Breathtaking View!

By Carol C |

Drove on the Seven Mile Bridge on our motorcycle, and the view was spectacular! The aquamarine color of the water is truly something to see!

Good fishing spot

By Meander484458 |

Not a good time to visit it is under construction and the park is off limits. But the south end is open and a good place to fish.

Wonderful

By Grace B |

This is a wonderful way to get in your daily walk or bike ride. Beautiful ocean views and amazing sunset.

THE VIEW!!

By Joan W |

The journey through the Keys is just as incredible as being on the Keys. The view is breathtaking. The ocean, well, beyond majestic. Definitely worth it.

Great walk!

By Amy R |

We walked one morning with our kids (10/11). No shade but there was a nice breeze. Bring money if you want to visit the bird sanctuary / bathrooms at Pigeon Key. Trash cans along path. Lots of bikers too. 4 m round trip.

Wasnt as amazing As thought it would be

By Jennifer G |

Cant be improved, we just excepted the drive on the bridge to be different. People make it to be this big spectacular thing it wants 4 of us just disappointed

Great ride.

By Patrick S |

We are staying in Marathon. We didn't need to go over the bridge but since it's been years, it was a nice drive as always.

Western bridge is nice, but not as nice…

By 5ChrisK5 |

Since the old bridge is closed until 2022 (or later!) the bridge on the far side of Marathon is all we have.

Parking is ok. The lot is small. The bridge is narrower making it more difficult if you want to bike. Also, it isn’t as long as the ‘original’.

The bridge itself is nicer. When the original 7-mile bridge is finished, we’re hoping it will be as nice.

Looooong

By 123private321 |

I've been on many bridges, this is one of my favorites. You'll think 7 miles isn't that long, until you're about halfway across and suspended in air, in your small car, COMPLETELY surrounded by vast waters, that never end. It's surreal, unique, exhilarating and worth a short trip to the Keys, just to experience the bridge.

PICTURESQUE RIDE

By Z2526BTthomasf |

Nice view from your car with no place to pull over, but you will enjoy the ride. The old bridge parallels on the western side. There is a tree named Fred that is growing on the old bridge closer to the south side of the span.

Best Key Lime pie in Marathon!

By Janet J |

Great food. We wanted something healthy and ordered the spinach salad and Greek salad and they were delicious. The greens were very fresh!

7 Mile Bridge Race

By ScottyMac |

Had another awesome run this year! I think the residents of the Keys put on an amazing race!!! Staff were super friendly and helpful.

What a span!

By sunnyskier |

Wow this was quite an accomplishment to build back in the day! Thank goodness the auto crazed Americans got a new one built by 1982. Repairs to it are coming according to the paper after damage from Irma. It will be one lane, slowing the trip to key west.

Great at sunset !

By Timothy S |

This was a really cool experience walking over the bridge from Marathon. It gets very busy at sunset and parking is limited. The water is beautiful !

excellent bridge

By TheRealAwaxy |

Well, the bridge stayed intact and kept us out of the water, so it did its job well! It was interesting seeing the old bridge parallel to it and wondering about what it will be used for or what the plans are for it.

Beautiful drive

By Lynn Z |

Beautiful drive, a must when visiting the keys! Drove across this bridge several times during our visit.

It never gets tired!

By Jim B |

We absolute love crossing the Seven Mile Bridge.
The scenery from the bridge, and the bridge itself is simply outstanding.
When I see photos of Pigeon Key it automatically brings me back to Marathon and the Seven Mile Bridge.

Cool Long Bridge

By Vrqqqm |

We drove from Key West to Marathon and drove over the 7 mile Bridge. Very interesting, you can see the old bridges on the left and right sides that have been left to rot.

Beautiful Scenery

By luke47 |

This beautiful long bridge is like you are on a ship. The views are awesome and it is a great way to travel.

Pretty neat place

By Amos C |

We visited the bridge while staying in Marathon. We actually ran to the bridge from out hotel. It is neat to look out over the water and walk down the bridge. It is worth a visit.

Great experience and views

By Q4680BKtj |

Driving over the 7 Mile Bridge is fascinating to see the remnants of the old next to you and nothing but ocean all around. Traffic was not bad but as with most areas in the Keys, some people prefer to take a leisurely drive so plan for a few additional moments to just take everything in and enjoy the views.

Fortifies the spirit

By KMM_240 |

Yes this is a bridge, “just a bridge”. However for those who are traveling from a cold/snow/slush/icy/unforgiving winter, this crossing produces another experience. It surrounds one in a blue/sunny/warm feeling that fortifies the spirit to better encounter this frigid part of the year. It is not “just a bridge” who have known the challenges of winter.

What a View

By Tina M |

This is the longest bridge that I have ever traveled on and it was beautiful! I wish there was a spot to pull into near the middle to take pictures!

Beautiful drive!

By Jenna |

Gorgeous view of the water and old bridges. Loved seeing the boats on the water. Beautiful drive!!!!

Stunning view

By Bethany D |

We have driven over 7 mile bridge many times and that alone is an awesome experience but, this time we rode bikes out on the pedestrian bridge which is the original 7 mile bridge that has been refurbished. We rode bikes from our resort in marathon to the bridge and then on the bridge out to pigeon key which is about 2.5 miles one way (which is the end of the bridge from the north side). It’s a great set up with pedestrian walk way on each side of the bridge and bike lanes up the middle. Great view, nice breeze and endless ocean. There is a small parking lot just before the bridge entrance but it was pretty full. No fishing from this side but, if you are coming from the south side, part of the old bridge has been converted into a pedestrian fishing pier.

Amazing ride

By NC2264 |

Beautiful scenery and amazing bridge. A must do for Florida Keys road trip. It's like driving on the ocean.

It’s a bridge

By Eastbournestew |

A long bridge on the us1 overseas highway. The views are quite pleasant. Needs pull in places to stop and take photos.

Top driving experience

By mikenz2015 |

Lived doing this part of the Keys drive. To be honest this and Key west are the highlights.
Drive from Miami. Stop at marathon for lunch and then keep going to key west

A Feat of Architecture

By AustintoBoston |

Pretty incredible that a bridge can literally span 7 miles of water, the Atlantic on one side, the Gulf on the other. This is one of the most beautiful drives in America and the 7 mile bridge is a huge reason why.

Beautiful View

By Hana H |

An amazing travel experience with beautiful sights. Highly recommend going during the day when the turquoise water is on full display.

A tandem bicycle ride across the 7 mile bridge

By rdando |

We actually cycled from Marathon to Key West but had to cross this bridge. Great shoulders on the bridge for cyclists. Good thing as there is a lot of traffic going in both directions.

Looking down into the keys

By GoldenoldiesLeics |

Looking into the keys from the bridge. Spotted big fish and fishermen catching reasonable catches. Good view of the bridge from the car park.

Beautiful

By halleyforever |

A great drive lots to look at. Dont miss this if you go to Fl. You can see forever on this trip. Not a lot of places to stop however

Florida Keys History!

By Hammstah |

History, weather, Florida Keys, tropical life.. everything wrapped up into this bridge!

When you're driving down to key west, if you don't take time to really appreciate this bridge while you're driving, and appreciate the remnants of the old bridge next to it, you're missing out.

Do your homework and read up on it online, or even better, stop at a local restaurant or bar, spend some money there and help the local economy and enjoy the local seafood, and learn about the 7 Mile bridge, you won't be disappointed!

Seven Mile Bridge

By lithlith |

We drove the Keys on a Friday in March 2024. Traffic wasn't too bad as we were driving Seven Mile Bridge around 2pm and 5pm. If you're looking for a great photo of Seven Mile Bridge, you'll want to stop either before or after and get a photo from the side. While you are actually on the bridge it is difficult to show the expansiveness of the bridge. You'll get the best colors of the water from about 11am to 3pm while there is full sun.

Excellent chance to walk and possibly see wildlife

By screw you |

They have made significant repairs to the bridge since our last visit 3 years ago. Unfortunately very limited parking available. The best time to walk is when there is no wind to spot ocean wildlife. Great to watch the sunsets and sunrises from the bridge.

One of the wonders of the Keys

By fwwood |

How do you rate a bridge? It's a bridge, it's seven miles long. Lots of excellent water views. I think they used to old one next to it in the movie "True Lies".

Always worth the drive

By Dean G |

If get to south Florida this a must drive. An hours drive south of the main land. Incredible views even before you get to this bridge. Stop at the southern end a walk on the fishing bridge. Saw rays, turtles, several different fish. Beautiful water. Don't pass this up

beautiful

By gogrannygo17 |

excellent location for sunrise and sunset. The park on the bridge is closed for repairs from the storm damage a yr ago. it won't be open again until the year 2021.

Seven mile bridge -concrete

By Simon M |

It’s probably a wonder of the modern world but in true American fashion it’s devoid of any character. There no doubt the engineering is impressive but only in the USA would you be able to drive a car across so many lovely islands all the way to Key west. Anywhere else you need to get a ferry (and preserve the local natural beauty...).

