Turtles!

By Simi |

Great spot to see some turtles, go snorkling or just sunbath at the beach. It wasn't crowded at all when we went on a July afternoon. Beautiful beach and nice water. Be careful of the rocks, you may want to wear some swimming shoes!

Fun and beautiful but, be careful

By justthefacts41 |

This is a wonderful sandy, mostly protected beach that is open to hotel guests and the public alike. It has great amenities including Roy's Beach Bar. The big caveat is that there is NO Lifeguard and a caution to only swim on the right side of the beach protected by a coral wall. This is the main reason I'm writing this review is to warn others to enjoy this gem of a beach safely.
Sadly we witnessed the result of vacationers not listening to the cautions posted and reminded via bull horn by the staff. A lady lost her life in front of my family when swept out via riptide into the ocean waves on the *left side of the beach. Hotel personnel tried to help and the real lifesavers, who performed beautifully, arrived too late. If there was a jet ski stationed on the beach, the person could have been rescued in a timely fashion. My feeling is that all beaches on the north shore should have lifeguards and safety equipment like a jet ski close by. If lifeguard and safety equipment available, it would be 5 star.
Wonderful beach but, please be careful!

Turtle Watching

By Pam D |

The first time we went by we didn't see any turtles, then the next time, there was a beautiful turtle on the beach. The area is beautiful, but parking is a premium.

Beautiful and quite

By Katie |

Beautiful area . So quiet and not super busy like Waikiki beach area . So beautiful hotel . And so beautiful view . Definitely recommend!

No turtles

By Victoria B |

We drove up to Turtle Bay Resort and walked on the public beach in an effort to find a sea turtle, but spotted nothing. This was really disappointing. Oh well!

Meandered around here after leaving the Turtle Bay stables

By AZMichele |

Beautiful, clean beach with gorgeous views. We wandered around enjoying the atmosphere after experiencing riding the area on horses. Would definitely do again.

Great snorkeling for beginners

By James C |

Tons and tons of fish, but no turtles while we were there. We saw many of them elsewhere. The surf is very calm thanks to the reef. There is equipment to rent, it is part of the resort fee if you are a guest of the resort. See my other review for details about the resort.

Hawaii canned for tourist

By Chris M |

So we were recommended to come here by friend that said this was one of the best beaches on the island. As soon as we arrived we realize that that title of best beach had passed, as it was strewn with trash and remnant from poor upkeep and lack of care. The beach is very narrow and very crowded due to the resort, which makes it very unenjoyable. Take the time and drive a few miles at the beach to experience more pure Hawaii!

Nice beach with snorkel rentals and beach cabanas.

By PepperSeaside_CA |

Water was murky the day we used the beach so we didn't see much. Despite that we had a good time. Food at the nearby restaurant is expensive so bring your own snacks if you are on a budget.

Small, crowded but safe beach for swimming and snorkelling in the winter

By kingswood1 |

Smallish beach, quite crowded but very safe for swimming and snorkelling, even in the winter. No lifeguard, so you need to keep a close eye on children. You can rent chairs, towels, snorkelling gear from turtle bay resort. Also, food and drinks can be purchased on site, $$ pricey. But it is convenient... Free parking, you do not have to stay at the resort to use this beach.

Sheltered by wind, overshadowed by resort

By Laura B |

Beach is small, sheltered by the wind on those types of days but as the sun sets, that’s also hidden by the giant hotel building right next to you. This beach is part of the resort...sortof. All beaches in Hawaii are public, so lots of people come during the day, many little kids.

They have a beach shower on the walk up from the beach to wash your feet or body. Bar on the beach (Roy’s).

Had read that snorkelling was good at this beach but it appears to be a man made alcove beach. I snorkelled the most of the beach. Really not much to see but a few fish. Visibility not great even without waves. Hazy water. Fish that were there seemed used to people, they did not swim away. I saw one or two small rock formations.

I would not go out of my way to visit this beach. Nearby is Kawela, 5 min away. Try there. Also part of Turtle Bay Resort.

Leisure

By Misty D |

Didnt see any turtles, the food area was somewhat pricey!!! However it was a nice time and we enjoyed the different scenery.

How cool is it to swim with the turtles

By Harry Armytage |

We purchased a full-day buss trip round the island with Hawaii Turtle tours. Not surprisingly, the highlight of the trip was swimming with the turtles. The beach was quite shallow and easy to snorkel. We shadowed the turtles as they leisurely grazed on the sea grass meadows. While our guide had advised us not to enclose the turtles and to always leave them an escape route, they seem remarkably placed and showed little interest in us.

Nice little snorkel spot

By 87kandj |

The beach at Turtle Bay is very nice. It's open to the general public not just guests. It's a great spot for families lots of gorgeous sand and the reef wall keeps the water calm and easy to swim in all year. It's a really nice spot to snorkel especially for beginners. There is a nice selection of fish and even a few sea turtles. However, if you are a snorkel enthusiast you will want to check Hanauma Bay while you are on the island.

Baby monk seal!!

By Tina Isakson |

I recommend parking at the resort but then hiking towards the nature preserve (take the trail like you're going towards the helicopter tour). Its like having a secluded private beach! We saw a monk seal that had just had a pup a few hours before and then headed out to the point (bring shoes!) where we saw another monk seal and some really cool caverns.

Very Nice Safe Beach

By 4Fixs |

Loved playing in the waves here. They are too strong, just the right size to be safe in. Nice beach with great sand.

Beautiful

By Dee C |

Nice beach, but Waimea bay is better especially In the month of December when the waves are huge. Hh

Loved it!

By Angelinadb |

We stayed in the hotel, but there are cottages and villas as well with golf course. Can not say much about those but the hotel room was roomy & well kept. The staff was very helpful, rooms clean and with a breathtaking view! We snorkeled swam in the beautiful waters and we explored her beaches around while there .

We had a great time!

Great beach!

By John C |

Great Beach and atmosphere! It is not secluded like many others on the island but it is a beautiful resort both inside and out. There is plenty of parking and plenty to do as well. Staff is very friendly.

What a place!!!

By marcdenari |

I never go back to places but l will return there. Turtle Bay Resort stands alone on the North side of Oahu!

Top Notch Resort

By Kathy S |

Stayed 14 wonderful days at this very friendly resort. Rooms, beach, restaurants, pools and golf were fabulous. A special shout out to Chelsea and “Little” Ian for exceptional service at the golf course restaurant/bar. Food was excellent here & do NOT miss their Calamari Steak!!! Mr. Kit made sure you were well taken care of and that we were very happy with our room. Be sure to dine at Pa’akai. Their Shellfish Tower and fish are very impressive. Great wait staff and bartender. This review just scratches the surface of our memorable stay.

Excellent beach with protection from large swells

By MaxRecoil |

This beach is awesome for kids and is protected from big swells depending on the direction/winds. Sand is soft and only minimal rocks compared to other beaches.

Small beach area

By SolangeM |

The water was soooo warm here on a late afternoon early evening in the bay. Although the waves were a bit more intense just past the rocks. We saw no turtles which we were hoping for as they are known for perhaps we came too late. The beach area open to the public isn't very big and the sand is a lot more coarse and rocky so if your wanting white soft sandy beaches this is not one of them.

Tourist beach

By Tracy |

Associated with resort so crowded. With people on the beach and I’m the water. If you like tourist with rentals chairs etc then you will enjoy. If not go up the street and take a short hike to more private beach Kawela bay

Small but Pretty

By Jeremy C |

A small beach right by the Turtle Bay resort. Plentiful parking and a nice beach restaurant. Didn't see many fish but the beach is very pleasant.

One of the best beaches in Hawaii.

By JLP949 |

Beautiful, unspoiled, all to yourselves. Steps from the Turtle Bay resort. Absolutely breath taking.

Happen to stop at the right time

By Amanda K |

My husband and I decided on a Wednesday morning to get in our rental car and drive the coast all the way around. Such and amazing drive we stopped here to check out the views. It was definitely busy due to all the tour guide buses and what not. We did get lucky to see the turtles swimming and laying up on the beach as well. Such an amazing experience. There were two ladies who were keeping all the crazy tourists from getting to close to them which I highly respect them for.

Great quiet beach!!

By riva9129 |

To the left of Turtle Bay Resort. Great clean beach plenty of parking all good.
Turtles here sunning usually in the morning. Feeding during daytime.
Decent for snorkeling, if have a rental car def stop here for lunch and a great beach

So toll! Those who have time and desire should also take a look at the Turtle Bay Resort. Very worth seeing from the inside!

By Julia T |

We stayed here as our accommodation was within walking distance. It was our first day of vacation in Hawaii and we used it to go swimming on Turtle Bay Beach. It was so beautiful!
Shade spots are scarce, so it's worth stopping by in the morning if it's not so hot yet. You can walk very far into the sea.
If it gets too hot, it's worth taking a short walk to the Turtle Bay Resort (next door). It's air-conditioned there and it looks so great! Be sure to take a look! There is also an area in the back of the hotel (somewhat hidden!) about the history of Hawaii. It's worth it!

Great beach with great snorkeling

By Lace T |

We spent 3 days at this beach, swimming, snorkeling and hiking. It is one of our favorites. The beach is protected by rocks so the waves do not get too big for small kids. The snorkeling is better than Sharks Cove, in my opinion. And there are walking paths along the shoreline in either direction that offer beautiful views of the ocean. On one walk we came upon a Monk seal sunbathing on the sand! There are rentals available from the hotel that offer snorkel sets, boogie boards, lounge chairs and umbrellas at reasonable prices.

There are better, less crowded beaches. Rocky bottom makes it worse. No turtles there on our visit.

By BrooklynRider |

Some guide books recommended this beach to see sea turtles. This a crowded, cramped little beach. There is a limited amount of sand and lots of rocks and dead coral make it distinctly unpleasant. This beach is primarily one of Turtle Bay Resort’s beaches and it is evident from the moment you step on the beach; there are areas cordoned off for guests only, which forces other visitors to sit rather tightly next to each other. Not a peaceful beach. Not a pretty beach. Lots of very young children and there was litter all along the beach. Not a lot of it, but enough to destroy that Aloha spirit. We were there less than an hour and we’re ready to leave after sitting there for 15 minutes.

Ok beach if you're staying at the resort

By travels4jen |

Recently stayed at one of the condos at Turtle Bay, so we ventured onto this beach. While it's convenient and nice for those staying at the resort, it's probably not worth driving to if you're on the other side of the island. North Shore is full of beautiful beaches.

The best beach!

By Linda L |

Swimming in the ocean here feels safe and there is a good area for snorkeling. It’s family friendly and you can rent equipment if you don’t own it. The rental is spendy though.

Family wedding

By lauradm2016 |

The wedding reception was on the grass overlooking this beach. It was a beautiful setting. The beach itself is very nice. If you aren't staying at the resort, be sure to bring your own beach chairs etc as you can't use the loungers on the beach.

Beautiful secluded bay on the north shore

By BrakiWorldTraveler |

One of the best and calmest beaches on the north shore. It's set by the same name hotel, huge free parking lot in front.
You can stay on the hotels part of the beach, no one will ask you anything or go further right. Sea is calm and warm secluded in a small bay.

Great for snorkeling

By cjwchristine |

This beach, which has tons of free parking with the resort nearby, offered such a diverse variety of fish during our time snorkeling. My partner and I have snorkeled on other parts of the island, but nothing yet has lived up to the colorful fish and the sea turtles swimming about :)

Nothing quite like it...

