Shells

By Angela P |

Best shells around. Make sure to park the 4 blocks away to avoid a tow. Take water as it gets hot on the walk.

Awesome Sunrises and Sunsets !

By Norma T |

Beach is very well kept, some stretches are for homeowners and beach rentals . There is public access close to the point ! A few shells can be found on the point when the tide goes out !

Secluded shelling

By Emily B |

I took my daughter (1.5yrs) here with my parents and we all LOVED it. It was a little bit of a walk to get there (only minded cuz of my daughter) but it was worth it!! We found so many big intact shells, a starfish (we threw it back, don’t worry) and best of all, my daughter was able to just run run run to her hearts content. It was pretty deserted—just a few people here and there. Definitely will return on our next trip to Emerald Isle

Breath taking

The walking on the beach was breathtaking. The view was awesome...... we all watched the sunset... highly recommended.

Adventure

By jozo67 |

We visited the first week of Dec 2918. Suggest pack a lunch and if sunny an umbrella. Once out on the Point you can look and hike from ocean to sound. Beautiful. Great for photography, shell hunting, and general exploring. With such limited parking it isn't crowded. Go and let the kids run.

Best place on Emerald Isle

By Christine P |

This is my all time favorite spot in Emerald Isle. It is always changing with the water currents. Years ago you couldn't walk around the point unless the tide was very low. Now they are creating a bird sanctuary. On windy days you can find kites and surf sailers (?). Lots of people bring their dogs out here to run since there is so much space. Lots of birds! Boat parties happen on holidays in the inlet. Most days it can be very quiet. The beach can be huge in spots so be prepared to walk a bit from the beach access. But it is worth it.

Wide beautiful beach

By Nkh3nc |

After our 3rd annual family vacation my wife, young son and i on the beautiful Emerald Isle, we finally ventured out to the point. Lots of large seashells along the light sands and very peaceful without crowds.

Wide Open View

By John K |

Very scenic area for beach lovers. Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. Even though today is overcast and windy, the "rawness" of the elements still made it an outstanding experience to be out here.

see the whole nature scene here

By Deanne A |

the point is where the Atlantic, sound, and intercoastal join. The drive out Coast guard road gives a good feel for the type of neighborhoods and you'll see the joggers, dog walkers, and bike riders on the special paved path beside the road,as well as a pretty horse farm aznd house on the bay. You can also visit the coast guard with your kids. There is however only 1 small parking area in the neigborhood so go early to get a spot and walk the 3 blocks to the point. The neighborhood is also called the point.

Fishing, birding and deer

By Kelly C |

We typically stay near the point and enjoy the fishing here, as well as the shell hunting. This is the best spot on the island for wildlife watching.

Good beach

By Linda D |

This beach was very clean and nice sand.We have found while visiting the area that most of the beaches are very much the same. Long sand between your toes walking beach.

Natural beauty

By Rosetat24me |

Took a few minutes to find the parking area a few blocks back but worth the walk. Visited twice before noon on weekday. Wide clean beach with excellent shelling. The waves were a little calmer close to where the sound meets. There are 2 handicapped parking spots closer than the area we parked but someone with mobility issues might have difficulty in the deep sand getting to the water. Will come back again if visiting Emerald Isle.

Could not find parking

By Angela W |

Never got to see it due to it always having the one 10 car parking lot full. Very disappointed. If you are military go to hospital point on Camp Lejeune

Beautiful!

By Beth W |

This place can be hard to find and we had a short walk through the dunes but definitely worth it! Beautiful to see and TONS of seashells. I wish we had prepared better for the hot weather as we didn’t get to stay very long. Would love to go back.

The edge of the world!

By Laura L |

Unbelievably stunning place where the intercostal meets the ocean. World class sunsets, miles of open beach. It feels like you are at the ends of the earth. An incredible place that you have to see at least once in a lifetime!

