We saw a movie/presentation at their Omni Theater. I grew up going to the Omni in Fort Worth, so it was nostalgic to see that this one is so similar. We were there for the last showing of the evening. It was sparsely attended and the staff didn't seem excited to have to stick around, but that didn't take away from the experience too much. We're glad we went; this is an asset to Lubbock.

I'm 25 years old and wished I had visited this museum as a kid! It is so facinating, the omi theater is awesome and the gift shop had some cool science trinkets!

I would recommend here for children and anyone with an interest in science.

This was a very interesting museum. Unfortunately due to the amount of time I had I missed some of the things there. But I was very fascinated by what I saw. Relayy enjoyed the Omni theater.

By Cindy T |

A great place for the whole family! I just love the kid friendly exhibits, and there is always an interesting attraction. Don't miss the IMAX experience! The bubble area and the "do nothing machine" are some of our favorites! The kids area was a big hit too!

By Teresa R |

Went for the butterfly exhibit and stayed to see the rest of the museum including the film. Not sure if Spring Break was hard on the hands on exhibits or of that's standard for children's museums?

I've been coming to the Science Spectrum ever since I was in second grade, and they were at the old location on 50th Street. My mind was blown whenever I came in 1993 at the current spot. There were new exhibits and the Omnimax was still in its infancy.

Just like any other science exhibit or museum, it looks like it could use a facelift. The fun displays I enjoyed as a kid are still up. It also appears that the Omnimax is getting a bit outdated as well, especially with the Imax just down the Loop.

The place holds fun events like CritterFest to maintain the public's interest, and for that they do a good job!

I've probably been to the Spectrum more than 100 times in my life.

If you went here in the 90s it's still the exact same stuff you saw, nothing new at all but kids love it at any age. We have a membership because my kids love to go there and run around :)

The Science Spectrum Museum is a must see place, especially for kids. Most all the exhibits are hands on for kids. My grandkids have been there many times and never get tired of going. It's a little bit pricey, but worth it.

Visited the Science Spectrum and Children’s Museum with our parents and 3 year old son and had a blast! You could easily spend a day here if you wanted to look at all the exhibits. The theater was wonderful and all of us enjoyed the “Oceans” movie. We will definitely be back every time we’re in Lubbock!

This is a fun interactive place to take your kids to have some hands on fun. Its also interesting for adults. I don't know if you would go more than once but maybe if they have seasonal exhibits then yes. Its definitely worth visiting at least one time. The kids had a fun time and their was plenty to see and play with. Price wasn't too bad.

I've never had a bad time at the Science Spectrum. Usually I will take my family for one of the special events like Critterfest or Bubble Fest but have gone to just to watch a movie. The educators are knowledgable. I advise to go during early in the week to avoid crowds.

Every Friday, this place is a must visit. Our 4 yr.old grandson absolutely adores going here. There are multiple activities as well as interactive exhibits for children of all ages. The single visit price is about like you would expect.

I love this place. My kids love this place. So much to do and learn! We go at least twice a year, if not more. Worth the money and time.

By Brittney M |

This place hasn't changed too terribly much since I was a child. However, it's a very charming place. It's especially for awesome kids 5 and under because there's a children's museum that's completely hands on. The rest of the Science Spectrum is also really hands on. We went when they were having a reptile expert who had all kinds of slithery creatures she was showing off. It was fun! They also have an omni theater. This place is good for field trips and day trips.

By Donna S |

It was a great afternoon of fun for our grandchildren, especially on a hot summer day. Informative and fun.

By Keith K |

Have been there twice with grand children this year. each time was a new experience with children of different ages, each child found areas of special interest to them. interesting to see that concentration and learning experience.

By Mishlz1 |

This had some fun activities for both adults and children, it reminded me a lot of childhood science. There were a good amount of displays and activities that were adult friendly. I paid for one of the movies, it was a little disappointing. It was supposed to be about coral reefs and preservation. It spent a lot of time on the people of the area that I felt wasn’t needed.

The Science Spectrum is a place where kids and parents/grandparents can have fun while actually learning about science. Hands on exhibits demonstrate scientific principals. There is also an Omni-Max theater which is a unique experience. This is a reasonably priced place that the kids can enjoy and have family entertainment.

My family (grandparents, myself and my 4 yr old daughter) visited during the 2013 Critter Fest. We watched the LPD's K-9 demonstration. Everyone enjoyed it. Then, we went in to the museum part were they added booths from various organizations (most were either very visual or tactile, not just pictures and paper information) in among their usual educational exhibits. My daughter loved it. Then, we watched the Imax "Flight of the Butterflies." They have a concave screen so the movie wraps around to cover your peripheral vision - awesome. (We now have milkweed and blue mist planted at our house because of this movie...) The line to see the BIG cats was too long for my 4 yr old's patience, but she did wait to get her face painted like a pink cat. Best face painting I've ever seen. I wish we could have done the outside petting zoo and pony rides, but it was just too hot for the adults. We will be sure to visit the grandparents again on Critter Fest weekend next year!

This is a wonderfully fun and educational place for us to take our grandchildren. Our children have fond memories of when they visited. Now their children, “The Nine” ,love it also. We buy a membership each year so when our grandchildren come to visit we can go and spend a few hours or make a day of it and carry lunch. (We have even walked next door to Furr’s Cafeteria for lunch. Cafeteria experience was an educational experience also. :) Then return to visit another level of the Spectrum.
There are exhibits and activities for every age group. The preschool area has been updated and remodeled so well our grandchildren we’re sad when they grew too tall and have great memories-of playing with the boats and being news casters. They have found other exhibits they look forward to visiting again and again. Who doesn’t love giant bubbles or sand or wind tunnels. We all choose a ball at what we call the “mouse trap” and watched them travel up and around and down again. They could literally spend hours building giant structures with KEVA. They also are drawn to the history of flight exhibits. Never seems to be enough time. Of course, if possible we try to make a showing at the Omni Theater. They have learned things they talk about for months and years. Our once nine toddlers are now moving into their teens and still love the Science Spectrum.

This place has great potential and it is good to visit when in Lubbock. However it falls short of what other similar types of museums are like in other cities like Explora in Albuquerque (absolutely top notch) and Denver. I wish the people who run it would take more care and continuously improve the place.

When my kids get 'bored' or stir crazy a trip to Science Spectrum always does the trick! It's a great escape from winter cold, spring winds, or summer heat.

By 740Rubyrose |

Great place to take children. Grand kids really enjoyed the interactive items there.

By mdelacerda |

This is a great experience for the entire family. It's educational and fun. The movies are informative and the view is awesome.

By goCit5 |

We enjoyed our afternoon here. Great for all ages. Lots of hands on things to try there r other things u can see if u want to pay extra but we didn't do that part.

By NavarroEst2008 |

This used to be one of my fave places when I was younger! I took my daughter who is 4 and she loved it but, I hated that a lot of the exhibits didn't work. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable but I wasn't impressed sadly.

By Beverly C |

Conveniently located on the south loop, this is a favorite stop for locals as well as visitors from elsewhere. All kinds of interactive displays and a wide range of interests.

By hcdmom |

We have had a membership for the science spectrum for years. Many of their exhibits help explain Science and show kids how things work. They have a small childrens room and multiple floors. They also have the educational imax with different shows focusing on different educational topics. These shows are extra.
I summer months they have critter fest. You can introduce your kids to creatures the may other wise never see or ride. Memberships can be for a day or a year. I always thought the family package was great. They have all kinds of events open to member only on the first day.
They have Holloween(festival), Christmas and other events. The events include specialties like chemistry (experiments), reptile show, tiger show and crafts. Also, it does have summer day care programs and holiday programs for scool breaks. Some thing for every age group. You can feel good about your trip knowing your child is learning and having fun.

This place seemed more exciting from the outside. Needs updating. Lots of interesting things. My teenager enjoyed but just seemed old. Not horrible.

By Maegan K |

The museum is very expensive but my kids enjoyed it. They enjoyed the activities and didn't realize they were learning.

By Moviemom16 |

This place is a nice place if you are going to the Omni Theater, if not, it's an okay visit. Little ones would enjoy the the hands on room. The up to date exibits are a nice touch as well. My 10 year old enjoys the older hands on as well. It gives science a fun touch. Will return soon.

By johnwesleyharden |

Lets see, I need a place to keep children busy, so I can sit and take a break. The Science Spectrum fits the bill. Imax theatre, rooms loaded with science info, a store which sells experiments, and toys. Vending machines! I'm in heaven, have fun kids, I'll be here in the lobby waiting for you! Thank you God!

By Lara J |

This museum includes a "children's museum" for kids 5 and under, fun science exhibits for all ages, exhibits and demos focusing on wildlife , and the omnimax theater. A small gift shop has great educational toys.

By Samantha P |

My boys loved it! It was a little pricey for me but it's worth the money for sure. So many things to do and see.

By Serenity J |

When I moved to Lubbock last year, my youngest son had a field trip to the Science Spectrum. We enjoyed it enough to buy an annual membership! My only complaint is that a lot of the hands on (interactive) gadgets and gizmos were broke and it wasn't as clean as I'd had liked it to be. Especially in the small kids play area. However, I did speak to management in casual conversation, and found out that they depend on donations and sales to be able to repair and maintain the museum. So funds are limited. I definitely think it's worth a visit. Especially ages 2 to 12.