By Rebecca E |

Turtle Bay is so remarkable, not just the beach but the entire property makes you feel like you are in paradise. The beach itself may be small but the pristine beauty, the soft sand, the swaying palms, and of course the sea turtles and seals all combine to make it perfect. Great snorkeling, swimming, even just sunning and looking up at the beautiful hotel or taking a stroll to the other side and watching people surf make you feel the island spirit. The food at the beach cafe and any other place on the property is delicious. Comfy lounge chairs. And you are away from all the noise and congestion in Waikiki but close to the many delightful sites and food on the north shore. It's all wonderful....

Beautiful

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

Absolutely beautiful but not much to do. The hotel is there and Roy's but not what we expected. Recommend somewhere else.

We visited the rosrt and we were so impressed that we want to book a stay there next year.

By Teacher20052013 |

Loved the views and the amenities at the resort and would love to stay there sometime soon. We had drinks and appetizers out on the patio by the pool overlooking the bay and it was stellar.

A Pearl of the O'Ahu

By Margarita |

The visit of this fabulously beautiful place for me was as a part of the Grand Tour Around Island with Nui Tours company. This is a beautiful bay with crystal clear water, hotel, beautiful gardens, restaurants, suitable for vacations, weddings, reunions. If you want to visit it for a day only and stay exactly at that place you can use the public transportation of Honolulu, so called "The Bus". If you want to visit it for an hour and swim there, the Grand Tour Around Island - Visiting 16 locations with Nui Tours is a good option. If you drive around the island, don't miss this place.

rocky beach area

By Pat076 |

The beach here was nice but very rocky from the coral pieces, so make sure you wear flip flops or something. I found the sand very deep, and difficult to walk in. Geez, what's to complain about in Hawaii? It was beautiful place to sit and enjoy the trade winds and enjoy the waves rolling in and out.

Polluted by too many people and chemical sunscreen products

By Pickypickyme2 |

Although this protected bay offers a reliably safe swimming site, this is a depressing place for snorkeling. Full of dead, algae and slime-smothered coral, the bay is a fully degraded environment. I saw just one live coral head on my last visit. I have never seen a turtle there. A few reef fish hang around (unfortunately, some idiots feed crackers to the fish), but the view underwater is not inspiring. The water is often murky. Changes in our oceans — warming and increasing acidity — are having a deleterious effect on all coral reefs worldwide. However, in a place like this, where too many humans use a small bay with limited water turnover, the blame for the destruction lies mostly with irresponsible people. Chemical sunscreens kill corals! I regularly see people slathering on or spraying on sunscreen before entering the water. Where do they think that stuff goes? Buy a rash guard and skip the sunscreen, or use coral-safe mineral sunscreens (zinc and titanium dioxide). Why poison the sea life you are trying to admire?

I also have a gripe against the private concession that runs the chair, umbrella and snorkel equipment rental business. I don’t know how such concessions are awarded in Hawaii, but speaking as someone from California (where all coastline is public from the median tideline to the water, and beaches designated as public are FULLY public), I think it’s offensive to have half the beach covered by a private company’s umbrellas and beach chairs. It looks junky, and it covers far too much PUBLIC territory. As a hotel guest, I tend to do a quick swim and don’t linger on the beach. Too many people!

Amazing stay

By Alisi W |

If you want a quick getaway in a quiet place away from the city, this is definitely your place. It's hidden in the north shore with great scenes of the beach, country living and a wonderful golf course. You can never go wrong no matter where you look out of this hotel.

Views go forever

By Jo A |

This resort has a number of accommodation options. Eight of us stayed in a villa consisting of two bathrooms and four large double suites - two with ocean views kitchen and laundry. The resort caters for everyone and is well laid out. Snorkel off your own beach where turtles swim. Plenty of eating options mixture of families honeymooners and older couple. Shops at resorts sell all u need but a short drive north takes u to grocery shop.

Golden sand, calm waters

By Sam M |

This is a physically beautiful beach, naturally sheltered from the rough North Shore waves by a sea wall formed by lava eons ago. Swimmimg is easy, there is some decent snorkeling, and the sandy entry to the water is heavenly.

There are numerous chaise lounges and umbrellas for early arrivers, but plenty of room to spread out on a towel or bring your own beach chair.

The activities shack offers hotel guests towels and snorkeling gear at no cost. There is a restaurant on the beach that offers food and libation. There is also a fresh water shower.

In short, amenities and convenience, added to natural beauty and swimmable water. What more could anyone ask for?

Turtle bay beacy

By snooker147loopy |

We recently visited turtle bay beach
What a place this is
Miles of golden sand and a little bit of gravel at the waters edge
We paddled in the warm water and strolled along the waters edge
You had to wear shoes as the sand was very hot to walk on bare footed
Beware if you order food as there was a lot of wasps which seem to congregate around anyone who had food
There is a recovery tank in the island for injured turtles but this was empty when we were there
Here I am in the middle of the Ocean and I could still get 4G phone signal

Nice Beach!

By Jodi C |

Clean and nice. There’s a little restaurant and bar close to the sand/chairs. Good food and drink selection.

Here’s a good tip...Use the bathrooms inside the hotel. The ones outside are dirty, unkept and smelly.

You can rent snorkel equipment boards and toys beachside.

Nice Beach

By Gmandebz |

Very nice beach and very nice beach attendants. The beach is protected by a natural reef with a nice swimming and snorkling area.

Hidden Beauty

By Reservoirboy |

Because it's off the road and part of the resort this beach is often overlooked. However, it is a real gem in an otherwise rough north shore. Good snorkelling right off the beach and a picturesque setting to spend some time.

Beautiful, smaller, quite, calm beach

By Jennifer E |

This beach was very beautiful with calm water perfect to take smaller children to safely swim and play. Easy to find using the Waze app. Plenty of parking. Not a very good place for snorkeling, but great for soaking up some sun and relaxing.

Relaxing experience

By kaliforniakali |

Turtle Bay is a great resort set on 800 acres. The hotel rooms are good size, a nice variety of restaurants are available, and you really never need to leave the property. There are several beaches, pool, hot tub. You can surf, hike the various trails, go horseback riding. Or you can do nothing at all. The staff is very helpful, and there is even an area where the staff will book tours and activities (no pressure, they don't get any commission or anything). All in all, a lovely 6 days.

A little rocky. It’s ok.

By Robert P N |

Turtle Bay beach is ok. There are so many other better beaches. That it is sad to spend your day there. Unless you are eating at Roy’s on the Beach.

Amazing!

By Jehanne Z |

We arrived at the beach a little before 10 am. There were still parking spots (across the Kamehameha Hwy - careful!) and the beach wasn't too crowded. It's not a particularly deep beach, in terms of how much sand there is to park yourself. And part of the beach is cordoned off to protect the coral where the turtles come to eat and sun themselves. When we arrived, there were a group of people staring at the rocks by the barricaded part of the beach.

You could see big dark blobs, which other tourists who were making their THIRD visit to the beach told us: those are green sea turtles. We were somewhat unimpressed at that point.

Within an hour, giant sea turtles the size of truck tires were swimming by us in the bay, looking for places to sun and eat. My kids - not particularly strong snorkelers - would submerge themselves underwater to get a face to face look at a turtle. Just amazing. Totally worth the trip.

Quiet, protected, beautiful

By momelquist |

The sand is a little rough but it is a protected bay with snorkeling and other activities-kid friently.

Excellent beach

By anne luyet |

Perfect on the North Shore! Calm waters , good for children. Restaurant on the beach, although expensive.

Kuilima Cove

By micah682014 |

Small sheltered cove just to the east of the resort , this is a public beach and there is marked parking available for public beach users at the resort. We brought our own umbrella shade and it's a calm spot to swim . We saw a sleeping seal

Hawai’i Vacay🏝🏝

By Lynetric R |

This was an absolutely gorgeous beach! The main reason we chose this beach to visit it was due to the fact of the sea turtles being spot it quite frequently. There is often seals as well however pictures that have shown many turtles on the beaches. I was very disappointed to find absolutely no turtles and no seals. However it still was a very beautiful beach lovely saying and everything was clean there was vendors nearby to get food if you like it was a great visit. The one problem I didn’t notice was parking even though this is a public beach it was really unclear where you could park at and there was really no one to ask. We were finally able to find a spot that was not designated for the condominiums to ensure when we came back our car was not towed. I think it would be nice if they had more signs saying exactly were parking was available. Otherwise it was a great visit!

World class beach for sun bathers and nature lovers

By dcstep |

We stayed within a few feet of this beach. It's protected from heavy surf, but you can walk 50-yards to get to unprotected beach, with volcanic tidal pools.

Shorebirds and crabs inhabit the tidal pools and a monk seal often sleeps on the beach. Turtles, as the name implies are here also.

Beautiful Sandy beach !!

By DannyWasserman |

We strolled down the beaches of Turtle Bay and enjoyed the beautiful sounds of the crashing waves and laid down for a few hours and got some rays. Beautiful and stunning !!

Nice spot to stop and check out

By SusanInOK |

Turtle Bay Resort is very nice. That being said, this being on the property means it nice as well. The water is quite calm there. The sand is wonderful. There are some restaurants at the resort, but be prepared to spend some money. There are more affordable options up the road.

Great beach for my boys

By Ginger G |

My boys and I took about an hour or so to swim around in the water here. The view and beach were very nice. A little crowded the day we went, but not terribly so. The waves were small and it was a relaxing time in the water. I did not find it to be a good place to snorkel. Not much to see under the water.

Peefect

By Max S |

Clean. Beautiful. Plenty of shade. Bars and change rooms nearby. Even had seals sleeping on the beach. Perfection

Lovely spot

By tiffypics |

Limited parking. Most of the places to park are across the 2 lane highway, but there is so much activity that crossing is not an issue.

There were no turtles when we were there, but we still stayed a while to watch the surfers.

Best Snorkel Tour I've Done

By Rik T |

These guys were so good.

The crew was obviously experienced, and always on the lookout to make sure everybody was safe and having a good time.

We saw turtles. At least three, and many saw more. There was even a mom turtle and her turtle child. There were also a TON of colourful fish!

We boated out to the spot with the turtles we're and the crew paddled around on surfboards as lifeguards. The equipment was good, the ocean was calm. It was an excellent experience!

There were snacks, soda and juice, and ice water. There is a bathroom on board too. You can sit up on the top of the boat, inside in the shade, or on the bow.

The life jackets were far better than any I've had on these tours before; they could be inflated a little, a lot, or anywhere in between. It really made it a better experience because we didn't have to expend any energy to stay afloat and could just enjoy staring at the turtles.

The crew was very engaged. They did not seem like they were just going through the motions. I wish I'd had more cash to tip them more.

Fun, but crowded and few fish

By Genna B |

On a recent trip to Oahu we stopped at Turtle Bay Beach next to the resort because we’d heard there was good snorkeling. Compared to other beaches Turtle Bay has very coarse sand but the cove itself is pretty calm except for where waves break on the ocean side. This beach has bathrooms and a beachfront restaurant. There were a lot of families. For snorkeling though I’d give it a D. I saw a few fish but based on their location it seemed like the majority probably kept to the rocky side which was shallow-ish and you could easily be injured by waves pushing you into large rocks or the rock wall. Turtle Bay Beach was nice but likely not one I’ll put on the list for the next trip.

Fun fun

By drcser |

Amazing. Tons of turtles. What a great time. The waves were very low & about a dozen turtles were grazing on the rocks by shore.

Beach next to Turtle Bay Resort. Rocky, saw no turtles

By Sightseer779040 |

We found this during my research of beaches to stop at on a drive around the island. It is located in the turtle bay resort, although the beach is open to the public. You do have to drive all the way through the resort to the back, just follow the signs for beach access. Then you will end up at the parking lot. It is a very large parking lot, but it was basically full when we arrived so we had to loop for a tiny bit for someone to leave to get a spot, but we arrived mid afternoon. There are restrooms and outdoor showers accessible by the beach. In the cove, there are views of the resort and of the rocks nearby. There is the bay by the resort, or you can keep walking past to a beach around the corner. There were plenty of people here enjoying their beach day. The sand is that coarse shell sand, so it isn’t soft. We thought there would be turtles but we didn’t see any. We walked around a little, and then we were off to our next stop. For us, there isn’t really a reason why you would stop here over other beaches.

