1 of 647 Best Attractions in New Orleans

We only had an half day to explore this attraction. The price (veteran's discount) was fair, and the overall experience was amazing.
The volunteers and staff were very helpful with directions, assisting us with a loaner wheelchair, and providing advice on what to see with our limited schedule.
We watched "Beyond all Boundaries" and we believe that every American needs to see this -- perhaps they could show it on PBS? The narration, explanation of the pre-WWII American activities, declaration of war, effects, etc. was near-perfect. Dang dust got in my eyes (okay, I and a lot of other folks had tears in our eyes).
As a Marine veteran, I wanted to see the Pacific Campaign exhibit and we were not disappointed. So much information and multi-media / immersive exhibits!
In hind sight, I wish that we had explored the "Road to Berlin" so that we could learn more about 442nd Regimental Combat Team (hoping that Hollywood makes a movie about this unit!).

A must see for those interested in history and the incredible stories from WWII. The museum retells the story of different battles, personal accounts and has incredible items on display. Plan to spend minim 5h and be ready to walk walk walk! Totally worth it.

LOVED THE EXPERIENCE AS ALWAYS!!!! From the kindness of the entrance, all very attentive! Food wooo even say 10/10

I was in New Orleans with a few hours to kill. I like history, so I decided to check out this museum. The museum is so well done and so extensive, that you will literally have to spend a week here to see everything. I spent 3 hours at the museum, and only got through two of the exhibits in one of the buildings. And there are SIX buildings!!! this is a must see for any history buff, or anybody who enjoys learning new things. The exhibits have a tremendous amounts of artifacts and do an excellent job framing the context of the events around WW2. An absolutely amazing museum.

A fantastic museum. We had standard entry, none of the extras and still had a great experience. The museum is huge and each area is themed and keeps it interesting. Lots of interactive exhibits and videos.
Perhaps less for children to do.
Really interesting as brits to learn more about the Japanese and Americans.
Holocaust section was sobering and really important to highlight.
We were undecided on this or the Mardi Gras museum thinking this isn’t specific to New Orleans but I’m so glad we visited this museum.

Fabulous experience. Amazing detail and presentation. Recommend the 4-D movie as a "must see first" as it sets the stage for the whole day. A very sobering experience. Wish more of the younger generation could experience and appreciate.

This is , at a minimum, an all day museum, but one day is not really enough to see/do it all. There is so much and it is so comprehensively covered. We choose to view only the permanent exhibits w/o the extra experiences. This museum looks very deeply, and in multiple ways, at a global war, from start to finish. It delves into the where, why, who and how. After a day of reading, reviewing and incorporating so much info, you realize how much humanity hasn't learned as the desire for power, control and land continues and drives intolerance and brutality.

Most comprehensive exhibit of the history of WWll that I have seen. A must do if you are in New Orleans. If we don’t learn history we will be doomed to repeat it.

I dissent a bit from the consistent 5 star reviews. Partly because of the price (37.50), partly because the war had such scope that it's hard, even in a large museum, to cover everything in depth. Also I was blown away by the WWI museum in KC, and this doesn't quite match (though again, with so much more to cover, might not be a fair comparison). I did appreciate the focus on individual stories that really brought home specific experiences and can seriously move you. You won't be disappointed and I did alter later plans to spend a couple additional hours here. Street parking is possible.

OH. MY. GOSH. This museum is amazing. I am NOT a WWII buff but this museum blew me away. It is extremely well done.
Back at our hotel that evening, we even watched two WWII movies on Netflix (something I never would have been interested in doing before seeing the museum)!

Wow! Just wow They did an amazing job with this museum. I was spent most of the time touring though in awe. We were there 4 hours solid and probably could have stayed longer!
Thank you to all of the staff and great volunteers who run the museum!

One of the best museums I've ever visited. It tells the story of WWII in way that keeps it interesting. Must visit if in new orleans

Spent the whole day. Wonderful place to really understand such a historic time. The movie was amazing. Glad we took our teenage grandson.

Very big! One could spend days if you did every exhibit, movie and interactive. Can be pretty emotional and heavy, but well presented. Be sure to see movie. Best to get there when it opens at 9. Lots of volunteers to guide you.

Me and my wife finished our honeymoon at this museum and I must say I'm very impressed. I've been to many war museums and this is the best I've been to. The exhibitions were very nicely constructed and informative and all the different themes were very interesting. We also ate in the restaurant and the food was good. Their store also had very good products that we bought. Don't miss this if you're in New Orleans!

This is a world class museum which we have visited many times. Do not miss this museum and give yourselves lots of time as each building is extraordinary.

Had a limited amount of time on a rainy Monday before my flight home, so I decided to pay a visit.
Bought what is called the best value package which included access to all of the exhibits, and the 2 experiences.
The first experience, Beyond All Boundaries can only be described in 1 word, "moving".
The second one was in a rotating theater, very well done.
This museum is huge, and to see all of the exhibits and learn about everything requires allot of time (1 of the volunteers there said to see everything would require 2 days) which unfortunately I didn't have. I basically just walked thru what I believe was every room.
I must come back to New Orleans again and allow myself more time (possibly a second day) to see and experience it all.

Beautiful Museum with an incredible 4D show that’s a must see. Lots of great information, lots of hands on, and a “take home “ access to all information viewed while visiting. A happy ending is a quick stop at the soda shop before leaving.

What a amazing museum. So much information and great explanations from how war started to how it ended. We learned so much.

Incredible museum! Plan on staying AT LEAST 3 hours- this place is massive but well worth every minute of your time. Kept my hard to impress husband and 18 year old daughter's interest throughout our entire visit. If you love history or want to learn more about WW2 this needs to be at the top of your list for things to do while in New Orleans.

Fantastic museum. Spent a total of 9 hours over two days. Not just a NOLA must-see, but a nationwide treasure worth a special trip.

Museum was way bigger than I was expecting with a variety of exhibits. The exhibits designed to resemble WW2 were very cool. Be sure to plan lots of time at the museum if you want to see everything.

Wonderful add to our trip as first timers! So much detail and stuff in the exhibits we had not seen before! What a great history lesson for all three of us! They were having an event while we were there, which was very cool to see some of the vets walking around and in wheelchairs.
We even ate in the restaurant which was great so we didn’t have to find anywhere to eat for lunch and it was reasonably priced.

I rated this a 5/5 because it was very detailed and a lot of exploration and the movies /shows were top tier but my little brother is 7 and he didn’t really enjoy it so I would recommend this for family’s with teens or older adults it’s also very inclusive wheel chair accessible

Really good historical references, love the sets and the oratory on the video walkthroughs. Naming all the planes for my son was a treat.

This is a must do when in New Orleans. My husband & I spent hours here. There’s so much to see & it is so well done. We were disappointed with ourselves because we missed a building & didn’t realize it until after we got rid out our tickets, so make sure you get to every building.

We were off in time to watch a movie. It was 4D - we felt explosions in our seats, had a plane come at us, got snowed on with real flakes, and were blinded by flashes of light. It was very profound but good. Next we had a delicious meal while watching a wonderful show put on by the Victory Belles. Oh my, what voices and such sincere interaction with the audience. We were on our own to tour as we wished. It was typical of a war museum but one got a sense of the loneliness of the soldiers away from family, the horror of the Nazi regime, and the misery of war. When one is tired of seeing artifacts, there is a great bar to relax, find peace and quiet from the crowds, and recoup emotions.

World class fully immersive and interactive museum of World War II. 4 D movie a must. Artifacts displayed to give you a feel of what it would have been like to have been there. Following a personal account of one who lived during that time throughout the museum made it memorable.

What an experience! This museum was over the top good, though I recommend bringing a box of tissues as the liberation stories are incredibly difficult to read/watch. The museum carefully takes one through each of the war theaters (Africa, Pacific, Europe) with videos and other material. Highly recommend taking 2 days, as after about 4 hours one can become saturated and taking a break and coming back the next day (for just an extra $15) is a good option.

A great insight to our fight for freedom and justice. We will highly recommend this to many people who visit New Orleans in the future.

We weren't aware of this museum, but it was listed on many sites as the number one attraction in Nola, so we went.
It didn't disappoint. We spent four hours there and we loved it.
From the depression to the end of the war, all facets of the war are covered in depth. We have traveled all over the world and this was indeed one of the best museum experiences we had.
NO NEED to purchase anything other then the general admission ticket. A terrific day to learn about our history!

This Museum is one of the best Museums I have ever been to. 7 buildings with multiple floors in each, there is SO much information and things to see. You definitely need at least a full day to see everything. Highly recommend!

A very interesting and very well explained museum, which presents the Second World War from the point of view of the involvement of the United States.
For us Europeans (and French), it was exciting to discover this different perspective on history and learn so many new things.
The exhibition is rich, well organized, and the staff is welcoming and friendly. Many thanks also to the volunteers, who make the visit even more pleasant with their explanations and kindness.
A visit not to be missed!

Great History Lesson, Great time, saw many things for the first time in my life. Purchased mementos in their Gift Shop. Really enjoyed the Dog Tag experience,

An absolutely fabulous museum. It thoroughly tells the stories of the military campaigns, the homefront, and more! Truly something for everyone -- from the military strategy buff to anyone with a general interest in US and world history.
The "Into the Vault" tour was worth every penny -- at least for us Museum Nerds! We had two hours with a museum curator who showed us many artifacts that are not on public display, as he told the stories of their acquisition by the museum.

We had a day free before a pub crawl through the French Quarter and had friends recommend the WWII Museum. We were very pleased we decided to take their recommendations. This place is massive! I wish we had another day to explore it. You cannot see it all in a day, if you want to read and explore the multiple exhibits. Everything is done so professionally and in depth. The first hand recordings and numerous artifacts were amazing. Each exhibit was so well done. One of the best museums we have ever been to.
I became a charter member, and will renew my membership yearly.

While on a bus trip to New Orleans, we stopped at the National WWII Museum. There is so much history to see in this museum. We tried to follow the map that was given to us at the door, but found that it is hard to follow. It doesn't show how to move from one building to the next. We had a very hard time finding how to get to building 3.
My favorite parts of the museum were looking at the various planes, and seeing the European theater. I enjoyed the information about the men who were tasked with recovering works of art that were hidden from the Nazis. Others were stolen and had to be recovered.
We were at this museum for 3.5 hours, but only saw parts of it. I would allow a full day and even that may not be enough to see everything.

It takes a lot for me to rate something 5 stars but this place is worth it. If 6 stars were a thing, they would get it. This place is so well put together, immersive, respectful and just jam packed with things to see and do. This does not just cover one museum, but there are several other buildings/exhibits to take part in. This is basically a block full of museums and exhibits all dedicated to telling the stories of our greatest generation. I would recommend staying here multiple days (even a hotel onsite) and take in as much as you can.

This was so educational on this horrific time in our history. It was presented and explained how this was a “World War”.
A 10 out of 10. Must see by ALL.

Exceeded expectations for experience and quality of info. My wife wasn't a history major, The presentation was so helpful for her. Exceeded our expectations.

I'm not a museum person, but this is one you shouldn't miss! It's a top rate museum with lots of interactive exhibits and lots of helpful volunteers. Seriously, you could spend a couple of days here and not see it all. Don't miss the 4D movie narrated by Tom Hanks

We were told one day wouldn't be enough and that is an understatement! Wish we had time to go back (it costs $ 15 for second day admission that can be used up to 7 days past your first visit). We took our time, listened to the videos and personal accounts. For context, we got there around 10:45AM and stayed until 5PM closing (we didn't stop for lunch) and there was still a lot we wanted to see.

Everyone should visit this museum—it is spectacular! We spent two full days seeing the exhibits and still did not see everything so if we were to return we would take three days. Don’t hurry through it. The archival film and photo footage is amazing as are the displays and the introductory movie is well worth the price. It is an emotional experience especially if you have had a friend or family member who was in the War. Highly recommended.

