Beautiful garden in mid to late summer and early fall! Cool water features with fish and waterfalls.

An hour is probably enough to stroll through this free, volunteer-planted garden. But better yet, bring your lunch and enjoy one of the benches. On the Saturday we visited, it was quiet with few people - peaceful. Well worth a visit!

Sunken gardens is a beautiful place to visit during Spring and Summer. The plants and flowers are very beautiful!

I lived right down the street from Sunken Gardens and would often go there just to have some quiet time.
In the Spring, the flowers were just gorgeous and smelled wonderful. As a resident, I spent many an afternoon hanging out and enjoying the ambiance.

This place is historic and beautiful. We came in early spring so only saw a few daffodils. There was water in the fountains so that was nice but the bathrooms are not open till April 20th.
This place is a stop on the way to the bigger walking areas across the street, not a destination. If you go with that mindset then you will come back happy.

Nestled in the midst of Lincoln, the Sunken Gardens was one of the true surprises on our recent trip to the city. The park had ample parking, easy to navigate walkways, and a plethora of vistas to delight the senses. I was really struck by the metal dome of the pavilion with its scenes of Nebraska farm and urban life, wildlife, and more. This made for a pleasant early evening escape from the bustle of business. Allergy sufferers beware, though: I made it through the entire circuit of the pathways and left just as my eyes began weeping so if you are sensitive to flowers in abundance, come prepared. It was time worth spent, though, to admire the fish, the sculptures, the water features, etc. #OptOutside

Sunny warm evening at the gardens and foliage in full bloom and fragrant. Lots of variety and contrast thru out our walk

Sunken Gardens was a wonderful surprise! The main garden was very lush and full of mature annuals. The variety of plants and colors was great and the layering of the different types of plants was tremendous. We crossed the road to the rotary club rose garden which was not as impressive. We spent about 45 minutes - 1 hour total.

The trips here always amaze me with the vatiety of species and plants not indiginous to the area ( some of the plants are geen housed during yhe winter). The colors and textures well arranged, the park us super clean and well kept ( primarily by voluteers ans donations) Great photo ops at different times of the day. Many wedding transpire here if thats any clue to the caliber of a park/ garden it is.

The reviews and all the pictures make this a place to be seen. Unfortunately during our visit in May, it did not look good at all.

Beautiful gardens and ponds. Nice central location near capital.
Would consume only about 30 minutes or so since it is small. Mostly annuals.

This is a well-known park in the middle of the city. You feel like you're a million miles away though. Absolutely beautiful no matter what time of year you visit.

Looking the best I've seen in a few years. Very clean. Multiple pathways. Won't take a long time (30 minutes) for you to explore, admire, & enjoy. Outdoors in the Nebraska wind is a safe bet in these virus times.

Wonderful variety of beautiful flowers. Every year volunteers help plant the annual flowers. Many couples get married here because of the nice setting.

These gardens would be beautiful in the middle of summer, but late May was a little too early still. Not all of the flowers were planted yet and those that were, were very small. It is a nice little area for a 15-20 min walk. I also enjoyed the koi ponds - especially when the koi would follow me around the pond (I assume some people feed them).

I visited Sunken Gardens with my husband, we got there around sunset and still got great photos. The garden isn't completely lit up but it does have an area that is lit and around the garden there is light posts. There is no charge to see this garden or time limit, so we took our time sitting and relaxing there. It's a beautiful place with a large variety of plants and flowers and there is a pond area with Koi fish as well.

This is a small garden hidden from view near a busy road, and not that easy to find. But it is very much worth the trouble. The garden is filled with wonderful plants, flowers and ponds which left us saying “Wow” when we first saw it. Then 20 minutes walking round admiring everything and smelling the aromas was a lovely experience. Go see and enjoy.

Simply awesome .The time spent by the volunteers is simply amazing. Definitely a must do if your in town

Nice and quaint garden with a variety of flowers. Sometimes there is also local artwork being sold which is nice to see. There are Koi in the ponds!!

We stopped on a request by my daughter...she visited with her grandparents 30 years ago. We found the place with a few missed turns. Hint: It is in a residential area just west of the zoo. Beautiful place that is very peaceful. Not a big park, but well done. It won't take long to see this park, but it makes a hectic Lincoln visit easier to digest.

Visit during the spring and summer are the best times to maximize the blooming of all the flowers. Parking is available, but can be a bit of a challenge.

An absolutely beautiful garden in the middle of the city! The grounds are wonderfully maintained and include flowers, trees, and water features. It isn't a huge place and can easily be seen in an hour (two if you take as many pictures as I did) and was comfortable even on a very hot day.

The gardens were gorgeous! Loved the ponds, the variety of flowers, and the pretty neighborhood it's tucked into.

This is a beautiful garden right next to a busy road. It’s pretty and well tended, but small and not peaceful due to the traffic noise. Still worth visiting though. Parking is free and there is no admission fee.

Beautiful and tranquil. Always love coming down. Spring hosted lots of tulips. During the Summer time there is a wonderful variety of flowers.

This is a very enjoyable day visit. We watched The Great Eclipse of 2017 here. The gardens and statues were amazing. Very vivid colors and extremely well kept.

Not much to say, except that it’s a nice diversion on a warm day. Lots of flowers and fish ponds to look at. Thirty minutes is about the right amount of time to allow.

The gardens are absolutely beautiful and a wonderful oasis in the middle of the city! One of our favorite places to go when we are in Lincoln.

We visited here for about 30 minutes, small but beautiful gardens. Parking on side street is probably easiest if you are in a vehicle larger than compact. Free entrance, though donation box is available. Dogs allowed on leash, ours was the only one there while we were there. Great place for pics!

I am constantly amazed when I find people who live in LIncoln and have not yet been to the Sunken Gardens. It is a neat place to take special occasion photos, enjoy a picnic lunch or just relax and take in the serenity. Located on the corner of 27th and Capital Parkway, it is easy to get to and a fun free activity suitable for all ages. Built in 1930, during the depression the project turned a former dump into a gorgeous destination.
Free Parking is available on both sides of the garden. Take all young or old as all will have fun exploring beauty. The grounds change with the seasons and have a new theme each year. Wheelchair accessible and Free (donations accepted). Restrooms on site. Take a quick stroll or spend the afternoon.

Lincoln's sunken garden is a treasure.
Beautiful terraced with many flower beds. It takes about an hour to enjoy. It is FREE, across from a rose garden and children's zoo. It is well maintained. Several small sculptures as well. A couple of water features. Also, benches to bv sit and enjoy the fragrance of the garden!

Even though it is spring and the gardens are just recently planted, it’s still a lovely place to visit. Take a lively stroll with the family!

I have been here a couple times. The beauty changes through spring, summer and fall. The hardscaping.... brickwork, trellises, statues, fountains, etc. make this an interesting and beautiful place to visit in the wintertime.

I'm not big on looking at flowers just because, but we went twice. Once, the after we arrived because it was recommended by the hotel staff, and then again the next morning. Very relaxing watching the Koi ponds and people passing through. Historically interesting and beautifully maintained. Everyone should see the gardens.

I can not say enough about these gardens - Well done Lincoln for caring enough to preserve an example of social history brought to us by FDR in an attempt to pull the US out of the depression, while providing unemployed individuals with the pride of accomplishment during the 1930's - An example of government that should be well remembered and embraced - Apparently, the citizens of Lincoln brought this garden back from its own neglect in the mid 2000's - It is small, but lovely - Worth a stop - You feel a sense of civic pride and history while thinking about the Greatest Generation and their trials and successes - If you find yourself in this neck of the woods you must take an hour to experience this garden -

What a beautiful gem in an easily reached locations. The flowers are abundant and well cared for. There are hidden fountains and benches for meditation and just relaxation. Love this place.