Beautiful beach, also used by Hollywood

By ArieArjan |

This beach is located close to the Turtle Bay resort where we stayed. During our visit in the afternoon no turtles (or people) but we did see a red cardinal bird. The beach is small but beautiful, as is the nearby forest.

Scenes from famous movies like ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger tides’ and ‘The Hunger Games: Catching fire’ and the television show ‘Lost’ were shot here as well.

If you want to see Turtles go Here

By Ron G |

Very rocky area on the north end of the beach , but lots of sand as you head south. there is always at least one turtle sunning on the beach beautiful area.

FABULOUS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!

By saraellison61 |

Beautiful place to visit. Seguay tour and surfing lessons a must. guide post helpful in booking excursions but lacking in explaining the travel details. Oh and although they have a fabulous Roy's restaurant on the beach you cannot take your drink to your lounge chair. The only way to have a cocktail on the beach is to bring your own cooler. Weird!!!! Still it was FABULOUS!!!!!

Clean Friendly Beautiful

By jamikay395 |

They customer service was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the grounds were amazing. We will always stay in Turtle Bay every time we hit the North Shore. Loved it!!!

Nice, tame little beach and tide pool

By Ronwu1 |

Very nice. All the amenities. Have some drinks from Roy's or lunch if you like. You know what you are going to get. A nice resort beach. The snorkeling is good for beginners. A bit shallow in some places. Fish are around for sure, but the water is a bit cloudy. I'm not sure I would come just for the beach. We went for lunch at Roy's and hung out at the beach. Any chairs, and the like are for rent (it is a hotel). Parking is close and easy.

Fun Day for Snorkeling on the North Shore

By achan60 |

If you can’t get into Hanauma Bay or it’s too far for you to get to, Turtle Bay Beach lies just behind Turtle Bay Resort & Villas on the North Shore, and it is a public access beach except for the roped off areas nearest the hotel. There is free parking too, but unless you come early, it can look like a Costco parking lot at Christmas. That said, it is a beautiful clear lagoon/bay protected by a nearby reef, and there is lots of colorful sea life to see if you want to snorkel, including sea turtles ( but I didn’t see any). There’s a slight westward current in the bay, easily manageable by snorkelers, but keep an eye on the toddlers & bring lots of sunscreen! Aloha!

So beautiful and love that its a public beach

By LittleNoshy |

great spot! perfectly protected cove for the kids to safely swim in. Local and resort folks enjoy the same beach. Love it. We rented some beach chairs and umbrella for the day and enjoyed ourselves. Cocktails at Roys and a bit of lunch and then back to relaxing.

Excellent for snorkeling

By Angeliki P |

Although many people think that Turtle Bay Beach is private only for the Turtle Bay resort visitors, this is not true. The beach is public and also you can park your car on some labeled spots on the resort’s parking.

Our driver from our private tour brought us here because we requested to swim and snorkel during our North shore tour. This is the perfect place for beginners in snorkeling like us!!! We enjoyed it SO MUCH!!! The beach is actually a small bay but not as crowded as we were used to in Waikiki. We were in the water for almost 2 hours and we didn’t realize it!!! So many beautiful fishes… so many colors… so calm and peaceful! The beach is protected by huge rocks so the waves do not affect the calmness of the bay.

So, although it is far from Honolulu, if you are a beginner in snorkeling and you want to see what else this island hides, please, go to the North Shore and to Turtle Bay beach!!!

Tip: If you want to drink or eat something there is a bar right next to the beach, but we drove back for 5 minutes and had a delicious lunch with shrimps on a food truck! 8-10 large shrimps, rice, the sauce you want and pineapple as dessert not above of $15!

A beach worth visiting.

By bethsP6373CV |

When visiting Oahu... make sure you rent a car and go and visit this beach area. It will be crowded.. but worth it. Bring an umbrella because there is hardly any shade. A lot of snorkeling to be done because of all the beautiful fish. And yes turtles come and go and people get so excited. Parking can be difficult and watch carefully when you cross the highway. 50 minutes from Honolulu.

Beautiful as large resorts go

By BirdOfFlight |

This resort has beautiful grounds, spectacular pool/ocean areas, and wonderful walks on the property. This is not an elegant boutique hotel but a large resort. The resort is particularly good for families.

I give it 5 stars but the negatives are that every activity option and food item is very expensive. That said, the food and drinks are all tasty and high quality.

Nice stop while exploring the North Shore

By Andreas S |

We visited the beach while exploring the North Shore. Nice beach with impressive view. The beach is clean and quiet. Good experience.

Turtles, turtle and turtles!

By Angie E |

During our vacation in Hawaii we visited this beach quite a few times. EVERY TIME we were there the turtles were up on the beach sunbathing! There is usually a volunteer there to answer any questions you may have. You can not pet or take pictures with the turtle. A beautiful sight to see!

Nice snorkeling and beach

By Abraham M |

We were staying in a VRBO 10 min walk from this beach so decided to check it out one afternoon. The resort is right on the sand so you can get drinks or snacks if you want. Remember, the resort won't let you bring their drinks to the sand but you can bring your own from home and drink wherever. The beach is spacious, we visited at peak holiday season and still plenty of room.

Definitely being your snorkel gear. The cove is well protected even in rough seas making this a great place to snorkel around winter time. We saw turtles, eels, and loads of fish. Visibility was a bit churned up that day but still good.

Amazing for younger kids.

By BBQ eats Kc |

This beach is amazing for younger kids because it it relatively flate we went during big wave season and there was no waves. Its perfect for snorkeling and there is a good restaurant there.

Perfect area to relax around.

By LeAnne |

We stayed at the resort so we could easily stroll around the beach on our morning walks. It was beautiful and usually quiet in the early mornings so we soaked up as much as we could before leaving in the morning to tour the rest of the North Shore.

Excellent nature spot though a little rocky

By jose antonio b |

The place is amazing when it comes to contemplate the sea: high waves, clean waters and not a building around but the hotel. It is really a nice area to spend the day. The bar at the beach belongs to the hotel but you can have your drinks there if you want to: it is a great place to see the sea. When it comes to walking, the beach is not that confortable, full of small stones and pieces of coral, but nonetheless I would recommend a visit

Wonderful Beach

By Tania C |

Nice beach to stay and relax. There is a bar of the Turtle Bay Resort, you can pass trough and broyght some food to tha cabanas, towels and chairs can be rental as well.

Rude staff

By Kara's Party I |

We were not impressed with the staff. We were paying guests and were treated like we weren't supposed to be there.

Amazing hidden germ

By chinchilla520 |

This place is hidden in a resort of Turtle bay hotel but is accessible to public. If you'd like you could also stay in hotel for a night or two. The wave is bigger down here and there are hard rocks near the coast, thus I wasn't sure if this would be ideal place for surfing. However the beach is beautiful with soft sand, and a wonderful place to explore snorkelling! A must see place while you are in Honolulu (rent a car)

Mahalo Chris Payne!!

By Ian B |

Aloha!! We went to Turtle Bay Resort on the north side of Oahu. It is a spot I would recommend to friends. Chris Payne the hotel valet was the first person to great us, he recommended for us to check out some local spots for food as well as places for sightseeing. The poke spot and the beach told us to check out was the best!! Thanks again to Chris it was an awesome time!!

The best beach on the North Shore!

By SDPeterson |

As seen in many movies they make on that side of the island, the beach is even more beautiful in person! Lot's to do like horseback riding, surfing, frolicking in the water and ending your stay at one of the many outlets the resort has to offer, all with views of the ocean!

It’s a great day when you’re on Turtle Bay

By MJ_ontheBAY |

Regardless of whether you’re staying at Turtle Bay Resort, a beach day at the famous Turtle Bay is a must while on the North Shore.

The beach is on a semi-protected bay with great views of the vast ocean in the background and seems to have a very calm surf (at least in the spring and summer).

Beach access parking is available for those driving in but arrive on the early side if coming on the weekend. A couple bonus features are an awesome Roy Yamaguchi affiliated restaurant right on the beach and a network of hiking trails near the beach to offer a scenic workout before taking a dip.

With shallow lying reef, this is also a surprisingly good place to snorkel and hosts a wide variety of fish and coral. However, there is probably a higher concentration of sea urchins here embedded into the reefs when compared to a lot of other snorkel spots so swim cautiously. To be fair, no one should be touching or stepping on the reefs anyway, so if you keep your distance as you should, you’ll be totally fine.

Lastly, Turtle Bay and the North Shore in general can get very windy at times so bringing an extra dry shirt, light blanket or towel to cover up is a reasonable preparatory move.

Enjoy this beautiful place!

Oh dear Colder and windier

By William Y |

Turtle bay this time of year a bit colder and windier. We are from Seattle so we enjoy it but a bit disappointed not being able to snorkel. We definitely will come back.

Great for Tourists and Adventures alike

By Mark my Words |

The beach here has great access from the resort. There are shower facilities, gear rental and restaurants.

Pros:
-Inexpensive snorkel rental
-Great variety of fish and sea life.
-Excellent venue at the beach

Cons:
Can be crowded
May have to walk far at the car park.

No waves unlike other beaches in North Shore

By AventuraDelMundo |

This is a kids friendly beach because the waves were not big like other beaches in North Shore. There are a lot of kids playing in the water as well as adults. Non-hotel guests can also come in and enjoy it so it gets crowded.

Turtles, coral, and fish!!!

By Hector D |

We saw turtles
We snorkled and say beautiful fish 10 feet off the shore.
Wasnt crowded.
Was an awesome park and day at the beach!

A good little snorkel spot

By Leanne Culina-Penza |

We stopped off at Turtle Bay for a swim and was pleasantly surprised with the snorkeling. Although the visibility was average there was certainly a lot to see. Will certainly be back again to have another swim!

Did not disappoint.

By Solfulwmn |

have been to Oahu at least 7 times, and snorkeling is one of my favorite activities. Turtle Bay Beach did not disappoint. The public parking for beach access was spacious, and the beach was not crowded for a Sunday.
There was so much sealife to be seen compared to other beaches I have visited on the island . I did not want to leave!

Beautiful Quiet Beach / Easy Access

By Jennifer R |

We visited the Turtle Bay Beach one morning and it was really beautiful and quiet. There were some tide pools, and coral. Lovely!

Not a nice beach.

By diehard2024 |

The only positive thing about this beach are the rocky breaks that keeps the water calm if you have small children. It's very rocky, crowded, and in a word boring. People pay a lot of money to stay at this resort, you'd think it would be set on a beautiful sandy beach but that's not the case. The gulf coast has better beaches. Perhaps I was expecting too much but it was very disappointing.

Great Beach to Relax at!

By Kathleen1924 |

This beach is so relaxing!! Fun place to float or swim. The snorkeling is not great but there are plenty of other places to do that in Hawaii.
The umbrellas and lounges are reserved for resort guests but there is a nice bar to grab a drink at while you relax!

Good for walking

By awes0medude |

Nice beaches and surfing very close to shore. Not very many fish for snorkelling but a seal comes up almost everyday for a nap. Nice long beaches to walk, the waves can get big so watch the little ones.

Turtle spotting

By Tracy |

We were lucky enough to see a few turtles doing their thing on the beach. Make sure you keep your distance to avoid a $10,000 fine.
Another beautiful spot.

TURTLES!!!!