Great museum. Unfortunately we only had half a day for the visit, but you can easily spend a day or two there. The various exhibitions are very well designed and very informative.

Great choice for a day of learning. Enjoyed the professional polish. Wonderful films and the best docents. Highly recommend.

The price paid for our freedom is shown here!! This is a must for every American!! I left with PTSD just by being here a must

I had heard that it was well done, and it did not disappoint. The exhibits brought you into the experience the soldiers. It was tastefully done. It should not me missed. But give yourself the whole day. We were not able to see it all although we got there at 11 and stayed to closing.

We were overwhelmed with the exhibits and the information at the WW2 museum. It was absolutely amazing to walk through, read all of the signs, and take it all in. Absolutely inspiring. Didn't get enough time there and would love to go back! Its a MUST do!!!!

Wow! I specifically planned a whole day for the museum, and after we were done, I wished I had planned two days.
We made advanced online reservations for entry and both movies on a combo ticket. We arrived by ride-share right at opening (9 am) and had breakfast burritos at the nostalgic soda shop. The staff of volunteers and paid staff are very friendly and informative. They have “Plan Your Day” itinerary guides for visits of varying lengths. It’s a lot. It’s a vast campus. We had lunch at the American sector restaurant and bar to save time and stay on site. They claim the other eateries are on campus, but they are actually in nearby hotels, and the reviews aren’t great.
Every building and room offers a visual, audio, and artifact history of every aspect of the war and beyond. My son and I enjoyed every aspect, and it was the museum highlight of our New Orleans vacation.

Brilliant museum with artifacts and information presented in a thoughtful and interesting way. May have just been me but the first few galleries are a little confusing to navigate so you don't miss anything but again it could have just been me. The George H.W. Bush Aviation Gallery was a highlight

The museum is beautiful. The scenography is fabulous. You'll take a lot of eyes...
Only downside.. the staff.. not smiling, not friendly.. they do not inform us properly. The American restaurant is good but the same for the staff .. not even time to finish when we are taken off our plate and given the Rating ..
In short go there to see the museum to see the scenography and discover in detail the Second World War .. while ignoring the staff ..

I honestly cannot add anymore information than has been shared by all other contributors. This is truly a wonderful and enlightening museum. Thoughtfully laid out and well done with telling the story of this war. We were there 3.5 hours and did not have time to do all the galleries. We plan on coming back to see the rest. It would really take the complete day to really see it and maybe 1.5 days to be able to read all the information there is to read and listen to.

This was way bigger then I expected. We spent over 5 hours including both films which I wouldn’t leave out of your visit. Had the fried green tomato napoleon at the American sector restaurant and wished I ordered a second order.

It's definitely worth visiting. I usually don't enjoy museums, but this was so engaging. I learned things I didn't know about WW2.

Outstanding. This is the best WW2 museum anywhere. A day is not enough for anyone with an interest in military history. Not to be missed.

Well organized. Excellent museum. Lots of interesting artifacts. The guidebook needs to be better as it was confusing to locate some areas.

This was the 3rd time we visited the museum and it keeps getting bigger and better each time we've gone. In fact, we've been to all types of museums all over the world and I would rate this in my top 5, ever.
We originally planned just 1 day but after the excellent 4-D move, more presentations, an excellent 2 hour guided tour that we signed up for, and a book talk (free), we came back for a second day to revisit in deeper detail, all that we missed the day before. And even then, we did not cover all we wanted to.
This is a truly special, moving place and I would recommend it to everyone.

This museum is a one-of-a-kind experience, fully SEVEN buildings with interactive, multimedia exhibits about WWII, from the events leading up to the war to its aftermath. A must see!!

Truly done well.
The history of the museum is as interesting as the exhibits.
6 buildings, going to be 7!
In 5 hours we didn't see it all.
Our favorites were:
The Museum Men exhibit
The Bastone exhibit
The Beyond all Boundaries movie
The Boeing hall

Please take your time to see all the exhibition , I was amazing experience. The people it’s very nice and you can learning a lot about the WWll

Amazing museum, and BIG! In fact; if they have something not on display, it didn’t happen. Take your time, there's a LOT to see! Word of advice; park in the underground garage, at the back of the museum. NOT on the parking lot right next to it.

Friends had told us it takes a good 2 days to adequately see it all. I think it would actually take longer to ingest the vast amt of information here. Sadly, we only had one day, but we were there ftom 9 am to 5 pm and enjoyed every step. Excellent, interactive facility. It is fabulous.

The National WWII Museum explores the American WWII experience, revealing why it was fought, how it was won, and its contemporary implications to appreciate the cost of freedom and draw motivation.
This museum is 6 buildings. We spent 4 hours there and DID NOT see it all!

The first pavilion was worth seeing. Past that there’s not much to it. It’s big but not much content. I’m a huge world war buff and was very excited for this museum. We set aside an entire day but were bored after only a couple hours. Had my expectations not been so high I may have liked it better. Everything I read prior to going made it seem like this was an all day kind of place but 2-3 hours was plenty. The information presented is very elementary. The artifacts are fun to see, but I go to museums to learn and there’s just not much to this one.

This was a wonderful experience for my kids (ages 14 and 17) And for me and my husband for spring break. We spent the entire day and it was truly enjoyable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was above expectations for an on site location. I highly recommend if you are looking to add an educational experience to your vacation.

Incredibly thorough WW2 museum, with deep dives into major and overlooked battles. Loved the portion about the political and social turmoil that built up into the beginnings of WW2 and the interactive components of following a soldier with your scan tag. The most immersive experience was following D-Day and V-E day in the second building.

I'm not a big history buff, but I brought my reluctant husband and ended up staying hours longer than planned. The "Beyond all Boundaries" movie was excellent, and we followed TripAdvisor recommendations and did not go to the Freedom Theatre experience movie. The exhibits were excellent, with highly varied content and delivery. The "follow a person" with an electronic dog tag was a nice touch. We spent so much time in the first building and Pacific rim, we did not have much time for Europe. I wished I knew about the "Final Mission: USS Tang Submarine Experience" further in advance - I would have like to have experienced it. It's worthy of a second visit. My husband and I both enjoyed it very much and highly recommend.

Make sure to book with the 4D video, not the General Admission. Otherwise you won't see it and will have to pay. But all the exhibits were amazing!

Beautifully done!! Wonderful experience, learning the history of so many countries involved in World War II. The displays were exceptional. It felt like we were among the soldiers and victims.

Found this a very interesting tour. Gave a great insight on how America affected the war, the organisation phenomenal.
The short movies gave great information. We spent 1 full day here 9 - 5.

We went to New Orleans specifically for the WWII Museum. My husband loved it. I asked several people how much time to allow to see the museum in depth - most people told me 1 to 1 1/2 days. However, if you are someone who really enjoys WWII history, I would allow a full 2 days to see everything.

As an Englishman, I approached this museum with a certain scepticism about American bias towards the war. But this was unwarranted, as the exhibition tells a fair and informative portrait of the build-up from 1937 through to the aftermath. Two or three hours passed by easily, and I would recommend it to anyone.
The 'American Sector' restaurant was very nice too.

This is a world class museum. You could easily spend a few days wandering through all of the incredible exhibits- artifacts, videos, etc. very educational. 9 / 10

Wow! What an incredible place. The exhibits are so well done, they have truly thought of everything, from the sounds and lighting, to personal effects and stories, photos, weapons and so much more to really immerse you in the history. I particularly liked the quotes from soldiers next to pictures and personal effects in the section about DDay and the glider carrying a jeep in the pacific section. The only negative was not having enough time for the entire museum. 3 hours was not nearly enough for me! This is a must see destination.

This is a very beautiful and well done museum. So much history and displays. The films were informative. We spent the whole day there

I cannot speak highly enough about this museum. I did not realize it is now SIX buildings! All of which house multiple floors of artifacts, interactive and multimedia experiences. We spent 7 hours at the museum, walked almost 5 miles total, and still did not see every exhibit. We did see the Tom Hanks narrated 4-D film and it was very good. We however did not have time for the rotating theatre film or the submarine experience. We did not get a chance to use the second day of our pass, but I plan on returning sometime soon for sure!

Great museum with lots of interesting things to see. The exhibits were new and modern. The staff was friendly and well organized, and it was a great way to spend 3-4 hours.

Well laid out, and easy to navigate. We were there four hours and only saw about 2/3 of the museum. Loved the videos at many of the exhibits.

It's amazing! Very original, didactic and creative, they have very interesting facts that I didn't know about WWII, you end up with a very reflective feeling about the war

The WWII museum is overflowing with artifacts, information, sights, and sounds. The history teacher in our group could have easily spent the entire day there, but the teenagers were more than satisfied with the 4 hours we spent :). It was very cool to see the same Japanese rifle that was inherited from our grandfather on display there. The men and women who served were truly the Greatest Generation.

The place has multiple buildings!!! It took several hours to get through it. We had a great time. We were able to see lots of fabulous history that you can’t truly comprehend as well as those that have been there! But, the museum offers perspectives from all angles to get a great understanding!! Many items and rooms have interactive options, making it a great place for adults and kids alike!!

We visited many years ago when it was the D-Day Musuem and, my, how it has grown. I like that it is divided into two separate areas focusing on the war in Europe on one floor and the Pacific on another. A huge number of artifacts as well as lots of personal stories are the backbone of the museum. My only gripe, and it is petty, is that the museum is geared for those w/ a casual interest and I would have liked more in depth looks at some of the battles and strategy which seemed much more apparent in the Pacific section than the European. There are a few areas that are a bit "over the top" and geared more for family entertainment than actual study but I suppose that is to be expected when trying to interest everyone.
Plan to spend most of the day no matter how passionate you are about history (I arrived at opening and left as they were closing)

This was our second visit to the WWII museum and we spent nearly 6 hours there today. We started our day with the movies, including the 4-D that was exceptionally good. Really prepared museum goers for the whole experience. We thoroughly explored building one and spent smaller amounts of time in the remaining spaces. The displays are informative and well done; many are interactive. Great day and well worth the price of admission. Bonus- I was hoping to find one honorary brick-the staff was diligent in helping me locate the brick and provided exact directions to its location….and there it was. Buy tickets ahead, do attend the movie, plan for a long day.

Superb museum that shows the war from the American perspective
After seeing all the D-Day museums in Normandy I thought I saw everything... a new vision is brought it is interesting and it will completely complete our knowledge and discoveries

This was an incredibly immersive experience that was laid out perfectly, separated by both the European theatre and the Pacific Theater on each floor, which flowed wonderfully into each other. The videos were extremely informative, exhibits were terrific and presented in such a way that you got a sense of the timeline of both segments of World War II, while the images and videos also showed the tragic, human cost of the war, the Holocaust, POW camps, and the Atomic Bomb. Anyone who loves history and World War II should make a point to visit this museum!

Come at 0900 to see everything.
We arrived at 11:30, then the day flew by. The place closes at 5pm and like…5pm on the dot! These guys close the doors and almost usher you out the door!
Anyway. The museum is probably the best World War Two museum I have ever been to. And I only got to see two thirds of it.
It’s a huge place. Floor after floor, exhibit after exhibit. I was amazed, shocked, humbled, and downright tear stricken by some of what is on display here.
I have been to many war museums, like Duxford for instance. This is in a different league. I have been to ones in France. This is just better.
It’s so well laid out, easy to get around, clean and tidy. Staff and volunteers are on nearly every corner of the place to answer questions, and are very knowledgeable. The exhibits are so so educational, beautiful and it really transported me back in time to what it must have been like at that point in history.
Will be coming back to New Orleans, will be coming back to this place for sure.
The gift shop is ok. Mainly flogging cheap crap for your house and gift ideas. The Cafe closes 3pm sharp and we were pretty much told to get out bang on 3!
Expensive food and drink here.
There is another place to eat in one of the other buildings of the museum
We will be coming back to NOLA and the museum.

Large museum in the heart of New Orleans. Excellent historical review if you take the time to read and watch the videos. I thought the best part was the Holocaust Section which was better than the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.

