Neat place to visit!

Neat area to shop! Lots of neat stores to meet anyone's needs. Also, some very good restaurants in the area. Well worth the stop when visiting Pittsburgh!

Food & shops

By AndreaUbok |

Lots of shops with a lot to see from the Kitchen Store, candy, flowers, chocolate, coffee, biscotti, sausages, steel art, Pittsburgh team shops …
There are big stores that offer ethnic foods Such as Asian, Italian, Mediterranean …

Food...and all the sports souvenirs you need!!

By Laurie P |

We stayed on the Strip at Hampton, so visited here a few times. It has lots of food establishments. We ate at Luke Wholey's Wild Alaskan Grille, as well as the original Primanti Bros. It is a good place to pick up souvenirs at Yinzers and Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop. We also picked up the Hop on Hop Off Bus for a full tour of Pittsburgh. There are 3 stops for the bus in the Strip District.
Worth a walk through!

famous primanti brothers (the first one) are in this area.

By sanju_222323 |

our friend told us to check out this area, especially at night. it was Saturday, it was a long weekend (labor day) but the street was empty...lol

though we visited this area couple of times during our visit, and we found it good. famous primanti brothers (the first one) are in this area.

it was formerly occupied by warehouses and railroad installations but is now one of the city's main tourist attractions and a scene of lively activity throughout the day.
What was once a primarily industrial neighborhood is now packed with restaurants, international markets, museums, and shops. Along the strip and the Allegheny River, there are many fun activities to do and great options for getting your picture clicked.

It measures only half a square mile, but it has plenty of attractions and eateries to fill up your day (and your stomach). there are hardly any national chains restaurants, it has more independently run, family-owned restaurants and it gives this neighborhood its charm

Pennsylvania market (it's not market, but the name suggests otherwise) is another cool place to hang out.

Pittsburgh Sports Fans - Shop till you drop!

By W0rldtraveler2012 |

This Flea Market like shopping area is the best if you are a Pittsburgh sports fanatic. Everything Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. My wife is an Atlanta Falcons fans

Shop till you drop

Good way to spend an afternoon

By Richard C |

There are Italian, Polish and fish stores. Great to stroll through; lotsa of unique products. Don't forget Premanti Brothers.

Always something new and unique

By Janice M |

Every trip here, I discover a new and unique shop, food place or great place to buy just about anything to cook! Strip District Meats for EVERYTHING meat (and best service). Seafood and fish at Wholey's. Ethnic markets from pierogi, macaroni and coffee beans, too! Clothing and t-shirts. And, yes--those Steeler things!

Awesome

By Kkitko67 |

A must stop when you visit the Burgh! Fantastic Ethnic food shops, bars and restaurants. If you can’t find it on The Strip you won’t find it.

Great place for a walk

By George T |

Don't know where to begin with this side of town. A little bit of everthing to see. Plent of resturants ranging from inexpensive to nicer fare. Lidias was awsome! Gret place for people watching too. Nice market places to shop for just about anything including souveniers

A great shopping area

By Charles M |

The area is loaded with assorted to shop for food, team memorabilia and crafts. It also has several eating establishments.

One of our favorite activities

By Erics556 |

We love the architecture in Pittsburgh and visit from Ohio on a regular basis several times a year. The strip center is a great spot for many of the specialty shops.. we always start our day off at Pamela's or Deluca's for their wonderful pancakes. Up and down the strip center, our specialty exotic clothing, stores, reasonable, and imported goods.. and of course, then the meat, the fish and the sausage we usually bring a cooler and take home, smoked meats and sausage. We highly recommend spending the day exploring the strip center.

Unpretentious local area not to be missed

By Vistaviewer77 |

On the hunt for authentic polish food came across the S&D deli. Decided to walk around this quaint, bustling area filled with local authentic eateries, bakeries and shops. We parked in a lot which was easier (albeit pricier) than trying to find on street places. Walking up and down the street we smelled all the wonderful aromas of Thai, Mexican, Italian, Vietnamese, Chinese, seafood, and more. Some of it is street food and some are dine in restaurants. It felt like this is the true melding of all the people who live in Pittsburgh and everyone should be able to find something to eat here. Should you be on the hunt for steeler merchandise this is also the place to grab a cheap shirt, hat, hoodie, etc. Shun the chain eateries that one finds in any city across America and go for a unique, local experience.

Local shopping at its best!

By Sharon B |

We were just passing through Pittsburgh, on our way to OH from NY via Amtrak. We visited the strip both times we passed through Pitts, coming & going. We bought gifts of various cured meat products, food-grade lavender blooms, herbal sachets, biscotti, ravioli, and coffee. We had a delicious breakfast at Pamela's, crowded on Sunday, but service was with a smile and the food was excellent.

A fun day

By Keep Life Simple Allan |

The strip district is best visited on a Saturday or Sunday to get the best experience. But, it is very crowded and packed with people.

A first visit to the City!

By Cindy T |

Many places were close due to virus and renovation. But good place to visit and see the local stores of different fare. Glad we took the stroll.

Vibrant!

By Michael P |

Great variety of wonderful restaurants and bars, excellent shops, including some truly memorable Italian and Mexican grocers!

Love stoping by when we visit home

By Allice98 |

If you visit Pittsburgh, especially more than once, you really need to stop here. "The Strip" is a major part of Pittsburgh with its restaurants and shops selling Pittsburgh and Steelers goods galore. It is genuinely anything but a tourist trap - this is a place many people who live in the area go to often for area specialty goods and a spot that I really miss getting to go to often since moving away. Go on a day when Steelers are playing and it will be hard to see any other color than isn't black or gold. Had the chance to behave the other day on a Monday and was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of people out and about and most of the businesses up and running since I've really only been down on a weekend/holiday day before.

FUN

By james b |

Best place to get gifts for the family. I always feel safe walking to the strip from downtown Burg. A lot of good restaurants on the way too.

Shopping

By J A B |

What a cool place! Love the diversity! There is everything from an Italian grocery store, to an Asian American grocery store, to a Chocolate store, and a clothing store. We didn't spend enough time there, so we are definitely going back to check out what we missed.

Great local flavor

By Paul J |

We went up to this neighborhood for breakfast with the locals, and loved walking these streets. Make sure to dive into truly amazing food stores (e.g., cheese and fish) and cooking stores. People very friendly too.

Yes!

By Tobias K |

I live in the Strip and I like it a lot! Great for strolling around on a weekend or visiting one of a few nice cafes or bars such as DeFer or Cinderlands. Loads of Steelers shops too. Gets very crowded at times, but it's a great place to live.

I love the Strip district!

By AdventureMonkey12 |

My first time in Pittsburgh I stayed right down the street from the Strip. I loved the strip. Vibrant, amazing food and lots of fun.

Great deals

By Michelle A |

Nice little area.If looking for some good deals on merchandise, this is the place to go.Many little shops and plenty places to eat

Great Experience!

By Diane S |

Shopping in this area was a lot of fun! I stocked up on hot sauces (Reyna Foods), spices (Penzeys Spices) and bought cute purses at Lucy's Handmade Clothing. A lot of interesting fresh food, meats and fish are available at various places however we opted not to buy these since we are staying at a hotel. We were there on a Saturday at 1030 and parking wasn't a problem for us at a paid lot for $10.

Interesting Walk

By uneeck65 |

Strolling on the strip during the weekend is an adventure for sure. Lots of little quirky shops, specialized food stores and tons of “outlet” Pittsburgh sports clothing shops. Folks playing music on the sidewalks and many different cultural backgrounds mixing in one area. Truly a must have experience…at least once.

Go Early

By travelcouple1970 |

After reading the reviews on this, I really wanted to visit. We went on a Monday after work arriving just after 5 pm. Parking is paid until 6 pm on the street so make sure you are prepared for that. There is street parking and parking lots. Since we arrived late, we only had to pay $1.00 for street parking. The street parking kiosk did take credit cards; I'm not sure if the parking lots did or not. Since we got there after 5 pm, there were hardly any people walking around and all of the stores were closed. Most of the restaurants were closed as well. After looking at the hours on the stores and restaurants, most of them close between 3 and 5 pm. We were bummed that we did not arrive earlier. There are many specialty stores, including Asian markets, Italian markets, cheese stores, local shops, and candy stores among others, lining both sides of the street (many of the streets are one way). There were many different types of restaurants. We really wanted to try one of the Thai restaurants but it had closed so we went to a pizza place (which was amazing, by the way). There were so many places that we wanted to explore so we definitely will return when things are open.

Central Location with Everything

By Devin S |

The strip has everything you could want: souvenirs, great food, walk-ability, grocery shopping, specialty markets, bread, spices, cheese, pottery, bars, etc. It's always crowded on the weekend, parking can be a pain, but it's worth a visit

Something for everyone

By callalily90 |

The strip district is a wonderful, awesome, cultural explosion in Pittsburgh. If you like strip malls, chain restaurants and golf attire...this place is Not for you lmao 😂 Full of so much diverse people, food, shops. It's a lively, fun atmosphere, especially on a beautiful spring day. It was a little crowded but that's to be expected on a Saturday for sure. Weekdays are much calmer and easier to navigate and explore if you have time.

Fun shopping

By JayB1r |

There are some interesting shops and restaurants in this area. It is an area that is in an old business district and you have specialty stores mixed in discount stores. The food sources are also very good. From discount tees, to macaroni (pasta), to meat stores delis, and so much more, the Strip has some shopping available. This is an old section of town that is still growing, but it has warts. There is an uncleanliness in some places.

Real Pittsburgh

By Angela M |

If you are not from Pittsburgh, at some point you should probably go to The Strip District when you are visiting. Many stores & restaurants, and lots of Steelers/Pirates/Penguins stuff. Italian & Polish stores. Good place to get cheap T-shirts.

Great Pittsburgh gear & shops

By lindsay0215 |

We bring out of town guests here to experience the Strip especially during football season. Love all the vendors selling Pittsburgh gear. Plus some great restaurants- namely Primantis. Parking can be tough.

Strip District not worth the stop.

By Vacation33870719268 |

We arrived at 3:30 pm. Everything was closed or about to close. Food specialty stores if you live nearby. Nothing else. Rather junky. I got the feeling they close early because of safety. Did eat at Eleven, a fabulous restaurant.

Easy walk

By evelynf686 |

Easy walk with a eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, bakeries etc. Several corners selling "Steelers" or "Pirates" gear.

Love the Strip

By HBH2336 |

I lived here for a year and tried to make it to the strip every weekend to shop. Upon visiting i knew i had to return and it was better than ever. Love to visit Wholey’s to see the fish, love the biscotti shop, and all the street vendors. So much to see and buy. Love it here!

Visited wiggle whiskey

By tomandlea |

Outdoor and indoor dining. Excellent fish and chips. Waiter so lovely. Whikey store inside. Loved it there.

Good but expensive

By PookeyPants |

Whooley in the Strip. $22 for 2. Ordered fish at the serve yourself counter. I had 1 piece of fish and sm lobster Mac n cheese. My husband ordered broiled fish sandwich. 2 small drinks. Carried our team upstairs to dine. We felt it was expensive because you waited on yourself and the portions were on the smaller side. Probably wouldn't return. It's a good experience for kids though.

