So we rented a bike in Breck and got the shuttle-package up t Vail then rode down at some speed. Man I could do that all day :)

Grab your bike (or rent one) and coast down the mountain on this all downhill bike ride. You will be able to stop and enjoy God's amazing creation and then hop back on and coast on into Frisco for lunch, ice cream, or some shopping fun! This is for all ages and abilities!!

We truly enjoyed going through this pass as the scenery was beautiful. Even in mid May much snow is still to be seen. The forests were gorgeous with the different colors of trees. A great drive.

This is a great paved multi use path. The scenery is exceptional and awe inspiring. The only problem is tourists who do not use bike path etiquette—-meaning, stay on your side and be mindful of faster bikers trying to pass you. Summit county recently gave e-bikes the right to use these non-motorized bike paths so this could all get much worse for those who understand how bike paths are to be used.
Locals love this path so tourists—-use your regular brain not your “vacation brain” and make sure your kids and you stay to your side of the path and stay out of the way of serious bikers.

This is one of our favorite bike rides. A number of bike rental companies will haul you and your bike to the top of Vail Pass free with the rental of a bike. I've only done the ride from Vail Pass into Frisco, where the ride is mostly downhill. It takes you past Copper Mountain (you can stop and ride the chair lift to the top for great views!) and into Frisco -- a great place to stop for lunch (many wonderful shops and restaurants along Main Street). If you have the bike for the day, you can ride on trails around Lake Dillon. As an option, you can also go down on the other side of Vail Pass into Vail and on to Lionshead. If you're doing more than just riding from Vail back to return your bike, be sure to get a lock for your bike(s). Most places will include it in the rental.

We rented bikes from Alpine Sports in Breck. We were provided with helmets and a bike lock. They were great! I got a comfy path bike with multiple gears and my husband and teen sons got mountain bikes. The bike shop shuttled us to the top of the path and then we soared down for about 14 miles! We cruised through Copper and then stopped in Frisco for lunch before hitting the path again towards Breck. It’s about 9 miles to Breck, much of it up hill. They offer a shuttle pick up service in Frisco if you don’t want to bike all the way back to Breck. If you are able bodied, I encourage you to go all the way. The scenery is great and your heart and legs will thank you. The 14 miles down is a breeze and a thrill, but it’s not a workout. You do need to be careful because there are children on the path as well as others who aren’t totally confident while speeding down on a bike.

When my friends and family visit me here in Summit County, this is my go-to activity that I know everyone will enjoy. It's fun and the scenery is beautiful. Stop at the Frisco Marina for lunch to top the day off.

We rented bikes in Frisco and the fee included a van ride up to the top of the pass. The driver / tour guide was very friendly and eager to talk about the local geography and history. Even though there are many people on the trail, it is so long that the groups quickly spread out. Towards the last third we barely saw anyone. The entire trip is downhill. Make sure to ride through Copper Mountain to the ski area and shops. Also stop at the rock garden (maybe our sculpture will still be there among the dozens of creative rock formations). At the end, ride around the town of Frisco. It is a very bike friendly town.

We brought our bikes with the intent to make this one of our rides and we were not disappointed! We stopped in Copper mtn and had coffee and mini donuts with the kids. A very scenic, fun, easy ride into Frisco. We rode around a while longer in Frisco before heading back to our car. Kids LOVED this ride!

The Vail Pass path runs from Copper Mountain to Vail Pass (somewhat challenging going west and all downhill going east), and from Vail Pass to Vail (not too difficult and mostly downhill going west, but quite challenging climbing out of Vail, going east). It is a paved trail the whole way, mostly between or beside I-70 yet it isn't noisy with traffic sounds and it is a beautiful trail amid the mountain peaks, a flowing pathside creek and lots of greenery. One important thing to remember is that the trail is at altitude (8,000' Vail; 10,660' Vail Pass; 9,700' Copper Mtn) and there can be a lot of climbing if you ride the entire trail.

What a great way to see the beauty of Colorado! Staff was great right from questions about registration to final pickup at Frisco! The ride was easy and the views spectacular. You can fly down the path or take your time for stops along the way. Final stop in Frisco was fun. Lunch at Butter + Salt was spot on and a drink at the pickup spot wrapped it up nicely! Bikes were great, well worth the time and money!

This is a great ride, especially if you take a shuttle to the top and ride downhill from there :-) Vistas are amazing, you can see mountain goats on occasion and Copper Mountain at the halfway point allows for a nice lunch or break.

My mom and I used Pioneer Sports in Frisco (recommend) to rent our bikes and get shuttled to the top. The ride down is a lot of fun with wonderful scenery. The trail keeps going all the way down to Breckenridge or you can cut over to Dillon, so there are lots of miles of nice trail to keep riding after getting through the easy part.

Get an outfitter to take you to the top of the pass. They will fit you for the bikes and provide helmets and locks. The ride is almost entirely down hill and provides multiple amazing views along the way. There is also a lot of family firiendly things to do at Copper Mountain now and the prices are reasonable.

Great paved trail, all downhill. Great scenery, easy road, little congestion. Few small sections that require some pedaling. Easy for the kids who know how to steer and break. Took us slightly over an hour to come down.

Always pass through on our was to Vail. Roads were in great condition and traffic very light. Good route for traveling west.

DH and I really enjoyed the beautiful scenery on this ride! Mostly all downhill with a few spots requiring pedaling. It pretty much parallels I-70 so you will hear traffic, but it doesn't detract from the beauty of the mountains! We used Rebel sports in Frisco so when we finished the trail we continued on the Dillon trail for a while. Great time with incredible scenery!

The Vail pass at over 10,000 feet is a spectacular drive. We drove in the summer, so we had massive green trees everywhere, and patches of snow. It is just a beautiful part of the world.

About a 40 mile round trip from Breck. The inclines are dieceiving when heading back. Keep this in mind when you feel winded and that your moving slow. The Pass is not all that steep and has a few switch backs. For a rest up during the ride there is a gas station and coffee shop in Copper.

My husband and I loved this bike ride!!! We went from Vail Pass to Frisco. It was beautiful, fun and easy. We rented our bikes from Alpine Sports. Their shuttle took us up to Vail Pass and then met us at Frisco. The guys at Alpine Sports were friendly and helpful. I found a 20% off coupon in a book at a local convenience store. Excellent!!!

I think this is one of the most beautiful and fun bike paths in the country. Shuttle to Rest Area near Vail Pass and ride back down to Frisco or Breck. It's steep and twisty as you exit the parking lot, and requires caution and control. Beyond that it's a quick and fun ride. Getting through Copper Mountain area can be tricky, but just follow your common sense and you can't go too wrong!

Not much of a workout, downhill most of the way. Need to be able to manage a bike well, curves and steep downhill. Path is paved

I have ridden the bike path over Vail Pass several times from both sides. East to west is easier as it is much shorter. For flatlanders, the air is rare. For someone who is not a moderate to serious cyclist, a van ride to the top from one of the local shops and a ride on your bike down is the best way to go

This is not a ride for wimps. We started in Breck and road down hill to Frisco- piece of cake! Then the work began. When we got to Copper we were doing pretty good and decided to keep going. We were so happy we made it to the top. Coming back to Breck was down hill until Frisco- then we had to go up again. Then we limped to the hot tub!

We were vacationing at Breckenridge. We did not decide to do this bike ride until the last day of our trip. We drove into Frisco and was able to rent bike and catch shuttle to do Vail Pass. I am in my mid 50’s and found the ride to be fun and quite enjoyable! There are a few sharp and steep turns. If you approach them cautiously, there should not be any problem. The views were simply breathtaking! Pictures can’t capture the beauty of this ride!

Rented bikes at a place in Frisco and they brought us the 12 or so miles up Vail Pass and we rode back down to Frisco on a paved path. Awesome views, stopped at Copper Mountain on the way down and had a great time. Easiest bike ride ever. We had the bikes for the day so we road around part of Dillon lake and that also was flat and easy. Highly recommend. $43 a person with a web coupon that we did not have, we just had to tell them we saw it and they honored that.

My wife and I did this and it was the best thing we have done in many years. You rent your bike and helmet in Frisco. They load you up in a van and take you to the top of Vail Pass. Your trip is downhill all the way back to Frisco. The scenery is spectacular and the bike trail is like a little interstate with markings and signs. Highly recommended and you don't have to be an expert biker.