Beautiful tended garden that should be enjoyed through out the various seasons. The hard work and dedication of those tending this garden can be seen. It is free to all and not subject to the cost of admission. I will be back to see the garden mature over the summer. For those disappointed maybe they need to get there hands dirty and volunteer in their community to appreciate more what this garden offers.

These gardens were absolutely stunning! It was a really nice pit stop in Lincoln before continuing our journey, and I highly recommend stopping by! Everything was so beautifully organized and blooming. We would stop here again for sure, especially since the planting theme changes every year.

Lots of flowers and other plants here. Tiered flower beds going down to ponds filled with lily pads is very nice. Some fish in the water as well.

Visited Sunken Gardens on a Saturday afternoon in July, and there was a wedding in progress! It is such a beautiful place for an outdoor wedding. The flowers were in bloom even though a little drooped due to the heat of the day. The ponds and beds were full of flowers. It does not take too long to walk all the paths, but there are many opportunities to linger around. for example, the cascading waterfall is a beautiful stop. Do not miss stopping at Sunken Gardens if you are in the area.

Beautiful garden. Every year a new color theme with so many diverse plants. Love the Koi fish in the old ponds

These manicured gardens, exquisite sculptures and floral displays are simply stunning! I loved being there! What a delight! A real place of pride for Lincoln, Nebraska!

So pretty! I took away lots of ideas of what flowers to plant together. And it's free - what a great gift from the city of Lincoln!

This is a beautiful little park with elegant landscaping, lovely water features, and plenty of colorful flowers. There are also several sculptures throughout the gardens. It's small, but well worth a short visit when in Lincoln.

I love to go to Sunken Gardens. It is so pretty and right across street from Zoo. We love to look at pretty flowers. Peaceful place

Lincoln’s Sunken Gardens is small—about a square city block—but in my estimation on par with Butchard Gardens in Victoria—on a much much smaller scale. It is the restoration of an old gravel pit so when you are in the gardens the rest of the city is blocked from view. Also across the street is a rose garden and Lincoln’s Children’s Zoo. It is a photographer’s paradise.

We are involved in hosting many people each year including many international visitors. The Sunken Gardens is a stop we make during spring, summer and fall because we think it is one of the most beautiful gardens anywhere but for certain the best one in Lincoln. Even those people who are not that impressed when we tell them we want them to see a garden leave this beautiful place in awe and understanding why they should occasionally take time to smell the roses and the several hundred other varieties available at this Lincoln treasure.

Had to stop by Sunken Gardens and see the transformation from our Spting visit and will go back again in th fall! Great place to go to walk and unwind and enjoy the vegetation and water!

it is a beautiful garden , I did not expect as many colors and flowers in October ! so impressive. fountains, sculptures, trees and many beautiful bushes and flowers ! the dome at the entrance is SO amazing ! and it is FREE

experience both sides of the garden as both are a nice quiet place to relax at in this somewhat hectic city.

I finally got the chance to wander through this amazing garden and will be making it a frequent stop. The design and flower choices are beautiful and butterflies we're everywhere! The gardens are located at 27th and Capital Parkway and ample free parking is around the corner at 26th and D, this is no fee to meander through the flora and fauna, but donations are accepted for assistance with upkeep. The walkways are accessible, there are plenty of benches scattered throughout, and the restrooms are clean. The Sunken Gardens are must see for all ages and I can't wait to view it as the seasons change. Bring your water if it's a warm day and a bag to clean up after your dog. 😊

This public garden is a reclaimed city landfill. It's located on the edge of the older residential district of Lincoln within walking distance of the Lincoln Children's Zoo. There are koi ponds with lily-pads, annuals, perinials and water features. It's a lovely spot to relax on any afternoon.

We stopped at this small park when we drove through Lincoln during our summer road trip.
There’s a small parking lot, but you can also park alongside any of the streets in the area. We found an empty spot in the lot.
This is a really small garden. It’s really just the corner of a city block. They’ve utilized the limited space well. It’s a beautiful garden. There is a paved path that goes through it. There are a few fountains, and several different types of foliage.
We were there maybe fifteen minutes. It’s completely free, including parking. Worth it if you happen to be in the area.

What a beautiful place for a little stroll on a sunny day. I’m not sure how they keep this so lush and tropical in Nebraska but, it’s impeccably maintained. Definitely worth a visit.

This was the best of the three gardens we saw on vacation this year. It isn't the biggest one we've seen, but it was packed with beautiful flowers and it was very well maintained.

The Sunken Gardens in Lincoln has always been a lovely oasis amidst city traffic with its flowers and fish ponds, but the most special place for me is one that is too easily missed by many. There is a lovely gazebo, itself not hard to miss, but many don't look closely enough--there are wonderful details of the four seasons in the cut work metal ceiling of the gazebo. Stop and enjoy the details-its worth it.

Stopped to visit the sunken gardens with my wife. Nice and beat garden with koi ponds and a water feature. Worth seeing, but won't take too long.

I’ve lived in Lincoln for 35 years and enjoy having the privilege of relaxing and enjoy all the garden has to offer.

I live to go here at different seasons. Great place for pictures and just to admire the time and attention put into this place. I’m sure thousands of people enjoy this through the spring, summer and fall. One of my favorites.

Sometimes small treasures are the best, and the Sunken Garden is just like that. There was a small cupola with a short explanation by the creator of the project of why he chose to do this: basically, he wanted to convert a dreary, run-down area into the best garden in the city. I liked walking down into the garden, liked the fountain and two waterfowl, liked the small waterfall, and liked the abundance of flowers on display. The Garden is also centrally located: near the children's zoo and the Hamann Rose Garden. Visiting the garden is free and the restrooms were clean, but parking is a challenge.

Have always loved going here just to walk around and refresh/relax ! So Peaceful and comforting here.

One of my favorite places to go in Lincoln to just sit, relax, and take in life. Sit and read a book, watch a wedding, smell all the flowers, watch the fish swim, or just people watch.

Right in the middle of everything city hustle and bustle, here we find a beautifully maintained and planned garden and koi ponds. Not too big, but so nice for a little stroll, sit and meditate quietly, etc.

Your whole family will love these gardens. Kids love the goldlfish ponds, and there are a testament to Great Depression era work ethic.

Well maintained and very colorful. Not a lot of parking available but I did not have any difficulty as we visited around 3 pm.

Really enjoyed this spot great place very family friendly and good place to go with young children. Lots of great photographs to be taken for the selfie takers!

We visited in mid July. What a beautiful place, and a truly must see. First of all, it is an amazingly well laid out garden, full of gorgeous flowers. Second it is located within walking distance to other gardens. Yes there is a busy road near by, so consider going off times, or just focus on the beauty and block it out.

Ay their web page says that the garden is redisgned for every station of the year, but we found nothing and a little snow. It is not really something to visit every time of the year.

This is a must see garden. The flowers, trees and plants are well maintained and breath taking! When you close your eyes and take a deep breath the small is amazing. The colors and various textures are bold and beautiful.

Sunken Gardens has always been a favorite of mine. I remember going there with my grand parents as a child. I love to take my own grandchildren there. Beautifully kept.

This area is planted with various kinds of greenery and flowers. There is a small waterfall which was beautifully created and a created contained pond with fish. The kids love watching the fish. Great place to let little ones run for a bit. There is seating around the pond for the parents as well as separate sitting areas. Just an absolutely beautiful area.

Really worth visiting but wait for Summer when all the flowers are blooming.
A very peaceful and calming. exhibit.

We went on a Saturday afternoon in September (prior to a UNL Football game). Very nice park but it was comletely full of vendors selling artwork and other items. The grounds were very nice.

