferry across from Manhatten just to walk around. This is really close to the ferry terminal on the Staten Island side. Nice view, small memorial with lots of construction around.

Touching

By ddallas1969 |

This is a wonderful 9/11 tribute. If you are down by the water, it's worth the short walk to see it.

Beautiful tribute

By jennifer821 |

Postcards is a graceful understated tribute to the men and women lost on 9/11. Its a beautiful spot to remember and reflect.

Somber

By Lee |

When you get off the Staten Island Ferry it is right there. Do both together - they are both free. It is thought provoking with beautiful views. I went on Sept 10 and it was adorned with flowers. Many people in uniform were there. Parking is about 7.00 or you can attempt to find street parking but not a wise move if you are not from the island. The streets are narrow, steep and reserved for the police and court people. The Staten Island Yankees are right there too.

Very moving

By Jon Pally |

Located on the water near the ferry, you can see all of lower Manhattan from here and where the twin towers used to stand. The individual postcards to the people lost is very moving. I particularly like the design of the memorial.

Worth a Visit Before Attending a Staten Island Yankees Game

By Stephen K |

As a Partial season ticket holder of the Staten Island Yankees, I visit this 9/11 memorial at least 2 or 3 times a year, especially in the weeks leading up to the anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center. Even though I personally don't know anyone on Staten Island who died in the terrorist attacks, I saw the second tower come down (I was at work in Hoboken, NJ when it happened) and it is indeed emotional to look at the pictures and read the names of the people who were killed that day. As far as visiting at night, as long as the Staten Island Yankees are playing a home game and there are people around (the memorial is right across from the ballpark),it should be safe.

Breathtaking memorial of this lost 9/11

By Tina B. |

the powerful and somber wings will have you catch your breath along the Hudson River- an easy commute from manhattan on the Staten Island Ferry. A must visit to understand the impact of lives lost on that fateful day.

Unpretentious, moving, simple

By JB10001 |

Having lost a disproportionate amount of its citizens on Sept 11, this tasteful but powerful memorial is worth taking a few steps from the ferry to see.

Moving...

By joyvpd |

Upon arriving in the area, we drove around and stopped to look at Staten island Yankee Stadium. We saw the memorial and walked down to the waterfront to see it. Very moving. The profiles of each resident who lost their life on 9/11 is on a granite plaque listing their name, birth date, and where they worked at the time of the attack. There is a space behind each where those left behind place notes, cards, flowers.

beautiful memorial

By StatenIslandJanet |

Hard to put into words how you feel when one sees friends on the wall. A quiet time to think and touch the cool stone and remember. They were all so young. It's been a while since we were there but when you drive by it draws you in.

Short walk from the Staten Island ferry

By TravelVlogger |

After taking the Staten Island ferry to Staten Island we got a sandwich then walked to this September 11th memorial, sat on a park bench and enjoyed the Manhattan skyline then viewed the Postcards memorial.

There were no crowds so this is an excellent location to reflect and remember.

appropriate memorial

This is an appropriate memorial of the victims of 9-11, beautifully framing the spot of the former World Trade Center. Very quiet / peaceful / reflective area.

A Beautiful Tribute

By Menian0303 |

This Memorial is beautifully designed, and a fitting tribute to the many innocent lives lost in the horrific 9/11 terrorist attack. Make sure you see the memorial from every possible angle & perspective.

Memorial 9/11 Staten Island

By Grannypiglet |

This is worth the lovely walk along the boardwalk to the memorial. just like the Manhattan memorial very sad and poignant. I did not know about this memorial until a few years ago. It is beautifully sculptured and the names of the people are there for you to read. Single flowers lay near names. There are benches that you can relax and take in the silence of the area

Simple

By Jodie M |

The design looks like the wings of an angle, between the wings on both sides of the wall are lined with the names and some photographs of the people that lost their life in that tragic time.
Each engraved plaque has the profile of a face, no two faces are alike.
The space between the wings when you stand in it looking over the water towards manhattan directs your view to tower number 1.
This simple tribute has a peaceful feeling to it, and is a fine reminder that this episode in American history should not be forgotten.

9/11 memorial

By Savannah C |

Right next to the si ferry, it's a very beautiful memorial, a nice peaceful walkway and a nice view of the freedom towers

Lesser known 9/11 Memorial

By bbee16 |

Worth the short walk from ferry terminal on Staten Island. Within the Memorial are poignant silhouettes of residents of the Island lost on 9/11. Clever and thoughtful design with the silhouettes looking towards to the sight of the disaster.

Emotional & Beautiful

I visited here last month both at night and during the day and it was beautiful, this tribute to those who died on the day of 911 from Staten Island is amazing and well worth visiting. It is walking distance from the Staten Island Ferry terminal.

Postcards Memorial

By Mary216 |

This is a memorial for the 9-11 victims who were from Staten Island. Its very well done and a short walk from the ferry.

Take the short walk from the ferry, it’s worth it.

By TabbronJules |

Just a five minute walk from the ferry terminal on Staten Island, this memorial is worth a visit. A beautiful memorial to the people of Staten island who lost their lives on 9/11
The NY skyline is beautifully framed and the faces carved with the individual names and date of birth of the victims looking across the Hudson is thought provoking.
Those who lost their lives after 9/11 as a result of that terrible day are also remembered.