My husband and I rented bikes from Rebel Sports in Frisco, CO. They provided excellent service and were super friendly. They drove us to the starting point about 14 miles away and we biked all the way back downhill into Frisco. It was easy, incredibly fun, and great for an entire family!! The views are fabulous along the way and you can even tour through the Copper Mountain Village area as a "pit stop". You can do this trip in 90 minutes or so without stops or take all day if you stop often along the way (highly recommended!!!). We found this to be highly worth the cost of the bike rentals. So much fun and VERY easy to bike this paved trail.

We used Mountain Wave for this ride and they did an outstanding job. They gave us precise instructions on how to follow the path, showed us where to put our bikes in Frisco and catch the bus if we didn't want to ride to Breckenridge. Right away when we arrived at their store for the ride they had employees there to help fit our helmet and bike. A+ to Mountain Wave. They do fill up fast and only take 14 in the AM and 14 in the PM so book ahead.
The ride was fun to coast down and you do peddle in a couple of places. I was surprised at the amount of people riding uphill. Option to stop in Copper Mountain and places to stop along the way to take pictures.

We had ourselves and our tandem shuttled up the Vail Pass so that we could coast down. Cost for 2 plus our tandem was $54 which sounded somewhat expensive but this was to be our first bike trip in Colorado. It was a beautiful tip back down to Breckenridge.

Great experience, great views and without having to bike up the mountain ( if your bike rental place drops you off at the top:)!

We rented bikes through Alpine Sports and it was a perfect experience. The shuttle drove us to the top of the trail and we rode down to Frisco where we had lunch and then had a little extr time to ride around part of lake Dillon. It was a super fun, scenic day for us. We have two teenagers who enjoyed it. Younger kids would enjoy it as well.

We come from SoCal, rented a bike from Frisco bike shop. Van will take you up to the summit. You can cruise down 14 miles, very scenic ride downhill to Frisco. We stopped by Copper Mt Village, grab a bite, before heading back to Frisco. Highly recommend.

Even if you are a novice bike rider this is a trip you need to take! The bike renental company in Frisco will rent you a bike and take you up to the top of the pass and you simply coast down only coccasionally will you need to pedal. I am 67 yrs old and ,y wife is 68 so don't miss this trip!

Our family did the Vail Pass Bike Rental through Mountain View Sports Rentals and it was excellent! The customer service from the moment we checked-in through drop-off/pick-up was excellent! I highly recommend Mountain View Sports Rentals!

My husband and I were in Breckenridge for a few days and read about the Vail Pass Path on this site. We rented bicycles from Rebel Sports in Frisco and gave it a whirl. It was fun and amazing !! The ride is literally all downhill....so it is good for any skill level/age. The scenery is spectacular!! It took us about 3 hours to complete the trip but we stopped a LOT to take pictures, explore Copper Mountain resort, get coffee at the gas station and explore the rock garden along the river. The guys at Rebel Sports were very helpful and our driver told us about the little rock garden to be sure and stop and see. I would highly recommend this little half day trip!!

This was a great trip we booked through Alpine Sports. Take the shuttle from downtown Breckenridge and ride downhill to Fresco.

I loved this ride and would return to Vail just to experience it again. We rode downhill for a number of miles enjoying the fall weather, the aspens, the river and the mountains. Beautiful!

My wife and I booked through Mountain Wave to ride Vail Pass Path. Mountain Wave hooked us up with bikes and helmets and drove us to the top of the Pass. The ride down was a lot of fun with very little effort required. We rode all the way back to Breckenridge and the final stretch is definitely uphill, but not steep. The whole experience was good.

It is safe as long as you use common sense, and go through a great shuttle service such as Alpine Sports!! Appropriate for all ages--our group ranged in age from 12-80.

Get out early and realize that the crowds build through the day. It's MUCH, MUCH tougher coming from the west than from the east. Plus, there are more rookie downhill-only people on the Vail (west side) so avoid them. A great ride if you start from the Frisco Marina parking area.

We are staying in Beaver Creek, so we rented bikes from Venture Sports in beaver Creek and they shuttled us and our bikes to the top of Vail Pass, about 20 minutes away. We then opted for the unguided ride down Vail Pass into Vail Village, about 17 miles. It was beautiful, but a few things to note.
1) We did this in July, around 10:00 in the morning and the top of Vail's pass was COLD, probably around 50 degrees. We had sweatshirts, but I wish that I had something to cover my ears for the first 10 miles.
2) Most bike rental places also rent electric bikes. HIGHLY recommend this. We did regular bikes but wished we had done electric. Most of the path, probably 80%, was downhill, but the parts that aren't are no joke! We had to get off and walk our bikes up in a couple of places. Combine this with the altitude that we were not used to, and it was HARD. Unless you're just really wanting a good workout, do the electric bikes.
3) Bring water! There is no place to stop between top of the pass and Vail Village.
The guys at Venture Sports were great! I would recommend them if you're in Beaver Creek!

Fun!!!!! I got a bike from Alpine Sports in Brekenridge, and they had a shuttle to the top of Vail Pass. I biked from there back to the rental place. It's quite a beautiful trail the entire way down. At least the Vail Pass to Frisco is very easy (90% downhill). The ride from Frisco to Breckenridge is a slight uphill the whole way and on the day that I did it, there was a very strong headwind the whole way as well. I was glad to get back to town.

The first few miles are pretty steep for most non-cyclists, but the rest of the path is easy peasy. Stop in Frisco for some good eats then keep going to Breck for a bit of a workout. It's about a 1% grade to Breck, so it's just enough of a workout on a MTB but the kids can still make it too.

It never gets old. This is one of our MUST do’s on our yearly girls trip!! (Mid-30’s to mid-50’s). Always a wonderful experience. Make sure you give yourself time to wander around Frisco on the way down. It definitely won’t disappoint. Cute shops and plenty of establishments to wet your whistle.

We loved this. We actually did the Vail Pass and then rode from Frisco to Breckenridge for a total of 25 miles. The scenery on the Vail Pass Path was beautiful and it was fun. It was not crowded on the day we went. The only caution I would comment on is that if you bring inexperienced riders or kids, make sure that you know the rules of the road as there are many experienced bikers that use this path.

We did this ride downhill from the I-70 Rest stop with 15 riders from age 6 up to 77 and everybody had a great time. The first couple miles from the rest stop are very steep and have many sharper turns, after that the ride is considerably easier and almost entirely downhill into Frisco with some flat areas just past Copper Mountain. I would consider having riders 7 or younger do a ride-behind bike with an adult rather than be on their own unless they are very competent bike riders.
The path is separate from the road the entire way except riding through downtown Frisco and is paved and well maintained. There are a restroom or two or you can stop in Copper Mountain.
The nature and views is outstanding and breathtaking. The air often smells of the pine trees and abundant wildlife.
Hands down, by favorite summer activity in the mountains.

Really enjoyed the bike ride. Took our kids (9 & 13) and had no problem. Highly suggest this if looking to keep active and have outdoor adventures. The only disappointing thing to me was the fact that we were close enough to highway to hear traffic most of the ride. You are not by any means IN or CLOSE to traffic - just close enough to hear the highway. I would have loved to have been another 200 yards away from the highway to really feel like you were out in the woods. Overall though this is a great trip.

We had a great ride down the mountain and into Frisco on bikes. So much to see along the way. If you go in the morning, be sure to bundle up as it is a bit chilly on the ride down. Layers work great.

Im a 55 year old guy that spends a world of time outdoors in all kinds of activities, and I am totally flabbergasted as to how this is the number one attraction in Frisco. I’m guessing that most people ranking things to do rank it so high because its so so non athletic. You could do this in a wheelchair! . The most annoying thing is thr I-70 traffic noise. I come to colorado to get back to nature. The noise totally ruins any aspect of enjoyment. There is no exercise aspect at all if your coming down. Im sure i would have much preferred goin up for the exercise aspect. If you havent been on a bike in years or you just want to coast along I-70 alongside a stream then go all in. But if you come for getting into nature and away from traffic, don’t do this. If yoir a dad that has to check off an easy bike ride in the outdoors for the wife and kids then this would be the spot. But at $50 a person.... not worth it by any means.

we were in Breckenridge and Vail is an easy 40 minute drive. Fun to see, rode the Gondolas at Vail village and Lions-head village (same ticket)--takes you up ~ 2000 ft more. Great views and hiking at the top along with bikes available to ride up or just down the mountain

We train around eagle/summit counties for our century rides, Vail pass is a must do ...as often as possible

We biked down from the top of Vail Pass and I had a blast. It is a 14 mile downhill thrill ride of switchbacks and steep grades from the top of Vaill Pass all the way down to Frisco, Co. You can continue on the bike trail and bypass Frisco and ride the additional 9 miles to Breckinridge but that part has some uphill sections that might be a bit difficult if you haven't acclimated to the altitude yet. One of the highlights of my stay in Breckenridge and highly recommended to all you thrill seekers.

