Good luck if you're only a kid at heart

By Jen S |

I've been here a few times as a teacher with school kids. It is a great place for children who are able and willing to explore and let curiosity take over. Too young and they won't under stand, too old and they'd get bored. As an adult, it would be great to be able to read each exhibit and participate but it becomes difficult when uncaring and/or unattended children push their way around you or make your experienced rushed to get out of their way.

Skip it if you're not a kid

By dogtorCB |

I was pretty excited to check this place out! I was in San Jose for a day and had some time to kill before meeting up with some friends. I saw advertisement for The Tech and looked at their website. It looked pretty cool!

If you're a kid or if you have a kid, this place is probably awesome. There are a lot of hands-on activities, but not really a whole lot to do if you're an adult. I'll be skipping it next time around.

Hands on

By RobReno |

Very hands on displays. Good for kids 8-15, adults too.
Try the jet pack chair and the cube you protect before it is dropped from a balloon. Lots to see, but you have to get involved.

Very interesting

By Vegasdja |

We went during the weekend so it wasn’t overly busy and parking was simple. Not to mention the museum will validate parking in the garage across the street on weekends, which was an added bonus. Had a lot of interesting exhibits and hands on activities. The Bodies exhibit was there during our visit and also caught a movie in their Imax theater and loved it. Had our godchildren with us and they stayed busy most of the time as well. Would definitely go again next trip.

Got teens? This is your place.

By Kathleen P |

The Tech offers lots of fun activities, especially for kids ages nine to sixteen. Start with an I-Max film and then head for some great interactive challenges. Adults will also enjoy the activities , but will take special joy in watching the kids discover whole new worlds of scientific wonders. A delightful day is a sure thing.

Great place to spend a couple of hours

By Momofthreekkr |

We went with our 13 year old twins and they had a very good time. We started in the animation area and the kids had fun with the computers and making their own animals. They have a traveling exhibit that is still all about the body and bones and body systems. Very interesting and interactive. Downstairs there is a cool area where you create contraptions to protect your sensor. This is a fun area and it is like the school egg drop project. Very hands on and creative. The only negative was that there were a couple of camps there so certain areas got crowded but it is worth a visit.

A great museum in downtown San Jose. I used to come frequently, and had the chance to visit again. More than half of the museum had new exhibits, and some of my old favorites (the space jet pack ride) were still there.

Great place for kids and adults

By Lewis F |

I have taken my kids here a number of times and they love it. Great way to burn off some energy and learn at the same time.

Ok for two hours

By dankhoo |

My tennagers enjoyed themselves but it was certainly not a ‘let’s do it again’ event for them. Some of the exhibits needed explanation from staff and when crowded, it could be a tedious wait.
The younger of the two enjoyed it better and we estimated that it’s most suitable for ages below 14years. Our older one was ok but we could tell she was a little past these ‘junior-type’ exhibits.

In all,we found that the price to exhibit was on the high side. $25 for audults and $19 for teens/children up to 17.

Great day of awe

By Tbenevento |

We have been here on several occasions and for several events. It's always fun to see new perspectives in learning. My kids enjoy the hands on exhibits which often give them a better perspective than their text books in school. The theater is a great place to see but caution if your susceptible to dizzy spells. It's really busy on the weekends but if you can catch an afternoon it's worth the wait.

Busy, loud and crowded but interesting for some young people

By jenstevewest |

Full of people...and lots of kids. It's a field trip destination for bus loads of kids. Parking sucks and is expensive. Unless you're going to the IMAX it's not worth the bother.

Excellent learning experience

By Colby R |

We went with our grandchildren. We were there for 4 hours. We could have stayed another 4 hours just to use the exhibits and learn from the exhibits. The boys are 11, 9 and 7. Great staff all friendly and super exhibits, that can be touched, used as learning tools and just fun. Us older folks also enjoyed the experience. Do not miss it we will be back.

Tech Museum and IMAX Show

By mini |

We enjoyed going to both the Tech Museum, which is a very good interactive science Museum. We also went to the IMAX show, which was also good to see. There is a store and cafe as well.

It is in the downtown area of San Jose.

It ok

By Superman1701 |

Smaller than I remember. When packed the small little areas to visit have long waits for little ones. Also, very computer or tablet screen oriented not so much hands on!

Wonderful Museum for Kids & Adults

By Ilene T |

This museum has something for everyone. There is so much for kids to have hands on with and learn. Learning fun. There are also exhibits that are enjoyable for adults.
We particularly liked the earthquake replication of different seismic levels. There is also an interesting Google map exhibit and fun roller coaster exhibit. It is a delightful way to spend the day with family.

Inspirational!

By Stefani1220 |

I am a school principal. Our students enjoyed, learned and were inspired! With kids learning STEM subjects in school, teachers were able to link the classroom to real world experiences.

Great place sir science and technology!

By tifsterv |

We live in San Jose and have a membership. This is a great place to learn about all different branches of science and Engineering. Plus the imax theater is a one of a kind in the country.

Fun time killer

By hannysea |

Great place to kill some time especially on a rainy day in San Jose - they have tons of cool exhibits and an attached imax that was playing star wars at the time. Would recommend but may be vaguely repetitive in some exhibits if you've visited a science center elsewhere.

Learn About Your Body

By Travel the World |

This was suppose to be a rainy Imax movie theater day but when we arrived we heard about the human anatomy exhibit and detoured our plans. They had a digital image of a 33 year old man who died from cancer. You will see how smoking impacted his heath. The price is high but well worth the expense. The building has 3 floors full of variety. Plan on spending the afternoon, this is not your average museum.

Great family entertainment

By Helen F |

The kids loved this place. Lots to do and see. Can't wait to go back again. They learnt lots and spent hours playing.

Great space for kids and adults alike

By Socratez2000 |

A must visit for anyone traveling to the Bay Area. The showcase of innovation in the heart of innovation . Excellent exhibits and reasonable admission rates. Plus nice restaurants nearby.

Whole day visit

By Nirmal M |

It was an out of the world experience with interactive models on several scientific subjects such as Robotics, IT / cyber , Anatomy, space etc.
Spent the whole day from 10 to 5 PM but could have spent even more.

Should not miss the Earthquake simulation in the basement.

Also the demo of Cyber security was exceptional for people like me who know very little of the subject. A real eye opener

Great for kids; adults - not so much

By Tres W |

Mostly focused for the kids, but some things would interest adults if they did not have crowds of unruly kids and their harried parents mobbing the place. If you don't have kids, visit during school hours...

Very Interactive !

By Anant G |

The museum has a higher share of "to do activities" for kids v/s reading and viewing stuff. Suggest going there early as a lot of major exhibits close 1 hour prior to museum closing time. The cafe has decent food options and they have a big merchandise store containing attractive stuff for kids. Felt the number of exhibits should have been higher.

Aimed at kids

By The_Hallams_x |

I come here when had some time to kill, I have always wanted to see the body works exhibition which was really interesting but the rest of the museum is aimed purely at kids so was disappointed for the ticket price

COOL TECH MUSEUM in SILICON VALLEY

By sixseto |

My friends who lives in Silicon Valley is proud of their " Tech Museum" which has been in process developing new, exciting space and exhibits for several years.

Body Worlds Decoded is worth checking out. In 2011, Body Worlds resided at The Tech's Parkside Hall which familiarizes visitors on the concept of plastination. Love the three dimensional display where you read and learn intriguing facts of the human body. This fabulous exhibit is included in the price of admission.

In San Francisco, the Exploratorium, provides nice experience with "touch" interactive experiences. However, Tech Museum also rivals Exploratorium with their hands on innovative experiences which includes maker space, cyber detectives and a social robots space on the bottom floor. Very unusual and cool.

Small boring but is ok

By Veronica F |

I went to see the body exhibition, it was very very small you need tops 40'.
The other tech exhibitions are small as well, and sometimes don't even function properly. I don't recommend his place.
Is kind of boring.

Fun, Interesting, and Inspiring Time in San Jose

By BordRestaurant |

We visited the Tech Museum of Innovation on our short gateway to San Jose with our two young boys, on a rainy Sunday in October. It turned out to be a great choice, and would have been on any day.

There don't seem to be many exhibit areas at The Tech. But what's there is often fascinating and a great experience for everyone. The space makes this a very pleasant visit, without the feeling of overcrowding, without the feeling of being overwhelmed, and with an airy atmosphere, short lines to do the vast number of hands-on exhibits, and plenty of time to absorb everything. The exhibits are organized thematically, including Robot Design Basics, Innovations in Health Care, BioDesign Studio, Jet Pack simulator, Body Metrics, and many more. I had a blast through the Virtual Reality simulation. I've never experienced anything like this, and can see now VR's attraction as an entertainment and learning tool. My wife especially enjoyed the whole body visualization on a full scale touch monitor, with the ability to examine even the deepest parts of the human body. And our kids loved absolutely everything!

While some of the technology displayed at The Tech showed its age (robotics, for example), there were a lot of leading edge exhibits as well. But even the older stuff was great, as we were able to get a glimpse of some early technological innovations that have withstood the test of time.

We also visited The Tech's IMAX theatre, to watch the National Parks Adventure, a fantastic movie about America's unmatched National Parks. The projection system experienced a sound glitch at the beginning of the movie, but the staff were able to quickly resolve the problem. After watching this movie, we all agree that it's a must-see.

The motto on the museum's brochure reads "A must-see, must do Silicon Valley experience for all ages!" I couldn't agree more. :-)

Museum has many educational opportunities, on our visit most were not working, sothe ones that were were overcrowded.

By vibe2015 |

Try a day with bad weather, when kids should be in school. The concept is good, the ability to try different functions may be limited with too many customers.

Great experience for all ages

By hodag21378 |

This is not a museum aimed at elementary school kids though there are things for them. All over this places are interactive exhibits that are interesting and showed a number of things I'd not seen before. One exhibit used the skills from other exhibits to solve a puzzle.

Leave yourself time to work on exhibits, not just a minute to glance and move on to something that doesn't require to think and there is a lot to get out of this place. Consider spending at least half a day if not more time.

We were with a large group of very bright high school students and they all liked the place. The special presentation was much like things they had done in class before coming but the presentation was above average, enthusiastic and entertaining. As a science teacher they showed me a couple things I hadn't seen. The students had positive responses to the presentations as well.

Well worth a field trip, well worth an extended stop and well worth a second visit. Don't think it's just a place for little kids.

Nice museum

By Mhak10102020 |

We came here with 4 adults and 4 children under 6. Big fans. Plenty of things for both the kids and adults. I really liked the VR station. My daughter also liked the DNA station and the computer painting station.

I got a magnet for building a catapult in the mechanical engineering area that they promptly asked me to disassemble 😂

If you like IMAX . . . . .

By Diana L |

We chose to go to the Tech to see the two iconic films that are celebrating 50 year anniversaries: D-Day, and Apollo 11. It was a Tuesday afternoon, so good to beat the crowds. In fact, the theatre was nearly empty! We could have the pick of our seats! Apollo 11 was not well done, using old footage that was not remade for IMAX. It was just OK. But D-Day was excellent. The historic background, as well as the visuals were wonderful, and gave one a very good story of this amazing event. We did enjoy it very much. One thing about seating. The screen is ENORMOUS, so it is best to sit nearly at the top of the theatre, which is on a very steep slant, to enjoy the entire picture, without having to lean your neck way back. Seats are comfortable. Sound is a bit LOUD for my liking, but it is typical of nearly all theaters these days. Who in the theatre business thinks we are all DEAF??? Well, we will be at this rate.
Anyway, it was a fun way to spend a June afternoon. Parking is available for ticket validation, but only at certain lots. Need to know where. We didn't. Unless you want to get caught in the endless school groups there, don't go in the mornings.

