Christmas decorations going up everywhere, and I'm sure it'll be over the top when they're finished. I visited the excellent exhibit on the history of the building and the fascinating Maya exhibit (note there is a coat rack but no lockers). I ate a classic reuben at Harveys and looked at the chinaware display. Took the skywalks for a little exploring.

I took a chance and hoped the station would be totally accessible. However covid-19 restrictions are still in place. You cannot access the second or third floors. All the shops are closed except for the Post Office and the Amtrak office portion. Still a beautiful property that I enjoyed looking at on the first level. FYI the Skywalk is closed from the station to the Westin Hotel.

Found this very interesting & informative. 2nd largest station I think in the U.S. Saw where trains/subways pick up/depart, & businesses in station. Science exhibit for kids/family. Great architecture of building and it's furnishings that were evident in that time in history. Preciously had only seen a train station & way it used to be/furnishings in old westerns/movies on t.v. Now see first hand. City has hundreds of fountains around town & one across from main entrance. City bus tour picks up here to see area attractions. Tickets available inside station at center info. desk.

Since the citizens of Jackson County, MO did such a great job of saving and renewing this great historic train station, it was disappointing to again visit it and notice the lack of amenities for visitors/tourists.
The interior is magnificent, restored to its early 20th century beauty, the vast rooms are a wonder to see; they require more than a casual stroll to appreciate.
Not one bench, chair, stool, or cardboard box to sit on to enjoy the station and the architecture, what a waste.
While we were sloooooowly walking around, there was a wedding party staging photographs; those not in a picture were either leaning up against a wall, squatted down or sitting on the floor while the children were bored and running around being kids.
A wasted opportunity for visitors etc. to hang around and maybe spend a bit of cash.
AND, we were there at about a bit after 4PM, all the snack locations and casual eateries all closed at 5PM; the only open restaurant was the fine dining room.
Another missed opportunity to keep visitors in the station....
A Beautiful Building, mostly empty...there are many activities for the kids (Science City, A Model train exhibit, closes at 5PM also) a local theater group (City Theater)on a lower level and a Movie theater in a wing of the station.
Parking his easy, a multilevel garage built next to the station with a walkway; also Crown Center is connected to the main hall via a raised walkway.
The station should be busy all the time with the ease of access, great parking and a fantastic building...with more things to do and maybe a chair or 2 sitting around, waiting to be occupied, more people will enjoy this great example of American
exceptionalism!

Went here before having dinner. If you like a cool little place to walk around then this place is perfect. There are some small little shops. A lot of history about the building itself, and how it went from a major passenger rail hub. To a dilapidated building. To a cultural center in the city. When I was there they had an Auschwitz exhibit set up. A lot of neat stuff to look at.

Something to do for everyone here. Check to see what special exhibit they have. Take the kids for the science. Go have a beer in the wonderful bar...or get on the train

This is a magnificent building and it is a well deserved national landmark. Road work prevented parking close enough to view the interior.

I wanted to see Union Station, but it was a bonus to have the '100 Years of Disney' exhibit there as well. It's an absolutely beautiful building and worth the visit even without the exhibit.

By Foamergirl |

This is a beautiful historic building. I came in and left on the Southwest Chief. Breakfast at Harvey’s with people watching was so fun! The Kansas City and Science gift shops there were enjoyable too. Lots to see in the station.

By Trish C |

Chance visit to the Dinosaur exhibit. Lots of fun! Wish I had more time to explore more of what Union Station has to offer. Next time maybe the planetarium!

By Jean C |

We’ve been to many different exhibits at Union Station over the yrs. LEGO land, the Body, science City for our kids and we’ve taken many Fun Amtrak train adventures.

By Nancy H |

Great for kids and families and train buffs. Beautifully decorated for the holidays, lots to see on a rainy day.

We went to Union Station to purchase souvenirs. We had no idea it was a renovated historical building.

We were able to find souvenirs and more. We toured the building, had coffee, and checked out the wonderful electric train displays.

Union Station is a great place to visit and to take children.

By Jose M G |

Quite a bit to do here. We rode the street car and also used the tunnel that connects the hotels. Very fun place besides catching a train ride.

By Nora T |

There are wonderful pictorials of the construction of Union Station. The model railroad display is worth the walk. The freight train bridge is awesome. Got some good videos to upload for YouTube. Check them out RailfanKTrain and RytheTrainGuy.

Saw article in Missouri Life about the Christmas Lights Exhibit at the Station. There was no mention of $15 parking fee. No mention of $10 per person entry fee. The place was a packed mad house. Sorry, won't be returning to that expensive crazy place for Christmas.

Came in on the train. What a beautiful old building. Architecture is stunning. Love that it is kept as it once was.

By 🌎The Pookies World Travelers 🌎 |

My husband and I visited today, and even though it is stately and beautiful, there’s something sad about it to see it so empty. It needs to be filled with life and laughter! Covid19 has made it go quiet for now.

By Loren N |

While in town for a conference we all went to a restaurant within Union Station. Would love to have more time to wonder around on a future visit. Was easy access in foul weather via a covered walkway from our hotel.

By FellowTraveler730578 |

The building is beautiful inside and out and is still an active train station (Amtrak). Unfortunately many exhibits and shops were closed and the Grsnd Concourse was reserved for a private party. Union Station deserves a walk through and a few photographs!

By Joeanne M |

A beautifully majestic restored station. Worth a visit. I sat and had a coffee and wiled away the time people watching.
The reminders of old station days are dotted around and worth a look.

By V M |

Union Station is very impressive and well refurbished old station building in KC bringing the glory days of US rail network back to our mind. It has some nice looking restaurants and from the maindoor it has a great view to WW1 Monument up in the hill.

By lisaschroeder64 |

Great way to celebrate a birthday party . My 5 year old granddaughter had her party at science city in union station. Was a little hard to find the actual room that the party was In, but once there it was a nice space and afterwards great fun doing science-y things!

By Jacque |

Found Stonehenge exhibit at Union Station raised questions. Great venue. Parking garage was convenient.

By MWTop |

This happens on the first Friday of every month and is typically an hour long. A perfect way to spend good time with your family. They seem to change the theme every Friday and we caught the Stranger Things show! My 11 year old was hooked!

By Itinerant_Foodies |

We had a great time here reading about the history of the station. There were many pictures and other displays of the history and momentous which added substance to the visit. The model train displays are astounding with their detail and size. A great tourist destination for first timers to KC, even if they aren’t train enthusiasts.

By Rita A |

My husband and I went to see the Mayan Exhibit. It was absolutely amazing to see all the artifacts from that Mexican civilization and the history! I took many pictures and we were very impressed!

By dennis1027 |

Wow - what a great place to see. I was very impressed with how clean and beautiful the building was. Don't forget to check out the bridge on the north side of the station.

By Carrie Reneau Spivey |

The heights, the decor, the everything. Def worth a visit while in town. Wear walking shows & enjoy. It's gorgeous & huge!

By DGlenW |

We visited on June 14, 2023. Union Station and the Crown Center area are such cool places to hang out. You can spend a few hours exploring the history of Union Station. I especially enjoyed the model train displays even though they are a little tricky to find. If you have a couple extra hours to spare, it is worth the stop.

By Jana E |

Had a wonderful time exploring the Stonehenge Exhibit. Highly recommend going to see it if you are in the area and have a couple of hours to spare.

By Lauri M |

Union Station is absolutely beautiful. We went here today to see the Maya Exhibit. The exhibit was excellent, it was laid out very well and had a lot of artifacts on on display.

By Rebel500 |

Must pay for parking in order to walk inside & look up a the ceiling & then leave after 10 minutes.......

Due to COVID, everything is closed. Cannot even go outside & look at the AMTRAK Tain arriving.

BUT the new electric street car does stop right there & you can ride it for free! So we went to the City Market area & had lunch.

By Drew K |

We went to Union Station to see the Union Pacific's recently restored to operating condition Big Boy Locomotive. The plse is bustling with lots of stuff to do, some of it free! Pierpont's restaurant has a lively bar scene and an enormous selection of spirits. The modernist addition has theaters, an escape room, aroom for traveling exhibits as well as a hands on science museum. The model and toy train exhibit is simply amazing!

By Molly W |

We spent a whole day as a family. We had ages from 9 to 46 and we all felt it was a great time. We had to pry the kids away to have lunch. Very clean and educational but fun too. Alot to do. Plan on a whole day with all the levels inside and out. Well worth the money!

By Greg Nickels |

Lots of shops, food, an interactive science museum for kids, a movie theater, and it all connects to an enclosed walkway that lets you walk above the busy streets to other areas and buildings in the area!

By Michael J |

Beautiful building and lots of history. Many different things to do here, and it is just across from the WW( museum complex. Also close to Crown Center.

By Burbankbaby |

I travel through Los Angeles Union Station at least once a week to commute to my job. It has security guards in golf carts everywhere. There are questionable bathrooms, homeless residents, no themed gift shops, no nearby theatres, no community groups utilizing the visibly empty spaces, and a complete lack of electrical outlets - notable primary because the local Metrolink and Metrorail systems sell tickets online, and if you are out of cellphone power, you’re out of luck. When I asked, it was explained to me that the outlets were removed as one less attraction for loiterers. Oh. And parking costs a small fortune.
LA’s Union Station is a far, far cry from Kansas City’s awesome, delightful, busy, vibrant, complex.
Kansas City’s Union Station is truly a home town wonder - alive with shops, movie theatres (now playing the last Star Wars installment, and since tickets are $5 a piece, I treated my in-laws, natch), museums, great restaurants - and over the Holidays, a wondrous (and totally free) area with row after row of model train exhibits. You can find it down a breathtakingly gorgeous main hall, behind the holiday displays and the kiddie train ride. In short, this Station is awesome.

By skipsaundra |

What a great event space for the exhibit. It takes you on a journey from his birth to his death. An amazing feat to conquer so much territory and the innovator of so much in his lifetime. Don't miss the live entertainment performed on original type instruments.

By TheRealJTForReal |

Certainly more than meets the eye. We walked in not knowing what to expect as we had never been to a train/railroad station like this. From a restaurant to a coffee shop, movie theater, museum and model train display, we explored for an hour and a half or so. The architecture was amazing. Certainly a fun stop for the railroad enthusiast out there.

