The Southernmost Point is a definite tourist "trap", but one not to be missed for a photo op!!! There is a line!

I would recommend arriving to this early in the morning (before 8 or 9) as the line gets long as the day progresses; while it’s definitely a tourist attraction it is still something unique to see (especially since it is free) as it’s an image seen all throughout Key West. I would definitely recommend seeing for family photo ops.

Not sure why we stopped here. It was nothing but a marker
It was interesting to see the Naval Station through holes in their fence :o)

We went in the morning and by the time we got there, the line for photos had about 100 people. We chose to do one from the side.

Nice for a quick photo stop. Bleak white concrete against blue ocean. No shade and not much to do. Only worth it if you are in the area.

Great spot, very busy and long lines for a photo. But a must stop and see attraction. Beautiful water views.

You can't help but want to take a photo but the lines are ridiculously long. We stood on top of a concrete wall and snapped a photo. But if you want to get up close, it's a wait. TIP: We walked northeast and found the Southernmost Point Bar in less than 2 minutes with another large buoy (no waiting).

It's a small symbol, but it's a popular one. There is almost always a line here to get a picture and everyone is so helpful and willing to take a picture for you. Enjoy!

It was wonderful but suffering! The city of Key West is too small for the amount of tourists visiting. There is no place to park and when you find it vacant, the price is absurd. We paid US42.00 for 3 hours to leave near the center, otherwise you will have to leave wellmm away.

A must do for visitors to Key West. Everyone wants to take a picture with the monument for the southernmost point in the continental U.S. But you can avoid the lines and just get a picture of the monument between people if you wish.

This was a fun diversion that made for a group photo for our family. We did have to stand in line for about 20 minutes, but we thought it was worth it to have our photo with this iconic landmark. There is a nice café across the road to cool off at after your time in line.

We were here October 1st. The original location is under construction, so the sign has been moved close by. The line was pretty short when we were there. It is just an iconic shot like the Las Vegas sign.

A definite must do when visiting Key West for the first time. Get a picture but be prepared to wait a few minutes in line. Our kids enjoyed the walk.

It is nice, but the line is very long to stand in front of it to take a photo. And this is in July which is off season. I would hate to see it in December.

People wait in a long line to take their picture by this thing, and I don't understand why. We passed it while on our way to see other more worthwhile sights.

You have to stop and snap a photo. No cost and you can skip the line if you don't mind others in your photo.

Always a long line to see the buoy, but you have to at least go and check it off the list! Try going at night and use a flash. No lines then.

We are staying in Marathon! So bring an hour away, we had to venture to this iconic spot! This is our first time visiting the keys. And it was worth it! The line was to about middle of street but moved quickly. People were friendly and took each others pictures. I say it’s worth waiting in line but many people just went by on the street and took picture with others around.

Yes It is a tourist trap but its an iconic spot and iconic photo to have. We had to wait in line for about 15 minutes, and there was no issue with different folks in line taking each others picture and moving the line along. The actual southernmost point of key west seems to be on the Taylor fort beach, but this is till a cool spot and shot.

In case you need a reminder of how far you have come, this stop will help. Usually a little busy depending on the time of day but it doesn't take long to get a turn for a photo. Prepare to get a little wet depending on the tides. Once I visited with a stop in Cuba next on the agenda and that keeps me more fond of this monument.

We tried at various times and it did consistently have a line…A fun place to stop and take a photo .. gets busy so go early!!!

There is a marker here and this special spot is notable as the most southern place in the continental United States. People stop and take photos. Simple marker.

Worth a stop while in Key West. A bit touristy...but if you are visiting...then you are a tourist! LOL. Avoid days when there are cruise ships in port...and if possible try to go earlier in the morning before the crowds. The line builds quickly.

Have to see. Can stand on the right side and still take pictures if you do not have time to stand in waiting line to get a picture and just as good.
Man selling coconut drinks yells at everyone parking so just ignore him.

A fun place to stop for a photo, but nothing much else to do here. There was a long line for a photo so we just took our picture from across the street. I guess this means we never were at the southernmost point in reality. Oops!

The must have photo opportunity from your time in Key West! Great little stop, especially earlier in the day when there’s no line.

This is a must see when you visit Key West. We come and take pictures each time we visit. A piece of Key West history

It's the photo-op at Key West. The lines are often very long, but they go relatively quickly. If you want your photo-op, by all means go! If you don't care, it's not worth the time.

Can't take a trip here without a photo here lol but after the first time it's kind of over ya know. But still, you need at least one photo here!

Iconic place to take “that” Key West photo. There is usually a line but it’s part of the experience. I would Uber to Duval and make an afternoon of it and stop here as one of the many things to do off Duval Street.

We went here around lunchtime and the queue wasn't too bad. I think other people had the better idea, as they sat on the wall near it and in between people getting their photo taken they were able to take a selfie with the buoy in the background.

Had to go and take a picture at the iconic southernmost point. Very busy place to make sure you have plenty of time.

There is very little parking in the area, streets are narrow and crowded; if you want your own photo you need to wait in the long lone, although it’s mostly shaded, but you almost have to stop by if you visit the area. You can easily skip the line if you are happy with a photo of you standing a bit away from the monument and have other people in the background. Glad we did it once, but don’t need to see it again.

People line up to take a pic. There was a gentleman that was there taking pics for everyone. I think he was just a local but was very funny.

Classic Key West activity. Line of probably 60 people round the clock to take photos, so takes about hour/hour and a half. Even passed by at 10:30 p.m. and there was still a line of about 20. Here for the photo.

Huge long line all hours of day for a pic in front of a huge long ugly black fence with the bouy. Stupid as all heck. What a waste

Got to take our picture at the southernmost point before and during Hurricane Ian with wave crashing above us. Great pictures and may have been on the weather channel!

Cool little photo op. We went pretty early in the morning around 8am and only had to wait for one couple ahead of us to take a picture. There was a local standing by taking pictures for a bunch of people which was super nice. Definitely stop if you have the time!

This attraction is not a predictable one. It seemed that there are usually more people waiting in line than not. We chose not to wait in line for the selfie, but to photograph it as best we could.

There is long line just for taking pictures. It is not worth waiting in line. If you go early or late after cruise ship is departing, maybe it is worth going there.

Of course it all our fault but becareful with the time you go on a sunny day. We were back lit by the sun so pictures didn't come out great

I always love a quirky tourist spot and this is great. You can stand at the most Southern part of the USA.
There was a little queue to get a photo opportunity but the line went down quickly and everyone in line helped each other out with photos.

There is usually a long queue to get your photo taken next to the marker.
One way to avoid the queue, is to stand on the low all next to it!

Pack your patience, this photo stop is busy. Usually long lines waiting to snap a picture. Marker has been freshly painted as it was vandalized so the colors are nice and vibrant.