Poorly managed venue, so bad it’s a joke.

By Peter G |

Great venue terribly managed. Went to see Beutifa 360 at the IMAX. Terms and conditions said no late entry and readmission once the show had started. It’s only an hour long and was looking forward to an “immersive” experience. The film was great but experience was poor, people were being admitted up to 20 minutes after it started and people were constantly up and down getting popcorn etc. one person arrived late actually shone her iPhone torch around the audience 15 minutes after it started to find a seat. If you have rules, enforce them.

A Great Learning Experience

By Tobie L |

Fun and learning for the whole family! Very interactive and gives my children and I a hands on experience.

Excellent for the curious child and their parents.

By anthony l |

Very informative and fun. Creative hands on displays. Very good computer technology equipment including a roving robot.

The in-house Imax theater is well worth a view.

Great museum for techies!

By Jamieky2 |

My wife and I visited The Tech in early March of 2018. At that time there was an excellent exhibit on virtual reality on the second floor, which offered several extended viewer experiences to anyone who waited through the short lines. Highlights in the basement included a cyber-security exhibit (again with some participation options) and a simulated jet-pack experience in the well-done space exhibit. I was told that the exhibits change often, but I am confident that you and your family will find something amazing during your visit to The Tech!

Informative and Interesting

By Libi K |

This was a fun and interactive museum. Lots of old technology and New. Very engaging and inspiring!
We sat in a self driving car and it was totally fun.

Yes for adults, but not for little ones

By Ken M |

The Tech continues to do a good job of showing some of the inner workings of Silicon Valley. Interesting interactive exhibits on computer security & other topical subjects. But it's for ages 14+, I'd say. A few families there with younger kids didn't have much to do. Yes, Omimax is good, and gift shop was creative. Expect to have to "work" at the exhibits - and then they are worth the effort. But there is no quick poke-and-success exhibit here. It's a thinking adult's science center.

Conference Hall Visit

By Chris A |

Nice venue, good quality. Little loud, but good overall. Would be nice if there were smaller doors to use to go to the bathroom.

Mostly for kids

By Trea9mm |

This is mostly a kids museum. I wouldn't recommend it for date night. Some of the touch screens didn't work.

San Jose Tech Interactive – A Place of Learning

By Uday Kumar H |

I visited the admired Tech Museum on 15 September (Sunday). The facility of advance booking is available.
After reaching, we took the ticket for the show, “Volcano” in IMAX. The show was thrilling.
The Tech is a science and technology center in San Jose, California, in Silicon Valley. It is located adjacent to a famous Plaza in Downtown San Jose.
The Tech mentions that it is a world leader in the creation of immersive STEAM education resources to develop the next generation of problem-solvers locally, nationally and globally. The Tech further believes that everyone is born as an innovator who can change the world for the better.
The Tech Museum, in 2015, was awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honour a United States museum, science center or cultural institution can achieve.
As on date, The Tech Interactive welcomes half a million visitors each year. Through programs such as The Tech Challenge, its annual team design competition for youth, and internationally renowned programs such as “The Tech for Global Good”, which honours people doing work to benefit humankind. Furthermore, The Tech celebrates the present and encourages the development of innovative technology for a more promising future.
In my iPhone, I took some photos which I am posting with brief description.

Enjoyable experience

By haynathrt |

A 61, 58 and 21 year old spent 2 hours at the museum. We truly enjoyed the interactive exhibits focused on technology. Could have easily stayed longer if we had more time. IMAX is also there which we did not do. Great place for people of all ages. Nice location with nearby restaurants. NOTE: signs point you in direction of City Parking Lot. NOT part of museum validation. Check museum site for where to park.

Best science museum we’ve been to!

By Shari H |

Tech Interactive is an excellent science museum for kids and adults. My 9-year-old son loved it. We only had three hours at the museum and wish we could have spent the whole day. We’ve been to a lot of science museums and this one was the best - so many engaging, hands on activities with staff assigned to each to help and answer questions. Highly recommend.

Not really impressed

By WIWIandBRAD |

Wasn’t really that engaging, thought there would be a whole lot more interactive things to do but there were a lot of exhibits that were not hands on, nice IMAX theater, probably the best in the San Jose Area

Great place for older kids and grammys to spend a very long day!

By Sealyq |

This wonderful treasure is great for almost anyone but I think the best is older kids and their grandparents. The kids can educate you on newer tech and the reverse is also true!

Educational but pricey!

By Sanam D |

I went with family and it was pricey but very fun and educational for the day trip! We watched the film "Superpower Dogs" in IMAX and it was both extremely entertaining and interesting.

Tech Out!

By Farhad F |

This is a great place for kids who like to tinker and learn at the same time. There are different attractions year round, not to mention the imax theater with science/educational movies and also other attractions like Star Wars.

Best I-Max

By kevinoE6598GW |

Tech Museum is a cool place to take the kids, lots of hands on science experiments and displays. After all it's in the hart of Silicon Valley.
It has the best I-Max I've ever seen, it is a dome like screen that goes over the audience for a fully immersive experience. If you want I-Max go to San Jose for the best.

tech...more tech.....yes!

By Bryan Z |

there was lots oft ech games on the bottom floor and a human body one on the top floor. The thech games were fun

Too Complex!!

By Chiloo-Chilee |

Definitely it's a good museum!
however I would say not at all feasible to enjoy if you are with children under 5.
Teenagers and adults would love it for sure...
Heavy to the pocket compared to other museums in the town! No deals!!

In all I would recommend to young children and adults..

Great details

By Rocco C |

Updated, Active and very informing. Good for Groups of people, kids, families, traveller, tech passionate, computer hystorian.

Fun and interactive museum

By Rick C. |

I've always preferred hands-on museums over museums where you just observe things under glass and read about what you are looking at. This museum is definitely hands-on. A highlight for me was creating an animation of a camel wearing "bling" riding a skateboard upside down with one hand. :-D

inconsiderate management...

By tyagi |

I brought a school group here and paid for 113 admissions to the IMAX show. They would not let the 3 local guides escorting the group attend the show unless they paid. Incredibly CHEAP. I will never take any of my school groups there in the future.

Get your inner geek on and visit the The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose!

By Travel* |

There are many museums in the country that extoll science, technology and math, but none quite so true to the roots of STEM as this museum. The best part is that you don't need a Phd to enjoy the exhibits.

This museum has it all...hands-on exploration; family fun; AND an IMAX theater to boot!

Go...see...do...enjoy. Carve out four hours and go lose yourself in this place.

Activity museum suited for those who love science and technology

By kimstamps |

There are lots of activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. When we went during the week, it was quite busy with school/camp tours. There are all types of displays and activities. The virtual goggle exhibit was a big hit. The IMAX movies are worth the extra price.

Nice science museum

By avecdce |

Nice museum with lots of stuff to do & learn. Is spread across 3 levels & is licated in downtown san jose.

Super fun experience for 11 year old

By fred200099 |

After two hours we had barely worked through the outstanding interactive activities on the top floor and were still going strong. We listened to each of the special tech for global good displays, and each provided just the right amount of clear content to understand the what, why, and impact (e.g., LIVOX app developed by a Brazilian researcher to allow individuals such as his daughter with CP to communicate their needs and feelings with touch screens). “Reboot reality” and “Body worlds decoded” were virtual reality and plasticized actual bodies - for slightly older kids but still fascinating (we looked at the cast of blood vessels in the human arm and the virtual cadaver med school trainer). The bio design studio was a special treat and included creating an engineered organism with certain behaviors that when released into “the wild” proliferated and took over the environment; and the actual biological experiment to create and plate color emitting organisms. By the time we got to the lower level, we realized that we were going to have to return for more robot programming, deciphering, lock picking, etc. fun museum; perfect for teens and tweens.

Science & Kids

By FaisalOkapi |

An excellent facility that provides a wonderful hands on experience to the kids. The staff were very friendly and assisted my young kids in optimizing their "science day". The Museum also provides Military discount.

A fabulous place to bring the kids!

By DonaldYokum |

This place is San Jose's answer to SF's Exploratorium, and a great one it is! There is so much to engage the young mind here, in so many different areas of technology. The exhibits are very thoughtfully designed to allow an easy grasp of the principles behind the process, and there are a multitude of tech personnel available to describe and explain the exhibits. This place is a real gem; grab your kids and go!

Discovering downtown San Jose

By isabel g |

This place is awesome. I love the many different t technology expositions they have. It’s a place to enjoy and learn.

Also, if you have time, stay and watch a movie I’m their imax theater, this theater is different. It feels like your in the movie, like your floating, it was quite an experience, highly recommended

Extremely boring

By AKK |

When we went a lot of the things were under construction. If not under construction the interesting things like VR etc. were already fully booked through the day. In addition to that, the museum has a lot of interesting things but seemed to be tailored towards children.

wow a great place dot spend a few hours

By Margscott |

We stumbled across this place in down town San jose and went in and spent 4 hours in there and we were without children.. the place is full of cool things to see and do and really a great time with children that can interact with all the sites. as Adults we had so much fun.. it was amazing. and we learned lots and had a lot of laughs too

Great for kids

By snorggee |

So many hands on activities for your kids. Great location for other downtown San Jose finds. Great place to spend 3+ hours.

Not bad

By Leo L |

I had wanted to go to this place for a couple of years. It was Mother's Day and I came in at 11:30am (they open at 10:00) and the place wasn't that busy. There were a lot of kids which was what I expected. The hands on stuff was interesting. The restaurant in the museum was good too.
This place captured my attention for a couple of hours. If you bring kids, double that. You have to pay for parking in one of the city lots. You can get your ticket validated before you leave. It was a Sunday for me so it was $5.00 for all day if you wanted.
As an aside, there's the San Jose Art Museum across the street. I didn't go, but if you've got all day on a Sunday, why not?

Awesome place for fun learning!

By Brian H |

The Tech Museum is an amazing place! An absolute must for kids but adults as well. There are tons of interactive games and building activities for doing all ages and interests. I would plan to spend an hour or 2 in the morning, take a lunch or snack break at the park across the street, then he'd back for another hour or so. There is a lot to do so it's best to set aside most of the day to get your money's worth.

For Kids and Kids at Heart

By banerjee |

Exhibits and hands-on activities here engaged kids and adults alike in our group for most of a day. Particularly interesting was the "build your own robot" and cybercrime activities. The exhibits on recent developments in health care were cutting edge and very engaging. I wished we lived in the area and could visit frequently.

Great for Kids & Adults

By neuroticah |

Great way to spend an afternoon with or without kids. Lots of " hands-on " exhibits and interesting projects. Thought provoking & creative.

A large facility with less and less activities for younger ones (around 8 years old)

By gjim195 |

We took our 8 year old grandson a few months ago. There were very few activities for his age group. Their was a VR activity but he had to be older. He was bored after three activities we found (keys etc). Note, his first desire is to stop and Barnes and Noble to read and buy books. He has a number of interests with and without screen time. We will not take any of our 8 grandkids (all under 11 years old) to this venue again.

