If your kids are into dinosaurs, this is the place to take them

By mamaj2010 |

I took my kids (ages 15 and 6) because I knew my 6-year-old would absolutely LOVE seeing the dinosaur, but I was unprepared for how much I loved it also!

Super informative, the dinosaur fossils are up close and personal, and I also really loved the exhibit on the Native people of Oklahoma.

Good Museum for Price

By Moorhead3282 |

Visited today with 4 kids ages 13, 10, 7, and 4. It was a pretty good museum with some interactive parts for kids. The discovery room was pretty cool where the kids could put hands on some different things. It doesn't take that long to move through the museum unless you are going to read every single item. I think they probably would have enjoyed it more if we haven't already hit other museums in OK with some of the same type exhibits. It's worthwhile though if you are looking for some indoor entertainment in Norman at a good price.

Really neat place

By Colby J |

Upon arrival I noticed this absolutely huge building. There was plenty of parking and not very many people there. The price of admission wasn't bad but it didn't include everything they offered that day. I was there with my daughters class and there was some interactive thing that I did not pay for. Even without doing that there was plenty to see. Now if you are not the type of person that like to read every little thing then you could make it through it all pretty quick. The class I was with participated in a scavenger hunt and this took some time but was really fun and the kids learned a few things. So if you are planning on going make sure to allow yourself plenty of time in the museum, plan a place to eat or bring a sack lunch and prepare for a day of fun. The only gripe I have is some of the security guards could have been more patient with the kids and a little bit friendlier towards the parents.

Relaxing

By sarali20 |

Good history, great things to see and to spend some quality time with the family! Like it and enjoyed it even though I'm not the museum type. If you are in the are I don't see why not give it a try...

Interesting place for Elementary, middle & high schoolers!

By crazym0m0f4 |

Just spent a couple of hours with my 4 kids ages 9, 12, 14, & 16. My sister's kids are 10 & 12 and were with us. Oklahoma summers can be brutal and this was a great place to spend an afternoon! It is reasonably priced at $8/per adult and $5/child (ages up to 17). It is only opened until 5p. But that was plenty of time for us. Great gift shop!

We loved the little scavenger hunt at the beginning, which applied to the Space area of the museum. For the older kids, it was pretty easy, but for my 9 yr old, we spent some time reading through the different information about comets and meteors to find the answers. The prize at the end was minimal but who cares! Knowing there's a prize is big motivation!

The Discovery Center is for little hands! Lots of "please touch" gets them engaged and learning!

We moved on over to what we call the dinasaur museum across the hall. This museum really did a wonderful job with this exhibit! Many of the dinosaur skeletons are as much as 85% real with some of the sections of the skeleton being recreated.

Now, I want to take a moment to let those who have a "creationist" viewpoint know that this is purely evolutionist theory being propagated, here. However, as a teaching parent, this is a great opportunity to educate your children and explain the difference between the views.

Now, back to the museum! We loved the dinosaurs, it's beautifully created. We moved upstairs to the "People of Oklahoma" exhibit, which as my sister said was "the best Native American exhibit I've ever seen!" Lots of wonderful artifacts to see! Description of traditional bison hunt, nice example of a Canoe and two homes, and a examples of apparel, beadwork, and pictures of cradle boards for the babies.

Across the hall in the Natural Wonders area are some really great and lifelike animals. It's just beautiful! Wonderful descriptions of nature in a very natural looking environment beautifully recreated!

We thoroughly enjoyed this museum! And it's on OU's campus, so easy to explore there, too!

Inexpensive place to take your kids

By ksufan88 |

This museum on the campus of Oklahoma University has lots of interesting and interactive things for your kids to see and do. It would be very difficult to see it all in an hour so expect to spend a couple. The admission ($5 adults/$3 children) is affordable enough to take the whole family. The dinosaur exhibits were my favorite and are sure to interest pretty much everyone. The special exhibit while we were there was about how trees are used in the world, but it was scheduled to close on May 3rd and be replaced by an exhibit of bird art on May 16th.

dinosaur crazy 5 year old

By CrittleMonkey |

Great small museum that worked well for our 5 year old and 1 year old. Inexpensive and a nice place to visit for the afternoon.

Great way to spend a day

By Jordyn L |

This is a great museum to take the kids to. There are enough interactive exhibits that they don't feel the need to touch the stuff they aren't supposed to. The kids room is a lot of fun and they always have stuff going on. Plus I believe it's every first Monday of the month that it's free. If you have kids anywhere from toddler to teens this is a great time.

Wonderful surprise

By gwynn1 |

This museum is well done with an excellent layout. It covered birds, animal evolution, and human development in this area. Great presentation.

Amazing dinosaur fossils collection

By ViajeroNJ |

This is a great museum to visit if you are in Noble. It has a great collection of dinosaur fossils. Excellent kids interaction through the museum. Entrance is just $8. They have the Guinness World Record for the largest dinosaur skull. Recommended.

Better than Jurassic Park!

By Dane M |

This University Museum which traces several millions of years of Oklahoma's natural life is one of the best natural history museums I have ever seen. Its gigantic dinosaurs are not Hollywood reproductions but skeletons of Pentaceratops, Apatosaurus, etc. found in Oklahoma. The spectacular presentation of the different specimens is enhanced by the beautiful architecture. Not to be missed, the other exhibitions featuring the people of Oklahoma and an orientation gallery are masterfully curated. For visitors ranging from age six to 86, this museum is a gem and fabulous instrument to explore natural history.

Important Museum

By Bob W |

I volunteer at the Museum and see many families with children enjoying the experience and learning and teaching. The exhibits are changed regularly, and many special events are held there.

Do not miss this Museum in Norman, OK>

A treasure in Norman, OK

By Etazla |

This museum is a wonderful family destination. In addition to the exhibits, the museum offers a behind the scene tour for members, science camps for children and youth, native american languages activities, volunteer opportunities, and the architecture is so beautiful people rent it for special events.

Great for Kids or groups

We have been going here since we were kids, and the experience is amazing! My kids absolutely love going, and exploring. Definitely worth it!

Dinosaurs Big Time in Oklahoma!

By Teresa S |

Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is the largest University Natural History Museum in the World. As if the arranged life-size -2 story dinosaurs on exhibit weren't impressive enough, this museum also houses a part of a dinosaur found in Oklahoma known to be the largest in the World.Be sure to ride the Dinovator up the Belly of the Beast to the 2nd floor, and visit the Native and Cultural exhibits that inspire us to see more of our great state of Oklahoma!

Fine museum for a small town

By dawgdok |

I am from NYC which has the premier natural history museum in this country and while this is a much smaller museum, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. We also spent a lot longer in here than I would have thought. Admission is $8. We came in the morning and did the first floor which meanders around the exhibit, showing a timeline of ancient history through the use of fossils and such. We left for lunch and came back to do the upstairs, which has some exhibits on OK native history and OK biology. The docents were wonderful and we spent a long time chatting with them, about some of the exhibits and then also just friendly exchanges. We spent so much time chatting with them that we closed out the museum, but we still had a chance to see everything. All in all a wonderful day at the museum.

Superlative museum experience!

By SueCliff52 |

Sam Noble Museum grew out of the original Stovall Museum on campus. This is a first rate university museum. There are large dinosaur skeletons, all manner of lesser dinos, several fantastic hands-on historical animal exhibits from the age of dinosaurs to present day Oklahoma. You'll also find a half floor of indigenous peoples' historical village and houses, as well as a hands-on discovery room for children. This museum is worth your time and financial support!

Could spend weeks there

By cpjs |

I stopped in just because I'm interested in dinosaurs and evolution. I was blown away by all that I learned during my walks. I've been to a few natural history museums, but this was the best learning experience of them all. I came away with a much better understanding of how the land forms, the biota, the critters, and the climate all interacted. I'm eager to return.

Beautiful and fun museum of natural history

By elly319 |

It's got a lot of interesting exhibitions, from dinosaurs to space. It also has many fun activities which make it suitable for kids.

A hidden treasure!

By AL I |

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, better just call it the "SAM" is a hidden treasure that is well worth seeking out. WIth the collection of the old Stovall Museum supplemented and updated with modern archaeological finds, excellent dioramas and traveling exhibits that periodically change you're missing out if you don't schedule a trip to the Sam. Also while you're there check out the Red BUD Cafe which has excellent food and quick service. Try the soup and sandwich combo--the vegetable beef soup is the best in town. The gift shop is a destination all of its own for those hard-to-find items and memorabilia about your trip to the Sam.

Great for family's!

"Dinosaur" museum

By craig_anna |

Great museum for all ages. New exhibits rotate in and out throughout the year. If you are in Norman , take time to visit this treasure.

Excellent Museum to visit.

By Lori L |

A lot of things to see, very interesting artifacts about Oklahoma and the lives of the past. Great gift shop with very courteous staff to help you.

Not as much to see as I would have thought by the size of the building.

By tdhat |

From the outside, it seems like you are gonna be in the building for hours seeing everything, but instead takes about 30 minutes.

Most Excellent Collections

By Trickstersawpix |

This was a beautiful museum with great collections of interest for many different areas. I especially liked the dinosaur room and all the wonderful exhibits and the Native American gallery. If you have kiddos, there is a special Discovery Room with hands-on activities to interest kids of all ages. The staff was very friendly and informative, great gift shop. Allow yourself a lot of time to take it all in, most excellent stop on your trip.

What a great place.

By Ratorres |

Took four grandchildren age range 16 to 7 and each enjoyed and loved it. The museum has an exceptional dinosaur exhibit and is laid out in a logical manner. We spent about three hours there including lunch in the museum lunch room. We had lunch late about 1 or 130PM so there was a limited selection - there had been a couple of school-bus loads of kids in there earlier.
The person working the snack bar was very helpful and friendly.

Worth the visit, especially with kids

By Mike C |

What a great place to bring kids. They have a Discovery Room where very young children can play. The exhibits are excellent. We could spend all day in this museum.

One of the largest university-affiliated natural history museums in the U.S.

By Theresa V |

I have been going to the SNOMNH since before it was located in the current building. It is a great natural history museum, and I've been to many. The skeletons which show the history of life are well-displayed and in a thoughtful progression--really great exhibit that both kids and adults love. The Discovery Room is fun for smaller children. There is usually at least one special exhibit going, and many of them have been interesting and informative. Upstairs there is a very sensitive display about the first peoples of Oklahoma--done with the consultation of local tribes and the participation of anthropologists sensitive to the portrayal of indigenous people--the people are not objects here, they are actual people understood through artifacts and their own words. There's also the Oklahoma wildlife exhibition--with some cool displays that kids love. I am quite partial to the bats in the cave exhibit myself--but many different biomes are on display. There's a small cafeteria (which seems to often be closed) and a nice little giftshop. My kids have been coming here since they were born--and they are now teenagers and still enjoy going a couple of times per year. If the food service were better, I would give the place five stars. Easy and free parking. Worth a visit!