It's an easy to find place, with beautiful plants, flowers, and landscaping. Could easily see it becoming a backdrop for wedding or engagement shoots. The parking lot was pretty small, and the nearby highway is pretty loud so you can't really "disappear" into the garden, but it is a peaceful place with very interesting history. We tried to do most of the top 10 things for Lincoln, Nebraska and this was worth the trip to it.

We enjoyed walking around the path in the evening. There were a few flowers blooming but it will be absolutely beautiful when the tulips bloom!

These gardens are lovingly planted each spring and grow into beautiful gardens in the summer. They also decorate for Christmas with lights. There are fountains and coy ponds great for making a wish or entertaining younger children. Restrooms, drinking fountain, gazebo, benches. A beautiful place to take photos, have a wedding, walk through on a date, or just take in the relaxing atmosphere solo. It's set below street level and feels a bit private despite the fact it's located next to 2 busy streets. Small off street parking lot. Absolutely free to see. Be sure to go up to the top and behind the waterfall for a relatively private tree lined garden area perfect for a picnic. It's located right off a bike path, so you can bike here too. Bring your bike locks as there are racks available.

A nice place to stroll around and look at the flowers. Very relaxing. A pleasant surprise in Nebraska and it's free.

...always a wonderful
experience to share with friends and visitors...accessible,friendly with visual mapping of garden and plants in heart of our city,

This is an amazing place to do nothing and still be involved with the amazing array of flowers and plants. If you’ve had a busy day of working, sight-seeing or trying to keep up with active grandkids, there is no better location to get rejuvenated. And it’s free!

WOW! This place is unbelievable. It’s so pretty. Beautiful flowers of every kind and color. Great place for photos. There is a koi pond with lilies. Waterfall near the steps is serene and calming. The upper level is more of a shade garden with several striking statues surrounded by flowers and greenery. It is free for all to enjoy. Don’t miss this hidden beauty in the middle of urban Lincoln. I highly recommend it.

My daughter and I visited the Sunken Gardens on a lovely but very warm Sunday afternoon and thoroughly enjoy the visit! The gardens are simply lovely - so inspiring! The koi ponds are amazing and the fish seem to enjoy the attention they get from their young visitors especially. The gardens are so beautifully maintained - it was just a pleasure to wander through! If it had been a bit cooler I would have loved to sit on one of the many benches and enjoy the view.

The sunken garden is a part of the Lincoln Park system. It started as a depression era public works effort that employed 200 "family men" during its construction. The garden is compact (probably under 2 acres), but is very well laid out and great for photo opportunities. Admission is free, but a donation would be a good plan. There is free parking.

The Sunken Gardens are magnificent. There is such a variety of colors and flowers and plants all orchestrated to give an amazing treat for your eyes! There is not a lot of parking but this place is usually not very busy except on the occasion of a wedding ceremony. Lovely place to stroll around and take in the beauty of the garden.

An easy stop with parking just west of south 27th st. Always beautiful during the spring to fall seasons. Kudos to staff and Volunteers who do a wonderful job caring for this gem in the city

This garden spot packs a lot of Beaty in a small location. Several different, accessible levels provide close-up and ‘vista’ views of water features as well as a wide array of trees and annual plantings. Great for singles, couples, families and groups.

This is a beautiful place to visit and explore nature with family and friends and take pictures. I definitely recommend it.

What a beautiful garden in the midst of homes. The butterflies were abundant on our sunny sunday afternoon. Glad we read about this on tripadvisor!

While in Lincoln recently for the Eclipse we wandered into the Sunken Gardens.boy were we glad we decided to take a peek!! I was astonished by all the annuals planted by volunteers and maintained by...God? Oh my goodness! This garden is as impressive as any I have seen this year!!! The major water feature if filled with lilies and koi. Very nice!
The steps up the second level surrounds another multi-level water feature enhanced by conifers, annuals and perennials. Blooms abound...everywhere...this garden shouts color, design, and balance!! thanks
O! price? free and free parking!!

Very nice and accessible. Enjoyed some quiet time with family. Easy to find with good parking. Koi fish pond was fun watching fish.

You don't have to be a gardener to love this, although gardeners perhaps love it more. I spent so many happy hours here with my parents.

We stopped at the Sunken Gardens while passing through Lincoln. Although not very big, this garden is beautiful and more than worth the time.

With black and white picture of a young couple (my parents) and their 4 children (ages 3,5,6,and 8) in hand from 1953 my sister and I spent 2 enjoyable hours locating where the pictures were taken. I have not been to this park since 1957 and the garden has changed, but we were still able to locate the picture locations. Right now spring is just starting to show it's beauty. Numerous tulips have been planted and are starting to bloom in various degrees. Trees are budding and some blossoms are opening. Remaining landscaping is currently ongoing but for us this was not a distraction. It was an awesome time and a fantastic journey down memory lane.

The Sunken Gardens are alive with colors and fragrance and should be a must on anyone’s list who visits Lincoln if they like gardens. All the flower beds are well cared for and the variety is outstanding. A perfect place for a peaceful visit.

Brought our girls from Kansas and took some lovely photos. I cannot wait to process them. Loved that we could go to the gardens and then to the zoo.

When I first moved to Lincoln two years ago the flowers were yet to bloom so I couldnt get the whole experience. However, now as I have taken many walks both during the day and at night with my wife Kylin I can safely say that this my favorite place in Lincoln, Nebraska. The volunteer gardeners and staff do a great job taking care of this enchanting place. I hope that other people can truly appreciate as much I do this fantastic place in Lincoln, Nebraska. I highly recommend this place to all couples for date nights and for those who just enjoy flowers

The flowers were all gone because it was too late in the day, but I enjoyed the walk and the history.

An absolute treasure in the middle of the city! After living in Lincoln for almost a year, I finally decided to stop and take a closer look at this beautiful oasis. The colors are breathtaking and the amount of planning and upkeep must be extraordinary. Anyone who gardens or appreciates nature or beauty should spend some time in this tranquil setting.

We are so happy we did not pass this up and found time to enjoy the beauty of this garden. So many butterflies, I was in heaven with all the many flowers, butterflies flying around, a dragonfly, and I saw a hummingbird, a true delight to my eyes. It surely is a hidden gem. A must see and do. The volunteers should be proud of their Sunken Garden. Truly magnificent. Thank you.

A very nice place in nice weather. Lots to see. A little close to the road. Popular attraction. Go across the street to see more of Lincoln's parks and maybe the zoo too.

The Sunken Gardens was absolutely beautiful!!!!! I can’t imagine the upkeep on this. Everything was placed just perfectly.

Located at the intersection of two busy streets, hidden behind trees and "sunken", Lincoln's Sunken Gardens is a treat for the eye and the soul. Extraordinary plantings changing with the growing seasons, wide walkways, water features, areas for contemplation. Stop for a half hour or hours and be revived.

I love going to the Sunken Gardens several times a year. Every season shows a different view of nature. I would say late July and August are the best times to see the beauty of the garden. Take your time and enjoy everything and realize the efforts of a small number of people make it all possible.

lovely place, well worth a visit, take a camera, stroll along the walkway and check out the flowers -

Small sunken garden with a few large koi ponds and early stage flowers. Beautiful photo ops throughout. Should be outstanding when flowers mature a little bit more. Across the street from a very nice Hamman hybrid rose garden and city zoo. In total, a great place to spend an afternoon.

Was really excited to see this gem after reading reviews. While it is a nice garden area, it could use some additional love, especially the fish ponds which were murky. Overall it is a nice area to take a walk, read a book, or perhaps to have a picnic.

My mind was blown by all of the beautiful trees; flowers; butterflies, the pond, and the lilypads. The perfect setting for a date.

We read about this place when we searched what to see in Lincoln. We were stunned by the beauty of the place. Lots of butterflies. The plants were placed with great care and every plant was healthy and well cared for. I sat for a long time by the lily pond photographing dragonflies. Probably the best garden I've been to. Very romantic and peaceful.

