Have lived near the mountain and heard of the Indian seats all my life. Took my wife and 3 children for an early morning hike to the top. Was worth the trip. We took the shorter of the two trails and the hike was not that bad. Watch out for the roots they can be a tripping hazard. I was surprised at how many people where at the top once we got there. We had planned on only staying a few minutes then heading back down but it was a clear day so we sat and enjoyed for about an hour before heading back down. I believe we were their for a total of 3 hours and will be back.

Adults and children alike will enjoy the hike through the woods on groomed trails. Several pathways offer shorter or longer hikes. The incline is gentle enough for children. Take a lunch in your backpack and enjoy the scenic view at the top of the mountain. Excellent family outing.

Great spot to get a nice short hike in. Trail is shady by trees so it the temperature was nice even with the hot weather. Pretty lookout spot at the top.

We go here for hiking pretty often. It's a bit challenging depending on which path you choose, but once you are on top of the mountain the view is amazing, especially during fall colors. Make sure you check the weather before going on hikes as it usually takes about 1-2 hours to finish and if it rains heavily there are no shelters on top or on the way, only shelters are near the parking lots.

Oh my gosh! I LOVED Sawnee Mountain! I didn't even do all the trails, and I am already absolutely in love with that place. My boyfriend and I just did the trail to the summit, because we were a tad short on time. We went on Saturday, August 1, 2015. It wasn't crowded at all! There were a few people on the summit, but it was definitely not too many. It was so beautiful the whole way up. The trail is shaded. It is a climb, but it isn't super steep. Once you get to the Indian seats, you need to go a few more yards and then you reach the observation deck where there is a panoramic photo on there that lists which mountains you are seeing in the distance. The views are insanely beautiful! There are so many rocks to just chill out on up there. I can't wait to go back and do just that. I did sit in the Indian seats. It's a tad intimidating, and I'm not even afraid of heights! It's a great photo opportunity though.
By the way, there are two places to park for this park. We parked at the location that doesn't have the visitor center, Bettis Tribble Gap Road. There are restrooms there, a playground, and some picnic areas that I noticed.

We love this park! We use the visitors center's different programs for our preschoolers! Fantastic trails, wonderful tree house toward the bottom, great playground midway and of course the Indian seats offer an incredible view with a relatively easy hike.

Just got done hiking the Sawnee Mountain Preserve and have done it many times before. It is a great few hours hike on a beautiful day. Just long enough and the view is beautiful at the top.

I great place to trail run, the trails are marked well and it's a good challenge to get to the top. The view from Indian Seat is great and on a clear day you can miles! Visitor center is very nice, worth a visit!

There are some decent hiking trails in this park. Nothing too difficult but a decent workout. There are two different entrances for hiking. The main entrance offers a small playground and museum.

This place is absolutely beautiful!!! The view from the top is gorgeous and so peaceful. Definitely recommend this to anyone in the area!

Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a fantastic amenity right outside Cumming. There is a nice visitors/educational center. However we use the park for its trail system. Besides the Spot Road entrance, there are two entrances off of Bettis-Tribble Gap Road. Both sides have playground equipment, picnic facilities and restrooms. The “newer” side has approximately 5+/- miles of inter-linked trails that provide a great workout. The trail on the other side leads up to the Indian Seats, providing a nice view towards the North Georgia mountains. You can make an 8 mile loop between all the trails. And the trails are easily accessible from the main Spot road entrance. Sawnee Mountain Preserve makes a great family outing or a strenuous workout. Your choice!

Not the greatest. Whoopee you see some architects house up on top> Why the county purchased it is beyond me and many friends. Want to see something that is worth seeing go to Dawsonville to the Chestatee Wildlife Refuse (mini zoo) well woth it.

I absolutely love visiting the Sawnee Mountain Preserve, in northeast Cumming, GA. Great for a picnic. Wonderful nature trails. The reserve is separated into two parts by Bettis Tribble Gap Road. Since I'm encumbered by arthritis, I take the easier path from the north parking lot (accessed from Spot Road visitor's center, or on the mountain via the north parking lot off Bettis Tribble Gap Road), which has benches situated along the way, leading up to the top area called Indian Seats; such a beautiful view. The south parking lot on Bettis Tribble Gap Road leads to a more advanced hiking trail for those who are more fit. Makes for a lovely, scenic morning or afternoon. The paths are nicely maintained. The North side will take you past the old gold mine entrance, with historical information posted in the park. You do need to keep an eye out for the local wildlife around the trails, and be sure not to wander off... plenty of poison ivy and hidden creatures off the beaten path. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

We were married here May 2016. It is a beautiful spot for any outdoor event like a wedding or picnic or family reunion. We rented the amphitheater for our ceremony and it was wonderful.

Man’s best friend is not allowed in the park but feel free to bring your trash and throw it around on the trail. What a joke. Thankfully there are alternatives nearby outside this local government’s ridiculous ordinances.

Sawnee Mountain is a great treasure right in Forsyth County. Several trails, something for everyone, and a great little museum. Not to be missed. But don't take your dog ... Dogs are not permitted.

Great, clean place to walk trails
Grounds are well kept. Friendly and safe
environment. Very enjoyable walks for exercise.

pretty views. easy hike. lots of people but not crowded feeling.
bring camera for amazing view.
lots of people brought picnic to eat at top of mountain.

This Preserve is surprisingly close to the North Atlanta communities. I'm use to driving 90+ minutes into the North Georgia mountains for some interesting hikes. The Indian Seats loop is roughly 4 miles and my 7 year old daughter easily hiked the trail.
It is a 600 foot elevation change to the top of the mountain from the visitor center. On the clockwise approach to the peak, the trail does some easy switchbacks which make the trail comfortable for kids. The trail bed is definitely rock and root strewn in places so it can catch little one's feet at times but the trail is generally very wide and comfortable.
The view North at the top is nice with interesting granite outcrops including the eroded "seats" themselves. Definitely watch the kids as the North face has a steep drop. There is a railed wooden platform at the very top for corralling the kids close to the edge.
There are two grated mine shafts portraying the mountains gold history and some placer pits near the playground. The placer pits area has a historical sign that I tortured the kids and made them read aloud.

Decided to strike out and do this hike on Saturday of 4th of July weekend and what a fantastic hike. The forest is beautiful. Entered from the Spot Rd location and that was a great choice. This is a bit of a strenuous hike in some places, especially on a humid Ga summer day. The views from the top are worth it though. It's a rocky, rooty trail so make sure you have shoes that support your feet and ankles.

Grand place to walk. Great place to see the Mashburn garden on Tribble Gap entrance. I took my GRANDdaughter up the trail of Sawnee Indian seats. Lots of tree roots be careful. Nancy W.

Great outdoor hiking trails. Kids loved the rock wall climbing. Beautiful in the fall. The trees are beautiful from the top

Wonderful place to hike and enjoy nature for all ages. Clean bathrooms and playgrounds also at the location.

Beautiful facilities. Plenty of parking. The staff is extremely helpful. Trails are marked clearly. Lots of educational classes offered.

Cannot believe there is a trail with no dogs allowed. Why on earth no dogs? That’s crazy. We drove 25 minutes to enjoy a nice family hike and we’re confronted with huge “No Dogs Allowed” signs. Never been to a mountain trail where dogs weren’t allowed or I would have thought to check first.

My wife and I love hiking/walking here, it's a peaceful and easy hike, real nice views and lots of shade. We really enjoy the fact that no pets are allowed especially dogs which can be a nuisance of several categories. It really is nice to find a "human only" environment where we can enjoy natures animals and not have to deal with someone else's pets.

Sawnee Mountain is always a good quick hike if all you need is to stretch your legs a bit or are taking little ones along. If you want to do some training it’s an easy loop with alternative routes to repeat as desired.

Very impressed with this park! The visitor center looks like a tree house with interesting history inside and small local animals on display. So definitely stop inside plus they guide can provide you with a map and information about options for the hike. The trail was very well maintained and is about 4 miles round trip. It’s partly uphill and some parts rocky so it’s not easy but also very do able. The views at the observation deck are totally worth it! It’s a serene place and I’ll definitely go back again. Tip - be sure to pay attention and stay on the marked trails.

We we so impressed with the facilities of this place - nice indoor information center with a clean restroom, outside a porch with chairs to sit, a children's play area inside and outside. We hiked up to the top (nice trails and signage) and really enjoyed the view and the exercise. Would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in hiking and learning a few things about the local area.

You can choose various length of trail to hike. Great hike to sweat off the day and the view is good frim the top. If you are there when its windy than its more awesome...

This is one of the most beautiful parks in North Ga. The Forsyth Co park & rec does an excellent job of keeping up with this part. The park staff are most helpful (except one guy who was very arrogant, named Matt). Tommy Bruce and the park staff should be applauded for what they have done with this park.

Good trails that aren't too strenuous for families but aren't flat and boring either. Love hiking this area!

This place has a lot of potential. Currently there is a visitors' center on the north side of the mountain. Hiking trails originate there and get you to the top of the ridge with a short, moderate hike. There are plans over the next few years to extend the Big Creek Greenway to this park, which would be great.

Definitely worth the hike to the top of the mountain as the view is beautiful. Once you get there, sit on the rocks and enjoy it.

I have heard of the Indian Seats at Sawnee from people who grew up around the area. How they use to go up there when there we no trails. Hang out with the full moon.(Glory Days) I went last Sunday for the first time. What a hidden gem. Nice maintained trails and the view was awesome.

