Beautiful view! We went highway 101 instead of 5, Well worth it! Plenty of trees plenty of rest stops. There is construction going on.

The redwoods are amazing! What a great little city this is!
We stopped and did our little hikes here and there....beautiful sunshiny day!

If you want the best views and see the beginning of the stacks and amazing coast line exit 6th Ave in Trinidad, right under the freeway the right all along the magnificent coast, beaches, rock formations, photos ops galore

Highway 101 Has changed a lot over the years each time I have drove the highway they've added more and more 4 lanes. So many places to see the great redwoods.

Love the Redwoods , one of my favorite places to be centered and regrounded . The beauty here will leave you speechless and in awe and wonder.

Beautiful drive with splendid views of Pacific Ocean and giant Redwood forests. Really enjoyed it. Xx

This drive in Northern California takes you through many stands of Sequoia sempervirens with narrow winding roads through Richardson Grove and be sure to exit the highway and follow the signs for Avenue of the Giants. This is a road that parallels the Redwood Highway and meanders through another large stand of redwoods.
Small towns, many attractions and magnificent scenery are your reward for driving this stretch of highway.

One of the best drives I have ever taken in any country or any US state. It is amazing to see the ocean burst forth among the giant trees as you round a bend in the road. Having driven from the Mexico border up into WA, this was the best part of the whole drive in terms of view and driving experience for me.
Stop in the state park and take a walk on a fairly flat trail. Breath in. Skip shrink zoom appointment.
There will likely be construction. There will be plenty of traffic including trucks. There are no other roads.

I drove down from Oregon from I-5 down to Weott, CA. The hwy from Grants Pass to the border was typical with 55 mph and a few passing lanes. Once over the border there are several passing lanes with 65 mph. Several sections were very curvey and slow going with turnouts for slower vehicles. It's a beautiful drive over looking the rivers but it gets better closer to the coast. Just west of Hiouchi, CA you begin to see the very large redwoods. The trees are magnificent. Continuing south on hwy 199 past the short cut to Hwy 101 north the tree close-in along the hwy and they are breathe taking. The speed limit picks up to 65 mph once you merge with Hwy 101.
Headed south on hwy 101 past Crescent City you will be amongst the groves of huge redwoods again. The highway has several issues headed south so be careful. Make sure to take the Drury alternate route to Elk Prairie state park to see more huge trees and groves. There were 13 head of Elk on the prairie.
There are mostly 4 lane freeways headed south. South of Eureka make sure to take the Avenue to the Giants.
Take the time to take these alternate routes. They are slower going but worth the view of beautiful, huge trees.

Take your time and enjoy these magestic trees. No matter the Sun or clouds the play of light will entice and deliver.

You have not seen America until you have traveled through the Redwoods. Out of all of the ecosystems in the US, this is my favorite. The trees are amazing, each view is better than the last.

When I say "Too Much to See & Not Enough Time!" I'm not complaining ... Redwood Highway is magnificent and the time goes by too quickly! Go, but take your time. There is no way you can see or do it all, so don't even try. Just do a couple things really, really well and save the rest for another visit. The surrounding towns are a joy to explore, (Ferndale) and after seeing the majestic Redwood trees there is the rivers and ocean to enjoy. Our weather was perfect and with Covid there really wasn't anyone around. It felt like we were in an apocalyptic Sci-Fi movie ... which was weirdly awesome! - I love people but I don't like crowds so this was a perfect trip only it was too short.

This is always a wonderful drive. lots to see and do. Small shops and interesting sites to stop and see. worth the time and effort. It always amazes me the beauty of this area.

Loved this part of California. It's so different from my previous experiences further south. The big trees are a real treat.

This is a beautiful, historic highway. There are wonderful Federal, State, local, and private parks and tourist attractions along this highway.

I recommend visiting a 'visitor's center' for the Redwood National Park to get an overview of the collection of land parcels that make up the Redwood National and State Parks so that you can appreciate what's left of the giant redwoods. Even along US Highway 101, there are easy on/off to enjoy glimpse of some great groves. Remember there is only 4% of the original forest left - hence the collection of small parcels, but still incredible.

This road was scary yet beautiful all at the same time. Would not want to drive this at night. Highly recommended for a one time drive. Not sure I would go out of my way to do again. But very breathtaking.

I was almost surprised to see this as a place to review since I have traveled it 100's of times in the last 30 years. From Willits to OR and North to Astoria, you couldnt ask for a more beautiful drive. But, always pay attention. Majestic Redwoods, scenic river vistas, stunning sunsets, crashing waves. The list goes on and makes me realize how fortunate we are to live here.
Very many places are narrow two lane, and winding. Redwoods don't move. Lives are lost every year from drivers going too fast or otherwise not paying attention to the road and weather. Locals are not immune. Use the wide spots or vista points and drive safe. And look out for deer, elk or bear.

this is pretty drive but don't be in hurry lots of construction stops and the curves slow you down a lot

This place is so awe inspiring! A must see! add a little bit of time to this part of your trip because you will want to get out and look around. It is so beautiful and these trees are absolutely HUGE!!

We drove from Northern California to Sonoma Valley on the 101 Red Wood highway.. it was a very special drive absolutely wonderful.. just a great experience.. 10 out of 10..

Always a beautiful scenic drive from Garberville to Crescent City, from redwoods to elk to seashores. Take your time and the bypasses to see more.

Yes it is true that tears came to my eyes as we drove along the Redwood highway. The driving was challenging at times but those massive trees were totally worth it.

Great scenery, and we so enjoyed stopping at all the redwoods areas along the way. Stopped in the little towns and met a lot of friendly people.

everyone raves about the PCH down by Big Sur...this is just as spectacular and a whole lot less crowded!! many pull-offs for viewing...advise to pull over, road very twisty and dangerous to look and drive at same time...they were doing alot of road repair due to heavy winter rains/road damage, but traffic moved what little there was. The coast up here is wild and rugged, saw quite a bit of sea life including humpback whale and sea lions frolicking in the waves

One needs to stop at the various pull outs to see the trees. There are several trails that are short, (under a mile both ways) that allows you to get int o the forest. There are many types of ferns to see too.

Wonderful scenery, lots of options to get off the main road then back on again. There were a few traffic stops as road went to single lane

This place is awesome. Great value in an authentic Polynesian style. They have worked very hard to provide this quality experience in food, service and environment.
Ask Ken to do a magic trick. He's really quite talented.
Fatima works her magic in the kitchen and is also. Very talented!!!
This is a family place where every part of the experience is real, and high quality.

Explored northern California for the first time. This is the farthest we've ever driven in California. Surprisingly good road conditions. If we had more time we would have driven all the way to Oregon border.

All day in the Redwoods. So many places to visit and so many wonderful trees to enjoy. Most stops were easy walks, even for a guy in his 70's.The trees are a marvel. Do not hesitate to take the family snd enjoy.

This is certainly a must see if you haven't already.Be sure to take your time, make frequent stops and don't discount any of the little stores within the route for they are very unique.

This was a very windy and mind blowing Highway! It was so cool to see the trees and the change in scenery!! We couldn’t stop because we were already behind due to an ER visit, but we will definitely be going back to explore!!

If this drive doesn't touch you, might want to engage your therapist. It's absolutely spectacular. Take your time. Get out of your car. Take a few hikes and your head will be positioned vertically the entire time. My only regret is that we didn't have a convertible to enjoy then canopies the entire trip.

I travel this area once a month to come see my son, and I love to stop different spots and take pictures. The redwoods and the ocean are great spots.

The trip up or down the Redwood Highway is one of those special journeys that if you have the opportunity to do you shouldn't miss it.
As part of a trip to the US and Canada we needed to get from Portland to San Francisco and the opportunity to do the Oregon Coast Highway and the Redwood Highway made for a special road trip.
There is so much scenery to see, history to learn about and life in local communities along the way to soak up.
My only advice would be to allow enough time. We took two days to get from Portland to San Francisco and would really have enjoyed having three or even four days.
You need to stop often to take it all in.

took the redwood to see the sites and it was amazing ,peopl do not know of the beauty in this area,,MUST SEE

Humboldt County rocks. Part of Del Norte County is wonderful. Lush green trees. A sense of serenity.