The WWII Museum in New Orleans is an experience unlike any other. Typically, I don’t get overwhelmed at museums, but this one consumed me for hours. The sheer depth and attention to detail in its exhibits are fabulous, and you’ll find yourself completely absorbed in the stories of the war. I highly recommend setting aside at least 5 hours to all day.
The layout is engaging, with exhibits like the “Road to Berlin” and “Road to Tokyo” pulling you into the heart of both conflicts. I personally found the “Road to Japan” section particularly intense. The emotional weight of the content is so well conveyed that it feels more like you’re living it versus just reading it.
This museum goes far beyond just facts and dates. It captures the stories, personal struggles and triumphs of those who lived through one of the most defining moments in history. You’ll leave with a deep respect for the sacrifices made. Heavy but a must-visit.

Being English, it was good to hear the story of WW2 from the USA perspective, we saw the 4D experience with Tim Hanks narrating, which was good! The rest of the museum is interesting and like most war museums you hear the same stories.
What was excellent was meeting a WW2 veteran who was sitting at a table and allowing passer by’s to speak with him, I could not believe that no-one was talking to him, for someone over 100 years old it was amazing to here his experience in the Pacific during the war. Thank you Steve Ellis and I was humbled to meet you and very nice to talk about life!
I did not spend enough time in the museum as there is so much to see but did enjoy the experience.
Do go! it’s a journey into the freedoms we have today and good for all to learn from!

You could spend hours here. It has a great overview and as much detail as you would like regarding the challenge and the effect on the lives and losses suffered during the war. I appreciated it did not glorify combat but illustrated its reality and how the foot soldiers and sailors made a difference. It is a piece of history we should recognize for its effect and how democracy prevailed and needs to be fought for,

As a history buff this was right up my alley. Well laid out in a timeline. Nice touches with the Personal Stories along the way. Nice exhibits however there are some grammatical and historical errors. Would recommend this to everyone especial families with children, teach them why and how they have the freedoms they enjoy.

We took my 3yr old and 6yr old daughters. Per a local recommendation, we got tickets for the 4D Beyond All Boundaries movie.
From what I saw there were very few children that young at the movie, which runs about 45min. I was pleasantly surprised how well both my kids stayed interested throughout the movie and remembered what occurred several days later (particularly the 6yr old). If you have children that young, I would recommend adding the 4D movie.
The museum can get fairly crowded, some spaces I think could have been made a little larger to help with flow.
My daughters' favorite part of the museum was a stand where they had items you could handle including helmets and non-functional grenades.
We did get chastised by some lady (not staff, just a visitor) for going through the Holocaust section with young kids, but both of them handled it very well and I would do it again without reservation.
I quizzed my 6yr old on WW2 history at the end of day and she got 7 of 12 right, which I am happy with. A couple days later and she still seems to be retaining it.
While the subject manner is not explicitly "kid friendly", my kids handled the whole museum very well and I would recommend to other parents.

The National World War II Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in history. It offers something for everyone, from families looking for a fun outing to individuals seeking a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by our veterans. The museum's film is particularly moving and puts the events of the war into perspective. Take a break and enjoy a meal at one of the two on-site restaurants, and plan to spend at least two hours exploring the museum's vast collection. Trust us, you won't regret it.

Wow!!! What a museum!!! An absolute must to go and see while in New Orleans!!! Hanks and Spielberg did a great job with this!!

The museum is huge is very well designed, even without speaking fluent English (because everything is in English) we loved it. For once, a museum very original in its design. It is recommended

Amazing amount of information. Interactive. Volunteers were super. We had an educational experience that added to our knowledge. It was nice to have the restaurant available. We had great crawfish corn bisque and burger.

This museum is an important one and my sense is that many visitors to New Orleans do not know it exists (or they did not know before their visit that this spectacular museum is in New Orleans. It is massive and one needs to decide how much to view or to buy a two-day ticket, depending on one's interest. The opening presentation, narrated by Tom Hanks, is excellent and one should try to view it, although there is an extra charge.

First, believe what you hear: you cannot complete this museum in one day. Admittedly I view every exhibit, but found that even with two days I had to keep pushing. There isn't a poorly done, poorly lit, hard to read, hard to hear exhibit in the the six buildings. From causes of the war, to battles, to the home front, to wars' aftermath - its all included. You get both the general over-arching picture, then personal vignettes that make it so much more than concepts and grand schemes. None of the exhibits is too low for elderly, too long to miss driving home a point, or distracting from other museum goers. By all means view the extra movies and sub presentation, the latter was probably the weakest element in the two days. Still, informative with what is written on the walls and spoken by the docent.

The National WWll Museum in New Orleans, LA is a national treasure that should be on everyone's "bucket list" to visit with one caveat. The museum is not a one-day see-all visit because of all that the museum has to offer. There are 6 Pavilions, a 4D journey entitled Beyond All Boundaries showing in Pavilion #2, "real" Aircraft viewing on catwalks in Pavilion #5, the multimedia experience in the Priddy Family Foundation Freedom Theater in the Liberation Pavilion #4 and so much more. There is the Dog-Tag and the Train Car experience in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion #1. The Road to Berlin & Road to Toyko Theater Galleries in the Campaigns of Courage Pavilion #3 and I have barely touched the surface. I mentioned these exhibits to say that a one-day see-all visit is not fair to you experiencing the museum or the museum for all that it can offer to you. Please make the pledge to slow down, maybe only commit to a couple of pavilions or schedule to come back another time when in New Orleans...again.
PS Don't forget the nighttime sound & light experience Expressions of America on the Col. Barksdale Parade Ground it's incredible.

This is the ultimate history lesson. No crowd on Tuesday Sept 30th. Admission was $39.00 for a senior/veteran. Spent the day and couldn't see it all. Very clean and easy to navigate. Staff was mostly volunteers and extremely helpful. Atmosphere was almost reverent. Great place to take students.

It was nice to see information but I wish they had a dedicated space for African Americans who served. They suffered not only for serving our country but also suffered due to discrimination

6 buildings to your. We chose Self-guided at our own pace which was fine. So much to see, some areas are interactive for more in-depth experience. Scan a dog tag (free) on the initial tour start to be assigned a service member in history and get addl information on that person’s war contribution throughout the tour. Impressive collection of authentic items, real film footage and a very humbling experience. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes! Lots to see!

I was very impressed with the quality of the exhibits. Though I found the dog tags and train experience a little hokey (and made me worry that this was going to be a radically dumbed down commercial history lesson), I found the vast bulk of the exhibits to be informative, easy to follow and often moving. I particularly recommend spending time in the exhibits on DDay, the Road to Berlin, and the Holocaust. The film of interviews with concentration camp survivors and their liberators was beautifully done and brought me to tears.

The museum is a treasure. So much there to see. Loved the audio rememberences by vets. It was so much more than I expected. Wish I had a 2nd day to see it all

The museum is extremely well laid out, with helpful docents, informative and innovative exhibits. The movies were a great way to sum up all that was learned. Plan on at least a full day here if it interests you.

Really great museum with a lot of excellent artifacts. My favorite exhibits were the hall with all the airplanes and the Monuments Men exhibit. The airplanes were so cool, because there were walkways where you could be above the planes. I appreciated the breadth of the information available. Also, know that there are different gift shops throughout the campus and some carry different things.

We did the basic ticket. We enjoyed our tour. I felt the map in the pamphlet could be better. Signage could be better. We were often confused on where to go next and how to get there. There were plenty of signs for the exhibits that cost extra but not clear signage for how to flow easily from one building to the next. There is so much information. It is very informative. We enjoyed the videos in each section. The gift shop is grossly overpriced.

We enjoyed our visit so very much and all the exhibits. Definitely recommend to watch a showing of Beyond All Boundaries.

Wonderful exhibits supported by friendly and informative staff.
I was very taken by the Boeing planes on display.
This is a must do trip.

This place is amazing. The amount of information. The way the exhibits are put together to give a sense of the locations they are talking about. The detail. The maintenance. The volunteers. The breath of knowledge. It was all superior. We bought 2-day passes including Beyond all Boundaries and Freedom Theater. We also enjoyed Dinner with a Curator. Everything exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful time.
There are plenty of chances to have a seat and you can take everything in at your own pace. But wear sneakers! The place is huge and the floors are all hard surfaces.

This exhibition is a must see if you’re in New Orleans. A wonderful learning experience for all ages. The attentiveness to historical events and individuals was well documented. We cannot forget!

You can easily spend a day in here. I learned so much about the War beyond the parts that usually dominate the narrative. I appreciate that their illustration of the lead-up to the war includes the Japanese invasion of China, since most Americans focus on the war in Europe.

This film was very educational and well-presented. Having grown up with a father who was a Marine fighter pilot in the Pacific, I enjoyed seeing some of the places he talked about my whole life.

Best WWII museum l’ve been to and I have visited a few in my lifetime. If you are into military history and planning to visit New Orleans add this to your list of places to go.
There are a lot of great places to visit in the area so don’t just stay in the French Quarter.

This is a Museum that every American must visit. You need to spend at least 2 full days there. The experience is amazing and well worth the visit and the time. Even if you study WW2, I assure you that you will find something interesting and new. They truly were America’s Greatest Generation.

What an impressive museum there is so much to experience. The interviews make you feel as if you are experiencing the events firsthand. It was informative and immersive and our favorite tour during our visit to New Orleans.

The WWII Museum is a must see for everyone visiting New Orleans. I would recommend arriving early to see all 6 exhibits on this very spacious large campus. My wife and I found it very moving, especially the Liberation Pavilion. Buy tickets for the Victory Theater it is well worth it. After spending 4 hours of our day there it was nice that there were restaurants on site to get an early dinner.

This is an amazing musuem. One could spend the entire day there. We spent 4 hours and plan on returning. Did walk through entire museum but to get best experience I would take entire day. Also ate lunch there and the shrimp corn chowder was outstanding

This is a must! One of the best attractions in New Orleans! Don’t skip the 4D movie. It helps tie everything together! It’s worth the $. Go early in the day so you have plenty of time to explore. I did not realize it closed at 5 PM so we were in a rush. The volunteers are very helpful. Plan to spend at least three hours if not more there.

We spent 5 hours touring 5 of the 6 exhibit halls. You really need two days here to take in everything. Incredibly powerful displays including videos, artifacts, and first hand accounts. The 4-D movie, that was produced and narrated by Tom Hanks, was powerful and well worth the extra money we spent. We ate at the sitdown restaurant there and had a delicious meal. All the employees and volunteers were so helpful. They were always pointing out extra tidbits and things we would want to see. It is a lot of walking and standing so be prepared for that. Some of the exhibits are also emotionally triggering and difficult, especially if you have family members who served or lived through World War II.

Simply outstanding experience! We were here 9 years ago and back for the first time since then, and the place has expanded and grown tremendously, with new galleries and exhibits. If you are interested in all things WWII, this is a can't-miss museum!

Our friends suggested that we spend the entire day here, as they only got in a half-day and did not finish what they all wanted to see. The location is walkable from our hotel just off of Canal Street in the French Quarter. It is in a safe walking area. The complex consists of seven buildings, we started in the main building shortly after opening hours so the ticket line queue was very short.
We rode the "train" to start, where you pick up a dog tag of a real soldier. After that, you go through a well planned journey. The Road to Berlin, Road to Tokyo. So many exhibits with real objects from the wars. The actual film footages can be very overwhelming. It really reminded us the cruelty of war and sacrifices for freedom. The US Freedom Pavilion Boeing Center displayed many aircrafts and a USS Tang submarine experience (a bit silly, in our opinion)
The seventh building had a Higgins PT boat that is still in operable condition!! It was very exciting to see something like that with a staff that you could ask questions. We took a lunch break in the American Sector restaurant (a separate review), it was perfect.
If we had another day in New Orleans, the visit would be a two-day journey. One could not possibly read and spend the time with each display/exhibit in just a single day.
Very well done and organized. Everyone should experience this museum, hopefully take home that war is just an awful way to resolve conflicts, but for all the courageous soldiers that fought for our freedom >>>> what sacrifice they made and we are very grateful that they did the right thing.

