I love eating at Terry Bison Ranch restaurant. You can get all different types of Buffalo dishes and one my favorites are the Bison Ribs. Be prepared for your table to tip over when they bring these tasty monsters out.

We joined many others this morning to celebrate Easter with family at the Ranch!

The location was easy to find, the building was rustic and beautiful, the staff was welcoming, and the food was amazing with tons of choices for all in our party!

A favorite moment was when Rattlesnake Jack played various Easter songs and invited our 8 yr old granddaughter to play the piano....she was too shy, but did hop around a bit with her bunny ears on!

Thanks for helping us create another "first" for our family!

The train ride to feed the bison was fun. Guide was knowledge and friendly. I was disappointed that they had switched to the enclosed winter train despite the 85 degree weather. You may want to call first as the winter train limits the ability to feed the bison. We had to line up at the front door and take turns. The web pics all show the summer trains.

Went here thinking it sounded awesome. Unfortunately it was not. Overpriced train ride takes you out to feed bison. Sadly people on our train did not listen and the poor bison got pegged by food and screamed at. Place looks run down and the cashier was less than pleasant. Spend your money on a real train.

It was very fun experience. Animals were treated nicely there ( I saw a cute three-legged cat). It was my first time to see an ostrich dance, and a very cozy chicken bus! We took a train trip to feed bisons. It was absolutely cool. Also the restroom there was the cleanest I have ever used. We will come back to join the horse riding soon.

We went for a train ride to see the ranch animals and feed the bison. The driver gave us an interesting history of the ranch.
It was a fun experience - recommend it!

Went to the Terry Bison Ranch with my boyfriend and it was wonderful! Margaret was a great driver and taught us a lot about the ranch and lots of information about the bison. My absolute favorite part was seeing all the animals and feeding them! The babies were SO CUTE!!!! I'd definitely recommend this to couples, families, etc!

It was a cold windy day, and I was worried about riding in an open air train. Surprise! They have some four or five different "trains" - more like self-driven coach cars - and ours had closed windows. We had the train to ourselves. We otherwise had little or no idea what to expect, and were blown away when Shannon opened the door while the domesticated buffalo herd came right to the coach and stuck their heads inside, to be fed red potatoes and pellets - by hand no less! Then she asked us to feed them - also by hand. Wow! What fun! This would be great for kids also. Take your camera! Tip generously! Afterwards, visit the pens to see all the other animals there, including Ostrich, Camel, Burro, Pigs, Horses, Llamas. A positive experience you will never forget!

I took my two granddaughters 6 and 9 out on the train to visit and feed the bison. I wasn't sure about doing this considering that they live in a large metro area and have not been exposed to livestock. To my surprise the immediately started taking the food pellets and dropping them into the bison's mouths. Very shortly they were teaming with each other. While one was dropping the food pellets in the bison's mouth the other was feeling the bison's tongue. They loved the whole experience.

Overall, the place is just average at best as far as the rv camping goes. There's plenty of oil and other type workers staying here....that's not meant to be a complaint, just information. There's also several people who apparently live here year round in their rvs. The sites are close, but not so close that you can't get your slides out. The majority are pull thru sites with full hook ups. They really need to improve their sites though. Our site, 77, has a huge rut in it so, when it rained yesterday we couldn't even get out of our rv. We had close to a 3 inch puddle surrounding our steps nd under our trailer. We weren't the only ones either...this could easily be fixed. The working ranch part of the property was pretty nice. Chickens, roosters turkeys and peacocks roam around freely. There's plenty for kids to do...some of which entails extra money though.

Great day of fun spent at the Terry Bison Ranch. Highly recommend taking the train out to feed treats to the bison. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable, and feeding the the bison was awesome. Also did the one hour trail ride. Loved it! Stopped into the Senate restaurant on site and had a fantastic meal. Will definitely be going back in the future.

Stayed there 4th of July weekend. It was very relaxing, even though the RV park was full, everyone kept to themselves and we had a very nice 3 night stay. Lots of activities to keep yourself busy. Only thing missing was a swimming pool! Drove up Snowy Mountain road one afternoon and saw a ton of moose hanging out in the water near the road, nice surprise. FYI, no shade, bring a tarp to hang on your awning and your own fire pit if you want to have a fire (too hot for fire our weekend). I will stay there again later this year.

Came here especially for the train ride. Very good ride but the guide could have been a bit more knowledgeable on the farm. When asked at what age the animals go to market he said he was not interested in the farming Buisness. It was a good ride though.

My husband and I drove from Missouri to Cheyenne to experience the West. At the top of my list was a trail ride at Terry Bison Ranch. The entire visit was disappointing. The buildings were in disrepair; everything looked very tired, worn out, and dirty. The trail ride itself was less than memorable--everything except the cost--which was $90 per person. If a visit to Terry Bison Ranch is on your list of vacation activities, cross it off and save yourself the money and disappointment.

Great place. Good food. Lots of animals. Dog friendly. They even got to come on the train ride!
I’d love to check out the campground next time!

By Liz |

The bison ranch was excellent. We did the train tour with Jonathan and it was so much fun getting to feed the bison from the train. He was a great conductor. We also did the one hour horseback riding tour. Our guide was Will and he was excellent... I would absolutely recommend to anyone in the Cheyenne area.

By Kara S |

It was cool to see the bison up close and feed them, but the round trip ride was 45 mins to an hour. Not great for our 2yo. Bring another activity to do while waiting to get to the bison.

By DKH |

We love this place. We have been enjoying it for years. We had or grandsons birthday party here recently and found staff eager and willing to have us. They went above and beyond to provide a great experience for us. The train ride to feed the bison is always a hoot!
We will continue to stop by every year for a day full of fun!

Thanks all.

Like the other reviewer posted, they ranch said there’s different restaurants but only one is open and only the expensive buffet was available when we were there. Most of the food were gone and they still charge us full price.

Don’t camp there either because it’s right next to I-25 and very busy and noisy. The train ride to feed the bisons was very fun but other than that there’s not much going on. We we’re supposed to stay for 2 nights but decided to leave after 1 night stay.

I love Terry Bison Ranch! I like to go have a buffalo burger. Last time I tried the buffalo sausage. It was great. I purchased some to take home from the gift store. I love to go on the train and feed the buffalo and see the camels. This is a must stop in Cheyenne WY

We'd purchased tickets during Cheyenne Frontier Days
, when the event was cancelled due to COVID19. I called to see if we could roll the reservation over to 2021 and they said no there are NO REFUNDS even though CFD was cancelled. I looked at our reservation and everything we had signed mentioned Cheyenne Frontier Days with an additional charge over normal reservations and no refunds for CFD. I wrote them a letter and there response was the same. I also contacted the Better Business Bureau they didn't even respond. These people are taking advantage of a uncontrollable situation THE PANDEMIC. Every other place we had made reservations for our trip understood and gladly refunded our money or would rollover the reservations until next year. This to me seems they run a shoddy business and they will take advantage of people. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AND I'D STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND THIS JOINT.

We were surprised to see the variety of animals at this ranch. We took the train ride through the pastures and fed bison snacks from the train cars to the bison. One of our trips included some of our grandchildren, ages 4 through 16, and they had a blast.

By Hannahkraf |

Lots of fun they have all sorts of animals chickens , cats, dogs , bison, camels, donkeys, horses , turkeys etc. the bison were hungry !! Lots of fun

By ladycop210 |

Super cool experience. Chris as an amazing conductor on the train. Recommend everyone coming here. A lot of animals to see and events to do.

By busymom914 |

We went on the 1 hour horseback riding and rode the train to feed the bison. My kids are teenagers so I wasn't sure they'd like it but we had a lot of fun.

By Marti W |

I wasn't sure what we'd be in for when we went to the ranch, but it was a great experience! We rode the train around the property and hand fed the bison! There are lots of really interesting things in the store, and we were able to have some delicious bison burgers there as well.

By Jill H |

Very disappointing. Sites are squeezed together. It appears to have many monthly residents. This place feels like a transient rv park as opposed to a ranch Very pricey.

By Sio82 |

No RV needed! This place is like a playground! They have a train that takes you on a guided ride through the ranch (ask for Jonathan) (well, not the whole thing) so you can see their menagerie: birds, horses, camels and of course, bison, which you can feed! You can go on a horseback tour or an ATV tour! You can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner... in three different places! This is a MUST stop!

By Ashrkyle |

What a fun day trip. We did a one hour horseback ride and the views were amazing. We felt extremely safe on the horses and the guides were fun and helpful. The horses looked very well taken care of and even my 12 year old loved it. We also did the train ride and the best part was the commentary by Chris. He had us laughing the whole time. You can pet the Buffalo which for us was worth the trip. We would definitely come back and recommend to friends.

By Scott H |

Very disappointing. We were in our RV and stayed for three nights. Everything in the gift shop over priced, no shade trees in the majority of the sites, no picnic tables at the sites, right on the interstate, near the train tracks, generators are allowed so it is noisy, train ride was $20 per person and it whole place was kinda ratty. We will never return. Scott from Austin

We loved Terry Bison Ranch. It was a wonderful experience for my grandsons.

Springtime and all of the babies made it a perfect visit.

We, or maybe it was just me, got a good laugh over my grandson getting spit at by the grouchy llama!

By mbparis28 |

Who would've thought to feed bison on vacation! We had such a great time here. The people were so friendly and informative. The train takes you around the farm to see all the animals then stops and the bison come up to eat. You just throw the pellets into their mouth. It was fun to do something different!

By AlamoGQ |

We went there primarily for the RV site. Excellent full hook. But there is so much more. They have train rides through the buffalo field, they have lots of different kinds of livestock, animals and birds, two restaurants too.

By Christopher B |

Ok first the good. Feeding the bison was amazing! We loved petting all the animals and checking them out. Now the bad: the prices in the gift shop are ridiculous! $2 for water $10 or more for a magnet! One of the most expensive gift shops I have been in and we have been all over America! Bring your own food and water when you check out this cool place.

By Gordon M |

We stopped here intending to spend two nights in order to have a full day to explore Cheyenne. While Bobby Flay may like the burgers he clearly did not stay in the rv park. The sites are tiny, tend to be muddy and have no picnic table or grill or even a spot to set up a portable grill.
We were first assigned a spot within 30 feet of the dump station. When we asked far a different spot we were told that nearly all were reserved. As of 8 pm the three specific spots we suggested are still empty. We are leaving after only one night.

By Dana C |

We had fun here even tho it was a tourist draw and a bit hokey. We rode the "train" out to see the bison and learned a lot about the ranch and the animals on the way. The restaurant was very good. Had a bison burger and it was very tasty. Plan to spend an hour or two here, not much more than that

By Sandy M |

Lots of animals to see including a very friendly turkey that hangs out near the train depot. The train ride to see/feed the bison was $20 EA for adults. The train only moves at 3 mph so it isn't very exciting if you are in to the train aspect of the trip. It was definitely hard to hear the conductor/narrator because the train itself is super loud. I think you need more speakers because you could tell he was already kind of yelling. Anyway, once we got to the bison, the train stops for a while so you can feed them. There are buckets on the floor full of food and they come right up to the train cars. Their tongues are very long and they stick them out to grab the food. Be prepared, there noses are pretty wet and slimy. We also were able to pet them on the head and their fur is very coarse. On the way back to the depot, we saw lots of prarie dogs running around. It was a fun time and I'm so glad we did it.

This was a lot of fun but if you take the luncheon Sunday train ride beawear there is not assigned seating. We were told we could all sit together (there were 12 of us) we had small children that ended up sitting with other people. It made for a bit of a unpleasant experience, only because we went to enjoy this as a family. We did complain however nothing was done. Other wise it was ok.

We have made Terry Bison Ranch our stretch-your-legs stop whenever we travel from Denver, CO to Newcastle, WY. On our recent trip, we were there at an opportune time for the train ride loop around the ranch. The ride is a casual, fun, and informative tour. The highlight, of course, is the opportunity to feed the bison, and to photograph them up close and personal. (There are many other animals on the ranch, as well). The loop takes about 45 minutes, and we now have wonderful photographs and fond memories of our 2019 stop at the Terry Bison Ranch.

By Rob M |

Went on a Sunday afternoon. Although short staffed, everyone was friendly. Young children can ride the horses for $12 and the train ride gives one a chance to feed thr bison for around $15 give and take. Overall, always a good experience.

I took my family on the train ride my family was very impressed with our conductor Chris he did
An awsome job

By PrettyNJMomma |

I stopped here with my son so he could see the animals. We could not take the bison tour since it was too brief of a visit for us but we did get to see the other animals on the ranch. This was thrilling for my son since we only see farm animals on TV and in the movies. The staff was friendly and I would recommend this for families.

Our family of 5 signed up to go horseback riding, along with 15 other riders. The weather was very questionable with storms all around us. During the 30 minute process to match riders and horses it started to rain on us and thunder and dark clouds surrounded us. Many riders inquired about going out in this weather and the ranch said it was fine as it was just raining. About 15 minutes into our ride we encountered a bad storm. Thunder, lightning, pouring down rain. There was nowhere to go for cover. The ranch radioed to the lead ranchhand and said to turn around the group. For the next 15 minutes each of us were in a very harrowing situation with our kids and families. Lightning was popping all around us, kids were scared and some of the horses were getting spooked. This was uncalled for and could've been handled differently. A small delay at the beginning would've been the best solution so the storm could pass, but the ranch knew they had riders booked every 90 minutes and didn't want to lose any money.

We paid $240 for a family of 5 and received a 30 minute ride in a very bad storm. There were no refunds and no apologies even when several families asked at the end. It is sad it is more about the money than the safety. Worst customer service ever! There is absolutely no organization within the small store/ check in area.

We have visited four times, taking visitors and grandchildren. Not your Disneyfied, corporate theme park. A little rough around the edges with lots of home-brew construction but really fun for the kids and a chance to see Bison up close and even feed them. Can't comment on the RV Park and camping but the restaurant is competent, the waitstaff friendly and efficient, the kitchen a little slow but the food is good and the beer is cold. Lots of farm animals to see. We have all had a good time every visit. Today we saw a baby bison arrive and take its first steps.

Who knew I loved bison slobber? I could have fed the bison all day long, and luckily, our group of 6 friends were the only ones on the mid-day, mid-week train ride, so we each had plenty of time to feed the food pellets to the bison - probably a solid 20 minutes. They were so gentle in taking the treats right from our hands. What a treat!

There are quite a few animals to see on the grounds - goats, llamas, horses, chickens, peacocks, turkeys, camels, and of course, bison. Totally worth the drive from Denver!

What a wonderful stop! It is truly what I pictured Wyoming to be.

We took the $14 (for adults) train ride around the property. It was approximately half an hour and we saw a lot of the land and the animals (horses, camels, chickens, ostriches, and bison). We got to feed the bison from the train, and lucked out by seeing a LIVE BIRTH!

Our guide was FANTASTIC -- he gave us the history of the ranch, details about each section of the land, and answered all of our questions.

A+ stop!