Part of a large network of great trails in area, the Vail Path is 13 miles of mostly downhill from the top of the pass down to Frisco. Bike companies will haul you up to the top, or you can make your own arrangements. The trail passes through Copper Mountain Ski resort where you can stop or lunch, or a break. There are some very sharp turns especially at the top, so be careful. More experienced bikers will want to take a road bike and go both ways. Weather can change very fast in the mountains, so make sure to check conditions before you head out.

This paved patch goes from Breck, to Frisco, to Copper Mtn, to Vail. Going from West to East is much easier than going from Breck westward.

We rode the Vail Pass cycle to Frisco, on to Dillon, on to Keystone & back to Frisco. We rented bikes from Mountain Wave in Breckenridge & were transported to the Vail Pass. On the way we were shown in Frisco where to lock the bikes when our ride was finished. You can ride the Pass to Frisco only which is 14 miles downhill or continue further along this beautiful paved track as we did to Dillon & Keystone. We stopped for lunch at Dillon & continued on to Keystone which is a beautiful ride around the Dillon Reservoir & along a river into Keystone Lake area. Keystone Lake was gorgeous & very scenic. I would recommend riding beyond Frisco as it was a very scenic & easy ride. The cycle from Vail Pass to Frisco was mostly downhill with little peddling required. In total we cycled approx 38 miles which was a fantastic ride. The Mountain Wave bikes were excellent, the service was great & the safety briefing was thorough. If you enjoy cycling on a dedicated paved track this is a must do. Go do it!

We rented bikes through Alpine Sports in Breckenridge (recommend) and took their shuttle to Vail Pass. Beautiful bike path through the valley, along the stream/river. easy down hill from Vail Pass to Frisco. Other reviews make it sound dangerous or too steep. I disagree, easy to keep under control. My kids are 10 and 11 - no problems even for younger kids. Get the mini-donuts at Sugar Lips in Copper Mountain as a nice 1/2 way treat. Frisco is a super cute town. It's a quick downhill ride to Frisco, so plenty of time to eat and shop in Frisco if you are catching the shuttle.
My family (again 10 and 11-year old) road all the way back to Breckenridge. There was a little bit of complaining but glad we did it. It is mostly flat, with some short up-grades. It took us 1.5 hours from Frisco to Breck. We are a pretty fit/athletic family. If you promise ice cream, they will ride!

I booked this trip the day before my ride with Breck Sports and was best decision of things to to in Breckenridge! I'd recommend the morning ride since weather is better. The views were absolutely amazing! Rode down hill to Copper Mtn where the guide leaves you on your own. Explored the resort then continued on to Frisco where ate lunch. Note: the ride from Frisco to Breckenridge is not entirely downhill it was flat with some inclines. It was definitely a workout. Stop along way to take pics!! Must do activity!

Alpine Sports shuttle took us to the top and we biked down. Amazing!!! Great scenery. Breathtaking. Recommend using Alpine Sports. Great people.

We have taken our bikes to the top of Vail Pass twice and left another vehicle at the Frisco Walmart to fetch the one at the top of Vail Pass.
The ride down is always very fun and beautiful, at least in the Summer. Not sure I would do this ride if there might be ice on the path.
There is a little peddling that needs to be done, but the ride is so worth it!

Rent your bikes in Frisco (we always use Rebel Sports) and then cruise back to town on the bike path. The scenery is spectacular, and there is a convenient stop about halfway at Copper Mountain where you can get coffee, lunch or a snack. Delightful, easy ride.

Great ride with 2400 vertical feet in 11 miles, max 8.8% gradient (short section) -- good workout! Pretty trail along I-70, along a stream and passing the Black Lakes. About 2 hours round trip.

What a fun way to get out & enjoy the views! It's seriously all downhill until you get to Frisco so it's easy enough for the whole family to do. It was so fun coasting! We continued on to Dillon & it was a little more peddling but nothing too strenuous. If you're looking for easy peasy, end your biking in Frisco.
You will need a ride to the top so when you finish you can just hop in your car & be on your way. We used Mountain View Sports in Keystone for our shuttle ride.
There is a restroom right where the trail starts and I saw a few stops along the trail too. Make sure to dress in layers as it is cold when you're cruising down and can start raining at any minute. I actually wish we would have had gloves because our hands were FREEZING!
It was a great time! Definitely do it if you're in the area.

While visiting Frisco my husband and I did the Vail Pass bike trail. It was amazing because it is all downhill so even beginner bikers can complete the trail. It is a paved bike trail and goes by beautiful lakes and flowers. We had our own bikes and caught a ride with a friend to the top and rode down. A fun ride!

My husband and I rented bikes and did the shuttle with Mountain Wave up to Vail Pass. This is a Breck must do!!! The people at Mountain Wave were awesome. We did the morning shuttle (met at shop at 8:45, started at the top around 10am) and rode all the way back to Breck (took us about 2.5 hours), was very do-able! My parents (age 70) did it the next morning, using Mountain Wave again. They were able to just do the downhill part to Frisco and leave the bikes at the coffee shop. Highly Recommend!

We rented our bikes from Mountain Sports in Breckinridge and they gave us wonderful and clear instructions. The ride is downhill but all very beautiful. If you think your a stud then ride the bike back up to bail pass.

I am not a bike rider but this was one that will make you want to start biking. The ride down in fun and the scenery is breathtaking. cannot wait to take some one else on this trip.

I wasn’t as interested in this experience as my husband was, but boy did it blow me away! I was so incredibly impressed with this ride and loved every minute of it. We rented from Mountain View Sports (they were great) and took the longer trip to Dillon. The scenery was gorgeous and the towns along the way were so cute. I would do this again in a heartbeat!

We went with Breck Sports for this adventure. They took us to the top of Vail Pass with our guide Drew. The ride was 99% down hill. We got to see some of the most beautiful scenery from a bike! It was so fun and a great adventure for two grandparents (in our sixties) with a 12 year old granddaughter!

a wonderful journey out along the trail while cruising along at your own speed to either take in the scenery, stop for photo ops, or enjoy the wind in your hair and sun on your face!!!!

This bike path down the mountains was outstanding! It was, by far, the most fun we had while in Colorado! We rented our bikes from Alpine Sports in Breck. We were able to reserve the bikes and do the “paperwork” online. The guys at Alpine were fabulous! So friendly, organized and helpful. We started our ride at 10:00 AM and were picked up in Frisco at 4:PM. This gave us time for tons of pics along the way and we had lunch in Copper. It’s an easy ride, all paved. Our 16- and 19–year-old kids loved it!

We absolutely loved the 14-mile downhill ride from Vail Pass. It was a blast to bike along the beautiful Recreational Path without having to worry about vehicular traffic. The views were sensational. Bikers were courteous, and it was easy to set your own pace.

This ride was very easy. Expect to be braking much of the way. Take your time in the beginning as the scenery is much better in the beginning of the ride. The views were really nice and it took just under 2 hours at a relative easy pace to go from the top to Vail.

We really enjoyed the ride down Vail Pass. For a family of five it is a little pricey if you have to also rent a bike but everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip and as a result we would probably do again on our next visit

A must when in Colorado! If you want gorgeous views- make the trip, you will not be disappointed! We will be back :)

Utilized a rental shop in Frisco and caught the ride to the top of the pass and then biked down. Rode on a Monday morning and it was a wonderful crisp September morning. Very pretty and fortunately not busy at all. Might have been more people coming up the mountain than going down. I am told there are several rental places in Frisco and all in the same price range for bike rentals. Will do it again and might even try going up mountain...well maybe. Great photo ops along the way.

We rented bikes from Vail Bike Tech in downtown Vail (Lionsgate). They fitted you for your bike and helmet at their shop, drove you to the top of Vail Pass, dropped you off and you bike down to the town. It is mostly downhill and is a very nice path with beautiful scenery!