Nice monument with great views

By Didojen |

If you are taking the ferry as a tourist get out and walk towards the parking lot. It is a quick walk from the terminal and a beautiful sight. Take a break from the touristy stuff and get some fresh air with beautiful views. I don't recommend walking much further than the monument as the area gets pretty bad. There are housing projects located at the end.

Powerful Memorial

By Patrick3734 |

This memorial honors those from Staten Island who lost their lives on 9/11. Especially powerful with the Freedom Tower clearly visible in the background.

Nicely done memorial....

By Johnjlm718 |

The memorial itself is very nice but obviously sad. The area is a nice place to go visit right behind the Staten Island Yankees ball park and walking distance from the ferry.

Postcards

Beautiful place to vist. It holds the names of the men and women who help so to rescue that we're in need of help. Hey gave of themselves. Those that lost their lives during the massacre of 9-11

Beautiful place to peacefully remember.

By Christopher J |

The angle of the construction and the view just gives you perspective of the magnitude of the tragedy. I prefer the silence and peace of this memorial to send a respectful moment of meditation to remember the inocent people that were lost.

Lovely Remembrance Memorial

By honeypup |

Offers a view over looking the former WTC, Right off the Ferry about a 2 minute walk. Pays tribute to Staten Islander who died on September 11th.

It is an unvisited spot on the island with some nice views

By Mike Hunt |

I came here as a visitor to the island, checking out the sights in walking distance to the ferry terminal. No one was here and it was a memorial to the victims of 9/11 from SI.

Beautiful September 11th Memorial

By Catherine M |

My husband and I had taken the ferry to get into the city that day and when we got off I mentioned that the Postcards Memorial was right next to us. So before we went to our car we took the short walk over to check out the memorial.
There is no line or entrance to get in. It is free and open to the public to come and observe, reflect, and pay respect to those that lost their lives on that day.
The design is unique. If you look between the two sides you are looking at Manhattan where the Twin Towers used to stand. On looking closer at the two walls you can see names.
It was very peaceful while we were there reflecting on where we were on September 11th.
If you are in the Staten Island area it is worth a moment of your time.

Worth seeing

By Mike W |

Absolutely perfect memorial to those lost, I can't recommend it enough.

It's quiet location and touching details without the need for tourist information make it an amazing place for quiet reflection.

Beautiful Memorial to those of Staten Island

By FloripaGirl |

Made a trip to the island with the purpose of visiting this memorial. What an unusual memorial, the beauty is so spectacular with the silhouette of each person that lost their life in the attack. Along the railing of the memorial are the names of people that have died since the attack, death caused from working at the site.
I do wish I could have visited at night with the lights shining through each block representing a life lost. Most people we talked to about this memorial were unaware, even New Yorkers. Needs more attention. Sad that an outlet mall is under construction within sight of this special place.

Honoring those lost

By Trenti1025 |

Event was to honor the fallen of 911. Music and the venue very appropriate overlooking the Freedom tower.

beautiful and serene

By Laura T |

This memorial to all of the victims from Staten Island sits on the waters edge and so absolutely peaceful and serene. They will never be forgotten and they will always have a view of NYS skyline.

worthwhile site to visit if you get off the Ferry in Staten Island

By Diana R |

Just a few steps off the Staten Island Ferry. Peaceful. Emotional memory trip of the 9/11 ordeal. Beautiful site and view of the Manhattan downtown skyline. If you are visiting NYC and decide to take the Staten Island Ferry, why not see this? if you are not in a rush, get off the boat and take a walk to this memorial. VERY SHORT WALK. In 30 minutes you should be able to walk to it, take a look, pictures if you want, and walk back to the ferry terminal. Probably you will only miss the Ferry immediately returning, however, the next one leaves in 30 minutes or less!!!

9/11 Memorial

Every New Yorker and all tourists should visit this 9/11 memorial for innocent staten islanders who lost their lives on 9/11. Never Forgot 9/11. Beautiful Views of Manhattan.

Postcards - Staten Island 9/11 Memorial

By TreyPod |

Take the Staten Island Ferry (free) to Staten Island. The Postcards Memorial can be reached on foot as it is located just to the right of the Staten Island Ferry Station. It is a tribute to those from Staten Island, a marker for those who lost their lives. It overlooks lower Manhattan. Definitely worth the trip to see and honor those it represents.

9/11 Staten Island Memorial

By jamesthemig |

Having witnessed the 9/11 terrorist attacks from television in Montana in 7th grade, I was very interested in this monument as it represents the view most people saw on tv or in person from the harbor.

Riding the fairy over, very few people seemed to make their way to this monument. I say: go see it as a way to remember those who perished in the terrorist attacks. It embodies the events that took place afterward - a nation united.

If anything, go there to remember the victims and take in the beautiful views of manhattan and the surrounding region.

A Fitting Tribute!

By Nick C |

Came over to Staten Island on the free ferry and took a short walk along the boardwalk to see this fitting tribute to the fallen Staten Islanders from 9/11. It's a beautiful memorial and it's very poignant seeing all the names of the fallen engraved on the 'postcards.'

Looking through the letters is the view of where the towers stood.

By Richard B |

Within the letters are the profiles of the people from Staten Island That lost there lives. They are back lit. a must see. Bring tissues.