Terry Bison Ranch had 3 hours to play with so we went to the ranch got to feed the bisons by hand had a guided tour on a old rail car of the bison herd they horseback riding tour , atv tour it was a great time with Family

Took a chance doing a side trip from Denver to Wyoming. This ranch is a fun little stop. Kids wanted to see animals and this place didn’t disappoint. If you take the train ride you will get real close to the bison. Friendly staff too! The whole family enjoyed this stop.

My mom and I needed a place to stay as we were traveling cross-country. We discovered Terry Bison Ranch and had to go after learning all they had to offer! First of all, the cabin we stayed in was cheaper than any hotel we could've stayed in...and it was a freakin' cabin in the middle of Wyoming's beautiful wilderness! We ate at the Senator's and the food was great. I had a bison steak, straight from the ranch. The next morning we went horseback riding across three states! The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better, inexpensive, beautiful pit stop!

Oh yeah, and save some money for the awesome gift shop!!

By Lv2travel95 |

So glad we were able to visit this place. Restaurant has excellent food (try the bison burger!) and server was extremely courteous and friendly. Highlight was taking the train and hand-feeding the bison. Was really unique and fun experience & highly recommend it!

By lillian N |

It is off the beaten path , they did have bison, but to call it a resort , my opinion not so much.
But maybe in time it can again be called a resort. New management has taken over and it did not appear that really anything was happening there..
There is an onsite restaurant that we were told serves up the best Bison burgers but we did not have the chance to try.

By Rosewicks |

We stayed here in a motorhome for 3 nights. Our group of 10 consisted of various types and sizes of RV's. Staff very friendly but park pretty rustic and right next to freeway. It really needs some TLC. Had good internet and cell phone service. Lots of beautiful animals to see and best of all was open train ride on the range where buffalo herd came up to train. We fed them by hand. Wow, pretty exciting. I prefer a more luxurious park but at least we had good water pressure and 50 amp. Senator Restaurant was excellent.

Visiting and feeding the bison was the highlight of our road trip so far. Our guide Lonnie was super knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Unforgettable experience, don't miss it if you're in Cheyenne!

By LM |

I really enjoyed this bison experience- the guide was hilarious. That said, the place is a bit rundown. It’s great for kids. And since there is not a ton to do in Cheyenne, I do recommend it. It’s very kitschy.

By EricJ2525 |

We really enjoyed the train ride to feed the bison. The guide was entertaining and informative. There were plenty of food pellets to go around. Everyone on the train looked like they were having fun feeding the Bison. The scenery was beautiful. Would definitely recommend it.

If you are anywhere near Cheyenne and it's dinner or lunch time, make plans to visit the Terry Bison Ranch just off of Exit #2 on I-25. They are open 7 days a week from 11 AM to 9 PM and you will just love the atmosphere. It is rustic Western with friendly, attentive service and outstanding bison options on the menu, plus many others as well. They raise their own beef and bison and also have wagon tours of the ranch, where visitors can actually feed the buffalo. There are also many other animals to see up close on the ranch like camels and llamas among others. This is a treat for the whole family to experience and one of our favorite lunch destinations.

By Mike C |

We rode the train and saw the bison, who were being lazy that day. Only a few came to the train but accepted some treats. There are also chickens, turkeys, alpacas, donkeys and ostriches to view while waiting for the train to depart.

The train cars are not what you would find on a dinner train - they are open air cars built for a specific purpose. It's not Disneyland, but a working ranch in beautiful Wyoming

By Jane D |

We were only in Cheyenne one night on our way to Denver, I wanted to give my 11 year old daughter the best "western" experience possible (we are from Philly). We spent all morning at Terry Bison and then did the lunch ride to feed the buffalo. It was exactly what I was looking for. Staff was outstanding, went above and beyond when my daughter had a dizzy spell (it passed), and the food on the train was delicious. This is no fairy tale ranch, you get down and dirty, don't wear flip flops! We loved it.

By ODU2K1 |

My wife and I drove up from Denver on our vacation and rode horses and took the bison train ride. Both were super cool and I highly recommend it. The guide for our house back ride was also the train driver and was a really fun guy. Not only do you go into the bison herd you also get to feed them! Go check out the Terry Bison Ranch.

By CHARLESofDAYTON |

This was probably a great place 30 years ago. That was last time any upkeep & maintenance was done on property. There are a few "lethargic" farm animals & the 5-10 minutes spent feeding is interesting. But, the place is run down & a bit junky. The train ride is long, uncomfortable & so loud you cannot hear anything about the history or any of the educational comments. Honestly, this was a hugh disappointment.

By Beekeeperjudge |

We paid $20 for the amusement park type train ride. Got a ticket for the 1:30 train, it's 2;30, still sitting on the train, baking in the sun, going nowhere.

By Denise A |

I can’t believe I have been living here in Cheyenne and have not made my way to Terry Bison ranch. I am definitely taking my children there and staying for at least one evening. There’s horse back riding and a train ride in which you can feed the bison. Yes, they are big but harmless (at least from inside the train & while feeding them ... lol). There’s also s restaurant on site where you can enjoy a good ol’ fashion bison burger. You won’t be disappointed!

By motorcity70 |

One is unlikely to encounter, or be able to engage, with Buffalo (Bison) when traversing the Interstate. Terry Bison ranch makes that possible and enjoyable. A plus is that the train ride offered takes you just a bit into Colorado allowing another state to be checked off. Close up encounters with real Buffalo happen here. Kids and adults alike will have a great time. The staff is friendly and this is a genuine working ranch. Very easy to reach off of I-25. If your trip isn't likely to offer such an encounter, stop here, you'll be glad you did.

Great place to visit with several attractions: Souvenir Shop, a Wild West town set up that makes for great photos, a mini zoo and main attraction: a train that takes a tour of the property that at a certain point stops along the way so you can feed the animals. bison that are on site, a unique experience as they are a fantastic animal and you don't have much chance of getting close to them in Yellowstone Park where they are wild. I recommend the visit. Before traveling, I researched Loval, sent an email asking for information, they responded and I went to visit. I recommend it to anyone passing through Cheyenne.

By Robin H |

Registration was fine, staff was friendly. We drove ourselves thru the maze of monthly residents all sitting out drinking n smoking. NO space between campers, we sat over the dump on site 91.You hear traffic all night and the monthly heading out at 5:30am to work. The dust was horrible and they had a "Kids Koral", looked more like a death trap, all rusted metal rides that once twirled youngin's around. Clean up the place, The train ride was informative and we left Ginger and Lonnie a tip. Just wish we could have heard more of what she was telling us for the train had a lot of squeaky spots. We ate at the Cafe, it was okay, just don't go there if you are in a hurry. We were going to eat at the steak house but our neighbor told us not to bother. OMGosh, fix the trash area or just clean it up....nasty

By Judy K |

Feeding the bison from the train was so much fun for my son who is actually an adult but loves animals. They also had several newborn horses and cows and ostrich. Connor, our tour guide had a great sense of humor and Erin in the ticket Office/ souvenir store was very very nice. They hire veterans to work there which is wonderful , You can horseback ride also and if I just didn't do it the day before at another place I would have done it for sure. there's a place to stay overnight. You can either bring your Winnebago or they have little cabins (Erin told us a great story about how some cabins were built by local students ,plus several places to eat right on the property. The senator restaurant was amazing. Totally authentic.
We were staying in Denver but it was only a short 1 hour ride from my hotel.

By FSUOboe |

I loved my cabin! I posted several pictures of my cabin and views because others on here don’t do it justice. I highly recommend the cabin lodging or RV stay, for those that prefer that. The cabin offered wifi, a small tv with dish satellite, kitchenette, two beds, a full bathroom, and towels. The cabin looks like what an authentic log cabin would look like, so no frills or updated furnishing. I also highly recommend the train ride to visit the bison. Our conductor was Johnathan and he was full of humor, information, and was lively. My train ride was nice and cool, even on the 1st of June. There are plenty of peacock, ostrich, horses, llama, alpaca, and even a turkey! If you choose to dine on the ranch, there are a few options. I tried the cafe and recommend it for breakfast! I’ve already recommended this place to my family members.

Made a reservation to stay in the cabins there. After first walking into our cabin, we began swatting flies with a broken fly swatter. After killing about 30 flies, we called the front desk for some help. They said they couldn’t do anything but could give us a can of spray that WE could use that would kill them. We sprayed and left for a couple hours. When we returned, not only were we greeted by another another 30 dead flies, but also about 75 dead moths. Keep in mind that we had been in our cabin all of maybe 15 minutes and had only walked in and out once, so this surplus of insects had to have been there prior to our arrival. We had nothing to clean up the dead insects with (no broom) so once again we called the front desk. They said someone would come to the cabin to check it out. 40 minutes later I called again and was told Bryan, the general manager, would be there shortly. He arrived and advised us this is a ranch and we should expect these conditions. Our entire family has grown up around ranches and insects, so we are not easily grossed out. However, the amount of bugs were excessive and the rest of the facilities on the property were not swarming with insects like our cabin was. He said we could check out and get our money back. We high tailed it out of there, too gross for us!!! Also there was a hanger under one of the made comforters. This leads us to believe the sheets also hadn’t been changed, the bed had just been made.

Fun place to go with kids. My 9 year old loved feeding the buffaloes and the rest of the farm is fun to walk around. Had dinner at the restaurant, pricey but the food was better than you would expect from a tourist attraction. Worst part was that it took forever and they didn't seem that busy. But we weren't in a hurry so not a huge deal.

By Foul P |

Terrible is over rating the Senator Restaurant (at Terry Bison Ranch). We were forced to sit outside at a filthy picknic table covered in dead and live flies. Unfortunately my dining companions refused to leave so we tried to eat our dinner amidst a massive swarm of flies. We finally gave up and left well before we finished our meal. The manager just blew us off and refused to even apologize let alone give us a discount.

We wanted to see bison on our trip out to Wyoming, and we were excited to find the Terry Bison Ranch. We did the train ride to see the bison. The train was old, and seemed to struggle to get around the corners. It would slow to almost a stop to go around the curves...and it wasn't because they wanted us to see the scenic view. The worse part was the man who was speaking over the microphone as the train moved, apparently giving out "tour like" information. No one could understand what he was saying. It wasn't that we couldn't hear him...we could...but he had some sort of Cowboy accent, and talked VERY FAST. None of us could understand anything he said. It wasn't just my group. I heard the people in front of me say the same exact thing. I am sure he had some interesting facts and tidbits of info....it was disappointing not to be able to understand him. SLOW DOWN when you talk!!!! Don't waste your money buying more than one bag of food for your family to feed the animals. Most of the animals don't even eat it....either they are full from the prior train group, or they are just over the dry pellets. Most of the animals totally ignored the pellets when we threw them in. A few buffalo did come up and eat them out of our hands (that was the best part of the experience!!!). Overall, the whole ranch was kinda run down. They had other animals you could view, llama, pigs, goats, mules....from this metal bridge built 20 feet in the air. The bridge was made from a thin sheet of metal.....you could feel the metal waver and bend as you walked over it (and we aren't exceptionally large people). They had a old "exotic" bird sancutary....that is no longer used because wild animals were getting in and eating the birds...yet there the sanctuary sat, ripped netting, run down, overgrown weeds. Why? Just another run down part of the tour. Take it down if it's no longer used. Old buildings that were "once blacksmith shop" type of stuff...but "now we just use it for storage"....but they are literally just run down old wooden buildings, almost falling down. There is nothing historic or cute, or touristy about them. Why point them out? Why have them on the tour? Why not put a bit of effort into cleaning them up so they at least look like something other than a falling down shack? Overall...just not worth it. To see the bison, they were interesting. But beyond that...this is an old ranch trying to survive as a tourist destination but they either aren't making it, or aren't putting any money back into their facilities.

We were the only passengers on a cold day, late in November, but the train car was warm. Our guide (also the train driver) gave us the history of the ranch and also talked about his life as a cowboy in Wyoming. The ranch supplies around 80% of the bison meat sold in the US. A small subset of the herd is kept near the ranch buildings for tourists. There are other animals in pens. It was too cold for us to wander around the pens so we just did the train ride and visited the gift shop. There's also a restaurant and an RV park. I can see how this place would be jumping when the weather was nice. Oh, and feeding the bison was pretty cool. The driver just opened the door, pulled over a tub of large feed pellets and the bison stuck their heads in. Fun!

Went to Terry’s Bison Ranch for the Bison educational train ride. Before the train ride, we went on the self guided ranch tour where we met various animals with distinctive personalities. On this tour you can meet horses, peacocks, turkeys and some very vocal goats.

Our train conductor Al was very friendly, informative and engaged all the train ride participants. The highlight of the day was feeding the bison from our train car. The bison are very friendly and love a good snack! It was awesome being so close to these mighty animals and the calves are so cute! Well worth the price of admission!

Worth the train ride around the ranch excellent service at the restaurant and gift shop great for cabin rentals and RV enjoyed the tour guide and the information provided regarding the history of the ranch and the area in general overall excellent experience and a great day trip

By Tracy C |

We went to ride the train but did not get to ride a train. Instead, we were put into a sort of weird metal contraption with windows. It was noisy and uncomfortable. The Bison are not wild but kept in a pasture. They are really impressive and feeding them was fun, the babies were super cute. Not a great value for the money though.

We didn't plan on overnighting here with our two horses, but when a friend backed out of letting us stay at her ranch we had to find accommodations quickly. Ended up at this place. Really neat little place, they allowed us to check in late but it did cost us extra. Roomy set up for the horses out by the arena and they allowed us to use it the next morning to ride before we left. The only reason it's not a 5 star review is because the corrals and horse area have some things that need fixing. The restaurant is awesome and the people working there were super friendly. We wanted to take the kids on the train ride but had to get to our destination. There will be a next time for this place!

By ALANB |

Passed it during a road trip so went back to take a look. looking a bit rundown but plenty to see. next to large RV park. We took the Train trip which takes you to the Bison herd & stops. You can then feed them by hand as they come up to the train. Train full of school kids so very noisy.

Everything overpriced; tour train in need of major upgrading as it lurched along slowly and slammed passengers back and forth (very uncomfortable) during ride. Gift shop items were way too expensive for what you got (i.e. a bottle of Buffalo Trace Whisky was priced $30 more than average liquor stores) and all souvenirs were ridiculously priced.

The Senator's Steakhouse was way overpriced for what you got. Service was terrible with trolls as servers and hostesses. Unprofessional as all get out. Flies everywhere in dining room(s) and our lousy food took almost an hour to receive. Very obvious the kitchen was not clean as my daughter and grandson got diarrhea from both their meals (i.e. ribs). Dance floor was too small because they are heavily focused on the gambling machines (one-armed bandits) and not normal customers there to have a meal and listen to music. Will never go back as we spent way too much $ for what we got which were bad cases of the runs.

I absolutely loved my experience on the ranch! I was in WY for a conference and was so excited to stop here on my way back to Denver. I loved that it is a ranch with chickens and cats running around and everyone who I ran into asked where I was from and was so kind! What a great experience seeing these beautiful animals!

