Great way to see some scenery that friends can do together. We did it on a Sunday morning & we're done before lunch so we stopped by the Sunday Farmers market in Vail Village and could've kept bikes all afternoon. This bike ride is great regardless of the physical shape your in. There's some spots where you will have to bike uphill a little but it's mainly downhill and easy riding. The entire trail is paved.

A nice wide path to walk along the river on the Mountain side of Vail. You can cut into different parts of Vail village along the path.

By markc871 |

Great running path along all of Vail, even with the snow. Right outside our condo. Got in a good run.

By Cindy T |

Very scenic - followed a creek for many miles. We wish there was a water fountain and/or bathroom, however. Everything seemed to be temporarily closed (mid-May).

By heathernwood1 |

Awesome e-bike ride and we experienced during the fall when the Aspen were golden yellow...absolutely beautiful

By Jim F |

Quiet, beautiful, great change from the busy shopping and restaurants in Vail Village. Liked the constant sound of the water and the wind.

By RituandTim |

Such a charming and quaint area. This walk offers views of the mountains with the raging river in the foreground. Its quite lovely and not too time consuming. If you can take a walk...its lovely!

By Susana V |

We went with a gropu of bikes and children and we had a very good time !! we would walk back and forth from our hotel to the senter, and the kids loved playing in the creec, very pretty and colorful walk !

By vacatongal |

THe path is easy to follow, very peaceful. It was a great way for a sealubber like me to acclimatize to the altitude! I walked it every day.

By Irina V |

This is one of the favorite places in Vail. You can walk, ride a bike or jog. Do not forget your camera, you will have a lot of stunning views to take pictures and to enjoy looking at them later.

By Nicole F |

I used this trail to get from my hotel to both Lionshead and the main village. Very nice alternative to taking the car or the bus. Walk was pretty easy and the views were nice.

By Kimberly C |

This was an exceptionally fun 18 mile bike ride, most of which was down hill. Our tour guide took us to the top of the summit trail and pointed us down hill towards Vail. It took about 2 hours to complete the journey, with stops along the way to check out the beautiful scenery. The weather was a perfect 72 degrees and fall was in the air so it could not have been any better. I think this was the highlight of our trip. The trail traverses through the aspens, along the road and through a golf course area and into the picturesque town of Vail. We did overshoot the stopping point and found ourselves following the trail which keep going past Avon so we did have to turn around and go back up hill with our bikes at 9000 feet which was a challenge. We just got so caught up in the beautiful scenery and well maintained trails that we went too far, but it was still fun anyway. I would definitely recommend this trail and would do,it a again in a heartbeat.

What a nice way to experience Vail. The path is well maintained and scenic. We walked it , but shared the path with many bicyclists. Don't miss it if you are in Vail.

By abcdefghijk45953 |

The path is safe and well marked and leads to happiness and good health, for staying in Vail, one expects to be active and to participate in exercise.

By BH2O |

This is a must do activity. The path is next to the river. So there are great views all along the path.

By Wayne H |

This trail unites all of Vail. Walk to the ski slopes and gondolas. Then the trail goes along the peaceful Gore Creek before it takes you right into the Village. If you head to the west, you can walk or bike all the way to Avon, several miles away.

By HotGamerGrrl |

We really enjoyed all of our Vail nature walks along the rec path. Clean with some access to Gore creek along the way. Definitely the highlight of our trip.

By karen f |

Stroll from the Golf Course all the way to Lionshead along the creek. Inhale the scent of pine and mountain air. This is a leisure activity - if you wish to bike, rollerblade, run or otherwise work out, choose another path unless you are highly proficient at people slalom..........

By Vickie C |

So much fun biking down Vail Pass into the village. Only scary part is when the trail runs along the Interstate for a mile or so, if you are riding with children be prepared to be freaked out a bit. Otherwise, great adventurous ride that becomes a lovely path through beautiful neighborhoods.

By kabreezy11 |

We vowed on our vacation we would walk everyday. The recreation path offered us relaxation and scenic beauty. We always went early in the morning and occasionally met up with other walkers, bike riders and runners. Truly a photographic opportunity and started our day off perfectly.

By rockymtnboilerbabe |

We walked between the villages. People were friendly and called out if they were coming. When you passed folks, pleasantries were always exchanged.

By often_crabby-travele |

You can actually start in Beaver (Avon) and take the path all the way up and over Vail Pass. For that matter, you can end up on the other side of Eisenhower Tunnel/Loveland Pass and go to Idaho Springs. That's a crazy long way--look up the "Triple Bypass" ride--people do it. Of course, Colorado natives probably do that and then are looking for a 10K to run. Fit (nuts) people out there. It's all beautiful. The Eagle County portion is nice and flat, relatively speaking, between Avon and East Vail. Then a very serious climb begins. Spend an hour climbing, and 10 minutes descending. Pretty fun. Don't wuss out and take a service to the top--you gotta earn it. Lots of spray paint on the climb encouraging you, and all the bike racers who have gone before you. Also the site of the Copper Triangle ride.

By Roxanne M |

The path is paved which makes for easy walking. The scenery was spectacular. We walked through the golf course and enjoyed every minute of it.

By Guest Services M |

East Vail locals like to take either a (long) walk or a bike ride from East Vail to the Village using this beautiful path. This path takes you in and out of the trees, along Gore Creek and passes through Vail's scenic gold course before it's end in Vail Village. Although this ride could be a bit long for some small children.

By Brian B |

If in Vail, this is a must experience either by walking or biking. The trail/path itself is free. The half day bike rental is ridiculously cheap; we found one for $12.00 each that includes the helmet and is available right there in the village. Be sure to do your research, as the rate is for a 48 hr. advance reservation.

