Awesome views.

By William W |

This was an easy walk to the overlook and the wildlife was fun too. Good place to have a picnic too.

Spectacular view

By Colleen N |

As we were checking in to our lodging in Breckenridge, I asked what one thing in the area we shouldn't miss during our stay. Without hesitation, the young woman helping me responded "Sunset at Sapphire Point".

So, as sunset neared, off we went to Sapphire Point. From the parking lot, there's a short loop trail that leads to views across a lake and toward the mountains. As we wandered down the trail, we happened across a very small, intimate wedding just being finished at an overlook.

Continuing on the trail, we enjoyed really amazing views across the water to the mountains and the dramatic lighting often experienced during sunset. It was lovely and we'll likely return again for sunset tomorrow.

Absolutely beautiful

By Jennifer J |

All of Dillon Reservoir is beautiful but this particular point is exceptional. There is a gravel path way around the point that offers a quick jaunt for more perspective views. Or you can hop on the paved bike path and go either direction. It's all beautiful and you can easily see why people have weddings there. Easy to get to and worth the quick stop.

Beautiful view and fairly easy hike

By LMomG |

Easy drive up the mountain. Good parking area at trail head. I have some knee and back issues and the trail is not like walking at the mall, but it is possible. There is even a bench about half way. I walked to the first look out area and it is a great view. My husband completed the trail and more lovely views and picnic tables available. Would be a good lunch spot.

Scenic Views

By Traveler05577 |

This overlook has some of the most scenic views in this area, with a few hiking trails at/near this location as well. The large Dillon Reservoir, with the mountains as a backdrop, is a must see!

Easy hike for families with kids

By Luke O |

This is an easy loop hike with a lot of places to stop. We ventured up over the top of the hill and our kids had a lot of fun running around and playing up there. Yes, the lake is low due to the drought, but this is still a beautiful place surrounded by white capped mountains.

Perfect picnic spot

By Carl Gulley |

Stumbled on this place while looking for a great sunrise. Brought the family back and did a picnic lunch overlooking the lake. Easy for all (my daughter has a hip issue and did it with no problem) & absolutely breath-taking!

Pretty spot for a stop any time of year

By montanapescado |

This is a very nice spot to get out and snap a shot or go for a quick rock with very nice scenery. It can get mobbed at high times.

Gets better with every visit

By Doubledadoriginal |

It's a very special place to a lot of people. I proposed to my wife here. We've been back a couple of times and it gets better with every visit. It's truly a beautiful view from here during any season, morning, noon or night.

Great View of the Lake But Gets Crowded

By CC C |

Have stopped many times to enjoy the view and the short hiking trail available. It DOES get crowded especially during the peak summer months and the parking lot often is full. Best times to visit would normally be early morning or evening (especially to enjoy a great sunset view). The many chipmunks are always a draw for the young ones.

Easy walk with great views

By TJ |

This is a great place for beautiful views and is very accessible. The drive from Breckinridge is short and really easy. We stopped at the 7-11 on the way out of town to grab sunflower seeds for the chipmunks. There are at least 15 parking spots but they filled fast because someone was getting married at the overlook.

The trail is well maintained and fun for all ages. There are two main spots to stop and look over Lake Dillon and watch the chipmunks.

There is one restroom at the entrance of the trail.

Magnificent View

By J Dabster Etch |

We passed this overlook from keystone to breckenridge and we stopped , it had a little trail around the mountain with just stunning views . Take the time to stop and walk the short trail ... you will be rewarded :)

One of the best view

By Jeewan B |

One of the best view you can see around here , great to see in the moring with sun light hitting the mount top. Very beautiful

Sapphire Point Overlook

By sara s |

This is a great little hike for terrific views of Lake Dillon. You can just do the short hike to the overlook or do the 1 mile path around the trail. This is one of the easiest hikes in Summit Co since it’s flat. Great for all ages. Take your camera!!

Great hike for those with limited mobility

By andreabyrne7468 |

This is a good option for people with arthritis who can't walk far and those who have difficulty on uneven/rocky surfaces. The loop trail is mostly packed dirt and pea gravel; you do have to watch for rocks, but generally can avoid a lot of pressure on your ankles and knees. There is very little change in grade and there are a few benches along the route where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. We went mid-morning Monday and the crowd was light to moderate. Very enjoyable with lovely views of Lake Dillon, the mountains, aspens turning. Wish we could find more easy walks like this in the area.

This is a great road that gets you into Dillon without having to go through Frisco.

By smolander |

Nice curves. Great views up over Dillon Dam and lake. And a great way to get to Loveland Pass if heading east (and avoid the tunnel)

Scenic overlook with short trail

By fidgmom |

This is a great scenic overlook of Lake Dillon up to the Breckenridge area on one side and Lake Dillon towards Frisco on the other side. A Pretty level circular trail around Sapphire Point. The first time we visited in August 2019 to try and catch the sunset. We saw a couple of wild foxes when the sun went down. In October 2019 we returned the day after it snowed. The trail was still very walkable even though the snow was not cleared from the path. The path is rocky in a few places, but generally a level walk.