Fun Spot

By Fran C |

We enjoyed walking the Strip District. The candy shop was worth the visit. There are lots of shops and places to eat. Definitely a lot of fun.

vacation

By fsu227 |

Interesting place with lots of booths selling items, almost like a flea market environment. Some good eating places and markets'

Nice place

By Amalia S |

You will find a variety of stores, restaurants, etc. Excellent place to go shopping and have something to eat

Ethnic food and culture

By jmart37588 |

Great ethnic food like kielbasa and cabbage rolls to name only a few. Home of the Primanti’s sandwich! Great fresh produce, variety of baked goods and fresh fish and meat. Also several shops that sell Steeler, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt themed wares. I must stop in your trip to Pittsburgh.

November 2020

By CPA Dave |

I had a great breakfast at Pamela's The Strip District is interesting. Definite visit if you have 3+ days to visit.

Fun date!

By Reagan O |

Went with my fiancé and we got some candy frim Grandpa Joe's, some fried rice and chicje. Kabob from a little old lady (amazing by the way) and walked through the district. Places to eat pretty good for about $5. Fun trip!

Fun, interesting, but you have to pay to park

By kimlovesfl |

An old favorite, we decided to visit on a Sunday, prior to having to go to a wedding. So many interesting stores and food and such! We actually bought our wedding gift here at the Macaroni Company.

My only complaint is parking. It is limited, and it is not free. I hate paying to pay, especially if I'm shopping. For that, I give 4 stars.

Must see

By higgins5163 |

If you like food, do not miss the strip district. Interesting shops and markets to visit. Lucky people who can do their shopping here all the time! So many restaurants to choose from too. Wish I could have spent more time.

Local market, specialty stores and restaurants

By crescentann |

This is a great place to visit. Wonderful ethnic restaurants, markets and specialty stores like Penny Spices.

Went Early

By rogersober |

Before eight AM parking is attainable. Pay to park was easy. The shops opened in staggered fashion. The place is absolutely great.

So Much Great Stuff

By BeagleHQ2 |

Seemingly endless unique shops, boutiques, cafes and places to eat all along Penn, Smallman, Liberty, Butler and the numbered cross streets. Traffic can be crazy during peak days and times and on street parking can be tough to find, but a must visit for locals and visitors alike.

Hip - Smart & Fancy

By Phil |

Up- and coming new area in Pittsburgh, located a short distance away from the slighty down town area. Many cafes-shop-restaurant still need to be completed

Energizing

By Rachel O. |

I once heard that extroverts/introverts are less about how sociable you are, and more where you get your energy from. If you enjoy areas with lots of people and you feel energized by the vibrancy of countless things to look at and explore and people to interact with, you'll love the Strip. We had 3 separate families and a large group of young kids with us. We had donuts, visited Grandpa Joe's candy shop, ate at Primate's, and just walked and strolled and enjoyed it all on a Sunday morning. A must-do if you go to Pittsburgh in my opinion. It had died down a bit by mid-afternoon when we came back to get a late lunch, so if you want to be in the thick of it all (in a good way), to us it looked like weekend mornings were best.

Where the locals go

By Maral E |

Great place to shop for souvenirs and grab a bite to eat. Apparently it's a locals hot spot for anything fresh.

Unique and thriving

By Sunny Dr |

Cool place in Pittsburg. Very unique with lots of restaurants, people and activities. We biked thorough so it’s very friendly to cyclists. A landmark in Pittsburg

Worth a stroll

By Grey C |

The Strip District appears old and a bit funky but some of the businesses have clearly been there a very long time and these offer some fun shopping. There are lots of touristy places but the good food shops make up for them and offer super goodies. Worth a visit and not too crowded.

A Must in Pittsburgh

By Nancy W |

The Strip District is one of the most interesting places to visit in Pittsburgh. It's a great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables as well as all sorts of ethnic food, Pittsburgh sports gear, and specialized kitchen equipment. Strolling through the Strip is a great way to get a feel for the different cultures in Pittsburgh while picking up some delicious pastries, candy, or ingredients for dinner.

A tourist trap

By amnews |

Everybody tells you that you have to see the Strip -- but why? To have a drink in an old brick building? There is not much else to do there other than buy trinkets.

Love this area

By James H |

I usually try to stay near this area when in Pittsburgh and visit it for shopping and dining. I love the variety of stores and restaurants.

Tourist trap

By GracesMum |

I don’t know why everyone goes nuts for the Strip. It’s junky & touristy, overpriced (especially parking), and can be loaded with drunks on game days. You can certainly find better produce elsewhere. Pittsburgh is surrounded by farms & Citiparks holds weekly farmers markets at various locations. Skip this.

You can't recreate the authentic feeling anywhere else!

By WILLIAM W |

The Strip District is a must see pilgrimage when visiting Pittsburgh with Primanti Brothers street vendors and countless food emporiums. Skip breakfast at Deluca's. It's not worth the wait. Go early on Saturday to get parking, although there are some parking areas if you want to pay. Don't miss the Heinz History Museum. Avoid Lidia's since it's just a chain.

If you’re staying downtown, it’s an easy walk to the strip district

By FQTVLR |

This is a cute area if you’re staying downtown. There are a few shops and several cafés. We really liked the bookstore, though I forget the name. At the very end of Smallman is Saint Stanislav church which has a beautiful interior. Many of the shops are closed on Monday or Tuesday, and many close by 5 PM.

Interesting

By emcfish |

Fun place to walk around into different primarily food markets and establishments and souvenir shops. Food quite diverse and family-owner. Bustling area with lots of Pittsburgh pride.

Large Variety of Shops!

By Crystal |

There was a large variety of shops and restaurants in The Strip District! One could purchase reasonably priced souvenirs as well as a variety of food and snacks! Be sure to visit this area when you visit Pittsburgh!

Great way to spend the afternoon

By sehk |

Great area to check out in Pittsburgh. It is a mix of shops/restaurants. Yes, there are tacky t-shirt shops but they are mixed in with very high-end chocolate and flower shops. I liked the eclectic mix. We had a great pizza lunch at Bella Notte. Definitely a must to explore when visiting your Pitt student like I was.

Not what I was expecting

By Denise K |

I had heard about this shopping area and thought it would be a great place to get some souvenirs. I was not impressed. Most of the places had cheap, tacky stuff. A lot of Steelers items. There were some food places and some fruit market type places. I would not go here again.

Some of the original Pittsburgh remains

By dgs5536 |

Here you can catch a glimpse of Pittsburgh past. Diners, ethnic food stores, old buildings. Lots of Pittsburgh swag.

Fun way to spend the day before the game!

By SARA R |

So fun if you’re in town for a football game! So many fans on the street - lots of vendors and great spots for food. Would go again!

Shopping

By Jo J |

I've shopped in the Strip for years. It has been fun to watch it evolve. We are all looking forward to the new shopping and restaurants coming on Smallman. I always take out of town guests for a fun tour.

Restaurants & shops.

By Jack L |

I learned about the Strip while spending five days at the Hampton Inn on Smallman Street. The Strip is 390 acres from the Allegheny River to Liberty Avenue-west to east - and north to south 33rd down 11th street. In the 390 acres are all kinds are restaurants & shops along with warehouses. Also three large parking lots. I had no use of the Strip other than Roland's Seafood Grill which is a 12 minute walk north from Hampton Inn.

Foodie Haven!!

By WwC |

Have been here exploring and eating several times now. Each visit I find a new favorite. All types of restaurants, bars, specialty foods, chocolates, donuts, espresso, and did I mention bars? Must see place in Pittsburgh!!

Enjoyable Pastime

By Amy P |

One of my favorite places to spend the afternoon. Independent markets, restaurants, and storefronts. It feels like authentic Pittsburgh and hasn't been ruined by chains. Bring your reusable bag, because you might see a gift, or a tasty treat that you can't pass up!

COLD IN PITTSBURGH --THE STRIP WAS OPEN AND WARM !!!!ENJOY THE WINTER

By James C |

The people were very pleasant, helpful,& most accomadating. This an excellent place to shop.Didn't forget you can enjoy the river and yes you can gamble if you choose. Thank you Piiisburgh.

Saturday Morning at the Strip District

By Diana6972 |

It is a variety of ethnic vendors, street vendors selling Pittsburgh sport teams & unique stores to find great gifts, fresh vegetables, Wholey's for fresh fish and JoMar's for fresh meat. There are a variety of restaurants.

The Strip District isn't what you think.

By Robert R |

The Strip District is an area downtown Pittsburgh filled with many shops for all ages. As you might guess most of them sell Steelers, Pirates and Penquins paraphernalia but there ate a lot that don't. There are several meat markets and a macaroni company( not just macaroni). There are several bar and eating establishments. A whiskey distillery. A place that sells all kinds of kitchen cookware and gadgets. There is a candy shop with every type of candy imaginable along with numerous types of pop that you do see everyday. They also have ice cream and chocolates. If you have a few hours to kill this is defiantly worth your time.

Lots to Buy

By tmb110 |

I would suggest taking a cooler with you. If you plan to buy frozen or refrigerated foods, you will need it. There is a variety of different types of food and restaurants. We went on a Friday and the crowds were tolerable.

Well worth the visit.

By John B |

The strip district was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. We visited late morning when it was not too crowded. Something for everyone. I wish we had more time to appreciate the area. Looking forward to visiting again when the construction is completed. Should make the area even better

Great place to get game day gear!

By rsotelo |

Loved the variety of Steelers items and was fun to just walk up and down the street for souveniers, clothing and to see other old local stores. Most of the prices were comparable and everyone was friendly and helpful. No issues getting ubers to and from since we didn't have a car.

Was unique and a nice little walk

By staycationer2016 |

This area looks like it is a piece of Pittsburgh history that has not changed with the times which was cool to see.

The Strip has Everything

By JJB |

Visitors to Pittsburgh. Appreciate and visit this part of the city. Street vendors, stores that have been a staple of this area for years and the hustle and bustle. Come see a part of the city that constantly changes and stays the same....is that even possible? Enjoy some good food and good shopping. Also check out the renovations of old warehouses that are now top of the line housing.

People of Pittsburgh. When was the last time you visited The Strip? If you have to think on that, its been too long!!!

Can't wait to return and try one of the restaurants

By Cynthia F |

Loved the street musicians. Wondering if they're only there on weekends.

Very crowded. I walked in the street at times to get away from the crowds.

So many stores selling Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise!

So many inviting restaurants!

A Pittsburgh gem.

By BrucefromMuncie |

What a fun place! Great restaurants and shops. Definitely something for everyone. Go hungry! Parking can be little difficult but not impossible.

Anything you could want on one simple street

By Cory |

Shops galore in the strip district. Any kind of food you could want to purchase to cook at home, or have that day for a meal out. There are also many specialty stores in the area that cater to any need. Be sure to get there early or have someone drop you off. The parking is hard fought for after 9am.

nice to walk around after Heinz museum

By tabhauser |

The strip is a half-mile section of converted warehouses lined with an eclectic mix of stores. Here you will find T-shirt and souvenir shops heavily promoting Steeler’s clothes.
There is a spice shop, bakery, a large candy store, ethnic and produce markets, coffee shops, bars and restaurants.
One shop sells only Pennsylvania distilled products. The Strip is a fun, non-flashy place to stroll around.