Beach Vacation 2016

The point is the place to go if you want to find lots of large seashells. We also found to Sand Dollars. Flat and wide beach. Good fishing spot also.

Aaaaaamazing

We come here often as we live in Jacksonville!! It’s a little piece of heaven. There is very little parking, so either come really early or come later in the afternoon! Great place to do some shellin’! 🐚

The Point at Emerald isle

By Emerald Isle |

We have owned property at the Point on Emerald Isle for 36 years. In my opinion it is one of the prettiest places on the NC coast. We live in Emerald Isle and still rent our vacation home to others so they can also enjoy this beautiful beach.

Beautiful Beach!!!

By Shell_Diva55 |

This is my favorite beach in NC. The view is amazing and the sand is a beautiful white. Love shelling around the end of the island.

Beautiful, A Must-See

By mec46 |

The point is a beautiful sight to take in while in Emerald isle. It's a nice walk in the early morning and would probably be just as nice at sunset. We found a horseshoe crab washed up on the sand and a few shells.

Beautiful beach

By Laura F |

I have enjoyed the scenery and ocean views from The Point on EI for decades. Big expansive beaches and lovely ocean views with birds and other wildlife each day.

Love this place

By 838yvonnes |

Go here as often as I can. Having a 4-wheel drive during the off season is great. Plenty of beach to explore. Have met a lot of people at the point. A lot of people come here by boat to hang out and island hop. Nothing else around so bring what you need with you. Relaxing area to spend the day with the family and friends. Natural beauty at its finest.

Beautiful beach, quiet neighborhood

We drove on the beach by Jeep to the Point and I photographed people fishing and the scenery. Beautiful place to see a sunset and enjoy the breeze and relax.

The Point, Emerald Isle NC

By tracipaige |

The Point is a beautiful beach, nestled at the tip of Emerald Isle, across from Bear Island. The sunset is absolutely breathtaking and it is the perfect place to collect sea shells. In the off-season months, driving is allowed on the beach.

The Place You Should Let All Your Woes Wash Away

By Sabrina H |

The Point is the western tip of the island Bogue Banks. You can walk from the ocean to the sound and the the turbulent waters where each meet. It's a great place for fishing & shelling. It's also the best place to just stand and really take in life and let less important worries be washed away.

Amazing sunsets!

By H2O360 |

Drive out and just take in the awesome sight of the sun sinking down...night, night! After the sun sets the colors of the sky are beautiful!

Quite place of solitude

By sirjohnwhitcomb |

We stayed at the Queens Court Condos and this was a 20-25 minute bike ride from our condo using my 21 speed. I went late in the evening when it was cooler in the day and spent some time in prayer while walking. This is a great place to get away from the busyness and be quite or relax for awhile. Early morning walks may yield some good shells as others have posted. Another good spot similar but much larger is the Island where the Cape Lookout Lighthouse is. Take the military truck to the end of the island first run in the morning and you are sure to be blessed with a good peaceful walk and find some great shells.

Sunny warm April day!

By Sue1655 |

The beach is beautiful, clean, happy looking. Our parking was a bit challenging, the beach was pretty empty that day.

Seashell expedition

By CandiM21 |

Myself, my daughter and her friend went to the point to pick up seashells for my mom who is in a wheelchair and couldn't go with us this year. We found several lovely shells and swam to a small sand bar. The Point is a special place to us because we have been visiting it for at least 40 years. We always spend at least a few hours their every time we go to Emerald Isle. It is absolute beautiful and one of the most peaceful places I have ever visited.

A gorgeous, natural, uncrowded beach

By 1mbp |

The Atlantic Ocean, Bogue Banks, and the Inlet in it's natural beauty. Enjoy a peaceful stroll along uncrowded dunes surrounded by sea birds and a few fisherman. Sunset at The Point is memorable.

