2 of 15 Best Attractions in Sturgis

Sturgis is the most amazing experience for bikers in the world. The vendors, people and events make this place a must do experience if you travel on 2 wheels. while the hotels are expensive there are many other options like camping at the Buffalo chip. you have to come here

My first time at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It was wonderful to see so many bikes in one place and Harleys, no less. Many shops to buy tee-shirts and accessories and several good places to eat. We spent time talking with the Hellfighters who filled up the motorcycle tanks with gas for free while spending three minutes time explaining the gospel of Jesus. There is a place to take pictures up high, $5.00 for 5 minutes, but make sure you aren't facing the sun. Many artistic designs and fascinating accessories on the bikes. I expected a wild bunch, but everyone was very nice and willing to talk about their experiences and bikes. We did not have time for any of the concerts or many of the activities, yet enjoyed the time we had there. Parking is hard to find, so get there early in the day and you might have to walk. All the paid parking for vehicles was full when we arrived.

First timers!! Such a fun event!! People have been very friendly & helpful. Lots of sights to see, as well as attending the rally. I’m glad we decided to trailer our motorcycle, so we weren’t too tired to ride all over this beautiful area. (It was a 16-hour drive from north Texas!) The weather in August is in in the low 80’s, so it’s perfect for riding and the rally. The restaurants have limited menus, to keep it simple. Understandable. Some of the motorcycles here are amazing! Go and check it out!

Staying at SUPER 8 Motel 4 years .We are treated like family. Keith and Jane treated good as well as the rest that worked there. Mean a lot when you are 1500 miles from home for a week

Yes, this was a bucket list item for me. I am not a biker, but it was fun to be surrounded by motorcycles and their riders. Plenty of people enjoying a great time. The streets are filled with motorcycles and the parking lots are filled with vendor after vendor selling any motorcycle item you might need. Great people watching event also. Glad I visited.

What an even this was!! our first time although we knew people that had gone before, get used to seeing some of the most wildest custom motorcycles you will ever see!! take photos, then take more photos, take photos till the memory card is full!! its held every august of the year, this was the 77th year it has been held, much to see and do,new bike factory rides, demonstrations, the main street is like trying to walk down the Vegas strip, nothing but people every which way you turn, lots of eateries when u get hungry, bike raffles, motorcycle accessories companys, audio for bikes, better plan on at least 4 days to really, really take it all in!! weather is usua;lly great that time of year, son and i had a blast, you don't have to be a "Biker" to enjoy this event, but it helps!!!!!! LOts of ladys riding bikes...Take your picture before going into town of you and your bike in front of the "Sturgis" sign!! Hope to go again!!

After years and years of wanting to, my friend called me up and upon 16 hours notice, we were on our way. What a great trip. Everything is as you've heard. Incredible!

It was our first time at the rally, and it was our retirement trip. We chose wisely. We had a GREAT time in Sturgis, at the rally and the Foreigner concert and the custom bike exhibit at Buffalo Chip, the area rides, and seeing all the great bikes and meeting wonderful people.

We aren't into bikes at all, just happened to be in the area at the same time! Definitely if this should happen to you come into town and watch some people, all shapes and sizes. Bet you see at least two of every thing and not always good!! Bikes OMG, it's a bikers heaven obviously!! Real glad we experienced it.

The Rally and surrounding area is everything you want it to be. If your there for the riding or there for the party you won't be disappointed. Just be aware of the "Sturgis Discount", get your wallet out!

There is nothing bad I can say about this rally. We had so much fun. There is so much to do and places to see. So many great rides, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Needles Highway, Crazy Horse and so many more places you can ride. The town of Sturgis does such a great job getting everything setup. So you can have fun and be safe. Will definitely be coming up here again.

If you enjoy motorcycles at all, this is a must attend event. There are rides to take part in or just enjoy the hills on your own. Great concerts at some of the campgrounds!

I drove through Sturgis on a road trip 30 years ago while the rally was happening - and my how things have changed. It was loud, it was crowded and I think it's something you just have to experience once in your lifetime. So much to see and do and not one thing made us uncomfortable, well maybe the guy wearing chaps and nothing else - but other than that people were super friendly and we had a great time!

We have attended this rally the week before the event , three times the week of and once the week after and enjoyed each different time. The week before ws good as things were mostly open, acomodation stillcheap, not too many bikes and you were able to do the rides without 100 other bikes with you. The week of the event - well this is a must do , put it on your bucket list and tick it off. It was like a massive party with everyone having bikes in common, there was merchandise, rides, and bands amongst other things. It was exciting and stimulating, a great experience .

I have always wondered just what this would be like. I am not a biker myself, but intrigued at something that draws that size of a crowd. We were headed to South Dakota to see Rushmore and things (didn't realize it was bike week when booked) and discovered we would be there during this time. We decided to stop by and check it out. Take a few pictures and soak in the environment. WOW is all I can say. Never did I see so many motorcycles in one place. They were everywhere. I suggest visiting Sturgis during the rally as a bucket list item. 100% worth the trip. Talked to some really cool bikers a s well. All we encountered were very friendly people. A must do.

