Whether you stop by and have dinner some place close, or just want to kill a little time as you are waiting for dinner or friends to show, this is the thing to do. The walk especially late afternoon is just superb!

By Jeff S |

This was a great surprise. Didn't know what to expect, but it was very cool. Beautiful views, birds, boats, water, and people watching. Just a great place to spend a couple hours before going to one of the bars or restaurants. Awesome.

There is an extensive boardwalk and paths through marsh where all types of sea-life can be observed. On Shem Creek there are dolphins, seagulls, pelicans, shrimp boats, sail and powerboats, fishermen, paddle boarders and kayakers to watch. At the end of the boardwalk you can see out into Charleston Harbor. There are many nice restaurants surrounding the area to have lunch or dinner while you are there. Our grandkids always thoroughly enjoy the cornucopia of sights and sounds to be experienced here.

By Kayleen C |

There is a lot of nature to see here and the signs are informative. It's incredible to have this to share with people.

By PHE22 |

Due to high heat was only able to visit a small part of it. But it had wonderfully walkways out to the side of harbour. Must visit again in a February when I will be able to enjoy it more. Saw dolphins in the creek.

By acmbraun |

Great boardwalk hike over marshy area with lots of birds. Fun to watch kayakers and fisihing boats. Visiting here saved our day when the government shutdown closed down Fort Sumter and the Charles Pinckney Historic Site.

By Michael B |

Stopped by the sort of new Shem Creek park one morning. It was so peaceful and right on the water with places for walking and sitting.

By Dell53 |

Walking through the park on the boardwalk was a pleasant experience. We enjoyed seeing birds and boats and marsh. After the walk we had lunch at Vickery‘s.

By napngs |

A nice day to walk along Shem's Creek. There is a great pier on both sides of the creek filled w/ bars & restaurants. The wooden walk extend out on to the tidal flats. You can explore the length of it. There are numerous educational signs to explain the habitat and the creatures that live here. Fishing is allowed here. At low tide you can see the abundant clumps of oysters that are the source of the creek's fame. This is also where the shrimp boats dock.
Very popular spot for locals, families, & tourist. You can get a good stretch of the legs over an hour and then head to creekside bars & restaurants for food, drink, and some sitting in the sun. It's open to all sunrise to sunset. Wheelchair & stroller accessible. Great for kids. Photogenic. Paid parking nearby.
Very good walk on a sunny day.

By HRIII |

Enjoyable boardwalk to stroll to see the area sights after a good meal at one of the adjacent restaurants.

By Linda C |

Walking along the boardwalks you come across shrimp boats, kayakers, the sea and lots of wild life. If you go on the day of the OysterFestival, there are lots of people out and about with a live band and lots of good food.

By Jeff D |

Beautiful setting with lots of bars and restaurants right on the water. Younger crowd. Nice boardwalk to walk along. Had fun watching all the boats go by. Also saw bunch of pelicans and even a dolphin

By Patricia I |

This is always a beautiful and relaxing place to visit. Despite Covid you can distance yourself and immerse in the tranquility it has to offer.

By Kathy M |

It is always fun to watch small boats going in and out of the Shem creek to the ocean. Pelicans are plentiful. Beautiful view from the board walk. Even if you just spend half an hour walking you will be amazed at the views from all sides.

By Visionary Traveler |

This is a nice walk if you are already near by. I wouldn't go out of my way...
That being said the views are very nice

By Tom M |

While I was at Shem Creek Park, we walked along looking at the marsh and the fiddler crabs. You can catch the Water Taxi to cross the harbor and be dropped off at The Acquarium or Water Front Park. A Great Way to see Charleston from the Harbor. Along Shem Creek and see Pete the Pelican, a recycled replica of a Pelican that sits in the Gazebo going to the Park. Great Way to relax.

By Sgt Jasper |

Much has been written about the beauty of the Shem Creek Park in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina so why is Sergeant Jasper weighing in? There is no easy answer but it may be that he has a long-term view of the area. Sgt. Jasper grew up along Shem Creek where he practiced his swimming and attempted fishing. In the 1950’s the creek was wild with no restaurants bordering it and no boardwalks. It was beautiful, and still is, despite development and that is thanks to those who struggle to keep developers from destroying it. The man-made feature of the Creek in the fifties was the fleet of shrimp boats moored three abreast at times. The Sergeant’s brothers-in-law operated one of those boats and a fond memory is of the christening of the SKIPPER AND WAYNE, now considered an historical vessel. What the boardwalk, or park, has done for the Creek is to make its beauty available to more citizens and at no cost to them at the gate, so to speak. It is not correct to say the park is free because everything has a cost but in this case the cost is not covered necessarily by the users. Residents of Mt. Pleasant shoulder the heaviest load through their taxes, property and sales. Outsiders like Sgt. Jasper who lives on Sullivan’s Island (and where else would Sgt. Jasper live but Sullivan’s Island on Jasper Blvd?) also pay with sales taxes at Mt. Pleasant retail outlets and eateries. Anyone who spends anything in Mt. Pleasant pays something toward the establishment and maintenance of wonderful sites like the Shem Creek Park. So, admission is “free” and parking is easy most of the time. The walk from the entrance and back is less than a mile although the Sergeant’s pedometer always shows more than a mile because he wanders a bit along the way, back tracks, etc. The air is clean and fresh and the men and women fishing and just enjoying the atmosphere are friendly and pleasant. There is no downside to a visit to the Shem Creek Park. Oh, of interest to us Golden Agers, there are many places to sit and some of them are out of the sun. Have your camera at the ready because unexpected sights abound. Have a nice walk!

By Khadejah627 |

Wonderful waterway where you can view dolphins up and down the creek, paddle boarders and canoers moseying along. Nautical scenery for just enjoying the summer breeze! no need to do anything but just be there and watch all the beauty of a little known place.

By Bob J |

This is not a park in the conventional sense. It is a series of boardwalks over the tidewater marshes along Shem Creek. You get a close-up view of the marsh and people fishing or crabbing along the boardwalk. The best part is seeing the shrimp boat that dock there and seeing the fishing boats unload their catch at the end of the day. You can tell why the restaurants there have fresh seafood. I believe you can even buy your own there too.
Come for sunset pictures.

By Jay W |

Pulled in at dusk with my boat. Caught the sunset before walking along the marsh to our restaurant. What a beautiful view and experience to see the marsh, the boats and the houses.

By Holiday Utopia |

Stunning place to visit and it’s free to park and free to visit.

It was a beautiful June evening to walk the boardwalk and chill at the viewing point and catch the sunset. We watched people fish whilst happy families, cute couples and the odd dog or two came and went, all leaving with smiles.

Such a beautiful peaceful place, and if you fancy you can pop into any of the bar restaurants and enjoy the scenery even more.

By Kimberly T |

I loved the elevated walkway through the creek but it’s not a 2 mile walk and it’s not very scenic only restaurants and a few bars. Took only an hour to go thru stopped at cabana bar for a drink stated a docked shrimp boats

By lynnridge |

We ate lunch at V’s and then took a stroll through the park. It was beautiful day in mid October. Found out later this is where scenes from Outer Banks season 1 were filmed.

By RonnieG |

We parked for free and walked the pier after our dinner close by. The tide and fog were coming in and made for incredible views. This is a nice free activity to get you moving.

By easiwin1948 |

This boardwalk starts at the main road and goes all most to the harbor. It is built over the marsh and is really a pleasant walk. It is quiet.

By Julianne M |

This park has plenty of parking and is a great place to take the family to see the shrimp boats come in and the wildlife of the low country. This area also has a lot of restaurants that have great views.

By uptowngirl57 |

Wonderful way to experience Shem Creek without a boat or a dinner reservation! Take the walk to the end...well worth it.

By Lolly’s Look |

Shem Creek has a long pier that you can walk to get a view of the waterfront. We took
A boat trip out and enjoyed it on the water too.

By Heather J |

This park is great for taking a quick stroll. Walk along shem creek and see all the shrimp boats come in from a long day at sea. Keep your eyes out for the dolphins who swim in and out of the canal every day. This is also a perfect spot to watch the sunset!