By Gene V |

So the train and horseback riding is really fun. I give those 5 stars. Easily. Great people and stuff to do. The restaurant really brings the score down. It's good but very expensive. Servers made mistakes but they were really nice ladies. The staff was nice but I don't think they are very organized. The chili is only okay. The bison burgers were great. But they were overcooked. I really enjoyed my black and blue burger. Fries were good. This place is awesome and fun to go to. I just wish the restaurant was better. I really love the ranch. We go there at least once a year from Littleton, co.

By Stacie29 |

First of all I must say today was a cold windy day which affected our experience with the whole place. Not too many animals were out. We got there an hour early for the train ride and tried to see the other animals but were too cold so we hung out in the gift shop. The train ride was slooooooow! Like no more than 5 mph! And it's just a circle basically. After going around for 40 mins, nearly returning to the barn, we arrived at the bison. Which was fun for my kids. But anticlimactic. Total trip 1 hour. Not really worth it. But little kids loved feeding the bison. I would have just preferred to walk up to the fence and feed them that way. Maybe in warmer weather we would have found more to do.

By RoadTripper687 |

We did a one-hour horseback trail ride which was definitely super fun. We then did the little "train" ride through the ranch and stopped to feed the buffalo! Good time!

By nwvacationers |

I drove through in February, and found a quiet property with amazing views and bison! We stopped at the gift shop and the women who worked there were very friendly. A nice break during a drive from Cheyenne to Denver. I would love to see it in the summer when the property is busier and full of activity.

By Nicole L |

What a great place! I am visiting family and they suggested we go and feed some bison, being from massachusetts i was all over this adventure. We went on the train ride and our driver, Keith, was friendly and really informative with a little humor thrown in. we did the 10:30 ride before it got too hot and the bison were very happy to come and get snacks from us. If you get icked out by possibly getting bison spit on your hand, don’t feed them. i wasn’t bothered at all, and was able to feed several of them. everyone on our train was in good spirits and we all had a blast.

By StacyInDC2012 |

We really enjoyed our stop at Terry Bison Ranch and ride on the Bison Train!

It was a unique experience and really informative! Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area!

The bison came right up to the train and ate from our hands. The other animals on the ranch were fun to see as well and the staff was friendly and helpful. This was a real highlight of our week long CO/WY trip!

By amarinesmom226 |

My husband and I stopped while on a 2 day visit in Cheyenne. While we enjoyed the history of the ranch and being able to see the bison up close...the over all feel is somewhat run down and unorganized. We opted to take the train ride out into the pasture and see the bison up close. Our guide was a very friendly man with an abundance of information on the ranch. He was really fun and we enjoyed him.

By April |

Sierra was our train guide. She did an excellent job talking about the bison and answered all our questions. She was friendly and personable. I will definitely come back when it’s a little warmer to do the open train ride.

By Daniel |

Food leaves you wanting. Bait and switch tactics as the restaurant was closed, only the expensive buffet or cheap overcooked burger from the truck outside.

By Linda C |

I've read the reviews and I'm not a TBR hater nor did I love the experience. We were 4 adults and I'm sure this experience is more geared to children. It was slightly hokey but was worth the time and cost. We saw a herd of mother bison with babies from the very slow train. I know the train was slow but what do you expect on a ranch with many animals around - a roaring locomotive? We still enjoyed feeding the bison and seeing the babies following their moms around.

Ok, so I booked the Sunday Lunch Train for my step-dad's birthday and had to pre-order all the meals for everyone in our group when I made the reservation a week prior to the train ride. Cut to day of the train and the whole place is disorganized, and in no way was this a "train". The service staff working the event were, not necessarily rude, but not at all pleasant. It was like our group of 5 was the invisible table. Every single person around us got a drink order and started getting food. All the while we were sitting there with nothing as the staff walk past helping other people. When someone finally came over to get our pre-ordered food tickets, they still didn't offer us drinks. We then asked if we could get something to drink. Our server, NO JOKE, took my parent's drink order and walked away. No drinks for my husband, myself, or our 4 year old. Then food starts coming out and they are magically out of all of the food we had PRE-ordered. Seriously, it was a dope show! I think the only enjoyable part of the journey was my son getting to feed some buffalo. For the amount of money they ask for this "train" ride, I would save your money and do something more memorable. I have been to other activities at TBR and they weren't bad, but this has made me question the entire facility. Everything from the moment we got there was a disheveled, disorganized mess, and no one seemed to care about it.

We stayed here, thinking it would be a ranch-style resort . It’s a highway attraction, right off the interstate.

It’s a rundown attraction, with a train ride to feed buffalo, which is fun. The grounds have chicken and peacocks running all over, and the path to the restrooms is covered in chicken and peacocks droppings. It looks like a strong wind would blow it all down.

The cabins had 2 double beds, a basic bathroom with no hot water, (My husband took a shower, and said it never got beyond “cool”) and space heaters that tripped the circuit breakers if they all were plugged in. Terrible cell reception.

The restaurant was not yet opened for the season(during the last week of May), so there was no food available at their “resort”.

Luckily, we were only there for one night.

By Lin_Dan_2223 |

We only spent one transiting night here, but the staff is nice & friendly, sites are fairly level. There is a 10% discount at the restaurant, a gift shop and lots to do for all ages, especially if your stay is longer than 1 night.

By duffy321 |

No AC in older cabins, but they are clean. Our cabin needed some TLC. Old beds, old decor and old shower.

No hotel style amenities (iron, ironing board, etc).

NEED more lighting for events being held there. After dark most of the property is pitch black. I walked several guests back to their cabins and would not have been able to without a flashlight. Dangerous!

The restrauant is a good meal. Great restrauant staff. However, the meal served at the wedding was not good... from frozen buns to meat soaked in vinegar.

Some family members rode the train to feed the bison. The kids under 5 yrs old loved it, older kids not so much.

Price is ok at $115.00 per night.

This place has so much amazing potential and we have been attending this restaurant as a family for years. We have been here in the past and loved the atmosphere and train rides….however, every time we have attended this restaurant there is a man (I think his name is John) and he has always been extremely rude. My family and I have multiple stories of the rude things he has said and done.

Now, on a Friday night we decided to give the restaurant another chance. The hostess was polite and got us seated right away. We were brought waters and told, “I will be back to take your order.” About 45 minutes later…no one even acknowledged our table. That was the end of our Friday night…now on our way to fast food…

We recently took a family trip out to the ranch to undertake a horse trail. My kids had never ridden but thoroughly enjoyable it taking just over an hour across the plains spotting various kinds of wildlife. Prairie dogs and cattle very inquisitive! Even a deer ran across in front of us. We arrived approx 45 mins before scheduled time but didn't need to actually book.

By Connie G |

Hit the Terry Bison Ranch's restaurant (Senator?) after a great horse back ride at Bit-o-wyo, with hunger pains. We all (4 of us) ordered the bison burger and it was a wonderful choice! Best burger of any sort I've ever had--and I've had a few! Nice servers, cold beer. Perfect lunch!

By kowenby25 |

Great for young kids! Fed bison, pony ride and love seeing different animals. The weather was perfect for being outside all day. Loved the food at the cafe and the live music was a wonderful surprise!

By _bdeverts |

A must see place for all ages. The restaurant was fantastic. Our waiter was awesome. Going to come back in August when it is warmer.

By Amy L |

Booked through groupon. Had a good experience, train was bumpy ,driver had some witty jokes as well as alot of info about the ranch and bisons. We watched a truck horse mini show like 10 min, cute.
Also had bison short ribs and the waitress was nice enough to convert it into the buffet and let us know that the groupon purchased was not a Bison steak but regular NY strip.

By Professoressa |

The place seems to be in need of maintenance but it was fun to see the bison so close. They walk up to the train and open their mouths and wave their tongues for a treat, and you get to just pop it in. A different experience!

By Fivestroke |

We stopped to visit the Terry Bison Ranch based on a recommendation from the guy at the Wyoming visitor's center on Route 25. We thought it might be a unique fun adventure. Although there are numerous things to do at the ranch, we took part in the train ride out to feed the bison. This train is not your typical fast train ride that you would think of. It is similar to an amusement park train that pulls an open air wagon. The ride is agonizingly slow, and except for a few fenced in animals, there is not much to look at. After 45 minutes we arrived in a field with a herd of bison. We did not get off the train. They provide food and you can hang over the edge of the wagon and hold out the pellets to feed the bison that come over. It is not dangerous. The bison don't seem particularly excited about getting the treats. We stayed in one location for about 15 minutes. Then there was the slow ride back to the station. I suppose young kids might find it fun, but as adults, it was quite boring. It is cool to see the bison up close, but other than that it really wasn't that exciting. Fortunately is wasn't all too expensive. About $15 per adult.

The rv site (A-1) was large and could see the bison in a distance. The restaurant was nice. The bison burger was good and so was the beer. i would stay there the next time.

By 613chris |

Stopped by the terry bison ranch checked out the animals they were pretty friendly. We bought tickets for the train ride which is a must-do if you plan to visit. The train actually travels through wyoming and goes into Colorado. The highlight is when the train comes to a stop and for 15-20 minutes you are feeding the bisons. The food is supplied and there is plenty to feed em. They come right up to the train so you can touch em.

By 2016BigHornRAM |

We stopped on our way from Cheyenne to Denver. Really enjoyed it. We did not get to ride the train, but pretty much same everything else, and bought some souvenirs. I hope to go back again in the future, and next time ride the train to feed some bison !!!

By katharinascakes |

I have taken my 2 year old daughter and my parents that were visiting from Germany here multiple times. It's a fun experience to ride the train and feed the camels and buffalo. They also have a petting zoo, you can take old west photos and they offer horse back riding. There is a little store where you can purchase souvenirs and snacks and the restaurant offers buffalo burgers and more.

By Mepl |

It was a really pleasant experience riding the train and being able to have a close encounter with these beautiful and statuesque animals. We were able to have feed them without any fears, obviously we were in the train not at the ground level but definitely very close.

By DrEitan |

1. Need better signage everywhere. They don't spend on upkeep and maintenance.
2. Rude staff upon check-in. The blonde girl had an attitude and was terse.
3. Better organization is needed on line up. Having guests saying I came here first does not bode well.
4. You can tell they are short and disorganized, but that is not my problem and they should time their admissions.
5. Place needs renovation, run down and old...bathroom needed work.
Basically, with all the hype..not coming back again

P.S Bisons looked tired and not cared for, many had skin lesions...not sure if anyone is advocating for those poor animals.

Our actual trip was to Denver, CO. However, we were made aware of an excellent restaurant (Lucille's) in Fort Collins, CO. On our way to Lucille's we noticed that Cheyenne, WY was just another 45 miles away (we had never been to Wyoming). So we headed there. We stopped at the Wyoming State Museum and Jackie, at the gift shop, recommended Terry's Bison Ranch. And we're sure glad she did!

We didn't have much time that day so we just took the train tour. Since it was the middle of the week, it was just us and another couple on the whole train! Our tour guide was engaging and very knowledgeable about the property and animals. Feeding the bison, being so close like that, was truly fun and worth the time investment! I'm certain both children and adults would enjoy it!

By malleree |

What a fantastic fun place! We took the train ride and handfed the bison. It was very exciting. This place has many fun things to do: horseback riding, pony riding, a restaurant, and gift shop. There are many other animals to see as well. It also has cabins to rent. Half the ranch is in Wyoming and half in Colorado. It was a little less than an hour drive from Longmont, CO and 7 miles from Cheyenne.

By Casey K |

My husband and I stopped at Terry Bison Ranch for the train tour on our way to Cheyenne and had fun. The tour went just over an hour and all the action is in the first half of the ride: you drive past some horses, an ostrich, and to the bison. When you reach the bison, the train stops for 20-30 minutes while everyone takes turns stepping out on the very small platforms between the cars to feed the bison. This was the highlight. After that, the train continues in a loop past a field of prairie dogs and not much else while the conductor continues to entertain over the speakers with stories and info. We did spot a distant bald eagle which was very cool. Otherwise, I could've skipped the entire second half of the tour but I appreciate that they're trying to give you your money's worth. I visited on the Friday after Thanksgiving and so many people were queued up that they added three additional departures at 30 minute intervals - one of which we were on. I really appreciate that as tickets are first-come-first-serve and if they hadn't, we would've missed out. Worth doing, even if a bit too long. Where else can you feed a bison??

By Blantonpartyof6 |

Neat concept. We spent 4 nights here camping. Campground is in need of maintenance. Ranch hands are rude and have zero social skills. Animals were the best part. Some of the animals are well cared for, others are in need of hoove trimming. All of the animals are sweet. My kids loved the train ride, highly recommend it.

By Joey |

Always wanted to visit Terry Bison ranch but every visit i ran out of time,
My friend surprised me and my fiancée on our last day this visit with a trip to the ranch!

Got a ride on the train which was amazing! Fed the bison and the train driver/tour guide was amazing and a great sense of humour.
10/10 all staff were polite and friendly and so were the bison.

By Sandy G |

Great campground with lots to do. Many pull through sites with full hookups. Fairly level gravel sites. No shaded sites. Large store with food staples and souvenirs. Be sure to read the history of the 27,000 acre ranch. Good steak restaurant on site. Clean showers/restrooms. Would stay again next time we are traveling the area

By susieq1960 |

Stopped in for a bite on our way back from Cheyenne. Cool place. Kids would love it here. We ordered bison burgers and they were fabulous....very juicy and tasty. Good service and great waitresses! Would go back again and spend more time looking around.

By Eric R |

We did the 1 hour trail ride Katherine. She was super nice and gave a good tour. Trail horses listened pretty good and didn't bolt for the barn at the end. Restaurant/bar is in a big barn. We had the fried mac n cheese bites...very nice. Lots of other cool activities. Its a laid back place with lots of animals to see.

By Chris S |

Unusual. Stayed in a cabin. It was fine. The meal at the restaurant was fabulous. Breakfast was lovely but not included in the price. A quirky place to stay and glad we did.

By Janet A |

If you have never seen bison up close, then this is the place to visit, but you have to take their "train" ride to get there. Once you get to the "tame" bison, the train stops for about a half hour so you can hand feed the bison from the train.

By Carrie C |

This was a really fun experience for me and my son. Getting to feed bison up close on a train ride was a perfect afternoon activity! A cute gift shop where, after of course getting a stuffed bison to take home, you can sit on a bison or jackalope to take a fun, touristy vacation photo. He's already asked to go back.

My only complaint is that our guide was pretty gruff as we started out, actually, downright grouchy. I understand there are rules, but people are on vacation. Take a note from Disney and others who are masters of vacation destination charm while still getting visitors to abide by rules: make it funny, be sarcastic but don't just be grouchy. Yes, I understand the danger of trying to retrieve a cell phone or camera lost amidst the hooves of heavy bison, some with babies to protect. But you can say it with honey, not vinegar :) Our guide's attitude improved a little as we got closer to the end, and the tip jar displayed at the end. I'm a liberal tipper, especially on vacation, and honestly just a little change of attitude would have had me leaving a tip. But I didn't.