If you go to Key West then you MUST stop by the Southernmost Point! It's a requirement! Nothing there other than what you see in the photos but you need to get YOUR photo as proof that you were there. Certain times of day a rather long line was seen waiting to get a photo. If you see a line just walk around a while and stop back later

A must-do when in KW. We stop by every time - not sure why. It never changes but we enjoy it. The wait time in line is usually short but the best time to go is early morning when no one is there and the lighting is good. It's annoying when people hang out or kids are playing in the background of your photos. People, be respectful!

We were spending the day on the Key West trolley, hopping on and off where we pleased. We stopped at the Southernmost Point for the obligatory photo and were shocked at how organized it was. I've been to a lot of these sort of 'roadside attraction' photo ops and usually it's a free for all and impossible to get a photo without random people in the way. That wasn't the case here at all. There was an organized line and people volunteered to take your photos for you. We waited in line maybe 10 minutes, but it went fast as we were chatting with the people around us. I was just so pleased with how naturally polite and respectful everyone was--no photoboming at all!

Great photo op. At this point it's only 90 miles to get to Cuba. Expect to stand in line if you want a photo. I decided to just take in the views and skip getting my photo taken.

The actual southernmost point is Ballast Key. This is basically a gimmicky tourist trap. The good thing is, it's free. Be prepared to wait in line if you want your picture taken right next to it. More conveniently you can take a picture from the street with the buoy in the background.

Just take a walk by after you're done touring the Hemingway house. The landmark bouy was larger than i expected, but we went at around 11am and the line was over a block long to take a picture. The point is just the bouy on cement with the ocean in the back and nothing else special, so i would recommend going very early or just taking a selfie with it from a distance.

Cool photo spot. Went on a rainy Sunday and there was still a long line for a photo. The water was also rough and crashing into the bulkhead and spraying water over the area. It’s still a must visit!

If you're in Key West, you should definitely stop by here for a photo of the southernmost point. And you should plan on waiting a few minutes, but it's an experience you'll remember.

Every once in a while, TripAdvisor gets it exactly right, and this is one of those cases: The Southernmost Point of the Continental US is worth exactly 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great, if not obligatory, photo op - just be prepared to stand in line for a few minutes. It's not a mind-blowing experience, but it's a fun and easy bucket list item to check off.

For such a big tourist destination, the actual photo op isnt that great. The neighborhood surrounding it is worth seeing, but the Point itself isnt that exciting. Plus, its really NOT the Southernmost Point of Key West. The Rocky Beach by Fort Zachary Taylor has far better views.

This iconic spot was a must in our stop in Key West. Mid morning there was a small ish queue of people, but it moved fairly quickly and in an orderly way. If you are visiting Hemingway house it’s only a few blocks south from there and a couple of blocks further onto Butterfly house.

Need to make sure you stop and touch the southern most point while here. A picture of this will commemorate the stop.

We had a chance to visit the Southernmost Point of the Continental USA, located in Key West, Florida. This iconic landmark is a popular tourist destination and holds significant geographical and cultural importance.
The most popular spot is the monument, represented by a large, brightly painted concrete buoy, installed in 1983 by the city of Key West. The buoy is painted in red, black, and yellow, with the words "Southernmost Point Continental U.S.A." and "90 Miles to Cuba" inscribed on it.
The buoy serves as a symbolic marker, as the actual southernmost point is a few yards away on private property, and another inaccessible point is located in a restricted area of the Naval Air Station Key West.
We arrived at the area around noon, and there were a lot of people lined up to take pictures with the buoy. It took around 20 minutes before we got a chance to take a picture with the famous monument. Mission completed!
There are great restaurants and cafes in the area, along with cool spots for photography. We highly recommend anyone visiting Key West to check it out.

Well, it's a thing. Long long lines of people trying to take a picture in the hot sun. We went back one evening and no one was there. It's just a photo opp

The first time we came to this landmark, it was close to sunset and for some reason, we and 2 other couples were the only ones there. We quickly got our selfie taken. The next time was a few days later, middle of the day, and the line of people waiting went for several blocks. So my advice is to drive/walk by and if the line's too long, come back later in the day. It's an easy walk from most places in the historic district.

If you are visiting Key West - the Southern Most point is a MUST. Take the trolley tour and they will drop you off at this location, otherwise if you drive you won't find parking. It FREE which is always a plus

This is so hyped, and we weren't interested in waiting in line for a picture of ourselves with it. We did take the requisite picture but of someone else and cropped it out. Done.

People were lined up for pictures and graciously offered to take pictures of each other! It was very windy, and we could feel the sea spray! Checked it off our bucket list!

Stopped here on our way out of Key West, we lucked out finding a parking spot, otherwise not many areas where you can park. A good number of people also there with the same idea as us. Enjoyed our visit.

It’s Free ! That’s about the only nice thing to say. The line of people waiting to get their insta pic was alarming. Nothing is worth that long of a wait. We just took the picture from across the street and enjoyed the rest of our time at Key West.

This has been on our bucket list for years! We finally did it by going on a cruise. It's a short walk from the cruise ship port.

The southernmost point of the United States is located at the end of South St. To get there, take the famous Duval St to the end (south direction) and turn on the South St. We stopped the car there in the corner, where there is paid public parking. Aproveite para fazer uma parada também no Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservation.
To take a picture at Southernmost Point we had to take a 20-minute queue. At least the people respect the queue...
It is an important landmark in the city. Visit, take your photos and leave for the next walk.
I recommend!

Went to this spot to take pictures with our family members. Had to wait in about a 15 minute line. People were being polite and respectful and took each others photos. Nice picture taking spot. No bathrooms around there. Parking difficult but possible. Would recommend.

Posing and taking photos at this location gives one the silent satisfaction of geographically achieving something. There was a long line up but the photo we took was a memorable one.
This reminded me of the Cape of Good Hope in Cape Town, South Africa where tourists take a photo at the southernmost point in South Africa.
Enjoyed drinking coconut water from the kernel that was being sold nearby. The coconut was pricey at $7.
Munir D.

You take a photo, it is fun, while you wait you will probably start talking to others, we met some nice people from LA and ended up taking each others photo.

The line was short in the morning and we checked this off our bucket list before heading to Fat Tuesday for a Pina Colada.

If you are in town, you may as well stop at this iconic spot. Go first thing in the morning or late in the day to avoid standing in a long line to take a photo. Alternatively, if you don't actually want to be in the photo, you can just walk up and snap a picture. If you go to the nature center where the butterflies are, you will be right around the corner from this spot.

If you want only (almost) yourself in the picture with this sculpture, then I saw around 30-40 people in line on 4th of July to take a picture with it. My friend and I did not care. We stood from an acceptable distance and took selfies with this and that picture is good enough. It's your pick.

It’s a must picture destination when visiting Key West. It gets crowded at times. We found getting there early was the best.

What no one tells you is you better get here early. The line is crazy long. We arrived in line around 9am and it was already getting long pretty quick. Although the picture with the land mark was worth our wait some may not think so. We waited about 20 minutes but noticed that the line had doubled since we got there. My advice to othered get there as early as you can.

Too long of a line to get a picture taken in front of it. Tip, it’d wait until the cruise ship leaves to attempt seeing this landmark.

