Sarah's Crack (haha)

By goldfishcastle |

We had a great hike in Sarah's park. We hiked the crack to the water and then returned via an upper loop. There was some fun footwork through the crack and excellent views on the way back. Total distance was approximately 5 miles.

Fun little hike! Family and dog friendly.

By KimmyE |

I have lived in Lake Havasu for 13 years and this is one of my favorite little hikes! Once you get into the "Crack" you see the beauty of the red rocks. The walk to the crack is not very strenuous, just a lot of sand and some slight hills. You want to do this when it is cool, especially if you are not used to the Arizona heat or have kids or dogs with you. Once in the "crack" it is a little cooler. You will have to slide down one of the rocks and if you want to return that same way will have to get back up, make sure you have help! Otherwise if you take an alternate way out you will be walking up some seriously steep hills! This is a beautiful hike especially in the cool winter months. You can walk all the way down to the water. Make sure to bring necessities: water, hat, etc... Keep dogs on leash. Thouroughly enjoyable!

Numerous activities area, Great Opportunities to get out in nature

By thetravelers66 |

Great hiking area. Safe parking area. Also closer to town skateboarding, bmx track, aquatic center, great walking paths.

Take a hike

By steve s |

Good place to hike, seems to have plenty of parking. If interested in geologic strata stuff, you might see a variety of layering. Friendly people, have good footwear, take water.

Nice Park

By Kat654 |

Quiet with lots of places to explore. Great place to hold citywide events as there's lots of room to roam.

Worth the time, pretty cool crack in the wall...lake view just ahead!

By billionsandnocure |

Great workout!

Passing the slots (jumping & climbing) down the ladders (2 ladders) pretty easy for the agile hikers. If you are challenged with mobility I would not recommend going through the yellow trail marked slotted areas. Best to stay up high on the trail marked with blue markers.
After completing the slotted areas continue for approx. another mile or so until you can observe the lake.
Beautiful views! Well worth the energy & the time to make it to the water. The ducks were neat to watch as they attempted to fend off the seagulls as they tried to feed themselves. You will also see speedboats and such from the waters edge.

At the distance you will see a picnic bench (by the lake) as well as bathrooms...perfect spot to grab a bite.

*Points of Attention:
I recall reviews suggesting to return via the blue markers (on the upper trail looking down on the wash) I wish I had not! If it's hot, it's best to return via the "yellow marked trail" as it is MUCH cooler down below. At least 10 degrees (big deal when 1 is melting). It was not fun baking in the sun as we hustled the trail to try to get away from the direct sunlight.

Fun trail!

Sweet hike

By Derek S |

Been doing this hike for years and it never gets old. We love getting down to the crack and going through the rocks. When we first started doing this hike, my kids couldn't get up the rock slide and through the years they're able to get up it with ease. Just love it. Bring water if it's hot

Very cool hikes

By TommyFan |

This park has quite a bit to offer. We spent a morning hiking the Crack in the Mountain Trail. 5 miles round trip and totally worth it. We opted to hike out on a higher parallel trail and had a very close encounter with a Bighorn ewe and lamb. Best to hit this one early before temps and winds pick up.

Awesome hiking with gorgeous views!

By Back Road Ramblers |

We hiked through the Crack, which seems like the most popular hike in the park. The slot canyon was really fun to hike through, and while it did require some scrambling, it wasn't too difficult. After the canyon the trail meanders and finally reaches the lake, with stunning views of the turquoise water. It would be a fabulous spot to watch the sunset! While we hiked, my teenage son did some mountain biking - he said the trails were awesome, with a lot of variety. He saw two bighorn sheep while he was riding, but no other people. We saw lots of people on our hike, but we were nicely spread out.

Peacefully beautiful

By Teresa F |

This Saturday attending a Single Boomers group 5 mile hiking trip at Sara's Park! I have been here before to watch the fireworks at night with music and looking forward to my first group hike! There is so much more to enjoy at this park day & night.

Best hike

By JEAN MARC L |

Hiked the canyon Sara's crack to the lake. Hiked in the canyon down to the river and came back on the south trail. Trails are well marked and easy to follow. Bring water and start early. There is spot in the canyon where you have to drop about 6 feet. This could be a point to turnaround or proceed. You can hike back around this drop

Great hike

By Btoon |

We did a 5mile hike to Lake Havasu through Crack mountain. It was beautiful with stunning sceneries. We saw many lizards and a mountain goat. Make sure to bring plenty of water. Do not wander off the trail too much. We did and ended up hiking closer to 7 miles and had to climb multiple treacherous steep ridges.

Fun hike!

By Tallyhoing |

Be sure to ask for directions. Few signs and tons of burro trails to get lost on, but worth the hike. So fun. We saw bighorn sheep, stunning lake views and one of the most interesting hikes in a long time. Take your camera!

Lots to do

By David C |

There are many things to do there but the only one we did was a hike. It was a intermediate walk (about 4 mi) but thru some neat country and did see some wildlife. Crack-in-the-rock trail.

fireworks

By mikey881 |

We came to this park for the fireworks event. Had to get there early but still never got a seat. But the fireworks were amazing !!!

Very nice!

By Wyogunrunner |

Sweet park complex. We used the trailhead to hike Sarah’s crack and to go to the races. Very nice! Lots if parking at races. Vendors were good and the races fast paced. Sarah’s crack trail was moderately busy in January and very fun. Be a bit agile or take the bypass. Go swim in the lake and come back.

Great hiking

By Swimmom 92557 |

Very scenic. Good hiking trails. Can hike through small slot canyon and reach the Lake Havasu shoreline.

Great place take a hike!

By Paul J |

There are many places you can hike here. If you are and avid outdoor person...grab a water bottle and climb the hill!

Pretty neat park

By eeeeyo |

Lots of different activities offered, but not all at one time. Most interesting is the hike known locally as "Sara's Crack" which is a comfortable hike through some low hills and canyons and specifically through an actually crack in the mountain. Highly recommended!

Interesting Trails

By Bernadette B |

My husband and I brought our mountain bikes with us on our recent trip to Havasu. The owner of the rental told us about SARA park and once we got used to the trails (very different from Phoenix) we really liked it. Well laid out, but signage could be a little better! Use Trail Forks App to navigate.

Sara park

By mark r |

There is a lot of things available at Sara Park. Auto racing, Rodeo, and Little League. These are three of the things I know about that are available there. Each is well done and you cannot go wrong going if your choice of entertainment is going on that evening.

By Ann B |

If you don't have a GPS, stay on the Crack Trail which is well marked. We tried Keyhole: no trail marks for Keyhole at all! The trailmarkers there were for trails not on the map we printed off the website. We eventually did find markers for Pilot Rock and found the jeep road, only to end up scrambling at the end. The way back we got lost and ended up miles away from the car by the local gun range. Got a ride home from the range owner who told us this had happened before. We are pretty experienced hikers, but again I would not recommend trying Keyhole unless you have a GPS and/or are with someone who knows the trail well.

nice surprise

By David H |

Did the crack trail like most people. A great unplanned surprise for our 2 night 1 day stay at Lake Havasu. A rope and ladder was left at the 7 -8 ft drop, which made it easy for us to go and come back on the same trail. We didnt go all the way to the lake, but we like scrambling inside the slot more.

Hiker's Delight

By schmitzbetsy |

Great place for hikers of all ages and skills. Easy, medium and harder trails. Fantastic scenery. Just need good shoes and water.

Hiking, shooting, softball, dog park, RC cars, so much to do!

By Jan B |

Great place to enjoy beautiful Lake Havasu. Well managed Gun Club, dog park, softball, dirt racing track, all fun!

Big on area; Small on Attractions

By Charlie03045 |

This park has some real great events in the evening. But unless you leave home at 3pm in the afternoon, you won't get near them. One evening we went to see a digital fireworks display they had there. When we left the suite, it was about 5pm. When we got there, we couldn't get any where near the attraction. We ended up going back to our Resort. The park is big enough, but the area where they hold the events is small, and doesn't accommodate a crowd of people. There were people illegally parked on the sides of Route 95(toward Parker) totally outside the boundaries of the park trying to view the display. Not worth the effort unless you want to get there hours before the events.

Off leash

By Vince H |

I like this park and they have two separate off leash parks side by side one for the small dogs and one for the larger dogs . It is well kept and if you like Arizona scenery you will not be disappointed . If you love dogs and want to run yours this is a great dog park. The Rodeo grounds are also in this area as well as the race track and a baseball field. Walking trails are also in this area.

Beautiful...simply beautiful.

By abyssscuba |

Nice trails, well marked! Very scenic. Easy to tough trails. Bring water! Restrooms at parking area. 2 miles in and back. Longer to lake! Can make this easy or tough depends on trails

Trailheads are Here

By bverbos |

We visited this desert park because it has the trailhead for several popular hikes, including the popular Crack in the Mountain Trail (No, this does not refer to illicit drugs!).
The park is just south of town, has easy parking, and a bathroom at the trailhead.

Group Party at Sara Park

By BigL49 |

Our off road group held a large gathering at Sara Park. We had about 50 RV's and the same # of Jeeps. The facilities, albiet at bit expensive, accommodated all of us. We enjoyed our evening meals in the large building. Plenty of good level parking for our RV's and the location relative to where we were going we excellent

Spectacular

By 649carolinet |

We were looking for good hikes in the area and found Sara Park. The hike starts through a wash and continues toward the water with a more difficult trail scattered with rocks and boulders. We would have liked to continue through the crack which became more difficult, but it was getting dark and we had to turn back. We never had a chance to go back.

Hike a wash & crawl through rocks

By mre5we43 |

Sara Park just South of Lake Havasu City, AZ provides a very picturesque place to hike through a wash and in and out of rocks, including a couple of areas where a rope or ladder are provided for rappelling and/or climbing in and out. If you make it all the way through you are rewarded by reaching the Colorado River.