By Patricia T |

Fun for the whole family. You have to see an IMAX movie, a great experience! Your little ones will love this place, with 3 floors to roam around. They usually will have a theme and will have different things to look at several times a year.

By Timi R |

Adults will feel like they are traveling back in time to episodes of Mr. Wizard...... did I just date myself? :o)

By Kathy B |

We started out as members when our son was small. He's now 34 and with two kids of his own, we started full-on memberships for them also. We use this membership so much, I sometimes feel we're taking advantage. The grands (4 and 23 months) are so hooked we can hardly keep them away. I highly recommend the Science Spectrum even if you aren't "sciencey"

By heart0texas |

Each summer, our oldest two grandkids visit us in Lubbock for a week and I'm always looking for fun activities for them. As they've gotten older (now 12 and 14), this has become more difficult. Last summer I made plans to visit the Science Spectrum Museum. Using the word "museum" was a mistake--I got a few groans! Also with us was my 17 year old stepdaughter. Once we arrived, we watched the Omnimax movie, which was very good. Then we moved on to the exhibits. All are hands-on and usually spark some inquisitive discussions: "How does that work?" Very good signage helps to understand the exhibit and know how to "use" it. The bubbles were a big favorite, as was the climbing wall. There are three floors, each filled to the brim with fun exhibits and displays. I took pictures galore and we all had an absolute blast. Many times I heard, "Hey, Nana, look at this!" Two to three hours is probably a good time allowance but more could easily be spent there, especially if you take in the movie as well. I noticed my grandkids' Facebook posts that evening raved about their fun outing and it was declared on the list for next summer. There is a nice gift shop in the lobby with science-related toys and gadgets. A toddler room was under construction, perhaps it is completed by now. Easy access right off the south Loop. Come for a visit, you won't be disappointed.

We visit the Science Spectrum several times a year. There are always special themed events that they put on throughout the year. This past weekend was the Dental Fair. They have several local dentists offices that set up booths & hand out prizes, toothbrushes, literature, etc. They will even check your kids teeth for free.
Some of the other events throughout the year are Bubble Fest, Critter Fest, Spooky Science Carnival, Severe Weather Alert Day and several others like Butterflies Alive! and Penguin Plunge.
The Science Spectrum itself has 3 floors of activities for kids. The bottom floor has a giant animatronic T-Rex which my son loves! They have an aquarium of sorts with different types of fish and other animals and insects on display. The main floor has a play area for children 5 and under that has a mock grocery store, vet office, music room, TV station and many other things for the little ones to climb on and ride on.
The main floor also has lots of interactive physical science exhibits with levers, pulleys, etc where young and old can spend lots of time "tinkering".
The top level has a huge model train on display that both of my kids love to see. They also have a "space" area, a gallery of flight where you can make paper airplanes, and my favorite-holograms & optical illusions.

By Jeff K |

Nice museum, but not enough there to hold attention of teens to long. Really a children’s touch and learn type museum. Had some cool things, but had some trouble getting little interactive screens to work and some of the microscope things were not focused. Omni theatre is nice. Multiple shows during the day. They should advertise with dinosaur replica, thought there would be more artifacts, it’s not a museum that specializes in dinosaur specimens. Not to costly, Museum and Omni theatre under $15 for adults. A one time stop for museum, would go see shows in omnitheatre that are very reasonable cost

By Jessica L |

It has some great interactive exhibits. The issue I had was that the area designed for younger children to play (under 5) doesn't allow older children in, so my 3 year old couldn't enjoy those age-appropriate exhibits because my 8 year old was with me. While I understand the purpose ad value of having a small area just for younger children, it made it difficult for my family to enjoy the museum as a unit.

By Caleb |

We've see a lot in the last year. This one had nothing in particular that stood out. Bathrooms needed cleaning and some remodeling. Outside the center was very dirty. Staff was friendly.

By Christian J |

We were impressed with most everything. We loved the giant theatre.
The children's activity center was OK. They had several activities that were not functioning but all in all things were good.

By Lacy C |

I definitely recommend watching a movie! The screen is absolutely gigantic and makes for a fun experience for all ages!

By Gary T |

Trying to kill a little time and went to Omni theatre. Was a disappointment to see 'robots' boring for 4d thought it was going to be about a robot show, not how they were made. About a 45minute view of 'how it made'. Took a tour thru the museum while we were there killing time. Not really much for adults, the majority is aimed at the 8-12 year old range. Lots of hands on stuff for kids, but did enjoy watching other peoples kids play. It was good for them. Wouldn't make a second trip. One of those seen it, done it.

By TheyCallMeHappy |

For educational venues and adding fun for the kids, you can’t beat the Science Spectrum. A massive IMAX screen with amazing in-depth movies and learning sciences, history and soo much more! If ya haven’t taken your kids and seen the excitement on their face ~ well, don’t miss a smile from a child because you’ll smile too!

By 238edwinl |

Science Spectrum Museum is a really fantastic to take kids to spend a great afternoon. There are experiments for everyone to participate in and regularly scheduled lectures on science topics - usuallty at an elementary to middle school age level.

The theater is 'wrap around' and is suitable for adults and kids alike. Its always on interesting topics.

By FacePainter2014 |

I think this is such a great venue for family time. The kids can learn and have fun. To bad we didn't have such cool fun stuff like this when we were kids. I love the films also

By Linda G |

We enjoyed a day at the Science Spectrum with our five-year-old and three-year-old grandsons. There were all kinds of amazing hands-on activities for them, and plenty of things that interested me as well. We saw a live reptile show, learned all about space travel, did some unique physics activities, enjoyed the Imax movie, and there were many more things we could have done as well.

By Deena K |

Super little museum with some great science activities for kids of all ages. They even have an area that it "Kids only" with a music area and other fun exhibits. Our grandchildren went crazy for the space exhibit. There is so much to see, plan on a few hours for tis visit.

By Neal Wright |

The Museum and Omni theater provide Lubbock residents and visitors a unique opportunity to explore physical science, technological developments, native fish, reptiles, aeronautics, and the partial history of Reece Air Force Base among other things. The museum can easily be explored in a single visit. The educators provide live animal and experiment demonstrations that are sure to amuse the curious minds of an age. On top of all that, the entrance fees are very affordable.

By Lisa J |

I've taken my granddaughter there twice in the last year. She is not quite three years old, so many of the exhibits are lost on her. However, the children's play place, for children age five and under, keeps her busy for hours. I'm eager to see her grow into the other attractions like the Omni movie theater and the "real" science exhibits, but if you've got little ones who have busy bodies, take them there. Children under the age of three are free.

By TamaraLG |

Every time I travel I check out the local children's museum, and every time I am disappointed because of the Science Spectrum back home. This place is HUGE! When my son was younger we had a membership and went weekly. There is a wide variety of exhibits and activities for all ages.

By GigiTX8 |

Not all the exhibits work but our 6 year old granddaughter enjoyed it and the Omni. It's not fair that we are members of the Dallas Perot Museum but for a small town it was fun for her.

By Mindy W |

We took 2 Grandkids here
It was clean nice and entertaining
Their dinosaur temporary exhibit was disappointing and expensive but their museum is worth the $
We have been when they had other exhibits and it was great

By Spacey S |

We love coming to the science spectrum. They have many different events that can teach your child or even an adult something they didn't know. I highly recommend checking them out or catching one of their events!

By Keriann W |

We spent a few hours one afternoon at the museum with our 4 and 6 year olds. They enjoyed every minute of the museum despite some of the science being above their comprehension levels. We did see the Rocky Mountain Express at their Imax theatre, and we all enjoyed it. It's obvious that there are some upgrades and remodeling going on, but there's plenty to explore and see!

By Keith Aho |

Take your time to see everything on all floors. You will need nearly all day to see it all, especially if you read all of the information near each display.

By mommeh999 |

Science and learning made fun..say whaaaatt? This is one of the best places to bring your kids (or kids at heart) for a day of fun and learning. Lots to see, do and remember. Three levels of hands on learning. They also have fun events through the year (Butterflies, for example) and the OMNIMAX theater is always interesting.

By TXSunshine |

This musuem is really neat for those with younger kids. I took 3 teenagers, mainly for the Da Vinci Exhibit. For the exhibit, you had to pay $12, which included admission into the museum too. This was spring break week and there were a lot of kids there. They only went to a few of the museum's exhibits. The Da Vinci exhibit was interesting. I was aware beforehand that some of the items were reproductions, but when we got there we were told that they were all reproductions. It was still very interesting.

By Jo H H |

Lots of hands on activities for kids. We come often and I always have to make my kids leave. They never get tired of the activities, and could stay all day. Very educational. They often have themes that are very good.

By Misty1979 |

Overall its a great place, my four year old daughter loves the toddler play area. They have a pretend vet clinic, groccery store, and news desk. Alot of the science is neat if u have time to slow down and read everything. The dinosaur and reptile exhibits are very educational. They really have something for everyone.

By Mari N |

went around Christmas time good place to spend a couple hours during winter storms,, they even have educational 3d dome movies.... I honestly think they should be playing Disney or Pixar movies to go with the theme of the month!