If you are in Summit County, this is a trip not to be missed. You can ride this path from either side. The "East" side is a little easier. There are bike rental shops on both sides of the mountain which will rent you a bike for a reasonable price! If you don't want to pedal to the top of the pass, then simply join with one of the multiple companies which offer rides to the pass for about $25 bucks a person.
This route has a ton to see. The vistas are nothing short of incredible. Best time to ride is early spring as the snow capped peaks add plenty of drama.

We rode our bikes down the Vail Pass Path to Frisco. We only rode one way and it was almost entirely downhill. Unfortunately, we had rain/hail on the way down but that soon stopped and we were dry by the time we got to Frisco.

Downhill all the way ... if you're a tourist. From Vail Pass Summit to Copper Mountain ... watch for riders going up (lots of us do; scary watching tourists on bikes that only ride down; usually too fast!)

The trip was a lot of fun and great for all ages. Awesome way to see Copper, Frisco and Breckenridge. I have also done this as a team build with coworkers and they all enjoyed it.

We used Pioneer Sports in Frisco. $48 per person included bike, head gear and ride up. No skill set needed. We went on a Thursday and had the trail somewhat to our ourselves. Stopped and took pictures along the way. We ride into Frisco and had a great lunch at the Marina.

Shuttle up to the top and ride all the way down using gravity as your friend! Small sections of pedaling are required, mostly near Copper Mountain and approaching Frisco, but this is a mellow ride that can be done with smaller kids. We had a group ranging from 6 to 66 riding, with a 1 and 3 year old tagging along in trailers or WeeHoos. Fun for the whole family!

Great downhill ride from Vail Pass through Copper Mountain to Frisco. We used Pioneer Sports in Frisco and their staff was incredibly helpful. The first leg from the top to Copper is all downhill, and there are a few tricky spots that combine tight turns with steep downhills and drop-offs. No problem if you watch your speed, though. The leg from Copper to Frisco requires some peddling. The scenery is fantastic the entire way! Kyle from Pioneer Sports suggested riding around Frisco on the city bike paths if we had time before we had to return our bikes. We're glad we did - there was some charming park and residential scenery to explore!

The path basically follows the same course that the pros ride in the US Pro Cycling Challenge for the time trial. If you do choose to ride hard, be careful of the families on their rental cruiser bikes. The vail side is harder than the copper side. We rode from Breck over copper to vail and did the Triangle up near Leadville. A long day with lots of climbs.

My family of 4 from FT Worth TX doesn't get a chance to bike very often. We rented our bikes in Breckenridge and a van transported us and the bikes to the Vail Pass Path. We had an amazing journey down the trail with the scenery and some light rain. I wish we had packed a light snack to take a break and relax along the trail. We rode through Copper Mountain and quant Frisco to the Marina, where our driver picked us and the bikes up to take us back to Breckenridge. It was so much fun and my 13 year old son wants to do it again before we have to head back to the horrible heat of North Texas!

We walk everyday on vacation and this was a great path. Easy access from Vail Village and reasonable elevation climb for walkers. Disappointed that the majority of bike riders don't indicate 'passing on your left.' Often felt as if we were going to be run over by the speeders, who were inconsiderate of walkers. Lots of tourists with rented bikes who don't pay attention to the 'rules of the trail.' Still worth

It is all downhill to Fisco, and I think I may have pedaled 2-3 times. So if you are wondering what fitness level you need, it's a breeze when you have the bike co drop you off at the top and you pickup in Fisco!.

This ride is a must-do when you are in Summit County, Colorado. The vistas are stunningly beautiful, and the smells of fresh pine and wildflowers are abundant. There are many local bike shops that will take you up to Vail Pass, and then you ride downhill the entire way to Frisco. The typical rental fee for a bike, helmet, and transportation is around $50. You can find discount coupons in any of several local brochures. The Copper Mountain Resort is about half way down, and makes for a nice rest stop. You do not need any special bicycle skills to do this ride, however, you have to be ok with downhill speeds that can get pretty fast. There are several switchback turns in the first few miles that must be negotiated slowly and carefully. I would not recommend this ride for kids under 10. I would be concerned about their patience, and ability to control their bike at a swift downhill speed.

Riding the bike trail from Frisco to the top of Vail Pass appears daunting and it is not for the weak of heart. It’s about 15 miles one way, and it’s uphill all the way but the ride down is a real treat.

The beginning of the ride has some tight turns and is steep but can be handled by slowing down. The scenery is beautiful! We used Mountain Wave rentals and they were great! They took us through Frisco and showed us where to leave the bikes and gave us a map to show how to get through town.

This is a great activity to take when you are renting bikes and they will drive you to the top of Vail Pass so you can ride back down to Frisco. It has beautiful scenery. You can take as long or as little time as you would like while riding this path.

My husband and I loved the Vail Pass bike ride. We rented bikes and helmets in Frisco. They transported us and the bikes to the top of the pass in a van. The van driver pointed out points of interests along the way. A very easy ride with breathtaking scenery. We had all day to enjoy the ride, take pictures, stop for a snack, and lunch. Great fun for any age.

Spectacular way to see Summit County. If you can ride and handle a bike going downhill, the Vail Pass is a MUST. We used Mountain Wave in Breckenridge and they were awesome. If you drop off your bike in Frisco (recommended) and are going to take the free county shuttle back to Breck, allow for extra time and a way to get from the Breck bus stop to your resort. You will not regret going on the Vail Pass.

Make sure you and your party know the rules of bike paths before you start out on this ride. If you ride up from Copper Mt you will understand the steepness and the curves of this path. If you do the drop-off at the top - please make sure kids riding with you stay on their side of the path and know how to use brakes and how to get off the trail if they stop. It's dangerous to others if you do't know the rules, and lots of fun if you do.
Ride Safe

We rented our bikes from Alpine Sports in Breckenridge. They let us try the bikes and then shuttled us up to Vail Pass. Our driver, Danny was great. He let us know where to go and when to meet back up. They picked us up in Frisco to bring us back to Breckenridge. The ride is super easy. You will use your brakes more then pedals. The views are breathtaking. I wish we had done the morning ride (all booked by the time we reserved it) since the afternoon is an hour shorter. There was still plenty of time for the ride, we were just not able to stop for a drink and enjoy Frisco.

This was a FANTASTIC way to spend a beautiful Summit County morning. We brought our own bikes and child trailer and drove to the rest area where the trail starts. Absolutely stunning views of the mountains and beautiful stream running along side of the path. We pedaled maybe 3 times in 14 miles. Stopped for coffee in Copper Village and then continued on our way. Afterwards my wife and son had lunch in Frisco and I had Pioneer Sports take me on the shuttle back up to my car. They run a shuttle every hour for those that rent bikes there. You can pay for them to take your own bikes up as well. I wanted to do the ride again once back up to the top!

There are a number of vendors who will haul you and a bike up to the top, but for goodness' sake earn it by pedaling up. This last season was tough because a landslide blocked the path for much of the season. Contractors did a good job unblocking. I especially like the portion between Frisco and Copper, it's just gorgeous. Some expertise is needed for the down as it's a 2-way trail and you need to be safe.

Fantastic - but be mindful of speed. Family of five, youngest 13, no issues, but did witness horrific crash. This is a safe ride (it is a bike path - no cars), but people go at various and fast speeds and tourists (like us) pull over constantly to take pics. So be careful, especially when resuming the ride after a break. With that said, absolutely incredible ride with beautiful scenery and opportunity to check out Copper Mountain, Frisco and Lake Dillon. Don't kid yourself - this is not really exercise, unless you make the ride back to Breck. We used Alpine Sports - they were great.

Got to drive thru this amazing rugged area on I70 and then snowmobile also the following day. Its quite a thrill for those of us from Florida!

This bike path is a little steep in the beginning, but really flattens out to a smooth downhill ride with the most beautiful scenery around. Don't forget to stop at the little sites along the way--Copper Mountain, the rock gardens, the lake on the other side of the interstate (Admiral's Lake, I think?). Many places rent the vail pass bikes-I have used Rebel and Pioneer--both are excellent!