Unusual flower garden with pools, statues and a rock waterfall. It is a two level area of flowers and walk ways.

Beautiful! Nice walk around to see nature and artwork. Even saw a bunny. Make this a stop in Lincoln. You will be glad you did.

We’ve visited several times and are always impressed with all of the hard work that is clearly put into each season’s designs.
Great place for families, couples, anyone. You can spend as little as 15 min or several hours, walking the different levels, sitting on the benches, enjoying the fish pools, taking in the natural beauty all around.
I love this place.

The docent was super helpful and knowledgeable. Butterfly were flying all over. Its a great place to get out and walk around. Its an easy walk, it a 30 min visit.

Every year they plant different things and have beautiful designs...it’s a must go see towards late summer when everything full grown and colorful. Beautiful place to visit and take pictures.

The sunken gardens is what is says, beautiful plants, bushes, and pond areas sunken in a nice area of Lincoln. Although the streets next to the garden are busy therefore noisy, it doesn't distract too much from the view.
This is a good place to go on a date or bring young children to label flowers.

Pleasant and restful walk in this very nice garden. Sculptures were very fun. Tulips were already in bloom.

Beautiful relaxing and calming place. Full of color and wonder. Peaceful pond and full of butterflies.

Sunken Gardens is a beautiful space to walk around in. During season, the flowers are well placed, full and gorgeous. Paths line the space to walk around in. Coy ponds with lillies and sculpture. Just a wonderful place to visit. There is no charge to visit.

A must see when visiting Lincoln. Absolutely beautiful garden with lovely Koi Pond. The entire garden is small, beautifully landscaped, and so peaceful. If I ever go back to Nebraska would definitely visit this little beauty again.

This park is an oasis in the city. Beautiful, quiet and tranquil. Great place to walk and take some time to sit and enjoy the gardens along with the Koi ponds. Restrooms were clean and available.

Bountiful blooming flowers in a wide variety of colors was delightful. So many different plants and so well groomed. Clean and pleasant areas to sit as you walked around. Area is compact enough that a walker can be used to traverse the lower level. Lovely in summer. Would like to visit this spring.

This site is so beautiful, myself and wife was able to go here on a date and it was amazing, we strolled around and was in a peaceful place.

Stopped by this beautiful sunken garden on a hot July day. Flowers blooming, fish playing, children having a ball on the grass. Truly a hidden gem in Lincoln.

Stop by when in town. It’s a great spot to visit. Very beautiful with lots of flowers and a couple of ponds. Worth checking out.

What a delightful time of year to visit. Well worth my less than 30 minutes stop. It’s a sweet and refreshing sojourn on the edge of a neighborhood and busy street.

We were disappointed in Sunken Gardens, we were expecting to see beautiful gardens, it was far from that. The flowers were sparse and in bad shape. Nothing like the pictures on trip advisor

First rate attraction of beautiful plants, flowers and trees. Definitely a place to see and bring friends and family to. Designed very wonderfully and easy to walk around and see. Parking is handy.

Jewel in the midst of Lincoln. The Sunken Garden was a very pleasant surprise for us! Highly recommended.

Splendid inspiring beautiful was so impressed with statues flora and quiet dignity there I had never been will visit every time immhere

We saw this on Trip Advisor so set the GPS to get there. We were awed by the beauty and size of the flowers and foliage. It was stunning! And the truth of it is that these, for the most part, were all ordinary garden flowers that you or I would have in our backyards....only bigger!

Located inside a bustling city is this unique garden getaway.
Worth your time and attention ...
If going to Lincoln go see the Sunken Gardens !!

Such a beautiful and romantic place. This place brings joy to absolutely everyone. We look forward to visiting Sunken Gardens every year. We also make sure to bring our guests to Sunken Gardens.

A beautiful place to visit any time of the day. Nice place to just relax and enjoy nature. The grounds are well kept and it is just an enjoyable place to go.

It is relaxing to walk around it. It has benches to sit on. Just beautiful. Under the beautiful dome is the history of the gardens. At one point it was a landfill. so make sure you read that.

It's relatively small, but so wonderfully enchanting. It is close to the walking trail that Lincoln is well-known for. Why not combine a visit to The Sunken Gardens with a visit to the Bicentennial Cascade Fountain, the Rotary Strolling Garden, the Hamann Rose Garden, and the Children's Zoo? We have made this visit several times and have never tired of it.

This place is magnificent to visit even now towards the end of the season...beautiful Canna and Impatiens stand out...lots of photo opportunities.

I've been to the gardens twice. The city reclaimed a dump and made it a treasure. Each summer the plantings are a little different and give me new ideas on how to mix plants

The Sunken Gardens are a nice place to take a break during a busy vacation. The domed top of the entrance to the gardens is a fascinating piece and well worth a few photos. The gardens themselves are lush and well designed with some shady spots (including a couple spots well suited to professional family photos) and water plant features. There are some benches if you decide to include a lunch break. Easy to reach by car and by bicycle, the gardens are along one of the City's many bike paths.

Flowers don't get any better than July. Except for June and August in the Sunken Gardens. You can "get down" with the Koi fishes and Water Lilies and "get high" with the Hostas and the gigantic Elephant Ears. No matter where you are you will be awash in vibrant colors and sweet smells. "Not that I can smell them."

Lincoln's Sunken Gardens are a joy whether you are the only one there, or if there's a crowd for an event. Walk the pathways that wind the area, and just try to pick a favorite flower. My mom likes to go there on her birthday, as part of her celebration. Weddings are particularly nice in this location. The annual Art in the Garden is a spectacular visual extravaganza. Sunken Gardens won't disappoint!

Don't even know what to say about this place, multiple levels of paths and ponds and plant and flowers right in the middle of the city AND free and open to the public. Not sure if it was part and parcel but there is also a thing on the other side of the road with more flowers, a big fountain and pool, bike paths and a small train ride. Very glad I took the time to see this!

We were here in early June just as most of the planting was completed. It was very attractive. I am imagining that when the plantings are more fully grown it will be superb.

A truly remarkable and spiritual place to see and visit. I can get lost in the beauty and serenity of this extraordinary garden. Don't miss it.

This is a treasure. This Garden is a spot full of the beauty of nature and at the same time a place of serenity right in the middle of all of that hustle and bustle of the city. We were in Lincoln last September and it was in full bloom. It was gorgeous, so well done. We thoroughly enjoyed the time as we slowly walked through the garden and took in the colors and scents. The paths are wide and most of the plants are labelled. Parking is nearby on the street and there is no charge for this gem. We were alone most of the time. Is it that well kept of secret that the people of Lincoln don't know about this place or are just too busy to enjoy it? Wake up folks!

A wonderful and colorful treat! The Sunken Gardens in Lincoln, NE are a great way to unwind, turn down the noise, and reconnect with nature. The landscape architect has really done a nice job with the color palette and presenting complementary textures and shapes. Be good to yourself, and visit the Sunken Gardens for a lovely sensory experience.

We have driven by so many times and so happy we took the time to stop this year on our visit to Lincoln! 😀
Our pictures turned out great and easy for my husband to get around the gardens although he can't walk very far.

Great spot for photography! The flowers are beautiful, multitudes of butterflies, hidden statues and a koi pond.

Beautiful !!! Just so relaxing to wonder around and check out all the different flowers. Go at your own pace and have on your walking shoes.

These gardens were just gorgeous in October. I can only imagine what they are like in the summer. We said we would visit weekly if we lived in Lincoln.

Parking can be a pain but this place is gorgeous. It doesn't cost a thing and is within walking distance of the children's zoo and a cool park. Great way to end a nice walk around Lincoln.