By Karen W |

This union station is not as large as the one in St. Louis but very interesting. They have a model train display that is free and a must see for any kids or train enthusiast. There are other kids activities as well as escape room.

On December 27th my Son and his Family and my Wife and I Road the AmTrack to Kansas City Union Station and stayed at the Weston Hotel. I can not say enough Good about this whole trip from the Conductors on the train to the people in the hotel, everything was just wonderful! The Christmas lights in Union Station were Beautiful and all the people were extremely nice. I had to change my ticket on the train to a handicapped spot and

Built in 1910 and opened in 1914, Union Station opened with large demand (its peak at 271 trains in one day during WWI). However, like most rail traffic in the 1960s - 1980s, it declined sharply with many businesses closing and the building, itself, starting to decay. It wasn’t until 1996 that motions were passed to be able to restore the structure while also bringing it back to life with a different concept. Today, it includes shops, restaurants, theaters, exhibits (train history included), and Science City, an interactive science center.

OUR TAKE: If it's raining, it's a great way to spend a couple of hours. The building, itself, is magnificent. Otherwise, it's overrun with a lot of families.

By Jim Mourgos |

I moved to KC about four or so years ago and am constantly amazed at the wonder that is Union Station. As you enter by the streetcar side, you have 100 year old photos of when the place was built. The foyer is huge, with a terracotta ceiling and big chandeliers. The AmTrak is across the way and what used to be a waiting area is now an entertainment center. The restaurants are pricey and there is a US Post Office as well. Downstairs was a voting area, not sure if they will do that for this year's election. Great place to people watch. Today they are celebrating Walt Disney's 100th birthday, since he started his animation business in the area. Recommended.

Do not recommend going if under the age of 18. It’s very very boring and definitely not for kids. Don’t recommend

Amazing experience at the Christmas light display. Lots of people but it flowed through very well with timed entry. The entire station was decorated.

By Leandro S |

Once one of the busiest train stations, union station is a museum, shopping and restaurants rolled up together. Good place to visit if in KC.

By JC |

Love Union Station. We are season members. Our grandkids love to visit. If there is anything negative I'd have to say please provide more food vendors. The overpriced coffee shop is not really conducive to visiting with young children.

By MKSSA |

Union Station is really lovely, and at Christmas time, it's breathtaking! We enjoyed the free train exhibit and eating at the cafe and attending a ballet at Center Stage. Only wished we'd had time for their historical exhibit, too.

By Casey B |

Beautiful building. Reasonable parking garage. Went during Christmas time therefore was decorated excellent. Purchased tickets to walk thru the holiday exhibit which was neat. The train displays are very detailed and neat.

By DYfromKC |

Where to start? It's a beautifully restored building from the early 1900s. It is a wonderful place to walk and enjoy, very family friendly. There are 2 restaurants, a café and a coffee/snack shop--The Harvey, Pierpont's Fine Dining, and The Parisi Cafe. You can find major exhibits--right now it's Stonehenge--and an extreme theatre. I saw Toy Story 4 yesterday. City Stage provides live theatre throughout the year. There is an escape room venue as well as Science City (geared toward youngsters), & a planetarium. In back of the Grand Hall is a permanent display of trains of all kinds, set in scenic backgrounds. Not just a few. Throughout the year various activities such as the Maker's Fair take place. Good parking is available on site: $5 up to 2 hours; $10 for the day. The Station is connected to Crown Center by a link and you can walk there without going outside. Outside is a beautiful fountain in front of the Station--one of many in our City of Fountains--and you can take a streetcar downtown or to the City Market, free of charge. Various tours of the city meet at Union Station. Plenty of help is provided for the asking by friendly volunteers at the Information Center.

By Evelyn |

Science City is such a fun place for kids of all ages! I took my 12 year old daughter, but I saw many families in there with babies up to teens all smiling and enjoying their time. It's fun for parents too. Lots to do here, worth the money!

By Kristina N |

I brought a St. Joseph Museum group of adults on a motorcoach trip to visit the facility and to tour the Stonehenge exhibit in June. The new outdoor art installation is fascinating! The temporary exhibits Union Station hosts are always top notch and those who travel with us always love the shops, restaurants, and the architecture of the building. This is a must see if you are bringing a tour group to Kansas City!

By Chantel |

We went to the Holiday Reflections walk thru village search for Christmas activities. This really was a activity to do as a family and worked out well for a video on our YouTube channel. While not only getting to see all the holiday displays we also were able to learn some of the history. Depending on the crowd I would give the Holiday Reflections area about 30 minutes. While that is why we went, it was mainly places to take pictures. Our favorite parts were the large display and the model trains.
We spend more time exploring the rest of Union Station learning about the postal deliveries and looking at the upcoming exhibits.

We will definitely have to go back to explore more of what Union Station has to offer!

By Steven V |

25 dollars an adult ticket. 3 hours long. Close proximity less than 6 ft. Masks required. No purses or carry bags. Sparse seating lots of standing. Headphones and audio tour provided but lots of reading too. Very repetitive the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC much better.

By John B |

Any visit to K.C. should include dropping in old Union Station (it is a short walk from the WWI museum). The main hall is stunning with a huge, soaring ceiling and there are many displays detailing the history of the station and city. There are also some interesting shops and the Harvey Restaurant (best seats are up top!).

By AVGTXN |

Saturday afternoon. Just a huge place filled with a couple of museums and restaurants. Great architecture. There's also paid parking out front.

By Shamr0ckG |

Very wise people in Kansas City decided to restore this gem. It’s a spectacular venue with lots to do and see. Restaurants, train exhibits, theatres, a Disney exhibition, historical displays. You can easily spend the better part of a day exploring. Put Union Station on your 'must see' list. Lunch at Pierpont's was icing on the cake!

By ChristyLynne3 |

We hadn't planned it as a visit, but cut through to get from WWI museum to Jack Stacks. Ended up getting distracted and bought items in gift shop and viewed train exhibits. Science museum looked fun if you have younger kids.

By Johnny M |

Went today to see the Auztwich display. Very good place to teach this new generation about what happened in 1933- 1945 in Poland . It was sold out when we got there . We order our tickets about a month ago. They are very friendly and so is everybody around us. They let everyone go at there on pace which is great . Its says to allow 2 to 3 hours we took 5 hours but we walk a little slower than most. I'm glad of everything that was there and glad we didn't have to go to Washington D C or Poland . I say it you can make it between know December PLEASE DO . I wish this would be taught at middle school and high school level. The only grip I had was I wish they would let people take water to drink though it but I understand why because of the value of the things in there. I wish and pray that people learn from this and forgives what happened this moment in time . Thank You UNION STATION for bringing this to people out west and south for the AMERICAN PEOPLE TO SEE!

By tkr |

We had brunch at Harvey's in Union Station. The food was good but not excellent however, the atmosphere made up for it. Be sure to get a table upstairs on the railing especially at Christmas time!

By williame975 |

It's wonderful that the city has saved Union Station. It now houses science center, a planetarium, and other attractions as well as some restaurants. We have visited a number of special exhibits there and they all have been great. The latest was a wonderful exhibition on Genghis Kahn and the Mogul Empire. Always worth a visit.

By Caryl G |

Everything about union station was amazing. Lots to do and see. I loved the historical info along the way in. Streetcar made travel to and from the hotel, super fun.

By Bankerwon |

We walked around before and after our visit to Science City. It is a beautiful addition to Kansas City. We had lunch in the restaurant in the Grand Lobby. It was fun to sit on the second floor and view all the activity on the main floor. We also rode the elevator to the 4th floor where the museum is located. It shows pictures of the past and also the restoration project. Well worth the time to visit. Parking is adjacent and normally there’s plenty of space. However, there is contract parking for the Post Office on first floor. Union Station is magnificent! KC - thank you restoring it.

By Sarah C |

The building is absolutely beautiful, and it was fun learning about the history behind the station. There are really great exhibits in the station, and so much to learn.

By El G |

There are so many ways to experience Union Station. We chose to spend the money and visit the Stonehenge exhibit and were not disappointed. Although they had a few children's' video's throughout, it is mostly geared for adults. If you love learning about history and archaeology, you'll love this exhibit. On the much less expensive side, we wandered through the station and wondered what it must have been like in its hay day. Of course, our trip wasn't complete without stopping for some ice cream and chocolate.

By Patricia W |

It's been there since early 1900's and since it's renovation, it's back to her old self with some modern amenities. At Christmas it's beautiful inside. It still stands with grandure.

By Scott B |

Union Station Kansas City is undoubtedly an interesting place to go, however be careful of Titan Security who doesn't understand they're not the police. During our time there I watched them get involved with people in ways that are totally unacceptable. They were constantly chasing after people who weren't bothering anyone so that they could them they needed to leave for whatever reason and they're not only rude to them, but they're rude to everyone else. Also, please note, they may look like the police, but they're not and they don't have any authority to treat you the way the police can treat you. They're security guards who can only be a presence.

By Slippert2 |

Went to the Aushwitz Exhibit. It is supposed to take 2 1/2 hours to complete. The city has a mask mandate so everyone was wearing masks BUT they let in probably 100’s of people in a very small space with no where to go that was not crowded with people. I took it as long as I could but I had to race out of there. I tried as long as I could to separate myself from the crowds and listen to the audio box but it just became harder and harder to have room. I felt like I was at a concert it was so crowded. Missouri has a low level of vaccine takers and their hospitals are all overrun with covid. I feel this was very irresponsible to crowd people in here. So very disappointed with Union Station. I have always been a fan but this was too insensitive for the current times.

By Tony B |

We held a special event here for a group I was working with. while it is a bit pricey, the facility speaks for itself. Beautiful setting, easy to work with staff, and easy transportation. Worth it!

By Renee Phillips |

This is a great place to visit when Kansas City. It is a cool building to walk through. Also went there around Christmas and the Christmas exhibit that is by the train department is cool to see and is free. A good place to take kids to.

By Jake S |

Love this place and its tenants. So much to do and always learn something from this place each time I visit. Could increase the quality of staff that helps with parking but very happy to see they have allowed to accept credit cards.

