Great Welcome Center

By RandyRoss |

This is one of the nicest welcome centers anywhere. We really just stopped in to use the restrooms but ended up spending well over half an hour looking around. The woolly mammoth was especially great. And the lady who was at the information desk was extremely friendly and helpful. Oh yes, free coffee.

Stop here!

By Mike Weston |

What a great place to visit when crossing into Wyoming for the first time. Nice, new, and clean facility. Full of information. Great place to visit and stretch your legs.

Fantastic!

By Linda S |

Over the years I have seen a lot of Welcome Centers but this by far is the best I've seen to date. The staff were very welcoming and friendly but the interior is something you won't want to miss. This is a must see visitors center for everyone who travels this way.

Small Museum Really

By dambanker |

As a Welcome Center this is by far the best anywhere and deserves an excellent rating for sure. As a specific destination it is still very good. It really is a small museum covering Wyoming's history, culture and things to do. The building itself is very interesting with all the eco-friendly designs incorporated into it. Worth a stop in its own right.

Great new entrance to our state!

By Ana A |

This center has very interesting history on WY as well as great photo opportunities for the kids. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is welcoming - take a break and stop in to see it and pick up some great information on attractions for your trip.

One of the best Welcome Centers

By cmcolantonio |

Most of the time these places are just for stretching a bit and collecting some brochures. Wyoming's welcome center includes some museum-like exhibits, educational videos, and other fun ways to break up that road trip.

Nice visitor center

By 48Traveling |

Locate on a plane just outside Cheyenne. Good starting point for a visit to the state. Nice modern building with really good facilities for travelers. Lots of travel info and staff to answer question. The highlight, though, is the display ranging from geology to old west to recreational opportunities. There's a little bit of everything for kids and adults.

The Wyoming stickers are the Icing on the cake

By TraviataGeorgia |

Can't say enough good about Wyoming. Start with a stop at any Wyoming State Welcome Center. Collect stickers, a map of where to pick them up, maps of the state and information of local attractions. The staff is friendly and helpful, and may let you know of things going on in the area that you might not expect. We joined in the celebration of the 125 birthday of Wyoming becoming a State on the capital grounds, including a great Wyoming band and a huge display of fireworks. Wyoming is amazing, and the welcome centers are only the beginning.

Welcome Center AND Museum - wonderful

By Laneybelle |

I stopped for a map of Wyoming, but I didn't realize that besides free tourist information, this place is really a museum, too. Huge dinosaur on display, plus other museum displays showcasing the history of the state. Many restrooms, too, plus free coffee. Outside, there is even a walking trail. The building's architecture is lovely. Even if you don't need a restroom or a map, do stop here - it's a great experience.

What a great introduction to a fascinating state

By Lee H |

You could spend half a day here! The exhibits are excellent, from the prehistoric mammoth skeleton to the child-friendly "Wild West" show, plus really friendly, helpful staff.
What really caught my eye, amongst the information panels was the history of female emancipation in the state. Three cheers for Wyoming to give women the vote back in 1896 and having a load of "first woman to be.." in American history.
Let's salute that early pioneering spirit. Thanks, Wyoming.

Brilliant Visitor Centre

By Phil H |

This is probably the best Visitor Centre we have been to in all our travels throughout the U. S.

For a start, the opening hours are longer than most; typically, such centres are open from 9:00am-5:00pm, but this one is open from 7:00am-6:00pm.

Then there are all sorts of displays that highlight the various attractions and activities available in Wyoming, but the highlight of our - and I'm sure most people's - visit was the skeleton of a woolly mammoth, which was discovered in the state.

And, of course, there were the usual wide range of leaflets and maps covering every region of the state.

The member of staff on duty was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her.

A very special Visitor Centre and one well worth visiting.

Local Visit after it opened.

By Mac J |

Very informative,, clean, easy to tour and good highway access. Staff friendly and helpful for direction in area.

A great welcome to the capital of Wyoming!

By Heather D |

The Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center found on I 25. This is a great place to stop and stretch your legs with the interactive walking path as part of the grounds. There are picnic tables to enjoy a meal. Clean bathroom for a quick respite. There is also an interactive visitors' center complete with a dinosaur. Did you know where dinosaurs were found in Wyoming? Of course Wyoming wouldn't be Wyoming without our Indians lore and outlaws. Did you know our Territorial Prison in Laramie is open to visitors too?!

Nice place

By cintuchi |

Great place together with a rest area for full access to the amenities have a pet area exercise as well.

Incredible visitors center

By Elsie D |

If you are passing by, stop. If you are in Cheyenne, take a detour to visit. If you are just driving through, an hour in here and you will have a good overview of what makes Wyoming Wyoming. The architecture is awesome and there are a number of participatory exhibits for kids and family photo ops. Not to be missed if you can help it.

Quite new very helpful

By pharmate |

Bu stopping there we were able to get brochures and magazines to help us find antique shops. They had excellent maps of Laramie and Cheyenne, and they were able to correctly answer questions we asked about distances between areas

Nice rest stop with a museum and welcome center

By ehayes116 |

This is a nice rest stop plus it has a Wyoming welcome center inside. Get your brochures and coupons here. There is also a really nice little museum. It's easy to reach from I25 and I80.

Nice Welcome Center

By LE368 |

Stopped here on the recommendation of the visitor's center in Colorado. Very nice and clean. Has good information and great displays.

This should be your first stop in Wyoming when coming from the south

By Jim M |

The State of Wyoming has done a beautiful job with this welcome center. Must be one of the best in the country. Great for kids AND adults. The exhibits and information are terrific but you should also take a minute or two to learn the unique way the building was constructed. Amazing.

Ok, it's pretty great

By EldonDoucette7 |

Yes, it's a welcome center. Yes, it's as good as advertised. I was HIGHLY skeptical when it showed up as high as #2 on Things to Do in Cheyenne. It really is a damn great welcome center. It is easily the cleanest, nicest welcome center I've ever seen. But what's makes it really nice are the little interactive exhibits they have for kids.

Should it be your only stop in Cheyenne? No, of course. However, if you need to stop, this is a great place to eat your picnic lunch, stretch your (and Rover's) legs, and learn something.

Best Ever! Be sure te stop!

By TrvlnRoundUS |

This is an unbelievable welcome center - it has the usual pamphlets, magazines and information -but it is a small walk through museum as well! Clean, spacious, relaxing and truly welcoming! Honestly, it was better than visiting Cheyenne! :)

Nice stop

By Robbie R |

It's actually a really interesting little stop along the freeway, clean bathrooms, friendly staff and very informative! Great information on native Americans and really fun things for the kids. I'd recommend stopping right after you get a picture of yourself with the Wyoming State welcome sign along I-25. (Or before the Colorado sign depending on your direction)

Not very informative

By Amanda W |

Good stop to get some pictures but the lady at the desk couldn't provide any suggestions for things to do in the surrounding area.

Must see

By 1wyobirder |

A wonderful intro to Wyoming…..you must stop and see it! Allow at least 45-60 minutes to fully appreciate it…….

Nice for a quick stop

By KrispyOhio |

Mini-Museum would be a better description. Good 30 minute stop to give my daughter a free overview of the area and a taste of the history.

By far the best state welcome center I've ever seen

By KansanRover |

Well done, Wyoming! This welcome center is as much a museum as a place to get maps and brochures. Displays on fossils, sports, history, tourism, and commerce are very nicely presented. The facility is fairly new and glistens. There are hands-on opportunities for small children, who would enjoy taking a break here. If you're looking for a helpful orientation to the state, or even just an opportunity to break up a long drive, 45-60 minutes spent here would be well worth your while.

Road Trip Stop well worth the time.

By mountain14er |

En route to Guernsey State Park to stay in a yurt with grandchildren, we scheduled a stop at the Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center because of the great reviews. We have to agree. This is not your usual welcome center. There is a wealth of information and many interactive exhibits that kept our 12 year old grands busy for nearly an hour and the grandparents intrigued as well. In fact, we are thinking of returning to WY just to spend more time at this great little museum! From dinosaurs who roamed the area to the sites of Jackson Hole, there is information for everyone.

must stop here

By marieatta_pman |

i was thinking it was just a visitor center and i needed to use the facilities and pick up a map- wow was i wrong. it is an attraction in itself.
part museum-part visitor center, it has wonderful displays on wyoming - no matter what your interest is - history, nature, wildlife, winter sports, etc... anyone in your party will find something interesting here.

Wyoming rest stop

By Terry T |

One of the nicest rest stop you'll see. Clean, comfortable and very informative. Almost a mini museum.