Area of Gentrification

By kde222 |

Area that used to be industrial is now full of wonderful resturants and shops. Good nightlife with entertainment and accessable parking.

Great market

By jgeoffdodd |

I've been to many markets throughout the US and Canada. This one is a favorite in that it still has an old feel to it. Some markets have become too hip, where the Strip still has what seems it's original feel.

So many things!

By Kendra C |

Visiting with my daughter and was amazed at how many different shop there were! Plan on a couple hrs to explore

Ok

By Roses |

The photos on here looked better than in person.. perhaps I didn’t thoroughly explore this neighborhood enough.
Overall colorful with plenty of seating, especially outdoors to relax. Felt fine but nothing I think is a must check out at all.

Every City Should Have a District like This

By Douglas H |

A very busy area on a Saturday morning. Lots of shops, restaurants and Sights. The place to go in Pittsburgh to experience the city. I wish Cincinnati had anything close to this - sorry Findlay Market. The kitchen store is great. Lots of Italian food stores. Nice selection of restaurants, but you wil wait in line for the poplar ones.

Out of towners headed here first

By Donna D |

We had heard so much about The Strip before our arrival in Pittsburgh that we headed here first upon arrival. We arrived around noon and found food stores, restaurants, more team shirts than I have ever seen anywhere, seemingly on every corner. I had expected to see unique shops, but only located one, the "art of steel" which was amazing and worth the trip. We ate lunch on the balcony at Cafe Raymond. It was nice to eat above the activity, the food was good, nothing to rave about. We peeked in the windows of the "Macaroni" store which was packed with folks buying deli items, it looked interesting as well. Perhaps the evening experience lives up to the hype.

Quaint and eclectic

By Dave J |

Great variety of shops to find local items. Fantastic restaurants with local flair that have been there for years. A must visit if coming to downtown Pittsburgh!

so many sights, sounds and smells to take in

By Diane P |

The Strip District is a place no one visiting the city should miss! The various shops offer such a variety of mementos of Pittsburgh to purchase as well as the wonderful offerings of fresh and yummy smelling foods. It is truly a treat to all the senses.

Huge variety of shops, local businesses, food choices from all nationalities.

By Joanfam3 |

Wide variety of local businesses, huge amount of different ethnic food choices. Sidewalks got crowded with some street vendors monopolizing the walkways.

Great place for a stroll!

By art961 |

If you can find a parking spot it’s a great place to take a stroll. Lot’s of great food smells from the restaurants and the biggest assortment of Pirates, Steelers and Penguins Jerseys and t shirts I have ever seen. The pastries are amazing and the street musicians were some of the best I’ve heard.

Best to visit on a Steelers Sunday, but any day is a cultural treat

By pkittykitt |

The variety of things you can do see and eat and drink are many plus it is a pure Pittsburgh experience a must if visiting the city.

Street vendors and unique shops

Look beyond the cheesy tourist stuff and experience the character and culture of the place.

By Akamum |

Tons of places to eat - but if you are curious about where locals shop and eat, walk into the grocery stores, find a restaurant on a side street - like the original Primanti Bros on 18th, stop in at any of the shops NOT selling tourist knock off sports crap. Then you may start to get a sense of what this area was likely about back in the day. (Keeping in mind it used to be all warehouses, but there was a time that it was less tourist attraction stuff with more local shopping options) Parking is impossible on the weekends plus then you also encounter the hoards of tourists - many with strollers (really - what part of you thinks that is a good idea?) Penzeys has a nice little shop on Penn Ave. There's a florist/novelty shop - Roxannes - a bit pricey - but quality stuff - and Wholey's food is an experience in itself.

Great for Pittsburgh Sports Fans

By Jack W |

My family and I completed another visit to The Strip District for lunch and a little shopping. I highly recommend stopping at Roland’s for the Hot Buttered Lobster Roll and if you’re a fan of any of the Pittsburgh Sports teams you’ll be in “heaven” shopping at the many reasonably priced vendors selling their apparel. Also, check out some of the small shops offering food, produce and other Pittsburgh souvenirs.

Something for everyone

By Maitham N |

The strip is a staple of Pittsburgh and for good reason. There’s something for everyone from chocoholics to beer enthusiasts, everyone is sure to find their niche

Somewhere Everyone Should Experience

By GrandmaA2016 |

The strip district has so many various things to do and see. You can get a great breakfast at Bar Marco then it is on to some shopping, Maybe you are interested in Steeler, Pirate or Penguin wearing apparel or maybe some fresh seafood, or maybe some food shopping. Then to Rolands for some authentic lunch. Possibly, you want to just stroll around. The strip is very unique. Whatever you decide to do, you will have an enjoyable time like no other.

Must do in Pittsburgh

By Sarah |

Walked around on a busy Sunday. Packed full of people but great atmosphere all around. Street vendors sold interesting goods, lots of great food shopping groceries and restaurants to choose from.

Always something new!

By Bailey0903 |

I love shopping in the Strip District, especially the specialty grocery stores, restaurants, and galleries.

Heart and Soul of our City

By SteelCity13 |

GO! If you want to see a part of pittsburgh that authentic then look no further. The strip is part of the heart and soul of pittsburgh. From all the ethnic stores that have been there forever, to the church that sells home made perogies, to the many stores selling authentic and rip off steelers, penquins, and pirates gear, to all the great restaurants you have to try out. I promise if you down to this area of the burgh you wont be bored.

A must-visit

By sushobhan3216 |

You have to visit the strip district when you're in the Burgh! You can find everything here - from great food to all kinds of souvenirs. Some parts of it need to be renovated and the empty warehouses put to better use, but there's no better place to shop the local fare.

Lots of the same stuff

By sunshinel0ri65 |

They say you have to go to the strip district when in Pittsburgh, so we did. We ate breakfast first, so got a little late start. The shops only stay open until 3:30/4:00. If you are shopping for Steelers stuff, you will see the same stuff in every store, so no need to hope for cheaper prices from shop to shop. If you happen to go to a store with the owner running it; some will negotiate prices. Pretty much all there are, is tons of Steeler item stores, and Asian cheap junk you might expect to see at county fairs. There are lots of places to eat, and lots of pubs. If you nothing else planned, then go check it out for something to do.

Lots To Do!

The Strip District is a must when in the Pittsburgh area! This area is full of shops and restaurants! A great place to get Steelers merchandise. Grandpa Joes is a must too!

Pittsburgh’s Strip District

By Michael K |

Carnival atmosphere with ethnic stores and eatery’s. A piece of Pittsburgh history which hosts shopping, food and is often the site for many movie sets (ex: Jack Reacher).

Pittsburgh weekend

By Thom B |

Not a lot to say.. It was your typical food tourist shop strip.. The food was good and very well priced.. Shopping needs improvements..

Best snacking street in Pittsburgh

By Familytravelmaven |

Our first visit to the city we took the food tour which introduced us to the gems of the strip district. You can eat your way through the ethnic grocery stores and we have done that every visit to Pittsburgh. I recommend the Perrogie from the Polish deli, Biscotti, gyro from Laban, and the Atomic roll- which needs to be shared. Even if you’re not grocery shopping, this foodie haven is a must see during a visit.

Fun Sunday brunch area

By Elvis422 |

Lots of restaurants, shops, street vendors, people enjoying a sunny day on an autumn Sunday. Parking on th3 street is available.

Primantis, Pamela's Diner, Pennsylvania Macaroni

By achristy2018 |

We spent a nice afternoon in the Strip Ditrict strolling through shops with a late lunch at Primanti Brothers. The visit to the candy store was a nostalgic trip. I went back on Sunday morning to get cheese and pasta at PA Macaroni and got take out crepe pancakes from Pamela's Diner. Pennsylvania Libations has a huge selection of local liquor with free tastings. There are also numerous shops with tacky Pittsburgh souvenirs if you need Steelers merch or Yinz tshirts.

Spring Break Trip

By Linda R |

Loved the area, the variety and all there was. Reasonable prices and so much to see and do. Food varieties were amazing.

So much to do and say! Has something for everyone!

By SteelCity13 |

I love going down to this area of town and exploring! If you need Steelers/Penguins/Pennsylvania stuff this is your place! If you need ethnic food or ingredients this is your place. If you need fresh breads, meats, fish this is your place! If you want a great candy store or just stores to look through this is your place. There are also some great restaurants in the area.

International gastronomy

By Alejandro Y Yuni |

It is a curious area, full of restaurants and shops where you can find food from various parts of the world.
With murals and street stalls with crafts.
Many stores also sell t-shirts and souvenirs from the different Pittsburg teams. You can spend a good day walking and visiting the shops and choosing a delicious restaurant to eat.

Great times

By Stacey W |

Great food especially Wholeys. Great buys fruits nuts.... love the friendly shop owners. Saw a lot of restaurants that we will try on future visits.

By Sheena B |

the strip is a must to see on Saturday mornings, very busy, lots to see, places to eat, prices cheap.

Love the Strip District every time!

By JamesDR1117 |

Went to the Strip District again on a family weekend outing. I live the multicultural shops and restaurants. Lots of great things to do, buy, taste and see. Good prices in the shops. Gotta always go the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company, Primanti Bro’s, and get a cannoli fresh from the vendors on the street near their bakery, My Sweet Lilly. The place has it all. Must see area if you live in Pittsburgh, passing through or are visiting. I’ll definitely be back.

Fun time !

By lucillebrwn |

If you are looking for Pittsburgh sports team clothing, this is the place for you. Not many other stores there....a fish market, Italian market, popcorn shop, Penny’s Spices, candy stores. Don’t forget to stop at Primanti brothers for a sandwich.

Worth the 20 min walk out of down town

By Max B |

Nice little American street with some interesting shops and restaurants. Worth a couple of hours there. Must visit the spicy shop and the Market for fish and lobsters!

Awesome experience

By Davis |

This was my first time visiting Pittsburgh! I loved the Strip District. So much to see and do! Can not wait to go back. Anyone visiting Pittsburgh MUST go here!

Great Destination

By Dawn M |

This place is packed with locally owned restaurants and stores, mainly food related.

Prices were good at stores and restaurants.

Largest kitchen store I've ever witnessed. Staff were terrific. Largest fresh meat and seafood store I've stepped into. Lines were long at off-peak hours.

This stretch of street is a Pittsburg must-do.

Melting Pot!

By Jen S |

Eclectic mix of shopping along the river in Pittsburgh. It is about a 30 minute walk from the stadiums. The walk is relatively safe, although watch your timing. I would not walk from the stadiums to the strip at night. We walked during the day with our two children (ages 13 and 10) and it was fine. Once in the Strip District, you are met with outdoor vendors selling everything from t-shirts and jewelry to squishies and purses. The storefronts are a diverse blend of ethnic markets. Be sure to check out the seafood market and the Polish deli. We also enjoyed eating lunch at PA Market. It's a food hall-type atmosphere and it is kid-friendly. The food selection is somewhat limited but the wood-fired pizza we ordered was delicious. It was $5 per slice, which was really 2 slices, and we were all able to pick what we wanted. There was a nice selection of beer there as well. Be sure to also check out Peace, Love and Little Donuts, about two blocks away from PA Market. It's a great area worth visiting to get a taste of the real, local Pittsburgh.