Lots of action in and around the area! As much fun as you can handle! Amazing to see so many motorcycle everywhere!

26th time we have been to the rally and riding around in the Black Hills. Obviously we love this area. Attendance down this year (last year was 75th anniversary so this is a "hangover" year) but less crowded makes for easier riding throughout the area. Good food, good entertainment and plenty of great people/bike watching on Main street

It was definitely overwhelming there was a lot of people there a lot of drunk people there. I don’t drink it was quite an adventure for somebody that sober one I will never forget. Actually going Sunday was the best day because only about a third of the people were there and everything was on sale it was a good time definitely a place to go to with Sober friends

I have been to the Rally (held the first week of August) the past three years and it keeps getting better. Next year is the 80th Anniversary, so make your plans NOW. Campgrounds and hotels will fill up quickly. The rally is NOT just about motorcycles, it's more about camaraderie; sharing the events - music, races, camping, food & drink, sightseeing and enjoying the outdoors riding some of the best twisty-turny roads in the USA. The rally caters to the motorcyclist, and the main-few blocks of the Sturgis Town center are reserved for motorcycles only - this makes it safer, AND it concentrates the bikes so anyone one can walk around to view them while chewing on a grilled turkey-leg, or an ice-cream sundae. Everyone is congenial and (other than traffic) there is little/no commotion. You can walk through town in the evening and get a great meal just about anywhere, and lots of places have free music, so find a rally brochure and plan your nights so you don't miss anything. Most venues change their entertainment nightly, but they follow a schedule. There are campgrounds that also offer entertainment, one; "The Buffalo Chip" (East of Sturgis) is extremely popular and offers top-name entertainment as well as food and drink to satisfy every need - so you never have to leave their compound - even for fuel, if you don't want to. There are also lots of B&Bs and quaint establishments in surrounding area and towns (like Deadwood and Keystone) where you can enjoy quiet evenings if that is what you are looking for. I have stayed at "The Chip" which was lots of fun. I also have stayed in a (new) Hotel in Rapid City - using points to allay the cost. This is a very beautiful part of the world that everyone should visit, Don't miss the Crazy Horse monument (largest had-carved statue on the planet), Mount Rushmore, The Devil's Tower, Custer State Park and The Badlands National Park, Historic Deadwood and all o\f the scenery. The people (locals and visitors) are always friendly and wanting to talk about something. I cannot recommend the Rally or the area enough - see it!

I posted a review for 2017. Went to Sturgis in 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The city of Sturgis is simply a vendor set up. I noticed a significant decline in vendors starting in 2016. Vendors I talked to who said they were not returning blamed it on lack of sales. Most vendors also cut back on free promotional items. Sturgis is unnecessary in order to experience everything around it. The ride 2 routes) from Custer (where I always stay) to Sturgis is gorgeous. I love Hill City. This year I concentrated on riding. Needles Hwy is a must! The wildlife loop in Custer State Park is a must! If you go around 0800, the buffalo are still making their morning trek. While stopped, I had one come up to me no more than 20 feet from my bike. Stared me down for 2 minutes. I took another excursion a couple of days later in the early afternoon, and the buffalo, for the most part, were bedded down in the field. Numerous rangers to ensure the safety of the people. The 2 hour RT scenic train ride out of Hill City is worth it. A leisurely scenic ride. Took a Sioux-sponsored motorcycle ride to the Pineridge Reservation and Wounded Knee. If they do it again in 2019, take it. Previously did the Badlands and Devils Tower, but skipped it this year. Recommended if you have never been. Mt. Rushmore is nice, but they get you for parking and an entrance fee! Crazy Horse Mountain and museum is a must! I go at least twice each rally. If you are a vet (tell them), you get in for free. Vendors told me Crazy Horse is not allowing them to come back for 2019, so I don’t know what is going on for 2019. I am leaving a lot out, but make sure to spend time in Deadwood. Gamble. Don’t get sucked in where Wild Bill Hickok was killed. The location is authentic, but others who paid to see it said the physical location of the poker table changed with each visit. Finally, very disappointed that H-D moved its rally stop out of Sturgis. Oh, numerous vendors at H-D in Rapid City. Make sure to go.

Scenery of the Black Hills....5 stars
People watching....5 stars
Cool bikes....5 stars
Crowded....yes
Expensive....somewhat
You will see things you will like and some things you will never forget!

this year, the 76th rally will be my 26th rally in a row! if you are a motorcycle person, and especially a Harley rider, Sturgis Rally and Races is a must see, at least once in your life. I love the look on peoples faces when they see main street for the first time, plus the black hills is unsurpassed for beautiful riding. Last year was the 75th aniv and the crowd was HUGE, this year will be much more manageable, so if you are thinking about going, this will be an easy year to get around the Black Hills!

