The beautiful grounds, loved all the fall colors and decorating inside and out. The mansion is beyond amazing. Would love to visit again when I have more time. I visited over 20 years ago and still impressed.

If you have never visited this magnificent house owned by the Seiberling family, go to see it in winter decorated by over 800,000 lights. I plan to go again this year (2028) because it was so wonderful. Enjoy some hot chocolate after seeing the inside of the house all decorated for the holidays. There is a large area of dancing lights with holiday music, fun for children, a lovely gift shop, cookies and so much more!!! Opening dates to see the lights are the last two weekends of November and weekends in December both before and after Christmas (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). Great for everyone in your family or just a group of friends celebrating the season.

Do the Manor House, Nooks and Crannies, and the gardens. This is an Akron treasure often overlooked by tourists and locals alike. Dedicated volunteer staff work to make your visit memorable.

Stan Hywet is not to be missed if you are visiting the Akron area. The manor is stunning and its history is well represented by the volunteer guides. Walk the grounds and gardens leisurely to appreciate their stunning beauty. Various events throughout the seasons appeal to multi generations. Locals are offered many opportunities to enjoy return visits via reasonable membership fee schedules.

If you have never been here, you must go. It is an amazing place with a lot of history behind it. The vases on the patio are priceless. People are friendly there. The gardens are absolutely amazing. So much history and architecture to be learned. Plan a family trip.

This place is most assuredly a treasure. Very enjoyable for me, but boys were not really enthralled with the Young Person’s tour. The docent was very knowledgeable, but was SO not kid centric. My 9 year old was ok with the tour, but said he would not do it again. My 5 year old was incredibly bored. None the less, there are some areas that are great for kids that we enjoyed.

I am a member every year there. What a fabulous place to see. The home is just outstanding in every way. The workmanship in it is still better than today. You feel ;like you were one of the guests invited by the Siberlings!! A journey back in time !! The Grounds are just beautiful. All the seasons have a different look and Christmas there you just have to see the lights. I love the spring and early summer for the flowers but the fall trees are a sight to see. All the different gardens are sooo unique!! It is very tranquil there.

Please go with the guided tour. It's very detailed and last around 1.5 hrs. It goes through the whole Manor House (ground floor and second floor). The Manor House just restored recently and thus all are in very good condition. Impressed with the design and details of the house. And the many unique ideas in the house (hidden stairway, hidden phones, hidden fire hose etc). Very interesting and worth going. The surrounding garden can complete in 30 mins. By the way the pull pork sandwiches at the cafe is very good. Grab one when you are hungry.

The tour guide was very good and when didn't know the answer to questions found out the answer for everyone in the tour. The place is very beautiful and I have been there several times. I think the gardens could be a little more colorful. I would recommend this tour for everyone. It is much better to learn a little more about the family as you tour the place.

We have visited Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens a number of time. Our first trip there we spent a good part of the day walking the grounds and touring the house. The house is beautiful, and such an interesting place to tour.
The gardens and property are incredible. Row after row of all kinds of plants and flowers. There are trails leading all through the property with cool and interesting things to see everywhere. A Japanese Garden, statues all over the place, delightful little walkways, water fountains, cool passageways, bridges, etc.
There is a GIANT spider web, ant hill, and bees nest for the kids (OK, so I am an ADULT KID) to climb on and in.
The beauty of this place is hard to describe. Everywhere you look there is something to enjoy. One thing which we appreciated very much, is during the height of COVID, when it seemed everything was closed, the managers of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens opened the grounds up with FREE admission. The house had to be closed during that time, but it was so nice to be able to get out and enjoy walking the beautiful grounds during such a hard time.

This is always a favorite destination when I visit Akron. A relic from a different era, I have always been awed by the interiors and gardens alike. The playgarden was new since I had last visted - quite nice.

My mother and I went here and did our own tour, we got to go at our own pace which took us half the day. We wondered the huge house and grounds. Everything is kept up well. I would do this tour again but this time with a tour guide to learn more about the history of the house. A book was given to help you learn about the house which was nice.

This tour is considered of the AAA's Gems. Even if you are not interested in history, you will enjoy this excursion. The mansion and gardens are exquisite. It's a 'must-see' when in this area.

My wife and I visited on October 4, 2024, which was the day of a large craft fair which supports the house and property, so the property was very crowded. Because of the crowds we were unable to see some of the out buildings and gardens. We did tour the main home which we found amazing — not Biltmore amazing— but still very much worth seeing.

The house is great especially during the Christmas season when there are lights everywhere. The gardens in summer show another side of the privileged life.

What a lovely and fitting venue to watch a Shakespeare performance! We walked the grounds of Stan Hywet before the show. The flowers were breathtaking. Such beautiful landscaping! Definitely take time to enjoy the grounds when you visit Stan Hywet.

This place is a fun visit, and a trip into local history. Definately going in spring/summer for the gardens.

Spent nearly three hours among the riot of color throughout the lush gardens of Stan Hywet. It was a perfect summer day with temperatures in the mid-70s and low humidity..too good to go inside and visit the manor house on this visit. Will save that adventure for a foul weather day. Lingered at the Japanese Garden for a few moments of quiet reflection. Fortunately, the blooming plants in the Great Garden were clearly labeled.
Was quite disappointed to discover that there were but a few butterflies in the exhibit. Be advised that butterflies are delivered to Stan Hywet and it is best to call in advance and ask about the number of butterflies if that is important to you. We saw three (3) butterflies. I had guests from out of town and was a little embarrassed to learn of this. I had previously enjoyed a wonderful visit and had shared how spectacular the butterflies would be.
Tuesdays are 50% off admission for seniors. Caught a lucky break on that. All staff/volunteers were courteous, helpful and friendly. No parking fee.

I had a great time on the guided tour inside the mansion then proceeded to the grounds where they allow you to explore. The gardens are superb as well as the butterfly house. This visit was a full morning of fun! Don’t forget to take home a souvenir from their gift shop!

We visited Ohio Mart on the grounds of Stan Hywet. The vendors are spread over a wide area, but you can walk easily from one area to the next. We have been there many times to walk grounds, visit mansion, and see Santa light the Christmas tree at Christmas. It is always a treat. There is a little spot to eat and a lovely gift shop. It is beautiful in spring when the star magnolias are in bloom. The house is lovely. I especially enjoy the dining room and the west porch. What a beautiful home!

I stopped here on my way home to PA from Indiana. I was just looking for a place to stretch my legs...it was so much more than that though! The manor house always beautiful but the grounds were impeccable! There was so much see I ended up spending two hours there. It is a must see in Akron!

This is a beautiful estate with extensive gardens. We had originally purchased the “nooks and crannies” tour, which included spaces not included in the normal house tour. It was discontinued because of Covid. We instead purchased the Outdoor History tour, thinking it would be similar. Unless you have a lot of time (and just walking the grounds and touring the home takes about 1-1/2 hours), I’d pass on the history tour and just buy the self-guided house tour. The history tour moved along at a snail’s pace and really didn’t include any information we could not get from just reading the brochure. With respect to the house tour, I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had been guided, but it is what it is for now.

I visited for the Christmas lights at Stan Hywet, which goes all out with Christmas decorations. This is the largest single family home in Ohio and is impressive on it's own. Sometimes they do sell out so get your tickets before hand and minimize the amount of time in the mansion line and visit later in the day or night.

This was a unplanned stopped but glad we did. Beautiful grounds and a bit of history. Plan on a few hours to really explore.

Stan Hywet is a must-see for anyone interested in local history (or even just history in general). Touring the house gives a fascinating peek at an interesting family in an interesting time period. So much care was given to designing every inch of it - the walls, ceilings, windows, artwork, furniture... I've been many times and I always notice some new detail or learn some new tidbit each time. It's really neat to see how high-tech the house was for its time and how that technology was discreetly hidden throughout. My favorite parts are the chaperone's window, the secret passageway in the library, and of course "the Plunge" - the swimming pool in the basement! The gardens are beautiful & well maintained and fun to explore as well.

We arrived in time for the noon guided tour with Scott. The home is just beautiful beyond your wildest dreams. Built in 1915 it had a central vacuum system and an electric Ice box. The woodwork was fabulous and the furnishings were all from that period. Scott was very informative and I suggest you take a guided tour. Well worth the price of admission

This is a terrific place to visit at any time of the year. It is truly a gem to be valued. All ages will see things of interest and be wildly entertained. If you ever get to attend a wedding at Stan Hywet it will be a memorable experience! I did and it was. Don't miss an opportunity to see the grounds and house at Christmas.

This is a great place to visit when in the Akron area. It is beautiful and you can get a lot of history about the place or just stroll and enjoy the beauty if that's what you prefer.

This is a very large mansion and grounds. We took a tour and the lady was very knowledgeable and made the place come alive. Without it we would have just meandered around and not knowing the cast of characters and the history of the place.

That’s right. If you plan to visit the Manor House and gardens, you could spend the entire day here. So, wear your comfortable walking shoes. Keep your snacks and beverages in your car while you visit the home. Bring an umbrella. Leave your backpacks at home. Turn off the flash on your camera.
Note-Your GPS may not navigate you to the exact entrance. The entrance is positioned at a diagonal at the intersection, and the turn comes up fast. We had to turn around in a nearby, residential neighborhood, and circle back. Because of the tricky entrance and exit, leave your RV at the campground.
A cafe exists here. There is a nice gift shop. A butterfly garden is open per the season. The children’s garden is lovely. Overall, this worthwhile visit is deserving of a detour.

First, if you live in the area become a member. Free visits, great play area for kids, bubbles that blow when you walk by a sensor, water that shoots from the sidewalk, lawn bowling, and a sandbox in the kids area. Feed the butterflies in the butterfly house. Go geocaching on the grounds. For the adults, Murder in the Mansion, a Gala and Ohio Mart where there are a multitude of vendors selling crafts, jewelry and art. Food trucks, drinks. Christmas is beautiful there too. Worth the visit every time.

Lovely Saturday afternoon spent touring the Manor House and Gardens. Everything was in bloom, even a wedding during our visit.

A beautiful restored Tudor mansion. At Christmas the house and grounds are stunning. A wonderland of lights. Not to be missed!

Annually they host two Shakespeare plays - you can picnic on the grounds and enjoy both the grounds and great theater!

If you enjoy touring older homes, this is one you should not miss. Besides the house, you can simply walk around the grounds taking in the flowers and trees. There is also a greenhouse and gift shop to spend time in while you are there. The tour is at least an hour long and usually more with questions from the group. Since they only allow so many people per tour, it's wise to reserve your place for the tour and be sure to wear comfortable shoes. It was a warm summer day and that makes it more difficult while you are touring the upper floors of the house. Still, it is a tour worth taking and especially with a knowledgeable tour guide.

A nice day out. We went for Mother's Day. Arrived and parked and got tickets for the self guided tour. Don't miss the short video of Stan Hywet in the visitor center. Then went into the house. Lots of interesting things to look at. There are lots of stairs to be able to see everything. There is also an exhibit in the basement of the contributions of the family to Akron. Also had a look around the gardens. The English garden was nice. Also had a walk to the conservatory and shop. You could easily spend a good part of a day here.

We started planning our trip a few months ago, and this place was on our list. We finally arrived this past Saturday, and Sunday we made reservations online to tour here. LITTLE DID WE KNOW - this is NOT what you should do if you are senior citizens. Normally you can get a better price when you book online however, in this case, the people that run this tour chose NOT to let you know when you ARE online that there is a senior discount available. We only found out when we arrived to check in. We saw it on the board and asked for an adjustment since we are 76 and 77. because the office couldn’t handle checking people in for the tour very quickly, we decided we would handle it after the tour because we were already holding people up, even though we had arrived early.
After the tour we came back and the gentleman told us that the manager turned down our request saying NO REFUNDS. Well, we weren’t asking for a refund per se, we were asking for an adjustment. This is only fair since nothing was on the website informing us that we could have half-price senior citizen tickets if we only bought in person. What a ROTTEN ending to a good trip!!!
DO NOT BUY TICKETS ONLINE IF YOU ARE ELDERLY. THEY WILL GYP YOU!!! WHAT AN AWFUL BUSINESS PRACTICE!!

Very very very special.. Hey it's Akron so don't get to excited, this page however is a truly classic gem.. I cannot name 5 things worth doing in Akron but this is one of them.

Don't forget to experience the "healing spiritual presence" of Bill W. and Dr. Bob at the GATEHOUSE. Gatehouse of the estate tickets are only $6.00 instead of $15.00
for a tour of the manor house. That said, the full $15.00 for both is a bargain!
This is truly an "American Great House" on the scale and style of many in the U.K.
With the marvelous interior furnishings, you needn't fly across the Atlantic to visit our cousins, you can have the same experience in Akron.

This is a wonderful place to visit, time & time again. It has seasonal advantages, and rotating venues. The guides are very pleasant and accomodating. Nice to take out of town visitors.

This was our second visit to the house and gardens. The nooks and grannies tour was awesome. Our guide,Joe, was great. We would recommend it to anyone who appreciates historical places and beautiful gardens. We will be back.

Wonderful trip to Stan Hewlett during the holiday season. Beautiful decorations, organized self guided tour! Highly recommend going at dusk …it is not crowded but it is dark enough to see the lights!

