This was our first time visiting Red Butte for a show on Friday night. When we first pulled in I was concerned about where to park and where we were going but everything was very well marked. Free parking in tons of lots surrounding the campus. You will have to walk a bit to get to the actual concert venue but there is a drop off point as well. Line was CRAZY long but it moved super quickly and you can truly bring in whatever you want. Coolers, alcohol, chairs (As long as they meet the height requirement and yes, we did see security measure a few). People had full on picnic lunches. Bathrooms were plentiful and clean and the grounds are beautiful. Very, very impressed!

Not much in bloom in early November. Most deciduous trees had already shed their leaves.
Grounds are nice. If you go to the top of the water saving garden, there's a nice view of campus.
I went on a Sunday, when many SLC attractions are closed.
I would explore it again in the spring or summer, but probably not late fall (unless I went for their holiday exhibit).

Unfortunately, the day of our group outing to RBG it was raining. This did not keep them from serving us a delicious lunch and treating us to a succulent planting workshop and photography lesson. I'd love to visit when even more of the garden is in full bloom.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Red Butte Gardens. Being located next door to the Natural History Museum made things very convenient. There are numerous different gardens. The Rose Garden was very impressive. There is a shuttle that will drive you around the entire facility, allowing you to step off and tour as you go before catching another shuttle. This could be helpful as it is built into the side of the foothills. There are definitely some climbs along the path. There are hiking trails in the foothills that are part of the Gardens. Bathrooms are available throughout the area. There are plenty of benches throughout and nice covered areas to relax. There are signs reminding visitors that Rattlesnakes could be seen due to the location of the Gardens. Keep this in mind as you stroll along.
A beautiful and unique experience.

Recently we went to a family activity there and purchased tickets for the entire family. We have teens but still felt this would be a wonderful outing because of the fun memories we had of years past. It definitely catered to younger children and families. The scenery is gorgeous when in season and the walk around the entire facility fairly short.

My wife and I enjoy garden tours. We found the red butte garden to be very unique. The scenery was beautiful. We were disappointed to have left out camera at our motel.

This is really beautiful garden no matter what time of the year. We had visited the park in January with a little light snow on the ground. I would suggest bringing some hiking boots if you're going to visit this because in some places the ground is wet and muddy. It was a great hike with wonderful views. I know during the winter nothing is blooming however it was still beautiful. I do not live locally but it might be worth the time to visit this place during the summer and see everything blooming. The garden also has a gift shop with some beautiful items. I highly suggest this as a visit that does not cost much bring some water bring some hiking boots and a good camera.

A must visit. Please schedule a visit and enjoy it. It is a gem in the city and if you like nature, this is a wonderful place. We enjoy it very much

Red Butte Garden is an easy walk on paved paths around the garden with majestic views of the Salt Lake valley. Concerts sell out quick at this picturesque gem up on the hill.

Gardens were beautiful! There are free tours by volunteers on a golf cart type vehicles. Our guide was very nice, explained what plants we were seeing. Check out music events held there before you go.

Although I have visited Salt Lake City many times, I had never taken the time to explore Red Butte Garden. But now that I have seen it, I will definitely return. It's medium-sized compared to other gardens/arboretums I've visited. You can see most of it in an hour, but could easily spend double that time if you opt for a leisurely pace. It was very well maintained, and pretty well labeled, though occasionally I wish there were even more labels of the plants and trees. I was there on a weekday afternoon and it was pleasantly empty. I also would like to say that I really enjoyed the gift store in the visitor center and left there having spent way more than I had planned because there were a lot of nice things to buy.

The Rose Garden and all other Flora around was a mesmerising experience that has left us spell bound; enough to have us yearn to return for another visit sooner than later.
It is evident a lot of painstaking effort is put in to maintain the ambience.

First of all, this October it is free.
Secondly, it is worth the regular price of admission at the least. Beautiful and large garden, broken down into interesting ways to consider plants.
It's not like I'm a big garden guy, but this was worth the 3 hours we spent there, walking around, looking at the plants and the landscaping and surrounding mountains.

and can also make a difference? Well laid out and thematically presented with good markings and maps. Fairly easy walk from the Heritage Center at the University. Great to have functions at, too!

Went on a work retreat here and thought it was very nice. Not much of a plant expert but had a little something for everyone.

Given the dry conditions and late in the season we were a little hesitant to go, but glad we did. What a spectacular view of the city and valley. While we may have missed some seasonal blooms there were definitely plenty of beautiful flowers and other native plants making this a must visit destination in SLC. Inexpensive, staff very polite, gardens well maintained and layout of gardens very appealing.

This is such an amazing place. We go once a week through Spring and Fall. We go every other week in the Summer and Winter. The roses are spectacular but so are all the other amazing plantings! Take a picnic basket as there are many areas with tables to enjoy food and a view. Only one complaint. They close before the Sun goes down in Summer and Fall. It would be a perfect place to watch Sunsets. Check out the many activities at the garden. If you haven't been there you are missing one of the best attractions in SLC.

We visited the garden on a Saturday morning and the place wasn’t crowded. The rose garden is absolutely stunning. There is a natural reserve area behind the garden that leads to a couple trails that go up the little mountain behind the garden and offer a great view of the University campus. There was a Lego display while I visited, Lego art pieces were displayed all over the garden and was quite an attraction to kids there. There are many areas that are well shaded and wasn’t too hot during the visit.

I’m a big nature lover, so when I noticed the botanical gardens...I def made the trip. There are over 20 acres of display gardens, so you can easily spend an entire afternoon walking around and taking it all in. The Daffidil and Succulent displays were some of my favorites. They also have an extensive collection of trees which were quite remarkable, especially since I visited during the fall. If you’re looking for a low-key way to spend an afternoon and re-center yourself, this is definitely worth your time.

too many chairs too many blankets. too much sitting. felt like a show at an assisted living house.
the music was great but with most of the crowd never having heard of the band we got a 1 song encore. never saw that with these guys.
obviously there is some archaic LDS thing going on in Salt lake where they are still living like a footloose movie.
won't be back.

I have seen many excellent musical shows during the summer, Dweezil Zappa, Jason Isbell, Return To Forever, outside food and drink including beer/wine ARE allowed so pack a cooler.

We have a membership to botanical gardens. Red Butte was a fun place built into a hillside with beautiful views. We were able to hike up on a trail for about a mile, as well as walking around the amazing rose garden area.

This is an absolutely stunning botanical garden, especially considering its location at the outskirts of a major metropolitan city located in the middle of the high desert. Beyond that, the concert venue is certainly the best in Utah and perhaps our favorite in the United States (we travel all over the country to see live music.) Fantastic sightlines, great sound, and...
You can bring your own food and beverages to the concerts!
Seriously, this is the place to see a show. We have friends travel here from all over to join us and revel in the music and atmosphere. We consider ourselves lucky to live close enough to make regular use of such a special place.

The garden displays wonderful varieties of plantlife that is indiginous to the mountain deserts of the west.

Astounding in its' variety and the quality of its' plantings. One could spend multiple days here and not get bored. Lots of places to relax with a book too. Even has a children's exploratory garden. New Water Conservation garden is wonderful! Our second visit and we still have not scratched the surface of things to see!

We tend to visit botanical gardens whenever we find ourselves with a spare morning or afternoon in a new city and I have to say, this is one of the best we've visited - the planning is so well thought out and the gardens, water features, statues - all just stunning! And very thoughtfully laid out children's garden, so sweet!
We arrived just as the gardens opened and we're pleased to have completed our visit before mid day and therefore escaped the heat of the SLC summer... beautiful! And excellent gift shop!

Went not expecting too much, but came away with a wonderful experience. The gardens are set out in very interesting patterns, with virtually everything identified. There were many more blooms that we thought would be there this time of the year. There are small alcoves that could be used for a picnic or just a restful break in the shade.

I have been visiting Red Butte Garden since I was a little girl. It is still as gorgeous as I remember it. We had our family photos done in the gardens during the spring when everything was in bloom. They turned out gorgeous. It's a beautiful place to wander, or there are plenty of hikes available for the more active & adventurous!

Visited on a Sunday as it is so difficult to find anything to do near/around Salt Lake City then. It seems everything else was closed. Covering about100 acres with only 20 or so acres of developed garden. As part of the University of Utah, they say they test, display, and interpret regional horticulture and it is considered one of the largest in the intermountain west.
You can visit the Courtyard Garden, Fragrance Garden, Medicinal Garden, Herb Garden, Hemingway Four Seasons Garden, Dumke Floral Walk, Children’s Garden, the Richard K. Hemingway Orangerie, an amphitheater, a gift shop, and the McCarthy Family Rose Garden. See a few outdoor sculptures, poetry boxes, a couple of ponds, and a water pavilion.
There is also over five miles of hiking trails.
It may just have been the time of the year but there was little color and lack of contrasts in the garden in August. It was rather drab and uninspiring. Many of the plant labels were not directly near the plant listed or the plants were missing altogether (dormant?) leading to misleading information being provided. I am a firm believer in a photo/drawing of the plant on labels in case this happens, descriptions alone are not enough.
Good for meandering but only a mid-level garden, too expensive for what there is to see.

I enjoyed my visit. Walking the grounds, seeing the plants in different settings. Young and old will like this place.

I enjoyed my visit to this garden immensely. It has wonderful views, hiking trails, cosy sitting areas, and beautiful plants. I highly recommend visiting this place.

This is a beautiful garden that attaches to the University of Utah so is lovely and educational. Open year round it shows what plants and flowers grow well in Utah.

Red Butte Garden was one of the highlights of our SLC visit. It's an amazing place, with nice paths meandering through several themed gardens, including a children's garden and low water use areas. There are great views of SLC and the surrounding area. There is a large amphitheater for concerts and several areas for picnics and group functions. I have never seen so many varieties of penstemon! There were dozens of plants I would love to plant in my garden, but most would not make it in Phoenix.

Beautiful place yo visit. The garden are well maintained and spectacular views of the city. Great place for children. A must see!!

Whether attending a special event, an education program, to see a special showing (orchid, glass, etc.), to take a nice hike, or just to take in a leisurely stroll, Red Butte is amazing!

We wanted to take in the gardens after reading so many great reviews and we weren't disappointed. This place truly is a gem and this time of year the colors on the trees were brilliant. We took our time and there was so much of this place we didn't get to explore but with it being set against the backdrop of the mountains it was gorgeous. They have so many different kinds of plants and flowers it was wonderful. We enjoyed a nice and peaceful walk around the gardens just enjoying the great weather. We would love to go back and see what they do for Christmas.

This is a beautiful botanical garden tucked away in the North East section of SLC near the University of Utah. Definitely worth the trip throughout the spring, summer and fall.

Loved this hidden gem in SLC! It’s not really walkable from downtown, but the Natural History Museum is right there as well. The gardens were quaint, offered excellent views of the city, and were very manageable to see in a reasonable amount of time. Highly recommend!