By RonF68CLT |

We tried three different restaurants at Shem Creek in a week stay at the Cottages at Patriot's Point. Charleston veteran, but first time staying on the Mount Pleasant side. Walked out on the marsh walkways, ate at Water's Edge, Vickeries and Red's. Red's was cheaper but not quite as good, the other two were really good. Watched the shrimp boats coming in and the fishing charters do their thing. A couple shops and a seafood store to visit, plus ice cream.

By Denise C |

Great walk and they keep adding more walk ways and features. Love to bring the grandkids here to see the shrimp fleet. Wonderful to see working boats up close. Very impressive to the kids.

By dt1064 |

Lovely boardwalk over the marsh! awesome sunsets!!!!! Lots of birds and wildlife. Walked this each morning and evening while staying at the Shem Creek Inn. Never wanted to leave!

By sherrycat |

Oh such a nice place to walk! We stayed at Shem Creek Inn and walked the boardwalk every day looking at all the boats and birds. Fun to watch the fisherman cleaning their daily catches and all the pelicans eagerly awaiting scraps. Nice to read the signs along the way with history and bird, fish and marsh info. Make sure you walk to the very end and also the walk all the way back to the restroom area. Easy walk for all.

By RobynMR |

What a glorious spot, great boardwalk, peaceful, quiet and birds galore....I even saw a dolphin. We all loved it.

By Kev G |

While staying at the Isle of Palms we planned a day trip to downtown Charleston. Shem Creek Park was on the way and we made a point of stopping to check it out. Visiting at 10am on a July morning seemed to be an ok time to experience the park because there were very few people there. Love the Pete de Plastic Pelican sculpture and info on things harming the environment and endangering wildlife. It was a pleasant walk along the modest boardwalk but the direct sun will become a factor by the time you get to the end overlooking the water. It is a very short but scenic place with many cool things along the stretch to check out. We did spot a dolphin and the most cool thing to me were the fiddler crabs dancing about in the shallow areas along the side of boardwalk. There were a few people casting nets for fish and people on the water and a couple of restaurants are right next to this park. I see why this park is special at sunrise and sunset.

By Traveling4Fun111 |

A nice place to visit with a good selection of restaurants to choose from or just to watch the water.

By Melissa S |

It doesn’t get much better then this! A beautiful walk on the Shem Creek! Well kept fishing pier with benches and clean restrooms! We really enjoy our walks here.

By clr22015 |

There are several restaurants along Shem Creek that are well worth the visit, all enhanced by an after-dinner walk along the water. Dolphins often play here, shrimp boats come and go, and paddle boarders drift along the calm waters of the creek. It's a safe and romantic walk for people of all ages.

By Masontravel |

It was hot but it is a pleasant short walk. Watch for crabs in the mud and a lot of birds. Easy parking off the road.

By grayson_trout2003 |

Right on the shrimp boat area. Neat walkway that circles around to Vickey's. A must see. You might get lucky and see the dolphins.

By AnthonyT3106 |

Beautiful landscape. view of the ocean. Great bars and restaurants to visit. If you come to the Greater Charleston area this is a must see.

By roberto61 |

Nice place to view fishermen, boats and birds. Lovely boardwalk and places to sit along the way. Warm weather, sun and breeze. Who could ask for more?

By Betsy E |

We stopped by Shem Creek Park on our first night in Charleston. Loved walking along all the boardwalks. Plus, there's a lot of restaurants on the water as well. Supposedly it's a good place to see dolphins as well, but we didn't see any at this location.

By ann m |

Really enjoyed the area. The boardwalk is very well maintained, the scenery is beautiful, and the dolphins were playing very close to the shrimp boats.

By Jomarie10 |

After our meal we went out of the restaurant and walked on the boardwalk. Lovely view and we watched as The shrimpers offloaded their cargo. Saw the dolphins as they cavorted along the waterway. Highly recommend.

By jtlayne2018 |

Beautiful dock with restaurants surrounding. Fishing and crabbing along the dock. Public restrooms. Kids favorite part was watching the crabs in the marsh.

By Gina C |

Love the serene scenery with the native "feel" to it. You cant deny this is a top destination in Mt Pleasant. Close to museums, restaurants, and nature walks!

By drpaulDallas |

Great little boardwalk hike with views of the marshes and water near pleasant restaurants. Easy parking. Worth a visit.

By Ryan G |

I love taking the whole family to Shem Creek park for lots of different types of events. We have even held our Cub Scout outings there on multiple occasions for short walks through nature with the scouts. We have encountered every type of fisherman, crabber and shrimper and have even tried a little fishing ourselves. I love the boardwalks right over the tidal creeks and marsh tributaries of Shem Creek.

By bogeyjeans |

This is a nice boardwalk park. We did not see any special bird life but i am sure tides and time of day impact that.

By Kathy A |

We took a spur-of-the moment nature walk around Shem Creek just by following the boardwalk out and around from behind the Water's Edge Cabana Bar. Pretty and picturesque, this was a perfect "after happy hour" stroll!

By TravelMiami_Florida |

Very nice boardwalk over the marsh area. The boardwalk is also next to a harbor where you might see dolphins.
It's does not take long to visit but there are a few benches at the end if you want to sit and enjoy the sunset it would be a good place.

By Al A |

We were very surprised at how long the boardwalk extended into the marshes and out to a platform that allowed a terrific view of the Bay. The myriad wildlife and beautiful evening made a picture perfect time with my bride.

By Gjhgirl |

We had no idea how beautiful it was here. We walked the entire pier. It is such a lovely place by the ocean, shrimp boat, and restaurants. A lot of beauty and fun here.

By Rozie Cejovic |

Stunning and pristine views of the water, you can spot wildlife in the summer and the surrounding restaurants in Mt. Pleasant are filled with fun times and quality people..

By lilwendigirl |

Just a beautiful spot for sunsets. We saw dolphins and got take some great family photos.the salt marshes are just gorgeous. And there are dining options all over. Some people work out on the trail but it was not long (under a mile down and back).

By Dogsnips |

It was a nice walk over the marsh. We could watch the shrimp boats and the local boats. Parking was good until the restaurants started to get busy.

By William McAndrew |

Super nice walkway over the Spartina marsh. Saw lots of fiddler crabs and a few dolphin. People at the end of the pier were catching blue crabs. Great sunset view. Walked back via Shem Creek with views of the shrimp boats.
Thourgly enjoyably

By AmeliaD62 |

Of all the local places to walk or just sit on a pier and relax as the boaters, paddle boarders, and kayakers go by, this is my favorite! The boardwalk features historic markers along the way for tourists to learn about the history of Shem Creek dating back to the Civil War era. At the end of the boardwalk is a beautiful spacious gazebo where visitors or fishermen will find the ideal spot with views for enjoying the water, boaters, or catching fresh fish or crab (bring your own equipment for fishing). I was there crabbing in the late afternoon as diners from the local harbor fine dining establishments strolled out to see the sunset over the water. Shem Creek Park has public restrooms near the parking area off Coleman Blvd, about one half mile from the gazebo. Perfect for romantic picnics, evening walks, family walks, fishing, enjoying the sights and sounds of Shem Creek and Charleston Harbor.

By hbhakh |

We stopped at the boardwalk after dinner in Mt. Pleasant. It's a very nice area at the shore of Shem Creek with a boardwalk running through the marsh. It's a nice walk with nice views of the water and nearby activity.

By smmoore07 |

Very nice area to walk, enjoy the sights on the water, spend a quiet afternoon, see the sunset. Plenty of parking, several great restaurants for meals or drinks and appetizers. One of Charleston's many beautiful areas to experience.

By C M |

This is my first time visiting Shem Creek Park. It is such an amazing area with wonderful walkways and occasional wildlife and wonderful views of shrimp boats. Plenty of parking and a couple of restaurants, although we did not visit them. Will definitely return.

By janicew429 |

We enjoyed walking the 2,200 feet boardwalk after a lovely dinner at a nearby seafood restaurant overlooking Shem Creek. Wonderful views of marsh, Family friendly.

By 934RebeccaK |

If I could give this park 10 stars, I would. It is absolutely beautiful. There is a long walking bridge where you can stroll and see local wildlife, including dolphins, manatees, herons... And the sunset views here are amazing. You can sit and relax, fish, people-watch at the local restaurants, or watch boats as they come in. Don't miss this if you're in the area.