Worth the walk!

By Marvelous |

We liked this area so much we came twice! Lots of shops and good eats. Steeler memorabilia along with Penguins and Pirates. Easy walk, side walks are level. Recommend to everyone who has time to walk and browse.

Shops & Pittsburgh Staples

By Kcollins108 |

Great place to walk around and visit different shops! Majority of the shops are for the city’s professional sport teams, not so much for Pittsburgh itself. Multiple places to eat but no options for gluten free needs.

Everything You Need

By Pachita61 |

There are many little shops ranging from restaurants to bakeries, pottery to popcorn, fish to objects of art, wine to wieners! A great place to spend a couple of hours

Had a fun afternoon

By Maggie B |

We walked around the strip for a couple of hours on a nice sunny afternoon in mid-February. Vendors were all very pleasant. Some prices seemed a little high. Parking seemed to be a challenge for many. We had taken a shuttle from our hotel.

Come Hungry

By Joe |

Four of us attended a pizza fest at the Pennsylvania Market which is a very nice venue for such an affair. The fest was enjoyable but did involve long lines to same local pizza vendors.

Prior to the fest we visited and sampled a variety of wines in a wine shop that specializes in Pennsylvania wines. The young person behind the counter was very service oriented and knowledgeable about the local wines.

The Strip District has an enormous amount of eateries including seafood, Mexican, Italian, American, novelty and specialty foods, and bakeries. One shop featured the Atomic Pepperoni Roll. The pepperoni roll is a food that originated in the coal mines of Appalachia. So be sure to come hungry.

It is a lively area with bars, eateries and Pittsburgh sports memorabilia. A great place to visit.

Good place to explore

By ttraveling |

After driving for 4 hours, it was nice to stop and walk a bit to explore Pittsburgh. Pretty easy to find parking at lunchtime on a weekday. There's a good mix of restaurants and touristy souvenir shops, with a few local places mixed in. Be sure to hit the candy shop! The Heinz History Center is in this area and worth a visit too. A few blocks still felt a little gritty "up and coming" but we felt safe walking around.

So much fun to explore

By StephRad |

Our first family visit to the Strip District was a hit! There is something for everyone. La Prima Espresso Company was a great start to the day. Lots of food options and a fun way to spend a morning. Looking forward to returning when the weather is a bit warmer. Get there early to find a parking spot.

Had some time to kill

By DEBBIE A |

There are certain stores I love and some good places to eat, but I just don't like coming often. It's the city. It's run down. It just feels dirty. I come maybe once a year and that's enough for me.

Hip fun!

By Hgtravl |

Lined with historical warehouses, the now hip Strip District has a lively mix of iconic Pittsburgh based food shops, all the gifts from Pittsburgh you can dream of, hipster bars and so many spots to eat. Really unique spot in the city that shows its charm & character. It’s not a trip to Pittsburgh without seeing the strip! They have plenty of parking (that’s cheap!) so it’s easy to park & walk around. Really fun vibe in the Strip. We enjoyed our stroll around this vibrant area, taking it all in. Lots of great coffee shops, photo opps & just good vibes all around!

A Pittsburgh experience

By alto32954 |

Almost every major city has a market-type district where you’ll find an electic collection of shops, goods and people. In Pittsburgh, that’s the ever evolving Strip District. It’s where you go to find the best variety of fresh fish, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, coffees and teas and ethnic groceries which have wonderful areas where you can find bulk spices and serve-yourself olive oils. You can load up on Pittsburgh souvenirs at several different shops, find local artisans selling their work at The Society for Contemporary Crafts and enjoy everything from street food to fine dining. In warmer weather, you’ll run across street musicians in every block and a farmer’s market on Saturdays. All that said, there are a few negatives. Parking is a nightmare, especially on Saturdays. Pay lots are pricey and many of the metered spaces were recently eliminated due to construction/renovations of buildings on Smallman Street. The aforementioned Saturdays are VERY busy and lines can get long, but it’s a happy atmosphere. A weekday visit is a much better option although that’s not possible for everyone. If you’re visiting the city, make time for a visit. You can spend thirty minutes or six hours.

Oriental grocery stores, coffee shops, flowers and great food.

By charlesbZ4878LN |

It reminds me of the South Philly Italian Market. Shops selling almost everything and people everywhere. I always stock up on Kimchi, spices and fresh coffee beans. Grate food every, a fish market with live fish swimming in large tanks, sushi, crabs and clams. Pirates and Steelers shirts and hats. Oriental grocery stores with a large selection of items. Hoagies, oysters on the half shell, fish sandwiches, chocolate from Italy, the list goes on forever. It is near the river and is often windy, wear comfortable shoes, lots of walking

Very well worth a visit!

By LeBen123 |

Perffect place for breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner, bar! Also multiple choices for baked stuff as well as souvenirs.

Fun place to visit

By dton93 |

If you have time while visiting Pittsburgh i do recomend this area during the day. great place to walk some very good places to eat as well.

Vacation.

By Jonathan N |

Went here while on Vacation. Cool place, a lot going on. Loved seeing all of the street vendors and what they had to sell. Most of the clothes were the same for each vendor. The little store fronts had a wide variety of things. If you are not a fan of walking would not advise.

Recommended for foodies and for tourist t-shirt souvenirs

By phillyloverbhm |

The Strip District reminded us of the Italian Market in Philly. There are lots of small, ethnic food shops and eateries with bigger fish markets and some well-regarded restaurants mixed in. The tourist shops are a sea of yellow & black t-shirts for their sports teams. We ate at Primanti Bros. for an authentic Pittsburgh sammich experience (they put french fries and coleslaw inside the sandwich). It's fun for a quick stop and eat mainly.

Love Going Here

By nancyhs1982 |

This is a place for everyone. Streets after streets of shopping and food. There isn’t much you can’t find here

Pittsburgh is a great place to visit!

By 675maryalicer |

I went to Pittsburgh to see a Steelers game and spend 3 days sightseeing. This city really surprised me because I had no idea it was so hip and filled with amazing food, beer and locally distilled alcohol. Too much to see in one trip so already planning a return trip for next year!

A Big Change Nowadays !

By Skeney57 |

The Strip District harks back to the 19th & 20th Century activities of the Pittsburgh Steel Mills. But today it is a food & bar area with lots for most. Restaurants, Wholesalers, Bars, Diners, Book stores, Sports Goods & Clothing, you name it ! A very vibrant District and a good place to stroll & enjoy.

Check out the Strip!

By ThePoundcake |

We do not live in Pittsburgh, but often make it a point to visit The Strip. There strip consists many small shops and restaurants slinging their goods. The highlights are some excellent Italian shops, Wholey's Fish Market, a ton of Steeler's and Pirate's gear, Deluca's and Pamela's breakfast joints and much, much, more. On a trip to Pittsburgh, I would definitely set aside a couple hours for this area.

Can't miss this!

By Steve R |

We hit this area on every trip to Pgh. Go on a Saturday or Sunday for the full effect. Lots of unique shops, stores, markets, restaurants. Can pick up some sports merchandise for some really good deals. Go hungry so you can grab a bite (I suggest Peppi's) and maybe a beer or two along your way (Beerhive).

Pittsburgh strip district a good place to walk around

By PennHillsTraveller |

This is a good place to walk around if you're carefree. A wide variety of storefronts, food markets, etc. The locals put a cooler in their trunk and buy fresh fish, meat, and produce. Wholey's is a main attraction - fresh fish.

Street vendors and shops

By lindsay0215 |

Fun to shop the street vendor stands for Steeler gear. You can find literally anything with Steelers/Penguins/Pirates on it. Primantis and Wholeys are here too. Fun afternoon of shopping and people watching.

Winding through the city!!

By Sherry C |

Have an afternoon or morning?? Spend it here. Come for breakfast, shop around, buy some gifts, do lunch!! Just meander. Go in all the shops, take your time. Yinz are gonna love it!!!

A walk around this place is a perfect and a must do in Pittsburg!

By Deepak the traveller |

It’s a great place in Pittsburgh to just walk around and explore the place, one can also take walk on the river side or indulge in some sumptuous delicious dishes.

Its a famers type market.

By Sherpa67 |

If you are looking for food, veggies or fruit or just some Pittsburg sporting gear then you might want to swing by on a Sunday and walk the 6-8 blocks as lots of vanders have tables along the sidewalks with lots of stuff fro sell. There is a great candy store on the corner of 22 and Penn with a icecream shop worth a stop as well.

A Path through History

By Stan D |

This is Historic Pittsburgh. This area is down where a lot of immigrants mingled, and even went to church! My Great Grandfather was married in what is now the Orchard Hill Church, but was St. Elizabeth's many years ago. There's also the St. Stanislaus Kostka Church where Tom Cruise as "Jack Reacher" handles a group of ruffians hired to put him out of commission. There are a lot of shops, and restaurants in the district, including the first Primanti's, which is famous for it's sandwiches.

Favorite part of the city

By mlnb11 |

This is an authentic, cool part of the city. Great restaurants and shops. Parking wherever you can find it on the street. A little gritty, but that's part of the charm.

Why the name?

By juzcrap |

I always love a walk down the strip district. It is just always filled with vibrancy. The cafes, the shops, the street vendors and the chinese supermarkets. Just what can one not find here? But, why the name though?

Don’t waste your time

By markbkeller |

The strip is nothing more than a t-shirt and junk stop. The only good thing is Primanti Bros. Otherwise there is a bad odor and dirty street.

Strip district

By Laura T |

Lovely to stroll up and down the streets in this area and visit the shops. Several eateries and bakeries. A seafood market, flowers, and several shops. If you go definitely go to Pamela’s for an awesome breakfast. I suggest you go early as the lines get long

Not quite what I expected, but still fun

By tcamp0000 |

Not as many shops, restaurants as expected, with much of the district closed/shuttered, but what was open was fun and had good fun/drink. Definitely the place to visit in Pittsburgh.

Overrated

By Perry333 |

Overrated. Maybe l missed something. Maybe it's better at night. If you need some cheap Steelers' shirts, then this is your place!

They have it!

By Sandra L |

Looking for that hard to find ingredient? Looking for something grandma made but you haven't seen in years? If you can't find it here, it probably cant be found. If I wasn't here from the west coast I probably would have left with tons of groceries, but many of the shops will ship! We had a great afternoon eating and shopping, then capped it off with a tasty craft beer. Very enjoyable time!

Interesting !!!

By Sylvia S |

Good shopping district for NFL souvenirs . Great restaurants with lots of variety. Lots of shops with spices and jerky, seems to be a
Thing there. Good for 3-4 hours with lunch. Safe walking there and area.

Disappointing.

By David T |

There are a lot of lower end stores here, many selling tee shirts and the such. If, however, you like Italian grocery stores and a large kitchen store which is not part of a chain then this spot is for you. We were sorry we went and would not recommend or return.