The Sturgis Rally, when you first hear about it,you want to learn more about it,and take it from a veteran of this rally since 1981,it keeps one wanting to learn more, experience more, see more...
This rally brings together the tribes that ride, and we brothers and sisters make it better every year.
If you ride....
You must attend at least once, just to experience the majesty of the black hills motorcycle rally
A darn good time!

Stayed at the Chip. Great concerts great food great parties. Not as wild as some other rallies I been to. If looking for bike upgrades they have vendors from everywhere. Beautiful riding country. Well worth going

I went to Sturgis 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Basically, Sturgis is just a vendor rally. Nothing wrong with this, but vendors are cutting back. Less vendors each year, probably because bikers aren’t buying beyond the standard t-shirt. It’s the riding around Sturgis that makes Sturgis.

More of a commercial event than party.. A couple bars are worth going to but for the most part all about the souveniours and Nik-nak dealers.

My wife and I just left the 2016 Sturgis rally. It was a week of fun, partying, and riding the Black Hills of South Dakota. It is a must do for anybody who calls themselves a biker. For anyone who has never been, take my advice and do not bring your children this is an adult event.

This is a super fun rally. Better than Daytona Bike week, so much more to see and the miles you can get under your belt on a motorcycle are endless. Nice town, friendly locals no matter if its the rally or not lots to do and see.

This is always x blast to see so many people know beautiful bikes, trikes and choppers. The music is the best at almost any location

Lots of fun! Went to my first Sturgis Bike Rally last weekend for the concert with Chevelle- great venue, great prices on food/drinks, great sound, great fun in between bands and activities were surprising!

Stopped at Sturgis on our trip around the US. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Reno Nevada, Cali, Oregon ,Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and back to Michigan. The wife and I, strongly advise the trip, we had a ball. Took a month and a half.

We went down Tuesday before the rally. Vendors were set up and ready. Everyone was in a good mood. Seems there are more kids and families then there used to be

I live in Florida and we have our share of rallies but nothing compares to Sturgis. I say this because it offers SO MUCH in the way of scenery and natural beauty and sightseeing. Tho I’ve usually just stayed downtown there is a BUNCH of campgrounds and they offer entertainment and of course the larger complexes and all they offer. It’s just F-ing COOL!

The event is always packed with opportunities for adventures, looking at all the awesome bikes, riding the winding roads, seeing various attractions, and visiting lots and lots of vendors!

Great ride beautiful vies, fun road and cold beer awaits. Plenty of action on the streets, bikes, bikes, bikes, food and music near as well as plenty of tshirts and other merchandise to help you remember you were actually there, although you may have forgot what you did. Not Daytona, but the ride is unquestionable.

I had a wonderful time putting 3k miles on my Harley Ultra. She is ooh sooo sweet, she's responsive to my touch, does what I want, when I want her to, she never, never complains to me or about me. Always ready to go when I am. I hate the times we're apart. We had a great time in Sturgis again.

The rally is the first full week of August, so the dates change yearly. Every year thousands of people come to Sturgis before or after the actual rally, buy rally t-shirts, and go back home telling all their friends ad family they went to the rally. Not true. Visiting Sturgis is not synonymous with attending the rally. Every year there are numerous riders way out of the league trying to ride the Black Hills. These people are obvious as they speed like made a straight away then slow down on any sort of curve. These are the same people that also cross the centerline on switchback curves. Buying your first motorcycle does not instantly give you the ability to ride at the rally. If you have never ridden a road with switchback turns you might want to wait until you have 10’s of thousands of miles under your belt before going. Every year people over estimate their riding ability. Some don’t make it back home. This year there were more first timers than I have ever seen. Also, there were more crashes than I have ever seen on Main Street. The rally is an opportunity for everyone who shares the passion for riding to get together for 10 days. The riding in the Hills is beautiful and challenging. Of note this is not a family friendly event. Scantily clad women are everywhere and the language on the street can be colorful to say the least. Me, I love it and have been going for the last 14, consecutive, years. All are welcome, but please ride within your ability.

Alot too see and alot to do!!! People here are the most nicest people I've ever came across.. love to goto the loud American great food and great prices.. and love to sit and people watch on there outside patio area! Just a amazing place to go.. should be on everyone's bucket list whether your a motorcyclist enthusiast or not.. great!

You can't see this many motorcycles I think in your whole life :)
If you are motorcycle enthusiast this is for you.
But, be aware, if you are not really a fan, it is really loud - you can hear them all day, all nigh, no matter where you sleep :)
But I loved this, so, planning to go there on 100th rally :D

I am a life-long motorcyclist. When planning our trip I recognised that I would be close to Sturgis so I had to have a look at where it happens. Drove around, had a look in the massive Indian showroom with all the customised bikes. I could almost hear the roar..

Great time whether you like to party or just love to ride. I certainly wouldn't bring my kid's but that's one of the reasons we go to get away and feel free. The area is beautiful and lots of National Parks to ride to with wonderful scenery.

