Nice paved trail for walking and jogging

By Dr. Will G. |

If your looking for exercising in Boone NC this trail is ideal . Safe and picturesque . You will definitely will enjoy this trail

More than meets the eye!

By DDinNC |

A local dog trainer meets her group walkers at this location. I had been to the Greenway Trail, that same area, last year. But, this group expanded my experience when we crossed over the river into a beautiful wooded area. It is a magical stroll either with your two or four legged best friend!

Nice for a roll or a stroll!

By Lindsay C |

Very nice trail with well maintained bridges and pavement. Lots of wildlife and birds to view. The trail was gently rolling and was easy enough for my 5 year old novice biker to handle. Definitely a nice way to spend the afternoon!

Nice easy trail

By panchopup |

This is a nice easy trail. If you walk far enough it goes down by the river and the old stone power plant which looks like the ruins of a mini-castle.

Walking at it's best

By joseph1971 |

Great place for walking. Beautiful area, flat and paved. Good place to bring food and have a picnic. Covered picnic area. Large parking lot. Sits just behind the Boone Fire Department. Down side is no real bathrooms, other then porta potty. Also great place for large gathering, and nice big open grass areas. If you like long walks this is the best place to go!

Easy, relaxing trail for walking, running or biking

By LeAnn G |

Bring your kids along on their bikes and chat with a friend while you walk on the Greenway. This easy paved trail is easy to access, has ample parking, is pet friendly and a great place for your kids to practice their bike riding. Not great for adult cyclists. There are lots of dogs (on leashes), runners, walkers, and kids on bikes. The trail winds around fields where college students often meet to play intramural sports and you can catch an occasional rugby match.

Easy Scenic City Trail

By WSkepns |

Well maintained and very pleasant. Walk and run with the locals. Parking is behind the Community Center and gives easy access to the trails. Mostly flat.

Miles of solitude

By Passportanywhere |

Boone is so far ahead of other cities with this greenway and future expansion plans. Maps along the route. Restroom facilities. Beautiful route along the headwaters of the New River.

Great, easy hike

By Thomas W |

Always an enjoyable walk in the mountains. Set your own length and rigor. Beautiful views of the best of nature.

Great place for a walk or jog.

By DaveKoppenhaver |

My wife and I walk here regularly. You can got up to 4-5 mi. or more depending on the loops and extensions and direction you take. Parking is never an issue. Variety of birds if you enjoy watching. Deer come down to river around dusk.

A Special Community Treasure

By Frank P |

Went for the first time and we were all amazed at the Beauty of this extensive area of Nature, the vision of many and a Gift for all. All of this in the heart of Boone. Fields, streams, wildlife, jogging path, fit bridges and historical. Benches for comfort, fields for organized sports, great parking area. The varied landscape takes you through wooded areas and into flat and hilly area. There are varied access points so just Google The Greenway. Go and enjoy. Dog friendly, bike friendly and people friendly. Enjoy all seasons, designed for all fitness abilities.

A haven in town :)

By mckmary |

I love having this haven right at my office and right beside everything. I am able to walk my dog or just walk out during the day and get into the woods and relax and recharge!

Trail was great

By TiffanyR1985 |

The greenway trail was close to town and very easy to access. There are multiple ways to enter the trail. Plenty of parking. The trail is flat and paved and has a pretty covered bridge. The trail is right beside the South Fork of the New River and there are several places to access water. The trail is very pretty and is a nice way to get out of town and get into nature. There were a lot of people out and the trail felt very safe even if you were by yourself.

Very nice.

By Dianne L |

We were looking for something to do to occupy our afternoon and decided to go for a walk in the park. What a beautiful place! There was some cross country activity going on. The next day, I decided to go there for a run, and a cross country race was underway. There was still plenty of room to run without getting in their way. Will definitely visit again if we are in the area.

A gem

By mtnman67 |

Great to have such a wonderful trail system in town. Wish they would connect it to Blowing Rock and the Parkway trails sometime soon.

Beautiful Bike Trail

By acedaughter |

Nice paved, easy bike trail. Could use a little more signage so you knew which way to go at certain points. Love the covered bridge!

Greenway Trail

By Venkateswara V |

Nice walk for the novices. The trail follows a stream and is easy for for families with small children. Folks inclined towards more challenging hikes or looking for more interesting vistas are likely to be disappointed though.

Out and Out Outstanding for Outdoor Lovers!

By AppalJack |

The Greenway Trail is hard to beat for anyone who enjoys walking, jogging, biking, bird-watching, or , just taking in the glorious fall foliage along the New River. Goes for miles. is paved, vehicle and smoke free, and easily accessible.

Great for walking or bicycle

By Thomas C |

Very convenient inside Boone. Interesting river and trails. Near level with slight inclines. There are also gravel path extensions for even more trail walking.

Convenient

By cjkines1 |

Nice trail that is so convenient to town. Well kept and well traveled, but easy way to see nature and get some exercise

Gentle Walk

By Peter H |

Nice, in town, paved walking trail. Essentially level. Go as far as you like.

Nice picnic pavilion at the starting area.

Close to town and a nice easy walkabout.

By Boone Native Expert |

This Town of Boone flood plain flat walkabout is not as nice a Blue Ridge Parkway trail but the nicest inside the town of Boone. Not bad for a qiuck getaway stroll for exercise.

By Klb333 |

Flat for Boone and a fun little trail through the town. Easy to do 1-5 miles. Lots of trashcans and pet poop scoop stations (though too many owners don't use them so watch your step). Also a portapotty or two which has saved me a couple of times.

Interesting trail.

By Matthew W |

Nice views along the way. Easy walk. Currently there is some construction going on along the front part of the trail. My kids enjoyed seeing the old dam, and if you pay attention you can go down to the stream and across to the other side. Lots of fish and crawfish in the stream, but look out we did see a few snakes as well.

nice trail, but watch out for the dogs

By bgins |

This trail is well used and is nice for a jog/walk, but for some reason about 80% of the people with dogs decide they don't need a leash. So be prepared as it appears the leash law in Wautaga county is not enforced. On a wet day, expect to get a little muddy or wet.l

Pretty area

By trvlne1 |

This was a great trail for walking, running or biking. The area is very pretty. We were just passing through Boone and enjoyed taking a long walk. We saw a racoon, three types of birds, butterfly's, chipmunk and a centipede. There is also a wonderful playground before the trail.

Construction

By badgerette65 |

This trail is normally delightful, but be aware that a great portion of it is under construction. We walk it every year when we visit the area. Hopefully it will be completed by 2018. I will give it a good rating because it was and will be great, just not now.

