We enjoyed this place. Lots of displays from live animals to fossils. Very knowledgeable staff to answer questions. We got to see the feeding of Ossie, the 2 year old loggerhead turtle. He will be released into the wild at 3 years old.

The science center had several aquariums with fish and turtles in them. There was a small touch tank with sand dollars, sea stars, and horseshoe crabs.

A very kid friendly and interesting place to stop. The entire family will enjoy this place. I would recommend the stop!

We absolutely loved this place!! We started the day with the Sift & Seine program. The guide took us down to the beach, where we got into the water to sift through the sand for organisms. We didn't find much there other than a few butterfly clams, but we had never seen live ones, and it was really cool to see how they moved in the water! While we were sifting, our guide found a cannonball jellyfish that we got to experience & learn about (cannonball jellies don't sting! I had no idea!), then a moon jellyfish washed up on shore & she taught us all about that. It was so cool!! After that, we took the Seine net into the water to see what we could find. It took a while for us to catch anything, but seining in the ocean was really fun, even though we didn't have immediate success. If you do this activity, you definitely need to wear a swimsuit. Between using the net & the ocean waves, we were absolutely drenched afterward! I was glad to be wearing a swimsuit.

Later in the day, we came back for a Turtle Talk, which my family also highly recommends. This was more of a lecture style class, not a hands on adventure like the Sift & Seine. That said, the instructor presented the material in a captivating way. We got to see & touch turtle shells, turtle egg shell fragments, bones, and an entire turtle skull! We learned a ton of fascinating things about sea turtles, then we went downstairs to feed Ike, the Center's resident sea turtle, who just moved downstairs to a bigger tank.

After our Turtle Talk, we had about 10-15 minutes before the center closed, so we went to their aquarium & touch tanks. While we were up there, our instructor from earlier called us over to see a baby alligator that she was holding! She also talked is through all sorts of interesting things in the touch tank.

I HIGHLY recommend going to the Marine Science Center and participating in these activities. This place is small, but it makes great use of it's space on the beach & proximity to the ocean. It's packed with information and staffed by passionate people who are enthusiastic about the environment.

WOW! We haven't been here in many years and found the place completely new and different! The old place was great and the new place is even greater!

The exhibits here are very well done - animals to see and animals to touch and animal parts to learn from. BUT - as with our past visits, it is the people who make this place most special. They are all very knowledgeable and very interested in what they do, plus they are ready to share. We had a troop of Girl Scouts age 9 to 17 and they all loved the visit! Thank you so much to all the great people working on Saturday, July 16th who made our visit awesome!

The childrens favorite besides the beach. They would have gone every day. Small but nice displays. Interesting collection of sea animals and knowledgeable people.

Be sure and go to the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. They have some great things to see. They also offer nature walks so you can learn more about this beautiful place.

My husband and I spent the day on Tybee Island and had a great visit to this small Marine Science Center. While kids would love it, we both enjoyed it. We limed the rotating displays of bones and other items which staff members gladly explained. All the animals were beautiful and we loved the sea turtle! We elected to extend our visit and took a beach walk with Marine Educator Allie that was interesting and informative. I would highly recommend a visit to the center when visiting Tybee Island. They will be moving to a new, larger center in the near future so that will be a real plus.

By lwaters487 |

I visit Tybee every summer. The marine science center is good if you have never been. Not very elaborate but would be fascinating for children with a film and a touch tank. Something to keep in mind is that it is right behind the pier and you do not have to pay to go in the doors. The gift shop is right there and has lots and lots of science/ocean stuff.

By Trudy B |

We had a well informed, interesting tour guide who educated us on turtles and how they are at risk and what we can do to help. We watched Matthew the turtle get a treat at the conclusion of our visit. We also got to do a behinds the scene tour which was fun and an unexpected treat!

By Lori E |

The science center is not quite ready for prime time yet as they are still in the process of moving into their new space. They do have a few interactive pieces to enjoy and some live aquatic life to view. They also have a lovely view of the beach and the building is lovely and appears like it will be a great place to visit once finished.

The workers are all friendly and will answer your questions.

Be sure to stop by and support the science center they are doing great work for the wildlife of Tybee.

The price is now $10/person to visit.

By Gem G |

This place is absolutely adorable! Loved seeing the baby sea turtle Ossie who was in rehab and meeting the adult Westy. The exhibits are well put together and the docents are adorable. The Terrapin turtles were to die for! Great fossil area and gift shop. We will definitely return here with kids!

By Shelley S |

Took my 7 and 3 yr old here. It is VERY tiny. I'd say you'd spend no more than an hour here. Lots of parking and was next to a huge pier and very close by was a street of shops. They had a small gift shop, and small fish, turtles and alligators. The coolest part was a small touch pool where kids could reach in and touch sea life. It was inexpensive so worth it for the price.

By GirlTurtle |

I love how this center helps wildlife, especially turtles. They also provide wild life walks each day that are a must to go on. Be sure to visit this place!

By wedcarter |

Small facility staffed by very enthusiastic employees and volunteers. Recommend the behind-the-scenes husbandry tour. Tybee takes their conservation efforts seriously and you can see that when you visit. Recommended.

By Shaeraven |

This provided some really good information for visitors that may not be familiar with the coast. It is definitely geared toward kids, but my husband and I really enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly in answering all my 'mountain-girl' questions!

By Gigi’s Mom |

My husband, my son & I went for a turtle talk yesterday. Allie the lady doing the presentation was very informative & she was down to earth. We left there knowing a lot more about turtles than before. I loved it. Definitely go a turtle talk if you are in Tybee. I would recommend not taking small kids because it’s more of adult thing.

By Shawna R |

This was near our rental so we decided to visit. It cost $60 for 5 of us to visit which was with a military discount. The center overall is very small and we were done within 30-45 minutes. It was very congested. Our kids ranged in age from 7-16 and were bored quickly. There was a small touch tank that our 7 year old enjoyed. Overall expensive for a large family based on what was there.

By Todd M |

Great place to take kids. It's not huge and is actually small. But, as something to do and see, its a decent visit. My kids enjoy it each time we visit.

By Sandy N |

I took my class (self-contained high support Autism class) to Tybee yesterday 5/9/17 to participate in an educational program though the Science Center. To be honest this was our first field trip that would put us near the ocean and I was anxious, however our experience was absolutely amazing due to the staff at the Science Center. Our educator Joy was wonderful, patient, and understanding of our students unique needs and learning making it an appropriate and enjoyable experience for everyone. My students had a blast and I CAN'T wait to take them again next year and hope to have Joy again!!!!

By Linda1957_13 |

Although it is small, the exhibits are interesting and well done. The staff was very cheerful and helpful. We were visiting with our grandchildren. Signed up for the "Sift and Seine". We had fun and learned about the marine life we found. Highly recommend!

By Tom S |

We walked in on a lark after seeing their sign. This is really a "wildlife and stranding rescue "organization that is housed in the former beachside police station. Consider the minor $5 entrance fee a contribution to a good cause. We just happened to time it right to get in on one of their "behind the scenes" tours and lectures from one of their husbandry technicians that was worth WAY more than the $5. We learned all but about a half a dozen of the animals there are actually rescues that are in rehab and will be released back to the wild environment. The rest are animals people have brought in or were injured and can't be released so they are permanent residents or go to schools as pets, etc. Fun facts, did you know cat food is a good food for turtles or that pigeons can't fly then their feathers are wet ?

By Classy1 |

My daughter and i decided to check out the Tybee Nature Center before we walked the beach. It is very small. It took us about 10 minutes, but we enjoyed it.

By gpec24 |

Small space but definitely worth the visit! There were 4 small rooms set up with tanks and a touch tank. It was really neat to see the different marine life. We were approached by 2 staff members regarding any questions we had in the first 20 minutes we were there. We stayed for the behind the scenes tour (included in the $5) and saw some new creatures that were being rehabilitated before display. Great hour or so spending time with the sea creatures!

By AlabamaAngel |

This is a small science center located in the parking lot of the Tybee Island beach. Our family spent about 30-45 minutes here. It is worth the price of admission to the see the marine life and read about their habitats. We really enjoyed seeing the baby turtles!

By Kevin T |

Really great venue with very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Was a nice break from the eat and we look forward to hearing about Ike's release!

By Brian B |

Everything looked kind of old and way too small but staff was very knowledgeable and awesome. It was ok, prolly wouldnt go back or recommend.

By K. Ely |

You must stop here when on Tybee Island. We went twice...first time to see the science center. Then we signed up to go back the next day for the sea turtle presentation and learned so much. Parking is limited near the science center since it is near the beach and Tybee Island Pier..costs $3.00 per hour to park. But it is worth it.

By Kala310 |

Interesting small Science Center. Friendly gentleman at the entrance, but a little disappointing that the AAA advertised senior discount was not available. Still worth the cost to enjoy a view of some of the local sea life.

By eagledress85 |

We were a bit disappointed by the Marine Science Center. First, I thought admission was quite expensive for what it provided. The area is REALLY small and we couldn't even see everything because there were too many people and we couldn't all fit to see things. They send you to the basement to see displays and there really isn't anything to see. Then, back upstairs to see the ocean creatures. That was probably the best part. We probably wouldn't go back again.

By jonna g |

We stopped in on a very hot day. Everyone was so nice and knowledgeable. They answered all our questions about the turtles. We got to go behind the scenes and see the animals they are rehabbing. We enjoyed several of the turtles because they had s ton of personality, who knew. It is very small, $5 to get in and literally on the beach. I heard people grumbling about the price but really it's basically going towards the sea turtles so I didn't see the problem. In and out in 30 minutes. Ike, the 2 year turtle loves people! Always coming to the front of the tank and checking you out!

By Nancy L |

The center is housed in a small building in the middle of a busy tourist section, but well worth the effort to stop in. The tanks and displays are loaded with creatures, and monitors constantly run relevant and interesting information. But the best part is the "beach walk" tour option. An incredibly knowledgeable and engaging staff lead you along the shoreline calling attention to countless items of interest and highlighting the abundance and diversity of the wildlife along the coast. I could have stayed on the beach tour for another hour......or more!

By daryl21 |

I was expecting something similar to an aquarium. The entire center is two small rooms with a few tanks of small fish and turtles. Took about 10 minutes to see the whole thing. Ok for a quick stop if you are planning a trip to the beach, but not worth going out of your way to visit.

By DAKStrue |

There is so much more to this marine science center than meets the eye! They have hundreds of objects on display, many of which are actual fossils from sea creatures. There are tons of really interesting, interactive things, and the turtle talk was very, very educational. We even got to see a baby loggerhead turtle, and the feeding of a two-year-old logger head! There are many sea creatures on display. They mostly do rehabilitation and education. The place is set on a beautiful part of the north beach on the island and you can have lunch at a bar/grill right there and then go take a walk on the beach. Loved it loved it loved it. The only reason I didn’t give a five stars is because the gentleman who narrated the talks we heard was kind of “blah” about everything. I’m sure they get tired of repeating the same information every day, but he could have been a little bit more personable.