Nice Musuem

By Rose Anonymous |

Cool museum to see dinosaurs, Native Americans, and right now they have a neat exhibit on Narwals with some information on the Inuits.

Been wanting to see this one for years

By Bemmc |

Price was great. The science activites were very engaging. It will take me a few visits as I want to do them all and see it all. Only thing I would improve is to add a more inviting and full service cafe but the one there would keep the hunger away. Just wanted something more elegant that day I guess.

Day trip with my twins

By Reyna T |

My twin 12 year old boys enjoyed it. They enjoy dinasours and the megalodon display they had going. They compared the displays to stuff they already knew from science class.

Love this

By cynthiad916 |

The Sam Noble Museum is one of our favorite spots to go when visiting Norman Oklahoma. The kids love it and it keeps us entertained for hours!

Not so hidden gem

By NIB80 |

This museum is bright, welcoming, and well organized. There are some permanent type of displays and some rotating displays. The dinosaur exhibits are amazing. It's a must see in Norman.

Top Notch Natural History Museum in Norman

By 634henryr |

In southern Norman, the Natural History Museum is a first class museum. Oklahoma not only has some greatly museums but this is one of them. Different parts of the museum will attract different interests but it is well worth a look.

Family fun

By Trina R |

This museum is a first class place to go and see natural history as well as Native Indian history. There is a hands on area for younger kids and is a nice family destination.

Great day trip with the kids.

By juliedan2016 |

This is a nice place to see fossils and artifacts. The children will enjoy the big dinosaur . Gift shop and food are available so plan to stay the day. People who like archeology will like this place the best.

Nice museum for a weekend getaway

By vaca13579 |

Initially I was worried this museum was on the smaller side and debated driving to the Science Museum Oklahoma. We were staying in Norman and this was the more convenient option. We were not disappointed and spent 2 hours here and were able to see everything we wanted. The dinosaurs were a hit with our family but all the exhibits were interesting and I especially enjoyed how it all tied into Oklahoma. We were not rushed and had enough time to make the drive to tour the Oklahoma City Memorial and Museum in the same day.

Dino museum

By swaffy |

My grandchildren (3 & 4) love to go to the dinosaur museum. It's on their monthly routine, so much so that my daughter bought a yearly pass for them. They've invited me to join them on several occasions. Truly a treat.

Excellent day at the museum

By Sally C |

Great place to take your family for a day of fun and education. The parking is close and the exhibits are fun and interactive. Kids even have a place they can play and learn.

Fun Family outing

By Jesse A |

Lots to see and do for the price, my children always love going to San Noble Museum. The dinosaur bones are awesome along with the forest area on the second floor. lots of hands on things for children to do as well.

While waiting on the ballet.......

By Teresa C |

.....my granddaughter stopped in to take a quick look-see and spent quite a bit of time. She is only 8 and was fascinated with the collection as she is quite the little artist and study. We will definitely make a planned trip to spend more time as she still asks about returning.

Great place for a couple of hours of enjoyment

By overtheline2 |

They're easily accessed and have an array of interesting historical information and photos. Great place to go for an afternoon getaway.

Wow

Wonderful collections. I believe one day is not enough to see entire museum. We had to visit again. It is one of the best museum I have visited.

Business School Alumni Awards Dinner

By Byron_Hennessey |

I attended an annual awards dinner at the museum, which was open to the attendees. I wish I had more time to explore; the museum exhibits are excellent; very informative and detailed. I plan to visit the museum on my next trip to Norman.

Small

By larryorkeith |

It's a bit high for what you get. I was not impressed. No tour guides. On the plus side it is very clean. The outside is actually more impressive to me. There was 13 of us and it was not busy at all.

Lots of well done installations

By SeattleBuster |

The displays are beautiful and the special exhibits can be great (right now its a Shakespeare First Folio, Galileo, and a collection of 16th century books on natural history). Great place to take kids who are curious and/or interested in science or nature. This is not a full-day outing, but could easily be combined with other activities in Norman to make a very full day for kids.

Great place to see huge dinosauers

By Loretta V |

Took my grandkids and they loved the dinosauers. At the time, Jurassic Park had just come out and they loved the movie so they loved Sam Noble. It was not August of 2014 but that was the oldest choice for dates they gave me.

Great way to spend the day.

By Jacky C |

Good exhibits and clean. Staff was a little too helpful. The lady followed us around pointing out what she liked the most. We prefer to look ourselves. But, she was friendly...

Wonderful smaller museum

By Robert P |

I really like going to this museum. It has something for all ages of my family. The natural history on the first floor appeals with great information and has hands on interaction for the kids (and adults) to keep us all engaged. The upstairs artistic area with wonderful local artistry is a nice addition to show how individuals have viewed the Oklahoma area through their eyes. Staff is always really pleasant and eager to share their expertise. One of the pricier museums I've visited, but worth it.

Beautiful facility

By SandyMMc |

This beautiful facility is a favorite for local folks. The Hall of Ancient Life is awesome. Displays show different cultures around the globe. It includes a section of the Native American culture in our area. Kids enjoy the dinosaur exhibits (it’s really quite extensive).
The facility can also be used as a venue for banquets, business functions and weddings.

A museum for all ages

By Jalal F |

This is an amazing museum and is in an unexpected place: Norman Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma with the help of Sam Noble Foundation to an amazing Museum you could only find in major metropolitan cities.

Amazing

By babycatlori |

Loved the entire place. Lots of history, allow a good 3 hours to see everything. Friendly staff. Amazing displays.

A must see!

By LifesJourney54 |

We took 3 grandsons, ages 9, 7, & 5. For 5 of us with tax it was $30. A great price for a great time. We were there 2 1/2 hours. Everyone had a great time. Self guided. What a treasure it is for Oklahoma! Very well organized, clean, informative and great for all ages. We booked ahead of time but really no need to. A great adventure on a day when it was too hot to be outside.

Great Museum

By JRogers1966 |

This is a great museum with lots a awesome exhibits. There is an area for young kids to get their creativity on!! No all that big, but a nice, not so crowded place to go and spend 2-3 hours with the kiddos. Give it a shot if you are looking for a place to hang out on a Saturday afternoon!!

Fun way to spend an afternoon

By QuirkyDrivenLife |

Did you know the largest skull of any land animal ever found is on display in Norman, Oklahoma? The Pentaceratops skull was found in San Juan County, New Mexico, and measures 10 1/2 feet high!

We had so much fun on our visit. Something for everyone to look at and in our group, we had all ages ranging from 8 to 79. The dinosaurs were probably the best part and I really enjoy enjoyed the natural Oklahoma habitat area. Fun way to spend the afternoon and it’s nice to get out of the weather.

*OU Students & alumni get in free so bring something to verify it 👍🏻

Native Exhibits and Dinosaur Skeletons are the Star Attractions

By apdemas |

Absolutely agree with the previous posters, the dinosaurs are amazing. They even have a Guiness record for the largest single skull on a dinosaur called a pentacerotops, which I'd never heard of before. It was spectacular, though!

They've also got some neat exhibits on Native American arts and artifacts. Amusingly they've got modern interpretations of classic bead techniques. Either that or the tribes here predicted Angry Birds and Hello Kitty pretty early on...

It's a good-sized museum, so you can learn a lot without feeling overwhelmed. They even have a neat little exhibit showing how they prep artifacts and how those help various scientific disciplines.

About as good as it gets when it comes to Natural History.

By David M |

This is a great place if you're interested in science and archaeology et al. The displays are interestingly built and the information is outstanding.

Great for a Family Day

By V L |

Great for a day with the family, Lots of things to keep you looking and educational. Enjoy and take your time.

Excellent Collections and Exhibits

By Valerie B |

See the largest dinosaur skull ever found, learn some interesting Oklahoma history and enjoy the exhibits of our diverse ecology. Very well kept museum and the admission price is very fair.

Galileo's World Exhibition

By Evecat |

The museum is amazing, however, the new exhibit is A MUST SEE! This incredible exhibit actually placed at 6 different venues throughout the University of Oklahoma Campus, the SN is just one of them. There are original texts Galileo First Editions, some signed by him. Hands on exhibits with instruments he used to determine his theories about the cosmos. Hurry-- it's only there until August 2016!

The exhibition is also in the Bizzell Memorial Library, Fifth Floor. Another must see...don't be intimidated go see this amazing collection! Also, original book of Shakespeare, too. They lived during the same time!

I know I will be returning to discover what I missed during my first pass through! It really is an amazing part of history and to have 12 original works in Norman, Oklahoma is a gift to be shared.

One of the best fossil displays I've seen

By naturetack |

Overall, an amazing museum that feels cutting edge while retaining the charm of an "old-school" museum. I was blown away by the Hall of Ancient Life. This museum is able to combine actual fossils, dioramas, and murals into some of the most well-done museum exhibits I have seen in a long time. The exhibits were educational but not boring, interesting without dumbing down the material. The museum showcases many unique fossils, including the largest fossil skull on record! I was really impressed. The other exhibit halls were pretty interesting, including one on local wildlife and habitats, and another explaining how the museum displays are put together.

A Fun Way To Spend An Afternoon!

By LynninNM |

We love to spend a few hours here when visiting OU. There are many wonderful exhibits to look at. It's clean and the docents are very helpful and friendly. Easy to find. Great parking. Fun gift shop.

What fun

By Cathy B |

We had a solid day. The kids were very happy and that means... mom was too! We thought the staff was wonderful and helpful. They really know their stuff. They made the day informative as well as entertaining. Definitely, worth it if you want to explore Norman.

See the DINO's

By Dee H |

Excellent Museum. Located on the beautiful campus of the University of Oklahoma. See the various types of animal/mammal that lived over 1000 of years ago. The displays have movement and sound. Some of the displays may frighten the very young. But if you present it with a positive reaction (we laugh and tell them stories about the big ones) Usually they relax and enjoy. Facility has a great room for the kids to have an opportunity to dig for dinosaurs and other treasures. It is handicap accessible with elevators. The museum is a wonderful place to hold a reception/fundraiser- anything. The staff have always greeted us with a smile and assistant with anything. Don't miss out!