Great for kids of all ages, really love the views, beautiful surroundings, and many things to see and learn more about. This is a great place for anyone, and we've been back multiple times.

Do better at letting travel sites know you close early concert days. Better still DON’T CLOSE EARLY. Arrived 5:30pm for a cooler sunset tour. Nothing accessible. A stream of disappointed people before and after me. Salt Lake City on I80 and should be a good stop for road trippers and garden lovers.
Do better RB Garden and Arboretum. Work something out for people who’ll only get one chance to see.

It happened to be a very hot day so we did not stay too long, but got through most of the gardens. Really amazing! The flowers are beautiful, but we also saw lots of butterflies and even a garden snake! The have a LEGO woman in one of the gardens which just adds to its charm. Loved this place!

I love botanical gardens and this one is now on the top of my list!
When I was researching my trip to Utah I searched for botanical gardens. I saw that this one was on the grounds of the Utah university and I was expecting it to be a little garden. Boy was I wrong!
Red Butte Garden is huge with beautiful trails, water features, amazing flowers, trees and it seemed like everything was in bloom. Amazing views from the higher trails and if you are adventurous you can climb the hills.
Most of the trails are wheelchair accessible.
Along the uphill trails there are several rest stops with seating, some of them are covered areas to shade you from the sun.
If I lived in Salt Lake City I would definitely buy a seasons pass here.

Was in town for business and had several hours off in the afternoon, so I took a wander through the gardens. Lots of steps and paths up and down the mountainside, but fairly extensive collection of local and some imported plants. The water conservation garden, filled with plants that are low water users, was interesting to see, as was the medicine garden.

A must see when in SLC. Gardens are immaculate and such a fantastic variety of plants and flowers. Would love to come back in the summer months to see more but certainly a beautiful Sping display of flowers. So enjoyed walking the gardens

This place has beautiful gardens for strolling and enjoying a quiet moment in nature all year long, regardless of season. Also, if you can ever go to one of their outdoor concerts, do so. It is one of the nicest venues you could ever go to. It is not too large and provides for an intimate setting.

Red Butte Garden is a magical trip through a beautiful garden. It is especially fun for children when the park sponsors special holidays. We went through the garden for Halloween in 2017. Our second daughter had her reception there and it was amazing. The Garden also has an out door Ampi-theater where we were entertained by Santana. It was fantastic. If you want to talk a small picnic it is fun to find a place to relax and enjoy the view. We will definitely return to this beautiful garden.

I've been a member for several years, and had my wedding here this year. The gardens are beautiful, especially considering they're in a mountain desert. The event staff are just outstanding--helpful and very well-organised. We also love the outdoor concerts--make the most of this place!

We were able to view the Fall colors of their amazing gardens and walk through the ponds and waterfalls. They do a lot of work to maintain the grounds.

A friend recommended I visit when I was in SLC for a meeting. AS colleague and I went. Pretty area, little hilly, little wet/muddy due to recent weather. The creative areas they have planned for kids (when the plants grow/bloom) are lovely. I'd love to see something similar for adults. There was an art exhibit inside, too. .

The Gardens are part of the University of Utah. This large collection is nicely spread out over many acres and divided by themes such as medicinal herbs, etc. The aspect I liked best where that there were many overlooks throughout the Garden to view the holdings. Absolutely a must visit!

Beautiful place to spend the day. It is huge and could spend hours wandering around looking at all of the plants. Bring drinking water with you. The views are amazing. Has a little art gallery inside and a cute gift shop.

The gardens were lovely. Well designed with excellent labeling of both trees and ground planting. We were surprised to find so many blossoms given the time of the year. There were lots of little alcoves scattered throughout most in the shade. It is definitely a place to visit when in Salt Lake City.

Took some out of state friends who are also Master Gardeners to Red Butte and they were blown away by it - very effusive with their praise of the layout, content and cleanliness - and they've been around a bit.

Every summer, Red Butte Garden hosts an intimate concert series in their beautiful outdoor amphitheater. The bands are phenomenal, the size of the venue is perfect, but what really takes the cake is that you can bring a picnic along- including food and beverages. The gardens are beautiful as well, and the seasonal exhibits keep me coming back!

My husband and I used to live in SLC, but moved to Ohio, where the trails are VERY flat. When we went back, this past March, to visit, I was six months pregnant, and knew I probably would not do well on some of the steep trails. We were also concerned about running into 10 foot walls of snow on some trails. Our friends suggested the Red Butte trail, which begins at the Red Butte Garden. This is a great little "hike" if you want to show family and friends, visiting Salt Lake, some great views and beautiful western topography, without putting too much stress on their joints.

The gardens were lovely. I was surprised how large of an area the gardens covered. We had a great time. The gift shop has very nice one of a kind items to buy.

This is a fun place to walk and talk. If you pay attention, you might see some wildlife in the gardens or in the hills nearby. One day, we saw a Coyote and a rattlesnake. It was amazing.

If you're looking for a place to walk around and smell the roses (and other great flowers!) this is it. It's a beautiful venue and educational experience. Also, the concert venue is amazing (you can bring beer, wine, food inside, a real rarity in Utah) and you'll have some amazing views of the mountain and valley! A must see. They also have great plant sales.

Very impressive number of plants, well laid out. A bit crowded for a quiet walk in the manicured section, but was able to find peace and quiet on the trails. Gift shop was very nice, found a few early Christmas presents! Overall I would recommend an hour or so.

The gardens are beautiful and serene. Walking is easy thanks to the wide path.
There is a lovely waterfall, rose garden, and some good views of the mountains and city.
I enjoyed the halloween inspired Wizard of Oz theme decorating the garden grounds. I believe this was set up for a special night time event for October.
The natural area has several hiking paths which were decent.

Red butte is a beautiful botanical garden nestled against the foothills. The area it is situated is unique because of the red cliffs surrounding the botanical garden. The garden highlights a wonderful diversity of plants that grow in northern Utah. I especially like the new water conservation garden. The stone walls in this new garden blend into the hillside seamlessly. The plants are unique to the high mountain desert. If you want a place to find 100s of new species that will grow in the Wasatch area, this is it. The garden is fun to visit in all seasons and has the best concert venue in this area. I highly recommend it!

The gardens are lush and well maintained, They're set against a backdrop of tall mountains. Their wedding area/pavilion is beautiful.

Loved walk around this garden! The views are gorgeous and so many different areas to look at. A little hilly but nothing a sit on bench or two cannot fix! Grab a map cause it can get a little confusing to navigate back to the entrance!

These gardens are absolutely beautiful. If you have even an ounce of interest in nature, make time for this! There are some fun gardens and things for kids as well so it would be a wonderful family outing, or really anyone. I will definitely go back!

I visited the garden with my wife and we enjoyed it a lot. We walked for hours and it is a beautiful place. The tour on the trolley was also excellent. The Natural History Museum is located at a very short walking distance from this garden.

Beautiful gardens with a nice variety of plants and flowers along with great views of SLC. We got in free since we are members at the Dallas Arboretum and they have a reciprocal arrangement. So, not sure on the value.

My favorite parts of the gardens are along the creek and the wonderful area that is all plants native to Utah. Peaceful, beautiful, and very special. Also a fabulous gift shop with interesting pieces.

Not easy to get to but well worth the effort. We took the local tram but it stops a mile short with no clear directions to the garden. We were fortunate that local Americans took us to the fron door, suggest if unsure then get a taxi. The gift shop has some fantastic items on sale.

This is a venue not to miss. Any season actually. These gardens are stunning. There is an entry fee. However a few times a year they open the gardens to the public.
I love this space because of the access to the wonderful outdoors. The scenes across the Salt Lake Valley from this location in Research Park is breath taking. The fall colors are not to pass up.
And the Red Butte staff and volunteers do a great job for me, the casual visitor.
This is a very family, singles, couples, stroller friendly and accessible place. There is a kid zone. Lots of places to sit and ponder. Even a place for selfies with garden and valley views.
Don't miss the Orangerie Event space with lovely tropical plants.

A wonderful garden. Would have liked to be there on a different day to get the full experience. It was a hot day and there was limited shade.

This is a beautiful Arboretum to enjoy any time of year. But unquestionably the best part of this place is the summer concert series where you can see some of the best musical artists in the entire world close-up, in a small, intimate setting, and bring your own picnic and wine and beer to enjoy the show! Definitely a unique experience for the usually alcohol-free Salt Lake City area.

An education, a delight, a real find. Can't wait for another chance to visit. Fabulous gift shop too.

Red Butte gardens was a very fun visit while in Salt Lake. The gardens are lovely, fun winding paths leading through a variety of plants. As it is still early spring, many things haven't bloomed yet, but it was still fun to see some of the plants that don't flower. We also enjoyed the trails up above the gardens which offer some nice views of Salt Lake and a pleasant walk. Only complaints were that staff didn't know what the Stone House up in the trail areas was, and had trouble speaking up through masks while interacting. Otherwise we had a great experience and would definitely come back, especially when more things are in bloom!

This was a great way to end our vacation out west. We had 3 hours to kill before our flight left SLC. The staff were very cordial and helpful. The layout was very well thought out. There was plenty of places to rest or have lunch. Very scenic views. The gardens were very well maintained and there were a lot of workers very busy attending to the flowers, plants, etc. very worth while visit. We enjoyed it immensely.

What a pleasant surprise this beautiful botanical garden and arboretum turned out to be. We stumbled upon it at the top of the University of Utah campus i'm thoroughly enjoyed our time wondering what they talk to the power man-made trails display gardens, walking paths and natural areas and hiking trails the red Butte Garden offered. The trails leading towards the water conservation garden, water pavilion garden, the fragrance garden, medicinal garden, and herb garden and a playful children's garden. They also have a rose garden and floral walkway that lead to one of my favorites the pear arbors.
I highly recommend this wonderful place to anybody who enjoys a stroll through the garden. I can't wait for a return visit.

Wife and I visited here on a Saturday afternoon. Easy parking. Just $28 for both of us seniors. Spent over 2+ hours leisurely walking the many floral lined paths. Areas to sit and just relax and observe the views and the beauty. Observed seating setups for two weddings in beautiful surroundings. Also saw wedding reception hall being setup that offered beautiful views.

Gardens are beautiful and make for a relaxing time. Spend as little or as much time enjoying the various gardens including a children's garden, herb garden, water conservation area and the rose gardens were gorgeous!

Very hot visit, but it was free admission because of Labor Day. there were many people and there are many choices of types of plant to view. Children's garden, medicinal garden, rose garden, even fruit orchards. I was not surprised to find many inns and greenhouses (not ironic at all) in the Wizards Unite game located around the paths. you must walk to find them.

A beautifully impressive garden for all to see. We went in the early evening to beat the heat of the day and were rewarded with a very peaceful stroll through the lovely landscapes. The playful additions of LEGO art sculptures as well as ponds, bridges and metal sculptures added both beauty and whimsy. A definite must see!