By heliophil |

If you like watching boats, sea life and a nice variety of places to get good food, you'll love this area. Spent a day wandering the docks, eating and drinking. Would've rented kayaks had we known about it.

By Sue r |

great place to take in the beautiful scenery ! walk by marsh land restaurants and bars boats and shrimp boats. beautiful view of Charleston harbor at the end. you can also fish if you have a license.

By MGordonCharlotte_NC |

A fun place to walk along a nice long boardwalk, watch the birds, maybe some small craft boating activity and definitely a place to enjoy (and photograph) some great shrimping boats! Some areas are gated and are private access to the shrimp boat owners however you can still get a wonderful view of the boats from the public sections. Joggers and dog walkers were there the morning I stopped - very friendly and personable. Don't miss this great park if you enjoy some water views and a lovely board walk 'tour' of the area. Several restaurants are close by if you are looking for a cup of coffee, a bite to eat or a cold beer.

By Cheryll W |

I hesitate to let anyone know how wonderful this place is since it can become crowded some days. It is truly a beautiful place!

By Trailblazer07 |

We had lunch at Vickery’s and then walked on the Shem creek Park boardwalk. Great views of nature and the boats. We’ll probably return again before leaving the area.

By Wine Enthusiast 88 |

This is the best way to start off your day! Even if you have children or a large group of people, the walking path throughout this park is a worth while experience. In the early morning you will see dozens of shrimping boats bringing in their daily catches ranging from shrimp to smaller sized fished. And on a clear day you can see the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. The walkway is alongside the fishermen's dock so you can get an up close look of the boats. Since this park is completely off the beaten path you are ensured peace and quiet regardless of the number of visitors present. Public restrooms and water fountains are also available onsite.

By Shaun M |

I'm a local and we come out here quite often for the views. Especially if you're dining at one of the Shem Creek restaurants, take the time to walk out on the new boardwalk to the end. The views at sunrise and sunset are fantastic, and you'll see tons of fiddler crabs. This part of Shem Creek is almost a guarantee to see Dolphins as well. Very relaxing spot to sit and relax!

By _aurora_ib10 |

The creek is a great spot for eating, drinking and water activities. it's a place to watch fishing boats, grab a drink or just relax on a bench and wait for the dolphins to surface in the creek! the view is just great. The creek is a good spot for walks at anytime and especially during sunset, it's breathtaking.

By Sherri W |

After feeling stuffed at Pages Okra Grill, we needed a place to walk off our indulgence. This is unlike many parks we’ve been to with statues and fountains. This “park” allows you to walk out over marsh land on connecting piers. It connects to several eating establishments as well so if you were interested you could stop by for drinks or walk from your dinner out over the water. Several folks were boating and fishing here. There was plenty of wildlife to observe as well. We sat for a while and just enjoyed the beautiful day!

By Tim M |

Nice area to walk plenty to see and usually breeze Feel close to the water and beautiful scenery Dogs are welcome on the walk.

By Keith H |

Nice place for a sundown excursion. Grab a drink in a local bar and watch the sun go down with Charleston in the background.

By Deidra |

Definitely make time to walk the boardwalk. This is a lovely, peaceful area to enjoy the evening breeze and catch a sunset. Loved watching several big container ships out in the distance and seeing everyone’s boats along the marina. There are several spots toward the end of the pier where you can sit for a while and soak in the beauty. Truly a nice place to leisurely walk and enjoy nature. There are many restaurants along the water, full of night life nearby.

By Charles1019 |

This was right next to our restaurant. We took a nice slow long walk when we were done eating. Very relaxing and enjoyed looking at the commercial boats tied up at the docks after a long day.

By Decker M |

We live here in Mt Pleasant and love Shem Creek, great food and there is always something going on to keep everyone’s interest. Easy access and always welcome by everyone.

By drewpdawg |

I went there with my buddies to fish. The fishing was okay but the views were excellent. The dock is very clean and accessible. Parking is close by.

By Sten |

Beautiful scenery while you walk off some of the calories from a good meal. Gorgeous day to take in the fresh air and sunshine.

By Jillyjillyjilly |

It's a nice place to see wildlife and get a nice nature walk on a long pier. You walk along seeing nature, wildlife, and can finish walking along the pier with fishing boats and restaurants all along the way. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon

By Carol O |

This "park" is really a wide, well maintained boardwalk over the water. Great for viewing birds, fishermen, shrimp boats, etc. No dolphins while we were there. Easy walk for younger children or older people. Very beautiful surroundings.

By Susie Snowflake |

Very nice for a morning or evening stroll along the water. Might not be so pleasant in the broiing mid day sun though as there is little if any shade. Shrimp boats and pleasure boats are part of the passing scene. There are descriptive markers along the way that explain the park. You can rent a kayak at one end of the and spend some time paddling or just walk away an hour on the boardwalk. Nice breezes on a good day can be cooling. There was plenty of parking at 10 AM on a weekday.

By RColestock |

Had a very relaxing time walking the park with my partner and daughter. My daughter brought her camera and took some cool pictures.

By Ben M |

Not much of a park as parks go. Beautiful plain boardwalk. Photography. Dolphins, pelicans, sea gulls etc. Nice walk.

By languages2013 |

The boardwalk has been extended ,and a leisurely stroll above the marsh the length of Shem Creek is a great way to exercise and enjoy one of the unique habitats in the Charleston area. People walking their dogs, families with children , locals and vacationers, all are friendly and greet each other with a smile or " Good-day ". Facilities are provided for those who enjoy fishing, and, on a practical matter , parking is available and there are restrooms.
The boardwalk circles back beside the creek and there are two easily accessible restaurants. Finish the outdoor experience with a meal on the verandah above the marsh and watch the boats , with pelicans and seagulls waiting to share the catch of the day.

By Texcarolinian |

We enjoyed Page’s Okra Grill and then a walk down the pier at Shem Creek. We were able to watch the boats, paddle boards and kayaks leave and enter the marina as well as the sun go down as our evening ended. The kids enjoyed the finale of ice cream at the end of the pier before leaving the Shem area. Prices for the ice cream were average.

By Donna R |

Shem Creek Park is a long boardwalk/dock that goes along Shem Creek. It is a wonderful place to see the shrimp boats come in along with dolphins and pelicans. It is peaceful in the morning and you can see a beautiful sunset in the evening. Totally worth checking out

By Karen123WV |

The boardwalk was a nice stroll after dinner. The sunset over the bridge was pretty spectacular. There are signs telling about the wildlife and the history of the area.

By MominOC |

this is a pretty area with an elevated boardwalk over the marsh. Very typical of this area of the country.

By Julian P |

Shem Creek Park is a great area to walk along waterfront of the creek and see fishing boats , many restaurants/ bars/ shops

By Leslie F |

We were visiting in Charleston for the first time and got a ride-share to check out Shem Creek Park before dinner in Mt. Pleasant. The boardwalk offered beautiful views and an easy late afternoon/early evening walk.

By TravelingTraci |

We visited Shem Creek twice during our recent visit. We had a wonderful time hanging out on the pier watching the boats. Very relaxing place!

By Jeff A |

We totally enjoyed staying and walking around the Shem Park area. What a beautiful place to take a long stroll along the boardwalk in the morning or evening. The shrimp boats are within feet of the boardwalk and there is constant traffic on the waterway. Lots of restaurants and bars to stop into and have a bite to eat or something cold to drink. Area is very clean and enjoyable.

By Culture827141 |

Shem Creek Park is beautiful but not quite a park in the sense you would normally think. It’s more of a walkway along the marsh and back around the boat dock area.

By Jim R |

Great place to grab a bite to eat and have an adult beverage or two! Love watching all the water traffic coming and going while enjoying some sunshine.

By Jill M |

The expansion and completion of the Shem Creek Boardwalk and Park is a great accomplishment for MT Pleasant! Tourists, locals, birders, lovers all enjoy the scenery and safe area for a long stroll. Not many places where you can get so close to shrimp boats, huge Pelicans and shiny happy people. Kayaks, paddle boards and dogs captaining their owners powerboat entertain you while you wait for the best place to watch the sun set over the Holy City.