Beating the Summer Heat in OKC Area

The Boy Loves Dinosaurs

By 783sherrif |

My 4 year old grandson and his parents had a terrific day at the museum. The trip took about 2 hours for him to see everything. By the time we left he was worn out! He loved all the dinosaur exhibits.

By Kimberly B |

Neat place to visit!! There is a little bit of everything to see. The dinosaurs were definitely the favorite.

In Depth View of Oklahoma's Natural History and Indigenous Peoples

By pattravel84 |

A highlight visit to Oklahoma! The museum contains a wonderful depiction of Oklahoma's
nature and life through the eons. There are artifacts, beautiful dioramas and descriptions to supplement the presentations. There are many "hands on" displays for the children to experience.

Outstanding!!

By monksters |

I've had the opportunity to visit the museum on several occasions with my now ten year old son. Often we are there for scouting programs which are fabulous. The exhibits are fantastic and the docents are extremely helpful. They have a nice gift shop and the best part is the cost. The last time I was there it was only $5 per adult.

Great Science Museum

By Valacioli |

A wonderful surprise in Norman: a science museum with unique pieces. Interactive, very interesting. It is small but has a different collection. I highly recommend the visit

Beautiful, interesting exhibits

By raiderlex |

We were visiting Norman from out-of-town and had heard that the Sam Noble Museum was a must-see. We couldn't believe that this was a university museum! It was very well-done, and the building is beautiful. The exhibits were very interesting. We enjoyed talking with the sweet woman in the dinosaur area of the Hall of Ancient Life who shared so much knowledge and information with us about what we were seeing in the exhibits. If you're an out-of-towner, look around your hotel brochures area for a 2-for-1 coupon for this museum. A fun visit!

Always Something Interesting

The place to bring the whole family

By btarwater13 |

Millions of things to see in one place , from dinosaurs to natives American exhibits. We see new and different things every time we visit the museum.

Kids enjoyed it

By BinMcKin |

The museum is excellent! Very well put together and tells the story of Oklahoma in prehistoric times, even before the dinosaurs and during the different mass extinctions. It also covers the Native American peoples of the area. We enjoyed our visit. It took us about an hour and a half, but we didn't rad everything so it may take longer with older kids.

lots to enjoy and learn here

By Lorna B. |

My husband & I recently visited this museum while in OKC for a week. The museum was easy to find, as was ample free parking (not always the case for museums on college campuses). We love natural history and visit lots of such museums during our travels. This museum, housed in a large building with spacious galleries, was very impressive in some ways but disappointing in others.

The second floor held the most interest for us, with two excellent galleries. The Hall of the People of Oklahoma traces the presence of early native peoples of the region through more recent inhabitants. Whenever we travel from our home in southeastern PA to a new area of the country, we enjoy learning about the history and customs of the local Native Americans.

The Hall of Natural Wonders, showing OK’s extant animals in naturalistic settings, was very well-done. The exhibit displays the various regional flora & fauna that have speciated over generations in order to create a perfect habitat to support both predator & prey. Posted throughout the exhibits were interpretative placards providing additional information on both animals and plants; one could easily “page” through to read more about the specific items on display. As is the case for these types of museums, if one takes the time to check out such supplemental information, the exhibits are even more informative.

The first floor held the Hall of Ancient Life, with some captivating exhibits. The displays of (supposed) early life on our planet were creative and artistic in their design; however, they were essentially unscientific in nature (since descriptions of the condition and appearance of everything that long ago can only be speculation). There are numerous models of dinosaurs and other “prehistoric” creatures on display.

Also on the first floor was the Hall of World Cultures, which was a complete disappointment. We were expecting a large gallery but found only a small glass-case display. The large Brown Gallery adjacent to it—were we thought the exhibit might be—was closed up. The museum’s website hints at a good-sized collection but shows only a small area on its floor plan, so we remain mystified (although we asked at the front desk if we were missing something).

We spent almost two hours in all exploring the three main galleries here. We were planning to eat lunch at their café, but it is still “temporarily closed due to COVID”. There are tables & chairs just outside the museum entrance if one wishes to “brown-bag” it. I would rate this museum higher at TripAdvisor except for the closed café, the missing gallery, and the unsubstantiated assertions made about “ancient” life.

Gorgeous and informative museum

By IWantIceCream |

I already knew that Sam Noble Museum was award-winning, so I had high expectations. These were met. The exhibition spaces are beautiful and engaging, the museum docents are friendly and informative, and the gift shop is entirely appropriate. The architecture is beautiful, and it is a pleasure to walk around the space. The museum cafe is also a relaxing and affordable venue with daily specials available. The soup was excellent.

Great learning experience

By DeeDee1241 |

Adults and children LOVE this museum!
We take our grandchildren regularly because the exhibits change!! But ALL the kids have to take a photo lying on the floor under the huge mammoth's foot!!!

Cue the Jurassic park music

By Erika C |

I really enjoyed the museum all around. The geological history was great. It also had some very interesting skeletons from this area. But my favorite was probably the Galileo exhibit that was brought in. Truly amazing how old and well preserved the books were.

Great for kids & adults!

Perfect for the Dinosaur obsessed!

By NicoleSaige |

We decided to take a Saturday afternoon and take our dinosaur obsessed 3 year old. We didn’t have any expectations, but Sam Nobles really blew us away!! We had prepared our daughter that it might not be somewhere where she could really touch or do to much. We assumed it was just really stuff to look at. We were wrong! They had so many things she could touch, see, and do!! She was in shock over all the dinosaur stuff! My husband and I even couldn’t believe it!

Small but very nice museum

By Actiasluna13 |

Great for a kids afternoon out (whether you're a real kid or a grownup kid.) I left Norman before I got a chance to see the back of house at this museum, but the front of house displays are well thought out and informative. The good local area information is interesting and there are lots of things to see as you take a little walk through natural history. Recommended!

Still the Same Beloved Museum

By Abhi Nath |

In spite of the Coronavirus pandemic, I am happy to report that the Sam Noble is still the same museum that it always has been. Sure, there are a few minor differences: reduced hours, no discovery carts, no Discovery Room and also enforced social distancing practices. As part of these social distancing practices, the museum is requiring everyone to book tickets online in advance. However, the same rules for admission still apply in spite of the fact that people are required to book online tickets. Despite these differences, I am quite happy to report that the Sam Noble's staff and security is still as cordial as ever. Plus, there is a new temporary exhibit on life in the Permian which was pretty cool.

Fun Place

By lesleywr |

This is a great place to take the kids or grands, this museum is set to show children about animals, there are exhibits set with animals of all finds in their natural habitat. The dinosaur exhibit is very informational and fascinating for the kiddos and they all like to pose with the elephant, also there is a cooler with do not touch and of course they do and a rattlesnake sound is heard once they realize it is fake they like to watch other people jump, a really good day out, we took a picnic lunch and were able to eat outside on the tables provided.

Vacation

By Liz_1724 |

Thought there would be more dinosaurs, and the dinosaur dig area was pretty lame. Basically brushing sand around with paint brushes. Lots of reading and exhibits that seem more interesting for adults rather than children. Glad we checked it out, but probably won't be back anytime soon.

Impressive section Native Americans

By Bill T |

Did the whirlwind tour as part of a conference I was attending. It is a beautiful museum broken generally into two major sections, dinosaurs and living things. Both, while smaller than similar museums in New York and Chicago, are very well done. I focused most of my time on the second floor. I was impressed with all of the information and artifacts related to the native peoples who originated in and migrated through the region. The focus seemed to be on 12,000 years ago to the 19th century. There was also the requisite stuffed dead animals in that area as well. Again, a good regional representation of the wildlife, even if taxidermy kind of creeps me out. The first floor houses a nice complement of dinosaur skeletons, including a few I'd never seen before. All-in-all, it is worth the trip if you're in the area.

Amazing collection of dinosaur fossils ...

By Alexis K |

Also really nicely displayed. You walk through a recreation of each epoch. Very educational, but still colorful. No child (at heart) can fail to be captivated by the stories and displays!

Great place to visit.

By Carol S |

If you like history be sure to stop here and get an up close visit with a dinosaur. Kids and adults both will enjoy this museum.

A Must if in Oklahoma

By Al G |

If you are in Oklahoma, let alone Norman, this is a must see. On par with national museums. Located in the central part of the state just South of OKC, it's easy to get to.

Educational and informative. Changing exibits keep it interesting and updated. Great for kids, teenagers and adults.

Great Natural History Museum

By Daniel L |

Outstanding museum of Natural History. Opened in 2000 - everything spotless and well lighted - very well organized and clearly presented - would take days to see properly . - walked through a timeline of 4 billion years , with great exhibits and videos. Also had elaborate exhibit of Native American history - dont miss it

Great for Kids!! Not really soo much adults..

By Sherbon |

The Place is fun and they have many interactive displays and activities. I felt a little to old at 26 with my Girl Friend for most of it, but Its worth a check out and Norman offers other great museums. I would say its a place mostly for kids @ 15 years old and younger. Its clean and has a Wonderful Gift Shop! Good Price!

Great Museum for all ages

By KAY T |

The Sam Noble Museum of Natural History was better than I thought it would be. We loved visiting this place, its located near The University Of Oklahoma, and is fun for all ages. We will definitely visit again. The day we visited they were having a school field trip, there were many children running around but it was never noisy and crowded feeling. The staff is very friendly here.

Nice History

By Kevin D |

This museum displays alot of wonderful exhibits. The dinosaur exhibits are extremely nice and they have plenty to see. The place is small and doesn't take alot of time but is well worth the visit.

Good for afternoon of history

Enjoyed seeing the different animals and learning a bit of history. Would love to take my granddaughter there one day.

Natural History Haven spring break

By okietraveler2008 |

Took my ten year old son over spring break. He loved it. I loved it. It was a little busy, but not too bad. They had activities throughout the day for spring break.

Educational fun

By Ksks1234 |

My son and I have been here several times. He loves the dinosaur exhibit. He also thinks the different areas of Oklahoma exhibit is neat.
The place is inexpensive and great to visit on a hot Oklahoma day.

Fossil Love

By Bob-a-Link |

If you or your family loves dinosaurs or fossils, this is a great museum with outstanding skeletons and hundreds of fossils. The detail is exquisite. The gift shop was also quite nice with lots of variety and price ranges. The staff was very helpful both at the museum and at the gift shop. Parking was close and adequate. However, ahead of time, we were warned to avoid game days for a visit.

Awesome time!

By travelingmasterp |

We visited this museum yesterday with my mom and ten year old son before our tour of the National Weather Center. We live near D C. and have been to the Smithsonian numerous times. This museum ranked up there as one of our favorites, especially the dinosaur fossils. It was more hands on and interactive and the people who worked there were so nice. This was a great morning activirt.