The Vail path is literally 15 miles of paved path that meanders along the creek, the golf course, beautiful neighborhoods and of course, by the mountains. Picturesque and photo ops galore! If you ask for a basket on your bike, you could even bring a picnic. All bikes we rented had water bottle holders.

This was absolutely wonderful.....relaxing, beautiful, fun, great exercise and a great way to experience Vail without skiing!!

By FlyfishingJosie |

Part of the ride from Breckenridge to Avon (and beyond, if you wish) -- this is a great path. Walk it or ride it as far as suits your ability and desires! In summer, the flowers are wonderful!

By Janet R |

The Vail Bike Path does meander through Vail village along the creek (as many other reviewers have covered) which is very scenic. The path continues east out of town by the golf course and continues UP to Vail Pass (about 13-14 miles east of town). As you can imagine this is a strenuous bike path, running parallel to I-70, mostly in the forest, but there a few sections where the path is very close to I-70. For the very ambitious, the bike path continues over the pass through copper Mountain ski resort and onto Frisco and Breckenridge. From the center Vail Village all the way to Breck would be approximately 40 miles.

By ColoChick_11 |

Relatively flat for those, like me, who like to ride but aren't in the best of shape! Passes the golf course, beautiful homes, creek, etc. Gorgeous!

By TimetravelerSW |

We used the trails primarily for walking/jogging. Wow, nicely done and follows the Gore River through town and beyond! Well maintained and marked.

By Linda M |

Great access to hiking path between Vail Cascade to Lion's Head and Vail Village The path was scenic and easily accessible.

By Bookeworm |

It is great for riding a bike or a pretty walk as you get acclimated to the altitude and get into more serious hiking.

By Angela W |

During our 2 week stay we walked this path there & back from West Vail over 10 times. It is gorgeous.

By coorstown |

Traveling to Vail in October will help avoid big crowds. Some restaurants were closed for a few weeks but there were plenty of other selections.

By bcsystems |

We walked parts of this trail as we made our way from Vail Village to Lionshead. It's a nice paved path with parts of it crossing over the stream/creek.

By Vail2Italy |

This trail goes throughout the Vail Valley from Minturn to the west to East Vail. For runners and bikers alike, it is a safe, beautiful, paved path. Note: no amenities, but these can be found at Vail lodges near the mountain

By Kimpo |

We rented bikes in Vail and rode this path. It was so scenic, and had very many photo ops! We did about a 12 mile round trip ride. It takes you through some neighborhoods, by the golf course, over and by streams. We even saw some wildlife. This was great fun!

By Ski |

Great easy fun bike path that meanders it way along the Vail golf course and through Vail.
Good for bikers, joggers, walkers.

By CourtneyO2 |

We stayed at the Westwind at Vail in Lionshead Village in September and our concierge recommended that we rent some bikes and ride from Main Vail to East Vail! Great fall colors! By far the best orange trees I have ever seen. We then took our bikes back on the bus back to the village. Also, the Westwind at Vail is a great place to stay!

By Monique M |

The path along Gore Creek was filled with the sound of the very full creek due to snow melt. It made for both a tranquil and exciting walk.

By timesharetraveler11 |

The path is suitable for bikes or walking. I am not sure the length of the trail, but it will take you thru some very pretty areas.

By rebeccabrabb |

Husband and boys went on the path and had a great ride. Not difficult but do take water. It was nice views and highly recommend.

By BloomingRockyMtns |

I love walking and the paths in Vail make for a pleasant walk

By MzQ13 |

The trail is well kept and meanders along the Gore River. There are many areas on the trail where you can get off the trail and sit by the River. It is a multiuse path and is well utilized.

By Hannah O |

We were there over Labor Day -- this path was quite busy but we were still able to ride our bikes along the path for hours. Breathtaking views :)

By TravelByDotty |

I enjoy the walk on this path. It goes along the Gore Creek and is very pretty. We stayed at Cascade Village and were able to walk to Lionshead and Vail Village. Just be careful of the bike riders.... some of them are going way too fast.

By The2014 |

During our visit to Vail, we walked this scenic trail along Gore Creek whenever e could. Great for walking, bicycle riding.

By Jerry O |

We love walking this trail in the winter, with or without a lot of snow, with or without yak tracks and with or without snowshoes. Yet, if you go east to the golf course snowshoes or yak tracks may be helpful. Stop at the Betty Ford Alpine garden and check out yak tracks or snowshoes. Or, get them at the Nordic center in the golf course.

By Matt Z |

We really enjoyed this scenic path. We rode our bikes from Lionshead Village east to where the path meets up with a busy highway and went a little beyond that. Traffic wasn't heavy but the cars go fast. Luckily there is a wide shoulder. By riding east you encounter the uphills on your way out. This makes the return trip easier. Be sure to stop at the Ford amphitheater and gardens. The Philly Orchestra was rehearsing when we rode in. The path goes through Vail Village so you can grab lunch. Same with Lionshead Village. To the west of Lionshead Village is a nice path along the creek leading to a playground. Makes for a nice run or walk.

There is a grass covered cabin along the way with a great canyon in the background.

By Jon C |

This was an excellent option for an easy walk or bike in Vail. Path follows generally the Gore Creek. It passes to the golf course. We started in East Vail up to the village center. My kids loved it!

By Debra W |

This path is terrific. It connects with paths from Frisco, to Breck, to Edwards, maybe even more. You can choose more level parts or actually go up to Vail pass. It's great fun to bring or rent a bike and ride around.