By Martha C |

Hannah did such a nice job guiding my family in their quest for shark teeth. She's knowledgeable and explains thoroughly. We learned a lot and thank her.
We give this tour *****.

By Crystal A |

We loved the Marine Science Center. The animals were so cute and the fossil room was really neat. The employees and volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit.

By Sheri N |

You certainly won't spend a lot of time here, but that's a good thing in my opinion. It kept our kids' attention while we were there and it was interesting, so that's what counts. I think the $5 fee is more than fair considering the work they are doing for the island and animals.

By Companion30887445581 |

Facility is beautiful and the staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Recommend participating in one of their experiences for a little more cost. Well worth it. Our Sea Turtle talk was very informative and our instructor Alex did a great job educating us on sea turtles and their conservation efforts.

By Carp04 |

This research and visitor center is right on the beach and next door to Hotel Tybee. It houses marine life and has biologists right there to just waiting to talk about the animals there. They also have a ‘behind the scenes’ talk where they show you what they do with animals brought to the center who might be sick or orphaned and how they will try to get them back into the wild. They also have educational talks about various topics. It is inexpensive and also has a gift shop. We enjoyed our time there.

By Josie |

Very nice Science Center and so close to the beach! We enjoyed walking through and interacting with the aquatic life. The turtles are friendly even through the glass! Excellent for families with young children and field trippers too! Great price ... only $5! We were lucky enough to be able to talk to people who worked there and took care of the animals as well as watching the caregivers and veterinary staff!

By jljewell27 |

A small fee is required for admission, but worth it for a very worthy cause. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and very invested in their little charges. Enjoyed the gift shop too.

By jmich4 |

Took a Marsh Trek on January 17 with Allie in Spanish Hammock sponsored bythe Marine Center. It was wonderful, educational and fun. Kids would especially trekking in the mud! Allie was awesome. We have had a house here for 10 years and I still learned things about the ecosystem as well as the organisms that inhabit our Marsh lands. We need to do more to protect them and supporting the marine Center and learning about this water system we are gifted with helps. Thank so much.

By Angie J |

We did not go on any of the tours, we just went through the center ourselves. Kids (8 and 12) loved it. A little smaller than I expected but great for the price. Touch tank was great.

By Bill L |

Great place to learn about local sea life of coastal Ga.
Fun for entire family especially small children.
Right on beach so good place to take a break from the mid day sun

By wagmal |

Family of six. We loved seeing all the animals. More specifically the sea turtles. The playground was also great for the kids to run off some energy. I’d love to see someone donate a sun shade or trees around the playground though as the slide was so hot our 2 year old was crying.

By LESA H |

Had really cool marine life in there, just very small place . It only took about 5 - 10 minutes to tour and that was it.

By Travel798878 |

We arrived within 20 minutes of closing. We were able to see everything. One employee stood out by not rushing us and educated us on shark teeth. Worth seeing.

By James P |

Great time! Very Informative! Nice aquariums inside. Definitely do again. Missed the board walk. Walk on beach was great, different shells. Also talked about birds. And highlighted pollution and things we as individuals can do. Lead by example!!

By ADCollier |

Stopped in on a break from birdwatching in the area. The Staff were very friendly and excited about the work they do. Justin did a great job showing us around and explaining their mission. The place is small, but the exhibits are well done for the space available.

By somethingclevr |

This place is small but for a quick thing to do to pass time it is great! The admission is reasonable and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend

By AmandaJWill |

We make a point to visit every time we come to Tybee. It is a small venue, but never disappoints. The staff is so knowledgeable and the kids always love getting up close and personal with the wildlife. A personal favorite is their turtles that they usually have in residence. Definetly make time to stop in when you are on the island.

By ColumbiaMDPercolate |

It's a little hard to find but well worth stopping in before hitting the beach. Their displays about sea turtles, and other animals of the ocean are quite informative and staff are eager to tell you about the animals and plants of the area.

By busyatlantamom |

Went with our Girl Scout troop. Great place, nice exhibits. Excellent location. Backroom tour is very nice, too. Gift shop had some nice things I haven't seen elsewhere. Great budget activity.

By Brian Smilowska |

My Daughter went here with her Girl Scouts this past week and everyone had a blast. They Learned a lot from a really kid friendly staff that was really knowledgeable and friendly. They love the crabs and Sand Dollars. My Daughter was scared at first but she like being able to hold and touch all the different sea life and learn about them as well. We lived in Georgia for three years and never went, it took a girl scout trip to see this place and now I wish we would have gone sooner.

By bayoumanMichigan |

The Marine Science Center is a waste of time and money. This a very small "science" center. The souvenir shop is about the same size as the exhibits.
Maybe the worst part of the experience was seeing how dirty the tanks and the rest of the place was.

By justus1406 |

We have been to Tybee many times, but never stopped in here. We are so glad we did. Lots of interesting creatures to watch and loads of information. I loved the gift shop! The staff here is very helpful and informed!

By WaterGirlDreaming |

First, the good news...staff/volunteers were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and cared for the creatures in their care. It's not a big place, and there are a few animals on display, baby turtles and alligators, a few very small hermit crabs, rays and star fish. There are some interesting fossils and artifacts but that's about it. We saw everything in about 15-20 minutes, and that included talking to the staff at each display. There's a nice playground, but who would pay $10 to let the kiddos play on a playground when you can walk to Jaycee park and they can play on a really nicer playground for free.

By sheldn |

Really great marine life educational center representing the sea life in the area. We got to see Ike a soon to be released sea turtle that had concerns at hatching time. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. A $5 donation gets you in all day long.

By doolittle33 |

Brand new Marine Science Center. Still in progress, it doesn't take long to visit. I am happy to donate to such a place. I enjoyed talking to one of the staff who was very knowledgeable. A great playground for children. Their mission is righteous and educational.

By Jan W |

Very reasonable and informative. My daughter loved being able to touch some of the marine life and being able to see first hand what was in the ocean.

By evanandsue1 |

At $5 per person, the cost is not bad, and all money helps to support the animals. The facility has 3 tiny, very cramped rooms. My mothers wheel chair barely squeezed through, and it is smaller. The behind the scenes tour was informative. They only had 1 sea turtle, and he hid from view. When we left, we found a $35 parking ticket on our car. We saw no indication that we had to pay, or we would have. Visitors be sure to find out about parking fees. Because it is so small, with only 1 sea turtle who hides, we would not return.

By BrianFatz |

nice helpful staff available for questions; was hoping for more animals, but its a science center, not a zoo - hope their new future building goes well as they do good, important rescue/rehab work

By ckyama |

This is a small center, but is packed with information about sea life. We did not take a guided hike, but it would be worthwhile.

By Samantha E |

Neat place with several species of turtles, fish, crabs, and more. They had two loggerhead sea turtles when we were there. Ike is 2.5 years old and will be released this summer, and Wetsel is only 9 months old! My 16 and 10 year old boys had a great time. It isn’t a very big place, it took a little over an hour. Staff were all very nice, and it felt like they enjoyed answering our questions. We will go again in the future just to see what new things they have. Oh and admissionis only $10/person, cheapest activity you’ll find around here.

By Klomarie |

This place is kinda cool for kids, however, it is what it is. When you look at the outside and think to yourself - hmmm this seems a little small - Well it is... There are seriously like 2-3 rooms of aquariums with sea critters in them. That is it. There is not a lot to this and I think having a fee at all is a little ridiculous.

By Maria r |

Dear Tybee island Marine Science center,

We wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for the service we received during our visit on June 16, 2024. Our group of 10 kids and 5 adults was quite large, but your staff showed remarkable patience, kindness, and willingness to help us out.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed their time down by the ocean front learning about the shells. Our tour guide was very patient with our kids who didn’t seem as interested in the activity but were interested in the ocean waves. Their FAVORITE part was using the net to get the fish. They also enjoyed being able to pick up the animals in the hands on tank.

I want to say a HUGE thank you for being patient with our group when we had one girl who fell on the playground during the first waiting time. Thanks for the patient we were able to let her make the choice on what she needed at that time and return to the group. Just so you all know turns out she is completely fine and there are no complaints to this day.

Please keep up the Fantastic work! We appreciate your hard work and look forward to sharing this stopping point with other Girl Scout troops who may be passing through the area.

Thank you again for your hospitality.

Sincerely,
Girl Scout Troop 2442 & 255
From Indiana

We signed up for the Sift and Seine program and had a wonderful time! It was very informative and fun! We plan to do it again on our return visits. It was also easy to make a reservation online.

My wife and I took the Marsh Excursion on Sunday October 21,2018. Sydney was our naturalist. We both loved the tour. It is a few minutes away from the Science Center. The passion Sydney has for her job and the subject manner really shined through. Being from the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee, the coastal terrain is foreign to me. It was so enjoyable to learn about the three levels of salt tolerance and the plants that survive in each and how easily defined their lines were. We were able to see fiddler crabs by the hundreds run in, out and away from us. We heard marsh shrimp clicking. Blue crabs were in a puddle and we were able to see the difference between the male and female. All of this just off the road. So much information about palms, hollies, marsh pickles. Just a cool experience for little money. One of the highlites of our trip. Be warned, you will get muddy. If that is a problem for you, pick a different activity. Thanks, Sydney. Had a great time.

By Jennifer M |

Truly a place for children and campers. while animals looked well cared for, the information provided was very basic and a few exhibits weren't labeled correctly. Little children though would love to see the little turtles etc.

By Dustin L |

This little group of exhibits is only 5 dollars for anyone over 4. While people complain of it being small or goes by too fast, you have to realize that you are donating to a great cause that does good conservation work in the area. We got a good 30 minutes out of the visit with our 3 year old as we identified the fish in each tank, spent lots of time at the touch tank, and read the informative illustrations.

By Rose B |

Make sure when you go to the pier on Tybee Island that you stop by the Marine Science Center. THe staff were so friendly and eager to answer any questions we had. We got to see them feeding several of the sea creatures. I had never seen a live sea horse until we visited the Marine Science Center. Thisis a great place for people of all ages, very interesting.

By Jill T |

We love stopping by on our trips to Tybee. The touch tank is a favorite of our family. If you ever get a chance be sure to stop by for a visit.

By crystalp82705 |

We really enjoyed the turtle talk! It was very informative and we learned a lot. Admission to the Marine center is included when you book the talk, so this was well worth it. All the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

By Samuel J |

my friends and I stopped over to see what they had to offer. the center had 2500 gallons of water in display tanks with animals ranging from shrimp to different fishes and turtles found in the local waters off Tybee Island. They had periodic programs specific to educating the kids and adults alike including a behind the scenes tour and Q&A session. All the volunteers were knowlegible in marine science and answered all of our questions. The displays are constantly changing, so you need to stop by periodically to see the "new stuff". Also, if you find yourself with some sea animal that is in need of rescue, bring them here as they are set up to help.