Interactive and Amazing

By zenasbee |

This may be the most interactive museum I have ever visited. There were cool tech activities for adults and kids with all kinds of interests: robots; space; genetics; forensics; security; transportation, and so on. Some activities could be completed in a few minutes while others required a 15-minute commitment. My kids could have stayed all day! Well worth the price of admission.

Strictly for kids

By dcpalter |

Fancy and well funded science museum with a bunch of exhibits about space, earth, and the human body. But not very interesting for anyone past about junior high school with a good understanding of science. And absolutely don't come during school holidays - full of kids, which is fine, but you feel like you have to give them priority to play with the exhibits, leaving nothing at all to do.

Beware of summer camps!

By look4fun |

My 16 year old daughter and I visited the museum in late June and were disappointed. Mostly because the museum was swamped with summer camps and it was difficult to get near, or try out, any of the displays. Don't visit here Monday to Friday during the summer if you want the hands-on experience. The one thing we loved, was the virtual reality flight simulator. You have to pay an extra $8 for this, so the kids camps were not using it. It is totally worth the extra cost. You really feel like you are flying like a bird! My advice to the museum is to offer regular patrons a discount when the place is crawling with summer camps. Not worth what we paid, that's for sure.

Go for the Special Exhibit

By Mary Jo N |

We chose to visit this museum specifically for the Body Worlds Decoded Exhibit. It was well worth the price of admission by itself. Utilizing a unique method of preservation, the exhibit displayed various body types by peeling back the layers of muscle to reveal the inner body. The comparison of a baseball player, singer and dancer was amazing. The main museum, however, is primarily an interactive playground for kids that was rather mediocre. I would give that portion 3 stars.

Extraordinary displays, interactive centers and so much information

By David N |

The Tech Museum of Innovation is a treasure store of information about many areas of science. We particularly enjoyed the interactive computer security segment that helped understand the logical process of improving security and uncovering weakness in cyber security. There is an extraordinary section on the human body. Another special area was the space science display. We spent several hours at the museum and did not find ourselves fully sated. While there we also took in one of their IMAX movies on the ocean. That too was a special experience where we learned so much about life in the oceans and issues being confronted around environmental concerns. The theatre is connected with the museum.

Great for kids of all ages

By Hooman A |

This is just a fun place to go. I take the kids at least twice a year. Always learn something new.
And if you cam, catch a move in the IMAX domes theater.

Business visit in PM

By jbcampo |

Our partner held a two-hour evening event here. Only a few areas of museum were open - Birdly 3D flying and a few other 3D areas. Unfortunately, most of the museum was unavailable for us to visit. It does advertise an IMax experience.

a great place

By daveseelig |

a very cool display of modern technical innovations, very fun for all ages, I've been visiting the tech museum since the early 90's, very hands on!

Very interesting, but crowded

By aberdeenjohn |

This is our third visit over 5 years. Still very interesting, but not much seems to have changed. This time it was a weekday and very very crowded with large noisy school groups. Previous weekend visits have been more quiet. Great for a visit if you have not been before - but expensive if you have visited before as there is not much changed.

My The Tech visit on Oct-2017

By KenYonemitsu |

Many exhibisions are interesting. Especially , "Mars" was the best for me. The gift shop was also exciting and I bought several goods that were unique I might not able to buy at other place.

Better than I expected

By Edd A |

Thought this might be dull but the app exhibits and layout are far from dull. Great interactive exhibits, loved the space walk, lock picking, computer hacking, earth quake rooms etc etc. Even better for kids you could stay for hours

Stunning

By MalandAnna |

Mostly good for younger kids but the cadaver dissections are world class. Much better than my medical school anatomy museum! Different but up there with La Specola in Florence.

Interesting place even for adults

By Karim Maarouf |

I was here as part of an event for a conference group. We had the whole place to ourselves. I really enjoyed all the exhibits. They are all interactive and designed to teach an entertain. There was a particularly interesting exhibit on the human body. I think both adults and children can easily enjoy this place.

School Break Visit

By susboys |

Always fascinating exhibits, fun for adults and children. Easy access from light rail, and good lunch and dinner resturaunts close to museum.

Awesome educated-fun and worth paying visit

By ukgaurav |

We went to this as part of evening event of our technical conference and it was great to be here. We enjoyed each one of the sections and tried to review each great stuff that was there and seldomly seen such in past it excited me about science, tech and its evolution and lot of other things.

Its worth paying visit when in san jose

No help from stuff, expensive and only little to explore

We visited the TMoI with our friends incl. 5 kids between 4 and 8. We paid around $180 and were pretty surprised but as we heard a lot from the museum we did it. To start with the result: Our kids were terribly bored at the end and I would never go there again.

Half of the interactions or attractions do not work as they are broken, the other half is complicated and not suitable for kids (at least below 12y or so). When there is stuff at a station, they are not competent to explain what's going on but only give you instructions what not to do.

The museum lacks explanation, background, interesting information etc. For example you can experience how an earthquake feels, but nobody explains further on this topic. We are deceived.

Learning is Fun!!!

By Lori B |

This is a very cool place to take the kids to learn about so many technologies. I also learn a lot everytime I go there. I have also been to a few corporate funtions (200-300) that were great there.
If you bring the kids I would bring a lunch as the cafe is not so great there and overpriced.

Designed Solely for Children

By LaurenVallez |

My boyfriend and I went here on a date. Kinda cool place, but would have been nice to know ahead of time that almost all of the exhibits are targeted towards children and are overrun with children. If you are not 10 or younger, you will most likely be unamused and bored. One thing my boyfriend did really enjoy was the flight simulator, but forewarning there’s a long line and it costs $8 for 2 minutes. It was also disappointing to see that a few activities we actually wanted to try were temporarily closed while we were there yet we were still charged full price.

Potentially awesome

By MES767 |

We were excited to spend the greater part of a day here and play around with the exhibits. The store and ticketing were well staffed with friendly people and parking at the convention center is validated so you only pay $5. I managed to squeeze in coffee before we headed upstairs too. My girls enjoyed the IMAX film Extreme Weather, which was a nice way to set the stage. It seemed to be a slow day at The Tech, which was great for us, but staff was hard to find upstairs and would have been helpful to understand the various exhibits. The hands-on approach to understanding how the exhibits work was good but I would have liked a short explanation to guide the kids. The tickets are very expensive, too expensive in my opinion when compared to major art museums that cost less, so I would think twice before going again soon. For the price to enter I would like to see more assistance upstairs. Downstairs in the making space the staff was helpful and encouraging and my daughter managed to complete the task at hand, really enjoying herself.

Museum of the Engineer

By mlflee |

If you are interested in how things work, this museum is for you. It is relatively expensive to get in but typical for a science/natural history museum. I have spent lots of time in various museums of this type and this museum was noteworthy as being more up to date as well as technology savvy in their presentation. I got my first experience in virtual reality with 3D painting as well using augmented reality in the Body Worlds Decoded exhibit. If you are curious about the underpinnings of technology, this museum is for you. I ended up spending 5 hours here. I parked in the Convention Center a block away and the validated parking cost me 5 dollars.

Great events, engaging and a fun place to learn

By taoandzen0 |

I specifically enjoy their all adult evening events and off themed nights. It is full of nerdy info and cool exhibits. The traveling exhibits have been from Star Wars to Leonardo De Vinci. As for over stimulation; very much so. Which if that is your goal you will meet it. Personally not something I would do twice except for the themed nights and special exhibits. They do have something for everyone in the family and makes for a fun date night.

A place to learn

By marytingsley |

I really enjoyed this place. There is a lot to learn here and you can find some really interesting things that I haven't seen elsewhere. Go visit them!

Great educational experience

By uncvcutraveller |

I was in San Jose for a wedding but I and my dad had some free time. So we went to the museum and saw IMAX theater and saw two movies. It was really awesome and a learning experience about science. I would recommend it. I did see a robot stroll around..

Nice science and technology museum for kids and adults

By 935hhl |

I took advantage of Bank of America's Museums on Us program and got free admission on the 1st Saturday of the month. It was a very nice education museum with both interactive displays, large exhibits devoted to a central sci/tech topic and more youth-oriented educational activities. Lots of interesting information and several uses of augmented reality to play with. Worth the visit if you have any interest in science and technology.

Fun for kids through science and technology

By Jorge B |

Having a break during a congress (the venue was placed two blocks away), I visited this museum. Even when it´s certainly focused on science and technology, it´s more suitable for going with kids. I´m sure they would really appreciate the many spaces available to get knowledge through innovative ways for delivering it. It was worth the visit.

Stimulation for Inquisitive Minds

By FrequentFlier668444 |

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Museum. Dearly wished I could have spent more time there, as many of the exhibits needed adequate time for familiarization and use. A highlight for me was a 30-minute film in the amazing IMAX theatre. A slight irritation was having to continually scan one's pass to access the exhibits. The 20-minute limit on roadside parking outside the museum is grossly inadequate and thus it's advisable to park elsewhere. Overall, a stimulating experience.

Fun afternoon

By PNW Traveler |

My daughter had fun building a robot. My son enjoyed learning how to pick a lock. lol. He and my husband also enjoyed the brain wave monitor station.

Tech Museum

By Angela C |

We have a membership. My son and my granddaughter enjoy it. I think I would like more personal hands on experience before writing a "personal" review; most of my review is based on observing others - my family and strangers alike. Everybody seems to be enjoying themselves so that says something.

Must visit for everyone

By Lilit Y |

Had to much fun like a child . Very educational, interactive exhibition hall. One of must visit for every visitor.

Fun science style museum!

By nmyrda |

This was a nice museum with a lot of different exhibits. This is definitely more suitable for kids up to 16. A very hands on museum.

Amazing dome theater

By kalyani s |

I visited the tech museum after my friend recommended the place... The dome theater is amazing. I watched 2 movies back to back... The gallery is okay though.. Good for kids...

Class field trip

By EGar92 |

Great place to take the little ones. They have many fun educational activities.parking is a bit tough to find

Fun place for business outing!

By KayGee62 |

I was in town for a business conference and one of the events was a private party put on by our hosts. We have the run of the facilities to experience the exhibits as well as to mix and mingle. It was quite crowded in various areas, but we were able to have the run so to speak of the building to get away from those crowds. I would love to return as a regular guest and experience more of the facility, Hopefully next year when we return.

Great place for the whole family

By IlariaK |

Many interesting exhibits, lots to see, not just for kids! Great place for events too! Cool shirts at the gift shop.

Fascinating

By IcyApple |

A fascinating day at this place. I couldn't get to see everything. Would highly recommend it and hopefully will go back myself!!

Great experience

By L1201AAlindag |

My kids loved going when they were younger 7-14. Now they are older and are to busy. The tech has something for every age.

one of the kind Museum

By M A |

good place to learn and try out the new technology interactive display. Really good for small kids to elementary age

Great place for growing minds

By Justin C |

My wife and son visited this museum when we were in the area for an event and they had nothing but great things to say about it when getting back to our hotel. Lots of hands-on things and age-appropriate interactives for a 6-8-year-old. Kind of jealous that I was not able to visit when we were there.