By Joshua F |

My kids love this place and the membership makes it cheap if you take them 1-2 times per month. We try to go once a week if possible. This gets them away from a screen and in the real world LEARNING.This is good for your kids so I recommend doing it.

By K720TSgaryj |

Each time we go to the Science Spectrum, it's an enjoyable learning experience for the 2 and 5 year-old girls. The displays are geared toward children but adults benefit by learning, too. There's a lot to see and experience. The changing themes keep the material fresh and involving. Having exhibits that allow for hands-on makes an outing with small children entertaining. The ability to say "yes" instead of "no" to touching something enforces the enjoyment for adult and child.

By Douglas G |

Lots of things to do, see, and experience. The IMAX is GREAT! Wonderful day trip for everyone. A must see for kids.

By Renee C |

We love the science spectrum and try to attend all of their special events. It is a great place for kids of all ages to touch and explore hands on science.
My one complaint is that it always seems dirty, especially the restrooms. Some of what I am seeing may just be age and that a facelift is needed.

By tshesimmons |

I've not been to many kids museums, but my granddaughters liked this very much. There was a nice gift shop, a small snack stand and lots of variety in the museum itself. As an adult, I noticed that not every display had the supplies needed to enjoy that station.

By Kathryn C |

This is the first in a long time that my kids ages 13, 7, and 3 were equally entertained and enjoyed themselves. Lots to do, a variety of different fields of science to explore. We made a whole day of it. They loved the Omni Theater. I like the fact you can leave and come back during the day. The gift shop was actually reasonable. A great place to spend time with the family.

By dena f |

Experiments and exhibits across three floors that can keep you busy for hours! There's even a special place for children under 5 to play. Our daughter just learned to crawl and loved scooting around in a little gated area specifically for the pre-walking population here. Our group spanned 3 generations and EVERYBODY had a good time. It's worth the price if you have the time to stay and enjoy. Only a few exhibits were out of working order when we visited, but that didn't really slow us down.

This can be a educational stop, but our kids are too young for that-for us it was a place to play out of the snow and cold January weather! An Omni theater here also shows educational films and documentaries. A small concession area is open for snacks too if you stay longer than you thought.

By Carol P |

All kids love the Science Spectrum even those over 60. My grandkids love this place and are always eager to go.

By Annie R |

This place is Amazing we went for the critter fest and had a blast!! So many fun activities that are educational based. My son is 10 and had a great time.

By Becky G |

very entertaining and you really do learn some interesting things without realizing it while experiencing all the different activities

By Cecilia M |

Along with their Imax theatre, the Science Spectrum always have a great variety of exhibits and films for old and young; very educational; our grandchildren always enjoy a visit here.

By mr_rayfinkle |

One of the best science museums I have ever brought my kids to. Nearly every exhibit is hands on so that makes it great for kids of all ages (and even adults). They have unique special shows just about every hour which the kids also love. There is so much to do here it would take several days for the kids to go through everything. The only thing they could improve is that some of the exhibits frequently break or don't work. They seem to be slow in repairing the exhibits as well.

By Stella U |

your family will love it and all the exhibits are so educational. we just loved it and the kids didn't want to leave. we also went to the butterfly exhibit, my littler granddaughter still talks about it every time we see a butterfly.

By Sandra O |

My granddaughter loved it and didn't want to leave! She was fascinated with the magnets and loved the bubbles.

By ryangelathomas |

Amazing spot!! So many cool things to see and do. My kids were fascinated the entire time. I recommend starting on the top floor and ending on the main level. That’s where the kid zone is so it was hard to get our kids out of there to go see the rest of the museum. We did museum only and it was great! I’m sure if you did an added attraction it’d be well worth it!

By Paige C |

This is a lot of fun even for adults. We had a blast and so did the kids we were there with. It is something fun to do with your kids. It is really hands on and a lot of fun.

By Eddie S |

This is a great escape for kids and "kids-at-heart", especially on a rainy/windy/dusty day. It is a highly interactive day trip, allow yourself the time to really enjoy it. We liked it enough to get the annual pass which is reasonably priced and can be used at other venues around the nation.

By KeWork |

This was a great place to really get hands on with science. Our kids really enjoyed it. Lots to do, would visit again.

By davidreimer |

I was invited to attend a weather symposium in early March 2014 at the Science Spectrum. For those not familiar with the area you don't generally see much sea-life or water for that matter (the region is in a major drought). You can understand my surprise when I found out the spectrum had a huge penguin exhibit along with a wonderful hands-on area for children. The IMAX theater is in good condition. If you're visiting the area or just looking for something to do check this place out!

By Tannanichole |

We've love going since my kids were 2yrs old. For the little ones there is an under 5 yr old play area. It's so nice to have a place that little ones can safely explore and play. In this area there is only one exit/entrance and you can see the whole area from that spot. What I liked to do when my kids were little was sit at the door and watch them experience it, with a little independence. The museum is still fun now that my kids are now 9 yrs old. I'd say this museum is fun for all ages. We don't do the theater very often because one of my sons gets terrible motion sickness, so he can watch the movies. The ones I've gone to are awesome though.

By 15franciscaj |

This place is AWESOME! There are many interactive, hands-on activities. Both kids and adults will love this place.

By kjk |

This is a wonderful educational interesting outing for adults, children, elderly. The films are always fascinating and the exhibits are really good. Keep up the good work science spectrum.

By Travelist |

The first thing i want to point out is the Omni theatre, it was awesome. Almost a 360 degree view of the movie it almost felt as if you were in the movie. This museum is a great place for adults and children i didn’t think it was going to be interesting but the stuff in there was awesome. Learned a lot and want to go back because it’s so big i feel like i missed some stuff. Staff was very helpful

By Isaiah Hurtado |

One of the few places in this boring city to go take the kids to. Lots of activities and stuff to play with for kids and the movie theatre is awesome as well. Can be pricey with large groups but can take up several hours.

By Bryan H |

Attention out of towners and to thsoe who ahve moved here recently - This si not New York, DC, Seattle nor Dallas. This science center does not operate on huge donor budgets (relative). But, what they do provide and teach to the young and old alike is well done.

The Omni is a tad dated, but more than apt of providing a great education from butterflies to F-18's in motion.

The attractions and exhibits they bring in from out of town are done really well. The Butterfly exhibit they do here is on par with Seattles permanent exhibit, but with a small and temporary venue. The pupa availability are vast and the kids love the interaction.

Every visit has to be taken with a grain of salt for those of you used to bigger budget facilities, but the Science Spectrum does it well.

By Jessi J |

They have an IMAX theatre there and they play a lot of documentaries and discovery shows. Not to expensive to get in and also has a lot for kids to do.

By Denise P |

A fun interactive kid friendly museum with IMAX theater. Lots of science displays and welcoming exhibits. A great gift shop is housed here as well. You can spend the day here.

By Mrspitts08 |

My boys ages 4 and 2 loved the children's museum. They played for several hours. The kids were able to pretend they were hosting the news, pretend they were veterinarians and run a grocery store. It was a great rainy day activity!

By LindaMcB |

What a great day. I took the Grand kids to lunch then the Science Spectrum. They had a great time. Lots of activities for the little ones. Perfect for kindergarten through 4th grade. They all were entertained and it was somewhat educational.

By Jim45Texas |

We saw Tornado Alley here last. Great omnimax theater with amazing view. Good clean familt entertainment.

By LindaGibbons |

I took my kids there they absolutely loved it i would definitely recommend this place for anyone its awesome!

By GinB2005 |

Three floors of science fun for all ages. My two year old really enjoyed making large bubbles and there is a under 5 play area complete with water table, a grocery store, a music room, and a veterinarian where the kids examine stuffed animals and review xrays. It is really cute. On a cold or rainy day a great place to spend a few hours getting the kids tired. Fun for teens or little ones even adults. The grandparents in our group were even entertained. Well worth it.

By TravelChica1019 |

This is a wonderful museum to visit. It is educational and fun. They do a great job of maintaining their exhibits. I love seeing movies at the Omni Max theater. I hate that they started allowing drinks and snacks in the theater. It is a small theater and the snacks create too much noise.

By Matthew P |

Truly great to see a place I enjoyed in my youth enjoyed by the youth of today. My nephew was kind enough to invite me to his birthday here, it was a blast getting to see him interact with his friends as they all interacted with the exhibits. I also got to see my brother handle a live snake for the very first time in his life.

I used to go here years ago when I lived in Lubbock. It's still a great place....lots of fun. Took my kids this time and my daughter really enjoyed it.

By Bernard W |

This museum has 3 floors. In the basement is a public aquarium with snakes, fish, turtles, coral and more displays. Lots for little ones to enjoy no matter their age. Lots of hands-on educational activities.
ASTC membership offers free membership here. Lots of free parking.

By yuridiahurtado123 |

This is a amazing place for all ages. They have a are for small children like 6 months to 4 years and then the rest of the museum is for all ages. So much to see and do. You can catch a movie while you are there. They have a area where you can take your lunch and sit down and eat. They also have a gift shop.