Having just moved to the area, my family and I have been looking for new opportunities within a few miles of our house. It's hard to miss Sawnee Mt. since it can be seen from all over the county. We took a Saturday morning hike here in August and had a lovely time.
Bring you hiking shoes...some water and snacks in a pack because if you take the trail head from the Visitors Center, a 3.5 mile hike is in your future. With boys aged 14,11, and 8 we had lots of stops and were sort of unprepared for the climb. The view from the top is gorgeous and well worth it. But if you didn't want to hike so far you can go from another parking lot and have a shorter trail.

Wonderful family time. Gorgeous vistas of North Georgia and Appalachian Mountains. 2 points to start your hike to the top, 2 parking lots . Fun for all generations.

Excellent place to hike or walk. The trails are well maintained and the views are lovely. There are areas to picnic and clean bathroom facilities.

This is a beautiful, well maintained park with nice trails. The Indian seats are breathtaking and a great reward for a moderate hike. There are lots of trails and it is perfect for all ages. Definitely check it out!

If you love to hike this is the place for you. There is a playground for the kids and hiking trails that go to the top of the mountain for great views. This is a fun place and a must see if you are in the cumming area.

As a young female this hike is pretty great. There are numerous trails located on a mountain just minutes away from the center of town. I feel safe enough to hike on my own. I really wish one trail or side of the mountain allowed dogs.

It is an easy to moderate trail. Well maintained. The visitor center is very nice and the employees are very helpful. Nice views from the top. A five mile hike and you could take alternate trails to explore more.

Found this place from an article on Atlanta Trails. I have a 4 year old so we were only able to do the fairy trail, play in the sand area, see the treehouse and visit the little library. I later found out that there is a new play area on the other side but that's okay we spent a good 3.5 hours there. :)

Love Sawnee !! All different lengths and levels of hikes. Great for all ages. No dogs allowed. Highly recommend!

We frequent the Indian Seats trail with our kids. It's not too long, not too short and the reward is really great for what you put into the hike. Sawnee mountain has much more to offer besides just the trails; programs, classes, camps. The visitors' center is great and we like the little trails around it, the fairy trail is always a fun little walk. No pets on the trails so leave all those leashed iguanas, fish, and puppies at home.

For being so close to metro-Atlanta, the hike is pleasant and not difficult, the view is beautiful. Well traveled, not overly crowded trail.

Thanks to some ahead thinking residents and Forsyth County, this a beautiful spot. The trails ands views are great. It is good spot just to sit and relax. Well worth your time to see and enjoy.

The new addition to the preserve located off of Bettis Tribble Gap is impressive especially in comparison to its counterparts. The new playground is amazing, kids of all ages seem to like it, that said, you will run into a group of highly annoying teenagers who don't know any better than to hog all the swings and curse in front of your 7 year old. Otherwise, it's mostly nice and peaceful at this suren location. Not sure however why no dogs are allowed at any of the three parks?

Loved this small park and their trails. You can walk as far as you feel comfortable. There were plenty of places to sit to rest. The preserve had a great inside area staffed with a knowledgable employee. There were several areas inside highlighting the plants, flowers, reptiles, insects, etc.

First trip to one of the first prominent peaks in Georgia. The parking lot and facilities are really nice with decent signage. The Indian seats are about 3/4 of a mile hike with some decent elevation changes. Maybe - 300-400 ft but nothing too serious. The trail is really well maintained. On a clear day the Indian seats have one of the best panoramic views of the North Georgia mountains anywhere. You can see Springer, Blood, Brasstown Bald, and Yonah mountain. Basically you see the outline of the Ga Appalachian trail. I didn't have much time to hike around the rest of the summit but will go back at some point to explore. Not far from Cumming and the outlet malls in Dawnsonville. It was later in the evening and I didn't see any parking fees.

Awesome sunrise view. Sunset view is even more beautiful. Just remember to take a flashlight to come down after sunset. Must be beautiful with fall colors in a couple weeks.

Normally, we are all over the hiking scene. Recently moving from the mountains in North Georgia, we are disappointed to say we cannot use this location in our own backyard. Why? It’s not dog friendly. After emailing the city, they let us know that we too would see the benefit of not having dogs on the path. Well, it’s been 6 months, still not seeing a benefit.

This is a very nice park to go for a free day out. The nature center at the base of the mountain is free, and so is the hike. One side of the park is slightly easier (the actual mountain side) since the trails are well worn and level. The other side has a playground but is a lot more rugged and steep, and it takes longer, but is still very enjoyable. There is an observation deck at the top of the mountain and the views are incredible! Would not be a good place to go with really young kids, strollers, or wheelchairs.

The trail to the top of the mountain is a nice hike. When you get to the top you will be rewarded with a nice view of the north GA mountains.

This is a moderate to beginner hike up to the “Indian Seats” which overlooks the countryside and beautiful farms. There is a more difficult trail, but either is only 2 miles up and 2 miles back. If you go after a rainy day, better to take the easier trail. The top has a viewing platform which has benches to relax and take in the view. The Indian Seats, (rocks) actually has carvings. There is a plaque explaining the history of this rock formation. Parents have to watch their kids carefully, as there is a way to get under the rocks by a path, but it could be dangerous, as there is no guardrail.

Highly recommend place to visit! Take their map if coming for the first time. It is very helpful. Beautiful views from the top of mountain.

The nature center is great for children. The trail up to the top is an easy to moderate walk. My 6 year old grandson did it! Bring a picnic and enjoy the views of North Georgia

Fun to hike locally and catch some great views! Family friendly and you can mix up which trail you take. I wish you could take pets, but understand.

My sons went to a climbing camp during their fall break from school. I took a quick hike but did not explore all trails. Everything meticulously maintained and preserved.

Nice place to walk and enjoy nature! I think what I have written sums it up nicely so why write more.

Such a fun place to hike and a wonderful view from the “Indian Seats” at the top. I just wish they would allow dogs.

Great place for a hike, well marked trails in a beautiful setting! Wonderful way to spend a few hours!

Great set of trails for light hiking and general exercise with a nice view at the top. Nice restroom that sometimes comes in handy.

If you want a great little hike for a beautiful view, then go to Sawnee Mountain Preserve. On the other side of the mountain is the visitor center. When I was a scout troop leader, the girls and I hiked up to the top of Sawnee Mountain several times. It is about a three mile hike round trip. At the top, there are somewhat carved stones called "Cherokee Seats". These seats were where Native Americans in this region used to observe travelers below. The place is filled with legends and history. The nice part is the close proximity to the down town part of Cumming, Georgia. It is just a couple miles off the beaten path. They also have picnic tables and a small play ground near the parking lot and restrooms.

Good access from 2 different entrances. Both have bathroom facilities. Relatively good trail markings. Accurate maps.

PSA: This is the only park in the state that will fine you for having a dog.
I'm not talking about one who bites or is off leash, just any dog at all (unless it's a service animal and you have docs).
They have a few signs, but they are super easy to miss on the walk from the car to the trailhead.
The walk itself is nice enough, but not worth a $145 fine for having a well behaved dog that's on leash the whole time. Also, the stone Forsyth County court will only take payments in person, does not offer telecourt, and only entertains reschedules if requested in writing to their judge (first Tuesdays of the month only, roughly 14 day turnaround).
Here's your star.

Whether you have a couple of hours or all day, Sawnee Mountain is a great place to go. The trail leading to the "Indian Seats" is manageable for the entire family with pretty views and a place to rest at the top. There are also pavilions, a playground, nature/visitor center, and amphitheater.

It's a great place to take in the scenes near the Indian Seats and look around Cumming, especially in the fall and get to see all the color changes. There are a few trails around the mountain, all depending upon how long you walk to hike. There's also a little guest center where you can see the bees that come in from outside.

Great place, lots of history here, great views of the areas around. . trails can be easy or hard, takes a day to hike or walk either way.

They need more parking but I think they are working on that. It's a great hike with a breathtaking spot for pictures at the top. Enjoy!

really nice place to go for a few hours and climb ,see vistas ,natural beauty occasional animals ,get some exercise

Great four mile hike! Nice, safe, quiet trail with good view at the top.It is very well maintained and clean. Visitor center has restrooms and map. Highly reccommend!

My husband and I hike the mountain often...several times a week. The new section hasn't opened yet. We start at the Tribble Gap Road entrance and take the 2.5 mile hike up to the Indian Seats and back down. It's always beautiful.

Great hike on we'll maintained trails. Facilities and picnic area near the parking lot were inviting. The hike up the mountain treated us all to great views. Spectacular with fall colors.

This is a great area for a family outing. Nice and easy climb to top plus a very nice park facility.

We absolutely love hiking here! It's an easy hike for the kids and the view is absolutely breathtaking - anytime of year. There's also a nature center and a small pond with fish for the kids. This place is great for all ages.

Visited here with my brother. what a great place close to the city to get away from it all. clean and well maintained trails on overlook. a very family friendly area with not to steep of trails. great for parents with kids 5 and up to walk the trails on their own. the view is lovely.

The hike is ok but nothing spectacular. Then you suddenly come out into a clearing with an incredible view, observation deck and even little paths to walk to some natural rock seats that everyone calls the Indian seats. Once you're at the top you do not want to leave it is so beautiful.

The hike is easy and has a beautiful view with seating at the top. Unfortunately they don't allow dogs. We saw multiple snakes on our trip. There are multiple start points, but we only tried one.

My husband and I enjoyed hiking the mountain and there is a great view at the top. The welcome center was very nice and the staff was very friendly.

This hike was an easy and fun hike. Through the week there is very little activity, but it can very hectic on the weekends with nice weather. It is the perfect time to visit with the changing of the leaves.