By manilabelle |

Nice learning activity for all ages. Allot like 2 hours or more to enjoy the whole place. Like bio laboratory , body parts , computer, earthquake sample.

Its fun

Fabulous!

By Sharon H |

This is a great place for everyone. Lots of hands on experiments/interactions at various skill levels. The exhibits change frequently so there is always new things to see.
They also have a great IMAX theater.

Would have expected more...

By sunnymarek |

Would have expected something more "WOW" this being Silicon Valley. It might be because I'm an engineer and not that easily impressed. The kids found it to be boring.

Family Fun at the Tech Museum

By wellTravelledPapa |

My Grandson and Grandaughter enjoy the Tech Museum for hours. The high tech dome theater screen is fabulous and sound system is dynamic. You can watch both movies and interesting documentaries. The Panda Bear documentary was very interesting and educational. My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly while my Grandchildren studied and had fun at all the exhibits. My oldest Grandson works for the Exploratorium in San Francisco at special events programs and was formerly an explainer of the exhibits and has fun showing off the exhibits here in San Jose to my other Grandchildren. This is a family oriented place for all ages, do not miss this place when visiting downtown San Jose .

Tech museum visit

By leannejohnson621 |

Great place to visit for all, ages. So many things to learn about. Also a great gift shop for memorabilia for visitors

I wish this place existed when I was young

By Lori S |

This is a must go place if you visit Silicon Valley. It is a wonderful and kids and adults alike. I just wish it existed when I was younger - - its a place you can get lost in. The Museum also showcases the valley's innovation in ways that encourages visitors to return and experiment.

Just for kids

By sonyzen2010 |

It is not a museum in my view. It is a succession of activities aimed at kids.
I would have liked to see old tech artifacts and learn about the history/ development of the tec industries of the Silicon valley.
Kids probably love it but adults can be disappointed.

Not just for techies!

By celinecombatalade |

The Tech is undergoing renovation - and the results promise to be exciting. Docents are a great part of The Tech experience and from the monet you enter and area, they are there to make it come alive.

If you think technology is only for people who think in numbers and bits or bytes - think again! Yup these folks will ahve a great time at the museum, but so will anyone who is curious about beer (yes, beer!), life forms, and the role of communication.

Take a chance, take a tour! Enjoy

Better with every visit!

By Christine S |

I take my son here at least once a year. Each time, there are new things for him to explore and learn. We've even seen a movie (which is sort of tough for someone who gets motion sickness, like me). Will continue our annual journey to the Tech as long as he's still interested!

Lots to explore with interest for all ages

By TGIF_pov |

We were drawn in by the Bodyworks exhibit and stayed to enjoy everything else. We watched the great white shark documentary at the iMax theatre and the enjoyed wandering around the exhibits for a few hours. Highly recommend for kids and adults alike!

A lot of fun exhibits - worth the visit

By Alain B |

Loved the virtual reality drawing. DNA exhibits were really detailed and well done - taught my son about transfection and plasmids - really neat.
robot drawing also cool.
Have a sort of escape the room activity

Great Museum for Elementary age children

By Seth H |

Our family loves this museum. Be sure and look at family membership option as it pays for itself in just two visits. You enter on the main lobby where the new laser IMAX screen is (costs extra) and then they have an upper and lower floor full of different activities to engage your family. They also hold special events throughout the year that are fun to attend. Currently some of the exhibits they have are learning about the body via displays and 3D imaging through an iPad, Modeling via legos, drawing with iPads, earthquake awareness, space flight, medical section, etc. Everything is hands on and we’ve been taking our child since age 6. We’ve never been bored.

Nice but not so as per expectations.

By Neeraj771 |

nice place for nerds but not for advance user. not really much to see compare to what promoted to expected by me before visiting. can be nice place for school students or housewives.

Day trip

By Busy b b |

Awesome Interactive mind captivating experience definitely a must if you have small are teenagers children Always Something new going on here with plenty of parking in the area oh and don't forget the spectacular IMAX Dome Theater one of a kind movies and mini-documentaries it's a must

Outstanding museum

By Mike F |

Great place to see. Outstanding technology exhibits, and some are hands on. Venue is outstanding in downtown San Jose.

Little Tech

By vivaeldori |

It was a pleasant activity for my son. It was a bit smaller for a Tech Interactive place. Souvenir items are expensive. Not much of a selection in their store. It's clean and the kids had so much fun. That's what's important.

Body World Decoded

By Vicki G |

Not just your regular Body World exhibit. In conjunction with the Tech Museum a device called the Iris allows you to explore the augmented reality features of the exhibit. This exhibit is included with regular admission.

Great fun!

By Christine W |

This is a great museum for hands on exhibits. They have special exhibits on all sorts of topics that are technology related. Great gift shop with lots of nerdy little gifts! The Imax is wonderful too!

Great Family Place

By Peter F |

Been there many times, IMax, exhibits, and a great gift shop. Nice place to do some birthday or holiday shopping for the the kids.

very fun, great displays

By CupcakeJr |

The Tech Museum is a very fun place to visit. Geared a bit more towards bigger kids about 7+ but even my younger daughter enjoyed the displays. They are very interactive and great for learning. I would recommend everyone go here!

Great experience

By um30 |

Very educational and interesting experience! highly recommended anyone visiting or living in San Jose.

Small but lots of interactive and fun exhibits

By JeffPenman |

I recently went to the Tech Museum (free for BoA cardholders on first weekend of the month) and really enjoyed the museum. It's not large but has a lot of interactive exhibits and activities for kids. I especially enjoyed the Body Worlds displays and the earthquake simulator. Seems a bit pricey for what they offer but was very enjoyable when cost wasn't a factor.

360 Movie of Sharks is a Must

By kayemakin |

The Tech Museum is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon exploring new technology. The 360 movie of sharks is a must see!

Must see and do!

By kari934 |

This museum provides an incredible experience for young and old. Kids and adults alike are fascinated by the multiple exhibits and hands-on experiments it offers. There is great supervision and assistance available everywhere as well. Altogether mind-boggling and fun!

fantastic

By Kerry R |

The Tech has secured "Body Worlds Decoded" for about the next 10 years. This is an incredible exhibit. There are multiple plastinated human bodies on display. This exhibit might be too graphic for the very young but kids 10 and older seemed to be really enjoying themselves. The rest of the Tech is well worth a visit too. The place is ever changing and seems to get better with every visit.

Activities not intuitive

By Drcoleb |

Didn't find this place to be very entertaining, and many of the activities did not have instructions, so it was sometimes hard to figure out what you were supposed to be doing. Staff was nice, but the place lacked oomph

Depends on crowds

By mumof2Sydney |

Hesitant to visit due to the very mixed reviews and relatively high entry cost.
On arrival at opening huge swarms of kids on school excursions from 5 to 13 year olds. Made it not so great as most activities are individual or small group based. With crowds this means general public isn't participating. However the kids seemed to all break for food about an hour later and suddenly museum was quite empty and the situation changed. Ended up spending several hours here and the kids definitely had fun. Good for all ages through to I would say 14.
Tip. The local hotels have a $3 off general admission ticket.

Lots of Hands-on Exhibits

By TravelerSHL |

My family enjoyed this museum because of all of the hands-on exhibits and the numerous employees/volunteers who offered instructions at the exhibits explaining how they worked and suggestions for improving the experience. The museum is nicely divided into groupings of similar exhibits and we only found one exhibit that didn't work! My one suggestion would be to try and go when the school groups are not there as they fan out and it's not much fun to wait alot.

Worth visiting without kids so you can focus!

By Elizabeth L |

Love this museum, but I always go with kids. Some day I need to attend without kids so I can focus better on all the great exhibits they have. Super interesting and educational!

For kids only!

By SirTravelaLot1972 |

This possibly fun and interactive museum for kids, has no depth or insight for adults.
At $24 I was very very disappointed.
Placed in the heart of Silicon Valley the only reference I saw to the start up capital of the world was some nice sepia photos on the way to the restrooms.
Give it a miss

For Kids Only

By servojo |

Principally for young kids but very crowded due to many of the exhibits not working. Interesting hands on exhibits but were unmaintained and some very dirty. Concept is nice but not worth the trip downtown.

Great place for children

By Mark951 |

We recently went here with our 12 year old grandson. He found many of the displays to be aimed at a younger audience. There were some things he found to be interesting but with today's tech age children they like more challenging quests. There were many things for the younger crowd to do. They seemed to be aimed at the 6 to 10 year group. Also, we noticed there were a few attractions that were "out of order". Perhaps it was because it was a Sunday and they had been busy though we didn't find it to be overly crowded. We will go back another time to see the IMAX Star Wars movie which we discovered only play in the late afternoon. Overall we felt it was worth the money if you had a child of the age it is aimed for.

An interactive joy

By Ian M |

A fabulous place full of great experiences and an opportunity to learn. Every child should get taken to this place for inspiration

I could spend the entire day here.

By GoPlaces816175 |

Bring the kids. Bring the Grandparents. This place is for everyone. It's well layed out and there is lots to do and see. Good value for the money too.

great for anyone

By janet d |

although this museum is for kids (and it's great for them)! Let your own curiosity loose and "Discover" fun and fascinating facts, ideas, and theories.

Good experience

By Mia D |

An interesting place with lots of interactivity and pretty new technology, though I had thought that I would meet some tech that I had not experienced before given that this is the worlds centre of tech. But it WAS a good and well spend day!

Average Museum, Overpriced Tickets

By oneill492 |

Visited with an out of town friend. Didn't realize that it was more of a kid museum. If you're going with a few adults and paying full price ($25/ticket) then I don't think it's worth it.

It's a smaller museum, with a lot of dated exhibits (for example they have a bodyworks exhibit - which was popular like 10 years ago).

If you have kids, then it may be worth it - however, if you're going to SF then I would recommend the Exploratorium instead.

I think they should take a page from the Cal Academy of Sciences and do an evening happy hour that's more adult focused. Would be a good revenue generator and help add things to do in downtown SJ.

San Jose Tech Interactive – A Place of Learning

By Uday Kumar H |

San Jose Tech Interactive – A Place of Learning

Great place to bring kids

By drastler |

Awesome place to bring your kids. They have done a nice job introducing technology that made Si Valley famous.

Excellent place to visit to learn Ancient Egypt and Mythology

By Teysi |

I went with my family after reading Rick Riordan's The Red Pyramid and the Kane Chronicles. It gives the visitors a lot of visuals and immersion on Ancient History and Religion. Staff were especially very informative and engaged with the interaction with kids. The parking was adequate and the posts were beautiful! Lots of statues that depict the rich Egyptian culture and art. Reasonable entrance fee. Wish there were more merchandise like necklace with the eye of Horus or ankh or Hieroglyphics for Egyptology enthusiasts.

Interactive way to learn about the technology all around us

By love_a_good_time2 |

The Tech is awesome. Fun for the whole family to learn about many of the products that we use every day as well as innovations in the periphery of our lives. They also have an IMAX theater.

Nice

By Osnat G |

The museum is perfect for children, very interesting . The IMAX films are extraordinary , very interesting .

Great Museum

By Dog Rescuer |

Went to this museum while attending a conference and so glad I did. It was awesome! They were doing the Body exhibit which was very interesting and I also watched Star Wars at the iMax theatre. The gift shop was also one of the best museum gift shops I have ever been too. A must do if in the area.