By doublemdoublet |

Sometimes it's stormy. Often it's sunny. Many times it's paradise. Whether early AM or the sun setting in the PM, this is a terrific spot to walk, sunbathe, fish, jog or sit on a unobstructed sandy point on the Atlantic. It provides both coastal waves and sound beaches. One portion fronts the Bogue Inlet so be careful with shifting and swirling waters. TIP: Parking is almost unavailable in the Summer. Be prepared to be dropped off, bike in or walk 1/2 mi from the closest beach lot.

Perfect Beach !!!!!!

By Sammie |

I love going here, its amazing and peaceful. I would do anything to live over there. The people are so nice and sweet its completely different. I love the sand its not like the other beaches. I would do anything to go that side of town. If you want peace and quiet go to this beach. The water is perfect. Deff coming back to this beach.

the point

By Joel C |

drove around for a bit trying to find it as the reviews made it sound like a great place to hit. but after all the gas burned, i decided it was too difficult to make it happen due to lack of parking and trying to actually locate it.

Beautiful spot on Emerald Isle

By anav |

Beautiful white sandy beaches. It's not crowded even in high season. Great shelling. Go during low tide for miles of white sand.

A nice beach destination

By EIrose |

The point is a great destination for a beach walk or bike ride if you are located to the east down the beach. But be extra careful if swimming off the point because the currents can be tricky. There are no facilities or food service there. It is the end of the island where a channel connects the ocean to the inland water way (or sound), and the beach is wide. Bear Island is visible across the channel.

Beautiful!!! Amazing spot!

By Yevgeniya K |

This spot is fantastic! So wild and beautiful! Very large area with dunes. Ti bad there is no parking. Or maybe it's a good thing, otherwise it would be full of tourists.
I would put it #1 in the list of things to do here.

Beautiful but be prepared to walk

By VacationSmith |

We went to enjoy the sunset. We drove down but were unsure of the parking lot. My husband dropped us off while he went looking for the parking. We climbed the stairs to the beach. Once we reached the top we were shocked to see how far we needed to walk to get to the water. It is probably a good 200 yards! We got to the water's edge just as the sun was about to touch the water. It was beautiful and well worth the walk. We did not get a chance to explore the area as my husband never did find a parking place.

After our trip we did find the parking. It is on COAST GUARD DRIVE not Inlet Drive. It is a fenced in gravel lot about two blocks from the beach so that adds to your walking.

If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle you can drive onto the beach but there were signs that a permit was needed. We were told you can purchase one at a police station, but you should investigate that as we were told that the whole permit thing is new.

Breathtaking view a must stop!

By Connosear |

Stop at the Point, it's a breathtaking view and you can park free if you are not there long. Get a drink and use the restroom, this is a nice stopping point if you are traveling through and need a break.

I love this spot! I was married here.

By Helen F |

This is the most unbelievable place on this magical island. The sand goes on forever and you can see where the ocean meets the sound - its completely magical

Always great!

By Nkh3nc |

We alwaysbenjoy at least 1 day at the point, grabbing big shells or just relaxing in the low waves. The wall is easier since a path was diverted to the left instead of the center climb as the only option. It is a must do if on the island.

Riding!!

By hairync |

The first place we ever rode on the beach and got hooked. Have done it ever since. Caught lots of fish there and had lots of fun with friends. Permits are required.

Seashell heaven

By Thomas A |

If you like seashells you must visit this spot. It's about a 2 mile walk from the public parking but it's very worth it! There's even some turtle and bird nests roped off that you can check out. The views are amazing here too!

Sunset Place

By Kay F |

This is the place to come on Emerald Isle for the best sunsets! Bring a blanket, snacks and drinks and relax and wait for the light show. Bring the camera too!

Surf fishing

By christinan474 |

Beautiful beach, but surf was too rough to fish. Excellent beach to just relax and listen to the waves. Not crowded and pleanty of space to hang out and play with pets and people.

Awesome beach and Sunsets

A very special place for sun, fun, surf and awesome sunsets. Good place for walks, talks, and sharing with family.