Who goes to Key West and doesn’t bet their photo with this staple? We waited in line, all part of our day riding bikes around Key West.

Visiting the Southernmost Point in Key West is an absolute must for any traveler. Standing at this iconic spot, with the colorful buoy and endless ocean as my backdrop, was an experience beyond compare.

We visited this site the 2nd Thursday of December. We walked to this site from the Hemingway House on Simonton Street which only took about 10 minutes. We were fortunate that there were only about 8- 10 people in front of us, but the line moves quickly as everyone was asking the people behind them in line to take their photo. There's not much to see except the marker and just get your photo taken, thus you will likely spend more time in line than actually getting your photo taken and getting a look at the sign. It will be one of the quickest tourist destinations you will ever visit. We were there about 11 am, but in the short time we were there, the line doubled in length. We were done in about 15 minutes.

You can't visit certain places without doing iconic things. Snapping a pic here is a must. People wait in line, help each other take pics. The line goes super fast. Earlier in the day the better. You just have to go if you are in Key West!

Even though the long line might make you reconsider finding parking and waiting, don't, it's totally worth it. The line moves fast and it's a great pic!

Sure, it's worth visiting one of the most iconic spots on the island. We went on a Friday night in July, around 8 pm, a bit overcast, and still had to wait in a short line, although probably less than 10 minutes. People are friendly - you take their photos, they'll take yours.

It was great, wish I had the chance to get my bike next to it,,to many people waiting.. It was a beautiful day of riding.

Get your picture taken at mile marker 0; no trip would be complete without a souvenir photo at this landmark!

If you want to wait 15 min just to take a picture then you will enjoy stopping here. We just snuck up and got a picture from the side and that was just as good!

It is nice to see the Southernmost Point but at the same time be prepared to wait to get your picture taken. If it's hot be sure to take something to drink with you but it's the spot that everyone wants to have their picture taken with no matter where they are from, so there is going to be a line. Be cool and just wait your turn.

I just took a picture from the trolley. There was a line to take pictures. I wonder if on a clear day can you see Cuba.

There is generally a line that forms to get pictures taken. People are friendly and will take your picture. Wait was about 10 minutes around noon.

Fun, we got lucky and didn’t have much of a line. We took the picture for the family in front of us and the people behind us also. Whom also took our photo.

This was our visit after the landmark was repaired following HURRICANE Irma and is beautiful. This is a must do while in the keys!

Always wanted to do a picture here. Waited in line, not to long, and asked if we could take a picture for the couple behind us. They did the same for us...its a really fun experience, and right there by the beach

Yeah - it's the touristy thing to do, BUT, even in a queue line, people were patient and had no problem taking pix of others to get the whole family in! People's vibe the day we were there was cool and helpful to each other - so nice post- Covid.
Just do it.

Waste of time. Its a concrete pilar painted different colors and it isn’t even the correct most southern point. Cannot believe people stand in line to take a picture. Ridiculous

If you are collecting Monopoly Corners, then go for it, otherwise take a pic on the zoom by and skip the long line! It’s never without a line but there is a nice frozen drink station a few blocks away if you’re willing!

Get here early if you don't want to wait in line to get a picture. Certainly an iconic part of Key West.

Very cool landmark located in Keywest showing the most southern point in the United States. Not too far away from Cuba. Recommended to go see this free attraction.

Line moves fast because there are a lot of groups. Pay to park in the Butterfly Conservatory lot and it’s not a long walk. When you’re taking your picture remember you are the only people in the U.S. at the southernmost land point :)

Get to the point early for beautiful photos with the rising sun. Lines are also shorter in the morning. Afterward be sure to walk to the end of the pier for lovely photos.

We went at 10 am and there was a long line in the heat of people waiting to take selfies. It was much better to go at 7am right after sunrise.

It's never truly a trip to Key West without stopping by to take a quick pic at the Southernmost Point. Go early morning or after sunset for less of a crowd.

Easy little photo opportunity. There's nothing particularly compelling about the monument itself, but it is pretty cool to stand at the end of the "continental United States." It's totally worth the 5 minutes you might have to wait in line. Be sure to check out the statue of Bishop Albert Kee & the Cable Hut while you're there. Even with those 2 additional things, this entire experience can be completed in less than 10 minutes.

A very long wait for a very quick picture, but you've got to do it because you're there. There's some shade under trees along the sidewalk, but it can get hot!

Showed up one nice morning and the line was long, real long. But it was early in the day (about 10:30am) and the line moved real quick. I would say we moved through the line within 15-20min. We were able to get good pictures with the help of friendly people there would be happy to take your picture rather than trying to take a selfie. Be sure to ask the person in front of you, or behind you to take your picture and don't worry if the line is long, It moves quickly .

There was a fresh coat of paint on the marker. The lines can get long, Get there early in the morning or late in the evening.

It is what it is. You wait in line to take your picture at the southernmost point of the US (or have a gracious person in line behind you take it) and that is all. A fun, and memorable experience!

It can be the end point of a walk in the characteristic Key West. Otherwise, it is a block of colored concrete that resembles the southernmost point of the continental United States just 90 miles from Cuba.

Very busy and we stood in line for photos. Everyone was patient and courteous, but not worth the wait.

Not sure what to say….after all, it’s just a large colorful buoy at the literal end of the road, BUT…it’s one of those iconic experiences you want to have when in Key West! There was an orderly line of tourists waiting to take photos. The line moved quickly and people were helpful to take each other’s pics so each whole group could be included. The whole experience took less than 15 minutes, and as a photo lover, it was worth it to me to know that I have this “famous” shot of our time in Key West.

I had never been to Key West before, nor had I ever taken a solo trip. Loved both. First day I took the Hop On/Hop Off bus to get the lay of the land and decide what I wanted to see and do the rest of my time there. It was a bit pricey, but worth it just for that purpose. That worked out great. The rest of the time I either walked or took the Duval Loop bus (free) every place I wanted to go. Key West was a bit more expensive than I had planned for, so I reduced the amount of times I ate out and spent less on souvenirs and entry fees for sights. People and chicken watching is a wonderful pass time. Weather was good, but not what I would call warm, so I did not spend any time at the beach, which was a disappointment. Spent the evenings in relaxing from the full days. I would definitely go again. My favs were the Hemingway House, the Butterfly Conservatory, the Southernmost Point, a fish pedicure, visiting with people in restaurants, Kermit's Key Lime Pie, Mattheesen's Ice Cream, Conch Republic's Blackberry mojito and relaxing around the pool at Westwinds Inn.

Waiting in line at midday heat for a picture does not make sense, I rather just take a pic in the net and photoshop myself in

The stone itself is nothing special. But it's definitely worth a souvenir photo. A queue formed and you had to wait about 15 - 20 minutes until it was your turn, but you could take a decent photo in peace and quiet without any people getting in the way.

I was surprised where is is located and how many people stood in long lines to get there picture taken. It’s ok
We went back at night- no lines.

This was awesome, a long line to wait, but worth it. A definite place to visit here when in Key West!