We have done this trip twice and it has been highlight of our vacations both times. We did this the week before Labor Day so we miss a lot of the crowds, which is really nice.
We were staying in Breckenridge and this time we decided to drive to Frisco and rent from one of the companies there. We wanted to take our time in Copper Mountain so by renting in Frisco we didn't have to rush back to catch a shuttle back to Breckenridge.
We have two girls 12 and 10 and this was not hard for them. This is a very accessible ride for all ages. The one challenge for our 10-year old was she was not used to a bike with hand brakes.
It's hard for me to do, but I recommend taking your time on the first half of the ride (up to Copper Mountain) and not to try and set any speed records. Otherwise, the trip will be over before you know it and you'll have missed a lot of great views and picture opportunities.
Copper Mountain was a lot of fun to take a break and check out all of the activities there. The conference center has a locker room with restrooms and a water filling station for your water bottles. There are lots of clean restrooms all around, but this was the only water filling station we found.
We recommend this trip to anyone who goes to the area with a few tips:
- Bring and drink water
- Pace yourself in Copper Mountain because you still have more riding to do
- Wear layers that you can take off as the day warms up or just be ok with a chill in the early part of the ride

It is a 12 mile, mostly downhill ride from the Vail Pass to Frisco. Then a 9 mile, slightly uphill ride to Breckenridge. Go in the morning since the later it gets, the more crowded it gets with families.

Our Family of 6 with 4 young adults ages 16 - 21 loved this ride! We rented bikes in Frisco through Rebel Sports and used their shuttle. The first time we stopped often to take in the amazing scenery and take pics. The kids asked to do it again the next day solely for fun and speed. They loved it! The first few miles are steep with many tight turns but we felt safe on the path and had good breaks on our bikes. Once we hit the bottom in Frisco, we kept going the 10.2 miles to Breckenridge. More challenging of a ride but very doable for all in our family.

We rented our bikes from Breckenridge Sports on Main Street and had their shuttle take us up to the Vail Pass Summit. We had a guide with us all the way from the summit down to Frisco. It is about an hour and a half, 14 miles, mostly downhill, and a completely paved path with beautiful views. Once we got to Frisco, our guide gave us the option to go back to Breck with him and the shuttle or to do a flat, 10 mile bike ride all the way back to Breck (using the same path). We chose to bike back and it took about an hour for the two of us to do the bike ride. It was tiring at the end but 100% worth it! Would definitely recommend even doing just the Vail Pass with family or friends.

hiked with my family and friends and two dogs to see wonderful wildflowers and incredibly scenic vistas. got to see and touch snow in July.

My wife and I did the round trip from Breckenridge to Vail Pass, and then back to Breckenridge with our own (mountain-)bikes. This is about 46miles of biking at 9,000-11,000 feet, so maybe not something you want to do right after you arrived here from sea level.... With breaks I would give this 4 hours for the round trip - the most painful part for us was to bike back up to the house in Breckenridge as it's way up above town (and steep), whereas the well maintained bike path to Vail Summit is more gradual in nature. If you are in for the scenery, rather than the workout - take one of the many shuttle services and have them drop you at the parking lot up top. We found the temperatures to shift quickly - I advise to bring layers and something waterproof....we found out the hard way that our rain gear wasn't meant for rain and the descent to Frisco (not much pedaling at all) was pretty cold being wet. We compliment Breckenridge and the communities around for building and maintaining this amazing network of biking paths. If you haven't done so already, also look into the bike path around the reservoir (Frisco). If you rent bikes and you intend to do the climb: you don't need mountain bikes and you are much better off without their wide tires that create lots of friction.

This is a very well designed trail which I highly recommend. Most people bike just downhill, but the up and downhill ride from Frisco to Vail (28 miles total) was worth the time, energy burned, and expense (bike rental). (The bike shop in Frisco next to the Walmart was excellent for that, btw). If they could only put up a little barrier (and clean off the gravel) between the short downhill section from the top of the pass (headed toward Vail) that goes right by the highway.

This path runs between Copper Mountain Resort and Vail. It parallels I-70 for the most part, but runs in an out of the woods as it climbs steadily to the top of Vail Pass (about 11,000 feet altitude MSL). The grade from Vail east to Copper Mountain is much steeper than the meandering path west from Copper. Don’t attempt either route as a climb until you’ve acclimated yourself to the thin air. The views are spectacular, and if you enjoy speed on a bicycle, you probably can get up to 50 mph downhill headed into Vail. A substantial effort, but well worth it. A round trip will take most of the day, and I’d recommend heading east first, eating lunch in Frisco or Copper Mountain, and then returning to Vail.

It has been a few years since I last did this ride, but it is an easy ride from the top of Vail Pass into Frisco Colorado. You can continue into Breckenridge but it is a more difficult ride. Most bike rental places will pick up your ride in Frisco. This is definitely a summer activity.

We did this bike ride on our first day of vacation. Mostly downhill, so really for riders of all levels, as long as you know where the brakes are! My oldest son kept saying the scenery was so beautiful that it didn't even look real, "just like Splash Mountain at Disney World!".

Wonderful bike ride! Must do it... all down hill and nice path. Great family activity and beautiful scenery.

Great bike ride for the family - amazing scenery. Easy ride - generally downhill all the way. Stop for lunch along the way at Copper Mountain.

We used Alpine Sports to rent the bikes and provide transportation up to Vail Pass. It is a very casual, easy ride down all the way to Frisco. It requires very little pedaling, so even the young children can handle it.

The ride up/down vail pass on the rec path is a must do activity in the summer/fall. Breckenridge to Vail pass and back is 43 miles on a separate bike path all the way there (and back) - it goes via Frisco and Copper. There are also a bunch of cycle rental shops that as well as renting a bike will haul you to the top of vail pass and you just ride down hill. The down hill only is suitable for even novice cyclists- just need to be able to brake :-)
For the more adventurous Breckenridge to Vail and back is ~ 75 miles with a 5000 foot elevation gain.
I have done cycled Vail pass multiple times and highly recommend it - The other ride to consider is the Dillion lake loop - 30 mile loop from Breckenridge

Pros:
Family of 4, kids ages 13 and 10
Easy
Paved ride
Great views
Highly recommend Mountain Wave company. Great service. Found them on Yelp. Called Christy's, Breck sports, Alpine Sports.. they were left expensive, great location, very efficient .
Go at your own pace
Stopped on Copper Mountain, had lunch, did different activities for the kids at the resort.
Cons:
Local riders do not like tourists along the path
Most the ride is downhill, ..if you are looking for a workout, choose something else
Most of the ride you are parallel to hwy, ....so noise and cars a factor (didn't like seeing the cars the whole time)

Coasting through meadows, alongside a mountain stream with waterfalls, stunning views and more - what an experience! This isn't exercise, it's more relaxing than that.
Take your time, stop often to enjoy the views. Pack snacks or a lunch and chill! We did this on our second day in Colorado - we hadn't yet acclimated enough to hike but this was the perfect way to experience the Rockies while our lungs were still getting used to the oxygen levels. Take lots of pictures!

Wife and I were looking foward to doing the Vail Pass shuttle and bike ride. She fell and fractured her shoulder. She can't be on a bike now because of the pressure and position you have when holding the handle bars and a fall would be catastrophic. I was wondering if there are bike shops that might rent one of those old lady tricyles or those bikes you see where the seat is almost on the ground and the pedals are elevated in the front? Or can you park along the path and take short scenic walks if there are no other options? Anyone have any suggestions?

Riding up to the top of Vail Pass from Frisco is a lot of fun if you are fit and used to the altitude, but climbing up nearly 1500' is no joke. There are several shuttle companies that will bring you to the top for a more leisurely ride down, but even that can be challenging. It is possible to hit speeds over 40mph on a bike, and you will probably encounter other path users going that fast, so you should be careful. Weather can also move in quickly.
If you are riding back to Breckenridge after coming down Ten Mile Canyon, keep in mind it is uphill, and will take longer than you think.

We did the off road the day before and really wondered if we wanted to do another trip. We are glad we did. The drive was Easy with wonderful sites and towns to stop in. Vail was a nice drive through to see the homes with wonderfull trees and colors as well. Glad we did not miss it.

After visiting Summit County for several years, we finally decided to tackle the downhill Vail Pass Bicyle ride. First...there is no tackling. It is sublime coasting downhill several miles as you enjoy a running stream and killer views. Sure the 70 is next to you, but you forget about it as you enjoy the stellar views. We took my 70-year-old father-in-law and our 9-year old down. They did just fine. The first part goes from the top of Vail Pass to Copper Mountain Resort. The temptaton is to go fast (because it's fun), but pull over (off the path of course, or you will get reprimanded from one of the locals) and take some photos. As you enter Copper, either pedal through, or stop for lunch. We went through b/c we were on a schedule. After you leave Copper, cross the highway and rejoin the path for a gentle downhill ride. Spectacular views of 12,000 and 13,000 ft high peaks through Ten Mile Canyon. Stop for a picture or two at the streams/ponds. Right as you get going (or maybe 25 minutes of easy pedaling) you can pull over to Main Street in Frisco. This is another Must Do in Colorado. The only caveat: You do need to watch out for regulars flying past you....most are courteous and say "on your left." Can't wait for next year. BTW...we hauled our bikes from Calif and had a driver drop us off, so I don't have recommendations on companies that shuttle you or rent bikes.