I signed up for the Mayor's ride and looked forward to it for months. The day came and it was more than I could've asked for. Nice ride and some good food and great conversations with others who love their bikes. Saw Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse and ate lunch in Custer State Park. Completely satisfied with it all.

We made the mistake of coming here in June, expecting to find some action, interesting saloons, bars, motorcycles, etc. Dead as a doornail. Nada. Bars and streets empty. Waste of time, we didn't even get out of the car.
Come here in August (if you're a biker), or not at all.

I had an excellent time at sturgis. The ride was awesome. The people were tight. Even the cops were cool

TOP on the whole line !!
We have traveled extensively from Europe to this meeting, were a few years ago already there, we really liked it, many harleys around 730 000.Not quite as many Harleys, is an odd year. For the 80th in three years are over 1 million Visitors expected.

We went down the first day of the rally. I’d say about 2/3rd of the vendors were there this year. We only saw a few with masks and a couple of the vendors offered hand sanitizer. Everyone was friendly and the Covid-themed t-shirts were pretty funny. It was busy, but not near as crowded as in the past. Most people were keeping social distancing.

New ones, old ones, shiny ones, dirty ones, H-D ones, metric ones, and any object related to motorcycles that you can think of are in Sturgis for the rally. If you like motorcycles you gotta go, and even if you don't like bikes it's a heck of a party.

This was our first time to the Sturgis motorcycle rally. It was very entertaining to say the least. It reminded me of being in Vegas but it’s a motorcycle rally. You could literally spend days walking up and down all of the streets in the town of Sturgis with the vendors and even the downtown with the shops. There is plenty of food for all kind of flavours and any kind of drink you desire. Seeing all the motorcycles parked down the blocks in the streets were amazing. It was like a motorcycle show on its own. Literally we did not have one bad experience there. There are countless bars and restaurants to eat at and you definitely will not be disappointed for entertainment. Depending on what your forte for entertainment is. It is very loud and overwhelming at times so if you don’t like noise I wouldn’t suggest coming here.

Just because you are not a member of the Harley Davidson club is no reason not to visit Sturgis, SD. West of Rapid City, SD, Sturgis is a thirty minute drive with an exit off I-90. There is a very large Harley Davidson dealership and service department on the right side of I-90 as you head west. Our trip through the Midwest coincided with the motorcycle rally this year and we were not disappointed in making Sturgis a major stop along I-90. Sturgis is not a big town with only two main streets, but this small community becomes a behemoth once a year. The atmosphere was charged with the sounds of motorcycle mufflers and appropriately dressed riders. Like Hollywood, the word Sturgis is spelled out on a mountainside overlooking this quaint town. There were plenty of cars, buses, RV's making their way up and down the north main street, while the "inside" street was closed off for the bikers. Because of the many sights to see in this area, it is no wonder Sturgis is the focal point for Harley Davidson once a year.

I really did not know what to expect with this rally. WOW what a surprise for me. I was amazed at the bikes so tough and beautiful. I stopped at Chamber of commerce to get information. I unfortunately forgot their names but they were so helpful and knowledgeable. I actually got to sit on a "huge Hog" u can rent Harley's there also. People had me scared on the mean things going on. All I seen was fun and laughter, exactly what is needed during this time of the pandemic. It was also the 80th yr. A time I will not forget on a long time.

My boys love to look at the bikes. The older women in body paint... not so much. Not the best family event

If you are a motorcycle rider of any kind this is a very cool trip. There are a lot of people but very friendly and orderly. I would highly recommend this for anyone who likes motorcycles, leather, music, people watching, parties, free spirits.

I always say that Sturgis rally is more fun than people should be allowed to have. Great time meeting folks you met before and new friends. Everyone is there to party and have a good time. South Dakota has some of the greatest rides in the country and Mount Rushmore alone is worth the trip. Have been there many times and it never gets old.

Had a great time in Sturgis. Did a lot of riding in the canyons and about the area. Did spend time walking the Main Street and visiting some of the local bars. Great time for my first time.

My first time to Sturgis Bike Rally, I was not disappointed. We rode from Central Ohio ! It was an awesome experience, the activities, street cruising, music, and T shirts everywhere ! Was impressed with amount of Police and Security ! Rode to Mount Rushmore, Bad Lands and Devils Tower !

Wow! Hey its Sturgis, if it exists you will see it here, we really enjoyed our time here, and found a few things we wanted to add to our all things motorcycle collection

The most unorganized event I've ever been and I work events for a living. For people that are 1st timers, there's not enough signs or people willing to help explain how everything works. For an event this size you would expect way more information and being Bikers community, you would also expect more camaraderie and politeness. My parents came from Brazil for this and I drove over 1300 miles just for this event and the only thing I can say is TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT!!! My dad has been in the Bikers community for over half a decade and he agreed that this was the worst event of its kind, Daytona is by far a better event in all aspects!!