Stunning Accidental Find

By familyis4ever |

What a fantastic accidental find. On our drive to Breckenridge, we were rerouted due to a detour and came across the beautiful Sapphire Point Overlook. Good paved walkways, immediate views, but a chance to explore as well.

Inspiring

By Pat K |

A short walk from the parking lot. It is well worth the exercise. You are looking over the Dillon Reservoir to the town of Frisco and beyond. The views are breathtaking. So much so, it is a frequent stop for wedding parties and professional photographers (as we found out). In addition to the scenic views, you'll enjoy watching all the birds and chipmunks at the point. Parking is limited, but they change out quickly. There is a camp style restroom at the edge of the parking lot.

Low effort, high reward views

By NatParkLove |

Highly recommend visiting Sapphire Point Overlook when in the Breckenridge area. It was a short, easy drive up from town. We did this on a beautiful sunny Saturday in August around 9:30 AM and the parking lot was already very busy. It is a short, mostly level walk to the overlook (slightly uphill on the way back to the car). The overlook area itself is pretty small so best to take turns with other visitors getting the pictures you want. You can continue on to a longer hike past the overlook if you want as well. I also suggest continuing on past the overlook in your vehicle and driving Loveland Pass, at least up to the Continental Divide, for a beautiful drive.

Picture Perfect!

By Patheeka |

Overlooking the Dillon lake/reservoir and a good part of Frisco and the mountains behind is the Sapphire Point Overlook - supposedly the most strategic viewpoint in all of the areas surrounding the lake. If you start on the trail from the parking-lot, the viewpoint turns up at the first corner with the trail going further, circulating around the mountain, giving you a wonderful view all through. If you sit at the viewpoint, you can see the lake down under, the Highway 9 to the other end, the mighty mountains at the horizon and pine forest all around. It is very inspiring.

Short, Circular Path — Wonderful Views!

By CharlieinTexas |

15 minutes or so from Breckenridge and worth the drive. Just over a 1/2 mile stroll on a decent path. Go for the wonderful views of the lake and mountains.

Nice Overlook

By cm55323 |

Not much of a hike, more of a walk around the corner. Nice sunset spot/view, although the tall trees do block the views somewhat if you are trying to take photos.

Alvin, Theodore, Simon and so many more CHIPMUNKS!

By budbeerman |

Be sure to purchase sunflower seeds before heading up to this spectacular view of the lake. Chipmunks everywhere will eat out of your hands and stuff their cheeks full before running off. Take pictures with a beautiful backdrop of the lake. 1/2 mile hiking trail (easy) runs around the summit with picnic tables, manmade teepee's and more. watch the cyclists struggle up the mountain or fly at speeds exceeding 45mph down the winding road towards Breck or Dillon. average stay of an hour will satisfy most in the group. We witnessed a wedding at the point which added to our visit.

Memories

By Adventurequeen970 |

Sapphire point is such a beautiful place. It’s a bit overcrowded now, but I still love stoping and the short 2 minuet walk down to the overlook.

Stunning Sapphire Point Overlook

By kdev |

What a beautiful place to hike and enjoy the wildlife. We arrived later in the day but were still able to take in the plethora of chipmunks that emerged hoping we had shelled sunflower seeds. This could be a quick visit to see the chipmunks or a full day of hiking and water activities.

Great hike for the family, beautiful views

By MizCharli |

This is an easy hike and good for young children. It is a bit longer than 1/2 a mile, so if you need a longer walk, you can turn around and take it in the other direction. The trail is well marked with very little elevation gain and is a short drive outside of Frisco.

Think Sapphire!

By NF2013_13 |

We stopped here to do the hike o our way to Breckenridge. It was easy with a moderately easy elevation. Very well maintained and good parking area. We had our dog with us and they are welcome on this trail. The views at the top portion of the loop are lovely. What a pretty lake. Would definitely do this one again when we're in that area.

Amazing views of Lake Dillon Reservoir!

By Caley C |

Easy loop trail that gives you all views of Lake Dillon. It was very smoky the day we did the loop and can't wait to go back again when the air is clearer and you can see for miles.

Lovely walk

By Stephie H |

My husband and I were married here 17 years ago. It is still a beautiful easy hike even in the winter. Go on a clear day to enjoy the view. In the summer you can stop and have a picnic at the tables.

Short sweet hike

By DeVonne g |

This is a great vantage point of Lake Dillon. It is a short easy hike with great views. I suspect sunset from there would be amazing.

Perfect for a quick jaunt

By EO27 |

We were looking for a quick hike on our way to Keystone & this turned out to be a perfect fit. A heavy snowfall the previous day made it more ideal.

One of the Best Viewpoints in Summit County

By Bungymax |

Drive up Swann Mountain Rd to the parking area for Sapphire Point, get out of your car and walk down to a fabulous view overlooking Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountains. You can also hike/walk around the loop trail for even more vistas in a short distance (less than a mile). Be sure to bring some sunflower seeds to feed the chipmunks. and a camera. This is a great place for kids and visitors from lower elevations

Great outing for kids!

