Fun way to see the city

By alvogel |

The high line was one of my “must do” things in New York. I walked the line to the Whitney museum and it was such a great experience and a good way to see the city.

Nice walk

By RI_Travel_Guy |

I highly recommend. Very well planned.

Very scenic. It’s easy walking and covers a lot of the west side. A great addition for nyc tourism.

Wonderful change of pace

By AlexFromTheUK |

NYC can be a busy place to be, so taking some time out to walk the high line was great. And unusually for New York, free!

Lovely way to spend half an hour seeing the city from a different perspective, and ending up at Chelsea Market.

Good walks

By Phil R |

Really good walkway. See nice views artwork on the walkway plenty of space, easy to get on and off the walkway,
Wall art works excellent
Well managed.

Lovely scenic walk above the streets and through the trees

By sipeki2018 |

A must do in Manhattan. Easy, breezy walk in the sunshine (hopefully). Enjoy the fresh air and an overview to world below.

Great Park

By kekenkel |

After a short walk from our hotel in Times Square we started our walk on the High Line near Hudson Yard. What a great respite in the busyness of the city. What a great use of an abandoned elevated railway. We enjoyed the nature (crocuses were beginning to bloom), the public art installations, and the views of the city. Not to be missed.

Walking on the heights of New York

By Sébastien M |

Walkway in the heart of New York very nice.
Another facet of the city for an exotic walk in the heart of Manhattan.

Recycling in the city.

By Álvaro T |

A very good bet on the city for the reuse of abandoned spaces. A spectacular beauty that helps you imagine what was and what is today, with vestiges of what was and reconstruction and transformation on this enormously long walkway.
It is an indisputable walk when visiting the city. Highly recommended.

Great walk to the Hudson river

By Corinne M |

If you're staying in midtown, I'd recommend that walk. You can do part of it or all of it as there are entrances throughout. As a converted railway track, it's a little green oasis amongst skyscrapers.

Great walk, great views

By I W |

We spent Tuesday morning walking along the high line, starting around 9.00. We took some photos of the Vessel (closed) then walked to the end. We took our time and it took about 45 mins to an hour. We then looked around the Little Island, Chelsea Market had a coffee and walked back, before getting lunch. The walk back was a lot busier on the way back. A great walk. Take your time.

Nice walk in the middle of NYC. Quiet and panoramic place.

By Ivan_recensioni_1996 |

Beautiful walk in the middle of NYC buildings overlooking the new Edge. Quiet and peaceful place with some panoramic views of the city. The only flaw: lacks the presence of some bars to be able to supply water.

An oasis in the busy city.

By Sally W |

This is a must see in NYC for me. This is an oasis in the busy city and gives a wonderful respite. We walked the whole length but there are plenty of places to get off and on.

Amazing transformation

By Eva T |

Before we travelled to US we did a bit research and this place took our attention. It's amazing how an unused railway track can be transformed in an attraction. The people who made decision were visionaries. We walked most of if. From the spot where is rail depot we had great view at the river and New Jersey, when we stood with back to the river we had view of Manhattan's skyscrapers. Walking further it was more and more green on the way, flowering plants etc. But what we appreciated mostly was that the original features are still there, fabulous. We love this place.

Nice walk, good walk

By Rosane Beatriz Z |

Next to the vessel, there are old railways that have become beautiful gardens, we loved the walk despite the cold wind of the winter. Get out of there and go eat at Chelsea Market

A lovely walk

By Sarny |

My husband and I were at nearby Chelsea Market and decided to walk along the High Line - we did it at dusk which was lovely - we only managed a section but enjoyed the walk. Check the website for reports on which lifts are open/closed although we walked up some stairs to the High Line with no problem.

Getting to know a different New York.

By DaniAlRo |

Excellent !. An unmissable visit. The route along the old train tracks allows you to appreciate a little-known aspect of NY, with interesting points of attraction. Ideal to explore a different NY.

Walking NYC

By Marc T |

We walked this elevated path from 30th Street to its end at Gansevoort Street. The walk was very pleasant, surrounded by lots of plants and trees and interesting views of the city. It meanders between commercial and residential buildings, offers lots of places to sit and people watch. Would recommend.

High Line a must

By CanuckAlberta |

What a cool place, a literal oasis in the middle of the city and much faster than walking at street level. About 1.5 miles end to end and it runs right through Chelsea Market as well. Who ever envisioned this was a genius and should not be missed if visiting NYC.

A great way to get from A to B.

By Deb & Jake |

This is perfect for a leisurely stroll going A to B - it's got plenty of things to look at and brings a welcome amount of greenery into the city.

Amazing!

By Charlotte B |

Whilst on a trip with my family we found we needed something to pass an evening. We found the High-Line which is a raised walk around New York City and its amazing architecture. Once a run-down railway, the high-line was converted and is now bustling with lots of people. As you gaze down at the city, you may notice some of the modern artwork lining the walk. There are also toilets and water fountains as well as lots of things to look out for. Definitely recommend!

Leisure Stroll in The City

By Amy D |

Fantastic place to walk! It’s a perfect way to get away from the typical big city and high traffic vibes. I love how the city turned this discontinued train tracks into this amazing walkable park. We’ve been here several times. The first time, we started at the Hudson Yard train station and ended at the vessel. The other time, we started at Chelsea Market area and walked all the way to the Vessel. Highly recommend! There is more to see and do inside the shopping mall at the Hudson Yard area. There is a train line to take you to or from the city.

Amazed in Chelsea

By porquesieva |

One of our favorite neighborhoods to live in one day, Chelsea, its park, its streets, its gastronomic market, its views, it crackles me, I would spend a whole day rediscovering this place, clean, safe, new, very worth it.

A unique perspective of the New York

By Walshy Travels 🇬🇧 |

Woke up with jet lag and was staying near Times Square which is close to the start of The High Line. It was a lovely early morning walk even if some of it was closed off for maintenance until the summer (I guess). We started in Hudson Yards and ended up in Chelsea and the Little Island which was a nice surprise. Highly recommend.

Every year again

By julian070886 |

No matter what season the High Line Park is always recommended. You can decide new things every time. Just great....

My favourite walk in New York

By Cassie H |

This is a great way to spend an hour. I love the street art and installations along the way. I miss when it wasn’t a massive tourist attraction but if you go in the middle of a weekday it’s not too bad

Regenerating suspended garden

By 𝐴𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑙𝑜 𝐷'𝐴𝑔𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑜 🇮🇹 |

The park is the result of the brilliant idea of transforming an old railway into a comfortable walk among vegetation, works of art, industrial archeology buildings and designer architectural structures. Thanks to this urban redevelopment work, what was an abandoned railway is now one of the chicest attractions in New York. The panoramic views that can be admired from the top of its route are also beautiful.

Great ride

By jerem |

Very nice path filled with greenery and beautifully maintained. The way through Chelsea Market. A good way to walk in a quiet place in the city center. Things to do during your stay!

A great walk

By Med |

The High line is an old elevated rail line turned into a great greenway connecting Chelsea with Hudson yard. It is park between buildings, where you can enjoy a walk or read a book, or just people gaze.

Good views and a peaceful walk.

By Rachel & Andy |

Visited: 10/07/2023

A unique use of old railway tracks in the city. You could still see where the lines were, as they have built the walkway around them, with benches, and flower beds to make the area a lovely space to walk around in and enjoy. Being on a slightly elevated and manicured view of New York gives a unique perspective and is lovely to wander, especially with the art work pieces dotted along the walk.

Beautiful walk

By carla m |

A nice walk overlooking New York. You can admire the vettel (currently under restoration unfortunately) and have a great view of the river houdson

Wonderful walk!!

By jkhunyor |

A beautiful garden walk and respite from the busy city. Great views of the architecture of New York City, old & new! Easy access to shops below.

Peaceful walk in the city

By PeepJC |

What a great use for a derelict railway line. Some of the art along the route is a bit odd but keeps the walk interesting. I walked from Hudson Yard to Chelsea market which was really nice. Maybe not enough shaded areas for me as the Sun was quite intense that day but the whole walk felt peaceful which is always great to have in the middle of a city.

Beautiful pedestrian layout

By Yves R |

Very nice pedestrian layout of more than 2 km that winds between new or old buildings. Some traces of the industrial past of the place (railways, factory chimney) neighbor with contemporary facilities. Views of the Sky Line, or the Hudson River. Very busy place despite the rainy weather on the day of our visit

Partly closed

By Danielle R |

Unfortunately there was parts of the high line closed for maintenance when we were in NY so we couldn’t walk the full length. What we could walk was enjoyable and nicer than walking the sidewalk.

Also has some of the nicest public restrooms, which are hard to come by.

A Peaceful Walk Above the City

By Jamie |

The High Line is one of those places that makes you fall a little more in love with New York. It’s this beautiful stretch of elevated park built on old train tracks, weaving above the streets with plants, art, and views that feel surprisingly calm for the middle of Manhattan.

You can walk for blocks, passing everything from murals to wildflowers to skyline views that change with every turn. There are benches tucked into quiet corners, and spots where you can look out over the Hudson perfect for just sitting and letting the city buzz beneath you.

It’s free, easy to access, and somehow manages to feel both urban and peaceful at the same time. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or live here, it’s one of those walks that always feels worth it.

Nice but not a must

By Sandra V |

Pleasant but not a must. Do it if you happen to be in the area or it’s not your first time in NYC and you’ve done all the other major attraction.

A walk

By IASYLI |

We were excited to see it after all the great recessions, but it’s just a redevelopment of the disused line with some vegetation and benches to sit on.Nothing Wow

A must visit

By Shane H |

A great way of seeing a different side of Manhattan. A bit of peace and tranquility amongst the skyscrapers and well worth doing

Very nice walk

By Patricia D |

What a nice walk! Get out of the ship and I went to Chelsea! The view is amazing and I was lucky to catch a beautiful day and with a pleasant temperature!

Overhyped. Too Many Tourists

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Sorry but I don't understand the hype of The High Line. If you are resident of the neighborhood, it is a wonderful transformation of a former elevated rail line into a nice urban greenspace. However, it seems to have become one of the most popular things to do for visitors to the city. As a result, it is now packed with tourists and the views are simply not that interesting. There are so many better walking options in the city.

Beautiful greenery in the middle of the city

By Jennifer S |

A wonderful use of old elevated train tracks turned into beautiful greenery in the middle of the city. So many different kinds of vegetation and lots of great art to see along the way. We walked about 2 miles of it from The Edge down to Chelsea Market.