Stunning & if time stop at Little Duck Key Wayside Park

By Fraser's Travels & Craft Beer |

Stunning drive over incredible piece of civil engineering. If you have time at the end of the 7 mile drive, stop in the tiny Little Duck Key Wayside Park. We saw as much wildlife in this miniscule park as we did in Everglades NP!
Also you can access the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail here & walk out 0.7mile onto the Old Overseas Highway bridge. (there is currently no access from Marathon Key to the trail/Old bridge).

Saw Leopard Rays swimming

By Angie |

We drove over the bridge a few times. The first time we pulled off and walked the fishing bridge. Spotted 4 leopard rays swimming. They were beautiful!

Spectacular 7 miles of brodge

By MidlandsTraveller |

Well worth at stop (parking at either end of the bridge, but even better was the vie from the boat (tour wit h Better than Most adventures. The pelicans flying in the windward side of the bridge around just using the uplift from the bridge and will not fly into your. Arl

Impressive but just a bridge

By Grace |

Impressive feat of architecture but otherwise just a bridge. Nice to see from afar but being on the bridge is just being on another littered and busy road.

excelente

By jeffsdunaway |

Great photo ops. Beautiful place to visit. Be prepared to stop and swim along the way. Lots of good places to take photos..I recommend you visiting Bahia Honda..Take a chair and a umbrella

Enjoy Biking or Walking on the Bridge!

By pkauten |

Great Exercise! We decided to bike on the newly refurbished 7 mile bridge. It's a beautiful bike ride...the spectacular water colors make the walk/bike path an added value. The path is actually only 2.5 miles each way and the path is clearly marked for you! ENJOY

Sunset beauty

By Donna O |

Sunset beauty at seven mile bridge.
Seeing the seven mile bridge at Sunset is amazing,so jump on a boat and head out for some gorgeous views.

Nice views

By beth ann k |

We were on the bridge many times during on visit. There isn't anywhere to turn around close, when coming from Marathon so we had to drive across to turn around. It really is quite something.

Just gotta do it...no, you really do!

By PeterG022 |

If you want to travel beyond Marathon to Key West by car then you need to take this bridge! It was a nostalgic trip for my wife and I and a new experience for our 18 year old son. Hopefully he will remember it fondly.

Just a quick drive

By Celeste J |

The bridge is beautiful, and the views are stunning. Easy to navigate. My only concern was a Moped going well below the speed limit, and they would not pull off to allow others to pass.

It’s a long bridge.

By Bubbs1965 |

It’s worth a look if you are in the keys actually if you are going down the keys you won’t have much choice. It’s just one lane each way and no where to stop so if you are the driver you won’t see much anyway.
We stopped at the nice restaurant & bar with palm roof at the marathon end where you get a good water side view.

Cool bridge

By TrishaMarie80 |

Fun to drive over! There are places to stop and walk the bridge and to take pictures. Very cool to look down on the water from the bridge.

great ride

By Blueclaw |

awesome view over the water or fishing under the bridge we where catching tarpoon there!!! Keep your eyes on the road

Awe inspiring

By karoleigh |

It’s quite a feeling when you know that the only thing between you and the ocean is a two-lane stretch of highway. Although we had just finished having heavy rain from the tropical storm and it was cloudy, it was still quite a breathtaking sight. We passed tiny islands along the way and also got out of the car on Little Duck Island at a small park.

Gorgeous Drive ❤️

By Courtney B |

Beautiful drive and great time doing something different then water activities. We live in the middle of the US so it’s really neat to see something so different on a regular car drive. Worth the drive

It’s 7 miles long

By tom38547 |

When you leave Marathon & go south you are going to have to cross the 7 mile bridge. Built so many years ago before the USA was so embodied in the turmoil and division it is now, it is a sign of the unity necessary to work together toward a common goal. To unite people and not separate them.

Exciting drive across the bridge.

By PK P |

How can you not be excited and thrilled to drive across this bridge in the ocean? Nice views and something you can always look forward to no matter how many times you drive across it.

Famous bridge!

By Nancy H |

My husband enjoyed fishing from the bridge . He caught lots of different species of fish. Many colorful tropical fish can be caught.

Old 7 mile bridge

By ckvp1 |

So happy old 7 has been revitalized. It is one of the main reasons we visit Marathon. We've been bringing our bikes here for many years. We like to arrive around 2 hours before sunset to get a few trips out to Pigeon Key and back. Packed a bottle of wine in the cooler and toasted to another beautiful sunset. A must do when in Marathon whether you walk, run or bike.

Sunset spot

By Sarah K |

A great place to walk or bike to catch a beautiful sunset over the water. The best Overseas Highway view. You can rent bikes in Marathon to use here.

Biked over the Seven Mile Bridge

By jujubery |

Just a quick word if you are riding your bike on the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail; crossing The Seven Mile Bridge on bicycle is dangerous. You only have a 5 foot shoulder, and you have some very large vehicles whizzing by. I am sure it is a breathtaking vehicle drive over , but think again if you want to bike it. There is public transportation that goes over, but the bus has a rack for only 2 bikes.

Great trip, crossed the bridge 2x day for 3 days.No traffic issues. View is amazing. Still a lot of remodeling

By Vacationer518194 |

The view says it all. Great views ok f the length of each island and og the old flagler train bridge

Water spouts

By Richard C |

Beautiful sunset and sunrise views and you can see water spouts on the gulf side during heavy rain storms

Peace of hisory

By OZS_ATW |

We stopped to see the Seven Mile Bridge, which is an iconic structure. It looks nice and you can take stunning photos from there.

No bathrooms unless you pay $15 each! Ridiculous!

By pookiepay |

The repair of this bridge looks very nice. The big problem is there are NO bathrooms. They need a Porta potty on each end, this bridge is long and there is nothing! There is a bathroom on the far end at Pigeon Key, but you have to pay $15 to use it!!! Who would ever do that? I have seen them turn away young kids, old people, etc people in need of a bathroom. It is terrible!

Nice Bridge

By elchaco |

It's an awesome feat to have a bridge that long. Great views of the water, unfortunately when we were there the water wasn't as pretty given a storm had just been by. To me what was incredible was driving through it at night. Total darkness as far as the eye can see, except for a light or two belonging to some boats out on the water.

Bob from steak and lobster sent us here

By Roberto |

We had dinner at steak and lobster and our server bob told us how fun it is to walk old seven to pigeon key. You should eat at steak and lobster and request bob as your server in your reservation. He will give you good local knowledge. My family thanks you for tipping correctly

It’s a very long bridge

By Amy Y |

There is nothing fancy about this bridge. It is right at about 7 miles. There is nowhere to turn around while on the bridge so it’s a 14 mile mistake if you accidentally miss your turn and end up on the bridge as we did.

Sunset view w drinks of course

By Profjoe |

A photographic location is the Beach shack bar on the East side of the Overseas Hiway. Nice gathering place with bar food and decent drinks. But you really want to see a glorious sunset scene. Very nice.

Marathon Florida vacation

By Linda M |

Best weather. Best friends. Best beaches best food. Had s beautiful week. the Reef Resort was a awesome pla6to stay. On the water. Beautiful place.

It’s a long bridge

By GoingFarFarAway |

What can I say other than it’s a really long bridge. On a sunny day you get nice views of the turquoise waters on either side. If you are heading to Key West don’t miss it.

It’s a bridge

By ERIC W |

If you’re driving to Key West you can’t help but drive over it. I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to see it. If you’re in the Keys Bahia Honda is worth checking out and right at the bridge

Great Views

By pfefmeister |

OK, so this 7 mile bridge crosses a shallow section of the Florida Keys and is quite scenic, but an engineering feat - not so much. Once you start, you are committed, so enjoy the view. Still, crazy people will pass you even though you are doing the speed limit. Fun ride, not great.

Walk the Old Bridge

By Karen H |

The walk on the old bridge is terrific. Even if a walk all the way to Pigeon Key isn't for you, the paths on both sides of the parking lot at the end of the bridge are beautiful for the less ambitious. It can be difficult to find a parking space.

Watch the sunset

By Dawn H |

Long bridge with great views. It has a small parking area perfect for watching the sunset if you get a moment to stop and watch. Fishing pier looked nice and not over crowded.

Beautiful Scenery

By Douglas H |

Enjoyed driving this bridge while driving from Key Largo to Key West. The water was so blue! I wish I had time to stop and take some pictures.

So amazing to see the bridge close up!!

By Rita Lorne |

Going to the Seven mile bridge was a long drive, but SO worth it! I'll never regret my decision! When I got there I ate some tacos! DELIOUS!!

Nice drive

By Sc-berk |

Well it’s just a bridge. But the views are amazing. Nice drive, great views always look forward to this bridge on the way to key west.

driving to key west

By Donna |

beautiful views
over the water. very disappointed that one land was closed. maybe it will be open next time i go to the keys

View of the ocean

By Wayne C |

Seven miles of bridge is usual. But the view is amazing - the water is beautiful and to be able to see the ocean all around and the changing color of the ocean is spectacular.