My family and I stopped by during our road trip to Lincoln during summer 2023. The garden was immaculate. We enjoyed our leisurely visit and appreciated the wide variety of flowering plants along with the animals living in the park. You wouldn't even know you were right in the middle of the city if you weren't familiar with the area. This is a hidden treasure for Lincoln and the state of Nebraska - Make sure you visit!

This is a well kept area that has beautiful flowers, and then has butterflies, Koi ponds and small water falls. Great place to go and unwind, let the kids roam, or to photograph.

This can be a really cool place to visit in summer and early fall when the flowers are in bloom. Nearby traffic can be heavy and fairly loud but can also be drowned out in the garden. The water features are always fun and I love the fish in the ponds. There is also a rose garden across 27th street with a large fountain nearby.

These gardens are amazing. The flowers are beautifully arranged and immaculately cared for. There had been a windstorm the night before but nothing was out of place. We spent over an hour just wandering around the flowers and fish.

The Sunken Gardens is a place to get away from all that is hectic and find some beauty. Take the time to walk thru the garden and soak in all that it has to offer.

We stopped here for half an hour to take some pictures and weren't disappointed. Beautiful flowers and plants all around, plus some small paths to walk, some statues, and small ponds make it a good place to relax for a bit. Worth checking out if you want to get outside in Lincoln.

this is like a little pocket botanical garden in the city. it's free and obviously beloved. we saw a wedding being set up and another bride having pictures taken, some quinceanera photo shoots. the plantings aren't labeled as they would be in a botanical garden, but things are thickly planted and terraced. even in late september it was beautiful. there are also two lily ponds with obviously well-cared for koi in them. it's free, easy to get to, you can park in the neighborhood if the lot is full - no reason not to go.

The garden was in full bloom when we attended a wedding there the last weekend in August. A beautiful backdrop for flowers, even though the heat was pretty extreme (at 95 plus degrees in the sun and high humidity).

Free!!! Worth a quick visit to stretch your legs and enjoy a beautiful walk in the park totally surrounded by flowers and Koi fish. I wish the Koi fish ponds had been a little bit cleaner, but overall, kuddos to the groundskeeper(s) for maintaining such a wonderful place. Great for all ages and has benches to sit on underneath shade trees. Once you arrive, you will see why the name Sunken Gardens is fitting in relation to the highways above.

I'm a big fan of botanical gardens and arboretums and so I had to check this place out. I couldn't stay as long as I wanted since it was raining but I was still impressed. It was colorful, clean, and I really liked the koi!

While visiting Lincoln, don't miss the Sunken Gardens. The flowers, bushes and trees are magnificent. We enjoyed the signage telling the history of various garden structures.

From spring to fall this is a great place to enjoy nature and get in a few great photo opportunities. Even with a lot of people there, you can still find spots for great pictures.

We (myself and my grandparents) visited the garden at the end of September. It was a really great stop on our road trip especially since it was free! We wandered the gardens for 30-45 minutes. There’s so much to look at! We also really enjoyed the two koi ponds.
If you have some time or need a quick stop on your road trip this is a great place to stretch your legs. Although this might not be the best stop if you’re bringing small kids as there are some nude statues in the garden.

My grandchildren were in town from Washington and Texas. We spent over an hour walking around the garden. Such a beautiful and serene garden. I have lived in Lincoln for 3 years and drive by the gardens every day and this was my first time at the sunken garden. I will stop and go more often It is free, relaxing and beautiful

The garden is well maintained and has a great variety of plants and pond life. The falls are a bonus with a winding staircase to access the top of them. Enjoyed the shade area to sit a take in the view. The beauty made you forget you were near a busy intersection of traffic. Close to the Lincoln Children's Zoo which was a bonus. Can't wait to what they plant next year!

A stunningly beautiful garden set in an urban environment.
Quite simply put: go. The gardens are well-maintained and wonderfully inspiring.

When we went the we didn’t know they were having an art show. They had live orchestra and free food. The kids and I had a great time.

If you cannot grow your own flowers or you don't quite have a green thumb. Then take a trip to Lincoln's very own Sunken Garden's for a afternoon get away. All year long, Lincoln has a flower bed that beats all flower beds. You can see all kinds of flowers year round. Go alone or go with someone it's a great get away. I try to usually go as often as I can, mostly to to get out and stretch my legs. If you are a prayerful person, this is a perfect place to pray.
I hope you can get out and enjoy a little piece of heaven.

With a different theme each year, the 1 1/2 acre lot developed in 1930 and renovated in 2004 is a must see if your in the Lincoln or Omaha area. There are over 30,000 individual annual plants. 2018 is almost over, so you do not have much time before they start digging them up to beat the first frost for the more sensitive plants. July and August I would say is the best time to visit.

You could drive right by this and not realize what a gem it is! You park and walk not far, to find this garden that covers maybe a half a block? it is mostly annuals and very nice water features, some amazing banana trees (that obviously get wintered indoors). many volunteers help take care of this special

What an beautiful treasure for Lincoln!
This glorious garden is a beautiful backdrop for a stroll, a picnic or portrait.
The coy ponds look like Monet sat right there for inspiration of the water lilies.

Lovely and free sunken gardens are a Lincoln Highlight you should not miss. My favorite part was the koi fish pond. They have benches to sit on an take in the view. It was not crowded when we went and we took quite of few photos.

It’s beautiful. The flowers are gorgeous
They take great pride in the gardens.
The walk paths lead to beautiful flowers.

While visiting our son, who lives down the street from this garden, we took a walk around the garden. Having been to the famous Longwood Gardens in Pa, this little space is cute but not really worth my time. If I lived close I might walk around occasionally or read a book here, but not much else.

Each year a large group of volunteers come out to put the garden to sleep in the late fall and plant all flowers in the spring. beautiful place to have a wedding, photo shoot and just sit and take in the beauty.

Totally worth it! Beautiful flowers even in the month of August. Also fountain across the street and walking distance to the zoo.

This is a beautiful place. It does not take long to walk around it, but take your time and see it all. This is a great photo stop.

Took a stroll through these beautiful annual gardens. Beautiful! Lots of
Photo ops ... interesting history.

I sponsor flowers in memory of my Mother. There are many walking and bike trails to this wonderful and beautiful place. You need to visit in the spring, summer and fall because you will see new things every time. One of Lincolns most beautiful spots. A must see when you are here!

It was a very colorful garden. The volunteers were just planting several areas but the garden was looking good already.

Perhaps the day was too hot for us to sit and relax in these nice gardens. But one could imagine it being restful and pleasant in more normal conditions.

Sunken Gardens reminded me of Buchart Gardens in Victoria, only in Lincoln, Nebraska. The gardens are free, and there's lots of nearby free parking. Koi ponds, multiple paths, benches in little glades, zillions of colorful annuals, and a rose garden across the street. A great way to spend an hour.

We weren't sure what to expect at the Sunken Gardens since we were visiting in a very hot August; we were amazed to find a colorful, healthy, well-planned garden. The garden is small, but it's large enough to enjoy a lingering visit. Parking spaces are just outside the entrance.

A beautiful, relaxing spot in the center of the city. Love the lily ponds with the large fish. No charge!

Whether you are in to photography a little bit or a lot, this is must see spot. It's a relaxing walk amongst all of the beauty!

Had some time last night so took Uber from our hotel. This place in September will not disappoint. Many areas to sit and relax and plant and people watch. It is not that big but has a lot packed into the space. There are some very basic rules for the garden but unfortunately all do not comply. One rule says children must be with you at all times. Observed one child by herself who climbed over the rocks and was in the water. I told her twice it was not allowed before she got out. Two other boys were in the water and ignored me. Found out the man sitting next to me who was smoking ( Is that permitted?) was with them. Finally he got up and they left crawling out through the stairway which was even more dangerous. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and the garden is very clean. Wish this was in my home town!