By LoveTravel626979 |

Park near the restrooms free and easy to get back across the highway at the redlight. It was a very enjoyable walk out on the boardwalk with great views.

By ggazcamper |

We love to walk the long boardwalk out into the marsh. Our camera club has been there many times. There are some Pelicans who pose well for pictures! Shrimp boats line both sides of the channels, and are very picturesque. The marsh is beautiful. At the end of the pier you can catch site of the large freighters as they enter Charleston harbor. In the distance, you can see the classic Ravenaugh Bridge. Near the local bridge, at the head of the channel lined by the boardwalk, there are excellent waterfront restaurants. All in all, it's a very serene and lovely place to visit.

By TinaB |

This park was recommended to us to view dolphins, as we were told they usually follow the shrimp boats in to eat the rejects fishermen throw overboard.
We got almost all the way to the water when we were stopped by a film crew and told we couldn't proceed any further. There were lots of unhappy pedestrians as it is a public park. So we never saw dolphins.

By Michael Fiale |

What the beautiful scenery for sunset walk on a brand new Pierce and walkways with chances to see fisherman boats just beautiful

By Nicky C |

We loved our experience at Shem creek. I purchased some Shem creek coffee and brought it home to Maryland, best coffee!!! Wish I would have bought more then one bag. We loved the ice cream and gift shop as the young lady working in there was so friendly to us and our young boys and very informative. We also loved seeing all of the Shrimp boats and the pier. Great experience ❤️

By Gjhgirl |

A nice walk down the pier to the ocean. Fishing, boati g kayaking plus more. Large fishing boats dock here. You will not regret a visit here.

By Tom B |

We decided to go here primarily because someone mentioned in a review seeing porpoises here. Which we did see. Lots of birds and other wildlife in the area. Nice place to walk and enjoy nature.

By Alison S |

What a spectacular place to take in sunset over water and marsh. You will certainly view pelicans and other birds, and it is likely you’ll see a dolphin or two surface as well. Post sunset, there are several spots to have drinks, dinner or a light snack. Or if you prefer, continue your stroll and watch the stars appear. Also delightful in the morning; I’ve observed manatees a few times in late summer. During warmer months it’s best to go when there is a breeze to avoid annoying insects.

By Susan S |

We stopped by and took advantage of the restrooms. And then we walked out on the boardwalk. Wow. The farther you get the more quiet it gets and you hear the sounds of nature. It was great and we wished we could stay. The restaurants and bars contributed noise the later it got. We wished we had brought or phones to catch the birds.

By Charles Aimar Jr. |

Parking can be a hassle during peak seasons. It may be worth it to use the new parking garages. Towing is enforced at all restaurants. Walk out to the very end and you may see dolphins! Dog friendly area.

Warning: After big rain or extreme high tide you may not be able to get in your car. park on high ground!

By R.Hankins |

Nice afternoon walk along the boardwalk. We enjoyed reading the signs and looking at nature. Spotted many birds, crabs and fish. There were places to sit. Able to look at the fishing boats. Nice walk.

By sc40sumthin |

Very nice boardwalk with beautiful views! We enjoyed watching dolphins, pelicans, and boaters. Beautiful park with restroom facilities.

By Kenda L |

Really enjoyed walking the boardwalk, reading the informational signs, and enjoying the sites after a yummy lunch on Shem Creek. Hope to return to do kayaks!

By Tom C |

Shem Creek is just a short drive from downtown Charleston.. If you enjoy exploring shops, waterfront bars and restaurants; Shem Creek is a “must do” on your trip to Charleston... Views, Food and Brews.

By TheHungryDetective |

The Hungry Detective enjoys this little slice of heaven on Sundays in particular. Sit by the water or go for a walk and explore all the boats and wildlife on the water!!!

VERDICT: A must stop when your in the area.

By Melissa K |

What a Great place to walk by the water after dinner! Just like the scene of a Nicholas sparks novel...

By Pathfinder300732 |

Yep, this is a pretty place to take a walk. We had two adult couples...little kids wouldn’t have much to do.

By blt762017 |

I love boardwalks! This is close to many restaurants and makes for a great after dinner stroll. Views of the sunset and Ravenal bridge.

By Teresa K |

We were recently at Shem Creek and noticed the park. We ate dinner and decided to walk on the boardwalk. It was a long but enjoyable walk. We loved the informative boards along the boardwalk. We learned a good bit of information. We got to the end and were enjoying the view when we looked down and spotted a crab swimming in the water. Such a wonderful quiet place to enjoy all that God made!

By NameTaken24 |

Very well kept and nice. Boardwalks are nice and there are great views of Shem Creek and wildlife. There is some litter in the marshlands, unfortunately, but probably not very easy to clean out.

By bellaskeeper |

You will want to be near the creek when the shrimp boats come in. Dolphins and pelicans are everywhere to get the leftovers.

By Joy |

Beautiful Park! Eat down at Shem Creek and then walk at dusk and watch boats coming in and bar scene, its beautiful

By DDBOPP |

We enjoyed an adult beverage and watching the dolphins playing from the boardwalk. Wonderful place to watch the sunset. Very relaxing!

After having lunch in nearby waterfront restaurant (there are many to choose from), this is a nice way to take in natural scenery along the waterway (pelicans, boats, oysters, marsh) and work off a few calories!

By charlestonmel |

When we have guests with children we love to take this walk. It’s a nice short walk with kids, along a boardwalk. Sometimes people are out fishing off the docks and you can see what they have caught. We have also been able to see some Manatees in the creek. Vickery’s is a great place to eat lunch or dinner and then take the walk.

By mangojuice4u |

We love going here, it’s fun to walk up the boardwalk and see other shrimping boats. Most of the time you can see dolphins out in the creek. It’s also enjoyable to walk to the end to see what the fishermen are catching.

By CJ A |

Good place to carry family and to walk out on the marsh also lots of places to eat fun place to go with kids enjoy looking at the water

By mkg789 |

Beautiful boardwalk across the marsh and over Shem Creek. Tucked away...don’t miss it. Wonderful spot to stroll after a meal. Lovely views for photos. Great views of the waterway and across the Charleston harbor.

By Angie S |

Enjoyed walking around after lunch at Vickery’s and seeing the wildlife. The boardwalks were very well maintained. A nice breeze was blowing. It felt very safe and low-key. It might be too boring for younger kids. My 11 yo loved watching the crabs and looking for lizards.

By mountainserenity2017 |

Lovely rocking chairs with a nice view to rest after you've walked on the wooden bridge over Shem's Creek. I ate my lunch here. The rest room was clean and parking spacious. Enjoyed my visit!

By Kat1999 |

My family and I (two teenagers) spent a morning walking around and loved the area. We watched the dolphins swimming around for a long time. There were little crabs and other little fish off the docks that were fun to watch too. Its a nice way to spend an hour or two.

By Anthony P |

This little park features a wonderful boardwalk that goes all the way to the Southern end of Shem Creek. The wooden boardwalk provides some of the most beautiful views of Shem Creek and the surrounding marsh. Hang out there for a bit and you are likely to see dolphins and even jumping rays. Just a beautiful spot here in Charleston that is virtually unknown. Highly recommend!

By Deb Felmey |

This park has raised boardwalks, great views and abundant wildlife. Relaxing walk, with scenic views.

By KatzesMom |

After eating at one of the restaurants, took a late afternoon stroll along the wooden walkway at Shem Creek Park! Lots of birds around, fishing boats, lovely views, even a dolphin appeared. Great places for kids to walk and explore with seating and kid park items to keep them interested. Excellent way to get some sun, exercise and marvel at the picturesque sights!

By Saltwater Cowboys, Mount Pleasant, SC |

This park is very unique because you probably wouldn't come here to play ball with the dog or go for a jog, however, it is very beautiful and very Charleston. If you're planning on checking it out throw your fishing pole in the car (fishing license required) because it's a great place to unwind and relax. There are kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals available close by if you are interested.

By Klshealy |

This place is such a beautiful after dinner walk when you bring guests to visit. Great for families or couples. The view at the end of the dock opens up to the harbor and you can feel the magic of Shem creek. If you aren't into crouds go early in the morning and you'll have the place to yourself besides the people fishing off the dock. Bonus! I always see dolphins here.