By Judy N |

Wow, for a tiny structure, the staff has certainly managed to provide so many wonderful LIVE specimens for us to become familiar with and learn from, in what seems to be a very natural environment. Turtles, Terrapins, and Tortoises, as I learned - each in a tank or terrarium in which they can flourish. Everyone who works there has unmistakable fondness, respect, and protectiveness for all things related to marine life. We got a seasonal pass and will bring in all our visitors when they come down. Great gift shop, also!

By Michelle S |

This was a neat place to visit and learn about marine life. Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. Adults and children both enjoyed our visit there.

By Engigeek |

A few bucks gets you into this small attraction. They are breaking ground on a new center very soon. The information and aquariums within were nice and the staff will answer any questions about the area marine life that you may have. Friendly people. Would take friends there again.

By Bobv-54 |

We dropped into the Marine Science Center to see what it was all about. We discovered a wonderful little set of displays that educated us about the local aquatic life. We caught the Wednesday feeding of the snake and learned about some of the characters there: the tortoise who bangs on the glass to get your attention and Mathew, the sea turtle who wouldn’t stay still for pictures.
The staff were very generous explaining what they do there.
Highly recommended for all.

By gotnousername |

Loved this one hour experience learning about sea turtles! Justin was fabulous- he provided a lot of interesting information about the many different sea turtle species and was able to answer all of our questions. After the presentation which consisted of discussion, videos, artifacts, and anecdotes, we were able to watch him feed the sea turtle currently housed at the center. Well worth the price!!!!

By Katherine H |

We just happened into the middle of the behind the scenes tour with Justin; what a great teacher!! Thank you! We will definitely be back!

By Lee Ann M |

I have visited this center twice and it is still interesting. The animals change frequently and they have a resident sea turtle that you can get come face-to-face with through the glass. They focus on education and conservation of marine life and do alot of conservative projects in the area. My daughter who is 8 and her grandmother did the turtle talk and found it to be informative. The talk was up stairs and I was unable to join her but watched the biologist feed the turtle. I highly recommend this small but interesting place!

By Tom R |

Small but truly dedicated to the marine life. We appreciated the touching tank and I was glad to hold a starfish and a spider crab. So glad to see several turtles and like to watch them playing in the water, especially the one with the ball. This was great stop

By mcamm5 |

Our troop loved our visit to the Tybee Island Marine Science Center . We did the 2 hour tour with a beach walk. Our guide (Alli) was amazing and spent so much time with the girls explaining things and answering all of our questions. She made it a lot of fun and we all learned a lot. I highly recommend it for Girl Scout troops.

By Eileen D |

Went with a big group of Girl Scouts with some form
Of storm likely coming. However, weather kept changing and we were able to do our tour and beach activity without issues. Our marine biologist, Monica was full of great info and we spent a lot oft the talking about some of the smallest creatures and also how to keep the seas cleaner The inside of the center holds a variety of creatures in the
Marshes and the ocean This is not a difficult tour and would be great on a rainy day too to take up some time and learn about the area. Ask about the Georgia lemurs when you are there. Have fun

By tiannaccone |

Very cool! Step inside to cool off and see some interesting things. Kids will love this parents will love that the kids love this. Located right at the beach here in Tybee, next to the life guard office.

By Sandi C |

The staff was very friendly and informative. The center is conveniently located next to the Tybee Island pier.

By 711sales |

what a great guide very informational and fun at the same time Would suggest comfortable walking shoes

By kishiab_13 |

Justin was out guide. He was awesome. He was so patient and extremely knowledgeable about everything we found. Our daughter said "If there were a hundred stars I'd give him all of them!

By wanderer |

This is super small literally 4 rooms the size whole thing is the size of a small house in the parking lot of south beach at the foot of the pier. Very small display of animals and the smallest touch pond I have ever seen about the size of a coffee table. It is cheap $5 and you can do tours that sounded good but are super super limited like book at least a week ahead in summer booked they are $10 also cheap. We spent maybe 30 minutes and we walked it 2x. I considered the $15 we spent to get in more of a conservation donation so I felt ok about it but don't go in thinking you'll see anything you can't see in a pet store.

By Maxim D |

This is a quick brief view of marine life in Tybee Island. The big feature is the sea turtle, Ike. Takes about 30 to 45min to look at everything. They also give you zn opportunity to have your children to touch shell fish. It is really 4/5, however the customer service pushed to a 5/5.

By Nathan B |

The staff was friendly, and the tiny sea creatures(fish, crabs, turtles, etc) were fun for our kids to see.

There was a room with starfish, hermit crabs etc, that the kids were allowed to touch and hold.

The only downside of the exhibit though, is it's a little on the small side, it's mostly for the kids, but my wife and I enjoyed it all the same.

The gift shop was nice, and one last perk was that it was just a short walk from the main part of the beach!

I would rate this as a poor because it just didn't provide very much for the cost. The person working admissions couldn't get the credit card machine to work which does happen but it was interesting to see his approach to trying. I would give this stop 10-15 minutes top.

By lisa s |

This was a small marine science center packed with alot of marine life and interesting information for the bargain price of only $5.00. I almost short-changed myself and considered not visiting b/c I assumed it was just for kids - not true! I am 40 years old and really enjoyed this little place! The guy at the desk was very nice and enthusiastic!

By Alisha C |

Only $5 to get in but very small. Cute little info spots with a few tanks but all money collected goes to research/ rehab for the marine life so I didn't mind spending the money. Nice gift shop in the entrance as well.

By Holly426 |

Ali, who holds a degree in marine science, did a spectacular job informing our group about the marine life particular to the area, and explaining the science behind the tides, beach erosion, and dangers of pollution. She carried around a little bubbler pack containing animals just in case we didn’t run into them on our walk. She was knowledgeable in her answers to question from adults and patient and kind to those from the children on our walk. Cost of this hour walk was only $10. I will come back again with out of town visitors and request Ali as our guide.

By dena b |

This place was well worth the entrance fee of $5.00. Although it is small, they still have a good collection and you can learn a lot. One benefit of a smaller marine science center is that you get to interact with the workers there who are very pleasant and will gladly answer any questions you have. I went with someone who wants to be a marine biologist and the marine biologist there talked to her personally and offered invaluable information. This is one place not to miss when you visit Tybee!

By redscorp25 |

We planned the Barrier Island Patch Program and chose our activities - the guided gallery tour, beach walk, and sand sifting. The kids loved it! They learned a lot about local marine life and even got to meet (and name) a newly rescued turtle! They named him "Scout". Perfect! The guides were great - they knew their stuff and you could really tell how much they cared about what they did. This was an awesome experience.

By ambervause79 |

took the kids to visit the Marine Science Center while visiting Tybee. Was impressed the the marine life that they have inside. That being said, they definitely are in need of expansion. Too many visitors and too little space make for a cramped visit. Other than space, no complaints.

By David N |

If there were 6 stars. It would get all six. Beautiful, relatively new marine science center, well staffed with both paid, volunteer and university student assistance. Very responsive to any question you might have about the numerous sea animals in their care. This is not a zoo, but they do display a number of turtles and other beasts that can't be released.
They have immature sea animals that will be released after they reach an appropriate size. Great place for kids of all ages. If you get to Savannah don't miss this stop.

By deleslie1956 |

Enjoyed seeing the hatchling and young sea turtles and being able to pet a sea star and conch. Appreciated the animal care chart description. Seems set mainly for school groups, less so for walk-in visitors. Would be ideal to have a roving naturalist to engage with adult visitors. Impressive gift shop and display of turtle nest and updated numbers of turtle nests along the barrier islands.

By Ramya V |

This was a very nice place to visit. Definitely recommend going beyond just visiting and doing other activities they offer. We did turtle talk and sift and seine -- so much fun to see live animals and interact with them! Highly recommend!

By Scot C |

Just a small place doing big things. They have a nice little aquarium. It was only$5.00. They also were working with the area beaches on saving the turtles and gave us a lot of info. About the turtles marked by our house. Very knowledgeable staff.

By Charles C |

We have been to many aquariums over our 73 years, but Tybee's Marine Science Center has the most creative, artistic, and eye-catching displays of information about their in-house animals, many other sea creatures and the ocean environment we've ever seen. Wonderfully done. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable, especially Cully, who took us on a behind the scenes tour, where we got to pet the resident box turtle, Stella. The children in our group loved it. The center is small, but that makes it so good for the younger ones and us older ones, too. There is a lot of information to absorb, but it's not overwhelming. A very valuable experience. Sue & Neale Clopper

By LindaBrau |

Book your tour early, especially the sift and seine it fills up fast. I can't wait to see the replacement turtle next fall.

By Lindsey S |

Friendly and helpful staff, but the center is very small, 3 small rooms and a gift shop. We maybe spent 10-15 minutes here. They have a 2 year old and baby Loggerhead sea turtle, a small touch tank, baby alligators, and various fish. Ok, but dont expect to spend a lot of time there.

By Michelle B |

I loved this place! I only had 10 minutes to explore before a kayaking tour & I got so much out of that 10 minutes! The employees and volunteers are so into the animals & really seemed to love sharing their knowledge about them. The enclosures were clean, & the animals looked happy. I wanted to go back later that day, but I ran out of time. Love this place & Tybee Island!

By wen1232015 |

Small but informative. The staff were knowledgeable. It wasn't expensive to get and I'd go back again.

By Erin |

We have been to many aquariums that are much larger and didn't receive the same amazing experience as we did at the Marine Science Center. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable; they engaged out little ones (2, 3, and 4) and just made the experience. There was a touch tank which was one of the highlights; we all loved all the marine animals; and we spent about an 1 hour and a half in the facility! They are building a bigger facility and honestly we will probably be scheduling a trip back to Tybee Island just to check it out when the new facility is built! We also did the Marsh Trek that they offer, and it did not disappoint!

By Kim R |

The Marine Science Center is very small, but so is the fee for entry! They've got some great exhibits and marine life and the staff is fantastic! While in the center, Justin showed me around and was very knowledgeable and super friendly. They've also got some programs available for a very low cost. I was able to fit a "marsh walk" into my schedule. It was absolutely fantastic! I happened to be the only person signed up for the marsh walk that day, and to my surprise, they did not cancel it. The tour guide (whose name I can not remember) was as great as Justin had been the day before in the center. Her knowledge and friendliness made for a truly special lesson in the beautiful Tybee marsh.

By Steve P |

I am sure young children would find this exciting. For we older folks it was not that interesting. The staff were very nice.

By Grelat |

We took a marsh trek with Cheyenne and it was wonderful! My kids (aged 9&6) loved it. She spoke on their level but gave interesting information. Would definitely recommend!

By Jacreekmore |

My kids ages 10 and 12 really enjoyed this museum. The staff was friendly and informational. We loved the tough pool and turtle the most!