Big Disappointment

By JNE |

On Sunday, Dec. 5, I took 15 other people for a day trip from Denver to do two things: see this much praised visitor center/museum and ride the train at Terry Bison Ranch. Good thing the train was running as nothing but the bathrooms open at the visitor center. Our group was VERY disappointed. Website says open 7:30 to 4:30 every day, but when you get there, there's a small sign that says displays not open Weds., Sat. and Sun. Obviously, this should be noted on the website as if people want to make a trip just to see the place, when else would they be likely to do it but Sat. or Sun.?

A: It's a Welcome Center, B: It's a Museum, or C: All of the Above

By urbanguy |

It's more than just a place to stretch your legs and go to the bathroom. You can easily spend a couple of hours here learning about Wyoming from the excellent exhibits. And, to cap it all off, they have a life-size cast (13+ feet tall and very long) of Dee, World's Largest Columbian Mammoth, dug up in Wyoming in 2006.

A great rest stop; an excellent opportunity to learn about Wyoming.

A must see welcome center

By C&F |

This is a must see Welcome Center. I didn't want to see it thinking it was the usual welcome center so I waited my husband in the car but after 2 minutes he told me I definitely had to see it too. In fact I was very surprised. It's like a museum and it's very informative, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We found lot of brochures and maps to take home for our next trip to Wyoming.

A good place to stop

By gillkaribu |

We only had time for a brief stop but the staff were really helpful and it provided a welcome restroom break and water top up.

Great surprise

By NSP9454 |

The biggest surprise of our trip was this visitor center. We stopped to use the restrooms and to pick up some information about the state. Instead, we got to go through a number of exhibits that helped us gain a better appreciation for Wyoming plus we got to see a woolly mammoth!

Awesome Welcome Center & mini-museum!

By LoveTrips |

We stopped here to get more information on the area, and had no idea we were stopping at such a great place! There was plenty of information for us, as well as fun little attractions for our kids to enjoy as we learned about the area and the history. We ended up staying 20-30 minutes, haha! It also had nice clean restrooms. :) Really great!

Unmatched Welcome Center

By 820SteveB820 |

If you are able to stop during daytime hours, this is set up like a museum and brochures are placed by the various exhibits. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained.

Best welcome center of all 50 and I have been to them all

By TestPoint |

Beautiful location and building, very helpful and knowledgeable host on duty. Museum level displays from prehistoric to snowmobiling. Very impressive!

Simply the Best

By Albert B |

Wonderful info for trip to Wyoming and even Mt. Rushmore. Very informative staff (Tom) working. Do not drive by any means. Great for the entire family.

Not a Museum but Great Welcome Center

By jbushman2017 |

This place gets 5 stars because it is the best Welcome Center you will visit. Great bathrooms, nice (museum like) exhibits inside that show you want you can find in the state. A walking trail around the center (to stretch your legs). But to really know about Wyoming you need to visit one of the three museums in Cheyenne which all have more extensive exhibits than you will find here.

Interesting Place to Visit

By danamorganbarnes |

Even locals can find great information about our state here. The people are friendly and very helpful. The displays are incredible..

One of the best welcome centers for tourists

By JD C |

This modern Welcome centers is one of the best we've come across in our travels across the U.S. The front part of the building has a wealth of free and useful information (brochures, maps, coupon booklets) concerning every part of the State. We picked up many helpful brochures for our travel across the state. In the back of the building are interactive, hands-on exhibits that's great for kids of all ages. There are postcards of Devils Tower, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons and even a mailbox where you can insert your postcard. Restroom facilities are very clean.

Worth a stop

By rca2011 |

The newly constructed welcome center is worth a 20-30 minute visit to stretch your legs. The exhibits are interesting and include both western history and geography. The staff wasn't overly helpful but I'm sure that depends on the individual person.

Worth the Stop

By Tom O |

It is so easy to drive on past, but this is definitely worth the stop. It is not just for tourists, local people need to take a trip out to see this.

Visitor Center

By Ed50_13 |

Stopped at the visitor center not long after it had opened. It was great. The displays are amazing and informative. The center also offers information on places and things to see and do in all of Wyoming. It was excellent. There are displays for young and old all of which were very well done.

Good place to start

By BobRetired2015 |

Went in for a rest stop and stayed well over an hour. Great place to get information and experience a little Wyoming before you start your visit. The young woman at the desk was extremely helpful. The exhibits were interesting for all ages. Stop there as they say "THAT'S WY"

By 64familyfun |

We ended our Wyoming trip here and it made us want to stay. The center is really well done with great displays and interactive and educational exhibits. The picnic area and walking trail are nice. It is a great way to start or end your trip in Wyoming.

Now this is a WELCOMING!

By Michelle M |

We thought this would be just another quick stop at the Welcome center of the new state along the highway. Boy were we wrong! This actually should be something planned in everyone's travels when driving along I-25. Exceptionally clean, large parking lot, wide walkways, and WOW what a huge selection of pamphlets and maps. A real nice break, informative, and amazing displays. Great location for selfies.

Get in the mood for Wild West scenes

By M Richard M |

Most welcome centers serve maps and tourist trap spots. This actually has some history, and maps. Lots of displays and clean rest rooms.

Superb stop

By Susie R |

Not just an ordinary state welcome center. It did have literature but the displays illustrating the settling of the area, the exhibits of prehistoric animals and the cultural features of the state were very well done and informative

Who knew? More of a museum than a welcome center.

By 150hotelnightsayear |

My first impression when crossing the state line from Colorado was "that's a cool building."

I decided to stop on my way back and I am very glad I did. This is no ordinary Welcome Center. It is a full-fledged history filled museum.

Very well done, and clean facilities, too!

A Welcome Center that Welcomes!

By Renee F |

This is an excellent center, clean and informative. A lot of effort went into this place to make visitors feel welcome.

Wish GA had Welcome Centers like this

By Nathan B |

This is a whole new concept for a welcome center, WOW! It is combination lobby with bathroom, ecosustainable building construction, WY history/ museum and travel help desk. It was a great stop and really inspired me to see some of the places featured in museum area. Very impressive!

Nice for a break while traveling

By Robert P |

It is interesting and a pleasant stop to take a break while traveling especially with kids. Rest rooms are very nice and a nice place to walk around outside weather permitting.

Information trip

By Lori M |

Jordan and Krissy were very helpful and friendly. This is a must stop to get information on the whole state.

A Must Stop!! Best Welcoming Center I've Been to

By 8ric |

This place is almost a darn attraction! They spent a lot of money and time making this a spectacular welcoming center and I'd almost place it in the category of an attraction, it's that good! Honestly - ands down best visitor center I've ever been to! It's huge and more like an attraction and it's all free.

They actually have exhibits here and it is a phenomenal location for information and a must see. Trust me this place is phenomenal and it's worth the visit.

You should stop and visit

By Sadbe |

This is not just a welcome centre its a mini museum as well. Staff on hand to give excellent advise on where to go and supply you with enough books and maps that you will never be lost.

A Welcome Center worth visiting

By ridgerunnerdoc |

Helpful staff provided information and answered our questions. Plenty of printed materials. The restrooms were clean.

great for a field trip

By pjavma |

I took my students here. The personnel had a treasure hunt made up for the kids. It was a great and fun way to learn more about the history of WY. It is like a mini museum.

I Wish All States Had A Welcome Center This Great

By Joan W |

I was going to be in Cheyenne for two night and three days sightseeing. I had an idea what I wanted to do, and the patient and well informed young lady at the VC answered all my questions, helped me organize my days, and then printed out directions how to best get from one place to another. I was amazed at all the exhibits there were to see-many interactive and fun for kids. It really was a great overview of WY and its history and attractions. They had info on the entire state of WY along with info from nearby states that you could help yourself to. This was my first stop in Cheyenne and my time was well spent here as I know I got more out of my stay in Cheyenne and then my trip to western WY because of this Welcome Center. While I would highly recommend a visit to the WY State Museum (it is free) over by the state capital, if you have time, but if you are just passing through Cheyenne be sure to stop here to learn more about the state.

A little bit of Wyoming history ...

By Karen C |

Welcome Centers have such a range in what they offer. This one was such a surprise. The displays have good details and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. This was such a nice stop. We needed a break, but were so impressed with this center. Such a good orientation to what Wyoming offers.

Skip it-Free admission and coffee and not worth stopping

By Trent B |

One of those tax subsidized boondoggles that probably seemed like a good idea to someone at the time.

One of a kind

By AJ S |

Driving cross country with my pup. We needed a break and stopped. Center is clean, modern, and bright. Lots of history there. Facility is 1st rate. Grounds are nice. There is a pet exercise area which is a small corral. Animals can run and play, safely.
FELT LIKE A MUSEUM. So much history to learn about. Nicely decorated. Lots of parking.

It's So Much More Than A Rest Area!