A little underwhelming

By Farwriter |

Having heard so much about how wonderful the High Line is, I was keen to visit. Admittedly it was wintry and cold and most of the planting was still brown and dead, but even allowing for this, I was underwhelmed by the experience. Even on a rainy weekday it was busy, and understandably people are out for a stroll so they are dawdling along and stopping to take photos but it makes it frustrating to walk along. I didn't see anything I wanted to take a photo of - you get to see the backs of some fairly rundown buildings and the occasional view along a side street - which basically looks the same as all the other streets you've already seen, only from higher up. I was baffled by the banks of seating constructed over a busy road junction and the people sitting taking photos of the traffic! It takes about 25 minutes to walk the full length.

Very nice and recommended

By David |

Beautiful and clean. Recommended after 6 PM as there are less people. You’ll get a nice view of many tall buildings of NY.

Beautiful place

By Priscila Furtado de Mendonça Mendes |

Nice to walk. We went in March and it was quite cold, with a nice sunset to walk the High Line. She takes you to the Chelsea Market.

Beautiful and peaceful

By Tanya F |

This was so cool to stroll down. Beautiful spaces, amazing plantings, a lot of benches, and you can see the rails in different parts. This was a great low-energy activity at the end of the day for us.

Stroll along the High Line…….

By HolidaymakerfromHove |

We enjoyed our walk along the High Line from Hudson Yards to the Little Island where we left it. Lots to see along the way. Took approx 30 mins. Lots of gardeners working to keep it looking nice.

Lift access at various points.

Something a bit different. Free to enter. You may need to reserve in high season, double check.

Highly recommended for.

Example of how to transform an old disused structure, turning it into a useful and beautiful space for everyone.

By Gabby |

An old, obsolete and disused train path was transformed into an elevated, green pedestrian path, full of art, relaxing spaces, urban musicians and beautiful spaces. It measures 1.45 miles and is a linear park where the cityscape is beautiful, has orchards, has festivals, events. And this unites the community. It has several entrances along the park. One of them is in Hudson Yards. Beautiful!!

Nice walk

By Tom-Pauwels-BE |

Very pleasant walk to escape the crowds and see New York from above. Actually a must-do when you're in New York

Very NYC

By IraAllen |

Who would have thought that a great park can be 15m off the street and about as wide. Great place for a stroll. Wonderful Hudson views. NSFW views of people in their apartments (and also in the Standard Hotel).

Beautiful linear park!

By Karen |

I highly recommend visiting this different urban space that NY has, where the old subway lines were converted into a linear park: full of vegetation and surrounded by beautiful buildings by important architects such as Zaha Hadid and Gehry.
I started the tour at The Vessel and ended at Chelsea Market.

Green oasis in the middle of the city

By WeisserVolta |

An absolute must-see in New York and a successful break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The art and park installations are definitely worth seeing.

Lovely urban park and worth visiting near Greenwich Village

By IAl |

Fun and unique park and with tons of shade. You can also do your souvenir shopping on the cheap by the outdoor stalls beside the 57 Pier (that you can access and see from High Line park). There are also cafes and food stalls so you can easily grab a drink or food and be on your way. It is a different way to see NYC walking well above ground level. There’s tons of art to admire and also for purchase and also pop experiences too. The only thing is that it is crowded with people; so if you do not like crowds in your green spaces, you may not enjoy High Line.

Discovery of the High Line

By malycia6661 |

Very nice walk to do at his own pace, it is very nice. We went there on a Saturday, there were quite a few people and it was quite nice.
I went down to Chelsea Market for a meal that I ate quietly on the deckchairs available.

A nice walk

By Emma W |

We walked from Gansevoort to Hudson Yards early on a Sunday when the High Line was quite quiet and none of the vendors were open. The elevated platform gives you a different view of the area and there is a lot of interesting art along the trail.

We timed the end of our walk with a booking for the Edge observation deck. We then walked the High Line in reverse and had lunch at Chelsea Market. If the weather is good while you are in New York, the Highline is a nice walk.

A lovely chilled couple of hours.

By Sarah D |

A lovely tranquil afternoon spent walking the high line. Lots to see and many places for you to stop and sit down along the way. Just be carefully when looking around though, my friend lost her footing where the paving ended and the flower bed started and fell over into the bushes. The majority of the edging has a wired fence around it, she managed to find the one spot where it wasn’t!! Highly recommend.

Amazing free attraction

By timdudal1000 |

This is an excellent attraction. We loved the way some of the original features were kept e.g. stretches of rail track. The gardens were really lovely and well put together.

Under construction

By Rickced41 |

The High Line was under construction at Little Island. Then difficult to find open access. The small part made did not allow to form a real opinion on the place.

High Line to Chelsea Market

By monahayes |

Great practical way to get from point a to point b on the west side but a little hot and crowded on the day we walked it. Signage at various points didn't show the entire route, so we went in the wrong direction at first. Otherwise great way to get to Chelsea Market - and the lobster place!

A nice walk

By Karenusher |

I love what the state of NYC has done with this line, they really have transformed it from what it was like (history on the walls to show you what it once looked like, compared to now)
A nice walk, we were lucky enough to go on a warm day, it does get busy, so probs better to go early in the morning! Lots of food places near by that also get very busy!

You can walk the High Line in 30 mins- 45 mins, and we were not walking fast and stopped for the occassional photo.

Fun to explore

By Nicholas W |

The High Line is a unique gem in New York City that combines nature, art, and stunning views. The landscape is beautifully designed and fun to walk around.

Smart use of an old defunct space

By BernieDy |

We enjoyed our trip to the High Line very much. I was much impressed with NYC's ability to repurpose an abandoned rail and convert it into a tranquil and beautiful human space. It's a nice walk, not too short, not too long, and a good way to burn anywhere from ten minutes to an hour and a half, depending on what you want to do.

I would agree with the one con that other reviewers have noted, that during busy times it can get crowded, but that's true of any worthy attraction.

Other benefits:
- art exhibits along the way
- lots of little restaurants or small vendors offering drinks and snacks
- many photo-worthy spots
- lots of places to sit and get interesting views of the city or streets
- plenty of places to exit or enter
- volunteers to answer any questions
- bookended by other interesting parts of town like the Hudson Yards

Good job, NYC, this is a model for other cities to follow.

Interesting

By Daniel K |

The promenade isn't super pretty but whole project is very interesting it's showing needs from local people to be above all this dirt and rats which are common in NY. Must to walk from one side to other.

Lovely stroll on a nice day

By august01 |

Very lovely stroll, particularly on a lovely day. We walked the entire length of the line, and it gives a different view of the city from above. There are also some public toilets available.

Lovely

By hullarxim |

Very beautiful park to take a walk.Very stunning views.Add this in your bucket list if you are visiting New York.
We really enjoyed it.

A hidden gem

By Tytters |

A walk on the first floor in a few kilometers. It is interesting to walk on the abandoned railroad across New York’s streets between flowers and vegetation. You walk between the houses and some places can almost look into people's homes. Along the way there are strange art and benches with the opportunity to rest and dwell. At one point you get to Chelsea Market, a large indoor food market which is also worth a visit.

High Line

By martinepongo |

Super nice to walk on this old railway line transformed into a pedestrian path. It is embellish artistic works, and from some interesting points of view. Nice walk we started at the Edge Tower, Vassel and The Sed (not to be missed either!) I recommend

High line time

By Doctor Steve |

The high line was a great break from the norm and while I thought I could escape the hustle and bustle from NyC - it was as busy. I nice feature and if you have the time, worth a visit.

For a little peace

By Fabien M |

Nice to do (more on sunny days) because you get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the streets on this walk between the buildings with a little greenery

Lovely alternative option in NYC

By GarryLee316 |

This is such a cool and different option in NYC. We hadn't been to New York for 13 years, so this was new to us and having read the reviews were intrigued and it didn't disappoint.
So nice to walk around with streets to cross, looking at the views of some of the most chilled places in New York and lovely architecture and arts to boot.
You can drop out at different points, pop to see Chelsea market for example or some of the piers or even Little Island like we did.

A must see when you are in New York. Beautiful visit and it is free!

By msp122016 |

Amazing walk in a place I never been before in NyC. After 14 years of my last visit to New York, I saw new attractions that suprised me a lot, like this trail in the High Lane

Brilliant!

By Nicks J |

This is such a lovely thing to do! We went last week - didn’t walk the entire thing but we did walk most it. It was a lovely day which helped, and it was a truly beautiful, peaceful oasis. Really pleased that we did it; will definitely do it again!

Surprising change

By Parkerilla |

Quite a must do when in New York / Manhattan. The first part is a little rough but as one gets into the walk the flora adds to the attraction. Downtown NewYork itself proved to be surprisingly different to what we have previously encountered, The streets are now remarkably free of rubbish, clean, no homeless camps, no more groups of spives on street corners hassling pedestrians and importantly a sense of after pervades. Walking back to our hotel at 10:00 pm after a Broadway show presented no safety concerns.

Tranquil walk in the middle of New York

By Anders |

Really nice experience. It looks like it can be crowded because the paths are narrow, so we went relatively early and it was not too bad.
It was a tranquil walk in the middle of New York og lots of nice views and architecture.
Remember to atop and visit Little Island.

An unforgettable walk!

By Flávio Amorim |

The High Line, located in Manhattan, is a park with a route of just over 2 kilometers, where a former railway line was running! During the walk, you have the opportunity to go through artworks and gardens! It is a moment of mental relaxation and reflection! New York's indispensable tourist spot! It's worth the walk!

A great 1 hour stroll in NYC.

By Lorraine H |

I would highly recommend you taking a stroll down the high line. We did at sunet and it is very beautiful. Some views of the weater and beautiful greenery and flowers.

Stop! Don’t think of missing it!

By N B |

The High Line offers some of the best views of New York’s skyscrapers. In addition, it takes you into one of the most remarkable developments in NYC history - the Hudson Yards. The HighLine itself is landscaped beautifully and is easily accessed from many spots between West 29 St. And 13th St, by 10th Ave.

Elevated Park, Brilliant Idea

By Thomas V |

One of our favorite experiences in New York, taking a long walk on this elevated park that is a recycled elevated train line. Your walk will take you through important fun neighborhoods like Hudson Yards, the Meatpacking District, and Chelsea. This popular park has sparked a resurgence of this entire part of the west side. Great way to see buildings from another perspective. it is popular so you will encounter crowds.