A must see. We visited late summer and it was beautiful! Bring a lunch and enjoy the sites. We highly recommend.

My mother is 89 and recently had a heart attack. I got us lunch and we sat in the handicap zone and ate while we took in the beauty. It’s marvelous!
Thank you Rotary #14 for the support of this beauty.
PS you need more categories for types of visit!

Unusual and attractive botanical and rose gardens in the heart of Lincoln. Great for weddings and photo shoots. Interesting all season, a must see in Lincoln!

It a beautiful place to visit. Well design and maintained. If you have a day wandering around Lincoln, you should stop by here.

Checked this place out on our recent visit to Lincoln. The gardens are well maintained and flower arrangement are well done. Accross the road is a Rose Garden. Worth a visit and not to be missed.

We were really surprised at how beautiful and well designed these gardens were. You almost wouldn't know it's there in the neighborhood, but they are a decent size and should be good inspiration for others cities. They reminded me of the type of European gardens you find in France. Try to go on a cooler day so you can enjoy fully. Awesome for pictures and really a must see.

The Sunken Gardens is must place to visit while you are here in Lincoln, Nebraska. This place is so peaceful and you can take amazing pictures anywhere. We truly love our visit to the Sunken Gardens and cannot wait to visit this place again.

If only my garden looked anything like the sunken gardens. I often drive by here and never stop to take a look. What an oasis away from the city. So many flowers to look at. The gardens have a couple of ponds with huge fish. There are bathrooms and plenty of benches to sit on to take in the beauty.

It was our first trip here. It has many types of flowers and plants along with a couple of koi ponds. Was nice to see people and families out spending time with one another and taking pictures. One group in particular had several Casey's pizzas and drinks. Did not make the garden look nice. Otherwise, the place a beautiful!!!

Anyone who appreciates flower gardens— the appearance, the planning, the maintenance, and the COLORS— needs to make the Sunken Gardens a stop when in Lincoln. Multiple levels showcase the patterns and designs and the variety of the plants. Different every summer, this is truly a place of beauty and respite. Visits can be as brief as a few minutes’ walk through to an hour or more examining the plant combinations or sitting on a bench soaking on the comfort and visual delight of the garden.

One of the most beautiful places in Lincoln in summer and fall. Prepare for a relaxing walk around sunken pools with beautiful flowers. I lived in the neighborhood so I'm a little biased. Great place for pictures or weddings has a gazebo. Little hard to get to.

Experiencing the Sunken Garden was like encountering a literal secret garden. I was awe-struck. It was breath-taking. The colors, the layout, the types of flowers and bushes made rounding every bend an adventure. A must-see for sure!

We saw this garden from the road on our way to the zoo so we walked over there afterwards - great place for family pictures or just to stop and look at the flowers. Saw some fish in some of the ponds. Very nice - worth the visit.

Walked in and it just took our breath away. Perfectly maintained. The design of the garden is just beautiful. Don’t know who did it, but just wow. We were very pleased our dogs were welcome. Many dogs were being walked through the park. We took a lot of pictures of the flowers. We would have liked to have labels on the flowers. There were many we’d never seen.
Just loved it.

Very relaxing leisurely stroll through the flower gardens. It can get busy on the weekends. We visit during the week for uncluttered beauty. FREE ADMISSION

The area of the garden is small but the impact is large! The garden is amazing. I talked to a volunteer who advised the theme and colors are changed each year. Just an amazing garden worth a stop.

what a beautiful gem in the middle of the city! Bring a camera and walking shoes. It is so beautiful and peaceful you may forget you are in the city.

Take the time to walk the area and enjoy the flowers and fish. Great place to explore and enjoy the day! Very well maintained area and very beautiful!

Lovely community garden in the middle of the city. It is run by volunteers and is hands down the best garden in town :). Perfect place for pictures or nature therapy.

Love this beautiful garden in a busy urban area. The flowers and plants are beautiful during the summer. The koi pond is lovely and very peaceful. Great place to stroll through and enjoy nature. There is no charge to access the garden. Parking is available on nearby neighborhood streets. There is a small parking lot adjacent to the gardens.

This is a beautiful place in central Lincoln. I don't know the history of this place, but if you happen to need a brief escape from your routine, this is a fine place to take brief walk around and enjoy nature in all its glory. Easy parking, and it's across a busy street from Lincoln's rose garden. Some stairs climbing needed to access all areas of the garden.

This is a wonderful place for wondering. It is so well maintained and the flowers are beautiful. Parking can be tricky but can park and easily walk a block to get there.

I love visiting the sunken gardens and bringing friends and family to see them. A lot of man hours go into planting these beautiful gardens and it shows! In the spring time there are so many beautiful blooms and butterflies flying about. I highly recommend visiting the gardens if you live here or are here in Lincoln for a visit!

Fun to walk and relax beautiful. Near zoo so make it part of visit with Rose garden. Walk around the upper and lower parts of garden and waterfall.

We always enjoy this area when attending the zoo. It's nearby and the kids enjoy taking a sack lunch. The water fountain is also amazing.

This remains one of the most beautiful gardens in the City o Lincoln. You cannot beat the price of admission, it is free, but remains a place to reflect on the beauty of life. Not a place to visit in the winter but I suggest you welcome the spring every year with a visit to the sunken gardens.

Literally..the city used to dump refuse here. The city gardeners knock themselves out with the plantings. You gotta get in there and just sit. Then climb to the west elevation..and sit.

A wonderful cool respite in the middle of Lincoln. The color schemes and care taken in this garden shows as well as the pride the city takes in caring for it

One of the most scenic locations around in Lincoln. If you are a gardener / nature lover, it is a must visit. We have been exploring photography of late, and this garden is a great place to start without having to travel too far.

This garden is splendid, filled with colorful flowers of many varieties. A
popular venue for small weddings, as well as engagement and senior photo shoots. Located at 27th Street and Capital Parkway it is easy to drive to or tske the bike trail that goes right by it. Free parking.

Beautiful garden. Small and very easy to navigate. Located in a neighborhood with limited parking. Great for a break from a hectic day.

Early evening visit. Warm day, since we visited in June. Did not realize that Nebraska could get that hot in the summer time. Just take your time and walk around or sit down on one of the many spots available. Perfect place to take photos and connect with nature. Even with a busy street right next to it. Since it closes late in the evening, that might be a great time to avoid some of the noise from traffic.

During the Spring and Summer, this place is stunning. The flowers, foliage and colors are something to behold. Small trails to walk on or sit on the Coy pond. You'll want to take pictures, bring lots of film, memory and batteries.

Beautiful local spot for many years. Favorite wedding photo spot. Lots of information about the many varieties.

This is such a surprise. Every year they have a different theme. So nice to see plants to be expressed like they are supposed to be.

Sunken Gardens is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Lincoln during the summer and fall. This year the theme was Purple Rain in a tribute to Prince and the flowers were absolutely stunning. The team at Sunken Gardens never fails to impress and inspire people. Beautiful Gardens and an absolute MUST VISIT on any trip to Lincoln, NE!!

Never here when we lived in Lincoln. So glad we visited here during our trip. Perfect place to unwind in the beauty of nature.

I stopped by the Sunken Gardens recently to photograph some beauty and unfortunately had forgotten to place my freshly charged battery back into the camera. So instead of working, I simply enjoyed the space. It's amazing how these gardens can fill up your soul. I felt refreshed after a quick walk around them and promised it wouldn't be so long between visits. The Sunken Gardens are a Lincoln treasure for sure.

The Sunken Gardens has been a favorite spot in Lincoln for many years. I have visited there or driven by countless times. And...One of my friends was married there. It is always breath taking with all of the color. And it is very well manicured and beautiful all year round. Take a few minutes to linger there and enjoy the beauty or walk through the gardens enjoying the color and the yummy floral smells. Don't want to miss the Sunken Gardens!