By Foreverett |

The views of Lake Dillon are stunning and my kids simply loved feeding the chipmunks! It was a short walk from the parking area to the rock/vista overlook, which is where all the friendly chipmunks are. Take photos of your kids with the chipmunks and stunning views in the background.

Star Gazing

By Mike M |

Close by, very convenient place to Star Gaze, night was clear and the stars, and satellites, were amazing. Only a couple of other cars pulled in, everyone respectful of the other visitors.

Very easy and quick with beautiful views

By Kim B |

The hike is very easy and quick. Along with the outstanding views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountains.

Things to do

By dktravels464 |

This is a must if you have kids!!! It’s an easy trail to walk and talk sun flower seeds so the kids can feed the chipmunks

Best view

By GinaHx |

Sunset view is a must! Easy walk from the parking lot and you can walk half mile more if you want to. Note-everyone brings sunflower seeds but there is a sign there specifically stating do not feed the chipmunks.

Breathtaking

By johanna k |

Stunning views, beautiful wildlife. Perfect spot for a wedding. We enjoyed nature while watching our daughter getting married to the love of her life.

Must do this hike! All levels can enjoy.

By mbloves |

Great leisurely hike around a lake (reservoir) with amazing views! We first tried to park at the bottom the ski lift and hike up (my GPS led us astray) and that was too steep for my sister who doesn’t walk/exercise much. So just make sure you park at the small lot off of Swan Mountain Rd. If you want the easy version.

Gorgeous

By akdurbin1987 |

Amazing views. Tons of chipmunks at the look out point. Kids were feeding them sunflower seeds. Sign says not to. Hiking trails and benches.

Limited Parking and Crowded

By mike s |

Due to its close proximity to Dillon, Frisco, and Breckenridge, this location is super busy and full of tourists that don’t understand how to interact with nature. Clearly marked signs telling people not to feed the animals yet people had crawled over Barrie’s and down rocky outcrops to feed chipmunks. Both dumb and dangerous as these are the people who will most likely need to be rescued at some point. There was also a group that trampled through the area where new trees had been planted. Yes, the views are impressive, but the crowds are a sizable distraction.

Awesome hike for our family!

By SasiCasi311 |

This was an easy "hike" with some awesome views. We had fun - the trail is a loop with quite a few overlooks. There are very friendly chipmunks along the trail that our little one and our teenager enjoyed feeding. It doesn't take long but you can take it at your leisure - we enjoyed it quite a bit. We had our toddler in a hiking backpack but honestly I think he could have probably done it walking by himself (he is athletic and coordinated for his age - 1.5 yo).

Chipmunks!!

By Kati B |

Be sure to stop and hang with the little critters! We didn’t have seeds so we fed them a chips trail mix. They weren’t as interested but they did come right up to our fingers to check it out. It was way cool! A must do (just as you’re rolling into Breck)

Beautiful Views!

By VLRK33 |

Perfect views of Lake Dillon as well as getting in a short hike. Great overlook area with chipmunks all around. The short hike around the mountain offers more views of the lake and surrounding area. Easy to find and well maintained.

Amazing Views!

By FellowTraveler793526 |

This lookout is well worth the 30-45 minutes it took to traverse the circular trail on this lookout. Virtually every few steps you have gorgeous views of Dillion Lake and the mountains that surrounded it. The trail is well maintained and easy to traverse for families with small children or older people who make have mobility issues. Do not pass up on this point! Wonderful scenic Colorado at its best!

Amazing Wedding Location

By ChristinaCordon |

We had our wedding ceremony here in early May of this year and even though it was still cold it was so worth it! The views are incredible and it was the perfect location for our small group of around 30 people.

One of the easier hikes.

By Barbara U |

This area is a loop that is pretty flat and easily walked while enjoying great views. If the altitude gives you problems with breathing, this hike is good because of it's relative flatness. We took sandwiches along and stopped at a picnic table along the path. There are benches to stop and regroup, too. Views are fantastic.

Beautiful vistas, inconsiderate visitors

By Theresa D |

The views of Lake Dillon and the mountains are spectacular! However, the visitors disobey every rule for walking in a National Forest. Posted signs remind visitors not to feed the wildlife--this includes chipmunks. Volunteers have labored to improve the trail in the past few years, but visitors climb over and around fences, causing erosion and degradation of the vegetation. Please stay on the trail to ensure your safety and save the nature on this trail! You can enjoy the chipmunks in their natural habitat without feeding them.

Great views

By Marc G |

Nice side trip with awesome views. Park and walk around the path in a big loop back to the car. Picnic tables available.

Nice stop and a short walk overlooking Lake Dillon

By FRANCIS P |

We decided to tak the 17 mile loop around Lake Dillon and this was one of our stops. Great views and a short little hike along the ledge back to the parking lot., You should do it.

Chipmunks and STUNNING views!

By Teresa D |

Take some peanuts with you to feed the chipmunks, then enjoy the short hike around the loop. The views are absolutely STUNNING!

Starting to come back

By Darrell L |

The pine trees have been removed due to beetles several years ago. The seedlings they planted are starting to grow. It's going to take time before it gets back to normal. The lake is also very low. Not much to look at.