By S D B |

lovely path along the gore creek meandering through the villages and vicinity. generally beautiful area, great for a stroll or bike ride.

By Carol Z |

My husband and I spent a beautiful fall weekend in Copper Mountain in September and rode this path several times. The trail is very well maintained and even though you are near the highway, the way it is situated most of the time you feel like you are out in the wilderness. It is a very beautiful ride and you see something new every time. We love this ride and will keep in on our list of places to ride in the mountains.

By Jim M |

This is a great time and anybody can do it. My wife and teenage boys had a great time. For most part the path is protected. My only recommendation is to bring a light rain coat as storms come and go quickly

By Beacon94 |

Went over Vail Pass from Vail village to Copper, Frisco, and Breckenridge 3 times in 4 days. Great trail. Hard slog going up......15 miles with 3400 ft of elevation which hurts when you start at 8,000 ft. But the run down to Copper and Frisco is great.....coming back you can reach speeds of over 45mph if so inclined!!!

By Ronald M |

Biking or hiking on this trail is so great. Winds along the Creek and between the Village and the Mountain. Just beautiful.

By SCalCanz |

If you want a workout and you're visiting Vail in the summer, the best thing you can do on two wheels is to rent a bike from one of the many shops in town (or hotels) and take a SERIOUS 17-mile (26 km) climb on the Vail Recreation Trail to the summit of Vail Pass. You climb about 2400' (730m), see some gorgeous country, and give your heart and lungs a POUNDING session of aerobic fun.

By Kerielea B |

Such a fun place!!! So many things to do. The trails are awesome! You feel like you can touch the sky! They offer free water and free sunscreen!!!

By vlevi |

Charter Sports took us to the top of Vail Pass with bikes, and we cruised down 18 miles of paved paths exclusive to bikes and roller-bladers. Didn't have to pedal much, except the last few miles. Good for the moderate biker, and beautiful scenery, from creeks to mountains to the beautiful golf course and the homes there. Don't miss it!

By Bob H |

Anytime of year it is awesome to walk the recreation path through town instead of taking the in-town. It is easier it walk in summer other than winter as you can see the path without the snow, however it is a great walk to get out and walk next to the river and clear your mind or just to enjoy the sights. During summer it is a great biking path as well!

By Deb E |

We walked along this path both toward the East and the West. It was well kept and very pleasant! Being bird-watchers, we kept our eyes open for interesting birds and were pleased to discover a family of three fledgling American Dippers, just learning how to negotiate the water. Fun! During our three-day stay in Vail, we left our car in the parking garage and walked everywhere on this path! The only down side was bike riders who were riding dangerously fast and not giving warning that they were approaching from behind. :( Rude dues everywhere, I guess!

By Jonnie S |

Vail has a truly great system of walking and bicycle paths. This community is very up-scale and they have made a great place to live and vacation. Bring your bike or rent one here.

By jacquelinesA6811WY |

Very nice to walk or bike along the creek. There are several picnic benches as well to enjoy a bite to eat.

By Edgardo M |

Vail and all of its nearby places are great for all types of sports (biking, walking or jogging) while enjoying terrific views.

By packinlight |

Who could resist a summer bike ride along the well marked town trail. It leads to the trail that follows I70 over the top of Vail Pass. Once you hit the E end of town it really is a heavy grade uphill. We made it 10 miles from Vail Center, and loved the views and exercise. We stopped 5 miles short of summit, bring plenty of water (at least 2 bottles) a drip rage to wipe your brow, and don't be stupid flying down the hill on the way back. The altitude is also something to be aware of.

By Travelmore95 |

Rented bikes from Vail Sports shop next to Starbucks in Lionshead. They took us and our bikes to the top of Vail Pass. We then rode on nicely paved bike path all the way into Vail/Lionshead. Path was plenty wide and away from the noise and traffic of the highway and roads for almost the entire trip (18 miles). Outstanding outdoor activity. Great value. Easy enough for ages 12-50. Stop at Ford Alpine Garden toward the end of the ride.

By Sasha A |

I had already done some strenuous hikes but still wanted to take advantage of the beautiful views and to enjoy nature. I took the East Vail bus to Pitkin Lake Park and started at the bottom of Gore Creek Trail and walked back to the heart of Vail Village. It was beautiful catching views of the mountains and the Aspens changing colour and the walk was very leisurely. 10/10 would recommend for a free afternoon!

By Mark B |

We rode 9 miles along the Gore Creek trail and then the Gore Valley trail. Mostly flat and outstanding views along Gore Creek. Route becomes more difficult to follow toward Gore Valley. See route and a short video on Spoke32 Cycling Club on Facebook.

By Karen B |

We hired bikes from Vail and first off all rode towards Lionshead. However, I would recommend going the other way as it is much more beautiful and wild.

By Paul |

Great way to explore Vail, especially by bike. For the adventurer, the path connects to the path to the top of Vail Pass. But it's not for the casual rider. It's a steep ride to the top.

By susan E |

Our family bikes everywhere. The only things that concerns me is WE ALL use it. We walk and ride; therefore, it is dangerous. But we love it. Thanks for keeping it so beautiful

By Keith M |

This ride is an amazing trip through some of the best scenery in the valley. I have been through here many times and usually see squirrels, hawks and other wildlife. The Eagles Nest Wilderness Area is well preserved despite all the ski trails and roads through the area. Make sure to check the babbling brooks and streams for fish and frogs in the summer.