It should never be forgotten

By Sharon M |

This is a moving memorial to the 274 Staten Island residents who lost their lives on 9/11 and during the 1993 World Trade Tower bombing. It is made of two thirty foot tall marble winged sculptures. These sculptures represent postcards to the loved ones of the victims. Each person has an individual section showing a profile of a man or woman, giving their names, birthdates, and places of employment. Looking at these I was struck by how young many of these people were. The important thing to remember is that these were real people, with friends and families who still love and miss them. This memorial is right on the water, just a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. As you stand between the two marble structures, you have a view of lower Manhattan where it all happened.

What makes this monument unique is that the sculptor created a two dimensional profile/silhouette of the 9-11 victims

By Robert K |

This a beautiful spot from which to view the New York harbor and the southern tip of Manhattan. The monument itself guides the eye toward the spot where the Towers stood before the terrorist attack.

Breath taking

By Diana60763 |

When ever I feel I need space I o here its breath takin and emotional to be be but you can releve your pain in peaceThe wins make me feel free and the view is reat idea..

Beautiful memorial

By Anne R |

Aside from the weird shape (I don't like how one looks ready to tip over on me), it is beautiful. The individual memorials are silhouettes of the victims' and rescuers' faces as they looked in life, which I love. There's a great view of the harbor and the Freedom Tower. It's a great tribute to both the victims & my fellow First Responders.

Very moving memorial

By MartieC |

Arriving in Staten Island, exit the ferry terminal and head right, past the baseball stadium. When you stand between the postcards you have a direct line of vision to where the twin towers stood.
The postcard walls contain carvings of the faces of every Staten Island resident who lost their life in those towers on 9/11, along with their names and birthdates.

A nice memorail to Staten Islanders

By Victoria C |

This was designed and built to be a quiet solemn place to reflect the loss of life that took place on 9-11 and it has been for years. Now the city government has destroyed all that making it hard to get to, endless construction and lots of noise all around with different and questionable projects all around it.

Go on a weekend, early in the morning for your best chance.

Postcards

By David S |

This is such a wonderful place to visit, especially after a scenic ride on the Staten Island Ferry. It's a very short walk from the ferry terminal. There is a spectacular view of the city skyline as well. The memorial has a perfect line of sight to where the Twin towers once appeared. It is definitely worth seeing. Remember, the ferry is free. it's the best deal in town

Touching tribute to Staten Islanders

By Skrybe |

The Postcards memorial is a tribute to Staten Islanders who perished in the attacks on The World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Just a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry terminal, the Postcards offer stunning views of Manhattan, Brooklyn and parts of New Jersey. Perched directly across the water from where the Towers fell in NYC, the memorial offers a place for quiet reflection.

nice and simple setup to remember the victims

By Robert C |

nice and simple setup to remember the victims. no fees required and just a short walk from the ferry terminal. Also a good view of lower Manhattan.

Memorial to the September 11, 2001 deceased from Staten Island

By NickZ_si |

exiting the ferry, go right and walk down the esplanade til you reach the memorial. It is a white structure shaped similar to the old World Trade Center but curving. Inside the structure, the Sept. 11, 2001 deceased from Staten Island are commemorated. May their memory be eternal.

A sad rememberance

By majgrant |

This lists the names of those lost on 9/11/01, in the barbaric attack on the World Trade Towers. This memorializes those lost who lived on Staten Island.

Awesome

By Santa B |

This memorial is very touching. Putting faces on the monument was a very powerful, and touching way of showing the humanity of those lost on this horrific day of Sept. 11th. God Bless us all.

Though-provoking views back to Manhattan

By Anthony M |

A short walk from the St George Staten Island Ferry Terminal, this memorial can be easily accessed by walking or by wheelchair in less than 10 minutes.

Simple peaceful memorial

By ECWorld |

Just a 10 minute walk away from the Staten Island Ferry terminal. Pretty deserted on a weekday morning, which is just fine. Can catch a view of the Manhattan skyline between the 'wings' of the memorial. Worth a quick visit before the return trip via the ferry.

A beautiful memorial paying tribute to those we lost

By FLBFive |

It is located a few steps from the SI Ferry so give yourself a little time before or after catching your ferry to pay tribute and/or reflect on the memories of that day that are forever etched in our minds.

A nice memorial to the 9/11 tragedy

By Grufnik |

This memorial, aligned with the former location of the twin towers in Manhattan does a good job of paying tribute to those lost in 9/11, particularly in a borough that had so many first responders.

The memorial is not the most spectacular memorial, or one that beckons you to make a special trip to visit, but it is definitely a nice one for people touched by the tragedy.

Beautiful tribute to lives lost on 9-11-01

By Slim543 |

Just a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry, Postcards provides a great view of Manhattan, with the new One World Trade center framed directly in the middle of the "wings" of this monument. The wings are oddly reminiscent of the long piece of the World Trade Center facade that was left standing after the terrible tragedy that occurred on 9/11. Inside are inscribed some of the name and occupations of those who lost their lives. Worth the short walk.

Nice Memorial to our fallen heroes

Super clean nowadays, still a good place to breathe fresher air and a good walk. Close to the baseball park, mall and the ferry terminal, it’s a very nice place to get away from it all.

Beautiful memorial

By Jennifer M |

Postcards is a tribute to Staten Islanders lost on 9/11. Its a solemn, stunning tribute that is open to the public. It also has beautiful views of lower Manhattan.