Short, quick and crowded

By Patrick A |

It is a great view and a short hike. Loads of kids feeding chipmunks. But the view is worth stopping for before one goes for a decent hike.

Fun to look at the chipmunks and ground squirrels, but please don't feed them!

By AnnArborMiBob |

This overlook includes a loop trail around a hillock that provides interesting views of Lake Dillon. However, the main attraction is the myriad chipmunks and ground squirrels begging peanuts, popcorn, and whatever else tourists have that is consumable. I hate to sound like a killjoy, but feeding them is a really bad idea for all the reasons you've heard about. But I have to admit that when I'm hiking around the point, the draw of all those tiny mammals being bribed to pose for photos by kids (and big people) is magnetic, and I tend to stop guiltily and look myself.

Short hike and beautiful views

By GoPlaces789170 |

The very short hike is not as pretty as it used to be before the pine bark beetle devastated Summit County, but once you reach the lookout point, it's still breathtaking to look down on Lake Dillon and across the lake at the beautiful mountains in the backdrop. A great place to take little ones and a favorite spot for photos. We've even seen weddings taking place there! Be sure to take along sunflower seeds to feed the chipmunks (buy the unsalted variety). They will come and eat them out of your hands. Also, for bird watchers, this is a great place to see the Stellar's Jay -- much like a blue jay, but larger.

Nice Easy Hike for a beautiful day - rather spectacular views!

By pasowine |

This Overlook is just a few miles north of Breckenridge - easy to get to. The overlook has amazing views of Lake Dillon. There is a wonderful loop trail that the overlook is on. You can head left or right from the parking lot and you will come to the overlook shortly. Easy hike for people - saw families picnicking as well on the picnic tables at the eastern side of the loop trail.

Beautiful easy trail

By Heather WL |

Sapphire point is a gorgeous trail, easy and relatively flat, less than a mile around. There are some nice picnic spots and plenty of small wildlife and birds.

Glorious view!

By TravelPaddleNY |

Must make a stop at Sapphire point overlook! Has a short loop walk that is fantastic to take in the sights. It overlooks a gorgeous reservoir. Friendly short walk, not a long hike. One of the best views in the mountains!

We got married here!

By Poornima B |

It was a perfect day. Good Sun. No rain, no snow. The mountains behind had fresh snow. Made for perfect wedding pictures!

Great view, easy drive.

By gsx2016 |

Great views and an easier drive if you want the great views without crossing a continental divide.Traffic is reasonable and views are great.

Short walk, nice views

By nv24 |

Lovely views of the lake; keep in mind this is a very short walk and will not meet your needs for a "hike" if that is what you are looking for. Go early in the day to ensure parking is available.

Fun, easy hike with chipmunks

By travelingal31 |

My kids loved watching all the chipmunks. The view is beautiful and the hike is very short. It probably takes about 12 minutes at the most. It would be a great spot for a picnic lunch.

Nice loop

By shannonod3 |

This is a nice little hiking loop along swan mountain road just before you descend into Breck. The over look is a popular place for family photos. I often stop here and jog the loop to give the dogs some exercise

Nice overlook

By popedaddy |

This is a good shortcut between Breckenridge and Dillon (I70). Pretty overlook and drive. Lots of scenery.

Gorgeous!

By Dawn M |

A short loop walk perfect for all ages. The views are spectacular and there are benches and tables for picnicking.

Chimpmuncks and Photos

By Kristine W |

Great spot to get out of the car and see beautiful Vistas and get some great pictures. Mountains, lakes, and wildlife. Be sure to bring some treats for the chipmunks as they are everywhere you look. The trail is super easy and makes a loop that doesn't take more than 20 minutes to get around if you are walking slowly and about half way there are picnic tables.

Great view and easy hike

By Raechelann |

Highly recommend this little stop for great pics and a nicely manicured short hiking loop! Wonderful little gem. Highly recommended for a quick stop on a site seeing tour of the area.

Short hike, beautiful views

By BenThereToo |

The trail at Sapphire Point Overlook is a short loop that is well worth taking. The views of Dillon (Reservoir) Lake are beautiful. The lake is the largest body of water that I've seen (so far) in Colorado. ...and yes, the chipmunks at the main overlook are extremely friendly.

BEAUTIFUL

By FISHINGGAL |

Chose this for our family pictures. Beautiful. Water, mountains, trees. There was someone having a wedding, and we were told public grounds, but their photographer was a little ignorant, saying they had more of a right to be there than us. Didn’t appreciate that, since we paid for a photographer to take our family photos.

Chipmonk heaven

By richard s |

Excellent trail only 1/4 mile circles back to the parking lot. At start beautiful views of lake and children feeding chipmunks,

Worth the time

By scase |

This is a wonderful place to view the lake below. It’s a short hike to a scenic overlook and then you can continue on as it makes a loop. Beautiful views and an easy hike!

Easy hike with great views

By Lainiejoy |

Great hike with my 8 and 11 year old. Beautiful view. Parking lot had plenty of spots. Close to town.