By Philly Light Traveler |

Technically this is a rest area on the interstate, so you can stop to use the rest rooms, pick up a beverage in a machine, and get travel tips not only from brochures on the wall but also from a staffed information desk. BUT, it's also a museum -- you'll learn plenty about the history of Wyoming and have fun while doing so. We were there for about an hour -- well worth the stop!

Ok

By Betty L |

The new visitor center seems a little small and the location is not the finest. The modern building is ok or a
Intel better. Wyoming has so much beauty to offer and this facility,I feel does not exactly meet ones expectations. Have t want to go to it in order to know it is there if coming from Colorado or leaving Wyoming.

Wow...what a Visitor's Center!

By dupleez |

I wish the rest of Cheyenne was as well maintained and presented as this Visitor's Center. Maybe then this capitol city of an American state would actually fix the potholes, rather than just simply slathering oil and gravel over them. News flash: Fixing things on the cheap only costs more down the road (or, down the street, in this case)!

Great stop for information!

By Chocaholic2018 |

Loads of information and maps as well as exhibits, short film clips/videos, etc. to introduce visitors to the many things to see and experience in Wyoming.

Make it a destination!

By wayne m |

Best Welcome Center I have ever been in. All kinds of materials for tourist trips. Free coffee. Lots of displays. You can even get your picture taken in jail! And which Welcome Center have you been in that has a dinosaur mounted.?

Make it a destination!

Why it's rated so high

By RICHARD F |

The reviews caught my attention. Like this place sounds it's a welcome center,a glorified rest area. The facility is very nice, clean, and well kept. We ate a snack in the picnic area. The exhibit area was very cool. My kids loved the trap door in the jail cell. Great stop on our way to the Wyoming state museum.

Fantastic family friendly stop

By DailyChanged |

History, maps, dinosaurs, tee-pee, pictures in jail with Billy the Kid, souvenirs. Fantastic stop. Family friendly.

Intro to Wyoming

By Tanja R |

Great welcome center. Very clean. Has lots of info displayed. Wonderful, helpful staff. Mini museum included.

Best welcome center to visit

By Degrees |

This is the nicest welcome center I have ever visited. Lots of information on Wyoming, knowledgeable staff and fabulous displays. It has a modern building and nice overall facilities. If you are coming to Wyoming for a visit, then it should be a must place to stop. I have not been to Wyoming in more than 50 years and the welcome center is a must to learn about what is available in the State.

Good place for road info

By cubanoca |

The person at the desk gave us better directions than Google.
Google claimed taking the Interstate route 25 / 90 to Hulett would be 5 hours. She said more like 7 hours. She told us to use WY 85 which was more scenic and we got to see some of WY that we would have missed on the Interstate. Worth the stop and the restrooms are clean.

Wy a welcome center

By KJG |

Great exhibits. Friendly staff. Free maps and brochures. Tons of great ideas about places to see in WY. This is a combination museum, welcome center trip planned. Stop in and this is why.

Worth a Visit!

By TxWaccamaw |

Fantastic pit stop. A museum in a rest stop. Free coffee. Get out of your vehicle and stretch your legs.

Very Informative

By smokymtndeb |

Great place to stop and get some history on the state of Wyoming. Clean restrooms. Lots of travel information available here, too!

Not your typical welcome center

By WEB345 |

Wyoming can be proud of this Welcome Center for both its architecture and it's content. Museum quality presentation of historical and current events in the state. Well worth the stop.

Great Stop

By Laura P |

I have discovered Welcome Centers as the place to go in place of Rest Stops. I travel by myself many times and they are usually staffed and clean. This Welcome Center is both; bathrooms large and clean, soap plentiful, water gets hot. Lots of things to look through, information is available for travelers, or just a few minutes to browse and relax. For me, the best part is a fenced in off leash place for the dogs. It has never been crowded, but it has been cleaned and my dog has enjoyed that nice break. When I was there this time a local was giving her dogs a break from running errands and we had a great conversation.

Excellent

By Jane S |

This centre is excellent, there is a cornucopia of information in the form of leaflets and displays. There is a lot to look at and find out .

Love the mammoth diorama

By Daniel B |

Fantastic mammoth display, and the space seemingly purpose built for it! Really beautiful use of rammed earth exterior walls, too. Altogether the best welcome to state I've ever seen!

Free Maps and brochures of attractions , Mammoth Elephant inside

By royrburton |

Great stop and get great info about many attractions like Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Free Map of Wyoming too !

Best Welcome Center Ever - A Must stop

By Dickenson Family |

Stopped in here to use the bathrooms and we were sure glad we did. It has a little museum and lots of information about the State. The building itself is beautiful and it is very clean. Makes all of the other state welcome centers look bad.

Awesome little stop for the kiddos

By Melissa D |

Not only is it a great place to stop for a bathroom break (the bathrooms were super clean), but it was refreshing, fun and informative for the kids. They have a Woolly Mammoth that is to scale, and even a little jail for pictures that includes a mini slide! There were informative movies featuring the history of Wyoming and how people lived back in the day! Computers were set up to talk about their clean energy plans, multiple fun maps, super cool displays featuring the many activities available in Wyoming. The staff was also helpful and friendly. We will make this a regular rest stop when traveling to Wyoming!

Amazing

By kwinters38 |

This was absolutely amazing! Totally enjoyed this rest area and welcome center and found this to be the best ever! Loved the displays and what great history and fun for the whole family! Very clean too!

Great Welcome Center

By John W |

Took a day trip up here while visiting my dad in the Denver area. While some states welcome centers are boring and generic, Wyoming's is pretty elaborate. Quite welcoming with a museum inside including a wooly mammoth skeleton plus walking trails outside on the property. Probably the only other welcome center I've been too that came close was North Dakota's.

A tourist attraction itself (as well as welcome center).

By mtscribe |

This is an amazing place if you can visit when the western hall is open. This history area is a great snapshot of Wyoming history. From mammoth skeleton presented in archaeology dig to "operating" jail cell to current winter sports attractions. This was a fine place to stretch legs and let little one get some exercise of body and mind. Free coffee and water and information available.

Yes, there are also nice restrooms indoors and covered picnic shelters outdoors (along with a comfortable paved walk).

Must-see Rest Stop!

By Cooperton |

Great place to start your exploration of Wyoming! It has excellent restrooms, a mini-museum, and a fun place for the kids to let off some energy. We got excellent information on Wyoming. We were just passing through Wyoming on our way to South Dakota but this place made us want to plan a trip back to explore Wyoming!

Best state V.C. ever

By Poudre1 |

This V.C. is outstanding with information and very friendly staff. This place is more like a museum for the state of Wyoming which warrants an entrance fee but does not have one. Great job Wyoming!

Happy we stopped

By Experience Junkies |

This Welcome Center has fun displays and gives a great representation of things to do in Wyoming. The Volunteer working was friendly and informative! It is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Little Museum + Welcome Center

By Jennifer M |

This little welcome center is a great first stop when visiting Wyoming. Brochures on all major attractions are available. There are also well-done exhibits that tell you about the history of the state. Many of the exhibits are interactive and your kids will have fun going to jail and breaking out!

Good place to start

By stephen z |

Nicely presented showing off the virtues of the state. Folks were eager to help and lots of material real and look at to help with the visit.

Great place to stop

By Debra1909 |

Stopped in to pick up a map and was pleasantly surprised at the mini museum that was there. Pick up all your literature and walk around to see all about Wyoming. Lots of information available and the people working the desk are very knowledgeable and helpful. Great.place to stretxh your legs and relax a bit.

One of the best

By Linda D |

We stopped by here before starting to explore Cheyenne.Right off of I-25. The girl working there was very helpful and informative. There is a museum of sorts right in the visitor center.

Great!

By Maria L |

Like others have said, its a mini museum! Lots of history and displays to view. Upon entering there is a wall and it shows the different type of soils which is boring but the different colors were beautiful! Only spoke a greeting to a staff member but I like that they weren't pushy or tried to engage in conversation since you just want to use the restrooms and look around.

A perfect orientation to Wyoming

By 907blaked |

Even though we were leaving Wyoming (heading back to Denver from Mount Rushmore), we stopped here because of the positive reviews on TA. We really enjoyed the 30 minutes we spent here. There were activities to keep the kids busy while the adults could read the signs, etc.; in a sense, this was almost like a state museum (due to the quality of the educational signage). If you can't do the Wyoming State Museum, this is a decent substitute.

I agree --- best ever. A must see!

By clarson2016 |

Oh WOW! I sure didn't see this coming. We travel a great deal and visitor's centers are a standard stop. Beyond the super clean restrooms, there was so much to see. I gained a lot of information about Wyoming history. Pride in ownership shows here

More than the usual welcome center

By Warren G W |

Very interesting combination of museum, rest stop, information center, and grassy open space for doggies to do their duty. Jack and Winston thoroughly enjoyed this rest stop.