By Lexie R |

Loved being able to see the turtles in their natural habitat. There were also volunteers to make sure no one was getting too close and I really appreciated it. Super cool experience and would 10/10 recommend.

Nice protected beach

By mysunshinebeach |

This isn't the best beach on the north shore but it is nice and has clean bathrooms. The area closer to the hotel has some snorkling in protected waters. Great for weaker swimmers.

Great stop

By Davyator |

I stayed at Turtlebay many years, and it is the best resort ever. The views from every balcony are stunning, and the entertainment at night is unparalleled. There are also several venues for good eating within walking distance.

Protected beach great for kids

By kseebold17 |

Love this beach for kids and snorkeling. No big waves but enough smaller ones for the kids to play in. Great snorkeling over the reefs.

Great Hotel Beach

By Mitch2942 |

This beach was on a protected cove, which provides for some snorkeling. Still, in winter, when the surf is higher in Hawaii, it's a bit too rough for novice snorkelers, but if you have some experience, it could provide a nice location even in the Winter.

Quite a special place

By Fetricia |

Turtles are everywhere you look! It's quite amazing. The day we went was grey, windy and rather chilly but it was great to be able to snorkel to see them and also pretty easy to see them on the shore as well. They like to hang out on the beach too ;)

Lovely beach.

By sandyrosso1 |

When the weather is nice, its great snorkeling. When the weather is bad, it has good surfing. The beach was picked up by staff each night and was clean in the morning. The beach was great for walking.

Great Resort!

By freddyCookeville |

Stayed here two nights after 5 nights in Ko Olina. This was my first trip to Oahu so I wanted to experience as much as a week allowed. I upgraded to a Beachfront Cottage when I arrived since I was looking for more space after spending the previous 5 nights in a spacious two bedroom condominium. The cottage was nice and for two nights comfortably accomadated me, my wife and two 16 and 20 year old daughters. Comfortable beds and amenities. The beachfront covered patio and comfy couch were a definated plus and is a great place to drink coffee in the morning! I received some breakfast buffet vouchers in the upgrade which we utilized each morning at one of the hotel restaurants. The buffet was very good! We also ate one night at Rays on the Beach? restaurant just next to hotel. It is pricey, but the experience and food were top grade!I had the nightly special which was a Swordfish Steak and was absolutely delicious. There is a sandy swimming beach there next to this restaurant. We did not get to do as much at Turtle Bay as we wanted due to our short stay there. I did hike the Kawella Bay trail past the horse stables which is a mile out and back. Beautiful. I also participated in the Hans Hedemann Surf School for two hours. That was a lot of fun. The pools are nice and offer breathtaking views of North Shore!

Beautiful Resort

By Manny Romeral |

It's expensive, but the grounds and access to the pristine beaches is well worth the cost. For food, I highly recommend going off the property. The food at the Turtle Bay Resort is good, but totally overpriced.

Southern Boy on North Shore

By Charles Aimar Jr. |

Best Double Cheese burger by the Hotel pool. Best location and self park car. Surfing right in front of hotel , but water calm the week we were in town. North shore rules!

Small but lovely

By hortonms |

This beach is right next to hotel and pretty uncrowded, the beach rents chairs, loungers, snorkeling gear. It is well protected so pretty nice for family as well.

Good snorkel

By Nick M |

Seas were somewhat rough, this was protected enough for a snorkel, as to be expected visibility was low, but still good.

Expected more

By BelaN74 |

I was expecting more from this beach and I guess that's because it's attached to the famous Resort there. It was just an okay beach. I would not return here.

Beautiful Beach

By Dan R |

Easy walk down from Hotel. Towels and chairs are free to use. Plenty of sun and shade if needed. Great cove for swimming and snorkeling. Restaurant is right there for easy access to food and drink.

Great beach and good snorkeling

By shelma |

Really enjoyed our day here. The beach is beautiful and I found the snorkeling to be really good. Better than Hanauma Bay in my opinion. I saw all kinds of different fish. No turtles :( I also recommend the Pineapple Martini from Roy's which is the bar on the beach. Yes they are $14 a piece but they truly pack a punch! I was feeling really good after just 2. Bonus was parking was free here and no admission fee either. If you're on the north shore I highly recommend you check this beach out.

This beach is heaven!

By Deborah G |

Highly recommend a relaxed day on the beach here. Love the sand, love the view, and love the water even more.

Lovely beach with trails

By Vee999 |

It was rainy both days we visited but still beautiful. We liked having the option to hike along the shoreline when it was drizzling.

Fun and Peaceful

By ACinSoCal |

Shallow, clean, and not crowded. We went with the kids, boogie boards, and a cooler. The corner of the beach where all the turtles were is a bit crowded. We watched from a few hundred yards away as the kids looked for turtles. Our daughter did cut her foot on a sharp rock - so I recommend water shoes. Also - don’t forget your snorkels. A great day 🤙🏾

Go

By worldxplorer1492 |

Go if you are there - give it a try....

Be aware of rip tides and other warnings.

Just use common sense - I only hope my sense is the same as yours.

In love with Turtle Bay

By Tania L |

Everything absolutely everything was amazing! Only place to stay on the island. Tons of activities, beautiful grounds, great amenities, friendly staff, very clean facilities, amazing area. Truly a gem! I will be back ❤️

Fun in the Sun

By jiokia |

Great place to relax on the beach, go snorkeling, tanning. The beach is open to the public so you don't need to be a registered guest to use the beach.

Easy Parking Provided

By Victoria B |

All the beaches on the north-side are just breathtaking. Some are more crowded then others, BUT all beat being on Waikiki. Parking is provided and easy in a large parking for guests and that makes it my favorite beach to hang out. Roy's is the restaurant right on the sand to sneak away and have a cocktail. No adult beverages can be taken on the sand though!! Who cares..it is all worth it !!! !! !

Scenic spot

By bucketlisttravellers |

We visited this spot to try our luck with spotting turtles. Alas, it was not to be this time round, however we did have a pleasant time snorkelling and sitting on the beach. Whilst this beach is part of a resort, it is open to the public and there are rest room facilities. We noted later on in our trip along the North Shore this day that there is another 'turtle beach' close to Laniakea Beach. We wondered whether this beach had a greater chance of finding turtles. If we had our time over again we would have checked this more carefully and spent time at this beach as well.

Nice beach

By TAEinOhio |

This beach is convenient to the hotel. Not large but well maintained and spacious enough even with full occupancy at the time of our visit. Go early if you want the shade of the trees. Rock formations are attached that add to the fun.

Perfect snorkeling beach with small children

By Jerrygarciad |

The bay is pretty shallow, the waves are mild and the current is gentle. There are plenty of fish and a decent variety. This is an easy snorkel area for beginners and small children, who can also just waddle in the shallow waters. You can rent a beach cabana from the turtle bay resort, as well as gear. The tide pools next to the bay make for a great beach stroll with the family. We saw a monk seal catching some sun most of the morning on the beach.

I felt like we were on an episode of LOST

By Brian W |

What a cool beach! We were practically by ourselves and had a great walk along the beach and in the trees to the pillbox. The trails led us to a banyan tree that was back drop in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and others.

Amazing

By Raena |

You won’t want to miss out staying here, so much to offer, recommend staying at least for 10 days!
Activities and guidepost were so helpful and a great way to tour and experience Hawai’i.

A gift from mother nature

By AnneFrenchie |

Beautiful spot to admire mother nature & her turtles... we had a swim in the warm clean and clear water and had a chance to see the turtles landing on the beach to sunbath.
One NEEDS to stay 3metres away from those marine creatures to let them enjoy their beach.

Great beach for relaxing!

By Kristie A |

This beach is beside Turtle Bay Resort. You can rent snorkel gear, but we found the water to be stirred up alot and couldn't see much. The beach is very calm with the little inlet there, you can rent daybeds to lounge on. We loved relaxing here in the sea breeze and sun!

The big ones

By Anthony J |

We were there on a Tour, everyone in the group went one way and the wife an I went another. We seen a number of trutles in water, some of their heads as big as a watermellon.

Stunning

By bbuccella80 |

Such a beautiful safe beach for young kids and plenty to do for older kids. Very clean, relaxing and always have a great experience here.

Good for turtle, bad for snorkel

By Gary R |

We went out to go snorkel but didn't see much of anything. Did see two turtles. Lots of people watching

BEST resort in Hawaii

By Lori H |

45 minutes from the busy city of Honolulu, you will discover this awesome resort. We have been back twice and will be there again in 3 years!

Lovely beach

By C1705HJkarend |

If you are staying in the complex, this is the beach to go to - easy to walk to and very safe (not crazy waves). Always enjoyable. - very scenic too.

Not all it's cracked up to be

By Amber |

Turtle Bay has beautiful beaches and I did enjoy all of their hiking trails. Make sure to check out the Banyan Tree and maybe take some snorkel gear to Kawela Bay. You can see sea turtles here and it won't be as crowded. I know they have construction planned for rooms and I can only hope that includes beds and pillows. I slept terribly here despite the view. Also, Lei Lei's has the best food and that's about it. Was not impressed with anything else. They get away with serving mediocre food because they know people don't want to deal with trying to get a cab or anything to get food off the resort grounds.

Love Our Time

By Travel Warrior |

We loved spending time at the Turtle Bay Beach, Washrooms acessible, Restaurant with good food and icy cold drinks as well as a take away window. What I didn't like was the lounge chairs were for guests of the hotel only and if you wanted one a charge of $25 USD was asked for. The water and the beach were clean and beautiful.

snorkeling

By Amy N |

clean beach, a little crowded, snorkeling right there, learn to surf, snack bar, chairs to rent, umbrellas, exploring on the lava rocks.

Nice beach

By Soraya N |

You have to go through a resort to get to the beach. It's nice, but the people who goes there isn't that friendly to visitors.

No turtles

By Caitlin A |

We came here thinking it was called TURTLE bay beach, that we would see some turtles. Nope, not a single one. The resort beach is open to the public but we didn't see any turtles. We did enjoy the sunset and that's about it. I found out AFTER the fact that if you want to see turtles, go to Laniakea Beach.

Beautiful beach

By aliciasX5978ES |

Although it was overcast the whole time we were here, the beach is just beautiful! We plan on coming back next year.

All Day Relaxation

By Dan B |

Great, convenient spot for ha going out on a non-crowded beach. No bar service...and no restrictions on your own cooler. There are a few umbrellas for those who get there early. $25 for those who wish for a covered double chair. Otherwise, loungers and plenty of sand are in good supply.

Crowded but sheltered

By Gourmang |

When the wind is up, head to this calm bay. Snorkeling offers a variety of fish but not always crystal clear visibility.

Wow saw turtles swimming right in front of us

By Denise L |

How amazing to see these creatures swimming in the surf right in front of you!
There’s volunteers to make sure you don’t touch them but you can snorkel with them as long as you stay a metre away
Great for children to SE them in nature
Enjoy the experience

Snorkeling

By David C |

This is a great beginning place to snorkel. Go early. Like 7 am. Plenty of parking. Walk like your going to Kahuku point but then turn left and walk until you get to the cove. Calm water and relatively shallow. Great coral and so many reef fish. Perfect place to teach your kiddos to snorkel, or learn yourself! It was awesome!

Love this place the water is great and warm

By miriam19572015 |

turtle beach one side of the resort you can surf and on the other side and nice and quiet, with great grass around to be able to sit and relax, highly recommended

Not up to par in some respects

By AmberK |

This is a public beach that the hotel has a permit for chairs. That means, anyone can pay for chairs, it's first come first serve, no beach bathroom, and no service on the beach. (So no lovely pina coladas as you enjoy the breeze and take a dip.) Definitely a let down after staying someone like the Orchid (in Kona). You must watch the currents which can be pretty strong. Rocky on the left side.