Enjoyable outing!

By Kristen G |

The Sam Noble museum is a quality stop for friends, families and kids of all ages. There are a variety of types of activities and a small gift shop to purchase toys and educational items. It's close to the OU campus and easy to access from Highway 9.

Kids outing

By Mj R |

Sam Noble is a wonderful place. My husband and I even enjoyed the visit. The hands on for the kids was great. My granddaughters enjoyed it

Great museum!

By kevan j |

This is an excellent museum...especially for it's relatively small size. The exhibit on dinosaurs and fossils has a large variety of species and is laid out very nicely to tell a complete (and user-friendly) history of life on earth. They also claim to have on display a relatively large percentage of ACTUAL fossils. Their other exhibits are also well done, and they always have a special exhibit upstairs. They have a lot of hands-on stuff for the kiddies. The docents and other workers were very friendly and helpful when we were there. And don't miss the mastodon!

Love Sam Nobel

By Kristen W |

We've visited several times and have loved each visit. The exibits are put together very well and include hands on activities for the little ones. Its also a lovely location for receptions and parties.

Impressive museum!

By Elyssa M |

Our boys are in a HUGE dinosaur phase lately and we happened to read about this museum in a book we have - it mentioned a large apatosaurus and a pentaceratops that were a must see. We decided to make the trip down to Oklahoma and check it out. To be honest, I don’t really know what I expected because I personally had never heard of this natural history museum but to say I was impressed is an understatement! This museum was fantastic! We happened to go on a “family day” so they had many interactive activities for kids - a balloon man, craft stations, snow cones etc. but even if that had not been there, it still would have been a very nice experience. The kids were so impressed by the dinosaur skeletons. We started talking to a volunteer (I believe her name was Mary) who was SO knowledgeable (she had gone on some archeological digs and had many pictures to show our kids who are so interested in that right now) and she basically gave us a guided tour of the dinosaur area. There is an elevator to the second floor that takes you face to face with the apatosaurus skull - hard to describe but so neat! Is this museum worth the trip to OKC? It’s was a 5 hour drive for us and I would say that it was absolutely worth the drive! If your kids are dinosaur fanatics, this is a must-visit hidden gem! It is not a huge museum but we were there almost 3 hours.

a large fairly modern installation angled towards children

By Curtis S |

whenever I see a National History museum in any of the cities or towns that I visit, I try to make the effort to go. This large museum is situated on the campus of Oklahoma University. While it is primarily angled towards younger children, there are still some exhibits that adults would find interesting. The museum, like many, has a couple of permanent installations and a rotating cast of temporary exhibits. The permanent exhibits include fossils, including a couple of very large ones, of creatures that used to roam the face of Oklahoma way, way back in the day, as well as some of the typical flora and fauna that roam the Prairie today. Oklahoma was primarily an Indian land hundreds of years ago and the fossil record documents their life before it was interrupted by the white man. There is also some artwork and a few other exhibits. While certainly catering to small children, I don't think the exhibits are interesting enough to hold their attention for more than an hour. Recommended

Great Attention to Detail

By Donna |

We spent 2 hours in this interesting museum. The prehistoric displays were breath taking. Each creature was the focal point in their natural setting. The amazing thing is most of the animals were discovered in Oklahoma. The Native American section is very informative with great artifacts.

Educational for most ages

By Tina C |

Most ages will enjoy this museum. I am planning a field trip for my students this summer, so I hope things are as great as I remember from our past visit.

A very good state natural history museum

By Tweentrails |

For years the University and state of Oklahoma had a remarkable collection that was stored in what were little more than leaky storage sheds. Now the collection has an impressive and suitable home. The standout exhibit is the Hall of Ancient Life, which includes the largest ceratopsian ('horn face") skull ever found (along with the rest of the dinosaur), the largest Apatosaurus (formerly Brontosaurus) skeleton ever found, and a massive computer generated mural. Repeat visitors know to take one or both elevators to the top floor to watch as the glass panels rise up alongside the Apatosaurus's neck bones. The Hall of People of Oklahoma is noted for some of the recovered artifacts from infamously looted Spiro Mounds and for the painted prehistoric bison skull from the Cooper Site that represents one of the oldest works of art ever found in the Americas. The Hall of Natural Wonders is worth a look for its representations of the state's ecosystems--including a piece of prairie with two bison.

Fun place on a hot day

By Debra G |

Love visiting museum with granddaughter. She really likes going to the museum. Loves playing in the children's room. She never gets tired of seeing the dinosaurs.

Excellent Museum

By Michael W |

I have been to the Field Museum in Chicago, many Smithsonian institutions in DC, and other top museums across the country and San Noble truly holds its own. It really is an impressive museum. I've been many times and usually see quite a few foreign visitors and it's easy to see why they continue to come here.

Sam Noble Museum

By Sabrina P |

Really a cool place. Lots of interesting things to look at. A real piece of history. Take the family. You will love it.

I took my kids to this museum decades ago. Now I take my Grandchildren

By pepperwilliams |

I've been going to Sam Noble Museum since 1975, even before they moved to their new facility. It is remarkable to have this quality of museum in your own backyard. The dinosaur displays are remarkable with some of the specimen being largest specimens of their species. Many of the exhibits are interactive and give your children an opportunity explore the wonders of the age of dinosaurs.

Kids love the dinosaurs

By KeenSaber |

Always something to keep kids and grown ups interested. Excellent Native American exhibit. Temporary exhibits are usually pretty good too.

Great museum for kids and adults. Two floors showcasing Oklahoma culture and history. Dinosaurs included, as well as a dinovator (elevator)! I loved it.

Great Museum

By Ronald D |

A great natural history museum, with interesting permanent and temporary exhibitions. We took my brother's grandkids, young teens and even they loved it. Great place to spend an afternoon or a day.

Best for kids

By twnowak |

Interesting exhibits, especially those focusing on Oklahoma and native Americans. Definitely geared toward kids, however.

A must see in the Central OK area

By Eldon M |

This is an unbelievable museum. Being attached to a public institution, this is argueably one of the best natural history museums. You will see things here that no other place has. The dinosaur collection enough makes it worthwhile. There is a triceratops-like skeleton with an unbelievably huge skull, plus the world's largest Apatosaurus (Brontosaurus) skeleton ever unearthed. The Native American section is every bit as impressive. This is a must see! You won't be disappointed. Adults like the Native American and Sutton bird exhibits and the kids will go ape over the dinosaur portion.

Nice Way to Spend a Few Hours

By bcopper2018 |

This museum has a nice collection of regional fossils and focus on indigenous peoples. We have backgrounds in geology & engineering, so we really appreciated the museum’s focus. The building itself is quite impressive as well. It was well worth the entrance fee.

Saturday Afternoon Date

By HappyTreesforBob |

My husband and I went here for an afternoon date in the city and it was great! At only $8 entry fee, you get a lot of museum for a small price. Very educational and would be a great place to take children.

Overall, it is a wonderful place with plenty to see. You could easily lose 2 hours if you take the time to go through each exhibit closely. Definitely a must-see if you're in the area!

Outstanding

By Arlene C |

It was like going to a zoo with the animals in their natural environments. We could have spent several hours there but were on a tight schedule. Much improved from the first visit years ago. Everyone was friendly. Want to go back when we have more time.

Great place to explore on a hot day.

By Angie R |

We were trying to find something to do on a 105 degree day and this was my husband's idea. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed all of the natural history exhibits especially the fossils.

I came there before i am going back to Thailand. I am love this museum very much. I make me feel like i be there in the history.

Loved this museum

By Guadalupe A |

There a lot of real dinosaur bones. Many animal displays. We enjoyed the museum so much we stayed until closing.

A great place for all ages

By Gail W |

Plan on spending a long time at this Museum and visit often. Our visit included 4 generations. So much to see and it is displayed and maintained very well. In addition to the galleries which include dinosaurs to bugs, there is a room with hands on activities designed for children. They also often have special activities in the rotunda where the huge mammoth hangs out.

If you are looking for a special event venue this is a great place. My daughter's wedding and reception was here. It was well worth the cost. The support from the staff was over the top. They made things so easy for us I had a wonderful time. They even encourage the group of 6-10 year old boys to play in the open galleries and kept an eye on them. Make sure you call Nosh to cater your event.

SSW part of OU Campus

By John H |

Unique collection of artifacts from Oklahoma displayed with a realistic representation of the historical and ethnic diversity of Oklahoma. The Science Center in Oklahoma City is much bigger and better. The adjacent Zoo is real nice but, don't bother during the hot weather (above 85 degrees) the animals have survival instincts and they'll be hunkered down.

Great for the whole family!

By raynam2707 |

This museum is great for adults and children alike! It is stroller accessible and also has an elevator which is great when you have small children! The exhibits are remarkable and we got turned around looking at all the exhibits. The museum is at the University of Oklahoma and students and families enjoy the exhibits. Must see if you are in the area and the museum also holds classes and activities for children which are great.

Dinosaurs!

By staceylJ4000RX |

This is a wonderful museum full of dinosaur skeletons, hands on exhibits, and native American history. Very family friendly and interactive. Definitely worth a visit!

Wondergul Place to Visit

By Doug083 |

Took the whole family from 3 to 65 years old. Love the setup and how the exhibits flow, did not like having to pay extra for a video game exhibit but I guess they have to make money.

Fantastic museum

By Jola O |

We absolutely loved this museum. Interesting exhibits. I especially loved the dinosaur exhibit. It was fun to touch a bison hide. Also liked the native American exhibit and the animal displays. It is a fun place for the entire family. Something for everyone. Their gift shop has beautiful pieces. You can visit the gift shop without an admission fee.

A trip through time

Wow! What a neat museum of natural history tucked away in Norman Oklahoma. Great exhibits but the dinosaur skeletons is a must see for anyone and everyone just to compare human scale to the real thing.. Very educational and a fun family outting. One visit is not enough

Awesome exhibits with lots of educational information. Great for kids with hands on fun. Definitely with a visit when in Norman.

Love the Sam Noble (Dinosaur Museum)

By Claudia R |

My children now in high school have grown up with this museum and they have extremely fond memories of their experiences here. We participated in the discovery room programs when they were toddler and elementary school age. We visited at least once a month with our family pass. They never seemed to get tired of seeing the dinosaurs or playing in the Discovery Room. They loved participating in the summer explorer programs every summer until they were in middle school. We continue to purchase a family pass every year and make a point to visit the new exhibits. We are always impressed with the quality of the exhibits! This museum is an absolute treasure for the Norman community and Oklahoma families! The museum gift shop is also delightful . I have purchased many unique gifts for family and friends over the years.