Beautiful views, easy trail

By Rebecca T |

The short trail gives you views of Lake Dillon from many vantage points. There are picnic tables and camping spots. I was there in September, and it was very windy, but skies were blue and the trail wasn't too crowded.

Scenic view with great photo opp!

By twins2love2011 |

We stopped here with my family ands two age 6 girls. The parking was easy )though crowded). The drive up Swan Mountain Road to reach the point was pretty. There is a great photo spot. You can also feed dozens of tiny chipmunks (favorite is seedless sunflower seeds). There was plenty of shade and large rocks for testing. View was gorgeous without the work.

Warning that the bathroom is disgusting.

Walk all the way around!

By ColoradoTallman |

Too many people get out and walk to the signs. Walk all the way around! Maybe 3 blocks total but gives you a view all the way from Frisco to Dillon.

Amazing views from top of Dillon Lake!

By Love2travel |

Just a short drive from Breckenridge town, there is this short trail with incredible views!!! And the chipmunks steal the show taking food from your hands. You can finish the trail in less than 1/2 hour and drive all around Dillon lake to enjoy the views.

Great little family hike!

By ahimsa2u |

Amazing views of the lake below. Short loop hike. Tons of chipmunks that were eating sunflower seeds right out of people's hands!

So very pretty.

By sweetpea723 |

We were looking for things to do in Breckinridge that wasn’t skiing. This was a fun trail with beautiful views.

Short but worthwhile walk

By Debbie T |

Parking is an issue here but we got lucky. The hike is very short so people are usually coming and going. It’s definitely worth it, especially at the beginning of your Breckenridge stay while you are getting used to the altitude. The views are good and the trail is an excellent condition.

nice short hike

By TC5020 |

Easy to find TH and plenty of parking. very scenic views of Dillon Res from above. 30 minute hike with stops. good way to get acclimated on day one.

Terrific Overlook of Frisco and Dillon

By Christopher C |

About halfway down Hwy 9 toward Breckinridge, you can turn east towards Arapaho Basin and head up a steep hill that curves around the big lake in Frisco and Dillon .... Its not a long drive and there is a nice parking area at the top to walk around the point for beautiful views of the valley in almost every direction .... take sunflower seeds for the chipmunks and you and your kids will be entertained for hours !

Great views

By Kimberlyp |

Quick hike with great overlooks of DIllon Reservoir. You will definitely see comical and chubby chipmunks!

Absolutely beautiful place to take a short hike

By un2jc2 |

My husband and I discovered this short and beautiful trail near Dillon, Colorado, while vacationing in Silverthorne, Colorado. We were driving around the lake while geocaching and this trail had a couple of geocaches. The trail has beautiful scenery and is a very easy hike. There was actually a wedding going on at one point of this trail at a very beautiful overlook of the lake.

Amazing views- easy walk

By Rachael G |

Very easy walk with amazing views. My teens loved feeding nuts to all the chipmunks- there are lots of them that just walk up to you waiting for food.

By Papiomary |

Absolutely beautiful! Not a long or difficult 'hike' - you'll start in one place and end right back there! Well worth the time!

For Chipmunk Lovers Everywhere

By Debi J |

If you love chipmunks, this is THE place to visit. We just happened upon this place and didn't come prepared with a bag of sunflower seeds. So, we just picked up sunflower seeds off the ground (which were everywhere) and held out our hands. The chipmunks come right up to you and eat the seeds right out of your hand. I'm actually surprised they aren't fatter due to the amount of people there feeding them.
If you're not into feeding the chipmunks, there is an easy trail that goes in a circle and will take you no time to hike around it. My husband and daughter jogged the trail while we were there. The views of Lake Dillon are great from this spot and there's even a bathroom to use. This little excursion will only take an hour of your day.

Beautiful

By Dakotagirl777 |

It was raining when we were there but it was so pretty and an easy drive. Something that doesn't take much time or effort to get beautiful view

Must see!

By BeckB25 |

My family visited Sapphire Point last month. It was a short trail, which led to an overlook that was absolutely breathtaking! We even witnessed a marriage proposal while up there! My kids loved feeding the chipmunks both sunflower seeds and peanuts. It was a highlight of our trip, for sure! Definitely recommend a stop here!

Great views!

By Preyas S |

A nice and easy trail in Breckinridge region near I-70. Provided great views of Dillon reservoir! Went for a quick stop on the way from Breckinridge to Boulder.

Great

By Chaucer39 |

Perfect for small kids to loop the point. Bonus is the great views in all directions. You might want to feed the chipmunks --- we did not. Think this is easy and accessible

Stunning views!

By tjonch |

Our first visit to Breck, and this “hike” was highly recommended. It did not disappoint! We went on a Monday afternoon around 4pm, and there were very few people there. So peaceful. We took 2 laps of the short loop to enjoy it twice. This is a must-do and can be done in 30 minutes.

loved the chipmunks

By Tom T |

Nice scenery, loved watching the chipmunks and all of the fantastic views along the way. just the right length for an old man like me.

Gorgeous, not to be overlooked

By loribob67 |

This is so worth the drive, took the raod several tiems to Breckenridge. It's an easy place to walk/hike wioth older folks or children. The views are amazing.