By Veropeach |

Small touch tank with live shells that I can find myself on the beach. A large class was standing in the center of one of the rooms for what seemed like an eternity. We never could pass through so my husband and I just left without seeing anything past the touch tank. At least our money went to a good cause.

By shannon b |

We went with our Cub Scout troop. Our tour guide was very capable with wrangling 10 young boys. We seined and identified animals and shells. The touch tank and the exhibit were very well done.

By Angela |

We really enjoyed it! It is a small center, but we really liked the exhibits. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We loved meeting Ike the Sea turtle!

By Lynette C |

The Marine Science Center is very small, but well worth a visit. They are supposed to have a new facility by 2019 on North Beach that will be much bigger, so we are looking forward to that. They offer behind the scenes tours (which are short since there's not much to show), and several beach walks available. When my kids are older, I hope to take advantage of more of their walks.

By Ronnie H |

We took a Girl Scout troop to Tybee Island. We did an educational program. The educator worked well with the girls. We walked on the beach to search for sea life and also did seining activities. The girls had a good time.

By angelone471 |

For 5 dollars it was very nice and informative. Didn't get to do the beach hike but will try next time.

By kevinpN4948VR |

Wonderful little center with nice aqauriums and exhibits. A small venue with hands on touch tank and knowledgeable staff. For a $5 donation it is a great way to spend 30-45 minutes. located beachfront at the pier, we walked out the pier afterwards for beautiful ocean views. Close to all the beach bars as well!

By Donna L |

We had a great tour here. It is small but has interesting displays and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Inexpensive. Nice gift shop.

By sgtserta |

My 4 year old son and 5 year old daughter really enjoyed this spot. It is a small space but packed with a good bit of organisms to see. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable.

By Ms Rodriguez |

If you have large families or small children's you may love to bring them here and see they faces shine with all the thinks this place has to offer.

By 6infamily |

The building is new and very nice. It does not take long to walk through, but there is lots of information and great displays; many of them hands on. The place is a work in progress. I thing they just move in to this new building. So I think it will be even better soon. The room with the tanks with the turtles and fish was awesome!

By Angela R |

We had a great adventure! The children loved behind the scenes and feeding Matthew the sea turtle! Well worth it! Hi point of our day.

By ShannonW |

We came during a field trip. The building is a lot smaller than I thought. The staff is very passionate about what they do! Love it!

By mirandasrs |

I took my Girl Scout troop and we earned the Coastal Georgia Badge. We seined and caught small jellyfish, caught ocean snails, saw a sea turtle nest and learned lots.

By cheryl n |

Small but very informative. Loved all the turtles. The views were pretty amazing from here. Take 30 mins to step inside and check out the animals.

By lemoore82 |

Such a great little educational center with some neat wildlife! The women who worked there were enthusiastic and answered all of our questions. You could tell they were passionate about what they do. It was definitely impressed.

By Brooks G |

My wife and I visited the Marine Center for the first time and had a wonderful visit! We did the behind-the-scenes your and got to see the new baby loggerhead that the Center has. All the exhibits were great as well! We also did the 3pm turtle talk and it was a very informative and we learned a lot! I had purchased a membership prior to arrival so that we could get a free program ticket and save $ on programs and have unlimited visits. I would definitely recommend visiting!

By Spydermn |

We walked in not knowing what we were getting into but after seeing the other groups on he beach our son wanted to "do that".

Well, we could not have had more fun. My children had a blast sifting for small critters in the sand and then seining for larger critters in the surf. After we got a great tour of the aquarium. Alli was a wonderful guide and made it very special for our kids. This would have been a lot of fun even for a groups of adults!

By Cindy Long |

Visited in the new location. Most of the exhibits are not yet completed so our visit was average but will be a great place to visit and interact once it is completed.

By Stephanie J |

Me and my 2 year old son absolutely loved this place! He thought it was so cool! Very affordable, staff was very friendly.. overall great experience!

By Sheila7172017 |

The museum is small but so worth the money. They have assortment of fish and the turtles are soo cute. You also have option to go see turtle nests or marsh walk. Employees are very knowledgeable and nice. Loved it.

By Panman57 |

Our trip to the center was a great way to pass the time on a rainy day at the beach. The center is small, but the exhibits were good and the cost was reasonable. A trip to the center is also a great way to help support the important work being done to protect marine life in the area. If it's raining outside or you just need a break from the sun, I would recommend a trip to Tybee's Marine Science Center.

By Proppernurse |

We were greeted by a very nice lady on arrival. It was only $5 (which assists with their conservation efforts) to take the little self tour. The had tanks with red fish, puffer, turtles, various other little fish, and my favorite a baby lagerhead turtle. They also have a cool area set up with live sand dollars and starfish that people are allowed to touch. Great learning experience for kids and anyone not familiar with sea life. I heard one of the workers giving a tour and they gave a lot of good information about the center and the sea life there. We also were able to show an educator a picture of a shark I caught and she identified the shark and educated us on the species.

By Harbins2305 |

Our girlscout troop did lots of tours and attractions in Savannah, this one was our favorite. Our tour guide was the best, patient, knowledgeable and made it a great experience. The inside was a lot smaller than I thought but when we went out on the beach the girls loved learning about the beach and what lives in the ocean. Also we were lucky to see an empty shell on the beach. Our guide was great and we would definitely do it again!

By Chris G |

We got a family membership for our week in Tybee because we like to support environmental nonprofits. We broke even when you calculate in the admission and program discounts included. We can’t wait to visit them again in their new location!

By fyrlady98 |

This place is much smaller than I expected. It was interesting for us and our 5 kids. Matthew the big turtle was playing hide and seek with our youngest. While I thought the price was a bit high, if we had timed it for one of their talks, the cost would have been more in line.

By LaurieMT |

We enjoyed the turtle feeding and petting the turtle. Place is very small though and only took us 20 minutes to see the whole place.

By craig a |

with the warm weather we recently enjoyed, we brought some family members from "up north" to revisit savannah and tybee island. big mistake at tybee. sign on the door of the marine science ctr said 'open every day until 5 pm. it was closed at 3 pm when we arrived. the public restroom was filthy and disgusting. and for that we paid $2.00 an hour to park! my last trip ever to tybee island. too many nice beaches to waste time and money there again.

By Cassidy N |

My boyfriend and I traveled to Tybee for a long weekend trip. We decided to do the soft and seine tour. Our tour guide was Justin, he was very kind and a funny guy all around. He really made the experience enjoyable. I highly recommend doing the tour!

By cemelaugh |

My husband and I decided to take a short stroll through the marine museum. It cost $5 each to go inside. It wasn't anything special. It did have a variety of fish and turtles to view. Everyone was friendly.

By cwhite40014 |

We expected to see more and be able to hear about some of the creatures they had but we were totally ignored and just given short answers to our questions.

By Kristen C |

small marine science center but was informative and interesting to look at. enjoyed getting to see the sea turtles released.

By rwilson92387 |

Tybee Island Marine Science Center was a great way to spend some time while our little one was sleeping back at the condo. It was only $5 per person when we went and we got to see many different sea animals, including baby sea turtles! The kids loved it! They also have a touch tank! It is small, but packed with great things for the kids to see and totally worth the money!

By maksimchuk |

We stayed on Tybee Island in May 2018 and visited this museum with our 3 children 5 years old and younger. It is very small but we found it perfect for our children's attention span! I saw a horseshoe crab there and thought they were must smaller but they are pretty large! We loved the gift shop and our favorite part was the guided marsh trek! We had to drive to the marsh to meet our guide but. It was just my 5yo and I but we genuinely enjoyed it! We saw fiddler crabs doing their mating dance, spotted a blue crab, tried some wild sea pickles, learned about the beautiful plants and flowers in the maritime forest, and spotted beautiful birds! Who could ask for more for $10?! The knowledge was priceless and our guide was passionate about the wildlife! Highly recommend!

By Carmin W |

This was an awesome place to visit with our girl scout troop. We did the special program that included seining, marsh hike, and visit inside. Our guide (Sydney) was very knowledgeable and was great with the girls. I already told troops in my area that if they are planning to go to Savannah that this place was a MUST on their list.

By SherrieJ63 |

This was a fun, educational place to visit. Grandkids enjoyed getting to touch some of the sea creatures.

By Nicki E |

A great place to spend a couple of hours and learn more about the many critters who call Tybee Island home. I'd been seeing the discarded shells of horseshoe crabs on the beach and was amazed to get to see a live one moving around at the science center. Loved the touch tank and seeing the sea turtles. Staff were very informative and eager to answer questions. A nice exhibit on the Right Whale with a beautiful upstairs overlook with views to the ocean. Bonus - it's air conditioned!

By CIWtx |

The admission is only $5.00. I think that price is more than fair for what they do here. The place is very small, not a whole lot to see. But! The staff is very warm, enthusiastic, and didn't mind sharing information on the resident animals here. I didn't participate in any activities, but it seems they do offer some extra things, like classes or nature walks. Go, enjoy the cool air, and learn a little about the animals. Some people reviewed it isn't worth it, but it is. When I put the address of this place into my GPS, it took me to a paid parking lot for the beach. I walked a short distance to the Center, which is situated behind the main pavilion at the beach. You must pay for parking at a kiosk and put that paid parking ticket on the dash of your vehicle! When I came back from exploring the Center and beach, I noticed several people had parking citations in their windshield wipers!

By daeva1 |

Very interesting place, beautiful layout place, very nice and clean place, very good classes for to teach the children for the sea life......

By JLN73 |

Marine center offers programs throughout the day, but we missed most of them by the time we arrived. It was $5 per person to get in, but there isn't much to see...it's a very small building with many small aquariums where you can view various sea life. I think it's more geared toward the younger crowd, 2 to 6 years old. We enjoyed seeing the exhibits, but didn't really get our $5 per person worth out of it ($20 for our family of 4). We did do a beach walk, that was $10 per person (honestly, if we paid the $10 for the beach walk, I feel that the $5 per person to enter the marine center should be included in that cost...I get it though, they need the $ to keep the building open and programs functioning). We took our walk with Joy and she was a joy to listen to. You can tell she loves what she does and that she knows a lot about sea life. Highly recommend the beach walk. We learned a lot in an hour! The only disappointment is that it was over way too soon, we could have walked and talked for another hour!

By Gose |

Small area but they are building a new center and I hope it is bigger. Many different marine animals to see. They have some affordable gifts in the gift shop and it was only $5 each for admission 4 years and under free! One of my daughters dreams came true when she got to see a sea turtle here.

By Denise D |

Great place and employees provide helpful talks and demonstrations. Small but nice exhibits. We loved the sift & seine experience with Beth! Enjoyable few hours as break from the beach.

By Leanne |

Our family loved meeting Ike the sea turtle, all of the baby diamond back terrapins, and the touch tank. The staff member who taught about the starfish and snails was very engaging. We also enjoyed learning about the octopus and how smart she is and needs stimulation with toys in her tank.