Dinosaurs dinosaurs!

By JeffinNJ |

Extremely impressive displays, fresh appearance, and the absence of offensive evolutionary speculation make this one of the nicest, if not the best, natural history museums we've seen.

Kids Loved it!

By H2OU |

Took our 7 yr old & 2 yr old to this Museum for spring break...they loved the Dinosaur bones and hands on exhibits...very reasonable on admission...worth the drive to Norman

good afternoon activity for the kids

By jjeffers58 |

This place has some nice exhibits, though the Galileo exhibit was a bit of a let down, not much to see there. The kids like the dinosaurs and the interactive exhibits.

First rate display

By toolman2018 |

Much of the exhibit is displayed in a realistic setting with plants and creatures big and small. A gear family outing.

Fun and interactive

By Shan |

We had a great time and actually came up on Musuem on accident. I thought that it would be a normal Museum but there was a whole section where kids could walk through and touch everything and be completely Interactive. Totally recommend this for kids age 5 to 15.

Great dinosaur and cultural museum!

By Russell R |

A definite must visit if your are traveling through Norman. Great for kids and dinosaur lovers of all ages.

Wedding

By Leona H |

My son got married there. It was beautiful! They were very helpful and it was easy to get in and out. It is easy to find for people that were out of town. Been there with school groups too and it was wonderful. The people that work there are great with the kids.

Always fun

By SW3Taco |

A good place to drag the odd grandkid or two. During summer the air conditioning alone is worth the price of admission.

Daughter Loves this museum

By SoonerLegends |

Great place for kids and adults alike. Always interesting new exhibits. Fun place to go for special occasions such as weddings or business social functions too.

Great museum for the whole family!

By Aisha M |

It's a great size museum in Norman, Oklahoma. I went there with my niece to find research on evolution for a school paper. It's divided into two parts, the right side is about plants, animals, even large dinosaur skeletons. Then, the left hand side is all about Indians and how they migrated and their life styles. It's very thorough and easy to read descriptions for children (She is 8 and read all the descriptions to me.) they have a gift shop with fairly good prices for a museum and also the staff was very kind and eager to show you around. They have a really cool snake viewing right now and it's out by the Indian side, but a portion of it is not free, it just costs two additional dollars to enjoy. I would recommend this place for families!

Business Reception with a Bonus

By Auror08 |

Attended a business event here and got to tour the museum after the dining event.

There are some nice exhibits and some that are OK. I am sure it is geared more for children but it was enjoyable for an adult as well.

Wonderful & Informative

By ITravelAr0und |

The amount of information in this museum is truly amazing! The history of Oklahoma is explained as you walk through each area in well designed displays and also with the help of the staff who are very readily available.

There is a really cool hands on area for younger children where they can truly explore how the animals feel and they can dig for bones!

This is a well thought out and pieced together museum that is worth the visit.

It also has a large center area and side rooms that I believe would make a beautiful wedding spot with the large winding glass staircase.

A great stop if you live in the Norman, OK area but a must stop if you are just passing through.

Neat history place to see!

By 81carries |

Fun place to visit. Lots of interesting exhibits. Seeing the dinosaurs were really neat! They gave our school group a discount.

Natural history exhibits for the entire family

By CAK47 |

The Sam Noble Museum has something for everyone. Kids love the dinosaur exhibit. There is a good bird collection for those who love birds. Native American artifacts abound, and there are frequent seasonal or temporary exhibits. I like the exhibit showing the habitat and wildlife of Oklahoma's black mesa region. There have been wonderful exhibits of George M. Sutton's bird paintings. The setting is lovely, and there is a great museum shop. You can spend an hour or several hours and still come back for more. The museum is one of Oklahoma's treasures.

Great for 'Kids of All Ages"

SNOMNH offers a great educational and fun day for families with toddlers through teens. A day visit is great and the week-long Summer Explorers classes are even better.

good stop with the kids

By Gayly C |

I needed a place on a rainy morning to entertain the kids while others were finishing up camp. We enjoyed it over all, there was a gentleman who spent time showing kids some special exhibits and explaining them to them that I really appreciated.

Great Day at a Museum

By suncounselor |

We took our grand daughters here - ages five and nine and they really enjoyed it. The museum is pristine and all the displays are wonderful. They loved the Indian dancers performance that day, they had never seen dancers before. This is a great way to spend a couple of hours, just make sure you have time to go check out the grounds at the University of Oklahoma. Everything in that area is just beautiful.

Extraordinary experience with very infomative displays

By Carpe Diem |

Great and very inspiring experience. The museum is done very nicely and describes the life and history of Native Americans. It has also so many interactive displays that were a HUGE hit with the kids. We visited the museum on a weekday and in the early afternoon. There were a couple of school groups present but it was decently quiet for our family to explore. We were there specifically to see the animatronics Bug Squad exhibit which was a lot of fun. The displays are extremely informative and artistic. Beautiful museum.

Oklahoma natural history

By David M |

A very modern building with some interesting exhibits. The best was the exhibity on the indian tribes and their evalution in the area.

Superb museum with a serious highlight

By JS19772017 |

What a lovely and well stocked museum. We really enjoyed having the place to ourself as the Covid protocols allowed us to venture back safely to a museum for the first time in a year. The museum has an excellent collection of fossils with the Pentaceratops being an incredible highlight. It has to be seen to be believed, worth the trip alone.

Great place to spend a few hours

By frequent traveler |

Had a great time with the granddaughter, lots of things to see and do. Kinda pricey, plan on spending a few hours

nice small museum

By mirmirandronnie |

Okay--I'll start with the caveat that I am from a big city on the East Coast and am used to much larger and more complex museums. Sam Noble is nice but small. I would recommend if you have kids or if you are new to the area and would enjoy a quick primer on local ecology and natural history--but perhaps save it for a rainy or blistering hot day when you can't do much else. Check their website frequently for special events (such as movie screenings) and bring a student ID!

Always a good time

By drwatson32 |

We always enjoy our visits to this museum. They have great exhibits. The cafe closes too early, in my opinion.

Lackluster

By HopeGracePeace |

I was surprised honestly. People rave about this museum and I love learning, so I thought I would love it. The dinosaur exhibit was highly informative and well-done, that is for sure. But that's the best part (and honestly it felt like the only thing worth viewing). The two upstairs exhibits (Oklahoma habitats and Native Americans in Oklahoma) were very uninteresting. Full of information, but dryly presented. To someone interested in either of those topics, surely they would find it a trove of resources, but don't expect the exhibits to get you interested in either topic if you aren't already.
The facility is certainly quite beautiful, but it felt like a lot of wasted space. If you have a limited amount of time to spend, choose the Norman art museum or the museum of osteology instead.

A Walk Through Time

By Q5455ITdonnab |

It was a great place to visit and I really enjoyed it, as did my adult son. Good for any age group actually, with plenty to look at even if you're too young to read anything! Definitely an Oklahoma must see! The ONLY "issue" was an overly zealous campus parking enforcer who left us a note on the car saying "you can only park here if you're at the museum". Well we were, but there's no way of you knowing that now is there?

great place for afternoon visit! and it is free!!!!!

By jatgo123 |

we make a point of stopping by here when in the norman area. nice musuem, it is on the smaller size of musuems but it is packed with lots to see and do .

Wonderful History Museum, Lots to see!

By DebbieDebb22 |

This was one of the biggest museums I had ever been to. There was so much to see and learn about Oklahoma. This is a must see if you are in the area.

Excellent museum - nice way to spend a quiet afternoon

By Solidarity1 |

The museum is well-maintained and a great way to spend a couple hours. It is appropriate for children, though I was traveling on my own and found it compelling. The exhibit on native people in Oklahoma is fascinating and heart-breaking all at the same time. The artifacts are exceptional and the comparisons and explanation of the expatriation of native people to the territory of Oklahoma is done very well. There are numerous more "fun" exhibits, but this was my favorite. Currently, there is a traveling exhibit about Galileo's participation in a group dedicated to the exploration of the natural world, called the Academy of the Lynx. It was a good value and nice diversion while traveling on business.

Native Art Treasure

By Tall_Traveler_SC |

My family toured the museum during winter holiday so the facility was not crowded at all. Having lived my whole life far away from the midwest, I'd had no exposure to this art before. I connected with the tradition and loss expressed in the paintings displayed. There was a little kids' room if you're traveling with kids 8 and under so no worries there. The museum also had a deli/restaurant and decent gift shop. Great to visit on a cold winter's day!

Nice museum in Norman

By marcwX3905BM |

Very nice museum. Some fantastic dinosaur exhibits and who doesn’t like dinosaurs? Details the long and short history of Oklahoma and its people. Price is very reasonable and it was not too crowded.

By Tribex |

Well designed and managed museum. Great evolving exhibition as well as standards. Unexpected big city style in small town. Good value. Excellent events throughout the year.

Beautiful Museum That Any Age Would Love

By Okielady32 |

We took our nine year old nephew here recently, and he loved this place. The displays are fascinating, and the hands-on children's room even entertained me. There are lots of wonderful photo ops, too. I especially enjoyed the Native American displays, and my husband enjoyed the dioramas of Oklahoma wildlife. The prehistoric skeletons and fossils are fantastic. The gift shop had gifts for all ages, and many educational items for children. The admission price is real reasonable, and you can print out a coupon for a discount from the Oklahoma tourism web site. My only complaint is that the restaurant closed before the museum closed, and we were unable to purchase a snack and drink.

My kids love this place. So much history, and cool things to see. I was born and raised here in Norman, Oklahoma and I never get tired of visiting the Sam Noble Museum.

Wonderful find

By Rusl62 |

We were told about this museum that is located on the grounds of Oklahoma University when we were visiting the on campus National Weather service office. Amazing array of items that were unearthed mostly in Oklahoma. Very informative displays.

Earthquake exhibit not worthy of a visit

By Bj M |

We went late in the day because it t was the last day of the earthquake exhibit and we thought it might be interesting. This exhibit was very small and most of the stations either were out of service or just weren't working. We were thoroughly disappointed as were children trying to use the exhibits. The rest of the museum was good we have been there many times. Might want to do better pre-views of the exhibits to be installed and/ or make sure they are maintained for the duration of their service.🙁

On the campus of the University of Oklahoma, this wonderful museum gives a great account of the natural history connected to the region as well as a detailed exhibition of the native peoples of the state. The dinosaur reconstructions are phenomenal and there is also an area that our 15-month old daughter enjoyed. With a toddler, our time was more limited but if you are unencumbered, I would plan at least an hour to take in the whole facility. It would be worth your time.