Love this museum! So, interesting. We spent most of the day and still didn't get to see it all. I would love to go back again. We just didn't have enough time. Recommend to everyone to visit!

An incredible tribute to all our exceptional WW2 veterans. They were willing to give their life for America’s freedom. 😥

Best museum in the U.S. It will give you insights into the lead up to the war, war abroad and at home, and the implications of the war. You will learn who the major figures were and hear the stories of average people. The displays are so well done and there is audio and video, too. We spent 5 hours and felt that we didn't cover it all.

A WWII museum in New Orleans may seem unexpected, but by the end of your visit, you will understand why the museum is here and so much more. The museum was engaging, informative, and expansive. I spent about three hours there, but I’m sure you could spend a whole day there if you really wanted to see everything. The 4D movie was very well done and very emotional - I definitely recommend adding it to your ticket. I absolutely suggest adding this museum onto your New Orleans visit. My only “complaint” is that the gift shops spread throughout the campus felt a little small compared to the rest of the museum, but that’s super nitpicky of me!

This is a must see museum for every American. Great detail and explanation of events leading up to, during, and after WW II. Excellent intro by Tom Hanks and many videos throughout plus the 4D presentation. On entering, you collect a dog tag and you follow that person throughout the war. Additionally, there are many oral stories by actual people which they either wrote or was recovered in their writings to family. Just amazing!

Could spend all day here and not see it all. Definitely worth the price. We did not watch either theatre show just our choice. Really so much to take in.

We've been here twice, and this time we spent 2 days. Still more to see. Absolutely one of the best museums we've been to. We like history, and read a lot about WWII, so it's an interest area--this museum makes all of that come alive. Covers this important part of our history in such a complete way from various aspects--the battles and strategy, the back home experience, the post-war events, stories from those who lived it, and all in such a compelling, multimedia approach. Don't miss it! And get the 2nd day--you'll need it.

One of the best museums I have ever been in. You can gain a wealth of knowledge from information in the museum. If you are in or near New Orleans it is a must visit.

This museum lived up to everything I heard about it. So informative and thought provoking. I thought I knew a lot about World War 2 but I really didn't. I had heard people say they spent 3, 4 hours there and thought they must have exaggerated. But we spent nearly that amount of time there. Just listening to and watching the videos was time well spent. I am not even sure I saw all of what was there. Guess I will have to go back some day!

We thought we would stop here for a half hour and then be on our way. We ended up spending four hours here and still wanted more. I recommend going here very highly. It’s so well curated and chock full of fascinating exhibits and historical facts. The past really comes alive here. It’s a must-see for people of all ages.

We only had time to look at the Road to Tokyo and Road to Berlin areas but those areas were very well done. My father-in-law had been in the Pacific but we didn’t know much about that front. The displays and the videos brought it to life. It’s amazing that men who fought there were able to readjust to civilian life after the war.
We also were impressed with the variety of ways people contributed—the Merchant marine services and the Seabees (construction) were new to us. Many African-Americans served that way and their contributions were overlooked.
We’ll come back to explore the rest of the museum and we’ll allocate enough time to explore all of it.

This is the best historic museum I have ever visited. The exhibits are respectful, inspiring, and informative. Do not miss this museum. We must never forget this war and why we fought so hard for freedom here and around the world.

We spent 6 hours at this fantastic museum. Make sure to get tickets for Beyond all Boundaries. We learned about the USS Tang. We saw the types of planes that were used during the war. We saw a recreation of the living quarters of Anne Frank. We were brought to tears by the pictures of the German concentration camps. Our biggest regret was that we should have arrived earlier so that we could have seen more. As for food, there are a variety of snack places in the complex.

We went while we were on our 24 day bus trip to the deep south with Nagel Bus Tours.I highly recommend this trip .The volunters were very knowledgeable and the areas were very well laid out .You could spend 3 to 4 days just seeing everything .We only had time for two halls. The information that we got was great. This is a great experience to see again and again.THis is a five star tour

This was an amazing visit. It was Not super
Crowded during our visit. Plenty to see and do during your interactive visit. They have cool Cards that they called “dog tags” and that allow you to pick a person that you want to follow through their journey in the war. It is a large location with multiple buildings and you could easily spend 3 to 4 hours in there. Everyone was very friendly. We can think of nothing negative from the experience. Just go, enjoy yourself, and be prepared to spend multiple hours there to really take it all in. I am not much of a history buff, but I thoroughly enjoyed learning about everything. Must See!!!!!

Amazingly well done. The exhibits are thoughtful, factual and bring to light several points most people will not have thought about. A must see!

Wonderful museum… large place that will take a few hours to see. A great museum..
A Must visit place!!!
While you are there take a break and go to the restaurant in the museum… incredible food..
Not your regular cafeteria junk you find at museums.. really good food. My wife had the best Shrimp Poor Boy. Plus full bar and amazing staff..

I am 74 years old, from the USA and I learned so much from this museum that I didn't know and had never heard of in my life. I loved all of the displays of how the different countries tricked Germany during the war to bring the war to an end. I wish that all high school students in the United States would be taught history in this way. I believe they would understand our country better and would be more patriotic. Please visit this museum! This was a real treat for my family.

We knew we'd enjoy visiting the museum, but our guild made it even more interesting. Mike is a walking book of knowledge. The stories he told that you can only hear from a guide were fascinating.

It was an amazing visit! The interactive displays and video clips were extremely interesting! We had a great time learning about more of the heroes of WWII!

Absolutely phenomenal museum. It’s so huge and detailed, brings to life WWII. Will need to come back to see more galleries.

Amazing museum with a variety of activities that brings WWII alive. There are several different buildings to explore so be prepared to walk a good distance. Elevators are available close to there beginning of every exhibit. I wish I had more time to explore.

For the museum I recommend using the general option and the next day you pay the $11 for the visit of the second day , the museum is very interesting but very large you do not reach in an afternoon (I was from 11am until the closing of the museum). She carries bottles of water and I went with my two middle-aged children and they loved it. Take the ferry that leaves you five minutes from the super safe place.

I was impressed with the museum which is in a half-dozen modern, interconnected, buildings. Its strength is in the A/V presentations and dioramas -- I particularly liked the South Pacific Island room. The collection of hardware was sparse: A dozen or so planes, but not a single tank, for instance. The big failing was the lack of useful maps or signage. The layout is *very* complicated (pretty much nothing is rectangular) and almost entirely unlabeled. The map provided shows the buildings, but nothing of their insides. Still, definitely worth it.

Amazing experience. So much history in one place and a great tribute honoring WW2. You could spend all day here. Loved the film narrated by Tom Hank’s. Head to Bear Cat BCD for breakfast before your day to fuel all day at the museum.

3 hours was not enough time to enjoy the museum! I would say 4 hours minimum to see the exhibits let only enjoy reading the information. Yes, I would go again on a date LOL

Tonight we came to see the Victory Belles who were great.
But it was also a big American Legion event night.
The Boeing hall was packed with American Legionairs from around the country.
The Belles sang and danced terrifically!
The rest of this great museum is not to be missed, plan multiple days to see it all.

Came here as it is advertised as the most visited venue in NO. We weren’t disappointed, very well put together exhibition , excellent displays and story telling and we also went into the 4D theatre for the film display narrated by Tom Hanks. Highly recommend a visit here and spend the whole day

Friends had told us we would need a day and they were right. It's an incredible venue and we are lucky to have it in the United States. Our Lyft driver told us about how it came to be and we are so glad to have seen it. It is a must!

This museum is not to be missed. Very tastefully done and so informative. The theatre add-ons are a must if you have time. We spent 6 hours and did not see it all. Give yourself lots of time. Definitely one of the best museums we have visited.

This was an amazing experience for anyone who wants to appreciate world history. Including the stories of the Black, Japanese, and Indigenous American peoples and soldiers was important, as these are often underrepresented. Following “your” soldier’s history added a personal connection, enhancing our experience as visitors from Canada.
The whole visit was overwhelming, in both senses: a lot of information to absorb , a lot of space to cover, and sometimes a challenge to navigate, but absolutely worth the time and energy!

I really enjoyed the museum. There were several interactive displays and I especially enjoyed the dog tag interaction and learning about a specific persons experience. The display of weapons and machinery from tanks to planes was exciting to see. Definitely will come back!

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? We spend about 3 hours here but you can easily do a day or more. If you only have half a day or so I’d suggest taking the time for the 4D movie and make sure you visit the pacific and European theaters exhibits. We did the DDay museum section first since we had about an hour before our showtime. If you get there with enough time before the showing it’s a great way to spend some time.

Amazing museum. Stories are amazing done so you can follow along. The displays are awesome and descriptions are well done! If parking at the museum parking deck, remember to take your ticket for parking with you , you have to pay on first floor before you go back to your car.

If you aren't inspired, there's something wrong with you. Exhibits are finely crafted, immersive but not overwhelming. We spend the morning just doing march to Berlin and Tokyo. You can easily spend more than one full day seeing everything.

Very comprehensive museum showcasing the individual battles of WWII, along with models of planes and tanks. Lots of walking in a big area. There are elevators. You start your tour on a “train” trip. You select a card and after you scan it, you get a name of a soldier and you scan it at other displays and hear his story. Nice items in the gift shop too.

Amazing! So much black and white film footage from WW II with commentary, often as broadcasted at the time. Full size displays of battle conditions. Full size airplanes suspended from ceiling.

This place was awesome! Some of the best displays and film clips I have seen in a museum. If you are instested in WWII GO! Very informative and interestng for start to finish. Getting to hear the stories from the brave men and women that served is an increadable experince.

Who knew that NOLA had such a great place
The places is big with 4 buildings and you need at least 4 hours to see it
You could easily spend a full day here
We enjoyed it so much

You start out in a train car. Don't forgot to get a dog tag before you enter, you will need one. There is a volunteer inside that will hand you one if you forget. Then you proceed into the museum. Another pointer look at the brochure, and layout. We missed building #5. They way the museum is structured is very informative and enriching. The dog tag is used throughout in certain places. You follow your person through the war. We enjoyed the museum and learning so much. There were things we didn't know. We didn't do the movies, when we go back to New Orleans we plan on attending.

A group of us UK veterans visited and spent 6 hours and couldn’t possibly see it all. One of the very best museums we have been to (and we have been to a few) Lovely Bar/Restaurant to use in the middle. We got the veteran discount as well. Highly recommend…. and don’t forget the nearby buildings and exhibits that are full of great stuff.

What can you say, but wow! So much to see and learn here. There is so much you just didn't know what happened before and after the war. Artifacts are totally cool. You are going to need at least 3-4hrs to see it all there is so much.

Husband had this on his bucket list and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed all of the exhibits, very informative. Loved the planes.

I hate to say it, but I was very disappointed with my trip to the WWII museum. I went there about ten years ago and loved it. So much so that I wanted to go back and see it again. But in the interim, much has changed. Let me be clear, I absolutely support the idea that our history should be presented. The fact that African Americans were, with only rare exceptions, not allowed to serve should be presented clearly. The travesty of incarceration of thousands of Americans of Japanese descent, should be shown in all its injustice. But...when the focus of the museum becomes the display of these areas of social justice rather than the half million lives that were given for freedom, then the museum no longer serves its purpose. When the people who defeated Hitler and overthrew Mussolini, Hirohito and Tojo are presented as racist bigots rather than the people who saved the world for freedom, the pendulum has swung too far.