Worth a visit and eat your take out lunch

By lbyrne99 |

Definitely try to see a part of this at least . Good views and nice spots to sit and eat your lunch along the way . Sit and enjoy people watching too

How to create a tourist Attraction

By marco69Grosseto |

The High Line is nothing more than an elevated path that retraces the old line of disused trines. Several trees and ornamental plants were planted along the way. From the high line you can admire beautiful views of NYC. Recommendation a mid-course dosta at Chelsea Market

Paradise in the Big Apple

By bkute65 |

Beautiful paradise is the Big Apple! I walked the whole way from the Hudson Yards to The Whitney Museum. It was a cold December day but still beautiful and peaceful. Even if you just walked part of it you would be refreshed. Wear your walking shoes for the whole thing. But it will be worth your time! 🚶🏼‍♀️‍➡️❤️

By Beveraldo |

Absolutely loved this. If you join at the Northern most point then it initially seems underwhelming but once you get round the second corner (after the train yard) and see the Vessel closer up (the big art installation you can climb, you will know what I mean when you see it), you will start to see more interesting views and a prettier walk. We didn't anticipate that we would need more time here, we only allowed about an hour but we could have easily done two to walk the whole thing. Does get busy with others. Would recommend as a must when visiting NY.

A wonderful walk along a former elevated railway line, surrounded by greenery and the stunning skyline of New York City.
Very well maintained and taken care of.
The view is breathtaking, especially toward Manhattan.
I walked the entire stretch, from The Edge to Greenwich, taking just under 40 minutes including several photo stops.

Most peaceful stroll in the city

By Mumm3 |

This is an essential place to visit for any tourist and also a nice place for a walk if you live in NYC. It’s very peaceful but also interesting to walk along a disused railroad track in the city. The fact that it’s free makes it even better.

A nice walk and a very interesting urban intervention

By Andrea |

It is a singular, successful and very popular urban renovation of the old site of the existing elevated tramway on the West Side, an intervention that is part of the gradual total renovation of the old port districts. The walk is about 2 km, and is very pleasant for the green interventions, for the rest areas, for the views of industrial archaeology and to touch the building transformation of the area.

BEAUTIFUL LINEAR PARK

By FIL M |

This was an unexpected treat whilst on holiday in New York. It is lovely to be amongst nature in the very heart of the city. The sculptures punctuate the plants, shrubs and flowers. They appear to be rotated regularly so this walk can be enjoyed again and again.

Small walk

By MagalyC91650 |

Small half-height walk, on an old railway track. Nice neighborhood. There are quite a few tag artists or others who are "exhibiting"

To always travel.

By ricardo |

I met High Line in 2014, newly opened, today with more development, has viewpoints, plants and trees have grown and the sector has been remodeled with new constructions, the change is amazing and has become a must in New York, it is a pleasure to tour its facilities and admire with the views of the river and the city, you have to tour it from Hudson Yard to Chelsea Market.

The High Line: Treasure of New York

By Mounir |

The High Line is definitely one of New York City's landmark attractions, a beautiful elevated walkway built on an old train track structure that was donated to the city by CSX in the early 2000s. After years of debate about what to do with the space, thanks to the efforts of Friends of the High Line and support from then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg, it was transformed into an incredible public park.
It's a great place to stroll peacefully, surrounded by art installations, thoughtful landscaping, and a wide variety of plants. You'll pass by famous architectural buildings, enjoy great views of the Hudson River and 9th Avenue traffic, and if you look out into the distance, you can even spot the Statue of Liberty.
What's really impressive is how carefully planned everything is. Every plant is placed with intention and chosen to bloom in different seasons, so no matter when you visit, there's always something blossoming.
That said, it's a very popular spot, especially on weekends and holidays, so it can get quite crowded with both locals and tourists. Sometimes it's even hard to walk without bumping into someone. Still, I'd say it's a must-visit if you're in Manhattan.

high line

By Zacari J |

wow this old metro line (railway?) transformed into a pedestrian street, which litters buildings, gardens... truly exceptional!
@ do it absolutely if you are passing through new tork!

Brilliant

By vikki559 |

A highlight of our trip to New York, peaceful, beautiful, interesting & great views of the river, city and art. Well worth making time for- a nice spot away from the hustle & bustle of the centre.

Cool walk

By Johnny C |

Surprisingly nice - especially because you can take it as a walking route from the Financial District to the Theater District (via Chelsea). You walk between the skyscrapers with history (the railway).

Pleasant Free Walk

By Ros T |

A great opportunity to take an elevated walk through part of NYC. Nice news of buildings, streets and artwork plus some interesting planting of trees etc. in the former railway tracks. It's free and it was busy when we were there.

Surprises on The High Line

By MGP S |

A great, low-cost, day in NYC includes The High Line!
- Start at the Financial Center, walk up the river.
- Go to the Whitney (it's not that big a museum), have refreshments on the roof deck.
- Go down and rest at the beach on the water at Gansevoort then explore Little Island.
- Go to the High Line.

From the Whitney you can walk up the High Line, as there's an entrance right by the museum, to Hudson Yards. It is an oasis of peace over NYC even with all the tourists. The number of languages you hear is incredible. There's a million spots to sit, people watch while feeling like you are in the midst of an oddly peaceful garden.

And the things you might find include art and performances.

For example, around 15th/16th streets, I ran upon a free 45m performance, "A Leaf's Pilgrimage," by Dominique Fung which was about the making of tea and took you on a short journey with performance and explanation. Was just super fun to be able to do that on a whim. While I waited for the performance to begin, I had a chili mango popsicle from La NewYorkina overlooking the Hudson.

(Oh - the performance is also free September 6 - tonight as of this posting - at 6pm and 7pm should you be reading this morning and thinking of fun quirky NYC things to do this evening. The High Line is also continuously close to many good restaurants).

After the performance, I also stopped to listen to someone playing an Erhu - I think at the High Line amphitheater, although he was up on the walkway.

Anyway, after that had to hustle home but was a relaxing sidetrack on the way there! Highly recommend The High Line! Total cost of my journey was low because I'm a member of the Whitney, but you'd probably end up spending $30 on museum tickets per person, $15 at their cafe for a drink and a snack, $10 for a popsicle or a gelato on The High Line and then whatever you spent for dinner (you could do tacos on The High Line as well). I had no issues with construction, wasn't blocked at any point.

You'll move faster at ground level

By TheFamGuy1 |

If you're not a local, some of the sites you're above may not be so exciting. Crowds are massive and you'l be like a bubble in water getting pushed along. This is more of a nice way to get through a neighborhood than be wowed by things to see.

Beautiful walkway

Up above the hustle & bustle of NYC, this offers the tranquility one does not expect in such a vibrant city. Well worth a wander.

Excellent walk - a must do in NYC

By lipschick |

Lovely walk, even better now the planting and trees have matured. We first walked the High Line in 2018 and it was great, but now it’s ‘grown’ in terms of the vegetation is is even better. There are lifts to help those with strollers / wheelchairs / less able / lazy legs, there are a couple of spots to get a coffee or water, and the views are superb. With the excellent (and posh) Hudson Yards development at one end and the heart of Chelsea Village (with more posh shops and eateries) at the other, it’s ace, it’s free and it’s a must do.

Hidden Gem

By Coondog99 |

What an amazing trail in the lower west side of NYC! Bordered by a variety of flora, one can walk for a few blocks on an old elevated railway bed transformed into a level walking trail. Entertainers, artists, and vendors are also stationed throughout supplementing the quiet environment with the city below.

Be forewarned, the access/ departing points are limited as are restroom facilities.

Well worth seeing

By Jokerman |

Walked the full length of this, with just a short amount closed for renovation. Walk took about an hour or so, with a couple of breaks along the way. It was great to see how a former rail line has been reimagined, with all sorts of vegetation and is now a real attraction in its own right, and of course, it was free. Far more relaxing than battling the pedestrian crossings.

To see

By claude508 |

A transformation of an old train line. Very vegetalisee ’ we feel good especially with the heat of this month of July. In the end you can visit the chelsea marketing that is worth the visit.

Fabulous. Go early in the day

By Odisco |

Absolutely worth the trip, what a lovely thing to have in the middle of the city. Pick an end to start, go early and you’ll have a peaceful stroll through. Can get very busy which is not so nice - we went on 4th July which was fine surprisingly. But go, it’s lovely.

Raised city park on old track

By Mirjam G |

We've seen a little bit of the park. It was barren. Nice view of the road and to The Edge which you can look through the glass.
The Chelsea market and pier 57 are also nice to visit while you're there.

The High Line

By Kimberly F |

My family was so excited to visit this attraction. I understood once we arrived! This should make everyone’s list of things to do in NYC! We spent several hours taking this all in. I am looking forward to visiting again!

Nice walk

By Graham |

Pleasant half hour walk elevated among the buildings of new York with trees and plants along the way making it an oasis among the busy new York streets.

High line is the high life

By ZenDark30 |

In a concrete jungle like NYC it’s always nice to see green and walk among plants and trees. Appreciated the new installations and seeing all the volunteers out weeding and tending to the garden. Always a treat to walk the high line.

Oh, the views you will see!

By disgustorama |

Don’t miss if you’re visiting NYC: this place is not only a park. It provides a unique outlook on the city from an elevated view. There are ever changing seasonal plants, artwork, food and different activities. The High Line was built on an elevated freight rail line which was destined for demolition. It’s truly a unique place. Visit Chelsea Market for delicious food when you go to the High Line.
Also: it’s free!

Well worth a visit

By sandydee_7 |

A lovely walk above the hustle and bustle of New York streets. We started at the Greenwich Village end and walked all the way up to Hudson Yards. Lots of places to sit and some great photo opportunities. Definitely worth a visit

Lovely flowers

By maccapakka |

Lots of lovely ideas but there were lots of people and also quite a distance from the subway ! Would have loved some more clear signage lovely flowers though !

Free fun!

By MichelePlusTwo |

Well worth walking - great views, lovely planting, and it’s free! I was particularly impressed by its accessibility and the fact that toilets and water fountains were provided at regular intervals.

Stunning landscape architecture in exceptional framework

By Familien BL |

This lovely walk in Piet Oudolf's green oasis is definitely worth an hour. Combine it with a visit to the Whitney Museum of American Art at one end and the view from The Edge at the other end - you have a good and varied day trip.

Recommend to read the history of the High Lines website before visiting.

We took a stopover from High Line to Little Island, which is worthwhile.

Nice relaxing atmosphere.

By Melissa T |

We loved this park/walking trail. The foliage is beautiful and it's a great way to see some of the city while not feeling like you are in the city. There are some spots that need some upkeep but this did not take away from the experience. We some some nice views and there were a lot of places to relax. Some might consider it boring, those people should go to the NY public library or grand central.

Park nestled among the skyscrapers of NY

Railway line transformed into a splendid suspended garden nestled between the skyscrapers of NY. Wonderful 🤩

discover the city from another angle

By globtrotteuse |

An interesting walk that allows you to discover the city from another angle, with works that fit into the decor.