Trail is family friendly and safe. Only wish they had restrooms and water fountains at the top of the trail. The view from the top is real nice.

This is a great place for a hike if you or your companions aren't really hardcore. Beautiful view from the top. Well visited, but rarely too crowded.

Wonderful workout, love the history here, and we feel this spot is a local treasure. Interesting, because there are goldmines still here, you'll find caves with GATES on them. Look closely while walking the paths.

This is a great spot for an afternoon hike ! Super convenient drive for those of us living in the city. It gets a bit crowded as can be expected, but still worth going. Would be a perfect area for watching the sunset on a date, or getting in some exercise. The trails are all maintained very well and the visitors center is nice.

took daughter and grandkids on a weekend hike and I must say that I was pleasently surprised with the hike and the view.

My family enjoys the hike to the top to see the view from the Indian Seats. You can make the hike as challenging or as leisurely as you want. Not recommended for toddlers unless you plan on carrying them most of the way. Roots and dips make it nearly impossible for a stroller or chair.

Had such a great time sharing this beautiful resource with friends! We all hiked the mountain (just 1mile up & 1mike down). Nice time. Afterward had a great pizza feast.

Great easy trail to the Indian seats. Lots of rocks to lounge on while waiting for the sun to set. Gorgeous views for miles.

Beautiful place to hike. The trail is not terribly difficult and the view is well worth the walk. At the top of the trail there are the Indian Seats that offer a spectacular view of farmland and the areas surrounding the mountain. The mountain has a rich history and a person can get lost in the quite beauty of nature. The park offers picnic areas and pavilions for groups.

I was told this was a place to give with great views, but what I hoped was through a trail and trees. Really wasn't no scenic views. No dogs were allowed.

the view is amazing
well worth the trip
NO DOGS ALLOWED
good portion of trail shaded
havent been on the new section of the trail

The view from top is beautiful. Its total 5 miles moderate hike. We went their in late fall season & could see fall colors

A wonderful Cumming gem of a park! The hike up the mountain will be a bit of a challenge if you've enjoyed a close relationship with your couch, but it is worth it even if you go slow. The park has multiple picnic areas and a nice educational area on the opposite side of the mountain. A relaxing, family park. My only negative is banning dogs since mine are my usual hiking buddies, but otherwise is a great park.

Excellent facility to run or hike. Summit of mtn are the indian seats or worn stone that overlooks the mtn vistas to the north

This was a nice 1.5 mile hike to a good view. It was rocky and rooty but manageable. Steep in a very short stint. It was a bit confusing which route to take for the shorter hike. Clean restrooms

If your looking for and easier hike up a mountain, this is it. On the way up are little fairy houses and a lot of wild life, the view from the top is unbelievable. Staff are pleasant and knowledgable.

This is a very nice peaceful place to go for a leisurely day. The hiking is very good! The scenery is just Beautiful.

Always incredible. Love the place and a hot spot for young teens and school kids in the area. You will see all types of people using the trails and it’s just an awesome place to walk alone or with family and friends. Enjoy this spot!

There are several hikes ranging from <1mi to over 4mi. Bit of history from the old gold mine and indian seats (stone overlooks) as well as a good view towards the Georgia mountains with a map showing the named peaks. No dogs and very family friendly. I like that it makes a loop with several short cuts to customized the hike based on time and ability. Recommend for a good local mountain-like hike in Cumming.

This is a great venue - it is totally free and there are two entrances: Bettis Tribble Gap Road entrance and Spot Road entrance. Both places have bathrooms, trail maps and water fountains, but the Spot Road entrance has a discovery center also. The hike up to the "Indian Seats" is easiest from the Bettis Tribble Gap Road side. Beautiful view! A more challenging hike (sometimes is moderately challenging) is to approach the Indian Seats from the Spot Road entrance. It is about 2 miles to the top from the parking lot. The undergrowth is not thick, so you need not to worry if you are hiking alone - you don't feel alone. There are lots of people there from all age groups doing the exact same thing you are - enjoying Mother Nature! All without your pups as they are not allowed!

Moderate 5 mile hike up and down the mountain brings you just a little closer to heaven! Make sure you wear your hiking shoes as it is a bit rocky!

NO PETS ALLOWED, which is an absolutely ridiculous rule. What kind of people agree to rules like this? Way to ruin an experience.

This was a wonderful moderately easy hike for the entire family. Winding through the trees as you travel up to the indian seats made it a comfortable height.

It is very pretty here and if you climb to the top of the Indian seats you will get a nice view.I love taking pics here in the fall. They also have an outdoor theatre area and kids playground though small.

There is a long hike and short hike but they both end at the same spot. The long side has a cool fort the kids can play in.

This is a nice, easy hike- great for families with kids. Great spots for a picnic and a playground at the entrance. Only downfall is that the park doesn't allow dogs. We assumed that we could hike with our dog (what park wouldn't allow dogs, after all) but got there to find that they aren't allowed. So, we had to turn around, drop the dog off back at home and return to the park about an hour later. Nice enough but there are much better parks in GA than Sawnee.

Great hike. Approximately 7 miles with nice views. Carry some water as there is nothing once you reach the top.

I have visited the Preserve many times since moving to Cumming in 09. It is a great destination for families with young children as there is a nice park with amble playground equipment for them to enjoy. Visitor center entrance to the park, hosts a tree house, also fun for the young and young at heart. Trails are well marked and have a few steep places. The view from Indian Seats at the top is beautiful no matter what season it is. Restrooms at Triple Gap entrance by the playground and starting points for many trails. Bring plenty of water , a wonderful place for a picnic. Enjoy!

My kids love this easy and fun hike to the top! Beautiful panoramic view of the North Georgia mountains.

This is a great little hike or trail run. You can make it as short as 2 miles or stretch it out by completing both sides of trail. Either way the trail is well marked and very shady making it a nice hike even in summer months. It is very pretty in the morning though. The trail head at Bette’s Triple Gap by the amipitheatre is my favorite access point. If you just want to spend an hour and get to the top, Indian seats, stay to the right and follow the trail. It’s the fastest way up to the vantage point. Watch carefully and you will be likely to spot a deer, tortoise or even the fox who likes to roam the mountain. The old mine enterance is also a cool site on the trail if you head to the left. There are clean restrooms by the parking lot. No dogs and no bikes on this trail.

Great place to spend the Saturday morning. The trail is just exhilarating. The views are majestic and I have started seeing my home differently now. We are lucky to be living in Alpharetta.
Highly recommended

Been here couple times. Its a beautiful place to visit. It starts with the trail which leads to the top called Indian Seats and the view from up there is marvelous. Its a relatively short walk to the top, so almost anyone can do it. Definitely recommend everyone to visit this place at least once!

Nice trails and views from top of Sawnee Mountain. Great playground with clean restrooms and covered pavilion for picnicking. Our Boy Scout troop enjoys using the amphitheater for troop award ceremonies in the summer.

This is a fun hike to the Indian Seats which are at the top of the mountain and give a great view of the north end of Forsyth County and the Appalachian Mountains in the distance. Their is a short trail you can walk or a longer one which can take a couple of hours. Be sure to look at the map before you leave and bring water with you.

Great place to hike, not hard at all beautiful view especially at sunrise or sunset. bathrooms were clean

This park has transformed into a main Forsyth county attraction in the past 20 years so it does get crowded. Those who walked this trail to the indian seats before there were any park signs will find that the path is routed a completely different way. The view is fantastic and as good as you will get in FOCO. The Indian Seats legend is worth hearing and is bittersweet considering this land was taken from the Cherokee. We came to eat lunch on a Sunday in late October in one of the pavilions which are usually for rent. Since it was empty we ate our lunch and used the facilities which were clean and unlocked. The pavilion area is handicap accessible but the trails are not. I did not take part in any of the other attractions this park has, which are many and can be found on the Parks and Rec site.

It's okay, nothing to leave your trip to see. It's just a nice little place on the way to the vets. It is kept up, nice people work there and it is a part of nature.

We love Shawnee Mountain Preserve. We live about 10 minutes from there and love to take the short hike with our young children. Beautiful view. There is also a great new playground.

Super time and just a short hike to killer views. The north side of the mountain is very picturesque...you can see hundreds of miles.

Several hiking trails at the actual Preserve and across the road which is also part of the preserve. It is Forsyth County's best kept secret. The Indian Seats are a must see. The hike to the top of the mountain is not hard and the view from the top is worth the effort.

Sawnee Mountain Preserve is about 10 minutes from my house, yet I feel worlds away when I go. The hike is nice with some steep parts but nothing unmanageable. If you go early in the morning you beat any "crowds" and it tends to be even more peaceful. The view at the top is absolutely beautiful. It's amazing to think that this is so close to my "backyard."

Had a great time hiking up this mountain with my 8 year old and her Girl Scout troop. It was about a 30 minute walk up. It was fairly easy. Outstanding views from the top. I highly recommend it. There is also a playground in the parking area.

Lucked out with some nice weather in February and took to the hiking trails of Sawnee Mountain. Enjoyed a brisk walk up the mountain to the Indian Seats for a lovely view below of Forsyth County.