Sobering. A beautiful tribute. An easy walk from the free ferry.

By 1AnnieEliza |

Postcards is in a beautiful, serene setting just down the promenade from the Staten Island ferry terminal. The memorial itself is to the Staten Island residents who died on September 11th. The two white sculptures almost look like wings, carrying the souls away. The inside of each large structure is lined with individual marble "postcards." Each card is an individual tribute, with name, dates, and where each person worked. What makes this so incredibly moving is that one vertical side of each card is shaped in the person's profile. Very sobering. It's kind of difficult to explain how this is set up, but it is definitely worth seeing. Even though I don't know anyone from Staten Island who died that day, this memorial is so incredibly moving for me because Postcards is so intimate and personal .

Beautiful Memorial

By suzijohn |

Inspirational memorial honoring Heroes in a beautiful way. Unique plaques inside plane wing spans. Granite ledges on railings are serene

By badmintontim |

Yes I agree with another review that this is not strictly an 'attraction' but this is the only way for it to be listed on Tripadvisor and for other people then to know about it and to visit and show respect.

There are other memorials to this and other tragedies that one would not know about had it not been for Tripadvisor.

This should be on everyone's itinerary when visiting the island - and it us not a long walk from the Ferry Terminal - just turn right as you come out and walk for 5 - 10 minutes slowly.

The design of the memorial is very clever and haunting with the 'postcards' and the outline of the persons side-on profile.

Such a peaceful place looking across to the Financial District and the area where the Towers were.

Wings

By lydiaah2017 |

If you stand or sit in middle of the two walls, you get a feeling of flight over the harbor-as if the walls have become wings.

A VERY FITTING 9/11 MEMORIAL

By HENRY D |

This is a unique & very fitting tribute to those whom we lost on 9/11/2001. Every year on 9/11 a ceremony is held here for families, friends & others to remember the Staten Island residents who died on that fateful day.

Lovely, touching Memorial in the perfect location

By Mary O |

The first time I saw this memorial I was blown away. It's location and the symbolism of this simple yet beautiful work of art should not be missed. I have taken many visitors to Staten Island to see it and they all seem to have had a great appreciation for it's beauty and it's meaningful tribute.
It is within walking distance from the Staten Island Ferry.

Not to be missed

By Timkglenn |

Many don't realize that over 200 people from the borough of Staten Island lost their lives on 9/11 Staten Island is the bedroom community for the City of New York it very much houses its firefighters it's police officers its sanitation workers and its clerical workers for the financial district of downtown Manhattan because of that fact many many Staten Islanders made their way VIA train and ferry to the Twin Towers on the morning of September 11th it was a gorgeous beautiful sunny morning I remember it well on the Staten Island Ferry and many of those people that rode on a ferry or two earlier than mine never came back their names are on this Memorial overlooking the harbor and the skyline it's a very moving small and beautiful Memorial

Well planned, developed 9/11 memorial

By M W |

Peaceful, a tribute well done to those who lost their lives that day from Staten Island. Is a easy walk from the ground level north entrance to Staten Island Ferry.

Great Memorial

By PAK2013 |

Thank you for this memorial. It was well done. Everyone should take the time to visit this memorial.

Very sad

By Ellen B |

The memorial is very simple yet very poignant. There are postcards from the families of the victims of 9/11 telling of their pain.

By robert l |

Very beautifully done Memorial to the 911 victims from Staten Island... Right in back of the Richmond County ballpark it overlooks lower Manhattan where most of these people lost their lives... The silhouettes are amazing... I have to give the borough president at the time James Molinaro a lot of credit ...

The Staten Island September 11 Memorial

By HelenandPeter7 |

It's nice to see this memorial, but don't visit this area after dark. Don't be fooled by the come-ons you see advertising tourism on Staten Island. This area is called St. George, and it's a business district during the day, and a hellhole at night.

Passing by paying respects

By Lorraine L |

Such a beautiful view but more special is the tribute to Staten Island 9/11 victims.
Such a special design in the shadow of the WTC across the river. Get off the ferry and go see this

Very nice

Beautiful tribute by the harbor. The memorial was adorned with fresh flowers for 9/11/14. The area seems to be well kept. Beautiful

911 Memorial on Staten ISland

By Mike M |

Right near the Staten Island Ferry & Richmond County Ball Park (SI Yankees A ball) the memorial is tastefully done to honor the men & woman the died in the attacks of September 11th, 2001 who were from Staten Island (My cousin is part of this memorial). As a member of the NYPD, the memorial is steps away from where I was standing when the 2nd tower fell so it is a special remembrance for me.

,voting Tribute

By Nsl1952 |

A moving tribute to those Staten Islanders lost on September 11, 2001. The two postcards contain silhouettes of the victims of the WTC attack. When looking at the monument towards Manhattan, the two halves frame the location of the towers and now of the new Number 1 WTC. The exhibit is adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in St. George and Richmond County Ball Field home of the "Single A" New York Yankees farm team.

I pass by every time I take the ferry and make an annual visit on 9/11.

9-1-1 Memorial, Staten Island NY

By Joe Z |

STATEN ISLAND NY - Surprise and awe were one traveling couple's reactions to the discovery, during an impromptu trip to Staten Island in April 2014, of the gracefully designed and peaceful Staten Island September 11 Memorial. It is a place to sit and reflect on the that day's tragic events and lives lost, but it also is a quiet and superb vantage point from which to watch the sea-faring world float by the island on its way in and out of New York.