Breathtaking Scenic drive!

By Skindlo |

This is one of the most breathtaking drives between the Atlantic and the Gulf. The green water and blue skies were just beautiful! A must scenic drive to do and a bucket list item.

Great spot unaccessible to users

By Sue H |

The old 7 mile bridge is undergoing reconstruction and is inaccessible to visitors. You can see it from the water and while driving over the "new" 7 mile bridge but walking and biking are out

The most interesting part of your east US 1 drive

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

While the entire trip to Key West is very interesting, driving the 7 miles bridge is absolutely its highlight.
The bridge starts right after the Marathon Key and stretches, as its name says, for 7 miles. The bridge is very low, and while you're driving you have a feeling you're hovering over water.
On one side is the Atlantic ocean, while on the other the Mexican gulf.
Parallel to it runs the old 7 mile bridge.
Great photo op, so have your camera ready all the time.

One of the best drives

By TnBB |

We've been across this several times and it always shows us something different. Its just so beautiful.

Very Picturesque

By DiverM |

Nice drive from Marathon to Big Pine. Check out Pigeon Key by Ferry from Marathon. This is where the crew who constructed the 7 mile bridge lived.

Amazing views, good moving traffic and well maintained

By Lee B |

Great way to see the Atlantic Ocean and Florida Bay. Several state parks and stop and go places along the way. Good gate way to some Keys culture and touring.

Lots of fun

By Patrick S |

Great for walking, great views, parking can be difficult. My grandson enjoyed the walk about. We didn't do the long walk because of the little guy, next time.

Cool!

By golfingirl2 |

Very interesting and you can see for miles on either side of the bridge...all the different colors of water, constantly changing with the light..beautiful!

A Must Stop

By Dorothy M |

If you are driving the Overseas Highway, you must stop here, especially on a clear and beautiful day. The view of the ocean and gulf is breath taking. There is parking and steps and paths to walk around and just take in the scenery.

Foggy and cloudy day but a cool drive

By Eat, drink and travel |

First time drive (round trip) on this drive, lots of beautiful scenery along the drive. Was a bit cloudy and strong wind so the water wasn't as clear and calm but still a gorgeous drive,

STILL CLOSED

By toddmxer |

We have stopped and walked or bike rode the 7 mile bridge many many times. It is an awesome way to spend as much or as little time as you want to enjoy the views. The water is amazing, and your chances of seeing marine life is very high.

Can't wait for the restoration project to be completed so we can visit the bridge once again!

what a drive!

By Mika |

what an amazing, breathtaking, beautiful view.

the day we were there the weather also happened to be great. it was unforgettable.

Never disappoints

By hiplain1 |

If you own a motorcycle and dont do this ride, you are cheating yourself...it has its frustrations...cagers who go 40mph in 55 zone...but you are on island time so just ride and take it in....watch the oblivious tourists who think they are the only people on the road....and respect the speed limits....and you dont have to stay in key west....stay on other islands or do a day trip from Homestead fl....but those things aside...its awesome.

Beautiful views

By Mary&Bobontheroad |

7 miles of beautiful scenery. Check out the old 7 mile span with hurricane repair and eventually leading to pigeon key.

Still Under Construction

By mootooaj |

The bridge has been closed for a while and continues to do so. They have ongoing construction, apparently to renovate the old bridge. Not sure for how long. They always promise a date but are never met. Of course the new bridge is open for traffic but really not for walking. We used to walk the old bridge but no more. Don't bother going there

One of the most unique and beautiful drives in the US.

By Relax659216 |

Driving over open water is exhilarating, unique and and truly gorgeous. I love it every time I do it.

the view, did I mention the view?

By Rick R |

for those traveling all the way to Key West, the Seven Mile Bridge is just the far side of half-way there - on the overseas highway.

For us, it always signals "your headed into the Lower Keys". Over the years, made this trip many times. And it is as breath taking on the 50th, the 100th as it was on the first trip across.

Fantastic water vistas - with hues of Emerald, Turquoise, Blues and "Morada" - greet the traveler - on both sides of the bridge.

On bright sunny days, be aware of the awestruck first-time travelers.

Put the car-top down and travel on "little bird!" ('55 Thunderbird reference).

Everyone Should Experience!

By mars |

I think that everyone who has the means should drive from mainland Florida all the way down to Key West at least once in their life. I love being the driver on trips, and even while paying attention to the road you are able to see the beauty of all the bridges and the endless bright turquoise ocean.

It is so cool to see all of the old sections of bridge along the drive, and to keep track off all the different keys you drive through. We had the windows open as often as we could, and saw many boats driving in the water by different parts of the bridges. Lots of little scenic pull offs on the smaller, more remote keys.

We were driving a rental Nissan Rogue (newer model), and a mostly full tank of gas got us from Miami all the way down the keys and back up to Miami.

I could do this drive a hundred times over and never get bored of it!

Key west bound

By Beth M |

Read up on the history of the bridge. Very interesting story. Me Flagler had a dream to get the railroad to Key West. He succeeded too until a bag hurricane changed that.

Beautiful Ride!!!

By CathyP1953 |

Beautiful!!! My imagination was on overload as I imagined traveling along the old bridges from years ago. The water on each side of the bridge was spectacular!!!! Such a pristine area to be visiting!!!! The green and blue colors of the ocean water was just beautiful!!!

Long flat bridge with great water views

By Robin T |

It's free and if you are driving all the way down to Key West (which you should) you will have to cross this bridge. Lovely views!

Drive over

By Clark D |

Well it's a bridge after all and a long one at that. We didn't stop but the scale of it has to impress. This is not an unsupported 7 mile span of course, but it does seem to go on forever. Construction marvel.

Half Way There

By Rick R |

When ever you hit the 7 mile bridge it feels like your half way there (either end of the Keys) Yet when you get half way across the bridge you’ll forget about the long drive due to the beauty surrounding you. The great colors of the water matched closely but the colors of the sky are amazing. It’s a long bridge and I often see people running across the bridge and wonder how they can do it with the Florida heat, however I’m sure the running is only half of it. The other half is the beautiful views. Enjoy the ride!

easy drive beautiful views

By Robert M |

If you are in the Keys, one of the highlights is to drive across seven mile bridge. Quite an engineering marvel. Spectacular views of the Gulf on one side and the Atlantic on the other. And its free!

Fishing around the bridge was great !

By Kevin H |

Can't miss at this location for fishing. We dropped some chum and caught snappers and blow fish for about an hour.

Beautiful views

By jazzyfun24 |

A must drive. Beautiful views all the way around. The side of the bridge is low enough not to obstruct your view.

One of the Best Parts of Driving the Keys

By AnitaS484 |

Everyone needs to take this drive at least once. I know of nowhere else in the world that you can drive for so far with a spectacular view of the water.

Very beautiful bridge/drive

By TripPhotographer52 |

This is a long bridge going south from Marathon where we were staying and heading down to Key West. Our weather was nice and we got great views of the ocean on one side and the gulf on the other side. I guess when it is really rough waters, the sea/ocean will come up over the road. I am glad I was not there for the stormy weather.

WATER LIKE I HAVE NEVER SEEN!

By David B |

The colors of the water are wonderful! The sun was out bright, and the colors of the water were beautiful! I am glad that I was not the one driving! It is simply breathtaking! I loved seeing the old road and the missing sections of it running along side the current road. There is a science research station that is accessed by the old road, and it has a pool that opens to the ocean. It would be so neat to be able to explore that! We were only there for a quick day trip, but when we go back, I plan to see if the station is open for visitors! You would think that 7 miles of water would get old by the end of it, but maybe it was because it was my first time across the bridge??? but... I was like a kid in a candy shop! I was eager to see what "new" thing I could spot next!

Drive by

By kj952019 |

Headed to Key West had the pleasure of going across this famous bridge. It was water on both sides. And we could see boats in the water as we passed along.

Incredible!

By Kim M |

Amazing views and the water was beautiful! Can’t wait to go back and drive it again. Yes it’s a long bridge but it’s a bucket list item and we did it! Do it!!

Nothing like it.

By Shane G |

Simply nothing like it to know that it's just you, the car and water held by concrete and steel. The sites along the bridge are a wonder unto themselves. Paradise on one side and paradise on the other. Not too many places can offer such a tour of beauty.

7 Mile Bridge

By wcd7594 |

One of the most beautiful parts of the drive from Miani to Key West. Obviously not a place to stop the car and get out but views are great.
the old bridge is under repair. Do not know when that will be open but it will provide access to the sanctuary.

It's a Bridge, Not a Tourist Attraction

By jdl50cc |

I rode over this installation twice during my trip to the Keys, once in each direction on the way to and from Key West. It's a bridge. A nice bridge, a well-constructed bridge, a long bridge. It serves its purpose well and I would rate it highly as infrastructure. But a tourist attraction? Would I recommend that someone travel to Marathon just to see a bridge? Probably not.