Spur of the moment trip. Bought tickets there. $15 self tour. Took us about 3 hours. The furnishings are beautiful. Well worth every penny. Gardens were still blooming this week in September. And the grounds are well loved and cared for. This is a lost gem. Will go back during the holidays😀

Stan Hywet is full of history and it is like stepping back into time imaging how one could have lived in that world.

The driveway is lined with lighted arches. There is Santa outside once you park and a big fire pit with seating. There was someplace you could get Hot Chocolate or Coffee (don’t know if they charge)
Walking up to the house is beautiful, all full of lights. I did see off to the side a sign for handicap. There are steps to go in. Everything is roped so you follow single style, the rooms are roped off but you can look all you want. Each room is decorated beautifully. There is an upstairs (I did not see any signs for handicap). There is no elevator.
Now, we did the dinner. Prepaid it was $100 each with 2 tickets for alcohol drinks. You had to go about 12 steps down as it was in the basement. You sat on folding chairs. The only had beer or wine for alcohol drinks. Dinner was supposed to be from 5-7 then dessert from 7-9. Well they just put everything out. The pork slices were very dry and no flavor. Chicken also was dry but had a good flavor. Salad was good. Veggies were cold. Within the hour the dessert were gone except for a few cookies.
Took a walk and they had a display with lights in time to the music.
Overall I would go back but not to the dinner.

Stan Hywet is a significant part of Akron, Ohio history. Taking a tour of the manor and the grounds/gardens is well worth the time and gives you an opportunity to learn the history of it. The house has been preserved with many original items from the Seiberling Family. Stan Hywet holds many events each year. Ohio Mart and their Christmas lights display are two favorites.

This mansion is a great place to tour any time of the year! It's particularly striking during the Christmas season - but you will love it any time! The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable about the Seiberlings and history of the house. The grounds are awesome! Franklin Seiberling was an inventor and founder of Goodyear Tire. With original furnishings, the gardens, conservatory, and stories from the past, you can really imagine the family living here!! Senior discounts are available, as well as, military, first responders, and AAA! This tour is well worth your time!

If you enjoy touring the homes and grounds of titans of industry from the gilded age, then this tour is for you!
The home itself is lovely, has many interesting features and contains a number of artifacts of the Seiberlings and of the period. A recently added exhibit in the basement details the history of the family and the creation of Goodyear.
The grounds are well kept. There is a quiet path that leads from the house through the Japanese garden, around the quarry and back up to the flower gardens. Many lovely places around the estate to sit and enjoy a lunch or a drink or just some quiet time.
There is a place for young children to play, a gift shop with some unique items and a small café where you can grab a bite. The estate holds many special events throughout the year.
I would definitely recommend a visit here.

The hall itself is very impressive: many, many rooms with almost exclusively the material and furnishings that were there at the time.
Also, good history of the family including timelines and contribution to the community. etc. Pretty grounds. Most impressive however was the staff: almost without exception each member of the staff that I encountered in the building shared knowledge and was outgoing and friendly. It's not only that they had the knowledge, but they shared it almost before you asked.

A good place to get some of the history of the Akron auto industry. The tours are well worth while of this mansion and grounds.

We are here for the Akron Shakespeare Theatre to see A Midsummers’ Night Dream. It was a Magical outdoor setting and the grounds were amazing. People had picnic baskets and there were so many lovely places to see and stroll on a beautiful summer evening.

Christmas decorations were amazing, The House was so beautifully decorated. Enjoyed every bit, inside and out. Wonderful Christmas experience with my daughter and her best friends.

Our first time at the manor and it was spectacular! We went for the afternoon self-guided tour of the manor house and greenhouse, conservatory and rain forest, it was absolutely stunning. Parking is very easy you walk over to the admission and get your ticket and they have a gift shop and a small eatery and then you walk to the manor house, it’s three stories and you can walk outside to the gardens, the conservatory greenhouse. In all we spent about three hours there, but it was freezing cold and they did have warming stations but we didn’t do a lot of the outside stuff they do have a large kids play area outside during nice weather. You get a nice booklet with a map and there’s volunteers everywhere around the manor and outside if you have questions, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful! We would definitely go again.

So my husband and I decided to use general admission tickets we'd won in a raffle in August of this year. I had checked on line, and saw on their web page grounds were open/ last tour at until 4:30. Then their holiday lights seasonal tickets would be required. I had checked, again via website saw could still buy tickets if needed, as available and thought (my error) would be safe to purchase at door. Upon arrival, approximately 3:15, was told by a staffer outside grounds close at 4:00. I was confused and I politely told the staffer would as at desk, as not what their web site states. Upon entering ticket office. One gentleman working counter and their were 2 small groups getting tickets and as should, clarifying their questions/concerns.. so about 20 minutes later while the gentleman is helping the person in front of us, renew their membership and then asks the gentleman to purchase tickets for night lights on grounds a nice lady comes out, and appologizing..not sure why, as staff are allowed breaks and lunches. But long short of it, the lady who was renewing and then decided to also purchase tickets (as her right) bought the last of the tickets. So, waiting not only stopped our use of the general admission tickets, but could not purchase tickets to tour grounds. It is unclear if these were for self guided or part of a required tour .as unfortunately not communicated well not by staffer not the website. The gentleman was nice, but it was frustrating and the wait ate into the time we could have used to tour the grounds. So, in future one needs to call or just book on line for tickets as in person could cause one to waste a trip. Ask maybe in future for location to post sold out or ticket availability on website to help in future.

I can't say enough about this place. There is plenty of free parking. You start at the visitor's center for ticket purchases. I missed the guided tour, so did a self-guided tour with the information booklet provided. I could have spent way more than two hours there just walking around the house and grounds. Docents/staff are positioned in the house and on the grounds to answer any questions you may have.

My partner and I went to Stan Hywet while visiting family and it's gorgeous. Every detail was immaculate. The grounds were beautifully maintained. We would highly recommend going, and cannot wait to go back.

5 stars. Gorgeous home & grounds. House’s architecture & furnishings are stunning, and so complete you feel like you traveled back in time. Incredibly restored. Loved it. I came to see the house, so gardens & al fresco lunch were an unexpected bonus.

We did the Nooks and Crannies tour with Landis. It is a wonderful tour. We went everywhere on the serving personnel side. It was so worth it. Landis was a great tour guide and fun. The house was incredibly interesting. We also did the self guided tour of the house. The grounds were well kept. We were dissappointed with Mollie's Cafe. They serve warmed up store bought quiche. The sandwiches were half sandwiches warmed up. Nothing great there. I think the write up was misleading for the food served. All in all a wonderful day.

Stepping inside Stan Hywet Hall is like taking a journey back in time. The inside of the former Seilberling Residence is just beautiful. The attention to detail and craftsman ship of the home for the time period is beyond words. During the holidays they offer a tour of the home in all its holiday splendor. The gardens are decorated so beautifully that you would think you at a magazine shoot! During the summer months, they have various events such as the ever popular father's day car show to vintage 1870's baseball, which takes place on the front lawn on various weekends throughout the summer. If you haven't have the chance to tour the home of one of the greats that put Akron, Ohio on the map, then you are missing out. Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is a jewel well worth seeing.

beautiful gardens, a must see in the spring and summer. They also have some interesting events there/

What a thrilling experience it must have been to work as a domestic employee for the Seiberling family, founders of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. We toured the Manor House and saw first-hand what a stately home they had built. There were impeccable grounds, beautiful antique furniture, elaborate tapestry, elevators, a communication center and a "plunge" pool. Mrs. Seiberling was a talented artist and her paintings were on display thru-out the home. Even with all the latest features, the Seiberling family was very kind and generous to their staff. The Seiberling family were also founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. This beautiful home is a "must see" for those travelers who enjoy viewing such majestic dwellings.
Note: If your curious, you might ask your docent where the name Stan Hywet came from.

We wanted to see the AA memorabilia and that was nicely displayed in the gate house. We stayed for the guided tour of the mansion.Honestly this stuff is my husband's cup of tea not mine. Tours of overly ostentatious homes -well I just can't. But my husband thoroughly loved it and that's what mattered.

Stan Hywet hall and gardens is a treat for NEO families and guests from out of state. Wonderful museum home saved by the women of akron for all generations to enjoy. Built before the federal and state government developed 'temporary' income taxes when the wealthy could enjoy the fruits of their labor and invest it in their home (castle)

Was something to see for people who lived over 100 yrs ago. Took the self tour. Glad I did because could go at own pace. Much to see about the house & gardens. Amazing to see what wealth could buy then here in USA & learn the history about these people & the time period. The place was amazing but the ballroom was my favorite. Apparently, AA was started here by one of the daughter's concern. She lived to be 108yrs old. You won't be disappointed to visit!

This was my first visit to Stan Hywet. A group of 7 people attended to celebrate the holiday season. Of the 7 attendees, 4 were over 80 years old -- 2 of whom were in a wheel chair. The grounds were beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and the displays were very pretty.
The only troubling thing is that it is not disbility friendly: When touring the mansion, the space to manipulate a wheelchair (w/c) going into many rooms were very tight; additionally, there was no 2nd floor access for those in a w/c; those members of our party needed to stay on the first floor while others went upstairs. The stairs to the 2nd floor were winding which made navigating them difficult for those who were able to walk
Outdoors, the grounds were lovely however I would definitely NOT recommend taking the path in the back of the grounds and the grape vine path. These paths are uneven, lined with slabs of uneven rock that make it extremely difficult for those with impaired balance when walking and VERY challenging when pushing someone in a w/c. At a few places on these paths, there are a few stairs (3 or 4) to navigate up and down with NO wheelchair ramp access. To continue on the journey, wheelchair dependant people need to get out of their w/c; walk up the 3-4 steps while someone then carries their w/c up the same steps, before they can sit back down and proceed with the tour.
Personally, as a Rehab professional, I cannot stress enough the challenges of navigating that path. I would opppose taking a w/c dependent person to this venue.

Visited Stan Hywett with friends over the holidays for the first time in several years. The inside was decorated very nicely but didn't seem like it was as much as the first time I had visited several years ago - I recommend getting there right as it starts as we did not have the long line inching along slowly like our first visit this time. The outdoors was amazing and it felt like they had really stepped up the outdoor lights and decorations Beautiful. The Dazzle display - lights set to music - seemed a little off as you couldn't really get the feel of the lights and music in sync like I've seen elsewhere but that would be my only suggestion for improvement. Greenhouse was also lit up nicely.

Decided to take the trip to go to Nightlights and tour the gardens. The gardens are beautiful with lighting and ponds. There was a musician also and a fire area for making your own s'mores (purchased there) . The lightnights show was great..plenty of oohs and aahs! Great evening!

Driving to this location I found myself saying I guess this is what they mean by the haves and have nots. There is such a huge gap it is shocking. That aside, when you get there you will get a map that is so out of proportion it makes you wonder who drew it up? Having this coupled with a lack of signage telling you what you are looking at or where you are going may frustrate you if you are looking for something in particular. If you are happy wandering aimlessly this won't bother you at all. The English garden is seriously lacking in English plants. The Japanese garden has no plants not even a Japanese maple. The tennis court makes you wonder why don't they add a net so you can play? If you enjoy dahlia's you will see fields of them. In the English garden as well as the main garden. The rose garden has a lovely sculpture that is well done, sadly the roses have black spot. All in all I wouldn't go back but am glad I went. Why may you ask? It was quiet and calm, the paths while narrow and confusing at times are very green. It was nice to step out and experience something new.

The tour and gardens are beautiful. The fall foliage is awesome and the grape harbor is always the best. A Akron Landmark. Look forward to Christmas View..

A wonderful place to visit with great gardens and a beautiful home. We have visited several times and always enjoy.

We went to the manor and did the self tour. It was intersting but our son was slightly bored and wanted to rush through it but still enjoyed it.

Non Nobis Solum is Latin for "Not for Us Alone". F.A and Gertrude Seiberling lived this credo out their entire lives at Stan Hywet Hall. This Tutor revival estate is a beautiful testament to a family that understood their status could help develop Akron, Ohio into a world-class city.
This year's theme is "Community" and it traces the contributions that the Seiberling family made to the development of Akron from a canal town of 5,000 to an industrial giant. The estate celebrated its centennial a couple years ago (2015) and is in a continual state of restoration. Each visit feels like it's the first time because of the restoration efforts that have been completed.
My friend and I took a self-guided tour and the booklet gave a sketch of each room with a couple highlights of which to be aware. I have taken guided tours in the past and each docent offers something new each time I have them lead the tour.
Be sure to take a "Nooks and Crannies" tour as you will be able to see the steel superstructure of the house as well as servants' quarters and third floor spaces (wireless radio space, infirmary, nursery). The Christmas displays are also well worth the experience as each year's theme showcases the manor house and gardens in a new light.
The gardens are beautiful and should be seen during each season. This visit was a summer visit. The cutting garden was in full bloom and there were some gorgeous perennials in the walled English garden. The Japanese garden was restored a number of years ago and is a peaceful retreat that many visitors often overlook.
During summer months, the estate hosts live theater in the lagoon area. Be sure to go to the website to see each year's offerings.

The volunteers are wonderful and inviting us as guests on this ultra rich experience. There are many available rooms to see in the mansion. You will take lots of pictures although no video. There is considerable walking so it may not be appealing to physical limitations.

I did the self-guided tour and just loved the home. I'm not sure it's mentioned anywhere, but there are stairs involved. If there's a way around them, I didn't notice it. If you can't do stairs, be sure to check

The house was gorgeous, and the gardens were beautiful. They even had a scavenger hunt for the kids to keep them busy.