Overall, thank you for offering an opportunity to see these amazing animals and to share some cow cookies and space with them for a moment. It was an amazing experience, and we might be back. I'd love to be able to tip the tour guide next time!

By Cam |

If you have kids this is probably a great visit. The staff was nice and welcoming. We did the train ride. Keep in mind. This is NOT a real train. The conductor was super loud and had some jokes not appropriate for young children. His safety briefing, while necessary, could have been less sarcastic and rude. Once we got on the train, at the furthest point of the train ride, the train axel broke and derailed. No explanation as to what happened. Everyone just sat in silence. Then once they decided they couldn’t fix it we all were ushered off the train and had to walk through horse, camel and bison poop back to the car. No apology’s, no offer of a refund or ticket for another ride. Just a sarcastic “my boss told me you all get free ice cream”. Everyone who visits gets free ice cream.

By Phyllis T |

This was a very interesting place you take a train ride and then the stop and you can fee the bison they supply you with a bag of treats for them... It was a great experience and not to be missed if you are in Wyoming

By Beach Mama |

Great attraction, a must see if you’re in the area. Lots of animals to see and you can feed the bison! Plan to spend a couple hours there.

By Marsha B |

We are folks in our sixties who have lived in many states. We saw the mixed reviews for this place but decided- what the heck. Yes it is a slow train around the property, and it is not cheap but to have bison come up and eat pellets from your hand? Priceless ( pellets included in ticket). Yes the trading post is hokey and the farm animals are best viewed from a catwalk above the pens but the rental cabins look new and the RV park well kept.

We wanted to hire on before we left!

By Traveler |

This was just an overnight stop while traveling I-25. It is an interesting place. But as others have said - it is just a gravel parking lot with RV's and travel trailers very tightly spaced. There is no cable and the WiFi is very poor and spotty. It is a working ranch (27,000 acres) so there are lots of bison, animals, horses, etc. You can walk around the stables, pet the horses, etc. There are several restaurants/grills on site so you can eat there if you wish. Kids have a lot to do and look at - adult, maybe not so much. The real big downer was the prices of the meals and various activities. Trail rides, train rides, etc are way overpriced. We probably will not stop here again.

By Lillian L |

Didn't even bother getting out of the car. Was pretty interested in seeing the camel. Which I thought was different for this area. But just driving into the place, looked like a tourist trap. Even drove through the RV park. Wouldn't want to stay there. Looks pretty rough.

By b-n-wm-n |

We knew exactly what to expect thanks to the thorough reviews on tripadvisor. We were on a road trip as part of our Denver and WY vacation and this was on my must-do list. I wanted to get up close to Bison, feed them and touch them. You will most assuredly get to do this if you take the Bison train ride at Terry Bison Ranch. It's a large family run working ranch right off the highway access road--where they've parlayed that location into a collection of tourist attractions to bring people to the ranch and augment income. So there's a large souvenir shop, a funny charicature of a western "town" nailed to the side of the building, a café and steakhouse, campground, rusty playground, etc. A bit of a throwback. BUT the train is a funny little homemade set of rail cars (time of year will determine which you get in) on a narrow gauge rail that humpety bumps you across the ranch to the bison herd. The Bison are used to this at this point and gather quickly around the open train car where you feed them pressed "cakes" (large pellets) of food. They are blind outside of eight inches away so you have to work to get them to come closer--but eventually they figure it out and you're able to hand feed them and pet them. The tour stays out there for plenty of time to give everyone ample opportunity to do this. The price per person for the ride we found a little high for what it is--but I am totally glad we did it. It was one of the highlights of our trip. I'm sure plenty of locals and ranchers would laugh at the groups of city slickers like us who pay to ride on a wooden bench to see and feed these animals--but we're tourists who otherwise would never get the opportunity to do this and were really glad we did it. It was fun and I loved the animals. The ride is bumpy and the seats are wooden benches--so if you have back trouble or mobility issues this is not the activity for you.

This is a must-do when passing out of CO into SD. Buy the train tickets to go out into the ranch and feed the bison. The bison eat right from your hand. Never thought I'd get to see a bison up close and personal and have it eat from my hand! The buffalo train ride is especially fun for the kids, but everyone will enjoy it. The train ride takes about an hour.

By Allison R |

Went a little early in the season for everything to be in full spring. And of course had the famous Wyoming wind, which is no fault of the ranch.
We have seen a number of Buffalo in our life but never close enough to touch and feed as we did on the train. Mike was our train driver and was great and knowledgeable. When he opened the door to let us touch and feed the huge creatures it was great. There was about 10 babies running around. And I mean running. I was so fun to watch.
Tinker was a bison from the ranch who starred with Kevin Coastner in Dancing with Wolves.
There is also a gift shop with a small place to ear. Picnic tables. Animals from a riding stable to just viewing. Go check it out. We will return !

By LINDA L |

Nice RV park with large sites, clean showers & restrooms, laundry and playgrounds for the children. A Great gift shop/ store and they sell bison meat here. Close views of the Bison fields. Very informative train ride which takes you around the ranch and up close to a variety of animals; camels, peacocks, horses, goats, chickens, turkeys and of course bison! Feed the bison from the train and watch the baby bison play.

What a great little gem just over the Colorado border- great for a day trip! Lots of things to do and appropriate for all ages. Horseback, fishing, train ride, feed the bison, make it an overnight stay or enjoy the restaurant! Made reservations Saturday afternoon (book ASAP as it is a small train!) Highly recommend the short rib plate over the fried chicken plate (ribs fell right off the bone!!!) We also grabbed a 6 pack in the gift shop to bring on the train (great value!!!). I would say the train was appropriate for all ages, as it was interactive and informative. Kaycee? was super fun and very knowledgeable about Bison, the ranch and Wyoming history!

What a Fun day! We rode the train and saw camels and ostriches and got to feed the Buffalo! It was awesome! Then Shannon and her team took us on a fabulous horse ride where we came up on a herd of elk! Afterwards, my bison steak at the senators steakhouse was over the top! This place is a must see – must experience if you are in the Cheyenne area!

By Carson G |

This was amazing there was a peacock on someones car there were bison ostriches and emus all the buildings were cool Defelntly worth it

By 255clarenceb |

A short distance from downtown Cheyenne, the ranch has camels,
ostrichs, bison, horses, chickens, etc. The train keeps you up away from being stepped on by the bison, but you are allowed to feed (and pet) them from the train. A very entertaining time!

By belinda m |

Just over the colorado border into Wyoming you must stop here and visit this bison ranch. We tried to book to stay in their cabins but they were booked out for weeks. Our fault for leaving it so late so we stayed in town and enjoyed the activities the ranch had to offer. We booked the bison train ride to go out and feed them which was so much fun and took an hour. The tour guide/ train driver was awesome and funny and his speel was perfectly pitched to the families on board. We walked around saw the horses, visited the restaurant and smoothie van for the best milkshakes, smoothies, French fries and beer in frozen glasses we have had in a while. There was a guy on a guitar playing which was nice and crested atmosphere. We saw the large firepit and so wish we could have stayed the night. The gift shop is awesome and has so many things to choose from for souvenirs as well as basic groceries for those who stay. Even saw the house cats asleep on the counter and found the staff really friendly and informative.

I am a huge animal nut. Being able to feed the bison was absolutely awesome!!! We also did the horseback riding which was nice. Note : you are not able to Gallup, it is more of a nose to tail trail ride, but still nice. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and ranch. Great gift shop. All of the employees we encountered were great.

Overall this is a cool place. It's an RV park, bison ranch, old west town (complete with train rides through the herds of bison), petting zoo and vintage amusement park...all in one! There's also an amazing gift shop on site, a steakhouse and cabin rentals.

Parts of the property could use some maintenance/updates. And it would be cool if they could get the vintage carnival rides up and running again. But there's lots to see and do and experience while you're there. It's right off I-25 just a few miles north of the Colorado border in Wyoming. There is no admission fee. Any costs would be for food, gifts, train rides, horseback rides, RV sites, cabin rentals, etc. It doesn't cost anything to just look around and check out all the animals and cool metal sculptures.

First experience getting really close to these beautiful creatures. You can take the train ride which takes you directly to their Bison habitat.

I found the bison ranch to be a fun experience. Kids will likely enjoy the train ride to the bison herd; where you can feed the bison. I had bison chili at the restaurant. The live horse show is entertaining. You can also see other animals like llama and ostrich's.

Enjoyed the narrated train ride through the ranch. So large that the tour actually crosses into Colorado before turning back into Wyoming. Lots of history & interesting facts about the ranch & it's origin. Special treat to be able to lean out the window & actually feed & pet the Bison!

By danamorganbarnes |

We took the train ride and had a real blast. It's an hour long, with 1/2 of that feeding some bison. Worth the time and really not expensive. The guide was funny and informative. Lots to see.

We had a great time at the Ranch seeing all the animals and taking the train ride out to feed the buffalo!! Not the fastest of train ride out, but our guide was informative and fun loving! Took lots of pictures and the buffalo herd was cooperative and hungry. Spent time at the farm petting the turkeys, chickens, and seeing other animals as well. Would consider taking the ATV ride or 2 hour horse ride next time here. Time and money well spent!!

My least favorite thing here are the RV sites. They are rather close together.

Took my grandkids last year. They love the train ride and feeding the bison. The eight-year-old was allowed to go on a real horse back ride. I think they like playing with the kittens under the barn better than viewing the camels, llamas and other animals.

My granddaughter loves the cinnamon rolls, after an obligatory scrambled egg, at the café for breakfast. Alas, they closed for the fall after Labor Day so I missed the thick bacon and eggs with biscuit they serve.

This year I enjoyed the bison chili and cornbread at the governor's steakhouse
and just chilled out.
If I make it within 100 miles in my RV I will definitely stop again.

My brother and sister and I (all in our 50s) were looking for an activity on the way back to Denver after a week in Wyoming visiting Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Devil's Tower etc. and we decided to do a horseback ride. (Had to put Family (Teens) since none of the categories fit us.) My brother and sister had no riding experience. I have had a few years of lessons and been on trail rides in several countries but didn't start until I was over 40 so I'm no great expert. Our guide, Faith, was excellent and asked about our experience before assigning the horses, which were gentle and quiet. We did the 1 hour ride and that was enough for us.

If you have experience riding, this ride will seem very tame, but it was just the right amount of excitement for beginners. From what Faith said, it sounded like most of their customers have not even been around horses much, let alone ridden them, so everything is geared to be safe and encouraging for beginners.

We also had a nice lunch of bison burgers at The Senator's Steakhouse and bought some souvenirs in the interesting gift shop. After lunch we walked around and saw some of the other animals such as camels, llamas, ostriches, and pigs. Unlike many of the other reviewers, we didn't do the train ride, though we did see it. (The train and a number of other things on the premises were constructed by the owner. It's ingenious but don't expect anything too elaborate.)

We enjoyed our stop. It would be great for kids at least 8 or 10 years old and younger kids would like seeing the animals. They say that they also have pony rides for little kids.

The ranch is very convenient to the interstate--you can actually see it from the highway and the intersection is well marked.

What a waste of money. My husband and son did the trail ride. my sons saddle was not secured properly and they had to stop 3x to try and fix it. They never could get it fixed so he rode leaning to the left the entire time. My mom and I rode the train. The train ride consisted of listening to an advertisement for all the things you could do at the ranch, then about 15 minutes of feeding buffalo if you bought the buffalo cakes. The train was very bumpy and very loud/squeaky. Anyone with sensory issues could have a problem with this train.

By Ellen |

I took the train tour to view and feed the bison. I learned a lot about bison on the train ride. When the train stops, the bison come right up to the train and stick their long tongues out to take the food. The train operator was entertaining. There are also a lot of other animals at the ranch - horses, camels, ostrich, goats, and peacocks. This outing could be made a bit more educational with placards near the animal enclosures or ranch employees stationed at the enclosures to teach guests about the animals. Afterward, I got a pulled pork sandwich at the little food stand outside the restaurant. The pork was good but there wasn't much meat and the bun was a little stale. Overall and enjoyable experience that would be especially fun for young kids.

My cousin highly recommended this place, and he was right! There are several animals in the corrals to see up close, including turkeys, horses. llama and an ostrich. They have a short train ride through their Buffalo Ranch which includes an opportunity to actually FEED the buffalo. The one herd actually comes up to the train to take small feed "cakes" out of your hand. There were a dozen or more young calves in the herd.
This is a very unique experience!!

By BSJ3258 |

Not much more to say about this location other than "What a Tourist Trap". This might have been interesting to me when I was a young kid but it just hit a sour note with me while visiting today. Not sure it was worth the drive down from Cheyenne.

By Slam69 |

We drove from a Fort Collins to take the train ride followed by a couple of Accomplice beers. Worthwhile tour feeding the Bison by hand, chickens running around and just gaining ranch knowledge. The Steakhouse is a cool find too. Food is delicious and it’s an old west saloon. Grab your boots and enjoy a true western experience.

By Trip690253 |

For the love of God, avoid this place! The food was absolutely the worst we've ever eaten anywhere. The RV park a dirt parking lot and very crowded with almost no room on either side. The front desk lady was not helpful and rude. I recommend you stay away!

By Nancy T |

We had so much fun. We took a day trip from Lafayette to the ranch. I was like stepping back in time. Started with a shot of whiskey and bison burger. Then Al took us on a one hr trail ride on Sammy and Rudy. Then finished wirh the very small train ride to feed the bison. The best was the horses. Who thought a couple from FL in their 60s could still get on a horse. Thanks

By Paul L |

The train ride was nice to see the buffalos but the sound from the narration was hard to hear. But in a few more speakers and this would have been a 5 star

My husband and I decided to take my mom to the Terry bison Ranch, mainly for something fun to do. She lives in Ft. Collins, Co., so a short drive. I called ahead to get the info as we wanted to ride the train to see the bison, as well as eat a bison burger for lunch, since they were so highly rated on TA. We arrived, got our train ticket ($15). The gift shop Wes OK, but
All of their kids T-shirts had camels on them and not bison, which seems strange since it is a bison Ranch? (YES, I know they also have camels). Oh well they lost a purchase on that one.
When we boarded the train our “conductor “ told us one of the first rules was to not get off the train. We soon realized why- this train moves at a snails pace down the tracks. I’m almost 60 years old and I could walk faster than this train was moving. The “engineer” rambled on and on and on, which became so annoying after five minutes. His jokes were just lame and we didn’t really learn anything. Eventually, after seeing prairie dogs and a pile of rocks that were a bison’s grave, we finally arrived to the bison- approximately a half a mile from the ranch from where we originally started.
We did enjoy seeing the bison- One which I just caved within hours of our arrival. The bison didn’t seem that interested in the food that we were provided to feed them (I imagine their food by tourist all day long?), but we did get one that would eat and we did get some great photos- but it was a nightmare to get there! I don’t know if you’re trying to drag out the tour so you feel like you’ve gotten your moneys worth or what but thatSLOW BORING train ride basically ruined our day. I feel like I’m a patient person but it was just aggravating and I’m not sure how the kids did it because it was super boring! They really need to think about shortening that train ride! I think people would still pay the $15 for the ticket just to go see the bison but not have to endure that nightmare of a train ride!