Hands On Heaven

By Rebekajean |

Hubby and I love interactive museums and visit them throughout our travels across the US. We jumped in and participated along with all the school kids and had a blast! So much to do, not as high tech as we had imagined and many of the hands-on areas were crowded due to multiple classes of kids but still interesting and worth the discounted price for us seniors. We watched the IMAX Amazon Adventure and most of the kids in the audience actually clapped, We heard positive feed back echo as we exited after the show. Several floors and something different in each section so if you have the time, explore everything. Two thumbs up from us old folks.

Disappointing

By Brian R |

We went to see the Body Worlds exhibition. Very small, so they must only exhibit a fraction of it. Rest of the museum is ideal for children with all the interactive stands and very basic explanations.

Great exhibit but crowded

By tupidumont |

While the exhibit it's worthwhile to see, a handful of the interactive stations didn't work and the ones that did were crowded with small kids that just wanted to play, not necessarliy learn

Great for school-age children.

By CATallteacher |

Went here with friends and their kids. It was great to let the kids select the interactive displays to experience. No matter how many times I visit, the earthquake demo is a favorite for many.

Amazing Imax Experience

By Chaco Jon |

As part of a recent conference we watched an iMax movie that was shot from the vantage point of the space station as it orbited the earth. It was truly amazing and so realistic it gave me vertigo at times. While the movie was great, the theater was a bit of a challenge. If you have claustrophobia you might want to think twice about seeing a movie here. The rows of seats are so close together that it would be very difficult to exit in a hurry if you needed to. If you can handle close quarters though, the overall experience is well worth it.

Great attraction for kids in city!

By dadhikari2017 |

We like this place for rainy day activities - also does not hurt that it has an IMAX theatre inside! :)

Cool but for the kids

By tati_kat2020 |

I originally came because of their Body Worlds exhibit they were hosting but was pleasantly surprised by the other exhibits that promote science to kids. It would have been awesome to go to if I was still younger. A must for the family to go!

A very interesting place for all

By Brenda S |

This museum is always innovating and updating exhibits, so things are fresh and interesting. They have now added VR type exhibits, which are pretty amazing.

For children

By Carl K |

This is okay to visit. Is great when you have children so they can see the sciences they have there. I would only recommend this place if you have children.

Very educational and fun!

By MaryC95123 |

Our 10 year old grandson went with us. He loved the robotics and the imax movie “The Amazon “. We will go back and check out a few more things. There were a few exhibits that I didn’t understand so I will need to go back and check it out .

Fun for kids, big and small

By marybelle08 |

I really enjoy this place. It's not big, but they still offer enough to make you think, and learn something new. It has a really neat vibe, and there is also an IMAX theatre here, which I went to see "The Hobbit" at some years ago. I think adults can get as much out of it as younger people, because they seem to do a good job of keeping some standard exhibits, while also bringing in new items and topics fairly regularly. It's inspired me to learn more about various topics I hadn't considered.

Lots of broken atractions

By Alj0naK |

First of all, when buying the ticket at 15pm they didn't tell us that the museum closes at 17 and that some expositions close at 16. I think this is very unkind, to let you enter a closing museum.
Many expositions and experiments were damaged or broken -not interesting to pay for interactive museum, where half of things don't work. Some things are for extra charge( also disappointing for such a ticket price.
I max movie theater is ok, but the movies itself are quite boring, mostly kids staff. Lacking real flying feeling, not the best to show the IMAX movie magic.

Family fun

By Marla C |

I enjoyed one of the challenges that my family had to do. The staff member laughed at our design, but we accomplished the task. We agreed it was not pretty too. The human body that they had on a exam/tv type table was amazing to see the layers of the body (actual body from someone that donated their body to science) and what illness they had. Lots of interaction for people of all ages.

Great place to go with the famil

By Bob S |

This is a great experience for all but for kids it is fantastic. I suggest any local family buy the pack you can get in all yr. wonderful learning experience.

Dated for a tech/innovation museum

By Preefab |

My 9 year old enjoyed a couple of interactive activities here but most of it was quite boring.

The earthquake simulator, living colours and a temporary exhibit on making objects fall were all engaging. There was one activity they wouldn’t allow her to use because you had to be 10 which was disappointing.

The ticket staff at the entrance were underwhelming and made us feel as if we were inconveniencing them.

You only have to pay $5 for parking if you park in the convention centre and get your ticket validated.

The imax was closed for renovations in July 2018.

Outing With the Grandkids

By Mike F |

We took the grandkids to the Tech Museum and found the "Body World Decoded" very interesting. The interactive visualization of several plasticized human bodies was the part we spent most time in. The display was most informative seeing muscles and organs of the body and the affects of smoking and disease.
The IMAX theater was very nice where we saw the movie about Pandas in comfortable seating.
We were there during the week so it was not overrun with people. We will be back.

Great place for Museum Lovers

By Amal Nandan P |

Good place for buying souvenirs. The science and technology shows are great and some of them need advanced bookings too.

Love The Tech!

By Tietjens |

We spent nearly 3 hours in this interesting museum and we could have spent the whole day there. It was enjoyable even though there were many school children groups. It’s spacious and well maintained. Nice gift shop, too.
We bought our tickets online. It was really nice for The Tech to hire those who have disabilities. Thumbs up!

Not for adults

By obsydyanink |

Exorbitantly expensive for what it is. Not for adults. Kids will enjoy themselves, adults will watch kids enjoy themselves.

Fun for kids and adults

By Joshua B |

I needed to kill a few hours for a car repair so my 8 year old daughter suggested we go here. I suggest you by the combo pass that gets you the imax movie and the museum exhibits. There is a lot to do here naturally it revolves around technology. Everything is interactive and covers bodies, healthcare, space, cyber security, recycling. My favorite was the earthquake simulator where I got to relive the 1989 earthquake and my daughter got to experience what it might feel like. There is snacks and popcorn for the imax theatre. We watched the oceans movie, the movie theater is amazing and makes you feel special when you look at it for the first time. If you are there for a long period there is also a cafe which has kid friendly items along with adult food. Lastly the store which like most museums is slightly overpriced is still a cool experience with a lot of budget friendly options.

Great Museum

By JJerin2010 |

I always volunteered to be a chaperone when my children went here for school field trips. Lots of great things in here!

Lots of hands on exhibits

By Kristina D |

The Tech museum has lots of hands on exhibits. One of the exhibits allows the kids to build a protective cover for a box and then they drop it and measure the force (like an egg drop activity). There were also interactive activities to measure body responses to activities like jumping rope. Activities are for kids and adults. The kids had a great time!

Museum with lots of hands-on activities

By DHC518 |

Great museum. Close to light rail stop at the convention center. Many hands-on activities for kids and adults. My favorite exhibit was a 3D environment (wearing the 3D goggles) where you could paint in 3D your own landscape around you.

Not that great

By WIWIandBRAD |

I’ve lived in San Jose all my life and finally decided to take our 10 year old son downtown to check it out, $110 for our party of 4 with IMAX tickets and he had a hard time finding a single exhibit that kept him intrigued. We enjoyed the IMAX theater but finished up the museum in much less than 2 hours, I say save your money, he has more fun going to Santa Cruz

Enjoyable time with my children

By Embraceyourjourney |

This was a great family experience. Lots of great exhibits, that are fun and interesting for the entire family. Different exhibits that were geared for different ages, and education levels of technology. It gives many opportunities for families to experience up close, and hands-on, which in my opinion, is the best way to learn most things. Intriguing environment, while a relaxed place that children are comfortable to walk around explore and get excited about technology.

Fun for teens and toddlers

By pgtravelcasey |

The tech museum is a wonderful place especially if your family consists of multiple ages. There are great things that will stimulate and while the little ones and for me the bigger piece was the amazing exhibits and education that my teen and tween could get enjoy. Instead of feeling like they were in a baby place they definitely had options that expanded their horizons and knowledge. Even mom and dad enjoyed!!

Innovation Education

By Lois67 |

The Tech Museum of Innovation has lots of venues to be tactile. Hands down it was interesting to learn the information they had. The Human Body exhibits were exquisite. Many different things to try and experience. Helpful staff. Best advice is to come early before the crowds arrive. There is a restaurant and souvenir store.

Great fun and education experience

By Yoel S |

We went with both 5-6 old and 12-13 children and all had fun, especially in Body Metrics. The Tech Studio is great and we spent there more than am hour in trying to solve the problem with suitable apparatus. The little ones loved the Earthquake Platform and the challenges near the Health Care.
Cyber Detectives is very informative, but the mission room was interesting only for one child.

Excellent Learning Venues

By Mary C |

Great learning experience for elementary and above children. Exhibits are excellent with "hands on" activities. Adults will also benefit from the many different exhibits.

Lots of fun for kids and teenagers

By Aparna J |

Very interactive museum with exhibits that can interest anyone with a sense of curiosity. Really a must see in the area.

Not much to do for adults or older teens

By Kristen C |

Great for school kids on field trips. Thats about it. I was not that so completely bored. Body World exhibit was decent but much smaller than one I saw in Boston. I would not recommend it at all.

Always something to expand your imagination!

By Katie C |

Enter into the Tech Museum and prepare yourself to never want to leave. Awesome, interactive displays and information to stretch your mind and beliefs in what you thought you knew!

A true gem of San Jose!

Great Place for Kids and Out of Town Visitors!

By Joni C |

Very fun place for both kids and adults (but probably more fun for kids!). Easy parking access. Great kids activities. Plan to spend a couple of hours seeing everything.

Awesomesauce

It was awesome everything was good cafe good gift shop overpriced but do not take kids to human body excibit very scary.l

Fun place to visit

By Louise925 |

The IMAX movie we saw was great. Closing time today was 5:00 but several things had shut down by 4;30 which was disappointing since we had paid price for a full day. Many things seems to be oriented for children.

nie museum

By neil g |

interesting museum with multiple different exhibits. especially good for children. the human exhibit was very good.

Wonderful place to visit

By Beth_Moscov |

I love the tech museum. There are three floors all with different focuses. You can do the whole museum in a few hours or just one floor. I have gone as a family with small kids as well as teens. Everyone loves it.

interesting museum for the kids

By JLRendon |

it is a lot of interesting technology activities on the museum, the kids can learn a lot, there is a waiting time to use each device so you need to go when is not so busy if not you will wait a lot each activity

Great for all ages

By robert K |

We went as a side trip to another place we visited in San Jose. e could have spent 3+ hours exploring this place. The demonstrations, the interactive exhibits, the staff, the cleanliness was all a great surprise. We went from seeing the human body exposed down to the muscles to seeing a virtual operation. This place has things to do for kids of all ages to adults. Parking downtown was not hard and reasonably priced. If you are anywhere near San Jose make the trip.

Science can be fun!

By svati_onthemove |

Highly recommend it for children and grown ups who are young at heart. It entertains, educates, involves and inspires.

Great place for Kids

By flynford |

It’s always a fun place for our kids and myself. Get out of the house and spend a few hours with the family learning about a variety of things. Love the IMAX theatre!!!