Incredible Welcome Center

By TJ B |

A very nice synopsis of the great outdoor life that Wyoming has to offer. Comfortable, new, and convenient to Interstates 25 and 80.

Grand kids visit

By Charlie S |

I took my two granddaughters here. They both enjoyed seeing the dinos, exploring the tepee and escaping the jail cell.

Take a rest and learn

By romanpiekosz |

Stopping for a bathroom brake can be educational. That's the way these Welcome Centers work. You can learn about the region a lot. There was a display related to drilling for oil and mining the coal - natural resources, which are in this region very popular. There was also a person helping and answering all questions. I really liked this place and this idea of educating the tourists.
RomanP

Great place to stop in, especially for first time visitors to the state.

By WyDave |

It's like a mini museum with some neat things to see. Kids love it. Also have lots of pamphlets for activities to do from all over the state. Restrooms and picnic benches are always available, but the information desk with people available to answer questions, gift shop and mini museum are only open during the day.

Very Nice, But It Never Had the Western Feel!

By travelingrhonda |

The welcome center is a nice stop for the restroom or a picnic. I guess I was disappointed that it didn't feel like the west. It felt modern. It had a huge dinosaur. It had clean modern displays. I like the old west feel and native American collections. The two statues out by the interstate were nice, but I didn't understand who they were.

Not a "must see" If driving by, worth a few minutes

By alwaysplanning50 |

After reading the reviews, I made the Welcome Center a "must see" stop on the trip.

Although interesting, I would say it is OK as a stop if you are driving through and need the welcome center for tourist info and restrooms. The exhibits were informative, but in my opinion did measure up to the rave reviews here.

Staff wt center was not any better or worse than most other "welcome centers."

The picnic tables outside are available.

Wonderful Welcome Center

By HNBISOFF |

The welcome center was wonderful. The staff was extremely helpful. The center has a large quantity of brochures for your visit to Wyoming. The center also provides clean restrooms and coffee.

Great Place

This is a welcome center and rest area but much, much more. There is a small "museum" within the center which gives you a taste of Wyoming and it's history. Several of the displays are interactive which the children will love. It's a great place to stop, stretch and have some fun. There is usually a host available to answer questions you might have on Wyoming or any other needs. Some vending machines with snacks and drinks but no food otherwise. Located on I-25 approximately 4 or 5 miles south of Cheyenne.

Has one of North America’s largest and most complete mammoth skeleton

By M J |

Awesome. The welcome center has brochures, friendly helpful staff and a small museum. In the museum, there is one of North America’s largest and most complete mammoth skeletons (from Casper, WY), old jail cell, teepee and many other old west items. The restrooms are large and clean. The parking lot is large. We spent about 20 minutes at the welcome center. A must stop.

Nice stop!

By Brandi K |

Very nice welcome center, clean and modern. Has a mini museum, kids loved being able to go in the jail cell. Was nice to walk around and stretch out for a couple minutes

This is not your father's rest stop

By PhineusFlog |

It feels weird not just reviewing a Welcome Center, but giving it 5 stars.

Wyoming seems to have hit on a great idea of weaving interactive or museum type exhibits into the state's Welcome Centers. These places are not only a place to stop, but a place to visit and explore. This one in Cheyenne was a bit bigger and had more exhibits than the other one more northwest on Rt 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, but both were excellent.

Traveling between Cheyenne and Laramie a couple times, we stopped at the one on Rt 80 three times, because of the location, its very clean facilities and view of the surrounding landscape.

Its too bad nowhere back east has this foresight to do something like this. Then again, its much easier to travel out West and the travel mentality is enhanced and exploited by these places.

Well worth a stop for interesting information

By Mary W |

We've been before so we knew to allow plenty of time. There's information about the history, geography, places to visit and why you should go there. Lots to read about on the walls and literature to take on areas you might want to go. Planty of car parking, clean toitles and friendly helpful staff to answer your questons. I took photos of the mammoth replica and of the interesting facts/figures on the large wall panels, as there's a lot to take in and remember

Free Micro-Museum!

By FCmomofabunch |

This place is amazing! A little bit of history of the state of Wyoming, free coffee, tons of pamphlets to review. We were headed out on a camping trip with friends to a place I'd never heard of (Vedauwoo, WY), and they had a pamphlet about the place! Stop here, use the facilities, and stretch your legs walking through the museum. What a welcoming place!

A Must See- they got their $12M worth

By Ramblingwelove |

The architecture of the building is gorgeous. Its only a few years old and has history of Wyoming, photo op sections, a mammoth skeleton and 3D displays of things to do in Wyoming. I read that the building cost $12 million. It looks worth every penny.

Nice quick stop - good bathrooms! Fun for a short time for kids

By AndreS000000 |

About half the exhibits were out of order, but it was still a good place to kill 20-30 minutes with young kids. The bathrooms are great.

They have a pretend jail with secret escape slide for the little ones, and a few cool things to see. It's free - I say stop in and spend a few minutes here.

Great!

By Brian Smith |

This place is incredible.

The best welcome center I have ever stopped in. My kids didn't want to leave. Do youself a favor and stop in.

Best one we’ve seen!

By Heather J |

This has to be the best welcome center ever. It’s clean inside and out. Has a super display to see. My teenagers enjoy d it. We didn’t need them but they had nice free dump station and place to fill water.

Great new visitors center

By NOregrets-Traveler |

They have a great display for all the sections of Wy. Inside they have a complete Mastedon skeleton on display. Also have other displays.

worth the stop

By mayfieldmom |

This is much more than a rest stop - it's a little museum! The building itself is architecturally interesting as well. The visitor's center was staffed by a very nice and knowledgeable gentleman who helped us find the maps and brochures we needed. Several states have their information here. Worth pulling off the highway for this welcome center.

ok

By guax |

Travel advisors were not particularly forthcoming or friendly, but
they did offer some brochures which were useful.

The 'museum' is more kitsch than substantive.

Outstanding Welcome to Wyoming

By DiveMoreWorkLess |

We've traveled the country extensively and always make a point to visit state welcome centers, which tend to offer a wealth of information, tips and recommendations, but the Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center is without a doubt the nicest, most comprehensive welcome center we've encountered to date.

A walk inside the center feels more like entering a nice museum rather than a visitors' center, and one can find absolutely any information about most cities, attractions and activities in the entire state of Wyoming, along with interesting history and geological information about the state. The staff was adequate, not as excited as we expected them to be, but when we inquired about restaurants in the Cheyenne area, we were given a nice booklet which contained coupons and special offerings for Cheyenne attractions and restaurants. We would not have obtained this booklet, however, unless we asked.

I highly recommend a visit to this welcome center if you wish to learn anything and everything about the great state of Wyoming.

Fun and Educational

By Christina C |

Wow! We just needed to stop and stretch our legs. Plan to spend some time at this Visitor Center. Between the mammoth skeleton and old time jail cell, there is plenty to entertain you.

More than a Rest Area / Spotty WiFi

By Yvaughn |

If you've traveled Wyoming, you know that the Rest Areas can be few and far between. Heading south on 25, this Welcome Center is the closest Rest Area after Chugwater, almost an hour north. But this is much more. They have a nature trail--of sorts--and displays, as well as free maps and stickers and scores of brochures about places to go and things to do in Wyoming. The bathrooms and water fountains are great and clean. There are concrete picnic tables and benches outside, as well.

The only problem I had here was their claim of free WiFi. My Chromebook couldn't connect. I couldn't even get my mobile hotspot to work. Then again... Wyoming.

Worth the Stop

By Layne S |

As welcome centers go, this one is outstanding. Aside from getting maps and travel information, there are terrific displays that show Wyoming nature and history. Well worth locals bringing out of state guests. If you are travelling on I-25 through Wyoming, be sure to stop.

A Very Nice Stop

By swift98b |

We blew by this place late in the day on our way to Cheyenne for a couple days. The next morning we drove back down the highway to give it a visit. We are glad we did that.

It is a little museum and welcome center combined. The museum has some historical information about the early days of Wyoming which is presented in a series of videos. They were good. It also has other static displays and a mammoth skeleton. As far as the welcome center part is concerned, they had quite a bit of literature. We didn't have any questions for the staff, but we heard them providing good information to other visitors. You can get a free coffee, but we dropped some coin into the donation box. Restrooms are very clean.

This place hasn't been open for very long, so it is still nice and bright shiny new. We make a habit of stopping at state welcome centers, and I would say this is about the best we have ever seen.

A Must Stop on Your Journey Into Wyoming

By Barbara P |

The Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center has been at its current location on 5611 High Plains Road since 2012. Prior to that time, it was up the road a little bit, quite near the gas stations and fast food restaurants on the exit ramp of I-25 and College. The new location is not near any restaurants, which is its only drawback.