Eclectic

By AV_Berst |

Love to see all of the ethnic food options, such a neat place to visit. We love shopping for Steelers stuff!

fit for foodies and some fun shops

By hgummere |

tons of wonderful ethnic food and antiques and shops of repurposed items and chocolate and gardening...its a blast to walk around and try something at each place

One of the best attractions in Pittsburgh

By James A |

I think this is the best attraction for the city overall even though I come here for the football game primarily this is also worth staying the extra night over. Great restaurant, shops, coffee and more. Definitely it should be part of your visit.

Excellent shops, great atmosphere!

By Tom W |

Beautiful, characterful area with an excellent selections of shops and places to eat. The Heinz museum is just down the street, which is also worth visiting.

Fun Food and Shopping

By Retired T |

A must see when visiting Pittsburgh. Walk through this neighborhood for great ethnic shops and amazing food selections. There's also numerous tshirt and souvenir shops that scream da burgh.

Had good restaurants in the Pennsylvania avenue

By art-scuba |

It has cute shops and local restaurants with a multi cultural historic vibe. The biscotti shop, alleghany coffee, cafe Raymond, Penn Mac and gaucho are places I have tried and loved. Have lots more to try like the ice creams, Mexican, Thai, pho etc. Some places close early so check on schedule

A Trip to the Strip.

By lancaster4luvers |

A Trip to the Strip is well worth it for any European American 2nd or 3rd generation person. Italian,Polish, Russian stores I am pretty sure beside other stores.
Brings you back to the old country, fresh homemade pasta, biscotti, fruits. Authentic foods made fresh form grandma recipe. People in line early to taste the treats of the old world. Building are old and friendly. Parking could be a problem if you get there late but seem to have plenty of lots around the area. You need to go thee twice to really enjoy it. Bring your money because you will walk away with a lot of treats. Also major Steelers souvenirs for all those Steeler Nation fans. Most people we talked with were very friendly.

Always visit when in "taun"

By Margi S |

A place to enjoy the locals. You'll hear the Pittsburgh idiums
Buy spices, meats, fish, flowers, fruits and veggies plus other odds and ends. Don't forget Steeler, Penguin, and Pirate stuff. Parking is difficult...look for a lot and pay to park. Lots of places for a snack meal. Good place to spend a fun afternoon.

Great place to eat and browse

By Linda T |

The strip district has a number of great places to eat. The range is wide from Lidia's to Pamela's, they have something for everyone. It's fun to walk up and down browsing all the Pittsburgh souvenir tee shirt bargain stalls, not to mention the great ethnic grocery stores. Highly recommend a stroll in the Strip!!!

Great Area

By 928melissam |

Lots and lots of shops, bars, and restaurants in this area. All can be done on foot and both sides of the street are full with fun stores.

Lots of personality

By Ginger B R |

Love this place! Such personality in these streets, filled with unique stores, including a fantastic butchery and an Italian grocery store. Many places to grab a bite, shop for gifts, or get that Steelers merchandise. There are ample lots with ten dollar parking if street parking isn't available. One of my favorite areas of Pittsburgh.

One fun place to get a bargain.

By Richard P |

There must be 30 to 40 outlets all selling any thing with the word Pittsburgh on it. You can't beat the prices either. I don't even like to shop, but I do have a lot of fund when I come here. Just bought a sweat shirt, yes, it says Pittsburgh, for $20, This item would probably cost $35-$40 if purchased somewhere else. If you are a Steeler, Penguin, or Pirate fan there are plenty for items to chose from.

Still the Strip!

By Jason B |

You may have to be a pittsburgher to really understand the strip. It's not a place it's more of a neighborhood. Parking is really difficult now. It's Definitely changed over the years but it's still the strip. A place for a home chef can find that little special ingredient that you need to make your dish complete. It's also a place to get a great knock off of your Hometown sport. If you're from out of town looking for Pittsburgh paraphernalia I would start here 1st. This is where you will find all the Pittsburgh slogans and logos. Places that are noteworthy visits Sunseri brother's, Parma meat, Wholeys and Mancini bread. Hungry for Pittsburgh food. Peppi's or wholey's fish sandwich. Best restaurant GAUCHO PARIILA ARGENTINA! ** note. this restaurant has nothing to do with Pittsburgh, but its amazing and i am so glad they made Pittsburgh their home!

Diverse and interesting

By Ashlyn R |

So many ethnicities, incredible family owned businesses and delicious food / drink.
Absolutely recommend.

A must stop

By W13CHdanielc |

I go back every time I get back home to Pittsburgh. Some really good food spots and an affordable way to load up on Steeler, Penguin and Pirate gear.

True Pittsburgh Experience!

By Chocomath |

Eclectic...that's the best way to try to describe it. A variety of restaurants, shops and street vendors crammed into one long street. To name a few...Italian market, spice shop, candy store, multiple t-shirt stands, fish market, coffee store, jerky outlet.

City of bridges.

By Jessica P |

First time visiting Pittsburgh with my wife on Valentine’s Day and we fell in love with this place. It had so much charm. Couldn’t believe how beautiful (in some spots it seemed a little run down). From the tall buildings, to the beautiful bridges this city has became one of my favorite cities. We travel a lot and visit new places alot so that says something. We can’t wait to go back and explore more during the summer time.

Nice stroll

By Sarahnewbauer |

Headed here for something to do. Walk was nice, not to long or short. But if you go on a Saturday go early as lots of places closed early due to COVID 19. Stopped at Edgar’s taco’s a little pricey $3 per taco (Street taco size). But they were good. Also stopped at My Sweet Lily and got some baked goods.

Disappointing

By Christina T |

If you’re looking for a place to eat you will find it, if you want something other than Steelers junk, you will not find it. I was hoping for a little shop that sold postcards, and maybe a shirt that just said “Pittsburgh”, but really all I could find was Steelers shirts or shirts depicting a Steelers cartoon pooping on a Ravens logo. I absolutely hate football, I don’t care what city it is, I HATE FOOTBALL, but being from the Baltimore area, I really hated that shirt. Overall, I found Pittsburgh to be disappointing. Give me Annapolis, Maryland any day.

Great food! Unique shops and plenty of stuff for everyone to do

By Larry C |

One of the best spots in Pittsburgh because of its unique collection of different stores and shops. I personally recommend Primanti brothers and Wholleys seafood market.

amzing place to visit

By Valerie R |

went there and can't believe the shopping they have.
Food, clothes , specialty stores. great places to eat can't wait to go again

Lots of great places

By Kurt C |

Been down here before but wanted to try other places. Love the ability to park and see the different shops. Great places to eat. Lots of variety of food. Really excited to see how this area is growing with new businesses. Can't wait to go down again and see what is new. Lots to do and see. Come and visit this wonderful area of Pittsburgh.

Old area, very popular with restaurants and markets.

By sanntanna |

Fun area with a great vibe. Good place for souvenirs and to feel one with the locals. I liked the area, parking on street.

Eclectic & Quaint

By Myrtle Beach Valerie |

Older area of Pittsburgh offering a variety of eateries, shops and markets. Restaurants have side walk tables
...good for people watching! Great place to walk around on a sunny day.
Parking is an issue. We took a taxi. Other than that we really enjoyed our time there.

Be ready for crowds!

By HB1008 |

It is a long strip of bakeries, restaurants, food purveyors, and Pittsburgh purchases. The street is always crowded, but many curiousities.

Worth a short stroll

By Piero C |

An assortment of early twentieth century industrial buildings that are not distinguished by beauty or charm, except the residual charm of the contrast with the horrors of contemporary architecture, this seems to be the premier tourist destination of this city, which says a lot: Pittsburgh seems to me a much better place to live than to visit, consisting of real neighborhoods kept intact by the city’s complicated geography, places that can be known over time, rather than over a weekend. The Strip has some very fine stores, with unusually voluminous stocks, all well worth visiting. But it is not the best place to post from, and is a visual disappointment.

Wrong location on Trip Advisor

By Charliebones69 |

The location cited takes you to a condo parking lot with no shops or restaurants in sight. Better to direct to 19th and Smallman. The restaurant you listed near 35th st was not even open for lunch. We ended up with a hot dog at a small shop. Good hot dog but certainly not what we drove here for.

Can’t miss this when in Pittsburgh!

By 333meg |

This feels like the heart of old Pittsburgh. Take a weekend trip, and include this in the itinerary. The old Italian shops, are endlessly interesting. Shop to your hearts content if you are a foodie, and take a cooler! Fill it up with cheese, meats, whatever you can. I tell everyone I can about this can’t miss part of Pittsburgh.

Was expecting more

By David D |

Don't get me wrong - there's a lot here. You could have really good breakfasts, lunches, and dinners here for days and shop the rest of the time; it's just that the shopping would have to include an overabundance of T-shirt and souvenir shops, all selling essentially the same stuff.

There are some great places, too. The metal arts gallery, the pottery shop, the spice store, and several specialty markets, to name a few. We just wished there were more opportunities like those.

If you're visiting Pittsburgh, put it on your list. The food options alone are worth it. Just don't be too disappointed if you're underwhelmed with the rest of it.

A Favorite Stop When Visiting Pittsburgh

By Cynthia R |

I have been a frequent visitor to Pittsburgh’s Strip District since the 1980’s. There are many ethnic food stores, restaurants and souvenir shops. We always stop for lunch or dinner, to stock up on local specialty food items, and to buy clothing from Pittsburgh’s sports teams. The area is evolving, with trendy housing, which will only increase new business to the neighborhood.

Samples From the Strip

By MaureenKO |

The Strip District is the weekend go to spot to get fresh produce, fish, cheeses. It has the vibe of a European Market. Grab a coffee, get some Italian delicacies at Penn Mac - the “cheese guys” are wonderful. Don’t miss exquisite brunch at Cafe Raymond. - yum

Edgy and Interesting

By Elfma |

Sketchy neighborhood with interesting ethnic food options and open-air flea-market type vendors. S&D for the Polish food-best pierogies!

The Strip

By RozzyW |

The Strip is a great place to walk around and have many choices for bars and restaurants. Many of the buildings are old warehouses and interesting. Not much else to do here.

Hungry we were but no more....

By LewisB78 |

There was so many types of authentic restaurants from Vietnamese to Peru. All kinds of pastries chops. You can spend hours at this place and please go there hungry because there's lots of food to choose from.

There's a lot of shops to go in to get small trinkets to locally made things. There is something for everyone to see and enjoy

Alive and well

By Suzanne R |

We enjoyed several restaurants and stores in the strip District this trip. Everybody was following the social distancing guidelines and remained cheery and friendly which is what we always love about Pittsburghers

Go early, take a cooler.

By lovenothate71 |

So much to see! My suggestion is to go early and take a cooler. A lot of the vendors close around 3PM. If you are planning on buying fresh meat or veggies be sure to take a cooler. Parking was widely available. Be prepared to pay $10 or more to park. Wear comfy shoes.

Great little area

By jcdeligirl |

Loved walking shopping and eating onion this area on a Sunday late morning! Cute and quaint with many options for the that live there was well as visitors.

Nice area with happy people. Great place for sports fans shopping merch.

By max h |

Such a nice place to spend a day or two when in Pittsburgh. This is the area to visit if you are a sport fan visiting the city. There is A LOT of merchandise shops and places to eat.