Magical experience

By Shaun T |

Had a great afternoon on the beach with the family and snorkeling with them and playing on the beach. Great spot

Amazing Tide Pools

By Alexandra C |

Not a beach for swimming, but the tide pools were amazing! Great place for a nature adventure. Walked on the lava rocks and saw all sorts of crabs and tropical fish. It was like a mini snorkeling experience without getting wet

no need to go to another beach

By shannyariana |

Turtles, wow, Amazing

By The_Travel_Family |

This review is for turtle bay on the other side of the turtle beach hotel. Turtle bay is where the turtles come to feed, I was lucky to see and swim with a bale of 6 turtles over the course of two hours, an amazing experience. Walk round to the far end of turtle bay away from the hotel, this is the best spot. Early in the morning is the best time. Do not touch them as I saw someone else doing for a photo.

Okay

By Shannyn T |

I wasn't sure what to expect but, the beach was clean. I just prefer more waves. My 12 year old daughter loved it. She went snorkeling and floated on a blow up toy. Perfect for smaller children. In need of more shade options.

Saw sea turtles up close

By MontTexas |

We made a short stop at the public beach area to check out turtles. We saw three that were either on the beach or in very shallow water. Here were some conservationists nearby reminding tourists not to touch the turtles or get too close so their nesting places wouldn’t be disturbed. However, still a thrill to see them roaming free.

Small but ...

By Clyde C |

Beach is small, but really nice. Great vistas to photograph. All the beaches on the north shore and eastward are pretty nice. They get a lot less crowded farther eastward from this beach. Worth a stop and visit. Roy's restaurant is right there by the beach.

Good Alternative Beach

By Johnusds |

During the winter season many of the North Shore beaches were RED due to rip currents and waves. This beach, however, is in a sheltered cove and was good for swimming and snorkeling. There is a chair rental, but during peak season and times they go fast. parking is also at a premium, so get there a little early since you share a lot with the resort guests. The beach itself is rather small, so during peak/busy times it can get crowded, but that's because I was here over the Christmas holiday. Usually, I've been told its not that busy. Great for young kids. There are SMALL restrooms on site, and a small snack shop along with a rather pricey restaurant. But it was a very clean, pleasant beach.

Snorkelers should skip this

By Sarah B |

I’m not sure people who have reviewed this positively for snorkeling have ever snorkeled. There is nothing to see, if you’re not staying at the hotel it is an absolute pain to get to as well. The beach is full of children from the resort playing and enjoying themselves, which makes it great for families, but honestly there are more accessible, far better beaches for that which are not difficult to access. Also, no turtles. We saw tons of turtles all over the island, there weren’t really even fish here, low visibility, just a waste of time. The reviews make no sense!

Worthwhile stop on the North Shore

By Christina R |

Turtle Bay is known for its large number of sea turtles, although we have also seen them on other beaches on Oahu. We stopped there on our trip along the North Shore and were able to park for free in the large parking lot at the Turtle Bay Resort hotel. This also makes it easy to get through the hotel to the beach. A small, quiet bay with showers and toilets as well as a restaurant are located directly at the hotel. There are also snorkeling opportunities and the access is public. Turtle Beach is a few minutes walk away, but it is very rocky in some places. Luckily we were able to see some turtles there because there were very few people on the beach at this time.

Nice beach, no turtles that day

By wdl |

I would have rated higher if we haven't seen turtles or if the snorkeling conditions were better (not good visibility that day and the weather was overcast).
But other than that, there is a lot to like about this beach
- secluded water, turquoise water when the weather is right
- easier parking on the public parking area of the resort (parking on the North shore is challenging, to say the least)
- restrooms and showers near the beach
- there is the bar/restaurant of the resort you can use

It is also said that you can turtles at this beach and snorkeling was great. Neither happened on the day we went, and we wouldn't see turtles until the last day of our vacation. It does not detract from the other positive aspects of the beach, I think it is one of the better beaches to go on the North Shore

Not worth the drive

By FunOnly |

Turtle beach is typical of the windward facing beaches of Hawaii. There is dangerous pounding surf with dangerous undertows. The only safe beaches are those that have a coral or Lava barrier forming a protected cove or breakwater.

There is a small protected beach that has a large hotel and condominium complex on it so it is very crowded. Most of the beach is rocky with lava flows extending into the water. There are patches of sand but they are dangerous for swimming.

We did not see any turtles but it was not the season for them to lay eggs and we were not there at sunset.

Bottom line, this beach is a LONG way from the south shore tourist areas and is not worth the drive.

Another beautiful beach

By Beechman1 |

There are of course a number of beautiful beaches on the North Shore, and this is one of those that you need to visit. Soft sand, easy to access the water and lots of shade for those that need it

Parking wasn’t difficult, but the water wasn’t very clear. No fish nor turtles were seen.

By G.Lee |

Don’t get me wrong. This place was definitely beautiful, but unlike popular reviews, the water wasn’t very clear, and we saw no fish or turtles on the day we went during the first week of August. However, finding public beach parking was not difficult at all.

Tropical Turtle Bay

By tkriese |

There is nothing like sitting on the beach in Hawaii and listening to the waves crash against the shore. This beach is absolutely magnificent. It usually gets fairly packed so I recommend going earlier during the day.

safe and fun for families

By Rae W |

We had a great time snorkeling around the cove/bay. There were lots of different kinds of fish to see. The water was not too strong so you don't have to be a great swimmer to enjoy. There was even a monk seal sleeping on the beach!

Beach hopping

By kelzoom |

The bf and I went beach hopping and this was a nice place to stop by. Came here to see turtles, but we immediately saw a sleeping, beached seal instead. He was roped off by employees so he wouldn't be disturbed, but we were really close!

We were able to walk out (in sandals) on a jagged rock edge for some nice photo ops. Be careful as there are sharp rocks you can slip on.

Beach was nice, several ppl in the water snorkeling. Free parking. Looked liked the beach chairs were free to use too, but i could be wrong.

Perfect for a short visit, but i prefer the other beaches along the north shore which is why I can only give this spot four stars.

A solid spot

By Aaron W |

Hotel is great, food is wonderful, little bay is great for snorkeling, but can get very busy on great day. GREAT views

Snorkel the Bay

By David A |

This is one of the beaches for Turtle Bay Resort and is a wonderful place to snorkel. Lots of coral, reef fish and other sea creatures to look at.

Easy snorkeling beach

By Jan D |

This is a great beach, because you can park at the Resort for free, it has bathrooms and outside showers and snorkeling is good. You can watch surfers on the other side of the rocks that protect the beach área. Roys is right there for drinks - though a bit expensive. It isn't a big beach área, but you can see all kinds of fish and coral in the water.

Kids...

By Paul M |

The average rating I give this is coming from a young couple without kids on honeymoon. Great sand, amenities including snorkel rentals for $14 and calm water with minimal wind all get this 5 stars. Now... the tons of families staying at turtle bay resort with kids running around squealing bring this beach down a notch on my relaxation meter... if you have kids it may be great. If you're looking to lay out in the sun for a tan with peace and quite look elsewhere.

Really good snorkeling - was impressed!

By Greg D |

Having snorkeled a lot of places I didn't think that a walk on beach would have the good snorkeling we found at Turtle Bay! Water was warm enough to go without wet suit - refreshing. Lots to see and a turtle was resting on the beach - had it cordoned off as should be.

Great beach for snorkeling

By katrina123k |

We were staying about 5min away. It was a great spot to get in some beach time. Not overly busy and you could still score beach chairs from time to time. We travelled with our 10 month old and he enjoyed swimming there. We went snorkeling a few times and saw lots of fish

One of our favorite beaches in Honolulu

By JMH1986 |

We have been coming to Turtle Bay Beach for many years. We are former Hawaii residents and we always come back to visit this beautiful beach. We love that the waters are calm (although the current can get strong) and it is a wonderful beach to spend the day with family and friends. We like that the beach is less crowded than other beaches in Honolulu. It is a good mix of locals/tourists. We enjoy having lunch or dinner at Roy's Beach House which is right on the beach. Parking is free. Awesome beach!

Wonderful snorkeling right at Turtle Bay resort

By privateerwa |

Borrowed some gear from the hut at the beach and jumped right in the water. Plenty of fish to see in a protected cove.

Awesome beach!

By Aussie Family Adventures |

This beach is incredible! It also has rather dangerous conditions and the ocean can be very rough. It is wonderful watching surfers ride waves and there are spot which are quite calm. We will definitely be back here!

Resort Cove; calm area

By Jeff P |

Really a challenge to find the parking spaces for the beach, but they are in the back parking lot. Cove is VERY calm and good for very young kids. My family did snorkel and found a few fish. Hot dogs are $17!

Nice beach, but no better than anywhere else on the North Shore

By Stacy_247 |

The beach at turtle bay is nice, and calm. We did see a seal sleeping on the beach too, which was so cool! Overall though, this beach is not any better than anywhere else on the North Shore.

Over rated

By HKinsey |

Getting there was nightmare, huge traffic jams, hard to find parking, and then the beach was crowded. Not worth the effort , and no turtles!

Fun Day Snorkelling with the family

We loved this beach. There was ample parking to the right at the self-parking area of the resort. Don’t let the resort scare you off as they have allocated a lot of parking for the public beach. The snorkelling here is accessible and not scary. We saw so many fish. You can rent gear on the beach and then have an amazing cocktail at Roy’s. I highly recommend his pineapple coconut martini. It is delicious. Family friendly and the natural beauty of the area will bring you back for more.

Turtles

By Brett3011 |

Lucky enough to see a turtle on the beach
Surprised how small the beach was but lucky to see a green turtle making his way down to the water

Sunsets to create a memory of al lifetime.

By Coddy A |

Imagine your self suround by the warm salty breeze with father sun shinning on your face giving you a shower the most precious Vitamin C, contempleating how you go so lucky to have the opportunity to be in one of the most beautiful beaches around the world?

Well here is when all your dreams come reality

Turtle Bay is prart of the North Short in Oahu.

The laid-back North Shore is a stretch of coast known for big waves and professional surfing contests at Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach. In summer (May–Oct), Pūpūkea Marine Life Conservation District has calm water for snorkeling among colorful coral and fish. Indie galleries, surf shops and Hawaiian plate-lunch spots fill Haleiwa town, while the Dole Plantation runs tours of its pineapple fields and tropical gardens and near by all the food truck from all the cousins around the globe.

But one of the most important thing and why people go there in the afternoons is " The sunset"
When u have a full day of activities come to this place for the sunset is just what everyone need to create no just an incredible experience but a memory that will last a life time.

Great spot for the kids

By Stephen C |

Basically a protected bay with a nice beach and services (snorkels, etc) available including a bar and restaurant (Roy's).

We were fortunate to meet a Mr. Turtle on the beach.
Sorry for the intrusion!
We just want to snap some photos of You!

The spa at Turtle Bay Resort, Damian and Sarah are the dream team

By julmac |

The spa area is beautiful but the people who cared for us were epic. I had a deep tissue massage with Damian and it has proved the best massage I have ever had. It's five days later after the long flights and my body is still responding/opening from the work. I finally got back to my yoga practice yesterday and was amazed at how flexible my body was. Deep tissue work can make you grimace and tense up but that wasn't the case this time. I felt I was in super capable hands and could just trust and stay relaxed. Truly the best.

I moved on to Sarah who had just introduced my 13 year old daughter to her first facial. She sweetly talked to her along the way educating her about caring for her skin. I found Sarah to be so calming and thoughtful. I felt absolutely pampered and at almost 46 felt like I was glowing like a youngster when we were done.

The afternoon was certainly a highlight and if you see these two.......I'm jealous!