We visited this Museum and spent 4+ hours visiting one exhibit in Building One, the Pacific war in Building 3 and the airplanes in another building. We were fascinated and learned so much. We loved the museum so much that we returned for a second day (admission fee is reduced to $15 for Day #2). We toured the European War in Building 3, viewed the Tom Hanks' movie, had an incredible lunch at the American Sector retaurant (order the salad with berries and peas) and briefly visited the post-war exhibit on the post-war "war crimes" trials.
We were fascinated with every exhibit. There are a variety of movies, personal stories and exhibits that hold your interest at every stage. We were impressed that, in discussing battles, the exhibit candidly admits mistakes made and unanticipated difficulties encountered (eg, malaria, winter temperature of negative 30 without proper winter clothing).
I highly recommend this museum and encourage you to be prepared emotionally.

Worth every penny; the atmosphere between every part of the museum is great and match with the theme, but the jewel of the crown was the Movie on the theatre, 4D and it wasn’t a lie !, highly recommend

An absolutely impressive museum! Very large, perfectly arranged and really immersive. The exhibitions are interactive, well explained and we dive completely into the history of the Second World War. Allow at least 3 to 4 hours to take full advantage.
A must-see if you are in New Orleans!

Fabulous museum! We did two full days going through the museum and enjoyed every moment. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We did have a light breakfast in the Soda Shop both days and lunch in the American Sector Restaurant. Across the street at the Higgins Hotel, we had dinner one night at Cafe Normandie (so-so), but dessert was great!

Fantastic Museum and a fitting tribute to the World War II greatest generation. Learned a lot, but needed more than 2 hrs

This was a bit disappointing, if I'm honest. Admittedly, I know a great deal about the subject, but as a teaching tool for history, this museum failed pretty miserably. First of all, it's so focused on the United States that it ignores the totality of the war. It was nice to see some of the vehicles and equipment, but otherwise it was mostly just war stories, glorifying the American role in the war.

AMAZING museum; I’ve been to MANY in my almost 50 years, and this was by far one of the best. Wonderful exhibits and helpful staff, we spent far longer here than we expected to. Don’t want to give anything away as it’s such a special experience, but I’d urge everyone to go if they’re remotely interested in the Second World War.

A must see when in New Orleans. Wonderful to see a tribute to those who fought in WWII and their families. Plan to spend at least 3 hours to be able to take it all in.

It has been a few years since I visited the museum, it has sure changed and for the better. They have added so much more to experience. There are now sections regarding the war crimes trials and the holocaust. The museum still tells the story of the roads to victory in Europe and the Pacific but perhaps in a different context. This museum is a most see if you visit NOLA.

Highly recommend would do it again. Could have spent all day there. So much to see and take in. The movie is worth the watch.

A must-see for any serious history buff. It's a remarkable exhibit and definitely worth a visit.
However, I was disappointed that noticeably missing was the inclusion of the history of the internment of the Aleuts on the Aleutian chain of Alaska. The forced relocation of the Aleut people during WWII is a critical, yet often overlooked, chapter in American history. Their story highlights the impact of wartime on marginalized communities and raises important questions about civil liberties. The absence of this crucial piece of history leaves a significant gap in the museum's narrative.
Despite the omission, I highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in learning about WWII, while also encouraging the museum to strive for even greater historical completeness.

It is an excellent and sobering exhibit of our country's role in WW 2. The museum covers so much more than just Normandy and Pearl Harbor. Starting with the Tom Hanks narrated film and ending with a PT boat display, a break for lunch was needed to complete the visit.

Absolutely amazing! The exhibits are so eloquently done, with comprehensive information leading up to and ending WW2. Beautiful pictures, fabulous artifacts and narratives. You should allow at a minimum, 2 hours but could spend much longer.

We booked the new Highlights Guided Tour. WOW! What an amazing way to visit the WWII Museum! Clint was an incredible fountain of knowledge. He literally talked almost non-stop for 2 hours straight about so many aspects of WWII. He offered just the right level of information that helped us to grasp the full scale of the war as well as learn some of the smaller details about how life changed in the US in order to support the war or what it was like to be a POW. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the museum's American Sector restaurant. The caesar salad with anchovies and fried oysters was delicious as was the Bomber Burger. We finished our visit with the the Beyond Boundaries 4-D film narrated by Tom Hanks. We spent a total of 4 hours at the museum and could have easily spent a couple more. I only wish we could have timed our visit to coincide with a performance by the Victory Belles. Spectactular museum, beautiful buildings. Definitely well worth the guided tour and admission fee. WWII history buffs should plan on a full day or 2-day visit.

This is a must see while in New Orleans. Whether you are a WWII buff, have WWII connections, or are interested in military or modern European history, you will not be disappointed in this museum. I first visited the museum in 2014 and the museum has expanded and included new and fascinating exhibits since then. The exhibits along with the 4D film tell the remarkable story of WWII and the American service personnel who gave of themselves for our country and for us. Please make it a mission to visit this place while in New Orleans.

I could have stayed here all day but due to time constraints only had three hours. This is an excellent tribute to the war. The video with Tom Hanks is worth the extra cost. The museum had oodles of volunteers, many who came annually to assist visitors. The passion in this place is palpable.

This tour was so moving! From the train ride and dog tags to the WASPS and Code Talkers, I could have stayed all day!! There’s even an authentic bomber plane hanging from the ceiling!! The water machine gun in the jungle section was really scary, even though I knew it wasn’t real. We can’t control how our bodies respond when you’re faced with an actual weapon!
This attraction is so jam packed I believe you need two days to experience it fully. So plan for two days with your grandpa AND the kids! This museum is perfect for school age children, veterans, families and anybody who really appreciates history.
The VOLUNTEER staff is amazing and so very helpful to every visitor! I am disabled in a wheelchair and had an amazing time! I highly recommend for the disabled crowd looking for an easy place to visit.

Recommended if you are in New Orleans! It's an excellent museum and I only wish we had more time there.
My only comment (hence the 4* - not 5* rating) was that as visitor from the UK there was some, but little mention that WW2 started in 1939, and the US only joined in after Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
So it's missing some context, verging on a little disingenuous, as Britain (and its commonwealth / European allies) had single handily brought the Nazi Germany advance to a halt, not to mention the bombing and destruction of many British cities and towns and the 70,000, civilians killed largely due to German bombing raids during the Blitz (40,000 civilians died in the seven-month period between September 1940 and May 1941, almost half of them in London).
As a history of the US involvement in WW2 it's excellent, and we learnt a lot about the lead-up to the Pacific Campaign which we are taught little about in School (other than the dropping of the bomb(s)).

Incredible. Must Do. For the history buff or the casual tourist there is something for everybody. I did 1.5 days and could still have used a bit more time. From Pre War to Post War and everything in between.

Such an informative and engaging museum! All Staff were courteous and provided excellent customer service! We did a tour with Kathryn and it was amazing. She shared such insight about WW II. Very educational indeed. The Higgins Hotel is a great place to stay. Area and on-site restaurants were awesome; wait staff was great; food was delicious. We became members of the WW II Memorial during our stay based on our experience at the museum. Would highly recommend visiting the Memorial. We cannot wait to go back!

This place is amazing and totally worth a trip to. Very, very, very well done. Friendly staff. It can get very sad and depressing at times so use your discretion with children and people who can deeply moved by these events. We spent 4 hours there and could not see the whole thing. You can easily spend all day at this museum. My only recommendation would be a better map or guide through the museum. A few times, we got a bit lost. Otherwise, this place is totally worth it.

Great museum. Wonderful "don't miss" film - Beyond All Borders. Lots to see so plan a full day - or at least 4 hours there. Not much food selection in the museum itself, but restaurants around it. A must visit when you are in New Orleans.

If you’re a WWII history buff or know someone who fought in the war, this is a must see. We could have spent an entire day there. One of the best museums we’ve been ti

World class museum. It looks at WWII from all different angles. Each section is curated to look like a different country. I suggest takng the tour. The movie was my favorite part.

This is a truly wonderful museum, but it is far too big to cover in one day, so you have to pick and choose if your time is limited. I found the family itinerary on the website very helpful in planning our day. We went with our 11 year old child, and she is quite interested in history, so we probably spent about 4 hours there. In addition to taking in several well-done exhibits, we saw Beyond All Boundaries , the 4D cinematic experience. It has some startling noises and intense content, so parents should judge the appropriateness for their children. We also did the New Freedom Theater experience. The museum is clearly puts the US in the most positive light possible, and, as a history teacher, I would have liked to have seen a more nuanced discussion of topics such as dropping the A-bombs and other topics. But overall, the museum provides excellent insight to the most important event of the 20th Century.

This place should be the #1 thing to see in NOLA!
As we live our lives day to day, we forget what we learned in high school history class about WWII and the incredible sacrifices that were made to provide us with the quality of life and freedoms that we enjoy today.
This place is a great reminder that tells the history in a pithy and accurate manner.
God bless America and God bless the greatest generation! 🇺🇸

Amazing museum. So much history. The visuals just enhanced the experience Food at the cafe was also very good. Main reason I travelled to New Orleans and it did not disappoint as a historian I can recommend it 100%

It was a bit pricey at almost $37 per person, but my husband and I spent four hours there and thoroughly enjoyed it. The museum is both emotional and informative—offering a powerful look into the history of World War II. You don’t realize how much was involved until you see it all presented in one place.
There are excellent interactive exhibits throughout, which really bring the stories to life. We especially appreciated the powerful video testimonies from survivors—they add a deeply personal and moving layer to the experience.
We visited New Orleans with our kids many years ago but skipped this museum because of the cost. Now I wish we had brought them. It’s a meaningful and unforgettable experience that’s well worth the price.

Super museum. I am fairly knowledgeable on WWII but learned things about public sentiment towards entering the war and stats on size of military as we entered the war.
The 4D Tom Hanks show was impressive.

This museum is a must when visiting the city. Any and all information regarding America’s involvement in the Second World War can be found here. Its 7 building campus has something for everyone. If you go when they have WWII veterans there, it makes the visit that much more meaningful. Go see the Tom Hanks film “Beyond All Boundaries” while visiting, worth the extra add on!

My grandchildren wanted to visit the museum, they heard about their great-grandfathers that served during the war. For the most part they were mesmerized by what they saw, everything from the youngest (14 yrs old) to the oldest (21 years old), I realized just how little they are being taught or have been taught about this period of US history. Sad, I hope someday this will be a serious subject again.

An overwhelming experience of the realities of World War II. This museum takes more than one visit to get through the entire museum.

This is an amazing museum. We spent an entire day in it, and you could easily spend two days there to see and read everything.

This museum is HUGE. It has so much to learn and is so detailed. It gets people involved too so they can follow themselves through each exhibit. This is such a fantastic museum. It is 100% worth it. Seriously go!

Large scale interactive experience spread over a number of buildings. We experienced the freedom theatre too which was an exhilarating visual display including spinning theatre floor giving it a grandiose feel.

Beautiful museum with a good overview of WW2 and among other things the impact it had on America. Good hospitality facility available.

This is a must do when visiting NOLA! Easily a highlight of our trip. The museum and exhibits are very detailed and thought out. We signed up for the 2pm highlights tour and it was so worth it, the unique stories we heard were amazing. The tour brought you through the “highlights” of each exhibit and was super helpful. You could really spend all day there, including the 2 hour tour we were there from 1-5pm.

Wonderful museum. The 4D show is worth the slight extra expense. This place is huge, it really is an all day experience (and well worth your time). One of the best museums I have ever been to.

I had an excellent time. The exhibits were very informative. I will need to return and spend more time there to do it justice.

This is a must see when in New Orleans. It is massive so plan on spending a good portion of your day here. Some very emotional and heart wrenching areas. The movie narrated by Tom Hanks was excellent. So happy we got to see this.

Can't really add much more than other reviews, but my family, which includes my teen who has a strong interest in WWII, thoroughly enjoyed everything about the museum. The interactive exhibits, artifacts, film/video/audio segments, the Beyond Boundaries movie, personal stories, etc. made this an unforgettable experience. As others have mentioned, we really should have planned for two days. While we made it through all the exhibits in the 7.5 hrs we were there, we didn't view every video or read every placard. The individual stories truly made history come alive.