This is a stunning downhill paved ride that you will want to do again immediately. From the trailhead to Copper is steep, winding, and uncomfortable for unskilled riders. From Copper to Frisco is cake. Be aware that you will need both hands on your brakes and be unable to physically "guide" kids. Be ready to yield often. Enjoy!

We rent bikes and ride the Vail Pass to Frisco each time we are in Breckenridge. Always a great time; just a beautiful bike trail !!!

Please,..... getting a ride to the top and then sitting on the bike as it goes downhill , is NOT biking. " easy, fun, ride" was a 'review'?? Good Grief. You earn a downhill, by BIKING up to the top and then riding down. The pass , approached from Copper or from Vail is a wonderful and challenging ride, but can be done with some training and acclimation. You will feel much better having done this ride.

Fantastic.Alpine Sports is the place to go.Friendly and helpful staff.Bikes are in great shape.Scenery is awesome

This was a fun and easy ride from the summit of I-70 between Copper Mountain and Vail back to Frisco. It is an easy ride, literally all downhill and a fun family oriented activity. The bike trail system in the CO mountains is absolutely amazing and this is just a fun and easy stretch. We were shuttled to the top of the mountain by the folks we rented the bike from. Personally, renting a road bike and adding the challenge of up and over the mountains would be the way to go next time we are out that way.

Excellent ride! There are hairpin turns and switchbacks that can be somewhat scary but on the whole, this is an excellent trail for novice and professionals alike.

My wife have ridden this on a tandem bike twice---- wonderful - beautiful--- but is rather steep-- at this altitude takes a lot of wind--- thing to do is rent a bike and ride down --- be safe as it is fast going down and you can ride into Frisco-- just beautiful------ ride around the lake also--- nothing like it,
hard surfaced roads for your roadbike--- mountain bike works great too

Highly recommend this as it has been the highlight of our trip so far. Used Alpine Sports who was very efficient getting us checked in, registered and set up with our bikes.
30 minute can trip to the mountain and then you get to ride down on your own. Amazing views, paved path the whole way down. Took my 15 and 13 year old boys. My daughter who was younger stayed back as we were apprehensive of the steepness of the bike trip. Wish she went with as she could have easily done this.

I took my own bike and did this twice. The first time my wife dropped me off at the rest area at Vail Pass, and I rode the trail back to our Condo in Breckenridge. It was about 23 miles (1 hr 20 min), mostly downhill and I found it to be very easy. From Frisco to Breck is uphill, but it was long and gradual. I bike 2 or 3 times a week, so it would have been more difficult for someone who doesn't regularly bike.
The 2nd time I rode round trip from Breck to Vail Pass, and then back to Breck. This was 45 miles round trip (3 hrs), and much more difficult. I climbed from Frisco until Vail Pass, and it was the most climbing that I have ever done (I'm from Oklahoma); however, it was the best bike ride of my life. The scenery is beautiful and it was very gratifying to climb a mountain for the first time. It actually wasn't as difficult as I expected, and I can't wait to go back and try it again. It's going to be hard to ride in OK again, because we don't quite have the scenery that I experienced in Colorado :-)

Dropped family at exit 190. Met up for snacks at 195. Met them at the bottom. Exit 200. Can take 45 minutes or all day depending how long you spend along the way

Rent from one of the local adventure shops that take you to the top of Vail Pass and take the ride downhill tp Frisco. At the end, enjoy a meal or brew from one of the local eateries.

So you've just arrived and the altitude has got not at 100% energy? Take this trip down the Vail Pass Path and enjoy the beautiful mountains, streams and views, while controlling decent by applying brakes generously! We rented from Rebel in Frisco and they were fantastic. 24 hour rental and trip to the trail head included for less than $50 a person. Excellent equipment and tips on what to see and how to take the trail down. Trail runs by Copper Mountain and there is also a gas station to get a cup of Joe or use the resttooms. Highly recommend. Not sure how the fat tire bikes would do in the snow, but think it would be a lot of fun. Took us over 2 hours for decent becasue we took a lot of photos, but you can do it in about 1 1/2 hours. Fun and breathtaking too!

You can either earn your ride by riding from Frisco through Copper Mountain and up Vail Pass on bicycle OR you can take a shuttle service up to the summit of Vail Pass and essentially coast down. If you are in good shape and used to the altitude, the earn route is perfect - you get a little sweaty and out of breath and the legs complain a bit, but it's a reasonable ride really. If you are into it for the views and exhilaration only, go the start at the top and coast down route. Both are fun - it just depends on if you want to burn calories and build muscle in the process or not. The Vail side is very long - think twice before coasting down to Vail if you need to ride back up to the pass - it's 14 miles of continuous uphill - a bit of a grind.

We rented bikes in Frisco(Rebel Sports) and they took us up to Vail Pass Path. The ride was easy and beautiful. We stopped at Copper Mountain Resort on our way down. I recommend taking your time and packing a lunch to enjoy along the way or eat at Copper Mountain. You could speed down in 2 hours or take your time and spend 3-4 hours out. We keep the bikes once we arrived in Frisco and took the bike path toward Dillon for a while before turning back around. We did get yelled at by a local driver that we are supposed to get off the bikes to cross the road (it is not a rule where we live) Overall, Great ride!

Fantastic bike trail. Very, very scenic and a very good distance from the road (which is I-70). Sometimes you can't even see it.

this is a great way to spend a half day. drop down from Vail pass and explore all the way into Frisco. Last two times we have been in the area we have done this. we packed a lunch last time and had a nice picnic along the way

spectacular scenery to enjoy on a bike ride down a well maintained paved trail going either West to Vail or East to Frisco. Good photo and picnic spots to enjoy. Very popular trail so important to obey safety rules.

Amazing Amazing ride thru Vail Pass. Weather was perfect. I’d suggest morning rides vs afternoon re temps. Either way you can’t go wrong. Can’t come here and not do this. I would highly recommend Mountain Wave Bike Rentals in downtown. Amazing service and attitude. A+++ for Both!!

I did this just this weekend and it was a blast! Get the shuttle from Alpine Sports and take the 30 minute (scenic) drive up the hill. We caught it from the Alpine Sports near City Market.
It is a 14 mile ride down. Basically no uphill. End the trip in Frisco at the tiki bar at the marina with a pina colada.
I’d recommend this to any Breck visitors.

We are older ladies and totally enjoyed the ride. Alpine Sports provided great bikes and helpful staff

We rented bikes from Mountainview sports. My daughter and son-in-law have done this bike ride once before and loved it. Although I am not a bike rider, I was excited for this trip! The beginning of the trail is a little steep and curvy for a beginner bike rider like myself because my balance on a bike is not like it used to be when I was younger. We were told some people walk their bikes down this section, which I ended up doing for a couple of reasons. The trail is a usual narrow bike trail and edge of the trail is not level with the ground in some spots. So I felt like one little turn to the right while trying to keep my balance and I was going to fall off my bike. No one else seemed to mind this but I was unnerved by it. Once we got past this first section, it was a nice, easy ride. Secondly, the "tour de france" riders as we called them, come whizzing by you on the left and do not yell "on the left" to warn you they are coming. I wasn't aware of this and the first one that passed me, scared the heck out of me. It took me a few minutes of sitting on side of the trail to calm myself down. Again, I am not a bike rider by any stretch so that was part of the problem. Once, I got used to things, the ride was easier and so beautiful! I am glad we did it!

The views were stunning on this super easy ride. Make sure you have good brakes! There are plenty of places to stop and picnic or to play in an alpine lake or creek. We didn't want it to end!

Husband and friend did this on recumbent tricycles and they both had a great time and no one crashed...very popular as many bikes are shuttled up there..about 11 miles from Breck..

I ended up dropping pur family off at the top with 4 bikes. Exit 190 off of I-70. Drove back to Frisco marina and used a bike rental place to catch a shuttle to the top. The ride down was so fun. 1st half is all coast. Pretty quick. After Copper there is a little peddling but it doesn't last too long. Then back down hill. Beautiful stops along the way if you can make yourself stop. :-). Finished w lunch in Frisco. 90 min total for us.