You're in Key West. Probably heading to Duval anyway. Go get the picture then head to Hank's for a beer and a fish taco from Garbo's food truck in the back.

We were at the butterfly garden and wandered down to the water and saw the marker with a line of about 100 people who are selfie-obsessed. There are some really beautiful sights, lots of history, and great experiences all around Key West.
This isn't one of them.

There are long lines all day long to get your picture in front of this landmark. I woke up before sunrise to get there and take a selfie without having to wait on line.

It had to be done - join the queue to take a pic by the famous landmark. Queues were longer mid morning so we returned mid afternoon and only had to wait about 10 minutes. We took another families pics and they took ours.
People were very orderly and waited patiently which was nice.

Key West is a beautiful town/city. Make sure you visit Mallory square for the sunset and Sloppy Joe's for a stiff drink. The bouy photo op can be a long wait so be prepared and patient.

No issues with lines etc. first thing Sunday morning. Got the iconic picture with no problem, though some fencing to the right is annoying. And I wish there was better street sanitation overnight around the area, given the number of beer bottles just left around.

Great place to watch the Sunset and enjoy the Good Life. At least once, each Vacation to key West we will visit here to watch a Sunset and be happy.

Pick your moment, if you want the photo op with the buoy; the line can be long. It is a long, hot walk from Old Town - easy enough if fit, but a trial for the very young. Nothing too amazing in the moment, but, like all real estate location is everything!

This is the ultimate Photo Op for Key West. Get there early to avoid the crowds and long photo shoots. It is definitely something you want to do for the picture.

you cannot go without seeing it. it is the place where anyone can turn their life around. i biked by it at least 3 times a day.

Nice spot if you want a picture try and go early as it gets very busy and usually a line for a picture. Lots of iguanas on the rocks nearby and also saw a shark.

Fun little stop to brag you were at "the southernmost tip" of the contiguous United States. Parking is a premium, but if you don't mind walking, we parked about 1/2 mile away on the street. We visited Monday 1/31 approximately 11:30 a.m. There was a line of about 15 people which took about 20 minutes and protocol was asking people behind you for courtesy of taking photo with your device of course. We then walked to the larger of the public beach areas and walked down the huge fishing pier. On our way we found mama hen and 5 chicks that were maybe a day old. Walking back to our vehicle was just then blocks away - bonus was picking up coconuts that had fallen from the trees. One resident came out and even encouraged us to take more and welcomed us to Key West. In addition to this point, we also went to MM 0 which is about a mile away near the post office.

Beautiful view. Clean area. Took a few pictures. Nice restaurants near by. We rode bicycles to site see. Came at sunrise.

A fun stop IF you have the time. Not really worth a special trip unless you have plenty of time to stand in line for a 30-second snapshot.

I can't imagine how long the line would be during summer or more prime time. We got here right around sunset on a Sunday and there were about 50 people but the line moved quickly and it was totally worth it. Everyone was in fun vacation mode so it was fun chatting with others in line. You gotta do it!

It is the southernmost point of the American continent and if you have reached there you absolutely must immortalize the moment.
It is a big red marker which tells us that Cuba is just opposite, less than 100 miles away.

A very interesting facet of Key West, the 90 miles to Cuba marker is something everyone should see. Great for a photo.

The line can be really long to wait for your turn for a pic, but there are plenty of bars where you can get a drink while you are waiting. Wouldn't make a special trip to do it again, but it's fun to say you've been there!

My wife and I visited the SMP on 11/14/2022. We went early (around 9am) to get ahead of any crowd. There was no one waiting and someone standing nearby offered to take our obligatory picture with the marker. We walked here from our hotel, so parking was not an issue. There is not much to say about it and there is not much else around the marker to do or see, but it is worth doing once in your life to say you're done it. It is an excellent experience. Once.

It was our last day and I wanted a quick trip to this place. It was about 11 am and it was so crowded! There was this huge line of people waiting to take a picture. There was a car in front of us that let the people out to take a quick pic. I actually took 2 pictures from the car. It was already so hot, I didn’t feel like waiting. But other than that it’s nothing special.

Parking is sometimes a pain-go early there is ALWAYS A LINE, although it moves. You end up taking pictures for the people in line around you and vice versa. It is what it is-just a spot to take the iconic picture. People respect and wait and you take your picture and move on. It's kind of at the end of an "L" so don't expect to "hop out" and take a picture-there will definitely be people there.

The line was long, but it went quickly, and it gave us time to meet other folks from different parts of the US. I will suggest that a vendor should be in the area to sell water, fans and such well waiting in line.

When you are in Key West you have to visit the southernmost place and of course take a photo here. There is almost always a line but if goes pretty fast.

Stood in line forever ! But ,we got to see a cruise ship pass by the buoy, so that was pretty cool to see.

You know you'll want to take a picture here and you might have to wait a bit but the good news is that people are generally respectful of each other and willing to assist you to get the perfect shot.

Super long line. Be prepared and bring a bottle of water! There was about an hour of wait for a picture! Long lines! Lots of people!

We waited about 30 minutes under beautiful palm trees. It was well organized. It should be missed on your trip to Key West.

Finally got to see this in person! Friendly people in line. Watch out waves coming over the break wall - people did get wet:)

It is as advertised. It is the end of the road so to speak and this is the marker for it. It is nothing special. Everyone comes for a picture and thats that. No other attractions.

Have a felling this was put up as an attraction. It's not really even the most Soutern point in the contential, that is really privately owned, but it's the most soutern point in the US open to the public. But it's iconic. You need to wait in line to get a picture by it but at least it's free. Yea I got a picture but from further away.

Waste of time to wait in line just for a 10 second pic. COVID was more fun at least it gave me something out of it.

plan on waiting in line line here for a half an hour. The shame of this is the chance to stand in line for a picture of a marker to a place that Americans can not legally go to under our current administration.

lines were way too long for a picture so we drove by but always captured some tourists in the picture or blocking the view while driving by.

Yes, this marks the southernmost part of the United States. And,....?
There seems to be people taking photographs here all the time. We visited , waited for people to move enough to snap a quick picture. And then,... nothing.
I'm not sure why I even went.

It was fun to be able to say we stood at the end of the US! Sunnt day and friendly people helped with photos.

Always visit when in town. Love watching the crowds. Great time walking around the town and seeing all the sights. Must do for everyone!

Really neat area, worth a quick photo to say you have been there. We literally went around the crowd and just snapped selfies….

So interesting. A sight that I recommend everyone see. 90 miles to Cuba....who would think it took seven decades to get there?

On our visit to key West, we were told to go to the Southern Most point of the continental United States. Well, we did it! We stopped by there recently and took that iconic picture of the family right upside the famous buoy of Key west.

This is a must if you are a first time visitor or one that had nor been here for awhile (40 years). Brought my daughter here to share memories and good times.

Beautiful part of the island and although we had to wait for our photo op, once there the ocean background was gorgeous!!

Be prepared to wait in line for your photo. That’s pretty much all this is - a neat photo op. We probably waited about twenty minutes for our photo but hey, it’s the tourist thing to do!