By Brent B |

We Rode this trail by bike on our trip to Vail. It was a novice trail that anyone could handle with very easy hills to traverse. The beauty of this simple roadside trail is pretty amazing. It mainly follows the creek that runs into Vail. You also will find your self at times on the service road and also going through residential condo streets that make up the trail. It is part of the functional path that goes to downtown Vail so we used it alot simply to get around town.

By MDCrabLovers |

Go to Wheel to rent a bike in Lionshead, great people, took us in a van to the top of vail pass and let us ride our bikes down the 12-13 mile path and around Vail. Beautiful path! A must do

By MTBTrails |

Loved the ability to leave the car at the hotel and not have to search for parking while attending events at the Mountain.

By steve |

nice and gentle paved trail along aspen flanked stream, great for walks, runs, and bikes. Passes thru Vail and continues east for lengthy rides

By Chris |

What's awesome about Vail is that you are entrenched in nature. Don't need to go anywhere or do anything. It's all right there.

It's such a peaceful and tranquil place. Civilized beyond anything else. The town and surrounding areas are so well done you don't even realize you are in a world class resort.

Set out on this path anywhere and it's perfect. Some areas flat and some undulating and some steep.

By foot or bike, it's incredible. Bring a sandwich and stop at any of the benches or by the river and enjoy a peaceful bite.

You won't find any garbage cans so be prepared to carry your trash back with you.

By Mark1952 |

Wide and well maintained. Great for biking and walking. Relatively flat and easy. A busy path, but bikers and walkers are polite and usually sound off when passing from behind. So, it is a safe path for families with children and seniors. You can walk or bike a good distance while enjoying the awesome views.

By czechpr |

Walked from Lionshead in Vail along the trail to Betty Ford Gardens.Walk along the creek and ended up in the park which had the gardens but also a great playground for kids. The covered bridge is at this park also.Trail marked all the way and best of all was free!and got you outside.

By Stacy F |

We rode from Lionshead to the homes on the golf coarse and back again, enjoying all the beauty of Vail on a Fall day. There were a few moments that we had to really peddle up the hill, but nothing that was too hard for our family with a 7, 9 and 11 year old. We saw gorgeous homes, meandered through Vail Village and road alongside the creek. Love it.

By Coloradowoz |

The Vail path travels along the river (stream) for a good portion. You can hike from West Vail into Lionshead or Vail proper and all the way to east vail. Plenty of places to stop and watch folks fishing, or to throw a few rocks into the river (not near the fisherman). Beautiful scenery and you can see some of the great houses of Vail.

By ripcordzz |

I found myself turning off my music while running to enjoy the sound of the river. It's a nice, challenging run from down by West Vail up past the golf course since it's uphill and over 8,000 ft in elevation, but you're rewarded with a fast dowhnhill going from east to west!

By Kelly |

Great bike path along the Gore Creek! Not too tough, and not too easy! Take your time for the perfect ride!

By Marlene P |

We have hiked Vail mountain many times and walked this delightful path while remarking on the beauty.

By Kellie3280 |

Our young family hired bikes and we were off! It's a safe way to explore the village as we were kept off the main roads. It's a very pretty path, running alongside the creek and amongst the tall trees for shelter. Our only complaint is that it didn't go further!

By AtlantaHappyTraveler |

Loved this path long the Gore stream! It's fun to see the dogs enjoying the stream as you bike or walk this path. Take it down to the Betty Ford Gardens that are beautiful.

By IN_Travelers47906 |

We biked the path with Charter Sports from the summit of Vail Pass back into town.

The path is smooth two-lane asphalt and it gets a lot of traffic in both directions. At one point the path parallels I-70 and at another you are on the shoulder of a lightly used frontage road. At no time did we feel endangered. You are descending from the pass summit at 10,662’ into Vail at 8,022’, so you are coasting most of the way. There are 4-5 spots where you will have fairly steep inclines for short distances. They are no problem for experienced riders, but others may choose to walk the 100 yards or so until the path levels out again.

A great adventure. Really glad we did it!

By KLB |

This was a nice path to walk through Vail along Gore Creek and not be on the cobble street among the restaurants and shops.

By Gerry F |

Peaceful bike trail that meanders and at times parallels the water. I rented the bike at Bike Tech in Lionsgate. reasonably priced.

By Jet20467169216 |

Hopped on a City of Vail E-Bike conveniently booked through the Shift Bike App and enjoyed a beautiful ride along the creek and through Vail Village. It is a well maintained path and a perfect way to take in the beauty of Vail.

By Charlotte B |

Found this path ("Gore Valley Trail") by accident - due to a skiing injury I had to take the day off and decided to wander around Vail. This path was an excellent discovery! Very easy little hike with excellent signage - easy to "get off" path and meander into each of the Vail villages and other attractions along the way. Right along the river, beautiful scenery, allows you to check out condos/houses you might not otherwise notice =) Hope to come back in the summer!

By Brad T |

Make sure you bring your bikes when you come to Vail! My family and I ride this trail almost every day at some point while in Vail. We stay in Golden Peak (the best place in Vail) and it's perfect to get to anywhere in Vail down this path!

By Robin M |

A lovely paved path through the heart of the whole Vail complex. You'll meander through huge pine trees while you're serenaded by the rushing of Gore Creek over huge mountain boulders. Dappled sunlight dances about as you weave through the valley reminiscent of Europe. But the best part, the smells...sweet pine scent, blooming flowers and fresh mountain air! Come take a ride, thankfully the path is long.

By JayDee970 |

icy in spots, but mostly clear of snow and ran alongside beautiful creek.

By Darryl P |

Highly recommended. Stands of aspen, waterfall views, river views, wildlife. It's really a fantastic little trail.