My Husband and I purchased a day pass and spent 3 hours going through the museum. There was so much to see that we bought a pass for a second day which was only $15. Again, we spent 3 hours. The museum is very well done. There are videos of events that took place along with videos of personal stories. There is also a section dedicated to Anne Frank and the Holocaust which was very well done too.

Museum is fabulous. However, when purchasing tix it would be helpful if you let folks know the museum is FREE on saturdays. Now i'm hoping i get a refund...with no response from you after several days. If i'm unable to accomplish this, i can assure you that you won't hear from me again. Thanks.

I fell in love with the museum and its entire structure, there are several pavilions with themes explaining in detail the events of the war and the various countries involved, the rooms and wings have screens explaining the events of the war.
The United States, which was in neutrality impresses by its strategies in the war, since it had the least effective of forces to be in the war, the arsenal is quite large of weapons, clothing and parts in general. It has a replica of the house of the time, souvenirs shop and a restaurant. The place has elevators to facilitate access to those who cannot or like stairs. Everyone is very courteous and kind, another detail that I liked very much are the walkways around the complex that are made of bricks with the names of all the participants in the war , i.e., a beautiful memorial , has also tribute to the simplest who had acts of bravery even though they were simple soldiers.
The museum also assembled memories of the American Japanese who had to fight alongside the Americans, has the memorial for the Jews and even several rooms talking about the Germans and their machinery and tactics. Finally... it is a very interesting tour, if you don't speak English you can pick up at the entrance a flyer in your language, I'm sure that if you as much as I love history ...you will like this place a lot.

The museum is an amazing experience- the interactive exhibits, the films, the stage settings for the exhibits, the artifacts are beyond what most museums offer. the architect is not given credit here! I had to ask people at the front desk. It is Vorrsanger of New York. The building is made of several buildings arranged around a central courtyard called the Parade ground. The restaurant had great food for lunch. Service surly however.

Great museum. So much information. A little difficult to maneuver between areas. Only negative is parking. We had a van and were able to park in regular lot. I don't know where RVs park.

We recommend the introductory two hour tour that brings you through the entire museum, showing highlights of each exhibit area. You could spend days there if you go back and concentrate on different exhibits. Overall extremely well done tasteful, informative, educational, and entertaining. Our tour guide Amie was very informative And made sure nobody got lost.

We did the combo package - 2 movies and admission. Was it worth it? If you're there for more than 3 hours, yes. You'll get tired of walking around and reading and then you get to rest for 20 minutes for 1 movie and 45 for the other.
If you're short on time, no. Just do the rooms you're most interested in because there are 5 buildings to get through. (The movies do take up 1 1/2 of the buildings though.)
My one son is very interested in WW2 while my husband and other two sons aren't bored by it. I...am not. War just depresses me. My daughter isn't either. Both of us found plenty of things to interest us in the museum to make the cost worthwhile. Of course, we were very depressed about everything at the end of the day too!

This might be one of the best thought-out and laid-out museums I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. Spanning SEVEN buildings, there is so much care and detail given to the visitor experience here that I could easily see many WWII aficionados would want to take advantage of the multi-day pass. We spent close to five hours here and feel like we could easily have spent the entire day. The volunteers that we spoke to were knowledgable and friendly. The displays were incredibly informative. I appreciated the care taken to integrate personal testimonials from individuals (often local to New Orleans or Louisiana) to help ground the visitor in the experience. The films were well-done (though we could have passed on the faux submarine "interactive" experience). I did, however, love the lobby of one building where you watched a short film about a battle or event in the war and then voted on what your decision would be if you had been in charge before it went on to share voting results and what the ultimate decision was—a great way to get everyone but especially young people engaged. We spent a lot of time gawking at the planes and marveling at the structural engineering to have those suspended from the ceiling. It was great to see so many authentic vehicles, including a tank and a torpedo boat.
This was my third visit to New Orleans and I can't believe I only just visited this museum. The tickets are pricey but worth it, so I'd definitely recommend this if you have any interest in World War II or American history. (And Cochon Butcher is only a few blocks away if you need a lunch break beyond the cafe in the museum.) They also have a cafe and gift shop, along with lockers (both large and regular sized) if you want to stash a heavy bag. Absolutely worth it, just give yourself enough time (half a day at least, but consider budgeting the whole day) to take advantage of everything.

My husband and I spent a day at the museum to wrap up a New Orleans trip. I can’t say enough about the quality f the experience. While all the exhibits we had time to see were outstanding, the sections detailing the war in the Pacific and in Europe were absolutely stellar. I was especially impressed with the balance among written information, exhibits featuring physical artifacts, and short films summarizing the various campaigns and events. The staging enhanced the experience—for example, snow falling among splintered trees as explosions flashed during the Battle of the Bulge, or having the opportunity to walk through a salt mine as you learned about the Monuments Men and Women recovering hidden artwork stolen by the Nazis. The volume of information was incredible but in no way overwhelming. The 4D Beyond All Boundaries film experience was outstanding— I’d recommend starting your day there if you are able. The ability to follow a real soldier through the war by tapping a dog tag at kiosks throughout the museum is a great extra. We ate lunch at the museum’s American Sector restaurant, which turned out to be a place we would have chosen to eat voluntarily (as opposed to a typical “barely adequate” museum eatery). We wrapped up our visit by visiting Rosie’s Rooftop Bar at the adjoining Higgins Hotel (also strongly recommended). In short, don’t try to see the museum in Les than a day—but definitely do go. It’s stellar.

We planned a little over half a day and wished we had more time. The interactions of dog tag persons whose story we could learn was incredible. Kids really enjoyed and learned a lot.

Fantastic museum, one of the best I've visited. Thought it was going to be like doing homework or eating veggies but it was more like dessert, highly recommend!

Love this place!!!! I love learning about the men and women who fought for our freedom. I’ve learned so much from this museum.
As a proud daughter and mother of sailors, I just want to thank all who served and serving this beautiful country of ours

The museum was well done. We have been to museums in many different countries and this one was as good as as any we have seen.

This was the 2nd time I've visited this museum. My sister and I walked there from our hotel so we didn’t have to worry about parking. We did have an issue with our GoCity pass not scanning in their system, but it was quickly corrected and comped for the day. This museum is huge with so much to see. Yes, it's about a World War, but it focuses more on the American side of the war. The museum is huge already and would be impossible to properly display all the other other countries. I really enjoyed the "train ride" at the beginning, where you were given a card and a person's journey to follow. Several of their displays were exceptionally well done, like the replicated house and the news stand. My only real complaint would be towards the end. One of the volunteers sent us up the elevator to the third floor. Once there, we realized I had an option of stairs or a glassed ramp. Neither I can do due to severe vertigo. I had to go back down the elevator through several rooms to find a volunteer who would actually let me out the other doors so I could walk across the courtyard to the other building just to meet up with my sister. Even still it didn't take away from the experience. I really liked hearing the volunteers talking to other men and women about stories they were told from their parents and other relatives. You could just hear their excitement. If I decide to ever go back to NOLA I would definitely go back to this museum.

This is one of the most innovative, profound, and remarkable museums in the United States.
It is “self guided” which we did not understand at first, but once inside you follow the rooms, sit and watch visual displays and videos, and gain a multi-view perspective of the before, during and after time periods of this war. They touch so many aspects of WWII, are honest about successes and failures, and give you a full picture. I only wish everyone had the opportunity to experience this unbelievable museum. I would go back again. A must see.

Amazing Museum! So well documented. I recommend starting with the tour. The movie was my favorite!
Too much to see in one day.

Absolutely essential visit to fully grasp the role of American soldiers fighting in the Pacific and Europe in World War II. Quality displays of artifacts, maps and videos to understand the battles and conditions the soldiers fought under.

A fantastic museum! Excellent exhibits and presentation of WWII artifacts and memorabilia. The European and Pacific Theaters are designed so that you feel as if you are stepping into those locations. We spent 6 hours in the museum and could have spent several more. We would highly recommend having two days to see this museum.

Excellent museum. We spent 3 hours and only made it through the Pacific Theater and the movie. Highly recommend a second day to see all of it.

The National WWII Museum is a must-visit for history buffs and families alike. With comprehensive and detailed exhibits, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the events of World War II. The layout is simple and easy to navigate, making it accessible for all ages. Whether you're looking to learn more about this pivotal moment in history or simply enjoy a day out with your loved ones, this museum is a fantastic choice.

We were in New Orleans for a few days and heard to check out this museum so we went. I don’t know much about WW2 or not in to it as much but I actually learned a lot from it. We were there from 12-5 and I wish I was there longer or went back another day. Great museum. The rooms were set up and had great themes thruout. Was fun to have your own person to follow thruout and learn about. I loved hearing the videos from the concentration camps and what it was like for them. I only got to see a few rooms from the place. Def need to go back and view more stuff and see the theatre and everything else it has to offer. All the staff there was nice as well. And fun to get pictures afterwards while we were there.

An incredible experience!!!! SO much to see! So many moving experiences!
I have never learned and felt so much about WWII, and we were only able to see part of the museum. If you are in New Orleans, you have to go!!!!

This was my 14-year old grandson's favorite activity. We bought the general admission ticket and spent half a day there during our final day in New Orleans. We should have gone sooner and purchased a multi-day pass. There is so much history to learn, about the impact of multiple wars occurring simultaneously. If we ever visit New Orleans again, we will definitely go early and plan to spend two days there.

I spent this past weekend at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. It was outstanding. 16 hours. No partisan, political messages. Just a massive amount of facts showing how the US and its allies came together and battled from behind to overwhelmingly defeated true evil. Done mostly by citizen soldiers from all walks of life. Despite segregation, the all black units chose to fight for our country and the women jumped in to pick up the slack on the home front....some women even delivered planes and worked undercover as spies. And of course, the nurses.
There was a big crowd and everyone was quietly reading the material, watching the videos with great interest and listening to the powerful first hand accounts from the men and women who were there. The Holocaust exhibit was packed and people's attention was riveted to the testimony of the survivors and soldiers who liberated the camps. And everywhere there seemed to be a quote by General Eisenhower that perfectly fit the situation.
The underlying messages of teamwork, unity and the willingness to fight for what was right were everywhere and by the time you left the museum your outlook was refreshed and you remembered how America came to be the greatest country in the world.
If you are able, you should definitely visit the museum. You don't need to be a WWII fanatic, you don't need to be an American. You simply need to have the desire to understand how we got to where we are today.....it wasn't by accident.

Awesome. WWII. This was huge and I learned much. We hooked on a group tour and the guide was so informative. I’m so proud of my country.

Excellent exhibition of all things related to the war, history, artifacts, films and interactive displays- must see and experience

Possibly the best museum I've ever visited. It's absolutely MASSIVE, and you can spend an entire day or day and a half here if you want to see everything. It is extremely thorough and filled with information and artifacts. The museum also displays things in a realistic type of way, putting you in giant themed rooms made to look like the different locales covered by the info. Even the most anti-museum tourist will enjoy this experience. Cannot recommend enough!

Military history can be fascinating, and no military conflict is greater and more deserving of our attention and education than World War II. Tourists can learn all about this conflict, and America’s involvement in the war, at the National World War 2 Museum, located in New Orleans’ Central Business District.
I went to the National WWII Museum on a Saturday while in New Orleans and it was easily one of the top museums I have ever visited. Your journey begins with a visit to a makeshift train where you are introduced to a person who fought in the war. As you tour the museum, you are given countless opportunities to learn more about the individual you are introduced to on the train, using your dog tag ID.
The personal interaction described above is one of many memorable aspects of the National WWII Museum, but it is far from the only one. This world- class museum offers videos for viewing and engaging exhibits that introduce you and/or refresh your memory on the most important personalities in the war, both on the enemy side and the allied side. The museum takes you from Europe to Japan and beyond, walking you through the past from the German invasion of Poland and the early days of the war, all the way to Hitler’s suicide and the termination of the world’s largest and deadliest conflict.
The National WWII Museum is a large museum, and you can easily spend several hours here and still not take in all the exhibits and educational material. You need to set aside a large amount of time to visit and soak up all the history and knowledge. History buffs will enjoy it the most, but even those with just a small interest in history will like what they see, hear, and learn. It will be an emotional visit for some, especially those who have a friend or family member who fought in the war.
I like visiting museums. The National WWII Museum is one of the very best, and a visit is a must the next time you’re in New Orleans. As I walked through the museum, there were a few points where I was a little unsure if I was going to the correct place, if I skipped an exhibit, if I was following things the correct way so as not to miss anything, etc. A little more certainty in the layout and pathway to follow would be good, but that is about the only issue I had with the National WWII Museum. It’s an excellent history refresher and easily worth taking the time to visit.