This is a very nice, easy hike. ( I have a bad knee and managed fine.) Though the time of year and time of day must have taken all the birds elsewhere, I enjoyed the beauty of the textures and dormant forest. My guess is that it is well-traveled since I saw 8-10 other walkers mid-day in February. When the Spring brings everything back to life I imagine it is even more popular.
The only puzzling part was a "fairy village" stretch sponsored by a local girl scout troop, strewn with plastic pieces, aluminum, and painted wooden houses. Being from Maine, fairy houses are popular along hiking trails there as well but the mindset is much more ecologically friendly, with signs inviting people to use only what is readily available in the forest. It looks like the kids had fun along this trail but I would rather adults take the opportunity to teach the children about caring for our natural resources responsibly.
My rating of 3/5 is mostly due to the litter of the fairy section, otherwise, it looks like a great spot for a day hike.
CAUTION: The sign at the entrance says dogs are not allowed but the sign at the trailhead says dogs must be leashed. I saw a doggy on a leash so, I'm not sure what to tell you?
Tree course and zipline fun plus a climbing wall look like a great activity.

Early morning hike to the top was awesome. The view from the top is worth the effort. I took the original trail . New trails have been built on the other side of the road.

I have lived in the area for three years and discovered Sawnee Mountain with the first few months of moving. The main loop is about four miles and very worn, so you will never feel like you have gotten off of the trail. The main building has operating hours, but the bathroom and drinking fountains are in a section that remain unlocked most of the daylight hours (and are always very clean). There is a lot of parking. They have also recently adding a climbing wall. I do believe there are summer camps at the park for children to learn about different aspects of outdoors. There is a second rest area location along the trail with parking, bathrooms, and water fountains. I go to this trail multiple times a week and find it very peaceful but also am able to get an hour+ of exercise.

There are two parking lots. One starts about half way up the mountain, the other (which includes the visitors center) is at the bottom. The view from the overlook is GREAT!

This is a must do if you are in the area. I hike here often with my small children (9,7,5 and 1 year old in a hiking bag) and while it challenges them, it's doable. You will rewarded with a great view of the area at the top. No dogs are allowed, so be mindful of that.

This is an awesome county maintained trail in the heart of Cumming with breathtaking views of North Georgia! There are facilities at both parking areas. This is a very popular place on the weekends so the trails can be crowded. There are some trails around the bottom and connecting the trails up so you can vary it up. 2 main ways up the mountain. I can't believe this is so close to Cumming and you don't have to go all the way to the mountains to get in a good hike with great views. No facilities at the top--bring water. Allow 1.5 hours from the Spot Road parking lot and 1 hour from the Bettis Tribble Gap parking lot. Must do!!

I love this park and all of the trails. The Indian Seat is nice to see and the view is awesome. The backside trail is fun with it's changing elevations and scenery. There is lots to do at this preserve for people of all ages

I've lived in GA my entire life but had never heard of or been to this spot. They have a few different hikes varying in distance and intensity. My husband and I chose a longer hike, about 5 miles. We definitely got our workout and it was awesome!! Some pretty things to see here and there...mainly cool trees. But no water, creek, waterfalls or spectacular views from the path we took. Can't wait to go back and try the other trails! Oh and the lady at the park office is extremely helpful and kind. This place is a hidden gem ;)

I usually do the full loop of the hike every couple of weeks. There are a couple of trails here, ranging from easy to moderate. If you take the full loop, it becomes fairy steep in spots, but it's a relaxing hike. Take your time - you'll enjoy the peace and quiet. At peak times, voices from the playground at one of the entrances carry upward to the top, but it's been mostly quiet every time I've gone. There are restroom facilities at both parking lots.

A short and easy hike just outside of town.
When you want to get out of town and into nature without spending hours on the road.

Sawnee Mountain preserve has a very nice nature trail which loops back to visitor center. The trail is well maintained and winds through upland hardwood forest . The view from Indian Seats is spectacular. Very nice change of pace , just outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown

took us about an hour to reach the summit. not too strenuous yet vista afforded an excellent view. we were the only ones there, and the solitude was a blessing. great little day hike, short with a rewarding finale.

The trails are nice. Park is very clean and kept up well. This is a Very serene place to come and enjoy nature.

Pretty boring trails. No dogs allowed for some unknown reason. Not much of a park. Drove 40 minutes there and wasn't about to leave my dog in the car while I went hiking. Rangers were waiting for us after and fined me $134. Ranger was ride and couldn't explain why it was a rule even though no one complains about them. The hiking and general forest is pretty basic and boring. Would not go back.

Well maintained park, with improved trails. It's not like being in the North Georgia Mountain wilderness, but it's in the Atlanta metro area. Makes for a great after work escape or a quick get away during the week-end. It's a good work-out uphill, but the views from the top are worth the effort. One negative, no doggies allowed.

We took the whole family up to the park for a walk. At the top of the mountain are the indian seats. The path from the visitors center is a bit longer than the other parking lot, but on days when it is open it is worth a visit. On a previous visit we went into the center and were able to see some of the wildlife that inhabits the area, as well as a live bee hive in the building wall covered by glass. At the top of the mountain, it is relaxing to sit on the indian seats and take in the view with a cool updraft coming of the cliffs. The view from the top is relaxing, we even ran into school friends of our children. Great day out.

My husband and I really like to hike up the big mountain. It is a pleasant easy hike but there are some strenuous parts - also there are Indian Seats at the top where you can sit and look out over the surrounding countryside.

This was our first visit, and didn't really understand how to access the trails or what we were trying to see. Hikers coming down from the trail were helpful, and guided us to the shorter of the trails from the parking lot to the Indian seats. We are mid 60s and go to the gym regularly - it was a bit of a challenge! The dirt path is absolutely riddled with rocks of various sizes and small tree stumps, and it was a pretty good incline. It took us 35 minutes to reach the summit, which was beautiful, of course. The 20 minute hike back down was easy, however, as another reviewer warned, take a flashlight if you think you will be there close to sundown. The wooded path is much darker than outlying areas. And as you might imagine, the mosquitoes started coming out on the way down. Don't get me wrong - we will go again! Just be prepared.

Nice views and a good trail. No crowed most of the time. Clean with squirrels and stuff...filling the character limit...

We have hiked here and the visited the visitor center. The kids took a course this fall here - tree climbing and zip lining - and it was a great value and the kids had a blast. The oak trees here were amazing for them to climb. The ladies in the visitor center will answer questions and give recommendations and maps based on what you are looking to do. Everyone is very nice and the facilities are clean.

The park is well maintained with enough parking spaces. The visitors center and bathrooms are clean. We did the hike to the "Indian Seats" and the trail was maintained without much litter. Thank you "Sawnee Mountain Preserve"

Sawnee Mountain has wonderful hiking trails with incredible views. There is also a nature center to visit, a playground and picnic area. We hike there several times a month and love it.

Two trails - Sawnee Mountain side is a 5-miler that's steep in a few places. The other side is a 3-miler with a nice overlook at the top - The Indian Seats. No pets allowed. Definitely the best hiking in the area...

Truly a treasure in Forsyth county. We hiked the trail all the way yo the top with two young grandsons. The view was worth the hike. Now more trails are opened off of Tribble Gap Road. A beautiful place to spend an afternoon.

Visited the trails here, nice little park, steep hike, great views, there is a very nice park facility. But leave your pets at home.

The hike to the Indian Seats is awesome. The views from up there are amazing! The hike is not too bad...meaning you don't have to be in the best shape to do it :) There's also a playground at the other entrance (not the welcome center) and some great picnic tables. The Welcome Center is nice. But the Indian Seats are truly the reason to go here!!!

Great place to hike on a beautiful clear day. This place has a great learning center for old and young people to enjoy. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Place offers many types of hikes, so hikers of all abilities can enjoy a day out. The only down fall is that no dogs are allowed in the park, which is understandable as some path are very narrow and steep. We always saved the playground as a special treat upon completion of the hike. As the kids got older, they made it a competition who could get it to the Indian Seats first. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. This is also a great place to come out and do some star gazing during the week. Weekends are typically the busiest.

Had heard about the Indian Seats and always wondered where they were - now we know. Not an overly strenous walk and well worth the time spent. Great view from the top. Recommended.

Great for all activity levels, start on the far side if you want a short hike, start from the visitor's center if you would like a more challenging hike. Or there is a whole new section to try.

My brother and I like to hike and since he has not hiked at Sawnee Mountain Preserve before, I decided to take him hiking there this weekend. The Preserve is located in Cumming.
There are three hiking trails, two of which are easy, mainly because they are flat. The third trail, which leads to Indian Seats, is a little bit more difficult, but is well worth the difficulty as it gives you the best view at the end. Most people take pictures of the view at the end.
The Indian Seats trail is nearly a 3-mile loop. In terms of difficulty, there is some elevation changes as you go up the mountain. You will need to pay attention during the hike as there are small to medium-size rocks, sandy areas, and sometimes, trees in the middle of the trail that you will need to walk around. It is very easy to lose your footing if you are not paying attention, or if you are attempting to run. Sneakers should give you enough stability on this trail, but hiking boots would be better.
The Preserve is well-maintained. Parking is free. Hiking the trails is free. There is no trash on the trail. The Preserve has directional signs for each trail. The restroom facilities available are decent. The visitor center has more information about The Preserve.
I would highly recommend hiking here.

Nice family hike Took the grandkids up there with us not too hard great view trails are well kept the visitors center Is well-managed

I regularly visit Sawnee Mountain to trail run, both the original Preserve, and the new section across the road (I am not sure if it has a different name or not). Not only do I run there, but I also walk with my family, getting children all the way to the top ensures that they are worn out by the time they get to the bottom! Forsyth Parks do a great job maintaining all of the parks in the County, many thanks to all who work there!

This is a great hiking trails with awesome views once you reach the peak of the mountain. Very clean and well marked paths.