Beautiful short walk

By Stephen S |

This is a great walk for kids or older people because its a mostly level, easy pathway. Our kids spent a good amount of time feeding (very friendly) chipmunks and exploring log shelters all over the park. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains from the pathway were outstanding.

Geat Hike for the view!

By Annette J. |

The trail goes around in a full circle so there is no back track. We saw Chimpmucks and a Squirel which they come up to you. Awesome photo to take...must go and see!

Easy, fun hike with beautiful overlook of Lake Dillon

By jcw85 |

Great easy hike and views are wonderful of Dillon and Frisco. Lots of chipmunks! Great for young and old. Lots and lots of weddings year round on the Overlook which is a short distance from the parking lot...be respectful!

Beautiful views

By CLK56 |

After a short walk, arrive at the Sapphire Point overlook. The scenery is beautiful, and the area can be set up for weddings or other occasions. Continue on the trail for more beautiful scenery, and a nice short (less than 1 mile) walk.

Must do if you are nearby

By Erna |

We parked at the Sapphire Point Trailhead and we were not disappointed! Despite the proximity to roads and the town of Frisco, you can enjoy a Canada-like panorama with mountains and lakes. I've never been to Canada but you've seen the pictures... And there were lots of chipmunks hopping around our feet! With a few photo stops and moments of reflection, it took us half an hour to complete the small circular trail. You could probably do it in 15-20 minutes without any problems. I can definitely recommend this stop!

Peaceful winter lookout

By 2lucky1 |

Best view of mountains was from the parking lot in winter. Recent snowfall made trail icy so be careful. Neat little walk with a few benches to sit if needed. Very peaceful area. The smell of pine trees was abundant here!

What a view!

By romanpiekosz |

This is so beautiful place. You can see the lake in a front of you. You can take a loop walk to see even more amazing things.
There are people feeding the chipmunks, so there is opportunity to take a nice shots of these lovely animals. They are not afraid of people.
I strongly recommend this overlook point.

Terrific Views with Little Effort

By MaryV754 |

This walk is a loop that is super easy and requires little effort for a maximum effect. The views of the Dillon Reservoir are terrific and it only takes a short time to complete it. We saw several families with really young children who were enjoying this trail. This trail would also be appropriate for those who are elderly or not up to a more strenuous hike. Definitely visit this place.

Best Pic of all time at Sapphire Point Overlook

By Tarek K |

We spent about 30 min trekking this place on an absolutely beautiful afternoon yesterday (3/15/2020). One of the most breathtaking views I’ve ever seen with the mix of sun, clouds, and snow on this early spring afternoon. The temperature was quite nice too near 55 F without much wind.

Feed the chipmunks!

Honestly, I don't know if we were supposed to do this, but everyone else was, so... (then they jumped off the cliff, and we joined them). We were just looking for a scenic spot to take my parents, who didn't want to have to walk far. This place was PERFECT for that, but when we checked it out, we also found many people bringing sunflower seeds to feed the chipmunks, so when we went back, we brought some of our own. It was awesome! They will come up and eat right out of your hand. They liked the unshelled vs. the shelled, by the way. This spot was not one for hikers, but it was great for anyone who wanted a lovely view and a little nature interaction close to Dillon or Frisco or Keystone or Breckenridge. (It's REALLLLY close to the first 3, by the way.)

Sunset! Go at Sunset!

By ctimms125 |

It was so beautiful EVERYWHERE on the overlook at sunset. We went several times and everywhere you look, it is BEAUTIFUL!! And go around the path twice to see the sun go down and the glow of the mountians until its dark. Tons of chipmunks!

Beautiful Vistas

By Jan W |

It was a nice little hike up to Sapphire Point that provided us with beautiful views of Dillon Reservoir and the surrounding mountains and towns. Very well worth it.

Worth the short drive AND ITS FREE!

By Brett R |

Stunning vista covered with chipmunks. Bring them a treat and they eat out of your hand. It’s a very easy walk from parking lot. Maybe 60 yards. 1 bathroom at the top. Enjoy!

Love the chipmunks

By C L |

We came to feed the chipmunks and brought a bag of sun flower seeds and they loved them ! There’s a group of giant rocks and chipmunks are everywhere just sit down in a rock and sit still and look at the lake and they will walk up to you and eat them out of your hands! Very cool recommend highly for a quick hour activity

Beautiful view

Beautiful view! Short .6 mile hike if you do the whole loop. Very easy to get to. Very easy terrain to walk, even in the snow. Try to go on a day when visibility is high. We went on a pretty windy and snowy day so it was difficult to see the peaks at times.

AMAZING!

By 1965Candace |

Extremely easy and short hike, however, the views are pretty spectacular. And if you have kids, they will LOVE the chipmunks everywhere. They will eat out of your hands (the chipmunks, not the kids! :) )

Great easy hike

By mountains345 |

Lovely views of Dillon Lake with a nice leveled trail. Spots to sit at the overlook but parking can be a challenge in the middle of the day.

Short and sweet

By expandyourhorizons10 |

Short, easy 0.6 mile loop with nice views, easy grade. Windy on the back side. Good for grandma and toddlers. Picnic tables to the right. Toilet.