Reach the island by riding the Staten Island Ferry from the South Ferry terminal on South Street at Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan. The ferries are free and operate around the clock, usually three times hourly. The ride itself takes about 25-30 minutes depending on weather conditions; the ferry is enclosed and heated. On a clear day the trip across the Hudson River and the Upper Bay offers some great views of the New York and New Jersey skylines.

Passengers arrive at the island's St. George Terminal. As you leave the ferry and enter the departure hall, turn right (northwest) and exit out its side doors headed toward a paved walking path that follows the shoreline and Bank Street. It's a short walk, only 2-10ths of a mile, from the ferry to the memorial. On your way, you'll pass the outfield side of the baseball stadium that is home to the Staten Island Yankees (on the left).

Don't limit your trip to the island to the memorial alone. It's a great way to start a visit, but there's much more to see and do.

Nice waterfront view

By cynthia b |

On the water with plenty of benches and places to sit and its right beside the Staten Island ferry directly on the water over seeing downtown manhattan

Powerful Memorial

By Peter F |

This moving tribute to9/11 victims from Staten Island is tastefully done. It is located close to the water adjacent to the S.I. Ferry.

First Responders Memorial

By jwm1313 |

On October 1,2017 Boro President Jim Otto dedicated the First Responders Memorial adjacent to Post Cards. Post Cards is the Memorial for all Staten Islanders that perished on 9/11. The First Responders Memorial is for Sraten Island First Responders that have perished due to 9/11 related diseases.
It is very peaceful and scerene offering magnificent views of MY harbor and the City.

Postcards is most touching 9/11 Memorial

By KathyD504 |

It always kills me when I take the Staten Island ferry and all the tourists just turn right around and get back on the same boat. Take the half hour till the next ferry and walk about a quartermile tto the most beautiful memorial to our SI victims of 9/11. The "wings" of the "angels" faces of the memorial takes my breath away each time I visit there to say a prayer and stop to really think of all those lives lost. You will never forget it. Also beautiful view of the working harbor and lower Manhattan

Really beautiful

By aswad9 |

This area is still being done but still has a lot to see. This is a great tribute. I like the pictures with the names on it of the victims of who died. Plus you have a great view of the Manhattan skyline and monument.

How 9/11 affected Staten Island

By Jane4610 |

I was told that all the people that lived on S.I. and perished at the World Trade Center had their names inscribed and their actual profiles of their faces on this monument. Very touching.

A place for contemplation

By ivanram |

I survived that day and was part of the rescue and have friends listed on the monument.
Great place to sit and look across the bay at the site. Think or pray or contemplate, whatever you prefer.

postcards

By Genie S |

it is a very nice remembrance of the poor souls that lost their lives on 911.Very sad when you look across the harbor and remember what happened to them on that fateful day.Right now there is a lot of construction going on around the postcards and baseball field making it a bit confusing but it is still easy enough to get to.

Steps away from the ferry

By KatieLeigh123 |

Worth the short walk from the ferry. Beautiful location and just a wonderful tribute to the lives lost in this senseless act.

Beautiful

By Brett E |

How do you rate a memorial? It is something everyone should stop by and pay your respects to the people who were murdered on 9/11. Close to the Ferry and Staten Island Yankees stadium. Take the kids and educate them about that day make sure no one ever forgets.

Very well done

By dfs274@aol.com |

It is wonderful that Staten Island was one of the first memorials to be completed. The profiles of the Staten Islanders who perished on 9/11/01 was a great tribute to them.

Very nice

By Melissa D |

Loacted right next to our hotels just a day before 9/11 it was done with alot of heart. It was very peaceful. It was all decked out with american flags

Take a moment to think

By malcolmmckie69 |

2 large white monuments with names on it. So many fire fighters lost there life's. The monument is to remember the first response team that went in to help. It's next to the Yankee stadium. There is seats in a shaded area and seats by the south facing view over the river. A small place but worth taking the time to think of what may have been.

So well done

By Michael A |

Went down here last September for the anniversary of 9/11. Even after all of these years, still a moving experience.

The post cards of staten island is a most see how it looks over the water. It is a very memorial site to see and pay respect to. if you are near here you should stop by and see this beautiful site. You can also catch a game at the staten island yankees it is in walking distance

Honoring The Twin Towers

By omi1191 |

A very deep and emotional memorial to all the fallen innocent victims from 9/11. It represents tragic and emotion and compassion. As a Staten lsland resident for over 20 year never have l felt such a closeness to people l never met but most likely shared the daily routines of commuting in this great City.
May all rest in peace.

By Google USS LIBERTY ATTACKED BY ISRAEL |

The memorial is very plain. Remember the uss liberty attack by Israel and google five dancing Israelis

Moving tribute

By LozzaCam |

Really thoughtful tribute to the lost of 9/11 from Staten Island. The facial profiles along with their occupation brings thoughts flooding to mind. Worth the short 5 minute work from the ferry.
Also poignant how it focuses you to the site of the World trade centres as you look through the gap. Well done Staten Island.