Nice please to be visited, located in Akron OH. It's better during the summer. Don't forgot to visit the interiors.

I had the opportunity to tour this local gem with my family this past October. The grounds were absolutely beautiful at the peak of the Fall season and the home is just stunning!! It is like walking back in time as the home is filled with all original furnishings. There is a lovely gift shop on site as well as a cafe to grab a bite to eat. Definitely worth a visit. Such a rich part of Akron's history.

What a fantastic look in the the not to far away past of a hardworking industrialist that lived the American dream. He was the other half of the “Goodyear” tire company. His dedication to his employees, their philanthropy, and their willingness to serve the country during the two great wars is true Americana at heart. During your self-guided tour (audio and guide led tours available for an extra fee), we learned how these humble folks worked to build a massive empire that employed tens of thousands and provided for many more. And although the heirs to the family wealth led to a privilidged life, the young men of the family dutifully signed up for duty with the armed services and served before returning back to the business to carry it on. We also saw the lives of the women of the family and how they gave to many causes in order to better the lives of all. The mansion the family lived in was nothing short of an amazing American version of an English Tudor Castle. The garden grounds is a must see during late summer when all is in full bloom. Do plan on spending a few hours here!

Heard about this place from someone who had been there and decided to go during a fall getaway. What a beautiful place and such a great tour! After doing some online research, we decided to take the "Nooks and Crannies" tour, which was seemingly the most complete tour of the property. It included the self-guided tour as well as many other rooms that were not included - and was given by an experienced guide. Such a beautiful place and the guide was very knowledgeable about the Seiberling family and why certain features of the house were designed. It was definitely worth the extra money to take the more complete tour and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go. Make sure you have a good full afternoon to see everything!

A must see in Ohio. American royalty living in a Tudor mansion. Spectacular grounds and rich with Ohio history!

Going to a place where miracles happen is a stop on my trip that cannot be beat. I would not be alive if not got the events that happened in this gate house. Amen.

It’s a tribute to the elite way of life a century ago. The Seiberling family’s estate was built on nearly 3,000 acres and the home to one of the founders of Goodyear. The house tours reflect their life at various times of the year. The gardens are ever changing as well. Various festivals, vintage base ball games, car shows, summer theater, and crafts are a sampling or the outdoor attractions. Be on the lookout for the “Nooks and Cranies” tours that take you behind the scenes of how the house was designed. You are literally taken behind the walls and above the ceilings to see the modern engineering that supports a Tudor appearance.

Stan Hywet is a place everyone needs to visit when in the Akron area. The history of the home, Akron, and the rubber companies are all shared during the tour.

we had a fantastic time walking through both the hall in the gardens and looking at the different Christmas displays that we're up. The tree lighting ceremony was just a joyful thing like you would see in a Hallmark movie.

The holiday decorating was gorgeous this year! When we stepped outside the house a light snow was falling making the grounds sparkle. Yummy gingerbread cookies and cocoa.

Christmas is very special at the the Stan Hywet Home and Gardens. The grounds are a wonderland of decorations and the inside of the home is decorated as it was when the Seiberling family lived there. Christmas tours are wonderful.

What a terrific place. Very well kept with stunning waterfalls and gardens. Thanks so much to our hosts for opening up their home.

Even locals don't seem to tire of touring the grounds and mansion. The property even boasts the building where the first AA meeting ever took place
Spend the day walking the themed gardens-a photographer's paradise. There is a huge array of plant varieties and butterflies.
There are many public events scheduled, plus private, including weddings.
The mansion takes you back in time with authentic restoration that took place years ago. You feel transformed into a time when the likes of the Vanderbuilts and Rockefellers were displaying their wealth throughout their lavishly furnished homes.

My sister and I have lived within 50 miles of Stan Hywet all our lives. It's one of those places you "mean" to get around seeing. We went on Wednesday and wow, now it's a must see when we have out-of-town company. We registered ahead for the "nooks and crannies" tour which was very reasonable at $28. It was well guided by Mary with a lot of details. This tour took us behind the scene to include how the Seiberling family staff managed the household. Afterwards we did the self-guided tour and with all the background from our nooks and crannies tour we picked up on so many details. The gardens include an English garden and a Japanese garden. We had a very nice lunch in the gatehouse at a reasonable price. They also have a lovely gift shop. I highly recommend going. Going in late spring we missed the spring flowers including the multitude of rhododendrons, but still lots was flowering. I will be back to enjoy Stan Hywet in fall and winter for certain.

The display of gorgeous Christmas Lights and Decorations is breathtaking!! Stroll through the outdoor Winter Wonderland, filled with lollipop trees, spectacular gardens, hot chocolate, and Santa Claus! The Hall tour takes you room to room, each one more spectacular than the next!! There is also a lovely gift shop, and a trolley to take you from the parking area. It does get very crowded, but my friends and I had a wonderful time! This is family friendly..the children will love it!! Plan on spending a few hours here if you want to enjoy all of the stunning beauty!

Not only is this an incredible place to visit, but the nicest thing is that there are a number of tours so you can take any family who visits and still see a new tour for yourself. Can't imagine what it would have been like to live there, but it is certainly a wonderful place to tour.

Beautiful grounds, beautiful gardens, gorgeous Manor, it's like you're in Ole England. A national gem right here in the heart of Akron.

We visited here in the winter with the Christmas lights and what an amazing place to go. We are going to check out spring this year.

Wonderful Christmas tour. Both the gardens and the manor house are decorated beautifully! The lights in the gardens are amazing. The conservatory has a huge tree made from poinsettias....lots of pictures being taken there! Santa is there for the children. There is a lighting of the Christmas tree at 5:30 each evening.

The Seiberling Mansion in and of itself is a very beautiful space, however during the Holiday season the beauty is elevated. Each year the estate crew and volunteers decorates the rooms and grounds according to a selected theme. This years theme was comic book hero's and the estate did not disappoint. Each room of the estate is beautifully filled with festive trees and decorations and the grounds of the estate is embellished with colorful lights and displays. There is an outdoor fire pit, hot chocolate and hot cider and the estates famous gingerbread cookies for purchase. A new addition this year was the adorable "Giant Water Globe" where participants could walk into the clear plastic dome, stand within the decorations and have their photo taken. This year we made this our "Girls night out" destination and we had so much fun.

It is a family tradition to attend the sites great holiday festival. The home is breathtaking with the various decorations and the grounds are beautifully lit with festive decorations and lights. The event is well planned with excellent shuttle service and adequate staffing. The gift shop is filled with great last minute holiday gifts. Of course, the gingerbread cookies are not to be missed and the luckily sell frozen boxes to take home and bake throughout the season.

A must see, good time with lots of history. We enjoyed the day and would go back again. MAke sure to have lunch while you are there.

The property was built between 1912 and 1915 by F. A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and his wife Gertrude Ferguson Penfield Seiberling on a 28 hectare plot of land and suffered, especially during the initial construction period, from the fact that the later owners were not on site so the construction site didn't really make any progress. It was only when F. A. Seiberling personally moved into the only finished room in the house and visited the site every day that the construction site was completed in less than a year.
The long, sprawling mansion covers 5,990 m², extends over four floors and a lower basement level - plus extensive gardens - all of which can be viewed for $30 per person (and there have been at least 2 people in each room for each of the numerous Rooms could tell a story - here the dining room for 50 people, there the concert hall with the good surround sound, etc.) - a worthwhile journey into the past.

This is a beautiful Tudor house. Lots of gorgeous woodwork and a music room bigger than my house! Docent I had was very thorough - maybe too much so. I was told tour would last 1.5 hours. At the end of 1.5 hours, we were still on the first floor. Since I was traveling and still had a lot of miles to cover, I left the tour and explored second floor on my own. If I went back again, I think I would tour on my own, not with a docent. As I was pressed for time, did not take sufficient time to enjoy the gardens.

The house itself was absolutely stunning. All of the guides were very helpful and informative. The house itself has amazing features, such as flowers, grand rooms, simple but charming bedrooms, secret passage ways, and so much more. The house is amazing, but the grounds are definitely one of my favorite parts. Stan Hywet has amazing gardens with beautiful flowers, little ponds, and just amazing architecture. I always learn something new every time I go. Stan Hywet is also fascinating at Christmas, where the rooms are themed and there is a light show, and I could go on forever about how amazing Ohio Mart is.

We spent a Sunday afternoon taking a self-tour of the mansion and gardens so we could go at our own pace and take pictures when we wanted.Very impressed by the helpful volunteers in providing tram (golf cart) transport from parking lot to mansion and then to gardens. The mansion is large in square footage, but it is not over the top in size or furnishings. It is just a grand home for a family of eight. The rooms were impressive with original furniture and tasteful design. Outside the gardens in mid summer were beautiful. We could have spent more time outside but the mid eighties temperature was too hot. Warning about the inside: it is not air conditioned so it can be quite warm on a hot day even with the fans blowing. This is well worth the reasonable fee.

Amazing look into the past trappings of a late nineteenth century wealthy family who built an empire, home, and aristocracy here in “Rubber City.”
Take the tour led by volunteers. Imagine the parties held in the large ballroom which has its own concert pipe organ. Check out the servants quarters, stables, and gardens.
Visit the grounds once owned by the founders of the company that flies the famous blimps.

I was looking to kill some time and decided to stop in and check this place out as I do like to explore these historic homes. The fee can vary depending on the tour you take but since I was there while an art fair was going on, I only paid $16 to enter and go on a self guided tour. You walk through the house and you are instantly transported back 100 years as the house is so well preserved. You look at each room and it feels like the family could return any moment as it seems to be just as they left it. Just a wonderful way to spend an hour or two if you like looking at pieces of history.

I have visited the house several times and every time it has more beauty. The grounds are quite nice during spring and they also have beautiful Christmas lights from Thanksgiving to christmas

Make sure you have plenty of time to tour the Manor House and gardens. The docents that take you on the tour have a wealth of info that you cannot get on a self-guided tour which they also offer. Just sitting outside the café near the former stables is so relaxing.Their website offers hours and rates as they offer a variety of tours.

We visited for Ohio Mart. Beautiful grounds and good craft vendors. The fall food is our favorite and pierogis are recommended! One of the best places in the Akron area for every season!

What a beautiful place. The gardens are spectacular - so many different types - made me wish I had lived during the time period in order to be a guest of the family - and the house/mansion was gorgeous. Our tour guide had so much information to share. We really enjoyed our visit. Might not be as enjoyable in the rain since there are so many gardens.

The Seiberlings got it right.....the mansion has never looked better..These is one of those places never go out of style

We fo every year to Deck the halls. Absolutely breathtaking! We're always so excited for the theme and all of the lights are just amazing!!!

We've heard of this place but hadn't visited until this week. We were very impressed not only with the mansion but the gardens were numerous and bursting with color. We also went on the tour which was very informative and added the historical perspective to this wonderful attraction.

This is one of the largest mansions in the US. Built for the Seiberling family that founded The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. It is an excellent example of how the wealthy lived in those days. The grounds are exquisite. Expect to spend several hours. Spring summer or fall, it is great place to visit. The conservatory and gift shop are gems too. They have a play area for littler visitors also.

We took the nooks & crannies tour with C. B., and loved it. Even our 14 and 21-year-olds thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We arrived early and toured the grounds and did the self-guided tour of the house, reading along in our visitor's guide. If you are undecided, go for the nooks and crannies over the regular guided tour, since the guidebook does a really nice job of explaining the main part of the house and offers additional little trivia tidbits, as well. C. B. did a great job and made us feel like we were really privileged to see the "back" parts of the house. HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting Stan Hywet Hall.
With equal emphasis, we recommend NOT to purchasing tickets online (unless you are attending a scheduled, special event), ahead of your visit. We did, thinking it was wise to do so and to make sure we were able to visit on the day and time that fit our vacation schedule. Only after did we find the small section on the website that addressed discounts, one being that college students (with ID) qualify for the lower (by $18) youth rate; the other being a $1 discount for adult AAA cardholders. Those discounts, which would have saved us $20, are not applicable to online purchases and the ticket office WILL NOT refund or negotiate or really do anything more than shrug and say, "sorry, all sales are final." We felt a bit taken advantage of, honestly. If you're going to offer a discount, offer it to those that are being proactive and buying tickets in advance, as well as to those who purchase tickets on-site.
As frustrating as the discount experience was, we still give Stan Hywet high marks and would consider touring again, if ever in the area. Honestly, the experience was worth the entire $94 that we paid, though it would have been nice to have had the chance to save $20 in discounts. Perhaps we would have been more generous in the gift shop or the cafe...

We have been members for 10+ years and fully support the foundation and as many events that we can. The staff is amazing and the ground are breathtaking!

I have been going to Stan Hywet for many years and last year I became a member for me and my family. We always enjoy the tours of the house, the magnificent gardens and I love to bring my grandchildren to romp the gardens and the fun children area with the splash pad and unique things to play on. I also enjoy bringing my dog for the woof walks. Everyone is very informative and it is always an enjoyable experience everytime we go.

We only did the gardens not the home and it was a perfectly lovely morning. The gardens are stunning the staff super helpful and friendly. Restrooms are conveniently located throughout property

I've always visited in the summer when the gardens are in full bloom. Very well maintained and the light festivals that they offer are truly impressive. Snacks are over priced, so be prepared to drop some money if you want to eat or drink anything while you are there.