Be sure to take the off ramps off of 101 and travel thru the majestic redwoods. I option is to stop and take a short or long hike thru these ancient trees

Our son who finished his second masters degree took us on this trip and it is a trip we will always remember. We started in seattle and drove the redwood highway to california and it is a trip that i cannot explain , you just have to do it . We did it in one week from seattle to california hwy 1 back interstate to portland. there was so much to see and do , we crammed it in. So much to do in seattle , the mountains , the forest, the ocean, we live on the east coast and this was a totally new experience . Talk to people along the way , study new cultures , Yes challange yourself to live . There will always be a day to work, but take time for this .Thanks to the neatest little guy in the world , your mom and dad.Oh oct. is a perfect time, but watch out for the fog, It rolls in .

The sights along the road are spectacular. although the number of places to pull over are restricted and the road is very narrow in sections

At least once in your lifetime (but hopefully more often) you should find yoursel in awe of nature. This is one place where that is certain to happen. The winding road plays games with your car, your reflexes and your head while surrounding you are Giants in their natural habitat. Take your time. Get out of your car. Experience something bigger and more profound than you.

The Redwood Highway is beautiful. We stopped at vista points, rest areas, and Visitor Centers. The views are wonderful.

There are few better highways to get you from point A to point B. The trees are amazing and there's even a beach or two.

We got off 101 this time and really enjoyed our drive through the redwoods. Camped over night at Burlington. Enjoyed how the road wound through the trees. We were glad we took the extra time to take this side adventure.

This was my very first visit to California and I can't believe what I'd been missing out on. What a beautiful stretch of countryside and what lovely beaches on one side and beautiful redwood trees on the other. Gorgeous scenery.

Beautiful drive along the coast even with all the misty rain. Lots of great side trips and attractions. We were there in the off season in Spring so some places were closed. Pack a lunch and stop to enjoy the views.

Imagine driving along thru the Redwoods along the river... that is what you have as you take this road.

The Redwood Highway is one of our favorite drives in all of CA. It makes for an excellent roadtrip between San Francisco/ Sonoma + Napa County wine country/ Mendocino Coast/ Eureka + the Lost Coast...up to Eugene + Portland in OR. The redwood trees are STUNNNING and scenery is gorgeous. A must for your CA road trip!

It would have been nice if there were more stop offs with signs explaining the tress and areas. We took the driving trip into the forest…the road was narrow and two way traffic so caution is advised.

The Redwoods have always been a "Bucket List" item for me, as well as our daughter, Jerri. We traveled there in early October and were not disappointed! We flew into Sacramento and made the drive to Eureka to be able to enjoy every aspect of the journey. It was a trip of a Life Time :-)

No better way to see the dense Redwood forest up close and personal - don't just drive through - stop and walk among these ancient giants.

Amazing tram gondola ride we will go on next time. We spent time in the Indian museum and checking out Big Foot. It’s a blast. Lots of photo opportunities too. Take the kids and hubby. You will all enjoy it. Pickup souvenirs.
If you love big foot you gotta stop!!

First off the redwood trees are amazing! The Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway is a great experience allowing you to drive through pristine forest. We added in a quick hike on the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail and you get a great taste of what it once looked like. However, the parks left me feeling like Donald Trump designed them. As he said on the campaign trail… the environment, we can leave a little bit of it. Unfortunately, preservation was a long time coming and the results are a few disjointed areas connected by a century and a half of logging that don’t really feel like a park reserve as much as few archaeological remains of Roman times the middle of modern Rome.

The views are great but with all the road work it's even longer than usual, which is pretty long but a nice change from a freeway drive

This highway is beautiful with the tall trees and winding curvy roads. If you get motion sick I recommend some meds before you begin.

As you drive the Redwood Highway, you become entranced by its many moods. The milky gray/blues of the sky and sea, soaring flocks of sea birds, the towering shadows of the trees, the unfolding turns and vistas of the road, draw you into the primal broth of this enchanting place. One of the great drives of California. Only note of caution, during our recent drive we contended with a number of road construction and repair projects that required significant wait times. Do go, but be patient. Allow extra time. Contemplate the forrest beauty while you wait.

There aren't many ways to get from the I-5 corridor in southern Oregon to the coast (especially in winter), and the best way takes you through the northwest corner of California on US 199. It's only about a 40 mile stretch from the Oregon border to the coast, but most of it is along the dramatic Smith River or in the redwood forests. A lot of the road is windy and only one lane each way, so take a deep breath and know that you are not going to go 40 miles in 40 minutes. You will get behind a slow truck or camper at some point (although there are a lot of turnouts and most slower traffic is good about pulling off). There are also a lot of places to you to pull off and take in the view (which is hard for the driver to do while driving) and experience the redwood forest. The highway goes through Jedediah Smith State Park, which offers a range of easy-to-hard and short-to-long trails. At a minimum, stop at the Simpson-Reed trail just off 199 on Walker Road near the little town of Hiouchi; it's a short, easy, accessbile trail that gives you a feel for the majesty of the redwoods.

These magnificent treasures surround both sides of the road. There could be lots of traffic during tourist season so plan accordingly but don't miss this source of national pride if you are in the area. Lots of places to pull off and trails to hike. You can see it in a day but could also stay a week. Humboldt Bay provides a beautiful backdrop for the nature's splendor here.

This was a very lovely part of our drive along the California coast. The majestic redwoods were worth seeing.

Drive carefully and slowly to savor this beautiful road. Highway travels through many redwood forests where you can stop to enjoy the tranquility.

Though i pretty much travel up and down 101 about once a month, this last time was the beginning of a cross-country trip which started in April. The Redwood Highway is one of the most beautiful stretches of road anywhere in the US, with plenty parks and vista points to stop at.
This rainy winter brought mudslides and opened up potholes, however, and 101 was closed twice around Leggett. Now it's open again, and hopefully will be gussied up for summer tourists. Ah, breathe, look, and enjoy! But always keep alert, and obey the speed limits, as there are many tight curves and, often, animals on the road.

From Ukiah, CA to Crescent City near the Oregon border, this stretch of road offers a variety of nature’s landscapes. Rolling hills as you go north, to some fairly winding areas hugging the mountainside and passing through small towns along the way. There are few rest stops (3 for sure) but this trip, the stop before Trinidad was closed. You’ll go through a narrow road, with redwoods for a mile or so (Richardson Grove) and watch for an exit to Avenue of the Giants. This is another grove of redwoods and if you exit on this road, you are just taking a detour, as it leads you right back to Hwy 101.
Ocean views, miles & miles of trees with very good roads the entire way.

The redwood highway has beautiful views on a clear day. You can see the Pacific Ocean and giant redwoods in the same outing. On foggy or rainy days it’s a white knuckle drive. We experienced both. Make sure you go to the drive through tree in Leggett and stop in Trinidad for great ocean views.

Take the time to enjoy this great drive . I've always wanted to see the redwoods from seeing them in National Geographic as a child .
Take your time to enjoy and even stop at some of the more corny 1950's style attractions .
The trees are magnificent and you only get a true feeling of their scale by standing next to them .

The tavel time from the bay area up through Humboldt is long. The Redwood Highway is absolutley beautiful. The redwood trees are breathtaking.

The redwood highway was a very awe inspiring drive. Make sure the Avenue of the Redwoods is part of your drive. Stop and get the brochure at the entrance to the drive and follow and stop at the suggested highlighted areas. There's something mystical about these giant redwoods.

This is an absolute must on the to do List, If you've never seen the Redwoods in California then you don't know what you've been missing, They will blow you away with their size and majestic beauty. One of the best scenic drives in the USA by far.

There are multitude of travelers along the US 101 north and it is a definite destination. I like all the motorcycles who tour the area. Be sure to check out the Redwood National Park and many trails.

Most people think Northern California is the San Francisco Bay Area, not realizing that the most beautiful part of the State is another 5 Hour Drive North to the Redwoods and the most scenic Coastal area. That's ok though because that's what keeps the crowds and traffic away. It isn't unusual for you to be the only people on a stretch of coast!!!

There are 8 of us traveling from Texas ages 51, 49, 40, 39, 21, 18, 18 & 16.
This was a beautiful trip, the only reason I gave a 4 was because there aren't enough signs for all the points of interest. For example, the Big Tree was hard to find. Other than that, this was amazing!! Beautiful views & sights. I especially LOVE there is no coverage, because the kids had no choice but to take in the view!!

Make sure to include the avenue of the giants. Plan some time to stop at the small pullouts al9ng the way

Rough road, but with a breathtaking view of pines and creeks. There were some points under road work but road condition was very good

I followed this road from San Fran on my trek north. It varied from multi-lane motorway, to single lane blacktop. There were some spectacular points along the way, The Avenue of the Giants being one. An excellent drive, some brilliant scenery.