The beautiful gardens at Red Butte on a sunny summer day were a perfect combination with the natural history museum that is right next door. We particularly liked the children's garden and the section with cacti and desert flora. The lavender was especially photogenic, as was the entire garden, which sits in the foothills of the majestic Wasatch Mountains. Be careful of bees if you are allergic, however, as there was one section with an enormous number of bees flying all over. Overall this is a gorgeous garden and well worth visiting.

there wasn't much to see in March as the flowers are not blossoming yet. probably later in spring will the garden be more beautiful

lovely walking trails, beautifully manicured botanicals, great place to enjoy beauty and exercise. Recommended highly.

Red Butte Garden is stunningly beautiful. It’s many gardens in one with a rose garden, desert landscape, butterfly garden, a children’s garden, pond and more. It’s a treasure on the east bench of Salt Lake City that is lovely in any season. It also offers gardening workshops, family activities, and a truly awesome concert venue. I enjoy their native plant sale twice a year and spend too much in their unique gift shop. I love this place, especially at sunset.

I saw this garden not knowing what it would offer. IT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! The garden was much larger than I thought, and it offered many engaging settings and views for the entire family, including a fun area for kids. You can walk upward and see wonderful views of the valley, and walk along streams and ponds. You will see unexpected beautiful sculptures and statues; you will see different colors and textures. This garden should not be missed, entertaining for all ages, and I would return again.

Nice venue to sit on lawn and enjoy the music coming from the stage. Not a bad place in the house. Visited the garden the next day and it was nice...still being developed.

It is very beautiful and smells lovely. It is a very peaceful place. You need to plan enough time if you really want to get your moneys worth because it is huge. I do feel like it is a bit pricey, especially if you get there at the end of the day. They do have a gift shop.

A lovely place to visit and see flowers. It is also a place that has wonderful music concerts in the summer. Very nice venue.

I had a lovely visit to the Red Butte Garden. It is well maintained with many little pathways, sitting areas and different sections with different plants and grass. They did a great job in decorating it for Halloween. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great photo opportunities and beautiful views. I hope to return here again in the future.

We spent an informative morning wandering around these beautiful gardens. They are well laid out with such a variety of interesting shrubs, flowers and trees.
As a visitor to Salt Lake City we had to get an Uber to the garden as we were unaware of any public transport which we could use to get there from the centre of the city. This added to the total cost of a morning’s visit. Also disappointed that there was no coffee shop ( bottled water is available to purchase) .

Beautiful garden near the University of Utah! Well maintained and lovely. This is definitely worth a few hours if you are in Salt Lake City.

We've been to a lot of botanical gardens and Red Butte Garden was the best we've ever been to. The medicinal plant area was huge.

It's OK, but nothing spectacular. I feel the flower gardens at the Mormon Temple are better. There are displays that give tips on setting up a garden like what flowers to plant that don't require a lot of water. Or planting different types of flowers that require a lot of watering in one area. There is also a pond, but there were hundreds of bugs fling around. I can't imagine what that area would be like in July or August.

The Red Butte Garden displays plants from all over the world! There are separate sections ranging from medicinal herbs to fragrance walk. Each section is unique and informative with labels spread around for people to read the origin and use of each plant.

Had our wedding here! It was amazing! We got married in the Rose Garden. The staff was great and extremely helpful. Robin was great to work with and assisted us with everything.

Any time there is a concert at Red Butte, I will try to go. I personally like the idea of a concert outside in a really relaxing "garden" atmosphere with a great accoustic echo of the blues (I've seen Gary Clarke, Jr. there twice - going on a third time - this month). To me, it's relaxing despite the crowd. However, in the times I've gone here for a concert, everyone is very friendly and mellow (could be the genre of music the artist is from that affects that vibe).
Red Butte allows you to bring in a cooler with your own food and beverages (alcohol included) to sit on the grass and enjoy your concert with. In the many times I've gone, I end up sharing our cooler with whomever sits next to us as they do too! I probably will never see these people again, but the ambiance is so chill, we all don't care and just enjoy the evening in the gardens. For concerts, there are usually other booths for food and drink, but they're expensive and not as good as what you can bring with your own cooler.
The gardens themselves when there's not a concert are beautiful and peaceful to walk (as long as the rest of the patrons are) and they make for a good use of a free afternoon

These gardens are high on everyone's list for a reason, and now my wife and I can say "Ditto". We spent two hours there, but could have easily spent another two hours. My wife is an artist and loves to photograph flowers. She had an amazing selection to choose from.
The weather on this 2nd day of October was very nice. The paths throughout the gardens are easily accessible. I don't usually like to go thru gift shops, but there's was very, very nice and a wide assortment of items and gifts and books.
Entrance fee for seniors is $12 each.

Did this immediately after the Museum of Natural History. You can walk from one to the other. Well marked trails and very attractive gardens. Well worth your visit.

What a treasure! The views and scenery are fantastic! There is plenty of options for a beautifal walk or they have trails you can hike. A must see in Salt Lake City!

Took my 2 year old son and my 13 year old daughter. the many plant species and the lay out is just beautiful! I wish my yard looked like this. Make it to the top and rest and take in the view of Salt Lake City. I can only imagine a sunset or sunrise from the top. The staff are very kind and helpful. We were in a heatwave but there are little misters to help cool you off and places for kiddos to play in sprinklers

This is a nice mid-size botanical garden complex with lots of variety. The upper section appears to have been opened within the past year or so, and the plantings are still maturing. Now they seem to be embarking on renovation of a couple of the older gardens. The gardens are on a hillside above the university (shuttle carts are available if the climbing is too much for you) and provide nice views up into the nearby foothills. There is an outdoor music venue adjacent to the gardens, which would seem to be a relaxing venue for Summer evening concert.

I visited here after the Natural History Museum, both great places. It was so beautiful. Not the easiest place to get to if you don't have a car, but it was worth the walk.

I have been to other gardens that cost money and at the end of the 30 minute walk i say to myself wow that was not worth it. But feel confident in this place 100% worth! Be planed to spend 2 to 3 hours seeing everything.

I have been to botanical gardens all over the world, and the Red Butte Gardens are astonishing: the variety of plants and trees, the immaculate condition of the flower beds, the signature, and the splendor of the setting all conspire to make a visit here a requirement for any visitor to Salt Lake City, plant lover or not.

The red butte gardens offer so much in enjoyment of the many flora and fauna of Utah but the new conservation garden is on a new level. Beautifully presented, it shows how anyone can add elements that will help the environment in their own way. Don't miss this wonderful new place.

Outstanding gardens and knowledgable guides. Could have spent all day there. Great way to spend the day

We are passing through on our way to Yosemite and needed a driving break. We stopped here for a couple hours. The grounds were well manicured and pleasantly eye opening. It was not only beautiful, I learned a lot, as each growth was labeled with some information. Staff was very pleasant.

One of coolest places in the Salt Lake City area. I used to teach yoga in at an overlook of the concert area and the incredible fragrance of the garden would imbue the serenity of Shavasana. Check out the gift shop, go to the concerts, walk the pathways and become a member!

Even though we felt it was a little too expensive to enter the gardens they were very beautiful and well maintained. Some very interesting plants from all over the world and some very good planting ideas too! You also have one of the best views over Salt Lake City right to the salt flats. There is also a very nice area for children to play.

Even though not all flowers were in bloom, the garden was still beautiful! Walking around was very peaceful and it was a beautiful day. The views from the top were great and we loved it!

Unfortunately the weather on the day we visited was heavy drizzle & overcast so we did not see the garden at its best but even so it was still impressive. There are paved paths & a few dirt tracks but mainly all areas are accessible to wheelchairs & strollers. The garden is also well served with restrooms! The area around the water conservation garden has recently been redeveloped & looks most impressive. Once the planting 'fills out' it will be a 'must-see' To the north & east of the garden are numerous walking trails taking you to an elevation of almost 5500ft. The visitor centre has a shop with interesting items for sale. There is no café but the Natural History Museum next door (walking distance) has a café. Both attractions are a short, easy drive from downtown Salt lake City.

Salt Lake City has many outstanding sights. One we especially recommend is the Red Butte Garden. It offers something new every day, and we enjoyed the electric tram that offers a faster way of getting around the many trails. The flowers, plants and trees are remarkable. It is not surprising that this is a popular wedding location with facilities specifically provided for the happy occasion. Along with the natural delights are the various objects created by LEGO bricks. My favorite is the Praying Mantis. This is a family friendly location away from the buildings of downtown.

The SLC culture of lining up to run for patches of grass to reserve “seating” has got to go! Not only do people lay out blankets 6x4 but then they set up chairs. Waste of space IMO
A huge area in middle reserved with more chairs and never filled up. Waste of space IMO
The place was packed yet only about 1/4 in attendance danced.
The culturally acceptable dance area was stage right where you couldn’t even see the musicians really.
It’s a concert venue like most city’s have free concerts in yet Red Butte charges for tickets.
I like that you can bring food and beer. Suggestion though that chairs and 6x4 ground covering swaths be banned.
Even if you waited in line and got up front you’d still have a hard time not pissing off people by dancing in front of those seated.
This venue is best left for the baby boomer scene and the fine folk who buy tickets to a show to get out of the house.
If you are a seasoned concert goer you will loathe the culture at this place. If you don’t care show up early get in line and get up front.!
Multiple people bringing in 6 chairs to set up and save for friends.
Great concert from one of my favorite bands. Unfortunately I shared it with most of a venue that had never heard of them!

Last year, we attended a concert there in the Amphitheater. Beautiful location, lots of parking and great sound. Can’t wait to return this year.

Wow! This place is so pretty, great gardens, and amazing views. Parking was easy and there is an attached amphitheater that was having a concert that night. Would be a great place to hear music.

We arrived, having seen rate as much lower than we were charged ($38, 1 adult, 2 seniors) which was supposed to be the summer best rate. Pretty place but could have seen many places similar for free. Disappointed.

Wonderful gardens nestled into the east bench of SLC up against the mountains. A small stream flows through to provide water features. Native plants galore. Occasional wildlife (mostly deer, rattlers...don't worry, they aren't aggressive). This trip is Not for flora indifferents.

Went to a wedding there. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Easy access and great views of the valley

There are some negative reviews and I imagine that they came at the wrong time of year. We just spent a lovely morning in September and found the garden to be wonderful. The paths are clean and paved, the surrounding mountains are impressive, the millions of flowers and plants are well labeled and well tended. There are so many mini gardens like a fragrant flower garden, a herb garden, a drought tolerant garden etc. There are cute animal water fountains, lots and lots of comfortable seating and lovely bench swings that are super fun to sit in while in the lovely gardens. Tickets are super cheap. The only thing this time of year is that after the early hours the temperature gets unbearably hot.