All alone on the beach

Love this place, No people, just beach and dunes. Only one other couple was there the day we visited on a bike ride. So serene and pure.

Beautiful, clean beach

This is a wide, very clean and uncrowded beach. It is very peaceful to walk here and enjoy the views. It is especially lovely at sunrise and sunset.

A Must See Natural Attraction In Emerald Isle

By A C |

We visited Emerald Isle for the first time last year. The Point was a gorgeous FREE natural attraction to visit. Its a secluded beach at the tip of the island, peaceful and not crowded at all. I think there was one other person there when we arrived. The only drawback is parking. We couldnt find a parking spot so had to have my husband drop off 8 of us at the entrance. Overall would definitely recommend visiting due it its overwhelming beauty.

Very very long walk to the actual point

By delhances1 |

My daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter made it all the way to the actual point - the end of Emerald Isle. The whole area is actually called the point, and is uncrowded, clean and very photogenic. Seashells abound, including much sought after sand dollars. You will have to get up early to find whole sand dollars, but there are literally tens of thousands of shells strewn all over the area. You can surf, surf fish, or just enjoy some quiet time listening to and watching the surf at this isolated beach. This would be a strong 5 star rating if there were a port-a-potty or two available.

Sand, Sun & Natural Beauty

By january h |

Beautiful beach! The Point was peaceful and practically secluded. There was a small crowd of beach-goers on the inlet entrance side of the beach. People were very friendly. Once I made it to the other side, I felt like I had the whole beach to myself.

The sea life was amazing to see - I spotted schools of fish, hermit crabs, what looked like a turtle (wasn't sure), a baby sting ray and a glimpse of a baby dolphin. When the sun hits the water just right, you can see all the little creatures. There were several sandbars throughout the beach as well. Sea shells were abundant.

As for parking, your best bet is to get here as early as you can to the little parking lot with the white picket fence a couple blocks away from the beach. I pulled in around 8:30 a.m. and it was half full. By afternoon, every spot was filled. There's room for maybe 10 cars or so, and when one leaves another pops up in its place very quickly. I don't know if Uber is available here but could be a good alternative if you don't want to stress over parking.

Wide, fairly secluded beach

By ATLbaqtravel |

I went here looking for better running options as my hotel beach in Emerald Isle was at high tide and had no hard sand. If you follow Coast Guard Road until you arrive at the Point (you'll see a sign) you will find a small parking area, from there you can walk to beach access areas. There are also handicap spots (but only those) right at the access point. You walk through dunes and arrive at a wide beach. I've heard there are good shells, but didn't find any myself. It was wide, so I could run and one direction was fairly empty. The other had a ton of surf fishers, so that must be a popular spot.

Dunes where the ocean meets the sound

By Jess |

This is an awesome large flat beach area. View of sound across the way Hammocks Beach state park. Perfect to see sunsets.
Lots of shells and roped off area to protect the dunes and natural area. Parking is few blocks away no street parking be prepared for a nice walk.

Beautiful

By sabrina s |

Totally wasn’t expecting to see this amount of untouched beach. It was amazing! Unfortunately the access to drive on the beach was closed. The only downside to this place is that there wasn’t any parking close to it.

beach walk

By wally b |

great place to go in the summer & fall to hang out & go shelling and surf fishing. Great views & plenty of sandy beach

Beautiful area

By denver60 |

This is an absolutely stunning area but it was a little too chilly on the day that we visited to really enjoy the views. Hopefully, we will return again when the weather is a little better.