Totally enjoyed the Redwood Drive. It is so awesome driving through seeing the large trees!! It is just amazing. After following the coast for many miles it was nice to get a different view of the tall trees and lush forest!!!

This highway allows you to really see and appreciate the variety of trees as well as the grandeur of the redwoods! Many loops and side treks to take to make your visit as long or short as you wish!!

We took the "Avenue of the Giants" - I am not sure if this is also called the Redwood Highway. All I can say is - stay on the main highway. We ventured off the main road onto some secondary "scenic roads" - big mistake. Large pot holes, no shoulders, washed out road with the tar missing. Not enjoyable. Just saying.

The Redwood Highway extends from Willits to the Oregon border on Hwy 101. There are the typical tourists (pay) traps, but you can enjoy many sites with no cost other than your time and overwhelming your senses. Redwood forests abound along the way. Plenty of campgrounds or hotels along the way. (Make reservations in tourist months.) Cell phone photos okay, but bring a good camera to film tall trees, wide beaches, ocean views, towering cliffs, and so much more! Take your time and don't pass up the opportunity to be amazed by views just a few minutes off Hwy 101.

We spent our vacation traveling throughout the area. There are so many amazing views from this stretch of road! Be sure to check it out.

The Redwood Highway is the stretch of US 101 from just north of Willits, California, to Jedediah Smith State Park (actually on Highway 199, just off of Hwy 101) north of Crescent City, California. It's a 250 mile stretch that has been inspiring visitors for almost a hundred years, a wild prehistoric landscape of living giants that you can't experience anywhere else in the world. Except for a few small--some really small--towns, there are long stretches of few or no services, so be prepared. Having said that, there are a few really quirky and fun places to stop along the way. If you have the time, don't pass them by! This isolated region is a gem of the nation, so if you have a chance to experience it, definitely take full advantage. It's beautiful and driveable all year round.

We drove Hwy 101 from The Oregon coast all the way to Avenue Of The Giants. 101 is considered Redwood Highway from Crescent City to Eureka.
It's a fabulous scenic drive! We did get caught by construction South of Crescent City, but at least it was in a beautiful area.
Take your time & enjoy!

Allow extra time to pull over 100 times and take it all in as you travel here. Enjoy the views, make sure you do Avenue of the Giants as well.

Driving up or down the California coast is always a fun ride. We had perfect weather. The Pacific is on one side and the redwoods are on the other.
What could be better? There are things to do all along the road.

This is a magnificent drive through a combination of red wood forests and ocean front with numerous river crossings over spectacular gorges. The road is a mixture of freeway standard construction and winding rural road. In some places it has been severely damaged by rain and mud/rock slides and there are a number of road construction sites along the way. Expect some delays of up to 15 minutes as sometimes traffic can only go one way.

We drove down from Oregon on 199 from Grants Pass to Crescent City. That is a very pretty and scenic drive along the Smith River. We also drove the Avenue of the Giants south of Eureka. We didn't have time to do it a few years ago, but it's well worth it to get off 101 and spend some time among some awesome trees. We visited Sequoia National Park decades ago, and this was just as impressive.

Hwy 101 from Eureka to Trinidad is beautiful. We started out driving around Humbolt Bay, which is very interesting with wetlands and pastures with dairy cattle. We drove thru Arcata and up past McKinleyville and as we came over a rise in the road the unexpected view of the long beach, turquoise water, white waves and the big rock of Trinidad comes into view and you just don't know where to look next. I was afraid I'd miss something. We exited on Crannell Rd and found lots of parking and walked along Clam Beach. Then we drove into the little town of Trinidad, and it's easy to find the beach. Go straight to the end of the road and it curves to the left, go to the end of the road and turn right. Follow it down to the beach. It's a perfect half shell walking beach. In the same location is a harbor with a restaurant, and boat launch. There is something special about Trinidad.

If the Redoods on 101 and the Avenue of the Giants don't impress you - you are asleep. Seek out Redwood Forests and revel in the breathtaking beauty.

Incredible trees, plants, atmosphere... I will never forget how beautiful and lush everything is! What an astounding feeling to feel so small compared to the surroundings! A Wonder of the world! Must see!

I came to this part of the world to see these wonderful trees. We spent an entire day touring this road except for side trips suggested by a ranger. We went on one dirt road that allowed us to get up close to the trees without having to get out of your car. This is a really beautiful place to visit.

Longish drive from Eureka to nearly Napa.
The road is quite wide in places, sometimes 3 lanes each way. At others it narrows to being barely 1 lane, with huge tree trunks a foot from the carriageway.
The scenery is spectacular in places, at others it gets a but monotonous, nothing but tall trees as far as you can see in any direction.
You have also to admire the engineering and cost involved in building this hundreds of mile long road, bridging rivers and ravines etc.

Drove the highway from San Francisco to Klamath and were surprised at the variety of scenery along the way. Redwood forests were great as were the rest of the forests, Hill, mountains and rivers along the route.

Beautiful big, tall redwood trees, very nice drive on highway 101 along the coastline. Quite a few vista points to stop and enjoy the scenery.

One of the best museums of Native American artifacts I have ever seen. Plus the Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox are awesome

The roads take the visitor through glorious scenery, hairpin turns, and magnificent vistas in every direction.

We drove to Oregon and went through the redwood area. You can see them along the road and there are many stops to walk thru and really capture the immense size and grandeur. We saw the general sherman and other super large trees. It is so beautiful and a must do in your lifetime. Very accessible and easy trails.

Signals are set up to control traffic which works really well, road is just having to be reinforced along mountainside as its falling away. Drove street rod through and can't imagine any trailers or trucks, but there are...and the scariest are those driving it daily. Driving fast and wreckless...thought we were done in by a log trucks pup trailer as he came north bound and the pup swung around past he truck at us.

Decided to drive 101 and catch the sites. Don't do it hauling a vehicle on a trailer. We did and it was stressful. To bad, it looked beautiful. Been there done that trip.

Gorgeous highway through the Redwoods.
We are on the Redwood Highway almost daily.
Always clean and never heavy traffic. The landslides are real and can alter your trip by several hours if there are road closures. Thanks to Governor "Moon Beam" Brown he has consistently taken funds earmarked for these repairs and used them elsewhere, like the go no where Bullet Train! Now this beautiful Highway has two very serious slide areas, one south of Crescent City and the other South of Garberville. Always call if traveling for information on these road closures and detours.

It was a great drive! The roads are quality to drive on and a lot of fun. Great views and beautiful. The kids didn't care so much after a while but we the parents enjoyed all of it. Especially my husband who enjoyed the winding roads!

Ave of the Giants always awesome. Trees of mystery greatly improved over the years. Enjoyed the sky ride. wonderful view at the top. Walking the paths strenuous for us over 80.

We had a fine time adventuring on a 4-day round trip by car on Highway 101 from Santa Rosa to Eureka. The road itself is excellent, four lanes, frequently divided, and there are plenty of amenities along the way. That is a big change from the last time I drove this road 50 years ago. But the scenery is still amazing and I recommend stopping at every view point. Do not miss the detour through the Avenue of the Giants. Their auto tour pamphlet lists suitable forest walks and other points of interest, including kitschy old-fashioned souvenir shops. Eureka has history, good restaurants, murals, the Clark museum, Carson mansion, beaches, and many interesting small towns nearby. It's obvious the Sixties counter-culture had a big influence along the Redwood Highway. Tie-dye and bead shops abound plus we tuned into a couple fun radio stations along the way playing Grateful Dead and other music of our hippie youth.

We drove down the roads to the redwood trees and was not dissapointed they were spectacular would recommend this place to anyone.

These trees are amazing..well worth diverting off the 101 ,lots of stopping places and paths to follow into the woods.
Got some great photos. Watched a couple of cars going through the large tree which was interesting...we didn’t do it but was fun to watch others !

We experienced the glory of the majestic and imposing Redwoods between north CAL and south OR.
Impressive experience and one that the camera and eye can almost not take in....ITS A REAL MENTAL PUZZLE.
look out for the Brown Signs for the select hot spots to see the bigger feature trees and small trail loops.
Quite marvellous experience.

The day we drove through the Redwoods, the sky was overcast and gray, giving the area a mysterious air. In some areas it was quite dark because the trees are so dense and tall. Take your time as parts of the road are quite narrow and curvy, and the trees are literally right next to the roads.

This road has hundreds of Redwoods- both sides of the road-- I snapped lots of pictures- traffic was not bad-- awesome to see the giant trees

Beautiful area, but the cities are infested with druggies. We visited Arcata, Eureka and several of the parks off the 101. Once you get out of the cities the druggies diminish.