Our favorite place!

By Connosear |

Sara park is the best place. Take your dogs, a picnic. Watch dune buggies and golf carts go flying and enjoy! We love it here, for everyone.

Hike to the Crack!

By Arlene R |

As I am from Colorado, this was certainly a different hiking experience for me, but hiking through the crack was so much fun!

Granddaughter's Favorite Hike

By aandmrun |

There is a 3 hour hike that goes from the trailhead all the way to a beautiful hilltop lake view and halfway there, a challenging crack in the mountain that was fun to go through. The trail is well marked all the way.

Hiking adventure at its finest!

By ControlYourJourney |

Sara Park definitely has a lot to offer for all people. I hiked the crack trail and also went up to lizard peak. Both amazing and fun hikes! Being surrounded by the mountains and being in and overlooking the lake is so worth the trip here!! My favorite place in Havasu so far - and this was my first time hiking here!!

Take lots of water

By JewelsLHC |

If you plan on hiking to the lake the best time to go is in the winter or very early spring. Wear hiking boots or shoes. Take at least twice the amount of water you'd usually pack. If rain storms are brewing do not attempt to hike down to the lake; flash floods. Some of the hike/climb is dicey and is not for those in poor health.

Nice dog park and other things as well

By sleepowers |

This is a pretty big area. There's a dog park, a race track, a baseball field, and a regular park. My husband and his sister went a few months ago and her dog really liked the dog park. I understand there's a hiking trail as well.

Fantastic local shooting range.

By Kerisue D |

We joined the shooting range which is really a good deal. We have been several times and the range is well maintained and managed. We get emails and updates from the manager all the time. I highly recommend the gun range.

Beautiful hike!

By Rebecca J |

We hiked a combination of the yellow and blue trails out to the lake. It felt longer than the stated distance though it was probably because it was VERY hot. Following the yellow trail through the wash allowed for some much needed shade. One of the best parts was scrambling through the canyon or the 'crack' which took a little finesse. The hike ended at the lake at which point we celebrated reaching water and immediately jumped in! What a wonderful relief after such a hot hike. Hiking back we took the blue trail around the foothills hoping to find shade on the other side. Despite it being late in the day, shade was still minimal. Beautiful hike though I would recommend hiking on a cooler day and definitely bring TONS of water! Without it we would have been hurting. Sometimes, the trail was difficult to find. We used an app on our phone to help us make sure we didn't get lost and it was very helpful, especially on our way back trying to find the trail head and our car. I would go back next time I'm in the area. :)

Exciting and Fun!

By SSki111 |

We went on a hike and it started out really easy and progressively got harder until we were in a slot canyon that was absolutely wonderful! We hiked all the way to the river...what a beautiful site! I would suggest thus hike to all.

Great Hiking!

By annieplanas |

Love to hike this area...have not made too many of the wonderful hike paths yet but plan on getting out more during the winter and spring - now that we love here. Picturesque views. Lots of activities through the year.

Sensational landscape but very, very hazardous. Be warned.

By WelbyTraveller |

Sara Park is just to the south of Lake Havasu City off the 95. If you head south make a right at the first light after Basha's on the left. There's a parking lot with restrooms. The rocks and landscape are sensational with a craggy series of hills to the west.

There is a sign with a map of the Park with numbered trails but as soon becomes apparent is almost impossible to relate this to the land as you hike. The contours are almost impossible to see and there are no maps to take with you.

The main trail heads down the wash to the Crack (Narrows). The trail here is easy but the Crack should not be considered if you have any mobility issues at all. There are several very tight squeezes down very small gaps and some sliding down rocks and boulders, all highly polished by previous hikers' backsides. Any one of these could break an ankle or leg. Along the way there is a knotted nylon rope to help you down one sheer drop of about 8-9 feet and also an aluminium ladder with a broken rung replaced with a stick at another. This in wedged in swings round with a person on it. The Crack is filled with gravel wash and this changes radically after any flooding.

So far, so good (assuming your legs and ankles are still intact). By now you'll have realized that none of the trails is properly marked. Occasional posts appear but none feature arrows or names. However, the wash is the wash and you can't get lost. The problems start at the west end of the Crack. As you emerge the next challenge is where to go next in order to loop back. Trails appear on the hill slopes to the right but once you get up there the dangerous and irresponsibly badly maintained nature of this park becomes apparent. Trail markers are even more sporadic and usually located at intersections where various trails ad spurs lead off. None is identified and none of the trails is properly maintained. The posts just state 'trail' and give no clue to which of the various paths is meant or where they lead. It is hopelessly confusing. Although we headed in the correct compass direction for the parking lot it became apparent we were slowly heading up to the peak on an increasingly hazardous trail. Loose rocks are a serious trip risk everywhere and the peaks and troughs on the trails make a fall a real possibility. Once near the top the trail simply gave out though presumably it re-emerged somewhere to go down the other side. We could not take the risk. We had to retrace our steps and make our way all the way back through the Crack to be sure of getting back to our car. Our 1-hour hike turned into 2.5 hours and left us so shattered we spent the rest of the day at the hotel.

We are experienced hikers and have visited National Parks and State Parks across the US on numerous occasions over the last 20 years. We take care and we take precautions. But I have no hesitation in saying that this turned into one of the most dangerous hikes we have ever undertaken, and that this park is exceptionally badly maintained. We had plenty of water and snacks but as the early morning coolness gave way to 100+ we became increasingly anxious as we tried to find our way back. Only a few days ago we walked a 3.5 mile trail in Chiricahua National Park through a canyon and hills. It was far better maintained, safer, and properly marked despite the landscape being rather more extreme.

If you visit this park and want a simple hike go to the Crack and back. You will probably live to tell the tale. If you want to try the loops or go up to the picnic place at the top then a) take GPS, or failing that b) print out a satellite image of the park with visible trails and take that. Ideally though do not consider coming here without someone who knows the park intimately. Sara Park might be on the edge of LHC but it is a genuinely dangerous place, compounded by the miserable lack of proper signposting. It also gets very, very hot here. It is not for the faint-hearted and could lead to serious injury or worse. I would also not recommend taking small children beyond the Crack.

The rocks and views are magnificent so for that I'm glad we went there. In fact it was our second visit, On our first, six months ago, we were guided by people who knew the park but on our return this time it was simply impossible to identify which one of the numerous straggling, unlabelled, trails would get us back. A salutary experience we will not be repeating.

The best organized and run show in my experience.

By maryhP9968CK |

I have come to the annual winter blast pyrotechnic show for the past seven years. Although it rained this year the people running this event stepped up and provided their usual professionalism in seeing that everyone was having a good time. Not only the people who normally work for park but the volunteers were great. If you love fireworks and have a RV come join the fun...you won't be disappointed!

Great place to go hiking

By flowerdocs |

This is a large park on the south end of Lake Havasu City. We went for the hiking. There are myraid trails here, from rugged mountain climbing to more leisurely hikes. We hiked from the parking lot to the Crack (our son kept going through the crack). This park is pretty heavily used, but everyone is friendly and there are plenty of trails for everyone to use and not feel crowded. Descriptions of the trails are on line and in the local visitor's center. The trails are not always well marked but since there aren't trees and such to obstruct views, it is hard to get terribly lost. I thought that not having vegetation would make for a boring hike, but the rock formations are gorgeous and unusual. The Crack is impressive, a narrow path through towering rock formations. definitely worth seeing. One down side is that you do share some trails with mountain bikes, which makes it a little exciting at times. Also lots of folks with dogs. Still, didn't see much for dog waste on the paths, so maybe the owners are good at keeping things picked up. Definitely worth exploring; can hike up into the mountains and down to the water.

Something for most people

By Richard Z |

Everything from a gun range, batting cage, ball fields, hiking, model plane flying and more. Well maintained by the county. Easy access from highway.

Sara's crack hike

By bruce604 |

Great hike, thru Sara's crack and down to the lake. About a 5 mile round trip. There are tons of trails also if you don't want to traverse the crack, you can hike up and around it.
Big Horn sheep are up in the cliffs to view too.

Great hiking

By Marilyn M |

One of my favorite spots in Lake Havasu to hike and enjoy the outdoors. The different trails are clearly marked and there is so much to see.

Hikeing

By Barbara A |

Great hiking in different areas, dog park, ball field, RC airfield. Good parking, Rodeo area. Nice to visit

Vacation

By WSS |

We stopped at the park on a whim and drove through it first. We went back through and stopped and decided to hike some of the trails. The scenery is beautiful. Next time we will go more prepared with backpacks with water, etc and a map of the trails which is available at the visitor center.

Great skeet venue with fine views...

By JC E |

We went see the Balloon fest and found that Sara park offered numerous shooting venues including skeet 5-stand and trap. We shot skeet at the one dedicated skeet field.
The views are excellent, targets pretty consistent and great people. They utilize the Bob Schultz system. Member prices are $5 per round. Highly recommended,,,

Lots to see and do

By Paula M |

There is some good hiking around here, together with other activities of interest to many travellers.

Hike "The Crack"

By m5205 |

We had an excellent time with the 50+ year old wives hiking down this trail to a bay of Lake Havasu where we went swimming before hiking back up. It was challenging for the ladies who needed assistance climbing 7 ft rock face in order to get back up the trail. Big fun. Take lots of water as it is 2.5 mi. in each direction. 100+ degrees.

Just never ends

By Allison H |

If you like hiking, biking or just a quick walk in the desert, you can't go wong here. Trails are easy to find, and after hiking here for 3 years, we are still finding new places to go. And keep an eye out for the bighorn sheep!

Great Venue for a large group event!