Peaceful

By Tiffany S |

Personally my favorite place to run in Boone. There are nice paved trails as well as cross-country trails for a little more adventure. The "ruins" are pretty cool as well. My only caution: If you are running or biking, the leash law for dogs is rarely enforced and some owners will let their dog fly after you. It's happened to me a few times, but you can't control other people, what are ya gonna do, ya know?

Go enjoy the weather and the ride. Or run. Or walk.

Great in town walk/hike

By saskin |

Very convenient, paved trails, and good parking area. Easy to get to from both sides of the town. Wonderful activity after a great lunch Pepper's Restaurant.

Peaceful walk or bike ride

By clandjudy |

We love to take a walk in this trail and sometimes ride our bikes. There is always someone there with a child, pet, or their significant other. So much to see and do or maybe just take a chair and read a book in the shade. The city is in the process of building a community center at the site but most of the area is ready to visit. A group could enjoy volleyball, soccer, frisbee with dogs, bal fields, playgrounds for children, swimming pools, and more. Super great place to visit.

Convenient, well-maintained, a big PLUS for Boone

By Noah W |

I wish we had a trail like this at home in Asheville! A great amenity, well-maintained and highly convenient. Could use some better signage when it crosses streets, maybe a couple more maps along the route, but that's about it as far as negatives go.

Peaceful spot

By Katie B |

We stopped here on a quick trip through Boone. Easy to find, lots of parking, and beautifully maintained. We had great weather and rode our bikes on the trails for about 45 minutes. Flat, easy ride. We saw a few people wading in the water or floating down the creek. There are a few stops along the trail with picnic tables and benches. Several small bridges to walk/ride over. Worth the visit.

great for walking, biking, playing with kids and dog friendly

By Duke S |

nice flat place in the hill country to walk, jog, bike play frisbee, walk dogs etc. It runs along a creek much of the way, very nice paved track well kept. Lots of grass, benches, picnic tables, playground equipment etc.

Amazing Trail in Boone

By Pat C |

Short hike or long, this trail offers a great variety of terrains and views. There s even a covered bridge. Trail is along the river which adds to its appeal. Several ball parks and very well maintained. Can take trails off of the main one. Great for bikes and trikes, dogs and kids. Easy to access in several places and good parking. Helmets required for cyclists.

Great walk

By Matastrophe |

Beautiful little loop through a wide open grassy area located only a couple minute walk away from the hotel.

Boone's Greenway Trail offers a Natural Setting Near an Urban Area

By Joe Lowman |

The Town of Boone was wise to build a greenway park system on it's property along the flood plain of the South Fork of the New River as it meanders through Boone from near the Blowing Rock Road to the eastern edge near Highway 421. Over 2 miles in length the main paved part of the Greenway Trail is accessible to those in wheelchairs. A couple of bridges , one covered, cross the lovely New River, which is popular with children interested in throwing rocks and anglers seeking pan fish, bass, and even trout. The Greenway Trail is relatively flat making it attractive to walkers, parents pushing strollers, runners, cyclists, and, in season, cross-country skiers. Nearby unpaved trails make the greenway trail area especially popular with cross-country runners and a number of high school teams come up each year from the flat lands in late July and August to train in the cool mountain temperatures. Near the main parking lot a fascinating water sedimentation area designed with the help of Appalachian State University's faculty shows how urban run off can be collected to remove pollutants and to offer a habitat for birds and aquatic plants. An old dam site marks the location of Boone's first water system. The fact the the sewage treatment plant on the northern end of the trail smells need not distract excessively from the beautiful mountain setting close to Boone's main urban shopping area along the Blowing Rock Road. Three parking areas offer access. A large one at the Burney-Clawson Park is near the Watauga Aquatic Center across from the National Guard Armory. One smaller lot is located off Deerfield Road and offers a lovely smaller park with shaded benches. The second small lot is accessible off highway 421 and is a bit harder to locate. Newcomers would be advised to approach from the Blowing Rock Rd. end. Picnic shelters and porta johns are also available near the main parking lot at the Burney-Clawson Park.

Nice place to walk

By KathySmiles |

The green way is a nice rolling place to walk. It is safe. It is located close to the hospital so itis a great place to take a break if you are visiting a loved one in the hospital.

Great

By scott10jo |

Wonderful paved trails, great for a good walk or a bike ride. Mostly flat ground which is hard to find in the mountain town of Boone.

Nice walkabout

By Kristen T |

My husband and I were in town visiting and had wanted to do some hiking, but the weather was quite rainy so we opted to walk this trail instead of something more challenging. This trail was fantastic! It was paved for most of it and well marked. It offered some lovely views of trees and fields. It was the perfect walk for a rainy day with our dog.

Easy walk, great for strollers & dogs

By JTodd_Ps143 |

This is a great place to meet friends for a walk. Nice scenery, lots of people & dogs walking on these trails. Very level, good for an exercise-pace walk or run.

Great place to take your dog

By Rph001 |

This trail is part of ASU and is well kept, safe, and beautiful. There is a running creek, with a beautiful covered bridge. There were lots of happy dogs and wide open spaces. Great place to bring kids on bikes as well as it is far from any roads.

Beautiful trail!

By Tiffany R |

Visited the greenway trail and it was very nice. Definitely a gem in the middle of downtown Boone. Great place to walk and view water, wildlife and flowers. Beautiful place and very relaxing and calming. Will definitely visit again!

Nice scenery and decent exercise

By gatorgal1972 |

We took our Frenchie to the Greenway recommended by the hotel and really enjoyed the experience. It was difficult to find the parking area, but it was close to the walking trails. There are benches to rest on should the need arise and flowers to brighten your path.
Turned out to be a nice experience for exercise and fresh air.

Really disappointing greenway. Waste of time, don't bother.

By katiestep9 |

After researching some of the better things to do in Boone, We ended up trying the Greenway trail. First of all, it is nothing more than a loop of asphalt and weeds- totally unlike it's hype. The trail starts and stops at various confusing sections- even as small as it was, the signage was terrible. One of the entrances was in a neighborhood I didn't feel particularly safe in and was glad my husband was with me. The other entrance off a main road in town near a restaurant, began with a walk under a viaduct./bridge area riddled with trash and what was apparently a place where homeless or other folks looking for a hideout may gather. Part of the trail is a walk around an industrial looking area. Nothing scenic about this. You won't even feel like you are in Boone. Felt more like an economically depressed city in anywhere, USA.

Cemented

By Ver |

We wanted to walk among nature. Not cemented tracks that are slippery and really not good to walk. Hey, get a grip.