Awesome for Snorkeling

By Debbie M |

Got up at 7am (Staying in Laie) reached Turtle beach at 730am..Bus 55. Heaps of parking space if you have a car. Excellent place to snorkel its in a safe cove and there are plenty of fish, Beach is just in front of the resort I imagine it would get pretty busy. There is a resident seal which was an added bonus. I went on Wednesday and after 2 hours there were a few people starting to set up, but I left at 9:30am. I was vacationing by myself and it was calm clear water. See posted pictures, sadly I didn't have my camera on the correct settings. I didn't get time to go back but I would but this on your to do list. But go early.

Small but nice

By Kelli S |

Great beach at the resort but it was very small and a bit crowded at times. If you have a car I highly recommend that check out other local beaches too!

Very Calm Water

By COparrotheads |

Great little protected beach. Great for getting wet, sitting and hanging out at the beach. You can hear and see the big waves as they dissipate on the reef before the small bay and beach area. Good for family's and kids. Services through the resort are available, chairs, drinks and food. All set for a day at the beach.

Nice relaxing spot

By matt559 |

Great little beach with clear water and lots of fish. Easy spot to walk in and snorkel. Free plentiful parking was delightful after all the chaos of north shore beaches.

Awesome beach to soak up the sun and watch the surfers

By mimi3783 |

If you want to relax, this is the place. Beautiful and low key. Don't get me wrong, there will be people, but it much less touristy than the south side of the island. You feel more in touch with the true nature and beauty of the island and how most islanders live.

Nice resort, but mediocre beach

By kelleyb0 |

The beach was heavily populated. One very cool thing we discovered was that a sea lion likes to nap on the beach and Turtle Bay gave him his own protected space, which allowed people to get close enough to photograph him without being too bothersome to the sea lion. The beach is listed as a top snorkeling spot on North Shore, but while we visited 3 times on our trip, the water was never clear enough to see anything, probably due to the high number of visitors stirring up the water.

No Turtles but nice

By Dan C |

We went here during our family vacation. It was a long drive for us because we were staying on the other side of the island but we enjoyed it. No turtles and not too many people. Lot's amenities around this beach and the water is nice but beware of the currents to the right side of the little bay. We had a good time.

Great lazy beach spot

By jjcoffman |

If you show up early, you can set up camp under the trees and enjoy the shady beach all day. The snorkeling is ok and the water beautiful. No real waves here.

Beautiful Views

By Chris M |

We didn't get to see any turtles but we stopped here to check it and it was beautiful and the weather was great. Was a little packed .

what is so special about it?

By HONkiev |

This is another beach, and not the best one we've seen on Oahu. We couldn't understand why this beach has a 4.5 point rating...

No turtles on turtle beach!

By ZaZaYue |

We went early morning when there was hardly anyone at the beach, around 7.30ish am.

This was my least favourite beach in North Shore. The water was not very clear, there were hardly any fish in the water, no turtles and lots of sea urchins which can be dangerous if you step on then without swim shoes.

All in all we stayed about an hour and a half, we did see a monk seal on the beach though near the left side where the hotel is located.

If you have limited time, I would recommend my favourite beach to snorkel at Lanakai and Three Tables.

I would stay here next time!

By MammaLax |

We just visited the Turtle Bay Beach, didn't stay at the resort, but I certainly would! It's beautiful! And the bay is great for snorkeling!

beautiful nrth hore beach

By cat330 |

the beach here has a lot of beautiful sand. if you are lucky perhaps you will see a turtle hence the name turtle bay beach

Snorkeling Fun

By Hoai My W |

Went snorkeling here. Saw turtles. Not crowded. Beautiful scenery. Rentals available for gear. Bathrooms with changing area. Showers outside.

Average

By Raeanna L |

The beach was well taken care of and clean, however it was very packed and it was not very big. The water was clear but hard to get to because of the rocks and how many people were there

nice place

By therisious |

As a first time visitor, I was expecting to find some turtles. Unluckily, I didn't see much.
I have to return here to find one :)
The place is very cool complete with hotel with a view.

Great views

By Lori B |

The shore line was beautiful. We did some snorkeling but the tide was a bit rough and there are no life guards on duty. Great place to relax on the beach and search for shells on shore.

Beautiful bay

By look4fun |

This beach is to the right of the Turtle Bay Resort and open to the public. However, the resort puts their chairs all over the entire beach, kind of hogging it for their guests. No worries! Grab a chair and relax! Worked for us for about two hours until we got kicked off! My thoughts are if they are going to cover the public beach with chairs, they should expect the public to enjoy them too! Beautiful spot with pretty good snorkelling.

Roys at Turtle Bay

By georgeV2877LW |

The food was delicious and the view was spectacular. Push for a good table, they were placing us at the worst location and NO one was in the restaurant nor did it fill up. Once we pushed, we received a good table. Wait staff was good.

View turtles

By Steve w |

If you want to view turtles walk to or short drive to kawela bay beach from turtle bay resort. Go early just after sunrise and you may find one on the beach but don’t get close.

Nice spot

By JediFox |

Visited yesterday w friends. The beach is nice but the resort is tired. They don't allow alcohol in the beach so that limits the enjoyment.
Beach is Rocky in spots but we'll protected by reefs so low waves and no danger of tow.

beautiful beach, easy snorkeling

By bethsmithgreensboro |

small beautiful beach with easy snorkeling. calm water and good for beginners. We stayed at the resort. There are also beautiful beaches on the resort that we saw on the snorkel tour.

Simply Beautiful

By Kona-KonaKen |

Majestic and powerful sea views. Nice sand beach. Okay for swimming and bobbing. Very windy. Great experience.

Beautiful calm beach

By Kathryn H |

We enjoyed an afternoon here, sunbathing, snorkeling, and exploring. We initially went on the west side which was not where we wanted to be as the waters were more rough and rocky beach.

The snorkeling was alright. Maybe on a calmer day would have been better.

Great looking resort, but lots and lots of people

By interceptpubs |

We actually stopped here to see the location of the Opana Point radar site that picked up the approaching Japanese aircraft heading to attack Pearl Harbor in 1941 (the site itself is still controlled by the Defense Department but can be seen from the public beach by the hotel here where there are some markers describing its historic significance).

While we were here, we walked along the very pretty beach and looked around some of the public spaces of the resort. It certainly is an impressive facility and is situated on a beautiful stretch of beach. The only downside is that the place is huge with a tremendous clientele - the free parking lot covers acres and acres and packed full of cars. We were here on a Saturday afternoon and found a spot in like the last row.

Breathtaking

By Melissa A |

The beach at the resort was a great beach for young kids as there were no waves and the water was shallow. Had lunch here. Food was amazing and the wine was cold. View was stunning. Well worth the drive to get there.

Not that exciting

By celinam774 |

The family and I stopped by here today and there is certainly nothing special about it to bring us back again. There are much nicer beaches in the world.

Nice public beach

By Rob M |

We stopped here and just waded in the water. Lots of rocks, so watch out. There’s also a nice beach bar. We had a couple drinks while we were watching the people and watching the beach. The bar had live Hawaiian music. Good experience.

Nice beach open to the public

By carlisledonna1 |

All Oahu beaches are open to the public. This one is clean and has a long shallow part. There is a bar and a snack shop. Also a grassy spot with shade good for picnics. Follow the walking path next to the gates on the right of the resort.

Beautiful

By 1Happy2bhappy |

Great check in experience, amazing room and view. Super value with extraordinary location. Super surf spot and super relaxing. Couldn't have asked for more!!

Beautiful Beach and not very crowded.

By CalifSue |

We stayed at Turtle Bay Resort and just a minute walk to this beach. Weather during most of the week not the best, but when the sun came out it was really nice. Snorkeling was easy and the water not very deep and I saw many different fish. Saw the Sunrise from the beach one morning. Attendants working in the rental kiosk/towels, were very
nice.

Fun

By Joe C |

Clean beach big waves fun time. I wasn’t a fan of the vendor selling 25 dollar burgers though. They weren’t all that .

Cottage Attendants are Priceless

By lfinco |

Because we have had the best experience staying in the Cottages at Turtle Bay, we wanted to specifically share. Besides the fact that the cottages are the best rooms, what truly makes the experience is the staff who work on this side of the resort. From the cottage hosts (Brian/Greg) who are right there to help make your trip special to the housekeeping staff and grounds workers. These “ohana” really make the experience special. Two special women need to be called out by name: Fely— who always welcomes us with love and Judith, the housekeeping attendant for our cottage. Judith kept our place spotless, fresh, and you can tell it was all done with love. We truly appreciate the work she did each day and how she accommodated our whacky schedule. We will be back mostly because of the people we have met and who have helped make our trips extraordinary

Not bad

By guillermo m |

Spent about an hour there. My kids wanted to stay, but we had other reservations. Nice beach, but not one turtle to be seen.

A secret GEM in North Shore

By Gracie V |

I have been to North Shore several times and I just went to this beach in 2017, WOW!!! I saw my first 60 year old turtles!! More than one on the shore, just make sure you don't get too close to them and respect their habitat. The sunset here was amazing!

Honeymoon

By cyndiherndon |

Friendly, helpful staff. The resort offers amazing walking paths, gorgeous beaches, and many other amenities. I would suggest eating off grounds (there are so many food trucks and such within 10 minutes), but everything else was more than I could even hope to experience.

Definitely Turtles Here

By Bowmanator22 |

I was a little skeptical when I heard that sea turtles frequently visited a beach with so many people... well, I was wrong. There are turtles here, and large ones! They don’t seem to mind people (obviously don’t go touching them though!). Parking here is a complete disaster, so beware if you plan to stop.

Best Beach and Snorkeling

By Jessica H |

This was the best beach we visited while on Oahu! We ended up coming back instead of finding another beach to visit. We didn't get to see any turtles because the tide was too high, but when we were snorkeling we saw some great exotic fish!

Ninja Turtles

By Drewski |

Haven't stayed at the resort yet. We took a walk around the property and cruised the beach. Walked around by the cottages and saw a bunch of turtles swimming . Pretty cool.

Christmas Present!!!

By Jeff J |

Turtle Bay in Oahu was our Christmas gift to ourself. Great service, lots of fun. Incredibly beautiful!!

Beautiful Beach to visit if you are staying on the grounds

By jac797 |

It can get crowded however. I'd go during off hours- morning or later in the afternoon. Be sure to bring a camera, reef safe sunscreen, suit and a great attitude because you'll have a lovely time.

Nicest beach on Oahu beautiful, secluded but rough waves

By marienjnj |

Three miles of beautiful secluded beaches. My son came upon a sleeping seal. You have thhe beach to yourself but be careful the north shore waves are dangerous especially in winter. Privacy and seclusion no lifeguards.

Beautiful

By Joanne |

If you love just floating in the water or snorkeling without the worry of getting dumped. This is the place. The water was glorious - slight waves but no dumpers due to the reef that encloses it. There is a surf beach on the other side of the turtle bay resort if that is your pick. You do need to take some sort of sunshade with you. You can rent some there but otherwise you are totally exposed to the sun. I could have stayed for weeks as the water was just perfect.

DON'T TOUCH THE TURTLES

By Christian Shana M |

Each time we drove by we saw sea turtles; amazing sight! There seems to be the right food for them in this location due to the rock/coral that seemed unique near the shore. I was very disturbed to find people getting too close to the turtles and even touching them. BIG NO, NO! I was very impressed with two young men that stepped in with a rope to keep people at the appropriate distance but disappointed that grown-ups couldn't follow the rules. Thanks to the efforts of these young conservationists, future generations may get to see the turtles!