Come with your walking shoes laced tight and an expectation to se WW II from absolutely every angle. Nothing is left out. But you are not only led through the stories, history, and memorabilia, the museum also submerges you into the experience of the surroundings for the area. They have left no stone unturned. It is an experience like nothing I have ever been on.

I was not sure what to expect but i was beyond amazed at this museum. It is HUGE!! Me and my brother arrived at 2pm giving us 3 hours to tour the museum but 3 hours was not enough time to go through this museum. If you visit here which i highly recommend if you are in the New Orleans area give yourself at least 4 hours in this museum. So much history and information in here, i was so impressed and really enjoyed my visit.

My wife and daughter and I planned our WWII Museum visit to celebrate my 70th birthday as well as donate my father's WWII service memorabilia (uniform, documents, photos, etc.) from his time spent in the Aleution Islands. The museum had just opened an entirely new "On American Shores" exhibition highlighting the Aleution Campaign so it was doubly exciting.
The museum is an amazing, emotional and engaging tour through the war and, even though we were there all day, we could have spent another day and still not see everything.
The 4-D film "Beyond All Boundaries" was a great way to kick off our visit and it put the conflict in real perspective. I noticed even the high school students sitting around us were quiet and engaged!
Especially moving, of course, was the Anne Frank hiding place recreation and the interactive walk throughs of several of the major battle locations (Battle of the Bulge, etc.)
The museum campus is on par with anything you'll find at the Smithsonian and even offers several welcoming eateries.
All in all it was a fantastic way to spend a day.

I am not a museum person, but this was my second time there. I was there shortly after it opened, and was there till they announced the museum was closing. Very interactive and shows a different side of the War. The 4D film was amazing

I am a WW2 nerd and this museum was top notch! The movie is exceptional and very emotional. The galleries all well documented. The amount of memorabilia and the storytelling is amazing.

Run horribly. We are stuck in town because of the "snow storm". Lots of cars driving around. Sidewalks in sun clear. Museum was opening at noon, so we walked here. They just announced at 11:50 AM that they are closed due to extended icy conditions. It's 40 degrees outside. The 30 people sitting outside waiting to get in to the indoor museum would disagree. Should have announced this early this morning if they planned to be that lame.

I’d give this museum a 10 if I could. Excellent museum. We arrived when it opened at 9, stayed until it closed at 5 and still didn’t see everything. An unbelievable collection of artifacts. Great interactive content. You must see the Beyond All Boundaries film. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Excellent museum. We spent 4 hours there and probably did not see half of it. The stories and videos were quite moving. Loved it!

The National World War II museum is simply one of the greatest museums in the US. It has become one of the major destinations in New Orleans.

Always a fantastic place to spend the day. The 4D film is a great introduction. Also went to the evening "Expressions of America " sound and light sow - excellent.

This museum is amazing. It could easily be a multi day event. God Bless the me. And women who gave their lives defending Freedom.

We found out about this museum from our walking tour guide. He told us how big it was. Even though we only had half a day, we decided to go see what we could see. I'm so glad we did. This is a fantastic museum. We've been to most of the Smithsonian museums, and this ranks right up there. I wish we had more time. In fact, if we go back, I'd split it into 2 days. It's heavy stuff, and we cried at some exhibits. But it's so well presented. We were blown away.

This is one of the best museums that I have been to. So much information and many artifacts along the way. Highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area. Be prepared to spend 4 to 5 hours plus if you are going to read all the information that is posted!

It as very good learning experience took my 11 yr nephew and he has told his friends all about it. It is little confusing getting around but they do have volunteers that he you out if you need it.

Fantastic history through videos and detailed exhibits. It takes 5 hours if you really want to see everything so be prepared

We took the WWII Museum ‘Band of Brothers’ 13-day tour in June, which was our first organized tour ever. We are adept at planning overseas trips, but this one would have been impossible to replicate on our own. It was outstanding in every way. Our team included: logistics manager, Rachel Moore; Band of Brothers actor, Ross McCall (Joe Liebgott); bus driver Stan; and expert local tour guides Andy (UK), Sly (France), plus Edwin (The Netherlands/Luxembourg/Germany/Austria). Every single one of them took their roles seriously, and they all operated seamlessly as a team. They were experts in their respective areas, personable, and engaging. Each demonstrated a strong commitment to veterans, inherent interest in other people, and love of their jobs. The tour kept you busy the entire day exploring different sites as you retrace the steps of Easy Company. There were 2 days of longer bus rides, but with entertainment along the way and plenty of stops to break them up (restroom also on the bus). Hotel choices were excellent, especially Lion D’ Or in Normandy right in the middle of picturesque Bayeux, Chateau Urspelt near Clervaux/Bastogne (try out the cellar bar!), and the Grand Hotel of Zell am See in the Austrian Alps. Food was plentiful, local, and upscale. The tour made for wonderful memories and new friendships!

Very nice museum to honor those who served in WW2. Somebody took a lot of time and money to build it. It's very large. Deserves several hours to walk through all of the displays. The train ride simulation is especially realistic where men from farms and fields of the midwest were rounded up and headed out to defend the USA in WW2. Entry price was a little high but the presentation was worth the cost.

We visited with our two teenagers and they were the right ages to really take in the exhibits and appreciate the information. There is a LOT to see here. You could easily spend two days if you take the time to read everything and watch all of the videos/interactive experiences. Because we were on a short trip, we moved through everything in three hours doing a self-guided tour. We didn’t do the extra ticketed experiences. Honestly that’s probably as much time as our kids were willing to spend in one visit. But we would go back for more in-depth time and the extra experiences. Please visit if you have a chance.

My wife and I went for a few hours. Not enough to cover all of the museum. The building looks like a stylised bunker and looks impressive. We concentrated on the War in the Pacific. The presentation takes you through what happened with a clear guide on strategy and why the war developed as it did. It then drilled down into the detail of the major campaings. The videos were put together really well. Even my wife, who was present to humour me, thought it was excellent. Praise in deed!

Very worthwhile visit. Exhibits are wonderfully done, with lots of videos, first-person narratives and even special effects. I thought I knew a lot about the war, but I learned so much more. Don t miss the 4-D Tom Hanks-narrated movie. You need to allow a full day to see everything. Volunteer greeters are everywhere, and they are friendly and helpful. Special moment for me: finally seeing my father s brick (he served in England and France during WWII, and my mother purchased the brick as a memorial to his service).

The WW II museum was the mast pleasant surprise in NOLA. What an unexpected jewel in the heart of the big easy. It was much more than we ever dreamed of. We learned so much about the truths behind the actions that were taken in every theater of the war.
The reality of the museum exhibits brought to life the heroic and sacrificial action of Allied forces. We were overwhelmed with the size and depth of the exhibit. Don’t miss this!!

Excellent and educational for teens- do NOT miss the Beyond Borders 4D movie. We went on a relatively crowded day (NYE) but volunteers were adept at breaking up crowds

This experience was on my bucket list for many years. Highly recommend the 4d movie. Was very informative. It was a bit confusing at first, but with the help of the many workers, we were able to navigate the campus. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit

- This is a must visit for anyone coming to New Orleans. The exhibits and artifacts tell a detailed story of WWII and its impact. You can spend a whole day or a couple of hours there exploring. Their museum store has an impressive collection of books on every topic imaginable related to the War.

This was a very immersive experience. It was a very large and detailed museum. The flow of the exhibits kept you interested. There was also an interactive part so you could follow a soldier during each stage of the war.

The museum is so well planned, and the details are endless. I am not a history buff by any means, but we were near New Orleans, and my husband really wanted to visit this museum. It was very special and so thoughtfully appointed. For future guests ... be sure to note that building # 7 is not on the museum map (or at least not on the map that we were given) ... just buildings # 1 - 6. Another important tip ... Online it seems that the two day pass is really promoted. It's definitely more expensive, understandably. The one day pass offers plenty of time (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) to see the entire museum, providing that you do not leave for lunch. For people who choose to utilize the one day pass, you can grab a quick but limited lunch at a grab & go stand, or you can have lunch at the American Sector, located inside the museum.

This is an amazing museum. Really well presented and a ton of stuff to look at. The map is a bit confusion but there are volunteers everywhere who can answer questions. A more see for everyone!

As a local, this is one of my FAVORITE places to go. I always enjoy learning what the men and women during the WWII time did for our country. The sacrifices both here and over both oceans are recognized.

The museum was well worth the visit. It was much larger than I imagined. Everything was first class. It helped to make the people and places come alive in my mind. I thought the interactive submarine simulation very interesting.

Located on the southern edge of downtown New Orleans, The National WWII Museum spans multiple buildings and offers an immersive, information-rich experience that’s both educational and emotionally powerful. As one of the largest WWII museums in the U.S., and arguably the world, it delivers a comprehensive look at the global conflict through exhibits, multimedia, and personal stories.
We visited on a weekday afternoon in mid-October, which is considered off-peak. Despite this, several exhibits were still quite crowded. Our visit lasted about three hours, which allowed for a quick sampling of each section, but anyone wanting to explore in depth should plan for a full day.
The museum’s layout is ambitious but can be disorienting. Exhibits are organized by location and theme rather than chronology, which may challenge visitors expecting a linear historical narrative. It is also possible to jump between buildings and topics mid-storyline, which adds to the confusion.
Multimedia elements, such as large video screens and soundscapes, enhance the immersive experience but may be overwhelming (or even inappropriate) for young children or sensitive visitors. One standout feature is the interactive “dog tag” card, which allows guests to follow the wartime journey of a specific soldier. While engaging, activating the card requires providing contact information, which led to a daily stream of emails afterward. I had to unsubscribe due to the frequency, and I wonder how relevant those emails are once I left the New Orleans area.
Admission pricing is consistent whether purchased online or at the door, which is a welcome contrast to other local attractions that charge more for online bookings.
*****Tips for Visitors*****
Time your visit: Even during off-peak seasons, some exhibits can be crowded. Arrive early or plan for a weekday morning if possible.
Plan for time: A quick overview takes 2–3 hours, but a thorough visit could easily fill an entire day.
Navigation: Be prepared for a non-linear layout. Exhibits are organized by theme and location, not by chronological order.
For families: Some multimedia elements may be intense for young children, consider skipping those.
Dog tag cards: These interactive cards are a great way to personalize your visit, but be aware they require contact info and may trigger frequent emails.
Ticket pricing: Same price online and in person, no need to worry about booking fees.

Well, the WWII Museum really doesn't need more 5* reviews, but it gets one from us 2!
The Tom Hanks D-Day film on the hour is well worth sitting through, too - even with reverberation and wind effects!
We only had time to walk through the Pacific Campaign rooms, but they were very well done with a ton of original material.

A very impressive and expansive museum with lots of attractions and things to see. We spend a few hours there and enjoyed it!

If you visit NOLA, this museum is a must. The exhibits, the movies, just everything is incredible. Give yourself a half day at minimum to really get the most out of this museum. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Truly amazing experience. Wish I'd had more time as the museum is easily worth a full day's visit. A gem in the heart of New Orleans.

One thing you have to do when in you are in New Orleans is go to the National WWll Museum , so much to see and learn that you cannot see it all in one day . There are helpful volunteers to guide you to what you want to see . You won't be disappointed .