Nice evening trail

By Michaelfe |

A very nice, well paved trail not far from Watauga Medical Center.
The trail is kinda loop, about 3 miles, very flat and super nice for a relaxing walk.

Great little walk in Boone.

By William B |

we got on the greenway at Brookshire park in Boone headed away from town . Walked about 3 miles total and enjoyed the wild flowers. See enclosed pictures. It was last weekend in August and very quiet only saw a few people. Main section is paved. As you get near the end there is a trail that goes left and up a short steep climb that is gravel. Stay to the right and you go to the top with a nice view.

Suprisingly a highlight of our trip!

By Freedom352013 |

We went to boone for about 24 hours... after checking out of the hotel, we took our dog to the Greenway trail at 7:30 am... Not sure where to park but its beside the fire station right off the road... we went here while waiting for a breakfast place to open at 8 am... it was very nice! covered walkways, people walking/running at their leisure. Pretty scenic and right off a main street. We enjoyed this very much and would come back and do it again. Would be nice to have something like this in our area!! It seems you can walk the trail anytime without time restrictions.

Currently Under Construction

By BrittSprink |

Very pretty trail that has paved and dirt options. Due to the current construction, there is no loop to bring you back to where you started, so you will just have to turn back the way you came. Be prepared to double your stroll! :)

Trails right in town but feel miles away

By GailCheryl |

Tho it was raining, my pal and I had a grand walk up the mountain and it felt like we were lost in the mountains, tho only 20 minutes from the car. There are bathroom facilities and wide lovely trails. There is a ton of poison ivy just off the trail, so best to stay on the wide trails. A Boone treasure.

Really nice place to walk with or without your pooch

By MGordonCharlotte_NC |

The Greenway Trail is a delight. Easy walking on well paved flat surface...quiet and relaxing. A few benches are scattered throughout in case you just want to sit for a bit and enjoy nature.

nice walk

By SC-EX |

flat walk. make it as challenging as you want or don't want. nice rec facilities nearby. walk along creek.

Lovely paved walk and get scenry

By Laurel G |

Being a local we use the Greenway often. I enjoy lease walking my dogs there, since I have a hard time on uneven ground. I find friendly people walking and running the Greenway. It has beautiful creeks, lush vegetation, big shady trees to rest under. Areas span a variety of things to see and do. There's baseball diamonds, children's playground, bridges throughout, and public park. I can only use a portion of this treasured park, but am proud of our local trails.

Great trail! Great locatiion!

By Rjw1 |

The main entrance is located at the large athletic complex right off the main drag near downtown Boone. The are several long paved trails, as well as a number of unpaved trails. The paved trails are great for bikes and wheelchairs.

Not to be missed

By travelersinpa |

This beautiful resource in the middle of Boone is a mountain jewel. The trail is appropriate for walking or riding a bike. It is level, scenic, and safe as it winds behind and through retail locations, past recreational fields, and skirts the headwaters of the New River, encompassed by mountain hillsides.

Green is the Way to Go!

By Chad E |

I love the Greenway Trail. It's always peaceful and inviting, especially on warm Spring and Summer days. Everyone out there is typically friendly and seems to be enjoying themselves. The trail is great for a casual bike ride. There are off-road trails you can veer onto as well if you prefer a more challenging adventure. I can't wait until the new renovations to the Greenway and it's connection of the trail to Blowing Rock are finished.

The best thing about living in Boone!

By Carolyn G |

You can walk, run, ride your bike, take the dog, take the kids. Walk on a paved trail or venture off on a dirt trail. You can make it as challenging as you would like -- walk a small flat loop or run up and down hills. You can also relax with a picnic lunch. The scenery and nature is beautiful. Safe and well maintained.

Nice flat 4 mile hike

By bsorge |

We parked in the parking lot and set out on the 2 mile trail each way. Very flat and paved. Lots of runners, bikers, and hikers. Path takes you over covered bridge and then along the river. Construction going on to replace water pipes.

A piece of heaven in heaven.

By Jim V |

The Greenway Trail is a lengthy paved path that extends around the edge of Boone. It is currently being extended to include an additional couple of miles of pathway to the east of Boone. The path is great for cycling, running, walking, exercising dogs (on the leash, please). After several hours of doing the tourist thing in Boone, the Greenway Path is a nice break.

Pleasant walk

By Penny J |

Need a place for a quiet stroll after eating? This is it. Nicely paved wide walking trail - some shade. Very well maintained

Great Exercise/Nature Spot

By Kpickeral |

I love to go there after work and walk the trail. Every season is incredibly beautiful in Boone and walking the trail is an excellent way to sample the beauty from the safety of a paved path.

My lunch time go to for a nice walk or run

By Jen |

Weather pending, this is my go to for a lunch time walk or run. Always well kept, clean, and the path is well maintained. I feel safe and the trail has many different options; both paved and not.

By Waitresshwy |

This trail is really beautiful. You have a good view of the mountains along with a wide streaming river! The trail includes open fields to play in. It also has picnic tables and places to relax. My problem is that the trail only includes one map at the beginning, and it has many separate paths to take. Once you get to the end you finally realize that it doesn't lead you back to the beginning and you have to walk the whole 2 miles back. Some parts are very muddy and narrow. Overall a good place to go.

Nice for a walk or run, but if you're in town as a tourist, skip it

By Tarheel_on_the_go |

This is a simple, but pleasant, greenway park. That's it. Aside from the paths that lead to it, it's a paved .4 mile loop with a few benches. I connected to it while out for a run. I was in town as a tourist and glad I didn't make a stop with the whole family as it's not a "sight" to see.

Great, flat walking trail

By TwoNCTravelingFools |

This is an exceptionally well maintained, flat trail in Boone. It is very scenic and used by walkers, bikers and rollerbladers. Parking is ample and there is access to portable bathrooms that are always clean.

By Brian F. |

We like to take the dog out to the greenway on Sundays. This is a great place for a relaxing walk year round. It's nice to take a pic nic lunch out there and just chill also.

Good Easy Walking Trails

By Jeff K |

Good trails some adjoining the river. Paved and gravel. Good scenery. Right in town. Enjoyed the paved trails after hiking some rough ones.

Great place for a family bike ride

By MommyVernon |

We enjoyed a fun family bike ride at Boone’s Greenway Trail! We will definitely be back. This place is a treasure! Flat and well kept!

The Greenway trail is a great walk any time.

By travelerbeach2016 |

A varied landscape and great easy way to see some indigenous seasonal nature, while you stroll the trail. Fit for children and handicapped as well.

Great place to talk a walk

By polir |

One of the best easy trails I have ever walked. Beautiful surroundings. I walk to the high school and back around (total of about 5 miles). Easy parking at on of several lots.