Beautiful in the Evening

By Frances W |

Decided to take an evening trip by Subway from 42nd Street Time Square. A worthwhile visit, a very beautiful neighborhood that had a good vibe with families. Peaceful in the evening, very few people walking about the time of our visit end of May late evening after 8pm. Lots of fragrant plants in the evening and I always felt safe.

A different, peculiar park with a lot of art

By Jose Carlos G |

Of course, we can say that it is one of the most peculiar and different parks that we have ever seen, as it is located on the old train tracks that crossed a small part of the city by air. It is amazing, with countless different flowers and plants, with an exhibition of many interesting artistic works, with a very good atmosphere and views of the city from a different angle. One of the best places we visited in New York (visited from May 14 to 20, 2024). In addition, it has well-marked, well-kept and "very original" public bathrooms. We toured it all after our cruise around Manhattan with the Circle Line tour company. At noon there were more people walking through this curious park, but it was not overwhelming (I don't know what it will be like at another time of year at the same time). All in all, we loved it!

Not to be missed

By lag-free |

It's my favorite activity on my return to Manhattan. The redevelopment of the elevated mercantile railway line is very well done, the walk is very pleasant because there is greenery and spaces to rest, outdoor works of art that remain on display for a while and then change, unusual perspectives of Manhattan because, disused the railway and the warehouses it served, the area had been abandoned to decay.

The High Line, New York City

By Kelly H |

Meh. It’s a quirky stroll, sure, but don’t go rearranging your entire itinerary for it. If you're already in the area, it's a pleasant way to stretch your legs and pretend you're a sophisticated urbanite admiring art and architecture. Otherwise, you might find yourself wondering, ‘Did I just walk a mile for fancy plants and overpriced coffee?’ It’s fine, but not life-changing

Beautiful

By John B |

We've heard about The High Line quite a bit. So we decided to give it a try. Well worth it.

Keep in mind that this was never anything more than an unsightly and scummy abandoned elevated train line. Not any more. It is now beautiful.

Lots of people out and about. Some very clever use of existing materials and, voila, a really pleasant promenade.

We only walked a few hundred yards. So now it is at the top of our list for our next visit to NYC.

Stunning transformation

By RaleighFrench |

Our hotel was located a few blocks from the center of the High Line, so we walked south one day and north another day. We walked the entire trail and loved every bit of it. The plantings are magnificent and some of the art work spectacular. We also enjoyed seeing the adjoining buildings up close. Someone really had great vision when they transformed this rail line into a wonderful pedestrian space.

The High Line walkway

By SammieAr |

We went to Chelsea Market for lunch before walking up to The High Line walkway from 18th street (as 16th street was having some construction work at the time of our visit in August 2025), before finishing our walk in Hudson Yard. The High Line walkway was mostly shaded with trees and apartment buildings, with some benches along the way. It was a nice easy walk.

Flowers! Butterflies! Bees!

By Kitsaattheshore |

I have wanted to walk the High Line since I first heard about, it was everything I expected & more! Such a great idea to bring such a beautiful green space to the city! In some spots the trees fell over the walkway so it was almost like being in a forest! Plenty of benches to sit & relax & enjoy. We were there when there was some construction, so we didn't get to access the elevators. But the stairs were still manageable for me. There were a few vendors, so pick me ups were readily available.
We did see some dogs, and as I understand it, they aren't permitted so perhaps they need someone to oversee that.
Enjoyed the artwork and LOVED the pigeon! If you are in the area, or even if you aren't the High Line is a lovely way to spend an hour or two.

Elevated Park on old RR Line

By Thomas V |

This is one of the best places in Manhattan, and it is really something new. It is a reclaimed elevated train line that had been abandoned for decoades, and then converted into a linear park. Fun to walk and see the changing neighborhoods and fancy new buildings, plus some old ones. Some good landscaping along the way. You can step off and explore some great neighborhoods down on the street level.

Stroll on the railway line

By Boschie |

An elevated railway line turned urban park, the High Line offers an easy and scenic walk of just over 2 km with beautiful views of the city.

It can get a little congested, but early morning or late afternoon is the perfect time for a relaxing stroll. There are multiple access points, so you can hop on or off to explore the surrounding neighborhoods.

Chelsea Market is one such stop, and The Vessel is another nearby highlight. A small detour also takes you to the quirky Dinosaur – the Big Pigeon.

Along the route, you’ll see beautiful statues, murals, and gardens—a perfect blend of nature, art, and city life. Make some time and enjoy the walk!

Resting point in the city

By Mark Verhoeckx |

A beautiful walk through the buildings culminating in Chelsea Market. The route contains beautiful nature and plants, but can be very busy on Saturdays.

Viewpoint in more ways than one…

By Robyn Deverett |

Not gonna lie…it’s super creepy that you can look into an Equinox and watch people do a pilates class. I was not actively looking for this, the gym is literally on the same level, and at night it feels very creepy.

But then, if you continue walking down the high line at night, you learn that this might be the New York vibe. There are a number of condos that you can see into, and the blinds don’t help.

I guess you trade location for privacy? OR maybe people are into voyeurism…no judgement merely an observational assessment.

Beautiful!

By dands238 |

Enjoyed a morning walk all on the high line. It was quite busy mid-morning on a Friday, but that didn’t take away from the beauty of it. You are definitely shielded from the noise of the city a bit and it’s like a little oasis. There were so many different plants and it’s obvious the gardens are well cared-for. Wonderful art and plenty of benches along the way. Highly recommend!

The High Life

By Management |

My wife and I did the entire path and it was break taking. Lots of nice view points along the route. Recommend to bring a hat, shades and water bottle since it can get warm in Mat. Great to do with family and friends.

When nature takes its place

By Ludovicouest |

The High Line, formerly an aerial railway converted into an urban park, is a unique promenade in New York.
A true green lung in the city, this hanging garden offers a combination of nature, art and design, while crossing neighborhoods.
An unmissable visit for a different perspective on the city.

Abandoned railway line as a walking course

By norinori-san |

It's a great course for a walk. I had some free time from work, but I didn't have any particular destination in mind, so I walked along the High Line.

Great opportunity to explore Manhatten elevated.

By Marina-Thorsten C |

The Highline offers a different view and the opportunity to explore part of Manhatten on foot. You get past many expensive apartments..

Walking high

By Mélani |

When we went there, part of it was under construction.

Otherwise it's a nice walk to do in the heights.

It is nice and well maintained.

One of the best, free activities in NYC

By DAROHATH |

We loved the High Line. It was a wet day in the city, but still such lovely urban walk, a wonderful transformation. In fact, it was probably better as there were very few people around! The sculptures/ art works along the way are really interesting, but just the architecture and the different view of the city is worth the effort alone. For us, starting at the northern end was perfect and we finished the afternoon in the Chelsea Markets, escaping the rain and eating some good food.

Nice.

By Sergio_G_G49 |

A nice place, we toured it from the Vessel to Chelsea and its views are very nice, besides that children can interact with some activities on the tour.

New perspective on the city

By Globe-Trotteuse_3 |

This was my first visit to walking the High Line. Gorgeous!!! A beautiful space with greenery, urban arts, architecture... plenty to see. The redevelopment of the rails into an urban path gives a completely different perspective on the city.
Can't wait to go back!

A Unique Walk Through the City, Especially at Night

By Our Own Path - Kassie and Rick |

The High Line is one of those New York experiences that always feels special, even if you have done it before. We try to do it weekly and loved taking our visiting teenage nieces for a walk there. Walking above the streets, moving through pockets of greenery, and seeing the city from a different angle never gets old.

We especially love it in the evening when it feels calmer and the city lights start to come on. It is an easy walk to fit into a busy day and works well whether you are strolling the full length or just hopping on for a short section.

A great way to experience New York at a slower pace and from a unique perspective.

Enjoyable Walkway

By danielgraham1989 |

An enjoyable walkway with great views of the city. Clean and well kept and easy to find. Made for an enjoyable early evening stroll when we first arrived into NYC.

Elevated

By lilybt |

It is an urban park and greenway formed on the site of an elevated railroad that traverses the West Side of Manhattan. It is a shortcut from Hudson Yards to Chelsea, and the surrounding buildings are designed to look as if they are also visible from the park.

Fabulous and Enjoyable Walking Path

By IBrown |

While visiting New York City we did a lot of walking. We walked to the Vessel and the Edge Building that were in the Chelsea Piers District. We had read about the High Line, an old train line no longer in use turned into a beautiful walking trail. The rail runs between condo buildings, office buildings and some famous cross streets. You get some excellent views since the path is raised above street level. Along the way there a gardens and lots of sculptures and artwork. The walk started just past the Vessel and ended at Chelsea Market. It probably took us half an hour to walk, but the views along the way were amazing.

Great Walk. Lovely Art. Peaceful.

By Vanessa |

What an amazing place. We found the highline as we wandered through Chelsea (worth a visit) and there are stairs up to the line at various points. It's free! It's around 1.5km in length and takes you through the skyscrapers and apartments quite high up. There are a few art installations, benches, great view points and more to see.
We walked probably half of it and got off to visit Chelsea Market (which is a must!)
It probably took an hour to walk the bit that we did and it was quiet which was a bonus.
Definitely worth a visit.

In the Meatpacking District

By angela0809 |

Built on a former disused railway line, the park offers a truly enjoyable walk along its 2.3 km route. The whole area has been restored admirably and has become one of the main attractions of the city. Don't miss it at sunset, it will stay in your mind for a long time.

Disappointing

By Larry D |

Not sure what the fuss is about, dull dead vegetation, massive crowds, boring views. Mildly better than walking on the pavement

Best in Manhattan walks!

By Adriano |

Nobody had told me how beautiful this road is, I found it by chance when I was going for the Edge!! I fell in love with the large number of landscapes, photos and postcards I took here, without a doubt, if you go to visit the big block, you have to do it!

Love the High Line!

By FLHarlock |

Spent a couple of hours here walking The High Line and people watching while my wife was in a business meeting. This place is amazing! I am fascinated by trains and this is an old train line. I love that they left some train paraphernalia and added lots of green space. A plethora of seating available as well. What a great concept. I hope other cities follow the lead and redevelop spaces like this. Highly recommended!

Fantastic new attraction

By TeWe |

Fantastic new place to visit in New York. What used to be a railroad track is now a beautiful walking path right in the center of the city. Definitely worth a visit and it's completely free.

Fine views and exercise around Chelsea

By NealDA |

Come down to Hudson Yards on a late summer day to hike. About a quarter way down the trail it became more congested than I would have preferred, but traffic was likely higher than average due to holiday weekend timing and not-too-hot weather. At the north end of the trail there is little shade, so I could see how it could be uncomfortable to have sun beating down on an average or hot sunny summer day. It is handy to come down off the trail into Chelsea market or Chelsea itself to have some pizza and drinks - it seems like many good pizza shops are concentrated near the south end of the trail. Although the buildings are nowhere near as iconic as in midtown, there are a number of interesting architectural finds in view. Art installations come into view every 5-10 minutes.