My wife and I visited RBG in early October on our last afternoon in Salt Lake City. The garden is peaceful, refreshing, and has a nice view of Salt Lake City and the valley below. The pathways are paved, and are OK for pushed wheelchairs. Expect gentle slopes up and down on the walkways.

Red Butte Gardens are beautifully maintained in varying settings. There are numerous opportunities to sit, relax and enjoy the scenery. There is a delightful children’s area as well among the plantings.
There are walks which are flat and some with elevation within the twenty acres.
An enjoyable exhibition of LEGO statues is currently included among the Gardens.

We visited on a sunny Fall day and the garden showed in all it glory. Nestled in to hill, and well thought out with a good display of water tolerant plants for the Utah area. Well recommended for anyone interested in horticulture, or just for a scenic walk.

You would never think there would be such a beautiful place as this in the foothills of Salt Lake City. The staff was very helpful and even takes you on a cart ride around the facility before you start out on your own if you wish. It's easy walking with places to rest and even an out crop area in the shade to eat your lunch. We brought ours in. All the displays are maticulous and cared for on a daily basis. If you'd like you could schedule your wedding there in the rose garden!

Red Butte gardens has a beauty worth contemplating in any season. The gardens are beautifully done and range from formal to natural displays. Wonderful site for weddings, and summer concerts can’t be missed.

i really liked the rose test garden and the scenic trail down to it :) You can cut through the trees on a path or take the whole trail but it's really pretty

Beautiful gardens. When we arrived, it had just stopped raining. The Sun came out and the gardens looked spectacular. We will definitely return on our next visit to Salt Lake City. It reminds me a lot of Butchart Gardens, but maybe not as large. Definitely worth visiting. Peaceful, beautiful setting mountainside.

Fantastic gardens, beautifully kept. Lots of plants similar to those in my UK garden. Had a guided tour in a golf cart which was really worthwhile and free. That helped when touring the garden afterwards. There are also wild trails you can do. We were there about 2 hours but could easily do more. Highly recommended

If you like nature and the study of desert plants, this is for you. It was the only thing our family could agree on. It also accommodated my elderly relatives. Very serene.

Have always wanted to check this place out... What a very hidden treasure. Was wowed from the mi yet I drove up.

We visited red butte garden in April 2021. People were not wearing masks and the administration did nothing to ask people to wear masks. The garden wore a barren look with very few flowers. The children garden was most disappointing with a dirty pond, and a maze. The pond was algae stricken and loaded with fallen sticks. A waste of money!!

We visited this beautifully landscaped botanic garden on the mountain side. We saw hummingbirds darting to the fragrant flowers.
There were many interesting sculptures interspersed as well as fountains. There are separate herb and rose gardens.
The children garden was wonderful and there was a school group that appeared to be enjoying it. There were some cute fairy gardens

My family enjoys visiting botanical gardens when we travel and Red Butte Garden is one of the best we have seen. Each section of the garden was beautiful, and my kids loved the Lego creations. The overlooks in the desert-themed section provided amazing views. We went right when it opened, and had a nice cloud cover so did not get too hot.

One of my favorite spots in salt lake. The views are stunning. Even in February the gardens are nice, but when everything is in bloom, it is just sublime. This is a don’t miss spot in salt lake.

We saw this was ranked high for attractions in the Salt Lake City area. We were surprised and disappointed with the condition of the gardens. There were weeds in a number of areas, removal of dead plant material needed, and wilted flowers that needed to be pruned. We just expected it to be more beautiful than it was. Hopefully it was just a bad day and they can clean it up a little- I wish them the best because it could be really nice with a little TLC.

I took the tram tour rather than walking the entire garden since I had limited time. But the guide did tell me if I walked up to the native garden there was a lookout point where you could see all of Salt Lake City and part of the Great Salt Lake from the view. Magnificent!

Beautiful gardens are nestled in the high benches of Salt Lake City. Meandering from garden to garden, I leanred about plants and tress I have been seeing in the mountain west that I knew nothing. about. The rose garden is absolutely beautiful. I had no idea such beautiful roses can be grown in this part of the country. The uppermost gardens have spectular views of the city. This botanical site is a gem. I was to go seasonally

We thought the gardens were very nice. A very nice walk as well. Wish that more of the flowers had been in bloom, but that is hit or miss. The Rose Garden was absolutely beautiful.

We went for an evening stroll through the gardens. It was much different than I expected but I loved it. You can wander around as you please, stay as long as you want, sit and enjoy the flowers and views on the many benches scattered through the gardens. I saw a few people reading in various locations, which makes me want to go back and spend a good portion of a morning-midday there with a book abcs some snacks. The fragrance garden was my favorite. We ended our walk with the sunset over the city and the gift shop.

Truly amazing how many varieties of flowers and plants we saw! Many areas to sit under shade to relax. You'll get your exercise for the day! So well put together. Bring enough to drink.

A superb garden experience enhanced by a narrated tour guide on a golf cart. Beautifully laid out with paved walkways and benches, and swings for a rest along the way.

We often go for the concerts at Red Butte which are fantastic. The sound system and seating are just splendid. We did go to a concert this time as well, but we also had some time to take in the gardens as well. Nothing short of spectacular. The variety of plants and flowers and climate displays is awesome. It is a photographers delight. It is hot walking around the many acres of well manicured gardens but here are some shady places to hide out when you are overheating. There is also a garden dedicated for kids so don't let that keep you from experiencing this fine garden. There are also some fine hiking trails directly attached to the east end of the garden.

Visited this botanical garden while on our vacation to Salt Lake City with the husband. Very pretty, beautifully maintained. Has numerous different gardens - flower garden, medicinal garden, they have a small waterfall, visitor center, courtyard, orangerie. It's $14/person which is reasonable. It was really hot on the day we went so while we saw mostly everything it was difficult to spend a lot of time looking at the different gardens. We were very impressed with how well maintained it was, and would have loved to spend more time in the different areas were it not for the excessive heat. Parking is free and ample. Would recommend! Right next to the Natural Science Museum.

Most people spend about an hour and a half in the Garden, but my husband and I spent all day there (except for lunch). We arrived just after it opened at 9:00 a.m., and we started exploring. The gardens are gorgeous, and the environment is relaxing and quiet. We walked through a couple of the garden themes, and then we jumped on an official tour of the entire venue. We went for lunch and then came back for the afternoon of walking through the rest of the gardens. Although there were people around, it was serene and relaxing. We learned a great deal about plants, especially the medicinal flowers and herbs. The Children's Garden has a water fountain that they can play in. There are hiking trails behind the garden that people can access if they want as well.
The Garden has a wonderful gift shop with great books and gifts. It was hard to stay disciplined because there is such a variety of goodies to buy! In the gift shop, there are snacks and drinks/water available, but there is not a cafe or restaurant there. There are also water stations available if you bring a water bottle to fill up. This is a great place to bring food and have a picnic. (We went out to lunch at a nearby restaurant and came back to the Garden for the afternoon.)
There was a concert planned for the evening, so the Garden closed at 5:00 p.m. The important thing to know about this is that some of the various bathrooms are closed on the day of a concert. If you have to go to the bathroom, you must walk back to the main visitor's center to use them. Plan accordingly!
The price for the Garden is very reasonable. My husband is a grad student, and he received the student rate. The admission for both of us cost less than lunch! As we were nearing the end of our afternoon there, we both agreed that if we lived near the Red Butte Garden, we would become members because it is a great place to relax, have some quiet walking time, and enjoy nature! We loved it. Hope you do too!

Our favorite outdoor spot in the SLC area! Free admission for American Horticultural Society (AHS) members and reciprocally with other botanic gardens. There are paths leading back into the wild land up canyon behind the garden. The garden faces southwest and has a more Mediterranean climate than nearby locations. In the winter, the main paths are usually open and safe to walk because they are free of ice; visit the conservatory to warm up. In summer, it gets hot!

Yes it is November and knew the gardens might not be at their best but didn’t expect to see nothing but dead or dormant vegetation and trees. We even asked prior to getting tickets if it was worth seeing and was told there was still nice stuff to see. What irks me is that they continue to charge full price to see dead stuff! I was able to speak with the executive director who said that we still got to take a nice walk! Well I can walk for free any number of places!!! Then he just smiled and said”sorry” I’m sure it is beautiful other times if the year from the pics I’ve seen but I wouldn’t bother going until spring unless you want to get ripped off like we did

In the Hills surrounding the downtown Salt Lake City area is Red Butte Gardens. Visitors will find a variety of breathtaking Flora, walking trails, magnificent views, and tranquility as they taken the beauty of this Valley. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to add to their trip to Salt Lake.

We visited in April when many flowers are not yet blooming. There are many daffodils and hyacinths blooming now all over the grounds. There are nice paths that lead to each of the gardens. The children’s garden is cute and even our teens liked it. The path to the waterfall is a must see. There is a nice bench the sit and enjoy the waterfall.
I would love to see a concert at that concert venue.

We took the kids to see the lego creations, amazingly tucked in with the beautiful nature of this garden in full bloom. Completely wonderful, esp for my grandson to read how many bricks needed for each art work. The flowers were all stunning and immensely populated for the long walk.

We flew into Denver and went to the Denver Botanic Gardens which were full of colourful flowers and plants. After that the Red Butte Garden was a disappointment with few colourful flowers.

Red Butte is a wonderful place to spend a few hours wandering and relaxing. Plenty of nature and epic views of the valley.

This is a beautiful garden, well worth a a few hours to read the extensive and educational signage. But something unique is they have miles of hiking trails also. Even if you don’t have a long time, make sure to walk a while under the oaks tunnel ! I am posting some pictures.

We visited the gardens on a warm and sunny day. There were some plants flowering, and the grounds are gorgeous!

I am spoiled rotten because of this place. I hate going to other venues because they just aren't as cool. This place is all outside and you can bring in whatever you want. Blankets and alcohol and everyone behaves like adults and has a good time. This is my FAV venue in Utah!

This garden is easy to access . The roses in my opinion are the showcase of this place. There are several selfie stations where you can take photos with great backgrounds. There is a tram that takes you around the periphery. The view from the top of the Garden is great according to the docent on a clear day you can see over 100 miles.

Red Butte Garden is my go-to place when family is visiting from out of state. Built in the foothills adjacent to the University of Utah, it provides a wonderful view of the valley, and in the distance, Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. Entering the visitors' center, there is a registration desk, gift shop, restrooms and drinking fountain. From there, take the elevator or the stairs up to the second floor where there are monthly displays of one artist's work, and sometimes, flowers. Exiting to the patio outside, there are always beautiful things to see, whatever the season. Tables on the patio are used for picnics, snacks or a meeting point. The gardens are beautiful, educational, kid-friendly, peaceful, and constantly growing There are spots to rest in the different types of gardens. The altitude may affect some, but there is a service cart for elderly (from 11-1, I think, but call to be certain. You can cross the road to the Museum of Natural History snack shop if you get hungry. There is not a Museum charge if you only attend the snack bar, and you can scope out your next day's tour site.