Who doesn’t want a photo proving you were here? Go early to avoid the long line. We got there at 8:30 & there was only two other couples there. An hour later when we biked by the line was already 20 people deep. Don’t be surprised by how underwhelming the setting is. It’s all about the photo.

We recently visited Key West and stayed at the Casa Marina Resort, so had about a 10 minute walk to the Southernmost Point. Of course, being so close, we just HAD to get the touristy photo. Once we got to the point around 10am, there was a line about 30 yards long though it moved somewhat quickly. The people in line with you will take your photo and you should be prepared to take a photo for someone else. Also, if you are pressed for time, people will take selfies outside of the line with the buoy in the background and then leave.

The line moves really quick, and everyone is willing to help the next person get a great pic. Cool spot to visit and to take a picture. Checked this one off our bucket list. Key West is FUN!

It was fun being with folks from around the world who enjoyed being photographed and filmed here. Everyone is happy to take each others pictures, and people back home are impressed!

The line to take a photo with the monument was very very long. We spent more time looking at the military installation which is actually a good few hundred feet farther south than this place. There is another pier a few blocks east that is also farther south, Higgs Pier. For those unwilling to pay for parking but willing to walk, there is free street parking a few blocks away. Nice neighborhoods to walk through.

Good experience in Key West atmosphere and food, bad hotel. It ruined the experience. They were remolding and did not tell us. Noise in the rooms started between 7:30 - 9:00. It’a much needed upgrade but we would not of stayed if we would have know it. The water was cut off to the whole building one night without notifying us or many other gust. We had issues with the plumbing in shower the 1st night also. Poor customer service at best. They gave us a free breakfast. Whoopi. Nice swimming pool, best part of the Hotel .

The line to get a picture taken here was really long during the day. We went back around 730 the next morning and walked right up to it with no one else around.

We passed by the marker on our train tour. Not sure why anyone
would want to take a picture of it since there is more land behind it and nearer to the water....

first, very hard to find a space to park your car, than you have to wait the line to take pictures, plus the waves did not help ,water was everywhere, also it was Sunday

Long line but it’s just about waiting for your picture at a historic site so I recommend visiting. Youll probably want to dedicate an hour for waiting and picture taking

Nothing much more than the buoy good photo opportunity depending on time and queue was literally a 10 min stop - glad we saw it though

Too busy.
Traffic too congested.
Waiting line too long.
Too hot to stand in the sun.
Need to shut down street to traffic and have it walking only.
Need more parking and trolley/buses/bikes for tourists.

Sure, it's a nice photo op, but we had to wait about 20 minutes in a line to get that photo. It's cool enough though.

Really Cool I enjoyed this and the people around me took my camera and took pictures of me, for me. Great Fun.

There was small line in front of the Southernmost Point but it was a must take some photos. Yes, it was a tourist "trap" but we wanted to see...

Quick little sight see & photo op stop. Interesting to stand here and read a bit of the history of the first international telegram to Cuba.
Paid street parking and line was 5-10 minutes for us to take photos. Would recommend.

I have seen this for years whenever they are doing stories on hurricanes and things coming through the keys. You see waves coming up over this point and it looks terrible. Well the wind was not all that strong when we visited and waves were coming up over this spot just like in the high weather events.
Outside of that it was cool to stand here, get a picture, and look out knowing Cuba was only 90 miles away.

On our drive towards Fort Zachery Taylor, we passed by this tourist spot. We lined up and took our picture with the ionic sign! The only sad complaint I have is the line, if you’re impatient you might wanna come here later! Though it’s a nice spot next to the beach, it locks perfect in the sunset 🌅

This was cool to see in theory. There were just sooooo many people trying to get a picture in the same spot that you had to get in like to take your own picture. Crazy. We took a picture from further away and it obviously had the crowd of people gathered all around. You probably have to go super early in the morning or something to get around the crowd. Not worth it to me but fun in theory.

This was exactly as depicted except for the huge line to take a picture. Must get there early in order to get a private picture!

People waiting in line for a picture with it. Just take one from afar and keep walking. Betsy the Lobster is better

There was a line to take pictures with it but it moved pretty fast! As long as you are considerate of others and not hand around too long, it flows pretty good!

There's always a lot going on at Southernmost Point. Whether you want to spend a lot of time taking a picture there, you have to know for yourself. In Key West, there are truly enough beautiful places to take a picture. Therefore, it was enough for us to ride our bikes past there.

Ok, so there was a HUGE long line here. I really hadn't expected that because the last time I visited I was able to just walk right up. We waited in line for 45 minutes to get a picture. Now, you can just stand nearby and get a picture with others in the background, but if you want to be touching the marker, you have to wait in line. Folks were respectful of others and it was worth it to us - great weather and an hour to kill.

Always a beautiful landmark to visit. With it being so popular, just make sure you scout out the line, it does get quite long.

Always crowded so go early in the morning. If you are in the area you must stop here and get a picture at the Southern most point!

Gotta love these “extreme” type of experiences. I was happy to wait in the not-too-long line (maybe waited 15-20 minutes) to get our turn to take our picture at the marker. Now I can brag i have been to the most southern spot in the continental US. One of those Key West experiences worth having at least once!

It's just a Bouy. There is nothing there but that. The long lines aren't worth it. I think there are other places that are more significant that this one/

This is exactly as presented, a painted buoy marker at the southernmost point of the United States. Apparently, Cuba is 90 miles across the Atlantic Ocean; of course, you cannot see it! This is a very popular tourist site, and unless you get there during off hours, you will be waiting in a long line to pose for a picture! Or settle for a photo with other people in it! Of course, it’s a must see in Key West!

This is my first time visiting...little line, little wait - we got SO lucky this week with not too many tourists!! Weather is not too bad, either.

Went on a weekday in the middle of the afternoon and there was a line, but not too long of a wait. Walked by it again during the evening and there was a line then also. Chances are there's always a line to get a photo

This was a "day trip' from Miami, and while it was a long drive - it was worth the trip! Since we went in August, it was pretty crowded, but again, worth the trip! Do yourself a favor and stop at the little places all along the way to the absolute point! Once you are there, stroll along the streets, enjoy the ambiance, purchase a piece of artwork (good luck sticking to just one piece) and enjoy all of the food and drink! The key lime pie is as good as they say, however make sure you get to the Southernmost Point Bar and have an All The Way Lemonade...you won't regret it!!

So apparently this isn't the southernmost point. The actual point is on a naval base and you can't go to it. But wait in line, take a pic, say you been there. No need to do it more than once in a lifetime. It's hot, not a lot of shade but we got an Uber in a minute to bring us the 2 miles north to the seaport.

If you are in Key West then you have to stop and take your picture at this landmark. This is just off Duval Street and should be on your list of things to see!

Come and take a quick picture. We had a short line to wait through. Nearby street parking. Only need 5 minutes not much else in that immediate area.

Didn't have to wait very long (10 minutes). Got the photo, took other's pics. Watched pelicans dive into the water. Pretty cool.

It was cool going there at sunrise. Even at that hour there were people there. Got to get some good pics.