Yeah!

By Patrick S |

Scenic and flat! Nice trail in town next to the river for walking or riding any time of year. Best during summer.

Easy stroll, well designed

By Katie K |

We enjoyed a nice, leisurely stroll through this paved trail. We were able to see someone fly fishing, which was pretty cool, too.

Nice Day For A Walk!

By celainej1 |

After recovering from shoulder surgery I needed some exercise on good trails that don't bore you too much or take you through the center of town. I tried the Greenway Trail after seeing signs for it and for the time in my life where I want to walk even with a little shoulder pain it was the perfect fit. The trail is well maintained and leads you through some of the back portions of Boone with some forest areas, along some streams, and even butterfly gardens. I saw quite a few chipmunks and even a pretty doe crossing the path in front of me. Parking is easy and there are actually several different spots you can park in to start your walk. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to take walks without any strenuous climbing or hiking.

Amazing Trail system for all levels-Best thing in Boone NC!

By Linda D |

Came here for a turkey trot and ended up coming back to walk the beautiful trail. Did about 3.5 miles of the trail. Georgous and must do if visiting Boone, NC. Mostly flat but has some rollers. Has both dirt/gravel trail as well as road surface. Get views of mountains, rivers, and trussel and covered Bridges.

Leisurely Hike in the Middle of Boone

By Gregory B |

This walk is a great way to spend a few relaxing hours during a visit to Boone. It is frequented by the locals and you can find fit young App State students on it just about every day. Round trip from beginning to end it is 3.38 miles and takes you along the New River and past some of the university's athletic fields and lovely picnic grounds. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in a restful stroll past beautiful surroundings.

A peaceful walk....

By FlowerG1 |

Lovely place to take your pups for a walk. Peaceful, partially shaded, branches along the way. Great location!

Always good

By bsorge |

We love coming back to this trail every year. Good for seniors. Very picturesque.
Their are different combinations for the adventuresome.

good outdoor walk, jog, or bike ride

By GRC732 |

In all kinds of weather you can benefit by taking a walk, jog, or bike ride on the 3 plus mile paved trail that leads you woods, fields, and meadows.

Nature at its finest!

By Vacationer255970 |

Four miles of pristine nature! Very safe and quite beautiful! Hike, jog, bike or walk..and bring your pets!
Along the trail, admire the New River most every part of the trail!
Deer are abundant and I once found a fawn about 3 weeks old waiting patiently for his/her mother to return!
Lovely indigenous plants abound, providing color throughout the seasons and many lovely stones and quartz are along the river bank. Look for a variety of birds, depending on the season.

Awesome.

By Mindy W |

This is a charming walking/running path for you the kids and the dogs. I love all of this trail. It is easily acceptable at many points. You can do sections or the whole thing. The nature is beautiful and it is safe and well maintained.

Great stroll or jog

By larnole |

A beautiful, mostly flat, paved walking/jogging trail amongst the recreation fields of ASU and the surrounding mountains. Traverses the New River a couple of times. Very attractive, well-maintained walking route, popular amongst locals and visitors alike. You will enjoy!

Nice place for a walk

By Michael T |

Great place to take a walk. We walk are dog there a few times a week and most dog owners pick up their dogs poop. Make sure to take your own poop bags.

The dogs loved it

By Courtney M |

Great to run on and with both the dogs the hubby and I could not have picked a better location! It's under construction right now but there is still a lot of path and it's a really family and dog friendly area!

Blessed to have it

By 3lionsfan |

It's easy to take for granted what's right in your backyard. I hope the residents of Boone appreciate this trail. I walked a chunk of it with our dogs on a recent family vacation. Part of the beauty is the climate. We're from Tampa. A great place to walk, run or bike. I encountered everything from a little kid learning to ride s bike to members of the ASU CC (I think) team out for a run. A great addition to a great mountain town.

Easy short walk.

By LuannDP |

We came to the Parkway for hiking. The Greenway Trail was a pleasant start. Well marked, pet friendly, and clean.

It used to be awesome.

By Tcemom |

My family and I have used the Greenway trail for many, many years. We rode our bikes to the park, baseball practice and even town for pizza and ice cream. It used to be our favorite way to travel freely through Boone, however now it is over run with scary and questionable people. My kids and I were walking the trail one afternoon to go play in the river when a man tried to steal my bag, we have found mattresses, blankets and mountains of trash in the woods right off the trail as well as a dirty needle laying on the path. My family and I no longer use the Greenway because the locals refuse to stop the people from camping in the woods, panhandling and creating a safety hazard. Its very unfortunate.

It’s a walk not a hike

By Joanie |

Great place for a stroll if you enter near the athletic fields. Paved pathways were not what we wanted. It would be perfect for some, but not if you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous.

Excellent Walk along the South Fork of the New River

By USMC_walker |

The Boone Greenway provides a flat tar-paved trail along the New River's South Fork. Its main section is popular with families with children on bicycles, roller skaters, leisure walkers, and birdwatchers. Easy access and parking are available on ML King, Jr., St., Deerfield Rd., and Brookshire Park. Hikers and mountain bikers can add some hill work by connecting with the Appalachian State University Cross-Country trails and a side trail past the wetlands renovation east of Brookshire Park. The Greenway is very popular with dog walkers.

Greenway

By Da N |

Not an accessible place to park. Followed it about a mile and could not find a way onto the greenway.

Definitely a hidden gem. Recommend parking near the Watuga Recreation Center.
Long, endless paved trails…🙌

Beautiful trail near the center of Boone

By gaill203 |

Pretty scenery, nice trail that was clearly marked. You can take bikes or walk. We parked in the gravel lot near the playground.

nice little hike in town

By summercamper |

I had a couple of hours to kill and I found walking the trail to be an enjoyable way to spend a little time without having to leave the area. Would be a great place to bike, as well.

Just a brief visit

By stella b |

I had read about it, so on our first day in Boone we visited. I thought it was really nice. Our granddaughter who was with us was hungry, so we didn't explore too much. But would love to have such a spot in my hometown !

Walk, run or cycle through the country in middle of Boone

Good for walking and biking

By Bethcribb |

Very enjoyable and relaxing with a optional blue trail that is a good workout. Beautiful scenery and plants of places to park and benches for sitting.

great paved trail

By Geoff Z |

Great out and back trail with a fun covered bridge! We took the fishing poles and did not catch anything but had a great time! The kids took off their shoes and played in creek. We also had a nice picnic lunch there!