By RobynLynnEdwards |

This is a great place for kids. There is so much to learn there! If your child is interested in science, there are so many hands-on things they can do. There is a play area for very young kids, and you can even do the flight simulator. The history of the Lubbock area is also women in throughout the place. There is also an OmniMax theater that surrounds you.

By CelesteVirginia |

My friends and I like to go there to blow off some time, I personally think that Lubbock has a ratio of thing to to to restaurants of 1/8 lol but it's cool there but after you've been there twice for school it loses it's awesomness but I love the omni theatre but i kno it can make people dizzy so I guess it depends on you.

By Nanny006 |

Everyone is always so nice and friendly and there are really so many things to do you could spend the entire day. It is not only fun but very educational. Oh yes do not forget the movie which is always an experience.

By josha27 |

I went with my aunt during a recent visit and we had fun. I am a kid at heart so that made it that much more fun. If you are looking to let yourself go and be a kid then this place is going to be awesome for you. Lots of hands on exhibits that are very enjoyable. The Omni theater is amazing and the shows are good there also.

By Laura S |

This place has tons of hands on things to do. I was here with school children and watched them have fun going from each exhibit onto the next...but I had a lot of fun, too! I enjoyed the animals a lot on the lower level...There is a gift shop and a place where you can eat if you bring your own food. They have a great OMNI theatre which is neat...there is nothing else like it in Lubbock, which is usually showing something very neat. The prices aren't too bad and there is certainly enough to do and see for your money.

By gellaoui |

Museum exhibits dont change as often as we visit Lubbock, but it's still a great place, whether you're by yourself or have kids. Omni is also quite nice. A little pricey, but good entertainment.

By Rebecca Lynn |

My son is 11 and still loves this place like he did when he was 5, and thanks to a new toddler area my 2 year old loves it too. This is the kind of place where you can plan a morning outing and guarantee you will have kids ready for a great afternoon nap. If you are local, I highly recommend the annual membership.

By AAC325 |

We have purchased a family pass and go about once a month. Even going that often the pass more than pays for itself.
There are always new things to see and do at the Science Spectrum. Our family loves it.

By va1981 |

My kids and I really enjoy visiting this place. Has lots of things to see and very interesting. Worth coming out to Lubbock and checking it out.

By KELLENKASH |

I have been to Children's museums in many of states, Brooklyn being one of the best and Lubbock's is not bad, there are no water exhibits, or sting rays but for Lubbock your kids will be entertained. Only thing I dislike is the adult price silly to charge so much to adults when you know kids can't come alone

By katrinamiller |

We especially enjoyed the omni theatre. We watched the Panda movie with my 12 & 19 year old children. We all enjoyed the experience. We also went through the museum which has three levels. A few of the exhibits didn't work properly but there was plenty to keep us busy. It might be a little over priced for its size but we have no regrets.

By ivtan |

I was very pleasantly surprised! My 7 and 8 year old love this place. The small entrance fee is well worth it. We spent a little more to see the omni theater show. There is 3 floors of discovery here. In the basement my kids loved the climbing wall, moving dinosaur, and the live animals. Upstairs the boys loved the sound and movement things. There's a swing that moves by suction, a tornado, whispering tube. Also a great airplane exhibit.

By Ashley W |

While some exhibits and areas are somewhat dated, overall the museum was interesting and fun. The main draw seemed to be the IMAX theater and movies, but we didn have time to see anything. We took our 1 year-old and there was 1 particular area for him to play, but many play areas appealed to him.

By heatherthereseller |

The water table in the toddler play area is so fun as well as all the fun things to do. Watch a movie or see the Butterfly exhibit etc. There is so much to do for kids. Science is so much fun and they make it interesting for everyone-handson. NEEDS BETTER MOVIES THOUGH... Same movies play for months if not a whole year. Which makes it not a place we visit often since the kids have gotten bigger.

By Nitza Melgar |

Great place for the kids
Hands on fun
Great chance for kids to learn
It is a good idea to buy a season pass
Paying each visit can get expensive

By Adrienne N |

The yearly family pass, that I purchased for my daughter when she was younger, was the best investment. It included unlimited visits to the Science Spectrum, but not IMAX. We went every week and always had fun. There is always something to interest a child and so many fun things to do.

By blandis2016 |

A variety of exhibits are displayed at the Science Spectrum as well as an interesting movie theater. Exhibits include everything from dinosaurs to buttyerflies. You need to call ahead to see what the current exhibit is for the museum. If variety is the spice of life then this is really living. I have found it best when viewing it with children because they get to try out lots of "gadgets" that are incorporated into the shows. The Movie theater was very unique when it was first built but a 360 theater with sound is not as unique as it once was.

By BrandonandMerce... Z |

It was very fun but the exhibits have been...well loved. And the sports exhibits didn't work a all. It stank of popcorn. The omni theatre was nice but totally inaccurate.

By Melodi Q |

This is a wonderful place to spend the day as a family. So much to see and do. My children love the hands on displays. We keep coming back time after time and they never seem to get tired of it.

By msmith79413 |

This is a great place to take children! They learn alot of different things here and they get to burn some energy at the same time!

By Dana F |

Took our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. She had a blast, and especially enjoyed the news desk microphone, and the veterinary clinic. She even sat through the whale IMAX movie without a peep!

By Alisia402002 |

This is a fun place for the whole family,we only had 2 hours to spend there and really needed 5 , but the kids 6,4,2 all enjoyed it

By daniellemcl |

We came from out if town so don't have a membership and purchased entry to the museum, dino exhibit, and Omnimax. It was pricy for just three of us but the kids had a ton of fun. We spent 4 hours there with the movie (which was great) and I had to bribe them to leave .

The only complaint I has was we paid a lot of extra for the dino exhibit and all it really was was an interactive video game. Very cool but not an extra $6 worth cool as one you played it once or twice that was it. There were a few other things but nothing super exciting.

Omnimax was great and they had multiple movies to choose from. Would definitely come back but probably skip whatever special exhibit they had unless I saw it first.

By Martha B |

I regularly take our young grandchildren and they have a blast every time! In addition to great science hands on activities and animal displays, they have a specific play area for children 5 years and younger and even an area for crawling children to play safely. We have fun and always learn something new!

By Riverbabe60 |

lots of fun for kids and adults, my grandchildren enjoy a regular visit to play at the museum, each time is a new adventture

By Ann S |

This is a wonderful place to take your grandchildren. They have special exhibits on a regular basis. They also have movies geared towards children.

By Jennifer F |

You have to take your children here. The best place for them to learn something new. The theater is amazing

By William M |

our great grandchildren wanted to see the butterflies. They really enjoyed the helpers that work there that helped them to Id the butterflies according to the handouts. we stayed there for about 3 hours we could not get the kids to leave there so educational for them

By roseberry3 |

I've been to the Science Spectrum tons of times over the years. Every time I'm there I feel like a kid again! They always have fun events going on. My favorites are weather and space related ones! Critterfest is always a favorite for many families! Fun for all ages!

By PJO |

Just as fun when I was a kid. My kids throughly enjoyed all 3 floors! The movie in the omni max was awesome!! The only downside it had at all was the broken experinents.

By Katie H |

Here is a place where kids (and some adults) can have hands on learning. They upgraded the second level and transformation exceeded expectations. However, it would be for them to upgrade the lower level. There is plenty of room to add more.

By Anthony R |

Great place to go and see a round movie to get the feel that you are their, or ride a rollercoaster at the fair, or see marine life as if you were their. They also have displays in the back at certain times. Great place to spend so great time.

By Angelsonlone |

Exhibits were amazing...however, we found many touch screen interactive exhibits were broken.....Dinosaur that is on a motion detector was cool......has a huge set of teeth.....we had four boys with us from ages 6 to 2....so we kept making cavities....way educational.

By Fayechiru |

Older building, but great exhibits, kids activities, and the Theater has wonderful, science and history based films. Staff are polite and friendly. The store is decently priced with great gifts for anyone.

By Julie S |

Although it was a very crowded time to visit the museum (6 school buses out front) there was still a lot of space and available exhibits.

By Kathy M |

Dufferent ages and interests are catered to, here. We didn't have time for the IMAX but enjoyed this hands on experience.

By honiebear420 |

I have taken my kids to this place 3 times. They love it. There are so many interesting things there. Very hands on, not the type of place where you look with your eyes and not with your hands. Plus they have the onmimax theatre which is awesome!! A must see if you are in north Texas.

By Trudie T |

I always enjoy the exhibits here. I especially like to go to the IMAX theatre. I always learn something new when I visit.

By IvyLeagueTexan |

Growing up in the West Texas town of Snyder, I used to relish visits to the Science Spectrum. Now, as a 36-year-old environmental scientist, I credit the Lubbock museum as the first place to truly ignite the fire in me to explore scientific theory and test hypotheses.
This is a great place for both children and adults. There is no shortage of interesting exhibitions that will engage both the youngest and most mature minds. Instead of taking your children to a cinema or fast food restaurant, why not take them instead to a place that engages the mind and teaches them the worth of intelligence, introspection, and imagination?!

By Jennifer F |

To roam and learn in a kid friendly environment. They have an IMAX theater and great party packages too!