By ewrgmom |

Went to the Stonehenge exhibit at Union Station. Was so excited because the exhibits there are usually great. Stonehenge was horrible. I could have learned more by reading Wikipedia. It repeated the same information over and over. A good portion of the kids information stations were broken so they didn’t get to enjoy them anyway. Then to top things off they had this very fictional story that was telling how this one woman tried to rebuild Stonehenge by getting tribes to help. The. You would thing they would have a life sized portion of the stones put up somewhere so you could really see their size but nope they didn’t have that. It was a bunch of broken Antler pieces and chipped rocks. It was very disappointing especially when comparing it to the pompay or Da Vinci exhibits they have had there before.

By Krosener314 |

such a magical area. we really enjoyed the sights and sounds here around this time of year. We will absolutely recommend this

By Jo-Ann |

A must visit train station. Situated within walking distance to the World War 1 Museum and the fabulous Crown Center. The Union Station has great architecture and is beautifully maintained inside. It has cafes and restaurants, a Science museum and on going exhibits.

By Robin B |

This is a beautiful train station that, I think, rivals Grand Central in New York. We went after hours so most shops were closed and part of the station (where you would wait for trains) was closed off for a private event. Still, just to look is free and if you are nearby, worth a visit. If you are visiting the WWI museum, you can leave your car parked there and walk down the hill. It’s a short walk, but definitely downhill and includes stairs. It took us about ten minutes to walk and would be pleasant on a nice day.

By Phildvoid |

Nice that this is still an active, in use, station. Many activities for children and family oriented. Model train exhibit was good but closed to early.

By John F |

Central location provides parking as well as access to the free street car. The Trolley Tour leaves from here and it also houses the Museum of Illusions as well as a movie theater and planetarium. Take time to tour the Model Train Exhibit by the Amtrak Entrance. There's a suggested donation and really worth the 30 minutes to walk through.

By RJBandRDB |

It was a great experience to visit the station. I imagine the restaurant would be really nice, but it was closed. However the fountains were playing and we had the additional entertainment of a wedding party among the architecture. Super place to visit and be socially distant from others too.

By carrapicho710 |

Union Station in Kansas City was an unexpected delight to visit! Gorgeous architecture and such history. Parking was easy, bathrooms were very clean, and the elevators were in great working condition. The shops and restaurants were fun to explore. They also had a fun model train area that my teen and pre-teen really enjoyed. Make sure you cross the bridge over the tracks, too, to get a great feel for the size of the station. Very cool.

By Romanw871 |

I would highly recommend visiting this place, as it is a big part of the Kansas City history. Very nice architecture. Please make also sure that you see the permanent model train exhibit.

By Girlmurmuration |

If you love beautiful architecture make the stop. And make sure you look up! There is a restaurant inside, a post office, a KC sports shop, and a science center. Not anything I was interested in doing. My view may also be slanted by stopping in when they were setting up for the NFL Draft and there was scaffolding everywhere.

By skipsaundra |

We went through this exhibit and enjoyed the way it was presented to us. Since they could not bring the real thing to us they showed how it was assembled and where the materials came from. There were a rocks, shards and other small items on display. All in all it was very interesting without having the real thing.

By Allison H |

What a grand building. Beautiful and nostalgic. My dad always loved taking the train to KC and going to Union Station. It conjures up images of the days when this was the main means of transportation.

By jamesag2016 |

Union station was all decorated for Christmas and really pretty. Kids enjoyed the miniature train exhibits. Would recommend you visit

By MomofAPN |

We only had a few hours in Kansas City and stopped here and nearby Crown Center. What a beautiful station! Wish there would be more train traffic, mainly an entertainment space.

By Debbie Y |

Lots of walking, very difficult to park, very crowded. Not just a one day trip. It’s nice to come there at Christmas time. We loved seeing the Christmas train display

By Steveh3Texas |

We took the trolley to the end of the line at Union Station. A nicely restored train station, but unless going to the Children’s Museum, probably not worth a special trip.

By fjparol |

We had been around Union Station before but this is the first time we actually went inside. It is worth the trip. Visualize what you think a typical “Union Station” would look like and this is it. The ceilings are beautiful as are the chandeliers and other decorations. The huge, draping American flag just prior to July 4th was a nice touch as well. I highly recommend stopping by here, both inside and out!

By michaeldQ7636OK |

Went to see the Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive: found Union Station to be a fantastic place to visit with lots of good food and entertainment. Also, the station itself is a wonder to visit and absorb the history of it's building. Also, the surrounding area has lots of other things to do, plan on visiting again soon.

By DrDray |

This was the last of the large passenger stations built 1912 just before WWI. It has been converted into a useful and educational hub with Science City, an IMAX, restaurants and the best-kept secret, a great little museum to railroads, the Harvey chain and Civil Rights. The Civil Rights component really shows how black porters were involved in pushing employment rights and fighting racism. I often take out of town visitors here for a bite to eat and a taste of KC history.

By Teakwo23 |

What an amazing and historic building. There’s a bar and restaurants inside. The science center is also in there. The architecture is beautiful.

By Barbara M. |

Disappointed. Brought my 4 grandchildren; we have often come to see the free model train exhibit; if there was an event in the large hall, people could still access the model train exhibit by going thru the outdoor walkway - but today, after walking thru the cold, the door to get in was locked 😳! Closed to general public unless you pay extra fees for the Christmas event. With 75% less income since covid, the parking fee had also increased from the usual $5. to $10. Made me think of “no room at the inn” for baby Jesus. But thankfully He had a barn to go to, and we went for a snack across the street.

By Natural1der |

As a piece of architecture, this place is amazing and fully restored. It is also HUGE. So much to do and a lot of walking thus plan accordingly. Exhibits vary. We went during the makers faire which was neat. Go check this place out. There is no cost to peak in... :)

By Jim T |

Union Station has been repurposed to hold many different destinations within, including the Planetarium, a movie, a stage, shopping, restaurants, model train exhibits and even some office buildings. There are displays illustrating the Station's history and many things to see and do. The model train display is huge and quite something to see--worth seeking out. There is also a kid's playground right outside, and plenty of parking in the garage across the street.

By KCLizard |

They don't build structures like this anymore, and it is especially magnificent at Christmas as they decorate it very nicely. They have a permanent display of model trains that is cool to see, and they had a Santa section for the holiday. They have an IMax, several restaurants, and a couple of museums. We were there for the Genghis Khan exhibit, and it was very nicely done. We have been to Inner Mongolia, and this collection was really nice. Much of it was from a private collection so not easily seen elsewhere. The Union Station is also very close to the Liberty Memorial, WWI museum and Crown Center, which are all places to see while in KC.

By Melissa F |

A crowded disaster. The lights experience we paid over $10 each for was actually a series of selfie stations with lines over 20 minutes long at each and the sleigh ride line ($6 extra each) was over 30 minutes. The cafe was out of hot chocolate and sent us to Rocky Mountain Chocolate which closed at 5:30 on a holiday weekend and wouldn’t let us in at 5:25. The trolley ride to see the lights was broken and we ended up on a mini bus instead. Just an expensive failure of a trip to KC for family time.

By Gran7 |

As a child we rode the train from Arkansas to Nebraska several times a year to visit family ever always changed trains at union Station. We were there last week and I had a walk down memory lane walking through this wonderfully preserved building. How fun to see the Harvey House there are new additions to the property but it has retained its charm! Bravo.

By Alison C |

Such a beautiful place! The building is beautiful and a great example of the architecture of the past. There are multiple exhibits inside. The model train museum is fun for both kids and adults!

By Debi S |

The parking cost $15! We had hoped to eat a sandwich but one restaurant closed at 3 and the other way over priced. Only redeeming factors was the beautiful structure and the impressive train display.

By Lisa S |

Our KC day trip starts at Union Station. Parking is always close in the garage. We always start with a chai latte at LaParisi, then head out to the streetcar. Make sure you check out the mini train museum and any other exhibits in the station. This station holds a lot of generational memories for my family and I. We love to visit❤️

By skipsaundra |

This is one of the exhibits we didn't want to attend but thought we should learn more about it. The lights were dimmed throughout the exhibit so it was good to have the hand held mobile device with audio and pictures. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to go through, and more if you want to read everything and watch all of the videos.

They had resting spots but not enough. Overall it was interesting and I am glad we went.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the Union Station is a ghost station. Hardly any of the exhibits: The Grand Plaza Model Train Gallery, Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre, Science City, and The Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium were open during our visit. Understanding that rules and regulations are in place due to Covid-19 we were able to do our scheduled time at the Museum of Illusions. With that being said, the security personnel treated us rudely. We wanted to take pictures of the architecture but was told we could not. I asked why and was told no pictures. Again, I simply asked why. Security replied no pictures can be taken. She proceeded to tell me that pictures with a camera are not allowed, but said I could take pictures with a cell phone. Confused I asked for the security department and paid them a visit. You are able to take personal photos but no professional paid shoots, which I was not doing. I returned to the security officer to inform her, but then was told no loitering due to covid-19. Being the ONLY one there I just gave up and left, after snapping a quick picture. The station is stunning and a great place to take pictures if only Covid-19 did not exist.
I am only rating this location a poor due to the way we were treated for just taking a few photos.

By Charla |

The building is beautiful and is worth checking out. We didn't go to any of the paid attractions, but it was worth going in the building to admire the history and beauty of the station.

By Happy Traveler |

Unique experience with good places to eat in an active train station. They have a movie theatre, science experience, many things to see and do there.

By actroyal721 |

What an awesome place! We came here for the Auschwitz exhibit, and the exhibit and the facility was both great! If you are in the Kansas City area, come to this place. You will not be disappointed! I will try to visit every-time I come to this amazing city.

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I popped in here while we were in Kansas City for a conference. The ceiling is stunning. Our timing could not have been better--the day before the Super Bowl. The train station was festooned with Chiefs flags and gold streamers. Fans in Chiefs gear had numerous choices of photo opps with cardboard cut-outs, balloons, etc. We had drinks at Pierpont's inside Union Station. The drinks were great, and the Art Deco restaurant is beautiful.

By dogleap |

Second largest station in the USA with an info desk with a very helpful attendant, post office, shops and a history display. Well worth a visit

By parasols2 |

There was a wedding reception that was going to take place later in the evening im the main hall- I was able to get a pic, even though it was roped off. Very beautiful- they did a great job restoring it. There are restaurants and a shop or two inside. It is walking distance to the WWI museum - we didn't go inside that, but outside, up the hill and steps gives you the iconic cityscape view of Kansas City.