By niicolestravels |

My husband and I came here during our trip to Charleston. We were able to walk our dog here and loved the views and breeze off the water. We saw dolphins swimming in the creek which was cool! There are a good amount of restaurants - all on the water with good looking menus. Most places were packed so we assume very good food. We ate at Vickerys and liked it a lot!

By Todd B |

Stopped here for lunch before flying home. The walk around the marsh and water was nice. Lots of choices to eat at.

By Jessica J |

Awesome for a stroll. Got to see shrimp boats. Walk to Waters Edge restaurant. Has bathrooms. Will do again.

By Ladycharia |

The walk is on piers and it's a nice park. They have nice bathrooms. It's fun watching boats come in. There were lots of couples walking dogs. It's just a wonderful place to walk and look at everything.

By Jack C |

Loved the marsh, the creek, the boats, the wildlife and the restaurants overlooking the creek. We liked it so much we did two . laps!

By mmknow |

We walk the park after eating at Vickery,s or other restaurants in the area. Beautiful walk and can also do some fishing. We have seen dolphins swimming around a few times. Always fun to watch the pelicans fly around, the boats go by, and the paddle boarder paddle by. Be sure to walk all the way out to the end, great place to see the sun set. There is also some very nice art pieces made from trash and debris.

By EMILE D |

It is a park located at the center of Mount Pleasent. It has an area of canals that connect with the sea. It also has a dock area for walking to the Water's Edge. The place was recommended by the hotel receptionist. In the area there are about 10 large restaurants, located at the water's edge, all with a beautiful view of nature and boats anchored in the area. Most of the restaurants were very busy. The whole environment very nice! Recommended for dinner. There are many options. There are also some stores that sell souvenirs and there are also ice cream shops.

By B F |

We visited both day and night and it was spectacular views. Loved watching the birds wait for the fishing boats to share the bounty. Was able to take some great photos. One of my favorite places in Charleston area.

By Allisonspring |

We stayed in this area for a one night stay in between functions and found this park. A beautiful pier that walks through marshlands up into the open creek area. We saw egrets, pelicans, seagulls, and dolphins. People were fishing and crabbing. In addition, there were many watercraft to watch, shrimp boats, paddle boarding, and kayakers. Restaurants close by as well! Highly enjoyable.

By RedSox1967 |

Great boardwalks over the marsh and adjacent to shem creek. You can cross over to many of the bars and restaurants if you like. This place has a white bird that is always there named Frank, think it is an egret. Place is great at sunrise or sunset for pictures to capture shrimp boats, pelicans, marsh views etc.

By Morris |

We happen to hit the park right as the sun was setting and it was beautiful and it was not even crowded. It is a nice little walking raised platform over the marsh and along the water, great for kids.

By crystal g |

I visited here with my 14 and 18 year old. We enjoyed the views and the walk. Next time we will definitely check out one of the restaurants. We got to see boats, dolphins, and it was just a peaceful place to view nature!

By GregandNancyWest |

Great place for a walk after dinner or anytime! Loved watching the boats coming in and out. Walking distance to several restaurants.

By Slick5276 |

We love to stroll around this place after having dinner at one of the local restaurants. Always a great place to watch boats and people. Sometimes you can see dolphins!

By NanSea03 |

Walk, watch the boats, look for dolphins, stop at a restaurant for a cool drink, and just enjoy the day!

By Jackie L |

Breathtaking views at this park! Definitely a must see hidden gem. The day we went it was chilling, however the views made up for the cold.

By Mvgray |

Nice walk along boardwalk. Saw a few dolphins, lots of crab and fish, tons of water birds. Nice view of boats and bridges.

By auntgiga |

We went for sunset one evening and the views were beautiful. We were hoping to see Dolphins but did not. Wear bug spray!

By CESDELAWARE |

Nice to walk the boards to soak in the sun and all the views offered at Shem Creek. We were there for a few hours. Had lunch and then sat at an outside bar to enjoy a cocktail and watch the boaters and even pelicans.

By EJ |

Pleasant, peaceful & breezy outing to the marshland with dolphin sighting, snowy egrets, pelicans & more. Lovely slice of nature.

By Ray&Tia |

Great evening at Shem Creek park. A nice walk, a few drinks. Beautiful scenery. Saw several dolphins in the harbor.. Would recommend spending a night down on Shem Creek..

By Tony C |

Do you like to be relaxed, walk in nature, watch dolphins playing, then you will love this self pace walk along the historic Shem Creek. It is a gem of our city to the people of the world.

By NW748 |

Came here hoping to catch sight of some dolphins- didn’t get to see any, but we were not disappointed we came. The views at sunset were so pretty! The boardwalk/docks are very well maintained. Beautiful views of the marsh and the bay. Fun getting to see the shrimp boats. Plenty of restaurants nearby to enjoy dinner afterward.

By ScreenNameAvailabl |

Based on reviews was excited to walk the boardwalk. We started off with dinner at Saltwater Cowboy, which was very good. We were told we needed to drive to the other side of the water to access the boardwalk. We drove over to other side only to find they charged to park by the day, $20. Looking at the boardwalk, we estimated yo be there less than an hour. We had no problem paying to park, but $20 was excessive for up to qn hour. If there was other parking, we were unable to find it. Should have left our car at Saltwater Cowboy and walked over, we realized too late that it was possible.

By Nick E |

Lovely area and a a great place to walk and view surrounding fauna and flora.
Would advise avoiding weekends if you can as very busy and potentially difficult to park if you are not eating at restaurants

By CRYS2480 |

We have made it a tradition of visiting the park and walking on the boardwalk after dinner during our stay in Mount Pleasant. There are always friendly people and beautiful views of the sunset!

By Amber W |

This park has amazing views of the ravenel bridge as the sun sets in the distance. There is much wildlife to see and boaters to watch. Must visit.

By Tot1094 |

Pretty place to stroll and take in a sunset. Nice boardwalk, easy to push a stroller along and take in the views.

By MTPgoodfood |

Shem creek has so much to offer. Walking the wooden trails and seeing all the wildlife(pelicans, sand crabs, seagulls, and sometimes dolphins ) is so relaxing. You can talk to the people fishing or crabbing on the docks and everyone is just so friendly. You can tell they love living here. Restaurants on the creek are great too.

By Cathy H |

Such a great walk anytime, but really nice at sunset! You can always catch a fisherman or two on the pier, grab food/drinks from several restaurants or just relax on a bench and wait for a dolphin to surface in the creek!

By wayward123 |

We went for a morning stroll on the boardwalk at Shem Creek Park. It was gorgeous. Lots of views, information boards, watch the shrimping boats, look for wildlife. It was perfect.

By Cortney E |

This is a must see when visiting the Charleston area. Having lived here, it was always good go to walking spot. There are always people fishing along here. We have seen dolphins from time to time. In addition, the pelicans are always looking for food from the fisherman and are fun to watch.

By jcmcgg13 |

Unfortunately we did not get here in time for the sunset. So our walk was rather dark. It was hard to find where the actual board walk begins. If you go make sure that you start on the side that has Vickery‘s bar and Grill. That’s where the boardwalk begins. The restaurants look like a tourist traps. I recommend finding somewhere else to eat.

By Malcolm McD |

This is a lovely area to explore and walk. Great photo opportunities. Just over the water from Charleston

By SparkleGoth |

A perfect place to catch the sunset. We spent the time walking along the boardwalk enjoying the beauty of Shem Creek and the many working shrimp boats docked there, but hope to return again to check out the creek-side restaurants and taverns.

By bkgstovall |

Wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Beautiful scenery and music from the local restaurants made for a very pleasant outing!

By weonlylive1nce |

Nice area with great boardwalk. Nice restaurants. We hoped to see dolphins, but they were not out at this time. Did see many pelicans.

By Anissa |

Absolutely beautiful. Such a pretty walk and love seeing all the fishing boats. Just a lovely walk all the way out. View is stunning.

By Roberto D |

Goes deep up the creek to the edge of America, well lmaintained walkway with benches for resting and plaques to expalin wildlife , fish and history of the creek.