Head heard of the christmas lights display, so we carne to check it out while out here visiting family. Beautiful stunning displays. Lots of historical information. Definitely need to wear comfortable shoes. The grounds are massive so lots of walking arounds. The tour thru house was also nice, but very crowded so it starts feeling very warm.

Great place year round especially at Christmas! Tree decorations in and out. Lights and even a warm greenhouse to see with beautiful flowers in the winter. Great local history from the founder of Goodyear.

We saw this advertised in Midwest Living magazine and made a reservation to go and see it for our annual Holiday trip with a Christmas theme. My husband and daughter were with me. As we approached the Hall it began to snow and that added an extra element of beauty to the exterior walk through the lighted gardens! However, it was also a little hard to see as our glasses kept getting fogged/ hot breath in 32 degree weather! The interior of the Hall resembles a 'castle' or 'cathedral as most of the walls are made of carved wood. The guide explained that the original owners, co-founders of Goodyear Rubber Co. wanted to feel like they were in the 17th century; all the furnishings also made the house feel like a museum. Later we walked all around the grounds and were delighted by the modern light show, complete with music. We would like to return in Spring to see it again in another Season! Well worth the admission!

I can’t say how gorgeous the house and gardens are. Everyone should visit here at least once. The history is amazing!!!

This place was incredible, you can't believe how beautiful it is until you see it and I don't mean just the house, it's the gardens and the hothouse gardens on the grounds as well. There's so much to see, and the majority of the grounds of the estate are handicap accessible, but some places aren't. There's a little cafe eating area, and a kids play area, the Japanese garden, Rose garden, Apple orchard, and a garden with a pool. Well worth a stop, give yourself about at least 2 hours. Go and enjoy!

This place is amazing. The house and gardens have been preserved just like they were when the Seiberling family lived there. The furnishings are all original to the house and many were antiques bought for the house in England. The gardens are spectacular and varied. Good food in the cafe and nice gift shop too.

I though during Covid would be better after leaving last year seeing the insane lines and no parking. Bought tickets in advance thinking it would be less crowded and enjoyable not the case. Walked the grounds n less than an hour probably over 185 waiting inline to go inside . $22 a person for probably Less than an hour completely outdoors there is not truly 3 acres to spend time looking at and it’s cold .
Not what I expected sub par lights n decor .

Three key dad n two adults went on the Youth Tour. It was from a young boy’s view of living in the Seiberling mansion in the early 1900’s. The shortened tour was perfect. Tour guide was patient and answered all questions. Although I had been through three times before, I learned more details I never picked up on before.
The 10 year old took a few pics inside but maybe 200 outside! He really enjoyed the gardens. 8 year old sister liked the “spider web” made from rope. All kids enjoyed feeding the butterflies with Gatorade on a q-tip! So much to see at Stan Hywet. All volunteers are full of interesting info.
Good for all ages!

This is a must for anybody visiting Akron. The grounds are spectacular. The house is monumental. I like the tour inside the house. Lots to see. Everyone there is so nice too. Christmas here is like a postcard. Just beautiful.

A visit to Stan Hywet was our reason for coming to Akron & it more than lived up to our expectations. Beautifully preserved home & gardens that have all original furnishings. The tour guides for the home & gardens were both excellent & brought the history of the home & Seiberling family to life.

Stan Hywet was a beautiful estate that made a perfect weekend activity! We did the Grand Estate Tour and loved seeing all of the grounds and gardens in addition to the house. We went on a cool day so we lucked out but we were warned that the house can get incredibly warm during the summer. After our tour we ate lunch on the grounds and had free access to view the conservatory. Overall, we had a great time!

There happened to be an art fair the weekend we visited, so the garden was full and there were lots of people. We purchased the self guided tour of the house and it was good, although I think it would have been better on a different day with less people. The mansion is really grand and furnished like the people who lived there just left; the atmosphere was great and we learned a lot from reading information during the tour.

A fun place to visit with out of town family or friends. The gardens are always beautiful whether fall or summer. The tours are informative as well as the guides. A historic treasure in town.

As a friend of the original owner's great-grandson, I waited 30 years for the chance to visit Stan Hywet -- it was well worth the wait. Ive been to the grand estates of England and France, as well as toured those of America's elite -- Biltmore, The Breakers, San Simeon, Hillwood, Villa Vizcaya to name a few. The gardens and manor house at the Seiberling estate can hold their own against any of those. I took the Nooks & Crannies tour which was well worth the slightly higher additional fee. I got to see all the places you never get to see on historic house tours -- the attic, the eaves, the basement, the laundry room, boiler room, wine cellar, servants quarters, storage areas, etc., in addition to all the public areas of the house. It has been intact and has been beautifully maintained since it was donated by the Seiberling children to become a museum, intact with many of the personal affects of the Seiberling family -- clothes, photographs, even toiletries. Thanks to the detail of the house and the exhibits available about the Seiberling family and descendents, by the time I left, I felt like not only did I know about the family, I was part of it.

Came back to Akron to visit. Had to stop at Stan Hywet. It was always one of my favorite place when I lived here.

This place is amazing! Beautifully decorated in period furniture, etc. Our guide, Jeff, could not have been better. He knew everything about the place and the people who had lived here.

The first thing we leaned on our Christmas house tour is that wasn't a "Stan". The house belonged to the Seiberling family. They were co-founders in Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. We went to see the house & grounds decorated for Christmas. We were not disappointed. This place is amazing even without all the lights and decorations. We got their early. After a short wait, we made our way to the house. With a long line behind us, we really didn't have much time to admire the small details of the house construction. Would go again at a slower time to really get to see the fine details in the construction. Plenty of free parking.

I went here with one of my friends who highly recommended it as we both are history buffs. I had never heard of it until she told me about it. The hall and grounds are beautifully maintained and the house is enormous! I have never been in such a large building that served as a private home. We did the self guided tour which was a very reasonable price but you can also take a guided tour if you want more info as you go along. They give you a little book to guide you around the house and grounds and give you some background into each stop on the tour. Everyone was very friendly and eager to answer any questions we had. The gardens and flowers were gorgeous! They also give a college student discount which I thought was very nice. You could easily spend 3-4 hours here and not realize it. There is also a really cool greenhouse with all sorts of exotic plants and trees from around the world, many of which I’ve never seen before. Overall a great trip and not too far from home or hard to find. I would definitely go back and enjoy it all over again! It is a must see if you are anywhere near Akron!!

This place is well worth a visit. The house is beautiful and the gardens and grounds gorgeous. The staff was very friendly and well-informed. We took the self-guided tour but the docents were more than willing to talk and answer any questions we had. BUT - as another reviewer mentioned, DO NOT BUY TICKETS ONLINE IF YOU ARE A SENIOR. There is a substantial senior discount available but it is not available online - the website doesn't even mention it. We only found out about it when we arrived to check in and saw it posted there. And they will not refund the difference. Very poor business practice for sure and left us with a bad taste in our mouths.

DO NOT MISS THIS GEM.
What a beautifully maintained historic home and gardens. The history of the family is really interesting and to then tour the gardens as well as the house is just such a treat. Everyone there is so knowledgeable and friendly and you can even have a lunch on the grounds...it is one of the most beautiful gardens on a property I have seen.

Excellent place to take visitors; love the gardens in all seasons; the house is very impressive ( and I have traveled a lot and have been to many mansions). I am so proud to have this historical place in my neighborhood!

It was raining on the day of my visit and, although it wasn't heavy enough to keep me inside completely, I did not get to spend as much time exploring the grounds as I would have liked. The tour of the house was complete and very enjoyable. Educational, too.

5 of us took the guided tour of SH. Our guide was wonderful but seemed to be in a hurry to get us through. There is so much to see! The home is beautiful, not to mention the gardens. The history of the family is very very interesting and had hoped to hear more about them. The biggest complaint is that the self guided tour guests would interrupt our guided tour, tag along and most annoying, not watch their children. UGH. They self guided tours should be allowed at certain times or at the very least limited. Otherwise it's a magnificent place to visit.

Stan Hywet has perhaps the most extensive Christmas decorations of any historic house. They fill the mansion, line garden paths and vistas and unite outbuildings including a lovely greenhouse and carriage house. On busy holiday weekends, there can be a crush of visitors and lines to tour the mansion.
Although evening tours officially start at 5, they start letting people in a little before as soon as the house is set. I strongly suggest buying tickets on line in advance as you’ll skip the long ticket line and go directly to will call. Arrive at the parking lot by 4:30 and you will beat the crowds and get a great parking spot. Once you’ve gotten your tickets, go directly to the mansion as you’ll beat the crowds to get in. It probably takes a half hour to view the lavish decorations in the house if you really stop and take pictures of everything. When you finish touring the house, you can walk back to the carriage house courtyard to see the 5:30 tree lighting. There are so many people at the lighting that if you go to the house after that, you’ll wait a long time to get in. Instead, go around the back and start your walk around the grounds. The lights are truly magnificent but I do like doing this earlier rather than later as viewing in twilight still allows you to see the architecture of house and gardens.
I am a historic house aficionado and while the decorations overtake the house and grounds, the scale and level of imagination really enliven the house. If you’re trying to introduce very young kids to the museum experience, this is a great way to do it. For someone who came without kids and isn’t a Christmas diehard, this was really impressive. But go early and beat the crowds.

This place is a must see for everyone! The home is historical and beautiful with gardens to match! It will be decorated beautifully at Christmas!

We had never heard of it. I was in the scenic railway looking a brochures and saw that it was the 6th largest home in America. We backtracked to go there and it was worth every minute and dollar we spent. At my husband's urging we got the house and grounds tour which we appreciated. There were a few stops in the garden and a complete house tour. We lucked out that we were the only two on the tour that day so it was just for us. The house is amazing. They kept all the personal belongings so it's not just stuff from the same time period, it's their stuff. The house belongs to a cofounder of Goodyear with his brother. His brother's house is nearby but it's still a private home. I like the tree of life rug in the music room. I liked that there's a garden room and a more informal garden room. They had many kids but only one lived with the parents in that home. It's a lovely home. We enjoyed the kids garden too because we were surprised by the music and fountain. If you're in Akron, looking for something to do, this would be my recommendation.

The grounds and estate are some of the best in America. The relatively little known Seiberling family has had an impact creating a fantastic structure as well as making Akron formerly the rubber capital of the world by joining forces with Goodyear. And rather than joining the 'robber baron' mentality of their age they created an environment that helped not only their employees but the Akron area in general. Group tours are suggested if the attendance is large (if the parking lot is full, or buses abound, a self-guided tour may be problematic) but sufficient information is available to make a self-guided tour worthwhile. The staff is very well informed. If you plan to see the entire estate plan to spend at least three hours; the mansion is huge and the grounds go on forever.

We visit whenever we are near the area from Christmas to see the lights and decorated home, to spring for the spring garden to this summer where we found the conservatory with butterfly house. There are many different tours, I recommend always to go with a guide whether it is for the basic house tour, the grounds where you see the secret garden or back stage where you go to the attic and see where the Van Trap family stayed while visiting.

We took a guided tour and our tour guide was terrific, very knowledgeable. The 65 room mansion and grounds were meticulously attended to. We will definitely go back for one of the other tours provided

This is an amazing must see in Akron! Beautiful gardens and landscape, amazing architecture. Don't miss it!

When recently traveling to the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, my husband gave me the opportunity to find someplace in the area I would like to visit. I explored on Trip Advisor and found this gem. Having toured quite a few historical mansions in the past, this one also did not disappoint. My husband even enjoyed it the best of all those we have visited. The thing that makes his mansion more interesting is the breath and knowledge that was gained about the people who built and lived here. You could almost imagine them walking and playing in the halls along side you. We took two different tours - the main one and the behind the scenes tour (Nooks & Crannies"). Both were led by excellent docents. Our behind the scenes tour was only the tour guide and usI. It appears that all tours have a maximum of 15 people so there is plenty of time and opportunity for questions.
We booked both tours with about an hour in between to allow us to eat lunch on the grounds. After the second tour we took some time to walk some of the grounds and the beautiful gardens. You could spend hours among all of the plantings for sure. We did not take time to visit the conservatory.
The only negatives are that there is currently road construction in this area, making it somewhat difficult to get to. Also, if it has been very hot outside for any length of time I would forgo a visit because there it is not air conditioned. The day we were there it was pretty warm outside but the house itself was not hot. They do have fans in many areas to keep the air moving and make it cooler. There are also quite a few steps. As a double knee replacement patient, these type of things can sometimes be hard to maneuver, but I had no problem and therefore, would recommend it to even people with minor mobility issues. It should be noted there are no public elevators on the property though.
If you arrive on Tuesdays, there is a sr. discount with all tours half price. This makes this a fairly attractive time to go and it wasn't crowded.

Stan Hywet was the 65-room home of F. A. & Gertrude Seiberling from 1915-1955. The house is magnificent and the grounds are gorgeous with several gardens and both rolling meadows and dense forest areas. Playground areas are included for children. Many public events are held each year including Deck the Hall (Christmas lights & house decorations), Ohio Mart (juried vendors, food, drinks, sweepstakes gifts, and more), Father's Day Car Show, Founders' Day (Alcoholics Anonymous), and more. The estate features a historic 65-room Tudor Revival Manor House, Gothic Revival Conservatory, Gate Lodge (birthplace of Alcoholics Anonymous) and approximately 70 acres of artistically landscaped grounds and formal gardens. Both docent-guided and self-guided tours are offered daily in the Manor House and the gardens,.