Lots to do

By Nicolelynette |

This place is huge and very family friendly! They have a dinosaur exhibit, animal exhibit and lots of history! This is a must see if you are to come to Norman

Good informative hands on museum

By Sharon S |

Beautiful museum with lots of displays. Some of the best, if not the best, dinosaur displays that I have ever seen. They have a lot of hands on displays which keeps the younger ones engaged. Highly recommend. And when we went because my husband was a veteran, he and his party were admitted in the museum for FREE. After going through it, we would have gladly paid. Thanks Sam Noble Museum for honoring our veterans!

Fascinating Museum

By alexandrias231 |

I visited this museum with my sister who lives in the area. They offer free visits if you are a military veteran which I am. We spent 3 hours reading and looking at all the displays. The dinosaur exhibits were fascinating and we were told by one of the museum volunteers that the majority of exhibits were from archaeological digs in Oklahoma. The Native American exhibits were fascinating as they included items from around 12,000 years ago. Can't wait to visit the museum again!

Good Ole SNOMNH

By SuzanneJK |

I used to be a docent here. It has changed quite a bit. Very educational and has hands on areas or kids. I am also a member and some to see its various new exhibits. This time I brought grandkids to see "Be The Dinosaur"...for adults, the concept was great; kids need to know up front these arcades are not "games" that you rush through. I thought it was a perfect learning tool. Both grandkids liked being a carnivore, although they both picked herbivore first. I guess they liked the "chase"! Humans!!
They had been there before and spent some good remembering time in the Hall of Native Peoples:they particularly like the dugout canoe.
Had fun in the gift shop.

Fun and great learning opportunity for kids and adults!

By Debra-Lynne T |

We took our little ones to the museum primarily for their benefit but we loved it as much as they did! The exhibits were very well done and inspired awe. It is good every day but if you want to keep everyone engaged and happy on a rainy day, I could not recommend a better attraction.

Fantastic

By Penny F |

We loved this gem of a museum. So much to see and learn about. Easy flow around exhibits. From sharks to Dino's . Even a guiness book of world record dinosaur, the Pentaceratops. It's a great sight. On and on. Great time was had by all. Go and enjoy.

Excellent attraction for all ages.

By 852maggie |

This is a great especialy good on a wet day as all inside suits all ages from young kids with the dianasuars to adults who want to learn the American history ther realy is a lot in this museum. We went in June when it was very hot outside but the air con made it very cold in the museum so had to cut our time short and missed reading a lot! So do take a "cardy"" or cover your shoulders and arms this spoilt the experience for us far tooo cold! From this respect it was dissapointing as we left too soon, need to go back again!

Great Museum

By tedb548 |

If you have not seen the museum, you must next time you are in Norman. Great exhibits of animals and dinosaurs of Oklahoma.

Great for families with all ages of children!

By SunSister1 |

This is a very educational and fun place to visit, excellent! They have very interesting artwork, dinosaur skeletons, and a small discovery area inside for children. They have a very nice gift shop. It's a very clean open and beautiful place to see. I would recommend it.

A must see in Norman!

If you are visiting Norman, or in the area, you have to spend some time in the natural history museum. Great for people of all ages.... Yummy cafe and great gift shop!

Family adventure

By Ramona G |

Love the exhibits, staff were very knowledgeable, my family enjoyed it greatly! Make sure and use the elavator to go eye to eye with the dinosaur

Great Content and Sized Just Right. Not Overwhelming.

By Blackhawks81 |

This museum is great for all ages. You can get immersed as much as you want and the size is perfect. There is a lot to see and learn about but it is not too huge like some of the museums we have in Chicago. Dedicate at least three hours so you do the museum justice. The museum is very educational and it does a nice job of relating what was happening globally to what was taking place in the area that would become present-day Oklahoma.

Best Place to Spend a Couple of Hours in Norman OK

By Hungry_Dog |

This is a fascinating attraction. Easy to get to, no parking fee. Admission is very reasonable and military/retired are free or reduced. They have several exhibit rooms, each with its own theme. Staff is friendly and helpful, facilities, rest rooms, food, gift shop are all worth the visit.

A Must See if You Come to Norman

By John F |

The Sam Noble Museum of Natural history is a must see if you are in Norman Oklahoma or passing thru Norman. The museum is located on the south campus of the University of Oklahoma... just across the street from Barry Switzer's house. The museum is great for kids and for adults with all of the exhibits and the traveling gallery. The museum has a great discovery room for kid where they can dig up relics of the past. A ride on the elevator is a must since you come face to face with a dinosaur as you arrive on the second level. The small cafe has good sandwiches and is a good place to rest and get a cup of coffee. The museum is inexpensive so the experience is affordable.... Highly recommend this stop on your journey thru Norman, Amereica.

Great mix of exhibits and hands-on areas

By Jennifer M |

Great small dinosaur exhibit with hands-on areas...the Native American exhibit upstairs is excellent.

Very Surpise

By Jose Sanchez |

I went with my family on June 14,2016 and I was really surprise on how great are the exhibits. Recommend to anyone

Amazing dinosaur displays tied in to the archaeological dig corner of the kids discovery room.

By Coopertee |

Beautiful state of the art builing houses a variety of natural history wonders! And that is the beat to describe the experience for kids... It fills them with wonder.. The displays are larger than life and hands on. You won't get bored. my grandkids fave is riding the elevator to see the head of a two story dinosaur! Great place, we go again and again.

Nice place to take my grandson

By riokc1800 |

My 6 year old grandson loved the exhibits. He could have stayed there all day looking at the dinosaurs and playing in the activity room.

Kids loved it!

By Danielle F. |

My kids had a lot of fun here. The exhibits for the kids to walk through really made the experience even better. Lots of animal exhibits helped keep the kids engaged and interested.

Very enjoyable

By johnbD8728VI |

My wife and I took two great grandkids, ages 10 and 8, to the museum late morning on a Wednesday and had a great time. Kids enjoyed the little scavenger hunt (forms available when you enter) and really liked the dinosaur and Native American exhibits. The highlight for them was petting the pelts of various fur-bearing animals, and the highlight for us was the two docents who were so friendly and informative at that display. The museum was very bright and clean and overall it was a terrific experience.

Neat museum

By OklahomaMissy |

Took my granddaughters to visit, and they had a great time. Lots of guides in different places to answer any questions. There are some hands on exhibits, and they loved shopping in the gift shop before we left.

Great place for family!

By songbird7625 |

We spent hours here! It was very educational and full of surprises! Its a must see in Norman! You can visit their website for upcoming attractions. The dinosaur bone collections is amazing! This is our 3rd time and we plan to go back.

Fun and interesting

By JanCav |

We've gone when our boys were toddlers and they enjoyed it. We've recently went again (they are 6 & 9 now). Both of them had a blast. My husband and I enjoy the history.

Does only a few things, but does them very well

By Bruce A |

The museum is quite small. There are three major permanent exhibits: one on prehistoric life, one on Native Americans, and one on the wildlife of Oklahoma. There is also another hall that appears to be used for temporary, traveling exhibits. The entire museum can be done in just a few hours.

The prehistoric life section is excellent, and not far below major museums like the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. There is a dinosaur hall with an enormous Apatosaurus and Saurophaganax fighting each other, plus a Pentaceratops that holds a Guinness World Record. But there is also a ton of stuff about creatures that lived before the dinosaurs, during the Cambrian, Ordovician, Devonian, and Permian periods. Perhaps the biggest display belongs to the Carboniferous, when Oklahoma was a jungle with giant bugs and amphibians everywhere. Creatures that were discovered in Oklahoma are highlighted, especially in the Permian and Jurassic sections.

Don't sleep on the Native American section either. There are a bunch of artifacts from the Mississippian Culture, the same people who built mounds all over the central and southern USA a thousand years ago. Mississippian artifacts are just as beautiful and interesting as Mesoamerican artifacts, definitely check them out.

The docent hanging out in the dinosaur section while we were there (Nance) was excellent and was really talented at introducing scientific concepts about dinosaurs in a way that kids and non-scientists can understand.

Wonderful family experience!

By Nina |

Very neat place for my dinosaur obsessed 10 year old and even our toddler! The narwhal exhibit was interesting as well. Overall a nice experience.

Such interesting detail

By PPaycheck |

We especially liked the volunteers that share their knowledge of each room and take the time to let you participate in the learning. Allow plenty of time to view the exhibits; I'd say at least four hours.

Best Place in Norman

By Amber W |

I've lost count of the number of times I have been here over the years. It was one of my very first stops when I came to visit OU and now that I live here, I find myself drawn back time and time again.

There are new exhibits usually two to three times a year in two different locations, the rest of the exhibits are permanent. However, it seems like you will find something new every time.

The museum is very hands on and makes a great place for families.

If you are in Norman, you must come to this museum. You won't regret it.

Nice Museum

By lacyg1 |

This is a great museum and it would also be a great place for weddings, birthday parties and other special events.
My children love digging for fossils in the kid's play area. The gift shop is nice and full of unique and interesting gifts/souvenirs. There is also a cafe inside that serves snacks, sandwiches and drinks. You can enjoy them either inside or at the outdoor patio.
Nice place to enjoy with family.

Dinos towering over my head!

By Kimberly M |

This is the first natural history museum I have visited since I was a child and loved it! Just wish we had had more time to visit all the galleries.

We went on Memorial Day

By SarahC1023 |

We went on Memorial Day . The whole family got in free ,because my husband is a veteran. My kids really enjoyed the museum. It wasn't very busy when we were there . I think if it was busy it would have been kinda hard for my kids to have seen and done all the activities.

Night at the Museum

By meisharona007 |

My friends and I enjoyed the adult only evening at the Museum. They had trivia, a scavenger hunt, food, and painting.

It was a fun time, and the 3 hours of the program went by pretty quickly. If any time you see this Museum having another event like this, I recommend you try it, especially if it's for you.

By Dolliemaesgirl |

Fun for all ages great place on free days . Have gone also w/red hatters the art is spetacular ! Nice gift shop.

Inspired my kids. Geo cache!

By mykapone |

The staff is amazing! The exhibits are great. Kids love the dinosaurs. The museum even have a Guiness record dinosaur. We love going for special events, such as spring break or hands-on demo days. The Sutton Bird show was great over spring break. I believe there is a geo cache in the museum, too, if that's your thing. My daughter is inspired every time we go and can't wait to conduct her own experiments when we get home.
The cafe was a little lacking, but I think that was due to spring break. At least they had fruit. Can't wait to head back again.