By CarolinaPhotosmith |

This boardwalk is a such a great addition to Shem Creek. Birds squawk, dolphins breach, paddlers pass, fishermen head out to sea. Quintessential Mount Pleasant. Free parking is easiest in the morning. Clean restrooms and a water fountain.

By beetle1974 |

Nice boardwalk. We saw some crabs along the boardwalk. Watched boats and kayakers leaving and coming in. The best part was seeing dolphins.

By Brooke P |

Such a cool place! Watch kayakers and boaters leaving. Sometimes you can spot dolphins in the creek. See shrimp boats and watch the sunset on down the boardwalk. Free of charge

By Per S |

The coastal nature can be seen from raised paths. Well maintained. The wildlife surrounding the path. People fishing on the outer dock.
When coming back again there is a wide selection of restaurants.

By Steve C |

Really nice public park, great to walk the boardwalk, saw Dolphin in the creek, and also great marsh veiews, had picnic tables and resting areas also, would definitely recommend!!

By Elaine B |

We so enjoyed our walk along the boardwalks in the Shem Creek Park. So lovely. It helped us work up our appetite for a great dinner.

By Svensota |

What's ten feet wide and a quarter mile long?

The Shem Creek Park boardwalk.

It juts out into the marshland from Coleman Blvd. to (almost) the Charleston bay.

It has two things going for it. (1) The views are remarkable and (2) It's free.

If you're in the area, Stem Creek Park is well worth the time.

If you're under 30, you won't get it, so head to one of the many local bars, instead.

Cheers.

By floridian6 |

The board walk at Shem Creek is a nice place to take a walk along the water. There are pelicans resting in places along the way. Shrimp boats line the docks and a few restaurants are available to stop and eat or have a drink. There are sometimes people kayaking down the waterway and people sitting out on the patio on the other side of the water at bars and restaurants. In the evening the sunset can be seen. Overall, It is a nice pleasant place to take a walk.

By daearz77 |

Stopped here while in Mount Pleasant and was blown away. This is such a cool spot with getting to see the boats, the kayakers, and the wildlife. We were able to see various birds and some dolphins. The view here is absolutely outstanding.

By mja4life1214 |

they have many good views and a nice walk to walk off the food you can see the bridge and all of the shrimp boats

By a068240 |

We had dinner at one of the restaurants on the creek and then took a leisurely stroll along the waterside. Terrific views all round. Dolphins in the creek and a friendly Egret keeping us company. Also great spot for people watching.

By William E |

I ate at Vickery's and then walked on the boardwalk at Shem Creek Park. That is probably the best way to see the boardwalk - go after eating at Water's Edge or Vickery's so your stomach is full and you are not in a hurry. You can people watch and see what people are catching along the boardwalk. If you go to park at the parking lot for the park there oftentimes are not any open spots. Go in off times if you are just going for the park and anytime if you are going to park at the restaurant's parking lot and then walk to the boardwalk.

By John T |

Great views of Marsh, water, and Shem Creek. Very well kept boardwalk. Clean restrooms. Excellent spot for a walk after eating too much seafood at Shem Creek.

By jeffreyb406 |

After a Shem Creek dinner, the weather was perfect for a stroll along the creek and low country as sunset approached. A beautifully laid out sidewalk enabled you to become a part of the low country while taking in shrimp boats, dolphins and the beautiful scenery. A MUST stop while in Mt. Pleasant.

By Thomas I |

Although I passed this gem many times today we stopped and had lunch at one if the many restaurants. Later we walked out to the end of the walkway which is picturesque of the inlet lined with Shrimp boats and leisure craft. Love the sea grass and marsh, lots of wildlife.

By StangChik72 |

Walked the boardwalk early in the morning. Very beautiful and peaceful place and even saw some dolphins. Nice easy walk over the marshes. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

This boardwalk is in the middle of it all. It was a nice walk along the water. We did not fish but saw several other trying to fish. It is great for the kids to enjoy.

Living in Mount Pleasant, we have visited the park numerous times. Any time is a great time to visit but early am and sunset are really good times. Also, there are numerous good restaurant on Shem Creek!

By MadameLucyLou |

By Donivan K |

The Shem Creek Park has an amazing boardwalk where you can see wildlife such as snails, crabs, heron, pelicans, dolphins, and much more! Fishing can also be done on the boardwalk (but you can’t clean fish on it). It can be busy at times but it is well worth it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area. Also, Shem Creek Bar and Grill is close by which has lots of great food. (And more restaurants are close by and accessible from some parts of the boardwalk)

By Deena V |

We go at least 4 times a week just to walk and take in the nature. Always meeting nice people and enjoying the beauty. Don't forget to say hi to Henry (the resident egret) while you're there!

By Kim K |

It’s a nice little area. The park is basically a boardwalk that goes out to the water or by fthe fishing boats. We went looking for dolphins, didn’t see any but the walk was nice. Plenty of pelicans, other birds & fishermen to watch. The parking lot is small and has nice bathrooms.

By Toni A |

Stopped by Shem Creek Park and walked the wooden boardwalk on a sunny afternoon. This overlooks the water, marina and small park. Afterwards we stopped by Reds for a casual lunch and beer.

By Jessica Y |

Shem's Creek was a pleasant surprise - surrounded by natural beauty, easy-to-walk paths leading out to the water, and nearby restaurants and shrimp boats to see. It's a nice way to spend an hour or two, and we ever saw some people fishing. Definitely make the stop here if you're passing through!

By R_and_B204 |

We always enjoy our boardwalk hikes @ this park. Beautiful scenery & great picture taking moments.. Young & old fishing, birds, Intercoastal boating, & shrimp boats.

By Dune813 |

Don't miss out on this little 10 minute trip from Charelston as something to do after you have spent your day at the beach- go to Shem Park and walk the docks and enjoy some of the best seafood in town! We ate at R'B's...and had drinks and watched all the boats pass by for sunset. It was a relaxing evening for it too!

By Ray&Tia |

Very nice relaxing walk, beautiful sunset. Have a drink while you walk(or not). Not too crowded, not too loud. Well worth the time.

I live nearby, but walking on the boardwalk & pier here is always a treat. I suggest a visit in the evening to watch the shrimp boats come in. They're oftentimes followed by dolphins. It's a great place to walk, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the marsh.

By Susan M |

The parking is free and very nice restrooms. Wooden walkways wander through the grasses and creeks over to the waterfront where local fishing boats are moored.

By Dawnette |

Nice place to walk and enjoy the sights. Boats everywhere. Restaurants all around. View of Shem creek, the bridge and Charleston. Mount Pleasant is just beautiful.

By Juliet G |

By AK |

Wonderful place with some awesome sunset views! Take a nice stroll along the docks to work up an appetite just in time for a great dinner at one of the many restaurants here!

By Visionary Traveler |

Visiting Shem Creek is a must, even if you are a local. The views are beautiful and I consider this a nice healthy activity for anyone.
This park was acquired via eminent domain so apparently this board walk is for the overall betterment of the community. So we should all enjoy this park at least one time.

By stacyandryan2008 |

Very clean, beautiful area. You feel like your in the movie JAWS lol. We went to see if you could find or spot any dolphins. We heard this is the best spot to see them up close. We walked the Pier and watched for awhile and seen nothing. Others have claimed to spot them in 30 min of being there. I have heard that if you take out a kayak on the water, dolphins can be spotted coming right up to you in them. We defiantly want to do this next time we come back down from Michigan. Because there is no way to get into he water here without a kayak , we opted to go to Folly beach instead so we could get in the ocean. There we seen a few pod of dolphins in the distance. This area is very peaceful though and you can spot a lot of Fiddler Crabs ( the ones with the one large claw ) in the Marsh area and around the sidewalks so look for them. They are pretty neat. Lots of great looking restaurants around the area too. We stayed at Bolt farm luxury treehouses on wadamala island just 20-30 min from here.

By Jeremiah J |

Great place to go and relax from the Charleston hustle. Views are excellent ranging from watching boats and paddle boarders in and out to the sunset against the backdrop of reeds and impressive houses.

By mushroommarlene |

We Love stopping here; during shrimp season (after June) the boats come out of here. A sunset from one of the many fine bars here is a treat. Some offer an elevated view of the area. Always popular.