By Linda M |

Took the train ride and fed the bison. Very cool, but the woman selling the train tix didn't suggest we buy bison treats, so we had to mooch some from other passengers. Also, the train tends to detail and did so before and after our ride. The walkway above the animal pens is short, but the views are good. This is like a poor man's Colorado Wild Animal Sanctuary, but it's good for little kids. It was a pleasant afternoon.

By TMac |

1 and 1/2 hour wait for our food. I’ve eaten at Terry Bison two times and the wait is sooooo long to get food to the table. The first time, I thought it was a fluke, but this seems to be a consistent issue with them. The restaurant was not busy when we are there either.

By DCSHuddersfield |

If passing it's worth stopping for an hour or two to take the train out to see and feed the bison. It's not quite as good as I'd hoped and most of the place looks tired but it's interesting. Not a great deal to do though once you've seen the animals and visited the gift shop / trading post.
We went in the morning and didn't get chance to visit the restaurant.

By Darlene K |

There is a lot of potential for this place and maybe if people can look beyond what they first see as they enter they can return to what they once were.
Go to the gift shop to purchase your tickets for the train ride and there you can also purchase bags of feed for the bison.
Bob was our guide on the train and he was very knowledgeable about the bison and the history of the ranch. It was a bit sad to hear about all the “used to”(bull riding, drive-in), made you almost wish you could make things better.
There are peacocks, donkeys, draft horses and an ornery ostrich.
Don’t let the appearance fool you.

By Jenn W |

The train ride is what make this place worth going to. We fed camels from a distance and then went through the bison herd. The came right up to the car and we were able to pet and feed them. It was amazing! There are also other animals to look at and the restaurant served amazing bison burgers. This was a great way to spend an afternoon.

By e p |

We traveled inour motorhome to stay five days at this rv park. It is actually a working ranch with a herd of buffalo, llama, horses, peacocks, chickens etc. We walked around to see the animals with our granddaughter. We took their train ride which goes right into the middle of the herd and you can feed the buffalo.(Best Part of the Trip!! Parts of western movies were filmed here. Really fun. There are two restaurants on site. One is a very nice $$$ steak house style place with a great buffet and super buffallo burgers as well as prime rib and all the sides and a bar. Also there is a smaller breakfast place, food was good, Nothing fancy. There is a nice gift shop, clean showers and good laundry room.
You can rent ATV, go fishing in their ponds or follow the leader type horseback ride.
That was the only downside. The ladies in charge of the horses did not seem to have a handle on the animals. It took them a good 35 minutes to get the horses ready while we stood around and waited. Our guide abandoned us just after we started off because of some call on her walkie talkie and left us with an assistant who was having a hard time getting on and off her steed. She tried but was not properly trained. She had to get on and off to open and close gates which was very difficult for her. It could have been dangerous for us and the young girl who was on the ride with us. Just not professional! Other than that we had a nice time. You can hear the cars on the highway but there are some sites farther back towards the fields. Loved watching the herd of horses running out at sunset to the open areas.
There are mini ponies for the small children to ride in a circle at the playground.

I cannot say enough about the Terry Bison Ranch. My family and I frequent the ranch and bring all visiting company to experience this treasure!

By mickeyspoiled |

This is my 1st review I have felt compelled to actually do! Please know the train ride is a great Bison experience for any age ! Please DO NOT eat the so called famous bison burger..... it's a horrific hockey puck! The service was also the absolute worst we have ever seen we waited along with only 11 other tables for over 2 hours.Note there were 6 waitresses! I wish I would have taken a picture of our so called medium burger. It was solid black and I also upgraded to sweet potato fries for ever cost and literally received 6 fries. Very sad experience BUT on a happier note we tried the bison burger at Fuddruckers and it rocked! I will say I'm emailing Bobby Flay because I am very sure he would be embarrassed to have his name attached to this burger. So lesson for the day read the reviews and just do the train!!!!!!

By DMScamp |

Based on reviews and pictures, we thought this would be a great place to stay for a few days.

The campground is very junky, you can tell people are here long term and have junk scattered around their sites.

The grass needs mowing, some sites look like it’s been months since a mower or weed wicker has been used.

They have a lot of activities, which we won’t be checking out.

Was not impressed with service at the restaurant.

Would I stay again? No

By angeleyes27 |

We took the train ride here and had a very good time feeding the bison. You drop the food right into their mouth. There are lots of friendly cats, a donkey and even a turkey who comes to the restaurant. The driver gives good commentary on the ride with humor. There is a gift shop and restaurant on premises.

By ogmare |

Employees in store, restaurant, train ride were friendly. Fun to pet the animals and feed the Bison. Everything overpriced - gift shop, restaurant, train ride. Food was good but nothing extra. Not worth the money. Most buffet items were cold. I did appreciate that the animals were all well cared for.

On a whim, I decided to go to the Terry Bison Ranch on a Sunday morning, after seeing one of their advertisements in a Cheyenne tourist magazine. I was interested in going horseback riding. I don't particularly enjoy horseback riding, but since I'm not fat anymore, I wanted to do it, just because I was under the weight restriction (ha).

It was a little confusing when I first drove up, because I didn't know where to park. It was hard to tell which buildings were "for show" and which were real! There weren't any signs directing you to a "main office." And holy cow, it's WINDY!

Anyway, I got signed up for the horseback riding and got assigned to a horse named Louis, who was not feeling the love that day. He did NOT want to take a walk, and it took about half an hour of coaxing to get him out of the stable. The "tour guide/cowboy," Lenny (I think) was very loving to the animals, and I found that very endearing. When he was trying to get my horse to go in the right direction, he'd say, "C'mon now, son!" Adorable!

I was the only one, other than Lenny, who went on the 10:30 AM ride. It was a little awkward because we didn't really talk at all for the whole tour. He told me that if he could do anything in the world, he would want to ride his horse out in the field all day. My hands got SOOO CHAPPED AND FROZEN that I literally thought they were going to have to amputate some of my fingers. I've never seen them THAT RED. So, remember your gloves!! The ride itself was pretty boring, but it's something to do. Don't forget to tip your guide afterwards! :)

Then, I went on the bison train tour, and let me tell you, it may have been the coolest thing I have ever done. Don't laugh. I'm serious.

I have always loved bison/buffalo, and I could not BELIEVE that they could ever be tame. There were about 10 of us on the train, and we got out to the field where the bison were, threw open the windows, and a whole herd of bison just came right up to us with their big mouths open and their long sticky tongues out! There are buckets of big food pellets inside the train, and you can just grab a handful and roll them down the bisons' mouths. OMG! I'm pretty sure I squealed more than the kids. The bisons have bottom teeth that look like your grandma's ill-fitting dentures, and their noses are super snotty, but when you look into those big brown eyes, it's like, a religious experience. I almost cried, they were so majestic.

** Management - Please get a microphone for Lenny so that we can hear what he is saying on the train tour. He did his best to shout, but the train made so much noise going down the track that it was impossible to make out every word. He is such a knowledgeable guy, and it was a shame to not be able to hear him sometimes.

Anyway, the gift shop is nice and warm, and the people who work there are super friendly. There are fat, fluffy cats EVERYWHERE you turn, and most of them like to be petted. I can't have pets at my apartment, so it was fun to touch something furry. ha

I liked it here, and if/when I go back to Wyoming, I am going to go feed the bison ALL DAY! I love them!

After passing by this place many times over the years, we finally decided to visit!

First, we took our daughter for a pony ride. The "pony" ended up being an old quarter horse! So, our daughter enjoyed her first true ride. The guide, Cheyenne, was very friendly and great with our daughter.

After that, we took the train ride to feed the bison. The conductor was hilarious (take what he says with a grain of salt...most of what he said wasn't factual, but it sure was funny!) and gave a little history punctuated with humor on the ride out to where the bison graze.

Once we arrived at the herd, bison came right up to the train cars and ate compressed grass pellets straight from our hands! Their snouts are very wet and slimy, so be prepared for that. I was surprised at how smooth their teeth were...there's no need to worry that they'll accidentally nip or bite. They also stick their tongues out about 8 inches to grab that pellet right out of peoples' hands! There were also about 40 babies in the herd. While they don't eat from peoples' hands, they came right up to the train cars with their mothers.

After the train ride, we ran across a friendly turkey that WANTED to be pet! There were many friendly animals on site, including several barn cats and a peacock.

This was truly a unique experience and one that we won't soon forget!

By Maggi O |

A bit funky but a fun diversion. The train takes you out to the bison where you feed them nuggets as they come right up to the train. Feeding the bison from the train is fun for people of all ages. The guide on the train was informative and funny. We stopped by Senator's Restaurant and would eat some bison should we visit again.

By GailLins |

We stopped here on our way from Denver to Cheyenne for the rodeo. My daughter really wanted to ride while we were out west. They offered trail rides for people who want to ride, and a train around the ranch for anyone who doesn't. It was a fun little stop for us, and my daughter loved the trail ride.

By RBen77 |

I just wanted to pet bison but there was so much more! Free horse wagon rides, an enormous farm, a cozy mercantile filled with treats and sweet store cats that wanted petting. This is a must do for anyone coming into the area! You will never forget!

By winchesterre |

Plan to spend a few hours of pure delight here. Enjoy a train ride for a close up view of buffalo and finish it off with dinner onsite. RV spots available on site also.

By Shelley P |

We took the train ride to see the bison, which was fun, and something you must do if you've never seen bison/buffalo before, but keep in mind these are habituated. You can feed them by hand from the train. They approach the tracks when the train rounds the bend. By the time the train stops, you're surrounded by bison looking for their handouts. The ranch has other animals as well: llamas, ostriches, and of course lots of horses. The trail ride is a nose-to-tail affair (no cameras, backpacks, etc. allowed), designed for those with little or no riding experience. The gift shop has a ton of stuff, but the prices are high. Glad we did it, but wouldn't do it again.

By Carren R |

We came here years ago for the bison train and lunch….it was great. Came back tonight to stay on our way to Denver….terrible! First, when we booked they said it would be $120 and when we got here they said it was $150 because of inflation. Everyone is hurting, so fine. BUT….for our $150, we got a bug infested cabin. We’ve killed over 50 moths, they are flying over me as I lay in bed. There is a fly trap hanging over the kitchen counter, a pan filled with water and bugs on the porch, the people who work here have terrible attitudes (except the train conductor) and the TV doesn’t work. When we questioned these things we were told “that’s just how it is on a ranch”. Take the train ride and move on….DO NOT stay here!

By Carolyn S |

After traveling all day from South Dakota we stopped in to the Terry Bison Ranch to have lunch. We had quick and friendly service and the bison burgers were delicious. These were cooked just perfectly and were not dried out at all like they sometimes can be. Lots to see and do at this place.

By William J |

Came to the ranch for the train to see the Bison up close. That part was great. However, it was a narrated trip, and the mic/speaker was an irritating static that no one could understand. I would think that for one day’s receipts, they could easily upgrade so people could hear the fun facts. OR, just speak at a normal tone of voice. The passenger car’s not too big for that.
If the narration problem gets fixed, I would definitely recommend. Otherwise, I personally would not return.
On the plus side, the gift store was awesome & had everything, and the Bar/Restaurant was also authentic Wyoming!

By TrvlMor04 |

My 7 year old spotted this place and said we had to stop. Cost was $15 per adult and @$8 for our 7 y/o to ride the train through the farm and feed the bison with unlimited treats. Our 1 y/o was free. We love animals and the train ride to feed the bison was an awesome way to kick off a day spent in Cheyenne. She still says it is a highlight of our trip! (If social distancing... we were able to sit on our own bench. :)) RR were cleaning. Can also camp.
Enjoy!

By Joanna L |

Really hard to enjoy in the cold weather! But if you bundle up it’s still fun! Fed the buffalo, rode horses and took a few photos. Only took us about an hour and a 1/2 to do everything.

By Jeanine B |

Took the grandsons to see this ranch. Lots of varieties of animals - exotic as well as farm. Took the train ride - which was about 15 minutes late in boarding and the boys enjoyed feeding the Bison. Wished there was a little more "history" on the ranch, animal feed, current workings, etc. They tell some of the history of the ranch, but not much. Gift shop was good - prices seemed a little high. Some of the animal areas were covered in feces and could have used a scoop out or two. Seems it could use a little better upkeep. That being said, we ate at the Senator's Steakhouse and it was absolutely delicious. Don't think you could go wrong in ordering anything there!!

By yayrockymtns |

We enjoyed our visit. Food in the steak house was average but good. Restaurant staff told us the train ride was $5. Suggest checking price online for actual price. Gift shop was pretty typical. We did take the bus/train ride to see and feed the bison. The guide seemed to have a lot of knowledge of bison and the history of the ranch, however given the very LOUD NOISE of the old bus/train we were not able to hear or understand him despite his effort to yell. As paying visitors to the ranch, if we were to make a suggestion, it would be to put some money back into the business as many areas seem to be aging. Also, we didn't care for the prostitute painting in the window as we now understand human trafficking and what a family oriented experience should be.

Happy adventures to you!

By Walt R |

The train is ok, a bit of a rough ride, fun if you never have been on a train.. and animal areas are entertaining if you have never viewed a farm animal. Camping is not at all a family friendly environment, highly uncontrolled and right next freeway, train tracks.. camping related pain wiped out any joy the rest of the place had to offer.. don’t expect staff to actually care about your experience.

By Heather L |

The ranch was a lot of fun! Bison feeding was the best. Only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the restaurant was super busy with it being Father's Day. We didn't get an opportunity to try it.

By Steve D |

The train ride to see the ranch and the buffalo was pretty cheap ($14.00 per person). The ranch is so big the short train ride takes you into Colorado for a short time. You can also feed the buffalo from the train. The bison burger was $20.00. Not a deal. There's lots to see there and camper sites are available.

By Brian M |

Went to Bison Ranch on border between Colorado and Wyoming and we were so glad that we made the effort. Bison train tour was low key, informative ,friendly and a great way to get close to these enormous animals. We hope they enjoyed being fed as much as we enjoyed our bison burgers in the on site restaurant!

By Beejaykay |

I was not going to have traveled 3,000 miles and not gotten to see the American Bison. After having no success in the Blackhills area or the Badlands of S. Dakota we decided Terry Bison Ranch was sure to be a sure thing. Although they are a very docile herd I think that made it better because we were able to feed them and view them really close. I have some magnificent pictures of various parts of the herd from Mama's with babies to huge bulls.

By MJB |

Save your time and money. You will have a better experience observing buffalo by driving 200 more miles in Wyoming to Yellowstone National Park and visiting the Lamar Valley. The Buffalo herd for viewing at the Terry Bison Ranch is TOO small (about 30) and is Too far away (about 100 - 200 yards). The buffalo at Yellowstone are right on top of you and the herds very large.

By Melissa C |

Kids had fun riding the Bison train. Recommend buying the bison food as you can feed them from the train, the kids loved that part. They also have horse back riding and ATV tours as well as 2 restaurants on site.