Beautiful gardens but small. The gardens are located on a corner near the Children's Zoo. It is dense with plenty of flowers, koi ponds and some waterfalls. There is parking close to the garden entrance. Restrooms are closed due to COVID-19.

This garden is gorgeous. Our daughter loved the koi lily pond. They do a great job maintaining it. The gardeners are very talented.

You would be hard pressed to squeeze more diversity of plant life in the space the sunken gardens has. It's a must see if you like anything living.

It is a little gem, very little, but with a great deal packed in. The flowers are changed often so it is good I live in Lincoln because I can visit often. I'm a photographer and I have not yet met the flower I did not like, plus the garden has some lovely sculptures and a Koi pond (but please do not feed the fish, they get a special diet, but they also beg).

Great family place to visit, maybe have a picnic, enjoy the colors, sights, smells and local area on a nice day

Really a surprisingly great experience! I always stop here after taking my son to the Children's Zoo which is right across the street. Parking is close and plentiful so it's easy to stop by for just a quick visit. Spring and Summer are fabulous times to visit - not sure about Fall or winter because I've never been there then. The dome is beautiful with incredible detail. So many lovely spots to sit and relax. Don't forget your camera!

Stunning garden! We went here with our college student son —- just looking for something to do together. Wonderful little place to walk around and the flowers were still beautiful September 24! Nice pond with colorful fish in it. If you have a dog, hold onto the leash!

A definite place to visit if in Lincoln. Beautiful flowers. Next to busy street but still very quiet. Easy street parking.

The sunken gardens are worth the visit - you can take a quick stroll through the lovely gardens or stop and stay awhile. There are several lovely sculptures as well

We recently toured the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln and marveled at the artistic design of the gardens once again. We have visited the gardens before and each year they seem to out do themselves. It takes dozens of helpers to plant the show stopper display. Each year a new color scheme is chosen and creates a lovely area to browse through. Be sure and allow yourself plenty of time to take in and enjoy the entire area.

Well cared for and a nice walk from the downtown area if you have the time. Probably wouldn't go out of my way for it, but it is worth a visit if you are out on a walk.

We were there in the spring with all the tulips, it is probably beautiful in the summer. Great place to walk around.

Beautiful place for a small intimate wedding. Plants and flowers are green & blooming. Natural walkway for the Bride, & room for all guests to have a view.

Peak flowering month is August for the garden. The foliage changes every year and 2020 was more beautiful than ever!

The gardens are so lovely! This would be a nice spot to sit and read a book or have a picnic. We made a stop on our road trip to Colorado. It was very enjoyable.

This was a nice find in the middle of Lincoln. Smallish garden and not really much was blooming (except for some tulips) but a very peaceful, tender garden. It was nice to just sit on the bench and soak it all in.

Lincoln's Sunken Gardens are always worth a visit. Lovely gardens, water features, and surprising tranquility for a location on major streets. It's different every year, and different from summer into fall, so it's worth repeat visits. Occasionally a friend and I will pick up lunch and take it to the Gardens--always the best lunch in town that way. The Gardens have an interesting history. The location was a city garbage dump. A local citizen had a vision for something better, and the Gardens were created. It's free and there's free parking. Occasionally used for weddings.

Sunken gardens bursts into beauty every spring, and a walk there transports one from the city sounds to a remote calm. Across the street is the incredible Lincoln Children's Zoo, which I strongly recommend. That will make for a day very well spent.

Though this garden is small it is absolutely gorgeous and free! There were several wedding parties taking pictures when we were there on a Saturday afternoon. Beautiful colors with so many different plants. They did have a sheet with all of the plants listed.

The Sunken Gardens is a beautiful small garden tucked in at the corner of 27th and Normal Boulevard near the Children's Zoo, blocks away from the state capitol and downtown Lincoln. This year all of the plants seem to have outdone themselves and are bigger than ever. A great spot to relax for a while.

This below street level garden is a beautiful splash of color and relaxation; despite being located near busy streets and intersection. It is definitely worth a visit anytime spring, summer or fall.

The garden's and coy pond were excellent. Very nice statues! When we visited they were adding to the garden and was very professional.

Such a happy place to be. It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon decided to visit gardens on a coworkers suggestion. At such sad times going on in the world at present time it sure made my heart feel good to be around happy people. Donations accepted, free to park and visit. Don’t pass up this beautiful garden.

Love the flowers, all the color, the different terrain as you walk through it all. A nice place to sit and reflect...

Tourist trap! The pond was filthy, you could hardly see the fish! Hardly anything was labeled. Hook line and sunker. Terrible

Great little gem in the heart of Lincoln. Perfect place to spend an hour walking the grounds. When we were there couple were getting married with a couple of witnesses.

We absolutely love to stroll through the flowers and plants in this huge garden area. Even when the temperatures are high it just seems a little cooler while enjoying the sights along the pathways.

This is a must see when in Lincoln. It's very pretty to walk through and easy to get to. Free parking and admission.

This garden is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! We go as often as possible, always bring out of town guests here and take tons of pictures. I love how the pace just slows as folks stroll through the gardens. The beauty demands pausing and appreciating!! A true gem of Lincoln!!

Very picturesque in an urban setting! it is worth a 15 minute stop. Great place for taking photos. The elephant ears are the biggest I have seen.

It’s a nice garden to look around and relax on such a boring drive off of I-80. Best thing about it is that it’s FREE!

We stopped in Lincoln to see this garden. It's beautiful and free! The history to it is explained very well too.

This is a gem. Need to refresh or relax? Take a walk in this wonderful place. Sit, read, relax. Enjoy the beautiful garden.

This is a good site to visit for a stroll through a nice, quiet park. The landscaping is gorgeous. It's also a great place to take pictures.

If you appreciate nature, Sunken Gardens in Lincoln is a must! It features a plethora of stunning flowers and unique plants, plus koi fish pools! We loved every inch of it!

But then again, not a botanical person. I normally don't go into visiting gardens. It was recommended to us.

Sunken Garden is indescribable! Even in Wintertime, that spot is gorgeous, but in Spring walk around those tulips is unbelievable!

We ended up in Lincoln unexpectedly and looked around for fun things to do on a Saturday morning. When I saw this listed, I knew it was on our "to do" list for the day.
We were there in early May when the tulips were just peaking and the wisteria and crab apples were looking gorgeous. We were disappointed that the water features weren't up and running yet, but understand it is a bit early. I'm sure it looks absolutely amazing when it is!
Speaking of the water, one of the stone holding pools was dry and a dad and his three kids were down there looking for coins that people had thrown in. I was horrified that a dad thought it was okay to do that (he was the main one looking!) and that he was encouraging his kids to look for coins. BAD thing to teach kids, Mr. Father of the Year!

Absolutely beautiful and a must see. No charge to enter. The most beautiful flowers and landscaping. The Lily pond is lovely. Serene and peaceful. Amazingly maintained.

the flowers were beautiful . Nice walk . Great scenery . very serene and peaceful. Learn alot about flowers and plants

The Sunken Gardens is a beautiful and restful idyllic spot. Wonderful floral plantings, koi and lily ponds. A great gathering space for families, couples or just a place for solitary reflection.

Great little stroll for something to casually do for those who enjoy flowers and what it takes to raise a garden. Most all the plants are planted yearly. This is a garden of love for the city of Lincoln. The story behind it brings greater meaning and purpose to the gardens. Take time in your day to smell the flowers.

Lincoln has beautiful parks and we enjoyed our visit to Sunken Gardens. This is a small park with terraced hill and waterfall feature. There are a couple of koi pools with water lilies. The gardens are beautiful and mostly annuals. Other reviewers had mentioned donation boxes, which I was looking for, but the one I saw had the top broken off so could not leave money. Be sure to cross the road to the rose and perennial garden.