Highly recommend!

Pittsburgh's Identity - Stripping

By YinzGuy |

Go early and spend a day - but prepare to walk a few miles. A walk on the strip is The 'Burgh's true identify. Who in their right mind doesn't want to peruse through countless Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins paraphernalia. The merchants are super friendly and their Pittsburghese accents are genuine. There are many options for food and don't forget to walk into Wholey's Fish Market and get wowed!!! I am a native 'burgher from the '60s who's lived in Oregon the last 40 years. I wish I could strip more often...

Best place for Steelers merchandise

By LoveNewExperiences |

The strip is the place to be for great shopping and food. This historic area has every type of Steelers merchandise imaginable for sale, a wide variety of restaurants and speciality shops including some great coffee.

Unique experience

By Mary Beth |

One of the most unique experiences is visiting the Strip District. Where else can you visit so many different cultur food experiences so close together. Pennsylvania Macaroni Co was our favorite but Wholeys is a must see also. Start your day by having hot cakes and Lyon size potatoes at Pamela’s. She never disappoints.

Great area

By mike44115 |

Good Food, nice shops. Ate at Primanti Brothers, food was excellent. Shopped at various stores. Will be back soon

Eat at Raymond’s!!

By Cheri B |

Stopped in for breakfast to go. Had the best bacon, egg and cheddar croissant EVER! This ain’t your mama’s croissant.

Good place to get specialty items

By MDobresk |

I visited with my thirteen-year-old daughter on Saturday Nov. 9th, 2019 in the afternoon. She's not used to large cities (she's lived most of her life in small-town Ohio) so i thought this would be a good way to introduce her to one. It was exactly what I thought it would be. Granted, I've been here before, but it was over 20 years ago and things change. We were really here for things we just were not going to find in the Wheeling, WV/St. Clairsville, OH area. We bought items for my daughter to make her own necklace at Art of Steel, browsed in a lot of different stores, bought cookies from My Sweet Lily, hooked ourselves up with lots of Asian treats from Lotus market, and ate dinner at Roland's. We finished our evening by getting too much candy and chocolate at Grandad's. My only regret is that she was too young to go into Lefty's (just for the ambiance). We had a great time and will definitely go back after the new year. By then we should have finished all of this junk food.

Lots to see and do for everyone

By K D |

We were only able to stay for a couple hours in the district. We stopped at a fun little made to order mini-donut shop. YUMMY! Had mid-morning eats at a place that serves breakfast pizza ( they made us a good old fashioned one). Lots of street vendors and neat little shops.

Not much open during the week evenings

By la l |

Fun to walk to. Would have enjoyed being able to see more. Our bad that we went during off hours. Think it would have been great to stay at a hotel in this area instead of the gross downtown hotel we stayed in.

Love the Strip!

By Marjorie S |

Just a fun place! We went early and we were going to Robert Wholey's to get fresh lobster for dinner. That alone is an experience. They pull then out of the tank with one of those grabbers they give folks in Phys Therapy and dump them on the floor so you can pick! Breakfast was at Pamela's get. Get the crepes! And we also hit several other shops and venues.

Browns fan in Pittsburgh.

By Joseph G |

Great place to spend the day, so much to see and do. Great food and friendly people going back in the spring to have some fun.

A work in progress

By soulefultraveler |

Check it out! Old warehouses being converted into living spaces, markets, restaurants, bars, shops. Very busy on the weekends. Stroll the streets.

Little green grocer

Yiu can find ethnic foods meats and authentic green grocer experiences for multiple ethnic backgrounds . Watch the prices and be willing to try something new .

Fun walk in the neighorhood

By HappyChicagoGal |

Great walking in Pittsburgh! Many different store fronts to view & walk into. We had lunch there & walked around & then had a cappucino & weather was good, so we could sit outside. Fish mongers & meat markets. Fun to walk around.

Something for everyone! Go in a shop you normally wouldn't!

By beardogmom |

We love coming back to PA for a visit to get our favorite foods so we stay near the Strip District and enjoy a variety!
I am really impressed with the newer areas near the Terminal and further away now - will need to try a few new places our next visit.
Yes parking can be a real pain - we usually stay at Homewood and walk but in evening prefer to go and park - there is no signage about free parking after 6 - but, luckily someone told me as i was about to pay!
The church near Terminal on Smallman is just beautiful - if its open go in and explore a bit.
I didn't realize the riverfront pathway was lit and really connects the strip to the downtown, etc! A real walkable city! Something for everyone ... more scooters and bikes might be nice.

Strip is the place to go.

By 63impala |

The strip is the place to be to spend some time and check out the shops and eateries. There are many places to check out in this historic district of Pittsburgh.

Cool

By Rick E |

Very eclectic and very cool. We had wonderful time visiting all the shops and seeing the best of Pittsburgh souvenirs. Be sure to see the fish market!!

Interesting history.

By Dana W |

We drove the entire length of the strip. Started down river and went up river. The down river part still has a lot of the old warehouses and other buildings that gives one a little glimpse of the past. The farther we went up river the more modern the buildings became. Especially around the end near 33rd street. If you are interested in history this is really a nice drive. As we drove beside the river I wondered what the area must have been like 50-75 or even 100 years ago. Well worth the time even if you are just looking and don’t stop to experience some of the local places.

Perfect to Walk Shop Eat

By dkrstec |

We spent the morning meandering the streets shopping and eating along the way. The Italian market is a must stop. I wanted to buy everything!

Looks rough around the edges

By Sunita N |

But a great place to get a reasonably priced meal. Highly recommend Primanti Bros and Wholey’s. Can park on the street but also some lots available.

Worth a visit

By Valerie F |

I go to the "Strip District" every time I'm in Pittsburgh - which is at least once a year. It's a great place to shop for pro sports clothing and accessories, I love it because I'm a Steelers fan, but they also have Pirates and Penguins attire (and a few other non-local teams, too). There's a small wine shop, plenty of great restaurants (including Primanti Brothers!), an antique shop, a costume store, and plenty of other boutique and specialty stores. The only reason I don't rate it 5 starts is because of the parking...it can be expensive, and sometimes hard to find.

Fun place to drink and eat

By johnsmith47 |

Walking through the Strip District on a Saturday afternoon, the sidewalks were crowded the so were the bars. it's a fun place to visit, but it seems to have gone downhill sine I was last here several years ago. I suspect the pandemic took a toll here.

Love coming here

By Gabriel G |

I live about an hour away and come by a few times a year to pick up some favorites I've only ever been able to find on the strip. Goodies today included 3 6 packs of coconut milk drink only available at the oriental market, a couple clearance Pittsburgh t-shirts, some macarons from sweet Lily's and my final favorite chicken on a stick from samboks.

Parking ticket from parking authority.

By Terry |

Homeless on the streets!! Make sure you pay for parking (which there are no signs to tell you about it) You will get a parking ticket of 25 dollars. Not worth it.

Great Memories in Pittsburgh

By 1969DC |

If your Pittsburgh Steelers fan, this is a must place to visit. Pick up your Steelers swag and have some food. We went to Rolands, food was great

Great place for weekend evening

By Matt N |

Randomly, our hotel was near this district, though I'd never heard of it prior.

A restaurant recommendation led us here, and we were able to cover back nightly for the rest of the trip.

Definitely a boozy environment. Kind of reminded slightly of the French Quarter.

A fun place to.visit

By Beachfeets |

So much to offer for any age. The restaurants all looked good and there were specialty shops with really nice items. It would be great if there were more kid friendly shops to open with toys or clothing, but overall it was a really fun afternoon. If you uber there, choose a restaurant near the 17th or 18th ave. For drop off, we got dropped off several blocks away.

Foodie paradise

By CMA bikeman |

The strip district started out as the wholesale food terminals for Pittsburgh. Now it’s simply known as the “strip”. It’s authentic Pittsburgh. It’s offers food, coffee, bakeries, butchers, gifts, sports merchandise, flowers, restaurants and bars. A must see is Wholey’s which started out primarily as a seafood store. You can eat there as well. In addition to fresh seafood they also offer chicken, beef and pork at unbelievable prices. They have a vegetable section too. Next door is a really good Asian grocery. Definitely plan a visit to La Prima for authentic espresso and cappuccinos. The bakery attached to it is called Colangelo’s and they offer the cheapest lunches in town. You can also eat street food from many cart vendors. Pennsylvania Macaroni company otherwise known as Penn Mac is an institution. Visit them for olives, olive oil, deli meats and an unbelievable cheese counter. They are a great source of pastas and bread. If you feel like eating Argentinian grilled foods, visit Gaucho Parilla. Their steak sandwiches are to die for.

Unique shops and a selection of restaurants in edgy Strip District.

By jgbtravels |

My wife had never been here before despite a number of business trips to Pittsburgh. There are a number of restaurants and shops especially unique food/imports in the Strip. We probably spent 2 1/2 hours here including lunch. Parking rates vary so do your homework. We were actually heading to a garage parking facility and passed a lot on 14th and Smallman that charged a flat rate of $10. Ignore it as there are better options further down the road such as a small parking lot on Smallman that charged only $5 total. In sure the rates change depending on what’s going on in town. The best concentration of shops are from 16th to 25th streets and mostly on Penn. Thete are some that find the area a bit edgy but that’s part of the attraction.

Ya just Gotta Go!

By Lori B |

Everything you'll ever want or need can be found in the Strip District. Baked goods. Italian Markets. Pittsburgh gear. Take a little time to swing by this area. And come hungry, lots of food venders in the area.

Walking Strip

By Louis P |

This is the strip district and you have to walk and see all the places to check out.
There is a locally famous deli here as well. Check it out............

Strip

By Mindy H |

FABULOUS!!! This is a must if you are visiting Pittsburgh for any apparel shopping! Tons of variety great prices (same pricing in all the stores) it seemed for the shorts/hoodies I saw. Tons of eatery’s and bars to stop in too!! And don’t forget the original Primanti Bros sandwich!! The strip is definitely a great place to spend a few to many hours! Wigle whiskey tour/tours as well!!

The Strip!

By Lifelessons1 |

My family and I lived in the Strip District for 54 years and although it has changed over the years it is still a great place. It’s great for shopping fit clothes, novelties, food, and more. If you go to PITTSBURGH, PA, and do not go to the STRIP DISTRICT, you will truly miss out hands down. DO NOT MISS OUT ON ONE OF THE GREATEST HISTORICAL PLACES EVER!

Cool place to visit

By Ed M |

Really cool strip of shops, restaurants, cafe's and clubs. Plenty to see and eat. People are proud of their Pittsburgh sports teams and it shows down here.

Great spot to walk around and take in the sights

By RamblinMan717 |

Many tiny little markets and food spots. Lots of bars and trinket/clothing stands. Short walk from down town. Very safe and clean. Small piece of Americana.

Fun but gritty, industrial area with bars and restaurants

By nnjtriguy |

The strip District runs along one of the many rivers of Pittsburgh. It is considered an entertainment area of the city and is in the midst of significant investment to expand and bring in more activities.