By Chris W |

Great view and restaurants. Reds great bar and seafood! Vickerys good food and view. Tavern and Table good food and atmosphere. Cabana bar great happy hour! Saltwater Cowboys fun atmosphere and great view of creek! I love dining at Shem Creek. Always great fun!!

By Wil |

The main feature of the park is a series of boardwalks and a pier jutting out into the harbor alongside Shem Creek, harbor to pleasure boats and working shrimp trawlers. It's a nice walk, with a lot to look at--herons and egrets in the marsh, pelicans swarming the shrimp boats, dolphins out in the creek. Fishing is permitted.

By Donna K |

One of our favorite places to stroll before or after dinner on the creek. There is limited parking in front of the park and more in adjacent area. The sunsets there are amazing.

By Melinda G |

Enjoyed hanging out here and eating she crab soup at Shem Creek bar & Grill! This must be the locals best kept secret!

By BillOPhilaelphiaPA |

Visited this spot on our last day. LOVELY wooden walk way. Nice little distance to the end. Peaceful and scenic.

By tomburriss |

Beautiful place to take a walk along the creek and marsh. The boardwalk makes it very easy and there is usually plenty of parking. It's also free!

By Masharubu B |

A most enjoyable, albeit short, this is a lovely situation walking on boardwalks over an estuary area. We viewed some lovely birds in the marshy area and watched the fishing boats coming back in. Seagulls and pelican aplenty. We chatted with some fishermen and enjoyed the views. We didn't have a lot of time and this stopover was perfect.

By vls510 |

Clean, gorgeous, walkable, easy FREE parking, convenient restrooms...access to food and drink and music. What a fun place.

By Ted K |

We were referred here to have dinner as there are many interesting and good eating places. Walking around the walkway gives one a feeling of the marine environment there. One warning, as it is a very popular place in the evening, be sure to park in the assigned spots and there are "observers".

By Don K |

The city of Mt Pleasant spent some money and made this an incredible place. Long walkways along the creek and within tidal marsh. Great view into the harbor with tons of boat traffic. I have watched container ship after container ship come and go and there is no shortage of wildlife. Very family friendly place.

By David K |

Not a must do, but a nice boardwalk above a salt marsh. A small marina on the left half way out. At the end of the board there is a descent view of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.

By Meander63827 |

Nice walk to observe shore birds and boats of all kinds. Free parking and restrooms available. Family friendly.

By lindaleeb2017 |

Pleasant place to walk if you enjoy sunshine and nature. It is free and has a little parking lot, restrooms, and a few rocking chairs. The boardwalks take you near some restaurants too.

We went to a restaurant on Shem Creek and discovered this lovely boardwalk. We really enjoyed walking along the creek. The views are amazing.

By Chopstick105 |

Great place to walk off a fine meal at one of several restaurants just off Coleman on Shem Creek. The park is in the middle of a bustling urban area but it feels like you are in the country with birds and other wildlife. We liked this whole area. In fact we preferred Mount Pleasant to 'Historic Charleston'.

By Marian M |

Kayak 2 hour tour was fun and informative! Highlight was seeing 2 dolphins! Our tour guide was Matthew and he answered all our questions about the area and wildlife and was very informative.

By Sandra N |

Really nice clean boardwalk taking you over Shem creek and to the water. Working shrimp boats, birds and creek side eating places,

Right on the water. This is such a great place to walk on the boardwalks and watch the boats and sea life in the area. There are shrimp boats and a marina and lots of wildlife. Great please to stroll around on the boardwalks. Loved it!

By Christopher Williams |

We have visited this park a couple of times, and enjoy the walk. It has easy parking, walk is short, and if you bring a rod you can fish from the Gazebo on the end.

By dancinggoats |

Was here to meet our bay fishing guide. Got there a bit early and got to stroll for awhile. The long pier was well kept, clean with excellent access for fishing.

By David G |

Our evening walk on the wooden boardwalk after dinner was a pleasant surprise. The park entry (free) building has restrooms. The walk over the marsh is peaceful and relaxing. It's nearly a mile long, branching off to return to the marina, where we saw several dolphin lazily checking out kayakers and SUPers. The walkway goes directly to several waterfront restaurants. A recommended destination or side trip when in Mt. Pleasant.

By Gwen B |

Love to take a walk after a meal to look at the view and wild life? The board walk is a great addition to this area and has been expanded.

By Claudine H |

Something not to miss in Mount Pleasant, a stroll on Shem Creek. Dolphins, pelicans and beautiful sights

By klutzWestBend |

We went there about 9 a.m. and walked all the boardwalks twice. So pretty and interesting. Viewing the shrimp boats was great. Nice rest rooms near the parking area--appreciated that.

'was a bit confused as to how to get there. If you put "Shrimp Boat Lane" into your GPS, you get right there!

I recommend about 2 hours there.

By cara b |

The view was beautiful and peaceful! The dock was well maintained and clean . Everyone was friendly !

By Charles P |

It is a nice walk on a boardwalk into nice scenery. It is not worth going out of your way for considering all the other beauty around Charleston. But if your in Mt Pleasant, give it a shot.

By Jody S |

This is a great time to come to the area. Few people, no bugs and great weather await you. It's a sweet, interesting walk.

By K S |

We stopped to see the marsh and Boardwalk. This is a beautiful setting. The sounds of birds all around. We were lucky to spot dolphins on the waterway.

By David G |

We were on our way to Sullivan's island and stopped by to stretch our legs. Really nice area to walk around to view the area, shrimp and fishing boats. Plenty of pelicans swooping down looking for their next meal. Snowy egrets, cormorants and gulls too. You can bring your rod and reel too.

By TVHOST |

Lovely setting
nice boardwalk that rambles along water- great restaurants too.
Sit awhile and relax.

By keithgK6071RA |

A nice place to take in the views. We saw dolphins at low tide. Lots of places to eat or just have a drink.

By Joey E |

We stopped here after dinner for a nice walk. High tide, so you have to be prepared to walk through a puddle or 2 on the path. But it was a pleasant time. Great views at sunset.

By Paul P |

we did this walk and dnjoyed seeing the boats and the seabirds. The kids raced up and down the boardwalk and a good time was had by all.

By broadchannel8 |

Went here and loved how beautiful it is .Went to eat at Vickerys and loved it .Beautiful views of the harbor with a great sunset...

By Kristen T |

I grew up in Mt. Pleasant and until this weekend had no idea this park was here! My husband and I were in town visiting (we no longer live in the area) and stayed at the Shem Creek Inn which is right next door to this little "park". We had some time to kill before heading over to 34 West for a play and decided to get a few more steps in for the day and walk the boardwalk. It's a nice little walk with some lovely views of the marsh and bridge.

By Cathy M |

This park was a pleasant find. The sites and surroundings are beautiful especially at sunset. Easily accessible for those in wheelchairs and walkers.

Long pier through the marsh parallel to Shem Creek. Beautiful place to take a walk and enjoy the quiet surroundings. Especially nice at sunset. Free parking and bathrooms.

Great way to relax and enjoy the area. The marsh is beautiful as is the walkway. Easy walk for seniors and children.

Wood boardwalk over marsh all parallel Shem Creek. There are three shaded areas to get away from the blazing sun. Enjoyed our walk through nature.

There is so much more than restaurants and bars. The fishing and shrimp boats are docked there. You can buy fish and shrimp right off the boats.

I’ve watched dolphin play along the Shem and seems a good place for kayaking too. Wonder around you might be surprised at what you might see.

I loved this walk out over the marshes. The peace of the views and smell of the sea were soothing. It was fun to watch those fishing along the walk. Great sunset views.

Ate lunch at Shems Creek Bar & Grill and Mill Street Tavern. Both were very good. Staff took good care of us.

My husband and I drove out here to kayak and then have lunch. Holy Crap! This place was a mess! I felt like I was in the wrong place based on the reviews! We couldn’t park at the park because there were so few spots. The restaurant to the Left seemed to have triple the spaces and at 10 am, of
course they were all empty! So, we couldn’t even get to the park. Next, we tried to kayak at Shem Creek because this also had great reviews. First off, I don’t understand how an area surrounded by water can have so few kayak/boat launches. When we finally found the kayak launch (massive road construction), there wasn’t a single available space, not even well out into the street. So we drove out to Mt. Pleasant and we’re only able to find parking at the visitors center. Huge disappointment!