By Chris J |

Beautifully restored. well worth a visit. great paintings on the walls, high ceilings and restored to it's former splendor.

By craig h |

Great views and fun part of the city. Easy to park and easy access to downtown. Tunnels to Westin are fun and worth the walk of you’re staying there. The bar with the ladder to the top shelf booze is old school and really fun.

By Mandy Brown |

You have to pay to park, but that seems to be the norm in K.C.. We were very pleased with the history and options available inside Union Station. Seeing the people board for trains and the trains on the track was only a small portion of it. The Science Museum looked really cool, although we didn't go through it. We visited their gift shop and that was really neat with several items to purchase. There are a few places to eat and a candy shop with great treats! You could easily spend 3+ hours in this building.

By C C |

Union station has exhibits ( Maya collection this month), science city, traveling art shows, restaurants and shops. Worth going to at Christmas

By johannasheehy |

Just like Grand Central Station, the preservation of this wonderful old facility is trop notch. Had dinner at Pierpont's, some of the best steaks we ever had. A must see. Easy parking but $10 for time we were having dinner. There is no admission charge.

By AdventureMN95 |

If you have kids it’s a great place to bring them with the science museum attached, I just did a quick walk though of union station and it is very nice with a few restaurants inside. Very pretty and worth a quick stop in, if you don’t have kids

By Jimbear |

KC's Union Station is a must visit to take in its special place in U.S. history and beautifully and respectfully restored 100 plus year old architectural treasure. KC thanks for saving her and bringing her back to life. There is a lot to explore, learn about, see and taste here. I think the last time we toured it was 15 years ago and she is oh so improved and alive since then. We'll be back.

By Brandon |

There seemed to be a lot to do here. We stopped by after most of the shops were closed. They had a Disney exhibit opening, that's seemed very interesting.

By RDH |

If you are going to the WW1 museum it is worth stopping here, as the building is gorgeous. Also, if you are hungry, there are 2-3 restaurants at Union Station and there is only a tiny cafe at the museum with very little choices.

By namickey |

I think KC has some great architecture so I was excited to go in and see Union Station. Well done in places and while I enjoyed going into the Grand Hall I didn't expect it to look like a football vendor show. Yes yes I am happy KC is in Super Bowl but instead of being able to enjoy the grand hall beauty I saw only hundreds dressed in Chiefs garb and waiting to take selfies at different KC Chief set ups. I get it y'all are proud of the team and you should be but I wanted to revel in the architecture. We also wanted to find how to get to the observation bridge over the tracks. Signage in Union Station was extremely lacking, but moreso NO ONE at the information desk. It took us 10 minutes to stumble upon someone cleaning an empty space to ask for directions. Would I go back? yes, but only if I know I can get decent pictures. Don't hate on me KC I am rooting for the Chiefs, but wanted better Union Station pics. Next venture maybe I can rate better

By TravelLawyer123 |

An absolutely beautiful building! There are restaurants inside the station. Come for brunch or a coffee. Stay for the exhibits. We enjoyed the Mayan exhibit immensely. Definitely worth a visit

By MyBucketListTrips |

I can see how this would be interesting for families with young kids, but there is nothing of interest for adults. It’s not even worth stopping even if you’re nearby.

By vweek |

I was very impressed with the results of the restoration of Union Station. It was absolutely beautiful and greatly reminded me of my New York roots of Grand Central Station. A definite must see during a holiday season visit.

By Grandpa Dan |

Union station is always an entertaining way to spend part of your day. You have many options centered around it. There’s the light rail, Hallmark, and the ice-skating rink to name just a few of several options.

By Kevin B |

So happy that his magnificent structure was saved. Beautiful inside and out! Lots to do inside. Enjoyed a coffee and pastry at the cafe' located inside.

By Lynne D |

I was in awe of this beautiful old train staion. The architecture was amazing! Easy parking. We had already eaten so didn’t try the restaurant inside. Visited the working model train exhibit. Talked with a very knowledgeable volunteer about Union Station. Will definitely visit again.

By Robert B |

We drove to KC for the Maya display and really enjoyed the presentation. It was very informative and had a ton of really cool pieces. I really liked the larger tablets that showed life in the Mayan times. I would suggest a few hours for the display and to really take the time to read and learn about the life of the Mayans. Union Station is always a cool location and it is fun to just walk around and take in the beauty of the building. There is also really cool areas that provide information about the construction and history of the building.

By kent |

One of the most beautiful stations in the country. Plenty to do if you love train history and great traveling exhibits. Pier points is a great steakhouse with a historic legacy.

By Bambi J |

It seemed ok. I never saw the Stonehenge thing advertised outside. The best thing about this place was the actual building and the air show going on outside at the same time. I guess the good thing is that it's free.

By Willie O |

A Grand, historic train station that has permanent & temporary exhibits, a planetarium, a science center as well as award-winning restaurants, coffee shops, leisure activities.
This has something for everyone!
And for the historians, June 17th 1933 Pretty Boy Floyd perpetrated the " Kansas City massacre" where the lives of four peace officers and their prisoner were taken.

By Susan S |

Union Station is so beautiful and Science City is a great place for the kiddos to unwind while learning some fun facts.

By Brenda S |

We did the city tour our first trip and were aware there was 'stuff' inside. So on our second trip...GEESH! Like three levels...escape room, theater, traveling exhibits, restaurants...nice, cool place with bathrooms. I people watched, but could spend some $$.

By HuskerFan010 |

Beautiful architecture to see in the 2nd largest Union Station here. Merely standing in the open grand hall is breath-taking. We enjoyed going to the 2nd level to see the displays describing the history of the train stations in KC, and then describing the peak, decline, and saving of this Union Station. The displays of Fred Harvey china are fun also. We dined at the Harvey's restaurant on the main floor (designed to utilize the ticketing booth area of the original station). The food and service there were FANTASTIC. Highly recommended for lunch while you are at the station. Coffee / pastry shop also looked very inviting.

By magnocapite |

Spent a nice morning here looking at the exhibits and history of union station. Plenty to see and do free of charge, easy to get to on the KC Streetcar. Movie theatre, restaurants on site and themed exhibit that you pay for.

By CHazen |

Union Station is beautiful. This time we took in the "Auschwitz: Not Long Ago, Not Far Away" exhibit. It's necessary to buy the tickets ahead of time. Exhibit was well done and worth the time and the money. Wonderful history lesson...learned volumes of stuff I didn't know.

By WeGoOut |

The architecture of this old train station is beautiful. There are some restaurants and a small model train exhibit. It no longer caters to large numbers of train travelers and does not have the excitement of Grand Central Station in NYC.

The view of the WWI monument and fountain from the main entrance is spectacular.

By tracymhansen41 |

During Memorial Day weekend there was so much to do and see! The Kansas City Symphony was playing in the parking lot so there was limited parking, The firework show over the WWI monument was Absolutely Spectacular!

By phvi2617 |

I arrived in KC by train and found Union Station to be a terrific introduction to the city. The building's architecture is grand, and it houses several attractions, including a really cool model train exhibit. It is located close to the WWI Memorial, and there is also a convenient covered pedestrian walkway to the free KC Streetcar.

By Alek H |

I love railway stations and this is up there with the best of them. Immaculately kept and full of places to eat and shop...as well as access to Amtrak!

By Missy P |

We took our kids 7,5,3, and 5 months old. Even though we went on a Saturday afternoon it never felt super crowded. We bought the membership to get into museums around where we live in Nebraska. The cost was actually the same price to get us all in or get the membership. The first thing we did was check out the planetarium where they played the child one about the tree house and space. My 7 year old was amazed and it helped her understand space and what she has learned in school. The other kids watched it though luckily it wasn't too loud or too long where they started getting bored. Very nice place! The Science City part really exceeded our expectations. We have traveled to many children's museums though this one actually had learning behind everything. I saw many adults reading the plaques to figure out how things were suppose to work! We spend the entire afternoon until it closed at 5pm. We stopped to eat outside the restaurant in Union Station. Food was excellent and we did get some chocoloate from the store inside the science City gift shop.

By beerwriter |

Now a dining, shopping, museum and entertainment venue as well as a transportation hub. Large central hall is a dramatic entrance to the city for train travelers.

By James L |

Had an opportunity to visit Union Station and was impressed by the entire structure and info that was provided.

By Dee Van Horne |

Just a walk back in time to enjoy this architecture and how travel during the early 20th century was important to the American way of life.

By Ben L |

Most of the places in Union Station were closed when we went in. Also, one part was closed for a private venue. Enjoyed looking at the architecture though. It is a beautiful building.

By Webyrd |

Very impressive! Beautifully restored, with many, many restaurants and activities inside or nearby. Busy place!

By ALAN W |

We were here to celebrate our grandson's 5th birthday. We come here often because he likes all the things he can see & do. This time, not all things were open because of COVID. We still did a few things & walked around. We saw the dinosaur exhibit, which he liked. We walked all over Union Station. Then we walked to Crown Center to visit some shops.

By Oyinkánsóla M |

This building remind us of the by gone days of the 1920's. When people take pride with dressings; journeys etc. Beautiful!

By Renbeauty |

This station is a beautiful architectural building with amazing painted ceilings, lots of things to explore and places to eat.The corridor leading to the streetcar was a like a museum tour of the stations history. A must see.

By Grace Fu |

I was planning to visit the museum of illustrate, but it was so crowed and noisy there. Those kids made tons of noisy and I was almost crazy about it.

By Marilyn |

Had to meet at Union Station for the Kansas City Gangster Tour. Walked around and just love the beautiful ceiling. We did not pay for the Christmas Event going on but loved the decor and atmosphere.

By Mike McGonigle |

Always a fun time, love all the rotating exhibits and the model train display is great for kids. Wish the parking was free, but worth a trip nonetheless!

By grandmakate |

There isn’t much to do here except to admire the architecture. They don’t make them like they used to! I wouldn’t make a special trip but we were on the trolley that ends here, so we took a look around before we got back on the trolley.