There's a walking path around the facility, so you can get out and stretch your legs and read the information on the signs. The Wind Code sculpture is actually a couple of sculptures - make sure you see both.

The bathrooms of the Welcome Center are open 24/7 - this place also serves as a rest area for truckers and cars and there is ample parking.

There are volunteer staff on duty during open hours and they are extremely knowledgeable about what's going on in the entire state of Wyoming, and they will provide you with brochures and information. The mammoth sculpture is fun, and there are some other small exhibits also, as well as rack upon rack of brochures.

If you're driving through Wyoming but not sure what to see, this is a MUST stop.

Went in to go to the bathroom

By RichardG0zinya |

Walked out amazed and all the cool stuff they have in there! May very well be the best rest stop/welcome center in the country!

Vacation

By trams37 |

Very nice visitors center! Enjoyed our time there.See pictures to see the beauty. Lots of information for all regions of Wyoming.

Best Welcome Center Ever!

By Sherri G |

We had no idea when we stopped that we were in for such a treat! The exhibits are amazing and the man at the desk was so engaging! He really was interested in what people were doing and wanted them to have a great experience in Wyoming! I wish every welcome center was as nice! Great job!!

Great stop!!!

By Amber F |

We stopped here on out cross country road trip to have a quick lunch, bathroom Break and school lesson. The picnic facilities were great and had wind blockers. My kids had a blast running around the yard and the inside.... It was an amazing interactive history lesson. I have never seen anything like this at a welcome center. It reminded me of the interactive history area of our children's museum in Columbus. My kids had a blast in the jail with the escape slide and exploring the covered wagon and tipi. It is worth the 4 miles off 80 to go visit. The lady working the desk was great with the kids and was very knowledgable about the state.

MORE than just an Information / Welcome Center

By Charles K |

This is a VAST improvement over the original Wyoming Welcome Center that it replaces! There are interactive displays, tons of brochures, plenty of stuff to read via posters and / or literature, videos, and outdoor runs when the weather is better.

The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. There are outdoor tables when you stop for a lunch. I agree with other reviews that for anyone who approaches Wyoming from the south that this SHOULD be the FIRST STOP. It IS more of a mini museum than an information center. Stop, take a rest from the road and enjoy.

The best!

By Suzanne S |

Best welcome center I have been to! It really prepares you for travel in WY. The ladies working there were so helpful. If you stop, make sure to take the time and walk through to see the history of WY. It may just add a few destinations to your list of things to do!

Nicest visitor's/ rest area, ever!

By Danainfranklin |

The architecture and grounds are fantastic. The inside is beautiful and informative. Do not miss the two story Woolly Mammoth inside.

Great travel resource at entry to WY on I-25

By Steven M |

Beautiful, contemporary building including a museum in addition to clean, safe restrooms. Attendant was very he[pful with driving directions and Cheyenne restaurant recommendation.

Easily the Best Welcome Center

By kelli320 |

We were staying in Ft Collins and made a day trip to Cheyenne, specifically stopping at the Visitors Center on the way in. It's basically a mini museum. In addition to all of the usual rest stop amenities(bathrooms-which were very clean, coffee/tea, brochures and maps) there are displays and history of the area. Amazing dinosaur fossils, native american displays, outdoor sporting activities and historically info. The attendant was very helpful in supplying maps and suggestions when we asked.
There is a walking path around the property, and an area to walk your dogs.
Well worth your stop!

A Wyoming Welcome Walking thru History

By RayK_houseofheroes |

As a "History Buff" and a veteran, this would be considered a "must see stop." However this was simply a typical rest stop on our way to shop and visit museums in downtown Cheyenne. What a pleasant surprise to have a museum experience while making a casual rest stop on our trip. We spent about an hour here but could have spent more time enjoying the exhibits. The exhibits present the past and present attractions of Wyoming and represent the state very well to visitors.

By craig t |

For a visitors center this is a must stop. Talk about fun for all. Wyoming sign, tee pee, mammoth, jail, educational for kids. Stop in and check it out.

Wyoming info center

By R535LEgaryb |

This place is like a mini museum about Wyoming. Lots of information I didn't know after living here 27 years. Definitely worth the stop.

Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center A Worthwhile Stop

By Selway M |

This center is very strategically placed off I80/I25 freeways. It has great parking, very clean restrooms and the largest collection of free printed WY information anywhere. The displays depicting early Native American activities as well as early and current mining activities were very well done. I was disappointed not to see at least something about the early influence of the army Fort Russell and the current FE Warren Air Force Base.

Driven by 100 times, first stop was more than just a welcome

By Barry D |

We stopped because we needed a rest area. We stayed 30 minutes because it was so much more than that. Lots of great Wyoming history as well as contemporary exhibits and information. Brochures from just about any place in Wyoming that you might be traveling to. Much more than a Welcome Center. Much more than a Rest Area. This is a great place to stop when entering Wyoming on I-25 from Colorado.

Great place to walk off some road weariness along I-25

By Kristi P |

This place is a great spot to take a road break and see some really cool things. A lot of detail was put into this amazing rest area and you wont be disappointed.

So Much More Than Just a "Pit Stop"

By ROCtraveler30 |

Having read past reviews I knew we had to stop, but frankly my expectations were pretty low - just how exciting can a highway rest stop be in Wyoming? But boy were we blown away once we got there! In addition to the obligatory facilities there were a number of well-done exhibits on history, geology, industry, recreation, etc. And it is all housed in a building facility that is an ecological showpiece. There is a wealth of information/maps/brochures about everything Wyoming that you can take away to prime your visit. Since we stopped on a fairly quiet morning we got to have a very interesting chat with the attendant who was on duty as well.

A Must See for the Entire Family

By Kaye B |

This is a wonderful depiction of the history of Wonderful Wyoming! It describes it well and appropriate for all ages. There is something that every age will enjoy! This truly is a must see! Just fabulous!!!

This is so much more than a welcome cemter- a museum, a visitor center, etc.

By barbarabacklin |

This place was a bit of a surprise/. In addition to clean bathrooms and free coffee, there were life-size displays of pioneer life, western relics, and information on the history of Wyoming. Definitely worth a stop!

Definitely worth a visit

By 2Keizers |

Nice, clean welcome center with a good amount of info and history. Definitely worth stopping in for a visit.

Day trip from CO

By clougie |

Great place for Wyoming history & information. The staff was helpful in guiding us towards hiking & downtown interests. Great walking gardens highlighting flora. A must stop!

Very Helpful!

By TMS2014 |

This was a wonderful welcome welcome to the great state of Wyoming! Great recommendations for things to do and see while we're here!

Worth the stop.

By Kathie L |

I've been driving past the welcome center for a couple of years and finally went in. What a nice place! Big windows so you have good views of the grassland. The exhibits were very cool, interactive displays for the kids, good picture opportunities. More than I expected!

Superb welcome centre

By bongo54 |

Wow - what an amazing welcome centre, I wish we did them like this in the UK, certainly puts us to shame. Great building, well laid out. Complimentary coffee in the entrance. Lots of leaflets, books, maps etc to browse. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. Interesting displays of western history. Excellent place, highly recommended.

By Americangirl52 |

Do not pass this by. They have all kinds of tourist info and wonderful displays. Kids will love this stop as will everyone else.

Far better than the average rest stop

By COGuest |

This is a modern and clean building that not only has free parking and rest rooms, but a mini-museum. Lots of free brochures and maps, and a great place to stretch your legs. Stop here often when driving this bit of highway. Nicer place than a truck stop. Only downside is that the walking area outside the building is often marred by dog droppings that smell and look nasty. Watch your step! Highly recommend and will return.

Worth the trip even if you live in Cheyenne

By CheyenneShores |

So much fun and great things to see - it's inconvenient if you live in Cheyenne (south of town on I-25), but we take all our out-of-town guests there to see the exhibits and vignettes of Wyoming inside the visitor's center.

By lee c |

Stopped for the restrooms and found so much more. The welcome staff that day was extremely knowlegeable on every subject from local author of Longmire books to wind energy farms. This welcome center is set up as a mini museum. Take time to tour. Best free tour in town.

Stop here! It's worth a half hour to see the displays and get great information

By Carrie C |

What an amazing welcome center. Far from the dry, undecorated racks of brochures you often find, this welcome center has fossils of dinosaurs, a mammoth!, and some historical displays. You have a few great photo ops as well for your vacation memories. Excellent info and helpful employees. Don't miss the petrified conifer wood at the entrance.

Must see stop on I-25

By 2016BigHornRAM |

We really enjoyed the visit. We stopped on our way to Cheyenne. I think this is a MUST SEE, on your way up I-25.

Dont forget to ask for your free stickers!