Great walk in the green and between canyons

By e.menderez |

For a walk (just in the evening) great. We started at the height of the Little Islands and then walked the highline to the end until you stand between the impressive canyons. All nicely green with lots of seating. Only recommended

A Unique Elevated City Park in New York City

By Jim |

The High Line is an elevated railway turned public park provides a fantastic stroll through the Manhattan’s West side. The line starts around the Whitney Museum of American Art, and ends new Hudson Yards. During our visit, part of the High Line is in maintenance, and you have to get of and get on to cross the maintenance section.
The stroll is relaxing, and there are ample rest places during the walk. It is an excellent public park to enjoy the New York city.

Walk in the city center

By Sylvie H |

A little out of time, it's quiet, green, you can take your time, sit, eat ice cream or have a drink. To do when leaving Chelsea market or going there.

A great use of space and a pleasant walk

By Rachel Salter |

Great way to get from A-B in this area. A unique and clever use of space. The walk goes far quicker than you’d expect because you have so much to take in along the way with various art installations and observation decks. Much more pleasant than walking the busy streets below.

Free and fun

By Alireza123 |

My wife and I traveled to NY for second time and searching for something which is a layer deeper than times square and freedom statue.
We planed to walking in the high line and end it up in Chelsea market exit and had dinner there.Very good combination highly recommended.
We liked it very much. Nice walk things to read or observe. Free and pleasant. One of advantage of high line is passing NY street without red light.

High Line = Highlight of NYC

By soinic |

An old railway track was transformed in a beautiful chill walk with plenty of plants, trees, flowers 🌳🌲🌼🌺🌾🌿🌸🌹🌻🌷

Special place to enjoy! WOW!

Great activity!! HIGH LIGHT!

It reminds me of the similar/beautiful "coulée verte/promenade plantée" in Paris 🤩

Don't miss the High Line!!! FYI it's a free activity 😉

Very special park

By Andreas_aus_B |

What has been created here is absolutely worth seeing. Lots of green surroundings and always interesting views. Opposite is the Chelsea Market at one end. It shouldn't be missed on a visit to New York and is now one of the most popular attractions.

Nice Urban Greenspace but Very Crowded with Tourists

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Former elevated train line that has been converted into a great urban greenspace. This can be an enjoyable stroll, but it has become a popular experience for visitors to the city and I find it overly crowded with tourists and simply not worth the hype. Maybe early morning before the crowds build would be a different experience.

fun moment of rest in busy NY

By Christophe D |

Nice walk through the less busy part of New York, The opportunity to step off the highline here and there to see other things. Nice refreshing walk in the hot summer between the cooler greenery and beautiful buildings

A refreshing break from the sidewalk

By Jill Alford |

I took this walk with my 76 yo mother and 15 yo daughter. It was lovely. There are plenty of places to sit and rest if needed. It was nice to get out of the sidewalk traffic. We started around 9:30am at the Hudson Shops, stopped and had lunch at Chelsea Market and walked back. We took our time and really enjoyed it.

Nice but.....

By Nikolaj S |

It was nice and built very beautiful. But when we went there was way too many people. It was like walking in a mall during Christmastime ;) If possible go early or find another walk.

Lovely!

By Karin |

Park about 2.5 km long that is built on an old elevated freight railway. Birds chirping, always a different image of the city and beautiful planting (designed by Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf). Lovely! Definitely worth it.

There Are So Many Better Things to Do in New York City

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

There are so many better things to do in NYC. Without doubt, it is a wonderful transformation of a former industrial space into a nice urban greenspace. There is some interesting public artwork on display. It is a terrific asset if you are a resident of these neighborhoods and it certainly can make for a good stroll if you are headed to Chelsea Market, Hudson Yards, or the West Village. However, it seems to have become one of the most popular things to do for visitors to the city. I don't get it. It's good but not that great. As a result, it is now usually overcrowded with tourists and the views are simply not that interesting.

Nice but many people

By Lisbeth K |

Good idea with this "park". There are just an incredible number of people, you walk in a dense snake, but an ok walk - especially if you are going in that direction anyway.

Garden in the city

By Eleanor K |

Lovely view of the Hudson River and greenery in the midst of the city.
Would definitely visit again and spend more time walking the whole stretch of the park in both directions.

High times at the High Line

Maki was a great and interesting guide. He pointed out things that we would normally have just walked past. The High Line is somewhere we would definitely return to.

Great park, too many people

By Helmut |

I love this park, I just don't love the people. Hate me, but I wish they would hand out tickets with slots to be able to enjoy the peaceful space with wonderful greenery and amazing architecture and art in the area.

quiet and peaceful place in the middle of the city.

By JFBGC |

a small quiet and peaceful place in the middle of the city. very nice with beautiful views. we can just do part of the journey

Beautiful.

By Kicco66 |

It's a linear park in New York City and stretches 1.33 kilometers along the disused West Side Line elevated railroad. It is one of the most beautiful walks in the city. The path winds through the skyscrapers although along its sides there is greenery. Truly an original attraction and that has redeveloped the territory.

Pleasant walk to the city center

By Sylvie R |

We walked about half of the High Line because when we were there it was freezing cold and blowing very hard. It is a pleasant, slightly uphill walk. There are benches, vegetation.

Excellent Transformation!

By Brenna |

The High Line is a disused railway that has been very cleverly transformed into a greenway connecting Chelsea to Hudson Yards. It is a great idea and will look fantastic during the summer months once all of the shrubs and plants are in full bloom. There are plenty of exit/entry points along the route if you wish to leave at any point, and there is an entry point to Chelsea Markets from the walkway itself. They have completed excellent work on transforming this railway including viewpoints over the busy city roads, plenty of art/architecture and spaces to sit and read or people gaze. Nice stroll, but, while it was designed as an urban escape from busy city life it is clear once you are on the walk that it has quickly become a tourist attraction and there were parts of the walk that were quite busy.

An enjoyable walk

By TAP647 |

A really enjoyable walk. A great way to experience the city. Enjoyed walking from Hudson Yards to Chelsea Market. Lots to see and enjoy along the way. Highly recommend

Lovely walk but too much crowd

By nyuszikajesper |

The idea and implementation are good. Many benches, access to toilets, "natural" green. Nice not to see cars and buses even if you are in the middle of the city.
A lot of people and not all are good at taking care of the others.

Unique Urban Park Experience

By Inesares S |

The high line is a must visit when in New York City! This elevated park offers a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle with beautiful gardens, art installations, and stunning views of the city skyline.

The High Line!!!

By busconi |

We had a beautiful day, mid 70's, sunshine, a little breeze...perfect weather for walking the High Line. Once a busy elevated rail line, now a walking park high above the streets below. As you walk you are treated to views of the Hudson, the Empire State Building and loads of art. This is a real "people park", an green oasis in a city of steel and asphalt, an area to excape, to relax. We walked the entire length of the High Line, but there are numerous spots to get on and off. Really enjoyed viewing the artwork. A must do when coming to the Big Apple!!!

A green way out

By Chris Martin |

We’ve seen this neighborhood change as we’ve been in NYC. From chelsea.market to the wessel these beautifully rehabilitated old railway tracks are a haven of peace lined with magnificent buildings. The walk .tree itself very nice with nice views of the empire state building of the benches here and there invite to rest. Too bad that the work no longer allows us to go around the 34th as we did a few years ago. To advise.

A beautiful elevated walk through Chelsea and Hudson Yards!

By 907blaked |

I had never heard of this before checking out the Top Things to Do in New York, and boy was I glad I stumbled across the High Line. It is an elevated walkway through Chelsea and Hudson Yards, using an old train line. It was packed with pedestrians when we went (about 10am on Labor Day Monday), but we enjoyed the walk nonetheless. A beautiful way to walk through the city without dealing with crosswalks and vehicle traffic! We started at the Hudson Yards entrance and walked south to the Chelsea Market.

Different type of park

By tinylass |

We walked the whole length and could see how it has changed in the last 13 years since we first visited. It was busier but there was plenty of rest areas and some great artwork to see along the way. You can get on and off at different points and it is also wheelchair accessible from some parts. Nice to see the city from above and good views across the river.

Tranquility In The World's Busiest Place

By Velox |

We walked the High Line and took a whole afternoon to soak up the city centre tranquility and green-ness. Elevated above the traffic and at eye-level with residents' window-boxes, balcony gardens make the High Line a fascinating and almost surreal experience. The setting instills a sense of calm and quiet with most if not all people speaking quietly and calmly as if in a holy place. If you're up for a relaxing walk and want to take the pace off your time in NYC , the High Line is to be recommended.

Pleasant walk on the old railway tracks

By Régis1972 |

The High Line is a 2.3 km walk that connects the Meatpacking District to Chelsea following the route of an old elevated railway. It is one of the pleasant places in New York to take a walk around some buildings. This line was created in 1934 to connect 34th Street to St John’s Park Terminal at Spring Street. After abandoning the use of this line in 1980, a collective launched the idea of rehabilitating the space to open it to the public. The process was lengthy but work began in April 2006. Three years later, in 2009, the first section opened to the public from Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street.
We can now travel 22 blocks. Nice.
We will discover frescoes, greenery but also some buildings with contemporary and modern architecture.

Great views and walk

By paulac32 |

Definitely worth a visit. You can join near Hudson Yards and walk the full length. Plants and flowers look great as it's summer. It does get busy when the weather is good and at weekends. It's free and bathrooms and snacks are available at 16th street.

Urban Oasis with Stunning Views

By Cheryl P |

The High Line is a fantastic urban park that offers a unique perspective of New York City. Walking along the elevated path, you’re surrounded by greenery, art installations, and beautiful views of the city skyline and the Hudson River. It’s a peaceful retreat from the busy streets below, perfect for a leisurely stroll. The blend of nature and urban architecture is truly special. It can get crowded, especially on weekends, but it’s well worth the visit. A must-see when in NYC!

Walking with a views and surprises

If your looking for a free activity in NYC that takes you around several areas as well as seeing some great views and art installations this is the walk for you.

We walked the entire high line and it was a great experience and loved seeing all the various pieces or art and installations along the way.

Completely FREE, Beautiful walk on a sunny spring day. Creating and maintaining this beautiful walk is a real tribute to some of the best in NYC. We spent about 90 minutes, walking from one end to the next. Trees and flowers were just starting to blossom.ulput

Lots of art -some sculptures , some mosaics, some murals - Vast array of art

It can get crowded, so you have to be patient. There are plenty of places to stop and sit for a while.
Strongly recommended

A beautiful lush garden path within Manhattan.