By John L |

Nice little place, kids enjoyed it. Dig around in the touch pool and find hidden treasures then watch them bury themselves again.

By Stephen P |

My wife and I visited recently. The center is probably best for children, but we enjoyed looking at the various creatures that included fish, crabs, stingrays, and sea turtles. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. The fee is only $12 for adults and less for chidlren (I believe $10) and probably takes about 1 hour or less to visit. The center does a lot to aid marine life that includes educational programs and marine rescue. It was a pleasant addition to our vacation to Tybee and I recommend it as a brief, but fun, excursion.

By Yesmamjulie |

We had a great experience on the "Sift & Seine" tour with Ollie. Since my daughter and I were the only participants that afternoon, he tailored it to our interests and abilities. It became a time of sharing our knowledge and experience with him. Ollie is very passionate about coastal Georgia and its resources, and it is was great to hear that he is pursuing a masters degree that will enable him to help protect these important treasures.

By Rubymanor |

We’ll set out displays to view followed by excellent talk about turtles. The work they do is very important. Well worth a visit.

By Cat Lover |

My husband and I enjoyed our hour long beach walk on Tybee Island. We learned interesting facts about the beach, sea animals and salt marshes. Well worth the $10 price.

By gwhite |

We had a group of 11 people of various ages who all learned something on this walk. Our guide was well prepared and informative. I now look at the beach in a whole new way.

By Psm7768 |

Yes I read previous reviews but did not anticipate it could truly be as small as it is! Viewed each tank and read every display yet was done in 30 minutes. Staff is nice and friendly, the facility is clean. They do offer many tours and programs outside of the Center so that is why the review rating is high overall. Don't be fooled by the rendering of the modern facility on their website as it does not exist; perhaps in the future but not now.

By SamK. |

We stopped by and viewed the gallery. The kids enjoyed seeing the marine life. It's a good location next to the beach. I bought all our souvenirs there so that it would benefit the turtle projects.

By Lovetotravel0830 |

The Marine Science Center is rather small, but pack quite a bit into the small space. Stop in and learn about the sea turtle protection efforts!

By Travis C |

My wife and I walked by after walking on the pier. It was near closing time so we decided to come back the next day. We were very impressed by the staff. They were patient with kids, informative, and passionate about caring for marine life and reducing negative impacts people can have on the environment. We were very impressed! It is a small space, but they make as much as could be made out of it! I learned a lot about a variety of creatures, and learned new terms like "pelagic" and "benthic" that I had not known before.

By wilma w |

I'm a local, and have been intending to go to a Turtle Talk for a long time. Today I finally made good on my promise to myself. Very friendly staff, knowledgeable guide, interesting just walking through the exhibits. After I left, I went to Norh Beach and I saw two turtle nesting sites. The entire afternoon was great!

By Loves to Travel |

My son and I signed up for the Turtle Talk, Sift and Seine and the Marsh Trek. We also went through the aquarium and saw all the different kinds of marine life there. I really recommend the Sift and Seine, its entertaining, even for the little ones. It was my favorite part of the day, my son enjoyed the Marsh Trek (take mud boots). The prices were $10 a piece for us which is really cheap considering the fun you have!

By Jamie P |

The center itself is rather small, just a couple of rooms. But they offer several beach tours that are informative and we'll suited to both adults and children.

By SarahNose |

We did the $5 self guided tour. It is small. Aquariums are small. Touch tank is fun. Lasted ~20 min.

By Cynthia H |

Good examples of local wildlife and a few jellies. Not a large place but educational for kids. And a nice petting pool

By TravelingInChaos |

Went with 3 children all around age 10. We were going to the beach also so we would have paid for parking anyway so that didn’t bother us. In fact it worked perfectly for us as next to the Marine Institute is the bathroom so we were able to change into swim suits after we went through the animals. It is a small area of tanks, but my kids loved the touch tank (even though they do them at every aquarium we go to) and they also loved the different animals they had. Baby alligators, baby sea turtles, and the older sea turtle, Mathew who was just as interested in us and kept posing for pictures. They liked the info at the behind the scenes too. I have been to many animal zoos, aquariums, marine life universities, and farms and I was very happy with the cleanliness of this place too. The animal habitats were all in great shape and recently cleaned. We would defiantly do it again. Plus on the island 2 sodas costs you $7 so $5 a person seemed just right.

By Live_Love_Beach |

We visited Tybee Island with our Girl Scout Troop. We booked a program for the girls and they had so much fun. The guide was great that worked with them. They learned about the different sea creatures in the island.

By C B |

I had an great experience visiting the rescued residents at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. Many of the marine animals here are cared for temporarily until they’re ready to be released back into their natural habitats. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their work. The exhibits are well-organized and educational, making the visit enjoyable for all ages. The loft viewing deck is an added bonus, offering a great perspective of the surroundings — and Ossie the sea turtle loves greeting visitors! I highly recommend supporting this amazing center and the important conservation work they do when you visit Tybee Island.

By smosauce |

This place had fantastic potential, very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere! The only issue that I had was the cost. We did a marine life excursion, which had the admission to the location as part of the excursion. The marine life excursion had a lot of potential and our guide was fantastic, but if I would’ve just paid for the cost of admission, the price did not equate to what we saw in the marine center.

By bpadgett2016 |

This was very nice love to see all types of fish , My granddaughter love it . they have everything easy to see and touch some things and somethings you don't need to touch but they make sure you and your kids are safe .

By Runtiffyrun |

My two year old loved visiting the Marine Center. There are several fish tanks with active and colorful fish, turtles and other creatures which he loved. The center is quite small, but that's actually perfect for young children because they can roam freely but not get too far from mom and dad.

By SkiingPeach2015 |

Had a wonderful time at the center. Very informational and engaging staff. Answered all of my very curious kiddos questions. Sign up for one of the extra activities. We had an amazing time and the kids learned so much! Make sure you add this to your stop!

By Taylor B |

The Tybee Island Marine Science Center, located at 1509 Strand Avenue on Tybee Island, Georgia, offers year-round programs for island visitors, scouts and school groups on the bench, in the marsh, on the water, in the classroom and the Coastal Gallery in its mission to shape a responsible stewardship of Coastal Georgia's natural resources through marine science-based education, conservation and research. Marine education on Tybee Island began in 1987 with beach walks. A year later, the Tybee Island Marine Science Center opened its doors. Be sure to visit the Coastal Georgia Gallery, which overflows with information and exhibits on the flora, fauna and habitats indigenous to the Georgia coast. Live creatures include baby alligators, polka-dot batfish, spider crabs, puffers, flounders, clown fish, diamondback terrapins, corn snake, horseshoe crabs and sea jellies. Meet Ike, the museum's loggerhead sea turtle. Take a guided beach walk, north or south, and learn about the dynamics of the barrier islands of Georgia, the importance of the intertidal zone, the forces behind tides and waves and sand dune formation.

By Happy42day |

Visited the center to introduce my sister to Loggerhead turtle program. I have toured before but was able to stay for behind the scenes and get great detail of how the center helps rehabilitate marine life. Justin was our guide and he did a fabulous job with all age groups. He was very knowledgeable and informative. Great experience!!

By Luciferous626 |

The staff here is very friendly and informative and we enjoyed our visit here. It's very small but for $5 it's worth a quick stop.

By Liz T |

Brought our Girl Scout troop from Missouri here. Wanted to do a marsh walk but a tropical storm changed that. Still able to do sand seining, which the girls loved. Our guide, Cully, was great with the girls!

By DesignerMomm |

What a fantastic program!! We did the seining in the ocean with 8 girls. It was such a great experience for the girls! They caught tons of fish. The beach walk was great learning for all. Location for us was great! The inside part was super small but lots to see and learn. Highly recommend for young kids to do the tour it was great! And of course they have a patch and badge !

By Furjennings |

I booked a seining activity for my Girl Scout Troop thur the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. The girls loved the seining. Next we took a walk on the beach looking for living things. Our tour guide was Sydney and she was great at her job. She kept the girls interested and she answered question after question from our girls. GS troops earned a Georgia Conservation patch (after they do a take action). This was great fun and the girls loved it!

By CanuckAlberta |

Just walking around area and decided to check out the Marine Science Center. Found lots of enthusiastic employees and lots of up close enclosures to meet some of their critters. They even have a touch tank where you can handle some of their guests. Is a perfect place for kids but appeals to all ages, worth a stop.

By pixietails |

Cute. Small. Cheap. Reminded me of an aquarium I went to in Hakido, Japan. Best thing I saw: A tiny crab living inside a huge, beautiful jellyfish.

By carlaburton |

First ,it was small, however for the price and the ability to talk with the staff one on one it was worth the time to stop in. I am a teacher of elementary age kids and I have two of my own, so it was great to get to ask as many questions as you want and they are willing to take time to visit with you.

By trtzw |

This Marine Science Center is tiny and easy too miss. It's tucked into a small building across from the pier. Although, once inside, you'll be surprised. The staff was friendly and very eager to inform you about the displays and the local sea life. Kids will enjoy seeing turtles, crabs, even small snakes up close. Admission is only $5! A metered, public parking lot is within easy walking distance of the entrance. Our family group had a great time! After visiting the center, be sure to take a walk out on the pier!

By Joshua H |

This place is very tiny but quaint. Our two year old enjoyed it however for us big adults it's nothing worth seeing. Got crowded very fast. However like I said our daughter enjoyed it and it lasted for about 20 mins for us to get out of the rain. There is a little gift shop. Don't get me wrong the purpose is definitely great however to do it as a must see is not what you are looking for.

By Sarah M |

The MSC is small. The top floor offers a beautiful view of beaches. We loved watching “Ike” the resident loggerhead and all the other marine life. The science center is small but are in the process creating a lower level. The touch pool is very limited. The play area looked nice for younger children but it was too hot (99F) for us to try out. We spent about 30 minutes in the MSC.

By GAIL D |

Make the most of your visit here and schedule one of their programs ahead of time. Most are meant for older children (6+), but my nearly 4 year old was captivated by the sea turtle program because of the instructor's animated and engaging talk. I can't wait to see what they can do in their new and larger space next year. Admission is inexpensive ($5) and free for children under 4. The sea turtle alone is worth the admission! It was great to see conservation in action. (I wasn't sure what to expect and was relieved when it wasn't just another for-profit tourist attraction.)

By Kadeah |

It’s located literally right next to the beach !!We took the Turtle Talk Class. We learn more about Turtles than we ever knew, it was very informative and makes you care a lot more about how we maintain our beaches. Our instructor was great and we were able to see her feed Matthew the Turtle (A Rescue)!! They also have a nice gift shop:)
P.S. Get there early for good parking!!