I am not a biker. I was on a cross country road trip and passed through Sturges. I crave unique experiences I can't find in my home town of Philadelphia PA. The motorcycle rally certainly fit the bill. The bikers and the vendors in Sturges were terrific and welcoming people. I loved strolling through the souvenir shops and the motorcycle museum on Main Street. I had fun chatting with the strippers at the bars in the outdoor beer gardens. The highlight was seeing Night Ranger and the Stone Temple Pilots Live at the Buffalo Chip campground during the evening concert. I highly recommend attending this event even if you aren't a biker yourself.

I'm shocked every year at the number of people who bring young children to the rally. What is the attraction for young kids? Nothing. Please leave them at home and take them to Disneyland. Also, frustrating year because for some reason there seemed to be more people in cars who were so busy texting and taking pictures of bikers WHILE DRIVING that it was pretty scary and had some close calls. If you feel the need to drive a car or truck to the motorcycle rally, please be careful and keep a sharp eye out for us. Be safe. But overall this is our favorite week of adult fun and we return every single year to meet up with our rally buddies. See you in 2018! Can't think of a single establishment in Sturgis that isn't a blast. Check out Alzada, Montana on the Tuesday of the rally.

Anyone who has ridden a motorcycle for a number years has dreamed of going to Sturgis. The mother of all rallys! Most people won’t go through the time and effort to plan a trip out here. And that’s fine, it’s not for everyone. If you want to ride in the Black Hills, definitely one of the most beautiful areas in the county, you need to come out. If you don’t want to look at beautiful half-naked women, or are afraid of scary bearded bikers with tattoos, there are plenty of quiet places to stay to avoid them. But those beautiful women and scary men are way friendly. If you want to find trouble, you can find it. If you want to have fun, everyone here wants to have fun too! No worries! Everyone who rides, should come out at least once! None of the other rally’s even come close to Sturgis. Definitely recommend!

Spearfish Canyon and Devils Tower were both beautiful rides! To be surrounded by so many other bikers was an awesome experience. Everyone was friendly and the food was good everywhere we went. Thanks Sturgis 77!

To go and people watch is good enough for me but there is so much to do beyond that. Every establishment has something going on. You meet people from everywhere and to see people from all over come to one place for one reason is pretty cool.

Awesome everyone was nice. It took us fifteen hundred miles on the bikes. It was a joyrney getting there. And lots of memories made. Lived and loved every minute of it. The best friends who went us was awesome to. And Mt. Rushmore was exciting. The best motorcycle trip ever. Yo the black hills were specular. I would do it again. Open road and space.

Words, and even pictures can't describe the experience of a Sturgis Bike rally. We stay at the Buffalo Chip Campground and had everything at our disposal after a day of great riding. The Rides through area were absolutely the highlight of the trip, but the atmosphere and entertainment was a close second. Just a fun filled no holds barred week of adult fun.

Not for the timid! Do get some riding in, lots of sights, save Main Street for at night, look close at what people seem to be wearing! 👀 an absolute show 24hrs! Bikers welcome, all others beware!!!

We stay in Rapid City so we get a 25 mile ride in to Sturgis which is awesome! Great vending, ample food choices as well as drink! Its the best rally so expect the unexpected! Friendly for the most part and people watching a must. MC enthusiasts are catered to obviously so ride in from the black hills, Wyoming, MN anywhere and stay a while. Expect to walk and possibly get your ears ringing as MCs are passing by constantly. Loud pipes save lives.

Absolutely the greatest atmosphere and friendly people. It's biggest one I've seen and there are so many things to do around it. Well worth the ride from S.C.

Great spectator event. Fabulous participation event. Not for children except those of bikers! Not for the weak of heart. Loud pipes. Interesting people watching.

If your a motorcyclest you must go and experience Sturgis at least once in your life. This is the total experience. The meca of motorcycling. I've gone each year now since 2010. It's like home away from home. I go to see friends I've met from around the world. Lots of European and fare astern countries. I've gone enough time to know where and when to do certain things. Food, drink and the like can be very inexpensive if you've gone a few times or know someone like me. When you go plan on rides to Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon, Crystal Caves, custard State Park, ride the pigtails, Iron Mountain Road, the Needles and so many others. Take lots of pictures. It's a once in a lifetime thing to do. There's gambling in Deadwood. Look around and you can find camping around Sturgis at $25 a day. As for food the American Leagion in Pedmount puts out a great meal (breakfast and dinner) $7 and $10. I've never went away hungry. Really nice people also. If you stay closer to Sturgis down town is a Lutheran Church that serves $7 breakfast that's all you can eat also. Just look and ask. Don't get caught up in the free breakfast gimmicks. It's coffee, and if your lucky a donut. Hope this might help you but be sure to bring lots of money till you learn the tricks of getting around cheep.
Hope to see you at Sturgis this year. Shout if I can help.

This is the one and only. I'm fortunate to have been riding to the rally from the east coast for over a decade now. Every year it gets better and better. Certainly have to do the Main Street scene once; however, I usually avoid downtown. I like the rides through the surrounding Black Hills and if I want to get rowdy, I head to one of the campgrounds. You can go to Daytona, Myrtle Beach, ROT, and Laconia... but until you go to Sturgis, you just don't know.