Great short walk

By A Z |

This is a walk more than a hike as there really isn't much of an elevation change and the terrain is easy gravel all the way. It is a circular path around a hill. Starting from the parking lot, I'd suggest you go counterclockwise as you'll see the lake in front of you once you approach the last leg of the walk. Otherwise the lake is behind you if you go the other way. There are bathrooms at the trailhead and places to sit along the trail. Easy easy.

Easy and beautiful trail!

By Lisa K |

This was an impromtu stop for us and it was worth it! Fantastic views on the whole trail. You see Dillon Resevoir from most parts of the trail. The trail is easy to walk and relatively short. Parking can get crowded.

Amazing

By KnDDesMoines_IA |

We went here with my parents and our two young children. We went the long way around and it was an easy hike for all ages. The highlight of our vacation for my kids was feeding the chipmunks so be sure to bring nuts with you. The views are also amazing overlooking the lake. We went a second time and took the shorter route just to feed the chipmunks.

Beautiful views!

By Gretchen C |

This was a quick and easy hike with amazing views. The loop was about a half mile and there were multiple spots perfect for pictures! There was also an outhouse to use the restroom. I would definitely recommend pulling over and getting a few pictures! Bring a little snack or peanuts for The chipmunks. They were so cute and came right up to eat out of your hand!

Great Views from an Easily Accessible Trail

By ReadRibbet |

Sapphire Point is easily accessible from Swan Mountain Road with a pull off parking area near the trailhead. Facilities are available there as well. The trail has spectacular views with Lake Dillion and the mountains in the backdrop. The trail is easily negotiated with some resting areas with table along the way. We did the trail in both directions to enjoy the views each way. The friendly chipmunks add a bit of entertainment to the trail. No fee required.

Our Favorite Spot

By Stephie H |

My husband and I were married here almost 16 years ago. It is a beautiful sport for pictures and very popular year round for marriage ceremonies. It is an easy hike around and a good place to picnic in the summer.

All visitors and a ton of locals stop here for the view.

By Amy S |

This is a don’t miss view point overlooking Dillon Reservoir, also known as Lake Dillon. You might be lucky and see a part of a wedding or some other special moment. At the parking lot don’t forget to appreciate the road bikers as they puff to the apex of their ride around the lake. It’s all down hill in all directions! Watch for cyclists!

Quick stop

By Natasha K |

We made a quick stop here and we're very happy. The views are amazing and it's just lovely. We saw chipmunks and my son swears he saw a deer. The hike is quick and easy. Definitely a nice spot to check out.

Nice short trail with a beautiful views! This is a Very easy to walk for older people and pets. Cute little chipmunks 🐿 all over!

Wonderful stop off.

By mikki777 |

So beautiful. Well worth the stop. Free parking and restroom available. It's just a short walk over to a great overlook to see the lake below. Mountains surrounding are gorgeous. (Especially with snow.)

Nice and easy walk, great views

By Thomas K |

Nice and easy walk (we only went about 1.5 miles) with great views. We didn't walk very far only because we had a schedule to keep.

Easy and beautiful

By Babes |

Been here a few times in winter and summer. Both times are gorgeous. During the winter it gets hard to explore past the lookout due to all the snowfall. We actually weren't able to pass all the way around that time. During the summer though you can easily walk all the way around. It's super easy and not strenuous at all. Great to bring kids on. There are bathrooms right in the parking lot which are convenient. The parking does get a little tight during nice days
The view of the lake is gorgeous in both winter and summer. Well worth the drive in the cold and heat.

Great, Easy Hike!

By elchaco |

Great, short hike just minutes from Breckenridge. It's an easy, loop trail with some amazing views. You start in the parking lot and end in the parking lot. Don't miss out on this awesome, free activity for everyone!

Beautiful Views

We have been to this area on previous vacations and stopped here again because we loved this trail previously. This is an easy trail with parking and bathrooms . The views of the lake are gorgeous and make for awesome photos!

Sapphire Point Overlook offers beautiful views of Lake Dillon

By Chris W |

Sapphire Point Overlook offers beautiful views of Lake Dillon. Take Swan Mountain road up to the overlook, park and enjoy a short hike for amazing views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding 10 mile range. Swan Mountain road is a nice shortcut between Breckenridge and Keystone. It is well worth the drive. Don't forget to bring your camera you will want to capture the beauty of the 10 mile range, Lake Dillon, Keystone Ski restore and the Continental Divide. The view is breath taking no matter what direction you happen to be looking!

Easy hike with views

By wineanddine32 |

This is a perfect hike for kids and people just getting to altitude, as it is a level hike around a mountain top. The road up is very good and the parking is free, and has a restroom. The trail is good and offers great views of Lake Dillon and the mountains on the other side. We enjoyed the hike and the views, and have some great pictures.

Fun for all and free. Don't forget the camera, sunflower seeds & sunscreen. Can hike around the top on a dirt trail for amazing views.

Short walk

By Rita G |

Was a nice short walk thru the woods and overlooking the lake below. We are here just after the first snow, so there are areas to be careful. At the top of the road overpass on the way to Breckenridge.