By NiniBug |

One of the nicest strolls in NYC. We walked the Hi-Line after supper to see the sunset.
The design and plantings are well thought out. I wish more cities had the foresight to plan such a beautiful garden path for their citizens.

The High Line

By Passenger-Daz |

A brief visit along the High Line. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by this lovely meandering walk above the streets of Manhattan. Starting at Hudsons Yard and slipping through the high rises, one walks along a countryside setting with trees and vegetation. The blossom was on the trees and the spring bulbs were in flower, in places it felt a woodland walk. It was very busy with tourists and the whistle stop tour of NY, but to appreciate the serenity you really need to stop and take in the freedom of the countryside encompassed by the city. I certainly will walk along the trail again.

Nice city walk

By OlJe74 |

Great way to explore western Manhattan on a leisurely walk. In between there is always art and sometimes live music.

Beautiful walk which allows you to walk alongside buildings while being close to vegetation. I recommend stopping at the Chelsea market!

That's great!

By bnckf |

What a surprise!
It's a spectacular conversion, a fantastic project.
Bringing back to life a green path through skyscrapers with an avenue full of trees and flowers, is a beautiful idea to copy in all cities.

Green NYC

By Bennettbrian |

A very pleasant elevated walk on the West Side of New York City.
1.5 miles of disused aerial railway converted into an urban green space above the streets of New York’s West Side.
We walked from 30th Street to the Whitney Museum taking in Little Island on the way and found the walk very enjoyable.
The scenic views, trees, plants and flowers are fantastic. There also various art pieces along the walk too. There seated areas along the way, also a few places where you get a soft drink, or pick up a cheap souvenir.
Definitely a relaxing, calm attraction that would be a shame to miss while in New York City, something quite different from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

To do and redo

By mikerusco |

To do and redo... suggestive walk... a piece of New York seen from above. Get off every now and then and go back up to continue along the streets to the west

Great walk with unique views of the city

By Jorge F |

Great place for an outdoor walk, even in winter. Different scenes and locations to record. The kids love

Very nice walk

By Dan |

Great walk from Gansevoort Street to Hudson Yards. The first part of the High Line was nice and quiet, it gets more busy along the way.

I would recommend to dice a little bit in the history of the elevated park/walkway. Also very cool to still see some of the train tracks - and eve points - still present in the park.

Good views avoiding the busy streets

By RIchard035 |

The High Line was an elevated railway line which has now been converted into a walkway/park area. You can walk from the Hudson Yards are to the Meat Packing District, get some great views and avoid all of the busy roads. There are plenty of places to sit along the way , with some areas where food and toilet facilities are available. There are a number of spots where you can enter or leave the High Line along the way. It is very popular and can get busy at times.

Absolute high light

By Michael B |

Absolute must-see on a New York visit. We started at 34 West. The former freight line offers fantastic views over the Hudson, through the Chelsea neighbourhood to the Meatpacking District at the Withney Museum. Architecturally, the High Line is very attractive, with many plants and benches to linger on.

Amazing elevated walking path

By Nicholas T |

Walked the Highline in New York today. It’s a disused elevated rail line that was going to be demolished however it was transformed into a linear park and is now a wonderful urban green park about 2.5kms long in an otherwise concrete jungle. Definitely a must do in New York.

Green oasis!

By MygganofSweden |

Fantastic oasis! Beautiful, peaceful and green. You would rather just have this for yourself:)
Don’t miss the art of Labba at the end, a beautiful Scandinavian mini forest envelops you. Unfortunately half the distance was renovated when we were there but am still overwhelmed by the visit. Go there before 10 in the morning for some alone time.

Fabulous city walk way

By Paul O |

We walked the High line from Little Island up to Hudson Yards. This is a fabulous walkway / greenway and a great use of an old freight line. The walk is not long but we found ourselves constantly stopping to admire the views. The seating steps infront of the glass window that overlooks the road and traffic below is particularly cool.

A great way to spend an hour or so especially if the weather is nice. There are lots of seats along the way to rest or simply relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Be sure to do !!! Worth it absolutely !!

By Norbi St. |

Absolutely Mega !!! An above-ground park on an old disused freight railway line !! Be sure to experience .
2.2 km long and totally relaxing!!👍👍👍👍👍

Beautiful place to absolutely visit when you are in New York!
Full of things to see and some great places for brunch too

A green gem

By CWB |

A great little city trail in the Chelsea area of town. Calm and peaceful in the morning... but way too busy around lunch and midpm.

Something different than already seen

By mour |

Nice walk over the highway line and explore the history of transportation in previous centuries. Nice view either on the skyscrapers or the river. Good for relaxing

Unmissable

By Patricio E |

NYC has highly rated typical attractions but I think this ride is the best of all, without a doubt. It’s worth touring in its entirety and going down and up, for example to Chelsea Market. A city must-see who never sleeps.

Walk and View

By sainbasha |

The High Line is an elevated walk way that starts at the meat packing district of New York, Manhattan. You walk across various buildings, Chelsea food market, sculptures, city views and above all greenery on the walkway. It is a lovely place to walk and see the sights of New York.

We started at 34th Hudson Street and took a wrong turn after Vessel and Edge

By Bernburgerin1 |

We wanted to go all the way from north to south, but obviously we took a wrong turn at some point. It ended blindly. So instead of going back, we went on to Penn Station.
The part of the park we saw was nice!
Next time I would go from the south and hope not to get lost.

A must visit when in New York

By Rachy L |

The High Line in NYC is an urban gem—a beautifully designed elevated park offering a peaceful escape from city life. Its lush greenery, art installations, and stunning city views create a unique and refreshing experience. The park’s integration of nature and art, combined with great food options and a commitment to sustainability, makes it a must-visit. Whether you're exploring its scenic pathways or enjoying the seasonal exhibits, The High Line is a vibrant and inspiring urban oasis.

Pretty, but very crowded

By tinaNtravel |

This is a pretty place for a walk. There is a long walkway through the apartments, and some greenery which is rather nice. Can’t say that it is peaceful because there were tons of people and you could only go as fast as the crowd was moving. We went when it was rather cold and windy. I think it must be prettier on a warmer spring day.

Nice walk workout

By dyl008 |

If you like walking and looking at NY cityscapes, this is a must do. Very popular so there are crowds in summer months from what I can tell so not a peaceful serene walk but more like a gathering place for all walks of life experiencing this attraction. Makes me wonder if the people who live along this high line track gets any privacy. Something to do other than the usual Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building Times Square stuff.

Oasis in NYC

By Michael C |

A Oasis in New York City, free scenic walk on the west side, inventive use of disused railway, well maintained, loved it .

combine it with Chelsea

By IbizaMix |

It is very worth the walk and go to the Chelsea market and take the opportunity to visit said neighborhood on the way back. and the Friends building.

A really nice walk.

By centralvic |

This was a really nice walk in the morning, though we weren't out very early. We began near Chelsea Market and walked to Hudson Yards.
Plenty of people were there, and I can imagine it gets crowded, but everyone keeps moving along.
Walking between the buildings is interesting- and I wondered if occupants of apartments feel like goldfish in a bowl sometimes!
Keep an eye out for the boards with history of the High Line at the Hudson Yards end.
It's an easy walk, and quite unique as well.

Only in New York…

By Imliooper |

The High Line is a unique feature in New York City. One is inclined to remark, “Only in New York….”

Originally, the elevated P Way (or Permanent Way, to borrow the lingo of railway engineers) was set up in the 1930s to carry freight from the nearby meat packaging district to the other side of New York City. It ran from 33rd Street to 14th Street. And it served its function as a freight line for the next 50 or so years.

Over time, as trucking took over, freight trains along the elevated line ceased operating and the line went into disrepair. Vegetation grew along the lines as nature took over. Subsequently, the phenomenon that we nowadays popularly call “rewilding” occurred after the 1980s, creating a naturally bio-diverse habitat.

The old railway tracks are still visible along sections which have been deliberately planted over. There are some exotic plants and grasses too which are appropriately labelled along the way, making for a botanical learning exercise.

Along the High Line there are the ubiquitous stalls offering food and drink and other enterprising people selling street art.

There appears to have been plans to demolish the High Line a decade ago but the local citizenry seem to have banded together and campaigned to preserve it for posterity.

The magic and unique perspective afforded by being on a raised walkway, amidst natural and planted flora, surrounded by functioning offices and apartments, while traffic flows continually on the road below is unmatched anywhere else on the planet. Of course, only in New York…

An oasis in a big city

By Max It Out |

We started at the vessel and finished in Chelsea, we times it so it would be lunch time with a visit to Chelsea market.

This is a fantastic walk, lots of trees which really breaks up the sun, loads of art, it takes you away from the busy streets below, free and a must do

An urban oasis above Manhattan

We discovered a perfect escape from the city buzz while staying in the city! The mix of wild gardens, art installations, and city views made for an unforgettable date. The sunset views between buildings were absolutely stunning.

Walk along an elevated avenue built on the tracks of an old abandoned railway. In the path there are green areas and trees and you can see the beautiful panorama below There are some stretches that should be improved.

Enjoy stroll through the city

By Milly I |

A lovely way to stroll through the city without stopping every 2 minutes at a traffic light. Given it was October, it was a lot of greener versus colorful flowers but was still a nice walk.

OK but nothing special

By David S |

A nice walk but really nothing special. With so much to see and do in New York I wouldn’t be making a special trip to revisit here.

Stroll

By Gl0riA_d2014 |

One of the glimpses of nature immersed in the city, created from an old railway line. Great way to catch your breath between visits.

On a nice day, it’s a pleasant, relatively quiet NYS activity.

By Sandyman |

A gorgeous, long walk on a repaved railroad track bed. Lots of plants and flowers and views of neighborhood below. A safe activity for everyone.

Unexpected Panoramic Walk!!

By Marisol |

We got to The High Line prepared for a regular walk…but we found an adventure! You have to look up …Where you can appreciate the architecture, you have to look down to appreciate the views, you have to seat down to feel the breeze…to discover the art around you so beautifully located with beautiful plants and flowers, to give you a complete experience!! If you love outdoor experiences…You can’t miss this adventure!!!