First time at Sturgis our trip was short but we had a great time lots going on and if you have time to visit the Black hills there is plenty to see and do ideal for families or couples

I had so much fun at this my first Sturgis. There is so much to do and I didn’t do all I wanted to. That’s why there’s a next year and next and next and so on. I felt the welcoming of the whole town and surrounding areas. Everywhere in the Black Hills it seemed was supportive of the biker community and very welcoming. So much to see. I hope they keep bringing concerts and offering a variety of lodging options.

Fantastic experience. Never been in one place with so many people and so many motorcycles. Great escape from reality. Magical. Strongly suggest riding experience.

A must see, l don't ride bikes but the trip is well worth it this is my second rally and the people are friendly

We had never been to this rally before and it was crazy fun!! Lots - TONS of such different bikes there it was over whelming to see. Many, Many activities and booths line the streets with so many vendors - some who have some very unique items and some have all the same tee's and vests, etc. that gets a little boring but keep searching and you can find a vendor or two that has some very odd items that you may not find anywhere else - ever!
So much fun - craziness everywhere!! Not the bad craziness but busy, busy, busy.

This was a bucket list item even though I'm not a big drinker or partier. I was pleasantly surprised that in the actual town of Sturgis though busy was very tame. There was very few scantily clad women wandering around, way less than I had expected. I've heard the campgrounds are different but we stayed in Rapid City at the Air Base. It appeared to be a couples event with the average age 60 plus. Everyone was very nice. So even if you don't drink much there is LOTS of vendor booths, shopping and music but the outside bars do allow smoking. Most of the fun of Sturgis is all the other rides you go on (Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower, Spearfish, Badlands etc) and meeting new people.

The experience was amazing, been wanting to ride to Sturgis since I was fifteen years old hanging out in the Harley store in Barstow, CA, now 62 years old and finally made it. Two friends and I rode from Desert Hot Springs, CA and had a blast there was not enough time to see or do everything but there is always next year, already planning for it.

We were in Sturgis for business, and we had a rental car. So this review is by someone who doesn't own a bike, but likes motorcycles. We don't drink either, so keep that in mind. We found parking on a side street near Main. We walked to Sturgis Harley Davidson for some shopping. Walked over to Main Street to get some lunch at a family restaurant. Looked around at some of the shops. Most of them are tattoo parlours, bars, souvenir shops. People watching here would be similar to what you'd see in Vegas: scantily clad women and men, lots of alcohol, tattoos, piercings, alternative lifestyles. Many different kinds of people there, from all walks of life. If you have an issue with openly displayed hedonism, then I wouldn't bring any kids. I did see a few grade schoolers, but not many. I felt safe going there. Plenty of police to keep the crowds under control. Lots of salespeople, giveaways, and loud music. What people come here for are the motorcycles! Every kind of bike you can think of here is displayed. It is fun to chat with bikers and make friends. Make sure you ask permission before touching someone's bike! Most will let you take pictures. It is very crowded and not many places to sit down on the street. We were only there a couple hours because there isn't much to do if you don't drink or have a bike. There are concerts at night but they cost a lot of money. You can also go into museums there, but we didn't go in because of time. That's my review from a non biker, for whatever it's worth.

The Sturgis bike rally now in it's 76th year is a spectacle to say the least. Even if your not a motorcycle enthusiast this is something everyone should experience once in their lifetime. One small town of around 6000 Pop. that grows to hundreds of thousand's for a couple of weeks every year in August. The Sturgis Rally isn't all about bikes there's a lot more to it than that, concerts by top name acts, Exhibit's set up by most major motorcycle manufactures, the Black Hills scenery and so much more. Let's not forget all the other attractions that are close by, the obvious of course is Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse memorial and towns like Deadwood, Lead, Spearfish, Rapid City, Hill City, Keystone, Custer, all within minutes of downtown Sturgis. There's lots to do and see, get out and enjoy life in The Black Hills.

My wife and I visited Sturgis in October 2017 during our cross-US road trip. We had heard about the motorcycle rally which takes place each August and wanted to see the town for ourselves, and buy a t-shirt.
Frankly, there was very little going on and there is not much to see bar the motorcycle museum, a few shops and bars.
However, we made the best of it and chatted with several shop-keepers who brought the rally to life for us. In the end, we were glad we went. And we bought two t-shirts...
If my review has helped you, please give me a "Helpful" vote - thank you.