By Dale B |

We were at Sara Park for 9 days in a motorhome with a group of about 90 other motorhomes, Sara Park could easily have accommodated 150 or more. There are clean shower and bathrooms, a huge pavilion available for our use with tables and chairs for more than 200. There are also water hydrants strategically placed around the park, and waste water dump station available.

Get your walking shoes on

By Lin J |

Sara park is medium difficulty. I would recommend wearing hiking shoes or boots. Take lots of water as the park is in the desert. We was walking sticks while hiking through the park. We hiked through serious crack and on down to the river. We bring a snack or a picnic lunch and have it down by the river.

Trails poorly marked; and beware of "The Crack"!

By goodeye67 |

The scenery here is nice, and there are many trails. However, the trails are poorly marked. We got lost 2 or 3 times on the way back to our car, and had to ask local hikers for directions. We took the hike through the slot canyon known as "The Crack". Before going to Sara Park, we had stopped at the Visitor Center in Lake Havasu, where we were given a sheet with a map and description of the hike through The Crack. The description said that the "drops" in the slot canyon could all be "readily negotiated" except for one 7-foot drop that you had to slide down. The 7-foot drop was one of the first ones we encountered in the canyon, and there was a rope you could hold onto as you slid down -- it wasn't too bad, so we figured if this was the worst "drop", we could easily handle the others that were supposed to be "readily negotiable". WRONG!! Two of the later "drops" would not be readily negotiable unless you were Spiderman. We really did not feel at all safe going through them, but we had no choice -- we couldn't turn around and go back up that 7-foot slide, so the only way out of the canyon was forward. My hiking partner injured his tailbone going through one of the drops, and we never would have gotten through the other one if we hadn't had help from a young athletic woman who offered to go through first and then help us get down. (We are both 67 years old, but we do hike a lot.) I feel that the Visitor Center should give people a better warning about what they are getting into when they attempt to hike through The Crack.

Great Hike

By Wendy G |

My husband and I hiked the Yellow trail (Sara's Crack!). It was a challenge going through the crack (slot canyon). Several difficult rock scrambles, including a stone slide with rope, a ladder and a plank. We really enjoyed it- but decided that we didn't know if we'd be able to come back on the yellow- which would include going up the rock slide using the rope- rather than down.
So we connected to the Blue Trail- which is not clearly marked- which was easier- no rock scrambles, but also more ups and downs and hotter- as it was all in the sun and on the ridge.

Hike to Crack in the Wall

By Larry L |

A bit strenuous, but nice views from the side of the mountain and down through the rocks. The trail markings are good, but some were easy to miss, as we wanted to return without climbing up the smooth rocks of the wash. Took a while to find the alternate route up and around.

The Crack in the Rock was great!

By Mountainsteve |

Enjoyed the hike on the yellow trail to the Crack in the Rock. Narrow and fun slot canyon but still accessible to most adventure seekers. After the slot canyon the hike to the lake was okay. Dip in the lake felt really great on a hot day in the desert. Came back on the blue trail and I would not recommend this on a hot day. Completely exposed and a lot of climbing. Much easier to follow yellow trail back up thru the slot canyon to the parking area.

Excellent dog park at Sara Park

By Kathy M |

With three dogs, the dog park was our main focus, despite all of the other activities available. There is ample parking, and the area itself is huge, with large dogs on one side and small on the other. This provides a safe feeling for small dog owners. They have some grassy areas which of course turn yellow in the summer, but at that point they have small swimming pools for the dogs to cool off. There is water to drink and bags for pickup. Each side has a reasonably long walking path around the perimeter for exercise. There is no shade so that cuts down on the activity in the summer. Overall this was a very suitable place for us, with two large dogs, and one small.

great for hiking

By BendTraveler7 |

Across from the park there is a popular hiking path that has several routes to the lake. Stop at the visitor's center and buy a packet of different hikes drawn by locals. Sara's crack, or crack in the mountain is definately worth seeing.

Hiking at SARA park is good but could be better marked.

By kengba4 |

A myriad of trails criss-cross the area and we weren't sure we were on the right one. We had a map purchased at the Visitor's Center that wasn't very helpful. Look at the map on the kiosk before you leave.

Hike to the Crack in the Wall

By traveloften028 |

Sara park has a lot of things to do but we went there primarily to hike to "Sara's Crack" which is a unique rock formation. There is set of hills to cross before you reach Lake Havasu and if you pick the "yellow" trail you go through a very narrow "crack" in the wall which is actually a type of wash. Very cool and nifty views. The hike isn't difficult unless you have trouble with the rocks. Good solid hiking shoes are a must. Once you get through, there is a short walk to the Lake and a nice little cove to stop for a picnic if you remember to bring things.

Great for Hiking

By Mike W |

BLM office was helpful in orienting us to good hiking trail options. Be sure to use the golakehavasu.com site to print off maps and directions for the different trails and hikes you can take. The hand drawn maps are really helpful (even more so than the BLM topo maps) especially when you use them with the written directions. Pay attention to the type vehicle needed to get to the trail-head. If 4-wheel drive, high clearance is required, they mean it.

We're in pretty good physical shape so we didn't encounter anything we didn't feel we couldn't handle including the hike up Picnic Table Mountain (more strenuous than the others we did). Take water!!! Regardless of which trail you decide to hike.
Much easier trips are out to Pilot Rock, Crack in the Mountain (very well marked), and to the Arch. Be sure you have maps if you are first timers on these trails. While the trails are fairly well traveled, there are a few places where you have to make choices about which way to go. The hikes are really enjoyable, with good scenery.

Best place for hiking around Lake Havasu

By Noah S |

This was our first stay in Lake Havasu and didn’t know really what to expect. What we found was a lot of motorized outdoor activities. Either people were boating around the lake or using off-road vehicles outside of town. We were looking for great hiking opportunities and didn’t want to rent a quad to get to a good hiking place. Found SARA park in the second day. It has a lot of trails and plenty of opportunity to explore. We completed the Crack in the Mountain trail and Tabletop. Both were a lot of fun. SARA park also used by bikers on some of the other trails. Gets you down to the water or just a great panaramic of Lake Havasu from the top of the mountain. Very beautiful.

Nice dog park

By Kate I |

Nice dog park - only stayed about a half hour. Lots of creepy people around - don't know where the park host was but not around making sure things were good - saw one RVer dumping their tanks in one part of the parking lot. Mostly people keep to themselves, but its time to leave when the few don't respect the privilege of having a space for everyone to enjoy.

Best kept secret of Lake Havasu City, AZ

By Marlene D |

Excellent Lake Havasu City Sportsman Club that offer shotgun, rifle and pistol ranges. Open to the public on certain days.
Very nice desert range.

Best hiking in Havasu !!

By tomnsusie2 |

The Crack at Saras park is a must do while in Lake Havasu City. Beautiful views, canyon and rock slide. View of the lake is great. We saw Mountain sheep also.

lots of confusing unmarked trails, but not lots of hikers

By Kip F |

We went twice to this park for hiking, and while the trail head parking is easy to find, there isn't lots of space at the second which would be a problem in busier times. The Trails are not well marked, and with so many of them it gets confusing. Most of the trails just meander for a while as if many hikers couldn't find the right trail and just wandered around til they felt like going back to the car. The official trails are red, blue, yellow and green marked, occasionally. The plastic 4 foot tall markers are sometimes missing and sometimes right in an obvious place. They may or may not have mileage on them. The first parking lot has a sign board with maps on it, but they aren't very detailed, and don't give much info or help. You need to know someone who has been there or meet someone on the trails to ask, which is what we did the first day. We made it to Tabletop ridge (Lizard peak trail), Crack in the mountain, and to the lake with a picnic table and a WC. The Arch in the rock trail was the most confusing. We found a website with a hand drawn map and directions, but while helpful to the rock not so much after. Dry and hot, take water and food, but nice to spend a few days hiking there.

Climb to Table Rock

By Michael B |

Up and back 2 hours. Loose material in both directions. View up top of lake and city. Everyone says lots of water, true enough went through 2 liters. Temp at end 91. Steep climb going counter clockwise on loop.

Hike-a-licious!

This is just a review of the hiking trails. It's as fun, beautiful and challenging as the other reviewers are saying (read those, too). I want to mention a couple of tips based on what we experienced: first, as others have suggested, follow the yellow trail (which goes through the slot canyons) to the lake. It's gorgeous. Taking the yellow gives you the advantage of gravity when you are going through the canyon area. That part is fairly well marked.

When you go back, you can take the blue trail, which follows the hill tops. Finding the blue was tricky to us. Once you get to the base of the lake, the trail isn't obvious, so my husband, having climbed the hill to get a better view, happened to see where the blue could be picked up. Better trail markers in this area would have been incredibly helpful. While the trail is pretty warn in, you don't actually see a blue trail marker for a bit (so you can confirm you are on the blue) and then you see them in areas they really aren't necessary. On the blue trail you are at the mercy of the sun (no shade), so prepare accordingly.

Other things to mention, bring plenty of water, download the hand-drawn map from the SARA website to your phone to have just in case (but it isn't necessary), and there are adequate bathrooms in the parking lot. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to do the 5 mile round trip. The crushed rock of the yellow trail is like walking on sand (makes walking a bit slower), but the blue is firm and you can go fairly quickly.

I wish all my workouts were this picturesque and fun!

Wonderful City Park

By Rylie G |

This a huge city park with a lot of activities (rodeo grounds, motocross track, Havasu speedway, BMX track, RC plane field, shooting and archery range, mountain biking and hiking). I took my dog to the dog park a few times, it's kinda small but nice. The dog park is closed at certain times some days. My brother and I also took my dog and did the Crack in the Wall hike. It's pretty fun. But you're basically walking in a wash the whole time, so be prepared to walk on the sand and gravel most of the hike. The cove at the end of the hike offers great views.