Great trail for all levels

By Debbie Aguilar |

This is a wonderfully trail. Not too difficult with mostly smooth path. Absolutely beautiful walks and jogs with lots of off shoots from the main path. And saw deer there every time I went.
Highly recommend for all fitness levels.

Pretty trail

By Penny H |

Very pretty trail, but we did expect the "river" to be bigger, it's more of a creek than a river! But another great thing about the trail is that it goes by the best playground I've ever seen. The playground is called the "Tot Lot" on the maps and looks to be in front of the National Guard complex. Fantastic, and fully fenced.

Hike in late afternoon October sun

By Sightsee_Eat |

Visiting nephew with his dad, we came here first evening for local hike. Parked next to ASU practice fields next to the asphalt Greenway Trail and went on the Don Kennedy trail up into the hills in the woods, loop about 45 minutes. Perfect start to our Boone mini vacation, followed by Walmart visit and late dinner at Chili’s.

If only every town were so lucky as to have a greenway trail!

By DailyMantra |

What a gorgeous and amazing plac to exercise and recreate. Great for rollerblading, biking, walking, running, dogs, kids, etc. easy access to play in the river, big fields surround, smooth pavement. Safe and fun!

wonderful, varied terrain. amazing hiking. lots to see. fun for kids.

By lynnmarie0123 |

We take our dogs here almost every day. there is a paved trail running throughout the whole park, except if you go off the main trail up into the woods or whatnot. the covered bridge is so beautiful. you can go off the main trail and walk down by the river for a little riverside cooling off. Dogs can play in the water and drink. bike riding on the paved trail is easy as it's all flat. the trails take you thru some pretty interesting and varied terrain. its quite extensive. there are picnic pavilions, benches, ball park, lots of grass for picnicking, a covered bridge, hammock swinging (bring your own), soccer fields, and a Tot Lot and a lot of pretty scenery. But this place is all flat, so its a great place for kids. There are some parts you can actually go up into the woods and find trails. DOG POOP must be picked up and i see a lot of people don't abide by the rule. So i do see alot of poo and this is the only thing i don't like. There are plenty of shady places too. Wonderful day activity! Bring a hammock and rope!

I have walked this area before there was even a trail here. Love it now.

By HelloItsMe213 |

Wonderful trail that is easy and mostly flat. Enjoy this scenic path in any number of ways, walking, running, biking, skating, scooter, etc. The trail is also pet friendly, must make sure Fido is on a lease.

Perfect Place for Hike or Run in Downtown Boone

By Patricia B |

I try to run once/week on the Greenway. It is a beautiful place to have a relatively easy 3-7 mile run and the trail is thronged with walkers. The Greenway has been improved over the years and is nearly all paved at this point except for some cute side trails. It is a great place to walk with people of all ages because you can take your time an sit when you need to. The old hydroelectric power ruin is still there with picnic tables around it. Boone has done an amazing job with this trail.

beautiful

By Maddy122355 |

Beautiful scenery. Great place to take dogs for long walk. Easy paths to follow. Would recommend for all levels on physical limitations.

Nice Trail

By missmollymae |

Its a well maintained trail that a lot of people use for walking, jogging, biking, and dog walking. i did go on a weekend but there were lots of people around and it seemed safe. Its a pretty trail and the area I was walking was relatively flat, paved, and not overly strenuous. There were picnic tables at the trail head and green spaces and benches along the trail that could be used for sitting. I parked off State Farm Road near the swim complex, they have an area for parking however there are several access points to the trail around Boone.

Great Place to Walk or Bike

By WBWT |

Boone is very lucky to have this green space for walking, running, biking and just "playing" in the big fields. If you are just visiting, it is a nice place for a stroll, but not scenic like a park or nature trail. I guess I would say it is more for exercise than for a picturesque view of Boone.

By lisavg |

Most of my visits to Boone are in the fall and winter so I've just recently discovered The Greenway Trail. Had my dog with me and we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 mile walk along the trail. Saw a covered bridge, scenic vistas, deer and lily pads. We'll definitely be back!

Looking forward to the completion

By Charles P |

We walked the Greenway for the first time today. It was somewhat confusing because we thought it was going to be 4+ miles. After getting to one map of the trail, we realized it is only partially completed.
It was refreshing though seeing so many families and small children enjoying the safety of the trail.
Side note-very depressing seeing trash/ beer cans etc in the creek. So disrespectful of our beautiful land!

Plenty of Room

By 92Tiger |

The Greenway Trail is a very easy walk with lots of room to walk together and enjoy family time. Of course, there are runners and bikers. You get to see a little bit of everything on the trail. A reminder that you really need bug repellent in the summer in Boone.

Stretch Your Legs

By rupprh |

A good three-mile walk along the South Fork of the New River. Entirely flat along the river valley with lovely views of the green hills. You will share the trails with prams, dogs, bikes, and runners, but you will not be cowed or crowded. Enter either off Deerfield Road or at Mayors Park. Picnic tables are available. The best bet after wet weather.

What's Done is Nice

By Jody S |

Don't expect the tail to continue as the map says. Don't bother finishing to the end because you wind up crossing traffic, riding on the shoulder of a busy road, and then it runs behind the narrow back of a strip mall with its garbage bins. It stops suddenly, then you turn around.

We enjoyed the gravel walking trail, too. We took chairs and read under nice shady trees. The grounds are beautiful. Only one jerk had a dog off leash.

Great trail near the water...

By fisher05 |

We walked the trail today... Pretty nature walk, pretty flowers, & it’s close to the water. Our family & our daughter’s dog enjoyed our walk there today.

Nice Walking Trail

By stevie3969 |

The Greenway Trail is a great place for a walk. It’s well traversed and you will encounter bicycles, people walking their dogs, and everyone from millennials to retirees. We met a nice couple from Canada walking the trail and enjoying the cool weather. We took a picnic lunch and stopped half way through our two hour walk. Highly recommended for anyone that enjoys the outdoors.

Flat walk or bike trail

By dylanc812 |

This trail is paved and flat. There's a bridge. It's good for children, adults, and the elderly. People walk and ride bikes.

Relaxing and Beautiful Trail

By Laura G |

I love this trail! It is great for biking, jogging or dog walking. Close to town, but far enough away that you can experience peace and quiet. I love to "rent" a dog from the animal shelter (free!) and take it for a quick walk on the greenway.

Great way to spend a couple hours

By Adventure_Advisor |

Except for having a surprisingly hard time finding the trailhead, we enjoyed the Greenway Trail. It's remarkably country like for the most part. Great way to spend time in Boone.

Great close getaway...

By Boone Native Expert |

If you want a flat easy workout walk next to a creek and green open fields then you’ll love The Green Way Trail. It’s free and easy to access.