A must see if in the keys! On the north end of Duval Street a short walk from downtown. Be ready to stand in line to wait for a picture!!!

We finally got around to doing this on our last day. We got down there pretty early, so there wasn’t a long wait. But the line can be extremely long, so my best advice is to go early. I definitely recommend doing this. Were you ever at Key West if you don’t have this picture for proof?

We visited mid-week. In the morning the line was blocks long. We went back around 6-6:30 PM and it was better. Good photo op.

Don't know what to say. You go have your picture next to it and that's it. very crowded. Parking is crowded also.

It’s a typical tourist destination, but because it’s the south most point of the United States, it should be visited. If you’re on a cruise ship, get off the boat and hightail it to the buoy because there’s a line we went about seven or eight in the morning, and there was no line at all. There’s also a neat building right next to it that protected the underwater telegraph cable from Key West to Havana.

This is just a marker at the Southernmost Point of the continental US and is 90 miles from Cuba. Go early as the line gets long in the afternoon. We were here on a cruise stop and walked there first thing off the ship and only waited about a minute. People in line are great about taking your picture and you take theirs. It was fun to get the picture.

Line this time of year and time. Was not bad around noon. Took like 10 minutes to get to it and most couples were willing to take your pic if you took there’s. Nice attraction to see.

I suggest you visit in the early morning or near sunset.. it’s cooler & line is shorter! Remember…
It’s on 90 miles to Cuba and the Chinese listening posts 😱!!

A local iconic landmark recognized everywhere and fun to be able to say you have visited. Will want to at least drive by it if you are there.

Iconic and fun photo stop with great views of the water and a lively atmosphere. It’s a must-see landmark in Key West, though it can get crowded and feels more like a quick stop than a destination. Still worth visiting for the experience and the photo.

We got to check this out and it seem very busy with tourist a must see and get your picture taking. The longs don't last long as we waited to get our picture taking.

The area is nice and safe to walk around. The landmark is cute and the views of the water are worth the visit. Nice place to go.

Great photo ops at the southern most point in the United States just across the water from Cuba. Suveniers can be found all arounf Key West of this spot.

If you are there you have to stop. Parking is hard and usually a line, but if you are there its worth the stop one time to see it.

It’s a thing you just have to go to when coming to key west even if you think it’s lame or pointless. Get the photo, it will only take a minute if you go early. We were there at 8am and we waited in line for like 3 other groups to take our photo. Took a total of 5 minutes.
Don’t go there at 11am and expect it to not be crowded. it will be! Just get up at a reasonable time and go there. It’ll be fast.
I highly suggest downloading an app like Snapchat that shows the busy times at locations and when their not crowded and when they are. It’s a lifesaver.

Not much to say about this - its just THE photo to get while you're in Key West. Check online for the cruise ship schedule. If a boat is scheduled to be in port, you will want to hit this spot early to avoid standing in a long line.

We stopped by on a Tuesday night after sunset. There was no line at this time. There was also construction trucks and metal fences around the buoy which is why we gave it a lower score.

Yes, it is very much a tourist thing to do, but we figured we were there, so why not. The line was not that long and it was late morning. We waited maybe 15 mins to get our picture taken. The people in line were friendly and we enjoyed marking this off our travel bucket list.

This is one of those sights that you just have to do...because you can and it's easy. Go during off hours though, I hear the line can be pretty long.

Great to see, but there was a long line with an actual photographer so we had to take a picture with it in the background.

We had to wait in a line for about 15 mins to get our picture taken at the monument. It was worth the wait but I wouldn’t wait much longer than that.

There was a huge queue to line up to have your picture taken but we just waited until one couple left and another were about to walk up to it and took a picture of the post on its own. Worth a walk

Ok ~ so it's a colorful Buoy and just a photo opp; but that why you have to go. We went at night the first day we got there no line ~ people were friendly and offered to take picture for people great experience and even got wet with the high waters.
Now during the day we decided to see if we could get day time pictures .....FORGET IT! The line was down the block it was crazy how long people would stand in line to get the perfect picture ~ but again you kind of have to do it while there ~~~~ again biggest TIP: go at night!

If you are going to make that drive down from Miami, why would you NOT stop at the Southernmost Point for a mandatory selfie? I love that people will actually willingly and politely stand in line so that each group can take their own selfie at the marker. Makes me believe in humanity to see random acts of kindness such as that! I guarantee this picture will hang on your fridge for years to come!

Have to stop here and get your picture taken if you are in Key West, just go early in the morning. We did this first thing when we got to Key West before 9 a.m. and we only had to wait like 5 minutes or less.

Everybody needs to go to the Southernmost point! You are literally closer to Cuba than a Walmart! Check it out.

Not a lot to see except for the marker itself. W3 had about a 15 minute wait for our turn to take a picture. Not everyone understands the waiting line, but it’s Key West. No worries ‘ mon

Wonderful road and island and fun with many bars busy nightlife
The sea of a vibrant blue good food with assesive price

Super fun photo op but we did have to wait in a line for about 20 minutes to get a few photos. Nice area to walk around.

A must see when visiting the Keys. It is a quick visit, snap your photos. You’d mostly likely spend most of your time waiting in line to grab that pic. We came right before sunset and there were only a couple of people there to our surprise. The buoy looked freshly painted as I know it takes a lot of hits from strong waves. I think it is a unique experience worth visiting. Parking is on the street for this.

It’s always a great feeling to be so close to our believes Cuba. After dinner at Moondog, we walked off our calories to this attraction. After making a short line, we got our picture.

This kind of stop is always fun, but many people must agree because it was crowded here. Everyone just lined up, got their quick photos, and moved on. So it really did not take long. If you ride the on and off trolley, this is one of their stops. Of course I’d recommend this! Great photo op!

Seems to be for each and everyone a must have picture spot because the place is crowded. There is sometimes a long queue if you want have a picture with yourself on it and the location itself is nothing special. It is placed in between a couple of buildings and the photo looks only great if you take it from a certain angle. On the bright side, it’s free of charge and it’s close by other attractions, so it’s not a detour going there

The line moved more quickly than I thought. Bonus—people were nice to each other and took pictures for each other so things went smoothly.

No trip to Key West would be complete without seeing the Southernmost Point. We were surprised to see a line to take pictures, so be prepared.

The early bird catches the southernmost worm - if you don't want to wait in line for a long time or if you want a photo that doesn't have a ton of strangers in the background, get up at sunrise and walk right up to the buoy with no one in your way. You can also take a walk to see the sun come up on the pier.

I have been here both times I have visited Key West. It is OK , line is long....better ways to spend your time! There are some really good vendors around who are selling smoothies, for adults and kids, in pineapples---that's fun!

Got there Wednesday evening and did not have to wait long before we were next in line to get our picture taken.

I have been to the northern most point of the USA in Barrow, Alaska. Taking a picture at the southern most point (bar Hawaii) was essential for me. The line is long unless you visit early morning but it moves very quickly. Lots of tourists and lots of fun meeting people in line. Everyone was taking other's phones and taking pics of them when requested to do so.