Innovative

By sara f |

It is a striking linear green space born from the urban redevelopment project of an old elevated railway line, now in disuse, located about nine meters above street level.
Today, this 2.3-kilometre-long walk is an oasis in the heart of the city: a path surrounded by greenery, full of flowers, plants and art installations, which winds through the skyscrapers offering spectacular views of the urban landscape.
Along the way, made of elegant wooden slabs and enriched with metal sculptures, there are benches, rest areas and refreshments ideal for a relaxing break.
The park is accessible via eleven entrances, equipped with stairs or elevators, and is open from 7:00 to 19:00, with hours extended until 23:00 during the summer.
Original and innovative, this elevated promenade has become a must for those who want to experience the city from a different perspective, suspended between nature and architecture.

Superb idea of redevelopment. It would be useful to take a cue to be able to redevelop some structures that are drifting

A green band at a height of 9 metres - absolutely top class

By Wolfgang K |

The Highline is a highlight of every visit to New York and is completely free. Take the subway 7 to Hudson Yards and off you go. Trains carrying dangerous goods used to run here at a height of 9 meters. Now the several kilometer long route is covered in greenery. Trees are growing, countless flowers are blooming and there are small waterways and places to sit. Simply amazing. This is also a big point for New York. It is best to go to Little Island, where the greenery continues straight away.

Relaxing - High line walk

By sprinty187 |

Enjoyed walking the high line on a sunny day in NYC. There appear to be more entrance/exits to this old elevated railway walk than appear on phone mapping. Large Hudson Yards shopping centre at the northern end. We walked from one end to the other. Loads of staff and volunteers out refreshing the planting. Met a uniformed officer walking the site, didn’t catch if he as a ranger or office but was friendly and chatted to tourists. The walk gives you interesting views across the city, the river and beyond. Easy to spin a couple of hours decompressing from hectic NYC.

Lovely Walk

By Jeremy C |

A little crowded but a wonderful walk with lots of greenery, cool sculptures, and great views of the West side. Make sure to visit Chelsea Market after your walk.

Beautiful view from above!

By Deana G |

It was a beautiful day to stroll among charming houses and enjoy the views. It was also delightful to savor some treats offered nearby. Be sure to prepare for unexpected summer showers as well

Do walk the former train route!

By 24lorraineS |

We started our walk near the Vessel and went towards downtown. The High Line was a train route and now a walkway with lots of greenery and some art works, paintings or structures along the way. Maybe walk a small part of it for the experience!

A must for every New York holidaymaker

By julian070886 |

The High Line Park at Hudson Yards in the Chelsea neighborhood is a must-see for any New York visit. It is fun and it is also interesting to walk the path.

A green and calm delight in the city!

By KTandP |

What a find! We loved walking the Highline - we climbed the stairs near Chelsea market and walked up to Hudson Yards from there. It’s so lovely and green and calming. There’s seats along the way to sit and watch the world go by, including some over the road! And better yet, it’s a free attraction!

Cool walking route!

By Vdubtravels |

We were walking from midtown and back, why walk on the street when you can walk up next to towering buildings on an old railway track. It was cool, steady stream of people but a good pace walk and we ended it at the shops at Hudson.

Elevated walk

By Roberta B |

On a beautiful sunny day in early May we walked the old railway for a long distance towards Vessel. It allows you to admire the city from a particular location: above traffic and with a beautiful view of the skyscrapers. Highly recommended

Absolute highlight in NYC summer!

By 642familyof5 |

We all loved this, was one of our absolute highlights of a summer in NYC! It’s shady, cool, worth stopping at Chelsea markets.

So serene and the views are great!

By GretchenDK |

I finally got a chance to walk the High Line. I got on at the Whitney Museum and walked all the way to the 23rd Street elevator. I would have liked to walk the entire length but it was closed for repairs past 23rd Street for that day. I was there mid day and it was pretty hot. There are some shady spots so if you can grab a seat, then do it. As for me, I want to go back to the Whitney Museum but next time it will be later in the day if I'm going to walk the entire route of the High Line, when it's cooler and I want to be able to see the sunsets from there.

A must do

By Nala3112 |

This space was missing, bravo for the initiative and those who invested in doing it, this place is great.
The absence of dogs, skateboards and bicycles also has something to do with it.
Little personal touch, wonderful space to admire the architectural richness of the surrounding area.

Pleasant walk, but go earlier when it is less busy to get the most out of it.

By Parkrunner71 |

We walked The Highline south to north in the morning, setting off before 9.00 and before the crowds had started to build. This made for a very pleasant walk, with opportunities to stop, look at the landscaping, and take photos.
We walked back north to south around 15.00, when it was much busier, to the point of being crowded, making it difficult to navigate. This made for a less pleasant experience, and we were thankful we had taken our photos and made our stops during our earlier walk since anyone stopping created a bottleneck halting and frustrating the flow of pedestrians.
It's worth a visit, but try to avoid the busy times if you can.

It's worth it!

By David Medeiros |

I went in the cold February and was worth it, so I definitely recommend a walk there at any time of the year. It is an interesting way to see the city and the sculpture of the pigeon at one of the entrances makes it worth visiting, at the other end the Whitney Museum

Best when it's not too crowded

By DKPrinzessin |

A nice walk at a lofty height. Actually recommended at different times of the day. In the morning and in the evening a special and different atmosphere.

Great Outdoor Activity

By TarHeel |

We had read a lot about the High Line (repurposed railway tracks) but it's another thing to see it and walk it. During some down time, we actually found the starting point to the High Line but the signage wasn't well placed and we ended up walking in the wrong direction. On our last day in New York, we returned and actually found the right trail. We enjoyed the sights, the greenery and the fresh air. There appeared to be plenty of staff tending to the plants, and giving tours. We walked the length of the trail and back. Definitely a nice thing to do while in New York.

Relax on the High Line

By Livsnyderen2014 |

On an abandoned historic industrial lane, the city has managed to make a 2 km fantastic "park" on the 1st floor above traffic.
The route is planted with a sea of flowers and bushes, just as you can experience neighborhoods and buildings in different architecture.

You get behind the facade in the neighborhoods you pass, and at the same time the tour gives a nice view of the city and Hudson River.
You can enjoy views of Empire State Building, The Edge, Chelsea Market and Hudson Yards.
High Line Park has become very public-friendly, with picnic tables, elevators and public toilets in several places on the stretch.
The tour is also very handicapped and child-friendly, as wheelchairs and baby carriages can come around anywhere on the route.

When it is nice weather, food trucks and cafes are opened, where it is possible to get some food and drink.
During the high season, you have to be prepared for a lot of people who will enjoy a great trip.

Definitely a must see when in New York.

Great walking park

By Timothy M |

A walking park made from an abandoned train line, it’s a great place to walk and see the city. It has some neat artwork on exhibit along the way. Currently a large portion is shut down due to construction, but it’s due to open back up sometime in 2026. It’s easily accessed from the vessel.

Urban Oasis

By Abigail R |

An urban oasis that offers stunning views, vibrant greenery, and a unique perspective of the city. It's a must-visit destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and experience a peaceful stroll above the streets.

A great outdoor, part park, part pedestrian zone experience

By Bryce S |

We saw the Highline for the first time last Friday. This is a pedestrian zone, a walking path on an old elevated railway line, setup like a park. There are elevators and other ways to get onto the walking path. This activity is free.

My wife and I walked a bit, then found seats on a bench to engage in people watching. We had a great time. It is a very attractive, pleasant space.

We would try this again, to explore on a longer walk.

A bit meh - but a nice walk

By Steven R |

We went on a bit of a grey day and to be honest it was all a bit meh. I so desperately wanted it to be amazing but in the end thought walking around some of the lower parts of Manhattan was more interesting and photogenic. It’s a nice walk - some of the attraction is walking 15 blocks without a crossing. But make sure you’ve fixed up more to do in your day. Top tip is the Chelsea private art galleries underneath the high line are free and packed with super interesting art

High Line to Hudson Yards

By Cecilia M |

What a neat experience. We hadn't planned to walk The High Line but after visiting Chelsea Market we did it on a whim. So glad we did! A great way to see the city from a different perspective and not have to stop constantly for lights, etc.

Wonderful

By PipPaul W |

What a wonderful repurposing of redundant overhead rail stock
We did the total length in two visits - midway to south the first time, midway to north the second.
Such a variety of different planting, and all looks so very healthy
Love the way the trackway and seating is so well integrated, the way that the rail track is still there, the variety of views along the way, the standard of maintenance
Am absolute oasis within the skyscrapers

High line

By simcol1 |

Definitely worth doing this walk, totally beautiful, you see a different side to New York City, highly recommend, we did it in July on a very hot sunny day, and there’s lots of shady areas and seats to have a little rest.

A Scenic Stroll Above the City

By victoriafoody |

My family visited the High Line during our NYC trip. This elevated park is a converted disused railway line, offers a different perspective of Manhattan, views of the city landscape and the Hudson River, that you won't get from street level. It is a green pathway. Spanning from Hudson Yards to the Meatpacking District.

The pathway is landscaped with native plants and flowers and various sculptures. The park features various viewing platforms where visitors can take in the vibrant city scenery. Although some may find it lacks unique attractions beyond its pleasant walkability, it serves as an effective route to traverse from midtown to downtown while avoiding street traffic. However, word of caution: we initially tried visiting on a Saturday morning and it was mobbed! However, it does provides an escape from the bustling streets below.

The best part? It's free! If you're not expecting something spectacular and just want a peaceful urban walk with some decent views, the High Line delivers.

Elevated public park is a true gem

By Adventure Diva |

In this bustling city, you get to escape from the busy streets to this elevated public park. At times the park can get busy with foot traffic. Try to go early morning to experience a quiet calmness that permeates the air. Hours vary by season. From December thru March it's open from 7 am - 8 pm.

There are free public tours where docents tell you about the park's history, design and landscape. Decent was informative and proud to show what the high line represents. Location of tour started at the top of Gansevoort Street stairs. Check the website for the days and times the tours are offered.

Successful redevelopment

Nice idea to redevelop adding greenery, which never hurts.
Some very beautiful cliffs.
I was expecting a little more green and shade, but maybe it was too high.

Relaxing

By delagioventu |

Interesting walk in the area of Chelsea, nice to see the city from a higher perspective, relaxing to stroll there, worthwhile.

Just a greenway... nothing more

By Cyrille H |

This greenway is not worth a detour. It's a good way to connect the Vessel and Chelsea... after all nothing extraordinary, nor particular views.

Beautiful

By Melaine M |

The High Line is a great place to experience a different side of New York City. It’s an elevated park built on an old railway line, and it stretches for quite a distance through Manhattan’s west side. Walking along it is a peaceful break from the busy streets below.
The landscaping is beautiful, with a nice variety of plants and flowers, and there are also interesting art installations along the way. The views of the city and the Hudson River are definitely a highlight, especially around sunset.
It can get a bit crowded, especially during weekends or tourist season, and there aren’t a lot of places to sit or relax for long periods. But overall, it’s a creative and refreshing public space that adds something unique to the city. Definitely worth checking out if you're visiting New York.