By sjce4 |

We stayed at the Marriott Streamwood resort and then got a good discount renting our bikes at Charter Sports across the street. They got our entire family of 8 all set and off we went following the Gore Valley Trail. It led through Vail Village and ran alongside of the Gore River. It was a really nice paved path, a couple spots were tough going up for this non-acclimated to elevation girl, but coming back was mostly downhill. I think you can go around 12 miles, but we didn't feel like it, so shortened our loop around the Ford Ampitheater and Alpine Gardens and only did around 6 miles. Had a great time!

By MrT80920 |

It is in Vail so it is surrounded by beauty and nature, no matter what (strolling, running, blading, biking) this is a nice trail

By aledm |

It's great to be able to take a walk on the rec path in the dead of winter with snow all around but to have the rec path plowed. In summer we bike and walk and enjoy walking around Vail on the path.

By amalia24 |

We were staying in Breckenridge, and wanted to bike down the Vail pass. After looking at different bikes shops in town, it seemed like an overpriced tourist trap. Before we threw in the towel, I took a look at the prices in the next town over, Frisco. They were much more reasonable, and decided we could than bike around lake Dillon afterwards. It was worth every penny! They brought us up to the pass while pointing out places to take note on the way down. I admit, the trail at first was a little windy and steep for me, but the rest of my group was no where near as timid as I. It really is all down hill! No peddling at all! Riding along the river, looking up at all the wildflowers, the majestic Rockies, does it get better? Make sure to stop and see the one of a kind rock garden after Cannon Mountain! Worth the trip alone! Once we arrived in Frisco, we stopped and had lunch, than continued for more of a 'exercise ride', around a good part of Lake Dillon. Stopped at the lake to relax and continued enjoyment of the scenery. Make a day of this trip, it is not to be missed!

By InlovewGstaad |

Absolutely beautiful. How can you go wrong, passing creeks, with benches to sit and gaze and ponder, giant, majestic pines, and possible Moose sightings? Just Heaven!

By Tripsfor100 |

Love scenic beauty, trees, flowers, blue sky - this ride is for you! It goes up Vail Pass 10,662 ft. It's got height and lots of up and down pedaling. Check out the website for more info and renting bikes. Great exercise and fabulous views of mountains!

By MarciaBenjam |

Vail is a beautiful area! Really, just walking and enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather is worth the trip!

By MountainMan-Kim |

Vail Pass is a beautiful, wildflower-lined area, adjacent to some of the greatest hiking trails in Colorado within the Eagles Nest Wilderness Area north of the bike path.

Early morning or late evening, Vail offers fabulous paths for strolling or serious walking. Great way to work off calories from all the wonderful restaurants.

By Andre P |

Used this path during our 17-mile bike ride down from Vail Pass. Well-maintained and easy to use. Loved the scenery from the path.

By portacurlygirl |

Since we are not the serious competitive biker types, we took a van up and were dropped off at the rest area at the top of Vail Pass. Then we cruised down to Frisco with a stop in Copper Mountain for lunch. We couldn't have asked for better weather! Best fun we've had in a long time!

By Docoutside |

I rented a road bike from Charter Sports and my wife brought me to the top of Vail pass ( elev. 10,600). You can access the bike path at Black Lakes rest stop approx. a mile down (West) a frontage road from the main rest stop at Vail Pass. It's then a gleeful 15 miles (approx.) downhill to Vail, depending on where you get off the path. You can go all the way to West Vail. It's a two lane that is very scenic as you come across small waterfalls, mountain streams, large private homes, the golf course, and did I mention it's basically downhill? Once in Vail it's a great way to get around and access different locations, often meandering along Gore Creek. Walk, bike, jog, you may even feel like skipping along this beautiful path.

By Pat M |

What a gorgeous bike path. We recently moved back to Colorado after 6 years absence and really appreciate the beauty here. The scenery along the path is incredible!

By hilloboy |

We started here. The trail system is fantastic in Vail. We got our feet wet on the trails by hiking our first hours in town. We got to see everything from our vantage point and loved the trails and views. Bring your boots though and leave them outside when you are done because the only problem is the people who walk dogs in Vail don't know how to keep them from leaving stuff right in the middle of the trail. Still won't ruin my hiking and we loved it.

By EbethL |

First time bike riding in like 20 years, and aside from the uphill climb getting to the bridge to town, it was very convenient and well kept.

By ani G |

can walk anywhere you want to. all were so friendly. met lots of pups on the way. well maintained. so not like in the city!.

By Louise M |

We walked the Gore Creek Trail from Marriot Streamside to Vail Village, a 2.9 mile walk. It is nicely forested, and runs alongside Gore Creek for the most part. A good deal of the trail is shaded, and in places it crosses over the creek, then back. It is mostly flat with some minor hills. We took the bus back, but if time had allowed we would have walked back. Many bike riders were on the trail, and were very good about calling out when they were coming up behind you.

By Susan D |

This is excellent for anyone who has disabilities. I am recovering
From a.spinal injury and Iwas able to go farther because it is shady
and has benches for resting and water fountains. it was so enjoyable.

By Ro R |

Its well maintained and goes through the Vail valley from shrine mountain pass through Vail to down valley to glenwood you can start any were and do it all or just a portion of it, It is a recreation path so give way to everyone. and dont be rude!!

By richard m |

In family or couples this is amazing, in summer the weather is great for walking or hiking, jus enjoy this area

By esteban896 |

This trail through Vail Village also goes west towards Avon and east up Vail Pass. The views are great. Gore Creek is a beautiful mountain stream. Many attractions and stops are located along the path. You can find water at several parks so you don't have to carry it. If you get tired, buses are available to return you to Vail Village.