Iconic

By Wombling_Free_7548 |

This is an iconic drive, the views are breathtaking and you can admire the old bridge as well as the ocean. Must do once in a lifetime

A ting o beauty

By Christopher C |

Awesomeness and it’s free for the viewing. Never gets old. Nature is stunning and every night is a new canvas.

great for sunsets

By f taylor |

we parked here for a few hours to watch the sunset. Great place to see some fish...saw sea turtles, rays and other fish swim right by. Also got a great view of the sunset. Parking at the southern end on the right side. parking is somewhat limited.

Just ok

By MattJessicaLukeDel |

It's a bridge. Nice views and incredible feat of engineering but, ultimately it's a long bridge. Thankful it is there but after a few photos you're ready to get to the other side.

Fred the Tree

By ShaneSellsSeashells |

Three words; Fred The Tree! While traveling along the iconic US Route 1, I was so excited to see Fred. Everyone in the car was screaming and googling at him!

A Few Tips About the 7 Mile Bridge

By Marty Bielicki |

There are actually 2 bridges: Old Seven Mile Bridge and the newer Seven Mile Bridge located just south of Marathon. The old bridge-railroad was competed in 1912 under the guidance of Henry Flagler and engineer Clarence S. Coe. You may have seen the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, “True Lies?” That movie was filmed on the old bridge. It was originally a railroad.

The railroad was actually the extension of the Florida East Coast Railway that went down to Key West. It was a major dream of Henry Flagler to complete this railway to connect his stunning resorts through Florida. This famous 7-mile railroad-bridge was one of the longest bridges in the world at that time.

Over 4000 workers were paid $1.50 a day to complete this project. Some died from heat strokes, others died due to snake bites. When Flagler stepped off the train in Key West in 1916 he said, “My dream is fulfilled.”

The Key West railroad would end with the Labor Day hurricane of 1935—before hurricanes were named after women—with winds of 200 mph destroying the entire tract and all the railroad cars except the locomotive which weighed over 300,000 pounds. Over 400 people died in the community. Every palm tree was snapped in half.

The government would purchase the remaining structures and placed the famous “Over-the-Seas-Highway” in 1938. The remaining railroad rails would be used as guardrails. Needless to say, the road was rather narrow bringing fear to most drivers.

By 1968, a new bridge was built to the east making the roadway a whole lot safer. Every April the bridge is closed for 2 and half hours for the “Seven Mile Bridge Run” to commemorate the Federally funded bridge. In realty, the bridge is a tad short from the original one: only 6.79 miles long.

In 2017 the old bridge was closed to make way for a $77 million dollar refurbishment. You can actually walk 2 miles to Pigeon Key—the place where the 1912 workers lived.

Pigeon Key has 4 tours a day—two of which has shark feeding—and you can book these tours on-line. As of this writing, Adults are $30 and children are $25. There is a “train” that will take you to Pigeon Key if you wish not to walk the 2 miles.

It is a 4-mile round trip trek by foot or bike to Pigeon Key. Unless you pay $12 for a self-guided tour, there are no bathrooms per se. It is a lovely walk with blue waters on both sides. Sunscreen is recommended and bring your water too. There is a limited amount of parking by the bridge.

What is there to say about a bridge? It’s a 7 mile long bridge in the Florida Keys that spans between Marathon Florida and Big Pine Key. The best thing is seeing the beautiful blue water of the Gulf and the Atlantic.

Beautiful bridge

By Tim |

The was everything we were told it was. Stunning views during the day and at night. Good to see they are working on the old bridge to make it look great again.

morph into a bird, or capture by drone.

By mrc282 |

everybody will drive on Seven Mile Bridge on the way to Key West. i recommend try to time the drive closer to sunset time, southbound. but the best view remains to be from the sky, so either you morph into a bird, or you capture it by drone.

there are a couple of old / derelict bridges alongside the current Seven Mile Bridge, and one of them is accessible by foot, leading to Pigeon Key. there are no shades however, so it is best to do this walk (2 miles one way, 1.5h RT) early in the morning or closer to sunset time.

Beautiful views from the bridge

By tinkerbelle2016 |

The views of the sky and the sea from the bridge are spectacular!
You can really appreciate the different colors of blues and green in the water.

Covid getaway

By markoni218 |

You are surrounded by beautiful coral blue waters on both sides of the bridge and it never felt like it was 7 miles long. Great experience!

Gateway to the Lower Keys

By Richard C. |

A beautiful ride over the Gulf of Mexico, it connects Knight's Key in the Middle Keys to Little Duck Key in the Lower Keys. It was one of the longest bridges in existence when it was built.

Beatiful views

By louloubelltraveler |

The bridge is great for a day drive. The old bridge on one end is closed for repairs but you can walk out on the Key West side and look off the bridge which is nice.

Always a pleasure to cross this bridge.

By Harold K |

Nothing in particular except it is a wonder to travel over 7 miles of ocean and see the blue water. It always amazes me.

Amazing drive!

By Michael A |

The keys have a special and unique flavour. Beautiful vistas, quirky inhabitants, endless opportunities to get close to nature and many wild sea and air and land creatures.....its lively, lovely, and highly unique. The 7 mile bridge drive is astounding. Scenic, beautiful, and interesting.

A pretty view of the blue water of the Keys.

By rickh57 |

It was fun looking down from the long bridges at all of the various blues of the sea water in the Keys, with the small islands and boats.

By allen treibel |

was pleasant and fun! traffic was light and the people all were polite. everyone was patient with the next person. even when there was road construction.

Great for walking/ biking

By TripPhotographer52 |

My wife’s sister and brother-in-law spend a few months each winter and knew about this refurbished old railroad bridge for walking and biking. We just walked but the scenery of the gulf on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other was wonderful, as the weather was in the 70s and sunny. There was also a steady breeze which was great. Beautiful walk- 2 miles to the end and 2 miles back. You can usually also see rays and turtles in the water.

Beatiful

By bolkin |

Beautiful drive along the keys. We were lucky and there was not much traffic - just wish there was a place to stop for photos.

It's a nice bridge

It's a nice bridge , its 7 miles long ( hence the name lol) it goes all the way from marathon to bahia honda

Seven Bridge is a great place to balance atmosphere, service and comfort. The interior is calm but warm, and the atmosphere is easy to adjust to even for the first time. The food and drinks are also carefully prepared, and you can feel the commitment to each item, and whichever you choose, you are highly satisfied. The staff are naturally attentive and comfortable, and there is a sense of security that makes you want to stay long. This is a house that can be used for both everyday and special occasions and is recommended by people with confidence.

beautiful drive

By meworldtraveller |

wish we had more time to stop along the way, i saw many people pulled over for the sights and a park where you could swim along the bridge was well.

Scenic drive- turquoise waters!

By We❤️2Travel |

Beautiful drive! Enjoyed seeing the dolphins, turquoise waters and mangroves!
Make sure to stop at the various state parks along the way!!

Beautiful views!

By PatW217 |

We never tire of traveling over this wonder! Crystal clear water and ocean and gulf breezes. October is a good time to travel in the Keys. Not so crowded.

Beautiful Drive, Gorgeous Views

By Elizabeth M |

The water in every shade of blue and green surrounding 7 Mile Bridge is a feast for the eyes. You can walk onto the original bridge and fish from the south end. There is also plenty of fishing and diving under the bridge via any number of local charters.

Must see!

By Karen C |

Happy Jack's was a great train driver! Super friendly and fun! C.T. gave us a great, informative tour if Pigeon Key. Highly recommend this tour..only 2 hrs.

Good Driving

By Giovanny R |

The bridge drive was good, we drove on a sunny day so the water were green and blue on both sides of the bridge. Make sure you stop at Sunset bar and grill for a cold one before or after you cross it. Also, check Bahia Honda State park beach, we [aid $10.50 for five people in the car

Stunning

By Gracie R |

This is a beautiful drive with stunning view of the sea, we saw turtles in the water that’s how close you are to the water! We could have flown from Miami but this was less expensive and added to the trip!

Take The Drive

By TSMVAR |

Enjoyed the drive over Seven Mile Bridge it’s a beautiful ride and no trip to the Keys is complete without it! The ocean is so colorful from the bridge this was my second time I never get tired of it.

Must see

By Mary |

Absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking. Definitely wonderful views to see with all the turquoise hues of blue.

One of longest in US

By Eaton_Out |

It is worth going to the Keys to drive this beast. What a view. The Gulf is on one side and the Atlantic on the other. Water is turquoise. Need I say more?

Drive the 7 mile bridge!

By Tracey W |

This bridge has to be a must do whilst in the Keys area-the drive over it is special in many ways (driving in either direction)
The views are fab, the birds are great to watch, the old bridge & the new bridge running opposite each other, the fishermen! It’s just such a memorable drive,,,,,,,particularly in a convertible.
Try & visit Pigeon Key too & see the bridges from a different angle.
Thoroughly recommend making the effort to make this drive. Guess experience is enhanced in good weather conditions!