Red Butte is one of the best botanical gardens I've ever visited, in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia. High above Salt Lake City, it's a large and varied garden -- mainly outdoors -- with a focus on local plants. It's beautifully maintained, and is in a setting with mountains and hiking trails just behind it. My wife and I are members, and enjoy stopping by for visits of any length. Of course, in the depths of winter Red Butte is less beautiful than in spring, summer and fall, but it's worth a visit any time.

My friend and I visited here while were in town to visit a friend in the ICU at the University of Utah hospital. It was the perfect antidote to the sterile hospital setting. The grounds were just lovely to wander and the view down over the city from the top with all of the fall colors below were beautiful. It would be a really nice place to bring someone in a wheel chair to enjoy nature and the many variety of plants. They also had a very nice gift shop with many unique items.

Use space perfectly to build the garden along the hill, lots of local plants and flowers. Enough of information wrote on each plant sign tag, very interesting to know. Organize very well and clean, too .

This is a great garden and outdoor area if you want some nice views. We went in October, and there was still enough there to make it worth it. They were still setting up for Halloween, but I imagine holiday things are fabulous. Easy walkways, clean entry building, and easy on-site parking.

We walked the paved paths for a couple of hours in the early afternoon and appreciated the signage; virtually every plant variety has an easy-to-read sign listing the name, growing zones, and growing conditions. The upper gardens featured low water ground covers; they really had a large variety. The lower gardens had plenty of flowering plants and ornamental trees. Roses were not in season.

I have long loved wandering Red Butte Garden, but love it even more after hosting a banquet in the Orangerie. The location couldn't be better. We worried a bit about not having centerpieces for the table, but you don't need centerpieces when everything around you is simply gorgeous.

The Gardens are very well maintained. we spend some time there . The information of every growth is labeled. so, we learned a lot from these. staff was very pleasent.

Definetly a MUST SEE for those who can physical handle the hikes and trails. We climbed to the very top outdoor path. An amazing veiw awaits you from there. The garden is well planned and so beautiful, USE THE CONNECT PASS to save on admission,

Wonderful garden setting at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Many walking trails, creeks and bridges. Nice quiet atmosphere.

There is so much to see in this gorgeous garden. Lots of greenery and flowers. Perfect to pass a few hours.

So glad we stopped here. It is a very beautiful garden in a great location. It was towards end of season and past its prime, but we still enjoyed it immensely. You can use steps to get to other levels or use the meandering paths.

The grounds were beautiful but, everything was dead. 😅 Most places will tell you or not even be open or offer a discount for the off season so we were sad but, at least enjoyed the small hikes ( though many completely dead ended) and views and grounds. We went March 28th. Also, we bought tickets Online and when I walked in there was a long line so I asked a woman who worked there if we could just go in and showed her our tickets and she said no, wait in line, so, that was a bad process because we had to west for others who hadn’t purchased their tickets yet when we should have been able to scan and go. Otherwise, it’s a beautiful place, especially for a wedding! The Rose Garden and waterfall area was my favorite.

This little park is well-maintained, but very small. Easy to visit when you re walking downtown. Convenient location.

I’ve only gone to the red butte gardens a handful of times. Obviously in the fall/winter it’s not quite as beautiful but the view of the valley are still nice. We’ve been to a concert and that was a lot of fun. Overall it is very pretty and well laid out and well maintained.

I was a bit confused on where to go/start; the girl at the counter could see I was clueless on where to go but was not helpful in showing me⁉️she had recommended a trail but didn't give directions on how to get there. I spent a bit of my time trying to find my way to an actual trail...after I finally found one, I found the trails to not be marked well. I spent most of my day wandering. They were having a wedding so the rose garden was blocked off. I would go back to attempt a trail up the mountain....next time. Thankful it was a gorgeous day to wander...

Along with the groomed garden, with many specialty areas and abundant plant tags ( I LOVE that), you also have the option of hiking into the hills above the garden. This garden is really wonderful.

I could tell this would be a very beautiful place once everything was blooming again. There was still some areas with snow, and the lake was half frozen. It was still a beautiful place to visit, and see new things.

It was a very large and accessible garden. There was a lego exhibit hidden throughout the gardens which was fun for our kids to search and find. They have a hide and seek app for the older kids. We just walked around the gardens but they offer miles of other hikes. Amazing views from the upper trails.

Loved this walk through this well planned out garden. Nice for an afternoon or a picnic. Liked the small areas for the kids to play.

Even though winter is fast approaching the ground are beautiful and the place is worth visiting. Bring a jacket this time of year as the breeze from the mountains can give you a chill.

I have been here twice now, most recently with my wife and mother. This is perhaps the best outing one can have in Salt Lake City. The gardens are vast and varied and very beautifully cultivated. There is a kid's section and an amazing pond are thrown into this fabulous mix. The gardeners we spoke to loved what they were doing and answered all the questions we peppered them with. Definitely worth the admission price, the experience and fauna gives you a comprehensive understanding about Utah's diverse plant life. To experience all the gardens (and perhaps a trail or two) will take at least two hours at a leisurely pace. Visitors are allowed to picnic as well as there is an ample amount of benches and tables in a multitude of nooks spread throughout the gardens. Will visit again on any future trips to SLC.

I live in PA. In my judgment, the Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square PA may be the most beautiful in the United States. While these gardens do not compare to Longwood, they are truly lovely. Longwood takes a day. My family toured these gardens in just two hours, but it was two hours very well spent.

I do love seeing beautiful floral arrangements and learning more about native wildlife, but what set this garden aside was the number of gorgeous hiking trails and viewpoints visible throughout the garden and grounds. What a great way to spend a sunny afternoon.

My friends and I, with a couple of hours to kill one Sunday morning in Salt Lake City, went to Red Butte Gardens on a whim. We were astonished by its beauty, its design and layout, and by the care the gardeners took in manicuring the plants.
Owned and operated by the University of Utah's department of botany, it surely ranks among the most spectacular public gardens in the world.
The garden is well worth a special trip, and if you visit Salt Lake City, put Red Butte Garden on your "must see" list.

Plenty of shaded walk ways made for a cool stroll through this wonderful garden. The roses were very fragrant as well. Definitely worth the visit!

If you're a nature/plant/flower lover, this is the place for you. The entire property is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. It has several different gardens to explore. The fragrance garden is really neat, as is the walk around the water garden. They were having a plant sale there Saturday, which was also cool to see.
The trails that go around the property and up on the hill are also a great way to get a view of the mountains. I ended up walking around to the quarry house but I saw a lot of people taking a longer trail up the hill. It was a little steep, so I wouldn't recommend people who can't walk well to trek off the pavement.
It was less than $15 to get admission to the place and they had fun little gifts to give people back home. Parking is in the front and it's walking distance from the Natural History Museum. If you take an Uber, it's about $12-$13 one way. I thought about trying to master the TRAX and bus system but ended up chickening out.

We actually went here to kill some time but the gardens were very well done and covered a vast area. The bonus for the time-frame we attended was the Lego art displays spread throughout the gardens. Very impressed with the prolific labels of most all plants in he garden as well as the different sections to include medicinal plants, a kids area with hidden paths, as well as a few ponds and lawns. Expect to spend about 2 hrs.

My first stop in Salt Lake on a sunny cool day. Spent about two hours wandering and I would've spent an hour on the wooden swing if I hadn't gotten hungry for lunch. Plenty of paved trails and wayside benches make these gardens highly accessible with a few dirt trails and waterside stepping stones as well. I hope to back another day with ample water and a picnic lunch. (Don't forget, if you're a botanical garden member elsewhere, show your card and you may get in for free; I did, though I would have been happy to pay the $14 entrance fee)

We stopped by in the morning before catching our flight out. it is a good place to kill few hours. The garden is divided into areas and most plants have ID and info which can help you plan your own garden for those who want to learn more. The rose garden and the fragrant garden are very enjoyable. On the top level, you have a great view of Salt Lake City, great relaxing time!

What a great thing to have in an urban area as a place to get away to enjoy nature and what it has to offer. If you are a hiker, there are a lot of trails for you. If you are a flower lover, this is a place to satisfy your senses. The amount of time you spend will depend on how much of the hiking trails you want to follow. We were there for a couple of hours and probably saw about 1/2 of the gardens and other areas. A real treat.

We enjoyed the herb, medicinal, floral, water conservation, and rose gardens. They are well tended. We saw a rattle snake in the water conservation area. The plant labels are very informational. The best part of the gardens though was the children’s gardens. This area included a sand box, an amphitheater which seating are huge iguanas, a maze made of vines over metal, a waterfall, hide and seek dragons. This was a fun area. I would go back again in different seasons. This was worth $14 for myself, and $12 for my husband who is over 65.

We visit botanical gardens everywhere we go, and Red Butte Garden is quite impressive. Most of the plants are well-labeled (something I judge as essential), and the various areas are well coordinated, such as the medicinal garden, etc. The children's area is well-thought-out, with hedge tunnels, a mini-picnic table, lizard statues to climb on, and more. Being from Arizona, we were particularly interested in the relatively new xeriscape garden, where I found plants I knew and some I will investigate further. Walking up the hill to the top of this area gives you a great view of the city. Although the day was much hotter than we expected, there are ample shady areas. I would also highly recommend the gift shop.

We visited the gardens in early September on a cool morning and didn't feel the gardens were busy at all due to the limited capacity. We probably saw more staff than visitors.
The various gardens were quite serene and peaceful, and it took us probably about three hours to enjoy everything the gardens had to offer including a short stop in the gift shop. The paths are very stroller friendly and should be walkable for most people. Don't miss the views from the garden up the hill as you get a great view of SLC from there.
Definitely one of the top highlights for anyone spending time in the Salt Lake City area!

The garden is a great place to walk around, plus in the summer it's open late, so a good way to close out a day.

I love to see gardens and Red Butte Garden has both the formal and the natural gardens running up the side of the mountain. We found the natural trail early in our visit and walked for quite a distance before descending down to the formal gardens which were quite extensive. The views of the valley from the mountain were quite spectacular. The variety and extent of the formal gardens were fantastic and I would have taken a much shorter walk on the nature trail had I known how large the formal gardens were. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours.

This is a gorgeous gem of an arboretum and a perfect place to catch a concert. They have classes on various subjects if you're into that sort of thing but I just love to wander around and breathe in the beauty.

The gardens at Red Butte are beautiful. We went an a Saturday morning about 9:30 am and it was still cool and they offered golf cart rides around the garden which was very good for us since my wife has limited mobility.

It's not a bad place. Some nice gardens and you can go decent views of the downtown. But definitely not worth the price of admission when compared to other larger botanical gardens.

Spring is finally blooming at Red Butte. Simply gorgeous blooms and views from the hillside gardens. The uppergardens sre beingdeveloped and promise to be breathtaking!