These trees are magnificent. When you realize that you can stand inside one of them, you really start to understand just how old they are, and it makes you feel insignificant. They are grand.

Highway 101 is a beautiful drive both Red Woods and Ocean views We saw a beautiful lighthouse along this Route. We also found a nice place for a picnic by the water some covered tables others were just out in open but the view there was awsome and this place had restrooms too which are few and far between. fuel up too not too many gas stations in this area.

Stunning, a must-see in your lifetime. Twisty roads, true, but worth it. The Redwoods are right at the roadside.

We drove the " Avenue of Giants" and enjoyed it so much. It was not crowded because of the time of year that we were there which was nice. The Redwood Giants were awesome!!

Lots of trees to choose from! Green and redwoody. They're pretty much all over the place. You can't see the forest for the trees.

The drive is amazing. In early April it was not at all crowded so I could move at my own pace. It seems like an old wood forest and is quiet and peaceful. One of the best drives in the US.

These have to be some of the most beautiful scenic drives in California. Ocean views, redwood trees, meadows and pastures. The roads are glassy smooth (very well maintained). Highly recommended!

I live in Sonoma County, CA, and we have our share of redwoods. We are known as "The Redwood Empire." HOWEVER, that was from many years ago. The vast majority are gone. SOOO, Redwood Highway, starting with The Avenue of the Giants, all the way to the Oregon border is closer to what our forests used to look like. Taking a walk in an Old Growth forest is nothing short of incredible! This is NOT a highway to set speed records. You could spend months here, and still not see it all. Even if you don't take a walk, the views are amazing. But PLEASE, DO take a few walks; many trails are only a short walk. Today, without even trying, I saw elk and a bald eagle. And to get the most, stop at several of the visitor's centers to really understand why it is so important to save these spectacular trees..

This drive is for anyone that's impressed with what Nature can provide. Incredible ancient giants that dwarf us under their mantle. I would make this drive any time I'm in this area.

Take the time to drive down the Avenue of the Giants. A nice detour from 101 through some truly impressive redwood forests. Having grown up in/around Yosemite I've always loved the redwood groves there, so I was really impressed by the sheer number of redwood trees along this drive. Well worth the detour!

This part of the Highway 101 is an absolutly must see. The highway is curvy and like in fairy tail. On both sides of the street there are huge redwoods. Actually the speed limit should be 25mph to get the chance to enjoy it.

A must drive for amazing scenery, spectacular vistas and a taste of the rugged Northern California coast. Highly recommend this drive. It never disappoints!

Drove this beautiful drive. Highly recommend the Avenue of the Giants drive. Amazing views and breathtaking trees!

It never gets old: the redwood forest, the oceanfront, the small towns along the route. This drive is still one of the most scenic in the west. Several sections still being repaired from mudslides, so caution is recommended.

And always impressed, amazed, thrilled, overawed. My favorite drive. We have stopped at many turnouts and for many side trips on this road over almost 50 years. This last trip we took our never out of Alaska before teen grandsons. They too were overawed and marked it as a great moment in life visit.
Be careful of the twisty road, drive slow and be very careful pulling over into the skinny pull offs scattered along the roadway.

Definitely worth coming off Route 101 for the Redwood Highway. Lots of redwoods both sides. Definitely stop at Prairie Creek Visitors Centre and walk the trails there to get up close to these living giants.

Driving North from Garberville, make sure you stop and walk the pathways through the Redwoods in FOUNDERS GROVE. Take the Madaket boat ride on Humboldt Bay. Absolutely do not miss Patrick's Point State Park North of Trinidad. Keep driving toward Crescent City and if you are lucky you will see herds of Roosevelt elk. There are many view points and wonderful stops along the way.

The Redwood forests, ocean views and the driving and hiking trails are great. We enjoyed the ride and saw lots of elk along the way. Lots of state and federal parks and venues along the way.

This is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, well worth the drive and any "side trips" or walks you can manage.

Just the type of drive we were hoping! Gorgeous views of the redwoods and the overviews of the cliffs and ocean.

People tall about big sur. This drive is better. The views of the ocean, redwoods, mountains etc are all wonderful. The road is if good shape in most places, though there are some rough spots. Take time to stop along the way at any of the many turnoffs and viewing spots.

If you ever want to see the best of everything, this is the drive. Redwoods, mountains, the Pacific, quint towns, views, oh my, everything. You cruise from 4 lane divided road to two lane to curvy mountain hugger to cliff side. It is my favorite drive now and I would do it again in a second!

I was lucky enough to be a passenger so got to see the magnificent Redwoods and the ocean vistas. A quick side trip conjoured up some Wild Elk too.

A beautiful road that travels through beautiful country. Not much of a better way to get to Northern California than on Highway 101

Beautiful views along the Redwood Coast with bays, trees and vistas galore. Stop at beaches and do the scenic side road to see huge Redwoods.

We drove through on a Beautiful , clear, Sunny and cool 41°. Breathtaking and Peaceful. Must Do while heading on Hwy 101 !

To see all the giant redwoods as you drive through is breathtaking.. stopping here & there to hike a trail & stretch the legs.. you feel soooo small!!!

Most days are sunny and in the 60's on average. The views are forever and the crowds are essentially gone. Not to mention if you have to stay somewhere rooms are available and prices have gone done. Fall really is the best time to visit for a tourist.

We were traveling southward from Oregon and took 101. This road has lots of interesting spots along the way. I figured that during the summer, traffic would be a bear, but travel went smoothly on excellent roads.

The travel on 101 / 1 was very good, beautiful views and interesting small towns along the way. Eureka was unique with interesting giant murals throughout the downtown. Most were very well done and of great interest. Town also has large marina and commercial fishing fleet.

But, not the coffee cup. This is because public lavatories are few and far between. If you are on a specific timetable, skip this travel experience altogether because this is not a place to rush through. For those who have the time, enjoy the view. It continuously changes throughout the day.

I've driven this highway many a time, and never get tired of it. On my most recent visit to Humboldt County, I was again amazed at the beauty of the area. This is one of the most beautiful drives you can get in this country. I hope to visit again soon!

Take the Avenue Of The Giants that runs along 101 for about 25 miles. It is a nice intro to the Redwoods. Drive slow so you don’t miss the markers

This highway is a must if you are in the area. The Redwood State park is an absolute must. Stopped in Crescent City tourism advice and a lovely lady advised us on the routes to take and what to do regarding trails and views. The forests are truly spectacular, the 101 is a good road to follow. What a wonderful part of Oregon and North California.

My brother and I took a small vacation in northern Humboldt county and had the opportunity to take this incredibly scenic drive. I would recommend this drive to anybody. Roll your windows down, put the sun roof back and take your time enjoying the spectacular red woods. There are plenty of hikes you can take. Take your camera and a pick nick lunch.

My husband and I entered highway 101 and drove up to Crescent City. This is a beautiful drive with tall trees and an ocean. It is very windy and curvy. It gets foggy and I imagine it's scary to drive on in the dark.

Unparalled beauty. If you drive through here, leave time to stop. There are a multitude of redwood forest hikes that range from one mile loops and up, for a quick stop to a day hike.

Due to bad weather, snow on I 5, we were forced over onto 101 to head back down South .
WOW !!! stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and also stunning views of woodlands especially the Redwoods, incredible and beautiful well worth the detour.

Did you ever see what the ocean looks like over evergreen trees as you drive down the highway? Don't do that when driving. Very dangerous.
However if you get the chance to stop, stop. Don't rush the scenic portion of the drive.
Rent a 4 wheel something.
You can drive down to a lake if you follow the dirt road far enough down. small cars or a jeep only. No campers or trucks. The further down you go the more narrow the road gets. The giant redwoods are awesome and look ancient. Take pictures in the trunk of a tree that's 2000 years old.
I had a 4 wheeled truck. It was fun to feel my truck eat the road.
If you get to the bottom of the road you will find a pristine lake.

We loved the beauty of this road...but it had seen much damage from heavy rains...we were stopped for huge landslide and one lane pretty much the whole way thru...roadwork was the mainstay...I have done before many times and never encountered this at such a dismal level...But am still in awe of the redwoods and their magnificent presence...

We did a walk through the giant trees 1.3 miles. The trees are biond believe in size. The height is unbelievable. The silence in the forest is relaxing. The best forest i visited in years. We were very lucky with the weather.

The drive through the Redwood highway is stunning. Lots of places to pull over and take pictures as well. We also drove the 'stage coach route' but found it dusty and thus not near as scenic as the main highway. Do stop at a ranger station as they have lots of good insight about where to go depending on how much hiking you want to do.