Stan Hywet Hall is the most grand and fabulous home that I ever toured. The home is full of Artechture and detail, you must see it to believe it. Much of our great industrialist lived and had their industries here in North Eastern Ohio. Cleveland had Millionairs row in which only two houses still stand, and a total of only five buildings exist. Stan Hywet hall is one of the few insights in which you can tour today that show just how grand and how fabulous the homes of the richest people in the world owned and lived in the early 20th century. The Seiberlings seemed to be very nice, wonderful, and a non selfish family who didn't have their house burned down or torn down when they passed away. Stan Hywel Hall shows some different rooms depending on the season. Chistmas time is beautiful their, and they put up wonderful light display. The home and grounds in which the home sits on are so peaceful, and relalxing. It's a wonderful place to take a date. It's a very romantic place to go to and perfect for families as well.

you will not be disappointed in the tour. I am not sure what i like more , the grounds or the buildings.

Stan Hywet is an architectural, historical & gardening gem in Akron that should not be missed! Every season the venue offers a different delight for visitors: new floral arrangements in the extensive gardens, 1800’s baseball on the front lawn, yoga on the patio, butterflies in the conservatory, sound & light displays, Shakespeare on the patio, Holiday Lights and tours of the house & garden year round. We are so lucky to have such an awesome home in our backyard!! Not to be missed!!!

My husband and I spent a festive evening in December at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens. We had a fabulous dinner on the gardens, which included music provided by a small orchestra. After dinner we toured the beautifully decorated mansion. The mansion had many Christmas trees decorated in a variety of themes and styles. We ended the evening with a stroll through the property looking at the holiday lights and decorations.
We enjoyed our evening of partaking in the magical time that December brings. Very well worth the visit. Great way to kick off the holiday season.

I would start off by emphasizing how welcoming the staff were! Every single person we interacted with was lovely. We only paid for the self-guided tour, but the docents were happy to share anecdotes in each of the rooms as we passed through-very generous with their knowledge. I have toured other historical homes where I did not pay for a guided tour either and found the staff to completely ignore me. That is not the case at Stan Hywett!
So much of the manor is original. If you are a fan of tutor architecture, this is absolutely the place for you. The conservatory was pretty. PS the conservatory is an excellent place to use the restroom. The children’s garden was interactive and the English garden made me feel like I was in “The Secret Garden”. Unfortunately, the heat of the day got the better of us, so we did not tour the lagoon or the Japanese garden. I cannot wait to go back!
I also thought the prices in the gift shop were fair compared to other places I have been. I appreciate that they had smaller, affordable items for children. They also offered my child a scavenger hunt to do in the house and received a little prize for participating.

Beautifully preserved historic with the majority of the rooms open including living space, bedrooms, kitchen and indoor pool. Photos of the family and memorabilia to get a sense of how the family lived in the home. Would recommend a guided tour as there is a lot to learn about the house, it’s construction and the family. Gardens are well kept and extensive. Gatehouse includes restrooms, small cafe type restaurant, gift shop and a photo and video introduction to the house and family. A must visit if you are in the area or make it a side trip from the Cleveland area.

Amazing architecture set in the near west side of Akron. Hours can be spent viewing and walking the property

Visited this fine house. There are different tours offered. House is filled with antiques owned by the owners. The tour guide explained the homes history and facts about the owners and the time they lived in. After the house tour, there are several gardens to wander through. There are some very beautiful and interesting plants to look out. Plan to spend 2 or more hours here to view both house and gardens. Staff is friendly. A gift shop is also available as you leave.

This grand mansion cannot be missed if you are near Akron. Allow plenty of time to tour both the home and walk through the beautiful gardens and greenhouse. It is worth it to pay a little more for a guided-tour of the home, plus they offer a 50% discount for military. Our guide pointed out so many more things than we would have noticed or understood on our own. The Sieberlings were ahead of their time with modern conveniences installed into their home as it was built.

Amazing grounds and home. There is such a cool history to the house as well. Would be a great venue for a wedding

We had visited the house years ago (tours 11a-4p $19 including gardens, but worth it, amazing architectural features inside and out, themed rooms, 95% original furniture, but came last night for Shakespeare play. It is in the back by the lagoons (where the Seiberling family swam), beautiful venue also with rock features, and paths lit by lights. There are cafe tables and a snack bar (we had $5 wine and $2.25 big cookies). Stopped by the butterfly house and greenhouse on the way, but came too late to see house and garden this time. Plenty of parking. A lovely time.

The home is simply stunning chock full of beautiful woodwork and features. The grounds and gardens are lovely and extremely pleasurable to stroll through.

The Stan Hewett gardens are well worth the drive to see. They are groomed beautifully. Christmas is very special. The tour of the beautiful mansion is really nice. The wood work is beautiful.

We decided to finally go visit after living in the area a few years. We were not at all disappointed, the displays are definitely not to be taken lightly and to see all of the work put into this event makes you appreciate it even more.
For what you get the event is priced reasonably, parking is free and plentiful with free shuttles to the more remote lots. There is a gift shop with concessions at the main entry way, however they will not let you bring food or drinks into the house so be warned.

We spent a few days biking in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We had read an itinerary that suggested several stops along the canal towpath and the Stan Hywet Hall was one of the stops. We were discouraged by other bikers that it would be a long, difficult ride off the canal towpath. However, we found that the streets were bicycle friendly and the ride was VERY short, even though it was uphill.
The hall and gardens are beautifully maintained and all the volunteers are incredibly helpful and eager to share information about the hall and gardens. We opted for the self guided tour. We were told that the guided tour was about one hour; however, it seemed to be substantially longer. We started our self guided tour about the same time as a guided tour. On our own, it took about an hour to go through the hall. The guided group was not anywhere close to done as we exited the hall.
There is lots to see, so take your time. Don't miss the Japanese and English gardens.

This is a wonderful day walking the garden and viewing the house. A place that you can visit more than once if you want. Everyone is very nice and helpful.

We spent about three hours here; we really could’ve used another hour. We took the guided house tour. Our tour guide Dawn Marie was excellent; she was personable and humorous, and gave a lot of great information about the house, the family that build it, and insights about the Goodyear tire and rubber company (as the builder of the house was a cofounder of the Goodyear tire and rubber company.) We also happened to be blessed that a great-grandson of the builder of the house, who had been in the house as a child, was out from the northwest and was on our tour of the house. We found particularly interesting the family history, the 2700 square-foot room where musical recitals used to be given, the Plunge indoor pool, the interior design details, and the beautiful gardens.

This house was wonderful to tour the architecture was wonderful and the tour options were great we didn't know all of the three tour options. Self and a background tour. We did the self tour with the free booklet and that was more than sufficient versus paying more for a guided tour this way we could talk to each other throughout the manner this would be my suggestion versus being in a tour group. The day we were there it was a rainy cloudy day but none the less the gardens while being October we're very trimmed and beautiful we could walk some of the grounds they had umbrellas for those that ventured out into the rain the greenhouses were beautiful as well and several couples were having their wedding that Day celebrated there. Well the house is quite distinctive the Furnishings were a little bit left to be seen as far as the quality of them. Some of the pieces seemed rather cheap once you've been to many of the grand manners in Rhode Island or the Vanderbilt Estate. But for the couple it seemed fitting for the time. The gift shop is lovely which is in the horse stable and mini nice baubles can be found there along with a sandwich or a snack. Parking is free and it is adequate. Photos are allowed just no flash and no videos.

First, it is worth it to get a guided tour so you learn more about what you see. There are so many things to see from architecture to antiques to topiary and more. It is a place you should go multiple times just to fully understand and enjoy the experience. Having said that, walking kids under 10 for an hour with no breaks and very little to interest them makes it for a tougher tour even if they remain fairly good. Also Christmas is beautiful throughout the house.

My group was a total of 8 or 4 couples. The tour guide was nice enough to wait till everyone was there & checked in. We paid for the Grand Estate Tour which I think is worth it cause you get the grounds as well as the mansion. Our tour guide was very informative. The husbands didn't really enjoy this type of stuff so maybe save this for a girls day date?

Our grown children, my husband and I had a great time visiting this amazing place. We loved the butterfly exhibit and the grounds were astonishing! We had the Nooks and Cranny Tour which enabled use to see areas of the mansion not available on a self-guided tour. The house is beautiful and much of the furnishings are original to the home.
We would love to go back during Christmas to see how it's decorated.

I'm so glad I decided to include this hall and gardens in our vacation plans. The mansion it's self gives guided tours and there are self-guided tours available as well. My husband and I chose the self guided which worked out just fine since I have mobility issues. Docents are stationed throughout the mansion and explain each room or area of the house as you pass through. They also have many anecdotes to share about the family. For a time, we piggybacked a guided tour. We spent at least an hour in the home. My only issue was being told the family had installed the latest and greatest technology of the time, including three elevators. Apparently none of those elevators are available for guests. As is usual in historic homes I was granted the privilege of flipping through a book with photos of the upper floors. Aside from that I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Take the time to stroll through the back of the house and the gardens. Most of them are handicap accessible. There is also a greenhouse on the way back to the visitor center. There is plenty of parking. It does get quite busy on weekends as they host weddings.

If you're interested in the history of Goodyear Tires, this is a fantastic place to go, The gardens were beautiful. definitely worth a trip with family. The only disappointment was the food, only a small order at the counter, small sandwiches, limited selection, pricey. Visit the website for more info on tickets for 2 adults we paid $56 for nooks and crannies tour(you have a tour guide for this), it also gives you full access to the house and grounds, self-guided.

We really enjoyed the self guided tour of the mansion and property. Interesting history and a real treasure in Ohio. I would go back again.

My mom and I did the self-guided tour which was great! There were so many staff members around to ask questions and give additional information about the house and grounds. It was really interesting. We spent about 2.5hrs there but you could easily spend more time for more pictures, admiring more of the garden, play area, or walking the perimeter. Would love to see it at different times of year.

We picked the peak time for iris and peony and baptisma. The colors are fabulous from pinks, and gold to rich purple and red. There is also a rose garden and Japanese garden to walk through along with a house which is designed like an English manor home with stained glass windows, carved woodwork, and a great room so large they had a pony inside. The history of the family is as beautiful as this home. We have taken several tours including the nooks and crannies and learn something new each time.

My husband and I wanted to get into the Christmas spirit so we went and visited Stan Hywet Hall. We arrived about 4:00 and toured the house which is absolutely beautiful and decorated so festive for Christmas. We also liked that the furniture in the house was the original furniture that the Seiberling family had when they lived there. The house was very large (they advertise it as the 6th largest residence in the United States) but it was very comfortable and homey feeling. We have visited the Biltmore and while that house is very beautiful it is too over the top for us~we never felt like we could have lived there where we did get that feeling with Stan Hywet. Then as it got dark we walked outside and walked the property and viewed all the lights which were really nice. We also went into the gardens which had lots of poinsettias and Christmas flowers mixed in with lots of other plants. There were some water features also which were nice. We ended up visiting the gift shop at the end. We really enjoyed our trip there.

This Tudor Revival mansion and its grounds are a national treasure. You have to see them to believe the craftmanship, the opulence, and the beauty. We planned to spend only about three hours here and it was not enough - we hope to return and spend an entire day here so we can leisurely explore everything. Many thanks to Jerry for an excellent tour of the mansion. Note: There is no air conditioning in the mansion, so you may not want to tour on a hot day. Also, the mansion tour involves stairs and is not handicapped-accessible.

This house is amazing! With a student discount the price is cut in half. I wanted to go on the nooks and crannies tour, but we ended up taking the self guided tour. It's amazing to see hoe the rich lived in the area where I grew up! A lot of cool stories within the house, and in the basement there's a small history of Akron, including AA. The gift shop has a lot of fine art and a small cafe. We went in the winter so the gardens were not really viewable, I would suggest going in the spring summer when you can see all the gardens. They also have a lot of events for just about anyone.

Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is the former estate of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Over 90% of the Museum Collection located in the Manor House is original to Stan Hywet Hall and the Seiberling family. We went on the Nooks and Crannies Tour of this Tudor Revival mansion. The home and contents are well preserved, perfect for a history enthusiast! The tour guide was excellent, truly a must see.

There is a reason this place gets 5 Stars from everyone. Where to start: Thomas gave us the best tour ever. Loved his knowledge & passion for sharing history. We literally explored every corner & unique room in the house. Wow! The amount of money spent to live in luxury back in the day was mindblowing.

Step back in time and see how the captains of industry lived and played. Wonderful gardens to walk around.

When our daughter was in High School she gave tours of Stan Hywet. . To this day it remains a treasure of our city.

We arrived on a chilly November day as the Hall was being decorated for the upcoming "Deck the Hall" season. Even with that the self-guided tour was extremely interesting. The docents were knowledgeable and accommodating. We enjoyed the meticulously kept conservatory as well with its numerous miniature fruit trees and tropical plants. The visit was wonderful but would have been outstanding with a guided tour.