Great Hiking Location

By Tabitha R |

We took the Crack in the Mountain hike. It was approximately a 5 mile round trip hike from the parking lot to the lake and back. We took the "blue" trail out to the lake which took us up a ridge. We stopped at the lake which had beautiful views and many ducks. We returned by the lower "Crack in the Mountain" trail. This was amazing. Such a beautiful trail through the mountains. I would say this hike is moderately strenuous and required sure footing.

Great hikes, but confusing trails

By Juli V |

SARA park has lots of things to do. We mostly hiked. The Sarah's Crack trail through a slot canyon is a must do. Follow the creek bed from parking to the crack. The yellow trail is not well marked, nor are the other trails. We came back up by the Blue Climb which does along the peaks. Did not see any bighorns on our hike.

Nice sports fields

By David K |

We were here for a softball tournament. Lots of nice fields. Good place centrally located for the teams.

Excellent hiking close to town

By Gary L |

We wanted to get some hiking in while visiting Lake Havasu recently so we stopped by SARA Park and what a hiking system they offer, along with stunning views along the way. We chose the Crack Trail but only had 2 hours available so we didn't make it to the lake but will be back to complete it on a future trip. Hiking for all levels and many other attractions within SARA park itself. Be sure and have plenty of water along and pay attention to the cairns as the trail can be a bit of a challenge at times. A real gem and a perfect way to enjoy some of the beauty of the area.

Great MTB, Poor Trail Markings

By farfromhome808 |

Visiting Lake Havasu City, I scoped out the local mtb trails and found Sara Park. After renting a bike, I headed out and was really looking forward to it. For the most part, it did not disappoint. The riding trails varied between easy and challenging, the terrain was exactly what I was expecting, and the scenery was first rate. I really enjoyed it. I did not appreciate the lack of trail marking that I encountered about half-way through my ride. I was on, and meant to stick to the Watershed Trail since that was what I thought I had time for. However, after about 1/2 hour I encountered the first split in the trail that was not marked. I guessed (I think correctly) and kept going. Soon I was encountering spits every 10 minutes or so, that were not marked, nor on the trail map that I had. Occasionally there was a marker, but the labeling had peeled off and blown away. Sometimes there were little hand-made signs stuck in the ground that said things like "Refund" and "Recycle". I did not see any trails on my map that were called that, and I have no idea as to where those would have led. After about 1 1/2 hours I was truly wondering if I had made the right decisions along the way. Fortunately, I knew which way 95 was in relation to the sun so that helped, and I eventually came upon the "yellow" trail that goes to the Crack. I had gone and hiked a bit a few days before to recon the area, so I knew this would lead me out. Bottom line, it's a great park, with great trails and vistas. But bring a map, bring gps if you have it, as well as water. And for a park that is as well established and maintained as this, there is no real excuse to not have all of the trails marked.

Hikers must visit

By Chrisette S |

We have hiked several of the trails, especially The Crack. We got to a gorgeous viewpoint on the Blue Trail this trip. Always a fun experience!

Amazing hiking

By mark r |

I have yet to explore all of Sara Parks offerings and hiking trails but it is one amazing place.

If you like to hike I would urge you to check out Sara Park. Specifically the trail known as "Sara's Crack". This trail will take you from the road access to the trail head all the way to the lake. There is then an upper trail you can hike for the return trip.

Warning #1 It is NOT, let me repeat that, it is NOT handicapped accessible. It is in places pretty rugged with many obstacles and uneven terrain. Not sure how to classify it difficulty wise but I would say some areas are of medium difficulty.

Warning #2 You are in the desert and it is dry. Winter hiking the heat is not extreme but, rather pleasant. It is suggested you do take some water with you because dehydration is nothing to mess around with.

Warning #3 there is a danger of hiking in the rainy season due to flash flooding. I personally have not been in Lake Havasu during the rainy season. Please, just watch the weather and do NOT get caught in the wash should a storm be close. Rain many many miles away that you are not aware of can still cause flash flooding many miles away from your location.

Please, do not let the warnings scare you from making this hike. It is very rewarding and beautiful. Just be careful and be safe. During the rainy season check the weather and ask locals about pending flooding and you should be good.

Extra added note: River Scene Magazine is an on line magazine and is all about what is happening locally in Lake Havasu. It is a great resource to use for your visit or when planning a visit.

We did the crack to the arch one day, then the table down the back and back up through the crack again another day.

Trails are well marked, terrain is varied, fairly busy area and everyone is super friendly.

The view from the table was awesome, only took about 40 minutes to summit.

Highly recommended area!

A good overall park for outdoor activities, but the hiking trails are very poorly marked

By capitollover |

We went to Sara Park specifically for the hiking trails, but found them disappointing. The trails were poorly marked and the posts were far apart. It was easy to get off the trail since there are a number of divergences created by mountain bikes and just people going off-trail. Many of the hikes were in a wash, so the trekking was slow going through the loose sand and rocks.

Hiking boots/shoes are a must and hiking poles are very useful. Bring lots of water, as you should drink 1 bottle of water every hour while hiking in the desert. Sunscreen and a hat are also a must, and sun protective fabric clothing is a plus.

Bike & Hike to the Crack

By mrsfluffernutter |

There is so much to do in this beautiful park! We stayed in our RV as part of a rally on the Rodeo grounds. From here, we could hike, mountain bike, play disc golf and more! Plus the RC airfield, BMX trails, a shooting range, beautiful dog parks, and stunning scenery all around.
Our favorite excursion included a mountain bike ride out to the Crack (slot canyon) then a hike out to the Lake (green/easy trails, SW on Watershed Loop, then connect with the Red Trail til we came down into the Yellow Trail) and hiked through the Crack - so fun!)
Wear your hiking shoes, sunblock, and bring water!

Sara Park - The Crack in the Mountain

By Lynn M |

From previous reviews my husband and I went to Sara Park to hike. We chose the Yellow Trail to "Sara Crack". From the trailhead to the lake is a 2.5 mile hike. Start early, bring water. A nice hike that leads into a narrow ravine (the crack). Climbing between and over the rocks made for a challenging, fun excursion. At one of the steeper parts there is a rope to use. At the end of the Yellow trail you arrive at a scenic cove on the lake marked by a unique formation known as Balance Rock. For the return trip we chose the Blue Trail - wanted a view from higher up. Total hike was 5 miles and it took us just less than 3.5 hrs.

Lake Havasu City gateway to great hiking

By HavasuRealEstate |

Sara Park serves Lake Havasu City Az in a number of ways. Offering nearby dog park, baseball diamonds and more. But this area is really popular for the dozens of great desert hiking trails that start here. Something for every level of hiker. Some lead to high cliffs, mesa tops, others right down to the shores of Beautiful blue Lake Havasu. It is the desert SO always come prepared with plenty of water and pay attention to the trailways and terrain. Hike with a partner and be conscious of the temperatures and weather. In rainy situations stay on high trails and avoid the temptation to hike in the flat sandy washes. Old and young alike hike here lots in the winter season when the temperatures are quite mild. Like to MOUNTAIN bike , the area offers some truly wonderful bike trails too. Stop at the local bike shop for guidance and map ideas for these trails.

Wonderful park area on south end of Lake Havasu City

By HavasuRealEstate |

This park offers a dog park , games area and is the base point for some of the most popular hiking in the area. check out my facebook page for pics of the superb Sara's Crack hike through some stunning country and ends up at the lake front. Easy hike and well worth the 1/2 to 3/4 day round trip.

Varied and beautiful hike through the crack to the lake

By Harold W |

This is a beautiful hike; great desert scenery, a fascinating slot canyon and a great cove on the lake. It's probably easiest to do the slot canyon first, since you'll be going downhill. There are a number of minor obstacles to get past, but the only difficult ones are a 7-ft dry fall (when I was there, they had rope, so I just sat down and used the rope to slow down my slide), and a boulder lodged in the slot canyon - it looked precarious to me to go over it (altho I saw others do it), so I crawled under it (with a little help from another hiker who pulled me through). BTW, I'm 72. The only other problem is that there are multiple trails heading back from the lake area & they aren't marked. Basically, I think that last one before you descend into the bottom of the wash is the blue trail, which is not a difficult hike and follows ridges and skirts the mountainsides, bypassing the slot canyon. There is a "blue trail" sign about 1/4 mile from where you start back. Avoid in hot or rainy weather.

Lots to do here

By conniegum |

This Special Access Recreation Area just south of the town offers a variety of things for recreationists, from motorcross to softball to tennis and hiking. The park closes at 10pm but opens again at 6am. I hiked a trail down to Lake Havasu and it was a beautiful five-mile hike I'm glad I did in the cooler January. This place gets crowded with tourists, though, so plan ahead.

Good Hiking Trails

By glad25 |

Sara Park has numerous hiking trails some of which are relatively easy. 'Table Top' is rated the most difficult hike in the park, there is a beautiful view of Lake Havasu City from on top of this mountain, and a picnic table to rest. 'The crack' hike is a slot canyon, and is very fun to hike. Be careful though if it has rained there could be water in the canyon. One time we had to take off our shoes, and wade through water that was up our knees. Some of the hikes take you out to the lake, where washrooms are available, and an area to have a picnic lunch. Sara Park also has ball diamonds, auto racing, rodeo grounds and a dog park.

Racing Realities

By tomM2855FN |

Visited the Motocross track to watch our grandson race on 10/16/16. The track itsself is quite rocky compared to most tracks we have been to. However the course is very well designed and creates some interesting twists and turns for the riders. This track is located with a much larger park area that is truly a mecca for all things sports. From shooting, to auto/bike/motorcycle racing, rodeo, baseball, softball, etc. If you are a sports fan or participant. Lake Havasu's Sara Park has you covered. Plus lots of natural trails and just rugged beauty along the Colorado river

Boulder climbing was fun

By Theresa T |

Great Hiking trails from Sara Park. fairly easy but not to be done in the heat of the summer. some nice rock structures

Lots to do

By Linda B |

Has Hiking trails, dog park, motor speedway, rodeo grounds, gun club, baseball fields. Beautiful scenery.