Don't try to walk or bike.

By palmharborparadise |

Pretty views from the car, but it would be dangerous to walk or bike it. There is a bike lane, but not enough space.

7 miles of ocean

By CRSBerger |

What a great span over beautiful water! Not much else to say, the views are fantastic. April also hosts the 7-mile foot race every year. During this time they do close the bridge.

A must see!

By happyjerseygirlrob |

I always enjoy our trips over the bridge. The views are incredible and the water is the most beautiful color you can imagine.

A long bridge

By nuclam |

It’s a long bridge on US 1 heading to Key West. You can fish off parts of the old bridge that runs parallel, and if you’re here at the right time you might get a good sunset picture at the eastern end. Beyond that it’s just a bridge.

Biking on the Seven Mile Bridge

By Peter Bol |

Nice views and inspiring history. At the end there is a small island where about 400 workers lived during the construction of this bridge. A little shade here and there would have been nice...

7 mile long bridge to Key West

By Natalie Starling-Booth |

I knew there was a long bridge to cross to get to Key West and this was it. It really is 7 miles long.

In some parts, you do get to see some lovely views of the ocean but it is a little bit of an eye saw, maybe paint the sides blue?

The old 7 mile bridge is open to walk or bike!

By kelibundi |

Plan ahead with parking but definitely set aside time to walk or bike this bridge. It’s a 2 mile trip to pigeon key and the views are amazing. If you look to the east in the distance you will see the old Sombrero lighthouse.

7 Mile Bridge Fishing

By Slb64 |

I'm not sure how to rate the bridge so I will rate the water beneath it! We chartered a fishing trip with Wes Jones - Just the Tip Fishing Charter & let me tell you, he didn't disappoint! What a fantastic experience! Don't waste your money on the BIG name charters, look up Captain Wes! He enjoys what he is doing & you wouldn't believe the sharks we caught under this bridge! Hooked into tarpon as well but weren't successful in getting them reeled in. All sharks caught were released & swam away. Our second adventure under the bridge was a rented pontoon boat and it was incredible. The water is so blue & clear. It was a wonderful day under the bridge!

Beautiful views

By KristiU22 |

So don't bother reaching for that camera, he said put it down, as we crossed, you'll never capture the beauty you're about to see. He was absolutely right! I couldn't believe that water in the US really has those colors, breathtaking views. I'm not sure any review could describe how amazing it is. Some people ask if it's scary being over the water that long, not at all last thing you are thinking about with everything to see. Can't wait to go back, over and over and over did I say over again I would never leave this area if I didn't have to.

Crumbling Bridge

By Jason S |

it is a shame that some money is not being invested each year to take down the old bridge that is just crumbling away. Seems like some investment a year could at least start the process before the whole things falls in the ocean.

Amazing View

By amycipriano87 |

Beautiful 😍 location and I creditable views from the seven mile bridge.

Be sure to use the restroom before starting this journey.

O M G

By julie s |

the views are AMAZING! so beautiful. i recommend a convertible to get the spectacular views. bring a camera and watch your speed.

Awesome

By Ray R |

Hopping along the highway, stepping stone by stepping stone, you see amazing water views, but THE bridge is awesome. You want to go back and re drive it. So good.
The old ironwork of parts of the olld structures are fascinating as you glide along.
Each end of the bridge, as with most of the linking bridges, have pull ins to stop and view. Mostly used by fishermen.
Enjoy the journey. One of a kind experience.

Nice place to park & walk

By jlcarter1975 |

The parking at the north end ofthe bridge is currently closed. We parked at the south end and walked a portion of the old bridge. The water is so clear that you can see to the bottom. We saw a starfish in the water. There are trashcans along the way. Watch the rail as fushermen have left bait out in places that has dried up in the sun.

Stunningly beautiful views from an iconic bridge

By darkknight1967 |

Driving across this bridge has always been a dream of mine after seeing it in movies. It is a beautiful drive but be warned this road is a busy one. Its worth the drive though just for the views.

Beautiful site for views and unique history

By Phillip H |

Beautiful photos and historical site. Not recommended for kids or teens (hence 4 stars) as it is a historical site and little to do, but walk or ride the bridge

amazing architectural achievement back in the day or even now.

By John - Cindi |

We drove the new bridge (beside the original train bridge) and the views were breathtaking. Pidgeon key and the museum are worth seeing.

Breath Taking Views!

By Angelo P |

You are basically driving over the ocean for 7 miles. Where else in the world can you do that? The drive is a great experience and a must while visiting the Key's.

An Engineering Masterpiece

By Paul B |

Scary as it is ... you HAVE drive the bridge ... 7 miles driving on the sea. I will tell you not for the faint hearted ... no escape routes and the road is narrow.

To me it’s like the Golden Gate Bridge, the Severn Bridge or the Firth Bridge (the railway one built by a Brunel the better one). Or the road from Loveland to Estes Park in Colorado ... one of the roads that you need to do

Of course!

By riceburnergrace |

Well duh! Of course you need to drive this bridge if you come to the Keys. Even if you don’t make it down to Key West, you need to take the time to go on this bridge.

A long road with sea views...

By captpeterm |

Not sure what to say here other than it’s a long road connecting many small islands with lovely views of water on both sides. The lovely shades of blue are mesmerizing. All of that being said, it’s just a road.

A beautiful scenic drive!

By Allison H |

I loved the turquoise waters and watching the boats and fishermen! A really gorgeous and unique drive!

Great photo op

By George S |

Well it is not a world wonder site but it is damn gorgeous — well at least the scenery is. Probably some interesting engineering went into its construction. Great photo op.

A long crossing

By Pat O |

Between Marathon and Missouri and Ohio Keys is the 7 mile bridge, so named because it is 7 miles long! Parallel to the old railroad bridge built by Henry Flagler (remember him from St Augustine?), the new bridge provides an easy route across the straights. Beautiful aqua water beneath, a glimpse of Pigeon Key, fishing boats, pelicans... what the Keys are made of. The old bridge is being restored - at least part of it - to provide access to Pigeon Key by wheels or walking. Gorgeous views welcome southbound visitors, and say “til we meet again” to northbound drivers.

No access to pedestrian bridge.

By Ben Dover |

Due to lead remediation, we were denied access to the pedestrian bridge. What a waste of money that is for tax payers.

Driving across the bridge

By Ty W |

My son was fascinated with how long the bridge was we drove across and didn’t really stop. It would be cool if you could ride bikes but that’s not really possible.

Interesting History

By vhash77 |

This was a "bucket" list item for us. So thankful we finally drove the Florida Keys. We walked a short distance out on the Old Seven Mile Bridge and took several photos. Just learning the history and realizing that it was originally a railroad system was fascinating.

It was interesting while driving the new Seven Mile Bridge to see the different styles of the base of the Old Seven Mile Bridge as well. The water is so beautiful and the fact you are traveling over the Gulf/Ocean made it even more interesting.

We did not do the trolley tour that goes to Pigeon Key although that may have been very interesting. Our timing did not work out for it. The trolley tour stand is before you reach the Seven Mile bridge area - on the right as traveling south.

This is definately worth stopping to walk out and see.

Landmark From Home

By Jefferjo |

I was born on Marathon and this landmark has always reminded me where my beginning is. Enjoy each time I get to visit. The views are gorgeous from this bridge that seems to go on forever.

Keys Get Away

By sskroll |

If you are going south of Marathon in the keys in a car you will need to transverse this bridge. It gives a great view of the area.

Make it a journey

By NormLWat |

Ultimately it is just a bridge however, it does provide some of the most scenic views one can find. Take your time, enjoy the area where you can pull of and walk along to get pictures of the main road.

Great Place to see Sunset

By Joseph600 |

Just a beautiful bridge and they have re-opened the old one for pedestrians, skateboarders, bike rides. There's limited parking on the Marathon side of it, but I luckily got a spot and walked out there a half-mile for the sunset. Awesome sunset. When driving, DO NOT SPEED. There are sheriffs cars everywhere, in fact, throughout all of the keys on US-1. You never know which cars are empty and which ones aren't...

Amazing Bridge and Views in Marathon!

By DannyWasserman |

Tremendous views on the Seven Mile Bridge coming from Key West Florida working your way up the Keys to the marathon Key. Spectacular bridge and stunning views should not be missed. Check it out, you will be happy.

Yep. 7 miles.

By Mariongal |

If you miss the turn to Sunset Grill you will end up on the very scenic 7 mile bridge. Cool! Flagler railroad visible from part of the drive!

At the posted speed limit, it takes 8 minutes to cross

By Leonard K |

It's a bridge. A long bridge. The views are nice (I personally like eastbound better). It's sturdy (concrete, I'm assuming). Felt very safe. Would have like a faster speed limit, but that's a standard wish of mine.
Appeared as though work is being done on the pedestrian bridge (runs parallel). Seems like an expensive project.