Wonderful afternoon

By Nancy L |

I took my 5 and 8 year old grandchildren to the museum and we had a wonderful afternoon. It’s one of their favorite places to go. The exhibits are kid friendly, educational and change often enough that we never get tired of visiting. Highly recommend for adults and children alike.

Go on.....give it a visit!

By topgun1953 |

This is a great place on OU campus to visit and spend a couple of hours either with or without children.
Parking is extensive and the charge to get in inexpensive.
There are many exhibits on 2 floors that will interest all ages with numerous displays and facts that even us "old 'un's" didn't know.
The huge pre-historic full skeleton was just that .....HUGE! ....and as high as two floors.
Go on......give the place a visit.
You will learn something about our world and enjoy it at the same time.

Super fun and the kids didn't even realize they were learning!

By Appydoc |

Awesome place to take the entire family! Inexpensive, good times to be had while being educational. The traveling exhibits keep us coming back.

Wonderful Museum

By Susan B |

We go to Sam Noble every year, our now 10 year old grandson has always enjoyed this museum. We stared taking him here when he was a toddler and he still likes it to this day.

Great learning experience!

By Alisha E |

Love this place! Been awhile since I'd been here and loved the visit again! Movie nights and free Mondays are amazing for us not-so-rich people. Great place to teach your kids the beauty of the past of paleontology! Hands-on "gadgets" throughout the whole museum and the food in the cafe is so good! So glad they have this place!

Wonderful museum!

By Amy B |

We love the Sam Noble museum. The hall of ancient life with the huge dinosaur skeletons is always a favorite! This museum not only has beautiful and interesting permanent exhibits but also has some great exhibits that travel in. The Discovery room is fun for small children through school age with educational opportunities and many hands on activities. The hall of natural wonders is a definite must see especially for people with children! We come several times a year! We love the many special events hosted there!

this is such a nice museum, something you definitely shouldn't miss if you are in Norman. wonderful exhibits.

Interested in evolution of planets animals

By SamB29 |

you will find hear, very interesting display of animals that were here some 530 million years ago to present, presented in outstanding exhibits and native American artifacts. Not to be missed, visited twice this last week, docents available.

Excellent Trip Back in Time

By John H |

Enjoyed looking at the collection of fossils and seeing the realistic replica of the world's largest snake called "Titanoboa". The museum had this 48-foot long snake replica that they believe weighs an estimated 1 1/2 tons. Scientists believe the snake which is related to modern boa constrictors thrived in a hot tropical climate 60 million years ago, but that it when extinct at the same time as most of the other large dinosaurs. Many of the museum's docents were retired college professors and they were very glad to share with my group and answer are questions. This would be a great place for a school field trip on evolution and early Indian tribes of Oklahoma.

Wow!

By rachelanne4192 |

We grossly underestimated how much this museum had to offer. We went about an hour before closing, thinking we'd be able to skim it all and be on our way. That was not the case! We did end up skimming quite a bit because of our time frame, but there was so much more we wish we could have seen! The museum has many interactive experiences that make it interesting and exciting for all ages.

Great value, great collections

By Vhiratsuka |

Well worth the $8 entry fee. One thing that I liked in the Hall of Ancient Life was the "you are here" type of annotation on the globe, to determine where the current state of Oklahoma was located as the planet's continents were forming over the course of the Earth's history. The docents in the dinosaur area were especially helpful.

Great! First Class!

By dava5722 |

Spend an hour or two on a great adventure. Something for all ages and interest levels. Loved the focus on fossils found in Oklahoma! Brought the historic to life! Very well done.

By SarahZ |

This was a very impressive facility, especially for the price. They had large displays with specimens high and low, gorgeous hand painted backdrops behind the different exhibits, quite a bit about dinosaurs and Oklahoma cultures.
Definitely a good family stop, we had a two for one coupon which made it better, expect to spend 1 to 3 hours there.

Too cool!

By hoosierdaddy500 |

This place is great! If you really wanted to, you could probably breeze through everything in an hour + 1/2 or so, but where's the fun in that? I'd recommend spending at least 3 hrs so you can take your time and enjoy the exhibits, and read some of the cool facts. The staff is knowledgable too and can share interesting info with you. And save time for the gift shop. There are lots of dinosaur bone exhibits, more so than they let on. Me and my 4 year old love dinosaurs and were in heaven! The Native American exhibit is great too. Basically there is a lot to see here but not so much that it takes all day or that it overwhelms you. Which is perfect for a fun relaxing day.

Good museum!

By P J Avery |

Good variety of fossils found right here in Oklahoma and history of the first people to this area. Currently has the Guinness book of world record exhibit for the largest single dinosaur ever found.

Local favorite

Great place to visit, interactive exhibits. Rotating exhibits keep it fresh. Kids love the elevator and mammoth.

Worth a family pass

By S T |

We paid $35 for a family pass. It's a little far from my home, but worth the money. Also, the daily rates ate very reasonable as well.

Oklahoma had so many different types of dinos

By josephlupp |

Great place to see a child's eyes light up. You can almost see the wheels turning in their little heads when they are inspired by what they are learning.

Excellent History Museum

By Mooretulsahomes |

We could’ve spent days in this museum. So many great artifacts. Many are in drawers & not out on display, so it would take quite a while to sit there & study each exhibit, but very interesting! My son is starting his freshman year at the wonderful University of Oklahoma this fall, so I’m sure he and I will enjoy exploring this museum many times during the next four years!

Natural History

By M&MB |

Best option to see some dinosaur bones, and learn about natural history in the OKC metro area. Make sure you don't leave before checking out the hands-on discovery/learning center on the first floor.

Glad we got in for free

By Aadel B |

We were able to get in for free thanks to the Blue Star program for military families. The staff was friendly and available for questions. My husband and I didn't think there was enough to see for what they wanted for admission. We were not that impressed. The kids loved the dinosaurs but they were ready to go after that.

Great place to visit with any age

By RSpan2017 |

We love the Sam Noble and visit at least 4 times a year. We enjoy bringing out of town visitors and checking out the special exhibits. The dinosaur exhibits are our favorite but the animals upstairs and the kids learning room are also great. Great size for exploring while not being overwhelming.

Nice Family Afternoon

By okpat1 |

Excellent exhibits for adults and children. We have visited several times. Check out the various week long summer camps being offered for the children.

Great

By Dayla S |

Very interesting. Went with or 3.5 yr old and 6 month old. I only wish there were people around to talk with you about some of the dinosaur bones and other things.

Great place

By MIKE C |

This a a great place for kids and adults to learn paleontology and see a large assortment of dinosaur fossils. Worth the trip.

By Drew1870 |

We are an Aussie family, who was never meant to be passing through Oklahoma City. Having to stay over for a couple of days we set about finding something to do with Dinosaurs and rocks we found the museum to be huge, delightful and well presented. We spent hours going through the multiple floors. Everything was clean.
We recommend a visit when ever you are passing through.

Worth pulling off of Interstate 35

By DeltaDonH |

Been here many times with family. Excellent natural history museum. Nice collection of dinosaurs, early mammals and native American artifacts.

Excellent natural history museum!

By Drmkd |

Excellent museum! From the dinosaurs to the natural world to the early prehistoric archaeological materials and finally, historic Oklahoma Native American artifacts, all ages will find something interesting here. Many hands on exhibits for children.

Good place to take the kids for the afternoon

By Steve063 |

My wife and I went here because I like natural history museums. This is not the best I have seen but it is worth it to spend an afternoon. It is located on the OU campus and apparently run by the university. The store was a real disappointment. It had mostly tourist junk, and not much for improving you education in natural history.

Not too big but alot of info, and some really cool dinosaur bones

By michaelsI6065HV |

This is a nice museum for the whole family, there is a section for kids to learn things as well, but it's not so big that it takes forever. They really have a lot of information and nice displays, I've been there 3 times and they are always improving it.

Worth the trip

By Jeff F |

We spent a few hours at this museum and were very impressed. The exhibits are very interesting and organized. The staff is friendly and informative too!

Great exhibits and very little kid friendly with hands on activities. Strollers are available FCFS. Can make a really good 4 hours here but no more than 6 so can be done in a day trip.

Great museum

By Cyndi N |

We have been to this museum about 3 times. It has a lot of information about Oklahoma and the people and land. It is very interesting and well worth the visit!

Fun, Educational Visit

By rwatson579 |

We enjoyed our short visit to the Museum during a recent trip to Norman. It was educational and interactive enough to keep it interesting.

I would have enjoyed a more personalized guided tour though the museum staff positioned around the museum were kind and engaging enough to keep it interesting.

Highly educational!

By Trey G |

This is a superb museum. I was on a school trip with several sixth graders. This museum kept the kids highly engaged the whole time. The museum details the diversity of Oklahoma's past. From prehistoric times to modern, there is an exhibit on them all. My personal favorite is the Spiro Mound section and the artifacts there. The statue of the mammoth is also a sight to behold.
Located on the University of Oklahoma's campus in Norman, this is a must see museum.

Excellent

By allynnc |

The museum is top quality with many exhibits of prehistoric creatures, dinosaur bones, assembled dinosaur bones. It also has an extensive exhibit of American Indians.

Lots to See

By Michelle W |

This is the 3rd time we visited the OU campus and museum. My daughters request we tour it each time we come to the OKC area. Very informative and lots of hands on displays for the kids. You learn and see a lot of Oklahoma history natural science.

Night at the museum

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is a MUST SEE. The displays rotate and we learn new things every time we attend.

Science and Natives

By John T |

This was a really interesting museum for two primary audiences. The first was the dinosaur/animal crowd. This museum had exquisite and chilling exhibits that I can't really comment on since I don't know much about prehistoric life. However, it also has a hall for native peoples of Oklahoma, which stretches through the Mississippian, Historic, Removal and modern day periods. A fun place to take your kids.

Sam Noble Museum of Natural History has plenty to see by all ages and all backgrounds!

By Sheryl-the-artist |

Some of the highlights of our visits have included the wonderful dinosaur bone reconstructions, the beautiful large sculptures of mammoths and the bison, and the exquisite tableaux featuring many environmental features for animal and plant life. We have found that we can bring visitors there again and again over many years.

Always a great time!

By Brokenarrowhot1 |

My kids love going here! Love the different exhibits and I think it’s awesome that you can have weddings there!

One of the brightest stars in Oklahoma

By Ebazinam |

Located on the south side of the University of Oklahoma, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is a center of culture in the greater Oklahoma City area. It is on par with some of the finest Natural History Museums in the country. The staff of the museum are excellent and very enthusiatic abou their work. This is a fine place for couples and groups. Worth the afternoon visit on a cold day or hot afternoon.