Still unspoiled clean beaches !🏖

By DAVID S |

A great 👍 place to get away 🏃! At turtle 🐢 bay you can walk the beaches for hours and not find a more secluded stretch of sand any where on the island 🌴 other than Turtle Bays 1000 acres of beauty !

Friendly beach with great sunsets

By Greekipina |

We had stayed at an AirBnb on the property so we arrive each evening around 4pm after a day of site seeing. Public parking available to the right of the lobby check in. There is a rental booth if you'd like to rent boogey boards and a bar for food and drinks. It wasn't over crowded each time we went and the kids my daughters befriended were always very nice. People on the beach were friendly. It was also awesome to sit on watch the sun go down while we were in the water. We didn't get to see any turtles this time around but we still had a great time.

Very nice beach

By 87kandj |

The beach here is beautiful and its great for beginner snorkeling. You won't see as much in the water as other beaches but it's great for all ages. There is a break wall so the beach is nice year round, even duribg gigh surf season. You can visit this beach even if you are not a guest of Turtle Bay.

spent the day it was amazing

By pdog6557 |

Very relaxing bring your own beverages as limited place to buy anything....very relaxing gentle surf....beach access parking is limited but very well marked

Beautiful Spot to Enjoy Some Beach Time!

By StacyInDC2012 |

We were looking for "Turtle Beach" (Laniakea Beach) and ended up at Turtle Bay Resort instead. But, we saw the signs for public access and there was plenty of parking so we decided to enjoy the beach we found!

Fun fact - Hawaii's beaches are all public access, even when they are at a resort!

The area was beautiful to take in and we found a shaded spot along the palm tree line. The water was warm and calm and we saw several people snorkeling. I saw some movement in the water not to far out, and a flipper or head peaking out a few times so I'm guessing turtles were around but none opted to sun themselves on the beach that afternoon!

In driving back towards Honolulu we drove past Laniakea and noticed it packed with people, many in a large circle around the one turtle that appeared to be there so in the end I think our inadvertant choice was the better one!

Great snorkeling! Please be respectful!

By geril717 |

We snorkled here on our recent trip to the North Shore. Like us, many people were visiting to see the sea turtles that frequent this location. Several turtles come ashore to bask on the beach throughout the day; many turtles were in the water as well as we were snorkeling. While we observed at a distance, many visitors were not respecting the space, especially in the water. Volunteers were on the shore, running back and forth when crowds would form, in order to protect the turtles. Snorkeling at this beach is great; we were able to see a variety of fish. Parking can be tight, especially in the early afternoon; visiting early is recommended. There are also no facilities directly at this beach; plan accordingly if you need to change/use bathroom.

Beautiful Quiet beach!

By lindadZ4651WB |

I spent several days reading and sleeping on the beach. At night we left our sliding glass door open so we could listen to the waves. It 's absolutely beautiful!

We saw turtles

By Matt A |

We've come here twice (on two separate trips) and saw turtles each time. Come in the late morning or early afternoon for your best chance.

Christmas Holidays on the North Shore

By Sarah L |

My husband and I stayed in a beach cottage at the Turtle Bay over the holidays and had such an amazing time! The cottage was INCREDIBLE and we loved the concierge service that was provided. Customer service was top notch and we even received cute little surprise Hawaiian gifts each day! We felt as though we were in our own personal home on the beach and the lanai offered the most amazing views! I would go back to Turtle Bay in a heartbeat and would always snag a cottage!

Beautiful Beach.

By Robert M |

This is a beautiful beach. Laid back but all services of more populated beaches. A seal showed up for a nature show while we where there. If you decide to walk the lava flows, use extreme care. Speaking from experience, it is extremely sharp should you fall. Use care and enjoy.

Nice beach

By Paula j |

This was a nice clean beach. There’s beach chairs and umbrellas. Not great snorkelling though. At least on the day we were there.

Great for snorkeling

By kwsmarty |

The waters are a lot colder here than on the windward side, but the rocks and reef keep the currents down. Snorkeling was great - very clear waters and a good amount of fish.

So many fish!

By Madelyn G |

We woke up quite early in the morning to go snorkeling in the water before more people got there, and the fish were AMAZING. So many varieties and so many colors, it felt like swimming through an aquarium! We also saw a sea turtle eating along the bottom, a major highlight of our trip! Turtle Bay is one of the best places we snorkeled at on Oahu!

There is much better.

By DiegoCe75 |

Beach with an “artificial” flavor for use and consumption of the huge resort that overlooks it.... and that the photos nn show! Access is still free as is the huge parking lot nearby. There is much better just a few miles away!

Awesome!

By Nicole H |

Awesome! Worth the trip! Great price. Great fitness facilities. A world a part from Honolulu. Really bad food but other amenities made up for it.

Great public beach access

By Hayley H |

We were amazed at the amenities for this public beach access: towels, bathrooms, and on site restaurant. We thought is was part of the resort, but it is open to the public! The snorkeling is disappointing, but it is a great protected cove for swimming. A gem on the northern shore when the waves are rough!

Drink at the pool bar

By mtripguy |

Had a couple of drinks and appetizers at the pool bar.....wow, what views with the high waves this time of year splashing off the rocks...the beer was cold and the chips and salsa were on point.

Small but inviting

By loveholidays11 |

This is a public beach without life guards. I can be treacherous with the rips when the swell gets up but otherwise very protected. Roys has a take away section but is a little expensive. You could go to the hotel and get some quality lunch food from their shop near the pool if you visit.

No turtles but beautiful beach

By 119Shan |

We omitted to check up on what time of day the turtles would appear and went there at about 1 pm. There were no turtles but what we got was a pleasant afternoon on a nice beach. Stay away from crowded Waikiki and come here for a relaxing time instead. Fine sand, clear water, island breeze and minimal crowd. Utopia!

Turtle Bay is the one of the best Resort ever.

By Louis L |

Sep 19 2016, I'm Staying here. We played golf at Turtle Bay Palmer course with Tee it up Package. In the night, We visiting to Roy`s beach house. We only 3 persons but only $212. Very friendly staffs. Thanks Turtle Bay. Perfect.

Spatacular Wave watching

By 69tiger888 |

The trick to watch the waves here is to walk all the way around the Turtle Bay Hotel to where the Church is located At this point , you can watch waves on both side of the bay as these 25 to 40 ft giants rolled towards the beach , in other words , yiu watched from the side , providing the most spectacular experience. We were there day after the big wind storm , waves were big and spectacular .

Hidden Gem

By KCandJP |

There is a public accessible beach on the beautiful grounds of the Turtle Bay resort with free parking. Bring or rent snorkel equipment right on the beach because there is significant marine life right there off the beach including sea turtles. A seal even came up onto the beach for a long nap while I was there. He was fascinating for everyone to see up close. They also have a bar and good food available on the beach as well as lounge chairs and showers. Seems too good to be true.

Great for turtles - Freaky for snorkeling

By Sara R |

We saw turtles each day we went here.

I didn't love the snorkeling, the coral was too close to the surface. I was terrified that I would damage an already compromised ecosystem.

Watch Out for the Lava Rocks

By Wic808 |

The beach itself at Turtle Bay is very nice white sand beach area. It's always pretty well populated and not far from food, drinks and bathrooms. Actually going in the water can be a little tricky as there are a lot of craggy lava deposits along the bottom to trip on. It is a more protected North Shore beach thou so when the waves are huge else where they usually aren't too bad here which makes it a good beach for those with smaller kiddos.

Excellent snorkeling

By CAtravelerCA |

Excellent snorkeling. We went late afternoon and spotted three turtles. It was windy and rainy but still great time

Great beach

By Lorene R |

We really enjoyed walking on this beach. We didn't see any turtles, but it was a great beach to walk on.

Beautiful

By Runi58 |

We parked in public access at Turtle Bay Resort and followed the path to the beach. We walked along the beach, didn't see any turtles, but we did see a rare Hawaiian Monk Seal. As it was the end of November, it was a bit wavy, not condusive for snorkeling, but it was still beautiful and quiet. The further away from the resort, the quieter the beach. The grounds of the resort are very beautiful.

We loved our Cottages! And "Visit", our housekeeper was wonderful! The staff and Resort was just heaven. You never have to leave. Everything is here at your fingertips! And wonderful restaurants to chose from! Thank you, Ephriam, Eric & all who made our stay so pleasurable! The views and the activities offered, are so great! Definitely will come again! We brought 10 family members, and they will keep these memories forever!

Great beach had a good time snorking there's a nice hike around the bay past the horses at the golf coarse and to the pillar box and secret bay

Great Beach for Kids

By NKB66 |

Lovely swimming beach for kids, nice sand and possible to take long walks. The water is very clear and we often saw turtles!

beautiful & peaceful

By gelilfoot |

The beaches are very excess able. Knowable staff at every venue. Every area was safe and extra events were very fun.

No turtles but a Hawaiian Monk Seal

By Kirzo |

Whilst we didn't see any turtles here there was a lone Hawaiian Monk Seal sunning himself right on the beach. He went out for a fish and then came back to sleep, he did this the entire 3 days we stayed at the resort.

There was some great snorkelling here too so don't forget to bring some gear (we just bought some from Walmart on the drive up because it was cheaper than hiring for a few days).

If you want to see Turtles head south about 20mins and go to Laniakea Beach. But please please please give the turtles some space!

Rocky but nice

By Martin W |

There are many lava rock outcroppings on the beach and there is lava in the water. Best if you wear beach/water footwear to protect the feet. There is a very nice beach that is about a leisurely 15 minute walk to the west!

Clean beach with calm waters

By Darla L |

The beach is clean with lots of room to spread out. Beach chairs, umbrellas, palapas and loungers are available for renting. No lifeguard

Relaxing local

By Yvonne H |

Went to the beach each day and it was very relaxing and enjoyable. There was enough space to sit, or lay, read or just stare out at the water.

Nice beach

By Laura Vardy |

My husband and I visited this beach at Turtle Bay Resort a couple of times and found the beach to be nice and the water relatively calm compared to other north shore beaches this time of year. Anyone can visit the beach, not just the resort guests and it is free. Kids played in the water and I was even able to go snorkeling, although there are better places to snorkel on the island (Shark's Cove and Hanauma Bay). Nice place to relax and swim and great for families. There is a restaurant and restrooms near the beach as well.

Beautiful beach

By Humor_meeee |

Gorgeous beach. We were on the island in November the week around Thanksgiving as part of a huge family group that stayed in two locations. We stayed on North shore on east side, our other family group stayed in condos on Turtle Bay. We visited them there one day. It seemed like during the winter high surf, rainy season times, that the Turtle Bay Beach was a little more protected from the high surf and was less rainy than the North East side of the island we were on. The beach was gorgeous, waves were calm enough for kids to swim around in a bit. Unfortunately the day we went was windy, cold and overcast. The sunsets there are simply unbelievable and can’t be missed. So gorgeous. Worth it to go there just to see the sunsets.

Dramatic rough seas as a hurricane approached

By KLE2013 |

Adjacent to the Turtle Bay Resort, this beautiful, uncrowded beach has public parking and rentals of beach chairs and snorkeling equipment. On the day of our visit with a hurricane approaching, the sea was incredibly rough and only a few dare devil surfers were challenging the waves. So on that day we passed on swimming and simply enjoyed the rugged beauty of the area.

beautiful beach on North Side, but more crowded

By TerryAReviewer |

This beach has plenty of sand, a nice cove to snorkel with ample parking and easy access for the public. This beach is on the right side of the resort as you face the ocean. The beach on the left side has much larger waves, less sand and is used for surfing.

Snorkling is good because the cove doesn't have large waves. However, make sure you come at low tide - it's no good at high tide. We tried both and found high tide (in the evening during our stay) had murky waters and few fish. We did not see sea turtles, but saw at least 10-15 varieties of fish. I have had amazing snorkling, during the same month, in crystal clear waters with 30 or more varieties of fish - so I was not extremely impressed with the snorkling. Also, the floor under the water does have some rocks very close to shore. The kids might try it with their water shoes.