Wonderful drive with beautiful scenes

By Craig S |

Not sure what to write about a bridge that you need to travel over to get to and from Key West. Haha. However there are great views to have during the 7 mile drive!

Vas Sea

By Robyn A |

Seriously breathtaking. I drove one way so muybhusband could take in the views, and then he drove back so I could.

A cool drive

By Cassie H |

Honestly this was pretty cool to drive over. Our first try was unfortunately after sunset, because we are stupid. Our second try was heading back to Miami the next day and thankfully it was a crystal clear day. I forced my friends to pull over when we’d reached the other end to appreciate it.

Beautiful drive

By JHF561 |

Beautiful drive on your way to key west. It is the jump between Marathon and stops at Bahia Honda which is another must see stop. Enjoy the view

Beautiful long bridge

By Carol P |

Not my first and certainly not my last trip over the seven mile bridge. It’s always beautiful. No structural damage after hurricane Irma last year.

Too Beautiful to Capture

By TWB |

This is one of the places you have to be to experience and appreciate. I must have snapped 100 pictures on the way across this bridge, but none would quite capture the expanse or all the beautiful shades of blue. An amazing drive, a must do.

Long Bridge

By copejenney |

You have to use it if you want to get to Key West so we went over it twice on our 4 day stay in the keys.

Pidgeon Key

By Barry |

Enjoyed taking the boat to Pigeon Key, you can spend the whole day there. The museum is very informative of how and when the bridge was built (trains only in the beginning) We brought our snorkle gear and enjoyed playing in the water. Bring your own picnic lunch! The bridge going to Pigeon Key was being renovated.

Beautiful

By Sunshine618570 |

Everyone should drive this at least once in their lives.road is new and safe. Just don’t get behind a slow Sunday driver lol.

It never gets dull

By Jim B |

Travelling over the the 7 Mile Bridge is an annual hi-light for us during our Winter vacation in the Keys.

It is a visual treat!

By Halinbo |

Great for taking pictures!
It begins on the southern edge of Marathon --- it showcases a huge expanse of beautiful water with only a few small islands visible along the way (Pigeon Key has a water-accessible-tour that can be booked from Marathon). There is an old railroad bridge along the way.

There is at least one exit for a fishing pier along the way (or use this as a turn-around!!). Even if not enjoyed while driving to Key West, it is something to see if visiting anywhere near Marathon.

It Ain't Mackinaw, but it's a bridge alright.

By Riding the Asphalt Rails |

Seven Mile bridge is a pretty handy thing to have if you are going from Key Largo to Key West.

The bridge running adjacent the highway is Flager's old railroad bridge and anyone who has ever seen the movie "True Lies" will immediately recognize where a pelican brought down a van load of terrorists.

Other than that, if you can find a way to get to Key West in your car, without the Seven Mile bridge, please share. If you want an exciting bridge, go to Michigan and cross the Mackinaw Bridge.

Not open..... :(

By fksimon |

Well, we just got back and had planned to bike across the trail of the Seven Mile Bridge. It was closed. If I understood the guy, he said it closes every three years? Just be sure to check before you go if you want to bike this. We were able to drive it, but couldn't get to Pigeon Island or enjoy a ride.

Spectacular Sunsets

By Betty |

The drive over the Seven Mile bridge is beautiful . If your traveling south on US HWY1 the Gulf of Mexico is on your right side and the Atlantic Ocean on your left side. The sunset while driving over the seven mile bridge are totally spectacular and that's what the key's are known .

Great place to see the sunset.

By Wade |

Doesn't seem like 7 miles when you are driving. Great place to see the sunset at either end of the bridge (free parking is available).

Great drive to Key West. This bridge may be the highlight.

By runner24 |

We decided to drive down to Key West as opposed to the Key West Express (next time) for flying as we wanted to experience the Overseas Highway and especially the 7-mile bridge. We left Homestead early and had an enjoyable ride all the way out to the end of the road. The drive over the bridge was a treat especially looking over at the old railroad bridge and the old roadway they built on the top. What used to be a white knuckle ride on the old is a piece of cake on the new.
Enjoy the ride.

Seven mile bridge

By babgrl1101 |

Ended up going on the bridge because it is always so beautiful. Especially when it's a sunny day. We like seeing it every time we come to marathon.

Man made wonder of the world ...

By machinmad |

A marvel of modern engineering, you have to remind yourself you are literally driving over the middle of the ocean. The low barrier wall affords a 360 degree view of the multi coloured ocean, but remember to keep your eyes on the road.

An interesting stretch of the east coast Highway 1.

Highlight drive!

By Paul J |

Take your time and ejoy the views --you have to do it twicwe so enjoy
We crossed on 2 beautiful days so were lucky doing this

Amazing sunset view

By GVG |

This is very nice place for sunset view. It was amazing! A lot of people but we were able to find a parking space.

Beautiful!!!

By glennc51261 |

The drive across the bridge is awesome!!
The view crossing the bridge over open water is beautiful and can be breath taking. Get your camra ready because you're gonna want pictures of this if not a video.

SCENIC OCEAN DRIVE

By kashew99 |

We drove from Miami to Key West on the 7 mile bridge. It is like no other bridge! It goes over the ocean between several islands or 'keys' and it is amazing how the water is so close at some points on the land parts. To think the Atlantic Ocean is on one side and the Gulf of Mexico is on the other side and you are driving right down the middle of it is surreal. The water is varying shimmering shades of blue and green and so clear you can see down into it. The old bridge runs alongside and there are some islands with houses on them. It is not as scary as one would think to be out in the ocean like that, you can see land and things all around you. Key West was very small but so very cool. The buoy at the mile marker 0 is the epitome- it is the southern most point of the US and the ocean and gulf meet there. Truly worth the drive, breathtakingly beautiful.

Morning bike ride

By BrandonA33 |

Great views, parking plentiful, bike or walk. Pigeon key at the end (there is an entrance fee) is a nice place to spend time fishing, picnicking, snorkeling, etc. Guided tour available

Great place to watch the sunset

By j29510 |

Enjoyed my walk and the views are excellent. You can ride your bike, walk or run the bridge. You cannot beat the view while you are on the bridge

Views

By Wombling_Free_7548 |

The views are great, beautiful blue water. You can also see the old bridge for stretches. If you go to the Bahia Honda Park and walk up to the railway bridge you get great views of the seven mile bridge.

Can get very congested so don’t bank on the google maps route times being accurate!

Decent

By T. Childress |

There's not doubt that the view you get while driving is very spectacular but that's about it. Please understand that I've from the hills of North Carolina and love a good drive that offers a great view. Definitely feel that the 7 Mile Bridge was overhyped. It's worth driving across at least once considering what an engineering achievement it is. But you'll get similar views all along US1 as you drive through the Keys.

Vacation

By Mary M |

We drove from Miami to Key West. I thought this would be scary bridge but wasn’t. Straight though and water on each side of bridge.

It is a bridge, with a nice view

By Stefan J |

It’s quite a long bridge, not very high, not very beautiful (architecture wise) but the view over the turquoise water is stunning!

Great place to be this time of year!

By E417UKcynthiag |

While traveling across this bridge we witnessed a beautiful sunset. As we drove over it we were amazed at the engineering that went into this build. So glad we were able to travel over it and see the other keys!!

7 Mile Bridge

By kleinrandy |

Great sightseeing of both the ocean and the bay. Having never been to the Keys, great visual experience!!

Beautiful

By Timothy B |

Very nice view of Florida Bay and Florida Straits. With sunny skies, you get a classic blue shallow waters of the fishing and diving capital of the US

Keys

By Kathy G |

Love the views it's absolutely beautiful! The ride from the upper key, to key west is a easy drive, would do it again.

Delightful drive

By Steven L |

The drive over the bridge and back was enjoyable. The view was delightful, with the water colors on both sides incredibly blue. The vista of the sky and clouds was just as beautiful. It was interesting to see the various types of water craft; one of which appeared to be a work platform with a truck on it in the middle of the ocean.

A true landmark in Florida, and a sight to behold

By Dakota W |

It's just a road. With many bridges. This one is long. It's special because of the broad vistas with Florida Bay to the right and the Atlantic Ocean to the left (heading south). Very special in my heart.

Worth the drive

By redscorp25 |

So beautiful and peaceful - even driving the whole way! We showed our kids some clips from the movie True Lies and they loved it even more.

Great drive overlooking with fantastic views!

By Chad B |

Driving from Key to Key is wonderful. The 7 mile bridge's walking path / Biking path is still under construction. However the views driving over the turquoise waters is worth the drive.

Great views

By PeterTravelAdvisor |

This bridge has a great view of the ocean. Wonderful drive with the great scenery. Speed limit 35 mph seems slow but it is worth it for the view
Make sure your car is full of gas before going on that road

Beautiful landscape!