There were 4 adults and four children in our party. We did the self tour. They give you a book to follow and the path of the tour was very easy to follow The kids loved the Mansion and were very interested in times gone by. Ages11,10,8,7 They said it was really cool to see all the furniture and the way they lived back then. The adults were just as impressed. There are many steps at times and you take turns looking into some of the rooms. The gardens were just beautiful. We saw the Butterfly house and feed them too. There is a cool children's play area. There is a patio you can sit on and visit the gift shop. I, WE highly recommend this place for everyone.

Stan Hywet is one of my favorite places on the planet. Every time I come, I find something different to love. From the history or the decor.

Spectacular is only one of many superlatives for this amazing estate. Visit with your mom on Mother's Day, with your kids and Dad on Father's Day for the Car Show, in the Fall for the Craft Fair, or any time-to enjoy the gardens and the beauty of the age-old graceful home. I have visited about six or seven times and would go six or seven more. Hope you make it too. Enjoy!

A magnificently maintained stately home that was loved and lived in. It's on the National Registry of historic. Beautiful gardens. A great place to go and take the family for a little history. If you've got the time and the stamina I recommend the nooks and crannies tour. I love this place period I'm so lucky to live near to it so I try and go at least once a year period Christmas time is absolutely out standing comma so festive

I wish we'd had more time, but our walk through the gardens and conservatory was fantastic. Don't miss the Japanese Garden!

Bought the “self-guided tour” but were accosted by staff wanting to share information without being asked at just about every turn.

A beautiful place to visit any time of the year but I especially love going to the Ohio Mart in the Fall & going at Christmas...the mansion and grounds are decorated so beautifully!

Gardens were plentiful. I especially like the theme gardens; the secret garden and the Japanese garden.
Make sure you tour the house. It’s lovely.

I visited the Hall on a recent trip to Akron. I had a morning free, and saw it was the #1 attraction on trip advisor. I went on a guided tour, which was excellent. I think it lasted about 90 minutes. We did not get to see all of the house, but saw a lot of it. Our guide said the house has about 95% of its original furnishings, and it really is spectacular. I was visiting in November, so the gardens were not in good form, but I would enjoy coming back to see them if the opportunity presents itself.

They have a lot of cool gifts and crafts...also good food ,wine, and beer
Have gone around Christmas time also tour of house and the light displays we're awsome

I’ve been to Stan Hywet more times than I can count! There’s always something new to learn, and it’s always beautiful. It’s a perfect place to take guests from out of town.

I went here while visiting a friend in Akron. Stan Hywet has beautiful gardens - really beautiful - on it's huge property - with many different kinds of gardens. We took a guided tour of the house. The guide gave us a great tour and told us so much interesting information about the house & family! The guide was very good about answering all our questions. It is a beautiful house inside that rivals all the great homes in England - very similar to the Biltmore house. I very much enjoyed seeing this historic house & gardens once owned by the man who started Goodyear.

Beautiful house. Lived in by the co-founder of Goodyear tirre. F.A. Seiberlie. It is a gorgeous home with an indoor pool and over 65,000sqft. We took the self guided tour to save a little time and it was great. Lovely gardens, a really spectacular place. New roof replacement they just did cost 3 million! Fascinating home with lots of original furniture.

This 70 acre estate is unbelievable from the manor to the gardens, it is so beautiful. The wood paneled walls must have been hand carved and they are gorgeous. It is hard to believe the founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber, F.A. Sieberling lived there with his family for 40 years and then walked out leaving all of the furnishings in the home with the intent for it to be a museum. I would suggest taking the self guided tour as you can spend as much time as you want. They allow photography, but no flash pictures. Most of mine came out without the flash. I would definitely go back

It’s been 30 years since I lasted visited and the home and gardens have been maintained. I visited during Deck the Halls. The lighting displays were amazing and had corresponding music. The home had only certain rooms open to tour with a mix of modern and historic themed trees/displays. The details in the structure are amazing. Why did I stay away for so long?

It is the prettiest in warm weather when all the flowers are in bloom. It is a picture all it's own.. I could go any season to see the grounds and what is blooming, just can't say enough about the gardens.

MOLDY Lovely place but we noted a musty smell upon arrival in the house. After 1 1/2 hrs we both were seriously allergic, ill & left.

We arrived early and decided to tour the gardens before it got too hot. There was a lot of variation in the flora and styles of garden which added to the interest while walking around. A lot of the walk is on flagstones so a little care is required. The butterfly house was just being set up so there were no butterflies for us. On to the house which was fascinating. Each room had someone who could give a lot of additional information to expand on what you saw. This was a great way to spend 2-3 hours.

Very beautiful and well preserved. We went on a self guided tour and there was a guide at every point of the house, each one knowledgeable and willing to tell us about the history of the house. What a house it was! The rooms were as original as they could be, arranged just as they would have been back when the Seiberlings lived there. Since it was April, the gardens weren't quite in full bloom, but I'm sure that when they are they look gorgeous!

I've visited Stan Hywett numerous times and always see something new upon every visit. The grounds are my favorite part to tour. The English garden is gorgeous and so tranquil. Spring is a great time to visit with all the tulips, azaleas and rhododendruns in bloom. There are Shakespeare outdoor plays in the summertime that are a lot of fun! The tudor house is a must-see as well. All in all, a great way to spend a day!

We walked through the grounds with friends (lots of small children) and enjoyed the scenery. Many areas to view that offer conversation starters and learning experiences for little ones in a gorgeous setting. Kids loved the play area at the end with the sand. The water feature looked fun and was really cute but we didn’t use it during this visit.

Very beautiful manor, maintained as is with the furniture and fittings of the owners.
The different parks around are also to be discovered

This former home of the Seiberling family is just as they left it when they moved out. They left all their personal belongings and they have been carefully maintained by the Stan Hywet men and women. There is a lot of walking involved both inside and out. The grounds are beautiful with 5 different gardens/ponds, trees galore. I have visited 8-10 times and find new things every time. PLEASE take the time to see this piece of history!!

Having seen a sign advertising Stan Hywet Hall on a past drive through Akron, we decided to return to see the mansion and grounds when the gardens would be in bloom. The tour of the estate and gardens was nearly three hours and chock full of information about the property and the Sieberling family. Many thanks to our guide Scott who was informative and entertaining. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Don't forget to stop in the cute gift shop too!

We went to Stan Hywet on a rainy day and started with the tour of the house. It was the first time there for all but 2 in our party. It was a self guided tour but the signs made it easy to see everything and still social distance. There were a few guides throughout to answer questions and explain. I think the guided tour when COVID 19 is over would be even better. There were some interesting technologies and it was beautiful and educational. Allow about 45 minutes for the house, add another hour or so for the grounds. We missed quite a bit due to rain. There was also a wedding and we did not want to interfere with the photos. The butterfly home was good and the gardens were beautiful. I noticed you can bring your dog on Sundays and hang out in the gardens but we were heading home and couldn’t work that in.

A lot of beautiful acres, Takes you back to the way this land was years ago. Waterfalls and gardens are wonderful, The Home is just stunning you just get lost in the wonderment of that time.

Love all the rooms and the "modern" converniences of the day. The huge ballroom where they entertained. The sleeping porches. etc. Love the grounds absolutely beautiful. A place to dream about - so easy to place the family here in my mind. The volunteer guides give a very knowleadgeable tour. Exceptional.

The grounds are expansive and lovely. This review will be specifically for the Christmas lights winter display. They only let so many in each day so make sure you have your tickets a few weeks in advance. It’s best to get there before 5:15 pm in order to beat the rush and find parking. You will wait in line to be ushered through the house but it’s a nice a tour. Each room had a different Christmas movie theme. The outside and greenhouse were also nicely decorated. I would really like to see the house when it’s not decorated for Christmas but it was really to cool see it aland the good year story. It took us about 2 hours to get through it all.

This was such a neat place to visit. The young man that gave us the tour was new at the job but was so knowledgable!!! Beautiful house and gardens. The only thing I would say as a "negative" is the entrance to the place is not obvious if you have never been in the area. Of course, once you know where it is, it is hard to miss after, but not clearly marked. (It is at an intersection at an angle, just where you WOULD NOT expect it to be). I drove by it a few times before I saw it. LOL But other than that, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it.

My buddy had done some research and wanted to visit the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens on his birthday, so we did just that. I did not know what to expect; I was just happily letting my friend do whatever he wanted to on his special day.
We absolutely LOVED the visit. Each and every staff member we talked to were knowledgeable and very nice.
The grounds are just amazing. We had tickets for a guided tour and we had about an hour to kill beforehand. We spent that time walking around the outside of the house. We spent time walking around the Plane Tree Allee, the English Garden, the West Overlook, the Japanese Garden, the Half Moon Bridge, and the Lagoon.
Then we did the in-house tour and it was so informative. Of the 65 rooms in the house, the tour took us through about half of them.
I highly recommend paying this place a visit. I know we will be returning soon.

our area is so lucky to have this jewel in our city ... this mansion is historic, beautiful & filled with the original furnishings. The grounds are just gorgeous and very well maintained. The top tourists attraction in the Akron area, besides LeBron James...lol. A must see.

You have to go back for every season. Things change & the gardens are so pretty seeing them in the different seasons. Took the tour & was so amazed at how lavish it was for the time.

We happened on this wonderful estate when we stayed in Akron Ohio. Must see for architectural minded folks. Historic 65-room Tudor Revival manor home of F.A. Seiberling who co-founded the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. 70 acres of landscaped gardens. Guided tour is best, but self-guided is do-able since they have staff in most rooms or hallways that one can ask questions. They are eager to share their knowledge and often start a conversation without prompting.

We enjoyed ourselves so much the first day touring the manor, that we came back the second day to walk the gardens. We spent time relaxing and soaking up sunshine walking through the meditation gardens. This was just a lovely experience

Wonderful home tour. It is self-guided only, due to the coronavirus. I really wanted to do the nook and crannies tour, but will have to wait for more normal times. Everyone was very courteous of each other – kept their distance and the staff was fantastic. The family was so generous donating the home with the existing furnishings – that does not always happen with historic buildings. Beautiful Tudor architectural elements. The grounds were the best part of the visit, during this time. There were not a lot of people, so you could really enjoy the peace of the grounds. I am a birdwatcher and enjoyed birding during my visit. They have a picture scavenger hunt for kids, so it keeps them engaged – brilliant. The best thing I have done in Akron.

Great place for the money. Great tour guide and at night the lights are beautiful. Children younger than 9 may be bored, but older ones should find this interesting. Read up before you go.

Magnificent gardens are my favorite but the mansion is wonderful. No A/C. Great guides. I'll revisit

Three hours here at the end of a bus tour -- with a great guide in the house. Too tired to enjoy the gardens.

We've lived here for 17 years and this was the first time we have visited Stan Hywet for their holiday lights. What a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit! The Manor is incredible in how it is decorated and we heard numerous people comment how nice it was that local garden clubs and greenhouses participated in themed rooms. I spent most of the time just thinking how this family lived in this mansion and the entertaining that must have occurred. The line can be long to get into the manor - especially early. But we noticed later (around 7:30p) it was less than half what it was at 6:00.
I recommend you buy tickets on line. You get to go to the Will Call window and not wait in a very long and cold line waiting to buy tickets. Was well worth the 5 minutes it took to find it on line in the comfort of my living room.
Go enjoy and have a gingerbread cookie (or 2). You'll be glad you did! It really got us in the Christmas mood.

I absolutely LOVE Stan Hywet! The gorgeous architecture and grounds! The furnishings are magnificent. The beautiful Christmas decorations and lights take it to a new level. I normally really enjoy the Christmas decorations but I would've given it a 5 star review had someone not decided to go with a Marvel Comic theme. It feels so wrong to see the magnificent furnishings next to a Joker character! I want to see decorations of the period as though I am transported back to that point in time. That being said, it is so worth it to see Stan Hywet whenever you can for its beauty and history!

This place is sooo pretty...but you will miss knowing all the little tidbits about it if you do the self guided tour. I suggest doing the tour, and learning all the little bits about the house and gardens!! It is beautiful!! Maybe plan 2-3 hours for the tour, then walk the gardens, and just take time to look at some of your favorite places again, like the kitchen for me! I also liked the one hall where the wind would blow in and just cool down the area, the rockers were on the porch, and the guests could just sit there and enjoy the rockers, smell from the kitchen and overlook the gardens. The windows decor, furniture are all so beyond pretty!! Lots of steps, but if you have trouble walking you can stay on the one floor and wait for the others to go upstairs and come back down.

Walking the grounds and touring this house is an incredibly unique experience. The home is beautiful and the grounds are gorgeous. Travel here during the winter to view the Christmas lights and the décor. You won't be disappointed. The summer with the flowers blooming is also another wonderful time.

I got my first peek at Stan Hywet when I was a child. We drove by it on the way to Grandma & Grandpa's. It seemed slightly scary & was a little run down by then. Later it was taken over by the Foundation & I remember going there for Easter egg hunts. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the home. I have been there many times over the years & it never fails to astonish me...The grandeur, the grounds, the eye-popping rooms of the home, the stories of the Seiberlings, the thought that one family could have accumulated enough wealth to build something like Stan Hywet...It's all astonishing.

The estate of the founder of Goodyear Tires and subsequently, Sieberling Tires, Extensive gardens including Japanese, English, Birch Alee, Teahouse, conservatory, formal reflecting pools, Breakfast Garden and rolling lawn are a gardeners delight. The mansion is beautifully kept and maintained and the tour is extremely interesting and thoughout. Special events for Holdays and millions of lights for evening tours. Murder mystery dinner in the mansion in October is a thrill. We spent 4 hours here and it was not too much!