By Audrey |

Went over 4th of July weekend, it was pretty busy but definitely friendly to casual bicyclists. Amazing amenity to the Village.

By BH2O |

This is a beautiful path through Vail. Lots of things to see along the way. It's an easy ride from just about any hotel in Vail.

We love the walk to and from town along the river. We also enjoy the beautiful homes along the way - and we've even encountered some elk!

By Amy |

We walked from east Vail into town, approximately 4.5 miles. The path winds through the valley, it is mostly flat and very pretty. Lots of bikes but the path is comfortably wide enough to accommodate both hikers and bikers.

By meyding |

Great option for a run or walk. I started my run near the covered bridge and went west for 3 or 4 miles. Path was mostly alongside Gore Creek and was lightly traveled. Path does go slightly downhill the further west you go, so count on the trip back east taking a bit longer.

This place is good to walk, take the dogs out for a walk, relax or simply drive around and take some pictures. The Scenery is very beautiful when it’s not snowing and also when is snowing, it is not very much crowded and people do not visit this as much so it is convenient when you want to clear your mind.

I would like for it to go on forever. Easy, picturesque. Passes by the creek and a park, the wildflower garden and the ampitheater.

Vail is the summer. Be sure to take some time to get out and walk around. It is spectacular. The weather and the views were spectacular.

What great ride DOWN this trail. we did a bike rental and shuttle from Vail Wheel Base in lionshead. They were Great. the fall colors were great! we biked 17 miles back to their shop. what is really amazing about this trail is seeing the bikers who peddle UP this trail to the top. unreal!

By dilly4j |

This bike path rocks! You can go fast if you want or you can't use your brakes a lot and go slow down Vail Valley. It goes directly through Vail Village and Lionshead Village. I went by myself but next time I'm going to take my wife and we will stop in one of the villages to eat lunch.

On the way down, you will be riding by a few lakes, rivers that have been damed up by beavers, aspen groves and then as you get into Vail Village, you will ride by some really expensive houses.

I saw a lot of Yellow bellied marmots near the top of the bike path. Beaver dams are all around and i even saw a garter snake.

Rented my bike at Venture Sports in Avon but there are a tone of places to rent bikes from. All the rental shops will get you a bike and ride you to the top of Vail Pass for around 30 to 40 dollars. it will take you around and hour and a half to get from the top of Vail Pass to West Vail. You could do it faster if you like or much slower if you stop and explore the hiking trails that go around the lakes.

Go to Venture Sports to read my review about this rental bike shop.

I would love for people to e-mail me and tell me a more beautiful and fun bike path!

Biking on this path was the highlight of our trip! Beautiful and well maintained. If I could I would be on it every day!

By Joshua S |

I live in Copper mountain and ride this regularly. The path is wide, not crowded, lots of turns and hills - all with beautiful views!

By vaildiver |

An easy, safe path through the pines and aspen -- from one end of the valley to the other. Ideal for dog walks, bike rides, quiet moments in nature and mountain views.

By James G |

This trail is just beautiful for walking, biking, whatever. We rented bikes and rode for quite a ways and really enjoyed it.

By Swl781 |

This was a great path along a creek, joining the various centers of Vail. Only problem was the racing hearts caused by the high altitude! Combined walking/biking, so beware.

By Tammie L |

We are from the land of flat! Totally a blast riding down this path! We did hire a company to take us to the top. I do think that was kinda expensive..$30 per person. We brought our own bikes, so that saved us a few dollars. We were educated on proper path protocol. Passing on your Left! I was not impressed with the "professional" looking cyclist that did not use the so called trail rules. Which was startling when they pass cause they are super fast! Over all, HIGHLY recommend this! :D

Every time we visit Vail, we make it a point to walk or bike at least part of this beautiful trail. It's a refreshing respite from every day's concerns. We've always found it safe, spotlessly clean, and surrounded by interesting architecture and sculpture, as well as amazing plantings. Very nice, Vail. Very nice, indeed!

By lektrishan |

Tommy and Bobby at the Bike Valet, Lions Head Village, They take care of customers. There were many different types of bicycles, with different gear and accessories. their knowledge and personal experiences were exactly what we needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride. Both times we rented at the BIKE VALET.

Has been fun in the past but so are so many other trails - take a bike, walkers can be over run

By kathyFortMyers_FL |

WE caught and released LOTS of beautiful rainbow and brown trout! My husband used a flyrod and I had a spinning rod using live worms. Several of the fish were 18-20 inches long! Fantastic fishing I will never forget:)

By ET-retired |

This is like a single lane road asphalt road that wanders loosely along the creek it is several miles long and gentle enough in grade that it is not a strain.

By Joe G |

This bike trail is great. Too it from Vail pass all the way down to Edwards. Then you can take the Eco Bus back to Vail. The path is well paved, the scenery is magnificent. It's a must do especially if you want to do it all down hill.

By hico01 |

Nice way to walk along Gore creek and through the side of the resort. We relaxed in couple areas. Local people were nice and helpful with information.

By LydiaMcFarland |

The trail basically follows Gore Creek, but it does veer off to the street and is hard to find again. I alway lose it by the golf course, it's not obvious where it goes. The path is paved, but very crowded and if you are walking look out for bikes that whizz by. It needs to be made wider and better marked.

By Marc M |

This is an easy way to acclimate to the altitude. Easy paved trail that runs the whole valley. Watch for bikes that also use the path. Many shady places to sit if you need to do so.

By RCM1935 |

Because our timeshare was 3.3 miles from the main village, we had a lot of time to walk the path between them, mostly along the Eagle River. Path is shared with bikers, not all of whom let you know they're about to whoosh by you.