We took a shuttle to do the Vail Pass Path and it was a lot of fun and all downhill. We rented bikes in Frisco and a shuttle drove us up so we could just coast down and take in the views. It would diffinetly be a hard pedal if you were going the other way and there were a lot of people using this bike path so you need to pay attention.

An unforgettable experience! The best place to enjoy the beautiful wather of this season. I loved their mountains cover by the snow.
Don´t forget your camera so you capture the beathy of the place.

Ok I'm writing this from a perspective of starting in Breckenridge. We used Alpine Sports. There are other team places in other towns. Alpine set us up with great bikes, made sure they fit, safety video etc. Hauled us to the summit and picked us up in Frisco. Couldn't ask for better accommodations. Now for the trip. You're crazy if you don't do this. Beauty, fun, sense is freedom etc. My wife hadn't been in a bike in 47 years .. back in banana seats, pedal brakes and one speed. She did fine. Did I say do this. It was a great great day.

Vail Pass has one of the finest paved bicycle trails in Colorado. Be warned that the last four miles of the trail into Vail is actually the old highway and you will encounter cars. Once on the bike path you will only meet other cyclists and hikers. There are a couple of ways to do the pass. The easiest is to have a family member drop you off at the summit of Vail Pass with your bicycle and then you coast down, riding the brakes all the way. You can coast to either Vail or Copper Mountain and Frisco. For those ready for a bigger adventure, start in Vail, ride to Copper Mountain or Frisco, then ride back. Or start at the other end and ride to Vail and back. Be warned that there is no mechanical service available on the path itself. There are bike shops in all the towns, but on the trail you are on your own. I will always stop and help people get going after a flat or breakdown, but if I'm not there, you had better have some tools available and know what you are doing. If you are on a guided tour, then the guide will take care of all that stuff. Just remember, if the bike breaks, you walk back. The scenery is beautiful. One negative to riding the pass, you will be next to Interstate 70 quite a bit on the Vail side of the pass. Be aware that when the bike trail opens in the early spring, all the gravel the highway department spread on the interstate during the winter is now on the bike path. Trail equipment does sweep the trail occasionally, but any rainstorm will wash more gravel back onto the surface. Watch your speed on the descent. Watch the temperature in your braking components. I have had glue on my sewups soften and the tire begin to roll on the rim.....not good. If you come around a blind corner to fast and cross the center line, there is a good chance you will have a head on collision with a cyclist coming up the pass. So, other than staying alert and being prepared (it does rain in the mountains at times) have a great time pedaling around on Vail Pass. See you at Pepi's for lunch. Cheers.

My wife and I rented bikes from Alpine Sports in Breckenridge. They were really good, and provided excellent instructions about the activity. We did the 14 mile downhill run. It was mostly nice, but you do parallel the highway for various periods of time. It is paved the entire way and for the most part has very good signage. It goes thorough Copper Village and ends in Frisco. You can stop and grab a bite or a drink at either place. There is a free bus that can take you back to Breckenridge if that is where you started, or your rental company can pick you up. We thought this was a real "mountain bike" event, like going up the mountain with your bike in a gondola and riding down, but this is NOT that. This is smooth and easy riding. Good for kids and adults. You just have to watch out for the "serious" riders that can zip past you without much warning (likely with disdain for us tourists).

Alpine Sports was very helpful in renting bikes and gear and taking us and our bikes up to the top of the pass in Vail. Fall colors made this trip exceptional. Go slow, stop often for pictures as you have plenty of time. Very easy ride into Frisco. Frisco is a charming town... had ice cream there but lots of great restaurants. We decided to not take the shuttle back to Breckinridge and to ride the 9 miles back. It is beautiful too but gently uphill and a headwind. This 56 year old made the extra ride just fine but it is gently uphill. This part is totally optional though.
Riding through the aspens and all the fall colors was spectacular. Might even do this again!

Love this ride! The down hill is steep so it's not for the "have not been on a bike in 20 years", but it is a great ride for all levels. See the mountain range, ride by the pines, a great creek along the way, then into Vail! The path takes. you along the golf course and by some of the most incredible homes in Vail. The last half is easy and a great ride for everyone!
I recommend taking a mid morning shuttle on Sunday and ending back in Vail for lunch at the Vail Market!

This is a family event for us. Going to Vail Pass with Alpine Sports in charge lets you enjoy the ride. The safety talk is helpful. There is a quick video that goes over riding rules. The bikes are in pristine condition. I'd ride with Alpine sports any day.

We went through Alpine Sports in Frisco. Great group of guys.
The bike ride down the mountain was very easy. The view was incredible. We stopped off a few times along the way to just soak in the scenery. We had lunch and a cold beer at Moosejaw to end the day.
5 stars because it is perfect for everyone.

Vail pass was our first planned activity on our trip to Breck and it was a great first activity because of its ease and beautiful sites along the way. Our driver, Daniel, who drove us to our starting point was funny and personable! He pointed out different areas we would be riding by on our ride back to Frisco and his recommendations on places to check out were great!

This was one of our highlights, group of 8 adults 24-57, everyone loved it. An easy ride down, minimal actual pedaling. We did the morning ride through mountainsports in Keystone. They get you set up on bikes, shuttle you up, give you the map of where to to and pick you up 3-4 hours later. Reserve in advance. Wonderful views, Frisco was really nice to spend some time. Highly recommended.

My family of 4 bicycled the Vail Pass path and thought it was absolutely amazing!! Almost any age/ability will be able to bike this path, my sons were 12 and 8. Path take you through Copper Mountain and town of Frisco, both fun places to visit. The views are simply stunning and beautiful. Path runs along waterway and is paved the entire path. Highly recommend for a unique view of Colorado!

What a great ride down Vail Pass.
We used Mountain Wave for our rentals and shuttle service, and would highly recommend them.
They where all so helpful, and safety oriented, a really great company.
My wife and I really enjoyed the cruise in to Frisco. I wanted to keep going in to Breckenridge, but wife was not up for a 10 mile ride, with some possible head winds and hills.
The ride to Frisco is a breeze, anyone can do it.
Take your time, stop along the way, and enjoy it.

While this can be a little pricey on a rental ($45 or so per person) it is well worth it. The ride down is not hard at all and there is beautiful scenery all around. Defintely stop in Copper Mountain for a break (or meal.)

Very quick and easy biking trip from the top. The serious riders will pass you on their way up! Colorado beauty from an eyes view.

This is a downhill free-wheel that takes in some great scenery. However, it takes no effort at all, so add a cycle home or an extra loop to burn some calories.

We have done this ride several times over the years. Jaw-droppingly beautiful. Always stop at Sugar Lips in Copper for mini donuts and coffee on the way back to reward ourselves :-)

I've been doing this for years. Somehow it get's a little harder each year. There has been an explosion of downhill riders on rental bikes than get dropped off at the top, but this review is for folks with their own bikes and transportation. I usually start at Copper Mountain and end at East Vail. That way you get to enjoy what is perhaps the best car-free downhill in the state. These days I get passed up by more and more e-bikes on the way up, but blow past them on the descent. Depending on your chauffeur arrangements you might want to ride all the way to Garfinkel's in Lionshead.

What a fun ride from Breckenridge to Frisco!!! The place we rented was a block from the trail and I biked it ever day of our trip. One of the most beautiful bike trails I have ever done. For the avid cyclist bike down to Frisco, around the lake, over Swan Mountain, and back to Breckenridge. For those who just want to enjoy a pleasure ride, rent bikes from a local shop in Breckenridge who offer pickup service down in Frisco. That way its pretty much down hill the whole route and you can catch a ride back to Breckenridge.

I highly recommend this ride for families. My husband and I are experienced mountain bikers although don't get out too much these days. Our boys, 11 and 9, are getting good at mountain biking but lack endurance. So, this was the PERFECT ride.
The ride is all downhill and requires no skills other than the ability to pull the breaks and slow down around the corners. The scenery was fantastic with babbling brooks, roaring rivers, old mines, pikas, squirrels, ducks, fisherman and more. The I-70 traffic was not at all a bother.
We rented from Alpine Sports in Breckenridge and got a ride to the top of Vail pass. The kids and I road down to Frisco in about 90 minutes and got picked up there. My husband continued riding from Frisco to Breck which was a bit challenging as it is all uphill.

Took a guided bike ride from Breck's Sports down the Vail Pass and enjoyed every second. Our guide was awesome was friendly and knowledgable of the area.