By xjosey_walesx |

Great rest stop, modern and full of information and pamphlets for the local area and Wyoming state. Wyoming tourism is currently doing a sticker trail to promote the state! Ask here for your map and free stickers. The map will tell you other places in the state where you can get more stickers. A fun place to stop. It even has a big dinosaur skeleton!!

An Unexpected Surprise in a Visitor Center

By Shannon L |

Not only does this have all the necessary requirements for a visitor center (volunteer, coffee, brochures, bathrooms) it also has all the makings of a mini-museum with a little bit of art and paleontology. It even has a walking trail!

If you have never been to Wyoming a must stop

By Nated2519 |

If you have never been to Wyoming this is a must stop. You can get free info and maps about attractions, hotels, throughout Wyoming. Also great displays about Wyoming.

Wyoming Welcome

By Sox_The_Wanderer |

Really good spot to pull off and come in and get organized for your adventures in Wyoming. Lots of information on different towns and activities around the state. And the young lady was super helpful. It made for a fascinating stop as I explored all of the displays at the Center. Really like how the state does that and its unique compared to other states I passed through.

Modern, welcoming and informative

By Bill T |

Great place to stop. Has a well planned and informative layout with displays covering such things as the environment and outlaws. Well worth a visit to pick up your information / brochures and to browse around

A Wonderful Surprise on the Interstate

By TOMMYB961 |

We were headed towards Cheyenne and stopped off at the welcome center to get some information on Wyoming. A very pleasant surprise awaited us inside. I wasn't expecting a mini museum. Wish more Welcome Centers was like this...instead of just restrooms and vending machines.

This is a MUST STOP, entering SE Wyoming!

By b6012 |

This is a new visitor center and rest area. Both car and truck parking. Easy on/off the interstate. Looks interesting from the highway, but wait till you get inside. It has the history of Wyoming, human guides to help you with your visit and a great place to take entire families (even ones who don't like to take their eyes off their electronics!). Experience much of Wyoming, plan your trip because of this stop and you will be very happy with the time you spent there!!

Don't pass this place up!!!!!!

By PamelaJReid |

The most awesome welcome center I have ever seen! ! A great stop for home schooled children or any family! Clean, lots of interesting things to see and a ton of maps and brochures to pick from. Coffee and hot tea is available. Restrooms are large and clean. There is a dog exercise area outdoors to unleash and let them play. Doggie disposal bags available. I could go on and on.....just stop here!

Way more than a welcome center!

By Norm G |

Redefines the term 'welcome center'! 'Museum' might better describe it. State of the art, gorgeous, all the bells and whistles, and exhibits all about Wyoming. For someone who entered the state for the first time in my life (my loss, I know), it gave me everything I needed: a detailed map of the state for free, a sense of how Wyoming people see themselves, some of the favorite pastimes, a little history, and info. on any subject I needed help with. Friendly staff gave me some great recommendations. I loved it! Stop in even if you don't need a rest!

Free place to get free info about Wyoming and some neighboring states

By norman v |

The nice places are often sold out in Cheyenne. Get reservations ahead of time or sleep in your car at the welcome center parking lot with a dozen semis and other cars. Nothing for sale, hundreds of maps and books are free when they are open. The restrooms are open night and day inside the beautiful building. Concrete walls look like million year old rock outcroppings. Enjoy.

Surprising

By Tennesseepasskid |

This was a filler for the morning that turned into a great experience! The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. The interactive exhibits are fun and there is a wealth of early pioneer and native cultures!

Stop here for the info, stay a bit for the museum...

By WorldTvlerParker_CO |

Right off I-25, easy to get there....great facilities. Friendly staff, and lots of good info for all areas of Wyoming. Walk around and get a history lesson, learn about the cowboy culture, skiing, and paleontology! Great place...be ready to spend at least 45 min here..it’s a great place!

Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center

By Jerry S |

The Welcome Center is quite interesting and offers much more than "a welcome" as it has numerous exhibits and offers an insight to the early Wyoming lifestyle. The outside of the building appears quite strange. It is steel and glass with a modern design and would probably be very appropriate in New York City but it does not at all "blend" with Wyoming and the West. We live in Cheyenne and have yet to find anyone who likes the exterior design. Aside from the exterior, as said, it is completely different inside and is well worth a visit. Probably something like "don't judge a book by its cover".

You are always welcome!

By Louise L |

This was a great place to get information on Wyoming as well as a bathroom break. We got a free poster of Devils Tower or The Grand Tetons by filling out a 5 minute survey. Becky W was on duty that day and answered all our questions and you could tell she was a great person to come to for info on Wyoming. This place was like a mini museum so definitely a super good place to stop at. Also free coffee.

Probably The Finest Visitor Center In The U.S.

By William R |

The trip from Sidney, NE to Avon, CO (about 4 1/2 hrs) passes through the high plains. I-80 intersects with I-25 passes through the Southeast corner of Wyoming and with blind, stupid, dumb luck, we stopped at the Southeast Wyoming Welcome Center. WOW we’re we impressed! It’s beautiful, clean and extremely traveler friendly. Located one exit before Colorado (and the ALWAYS horrendous traffic), this is a jewel for highway traveling.

A Great Surprise

By Helena L |

Well worth a stop for 30 minutes. The Welcome Center tells the story of Wyoming through a number of well presented displays and films. The Mammoth skeleton is huge.

Everything is free and well well worth the stop. Do not miss out on learning a lot more about the great state of Wyoming.

Beautiful construction, but truly not needed

By Barb F |

I do not like the cost to the taxpayer! What they had before was just as nice, if not nicer; more outdoors than the new one but the view was nice, pleasant to sit and have a lunch, etc.,

I often wonder if these governors realize what the un-needed overbuilding is doing to their land as a whole? I wonder the same of over-building of highways. We are using lands that were once wetlands, very important to the health of the whole planet, using farmlands to build huge homes on for say two people and a dog...just to we old people, we can see the outcome of the haste and waste in today's world.

Very cool placeto stop!

By Holly D |

There is much more in here than expected, they even managed to fit a mammoth on there! I would highly recommend it. There are tons of Whyoming brochures and the facilities are clean and welcoming.

Beautiful facility

By cwmacphail |

Beautiful facility. WiFi, restrooms, exhibits, free coffee, etc. the info lady was somewhat helpful in suggesting a campground.

Great stop

By houstonnative47 |

We stopped here on our way to Rapid City from Denver. We were surprised to see a mammoth inside! Great display plus other displays from the area. We would have stayed longer if we didn't have such a long drive ahead of us. The staff was friendly and informative. I was able to find lots of brochures available for the areas that we were visiting later in our trip.

Great start to your visit to Wyoming

By cbs5prodman |

Only a couple of years old, this place is worth the stop. Inside are exhibits of museum quality and plenty of pamphlets detailing everything Wyoming has to offer. Notice the two statues, one on each side of the overpass depicting a trapper and Native American greeting each other on the frontier.

Very Pleasantly Surprised!

By AlumniGuy |

Brought our bus group here for the typical 30 minute rest stop...had to extend the time due to the incredibly interesting and professional exhibits. This is very much a museum quality attraction and it's amazing that they don't charge admission. We learned quite a bit about Wyoming history and locations where we'd like to stop the next time we roll through.

Nicest Pit Stop Ever!

By Sherb1 |

While I think this is somehow misclassified on trip advisor, this has to be one of the nicest visitor's centers I've ever seen. I loved the photo ops and the info available is amazing.

Very nice

By Dianne S |

Decided to stop and check for maps. Lots of neat displays about the history of he state. Helpful staff and lots of literature

Vacation

By Ayla M |

This is a gorgeous building. They have a museum that you walk through and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. I’m so glad we stopped there first. We had a idea what we were going to do but they helped us to better plan our visit there. Thank you so much!

Neatest Visitor Center

By Carl R |

Most Visitors Centers are just restrooms and tourist information. This one has a small museum about fossils, dinausaurs.and stuff about Wyoming.

Welcome change in opening hours

By JNE |

On Sept. 6 we again stopped here with 15 people on the way back from Yellowstone, figuring the welcome center would be open on a Tuesday. It was and everyone was really glad we stopped as the facility is most interesting, informative and well done, a very worthwhile stop. Most important, the little sign on the entrance doors to the main area now says open every day, unlike last time when we were so disappointed that the display rooms weren't open weekends. I change my rating from 1 to 5.

More than a Welcome Center

By Michael P |

Even if all you want is a rest from driving this is the place to stop. It is part rest stop and mostly a museum of what sights there are to see during your Wyoming visit. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable proving this is more than a welcome center.

Great welcome center

By Gwen N |

Having been in 46 of the 50 states by car, I've been in lots of welcome centers. This is by far one of the best I've been in. The displays were phenomenal. Even the outside had a walking path with interesting information about Wyoming. One I was most impressed by was the States use of the blizzard fences. The restrooms were eco friendly and very clean and well done.