By LiveLoveArt |

What an amazing exhibit for all ages alike! My friends and I decided at last minute to go visit this amazing show and what a treat it was!! The butterflies we gorgeous and HUGE! It seemed like everyone in the exhibit were getting along and interacting together and happy. Very informative and educational as well. Will have to go back next year!

By Brenna Wiles |

We love coming to the Science Spectrum because it seems like every time we go, we find something new. We like that you can spend a whole day there. They have activities for babies-seniors! We also like the birthday party packages they offer and like that all of the staff are helpful and friendly.

By jjcw2016 |

When the grandkids come to visit us from Florida this is one of the first places they want to go. The grandkids that live here are members and go on a regular basis. Can have party gatherings here also. They also bring in added attractions such as the Butterflies.

By M C |

I love to play with all the science gizmos! This is a hands-on experience that the kids will love. The Omnimax movies are also an interesting experience.

By Meso R |

Not just a kids museum- Kids had a blast..... but adults did also. Many of the experiments and contraptions are interesting to all ages- I had tons of fun with magnets, spinning disks and this cool gel filled rotating disk deal (like moving artwork)! Totally well done!! and the exhibits are rock solid, can take the abuse of kids and adults using them!! Very highly recommended!! My only suggestions is they need more hand sanitizer stations.... But overall well worth the visit!

By hierhaus |

We have been members here for 7 years. The discount you receive on special programs (Critterfest, Butterflies Alive, etc.) make it worth it, but the standard exhibits need some work. They are looking dirty and run down, many pieces to make the interactive exhibits work are missing, and many things are broken. The T-Rex doesn't even move anymore and the water play exhibit is gross.

By Kathy McDowell |

Have taken my grands here several times. Always interesting and updates often so they don’t get bored. Fun times each visit!

By Linda D |

Along with several floors of hands-on science projects, from making giant soap bubbles to making images in the shadow room. A great simulated volleyball game was fun for grandchildren and adults alike. In addition to this, we were able to view a film on the planets.

By NashaTexas |

I visited the Science Spectrum Museum in Lubbock numerous times. The hands-on activities will keep both adults and kids involved for hours. The IMAX theatre is well designed and they have awesome movies.

By Martha L |

I took my 4 year old and 12 year old granddaughters to visit. There were many sections... Health, science, travel, just to name a few. They played, learned, and enjoyed the visit. We were there about 2.5 hours and they could have stayed longer. While there they saw a reptile show, made huge bubbles, saw aquariums, sat in a space ship, made music and did many other activities. Great way to spend part of a day!

By Rebekah T |

It's definitely one of the better things to do in Lubbock, but it's very outdated, particularly the top floor. It has a good little kid section though, so if you're spending time in Lubbock it's worth a trip.

By LubbockFlatlander |

The Science Spectrum is an Educational museum offering over 250 hands-on, science & technology exhibits. They offer classes, an aquarium, and best of all, a 55-ft. dome movie screen.

By Jay O |

I listened to Nancy Neal, the Director Gossip on the phone as there were problems. She would not hang up the phone , and stop talking. Children were fighting and she was too busy talking terribly about someone she did not like. Her husband is an MD ? Nancy Neal needs to be careful what she says .

By Chet S |

I went here with my wife expecting to see things that would only interest school children. I was pleased to find I was wrong.
They have a lot of interesting exhibits for children but there were quite a few things that would interest adults too.
I highly recommend this museum

By hofk207 |

I wasn't sure at first. But turned out to be fun. Hands on for kids and adults. You need at least half a day to go through it all.

By 455carolinec |

We are from a larger TX city and while ours is newer, this Children's museum is superior as far as learning installations. We were pleasantly surprised and will be back on our subsequent trips to Lubbock. The movies were great too!

By fsu23phd |

I have been to probably 12 of these things, the one in Downtown Orlando is number 1 (they have a huge living tree supporting a large part of the museum). But the Lubbock Science spectrum is number 2!

It doesn't look that big from the outside, honestly I didn't have high expectations, I think there was a fake figherjet outside that looked pretty tacky.

But it is huge, it is two stories plus a basement, with a large open area in the middle of each floor, where a huge hot air balloon hovers, it's impressive.

The best part is the relatively new kids section, my daughter goes straight to the fake Vet clinic, where she can put on a kid-sized lab coat, grab a toy bloodpressure cuff and play doctor with about 10 stuffed dogs and cats. Next door is a kid sized fake supermarket, with a working UPS scanner that tells you where each food comes from. The kids section has several ride-on toys, an awesome music room where they can beat on drums, walk on a music and light floor. There is also a news station set up where kids can stand infront of a green screen and tell us about the news while watching themselves in the background. There is also a very good water section (I have seen a few of these water exhibits before, in Orlando and at Marbles in Raleigh, and the Lubbock one is the best I have seen).

Outside the kids section, there is a large aquarium area with plenty of pretty fish, several groundhogs (who they occasionally bring up to the kids area), A good sized physics section (with spinning tables, sand pendulums, etc) as well as a good bubble section. They have a good mix of newer and somewhat dated exhibits (the oversized teeth are pretty dated). My daughter LOVEs the real fighter jet cockpit, you can climb in and pretend to fly.

Without listing everything, let me say: you can feel confident that you will have a Full day here.

We have been (quite accidentally) on an animal day, where the SPCA and several other groups showed up with animals that kids could play with, from cats to rabbits to ducks hedgehogs, it was awesome!

Now we have a membership with an ASTC center, which lets us go to the Science Spectrum for free. If you live in Lubbock, consider the membership, because if you travel, you can check out other ASTC members for free too.

My only complaint: the planetarium movies are not free with your admission to the center, as they are in several other ASTC centers. But overall, this is a very impressive science center that will keep your kids entertained for a LONG time. There is a vending machine and popcorn at the theater, but bring snacks or plan to leave and come back for lunch, because there is no restaurant inside.

By Patricia T |

We have been to Science Spectrum countless times. It becomes routine so now we try to go during special events. I just recently took some family for the first time and they loved it. We even saw the Shark movie in IMAX and it was awesome!

By Sheyla R |

Me and my family went their and had lots of fun i really would recomend this to famillies who are looking for somthing to do

By Danny D |

Really enjoyed the Oceans movie and this would make a great family’ trip for the younger ones.
Pros, the movies
Cons, many of the exhibits are not working.

By doodlebug4me |

My 7, 5, and 1 year old had a great time at the Science Spectrum on our recent trip to Lubbock - they look forward to visiting each time we go, and that's what I'm basing my rating on. There are a number of interactive exhibits that get them excited, and my 5 and 1 year old love the play area devoted to the youngest kids.

I was happy to see some renovations going on inside the museum - they are much needed. For the most part, my kids don't notice that many of the exhibits seem a bit dated or broken. I think it would be great to see some of the exhibits become a bit more interactive and age appropriate. For example, and exhibit on healthy eating habits consists of plastic food in a glass case with written words - my kids pass it right by. There is a lunch counter set up to be a play area, but there are no foods, no dishes, no working cash register - in other words, not much fun to play in.

My 7-year-old was interested in the wordy displays about avoiding drug addiction, but they were way over her head. Oddly, a machine spewed out the smell of things that can be addictive, explaining that smells can trigger addicts' cravings - after helping her make sense of that exhibit, my shirt smelled like tobacco smoke for the rest of the day and she was disturbed.

There are other sections of the museum that are totally not interactive - a section on money, a women's department store that is completely encased in glass - why not have a dress up area and cash registers and let the kids play store after looking at the store? The flight area used to be interactive - it appears to be going the way of the glass cases as well. I hope they return to the interactive part, and repair some of the cooler things that are broken as well.

Among the more fun things - a wildlife of Texas exhibit with prairie dogs, fish, turtles, snakes, and more; a climbing wall, the IMAX theater, traveling exhibits (they were getting ready for a large zoo exhibit while we were there), several fairly large, interactive sections on various types of science, a big section with bubbles (always a favorite) and a section on sports science. Overall, there is enough to do here to fill an afternoon with young kids and leave them eager to come back.

By Vonnie46 |

I take my grandchildren at least once a year to the Science Spectrum. They especially love it when the butterflies are there. We always take time to go to the OmniMax! It is such a terrific family adventure for us. It also gives this 72 year old grandma an excuse to see & play with all of the fun stuff in the museum. We live about 100 miles away so we make it a really fun weekend in Lubbock. If you haven't been yet, you really need to go!

By Danielle S |

We were here with our 7 year old grandson and were looking for something to do, and the science museum provided a nice two hour activity. The activities are fun and we really enjoyed ourselves, but you can tell this museum is old - literal wear and tear in many areas of it. Still, it was fun and for me the section about Margaret (the woman who donated money to start and keep this museum going) was a real gem.

By Einnor55 |

Took the grandchildren ages 4 and 6. So many things for them to explore. Spent the entire afternoon. They had a blast. Will probably take the, again next time.

By NevRsetL4less |

Love taking the Grands here. Lots for kids to see and do. Always see the movie at the theater feels like you are there everytime.

By kiwi41999 |

we love the science spectrum. there is so much to see here. schools from all over texas bring students to the spectrum each spring. Imax theatre offers a variety of movies in circle vision and surround sound..fabulous. the museum is a hit for children and adults of all ages. very reasonable money wise.