Since everybody is focusing on the mansion and gardens, I will add a few words about the playground! It's the place where we spend most time anyway! If you travel with a stroller, and think that the house is not for you...think again! There is an absolutely amazing spot for the little ones! With my very favorite bubble fountain that plays the music and shoots out the bubbles!

What a beautiful place to visit, especially at Christmas. They outdid themselves with their light display, gingerbread land, authentic Santa Clause and homemade gingerbread cookies for sale. The mansion was also beautifully decorated for Christmas and it's a beautiful historical place to see. You can also see their beautiful poinsettia display in the conservatory.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is a quite lovely property built back in the early years of Akron's history. Today the ground and manor house are open to tours featuring a glimpse in times past that will transport you. What is even better is when you can visit during one of the great festivals they host there like the upcoming fall harvest festival.

This was fabulous!!! I just love Stan Hywet, and I found out I love it even more when the grounds are lit up! We started with a tour of the house (included in light nights ticket price). My sister hadn't been there in years and had forgotten how amazing it was. After that we walked the grounds and enjoyed the lights. We grabbed a glass of wine from the carriage house and meandered thru the gardens. The 8 minute movie on the back of the house was incredible. How do they do that?! This is a must see.

The estate was built between 1912 and 1915 for F. A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The long, sprawling Manor House encompasses 64,500 square feet (5,990 m2) and includes four floors and a lower level (basement). I took the Nooks & Crannies tour and there is a lot of stairs and climbing and can be strenuous if you are not in shape. If you take the Regualr Guided Manor House tour you will see some of the same rooms and enjoy just as much. I took both tours and highly recommend. If you visit one place in Akron, this should be it.

We did a manor tour and loved it. Very interesting and lots of great information. We had two teenagers with and they liked it as well. Fun to imagine what it was like a hundred years ago when fully operating as a large household. The grounds and gardens were beautiful as well. Actually even a little surprised at how well everyone liked it. A fun unique experience especially if you love history. Would not reccomend for younger kids as they might get bored. A lot of walking, stairs and no touching. But for everyone else you need to check this out. We want to come back sometime for nooks and crannies tour.

We visited on 28 Aug. Had friends visiting from England. We were all very impressed with the the manor and gardens. We took the self-guided tour. There were staff throughout to answer any questions you may have.
The manor was very impressive, and had lots of rooms on display. There were two floors and a basement level that we toured.
Lots of gardens, and the Japanese garden was my favorite of all the gardens we saw. There were a number of gardens that we did not see.
There is a cafe and gift shop just outside of the manor, called Mollys Cafe. They have lots of drink choices, and a small menu with food items.
We visited the Butterfly House, and was interesting and educational, and recommend visiting when it's open.
Restrooms are located in the Manor House.
Ample parking and it's free.
There are various ticket prices depending on weather you want a guided or self-guided tour. Senior discounts also available.
Photography is permitted, but NO flash photography in the manor house.

The home of the Siberling Family is larger than the White House! It has an indoor pool and many of it's original furnishings. The Craftsmanship in the carvings, tapestries, light fixtures etc. are remarkable. The Grounds and gardens are so peaceful. At Christmastime, the house is decorated and holiday lighting is on the house and grounds.

One of the most beautiful and largest mansions in the USA. This was our second visit and had the opportunity to choose the Nooks and Crannies Tour. In April, bring non-perishable food for the food pantry and your tickets are half price. This was an awesome, behind-th-scenes look at an extradinary house. Definitely worth the 3-hour drive from home. You won't be disappointed. Check website for days open and tour times.

Always love visiting during the summer garden time but Christmas time is equally as enchanting! Can’t wait for this years “super hero” Christmas theme!

Just Do it. You will not be disappointed. If strapped for time at least do a quick tour of the gardens and outside. Inside is fantastic and full of stories. Check for special events, Christmas, light shows or even plays in the gardens. But do see it.

We were a group of 4 adults. I've been to Biltmore and the Hearst Castle, and this was better. We did the self-guided tour. I could not believe how much of the house is open to the public. I'm sure a guided tour would be great, but what we did was fantastic. There were docents around to answer questions. The grounds are beautiful. We spent about two hours, but could have stayed longer. A place I'd want to visit again.

Very interesting buildings and history of the estate. Extensive very well kept gardens and grounds also certainly worth a visit if in the area.

This is one of the most amazing homes that I have had the pleasure of touring! The Guided Manor House Tour lasts about 1 1/2 hours, and it is a really comprehensive tour. Most historic home tours only allow visitors to see the main rooms on the first floor. That's not the case here. Visitors are given access to the full house. Our tour guide was really good, and it was obvious that he really enjoys what he does. The Grounds include fountains, waterfalls, ponds, statues, and beautiful artwork. Be sure to stop at Molly's Café for their delicious quiche and soup! This is a must see, and I highly recommend a visit!!!

This home is an amazing journey back into old Akron. The history of this home and the grounds are beautiful. They have several different events throughout the year, and seasonal visits that are fun. The lights at Christmas and Ohio Mart are favorites! But the summer play series if worth a look as well!

Just visited on a rainy fall day during Ohio Mart 2017 (will do a separate posting on that). What a spectacular place, a bit of Newport estates meets Hearst Castle, in Akron no less. Beautifully preserved and restored, lovely grounds, well managed and very knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. I plan in visiting again when I am in the area, only wish I could see the " Deck the Halls" event for the holidays!

If you haven’t been here in a while, I strongly recommend another visit. Tour the mansion. Over the years, they have poured a lot of money and work into this place. The grounds are breathtaking and they host many worthwhile events. Plan to do a lot of walking, it’s worth it!

I was a volunteer at Stan Hywet Hall many years ago when we lived in Akron, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I looked at the site to see if it had changed, and it looks even nicer than I remembered. Did not visit on date shown.

What a beautiful home!! The guides have so much information about this Tudor-styled home to share with visitors and they make visitors feel just as welcome as the Seiberlings did 100 years ago. The den of Frank Seiberling is a mancave most men would envy. There's a gym in the basement with a basketball floor as well as an indoor swimming pool. Each room has a story and is interesting. The grounds, gardens, and greenhouse are amazing.

What another wonderful Christmas Lighting display put on by the outstanding team at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. The manor house and grounds were spectacular and a beautiful sight to experience. If you live in Summit, Portage or Cuyahoga Counties you have no excuse not to come and enjoy this event.

Annual trip with the family during the holidays. Different theme each year along with hot cocoa stand.

This is one of the great private homes in the USA available for viewing. The Seiberling family is known for founding Goodyear Tire & Rubber. A philanthropic family who generously supported their community and country.

My husband and I along with 3 other couples toured this beautiful home which took almost 3 hours with a guide.
The home was completed in 1915 and has 65 rooms. The dining room is large enough to sit 40 people.
In some ways the home reminded me of the Biltmore Estate in NC, but a lot more homey, and is on a much, much smaller scale. There is also a pool (the Plunge) in the basement.
It was well worth spending the time here.

I've done the Guided Manor Tour, Nooks & Crannies Tour and Self-Guided Manor Tour. I really like the Nooks & Crannies tour the best. It's an interesting house to walk through. The Seiberling family toured England before building the house and built in their favorite parts of historic homes they saw there. Thus, the architecture in the house spans a few hundred years even though the house was built in one fell swoop. Make sure you have enough time to visit the gardens. They're gorgeous! And, if you go at the right time of the year, it will be when they're having their plant sale from plants they split out of their gardens.

A real gem in Akron, Ohio!
Historically fascinating as well as a horticultural masterpiece.
Been there twice this year (early Spring and just last week) and not disappointed!
Grounds are spectacular.
Time well spent.

They do not answer cordial email with serious questions. Sent email during their open season, waited 1 week for response followed it up with another email from another email address, included original email and email addresses. Still no response two weeks later. Even included the director, and no response. I cannot recommend them ever again.

Our daughter worked here in the mid 1980's as a tour guide. She fell in love with this lovely property. A beautiful landmark here in Akron. Any holiday here is breath taking. Summer months they host fairs on the lawn. Father's Day they host a Vintage Car Day.So many chances to take in this Akron Beauty

My last visit to Stan Hywet was in the 1980's. Had an opportunity to be back in Akron and decided that it was past time to return. Christmas is a perfect time to visit.
Not only is the home beautiful and the decorations are fantastic, but the home is filled with family furnishings. Family photos in the rooms give a fascinating look into family life.
My wife had never been here and wants to come back in the spring to see the gardens and the house without the extra decorations. She has been to the Biltmore and said this was definitely on par with that experience and even superior in many ways.

Very nice place to visit flash back to past would have been a very nice place to live couldn't imagine having all that space to roam around

We went to visit with my father-out-law who lives in Akron. It was a great visit. The house is a walk back in time. Not only is it a lovely house and garden, it's amazing to see that the owners were serious about looking after their workers and seriously contributed to the war efforts.
We visited on a beautiful spring day. We didn't opt for any of the tours because the outlaws knew the place pretty well. The house took about an hour or more, and the gardens was about the same. I'm told they do an annual Shakespeare play in summer which is a must-do.
Overall I believe this is well worth the $15 entry fee per person.

Ugh, I should have done my research! I knew there would be holiday decorations, but I had no idea that the home and its beautiful architecture, artwork, and furnishings would be completely hidden behind over the top Harry Potter, Grinch, Christmas Story and Hallmark Christmas movie displays. Tacky and disappointing. We were in an out in 25 minutes.

Enjoyed a leisurely visit with my son, as there was a lot to see. He had loads of fun in the children's area, and it allowed me a place to relax as he played. We had previously been for the Christmas lights and it was great then too. A very great place to visit.

This was the home of one of the co-founders of Goodyear TIres and was built in the Tudor English style. Huge place to visit... while you can do a self-guided tour, I suggest taking a guided tour. Our guide shared all sorts of tidbits about the family and the home. The gardens were spectacular when we visited in September ... also went to the evening light show - about 15 minutes long.

My wife & I love coming here every year. The home represents the best of the classic millionaire homes. And every fall there have a huge craft festival on their grounds.

A wonderful restoration job has been done here, and all the interior furnishings are owned by the family that owned Stan Hywett. Gardens are gorgeous. This is a real treasure.

Beautiful gardens and grounds. What a magnificent main house. So lovely to see but I adore the main house at Christmas.

The stan Hywet hall and gardens were a lovely glimpse into the past. The house had many interesting rooms each of which seemed individual from the rest. Many details to observe! The gardens were also lovely. I especially enjoyed the Japanese gardens and the conservatory. Well worth the visit!

Whether a show, a stroll or decorated for Christmas, there is never a bad time to see this beautiful place! The property is worth the stroll.

I found this looking for something to do on the day we had a flight out. I wish we had more time to explore. The gardens are beautiful. We toured the 65,000 square foot Tudor style home. It was built by one of the founders of Goodyear in the early 1900s. If you visit in the hot summer be warned that the home is not air conditioned. We had a mild June day to tour it. We took a guided tour. There are other tours including self guided available. I highly recommend this site if you enjoy beautiful gardens and historic homes.

Stan Hywet is a really nice place to tour, both inside the home and in the gardens and greenhouse. It was the home of the Seiberling Family who was an important part of making Akron the Rubber Capitol. It's very elegant and beautiful, and a wonderful place to visit if you enjoy museums and stately, historic homes. The gardens are gorgeous, and they have special events throughout the year that are fun to attend (though I think some of them are a bit pricey).

Stan Hywet is a magnificent early 20th century beautifully crafted house with amazing history. The Christmas decorations were contemporary in nature and reflected a complete lack of regard for what Stan Hywet is. It is not a Disney entertainment space and should not have cartoon characters as part of its decor for Christmas. The house tour was disappointing because all the grand iconic spaces where they celebrated were covered with too much stuff.
The grounds were lit with lovely lighting, which would not have been present in 1915, but they were not over done as the interior was.

The house was gorgeous. There were 2 weddings on the day we were there, so it was a little cumbersome. The little food mart didn't have much in the way of choices, but the shop was nice and fun stuff. Eat first!

I hadn't heard of this place before exploring a trip to Akron, but having seen it I can't fail to recommend making a trip to take the tour and wander the grounds. The house is a wonder of innovations. It is smaller than Biltmore (America's largest home) but has similar "bells and whistles." In fact it almost felt cosy by comparison. But a home with a huge indoor pool and so many rooms, nooks and crannies can probably never be cosy. Based upon the information given during the tour Mr. Seiberling was a "politician". He knew how to manipulate and pull strings so people would be thankful and indebted to him for his generosity. He was a successful person and had plenty of income with which to provide for himself as well as others. The tour guide was much more appreciative of Mr. Seiberling's generosity than suspiciious of his motivations but there was more information available in a section of the home that described Seiberling in more realistic terms. The guide was entertaining and superficially knowledgeable, but there were some basic questions that seemed to stump him, like where the electric power came from. This house was remote and not in town when it was built.
The conservatory was abundantly populated with beautful plants . Outdoors, the gardens have been maintained perfectly with plenty of colorful flowers. Free parking is right next to the entry. A self guided tour is offered. Guided tours have scheduled admittance times.