We were so impressed with this garden. The contrasting colours were an absolute treat to see. The upper path gave you an opportunity to walk in the shade on hot days !

Although it was a hot day outside, there was a lot of shade in park though the flowers around the Koi pond were stressed from lack of water. That was depressing for me to see a lot of plants wilting. I wish there was signs saying what kind of plants they planted. Other than sitting on a wall ledge, I didn't see any places to sit in and around the pond up to the statue of the water lady. A beautiful place for pictures of people and flowers. Highly recommend this place. The public water fountain squirted way past the fountain so it was hard to get a drink.

so beautiful any season. very peaceful and well laid out. Wheelchair accesable and so many varieties of plants. Bricks can be purchased as rememberances as well. Have been there many times and have never been disappointed. Small, but very attractively set out.

In late spring the sunken gardens seem to be planted overnight. Throughout the summer it is the most beautiful spot in Lincoln. Many a wedding has been held on the grounds. It is free to visit and easy to find.

Really beautiful garden! I never seen so many beds of annuals together before. So many flowers and butterflies really nice experience. Then add more than on Lilly pond with koi and a waterfall. We went in and spent less than an hour walking around. Great place to take pictures.

Each day as we drove across the U.S. we look for a place to relax and take a walk. In September we stopped for a stroll at this beautiful garden, and it was a balm for the spirit. The gardens were spectacular, and the setting was peaceful and refreshing. We highly recommend this lovely place to catch your breath, absorb the beauty, and refresh your outlook on the world.

The Sunken Garden is not very large acreage wise, but it is beautiful with lots of plants! Petunias, Hosta, Roses, Begonias to name a few. We also enjoyed the fish ponds with the colorful water lilies.

The sunken gardens are just as pretty now as I remember them from years ago. The people do such a nice job of keeping it looking so nice. This is a must see for those that appreciate beautiful flowers, plants, trees, etc.

Always a place to go and reflect on life, goals, and whoa's. Very well planned out and an adventure for everyone to see all season long. A huge thanks to all that participate in this beautiful place.

The Sunken Gardens are exquisite. A gorgeous place to see, take a walk and enjoy. I have taken my children when they were young and now my grandchildren - we bring breakfast, and then enjoy the grounds. It is also a great place to meet a friend and walk through the gardens while getting caught up, or just taking a stroll alone is relaxing too. I try to go several times a year. Highly recommend

The garden is amazing with full bloom in September. It is a tranquil place and photographer's dream. The gardens are often the setting for weddings and senior portraits. The koi ponds and waterfalls are favorites.

Sunken Gardens is a gorgeous city park. Beautiful ponds with fish.
Glorious plantings & a quaint waterfall!
Beautiful place to visit & have a walk.

Have only been on a walk through this garden during warm weather. What a variety of plants and trees. The plants when I have been there are a beautiful array of many colors and the "perfumy smell" of all the different flowers is so enjoyable. There is an area where you can sit and rest and just have a relaxing moment.

This is a very nice small park. It is easy to stroll through it in a few minutes. There is another park across the street, as well as the Children's Zoo. Convenient location.

Beautiful place to visit. this is a small garden in the heart of the city but you feel completely apart. Quick and no cost to have a pleasant experience.
The bloom were impressive. a lot of work her with so many annuals.
Well work stop of 1-2 hours.

I am not usually interested in gardens, but we stopped here at the request of my Better Half. Arriving mid-afternoon, before rush hour, the Sunken Gardens does not have a lot of parking, but it is a compact area loaded with colorful flowers, etc. On a sunny day, it would be hard to beat the color variety. I'm out of practice with my photography, but this would be a nice place to spend time just shooting flowers. I uploaded only three of a bunch of photos I took.
No fee, as it is maintained by the Lincoln Parks Dept. There are restrooms on site, too. A few volunteers roam the area, and the one we spoke with was very dedicated.
NOTE: There is another garden across a four-lane road north of the Sunken Gardens - not as glamorous, but nice. But you should cross at the intersection crosswalk and be careful crossing this street.

This is a beautiful place to visit. It is mostly flat with some stairs. The flowers are arranged so well that they compliment each other.

There is a pool that is great to rest on the side. So much to take in! Many varieties of flowers and plants. If your on the bike trails, a great place to stop for a rest.

If you appreciate nature, you are going to love the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln! Flowers, trees, unique plants, koi ponds, sculptures..it's got it all, and it's all beautiful!!

The gardens are very pretty any time of year spring or summer fall come see the colors. Great place for family pictures.

We took our kids there to take some fun pictures and it was pretty but not something I would go out of my way to see.

Every city needs a Sunken Garden. This is a beautiful place for a walk, a picnic, a play park for pets, or a visitor to Lincoln. The waterfall is beautiful. Unfortunately very few flowers were in bloom at this time (mid-May 2021). But it was still a must see.

Being a flower lover, I was pleasantly surprised how many varieties and colors of flowers they could fit in one garden. Yes, there's traffic but you start to not hear that as much as you are admiring the beauty. I am told they change the flowers for the seasons. We visited in August, so of course some of my favorite colors were represented (deep fuchsia, etc). My only regret is that it took me SO long to stop by. Now I know!

This is a small garden but still beautiful and interesting. It is easy to access and is free of charge. Definitely something to see while in Lincoln.

This park is beautiful. Fun little paths, tons of flowers, and gorgeous ponds full of koi fish and lilypads. Definitely a stop that needs to be made in Lincoln.

Well-maintained public garden with a variety of plants and flowers and a lily pond. The all-volunteer staff is friendly and helpful.

So we were in Lincoln for a few days and everyone said to go to the Omaha zoo. We didn't want a big experience, just a little peaceful time. Trip Advisor said Sunken Gardens was a top thing to do. It seems like there should be more to do in a capital city (we ate in town the night before) but this was a great stop. Free, easy to find, beautiful and relaxing. Coming from Nashville with beautiful places like the gardens inside the Opryland Hotel and Cheekwood, it was very small in comparison. But for a little bit of peace and quiet and beauty it was well worth the visit.

This is truly the place to stop and smell the flowers. So pretty and peaceful I almost forgot everything else

Definitely worth your time to stop by and relax a few minutes in the Sunken Gardens. The small park has a beautiful water feature, small koi ponds and landscaping.

The Sunken Garden is a good place to go and relax and see beautiful sceneries. The garden is laid out for easy access and it is a great place just to take a walk. The

I identified this beautiful place long before my trip to Lincoln, NE. And it is among our priority place to visit while in Lincoln. We (myself and my wife) visited the garden, & I'm glad that this beautiful attraction (free entrance) did not let us down, Actually this garden was far beautiful than my expectation, and I visited here many times during my stay.
This is a beautiful small garden, in the heart of the city but you feel completely apart. and It is dense with various kind of blooming flowers, pond and even a waterfalls. Every city needs a Sunken Garden. This is a beautiful place for a walk, a dry picnic, a must visit for visitor to Lincoln. It is well maintained with several small sculptures as well, benches to be sit and enjoy the fragrance of the garden!

During the summer months the gardens are very beautiful with nice arrangements of flowers. The gazebo at the main entrance is worth a few minutes study as it shows some of the highlights of living in Nebraska. Often weddings pictures are taken in the garden. If you need a place to kick back and relax, this is a good place to be. Also, it is FREE.
A little oasis near a very busy intersection...
Sunken Garden is located near a very busy & noisy intersection but because of its lower elevation with respect to the streets, it is noticeably quieter... Not quiet enough to spend an extended amount of time reading a book and/or relaxing, but definitely a good place to take a lunch break, admiring the wonderful flower display that the talented folks from the Parks & Recreation department create every year. Parking is not an issue in the nearby streets.