By Doris D |

My husband and I enjoyed the very informative walk. We were encouraged to ask questions, and our guide was very knowledgeable. I had toured the facility when I signed up the day before and witnessed the feeding of the turtle. There were groups of kids enjoying the place as well. While it is rather small, a visit to the Science Center is only $5 and the beach walk was only $10 each, which goes back to maintenance of the facility and research. Well worth it!

By Catherine T |

Small but sweet. Well worth the visit. We don’t like having to pay to park but on an island there are limited spaces so we understand the reason for it. This is geared more for younger kids but mom & dad will enjoy learning about local marine life. Our teen was bored because she’s been to the “Big City Aquariums.” We want to respect all work conducted in conservation and education so we visit all the local places like this and we always put money in the donation boxes. Pay it forward! A little bit goes a long way! The animals are taken care of and the focus is on education not commercialism.

By JerseyGirl54 |

We opted to pay for the optional beach walk. Our guide Sydney was amazing. She taught us many interesting things ranging from sand composition, the dunes, and the names of some uncommon birds we saw. The facility itself was small, but they are re-locating next year to a larger facility. Inside, we saw a sea turtle, a ray, an alligator, and many other creatures. There were video screens to enhance the exhibits, and a touch tank. This was a fun way to enjoy our stay at Tybee. The staff was enthusiastic and friendly. Can this be compared to an aquarium in a major city? Probably not, but it was a fun experience anyway.

By Nichole S |

We visited the Science Center and listened to Rowan talk to us about the endangered sea turtles. We learned so much and then got to meet a recently rescued baby turtle. A great time for younger kids or older adults who are always on the road to learn.

By Connie K |

This was one of the favorite activities that our girl scout troop completed during our visit. The staff was fabulous and showed us all how to locate animals in the sand. The girls loved the seining activity too.

By Joyce S |

Husband, myself and granddaughters 8,11,13 attended the Turtle Talk. It captivated the children and us grown ups too. We enjoyed it very much, our guide was extremely knowledgeable, the kids still talk about her, she made such a good impression on them. Made them very aware of being responsible for their impact on the environment, they have continued to look at the impact they make outside of just turtles and beaches. Couldn't have spent the time or money in any better way. Thank you. Recommended for everyone. You wont be bored you will absorb their love for what they do, just open your heart to it

I coordinated a group of almost 50 students to attend the Tybee Marine Center, during a trip to Savannah/Tybee Island. The rising 9th grade group (mix of 2 schools) were very engaged, focused and absolutely loved the experience.

The accommodating, patient and knowledgeable staff were excellent (we were late due to a bus issue and the inclement weather put a damper on our original experience plans). The change in the classes did not hinder the experience. The students enjoyed the sand sifting and squid dissection.

It was a great, well-coordinated experience. Definitely one of the highlights of our end of the year overnight trip!

By cneumann98 |

We visited the marine science center on our recent trip to Savannah, Georgia, on a tour of Girl Scout sites. Our time they're included a tour of the tanks inside, a beach walk, and a chance to try our hands at seining. Our guide was Emma, and she was fantastic. She was able to answer every question we throughout her as well as give us wonderful explanations of everything we found along the shore. I would highly recommend this program and visiting this place if you are on Tybee Island!

By Sus |

Their mission is to cultivate responsible stewardship of coastal Georgia's natural resources through education, conservation, and research. We paid $10 for a one-hour “Turtle Talk” led by the assistant curator of this little gem. While the center is small, they have broken ground on a new, larger facility. Can’t wait to visit when it opens! The Turtle Talk was very interesting and informative. Included in the $10 for the talk was admission to see the assorted sea life in tanks. The main attraction and highlight of the visit was seeing and watching the feeding of Admiral, the rescued loggerhead sea turtle. We will visit again and try a walk or a trek!

By Tallmadge6 |

What a wonderful marine science center featuring the local marine life. Located right next to the beach, the staff could not have been any nicer. You can come in and out with your $5 fee all day long.

Be sure to come in for a feeding or a behind the scenes tour (schedule posted daily just inside entrance). The behind the scenes tour provided an additional glimpse into what they do for the animals/marine life. Staff was very informative, especially to children. There is a touch tank where you can feel horseshoe crabs, spider crabs, sand dollars, hermit crabs, sand fleas, and other creatures in shells. This is a rotating exhibit and not all may be in there, it's whatever they have on hand.

Since they get many right from the beach, posted on the door "Shoes required, shirts desired". They will move to a new building summer 2019.

By CarolinaBroncoLady |

This center has many interesting exhibits, including fish and other animals. My family enjoyed it very much.

By AmandaCarrie |

This is a small museum but worth the price. You can touch things and read about local wildlife. This would be great for children (but my older kids enjoyed it too). Staff were very friendly.

By mtngal2 |

This is a small place, but the exhibits are so well done with plenty of information about the animals inside. There's a small gift shop, too. We enjoyed our stop here.

By Mark B |

This is a must stop on a visit to the area whether you are a senior or a youngster. Our 2 grandkids really enjoyed the live exhibits, hands on activity and the excellent presenters. It sure gives you a better understanding of the marine ecosystem and its importance.

By Sah H |

The fossil room is very interesting, as it outlines some of the history and past biology of the coast. Seeing the turtles was amazing, and the collection of marine organisms was fun. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable.

By griffins at the beach |

We were here spur of the minute and brought our 4 and 6 yr old grands. The gift shop is as big as the whole museum. A few neat things to see but very small. The best part is the hands on pool. I would recommend the tour, otherwise I don't think it's worth the price.

By mbwestman |

This was a great bargain at $5pp, and the petting tank discussion was just fabulous. What a way to learn, hands on, about the sea life. We also went back for the Turtle Talk lecture, another $5pp, followed by a feeding demo of their resident baby loggerhead, Admiral (Addie for short)...they didn't yet know if he/she was a boy or girl.

So, this was a very small attraction, but you got a lot of bang for the buck! They also had several other activities such as guided beach walks. Wish we had time for more.

By Meghan N |

Very small but a neat place to visit for a break from the beach. We did not do any talks/walks. Various ocean life and hands on exhibit for kids.

By Monique U |

We visited here on our Girl Scout Trip. We did the badge workshop for the Coastal Georgia Badge. It was a fabulous experience. Our guide was Brittany and she was wonderful and very informative. She worked very well with my Cadette girls and tailored the session to them being older girls. While the marine science center is small, it packed full of information and animals that are native to the area. The girls loved the interactive aspects of the workshop. It is a great experience and badge workshop for the Girl Scouts.

By Maggie C |

We did a program with a guide (with Girl Scouts) that was wonderful. The center itself is a bit small but the exhibits were interesting and the staff was very knowledgable.

By Sandra G |

We participated in a program which involved seining. My Girl Scout troop loved every minute of it! It was educational and intriguing, and my girls were engaged and excited. They had to use teamwork, so it's a good program for team building, too.

The staff we encountered was professional and knowledgeable, as well as polite. I strongly encourage other troops to visit. It's right on the beach, so I would encourage tourists to visit, too.

By LeAnn O |

Very small selection of animals. Took our 2.5 year old and for kids, more geared to above 5 years of age. Playground has no shade for kids. Not worth $15 per adult.

By keith b |

Before strolling through the shops on Tybrisa, take the kids through the Marine Science center. It's a great way to show them all kinds of cool salt water creatures, a few reptiles. It's very informative and educational. They have tours, and guides. A neat little gift shop. Definitely worth it.

By Dr.Travel |

The Tybee Island Marine Science Center is a must see when visiting Tybee. We participated in the Beach Ecology Tour, learning more about the conversation efforts at Tybee and in the state of Georgia. The staff and volunteers were very helpful and knowledgable.

By CAQ24 |

So, last year, my son and I went to the Marine Science Center on Tybee Island, just on a rainy day, with the few shark teeth we had found that week. As we paid for tickets, my 6 yr old asked if someone would be able to help him identify the type of sharks his 'teeth' came from. The staff was fabulous-he got to go behind the scenes, even see a fossilized wooly mammoth tooth. So, this summer, when we went back, needless to say, it was high on the now 7 old's list. I tried to gauge his expectations this time, but he walked in with his 17 shark teeth this year, and the staff helped him identify every single one. They took their time, showed him around again, and educated him on a number of environmental issues. It's not at all a big place-it won't take too long to tour, but hands down the best staff we've ever 'visited' in a museum/aquarium/nature center. Thank you so much!

By weatherfordfamily |

I took my Girl Scout troop to the Science Center. Alli did an amazing job teaching the girls about our environment, the ocean, critters, tides, ecosystems and more. She was extremely knowledgable and engaging! She asked many questions and gave the girls factual information about our ocean. I really appreciated how she also taught them how they can help protect our environment, ocean, at home. It is important that young children realize they can make a difference in our world. It was very evident that Alli has a genuine love for critters and knows how to take care of them. Yes, the museum is small, but well worth the $5!

By danipbt |

We had a great visit here. This Marine Science Center is small but very nice. Excellent staff. We did a pre-scheduled Girl Scout Program for the Coastal Georgia badge. Kelly was awesome. My high school-aged girls thought she was pretty cool.

By Jessica Q |

We were excited to go here. Once we got there, it was much smaller than we expected. The exhibits were still interesting. It didn't take much time to tour this.

By Dee J |

This is a great children's science center to show off the natural wonders of the local low country. It's a small museum with a reasonable cost ($5), with kids under 3 free. My grandkids love the salt water table filled with sand and small marine creatures that they can watch or gently touch. Staff is on hand to answer questions. Up front there is a terrific gift shop; we like to browse after looking at the exhibits. You will see some of the same items in other local souvenir shops, but I found out later they were cheaper to buy while you're at the museum (Ex: mermaid dolls)

By rdbhoyt |

Sent my 6 yr old to camp for a week and she loved it!! Well organized, friendly staff and tons of activities including beach time. Highly recommend.

By alkamara |

The Tybee Marine Science Center is about as obscure as one can get. it is housed in a small building at the land side entrance to the Tybee Pier, but not on the pier.It shares a building with the life guard station and the local "comfort station". It may be small but it is packed with lots of marine interest, plus there are seasonal "beach adventures" that are conducted just about every day.
My 8 year old granddaughter was visiting from out of town a a few weeks ago ans signed up for a half day "age specific" adventure, and loved every minute. Her experience started with some indoor "class work" and finished with a walk on the beach to discover what was "happening" that day. She saw sea turtle nests; with her class mates the seined the shallows of the ocean to gather up what ever was cruising the water; and sea bird watching. Along with this exciting and adventuresome activities, she also made some new friends from near and far who were visiting Tybee on that specific day.
Don't miss this one, especially if there are youngsters in your party!!!

By RMBM0525 |

Staff was great. Small place and we arrived just after they opened. Got to see them feed IKE as well as had time for behind the scenes tour.

By Angela M |

We loved this place! I was unsure at first because of the price ($10/person) and it's small but we spent a lot of time here and really loved it. Great for kids (we have teens), especially if they like turtles. The baby sea turtle is the best! Ask questions! You will have a much better experience that way. The staff is very knowledgeable and love to share. There's a hands on tank as well.