By Angie W |

Second Holocaust museum I went to. Or maybe third. The most recent was in Florida. Anyway, this would have been a lot better if they would have spaced people out more. Most people were wearing masks though. Some rooms were so crowded that I went thru very quickly.

I did this by myself since the other people in my party didn’t want to go.

Buy tickets in advance. Some days they are sold out.

By Max D |

Basically Grand Central Station in NYC only not as nice or big. There was exhibit there on Genghis Khan at the time but cost whopping $20! Not worth going. Yawn.

By peanutsNewYork |

Amtrak still runs through this historic Union Station. Its a good place to visit, take a tour and have lunch.

By traveltheworld012 |

We happened to be at a antique shop in West Bottoms where we chatted with the owner of the shop. He said we should go visit the Union Station which was built in 1914 after the original Kansas City Union Depot located in West Bottoms which used to be the original downtown but flooded badly in 1906.
Anyway, we drove out to see the Union Station on our last day in KC, Thursday, March 9, 2023. It is an amazing building rivaling the Union Depot in Chicago, not quite Grand Central Station in NY, but still well worth a visit. It is free to visit the station public areas, but you must pay for parking if staying more than 30 minutes. There are several event areas and exhibits but those are also require paid admission. We were only staying for an hour or so. We viewed as much as we could for free. Great place to visit on a rainy day.

By Daniel V |

The station is a gem from the Golden Age of Railroads. Beautifully restored. Don't miss the amazing model railroad exhibits. The streetcar line starts there. Very handy. At night it is floodlit in red. Impressive!

By penahill |

We visited Union Station based on recommendations. This place was amazing. To imagine this station in it's heyday. They have done a wonderful job of restoring and the businesses that are there fit right in. There is a model train display, an interactive science museum for the kids as well as a Nazi concentration camp museum.
Close by is the WW1 museum which is also very a must see.
This place is well worth your time to see when in Kansas City.

By Trish W |

We prepurchased tickets for the Auschwitz Exhibit before our trip. There is parking next to Union Station which is fine but they also handle the post office employees parking so arrange not to be leaving at the end of business day because each car has to stop on the way out and use a card to pay. It is tedious when busy. The exhibit is downstairs and will take at least 3 hours, easily more. It will drain you physically, mentally and emotionally, but it is well worthwhile if you haven’t visited a Holocaust museum before. It is a bit crowded and masks are required. You are given a self-touring audio and headphones but it is sometimes hard to find the item you are looking for. The only thing I disliked is that there are precious few benches to sit for a few minutes and there were so many people. This can be wearying for older people to stand in place for long periods of time. That is why I gave it only 4 stars.

By M M |

We went to the Holiday Reflections and I couldn't of been more disappointed. As you first enter, more than half of the evergreen forest lights were out, the model train exhibit, plus the mini train were closed due to technical difficulties, and it just ended up being a bunch of Christmas themed selfie and photo stations with long lines and over crowding. the VR sleigh ride was additional cost with long lines as well. Overall I was sorely let down.

By wilmingtonwillie2016 |

Wow! When railroad travel was king, stations like this were called cathedrals, and the restoration of KC’s Union Station is magnificent. The accompanying exhibits around the perimeter of the station describe the economic force railroads had the first half of the 20th century. Be sure to see the exhibits on the second, third and fourth floors, all free.

By Samantha B |

Beautiful building. Lots to look at. AC building. Parking is not free. Attractions change frequently we went for the disney expo.

By robinreagan3 |

I love train stations and while this one doesn't have quite the modernist flare of Cincinnati or DC's stations, it has a classical grandeur worth seeing from inside and out. You definitely feel the passing of time seeing how many passenger tracks the station accommodated in the past compared to a single one for Amtrak today. Beautifully restored, it's worth visiting and with the KC streetcar stop adjacent to the station, free and easy to reach from downtown.

By Laura |

Attended a wine tasting event here and would love to return to see more. Beautiful old building in the heart of the city, there were many people out and about enjoying the area and the event we attended went off without a hitch.

By Julie C |

I will probably never make it to the real Stonehenge, but this exhibit brought the stones and bones that tell the story of the progressive build of Stonehenge right to our doorstep. Videos, models and artifacts reveal how construction continued over different extended periods of time. Fascinating!

By Charles E |

planetarium, $ 30.00 for my daughter and I plus $10.00 for parking wasn't mentioned when I purchased tickets online . First of all it was hooky, Graphics and resolution, was stuck in the 60s and not a very good presentation 34 minutes for 40 bucks I wont ever go back . Thanks hometown KC very disappointing.

By GiGiPlus4 |

Union Station is always a place to frequent. The new dinosaur statue is awesome addition. I recommend it to travelers.

By LoveTravel756963 |

One of the rescued grand train stations put to many worthwhile uses. Visit the Planetarium, Science Center, one of the theaters, one of the special exhibits such as the current one from Stinehinge or marvel at the lobby and you will understand why this is a must for every visitor.

By Denise M |

We went here based on Trip Advisor. This is a good rainy day place for kids but after breakfast, there is no real adult oriented options. We did appreciate the observatory show, but it is really for children. There are evening laser shows for adults but not during the day. The movie theater is also more child focus during the day. Parking is great.

By Jason |

Real nice science center for our kids ages 2-13. Our 2yr old enjoyed the dinosaur and the shocking station.

By CreateSF |

Came here for a brief stop over, and glad it was brief. There really wasn't too much to do here aside from buy souvenirs from overpriced vendors! There appeared to be a science fair type of store for kids. The one thing that I did see that I like was this wonderful sweet shop....so many great chocolates, cookies, candy apples, etc.

By elchaco |

We went to walk around Union Station and take in the beauty of it! It is truly an amazing building with many things to do inside. We didn't get to do anything other than walk around because we were short on time, but there is enough to spend almost a whole day there!

By Letsroadtrip |

While we went for the Auschwitz exhibit (which is there through January 2022 and absolutely worth it) the building itself is worth the free half hour parking you can get just to see it. A trip back in time, including a real life phone booth. Would love to have been there once when it was a bustling train station.

By Patrick C |

We visited in December. Not being from Kansas City we didn’t know this was the place to be-like everyone was there. If you want that Disney in the Midwest feel kc’s train station is the place to be.

That said, had I not gone in at a crazy busy time the station seemed like a fun place to be. Lots of parking. Lots of entertainment options, building is beautiful. I think it’s an fine tourist attraction…just not 2 weekends before Christmas.

By Sean M |

My family and I went to Union Station to see the holiday light exhibit and unfortunately thought we had purchased tickets for an hour earlier than we actually had. We took a look around Union Station and got some coffee while we waited, after about 30 minutes of waiting we asked if there was a possibility of getting in to the exhibit a little early as our youngest son with autism has a difficult time with waiting. The attendant told us we couldn’t get in right then but could in another 15 minutes.

Although our son was getting affected, we still waited the 15 minutes that was stated to us, but when we returned, the attendant told us we would have to wait more. After telling the attendant we already waited the time he stated and telling him that we had a finite amount of time to see the exhibit before our son went into a meltdown, the attendant showed no cares or compassion and simply ignored us.

We left after that, not getting to see the exhibit, disappointing our kids and wasting time and money. I would not recommend anyone with kids or loved ones with special needs to visit somewhere so cold and callus. Do better!

By Pursue K |

Went to the Auschwitz exhibit this weekend and the exhibit itself was well worth it. KCMO has a mask mandate in effect and several people inside the exhibit and Union Station were not wearing masks and others wore them under their noses. Union Station was not enforcing masks at all and that's why I am giving 2 stars. Also, the exhibit was VERY crowded with people packed in like sardines. Had I known US would not enforce the KCMO mask mandate and that they were packing people in like sardines, I never would have purchased tickets. If you are worried about Covid, go at your own risk.

By mrsnewberry14 |

This place was so beautiful! The architecture is fabulous. We were there to attend the Auschwitz exhibition, which was very eloquently displayed and very informative.

By tarajean424 |

My family and I parked here when we were going to the Hallmark center. I really did not know what to expect here and we were going to take the link to the crown center. Walking in, I was taken back by the beauty of this place. I could tell at one time this was probably a popular and bustling train center. It was not crowded at all, and there were a few shops and exhibits. They have big restrooms and nice exhibits. This is a great place to visit, and my expectations were exceeded I wish my family could have had more time to explore all the exhibits.

By Christine S |

Just an OK experience. Great the view the building architecture; but if you don't have children and are paying to see the exhibits there is very little to do. The inside restaurant has very limited hours, the gift shop is tiny and un-impressive, and parking is a mess.

By Whetherperson |

Enjoyed the historical displays around the main room. Especially interesting were the ones about the Harvey Restaurants and Harvey girls.

By gmv2016 |

We enjoyed our trip to Union Station. The grand hall is very impressive! Make sure you go to the lower lever to check out the train displays.

By sharrongeg |

We enjoyed our brief visit, but not much was happening at noon on a Friday. Nice architecture. If you are going to the WWI museum, it is worth taking a quick view.

By gare99 |

I am a member and I love visiting. I am single and still have plenty of things for me to do. I always make sure to check out the exhibitions, theater, science city, planetarium, model train exhibit.

By Not Quite Adult ;) |

Literally the prettiest station I have ever been in and I thought that Grand Central Station in New York city was the best!
Also your new airport was the nicest I've ever seen. In addition your people; the kindest

We sat down a lovely bar watching the hustle and bustle close to the gorgeous Christmas tree.

Well worth the visit to see such a stunning place. Coming from somebody who's not a Train Spotter and a big fan of aeroplanes this is a big deal.

❤️

By Cindy G |

The magic of Christmas lives here! During a difficult year, magic is the best medicine. There is no shortage at Union Station. Social distancing does not stop a smooth interaction with the museum.

By Henry M |

First time to Kansas City, didn't know what to do on Christmas day, so we went to Union Station. Once at Union Station we took a lot of photos. Within the building there are restaurants, gift shops, the science museum which we visited a few days later. The Station was decorated very festive. Across from Union Station is Crown Centre which has a legoland and aquarium. On top of the hill is World War 2 museum. All the attractions are within walking distance. Had an awesome experience. Will definitely visit again.