Stretches vary between awe-inspiring and more typical forest drives. Fairly frequent passing-lane stretches to help with slower-moving recreational vehicles. This June the road work was annoying though. I understand the need for it (!) after the winter and spring California had. Just be prepared for frequent stops or slow driving on one lanes in road work patches.

The drive down the redwood highway is gorgeous
You need to take your time to look at all of the scenery

We drove this highway up the coast and really enjoyed the ride. Can see some redwoods but really need to get into the parks to really see how amazing they are.

It was a beautiful drive the the redwood forest groves. This section of highway isn't made for speed, but the trees were great!

I love to drive this highway in & out of the big trees - very pretty country but there was some construction and a long delay

Great to cruise this rolling, swerving, ocean-hugging old road. Points of interest are plethora, not to mention breathtaking ocean views. Being radar-monitored and watched everywhere is a mood killer though it's near impossible to speed from Eureka to the Oregon border.

If you taking the drive there are many different routes to be taken and to see the sheer size of these beautiful trees.

There are several scenic drives throughout the Redwood State Park area. It is very cool to see and highly recommended if you have the extra time.

Stately redwoods line several local highways, US 101, SR-199, SR-36, and many byways including Avenue of the Giants, the old highway, which wends its way past Founders Grove. The tallest known trees in the world are found here in pleasantly cool majestic groves. There are many picnic areas, family camp-grounds, interpretive signs. Birds to look for here are Black-headed Grosbeaks, Western Tanagers, Oregon Juncos, Northern Pygmy Owls, Swainson's Thrushes, Varied Thrushes, Steller Jays, Warbling Vireos, and Common Ravens.

We finally took the time to drive the Avenue of the Giants and even stay in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Even if you are driving through there are places you can park and walk though the redwoods or go aways up a trail. And in fall it's easy to see and avoid poison oak and it turns red, adding some fall color.

This was a dream come true road trip. We drove with my husband from Los Angeles to Ferndale CA. In one day you see desert landscape gradually become to the most magnificent forests. Not only forests, you see The biggest trees on the planet. “Avenue of the Giants “ must see.
Growing up we watched a lots of westerners and after moving to US we were longing for that America. And by visiting Ferndale we’ve been able to travel in time and finally see that Americana. The best part were the people of the city. Must see Poppa Joe’s. Must eat there too.
We stayed in “ The Show House” B&B. Another check mark.We felt like in our grandma’s house in every best possible way.
We’ve been able to do more “must sees”.
City of Eureka, Sequoia ZOO, Sequoia park, Carson mansion, Humboldt bay, Madaket harbour cruise, Trinidad.
The best vacation ever.
A bucket list trip.

We loved driving up the Redwood Highway today. There was very little traffic. There is plenty to see. Lots of places to stop and walk, rest and pee. Not that many coffee shops north of Eureka.

This is one of the most spectacular drives on earth. The combination of trees and ocean views cannot be beat

We thoroughly enjoyed our drive down this highway. Breathtaking scenery! It's hard to comprehend that these trees are over 2,000 years old! Grand, magnificent, gorgeous!

Lovely drive, we drove via redwood highway while travelling from San Fran to Seattle and the scenery was amazing.

I loved the Redwood Highway on a quick trip, it’s well paved and easy driving. I came back to revisit in September. The views of the ocean, rivers, and of course redwood forest is amazing. Be sure to take the Avenue of Giants for about thirty miles running parallel from Pepperwood to Graberville.

Traveled from Bodega Bay Cresent city and did stops to see redwoods. The Avenue of the Giants is a must do , and you have to go the out and back of the Roosevelt woods. Stout Grove in the national PARK was amazing. gotta stop on Yurok indian reservation for the cheapest gas. Capt Pauls smoked Samlmon is great stop kfor lexcellent snak

It’s hard not to be distracted from the beautiful scenery all around you driving this highway. We were able to take it all in during this vacation and partial road trip. If you haven’t done it yet you really should. The landscape scenery is bar none. Absolutely spectacular!! A must!

A breathtaking drive through Redwood country. Absolutely worth the time and effort to make it to this part of the state of California.

This is such a beautiful drive the road is easy to travel and the views are spectacular. Avoid Eureka and keep going north. The town of Eureka is disgusting and scary. Glad we did not make reservations ahead of time.

Picturesque drive through forests of Redwoods along craggy coastlines and past must do tourist traps. We take this route every chance we get and have loved doing so for many years. In my opinion it is one of the best scenic routes in the United States.

Always wanted to drive the Oregon coast 101 so we did all the way to San Diego from Tillamook Oregon. The views are stunning to say the least. The Redwoods are really the stars of the show . My neck is still sore from looking up at those awesome trees. Simply a fantastic time to be sure.

Fitst time of actually seeing redwoods blew us away and thank goodness we were NOT driving, our friend was as we were looking in all directions at these majestic monsters.

Just get out and walk a few minutes under the redwoods. There are many pull-outs and trails. It will change your life.

This is a great scenic drive seeing nature at its best. Very relaxing trip and awesome scenery. Worth the time

Beautiful drive with a lot of charming towns along the coast. The PCH is a great way to see the ocean and redwood forest. Some of the best views of the coastline that I've seen in CA and OR. A must see if you have the time. We were four adults (2 parents, 19 & 20 yr old sons) and enjoyed the roadtrip, stopping at all of the tourist traps along the way. A lot of fun if you have the time.

You'll see spectacular ocean views, pass through redwood canopies, and likely see egrets, hawks, and even elk herds. Stop in old town Eureka for a quaint downtown experience. The cay with its boardwalk and marina are just three blocks away from the highway.

This was my Nth time through this area, and always want more. Check local events schedule ahead, for some of the scenery detours in the area are closed to cars at certain days for various events. You don't really want to drive all the way there and see "bicycle and food traffic only".

The trip driving the Redwood Highway was wonderful. The scenery was beautiful and the road was pretty easy. Make sure to stop at the Visitors Centers - great info

The giant redwoods are a wonder to see and experience. The quiet is calming. The ocean is often seen from the high cliffs with a bracing cold wind in your face. These are two forces of nature, both awe inspiring and beautiful

I grew up in NorCal coastal region. I didn't appreciate the diverse beauty of the highway until I saw the rest of the country. It may take a little longer to travel north or south but oh so much more scenic. Relaxing drive!!

The Avenue of the Redwoods was awesome. The narrow winding road allowed one to appreciate the grandeur of the area. There are many places to stop and "forest bathe!" Drive slowly and appreciate the wildflowers, ferns, moss that flourish on the redwood forests. The Bull Loop to check out the Rockefeller forest and founder's tree...clusters of well preserved groves of these giant redwoods.

Always a beautiful view no matter which direction you're going. I'm not from here so it's exciting to see something to totally different from the area I'm from in the Midwest.

We traveled from Portland, OR to the coast and then down the coast highway into CA. The Redwood Highway is beautiful and breathtaking. it is amazing to think that some of those trees are 2,000+ years old! It was a great trip even though at times the going is pretty slow. Take a deep breath and enjoy the beauty. This particular day ended with a stay in Eureka, CA and some great pizza.

But it can be slow going, especially if the constant rain has created landslides and road closures. Check with CHP or CalTrans for road closures. Take it all the way up to Astoria, OR. You won't be sorry!

I've been traveling the Redwood Highway all my life, 60 years, before it had that name.
In my opinion everyone should travel it at least once, all the way up, if possible.
The sweeping, literally awesome vistas, living history and fascinating side trips are once in a lifetime experiences. Some of the last centuries old redwoods, the wild Pacific ocean, the unexpected glimpses of wildlife. The little towns- each with it's own personality, from Eureka- the largest, to Arcata- college town, to Ferndale- featured in many movies, to upscale enclave Trinidad... so many, each unique, are like little lights on the string of the Redwood Highway.
The trip can be long or short, cheap or expensive from camping to exclusive lodging.
There is art- some in boutiques some in roadside venues; unique food, again from fancy chef prepared cuisine to tiny, no inside seating, buildings with delicious mom and pop prepared local foods; various entertainments from free to expensive, outside and inside, from walking the beach to Del'Arte class acting. So, so much.
Visit and prepare to be awed, entertained and find the peace and exhilaration of this treasure hunt.

Lots of construction but very pretty and great road. Beautiful views, several places to stop and look.

If you have the time take the costal route and drive the spectacular views through the redwoods and along the coastal beaches. A must for every visitor.