By Rochester Traveler |

Reasonable pricing, friendly staff, a lot of science in a small space! Our young kids had a blast. They also do "behind the scenes" tours.

By Brittany M |

I loved seeing the turtles and learning more about marine life! From the girls at the front desk, to the woman who was giving facts regarding whales and artifacts in the first room, to seeing the live animals who will be moved back to their natural habitat soon, this place is a must see!! I was moved to tears when Sydney explained the process of turtles laying eggs and the hatching babies trying to make it out of the nest to the sea. My visit to the marine center made me realize I can play a part in helping marine life thrive! Family friendly and a lovely peaceful experience, I highly recommend.

By Elizabeth |

Tiny, not worth the money. You go into one room with a few turtles, maybe 3 fish breeds and a couple of baby alligators. Two telescopes that are broken and a gift shop. Building looks big outside only to find the whole bottom area is maintenance with fake fish. Go to Fort Pulaski you will def I see more exciting animals on the trails. There were actually horse shoe crabs, a snake, birds , crabs and other animals to explore. I was so excited and so were my kids. We all left completely disappointed and felt like we had been ripped off. You can be out in 30 minutes even if you take your time.

By PrettynPink1976 |

The cost was well worth the visit, (I think $5.00/person) it's right off the beach, easy to get to walking to or from your car. This place isn't a tourist trap, it's a science center. It's there for educational purposes and rehabilitation -they are there to help marine life, not put it on display for humans. They rehab animals to release back into the waters, but they do have some that aren't fit for to survive on their own, so they have a home where they are taken care of. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. It's not huge, so don't expect a typical aquarium experience.

By Jamie C |

The center had a very friendly staff. The exhibits was interesting and the kids loved them. It is very small, with only 4 small rooms. The price is a bit much for what it includes.

By mcarey22 |

i enjoyed this, the people were very knowledgeable and helpful in every way, they should get a raise

By Elizabeth |

I love this place! It's not a big aquarium or a huge zoo, but it is a small little science center that is dedicated to educating folks about the wildlife--particularly the marine life--that surrounds Tybee Island. I go at least once a month just to watch the turtles and fish swim. Each time I've gone the folks working there have been so kind and eager to answer any questions I may have had.

The programs they offer are fantastic. The sift and seine is my favorite, and while we only ever caught a cannonball jelly and some empty shells, it was still a fun experience and one I would gladly do again! The folks who work at this place are clearly passionate about the wildlife and Tybee Island, and that passion and enthusiasm makes for an enjoyable experience overall.

The marine science center may be small, but it is a wonderful place to explore some wildlife and see what calls Tybee Island home other then humans. The staff is passionate and enthusiastic which makes this a fantastic place to return to time after time!

By Tawtay |

At only five dollars admission, why not? The place has a cute gift shop, a very friendly staff, great educational information, and lots of different animals. It doesn’t take long to check it out but it’s well-worth the visit!
Be sure to pay attention to the exhibit about the effect of garbage on marine life. YUCK!
Loved it, but can’t get over the sale of single-use bottled water at the gift shop!!!

By Kyfamilytravelers |

We went to the Science and Marine center and was greeted by a very nice gentleman at the front desk. The price was reasonable, $5 per person. We spent about 40 minutes here and my kids, ages 9 and 13, enjoyed it....I also learned a little myself.

By Susan K |

With a small fee, you can see some rescued sea turtles and terrapins close up and hear their stories. Just steps from a beautiful beach and pier, it’s worth a short stop year round.

By Beth B |

Its a small center but the kids really enjoyed it. It was very educational and the staff was wonderful.

By Jennifer B |

Although small, this Center makes a huge impact and deserves all the support it can get. Enjoy a few minutes to check it out, tour the Center and talk to the staff, while viewing several of the beautiful, rescued marine lives.

By Melanie S |

Has some cool jellies, fish and turtles. Lots of info. Really enjoyed the visit. Definitely a must see for all ages

By bmhall81 |

We participated in the nest excavation with the science center and had the time of our lives!!!! (Only staff are allowed to touch eggs or turtles) The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They let us live ok at the babies up close and watch them be released. This is something we have been wanting to check off our bucket list!!!! We can’t wait to visit next year!!!

By CindyMcN |

My daughter and I visited the Marine Science Center in May. The Center is not very big but it is so much fun and so educational. We looked at and read everything inside, had a behind the scenes tour (even saw a local fisherman bring in a fish to the center to study), and went on a beach walk. My family loves to go to the beach and on the 1 hour beach walk we learned so much about the dunes, the plant and animal life, and the tides that we never knew before and will take with us on our next beach trip. The fee is so reasonable and don't forget the gift shop - so many nice and cute items and all money goes for a great cause. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely return our next trip to Tybee.

By agreen82 |

We visited with our troop and family and did the sift and seine tour. The girls found a lot of interesting things in the water but nothing that would cause them to not go in the water again!

By Dbornak |

Smaller than we hoped but reflective of the admission price. A lot of young biologists working hard to conserve the turtles which is noble. Educating visitors or the tourists looking for something to do. The story could be told a little better and skip the odd fossil room. Restrooms outside in a trailer, which is better than a portapotty; gift shop small but with cute items. Difficult to find parking and we circled twice before finding a spot. Nice thing is that you can access the North Beach here, which is gorgeous.

By theparthlesstraveled |

This place is right across from the Tybee Island Pier. Small but super-enjoyable. There is an entry fee but its worth it. Make sure to ask as many questions as possible and they will be answered! The staff there is highly knowledgeable and welcoming.

By Karen F |

I don't like seeing beings in cages. That being said the impact this group has on conservation warms the heart.

By ann p |

The entry of $10 each was a little high for the content inside. There were a few sea turtles that were in rehab, and several dedicated volunteers who provided great information about them. Basically, your entry fee is in support of their efforts. We only stayed about 15 minutes.

By Daphne B |

It’s a small science center, but super cool. Especially for anyone who loves sea turtles, like my 8 yr old. He got to attend the Turtle Talk, where he learned all about Georgia’s different sea turtles. Then he got to watch them feed some snacks to the resident sea turtle Ossie, and was even able to pet the box turtle Zelda. This was the highlight of our vacation for him! This center is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re already visiting the Tybee Lighthouse as it’s right next door. There’s also access to the beach just behind the science center and a couple of great little places to eat next to the parking lot. So you could totally make an entire day of visiting just this one location.

By ExploringontheRoad |

This center is rather pricy for the size; however, it has lots of interactive tanks, a fossil room, and a beautiful view. The sea turtles and the information provided about the programs for them on Tybee Island is interesting.

By c5mjb |

Walk the beach, seine in the ocean, learn about sea turtles, or trek through the marsh. One-hour programs on the beach or in the marsh. Marine science educator-guided Walks, Talks & Treks, for an authentic coastal Georgia experience. Year-round programs for island visitors, scouts, and school groups on the beach, in the marsh, on the water, in the classroom, and the Coastal Gallery. The Tybee Island Marine Science Center’s mission is to shape a responsible stewardship of Coastal Georgia’s natural resources through marine science-based education, conservation, and research. The Center is small, but very educational. It's right on the beach, next to a wonderful pavilion and pier.

By MominOC |

Small place that took about 45mins at the most to cover. Entry fee was $12 which was reasonable. Great for younger children. Pay for parking lot right in front. Sea turtle nesting sign was interesting. We couldn't spot the loggerhead sea turtle and a worker kindly walked down to help us spot it.

By Heather F |

My son was dying to see a sea turtle so, we brought him here knowing they had a rescue here. The center is small but, packed full of information. This is not an aquarium; the goal is to rehabilitate and release back into the wild. The staff memners were fantastic and answered all of my son's 101 questions so I think he learned a ton of information on sea life and that alone was worth the 5.00 admission fee. Of course, the sea turtle, was the amazing star of the show for us but, the touch tank was my daughter's favorite and I just loved all the baby terrapin.

By Shelliu |

Educational, interactive and a park to let out some energy. We loved our trio to the museum. We got to see a lot of local nature life from a horseshoe crab to stingrays, fish, jellyfish, turtles both baby and adults and more. They also have fossils to see some of the marine life skeletons. The kids got to pick up hermit crabs in ocean shells and hold a starfish. They also have a child rescue sea turtle and an awesome kids park. It’s a great pls e to relax - they also have a reading area upstairs and a telescope to look at Hilton Head’s South Island. Perfect place to beat the heat or go on a rainy day. Parking is metered beach parking.

By Jane G |

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to show us everything. They explained the who, what, when, whete, why and how's and made sure we understood it. They showed a huge plastic ball filled with all the cigarette BUTTS from the beach. If a turtle eats one they die a slow miserable death. This weekend we sifted sand and threw away a huge amount of cigarette BUTTS. Please if you smoke. Put them out the collect them in a cup and throw them in the landfill black barrel and the plastic cup in the blue barrel. You would really be doing the turtles a huge favor.

By Teilynn I |

Girl Scout Troop had a great time doing the beach walk tour. Our leader was well organized and kept them engaged.

By tcatherine |

Very informative and has a touch pool. It is very small and not many exhibits. It doesn’t keep children very occupied. The research and dedication to protecting and rehabilitating the titles is impressive.

By weezieonce |

This place isn't bad, but it's tiny. 4 small rooms with a few exhibits and tanks. Not terrible, but even for about $20 for 2 adults, 2 kids, I would have hoped we could have spent more than 5 minutes.

By Janna64 |

Yes, it is small as other's mention but it is only $5 and you can go back as many times as you like on that same day. My daughter and granddaughter both enjoyed it and we spend about and hour there. It would be a nice rainy day activity or just a great way to get out of the sun for a bit. We learned a lot about local sea creatures and our 6 year old LOVED the touch tank and learning about the things she got to touch and hold. I realled liked the sea turtle and the terrapins.

By Jhonna M |

We did a hands on class with a group of 10 girls ages 11 to 14. They all enjoyed it and we are planning on doing another class the next time we come. The science center itself is very small but it was very educational and the girls enjoyed the hands on tank.

By Hannah R |

Our family loved the Marine Center! While it is very small, it has a lot to offer, especially if you have children. They rehabilitate all of their animals or keep the ones that are permanently disabled. They offer a look into marine life and have plenty of fish, small alligators, and a sea turtle. They also offer a free behind the scenes tour and you can watch them feed the sea turtle while they give a speech on sea turtles! One of our favorite places so far! You do have to pay for parking and parking is at Tybee Beach.

By Libby |

Justin led our Marsh Trek. Driving directions were very helpful and specific and Justin was already waiting in the small parking area when we arrived. He led us on a lovely little trail through some maritime forest discussing plant and animal species before we get into the mud. Wear appropriate shoes, and know that your shoes will get muddy, it's part of the fun! We got to catch fiddler crabs, observe snails, discuss different flora in the marsh (even getting to eat some sea pickle/salt wort), catch shrimp in a net, and play in the mud. It was a great, interactive and educational way to spend an hour on Tybee and such a bargain at $10!!!