I wanted to be at this point and finally did this . It’s a crowded place with lots of tourist . Just park and walk .

We didn't wait in the long line to get our pictures taken here but we did snap a couple of photos as we were passing through. Maybe if you go early in the day, the crowds won't be as prevalent.

It’s one of the things you must do and pictures you must get when in Key West. We first went by it in the afternoon and there was a very long queue for pics. We came back early the following morning and no queue

There was a very long line for selfies and limited street parking but there's only one southern most point in the US. It is definitely worth a stop if you are on Key West. And it's free.

theres always a line but its a cool spot for a photo and worth standing in the sun :) we drove from MN (home of the northernmost point in the contiguous 48 states - the Northwest Angle) so seeing the southernmost point was pretty cool geography lesson for our kids

We drove over to see the small monument. There was a long line of people waiting to take group photos. We just stayed a short while to take it all in and take a snap.

It was cool to be able to add this location to our list of places we have been! There was a super long line so we didn’t bother with a photo. Easy walk from downtown.

Going there early, like before 730am, you have the best views without harsh light in your eyes for taking photos. There are also no wait times and hardly anyone around, so you can actually enjoy the views and get some great photos with this icon!

It is an iconic spot in the continental United States. And everything around it also boasts of being the Southernmost spot - pretty funny. It is easy to get to on the free Duval Street Loop bus. Depending on the time of day, you may have to wait a bit but the view is gorgeous.
Please note, the Southernmost spot of the entire United States is located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Even more picturesque.

This is definitely a tourist trap. But come on, you can't come to Key West without stopping to take a beautiful picture at the Southernmost Point. We waited for 40 minutes to take a 2-minute picture. But hey, I'm not complaining. I like the fact that there is shade from the beautiful palm trees. And they have several vendors that provide cool beverages of your choice within walking distance.

This was definitely just a silly touristy thing to do while we were there but it was also kind of cool. It also showed a nice side of tourists. There was a queue to go up and take a picture but it moved quickly (we took about ten minutes) and instead of people being self absorbed everyone just teamed up together to take each group’s photos. It was nice

An iconic location that requires a stop and photo. But very busy with a 10 to 15 sidewalk queuing to get a 30 second shot. Tourist volume, background fencing and seaweed smell are reasons for just a quick stop.

It’s one of those iconic places in Key West… not sure what folks are expecting that would result in a low rating. It is an obligatory photo stop while in Key West, especially if it’s your first time in the Keys. Go early in the morning or in the evening to avoid the long line that will assemble during the peak of the day.

Have to stop here even just a quick photo to say you did. Fun and it is the southern most point. Have fun with this stop. Easy walk from parking.

This is nothing more than a tourist attraction but well hyped up by whomever decided to install it. It is not even the true southernmost point. The line is somewhat long but it does move. People waiting in line are generous to each other, with one group helping other groups take pictures... the spirit of Key West in many ways.
A must visit... yes, and no.

Cool site to see. Plan to stand in line and wait to take a picture. No place close to park so I suggest a shuttle drop off somewhere in the district and plan to walk.

Another must do if you are in Key West, but I'd recommend going in the morning when there is fewer folks. In the afternoon the line can be down the block trying to get their photo. I went at 0800 am and there were just two other couples and we had great parking!

So easy to do, and since you are there you have no excuse not too. There is a little door to the left of the monument which was the original terminal for the underwater telegraph cable to Havana Cuba - how cool is that?

we had 10 of us from NY schools, Only had to wait 15 or 20 minutes.Got parking right outside and walked to duval street

I guess this is a "must do" for a photo on a visit to Key West. Otherwise, not much to it, or around it other than the end of Duval Street and the Southernmost Cafe.

Came at about 8:30, parked one min walk away for 2.50/half hr. Got our pics, walked towards duval. Couple coffee options, a nice pier and small beach. Couple good breaky choices nearby.
Checked off south point US and Hawaii!!

A "have to do" when visiting Key West. Our hotel was nearby on Duval Street so it was a short walk. The buoy is located on a corner so there was very little parking available. Each time we passed by there was a line for photos. We stopped by our first day in Key West which was on a Tuesday early afternoon and the line was not that long. We probably waited about fifteen minutes for our turn to pose. There are so many people available to take your photos that the stop was short and sweet. Everyone was considerate , polite and friendly. My recommendations is to walk or have someone drop you off. The tolley tours drive by the buoy also. Scratch that off the list.

We were there just a few days after vandals set it on fire--it had already been repaired! Long lines. Beautiful views. Photo opportunity.

Earlier the better else you wait in line. You’re there to get a picture but line does move fairly fast. If you don’t want to wait you can get a picture from a different direction but won get the wording in the picture

The Southernmost Point buoy is a symbol of its geographical status as the southern end of the continental US. It replaced an often damaged and stolen wooden sign. The structure is actually made of concrete. Most days, there may be a short line of tourists who want that photo.

I am not sure why Google says this is temporarily closed. I was there yesterday and it definitely isn't. The Southernmost Point Buoy in Key West is an anchored concrete buoy apparently marking the southernmost point in the continental United States. A photograph opportunity! There was a long line to take a photograph alongside the buoy. I was not about to stand it in. I just took a photograph from afar.

Walked by this while we took a self guided tour. Lots of people in line to get pictures with it, so I just took a far away pic

There was a long line of tourists waiting to get their picture taken in front of the buoy. No parking close by - so I just jumped out and my husband sent around the block.

Go early! We got there at 8:45 am and there was no line at all. It's a nice place to take a photo but that's about it

50 minute wait from the halfway point of Duval Street and yes we waited to get and wait for it, that PIC! Be careful, people trying to get in front while you are not watching.

Crowded, touristy… but you have to get the picture, right? The line moves fairly quickly and once you’ve done it you don’t need to return on subsequent visits to Key West… but you should go get the picture.

The lines here get long, but we went right around sunset and only waited about 5 minutes! Fantastic photo opportunity! You should definitely stop at the southernmost point bar either before or after!

Great photo spot! And stop by the Southernmost bar right on the corner from this and get the Key West Colada. The taco truck there had the best tacos I've ever had too!

We visit this Southern Most Point Bouy every time we are in Key West. While not an exciting attraction it is the Signifigance of what it Represents.

We wanted to see the Southern Most Point in Key West, FL so we drove down from Key Largo for a day trip. A lot of what we viewed and experienced has already been written about by other Tripadvisor members so I’m going to try to stick to our personal adventures and photos to possibly add something new. On the afternoon that we visited the Southern Most Point Buoy there were only about 15 people in line for a photo. “What are the chances of that…good timing?” After that, we toured the city and drove down Duval Street. It was lively with many other tourists. There may have been a little excitement on Duval Street as a bicycle police officer passed between cars in front of us…crossing traffic to get to the opposite side. We also stopped along the Jimmy Buffet Memorial Hwy shoreline and strolled a bit to take in the sights as well as greeted some very friendly local bicyclers. It was all good fun and now with this checked off our “bucket list” we’re off back to Miami.