On the south end of the city, right off of AZ95 South

Various special events are held here. Renaissance Fair, Pytotechnics 4th of July Show, Races, Rodeos, etc.

A little something for everyone.

Great morning jaunts

By Nicole N |

The morning hours are the best to start hike at Sara Park. You'll start with a sweatshirt but it will be off by the time you're done. The trails are great and actually made for all ages. Some slopes can be pretty steep at any trail but there's sometimes an easy option down a hill as well. Great views of the water and the city are easy to get to. We never saw any dangers like scorpions or snakes in early February. There are many options for lengths of trails and their times. Map and porta pottys at the trail heads.

Unbelievable

By Tracy K |

I have never seen a “city park” of this caliber! LHC is lucky to have this gem. Hike, bike, rodeo, race, you will find something for everyone! What a gem!

High School Mountain bike race

By Sukylady |

The trails are not easy according to our team which I believe is a good thing.

As a parent attending with a toddler I appreciated the bathroom block which was clean roomy (could actually get a large stroller in) and even had a real changing table. Yes it really is little things that make mums happy! Amongst the parents the bathrooms just made our day after going to many events with porta loos.

Best park in Havasu

By Lisa G |

There is so much to do here that I can't take the time to list everything this park offers. It needs to be on your must-visit list if you are visiting LHC. Top of mind, hiking, biking, frisbee golf, dog park, shooting range, and much more. Wide - open spaces.

working to bring fun to Havasu

By sportsstuff4ustore |

Good racing facility with several events throughout the year to bring in a variety of crowds. Stock car racing, rodeo and firework event are among the many events you can catch here while visiting

Great hiking country

By jb012 |

I know that Sara Park is a neighbourhood park with a ballpark and other recreational activities, such as a BMX track, dog park etc. For me, it was the gateway to some great hiking trails. It's 10 minutes south of the centre of Lake Havasu City, right off Highway 95. If you miss the first entrance (like I did!), there is a second entrance just down the road.

Never a dull moment

By Creeping_Death_LA |

During the cooler months this place must get crazy busy when events take place. They have everything under the sun here but it was empty when I went in September and it was over 100 degrees, well I saw a few people. I came prepared with a hat, sunglasses, good shoes, and water.

A moderate hike, but beautiful.

By Brentuna |

If you follow the yellow trail to the lake you can cool you feet off for the hike back up. This trail could be child friendly if the children are fit. Smaller children would certainly require help down the 7 foot rock slide, as it is pretty steep, (almost vertical)

Beautiful Views of the Lake

By Suezmike |

Hiking the trails of Sara Park is one of my favorite things to do. The park offers a trail for all skill levels with chances to see wildlife at every turn. The views of the lake are gorgeous and I highly recommend hiking the trail that goes through Sara Crack. It's a challenging hike but when you make it all the way to the water's edge it is AMAZING!

ONE WORD OF CAUTION: Do not leave any valuables in your vehicle while hiking. There has been a stream of break in's lately and coming back to your belongings gone from your car is heartbreaking after such a beautiful experience.

Excellent Hiking Area

By George M |

A beautiful desert, easy hiking location. One section called Crack in the Wall is a bit more challenging and does require some climbing up and/or down. Definitely plan to take some water for you (and your dog), especially during the hot summer months if you dare to go at that time.

Hiking Paradise

By Cindy T |

Easy to find, close to our hotel in Lake Havasu City, ample parking and a clean rest room, to boot. We hiked the Yellow and the Blue Trail. Most of the trails were well-marked and the trail itself was maintained. I didn't see any trash at all (thank you fellow hikers for picking up after yourselves). The views were spectacular. It was a great place to hike.

Nice park, close to town.

By cjd |

Nice short hikes available. Good scenery. Nice slot canyon. Good access to the lake. The town has lots of plans to add more to the park.

Lots of options and FREE

By April M |

At SARA park you can hike and mountain bike miles of trails. Many are not marked well, but you can easily find your way and skip along to another trail if you lose your way. That is what happened to us. We ended up on several trails and had a wonderful time taking in the sun and views. Bring water and be prepared for some scrambles depending on the trail hiked. I recommend using a trail app and downloading the map layers as there is no service on the entire trail. There is a water filling station at the main trail head with restrooms.

Best hike is the trip through Sara’s crack!

By Victor B |

This is a pretty big park, with several trails. My first observation was that the trails were pretty poorly marked. You would follow the Yellow signs for the Sara’s Crack hike (arguably one of the coolest ones) but we would go from yellow 2, to yellow 3, to yellow 8 markers for no apparent reason and spent most of the hike not sure if we were on track or off track. That said, the “crack” is a must do in the Havasu area. It’s mostly very easy with a bit of a difficult “bouldering” segment in the heart of the crack that some less athletic or old people will struggle with. On the return, take the “overpass” which is easier that going back through the crack a second time. Look for wildlife as we saw three long horn sheep quite close to us. Of course, watch for rattlesnakes. We did not see one. Finally, there was an unfortunate couple that locked their car and went for a hike and it was broken into. Windows bashed in. They left their phones and wallets in the car and they were taken. So….don’t leave any valuables in the car. I don’t think this happens often, but it definitely happens!

Disc Golf Fun!

By Timothy Y |

Our family loves this place for it's disc golf course. It has a lot of elevation changes and rocks all over the place. The wind does play a factor as the two times I played here, it was slightly windy both days. There is no shade, so don't go out on a hot day!

We've also hiked Sara's crack. I recommend turning around once you get to the end of the slot. There's not much interesting after that.

Ambiance with great beer selection!

By minnetraveler31 |

Came during the week with my parents & sat outside. The backyard patio is large, clean & inviting with plenty of seating & a stone waterfall.

Ordered a sampler and had six different beers to taste, including four dark beers! Liked almost all of them.

Had a small order of chicken wings and they were fine.

Wait staff was very friendly and helpful with answers to our several questions about the area.

Would definitely return!

Can find Mudsharks beer at the Chevron station at the corner too ;)

Beautiful place to cool off

By jbaines46 |

Visited here on a ' day use ' permit. We did the lightening bolt trail and the trail crossing over the highway, both offered lovely views of the river but had no shade so we were happy to return to the park and have a refreshing dip in the river, plenty of shade and lots of activity on the river to watch ( and avoid when swimming). We even saw a herd of burros come down to the river for a drink. Well worth the $10 entrance fee

Hiking

By rickc233 |

Great trails. Various degrees of difficulty to suit all ages and abilities. Water is a must. Proper footwear as well. Hiking poles are an advantage. Lots of friendly people to get information from who are hiking as well

Fireworks 💥

By jagsigns |

The best location to see the Pyrotechnics show in February. Dry camping is available (reservations are a must), providing the best seats in town!

Where's the trail?

By MrsHannah794 |

Drove through it. There were no clear signs indicating where the trail begins. If there had been, we would have gotten out to take the hike. But, we ended up driving straight through it.

Hiked to the lake

By vsantmyer |

We hiked about 21/3 to 3 miles to lake. We did not take enough water. We had lots of frozen bottles but they did not melt. It was a beautiful hike especially when when went through The mountains. Make sure you follow the markers back. We got off course and almost got lost.

Great facility.

By SantaRon |

rove through to check this facility out. Wow, what a great gem for those that live, work, and visit here.

enjoyed the vistas while walking

By clucumber |

Park is spacious and clean, clean restrooms, lots of places to walk, many folks out walking thier dogs!

Peaceful

By Maryl0u43 |

This is a wonderful little place to come to to just relax, walk/hike a little and observe the birds and waterfowl. We go back often.

beautiful

By sue12a |

Described as a moderate hike but some areas difficult, requiring rappelling. Sights were great, sun was out, who could ask for more!!

March rain may make it difficult to get to lake

By Nicholas R |

Yellow trail- prepare to either get wet or turn back. Recent March rain left several
large puddles. The Yellow Trail is definitely worth it- the first mile is easy, crushed gravel/sandy, and then you get to the rock formations. Well worth it and great pictures, but you don’t have to go too far before there’s a 15 foot puddle that you’d either have to walk through or cling to the side of the rock. We turned back around, but no regrets. Total walk to the big puddle and back was about an hour.

Wonderful Park

By Melanie H |

This is a wonderful park, especially for those who like to hike. If you do, be sure to go into Sara's Crack. It's a beautiful area, though pretty narrow, hence (crack). It also has a 7 foot natural slide that is pretty steep, but worth going down to see everything.

Launch Spot For Hiking and Biking

By Zoom_Gotti |

This is a multi-purpose activity park above the shoreline and just south of the center of the city. For hikers, a whole bunch of excursions up the hillside and down to the lake can be initiated from here, including the popular Sara's Crack. There are also opportunities for mountain biking, off roading, baseball, and shooting. If you hike bring water and snacks. Some of the hikes can take 3-5 hours to complete.

Beautiful park, great hikes!

By Kristin D |

We loved this park! We did Sara's crack which we were not able to get all the way through because of flooding but we loved the part that we were able to see - highly recommend if you're in the area!

Many Trails

By chefcrsh |

There are many desert trails all well marked and with beautiful scenery. The trails can be well traveled on weekends and holidays. There are bathrooms and maps at the three trailhead parking lots.

Lovely park by the lake

By Coachchadwell |

Nice place to take the family of children of various ages. Playgrounds for small children, but many ages of kids around on boats tied to the shore. Miniature light houses on the sidewalk walk around the lake.