Very moving

By Sarah-Jane R |

Very moving and beautiful tribute made even more moving that a day after the anniversaryu there were fresh flowers

Nothing special tourist attraction

By LavenderFemChi |

What is there to see. The pic tells the story. However, the app wants more words... st George ferry thermal has changed to this mega tourest attraction capitalizing on ripping ppl off with even higher prices. The area has gotten too big for its britches and I don’t see it sustainable.

Amazing

By Kevin R |

What they've done here is amazing job, it is a one unique place and the design is amazing mind blowing. A good memorial to remember Staten Islanders and it is facing NYC. The view of the city is also cool.

A place to pay respect to those lost on that day Sept. 11

By Extet |

It's a memorial to those Staten Islanders whose lives were taken from their loved ones before their time.

Kinda disappointing

By Mike W |

Interesting from a historical and artistic perspective. Nice view of harbor and Manhattan skyline but you could almost miss it if you don't know what you are looking for. No museum or building with artifacts. A memorial sculpture with names on plaques. Probably more meaningful to families and locals who experienced the tragedy personally. Maybe we just needed a little more information about it before we got there.

beautiful memorial

By BigFamily2014 |

I have never seen a more beautiful memorial for 9/11. No matter when you go, the views are beautiful and serene.

A Humble Yet Profound Memorial

By Buckmarko |

We stayed on Staten Island for a short spring break trip. I saw this and knew we had to stop. It's a simple and humble yet profound memorial. You peer through it and see where the Twin Towers once stood. The names. Profiles. Very nice.

It is located nicely on the waterfront. It has a nice view of the city. It's located right next to a minor league ballpark.

There's off the street parking and it's a short walk to the waterfront. If you're on Staten Island you must stop. Highly recommended.

Angels Wings 9/11 Memorial

By tmu6114644 |

The memorial is more beautiful than I imagined. It does not get enough attention for how much peace it brings once you are there. It is beautifully done in such a way you feel these wonderful people who lost their lives are being honored in such a beautiful way. Must go if you are in Staten Island.

Time to remember

By Declan M |

Sad but historical. Beautiful memorial of tragic events in nyc 2001. Place pay respect those passed too soon

Cheking out the envelope

By Miles A |

The monument is very unique and as we walked inside of it we were amazed about the particular faces and the details of its art. The whole idea was genius. The acoustic there is very interesting as well. Peaceful and sad at the same time. Honorable. Worth a visit every time we walk by.

September 11 Memorial

By ray c |

the memorial is a beautiful remembrance of the lives lost. it sits right on the shore of staten island with a clear view of the world trade center site. it is peaceful and serene . stop by and pay tribute to the brave staten islanders who were lost and those who ran into the danger as our brave first responders.

By mlleamon |

Beautiful 9-11 memorial, the location next to the water provides not only a stunning visual of the city but also a calming place to sit and remember those who lost their lives on that day years ago.

Beautiful peaceful space

By Jamie B |

Gorgeous. Peaceful. Respectful. It's a shame it's not widely known. Stand between the postcards and look directly at the trade center....it's beautiful at night time. Very well done memorial.

Not an attraction - place for reflection

By Kristy Lee H |

As a native Staten Islander, I don't count this as an "ATTRACTION"...However, this is a very special place. It's a memorial that lists the names of every Staten Islander that perished on 9/11.

I sometimes sit here on nice days in the spring/summer because it's typically serene, and you can actually reflect on the changed view of the downtown, which remains scenic...but very different.

However, every time I'm there, there's always tourists taking pictures yelling or tourist teenagers jumping on the memorial. I don't think anyone who visits this as an "attraction" really understands the point of the memorial or what the view used to be..... Why it's a special place....

Very Moving!!!!!!!!!!!!

By dan p |

The angel wings face the site of the WTC. Staten Island took a huge hit on 9-11 and this memorial is such a fitting tribute to their memories. Its right next to the Ferry Terminal and is more then worth walking to. You WILL be touched and moved.

Nice monument with a great view toward south Manhattan

By Kobi L |

It's a very nice place, the monument is very beautiful, but if you are not in the neighborhood, there is no reason to come.

Heart wrenching

By Janis Doe |

An amazingly beautiful memorial to all the Staten Islanders who lost their lives on 9/11. You must go across the street and just look straight between the structure to see where the World Trade Center once stood. The marble is etched to represent the face of each person who perished...very touching .....and sad!!!

Truly moving 9-11 memorial and beautifully designed

By shersgirls |

If you stand in between the two columns, you stare directly into the place where the Twin Towers once stood. In the middle are facial profiles of the Staten Island victims of 9-11 - which included many firefighters, police officers, and ordinary people who took the ferry to work that morning and never returned home that night.

A Truly Touching Memorial

By Janet H |

When you look through the center of the beautiful Postcards, your mind goes back to the time that the World Trade Center would have been standing proudly right there. Now it is just a memory but this Memorial is so touching with it's silhouettes of those lost that horrible day who hailed from Staten Island. It stands out as a tribute to all we lost that day.

A beautiful

By AnnalunaNYC |

I was there not long ago.. What can I say? They did a wonderful job to honor the victims .. I think it made me think twice of Why they had to die...
Speechless I was standing there looking at those memorial. They sure in a safe place looking at NJ and Manhattan.
Thank you !