Lots to See and Do for All Ages

By wendyquest |

Nestled on the OU (University of Oklahoma) campus, this museum is well-known for having the world's tallest dinosaur - a 40-foot long Sauroposeidon proteles poking out of the Orientation Area. Their many other dinosaur scenes throughout the "Hall of Ancient Life" are neat too especially the "Clash of the Titans". The "Natural Wonders" area features vignettes of stuffed animals with sounds. The bat cave was cool - use your phone's flashlight to see the bats hanging upside down. There's a large area dedicated to the Native Americans of Oklahoma which shows the progress from earliest times to today, their tools/costumes/etc. Two nicely recreated huts sit in the center of the area. Hidden in the back corner of the first floor is the Discovery Room with activities for the under-5 crowd, and along the wall are drawers of artifacts and the guides working there have additional activities and extensive knowledge on the museum. There's a dinosaur dig sand box, but I didn't see anyone use it.

At the time of my visit, they had two exhibits - the Ugly Bugs photo contest (which wasn't as exciting as all the hype) and the Great Balls of Fire (featuring lots of hands-on activities the kids enjoyed).

Tip: Be sure to ask the ticket people for a Scavenger Hunt guide before you start. You can get a prize in the Discovery Room at the end.

12 year old - Found lots to do; they have selfie spots in key areas as well
7 year old - Really enjoyed the Great Balls of Fire exhibit video games
3 year old - Was scared of the stuffed animal exhibits (and noises), but really enjoyed playing in the Discovery Room.

Well done YES

By Michelle B |

Great life size exhibits with many animals (not real). The museum is easy to move around and has elevator to the 2nd floor. Lots of hands on exhibits for kids. I loved it. I bought Rose Rocks in the gift shop.

This is a great educational place!

Kids have so much fun here! There are hands-on exhibits everywhere! And adults can learn a lot from the exhibits also! Lots to see in this great building.

Great Museum

By terrim40 |

Love the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. Fun for kids of all ages.
Our grandson is crazy about science and loves to go there. we have been there several times. There is an entire section on dinosaurs and another one on local Indian Tribe history.

Wonderful way to spend part of your day.

By SoozieW |

This is the best natural history museum I have ever visited. The exhibits are awesome. The facility is grand. You go from one level to the other in a glass elevator that gives you a great view of one of the huge dinosaurs. There is a small self serve type restaurant, with pretty good food. We didn't go in, but there is also a place for hands on that would be great for children. There were several large groups of children while we were there, but the place is plenty large enough that large groups won't bother you. It's a must see if you are in the area.

Educational

By Betty D |

This is a must to visit when in Norman and worth the drive if around the area. Very impressive. The displays are very well done, the animals etc. look real.

is very good, considering....

By Andrea M |

They do have some very nice exhibits. Maybe if I had been able to see them more instead of chasing my daughter - she was acting like she was adhd. It was ok priced--the price on the main review page says 5 but it is 8 for adults and yes under 5 was free--so not too badly priced. Every skeleton my daughter called a dinosaur, even if wasn't...I really liked the dinosaur skeletons if I had gotten to look at them longer. And the Oklahoma native stuff is very nice and your old enough to actually appreciate all of that. I loved the giant trilobites hanging from ceiling but was disappointed in some of the exhibits. The labelling of some things was not very good. and then sometimes the buttons didn't work on the exhibits...of course that could be from the insane kids that have to punch them a million times a second. The discovery area could have been really good. But of course have to be old enough to appreciate the stuff and not be insane and running around like a lot of the kids.

Nice Slice of Oklamhoma

By mon_calamari_architect |

It had some nice exhibits and it was very informative. They have some impressive skeletons of dinosaurs and other creatures. I enjoyed learning a bit more about Oklahoma's natural history and native cultures.

By Anna E |

This place is somewhere I have brought my children to multiple times. The exhibits are of a very high quality and very informative.
I really like that this place is interesting for all ages. It's an all around great museum for anyone to visit.

Beautiful museum inside and out

By Holly W |

This museum is on the OU campus. The grounds are beautiful and the museum is beautiful. Well maintained. We went to see the Peataceratop skull, which is the largest intact skull found to date in the world. And enjoyed many of their other dinosaur exhibits.

Don't miss this!

By John O |

There are several things to do in the Norman area, one place that shouldn't be missed is the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. I believe you should know as much as possible about the history of the world, but in addition we have a lot of history right here in Oklahoma, this area is rich in fossils from many different eras, and this museum does a beautiful job of showing them off, everybody loves dinosaurs! There are lots of things to see, not just dinosaurs, but a lot of the history of our native population, in addition they have rotating displays that change and offer a variety of things to see and do.

Fun for the whole family

Good time for the family! It’s small but very well done! Overlook annoying security as they stroll along, but be diligent with your kids. No outside food and drinks in the museum!

Incredible!!!

This museum is awesome! So many great exhibits!!! Be sure to take the elevator up to the second floor for an amazing view! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff!

San Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is one of kind. It is Educational for all ages and a fun place to visit. We visited with 4 children ages 4 through 9 and they all found it captivating.

Great university museum

By Lois A |

This is a great museum for an overview of the tremendous diversity found in Oklahoma. It is located on the far edge of the university, but is next door to the law school. A campus bus runs at least a few blocks from here, but not sure whether it comes directly to the museum.

Always a Treat-visit and events

By Coleyoleyo |

I have taken my kids several times and they love it. The rotating exhibits are almost always engaging and fun.
I have hosted events here as well. The staff is great and the space is really beautiful.
I will probably go back 20 more times.
It is good for a short or long trip. A first trip is about 3-4 hours, but after that, kids will want to come back to just hit the highlights and that will only take an hour or two.

Something For Everyone!

Keep your little ones close when you go in the door because there is a taxidermied Gorilla in a glass case to the right of the ticket desk and it may frighten them. There is a gift shop to the left which everyone will enjoy. The highlight of the first floor is the 40 foot Sauroposeidon proteles dinosaur.
The Hall of Natural Wonders has buffalo, rattlesnakes, and jackrabbits. There is a tree canopy above and sounds of animals and birds.
Because it's Oklahoma there are exhibits of Native American artifacts and dwellings which you can go in.
I've been several times and taken people of all ages. There are elevators if you don't want to take the stairs.

A Norman must visit

We are supporting members of this excellent community resource. Educational opportunities for all ages. Audubon Society also meets here on the second Thursday of the month during the fall and winter months. They also have a wonderful gift store which provides wonderful Christmas gifts for friends and family. Try it you'll like it.

Oklahoma and the World's History

I learned so much about the Native American tribes of the region, the original settlers, plant life, individual biomes of the area, and all the way back to Earth's geologic formations relative to the area. The dinosaur and fossil exhibits are informative/ interactive. The traveling Evolution exhibit reinforced the many biologic and genomic aspects of research. Well done!

Don't Allow Its Title(Natural History Museum)Keep You Away

Most likely my first choice for something to see probably would not have been the Sam Noble Ok. Museum except our son took us there and was I SO wrong. Talk about an modern/innovative Museum--this museum was a rewarding and unique experience. Here are the reasons: #1-very interactive but in unique ways & #2- exhibits are very well done and some of the dioramas are very realistic & #3-some of the exhibits were such that one can delve into the subject matter if so desired & #4-just by chance---we visited the Museum as a Native American Language Conference was taking place in the atrium area & we had the good experience of listening to several young Native American girls sing a song in their language. The Museum Store is filled with many unique items in many price ranges.

This is an outstanding museum and a wonderful place to take younger children. The exhibits are always up to date.

Dinosaurs!

By Redsal63 |

The University of Oklahoma has done an amazing job of displaying fascinating artifacts of natural history. They have a wonderful group of dinosaurs on display. Definitely take the elevator to the second floor to get up close to one of their biggest dinosaurs! When we went, their feature gallery was about Megalodon, the massive shark. Very well done. All ages would enjoy this museum!

Afternoon at the museum

I took the grandchildren to the Sam Noble Museum. They had a great time and so did I. So many interesting things to see there.

My 10 year old loved it!

By Dadoftheyear2016 |

Both my 9 year old girl and my 10 year old son loved the Dino video game projects. This museum is set up so that those who want to read a lot about each topic can, but those who want to look at scenes can get a lot out of that too. We were there for over an hour and kind of had to rush through part of the second floor due to our schedule. It's a good value. If we lived here we would definitely go several times per year.

Great family museum

My daughter and I love the events and Spikes club. Excellent exhibits and friendly people. We visit at least 4 times a year.

RAWR!

This museum is a gem in Norman. Nestled in the outer boundaries of the OU campus, it houses a fantastic display of various elements of Oklahoma life from the distant past to the current landscape. The dinosaur exhibit is really neat as well as the upstairs display diorama of life size wildlife that can be seen in the area. There are also wonderful exhibits of Native American artifacts. The museum is a great size - not too small, not so big that you're there for hours and hours. Be sure to take the classic picture of one or more of your party about to be "crushed" by the mammoth statue!

Excellent museum.

This museum has everything. I learned things about Oklahoma's history that I knew nothing about. The layout is a little confusing, but it is doable. Very nicely maintained with clean restrooms and gift shop.

Friendly-knowledgeable staff for an enjoyable visit

By Shaun8405 |

Every time my wife and I take our little ones here, we always find new sections of interest for everyone. The museum can definitely house/display more artifacts and pieces of interest since they have so much space! However, the wide open areas do feel nice. Staff there are always nice and very knowledgeable volunteers help make each visit a treat where you always learn something new.

Great fun for whole family

By Kat0118 |

My husband and I came here with our then 3 month old, brother and sister in law, their 3 year old boy and my mom. We all had a great time! I think once a year they do free admission with a library card and we luckily planned our outing there that day. We all had a great time getting out of the heat. The exhibits were all stroller accessible for me and there is an elevator that allows you to see out to one of the dinosaur bone exhibits which is fun for kids. They had crafts, story time, etc. while we were there. A very well kept museum. We all had a great time.

Great!

This is a great place to spend an afternoon. The girls loved loved loved the dinosaur bones and it is really well done. It is great! We would go again!

Good for the whole family

By Wayne H |

This is a well done museum of nature that has a lot of good information specific to the state of OK. Good for a couple of hours to half a day. Activities for children and several levels of information for those who want to dig deeper. (Sorry for the pun!) Lots of parking close by. Wheelchairs available to borrow for no cost. There are docents around to give you personal interaction if you want. They have a cafe and gift shop but we didn't try either of those so can't speak to their quality.