Slot Canyon Hike

By Joe C |

We had a small amount of time to kill, so we hiked into the slot canyon at SARA park. It was a nice hike in, very moderate. The slots were amazing because of a large quantity of rain that fell there the day before. Once in the slots, you need to be somewhat athletic to negotiate some of the boulders. It's even more tricky if there are large puddles form rain. For us, the last "puddle" was five feet deep by ten feet across. Really cool time in there. To stay dry, we climbed up and over (it was a little gnarly, but way fun). The hike is short but totally worth it, especially as an introduction to slot canyons! Enjoy and be safe.

Go see the Crack

By Robert2014 |

Great hike. The crack in the mountain trail is pretty cool. It is not too strenuous until you reach the crack, which takes about 20 minutes to get through because the crack is about 2/10 of a mile long and you have to go between and over rocks. The 7 foot drop is aided by a rope. Young and old will be able to handle this trail. After the crack, you hike about another mile or so to reach the lake. It is very scenic and well worth it. The entire hike took us about 4 hours, but we took our time. You do not need hiking boots. Regular sneakers with good tread will be fine, and you don't need any hiking sticks. Make sure you go at least one day after it rains because there could be areas that get filled with water following a rain. The trail is marked but there are times when you can go off course so be careful. You can get a trail map on line.

Sara Park is GREAT!

By Coach M |

This was a very nice hike with alot of excellent views. The hike is not overly strenuous, but does have the option of some. Highly recommended for anyone that likes to hike, experience the outdoors, even for healthy older hikers.

Great Sites and Hiking Opportunities!

By docjk52 |

I'm a geocacher (global gps treasure hunter, geocaching.com) and Sara Park has plenty spread out across the acreage that will either test your hiking abilities or get you in shape to enjoy all of the trails that range from easy to challenging. I spent around 4 hours traveling all over the park and had a ball. The area has a radio control park for RC planes, helicopters as well as RC car/truck racers. Well laid out park with all types of activities. There is even a shooting range on the South end of the park. I'll be returning next Winter to try and explore more of this great park. Lake Havasu City has done an outstanding job designing and completing this park. A must see park.

Park near London Bridge

By westwomanaz |

Walked down to the park, less than quarter a mile, from the Hampton Inn. There is a boat dock, covered picnic and seated areas, some sort of rentals and a roped off swim area. Big sign says no dogs but from reading other reviews, it must be off to the side. Big RV parking next to it and huge parking lot. There early in a May morning but even then, some families on the beach.

Boat race?

By mhug41 |

Interesting & fun boat race with demo cars. No water, on the racetrack & lots of stupid fun for one night.

These boots are made for hiking

OMG for those not faint at heart hike to the Table Top. Incredible 360 views. Many trails to choose from. Considering the heat and possibility of encountering snakes I would recommend hiking early in the morning. Great views and great exercise.

This park provides sports opportunity for adults and kids alike! Baseball, softball, fireworks, rc cars!

Lots of things to do here!

By Brian P |

We didn't do a lot of the activities at the park -- just hiking and the dog park..and a brief watch of some people flying RC planes / copters.

We hiked down the wash as far as we could. If you do the same -- pack lots of water, and 30' of rope! There is one spot that is about a 12' drop at about 60-70 degrees.. and it's smooth. You can get up it with two people -- but depending on your abilities, the rope would make it much easier. after that it gets much tighter and a tougher trail -- we only made it a little ways past as there was a pretty good sized pool of water in the way (just rained the week before). But it looked wicked fun!

Dog park was fairly nice as well - I really can't compare it to anything, but there were a number of people there, and they had bathrooms, water, a kiddy pool for the dogs, separate large/small dog runs -- it certainly got the job done.

Many activities for locals and visitors all year long

By Z3484CWrobertm |

Sara Park is on the sound end of Lake Havasu City. It contains year around activities local and visitors. There are Baseball diamonds, Car race track, Radio Control Planes and Cars field, bicycle MX, rodeo grounds and hiking and in February the Western Fireworks folks put on a great display.

A MUST hike if in Lake Havasu!

By Jody D |

The Crack hike is the most wee known and worth doing for sure. We did it twice because it had rained lots just before we arrived and got our boots soaked! The other hikes are great as well.

Lizard Peak

Took the hike up Lizard Peak... If you can get past the 3 tricky ledges, the view is incredible (according to my husband) Take water and 2 phones.

Wonderful Slot Canyon!

By PHuang71 |

We had no idea this place has such a hidden gem! The slot canyon is not long, but super fun! Near the beginning of the canyon there is a small drop where you can rappel down. We've never done rappelling before, so it came as a surprise. But I'm glad we didn't know about it, or else we might not have come at all. The part you can rappel is a very small drop. It really isn't a big deal. But this new experience added so much more excitement! I totally recommend this place!

Sara Park is primarily a trailhead for 4-5 trails

By runtrails |

As you turn off London Bridge road there is a green, possibly, a park. However, the actual park seems to be further down the road. There is parking and flush toilets. There is a good trailmap showing multiple trails, mostly identified by color but some by name. The Yellow trail is Sara;s Crack which is first a wash that becomes a decent slot canyon. There is a rope on the only difficult part -- about an 8 ft drop over very smooth rock. The destination is an arm of Lake Havasu, about 2.5 miles. You can take the Blue trial up and over the rocks above the slot for a good view and to avoid the difficulty and still get to the lake. Dogs are supposed to be leashed but most were not.

Great Hiking with a Slot Canyon called Crack in the Wall

By pzieggy |

What a great place to hike. There is a slot canyon called Sara's Crack or Crack in the Wall. It is a 2 1/2 mile moderate hike from the parking lot through the crack and down to Lake Havasu. There are a couple of options for coming back. Either back through the crack or around it which is a bit of an up hill hike. There are other trails available such as a hike up to Picnic Table Mountain. We love this park. There are many different things available for others to do.

Great hiking but primitive trails

By Louise M |

Great hiking in the fall, winter, and spring. Too hot in the summer. Trails are primitive and not well marked. Sara's Crack is beautiful but difficult to get thru. Better to repel down than up and I don't think I could make it without the rope in place.

Moderate walking

By Lin J |

We’ve walked Sara park many times. It is a beautiful walk.
Sara park’s trails are not labeled very well. It is very easy to get lost. (We had a map)
This year, with the rain, the crack is filled with water. You can walk to it, but not through it.

Hiking, Model Airplane Field, Car and Motorcycle Races, Rodeo and my favorite the Dog Park (Dylan's Park) 2 sections one for small dogs and one for large dogs. Everyone is friendly and you are sure to make friends while your dog has a great time. If you like the outdoors you will love SARA Park.
Across from the dog park is a Vortex..oooooo

Havasu 95 Speedway

By danabd1 |

The people who run the track and great folks. Fun family environment. Great racing. We sit in the VIP section. $25. Gets you start finish viewing. And dinner 2 pieces of Little Caesar’s and 2 drinks from H2/0 to beer or wine.

Fantastic park!

By BlondieinHavasu |

If you like hiking, this is the place to go. SARA's crack is the best however if you're not very agile I suggest you go around the "crack". Also, don't attempt right after the rain unless you like to wade through the water. The destination is absolutely beautiful!

Star gazing

By Tanya B |

We found this to be a fantastic spot to see the moon and stars. BMX and rodeo as well as kids playground area.

Different trails to suit every need

By timothyk559 |

I first hiked Sara’s crack. It was a great mix of easy hiking and moderate climbing through the crack. The blue trail was definitely my favorite. Awesome hike higher up on the ridge. Super fun. Also a great view of the lake at the end of the trail.

Surpising fun for whole family

By smith1200 |

We just decided to drive through and look and ended up target shooting then watching the night dirt car races. Have been back several times to dog park, and sports fields, great place to visit for outdoor activities.

We went hiking there several times. Went through the crack twice and hike to table top. If it's hot make sure u go early.

A Park with Many Attactions

By Roger S |

SARA Park has a little for everyone: baseball/softball fields, rodeo area, motocross track, speedway, RC plane field, dog park, etc. We went for hiking. Walked into the 'Crack in the Mountains' which is a pleasant and fairly easy hike. The 'Crack' is beautiful and a very narrow section of the trail. There are other trailheads in the park also. Nice area to enjoy the mountains and nature.

Hiking

Great trails for walking or mountain biking. I take my dog with me. He loves it! Different trails for every level hiker. Bring water.

Very confusing

By Rochestergirl |

We have been hiking 45 years so I know we are very spoiled. However, this park had so many trails going every which way and was very poorly marked. If you lived here I am sure you would figure out the way to the crack area. For us it was a very hot hike with very few views that was worth the effort.

Multi purpose park...with breathtaking hike!

By Sheri M |

Sara Park is a local treasure for Lake Havasu City, sitting on the outskirts of the city and adjacent to the lake. There are raceways, rodeo grounds, small airstrip for remote control planes and helicopters...also used for many events such as an annual fireworks display. But, the park has a treasure...a wonderful, spectacular treasure not apparent until you embark on it. It's locally called 'the crack', a 3 mile hike to the lake through the most beautiful, scenic hiking trail that Arizona has to offer. Full of canyons, narrowing to a crack in the mountains which you traverse, you rappel, you scramble over enormous boulders...all the while in awe of your surroundings. A total must do when in Sara park!

Hike The Crack

By Pam D |

This is a great place for a hike. Hiking through "the crack" was a good challenge. Don't know if I could do it alone as a 5'4" woman (needed a spotter in some spots). The trails are well marked and you can see a variety of scenery on a 5-mile loop.

Awesome hike

By Brooke |

We hiked "the crack" which is the yellow trail on their maps system. It is a slot canyon and it was beautiful to hike through. I'm not an experienced hiker and it definitely wasn't easy but it wasn't super hard either. The park at the end had a beautiful view of the lake, then we hiked the blue trail back. It was mostly hikimg along the top of the hills, then some upward hike at the end, then it met back up with the yellow trail. It was well worth going, I would definitely go again. Bring water, and take your time. It took us 3 hours and that was with stopping to take lots of pictures and enjoying Sara park for a bit.