By SpokieTexas |

My little one, 4years old, loves this place. So much to do and see for little ones. Interactive play and lots to learn about a variety of things. Worth a visit!

By Dubnation |

It's bigger than it looks from the outside. Museum has a small aquarium which my son was excited to see. My daughter liked the bubble hands-on exhibit.

By ZsH1313 |

This is an amazing place! My granddaughters loved it. My son and daughter in law enjoyed it as well. This place is huge! With so much to see and do you will need to set aside several hours to fully expereance all there is.

By danielmZ47WU |

We brought our home school kids for a field trip! This place has so much potential yet so disappointing! So many of the attractions and exhibits were not working! My kids who are teenagers were bored and over the fact that so many things weren’t functioning! The Omni-max was really nice but other than that- this place needs an overhaul! The fact that the parking lot was empty should have been a sign!

By Angel F |

I went all day with my son and he had the greatest time. the movies were good and the staff was friendly.

By Kelly S |

I had been here with my kid and he loved it. Went back with just my husband and he was pretty impressed too. We even caught a movie in the Omni theater. Great museum and inexpensive way to have some fun.

By Keesha D |

fun place. i would plan half a day here if you really want to try out and see every single thing. i just wished you could actually choose between all 3 movies even at 1030, cause we were bummed that only the dinosaur looking movie was open. we wanted to watch the shark one and it wouldnt start til later.

By Carrie R |

Although the aquariums kacked, the museum and theater were good. Really enjoyed the theater, the screen is dynamite

By SilverRhino |

Visited today with my wife, adult daughter and two Grandsons, 7& 2. The facility is a great concept , but is real need of updating and some maintenance! Many of the exhibits did not function properly or at all. Staff was of very little help and did not seem to be concerned that things did not work. The designated area for children under three seemed nice, but I only looked in. I am a retired professional with an advanced degree in the life science area and felt the graphics needed to be updated. If an exhibit does not function, the learning process is negatively affected. Much of what needs to be repaired would just require some simple fixes.

By kidztrvl2 |

Great hands-on fun for everyone! The eco system tour in the basement is a must see. There is fun to have in the whole building and terrific IMAX movies.

By free2bee |

On a visit to see my daughter and son-in-law (students at Texas Tech) we decided to check out this museum. My daughter will be graduating soon and we knew that this might be our last chance. Although the price was a little high, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The variety of exhibits was wonderful. Due to time constraints we had to rush through it a little. We spent about 2 hours here, but could have easily spent 3-4. Definitely a nice place to visit.

By LadyCribb |

I took my three young children ages 5 & under and they had a blast. There was plenty of things to do and hours seemed like minutes. I was worried that the youngest wouldn’t have fun but there is something for all ages! I highly recommend and my oldest, who keeps begging to go back, gives it a kids 2 thumbs up!

By DesertRiver |

My boyfriend and I visited Lubbock simply because the city was in the middle of our long distance relationship. We decided to visit the science museum and OMNI theater because it was in our guidebook (check the Lubbock guidebook for a coupon!). We saw The Unseen World in the OMNI theater and we both thought it was amazing! The screen is huge and curves around the front so you have to look side to side to see everything. The sound level was perfect, not too loud or quiet. The movie was fascinating and the perfect length. After the movie we explored the museum. The main level is basic science concepts and LOTS of kids. We didn't realize there was an upstairs or a downstairs until later. The stuff above and under was even more interesting. My favorites were the hologram displays and the flight museum and Reese AFB exhibit (we are both pilots). My least favorite were the animal displays because their cages and aquariums were just TOO SMALL! I couldn't help but feel bad for the poor things. I wouldn't keep ocean fish in tanks that small. The prarie dogs were the most sad. I just wish they'd had a little more room.

By KG_TXtraveler |

This museum has a lot to offer to keep little children interested and entertained for a few hours. There are 3 floors of exhibits and it looks like they are upgrading some of their areas as well. I would recommend for younger children (less than 10 yrs), and not older teenagers as the science exhibits are aimed at younger kids. It was a good environment for them to run around and explore.

By Katrina305 |

Great for family time. There are lots of hands on science discovery opportunities which adults will enjoy as well. Of course you'll want to see the IMAX movie. But that option isn't a requirement.

By lbkm |

We had grandchildren in town for a visit so came here for our first visit. We had planned on staying a couple hours before going home for lunch, but by lunch time, there was still a lot more that they wanted to see so we went home, had lunch, one of the kids had a nap, then we went back for another couple hours. Re-entry was easy with the stamp we got when we entered.

By wbfog |

The kids LOVE the science spectrum. They have several really great events throughout the year. Lots of neat exhibits to keep the kids entertained for an afternoon. The Imax theater is also a good experience.

By Slim_Pickings |

We had some time to kill while in Lubbock and decided to take our three year old to the Science Museum. It was a blast. It is twice the size, if not more, than the one in Dallas and has way more hands on exhibits. There were a few things "out of order" but overall it was a great time and my three year old loved it. We could have easily stayed there all day.

By Ryan B |

Always a safe bet to pass an hour or two, rather it be family, friend, or date.
So many different knick knacks and knowledge bits around.
Highly recommend stopping by if you've never been.
Thanks Science Spectrum!

By Dan |

My family and I go to the Science Spectrum quite often on the weekends. There is SO much to look at even when they don't have something special going on. My favorite event to go to is Critter Fest in June; although the Butterflies Alive is AMAZING and so is the dinosaur display. Children of all ages will enjoy themselves.

By Victoria J |

We had a great time checking out all this Museum has to offer. The many levels and interactive displays kept us busy for a few hours. We were fortunate to get to experience the space bubble demo - it was fun! Did not get a chance to see any of the movies but would love to come back and see them as well. Thanks!

By Genia M |

This is a great hands-on experience of fun for the family! Come early and plan for all day! Start out walking all thrugh the museum. Then take a break at the snack shop there for lunch. Relax while you watch a movie at their attached Omnimax (better than IMAX) and then walk some more in the museum! Great day!

By McIlroy |

This place has a wide range of topics and things to do for all ages. My daughter loves the under 5 area with water play, market, vet, music room, etc. We can stay for hours and not get bored.

By Genn C |

Good place to take your kids to learn and have fun at the same time. The kids love it and have a great time exploring.

By RodJ297 |

Three floors of hands-on science that is great for every age group but the youngsters love it! Making huge bubbles, playing virtual volleyball, and much more make this more like a playground that a science center. Frequent special exhibits are always fun to enjoy!

By HERSHEL62 |

This is a good place to take kids of all ages we are in our 60 and enjoyed taking the grand kids and it travels tru all the ages.

By jaxson1 |

They had a dinosaur special exhibit when we were there. The kids loved playing the dinosaur educational video game in the special exhibit hall. The permanent exhibits in the main levels are a mixed bag. Some of them are interesting and work as designed, but some are dysfunctional (especially the sports themed ones). We viewed an IMAX film about weather which was somewhat so-so. Overall, I would give the center a 3.4/5. It is somewhat interesting, but not top notch because of some of the dated and broken permanent exhibits throughout.

By VanEsq12 |

The best part of this museum is the IMAX theater. Overall, the facility is small, and every time I go, seems to be in some state of renovation or repair. There are hands-on exhibits for smaller children.

By PickyDinerInTexas |

My grandkids regularly ask to go to the Science Spectrum. The little ones love the playroom and the older ones are fascinated by everything else.

By bradoncarey |

We really enjoyed the theater. I hadn't been there since 2000. They have expanded and have a neat reptile show allowing kids to touch the animals.

Our family had a great time here. There are interactive exhibits for people of all ages. This is one of the more well maintained science museums we've been to and we've been to many. The staff was very friendly and the shows were cool.

Lots of hands on activities for preschool through 6th grade, and the kids always love the live critters. The Omni Theatre is a great venue for the many nature features shown there. If you lean towards motion sickness choose a seat in the lower rows. Varying attractions throughout the year to encourage annual memberships.A good place for budding scientists to hang out.

I took my 4 grandkids ages 11-8 and they all loved it, can't wait to go back. My son is a science teacher and he loved all the things the Museum had to offer and try out.

By Colton C |

They just renovated their children't wing making it a wonderful place to let the children run lose and enjoy watching them play. The whole museum is great, but I have youngsters, so it is the children's wing that is so great for us.

I took my mother, three of my grandchildren, and my teenage daughter to this place and I wish that I had not!

When we arrived there was a high "space bubble" set up in the lobby. There were no demonstration times listed so we asked the cashier and she told us they would announce before the demonstration starts and there would be a couple of them. We went on our way awaiting the time for this exciting demonstration....we will come back to this.

Over half of the displays were broken or did not work. The reptiles were not well cared for and their tanks had excessive amounts of feces. One display had a salamander that was dead. The exhibits that did work were interesting and interactive. Interestingly enough my daughter had a birthday party here about 11 years ago and all the interactive exhibits we saw were the same! I think it is time to update or at least fix the broken stuff and take care of the animals!

After an hour and a half of exploring with my grand babies we decided it was time to go. As we were exiting into the main lobby two employees were coming the opposite way and nearly ran over us with carts....carts that contained pieces of the space bubble exhibit that we never heard an announcement about and wanted to explore!