By Cheryl H |

Currently the restrooms and Grand hall are under construction at Union Station. My sisters and I visited Union Station for the first time. It’s beautiful! We enjoyed the Trolley tour and riding the free KC trolley car downtown. Trolley Tom provided a wealth of knowledge. We had dinner reservations at the freight train JackStack BBQ and ended up walking the long way down main street in 90 degree weatherfrom Union Station because no one including workers at Union Station knew there was a freight train bridge that was a short walk from the back of the Amtrak station that led right across into the parking lot of Jack Stack BBQ. Im hopeful there will be better signs put out for those who would enjoy seeing the train display and the railroad yard from the freight train bridge in the future.

By William B |

This is not an actual train 🚉 station in so many words but more like an museum but Amtrak still has a ticket office there. Private events can also be held there as well. There's a gift shop and a few upscale eateries.

By Debbie W |

We always enjoy our visit to Union Station at Christmas and look forward to walking through the Grand Hall. This visit it was closed for a special event. At Christmas?!?!? We were very disappointed.

By Twila E |

What a gem of a building! This was a highlight of our trip and should not be missed by anyone coming to Kansas City for a visit. Beautifully restored interior and exterior, a true grand dame of the city. Especially interesting was the porcelain ware on display with historical narrative describing the use of the dishes and how meal service came about on trains back in the ‘50’s. Memorable!

By tanje1 |

We walked from the other side of railroad track through that over 200 old bridge to union station. I love most about this build not only the nice architecture but it also has a small railroad model.

By Jaime F |

Went to see the Disney 100 exhibition which was good. The station itself is beautiful and has some history printed abound the station that is interesting. If it wasn’t for the Disney exhibit though I don’t know if I would go back

By Tim R |

Four of us walked through on Saturday October 26. Part of the station was blocked of due to some time of ticketed black tie affair (maybe a high-end charity auction?).

The station is beautifully restored and has a free model train museum in the rear.

There are many historical displays and photos from the past when the station was a busy commuter/traveler center.

Also there are several paid exhibits and a science center which we did not have time to view.

By EC13091 |

Old railroad stations are often grand, and Union Station really fits the bill. (It’s too bad Kansas City International Airport isn’t as grand!). We had lunch here by buying from a market, but there were many options. And we were impressed with the underground floors complete with movie theater and planetarium. You should definitely try to visit during your stay in Kansas City.

By DalyKCMO |

Not only is this place easy to get to and park at, it is a great way to spend a couple hours. The different exhibits are educational and fun for all ages. There are good food and coffee options to relax and kill some time.

By acatinting |

There is a restaurant in the lobby that has one of the nicest Sunday brunch buffet around. Perfect food, service and ambience. If you want to check out fine dining at Pierpont's you cannot go wrong! Everything from filets to burgers are top notch! Fish and chips, salads, lovely bread and desserts to make you drool! You can burn off some of those calories at any of the great exhibits and movies.

By travelingCAgal |

We couldn’t find a convenient place to park so we simply took turns going inside to look at this station. It is enormous and quite beautiful! There’s something very iconic about older train stations in big cities!

By Thomas V |

The historic train station from another century has been recycled as a place for food and fun. The architecture has been lovingly preserved and there are good restaurants here. A must for a visitor.

By Julie S |

We love that they brought back Union Station. What a gem! The architecture is amazing. So many options of things to do. It is a must see!

By KD9438157 |

Sunday Brunch at Harvey’s was superb. $30. All you can eat. Tons of options. The whole station is immaculate and so charmingly nostalgic. Take the time to go upstairs to learn more about KC railroads and how Union Station came to be. It’s a self guided exhibit but very worthwhile.

By larryyoung1955 |

if you are in K.C. you must go see the Depot. what a beautiful building that has been rehabbed and repurposed with shops . think of all the WWll soldiers that used this station to depart for their next assignment in middle america.you can feel the history here and it's easy to get to. go see it while you are in town.

By FranklinDcat |

2nd biggest train station in the country that has been restored to its former glory. Houses a variety of restaurants and shops as well as a science center.
Beautiful architecture and paintings inside.

A short walk downhill from the WW1 Memorial. KC tour trolley stops here.

By Marti W |

It's a great place to waste some time. Beautiful tall celiings, great little stores, food, and activities for the whole family.

By BronxSteve |

A classic old station, restored to its former glory. Some interesting shops and exhibits inside. (You can catch a train there, too!)

Beautiful building. Model train area is interesting and includes a Lego display. Coffee shop had good coffee. Would be nice if there were more shops.

By Greg R |

Enjoyed the trolly ride altho the trolly is very noisey with road noise on rough streets - great to hear when stopped - guide was excellent and kept talking for 1 1/2 hours. Recommend.

By Marc_and_Kim_Z |

Don’t have kids so it was a quick visit. If you have kids there is a lot.

Beautiful building with shops and eateries. Each exhibit is a different price. Order tickets online to keep it easy

Union Station has an interesting history. It’s worth spending an afternoon exploring it. There are a few eateries and attractions that might be worth partaking.

By TCairl |

They always have an installation of somekind to tour. There's a great cafe/restaurant in the main atrium. And for fun you can try the PIedmont Room bar and restaurant just off the lobby.

By Living Life |

Interactive fun with children. Test your mind and strength with a variety of activities. Fun for all ages

By Gary B |

I took a brief walk around Union Station's lobby and concourse, noting that the Science Center has a Planetarium and is hosting a Stonehenge exhibit. I grabbed a quick sandwich at the lobby deli and dessert/ w. coffee, at Parisi Cafe.

If you appreciate historic buildings, stop and see this one when you’re in KC. It’s ornate detail is well preserved and easy to go see.

By Roger W |

Union Station is an old building that used to be very important as a train connection. Today there are some exhibitions in the building and a restaurant, smaller shops and the post office in the building. It is basically a nice building and if you are in the vicinity it is worth a visit. But it is certainly not a must-see.

By Ron B |

A few nice restaurants. Exhibits and usually some limited-time temporary exhibits. A few interesting store and museum items. Science Fair and store. You can easily spend a couple of hours here. Well worth it.

By Nate C |

Brings you back in time, great place to show to kids. Fantastic collection of historic photos. Patriotic.

By RunningInGrace |

Came out from Sacramento, California for the marathon and the race packet pickup was here at the marathon expo. Although it was not my first time at Union Station, my mouth drops every time I see the exterior of the building and enter the majestic interior. You have such a phenomenal icon in this place and bravo to this great city for restoring it and keeping it relevant.

By kadinger |

I like the fountain out front and nice stuff to see. Great area to visit and just chill, or walk around.

By Roger K |

Beautiful building showing the great workmanship of days gone by! Many attractions, restaurants, and interesting things to do inside this grand structure! Worth a stop to checkout!

By norski1109 |

Large Station that has fantastic architectural features that echo a bygone era. The ceiling alone is worth the visit

By Calmjohn |

I visit Union Station just for the feeling of the era of the passenger train.Parking is adequate and close to the front of the entrance. As you enter you are over come by the vast size. The architecture is amazing. I spend over an hour in the 'train room' watching the miniature trains make their runs in such a precise manner each time that I go. The large exhibits are always good and of course their are areas of wonderful exhibits for children

By steps traveled |

Nice building, however nothing was open, very small. Has two eating places, two very small museums and science city. Post office is there. Amtrack has an office there. Other than that, nothing. It was really a waste of our time to travel there. Must pay for parking, probably why parking lot was almost empty. Save time, skip this one.

By RedRandyR |

KC's Union station brings back memories of the glamorous days of train travel. It's been cleaned up, and restored, but to to the point that the restoration erases the indications of millions of travellers being there over 100 years or more. The restaurants are great, and there are other attractions that make it worth an afternoon spent in the venue.

By michaeljones46 |

Cool massive building, great architecture. Place hosts different events, years back I attended a reception here and it was an awesome venue.

By newuanda1 |

Our kids love the big expansive hall - Grand Plaza. Gave Harry Potter vibes in the bathroom and walking around the station. Visit the free train models while you are there. There are a lot of other fun kid activities (admission costs required) to do and restaurants.
Fountains were not on as it was too early in the season.
We went during the day - would be fun to go at night to see the building lit up.

By RRTravelServices |

Union Station is beautiful, nostalgic, well-managed, and a must-see destination for anyone coming to Kansas City. At Christmastime, it is simply like stepping back in time. The massive Christmas tree in the front hall is probably the best in all of Kansas City. The Ambiance is enchanting and 40s vibe is Charming. It also houses two exceptional restaurants, Science Center, a gift shop, several mini museums, and oh yeah it's still a functioning train station.

By Juliet S |

We went to Union Station to see the Christmas decorations. Found out that you could only see the Christmas tree. The other Christmas decorations, you had to pay to see. You also have to pay for parking at Union Station and if you park at Crown Center, you only have 2 hours unless you spend $50 or more and have your ticket validated at CC. This is so wrong and upsetting to me. You have to pay to do anything anymore. If there is a Santa, they probably make you pay to take pictures with him. This is sad in so many ways and disappointing to families with children. We are not made out of money. Even have to pay to see the toy trains.

By ReginaW |

The Exhibit of Auschwitz’s is so humbling and moving. Around each corner there was something more earth shaking than the one before. This is our 2nd time here and I was so glad they extended it’s time here. Outside of DC and Poland this is a very important exhibit. Everyone should take the time to visit.

By PaulaDi-47 |

We loved the model train exhibit, especially the Christmas themed exhibit. The atmosphere was vibrant with nice views and a history of the station from the balcony. The special Genghis Khan exhibit was a must see for anyone who likes museum displays. There are several nice restaurants in the station and others very close to the station.

By CRAIG C |

Beautiful old train station but it lacks things to do. They charge a $15 fee to park — even if you are just going to the post office. There is a coffee shop, restaurant, and a few stores. It’s a nice one-time spot to visit.

By Travel Life Pilot Wife |

Can't go wrong strolling through a beautiful old building after an amazing dinner at Jack Stacks (Freight House). Leave car parked and cross the bridge. If we'd been earlier would've explored the science place.

By Scrappinkay6 |

If you have never been to Stonehenge or knew anything about this historic site in England, you were probably disappointed with this exhibit. However, I was not. I have been to Stonehenge when it snowed and once for the summer solistice. I never knew they had all these artificats from this site. I saw bones from cows and pigs, jewelry, jars. and weapons. It took me 4 hours to go through the exhbit. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has been to Stonehenge.