The granddaddy of them all, beer , booze , broads! Dudes!
Nice bikes, from antique to full blown customs!! E part of the scene!!!! Don’t forget your camera!! Look real close at the body paint!!!👁🌴

Myself and my wife did the ride with the locals bike run on the first day. First off in my opinion they are not experienced riders, also it was very unorganized. They had us all meet in terms court parking lot, and people were constantly getting left behind because the leaders would blow through lights when the lights were yellow instead of stopping which in turn caused some who were in rear to catch the red light,,then instead of them pulling over they just kept going. They would switch lanes and go around other cars and bikes, it's like hello you do have other bikes that are on the run here. Then they did not keep to the original route, they took us to this bar that they knew the owners which was not on the route , I think they did that to make them money off us and to kiss up to them. Then they had us back tracking on the same road we already were on all because they wanted to stop at the bar there friends owned unreal. Then at the end we were all supposed to meet at a park down town which no one knew where it was at, so unorganized. People got lost because again the leader would blow through lights and others would get stuck at the red light. I have been riding for 30 years and this was by far the worst , unorganized, run I was ever on. What a waste of my time and money.

This was my first Sturgis Rally. We stayed at Buffalo Chip's Bear Butte Campground. Beautiful bikes and trikes everywhere. I was disappointed that 80%+ of those bikes were trailered in. Many good bands played the town and at surrounding campgrounds. This year 2018 I saw Steppenwolf, Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Lita Ford, Eric Church and many more at Buffalo Chip. Crazy, crazy fun. Lots of vendors and motorcycle dealers. Clothes, jewelry, motorcycle accessories and all kinds of patches.

Sturgis is always good for a good time, especially during the rally. The entire region becomes one big show. Concerts, bar scene, food trucks, vendors galore. Pretty much everything pertains to Harleys and Indian motorcycles, but it is all great. One big souped up extended never-ending party.

We are working on planning our third trip this year. Every trip has been great. Riding in the Black Hills, Rushmore, Devil's Tower, the Badlands, and the rally itself is all great. We have always found that the majority of the people are friendly and helpful. Each trip we learn more about the area, and it just makes the next trip even better.

The people there were great and I visited some great restaurants. The parks and views were so beautiful.

My wife and I rode out with some friends . Had the best time met a lot of great ppl along the way.even if you don’t ride it is still a great time . Scenic views all over .

The 1st thing you need to understand about Sturgis is it is for everybody. It can be for families or it could be for super adventurous couples. You need to pick your campground based upon what you hope to get out of Sturges.. You don't want to take your family to the Buffalo Chip for example. However if you are a super adventurous couple looking for the party atmosphere you don't want to go to the family camp grounds either. The cost will depend on if you are going to tent camp or if you're going to pay for full accessories. We budgeted $5000. That covers everything from the gas to get there to the place to stay and food and drink. We are a couple and we like the semi adventurous but don't want to go all the way to the Buffalo chip. So we go to Glencoe which is a super fun adult only campground. Good luck!

I heard great things about this place. But when we arrived we saw a confederate flag flying. Even before BLM I found this off putting and would most likely they don’t want me there anyway.
Being this is not a confederate state or a southern state I could not remotely buy into the fact that this was a form of southern pride. )I try to be understanding)
I voted with my dollars! Go up the street to Days End. Big open place. Cool artifacts They Didn’t have concrete pads. But it is level.

I love Sturgis I have been at rally 3 times and was always good time, I met people from all over the world, Black Hills are beautiful and time is never enought

We enjoyed our few days here. We loved the Harley Davidson's and even took a test ride on a couple of them. The demonstrations of bicycle safety were awesome as well as watching the experienced drivers. Looking forward to coming back again.

Attended the Sturgis motorcycle rally for 5he fifth straight year. Always have a great time and 2017 was no exception. You get to see more Harley’s in one location than you can imagine. Lots of great vendors for anything you can possibly imagine. The town is totally detracted into making the experience of the rally the best possible. Have reservations made for 2018

Great time had by all. Smaller numbers attending this year. Always a good time with many exciting things to do and see.

Do it!!!!!
This has been on my bucket list since the 80’s. Finally did it. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Dream come true. I recommend to anyone who has ever wanted to do Sturgis Rally to do it!!! Lots to do. Good food. Cool bikes. Fun rides. Everyone is so friendly. Not sure what took me so long to do it (as I am an avid traveler) but I will definitely go back next year.

If you're a biker and have a particular passion for Harley Davidsons then you'll be in heaven here during bike week.
Plenty to keep you occupied whatever you're into.

This was a first time visit for the 77th annual Sturgis Rally. I was certainly on stimulation overload. The roar of the many many bikes and uniqueness of all the people was well worth the visit. A bikers dream. Tons of venders and people watching at it's finest.

We went to the 75th as a bucket list thing and since then, every year! Without a doubt, the best rally there is. The Sturgis rally is like any other large gathering or city, if you're looking for "the garbage", you can find it, but, it you're there for good clean fun, you'll find that most of Sturgis can be described as such. My wife actually said, "I thought this place was supposed to be crazy?".
The beauty of the rally is not Sturgis per se' but the adjoining towns and rides such as Spearfish, Deadwood, Needless Highway, The Badlands, Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc., plus great concerts at The Buffalo Chip and Full Throttle. If you're into staying n town, the bars and even the vendors are like no where else. The entire town is packed and alive.
This year, I will be riding out to The Beartooth, Yellowstone, MIllion Dollar Highway, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Yosemite, Death Valley, the California coast, Glacier National Park (awesome!) and back to Sturgis.
The Sturgis rally is an event, an event to ride the beautiful Western United States. Life is too short, don't pass up the chance to ride the West and Sturgis ... simplh incredible experience!