Dissapointing wish I didn't waste the time

By Love2dine054 |

Drove out to Lake Havasu with this being our first excursion. Parking not easy to find (across the road from the trailhead entrance) and the routes (blue, yellow and red) are not well marked. They are marked but not where you need them to be such as at crossroads.

We took the yellow route down to the water (through Sara's crack). The yellow route is basically a VERY sandy wash. For those of you unfamiliar sandy wash means rocks constantly in your shoes and a decent amount of instability underfoot which will slow you down. The crack (per what we read) was a disappointment (not very steep or very long).

We reached the water which was also a disappointment. A small marshy area with a rock that you could sit on and eat a snack or lunch. The view was not impressive.

For the way back we took the blue route to make it a loop. This was a well packed trail with nicer views. For us we would have preferred to take the blue route first (see the water the whole way down) and the yellow route back. However doing it this way would make you have to hoist yourself up the crack vs. down (easier). For older folks I would suggest taking the blue down and back and skipping the wash and crack completely.

Personally I would skip this hike but that is akin to experiencing much better hikes elsewhere. The total hike took us 2 hours (apprx. 5 miles total) but we are very fit and wanted to move out as it was 90/sunny the whole time. Beware no shade here.

SARA Park is more than just a park- great for tons of recreation

By SusieStocker |

Love Sara Park. This not so little gem is on the south side of Lake Havasu City. At McCulluogh Blvd S and Hy95 just turn west.It has 1100 acres with spectacular mountain and desert views and access to Lake Havasu after a long hike. The park has a network of poorly marked hiking and mountain bike trails (get a map online), baseball fields, a dog park, rodeo and fairgrounds,a RC plane field and a shooting and archery range. If you are going hiking pack twice as much water as you think you need. I do not suggest hiking alone because I've run into several packs of coyotes on my walks. Great place for photographers. Events have a charge but access to the trails, parking and the dog park are free.

Walk in the park

By avdrewlhc |

Sara park has great hiking and fantastic views of both Lake Havasu City and the lake. The hike to Lizard Leap is worth the effort. There is even a picnic table at the top.

Sara Park

My son played a baseball tournament at this park. The park is very clean with a lot of different things to see and do at the park. However, the baseball fields were too close together for the fans.

A good way to spend a few evenings

By katy20082014 |

They were both fun and a great recreational activity. We went to the car races and BMX bike races. Good way to spend an evening they were cheap and fun entertainment.

hike

By MelissaWP |

We hiked to see the "crack in the rock." This is generally a relatively easy hike, but can be challenging if the temperature rises too high, so consider going early or later in the day. Remember to bring water and sunscreen.

Great hike!

By Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb1 |

Loved the hike go early due to heat later in the day. Sara Slot gorge was fun but some climbing or decent required to get thru. We did it with a group of 6 and some were not used to the climbing to complete part of the hiking. Most in fair to good health can do it.

Interesting landscape, signage lacking

By Cheryl A |

Even with our maps bought at the Lake Havasu City Visitor's Center, the trails were questionable. Little colored markers on posts meaning what? There is no map at the parking area just a blank signage wooden area. Little "goat" trails meander off into nowhere or dead ends. Trails in the area around Lake Havasu City we determined are predominately "washes" so they are sand, gravel, rocks. If you step back and look around, you can appreciate the beauty of the rocks. But hiking up a trail hill led to a rock outcropping on the other side. Not what we were looking for. One person recommended we go to the BLM office in town to talk to them more.

Nice Dog Park Here

By Mike_TV_Producer |

Park area was quiet when we stopped in to a "vintage trailer" event at Rodeo grounds. Grassy dog park.

Amazing hiking

By Official US Traveler |

Follow the wash down to the 'Crack in the Wall'. This is a neat little hike, I would consider moderate. You then cut back up the mountain, for an excellent view of Lake Havasu! If I lived in the area, I think I would hike this everyday!

Hiking to Lizard Leap - take care!

By WelbyTraveller |

In October 2018 we returned to Sara Park and made the hike to Lizard Leap to have lunch at the top. It's presented as a loop walk but as ever with Sara Park the guidance is very limited. The trail heads off from the wash south of the parking lot. We started on the north part of the loop but halfway up we encountered the climbing section. This involves climbing a section with no ladder, ropes, or chains and - basically - it's extremely dangerous unless you are carrying very little, and are very agile. Why there is no assistance like a rope, or even a cut step, I have no idea. We gave up on the spot as the last thing we wanted was a broken ankle or arm halfway up a steep slope. A couple behind us were hiking with their dog; we warned them as we passed on our way back down, but they had a try too. We watched them through binoculars and had they had to give up too. Instead, we headed back down and walked back up the south side of the loop. This is quite challenging but much more manageable. It's a long way round and up with a couple of false peaks before you finally make it to the table. See picture with view from the top looking south (T marks points on the last part of the trail up). The table is perched on a narrow ridge with precipitous drops on either side. Do NOT take small children up here unless you can restrain them, and if you suffer from vertigo you may find it uncomfortable. See the picture (P marks the site of the parking lot). The hike down is quite tiring because of the gradient. It's a great hike but my recommendation is do not take the northern half of the loop: take the southern half and return that way. The trail is poorly signed throughout, especially higher up, and the proliferation of false trails makes the hike difficult.

Awesome hike - blue trail poorly markec

By Butchy11 |

Awesome hike! Started 9 AM and good signage on yellow trail through Crack in Mtn Trail right to lake <1.5 hours. Saw mom & baby sheep just above the crack. Took blue trail back but only found because of another hiker. Overview on this trail spectacular plus easier than climbing back up through the crack. Total time 3.5 hours with 1/2 hour break at covered table with organic toilet.

Very different than hiking in NH

By Kathi M |

Very unique experience. We were a bit scared as it was just 2 woman and we felt like we were alone out there. I think the animals that we could have seen had us on edge. Like, rattlesnakse and lizards. We made it to the Crack but since we hadn't seen anyone in a half hours time, we figured we should turn around. We felt like we were in No Mans Land. But it was still a neat adventure. Plus, we were running out of water and it was 98 degrees HOT!

Beautiful

By Barb P |

Lots of great scenery here! You could spend all day here. Lots of great picture opportunities. My sister, age 62, actually climbed Sara's Crack and lives to tell about it! Bring your bottled water with you!

Great Hiking

By J G |

There is great hiking opportunities here. For our first visit we tried to make it through Crack in the Rock. We got down to the very bottom after traversing some difficult spots with standing water. When we got to the final "obstacle" the standing water was not traverse-able and we had to go back up. This made for a fairly difficult hike because we had to get by the other difficult areas with standing water. We then made out way back towards Lake Havasu and Balance Rock Cove. We covered over 7.5 miles on a beautiful sunny day in the 60's in February. Could not ask for better being from Minnesota!

Trek and disc golf

By benducklow |

Although I didn't make the trek down to the lake, I went here with my wife and 2 teenage boys and hicked to the top of one of the 'mountains' and overall did like 5-6 miles. My wife went the next day and did the full trek down to the lake and she loved it.

I also did play 18 holes of disc golf, but it was brutally windy! Not great for play, but I HAD to play considering the scenery. Overall, a very unique round and glad I played regardless of the wind.

Stunning slot canyon and epic day of hiking

By Sara S |

We came to hike Sara’s Crack however this park has so much to offer. The hike was incredible from start to finish. The crack would be challenging for the mobility challenged but there where plenty of accessible and easy trails. Water and toilets at trailhead and a toilet at the lake which was the culminating point of a 2.5 mile hike. We took the ridge back to the parking lot rather than back track and climb up the crack. We will definitely be back and try other trails.

Breathtaking and Fun Hike

By SaskMomTraveller |

Must do. Beautiful hike in winter months and a quick drive just outside of Lake Havasu. The ‘crack’ has a Spot where water heading on the time of year so be prepared to get wet. There is a plank and it was dry for us! It’s about two third of the way the ‘crack’ Also know that once you get to the end of the ‘crack’ - you don’t have to go back through. There’s a path just to your right - and stay right that takes you around and will connect you towards the parking lot. We went on from this path and connected with the trail that will bring you up to lizard’s peak. Watch for trail markers. Lizard’s peak is simply outstanding. There is a picnic table at the top spend some time there and look down and you will see a giant lizard made of rocks. in all - doing both took about three hours Sara’s ‘crack’ can be hiked in an hour - 1 hour and a half. Bring water and wear a hat and good hiking shoes - rocks can be slippery with runners. Garden gloves may save your hands too. The crack isn’t good for young kids - you would do lots of lifting and manoeuvring. Loved this hike!

Fun hike

By Kat O |

We were looking for an easy trail to hike inn March with my husband's older sister, and the Sara Park Wash/The Crack in the Wall trail area worked well for her. There are several trails (specified by color) that begin at the trailhead parking lot, but the signage helps to direct your path. About a mile down the wash, we came to the beginning of the Crack in the Wall, but we didn't hike through it. Instead, we hiked up the hill to get a view of the lake and surrounding scenery. The temps were mild, so it wasn't too hot for hiking without shade. Later in spring and summer, these trails would be best hiked in the early morning or evening hours.