Beautiful Park

Easily accessible and lots of great trails for a short or long walk. Lots of parking as well. I love this park!

Walking has never been so pleasant

By Michele B |

This is a wonderful trail for both easy and adventurous. Great walk for dogs as well as people! The trails are either dirt, gravel or pavement. It has both shade and sunny trails.

This is a wonderful wonderful trail!

By Pamela G |

You can do part of this trail or the whole thing. They are still making it longer & longer, they continue to connect it w/other pieces & parts. I think eventually it is supposed to go all the way from Boone to Blowing Rock.
People walk their dogs on this trail as well & it's really really pretty!!

Exploring the Boone greenway

By Barry H |

While pretty...coming from out of town..just impossible to properly navigate. Paths everywhere both paved and not.

cool walks on the greenway

By lynnakimmy |

We walked in the morning and afternoon and enjoyed both. Safe area and mostly level walking trail. Friendly people on the trail.

Hidden gem

By Shar0n_NC |

this was a lovely surprise. I did not know this existed in Boone. It was a little tricky to navigate, as there are a lot of paths going many ways. So maybe better signage? I am hoping it gets extended for those long runs!

nice surprise

By BernyB |

a few different entrances. the one right near the moose lodge is not very scenic. the entrance from state farm road and then turn by the fire station is a much better walk. this place has lots of trails and you can look up the trails on line. some are black top some are gravel. somr for bikes, some even for horses. i had a heard if dear run right out in front of me at one point! lots of people with dogs too. lots of trails with no steep inclines so anyone can walk it. highly recommended.

Nice trail

By RLG |

This was a great paved trail good for strollers, walking, running etc. We packed a lunch and ate at the picnic area. They also have very clean port o John's, not my favorite thing to use but they were the cleanest ones I have ever been in

What a fabulous place to relax and reconnect with nature. Keep your eyes open. We saw deer, a bald eagle, a green heron, butterflies, fish, and songbirds.

Trail for ya'll!

By Adah L |

The Greenway Trail is the perfect spot to walk, push the baby carriage, run, ride your bike, or walk hand in hand with your sweetie. The paved trail weaves through a park, sporting fields, a forest and beside the river. It's an easy 3 mile, one way paved trail. It is well used, safe and great for exercise any time of the year. Boone at its best!

All Boonies Love This Trail!

By Bethie D |

The University students and all the residents of Boone absolutely love this trail. It is dog-walking heaven! Great, easy parking, porta-potties galore in the parking lot, paved walkway wide enough for the runners to go by and dog walkers to cruise along, and folks just walking to have plenty of room. The walk is quite long if you want to go the whole way, all paved, with a little bit of dirt trail if you want it. The trail follows a tinkling river all the way and features a memorable covered wooden bridge where it's fun to stand in the breeze and look down into the crystal clear water at the sand, pebbles and little fish. There is very little shade on this walk, so bring a hat. If you don't like dogs, don't come here, because it's a dog a minute. If you love to see lots of breeds of dogs (all on leashes), you will be in heaven. Great experience!

Great spot in Boone

By klamborj |

The Greeway is a great door to run, walk, push the stroller on a flat, paved "trail." Some many location in the area are hilly-this is NOT one of them. Enjoy your time outside. Also fun for the kids is to play st the "Tot lot" playground near by.

Outdoor Exercise for the Whole Family!

By dalefuller310 |

The Greenway Trail is a fun outdoor walk for adults kids, and fur-kids. You can walk or jog, there are plenty of picnic tables, and the level path makes it usable to even the physically challenged.

Great asset for Boone

By Kathy S |

Was a lot more extensive than I thought it would be . Enjoyed the walk, but it would be great if there was more signage. Did not know where I was going or where I might end up a lot of the time .

Run, walk, play

By Phillip A |

Greenway is great for a flat run in Boone and a nice walk. If you have kids, there is also a great playground and of course the creek is always fun.

Walking the Greenway

By Igocrazy |

The covered bridge entrance is off State Farm Rd. on Dale St. across the ball field from the parking lot. We walked about 3 miles total down the path and back. It is mostly flat with a wide paved path. Very well maintained.

nice walk

By Kay D |

The only concern I have is walking close to the ball fields. I am always afraid of getting hit. Keep your dogs on a leash and beware there are people who don't..

Glad to find a Greenway in Boone!

By GwensGramma |

We like to take long walks and were very glad to find a greenway near our rental home. It is a pleasant place to walk.

Great place to walk/run!

By Derrick N |

This is a wonderful train in Boone to take a walk, jog or run! Not that I like running, but they maintain it very well and I wish I had a place like this where I live now!

Nice leisure trail

By hhislandman |

This is a nice trail that follows the river. However, trying to follow it was a bit difficult due to some construction.

Where the Locals Walk

By TrvlMor04 |

My husband, newborn, and I walked here for a few minutes today. Started on the end near the plant at about 11:30 am. It was nice to have a place to stretch our legs for a few minutes but we could not find enough shade to keep walking with our newborn. The trail was maintained. Lots of locals were out walking..

Excellent and scenic walking trail

By Carol R |

Whenever my friend and I come to Boone to shop, we always throw our tennis shoes in the car to be sure to make time to go to the Greenway Trail for either a short walk or a longer walk. It's a beautiful trail, paved, and can be as short or as long as you wish. Beautiful piece of nature, beside the river. Excellent get-away in the middle of Boone.

really pleasant place to exercise or just to be close to nature/God.

By Clifton C |

It was really wet on my visit, but still nice. One cannot help the rain. The trail is beautiful and well maintained. My only objection was the odor close to the treatment plant! No helping that either.

Perfect walk!

By MelRose619 |

Can't wait to do it again. So peaceful but there is plenty of space for everyone on the trail. it looks like you can do a different section each time.

Nice Trail where dogs and their families can enjoy the outdoors

By Abbi U |

Extremely enjoyable walk through the trail. There is a nice river for your pets to drink from and the trails are very clean and well maintained.

Wonderful walk...for anyone!!

By Stacy Z |

The Greenway is a wonderful place to enjoy some High Country fresh air and sunshine! Absolutely free, nice and flat, and a wonderful place for couples or families to enjoy. Also a great place to get in an early morning run before adventuring elsewhere in Boone or beyond.

A wonderful place to walk, jog, or bike.

By Bobby L |

Running along the south fork of the New River as it courses through Boone, the Greenway is a great way to spend a lunch hour or a lovely family afternoon. It's close, convenient, and flat! A definite must if in Boone for any length of time.