By TravelingFam_8 |

We didn't know what to expect at the ranch. We visited the gift shop and bought tickets for the tour. There is an interesting wooden vehicle (looked like a boat) that rides on a track around the ranch. BRING YOUR CAMERA! You actually get to feed the bison. They come right up to the vehicle and you are given big pellets to feed them. They will not bite as their top teeth have been removed (my least fav thing about the ranch).
There are also camels and other animals to see and photograph.
And...authentic cowboys and cowgirls.

By funtravels0412 |

Was told to go here for the buffalo burger and I was happy I came to try it out. Best buffalo burger I have ever had. Take some extra time to go and check out the animals or go on the train ride. You can actually feed the bison on the train ride!!! They come right up to he side of the train. Great for kids.

We were only in Cheyenne for one afternoon (for a soccer game) but we felt like we should do something touristy while we were there as none of us had ever been to Wyoming. We chose Terry Bison Ranch after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and noticing that it was conveniently located on our way back to Colorado Springs. It was the perfect activity for our family! My kids ages 6, 9, and 12 all had a great time riding the train out to the middle of the bison herd and feeding bison by hand. And best of all, the ranch is 100% pet friendly and our dog even got to ride the train with us!! This place is a hidden gem. By the time we left, we all felt like it had been a "bucket list" type experience.

By triplover51 |

Okay were not too sure what to expect here, but stopped to find we were the only ones there, so walked around a bit the decided to go for the train ride round the bison. More people arrived so we felt more at ease and tell you what it was a stop we were so happy to have made. Great curio shop, has camping, caravans and chalets to hire and the train ride was really good. They let you feed the bison from the train, so that was a plus. Really thought this was a great place.

By Barry J |

The one redeeming quality is that you do get to see Bison.

I NEVER give bad reviews, but I felt compelled because the contrast between the brochure and the actual delivery was stark. The buildings were dilapidated. It was dirty. It was a fabrication to suggest there were thousands of Bison, in reality I counted less than fifty. The animals were contained and appeared depressed. The train was rickety.

By VanEsq12 |

If you are interested in seeing bison and other wildlife like coyotes roaming free, this is a tour you want to take. Conveniently located right off the highway, this attraction offers overnight camping, kiddie rides, ATV tours, gift shop and restaurant. My husband and I found a brochure about this attraction in our hotel and used this venue for our first ATV experience. It was fantastic!! HINT: winds can get high - you need gloves and a full face mask for comfort. Helmets and goggles are provided.

By Tara |

My husband and I came with our two kids ages 11 and 9. We just found it along our RV route and we're so glad we did! Very adorable nostalgic property with great activities. We went horse back riding, ATV riding, and a scenic train ride where we learned about their Bison farm. The setting is an adorable and beautiful ranch with a prairie in the back ground. Laundry room and bathrooms were very clean and updated! We also had drinks at the bar in the on site restaurant ... Moscow Mules were delicious! My kids had a blast and this will be one of our favorite memories!

By NYDolphin |

The train ride could use improvement. The guide/conductor didn't speak during ride. For tourists like us, coming from Delaware, it would have been helpful to learn from the Buffalo on site, the ranch, other local information. The 45m ride was quiet and quick. Only highlight is your self feeding the Buffalo as they come close to the train car. Nothing fancy about the train car or location. Maybe coming at this time of year is not a good customer service experience.

By Steve W |

Good stop. Sites were level, lots to do at the ranch, office was very friendly. All we ask for in a one night stop-over.

By Ginger B R |

We loved our time here. We did the train ride, and bought one bag of cakes for the bison to share, which was plenty. Before the train ride, we wandered around and looked at all the other animals, but the train ride was the main event. Our guide was great...when we got to the herd, he let us stay for quite a while. Getting up so close to them was an amazing experience. I even got to pet one, gently. I do recommend.

By JulsGo |

We are vacationing in Estes Park but came across a brochure for Terry Bison Ranch... So we took off for the 90 minute easy drive... What a great experience! Every employee was extra nice... They answered all questions... We did the train tour to see the ground and get up close to the bison... It was great... The other animals, especially the draft horses, was a great extra... Well worth the trip! When we come back to Colorado next year, we will visit again!

This place has so many things to do with kids. Horseback ride, pony rides, ATV rides, train rides to feed camel and bison. Two playgrounds, unique rides for kids. Great huge restaurant and bar. Great food. To top it off the people that work here are incredibly nice and willing to accommodate your every need. Will stop here twice a year for now on.

By janU9282VB |

My partner and another couple went on the train ride. It was an average train ride through the ranch. The highlight was feeding the bison. You pay for your train ride and then need to buy bags of food for $2 to feed the bison. I think for the price of $12 and the length of the ride they could provide each guest with some feed for the bison. Kids would love it. The driver of the train told some interesting stories.

We had lunch in the restaurant. We did the prime rib sandwich special. It was just ok. I had a huge cold piece of fat on my sandwich. I would not go again but glad I have been there.

Great for families or singles I was in an RV, but the cabins there are nice and right on the ridge to watch the Buffalo I always stop when I am in the area and stay for a week.
They have a lot of unique playgrounds for kids that you wouldn’t find any place else. I love checking out the animals, horseback riding. (Pony rides for kids), and the train that goes several times a day to take people out to hand feed the buffalo.
Senator steakhouse is a must do when open It was close for renovations, when I was there.
There is a morning and lunch Café down by the horse stables my granddaughter. when she comes with me always heads for a large coffee cake. I like a good old fashion American Breakfast. Be aware that the Café is a spring/Summer Café, and closes sometime around Labor Day.

By Dr. K |

Why on earth would they smush all of the RV's together when there are literally 30+ functional spaces open? It was ridiculous especially during COVID. We were in a revolving cluster of rigs elbow to elbow of the course of a few days. The spaces are VERY tight as it is.

I was with a group of 50 people that came for a meal on Eclipse day. The Ranch was great to work with our delayed arrival due to Eclipse traffic. They were ready to serve us promptly when we arrived and took great care of us. They were attentive to the group members who had dietary requests.

We enjoyed the bison burgers very much. After dinner, we took the train ride around party of the property. The staff was fun and helped us enjoy our time at the ranch. We loved seeing the bison and feeding them from the safety of the train.

Thanks for a fun time!

Went there with friends on the basis of seeing and feeding bison. Went around the park in a home made train carriage, it was a hoot. Got to a herd of bison which as soon as they saw the train all came over, about 50 bison of all ages including a baby of 1 week old. Wacey, the driver and guide, who incidentally was fantastic, knowledgeable and helpful in every way as my wife and our friend are disabled and use mobility scooters. When Wacey opened the carriage door up came the bison, right up to the door, for you to hand feed, what an experience.

Just happened to notice this place when searching for things to do near Denver. We visit family in Westminster each year and look for different things to do. Didn't realize how close Cheyenne was to Westminster.

While the town of Cheyenne was much smaller than we expected and wasn't as exciting/pleasing as we were expecting, the Terry Bison Ranch on the way was excellent. What a fun time we had there. While we are older and didn't have kids with us, this was still a fun experience. The train ride out to feed bison was great, and there was plenty of time to have fun feeding the bison. Our conductor was very personable and entertaining.

While we personally didn't do everything on the property, in addition to the train and bison feeding, there are horseback rides, fishing, ATV rides, and several other things to do. Plenty just to see.

Definitely something to do for all ages. And while we truly enjoyed the visit, some activities would be even more fun with kids.

I was hoping to have a bison steak for lunch in their steak restaurant, but they weren't offering their normal menu items at lunch during July due to shortage of kitchen staff (a COVID impact as many businesses have encountered). HOWEVER, they offered a buffet instead which was excellent. Plenty of food. Staff were great. The interior of this restaurant building was amazing. Made us want to eat there just to be able to sit and admire it. In addition to regular eating, it is a great place for events (receptions, etc.)

[They did offer some sandwhich and other items in a walk up counter outside for those not wanting to do the restaurant.]

So we had a great time and ate excellent food. Very glad we made the hour drive up.

Definitely would recommend and hope to return in the future with kids/grandkids.

We visited Terry Bison Ranch for our sons 5th birthday celebration and had the WORST experience. The train ride to see the bison HORRIBLE. The “conductor” used a microphone that was insanely loud and I’m still dealing with hearing damage. I had my newborn baby on my lap and so I had to protect his ears from damage. This activity is NOT family friendly and I knew that when the conductor said, “do you want to hear a dirty joke?” I wish I could’ve gotten off the train, but we were stuck. Seeing the bison was just sad, especially the one with bloody spots and flies. Save your precious time and money. If we could go back in time, we would never have visited this awful place!

By Stephen H |

I have been there many times, know people on staff and have family that used to work there. If you are driving by from back east or are an overseas tourist stop in and look around. If the smell of horse manure offends your sensibilities, don't stop. Trail rides are offered and there is a train tour which gives you a chance to feed the bison. There are llamas, ostriches, a few camels and other animals to see. they offer camping from tents on up to full hookup sites for the largest motor homes. There are a couple of cabins to stay in also, and you may hear the coyotes howl at night. If you find that interesting great. If you like the wild west more sanitized with full concierge service you are in the wrong place. There is a bar and restaurant , general store and laundry facilities. You can even book the restaurant or other venues at the ranch for parties, weddings, etc. The ranch has a resort liquor permit which means you can take your adult beverage on the train ride or on a walk around the grounds as you watch the sunset. the prices at the restaurant are a bit touristy as are the prices for supplies at the trading post but you can find souvenirs for any budget. The restaurant is a bit hit and miss, I think partly because getting good staff for a seasonal operation is a challenge.

By Martin M |

This was amazing. We saw prairie dogs and then bison. We bought food in the store. When we got near the bison the lady in charge told us all about the bison. She opened the door and told us how to feed them. We had so much fun. I highly recommend Terrys Bison Farm. I would go back again.

By Debbie B |

This was a unique camping experience for us. The ranch is huge and has a lot of activities to offer: the bison train, horseback rides, ATV tours, trading post, wagon rides, various animals in addition to the bison including camels, llamas, ostrich, peacocks and more. Everything is well maintained. There are 2 restaurants on site. We had the bison short ribs from the steak house and they were outstanding. Folks in the office are friendly and helpful. The interior roads are easy to navigate. Good internet and T-Mobile signal. I guess the only negative is that the RV camping area is really just a flat lot, and the sites are extremely narrow. We were here off-season, so we had no-one beside us, but if the park were full I have to imagine it would feel pretty cramped. We would stay here again.

By wilson0272018 |

Our family ranging in age from 7-64 really enjoyed the train ride and feeding the bison. We were looking forward to lunch at the restaurant. The restaurant was not crowded at all, but the service was agonizingly slow. All but one of us finally got our food. We were nearly finished eating when the last person in our party got his very overcooked bison burger. What a disappointment. At that point, he couldn't send the burger back without making us wait even longer than we already had. Can't recommend the restaurant at all, but the rest of the trip there was fine.

By Reyna W |

The train ride was made spectacular by our tour guide, Chris. He is super hilarious.
We had bison short ribs after and it's amazing.
The restaurant ambience is so wild west I wouldn't be surprised ro see a cowboy come in and start a gunfight. It's like time travel back to old west inside that restaurant.

By SPD622 |

We came about 4 years ago and had a good time. Decided to bring friends and family this time. Getting a little expensive for the train ride and horseback riding. The conductor on the train ride was so annoying and loud. Made the ride not enjoyable because he thought he was a comedian and was so damn loud. He needed to pipe it down a little as it’s not funny to be so loud. Get him off the train!!

By Kes27 |

We stayed in a cabin. Spacious and clean with a porch overlooking the ranch which was beautiful at sunrise. The train ride to see the bison was great fun and informative. Feeding the bison was a great experience! We also ate at the steakhouse which was nice with friendly staff. I'd definitely recommend this as a great alternative to a hotel or just pop in for the train ride.

By GCCowgirl |

If you are traveling with horses this is not the place for you. Even if not you might want to rethink this destination. Firstly I haven’t done much Living Quarters RV-ing but we felt the sites were as close as these guys could possibly put us. When we pulled in the neighbors had to actually pull their awning in so we could slide out our slide out. We were so close that we couldn’t tell whose picnic table belonged to whom. The “welcoming” staff in the Trading Post were beyond grouchy and unhelpful. Acted like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. The laundry room was a sick joke. Signs everywhere stating the management wasn’t responsible for the machines not working correctly and under NO circumstances would there be refunds. Well the washers did not wash and spun so badly the laundry came out wet. The dryers did not dry no matter how many quarters you put in. One evening we went to give our horses water and they had locked the barn so we could not get to the hose bib. Unacceptable to say the least. Their “amusement park” was decrepit. The animals looked badly kept. The barn falling apart. Almost inhumane. Will never return. Oh yeah...breakfast at the Tombstone Cafe was pretty good. Just sayin’.

By HaleyJayne |

Very unprofessional. We could not get out of there fast enough. It was a terrible experience from beginning to end. We showed up at noon yet no snow was removed and we had to walk through snow to go up the ramp to get on the train. It was not a great experience for a guest who walked with a cane. The track was also not shoveled and we got stuck several times. We just wanted to leave and get out of there and we were stuck on a train on an unshoveled track.

By Delores T |

While visiting Cheyenne, my friends suggested we take train tour. The price was right and our ride included lunch in their restaurant. Train ride was fun and informative. Our guide and driver was Jonathan who was a wealth of info and humorous.
Our lunch consisted of steak and short ribs, cooked to perfection. Wait staff was pleasant and most accommodating.
I would do again if I return.

By crazistevoh |

The kids certainly enjoyed a train ride to feed the bison. Sierra was an awesome train guide, answering great questions and providing history about the area. Definitely windy area so dress warmly in the spring. Gift shop was nice looking but definitely overpriced.

By Bob L |

After reading some of the negative reviews, I wasn't sure if I wanted to make the 200 mile drive. However I figured feeding the Buffalo was worth the trip, and I was right. My 4 year old daughter loved it. So all you TBR haters out there STAY HOME. This is not Disneyland. It's a ranch, it's rustic, you will probably going to get your shoes dirty. They don't have hundreds of employees to ensure the Ranch is spotless. What they do have is a unique experience that your children will love, a nice giftshop, and a very good restaurant.

By LiveGreatStories |

From camels to ostrich to horses to peacocks, there are tons of animals at the ranch. The train ride take you to a spot where you can feed the bison.

By Donald S |

Brochures very well put together. Look better than what is there. Expected to see a lot of Buffalo, only about 50 in a enclosed field. Our expectations were to see alot more like at Yellow Stone. Train ride about an hour long, very difficult to hear the tour guide discribing all the history about the place, because the rail cars made alot of noise on the tracks. Even though there are alot of historical buildings, the place seemed very run down.