This was a waste of $42. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

By CHERYL P |

It is a great museum. The day we went it was critterfest which made it extra crowded. The hands on exhibits look fun but because of the crowd we didn't get to do everything. Plan on visiting again on a less busy day.

By VERNON432 |

this is the place to take the kids of all ages, took the grand kids and the had a great time, the movies are very good and rated G.

By Lorri L |

Our daughter took us here with the grandkids when we were in town for a visit. Admission is reasonably priced and we were given a military discount. It's 3 floors of activites for kids and us grown ups had fun too. We liked the water table and grocery store. Some local history on nearby airfields and servicemen. Bathrooms are only on one floor but plenty of stalls and clean. There's an area to eat but I think you gotta bring your own food. There's a gift shop we avoided and a movie theater that's an additional charge. Friendly helpful staff.

By tlboyd58 |

I have visited the Spectrum on sevearal occasions. Each time is a new experience. Not only is fun for all ages, it is very educational for all. Each time the grand kids visit, it is one of the firest places they want to go. Always changing exhibits makes this a special venue.

By Sherry79225 |

The kids loved the place. It was very reasonably priced.

By Kaley_Daniel |

This is a great place to entertain kids for a few hours, if not more, easily. Fun and educational. Our family has been going since our oldest was a toddler - he's now 6 and still often chooses to go here over other places. We also all enjoy their special events (e.g., Critter Fest and Halloween Carnival) - they do events very well.

By Beverly R |

They have the best exhibits there! My little one learns stuff while playing with the cool stuff and hates to leave. I would go every weekend if I could!

By Merinda C |

This is a great place to bring your children. Your kids will always have a great time and so will you!!

By imssc1 |

My wife and I took our grandsons here twice in the past 3 months. They are two years old and they just love it there. The kitchen on the second floor is a favorite as well as the music room, water area, and TV studio. We took them to the Oceans showing on IMAX and they sat still in a trance for the whole 45 minutes. Great job staff!

By Jane Moppers |

It was boring for the kids but I enjoyed it! It was cool to see the replicas and the real dinosaur bones! But the bathroom had grafitty on the wall and no toilets were flushed!

By CTAWilson |

Great place for kids and adults alike. You can touch so many exhibits and experience first-hand. If you take your time you can easily spend 3+ hours in exploration and sometimes memories. Coming from the early times of of the US space program, I loved the pieces exhibited and enjoyed sharing with my children. Go and enjoy this wonderful museum.

By Ashley C |

I could easily spend an entire day here. Though I recommend a minimum of 3 hours to get to see almost all of the museum. They have a wonderful variety of hands-on science activities geared toward children, but I saw many adults playing with the different interactive exhibits. Someone on here complained about the museum being outdated---well good news! It's being updated right now! Part of the first floor was under construction while we were there and they're adding new paint, designs, and more! I'm very excited to see how it looks when it's finished.

Their Omni theater is impressive as well. They always have new movies to see and the movies are always very educational and entertaining as well.

The front desk staff has always been very friendly, and the staff we've run into in the museum have been very knowledgeable and friendly as well.

My favorite part of the museum is the Brazos Alive exhibit. It's their live animal exhibit that teaches you about the Brazos River and its impact on the state of Texas. The exhibit features animals that you'd find in/on/around the Brazos, as well as animals and landscapes that are affected by it. Very neat. The tanks are constantly changing and new fishes are being added all the time. They've even got sharks now! They do a great job of educating the public not only in the exhibits, but also during their live animal shows. We loved the snake show. They brought out some beautiful snakes that we got to touch.

Overall, there's so much the Science Spectrum has to offer. We visit frequently. This is certainly a must-see attraction with very reasonable prices!

By redant07 |

Took the wife here to watch a movie at the IMAX, the movie was a dud but the wife's company was great. The Aquarium was good but walking through it only took about 15 minutes.

By Jrosenquist7 |

This was an interesting museum if you're interested in science. I am a science teacher and was super excited, but when we got there there were some things that didn't work right and were very dated. Most things haven't changed since the 90's. I know they rely on donations so I understand not having funding. It was a nice museum, but nothing amazing.

Also we had our 2 year old son who really just wanted to run around. I feel like the prime age for this museum is between 9-12.

The kids play area for small children was nice but packed.

Overall it was nice for the price, but nothing amazing.

We would probably visit again when our son gets a little older.

By SoonerJJ |

Would allow at least 2 hrs. We only had about 90 minutes & probably missed almost 1/2 of museum, but did do pirate special exhibit

By Crystal L |

Great way to spend a rainy day with you child. Lots of hands on learning for kids of all ages. Love the iMax.

By mommyparty1 |

My son LOVED this museum. He is five and it is the first place that he started to ask Why? when he saw something cool. Which is COOL! Three levels of really great and different exhibits. Lots of fun and different things for all ages. Has a huge little kiddo area too.

Visited while the butterfly exhibit was open. AMAZING - 600 flutterbys going everywhere! And a craft station as you exit.

Didn't do the OmniMax, but the film options looked excellent. He is already asking to go back!! And compared to other museums that I have visited - the fees are very reasonable for the time your kids will want to spend there!!

By Oliver R |

This is a really nice hands on experience for all ages. There is so much to see and do, allow a couple of hours.

By monas850 |

Great opportunity for the whole family. Excellent exhibits and knowledgeable staff. Something relevant for everyone to enjoy. Time well spent!

By Stephanie S |

We have visited twice and sent our 8 year old son to a one week camp. This is a great place for exploration and fun! Hands on activities throughout will keep the whole family happy!

By Stan K |

I will never forget the Titanic exhibit at the Spectrum. The Spectrum brings in top rated exhibits for short periods of time. Keep a sharp eye out for those and receive a great reward/display!

By NMTravel505 |

The omniplex theater at the Science Spectrum is worth checking out. The screen is a dome around the audience and provides a really unique viewing experience. Definitely worth catching a show.

By Katrina S |

Science Spectrum was a wonderful experience for the grandkids, but maybe museums and food just don't mix.

By KNana72 |

We had such a great time exploring and playing with my grandchildren. There was so much to do and see. What a great adventure.

By stacy b |

I love bringing my son here. He is not yet 2, but they have an entire area that caters directly to his age group. There are so many fun and interesting things for all ages to experience!

By Anne K |

The museum has lots of interactive stuff that even adults have fun and learn from. The Omni Oceans movie was truly impressive. We spent the whole afternoon there!

By 980jeannam |

Science spectrum was a great school class trip. There is plenty of room and interactive activities for kids of a wide age range to participate in. I would like to see their live critter area expanded, but it still provides a neat area of interest. We had been there the year before during the butterfly exhibit which was fabulous. Would love to have that repeat.

By eaterofallthingsgood |

if you are a little weak and have difficulty and are on a budget this is good place to take grand kids

By TxMamacita |

This is a great science museum for the entire family! On Saturday's they usually have special demonstrations. There is even a room for very young children to play and explore. During the summer and over school holidays they have camps for elementary school children that are wonderful. Of course the omnimax theater is a must so plan for that during your day there.

By ru1390 |

Having watched this place grow, move and improve since it first came to Lubbock, I continue to be amazed that we have such a wonderful venue in Lubbock. Memberships are the best value because there is so much to do here it takes frequent visits to see it all. On a recent trip with grandkids, they pet a snake, a bearded dragon and a turtle, growled back at a T-Rex, made music, enjoyed baby chicks and rabbits, pretended to be newscasters, veterinarians, space explorers, archaeologists, and much more. I've never heard so many requests for a return visit to anyplace I've ever taken them, anywhere. Science Spectrum is first class in every respect and rivals similar venues in much larger cities!

By Sharon G |

There is always something happening for adults and kids at the Science Spectrum Museum! The occasional special exhibits are always very interesting and educational. Great books and related merchandise end a pleasant visit every time.

By TXTravelGal |

Fantastic museum with a little bit of everything! Very interactive, great for little ones to run around and explore. The kids area on the 2nd floor is fantastic with all their sensory and imaginary play areas. Well worth a visit!

By Michelle C |

Always a great place to bring the family. The DHDC in Amarillo also takes the same membership card. They have snacks for the kids and plan on at least three hours to enjoy everything.

By travelersfromtex |

Our three young children, ages 5, 4, and 2.5 LOVE this place. They always want to go back. The gift shop is overpriced but the tickets to get in the science spectrum or Omni show are moderately priced. We like seeing the shows also.. very educational and child-friendly!!

By 503cassiem |

We loved the Science Spectrum before we had kids now we enjoy it with a child!! Took our daughter for the first time and she loved it!! Can't wait to go back!!

By food481 |

It fun learning all about new things in that museum look and playing with bubbles and making shapes out them

By r2krueger |

Everytime we visit family in Lubbock, the kids want to go to the Science Spectrum! We've gone at least twice a year for the last 5 years, and it never fails to entertain them! Now -- as an adult, I notice that it's pretty much the same stuff over and over again, not a whole lot of new stations each time we go, and some of them are getting pretty worn. The kids however, love it. They were 4 and 5 years old the first time we went, now 9 and 10 -- still asking to go!