A lovely walk through the gardens to view the flowers and plantings. It is well maintained. There were many places along the walk where you could sit down and enjoy the scenery or just reflect. Very nice

I recently attended an event at University of Utah. I discovered Red Butte Garden while wandering around the very large campus area of the university. This is such a beautiful garden with meandering walking paths. There is also a natural outdoor amphitheater that features live local music. A must see if you are in the Salt Lake Area. Very relaxing and ample parking.

The gardens are well maintained, they are set against backdrop of tall mountains , overall a worthy visit.

The gardens and grounds are beautifully kept and the variety of plants is very good. There are lots of great views and many quiet spots to sit and relax while enjoying the scents, sites and sounds of this amazing green space. There currently is an awesome Lego exhibit that should not be missed! This spot was the highlight of my visit to SLC.

My husband and I visited the gardens during a short vacation weekend to SLC. It was really fun to walk and see the gardens, each area was unique, and lots of things were blooming already (like the spring bulbs) even though clearly there is more to come in the upcoming months. We spent 1 hour just walking around the landscaped gardens and paved paths; you could spend more time here if you walk further into the wooded areas and rougher paths. This makes an excellent day when paired with the Natural History Museum, which is right next door. The view of the city is excellent because the gardens are up the side of a mountain. Definitely worth the visit!

Loved this garden, views are beautiful. The beautiful gardens at red butte on a sunny summer day were a perfect combination with the natural history meseum.

When we got here, we were greeted and taken on a 15 minute tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and welcomed questions. Since it was the middle of the week, it wasn't too crowded. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surrounding beauty.

A beautiful, interesting and welcoming place. We were warmly welcomed by the front desk staff and then greeted by Charlene who gave us a very interesting tour of the property.
After enjoying the gardens we visited thief art gallery where we met the charming and talented artist Jeanne Hansen.

When the gardens are in bloom they are absolutely beautiful! And a very nice leisurely walk! Hope u enjoy!

I was in SLC for a friend’s wedding, and ended up with some time on my hands. Red Butte Garden seemed like a great choice to spend and afternoon!
I took the tram ride, and the gardens were just stunning. Lots of water, roses, flowers. I was in heaven.
Until I saw the first snake.
Don’t get me wrong, I was told there were snake sightings, and there are signs, but my experience was over the top.
I was walking along and heard a rustling nearby. I looked over and a small light-colored snake was slithering off. No biggee, I’m not afraid of snakes in their own right, and the markings didn’t indicate a harmful species. I continued on my stroll and suddenly I hear a loud hiss. Rattlesnake in strike position! I yelped and leapt off the path. (A guy nearby took some photos.) Definitely terrifying, but I wasn’t hurt and it was near water, so I assumed it was getting a drink. I decided to just go to the rose garden and get away from snake territory. While strolling through the rose garden I saw another snake sunning itself! I’d like to point out that this one was also non-venomous, based on markings. However, three snakes in at most 10 minutes, was just more than I could handle in one day. I’m from Southern Arizona, so I’m well aware of snakes, bugs, etc. but I have never seen a rattler get aggressive before, and it was very alarming.
I made my way out of the gardens and let them know about my rattlesnake encounter. I think I went at prime snake season, and I don’t think mine was a typical experience, but I would like others to be aware. I saw the snake signs and blissfully skipped on my way. If I’d been on the left side of the path instead of the right, I would have been bitten.
This is a stunning garden, and it was heaven to be there, but be safe and aware when you go. Also, I was there in June when it was mid to high 80s.

These gardens are well thought through, landscaped and very interesting. We nearly did not go but were delighted and would urge a visit for anyone interested in plants.

Pack a cooler and a blanket and have yourself a nice family picnic at the Red Butte Garden! So beautiful to see and a great way to spend a few hours with the kids. Breathtaking anytime of year.

Great location for concerts and events. The gardens are immaculate. I have always wanted to go to the Summer Concert series here!

The Garden is near the University of Utah and has indoor and outdoor plants and several beautiful statues.

Even with high temperatures the walk around these magnificent gardens was not too difficult. Up high enough to draw a gentle breeze.
Currently featuring a model of LEGO’s for a large number of floral and park settings. Quite interesting.
If you prefer not to walk there is a motorized cart and guide who can take you on your.
Gardens are perfectly kept. Very enjoyable outing.

I went to this garden and they have little hiking trails to go up (they are narrow and rocky, only recommend if you have tennis shoes and can handle any type of incline), and there is so much there to see. I climbed about half way up one of the trails and have the be overview of the city!

Expected to see a better display of flowers but we saw mostly green. There was also construction going at the time most likely in preparation for the summer.

This garden is extremely well-designed for both display and access, and the setting is beautiful, on an open slope nestled up to a creek and surrounded by mountains. There's an excellent gift shop as well.

After reading about the botanical gardens in a local publication, we decided to visit on a Sunday (fewer visiotrs on a Sunday). It was super hot outside so we didnt stay as long as I hoped to but we were able to see the visiting LEGO's exhibit. There were many huge sculptures in the gardens made entirely out of LEGO's - they were amazing! Some took more than 60,000 LEGO's to complete. The LEGO sculpture exhibit runs through mid-September 2018. There's a map to help you decide if you want to stay on the main, paved trails, or dirt trails for those who like to explore. There are even shaded area with tables and chairs where you can picnic, if you wish. The gardens were very well-maintained and simply beautiful! I recommend visiting during different seasons to see the changing landscapes. Inside the visitors center is a wonderful gift shop. If you don't want to walk (or have limited mobility) around the gardens, there's a complimentary covered trolley/cart that takes visitors throughout the gardens all the while listening to the guide explain the different features of the gardens. Next to the gardens is an amphitheater which hosts many concerts.

We visited these gardens in September 2019. If you are in Salt Lake, please don't miss touring these beautiful gardens. Enjoy walking and relaxing along the walking paths. We were greeted upon arrival and ask if we would lie to tour the gardens with a guide and by cart to get an overview. We were thrilled. Please take advantage of this introduction and be warned, there are rattlesnakes. You do want to stay on the paths and monitor your children and be mindful of snakes, but by all means, enjoy theses beautiful gardens, from the Fragrant Garden, to the Medicinal Garden, the Herb Garden, and the Children's garden. All seasons are beautiful and repeat visits offer the opportunity to see varied landscapes. Memberships are available and worthwhile if you are local. As a member, entrance to the gardens is free. Classes and concerts are available at a discounts. This was a highlight of our recent trip to Salt Lake

Just returned from taking the grandkids to Red Butte Gardens to see the Lego Exhibit they currently have. Wow! Someone has some serious talent building with Legos! A.though we were there mid morning, it was still pretty toasty, but that's to be expected in July in Utah. The gardens are beautiful ant time of the year, and a great place to walk around. I love seeing the variety of plants and like that they are identified for the most part. The kids, age from 2 to 11, and they loved the Lego creations. (Note to grandma- buy more Legos) The kids enjoyed playing in the kids garden area, but would have enjoyed it more had the splash water feature not been filled and taken over by thirsty wasps. Oh well, I guess everything can't be perfect! We downloaded the `Game` on my phone and played for a while. Only stopped because I wanted to take a few pictures. Phone is now dead, so I'll try to add a few later. Exhibit is there til September, I'd go see it even if I didn't take the grandkids!

Even if you are not someone who is particularly interested in plants, this is a wonderful place to take a nice walk and be in nature.
I am new to gardening and have been infuriated by how many of the plants died that two prior landscapers put in our yard (wrong light and or poor planting job). In an effort to educate myself I have been going to the Garden to see what grows here and what sort of light they actually require. It's been a wonderful education. I especially appreciate the signs they provide about the plants. I had been here several times before as well just to stroll, and I enjoyed it just as much. This is worth a visit.

The fragrances were amazing, perhaps because they were intermingled. It was quite exciting, foe me, to see a rattlesnake in it's natural habitat.

Red Butte Garden is a large botanical garden and arboretum maintained by the University of Utah. Located on 100 acres in the foothills on the eastern edge of the University of Utah campus, the garden is open year-round. Consequently, there are 21 acres of developed gardens and five miles of hiking trails winding through an extensive natural area.
We spent a few hours at Red Butte Gardens. We took a complimentary guided tram tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable. He knew all of the plants as well as the history of the gardens, and we found it all very interesting. We loved our visit!

Red Butte Garden is glorious. Walking through the gardens is heavenly.
The concerts are great - I don't like waiting in the heat though to fight for seating. Once I'm there and enjoying the music, it all feels good.
I'm glad they concerts banned the wagons - makes it a little easier to get in and out of the venue.

Passing through Salt Lake City today, this was the only place my wife and I stopped. We loved it, walked through all of the gardens, and would highly recommend it. Only bummer was the gift shop was closed for inventorying.

The Rose Garden was in full bloom and absolutely amazing. I also loved the new Water Conservation Garden which is a great resource to others wanting to modify their gardens to save on water. The Children's Garden was fabulous and if I lived nearby with kids, I'd take them there often. We enjoyed our picnic lunch at one of the several Wayside Pavilions along the lake that provided a sense of isolation and privacy. We spent almost 4 hours there and loved every minute of it.

When I visit SLC I try not to miss stopping by the RBG. This is a professionally run, forward-looking facility that takes advantage of the terrain (flowing stream, mountain slope) - I especially like the combination between beautifully groomed areas and minimally disturbed "wild' sections of the Garden. The emphasis is on local area plants (Southwest desert, mountains, plains) with plants from the East Coast and California and a few exotics from Asia and Europe. The place, is not surprisingly, popular with wedding parties. A definite recommend.

We loved the fragrance garden and the well planned walking paths. Many folks brought meals to eat on the benches in the garden. Hiking trails above the garden offer great views of the city. I would go again.

What a special treat - this is truly a stunning example of what a
Botanical Garden can be -Based upon the amount f time you have available, you can select the route through the garden.
Plants and trees are well signed so you can learn a lot about how certain plants will look when they are full grown or in flower.

Admission to the gardens is quite reasonable and with an annual pass you can stop by anytime for a wander through the gardens or find an awesome picnic spot for a lunch, brunch or dinner. Sunsets are spectacular at the gardens and be sure to check out the summer concert and movie series.

Friends were married here in the gardens and it was the perfect setting! Wandering the gardens is like a slice of heaven. The event room has a living wall and is beautiful. This is a great thing to do when visiting SLC.

This is a beautiful place. The gardens are gorgeous and the walk through the space is easy enough for most everyone. My grandchildren love this place.

As a member of the American Horticultral Society, this is one of many garden that we can visit with the Reciprocity program. We have visited gardens all over the country. This one falls in our top 10. Walking paths are well planned out, great education display gardens and incredibly friendly staff.

Red Butte gardens is up high - so you can look down over Salt Lake City - lots to see here - I recommend taking a ride in one of their park escorted vehicles - then you can walk around afterwards....