Nice view... chipmunks steal the show

By pannam1 |

Nice view on a short loop trail which is accessible for strollers and perhaps wheel chairs... We came for the view but the chipmunk feeding frenzy stole the show as my kids were enamored with the cuddly wild things. Definitely worth the trip.

Beautiful View!

By meattothemax |

Just a short drive from Breckenridge takes you to Dillon Reservoir and the Sapphire Point Overlook. The short, easy trail leads to gorgeous views of the Ten Mile Range and the Continental Divide. There are lots of places for photo ops, so make sure to take your camera!

Easy Walk

By mtnwinegirl |

The whole loop is only a half mile - mostly flat. From the parking lot - the first stop is the overlook. You're not supposed to feed the chipmunks (ground squirrels) nuts - they will come right up to you, but everyone does. This is a very popular wedding spot - not unusual to happen upon a wedding in the summer. The halfway point on the walk is a panoramic view of Lake Dillon. Picnic tables, benches and even a TeePee await. The walk back to the parking lot is also very scenic.

Great first "hike" upon arriving in Colordo

By Diana B |

Such a pretty, fairly easy hike with pretty views. The chipmunks are clearly use to being fed by the visitors! Go up from the bathroom side clockwise.

Chipmunks are super friendly

By Jan D |

This was not the best trail to walk in the winter as it got slippery on the north side of the overlook. We enjoyed watching the chipmunks and did like the scenery.

Beautiful area

By ashstr |

We took a short hike and looked at the amazing views. Highlight of the day was feeding the chipmunks!! Take sunflower seeds!

Stunning

By K B |

Quick stop with my boys on our way out of Breckenridge. The views were stunning and the chipmunks were an added bonus.

Must Do For Families

By Kyle |

This is a quick 15-20 minute drive from Breck and well worth it! Parking can be a little tight. We were traveling with my two kids (4 & 1) and my wife who was in a wheelchair after breaking her ankle a few weeks before. The path is a very easy hike as most of it is compacted crushed granite. Walkers, wheelchairs, and strollers will do well here.

I would suggest taking sunflower seeds with you to feed the chipmunks. As you start the trail there will be a rock overlook 100-200 yards down on your left. Stop there and get ready to feed the chipmunks! It is such a fun experience. My four year old was in heaven and I have never seen him sit so still than when we was feeding the chipmunks out of his hands.

Great view

By Bernadette |

This is a relatively short stop unless you plan on hiking around. This must be a popular place for weddings, because there was a wedding there when we visited. If you're in the Breckenridge area you should definitely stop here, worth the short detour to experience the great views.

Be Sure to Visit

By Janet F |

Be sure to make this stop if you are in the area. The views are magnificent and ever changing, due to the beetle kill in the last few years. But, for every tree that falls or is taken down, the vista gets better, and it is just Mother Nature in action. A nice short walk will net you a view that takes your breath away.

Stunning views in all directions

By Richard N |

The actual point is a fantastic place to stop and take in the view. The trail ultimately leads to some picnic tables and even from another aspect the views are still stunning. Great place for an hour.

Stunning Scenery

By Ali c |

This point overlook looks out towards Frisco and Lake Dillon. The mountains and water are a great view. Super easy trail that is a big loop. Worth it to get acclimated to the altitude. Definitely add to your list of stops.

Easy path and beautiful

By Beachlady20142014 |

Great place to take photos, very scenic and comfortable walking. We saw a gorgeous blue bird and lots of chip munks.

Fabulous Views

By Dave B |

Easy walk for anyone, even those that struggle to walk. Views of the 10 Mile Range, Gore Range, and Dillon Resovoir. Popular place for photos and even weddings.

Very pretty views, short easy hike for all ages

By BabyBlueOwl |

Our family this hike last month - we were aged 20 to 75, and older hikers in decent shape could easily have done this. Almost no elevation gain and gorgeous views all along the way.

Beautiful quick walk

By Chantelle M |

Beautiful views and hike takes only about 15 minutes. Almost anyone can do this hike no big hills and vey short. Saw lots of chipmunks 🐿. Very dog friendly and drive to get there was all paved and very easy to get to.

Gorgeous View!

By BethPhilhower15 |

We took our son and nephew to the overlook and it was gorgeous. We wanted to see the view we had read about and also check out the chipmunks. We got to feed them and take a quick hike. Great ending to our busy afternoon.

fabulous!!

By Ann B |

easy drive from Breckenridge, lots of parking and hiking is available. Beautiful views. take the road off CO-9 and follow the loop back around to CO-9 in Frisco. Stop and get groceries here, Safeway is reasonable.

Chipmunk Mountain!

By MaryB |

Others may call it Sapphire Point, but in our family, it’s Chipmunk Mountain! A very short walk from the parking area brings you to a magnificent overlook of Lake Dillon. Bring your sunflower seeds and sit quietly, the golden ground squirrels will come and eat out of your hand. The chipmunks are somewhat shy, but patience will usually result in a close up chipmunk feeding encounter. Super fun for all ages!!