This past weekend we left Atlanta to enjoy the nice weather outside the city. We looked online and found the Sawnee Mountain Preserve about an hour north, a place we hadn't hiked before. It has been raining for a few weeks so I was expecting the potential for some muddy hikes, which is why we avoided low lying trails or any of the creek trails in the area. So we ended up doing the Indian Seats Trail, a 3.5-4 mile loop hike that takes you to the summit of Sawnee Mountain.
As it was the first nice weekend in a while, and the first weekend of the new year, I was not surprised to see a lot of people on the trails. I would expect any trails within close proximity to a city to have some crowds in these conditions. So if you are not fond of crowds you may not love this trail as much. With that being said, the crowds were only congested at the summit, where everyone is trying to go and look out. But there are a decent amount of boulders to rest and take in the view, even with a lot of people. On the trails everyone was better spread out and we only bottle-necked once maneuvering around some muddy spots and an oblivious small group.
Overall I enjoyed this hike. I have seen some people call it an easy hike, and others call it a moderate hike. I would cut the difference and say it is easy-to-moderate, but maybe leaning towards easy. It has a couple inclines, but much of it is gradual. And there are no tricky spots or climbing to worry about. There are also multiple trail options so you don't have to do the full loop.
We took about 2 hours, and that's with some rest at the summit and my wife having just had surgery a few weeks ago. So maybe plan for 1-3 hours depending on your pace.
One final note, the parking lot can get full when busy. We had no problem finding a spot when we got there after lunch but when we were returning to the car there was a line of cars trying to wait for people to leave to take their spots. There are however a couple trail heads with parking lots so know where to find them before you go.

Great to do in fall when the leaves are changing. A place to relax and get away from daily stress. One thing I don't like about Sawnee Mountain Preserve is that you can't take your furry friend along. I would feel much safer walking through the woods with my loyal friend and we would both have a workout together.

Sawnee offers classes for children and adults. The also have several hiking trails that give a great view and are a good workout.

One of the things I love about travel is the geographical distinctiveness of a region. I'm a trail runner so whenever I visit somewhere new one of my first questions is, 'where are great trails?' Sawnee was the recommendation. It was fantastic! It's historic with the honor paid to Chief Sawnee (which is a cool story) and has miles of trails in decent condition - some roots and rocks to pay attention to, but really interesting flora and fauna. I felt like I was 'somewhere else.' It was that distinct. I was there in spring so it was especially beautiful with the natural rhododendron blooming. And when you reached the top of Sawnee the view was spectacular. It provides a beautiful panorama of the area. BTW it's a decent trek to the top, but it's not overly taxing. The incline on the trail isn't excessive at any point so the top is accessible to a wide range of hikers and runners. Enjoy, I sure did!

Great hike, not difficult both of my children under 10 handled it easily. The trail is full of tree roots so be careful. Beautiful views from the Indian seats.

This is a beautiful place to hike with awesome views. The hiking is fairly easy with a solid trail to follow. Great place to either hike alone or with family/friends.

Tons of trails to explore and hike for all levels of endurance. The Indian seats are a great vantage point and quite rewarding to see when you make it to the top of the mountain.

A great place to hike I enjoy going up to Indian Seats most of the hike is in the shade. The view at top is awesome. Not to strenuous and the kids enjoyed it also.

We took a sunset hike after renting jetskis and topped off the best saturday ever! Our family is in their early 60s in good shape. They did not have any problems.

It is a relatively short trail. 4 mi for the whole loop.
It's a little tough since you are going up hill but once you make it to the top, after almost 2 mi. It'll be completely worth it!
Don't leave this for a weekend trip since it'll be crowded, it is great for a morning hike too!

This is a jewel for learning about the history and environment of the area around Sawnee Mountain. It is an excellent stepping off point for a trek up the mountain, and is a good place to observe and learn about native plants.

Beautiful views, and fun nature trails. Weather was perfect, as we took one of the shorter walking paths. Very informative. The "receptionist ranger" was very pleasant, and helpful.

The east side of the park has an older playground, mini nature trails, amphitheater, steep trails to the summit overlook and indian seats while the west has a more modern playground "could use a shade awning", and a long 4-5 miles loop trail with a gentle slope.

This is a perfect hike for families. The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular! The climb is an easy one for those not accustomed to hiking uphill.

Beautiful views! Several hiking options. Can take short hike if younger kids. Playground on both Sides of Bettis Trimble Gap. Fun to hike to the Indian Seats- great views.

Excellent area to hike for adults & kids. Hiking trails from Spot Rd or Tribble Gap are great. Looking forward to when trails are connected to Big Creek Greenway. Climbing the big tree at Spot Rd entrance provides quite an adventure for birthday parties.

This park is really nice. Not at all crowded, but very well maintained. The trail was long and easy, and the hike was beautiful. Once you get to the top of the mountain the views are magnificent especially now with all the fall colors! There are no food facilities though, so take your own food and drink. They had a cute fairy trail where you get to see lots of hand-made fairy homes. Very adorable and interesting. Plus they also have a really cool treehouse. Plus if you're into it, they also have a ropes course.

I enjoy visiting this mountain and hiking the trails. The trails can be a little challenging for the younger children because of tree roots and rocks in the path but it is definitely doable. It's also a great place for a peaceful picnic. The playground is great and restrooms are clean.

This preserve has great hiking trails, and the view from the top is great! The top has an area called Indian seats. That is a great place to relax after the hike up the moutain.

Amazing trails and views. Trails for all hiking levels. Beautiful, serene place to spend the entire day. You won't be disappointed.

if you are walking or runner the trails are well maintained, wide
If you need hill work you will get a good workout
Nice view from the top at the seats
be sure to take a bottle of water

No matter if your a serious hiker or just out for a bit of exercise this park has it for you !!
There are a couple of different trails for you to choose from depending how much you want to bite off. But the view from the Indian Seats at the top make the hike well worth it !! Note though no dogs are allowed at this Preserve. Enjoy

IIf you need an amazing local area hike Sawnee Mountain Preserve is for you. The opportunity to be at the Indian Seat and enjoy the view makes the short hike worth it. If you want a good run the trail is in excellent condition and the altitude will give you a great cardio workout.

Enjoy taking my kids on a hike at Sawnee Mountain. We usually hike up and take in the scenery. We typically stop by a Dairy Queen for a frosty after.

Beautiful place for a hike. We took four of our grandchildren along and they loved it. We got quite often and never get tired of it.

What a great hike. With the options to hike both sides of the road or just one. The hike has hills so it gives a variety of challenge but nothing strenuous.
It's well maintained and easy to follow the trail. The views at the top are gorgeous. It doesn't take long so a great way to start a Saturday morning.

The steepness of the trails isn't too challenging, but the rocks and roots on it are. You have to constantly look down as you walk to avoid tripping. Very uneven in many places. Take a walking stick if you can. We'll worth the walk to the top for the views for fifty miles. Take food and drink, a book or hammock to rest and enjoy the views. Lots of big rocks to sit and relax on.

Almost in my backyard but you feel as though you have gone somewhere. A beautiful and not a difficult hike up to the Indian seats. The view from there is spectacular. Very nice facilities. No dogs allowed though! Would be a great place to hike with the pooch.

Went on a sunny spring day. Nice trails and easier than anticipated. Beautiful view from the top. Worth a weekend hike. Will be back.

Today I finally got to see the Indian Seats on Sawnee Mountain. I have heard about them for my entire life. Now that there is a park and nice trails, it is accessible to just about anyone. We went in through the Bettis Tribble Gap entrance and hiked the loop that is about 3.5 miles. The trail was not too steep. Just watch where you are stepping, because of roots and the rocks. The trails are clearly marked and we picked up a map at the entrance. Great day for a hike and the view is well worth the walk! There are restrooms and playgrounds at the parking area. Some new trails have opened up across Bettis Tribble Gap, so we may try them next time. It you want a different hike to the Indian Seat, you can go to the Spot Road Entrance and go up.

Sawnee Mt. Preserve is a very confusing place. There are two parts of it: the Indian Seat part is at its north part, the trail is shorter, about 2-3 miles, the south part has larger parking lot, and playground and other facilities, the mountainside loop trail is about 5 miles, no visitor center. The two parts are separated by Bettis Tribble Gap Rd. Both parts are excellent for families, but south part is less favored by photographers.
I usually go to the south part for hiking. To start correctly, you need to find the trailhead near the entrance, not the one near playground, that's exit. My favorite route is twisted loop like 8, total is about 6.1-6.3 miles. If you really enjoy hiking, you will love it. This is my preparatory site for AT.
In the shadows of corona virus, I was not expecting many visitors, to my surprise , the parking lot was almost full, I was glad to see many enthusiastic hikers like me, we will get over the dark moments together by not talking to each other:)

Nice park for a leisurely walk/hike in a convenient to Cumming location. Can get a little crowded up top although plenty of areas to get away.

So last weekend we tested the waters with a shorter hike...today we did this hike which was 4 miles round trip (we parked at the visitors center). The babies did great, a couple of scraped knees..which we also noticed almost every group we passed at least one person had cuts on their legs/knees etc. Lots of rocks on the trails and some areas were a little eroded, just use caution and a walking stick. It was very active, people of all ages wandering the trails. Several photo opportunities along the way. The end is worth it, beautiful. All in all, we did it in 3 hours. This is with 3 two year olds walking, stopping, falling, and us taking in the reward at the top.
Living in the city you forget we have such beauty so close!