Beautiful monument - rough area

By MCKD20 |

I took the ferry from Manhattan to Staten Island only to see this memorial, and couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. The monument itself is beautiful, but the area is definitely not pleasant. It's only a short walk from the ferry terminal but I think they're expanding the terminal so there's a lot of construction in the area. It was around 5 PM on a Saturday and the promenade was deserted and had an eerie atmosphere. There was no one else there except some guys smoking in a corner, the place looked abandoned and I didn't feel comfortable at all. I took one picture and left.

A Somber Monument Full of Memories

By Jose Molina |

This is a beautiful and somber memorial that brought up a lot of memories from 9/11. It was empty when I traveled over the summer and it just brought back all these emotions. The postcards provide a beautiful view and the area its clean. Wish there was more to the story but the minimal feel is enough to capture the sad events of this day and how it impacted the Island. Glad I took time to stop here.

Angels wings

By kitkatsiny |

I cried the first time it went up. Very moving and all the names of the people that lived in SI and died in 9/11 are engraved in the inside wall.

Sad

By SuzieQ044 |

If you live in S.I. and take the ferry, you are familiar with this memorial. It faces out towards the water. It is a sad reminder of 9/11 and brings back that horrific day. It is very peaceful at the memorial and a good place to contemplate, meditate, etc.

Beautiful tribute to the fallen

By Verniece G |

I had an opportunity to walk thru this beautiful memorial. It was a humbling experience that reminded me of the reason why we must embrace our time here on 🌎.

Never Forget!

By Moe1950 |

This is the most beautiful intimate dedication for all those precious lives lost on Staten Island with each face profile to never forget.

A Sad But Lovely Solemn Area to Contemplate

By evefrSI |

If you're taking the ferry over to Staten Island, stop by and visit. It doesn't take long to walk there. The plants are beautiful and the memorial site is just that. It's a tribute to those Islanders who lost their lives on the ill-fated crashes of two airplanes into the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan, NYC, on September 11, 2001. There are names and pictures of the fallen firefighters, police officers, managers and office workers even shoppers who had embarked on a clear, sunny day to go to work or just shop downtown. The area is kept clean. It is pristine. Be respectful when you are there. No loud talking and shouting; no littering. You can stay as long as you wish.

Small Gem

By ArthurMK |

A short walk from the Staten Island ferry terminal is a Memorial to the Staten Islanders who lost their life as a result of the 911 terrorist attack. Presently, (May 2018) there is a lot of building development going on in the vicinity which doesn't make it a particularly pretty walk from the ferry but we were still glad to go visit. It makes an ideal short sojourn in between ferry crossings if not exploring further afield.

An incredible tribute to those lost on September 11

By John A |

A moving tribute to our lost love ones against a backdrop Manhattan where all the devastation occurred.

This is a Must See when you get off the ferry.

By TIM V |

A few hundred feet from the ferry exit is this touching 911 memorial. You can see Downtown Manhattan from there. I saw the towers come down near that spot. The Memorial contains photos of the deceased and is quite memorable. Buy food in the ferry terminal and eat on benches on the nearby boardwalk. A real beauty of a memorial.

Intriguing, unique, moving, respectful and memorable....

By hatlad |

Like someone else said...how do you 'rate' a memorial. It is what it is; a commemoration to those S.I. residents murdered on September 11, 2001. It can't be anything but excellent because it seeks to keep their memories alive and respected as the daily grind of life and history go on.

What I like about the memorial is the "snowplow" arches that frame where the WTC towers would've stood across the harbor in Lower Manhattan. And on the inside of each "plowblade" are silhouettes of each S.I. resident who died there and the silhouettes are all forever looking at that tragic location - day and night - for as long as the memorial exists.

Beside each silhouette is a tile with that person's name, birthday, position within what company located in the WTC towers where they perished. What a great way to keep each person's memory individual and not just part of one big statistic.

The waterfront location is perfect for the memorial as this is where many people on S.I. etc witnessed 9-11-01 unfold. And the waterfront makes it fairly quiet and serene - very fitting for a memorial.

As another poster said, if you take the S.I. Ferry, please walk the block or less it takes to go see the details of this memorial. Well worth it.

Lovely 9/11 memorial

By Josephine D |

I just love this memorial. It's simple and touching. It's a short distance from the ferry and has a great view.

By Markfnc |

We were staying on Staten Island during our visit to nyc. We saw this walking to ferry from parking lot. The next day decided to take the time to visit. The entire design, location are amazing. The view from the center looking to manhattan aligns with location of former World Trade Center. The profiles of the people lost in the terrorist attacks is a lasting tribute to those people. To be able to not only read a name but to see what they looked like in profile was deeply impacting. Not just a name but a real person If you are in the area this is very worth your while. If just taking a ride on the ferry from NYC then back get off and go see it.

Very Touching

By Zach Rivett |

Rode the ferry over and then checked this out. It was about a 10 min walk over here from the ferry station. The memorial was very nice, cool, and sad all at the same time. Sad because 9/11, nice and cool because of the way it's set up. They have each persons name/ occupation on the slabs and then they have a cut out of the persons face. Now`, this memorial only features the people that died who were from Staten Island on 9/11 or Feb. 26, 1993. I am only giving this 4/5 stars though because they did have quite a few homeless people sleeping and wondering around which made me a little unsteady while being in a place I'm not comfortable.

Beautiful

By Shannan O |

I love the memorial here. It's usually pretty peaceful and has an amazing view on the new Freedom Tower and city.