By Ricardo C |

Seven Mile Bridge is located between Marathon and Bahia Honda State Park. It is a very beautiful bridge, without stops, where you can enjoy the view of the Atlantic Ocean and also the old bridge, which is now used in part for walking and cycling.
Unique feeling and desire to come back again!
Turquoise blue sea and wonderful landscape!

Seven Mile Bridge

By BRIAN B |

Not really an attraction, more of a necessity if your traveling to Key West! The old Keys highway can be seen in Bahia Honda where it was built above the old train right of way. The old highway was closed in '72 so the new one took over. On your way southbound look for the "7 Grill" good food in a local diner!

WOW

By Kathy M |

The views from the views are outstanding. The water on each side and the occasional island made the ride go far too quickly. Especially interesting to see the old bridge on the other side as we were traveling.

Always our favorite

By sts421 |

BUT...the old bridge is closed for a couple of more years for repairs. It was always a favorite to walk that bridge and will be happy when it opens back up.

Long bridge

By Luisa m |

Nice experience!! We were excited to across this bridge, you can see water around from the top of the bridge.

What a beautiful view

By sunsher |

Atlantic Ocean on one side, Gulf on the other. Blue green water that dances with the sunlight. This bridge offers the most magnificent views.

Fantastic experience

By Paul E |

If you’re driving to key west then you’ve got no option other than to travel the overseas highway. Great experience though and seems completely different in each direction

A dream at sunrise

By ramsesp |

While my family was sleeping in the hotel I did a trip in the early morning at sunrise to Little Duck Key.
Words and even a drone picture can't express the giant landscape at sunrise. Simply georgeous. And it's for free.....

Watch the Sunset from here

By James F |

Best sunset I have ever seen was from the bridge. There is some parking at the base of the walking bridge, but it can get crowded.

Nice view..

By Charles B |

I prefer nature but appreciate the building of this Bridge after seeing a movie on it. Worth taking a picture.

Always a beautiful drive over!

Beautiful bridge to drive over and if you’re lucky go under while you’re in a boat. Always a great place to fish.

A wonderful drive!

By Casey1919 |

A unique driving experience. All of the cars got nose to tail and traveled at a reasonable speed and we all enjoyed the drive. Water on both sides of the road and unique views of the old bridge and the blue water. Every one in America should take this drive one time in there life.

Scenic and impressive

By richardemail |

The Overseas Highway is a great drive and the Seven Mile Bridge is the highlight. Stop and the southern end to walk up the pedestrian side and see the old bridge alongside.

As you travel this bridge enjoy the ride and the views

By Ann622 |

From Knights Key to Little Duck Key this is an engineering marvel that showcases its beauty alongside the beauty of the original bridge that sits not far from it. The views of the turquoise, blue and green water from the bridge are incredible.

Yep - it’s 7 Miles Long

By jjbml67 |

No fears for those with bridge phobia. This 7 miles goes by so fast you’d never believe it is 7 miles. I actually checked it on my odometer because I just couldn’t believe it. Simply put, it’s beautiful and you’ll be in awe the first few times going over it. After a while you get used to it. I imagine those who live there pay little mind to it at all.

It’s a long bridge so there really isn’t much more to say about it.

Marathon rises and sets!

By JRoc33141 |

What an amazing experience! We did a sunset and sunrise and both were stunning. It’s worth a stop and getting up early. Rent some bikes! We want to do that next time.

Beautiful water

By Junie B |

The bridge views were beautiful. I stopped and ate at a little pull off after the bridge. Lovely plant life. The views of the water were lovely and low traffic.

Fun Run

By Randy H |

This is a beautiful and historic bridge. Once a year they shut it down for a 7 mile bridge fun run! It is the most scenic sponsored fun run that I have done.

the Gateway to The KEYS

By John L |

Very cool bridge that has a parking spot for cars and trucks. bring your fishing poles or watch others catch fish. lots of sea life to look at . Bring a light sweater because even on hot days the wind can be strong. also No shade on the bridge so bring Sun Block and water.

It sure is LONG

By James F |

We stayed right at the north end of the bridge, so we saw it every morning while eating breakfast and at supper from Isla Bella Beach Resort.

Incredible views

By johart214 |

A must see experience. Incredibly relaxing drive with nothing but great water views. Enjoy the ride on your way to Key West or just take the ride. You won't regret it.

Beautiful View

By Tammy H |

It is great piece of history and nice views. However, there should be public restrooms. The 4.2 miles round trip is a beautiful walk but make sure you are prepared for the heat and have water, sun screen etc.

Impressive Bridge

By ChrisJenn C |

I didn't expect much other than a long bridge but as we arrived it was very impressive to see this one. The best part is just after the bridge there is the best beach in the keys - Bahia Honda which is worth a visit.

The whole time my boys of course reminded me that the bridge is really only 6.8 miles long :-)

Love the views

By stacygouldin |

Absolutely love this drive and the amazing views. Can’t wait to do it again. Scenery is so beautiful.

Nice walk on the fishing bridge

By JadedButPractical |

We drove to the south end and took a walk on the fishing bridge. Great spot to see some larger species, saw a big turtle, some sharks and rays. Gorgeous water late in the afternoon too

Glorious Scenic Drive

By jg3arrow |

This could be as beautiful as anyplace in the Keys, but some folks may argue with you. Marathon at one end, Bahia Honda park at the other, with historic Pigeon Key in the middle. Nothing but turquoise water as far as the eye can see. Great for sunsets, sunrises and fishing from the old road.

A necessary component of travel to Key West if you drive.

By John T |

South of Marathon Key you must drive over the seven mile bridge unless you fly or take a boat. The remains of the Flagler railroad bridge is parallel. Bahia Honda State Park is right at the west end of this bridge—worth a visit.

Summer vacation

By Jim W |

The view from the bridge is awesome, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf on the other. One will thoroughly enjoy the the ride through the Florida keys.

A pleasant drive to Key West (and back)

By BizDev |

We drove over the bridge and then back on the same day. Traffic was moving smoothly (it was a weekday, mid day) at our point. There are opportunities to watch fishing boats and to view the old, abandoned bridge (which is nearby), but little else to see. Having some good music and/or a good friend to pass the time with is definitely advised. Checking traffic conditions is before starting is also advisable.

Absolutely marvelous

By The weekend Tourists |

On a clear sunny day it's absolutely breathtaking great for viewing photography fishing this is a must see

A bridge over untroubled waters

By Bob Dunlap |

Well, it's a bridge, and it's over beautiful water, and it's.....seven miles long. So if you hate bridges like some people, it will be sheer, utter terror; however, if you love crossing bridges instead of burning them, and sunshine on the water makes you high like John Denver (until he died after crashing into the water, ironically enough), then this bridge is for you!

Great scenery and blue water

By mwooduk |

Amazing bridge at Marathon en route to Key West. Water is so gorgeous and views for miles! Hard to believe anyone ever drove on the old bridge that runs parallel - looks so dangerous!

Beautiful views

By lilla-svenska |

Seven miles of beautiful views of both the Atlantic and gulf coast of the Keys from middle keys down to Key West. Great view of the historic Flagler railroad (read up on this and how it was crucial to the development of the Key West area). Two lanes, speed limit is an enforced 45 mph.

Beautiful Ocean Views

By Mary9921 |

I actually have been over this bridge a few times... when I was little on the old bridge.. However, I had the opportunity to go over in this month, May 2019... I didn't remember the views being so breathtaking... got on it by mistake as I was looking for Sombrero Beach.... I am so glad I did... I enjoyed this detour immensely.

nice ride over on a motorcycle

By shamrockarse |

I was worried about going over these bridges on a motorcycle with winds, etc. There was absolutely no issues. We do have a bigger bike (Goldwing) and never felt unsafe. There is something about riding a motorcycle that makes you aware of the smells, sounds and beauty that you don't notice in a closed up car. It brings you closer to nature. We did get a bit sunburnt but other than that, it was a wonderful ride down to the keys. Traffic was not heavy.

Wow

By DarinBoyles |

I’ve been over and under this bridge many times and it never gets old.
The views are unforgettable and. A must for anyone that’s not taken the drive

It's a bridge...

By phinikyphoody |

It's a cool bridge with historical significance, but a bridge nonetheless. 2.5 stars for the history.

Beautiful and great to experience.

By debbie d |

Everyone should do this once. It was awesome and beautiful. You must do this! Only wish I had been in a convertible to fully enjoy.

Always a beautiful drive over!

By KShep |

Beautiful bridge to drive over and if you’re lucky go under while you’re in a boat. Always a great place to fish. Can’t wait to see the new walking bridge.

Beautiful view

By Jules A Roth |

We were bored and went for a drive just to see the view, love how the tree and the bush were decorated for xmas :)

Beautiful Drive

By TravelerCentralFLA |

The Seven Mile Bridge is the bridge connecting Marathon with the lower Keys. It is a beautiful drive over seven miles of water. As we crested the top of the bridge in the middle there was a great view of the water and the Keys. It is an amazing feat to have built a bridge over this much of the water. It's a great drive.