The area stretches for approximately 8 to 10 blocks long by 2-3 blocks wide, with restaurants, bars and souvenir shops dotting the road on either side.

It is where the City hosts the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and is only a few blocks from the downtown stadiums and arenas.

You’ll often see and run into bachelor and bachelorette parties on Saturday evenings along the strip.

We’ve visited for dinner on a number of occasions and enjoy the variety of restaurants to choose from. From traditional bar food, Mexican, Latino, Italian, Primanti’s and Pamela’s… To new food hall’s, the area has something for everyone.

A Little Bit of Everything

By shawneemtsu |

I enjoyed the variety of shops/vendors. The pepperoni pizza roll vendor was super nice, had free samples, and got our business! The Chinese grocery store there stinks terribly but made me feel like I was in China.

Early Saturday morning

Awesome venue of foods; the shopping experience was great. Unique gifts and the groceries were over the top PERFECT
A bit crowded but the hustle bustle was invigorating
Need to make this trip more often

Fun place to go when in the 'Burgh'

By Charlene828 |

I've lived in Pittsburgh my entire life, and visiting the strip district is always fun with out-of-town visitors or if locals want a place to eat, drink and shop. It is eclectic. The food is great. It is a fun place to go. The summer months are particularly fun.

So fun!

By kristalynn415 |

First time here, great shops and lots to do. Wholleys Market was a favorite, but truly loved the whole experience. Check it out!

Fun unique stores local history

By Adventures with TAGS |

We happened to get to Pittsburgh the day all museums closed for covid so we got public transportation passes and explored the strip got lots of new foods to try and even pelted some dogs that were up for adoption

Can't goo wing in the strip

By Robyn martin |

We like to go on Saturdays. There are vendors lining the streets, fresh produce strands, flowers, baked goods and so much Steelers, pirate and penguin merchandise
A great atmosphere. Penn Mac is a great Italian store, you'll also find sausage and ethnic food in the strip. Sometimes they sell food in the sidewalk. So good!! Delucas is a great spot for breakfast. Lines out the door most days

A must every time ...... Stock up on spices and just to bring back memories and make new ones.

By Lois G |

The whole atmosphere here is alive with food and produce and fun things too. You can buy coffee or a t-shirt or cheese or olive oil all in one or two blocks. Wind you way through vendors. Why go to NY!!! when Pittsburgh is just as alive.

Locals are very lucky to have such a historic place to shop..... love it

It was okay

By Trekster520 |

There's a few decent food venues but seemed like mostly sidewalk sales of t-shirts and novelties. It's a good place to spend a couple hours when the weather is nice.

Loved the little shops!

By lejustice |

I bought things from several small shops, The Pittsburgh Macaroni Company is my favorite! There's a polish deli with amazing food too. Loved my time here. Enjoy!

Restaurants and Unique shops

By A & M Travels |

If you are looking for any Pittsburgh gear this is the place to go, all kinds of shops. Nice place to just go and walk around. There are a lot of different restaurants to try. If your looking for a culture specific food they have several grocery stores.

Not worth the walk

By Cynthia S |

Found ourselves here because we didnt get a chance to get fan gear while at game. Found the merchandise to be cheap knock offs

Family site seeing

By fireandhazmat |

Family was in town and we took them to the strip. They went shopping for food ans Steeler stuff, that goes with out saying.

A must do

By Coach T |

The Strip District has something for anyone Shops for the shopper. Small farmers markets with locally grown veggies and fruits. Restaurants that offer sit down and take out. Bars and pubs. Local shops that you can and should frequent(Penn Mac comes to mind) well worth the visit everything.

Too crowded!

By MsBarbara079 |

This is a very unique area but not really my idea of a good time. Extremely congested sidewalks, street vendors wares were just OK, I wouldn't go back.

New, Upcoming Area of Pittsburgh

By wahunt |

This developing area of Pittsburgh has a lot to offer, with many restaurants, markets, and other shopping. The Strip District can be crowded even in the daytime. Parking can also be problematic.

A different Strip experience

By GiGi L |

Being from Pittsburgh it wasn’t my first visit to the Strip District. My husband and I actually got an AirBnB right on the Strip. I’m on a campaign to make my husband fall in love with the city like I’m in love with it. I thought a place on the Strip would be perfect in the Spring. Lots of thing to see, places to walk to, shops to browse and of course Primanti Bros!! I book the AirBnb and a few days before our stay confirmed cases of Covid-19 hit Pittsburgh. I was disappointed at first. All the bars and restaurants are closed but for take out as well as the shops. It turns out it’s actually an amazing place to be anyway! We still walked around and explored. Less people actually made it feel like everything was ours and we had the best time. People or no people it’s a nice place to walk through to downtown and see some of the city.

Very cool

By Quest229381 |

Of the many areas in Pittsburgh to visit the Strip District is a must. Day or night. From shopping to food. And of course a few drinks. It's kind of like Pittsburgh's version of New Orleans bourbon street.

There are very few totally authentic places like this in the U.S.

By GeraldWW2 |

I grew up in Pittsburgh and the Strip was always cool. The best stores were always Wholley's Seafood Market, Enrico Biscotti, Pennsylvania Macaroni, Parma Sausage, Prestogeorge Coffee. But there are many more places now. It is not only a must see in Pittsburgh, it is a great reason to visit that city.

This area could use a face lift

By Pam.A. |

Don't miss Penn Ave Fish Company. This area is very eclectic but all the stores really sell similar things. I expected to see small boutique shops on the Railroad Street, just one street below Smallman (the main street in the district). To me it looks like the area is trying to get a face lift. It really needs one. There are some great murals. And it is the heart of Pittsburgh but honestly, I would have rather spent the time visiting all the fabulous museums in Pittsburgh.

A must stop when in PIT

By C M |

Tell yourself there are many places to stop while in Pittsburgh but one not to miss is the STrip District. And make a point of it even if you don't buy anything go to Pittsbugh macaroni Company , take a number get in line or the crowd and wait for a PIT tradition of waiting an hour or even 2 for cheese and sliced meats like no other. I have traveled many places and ther eis nothing like this and its all local. Parking is another issue - good luck. But I suggest go before they close at 4 pm, the wait is usually less than 1 hr.

If You’re in Pittsburgh, Don’t Miss It!

By LLONEIL |

The Strip is Quintessential Pittsburgh, and if you’re a STEELERS fan, best gear by far!
From Peace Love & Little Donuts (MUST) to the retro candy store to the Heinz Museum, it’s a tip toe through Pittsburgh’s Renaissance. And if you like fries on EVERYTHING, stand in line for the iconic Primanti Brothers sandwich shop. Worth the wait!
Love Pittsburgh!

Day trip

By Kimberlya68 |

Day trip it was ok - the coffee shop and food was good especially the fish sandwich at Wholey’s - very friendly customer service (Anthony), parking is tough be prepared or get lucky, as it is very busy!

Best stop in Pittsburgh....parking a premium !

By FamilyTime23 |

Some great shops...places to eat....way Too many Football shops. Parking is a premium on weekends. A great place to visit 1 or 2 time a year for shopping. Many nice places to eat on the higher $ side.

Outdoor Urban Shopping

By CTMans |

The Strip District is a modest walk from downtown Pittsburgh. Take the scenic walk along the Allegheny River that runs parallel to the Strip District, then cut over 3-4 blocks to the Strip District. The area includes numerous Pittsburgh-themed gift shops, restaurants, and more. Live bands were playing in several locations.

A lively neighborhood in the evening

By Philippe B |

Along the Allegheny River, a lively neighborhood in the evening. Various restaurants, cafes, fishmongers, pubs and a few stores celebrating local sports teams, from the Steelers to the Penguins...
Ideal for ending the day!

Worth the time spent to visit.

By John H |

We walked to the Strip District from our hotel in downtown Pittsburgh - a distance of about a mile and a half or so. This was an easy walk through downtown Pittsburgh. Upon arrival, we found numerous small shops and vendors selling a wide array of products. The shops were primarily souvenir shops, specialty meat markets, produce stores, restaurants in addition to a unique kitchen tools shop. The Strip has a very unique array of products available and the store personnel were friendly and welcoming. We had a very nice lunch at Cafe Raymond (review provided elsewhere). Well worth the visit.

Great part of town - lots of foods and souvenirs

By rich65k |

A must see if you are visiting the city. Plenty of local foods, souvenir shops and Pittsburgh history. We love to buy the local Italian meats, fish and baked goods. Of course, pick up a Steelers/Pirates/Penguins shirt or two!

Nice Sunday afternoon activity

By Khadijah |

Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We started with mini golf at Puttshack then did some bar hopping. There's a lot of choices for bars, good food and shopping. Most of the street vendors sell the same thing. Grandpa Joe's candy shop is cute. We didn't have to worry about parking as we stayed at the Hampton Inn down the street.

Interesting area

By Ellen C |

While visiting Pittsburgh- my travel companions suggested walking on the Strip. It was a brutally hot day but walking in and out of the air conditioned stores made it bearable.
Our first stop was the visibly beautiful and delicious smelling Roxanne's Dried Flowers. This is a lovely shop that sells much more than dried flowers: table linens, soaps, candles, hand lotions, ceramics....so many items to choose from.
Next we stopped at The Pennsylvania Macaroni Company. It was like shopping in Italy. Every Italian product you can imagine: spices, cheeses, chocolates, pastas, oils, etc. A huge store which stretches on and on- we easily browsed for 30 minutes.
Next we explored Stamoolis Brothers -a Greek food specialty shop. We saw huge trays of fresh baklava and other Greek pastries; huge cheeses hanging from the ceiling by chains!...cheeses, yogurts, spices and olives lined the walls. A gastronomic delight. We also visited Mon Aimee -a chocolate shop extraordinaire which sells every kind of chocolate known to man- and then some!
Penzey's Spices rounded out our first trip to this fun area.
There were some clothing stores we wandered into which sold cheaply made dresses and blouses and cheap jewelry. Not impressive. If it had been cooler we would have walked further- as there were many many stores we wanted to visit. We're going back one more time before we leave!

Mostly junky stores

By PrsTrainer |

Nice food places but the number of junky stores outweigh the other stores. One long street but it looked like they were working on a second street renovation

A true feel of Pittsburgh

By kelseybundra |

If you are looking for Pittsburgh authenticity, look no further than the strip district. This street is filled souvenir shops selling accessories, Pittsburgh related trinkets, and typical snacks. Make sure to pick up a pepperoni roll and the famous Pittsburgh Popcorn Company different flavored popcorn.

Great Unique Shops

By Michael V |

A wonderful combination of restaurants, grocery stores and retail. Very unique and different stores.

More Steelers apparel l than you can imagine!!

By greenstravels |

Busy area with stores, restaurants and bars. We visited every Steelers apparel store looking for just the right shirts for the game.....and we found them!! Had lunch at Roland's and it was so good, we went back for dinner! Later in the trip we went back t have breakfast at Pamela's.....a great nostalgic diner. The Strip District is a "must do" when visiting Pittsburgh.

well if you are looking for steelers gear

By Hoben01 |

I was led to believe that this area would have lots of shops and restaurants concentrated here. Well if you are looking for steelers gear at a discount just about every other store was selling pittsburgh steelers gear. There was a good variety of restaurants in the area just about all mom and pop establishments. Since I took the bus out here was waiting for the return but but decided to walk back to downtown pittsburgh in the evening.