Not for me!

By casey |

This will probably make me unpopular but the high line for me was quite boring, I didn’t get what the attraction was and for me was my least favourite thing to do whilst in New york.

Amazing tour by High Line volunteers

By Cherie M |

We participated in an amazing Docent tour by volunteers at the High Line. Richard and Jennifer shared fascinating information about the history, surrounding architecture, plants and trees. The tour enriched the experience of the beautiful park, way above the city. Highly recommended.

Hidden gem

I think the general description says it all. I am here just to confirm that it is wirth it. Wecwere staying in Manhattan, it was a ver pleasant way to reach Chelsea.

An experience not to leave pssar

By bluserita |

I went to New York for work, after an activity, I walked the High Line at night. It's a beautiful walk, don't stop doing it, I recommend it!

Amusing walk

By German_Addick |

A trip over the former high-speed railway line is an absolutely recommended excursion. From above you have a completely different view of the city. It's also nice that you don't have to stop at a red light at every corner.
Large parts along the way are beautiful green areas, which also in summer shade a bank again and again to relax briefly or just to enjoy a beautiful sight.

Disappointing

By Helen G |

Half of the High line was closed and the other half was ok as was better than walking by the road but the vegetation was all dead and looked uncared for- Maybe because we are coming out of winter. It's great to have used the old rail track but I wouldn't say its a must do

Architecture and History

By Camila M |

Lots of architecture and perfect spots for great photos of the city.
The work that was done in this area of the city is incredible, I started at Chelsea Market and walked to Vessel. There are several entry/exit points along the way, but it's worth going through all the points and enjoying the old mixed with the new...

Nice walk in nyc

By Amanda F |

A nice way to get to Chelsea market a unique walk with plants and nice views of art and different designed buildings it is nice in the summertime with blooming plants

Walk not to be missed

By Elena |

I highly recommend taking this walk at sunset to enjoy the view and the play of light that are created with the buildings.
However not to be missed, along the way there are stations where you can stop, works of modern art and at certain times courses / experiences are organized open to the population.
The walk is simple and accessible to everyone, north ends towards Hudson Yard.

Enjoyable Stroll

By LexiV |

We've done this before, but it was 6 years ago so the art is different now. It's a very enjoyable walk. The giant pigeon statue is a highlight.

Best urban walk in NYC

Easily my favorite free activity and urban walk in NY. I started up north the path all the way to Chelsea. A 30min, easy walk with great views of the buzzing city. Well worth your time.

Lovely NYC walking experience!

By MidwestKathM |

We have never leave Manhattan without walking The High Line! We were captivated the first time we walked it and we continue to be captivated. This time was a Sunday evening starting from its southernmost point next to The Whitney museum and walking all the way up to The Shed performance venue. Such a treat to walk at night under the autumnal moon over New York City! It's enjoyable to see the streets below, the buildings alongside, and the art throughout. Plus we get to stretch our legs after dinner, get some steps in, and breath fresh air! On this evening, there were only a few people, mostly couples, walking the route.

Very nice walk offering interesting view of the city

By Leong Chee Sheng |

This walk offers an interesting view of the city on an elevated walk. We absolutely enjoyed it, though it's really dependent on a good weather. The walk is chill and beautiful if you're in for it. We started the walk from Hudson area and ended at Chelsea, and did not finish the entire walk.

A city Oasis worth finding

By Charles_and_Susan |

We'd only arrived in New York a few hours earlier but we wanted to join the walk along the High Line guided by one of the High Line Volunteers. It's an amazing space on an old railway viaduct that has been converted into a green oasis. Lots of work has gone into making a layer for the plants to thrive. Along the way there are various artworks too. Some were specially comissioned for the location.

One of the amazing things to me was that when it was originally constructed to bring meat into the packing factories it was constructed through the buildings that were there at the time. You can still see a few where the High Line goes through and the building is shaped around it.

Taking the guided walk we learnt a lot about its construction and the continuing efforts to save it from the developers. It's worth the effort getting there and there are views of the river and the city too

A breath of fresh air on a busy and stifling day in NYC

Fantastic innovation in NY

By Mer21maid |

We went all the way from one end to the other on the High Line - stopping at Chelsea Market, Little Island etc on the way. It is such a nice (and sometimes crowded (and hot 🥵)) walk, and it is such a pleasure seeing the artwork on the way!

High line 5 stars en NYC

By cholitaviajera |

An excellent work of engineering and space recovery. The views from there are very good and it is like a respite from the bustle of the city in the same city

Busy but definitely worth visiting

By nonsibisedaliis |

Great vision to repurpose a disused elevated railway line and it's brilliantly executed. Views of the city and the Hudson and imaginative vegetation on a narrow but long footprint.
It was already busy on a cool Thursday morning in May, so it must be hopping when the weather gets warmer and tourist season heats up.

A peaceful oasis

By Wilona |

We discovered a peaceful oasis above Manhattan's bustling streets. The High Line offered us stunning urban views mixed with beautiful landscaping. Perfect for holding hands and taking photos together. The art installations along the way kept us intrigued, and the various seating areas allowed us to rest and people-watch.

An oasis in the city

We walked from Hudson Yard to The Chelsea market.. What a brillant idea turning a disused railway into a pathway.. Filled with plants, shrubs, trees and character. A successful redevelopment

By Mariangela M |

A park, a path, an art gallery, a city dive... a bit of everything.
Far from traffic and yet immersed in the city.
Absolutely to live this experience also to understand how New York anticipates the idea of urban regeneration.
The walk takes half an hour, there is the possibility to stop in the many benches present. Many views where to take photos and selfies

We visited twice!

By skd22 |

We went one evening and walked the length of the entire line. It is a beautiful space and a great juxtaposition to the city scape. We finished on a Friday around 9:30pm. It closes at 10:pm. There were very few people. It was getting darker and harder to see all of the plants. We found ourselves back in the area after a boat tour and went back on Sunday around 7:30pm to walk part of it again around the Chelsea Market. It was very crowded and not as enjoyable. Still worth the trip as it is very unique and nice to see the revitalization of an old rail yard. There are posters showing the timeline and how people raised money to save this area from demolition and preserve the history of the rail line that use to service the meat packing area.

Pleasant surprise

By Sabrina S |

A different walk, a redevelopment of an old metro line that I greatly appreciated. If you love architecture there are interesting ideas.
If you are hungry, look for the COOKSHOP restaurant just a few minutes walk from the High Line you eat well!

Nice respite

If you have time, this is a nice walk along an elevated railway that has now been turned into a park. It has good views and is a peaceful respite in contrast to the NY streets. Plus it’s free.

Beautiful park that comes from the conversion of an old railway overhead line. This park has been very well thought out in its layout. The vegetation is lush. All along the way different viewpoints allow to appreciate the city and the surroundings. You can also go down to the chelsea market, temple of the
Food, which is down the park. Only downside the park can quickly be crowded.

Walking The High Line 🚶

By TheFussyTeenager |

We started around the Robert Mann Gallery and headed down The High Line to Little Island. This would probably be a better activity to do in the summer when the plants are blooming, but it still offered a different way to walk New York. There were art installations dotted along the way.

Beautiful

They've made a hanging garden over what the train tracks were. It is a beautiful place to take a walk and impact the height of the skyscrapers, and the beauty of the architecture added to the green of the park.

A nice walk

Great walk in a middle of NYC

Great walk in a middle of NYC. Can get busy so maybe it is better to go early or later on in the afternoon. Really enjoyed it and would recommend.

Lovely walk

We really enjoyed the walk. It was such a shame there was so much of it shut. Definitely one to do if you have extra time while in New York.

Splendid!

It's wonderful to walk along the High Line, enjoy the great views and stop at Chelsea Market and have something delicious to eat there.

Rediscovery of the High Line

By roval2631 |

We did it at the start of its opening during one of our end-of-year trips to New York. So it was freezing and the plants were small. There you stroll peacefully around artistic works and plants and it’s very pleasant. You start at the Vessel to Chelsea market for an early dinner. Very pleasant

Hiper view of New York City

By Nelson C |

The High Land walking view of New York City is a must if you are in Manhattan.
It is a great way to exercise and experience the different points of the architecture and green areas. This is the third time I’ve chosen this free tour! I had two friends of the Middle West who also praised it and even compared to the mono trail of Indianapolis. The difference is that the walking path in New York is way high above many buildings, while the Midwest trail is flat, like everything else.
Don’t miss it if you are here!

Choosing the guided tour of the High Line

By Curiosity54439395525 |

Cale was our guide. We learned a lot about the history of the High Line and of New York city aswell.
Cale is very friendly, punctual, open to any questions.
The free walk over the High Line park would have been nice and beautiful. But the guided tour is better and most interesting!

Beautiful and nice path

The park is beautiful, walk around the city from above, while enjoying the greenery and taking lots of photos.
Walking from Chelsea Market to Vessel is a good way by Hide Park

Worth visiting

A former railway site - Part currently under construction but recoverable. Allows a view of Hudson Bay - An original walk to include in a visit to New York. Continue through the Chelsea-Market district

WHAT TO DO ABSOLUTELY

By Moulinouch |

What a place. We did not know, calm prevails here, we walk, we admire the landscapes, we stroll, far away the Hudson, further the aircraft carrier museum. A mall of course but no store to day, just strolling.

Sunset walk

By Joseph L |

Beautiful scenery with many spots great for a photo. There are several shops you can buy drinks in case you get thirsty. They have elevators for pwd, and several exits. My visit had a portion closed off, so i had to get down and walk a few blocks before going back up. But overall experience was wonderful. Free to visit.

A must do in NY - and it’s Free!!!

The High Line is one of the best attractions in New York and it’s totally free. Really nice walk and a great way to see the city.

Have a nice walk

By Cheyenne |

Nice walk when you are tired of the traffic lights. Because you walk a bit higher, it automatically feels a bit calmer, even though you can sometimes walk over the heads.

A bit overrated, not a must!

By Patrick |

I wouldn't count the High Line Park as one of the highlights in New York!
It's a nice walk, but you're not really "high" above the street and so the view doesn't get much better!

As Chelsea is well worth a visit, you can take a walk along it. But next time, spend more time in Hudson Yards or Chelsea Market. You don't miss much if you haven't been there!

Long "park"

By Linda H |

The High Line is a long park on an old elevated train tracks in the middle of Manhattan. It is about 2.5 kilometers long. It's free of charge. Along the way a great view of Manhattan. Lots of planting along the way and explanations about it. There is also a kind of grandstand glass wall on the way where you can take pictures as if you were on the road. Nice walk.