The boardwalk is a great way to spend time just watching nature, people and boats. It is an easy walk and very relaxing.

Visited the park on a Wednesday evening and was blown away by how well kept and beautiful the area was. I guess I had low expectations going in, but was pleasantly surprised. Parking is at a premium and there are plenty of signs indicating parking for restaurants only. We had planned to eat dinner and then catch sunset from the end of the walkway so we weren’t deterred. The pier/walkway is nicely done and a good length. The entire atmosphere of the area is very pleasant with shrimp boats, crabs in the marsh, live music from the restaurants, sea gulls flying overhead, etc. between dinner and sunset we spent about 4 hours in the area and loved every minute of it.

Boardwalks through marsh. Beautiful spot. Saw dolphins, pelicans, birds, incredible sunset reflected in the water. Very little parking.

What a beautiful place. You can walk down this boardwalk to the end by the ocean where people sightsee or fish. You will see a variety of sea life. Fish, dolphins, seagulls, and pelican. Love those birds. At the front of Shem Creek are some restaurants for you to enjoy. It a great place to visit over and over.

The town has done a great job connecting both sides of the creek to walk from restaurant to restaurant. The parking is better on the north side of creek. We spent happy hour walking around, watching boats and the sun low in the sky.

Walk through the grasses and mussels to the marina and fish cleaning area to the restaurants. Get the feel for the whole area and then enjoy a great dinner at your choice of several restaurants.

Shem Creek is so beautiful. This long boardwalk takes you to the edge where you can see it all. Definitely recommend this spot at sunset. Breathtaking!

Whoever had the idea to make this "boardwalk" park should be given a medal, if not two. Wonderful views of shrimp boats, dolphins, waterside restaurants, and of course the sunsets. You are walking over protected marshland much of the time - without getting muddy or wet. There are also some educational panels along the way, so you are able to refresh your knowledge and appreciation of this priceless environment. The developer of this park really deserves the thanks of present generations and those to come - it all could have turned out so differently. But, in the meantime, enjoy it!

We have been around these board walks a few times. Great place to bring visitors for a walk in the low country. At low tide there are some nice little trails to wander around on, areas with 100’s of fiddler crabs to watch play peek-a-boo and usually some good spots to fish along Shem Creek. Fun place to people watch and a string of good restaurants to slip in and out of. It is a good place to spend a little time.

Every time we travel to Charleston, we always hang out at Shem Creek and then head over to Red's for a margarita and some bar food. Love sitting in the sun and watching the dolphins....

We drove by this area almost every day while staying at Isle of Palms and thought it looked interesting. So glad we stopped! We ate our evening meal at Vickery's Bar and Grill and as the sun was setting we enjoyed a walk on the boardwalk along the water. The boats and fish 'shanties' along the creek is really interesting. Lots of wildlife to enjoy and some to slap off (maybe some Off would be a good idea). Our oldest only used his phone on this walk to take pictures the landscapes and boats. It was a nice and relaxing walk after dinner. Perfect timing as the sun was beginning to set as well.

Were there early in the early evening in early Sept [just before Hurricane Florence: 2018]: shrimp boats tie up along the boardwalk and this just adds to the peacefulness of the 'stroll' along the boardwalk. You really are walking over a salt marsh, but, no bad smells. Boats of all types are slowly travelling along the river [headway speed]. There is a bridge before the entry to the harbor; so n really big boats. This is just a boardwalk, no concessions or drinking establishments.

With the sun setting, and a pleasant evening, it was: just a great place to relax for 2 folks born in the 1940"s. And there were several other couples. much younger than us, doing the same thing!

So this is a great little side "creek" area. Mostly populated with restaurants and bar-type tap rooms. There is a kayak livery there but other than that, you only need to spend a few hours. I can see it getting crazy with drinkers and partiers so if you're not into that scene I'd keep it as an afternoon getaway.

We had a lovely time strolling on the boardwalk out to the covered area at the end! We chatted with some very friendly fishermen and enjoyed the lovely view of the marsh area around it!

This is such a great little park to get a light morning workout in while watching the sun rise over the marina. The shrimp boats head out in the morning and I loved watching them head out. Make sure to go to the end of the boardwalk and catch the amazing views. Not crowded at all early in the morning, and a nice quiet place to start your day.

It was beautiful. Our son ride is bike on the boardwalk, we saw fish, crab and pelicans. It was really nice. Seeing the shrimping boats up close was pretty cool too.

Great Restaurant, great new piers, fishing boats, dolphins, manatee's, kayaking, water boarding, great fish market !

Good playground for kids. Good fishing pier. Nice place for a walk.

If you want a longer walk, walk the bridge to Charleston as well!

Dog friendly boardwalk, view marshes, shrimp boats and dolphins. Great places. To eat along the creek next door too.

Beautiful setting! Several rail information plaques. Very well maintained decking. There’s art and a couple of “crabs” the kids can climb on WITH supervision.

Nice place to walk off a big breakfast and take in the scenery of the saltwater flats and fishing boats.

Great place to take in all the beauty South Carolina has to offer. We stopped there on our way to the beach to look for dolphins - did not see any, but everybody told us that they are often spotted there. Free parking and a nice 1-2 hours stroll/ walk/ exploration.

We stopped by the park after spending the day at Patriots Point to meet friends and were very impressed with how quaint the area is! This is a great walking train and boardwalk, provides access to fishing, and nearby restaurants, and allows you to view the boats coming in with fresh catch and dolphins (and other wildlife) along the inlet.

It's a short drive from Patriot's Point. Very nice area to walk around. Not strenuous for those who can't walk hills.

Spent one night here for a short trip to Charleston area. Got an excellent price on hotel. Hotel was a good price for the quality of the rooms. The room was clean, large shower, comfortable bed with lots of pillows, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The AC was a little loud but bearable. Nice porch overlooking marsh. Good parking. Shem Creek Park is within a few steps and is great for walking to marsh and waterway. You also can fish from the piers. Also convenient to local restaurants.

The buffet breakfast was included and had a good variety. Upon check in the host was extremely courteous. The lobby area has nice sitting area and a great assortment of brochures for those visiting the area. Will return

This is a small boardwalk surrounded by marshland. Walking out and back might get you a mile, but walking around both sides (one with many restaurants) can get you two. There are many places to stop with information on the area, fish and other animals. It's free, so a nice place to stop and enjoy the outdoors.

Beautiful Day Beautiful Walk! We had a chance to try out the new walkway over the bridge which is so much safer than the curb. We also walked the entire length with people enjoying the day by fishing and just observing.

We always make a point of visiting Shem Creek Park. Great place to walk, bird and boat watch. The walkway is well maintained, an easy stroll. Nice Restrooms, and small parking area. The boat traffic in Shem Creek is amazing, neat to see all the various types. There are yachts to shrimp boats tied up. We always see dolphins and some beautiful birds. The houses across the creek from the park are beautiful. There are multiple good restaurants within a short walk. Go right before sunset and see the awesome view of the sun going down over the Ravenel Bridge. Lots of people are fishing if that interests you. Enjoy!

When your friends move to SC and have explored their new surroundings they show it all to you when you visit.

We wanted a relaxed activity and some nature. We had a great afternoon worth it.

Found this place by accident. Need to walk this park after a nice dinner on the water. Family and pet friendly.

Free and fun place to watch the sea life and birds of Shem creek. Parking can be tricky as this is a popular place, but otherwise a great spot.

By CobyGlass |

Beautiful and well-maintained. I love to take my dog for a long walk and then we each go next door to Shem Creek for a beverage. Highly recommended!

Lovely place to stroll through the marsh! Boardwalk offers safe pathway and overlook to the water. Did not fish, but saw others doing so.

Mount Pleasant has some beautiful Public Parks. This one, directly on Shem Creek is no exception. It’s beautiful from the moment you start your walk and when it ends. Picturesque scenes for camera buffs around every bend. It’s a great walk, easy for anyone, including wheelchairs and walkers.