Gorgeous view, lots of shells and room to play frisbee or football if at a slow beach time

By TheNorri |

One more place we always visit when we're in Emerald lsle. Lately, we've been trying to get a rental closer to the point so that we can walk there, because parking can be a challenge. If you're into a hike, you can grab some lunch and drinks at the shopping center on the end of Coast Guard Road, then take the bike path to where you can cut down one of the local streets to a beach access. Check a map for the public ones, some are private. From there, it's a gorgeous, nature-filled walk. The houses are mostly set back from the beach and there are less people one this section of Emerald Isle, as you get closer to The Point. We have enjoyed lots of Frisbee time here, or football when the wind is too strong. As the tide goes out, tidal pools form with lots of wildlife and you might even want to cool off in one (if you don't mind the crabs tickling your toes). Definitely recommend. If you have to park close because of physical or family challenges, get there early. There is a public parking lot that holds 20 cars or so that is a couple of blocks away. Make sure you put this on your beach bucket list...

End of the Isle

By GMKISOK |

Wonderful, quiet place to enjoy sunrise / sunset views and to collect some shells. There's no parking at the main access point so you'll have to park a few blocks away on Coast Guard Road about a block away from inlet drive. There's about 10 spots for parking and it's free.

Spectacular Natural Area in Emerald Isle

By 385donf |

The Point offers spectacular views of nature and an opportunity for solace. There are dunes, roped-off areas for nesting birds, and tidal pools with hidden treasures. On the day we went, we were there about an hour after low tide; there were plenty of intact scallop shells but we didn't see anything else. But there were numerous starfish and tiny fish in the tidal pools.
The closest parking area is on Coast Guard Road; it has limited spaces and is about a 10 minute walk from the entry to the Point. And from there you're at least 200 yards from the ocean, even farther to the actual tip of the Point. There are no water fountains or rest rooms so be prepared. But the walking was well-worth it with gorgeous views of the inlet and Bear Island and the unobstructed sounds of surf and wind. We plan to go back soon for experiencing a sunset.

Great sky meets ocean and beach. Warm air for October. Water is a little chilly but you can get used to it.

Beautiful Spot

By Loriasimp |

Whenever we are vacationing on Emerald Isle, we make sure we visit The Point. It is a beautiful spot to take in the ocean views in a quiet and most often, secluded area. Our kids (now in their teens and in their 20’s) have very fond memories of visiting here... we used to call it “the tidal pools” because many times when we went there, there were small pools for the kids to swim in. (Depends in time of day)
It’s free to visit.... take your camera.!

Beautiful part of EI. Enjoy the sunsets!

By JetBetty |

Great place to watch the sun set. Nice big beach. Ocean and sound both accessible here. You can ride your bike down Coast Guard Road on the bike path to reach The Point or drive and park in the small public lot just before Coast Guard Rd. ends (it will be on your right).

VIEWS!!

By DeborahDec141974 |

My family and I heard about the Point and we went searching for the views! The views are breathtaking! It is worth the trip to drive there! There is a small parking lot not too far away. It is a very peaceful place and the beach was gorgeous!!

What's not to like? ... Unless you're not a beach person

By Daniel J |

Its simple,

Beach - Awesome, large area, dog friendly and safe

Sea - Slightly more dangerous with rays and sharks occasionally but its warm and sometimes has great waves

Access - there is parking although its limited but so what? Park at the beginning of coast guard road at the Valero or Jackie's and enjoy a long stroll. Are you a local? Get a pass and drive on the beach!

Great for fishing, shell collecting, relaxing, and for the views.

By BBDY |

In the past, we owned a house in Emerald Isle for 16 years and spent a lot of time on the beach by the point. It was only natural in our recent trip back to once again visit this beautiful spot. Just follow Coast Guard Road to the end and make a right onto Inlet Drive. There is limited parking at the point, so you might have to park a bit away and walk.

It was nice to see a relatively new wooden walkway to bring you from the road up over the dunes to the beach.

This time we just walked the beach, looked for shells, and enjoyed the sunset. In the past we spent many hours sitting on the beach, watching the boats come out the inlet, or fishing there. Remember, you are at a place where the inlet and the ocean meet. The currents can be tricky, so be careful if you go in the water.