Similar to other botanical gardens but very peaceful. Lots of variety of flora with name cards and other information. Good ideas for gardens in a desert environment and very scenic. A pleasure to visit.

Beautiful plants, plantings, pollinators! But they did not tell us when we arrived and paid for entry that there was a warmup happening for a loud rock concert later that afternoon. We were expecting an idyllic nature experience but could not relax due to the deafening noice. We actually had to cut our visit short due to headaches. Please let you patrons know what to expect!

The gardens are beautiful to walk and relax. There are great little areas to sit… swings by little waterfalls, children’s area, fragrant gardens. It’s worth an unwind

Red Butte garden is a lovely place to visit and walk through. At different times of the year you will see a brilliant explosion of colors, and every type of flower and plant that grows in the Utah climate. You can also enjoy this experience while enjoying a wonderful concert. There are many artists of all types that enjoy Red Butte Gardens

Pleasant, interesting series of well cared for gardens. Loved the elevated views and the medicinal garden. I didn't realize there were more extensive hiking trails beyond the gardens, or I would've come prepared to hike instead of stroll. All the green and lush plant life was a welcome sight after spending a week in Moab. No trams running the day I visited, limited parking due to a large group & concurrent bulb sale. Nice gift shop. Easy to visit both the gardens and Museum of Natural Science the same day. Recommend The Porcupine Grill for a meal & beverage afterwards.

I loved so many things about this garden. It was absolutely stunning. I appreciated that it was organized into smaller areas (medicinal plant garden, fragrance garden, rose garden, children's etc) so you could pick what interests you most if you are short on time. They had a LEGO exhibit when I visited that was really fun. There were huge lego sculptures throughout the gardens. There were many cute places to sit under vine covered arbors on benches or swings. I saw many people reading books, sketching, etc and enjoying the views. I didn't have time to do it but heard that there are great hiking trails from the gardens.

Solo visit and wanted a safe place to walk alone and see nature. This was just perfect. Found delightful surprises around every turn. The grounds were impeccably kept with so many surprise details in each beautifully designed space. Water features, singing birds , butterflies & bees doing their thing in a little slice of the garden of Eden. The terraces are set up with beautiful visitas for relaxing after a short hike up. Especially enjoyed the small lake with water swooping barn sparrows and dragonflies. Found benches to rest and lay on along the way. Felt extremely safe as a solo walker and spent 3 full hours taking in all the splendor. The rose garden outdoor house was spectacular and in full bloom. At one point I turned the corner into a fairytale and uttered out loud “I can’t even” and laughed to myself as I was so overwhelmed with the abundance of beauty and tranquility. I knew I would enjoy a park but had no idea I would enjoy it this much. HIGHLY recommend to solo travelers, couples and families. I heard one young boy tell his grandparents that they needed to take the secret passageway into the oak tree canopy. It was so magical for all ages. If you doubt going…don’t! Just do it and breathe in the beauty with all your senses.

Fantastic Gardens, Beautiful Venue, Very Well Maintained and Spotless. A series of different types of plantings in natural form.

Very nice layout and walking paths. We went on the off season so we did not see many flowers however, we did enjoy walking around and seeing the architecture, birds, and river.

21 acres of unique & surprising plants—herbs, trees, flowers—it’s an amazing array of great choices & creative inspiration for home gardens & landscaping ideas! I loved it! The honey bees & bumble bees create beautiful humming filling the air, & along with all the flower scents, it’s an incredible sensory experience! I was here on Memorial Day weekend, on Sunday…It was a cooler, rainy day off & on, & it was magical!

Well I haddn't been there for a year, men, they did a lot of work on it, and expanded the gardens as well, with a beautiful overlook on the valley, made more children’s play area.
It is always a delight to see all the flowers in bloom, and it smells delicious too, nice walking pads , also they have golf carts to drive you around, for the ones that can't walk very well, you can also hop on and off, if you like or get tired. That way you can see most of it too. This year they made Lego forms, of birds plants etc and set it in between the flowers or plants, about 2-3 foot high, it looked like a lot of work and time got into that. Personally I do not care for plastic or fake stuff in a garden, but this was different.
Fun to see, if you know any of the flowers names, also humming birds are plenty, because there is enough nectar for them there, photo's to be taken, around every corner something new.

We loved the walk in the herbal gardens. My brother has a walker and he was able to maneuver pretty well through the paved paths. The fall colors were beautiful.
Glass show was nice added touch.

My family, in-laws, and I were vacationing in Park City and decided to either try the zoo or the Red Butte Garden and opted for the garden. We were so glad we did. The Garden had a Lego Sculpture exhibit going on throughout the garden and my kids loved that. I don't remember how many there were -- I want to say 12 or more -- and they were strategically placed throughout the garden. Just walking through the amazing park and seeing all of the beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees was amazing. It was peaceful despite there being a number of other visitors. Let me say that the rose gardens were the highlight. They were beautifully in bloom. It was hard not to want to just sit down and stay in that part of the garden all day, but we had to move on. My kids also loved the pond with the ducks, waterfall, and water features all throughout. We spent 3 hours at the garden and I wish it had been more! This is a wonderful place to visit with your family.

Wonderful place! Gorgeous plants and flowers, spectacular views of Salt Lake City, easy paths, nice benches - just wonderful in every way. I went twice during a short visit to SLC.

We meant to spend about an hour here but ended up staying more than 3 hours. The gardens are extensive and so beautiful. We went on a very hot day so the plentiful shaded areas were a welcome sight. Hiked up to the "old stone house" which was eerie and amazing. Gorgeous views of downtown SLC and a truly wonderful array of plants. We especially enjoyed the rose garden. We walked up from the Fort Douglas train station -- it is a good 1.5 mile uphill hike. Alternatively you can take a shuttle on weekdays.

I think the stunning views of the mountains coupled with the garden give this place an added touch of beauty. It’s not an unusually large botanical garden but what’s there is not to be missed. It’s close to the University of Utah and maybe 15-20 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City depending on traffic. Added bonus-if you have a membership to a reciprocal botanical garden you can get in free. So do check this out and remember to bring your membership card with you.

Absolutely beautiful. I had an amazing time walking around to this beautiful garden. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Lots of plants, very nice seating areas, and the staff was very helpful when I had questions regarding certain plants.

We went to see the view and sunset, but found a lovely terraced garden. The paths and seating areas were just beautiful, and we especially loved the rose garden.

Awesome! So many different areas, water features, plants, shrubs, trees, and almost a with names and water amounts, and how to care for. Plenty of shady spots for hot days and would be fun in overcast as well, just less sweaty! Gift shop top notch! HD something for everyone from art, practical environmentally friendly gifts, gifts for eater and drinker, and at all price levels! Wish they had Cafe!

We only had 1/2 a day to visit Salt Lake City while waiting to board a flight the next morning. Based on Trip advisor reviews, we explored the Temple Area and then headed up to walk these gardens. What a pleasant surprise! Almost everything in the garden seemed to be blooming, well cared for and thoughtfully planned. What a cute children's area! We had great spring weather, the gardens were not crowded, and we completely enjoyed spending the last day of our vacation in this tranquil spot. We ate lunch in the nearby natural history museum before exploring the gardens. Lunch was good, reasonable and had a great view of the city. We felt the price of the gardens was reasonable for experiencing the wonderful spring blooms. Highly recommend.

Lovely garden with nice water features and large diversity of flowers and plants. A
This is a great place to spend a couple of hours exploring on paved pathways with easy access for all ages. We enjoyed the rose garden an area around the pond. The espalier fruit tree arches were also unique.

This is actually a garden and arboretum. There is quite a variety throughout.
There are several separate sections of different gardens ranging from a local semi-arid garden to a rose garden to a medicinal garden.
There is a main route you can follow that loops 1/2 mile without going "into" the actual gardens. You can take that route and decide what gardens you want to branch off and see. There are even trails off toward the mountains - one has a small waterfall. Took us nearly 3 hours to see what we wanted.

This is a must see when in Salt Lake City. Nestled in the foothills above the University of Utah campus it provides stunning vistas, trails, and beautiful gardens. The gift shop has a wonderful assortment of items for purchase.

This was a beautiful stop! Be sure to go in the morning before it gets too hot. The gardens are beautiful. Informative & pretty!

Visited here on a Saturday summer afternoon. Place was busy but not overcrowded. Grounds are incredibly well maintained and marked to help you understand the plants and trees. A lot of ground to cover but a lot of shade and benches worth stopping to relax.

Went here for the first time. It was quite a bit larger than I had expected. We enjoyed the little waterfalls and fish pond. We enjoyed the good exercise of walking around the place. There are lots of hills so be warned if you have mobility problems. We took my mother who walks with a cane and she could not go very far. So she sat on a bench while we explored the rest of the gardens. Pretty expensive considering they don’t decrease the prices in the off season when nothing is in bloom and all the exhibits are closed. They should discount the admission during the cold seasons.

Based on TripAdvisor reviews, my husband and I decided to visit the Red Butte Garden. This place is simply a marvel.
The planted gardens themselves are beautiful. Even though we visited in mid- October, the roses were still blooming, and the fragrance garden was delightful. Given recent lower rainfall totals in my home state, I was particularly intrigued with the water conservative garden.
What we truly enjoyed was the hike on Zeke’s trail, where the fall colored leaves in the canyon contrasted marvelously with the sage green and brown hills of the surrounding mountains.
We spent hours at the gardens, gathering some of the best fall photos we had ever taken.
These are exceptionally well-planned gardens, and my only regret is that we cannot visit them all year long.

Had a fun walk around seeing Lego sculptures and pretty flowers. Water garden and children's garden were nice, but Rose garden was excellent.

This is a beautiful and relaxing experience. An incredible array of flowers, shrubs and trees. there is a small lake (with fish and ducks). It's a great place for picnics. There are benches along the way and motorized carts for those unable to walk long distances.

Red Butte is a thoughtfully designed arboretum with many interesting areas to explore: herbal garden, Kids garden, rose garden, medicinal garden, for example. The paths are designed to entice you forward. There is a wonderful shell for performances that kids love to clown on, as well.

As we have toured around Utah and Idaho the last 10 days we stopped at the botanical gardens. Beautiful area on the mountainside but the hills make it difficult for people that are disabled. Enjoyed all the plant exhibits and would certianly recommend to anyone

A beautiful garden with a variety of specimens creatively displayed and with beautiful mountains in the background. We went early and took several reads to enjoy the quiet reflective viewing areas. The gift shop is wonderful as well -enjoy!

A wonderful experience from start to finish! The endless varieties of flowers and the fragrances floating up from the amazing colors were heavenly!
However, what I didn't expect was the the perfect botonical layout to see all of those flowers in terraces overlooking the city of Salt Lake! The snowcapped mountains in the background was the icing on the cake.
This was a really great stop!