By Karri R |

We took our 13 year old and our 3 year old for spring break. Thoroughly enjoyed the visiting "Butterfly exhibit". Staff was helpful and happy to be there. The entire museum is entertaining for all ages. Stayed for 2 hours and the time just flew. Especially enjoyed the play area for 5 and under. Interactive fun that kept the 3 year old busy!

By gracethemystic |

For an older theatre the Science Spectrum Museum continues to deliver quality movies. We saw "Jerusalem" the story of the old city in Israel. Good history lesson told by three women of different faiths with live within the city walls. Well worth seeing.

By Timo Y |

Cheap for the amount of the time kids will be distracted. There is a lot for kids to learn as well. Well worth the trip or stop.

By Ismael S |

Kids loved it. When they are happy, daddy is happy. We had to come back because there was way to much to do in one day.

By tim w |

WHat a great place, big teeth, dinosaurs, lots of science activities, lots of fish, we thought we were there about 2 hours it had been 5, we will be back soon and bring more kids

By Quinten S |

It's a big building with a very small actual quality. It's dirty. It smells musty. The carpet is stained, and often the items are broken. The theater is ok, but in comparison to other affiliate museums, this one is expensive for its low quality. I'm wholly unimpressed.

By HaveGranmaWillTravel |

The Brazos River exhibit is fascinating and pertains to the indigenous species in the area. The current Butterfly exhibit is absolutely fascinating. Hands on experience is something we rarely get to experience in West Texas. The summer camps are educational and fun as my grandchildren have gone for several years. Definitely sign up early. We have had birthday parties there too.

By Eric_and_Kety |

We stopped in here for a while between Abilene and Santa Fe to stretch our legs. Im not sure what I was expecting Lubbock, Texas, but this place went above and beyond. We really enjoyed it. Lots of areas for both the young kids and the older kids. Be prepared to stay a few hours.

By Welltravelled1956 |

We are members even though we live 3 hrs drive away and whenever we travel to Lubbock we visit with our 8 year old son who easily spends 2 hours discovering and playing

By travlnwith2kids |

Our membership at the Science Spectrum is the best entertainment value we have in our budget. Even after several years of attending our children (now ages 6, 10) never get tired of going. If you are visiting Lubbock you have to make a visit to the Science Spectrum part of your plans. They allow you to bring a picnic lunch so plan on spending the day. The movies in their special theater are fantastic (extra charge).

By Cel S. |

My husband and I decided to check out the Science Spectrum while we were in Lubbock for the day. The museum had a lot of really cool, interactive and educational activities. The only bummer was that the museum had quite a few activities/exhibits that needed repairing. Some of the exhibits that involved electronics, such as the "push this button for information" type activities, were not working. Besides that, the museum is really fun and educational for both kids and adults! My absolute favorite part of this visit was getting to catch one of the IMAX shows! We chose to watch "Hidden Universe" and I have to say, getting to experience watching a documentary like that on a screen that big was AMAZING!! If for some reason you only get the chance to do the museum or the IMAX, definitely go with the IMAX...you won't regret it! Overall, had a lot of fun at the Science Spectrum and we will definitely need to come back and bring some family or friends with us next time!

By Marianna M |

Our granddaughter loved the toddler area (<5 yrs old). Also explored some of the other areas, where she will find much of interest in years to come.

By Anthony K |

Great time with 3-13 year olds in the toddler area to the t-rex. Science along with history. Includes fun for the adults.

By JudytheSAHM |

The penguin exhibit was hyped up for no reason. Disappointed by their small habitat. My kids enjoyed the children's section. Especially getting to see themselves on TV behind the news anchor desk!

By DylanCFP |

Maybe we're spoiled because we live near Philadelphia & New York, but the museumseemed just Ok. The combustion show was good for our 7&9 year olds

By jdog1713 |

This place is great for kids and adults. There are a ton of science activities that you can do that just seem like a game and are fun. Plus, the Omni Max theater is very cool with great documentaries playing pretty often.

By Osaemosa |

first go to basement/1st floor and 3rd.last take your children to 2nd.once you arrive to 2nd floor which is for kids you won't have energy for the rest. also watch the movie first that you are watching to get it out of way.the snack bar only has basic food like popcorn coke candy n I think pretzel.my children had a spectacular time.FYI my toddler was a little trembled by the planetarium screen to watch movie😕.plan on spending about 4 hr's.1 hr for movie,2 hr for kids floor or more,30 min 1st n 3 rd floor.

By 749carolinav |

My son really enjoys going to the science spectrum! It's a good safe place for little ones, especially on hot days.it's a great place for learning!

By jdog1713 |

I have always enjoyed going here. If you have kids or are going as an adult to bring out your inner child, you will have fun. The extra things that they do are also always fun.

By Livies Yorkies & Biewers |

My niece loves this place but to be honest everytime we are there one more thing is not working. Seems like when it was new it would have be awesome but seems alittle run down.

By JETT |

Our adult sons loved it as children and now our 3-year-old grandson loves it. They do an excellent job taking care of their exhibits, bringing in interesting events and exhibits and keeping it up-to-date. Always a great experience.

By Sharon L |

the Science Spectrum Museum is a very interesting place for people of all ages. A great family outing!

By Margaret B |

Saw an advert for museum in a brochure and decided to pay a visit. Initially didn't think it suitable for two seniors but pleasant member of staff took the time to tell us what was on offer so decided to pay our money and have a look round. Plenty of interactive activities on offer for kids but must admit to enjoying filling the balloon with hot air and letting it rise to the ceiling! Saw and heard our first rattlesnake ever and so glad it was behind a glass case. The iMax cinema theatre was nice and comfy with an awesome screen and we learned lots about The Galápagos Islands. Our grand children would have enjoyed the experiences on offer as did the children we saw in the museum.

By RedRaiderFan416 |

We always enjoy a visit to the Science Spectrum/Omnimax. My boys love the exhibits, and I enjoy the films at the Omnimax! It's definitely worth the visit.

By Z&Z Mama |

Once you've visited the science spectrum, you've seen it all. Nothing really ever changes and many of the attractions/ science displays have been the same for 30 years. It would be nice if things could be changed up from time to time. My kids don't even want to go anymore because they never see anything new. Many of the attractions are overpriced and not worth the $$ at all. We paid a lot of money for the penguin attraction and we were in and out in 5 mins.

By Bryan D |

Critter Fest and Bubble Mania they do each year is great. and the kids love the animals. and the crafts but the museum as a whole is starting to run down and not have as much stuff in there. some things are always broken. But if Never been it is a good way to kill some hours and let the kids run around learning and playing.

By Mcdavis49 |

This place has been a blast for me in my youth and now for my children and still myself!! The staff is always welcoming and it's a great place for science lovers :-) hope it's around for even longer!! Can't get enough

By Lynn E |

What a great way to spend a cold February day. We enjoyed the science exhibits and the movie. Everyone was laughing as we left the place. Happy faces -- Lots to see and do == we will go again.

By Dian G |

We were given tickets to the Critter Fest from our Daughter-in-law, Brittany. My husband, our Daughter, our 3 year old Grandson and I got to experience the wonder of the Critter Fest at the Science Spectrum. We were very impressed with the Lion and Tiger show. We loved looking at the exotic animals outside the Science Spectrum. Our Grandson especially enjoyed the working tools and machinery which were located on the main floor for the children to play with. We would love to experience the Science Spectrum again one day.

By armandog323 |

Take the kiddos to the Science Spectrum to have fun and at the same time just let them explore and experiment. As you drive into the parking lot of the Science Spectrum, you can't help but notice the T38 Training Jet that was once used at Reese AFB in Lubbock. This is a multi level hands on museum. Every child from 2 to 92 will enjoy and have fun here or at the movie theater will an awesome sound system.

By atemp70 |

There are interesting attractions throughout: the butterfly exhibit, the Critter Fest, etc. My children have always loved visiting. Many of the activities are the same each time, but they always do well in rearranging them and adding a few new items. It's a great place to take visiting family for a fun-filled day activity.

By Designtravels23 |

Science spectrum is a great place to bring toddlers and elementary aged kids. I would give it a 5 for the wonderful service it provides our community, but the exhibits are a little dated. However, there is plenty to play around with and they are working to revamp some of the main exhibit space. They also hold great events at least one saturday a month. This is a great indoor place to take our squirmy child when we need to burn off some energy out of the sun or rain. Because we have the membership we don't feel guilty about only spending an hour or two at a time so we divide and conquer with one parent/child going to the museum while the other stays home or runs errands. This way we can use the two person membership for our family of three most of the time. Kids under 3 are FREE!! And there is a small "Children's museum" play area that is great for the 0-5 age group.
We also travel to visit family in other parts of the country. With the ASTC reciprocity we have used our Science Spectrum membership in Minnesota and Illinois and plan to go in Colorado this spring.

By gellaoui |

We enjoy the science museum and Omni almost every time we visit Lubbock and it never gets old. Fun for children and adults, with 3 floors of exhibits, many of them interactive. Special section for under 5's, so little ones can get their wiggles out. Omni always has something good showing.

By GrandTour766675 |

My kids (all ranging from 28-18) and my grandkids (newborn to six) love this place. Its an every weekend stop. We spend an easy 2-4 hours here every time. The theater is a must. We are considering upgrading our membership to lifetime.