Great place for young children

By 45ram45 |

This is a good place for the small set. Pre school, kindergarten etc.
parking and access are easy. Staff is very helpful

This is a review of the Imax Theater - not the whole museum

By charliespal2 |

We saw Star Wars 'The Last Jedi' in the Imax theater. It was quite a dissappointing experience. First, the rows of seats are very close together, I'm only 5' 6" and felt cramped. The others in my group were all over 6' and said they were very uncomfortable for the entire movie. The Imax screen is so large that even if you sit in the very back (the best place to sit in this theater), you can not see the whole screen without turning your head. This is much like sitting in the first row of a non-Imax theater. The faster the action, the faster you have to look side to side and up and down. The edges of the image were fuzzy - I'm not sure why, maybe it was the curvature of the dome, but it got to be quite annoying. I would NOT recommend seeing a regular movie here. The movies made for Imax are fun and pleasurable, but I would not choose to see a regular movie in this format again. Parking can be a challenge. There are many lots and parking structures around but you may have to hunt around and park several blocks away.

Fantastic fun!

By Saw65 |

I love bringing any kids here. It is very educational without seeming that way. So much to do, touch, and see. Any child will have fun.

Always interesting

By dfairchild2017 |

I used to come here all the time when my children were younger. I recently returned with my 12 year old nephew, and he liked it. Some of the old favorites like the earthquake simulator are still there, but there are newer exhibits as well. I remember my children being able to stay engaged all day. My nephew lost interest after a few hours, but that could be due to personality differences. We just opted to go to an imax movie and he enjoyed that. Always a great way to spend time. Educational and fun.

Tech Museum of Innovation

By lynnk896 |

My work team Visited this Museum last year. It would definitely be great for kids, but it was interesting event venue.

a colossal waste

By Joe C |

Great for anyone who enjoys watching thousand kids ages 4 to 16, push buttons but not learn or understand what their doing. The staff knows about as much about the exhibits as do the kids.

Place for Geeks

By Meagan Y |

Lots of fascinating information. Disappointed that a lot of the interactive displays were not intuitive (and we're pretty tech savvy) and/or didn't work.

A great place for elementary school age kids

By Aleina M |

There is always something to see or do at the Tech. My kids (both boys) really enjoy themselves here. The IMAX theatre has revolving shows so check before you go to see what is playing.

Great place to play with technology

By maw8 |

I love this place. Been coming for years! Even though lots of the exhibits remain the same they are really cool (space, earthquake, roller coaster) they always have something new going on. My family also loves the theater and the wonderful nature shows that are included with our membership.

Completely for children but interesting

By Amanda W |

I didn't realise the museum was aimed at children, but there were still a few exhibits that were interesting and informative for adults. Worth going with kids for sure!

Wonderful place

By rajmaster |

We visited with my granddaughter. She had a blast and enjoyed all the varied activities in the museum.

Technical Difficulties

By That1Hooligan |

A museum and experience aimed at kids but still enjoyable by adults. For an exhibit based on technology everything seemed out of date. Quite a few of the exhibits had issues or were not working. While outdated in my opinion, the exhibits were still enjoyable and educational.

If they updated several things I would reccomend this to everyone. In the current state I can only suggest this to families with kids 11 and under. I think the tech here is geared more to the curiosity of that age.

Good children museum for introduction to science

By Michael K |

Admission price is relatively steep, at $28 for children and $36 for adults. But the high prices do keep the crowd away even on a weekend. The interactions are mainly targeted for young children and they loved it, even though the underlying science and the mechanics of most of the games are beyond their comprehension without parental help. But if you are old enough to know a little of the science behind the games, you might find them too juvenile.

Cool museum for younger kids

By Sjl |

Came with 14 year old. Still some cool stuff but would have stayed all day when he was 6. Body exhibit is worth seeing for all ages.

This is geared toward younger kids.

By Kathy D |

My two grown sons and I spent a little time here. There were 2 exhibits that interested us more than the others. First of all, both of my sons experienced the Jet Pack Chair, while I got a kick out of watching them. Secondly, we immersed ourselves in an interactive map of the world.

Don't Miss this Outstanding Experince When You're in San Jose

By MsMouseCalifornia |

If you love science and discovery and you want to do something fun and educational with your kids (teens, too) then this is the place for you. Too many fantastic things to see and do---I can't begin to mention them all. However, the Tech Museum is definitely the place to go see IMAX films. It's also a great date night (or day) place. It's an exciting place for everyone to visit, no matter what age. Have big fun!

Dissapointing

By Grace M |

This museum advertised itself as breaking edge new technology of Silicion Valley, however it was dissapointing to say the least. The some of the staff were friendly enough, however the exhibits were kind of lacking. Being into art I was so excited to try out the new google 3D tilt brush, but they said it was booked out for today and we couldnt do it.

Was not worth the full price of $25 each for two adults.

Great place to go with kids!

By Antonia C |

My kids love spending time at this museum. It has a lot of hands on exhibits and they can run from one to the next. Be sure to go downstairs to the earthquake simulator if you are visiting California and want to see what an earthquake feels like!

20th Anniversary Celebration -1998 to 2018

By Tim D |

As a former employee of The Tech (when it was on San Carlos St.) in San Jose, CA, I was a participant in the 20th Anniversary celebration of the new Tech Museum of Innovation on Market Street in downtown. Over 300 people associated with the Tech attended the after-hours anniversary celebration, including former staff, friends, and supporters. A spectacular IMAX show, program, and great food and drink accompanied the gathering. Thanks to The Tech for inspiring and educating generations of people in science, math, technology and engineering!

Pretty nice

By Alex B |

I visited it twice, but I think the usual 30 bucks they charge is a bit steep for what they offer. Otherwise it's a pretty nice experience, with interesting experiments (earthquake comes to mind).

Name says it all

By Heather W |

This is a family friendly museum dedicated to technology. It was a little bit geared more towards teens and adults. A very long line at the DNA cell building exhibit as well as the VR exhibits. They are part of ASTC reciprocal program. Double check your membership card from your local museum to see if it has ASTC logo on it.

Interesting

By kmc11_11 |

My family visited The Tech Museum while on vacation in June. We found the museum very interesting for the whole family. Lots of interactive and hands on exhibits that caught the attention of both teens and adults. The Body Worlds exhibit is interesting, though not recommended for younger children.

We spent 3-4 hours in The Tech, and ate lunch at the Tech Cafe' before moving on to our next activity. Lunch was good, nice dining space, good service and convenient.

Parking is available in the near by Convention Center for $5.00, no matter how long you stay. Just be sure to get your parking ticket validated at the information/admission desk to get the discount.

We are members of our local science center in Pennsylvania, so by presenting our membership card we received free basic admission to The Tech Museum. (see ASTC Travel Passport Program website for information on centers that participate) We did not do IMAX or other additional cost activities, and they said that the IMAX would be closing soon for several months of renovations.

Very advanced

By Clint0n_81 |

You need to take your time to visit all the exhibits that require you to interact and get busy. Very good exhibits related to the latest tech and biomedical sciences.

Not bad.....something to do in San Jose

By higoomgala |

Went here the next day after a long flight. Good way to spend maybe 2-3 hours. Fair price, but need a lot of patience if you're gonna build the robots properly.

Great place of learning. Best for second graders and up. Check if your local mueseum has a reciprocal agreement !

By Elizabeth B |

So much learning ! It was very overwhelming and not much to do for my 3 year old but I wanted my 9 and 6 year old to experience it.
Building a robot was a hit. The space area the station computers were not working

Could use an entire day in here. The kids loved ( as did mom) the identify the scent station and learning about how bacteria multiply

Definitely for older kids and limited for preschoolers. My older 2 boys loved hint

Our local mueseum had a reciprocity with this one. We saved 90$ on our family of 5 admission!

You Need to Like STEM to Enjoy

By ROCtraveler30 |

As STEM-loving older adults we enjoyed the museum - in spite of about 500 screaming children on school trips. We found some of the hands-on exhibits to be quite engaging, while others were either broken or too difficult to figure out. We had seen a larger version of the "body" exhibit somewhere else a few years ago. To get the most out of this museum you need to be willing to try things and get down and play with the kids.

Really cool place!

By CanadianVacationer04 |

I was in San Jose for the ASTC (Association of Science and Technology conference) so being from another science centre, believe me when I say, this place rocks! Lots to discover with technology as it's foundation. They have a fairly new Bio Med area with the most interesting and angaging exhibits related to health and oiur bodies. Body Worlds was also there as a travelling exhibition. IPads are given as part of your BW visit and when you come upon certain artifacts, a hologram appears in front of you and provides additional information. I loved it!

Fantastic with very engaging hands on exhibits

By Camilla B |

Wonderful hands on exhibits. One of the best science museums I have visited and we live in Boston! Many of the local technology companies sponsor exhibits and we really enjoyed some of the virtual reality exhibits.

Kids museum

By karen19752016 |

Went there expecting something different. Basically a children’s museum; very boring for adults. If u have kids, they might like it but if not, skip it.

Tech museum of innovation

By Anne C |

Excellent displays and activities. Especially for the young and young at heart. This is an amazing learning place. A nice variety of things to experience. Helpful staff. Lots of school field trips. BUSY PLACE.

Good interactive session

By Ravishankar S |

Good for kids of all ages
Can easily spend half a day with kids.
Robot making, craft making, cyber sec awareness are very good

See the Human body exhibit

By Joseph P |

The Human body exhibit is one of the best I've seen, and we are both Health Care providers. The Bacteria DNA mixing - hands on experience was great for all ages, as well as the 3-D virtual painting.

Ideal for Kids

By J_Traveller_C |

What a nice idea, breaks things down to really make you think about things and explain various topics.
IT Security is my field, and I loved the way they broke down the basics to help explain this complicated subject.

Awesome museum for the whole family. Excelente museo para toda la familia.

By Randy T |

Awesome science museum to learn about the human body and scientific breakthroughs to better the world and help mankind.

Great Museum for Kids between 8-12

By Roary |

Using my membership from my local science center, I visited this place as I had free access through the ASTC passport program. I checked it out to see if it was worth taking my kids the next time I visit San Jose. I would definitely bring them back because they would be the perfect age.

From the outside, the facility looks huge, but I realized when I went inside, a good portion of space is dedicated to the IMAX which I did not go to. The museum portion is smaller than expected, but still a decent size. I was quite impressed with the number of high quality interactive exhibits for children, which is great, because it makes it much more immersive. Of course, the BodyWorlds portion is probably the one exhibit that needs a fair amount of explanation before entering, and only parents would know whether their children would be ready to see it.

Overall, in terms proportion of high-tech hands-on exhibits, it's probably the best children's science center I've been too (maybe due to the high number Silicon Valley sponsors?), but certainly not the biggest. Can be quite costly, so I'm glad they are part of the ASTC program. I would definitely take my kids here. I only spent 45min walking through, but if I had my kids with me, I can easily imagine being there for 2 hours to try everything.

I wish I had my kids with me!

By Henrique_WestOz |

If you are in San Jose it is a must to visit. One the best museums I've ever been to. Lots of interactive displays, very informative and engaging. And I got free entry because of food donation. I would highly recommend for young and old. I so wish I had my kids with me, they would have loved it!

Sky's visit

By SyvieGi |

Awesome 'hands on teaching' place . Very good for Homeschoolers and their parents. Good for Home Schooled groups.

Fun place for kids

By I_See_the_World_Now |

We take our 5th grade students here every year. They are always updating the museum. It is clean and fun for adults and kids.