By Mike Hunt |

The building itself is worth a walk through and look around. There are very few examples in the Midwest of this 100 year old plus building in this excellent shape of condition.

By Carlos T |

This is the first time visiting this place and the overall experience was average! The Union Station is beautiful and has a few restaurants and a few shops. Not much to see at this site. Parking is $5.00 for two hours.

By P Jay |

I thoroughly enjoyed Union Station. The science center was full of fun and engaging activities and displays to keep young and old people involved. There was plenty of choice, and lots of room to move about; so you didn't feel like you were cramped. Many interesting things to do.

By Doug F |

Union Station is more than a train station. In fact, Union Station has a small waiting room for the Amtrak train service. There are no amenities in the waiting area and the section of Union Station for train service is in a small place, in the corner of Union Station, near Pierpont's restaurant. The remainder of Union Station is a cultural, dining, and exhibit area.

When we visited there was the Holiday Reflections display, the model train gallery, and Maya Exhibit. There is also Science City, theaters, a planetarium, and even a post office.

Union Station has attractions for everybody. In addition, it is close to other attractions.

By Teresa F |

Beautiful building with great history. The upkeep of the building is amazing and the historical value is priceless. There are exhibits, information on the history of the station and beautiful architect.

By Shane M |

Great historical experience good coffee shop and on the weekends the restaurant inside has a brunch that is good

By kdpbball |

It is a beautiful building, which gives you a perspective of what train travel was in days gone by. It houses a Science Museum, gift shop, chocolate shop among others.

By easyout2015 |

Do to a limited amount of time, we decided to briefly check out the Union Station. We spent about 20 minutes inside the facility to observe and appreciate the classic architectural design. The place oozes with a historical feel and perspective. Wish we could have stayed longer.

By Joleen F |

Union Station is absolutely gorgeous. With so many different things to do there. We went to the Auschwitz exhibit. Very interesting but over crowded and hard to enjoy. Had breakfast at Harvey’s. The miniature train area is cool and very detailed. Also went to the illusion museum.

By mrsirin |

This building remind me of Union Station in Washington, DC. Beautiful details in the interior, along with shops and exhibits downstairs.

By Don K |

The minute you walk into Union Station you can imagine stepping back in time, the grander of rail travel in that era the hustle and bustle and shoeshine boys

By Aaron B |

This place is a must see if you’re into history and if you like trains . Plenty to do with children and several restaurants inside . Easy access and plenty of parking .

By Meghann R |

We took our 6-year-old specifically to see the Epic Road Trip — and were very disappointed. The animatronic dinosaurs were cool, but there was no connection to the Road Trip part — not even “fossils of this Dino were found here!” The dinosaurs weren’t necessarily to scale, and there was almost no educational information about them. Finally, it only took us 20 minutes to walk through the display that cost us nearly $40 to see. Very disappointing for the price, and overall just a poor display.

By GoingGone2018 |

Beautiful place, great history. The Harvey display and photos are really great. Lovely place to walk around and catch the streetcar to P&L. So charming - love the buiding. Fun to imagine all the servicemen and women leaving and coming home on the trains. Went to the Pompei exhibt a while back and it was fabulous. Wanting to go to the Stonehenge display next. We didn't have time to go to an exhibit this trip but will go soon.

By Lisa B |

We did not see the Stonehedge exhibit that was advertised. The best thing we saw during our first visit to Union Station was the model train set up. If you like to see model trains or if model trains are your hobby this is a must see.

By John H |

What a beautiful building with historical significance. As a child I recall traveling round trip to Kansas City by train and arriving at Union Station. Just walking in the lobby doors brought back memories of our family waiting for us. You can take a virtual history tour by down loading the Living History app on your smart phone or tablet. Look for markers on the floor then tap the marker on your device and it will tell the story about what you are seeing. Best of all, it's free! stop by the Information Counter for more info.

Beautifully maintained train station from bygone days. If you visit during Summer, 2019, be sure to go out back to experience the marvelous kinetic artwork called "Reflecting Motion." Do NOT miss this stunning, free exhibit.

By Barbara M |

Fabulous architecture. So much history. We traveled by Amtrak to and from Union Station. It was such a treat to visit a building that we know at one time, was a huge part of travel history

By Bert S |

Way too many people. Could hardly walk around and read anything. Would not recommend unless you have all day.

By Michael O |

It’s amazing when you learn what really happen that faithful day in Kansas City. The hundreds of Thousands of individuals that passed through on the train. The grand hall things to see and places to eat this is a must see stopping if you’re in Kansas City

By Cynthia B |

We went for barbecue, it was nice. I feel like MO is underrated and has so much culture and history to offer. It's a great place to visit.

By Carrie |

Hubby and I went to Union Station after the Chiefs won the SuperBowl to get pics by all of the neat lighted signs that had been put up in the building. Navigating around the inside of the building was easy and the stanchions that had been put up around each large sign made getting your pic easier to do. People were friendly and accommodating, often taking pics of the party in front of them so they could have one "together". Loved the football history they had on display as well.

My only gripe was the location of the parking and the price. The parking lot was across the street and it wasn't intuitive where you needed to enter the building. The fee to park was exorbitant at $10, but I assume they charged that much due to the overwhelming number of people that were coming to check it out.

By Tiran A |

Union Station in Kansas City is an amazing sight to behold with its impressive early 20th century architecture, including high ornately detailed ceilings. Unfortunately, during my visit the majority of the station was closed, including the restaurants and gift shops (likely due to Covid). However, it is still worth a visit to take in the architectural sights and there is still a few places open within.

By Alicia J |

My brother and I had purchased tickets for the 4pm Auchwitz Exhibit because we were flying into Kansas City that day. I feel we got ripped off in only getting to spend 2 hours there. We were not able to watch videos, listen to our personal devices, see, and read everything. After 1 hour, we were at station 22 of 66 stations. At that point we felt rushed.

Cons:
NOT enough seating for the videos. One hard bench that seats two is ridiculous!

Rooms are kept too warm.

Stupid that women cannot bring in their purse.

4pm ticket holders have to rush through.

No gift shop for books, memorabilia.

Pros:

Beautiful building to walk around

Awesome personal devices to listen to!

Beautifully set up.

Very affordable! In fact, was worth more.

By bcasey1 |

We enjoyed visiting this lovely station. Lots of options of things to do within the building, but we mostly just enjoyed the lovely architecture, and taking the electro street car just outside of the station. It was a reminder of the detail that is rarely seen anymore.

By Johnny K |

Union Station is a beautiful building that has been superbly restored and offers many interesting shops and eating experiences. It gives us a great view of what travel was like in the golden age of railroads and offers unique history of this area of Kansas City!

By Deb J |

Took the tram to Union Station - what a spectacular building. History, architecture are amazing. Would be a great place to take kids and enjoy the exhibits.

By stOOOge |

Union Station is a real Gem. I had never been inside this magnificent old building in the heart of KC. Outstanding architecture you just wonder if the walls could talk what would be revealed of this place. Full of restaurants and shops, as well as the Amtrak Station and a kids science museum. Outside you can still see the bullet holes in the granite from a gangland mob slaying which occurred in broad daylight way back when.
Interesting place to visit.

By Pd63123 |

Amazing what Kansa city has been able to accomplish in revitalizing their Union Station. The train display was very interesting, walked around all 4 floors, parking was reasonable and Lots of free interesting bits of history..

By K E |

Hey have lots of things to do including just walking around a restored old school train station. Was a lot of fun to be in there again this year.

By Marcel |

We were amazed at how beautiful Union Station is since having been saved from demolition and there is a walking tour on the history of the Station very informative

By JazzinInJersey |

I received a $10 VIP coupon from Living Social - thank goodness. We were excited to view this and were SO DISAPPOINTED. We walked away not learning much more than before we arrived. Way too many redundant artifacts - how many antlers used to dig does a person really care to see ? Also femur bones of animals enclosed in a case - who cares. Two really boring movies with an actress- just pathetic. Don't waste your time and if you must go- get the discounted coupon or you will kick your own butt on the way into the boring gift shop for this exhibit.

By RobBoston80 |

Since no one takes trains anymore - it was nice to see KC preserve this building. We really enjoyed touring this architectural gem.

By Pdavis |

The building is beautiful and has so much history for Kansas City. There is an amazing brunch at Harvey’s on Sunday. There is a miniature train display. There is an IMAX theater and science city. They usually have a special traveling display. We saw the Genghis Khan exhibit. You can catch the streetcar and trolley from here and both are worthwhile. There is also a walkway to Crown Center with lots of interesting shops and food courts

By Josh S |

Decorations were ok but no mentions of the word Christmas at a Christmas themed exhibit. People are tired of replacing Merry Christmas with Happy Holidays.

By Donna M |

We love going to Union station. Like going back in time. Beautiful architecture and historic venue. Fine dining and casual dining and a train station to travel to places. A nice coffee shop with local coffees.

By Bill W |

My wife and I loved Union Station. It has a wonderful model railroad display. It was fun for us as well as all of the kids visiting with there parents. The building was almost torn down a few years ago, but it has been saved and update. During our visit there was a Stonehenge Exhibition on display. What was nice was that the free Kansas City Trolley Car stopped by Union Station. Union Station is a beautiful historic building.

By Jessica K |

We stopped in to see the architectural aspects of this historic building. Normally there is a 30 minute free parking option, but during the holidays they have a ‘special event’ of lights and displays so no free parking - it was $12 in the garage or $15 at the nearest lots. Everything was for an additional fee - all the holiday light displays, Disney, science fair, planetarium - all at an additional fee. We walked around the main concourse which was nicely decorated for the holiday, and free. The place was packed. We did pay to go into the science part, but it was really more for little kids (like a hands on playground with a science themed). Not sure any of it was worth the money, but it did get us out of the cold.

By Safari616288 |

What a glorious place! So happy KC kept this beautiful building instead of tearing it down as many other cities have done.

By drmike52 |

There are some really good restaurants there but my experience was centered around train travel. Inside they manage and organize passengers well. The walkway to the train is really poor. 1 elevator or a long trek down stairs with luggage - difficult. I got there at 1:30 in the morning. Thank God for the 1 Lyft driver still out there that came to pick me up and take me to the hotel. No cabs operating in the area.