By Timestes |

One of our favorite riding locales in the country. Beautiful scenery, bikes only so no autos. A tough climb to Vail Pass but that’s why we’re here!!

By WeLuv2Relax |

Spent several hours just walking through Vail and enjoying nature and the scenery. This was one of our favorite things to do on our trip to Colorado.

By Deanna9 |

There are numerous bike shops offering the bike rental/drop off at Vail Pass tour. With all my stops for photos it took about 2.5 hours. 95% downhill, so very easy. The scenery is spectacular! A very enjoyable way to spend a morning in the mountains. There are a few spots where you are next to the expressway, which is a bit nerve wracking, but other than that, it's relaxing. Highly recommend it! And, yes, if you are an avid cyclist like my husband you can ride up to Vail Pass and continue even further for a terrific workout!

By jaycee1232017 |

Great for dogs. Not at all busy in the off-season. Be aware of curves as bikers can be moving quickly.

By ndtraveler42018 |

We enjoyed our walking tour through Vail during a mild June morning. The town is lovely and restful, as was the walk.

By Luvn2travl4 |

Very pretty views. Steep hills at times. A few areas to turn off thd enjoy the scenery. It's a bit steep though sometimes if you want to get down to the waterside so be careful.

By phxwilsons |

This path is great for walkers and bikers. Remember to walk/bike on the right side. You follow Gore Creek. If you are heading east, you are on the uphill climb. It might not seem like much of an elevation change, but when going westbound, you will get to coast.

By Bailey55 |

We had a leisure walk along the path. We got great views of the changing color of the leaves and also our guide from pointed out numerous nature pointers along the walk.

By Autumn L |

We jumped on our bikes and hit the trail from our hotel the Tivoli Lodge. The path is literally next door. One day we just rode over to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. The next day we went six miles to Bighorn Park! This ride was tough! Hills and altitude made for a good ride! If you are from sea level look out! We also took the path to Pirate Ship Park. Great path for biking and getting around!

By Malzac |

The Vail recreation path is beautiful to explore no matter what time of year you might visit. Although parts are not plowed in the winter, the trail is usually well packed down and it provides lovely vistas through forest winter wonderlands.

By Tracy M |

Great Rec Path... safetly access all points of Vail. Enjoy scenic walk, run, ride, etc along it.

By momoitalia |

Went with the whole family, rented some bikes and trailer, stop by the river for a picnic, took some nice pictures let the kids play on parks.... wonderful and beautiful. A must to do with everyone.

By Dave A |

The Vail Recreational Path is to be enjoyed by all. Beauty all around for you to enjoy. Take pictures, smell the great outdoors, and say to a friendly fellow walker.

By JKPImageFusion |

I took the path from the Marriott down to the Cascade Village then back up to Vail Village. It runs along the partially frozen creek. Be careful of the icy conditions but this is a great walk to see Vail and the various villages.

By cream78 |

I used the Vail Recreation Path daily, while on a trip in August of 2011. We walked the path and also biked it. It runs right along a stream and you pass gorgeous homes and beautiful nature.

By Mike W |

Runs along Gore Creek through most of Vail. In the summer it's quicker to walk from Lionshead to Cascade Village than it is to wait for a shuttle. Very scenic, several places you could walk down to the water, and the soundtrack of the creek was amazing.

By tags39 |

This path went right by our accommodations at Eagle Point and we walked it almost every day. It is a wonderful path, very well maintained and an easy stroll for every level of fitness.

By Sandy L |

We live near the path & I walk it during the summer & fall almost daily from West Vail into Lionshead & back. The constant sound of the creek & the birds make you forget Interstate 70. Wildflowers, dog walkers, fly fisherman, families & individuals walking/jogging along with bike riders all seem to work in harmony. When parking in Vail gets tight on the weekends, it's lovely to spend time walking into town.

By Phillip M |

Rented a bike and rode to the top of Vail pass last August. Beautiful path with lots to see. It gets steep after you cross under I70, be ready to climb. Watch out for wildlife at dusk.

By mtngyrl_10 |

We typically stay in West Vail and use this path instead of driving anywhere in Vail. The path runs along the river and is relatively flat, which is great for anyone not used to this elevation. We have never encountered crazy cyclists and even with young kids, we can stroll along this path without worrying about bikes speeding past us. Last time we were there, we even saw a large brown bear on the other side of the river. We love Vail and this path is a part of what makes it such a wonderful place.

By Sheldon S |

We always walk along the path to and from the Village. It is nice to walk along a babbeling creek and enjoy the snow falling while on our way to lunch or dinner. We take this walk a couple of times each year when we visit Vail.

By palmpirate |

We chose to walk though others biked or skated along. It follows the creek and is away from the traffic. It is beautifully maintained though the neighbourhoods. You can go for miles and there are bus stops along the way if you've walked further than you thought!

By dondpt06 |

Liked: Nice to ride a bike or walk along the creek on well maintained path.
Disliked: Nothing

By TripGal63 |

We rented bikes from Vail Bike Tech and rode the paths for about two hours - we were warned not to go west because we would eventually have to come back and it is all uphill on the return - should of listened - the bike shop was great....

By CO-Frequent-Traveler |

We rented snowshoes and had a little difficulty finding the path through the golf course. Once we found it, the path took us through some beautiful scenery and it was a good workout. Only suggestion is the rental place should have a map or some info, the clerks didn't know where to send us.

Next to Gore Creek, paved, this trail is great and gets alot of pedestrians and some bikes. Its easy!