By mtnhappy |

Disappointing visit. We did the "train" ride, and it wasn't a train. In fact, they are falsely advertising the trains on their website (which conveys the ranch much more nicer than the actual ranch really is). The trains pictured on the website were off in the distance, but the "train" we were on was something of a converted bus of sorts. Thirty six people were crammed into this enclosed bus train, rubbing shoulders with strangers, some with masks and most without. It certainly made us feel uncomfortable because of COVID. The "driver" of the train was obnoxiously loud and yelled the entire time (no loudspeaker or microphone), so bring ear plugs! The train was disgusting and obviously hadn't been cleaned in a long time and had trash from previous guests still littered about.
We came here for my elderly dad's bday, and I had called ahead of time to see if the train would fill up, and the employee said no. We arrived 10 minutes before the 12pm departure on a Saturday, and it was full. So we decided to go into Cheyenne to pass time at the Wyoming State Museum until the 3pm departure. We should have stayed at the Wyoming State Museum...a much more worthwhile attraction.
The caliber of the ranch and train ride reminded us of a carnival and we felt like we had been duped into spending money on something not worthwhile.
Perhaps the only redeeming thing about the train ride was getting to feed the bison. Everyone puts their fingers into the same food barrel though, so not very cleanly with COVID. Perhaps the only redeeming thing about the ranch was seeing the huge white turkey. Skip this and head straight to Cheyenne for better attractions!

My family visited the Terry Bison Ranch on a quick trip into Wyoming, following a visit to northern Colorado. We took the ranch's train to see and feed bison. Our train was the last train of the day, and we were the only customers. As folks who are concerned about COVID-19, this was a relief, as we were told the prior tour had 60 people on it. The tour guide was extremely friendly, pointed out various animals, provided facts about the local area, and made the tour quite enjoyable. The bison were quite eager to be fed, and my family found the experience to be enjoyable and unique. My only concern is the fact that no ranch employees (including on the train or in the gift shop) were wearing masks; it certainly made me feel less than comfortable. With that said, however, we still had an enjoyable visit to the Terry Bison Ranch.

By feistyscientist |

BY FAR the best bison steak we had while in town. No gristle, superbly cooked. We will return just for the steak!

By Reeree954 |

Quick weekend trip to Denver with my hubby and we saw this off the highway while driving to Cheyenne, WY. We took the train tour. It was so much fun feeding the bisons. Our conductor Chris was a true comedian kept us laughing the entire ride. This was an adventure that’s good for all ages. I would highly recommend visiting.

By Upsettraveler |

I am writing this review after talking to the office manager who will not issue us a credit for our stay during July due to COVID and Chyenne frontier days canceling. Don’t stay here if there is an emergency they will do nothing to help you We were very good customers but not anymore

By ChasMartel |

The wife and I took our 3 yr. old granddaughter here on Saturday and she had a wonderful time. We rode the train around where she got a very good view of the camels and got very up close and with the buffalo, aka bison. Before and after the train ride the little one got to see lots of animals including ostriches, pigs, chickens, roosters, llamas, alpacas, donkeys, peacock, and horses. Lots of horses which she loves. They offer trail rides on the horses, but she's a bit too young. Maybe in a year or two. If you have children to entertain in the Cheyenne area, this is a good place to do it.

By Dennis S |

The Terry Bison Ranch is a short drive south of Cheyenne. You can take a "train" to get close to the Bison or go horseback riding. The ranch has nearly 3,000 bison. The train is a bargain at $12 per person. We bought some large pellet food to feed the bison from the train. They eat right out of your hand. There are other animals to see, but the main attraction is the bison. It was a great experience.

By Footprints234242 |

We had a change of plans on our way home to Texas. Though the concept is cute and touristy the RV park was deplorable. 50 amp plug wasn’t working so we inquired about any of the Empty 15+ spaces (It WAS late) we were assured they were sold out. When we woke in am those empty spaces were, yes, still empty. There was dog poop, trash and cigarette butts everywhere. No one was wearing masks anywhere. The steakhouse should be cited for health violations. Tables looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in days. We chose not to eat there not just because of pandemic but certainly not worth the risk.

By Ellie W |

Ok so this place is totally fun even in the winter. We had lunch- fine- big portions and a lot of meat based options. Then we did the train ride in the rain. There were not windshield wipers on our train, many windows didn’t open, the driver was very friendly but not easy to understand=3rd world to me. BUT: The whole point is to see and feed the bison. It’s fun with kids and mine laughed and laughed. As an adult it’s probably overpriced. I recommend it as a unique experience. Do it but don’t expect first class. It lasts 30 minutes or so.

By John E |

Not just Bison but Alpaca, Camels, Peafowl, Horses, Burros, Turkeys, and more! Bison Viewing via train ride. I cannot choose words adequate enough for the train but I considered uncomfortable, hot, bone-rattling, painful, exciting, informative and scenic among others. Bison close up and personal and even though it was far from luxourious, it is a must see for most people, especially youngsters. A good hour in duration with a real Cowboy for the engineer and narrator. We recommend going early as animals, being smarter than we were, take it easy in the heat of the day and cannot be bothered with treats then.

By danamorganbarnes |

Winter is still a good time to go get a good meal. Other times of the year you can visit the animals and really have a fun time! Locals and visitors need to come.

By erodrig26 |

We did the Bison train ride, pony ride and viewing of animals. The train ride is not what I thought it was going to be based upon pictures and videos that I saw. It is a vehicle on tracks but not a trains as we have all seen. It was a good ride around part of the property. During your ride you get to stop in a pasture with bison that will come up to your car and you can feed. The guide gave a very good tutorial about the bison and their history. It was a great experience. This was a great experience for the young kids in our party. They also enjoyed the pony ride which was in the pasture since we visited after labor day. Before and after the train ride we walked around the grounds and saw a number of animals in their enclosures and running around the grounds. It was a fun activity.

We came in on Sunday with about 100 people. The service and the food was wonderful. I’m not sure who are server was because there was so many people taking care of us. A lot of us went to the bar to order drinks. We were all really excited to see Steele bartending because she use to serve us at applebees. Terry bison ranch has friendly staff and Ofcourse a wonderful bartender! If anyone has any parties or events coming up, I’d definitely recommend terry bison ranch.
Only one small complaint- I understand this is a ranch but the flies were pretty out of control.

Thank you for taking care of us! We’ll be back!

By Frances A |

We stayed 3 nights at the Terry Bison Ranch RV Park. The views and the sunsets are spectacular! We took a ride on the ranch train out to see a bison herd up close! You have a chance to feed the bison which brings them right up to the train. There were lots of bison calves and they are so cute! We learned some ranch history, including the fact that Teddy Roosevelt spent time here.

By Agamashs |

We visited with kids of multiple ages. The location is easy to find next to the freeway. Unfortunately we did not have a great first impression as we tried booking multiple activities for our group of different ages. The ladies at reception were very unfriendly and treated us like we were a big inconvenience. Our first activity was the trail ride. When we arrived at the barn 15 minutes early as instructed, the staff was very flustered because the reception did not tell them we were coming so none of the horses were ready. We paid $45 for a one hour trail ride but in the end only rode for half an hour with all the time it took to get us ready and the ride was not extended accordingly. I do have to give a huge thank you to Katie our guide who dealt well with our group of beginning riders. If you go just know you will be riding next to the interstate for the most part as well. On our return we were told that the train ride we had booked was cancelled but we could go on a bus. The train ride cost $12. We were asked if we wanted to feed bison which cost $2 extra for the feed. The bus took us to a nearby field and we fed bison through the windows. The kids enjoyed seeing the bison up close and the guide was very informative but once again the experience did not live up to our expectations and no compensation was offered. We did not visit other any other animals but could walk to them if we wanted.

By dskjensen |

Lots of fun for the whole family. We enjoyed all the friendly animals and up close feeding the bison on the train ride. We started in a rain storm and ended in a beautiful overcast summer afternoon. The conductor was fun and friendly. Awesome time at the bison ranch!

By Mary Ann M |

On a positive note, the people are very friendly and personable.

The “train ride” consists of a old vehicle chassis rigged to look like a train. I am sure that the “train” was constructed and rigged by hand which resulted in an
extremely loud ride. (The guide has to shout to be heard). The maximum speed is 3 mph. We were allowed to feed the bison for about 10 minutes. Most of the bison were less than impressed with being fed, but perhaps they were full from earlier feedings. Overall, I think that it’s overpriced for the experience. ($18/adult) Having done it- I certainly wouldn’t do it again, nor would I recommend it to others.

By ransom007 |

The ranch is located just off Interstate 25 just north of the Colorado/Wyoming border. There is free parking throughout the public area of the ranch. There is a little "town" with a restaurant, a trading post, and other establishments. There are rooms for rent and a railroad that tours the ranch. After paying the train fee at the trading post, you go down to the depot and get on the little train. The route goes past enclosures for camels, llama, alpaca, goats, and peacocks. There are also riding horses and a fishing hole. After a bit, you arrive at the herd of bison. The train stops and you can feed the bison by hand from inside the train. After that, the train finishes its route by passing through Colorado for a couple of minutes and returning to the depot. The train operator gives a great deal of background information during the ride along with showing you how to feed a bison.

By Perry840 |

Spent nearly $30 for a rickety train ride and saw nearly nothing until near the end of the ride. Some bison approached the train and we able to hand feed some of them.

By Richard B |

Had a conference banquet at the Terry Bison Ranch south of Cheyenne...virtually on the Wyoming/Colorado boarder on I-25. The place is a real collection of western memorabilia with overall very pleasant atmosphere. Over all, the facilities were very adequate for about 150 of us. The food (admittedly we did not order off the menu as it was a prepaid banquet with the conference), was rather mediocre. Talked with a man who had eaten there previously and said that his previous experience was also mediocre respecting the quality and taste of the food. The kicker was that they ran out of food for our banquet and simply said that they weren't brining out any more food nor permitting those who did not get fed with an opportunity to order off the menu. For those late-comers, it was $35 down the drain. I was NOT impressed!

By louannr361 |

We had a wonderful time here with our family reunion: folks from 80 down to 20 months. The little trip out to see the bison was fun, although very bumpy, and our three year old granddaughter enjoyed feeding them. We liked walking around to see the other animals, and had a marvelous dinner sitting outside in the fresh air.

By And |

Lovely Ranch to do activities with kids.
Very rustic.
We did a train ride to feed the Bisons, pony ride, and there are also animals for petting. Trails if you have time and ATV rides, kids also played at the playground, there’s a souvenir shop inside the ranch and a restaurant, the tour guide from the train ride said you can fish and whatever you catch they can cook it for you for a fee of course.

By Kidzoomom |

My family of teens and grandchildren spent about 3 hours here today. It looks like they have had more activity there in the past. But we went ahead and paid the $12 per person for the train ride which consists of one car...Lol. The train stops in the middle of a herd of buffalo...oops...bison and there you can feed them. We met Dave the bison who was friendly and liked treats. After the train ride we went to the steakhouse which is extremely expensive. But if you don't mind spending $35 for a bison steak then have at it. All in all it was fun. Kids enjoyed the bison. Wish there had been more activities there but we must have gotten there during an off time.

By Debbie k |

We stayed at this ranch 3 days and although we are unable to ride horses and such it was a nice park. There was alot of activities for people if all ages and the bison were beautiful. We ate at their steakhouse and the food was excellant and there was entertainment. We also ate breakfast at the cafe there and they had the best bloody marys and mimosas.

By Tim |

Northbound on I-25 just past the colorado/wyoming border is where this place lies. Even though it's right off the interstate, you would miss it if you blink. This place is a Hidden Gem with lots of fun activities such as horseback riding the bison train where you can ride out and get up close and personal and feed the bison. There are also a multitude of different animals on the ranch you can see for free and the Senators Steakhouse is also on the property where you can get an awesome bison burger. If you're ever in the area you should definitely check this place out especially if you've got a family with children.

By A. Strand |

A morning horseback trail ride at the Terry Bison Ranch must be a perfect way to start the day. I do miss a bit more speed though.

By Cheyenne Conyers |

My fiancé and I took a horseback trail tour. Upon paying $90 for the tour, I asked if we would be able to take pictures on the trail. The cashier said "Let your tour guide know and she will stop to allow for pictures."

Once we were on the trail, our tour guide proceeded to tell us that if we were caught on our phones taking pictures, we would walk back to the stable. I paid $90. I would have liked a picture to capture the moment. She stated that pics could be taken at the stable. I can take a picture of a horse next to a barn anywhere. I would have liked the scenery in the background. We did not tip simply because of not being able to take pictures even once.

By E B |

We stumbled onto the Terry Bison Ranch and it was a highlight of our trip to Wyoming. It's a little kitchy but super fun and interesting (for east-coasters who had never seen a Bison before). I took it as a good sign that locals were there with out of town guests.

Definitely ride the train. The conductor was excellent -- making it fun for the kids and entertaining for the adults.

By philanddeblong |

Enjoyed this trip with family. Getting up close to the bison was an unexpected thrill. Seeing all the other animals along the train ride was just as enjoyable. Guide was very informative.

By Montana_Grandma_2 |

The middle of January we began planning a trip to Cheyenne Frontier Days and tried getting reservations for 3-4 RV's or pickup campers and all of the campground we contacted were full, including Terry Bison Ranch. However, they told us if we wanted to dry land camp in one of their pastures, (using generators) we could. This is what we will do. Will write a review the end of July 2017. At least we have a place to stay.

By ViolenceToad |

Visited as family with 4 kids and 2 seniors. Peacocks and turkeys surrealistically walking around in the snow. Super train tour by Chris - we fed the bisons; it was warm inside the train on a biting cold day. Nice gift shop and restaurant on the site.

By Cheryl D |

The bison tour is a ripoff-they take you slowly through the park with the animals which you could have walked through and seen, then on to the bison-which children might like as they come right up to the train-because they are fed some sort of pellets-you can hand feed them. The driver said we used to have "fish-but they died" tropical birds-but the coyotes ate them" Dog crap all over the campground-permanent trailer dwellings-complete with OSB boards for skirt, wood fences and tar paper like shacks attached-a restaurant on site was okay but anything bison was very pricey.

By Noah R |

We had so much fun at the Terry Bison Ranch, especially because of our conductor Chris (feel free to rub it in the others’ faces, Chris ;)). Dad jokes were on point!

By Angee S |

This place is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend this place. Friendly staff and beautiful animals. Getting to feed the buffaloes was fantastic!

By Geri M |

A must stop off whenever I’m near Cheyenne. Great gift shop. Laundromat. Play Area for children. I always go horseback riding, Old timer egg breakfast or Cinnabon at the breakfast shack. For dinner Bison burger and fries it’s a spot along with either wine or hey huckleberry vodka cocktail.
My granddaughter used to love the train rides to feed the bison and all the farm animals from baby kittens, horses, And some more exotic animals.

By Lisa V |

Costs $20/adult. We had 7 adults. The train is so “rickety” sounding (loud) that you can hardly hear the guide! We know we missed some of his info so this was a big negative! The bison know when train is coming and head right to you so you can feed them. Some are huge. Total time was about an hour.

By Sarah K |

We stopped in for a day visit and did not spend the night. The place is a bit rough but offers some outdoor elements at a reasonable price. The buffalo train is shorter than I would have imagined.