Must experience

By Travel Med Mama |

Even if you don't have to use it to travel at least go for the ride. Most breathtaking views in the Keys. This area is also close to were the Key Deer tend to be. A cute little sight to see.

A beautiful drive to heaven

By Domingo G |

I've traveled this bridge many times. The beauty of the landscape never ceases to amaze me! Hope there is not an accident

Beautiful

By FRiendz |

Between the Golf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ozean 🌊.you can make a brake and watchi the Breath taking views

It is a bridge

By hairywater |

Long, nice views. Drivers should not slow down or look around because they tend to cause major collisions.

Drive the Seven Mile Bridge, you won't regret it!

By Daryl P |

What a great experience with my daughter. Stopped in Marathon, FL on the way down and back. Weather was great. You must do this with a convertible to experience it fully! Highly recommended that you drive this road!

contact with nature

By hrosands |

Nice place to wlk, to enjoy the views, to breathe fresh air, to relax, to stay during sunset, to fish, to boat, to relax

Great views

By Jbloodworth |

We come here every trip down. You have no choice but to cross this on way to Key West. This is a great bridge and I love that you can see the old one still standing! Well made no worries with this bridge!

Drive and Smile

By Delman76 |

Experience of a never to forget! It is 7 miles long! views are stunning, you can see where some films were made on the old bridge which runs along side, enjoy the drive.

Spectacular Drive Awesome View

By Localgirl252 |

The bridge was built in 1982 with a crest of 65’, the height point in the Keys. The bridge crosses the 4 mile Bahia Honda Channel. Park on the south side of the bridge and get out and walk on the old railroad bridge. See turtles and fish. Talk to the fisherman. Truly a wonder to see. North end of bridge is closed for restoration.

Beautiful drive

By Tara T |

Such a pretty drive over this bridge! Cool place at the end (south) to park on walk on the pedestrian bridge alongside.

Seven miles of beautiful views

By Maladebordoporai |

KEY WEST - We were going by plane from Fort Lauderdale to Key West, but we were advised to go by car. It was about 4 hours of travel and the seven miles were worth it. Truly a different trip with incredible views. But I imagine it wouldn't be any fun on a rainy day!

Nice update

By DutchLace |

Was here many yrs ago when you could drive onto Pigeon Key. Now its a bird refuge and have to pay to get to the beach and buildings. So that part of history has been and will be lost. However the 2 mile (4 miles total) bridge walk is a nice way to stretch your legs and enjoy the views. Bikes welcome. No fishing on bridge which we appreciated. Limited parking.

Lots and lots of water...

By John K |

Driving across the bridge, you realize how much water there is in the area. We also saw the bridge from the air and it gave it another unique perspective.

This is heaven

By chinchilla520 |

Driving along the seven Mile bridge was such an unforgettable experience! I literally felt a bit excited and a bit scary that how could it on the earth be built on the endless ocean?! It felt like "sailing " on the sea by CAR, and the scene was absolutely stunning! Although the drive was long (like 3-4 hours from Miami), but the view definitely worth the try!

It’s a bridge! Good vie for about 8 minutes.

By JIm T |

Not a lot else to say, in a car at least, u can’t stop and take photos

I guess on the old bridge u could at least cycle and take more time.

Beautiful, historic and awesome!

By Jean D |

Take the time to read the history and walk the old bridge. It's so beautiful and truly an historic feat. Don't just drive the bridge but enjoy it from below, too.

Unbelievable sight

By jane |

truly unbelievable when you're driving over the Seven Mile Bridge and you look side to side and see nothing but teal blue water all around you.

Cormorants everywhere

By barkus1968 |

This is such a beautiful drive. It’s best as a passenger so you can see the water and the birds. The entire drive through the keys outstanding.

Beautiful !

By Steve from the M |

Don't be in a hurry - signs say that the police don't mess around. Traffic was steady but thoughtful drivers allowed a stress free drive to and from beautiful Key West.

Went To Key West Florida

By Junito Crespo |

I enjoyed the ride beautiful scenery Paradise you will enjoy the 7 mile drive everywhere you look is water

Amazing - Do it if you can

By Lkmann |

I am giving this the full 5 stars because if you can make it happen, you should do this at least once. Don't expect to see anything special from Miami to Key Largo and then you will pass along a lot of highway that you don't see ocean. When you get closer to Key West, you start seeing spots of ocean and then you get here. It is a great feeling of anticipation as you are headed toward a lot of fun in Key West, at least for the first time. I really enjoyed it and got some Go Pro video.
We did it and in a Jeep which was awesome. However, I am not opposed to flying into KW for a quicker trip and a long weekend. KY is about 18 hours away.

One of the best drives anywhere.

By mikeej99 |

I would recommend the drive from Key Largo all the way to Key West as one of the best in the world. We have driven the Alaska Hiway, the Top of the world hiway, the hall road to Prudoe Bay, the Julian Alps loop, the Dolomites loop and many others and are in love with the kaleidoscope of colors in the sea around the keys. The hiway follows the historic route of the Flagler railroad which is also very interesting. We have enjoyed this drive several times and it never gets old. We recommend avoiding it on the weekends as it can get very congested. The seven mile bridge, Marathon area, is one of the most scenic parts of the drive.

Best free view in the Southern 48

By Arthur P |

What can be said. It's a first driving 7 miles over the ocean . Be sure to pull over at a safe spot and take it all in. It will be worth it.

If you are in the keys, you just have to ride the Seven Mile Bridge

By Carolien |

It is something you do when you are there. Probably the most beautiful part of the road towards Key West

Well you can’t miss this that’s for sure!

By StephenCross |

You have to drive over it so take a few photos and enjoy! It’s a once off and you can imagine the issues that arise when the Keys have to be evacuated.

7 mile roadtrip

By Ole |

Ever since reading "the voyage to key west" (ducktales) as a kid, I've wanted to travel the road to Key West. Seven mile bridge comes perfectly towards the final destination, and really makes one feel just how far into the ocean this is. Impressive construction!

Would've loved more possibilies to stop and make pictures along the road, but a cool experience and nice drive anyway.

Great view

By hkh252 |

Nice walk and view. You can do a short or long walk. Water is very pretty. Park at south end of bridge.

Amazing experience

By Maxine Banks |

I was unprepared for the stunning experience that driving over this bridge ended up being - the sea on both sides of the road, small islands, some inhabited and some not (but always with a palm tree or two). Fishing boats. Paddle boarders. Bird and sea life. It was wonderful as we went from Marathon Key to the next one. I have never done anything quite like it.

A drive over the ocean.

By Michael S |

Nothing else like it. When you drive through the Keys, sometimes it's easy to forget that you are island hopping. The view on each key is usually limited to the immediate surroundings, which are not necessarily that impressive. You could just as easily be anywhere else in southern Florida.
But when you get out on the Seven Mile Bridge, it is obvious where you are. It is a great view of open water in any direction, as well as a few small islands here and there. The blues are intense. It's easy to see shallow from deep water just from the changes in colors. Quite a different road trip experience.

Great time!

By tonygarner12 |

Beautiful bridge with amazing views of the water in both sides! There are neat places to visit before and after the bridge!

Beautiful view

By Angie B |

Beautiful drive over some gorgeous water!!! Such a beautiful scenic area. Kept looking for reasons to drive back and forth over the bridge.

Crazy long bridge

By Cash_me_outside |

It’s worth the drive to check this bridge out. It was one of the highlights of our drive to key west.

Tour Pigeon Isle/Seven Mile Bridge

By Yvonne B |

We went on a Trolley tour of Marathon and the guide on that tour told us about the tour of the Seven Mile Bridge. So the next day we scheduled a tour of the Seven Mile Bridge and Pigeon Isle. CT our tour guide was amazing and very informative. We got to ride in a small train to Pigeon Isle and after her presentation we were able to walk around and take photos at our own pace.

Nice job on the renovation

By E. Cartmann |

They did a nice job on the re-build portion to Pigeon Key, exactly 2.0 miles from the mainland, markers every 10th a mile. Old bridge was a bit bumpy to ride a bike, new surface very smooth. New handrailing nice and protective. If your a walker or bike rider, a must, two miles out on the water, we saw osprey, rays, the tarpon fishermen fighting a fish. Bike lane and walking lane marked both directions to keep it safe and peaceful. About (20) parking spots. Nice ramped access at the beginning of the bridge to the water level.

Beautiful drive.

By Christiana R |

This is such a beautiful drive. The water is so blue and seems to go on forever. You just wish you can dive right in. There are spots on the bridge where you can get amazing pictures of the bridge itself. Be on the look out. Such a wonderful experience of being in the keys.

Love it!!

By HelloLewman |

It’s a nice ride. Rent a convertible and ride with the top down!! There are no stop offs but you don’t need them. Nice view!