By Dennis J |

What a rip-off even at $5.00. There were a few aquariums with various sea life in them. There was a “behind the scenes” tour. We paid for the tour and was waiting for it to start, but it was not announced. When we asked they were like oh you just missed it even though they knew we were waiting. Don’t waste time or money going there.

By CJ J |

We were here and able to catch a feeding time experience. The Center itself is small but it is cheap. The room for the feedings was very crowded as there was a school of children visiting but it was very interesting and on the behind the scenes tour we were able to get a lot of information on the rescue portion of the center. On the whole we enjoyed it bu remember it is small

By 96dixieb |

This was a very nice place to visit and the staff are guided tour was amazing she was so fun and very informative on the creatures out in the beach Girl Scout troop really enjoyed this

By Elizabeth S |

We visited with our Girl Scout troop and we had a blast. Our guide Hannah was very kind and patient. Great experience!

Great program for the Kids! Water seining was fun. The beach is so pretty. We learned a lot at the indoor exhibit, too. Would recommend for all ages.

By Paul N |

We went there recently to learn more about marsh wildlife. They have small but informative display with very friendly staff. Good for children.

By Melissa French |

The Marine center is so cool. There are live animals that you can watch. They also have so much interesting information about the animals themselves. I recommend walking through their exhibit.

By Melissa C |

We really enjoyed our beach walk and learned a lot as we crossed the dunes and walked along the beach!

By klaponzina |

We visited the Marine Center in January and there was a lot to see! This center takes in ocean life to observe and rescue too. The guide taught us a lot about what is found on Tybee and even took us out on the beach and showed us how to spot buried shrimp!

By LAsnowboarder |

The presentation on turtles was fascinating. A staff member from the science center talked about sea turtle species, their habitat, their food, their prey, impact of man upon turtles, etc. There are a lot of artifacts that the staff member passes around to accentuate what she's describing. After that, we got a tour of their back-room where there were tanks with different kinds of wildlife in them. We then saw a turtle feeding, which was in the form of a live fiddler crab. I could have done without seeing the turtle consume a helpless fiddler crab, but the tanks/exhibits were well done for such a small location and the staff members were great (we wound up talking with the curator of the science center for about 20 minutes and she was a wealth of really cool knowledge.

Very educational and fun for both kids and adults!

By Babydoll030308 |

We went with another group of friends who also homeschool for the turtle talk session they do. The kids ranged from toddler up through prek and lower elementary. The fellow who presented was great. My two guys who are 4 and 5 are still talking about the items they got to touch and see. He kept everything well within their level of understanding and answered all the questions they had including those after about other creatures at the center. Even trying to convince him they needed a shark too lol. He never once dismissed their questions and stayed around until they had asked every single question they came up with. We will absolutely be back for talks and sessions they do. We have been before for just general visit and always enjoyed the center especially the touch pool!

By tabbyashworth |

We paid to get in and the marine life they had to see were interesting but there wasn't much to see for the price paid.

By stephrvtravels |

We always try to add some educational outings on our family vacations. This place is small, but great! The staff spent lots of time with our seven year old, answered all his questions. The behind the scenes tour is really informative. You see how they can quarantine animals, how they filter the water and how they feed the animals. All the animals are only kept there a short time and released back to the sea if they are physically able. If you love turtles, they have lots, including babies.

By James S |

Center was small but cool and friendly. The Marsh Trek was with their Biologist and she was great! I would have large rubber boots and something to clean them with since the mud is sticky &a Stinky! The teaching was Excellent and was a Fun Experience. I do recommend it!

By HorseRider49 |

The marine science center is definitely worth a visit if you want to see some of the marine life up close and in detail. The staff working there are very friendly and knowledgeable and are happy to answer questions. There was a touch tank where you can handle various critters such as small crabs, snails, a baby horseshoe crab and sand dollar. Their young sea turtle was quite a charmer and was adorable. The science center offers various tours but due to our limited time we did not partake in any, but we likely will on our next visit! Admission for the aquarium is only $5 per person, the money goes to upkeep, food for the critters, and further research and conservation measures. It's a $5 very well spent.

By mimidiner |

Very nice little marine science center right on the beach. Learned a lot about the turtle nesting and their life. Good place to take the kids on a rainy day.

By Jordan M |

I just wish they would expand it. It was cramped, there were a lot of people, and I don't believe it was worth the $10 we paid.

By retiredfromfl |

Walked from our condo nice little place to spend some time. Enjoyed the exhibits. Haven't been here in awhile. Hit with the kids.

Admission was only $5 per person, but I didn't pay attention to whether that was normal or a reduced fee because we went not long before they were closing. The center is very, very small - you would walk the indoor perimeter in about 1 min and can see everything there is to see in 15 minutes or less, including reading all of the descriptions and signs surrounding the tanks. There are lots of tanks with baby turtles, which are adorable. I could have watched them crawl around all day. The science center is especially dedicated to preserving the turtle nesting grounds that are abundant around tybee and preserving endangered marine life, which is a great cause and made the admission fee more than worth it.

Nice place to visit with nice oceanic displays with turtles and and interesting touch tank. I was a nice place to spend time and I appreciate all the conservation work they do

This was a highlight for our 2 and 5yr old while we were visiting! We spent about an hour here and was definitely worth a stop! The boys loved the touch tank where they got to hold hermit crabs and starfish! They also had a great playground to help them burn off some energy. Their animals seemed very well cared for and the staff were very educational and patient with the little ones. My favorite was Charlie, the Eastern Box Turtle, who had the funniest little personality! I also thought the cannonball jellyfish with its little spider crab friends were super cool.

I was initially concerned, as the tanks were very plain and the animals didn't seem to have very good habitats. But then we did the behind the scenes tour and learned that most of the denizens were temporary visitors, being rescued and displayed for a while before going loose again. We were lucky enough to be there while they had a baby sea turtle rescue. There was also a fun little touch tank... and behind the scenes we got to see the "vacation" tank where the touch tank critters got to go for a break.

On a hot day we were looking for something to do with the family and chose this place. Overall it was fun but definitely not with the $60 admission (plus $12 parking). Either make more exhibits or cut the admission fee in half, we walked through in under 45 minutes.

The Marine Science Center, is rather small, with very friendly people. There is a gift shop, and several aquariums filled with fish, turtles, etc. There is also a small aquarium where you could touch the animals that were in the water and under the sand. This would be a good place for school age children to learn about the creatures of the sea.

This was such a highlight in our Savannah trip. We got to see lots of aquatic animals like fish, sea turtles, jelly fish, starfish, and other types of turtles, too. There's even a space to look through a telescope and see out far into the ocean. We went during Whale Week and learned so many cool facts about whales. It's also very affordable, only $12/adult.

The staff is SO NICE. We would've missed the sea turtle feeding if it weren't for one of the staff members coming upstairs and notifying everyone. She answered everyone's questions with ease and a smile.

I wish I would've gotten his name, but there was an older gentlemen who sat in the corner of the fossil room who was SO enlightening. My boyfriend and I hung off of every word he said and he was so passionate about marine life. His voice was very soothing and we could've stayed there all day talking to him.

10000/10 recommend this place!

I recently took a trip to Tybee Island, GA. And visited the Marine Science Center. Although this visit was solo the many before in 30 years were with my children. This little museum features many little sea and beach creatures all for touching. You can explore just the inside of the museum or take the guided beach tours. There is not a better way to answer the what, why, where questions for young and old alike!

Great family fun! There were many marine biologists to answer all our questions & we were able to touch & hold several different animals from both ocean & land.

It's right by the Tybee Pier and run by people who care for the ocean life. Very friendly staff at the entrance. Price ($5) is quite reasonable. Small but very interesting. Good gift shop too.

Our Girl Scout Troop did the Coastal Georgia Badge Program they offer. We had 7 girls ranging in ages from 10-17. Lots on replicas/representations of sharks, crabs, sea turtles, so many live animals with touch pool (sea stars, crabs), and watched feeding of octopus-a new experience for all of us. Three hours of guided fun with seining in the ocean as well as gorgeous views and all kids questions were answered! Brandin in an educator and it shows! She was motivating, kept the activities moving, and was positive and enjoyable to be around. We had other things planned (lunch) but would have loved to stay and look around the gallery again!

This little science center packs a lot of displays and information into a relatively small place. We thought it was worth the visit. It is located across from the pier, so it is easy to find.

Only took about 10 minutes to see the whole thing. Mostly a few aquariums with pictures and details. Considered it a donation to the ecology and environment. Cost about 5.00 Close to the pier so was just something extra to do.

I took my girl scouts troop. We did a 30 minute tour of the gallery, be began hour long beach walk and a 30 minute sand sifting program. Our tour guide, Grace-Ezra was phenomenal. She was patient w our group, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed this small seaside museum with exhibits on sea life and an active turtle rescue and sanctuary. The tour guides provided a slide presentation and hands-on demonstrations. There is a walking trail outside the building that leads to the water. If you want to relax, there are a few rocking chairs indoors that look out over the water. There's a kids playground. My only complaint is that there is only Porta potties and not a real bathroom.

Very informative and interesting. I wish more people cared about the natural attactions on Tybee. We all should stop littering the planet, and think about the fish, turtles and people that depend on clean water.

Nice little center for the kids and those that like aquariums. Right off the Tybee island pier, it's a cheap and quick stop while checking out the island.

To get in it cost $5.00 but you also have to pay for parking. Not knowing how small it was, we paid for 2 hours of parking. We only needed about 30 minutes tops. Parking is $2.00 per hour and is required anywhere on the island.

Love this experience! I highly recommend taking the time to visit. The staff was extremely educated and were fantastic with our kiddos! We found a horseshoe crab on the beach and dissected a squid in the marine center. I can't wait to go back!

Went by on a cloudy day with my 83 year old motherinlaw and wife and the folks could not have been more fun and helpful---listened in on some teaching of children and learned some good stuff...the small young sea turtle in the water with the fish was especially mesmerizing.

Perfect rainy day activity. Staff was so friendly and informative. Exhibits were informative and interesting. Appropriate for all ages and just $10 per person.

Very small but cute Science Center. You learn a lot about the local marine life. Staff is friendly and helpful!

We were a group of 9 elderly ladies from a local women’s club. It was a fun day outing and everyone was so impressed with the facility and our tour guide Lindsay was amazing, she has incredible knowledge.

It was a great break from the beach. My almost 2 year old loved it and it was interesting for the adults too. We didn't participate in any of the tours or outings, but your admission gets you in all day where you can come and go as you please. It is small and took about 45 minutes to look at everything with a toddler. They recommended we come and go as we please and we probably could have took a second stop in later in the day too and she would have loved it just as much. Toddler was free and adults were $5 each.