The CA and Oregon highway 101 has best photo ops anywhere. Plan on stopping at all the turnouts. It will take a while but it's worth it!

Gorgeous drive, and we saw elk twice! Recommend the Lady Bird Johnson picnic area/hike. So thankful that earlier generations saved these amazing trees!

I never miss a chance to travel "The Avenue of The Giants" adjacent to 101. The drive is always a beautiful alternative to the freeway. Always 10 degrees cooler, its an opportunity to roll down the windows and turn the air conditioner off and enjoy a relaxing trip under these majestic giants.

Great drive up the west coast. It’s a must do for those who want to have a relaxing drive and to see whales and seals and mighty trees. Love it.

This route from Eureka, CA to Grants Pass, OR is very beautiful until one crosses the CA/OR line going north. Still pretty, but too much strip development. Plan to take a full day or more in the California side and enjoy the forests and seashore.

Well worth the drive. The wonders of nature are breathtaking. The roads are winding so be alert. There are passing zones along the way. If you like beach, mountains and trees make the time.

Nice drive through Redwood forests and along beaches. A mixture of 2 and 4 lanes, great way to see beautiful scenery

As someone from out of the area, the scenic drives were one of my favorite parts of the trip! On the 101 I saw elk, trees, ocean, and more. Really a fabulous time just getting to my desinations. You'll want to take a lot of pictures. :)

Drive slow, the views are worth it. The trees are amazing and the side show road stops are fun, especially curiosity hill.

These trees are just spectacular. I always enjoy driving down the highway and stopping in different places along the way

Took Avenue of the Giants from Eureka to Garberville and it was amazing. So many places to stop and walk through the woods and take beautiful photos.

We drove up the coast of Redwood Hwy, well worth the drive and views especially if you beer off and go up the Avenue of Redwoods. Great campgrounds along the way!

Stop by Paul Bunyan's place! Dog Friendly and even allows dogs in the gift shop! Paul speaks to those who walk up to him which was fun. Fudge shop is quite fun to drool over.

Very scenic drive. Lucked out with the weather and had a beautiful day to drive along the highway. Highly recommended taking the time to drive this route

We drove from Southern California to Ukiah and then for the next 4 days explored the area up to just south of Crescent City where there was major road construction on 101 that didn’t allow easy access. We were there the last week in May 2021.
We stopped countless times in the 4 days to see little towns, little tourist holes like the drive through tree, giant redwoods, hikes through the redwoods trails and even saw many elk, often just off the road.
Two hi lights were getting off highway 101 just north of Garberville at the Ave of the Giants exit to drive parallel to 101 and see the redwoods up close and personal as well as
getting off highway 101 to drive through Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and drive the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway where we saw lots of elk and had some great hikes and walks to see the trees and forest up close. Exit 753 driving north and Exit 765 if driving south; we stopped at the visitor center in Orick and got great current info on the entire park(s) area since they are next to or very close to each other. One piece of great advice was to take the parkway north and then south instead of driving on highway 101 in one of the directions. This way you see things in different lighting and different viewpoints.

We stayed in Arceta especially for it's proximity to the redwoods. What a beautiful stretch of the 101!!! Get off at exit 753 and take the scenic route to 765. Really special ride!!!

It is amazing to stop and walk into the huge tree groves, it so silent. You feel so tiny. The aromas are unforgettable.
This is not to be missed!!

An AMAZING Trip that’s a Must see & experience. This drive was without a doubt the highlight of our day! Stopped several times to take pictures and even take short little walks.

This is by far the most beautiful stretch of road I have ever driven; and I have driven cross-country, from the Northeast to California, three times. The cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the beaches, the rivers, the Redwoods, the many roadside stops offering hiking trails, river access, camping, good local food, unique souvenirs shops, and museums. The drive can be a vacation in itself! Take a long weekend, or several week days, and take your time driving up The Redwood Highway; you will not regret it, or ever forget it. Be sure to take a picture of yourself next to one of the Giants (Redwood trees). You will feel small & insignificant in the best way possible; and you will cherish that picture for a lifetime, as it will remind you of the time to met bonafide ancient (some as old as 1000's of years) 'GIANTS' on Earth.
Fill'er up and go off on the adventure of a lifetime!

The drive through the area is beautiful. It is amazing to see the majestic trees. The shear size is astounding. I highly recommend taking the time to appreciate the area and the natural beauty.

This is a gorgeous drive. Something you have to see for yourself to experience. Words really can't describe.

Good highway trip lots of Woods. Redwood all over stunning Wiews Then You get to Eureka and Arcada.....

We drove this road all down to San Francisco....no regrets! Slow and plodding at best and I don't recommend trailers, but absolutely beautiful! It was a bucket list item for us. The view coming out of legit to the ocean view is incredible! Highly recommend driving this north to south! Stopping at Jedediah red wood park. Take the logging road into crescent city. There really are no words for this drive. But take your time...very challenging road!

This drive takes you through forests of these massive trees. It is something everyone should experience.

We have enjoyed the scenery. We stopped at one of the drive thru trees. A neat thing to see. Heading on up the coast toward Orick

Beautiful drive through one of the most unique and awe inspiring areas on earth. While road is well maintained - don't be in a hurry. It is built to respect the landscape - not to conquer in the interest of fast passage. Relax and enjoy. Towns and amenities are sufficient with no specific stretch without services.

Drove this highway on the way down to San Francisco in my Corvette coupe! What an awesome drive and what incredible sights! I pulled over and took off the roof so we could fully enjoy the full majesty of the giant trees.
You truly can't appreciate the size of the biggest trees until you see them with your own eyes ... Amazing 😁

Every American should see this at least once in their lifetime...! People from all over the world come to see this wonder. There is truly nothing else lie it on the entire planet! The coastline is amazing to behold. Large herds of Roosevelt Elk await travelers who venture to this beautiful location.

Something I'd wanted to do since I'd seen the Sequoias trees in Yosemite National Park.
Wonderful Redwood trees, your eyes went everywhere in disbelief as to what you were seeing.

Just breathe in the scenery of these huge trees on both sides of you as you head for the Redwood parks.

The state parks and Redwood National Park work together as 1 entity allowing free access for entry. Fees for camping are available. Trees are amazing, with lots of hiking options. Enjoyed the whole area from Eureka to Crescent City, where the ocean views are very nice.

Loved this part of our road trip! The redwoods are massive! I have never seen trees this big, not even around Yosemite ! I spent the whole time photographing them ( which really does them no justice!) and going "wow". Totally worth the drive and try and stop wherever you can and walk among the giant redwoods; there are a number of designated stopping places!

I took the 101 from Coos Bay to San Francisco and then the 199 from Crescent City to Grants Pass and they're both beautiful drives through the Redwoods. I highly recommend Avenue of the Giants and spending some time in the Smith River Recreation Area. Super scenic and so worth the drive. Spend an entire day or 7 on the coast and thank me later

Magnificent views all the way. Bring lunch and find a spot, it’s all great. Looking forward to going back to CA someday.

The drive is beautiful but check the road status before you go between Eureka and Crescent City. We were lucky and accidentally hit the closure during the 3 hour window it was open.

Surrounded by tall redwood trees and cool rivers. I love driving up the coast! Don't forget the drive through tree on avenue of the giants, trees of mysterey, and Patrick's point.

This was such a visual overload. Everything was so great to see on a nice sunny day. We will travel this way in the future just to see it again.

What a drive! the most scenic place i think I've ever been. Wonderful winding roads surrounded by the tallest redwoods coupled with sweeping views of the sea. I would recommend this to everyone to do.

This has got to be one of the most relaxing and beautiful highwaysI've driven on. Just the thousands of different shades of green from all of the trees was amazing. The majesticness of the tall Redwoods, the quiet, the fact that there wasn't lots of traffic and you had time to look and drive was so relaxing. We drove to Trinidad on the coast and it was spectacular go from the trees to the Ocean. There are spots to rest and gift shops along the way. Places to let kids out and play or short hikes to take if you feel like a stretch!

I do not use the word amazing often, . The Redwoods tower over all. Lady Bird Johnson and Founders Grove are two must do stops, The area above Eureka is also inspiring with the Pacific on one side of the road and the fores on the other.

This highway is amazing. If you have not taken a trip on this highway off highway 101 on the northern California coast you should place it on your bucket list. Take your time and stop a lot for pictures and exploring. It's definitely worth the small donation to go through the "drive through tree" just for the pictures. Seeing the giant redwoods was one of the highlights during our trip from Seattle to San Francisco.