By Cati F |

It was truly wonderful from the moment our train journey began, as we were able to observe the beautiful natural scenery and the various animals inhabiting the ranch. Most beautiful experience to be able to see the Bisons 🦬 so close and feed them and touch them too.

By WAYNE B |

This ranch has it all they have a restaurant ,campsite ,ATV ride ,horseback riding.
Also the little train that will take you around some of the property where you can see the bison and actually feed them.
I was told that this is the biggest bison Ranch in the United States it is spread over 27,000 acres.

By shelbymeister |

There is a place you can shop while you wait for the train tour. Basic ,no frills open air carts pulled behind a small train. As up close as I want to get to a bunch of bison. Glad we stopped.

By reg v |

This is a real ranch that raises buffalo. The highlight is a train ride to feed 50+ buffalo cut from the main herd. On the ride you pass by all the other things to see on the ranch. The highlight is a 20 minute stop to feed the buffalo. They eat right from your hand!!! DON"T MISS THIS. The train ride was 14$ per person but clearly worth it. You can wander with the other animals for no charge!!

After the train ride spend some time with the animals (they have a little of everything with plenty of staff to answer any questions you have). While we were there they had several mares and ponies to pet. There is a campground, some restaurants, a gift shop and fishing. One of the highlights of our trip.

By Gail A |

On our trip home, driving I-25 north, high winds closed the interstate to high profile vehicle travel. We were then forced to stay in Cheyenne, and as many others were in the same boat, we were glad to find an RV park to stay in- which was the Terry Bison Ranch. Park grounds were okay- probably typical for the topography of the area. It looks like a fun vacation place with lots of old west stuff and oriented toward the bison. The store and old buildings are pretty cool- the steakhouse décor was terrific.

We loved this place. Food was great for breakfast and the train ride was really fun. Never thought we would be feeding bison out of our hands. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this for a fun day trip.

Terry Ranch is right off the highway, easy to find, and several choices for things to do there. I went for lunch at the old senator restaurant and it was great! Walked over to buy train tickets, and visited the great store.... where there is a bison and a jack alone...life -size that you can hop on a take a photo...cute....fun. Tickets for the train are pricey but there are some coupons out there for discounts.....and it also includes food that you feed to the bison...
The train isn’t a normal train, literally just a box on wheels, but good enough for what you do..
...which is to travel out to 5e bison pastures, where you stop to feed. The driver/guide we had was great! We were able to feed the bison from the train...up close and personal.....quite unique and fun.

It was a great trip!! Went to a family reunion and that was part of the group thing we all did! We took the train ride and by far the best thing was getting to feed the bison! The bison had to be pushed to get close to the train, don't think they were very hungry, but it was fun to feed the bison! The train driver was great, he answered all the questions, gave us a lot of information about the ranch, they had chickens, donkeys, pigs, horses and cows, great outing!

AWESOME experience. I HIGHLY recommend Terry's Bison Ranch. We came all the way from AZ to experience it and it was certainly worth the trip. Can't wait to go back!!!!

Have been to the ranch in years past and was fun. This time it’s run down the “winter” train is terrible! You can’t see anything and you can only feed the bison 1 at a time at the door. The diesel smell was unfortunate as well. Absolute waste of money. Sad to see this place fall apart.

Waitresses was great, food not so much. Too much pepper . Salad had bad parts. New York strip was full of fat, which I like fat but not that much. Squash /zucchini was floppy not crisp.

We went with our son, daughter-in-law and a 6 month old baby. It was a lot of fun. Got to see pleny of bison and the trip is well narrated by the conductor/tour guide.

It does get a bit cold out there (we visited on a pretty clear, sunny day in early January. Temp was about 30 F. Train doesn't have much (any?) heat so please come dressed for the conditons. Gets a little drafty on a one hour tour. But you get to see the bison in their element, and feed them.

It feels very safe and fun. They encourage you to visit the restaurant aftewards but we had enough by the time we got ouit and thawed out. General store is there and you can get some coffee and snacks. Not much else around.

To be perfectly honest we drove there, drove in, sat in our vehicle and looked around, looked at each other and said forget it and left. It reminded me of similar roadside zoos and animal attractions, it just didn’t give off the right vibe and it was small. Not for us. I’d rather see bison in a National or State Park.

We visited on a weekday in July. Took the train ride, and it was great. The train stops in the middle of a buffalo herd, and they come right up to the cars. Tip, try to plan a morning train ride while it is still cool so the buffalo approach the train rather than seeking shade. Food is provided free and you can feed them and get buffalo slobber all over your hand. Our guide told us that Dances With Wolves was filmed here. There are also lots of other animals on the property that you can see, and many can be petted. You can sign up for horseback riding, and there are also many smaller rides for kids. The souvenir shop is great and well stocked. Bring the whole family. This place is great!

Good for families with young childen. Went because my husband wanted a bisonburger. It did not sit well.

Like other reviews I was informed that they will not issue a refund on a prepaid stay. I was scheduled to stay during Frontier Days but all rodeos in Wyoming were canceled. I can't speak to the accommodations and will never be able to because I will not be doing business with them again. I can understand running a business and would have even accepted a partial credit as a gesture of goodwill but they were curt in their refusal.

We went for a horse back ride, we went out on the train to feed, touch and pet the bison, nice gift shop and just a nice relaxing experience. Friendly people and animals.

We had a surprise birthday party for my husband 65 th birthday.
These people were amazing. Not only could they keep a secret but went out of their way to make it so memorable. I would highly recommend this place. The buffalo 🦬 was so cool. Your are able to feed them. Yes I just said feed them. The food , the building, the atmosphere, and Cabins were all wonderful. But honestly the staff felt like family. I am not going to mention names because EVERYONE was perfect. You won’t be disappointed.

It is not real attractive looking when you first pull up but a great place to see a variety of animals up close. We loved doing the Bison tour and getting to feed the Bison. We also did the hour long horse back riding. It was a good little ride, but you don't see too much more than you do on the bison tour. UNLESS the Bison are in the fields, that would have been really cool to ride near the Bison.

We waited a long time (45 minutes) for our order, after waiting 15 minutes to order. But the bison burger was delicious.

We were pleasantly surprised by this place! We didn't expect much as we pulled in due to the run down look, but we soon realized that it's like that on purpose to look "old west"-ish. They had very cool exotic animals, ostriches, camels, llamas etc, and the bison herd was very majestic. The "trading post" i.e. gift shop, was more impressive than expected as well and well priced for a tourist trap. The steakhouse was expensive but well worth the price in our opinion, very well cooked bison dishes. There was an area that looked like it had kids rides but they weren't in operation when we visited, I'd like to go back in the summer maybe and see if they run them during peak tourist times maybe. Overall a great time though and we plan on returning for more fun soon!

We stayed here with our grandchildren on our trip to Yellowstone. It is a field with hookups, gravel sites, but it is a working ranch. The kids got to feed and pet buffalo on their buffalo train ride. The train goes through the fields where some of the buffalo will come up to the train for alfalfa pellets. The "conductor" told us that the buffalo were still wild so do not go out of the train. But they know there is food so they come up and everyone gets to pet them. We also saw donkeys, horses, chickens, turkeys, annd lots of baby animals. The kids loved it.

This is an awesome place to go to. You go out onto the ranch by train and they let you feed the bison as they come up to the train. The train ride is about 1.5 hours long. As you are riding the trian they explain about the bison and about the ranch. It is a great place for kids.

We didn't have a lot of time, but were able to ride the train and visit the gift shop. The gifts shop had a lot of cool gifts, and reasonably priced.

The train ride was more than we hoped. Not only did we get to feed bison, we also got to feed camels. The guide was friendly and informative. The scenery was beautiful. And, of course , feeding the bison was so much fun! The cost was less than what it would have cost us to go to the movies, and so much more interesting. We're looking forward to going back.

We really enjoyed feeding the bison. The ranch is quaint but in need of updates. Bought some bison meat to take home.
Train ride was slow but feeding the bison made it fun.

Enjoyed the ATV ride was better than the train. The animals in the pins were disappointing. Smelled horrible. Food at the steak house was good.

I took a buffalo train ride at Terry Bison Ranch Resort. I had an amazing experience getting to feed the buffalo from the train. I was so amazed at how close we were able to get. The tour guide Mike was a great guide and was very knowledgeable about all things and answered everyone’s questions. He was a very funny guy as well as personable. If you get to ride on the bison train make sure to ask for Mike because he’s the best!!! Will definitely come again.

The train ride out to feed the Bison is a great ride and experience. I would also highly suggest stopping by the trading post gift shop as well as the restaurant!

The Terry Bison Ranch is a fun way to spend a couple of hours while in Cheyenne Wyoming. They have lots of other animals to see but the highlight hands down is the interaction with the bison. You get to feed them or just observe depending on what you enjoy doing. It's amazing how large the animals are and seeing them up close and personal is a unique experience. You take a narrated tour in a custom built train. There are plenty of departure times starting at 9:00 AM and ending at 6:00 PM. Cost is very reasonable......$14.00 adults, kids ages 4-12 $7.00 and 3 and under free. Best of all, no reservations are required. We were there 3 weeks ago so we took the early tour since it's summer; however I think we could have gone later and still been comfortable. Highly recommend you have lunch there.........the bison burgers are fantastic.

The only reason I am rating this so low is because of the service, especially in the restaurant. It took us 3 times to say hello to the Hostess yesterday (Father's day no less) 6/21/20, before she even said anything about seating us. The waitstaff was also ,.. odd... very unprofessional. I have some service background and the waitstaff here was unprofessional. The waitress basically walked by and threw the salad on our table. I was going to say something to her about it being our first time there, but she didn't seem like she was interested in serving us. I got that feeling from most of the waitstaff.. and again, with this being our firs time.... I was very disappointed that the atmosphere did not seem friendlier. Also,, what is with all of the colored hair ? And the guy serving the prime rib with the gauges in his ears.. sorry, but.. odd. I couldn't tell the waitstaff from patrons as the waitstaff was not wearing any kind of uniform or coordinating outfits.. other than the people serving the larger parties I guess. It was all pretty odd. When we were finished and walked up to the front desk to pay....we stood there for 5 minutes before any of the 3 people there ackowledged us, again... then the girl put her hand out to take my check and my debit card and didn't even ask how everything was until after the payment was ran through. Again, my biggest peeve was the acknowledgement of our presence ...I did not feel like a valued customer. Very disappointed in the service staff here.

My family stayed at some of the cabins. We also rode the train and fed the Buffalo. That was fun. That evening we ate dinner at the steak house. It was delicious! Thanks for accommodating my family.

I was looking forward to going to this place all week. It was so much fun being able to see the buffalo that close and being able to feed them. My son at first didn't want to feed them and gave it a try and ended up liking it. I hope to come back here again some day. We also enjoyed seeing the other animals too.

My family and I visited here over the 4th of July weekend. Although there were a large number of campers there was plenty of room for everyone. We purchased tickets for the train ride and were not disappointed!! I would recommend calling ahead of time for the train schedules if you are wanting to streamline your trip. The train takes you around the 27,000+ acre ranch and the conductor points out various buildings and their history as well as shares his knowledge of the ranch, how it was and how it is today. You can purchase bison food for a small fee because the train will actually stop out in the field so you can feed the bison from the train!! There are numerous other things you can do at the ranch, horseback riding tours, ATV tours, and there is a small carnival ride area. We did not go on these this trip but our hope is go back and take one of the longer tours.

Awesome experience. Our table was assigned in advance so we walked in & were seated immediately. There were so many food items to choose from & all very good. Omelet station, ham, lamb, prime rib, buffalo ribs & meatballs, chicken. breads, salad, appetizers, sides and desserts. Totally stuffed when we left. Will definitely go again.

What a fun day! A little on the pricey side but I found it to be one of the best highlights of my whole trip. Property covers a span in both Wyoming and Colorado. Interesting facts, good for the whole family. Wheelchair activities are limited but there's tour guided horseback riding in various lengths, a train tour of bison that you can handfeed, rv camping sites available as well as cabins to rent nightly/weekly/monthly. I highly recommend. Coin laundry and showers are also available on the property. I do not recommend their Senator's Restaurant though. Despite being rustic (which I love) the prices were not worth the meal. I'm not a picky eater but I've had better steaks elsewhere. I did not try the cafe' on site but that morning their breakfast sure smelled good. Kudos to all the staff for they were very polite and helpful.

Chose to visit here and take my grand daughter for the day.. She wanted to go horseback riding. Most of the ratings were good so I was expecting an enjoyable day…But we drove in and to be honest it’s pretty hokey. It definitely has seen better days. We didn’t stay.

By TrailBlazer709386 |

Paid $60 to park in a field overnight & wouldn’t have even had electricity if we had not had a converter as the 30amp plug was broken & we pulled in after the office closed. It’s a large field. No lights & the markers are 1/2 peeled off so finding your site is a challenge. Would not recommend this campground if you have another choice.

By Mark |

This is not Disneyland, it is a working Ranch so the facilities are weathered. For a ranch is in good condition but is not pristine. Campground is a bit tight but has full hookups that work. Overall a nice place.

Great day trip from Colorado. An easy drive from Ft Collins snd right off the highway. Great folks and lots of farm animals to interact with. We did the train ride, fed the bison and rode horses. Also just walked around the ranch grounds. They have RV camping too but we didn’t stay overnight at the he ranch.

Great excursion for trip to Denver. My wife joined me for a work trip to Denver. We decided to take a day and visit Cheyenne. Terry Bison Ranch was definitely worth the 1.5 hour drive. We did the train ride (fed the Bison), horse trail ride and toured the facility. It’s a little rundown but it fits the ranch theme. Restaurant was good too.

RV Camping
Big rig friendly Western Ranch. If your looking for a well manicured RV campground, this is not the place for you. This is a working ranch. The animals are absolutely beautiful and healthy looking. The buildings are weathered with age and create a warm welcoming friendly western atmosphere. Restaurants on site bison tour and horse tours on site. What a FUN place. We luved it. Our dogs had an adventure waking all around the grounds. Definitely would come back.

The RV park is just a sea of gravel. The laundry has machines that take your. Obey but do not dry your clothes. When I told staff, they did not refund my $1.50 and said that the owner was the only one that could put an out of order on the machine. Sad management. The pony ride was a typical carnie ride. We would recommend the train ride where you can feed huge bison by hand. Tombstone restaurant has a nice breakfast eaten with cars on the table, peacocks squawking, and chicks running around the table. We are twice at Senator Restaurant—prime rib and bison shorts ribs were a hit. Wait staff were friendly and courteous.

This ranch has a great little train and buffalos! It's worth the trip to feed and see all the buffalo calves. It's a huge ranch, 2nd largest in the nation. The animals seem to be well cared for and although I wouldn't want to walk with the bison, they seemed happy enough to eat from our hands. This is also the home and resting place of the big buffalo from Dancing with Wolves!

By Anna S |

If you love animals this is one of the place you want to visit especially if you have kids. The store at this ranch is way overpriced, just unbelievable. Bought a magnet and it was price at 9 bucks just outrageous. But overall this place is a good experience.