Beautiful

By Rebecca J |

Often crowded, its still a beautiful, protected bay with great underwater life, a restaurant on the beach, fish in the water, and sometimes a fat seal on the shore.

Beautiful beach for walking, snorkeling

By Susan K |

Calm waters perfect for snorkel, perfect beach walk with a seal sighting. Surf was awesome to watch.

Windy Day on our Visit but Still Fun

By LarsieB |

We were staying in the North Shore area during our stay in O'ahu so we got up early to snorkel in Turtle Bay. Unfortunately, the morning we went here it was extremely windy and the water was rough and murky to see through so not great for us. However, this place gets very busy and seems to be loved by a lot of people particularly the people staying at the resort. It is a protected area of water so on a positive note feels pretty safe to swim in. It's worth a visit but go when the weather conditions are decent to enjoy the water if snorkeling.

Great for Kids!!

By Badley72 |

So there is an area with a break wall made of lava that is perfect for snorkeling or playing with the kids even when the North Shore has rough seas, also you can walk on miles of unprotected beach with very little other foot traffic so pretty amazing and not your typical holiday beach, lots to discover.

Beautiful views, great staff!

By danmumford |

Turtle Bay is a beautiful resort. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The resort is well taken care of, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The views from most of the rooms are beautiful and wonderful ocean fulls. The only negative is the lack of dining options. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, but the restaurants are also expensive. We will stay there again and again.

Nice place for snorkeling and seeing turtles

By BubbleMarker |

Can get crowded during high tourist seasons but still not as bad as N shore or Waikiki. Take your snorkel gear and enjoy the water or layout on the beach.

A Very Special Place To Stay...

By Familyof3Midwest |

I was hesitate at first when I booked this property. I choose this destination over anywhere else for our family spring break trip in March of this year. The reviews can be mixed and I didn't want to be disappointed in my choice. Well let me tell you that it wasn't a mistake. We absolutely fell in love with the resort and the Northshore.

We were checked in to a room on the 4th Floor overlooking the beach area and ocean. It had the smaller balcony, but that was not a problem. Still an AMAZING view and a amazing view of the sunrise, moon, and the ocean.

Room was nothing special but was spacious and clean. Nice big bathroom area and shower. Two sink areas, a Keurig with Hawaiian K-cups, big closet, refrigerator, and electronic safe were the highlights. Beds and pillows were very comfortable.

Hotel grounds are nothing but spectacular. The pool area and the surrounding areas you can walk are just breath taking and it is why you spend the money to stay here.

We ate at all but one restaurant, but by far Lei's Lei's was our favorite and had the best wait staff also. The pool had excellent service and good food too. We ate Lunch everyday by the pool. Enough variety to do that over a weeks time.

The pool gift shop and sundries store had just about everything at reasonable prices. A wall full of medicine was available their also if anyone is looking for that.
Souvenirs galore, beer, wine, and liquor all available. There was two other stores in the hotel itself. One is where you can book the Spa and has ladies fitness and yoga clothes, and the other is a surf shop basically that also carries the Turtle Bay merchandise. The last shop is the Pro Shop at the golf course and is connected with Lei's Lei's. Very nice clothes, Turtle Bay hats , and other stuff for golfers also. Very nice and good size for a Pro Shop.

If you are thinking about booking this resort, don't let anyone's review stop you. Experience it for yourself and I doubt you will be disappointed. Yes it is expensive but you are in Hawaii's Northshore no where like it on Earth.

Great relaxing day

We came here today to enjoy the north shore area. It was a great day. The waves were calm and my kids got to see many fish. The crowds were not busy here today and we did manage to find free parking.

Public Beach Shared with A Resort

By John H |

It's Free! Both beach and parking, though the latter can be a problem because of the lot's proximity to a very large resort lot. The bay is small and protected by a reef. A more open and accessible beach is next door to the east. Backing the resort beach is a top-notch though expensive bar and restaurant. Sand is not as fine as can be found elsewhere on the island to the south. Very kid friendly. Bus lines visit the parking lot. Excellent for children

Beautiful, mostly protected bay

By Scott M |

Situated at Turble Bay Resort, the beach itself is open to the public and a busy spot on a nice day.

It's not at all the best snorkelling on the North Shore. However, in winter, it's one of the few locations that are protected by the swell.

We've seen turtles many times over the years, but naturally, you need a bit of luck, especially if you are there when it is busy.

You'll often find seals sunning themselves on the beach on hot days also.

You also have Roy's Beach Club Restaurant at the beach too inc some take-away options.

Not all that great

Beautiful beach. Not much marine life to see when snorkeling. Beach chairs cost $45 for two hour rental. The resort has a bar on the beach and an infinity pool.

Nice beach for young kids

By PNG98 |

Protected from larger waves. Many rocky spots. No chairs available unless you are staying at the hotel.

Beautiful beach &calm waters

Worth a stop in when in North Shore area. Beautiful beach to soak up some sun & calm waters to cool off in or snorkel around near the coral to see some fish.

Great Beginner Snorkeling

By MaximII |

Turtle Bay Beach (On, and just off the Turtle Bay Resort) is a great place to swim and snorkel. The area connected to the resort (which anyone can go to as all beaches are public), is a nifty little place for beginner snorkelers. It is protected by a wall of rocks, and is generally enclosed so there is little surf and almost no current. It generally doesnt get deeper than 6 or 7 feet. There is plenty of fish, and I've even seen little Moray Eels. I've heard there are turtles that frequent the beaches, but I've never seen any. Just plenty of fish and warm water.

The resort has plenty of parking at the back of their parking lot. It is labeled "Public Beach Parking" or something similar. When coming in from the highway, it is located on the right side just as you are coming up to the parking lot.

Paradise

Turtle Bay Beach

By Trudi S |

While visiting the North Shore we stopped at the Turtle Bay Beach Club to use the public beach access. The water was relatively warm and we saw several turtles while swimming. The beach is clean and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the location.

Nice bay

Quite isolated area. They have a large 5 star resort on site so there was access to toilets and a cafe. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit but definitely stop in if passing by

Fun & easy beach to snorkel

By Momof3inIA |

We really enjoyed snorkeling at Turtle Bay. There is a public beach entrance & free parking next to Turtle Bay resort. The beach is clean, although medium to small in size, but not at all crowded even in the weekend. The snorkeling here was great. Easy, moderate depth with a variety of fish to see. Nice, easy waves during the summer. Perfect for someone new to snorkeling too. There are restrooms & beach showers available.

Sun, sand, swim

All three things at one location. Can’t go wrong here. Parking is easy and free. Short walk to the beach and there are a lot of little spots to set up and start relaxing or swimming.

Loves blue stop signs.

Nice resort. Good location away from Honolulu. Watching surfers. Eerie radar domes. Lovely views from room balcony.

Had some big waves and it was fun, part of it was protected and was calm

Home to Green Turtles

By ITRT |

Turtle Bay gets its name from the green turtles that live there and is to the right of Turtle Bay Resort, the only resort on the North Shore of Oahu. It is known for its green turtles, and monk seals. However, we did not see any turtles or seals when we visited. Turtle Bay has been used as a film set for shows including as Lost and Pirates of the Caribbean and Hawaii Five-O. In the series Lost when you see the people running from the rainforest, the rainforest is the wooded area next to the resort.

Beautiful beach in North Shore

By WorldTravelers34 |

Our private tour guide brought us to this area and told us some detailed info about Turtle Bay Beach and the area. Kawela Bay/Turtle Bay is located on Oahu's northeastern tip, past Haleiwa and near Kahuku. Because there is a sea wall that protects the small bay from any rough waves, it makes snorkeling here very peaceful and allows the animals to roam around freely. You might even catch a glimpse of a Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle). The beach is somewhat crowded, but nothing like Waikiki. Turtle Bay has its own beach, with public access from the Turtle Bay Resort. It can also be accessed directly from the adjacent free parking lot.

Warm water, turtles found, a little murky

By Rob M |

We were skeptical that we wouldn't see any turtles when we got here but it turned out that we had one swimming near us and one on the beach! He/she blended in with the rocks on the beach so we about didn't see it when we walked down the beach. The water wasn't very clear here as the tide would push the sand around a lot and make it murky but we got to see what we came for. There really wasn't much else to see underwater, unlike Hanauma Bay and others. I think underwater cameras would be mostly useless as the visibility underwater and the restricted distance you have to stay away from the turtles would be a problem. Recommend Hanauma bay for a better snorkeling/camera experience. It wasn't too crowded when we went in the later part of the morning. Maybe others knew something we didn't.

Best Snorkelling for Kids

By Ashburton05 |

This is our pick of places to snorkel on Oahu, especially for kids. It's protected from the ocean and a great little beach.

Park in the hotel parking lot (make sure you're in a visitor's spot) and walk through the grounds to the beach. At first it feels like you're intruding or trespassing because you're walking through the hotel grounds and setting yourself up on the beach next to the hotel's sun loungers, but it's a public beach and you're allowed here.

We loved having the food place on the beach for quick snacks and even got to see a sea lion sunning itself meters from us. They section of the swimming area so you're away from the rip and it feels really safe. Our kids learned to snorkel here and were over joyed at what they saw.

The only negative is lack of public toilets and taps for washing sandy feet.

Nice view of the North Shore

By Daniel C |

Turtle Bay beach is a nice beach but is surrounded by the resort and golf club and this not the best public beach to visit. It was a nice place to walk and watch the waves though.

Small beach by the resort

By Aparna J |

A nice little cove right next to the hotel. There are much nicer beaches on the north shore so unless you are staying at the hotel, I'd skip.

Loved snorkeling here!

By gorgegnh |

I had a great time snorkeling here! I saw some amazing fish here. I saw an Christmas Wrasse and a Turkey fish just to name a few. It was so fun!

Do your research

By RASHI P |

Wasted this horrible morning. Only go early in the morning if u actually want to see something. Went early noon and saw two stupid turtles from the distance. Can’t go swimming because of rocks and algae and drive and hour there and an hour back for nothing. Only go if your close by to the place.

Very nice, protected beach for all ages.

By Debbie V |

We did not stay at the hotel in Turtle Beach, but we did visit this beach several times during our stay on the north shore. A lot of the beaches on the north shore are surf spots and not really conducive for family beach days. While my son is a surfer and likes the waves, we needed a spot to go for his 1 year old. So glad someone recommended this to us.

Even though it is part of the resort, they allow public access to the beach here (Hawaii rule). You are not allowed to use the resort's amenities such as towels or umbrellas or beach chairs, so you will need to bring your own. However, you do have access to the restaurants and bars there for food, drinks, etc.
This worked out perfectly for us.

The beach is somewhat wind protected so the surf is not as high or rough. The sand is nice and it never felt too crowded. Having food and drinks available to us was a bonus.
We saw a seal on the beach here and there are some beautiful walks you can take from this point as well.

A good place to visit the beach for sure. And looks like a nice resort also. I hope one day I can review that too!

Stunning Beach, Easy Parking, Beautiful Fish and a Monk Seal!

By mrspotts12 |

Worth the drive. Don't think you can't use the beach even if you're not staying at Turtle Bay. This is a nice little place for beginning snorkelers. Easy entrance into the water and a sandy area for the kids to play. Visibility can be so so, but just moving to a different area in the bay may help. Not a ton of fish but great variety.
The real treat for us was seeing the endangered Monk Seal. With only 1400 left, who knows if we'll ever get another chance.
Another plus is great parking, facilites and if you want, you can sit down at the bar and have a drink.