A must attend once in your life .
Plan ahead to schedule your rv spot or hotel room.
Bring your blue jeans and smile.
Leave the kids at home for one on one with a fun get away with spouse.
Enjoy the beautiful scenery and lots of great folks.

If u haven't been , your truly missing an experience of a lifetime.
World class concerts every day at several different venues for 10 days in a row. Over 20 bands playing live every single night. Several different motorcycle races daily at 3 different venues. Motorcycle shows at 10 different venues almost daily. Motorcycle stunt shows daily. Test rides daily from over 6 motorcycle manufacturers. Enough t-shirt and excessories stands to blow your mind. Celebrities everywhere, some riding , some playing , some doing meet and greets and autographs. I did not attend Woodstock but this blows any event away anywhere. Massive bars with 5 that are a city block long and wide. And a couple more that are half a block in size and dozens of other watering holes to Quinch your thirst. Bikes, Babes and booze and music of every type. roll , country , rap , blues, southern rock , and many styles of rock n roll. This is my 24 year attending and my 21st consecutive year .
Hope to see you all here some day

Well been many years of biking before finally getting here. This was the 79th rally some record. Nothing prepares for the shear volume of motorcycles with everyone in good spirits and there to have a great time. Traders were in abundance everywhere and the excellent weather topped off a great must do visit.

Wow, 10 days of biker mayhem. What a blast. Thanks for all you do to make this a wonderful safe event. The town should be commended for the entire process, well done

Just a good time no matter what! I love people watching & this is a great place for that! Thanks Sturgis!

This was my first trip to sturgis during the rally and I learned alot, I stayed too far from sturgis and arrived too late in the week, thinking the events were on the weekend, well I quickly learned its all week and by the weekend most of the events are done

What an experience! So much to see and do! Can't wait to go back! The food, entertainment, people, accommodations. The whole package was amazing!

3rd year to Sturgis for the rally. Not disappointed! Beautiful bikes, beautiful scenery, and beautiful people! Bikers are welcome in all surrounding areas unlike some other rallies I have been too. Law enforcement is visible and watching however you maintain and obey traffic laws they don’t bother you. Bring some extra cash as drinks can be pricey or locals can direct you to some cool out of the way more reasonable places. Lots of vendors as well. Most bars have bands all day and night , no cover charges. Always something going on! Ride a couple hundred miles in any direction, and you will find a large group having fun! Traffic can be bad especially in town. Weather varies. Very hot during the day usually, cold at night. Storms with huge hail pop up quick. Inexperienced riders should use caution. Many of the areas have extreme turns and more advanced riding conditions. Some reviews are commenting about the rally not being family friendly. This is a bike event! For those that have never attended any bike rallies there are things going on that if you are easily offended this isn’t going to be the place for you! I would not recommend bringing children! It is not geared toward them at all.
There is drinking, partying, and you will see some female body parts. It is loud and you may hear some cussing. So again if that upsets you its probably not the place for you.
Some reviews are asking about the “safety “ during the event. I couldn’t think of a safer place to be than with a group of thousands of bikers! 😉 I have never seen any trouble.
If this sounds fun to you, start saving now and see ya there next year! Definitely worth the trip!

Fun time. Vendors for everything bike related. Really crowded, but friendly crowds. Lots of day rides to do while in area.

The rally is bigger then Daytona plus there are lots of great rides in the Black Hills. You really need to make the trip at least once.

Karla and I are here to see Mt. Rushmore and realized the Sturgis Bike Rally was in full gear. This was a bucket list item so today we drove there to see what it was all about. WOW! I didn’t expect that many motorcycles: 400,000 all over the area. People watching at its finest. Every type of vendor was there selling their wares: Harley Davidson, Indian, Honda, Jack Daniels, leather and shirt vendors and food trucks. It was worth the time.

While travelling the highway, I saw the Sturgis offramp. I have had so many friends travel here for the motorcycle rally so thought I would take a quick look. Of course, there was no rally taking place so it was quite quiet and peaceful. Drove around just a little to see all that was available. Perhaps my next trip, with my dog, will be on a m/c and take the trip here.

I spent about 20 years wanting to go and just never having it work out for one reason or another, Finally made it there and I'm telling you don't wait as long as I did! Every day was great! The riding is the best I've ever done, the drinks are cold, the girls are hot, what more could a man need?!
Big brash and heaps of fun
Almost anything goes at the Surgis Black Hills Rally. It's big, brash and in your face. All things bike on display, bike activities and t shirts galore. Best pastime - people watching, and there's plenty of sights. It's a must for bikers