Everyone needs to come here and absorb the atmosphere created by this memorial. It is like stepping into another world, the air just feels different. It is a beautiful place to feel peace, the view is spectacular. Be sure to walk along the explanade and just esperience the feelings that it all brings.

MOVING 9/11 MEMORIAL

By 2loveny |

As you walk through this moving memorial, the names and profiles of the men and women who were murdered on 9/11 are written on either side. It faces directly across from The Freedom Tower, where Twin Towers once stood. It is a free ferry ride from Manhattan, then a short walk to the beautiful Memorial

A Peaceful Place Pays Tribute

By Anita B |

I visited the Postcards Memorial to see the newest addition paying homage to the Staten Island First Responders. Thanks to our Boro President, Mr. Oddo, this addition became a reality. It is a beautiful tribute & I will be returning for the official dedication with my family on October 1st.

Moving and nicely done

By Mecca |

The postcards memorial commemorates Staten Islanders lost in the tragedy at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Profile photos of those lost makes a fitting tribute. The tribute lines up with Manhattan and gives a feeling of connection to the event. It is a calming spot that is walking distance to the Staten Island Ferry. Very moving.

Monument

By Grannypiglet |

This is a memorial that should be seen it is beautiful for the wrong reasons as it is a memorial for 9/11. How they have situated the memorial Ground Zero is in the middle and it is very sad. It is in a beautiful spot on the riverfront. There is a lovely restaurant up the road for you to go in and look at the Manhatten skyline.

Heart Wrenching

By Vincent V |

Heart wrenching experience especially when you know some of the people memorialized in the monument. Very nice memorial but a better job is needed when it comes to maintenance.

The Staten Island 9/11 Memorial includes First Responders

By Anita B |

I have visited this cite twice but most recently for the official dedication last Fall for SI families who lost loved ones after September 11th. It was a beautiful ceremony thanks mostly to our Borough President, James Oddo. It’s definitely worth seeing this memorial even if you personally don’t know anyone who sacrificed their life when the towers fell or died afterwards.
You can also see the ballpark & where the Ferris wheel will eventually be constructed. The Memorial is sandwiched between the two.

A Loving Tribute

By Cindy T |

A somber and emotionally moving place to start before visiting the 911 Memorial and Museum in Manhattan. When you look down the center of the "Postcards", you see One World Trade Center (1776 Building/Freedom Tower). Both sites are a must see for every U.S. citizen!!

The Memorial

By Jan F |

If you look down the center of this memorial it lines up just were the World Trade Center was standing. There are pockets under each name where flowers are placed on Memorial Day. The giant envelopes look like wings.

Very moving

By robcurtross |

The sculptural impact of this memorial made it very moving for both of us. The names of the victims and the view of Manhattan combined in a very meaningful way to bring that terrible day back to life.

Quiet harbor view

By Linda5jwink |

If you're already on Staten Island at the ferry terminal, this is a short walk next door, and free. Postcards is right on the water and a nice spot for quiet reflection and a view of the harbor and NYC skyline. It's a short detour from simply getting on the next boat to return to the city.

Poignant 9/11 Memorial

By stickley2005 |

While the rest of NYC can't get its act together to create a memorial at the WTC Staten Islanders had the "Postcards" memorial up quite soon. Only a few steps from the SI Ferry exit along the esplanade gets you here. The walls of the Postcards are inset with the profiles of the WTC victims from SI along with their names. Very moving an d peaceful as you gaze across NY Bay to Manhattan.

Hidden gem

By Izolina |

We took a ferry to Staten Island and we had a bit to time till the next ferry, so we decided to walk along the pier. First of all - lovely view of Manhattan!! (Hint - go there by night!). Walking distance was the memorial. Nice place.

Disrgaceful! Dirty, weeds everywhere, unkept.

By Wesnile |

This is a total disgrace to 9/11. The memorial is in total disrepair. Unkept, dirty and weeds everywhere. Combine that with the run down area and its just a total mess. Staten Island should be ashamed!

A great tribute

By Gerbra_10 |

If you arrive on Staten Island just because you took the Ferry for the Manhattan views then don't just get the return boat. The boats are every 30 mins so take a walk out of the right hand doors and head along the shore line for a few minutes to the memorial. These 2 concrete arched structures both hold the names of those who lost their lives but also envelope One World Trade. You can Imagine before the horrific attacks standing here and having the perfect Trade Centre views. Each name has its own individual face, and I might be wrong but I think the silhouette at the edge of each name might actually be the silhouette of that person.
Moving, quiet and a place to reflect.

Peaceful Remembrance, soon to be ruined!

By MikRiano |

Connected to the Staten Island Ferry terminal by a stairway (or accessible ramp), this is a perfect place to remember what we saw on that day the United States was attacked. While the World Trade Center burned, then collapsed, hundreds of people watched in shock from this very spot. The view between the wings is where the original towers stood, now replaced by the rather ugly new One World Trade Center.

Sadly, this peaceful area is being ruined by corporate greed. A huge outlet mall, and a huge Ferris wheel are being built literally on top of the Postcards Memorial! Come to see this before the hordes of bargain hunters take over! While in the area, visit the Staten Island Museum, a little farther along Richmond Terrace, and don't miss the National Lighthouse Museum, just five minutes walk away on the other (East) side of the ferry terminal.