We were on a long road trip with our visiting friends and really enjoyed the views along this long highway in northwest California. Sea coast, lots of big redwood trees, a unique landscape. Good in the fall when there is a lot of sun.

Easy driving on mostly good roads with spectacular views of both the coast and the redwoods. Take you time and enjoy the sites

The Redwood highway and Redwood National Park are well worth the visit. Excellent views of the Pacific coast. Inland highway sections through redwood groves. Not a scary drive.

Something very poetic about this highway... So much natural beauty made me thank God for creating this world for us...

Completely Charming. Getting to Humboldt is its own experience and part of the fun. Once you are here, fit what you can and know the rest will be here when you get back. Redwood Highway, by all means take the scenic detours, use the pull outs and get lost! Bring picnic fixings. 200 feet off the road you are lost in a good way. Clam beach. Go find the abandoned beached sailboat. Worth a detour. You will no doubt find you own spaces. Enjoy!

When traveling through the redwoods do make sure you take the spur road through the less-traveled, more scenic route off of Hwy 101. It takes about twice as long but the pull-offs offer amazing photo opportunities of an absolutely amazing forest.

A bit curvy, and heavy with traffic at this time of year (July). The majestic views of the redwood trees is breathtaking. Well worth the drive!!

There is so much to see and appreciate along the Redwood Highway and most of it is free to do. This corner of California with its ocean, fog, cool temperatures, and magnificent trees is a wonderful place to spend some time. Take some stops along the way and enjoy nature at its best!

Worth the drive. Very curvy roads but take your time and stop at all the little pull out areas. Amazing scenery, wildlife and nature trails around. Just beautiful.

I have been fortunate enough to drive the Redwood Highway several times over the years, and never tire of the beauty of the hills and trees. There are a few touristy stops along the way, if you need to take a break, and several stands of redwoods to admire. The Forest Service has some informational services, worth the stop. There are few gas stations or public restrooms, so be sure to top off & empty out before starting your trip.

Magnificent Redwoods clinging to the coastline . We came here along the 101 before heading to Avenue of the Giants.

This has to be one of the most beautiful and relaxing road trips in the world. I highly recommend stopping to walk along a trail in at least one of the redwood parks. Prairie Creek, Humboldt Redwoods and Jedediah Smith are some of my favorites for the feeling of serenity that the redwoods inspire. If you like spectacular ocean views,Patrick's Point is the park to visit.

travelled the 101 during August driving between San Francisco and Seattle. Absolutely loved the trip. Lots of jaw dropping moments. my personal highlight was Humboldt NP. Stop at any ranger stations to get information etc

Stunning, Lovely, Breathtaking......not to miss! Hopefully you’ll be able to see the Redwoods, it can be very cold! August is the best time to view the highway. It may rain and it might surprise you. Hopefully it will be mellow! Just cross your fingers!

Beautiful drive yes there is traffic near the Bay Area but a wonderful drive. Very curvy in areas so use care and pull over for fast drivers. Try to stop,at the small towns lots of gyms.

Take this spectacular drive if you get a chance to enjoy some stunning scenery. You can imagine some of the views but worth doing however remember to concentrate.

The Drury Scenic Drive and the Avenue of the Giants are a must do. Stop and take a walk at any of the many roadside trails through the redwoods. Limited parking at most keeps the crowds at bay to allow full enjoyment of the wonderous redwoods.

Wonderful drive through National and State Redwood Parks. Lots of opportunities for turn outs, vistas, trails and road excursions. Really incredible trees and old growth forests.

The drive through the redwoods and next to the ocean was fantastic. Take your time and do not hurry. We enjoyed the drive.

The Redwoods are such beautiful trees. Make sure to stop along the way to get out and hike. The state and federal parks are all terrific.

We drove up to Eureka along the Redwood Highway, and had to stop several times along the way to take in the beautiful vistas. Take the Avenue of Giants when you get to it, that is even more amazing.

Absolutely beautiful American highway! Truly puts life into perspective with the scenic views of the pacific and redwoods. Many pull off points to enjoy but bring a jacket for any hikes. It can be a cold Alaskan breeze through these parts.

I loved this beautiful drive through the giant trees. We visited the Shrine drive-through tree and the tree house.

WE drove from Sacramento to just south of Cersent City, stopping many times to view and photograph thr Redwoods

Gorgeous, huge trees in a peaceful setting! A beautiful drive. Leave yourself time to stop and walk among these giants!

The road was a fairly easy drive. There are about 3 - 4 places where construction is happening. Most of the time you may be stopped up to about 5 - 10 minutes. There is a stretch just before getting to Crescent City (north) or just leaving Crescent City (south), that they decided to shut down for 1 hour. That was a lot of fun....not.
But you will see a lot of Redwoods and other large trees. If you are driving there are sections of switchbacks that can be annoying.
I would do this drive again though.

Absolutely a most wonderful highway to drive! The roads have been updated, for the most parts and the drive is really worth the views! It's not as heavily traveled as the I-5 and the passing lanes are decently spaced.

We were fortunate enough to be driven along this highway. What an amazing construction through such a beautiful area.
It needs trying from both directions and I feel we saw it at its best with the sun shining through the majestic trees.
Stunning

The 101 in Oregon down to California is so worth the drive. We love to travel the 2 lanes and the traffic was not bad. Seemed like every corner provided another breath taking view or sight. Once we got to Arcata we turned off and headed over 299 towards Redding. Traffic was getting busier on the 101. 299 was another beautiful drive.

No need to get off of the beaten path. Highway 101 is a great drive through high redwood forests. Take the slow lane and the turnouts.

I grew up in the area the drive screams home to me. For any first timers the fact you can get out and walk among the giant redwoods and experience the tranquility of the forrest right off the high way. Further north ocean views and access, also elk sightings. Beautiful

Unfortunately US 101 is partly moving towards the ocean...... and hence there are always ongoing repair works.
The views from the roadside are stunning and you drive into the Redwood trees.

Loved taking this highway all through northern CA - enjoyed all the non-glamour of the old time roadside attractions and the low key vibe. We did pull out vistas and side roads to nowhere on this trip. This was so relaxing

We were travelling in a tourists bus so we could not stop frequently at roadside hotels ,restaurant ,gift shops . However we enjoyed the Red wood forest area along the highway no 101immesely
The place is famous for world's tallest trees called red wood trees. They are not only tall but have huge girth as well. We were informed by our Guide that these trees live up to thousands of yrs. These tall and sturdy trees were beautifying the road and we enjoyed the beauty of the entire stretch .

We love traveling the highway through the redwoods. It makes us proud that it is so we’ll preserved and still so very beautiful in every season.

There are several one-lane, traffic light controlled stops, 5 in all, from Crescent City to Trinidad.

Once the morning haze/fog lifted we had great views of the stunning California Coastline. The giant Redwoods on the Scenic Bi-way through Redwoods National and State park is a must see.

Roads are being worked on but good. Be ready for picture taking as views happen quickly when you crest a hill for panoramas.

I love to drive on this road. Even though at night, we had a full moon and the impression I had eas to drive in the middle of giants!!!! Unforgetable

An amazing drive through the redwoods in the Ave of the Giants and Redwood National Park areas. Will come back.

The millions of trees are really impressive and it's well worth a detour off the 101 to drive in 96% shade for a few miles.

Big trees litter the road. Get off 101 and follow 254 Avenue of the Giants as a alternative path. End up in the same spot.

The Redwood Highway is something of a nebulous thing starting with Hwy 199 at Grants Pass, Oregon, connecting to Hwy 101 just north of Crescent City, CA to Leggett, CA, then following Hwy 1 south through San Francisco to Santa Cruz.
Following this path takes you in and out of redwood groves the entire distance, sometimes in national parks, sometimes in state parks, sometimes in neither or both. Having driven the length, IMHO the most impressive section of the drive is from Grants Pass to Mendocino with Jedidiah Smith State (reviewed on Tripadvisor) north of Crescent City being the absolute best spot of them all.
Passing through many of the groves, giant redwoods line both sides of the road, which is beautiful but a bit frustrating because you cannot slow down or park to enjoy them. However, Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park north of Crescent City and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park/Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway near Orick, CA (reviewed on Tripadvisor) are places where you can park and fully appreciate the trees and their surroundings. Allow yourself at least 2-3 days to make this drive so that you may enjoy not only the redwoods, but the coastal views and the communities along the way.

Very scenic 175 mile drive in norther CA. Clusters of the tallest living thing on our planet, the sequoia sempervirens (red woods). Dramatic scenery in between. Research the drive before you do it as there are some great spots to stop along the way.