Sawnee Mountain is located in Cumming. When we arrived at the park, little did we kno we took the easy short hike to the top, it only took us like ten minutes to get on top. I am glad we came early because although there were people there, it was not packed, the weather was beautiful. We're Asians, we wanted to take plenty of photos.
There were some scary parts. One slip and good bye. Even though, I've gone skydiving before, just the thought of falling down still haunts me as I did look down from the edge of the rocks. The top is stunning but something about mountains versus waterfalls for an overall hike.
After taking our million photos, we decided to complete the full trail since that ten minutes hike up didn't help us with our fitness. It is roughly two miles, unpaved, dirt and tree roots trail. To us, it was an easy hike overall. I would definitely come back.

Parking is difficult with not enough spaces. The hike was fun. Paths are clear and easy for young kids. Brought a pack with drinks and snacks to have at the top. Fun free day adventure

Nice trails with good variety. Old gold pit mines, some really nice Native American history (the Indian Seats) and the view from the top - fantastic!!! Something to see and do for the whole family. Check their web site for special attractions!

It's a beautiful view with a pretty easy hike. If you're looking for family friendly this is the hike to go on.

Took advantage of a Saturday afternoon and hiked to the top. It took us about an hour to get to the top with a few stops along the way. Great view at the top! Very nice hike!!

We’ve been here before but love this trail. It’s a short hike, but moderate. You go up to the top and can take a picnic or just enjoy the beautiful views! It’s incredible at sunset! Enjoy!

This is a very well maintained trail up Sawnee Mountain, with options for those who need an easier hike and for those who are ready for a tougher hike. We started up the loop from the bottom, where there is an information station with restrooms and trail maps, and a rocking chair porch. A little way up, the the trail divided, and we went to the right (we were told this was the easier of the two). I think that it was a mile and a half all the way to the overlook at the top, and then loops around to bring you back to the spot where the trail divided. We came back down the same side. A few of our group chose to begin hiking a little further up the mountain, where there is a paved parking lot and restrooms. Their hike was, I believe, a half mile to the overlook. This is not a paved trail, and it does get steep in places. The view from the top is splendid, and well worth the hike, whichever one you choose.

Hiked the trail from the Visitors Center in about 2 hours. Beautiful view from the top, needed to watch the trail because of loose rocks and roots.

Loved the welcome center, make sure you go in and look around and also visit the koi pond. The hike was really nice, beautiful views at the top. If you don't want to do the entire hike from the bottom you can park partway up and the hike from that point is less than a mile. Bring a bottle of water and wear good hiking shoes, it is pretty rocky.

With 7 adults, one teenager and a 1 year old on her father's back, a great time was had, climbing Sawnee mountain on Christmas Sunday. It was a fairly steep climb, but along the way we greeted many other hikers out to enjoy the day. The views at the top made the effort worthwhile... Along with the great memories made and captured on cameras. We took our time... Trails were a little Slippery from rain and covered with rock and leaves. We ranged in age from 1 year to 70...Did it in 1 1/2 hours. A beautiful place... what ever the season... And it is FREE!!
NOTE: NO DOGS ALLOWED..

Was driving by with a friend and we stopped. Love the area and the facility here is really nice. They have great information about the area and the types of animals you’ll find!

I am lucky to live close by so I visit here often. Great for the kids and all nature lovers! Very updated and clean. Great events.

nicely maintained trails, with a variety lengths and difficulty. excellent view from top of the mountain.

The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is located in Cumming, GA (Forsyth County) and is worthwhile to visit. They have a welcome center at one entrance on Spot Rd, and another entrance on Tribble Gap Rd with pavilions and rest rooms, plus a little amphitheatre for classroom groups. You have to reserve a pavilion because this is a popular site for kids' birthday parties. There is also a playground.
At the Spot Rd entrance, there is a Welcome Center with docents ready to teach you a few things about the center, its purpose, its education programs, and of course their hiking trails. They have trails throughout the Preserve that can accommodate different levels of hiking. There is no fee to visit the Welcome Center or to take a hike in the fresh air to the top of the mountain.

I have lived in Forsyth county for a few years and have never visited here before now. Wow, really wish I had... Trails are in need of some up keep, ( but we liked the natural feel of the landscape) and dogs are not allowed- I have two dogs but I kinda enjoyed that they are not allowed. I took my 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter up the trail to see the top and we had such a wonderful time enjoying nature. We had such a good time we went to visit the center, fairy trail, and the tree house!

It is a relatively strenuous hike, about 1-2 miles up the mountain, depending on which way you go, but the view is worth it. There is now seating up there, so do not skip this. Maybe bring lunch or a drink to spend some time up top.

There was a lovely large statue of Sawnee at the visitor center, as well as an indoor bee hive and koi pond. So peaceful. We also enjoyed the children's play and picnic area at one of the trailheads on Bettis-Tribble Gap Road. Surprised there was a drink vending machine. Great place for a picnic.

I went for a presentation for a program I was in. We went to Sawnee Mountain and the experience was amazing. It was only bolstered by the view we had from the Indian seats.

This Preserve/park is ideal for hiking either moderately strenuous or an easy walk. Depends on where you want to go. The trails are rough and not improved very much. To see the overlook will require a good hike up the hill over roots and rocks. I recommend a walking stick to make your go a little easier, no climbing required. Beautiful view once on top. Great photo map to help you get oriented as to where you are.
Very Nice restroom facilities at the parking area.

A friend and I did this hike with our younger children (late elementary school/middle school age). Short, easy hike (maybe 20 minutes up), and the view at the top is so serene and peaceful. Truly breathtaking. Great for a picnic!

Well kept trails and lots of different access points for a good (up and down) hike. Distance isn't super long, but the elevation is good to get the blood flowing!

Enjoyed a wonderful Saturday morning stroll in this beautiful nature preserve. The fairy trail is great for small children. A must visit if you are in the area with family.

Great trail to walk or run. Nice view at the top with a place to rest, if needed. I believe it is a 500+ foot elevation gain but doable for active kids and most semi-active adults.

This has something for everyone. You exercise, enjoy nature and find a wonderful surprise once you reach the top of the mountain.

Wife and I visited on a pleasant Sunday afternoon in January. There was quite a crowd but it was a rare nice weather day in the winter so a lot of people had the same idea as us. The crowd was not a big distraction. Some decent exercise, after all you are going up a mountain, but good for all ages. Nothing negative to report but I suspect the stretches of packed red clay trail would be slippery and messy in wet weather. Would take trekking poles if trail is wet. Nice layout at the summit. Viewing platform and lots of rocks to sit on and enjoy the scenery.

Well kept and clean. On one of the trails, the walk up can be somewhat difficult. Bring water and insect repellent.

Friend of mine who lives nearby took us for a great morning walk to see the view from the top of the mountain.

Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a great place to spend a couple hours hiking. There are two entrances where you can park. The southern entrance has some smaller trails, but it is worth spending the time hiking the main one. It is 3.5 miles and takes you up to the top of the mountain. There's an observation deck facing north that gives a nice view.

Awesome. Friendly staff. Well-kept. There is a rabbit you can pet. The water garden is gorgeous.
Expansive view. You can choose short or long trails.
Two entrances.

This is a nice hike with a great view from the top. It is a fairly easy hike through the woods with lovely birds and fauna to observe.

small playground, no swings. Better for hikers. Good choice of trails, nice overlook at top of mountain. Does not allow dogs, however. Before it was made a park I could take my chihuahua, but now it's not allowed.

Great facility and personnel, highly recommend for anyone, especially families. Something for all ages to enjoy! Do not miss the view fro the Indian Seats, very impressive scenery!

I find this a nice place to walk and the trail is not usually crowded. I have taken my grandchildren with me as it is not to long or strenuous for them and it helps to not only get some exercise but also enjoy nature. We live in Cumming so feel lucky to have so many parks and recreation areas that are not only safe but also close.

Took the family on a hike in Georgia and end of July - we knew it would be hot and it was - remember to pack lots of water! Hike was good for active family but it was strenuous, would not recommend to anyone who has hip/knee issues. Good part is there is a parking lot on each side so if you want to cut the hike in half you have an option.

Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a nice hiking area. It has access from Spot Road, or Bettis Tribble Gap Road in Cumming, GA. Nice cliff area at the top when you can enjoy a nice view. Actually, you can see all the way to Blue Ridge. They also have an information center with information about the Mountain and the area.

We stopped by on our way to the north Georgia mountains and visited this preserve. It’s free & open to the public.

Great park for a day excursion for couples, families, or even a scout pack. Take a hike up the mountain, enjoy a picnic, or just take in the wonderful scenery and atmosphere. There is an old "indian seat" overlook at the top of the mountain!

If you like crowds, this is the place to go. It was packed on a Sunday. People were everywhere! We started our walk from Bettis-Tribble Parking up to the Indian seats. There is a very pretty view up at the top and where everyone wants to sit to look out and take pictures. It was a moderate hike, but not very far. We did the entire loop which is over three miles by following the loop all the way back to the visitors center on Spot Rd and back around. That part of the hike was not scenic and I would skip it unless you just want to do it for the miles. You hiked downhill to the visitor center just to turn around and hike back up hill for no apparent reason other than mileage. I will head farther out next time to enjoy some peace and quiet!

Not the best hike I've been in and not the worst. Signage is great which helps a lot. Just a nice walk in the woods. The Indian Seats were smaller than I expected. Crowded trail

My husband and I hiked this trail last year shortly after moving to Cumming. The trail was easily accessible from the parking lot and well maintained. It was pretty crowded when we got to the top but it was expected since it was such a nice day. The view is spectacular and the hike itself isn't too difficult. My only complaint is that I wish dogs were allowed on the trail but I understand why they aren't.