Wonderful walk. Nice paths

By Susan CB |

It was great to have a safe place for the grandkids to work off some energy on our vacation. Level paths. Beautiful stream with a covered bridge to walk across and lots of open green space.

Perfect for early morning walk with a dog!

By MGordonCharlotte_NC |

It was a holiday weekend (4th of July) and predicted to get pretty hot - even for the mountains.

I headed over to the Boone Greenway shortly after 8:00 a.m. with the (well behaved) pooch and the walk was delightful! A few joggers, a half dozen other walkers and two other dog owners exercising their dogs. The walkway is paved, flat and several areas area shaded (in early morning at least).

A real asset to the Boone Community - easy to find, ample parking and very quiet and scenic.

Nice Walk!

By janetrW7614FP |

It had been raining so we knew the trails would be very muddy so we walked The Greenway Trail. It was very nice - there were lots of people walking their dogs, young moms with strollers, etc. We enjoyed the picturesque bridges on the trail.

Love the trail

By Jeremy J |

I've been running, walking, and just lazin' about the Greenway trail for years now, and it always is a pleasure. About 4 miles from start to finish, it's a great way to just relax and enjoy nature and the occasional person that you might meet going and coming.

Great place for a power walk!

By baustin4705 |

While on vacation, my wife and I enjoyed taking a brisk walk through the greenway. We were only there about 30 minutes and could tell there were so many other trails to take. Was beautiful, quiet and flat (good for our walk!).

Nice place to run or riverwalk

By Matt W |

I spent the fall doing classwork at the App State Geology well field on the greenway, so I saw a lot of people enjoying the greenway. The South Fork New River runs through it so that is awesome and they are re doing the sports fields so they will drain better and be smoother. Can't beat it for flat spaces to run in Boone!

Sweet easily accessed walking trail in the center of town

By Elizabeth W |

This is a nice greenspot in the middle of Boone .. easily accessed. and some of it is paved for ease of walking. nice escape from the bustle of the college..

Try it

By Bill E |

Nice walking area, really like the covered bridge across the new River. Lots of walkers, always friendly and courteous, a safe and pretty place to walk.

Great place to exercise

By Emurf033 |

Jogging in the mountains is always a challenge, but the greenway is nice and flat for the most part with a few scenic woods trails as well. It is my favorite place to run in Boone because it's pretty and there is no traffic to contend with. Love it!

Beautiful trail and nice views everywhere

By cadreaminginfl |

The park was clean, plenty of parking and right near town! Flowers, bridges, meadows and trees all around such an enjoyable walk with our dog.

Its a trail and park. Safe place.

By Jeff S |

When finished, this will be a great Greenway. At present it's a nice park, a good place to come and walk, bring the kids on bikes, bring well behaved dogs. Safe, mostly clean (more folks need to pick up behind their dogs.) Picnic tables. Porto potties. Some permanent restrooms would be nice.

great place for a run

By jon s |

a super place to go for a walk or a run. winds through the countryside. is quiet, scenic, peaceful. is one of my favorite places to go for a run anywhere in the country

Get Out and Enjoy the Fresh Air

By itsbygrayce |

Easily accessible, and an easy walk. Watch for bicyclists and skateboarders. There's an area crossing the creek that is really nice. Just get out and walk and enjoy the fresh air. This could not be easier.

Nice walking trails - Needs signs.

By bmcalder |

Very nice walkway with plenty of ways to go on the trail, however, would suggest that you put up signs on where the trails actully lead to. We walked over 2 miles and ended up in a residential area which wouldn't have been bad had we been from there. We were from out of state and had no idea where we ended up. We do a lot of hiking and have noticed that more places really need direction for out of towners. The overall appearance of the trail was beautiful.

Bets Local Trails

By The Horton Hotel |

The Greenway Trail is a great spot for locals and visitors alike! There are a lot of trails to explore, and beautiful spots to enjoy.

Very Versatile Trail

By Terry W |

We have walked on the Greenway Trail on two different trips to Boone. It seems to go on for miles and is accessible from many different locations. It is a great place to walk, run, bike, walk your dog, etc. Boone has done a wonderful job of making outdoor activity accessible to its residents and visitors.

Very enjoyable trail - you can walk short or long distance

By fobrien |

My husband and I have walked this trail twice so far. My husband is unable to walk long distances, so we can walk together part of the way then he takes a shortcut back to the park. I can continue on as far as I like. It has shaded areas, a stream, easy walking path. Sometimes families with strollers and young children are on the path. Need to take water with you if you're going far.

Good place to walk, run or bike

By John |

Nice place to walk, run, bike or climb.. The only downside is you go past the Town of Boone sewer plant if you start at that end. But overall a great place to get outdoors.

Boone's foremost outdoor attraction

By ANNE B |

This trail extends throughout almost all of Boone, and is constantly being improved and expanded. It is a great place for hiking, running, biking, and walking dogs. There are many choices of routes, depending on how far you would like to hike, and whether you prefer level or hilly trails. The trail has recently been extended through Brookshire Park, where restrooms are available, and there are plans to extend further, to Todd. Most of the trails follow or allow frequent glimpses of the scenic New River. Deer sightings are a regular occurrence. There are many places to park and access the trail, and most have picnic facilities.

Nice walking trail

By Robin9916 |

Great place for a walk to get some of those vacation pounds off! It is obviously a big hit for the locals - lots of people out walking with their dogs, too. The trail is nicely paved and it is probably pretty once the trees start to bloom.

Close, but go further

By fava |

Completely flat town greenway. Nice for people in town. Feels relatively safe even when there aren't many people there (a nice Sunday afternoon for us). Boone is so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cone Manor. Why not walk there. I'd rather walk in downtown Boone or on ASU campus than on this greenway.

Nice walking & running trail

By Amy K |

Easy, mostly flat, trail in town for a nice walk or jog. Plenty of parking & pet friendly. I've mainly visited on weekdays so I'm not sure how busy it is on the weekends.

Great outdoor feature in Boone

By John M |

The trail is paved with some unpaved trails to venture off into the forest. It's perfect for a run, a walk, an easy bike ride or inline skating. Nearly four miles along side the New River with another mile or so if you cross busy highway 421.

Nice trail!

By Catherine H |

Nice trail, needs more signage. Never found the covered bridge which I was looking forward to! Mostly paved, well maintained and lovely wildflowers!

Easy walk in natures beauty.

By Linda D |

I love walking the Greenway Trail. I used to walk a trail through this area before there was even a trail there. I love how the trail winds along the river and through rolling hills and wild flowers.

The Great Outdoors!