Not worth your money

By Dana L |

This place definitely needs a revamp because it's really expensive and their show rooms & experiments are just not good. Probably the ground floor is the only area that is interesting and has good displays. Definitely would not recommend.

Mostly for kids

By lifeisforlearning |

Less for adults here than for kids but we enjoyed the VR experiences (you must sign up for a time slot so go there first) and the earthquake simulator.

Very cool!

By Stephani A |

Completely different from your usual museum. Lots of hands on exhibits to play around with. Great for kids! You can easily spend several hours there!

Fun for young kids

By larry z |

Lots of interesting exhibits for adults, but also plenty for kids. We brought a 3 and six year old and they went non-stop for over two hours. Everything is interactive so they can touch every exhibit even if they can't grasp the full meaning.

Family event

By mgflood |

My grandchildren kept busy enjoying the many activities offered. Adults engaged as well giving the opportunity to spend time together as a family.

We would like to visit again

Fun for the family

By satcon25 |

I've gone here several times with my children and this is probably one of the best places to go and learn about technology in the bay area. Great for both young and old alike! I'm a techie and find even I was learning a lot of fun things.

Good Nature Movies at the Tech, San Jose, Ca

By mini |

I went to see the nature movie Back from the Brink at the Tech. The theater is very nice to see nature movies at. The Tech is in the downtown area of San Jose. There is also a museum, but this time, I only went to see the movies. There is also a cafe and store.

Great for the Science Buffs!

By AnnetteSteele |

I went on with a group to the museum yesterday. The one exhibit I want to use was not allowed for people in a group. However there were plenty of devices just sitting there unused throughout the day that could have been enjoyed by us "groupies". This was disappointing. The exhibits could have used more volunteers explaining. The volunteers that were there were very helpful though. Sorry but I actually prefer another science museum in San Francisco on the Pier.

Not for adults- overpriced

By Ameera Williams |

Like someone has mentioned below, this museum is mainly geared towards kids. If you have children- it’s fantastic but if you don’t, it’s not so fantastic. Also, tickets were $25 each for an adult. Not worth $50 in my opinion for a children’s museum. It would be beneficial if the staff selling the tickets would tell you this as you’re about to purchase.

Brad Bergantz

By Brad B |

Tech Museum is a very interesting and interactive place to see new tech innovations. There are exhibits here for the whole family

Great Museum Especially for Young Children

By Nick B |

This is more of a hands on Tech Museum for young children and teens. Excellent exhibits on bio & robotic technologies. The IMAX is one of the original Dome designs and offers current feature films and documentaries. Be sure to take advantage of Free Admission for members of the military. Buy a membership and ask about NARM & ASTC reciprocal discounts.

Nice place for young kids

By chotika_pui |

The place is fun if your kids are really into science&experiment. At Imax theatre, we watched Star Wars. It was fun, but the seats were very uncomfortable.

The Tech San Jose

By grwpl |

Visited to see the bodyworks exhibition which was interesting and informative. The rest of the show was mainly aimed at children with lots of hands on exhibits.

Suitable for Kids

By ANANTHARAJ T V |

Located inside downtown.
Mostly suitable for kids as it can explain practically technical stuff.
Still adults can enjoy the contents.
Please make sure to take your school going kids.

High Tech at its best

By nspisak |

Very informative...the guide we had was very good ans was able to explain all the ins and out of the Intel Company to us

Well worth the visit

By Sean Foreman |

Lots of fun exhibits for children of all ages (and those that never grew up too!!) Great for a wet day too.

All about Technology and science.

By moji m |

Good for kids and teenagers. Biology Robotic Space Cyber and more. Have many workshop like Robotic, Safety drop test teaching your kid for safety mobile usage. My kids love it.

Christmas Party

By Vinnie L |

The staff and the place was a great place for a Christmas Party. The food and drinks was laid out on every floor. Plenty of room for dancing.

Mesmerizing for adults. Enchanting for kids.

By bigdgunferd |

One of the best days spent in San Jose was with the grand kids at the Tech Museum. There are TONS of thought-provoking and engaging displays. Many of them are hands (or feet) on. I didn't love every exhibit, but there were a few I couldn't leave. And the kids never wanted to leave. Lots of creations that you probably didn't know existed until years later when you found them in stores.

Good number of exhibits to explore

By Jose Lejin P J |

Great place to visit with good number of exhibits to explore. It is s a science and technology center in San Jose. It has many exhibits dealing with energy efficiency, customization, exploration and genetics. The interactive exhibit to design and build robots was really nice. Staff are friendly and helpful.

very good tech displays

By sanjaya58 |

i visited at 15.30 pm and came to know that the museum closes at 17.00 pm. so with in that short time i tried my best to see as much as possible.
some displays are very cutting edge and futuristic like the whole body scanner display of a dead young african male.also the biodesign section was very good.
some displays were interactive.
the museum is small compared to the big ones elsewhere, but it is cute and innovative.i liked it and recommend to other visitors.

Not a museum!

By Rosa0506 |

Not a museum at all - poorly named as there was no history focus. A great place for kids but not much appeal for adults and some of the interactive displays did not even work.

Lots of Fun

By elizabeth b |

We went here on a quick afternoon visit after arriving in San Jose. There were lots of interesting exhibits of all different areas. Some simulations had a long wait time but most were quick.

Lots of fun for ALL ages ... NOT just kids

By KweqSmanit |

I really enjoyed my time here and it was both interesting and fun.In my opinion it is fun for all ages.

Close to the light rail line and accompanied with a cafe inside the museum has many fun and fascinating hands on exhibits to do, use, see, watch, and partake in concerning many aspects of both past and present technology.

The medical bio exhibits may be the most fascinating for adults and for kids they really seemed to enjoy the exhibits which were more physical, such as the jumping up and down to measure the seismic output.

Might be great for children

By Dan H |

Not sure what to expect but all geared for children. Cafe was a good lunch stop. Did enjoy the Earth quake simulation. Went because the art museum was closed that day.

The heck with Tech

By TravelEditorRetired |

OK..so I'm not a techie but I thoroughly enjoy visits with the grandkids or younger family members.. Kids vote: 5 stars. My vote -3 stars.. Kids win!

Fantastic Afternoon Visit

By Roger Q |

The Tech Museum has spent the last 5 years redoing all its exhibit space and that massive effort clearly shows. Body Worlds Decoded has an augmented reality feature added on top that really makes this new 10-year exhibit a winner. Body Worlds was last here in The Tech's Parkside Hall in 2011, so some of you may be familiar with the plastination. Last time there was an extra fee, this time a generous donation from a VC partner has this exhibit included in the price of admission. Seriously, go see it.
On top of that, there is a maker space, cyber detectives and a social robots space. All of these are hands on innovation experiences and not a typical museum fare.
My favorite part of The Tech was the TheTech for Global Good pods. They explain how TheTech is funding technology around the world to improve the lives of those most in need. It's awe inspiring for the older kids and grown ups while the younger set does some gene splicing on the upper level.
Go visit TheTech. You'll love it.

Something for all ages!

By FLGreekGirl |

If you're a tech lover or fascinated by history, this place will totally ring your bell! Multiple floors of exhibits that will make you happy. Fun hands-on exhibits for kids of all ages (hey I enjoyed them as a big kid). PLUS, there's the IMAX theatre and who doesn't love a movie on the big screen and surround sound.

It's also a GREAT place for an event that will keep your attendees entertained. Planned a party there last year that was a big hit.

Fun and learning for the whole family

By constantinosb2018 |

The games of exponential growth, creating natural camouflage etc. along with observing cells, looking at the exact anatomy of humans, and observing the mars landscape, make the Tech a fun place for the whole family. We learn a lot while playing and strolling though the rooms. Plenty of parking around. Allocation at least 3 hours to visit all the rooms.

nice learning experience

By scotthH3148SB |

Good for school kids to experience, stimulate thought processes, and some hands on activities. Very educational

Dated innovation but fun for kids

By Bacinac |

As an adult techie I wasn't impressed. I expected more like the museum of science and industry in Chicgo but it was more like an old toy box that you sort through to reminisce.

That said--it looked like kids were having a great time. There seem to be a lot fun activities for children and the parents. Very interactive. The staff was super friendly and seemed to truly enjoy the work.

I may have walked in with wrong expectations. Oh -- to be a kid again!

Fun place to visit

By DolphinMermaid |

Easy to spend 4-6 hours here; lot's of fun things to do. I would say that the SF Exploratorium is better, but this is still a good place to visit. I would recommend taking light rail -- it's < 10 minute walk from there to the museum and you can avoid parking hassles. There is underground parking across the street, but it can be pricey.

LOVE it! I'm going every time I'm in SJC

By delightfullydeanne |

I first went there last fall with 3 of my grand children while visiting family in San Jose. We spent all day there. Even though I live in Utah, I bought a pass. Five months later, I took a different grand child with me and she loved it! I was there last weekend with another grand son and it was his favorite too! I plan to visit every time I am in San Jose.

Awesome hands on museum

By Kinmar2013 |

we love science museums and this one was great. We only had 2 hours and only managed 2 exhibits. Could have easily spent a full day there with our 8yo son.

Stuff for all ages!

By 1GypsyWoman |

Lots of interactive stuff to do for everyone! IMAX movie "Super Dogs" was great..... sit all the way up at the top for the best viewing!

field trip

By Jess G |

With a group of junior high students, this was a pretty good day away from a class. The general exhibits were seven and eight on a ten point scale overall. There were a couple which were "out for repairs" or had a long line. The snack area was a bit city-price and the gift shop was HUGE and ready to take spare spending money. [Do not go empty pockets!].
Parking was a little difficult, but with a hike and use of the paid lot, we did OK. There is also an IMAX theater, so check showing and times to plan accordingly.

Only for adults with kids

By Kaiden F |

I was disappointed in the amount of exhibits they have geared toward adults and older people. This place would be great for parents with kids 5+, but not for college students.

Excelent Science and technology Museum

By Johnh S |

Be prepared for lots of children. There will be kids everywhere. Outside of that, All of the exhibits are interactive. Almost all are closely supervised and all provide insight into technology, Science or both. From Biology to physics and computer science there are exhibits for everyone.

Fabulous!!

By cabearcat |

Bring the kids; bring the grandkids, heck, bring the adults! This is a jewel in downtown San Jose. Truly an amazing place for all ages!! Took my daughter and two grandsons here when visiting this past summer, and I was so impressed that I bought a membership. Thank you Silicon Valley for bringing such a fabulous place to the City of San Jose.

Adults will enjoy this too

By ChiliGirl |

Fun, innovative, interactive displays and helpful volunteers make this a great place for anyone to spend a couple of hours.

Entertainingly Terrible

By Eamon O |

This whole place felt like a modern art piece about everything wrong with technology. The exhibits were very dramatic and overdesigned and didn't have much substance. There were a lot of giant touch screens where if you scanned your ticket and hit five or six buttons, it would show a few sentences of info that could've just been on a sign. Everything was based on strange gimmicks like that.

Fortunately, I love dumb technology gimmicks and fancy touch screens, so if you're into that, you'll have a great time.

The whole place also has a strange unfinished, empty feel to it, or at least it did the day I went. Again, didn't bother me, since it meant I didn't have to wait in line for things and what was finished was entertaining, but it was still weird.