So amazing! A great hike, beautiful view... so many things to do there as well. It's a great place to have a day with family!

There are several trails, some long some short. New trails have been added recently across the road from the original park. These trails a longer and less traveled. If you want to get away from people and don't mind spending an hour or more hiking, you would really like the new trails. Thanks Forsyth County taxpayers for having this great park for us to use. Also there are no dogs allowed in the park.

Very nice 1+ hour walk and outstanding view! Not many spots in Georgia you can see so far! Good for family, leave dogs at home please.

Recommended by my boyfriend who lives nearby as something for me to do outside today on my day off.
Glad I went!
Beautiful views! Not a difficult hike. Took me about 2 and a half hours to do the loop. Cant wait to go back!
Road I took there was horrible (curvy, windy and lots of limited sight distance areas)

From the roomy parking to the clean public bathrooms and on up to Indian Seats at the peak, this easy walk is great for all the family. The tracks are narrow and do climb gently through the woods. At the top is a gorgeous view 180 degrees. Children need to be supervised to sit on the rocks (Indian seats) as it is overlooking the edge. There is a safe platform to sit and enjoy the views. A great way to spend an hour or two! The site has been previously dug for mining gold, but the mine is now closed off with a gate. Occasionally theater companies put on a show in the outdoor amphitheater near the car park.

We hiked the Indian Steps trail on Valentine's Day. It was well maintained and a very nice view from the top. Nice clean bathrooms there too. Plenty of parking.

Trails are clean, well-identified and will provide easy to moderate challenges. I recommend a decent quality waking stick for added balance and trail-shoes so you don't feel every stone you step on - although I see many wear sneakers. Restrooms are clean too.

If you are a crazy hiker, Amicolala Falls types of stuff, you will be unsatisfied. If you like a short uphill hike, it's only about 45 minutes to the top. The trailheads need upkeeping and it is very, very easy to get lost! Print out a map before you go. The trails are pretty boring, not going to lie. What is known as the "Indian Seats" is legit. When you get to the top, the seats are off to the side, if you don't stop you'll miss them. They are legitament seats, two have been carved out to form perfect chairs and the third is a little sketchy. The day that I went, it was raining and really foggy so sitting on the seats was a little scary. On clear days, you will see that the seats drop straight down into no man's land. There is a lookout deck (couldn't see anything from the day I went) that on clear days you will be able to see three states from. I believe those are Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The cool part of the hike is that there is a section of the trail that connects with the Appalachian Trail. Ask people their stories and they will gladly tell you about their journey, it is so cool! Dogs are not allowed on the trails, which for many people is a turn off. They will fine you for leaving your dog in the car and for taking your dog hiking. Overall an average hiking place but pretty views!

Me and my eight year old son hiked the newer side if Sawnee Mountain today, it was a beautiful day and an excellent hike! I grew up not 2 miles from the mountain so it brings me back to my childhood of playing and riding four wheelers in my backyard! Picnic followed our hike and my son played on the playground afterwards, great day! Now onto nap time!!

The hike up to the Indian Seats is steep in some areas, but not difficult. The overlook and the view at the top are beautiful. We went on a cool fall day and we could see for miles. There are no dogs allowed in the park and even though we do have a dog, we did not mind. He just had to stay home. It's a great get-away from the craziness of life.

What a sparkling gem so close to home!! Hiked the trails to the Indian Seats area...and, ended up rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views!! Very family friendly!

This is a fun hike for all age groups of reasonably good health. The trails are well marked dirt trails. Be careful of the rocks and stumps. Not all of the trail is perfectly clear. The incline might be a bit much for those out of shape or with respiratory conditions. I got a little winded myself. WEAR GOOD SHOES WITH ANKLE SUPPORT!!! Also if you pack a lunch, hike to the Indian seats and admire the view.

Love this trail - I've hiked it several times. Beautiful views and great exercise. This trail is not accessible at the top for some handicapped persons - you must be able to walk up and over large rocks. The trail is several miles long I think.

We went out exploring with no plans to hike, but we came upon Sawnee Mountain Preserve & decided to check it out. We were so pleasantly surprised. The trail to the top of the mountain is well maintained with a few benches here & there for resting along the way. There are paper trail maps available, as well as makers along the trail system. The geology & flora of the mountain are unique & beautiful & we had no idea of the incredible vista that awaited us at the top! It was a little hazy the day we went, but we could still see some of the mountains in the Appalachian mountain range (Yonah, Brasstown Bald, etc.) perfectly.
*It was a Sunday, so the visitor's center was closed, but from the outside looking in, it looked quite nice.

Beautiful 4 mile loop through the woods. Not too strenuous with around 460 ft. in elevation gain. The view from Indian Seats at the top is gorgeous. This is a great place to bring kids because there is a cool visitors center on the Spot road entrance where they have honeybees, snakes, turtles, fish, anoles, frogs, and a bunny that you can learn about. Then you can take a hike and there are places to have a picnic. Perfect local day to enjoy the fall colors.

decent views from sawnee mountain with lots of trails. some can be steep and challenging especially in the mud.

My family and I have been hiking this mountain for years. They've changed up quite a few trials due to the greenway but all well worth it. Lovely in every essence and a must do!!!!! The views are breath taking and well worth the hike. With fall coming up, no excuses, just do it!

If you are in the area I highly recommend a trip to Sawnee Mountain Preserve. It is a nice, family friendly hike on to of the Indian Seat and enjoy some great views especially in fall you get to enjoy a wonderful and colorful scenery.

The park is new, that's about it. Trails are washed out and rocky. No pets allowed. Cigarette butts everywhere. Nice, clean, warm restrooms though.

About an hour north of downtown Atlanta, a great place to go hiking and enjoy nature. The only negative is they don't allow dogs

Great views at the end of a relatively easy hike. Kid friendly, too. There are two entrances. The round trip hike to the Indian Seats is much longer from the entrance next to the nature center. For a shorter hike, go to the other entrance.

We hiked Sawnee Mountain located in Cumming, Ga. This was a moderate, 5 mile hike (round trip) to these spectacular views. We parked at the visitor center near Spots Rd and took the Indian Seats trail. The visitor center has clean restrooms, zip lining options, and a cool tree house. This was an enjoyable hike especially since Fall 🍁has decided to arrive. The weather was perfect! The strangers on the trail were kind. The views from the observation deck and nearby rocks, speak for themselves. Several people were out there relaxing in hammocks taking in the views. 💫
Pay attention to the numbers on the marked trees as there are different trails out there and you can easily get turned around if you’re not familiar with this mountain. Wear proper shoes and pay close attention if you decide to take children. It’s easy to trip over the trail’s loose rocks. There is no guardrail at the top so please be aware of your surroundings! #exploregeorgia #joystravel #sawneemountain #indianseats #rose4lyf — at Sawnee Mountain.

This is a very nice park, that has two sides to it. One side has the visitor center, and the other side has some picnic tables and playgrounds. Might want to get a map at the visitor center. To get up to the top of the mountain, the longer route is from the visitor center side. Well worth the effort to go up to the top. There you will discover the Indian Seats. Be sure to go all the way up, and check out the view from the deck. Perfect place to have a picnic either down below or up top. Just a couple miles away is a great place to grab a picnic lunch at Ferguson's Meat Market at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Hwy 369. Ferguson's has a large hot foods section in the rear of the store (take out only), but you can get a boxed lunch and take it over to the park and enjoy a nice outdoor lunch or dinner. There is a man made waterfall and running water feature at the visitor center, and I have sat there in a rocking chair and had my lunch too.

Our Girl Scout troop went hiking back in May. The visitor center staff was super helpful and patient with the girls, very knowledgeable about the mountain, it's history, it native species and animals. I highly recommend.

A must-go place.
Many wonderful trails that can go for a mile or 4 or 5. Amazing views. never too crowded. easy get-to. Play area for children.
Highly recommend

I hate even writing this review and revealing my secret, but alas, I must. There are 2 parts to the preserve. One is the trail that leads to the mountain itself, along with Indian Seats, etc. It's beautiful and heavily trafficked in nice weather. The other, hidden gem is on Tribble Gap Road and it is a 5 mile ridge hike in almost solitary conditions. If you do this hike and see more than 12 people on it, it'll be an unusually busy day. The last 3 times I've been - 0, 3, 7. And so close to the northeast suburbs too.

Sawnee Mountain Indian seats are definitely worth the hike. Wait for a clear crisp fall day to maximize the views.

I live close to the preserve and as soon as they open I was there hiking!! Very safe very clean! I really enjoy I always go there with friends and family!!

Sawnee Mountain Preserve offers a number of amenities that are available for the general public. A hike up to the Indian Seats, a natural rock formation at the top of the trail system, offers a beautiful setting for enjoying the views of the North Georgia Mountains. This is also a perfect location for family photographs, particularly during the fall leaf season.

The place could be a lot more maintained n cleaner. It has pretty flowers just not enough pretty surroundings for doing family photos.

Wife and I visited several years ago then again last week. It was just pleasant the second time as the first. There was quite a crowd because it was a nice day a lot of other people had the same idea as us. Even with a large crowd it was not overrun. The hike is nice with some steep parts but nothing unmanageable. Great for exercise, after all you are going up a mountain. This is a hike that is good for all ages. Because of the makeup of the ground on the mountain I think it could get slippery after bad weather. If you go early in the morning you beat any crowds and it tends to be even more peaceful.