We recently traveled from our home in southeastern PA to spend some time in central Utah. Being garden lovers, we visited here as our very first outing. Our visit began with a complimentary tram tour lasting about 20 minutes. Our driver Gail stopped many times along the way to point out interesting features. We enjoyed this overview of the grounds, which saved us some walking.
This is a mid-sized garden but very well planted and designed, with a beautiful setting at the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains. We were surprised how lush and green this garden was. Scattered throughout their grounds were many huge pots containing stunning plantings. During our stroll, we encountered several very helpful volunteers, who clearly enjoy their jobs.
We thought this garden was easy to get to and very pleasant to visit. It is located to the east of the U. of Utah campus, adjacent to the University’s natural history museum; we combined these two attractions for a great day-trip. There was plentiful free parking and a nice gift shop (no café, though). We had free admission through our AHS membership. In all, we spent just under two hours here and enjoyed every minute.

Make sure to visit this garden when you are in Salt Lake City! It is an amazing place. There is a lot to see and it is all beautiful and well presented. You can spend hours here! There are lovely spots to relax and be with nature. This is a gem!

I think the best time to go would be late spring/early summer, or mid-fall. The view was amazing, but I wouldn't pay $14 again for this time of the year.

I loved it! If you love flowers, gardens or just walking in nature, this is for you! Nicely laid out and we spent almost 2 hours there and I'm sure we missed things. Unexpectedly awesome

The garden has free parking. You pay the admission fee in the visitors' center which includes a gift shop. You go upstairs and go into the garden on the second level. On the way there, there are several paintings--mostly landscapes--for your viewing pleasure. It is the botanical garden of the University of Utah and is the finest university botanical garden I have visited to date. Unfortunately, I visited during the dead of winter so things were not blossoming and the trees were rather stark; but I can imagine what a beautiful place it would be during the spring. The thing that impressed me the most was the identification plaques on just about every item in the garden. There are trails galore and specialty gardens. The trails are well paved, but there are hilly areas. Some of the areas were shut off during my visit due to the snow and slippery walkways.

We spent a lovely spring morning strolling through the gardens. Plenty of blooms and plants to view in late April. The roses aren't out yet. Lots of people were arrive in the afternoon as we were leaving.

We love this place all seasons of the year. It is different in each season. It is so refreshing to be in a quite space, among the beauty of the foliage, and yet be so close to the city. It is a great place to take a picnic lunch or snack. I love walking down to the pond to see the fish and ducks, and strolling through the Rose Garden along the way. It is such a treasure.

Lovely smaller botanical garden with both formal gardens and nature trails throughout Wasatch Mountains foot hills. Childrens garden, rose garden, medicinal plant garden and more. Lovely gift shop and botanical focused gallery.

The gardens are set up in sections. There is a floral walkway, a fragrance garden, herb garden, medicinal garden, rose garden, and lots more. I was there 2 hours and didn't see 1/3 of the gardens. The tags identifying the plantings are clear and helpful. Paths are paved and wide. There are some steps. Scattered throughout the gardens are old-fashioned porch swings in shady arbors and benches, if you need to rest.

Enjoyable botanical gardens. Several different themed areas. Added bonus - great views of Salt Lake City.

With 21 Acres of spectacular gardens and 5 miles of gorgeous hiking trails, Red Butte is one of the most beautiful places to explore in the valley. We like to visit at different times of the year to appreciate the variety in bloom in each season and just get some exercise. There is a fantastic variety of different gardens--Rose, Fragrance, Medicinal and Herb gardens and kids love the Children's garden. They offer many horticulture, conservation and environmental educational programs in addition to a wonderful summer concert series and many other special events. Great for Weddings! (walking shoes suggested)

The Red Butte Gardens are beautiful and should be on your list of things to see if you are visiting Salt Lake City. It has many different gardens to walk though such as Fragrance, Medicinal, Herb, Rose and even a Childrens garden. What really adds to the beauty is that the garden was designed with so many levels that really allow you to see the full wonder of the gardens. There is also a Water Conservation Garden that I picked up some tips that I can use with my garden.

The shear number of plants in the garden is incredible. It's hard to believe how they could get some many varieties in this setting. It's also an excellent location for a cool walk along the shady paths and down by the stream and pond. A really fun place for a couple to walk, and a good place for the kids with its children's area.

Had a chance to go there on a free day (labor day) as part of a trip to Utah. The gardens were well cared for with lots of color even in summer. Definitely worth a trip to this garden and great if you can catch it on a free day.

After hiking the trail next to the garden, we decided to visit the flowers and displays at the garden. It cost $14 for adults and $7 for students (with ID). It took us about 70 minutes to go through the garden. It’s very nicely laid out and many spots for just relaxing and enjoying the beauty. I especially liked the different sections: medicinal and herb garden, children’s area, etc...We has a treat as the tulips were in full bloom. I think it is even more beautiful in the summer when everything has bloomed.

Love this place and looking at the plants and walk around enjoying the fresh air. There are plenty of seats all over the gardens to sit and rest. Also hikes you can go on Nice restaurant as well. Also enjoy the plant shows when they have them. Although we have never been to any, they do have concerts and informative (teaching lessons). We live north of SLC but it is well worth the drive and plan to renew our season tickets.

Visited the garden on one of the hottest days of the summer, wished the weather permitted more hiking. The gardens are beautiful and the views of the city and surrounding mountains are spectacular. Hope I can get back in cooler weather.

Zoned gardens on a hillside ranging from arid cacti, to lush tropical, to kids fun themed hidden wonders, etc. The view of Salt Lake City was clear and beautiful. Great morning adventure. I hope to return to the concert venue located there for an evening view. A very pleasant find in Salt Lake City.

First let me say that visiting gardens is my wife's passion. This is a beautiful garden on a hillside. They have used the contours to make a series of excellent gardens, including a fairly new water efficient garden. We spent a couple of hours there. The views over the valley are also pleasant. The visitor center has a shop and some art displays, but lacks a refreshment facility. It was warm and there were plenty of water fountains spread around the garden.

Hosted corporate event: majestic views, glorious botanicals, professional staff: Robin and Denise were great. Guitarist Soren Green was amazing. Culinary Crafts was delicious and very attentive. Could not ask for anything more. It was perfect.

Despite being 30 degrees outside, had a wonderful walkabout! Yes, there was snow covering a lot but the waterfall area was mostly thawed, but 2 ducks and 2 geese were hanging out! The gift shop is still one of the best around!

I’ve been to botanical gardens before but none as beautiful as this. The mountain setting is stunning. I really love the gardens layout, diversity and also tips that were given in each setting on how to manage ones at home. It’s a beautiful venue for special events as well!

Beautiful family day out! The waterfall and small lake area were our favorites and the herb garden too. Great for little kids and if you need to use a stroller. Lots of places to sit and relax and soak up the beauty.

We joined the Red Butte Garden membership program when we moved here, initially for the concert perks. However, now we continue to renew our membership for our frequent lunch dates, fun date night events and amazing shows! The gardens are a beautiful place to escape to!

This is a great place to take a picnic. This is a place to walk and meditate. This is a great place to run your kiddles ragged. This is a great place to take photos. Red Butte Gardens is just a great place!

The place was nice, but kind of expensive not what was on Webb site. The only bloming that was available was the trees very few flowers where either not blooming or had bloomed and died. The crowds where very sparse.if going go later into the summer

A recent visit confirms that this Botanic garden continues to develop into one fo the finest in the United States. Its unique posture along the line of the Wasatch Fault gives it a geological advantage, and a lovely view of the Salt Lake Valley. Some of the garden areas are maturing very nicely, whilst some are newly developed, higher up on the slope, affording a supreme viewpoint. The garden is easy to reach through either the downtown exits, then head east, or off of I-80 then north on Foothill Blvd. There is a nicely appointed gift shop in the visitor's center, a very pleasant children's garden, and beautiful wildflower etchings in the sandstone.

Atop the East Bench of the Wasatch mountains, just above the University of Utah campus is this little jewel. Lots of well-marked nature trails and beautiful vistas, folks of any age or physical ability will enjoy Red Butte Garden.
Known for its summer concert series, Red Butte is also a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. Benches available along the trails for picnics. Well marked nature descriptions of the local plants are a nice touch.

We are locals and this is a gem of a place to visit for a picnic or a hike. We had a picnic for 12 there last night. You need to make sure there isn't a concert or it will close at 5pm. You can hike the trails inside the gardens too in a secure setting as it is fenced.( great for a woman traveling alone). There are picnic tables available for small and large groups and a play area for children. Also a romantic and inexpensive place for Date night.

Quick visit on a rainy cold day. We were leaving the museum and noticed these gardens just up the street. Since it was rainy the facility was open for free. We could not resist.
Inside there are beautiful exhibits of local plants along with long garden trails. We were most fascinated by the medical plants section. There you could view plants that have medical properties and read how they are prepared. I really enjoyed this section even though a lot of medicinal plants look a lot like gnarly weeds. The worst looking plants seem to have the best benefits. We didn't get to see more of the gardens since the weather was turning. We hope to return again.

This botanical garden features a variety of themes. There is the Children's Garden, the Medicinal Garden, the Fragrance Garden, and the Rose Garden. The best of the gardens in this last--although we were there prior to the roses coming into full bloom. Set on a hillside, and surrounded by mountains, the atmosphere is unique to Utah. It was a lovely place for either friendship, romance, or a family outing.

An excellent experience - kind, helpful staff, beautiful gardens with cool Halloween decorations and a great gift shop filled with unique souvenirs!

We have been to visit several times and I am always so impressed with the number and variety of flowers and how well maintained it is. I recommend it!

Very well kept gardens and grounds. Bring a picnic lunch as lots of tables and grassy areas to set up at. Enjoyed the swings around the exhibits to sit and enjoy the flowers. We went during the Lego exhibit and it was fun walking around and finding all of them. The park looks really big but you can get through it relatively quickly (if need be) or take your time and stroll. Would recommend to stop here if you're in the area and enjoy flowers.

The staff were super friendly and helpful when we visited and the gardens themselves are peaceful and well-labeled for an interesting and relaxing visit. The views of the city below are fantastic also!

Peaceful. Beautiful. Informative. Visited in mid-May. Weather was perfect. We only took a quick walk through but there are opportunities to sit and enjoy all over the garden!

We spent a couple of hours waling through these gardens that are situated on the hill behind the University of Utah campus. The gardens have been recently renovated and are very special! There are beautiful views facing west across the U of U campus and the valley below. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, too. Everyone who has an interest in botanical gardens should go here!
A very lovely garden!
My sister and I visited Red Butte Garden at the end of September. Even though it was past the prime for summer flowers there were still quite a few blooms. It is a nice place to walk around and there are little nooks with benches and bench swings to sit down and relax. We took a picnic lunch and ate on a small balcony with some nice tables and chairs. It would be a fun place for kids also. There is a cool children's garden with a lot of neat things including what looked like a little hobbit house with a small picnic table inside.