What a wonderful experience, from reception to cafe and shoppe. Tour guide Jay Jay was informative, friendly and helpful. She really likes what she does. It was a hot day but with fans going throughout the house not stifling at all. Gardens were amazing. Butterfly house attendants were engaging and informative. A must see if you are in the area. A definite day trip or intended overnight stay just to see this amazing piece of history.

My wife and I spent the day here. We had never heard of this place and cannot believe it isn’t more well known. 65000 sqft house (6th largest in the US), 65 rooms and lots of themed gardens. 97% of the original furnishings and personal goods are on display because the heirs of the founder of Goodyear donated it fully furnished. We took the 2+ hour house and grounds tour and recommend it highly. Dawn was a great tor guide. The tour flies by so we suggest that you spend time before or after your tour to get garden and inside photos.

Supporting over a million lights the holiday light show brings old world wealth and today's computing skills together. Be sure to see the Drizzle light show set to Music. Tip take in the mansion tour 1st to skip the long lines at the end of the evening. Also I did see people struggling with strollers a time or two. Remember this mansion was built in 1908 so stairways are narrow. That said, while this mansion was built in the early 1900s it was one of the 1st homes in Northern Ohio with electricity and public water.
Enjoy

Gardens and home are lovely. Please, do not plan a wedding here! It is expensive, terrible communications with arrogant wedding planners, poor conditions available to wedding party prior to wedding ceremony. The reception hall is in basement of mansion, very dark and dingy, without windows. Without going into detail, three months before my son's wedding, the planner sent an email letting them know, the venue could not accomdate the invited guests....a situation they had known about for a year and neglected to inform bride and groom. For an ADDITIONAL $15,000, the couple could have an outdoor reception, price not including caterer, tables, chairs, port-a-johns,bar, etc. Very disappointing. The only positive comment I can make is the wedding pictures will be beautiful. Cascade to Greystone Hall, it is lovely there.
MOG (Mother of Groom)

First of this the best site in Akron. Second it is the Versailles of Ohio . Second the house 🏠 like an English manor house 🏠. Third it has great gardens. Lastly, I could go back again.

Fantastic decorations in the Christmas. It is the house of the family who founded the famous GoodYear tire company. the house is 102 year old and full of personal belongings of the family. really awesome.

I took friends who were specifically interested in the Gate Lodge for a visit. They loved seeing it & we decided to take the self tour of the estate & gardens. The house is amazing but the gardens are truly spectacular right now. Wow!

Took the garden and mansion tour. A lot of walking and not very handicapped accessible but a beautiful place to visit. The mansion has 62 rooms with about 30 accessible to view. Most of the furnishings are original to the mansion. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, well worth the cost of the tour. We hope to visit during the holiday season.

Beautiful venue for the Ohio Region Classic Car Club of America Father’s Day Car Show. The property is very well maintained and the flower gardens are beautiful. Visited the newer butterfly exhibits. Very interesting.
The mansion is amazing reflecting authentic era furnishings. It amazing to see this mansion and property and realize it is from a time of another generation.
You can spend a day walking through the gardens with a walk through the mansion.

Located in West Akron , this historical mansion and gardens is a must see in the area. It is tutor style and was built by a prominent family in the area many years ago. No expense was spared in the furnishing of this home including tapestries and suits of armor, stained glass windows etc. The gardens are just as impressive as the house..

Beautiful back to 1912 history era. The house is so historical and rich in history for that time period. The interesting facts of the family will hold your interest. The Seiberling family and the start of Goodyear Rubber.

I just love visiting this estate from an era long gone. Once the home of one of the co-founder's of GoodYear Tire & Rubber - this home and estate has it all.
Classic "library" with wood panels. Decorated in period style furniture, accents, rugs - all of it - almost like you've walked back in time. The "great hall", the "plunge" (code word for the indoor pool), lead pane windows, decorative trim outside - and MUCH MUCH more.
For me - the walking tour without the guide was perfect. Could linger where I wanted and visit briefly areas where no more than a quick view was needed. Plan to go on a pleasant day (ie: no rain, snow) so that you can walk the grounds and gardens. My visit was just last weekend and it was perfect. The gardens are in bloom. Colors were vibrant and bold. On my next visit - I think I will add the nooks and crannies tour.
My visit was on the weekend and there were a few weddings throughout - but none were "stopping" or re-directed me away from the key areas of the estate. If anything, I am sure that I ended up in just a few photos as "that lady in the background" (sorry about that - did my best to stay out of camera view)
It is also a "glimpse" into the world most of us never see - large estate, attention to detail where money was not a concern - both inside and out. As I understand the history of the family - they were very generous and community focused. Making the visit all that much more special.
Expect to see water features, well planned gardens (the Japanese Garden is my favorite) - It is worth checking out their website to think about what you'd like to spend the most time on and to plan your visit.
Allow for enough time to see the house (at least an hour) and to walk the gardens and grounds. I enjoy walking, photographing (No flash photos inside the house), and "seeing" everything - so my outside visit was almost 2 hours. For a total of 3 hours to take in everything. The house does set a time as to when the last visitor is allowed entry - so check your time accordingly.
Staff are easy to find everywhere - accessible and helpful!! (Thank you all!)
Now - a few thoughts on "who" might most enjoy a visit here. On this visit, I left the rest of the group to their own keeping - knowing that I tend to linger when touring these wonderful old estates.
In my opinion....EVERYONE will enjoy the visit. But, their enjoyment is going to vary by age and interests. Kids are going to enjoy the inside space - but may not have the interest to "linger" and read the details. I think they will find the upstairs old style bathrooms pretty cool. They will welcome the open gardens and grounds!
If you/your group like history, "old country estates", gardens, a view into the life of a community leader and co-founder of one of our country's best known companies - Plan to walk, walk and walk a bit more. You will have a great visit - but consider the members of your group and the amount of walking and standing that might be required to really take it all in.
And one more thing......Take your AAA card. :)

Probably our fifth trip to Ohio Mart at Stan Hywett and it always seems to be the same. Same vendors in the same place with the same products. A few new vendors this year but very few. Its always crowded and the pathways are way too narrow for such a large venue. On a positive note, the annual gardens and rose gardens were in full bloom still and very colorful.

Leading 80 travelers (2buses) on a Mystery trip This was definitely one of the greatest stops we made!! the gentleman that let us on our tour (and I do recommend the guided tour because you learn and see so much) but the gentleman that let us on our tour his name was Jim and he had well over 10,000 of volunteer hours he was so knowledgeable so kind so interesting it was just amazing the wealth of knowledge that this man had and it was so cool to see the whole place and learn so much -we really enjoyed this trip and I would highly recommend it to anyone but do take the guided tour!! it’s so much better! Beautiful place!! Great destination for travelers!

The gardens are enough to get you to come visit the Stan Hywet, but as someone who love Downton Abbey the house is fun to tour as well! If you happen to be in town when an event is going on the hall its even better! Christmas time is fun too with all the lights.

Akron, Ohio is a travelers treasure, and this place is part of that treasure. This needs to be on your list of places to see.

Allow a few hours to take the guided tour of the mansion and also enjoy the conservatory and grounds of Stan Hywet Hall. Decorations for Christmastime are lovely and there are other events throughout the year.

We've been members of Stan Hywet for about 5 years. We love visiting the estate. Even if we just go walk the grounds. Christmas is a beautiful to visit. But all season (April - December) they have beautiful flowers all over the estate. The history and family photos is enjoyable.

WOW! This place is amazing, gorgeous, wonderous. Took the Nooks & Crannies tour first thing then spent the rest of the day there - soo much to see. Walked through house on our own which was fine. There is signage and docents everywhere to answer questions. Beautiful gardens - Japanese my favorite. Had a bite to eat at the food truck type place - hot dog was good.

This was my second visit to Stan Hywet Hall. The first time we took a guided tour, which I highly recommend for first timers. For this visit we concentrated on taking photos and walking about the gardens at our leisure. We also took the time to read the information provided in the basement. Even though we didn't take a tour, there were a few staff members positioned in several of the main rooms who did provide some background and answered any questions we had. In my opinion, this is one of the best mansions that I have seen in the U.S. and the admission price is quite reasonable. Make sure to allow at least 3 hours for your visit.

Was a multi generation visit at Stan Hywet. Wonderful place to see! Delighted with the kids' scavenger hunt booklets, so was a great way to keep the children occupied in a positive & educational way. 2 hours was our goal with the little ones & was then able to get outside for them to run. Had chosen the self-guided tour & the guide booklets were helpful...we asked a few of the staff questions as we went along. (they were very easy to talk to...great info given) One could easily spend a casual day between the art, architecture, history & the grounds. We were able to get a treat at their food booth before we left...the scone was eaten later (& found it wasn't cooked all the way through), but the hot cocoa was quite good.

Peace and tranquility remain her as compelling attractions and most serious business. I go here rather than watch ice hockey or football games. See this place and stay there for as long as you benefit from solitary like mediative periods of rest. The key word here is "local" history since it is tied to the history of this city and region going back to last century and before if your think about it long enough and look at your calendar. Have you ever wondered what would golf courses look like when the greens and fairways were covered with vegetation. Here is an answer to that type of thinking. I have in past years like last century and before that wondered what the manor house would be like if music were performed there. I was lucky to hear a recital or two there on many occasions. I went there to walk around and admire the vegetation and to hear live music or to hear lectures. You should bring with you a love of local history and put it to practice. Walking inside the manor house is worth your time. It was a fun trip for many families years ago. Air conditioning would be welcome but I do not think it has been installed. I liked the academic lectures given by so many professors about different topics. It can be fascinating and magical in having a lasting impression on many visitors especially those who have some way for reading about earlier times of a forgotten era. A place for penmanship to flourish in writing letters or pen-pal relationships to start. It is like a deli-counter. Food store with exquisite food even though the menu has been pretty much the same for many years. A museum of a special kind. Guided tours might today be the only way to visit the interior rooms but I did not fall in to that trap when I was there for my first visit last century and before then. I am not sure now. Think about the show "This Old House" when you come here. I often did wonder out loud sometimes what do the less fortunate people think about these grounds and rooms for what amounts to a mansion when they visit this place. Talk about the haves and have nots. My first and second or very early visits were done at an earlier time long before the routine range of calendar dates suitable for indicating the times of my visit were made available for completing this review. More recent times when visits were made were last century if I recall correctly. I do not think i have been there more recently or very frequently. Is it late nineteenth or early twentieth century American history that is on display here? Visits to the local library or a course or two in American history might help you get answers to those questions. For sure there is an intellectual component for adjusting to this place for it not all flowers and vegetation.

We are visiting our son and his family this weekend from Naples Florida. We visited Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens today. If we said this is the best experience we ever had with all the museum homes we visited we are not exaggerating. We have seen the Breakers, the Biltmore, the Frick Museum in NYC, the Hearst Castle, Monticello Charlottesville, Winterthur Wilmington, Naumkeag Stockbridge, and Nemours Delaware. This is the one that indeed surpasses all our experiences. 70 acres of well kept and maintained landscape and beautifully decorated original artifacts are just so wonderful to behold. It's the most under appreciated and hidden treasure. It should be on the must see list for anyone who comes to this area to see and visit.

Every summer we enjoy Shakespeare in the Park. The gardens are always immaculate and beautiful. We get to take a picnic and explore the grounds prior to the show. It’s always a fun, fantastic evening!

very pleasant experience. took us about 3 hours to go through the house and grounds. worth the money spent. we did non-guided tour and were ok with that. we look our time walking around. will likely check it out again over xmas holidays to see the lights/deco.

This is a great spot to visit and the gardens are wonderful. You could spend hours walking in the gardens! This is the way history can really talk to you!

Our daughter had a small wedding ceremony in the Stan Hywet English Garden, and we couldn't have been more delighted by the wedding and the attentiveness of the staff. We were met by Sharon and John, our Events Coordinators. Not only did they meet us and make excellent suggestions during the rehearsal visit, but guided the bride, groom, photographer, and guests to the appropriate spaces for the four-hour event.
They were also able to accommodate last-minute changes with grace and competence. Sarah also helped us with the technical aspects of setting up and administering the Zoom conference link so our faraway attendees could participate in the special event.
The English Garden and Stan Hywet property is like a fairy tale setting. The beautiful brick buildings, wandering paths, and flower gardens are the perfect backdrop for a summer wedding.

We really enjoyed the Guided Tour! It is a beautiful, old 65k square foot house. I enjoyed the tour and the tour guide gave some really interesting stories to bring the home to life. If you choose to do a self-guided tour, it will be good, but I recommend the guided tour since it's only $2 more!

This mansion belonged to the Siberling Family who started Goodyear Tire Company in Akron years and years ago. Most people don't even know that so I am telling you. The home is absolutely insane and in it's original setting from the early 1900's including the furnishings, the kitchen equipment, the indoor pool and the leaded glass doors and windows are outstanding. This place is a must see !!!

We went to Stan Hywet for the holiday program they have every year between Thanksgiving and New Years. It was beautiful! There were tons of lights and music outside and the whole manor house was decorated for Christmas.
They have warming stations outside as well as hot cider and gingerbread. They also had Santa Claus for the young ones.
It was a truly enjoyable evening.
MUST GO !!!
This place is so beautiful. Gardens were amazing. So many gardens to look at. The interior of the mansion was really something. Like Biltmore Estate but honestly, much nicer both inside the house and outside in the gardens. Nice that you could just walk around by yourself without Docent yammering constantly. VERY NUCE and MUST SEE !!!!!