Went to Sawnee Mountain Preserve for a quick trail hike. There is plenty if parking available, and 2 parking lots to choose from. All parking is free. No pets allowed on the trail. The visitor center is fantastic with usual information and some activities for little ones. The trail itself is well marked and is a couple of miles to the top of the mountain. There is a large tree house that children were having a blast in, as well as a fairy trail. As expected, the trail up to the top can be strenuous at times with the incline. However, the walk back isn't nearly as strenuous. Overall it's a great place for an afternoon stroll.

We had been to Sawnee Mountain before with our three younger kids, but we wanted had heard you can see a pretty sunset, so we decided to give it a try. It was beautiful! If you go to the parking lot by Bettis Tribble Gap, it's only about .7 miles to the top. We had a great evening hiking up, and seeing the beautiful views and sunset. Just make sure you bring a flash light for your trip down, since it gets dark fairly quickly

We parked this time at the Sawnee Mountain United Methodist Church parking lot. The trailhead is to the left of the church, on the edge of the parking lot. We took the church trail up to the Mountainside Trail. It's marked with blue diamonds with MS and numbered. We walked clockwise and eventually got to a junction, but we stayed on the Mountainside Trail. At one point we crossed a road and there were steps. We got back to the church trail and retraced our steps down to the church parking lot. For us it was 4.4 miles in all.

This is a beautiful location. Lots of activities for the family. The trails are well marked and taken care of. Restrooms at both trailheads. Great view from at Indian Seat. Abandoned gold mines to see as well. Great half day trip.

Our family of 5 with kids at 7, 9 and 11 all loved this hike. We did 2 miles in and 2 miles back. It was not difficult and the views at the top were amazing. We loved the “Indian seats” built into the big rock up top where you can sit and look for miles. A ton of space up too as well so it doesn’t feel crowded as you rest for a bit and look out from up on the mountain.

This is a very quick 4 mile hike. It is highly trafficked. The trail can be hiked either as a loop or out and back to the overlook. If you are looking for a scenic hike with not as many visitors, I would highly recommend driving just a little bit further to North Georgia for better hiking.

Fun hike to the "Indian Seats". Three carved seats on the rock ledge. There are multiple trails and they are all labeled well. Nice view from the top of the North GA Mountains.

Great place to hike or run. Scenery is beautiful and the trail is a little challenging at first, but hang in there and when you get to the Indian Seats you will be glad that you stayed with it.

I had a great time with a few of my friends hiking the mountain. We hung out out the top for a good 20 minutes at least. I could have stayed much longer. I'd like to hike up and have a picnic or watch the sun rise/set. The trails are nice and it's an easy to hike.

Hike up to the top for a beautiful panoramic view of farms, etc. on a clear day, the Blue Ridge Mountain range can be seen. Not a difficult hike, fun for the kids and great exercise.

Easy parking very clean... fun easy walk to the top. Brought backpack with snacks and drinks.. awesome free fun

Went with my family in April. It's close to home so for me it was a short drive :-)
plenty of paved parking, nice playground for the kids, and miles of wooded hiking trails with 1/10 mile markers along the way.
Will go back.

This was a nice little park. Great for a short day trip. The hike to the top was steep, a fair challenge but not for the faint of heart. The views from the top are very nice. You can see for miles on a clear day.

We have done this hike as a family many times. The view from the top of the mountain is beautiful. It basically makes a loop as a large one way trail. I always see a lot of people running the route. It's a nice way to spend a couple hours with the kids.

I really like this park but they have one downside that keeps me from coming more often. Pets are not allowed on the trails. To me that is a big negative. My pooch comes with me everywhere.

Lived in Cumming for years before I even found out about this place. We hiked to the top and could not believe the beautiful view. Trails are clearly marked and definitely doable for all ages.

This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. A fun hike that is a workout but not too difficult. Take time to sit in the Indian Seats and enjoy the view.

As a family we enjoy exercising our way up...the paths are clearly defined, friendly people doing the same trail, beautiful view justifying the climb!

Due to hurricane Irma, a few of us Floridians made our way to Cumming, GA to take refuge with family. They told us of Sawnee Mountain. We went to the visitors center, where all 6 kids, ages 5 to 12 had something educational and fun to do. Then we figured out a shorter starting point for the hike. We drove over and parked then hiked about a mile up to the peak. The views were beautiful. The children enjoyed climbing on the rocks while the adults watched closely. All in all it was a lovely day.

I haven't hiked the trails yet, but this is a beautiful nature preserve. My kids love the visitors center and pond because of the animals the feature in both areas. Definitely want to hi,e there soon!

Good hike. Very fun if your in town for anything else. We saw a gold mine on trail nothing really explains it but we enjoyed it. If it wasn't for trip advisor prob wouldn't of checked it out! Thanks

The preserve is a great area for the family to spend the afternoon. You can hike the mountain or explore around the visitors center. My daughter enjoyed the small library. We also feed ducks, turtles and built fairy houses.

My niece and her family brought us here to hike a short trail. She has a 3 year old and they hike often with him. He was able to walk the entire trail up and back, as were the rest of us. lol The view was beautiful!
After the hike we walked across the road to the section with the playground. It was a very hot day and although there was shaded pavilions the playground has no covering. It still made for fun for the little guy.

Great variety of hike close to home. Chose from easy to hard and long to short. Trails are well maintained.

Nice hike for beginners and they added more trails across the street which are more difficult in some areas. Nice place to enjoy hiking, taking pictures, or spending time with the kids on small playground.

Fantastic trails. We wanted to take a day and enjoy nature and this place did not disappoint. There is some great scenery and you get a good workout.

Sawnee Mountain is a great spot to go & be in touch with nature. Great trails for everyone. No trails are overly taxing & the views from the top of the mountain are fantastic. A short distance from downtown Atlanta. This area is terrific for a great getaway from the city for a few hours.

A lovely walk Inthe woods, I would probably have given it a five if I'd made it to the top for the view, but we started too late in the day. As it was it was nice to go to a preserve that wasn't all done up with boardwalks and special paths. It is woods plain and simple with good hiking. The visitor center has a great room for children and adults with all level books about nature and interesting things to look at. I regret not having time to get to the look out because it looks fabulous. Good place to walk for every age unless you have physical disabilities. Also no dogs allowed, which I applaud

Great learning experience and simply beautiful. You must be a nature lover and if you decide to visit make sure to wear the right shoes

Great any time of year if it's not raining, or too hot. Best in spring or fall for forest foliage and views. Almost like flying at treetop level. For people with difficulty with breathing or walking, it's steep; but the long walk can be taken slowly, and if you have the time and stamina, it's worth it. Even if you don't hike, there's a nice visitors center at one of the two trailheads. Check their website.

I like to hike the Appalachian Trail, and I use the 11 miles of trails in Sawnee Mountain Preserve as a great place to go for a short, Saturday morning exercise. The original side (east side of Bettis-Tribble Gap Road) has 4.2 miles of trails, offering loop hikes of various length and difficulty. The Indian Seats viewpoints (multiple) to the north offer wonderful looks of the Appalachian mountains to the north. Access to this side's trail system can either be from the parking lot on Tribble Gap Road, or the visitor center located on Spot Road. The new side (west side of Bettis-Tribble Gap Road) has 7 miles of trails and has 2 loops that can be hiked. Access to these trails can either come from the parking lot on the west side of Tribble Gap Road, or the back side of the parking lot of the Cumming First United Methodist Church (located off of GA 20 west of Cumming). There are no views on this side. Both trail systems offer various degrees of difficulty, but I think in sum, the newer side (west) is a bit more challenging overall.

My family and I recently walked the short trail to the Indian seats. My kids (ages 8 and 10) loved it! They usually get bored easily but the walk was nice and they loved the view. The park is really clean too.

Sawnee mountain is in a quiet area off Spot Road, just North of downtown Cumming. The park has a good hike up Sawnee Mountain, which is a slight incline and rocky in spots - but once you get to the top you can enjoy a great northerly view.

We had an enjoyable afternoon hiking the mountain. It was very exhilarating. We felt safe and the facilities were great.

This trail is very family friendly. We saw hikers young and old. It’s not paved so strollers are not a good idea. Whoever planned the trail out though did a great job making it winding so it wasn’t too steep. Sadly, pets aren’t allowed so if you love to make hikes with your beloved dog, this is not the place. We didn’t go at the time to see the orchids in bloom but the weather was perfect! The first week of April gave us perfect temps! We could have made it a longer walk but we had a bit of a drive yet...

An enjoyable place for a short (hour or two) hike. Good photo opportunity at the top and well maintained trails. First time there can be a little confusing as there are several options for the trail, but there are maps at several of the intersections. No dogs allowed.

Take the walk uphill and you will be rewarded by breathtaking views.
The tree house, koi pond add to the attraction. The sheer natural beauty of the place makes it worth the effort.
The hike is a level 3 on a scale of 1 to 5.
So it is not uncomfortable as you climb up quickly. Luv the place as a couple and so do my teens.

Sawnee mountain holds a special place in my heart. I've taken all my grandkids up the mountain too many times to count. We always enjoy the trek
The visitor center has informative instructional areas, classrooms, bathrooms are neat and clean (even after a school group came through!), and the hiking trails are well maintained. The employee at the front desk was very friendly and explained the trail map and talked about the Preserve.
Once I reached the end of the Indian Seats trail, I would have liked to see a display showing the mountains that were in the distance. There was a sign there, but it had been defaced. It was an overcast cloudy day, and rain was on the way, so the mountains were not visible.
Overall I had an excellent but tiring hike. I took the Indian Seats trail all the way around, which is listed as 3.5 miles. It was fun!