Long line while we were there but moved quick enough with shade and drinks along the way. Some people skip the line and take pictures from the street (wait your turn IMO) but fun to check it out.

Nice city, I went on a cruise and everything was ok. I believe it is worth staying at least one night there. The main place for the photo was very crowded and we couldn't take it, but I believe it was due to the arrival of the cruise

A line just to have your pics taken in front of it....there's nothing else there.....but we're tourists...:-)

It’s a neat piece of geography/history but I wasn’t about to stand in line for 45 minutes just to have my photo taken with it.

We decided to drive from Ft Lauderdale to Key West. It was about a 3 1/2 hour trip. There and back.
We drove around a bit , but we finally found it. A nice picture for your scrap book , however a definite tourist trap .
There were so many visitors that you have to stand in line to take it.
Parking is very expensive. We found out everywhere on Key West.
Definite tourist thing to do. There is a beach close by but they were clearing the massive amount of seaweed.

We came here for the obligatory picture. While in line we got to meet some interesting people and swapped photo opportunities. This is touristy, but a must do in my opinion just to see it and interact with the other people there.

When you come to Key West this is a place you have to visit and get a picture. We happened to visit on our last day before leaving to go back to Miami. We were at the buoy before 8:00 for two reason: 1) you can go right up and get a picture without a line and 2) you can get a close parking space before they start charging at 8:00 AM. In addition, the sunlight is better in the morning than the afternoon for pictures. Anyways it is easy for a place you simply have to visit. Also, while no real crowd, there were people around to take our group picture. Fun picture stop in Key West.

The Southernmost Point buoy is very touristy but you can’t go to Key West and not see it. We walked by multiple times over 3 days and there was always someone there taking pictures. Way less crowded if you go earlier in the morning.

Go see it so you can say you did it. Long lines for a pic. Parking is expensive and you have to walk a few blocks. You can drive by it but lots of people are there. The area is Dirty. Not worth it in my opinion.

Nothing special. A line of 50 people to take a photo in front of it is excessive. Driving past is OK, but you don't have to.

busy, busy, You have to run up and shoot your pixs. Always a line for the right shot, but you can be creative. We went down to the Southern most Restaurant were the have amini version we faked it.

We rented an electric car at 9am and we went to the Southernmost Point first. The line was not long at all. We walked right up and there were two couples in front of us. People in line will take your picture if you take their picture. This was a perfect photo stop to remember Key West-the southernmost point in the USA.

The iconic position of the marker reminds us how close Cuba is to the American coast!
A kind of hunting trophy which confirms our visit to this place!
Right next to a small building... housing the telephone connection from which an underwater line (125 miles) left for Havana Cuba!

This is one of the iconic Key West images, and everyone wants a souvenir photo! The last time we visited Key West, we walked up to the buoy and asked a passing person to snap our photo. This time - there was a LINE all the way to the end of the block! But it was a gorgeous day, and we didn't mind the wait. This is the requisite Key West photo op!

This was fun and took all of 5 minutes even with the small line of people waiting their turn to take their picture.

Can't visit Key West without stopping here. Free to access but depending on the time of day you may have to wait in line.

There's not much point to this - and there is a giant line of tourists waiting to get their photo taken.

A great bucket list option while visiting Key West. It’s right on the water with many friendly people around to take your picture for you. No charge to take in this fun pic. Part of the fun vibe in the Keys.

Interestingly - from this point, you are closer to Cuba than you are to a Walmart. Take a moment and stop by to snap a quick picture. It’s what you would expect. Surrounded by a lot of “southernmost” things…restaurant, hotel, house, resort) but it’s a famous picture

Really magnificent, a superb atmosphere in the streets and bars, a superb sunset, a place to visit without moderation and the road to the keys is also magnificent

We’re 4 days in the Keys. Highly recommend when you travel to Miami as it’s not that far away. It is as well approx. 165 km way from 🇨🇺

Nothing very special here, but it is very cool to say you've been to the southern most point in the USA. They do have the big marker for a good photo op.

This is good for a phot op and not much else. You will wait in line to take your pictures. But--it seems to be a "most do" in Key West. Interesting fact -- It is not really the southernmost point. that point is on the Naval Air Station and you need a military ID to get there.

90 miles from Cuba is hard to wrap your head around, but there you are. If you go early in the morning, you may be the only one there so its better if you'd like to take a photo or two.

This kitschy marker is popular with geography nerds and insta fans alike. If you want a selfie, go early in the morning to avoid long lines. Otherwise, you can snap a pic between groups.

KEY WEST - Interesting to know that you are at this extreme point, so it doesn't hurt to stop to take a photo. But I think waiting more than 20 minutes in line to take a photo alone is not worth it. The location is close to other interesting places such as the pier and the Marina. Small island, everything very close.

We were excited to get a family picture at the Southernmost Point while we were in Key West. Having read that it can be crowded and difficult to get a picture without waiting in a long line, we decided to head over before breakfast. I can happily report that an early morning visit (about 8am on a Saturday) rewarded us with a quick and easy stop. There were only a couple of people there, and by the time we left, the area was still pretty empty. However, when we walked by after breakfast, I could see that a crowd was forming.
While there is not much more to do than take a couple of pictures, I'm glad to have stopped by to say we visited the southernmost point in the contiguous US.

There is certainly nothing exciting about it apart from of course being able to say that you’ve stood on the most southern point of the USA. Go early to avoid the crowds.

Cute little tourist photo op. I was there at about an hour before sunset on a cloudy day (right after tropical storm Debby passed by) and so there was no wait and everyone was congenial and took pictures for others. Driving by the next day at 3:30 in the afternoon, sunny and beautiful, the line was around the block.

There was a line a block long for the iconic pic. We decided to do one from the side. Didn’t want to wait that long. Parking is on the street and we got lucky getting a close spot as we had already walked around the town all morning.

Great spot for a quick photo but be sure to go early in the morning for fewer people. Added benefit, it is free!

I had read reviews that the lines were very long, so we decided to stop by on our way to watch the sunrise at White Street Pier (we were on bikes). Because the sky was already brightening, we were able to get a picture without a flash. There was only one other couple there, which worked out because they took a picture of us. No lines! Just a quick stop for a picture and we were on our way.

New location and no line when we were there! You may actually have to wait until some more people come by to take your picture for you!

The supposed southernmost point of the USA. I'm not sure that it actually is but it is an icon to have your pics taken with. Get there early in the morning as a line forms.
Being back in Key West after an absence on more than 25 years or so, I wanted to take my son here to show him one of the popular sightseeing spots of Key West. We sauntered down to the bottom of Whitehead street one Sunday afternoon recently. The big, coloured concrete (!) buoy proudly claiming to be the southernmost point of continental USA hasn't changed much. There was a small crowd of fellow tourists congregating around and forming an orderly queue (standing in line) to have their photos taken. We did the same of course.
But it's ironic as it is quite well known that this is NOT the southernmost point. For the purists that distinction goes to Ballast Key about 10 miles away - and I mean further south...