A Good Place to Stretch Your Legs

By David S |

The Welcome Center is a good-sized place to walk around indoors or out. There is a wealth of information as well as some of Wyoming's history on display to take in on the inside.

Great half hour stop off.

By Rob T |

Beautiful building. Friendly staff that worked there. Stopped in on way to friends place in Cheyenne. Entrance is more of quick welcome center with info for the state parks etc....
Then you get to the 2nd half which is like a mini museum of Wyoming. From excavation, history, parks, and recreational.

Nicest rest area

By MKF1991 |

It was a great place to stop and stretch our legs. Inside is a small museum that was free opened 7a to 7p. You can get free Cheyenne stickers one for each party in group. Bathrooms are very clean. We have a RV and stayed here during the nights during Cheyenne frontier days. Very safe area. Would suggest highly on visiting.

What a well done, informative Welcome Center

By Texasmom04 |

We were just stopping to use the restrooms but we were surprised to find an extremely informative, beautifully designed, interactive Welcome Center with great displays, maps, guidebooks, and vacation planning brochures. I had fun and learned so much about the history of the state. Great stop to stretch your legs, enjoy free coffee, and get lots of information. Appropriate for all ages.

Wonderful surprise...

By oh-happy-rain |

While traveling across country sweetheart and I randomly stopped at this welcome center and what a lovely surprise ! I never imagined I'd write a review about a welcome center but this place was exceptional ! It is a great little mini museum complete with mammoth skeleton and more information on Wyoming than you ever thought to ask. Friendly folks, free coffee, cool stone slab walls, extremely clean. If you can, plan to spend a little time here and take advantage of the displays. By far the most impressive welcome center we have ever been to ! I d like to bring my grandson here.

Impressive center, reasonably useful information

By Lynne F |

Stopped in here just to see the place - which was pretty cool. I can't say I was overwhelmed by the information they provided, but on the other hand, there's not a whole lot in Cheyenne for tourists. I'm sure it's a nice town, but not particularly a destination.

a surprise to find this

By Fiona H |

just a regular comfort break stop, and opened the door to find all this. it was a great surprise, and even had some photo ops. worth spending 20 mins to break up your journey.

This is more like a museum.

By kethab |

This is a great pit stop. Very interesting exhibits. We loved everything. Interesting dinosaur exhibit and frontier artifacts.

Nice Stop

By James S |

Very skeptical about this stop wondering how can a welcome center be rated so high, but it was surprisingly worth the stop. Very educational and interesting, and i'm glad I made the stop.

Your first stop entering Wyoming travel territory

By Gwedo S |

A must stop for every visitor traveling I-90 west. Very interesting historical items to see plus maps, coupons and traveler guides where and what to see and how to get there. Staffed by very friendly folks it may be your last chance for Wi-Fi and phone signals for many providers. Don’t plan on using that ‘Sync’ or ‘hot spot’ unless it’s AT&T or Verizon. The Garmin unit stopped working just west of Rapids City, South Dakota. Get out the spyglass and sextant, the rest of the trip navigates the old way…by map, compass and sheer luck.

Very interesting with information regarding Wyoming.

By footbal1951 |

A new facility, it has a wonderful view of the mountains to the west. Well maintained and very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Best welcome center..... EVER

By stevensH5858KW |

Boy was I shocked when I walked in. Clean and well lit. Place is amazing. The lady at the desk was very helpful in answering my questions.

Really worth the stop!

By tootallhiker |

This new location makes sense and is convenient as you come over the border from Colorado. It contains extensive exhibits that represent many aspects of Wyoming's history and lifestyles. Exhibits are also fun for kids. Staff is friendly and very helpful and I agree with previous reviewer that they do have many, many brochures and resources available for visitors. Bathrooms are very clean. Notice that the building's walls are made of compacted earth - you don't see that everywhere. It's one of the nicer Visitor Centers I've been to.

Great introduction to Wyoming!

By travelj60 |

One of the best visitor centers I've ever seen. It is actually a mini-trip in itself and depicts the scenery, wildlife, etc. for all of Wyoming. Great place to come to plan your trip! Very helpful people.

A no-brainer

By Katie M |

If you're traveling through this area of the state, stop here! Hours are 7-7, and the price is free! Interesting exhibits for adults and children feature some state history and some current information. It's a quick stop - allow 30 minutes or so, but well worth your time.

Nicest travel center

By KariG668 |

This is hands down the nicest/coolest travel center/rest stop we have ever been to. Tons of parking, picnic areas, large clean bathrooms and then there is the information center. Great place for kids to walk around and play. A jail cell, videos, a large fossil, informative train section and covered wagon. Two nice ladies working and a nice large brochure area. Just wow.

welcome to wyoming

By Robert P |

Excellent way to start your visit to Wyoming. We have lived here for 35 years and spent 2-3 hours there looking at the displays and listening to the video presentations. Information about all of Wyoming's opportunities. A must for the first time visitor.

One of the best on the Interstate system

By D T |

It's hard to get excited by a rest area/welcome center, but this one is among the best around. Not only are the facilities modern and clean, but there is an abundance of information always available. And when it's open, there is a mini-museum and numerous displays to see. A docent at the front desk is very helpful and welcoming.

Far More than a Rest Stop

By Robert58213 |

My family stopped here, expecting a typical rest stop. What we found, in addition to the cleanest facilities we have ever seen in a public location, was something far different -- an interesting introduction to Wyoming's history. We didn't have time to take it all in, but I would recommend to others that they put some time aside and take advantage of the exhibits both inside and outside the Welcome Center.

Roadside Gem

By Amanda G |

Fun little stop on the interstate just south of Cheyenne. Great basic information on the state of Wyoming, the exhibits were well displayed, and interactive.

Great stop when entering Wyoming

By Something Tookish |

As a Wyoming resident I thought I would see how Wyoming was being presented here. I was very impressed. They have wonderful displays and a helpful staff for pointing out the highlights of where to go and what to see. The whole family should appreciate the stop here.

One of the nicest welcome centers I've been to.

By Lee Z |

Lots of information, nice employees/volunteers, beautiful building with nice western displays. A very informative stop!

Almost like a museum

By phillyjack257 |

Plan to spend 20-30 minutes here just looking at displays and info on nearby historic locations. Very freindly and knowledgeable greeters.

Like a small museum

By Nashville_brent_65 |

Note that this is a visitors center but what a great one!
Spend at least thirty minutes here and get a feel for the history of Wyoming!
Definitely worth taking some extra time to stop.

Informative and eye catching

By NOLASIA |

Can't find a better designed building to get relief. It also has displays of everything Wyoming and travel brochures to show you where they are. Landscaping quite nice too. WY not Wyoming!

Really nice welcome center.

By R N |

Went here yesterday and this is much improved over the previous one. Very clean and impressive layout of the facility.

Clean

By Patty R |

Very clean restrooms! Lots of information, like a mini museum. Easy on and off the highway, will stop again.

This place is an excellent stop!

By Deanna O |

In addition to a plethora of information, stickers for your RV, maps and even a small pennant (all complimentary) you will see exhibits here, highlighting all the wonderful things to see and do while you're here. One of the nicest visitors centers I've been in

What a pleasant surprise.

By Duane G |

This is not your typical rest stop only. This is the most interesting rest stops/ visitors centers we have ever visited. It reminded me of a museum about Wyoming and I found it to be very informative and I will probably go back again.

Much more than I expected!

By HappyTrails12345 |

This is a great place to get information about the whole state of Wyoming, and it's also worth visiting as an attraction all by itself.

I've been to many visitor centers but this one is over the top, with much more of interest than I ever expected. It is more like a museum, with very well-done exhibits on many aspects of Wyoming. There is a fossil of a woolly mammoth, an Indian tipi, great exhibits about Wyoming's settlers (including the homesteaders), Wyoming's nature and animals, and much more. I came away with about five pounds of brochures about every different region of Wyoming - this visitor center has information about the entire state. Very clean and ample bathrooms, too, plus free coffee and tea. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Great place to stop for information and free coffee

By kghudson |

Stopped here on way back to Colorado from Cheyenne. Easy to get to, tons of information on the area and state and very helpful staff and free coffee!! Definitely worth the stop in

Fantastic

By sgymz |

This is more than just a regular welcome center with very clean bathrooms, helpful people and all types of literature for things to do in the state of Wyoming. It is also like walking through a history of the state with awesome displays.

An excellent r.s.