We hired bikes and were driven up to the top of the pass. We then followed the path down to the bottom of the valley and then up to Breckinridge. The path is very well maintained and the mountain views can be described only as stupendous. I am really glad to have done what has been one of the bike rides of my life.
I in fact did this ride four years ago in August 2014, but the system will only let me put in a more recent date - apologies

My husband and 15 and 13 year old did the Vail Pass ride last July and loved it. They said it was a great ride for all skill levels. They definitely want to do the ride again when we are in the area.

Great experience- riding a bicycle in this altitude is not easy, it certainly test your endurance but it is a lot of fun.

The ride down Vail Pass is beautiful and fun and low impact, perfect for a family experience. We had a group of eight and everyone had a great time, although some were bored of coasting toward the end. If you want a bit more work, ride up the pass and then back down instead of taking the shuttle up. Either way, the views are gorgeous and the chance to experience the beauty of Colorado should not be missed.

Any skill level can do this ride and it is so much fun! One of our favorite things we did while in Breck!

My wife and I rode our bikes from Breckenridge up to Vail pass. Nice to be able to stop at Frisco and Copper Mountain if needed. Coming back down the mountain has great views and easy ride. Even though you are next to the interstate you feel that you are miles away. Stopped at Frisco on the way back and had lunch. Recommend this to families.

My boyfriend and I rented our bikes through Breck Sports on Main Street and were fortunate enough to be the only customers on our specific trip. We paid $60 for the bike rental, bike haul to the starting point, a guide to accompany us along the way. The value of this trip was incredible. The downhill ride is breathtaking and just a perfect way to being active, in a relaxed way, while being able to soak in the amazing beauty that Breckenridge and Frisco offer. The 14 mile ride took us about 2 hours, which was perfect for our ONE afternoon spent in Breckenridge. Because of the downhill nature of the ride I would recommend this to anyone of all ages. YOU WON'T REGRET THIS!

Such a nice ride doing it again today ,excellent bikes from Rebel Bike Rental . Very easy hardly had to peddle at all, lots of great picture stops along the way.

We used Breckenridge Sports to rent our bikes and get our transportation to and from Vail Pass Trail. We had a morning ride, with 6 of us going. We met at the Breck Sports office on Main Street. We were measured and given a helmet and a bike. The bikes were loaded into a trailer and we climbed into a van.
The Van went to Frisco to the Breeze Sports where we picked up a guide, Mandy. She was knowledgeable of the area and explained how things would go. She would ride in the back to make sure everyone okay and no first aid or bike repairs needed. She explained we could stop in Copper Mountain on the way down to have lunch if we liked. We arrived at the pass, our bikes were unloaded.
We started the trip down, it is just beautiful. It is really just about all downhill. There is one switch back that is a little tricky, and a couple of other sharp turns. But all in all an easy trip, WITH INCREDIBLE VIEWS. We did stop in Copper Mountain for lunch. Our guide told us which way to go to make it to one of the restaurants. She told us she would be headed back to Frisco to the Breeze store. She gave us some verbal directions to get back. I tipped her and she left. We had an enjoyable lunch of pizza and beer. Then we started out trip again back to Frisco.
Once we got to Frisco, things got sketchy. There are no signs to get you back to the Breeze store. A lot of traffic and we were not sure we were going to right way. We really needed our guide, but she had left us in Copper Mountain.
We struggled to get to the store, one person fell of the bike at a busy intersection and needed some first aid. We made it back to Breeze finally to get our ride back to Breckenridge. We told them of our problems, and the guide there said we had left the tour when we went to lunch. She had never mentioned to us when she told us about lunch that "we were leaving the tour". Our group were the only ones "on the tour". That advice to grab lunch really made getting back difficult. And to top it off, we asked for our ride back to Breckenridge, and they told us the van was gone. We should take the public transportation back to Breckenridge. WHAT? Were told "we left the tour" so the transportation was gone. If we did want to wait, it would be a minimum of 30 minutes for the van. We did the quarter mile hike to the Frisco Transfer Station and took the bus back. It made about 8 stops, it was not very fast.
The experience of using Breckenridge Sports and the terrible advice to have lunch really dampened the great experience of the ride down the pass itself. Mandy should have told us having lunch would be the end of the tour. The trip itself is really a must do, but make sure you know "the rules of the tour".

I rode with friends form Breckenridge into Vail over the Vail Pass Path. Coming from California, I'm blown away by the network of recreational paths that Colorado offers. This one had some elevation gain, but it was pretty easy until it got steeper at the summit. I recommend giving it a try--the downhill into Vail is amazing.

This was one of our favorite experiences while staying in Breckenridge in the summer. It was well worth the cost. You can go at your own pace and it is 90% downhill so anyone can participate.

My favorite path to bike every summer. The streams, wild flowers and animals are beautiful. It's steepest near Vail and curves a bit however the path is well marked and paved. If you are a serious road bicyclist - start before the tourists at Day break otherwise you could find yourself with a lot of beginner bicyclists that just stop on the path with no signal or some other shenanigan.

Our family of six (kids' ages 7-14) enjoyed this bike down Vail Pass tremendously! Miles of beautiful scenery and easy for our whole family!

WE used Breck Sports for this and Reece was our guide. Great group getting us set up on the bikes and taking us up the mountain. 15 mile ride down the mountain on paved paths. We were encouraged to stop a lot and take in the scenery and take pictures. Anyone that can ride a bike can do this. We ended up in Frisco and they will take you and your bike back to Breckenridge. or you can have lunch and then continued the ride back to Breckenridge. This is 9 miles and you need to ride this part...it is not coasting down a mountain so be sure you can do it.

We rented bikes in Breckenridge and rode to Frisco. After riding halfway around the lake, we rode the shuttle to the Vail Pass. It was a beautiful, fast ride down the mountain. The staff's hints were very helpful. Some parts of the path were hard to follow in Copper Mountain because of construction but overall an awesome experience!

This is a must-do if you're in Frisco or Breckenridge. We rented our bikes from Pioneer Sports, and they'll fit you to your bike and load them up on the trailer and take you to the top of Vail Pass. Don't worry about pedaling too much, because basically you're going to be putting the brakes on most of the way down! But, don't rush it because there are plenty of places to stop and take a picture, or just relax. It's a beautiful ride, and one you won't want to miss. Towards the bottom, you'll pass through Copper Village, and then go on into the town of Frisco a short distance later. Ride into and around Frisco to explore the town, and grab lunch or dinner. For a longer ride, you can cross Hwy 9 and take the path around Dillon lake which is another amazing trip on the bicycle. Don't miss it!

You can't best the vail pass bike path, especially for a great workout, combine this with the summit rec pass and yyou can go over 50 miles from Keystone all the way to Vail and around the lake to Breckenridge

Rented bikes and got a shuttle from Alpine sports. It was an awesome afternoon. The ride was perfect for my 12 and 10-year-old boys and my wife. The scenery is amazing. Very highly recommend.

This has got to be the only ride of its kind in the US. Nearly 1700' decent over 12 miles with only '37' of ascent. Great scenery and a nice route to stop in Copper Mountain or Frisco. Easy for any age or ability, 2-3 hours without pedaling!

If you are out in non snow months this is a MUST DO yes for non avid bikers it’s all down hill hardly have to petal ever gorgeous views and tons of great photos

have been riding this since it first opened. rode it in 79 when it was still gravel at the top.has gotten progressivly more dangerous since the 90's would not consider it any more out of control riders and all over the road going up have no clue as to how to gear down or ride hills. would prefer the highway but go chased off of it too many times by colorado state patrol. no sign comming off of fremont pass that banned cyclists from going past copper mountain. much less traffic but CSP does not like it.....

Local bike shops in Frisco will rent you a bike/helmet and shuttle you up to Vail Pass (which is nothing more than a highway pull-off, not Vail itself). The ride is all downhill from there and winds through Copper Mountain resort. Wild raspberries grow along the trail and sampling a few only made the trip more special. We stopped in downtown Frisco for lunch before returning the bikes.
Absolutely gorgeous
This is a great place to walk (or especially) ride a bike down the mountain. The scenery is just awesome, following a stream down the mountain to Frisco. Towering peaks surround you in every direction. The trail itself is paved and (especially when you're going down hill) is a really easy ride/coast. If you're really fit, you can ride UP to the summit and back, but we were towing small kids when we rode, so we elected to coast down from the summit to Frisco.