By ebrandon |

My wife and I wanted to take an afternoon hike. However, she was nursing a muscles strain in one of her lower extremities. We asked the lady at the hotel front desk if there was some place close that was not too strenuous. She suggested the Greenway Trail. She said it had lots of flat trails and some with a little climb. We headed over to the Greenway Trail to give it a try. It was beautiful. We decided to stay on the flatter trails so as not to aggravate my wife's muscle strain. We spent a little over an hour exploring. We could have spent much more. The only negative is that we could not find any good trail markings to know exactly where we were going.

great trail

By Linda W |

This was a great trail from 16 years to 86 years old. Parts were not as scenic as they were in town and part of waste water management however man made marsh and trails were great for those desiring a large flat paved path.

easy access walking path

By MARKOLA111 |

this park is a fine asset to the town of Boone, You can walk or bike the path and make it a short or longer outing round trip depending on available time. There are a couple of historic sites along the way including one of the first municipal electrical generation facilities in the country. Natural forests and fields line the paved walk. no views to speak of.

Hike, walk, run, jog, bike ... it's up to you.

By Doc M |

Title says it all. Flat trails for all of the above; decent elevated options; doggo and family friendly. Only issue is parking on nice weekends when everybody in Boone seems to be out there.

Ah....mountains, pond, streams, and fields....

By MJStrider |

Love having a piece of nature you can stroll through without going out on a "hike". Very pretty area. Well maintained and pretty area to go for a walk.

An excellent place for a walk!

By Angela M |

This is a fantastic place for a walk, jog or run in Boone. There are several trails, so you can choose your length and level. The shorter loop across from the hospital is a popular option for those looking for a quick walk after work, and the longer loops are very popular on weekends. No matter which option(s) you choose, you can find a path to fit your needs.

Great place to walk in Boone and enjoy the scenery which is beautiful. Nice for a family walk in the nature or to get your daily exercise. I felt safe and would not be scared to walk alone. Wonderful place to get outside and enjoy the fresh mountain air!

A Hidden Resource in the MIddle of Boone

By statingthe0bvi0us |

Who knew there was a walking trail starting in the old K-Mart parking lot? Well you do now. That's the north end of about seven miles of trails that go everywhere from the middle of Boone, through winding mountain trails, to the water treatment plant on the south. There are a lot of entrances -- you just have to be on the lookout for them -- enabling you to walk as little as a mile or less up to 10 miles or more. Some trails are under construction so there are some detours along the way. Also some trails aren't too well marked, but there are a number of "you are here" maps along the way. Great place to spend a autumn afternoon with spectacular colors in season.

A great walking, running trail in town

By atsleon |

This is a very well-kept walking/running/biking trail in Boone. I agree with a prior review that signage to indicate where you are heading would be much appreciated. The trail itself is very nice, peaceful and accessible...and we saw deer!

Very pleasant...but plan your restroom visit beforehand!

By she23 |

My husband and I walked the rural part of the trail on a Sat morning. We arrived around 10:30 AM and began our walk at the end of the greenway near the wastewater treatment plant. (Yes, it's stinky, but only for a brief while.) There was a port-a-john at the trailhead, but there are no other restroom facilities until you get to Clawson-Burnley Park. We actually used the facilities at the swim complex across from the park, so this is an option as well. There were port-a-johns along the greenway as you approach the park, but why use those if you can go into the swim complex? The trail was fairly crowded on a Sat morning; perhaps it would be less so during the week. As others have noted, cyclists ride quite fast, so you have to watch out. This is not a loop trail, so you turn around and go back the way you came. I highly recommend the more rural part of the trail. It was very pleasant, with both sunny and shady areas, numerous benches and picnic tables.

Great trail for a easy bike ride

By ferg1518 |

My wife and I had a great time riding our bikes on this trail. It was fun and relaxing. The trail was easy and fellowed a creek with serval bridge crossing that were cool to cross. If your are looking for a nice easy bike ride this is place.

Love this trail particulary in wet weather

By davidinBR |

We are locals and regularly use this trail. Great for flat walking. My only complaint is that it is not long enough. Great for kids/strollers.

Beautiful and easily accessible trail

By Beth L |

This is my go to walking location on workdays or when I’m pushed for time. It’s beautiful and well cared for, there are many places to park and enter the trail and there’s miles of trail to keep it interesting. Highly recommend!

A great place for a run

By goannego |

This public outdoor space is really lovely. Centrally located, too. What a gem, it follows a river for a bit, takes you over bridges and past a stone dam ruin.

Amazing public park!

By Stormjib |

The city of Boone should be commended for maintaining such a beautiful park. Any city in America would surely be proud to have it! While walking the paths I watched as a group of young people waded out into the adjacent creek and began to pick up any litter they could see. There was really very little but they were scouring for any little bits they could find. Amazing!

A quiet escape

By Traveler |

In just a few short minutes, the greenway trail takes you through meandering trails through quiet areas, perfect for biking, jogging, or even just a casual stroll. It's a safe place to take children too!

Excellent

By GailCheryl |

A flat trail, with areas among the pine trees. There were a ton of birds to hear and see. Plants around the renewed ponds were blooming, and I will look for water birds next time. A Boone treasure!

little tricky during construction

By hieCville |

Pretty enough trail, very easy, if you can follow some twists.detours during some sort of constuction. Seems like an important project for the community, and very popular with joggers and bikers. Trail meanders along and across a river - broad and easy.

Killing time on the greenway

By Michelle W |

Took a stroll along the greenway. Beautiful terrain, easy flat walk. Great place to bring dogs and kids with a great playground nearby.

Perfect

By sandcmom |

This is a perfect place to ride bikes, run, or walk. There is no traffic, and it runs along the river. It's just peaceful and quiet. There's even benches ad picnic tables along the way if you want to stop and rest or have lunch.

Lovely nature trail

By Niki C |

The Greenway is a favorite among locals. It's a great place to walk or jog and enjoy the beautiful mountains. The paved trail is relatively flat so it's easier than hiking in the parkway.

Great Urban trial with sonic mountain stream

By yolijohns |

great walk with path ranging from paved to gravel very scenic passes the old Boone Hydro Powered Plant. Dogs are okay on leash and have opportunity to swim in the stream.Has a covered bridge spanning the stream, Porta pot bathrooms are available.

Pleasant hiking, conveniently located

By Steffenzei |

The Greenway Trail is very centrally located, so nice to not have to drive very far to reach it. There are ports-potties by the parking lot, which is very helpful. The trail is well-maintained and the scenery is fairly nice. No substitute for a real hike in the mountains, but a great alternative. Lots of runners, walkers, dog-walkers, and bicyclists.