I ended up spending most of the afternoon in a individual VR headset demo, which was awesome, but not a particularly logical thing to have in a museum which presumably is supposed to have more than six people to a floor, which is how it was for me.

So if all this sounds fun to you, go for it.

Patchy but when it's good it's very good

By SumantBh |

Lots of exhibits, especially in the basement were not working and it was crowded meaning it was near- impossible to enjoy. We were going to complain, but the inspiring healthcare and science sections on the top floor, along with the robot area at the bottom saved it for the kids (10 and 9), my wife and me. Topped off with the iMax and my two were enthused about science and tech - job done!
A small tip - eat at the excellent cafe nearby art museum rather than in the cafe in the Tech Museum if it's crowded.

Hands on Fun

By Camille P |

I was impressed by the abundance of hands-on exhibits. The earthquake simulator is a must try (scary). Great place for children to introduce them to the fun of science and technology.

Great place for adults as well as kids

By ina504 |

The Tech Museum is a South Bay Gem-fortunate to have this wonderful museum available to kids and adults alike. Fascinating, engaging displays and interactive activities for all. Have been taking grandsons (now 5-15) since oldest was 5-they all LOVE IT-as do we, Grandma & Grandpa.

Had fun but wish my son could have done some of the larger activities.

By journeyseeker1974 |

Went to the tech museum for the first time with my son. We had fun building the robot and looking at the bodies exhibit. However, a lot of the activities were for really young kids and my sons 9. We got to the upper floor and he was so excited for the flight simulator and pain painting via imagery. Unfortunately he was too young for those activities. Kinda of bummed. But still great place to go.

Great for the Whole Family

By photoshop101 |

This place was amazing! Every topic you could think of was covered here and more. This was our second time, but it was just as interesting as the first time. There are exhibits for the young kids, the teenagers, and the adults. I would recommend this museum to anyone with a free afternoon in San Jose. Worth every penny!

Hands On Place To Be For Children or Adults

By dbwbear |

We went here to see all the science related exhibits and the IMAX film, "DREAM BIG". We did the biometrics monitor (10 and over only) and it was free. Loved the new Biodesign exhibit and all the robotics and space exploration ones. Highly hands on and you can be entertained, amazed and intellectually stimulated all at the same time. The movie was inspiring.

Body world exhibit!

By Anna D |

So I went here with friends not my first choice but it was fantastic! The Body Worlds exhibit was really fascinating and educational.
It was unexpectedly low on children which was enjoyable given the friends I visited with and meant that we got to test out all the activities.

Great place to spend the day!

By Vasundhara P |

We had a great time at the Tech museum in San Jose. My boys loved the robotics section, earthquake simulator and space section. Would also recommend the virtual reality section although we ran out of time to explore that.

Excellent educational museum

Most of the exhibits are multimedia making it more "accessible" and enjoyable for youngsters and others interested in Technology. Although the place does not offer parking, it is easily accessible by public transport thstcomesto the door step.it can be reached easily by the DASH free shuttle from the Diridon Cal train station. If you are hungry grab a bite from the restaurant since there is very little on offer rin the surrounding neighborhood.

Mostly for kids

By Hizonfire |

Flashy, interactive and colorful - the Tech Museum of Innovation is the perfect destination if you have school age kids. But if you're an adult without any kiddie companions, you might find it loud, shallow and boring.

The exhibits are mostly interactive and about scientific concepts. Most of them are activated using the barcode in the ticket while others are manipulatives, interactions with a screen. This is fine and an excellent teaching tool for kids interested in STEM but for adults seeking more detailed explanations, the documentation is a bit lacking.

There are several interesting sections like Cyber Detectives and giving kids an introduction to how the Internet works, how to code and how to build robots. But it's laid out more like an activity center with its scattered layout and some activities are closed off because there's too many people (kids actually) inside. If you're looking for how Silicon Valley developed into the world's leading center for innovation, it's not here. Better try the Computer History Museum at Mountainview.

You can also hold birthday parties inside the Museum and they have an impressive 8 storey high IMAX theater dome, which is a highlight in itself.

Fantastic

Nice thing about this place is it has something for the younger kids. I expected it to be geared mainly around kids 12 and up. But I found my 3 year old had a blast when I took her. Great time for all. Make sure to check out the IMAX!

Terrible service!

By Hei N |

I had a simple question for this museum. I found an incomplete answer on their website and I required a more complete answer. So, I called their listed help number and followed the automated menu to the help line. I was hold for over 9 minutes. During the 9 minutes, I was encouraged to email my question or leave a message and the “next available” person would respond. At the end of the 9 minutes, it forced me to the answering machine. I left a message and also sent an email, but got no response from either route. I find this terrible customer service to be unprofessional and unacceptable. I will actively dissuade others from visiting.

Good way to spend a few hours

A very hands on museum that was good fun for all, covering a range of tech and science themes with different exhibits and activities to what we have seen elsewhere. Our teenagers were very happy there and by all accounts younger ones seemed to be too.

Great place with plenty of valuable information

By Lokesh |

This is a nice place for all ages including kids. There is plenty of information with activities which makes the visit an interactive learning experience. There is also imax which also shows some really interesting films…I would definitely recommend this place

Great place for kids to learn about technology.

By CanadianJoe |

My son enjoyed the interactive robot. Great place to explore technology and where it's headed. They have something for all ages of children.

Just okay!

I took my 9 yr old daughter and a friend here. It give them something to do before we attended a musical at the Performing Art Center. This place may be a good place if you need a raining day activity for the kids. The activities are just okay. My daughter's favorite was the earthquake machine and the space chair experiences.

This places is so big you would think they would fill it with more cool activities. I highly recommend
going to the SF Exploratorium if you get a chance instead. This place pales in comparison to the Exploratorium.

Btw, there is a discount for BOA card holders.

So much more than a museum

This is a hands on science experience for the whole family. We've been coming here since our 18 year old daughter was a baby and we just went again this week. We enjoyed the Body Worlds exhibit and also visited some favorites like the earthquake simulator. It is a great time with kids of all ages and also features an IMAX theater so you can catch Star Wars when you're done!

Fun and educational

My kids loved this place and really enjoyed their time at the Tech Museum of Innovation.
People working in the museum were very helpful and friendly with all visitors specially the kids.
This museum was very interesting and exciting because kids were actually able to experiment everything that was there. We had a great time as a family and we all learned a lot about Technology and things that might be in the market soon!
I definitely recommend to check this place out, but good luck finding a parking, when we visited their parking was full, and the street parking was only for 30 minutes and if you’re paying over $100.00 to get in, 30 minuets isn’t enough to see one section as most stations are interactive and there is a line ....
my husband had to go back and change parking a couple of times.

Not much help from staff

By yolanda h |

The place is very nice and has lots of hands on and many science things to see for the kids it's awesome, the only thing that really disappointed me is the staff (very young maybe college kids) who are suppose to be helping the visitors and they just stand there and do nothing. There was a hands on workshop and I nor my son knew what to do and we asked the guy who was there and he said just go in and look at other people and he turned away and kept walking, I asked another person there and they said, well just build a robot, but I didn't know how and they just didn't explain it like we were suppose to know what to do. The kids who were there before and obviously knew what to do were doing them, we tried but it was hard since I didn't know what to teach my son.

Very cool for kids of ALL ages

By bbihler |

These guys always have something for all ages. Oh let's qualify that. For the wee little ones there's the Discovery Museum, for everyone else there's the Tech Museum. Like most museums there's a never ending stream of themes and exhibits, and don't forget the IMAX theater with a mix of special films and first run Hollywood releases (at the moment they're screening Dunkirk). Anyway, one of the don't miss spots in San Jose.

Watch you own children!!

By PaulDaLine |

Parents need to pay more attention to their own children. NOT a child care service.
If you are meeting friends there, pay attention to your kids and not your adult friends.
Have been to this museum 3 times already and the kids don't want to go back, bored.
Kids are ages 7 and 4.

bring the kids!

By williamNola |

we got to the museum just as they were opening up and there were kids waitng outside with their teachers. how nice. these kids get to go on a field trip, i thought. when we got inside we realized, other than teachers, we were the only adults in the place. luckily we were both retired teachers and were very comfortable being surrounded by all those children. the place is very interactive with activities for all age groups. we spent two hours watching students go through all the activities. they were enjoying themselves as they learned. that's the way it's supposed to be. it also had one of the best gift shops i've seen in a long time and a decent snack bar.

Tech to touch

I loved this place. Have been there with our three kids and we enjoyed our stay. A lot to explore. Recommend to go there.

So much fun!

Me and the kids absolutely love this place! There are so many interactive exhibits which entertain the kids while also teaching a lot of useful information. The IMAX theater is always incredible, and the temporary exhibits always teach us something new and exciting.

GREAT for 9-11yr olds

By 808Momx2 |

BY FAR one of the highlights of our San Jose trip. My 9 and 11 yr old kids had a blast. If you have membership to your local science museum and you reciprocate (ASTC passport program), this museum will be FREE. Make sure you retain your ticket stub because you need them to play the interactive games. Easily could have spent 4-5 hrs there but we only had 3.

Loved the bodies expo

By Traveller |

Liked our time here. The bottom floor is suitable for kids and very interactive and more about space , whereas the top floor explores VR (with a cool flying experience for an extra 8 dollars) and has an amazing bodies expo which I LOVED...Would have definitely gone even just for that.

By hoteljunkies |

The exhibits have changed and are updated over the years. Very interesting from a technological standpoint. Enjoyed the dome IMAX. The cafe is a bit crowded.

Great for kids only.

By Paul H |

This was a solo visit, so as a result there were no kids with me. The exhibits are relatively few for an adult, but more than enough for an 8 year old. They looked pretty good too. Well organised and lots of guidance from the staff.

Good fun

I had time to kill and, having volunteered at the old Tech Museum in the early 90s, I thought I'd check this out.

There are lots of different exhibits and I think families could spend hours there with all the interactive stuff that kids love.

There are a lot of staff & volunteers there to help you out though I think in some areas they are not very good at telling you what their particular area has to offer.

There is something for everyone there from environmental advances to high tech innovation.

As I said, children will really love it.

To me, the sad thing is its location - I hadn't been to downtown San Jose for at least 15 years and it was far worse than I remembered it. Unfortunately there are a lot of pan handlers and homeless people who, as a woman on my own, made me feel very uncomfortable. I'd intended to have some lunch in the area before heading back to the hotel but did not feel happy to do so. On the plus side it is super easy to get to on the Light Rail.

Lots of Fun Science to Explore

By elwood9 |

Had a great time, with lots of really interesting things to explore. Some of the displays were really mind blowing. A few had some functional issues.

Also lots of interactive activities in work areas.

Funnest thing were the rooms in the security area where you were closed in a room and used various tools and clues to solve a mystery. Not super hard, but really fun. Also the computer anatomical display was amazing.

Only minor complaints, some areas closed early, and activities only took in new people in waves. Didn't see a schedule to know this, and seemed like you got in on activities by just happening to be in the right place at the right time. Being able to have the ability to know what these activities were and then planned to do them might have made this an even better visit.

Best for little kids

By John&Dawny |

Labeled as Tech Interactive, I expected my 15 year old grandson, who loves everything electronic, would love it. It’s more like a children’s museum than a Tech one. Would be fine for 5-10 year olds. A real bust for us.