SARA Park Hike

By Terry W |

SARA (Special Activities and Recreation Area) Park is a large public park on the south side of Lake Havasu, It includes a ball field, race track, rodeo grounds, shooting range, RC airplane strip, dog parks, and dozens of hiking trails. For me, the main attraction is the hiking area. This is true desert hiking with NO amenities but some spectacular desert views. Most trails follow the dry stream beds down to the Lake and at least one goes up about 1000 feet to a mountain top with a park bench on top. You can enter the park from McCulloch Blvd and Hwy 95, or from the main entrance about a mile south on Hwy 95 at the Welcome to Lake Havasu City sign. There's paved parking at the trailhead with a kiosk showing some of the trails and local plants and animals. My routine is to hike/run down to the lake and back for exercise. It's 2.3 miles each way for a 4.6 mile loop. I like to follow the yellow trail along the stream bed until it branches off to the right on the blue trail, and then back the same way. First time visitors should definitely take the yellow trail all the way to the lake to experience the "crack". It's a narrow slot canyon with steep walls and a water polished slide that drops you down about 6-8 feet sliding on your bottom and landing on you feet. Sometimes there's a rope to slow your slide. If you're fit it's easy and fun, but if you're old, frail, or over weight it could be a challenge. It's especially beautiful hiking out of the canyon after the slide. You follow the stream bed all the way to the lake. Vegetation is heavy as you approach the lake so stay to the far right along the slope and you'll arrive at Balanced Rock Cove on Lake Havasu. The attached photo shows the canyon in the Spring when the prickly pear cactus is blooming. After soaking your feet in the cove, head back by going uphill on the blue trail. That takes you over the pass instead of through the crack. It's mostly uphill on a low grade but it can wear you out so take your time. Turn around frequently for the best views of the lake. Photo ops everywhere. And finally a word about the desert. In the summer it's easily120°. Wear good shoes, sun screen, and as much water as you can carry. You'll drink it all. Take a cell phone. A sprained ankle means you can't make it out without help. And YES, there are rattlesnakes around. You're not likely to see one but I'm out there so much I've seen three of them, all on the trail. They're in a hurry to get out of your way so don't mess with them. Don't pose for a picture with them. Don't think they're tame. A bite will ruin your day and maximize your deductible and insurance coverage in antivenom.

Nice park with something for everyone including the dog

By George K |

Nice park with many activities including a pistol, rifle, shotgun and archery range that is opened to the public several times a week. This park also has a batting cage, baseball fields and dog park .

bad signage, great hike

By Janine L |

Would liked to have had more signage showing where to go, there are so many trails and you could get lost. The only reason we knew where to go was by talking to other hikers. Going between the mountains (Sara's crack) was really fun, be prepared to go up or down an 8 foot rock with a rope that is provided.

The best of Lake Havasu1

By Benjamin H |

This a great place to visit. You could spend a whole winter hiking the different trails. Some easy and some difficult. Visit the race track, RC airport, view fireworks, walk your dog. Access picnicing and camping spots on the lake.

Wonderful park in a wonderful city.

By jennilaz |

This city of 54 000 is perfect if you plan your weather timing well.
Autumn and winter are the best times to visit.

Awesome afternoon hiking option.

By curtishinton |

Took advantage of an afternoon off and sought a hike. The park was recommended. I look for good walking trails while on the road. I didn't find good, I found great. Took the 2.8 mile trail. It started by following a flash flood streambed. Many side trails offer more challenging paths always coming back to the main trail. About 1/2 way the path narrowed to a rock canyon. The walls got tighter until you had to squeeze through. A couple of places were challenging for a middle aged 230 lb man. Eventually it opened up onto a beautiful vista of lake havasu. Awesome. Took the high mountain trail back. Hard work but rewarding.

Impressive City park with So much to see and do.

By ronnyber |

I had the pleasure of making SARA park my hiking and exploring playground for 2 weeks in February. Great trails for everyone of all abilities. Download the trail maps from the web and set out for a daily adventure. Never met so many friendly hikers in one place.

Wonderful place to hike.

By penny o |

You can enjoy Sara Park whether or not you are a hiker. Its a beautiful place to stroll around, or hike the beautiful, natural trails. Be sure to take lots of water regardless of what you do, because the air is very dry regardless of the time of year. And don't forget your camera, because there are some very beautiful views everywhere.

Hiking and walking spot

Nice , well maintained city park , dog park , model airplane flying site , 95 Speedway , walking/hiking trails , and ball diamonds/batting cages ,,,, park will undergo some changes in next year or two , more baseball/sports areas ,

Great family place. Super athletic park

The little league teams draw us here when baseball is in full swing. Lots of activity going on all the time. Plenty of distraction for the littler ones who do not want to watch.

DON'T GET STUCK IN SARA'S CRACK!!!!

By pyramoon |

did a couple of different hikes back in sara park.....one to SARA'S CRACK the other to PILOT ROCK....both awesome, both long. lots to see...we encountered a 6' long rattle snake and a gila monster.......make sure you take plenty of water!!! the only complaint is that the trails aren't clearly marked at all times and there are several trails that branch off the main trail but get you to where you need to go....make sure you have a good sense of direction if you plan to hike here. there are also lots of points when you WON'T get cell service......

great hiking trails

By Alan Z |

there are several different hiking trails down to the lake, ball fields, shooting range, auto race track, model airplane airport, & a couple times a year the pyrotechnics come in to show off their new fireworks putting on a great show.

Great hiking trails for most levels of hikers. Views are amazing! Trails are marked out fairly well - although can be a bit confusing at times.

Rodeo Grounds Camping

By Bill J |

Went to see the Winter Blast. Although we thought this would be dry camping, the Rodeo grounds does have facilities. It has the normal bathrooms you'd expect at a Rodeo venue, but it also has 4 newish shower rooms. Each night of the blast, they provided food and a minimal cost and there was a pretty good cover band each night. RV parking was in a dusty parking lot, but they made every attempt to keep the dust down by watering the lot each morning. I will definitely be back here for winter blast

Lots of trials...

By Jessica S |

It's hard to see and follow trails. Best to drop a pin so you can find your car when hiking out. The water is about an hour and half 45 min in.

Dog Park & RC Flying

By dhinkley66 |

Took our dog to the dog park, also my husband flies RC planes there. A huge park with multiple activity spaces.. Very nice

Easy access

By Rextrent |

Easy enough to find when you know where to look, just south of town.
Seems that there was a sign for it on Highway 93.
Easy walking and more strenuous style if one desires.
Nothing paved here that I could see.
We really enjoyed this place.

Hike the "crack".

By Amy W |

We loved the hike to the crack at Sara Park. Just a little challenging. leave the stroller behind, and it may be hard to get the dog down the rocks, though some people had dogs with them.

Wonderful hikes here

By BecRecks |

We walked to Sara's crack -miles and my husband walked on to Lake Havasu -2 more miles - beautiful place to walk but start out early as it is hot. The crack is cool with ladders and ropes to help you through it. My husband got lots of great pics of a bighorn sheep there.

Walk on the wild side

By dpfeifer_11 |

I liked hiking into the slot canyon. Very scenic and enjoyable and plan to go again. Also there are different trails to go back to your starting point.

excellent outdoor area

By Riverbabe60 |

lots of hiking, play areas for the kids, racetrack and ball fields as well as many events at this park

Fun Hiking Adventure

By 4kristi |

We went prepared with lots of water to drink. Our GPS said it was 3.6 miles to walk the yellow trail to the lake. We went through Sara crack. it is challenging. There was another section that we took our shoes off so they wouldn't get wet. The water was 3 ft deep for a short distance. Climbing back out there was a rope to aid in one section of the trail. There was awesome sights and a feeling of accomplishment when you get to the lake. There are def stretches that are dry and rocky.

Scenic hike

By Donald A |

Lots of hiking trails. Not steep, but long and some crawling over rocks. The longest path is about three miles one way to from the parking lot to Lake Havasu. Lots of rock different rock formations along the way. We did not see any wild animals, but maybe didn't know what to look for. Fun, nonetheless. A good idea would be to download a map of the park from the internet before. you go. And of course bring along some drinking water.

Nice hike

By whitefish |

We hiked this with friends who had been there before. Round trip to the lake, going through the crack on the way back took us about 3 hours. Bring water! We stayed to the right on the way down, like walking on top of a ridge. Beautiful scenery.

Lovely clean park with some great bike and walking trails

By Julie K |

Hike the 2.5 mi Roundtrip trail to the Crack on Sara's Crack trail. Great photos can be made along the way once you reach the hills and rocked walls. There are lots of nooks and crannies to make fun photos. Be prepared to decend down a boulder with a rope to get to the crack. If you aren't strong in the arms/legs, it may be difficult to get back up with the rope. Be prepared to have assistance or stop and photograph the crack from there and don't decend. There is no cell phone service within to help you out. Also, the trail is both hardened soil and small gravelly rock so if you are in need of help, I suggest a hiking stick/pole. Also use a camelbak in the hot weather. Use the bathroom at the parking lot before you start the hike. No bathroom on the trail. Keep the park clean please! Take your trash/waterbottles out.

Great canyon hiking!

By mrt1955 |

Excellent trails through a really cool canyon and along a neat ridge line.

Check out the pdfs of the trail maps before you go, put on sunscreen and bring water and then enjoy a really nice day of hiking.

Be mindful of cairns

By Richard B |

This is an interesting hike marked by rock cairns and some colored stakes. It has a slot canyon, some elevation gains, some nice views, and at 4.5 miles will provide a decent workout. After I parked and while getting ready to head out, there were gunshots. It turns out that adjacent to Sara Park are shooting and archery ranges. I thought the placement was odd but it turned to be of hop consequence. Still….

The feel of a desert!

By Ssamanthaa3 |

Highly recommend! Awesome hike!
Must bring a LOT of water! And be prepared to climb a little to get through the rocks!

Great Hiking

By Ralph P |

Sara crack is pretty radical trail , sliding on your but to get down towards the lake. Mountain bike trails all over the place too.

Beautiful hike. Hikers ranged in age from 9 year old to 69 year old. Very scenic and beautiful views. One recommendation, don't forget the water