Local Pittsburgh Saturday morning experience

By 123jeffrey |

Great way to spend a Saturday morning by starting with breakfast at one of the local establishments... Pamela's Diner, Cafe Raymond, DeLuca's Diner to name a few (our favorites) Followed by market shopping for every international flavor of food. Italian shops are our favorites. Maybe some wine and beer tasting in the strip. Can't go wrong with Primanti Bros. sandwiches. Enrico Biscotti Co. a must stop place for Italian pastries! Many other places to eat your way up and down the strip.

Great deals

By njmomongo |

Great place to get your swag at a discount for Pittsburgh, whether it's for sports team or the city . Wholey Seafood market/ restaurant, souvenirs, spices, decor, it's all here.

Second visit and just as intersting!

By Lynn F |

We spent the morning in the Strip District. There is a wide variety of shops - from t-shirt vendors to the famous Pensey’s spice shop. Street vendors with food and fresh baked bread. There are many restaurants to visit too.

Stunned. Nothing really there.

By TravelGal |

It had a few restaurants and gyms. Nothing special. We went on a Thursday night and didn't get it. Where were the people?????

Fun place for shoppers and foodies

By Magiccat99 |

Specialty food importers , boutique shops, restaurants line Penn ave for a fun walk to explore. Come early because parking can be scarce. Really crowded on Saturdays

One of my favorite places to shop and eat and spend the day.

By pittscott66 |

Unless you've been to the Strip, it's a little hard to describe. The collection of shops and restaurants and people makes for an all day destination. The variety of food and goods available is amazing. Fresh seafood, authentic international foods and many specialty shops and restaurants to check out. You could eat and shop your way from one end to the other. If you go, don't pass up Pennsylvania Macaroni Co. Their cheese selection is unmatched. Wholey's Seafood is another must for me. Many good restauarnats are available, but Gaucho Parilla Argentina will win you over with the smell from their wood fired grill. Trust me!

Don’t miss

By tscheblo |

This area was close to our hotel so we walked. Lots of people milling around with plenty of shop and restaurant options. Sorry to have missed a couple of local stores since they closed before 5pm.

Not Worth It

By pfefmeister |

I don’t get the attraction here. Just a dirty area filled with chintzy merchandise and a few bars and restaurants. The cultural district is better, the downtown is better - throw a dart - any other area in Pittsburgh is better. Even worse, there are no public transportation options to get here. Now, I don’t mind walking a couple of blocks for an attractive payback, but this was a waste of time. Don’t go there - trust me.

Bring a cooler

By Anitra W |

I could spend an entire morning or afternoon walking around the strip. I especially love S&D Polish Deli (stop in for a quick bite for lunch and try the pierogis, haluski or cabbage rolls), but there are so many other ethnic food markets including one that sells alligator and camel meat. Make sure you come hungry and try one of the little cafe style restaurants tucked in amongst the stores. You can also purchase all the kitschy Pittsburgh souvenirs you could ever want. Honestly I can’t say enough positive things about the Strip. You just need to try it. Although we’ve been to Pittsburgh many times, we thought we would do the touristy thing while we were here for a little trip this weekend. We went to the strip District on a hop on hop off bus tour through pghtours.com. There is parking at the strip. We noticed little parking lots all over the place for a fee. I’m not sure exactly how much they cost, but the convenience of getting off the bus and looking around for an hour or two before catching the next bus was amazing. The only downfall was that if I had been prepared I would have brought my car with a couple of coolers in the trunk.

So much to see.

By Resort829473 |

Best place to buy souvenirs. Save your $$ and spend it here. So much to see and try. I will visit again.

Good local shopping

By texas6006 |

This is the place to go if you want to pickup Steelers paraphernalia for a low price. All the shops close after 4-5 PM. You have to go during the day.

Always great shopping and eating.

By James A |

Always great shopping and eating in Strip district, just east of downtown Pittsburgh with lots of great restaurants and shops at good prices. The issue (and it’s a big one) is always trying to find a parking space, even if you’re willing to pay, it’s a challenge. Go off peak hours and skip weekends if you can.

A great destination one day teip

By Theorchidmoon |

Always have a great time ! Friendly people , amazing food and gifts.
Love to watch and listen to everyone. We start and granola Joes and take our time heading to Wholey’s! We park under the mural ! That way we can shuttle packages back to car !!

Great for grocery shopping

By j r |

For us, it would be worth the trip to get a variety of foods to put in the pantry. Various grocery stores to choose from. The restaurants are empty indicating that locals have various other locations to eat at. looks to be the hangout when there is a sporting event going on.

Great shopping, Authentic food, and lively atmosphere.

By Adriana M |

This was my favorite thing while visiting Pittsburgh. In fact, we went twice. Starting here on Saturday morning or any morning is a great idea because there is a multitude of breakfast spots, high-quality coffee places, and a ton of good shopping. The Italian stores really brought me back to my own childhood and I especially loved the Pennsylvania Macaroni Co, Enricos biscotti, and La Prima Espresso.

Not much here other than t-shirts

By Tim H |

Almost disappointing to be honest. Its almost like a staw market and little China rolled up into one. T-shirts and Steelers goods for sale.

Not impressed

By Kathrine |

Walked along Penn Street from 30th street bridge. While the streets between 30th and 26th along Penn St were dirty and desolate, activity picked up around 26th street. Overall, it seemed junky with trinkets. There was an iced coffee food stand with good coffee. Other than that, we were not impressed.

Treasures

By Martha M |

No trip to Pittsburgh is complete without a trip to the Strip. It is a spectacle to the senses. Mancini’s bread, Pennsylvania Macaroni Company, Colangelos...what a delicious treat.

Must do

By Anita S |

Fun to walk around the Strip District and lots of streets foods that you can try. The people are nice and are not pushy.

Great spot to go before a Steelers game!

By Melissa P |

We were in town for a Monday night Steelers game. We visited the Strip district during the day on Monday. Great atmosphere. Everyone was a Steeler fan too and walking the streets. Lots of merchandise street vendors at great prices. But hands down our favorite was the pizza place we stumbled upon - Bella Notte. Best pizza we have ever had. Great atmosphere and service.

A every trip to Pittsburgh must. So much culture for foodies in one area

By Tina J |

Lots of fun for browsing and munching

By tweedybird26 |

This is a fun place that can be crowded at times. There are a wide range of stores with lots to explore. There are very good food shops which offer an "Arthur Avenue" like experience for homesick New Yorkers or others!

Unique shops and food markets.

By VanillaAce |

Plan to spend a couple hours browsing the strip with cool flower, souvenir and speciality ethnic food stores. Great variety of street vendors selling their products makes for an enjoyable shopping day. Make sure to walk down side streets for wine tasting, Pittsburgh popcorn and a cool homemade wood product store.

Fun area to stroll and visit

By Laura M |

While we only had a couple of hours to walk through and eat in this cute area of Pittsburgh, it was time well spent. There were several fresh produce vendors and curio places selling clothing and odds and ends. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the pizza place where we ate, but it was in a type of food hall with 4 different food vendors. The pizza at this place was outstanding and in the shape of a rectangle - delish!

One other great place we stopped was at this incredible fish market. Very fresh seafood of all kinds, and our 9 year old spotted this cool train running on tracks inside the fish market above our heads on the perimeter of the store. Wish I had gotten a picture of this as it was cool!

Great way to spend part of your day

By Ruth Ann U |

There's so much to see if you are willing to walk a bit. We loved wholey market especially the seafood section. Amazing selection. Have lunch at Deluca, Primanti bros or Luke Wholey. Visit Grandpa Joe's candy store for novelty fun mostly for adults.

Sample Pittsburgh ‘s Strip District

Pittsburgh’s Strip District offers a great selection of specialty shops, ethnic restaurants, and historic sites.
During a recent sunny Saturday we headed for the Strip District. While parking can be a challenge, the effort is worth it. The area has great cafes where you can get a cup of coffee and relax. If you are looking for the finest imported cheeses and meats, PennMac is a must. Other specialty shops offer spices from around the globe, fine pastries, candies and much more. Two historic churches are also located in the area — Old St. Patrick’s and St. Stanislaus. The garden at Old St. Patrick’s is an oasis offering shade and beautiful plants and trees. You can pray at the spot where St. John Paul II did during a visit to the Polish parish.

Great Drive!!!

We enjoyed driving around the Strip District last Saturday morning. We had no trouble finding a restaurant for an early breakfast. Love seeing all the revitalization of many of the older buildings. We wish that time would allow us to come back soon.

Great way to spend an afternoon

We spent a couple of hours here after we heard some locals talking about how great it was. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time.

Shopping

There are some great food vendors in this area. A lot of "junk" shops selling lower quality sports shirts/etc. and some that are selling the real deals.

Love The Strip

And this is definitely not the Vegas Strip, but much better! It's filled with great food and markets, particularly the main street through the district, which is Penn Ave, along which are packed one market or shop after another, with some side streets boasting the same. One reviewer said this is a "tourist trap," but only in the sense that if you're a tourist, I would think you would absolutely want to check this out. But many locals go there often as well. It's a wonderful place to get a feel for the local culture, as well as to hang out, get something to eat, do some shopping, and just have some fun. I would never miss it while in Pittsburgh.

Lots of cool things

I absolutely love the strip district! The variety of shops is amazing! If you can't find it here, I honestly don't know where you would look. I have to qualify this review by saying that I haven't been there since the pandemic began, and now my mobility is compromised, but let me say that as soon as I am able to, I am going back!

Eating and Drinking along the Strip

Old and new shops and restaurants lead to choice overload. Macaroni, sandwiches, coffee, Steelers gear, donuts. What more could you ask for? Try potstickers from a little Asian grandmother. Sip an upscale coffee. Eat a miniature donut. Shop for all kinds of Italian and Polish groceries. You can do it all at the Strip District.

Nice local shopping and dining

Nice area to find anything Steelers. Several Steelers fan stores with anything and everything for Steelers fans. Several places to get either baked goods, sandwiches or sit down meals.

Limited parking

There were many interesting shops and numerous restaurants but there was limited street parking. We parked in a flat rate parking lot at the corner of 21st and Smallman near Peace, Love, and Little Donuts (highly recommend this place).

Must eat at Pamelas !!!

But don;t be greedy like we were and over order !!! The crepe 'pancakes' were huge, but we also wanted to try the hash and lyonnaise potatoes ... we left stuffed! Excellent coffee and kind staff. We walked it off after going in and out of many markets and bought all kinds of Italian cheeses, breads and Greek foods ...

Here mid-week; not that impressed

This is my first time in Pittsburgh and it was recommended that I check out the strip district. I'm not sure why other than there are some shops here - touristy shops, restaurants, chocolate shop, candy shop, lots of different food markets, bakeries, stores of different varieties, etc. I was here on a Wednesday afternoon - there weren't crowds but I was told this is a very busy place on the weekends. I wouldn't have been sad if I had visited Pittsburgh and not gone to the strip district... I didn't feel that there was anything here I would have missed out on.