By M T |

This is a REAL rest stop. Free rv dump, fresh water and, unlike the drugged, greedy state that Colorado, which we passed thru without spending money has become In the last 9 years, they have real dumpsters which means travelers don't trash out the place. They have highway signs saying free wifi, but I couldn't find the ssid. Comfortable until the fool from Texas parked his generator right outside our bedroom window and ran it ALL NIGHT LONG. I've been thru Texas too, ignorance runs rampant in Texas so we weren't surprised. We were were even more annoyed when their uncontrolled offspring started running around unchecked, beating on the side of our motorhome and just being a loud and unwelcome nuisance at 6am. Usually though, these types of inconsiderate idiots aren't common and this is still our favorite stop in the region.

Nice stop as you enter SE Wyoming

By James H |

Beautiful place for a stop after a long drive thru Colorado. Updated building with really sharp bathrooms and information staff. We stayed about one to take in all the free pamphlets, historical displays, and many other displays. My kids loved going to jail and escaping out small tunnel. They have maps of Wyoming and lots of information about the state. This is a must see if you are driving by or going to visit Wyoming!

Best ever Visitors Center!

By Lokoloko123 |

We are full time RVers and this is by far the best visitors center we have ever been to. It was built in 2013, but appears even newer that that. The various displays inside are very informative regarding the surrounding area. Plenty of literature on all attractions. Friendly staff. Huge modern restrooms. And best of all - a free dump station and potable water for fresh water if RVing! Also separate parking area for cars vs trucks and RVs. Extremely nice!

Fun & educational

By Bernard W |

The Mammoth skeleton is huge. The exhibits about Wyoming both fun and educational. Plan 1/2 hour. Free. Good bathrooms. Lots of state information. We ate our picnic lunch here at shaded picnic area.

A "Must Stop" to/ from Wyoming

By B Alice T |

This was a really nice and informative - not to mention just fun - Welcome Center. It has a very creative layout and features a lot of Wyoming information as well. Very nice to browse in and also take pictures in. I was very glad I stopped.

Better than a Museum who would have thought

By Masondixon71 |

Every time we cross the Colorado border into Wyoming we always take the time to visit this welcome center. It really should be called a Museum and History Center and it has super clean facilities

The best visitors center anywhere

By randomMA |

We went here primarily because it is listed as the #1 thing to do if visiting Cheyenne. My thinking was if this is the best activity in he city there must not be much to see or do however when we got there I understood why it is so popular. Since we retired over 13 years we have traveled all over the USA and have visited many, many visitors centers and I do not recall any as nice as this one. It's 3 years old and right off the highway just before you get to Cheyenne (if you are travelling north on 25). The exhibits are very nice and informative. Plenty of free information about Cheyenne and the rest of Wyoming.

Nice place for a travel break.

By LorPasco |

Stopped to learn about the statues on the overpass.Lovely landscaping, interesting exhibits about Wyoming, friendly, knowledgeable young man at the help desk.

BEST Visitor's Center EVER!!!

By VanEsq12 |

Unlike most visitor centers, this building also houses a mini-museum of local culture, history and archeological finds. It's like a free museum! There are even interactive displays for children. Use this rest stop to really stretch your legs and learn more about the area. The exhibits alone are worth stopping for!

Not just a welcome center

By DebDOHiO |

I loved this stop. We needed a break and this has it all. Art, maps, history. This was a good find so if you are able to make this stop it is good for families and young and old. Make sure you go to all levels and go all the way to the back and around the whole center. Pick up some maps and attraction guides. The hiking information and camping information is very valuable. Enjoy your visit to the Wyoming Welcome Center

This is a must stop!

By erfarmgal |

Take the time and visit this Welcome Center it's well worth it! Great and detailed displays that are unique to Wyoming!

Fun for kids!

By blackieboswell |

This was an interesting little welcome center. It had lots of local info and several interesting displays, including an exhibit of a replica of a dinosaur. Also there were some things for kids to play on or if you just need to get off the road and stretch your legs, they offer a trail that is probably close to a mile that wraps around the property. worth the stop, but not the most extensive welcome center that i've seen.
Also, they offer free coffee/tea.

GREAT PLACE

By jerrybZ4731VG |

this is a great place to stop and check out has a lot of information on the state of Wyoming and also the railroad, the exhibits were great.

An unexpected top

By MapleLeaf1867 |

Didn't know this place was here and it was an unexpected stop for us while we were driving by after doing some sightseeing in Colorado. The sculpture outside was neat and enjoyed climbing around on it.

All you could want in a welcome center

By Nicole K |

Clean and well maintained restrooms, a great seating area, coffee, and friendly help. Tons of cute stuff to walk through and stretch out the legs. It was very surprising and informative.

Great visitor center

By 363Dan-Dundon |

I've been to dozens of state welcome but have never seen one quite as sophisticated as this one. They have cool exhibits that are entertaining as well as educational. I felt like I had visited a museum. If you're going to spend any time in the state take the time to visit this location if coming from the southeast.

A nice stop on the edge of Cheyenne WY

By Daniel E |

My Wife and I had a nice rest stop on our way to Cheyenne. The design of the building was superb with great views of the area. The displays inside were first rate and the staff was very helpful. the restrooms were also very clean

Great stop!

By Caitlin N |

We got a lot of great maps & info books for the entire state. I think it was worth it just for that, they had an entire organized wall full of information! They also had very clean bathrooms and good parking.

Wonderful stop when entering Wyoming

By phicksPhicks |

Stop at the information centre for the services and to get maps and tourist information. We entered the building to Country Music, a real person playing his guitar and singing memorable songs. At the information desk we received free coffee and a cake. Everyone very helpful answering our questions and giving us maps and additional information on our chosen route. Highly recommended.

You need to stop in

By tattoolady1 |

Pick up some brochures, look at the mastodon that is just outside the lobby. Lots of art spread out amongst the property. Many brochures to help you decide what you would like to see in this beautiful state. I would like to take at least a week or more to explore this state

One of the best

By ki0ki |

Mini museum introduction to Wyoming. Lady working there not too friendly. But this is a must stop entering in to Wyoming. Start your sticker collection here.

Nice Facility

By momofacowgirl |

This was a great place to stop and get pamphlets for Wyoming. The building is very nice, and it was good to see the earth friendly design.

A great introduction to Wyoming for travelers or even locals.

By corvid4570 |

Much more than just a Welcome Center, it has exhibits and a very knowledgeable staff well versed in Wyoming history, geography, and current events. Maps and brochures are available, most are free as of course is admission to the facility.

Nice and really different

By claudiaeva1500 |

Took the extra mile and specifically drove there because of the good reviews.
And can confirm it was worth the drive. Lots of information broschures for all parts of Wyoming, nice ladies who answer questions and....the little -kind of museum with short films about history, maps and information and a decoration prison and bar with films about rodeo

Very Nice

By redshoe13 |

Has more there than I thought it would, and you can pick up a coupon book. Pretty good coupons in it.

A first class must see for locals and travelers

By TDYNET |

The welcome center is truly phenomenal! The staff is exceptionally learned and friendly. You can see that they love what they do and they represent Wyoming remarkably well. The facility is equally impressive and provides Wyoming geography, history and many facets of the "forever west" that is Wyoming. I definitely recommend a visit here.

Great Introduction to Wyoming

By Neil R |

We were very impressed with this ``Welcome Center.'' So much more than just a place to get a map and ``stretch your legs.'' The Welcome Center offers an excellent overview of Wyoming natural & human history. This is done through the means of very informative displays and interactive videos. The building itself is striking in design and blends well with the vast rolling landscape of South East Wyoming.

Lived up to its reputation.

By MaryU82 |

Did not want to miss this place after reading the reviews on trip advisor. And it did live up to its reputation. It is not at all what you expect from a visitor center. It was actually a mini museum that is free of charge. Children will love visiting the old jail with the secret escape. It also has nice clean bathrooms any friendly staff.

Fun pit stop with young kids

By Jennifer_MP3891DL |

We stopped on our way between Denver and Cheyenne. Fun for kids as they have a pretend jail to play in. You can also pick up the typical travel guides. Employees are not very friendly or helpful. They did not have any recommendations on where to stay or activities to do, although this is the welcome center.

Great place to stop for insight

By Pam G |

This was not only awesome to walk through as a museum but was able to get informed exceptionally well. The lady helping us was very knowledgeable about the state and every where we were asking and even gave us a few other areas of interest that were not previously planned. Best Welcome center ever.

Fabulous Center!

By Vananna2017 |

By far one of the most amazing centers we have ever stopped at. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, lots of information available and it is a museum unto itself! Kids will love this place--they can go to jail with Butch Cassidy and escape by removing a stone piece from the wall and go down a slide. There is also a wooly mammoth skeleton, teepee, old time general store, covered wagon, and clean restrooms. Plan to stop here!

Impressive Welcome Center

By Breanna P |

Most welcome centers are very basic, but this one was a fun little stop for our family. Our kids loved the dinosaur display as well as the jail display. It was a really fun place to get out, stretch our legs, and spend 15-30 minutes!