If you are driving through this region then this is a must. Plenty of places to stop off and admire one of the natural wonders of the world. Quaint towns too.

A very scenic drive. The redwood trees were spectacular and further north, lots of impressive sand dunes.

Yes, there is a an area near US 101 called the Avenue Of The Giants. But it's only about 35 miles long, and it's basically just a touristy area. But you can expand on that on a section of US 101 that starts near Santa Cruz, California and runs to just past the California \ Oregon State line. There are many fantastic state Parks, Redwood National and State Parks, quaint seaside villages such as Eureka, Arcata and Trinidad, many hiking and backpacking opportunities all within 20 to 30 miles of US 101. That's approximately about 450 miles of great travel among the giant Sequoia Sempervirens, also known as Coast Redwoods. The tallest trees on Earth. If you like trees, you can't beat this place. Because you won't find these Redwoods anywhere else.

Fell in love with the redwood forest. The old redwood highway has many great stops and directions to see some amazing spots

Going down 101/1 from Seattle to San Francisco is one of my all-time favorite drives, and I recommend everyone take the time to do it at least once in their lives, if possible. I've done it as a camping trip (there's wonderful private and public spots all up and down the corridor) as well as a hotel trip (things can get a little spotty between Eureka, Fort Bragg, and SF, so plan accordingly) and both ways are splendid. If you're doing the drive in the summer, I suggest breaking up your legs by 5 hour max increments to give yourself enough time to wander about the small towns and pop out of the car to take photos; winter you may want to break those into 3 or 4 hour increments as the sun starts setting at around 4pm and the winding roads aren't as enjoyable to drive in the foggy dark.

If you're in the area you really should take the slight detour and drive this road. It's picture perfect and I guarantee you will not be able to resist the urge to stop and experience the majesty of the magnificent trees.

We loved this part of our trip especially through the "Avenue of Giants",we stopped and took some great photo's, really is a beautiful part of the world, the trees are massive.

It is breath taking and so beautiful The trees are magnificent....unbelievable. I have done the drive several times and look forward to returning.

Great American roadway. Wonderful, especially north of Laytonville. The 101 still goes through downtown Eureka. Very nice motorcycle ride.

Living locally, we have been able to make this drive many times. We never fail to be awed by the majestic forests that line this road. The 101 portion is the original road that was bypassed by the new highway. There are many places to stop along the way to get a closer look at the Redwood trees.

Absolutely gorgeous drive...not to missed if you are in this part of California. We took.it slow as each part of the highway provided new surprises.

US Highway 101 between Leggett and Crescent City in northern California is nicknamed "The Redwood Highway" because it winds through the redwood forest along the Pacific Coast. We drove the 175-mile route from north to south in one long day, but it would be easy to find enough activities to fill an entire week. We were traveling with a wheelchair, so we focused on locations that are wheelchair-accessible. The scenery in this region is simply breathtaking and awe-inspiring- you can see a lot right from the car windows. The road passes through Redwood National and State Parks, which is really a collection of several parks working in partnership to protect the redwoods. We started at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park where we stopped at the visitor center in Hiouchi for a map and information, then hiked the accessible Reed-Simpson/Peterson Memorial Loop on Walker Road. Next we headed for the coast and saw a herd of elk lounging in a field along the highway south of Crescent City. We made some brief stops at viewpoints at Del Norte State Park beach, but it was cool and foggy so that impaired our view. We detoured off US101 onto the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, which passes through redwood groves in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. (It runs parallel to US101 for 9 miles then rejoins it.) We stopped at the visitor center and hiked the accessible Prairie Creek Trail and Foothill Trail to the Big Tree. Back on US101, we continued south along the coast to Trinidad, where we stopped for a seafood lunch and checked out the lighthouse. In the afternoon, we detoured off US101 onto the Avenue of the Giants into Humboldt State Park and drove among the massive trees. This scenic drive parallels US101 for about 30 miles, with several opportunities to get on/off. There are pullouts for photo ops and trail heads all along the parkway. Again we stopped at the visitor center, and hiked the accessible Gould Grove Nature Loop and the Fleishmann Grove Trails. From there it was just a short distance to our hotel in Garberville. All of the activities mentioned above were free, and most of them have their own Tripadvisor pages with more detail. There are several other parks and visitor centers that we didn't explore, as well as small towns with museums and galleries. There are also some fun, kitschy attractions like drive-through trees, houses built in trees, and a gondola ride through the trees. These are privately-owned and charge admission. The highway varies between two and four lanes and was well-maintained. We ran into a few construction zones, so it's a good idea to check ahead. Eureka was the only place with much traffic.

Drove hwy 101 from Eureka, CA to Astoria, WA. Beautiful drive with lots of scenic overlooks, small towns with great eateries, gift shops and recreation and camping areas.
The Redwoods are fantastic with lots of hiking trails to take. Easy parking so long as you stay away from the busy weekends.

The drive is spectacular. Views of the rugged coastline are amazing. Several places to stop and admire the views of both the ocean and trees.

I have loved the driving over the last few days. Yes the roads a a bit bumpy and there has just been the worst flooding in 20 years. But it is great driving. Stick to the coast roads. Lovely twisty road. A great drive through small towns, coastal cliffs, red wood forests.
Very few other cars. Not sure if that’s normal for this time of year or because of the flooding earlier in the week.
Loved the drive.

If you can manage it, spend a few days in the park(s). The area, from ranger-lead tours to magnificent beaches to the BIG trees is well worth a few days. But, if you can only manage a drive along 101, prepare to marvel (and to plan a return trip).

You definitely want to take the scenic route when travelling up the California/Oregon coast. Great views and many great places to stop.

Wonderful drive to make with many beaches to stop at! Beautiful and scenic. Not too much traffic and minimal roadwork when we went.

This is such a wonderful drive up to the Oregon border. We stopped to hike in Lady Bird Johnson Grove. This is the place to really experience the heavy untouched, damp forest floor of the giants. It is a fairly easy 2 mile hiking loop you will never forget. You can stand inside a long ago burned out trunk of a redwood that is still living and pushing 150-200 ft up. You can hear the drops of water hitting the ground. Ferns all over the forest floor. Do not miss.
We came up from Buellton Ca. Thats a 600 mile drive! This darn state is some 950 miles long. Geez, back east you could be in over 10-12 states for a drive like this.

Redwood Highway is basically Highway 10 one as it was built to bypass the Avenue of the Giants. It's a warm modern highway than the Avenue of the Giants. While it is scenic in its own right, it does not have the splendor of the famous Avenue is mostly four lanes. In recent years, there has been construction to improve the highway, and it often causes delays.

We drove the highway in late October to visit my son up in Willow Creek. Much of the road is now divided highway, but a few two-lane stretches still remain. Overall, it was a nice, scenic drive.

Definitely a must do if you're only in the area for a short time. It rained the day that I drove through but unbelievable none the less

Good highway with wonderful views of redwoods. Ample stopping points for photos and sightseeing. Go early to avoid high traffic.

The most scenic highway in the country. Where else can you see the Pacific Ocean and Redwood forests for miles. We have all the scenery, and light traffic. Plenty of turn outs for viewing or hiking.

This drive is really really nice and is well worth but get off the highway and take the alternate scenic route which whips back and forth along US-101, gives you a very nice view of the Redwood forest and you can stop a the numerous stops recommended with eateries, shops and giant tree exhibits. Don't miss any and take it easy when you are driving thru. Go ahead and a handful of trails to walk thru and this unique nature site created by the giant trees. You will love it and there are plenty of picture perfect trees, stumps, falllen over giant trees etc. etc. they are all worth stopping and clicking pictures thru.
Highly recommend

Nice highway to drive along, some parts are under reconstruction after the wash outs, great views in some places

Anyone in area should take time to drive this highway an slowly be amazed at the large tall redwoods.

We just traveled through the Redwood Highway and enjoyed the experience very much. The trees are unbelievable. There is nothing to describe this experience. It was on my bucket list and the experience was beyond anything I could have EVER imagined. Take a walk in the forest....definition of peace.
Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park
We entered the Jedediah Smith Park just SW of Bertelda, CA off of Hwy 199 and thoroughly enjoyed drive thru the park on Douglas Park Dr and Howland Hill Rd towards Crescent City. You drive right up next to the redwoods for a while, it was beautiful. We also drove down the coast to Eureka, CA on Hwy 101, then back up through Lincoln City, OR on 101. It's a gorgeous drive. Try to catch the high tide, it's even more amazing! Lots of nice shops and restaurants with coastal views along the way.