We planned this trip specifically to visit the museum based on our interest in the topic and all the wonderful things we’d heard about it. The museum exceeded our expectations. I’m 69 and I have never visited a museum like this. It is incredibly engaging and moving. You leave there changed. I am incredibly impressed by what they have created; it’s powerful. Don’t miss it. We bought a 2-day ticket and didn’t see everything we wanted to. The 2-hour guided tour was very helpful as an overview/highlights on our first day. We had lunch in the museum restaurant both days and the food was good and so was the service.

OK, I'm a map person, but I don't think you'd need to be an expert to recognize that whomever was responsible for the maps in the movies and on the tables in the first building was sloppy and ignorant: maps supposedly showing pre-WWII Europe and Europe during WWII showed post WWII boundaries for Lithuania; Poland's boundaries for inter-war Europe were inaccurate, and supposed during-WWII boundaries were, instead, those of Post-WWII. It led me to wonder how much else in the museum was inaccurate. I soon found out -- with an unexpected horror element at the train car ride: the opening film of the train ride, supposedly showing men going off to war, showed, I believe, automobiles built after WWII. I left the ride, and starting getting this scratchy feeling on my back, under my shirt. I soon felt a little lump on my front -- lo and behold, it was a cockroach, two inches long, that now dropped to the floor, and I crushed it with my sneaker! I went back to the ride, and told a staffer about the cockroach that apparent dropped from the ceiling of the train car into my shirt, and was told to tell security at the entrance to the building. I did, saying they should close the ride and fumigate it. The guy was rightly horrified. Did I have any completely positive experiences in any of the buildings? Yes, in the American Sector restaurant and Bar, where Mary Louise was my bartender/waitress: the food and cocktail was great!

What an incredible museum. We knew we were only able to spend two hours there, so we didn’t force ourselves to run or see everything. We will set aside a full day next time. but even then I imagine our emotional stamina will need replenishment before we explore all the exhibits. Lots of opportunities to sit and watch informational videos. The artifacts and staging really made this an immersive experience.

We purchased the general admission and it was worth every penny!
The sheer volume of information, exhibits, artifacts and displays is absolutely incredible. The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. It is still overwhelming the vast unfathomable loss and sacrifice that so many made. The museum does an excellent job of delivering the scope of tragedy that actually occurred. This is the 3rd visit in 10 years and there is so much more than the first visit. The depth of emotion extracted from visitors young and old is formidable. While graphic in certain instances, all displays provide a necessary realistic account of events for proper understanding of the scope of the war. As a Canadian we are taught a brief overview of the war, but the information provided is sorely lacking in the capacity of sacrifice, dedication and ultimate allied organization it took to overcome the criminal entities.
It is overwhelming learning of the atrocities committed against minorities, POW's and innocent civilians.
It is an incredibly humbling place that one could get lost in for days! I recommend planning for 2 days to truly appreciate the stories, information and displays provided, especially if you choose some of the specialty packages.

Bought for my husband and he loved it. It was very informative about everything. It also has spots set up where you can hear personal stories from soldiers from the war.

The National World War II Museum is the very template of what a museum should be in terms of communicating not only information, but also an experience, to generations growing up with modern video technology. As a Baby Boomer, I grew up with the history of World War II on television in both narrative and fictional form. One out of every six adult males had served in the military during World War II. In the decades after I went to school, this information was not readily available to young people growing up. The museum is so comprehensive that it really is organized in two separate exhibits-the European theater and Pacific theater. The Museum skillfully integrates not only exhibits, but also film clips, sound effects, vibrations, and other mechanisms to make you actually feel an experience. You are at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attack. You see the bullets of German fighters as they shoot at the B-17 bombers flying over Europe. You are in the landing craft as they cross the English channel to go to Normandy. You march through a Pacific jungle when the Japanese open fire. You’re in the Enola Gay as it drops the atom bomb on Hiroshima. Every bit of modern technology and modern communications combine to present an unforgettable experience and, hopefully, the lesson of what a united America can do when it sets its mind to accomplish a goal.

The WWII Museum is a must-visit, offering powerful exhibits and a captivating 4D movie that bring history to life. A moving and educational experience!

It thoroughly tells the stories of the military campaigns, the homefront, and more! Truly something for everyone -- from the military strategy buff to anyone with a general interest in US and world history.
The Sound and Light Show told the moving story of the human experience -- through letters to and from servicemembers.

We stayed there for 6 hours. There is so much to see from the movies and the huge room where the impressive life-size planes are on 3 levels. And the other rooms c is very well done there is a lot of space between the rooms of the documents photo videos objects of the rooms reconstituted poignant testimonies the very welcoming volunteers extremely kind. Actually, it would take two days for the museum to close at 5:00. We loved this museum really recommend it.

Nice museum, worth checking out if in the area. I really liked my visit. Be sure to take your time to walk through. Lots of pictures, displays, artifacts, etc. There are planes and vehicles on display. I went early and it wasn't to busy. Small gift shop on site. Buy your ticket, and go!

We walked here from the hotel, which was situated about a mile away. Just outside the museum there are lots of bricks on the ground memorialising the war dead and over the road there are a few statues too. Inside, everything was well labelled and as you walked round it was all chronological. One of the best war museums I have ever been in. Entry tickets were over $30 each, although it was well worth it and you can spend most of the day here. There are items on about 3 floors with additional items hanging from the ceiling.

We thoroughly enjoyed going to the WWII Museum. There are several exhibits, each showcasing a different aspect of the war such as, the lead up to the war, the Pacific theater, the Atlantic theater, D Day, The Marshall Plan, civil rights, and The Holocaust. I would say that, for me, The Holocaust, and civil rights exhibits were the hardest to go through. Those exhibits have many graphic photos, videos, and depictions that are not fun to see, but are important to keep alive. All in all, it’s a great museum for the money and time.
Plan 4-6 hours to get the most out of it. They offer various discounts for students, military and others. WWII veterans are free.

A very special museum, you will find the whole story regarding this dire chapter for humanity, its causes, background, development and denouement in a very didactic and clear way for the whole family explained with documents, videos, weapons, maps

We visited the Museum following a recommendation from the city sightseeing tour guide Scott.
We could have spent a couple of days?at the museum as there is so much to see. We were there for most of the day. It was very informative and sad at the same time listening to survivors of the holocaust.
We spoke to Bob, one of the ambassadors in the Boeing building. He told us some great stories about the aeroplanes on show at the museum. I would definitely recommend a visit and definitely include the 4D film.

Great museum. I’m not a huge history buff but was so impressed. Lots of workers to help out with questions. Spent 4 hours there. Very interactive. Lots of videos throughout which I prefer. Wish to have gone with my WW2 veteran father.

Very educational. You can easily spend two days there. I highly recommend getting tickets. I will definitely gobagain when I visit New Orleans.

Best, most comprehensive WWII experience we have ever seen. The exhibits are laid out to experience every theater that was fought during the war. They have a treasure trove of artifacts and documents that are absolutely incredible.
There are great videos and a lot of reading but you can pick and choose and still get a great understanding of what was happening. My husband is not a reader and I don’t care for video so it worked very well for us.
I was fortunate to come with a little information about my dads service in the Pacific Theater so I was able to identify where he served which was nice.
My husband particularly enjoyed the aircraft static display and also enjoyed learning about the PT boats.
Overall this is a can’t miss museum for anyone history buff or not.
Do plan to spend a large portion of your day here. We didn’t rush and saw everything in 6 hours.
Keep track of time because all of the eating establishments close at 2 except the hotel restaurant which is very spendy. (But delicious)

Extremely well done! Impressive displays and well thought out floor plan. You could easily spend hours here taking everything in. We only had a couple of hours to visit but we were able to enjoy the highlights. Staff were friendly and willing to provide direction so we didn’t miss anything.

I wouldn't consider myself a history buff so we almost didn't stop here during our visit. However, after a delicious lunch at Butcher Colon nearby we decided to pop in. It's a very modern museum with interactive exhibits, video, audio and has a wonderful flow that takes you through everything related to WWII. It's an enormous museum comprised of several buildings. If you want to do everything you'll need at least a full day. I learned so much and it was presented in an interesting and engaging way.

Hands down the best museum I have ever visited. It exceeded my expectations. If you visit, plan to take plenty of time to take it all in.

Excellent museum, offering a two- or three-day experience, depending on your level of interest. I wish we had two days to cover it. The museum effectively captures both the global and national aspects, while also keeping the stories personal and sharing individual snapshots and artifacts of many individuals involved. The 4D movie production was excellent, and the soda shop concessions made a decent lunch. I would not suggest this museum for small children.

Amazing and humbling, all at the same time. I was very excited to see this museum after its development over the years. We finally made it to New Orleans for a family vacation; this was our first outing in the city. Be prepared to spend all day or more, as there is much to see and experience. I was unsure how interested our 16-year-old son would be, but he was fully engaged and loved the place so much, at his suggestion, we are going back for a second day later this week. He also said, it made him realize and understand how much people had lost and sacrificed to win the war. Although I am well-read on history, especially the 1920s-1940s, I still learned so much from the different exhibits, which were both set as a typical standing display to exhibits that used technology to get you engaged and feel like you were interacting with that moment in time. There is a lot to see there, and I highly recommend it for a casual family visit or for the person who loves a deep dive into history. It does a great job catering to many different levels of interest.

This is an incredible museum. The exhibits make the experience very real. There is a lot to see but you can choose the exhibits most meaningful to you. My husband’s father was in Normandy and we found that exhibit most impactful. The volunteers are very friendly and helpful. I learned a lot and will remember this experience for a long time!

What a museum, spent most of day going through each of the buildings, the museum does testimony to the people who fought for our freedom all those years ago. Watching some of the animation showed what America and the United Kingdom had to go through.

We did the basic admission. The museum was very well done; however, it was a bit confusing about where to go. I’m not sure we went into all of the areas. There is a lot of information and it is a bit overwhelming. Both of my grandfathers served in WWII and I find that time in history to be fascinating.

I did not really know what to expect out of this tour. I had not done a lot research on it. My daughter is a history teacher so we mainly went for her. I was truly amazed. This is one of the best museums I have been to in a long while. It is large but there are plenty of places to rest and you can take your time. It has elevators and stairs and the air conditioning worked great.
The information was all laid out well. You could read to your heart content but there were plenty of audio presentations for you watch and listen to. We spent about four hours in museum but I could have spent the whole day there. Plenty of restrooms, and places to eat.

Incredible museum so well done we felt we learned every aspect of WW II. Plan to spend the entire day there is a ton to experience

The World War II Museum is undoubtedly the best museum we've ever visited. Its immersive exhibits and thoughtfully designed spaces create a captivating experience that brings history to life. Spanning seven remarkable buildings, each structure focuses on a different aspect of the war, offering varied perspectives from its onset to the aftermath.
Visitors can delve into the chaos of combat, explore the intricacies of manufacturing and production, and understand the war's profound effects on civilian life. The museum does an excellent job of presenting both Allied and Axis viewpoints, allowing a comprehensive understanding of the conflict that shaped the modern world.
One of the most striking features is the journey through time that follows the paths to Tokyo and Berlin, showcasing pivotal moments and decisions. The attention to detail in the exhibits, combined with personal stories and artifacts, makes the experience both educational and emotionally impactful.
Whether you're a history enthusiast or a casual visitor, the World War II Museum offers an engaging and enlightening adventure. It's a must-visit destination that ensures you leave with a deeper appreciation of the complexities of the war.

Fantastic museum. Top notch displays and presentation. Volunteer guides are all over and very helpful. The museum goes on and on, you could easily spend 4 hours there and not see everything. I would go again.
A Museum Not To Be Missed.
The World War II Museum was fantastic. Each portion of the Museum told a part of the story. Between the movie reels and the exhibits there was a lot of information to take in. We got there at 10am and didn't leave until 4pm. Unfortunately, that was the only time we had. I would have loved to spend another day there, but we didn't have the time. Definitely worthwhile. Don't miss it. My husband, who does not usually love museums, loved it.