By Andrew G |

Like other massive stone train stations that no longer exist to serve thousands of passengers, this one continues as a public space, but now with museum attractions, a planetarium, and a restaurant. Well worth a visit.

By Anne and BobJ |

Union Station is a beautiful historic building. You can spend hours just walking around and seeing all the pictures.

Starbucks and several restaurants inside. The model train display is a must see if you like trains.

They always have some time of exhibition or event going on to see.

If you are in KC it is well worth a visit.

By Janice M |

Union Station was very clean and an enjoyable experience. Went to visit the Auschwitz Exhibit. It was very moving. The exhibit took us a little over 2 hours. We also watched Big Sonia on the Extreme Screen at Union Station. Definately watch Big Sonia if you have a chance. The Extreme Screen has very comfortable seating. We walked thru a few of the stores at Union Station. Decided to take the skywalk across to the Crown Plaza but should have opted to just walk the street. The skywalk was very hot until you get closer to the Crown Plaza side. The parking garage at Union Station was convenient. It did appear to get crowded later in the day.

By Masha |

As an artist who enjoys architecture at its finest, I rank this second to the Station in Pittsburgh, PA. It’s beautiful, clean and we enjoyed the cityscape on the way into town.

By derrickwg36 |

Union Station Kansas City is a great attraction to visit for indoor activities. The station is historic and have several attractions for individuals and families, like restaurants and the Illusion Museum. This is a great place to visit and experience the culture of Kansas City. Social Distancing is enforced and this is a great place to bring friends or family.

By angelajod |

We have a membership and go several times a year. The holiday decorations and activities are so special. Science City can captivate our kids for hours on end and we all enjoy the planetarium. Truly one of our very favorite places to be in KC. The traveling exhibits (recently Dinosaurs and Stonehenge) are always very well done and worth the price. Great restaurants as well!

By mc.iles |

Nicely renovated train station, cool to see something that old still standing and being utilized today. Several different attractions, includes shops, restaurants, theaters, exhibits and an interactive science center. You can hop on the KC streetcar and take it all the way to City Market free of charge.

If TLTR go to the end!, We came to Kansas City specifically to visit the Union Station Museum and more specifically the Auschwitz exhibit. Not knowing for sure what our arrival time would be we did not look at pre purchasing tickets. DON"T BE LIKE US!
We arrived at the station and found a parking garage on site that charged $5.00 for the first 4 hours. A pretty good deal if you ask me. We did see some free parking but it looked like a small lot and people were aimlessly driving in circles waiting for someone to leave and swoop into there spot.
We enter the museum and see the signs for the exhibit and another sign stating pre-purchased tickets are required. Now, I never saw anywhere on the museums website that told you pre-purchased tickets are required. I double checked after we left and, nope nowhere. So, we pull out our phones and go to the website. Go to purchase tickets and the next available tickets are for 1:00 PM. Perfect! The current time was 12:45. Go through the process of buying the tickets and afterwards we realize the dates for our tickets was August 30th. Keep in mind today is JULY 17TH!
Assuming it's just some snafu we go to the exhibit and speak to an employee who confirms the next available ticket is AUGUST 30TH! The employee tells us that we had to have picked the date to get a time, we assured her we did not and we did not see the date until the transaction was finalized. The employee did refund our money. I figured it was just us until we heard the person behind us in line tell the employee they experienced the same issue.
*Long story short* The exhibit is sold out at least 6 weeks in advance. If you want to see it buy your tickets now and plan accordingly!

Fun to walk around in and get a feel for the travel of a past era and see another of the great old train terminals in the US.

By MelissaWP |

We parked in the lot and spent about 30-45 minutes walking around to admire the awesome architecture in this massive space. This place has a hidden must-see gem on the third floor: a mini museum/exhibit on the station's history and renovation.

By Rhonda D |

There is such local history in this building along side so many modern day activities for all ages. Take in the current show, the museum, the miniature train set, science city, planetarium, movie, Imax and more. Do not miss at the holidays. The decorations are stellar. And, remember to look up.

By Norman B |

Very expensive long-term parking. No security that I saw! Take a taxi. Lots of stealing. My catalytic converter was stolen (2 0r 3 years ago) as well as my friends was stolen also at the same time.! Also closes and locks doors at midnight and nowhere to wait inside for an early train departure. Or a late arrival. Need more assistance for riders getting off train. Station is beautiful but need to improve Amtrak services.

By _fbstrouth |

Model train display at Union Station was well worth seeing. Very nicely done and free. Train enthusiast will enjoy it.

By joiedevivre830 |

Union Station should be on your list when visiting Kansas City. Whether you’re into history or looking for something for your kids, there is plenty to choose. The restored train station is beautiful and when you’re there you can imagine the flurry of activity when the railroads were fully operational. Take a photo under the original clock hanging from the ceiling in the great hall. The KC Street Car will drop you off just outside and is free to ride.

By Olivia Barlowe |

The building is gorgeous. It's worth it to go and just enjoy the atmosphere.

We stopped by on Saturday, Labor Day weekend, and were surprised to discover the Auschwitz exhibit. We were told they were sold out, but we could try to get walk-up tickets. The man behind the counter said they have anywhere from 25 to 100 walk-up tickets available everyday. They were sold out for Sunday, but he suggested coming back on Monday at 8:30, when they open, to buy them. So we did, and got tickets immediately.

The Auschwitz exhibit downstairs was packed. Because there were so many people, and so much to look at, it took six hours to tour the entire thing. Went in at 9:30, left at 3:30. This is not a quick stop. Plan to spend all day at the station/exhibit.

I did have to use eye contact and subtle body language in order to see everything. I did my best to both make room for other people, but also slightly step into their bubble to make them move. Most people are respectful and will step a tad out of your way, so you both can look at the item.

Please also be patient. The crowds rotated every minute or so, as they worked their way through the audio tour as the curators intended. While this may cause a delay, it's not meant to detract from the experience at all. The videos on the walls had timers in the corner, so you knew from afar how much was left before you could tune in from the beginning - or the group in front of you would move. Look at the other artifacts in the meanwhile. You have plenty of time to see everything if you do so stategically.

They give you a device and headphones, so you can listen to the audio stories without disturbing anyone else. It looks like your smartphone, but smaller. Please turn your actual phone to silent/vibrate. It otherwise wrecks the pensive/heavy atmosphere.

The exhibit leaves in January, so there's plenty of time to still see it. Try to get the 9:00 tickets; they let you in 30 minutes beforehand, so hopefully that means fewer people.

There is also an exhibit companion book, on sale for $45 from the gift shop or ticket counter outside the exhibit. It helps to refresh the memory of the exhibit, and goes more in-depth about the artifacts on display. It is easily one of the best non-fiction books I've read in years. The language is engaging and thought-provoking. If you feel the need to skip sections or rooms or certain artifacts because of the crowds, the companion book will help fill in the gaps. Please do yourself a favor and purchase a copy, if you go.

Union Station is a wonderfully preserved gem and worthy of your visit, even if just for a quick stroll through the grand lobby to admire the majesty and beauty of its vaulted ceiling and artistry throughout. Although I was a little disappointed in the miniature train exhibit, I was delighted to discover the display of Harvey House china in the lobby, which was very well done and informative.

By Ron D |

Awesome place to visit. Walked through the gallery on 2nd and 3rd floor, amazing what was done to refurbish it.
The place is huge. We visited the Science store.
Stood and stared at the ceiling. Did some, but not all the simulated stories. This is where you download app and then stand in certain places.

Amtrak is down the north wing. Walked up to it, but then there was a security.

Downside, unlike the Durham in Omaha it feels as though there is a tremendous amount pf wasted space.

The Stonehenge exhibit is currently there. Franky the price was a bit stiff for us with the time we had, price was $19 person.

Will return now that we have an idea of where and how to park, plus take the tunnel (at least there was a sign telling us there was a tunnel) over to the Crown plaza.

By Gregory D |

Visiting Union station in Kansas City, Missouri was awesome to sightsee because of its impressive height of artistic ceiling. The sculptured areas on the columns, walls, and ceilings were beautiful and simple to watch throughly. There was a wall of older photographic murals on the side of the Union Station. We were impressed by everything was in very good condition as it was built long ago and was well-preserved. Wow!

By TSP2014 |

We parked at Union Station and then took the Link to Crown Center. When we came back we walked through part of Union Station. The place is amazingly big. We got some great pictures. There are several things to see there as well.

By Christine G |

I always enjoy a visit to Union Station when I'm in KC. It a beautiful building, and I love it's that in being used for several different purposes. You can go to the science center, watch a movie, grab something to eat, or see the exhibit that's on display. Plus, you can still board a train here and travel across the country on Amtrak. This visit, my friends and I went to see the Stonehenge exhibit. I was not impressed, at all, by this exhibit, and found it boring and repetitive. The artifacts on display weren't even unimpressive. My advise would be to skip the exhibit, do something else at a the station like see a movie or grab something to eat. When I was there they were showing the Lion King in the movie theater.

By Jesse J |

Don't fail to take a long or short visit to this very interesting structure that once was incredibly busy.

By Jessica F |

Highly recommend Union Station. The architecture is astonishing, there are activities for the kids, and history galore. Fun for the whole family. Traveled with kids ages 5, 8, & 10.

By JoE W |

This place was amazing! We went straight away to the Magic Tree house : Space Mission in the planetarium and it was a blast. It seemed pretty expensive for about a 40 minute interactive movie. Everything else you can do there costs money and we couldn't afford it, but it was a beautiful place and full of history. The family got bored quickly, but this dad loved it and was able to help keep them engaged. Maybe having more available other than expensive shops and overpriced entertainment would be more inviting.

This place is amazing! Lots to do-investigate the shops, catch a movie and investigate the historical photos that line the walls. We talked to a maintenance guy who gave some of the little known facts about the place. There was a wedding reception and people all around-hustling and bustling. Beautifully restored.

By Cryptic_Tourist |

My friends and I came here for the Disney100 exhibition and loved it! The exhibit itself was pretty neat if you’re a diehard Disney fan, but afterwards make sure you head upstairs to see the cool model trains they have on display. This is a gorgeous place!