By Debbi D |

Easy walking in Vail. Beautiful views of the mountains. Creekside walk, I spotted moose along the walk. Very serene, quiet walk, I loved it!

By LonestarKirk |

My nine year old daughter and myself spent several days walking down this trail and it was fantastic. The views, the nice homes, and the wildlife were remarkable.

By wendysk8r |

We biked, walked, ran and strolled. I felt comfortable going alone as well. Loved the roaring creek alongside. Takes you through Vail as well as out. Fairly level and always beautiful scenery.

By Sally D |

The sun was shining, the brook babbling and birds chirping. I didn't feel the altitude one bit as I took an invigorating jog every morning of my trip. I even took a break and sat next to the water soaking in the best of what nature has to offer.

By Jessica D |

We walked from cascade village to Vail village. It was relaxing and the river was beautiful. I loved how scenic it is.

By nvs1717 |

The path is just as wonderful as people describe. We rented bikes, including a tandem bike for our 4 year old, from Lions Village and began out journey from there. What I wish I knew beforehand and will share so others know is that you can plan a half or full day that really caters to kids. There are 3 parks that are really wonderful and along the path - the Pirateship Park, Ford Park and Lionshead Park. Ford Park is located next to the Betty Ford Botanical garden which has a children's garden. The botanical garden itself is worth seeing. Also, the Vail science center is close by and they give nature walks that cater to kids (check their online schedule first). You can also to stop and have a picnic/snack by the creek or head back into the village for a nice lunch, ice cream, or snack stop. The best part about all of this is that you can do as many or as few of the activities as you and your child/children like. You have all of those options plus a gorgeous and very scenic bike ride. We made a full day of it and did everything I described in this post, and it was our favorite day out of our vacation. My son asked if we could move here, so I know it was a huge hit for him as well.

By Elsinore A |

If you come to Vail, take some time out to walk this path. It's gorgeous and the creek makes such beautiful noise.

By anesdocno1 |

Biking on the recreation path is a very fun experience on a sunny fall day, and also is like a parade of homes, as you pass the beautiful architecture Vail Valley.

By AnnaMaris |

The recreation path is gorgeous, accessible for most, and well worth the walk. It meanders along a creek bed, in between the villages and the base of the mountain. The sights, sounds, and fresh mountain air is so worth it! I stayed in the valley for a wedding, and even though I have been to Vail many times I have never taken advantage of the recreation path - do so! It was the best way to see the villages, the fall colors, and get deep breaths of fresh air.

By Deanna H |

We had a great ride meandering through Vail and riding along the creek. We were able to hop off for a cup of coffee at Yeti's in the Village.

By Jeff B |

The Gore Creek trail runs for miles and is itself a beautiful walk, varying from a meandering paved trail through the town centers, to a nice trail following the golf course, to a long stretch of semi-wilderness with views of beaver dams, interesting aspen forest and local parks and outdoor art.

By Flyer P |

rode my recumbent trike down to Vail and back from Summit County, nicely maintained and wide enough for my larger trike even with crowds

By zanderwalsh1 |

It is amazing how much Colorado in general puts into the trail system in the state. That being said, this one is beautiful!! It is well maintained and clean!

By Broomfield1 |

Get ready for a perfect riding path - scenery, fresh air, exercise, well groomed trail. Biking, hiking, or other activity. A smart and valuable asset for locals and tourists by Vail and nearby towns - this path connects many surrounding towns, mountains, creeks and lakes.

By Swissmisshiker |

The Vail pass receration path is suitable for
all riding abilities. The scenery is stunning
and beautiful. A van shuttle service is taking
riders up to the pass and the downhill ride is fun and easy. If you like a good workout and challenge you can ride the path uphill. It is 14 miles from the top of the pass to Frisco.
My husband and I do this ride every year at least a couple of times. The path connects
to the path to Breckenridge and Silverthorne
over lake Dillon dam to Keystone. I highly
recomend this bike ride for beginners and
advanced riders. Several bike rental businesses in Frisco provide a shuttle service for about $45 incl. bike rental for
24 hours.

By KCLJ520 |

We walked on the path to and from Vail and Lionshead several times and really enjoyed Gore Creek and the wooded areas around the path very much! Well worth a walk in the evening to watch the setting sun and the stars!

By deward070882 |

Wonderful place for a stroll with the family. Fall colors in early October are nothing short of breathtaking; with the trees and rugged mountains as a backdrop. Walking on the trail from the Betty Ford gardens to vail village is so peaceful along gore creek. I highly recommend his walk!

By LeeJad |

This was a very nice path that you can run on walk along. It is right along the river and can be seen from the Vail Cascade resort.

By Jill S |

While we stayed in Vail Village, we took full advantage of the Vail Path along Gore Creek. It connects several "communities" in and around Vail, making it easy to get to tons of hotels/condos, restaurants, bars, shops and attractions. We were on the path multiple times a day. Good for walking, running and biking - beautiful scenery!

By Kim P |

This is a hidden gem that more visitors to Vail should explore. I have biked the trail and walked it end-to-end. The east part of the path is more scenic than the west end, although the east section can be quite hilly. Make sure you can navigate the gears on your bike before you tackle it. The path leading to East Vail has many hidden tracks for "off-path" riding that are great. The views are fantastic, with benches along the way for stopping and taking pictures. There aren't any rest stops except at the Golf Course, so bring plenty of water. Riding the path from Vail to East Vail and back doesn't take much more than an hour to an hour and a half at a leisurely pace, including stopping for pictures. The views are worth it, you are right up against the mountain. Highly recommended, whether a first-time visitor to Vail or a return traveler.
